The Croft Hotel, Signature Collection, Darlington

Croft Hotel was a great venue for the Masquerade Ball we attended. It was very well organized and we were well looked after. Staff was always visible if we needed anything. Was fun night and the food was lovely.

We held our first annual Christmas party at The Croft Hotel, the first of many ! It was a great night, the food was first class and table service was superb!! They also provided a DJ who was fab!! I cannot recommend The Croft Hotel highly enough

The executive suite { room 4 } was very spacious, clean, a large bathroom and a very comfy bed. The restaurant was for the evening meal and breakfast was lovely and serviced by very friendly staff. From parking the car until leaving it was an excellent hotel experience.

Lovely rooms (spotless), comfy beds, great service by friendly staff. Bathroom in particular was newly renovated. Nice view out to the front of the Tees. Highly recommended for a business trip (or for any other reason, come to that). Would definitely rebook when in the area.

Excellent weekend with a large group of friends from various parts of the country. Weekend comprised of 2 night stay and a special format dinner on Saturday evening in the function room. Bedrooms were very comfortable and spacious and the meal was excellent. We took advantage of the main restaurant for one other evening meal and that too was first class. The management and staff are warm and friendly and expertly catered for our special event with enthusiasm . Hats off to The Croft Hotel.

We held our wedding here and John the general manager was fantastic in making our day really special. The pre-planning was done to our needs. The venue was beautiful, the rooms clean and comfortable. The bridal suite met and exceeded our expectations. The food was amazing at every meal and the buffet was wonderful. We would thoroughly recommend the Croft Hotel and want to thank John and his team for making our day perfect.

Well, what can I say, beautiful hotel, gorgeous clean rooms, amazing staff, especially John (GM) he is worth his weight in gold! Nothing was too much trouble and my best friends wedding went without a hitch (apart from the obvious one!) I was one of the bridesmaids and the florist (Serendipity Floral Design, Basingstoke) for the wedding, A conference room was made available for me to work in & throughout my stay, John was checking to ensure me & my family had everything we needed, which we did. The breakfast was delicious and even my fussy children were catered for The wedding breakfast was served in good time, everyone was well looked after & it tasted divine! Reasonably priced food & drinks Lovely, warm, welcoming environment and well set up for weddings and guests alike

Can't thank Ami & the staff enough for making our day so special, each and every member of staff went above and beyond to make sure our day ran smoothly. Everyone commented on how beautiful the food was and how perfect the room looked. I would highly recommend this venue for a wedding !! Thank you all so much

I had my 60th birthday party at Croft. It was absolutely brilliant. The staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for us, lots people stayed overnight in the hotel and everyone was very happy with the quality and comfort of the rooms. The catering was faultless, there was so much food and really good quality. I would highly recommend Croft Hotel for any celebration event as all our needs were met, it was a fantastic night. Thanks to all with special mention to Amy, Laura, Jo and Jade and the chefs in the kitchen, they were outstanding but all members of staff were exemplary. Breakfast was also lovely and good quality. We will definitely be back.

We had a nice stay, 3 day stay in this hotel .Modern rooms with easy access sockets for phone. Desk with good light and comfortable beds. Restaurant food was nice, service staff friendly and helpful. No lift.

Stayed at the Croft over a long weekend. The staff could not have been more helpful,the rooms were comfortable and the food and service in the restaurant was excellent. Very friendly atmosphere and pleasant surrounding. The hotel has had a reburb and now has a much more Contemporary Look. Nice bar area and the restaurant is very pleasant.

I stayed at The Croft Hotel, where I was attending a motor sports event nearby. The hotel was very clean and tidy and the staff were very friendly and polite and nothing was any trouble at all. The food was excellent and the bar area was very spacious and the atmosphere was very relaxed. The rooms were spotless and comfartable. I would certainly stay there again. Excellent service.

