"Great location and space but some challenges "
Cathy_of_Alex, 01 Avril 2024

The location is perfect if you are visiting the State Fair or Como Zoo/Como Park and the space in the renovated train building is wonderful. This is a heavily family use hotel and pets are welcome as well so prepare yourself that the rooms look like they take a bit of a beating. Housekeeping does the best they can but no amount of dusting and vacuuming is going to hide curtains partially off or torn, carpet patches and stains, scratches on the furniture etc. The wi fi was fast and it worked and I was here to worship near by for Holy Week and Easter and it was great for my purposes. But, I would have to think hard about staying here again as it is very noisy. The pool area, bar area and breakfast bar, meeting rooms and front desk are in the bottom of an open atrium and there is constant noise and I was on the 2nd floor. I had to wear ear plugs in order to sleep. The shower had NO water pressure. Even though this is a pet friendly hotel and I saw dogs, I only heard one bark once. If I had mobility issues, I would definitely not stay here. The lobby floor is an uneven concrete pour over what used to be a rail bed and the sidewalk outside is buckling or heaving, especially if you end up having to walk to or from the overflow parking. If you get in after 6, pretty much count on having to park in overflow as the designated lot does not have a lot of spaces. Also, it is narrow, so any pickups or larger vehicles, you are going to want to park in overflow anyway, even with a car I recommend pulling in your side mirrors if you park in the small lot.

"Nice hotel"
jeffsun2024, 28 Février 2024

It was very clean and roomy. Looks old outside but very new inside. The breakfast was good and the staff was nice. Did not experience the parking issue as others did likely because of the slow season.

"Front Desk Agent Kyheem & Breakfast/Bar Lady"
MarilynJ8013, 21 Février 2024

Kyheem & breakfast/bar lady were amazing, breakfast options were nice, coffee machine out of order was disappointing! Low rating only because it's not a lot attraction to the hotel, and parking is not the best, didn't know where the front door was located. Willing to come back again mainly because of the great service of the front desk guy Kyheem, top notch professional, and outgoing fun conversation with that young ma!

"Unique hotel in an old Train repair shop"
RogueTrippers, 15 Février 2024

Date of stay: Nov 15 & 16, 2023 During this Roguetrip, we stayed at several Best Western Plus hotels, which is a chain we haven't stayed at much before. It wasn't intentional to stay at so many BWP hotels, its just how it worked out - and we have loved it - it is definitely a chain we are so impressed with, that we will definitely FOCUS to try and stay at BWP hotels more often in the future. THIS hotel was hands down the most unique and interesting hotel we have stayed at. This Best Western Plus is located inside an old train repair shop. Rooms ring around the pool with courtyard/pool-facing rooms and an outer ring of rooms. Our room faced the pool. The rooms were very comfortable, clean, and spacious. The beds were soft but supportive, pillows were plentiful, but I found them too thin. My husband did not find this problem. Breakfast was great, with all kinds of options. Eggs/omelettes, turkey sausage etc., yogurt, granola, oatmeal; seating is in the centre courtyard, which was lovely. Parking... There isn't enough parking for a whole house; we had to park in their overflow lot, which is a bit of a walk with suitcases. The building is gorgeous. The old train facility gives this chain hotel a very boutique hotel vibe. The front desk staff were amiable and helpful. There is a small fitness centre with a few pieces of equipment. It would be very 'cozy' if two people were to use it at the same time. While the hotel isnt within walking distance to any attractions, we did find it was a convenient location for our roguetrip purposes.

"Hot room, no water pressure, overall disappointing"
stephaniewilkins19, 12 Janvier 2024

Thermostat won't allow you to cool your room to less than 68 degrees, water pressure is horrible in the shower and sink, no restaurants near hotel, overcharged for stay requiring call to customer service

"Rude and not well maintained"
handerson89, 04 Janvier 2024

Our family has stayed at the hotel when we are in town for at least 12 years. This last experience has fallen so far below even acceptable standards, that I can't imagine we'd return. Curtains hanging by only one hook. Cobwebs and dead bugs in the window sills

"St. Paul Stay Best Western"
Mary Beth R, 28 Décembre 2023

Convenient to Como Park Zoo area and midway between Twin Cities and minutes from the new soccer stadium.. Excellent staff, clean rooms, breakfast, lounge area and pool and spa availible. Good value for the cost.

"Excellent and historic place to stay"
PeterKN2023, 08 Décembre 2023

When we saw that the Bandana Square location had an opening, we immediately booked it. I love how they have repurposed this historical building and leaned into the railroad theme inside and out. The rooms were posh without being expensive. As a rewards member, I used my points to make the stay free, but I would have paid the $120 for the room regardless. It is close to awesome fun and restaurants in the Grand Ave and Lexington neighborhoods... plus easy access to main arteries like Snelling Ave and HWY 36. over all a real fantastic stay and experience.

"Enjoyable Stay"
DonnaA2001, 21 Novembre 2023

The hotel was conveniently located for us to attend a concert at the Xcel Center in St. Paul. We had an easy check in with Jericho, he offered information on the amenities. We were intrigued with the train tracks in the lobby and were informed the building was an old train warehouse. Our room was large, comfortable, and very clean. The bed was great with plenty of pillows. The shower had plenty of pressure and hot water. The arched windows were a special treat, the blackout curtains were effective. Our TV worked just fine, the little bit we watched before breakfast. The breakfast area was quite large, the buffet area had a large variety from eggs and sausage, pancakes, waffles, yogurt and toppings, juices, fruit, cold cereal. The attendant was paying attention, keeping the food items replenished. We didn't use the pool but walked by it. Appeared well kept. Overall we enjoyed our stay, would return again when we're in St. Paul.

"Pick somewhere else!"
ShelbyQ95, 25 Septembre 2023

The hotel rooms were nice & clean, but the bathroom was terrible. The shower had half glass & got water all over the floor & very tight in there with the toilet. The parking was a nightmare, no marked lots, no shuttle service, the pool was very cold, hot tub did not work, the sauna was very dark with only one light, and the breakfast did not have many options and was done very early at 9:30am. The bar was nice but very poorly stocked, how can you have blue moon on tap with no oranges??? And how can you be a bar with no cans/bottles of beer cold? Overall the hotel was cool and neat looking with the old tracks running through it. But I will never stay here again.

"HORRIBLE - STAY AWAY"
E6324QMrickm, 06 Septembre 2023

We checked in and hurried off to the MN State Fair. When we got back we noticed the sheets on our bed ruffled, pulled the sheets back and there were stains from the previous guest. Checked the bathroom and no towels, tried to call the front desk and the phone didn't work in the room. This is where it got worse, the evening/nighttime staff were horrible. No training at all about hospitality. We were told the hotel was full and there was nobody to clean our room. So they wanted us to stay in a dirty room? We were offered we could wait till the next morning and then our room would be cleaned? I'm not sure how this is a solution. Was told they can't access housekeeping? They couldn't give us a single towel. This first started at 11:30PM, we were told check back at 1AM since some guests didn't show up yet. First night after a long drive and we're sitting in our dirty room waiting for the front desk. Remember our phone didn't work so they were going to come knock and let us know. It's now 1:15 and nobody shows up, went down to the desk and was told we now have to wait till 2AM. This whole time without an ounce of caring, each time the front desk person was annoyed they had to get off their phone to talk to us. Dirty place with staff that doesn't care, skip this place in case you actually need something they won't lift a finger.

"Unique Building"
Chris P, 04 Septembre 2023

We loved the fact that the hotel is in an old locomotive engine repair shop. You can see remnants of the tracks and a high beam ceiling with a skylight. Some rooms face the interior skylighted space. It is in a relatively isolated area so it is nice they had a bar where you can get a drink and slice of pizza. We chose it for the proximity to the state fair and availability of a shuttle to the fair. The breakfast is reliable in Best Western style and with fresh donuts. The staff is very helpful with a list of nearby restaurants.

"Great Visit"
Brian E, 29 Août 2023

Great hotel close to the MN State Fair - the site offered on-site transportation to and from the Fair, but Uber & Lyft were another option as well. The facility was a great site visually. The breakfast was a great option for us as we were traveling early the next morning.

"Keith Urban Concert"
joneb160, 28 Août 2023

All was very good. Very helpful information regarding shuttle service to and from the Fair. King room is very spacious. Room and bathroom very clean. Bed and pillows were comfortable. I will stay here again.

"VERY poor maintenance."
skalmar2023, 06 Août 2023

Staff was good. Pool heater not working, broken items in my room, missing equipement pieces in the "fitness center"gave the front desk a list, neither that or pool issues addressed during my multi day stay.

"Big rooms/ great staff"
She11eAtl, 27 Juin 2023

The rooms were big and clean. The staff was great. Anything we requested for was given right away. The hotel is beautiful and historical. The area is well lit and community area. East to get too, a lot of different places in walking distance.

"Front desk not only rude but they will also try to break into your room at 8 AM and act like it is Normal"
Ryan M, 25 Juin 2023

I would never stay at this hotel again. It was a horrible experience. The staff were very incompentent and/or rude. We made a reservation at this hotel 8 months in advance for two rooms together. When we arrived they acknowleged our request but then gave us two rooms on different floors at different parts of the hotel. When we arrived in the city we called to see if our rooms were available and were told very rudely that "nobdy can check in early" at this hotel. When we did arrive at the hotel people were checking in before the posted time. It took over a half hour to check in as the workers struggled to make keys, etc. A couple next to us who had patiently waited for their room for over a half hour were given a room that had not been cleaned and then were told that they would have to wait until someone could get there to clean it. We requested an extra cot for one of our rooms and were told it would be delivered at 5 PM. When we returned to our rooms after being out for the evening it was not there of course. We just made the best of it since it was so late at that point. The next morning my daughters and their friends who were in one of our rooms were frightened and awakened by the front desk staff trying to enter their room at 8 AM! Luckily the dead bolt would not let them fully enter. They thought someone was trying to break into their room. My wife called the front desk to see what the deal was and was told by the manager that they wanted to "check on the tv." We did not even use the TV and did not request any maintenance. The front desk did not apologize whatsoever and were so rude about it. Who does that? In addition there was a light outside to illuminate the building that was brighter than the center of the Sun and it made our room about as bright as noon at all times. Bottom line is that the staff here was super rude or incompetent. I would never stay here again.

"It's ok"
shanedixon23, 18 Juin 2023

The price is decent but the rooms are not well designed . The beds are located too close to the door. The inner shower room with toilet and shower is extremely small. Shower got water all over said room due to design of shower head. Thermostat was hard to locate in room. There were no instructions for tv and some customers may have difficulties realizing you have to go through tv inputs to get it to cable. There were also many stains on room curtains and on our inner hotel room door. For the price it was ok. Not sure about the building/location though.

"Enjoyed this hotel"
gothic1, 12 Juin 2023

This is a very cool hotel. Loved the old train station theme - it was an old train repair shop. Check in went very smooth and enjoyed talking to the person at the front desk. Very knowledgeable. The rooms were updated and the bed was so comfortable. We ate breakfast the following morning and it was very good. The lady that was taking care of the breakfast room was so sweet and she made sure everything was always well stocked. Liked the fact that there was a bar at the hotel. The bartender even made a pizza for us while we had some cocktails. We will definitely stay at this hotel again.

"Great Stay! Will stay again"
Billy0310, 11 Juin 2023

I was impressed with this location. The rooms are clean, great amenities, internet worked well. The staff was helpful when needed and breakfast was great. I travel quite a bit and will choose this location for my future travels. I Highly recommend.

"I liked it!"
troublemaker84, 25 Janvier 2023

Very comfortable and clean, affordable, pleasant staff and restful, low key surroundings. Met my expectations and needs very well! If I have similar needs in the future, I would definitely come back to Best Western Plus Como Park Hotel.

"Impressive Transformation from Railroad Station to Hotel"
GeorgeRoemer, 14 Janvier 2023

We chose this hotel because of its location to planned events nearby. Did not know it was a repurposed railroad station. Original sets of train tracks set in floor but smoothed over to allow for easy walking and suitcase rollers. What looked like a onetime caverness building has been transformed into a hotel. Reminders of the original structure were in the public areas, hallways and rooms. Our king room included a comfortable bed, closet space, stuffed chair, desk and well-appointed bathroom. Part of an original wooden beam in one corner of room. Hallways on second floor are uneven with ramps and stairs to compensate. Room looked into pool area. Benefitted from several discounts that reduced price of room. Taxes and "Service fees" brought room price back up. Breakfast included, but we did not take advantage of it. Parking in structure across street that had plenty of space, but steep ramp down into spacious area and equally steep ramp for exit. We had to walk up icy ramp and across poorly shoveled walk to get into hotel door. Fortunately, we did not have suitcases, only back packs.

"I WANTED TO LOVE THIS BW"
Bernessa R, 16 Novembre 2022

Wasn't acknowledged as an elite member @ check in. Checkout was even worse. Charged my CC as I told them at check in I was payingw/another form of payment @checkout. Chiquita, who was in charge of breakfast was magnificent!!!!

"Quiet room until"
449kh, 06 Novembre 2022

Fun location. Lovely room and quiet stay until 5 AM. Room 207 adjoins a staff cleaning/supply room. Through the adjoining door to our room, we were awakened by several staff members laughing and catching up with their lives. When my husband asked them to be quiet they shouted back at him. We called the front desk and it was quiet until 8 AM when it began again. We decided to check out and when we returned our keys to the front desk and asked them about the incident, we were told that the disturbance we had heard came from another guest on the complete opposite side of the room and that there was no staff/cleaning room adjoining ours. We have been long time members and are extremely disappointed in having spent 30,000 points for this stay. In particular, we are disappointed at being told that what we experienced did not happen. At the least, in the future we would hope that will staff be notified when there are guests in room 207 and behave quietly respectfully.

"Great hotel for families w/Dogs"
918tracya, 26 Septembre 2022

This has a pool-hot tub-sauna & fitness center. Plus a great place for dogs. Recently remodeled/updated. Comfortable beds too. Bar area is a nice feature. Centrally located hotel for Twin Cities. Love the old train station ambiance.

"Will Stay Here Again"
sidepork99, 14 Septembre 2022

Charming hotel with friendly staff and clean rooms. Loved the historic building and old train tracks running through the hotel. We have spent more on other rooms recently and this was a more pleasurable experience.

"Another Great Stay"
Road19241739584, 13 Septembre 2022

Another hotel with incredible staff who are warm and engaging. Always a joy to interact and connect. The room was perfect, and we had a grand time and will stay again. Loved the location and it fit our needs perfectly for the night.

"Dissapointing"
Romar556, 31 Août 2022

Overall condition BW is ok, it is an older motel but still is in good shape. At time the reservation was made they stated that they would provide shuttle service to the MN State Fair. They lied, there was no service and did not contact me that there wold not be service. It was a total disaster, some guest were stuck there with the only way to get to the Fair was taxi or Uber.

"very special theme . parking is a nightmare for larger vehicles"
peterpanjaffray, 29 Août 2022

loved the decor tho our room lacked a few things and lamps and etc didnt work well. Most of all if u value sleep and quiet make sure you dont get any room anywhere around the pool. It echos most every where when people are in the pool u might as well be in the pool as well. . They did however move us to another room that was better but the group at the time was extremely loud and it was heard in that room as well. Prking is diffcult of taller vehicles that are taller and cannot fit in the under ground parking area. very few oustside choices that people didnt already have. breakfast was very limited No guest laundry in a BW plus i was surprised. they have a yougurt machine that poured out tastless yougurt little cold pancakes meat and breads and a waffle maker. not enough food or variety dissappointed

"19th Century building needs more 21st century light and outlets"
SSDSeattle, 08 Août 2022

I really liked staying in an old roundhouse. A lot of creativity went into this hotel. But our room was inadequate. There was very little light ( I couldn't read in the chair or in bed) and too few outlets for a 21st Century hotel. I am empathetic with the difficulty of retrofitting the electrical system. But guests should be prepared. If you come for the pool, you would be happier than we were.

"Wasn't worth what I paid"
griselc419, 07 Août 2022

Looked at photos and thought it was a good place for me and my family to stay, but turns out the ones on Google were wrong. Either way the money I paid for it was not worth it. The thermometer seemed like it didn't work because it was still very cold after putting it at 75. We did enjoy the pool. The receptionist when we checked in and out were friendly. The breakfast was poor. They closed early because they said they ran out, but she seems to be cleaning everything after she turned the waffle maker off. The drinks were watered down. There were barely any options. We went to eat at 9:10 and they closed at 9:30 for breakfast. In many other hotels they always had everything until the time and most times even after they said they closed. It was a poor way to wake up to.

"Fun train theme, but needs a good cleaning and a facelift"
318joanmaried, 27 Juillet 2022

I've stayed here at least 6 times over the past 15 years. It is popular with families; the pool is a feature in the converted train repair station. It's a fun spot and great location for me (near family). However, it felt a bit grubby this time. Common areas are maintained fairly well; check out the photos for an interesting history. Rooms have been neglected, in my opinion. They are very dated and smell musty. Our room was on the first floor and we used chip clips to keep curtains closed for privacy. Our room didn't have an easy chair, but did have an ottoman (weird). We did not have enough outlets, either.

"Neat hotel in quiet area"
mstaylor38, 04 Juillet 2022

This is a unique hotel, built in an old train repair building I think. The area is industrial but it's a short drive to shopping and restaurants. It has all the amenities you expect, free breakfast, pool, hot tub and sauna, fitness room.

"Average stay"
Rondiaz23, 25 Juin 2022

The hotel was nice. The room AC was a bit loud and the refrigerator shelves were broken. Pool was cold and could have been cleaner. Staff was friendly and helpful. Minor problems with the room but the stay was decent.

"Hotel in former train depot"
R867GQlisas, 22 Juin 2022

Free parking, convenient. Central location. Close to downtown, local zoo. Pool-area to ourselves. Updated rooms with most amenities fried and microwave —- no hairdryer. Couple glitches with breakfast. One morning the staff person forgot to put out coffee. Another morning the kitchen area flooded so none available. Mostly quiet, spacious room. Had noisy guest above us who paced back and forth during the evening. Odd but usually done by 10. Room was clean. Lack of daily housekeeping was due to covid; however, we didn't need the room vacuumed or beds remade daily

"Great hotel, horrible breakfast"
Brett-Mary D, 31 Mai 2022

We have stayed at this location twice now. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. It's clean and I really enjoy the common spaces. But the breakfast was lacking and inconsistent. One day the coffee and eggs were good. They could really use a potato option and more variety of pastries. But the next day the coffee was watered down, no half n half, and the eggs literally looked like sawdust. If this hotel gets it's breakfast together, it is a great place fto stay.

"Needs a good cleaning"
mnreview2022, 31 Mai 2022

The whole place needs a thorough cleaning and repairs. It could be a staffing shortage, supply chain issues, or what have you. Regardless, this hotel needs a good scrubbing. Perhaps hiring a cleaning service to tackle the more time-consuming areas such as windows, blinds, HVAC duct cleaning, furniture cleaning or disposal, and wiping down doors.

"cold sweat"
mike19502022, 17 Mai 2022

Avoid. Too many other companies/hotels are genuinely competing for your dollar. I expect rooms to be cleaned, tv to be working, breakfast to be adequate. I experienced none of that with this hotel. Some staff seemed to recognize guests are being inconvenienced while others aggressively avoided even minimal eye contact.

"Avoid this."
Laura S, 22 Avril 2022

This property does not live up to the Best Western Plus brand. Our room was dark and dated; hallway carpet old and dated; cobwebs on the hall ceiling; some walls and doors scuffed; music from the lobby or pool area woke us at 6am (our room faced the pool); patio door from our room to pool area didn't close fully; front entry to hotel lobby are narrow heavy doors that are hard to navigate with a suitcase. The online photos are misleading. Location: not near anything. This historical train site should have been made into a museum not a hotel.

"Owners need to do better"
220kimberlyn, 18 Avril 2022

Not notified of change of room, no remotes for tvs, rooms very dark, thermostat not working and room was very hot, furniture broke, no ice machine, pool doesnt open until 10, hotel overbooked. not impressed.

"Wonderful!"
veep129, 21 Mars 2022

Wow, what a great experience! Checking in was so pleasant and our room was clean, and so so quiet. Just what we needed on our “mini-moon”! Friendly staff, free parking, close to everything! Thank you so much!

"Historic Railroad Building"
SPTschida, 20 Mars 2022

The theme of the hotel, built around the historic structure of a railroad steam locomotive repair shop, is truly fascinating whether you are a railroad fanatic or not. Clean, comfortable rooms, attractive pool and sauna, an accommodating breakfast platform complete the experience, while artwork and design incorporating the century-old train yard and repair shop make for a nice escape into fantasy.

"Great experience!"
Carla L, 14 Mars 2022

I stayed in a very nice, newly renovated room with a walk-in shower. Disabled, they were extremely kind and helpful to me. Would definitely stay there again. Hotel is part of an old railroad facility, so it has a special charm. Convenient location.

"Excellent"
mathairgealach, 21 Février 2022

Was blown away by the excellent customer service and attention at Best Western Plus Como. We were treated exceptionally well during our three day stay. Any requests were fulfilled quickly and pleasantly by the staff. Won't hesitate to come back!

"Current renovation is sorely needed."
428krid, 02 Novembre 2021

This has the potential to be a very interesting stay because of the locations history and the building history. However, much work must be done during the current renovation. Free parking available but it isn't obvious where to park and the walk is greater than average.

"Check if they are open."
Stacy021020, 07 Juillet 2021

It's been a few years since we stayed here. We had reservations for September MN State Fair this year that the hotel cancelled. I appreciate the email and phone call today explaining the situation. Once remodeling is completed, staffing shortage improves, give this hotel a look. We plan to return next year. It's frustrating as a guest when reservations are cancelled but this is a great hotel that hopefully will be back better than ever.

"Has a reservation for June 2021 and they canceled it without notifying me!!!!!"
897terri, 07 Mai 2021

We are GOLD MEMBERS with this hotel chain and have stayed at this hotel several times a year for many years. Made by June reservations (as always) on April 8th. Signed in to modify it today (5/7) and they canceled it. No emails - no phone call...just under my canceled reservations. I did not cancel it! Called hotel and employess was VERY vague of the circumstances for the cancellation and would not give me an answer - jsutthat they canceled all reservations until 7-15-21. Well after reading the reviews and talking with someone in the area...we were told they care using it as a homeless shelter - GOOD FOR THEM - NO PROBLEM WITH THAT ***** but then do not take my reservation without telling me that...mcuh less canceling it with NO notification!!!! ***** Guess it was a good thing I went to male a change or would have went there in June expecting a room.

"Homeless only"
rejena2020, 13 Septembre 2020

You should not be accepting customers paying such a high price to room right along with the homeless without letting the customer know that this is what is going on. Especially when there are no amenities, not even room service to change sheets or empty trash. NO SERVICE AT ALL.

"Stay Away"
adams12020, 12 Août 2020

I paid more for the same room I booked last December and noticed how they have opened their doors up for lower income housing. Wish I would have known that before booking! Couldn't get to bed because of screaming, cursing and yelling and was woken up by the same thing. Was asked on several occasions if I could "bum a smoke" along with my daughters. Noticed they left a key card outside the hotel for anyone to access the locked door as well. Overall, not a good experience on this stay.

"DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!!!!"
340lukasv, 03 Août 2020

Do not believe the print out they give you about caring about your safety and cleaning the rooms. Booked two rooms, one of which had to be changed right away because it smelled like there was a rotting animal carcass in the vents. The other room was dirty but we were tired so we just avoided the broken door handle, broken desk chair and underwear that were left hanging behind the door in the bathroom. We found out after our kids were asleep that our bed had food in the sheets so we got new sheets, made our bed and tried to sleep. The next morning we watched a homeless person cough all over the coffee maker without a mask and found out that the hotel is doubling as a homeless shelter and our room was likely last used by a homeless person and not sanitized at all. I will be suing the crap out of this hotel if anyone in my family gets sick!

"Bandana Square Best Western"

This property went out of the way to ensure the safety of our stay during the COVID-19 period. There were few other guests in the hotel during our two night stay but the staff were always available to answer our questions and provide any items requested.

"Be cautious"
300kristineb, 10 Juillet 2020

Room was dirty, could not get extra towels, breakfast grab and go was literally throw into a paper bag with nothing to drink for 2 small children. Parking was limited, could park in a lower level of a ramp but security of vehicle was sketchy at best.

"Nice Hotel"
genevasoll, 22 Mai 2020

I loved how unique the hotel was and how large the rooms are. I would definitely visit again. The only issue that I didn't like was that I found a few pieces of hair in the bathtub and I am pretty sure it may have been a mistake, because everything else was nice. I think the hotel was nicely set up sand very very nice staff.

