« First rate customer service, comfy stay »

Best Western Plus Holland House Detroit Lakes First rate customer service, comfy stay 572669164 This was my first time in Detroit Lakes and I will be back to this hotel. Our room was quiet, though trains pass frequently (request the rear side of the building if you are a light sleeper.) There's no gorgous view of a lake, but the room was exactly right for us: lamps on both sides of the bed, a great work table, bright lighting generally, comfy bed, very nice breakfast served over a long period, absolutely GREAT customer service. It had a pool/spa/fitness room but I didn't use them.

    « Wonderful Weekend Stay »

Clean from top to bottom - pool area, lobby, and rooms. The beds were very comfortable and it was great to have a dvd player in the room to keep the kids happy when there wasn't a show they liked on tv. The pool was nice and warm and the slide attendant did a wonderful job keeping things running smoothly. We will stay at this hotel again when we are in Detroit Lakes!

« Super clean, super nice room and the FREE Breakfast, is the best I ever had. »

This hotel tops the hotel charts. We had an outside entrance to our room (which made it nice for letting out our dog), we were close to the pool and hot tub (both were super nice and clean). The only problem is the rooms are heated by hot water heat and the room was a little to warm for our sleep ways, however, overall, we would stay here again.

« Best staff and hotel experience! »

The hotel staff are incredibly helpful and friendly and the hotel itself was super clean, served an amazing free breakfast, and had a really fun pool area with a water slide. Our family had a group of rooms and were staying as a result of a death in our family. I can't thank this hotel enough for helping to make a really difficult week for us so much more bearable with their amazing service and amenities.

« Great staff, clean room, great bfast »

Best western is my first go to hotel choice. This one is definately an A+ Friendly welcoming staff, Clean, comfortable, good wifi and full hot breakfast! Warm shelter during a wicked Minnesota Winter.

    « Wonderful Hotel »

We go here every year because of the great quality of service, clean rooms, & the waterside plus a large pool for all ages. We use the downstairs lobby area for family get together. Breakfast is always pleasant. Look forward to going there every year.

« Better on previous visits, still a good place to stay. »

Good hotel with clean rooms, friendly staff, good internet and breakfast. I have stayed at this hotel many times and usually its a slam dunk best place. This visit was disappointing while my room was clean and perfect, the internet password did not work on my laptop, 2 phones or an Ipad in the room or in the lobby. I had to de all my work on my phone. Breakfast is usually pretty good, this visit the egg patties were dry, hard and rather inedible. The Meat Canadian Bacon faired no better and was equally dried and inedible. Sad for this hotel, I hope it's not an indication of anything. I will stay again and recommend them, as I prefer to believe this issues as a fluke and not a norm.

    « Clean & Comfortable »

A great place to stay for the money!! Pool & waterslide are great for kids, the breakfast is always a treat!! Location makes for easy access to wherever you need to be. They keep the hotel clean and everyone is very friendly.

    « bad deal »

Poor experience. Security non existent. No up to current day standards. Stayed cold basement room. breakfast located in bldg two buildings away after cold outdoor walk. This was not a good value for this room

« Detroit Lakes BW Holland House »

Clean and comfortable. Good location near the major Hwy 10 route to or from Minneapolis or Fargo. Close to a good family restaurant. Detroit Lakes is a busy town in the summer with lakes activities, so book early in summer months.

    5
« Great Service, clean rooms »

Happy with our 1 night stay, 1 queen and 2 bunk twin beds. Room was clean. Free breakfast was not that good but had a lot to pick from. Would come back again! I like how the front door has access to parking lot.

    5
« Holland House Best Western Hotel »

The Holland House staff are excellent and the rooms are always clean and comfortable. The staff remember me every time I make a reservation and arrive. I request, and am always accommodated with a room away from the street, where it is quiet, as a busy RR line is across the street.

    5
    « Weekend Getaway »

It was one of the most enjoyable experiences at a local hotel. I'd stay there all the time when travelling in the future. The cleanliness of the property itself was a plus. The rooms were very clean. The pool was perfect to relax in. It should be a 2 story hotel with underground parking for the guests. I was impressed with the rustic look of the whole outside of the hotel.

    5
    « Great stay »

Great visit here. Clean hotel and their effort keeping it clean is well appreciated. Fun deep pool and water slide. Friendly staff was very accommodating. LOVED the room for our family with bunk beds. Will stay here again if back this way.