We attended a surprise 40th birthday party at the Croft Hotel last night. We booked a room bed and breakfast and we have to say that the whole experience of the Croft Hotel was amazing. Everything went smoothly from start to finish and the staff were happy, attentive and nothing was too much trouble - what an amazing evening. The room was spotless and the breakfast was to die for. Highly recommend this hotel and a big thank you to ALL of the staff who made the stay and event great!

We live close to The Croft Hotel, but had never ventured inside until last week. Wow, The Croft Hotel is a hidden gem, it's lovely inside, food is great, service is fantastic! Pay a visit, you won't be disappointed!!

Spent four days and enjoyed every minute. It's a traditional Inn set in a lovely location, near the river and quaint villages. From the first moment we were treated so well by all of the staff. The room was spacious and comfortable. The public spaces were excellent. We had lovely evening meals and the full English breakfast. Could not wish for anything more, well done

From the moment we walked into the hotel we were welcomed by the friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere. The check in process was very quick and efficient. Our room was very clean, large and very comfortable. The hotel is ideally situated with walks along the river Tees and a nearby village. It is also very convenient for trips into Darlington.

Very reasonably priced . Plenty of parking. Very comfortable bed . Well appointed room with fridge and hairdryer. Breakfast was good but they were clearly suffering from lack of staff / new staff resulting in niggles . ( Yogurt brought out after full English . No spoon . No toast brought out at all on first day even after ordering) The hotel bar could be better stocked . The lounge is comfortable. Would return if in the area No lift .

Can't fault this hotel at all, lovely decor, so clean, rooms are beautiful and staff are so friendly. Our room had everything you required, was quiet, so clean and modern. Little gem of a place. We will be back

Lovely Hotel that we have stayed at numerous times. We stayed in room 4 which was a lovely suite on 1st floor. Staff are all friendly and attentive. Food great as usual. Nice Restaurant. Great deal for dinner, bed and breakfast including wine. Will definitely be back!

A last-minute booking while travelling up the A1, as a change from the usual Scotch Corner options, and so worth the small detour. A quiet village location and a grand old inn, newly and stylishly refurbished. The service through reception, dinner, breakfast and departure was first-class - attentive, friendly and fun. Special mention for coeliac/gluten-free catering - they knew what was required and offered plenty of choices. An absolute find, which we will undoubtedly use again.

Nice friendly staff ,clean tidy room, big shower room,evening meals good portions reasonable priced nice breakfast no room service duo to covid restrictions but that was to be expected in these present times.Enjoyed our visit will return at another time.

Where to start, my wife and I held our wedding reception here and we couldn't ask for a more perfect day!! From the planning stages and rearranging stages due to covid Ami couldn't of been more helpful, nothing was a problem to her and her input was extremely helpful. Nothing was missed and every detail was noted and acted on. In the week leading up to the wedding what I would call the stressful stage they made things so easy. Extra rooms, last minute changes was all just taken in there stride. On the night before the wedding several guests arrived and were made to feel more than welcome. The day of the wedding nothing and I mean nothing was a problem. John had every detail taken care of and took time out of his busy schedule to speak to us both make sure everything was going to plan. Everything was perfect all our guests complimented how nice the food was and how great the service was. Several compliments on the rooms and the breakfast the next morning. Chef did an amazing job, John did an amazing job, Ami did an amazing job and hats off to all the other staff that made our day so fantastic. We can't thank you all enough

A massive thank you to the staff, for the most wonderful stay. We were at my husband son wedding and it was amazing. The food was fantastic, definitely not your usual wedding feast, all fresh and very tasty ❤️. The staff were very professional and nice to boot. Will definitely be back xx

We have stayed at this hotel several times and the service, the food and the accommodation is second to none. Without doubt, we will return within the near future for another few days. I or we, have no hesitation in recommending this property.

