"Don't book a room at this hotel! They don't stand behind their word! Worst customer service ever!!!"

User 18/09/2019

Worst customer experience I have ever experienced with a hotel!! This is my first time using Best Western Plus Capitol Ridge and will be my last! I booked this hotel reservation through Priceline for 9/16. I called Best Western Plus Capitol Ridge on 9/14 and asked the front desk staff to cancel my reservation for 9/16. I explained to the young lady that I booked this through Priceline and asked if I could cancel directly with her or needed to contact Priceline. The young lady working at the front desk told me she cancelled the room and there was no need to contact Priceline. I asked again for her to verify that there would be no charge to my credit card which she assured me there wouldn't be. I also asked her to email me a confirmation of this cancellation for my records. She said she would. I never received that confirmation email and my credit card has been charged for this reservation! I called Best Western and they said they couldn't cancel the reservation since the reservation was made through priceline. That is not what the young lady at the front desk told me on 9/14 when I called to cancel the reservation. I called Priceline and they said they spoke to Felicia at Best Western Capitol Ridge and she said Best Western would not remove this charge. I am so upset and disappointed with this experience! Shame on you Best Western! Stand behind the promises made to your guests by YOUR FRONT DESK STAFF! WHERE IS YOUR INTEGRITY???? VERY DISHONEST!!!

"Excellent stay!"

487matthewz, Moose Lake, Minnesota 12/09/2019

Excellent stay. Great, friendly customer service. The room was very clean. Has a small bar & restaurant on site. The complimentary breakfast has hot food items such as scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits & gravy & oatmeal. Only complaint is tha,t it is a little pricey for weekday rates of $198 a night.

The staff are very welcoming, happy, pleasant and professional. The restaurant and lounge area is large and inviting. You can sit outside with ample seating. The staff are very attentive and go out of their way to make sure you are waited on quickly. Great service from everyone!

"Good for business"

Tanja R, Sebeka, Minnesota 04/09/2019

Each time I have stayed at this location it has been for business. The rooms are clean, well stocked with supplies. The beds are very comfortable and I was able to sleep. The temperature is hard to figure out, at times it is too hot and others too chilled and I did not change the thermostat. Front desk is very helpful. Did not use the pool. The fitness center is not very usable. many of the machines either make some funky or do not work. I personally do not like to workout in a very hot room and I was sweating within moments of entering the room.

CapitolRidge, Manager at Best Western Plus Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
Thank for the feedback. I have shared your comments with the Maintenance team so we can correct the fitness room issues. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance during your next visit.

"Clean, Relaxing, Friendly"

Y3191UJbks, Rochester, Minnesota 03/09/2019

Booked a room here during the MN Stare Fair on a Saturday night. We arrived at about 8:30AM and the Front Desk offered to hold our luggage even though we couldn't check in yet (Check is isn't til 3PM). She even made a note saying we would be arriving late that evening. Parking was $22 overnight but incredibly convenient and the shuttle to the fair was $5/ person, a quick 15 minute ride. When we got back that evening our room was ready, clean and comfortable. Had a few drinks in the bar, very friendly bartenders and they helped find a place to order pizza from. The beds are just the right firmness and plenty of hot water from the shower. Free breakfast is offered and it was delicious and well stocked even though we didn't make it down until around 10AM. This place has obviously been recently remodeled and cares about their guests.

"Great location"

MLE0904, Las Vegas, Nevada 31/08/2019

After driving around the hotel several times we finally figured out we had to go in the gated area. DUH. The hotel is very nice and clean with a wonderful restaurant area for breakfast. It is located right in downtown St Paul and close to everything including the expressway to Minneapolis. We did have one problem that is still ongoing. Our credit card was charged out when we checked in and again when we checked out. the original charge was supposed to drop off after we left. Three weeks later it is still a pending charge on our credit card. I have discussed this with the manager via email and he said it is not on his end and I have called my credit card company and they say it is not on our end but that the charge will automatically drop off after 60 days. So there it sits for another month.

"Best Service Ever!"

User 19/08/2019

We stayed at this hotel for a trip into St Paul to see Queen. We chose the hotel due to location to the venue. The service that we received from Paul in the bar/restaurant was over the top and so appreciated. We also had excellent service with the shuttle drivers and front desk staff. But Paul, seriously, was so courteous, and the fish tacos were superb. Would definitely stay here again. Affordable, convenient and excellent service!!!

"More bang for your buck"

User 18/08/2019

The staff was very accommodating & friendly! It was very close to the places that we needed to be during our stay. It is always tough to sleep in a bed that isn't your own...but it was good. The breakfast was great & helped to fill every ones tummies to start the day off right.

"Had higher expectations"

rizwanq77, Toronto, Canada 17/08/2019

We booked our room through Air Miles (which I have done many many times in the past with other hotels). When we reached the hotel after a 7 hour drive, we were told that 'they don't see that they have been paid by the third party for out hotel'. The guy wasn't able to explain what the issue was. I explained him and gave him the confirmation from Air Miles, he acknowledged that he sees the reservation in the system but said the 'third party credit card is declining' - again he wasn't able to explain what the issue was. He then told us that there is nothing he could do about it and that I have to call Air Miles. I asked to speak with the manager but I was told that there was no manager on site! A few minutes later, the manager showed up, he did something in the system and it was all good. I had asked what exactly had happened and they were not able to explain. Anyways that finally got sorted out. Beware if you are booking rooms with them through Air Miles. The house keeping didn't clean the toilet and also didn't vacuum the floor. We asked them to clean these but they never showed up. The breakfast menu was good.

CapitolRidge, Manager at Best Western Plus Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
I am sorry to hear about the mix up with your reservation at check, I know how frustrating this can be. I will share your comments about the cleanliness issues in your room with the housekeeping staff. This is certainly not the level of service we strive to achieve.

"Noisy, noisy, noisy..."

User 16/08/2019

Not only do you have constant noise from the freeway that is right next door but tonight (a Friday) it is like Animal House II... Doors slamming and yelling in the hallway to the point they had to post a security guard on the floor for a while. Restaurant has a limited menu. Ice machine and consessions are nowhere to be found on our floor. One and only time for me...

"A great hotel in the capital city "

User 14/08/2019

My wife and I decided to stay here while visiting Saint Paul and this was a great hotel. We got great service from everyone here. We paid a fair price for our room. The room itself was clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again

I was skeptical when we booked but i was pleasantly surprised! this hotel was amazing! it was clean, quiet, and centrally located. me and my boyfriend were able to walk downtown in 15 minutes. we were minutes away from the capitol and had a spectacular view of it from our room! there was also a light rail stop down the street where you could hope on the light rail and ride wherever you need. would definitely stay here again!

"Thursday, July 25th visit."

iowacityia, iowa city, ia 07/08/2019

My wife and I stayed 1 night, attending the ELO concert at the nearby Xcel Energy center. We arrived to the hotel around 4:30pm. It was fairly busy at the front counter, but once we got to the clerk, he took care of us in no time at all. Our room was on the 4th floor. Our room was clean, spacious, and smelled good. The bed was very comfortable. The air conditioning worked well, the tv worked well. It was just a very pleasant room. Breakfast was very good. Way above average. We walked to and from the Excel Energy center for the concert. I guess it was about a 20 minute walk and found it to be very safe, even after 1030pm or so. I would absolutely stay there again.

"Nice Clean Room and Good Breakfast"

Rick1591, Goodyear, Arizona 06/08/2019

We stayed here last night. The first room we were given was on the 2nd floor and the view out the window looked like the parking lot concrete retaining wall. I called to see if another room was available and they moved us to a 7th floor room with a view of the St. Paul Cathedral. Much better room, but why not just put us there first? Check-in was quick but the clerk made a mistake processing a $20 BW credit which my wife had to have them fix in the morning. Our room was very clean and nicely appointed. The beds were very comfortable. Unfortunately, the windows didn't provide much sound protection and in the morning we could hear freeway noise in the room. Breakfast was very good and the breakfast area was very nice.

"Unfriendly, and restaurant is a failure unless you're looking for alcohol. If there's a concert, $$$$$ for a room!"

User 23/07/2019

Three tries in the restaurant and three fails by the restaurant. John the shuttle driver was the best; when the shuttle was running, that is. Ezra and the weekend morning person were helpful and friendly. I was not greeted, not even as a Diamond member; seldom does this happen with a Best Western, let alone a Best Western Plus.

CapitolRidge, Manager at Best Western Plus Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
I apologize that you did not enjoy the restaurant. I will share your comments with our kitchen staff to see how this can be avoided in the future. Thank you for your comments on the shuttle/front desk staff, and for mentioning John and Ezra name. They all work very hard and we tend to celebrate when you - our guests - notice the difference they make. I will be sure to pass this along to the staff during our next meeting.

"No Air Conditioning"

User 23/07/2019

I stay at Best Western votes twice a week for work, and this by far was the worst experience I've ever had. I checked in after getting in on a late flight and when I got to my room, it was extremely hot and muggy. The air conditioning was not working, and when I called the front desk to get a new room, they said they were aware of the issue and there were no other rooms available so they would get us a fan. Hours later, still no fan, and no other options, help or even a “sorry”. I should have just stayed at the airport at this point because I was sweating the entire night and got no sleep due to the heat. Best Western really dropped the ball on this one, I'd at least like to get my reward points refunded so I can use them on something else and I'll think twice before I even use my points for a free room- this was a really terrible experience.

"Willing to listen to needs and offered services or compromise for those needs."

Rhonda S, Cedar Falls, United States 21/07/2019

I stayed at this hotel with a large group of teenagers attending a conference in Minneapolis. The manager was at the desk to welcome the members of the group and help with check-in. He was a hands on manager and worked diligently with our adults to help understand some of our unique needs. When an issue did arise, he and the staff did everything possible to make it right. Highly recommend this hotel. The location of this hotel is an easy walk to the state Capitol building and the public transportation.

"Short staffed"

Libster2009, Brainerd, Minnesota 21/07/2019

When we arrived there was a line out the door of people waiting to check in. There was one person working the desk. When I finally got to the desk, an hour later, I found out, Felicity was supposed to have been off work two hours earlier but no one had come in to replace her. She was so nice and patient. A very good person and employee. The room was nice and clean. The shuttle was a great convenience. The breakfast had a variety of foods and was good. When we went to checkout there was Felicity, working alone again. At least the line was much shorter checking out.

"Never Again"

Cassie_Travel_Queen, Superior, Wisconsin 20/07/2019

Where do I start? We get checked in around 10pm and get checked into a dirty room.. We got switched to another room without any apology. Then we find out that the HVAC system was under repair, which made our stay pretty miserable. It was so humid it was almost unbearable. The next morning we go to breakfast around 830am, no forks, no cream cheese for the bagels, dry over salted potatoes, and cheap whipped cream that was almost gritty.. So then we take the kids to swim and the pool was cold, the hot tub was luke warm and not ONE single towel on the shelf.. It was right in the heart of St. Paul so the location was perfect but the hotel itself was not worth the money. Next time, I will book elsewhere.

"Amazing Stay in the heart of St. Paul, MN"

Road59526024542, Milford, Iowa 27/06/2019

We were attending a concert at the Xcel Center, and this hotel was all we needed, AND MORE! Close to venue, awesome staff, AMAZING beds (Best night's sleep I've had for a long time!), great food at the restaurant, and the cleanliness of the room was fabulous!

"Best hotel ever"

User 13/06/2019

The woman who checked us in was all smiles and knowledgeable and Soo friendly. The housekeeping staff were extremely friendly and the maintenance worker quickly got us a new ironing board as ours was broke. Every staff member smiled and told us to enjoy our stay and asked us if we needed anything. Hands down the best service I have ever had at a hotel. Our room was remarkably fresh and clean and the shower was sparkling. I love the $10 parking with gate code. I love this hotel and it will be my go to from now on when I'm in the area. It's nice when staff seem genuinely happy and kind. Thank you for such a wonderful hotel experience. I will recommend to everyone. I didn't get up early enough for the breakfast but I'm sure it would have been great. Loved our view of the cathedral too.

"Nice Hotel"

User 13/06/2019

The hotel was nice, staff was very friendly, and breakfast was good. They offered a shuttle, which was nice, but only within a few miles of the hotel. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The price was a little high though.

"Clean, Quiet, Friendly -- just right for me."

krisf679, Spokane 02/06/2019

Stayed here in May '19. My room was clean, the staff attentive and friendly, the breakfast fresh and abundant with good variety. The location is great as the Capitol Lawn is so close you can walk over and enjoy the many memorials.

"Setting up a wedding block"

User 21/05/2019

My fiance and I are getting married in the area so we contacted the hotel about setting up a block of rooms for our wedding. They were very kind and said that they would give us 15 rooms and then, when these had been filled, they would give us 15 more (since we originally asked for 30). They told us that there would be no problem at all and that they could house all our guests as long as we requested more rooms before 30 days before the wedding, so we did not look into any more hotels. But then when the 15 rooms were filled and we asked for more (it was still two months before the wedding and they said the due date to request more was only 30 days before the wedding), they told us that they would only give us 5 more rooms and at an increased rate!!! They originally said that the rate would be $119, but now said that our guests would have to pay $150, way more than they originally agreed upon. I tried talking to the managers and to the corporate office, but no one would do anything for us and insisted that they were breaking our agreement and would not honor their promises. Now my fiance and I have to scramble to try to find a new hotel for our guests that Best Western reuses to house, even though they originally promised they would. This is especially frustrating since we have guests flying from around the globe to come to our wedding, and now we don't have rooms for them since the hotel is breaking its promises and not honoring its original deal. They have also been very unresponsive and we have had to email them and call them multiple times to get any information. It definitely feels like they are avoiding us and trying to push us away. Very unprofessional, I do not recommend doing any business with this hotel.

"Good location, nice room, decent breakfast"

Elizabeth K, San Jose, California 18/05/2019

Very good location in St. Paul; within walking distance to capitol (should you want to hit up some of the food trucks at lunchtime) and just a couple minutes' drive to anywhere else you'd want to go in St. Paul. Pretty friendly staff, good free breakfast, clean rooms. Be aware you'll pay $10 per night for parking (but you'll pay to park anywhere in the Twin Cities).