"Don't waste your money!"
ccpd58, 07 Mars 2020

Worst hotel I have stayed at in 3 years! Heat/thermostat did not work! Equipment in fitness area was not calibrated, I had to ask several times to get towels and machine wipes in fitness area. Could not use sauna after working out because they didn't let you in until 9:30am.

"Great Place!"
Jacob K, 28 Février 2020

This hotel is really neat! The hotel is literally built INSIDE the train depot which makes it super unique! The staff are friendly and accommodating, The rooms are spacious and clean! Pao Lynn and Rudy are Awesome!

"Very pleasant, unique hotel."
Tmeyer927, 20 Février 2020

This hotel's staff, service, and atmosphere outshines many others. It's such a pleasant place to stay at and the beds are very comfortable. The pool area is clean and the hot breakfast along with fresh fruit is fantastic.

"Business"
markeicloud, 19 Février 2020

Staff is friendly and location is great! Pretty cool how an old railroad station is converted to what this place is. Nice to park under ground in the winter also. Not to many places don't charge for parking either. They don't.

"Ok place to stay"
rlb2932, 17 Février 2020

Room was quiet, bed was comfortable but the room needs a little TLC. There was paint chipping near the heating vent and the mirror was crooked and the carpet was buckling - this wasn't a huge issue but it could cause senior or toddlers to end up tripping.

"Friendly Employees"
jabwoman858, 09 Février 2020

The employees at this hotel are friendly and helpful. When we did have a problem with our toilet seat it was taken care of in a timely manner. The breakfast here was exceptional and the young man who took care of it was amazing. The young man we had for housekeeping also an amazing friendly person. Amanda the bartender so sweet and made you feel so welcome. The hotel was clean and the beds best I have had at a hotel in a long time. We really enjoyed the experience. The only bad thing is my son in law had a bad experience at the time of his check out which made me sad as we had such a good experience.

"COMO BW is the BEST"
Daniel S, 08 Février 2020

Wow, talk about converting a train depot into a HOTEL and making it a great experience for visitors...This place is awesome. The hotel is very quiet, super quaint, and close to many places in the St Paul area.

"Cozy and Unique"
sp0rtsm0m35, 04 Février 2020

Loved the old but new feel. Breakfast was hot, good amount of choices, hottub and sauna were great for relaxing. Rooms were clean beds are comfortable. Not alot of options to plug electronics in. Had to rearrange furniture to access outlets. One thing that I struggled with is keeping the outside lights out of the room. Overall a great place to stay!

"Very nice for the price!"
Rebecca T, 03 Février 2020

Nice clean room, quiet, nice staff, better than most hotel breakfast, it's built in a railroad stop which is neat. Natural light coming in. Easy location to get around St. Paul. Would stay there again.

"Fun for large friend group!!"
beebecker2020, 21 Janvier 2020

5 families booked this hotel for a local staycation and we had a blast! The room was really warm at night & we like to sleep cold, but other than that we have no complaints! We all booked poolside rooms to ensure we were all together and we will do it again!

"Disgusting Bathroom"
rwronski, 20 Janvier 2020

Bathroom was awful. White grout had been partially filled in with gray grout making the tile shower/bathroom area floor look moldy and dirty even though it probably wasn't. Room has shower stool upon which there was an old used bar of soap stuck to the seat indicating to use the seat had not been cleaned since last guest used it. The light fixture had 1 of 4 lamps working and was falling off the wall. We had a hard time figuring out where the front door to the hotel was for check in. No plowing had been done in lot and there was 6-8" if snow piled up. Room HVAC was loud. Bed was quite comfortable and saved the day.

"High quality, great value"
896jannettel, 18 Janvier 2020

I've stayed at this hotel several times, and it is always a great experience. The rooms are large and clean. The staff is always very helpful and friendly. There is ample free parking. The bar and lounge are a great place to hang out in groups. The pool, hot tub, and exercise room aren't huge, but are sufficient. I always stay at this hotel when I'm in the Twin Cities.

"Still St Paul's Best Location and Value"
Diane E, 07 Janvier 2020

We have been staying at the Como Park location for years and continue to find it the most convenient location to any place we want to visit in the Twin Cities. Free parking within an urban area is a real plus, as well as the lovely breakfast, pet-friendly atmosphere, and well-maintained rooms and public areas. The beds are extremely comfortable. The rooms are regularly updated and refreshed. Highly recommended!

"Best Western Como Park Plus"

Great place too stay very friendly staff always very clean. They work with you to accommodate early check in. I have stayed here for years and don't stay anywhere else for years even when traveling out of state.

"Trip to Daughter's new home"
lhislope0364, 27 Novembre 2019

My father, sister, son and I stayed in room 219 facing the lobby and breakfast area. Elvis was very helpful in helping us choose our room based on our needs. The room was very clean. We had two queen beds and they were firm but comfortable. The room was larger than a regular hotel room but not a suite. There was room for a blow up twin mattress. The hotel used to be a train depot and has a lot of charm. The gal on the 11 - 8 shift was very nice and helpful. I was up at 6 am and sat in the "bar" area near the breakfast area. It was quiet and peaceful. I had two cups of tea before breakfast formally opened. They had hot scrambled eggs, sausage patties, pork sausage, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, waffles, pancakes, muffins, toast, etc. My son and sister used the pool and jacuzi the night before and said they were great. The pool was warm and the jacuzi was hot. We have two more nights so we will see how it goes.

"Great Place"
dyanadial1970, 21 Novembre 2019

Wonderful place to stay. We came from Madison to watch my nephew play football and we had a room poolside. My son had a very good time in the pool and hot tub. We had a ton of room to have the whole family come over and visit.

"More than Expected"
PeopleMakeItBetter, 17 Novembre 2019

What fun, upscale hotel! Clean and a great value. Most importantly, all the staff go out of the way to meet your needs. I made a huge request and it was treated like a routine one. I was very impressed and grateful.

"Nice rooms. Unique hotel"
hedgeapplefarm2019, 17 Novembre 2019

Both times I stayed at this hotel, my rooms were clean. The breakfast is good. However this last time my room was too warm. I didn't compalin and this was my fault. I was tired after a long drive. The story behind this hotel is pretty cool

"Fantastic hotel!"
Margo B, 12 Novembre 2019

I'm treating my pet at UMN Veterinary Medical Center weekly. This hotel is conveniently located, takes pets, and has fantastic decor! I feel safe and comfortable here, as does my pet. The staff are fantastic- - friendly and accommodating. My top choice for my trips to the Veterinary Center!

"Good experience."
Rhonda S, 08 Novembre 2019

Clean room with very nice in room and hallway carpet. Lots of choices for breakfast. Very friendly staff. Room was on the warm side but very comfortable bed. Our area was quiet. Nice size room. Will stay again.

"Some odd things but overall decent stay "
heatherbB2235XW, 03 Novembre 2019

We've stayed here twice in the last few years and while it was overall a good stay there are a few things that could make it better. The pool hours are 930 am-10 pm. Because we had kids with us we planned to use the pool before we left in the morning, I was surprised to find out the pool didn't open until 930 am on a weekend. Other guests commented on that being odd as well. They do have a nice little pool area with a small pool that goes to 5 feet deep in the center, a hot tub, small kids pool and a sauna. The exercise room is available 24/7 but we did not take advantage of that this time. The one thing I did notice with the pool is there appeared to be paint chipping off and there were chunks of paint in the pool. Overall the pool was clean but finding paint chips at the bottom was a bit of a surprise. Our group had two rooms and both rooms only had one garbage can, this is something we had noticed in our previous stay as well. I'm used to most hotels having a bathroom garbage and one in the room as well. I would think it would be easier on the staff to have two partially full garbage cans instead of one overflowing one. We had a poolside room which had a little seating area outside, I picked this room on purpose because we had small kids and wanted to be able to let the kids go to sleep and then relax on the chairs outside our room for awhile. Our room was decent but very warm and the poolside rooms (at least not ours) do not have any outside access so you could not open a window to let in any fresh air. We tried to turn the heat down but it did not seem to help. The free breakfast is typical of a hotel of this price range, eggs, sausage, waffle and pancake makers, cereal, yogurt, oatmeal and donuts/muffins. Our kids did enjoy the yogurt options because they had toppings you could add. There is a small bar in the hotel that also has a few appetizers and pizzas. The prices seemed reasonable. The parking across the street is free but for some reason the entire lot/ramp is not accessible. During our previous stay we had parked on the surface level but those spots were blocked off except for the handicapped spots. We had to park down one level. The lower levels seemed to have low ceilings for a parking ramp. One of our suv hatches was fairly close to hitting the top of the ramp when the hatch was opened. Overall bed was decent and they provided extra pillows without needing to ask which I appreciate. If you are attending an event at the xcel energy. center this is a great choice. It's not within walkisng distance bu if you plan to park at the xcel or take an Uber/lyft it's a pretty short ride. They do offer a shuttle I believe but it only ran M-F during the day. I'd stay again but I hope they make a few changes to make a decent stay a better stay.

"This is what a hotel that doesn't care anymore looks like"
Tabeus, 31 Octobre 2019

It's kind of funny that this is called a Best Western "Plus" because we couldn't figure out what the "Plus" was at first. Then we realized there were lots of pluses... we got a modest-sized room plus drapes that didn't close all the way, plus a closet door that stuck on the carpet, plus a physically broken TV remote; plus a shower insert that did not fit in the tub, plus a low residential toilet that looked like it had been through a lot, plus a breakfast buffet served on paper plates with plastic utensils... you get the idea. The lobby feels damp and smells of chlorine from the indoor pool, and the decor is rustic train station. The train station part is authentic at least - the hotel was once a train depot - but the way it's decorated makes it look like a Disney attraction rather than the real deal. The staff is pleasant at least, and the room did have a fridge, and free parking is across the street in a remarkably confounding garage. In truth, we were just visiting relatives nearby, not a special occasion or anything - so we were amused more than annoyed by the hotel's shortcomings. But this hotel has given up. We did not expect anything fancy but we did expect some level of value and for the outrageous cost we ended up paying for this experience. Sadly, there really isn't any.

"Great"
dawnlattimer, 27 Octobre 2019

I stayed for 2 nights for a conference. Hotel is cool as it is decorated like an old train depot, which the building is. It has great character. Room was clean, staff attentive. No complaints. Do know that the bar/lounge is quite small and only serves a few apps and there is no restaurant on property. There is a restaurant walking distance however. The room has a microwave, small fridge and a coffee maker which is fantastic. I saved money and brought in my own food. I was very pleased and would stay here again.

"Couldn't Stay"
JonnyDough123, 22 Octobre 2019

I had to check out of this hotel for the following reasons: - Car park was filthy and piles of garbage all over the place - Internet speed is slow - Had a musty smell in the room - Could not open curtains

"Resolve with a Smile"
lfojas, 21 Octobre 2019

Resolving my cold room issue cold have had the same process and outcome and all would have been fine with my regular high rating of BW. The attendant at this location decided to be condescending, like I was being done a favor. Just an over night stay to catch up with report deadlines and sleep. I also notice that this BW location digitally censored news media outlets... Especially FOX NEWS. It is very concering that BW would censor its public guest from partaking in public news media sources.

"dirty grossed-out won't go back"
Coastal739112, 18 Octobre 2019

Bed looked slept in. Floor felt grungy. There was literally a sticky beverage spill on the nightstand. The hallway carpet was super worn and grungy looking. The air SMELLED like chlorine or bleach. Bed was ok.

"I did not experience the horror stories others are mentioning!"
Terry_Hargraves, 17 Octobre 2019

I booked a suite for 9 days at this hotel because it's close to University of Minnesota veterinary hospital, where our furbaby is participating in clinical cancer trials. The night before I left Texas I made the mistake of reading TripAdvisor reviews. The reviews were so bad I was almost afraid to try to speak to any of the staff. I arrived fully expecting the worst and was most pleasantly surprised. The train station motif is really interesting. Yes, the rooms are a bit rundown and worn around the edges. That's to be expected in a dog friendly hotel. It's Best Western, not the Ritz Carlton. But the suite is large and comfortable. The rude employees mentioned in the reviews are nowhere to be found. Everyone we've met from front desk to housekeeping to breakfast bar has been helpful, courteous, friendly and most importantly, they all love on my dog! There was no television in the bedroom of our suite, apparently had never been as there was no cable connection back there, either. We asked for a TV, and by the next day they had strung new cable into the bedroom and went out to BUY a tv for us! I have heard no noise from other rooms. Our suite looks down on the indoor pool, and the only way we know anyone is using it is if we look out the window, no noise. There's a little whiff of chlorine as you walk by the pool, but nowhere else. Breakfast is basic but adequate. My only complaint is that I am paying 4 star prices for a 3 star hotel, but the prime location and lack of other lodging nearby somewhat justifies their prices. I've often suspected that some TripAdvisor reviewers might be just a tad too picky. Now I'm convinced.

"Spacious, but problems."
Cellocourt, 12 Octobre 2019

Good customer service. Spacious room and plenty of places outside of room to sit, visit, read in eating area, pool side, entry, and lounge. But thin walls so heard conversation & music next door. Toilet seat broken. Used washcloth hanging on shower and old room card in room when we entered.

"Was told we would have air- conditioning and I have C.O.P.D. and all we got was a Fan"
Rich T, 24 Septembre 2019

The Best Western on 1010 Bandana Blvd west. The house keepers were nice but the people behind the desk did not give a care about you. I have C.O.P.D. and when we checked in we told them the air was not working. They said they would fix it and get back with us. Well they never did. We went to our wedding and got back to the room and still no air we told them again. They said they would look into it and get back with us again nothing. An hour later we called the desk and they brought us up a fan. I've stayed at alot of B.W. over the year's well Never again. We were there 09/21/19 and left 09/22/19. I paid $154.64 that night and did not even get a senior discount.

"Something New"
rlholte12, 23 Septembre 2019

We recently stayed at the Best Western Plus Como Park Hotel. The hotel was located in a quite area outside of the city, and the outside of the building looked unlike any other hotel I've stayed at. Once inside, we knew we were in for a treat. The building (which was once part of a train car shop) was very unique and gave a sense of stepping onto a movie set. While the hotel itself was average, it was really the beautiful building that had deciding that this will be our go-to when we visit to the cities. The staff were polite and allowed us a late check-out upon asking. Breakfast was good, and the pool looked fantastic. Cozy rooms and a lot of fun exploring the halls and hotel grounds awaits.

"Main floor room to hot and humid"
ravendale1, 17 Septembre 2019

Excellent customer service, however the temperature regulation for the main floor rooms does not work. When moved to 2nd floor with a fan and a window that would open the night was much cooler than the night before.

"Needed to find a decent hotel very last minute, pleasantly surprised! Definitely would stay again."
41594, 12 Septembre 2019

First of all, our two night stay was cheaper than expected because we booked by phone through priceline instead of online. Also, this is my 2nd time staying at a Best Western and it couldn't have gone more smoothly despite the reason I immediately needed to stay in the first place. Reasonably priced rates gave me some peace of mind in comparison with other hotels in St Paul/Roseville. Everyone I talked to there was so quick/helpful/friendly when the room cards needed to be fixed and informing us where everything was, breakfast was excellent both mornings we were there, and the hot tub was a godsend to help me relax!! Plus: the room was cleaned again even before we checked out by noon!

"Would never stay there again"
verns410, 04 Septembre 2019

This hotel is in a rundown condition. Staff was generally helpful, but as they say you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. The heating and cooling system networks does not work very well rooms are generally dingy and in need of an upgrade

"Great History"
kerriakiki, 03 Septembre 2019

Overall my son and I had a great time, interesting history, something different and out of the ordinary. No real complaints. Comfortable beds, decent pool, hot tub and workout room. Was thankful for the shuttle and business room!

"I guess 'if you have to stay here...'"
nagamagamoo1, 03 Septembre 2019

Came here in May 2019 for a graduation at St Thomas. Conveniently located for the graduation event and proximity to downtown St Paul. But that's the only goo thing. The hotel is old and dated. Front desk service is not very attentive. The place is not clean, marginal at best. Breakfast area is ok at best. They have a bar and 'sort of' lounge area with NO AMBIANCE and a poor selection.

"Would have been ok, but...."
Federico1917, 31 Août 2019

Overall it would not be bad. Hotel is nice and staff has been very kind. Anyway, 2 unacceptable issues: - I found a used sock in my room's wardrobe, which is a clear sign that room wasn't cleaned well; - I tried to call the reception few times from the room, but no one ever replied (it was around check out time). Maybe they need more staff. Also (but less relevant): - breakfast is ok but very minimal; - end of breakfast and check out are both too early in my opinion (9:30 and 11). Even if I got BW elite status, they only extended my check out time by an hour.

"Very run down"
Lowemel, 31 Août 2019

It was the first time we stayed, the last time it was not clean at all, Tvs did not work we would not stay here again. Seemed like people there to party was loud. Sketchy parking lot activity- broken down vehicles in lot

"We chose to stay here for the State Fair shuttle service."
Crysta R, 29 Août 2019

Check in went smoothly, the room cleanliness was substandard, we found many issues in our room, breakfast was good and stayed filled until it ended. The best part of the hotel honestly was the shuttle service to and from the State Fair! It was always on time and the driver was friendly.

"Great Location @ Fair Price"
368KJ2019, 29 Août 2019

Great breakfast included in hotel stay, close to State Fair grounds with a shuttle included. The building is unique in that it is an old train depot remodeled into a hotel...there is a pool with hot tub and kiddy pool. I wish each room had it's own A/C unit, but apparently was not an option as most rooms do not have access to the outside...we just had trouble getting our room cool enough to sleep well like we are used to at home.

"State Fair"
Heidi G, 28 Août 2019

Excellent staff and love the shuttle service. Don't want too many people to find out about this private location which is so close to fair grounds! I have been returning here for 30 years with my daughter!

"Great brand & reputable location,"
Justin M, 21 Août 2019

I have a outstanding experience with Best Western properties having Diamond BWR status. Starting this off it's critical to establish this location has a history. It was a train station as well as a Holiday Inn -Express. I have stayed here and well versed on the demographics and the general location. This last stay was a COMPLETE DISASTER. They don't hold accountability or promises and strictly check guest in and out with no expectations or care for the guest, myself included. It's unfortunate to have so many front desk associates being so condescendingly incompetent whether they are overworked/under appreciated—new to the industry is up for debate. This won't make up for experience or lack there of. I figure BWR members have a expectation that deliberately brings us back which is what brings me here. BWR Members are entitled guests having insider knowledge how the operations should be handled. It's understood 66% of BW's 13 brands receive TripAdvisors certificate of excellence and have strong ties to AAA with very strategic reasons. As a member I'm completely within my rights to check in early and get a late check out. This was poorly managed as I needed space to allocate for three adults having been placed in a single king bed with central air being placed at a temperature not adequate for my preference. I eventually took matters into my own hands seeing what upgrades were available through the app and directly speaking with housekeeping. I got a nice room -having to bother the front desk and communicating with housekeeping which made up for the circumstances so far. The issue was still a bother from the start with a guest checking out and waiting patiently as another guest proceeds to cut the line to also get serviced which wasn't a check out. They actually needed to extend their reservation which is the background info to understand why room type allocation wasn't meeting obligations after already calling the property —they never answer the phone. The pool being a exposed area makes for a loud hectic location with a lot of humidity. Too many kids to enjoy the pool. The next day needing a late check out was a challenge with audit not taking the time to check and be accommodating when my house recently burned down. The room type was sold out which was a considerably easy lie I figured which resulted in a reservation extension. This happened with the new front desk supervisor . I was charged almost triple what the first night was and no balance was taken from the travel card I provided for payment. This was a huge mess.

"Nice hotel but poor management"
anonymous328u312, 16 Août 2019

Very poor management. There were kids running around and playing in the middle of the night. Staff did nothing to help quiet it down, despite going on for 2-3 hours. On checkout, they charged the card I registered with, and not the card I handed them right then, forcing a significant overdraft fee. They did the same thing again when I called to fix it, which likewise forced another fee. Manager was thereafter never available after a dozen or so attempts to call, and ignored my emails. All in all, I'm $70 short and the management there couldn't seem to care less. Other than that, the breakfast was nice, the hotel was really unique, and the custodial staff were especially friendly. Practically every room has a view to the pool, which you're pretty much directly next to if you're on the main lower floor. In terms of drawbacks, my fridge began leaking water on the default setting soon after I plugged it in. Since it's a small hotel, the night staff could also do better to make sure that guests are keeping it quiet.

"Great Hotel !"
teddstocker1968, 13 Août 2019

Well run hotel with friendly and efficient employees. Excellent location - close to both St Paul and Minneapolis. Historic buildings, which have been tastefully renovated, but which have retained the original character. Quiet location with park like surroundings.. Free parking. Great value.

"My 5 is for the support staff!!"
findushandy, 12 Août 2019

Clean room, wonderful bed made perfectly. Breakfast was good and kept stocked throughout breakfast time. Support staff so kind and helpful, front desk was upset with management. HVAC was not working and it smelled like chlorine. The historical building is really cool. I'll go back.

"Hot and noisy."
tgrean803134, 11 Août 2019

AC didn't work, Kids running in the halls and yelling unchecked day and night. Music blaring from the laundry room. 3 hours to resolved the AC issue. Resolution was a noisy fan that at least drowned out the noise from the room upstairs.

"Overall - Fair to Good"
NicoleJ1978, 09 Août 2019

Pro's -- The check-in staff was friendly and helpful. The housekeeping did their job well. The breakfast attendant was extremely kind and friendly. The bed was comfortable and the room was large (King Suite). Having two refrigerators was nice. It was nice and cool in my room. Con's -- I like to watch TV in bed, and the TV was in the living room only. There definitely was some deep cleaning that could have been done (vent in the bathroom, stains on the carpet/couch/chair, hairs (not mine) on the bathroom floor. The restaurant/lounge has very plain (convenience store like) food. The bartender was un-inviting and almost rude. My toilet would not flush on the first flush, it had to be flushed 2-3 times every time.

"2 day stay for work"
InstructionalCoach, 08 Août 2019

The staff was excellent and very helpful in a number of ways providing special service. It was a quiet atmosphere, relaxing and conducive to work. The room was clean and had a microwave and refrigerator. Loved that it was connected to Bandana Square where my meetings were held.

"Not a 'Plus' hotel; buyer beware"
akb7772019, 01 Août 2019

*) hotel & every room is pet friendly so the room you stay in most likely has remaining pet dander; check the air vents. *) internet service was spotty in the evenings *) took 3+ days to repair/replace a broken chair in room. Staff didn't even have a replacement available; they said that maintenance doesn't work on weekends *) room decor & bathrooms need updating to modern times; most rooms are like they are from the 1960s Not sure why this is a BW Plus; standard BW hotels are much better.

"Interesting building w/ clean rooms"
S3433PMrickm, 30 Juillet 2019

This BW hotel is in a wonderful old railroad repair depot. The rooms are clean but a bit dated. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the rate was reasonable. Location is good - btw Minneapolis and St Paul.

"Poor service"
724kat, 29 Juillet 2019

Rude breakfast attendant, internet didn't work, wrong checkout time posted. Housekeeping came banging on my door threatening to charge me for late checkout when their guest directory stated the wrong time.

"Quaint "
eliza50648, 24 Juillet 2019

I chose this location solely because of it's proximity to Como Park. And it turned out to be a good choice. Very friendly staff. Good breakfast. Warmest pool that I have ever been in. Low beds! (A huge plus for a short person like me.) It appears a tiny bit dated, but when you look beyond the decor, the history of the building makes it beautiful. The only downfall is there is only one restaurant in this area. Food is available in the Market area at the front desk.

"Neat place"
kamrynw2018, 21 Juillet 2019

A very neat hotel in an old train shop. Very cool architecture. Nice size rooms and comfortable beds. In a great location to access many attractions. They provide and excellent breakfast. Have stayed many times before and this will continue to be the place we stay when we go to the cities.