The staff are great and can't do enough for you, whilst the rooms are incredibly spacious. We were upgraded to what must have been a family room, which was huge. There is no safe in the room and the little fridge in the room hardly worked, which was a blow, as we stayed on a super hot night in July. The hotel is not air conditioned, so our night was extremely uncomfortable as the hot air rises in the hotel towards the bedrooms. A fan was placed in the room by way of assistance, but that simply pushed more hot air around the room. Opening the window, simply brought in the noise from the busy A Road immediately outside, which starts with the lorries rolling down from around 5am and carries on throughout the day and night. So my night existed of little sleep in a pool of unpleasant sweat. The large bathroom does not have a curtain or blind covering the frosted window, so opening the window, simply means the lorry drivers got a flash of my bare backside first thing in the morning. Not a lot I could do about that, so apologies to those driving down the A167 around 7.30am

My dad's wedding was held here and we stayed overnight. The Hotel is well kept,clean and the staff were very friendly. Everything from check in to breakfast was of a high standard. Very happy with the overall service would recommend.

I travelled later than usual to the hotel for a meeting the next day. I normally stay elsewhere but I felt like a change. I came across this hotel doing a BW search and I'm glad I did. It felt more personal and friendlier than other hotel chains with the staff making it enjoyable. From check in to check out they were all helpful and asking if all was well but not in a pushy way. I will return.

This is a nice hotel with good rooms on the ground floor which are easy to access if you have mobility problems. The downside slightly of these is the road noise outside. A decent fair priced dinner menu

I can't fault this hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, all the staff were exceptional and we enjoyed a delicious dinner in the restaurant. I'd made the booking when the BW 48 for 48 was on, so I got the room for a bargain price. I would happily visit the hotel again and pay full price!

Lovely hotel in quiet location. The staff were fabulous - friendly and extremely helpful. There were 4 of us travelling and we had 2 rooms which were both very different. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. The bathrooms were modern with walk in showers. We didn't eat at the hotel as we arrived late and were only staying 1 night so cannot comment on the dining. Its a gem of a hotel and we hope to go back again for a longer stay.

We spent three nights at the Best Western Plus Croft Hotel near Darlington. The staff were all fabulous - nothing ever seemed too much trouble, they were friendly, were happy and just made the whole stay a really positive one. What lovely people! The food was also amazing - we hadn't planned to eat in, but I am so glad we did. The first night's dinner was so good we decided to eat in on the following two nights as well! Breakfast was also good. Menus varied slightly each day. Portions were absolutely huge (breakfast and dinner). We had room 8 which is a suite on the first floor which looks out over the front of the hotel. You do hear traffic noise (windows were open due to the warm weather), however I would definitely ask for this room again! The ensuite is twice the size of my bathroom at home with a lovely large shower! Surprisingly for an old building there is no noise from the plumbing, which is all very modern. The bedroom is also large, and we had a sofa bed set up in an area just off the main bedroom area. There was a fridge and two comfortable chairs. Very clean. The main car park is at the back of the hotel, with an entrance into reception. Very convenient location for Croft racing circuit, and there is apparently a footpath across a field to the circuit (about 35 minutes) though I cannot confirm that as we went in the car (about 5 minutes). Also convenient for Darlington town centre (about 8 minutes) which was very nice to visit - you even get two free hours parking in the multistorey car park. As you can probably tell, I highly recommend staying here!

Fantastic Sunday Lunch, nothing too much trouble from all staff, Food was fantastic, we all chose beef, which was superb and the selection of vegetables was amazing. Portion size was extremely generous

Let's start with the positives. Lovely comfortable room, really friendly staff, Great breakfast and meal we had in the evening was excellent too. The only disappointment was whilst the hotel is situated in a lovely area friends had their car broken into. This is obviously not the hotels fault but the fact there is no cctv in operation at the front or rear of the building I find quite amazing in this day and age. It may be a listed building I would imagine, but there are plenty of ways this can be overcome to get cctv installed. So be aware of this when booking and don't leave anything in your motors. I have left the hotel with 4 star but would of been 5 without break in.