« Great quality, service and cleanliness for the value. »

I stayed at the Best Western in Detroit Lakes for a conference. The staff was excellent and I was impressed with the quality, cleanliness and decor of the room. The breakfast was fine and what I would expect in s compliment breakfast. Beds were comfortable, but the sound proofing could have been a bit better. Could hear children running andnoose from other rooms.

    5
« Awesome waterslide for small kids! »

This hotel had an awesome waterslide and pool area very suitable for small children. Our grandkids had a great time! The breakfast had regionally unique items in addition to your standard breakfast! Nice little fitness room, too. The rooms were very spacious. This would be a really great hotel if the beds and pillows were more comfortable, but still a great place.

    5
« Beautiful rooms and grounds »

The hotel has been renovated with beautiful rooms and grounds. The waterslide in the pool area is fun for all ages. I was able to park right outside my hotel room door. For breakfast, we had quite an array of choices. I especially enjoyed the choice to make pancakes or waffles. The serving and eating area is clean and comfortable. Trays were available if you wanted to take your breakfast to you room.

    5
    « Nice hotel »

Traveling from Michigan to North Dakota this was a nice stopover hotel. Our room was in the back to accommodate traveling with our pet dog. Room had an entrance to the parking area and the inside hallway. Rooms were clean, roomy and decorated nicely.

    4
    « Great value »

We went on short notice in the height of the tourist season, and Best Western gave us the best rate ($99) compared to any others. It's not right on the lake but close by and the free breakfast had a good variety of hot/cold items. Typical rooms but decent and clean.

    « Great 3 night stay. »

Had a great 3 night stay pool heated with water slide. Only draw back was hairs on one bed and beds were a bit stiff. Very friendly staff. We come up every year from Wisconsin. Love this hotel. Kids enjoy the heated pool and waterside.

    3
« Dog friendly and smelled like it! »

The hotel is ok. It is dog friendly and does not have a two night minimum on weekends which other hotels in Detroit Lakes do. We were passing through on our way to our cottage in Michigan so only needed a one night stay. Our room had a very strong smelly dog odor which made the room feel as though it wasn't clean. The hotel appears to have been upgraded in the past 5 years or so. Without the smell I would have given it a bit higher rating. It does have a large grassy area to walk dogs which was nice.

    5
« Great Motel in Detroit Lakes, MN »

This older style motel with an external door to many of the rooms is a great place to stay in Detroit Lakes, MN. It has been totally refurbished with excellent quality carpet, beds, drapes, and fixtures. Their rates vary depending on the day of the week, but they go out of their way to make your stay perfect. The water park was a vacation saver for us as it was rainy one day. Without that and the meeting room they let us use for our birthday party we would have had a bust of a day. They did a great job, and I encourage everyone to stay here if in need of a place to stay while in Detroit Lakes. The king bed was excellent. The staff is fantastic. The breakfast is included.

    5
    « Very nice »

Price includes an adequate hot breakfast, nice indoor pool and jacuzzi. Unlike the Wynn you have coffee in the room, a fridge and microwave. It's very close to the lake at a much lower price than lakeside and I loved the staff! Great antique mall just down the road.

    5
« Extra Fun at Detroit Lakes »

Nice location, easy to find, good value with exceptionally helpful and friendly staff. The waterside is a Plus for the kids and nice pool for all. The best treat for me was finding Lefse available for Breakfast. For me this was an automatic 5-Star rating. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who chooses to stay in the Detroit Lakes area.

    5
« Nice Place to Stay »

This hotel was a great place to stay. My girls enjoyed the big slide in the pool area. I enjoyed the fitness center. The staff was very easy going and very accommodating with any requests we had. The breakfast had a reasonable variety of items to choose from. I thought the beds were a little too bouncy, the pillows were unusually small for some reason, and the AC was a bit too noisy. The room size was nice and not cramped. I liked that the AC did have a continuous fan however, so it didn't wake me up at night as much when the AC would come on and off. Overall, nice place to stay and would definitely stay there again. Cheaper than the Holiday Inn nearby and better amenities.