"Sub-Par Rooms in Interesting Historic Building"
moto108, 20 Juillet 2019

I was excited when I drove up to the hotel to see the building. Such an interesting, obviously old, large brick structure. The only downside at this point was the parking situation. You have to park across the street in a bit of a scary looking parking structure. Nevertheless, as I entered the hotel, I was greeted with what clearly was some sort of building that housed trains. You could still see the rails on the floor and the huge post and beam construction that holds up the roof. There is a large mural on the wall behind the desk with an old photo of the building from it's former life; quite historic and interesting. I asked the desk clerk what the building used to be, and without looking up from the computer, and in a very monotone voice said, "they used to fix trains here." That's it. Nothing else. She was clearly not impressed with the history of the place. The lobby area as well as the bar, pool and breakfast areas were all very nice. That's where all the niceness of this hotel ends. The rooms are a giant let down after seeing the interesting history of the building reflected in the lobby area. They are clearly VERY old, and in dire need of an update. Getting to my room was very confusing, that's all I can say. The door to my room did not shut tightly, but still needed to be literally slammed to get it to close. You could see into the hallway around all sides of the door while in the room. Upon first glance, the room looked ok. The bathroom was another story entirely. I almost couldn't believe it when I looked into the bathroom. Other than the vanity counter, I believe this bathroom had all the original fixtures from the day it was converted from a train repair station to a hotel. See the pictures I have included for further details. I instantly got the feeling I was back in my grandmother's old house. Basically, the room was old, a little sloppily kept, and in need of TLC. I was scheduled to stay for 2 nights, but because there is limited adjustment of the thermostat (no in room air conditioner) I had to leave after one night because it was so incredibly hot in the room. The refrigerator made an annoying high pitched buzzing sound every time it came on and woke me up in the night. All in all, I would say that if someone you know is staying in the hotel, meet them there to have a drink in the bar and take in the history of the building, but do not stay here until updates are made

"STAY AWAY!!!!!!"
Sarah G, 20 Juillet 2019

STAY AWAY !!! Staff was unfriendly, uncaring and ill trained. Thermostat was broken in room so it was stifling hot, music from pool speakers blared out until after 11:15PM. Awful experience - book anywhere else but here ! We have a family of 4 with young children. We booked room with 2 queen bed but when we checked in the give us one king bed, staff refused to change room for us!! We are stuck with 2 separate rooms. No house keeping after 5:30 Dirty, small and out of dates bathroom. NEVER STAY IN THIS HOTEL AGAIN!!!

"Do not book events here"
Shannon A, 18 Juillet 2019

Fell in love with this place and tried scheduling my wedding reception here. 10 emails, 1 physical visit, and many phone calls later I am still without a quote and without a room. They are very disorganized and "gave" the room to someone else despite emailing my mom this morning letting her know the room was available. Best Western customer service agent called them with me on the line, and they confirmed the room was available as well! AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

"Dated rooms with apathetic service"
sarahjL870HN, 15 Juillet 2019

In no particular order: 1. Parking is inconvenient. There is a creepy underground parking garage across the street. Very limited parking near the doors. This makes unloading your vehicle difficult if you have much luggage. 2. I left at 7:15 am for my business meeting, returned at 4 pm. Room had not been cleaned. Was told at front desk it might be as late as 5:30 pm before it was cleaned. That made no sense since someone had been in my room, removed my wet towels and turned all of the lights on. Unmade bed, trash still there. I asked if I could just get some clean towels since I was ready to take a shower and relax. Got towels and lived with the rest of the mess. 3. It's 90 degrees plus right now in the Twin Cities but you have no control over the temperature in your room. I was given a box fan when I inquired about regulating the temperature in the room. Glad I took it since it would be miserable without it. Supposedly the AC is set at 70 degrees in the rooms. That may be but when it is this hot and humid, I don't think the AC can keep up. 4. Breakfast starts at 6:30 am but don't expect it to be ready at 6:30. I was the second person there and had to ask for a fork. Apparently whoever was supposed to restock basic utensils hadn't done it. By 6:45 they had it together. If you've got some place to be, plan accordingly. 5. Room has not been maintained well. Broken wand on curtains. Busted outlet. Extension cords strung all over. Laminated paper in desk drawer warning you to pay attention if the carbon monoxide alarm goes off or if you have any symptoms of carbon monoxide exposure! Refrigerator leaked water which I mopped up. Afraid to try the microwave. Unless you need to stay in this area (like I do), you might want to make a different choice. I booked early and got a decent rate. I feel bad for the people I've talked to who are paying $40-50 more per night. Simply not worth it for what you get.

No hair dryer in room. Ran out of items on breakfast buffet - very slow on refilling items. Desk clerk appeared to sleeping in chair with eyes closed at checkout. Had to announce myself and he appeared very sluggish.

"Nasty Place!"
logicuser, 19 Juin 2019

Would you stay in a hotel where they don't change the sheets? Would you stay in a hotel where there is last guests' hair all over the sheets? Would you stay in a hotel where the staff member says he is fine sleeping in such a filthy bed? Would you stay in a hotel where the staff, including the manager are not interested in talking to you? Would you stay in a hotel where you find all kinds of foreign objects behind the furniture? Would you stay in a hotel where the vent is blowing cold air full blast continuously and you can't do anything about it (no HVAC control)? Would you stay in a hotel where the light bulbs are missing or don't work? Would you stay in a hotel with a headache causing chemical smell in the room? Would you stay in a hotel where the curtains are coming off the hooks and nobody has done anything about it? Would you pay $200 a night for a regular double room at such a hotel? I just did tonight. NEVER AGAIN! This place is nasty and horribly managed. Don't fall for the excuse of an old property. This place is horribly and shamefully mismanaged!

"Bring a fan"
learningfromdoing, 19 Juin 2019

They call it "historic" but they really mean that the HVAC is inadequate. Rooms were HOT in June and could not get cooler. When we talked to the staff they told us that the heating system is old, reminding me that it is an historic building, and that with only two pipes they cannot regulate the heating and cooling. We had two rooms and they only had one fan for us. Finally, hours later they found another one. The second one would not work on High, it fell over...Bring a fan from home (or maybe a space heater if coming in the winter). They might be out of them. The perkiness of the staff was annoying. I am sure they get this complaint times per day.

"Clever use of an old locomotive repair shop"
burdz, 17 Juin 2019

Conveniently located for visits to the west side of St Paul. The hotel is comfortable, clean, and generally well-maintained. That said, it could use some updates. There wasn't enough light in the room. One fixture was out. It took 2 or 3 requests and 24 hours before the bulb was replaced. There were no outlets near the beds. The fan in the ventilation system was quite loud. The tub was an older plastic unit that lacked any kind of safety bar. Importantly, the floor of the tub had been smoothed by years of scrubbing and felt slippery and dangerous. A note on finding the hotel: Energy Park Drive runs from Snelling to Lexington. It is much easier to reach it from Lexington, as it is hard to recoup if you miss the poorly marked turn off Snelling.

"Hotel Stay"
421tbutler, 17 Juin 2019

Stayed three nights at this hotel. Friendly stall. Very good beds. Don't expect it to look new because it is a remodeled train depot. Good value, with an ok breakfast. A bid awkward to get around inside the hotel. Room was clean.

"Very neat Building"
erinspohn, 14 Juin 2019

The way they changed the Train Station into a hotel is just amazing. The interior was so cool looking. Our room did have a piece of garbage on the floor when we came in but other than that, we enjoyed our stay. During Breakfast, we were asked if we needed anything else before they closed up.

"My stay"
Explore64669491806, 10 Juin 2019

The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful with sending me to good place to eat. The room was clean with very nice decor. A shuttle was provided for a wedding both to and from destination. I would stay again as it is reasonably priced.

"Adorable"

The pool area was awesome. The hotel is so cute and cozy. Breakfast was great could of been open later. Tim at the front desk was very helpful. It's in a great area close to everything. My kids loved it.

"Heartless "Customer Service""
Deborahh1953, 24 Mai 2019

We booked a hotel stay at this hotel so that we could be near my in-laws during the passing of my mother-in-law in late February. We booked a stay at this hotel through BringFido.com. Within minutes of booking, my husband received notice that his mother had passed away. Therefore, we did not need to drive three plus hours from our home in Northern Minnesota to The Twin Cities to attend to her at her deathbed. Funeral arrangements were postponed until early March to accommodate travel from family out-of-state. I cancelled our reservation IMMEDIATELY upon receiving this sad news. BringFido was very sympathetic to our situation and were willing to refund our money. But management at this hotel flat-out refused. I called and spoke to the manager on more than one occasion. She referred me to a random customer service phone number that she pulled out of nowhere. I called the number and was instantly disconnected. When I again called the hotel manager, she said "that is the best that I can do" - - meaning, placing the burden on me to make attempts to get a refund from some third party broker. As a Platinum member with BestWestern, I cannot tell you how incredibly disappointed I am with these less than adequate effort at delivering customer service.

"Great"
214sherib, 21 Mai 2019

We booked several rooms for a graduation. The hotel staff was great. The warm, indoor pool water was perfect for kids. Breakfast area was clean and food good. Housekeeping was beyond accommodating! We totally recommend this property. It's perfect for families with children. Plus, the location is great.

Cool building! Old RR station with lots of character. A bit overpriced. MOD on duty was very sarcastic and unprofessional but other staff was friendly and nice. Breakfast was good and had good variety.

"Average Stay"
DenverNative80, 12 Mai 2019

The room was spacious, but dated and in need of an update. Best Western has earned a reputation of being a run-down chain. The thermostat didn't work and made my sleep difficult because the room was too warm. When the heat kicked on it would wake me up it was so loud. The breakfast is ok- powdered eggs and steamed sausage. Nothing says good morning like a slimy soft sausage link! They do carry almond milk and cereal which is rare! Staff was always nice and helpful, especially the man that gave us a ride to our seminar at the University!

"Blood in the rooms"
Chris M, 24 Avril 2019

The worst hotel experience I have had in over 15 years of traveling. Can't say enough bad things about this dump of a hotel. Management is incompetent, rude and just all around bad people. Room was dirty, sheets stained, blood on the floor again there was blood on the floor, doors that didn't fully shut, AC didn't work. Please please do your homework and read other reviews of theft, blood in rooms and all-around horrid guest experience. I don't even care about not getting a refund, just want to warn others of this nightmare called a best western. One last time bloooood on the floooor!!!!!! Please check my photo

"Awful stay!"
DRGonna, 17 Avril 2019

Awful stay! Little ants all over the floor in the bathroom. Room smelled like urine. Then to top it off my vehicles back window was busted out! Clearly stated that it was their property parking. Talked to the boy at the office and his only help he offered was to call an officer so we could get a report. We noticed there was a camera outside and asked if he could pull up the footage. He refused saying it was to much time and it would prove anything! Also saying it was our fault because we had valuables in our vehicle and that's why it happened.. smh! A suit case was taken but it was my 5yr olds clothes. Then to find out it happens there a lot with windows being busted out. I guess maybe durning check in I would hope that they would give guests a heads up.

"Neat place"
kamrynw2018, 14 Avril 2019

A very neat place to stay. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Staff are very accommodating. They have an excellent selection of breakfast foods. We stay here every time we go to the cities and will continue to stay here. It's our home away from home.

"Will return!"
David F, 13 Avril 2019

We were scheduled to be in St. Paul over our grandchildren's Spring break from school. Turned out to be Final Four weekend as well. After trying some of our other Best Western choices with no luck we found accommodations for four nights at Como Park. It was great! The king room was spacious and well appointed. The breakfast was good and the breakfast area clean and well appointed. The staff were all very helpful and gracious. The only concern was a noisy air vent but the grandkids daily activities made for sound sleeping. It is so convenient to our family's house (closer that the Capitol Ridge which was our first choice) we will definitely return. It's a unique property and we really enjoyed our stay.

"Awful experience with no call bavj"
msachsmas9n, 10 Avril 2019

Stayed in room 241. Air did not work. Was hot and muggy the entire trip. Called at 2pm that day. Said it would be fixed that evening. Not fixed by 10 pm. Called back Then told no maintenance man was available on the weekend at all. All they could do was bring up a large box type fan. Utterly ridiculous. Barely slept that night it was so hot. Asked for a refund the next morning. Was told the front desk person couldn't authorize a refund since I prepaid for the hotel, and I would have to speak with the manager. Guess what? no manager on duty. Have called 12 times in the 3 days since and left voicemails for the manager to call me back. No call back. They say they are too busy from the final four to call back. The final four happened two days ago. Check out the pictures. This is utterly ridiculous.

"Great service and people. Good value."
Karen H, 08 Avril 2019

We had lost an item and the staff contacted us and made arrangements to get the item back. They were very proactive. Good value particularly if you want to stay right by the airport. The train theme made it a little more unique. Rooms were clean and breakfast was good.

"Good value"
Don P, 05 Avril 2019

Unique facility with well appointed rooms and friendly, helpful staff. The breakfast is better than adequate and the breakfast area is clean and attractive. The only issue is that the parking has been reconfigured and is somewhat confusing. That being said, I highly recommend this facility.

"Train Station Theme-Nice"
FranchiseTeacher, 31 Mars 2019

This was my first stay at this hotel and it was pleasant. The theme is built around train station. The building actually has tracks in the lobby area. The staff at check in and check out were very pleasant. The room was big and clean. It is simple however comfortable. Breakfast was more buffet style and satisfactory. Small bar area and very few items to order for food. Prices were very reasonable and with breakfast included I would suggest going to a restuarant for dinner. The fitness room is small and only had 3 pieces of equipment. The neighborhood is walkable.

"Best western como park"
Navigate53303715045, 26 Mars 2019

I had my five year old's birthday party here and it was perfect. Pool area is perfect to monitor kids. It was early spring, 40 degrees out in Minnesota, this was the perfect place for a kids party for an affordable fee.. There is sitting space around pool so we had snacks out there.

"This Best Western isn't a "PLUS""
dave z, 25 Mars 2019

Phone didn't work, no replacement available. Iron leaked all water, finally received another one. Baby bottle on bed when I first entered room. Many holes in bathroom walls. Room smelled, not good. Carbon monoxide detector hidden behind curtain and not safe. Don't stay here for the money you will pay. So many other very nice hotels nearby for a good price.

"Nice hotel"

Enjoyed Como Park hotel. Loved the breakfast area. Really different and breakfast was good. The hotel has a pool - my husband loved it. Also has a nice lounge area. Can get cocktails and munchies. Super close to state fair. Will stay again

"Loved it"
gothic1, 23 Mars 2019

We were in St Paul for meeting up with people and stayed at this hotel. Had a super person at the desk check us in. So friendly and gave us places to check out. We did not have a car so took alternate transportation. Our room was nice - wi-fi was good - able to work - was fast - Breakfast was nice - the hotel has train rails that run through the breakfast area. Enjoyed breakfast -nice variety. Will return again when in the area.

"Quaint Hotel!"
tonja b, 23 Mars 2019

Our family loved this hotel!! The old train depot ambiance was so unique! Breakfast is served from a train cart and the view from our room to the inside of the hotel was really cool. Our kids love the pool area and of course the goodies sold in the gift shop. Location was awesome! Hotel was clean and wifi was perfect for getting work done. Looking forward to coming back!

"i was disappointed"
Happiness40091652032, 21 Mars 2019

i booked a room for me and my girlfriend. after checking in and getting to out room, we noticed that room had several things that didn't look very clean. the windows were dirty, the power strip had sticky dark stains on it that ran about a foot down the cord. when she went to shower, the fan in the bathroom made a horrible noise that wouldn't go away unless you turned the fan off. while my girlfriend was in the shower, i laid in the bed. underneath the blanket, i found a noodle that someone must have dropped while eating in bed. the final thing that ruined the hotel experience for us was that when we tried to use the microwave, the power short circuited, turning off the tv, fridge, and microwave.

"Nice hotel....would stay again."
U6854CLjamesl, 21 Mars 2019

Clean rooms, friendly front desk staff. Very friendly workers for the breakfast in the morning.....the gentleman was funny and happy. We had a king bed, microwave, and fridge in room. First floor, with a patio door facing breakfast area....no windows to outside.....no matter though, room darkening curtains. Good variety for breakfast. Nice place to stay close enough to XCel Center. $10 Uber ride to Xcel Center. Very quiet place....of course it was a Monday night too.

"Trip advisor"
amalanych, 10 Mars 2019

Trip advisor there's no use putting anything down here they showed the first five or six when you look at the reviews and then they said you could look at the rest press here and it's the oldest to the newest so somebody would have to read 550 reviews to see mine not worth it should be from the newest to the oldest

"Very nice place."
Dreamer18101213408, 08 Mars 2019

The staff were very accommodating to all of my needs. Very friendly and helpful. They even made my dogs feel welcome.I will go out of my way to stay there again when I am I in the Twin Cities next time.

"Pleasantly Surprised"
mikebarnhart, 02 Mars 2019

My family and I had a great experience at this hotel. It is such a unique hotel with historic train tracks and train cart that houses the breakfast. My kids loved the indoor pool and running over to como park. I do a lot of remote work and the internet was fast which is extremely important to me. Plus we like to stream movies at night for the kids so good internet is a must for my family. Our room was clean and spacious and looked like it was recently upgraded. We will definitely stay here again!

"Poor Service from Front Desk and Breakfast Facility"
Paradise29244339367, 01 Mars 2019

No Breakfast facility person so no coffee and limited food options. The front desk person closed the food area 2 hours early because she didn't want to deal with complaints. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and it makes me question Best Western Plus.

"Very odd hotel"
Brenda T, 15 Février 2019

We are from out of town and stayed here because it was close to the conservatory where we were attending a wedding. Hotel parking was very inconvenient and that inconvenience was horribly exasperating in the sub-zero winter snow storm weather. The hotel itself is very oddly laid out and the room very uncomfortable. There was only one chair to sit and watch TV in (there was also a desk chair but it was not at all comfortable for lounging). One positive: the coffee at the breakfast buffet was good. I would not recommend this hotel and I will never stay here again.

"Pet friendly"
Companion55917360229, 12 Février 2019

I have been staying at this Best Western over the last 5 years when having my pets treated at the U of M Animal Hospital and they have always made me and my pets feel welcome. The receptionist have all been extremely helpful and the other staff that I have dealt with have been pleasant and helpful

"Great hotel! Pet friendly!!"
Escape04936227968, 07 Février 2019

"Great Stay"
sammylynn53, 21 Décembre 2018

Very clean and updated, did not get to use the pool but it looked inviting. There is a train museum close to the hotel and we will be back with our family to enjoy that. I wold recommend this hotel for sure.

"Great Location and Retro-Building. But...Needs Maintenance !"
Stu P, 18 Décembre 2018

We have stayed here several times because of its location and pet-friendly policy. Love the historical railroad facility conversion. Friendly staff. So much potential to do it right, yet so many routine maintenance items go unattended. Issues with room lighting, leaky plumbing valves, weak WiFi, sloppy wall and door repairs, outside entry door was broken and security disabled, etc. Appears that owners are no longer reinvesting in needed maintenance. Really a shame as this facility could be such a gem.

"Best Western Plus Como Park Hotel"
Trail32071309782, 10 Décembre 2018

We have stayed here many times, and have never been disappointed. The staff is always attentive and friendly. The value for the price is excellent. We usually invite family members to visit us, in the lounge, when we are there and the staff is welcoming and tolerant of this.

"Dirty, nasty, loud"
summerhum1, 03 Décembre 2018

Room 219 - which has it's window facing the lobby/breakfast area. Complained about the noise of a group of teenage girls who had been roaming the hotel like a pack of bored wolves looking for something to do. Could not just call down to the front desk, they were not answering. Had to walk down there to bring it to their attention. Next thing I knew, the girls loudly walked down our hallway, banged loudly on our door and ran away. I complained to the front desk again and they claimed to kick them out. In the mean time, my autistic young son was now freaked out and could not fall asleep. To the things the hotel could control - the pool was cloudy and nasty - lots of wet towels and wrappers and wet bandaids floating in the water. The hotel ran out of pool towels. The room's beds were hard and the bathroom smelled of stinky feet.

"Dog and kid friendly"
FlyingKestrel, 26 Novembre 2018

Having seen a few mixed reviews, we were a little uncertain what to expect, but the location is very close to our family and the promise of dog-friendly was crucial., so we took a chance. We had a LOVELY EXPERIENCE from first to last. All of the staff I dealt with were friendly, helpful and professional. Our room - overlooking the front desk and main lobby area - was large, clean, quiet, and nicely decorated with all the conveniences (frig, microwave, iron, etc). We could easily access the elevator straight from the main entrance which made taking the dog in and out very easy. Our grandson enjoyed the many breakfast choices and thought the pool area looked fun. (Sadly we did not have a chance to try it out.) While the railroad-themed "breakfast station" was a little crowded during the morning rush, the seating areas were ample and comfortable. There is also a pleasant little bar area called the Waiting Room which looked very comfy and relaxing, like someone's living room. We will definitely stay here again.

"Don't stay here!"
Paradise55991900337, 24 Novembre 2018

Best Western should not allow this hotel to carry their name, let alone to use Plus. Horrible parking lot, little to no exterior lighting. Moisture problem in the rooms and back up of the shower. Absolutely horrible.

"Consistently High Standards"
Diane E, 24 Novembre 2018

Once again, we had an exceptional stay at the Bandana Square Best Western Plus. The central location for the Twin Cities, free parking, pet-friendly, and consistently high standards with reasonable prices keep bringing us back. We no longer have a dog to accompany us, but it is great fun to be able to great the canine guests as they make their way through the hallways and lobby area. The staff is always very accommodating and friendly. We requested an after dinner drink in the lounge and the bartender managed to come up with some cream to make it happen. The rooms are regularly maintained and always comfortable, clean, and quiet. It is wonderful to be able to make a reservation and know that we will receive top quality accommodations and service when we arrive.

"trip to visit the granddaughter"

We stayed at this hotel when we visited the family in the area. It was a good place to stay and planned on staying more than once but the family moved from the area. The pool was very nice and the room comfortable.

"Don't use a credit or debit card here"
Harrypog, 19 Octobre 2018

A "hold" was put on our debit card when we checked. Totally normal. Our bill was paid in full when we checked out. The "hold" has not been deleted. When we talked to a manager, she was rude, righteous, arrogant and blamed our bank. She took NO responsibility to fix the situation even though we had our bank talk to her. A bank can't drop charges put on by a business. She just kept telling us what she saw on "her' screen (which was inaccurate) and blamed the bank. And, she asked if we read the sign at the front desk. When I asked her where the sign that said "We will put a hold on your money but we won't release it when you pay your bill in full" was, she just snarled. We are going to the Better Business Bureau to get this resolved since our bank can't and Best Western won't.

"The negatives equal the positives here."
traveltheworld012, 19 Octobre 2018

This is not a premium hotel, but it is also not a derelict building either. I stayed here three night for a business trip. The location is convenient, but not much for finding restaurants nearby within walking distance either. My stay was just okay, hence the score three. Positives first: comfortable large room and quiet outside the room. Mid-range price: $125/night (tax incl.). The hotel is kept clean, indoor pool and breakfast included. Doesn't sound too bad right? Here's the negatives, then decide: The staff here doesn't really seem to care too much about customer satisfaction. They never ask if everything is ok, or offer needed information. One has to inquire. Breakfast is not very good, not much effort put into making it anything but blase. Coffee is terrible. The food area is very narrow and if more than three people are getting food at the same time it is too crowded. My room; curtains were falling off the hangers, never fixed. The easy chair in the room had a big stain on the seat cushion - I would not sit in it. Central ventilation system was noisy 24 hours/day. Over by the TV, it made a loud clicking noise constantly. Right outside the exit door by my room there was a dead squirrel- after three days it was still there. Parking next to the hotel is very limited- mostly not enough parking spots. This is the only hotel within a 3 mile radius or so and that is why I chose it, for the location.

"Last minute booking made easy."
dmogck, 18 Octobre 2018

Didn't decide to stay until the last minute. We actually made the reservation on the drive down. My son and I decided to run in a brain cancer run/walk at the 11th hour. But everything went smoothly, and the location was close to Como Park, which made the trip even easier.

"Doesn't live up to Best Western expectations"
NorthB, 12 Octobre 2018

The staff were wonderful, but the property itself will prevent us from returning, even though the location is convenient for us. There is not sufficient parking for the size of the hotel. The room was dingy, water pressure is very low, and it was nearly impossible to get the room warm enough for comfort. Disappointing.

"Good location ridiculous HVAC system."
David H, 02 Octobre 2018

Not staying here for work any more. The A/C is running full on all night long and it's 42 degrees F outside. I called the front desk, and he said that is the way the system works, that the temp setting of the thermostat in other rooms that might be too hot, causes the A/C to run in other rooms that might be too cold, said nothing they could do to fix other than bring me more blankets. Second time the A/C has run wild while staying here.

"Came home with Bed Bug Bites (per Doctor), Heat register could not keep room warm and Greasy hot breakfast items"
dharabians, 01 Octobre 2018

A better breakfast...the sausage links were dripping in grease. Eggs were cold.I also got bug bites two of the three nights we stayed. Reported to staff the first morning and showed them to staff member (there are about 10 of them on my stomach). They were suppose to change all bedding.Next night - woke up with more bug bites. 5 on the back of my neck and three on the top of my foot. Again, reported to staff and checked out.Sent a pix to my doctor today (Monday, 10/01), and they said they look like bed bug bites.Thankfully we left all luggage and clothes outside and washed all today. If we end up with bed bugs at home - we will be in contact. Also, room 154 - the heat register in the room can not keep that size of a room warm...we froze the entire stay as the nights were down in the 40's.