We had stayed at this hotel a number of years ago and it was fairly run down and unappealing. Since then considerable changes have been made, all for the good, with much improved room standards together with upgraded bar/restaurant areas. We stayed over Valentine's weekend and took advantage of their special menu. We were more than happy with the quality of the food and price. The only thing consistent with the last time we stayed was the weather - two days of rain, meaning we couldn't take advantage of the close proximity to the river Tees and the walking options.

The Croft is a beautiful old but modern and charming place. The food was excellent and the staff were very helpful welcoming & friendly. Our room was great, large bathroom /bedroom and spotless. Thanks to you all for making our stay lovely.

We decided to stay here again after thouroghly enjoying our previous stay in 1990 (32 years ago) The hotel is exceptionally clean the staff are helpful and very friendly. We had dinner in the restaurant which was a credit to the chef, the breakfast was excellent also, cooked to order with quality products. We would definitely recommend this hotel if in the area.

Had Sunday lunch Sunday 15th May. The beef was inedible spoke to two staff members both shrugged (sorry).Ended up having a vegetarian di nner .My wife and I had used the Croft on other occasions service very slow but meals were good.Decided to try again the service was good but the beef for Sunday lunch was terrible we could not eat it.

My husband and I stayed here for a night away on a dinner b&b and bottle of wine stay, absolute bargain for the price we paid. Staff really friendly and attentative, room clean and well presented. Food was amazing, great portions and great quality. Nice riverside walk just across the road, Darlington city centre only a 10 minute drive away, would recommend.

We have stayed at this hotel on several occasions and have always had a nice quiet pleasant stay. All our staff contact was pleasant and cheerful. The cooked breakfast was freshly cooked and tasty and plentiful. Room was nice and clean. Would happily recommend and will be staying again when in the area.

We had our wedding on Easter Monday and we had a fantastic day. From the initial wedding enquiry the guests arriving from the Sunday and the complete wedding on the Monday everything was faultless. All our guests commented on the food and said how good it was and there was more than enough. Some guests even said it was the best wedding they had been to and what a great venue we had chosen. John, Ami, Lauren and all the staff couldn't be more helpful and hardworking and made our day so special. We can't thank them enough.

Attended a wedding on Easter Monday and we can honestly say that everything was fabulous. Our room was clean, spacious and well presented. The extras like the fridge were very useful. The wedding was well managed, beautifully presented and ran seamlessly from the ceremony right through to the evening reception. The food was generous, tasty and well presented as were the freshly cooked breakfasts from the two mornings we stayed. The staff were courteous and attentive. We will be staying again in the future. Thanks for making our stay a pleasant experience.

Excellent service to check in on busy holiday weekend. Comfy room excellently decorated. Staff very helpful. Too early for breakfast Easter Monday but packed a yogurt and light breakfast for early drive to airport. Room fine, bed good. Bathroom and amenities newly remodeled and good. Didn't get to figure heating or cooling, may get warm in summer, like most uk hotels no fly screens.

First choice of venue when visiting family. Never disappoints, and always made to feel welcome by each & every member of staff. Clean room with regular supply of fresh towels etc. Good food & hearty breakfasts. John, the Manager, very attentive when trying to order taxi in time to get me to station. Sincere thanks to you all.

Forst time we have had lunch here and it was fantastic. We both had a roast beef dinner and for dessert we had Lemon tart and wofe a chocolate brownie with ice cream The was loads of veg to accompany the dinner and everything was perfectly cooked and the staff were very attentive,the hotel was well patronized when we were there. A lovely visit to The Croft Hotel for lunch with family on Mothers Day. The hotel is very nicely furnished . We were greeted warmly and all the staff very very attentive. A great Sunday lunch good choices and my particular favourite was the feta and pine nut salad. Thank you to John the general manager for making our day out so special.