    5
    « Dogs Welcome »

Great place to stay. Breakfast had a good variety and we notice many dogs. Rooms were comfortable and roomy. In room DVD can be used with videos found in the lobby. Staff was knowledgable about the area and provided options for entertainment.

    3
« Room in the basement »

Our room was in the basement, and was very humid compared to the rest of the building. Not a whole lot of air circulation. I am 5'3 and I could touch the ceilings in the hall flat footed. And the free breakfast was scarce and not very well stocked.

    5
« Return to Holland House »

We stayed here last year and was pleased with everything so returned. It is quite, comfortable and the receptionist is very friendly and accommodating.Detroit Lakes is a beautiful place to visit. What else can you want?

    4
    « Nice & Clean »

The Best Western is in a good location and the rooms are clean. The pool area is fun for families and has a waterslide, hot tub, and a splash area for little ones. There are train tracks nearby, but you can drown the sound out with the air conditioner! All staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful. This is the 2nd time we have stayed at this hotel.

  • 5
    « Final Night »

Very nice accomadations, hot tub pool area, Suffiecient breakfast. Overall nice motel, but price was a little high. I would definitely recommend it to friends. Enjoyed the South Dakotan front desk employee.

    3
« Great except the price and breakfast »

We thought the price was a little high, but there were two weddings and a family reunion happening. The pool and slide were great! Water was just the right temperature. I thought the breakfast was sub par. The eggs were served even with burned portions.

    5
    « Great stay »

Had a great stay for 1 night as we traveled home from our vacation. The hotel was new, clean, and the room we had was great. Breakfast was very good the next morning, our bed was very comfortable. Would highly recommend this hotel.

    4
    « Great Stay »

We very much enjoyed our stay here. The price was a little high, but that's to be expected in a resort town. The breakfast was good, beds comfy and the rooms were very clean. I would definitely stay here again. I also liked the fact that they have DVD players in the room and DVDs and board games to rent. Nice little touch.

    4
    « Good Family hotel »

Kids loved the slide, we liked that there was one room large enough to sleep all of our family. Hotel was clean and staff that we talked to was friendly. Swimming pool was not to cold and hot tub was fine. Rooms were clean, breakfast had plenty to chose from and coffee was good.

    3
« Decent hotel, great staff, lack of hot water »

The hotel staff were friendly, accommodating and professional. The bed was decent and the air conditioning was good. The room was clean and plenty of towels were provided. The shower had no water pressure and the water never got more than lukewarm.

    5
    « A restful place to stay »

We come to Brainard about every two year to participate in Stand Down (an out reach to Veterans). We have tried othe motels, this was the best one so far. We had a team of 4 two older Veterans (87 & 92) they had no problems navigating the toom or hallways.

    4
    « Relaxing getaway »

We were very pleased overall & would stay at this location again. We have only one exception. Walls are thin to adjacent room allowing voices etc to be heard. Also constant train noises, as the tracks are nearby, were bothersome but there is probably no way to correct this.

    5
    « Incredible Hotel Experience »

Everything was perfect. Michelle and her team made this one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. The rooms are great, everything is very clean including the pool area and well maintained. We will be back

    5
    « Would Stay Again »

This is a motel-style establishment, where you park outside your door. This is kind of nice as far as not hearing doors slam and people in hallways. I did hear some noise in the morning, but overall very quiet, as it was during the week. Room was updated and VERY clean. King-sized bed was extremely comfortable. It would have been nice to have a fan for background noise. Breakfast had some small extra touches, like lefse. We were in northern Minnesota, after all. Considering this was a less expensive option than other nearby hotels, I would stay again.

  • 5
« Very Nice Convenient Hotel »

A clean hotel in a great location. Close to coffee and some nice comfort food restaurants. Close parking and fast internet. The breakfast was very nice with a variety of options. Staff were very courteous and helpful.

    3
    « okay »

The cement outside was kind of slippery walking to breakfast each morning. It also would have been nice to have a working fan in the hotel room. They did have an A/C unit with a fan, but they are disabled during winter months.

