« Excellent hotel, reasonably priced, human sized »

Stayed there 3 nights. The area is really nice, in front of the beach, close to a lot of restaurants. The hotel is small and gives the feeling of being family run. Breakfast was great. Internet access is good.

« Short stay, nice feeling »

By the second time I stayed just one night, but it was enough to feel how good the hotel it is. Good location, near to the airport, friendly staff and nice view in front of the river plate. Rooms are confortable, practical and looks new based on modern deco.

    « Great hotel for MVD arrivals/departures »

My wife and I were completing a two week trip in Uruguay, and needed a hotel for our last night whilst waiting for our flight the next day. This hotel is about 4 miles from MVD so it suited us exactly. The rate was around $93.00 US dollars per night and included breakfast. I thought the hotel's web site said free parking, but maybe I misunderstood. When we checked I was a little put out when I was informed that they had no parking lot, but that I was welcomed to park on the street. Well, only one problem with that, this hotel is right on the beach near the casino, and parking spots on the street are not easily come by. That was when the hotel showed me a tiny, tiny spot next to the front of the hotel where if you try real hard you can park one or two small cars. That is what I did. Our room was on the 2nd floor and was just under 10 feet by 14 feet, and had a nice bathroom. There are floor to ceiling windows in this room, and one of those windows opens just like a door out onto a narrow patio. Oddly enough, this is one long communal patio outside, so I guess should someone desire, they could stroll up and down this narrow patio just seeing what they could see. We pulled out curtains to prevent that possibility, and made sure this door was locked. We were also a bit concerned with the floor. This appears to be a wooden floor, that has been exposed to flooding or excessive moisture for an extended period of time. It has "waffled" and is a bit hard to walk on. The manager told me that they are working to correct this floor problem. There are plenty of restaurants and bars within easy walking distance of this hotel. The hotel itself does have its own bar and restaurant. We slept well enough. The breakfast was served in a nice breakfast/dining room. Cozy, and the food was good. All-in-all, this is just about as good as it's gonna get. I would imagine in the summertime the rate goes up, and for good reason: it is right across the street from the beach on the Rambla. Nice hotel. Worth a try.

    « Adequate »

The hotel is conveniently located near Carracso Airport with a nice location and ocean view. Older style, okay stay. Would recommend if you are in a hurry and don't plan to be in Montevideo for any length of time

« Better the second time around »

This time I arrived at this hotel in daylight. It is quite nice. A bit of a rocky entrance. Crazy small elevator. Nice room, comfy bed. Room 30 had an enclosed balcony with a terrific view. Very helpful staff. I will stay here again!

    « Decent »

Decent hotel for a nights stay. The room was clean but dated. The bathroom in particular was very old fashioned. I made the mistake of using the jacuzzi function on the bath: the nozzles were unclean and the bath was quickly filled with black bits and scum. The bed was comfortable and the air con worked well. Breakfast wasn't great. The selection of food was acceptable, but the room itself was cramped, untidy and a little dirty. The waitress was incredibly rude and unhelpful. The hotel is within walking distance of local bars and restaurants, although we found the area to be very quiet and a bit underwhelming. The hotel offers airport transfers for $25,however,if you pay in the local currency it works out a few dollars cheaper.

« Perfect for the price »

The hotel is charming - small (under 30 rooms) and the staff are helpful. Feels a bit old world, if you like that. Yes, it can be a bit noisy - the walls are thin and the rooms facing the river get traffic noise, but you could pay a lot more and have the same experience. The location is great - the nearby neighborhood of Carrasco has some decent restaurants and shops.

    « Wasted Potential »

This hotel has so much potential, it is in a great location on the Rambla just next door to the very upscale Sofitel Hotel and Casino, amid lots of good restaurants and shops. The building has a homey old world charm and the staff is friendly. The problem is that the mantainence is poor. The bathroom grout is stained as are the towels, the sink doesn't drain and the rooms are noisy. Too bad.

    « Handy and Friendly »

I have stayed several times at the Figari because of the price and location. There are no Airport hotels near Montevideo's Carrasco Airport. For me this the next best thing and this hotel has several great features that call me back. First, I have had excellent customer service from the folks at the front desk. One staff member did an excellent job with maps and accurate directions for two obscure locations I had to find at night. Second, it is clean and relatively quiet. The upsrairs rooms in front facing the beach have some traffic noise, so I prefer to stay toward the back Where the view is not as good. Everything in the rooms is well-maintained, and convenient, but the walls are too thin. A sizable collection of oil paintings by Pedro Figari, 1865-1938 is displayed throughout the hotel. The cook needs to learn to make scrambled eggs and bacon but the rest of the food is acceptable and the dining area is pleasant. There is no restaurant but I find the room service menu items are decent. Parking is available nearby on quiet streets.

« Close to the airport and the casino »

The airport in Montevideo is far from the downtown, therefore we decided to stay a night in this hotel close to the airport. The hotel is not luxurious, is like an old house adapted to be a hotel, but it was very comfortable with a view to the river. The staff was very nice and helpful. The hotel is located next to the new casino and a couple of blocks from many restaurants, shops and coffee shops.

    « A Perfect Gem »

We stayed in many locations on our trip in South America but really loved the location, view and most of all the staff at this location. Right across from the beach, next to the best dining in Montevideo, a casino next door, bicycles to ride anytime you chose and totally safe location. The staff was generous, kind and most of all informative, they help us with a rental car and pick out day trips for me and my 11 year old son. We had a really cool room on the 3rd floor that looked right into the ocean. We would go back that is for sure.