Our second visit to this beautifully refurbished hotel. We had sunday lunch. Absolutely beautiful. The menu was superb. All the dishes sounded mouth watering. The staff were very attentive and any food allergy or intolerances were met without anything being compromised. Highly recommend

We had a deal through my hotel.com and the room was clean, tidy and little amenities where covered such as USB points. The evening meal was stupendous and top notch and the portions were healthy. The staff were amazing and friendly and helpful. Could not recommend enough

The place was quite funky but smart mix of contemporary and traditional. Rather smart. Loved the log fire stoves. Rooms very nice and well equipped. The food in the restaurant was good, slightly let down by choice of beers and no cocktails

Great service by all, made very welcome. The evening meal with a free bottle of wine and an overnight stay with the deal we took was absolutely spot on. Along with the full English breakfast. Plenty of parking front and back. No lifts. Dog friendly. Beautiful roaring log fires.

This hotel is well located near the coast and with pleasant countryside nearby. Myself and my wife wanted a nice relaxing break to celebrate my birthday. On arrival we were greeted by very friendly staff who could not do enough to make our stay as comfortable as possible. A very cosy lounge bar with log burning fires was ideal for relaxing with a drink after a day out exploring. We changed our evening dining time 3 times one night and it was still no trouble for the staff. The food was cooked to perfection and added to our enjoyment. I would not hesitate to stay there again in the future.

I can highly recommend The Croft Hotel for 1 night or weekend stopover. The room was lovely, clean, modern and spacious with a comfortable also which guaranteed a great nights sleep. The staff were very polite and helpful plus the hotel itself was clean and fresh throughout. We only stayed one night and had a lovely night out in nearby Yarm. Breakfast was lovely and where again we had super attentive and prompt service. Overall we had a lovely stay and would definitely stay again when we are in the area.

Just back from another trip to this Hotel to stay in the Bridal Suite. The spa bath is the reason we keep coming back to stay, as I have osteoporosis and the spa bath is the best thing for easing my aching bones. I think this is the 5th or 6th time we have stayed in this suite and it is a joy each time. The food at the hotel is made to order and each meal we have had has tasted amazing. The staff at the hotel are always on hand to help in anyway they can. We will certainly be re-booking.

Stayed for one night (with our dog!) in one of the ‘dog friendly rooms' and had a fab time. Room very comfortable, great bathroom and food absolutely off the scale. Great place for a short break and would definitely recommend - we will be returning.

Visited for Christmas Day lunch with my mother and daughter. From start to finish it was perfect. Staff were welcoming. Our lunch was excellent. We didn't feel rushed even though they had 2 sittings and we were the first. Thank you for making our Christmas Day special.

We regularly stay at this hotel as it is very convenient for our purpose. Always friendly, very clean and good food. Ample free parking and the hotel is in a really good setting. The hotel is sited on a main road but is relatively noise free overnight.

We attended The Croft Hotel for a wedding, and the venue was really beautiful, the service from all members of staff was brilliant, and it was all-round a really fun night. We only had one problem - with the room we had. But this was through no fault of the hotel or staff; the previous guests of the room were to be blamed. However, the staff on the night did everything they could to rectify and having spoken with the General Manager John afterwards, he has also went out of his way to make sure we are happy and taken care of. With the team turning around our only bad part of the night I'd be happy to stay again in future. One-off issues can't be helped but dealing with them so well and with such a high level of customer service makes the difference.

We had the best time staying at the Croft Hotel. We were pleasantly surprised by the dinner and the price and loved the atmosphere. John the receptionist went above and beyond to help our needs and we can't thank him enough. He made our stay stress free and we are grateful for his kindness.