    5
    « A cozy getaway »

My husband and I were looking for a quick and inexpensive winter weekend getaway close to home. We like the Detroit Lakes area, as it has beautiful scenery and some nice restaurant options, but isn't too crowded or hectic. Holland House had great reviews, and looked like a nice option. We were definitely pleased! Our room was on the very end of the outdoor access rooms connected to the lobby. It was spacious and clean, and quiet enough that we could almost trick ourselves into thinking we were in a cabin in the woods rather than a hotel room in town. The in-room jacuzzi was huge- make sure you start filling it long before you plan to get in! We enjoyed relaxing in the jacuzzi while watching a DVD borrowed from the hotel's own library, free with your stay. Breakfast was wonderful. There was a good selection, and the breakfast room is cozy and full of windows and natural light. We loved having our breakfast and hot drinks overlooking the snow outside. All the employees we interacted with were super friendly and helpful. There were no logistical issues, and we got a great night's sleep. Overall, I would highly recommend it!

    5
    « Will stay again »

Stayed three nights on a short vacation. Older facility but very well kept and updated. Everything was clean and well kept. we were in the lower level of the main building and it was a treat to walk out the door to our vehicle and load things we needed for the day.

    5
    « Awesome »

This place is amazing great service near everything even the lake is walking distance nice pool great hot tub water side for kids or big kids LOL very relaxing place They even have board games and DVD's you can check out.

    4
« Nice place to lay our weary heads »

This was a day spent driving long hours. It was so nice to find a cheery and clean place to stay at the end of a long day. Comfortable beds & very nice staff!!! It was quiet...we had a great nights sleep. Good coffee & breakfast.

    5
« Great place to stay! »

The Detroit Lakes Best Western Hotel is a great place to stay when I am on business in eth area. the rooms are always very neat and clean. The staff is very accommodating and the hot breakfast s a bonus! It is a great value.

    5
    « great stay! »

I never give 10s when I review places, but I did reviewing this. I thought this was an overall great location due to place, cleanliness and staff-the nicest people I have worked with at a hotel. my whole family enjoyed to location.

    4
« Last minute trip to DL »

We booked this room two days in advance. Staff was welcoming and accommodating. Pool was great for the kids, water slide and kiddie pool included! Free breakfast had many options and was better than most. Bed was comfy and the room was quiet. Overall, a nice stay. We'll definitely stay again.

    4
    « Beautiful Experience XCept 4 Sauna & TV »

Beautiful appearance inside and out, comfortable, nicely appointed rooms but sauna was cold with no clean towels and used towels strewn about the area resulting in messy, disappointing experience. Also, tv outdated with blurry reception and screen...watching tv was also disappointing and turned it off after a few minutes to read for a while as an alternative. No postage stamps available at reception desk also very disappointing as I had postcards I was hoping to mail.

  • 5
« Comfortable bed and quiet »

This hotel is located right off Hwy 10 in downtown Detroit Lakes. Very modern decor and comfortable bed. Hwy 10 is quite busy but you could not tell as the room was very quiet. Appears to have been recently renovated and the young lady working the desk knew how to process BW gift cards.

    5
« Great hotel, great staff! »

Hotel was clean, comfortable, and convenient. Great pool area and exercise room. Staff was great! Front desk clerk went out of his way to make a room switch for us that we didn't even ask for because it was a better fit for our stay. The hotel had been very booked when we made our reservation so we were happy to get the two rooms we needed even though in separate buildings. He had received a cancellation on a better room before we arrived and the switch made our family gathering far more comfortable.

    2
    « Cancellation »

Do not consider this hotel if you have even the smallest chance of having to cancel. If you want to cancel your room they require you to do so 3 days prior to your stay. Not a huge deal unless you make your reservation the day before. How is somebody supposed to cancel their room before they even have a room? Time Travel? Don't waste your time with this hotel. The service was terrible, they were very unwilling to help or even accommodate what I needed.

    5
« Great Service, nicely renovated »

We were on a motorcycle trip with friends and they checked us in early and located our rooms for easy access to our bikes. In the morning, after heavy rains, they provided towels to wipe down our bikes. Great service and nicely renovated rooms.

    5
    « Wonderful time! »

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel, it was very clean & comfortable. The staff was friendly & accommodating, eager to meet our needs if it was possible for them to do so. Our only disappointment was that the Hot Tub was out of order for most of our 3 day stay & that's something we look forward to every time we stay at a hotel. We understand these things happen, but it was still a disappointment.