"This property has ownership/management issues"
Jonathan S, 29 Septembre 2018

This hotel has so much potential. Great location near Como Park. Beautiful redeveloped historical site. BUT.....tons of deferred maintenance and regular maintenance issues. Broken sauna timer, broken exercise bike in exercise room, hvac problems that cause customers to complain and ask for fans when its 50 degrees outside. Regular maintenance problems: dirty pool areas, hot tub that is not cleaned frequently enough, exercise room that appears to never be cleaned. They also have a parking problem that they blame on the City of St Paul. You get the picture. Best Western should inspect this site and demand change or pull their brand name until the owner/manger shapes up.

"Emergency travels with our dog"
susanv59, 27 Septembre 2018

We were scheduled for an airbnb, we went and would not stay, very undesirable. We had to find a place at that moment. To our surprise we found this hidden gem. Its clean, comfortable beds, outstanding staff. My Bella could not have been more welcomed. This is not your typical Best Western- it's quaint and seems to be a refurbished train station. There is a pool, breakfast is served. Business center, bar and food brought in. We will come back here when in the area.

"nice hotel but limited supplies and service"
Maps4733, 24 Septembre 2018

This is our second stay at this hotel. Our first stay was very pleasant so that is why we choose to return to this hotel. When I called the only room available was a room with a king bed - we were traveling to the zoo with myself, my spouse, my adult child and grand baby. They said we could reserve a roll away bed but it was on first come first serve. Of course, when we arrived they were out of roll aways. We knew this might happen so requested extra blankets and my adult child (23 years old) could sleep on the floor. They said they would bring up extra bedding. An hour went by and no bedding arrived - called the front desk who said they were out of bedding. What?! How does a hotel run out of bedding? We ended up all sleeping in the king bed together. for $170+ a night that seems ridiculous! No offer for concessions just no bedding. We all slept under 1 comforter - pushing and pulling all night and a horrible nights sleep for all of us. While it makes for a good story - it was not acceptable. We travel to Minneapolis area about 2-3 times a year and this was our first choice of a place to stay - not anymore - we will pass on this hotel in the future. If customer service would have concessed us or seemed more concerned we would continue back as we understand these things happen. But $170 a night + for a lousy night of sleep is not acceptable and ruined our trip to the zoo the next day and made the drive home unbearable with the lack of sleep.

"No close parking"
Carletta M, 22 Septembre 2018

Had to park over a block away. Poor lighting to walk alone in the dark. Staff really didn't care if you had to walk alone in the dark. Not advised if there was another entrance available or if a guard to walk with you.

"Dog friendly place close to colleges"
Julie W, 21 Septembre 2018

We were looking for a hotel close to the college our daughter attends. Thought we would check this place out as we were also looking for a pet friendly hotel so we can bring the furry canine siblings to visit. While the hotel is a little dated, the place is unique and the front desk staff were friendly and very helpful. The continental breakfast was decent. The rooms were clean. Appreciate that they have rooms located where it would be easy to take a dog out for a walk without disturbing other guests. Decent green space in the area for avid sniffers. Only a few miles up the road from Hamline, Macalester, St Catherines and St Thomas. We will definitely be staying here again.

"Unique hotel, but our experience was unsatisfactory."
leighann0576, 16 Septembre 2018

We booked this hotel in advance due to the location being near a wedding venue at the Como Zoo. We arrived at checkin time and were provided keys to what they said was the last double room available. When we entered the room a young girl was in the room alone and we returned to the desk. They said they could move us to the only other room available which was a king. There were 4 of us staying and there were no rollaways available. She said we could change for our wedding in the king room and she would find out why there was someone in our other room or could move us to a different location. I told her that this was not possible because we chose Como due to the location. She checked other hotels anyway and nothing was available. We went to the king room to change and it smelled of smoke. We informed the front desk and she said she would move us out of the room as soon as possible. There were no other rooms available. She checked the double room again and apparently the squatters had vacated by that point. They cleaned it quickly and we moved our things to the other room. We made it to the wedding on time within just a few minutes to spare. Breakfast was supposed to be included and it was paid for, so my husband and I ate first and then he went to get breakfast for the kids to bring back to the room due to a late night. There was still 20 minutes left but he was told they were tearing it down and would not serve anymore breakfast. My kids were unable to have breakfast as a result. We had to stop on our way out of town and pay again for a meal. I would not stay at this location again.

"Not again, not a star"
cpdrn7, 13 Septembre 2018

Sorry to say this doesn't meet the standards of the best westerns that i always visit. The moment you enter the building the chlorine smell is terrible. Our room had non working lights, and toilet not secured to floor! I will pass on staying here again. Staff friendly, not their fault the standards aren't met.

"Great location to attend the State Fair"
Happy_Customer4321, 31 Août 2018

We stayed here 4 nights for the primary purpose of visiting the state fair. Free shuttle to/from the fair was a great feature here. Continental breakfast was OK with both hot and cold items, just a little chaotic with a small area for so many people. Internet was slow at times. Bed was extremely comfortable, indoor pool and hot tub was nice, room was very clean, and we liked the historic nature of the property.

"They have some problems, but all in all they were okay"
ovolacto, 27 Août 2018

What really makes this place special is the great staff. All of the staff are very accommodating, helpful, and efficient. The hotel, itself, is not outstanding, but it's okay, and it is in an excellent location if you want to go to the State Fair. It's actually walking distance to the State Fair Grounds, (about a mile?), for most healthy people. The beauty of this place is that it is in an old train station, and they exploit the train theme throughout. I love the historic sense of the place. It does have a pool that is indoors, and it can get kind of noisy if a lot of people are allowing their kids to play at the pool. There are no lifeguards, so people do tend to get noisy, run around the pool, and otherwise ignore safety, but, fortunately, the pool closes at 10:00 p.m., they are very strict about that, and people seem to respect it. Inside, the rooms were of adequate size, and cleanliness, but the prices do go up around State Fair time, as is expected. Still, it's only about $200 a night, which isn't too bad these days. Breakfast is included, and they offer all of the usual items. They do have almond milk, too. For people with rental cars, there is a gas station a block away so you can fill up before heading back to the airport. It's an easy ten-minute drive to the airport from here. Also, there is a bar down on the end of the block with a good sampling of Minnesota bar food, and Sports TV. I was not, however, too impressed with the bar in the hotel. The food was pretty crappy - frozen pizza, nachos, and quesadillas. We ate there because we were hungry, but I probably wouldn't do it again. Another big problem when we were there was parking. There was parking all around, but most of it was not usable by anyone. The close lot for hotel guest was not big enough for all visitors, and the overflow lot was a good, long walk away in an abandoned parking garage that made one wonder if one's car would be safe overnight. The car was safe, but we tried to avoid parking there as much as we could. People were parking on the grass, in fire lanes, and anywhere they could get away with it just to avoid going to that overflow lot. This place was not perfect, and they were experiencing some growing pains, but it is a "budget" place, and it pretty much fit the bill there. The big, positive credit to their benefit was the outstanding staff. All of the staff were so nice, they made up for all of the other shortcomings of the hotel.

"leisure overnight"
Catherine G, 25 Août 2018

OK property. Sky high price due to location to the state fair grounds--the reason for our stay.Hotel is OK but in desperate need of remodel, rooms are clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast area is pretty small so gets somewhat congested . Breakfast area was not attended very well, employees were busy on their phone or talking with co-workers.

"Read ALL the other reviews!!"
Lindsey R, 23 Août 2018

I read all the other reviews and I thought “Its just for one night, how bad can it be?” I called in the morning before we left home and asked if there was any possible way we could get an early check in as we were going to a concert and had a meet and greet beforehand. Absolutely not, is what I was told. Then, we get there to check in at 11:30 pm and there is no parking. There is literally zero parking here, folks. The front desk just said “There's a lot down the road, to the right and then in a parking garage.” I said “That's 6 blocks away.” “Yes” was her response. Then I asked if we could cancel our reservations and was told no because they have a 24 hour cancellation period. I haven't even gotten to breakfast yet, I'm writing this in hopes that I stop someone, anyone from staying here!!!

"No parking"
Kyle K, 22 Août 2018

Serious lack of parking near the hotel. No handicap accessible ramp. Made it extremely hard to get my father in law in and out of the hotel into the car. Extremely crowded breakfast with not not enough staff to keep up with the amount of guests. Best Western employees were eating breakfast during peak time. No control in the room for the air. It blows all night. You can ask to have it turned off but hen you deal with the heat of the room. Hot tub broken 2 of our nights.

"Broken pool and semi dirty room"
Kristopher F, 22 Août 2018

Arrived to find out the pool and hot tub were out of service. Asked to cancel our reservation so we can move to a different hotel with a working pool for our kids. Were told they couldn't cancel after the 24 hour prior to arrival policy. They offered $18 in exchange for our trouble instead of being moved to another best western in town. He refused to call a manager and said they couldn't do anything for us

"Eh"
Lyss H, 28 Juillet 2018

Some good things: Breakfast was good and our room was clean. The inside of the hotel was decorated like a little village, and it was really cool. Now I'm not a complainer. I work at a hotel/resort so I know how hospitality works and I know everyone is trying their best. But there were a couple things that disappointed me. Their website said there was a shuttle that would take you around town and bring you back etc. They failed to mention anywhere on the website that the shuttle only runs Monday-Thursday from 8 am-2 pm. Their website also advertises that they are right across the street from the Xcel Energy Center. We traveled from Wisconsin for a concert, so we paid a little extra for this hotel seeing as it had a shuttle and was right across from the place where our concert was taking place. But unfortunately, it was a 15 minute drive and there was no shuttle to take us. So we had to drive and pay $45 for parking. It was my mistake for not checking to see if the hotel was definitely right across the street from Xcel Energy Center, so that was my fault; but they advertised on their website that they are across the street so I didn't even think to check because why would they lie about that? Pretty disappointed in that since we picked this hotel for those two reasons. There also isn't enough parking in the hotel's parking lot, which they also didn't mention on the website. So we had to park in a parking garage that was a 10 minute walk from the hotel. The shuttle wasn't running to take us to/from the parking garage. We really didn't mind walking, but it would've been nice to know ahead of time. Besides these things, it was a good stay.

"Best place to stay when visiting the Minnesota state fair"
James H, 22 Juillet 2018

Nice hotel built in an old train facility. Closest hotel to the faigrounds. Staff is always helpful and work to solve most issues if possible. There are minor issues at times but they work to correct. My favorite hotel for horse shows or anything at the state fairgrounds.

"Three star"
Vicki W, 20 Juillet 2018

You get what you pay for. Very basic but staff were really helpful. Really well situated for train station and the local town and lake. Its a great base for seeing the sites. Clean and tidy. Air con brilliant

"Wonderful staff!"
gatheringleaves44, 17 Juillet 2018

The front desk staff at the Best Western Como Park Hotel are superb! Conscientious, accommodating, and willing to go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable! Two young ladies, Vettie and Kim, stood out in particular. This is a great hotel for kids - housekeeping rescued a very important toy from under the bed and arranged it in pride of place on the pillows while we were out. These little details make me want to return the next time I stay in St. Paul!

"Stole my iPad"
Puttinondafritz, 05 Juillet 2018

DO NOT STAY HERE. IF I COULD SCREAM IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS I WOULD. My iPad was stolen while we were away for the day. Not cool. Not cool. Not cool. They had to go to some trouble to steal it, but steal it they did. We will NEVER stay here again.

"Great Nostalgic Hotel"
654janineb, 25 Juin 2018

Very welcoming staff, if something isn't right they fix it. Enjoyed our week long stay. Location is near Como Park area so great for summer outings, they have a great hot breakfast, swimming pool and hot tub, shuttle service and lots of train station nostalgia, rooms and hallways were cleaned and smelled fresh. Staff works hard to accommodate reasonable requests promptly and with a genuine smile.

"Fascinating setting in old RR repair depot"
Joyce W, 16 Juin 2018

Very nice place to stay. A little pricey, but the beds were great, the pool and hot tub clean and inviting, and breakfast excellent. Front desk personnel courteous and welcoming. Interesting displays of railroad memorabilia. Easy access from Snelling Ave.

"We loved it, and then we didn't."
rhoraceb1, 14 Juin 2018

This hotel had been recommended to us because it is an excellent example of historical preservation, a factory warehouse converted into a hotel, tastefully done and done according to accepted preservation standards. We were immediately impressed at how well the heavy wooden beams in walls and ceilings had been incorporated. We loved it, and then we didn't. Our daughter had reserved a suite to accommodate her, her two children, and my wife and me, so we had a lot of space, but it was sparsely furnished. My wife and I slept well in the comfortable King Size bed, but the bedroom, though large had only two small night tables, a desk and chair, and a tv screen on the wall. We put bags, clothes, shoes, whatever, on the floor. Our daughter and the kids slept in the rather small sitting room. The pull-out bed was difficult to pull out, and then we couldn't get it back together to have a couch. We left it half closed in the morning, expecting housekeeping to finish closing it, but they left it that way, neither couch nor bed. Our daughter and grandchildren did, at least, have a closet to hang clothes. There was only one relatively small bathroom. It did have a tub, which the two grandchildren and my wife all tried to use, but there was no drain plug. My daughter asked four times over two days before finally getting a plug, and then the plug didn't fit properly. Our most negative experience, however, was that the thermostat did not work, and the two vents continued blowing chilling air throughout our stay, despite our repeated requests to correct the problem. It was uncomfortably cold. It had been OK for sleeping the night before, but when we stayed in and spent time together the second evening, as planned, it was very uncomfortable. We had reported the issue in the afternoon, before we went to the Como Park Zoo with the kids. When we returned a few hours later, there was no change Still cold. I went back to the desk twice that evening, without results. The temperature discomfort added to the fact that in the dining area, though it was quite roomy, there were only one small table and four chairs. The kids sat on the floor. At checkout they apologized and gave my daughter a discount for the troubles and poor service. The discount and the architecture nudged my final overall rating from poor to average. Oh, yes, I promised my grandkids I would mention that they liked the pool and breakfasts. Robert H. Boyer

"Convenient location"
Hilary S, 31 Mai 2018

Really cool converted train station. The location was perfect for us, especially as there really are no other options in this neighborhood. Breakfast was good, decent selection. Pool area with sauna and whirlpool, however very strict about 10:00 closing so just missed using facility.

"Amazing Stay"
kiababi0724, 31 Mai 2018

My stay was great! The bed was super comfy, room stayed cool even though it was very hot outside, breakfast was amazing, front desk staff were very polite and took care of all of our needs and i would surely stay here again!

"Great Stay"
jmc1958, 30 Mai 2018

Very interesting hotel and complex, with that railroad theme. Breakfast was good with many choices. The yogurt dispenser and mix-ins was fantastic. King room was spacious. Cooling system was noisy, but it was running constantly since it reached 101 degrees one day and 96 the next day

"Very cool repurposed historical train depot"
ETA_SiouxFalls, 23 Mai 2018

Wonderful late-night check-in staff! The incorporation of historical rail elements on hotel and more generally Bandana Square (including a picturesque old locomotive) really heightened my experience here. Reasonably quick driving distance to University of Minnesota campus.

"Great sleep"
timothyagrimes, 17 Mai 2018

Overall positive experience, and frankly I love the layout and design of this place. Great bed also. My girl and I slept very well. Definitely would return. I think it's ridiculous and I'm somewhat indignant that a hot tub is padlocked to a paying adult at 10 PM, but overall great stay.

"Check in"
bearriehle, 07 Mai 2018

When I had booked the room I had called to make sure that I was able to check in by myself since I am under the age of 21. When I called, the gentlemen that I had talked to said that I was going to be fine checking in. When we got to check in I asked the lady at the front desk and she said she would call the assistant general manager but she thought everything would be fine since we were from 3 hours away. When we talked to the assistant general manager, she was nothing but rude and very pushy. If I was told I had to stay in that hotel again and deal with her, I wouldn't.

"not the best best western"
Diane W, 01 Mai 2018

need better front desk people and breakfast is a joke; was disappointed as it did not match the reviews I read prior to staying there...I would have picked a different hotel and next time I will. Grade C

"Needs Work"
Girlzx2, 28 Avril 2018

We stayed here 4 days over easter weekend visiting a family member that was in a nearby hospital. Luckily we were not there much of the time. Pros Proximity to Gillette Childrens Hospital (reason we were here) Staff - they were all so nice and helpful from check in, breakfast and housekeeping. Decent breakfast Nice pillows Cons The closet door kept coming of the tracks and was a danger (makeshift closet) The false drop ceiling in the entry and bathroom fell on us when the closet caught it and it came down. Room was less than clean. French fries behind the TV, used towels not changed out, furniture needed to be wiped down. Pool area was not well kept and smelled. Beds uncomfomfortable. Not alot of restaurants in the immediate area. Hotel is in the discount program for Gilette childrens and is far from accessible for the children who are in town to recieve services. There are no door assists and the breakfast area is not accessible at all. There have been attempts to update the hotel however it is surface stuff and it really needs some structural accomidations. I really wish I could give this a higher review but there is not much to say. If I was just rating the staff they would be 5 stars as they were all so wonderful.

"Girls weekend"
kmanttila12, 25 Avril 2018

We checked in later and had excellent service. Breakfast was fun and the staff went out of their way to make sure that we had enough to eat, even brought out something extra just for us! Lovely weekend.

"Nice Hotel (a few updates needed)"
Sarah C, 23 Avril 2018

First of all, this is a very nice hotel in terms of the room I stayed in and the quality of sleep I got the four nights I was here. The room was very clean, as was the rest of the hotel including the breakfast area (which is an old train depot). Most of the staff (all but the gentleman there the morning I left, I think Chris was his name) were incredibly hospitably and very friendly, including the woman that checked me in at 1:30 a.m. The breakfast was decent, a typical hotel breakfast with a few hot options: a breakfast meat (bacon or sausage), scrambled eggs and waffles. There is also yogurt, though it comes out of a machine which is a little odd as well as donuts, bread products, apples, oranges and oatmeal with a few fixings. The area where the food is kept is quite small and there were a number of folks bumping into one another trying to maneuver in the small space. The staff, however, were friendly and attentive to making sure nothing ran out. There were two hot tubs and a pool. I know these things have to be highly chlorinated for hygienic reasons but it was a little over the top. Several of the people I was there with used the hot tub and had their bathing suits permanently bleached from the amount of chlorine. So I'm sure it's clean but be sure not to wear anything you care too much about. Then there's the workout room. We were all pumped that there were so many options to use as we are all outdoor professionals who love exercise. Excited until we showed up to use the equipment our first morning there and too our dismay every single machine was broken. The recumbent bike was the only thing aside from the weights that was the slightest bit functional but it required a tall person and was stuck on the highest resistance. One of the employees told someone they had just broken the day before (keep in mind this was on our third morning here). No need to lie. Just be honest and get them fixed and in the meantime let guests know that is the case. A big disappointment. My last complaint is the lack of environmental responsibility. Most hotels practice some form of sustainability usually by leaving towels that are hanging up and providing new ones if there are any on the floor. I made a point each morning to hang up all of my towels in order to not have house keeping replace them and each morning they were replaced. I wanted my bed made and garbage removed but not my towels. There is no reason not to practice this. Also, there is no recycling here (not even paper). I took my paper from 4 days to the airport to recycle it. This would be an easy fix. Again, my room was lovely and most of the staff were exceptional. Just make a few adjustments and this place would be even better.

"Website and pictures are misleading"
robertmQ7002IJ, 23 Avril 2018

We chose this hotel based on website info and pictures for our family of 4. Was very disappointed. The staff was friendly enough, but the fitness center had 3 machines in it--2 of which were broken. The noise from room to room was terrible. There were people in the room above us that were up until after 3 am and it sounded and felt like they were going to come through the ceiling the whole night. Called and complained several times to AGM at front desk and issue was never resolved. Pool was small, so crowded. The breakfast area was cute, but the food was so-so. Will not stay here again.

"Amazing place"
Xan666, 15 Avril 2018

Thes best part, asode from cleanliness and service is that the hotel is and old train station, so it s also very aesthetically pleasing putsode and inside, especially the lobby area. The breakfast was yummy too! The bartender was nice. Only down fall in my opinion is the internet could have been a LITTLE better. Overall was a lovely visit.

"Unique"
E A F, 05 Avril 2018

As indicated before, this was an old train station. The hotel motif blends well. Meeting rooms are named after old railroads, the breakfast area is a miniature train depot, the original platform and water tower are still intact. That said, the rooms are large well appointed ( miniature suite actually - bath/shower are in a separate room from rest of the bathroom area). The bed was comfortable, pillows are firm, there is a chair with side table, work desk, and just an overall brightness. Breakfast was very good - contained all the hot and cold items. Front desk unusuably helpful. I got here early, my room wasn't ready, but they switched me to one that was. Can't beat that! I'd definately stay and recomend this unique Best Western

"Better than I thought!"
KathFW, 02 Avril 2018

I hadn't booked the hotel for the concert we were attending and was worried about staying at a Best Western. The hotel is in a very cool old train station which sets it apart from anything else, it was pretty inexpensive, our room was clean and it seemed like a nice place for a quick stay. The building is old, the windows were old and there was no fan setting for the room, you could choose from 3 temps and that was it, the breakfast ends pretty early so if you plan to eat there, get up early. But again, the room was clean so there's that.

"clean room, nice staff, other guests inconsiderate"
Lucy H, 26 Mars 2018

Room was clean and adequate. bed hard and sinks in the middle. There was a kid's pool party with screaming, running kids, and a boy throwing a basketball up to the second floor wall. No parents were in sight. A couple was having a loud argument heavy on the f-words. Loud music in room next door. Unfortunately all this left a poor impression of other hotel guests on an otherwise clean hotel.

"Unique decor"
Deborah V, 26 Mars 2018

Staff was awesome on arrival and check out. Breakfast was very tasty. Even though the hotel was very busy it was very quiet and we love the train station decor. Very neat hotel. The bed was very comfortable and the room very homey.

"Great service"
Billy W, 27 Février 2018

Lavette North was an excellent front desk help. Her service would have me to return to this hotel if here in the future. The hotel itself is decent. Quiet area, nice lobby with the railroad tracks still in it.

"Interesting Building"
Staci W, 26 Janvier 2018

Probably the best part of this property is that it is a re-purposed railway station. It give it a unique style. The concerns with the rooms were that you had very little control over the temperature - we had the heat up as far as it would go (75 degrees-although it was definitely not that warm). Fortunately, it was a warm weekend for January standards so that was sufficient enough, but I for cold Minnesota winters, I doubt it would've been warm enough. The shower most definitely needs to be updated! And the room was not very sound proof. We weren't anywhere near the pool and you could hear the kids playing in there as if we were right above it. The windows look really cool because of the architecture of this old building, but they are also not sound proof. We had smokers congregating outside at 1:00am in the morning and it sounded like a party going on outside of our hotel window. The location of this hotel is odd - there are not restaurants nearby. All in all this place was okay, but for the what we paid for the room, I would be reluctant to stay there again at that rate.

"Did the job"
Megan N, 22 Janvier 2018

We stayed here for Minnesota wild game. It was a quick Uber drive to the game. This hotel I would say is mediocre. It's very unique and my kids liked that. The staff was very friendly. I don't feel like it's the most updated. But I felt like it was clean. The second day the pool was not so clean. All in all, If you need a decent price and in a decent location I would recommend this hotel.

"Reservation Problems"
carlwU7095TW, 08 Janvier 2018

We did not get the rooms we were promised. We reserved a "block" of rooms near the pool, and some of our rooms ended up on the second floor. The initial contact at the desk was not very cooperative in trying to resolve the problem. It was after an additional staff person looked into the situation that we were given the satisfaction of fulfillment of our reservation.

"nice stay for New Years!"
Cindy M, 02 Janvier 2018

This is a very lovely and well cared for place to stay in St. Paul. The rooms are large and comfortable, the pool area great, breakfast was outstanding, and there were several good restaurants close by. Love the character of the building and the staff!

"Christmas Disaster"
lisamT3615LG, 02 Janvier 2018

My husband and I have 8 young grandchildren and thought that it would be fun to rent a poolside room for them to come to and swim on Christmas day for a while. I rented the room at least two months in advance and went to the hotel two days before our reservation to confirm our poolside status. When we checked in on Christmas day we were told that they were short staffed and that housekeeping went home before all the poolside rooms were cleaned and therefore we were not able to have a poolside room, like we reserved. Totally unacceptable and very disappointing! I expressed my disappointment to the General Manager the next morning and never once, did he even apologize. He was rude and condescending. I wouldn't expect to be treated like that under normal circumstances but especially when our experience at this hotel negatively impacted our Christmas, terrible!!