Room 25 was described as a suite but was normal size room with a recess housing a very uncomfortable sofa, chair and table in an awkward arrangement that meant you could not watch t.v from sofa..just look at traffic island through window. Very clean, good bedding flat pillows. Very chilly, but an electric heater was in wardrobe if needed. P!easant staff. Meal ok. Log fire made bar cosy. Negative was sleep was disturbed all night due to smoke detector flashing a bright light every 13 seconds all night long directly i to my eyes. Reported to reception in morning, other than saying she would report it, not very interested. Given the main function of hotel was to provide a good nightx sleel, I found this disappointing. Other than that a very good hotel

The hotel is in a lovely location close to the river, the public areas are very nice, clean and tidy, our room (14) was also clean and well decorated with a king size bed and mini fridge the bathroom was also first class with a great shower, unfortunately the room was cold as the radiator did not work we informed reception and eventually an electric heater was forthcoming. we had dinner in the hotel and were very disappointed with the menu which was not in our experience up to pub menu standard with no fish options, only offering Scampi, we settled on a steak and burger and waited patiently to be fed, after 50 minutes we complained asking were dinner was as by this time we were both hungry , eventually after a good hour after ordering our food arrived which was just okay. Breakfast the following morning fortunately was excellent cooked to order and well served.

On arrival we found that someone on the staff had moved us from a ground floor room as requested to a first floor room. However that was soon sorted by the receptionist. We enjoyed every meal, but the shining light was the breakfast. Whatever you want was served to us, I particularly loved the bacon. Just a shame there were no hash browns. There were also supply problems with the wine and towels. The staff, however, were brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble for Callum and crew, everything was done with a smile. The hotel itself was spotless. I would certainly recommend it

Stayed 1 night DBB breaking our journey back to Scotland on Saturday 9 October. This is a very old traditional hotel which dominates the charming old village of Croft-on-Tees, right beside the church and the road bridge over the River Tees, right on the border with Richmondshire. It appears to be a popular wedding venue, but this does not detract at all from it's charm. The ground floor public areas (bar, lounge, function rooms, restaurant) offer plenty of comfortable cozy areas to relax. Our £25 per person dinner allowance on the myhotelbreak deal was more than adequate, and the quality and portions were excellent. We particularily liked the fact that the entire breakfast is waiter served, so no "buffet scramble". Excellent quality and generous portions. Our room was in an extended part of the building some distance from the main staircase, but this had the advantage of being quiet. The room was warm, clean, comfortable, particularily the beds, with 42 inch freeview TV. Our ensuite was pretty new, and therefore excellent. We would have loved to stay longer, and will therefore definately be back for a longer stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed everything about the Croft hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotels decor is lovely and modern but still kept its historic side. Our room had a large TV built in to end of bed. We had an evening meal which was excellent, as was the breakfast. The staff's service was superb in all areas. The atmosphere in the bar area was relaxing with popular music playing softly in the background. Would certainly go back if we were to go this area again.

Firstly I would like to say the biggest thank you to John and all his team and staff that made our day one to remember. The level of professionalism and care we received were second to none. Everything from organising prior to the day, last minute adjustments for guests, the faultless service we and our guests received during the wedding was truly amazing, nothing was too big of an ask or a problem and you were always greeted/served with a smile. Our day ran smoothly with no issues. The ceremony/wedding breakfast rooms were beautiful, coupled with the lovely decorated bar area to which all our guests commented on how much of a stunning/homely venue it is. The 3 course wedding breakfast was received with many compliments on how delicious it was with generous portions... it was some of the best food they have ever eaten. Our stay in the bridal suite was a much needed break after such a busy day... lovely, clean and stocked with various toiletries to ensure we were able to relax. Breakfast was promptly delivered to our room the following morning which was also high quality and again served with a smile. We would highly recommend anyone to have their wedding/event here with John and his team. Thank you again for everything Mr & Mrs Freeman-Cooper

A lovely hotel with very friendly staff. I booked an evening meal and breakfast package which was great value for money. The hotel is in a very convenient location (just off the A1) for travelling up to Scotland.

Stayed here recently for 2 nights as needed a base in the area for the weekend. Lovely hotel and very friendly staff, my room and public areas all very clean. Good choice of breakfast which was a very generous portion and had one evening meal in the restaurant, very tasty and filling. The village of Croft on Tees is very quiet but close to Darlington and the A1M for travelling around. Wouldn't hesitate to book again.