Happiness68672797992, Cherry Valley, Illinois 16/05/2019

Nice hotel, clean and everyone was friendly and helpful. The hotel is right on the high way and easy to find when you are coming into St. Paul which made that a plus for us . Would stay again if in the area

Clean, comfortable and very affordable. Great over-all value. Ezra at the front desk was great! Love that kid! Very positive and helpful. His attitude was infectious. He's absolutely the kind of person I'd want at the front desk of my hotel!

"Nice place with great meeting space"

Dan M, Saint Michael, Minnesota, United States 29/04/2019

Held several parties here, and they have updated their meeting spaces and rooms. On the expensive end, because they service a lot of people coming to the capitol, which is only 3-4 blocks away. Easy walking distance on a nice day. Not as convenient to downtown, as you need to cross 94, but easy Lyft or bus, and you can walk 2 blocks to University to catch the light rail. Rooms are clean, the restaurant is nice as well, about average for hotels in Saint Paul. Also near enough to Xcel Energy Center for walking in a pinch.

"Love the location!"

ttbarlow11, Minneapolis, Minnesota 28/04/2019

This hotel is conveniently located near the capitol, several restaurants/bars, hospitals, and downtown. The hotel is very clean, beds are comfortable, nice decor. They offer a shuttle service to the airport for a fee and they also will allow you to shuttle for free within 3 miles of the hotel- history museum, capitol, cathedral. It is $10 to park at the hotel overnight, which is very cheap compared to the other hotels. The bar at the hotel is nice, $6 drinks but the restaurant does not offer a variety of food on their menu. The pool and hot tub are very nice! I will def. stay here again and recommend this hotel to others. The customer service is overall good, staff is friendly and professional. The only reason I am giving this place a 4/5 is because the complimentary breakfast was horrible- their hot breakfast consisted of French toast, pancakes, turkey bacon, potatoes- but it was all cold or bland. Their yogurt bar, fruit, etc was good. Overall, I recommend this place! Good for the price- check hoteltonight for better deals. Enjoy!

"If you think about staying here, you DEFINITELY HAVE TO READ THIS!"

"nice room"

User 22/04/2019

The room was clean and well appointed. The handicapped bathroom was very good. The bed was a bit thigh for someone with limited mobility. Room a bit far from the elevator for someone with mobility problems. Good breakfast.

"Great place to stay"

Tour44803498082, Merrifield, Minnesota 15/04/2019

Staff was super friendly and helpful, buffet style breakfast was amazing with MANY choices, the shuttle driver was friendly, accommodating, and careful, the room was comfortable and clean (as we're the beds). I would highly recommend it!

"Great stay"

User 14/04/2019

Stayed for a conference at the Rivercenter and was extremely pleased! The breakfast was awesome. Shuttle service was convenient and timely. Food was great at Peddler's Pub. Staff was pleasant and helpful for the most part. Beds/pillows very comfortable. Bathrooms are small but there wasn't much they could do with them as they put $10 million into the upgrade from the old Kelly Inn.

"Good stay!"

iluv2trvl83, New York Mills, Minnesota 31/03/2019

My husband and I stayed recently for a concert at the Xcel Center. This hotel is super easy to get to and the shuttle took us right down to the concert venue and was waiting for us when it was done. The hotel lobby area is modern and has a welcoming feeling. The rooms are updated however a bit small in size. Parking is available on site for a daily fee. Also, complimentary breakfast was nice as well. Overall- we enjoyed our stay. We also had a great view of the St. Paul Cathedral, which looks amazing during the day or at night all lit up.

"Stranded without a shuttle."

Travel11269093589, Duluth, Minnesota 25/03/2019

The hotel itself was nice. The frustration of a 20 minute check in process was out done by being left at the Xcel center after the event we attended was over because they sent shuttle driver home early. 12 of us were left stranded downtown St.Paul and had to walk back to the hotel!

""Xcel"ent Hotel Choice for an Event at the Xcel Energy Center"

bridgetb958, Omaha, United States 25/03/2019

We chose this hotel because it had group room rates for the 2019 Frozen Faceoff, which was held at the Xcel Energy Center. We weren't sure what to expect, as we had never attended this event before, and had only stayed at one Best Western in the past five years. (We're normally Marriott people.) After this weekend, my husband said, "We're staying here next year!" If you're in decent shape, the hotel is within walking distance of the Xcel. (It was about 8 blocks, I believe.) Easier to get there (downhill) than back (uphill), but do-able. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle, but we didn't end up taking it because the weather was nice and we could use the exercise. Our room had a beautiful view of the Cathedral of Saint Paul. The Interstate was right out our window, but the noise wasn't too bad. (We ran the fan on low for ambient noise.) The room was clean and comfortable. The pillows weren't my favorite, but there were a lot to choose from. The bathroom was small but clean. There wasn't a closet but the armoire was a nice size. The staff was great. Front desk accommodated all of our needs. Housekeeping was super friendly. We ate at the Peddler's Pub the first night. The food was very good and Jesse, the bartender/waiter, was great. Would love if the restaurant served food after 9 p.m., though, because there aren't a lot of food options nearby (within walking distance). The breakfast wasn't what we expected — the website said "cooked to order" but it ended up being a buffet. But it was an *extensive* buffet – eggs, sausage, french toast, pancakes, oatmeal, pastries, and cereal. The eggs were really good. Four types of juice (orange, apple, grapefruit, cranberry). There was also hot water for hot chocolate and apple cider (and this was available throughout the day/evening). As others have mentioned, parking is a bit pricy ($10/day) but it has in/out privileges with the gate code. There is a light rail stop just a couple of blocks from the hotel (3 blocks? towards the state capitol building). (Note: the Xcel is the opposite direction and not on the light rail system, so that's not applicable for those seeking transportation to the Xcel.) Overall, would definitely recommend for folks looking for a hotel close to the Xcel.

"Overnight Stay for a Concert"

NativeIowan, Osakis, Minnesota 19/03/2019

The bathroom fan was overly loud and no extra security (like a chain or extra stop was on the door) but these are my only complaints. The hotel is clean; staff are friendly and a shuttle to the Xcel Energy Center for a concert was a definite plus. The driver was great! The breakfast buffet was better than most, probably due to the fact that a bar/pub is part of the hotel (another plus). The breakfast area was cleaned up after the guests promptly, making way for the next arrival. I appreciate that a lot because most places barely bother. This hotel seems more like a family run hotel rather than a chain. I would stay here again for sure! It is nothing fancy, but more than comfortable and I stress, CLEAN!

I glad you picked up on the "family run". We try everyday to make every guest experience over the top

I just didn't like that my bill increased when i got to the hotel. for the price i could have stayed somewhere else and got better stay. I think 150 is fair but 180 is way too much for a week day, considering other hotels were in the same price range

HIXEagan, Manager at Best Western Plus Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
Thanks for staying. We work to keep our prices competitive with all hotels in the area

"Not very clean right from the rooms to the parking lot"

User 10/03/2019

They charge you $10 to park Per night and they won't even plow their lot had to walk in 10 inches of slush didn't get much of an answer from the front desk she told me that the place didn't clear out till 11 AM this morning while I'm writing this at 6:45 PM my feet are very wet and I comfortable

It was a tough week with all the snow.

"Great Place"

User 26/02/2019

Capitol Ridge is an excellent location to make as your base camp. All the amenities and comfort one would need for a weekend or longer stay. Transportation, public and private are all within minutes . The Cathedral district is close by and the cuisine is varied and exceptional. Cost is reasonable as well.

"Best Stay Ever"

This was one of the most friendly, clean and welcoming Hotel we have ever stayed at! We would stay here again in a Heart Beat! The breakfast menu was outsating and the price is free! The Shuttle Driver was a Hoot!

"Great place to stay for event at the Xcel"

BethanyO472, Saint Cloud, Minnesota 18/02/2019

It was an average room and what I expected for a BW. Nothing fancy, but clean and affordable. Beds and pillows were comfy. Bathroom was small and had a lower ceiling, felt a little cave like, but the shower did have a new tub surround and was clean. The room had a bench by the door, a dresser, a desk, a microwave, a fridge and a wardrobe. It costs $10 for parking, which I think should be comped if you are staying there and only have one car. But, it is a gated area so adds a little safety vs it sitting out in the open. You do get a code to get out at check-in. There is a shuttle that will take you to different places in the area so we were able to take that to the event...actually, the drive took us a block down from the Xcel after he dropped other guests off so we didn't have to walk to the restaurant we had reservations at. Worked out perfectly as we didn't have to take a cab/Uber/Lyft then. We did give him a $5 tip for it though. Overall, good stay. Would stay again.

"1 Night Stay"

User 17/02/2019

Strong smell of cigarette smoke in our room at night. Had to call front desk three times before someone came up to our room. Nothing was done about the odor. Very dissatisfied with way things were handled.

"Wedding Rooms for all!"

User 15/02/2019

What a great property with a great staff. We booked about 20 rooms for our wedding and none of our guests had any issues. They definitely went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. Rooms were clean, breakfast was great, front desk staff was lovely, and our shuttle drivers were AWESOME.

"Only good thing was location"

Elizabeth C, Albertville, Minnesota 14/02/2019

Although the location of this hotel was good to get to meetings at the Capitol, it is a very noisy hotel and the restaurant is not fabulous. I would say just average. Also had an issue with being billed for something I didn't have and they still haven't corrected it. Front desk stated they weren't able to help only manager who wasn't there. Not good customer service at all.

"Amazing place to stay"

User 04/02/2019

The rooms were immaculant and hotel staff were all incredible. The continental breakfast was a bit to be desired as far as a ‘hot' breakfast, but they had fresh fruit and cold foods there to as well. The shuttle bus was 1 of the main reasons we stayed there. They were more than awesome and the driver was so fun.

"Nice and roomy"

Mariyn K, Bear, Delaware 28/01/2019

We stayed just one night as we were traveling through, heading west. Our room was very pleasant, large and roomy. I think it was called an Executive King, but not sure. We ate in the pub located at one end of the lobby and was served by a very pleasant young bartender. Breakfast was just okay. We ate outside on the patio with a view of the St. Paul Cathedral nearby. I enjoy having waffles when staying at chain hotels. While the premade waffles here were okay, they had some kind of crusty glaze on them that I did not enjoy, hence the 4 stars instead of 5.

"Excellent hotel and awesome restaurant"

User 23/01/2019

Highly satisfied with everything the hotel offered. We stayed there for a MN Wild hockey game and they had a free shuttle to and from the game. The restaurant, Peddlers Pub, has awesome burgers! Best we've had and very reasonably priced. Compliments to their great chef!

"Hotel is dirty and staff are high on marijuana."

User 22/01/2019

First room still had visible marijuana smoke in it. We're transferred to another room. Stains on the sheets. Shower head broken. Stains on the floor and ceiling. Was in the elevator multiple times with staff. Every time the smell of marijuana was overwhelming. Talked to the front desk and she said she is used to it?? Do not bring your kids here!!

"Updated hotel"

Compass15805124798, Cohasset, Minnesota 17/01/2019

I've stayed here many times over the years. They are under new ownership that have made some changes. Mostly to the decor. Positives: Decent restaurant, clean, free shuttle to the Xcel Energy Center. Negatives: They now charge for parking in an open lot that is nowhere near any other businesses.

"On a 19 year olds recommendation"

luvrknrll, Minnesota 12/01/2019

Our son stayed here for a college student Senate conference and recommend we stay when we had to travel for another of our kids' competition. We stayed 2 nights. Beds were comfortable. The room was clean, bathroom was very clean. The only noise we heard was traffic. But we live in the woods so we are not used to city sounds. We did not hear any other guests from our room. Pool was fun, enjoyed hot tub. Breakfast was really good, fresh, and a great variety. Staff was fantastic. Each team member we encountered was friendly and helpful.

"Great location, Excellent Stay!"

FamilyDoc19, Mundelein, Illinois 08/12/2018

I stayed at the BW Plus Capitol Ridge for 1 night in early December. I couldn't have been more impressed with the place! The front desk staff were extremely friendly and welcoming (and offered me the free shuttle if I needed it to get to and from my interview), and were very helpful as well. My room was excellent and comfortable. I was placed on the 6th floor and thus had an amazing view of the St. Paul Cathedral! The staff had provided the special request of extra towels before I had arrived, and I couldn't be more pleased. The bed and pillows were comfy, and room was well-appointed otherwise with a mini-fridge and microwave too! Breakfast in the morning was delicious with lots of options, and by the end of my visit, I was wishing I was staying a few extra days just to enjoy the comforts of this hotel! Exceeded my expectations, and I will definitely be back!

"Another good stay"

Odyssey57051346372, Louisville, Kentucky 01/12/2018

Room was clean and properly sorted. Rate was in line with standard BWs, +/- $10 more. This property has a pub/restaurant on site with good food and fair prices. Access to the property is tricky, though. You pass through a gate after taking a ticket. Parking is free for guests. I guess the price for security is convenience. I would stay here again.

"Excellent Hotel"

User 20/11/2018

Stayed one night. I do not usually stay at BW, but another family member was, so did for convenience. This will be my go to hotel when in St. Paul. This hotel will make me consider BW in the future. This had a remodel about 2 years ago, but still looks fresh. The elevator lobbies on the floor are very appealing. Also the elevators are fast. The beds were incredibly comfortable as were the pillows. The rooms were exceptionally clean. The complimentary breakfast was one of the best I have encountered. Included good options for Gluten-free. Account of its location, you do pay for parking. But having recently paid big city prices, the $10 was nothing. Good job. A standout hotel!

"Will stay again!"

cwelljoe, Robbinsdale, MN 07/11/2018

We stayed here because we were attending the Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bad Company concert. We had planned to take a cab or Uber to the show, but when we got to the hotel and were checking in, they asked if we were there for the concert and told us they had a free shuttle that would take us to and from the show. YAY! We were very happy. The driver of the shuttle was fantastic and very patient, as he had to shuttle back a load of somewhat intoxicated people. He was very professional and fun. The room was great, comfy beds, good furniture and a mini refrigerator and microwave. Top notch all the way. Free breakfast in the morning, and on our way. Excellent!