"Unique hotel with great customer service"
Jennifer R, 01 Janvier 2018

After a not so wonderful stay in a Best Western the night before we came to Best Western Plus Como Park Hotel and it was a breath of fresh air! The front desk clerk was very nice and welcoming. The room was very clean and the hotel as a whole was very clean and welcoming. We enjoyed the free breakfast and check out was easy and the clerk (Ethan) was very kind as well! The only issue we had was that it was New Year's Eve and the people below us would not turn down their music or voices until well after 2 a.m., but that was not at all of any fault of the hotel. I would definitely stay again and would recommend this hotel to family and friends!

"Unique building!"
GooMom98, 01 Janvier 2018

In an old train station- not your cookie cutter Best Western. Nice quiet location with access to many St. Paul activities and restaurants with only a short drive. Breakfast is good. Staff were friendly and caring. Have stayed here many times in the past and... We will stay again!!!

"Great place to stay in Midway area"
Nancy N, 30 Décembre 2017

Easy access, free parking, internal walkway to Bandana Square if you are planning to stay in the Midway area. Good breakfast that included eggs, bacon & sausage, waffle/pancake mix as well as the usual continental options. Bring your bathing suits as hotel has a fairly large indoor pool and a hot tub! The inner rooms are a bit noisy as the voices and sounds rise - we were on the 2nd floor. Will try a 2nd floor outer room next time to see if that's a little better. Beds are a lilttle soft but overall, no complaints.

"Could've been better"
Chris S, 28 Décembre 2017

Hotel was overbooked, rooms were not available even though we had reservations 9 months in advance. Some rooms had plumbing and electrical issues. Hotel needs work both mechanically and professionally

"Beware of the shower!"
lauriet529, 21 Décembre 2017

The hotel would have received a nice review from me- if only I had not had a need to shower. I have seen horror films with showers in better shape than this! The mold growing on what grout was there grew in such a variety of colors that one thought of rainbows in green meadows. The handicapped seat was a sight to behold with the rotting edges and the mold of many colors. While black may be aesthetically pleasing, it is hardly appealing when on the caulking around the hand grips of said shower. My all time favorite was the missing tile where you could see the rotting cement board behind. I don't think I have ever showered so fast- what a joy to know that someone with a disability can be so quick! Thank you Best Western for letting me know my full potential!

"Poor customer service"
omasusie, 21 Décembre 2017

While we were reading our newspaper in the lobby, the desk clerk answered his personal cellphone, placing the caller on speaker, continued to do his work. Three of us were hearing this “private” conversation which broadcasted complaints about working, profanity, and a weak attempt to tell caller that she was on speaker phone. At no time does the desk clerk shut off speaker! Upon entering our room, we smell a very strong odor of air freshener. My husband located the plug in and returned it to front desk. The clerk says that probably a smoker bought this device to cover up his or her violation to get away with not paying fine. Warning signs in parking lots regarding no liability risk if items stolen, vehicle damaged or towed away ( post a ticket in dash so you won't be towed). The breakfast was terrible. We spent $120. Not hospitable.

"Best Western Plus was a big minus"
stephaniebZ6385HY, 19 Décembre 2017

Staying here you get the feeling they are a few days away from going out of business. Your first impression is full trash cans and cigarette butt cans on your way in. Building is in need of new FF&E and a whole lot of customer service training. I will not stay here again unless they make some pretty big improvements.

"Great time!"
mdelamartre, 18 Décembre 2017

Convenient location to downtown St Paul and many attractions. We had a great time at the hotel with the Depot decor. Kids had fun in the pool and the free breakfast was exceptional. Would go back again.

"Nice rooms and friendly staff"
Kathryn R, 16 Décembre 2017

The rooms were clean and nice and the bed was very comfy. There is a nice breakfast area that serves standard fair. The lady looking over the breakfast was very sweet. There is a little bar area and a pool area that we did not visit but looked nice. We will be back.

"Not Your Typical BW"
Stu P, 12 Décembre 2017

Set in the old railroad maintenance complex, this one is a gem. On the other hand, the preservation of the history of the facility presented challenges for the developers. All in all, a comfortable room, good sleeping, but the layout is a bit of a challenge to negotiate. Very convenient location for those working or visiting the "Midway" neighborhoods of St. Paul. This is a DOG FRIENDLY location which was important to our selection. Staff was friendly and helpful... especially housekeeping and breakfast attendant.

"Great hotel for everyone!"
318joanmaried, 11 Décembre 2017

Outstanding service, top shelf staff, pleasant and well-appointed rooms, decent breakfast, free WiFi , free parking, plenty of amenities and VERY reasonable rates in this unique hotel housed in an historic train station. Love this place!

"Great in many ways!"
Margo B, 10 Décembre 2017

I got in really late (after midnight) and had my cat with me (so I had a bunch of stuff to bring in). The front desk person, Lynn, was really helpful and just plain kind. I was under a bit of stress and Lynn really helped to ease that. The indoor architecture is really cool and my room was great. I'll definitely stay here again!

"Cold room. Management didn't fix it. Cold 2nd night too."
davewP1737QP, 04 Décembre 2017

Heat didn't work the first night. Told desk about next day, they said they'd fix it. They didn't. Cold the second night. Hallway was warmer than the room. Breakfast cold and bland. The neighborhood seemed okay.

"Noisy!"
mcman90, 03 Décembre 2017

Our room was above an exit door near the pool. A group would gather outside the door smoking and yelling at each other past midnight. We asked to move, but the desk manager told us no other rooms were available. I called the desk to complain about the noise and was told the group was advised to keep the noise down. This didn't last long, and once again I called the desk and was told it would be taken care of. This time the police were called and the group moved inside, but still yelling and slamming doors. This is supposed to be a smoke free hotel, but the hallways stink with smoke and apparently, management is ok with this. Will never stay here again!

"Trip for Dog at Vet Hospital"
shawnl424, 12 Novembre 2017

I am very pleased that this hotel allows pets. My little 4 month old lab had a little accident and they totally understood and were very friendly about it! The staff was great! I CANNOT believe people don't use the full service bar right off the lobby and breakfast area?! They have a nice variety of snacks that you can order at the bar plus they have normal happy hour drinks and such! Anyone who stays there, use the bar to relax at night because they have a tv and some nice sitting in there! The atmosphere is great there! I LOVE the old school looking nostalgic look of the hotel on the inside. The kids loved the pool, hot tub, and we enjoyed the sauna. GREAT HOTEL!!

"Excellent Pet Friendly Hotel"
jeffreyj173, 11 Novembre 2017

Facility was excellent and staff was oustanding! Facility was centrally located in downtown St. Paul with easy access to excellent dining and other activities. Primary purpose for the stay was to take a pet to University of Minnesota Vet Med Clinic. The hotel was an easy and quick drive from the Clinic. The hotel staff was outstanding and very accommodating with regard to my sick pet.

"Parking lot not secure - vehicle broken into within 30 minutes of arrival"
stephencY50IR, 08 Novembre 2017

Vehicle was broken into within the first 30 minutes of arrival. Hotel staff acted as if this was a normal occurrence at their location. Incident report was filled, but refused to provide us a copy. Told Manager needed to do that and they weren't there. Left information for manager to contact us. Heard nothing.

"Average Stay"
Jan B, 06 Novembre 2017

This property did not offer any "wow" factors. Everything was just "average". I was expecting more from a historic hotel. Hotel options were the standard hot and cold items. Beds were comfortable. Room temperature could be varied from 65-75 degrees.

"Meets our needs good value"
O1325OArobertb, 01 Novembre 2017

Our son lives only 1 mile from The BestWestern we stay here 4 times a year good value for us. The pool is clean and well maintained. Helpful to have a bar inside the hotel. Breakfast is great for free and is always ready early

"Good service"
brenday747, 25 Octobre 2017

I have been to this hotel many times and the service is always excellent. Being located in an old train station adds a lot of charm! It is pretty clean but starting to get a little worn around the edges. I will stay there again.

"Great room, clean, great staff, only a few drawbacks"
Christie M, 22 Octobre 2017

Pros: Great room, Great staff, everything was super clean. We love that the hotel was centrally located to everywhere we wanted to go in St. Paul. Cons: They have no recycling program at all. TV had no guide, so you had to channel surf, and each channel change was really slow. Windows don't open, due to needing to keep things historic. (?)

"Cool building, friendly service, but won't stay again due to other issues."
Alyson L, 18 Octobre 2017

I have stayed in this hotel three times in the past year due to it's convenient location close to my daughter's college. It is very interesting building and all of our interactions with staff have been positive; front desk staff is super friendly and accommodating and the woman who works at the breakfast each morning is just lovely. Unfortunately, there are inconsistencies and problems in this hotel that make me unwilling to return. During our second visit, there was a strange smell in the room that we couldn't identify. The beds have always been comfortable but the pillows are strangely small. Housekeeping was hit or miss; sometimes the room seemed clean at first glance but if you peeked behind furniture (in search of outlets, of which there were very few) it really wasn't. There was a mysterious stain on the seat cushion of the upholstered chair that made me not want to sit there. There were no tissues in the room during our last stay. Housekeeping forgot to give us a bathmat. The water pressure in our room was awful; I was in the shower for nearly half an hour because it took so long to rinse shampoo and conditioner out of my hair. The pressure in the sink was poor as well. During certain visits the Wi-Fi was great, during the most recent it was extremely weak. I always seek out hotels with free breakfasts, but this one was disappointing at times - although I'll reiterate that the breakfast attendant works very hard and is so friendly and accommodating. During our second visit, the waffle and pancake makers were absent and the breakfast felt quite limited, just eggs and sausage every day (never bacon) and then breads/muffins/cereals. Yogurt comes from a machine and is overly sweet; it would be better to have a variety of individual yogurts as I have seen at most free breakfasts in other hotels. Again, the staff was great and the new general manager (also a lovely guy) told us that there are renovations being done in many of the rooms. Hopefully they address some of the issues, but for now, we will seek out an alternate hotel for our next trip to St. Paul.

"Rooms shabby and not cleaned"
sunny132017, 14 Octobre 2017

Garbage had old vodka bottle in it, there was stuff in the refrigerator, the drapes facing the pool would not close. Only conditioner given in bathroom. Cool concept hotel but rooms on shabby side. Liked the depot part, the rest not so much.

"Historic train station motif- quite charming"
Don. T, 12 Octobre 2017

Our room was perfectly comfortable, large enough, good bed, good lighting, clean. If all we had wanted was a bed for the night, I would have given the place a higher rating. However, we gathered there with extended family and used the public spaces which were way too cold. The staff, especially those who helped us out at breakfast, were great. Breakfast was dandy with all the items one has come to expect from hotel breakfasts: eggs, meat, muffins, English muffins, cereal etc. The downside being eating off paper plates with plastic utensils. I always find this choice unfortunate. One other thing that was definitely disappointing was the bar/restaurant. Here again, a plastic cup for a margarita? Really? And although a selling point in our booking this place was an in-house restaurant, to call it a restaurant is indeed misleading. There were limited snacks available but nothing that could be called a meal. To summarize, the room was comfortable, and the staff was helpful. Just don't book if you are counting on warm lounge space or a true bar or restaurant.

"Price Gouging"
kingcareking, 11 Octobre 2017

Staying at this hotel is a pretty good experience unti you go to check out. I booked a suite which later didn't need so got rebooked into 2 bed queen. When I checked out they were still charging me for the suite at $179. Don't you think I would have stayed in the suite had I known you were going to charge me that price? Da. Anyway, be sure to ask lots of questions...just saying.

"Disappointed"
Y5028KAbethh, 09 Octobre 2017

Great location. In need of significant renovations. Dark, dingy, old and rundown. Very nice staff but a poor value for the money. Will find a different hotel for our next visit. Charming building. Sadly, it hasn't been cared for

"Good staff, property needs improvement"
anthonydS1908WI, 07 Octobre 2017

Staff is very helpful and courteous. Property is charming and impressive, a re-purposed train serving building. However, the rooms are in need of repair and upgrade. The window and shower curtains are stained, the grout on the bathroom floor needs to be cleaned. The bench in the roll-in shower is broken. There is no lighting for the desk and the Wi-Fi is unusable.

"Great breakfast"
Joan A, 05 Octobre 2017

In a remodeled train station, the Best Western Como Park has plenty of atmosphere. The breakfast is great with several hot options including scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, and sometime pancakes. Parking is free and convenient. Area is convenient.

"Great Place to stay."
ericaL7892YQ, 03 Octobre 2017

Good location. Very unique facility retro-fitted into an old railroad building-very cool! Safe area. All the amenities. Very clean. Very helpful staff. Facility is very well maintained. Pool, Hot Tub, Sauna, bar, what more could you need!

"Good location, interesting place"
marpau1, 02 Octobre 2017

The hotel was formerly a train depot, so the entrance is not your typical hotel lobby. The front desk staff are friendly and welcoming. They have kept a lot of the original features which makes a change from your usual hotel corridors. They do accept pets and unfortunately we had a yappy dog in the room next to us. The ventilation system is also very, very loud and not easily turned off. The rooms are a nice size and have a microwave and refrigerator. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean.

"Fall leave tour/Marithon"
S8508ZYsharonk, 02 Octobre 2017

There is so much to do in the Twin Cities and the Como Best Western is a great location to stay at and commute to many events. Such nice staff. They make me feel at home. The rooms are super clean and the pool area and exercise room is staffed with clean towels and tables and chairs. Lots of parking and easy access to the hotel and lobby made my stay very enjoyable.

"Unique Hotel in Train Depot"
Ruthie A, 25 Septembre 2017

Unique hotel in a former train depot is charming. Huge rooms, great pool (including sauna, normal pool, kiddie pool, and hot tub), and awesome breakfast area. I would definitely recommend for the great ambiance and service.

"Best Hotel, wise choice for us"
1953boomer, 25 Septembre 2017

I am a railroad brat, having grown up around trains, so this hotel in what looked like an old train depot, was exceptional. Care was taken to create an atmosphere that was pleasing and relaxing, and fun for an old roady like me. The rooms are large and clean, clean, clean, and the beds are exceptionally comfortable. Dogs are allowed, but the grounds are not cluttered with artifacts. I would go again in a minute and probably will.

"It's an old train station!"
ossuary2016, 22 Septembre 2017

This is an interesting hotel, having previously been a train station. The exterior features several huge double doors on hand-wrought iron hinges. The exterior in general is a bit plain, but the interior has tried to preserve some of the original features of the station. The lobby floors still have the original train tracks running through. Looking up to the ceiling, the beautiful, original wooden beams and trusses are In plain sight, adding a nice feel to the space. The staff, nspecifically Bo (with the bo) is excellent. He addressed an issue we had with our room temperature, and was unrelenting in his quest for a fix, which he did find. The hotel is pet-friendly, and as with other guests, we were in Minneapolis so that our dog could have her 6-month check-up at the Veterinary Hospital. There is a $10 per day fee to have an animal in your room, one of the lower charges we have seen in our travels. I still resent paying this fee, but it is now a fact of life when travelling with a pet. The fee at Como Park is the lowest we have ever seen. The hallways feature what I believe to be original brick-work arches and some original wooden beams at various points. The room, while not reflecting the railway theme, looked new. Everything was clean and new-looking. The bed was particularly comfortable. The one detractor in our visit was the breakfast. There was little variety, the presentation of the food, and the eating area was disappointingly small and plain. I found cereal, toast, orange juice, and mild. That is my usual, so I personally was satisfied. However, the limited selection and space in general were not up to other hotels. This is our only negative for our stay. I would recommend the Como Park to anyone in Minneapolis.

"Dog friendly"
N163FXnicolet, 14 Septembre 2017

We unfortunately have had to travel with our dog to bring her for specialized veterinary care at the U of MN a couple times over the past few years and choose to stay at this Best Western because it's close to the vet hospital, dog friendly and an all around great place to stay.

"Nice stay"
Susan T, 11 Septembre 2017

Rooms are clean, beds are comfortable, staff helpful and friendly, quiet environment and breakfast was good. I picked this spot as it had the best reviews for hotels in lower price range. Would stay here again if in the area.

"State Fair Delight"
Harlan O, 06 Septembre 2017

This hotel was absolutely perfect for our family during the MN State Fair - they provide a GREAT shuttle service - super breakfast & clean rooms!! The staff was friendly and very helpful - the hotel was quiet at night & I will certainly recommend it!!

"Como Park Hotel"
James G, 05 Septembre 2017

Unique hotel worth visiting and staying. Area was former railroad yard and has been converted to a mix of condos and light business entities. Railroad tracks and big doors still remain as an interesting feature of the hotel. Close to Minnesota State Fairgrounds.

"What a unique and peaceful experience!"
240janetf, 01 Septembre 2017

My father was a railroad man. It is wonderful to stay in a place that feels so comfortable. The staff really does try to accommodate you with little extras that make the stay very enjoyable....going out of their way to see that your family is taken care of.

"MEH."
Travis A, 01 Septembre 2017

Positives: the breakfast attendant was SO friendly and totally great. Her and I chatted for a while. The overnight front desk gentleman was just as great---trying to remedy a situation and was very helpful, and tried to do what he could. Those 2 staff were amazing. Otherwise-- The negative---We got to the hotel and the room was not cooling down after setting the "air conditioning" to the lowest setting. We asked how we could maybe figure out the A/C. Some guy at the desk said he opened the "dampers" all the way and it would be cold soon. I asked for a fan and was met with "I literally just opened your dampers 100% and you will be freezing in 20 minutes." We then went to the fair, returned, and the room was warmer than when we left. (Thats when the awesome night front desk really tried to help us out but the rooms were HOT.) Also---there isnt any vending machines where the hotel floorplans we were given said there was vending. And--at around midnight, there was a door we found on our search for the vending machines that was propped open to an exit that looked as if it should have been locked. If you need a place to nap after the fair---this place could do as a last resort. Otherwise---skip it---get an uber to a downtown or Roseville hotel. This one is a bit of a let down.

"State Fair"
semi872, 31 Août 2017

This is a great place to stay if your going to the State Fair, very close and free shuttle to and from the fair. Rooms were clean and staff was all very friendly! I will stay here again if I need a room in the area.

"State Fair"
tntharoldson, 30 Août 2017

Even though the pricing at this hotel tends to be higher and more restrictive during state fair season, it's close to the fairgrounds and is a pleasant place to stay. Wendy serves a good breakfast and Joe at the front desk was cheerful and helpful. The shuttle drivers were always kind and very accommodating to passengers requiring extra assistance. It was extra helpful this year to have a bigger shuttle...great improvement!! We are associated with an attraction at the fair and we will book again soon for next year.

"Been Staying Here for 14 Years!"
Kemis3, 22 Août 2017

I've been staying at this hotel for 14 years when I'm visiting this side of the Twin Cities. I fell in love with it because it was an old train depot. My Grandpa loved trains, so staying here reminds me of him. They have upgraded the facility in the last several years. The wifi is excellent, and the staff is always very helpful.

"Neat hotel"
elizabethj515, 22 Août 2017

I picked this hotel being it was close to Como Zoo and I'm glad I did. Teenagers were able to swim and we had breakfast in the morning before we headed for home. Wifi worked well for the teenagers. Separate sink area from the shower/toilet was nice.

"Pool area"
jsavings01, 13 Août 2017

Rooms and the rest of the hotel is fine. I travel here every 6 months and the hot tub is always closed. After driving for 8 hours and looking forward to enjoying the tub, very disappointed to have it closed down once again. I left for dinner and it was working, returned changed and it was closed.Someone has probably spilled a pop in it. There needs to be cameras for the front desk as well as a speaker so that the front desk is aware that there is food in the pool area and doesn't have to check on people. Guests can not read signs and having a foreign substance in the water closes the pool area down. I'm sure other travelers are just as disappointed when this happens and it seems to happen frequently. This needs to be fixed. A sign is not fixing the problem.

"Great place to stay when in the twin cities"
C8747VRcharlesa, 13 Août 2017

We've been here three times and when we return to St. Paul from Ohio we will stay here again. After a long 15 hour trip it's nice to know what to expect of your hotel. The staff is pleasant and helpful, and the breakfast is complete and not just coffee and pastries. The rooms are large and clean, and the decor is a unique railroad design. There is plenty of room to walk your pet and it is in a quite neighborhood with the exception of the occasional passing train.

"Customer"
sherrip870, 11 Août 2017

Hotel was neat, clean, employees were friendly and helpful location to my class was within walking distance which is the main reason I choose this hotel location, Nice to have the bar with food items.

"Very happy with this hotel"
Kathy M, 10 Août 2017

We will definitely stay here again! The rooms were clean. The shower was exceptional and the breakfast was very good. Free parking that was easy to access and just steps from the door was an added bonus.

"Don't stay here !!!"
Wayne T, 08 Août 2017

I was double charged for the stay from 7-19-2017 to 7-26-2017; first by the travel agent "Agoda" $1127.55 for the reservation, then, after I checked out, I found out from my credit card statement that Best Western Plus Como Park Hotel charged me $968.71 again !!!! Don't stay here !!!

"Everything was great except the fitness center"
Kerri L, 07 Août 2017

My only mark against this hotel was the fitness center. It shows they have more than just cardio equipment which was my reason for booking however the equipment was extremely old, didn't work property and/or was broken. For someone who doesn't like to drive around an unfamiliar city a fitness center in-house is a huge factor for booking a hotel with one.

"Will never stay here again"
M G, 07 Août 2017

Arrived to check in, no one was at the desk for 15 min. Temp control in rooms is awful, we were warm all night. Bfast options are very limited and the same every day. Needed assistance twice during stay and again, no one was at the front desk. No option for roll away bed. Poor security in hotel, no cameras on floors and it's in a very industrial neighborhood. All in all, we were very disappointed in our stay. Not worth the price.

"Great value, better service"
Rob D, 01 Août 2017

Great place start to finish! Unique for sure. Could see some not understanding the concept if they don't know the buildings history. Once you figure it out how could you not appreciate it? Little kids in nearby rooms where never heard in our room. Nice and Quiet!

"Has been Run Into The Ground"
Dennis B, 01 Août 2017

We have stayed here many times WILL NOT be back. Mystery stain on the wall by the toilet paper . Faucet was loose. Closet doors fell off. A/C was loud. Bed Sagged in the middle felt like we were in a bowl. Save your money.

"A nice place to stay for a conference or to be near Como Park"
marilynnv2017, 31 Juillet 2017

We stayed at this hotel due to it's proximity to Hamline University, where our conference was being hosted. We found that we were walking distance as well from the lovely Como Park. The hotel is unique as it is built in an old brick train depot. It's been well designed to accommodate a hotel. My room was on the first floor, looking out the back of the hotel at some old trains on display, it was much nicer than looking inward at the courtyard of the hotel, as we saw with one of our coworkers. We had an issue with one of our door locks not working well, and maintenance fixed it while we were out at dinner, and it worked perfectly after that. The room was nice and clean, no weird smells. Lighting could be a bit better, and maybe update the color scheme, but all in all just fine. The breakfast in the morning is nice and fresh, but it's do it yourself waffles, etc. very typical of most hotels these days. Staff at the front were very nice and helpful. We used the shuttle and the driver Rudy was great. The bartender made great drinks, so all in all a very nice place to have a conference. When I go on vacations, I like to stay in a little bit higher price bracket, but for this price range, I would say you get a great value!

"Standard "
Paul M, 29 Juillet 2017

It's a very cool building that was an old train repair depot. You can still see the old tracks. My room was clean, I had strong water pressure in the shower. My room was a bit warm but ok. The building has a bit of an old smell to it. For some reason finding the main entrance is not intuitive. It's on the long side down Bandana Blvd. Average stay.

"Disappointing in general"
fenwayman, 27 Juillet 2017

I stayed one night at the Best Western Plus Como Park Hotel and while the stay was adequate, it was also nothing special. Like others, I enjoys looking at the hotel's railroad depot bones, which were fascinating. I was given a huge room overlooking the pool, which was mostly an enclosed area. While there's nothing inherently wrong with overlooking an pool and not having a view of the outdoors, I'd have preferred to look out outside and I wish I'd been asked about this at check-in. It was difficult to find the room most of the signage guiding guests to individual rooms did not list my room; I have never actually had to use the map of the hotel that the front desk provided me at any hotel until this one. I expect a few basics from a hotel: a clean room that feels safe, is comfortable, and provided an adequate bathroom. The worst aspect of the stay was the shower, which was unacceptable. I had two choices: hot water and a literal dribble of water pressure, or luke warm water with just enough shower pressure to rinse off soap and shampoo. The room was clean and comfortable. I cannot evaluate the breakfast for others, but will say that for me, who has to eat gluten free food, it was effectively unavailable, in spite of a small sign that said gluten free options were available. The only option was one of the Chex cereals, but I was not actually confident that the cereal available was not Wheat Chex and I decided to forgo it. Even if I had felt safe eating it, they serve the cereals in these upside down jars and you turn a crank to get the cereal out of the jar into a bowl. The crank shredded the cereal into crumbs. The staff at check-on were friendly enough, and the room was clean, quiet, and easy to sleep in. The internet worked flawlessly and was fast.