    5
    « Best hotel stay »

This hotel is very clean, upscale and an affordable price. Staff are friendly and professional. Big screen TV. large rooms. Stylish décor. Bathroom was a bit tight and stylish counter was a bit high, however great! Liked that the breakfast items were separated from the sitting area, however it was tight due to so many guests in there at one time. I would for sure recommend this hotel for both business and pleasure. One of the best hotels I have stayed at!!

    3
    « Family Visit »

The room was average, was a bit disappointed with the odor of the room, but found it may have been in the air conditioner, with windows opened it was somewhat better. Was disappointed to find a dirty used towel hanging on the back of the bathroom door, The Continental breakfast was served very nicely and there was a nice area for eating.

    5
« no better hotel then here »

This a wonderful hotel with nicely remodelled rooms , great breakfast , wonderful pool and exercise gym. I have never stayed at a hotel with nicer staff , front desk to housekeeping. This is the only hotel I know that completely removes the air conditioner units every season and completely cleans them.

    4
« Great hotel, but pricey »

This is a nice hotel when staying in Detroit Lakes, MN. The staff are friendly, the breakfast selection is good and the wifi stays connected. However, over $200 per night after taxes is too much for a hotel especially when its a non-holiday weekend.

    5
    « Comfortable and accommodating »

I stayed at the Best Western PLUS with my two small dogs. The bed and room were very comfortable and the pet area was clean of animal waste. They do provide bags and is appears that pet owners use them. I do recommend this motel for travelers with or without pets.

  • 4
    « Thank you Vivian »

Vivian did a great job with my reservation and check out. We had one of the older lodge building rooms. It was small but clean. Good breakfast. We would stay again. Needed to contact housekeeping to get the room cleaned for the second night but they came right away.

    5
    « Wonderful Hotel »

Came home for 30 year class reunion. Was lucky enough to have a cancellation that opened up a room for us at the Holland House. Very happy with the exterior/interior look of the hotel. Very clean and comfortable. Best shower ever! Friendly staff. Will for sure stay there upon returning to Detroit Lakes.

    5
    « DFM »

I have never wrote a review on a motel/hotel and sleep in them 3 to 4 nights a week but had to open an account to explain why I would review this one. I have stayed at a lot of Best Western's with mixed results as well as high end stays (none are consistent even though they claim to be). Upon arriving I seen impeccable cleanliness of lobby, friendly organization. Rooms are modern and extremely clean , very quiet and for age of building described on their site it is in incredibly good shape . Will definitely recommend for business travelers as well as families that want to have an enjoyable stay at a reasonable cost.

    4
    « Just a one night stay »

Nice hotel, pool/waterslide/hot tub area is very nice. Pleasant staff, nice surroundings, but ask for a room not on the street side or you will hear trains all night. A little distance from the lake but the better rates reflect that.

    3
    « Average Motel »

I was surprised by our room slightly as I had read so many favorable reviews. The motel was fine but it certainly wasn't anything to brag about. The room was clean and basic, there weren't any fantastic views or impeccable highlights, but it certainly was adequate for a good nights sleep. FYI, the portion we stayed in was a motel, not a hotel so there may be other rooms that meet the glowing reviews found from others, but based upon my stay, its is just a small average motel.

    4
« Very Nice Clean Hotel »

I stay here each time I am in the area for work. I will stay at this hotel and then drive to may first appointment of the day instead of staying in one of those towns because of how much like the Hotel and Staff. Clean updated rooms and the Staff is always helpful with dinner recommendations. Also a nice breakfast with good options.

    4
    « Good breakfast, Park-at-the-room »

Great we could park in front of the room (Old days "Motel" Like) ... so convenient for getting packed and unpacked. Good location to the city and area. On a main drag. Staff was extremely friendly. Breakfast was surprisingly good. Much better than expected. I would stay here again, and return again to the area - VERY nice countryside we loved our stay here.

    4
    « Good overall »

Check in was fast, as I didn't have a reservation I was happy to find a room. The room was musty and smelled of old smoke, but I have come to expect that of older hotels. all in all I would stay there again.

    4
« nice stay with good sleep »

this was a business/casual during a convention. rooms where very nice and clean, breakfast was well above what I have had in the past with conventional breakfast. staff is very helpful and friendly. I did like how there was an entrance from the parking area for each room, made it very convenient and easy to get in. well lite parking lot in a very nice area of town

    4
« Very Good Place to Stay in Detroit Lakes »

Went to Detroit Lakes for the annual Street Faire. Staff at the hotel went out of their way at check-in to find us a restraunt that was still open when we arrived for a late arrival. Room was old, but was pleasantly updated with new furnishings and bath fixtures. Very quiet, even though hotel was full. Will stay again...