"Excellent Accommodions"

Lyn R, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, United States 28/10/2018

Pros : great location, great room size, very clean, updated with refrigerator and microwave. Large out door parking lot with security entry. Two elevators that worked and were quick. The entry very pleasing and a place to eat with a bar. Everything seemed clean and appealing. My room was on the 3rd floor .. awesome view of the Cathedral. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Exceptionally clean bath room well designed.. small but everything you need. Free breakfast was average but plenty of seating. I would stay here again if in the area. I felt safe with everything I needed and more !

"A Capital Idea! Stay Here"

"ok hotel, noisy room"

boti-boti, Barcelona 24/09/2018

Ok hotel for business. The gym, continental breakfast buffet and internet were fine. Furnishings a bit old but everything worked fine. Room was clean and staff was very friendly. Only problem was my room, on the 3rd floor facing the back of the building, was overlooking the building ac compressor which was very noisy all day. It only stopped from aprox. 11pm to 5.30am, making it difficult to sleep.

"Much Better Than Expected"

Anthony A, Houston 15/09/2018

I selected Capitol Ridge for a my week-long business travel stay after finding my usual hotel chains were completely booked. I didn't expect much - Best Westerns are ok but nothing special - but I was pleasantly surprised with my overall experience. On the plus side, staff were friendly, and check-in and -out were quick and easy. I was able to get a completely itemized bill immediately upon check-out, which was a great help for recording travel expenses quickly. The room itself was very large, with a good desk, king-sized very comfortable bed, large bathroom/shower, mini-fridge, coffeemaker, and other amenities. The hotel has gone through a renovation recently, and although it may not look top-class on the outside, the inside was fine (a little worn here and there, but nothing major). An airport shuttle service is available, which surprised me, as many hotels have stopped that service, in my experience (the airport is roughly 20 minutes away by car). Parking is gated, in and out, but plentiful spaces are available. A restaurant is also in the hotel lobby for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On the downside, other than the hotel restaurant, eateries and other shops are in the distance. If you're willing to walk, there are some good restaurants on the far side of the Cathedral across the highway, but other than those, you need to drive or get an Uber or Lyft. The nearest large grocery/retail shop is over two miles away. The hotel restaurant was ok for breakfast, but the scrambled eggs ranged from cold to lukewarm most mornings, but everything else was fine.

"Nice view but tiny rooms"

roosterlaw, New Rochelle, New York 04/09/2018

The hotel was described as being some 1200 or so feet from downtown. Perhaps the periphery of downtown, but it was quite a bit further to get to any restaurants downtown. On the plus side, the view from the room was pleasant and the staff helpful and polite and the free breakfast was decent, and the hotel does have free parking. The problem I had with the room was with the fact that the room was postage stamp sized. We had two queen beds but there was really no room to sit on the one chair they squeezed in between the wardrobe and the credenza. The TV was relatively small. But worst of all was the size of the bathroom. It was about the smallest I have ever seen in a hotel. the ceiling was no more than 7 feet high (if that high), so that anyone in the mid 6 foot range would feel as if their head was going to go through the ceiling.

"Will stay again"

rboyd714, Sedalia, Missouri 04/09/2018

Not easy to navigate to and from the property, but once you figure it out, it is not a problem. The staff, rooms and amenities are exceptional. Good price for the location. The shuttle service was a great perk for getting to/from the Minnesota State Fair.

"Very pleased with my stay."

mbok2018, North Sioux City, South Dakota 31/08/2018

While getting to the motel was a bit of a challenge due to the road set up, the motel was worth the effort. The room was very comfortable. The overnight snack selection at the front desk wasn't over priced. The front desk employees were super friendly. The complimentary breakfast had quality protein along with yummy carbs. Overall a good experience.

"untrained staff, rude customer service, no breakdown on receipt"

Emily B, Eau Claire, Wisconsin 30/08/2018

Two parts to this review.... 1st part- reserving & billing....... Months prior to my wedding, I had reserved a "room block" for my guests who were coming in from out of town. No problems there. Time goes by & its weeks prior to my wedding. We (groom & I) decided it be in best interest to hire my 20yr old son & a couple of our under 21 relatives, to be the designated drivers for our guests, after our rehearsal dinner party & our wedding reception. In exchange of being the designated drivers, they got tipped by everyone who was driven by them and we (the groom & I) paid the cost for their hotel room. (2 nights) Here is where the confusion starts.... My first phone call to BW, the desk clerk was very nice, but unfortunately she was very confused. We spent at least 45mins on the phone together. We ended the conversation with her advising that we wait until the following day to have the manager book it.....um ok? The following business day, a manager called my (then) fiancé , the manager seemed quite confused by our request of wanting to pay for someone else room. I get it, maybe loss in translation situation .IDK. The week of the wedding we hadn't received any email confirmation so I called BW to confirm the reservations. Spoke with "Vicki" who was a peach. She had informed me that FIVE separate rooms had been reserved for just one night. Not just ONE room for TWO nights. So, fiancé & I drove down to BW to personally clear up any confusion. They took my debit card then said I will be billed once they check out two days later. Billing.... One thing you should know, is that the state of Minnesota has a pretty high "state tax logging fee" , as well as Ramsey county & city of St Paul. Being a part time state employee ,a former WI commuter employee, I am fully aware of these taxes & usually (combined) on average, it does not exceed 13.5%. So I must say it was quite a surprise when I was charge separately for each night & had a 17% tax charge along with each night. 17%. Had my bill been consolidated (as most hotels do) it would've cut $9.00 off of the grand total of what I was charged. It has been one week and I STILL have yet to receive a receipt itemizing the tax charges. That request has been ignored. So Im going off of what my bank statement says. No, there were NO extra charges to the room, no movie orders, no room order food & in fact, the designated drivers were neighboring rooms to a relative who is a federal judge & the other side of their room, was a retired coast guard. And, yeah, for one person that high "tax" fee really isn't THAT much....until you combine a fully booked weekend, the numbers can add up fast. 2nd part-Customer service ...... Even though there were some questionable conversations , leading up to our wedding day, we believed everything was straightened out. Our 3 man crew of designated drivers had no problems the first evening of their stay. Check in was easy & smooth. The second evening however.... Two of our young drivers returned later in the evening, after dropping our wedding guests off. They had the hotel room keys so they headed to their room to discover that their key cards no longer working. So they went to notify the front desk worker. The desk clerk informed them that they had already checked out of their hotel that evening & didn't believe them when they were saying how there personal belongings were still in the room. He said he was not going to help them since neither of their names were on the room reservation & he showed them a bill as evidence that they had been checked out. They were forced to wait for over an hour in the lobby until family members from the reception started to arrive. In the meantime, the desk clerk ordered a pizza & stayed perched at the desk to keep an eye on the guys waiting. Once other relatives arrived, after others customers vouching for them & even offering to pay for their stay, the desk clerk gave new keys while making a comment that management & security will be arriving at the hotel shortly & that they had time to back out of their claim of being in that room. Again, the new keys did not register to their hotel room so the desk clerk (heavily agitated) stomped down the hall to their room, only to discover that his master key card, also was not working properly. He also did a quick glance that their personal belongings were in fact, in the room & left mentioning about management being there shortly. The following day, there was zero apologies made. When I had called, the person I spoke with dodged it with the excuse that she was not there when it all happened & to call back if theres a mistake on my bill. I am still awaiting a response from BW headquarters along with my itemized receipt. I have NEVER left a bad review before. And I hope that if you end up staying there, your experience will be much better than mine & my family.

The hotel lobby and room were nice, clean, up-to-date. Bathroom was a little small, but adequate. There is free shuttle service within a 3 mile radius which we used each day. Breakfast buffet was included. They was a nice selection of food and beverages.

The room was nice and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. The house keeper organized my things in the bathroom to make it easier to see and use them. It was a pleasant thing to come back to. The only negative thing I would say would be that the pub was only open until 9 PM and that the breakfast bar was hard to find in the morning if you did not know where to look.

Rooms were very clean, staff awesome, Continental breakfast was very very delicious . Pool was a little cold but it was OK. We both slept very well very comfortable beds. "We really enjoyed our one night stay!"

mygrls03, MINNESOTA 21/07/2018

I stayed here for one night with my two teenaged children. We enjoyed the room, it had everything we needed. Refrigerator and microwave were useful. The room was clean and well stocked with towels and linen. The bed was HEAVENLY. I don't think I've slept in a more comfortable bed in my life. The mattress was so soft and the pillows were comfortable with the perfect amount of support. The mattress was so comfortable that I need to find out the brand and model! The breakfast was hot and plentiful: eggs, sausage, French toast, pancakes, potatoes, oatmeal along with pastries and cold cereal and yogurt. They had two types of almond milk and kombucha. Lots of variety! The only complaint was that the hot tub chemicals were so strong it burned our eyes. We just turned off the jets and it wasn't so bad. Enjoyable stay!!!

"Ok for short stays, poor for longer stays"

lsA7069FY, United States 20/07/2018

I've stayed here a number of times due to necessity of staying near one location. Staff are generally helpful, and after a freak snowstorm, a staff member even helped shovel out my rental car. However, based on my last experience, I need to point out: as of Spring, there was apparently no safety system in place to prevent staff from accidentally providing room keys to already occupied rooms. I was given the key to an occupied room upon checking in, and had to return to the desk toting all my luggage (after 20+ hours of travel) for a new assignment. Around 10:30 pm when I was trying to sleep, someone else was given a key to MY room. Thankfully I had safety locks in place. I then received a call from the desk, and it was obvious staff had no idea which rooms were occupied and who was in what room. That about finished off my stays here. I generally found this hotel great--at first--but if spending many days (I always had to stay about a week), the downfalls start to become unbearable. Over the course of three stays, never had a room with clean carpet. A/C is mediocre, and turned off during cooler months. It gets quite warm in the rooms at night--temperature frequently up to 75 F. Rooms need more lighting. When I last visited, this Spring, parking was still free--however, you now have to take a ticket to park, and have it validated EVERY TIME you enter and leave the parking lot. Considering that nothing is really in walking distance around the hotel, this is a MAJOR inconvenience for guests AND staff. There is a very good free breakfast. There are very limited washers/dryers for use (2 sets I know of on different floors), and they require tokens from the front desk, which frequently jam the tray when starting the machine. The fitness room is basically a couple treadmills and a partially functioning universal machine, so if you like to lift weights, it probably won't be what you are looking for. Overall, it's fine for a short stay, and the restaurant in the hotel is good if a bit slow. For longer stays, it might be better to look elsewhere.

"No air conditioning, poor service in the pub, and I wasn't reminded to validate my ticket."

kaytay2013, Minnesota 20/07/2018

The last time we stayed here was nice, no problems, but this last time was not so nice. There was no air conditioning in the room. There was only one woman working in the Pub so we didn't get our food for an hour later. And I wasn't reminded to validate my ticket so I had to pay $10 to leave. This was not a good stay. Not sure we will stay there again.

Beatrice C, Visalia, California, United States 18/07/2018

Stayed here while visiting family in St. Paul. Beautiful lobby, excellent customer service and location couldn't be better. I was pleasantly surprised to find a view of the Cathedral from my room. Every night upon returning to the hotel, I was treated to the view of the illuminated State Capitol, what a treat! (It is right around the corner). Accommodations and room temperature were perfect, super clean and in excellent working condition. The microwave and fridge were of use to my family (we had a 5 night stay). The pool and jacuzzi were well maintained. I was most surprised by the full breakfast, always stocked and the area kept very clean by staff. Included were: hot food items, pastries/ bagels, oatmeal, fresh fruit/ juices and yogurt. I look forward to our next visit.

"Do not care about comfort & safety of guests"

grumpyme, Portland, Maine 08/07/2018

Hotel staff was very friendly. Breakfast was good. We had issues with the air conditioning working, it took several attempts to get them to do anything about it. They finally moved us to another room after 2 days of suffering with warm temperatures. The room they moved us to had worse air conditioning problems so they had to move us again. They only moved us after both my husband & I complained several times. The last room was better but still too hot for us. On our last night, we had a funny burning smell in the bedroom. It was at 9:30 PM & we called the from desk to report it. The woman at the front desk came up and said Yes she smelled something but maintenance would not be in until 11:00 PM. We said that was not acceptable and we could not safely go to sleep in this room with the burning smell. It smelled like an electrical burn. She said she could not do anything. We called down to her multiple times and finally told her that if she would not do anything, we will call 911. She did nothing so we had to call 911 to have the room checked out. The firefighters could smell something but could not name what it was but there was no smoke. Hotel still would not do anything. Talk to front desk manager & he would not do anything. How could we be expected to safely sleep in a room with a burning smell. Saw a security guard & asked him to check it out and he smelled it the second he walked into the room. He said he would talk to the front desk. Finally they moved us but she told us we had to wait until she took care of everyone else. Our stay was for a week and we said she needed to take care of us and not make us wait at the end of the line. When I went down to get the key from her, she was bordering being rude when she gave it to me. Never will I stay there again or recommend it. Makes me leary of Best Western hotels if this is how they treat their guests. Please feel free to contact me. Very disappointing in how they handle a burning smell if our room. Safety first.

We really enjoyed our stay here! The staff was extremely friendly and really strived to make sure we had everything we needed! The beds were extremely comfortable and clean. There's a free buffet breakfast in the hotel restaurant in the morning. There were a ton of options to choose from and everything was delicious!

"Clean, friendly, helpful staff"

User 19/06/2018

We stayed here two weeks and we're pleased overall. One day the cleaning staff didn't manage to reach our room to clean until we had returned from outings, so missed out. As we only wanted cleaning every 3 days, this was an annoyance. However, the cleanliness and supplies are adequate, so we were not without necessities. Parking is a hassle, as the grounds are gated, meaning one must enter and exit with a ticket. Plenty of parking, though. The desk staff was terrific and helpful. Breakfast was a pleasure each day with a variety of options, nicer on the weekends, we noticed. The restaurant served interesting dishes, including some refreshing specials. Again, the kitchen/restaurant staff was great. Our only real complaint is that the air-conditioning was not good. We set it at the lowest setting and were still was still warmish. This was true each night, leading to numerous interrupted sleep nights. It wasn't hot, just not sleeping cool.