"Great place to stay"
karensE5022HG, 25 Juillet 2017

Great location, staff was very polite and helpful. We like the location of this hotel because it is close to the event we attend every July! Our car club reserves a block of rooms here every year because it is so handy!

"Wonderful place to stay, especially for families!"
318joanmaried, 18 Juillet 2017

Housed in a restored train depot, many features of original structure have been maintained. It's open, bright, spacious, unique and most welcoming! My room opened up to inside "patio" area near the pool, and so it was ideal for entertaining family. Service was good. Breakfast was adequate but get there early if hotel is near capacity as it gets crowded and you might have to wait for staff to replenish supplies. Location is in industrial area, but lots of places to walk, eat and shop are located within walking distance. I'll be going back as family live in nearby apartments - it was perfect for our visit!!!

"Old Train Workshop"
mk_dfw, 17 Juillet 2017

The fact that this hotel used to be an old train workshop makes it a very cool historical building. They kept the original wood beams, and having the breakfast area on top of the old tracks makes it even more cool. The staff was all very friendly and helpful, particularly Lynn, the staff member who worked at breakfast time. She was really suite and thoughtful. For our purposes, this was a great location, in the middle of all the places we needed to go to. It's a short distance north of the airport but it's very quiet - didn't hear airplane noise at all.

"Never book a wedding block here!"
hsa62, 16 Juillet 2017

We had a horrible experience with the Best Western. We reserved a block of rooms for our wedding guests and received a contract stating the price and number of rooms. VERY long story short, they did not honor our contract, did not give us the number of rooms or price we had previously discussed and had in writing, and messed up almost all of the individual reservations. Many of our family members had to find other hotels when they arrived, as their rooms were given away. The management claimed that families reserved the wrong weekend or reserved the wrong night, even when they had their printed confirmation with them. Overall, it was truly a disaster. The rooms were fine, but the service was horrible.

"Everything u need at the end of a long day"
Cummins89, 14 Juillet 2017

Loved the bar with food attached to the small pool area. We had a pool side room that was SUPER quite. We couldn't here anyone in the pool area when the patio door was closed. The bar and food were great!

"GREAT EXPERIENCE"
maryloug144, 13 Juillet 2017

My granddaughter and I stayed 3 nights at this BW motel. This motel was uniquely designed. Breakfast area was roomy and the food was great. The pool was warm and relaxing. Our room was very nice and clean. The location was in a quiet area. We enjoyed our stay and will be back again.

"Neatly transformed railroad station to Hotel"
ChristelA-J, 12 Juillet 2017

This was our second time that we stayed at the hotel. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is very convenient and has many things to choose from. It has the indoor pool and hot tub that when looking up you still see what the building used to be, the train station. Evidence of the old train station is found too in the old rails that are still visible on the ground. We think it's a good place to stay for either business or family

"Shockingly disorganized"
cbrand, 09 Juillet 2017

We stayed at the Best Western Como while in St. Paul for a wedding. Multiple wedding guests had issues with their hotel reservations. Some had their rooms given away. Some did not have the quoted rate honored. Some had rooms reserved for the wrong days (our problem). In my mind, however, the biggest issue was that Best Western Como Park did NOTHING to rectify the problems even when documentation (emails, signed contracts etc) was produced showing that the hotel was in error. Management was dismissive. The hotel refused to help in any way claiming that the hotel was full, there was nothing they could do, and really...it wasn't their problem (which it clearly was). Guest were not offered any sort of compensation and were left scrambling last minute to find places to stay. For those of us who did have rooms at the hotel, things were not much better. Rooms were small and cramped. Because of the layout of the hotel, it was extremely inconvenient to get from our car to our room. One morning the electricity in the breakfast area was not working for over an hour. This meant no toast/waffles and the hot prepared food went cold. The hotel did nothing to fix the problem. Finally, my husband's cousin, went to find the circuit panel and flip the breaker. Electricity back on, but then rather comically, the clean up crew came in almost immediately to clear breakfast. Long and short? People did not get to eat. This hotel is very poorly run. I recommend finding another hotel if you are going to be staying in St. Paul.

"No room for us (even though we had a reservation)!"
Julie B, 08 Juillet 2017

We recently returned from a trip to St. Paul for our nephew's wedding. A block of rooms had been reserved for wedding guests of which we were a part. We made our reservations 6 months prior to the wedding and had emails with the reservation confirmation. None of this helped in getting us a room! Upon our arrival, we were told that our room had been reserved starting the previous night and since we didn't show up, they gave our room away. We were told there were no available rooms for the nights we had planned to stay. To make a long story short, we were not with the rest of the wedding party and had to find a hotel on our own that was 5 miles away. The silver lining to this story is that the Courtyard Marriott in Roseville had a suite that was able to accommodate our entire family and so we only needed one hotel room instead of the two we had reserved at the Best Western. Buyer beware when making plans to stay at the Best Western!!

"Visit to St Paul"
Ken B, 08 Juillet 2017

Two rooms. Two couples. Family visit to St Paul. When we need a hotel in the Twin Cities this is where we usually stay. We can get to anywhere we need to go and it is easy to get to. Hotel staff has always been friendly and attentive. The hotel appears somewhat dated but it is clean and comfortable. Price is very reasonable. Great value for the cost.

"A nice surprise"
Michael L, 06 Juillet 2017

The location is great, close to Como park and the State Fair. Reasonable prices, clean, lots of space, nice people and free breakfast! Such a nice room and very friendly people at the breakfast table,

Our room was clean and bed was comfortable. Staff very friendly. However water pressure very low so no cold to brush teeth and had to wait awhile between flushing toilet so getting ready with a family wasn't great. Breakfast food was good but staff continually had a hard time replenishing it so people were always waiting (we stayed a week).

"Will stay again and recommended to everyone"
smurf21882, 27 Juin 2017

Very professional and friendly. The staff is truly amazing. The only complaint I would have and it's not really anything anyone can do is we would lose water pressure while taking a shower. But not enough to complain about. Still worked fine. Our section of the building was built in 1911. Yep the old your gonna have some quirks! Will stay again! Loved it! We stayed for the back to the 50s weekend

"Neat Heritage Building"
KesleyMorriso, 16 Juin 2017

Our three night stay was good. The building itself is beautiful inside and out. Rooms are clean. Breakfasts were good however, the same thing every day which could get old. Similarly, the 'lounge' is only open for 5 hours a day which means guests go else where.

"GOOD BANG FOR YOUR BUCK"
711beverlys, 13 Juin 2017

Reasonably priced, convenient to the business I was doing, easy to get in and out of, restaurants and entertainment close by, in-room internet was speedy, breakfast staff were friendly, professional and neat in appearance. This is a great value for the money.

"Stay"
melaniesZ6636CN, 12 Juin 2017

Our three day stay was great. It was close to the fair grounds. Where our event was taking place. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean. Breakfast had many selections and was plentiful.

"clean and friendly"

"A return stay for Grandson's birthday party."
David E, 31 Mai 2017

This stay was just as great as the many past stays. We live about a day away from our family and when an event happens we stay at the Como Park Best Western. We stayed as our Grandson was having his 4th birthday party and we sure enjoyed the stay. The party was so fun and the kids sure enjoyed the pool. Our two daughters and their families came over too and it turned into a great family get together for all. The BW is so home like it is always comfy. We enjoy our stay and would recommend to all.

"Just okay"
valleylight, 16 Mai 2017

My husband and I spent 4 nights at this hotel in the Como Park area of St. Paul. The hotel room was clean and fairly comfortable although we had to tell the front desk that the air conditioning needed to be turned on as it was in the 80's outside. The room smelled a bit like it had been smoked in though it was a nonsmoking room. We only had 3 pillows for the first night as the hotel couldn't find any more. They did find another one the next day. They seemed stingy with towels, though I didn't request any. My in laws were in a room for handicapped guests. They said that the thing that really bothered them (as they are not readily mobile) was that the telephone is across the room and not next to the bed. In addition, I was annoyed by the hotel outside door not being handicapped accessible. It's darn hard to pull a door open, hold it, and then swing a wheelchair inside. Folks at the front desk were all very friendly and helpful. I did eat the breakfast twice and it is free. There was a good selection of items, I liked the coffee, but the eggs and bacon were just not very good. Eggs were fake and bacon was super thin. I won't stay here again.

"Wonderful Place"
636darlal, 15 Mai 2017

Loved the history and quality of the place . It was close to Como Park and Ordway Theatre. Its proximity to area we wanted to stay in and visit was very helpful. We will stay at this location again and recommend it to our friends and family.

"Good Value in Historic Train Station Setting "
Deltraveler75, 07 Mai 2017

This is a wonderful hotel cleverly set in a historic train station. In the area of Como Park. Very pleasant staff - the sweet breakfast server is so pleasant and helpful! Very large and pleasing, as well as interesting, lobby area. Nice included breakfast, although the serving are was on the tight side. Room was clean and well-maintained. It needed more electrical outlets. Bathroom so small, and the shower was cheap plastic that flexed when you touched it. Shuttle service within 5 miles radius. Overall though, a great stay, and we would stay here again!

"Friendly staff, historical setting, good breakfast"
189candacef, 06 Mai 2017

The hotel is a renovated train station. The hotel has a pool, a sauna, a jacuzzi, and a small gym. Breakfast food was way above average. We would stay there again. We would recommend the hotel to others.

"Business Trip"
davidrR8838SF, 05 Mai 2017

The Staff was excellent and hotel was very nicely decorated. The upgrade to a suite was very nice and was a nice perk. We would stay there again when in area and highly refer it to family, friends, and business associates.

"Love this hotel"
F1500CEambers, 04 Mai 2017

Staff went above and beyond. I stayed for business but would definitely return for leisure. Was close enough to shopping and different food locations. Also a huge perk for me was that they still have a fridge and microwave in the rooms.

"nice place to stay near fairgrounds"
Claudia B, 02 Mai 2017

Clean, comfortable, and a good breakfast. Friendly staff. Off the main highway so no road noise. Unique old depot setting. Some pool side rooms. Convenient parking. Lounge area with lite snack options. Small store with beverages, snacks, and microwavable meals.

"Beautiful and Fun Hotel in an old train station"
tomasinau2017, 30 Avril 2017

Rooms are average to poor. The beds are very firm and the room was hot, but the service was excellent and the common areas are really cool. Breakfast was very good! That was probably the highlight besides the hotel being in an old train depot.

"our choice!"
240janetf, 23 Avril 2017

The setting is wonderful...love the steam train. Breakfast has many choices and is delicious. Staff are very attentive. Our choice for a clean, friendly place to stay! It is an easy place to base your trip out of between St. Paul and Minneapolis.

"Great hotel, we will be back"
C8747VRcharlesa, 21 Avril 2017

We brought our blind dog, Sochi, to the University of Minnesota to be treated for a tumor in his larynx. Sochi has had 2 brain tumors removed at the UMN and it's been 3 yrs. We were at a different hotel and it was so noisy and there was only a tiny strip of grass behind the hotel for him to go potty. Being blind and in a new place with all the noise Sochi had a seizure from all the stress. We called the Best Western after our vet at the UMN told us about the Como Park Hotel. Everyone was so wonderful to us. They even talked to Sochi everytime they saw him. Sochi gets stressed being blind and in new places. With the tumor in the throat it isn't a good idea to give him anything because it will slow down his breathing. At the Como Park Hotel we didn't need to because he was stress free. The noise was gone and we could walk Sochi in his stroller all over the hotel all hours of the night and he would calm down. They had lots of space to walk Sochi in the courtyard between buildings and in front of the building. The breakfast was great every morning. The rooms are huge with lots of space. Customer service was over the top. The small bar has great lady who always was so kind to us. The food and service at the bar is great. We will be staying here again when we come out for Viking games and trips to the University of Minnesota. I called the University of Minnesota to have them add Best Western Plus Como Park Hotel, Saint Paul to their list of local hotels that are pet friendly for pet owners like us that need place to stay close to the UMN. Just a real different looking hotel with a lot of history and looks. Only 7 mins for UMN.

"Hotel With Character"
Y265GLstephanieb, 10 Avril 2017

We were in town for a regional gymnastics meet. The location was very close to the meet venue. We appreciated the free parking, the breakfast was very good and loved all of the character in the hotel! Thank you!

"Bring your own food and shower somewhere else."
juliesH7347HS, 10 Avril 2017

This is my second time staying at this location. First experience was a little better than typical BW. Nice breakfast, good location, clean pool, etc. Only drawback was the lack of accurate heat/ac system due to the historical building. Something that is understandable. But this stay is terrible. 1. The shower has ABSOLUTELY no water pressure. You either get a scalding shower and no pressure or ice cold water and minimal water pressure. So after showering for an additional 15 minutes longer than usual (in order to rinse the soap off), you now stand in your own filth. The tub doesn't drain either! And the toilet... not made for a room of four adults. Make sure you hold the lever down or it doesn't flush. But make sure you do it twice. Ok, so now you are showered and you go to the "train depot" for breakfast. Lots of other patrons, but still enough seating. That is the only thing there is enough of. No eggs at all, some sausage that looks pertified, no plain creamer for the coffee. After seeing this, I went to the front desk spoke to one of two employees sitting in the back office and informed them of the lack of food. One woman responded without leaving her chair that someone was in the kitchen. I assumed that meant that someone was preparing more food. Well you know what happens when you assume... After waiting for 15 minutes for food or a person preparing the food to appear, we decided to hit a local fast food restaurant. Not happy at this point considering one of the reasons we picked this hotel is for the free breakfast. Not looking forward to the checkout process either. We have a ESA dog and I have already been charged the pet fee. Also, I am a Diamond Select rewards member. Their top level and at check in I am suppose to be offered a upgraded room for free and a thank you gift or points. I wasn't given or even offered any of these amenities. In fact they charged my husband $2.00 for a bottle of .50 water. I just hope that the management looks at their reviews and does something about the complaints.

"Best hotel in the area"
joanrC1307RS, 08 Avril 2017

We love this hotel stay there a couple of times a year . Great breakfast beds are amazing. We are never disappointed. Very convenient location if you are attending anything at fair grounds or Como Park.

"Wonderful!"
Michelle H, 04 Avril 2017

Wonderful hotel! Big room! Would definitely stay here again! Hotel used to be a train station. Very cool. Looks a little different from outside, but a very nice hotel and all of the staff were wonderful!

"Not coming back "
Waylon E, 27 Mars 2017

My family has been coming to this hotel for 11 years, since my mother moved to a nearby apartment. It has been getting worse each year we visit and we don't plan on returning. Usually its minor lack of upkeep and poor room conditions. But the convenience of the location has brought us back. This time was the pool. They had it closed all day to replace the lights that were out the previous night. When we were told the pool was ready, my three children and I all got chemical burns after about 20 min of swimming. We had no issues with that the previous night. Plus the lights stopped working again. Electrical issues and pools makes me nervous. I know this happens with pools, but this is the last straw, as they say. I would not recommend this hotel to my friends.

"Best Western Hotel rating"
jeffreyp297, 23 Novembre 2016

Hotel has a very unique and interesting decor, built inside an historic train maintenance building. Very fun looking at the big wood beams, exterior brick with special. Hotel is quiet, rooms are comfortable and clean. Breakfast was served, which is always appreciated. Good value for the price. I would stay here in the future.

"Perfect Spot, Location, Friendly Staff!"
Markynature, 22 Novembre 2016

We didn't know what to expect. We waned someplace with a pool for the kids, and close to the museum and zoo. This place was perfect. We ended up getting a poolside room and the kids had a great time. They have a bar with a good selection of beers. The breakfast in the morning was really one of the best complimentary breakfasts I've had. The Hotel itself is really cool, especially if you are a train enthusiast of just history buff. Do note that it is an old train station, so it might be a little chilly in the halls and pool area during the winter months. I would recommend it. The rooms are a bit dated, but very clean. There are plenty of places to have food delivered right to your room. We would definitely go back.

"Nice Property, Terrible Service"
Maripat01, 21 Novembre 2016

After driving from Chicago it took me literally 41 minutes to check into my hotel room! I had to wait at the Front Desk for 10 minutes to start with because the Front Desk Clerk was also the Bartender and was getting ice from in back and making a drink for someone. Then we were checked into a room that already had someone in it! We found out when we opened the door and the T.V. was on and open luggage was on the bed. By the time we got back to the Front Desk she said, oh yeah I'm sorry. Then we were checked into room with one king size bed. I was checking in clearly with a luggage rack and three young ladies here for a College visit, how would we fit in a single bed. When we came back down to the counter she stated that's how the reservation was. NO IT WAS NOT. I had the reservation confirmation CLEARLY stating the reservation I made. She refused to look up the confirmation number, she called someone and kept telling me to calm down when I was. In a attempt to make us look like we were problems?? I am a Director of Sales for a Hotel! She of course did not know that. As a FAVOR she put us in the room I reserved. I promptly called the Best Western Customer Care line when I got to the room and they CONFIRMED I indeed had the two bed reservation. It is Monday now and I have STILL NOT HEARD from the Hotel Manager. It is a lovely property, uniquely decorated, but GOOD LUCK with Customer Service and getting to your room!! They were not very busy over the weekend, and I think it is obvious why.

"Awesome Hotel "
Dave L, 20 Novembre 2016

My family and I stayed here for two nights. It is built in an old train repair building, which makes it even cooler. The staff was awesome, especially Wendy, the breakfast attendant. She was very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast itself was one of the better ones we have had on trips. There was waffles, pancakes, eggs, sausage and cereals etc. The room was a nice size and we had a patio door that led straight to the pool, very cool. It was pretty full, but we heard very little while in our room. We will definitely consider staying here again!!

"Cool old building near Como Zoo"
behmt, 04 Novembre 2016

Was looking for quick place to stay with a one day conference at Como Zoo & Conservatory. This place was the nearest. Price was a little high I thought for basic hotel, but the old depot building was pretty cool. Front staff person was fun and nice. Hotel room was pretty large with 2 queen beds. Couple lights didn't work in room and reported this next morning. You could only adjust temp by 5 degrees one way or the other - and if you wanted it cooler you needed to contact front desk. Got really warm at night. Not the quietest, could hear the room's TV next door to us early in morning. Breakfast was basic and just ok. Overall the hotel was good for the location and a neat concept to preserve an old building, but a basic Best Western overall.

"Cool looking Hotel"
Darrin G, 01 Novembre 2016

Great breakfast and a fun place to stay. the train motif was fun for the kids. the pool, hot tub, and sauna were clean and worked great keeping the kids busy. the rooms were large and the king bed was plenty firm. lots of pillows too.

"Nice Place to stay in Saint Paul"
TripleDRoadTripper, 29 Octobre 2016

I was in Minneapolis/St Paul for almost a week on one of my road trips. I am with the Best Western Rewards program so I stay with Best Western as much as possible. When looking at the hotels around the Twin Cities, Como Park was the only one where I could stay the whole week. I found out later that the Ryder Cup was being played that weekend. As it was, it turned out alright but a bit more pricey than I was hoping for. Having said that, I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. It is in an old railway station in a nice nieghbourhood. I had a single King Size bed and there was plenty of space. The room was a little cool and I found out later that the front desk controls the temp, I loved the shower and the other amenities in the room (i.e.internet, fridge, microwave ect.) were good. I did have an interior room and missed the natural light, but then again I did not spend much of my time there during the day time. My room was cleaned every day and I found the staff friendly and helpful. The breakfast area is airy and nice variety of foods and beverages. A nice place to start your day. The hotel is located close to a few major regional streets so I had no problem getting around. The Como Park Zoo is less than 10 minutes away and worth a visit. The 2 days I didn't feel like driving to supper, there is a nice pub/resturant (Gabe's) that is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. I will be returning to the Twin Cities and will definetly think about staying at the Best Western Plus Como Park.

"Excellent"
Samuel F, 16 Octobre 2016

This hotel is the best we have experienced for being receptive to the needs of people with disabilities. We love the historical setting. All the staff, even the kitchen and cleaning staff, were friendly and helpful. We will certainly be repeat customers.

"Great Surprise"
sonic1us, 13 Octobre 2016

It is hard to tell by websites sometimes when booking a hotel in an area your not familiar with and I couldn't tell about this one but wow I was surprised at the quality of the hotel. I would stay here again. The outside was a little hard to tell if I had the front doors or not. The amazing detail of the old train tracks was cool. They had free newspapers and coffee. Check in was a breeze. Once inside the charm was beautiful. They had the breakfast area and a lounge area. Plus cozy seating around the fenced in pool and hot tubs. The rooms will all accessed by an inside hallway which kept the noise down. We had a one story double queen bed that was comfortable. Our room had a ton of space. IF you want a temperature change you MUST call the front desk so they can FLIP the switch. We missed that at check in , it should be labeled in the room. Breakfast was awesome and exactly what we needed. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I would ask for a room not by the stairs.

"In town for Shriners Hospital"
Jodi J, 12 Octobre 2016

Our local shrine puts us up at this hotel every six months for our son's doctor visits. It is not a place I would book as it is a bit dated, but we are grateful for the complimentary hotel. In the hotel's favor, it has a nice little bar that mixes a GREAT Long Island Iced Tea. Breakfast in the mornings has lots of choices and the coffee is great. Front desk staff is always helpful and very friendly. Something that is a bit unusual is that in order to change the temp in your room, you have to call the front desk to change it for you.

"Short but Fabulous Stay"
Megan B, 11 Octobre 2016

Hotel was very cute and rustic looking. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful setting up cabs for multiple pick ups and recommended great places to eat. Hot tub was lovely and pool was very clean. Room was spacious, clean and had all that was needed. Breakfast had a large selection, however the breakfast time ended a little early, wish it went to 1030 instead of 930, and more fruit options would have been nice and less breads. I didn't bring my dog with me this time but loved seeing all the pups around and they were all well behaved.

"DAUGHTER IN HOSPITAL, FAMILY VISIT"
David E, 10 Octobre 2016

My wife and I have stayed many times at this BW Plus and have not been disappointed ever. The staff at the front desk and all have always been very helpful to us so we do not even check any other places. This is our stop. It is always clean and the beds are so comfy I can always count on a great night sleep. It is the same for my wife. We feel so relaxed with our stay. Even with our daughters surgery, we could relax. No worries about our stay.

"A Mix of Old and New"
Matthew J, 10 Octobre 2016

We've stayed at this hotel a few times and each has been a little different. This time we had a room with one king size bed. The bed was comfortable, room was clean and spacious. Parking is convenient and the ramp allows you to park close to the main door. Our room was about as far from the main door as you could get but we were there for a Marathon so a little walking was no big deal. Because the hotel is built inside an old train station there are some uneven floors and steps. If you have any mobility issues you need to request a handicap accessible room. Lots of the framing from the train station is visible and it gives the hotel a nice charm. Keep this in mind and you won't be disappointed. Breakfast was good with hot sausage & eggs along with waffles. There was a assortment of fruits, cereals and other items.

"Comfortable Night Stay"
Katie W, 07 Octobre 2016

Not only does this hotel provide a great environment and unique experience in an old train station, but the staff and amenities make it feel like home away from home! I was so excited by the uniqueness of the hotel's appearance and history, and the stay was just as wonderful!

"Not the quality expected"
scitchr55, 05 Octobre 2016

We stayed 3 nights at this location while visiting family. When we walked in the first night, everything was fine. The other two nights we were skimped on towels and and other small items. Breakfast not set up the first day until 15 or 20 minutes after their posted opening time. It was evident that some people could not wait and had to leave before most of the food was available. The breakfast does not compare to other equally priced hotels. The architecture is interesting since they used an old train station, but the doors don't close well and it was difficult to find the main entry.

"Satisfecha"
Martha C, 21 Septembre 2016

Siempre he recibido buen tratamiento en este hotel y es muy limpio. Es muy comodo para mi porque es facil de llegar y cerca de la oficina central donde trabajo. I have always received good treatment at this hotel and it is very clean. It is easy to get to and close to the main office of me employment where I come for staff meetings.

"Would recommend for excellent sleep"
Gregory B, 19 Septembre 2016

Bed is very comfortable. A/C OK. TV same as any other hotel...channel changing sooo slooow. Internet very good throughout hotel. Indoor pool looked really good--wished I had brought swim wear. Very few options for in-house dining. Microwave helped out here. Easy 1.5 mile walk to Como Zoo. Safe area. But if you wanted to bicycle, hotel should get Nice rental bikes because there is a bike station at zoo.