    « Best $ value. »

We spent a week waiting for our Brazilian Visa to be approved And stayed in 3 different hotels while in Uruguay, and while it was not an "Upscele" hotel it was less than half the cost, ($95 vs $250/night). As to the location, well we are directly across the street from what I like to call an ocean beach, but in fact is a river with a beautiful beach...dang largest river I've ever seen! Anyway, the location is one block from a really expensive hotel/spa/casino that you can enjoy, and a 5 minute walk into town where we spend wonderful evenings walking to dinner, eating outside and walking home in the moonlight nights. (Yes, a romantic here) OK, now the particulars on the hotel itself. It's nicely bricked on the outside and looks either relatively new or newly remodeled. The inside is like an old fashioned European hotel. The rugs cover the squeaky wooden floors and the room floors are laminent wood colored. The furnishings are old European antiques and the bathrooms have been remodeled to look modern. For some of the rooms, there are decks that wrap around the building. GREAT, except there is no separation, so we had people smoking outside on the deck right in front of our room...eeewwww. The breakfast is included with the price of the room. The coffee is strong, the cut fruit is freshly cut, the standard ham & cheese slices are the best, 3 choices of cold cereal, fresh juices & yogurt available. They also offer both white & whole wheat bread slices for you to toast. The offered sweet rolls, cookies, quiches & scrambled eggs, & bacon were things we passed up because they didn't really look appetizing. The Staff was VERY sweet and helpful describing things for us to do and drawing on a map where things were located. Additionally they have a few bikes for you to borrow, with locks for when you stop in town. Now finally, know that the walls & door to the hallway are pretty thin and you can hear most of the things and activities going on around you.

« Renovated B&B Style hotel in Carrasco »

As an option in Carrasco area for a short stay is adviseable especially if you do not need to actually get to downtown Montevideo. Area is very nice. Hotel shows the age even with the renovation but in its benefit has a B&B environment with a little sofistication. Elevator is probably the oldest and smallest I have ever experienced. Stairs work better.

    « Reasonable, clean, friendly & comfortable »

Stayed here for one night on business. Reasonable rates, simple but very comfortable rooms which were very clean. Nice location outside the city with the beach across a busy main road at the front. But I didn't find the rooms noisy. Breakfast was simple but good. Would stay again.

« Could be much better! »

Stayed here for just two nights as a business/leisure trip and was not that impressed with the quality/standard of the rooms. Downstairs the reception & breakfast room is light, airy & modern but the same cannot be said for the room & bathroom. The room smelled like someone just had a cigarette in it & the shower, although hot water was available, the pressure was awful - to get wet you had to run around. The safe in the room was there but non functional - what's the point of having a safe when there is no lock on it?! Breakfast was reasonably good however the choice of cereal was not to my taste & limited in my opinion. No labels either so you didn't know what it was without asking. There were too many cakes/sweet biscuits. The only saving grace is that the location & view from the room was great - 15 mins from the airport & a view over the river.

« Great views, comfortable and nice breakfast but a bit old »

This was the only hotel available near de airport, still the taxi will cost you 650 UY, the service was really nice despite we arrive at 2am on a late flight. The rooms was spaceful and clean, and bed very comfortable but it's a bit old hotel, having said that I rather prefer the charm of old than the aseptic of brand new. Breakfast was really nice, and it's well located in front of the beach.

    « Fortress or Prison? »

Stayed here for one night. It appeared to be closer to the airport on the map than reality. After I found it quite late, the front desk person was still there! Easy entry to the hotel, quick check-in. A walk down the hall to my room. Everything was fine, old but pretty nice. Super big showerhead, good for a monsoon rain shower! But the tub filled with water really quickly so my shower was very short. Left in the morning and skipped breakfast. Kind of weird that there is a gate/fence around the entire property. Had to park on the street and he said that they have security? The neighborhood seemed fine, but with that much barricading it must not be.

« Good hotel, great location »

We really liked this hotel. Carrasco is like a small village, and the beach along the riverfront is awesome. We booked well ahead, so our room overlooked the beach. Breakfast was excellent, some very interesting choices (including some savory quiches), and the young woman who was in charge of the breakfast room was personable, charming and efficient. We chose the hotel mainly because it was a change from the downtown area, where we'd stayed for about a week and a half (and which we really enjoyed), and because it was nearer the airport. Plus, it had good reviews (well deserved, we discovered). It's right across the road from the beach (safe road crossing quite near), hotel staff was welcoming, and the rooms, while not large, were quite nice. Clean, comfortable, quiet, good staff, great breakfast (did I mention we're picky? This isn't your typical BW breakfast!), and a great location. Good restaurants within an easy stroll (especially Nueva Garcia).

« Good value, that is it »

A low cost hotel close to the airport but with a service equal to a low cost hotel. However for 119$ per night it should really be better than this. Hotel room was almost clean and the bathroom was 25 years old and almost working fine. The elevator went at the speed of a handicap elevator, it was easier to take the stairs than to wait for it. No hotel parking except on the street next to the hotel which on the other hand had plenty of space. The hotel breakfast was very basic and nothing special but fulfilled its purpose. The hotel had no restaurant but there were some ok restaurants in the area behind the casino just 200m walking distance.

« Great location, lively decor »

With artwork by famed Uruguayan artist Pedro Figari at every turn, an intimate-feeling layout, comfortable rooms, attentive staff, great coffee and views of the Rio de la Plata, this hotel hardly needs to be so well-located, but it is. Other parts of Montevideo can be iffy -- ah! I forgot to mention the BW-PF is also delightfully quiet -- but here in Carrasco there are many places to stroll, and it's an easy bus ride to the city center with its museums, etc.