"Cancellation policy Inacurate"

akprust, Madison, Wisconsin 21/05/2018

Our stays at the BWP have always been exceptional. However due to some unforeseen changes in our plans for this most recent stay we needed to cancel one night, we would not of arrived until after 10 pm and I would of much rather arrived in our visiting city early morning instead of paying about 200 dollars to arrive late and only sleep in our hotel as the pool would already of been closed and no other amenities available to us that late. However this was not an option for us apparently. I called to change our reservation well within the cancellation policy and after talking with about 6 different staff it was not possible to cancel only one date. I was told if I cancelled one date I would not have a room available for the second date of our stay. How is this even possible? Not sure. So we sucked it up. Drove late into the night and payed for an unnecessary stay. In my eyes, it was not money well spent.

"Was expecting better, not really worth the money"

User 19/05/2018

The location and breakfast were the the onlmonrehings that made this hotel worth it. It was only a 20 minute walk down to the river and we walked by the Cathedral on the way down and the Capitol building on the way up. We stayed for one night on a fourteen day road trip. Out of every hotel we stayed at, this was one of the more expensive and lands at the bottom of our list in terms of quality. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable, but the entire floor and room smelled like weed. I'm sure it wasn't really marijuana but it smelled the same and was very unpleasant. The bathrooms are tiny and the shower curtain is awful, the floor gets wet quickly. The ceiling tiles above the shower also can be lifted up by reaching up with your hand. Not a big deal at all really, but a little weird and uncomfortable at a hotel, makes you paranoid someone is watching. The walls are VERY thin, we could hear our neighbors TV during the day perfectly. Then at night it was even worse. Loud noise from somewhere else in the hotel came into our room until 3am, preventing us from getting any sleep until then and we had to leave at 6. In not sure what the noise was from, but it was awful and there was no way to block it out. We covered our ears with pillows and put in ear buds but we could still hear the music and people talking clear as day. The restaurant was good but I likely would not have gone had it not been attached to the hotel. Staff was nice but just as good as any other hotel, nothing exceptional. Wouldn't return, especially not if sleep was a priority that night.

"Great Hotel for Legislative Business"

VikingJake, Frost, Minnesota 24/04/2018

Conveniently located next to the State Capital in St. Paul, this is the place to stay if you're in town for legislative business. The lobby is large and the lobby bar & restaurant has good food and good prices. The complimentary breakfast sets the standard as far as Best Westerns go. The hotel appears to have been renovated recently as everything still looks new and fresh in the lobby and the guest rooms. My room was right next to the ice machine and elevator and for whatever reason it seams like Best Western Plus hotels I've been in recently all have paper thin walls. I could easily hear every time the water ran in the ice maker and every coughing fit from the person next door. Aside from that, the rooms and bathrooms are well lit and the rooms come standard with a fridge and microwave which is always nice. Overall, a very good hotel. Even if you're a light sleeper, the bathroom fan does a good job drowning out the noise.

"Great Stay"

User 20/03/2018

I stayed here for a work/personal trip and was pleasantly surprised. While my check process was brief due to another guest and staff needing assistance, it was uneventful. My room was clean, bed and pillows comfy. The bathroom is small but checks all the boxes. I utilized their shuttle service to the Excel Center on Monday evening and then again on Tuesday morning. My only comment that is less than 5 stars is that I had a room facing the freeway which had more noise than I'm used to sleeping with. I had previously stayed here....25 years ago. They've made some cosmetic changes and it shows. From the shuttle service to the bartender, they were all amazing. I will gladly stay here again.

"Best western-peddlers pub "

debbieskroch, Wisconsin 01/03/2018

Best Western Capital Ridge- Peddlers Pub Review: Stayed at the Best Western Capital Ridge, St. Paul, MN 4 nights for work. 2/26-3/2/18. Ate at Peddlers Pub twice, and well, never again. I could not believe this service. Two waitresses on, Ashley and Chelsey and the bartender, Nathan. Walk in, seat myself, wait for a good 5 min before anyone even notices someone is seated. Nathan, the bartender asks for my drink order (both nights) and says Chelsey will be with me shortly. Ok great. Already a bad taste in my mouth waiting before getting a drink or menu. Another 3 min and chelsey asks if if like a menu. Well, yes. Ok. While I can over hear these two waitresses talk about how busy they are while folding napkins. 10 min. Ok, I finally order. Chicken sandwich and fries, simple, right?! Another 10 min...food comes out. Great. Well, I wait...and wait...not a single person checks back in on me...or offers a refill. All while I can still hear these two bad mouthing customers. Multiple people have came up to Ashley to be checked out. Counted 3. Half an hour goes by before saying anything. Two bites in my sandwich and theres no mayo. I finally just ask for my bill and sandwich to go and a side of mayo, because this was forgotten and never got the chance to ask for a side, since i was never checked on. She comes back to tell me they are out of mayo...out of mayo?! Just wow. This experience was beyond unacceptable. I was in ahh...it was laughable how bad it was. Our agency books numerous rooms at this hotel. Eats numerous meals here. Not to the standards of how great Best Western can be. Someone please contact me regarding this issue. Not to mention the shuttle service, wait times and only have one person on to shuttle people...

"Best stay of our vacation"

captainshark32, Saint Ignace, Michigan 02/02/2018

Stayed two nights at this hotel with my wife and two young sons (1 & 3). We were on a six night, four different hotel trip in the area and this was by far our favorite stay. Front desk staff were personable, shuttle drivers were awesome to talk with, the restaurant was great tasting, breakfast staff attentive to our needs, pool great for our kids, and the room was the perfect set-up for our family of four. We now hold this Best Western as what we will compare our future stays to in what we want/look for in a hotel. Thank you for the great experience! Shuttle driver... I could have talked to John (baseball coach) for hours. Thanks for getting us to the museum and talking with us like we were old friends on the way and back at the hotel. Breakfast... I think I did talk with Josh for hours and on morning two he said good morning to my son using his name. My son couldn't believe he knew it... neither could I.

Loved this hotel, starting with the check-in. The front desk was professional and welcoming, The room looked newly renovated, clean, and was so comfortable, including the bed. Breakfast was perfect !!! cheesy eggs, French toast or pancakes, real almonds for a topping, bagels, fruits, and many extras. The weather was too cold for me to venture out so I was very happy that the hotel had a bar. The hotel have plenty of parking spaces. I would highly recommend a stay at this hotel.

Very disappointed that the pool was not open. A big reason why we wanted to stay at this hotel was because we wanted to use the pool, but were unable to. 2 things negative, pool was down for repairs :( I wanted to enjoy some heat during 30 below wind chill. The phone in the room did not work and they never came to replace it. "Shuttle service terrible"

lynns2018, Belgrade, Minnesota 01/01/2018

We were guaranteed return shuttle service after the concert but the driver went off duty at 9 pm and we were told to call a cab for return trip. There were at least 6 or 8 couples all trying to get cab service back in 10 below temps running around outside for about 45 minutes. Hotel clerk said nothing he could do about it!!! There must have been an owner or employee that could have started the van up and come and gotten us instead of leaving us to freeze

We stay at Best Westerns across the U.S. for work travel and always have great experiences - except for this one. Room was NOT clean when we checked in (floor was filthy, hair in sink and tub, food from last person in fridge, etc.). Didn't even get room service during our stay. "Clean, Comfortable Hotel"

Dogwonder, San Antonio, TX 18/12/2017

The Good: Clean, modern rooms. Very comfortable bed. Nice breakfast (better than most hotels' "hot breakfasts"). Super friendly staff. Free shuttle to riverfront area (until 10 PM). Very good hotel restaurant (surprisingly good). The Bad: The immediate area around the hotel is remote. If you're walking, you won't find a grocery store or decent restaurant nearby. One of the exercise bikes was also not working. Overall Summary: Great choice for a hotel! I especially appreciated the friendliness of the staff. On the weekend, one of the enthusiastic cooks decided to create a special hash (which was amazing).

ALL the Staff were very nice and helpful, The renovations are completed and look great. Loved the hot tub, good food and drink selection at the Peddler's pub. We were making one of our regular trips to the Twin Cites and this one was by tyrain (Amtrak). This was the firts time we decided to stay in downtown St. Paul. The hotel was a short cab ride from the station. Thre train arrives at 10PM and we were pleased with the easy check-in. The employes during this one night stay were coureous and helpful. The hot breakfast was very good. We we be coming back in a week for a stay the night before our train home departs. The hotel will take us to the station by the hotel shuttle in the morning. The driver saide that he would leave a few minutes early if we needed to. The rest of the week we are staying at a BW in Shoreview closer to our family and friends.

"Good price & location, bad rooms"

BB300814, United States 21/11/2017

Stayed for over one week in November, and it was my second stay. Pros: For the price and location, this hotel is a cost-effective option when you have one location you need to stay near. There aren't many options in this specific location. Good restaurant on-site, free parking, and the included breakfast is great. Rooms have small fridge and microwave. WiFi is good. Desk staff always great and welcoming. Cons: The rooms themselves are not clean. Upon arrival, it was obvious my room had not been vacuumed. It was not vacuumed at any point during my stay (though I only had it serviced every other day) and the hallways needed help too. Also found hair on the linens (not mine). Carpet in room was so bad I wore disposable slippers since I could see various types of hair coming up from the carpet onto the tile near the door as I walked back and forth. If you will be doing lots of reading during your stay, bring a book light! Outside of the bathroom and entry, the only lighting is provided by 3 desk lamps. The room was VERY dark. TV channel listings did not match the channels available. Also noticed, when attempting to call the desk, that the telephone for the room was not connected to anything, just sitting there as a paperweight. As another reviewed mentioned, room was WAY too warm at night, and I had the heat off. Hotel does have A/C but it was off for the winter. Ironing board was horribly bent and would not stand on its own. To top it off, one evening I discovered a garbage/cleaning cart riding up and down in an elevator by itself.

We were in town for a concert at the XCEL Center. Hotel is close and an easy drive to the arena. Hotel also offers a free shuttle. Although there are closer hotels, we chose this hotel mostly because of the reviews. They were correct, the employees are outstanding. Everyone notices you and says 'hi'. Great for family (pool) & me (hot tub & beds to melt in!!), rooms are gorgeous, spacious & best (& important to far traveling families) they have Fridges & Microwaves, something I've long ago learned to look for in hotels, Affordable, AND Every Single Staff person is so friendly & helpful you'd think they were the owner!! This hotel does not disappoint!!

"Many amenities!"

lisadE7167UT, Silver Bay, United States 02/11/2017

The shuttle is a great perk - got to and from my training at nearby state agency building faster than I could drive and park. The expanded hot breakfast was incredible! Biscuits/grave, scrambled eggs, waffles, French toast, fruit, granola, steel cut oatmeal....just to name a few! The only downside was the highway noise all night - other than that the room and bed were very comfortable. I will definitely stay again!

This is a great hotel in a great location! We so appreciated that you offered shuttle service to Xcel Energy Center as we were there for the Wild hockey game! Staff was very friendly and helpful! The continental breakfast was very good with lots of choices; and the friendly gentleman that greeted us and made sure we had what we needed was an added benefit!

"Great hotel that has been updated nicely"

kamerong134, United States 01/11/2017

Easy to get to and great staff. Hotel is older but nicely remodeled and clean. I did not use any of the amenities other than Wi-Fi. Food and service was good. Restaurant/Lounge is small but well maintained with good food and good prices. I would recommend this hotel and I will stay here again.

"Very Impressed"

G3912HIchristopherk, Marshall, MN, United States 31/10/2017

The lobby at the hotel was clean, and inviting. The staff was courteous, professional, and helpful. We had a problem with the TV remote, and our key-cards. The staff fixed the issues right away. Although they were minor issues, they treated them as important as any other. The rooms were clean, and tidy. I would definitely stay here again, and have already recommended this hotel to other friends and coworkers.

Jake3055, Minnesota 30/10/2017

I stayed here for business last week. The hotel is nice and clean. Everything seemed updated and in good working order. My room was 76 degrees upon check in- I didn't think much about it and turned the temp down to 65 and went to bed. When I woke in the middle of the night, I was surprised to find my room was still 76 degrees. The front desk advised me that "we are an old hotel and we do not have air conditioning. If you'd like, you can open the window or I can bring you some fans." The window only opens about 3" and doesn't have a screen. How do you do a complete remodel and not add a/c units? What is it like in the summer?? Also, the compressor on the ice maker just outside my door squealed every time it kicked in. I tried to give it a shake/bump but it wouldn't stop. The hotel was full for the conference so changing rooms wasn't an option. I would not stay here again, only for this reason, I prefer it to be cool when I sleep. Not much point in staying somewhere if you can't get a restful nights sleep.

"Wonderful place"

DHharris, MN 17/10/2017

Check in was fast, very helpful and acknowledged as soon as you walk in the door. Took a shuttle to Xcel...Alex was amazing! So nice and took us right to our restaurant of choice. PIck up was a little slow after concert but it was still nice to have this service. Beds were most comfortable, the room was a little on the warm side even after turning AC down. Breakfast was a great perk the next morning, beef hash and red potatoes were the best. Only one complaint...the signs outside the parking gates need to say press 5# AFTER you enter or take your ticket.

Very nice hotel for the price on a concert night. Newly updated rooms and a decent continental breakfast. They have a shuttle that will take you and pick up at the venue, gate 4. If you wanted to walk, it would be about a 15-20 minute walk. We would recommend this hotel. Pet Friendly which is a plus!!!!

User 09/10/2017

Great location and great price compared to the hotels downtown. Only a 10-15 min. walk to downtown and 5 min. walk to Saint Paul's Cathedral. The hotel was clean, nice bar/lounge, great pool and hot tub, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel also has a free shuttle to and from downtown venues. We would stay at the BW again.