"Price Differential - Otherwise Excellent Hotel"
Linda C, 19 Septembre 2016

I was quoted one price by Best Western when I made the hotel reservations with their 800# and my final bill reflected another price stacked with taxes. I SPECIFICALLY asked the 800 operator if the price quoted reflected taxes and was told it did. We were on a tight budget and had I known the price would add almost $20 more to my bill, I would have looked elsewhere. The hotel was fun, the beds were comfortable, the staff was great. Ambiance was terrific. Definitely recommend. But the price should be nailed down in stone.

"Good place for stop over"
James W, 16 Septembre 2016

The hotel is located in an OLD Train repair shop building that has been very well done as a conversion to house the hotel within the original building walls. Very quite and the bar has good selection of drinks. The food needs to be stepped up, they have offerings but all cooked in toaster oven. Restaurants are not close by that we found. but they did tell us about a great steak house.

"Unique, clean, centrally located "
RoLo50312, 14 Septembre 2016

I was in St. Paul for the St. Paul classic bike tour. I wanted to stay somewhere reasonably affordable, nice, and easily accessible to microbreweries and the start of the ride at St. Thomas University. I also like that this is near Como Park and centrally located between Minneapolis and St. Paul. The hotel was unique in its design, and very clean. I was very pleased. I wanted to try out the hot tub after a long bike ride before the St. Paul classic but wound up staying out too late to have time for the hit tub! Comfortable bed. Very good experience.

"Girls weekend getaway"
Lesley S, 14 Septembre 2016

We stayed at this particular hotel because of how close it was to the state fair grounds. We arrived a little after check-in (3pm). I asked where I should park due to a full hotel. The lady told me to park in the ramp so we parked in the parking ramp. Little did I know the ramp she meant was just to the side of the building and really isn't a ramp. It is elevated parking sure. After parking in the wrong ramp and not being able to get into the building we call the front desk. We had to move our vehicles and park elsewhere ( elevated parking) Finally we got parked and went to our room( which was a challenge to find it was on the 2nd floor but no sign for an elevator. We found the elevator after asking got our stuff to the room and our key didn't work. We attempted a few times. I'm getting very upset. A lady opens our door from the inside and asks why we are trying to enter her room. Well it was our room on the keys we were given. So I had to return to the front desk and figure out if we would even get a room at this hotel. It turned out they took our room so they gave us there's. We got all settled and the next morning house keeping is wondering why we haven't checked out. ??????I will never stay here again. The pool is also warmer than the hot tub.

"Good business hotel for a few days"
grecognos, 14 Septembre 2016

If you have business in the area where the hotel is located this is the place where to stay. The rooms are good, the Internet is good, they have a good breakfast. The hotel is interesting also, it is located inside an old train depot. The neighborhood is a technology park , n ot too much to see. There is only one Restaurant near buy, walking distance that I would not recommend. It is better to take a CAB (approx. 10 minutes ride) to downtown Saint Paul to find a good restaurant. For work, is a good place to stay a few days.

"poor experience"
Brett R, 12 Septembre 2016

This is the email I sent to the Manager Good afternoon Mr. Gray, I was told by the lady at the front desk that you were my point of contact to address my concerns about our stay this weekend. First of all I am not the type of person that complains but feel that this warrants a note to you. On Friday I used my Best Western reward points to get a room at your location. While there we decided to spend an extra night. we were unable to stay in the room that we were initially booked in. That was not the problem at all. At approximately 9 am while I was in the shower house keeping came into the room unannounced without knocking or anything. My girlfriend was half naked getting ready for the day and he completely startled her. She then flipped over the dead bolt lock and less than 5 minutes later there was a second attempt at an unannounced room entry. I spoke with the desk lady about this and she said that she would take $20 off our nights stay which I appreciated. We then continued to switch rooms before going to the fair for the day. I accidentally left my swimsuit hanging on the back of the door of the first room. I checked with the desk twice and they were nowhere to be found. It was completely my fault for leaving my swimsuit there but thought that they would have been found in the lost and found. We left today feeling disappointed about our stay. I felt that our room should have been comped and I spoke with the desk lady about this and she gave me your card. Please let me know your thoughts concerning this. At this time I do not plan on writing a negative review. Thank you for your time. His response came back 6 days after and only after I went to the general complaint department. He took his employees word over ours. Terrible customer service.

"Sept 6-9, Business Trip"
Keith M, 10 Septembre 2016

Overall good. Staff Front Desk: These people work hard to make and give guest tremendous service. They are positive and very people oriented. Food quality at breakfast needs some modification. Eggs a bit watery.

"Baseball Junkie"
Ron S, 08 Septembre 2016

Was there for our last night of a four game series with the Twins before heading back to Canada. What a great way to turn an old train station into an interesting hotel concept. Great frontage with the locomotive and additional cars around the outside. Has a pool, hottub, lounge, business and fitness center. Great breakfast and very clean and well kept. Would definately stay there again.

"Such a Fun Place to Stay!"
Kathleen J, 07 Septembre 2016

We have stayed here two or three times a year and it is always a treat. It is a former train station and the lobby and breakfast area are designed to build on that history. It is so unique. The rooms are always very clean and the breakfasts - served out of a depot - are always delicious.

"Bandana Square St. Paul"
James G, 06 Septembre 2016

Unique, interesting setting in a restored rail yard. Low key, quiet, relaxed accommodations. The location is close to the State Fair grounds and Como Park. If able, both are accessible with long walks. Rooms are quaint, not small, but not large. Try it, you will like it.

"Interesting Historic Building"
Thomas Z, 02 Septembre 2016

Hotel is in a retrofitted steam locomotive repair shop. Interesting structure with a fascinating history. Room was clean and large enough not to feel cramped. Breakfast was free with stay, and the staff made sure I got food, even though they were about to end serving for the day.

"Love the hotel"
CadyWilliams, 01 Septembre 2016

I always love this hotel, even though it is on the price(r) side i always want to go back to this hotel. love the look of it, good breakfast. Shuttle to the state fair was nice to have. had some issues but not bad.

"Average Stay in nice neighborhood"
Megan T, 30 Août 2016

Very busy hotel during state fair because they advertise a "shuttle" system to and from State Fair. It's great when there is actually room for you, but many times we had to wait for the shuttle because they refuse to get another one during the busies time of the year. Shuttle Drivers were awesome though-best staff at the hotel was the shuttle drivers! Don't expect to change the temperature of your room either.

"Beautiful"
Jodi B, 22 Août 2016

This hotel is absolutely beautiful!! Well, if you like antique type of buildings. This hotel is the old train depo. The tracks still run through the building. Rooms are huge!! Breakfast is full of all sorts of different foods. The swimming pool and hot tub looked very inviting although we did not try them out. The entire hotel and grounds are clean and kept up. Staff during our stay were fantastic! Look at all of the pictures- this place doesn't disappoint!!!

"The place is really unique."
dianethomas2527, 18 Août 2016

We stay at the Bandana Square every two weeks. My Grandson has appointments at the Shriners Hospital. Our drive is about 5 1/2 hours. We usually see Lindsay when we check in and out. Lindsay is polite and informs us of attractions and things that might be going on. Wendy puts on an awesome breakfast in the morning. A great variety of foods. Wendy is always very polite and helpful also. Rooms are fine. Beds are comfortable. As busy as it was this last time, we heard no noise at all. After a long drive like that, it was very easy to relax when we got in our room. Would like to see a restaurant of some sort in the building.

"Would rate 3 1/2 stars if it were an option"
Bear-in-Vermont, 18 Août 2016

This Best Western is a bit dated, yet for us the stay was exactly what we needed/wanted. It was close to where we wanted to be, offered breakfast, was clean and overall quiet. Front desk folks were friendly and helpful, staff that attended to breakfast did their jobs nicely. Food levels got down a few times, but we were also not there at the crack-of-dawn daily. They did a good job restocking food. Really no issues on this. Room was clean a bit small but had a king sized very comfortable bed......SLEPT well. Room 103 just off on corner of the main hotel section. At first was worried it might be noisy but it truly wasn't..... Heard other guests complaining the hot tub wasn't hot enough or the room was this or that......in some ways I almost felt these folks were complaining to get an extra $20 off.....I can't speak about the pool or hoot tub, it wasn't of interest to me to go to or be in. Pet friendly, a few kids so it was busy at times, again no issue. Shower worked well, water pressure good, water hot for the shower. Refridge could have been a bit colder but come on.....not worth going to the front desk about..... All in all this place is 3 1/2 stars......better than AVERAGE......not quite "very good" BUT I'm NOT COMPLAINING......

"A below average stay after many years"
snickers28, 14 Août 2016

I have been putting my family up for over 10 years at this hotel, 1-2 times a year, plus encouraging friends to stay there when they visit. This has involved about $600-$800 of revenue for the hotel each year as there are multiple day stays. I booked a room as usual, although this time I had almost enough reward points to use and purchased some additional points to be able to obtain a standard room. The room we were given had a horrible paint smell and my eyes watered. The bed broke upon just sitting on it and we looked at the frame which turned out to be not suited for the bed. We also found a moldy piece of food under the bed and the mattress was stained on the side. The tray that goes inside the microwave was missing and there was only one garbage can. I was first assured the paint smell was just that but then when the other things happened, I was told that there had been a problem with the room that was supposed to be cleared up and the employee was told to "sell it anyway". The nice front desk person transferred us to a suite, which was better, but now instead of two beds we had a fold out couch to substitute for one bed that had sheets that didn't fit (just two flat sheets) and it was uncomfortable. We found that a plastic bag had been placed over the smoke detector. The chairs for the table were dusty and there were no supplies for the bar suite as well as water damage on the ceiling. There has been remodeling done but another guest also said it was noticeable that things are not up to par. Please note that this is not a "cheap" hotel in the summer. Corporate customer service stated these issues would be looked into. This is such a unique hotel and I am very disturbed at how some aspects have really been going down. This was noticeable last year too but never to the extent as this year, in particular for the first room. Hope things improve but I am wary for the moment. I gave the property a 3 instead of the 2 as I have a hard time giving negative reviews but unfortunately, the state of the first room was a little upsetting.

"Lovely visit"
Susan O, 12 Août 2016

My family enjoyed the train theme, the pool, kid's pool and hot tub. The outside area was lovely to walk around as it was nicely decorated with flowers in old train carts. I loved having 4 pillows on the comfy bed. The room had a good sized fridge and microwave. We had Green Mill delivery service for dinner. The area was quiet for a good night's sleep.

"Pleasant stay"
Daniel D, 06 Août 2016

My stay was a good one. Very fast check-in and check-out, and my room was quite large for just a basic one. The bed was comfortable, and the overall decor was quite interesting (in a good way) because it is an old converted train station.

"Great value"
JOHN R, 05 Août 2016

Very nice hotel in a great location for us--easy to get around St. Paul and Minneapolis. A hidden gem. Great value for the high quality. Very clean and comfortable room and nice pool and hot tub. Excellent breakfast, though serving area a bit narrow, though dining area was fine.

"Nice family hotel"
Patricia A, 03 Août 2016

Stayed here with 3 and 1 year old. Kiddy pool was great. Breakfast selection was good - pancake and waffle maker, yogurt bar. Eggs and breakfast meat. Cereal, toast and muffins. Comforters are really thick and warm - too warm for us. It would have been nice to have an inbetween blanket. Room to set up our pack -in-play. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Will stay here again. When baby was up early I could take him to the lounge/pool area while the rest of the family slept.

"Unique hotel"
Courtneybrynn, 02 Août 2016

This hotel is extremely unique and the staff is very friendly and helpful. It is a historic building that was a train station and the charm is definitely still there. I have been staying at this hotel since 2011. I recently stayed here in July 2016, previously it had been just less than two years since my last visit. I will say other than the U of M St. Paul campus and the state fair it is a bit out of the way from most things and the location is not that great. My other big concern is the price, I'm not sure it is any longer a great value. The hotel is clean and the rooms are up to date. I really enjoy that they all have bigger refrigerators now, but that is becoming more standard. The internet was quite slow. Breakfast was delicious and pool area nice.

"Trip Advisor"
Fran N, 01 Août 2016

I stayed at Best Western Bandana Square in St Paul, MN because of medical for my partner. Sometimes we both stayed and sometimes just I stayed. I have a dog - and this Hotel was great about accommodating my dog. Even has treats for them at the front desk. The staff are getting used to my visits!

"Hotel STay"
Camille S, 30 Juillet 2016

The hotel staff is wonderful, the outside is not what it seems until you walk inside the hotel and it was overwhelming. It was beautiful the way the layout is. Where the breakfast is located in an old train is pretty cool but kind of tight when a lot of people try to be in there. The breakfast was alright, except the fuse would blow if all four toasters are being used. The room was very spacious and clean. We were 15 minutes from the Mall of America and other locations.

"Mixed Feelings"
hlokty918, 29 Juillet 2016

Spent last night (Thursday) and have mixed feelings. Some things were really neat, such as the building's history/architecture, the pool was clean and well maintained, and the morning staff were very friendly and available. Unfortunately some things were not good. The attendant couldn't be found after we checked in and discovered our room keys didn't work (she had been busy emptying various trashcans and taking towels to the pool leaving the front desk, lobby, and the "market" unattended) so we left and got dinner. The rooms are really, really, really need to be updated. Really. They're ugly. Yes, there is private parking but it's across the street and the striping is backwards unless you drive UP a ramp onto the rooftop parking lot, drive across, then DOWN the ramp, and hope there's a space (because not everyone knows how to park between the lines). On a positive note, the beds are VERY comfortable and there's a yogurt machine in the breakfast area (with a mixed berries and granola topping bar)!

"Nice family hotel"
straav, 25 Juillet 2016

Trip with two small boys. The staff was very good. The room was near the pool and nice. In particular if you have 2-5 year olds there was a small kiddy pool. The rail road history part with a old steam engine on display out front was quite nice for a my little boys. Price was quite good. Only down side I encountered was that house cleaning missed a few bits of litter.

"Nice place!"
Cassandra N, 19 Juillet 2016

This hotel is nice and very historical. The architecture is very cool. This building was used to paint trains back in the day, and the tracks are still on the floor. Rooms are modern and comfortable. The pool is nice and the staff is awesome, we enjoyed our stay here.

"DO NOT BOOK! HORRIBLE customer service!"
Whougie L, 11 Juillet 2016

I had 4 horrible experiences with front desk staff. Not one --- FOUR! ALL from different staff members too. So it's not just one person. When I first booked, the first person booked the wrong dates. Another woman called to confirm the dates and when I did and had further questions since they got the dates wrong, she interrupted me, put me on hold and hung up. I called back two different times and both employees gave me attitudes. The last time around, I actually spoke up and told the young girl that I was simply calling to ask questions and didn't appreciate being given attitude for simply asking questions which was her job to help me. I was furious but we had to stay at that hotel because of the nearby tournament my husband was playing in. As for the stay, it's an out-dated hotel. They renovated the lobby area to make it look appealing but the rooms are in really bad condition. Everything is old. I don't trust taking my shoes off on the carpets. When we asked for extra blankets and pillows, they were out. Horrible experience! Go 3-4 miles elsewhere and save yourself the trouble of dealing with poor customer service here.

"Excellent for any type group/individual"
Louise G, 10 Juillet 2016

Staff very kind to elderly & young guests; loved the sauna and hot tub; smallish pool not exceeding chemicals; excellent free breakfast (yogurt machine, make your own waffle/pancakes, eggs, sausages, fruit, juice, rolls, oatmeal, toast). Extremely gracious staff; sturdy beds, great sheets. Quiet, safe neighborhood, EASY parking. Good place for wheelchairs & strollers - floors poured concrete.

"Wonderful historic stay"
gardenjean, 30 Juin 2016

They have brought the past back to life with this one. Historic train out front was fascinating. Excellent breakfast. Sauna was a great start to the morning. Quiet neighborhood. Very pleasant staff. Will stay here again.

"Great place"
Chris S, 29 Juin 2016

This place has great décor and history! Nice fitness center. The pool was also nice, my grandson loved it! It is located in a very convenient area, minutes from the Mall of America and also close to downtown Minneapolis.

"TERRIBLE!"
Jenabcd, 27 Juin 2016

We got there on a Friday with our kids and grandkids. That night about 10:30, we were walking to our rooms. Our 6 year old grandson ran down the hall...no noise, just running. A lady in the hall stops us and says to keep our children quiet, because they are doing a sleep study. What??? Our room has mold and water marks all over the ceiling. A large portion of the floor between the beds is drenched. We were gone all day, come back, and one bed is partly made and the other, not at all. They don't replace the coffee. There are only 3 towels in the bathroom, but there are 4 of us. We would love to change rooms, but with 8 of us, it's time and work to pack up and move to a different room. Terrible place though!

"Grand son's birthday visit."
David E, 27 Juin 2016

We had a great, comfortable stay. Our grandson had a great time visiting us and the pool was great for him. We have stayed may times here and always enjoyed our stays. The staff is so friendly and helpful that we do not even try for any other hotel. Why when we have a good thing. The location is so right for use too as only a few minutes from our family we come to visit.

"Don't come here when it is raining"
sweir2, 25 Juin 2016

This hotel has what it takes to be good, however, the lack of a portico and the lousy parking location really screws this place up. When we arrived, it was raining fairly hard. I asked if there was a covered area that we could use - nope, sorry about that. So, I took a luggage cart out in the pouring rain and dragged in the luggage. To make matters worse, the front door is not automatic, which results in you getting wetter as you fight to open the door without your luggage cart rolling downward. Once you get inside, you still have to deal with water entering the lobby. Now when you finish getting your stuff inside, then you have to take your car across the street and park in an old parking lot. The lot arrangement is crazy as the slanted spaces are opposite of your entry. Once you manage to park, you find yourself in 2 inches of water. Why? Because the lot does not drain. Beyond this, the hotel is absolutely in the middle of an industrial complex. The nearest restaurant is a distance away, and as such, we ate snacks in our room. All of this ruins an otherwise nice hotel which has been renovated from an old train terminal. It has a nice pool area and hot tub so the potential is there.

"Best Western Bandana Square"
Amy O, 20 Juin 2016

We stay here every time we come to St. Paul for my daughters Shriners Hospital appointments. They offer us a discount, have a wonderful pool and hottub, and we appreciate the breakfasts. Also, it's in a good location to get to where we need to go.

"Updates needed"
Stephen G, 07 Juin 2016

We enjoy staying at this hotel. It convenient to where we need to be.However, this time there was a serious problem with the shower. The handicap room needs updates and repair in the bathroom. And because of that, there was the smell of wet plaster in that room.

"Not impressed"
Kate M, 03 Juin 2016

My parents and I booked the suite under the impression that it would have a separate room for my snoring parents. It didn't. I opened up the pull-out sofa, and there were no sheets despite telling them well in advance that there would be three adults staying. So I went down to the front desk to ask for sheets. The guy seemed busy, and said he would call us when he could get them. 45 minutes and an accidental nap on the chair later (because I couldn't go to bed), my mom went back down there to ask again for sheets. She was told that he was busy and would get to it. My mom said that she would wait. My mom is just about the cutest, kindest little 65 year old lady ever, so when she is met with disrespect, I tend to blame the business. I do age with some of the other reviews about how the building is kind of cool because it is a repurposed train station, but it is also dingy because of that. Add that to the negative customer service experience, and I won't be back.

"Going to the doctor"
Bernard A, 27 Mai 2016

We have stayed at Bandana Square several times now and have enjoyed being there. It is quiet, friendly and relaxing. We stay for medical appointments--we love our shuttle ride to the university. It is also very close to important shopping and eating establishments--and easy drive for novice big city drivers. The pool area is great--and unique. The fact that the building was an old depot is very cool. The train tracks still there and the rustic look of the giant timbers all set the atmosphere.

"Very cool building"
Michelle I, 26 Mai 2016

The building is a converted old train depot or repair shop. Much of the original structure remains as well as train cars on the grounds. Room was updated with all amenities. Very friendly staff and great atmosphere

"Does not disappoint "
BCA34, 22 Mai 2016

We have stayed here through the years (1996-2016) for various reasons. This last weekend we had rooms 110 & 112 which were very quiet and the King beds were very comfy. Breakfast was decent with real half and half on Saturday morning. It's an easy place to stay, and family friendly.

"Nice place to stay"
genetteh1707, 22 Mai 2016

This hotel has a unique setting which we enjoyed very much. The hotel and room were very clean. The check in process was fast and with no problems whatsoever. The staff was extremely polite and friendly. We weren't able to use the pool and/or hot tub but the area was clean and roomy. The breakfast was good and had quite a few options to choose from.

"Excellent value"
Gogoyears53, 21 Mai 2016

This is a historic rail facility converted into a comfortable and friendly hotel. It is centrally located for central and western St. Paul and a short drive to Minneapolis. Excellent choice if you are going to the state fair or visiting a student at the St. Paul colleges.

"College Graduation Weekend"
Jonathan652, 18 Mai 2016

Hotel is adequate but nothing special. Rooms need some updating but beds are good. Low ceilings make the rooms seem smaller than they really are. Parking ramp needs repaving and is in lousy condition. Staff is helpful and friendly. Faux-rail theme plays into the history of the area which was once a locomotive repair shop.

"Bandanna Square"
Anastasia P, 17 Mai 2016

Beds could have been more comfortable. Not a lot of padding ....was like sleeping on springs. I picked this location cause I was taking continuing ed. classes in the conference building next door within walking distance.

"Hotel in a 100+ year old train station!"
Wendy B, 17 Mai 2016

Great hotel in a historic building (train station), at an affordable price , wonderful breakfast, close to everything. My only complaint is the lack of opening a window to get fresh air, but that may be just me!

"Great stay!"
Kerrie Z, 17 Mai 2016

What a unique property with helpful, friendly staff. The room was large and comfortable with an amazing bed. The breakfast was plentiful and the attendant made sure we had everything we needed. We will be staying here again!

"Excellent"
Jacob S, 06 Mai 2016

Friendly Staff, Clean rooms, Clean and comfortable pool, hot tub, sauna, A piece of history worth walking your dogs around! I was very impressed. It's hard to explain, find out about it yourself! Thanks to these guys for a great evening!

"Cool place"
L7825RZscotta, 04 Mai 2016

Hotel is a remodeled train station. Nicely done. Larger room than typical. A good breakfast with hot food. Very friendly person at the front desk. Interesting architecture fitting a hotel around the existing beams and doors of the old train station

"Good location for visiting Twin Cities"
jk5405, 03 Mai 2016

I was in the Twin Cities for a wedding and found this hotel very convenient to major highways between the two cities. It was a short drive to the Como Zoo and Conservatory. And not even that far a drive to Mall of America. The breakfast was good and the room was large and very clean. The staff was very helpful. Overall, a good place to stay when visiting the St. Paul area.

"History of Hotel"
William W, 02 Mai 2016

The history of the hotel is worth seeing. Being an old railroad repair shop was exciting. Looking at the railroad tracks throughout the building was unique. The design of the building was very creative. The swimming pool was ideal for families and children.

"Cleanliness is a foreign word"
Annbaxter, 01 Mai 2016

This was my 2nd stay in a month and it was a makeup visit from my first stay in a room with loud heating eqpt. and dirty bathroom. This room was worse! The bathroom had large muffin chunks laying next to the trash cans. Hair on bathroom floor was disgusting. Obviously the floor had not been cleaned. Then there was the shower. Tiny shower head mounted in the corner of a walk-in shower. Couldn't get my body under it without hitting my head on the grab bar. Imagine showering under a bathroom faucet! Broken tiles in the bathroom too. This was an inside room with no external view so it was impossible to know what to expect before going outside. And, the room was dark, even with every light on. Far too expensive, far too dirty, obviously in need of a real makeover and a new housekeeper! Wouldn't go back even if it was free.

"Basic"
Tony A, 29 Avril 2016

I stayed here again for one night, due to it being close to my house, while repair was being done. Not much has changed. Too expensive, for the amenities offered. Very loud AC/Heat system and lots of kids running down the hallways and I could hear the pool area, through the vent in my room. The staff are friendly enough and they were able to accommodate me on a 3 hour notice, but darn, they are expensive. They are in a safe area though and we didn't have to worry about seedy characters, wandering the hallways.

"Good Brand, This Location Needs Some Work"
Emanuel L, 27 Avril 2016

I travel quite a bit for work and I stay almost exclusively at Best Western hotels. The brand itself has made a real comeback and Best Western corporate customer service is easy to reach and very eager to please the customer. That said, each location is independently owned and operated, and this particular location, with all the great potential it has leaves a lot to be desired. The staff, however, made a real effort to make up for where the building and the procedures fell short, and that is really important as far as I'm concerned.