  • 4
« Cute family fun place! »

Pool area was small but the water slide was fun for kids and when we were there, the pool was full of kids and they were all having fun! The staff was super friendly and it was like a little hometown hotel.

    4
    « Not bad »

Old style motel/hotel just off the lake next to US10. Beds were comfy, good selection of TV channels. Friendly service. Typical continental breakfast. No complaints but nothing too spectacular. They do have a pool and waterside but I didn't use it.

    5
    « Nice Place »

The Room was clean and had plugins on lamps. They had a Nice pool and hot tub and pool slide that was open a couple hours in the evening. They had a delicious breakfast with lots of options. I liked their waffle maker that made four small waffles at a time.

    4
« Nice place to stay, good breakfast! »

Staff was very friendly and helpful! We were a group and they made sure our rooms are next to each other. Very clean! I didn't get to try the pool area but they did have a hot tub and water slide. The breakfast was nice, too. Good for business and pleasure!

    « Don't even bother to shop around !!! »

My family's favorite placed to stay. Great service, great rooms,(even the hallways are interesting, featuring area photos from the past), and a great pool area with a waterslide !!! And the Breakfast is always excellent, with a wide variety of hot and cold items to fit any diet and appetite. If I am going to stay in Detroit Lakes, I never even price shop or question it, this is our favorite place. Have never had a bad experience, or an employee that was not interested in the greatest comfort for our stay. THIS IS TRULY HOW A MOTEL SHOULD BE RUN, AN EXAMPLE FOR ALL TO FOLLOW. HATS OFF TO THE HOLLAND HOUSE !!!!

    « Very Family Friendly »

The many physical updates in process last year at this time were completed and are excellent improvements. The pool area again is sought out by families with children of all ages and the 2 story water slide is a big hit. Had sliders from in the 60's down to 16 months!!

« Nice Place and a waterslide to boot. »

This is nice 2 plus hotel. Doors open to the outside but this place is a big step up from the typical hotel of that nature. I believe all the rooms are entry level, as in no stairs for the most part. Nice big rooms, nicely put together inside as well as outside. There is a great workout area, pool, hot tub, 130 some feet water slide. I was tempted to try it out but no one else was in the pool area and people might start to wonder about the 60 year guy screaming in delight in the ?other room?. Breakfast is pretty good, maybe a cut above standard fare. Nice area but I think you want a car to go anywhere. Just a very comfy room for about a c-note.

« Convenient place to stay. The rooms were new. »

We stayed here because of some training in the Detroit Lakes area at Mn State Tech. Since the company was paying, I didn't want to pay extra to stay on the lake. The room was awesome. The pool was fun. Breakfast was really good for an included breakfast. I would recommend to anyone.

« Family Friendly and CLEAN »

Staff was friendly and helpful. The room was very clean. And the beds were comfortable. My kids loved the waterslide and pool! The waterslide doesn't end with a dunking in deep water so even my 6 year old enjoyed it thoroughly. They also offer an area to borrow movies and board games, which is great. Very family friendly hotel that the kids will love!

    « Very pleased! »

I was a little nervous driving up to this hotel but it was actually REALLY nice. We were in room 19 and it was pretty spacious. Had 2 beds and a pull out couch. A desk area. A fridge and microwave. The bathroom was small but nice. The rooms were clean. The pool area was very nice and seemed to be well enjoyed by kids. The breakfast was OUTSTANDING. Waffles, yogurt, fruit, bagels, toast, caramel rolls, cereal, milk, juice, coffee, tea and even had LEFSE! The staff was super friendly as well. Always had a smile on their face. I would highly recommend this place.

« Nice place to stay »

Very clean rooms. Pet friendly, but the rooms were clean and did not smell of pets at all. Very pleased with the rooms. Had extra family come over to use the pool and waterslide and the front desk gave extra wrist bands at check in for that. Nice check in and check out experience.