"Twin Cities Marathon"

Will S, Indian Rocks Beach, Florida 03/10/2017

I stayed here for 3 nights recenty with my wife and two 6-year old daughters. We were in the area for me to run the Twin Cities Marathon on Sun., Oct. 1st. As far as the location, I would highly recommend it to any future runners looking for a place to stay directly next to the finish line. My wife and daughters were able to walk out the front door of the hotel and almost literally be right at the finish line of the marathon to see me finish the race. I thought the value as far as price paid for what you get was great as well. In other words, the price was very reasonable for such a great location next to the finish line as well as the quality of the hotel. Also, we thought the quality of the hotel was great. Everything seemed clean. Check in and check out was very easy. Computers in the lobby with easy printing for boarding passes. Restaurant near the lobby, which I did not personally eat at, but my wife and daughters at breakfast there while I ran the race and only had positive things to say. Parking was easy. The beds in the room were extremely comfortable. I could go on. Lastly, we took the shuttle to and from the hotel on Saturday to go to the RiverCentre for packet pickup and expo for my race. We had a great experience with that. The shuttle runs on demand. The driver immediately took us and dropped us on when we notified them we wanted a ride, and immediately came and picked us up when we were finished and called back to the hotel to let them know we were ready for pick up. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel, particularly if you are going to the area to run the Twin Cities Marathon.

"Clean and comfortable with great staff"

Cindy H, Rogers, Minnesota 02/10/2017

Everything was clean and well decorated. The bed was very comfortable. The shower head was tall enough that I didn't have to contort to wash my hair. The hot breakfast was delicious. But above everything else, the staff is what stands out in my mind. The front desk clerks, the shuttle driver- everyone was friendly. Even the housekeeper that I passed in the hall smiled and said "good morning." I have to call out the breakfast staff, in particular. I'd had a late night out and tried to sneak in at the tail end of breakfast, expecting to get a very quick meal before they shut everything down. What I found was not what I expected. I had time to sit down and didn't feel rushed at all. The food was still hot and the eggs were not dried out. Josh asked a few times if he could get me anything else or if I needed more coffee. He and Yolanda really made it a pleasant morning, even with my hangover. The hotel was also very easy to get to, for those of us who don't drive in the city very often. That's part of why I chose it. I would recommend this place without hesitation. If I had to find something to complain about... the bathroom in the room was beautiful, but the counter was small. That made it a little challenging to get ready for the night out. And the wardrobe in the room was a little musty- not dirty by any means, but it had a strong scent just from being closed up and unused so I didn't want to hang my clothes in it.

"Clean and very friendly"

322kurtt, columbus, United States 15/09/2017

The hotel is clean, with very friendly staff. Good location near the state capitol building, St. Paul's Cathedral, and downtown St. Paul. Do not eat at the onsite pub: there are far better options within easy walking distance, but the hotel is nice. Breakfast was the usual hotel buffet, which I find unpalatable. Why don't they just cook everything to order, fresh? It can't cost that much more than the horrible buffet they put out now.

"Great experience, helpful staff"

User 14/09/2017

We had a great experience staying at BW. We were in town because my Grandfather was in United hospital. The hotel over all was nice. The shutter service was exceptional. John, the driver, was both a skilled driver and enjoyable to talk with. He was very prompt on timing and flexible as far as dropping us off at different locations. He also gave my children a stuffed animal after our last trip, which they loved.

James T, Encinitas, California 14/09/2017

Hotel desk attendant was rude and disrespectful, curt and unapologetically unhelpful with getting a reasonable room at a reasonable rate. Rooms are over-priced and if you don't have to do business in St Paul, MN, I recommend you stay out of this city. It has been taken over by non-American foreigners and no longer feels like it is even part of America. But if you have to stay in St Paul, don't stay at Best Western. I will dump my BW REWARDS card.

"State Fair"

barbaralU200UC, Livingston, United States 07/09/2017

There are not many hotels close to the MN State Fair and I wasn't sure this would work out. To my surprise they had a great shuttle service that made it so easy. Also, downtown St Paul is charming and we had great walks to the Farmers Market, the cathedral and historic district. It was really pleasant.

"Excellant Stay"

748vickil, St. Paul, United States 05/09/2017

I was in town for some training and was thoroughly impressed with my stay at the Best Western Plus Capitol Ridge. It was conveniently located for me to get to my training and also to get on the highway to head south into Lakeville and other towns south of the cities to visit relatives. The staff was absolutely amazingly helpful and courteous. I thought the price seemed a bit high, but I didn't do any comparisons and the program agency paid for my room.

"Great Staff, Good Breakfast, Clean Room"

273darrinm, Crosslake, Minnesota 05/09/2017

We came to attend the Minnesota State Fair. The shuttle service provided was worth the cost and walking time saved. We stayed four nights and the breakfast was first rate. The staff was friendly and helpful from front desk to housekeeping. Pool and hot tub were fantastic. Only complaint was a warped bathroom door that wouldn't shut and the room was warm at night.

"Great Place to Stay"

User 04/09/2017

Great place to stay. Close to downtown ST Paul without the parking issues. Staff is friendly and helpful. Hotel is willing to shuttle you downtown for dinner or shopping and pick you up when desired. Very quiet environment for sleeping. Clean and newly updated rooms.

"Clean Comfortable and close to the Capitol"

Jeff L, Rochester, Minnesota 03/09/2017

It was my wife's birthday and she had never been to or toured the State Capitol building. So this hotel was a no brainer because it's withing walking distance of the Capitol building. Our first impression was that it's a very nice hotel. The lobby is clean bright and nicely decorated. The young woman at the desk was very courteous and helpful as we were a bit early for check in and they didn't have a room ready. So we decided to go take the tour of the Capitol while we waited. Upon our return the same young woman at he desk had our room ready. We were using points for this stay and I am a Diamond level rewards member. I was a bit disappointed that we weren't offered or automatically given a room upgrade. We have been upgraded at just about every other Best Western we have stayed at. But maybe the fine print in the agreement says you don't get upgrades when using points. Some how though it doesn't seem like it should matter. This was a very very minor annoyance that in no way detracted from our stay. Anyway, our room was very nice, recently renovated, clean and comfortable. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was a bit small, but really how much time do you spend in the bathroom anyway. I was a little dismayed that there wasn't a binder in the room with a hotel directory in it. Also no information on the Best Western Rewards program. Minor things, but they should be in the room. The next morning we made use of their fitness room which was typical for hotels of this type. Two treadmills, a couple stationary bikes and a cable machine. Completely adequate for my needs. Breakfast was again typical, no waffle maker but they had scrambled eggs, sausage, hash of some sort and the usual selection of cereals, oatmeal, pastries, coffee and juices. One thing I really liked was that they had Almond milk, that was a big plus for me as I shy away from regular milk. All in all we had a nice stay and will return if the need for us to stay in St Paul ever comes up again.

"Thank you"

roxannem335, West Fargo,, United States 31/08/2017

Thank you to the kiind, courteous professional staff-they were amazing in all areas for making my stay so great in a trying time. The shuttle is convenient, food very good, staff exceptional. I'm lucky I landed here when I booked online as I didn't know where to stay.

"Another great BW experience"

charlesmA3929FJ, madison, United States 30/08/2017

Best Western is my hotel of choice and this was no exception. This facility has updated its appearance and is a very convenient, and pleasant place to stay. Within walking distance of many of the St. Paul destination locations, it is a great choice. It is quiet and clean with a very helpful staff.

User 28/08/2017

Sadly, we didn't give the room a once over until the next morning when we were packing up to leave. The long, black hair (I have short blonde hair) in the shower, pony tail holder on the floor and sticky nights stand, I probably could have let go. Gross, but not anything I really had to come in contact with. As I was doing a final check to make sure we had all of our belongings, I found a credit card receipt dated 4 days prior to our stay IN the sheets IN the bed! I can only assume that this means my husband and I slept on dirty bedding and am THOROUGHLY disgusted! When I said something to the gal working the front desk, she said she would have the front desk manager call me. Three days later and still no call, so I called back and left a message for the general manager this morning. It is now end of business day, and I have not heard anything back. I am disgusted by the fact I slept in dirty bedding, and even more disgusted at the lack of response from this hotel. I will never stay at this hotel again.

"Great Hotel"

647tamarak, St.Paul, United States 26/08/2017

Overall a great hotel. My room was very clean. It was quiet. Great staff. Wonderful free, easy parking. Hotel is located near major roads, easy access to get on quickly and get to my destinations. Only thing that I would improve is the height of the ceiling in the bathroom, a little claustrophobic feeling.

"Great hotel for the price!"

Continental breakfast was one of the best I have ever had. Lounge had great knowledgeable staff. Modern design. Close to all of St. Paul, MN attractions and restaurants. Close to children's hospitals and museums.

"Great on the outside and inside"

Melissa B, St. Paul, United States 15/08/2017

The hotel is esthetically appealing. The restaurant food was very worth the $$. The shuttle is convenient as well. With the new room remodels, it feels like you are staying in a brand-new hotel. It smells new, feels new and the staff are professionally dressed. The continental breakfast is one of the main reasons I chose this hotel for my business trips to St. Paul.

"Newly Remodeled"

Very nice hotel right by the capital and Hwy! Pool looks like it was just redone as well! Rooms were very clean and crisp! Nice that they have a lounge restaurant so you don't have to leave to get a quick bite to eat at night.

carolyncR9678QJ, Stone Mountain, Georgia 12/08/2017

Courteous staff, nice location, not far from airport, and a very good breakfast. The room was clean and the bathroom tub\\shower was clean with good water pressure. Shuttle service available for 3 mile radius.

"Excellent place to stay"

Val M, Saskatoon, Canada 08/08/2017

This hotel was an excellent place to stay. The hotel was recently completed up dating its decor which is pleasant and welcoming. The rooms are tight but we had no intentions of staying indoors during our visit. The front desk clerks were very pleasant and helpful as were the waitresses/bartenders in the restaurant. The complimentary breakfast was excellent and plentiful. The shuttle service and its drivers were an unexpected perk of our stay! If you need to go further than three miles from the hotel the nearest Metro stop is only 2 blocks away, an easy walk. The only complaint our party had was the pool's temperature, it was a little too cool for our liking. I would certainly stay at the Capitol Ridge again.

"Pet friendly hotel walking distance from State Capitol"

Didi P, Plano, Texas 08/08/2017

Pleasantly surprised with this hotel because it was pet friendly and walking distance from the stunning Minnesota State Capitol building. Pet friendly for a fee of $20 per night. Ours was waived because we were a rewards member. We got an upgrade with the only available pet room on the 4th floor, which was right beside the ice machine (we appreciated this) and the elevator. The room was HUGE. I wished though that there was a proper dining table for eating meals.

"Great Hotel!"

Samantha A, New Prague, United States 07/08/2017

Hands down would recommended this hotel! Super nice staff, they have a pub that serves delicious food, and open until midnight for drinks. Free, hot breakfast in the morning, a free shuttle service that is very convenient if seeing a show at the xcel or doing something else close. Comfy beds and bigger then most hotel size fridges in room, nothing negative to say about my stay here

E6682PKbrittanys, Winona, United States 03/08/2017

This hotel was amazing. Employees were friendly and welcoming. Lounge was fun, clean, and friendly- drinks & food were really good! Manager was very nice, friendly, informational. Room & hotel was very clean. Very nice soaps, shampoo, etc. LOVED the big, soft, comfy bed- I felt like I was sleeping on a cloud! Breakfast was good! Hot pancakes, juice, and plenty of other choices!

"Comfortable stay with updates and pleasant staff"

mrsasch, Oak Creek, Wisconsin 02/08/2017

We booked this room last minute due to problems with an Airbnb we had planned on staying. One hitch was that I called to ask about a room, and they said they were booked. I then went to bestwestern.com, and was able to book the room...so that was weird. The room we got was an odd layout, and seemed to not be the same scheme as online pictures. However, I'm not complaining as the room we got was HUGE. We had the ice machine on one side, and a little storage room on the other side, so no neighbors! The room was clean, the staff was nice, especially the restaurant staff. They have a nice, basic indoor pool/hot tub. A definite bonus was the free breakfast daily, basic continental. It was a definite plus to save money and grab something to eat quick before the day. I really don't have a bad thing to say. It was a good price, a 10 minute walk to downtown, with nice staff and rooms.

"Comfortable bed; breakfast only until 9 am."

jodye625, Duluth, Minnesota, Usa 02/08/2017

Upon arrival, plumbing did not work..called front desk and they had shut it off due to issues. Would have been nice to know upon check in... Thankfully we had hand sanitizer with until plumbing was fixed. A/C unit was really loud in the AM right before we checked out... Not sure why. Breakfast was only served until 9 am so unfortunately we missed it. Bed was very comfortable...thankfully!!

inspctr13, Duluth 01/08/2017

Upon checking in, tell your guests that there is no water in the hotel so they have the option to stay at another hotel. We were outside all day, sunscreen and sweat. We couldn't wait to get in and shower before we went to fogo de chao (Awesome) and GnR (Awesome!!). Instead, I was melting friggin ice cubes. Thanks for nothing Worst Western Ever!!

"Best breakfast experience and most pleasant staff"

Marla A, Stevens Point, United States 26/07/2017

We do not have any complaints about our stay. The staff at the front desk were most pleasant and friendly, our room was clean, the room temperature was just right, the beds were comfortable and the breakfast was the best breakfast at any hotel we stayed at. The food was continually stocked, the area was kept clean and the staff were so accommodating, friendly and hard-working. We will be staying here again.

Very pleasant hotel, king bed room spacious, clean, very comfortable. Bathroom clean, shower great. Easy parking. Great location. No airport shuttle, just local within 3 miles - did not use it. Hot breakfast ok, but same each morning. Had nice fruit. Hotel staff very pleasant and accommodating. Could not stay the last night as the room price nearly double due to a concert. Overall, highly recommend.

"Great place to stay"

dadandtad, Portland, Oregon 18/07/2017

I chose this location because it was a short easy walk to the Minnesota Historical Society. They do have a shuttle service that will take you within a 3 mile radius of the hotel if needed. The hotel did not disappoint! Superb breakfast, nice rooms, excellent location for State Capital needs or spending time doing research at the Gales Library.

"3 Star Experience due to lack of amenities and LOUD construction noise."