"Historic Hotel"
Nellie (, 27 Avril 2016

This hotel is one of a kind historic train station. The lay out of the building was very unique. We were very satisfied with our stay. We wish the pool was open past 10:00, but we arrived late. Not the hotels fault at all. We were pleased with our spacious room & cleanliness of it. Hotel staff was awesome to work with & super helpful.

"AWESOME Hotel"
Valerie T, 25 Avril 2016

This hotel was the BEST, clean fresh smelling rooms, great breakfast and the lobby and hallways were so clean. So glad I stayed with you. When I have to come back it will be with your hotel, no doubt.

"Awesome Restored Train Depo"
Claudia B, 24 Avril 2016

Unique decor in the inside and outside courtyards. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Clean, quiet rooms (some poolside courtyard), good bed, nice hot and cold continental breakfast. Closest hotel to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds but out of sight and sound of highways.

"Great place to stay!"
Rita B, 21 Avril 2016

I loved staying at this historically renovated motel! The history behind the building is fascinating, the amenities were great, and staff was very friendly and helpful! I would definitely stay there again, and would recommend it to others.

"pet friendly hotel"
David E, 18 Avril 2016

We stayed with our little dog and this property is truly a pet friendly one. Staff so very friendly and our room so great for us. We had every thing so close at the property and the location so close to where we needed to be and to go. Family were able to come by and visit too! Was a great breakfast and plenty of choice that any want was taken care of. We had a great sleep too, as we were poolside. Our room was in a great location..

"Poor service and amenities"
Ann K, 17 Avril 2016

The staff did not address the issues when I complained about the air conditioning and the plumbing not working even though they said they would. you could hear every person in the hall talking in soft voices The price was too high for the quality of the room the breakfast was good

"great place to stay"
Connei S, 13 Avril 2016

was greeted by friendly staff, informed of everything she thought we needed to know, printed off directions to show we were attending that evening. later when we returned she was supposed to close down lounge but let us get a post show snack and drink.

"Nice place to stay - some issues"
mrocks1, 11 Avril 2016

I stayed at this hotel twice earlier this year. All of the staff were very friendly, and they have a very good continental breakfast (tasty with lots of options). The first room was on the main floor next to the pool. It was spacious and clean, but the patio sliding door was unlocked, open and there was no bar to "brace" it after locking. If I hadn't thought to check it (curtains were closed), it would have been that way all night. The sink faucet had a very small stream of water that didn't change in strength, but the shower had good water pressure. Being on the main floor and being built on a railroad site - the floor leading to the rooms is wavy with strips of railroad tracks under the concrete (reminds me of a series of speed bumps.) While this is really cool, if someone has trouble with balance or walking...could be dangerous. The second stay - the room was on the 2nd floor overlooking the breakfast area (which turned out to be quite noisy in the morning between listening to carts being rolled over the floor and just people noise in general. The room was, again, spacious and clean. No issues with unlocked doors or plumbing. It is kind of a maze up there, and they could definitely put up additional signage (especially for the middle hallways) helping you find your way around and your room. Each visit, I requested a wake-up call that never came. Lucky I'm a light sleeper so I woke up on my own. It might not sound like it, but I did enjoy my stay there. However, there are some issues they could work on to help improve the stay.

"Might be my worst hotel experience to date"
ajg1216, 09 Avril 2016

As I write this post at 3am, I have been up for the last two hours while the guests in the "suite" above me have partied. Hard. I talked to a manager earlier in the evening who must have told them to take it elsewhere, because it actually quieted down for a little while. And then the bar closed. I've been out three times in the last two hours to talk with the hotel staff. I even invited them into my room to hear it, and they promptly went to go "talk" to them. The only solution they offered was to switch rooms. That's not a bad solution, but it's not happening. My sister and her six month old are also staying in the room with me. Have you ever had to pack up an infant and move them across a hotel at 3am? Didn't think you would want to do it either. We traveled here for a funeral and have had several sleepless and stressful nights leading up to this trip. This is very disappointing, and I'm not happy about having to pay to stay here. Did I mention this is only the first night of a three night stay? I understand this may be a one-off situation, but now you know what can happen and how the hotel handles these matters. Otherwise, the hotel is alright. Strange layout (historic rail building) and a little dated, but far from the worst hotel on the block. Maybe it's the Second Best Western in Saint Paul?

"They have a Sauna! And Dog Friendly"
Muqtada_Burzynski, 08 Avril 2016

Overall, the hotel was what was expected. We stayed here because they are pet friendly. The location in the old train depot is great. The pool area is small, but the large sauna makes up for it. If you are in St. Paul area and need a place to stay, this is a good spot. However, it is not near the Downtown.

"Pet Friendly and the Best Location in St Paul"
Diane E, 07 Avril 2016

We love staying at the Best Western Bandana Square. It is perfectly located in the middle of the Twin Cities, is very pet friendly, and a great value when compared to other hotel choices in the metro area. It has a small cocktail lounge, a very nice hot breakfast buffet, comfortable quiet rooms (comfy beds), easy free parking, and plenty of nearby outdoor space to walk the dog.

"Hawks vs Wild game"
Miriam H, 31 Mars 2016

Beautiful hotel, great staff, nice breakfast, comfy beds, bar has happy hour and appetizers. Market with snacks and microwave meals, beer and wine. We planned this trip around the hockey game and when I found this hotel so near by we were really happy. There is also a nearby shuttle that you can take to the xcel center, which is probably a good idea!

"Nice room for reasonable price"
annegC5156NH, 30 Mars 2016

Nice room and good beds. Like the atmosphare at this hotel. Staff helpful and serviceminded. Not very centrally located if you would like to be more "downtown " but visiting surrounding area it's nice. Bus stop to travel to MSP or St Paul very close by

"Old World meets New School"
Philip K, 29 Mars 2016

Awesome how they have incorporated the legendary architecture of a by-gone era with contemporary appointments and current technology. It makes for a one-of-a-kind atmosphere. When you stay, don't forget to look up!!! Literally, look up and take in the old world construction...it will transport you to a simpler time and place, and help wash away the cares of your busy day!

"Great people"
kh144, 24 Mars 2016

This hotel is in a good location convenient to UM - an interesting historical area (especially for railroad buffs), and has a staff that cares. Mike went out of his way to make sure our room was satisfactory. We recommend it.

"Good central location"
Alan A, 18 Mars 2016

The Hotel is in a business park, the area was quite. It is a unique hotel that it is built inside of an old rail repair facility. It is starting to show some of it's age in the decor, but it is maintained. We had a pool side room, they have patio furniture around the out of the pool by the rooms, it was odd to have someone sitting right in front of the sliding door that lead out to the pool. The rate seemed a little high for what you get, it is more than the basic but not much more.

"They gave my room to another Guest!"
Celeste L, 18 Mars 2016

I had originally booked a room directly thru the hotel with 2 queen beds (1 bed for me and 1 bed for a colleague I had just meet). When we went to check in, we found they had given our room to another guest and wanted us to sleep in a room with 1 king Bed. The employee tried to play if off as being a “Free Upgrade”. I explained why we needed two beds and she claimed she didn't have another room to give us. I was finally able to speak to a manager who, thru aversion, finally gave us a room with two queen beds. I felt the entire process was extremely unprofessional and a little ridiculous. When I booked the room, I was very specific as to why I needed two Queen Beds. The idea that I would share a bed with someone I hardly knew was just insane. The other option they gave me was to sleep on the couch!

"Start looking for other hotels"
Kathryn M, 08 Mars 2016

Room overheated!!, filthy, rundown. Not worth the money. Breakfast horrible. No hospitality. Just look for everything to cost you or do it yourself. Cleaning wipes necessary to bring with you. Light bulbs not for reading. Your own trash bags and towels also need. Pool area closed so don't think of using when you arrive. Incorrect TV station guides. ( They change to often for us to do that.)No local or hotel information. One paper room map.Coffee with powder milk drinkers only even at breakfast bar. Grocery store one mile for you to buy!!!

"Great Sleeping, great launching spot"
Susan L, 06 Mars 2016

I was in Minnesota to await the birth of my first grandchild. This was a convenient spot and quiet sleeping. The pool and fitness center helped me feel fitter as I "waited." Though seemingly in the middle of nowhere, the hotel is convenient to many thoroughfares for Minneapolis and St. Paul. Great staff and clean facilities.

"Excellent"
Randy D, 05 Mars 2016

This motel is a very nice and clean motel. The staff is very helpful when asking about food places close by to eat at. I would recommend this motel to anyone. The breakfast in the morning, was also very good. The atmosphere of the over all motel was very good also. Very good experience here. The experience here at the Bandana Motel, was great. I would recommend this motel to anyone. Thanks again

"Not bad, just a few issues"
MNGal56527, 03 Mars 2016

Fitness room had elliptical and bike issues. Treadmill was high end and quality and no issues. Shower in bathroom had no water pressure and poorly lit room. Easy access with side door to parking lot. Parking can be tricky in front lot if full.

"I love this place, except"
Julie S, 24 Février 2016

It's always so hot in the rooms. I stay down there every 3 months or so for medical appointments, and always loved it. The architecture is really cool, and it's close to where I need to be. I haven't stayed there though due to their heating and cooling being out of whack. If it ever gets fixed, I would be more than happy to stay there again.

"Personal retreat and relaxation"
Shirley K, 15 Février 2016

Best Western Plus Bandana Square, St. Paul is totally an open air Hotel, very comfortable and friendly. So many things to do so close by, and the historic feature of the Hotel certainly drew us there.

"Good atmosphere"
Dawn S, 13 Février 2016

Neat atmosphere--open, historical; decent amenities, Nice breakfast, clean & comfortable room--spacious with comfy beds and controllable room temperature. Quiet. Decent hotel breakfast. The only complaint was the shower was backing up and water pressure low--the front desk help planned to have someone look at that

"Pleasant stay for good price"
kimkH9509QW, 12 Février 2016

Was our hotel for St. Paul WinterFest activities. Staff were knowledgeable about locations and tickets needed for events. We had a comfortable, clean room and a decent-enough breakfast. Rooms are a bit dated in decor, but that's not very important to us. Staff was polite and helpful. Check-in was quick; we had made reservations online. Easy check-out. We did not use the pool or work-out room. Internet service dropped the signal a couple of times.

"Great Place to stay"
Mauna W, 10 Février 2016

I absolutely love this place! The staff is amazing! You meet a smile with everyone you meet and they go out of their way to make your visit the best it can be. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The atmosphere is so relaxing. The train theme and the history of the building are a perfect combo. I would recommend this place to anyone!

"Neat features to this hotel"
NickNewton36, 08 Février 2016

I am pleased to write about our experience this time; the last time I here I was fairly harsh in my comments. Nothing negative to report - room was clean, well-appointed and the bed and temp were perfect. Hotel lobby uniquely designed; it was formerly a train depot and they've retaining the original rails coming in. The center area (originally ticketing) is converted to accommodate those guests enjoying the free breakfast each morning. The lobby bar is well-stocked and a very comfortable area to enjoy a beverage.

"Pleasant staff"
Jane S, 01 Février 2016

Staff at the Best Western Plus in St. Paul were very helpful, pleasant, and welcoming. Hotel and rooms were clean and well kept. The bed was not the most comfortable, but room temp was good. Great location for my business trip. I would recommend staying at this hotel and will likely return for work again. Nice restaurant within walking distance and well lighted walkway.

"Best hotel almost like home"
Nicci-t-87, 31 Janvier 2016

I stay in hotels a lot for work with a minimum of 2 weeks, I have been staying with them since November 30th and this hotel has been the BEST by far!!!! A big shout out to Mike, Taye, Alyssa,Lori, and all the staff I did not mention they made me feel at home from the moment I walked in the door, remembering me by name the first day, knowing my daily routine to make sure I always had fresh coffee after a long day of work, great to have conversation with, always making sure I had everything I need to make my stay even better, and to top it off when I would leave to go home for a weekend they made sure I was put back in the same room to make it even more homy, very clean rooms, great beds and comforters and definitely a great team that cares about the satisfaction of their guests!!!! Only downfall is no onsite laundry, but the staff made up for it with service Wtg keep up the great work!!!! This is a must stay hotel!

"Favorite Hotel"
Lorri P, 30 Janvier 2016

This is a great hotel. Alyssa, at the front desk is great. If you are in St. Paul, you need to stay here! Easy parking, close to food and ice rink. I highly recommend it. I like to stay in this neat, old train works.

"weekends"
Colan S, 29 Janvier 2016

Okay place but breakfast hours on weekend need to be extended. Beds are a bit stiff. Staff is helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and pretty typical. Temperature gets controlled from front desk which is not particularly convenient. Convenient location for me in that I come to St. Paul to attend Hamline University Hockey games and the rink is less than a mile from the BW.

"3 day stay, for major surgery on my dog, Gidgett"
Ron S, 20 Janvier 2016

The staff was like family from the minute that I arrived!! They made my stay feel like home. Notably, but not entirely: Alisa, managed bar and front desk and was great to talk with!! Sandy, the manager was also great to talk to at breakfast and during the day! She was very nice and super supportive when Gidgett was in surgery! Lindsey, at front desk, was very supportive and nice! I think Gidgett liked her the most of all! Mike the bartender was good to talk with and took my mind off my anxiety when Gidgett spent night in ICU. Gidgett is doing great! If all goes well I will return in about 4 months for a follow-up visit, and look forward to seeing my friends (felt like family) again! Thanks to all for helping me and Gidgett through difficult times!

"Excellent Service"
LeoMcNeill, 16 Janvier 2016

I stayed here for several nights. The service was excellent, they helped with my stay anyway they could and only charged for extra service rarely. I used their shuttle and it was always on time and glad to be there in the worst conditions.

"It's a hotel ....."
EnglishHugh, 08 Janvier 2016

If you like the BW formula then this is the place for you. The layout & building offer something different. The gym sauna pool combo was welcome. The train stop area for breakfast was different. Pets are allowed so if you have allergies then you might want to make sure you know who/what has been in touring beforehand/recently.

"Great Staff!"
sophiaw967, 04 Janvier 2016

The staff was very friendly! Unfortunately, the hot tub wasn't working and I was really looking forward to it. Love the layout of the hotel and the location! Nice little bar area and nice that they had a settee area outside the rooms that were poolside!

"Better Lock your door!"
adventurer478, 02 Janvier 2016

Very unique hotel, being in an old train depot, but you had better lock your doors. We initally given a key to someone else's room. I opened the door and saw someone else's luggage. We were reassigned to a new room and after we were in bed, someone was outside our room, trying to use their key card. Thankfully, we had the safety lock on. They were given the wrong key as well. The hotel is close to the railroad museum.

"Exceptional service"
Jason W, 22 Décembre 2015

I'm staying here and have been for over 2 weeks for work. I felt right at home here with the service and hospitality especially from Alyssa and Lauri. They also recommended some great places to check out while in town.

"St Paul Bandanna Sq hotel"
sherwood1202, 15 Décembre 2015

This is a neat setting--old railroad station. Staff was very friendly and addressed all our needs. Hotel was under construction--lobby and other areas. Breakfast and pool area looked great. Room was pretty beat up but clean. Choose the place due to location and pet friendly. Would go back and hope the room is updated.

"Very unique, beautiful hotel!"
David P, 14 Décembre 2015

This hotel is situated inside of an old train car maintenance building. The building's exterior is awesome, as are the surrounding buildings. The interior has some updates but you can tell they've gone to great lengths to keep the charm of the old structure, and it shows. Pretty cool place to stay.

"LOVED STAYING THERE MULTIPLE TIMES. ONLY PLACE WE WOULD STAY!"
Deb R, 25 Novembre 2015

This is the only place we would stay when we came to the metro area! Only problem we had was once I called to check on availability and rates. They had gone up significantly so i told them I would need to think about it and call back if we decided to make a reservation. A few weeks later I got a charge on my credit card for $140 from them. I called and asked what it was about and they said we reserved the room and never showed up. I made it clear that we had not made a reservation and then after multiple calls I was told that I did in fact check in at about 1am...I live 2 hours away and we wanted to come for my daughters birthday and most certainly did not show up. We stayed home and drove to the metro in the morning since room rates were too expensive...They refused to show me where I signed the paperwork upon check in( i was never there so there was no paperwork) and I called for months and months and the manager never did call me back to try to work this out! I just left multiple messages that if they were going to not refund me my hard earned money then they could give me a coupon for a free night which they can write off anyway but no call back ever!!!!!! THIEVES!!! I was forced to put a travel date in so just added dec but this happened more than 2 years ago and still being ignored!!!

"Home away from home"
Laura G, 23 Novembre 2015

Very comfortable atmosphere and great staff! Room was clean and functional. If you're looking for "ritz," this is not the place; but if you're looking for comfortable, friendly, and more than competent staff, this is a great place to stay. We are very much looking forward to our return in April, and have selected this hotel as our home away from home for our future trips to St. Paul.

"Poor"
AudreyThayer, 15 Novembre 2015

This hotel was unique but due to staff, noise levels in the poor area ruined any positive experience. Difficult directions given for dinner. Staff dressed sloppy and did not see to know how to greet. The parking area is located across a road. Adequate directions how to get into the parking area not provided. Smokers are near the entrance and is smelly.

"Great Hotel"
Janice J, 13 Novembre 2015

Very friendly staff, very helpful, internet was fast and easy to use. The location was close to my training that all I needed to do was to walk over. Quiet hotel, no problems sleeping, The breakfast was very complete and wonderful!

"Left my laptop at the hotel"
Deanna A, 11 Novembre 2015

Thank you Best Western Staff, especially Lindsey and Mike. Awesome customer service, you helped return my daughter's school laptop. My daughter did not notice until 2 days later she forgot her laptop at the hotel. We called the hotel and worked with Mike to recover the laptop. He had additional help and we are so greatful they found the laptop.Honest and caring employees, Best Western you are lucky to have a dedicated staff.

"Awesome Hotel with History"
Jill D, 10 Novembre 2015

We love staying at the Best Western PLUS Bandana Square. The train station history is so very interesting as well as how they were able to convert it to a hotel leaving some of the original train tracks. The staff is attentive and friendly. I enjoyed meeting them throughout the weekend. The breakfast needs some updating to a fresher and healthier fare. The workout facility needs to be redone and this place would be near perfection!

"This is our 3rd or 4th time here"
Paul A, 09 Novembre 2015

Room was clean and the beds were comfortable. They put us into one of the large King bed room on the 2nd floor. Hot breakfast was provided. Some parts of the room was out dated but nothing terrible. Small bar available. Close to the St. Paul campus of U of M.

"Pleasent surprise"
David B, 02 Novembre 2015

After reading some reviews, I knew what to look for. To my surprise, I smelt fresh paint, my room temp was comfortable the entire time, and the noise from the pool was minimal. Staff was fantastic! Breakfast was fresh and attractive. Had a good time! No complaints.

"visiting family"
Rita F, 29 Octobre 2015

was visiting a family friend. very nice place to stay. very friendly and helpful staff. also very clean and quiet atmosphere. The breakfast was good and a nice variety. the rooms were quiet and off the main roads, also the railroad theme was very warn and inviting.

"Old depot"
ed v, 28 Octobre 2015

This is a charming and quaint establishment. The lobby and rooms are clean and well kept. The staff was kind and accommodating. Centrally located between the cities. We enjoyed our stay in this romantic little motel. I would highly recommend it.

"Family visit"
Kayuo, 14 Octobre 2015

Hotel has a great hot breakfast daily. Indoor pool. We had a handicapped room so bathroom was very spacious. Room had king bed and fridge and microwave. Only problem was the room thermostat was regulated by calling front desk. It was ok first night but second night we were quite warm and the temperature stayed at 74. Very close to Como park.

"History"
Kennys416, 13 Octobre 2015

Hotel is in what was an old railroad repair building well kept up with wood beams and ciellling in the lobby and traces of railroad tracks in the floor. Old steam engine outside the building and hotel was very quite. Better then average breakfast Hot items.

"Needs work"
BostonExpat, 12 Octobre 2015

Seeing this hotel's website, I thought it looked like a unique place to stay. It was an old railroad terminal building of some type converted into a Best Western Plus. The building itself was pretty cavernous and had character. The hotel's staff and breakfast were also good. The place where things fell apart was the room. Much was in need of repair. That's the easiest way to say it. Needs some definite upkeep.

"A good night's rest and sleep"
Stanley P, 09 Octobre 2015

The hotel is a pleasant place to stay with a delightful history. It has a nice lounge, fine pool, and exercise area. The room was very clean. The beds were very comfortable. We stayed here because we needed a place where we could get a good night's rest and we did. The only negative - We stayed at this hotel several years ago. It is apparent that it could use some updating.

"A property quickly getting tired."
David K, 08 Octobre 2015

I spent three nights here while attending a reunion at one of the area colleges. Bandana Square is a convenient location for visiting much of the city of Saint Paul, as there aren't many hotels outside of downtown or away from the freeways ringing the city. I have stayed here several times in the past, and this stay left me disappointed. The hotel is showing its age. Cleaning and maintenance have not been kept at a high level. Although the place is not yet falling apart, one can see that the decline is steady. Walls and floors in the hallways show a great deal of wear and tear, and my room was ready for a new coat of paint. The curtains in my room had been splashed with something by a previous guest. The receptionist took note for cleaning when I pointed out the problem, but it obviously had been overlooked before I checked in. The hotel was full for a busy weekend in the Twin Cities, and noise from other guests was annoying at night. I imagine that the occupants in the room next door were able to hear the television programs that I watched, too. To make the noise problems worse, I drew a room next to the elevator machinery room, which was not well insulated for sound. The staff members were pleasant and helpful, and all interactions were positive. I just wish that the employees had a nicer place to work.

"TripAdvisor"
Dorothy N, 04 Octobre 2015

The Bandana Square Best Western location has excellent customer service. I believe that it is slightly over priced. However, it is centrally located between Minneapolis and St. Paul. It has free parking and free shuttle service. It is also close to the lite rail. That makes it a great choice for me.

"Off the Beaten Track and Fascinating"
John_RA_13, 01 Octobre 2015

I chose this hotel for our 6-day stay in St. Paul because of its proximity to the golf course where I would be playing in a tournament. I'm glad I did. The site is a restored train repair shop from the 19th century; the old tracks still run through the reception area. Breakfasts, that included both eggs, meat, biscuits & gravy in addition to sweet rolls and fruit, were excellent; staff worked hard to keep it supplied and cleaned because the kitchen was a considerable distance from the serving/eating area. Our room, and the closet space, was huge and fully supplied with the essential amenities. The bed was firm and fine. Service was exceptional. I had made the reservation through an online service months in advance and a change in software systems meant that my payment was not properly recorded. The manager on duty at our check-in (on July 6) worked hard to get things right. Happily, I had all the documentation needed to prove that payment had been made. Disappointments: hot tub water was not hot enough and jets not strong enough, especially for athletes wanting a soothing soak. Outdoor maintenance was minimal; flowers were beautiful, but cigarette butts and trash piled up in the outdoor smoking areas diminished the pleasure of being there.

"Settling for Average"
debrad820, 24 Septembre 2015

I shared this thought upon checkout. I would call this location "adequate". It was a place to sleep and it was close to the state fairgrounds. It is a building with lots of character and it could be a very nice place to stay. We tried the bar the first night and they weren't able to accommodate our beer on tap request as they had shut things down. The cost cutting/saving measure are what lowered it in my ratings. While some might consider it being "green" I considered it in this case the difference between an adequate stay and a great stay. While I understand saving costs, when we arrived the room was hot and muggy and I went downstairs to find out that the room temp is regulated by the front desk. that would have been ok if they anticipated our arrival and made the room inviting in temperature. There were two of us staying for 2 nights and we had minimal towels (which were adequate, but an extra would have been nice). No spare roll of toilet paper but two partial rolls on the fixture. Again, adequate, but I didn't feel more than adequately taken care of. The first morning I tried the breakfast. Juice was served in a lovely glass pitcher but was watery. The same for the coffee. There were no coffee lids at the breakfast area to take my coffee with me if I had chosen to do so. On the second morning we had an early departure at 6:30 am. the main areas of the hotel had most of the lights off and again, adequate but I think the cost cutting measures are getting in the way of what could be a nice hotel. The female front desk person was pleasant and friendly during our visit. When I described my experience as adequate at checkout, the young man simply said, "Oh I understand"

"Bandana declines rapidly"
Jeffrey B, 21 Septembre 2015

After 24 years of loyalty to Bandana for my travels to St. Paul I will be looking at other options. New inexperienced staff, dysfunctional internet system and recent 33% price for increase for business travel all add up to a poor value.