    « What a nice motel! »

My sister and I with one of our children each made an impromptu visit to see family in Detroit Lakes between Christmas and New Year's. We hadn't been to Detroit Lakes before so didn't know which motel would be best for us. But since we all love to swim and enjoy waterparks, she booked us two rooms at the Best Western Holland House. We were impressed with everything. The rooms we had were on the first floor with outside entrances that we could park in front of so we didn't have to lug anything through the snow or up steps. The rooms were decorated very tastefully and the sink area was laid out in a new way to us, with the microwave, coffeemaker, and little fridge right there. The bathroom didn't have a tub but rather a shower with a curtain only, which seemed strange at first, but then we realized it was wheelchair accessible and the water didn't go beyond the curtain anyway. The bathroom was completely tiled, floor to ceiling. The continental breakfast was very good, with make your own pancakes as well as waffles, eggs, ham, hard boiled eggs, cereals, bagels, and other items, including LEFSE, which was an awesome holiday surprise for us Norwegians. The breakfast area also had plenty of seating and a large screen TV. The pool area was warm, hot tub large and tiled, the pool large and actually had a true deep end of 8'6" as well as a shallow end with steps into it, there was a water "mushroom" for the little ones, and the water slide was supervised and quite curvy and fast. We also noticed that there was always coffee and lemon water available in the lobby. Since this was the best motel I have stayed at in recent memory, we plan to return or stay at the sister property on the lake when we visit again. If you stay here I doubt you'll be disappointed!

« Clean, pet freindly, hotel!! Close to Skiing!! »

This hotel has a super fitness center that over looks the pool. Pets are accepted. Outside entry is a plus! Parking outside room door. I will be back and will tell friends about this hotel. It is located less than 5 minutes from Detroit Mountain. It has a pool and slide which are great for the kids and a nice fitness center for adults. Complete package for family wanting to ski or do outdoor activities.

    « Wonderful stay »

I had to travel on short notice for business. A received excellent service and wonderful accommodations at Holland House in Detroit Lakes, Mn. At the check-in desk, they made sure I knew about the morning breakfast, and they included the internet password in the small envelope with my card key. I was set for a good rest before having to travel again the next day.

    « Family Christmas »

Everyone was very professional and kind. We have had our family Christmas here for the last at least 10 years, and we plan on doing this for many more years.......We are treated like family from the minute we walk in the door.....even beforehand, when Tammie calls to see if we are still planning on our annual stay, and how many rooms we may need as our family continues to grow....

« Unfortunate circumstances lead to a poor stay »

I left my earrings in the room upon check out. When I called the hotel one hour later, the manager went to the room to look. The front desk person called me back and said the earrings were not recovered. I am not acusing anyone of theft, however the facts of the matter are that I am 100% sure I checked in wearing the earrings and checked out forgetting them, only to find that they were not recovered. This makes me very upset and likely to not choose Best Western again. It was my mistake to leave the earrings, however I am very disappointed that I was not able to have them returned to me upon check out.

I am very impressed with this hotel. The room is great, very clean, I do wish they had better soap and shampoo, that to me is important. Lit up pretty for Christmas, and Christmas music playing. They offer free movies to check out for your room. I am very happy with my choice here, plus the military discount makes it very affordable.

    « Great motel »

I'd been driving all day, in dark, cloudy weather and was ready to stop. I saw this Best Western and decided to check it out. The desk clerk was friendly and helpful. I wound up in the front building, in the back, where each room has its own parking space right in front of the door. When I opened the door, I was surprised. It's a large room with a huge king sized bed; it has all the amenities, including fridge, microwave, big screen TV, desk for computer and plenty of available outlets for chargers. And, the place is spotlessly clean. A great room, clean, quiet, comfortable and a decent price. A great place to stay.

    « Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover »

Stayed here for a wedding in early October. I'll admit, as we drove up at 9:00 at night I at first had a sketchy feeling about this place. However, once we actually got into our room I was pleasantly surprised. As many other reviews say this place is spotless, white glove clean. So don't be turned off by the outside entrance rooms, this was a very nice couple of nights in a clean room!

    « Very satisfied! »

We were lucky enough to select Best Western Plus after driving into town on a whim. The evening desk man, Kent, was very helpful even though he was getting hit with 3-4 other patrons all at the same time, and did it with a sense of humor and efficiency. The rooms were clean, very nice, and the breakfast bar was easily the nicest I've ever seen.