JAKBELAIR, Los Angeles, CA 11/07/2017

We had to stay at this hotel because of an athletic association's rules. The hotel has been newly renovated and the beds are good and towels, decent and fluffy. Water pressure is o.k. and the bathrooms nice. The staff members who service the rooms are amazing. The rooms are clean. The downsides are: 1. Horrible construction noise and no offer of a discount at check out.. Also, no notice on the website that property continues to undergo renovations. 2. No room service and a breakfast buffet, that while adequate, closes before its scheduled time if no one is in the dining room. Because the property is isolated you have to drive to get your coffee if you miss the buffet. 3. Food service in the restaurant ends at 9:00 p.m. last call is between 10:45-11:00 p.m. If you are playing into the evening, this is a huge inconvenience trying to feed a group of athletes. 4. There is no dry cleaning or laundry service per amenities section. There are token operated washer and dryers. 5. There is no safety deposit box at the desk per the website amenities section. 6. If you are doing anything in Minneapolis, book another hotel because this is a 10-15 minute trip via cab or Uber to downtown on a holiday weekend. For the price they charge per room, I think Best Western needs to extend their food and beverage hours to accommodate guests.

Great location, great staff, great facility, great breakfast and great view of the city. Close to attractions and shopping. Spacious rooms and beds are easy to sleep in. New features are a secure parking lot and beautiful interior decor.

This hotel is nice. Still in the process of being remodeled. Food is good in the lounge but service is super slow. Staff not very knowledgeable about places to eat. Beds are super comfy. Once the renovations are done I would go back. A little noisy in the morning from the workers.

Hotel worked out great for our concert. We could walk to the stadium in less than 15 minutes. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were in good shape and seeing the construction going on they are working on keeping things up to date. I would recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the area.

"Close to everything"

ramiroc481, Osoyoos, Canada 11/06/2017

Atfirst we were hesitant if we had chosen the right place, but after our first day of exploring, we realized that these hotel was so central and close to transportation and all downtown attractions. We left our vehicle at the hotel during the three days and did everything on foot an by Metro.

"Nice Hotel, Good Location"

lindajX3634EK, United States 30/04/2017

They have recently remodeled this hotel. The decor is nice and modern. My room was small but comfortable. There was a microwave and refrigerator in the room. They now serve complimentary hot breakfast buffet. Nice selection of hot food items (eggs, pancakes, sausage, potatoes), plus the standard continental breakfast items (bagels, danish, muffins, cereal, oatmeal, fresh fruits etc.). There is a free shuttle that will take you wherever you need to go in a 3 mile radius. Shuttle service was fast. Very pleased with my stay.

"Worth the price"

745christya, FARGO, United States 30/04/2017

I was concerned that this hotel was too far away from the convention center, but it was actually perfect! And, If I didn't want to walk, they offered a shuttle to drop us off or pick us up! It was very clean, the room was very nice and comfortable. I am totally planning to stay there next year!

Brian F, Manager at Best Western Plus Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
Thank You for the response and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. We always have a complementary shuttle to and from the Xcel Center every time there's an event going on. Make sure you join us again when you are in town.

PamSche4456, Barnesville, Minnesota 28/04/2017

1st of all I want to state that the hotel is completely remodeled. The rooms are extremely small. The bathroom is micro, with no counter to place your personal hygiene items on. The beds are comfortable. Now onto my why I am placing this review. When we checked in they had us checking in the night before when in fact that I had a confirmation from the hotel stating our actual check in date. She proceeded to tell me that they were booked for that nite and that the only rooms that she had left were 1 room with no heat ( we just had a snow storm it was 25 degrees out) or one that they were unsure of what the temp was in the room because the thermostat did not work. She however offer me a 50,00 reduction in the hotel fee. (WOW). Since it was late and we all were tired after being on the road for 5 hours we decided to take the room. We decided to have a bite to eat at the restaurant were they proceeded to tell me that they did not have any ranch dressing left (SORRY....) what restaurant runs out of ranch dressing? The next morning went down for coffee well guess what, "so sorry I am out of regular coffee I sent someone out to the store for more". Once again really who runs out of regular coffee at 7:30a in the morning. As you can see not overall very happy with our experience with this hotel.

Brian F, Manager at Best Western Plus Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
Thank You you staying with us Pam and I apologize about the inconvenience that occur when you stayed with us. I will let you know that because of your response we have taken the steps to make sure that this never happens again to anyone. Again thank you for staying with us.

"Unhappy about the Bar"

User 24/04/2017

Overall the Hotel and rooms are excellent, the only concern we had was that the Bar closes at 11 pm on a Concert/Sporting Event night and we were looking forward to unwinding with a few drinks and there was nothing except to go to bed. Not impressed with that

Brian F, Manager at Best Western Plus Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
Thank You for staying with us and I do apologize about the inconvenience of the bar closing at 11pm. Here at Capitol Ridge we value our customer feedbacks so we will look into this. Again Thank You for staying with us.

"Nice hotel"

428robertak, Duluth, Minnesota 16/04/2017

It is a great hotel to stay at to go to wild games. We love it however this time they were still working on the hotel and did not offer comp. For the inconvenience. Some things are starting to open up and other parts are still under construction. Trying to get to the lobby is crazy.

Brian F, Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
Thank You for staying with us for the Wild Games. Hopefully you used our shuttle to go down and back. As always we will take you down to the game and back. Shuttle services are complimentary and we can take any hotel guest within 3 miles of the hotel. It doesn't have to be for the games. Ask about it at the front desk the next time you're in town. Also we are almost done with the hotel renovation so make sure you check us out again when it's done.

"Remodeled, Looking Good"

PriusGirlVA, Arlington, Virginia 14/04/2017

This hotel has obviously just finished a renovation. Actually I shouldn't say finished, since they are still working on the 7th floor. I was trying to work from my room this afternoon and there was loud banging and drilling going on a couple of rooms down. I can't hold that against them though because not many people are stuck in their hotel room at 2 in the afternoon so I'm sure they thought that they wouldn't be bothering anyone. My room is nice. The bed is comfortable, but the first night the sheets were too big and had a hard time staying put. The wi-fi is pretty good, though I wished there was also the option to plug in with a line to get a more consistent connection. The room is clean and obviously just redone. Everything in it seems brand new including the ironing board, the shower curtain, and the hair dryer. It's so brand new that I found a piece of wire in my bed from them working on wiring and another one on the floor. . The toiletries are okay but there is no lotion. I would think that would be a small cost to the hotel and would add a nice bonus for the guest. The bathroom is a little too small to be functional. You can't really do much to get ready comfortably in the bathroom. Also, when you turn on the light switch it turns on a very loud bathroom fan. The fan would be nicer if it could be turned on and off independently of the light. They have a shuttle that will take you anywhere within 3 miles of the hotel. That was a nice benefit. I wished it ran a little later into the evening though. The breakfast is included with your room right and it was okay. Front desk staff are very nice and helpful. I I hoped to get a drink at the hotel bar one evening but it had closed early. That was disappointing. The most problematic part of the stay is that the temperature unit in the room doesn't control the temperature. They have obviously just put a new one in, because there's a big hole underneath the thermostat. The wall literally has a big hole where the old one used to be I guess. That looks bad, but is not as bad as not being able to control the temperature in your room. I asked the cleaning lady when she was in today if she knew how to do it and she said I was doing it right but there was a known problem. I'm not sure what's wrong with it but no matter what temperature I set the thermostat at it doesn't change the temperature of the room. So it's been either too hot or too cold for the whole stay. It's nothing that is hugely disturbing but the temperature of the room is something that I expect to be able to control while I'm at a hotel. The renovations of the spaces seem to be well done they just need to go back in and check each room to make sure all of the little things are functional. Hotel seems surprisingly empty so I hope that they get some gas to start staying here to recoup their renovation investments

Brian F, Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
Thank You for the feedback about the thermostats. We are addressing this issue right now so that you or anyone else will not have this problem in the future. Please join us again the next time you are in town and try out our new menu.

"Definitely stay again"

User 12/04/2017

Pros Clean and well decorated room. The bed was comfortable, slept through the nights from exhausting days. Everyone of the staffs we encounter were very friendly and helpful. The staffs that ran the free continental breakfast buffet did a excellent job on refilling everything. Hotel is easy to get to and free parking! Cons I dont mind punching the code when entering the premises but wish the bar would automatically go up when going out. Lastly it would be nice if the tv monitor for the pool and jacuzzi was out of sight from everyone in the lobby. I have a sick family member whom I'm trying to visit at least once every 2 months. I will definitely stay here again instead of downtown.

palrn, Milwaukee 08/04/2017

Nice rooms. Josh who runs the breakfast buffet goes out of his way to be helpful. But buffet itself was so so. Pancake machine was cool. Our room was near byway and noise level was high. Had trouble with air conditioner.

Heat kept coming out of the vent no matter what you did and the window only open 2" so I sweat it all night it was a terrible stay. Supervisor got me water which was nice. But the heat came back on later that night

"Very comfortable place to stay."

sandyBrowerville_MN, Browerville, MN 01/04/2017

Since the total remodeling, it's a new and beautiful place that's close to many things. Parking is free and there's a free breakfast now. Staff is very friendly and eager to please you. I especially want to say the breakfast dining room attendant, Cherelle, did an excellent job of waiting upon the customers. I noticed she was adding more freshly made scrambled eggs about 10 minutes before the closing time and asked her about waste. She indicated many guests wait until the last minute to come to breakfast, and she wanted to make certain there was food available. The pancake making machine was a delight to watch for the younger children. Everything was very clean. Our room on the 6th floor was quiet - we were not on the side of the freeway traffic or close to the cooling equipment. Of course, the view did not include the beautiful Cathedral or the sunrise, but a quiet night of sleep was better. The bold one colored wall was interesting. Bathroom area was a bit small and the constant fan noise was annoying. It came on when the light was turned on. Nice closet and dresser storage. Nice mini fridge and microwave.

Brian F, Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
Thank You for your awesome review and I will pass this on over to Cherelle so she knows that she is doing a great job. Hope to see you the next time you are in town.

Sarah L, St Cloud, United States 25/10/2016

On a business trip with expectations of amentities on site only to find the hotel was under construction and the pool, bar and restaurant were all closed. In addition, the business center was unable to assist me with completion of tasks as I could not access the internet or print. In addition, my bathroom ceiling flooded during my stay, though, maintenance was not available to assist me at that time as it was after 9 pm. The shuttle did not run past 9 pm and without a restaurant on site I had to travel for dinner. Overall, the room cleanliness was poor, with pet hair along the walls/carpet. I could go on, but overall just a poor experience.

"Saint Paul's Best"

Annmarie T, Shingletown, United States 22/10/2016

Excellent hotel located right next to Capitol. Our room had a breath taking view of beautiful Basilica of St Josephat. Bonus is the free shuttle to local attractions & restaurants. Great location to explore all of St Paul.

"Frustrated with Non-Notification of Construction"

Christen W, Aurora, United States 21/10/2016

Pool was closed. Had a 3-year old. Was not notified prior to check-in and construction was planned. A/C didn't work correctly, was 85 Degrees in the room at one point. Temperature fluctuated from cold to hot on faucets on their own.

"AMAZING, even better than last year!"

Shanda H, Barron, United States 10/10/2016

I love this hotel. The staff is AMAZING, the location is great for the TC Medtronic race weekend, the rooms are wonderful. I felt very well taken care of. This was my second stay, and I have already booked my next. I am so happy I came across this beautiful little gem.

"Staff made up for missing amenities"

CarryOnAMusing, Orlando 28/09/2016

Best Western Plus Capitol Ridge was under going serious construction when we stayed. However, we hosted our wedding block here, and we couldn't have been happier! The manager went above and beyond, as did all his front desk staff. Housekeeping was very courteous and cheerful. We felt welcomed and well taken care of. Renting a shuttle through them was also easy, convenient, and the driver was very pleasant.

"excellent in transition"

pghdds76, Hurley, Wisconsin 21/09/2016

The staff was excellent in handling the remodeling in the lobby area as we checked in. They were very courteous and gave us a summary of the work being done. The rooms were spotless and the beds were delightfully comfortable. It was a great choice to stay.

"Megs B-Day Bash"

Joanna S, Fresno, United States 20/09/2016

Great place to stay. Central to the airport the metro, sports events, sight seeing. Helpful and friendly staff. In town to celebrate my daughter's birthday with her wife and good friend and to see Blake Shelton. Awesome concert - awesome time at Mall of America, trip down the Mississippi and seeing the beautiful country side so lush and green.

"Great, and will be even better after construction"

Ashley W, Storm Lake, United States 19/09/2016

Starting with the location- it's a pretty great location. You can see the stunning Cathedral of St Paul (not to be confused with the capitol building) from the south side of the hotel. You're right next to the interstate, which was a good thing since it can't be heard from inside the hotel and it makes for easy travel. The construction on the exterior and our room was clearly already completed. It looks very sleek from the outside and the room was very nice. The lady who checked us in was extremely friendly and the rest of the staff was pretty friendly as well. The lobby was still under construction when we went, so it looked pretty rundown, but once we got to our room, we never could have known it was under construction. We were on the second floor on the north side of the hotel, which has the worst view in the entire hotel (a metal wall of sorts), so if you care about view, request not to have that area. Once construction is completed the hotel restaurant will be serving free hot breakfast, which will be nice. As for the breakfast they served when we were there - it was good enough. Eggs, bacon, and pancakes were the hot options, along with the typical non-hot items. Free parking was also a great perk. You can (safely) walk to downtown from there, although you do go through a part of downtown briefly that has some homeless and 'street' people. So, if you're afraid to say no to a person asking for money or you're alone, just drive. Only other things worth while mentioning are that there was a fridge and microwave in the room and that the shower is a walk in shower with no tub. Otherwise, the room was a nice, typical, clean room.

"Under construction. Worn, smelly room."

tfiddy, Thornton, Colorado 04/09/2016

I booked this hotel based on price and location. Come to find out, upon arrival, that the hotel is under construction and the water would be shut off from midnight until 4 am. They did not get the water turned back on until closer to 6 am, preventing me from taking a hot shower prior to my business meeting and day of travel. When I called the front desk to speak to a manager I was told he would call me back. Two weeks later and I've never heard from them. The room very worn with stains in the bathroom and cigarette stink on the walls. I'm traveling back to St Paul at the end of this month and definitely will not be staying at this hotel. Very poor customer service.

we stayed here for a 3 week the rooms were very nice the staff was totally awesome front desk and cleaning staff pool was nice too it was august of 2014 we actually stayed there restaurant food was good we had a breakfast that was included dailey

"MN vacay"

kkmoves, Seattle 23/08/2016

Overall, the hotel was servicible. However, the room is small and the decor needs to be updated. Plus, there needs to be more options for setting up a work stating and for ability to plug in devices to use or charge.

"My reservation was cancelled by the hotel 2 days before our expected arrival"

Bonnie T, Minneapolis, United States 11/08/2016

My husband and I plus another couple were booked here to celebrate 2 birthdays in the group. We had dinner reservations and tickets to the Ordway Theatre. Made all of our arrangement only to be emailed 2 days ahead of the event to say the hotel was overbooked and our reservations were no longer valid. Will not recommend this hotel. Very disappointed. We ended up staying in MPls as there no longer were rooms in St. PAul of which were affordable.

"Never Again"

User 09/08/2016

First off, the hotel was under construction and the bar/lounge/restaurant was not open. We waited for 50 minutes for the shuttle service and called 3 separate times. They never communicated with the driver we were waiting, then had shift change and still nobody told the driver. We really enjoyed Alex as our driver, but we are sad that he works for a company like this. I'll give him 5 stars, other than that you get one star.

Linda S, Eagan 08/08/2016

We are extremely disappointed, we booked a reservation on 8-4 through trip advisor for the night of 8-9. On 8-7 (we get an email, not a phone call which if traveling not everyone has access to email) telling us the hotel was over booked and we no longer have a place to stay, they were willing to re-book us in a hotel quite far away, which defeats the purpose of booking so close to our venue. We had to cancel our arranged transportation as well as other arrangements made for that evening which was very time consuming and put us in a horrible position!! They were irresponsible in their professional commitment to trusting customers, and do you really think I would allow them to re-book us a room after the above stated??? It was very upsetting to us, I can't imagine if we trusted them to arrange flight/hotel and transportation for us and have this happen. Use this site with caution!! We were told that this hotel did NOT tell them of the situation despite stating in contact with trip advisor!

"Under Major Construction!"

Kelly C, Fort Frances, Canada 02/08/2016

You would think a hotel chain as large as Best Western would indicate on their website that a hotel is under massive renovations. There was no lobby, no restaurant, and barely a reception desk. Hotel rooms are dirty, outdated, smell old, have low ceilings, and bathrooms feel like you are in a small camper, and not a nice one. We had to switch rooms because of a leaking fridge with food in it - Yuck!

"Nicest people in a hotel ever"

User 28/07/2016

John, the shuttle driver and Deanna, the front desk person, and both of the people manning the breakfast room were some of the kindest people I have ever encountered in a hotel/motel. When I called to see if I could store my luggage there (our train arrived way earlier than check in time), they immediately sent the shuttle. When John arrive we were greeted as if we were family, treated as if we were family, while John went above and beyond to help us get an idea of what we were going to plan for our family during our short stay in St. Paul. When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted with kindness and given access to our room early since one was available. I asked if they thought that coffee might perhaps still be available at the breakfast room and we were sent up there to take that chance. As it turns out, the young man up there made sure that we had access to breads, muffins, pancakes, juices, yogurts, and the beloved COFFEE! We were so thankful. The kindness extended when the John offered to shuttle us to one of the local attractions that was inexpensive and then agreed to come in a few minutes early the next day to get us to our train on time. What a fabulous experience... Because of the hospitality, I barely even notices the construction.

Richard H, Madison, United States 20/07/2016

Always a great stay, great staff, and getting better with the hotel improvements. A beautiful walk from the hotel to downtown St Paul. Not to far away from MOA. Shuttle service to Shriner's hospital and around St Paul. We always stay here.

"Good value & location"

User 09/07/2016

Nice place to stay. It was pet friendly and the staff was nice overall. It is undergoing renovation but they kept the noise away. Clean rooms, good food. No complaints. It is in a good location. I would ask for an upper floor.

"Above Average"

Lee Xeng T, Appleton, United States 08/07/2016

My stay experience was above average, was not the most fancy hotel but a great deal and well worth the money. Guest service was about average, nothing too complicated. Same service you get at any friendly retail store. Besides the line of wait at check in, the check out process was less than 5 seconds, they asked for our name, room number, and key cards and we were out. I would return to this hotel in the near future for other trips.

"Short Review"

Paul P, Amherst, United States 06/07/2016

We chose this BW due to its proximity to the Amtrak train station. One problem was no van service because it was the 3rd of July. But breakfast was excellent, especially the chocolate chips and pancakes.

"A nice place to stay."

BD R, Minnesota 05/07/2016

The hotel was under construction so that part of it was not that great, but the breakfast and everything else was worthwhile! The staff were friendly, the amenities were nice, and it was close enough to downtown!

"Don't mind the construction..."

Tim I, St. Paul, United States 27/06/2016

Nice room, great breakfast staff, good protein options for breakfast (eggs, almond milk, Greek yogurt, bananas, etc), and right of I-94. It was a good stay for business purposes. Only problem is I could not get the printer to work in business center/fitness room.

"Under Construction"

Michael S, Iowa City IA, United States 25/06/2016

OK for under construction but water temperature did not remain constant. Noise from construction occurred periodically. Only three days was ok. And the scrabbled eggs are reconstituted instead of real eggs.

"Nice Room, Friendly Staff"

cldwntr, MN 17/06/2016

I picked this hotel because of its proximity to the State Capitol and was not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and willing to help and the room was clean with (woo hoo!) comfortable pillows! Bathroom was a little small, the overall a good hotel experience.

"Under construction"

420pamelaq, Rochester, Minnesota 14/06/2016

It would have been nice if the website had indicated that the property was under construction. I don't think I would've stayed here had I known this. I was counting on using the on-site restaurant after check-in, but come to find out there is no restaurant while the remodel is taking place. Had to order take out, with limited options.

"Comfortable Place to Stay"

Nancy F, Dallas, United States 05/06/2016

We stayed here one night before we planned to board the train in St. Paul the next day. The location was fairly close to the station and they provided a shuttle. Unfortunately, the shuttle didn't show up the morning we were leaving, but an on-the-ball clerk called a taxi (free to us) and we made it to our train before it left. The hotel is being renovated, but we did not experience any noise at all while we were there. We enjoyed the cute Western Sculpture Garden nearby.

"Construction Nightmare!"

Melshopper, Fargo, North Dakota 31/05/2016

We stayed here to attend a Wild hockey game. The hotel did not tell me it was under construction at booking. It was so loud, we couldn't even hear the TV! The noise began around 6:00 am! We paid $170 to stay for 1 sleepless night! Because of this experience & a waste of money- I would never return here.

"Great staff, nice hotel"

User 29/05/2016

The staff was great. Very kind and helpful. Hotel was under renovation, which did not impact our stay in any way. The appearance of the hotel will only improve the look of the hotel. The staff did not seem to need improvement.

"Distracting Construction"

Rob_Wolff, Brooklyn, New York 23/05/2016

This was a relatively adequate hotel, with friendly, helpful staff and a couple of nice amenities – in particular, a shuttle service which will drop you off and pick you up in the nearby downtown areas within a 10 minute drive or so. The pool was nice and sizable, and seemed clean and well-kept. The room was decent - bed was fine, but the bathroom was a bit iffy - seemed outdated, with a decent-sized hole around the showerhead. My main gripe here was that they were in the middle of a major (re)construction, during which they are remaining open. The main entrance was closed, which made accessing the place was a minor inconvenience (and hard for our Uber drivers/food delivery to locate). More importantly, walking through the lobby on a couple of occasions, the air seemed dusty and filled with some debris and gave me some coughing fits. I understand construction is necessary at times, but better efforts to keep the main areas clear should have been taken. There was no indication whatsoever on their website that the construction was ongoing. And I really don't feel as if the price we paid reflected any kind of discount on their base rate whatsoever, which I think might be warranted given the ongoing construction.

"Construction Disaster Area"

User 15/05/2016

Would not even consider returning to this hotel until all construction and renovations of the exterior and interior are completed. The exterior was surrounded with scaffolding, entrance was difficult to locate, lobby is under construction, restaurant was closed for renovation. Rooms are tired, old broken in mattresses with big sags in the middle. Only great thing was the view of the cathedral from my window. Don

"Wonderful Experience!"

Anita A, St. Paul, United States 02/05/2016

After many stays at the Embassy Suites downtown St. Paul, one stay with the new Best Western Plus was amazing!!! I thought the experience would be less than the Embassy Suites, however; it was much better even with the remodeling going on. We just loved it, very kid friendly as well. Anita

"Running right during construction"

Kevin H, Stone Lake, United States 25/04/2016

Hotel I knew from before, undergoing quite a lot of renovation so there is construction equipment, sheets of heavy plastic etc. The hotel and rooms were perfectly clean, staff was friendly, on top of all their work. Very well run.

"Minnesota Youth Trip"

Fleta S, Mescalero 20/04/2016

Our stay was AWESOME. We really enjoyed ourselves. We loved the Pool and Hot Tub. There was a great scene of the Cathedral and It was close to our meeting place. The Beds were very comfortable and the rooms were very clean. The Staff were Nice and Helpful. We enjoyed the Breakfast and Internet. Should we return, we would stay here again.

"Changes are coming"

roomchecker, Minnesota 18/04/2016

We have stayed at this hotel before. The rates are comparable of other hotels in the area. Our primary reason for staying at this location is the convenience to the XCEL Energy Center. We take the shuttle to XCEL, and then walk back to the hotel when the concert is over. The walk is only about 8 blocks, and gives us a chance to get some fresh air. The hotel also offers free shuttle service to other sites in the area. The hotel was somewhat dated, but they are in the process of doing some major remodeling inside and out. I look forward to see the future changes. We have always experienced clean rooms, friendly staff, and always a good experience at check-in, and checking out. The front desk has always been a help with questions, and information about the area. They do have a pool, but we never have the time to use it. We never visited the restaurant, so it was not a problem that it is closed during the remodeling. We usually order pizza and eat in the room. Starting in January, they now offer a complementary hot breakfast, which is something they never offered before. The breakfast consisted of the usual cereal, fruit, etc., as well as hot scrambled eggs, sausage, and pancakes. Will stay here again when in the area.

"Hotel Stay"

Patty E, Fulton, United States 18/04/2016

Hotel was under construction but that didn't interfere in regards to any noises heard while in room. The staff were excellent in regards to answering questions, checking us in and so forth. The pool facilities were great and we would stay again.

Nick C, Grand Forks, United States 18/04/2016

This Hotel is under a face-lift/remodel. AC in the building was less than impressive and this was mid April. I am sure the construction played a part but wait until the job is done before staying here when it really heats up.

"Wouldn't come back; call beforehand"

Arnold B, Alexandria, United States 05/04/2016

Under remodel and there is no restaurant or bar. This information is not advertised, so it is misleading. If you're paying more than $49/night, pick a different place. Or better, sleep in the car......

"Somewhat disappointed"

Michael D, Elk River, United States 04/04/2016

Hotel rooms were clean Outside was a mess with construction ease of entry was not good. No Dining or Bar on site as indicated on Web Site. The staff was very helpful the shuttle service to downtown was very good, Overall not a bad place to stay would be better when construction is done

"Renovations badly needed!"

lynjolo, Fort Frances, Canada 18/03/2016

Hotel leaves much to be desired, other than a great location for the purpose of my trip. Felt dirty, rooms badly needed updating, long dingy hallways. All this for a high price. Breakfast was adequate other than all the milk was spoiled. Hopefully, things change soon for this hotel.

CapitolRidgeHotel, Front Office Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
Dear lynjolo, We apologize that our hotel did not meet your expectations during your recent stay. We are in the process of completely renovating the entire property inside and out. We hope you will come back and give us another try once we have completed our renovation.

"Best Western Plus"

Steve G, virginia, United States 16/03/2016

Hotel is undergoing some renovations to the lounge and dining area so it is difficult to give a complete review. When conducting business at the Capitol, it is a great location. Competitively priced, great breakfast and decent but small work out facility.

CapitolRidgeHotel, Front Office Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
Dear Steve G, Thank you so much for taking the time to post a review. We appreciate your response and are happy to hear that our location was convenient for you and that you were able to take advantage of our free breakfast. We hope to see you the next time your travels bring you back our way.

"Hockey Fun"

Margaret R, Ontonagon, United States 08/03/2016

We had a wonderful time at the Best Western, especially with the great shuttle service to and from the XCel Hockey Arena. This is a great asset for those who don't want the hassle of driving in traffic and paying for parking! Go Hawks!

CapitolRidgeHotel, Front Office Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
Dear Margaret R, Thank you for taking the time to post a review, and for staying with us. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay and were able to take advantage of our complimentary shuttle service. We can't wait to welcome you back the next time you are in our area.

"hotel stay"

Sheri V, bemidji, United States 29/02/2016

good visit overall. however, I feel that they maybe upped the price of the room considering the events that were taking place in the area. customer service was pretty good, made the stay enjoyable. it was nice having shuttle service available. I will be staying here again next year.

CapitolRidgeHotel, Front Office Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
Dear Sheri V, Thank you for taking the time to post a review. We are glad to hear you had a good stay and were able to take advantage of our shuttle service. We look forward to welcoming you back to our newly renovated hotel next year.

"Disgusting hotel"

713marnie, Duluth, Minnesota 25/02/2016

I agree with Melody. This place is disgusting, starting with the filthy grounds and parking area. Every kind of waste possible is present here. I too, was not told when reserving that it is under construction and that the restaurant is closed. The hotel was scarcely booked but I was assigned to a room overlooking the Sears parking lot and the renovation constructions zone. I awoke to men talking and moving up and down on a scaffolding right in front of my window. The room smelled strongly of deodorizer, was noisy, the shower faucet was broken, water barely hot and the breakfast was gross. The clerk offered an "I'm sorry" but nothing to address my specific complaints or compensate me. I then answered the online survey (along with my negative comments) sent to me by Best Western, and received the usual form letter that it would help them to improve the future guest experience, blah, blah, blah. Again, I was offered no specific apologies or any compensation. The room rate was high considering the condition of this place. I am surprised that the Best Western franchise would allow this property to operate this way.

CapitolRidgeHotel, Front Office Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
Dear 713marnie, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. I apologize that we fell short in so many areas. This is certainly not the level of service and cleanliness we strive to achieve. As a training tool, I will share your comments with the staff. Please contact the hotel directly if your would like to discuss this matter further. We hope that you will give us another opportunity meet or exceed you expectations the next time your in our area.

"A good value"

Doel N, Pocahontas, United States 19/02/2016

Despite the remodeling the hotel was very clean, staff very attentive to our needs. Hotel shuttle to AC/DC concert a perk we enjoyed. Front desk very professional checking in and out. We plan to stay there on our next trip to the Twin Cities

CapitolRidgeHotel, Front Office Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
Dear Doel N, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We appreciate you staying with us. We are glad to hear that you were pleased with your stay and that our location and shuttle service was convenient for your needs. We are looking forward to your next visit.

"horrible hotel during renovation"

Melody Y, St. Paul 18/02/2016

this was the most disgusting hotel ever. Maybe it'll be nice after renovations but as of right now it should of closed its doors. Plus when I booked I wasn't made aware of this "renovation" no restaurant, bar, dingy, dirty, smelling rooms, elevators. No heat, no hot water, dirty windows (if I had a view, I wouldn't of been able to see it) Was promised $159 refund, didn't get it......

CapitolRidgeHotel, Front Office Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
Dear Melody Y, We are so sorry to hear about the challenges you reported during your last stay. Thank you for providing feedback. This is not the level of service we strive to achieve. Please accept our apology. After investigating, it looks as if a refund was made on your account. If you did not see the refund, or have any additional concerns, please contact the hotel directly. We will do what ever we can to make it right.

"Nothing special, served its purpose."

astroprof, Madison, Wisconsin 17/02/2016

Imagine a hotel in a shopping mall next to a Sears and you are seeing this hotel. The quality of the hotel is average, like thousands of others. Except this one is under renovation, which based on other reports seems to be rather long-term. The construction is not a problem, just another brick in a boring wall. This hotel has no particular attraction, unless for some reason this location is where you want to be. The price was modest, but certainly not low. Better to stay 15 minutes either direction on the freeway and pay less.

CapitolRidgeHotel, Front Office Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Capitol Ridge, responded to this review
Dear astroprof, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We appreciate your patience during our renovation. We hope that you will give us another opportunity to exceed your expectations the next time you are traveling our way.

"I was walked here from the Doubletree"

User 16/02/2016

They were full so they took me to this hotel. Luckily I only had to stay one night. I felt a little cramped with the narrow hallways and short ceilings. My room average size and I like the California King Size bed with plenty of room to stretch out. Both sides of the bed weren't equipped with electrical outlets which is inconvenient. I had to pull out my handy travel extension cord unplug the alarm clock. The bathroom had a shower with a tub, but it feels cramped. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless it was your last resort

"Convenient location, clean rooms, attentive staff"

BLeege, Wisconsin 15/02/2016

This was our 2nd stay at the Best Western Plus Capital Ridge. Last year we brought our pet lab and that was a nice convenience offered at this hotel for a reasonable cleaning up charge. This year, no pet, but another nice stay. We were not told that the hotel was under renovation when we booked. Not a huge deal, but no on-site restaurant, complimentary breakfast moved to some conference rooms, and just a little disorganization and construction mess to deal with. Staff have always been helpful and friendly. Added bonus of a shuttle to and from area attractions within a 3 mile radius. Rooms were clean. Rooms do not have the best noise insulation as we were awoken throughout the night from hall noise and even shower taken by neighboring guests. Overall, a good experience.

"Work trip"

Melissa B, St. Paul, United States 12/02/2016

The hotel is under renovation, so I hope to stay again when they are done to see the improvements. If you are from a rural (quited town) area, bring a fan. I94 is right next to the hotel, so the road noise is audible.

"Good experience"

adventurer478, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 02/01/2016

Close to the capitol. Have held several business events there. The rooms are nice. On site restaurant is good. Staff are friendly and helpful. Location doesn't have a lot of good places to eat nearby but i had a good experience.

"Staying for surgery"

474peggy, Mrrifield, minnesota 26/12/2015

I had surgery on the 18th and my husband was their staying as we live about 3 hours north. The shuttle drivers were so awesomely great and helpful for my husband as he is totally lost with out me. The front desk staff was so polite, helpful and understanding of our situation. We ended up staying another night that I did not book, but hey were able to help us out. Please thank everyone for their kindness and help. Peggy Wickham

"Don't Stay During Renovation"

Patrick S, Sioux Falls, United States 24/12/2015

The hotel is being renovated. They should close until services are at a minimal level. Staying in a construction zone is not fun. The room was out dated and needs improvement. The property was close to our business needs.

"Nice quiet place to stay"

Robin F, Grove City, United States 11/12/2015

Clean, quiet and very comfortable. Even though Interstate 94 was just out side the hotel you didn't experience any road noise. The hotel was very clean and the staff were friendly. I would stay again as this hotel is close to a lot of the downtown attractions.

"Good news/Bad news"

Lynn A, United States 07/12/2015

GOOD news- our room was wonderful! Very nice, clean, great bed, sofa, quiet, hot water, it exceeded our needs!! BAD news- we chose this hotel because of its in-house bar/restaurant, but upon arrival discovered it was CLOSED due to construction. This was an awful disappointment for us, especially since there was nothing else even around within walking distance to go to instead. It would have been nice to know this in advance....GOOD news- there was a complimentary Continental Breakfast. BAD news- there wasn't much to it.

"Minnesota Wild Weekend"

Reggie L, Biwabik, United States 07/12/2015

This is the third year in a row my son and I have come down to watch a Minnesota Wild hockey game. This is our first time at the Best Western Plus Capitol Ridge. Our stay was very good and would come back again. The staff was very pleasant and professional and made our stay more enjoyable.

"Good night"

Joe G, superior, United States 07/12/2015

It was a nice place to stay, but it would have been nice to know that it was under construction. The shuttle drivers were great guys and were willing to drive us anywhere and pick us up. The one driver was actually wearing a Santa hat and telling jokes the whole time. Pretty cool guy.

"Great service and super comfy bed!"

Lindsay C, Ilfracombe, United Kingdom 30/11/2015

The staff at the hotel were friendly and professional, rooms clean and access to tram and St Paul easy, as well as the shuttle bus service which we found useful too. The first night in the restraurant was good but we used it a second time and I think they were short on staff, as the same guy served and cooked and the food was cold! Other than that, a great experience.

"Very convenient"

HollyJean21, Owatonna 24/11/2015

Came for a Wild game on a Saturday night. Check-in was quick and easy, very friendly staff. They have a shuttle driver which will take you to and from the game which was awesome. Room was very clean and very quiet. Yes, a few things out of date in the room (shower curtain and room curtain) but they're going thru a renovation, I didn't let it bother me nor affect my review. I work at a hotel that went thru a reno 2 years ago, yes, it's a pain in the butt... But they gotta fix it up sometime, RIGHT?! I'd definitely stay here again if I'm ever in the area. I hope to come back and see the place after the renovations are complete! I'm sure it will be fabulous. Thanks to all staff!!

"reasonable. clean and friendly"

Julie O, Ringle, United States 18/11/2015

staff is always friendly and helpful. hotel offers a special rate for hospital appointments/stays and a free shuttle to the hospital. made it so much easier on the family. pool is clean and bigger than most. restaurant is the only thing I would not recommend.

"Don't book until hotel is remodeled"

Jerry Z, Pompano Beach, United States 18/11/2015

Entrance being remodeled. The lobby was unprofessional and seldom had a person at the desk. (They were behind the area). Staff required additional training. Rooms were VERY outdated. I've stayed there before and was told there would be improvements.

"Great hotel in a convenient location"

SgtLargent925, Fargo 14/11/2015

My best friend and I stayed during WFTDA roller derby championships. The staff were outstanding and the shuttle drivers got us to and from the Roy in great time. They even ran later into the evending to make sure we ladies all made it back safely. We will book there again on our next visit.

"Under construction but still worth a look"

whalerdiverWisconsin, Wisconsin 13/11/2015

Stayed 1 night recently while in town with 2 kids. Room was a bit worn but clean and quiet. Every staff member we interacted with was cheerful, welcoming and helpful. Truly nice people doing a very good job. Main entrance is completely dug up and closed so you have to enter from either end of the building. Hotel offered a discounted rate since we were going to Gillette Children's Specialty Clinic. We called the hotel directly to book it. We will use them again for our next Gillette overnight.

"8:26 p..m."

Mary W, Grand Blanc, United States 11/11/2015

Construction all around the hotel itself so difficult (at night) to figure out how to get in. Many things not working properly: toilet, room was very cold, couldn't get the drapes to close completely, bedside lamp plugs kept popping out of the add-on wall socket. Pets allowed in every room --we have allergies, need smoke-free AND pet-free, got locked out of our room one night because our reservations got messed up The water was off in the whole hotel for five and one-half hours the morning after our arrival.

"Great place to stay"

Keith T, Little Falls,MN., United States 10/11/2015

Great staff, very clean, shuttle service were all great. Undergoing a remodel at this time was a bit confusing when we arrived, but not a major drawback. Would definitely stay again, proximity to xcel energy center and light rail was a big plus, especially with the shuttle to xcel.

"Terrible experience"

gmw615, Crown Point, Indiana 05/11/2015

Hotel was under construction. Crane was right outside our window. Very loud for 2 days. Room was not clean upon arrival. Due to construction.....water main broke and flooded our room while we were out. Maintenance came in and took all of the wet items and just threw them into the tub. Wet shoes, clothes, etc. We were never made aware of the problem until we called the front desk. Water was shut off for half a day. It was just problem after problem. Other guests were having the same issues. Hotel might be fine after construction but that will not be for a year. They did give us a break on the rate per nights that we stayed but for the problems we experience......really wasn't worth what we paid.

"Wild Times"

User 03/11/2015

Great place to stay for Wild Games. Convenient shuttle service to and from the game. Per special request, dropped us off at an area restaurant for pre game cocktails and meal. Friendly driver, front desk and cleaning staff. Restaurant and bar conveniently located in lobby. My only wish would be if food was available later in the evening. We attended the Wild game and the restaurant was closed when we got back.

"weekend wedding"

Alissa B, appleton, United States 29/10/2015

hotel and ammenities were great, even though going through some construction it was very clean and everything was still available. Shuttle/cab service was our only disappointment. Restaurant was clean, the food and service were great. We all would agree that the beds were some of the most comfortable we have ever slept on.

"Very nice place to stay."

Julie D, Coon Rapids, United States 22/10/2015

Hotel was very clean, friendly staff, room was very clean and comfortable. Hotel located within walking distance of the History Center, Excel Energy Center, Science Museum and many other places in downtown St Paul. Appreciated the shuttle service from Excel Center back to the hotel after the Women of Faith Conference at night.

"nothing works"

User 22/10/2015

nothing works , heat in room pool area ...hot tub cold sauna old and needs updating. terrible pillows, uncaring bored looking employees. understaffed dark and needs updating. the restaurant service is very very tacky!

"No breakfast!"

Jean P, Spooner 18/10/2015

The hotel was very clean and in a very good location for our activity. It did not, however, offer breakfast included. For the price, we were very surprised! The expensive buffet breakfast in the adjoining restaurant was not worth the price!

"Great Value"

Kent M, Portland, United States 14/10/2015

We enjoyed our stay at the Best Western. The pool and hot tub, the shuttle driver were the best parts of the experience, but the overall value was great! They have fast Internet, nice people, comfy beds... A+

"Good location and great service"

Martina L, Essex, VT, United States 12/10/2015

Location and accommodations were perfect for our purposes: College visits and Minnesota Wild Game. The staff was extremely helpful. The shuttle to the game was great as well. The rooms and beds were clean and comfortable. i would have liked to have a desk in the room, but I had declared the trip as "Leisure".

"Great location... Plus a free shuttle"

rgillMinnesota, Two Harbors, Minnesota 11/10/2015

Clean rooms, decent rates, and a free shuttle to xcel. Where else would you stay for an event? 10 minute walk to science museum, children's museum, and a bunch of great restaurants. Will be back. Restaurant and bar in hotel close a bit early during events. Only disappointment.

"Would not stay here again."

Marie B, Kasson, United States 07/10/2015

I would not stay here again. It was a great location, but the cleaniness of our room made it disgusting to stay here. The bathroom was full of black hair in the tub, sink and on the floor. I am not sure if the bathroom was cleaned other than to put out clean towels. THis was the only Best Western Plus that did not offer a free breakfast, at the price we paid for this hotel it was not worth it. We attended a concert and the location was great for that. THe hotel did provide a free shuttle that we did not have to use.

"Angry Staff"

Dane C, Saint Paul, United States 05/10/2015

Don't go to the bar/restaurant. The manager/owner of the bar is incompetent and let's his staff do whatever they want. I was verbally assaulted and had a drink thrown if my face. I didn't receive an apology, but rather watched his employee walk right up to the beer tap and proceed to pour herself another drink without paying or being reprimanded whatsoever. Quite frankly is is a dangerous place to have a drink.

"Nice place to stay"

Alice D, United States 05/10/2015

The room was clean, bed was very comfortable and the shuttle was a nice added plus to have. I would recommend this hotel and the location is easy to find. The only thing that happened was the waitress forgot my order but they got took care of it right away. Love the whirlpool. Very quiet and nice. Will stay there again for work if needed.

"Please with only one complaint"

Shanda H, Barron, United States 05/10/2015

I was very pleased with my stay. Staff were VERY nice. Answered every question and very polite. Bed was very comfortable, lots of parking, pool and hot tub were nice, and food was pretty good at the restaurant. My only complaint was cleaning. For the most part our room was very nice, but I have three children under 6 years and I found stuff on the floor that I didn't want them in.

"Dirty pool, breakfast is a joke, staff uninterested"

Jean-Claude L, Montreal, Canada 27/09/2015

The pool, spa tub and the surrounding were dirty, floor green with moles. The breakfast which is not free is downright sad, literally we were serve a plate with 2 eggs and cold toasts, nothing else. no fruits on the side, no nothing... The staff is uninterested, they give you the feeling should have registered somewhere else and let them do whatever they were doing.