We stayed for a nice night away together and were treat wonderfully by all at the croft, our room was beautiful, we really can't find fault at all and will be back soon x thankyou to all at the croft x

What a lovely little hotel. Great staff, extremely professional. Fabulous and wholesome food. Room was good, comfortable and clean. This was on a Great British Breaks Deal. Cost was 129 for DBB and a bottle of wine per couple. Loved Ash, George and Lorna last night at Dinner. Chef was great also. They made a catch up overnighter very memorable. Thank you xxx

We stayed here for just 1 night and were upgraded to the bridal suite on a dbb and wine deal, it was lovely ,staff were really nice , very helpful , and always smiling, the food was faultless, large piping hot portions and especially good breakfast and our room was delightful. Lauren and all of the team at the Croft Hotel provided excellent service that many 5 star hotels would struggle to match. Professional and friendly they made our stay very enjoyable. These guys should be commended.

Stayed 2 nights 25th and 26th August 2021 hotel clean room clean friendly staff. excellent breakfast. You will not starve here good portions in the restaurant. will be booking again in the near future.

Good location on main road close to Darlington and A1. Plenty of car parking. On arrival efficient check in. No lift and quite a few stairs to some rooms. TV did not work in one of our rooms but told by reception the North East had experienced a major fire to mast. However, Maria was fantastic and re tuned the TV in no time. Window did not open in one of the bedrooms but fan provided in both rooms. Superior room worth paying extra as standard twin did not have enough space to put clothes for 4 nights for 2 people. Room included fridge and safe we did not need but would have preferred drawers for clothes. Due to covid rooms could not be cleaned bit fresh towel (only 1 for 2 people), toilet roll, and fish tea and coffee etc provided after 2 days. Breakfast limited due to covid and food was good quality and hot bit we asked for yoghurt and fruit which could not provided. Seeing as we were staying for 4 nights we thought this could have been an option as not everybody wants hot food. Toast often brought first and went cold before other food arrived. We would stay here again but do feel hotel could make some simple changes to show their 4 star status. Please include hot choc in rooms too as my son loves this as a bedtime treat.

We stayed for 3 nights. The staff were all good, the food was good with substantial portions and the hotel was spotlessly clean. The only draw back for some is that there is no lift and the stair may be an issue. There is ample free car parking and we will definitely stay there again.

Living in nearby Darlington we'd driven past this hotel 100's of times over the years, but never considered it as a venue to stop over. However, as a spontaneous anniversary treat & with a deal available for bed, breakfast, evening meal & wine - we took advantage and had a thoroughly pleasant Tuesday afternoon and night. Having already checked in online we arrived about 2pm. Being honest the receptionist was somewhat ‘cold' and we didn't get a customary welcome as is normal at most hotels. It was more like being welcomed by a solicitors receptionist when arriving for an appointment to make a will. However, our surroundings and the lovely family suite we were given soon made up for things. The room was perfect; well laid out, spacious, modern and immaculately clean. Perhaps as may be expected in a building over 200 years old there was visible deterioration in some external areas when looking out from our room and the single glazed wooden sash windows appeared original. The hotel is literally on the banks of the River Tees with signposted footpaths immediately to hand. However, we opted to walk over the bridge (from North Yorkshire into County Durham) up into the local village of Hurworth which has a couple of pubs and a picturesque village green setting. Where the hotel really excelled was our evening meal. All courses were amazing. Beautiful cooked, well presented and extremely generous portion sizes. We were served by Callum and a female colleague (sorry we didn't get her name!) They were both fairly young but genuinely friendly, helpful and courteous. Callum in particular had a lovely demeanour and was a natural behind the bar and table waiting alike. We wish him every best wishes for his future within the hospitality industry. So overall the hotel really did impress and I've already recommended it to numerous friends and colleagues. We both look forward to a repeat visit.

Very friendly and welcoming staff, lovely area, nice to sit outside with a drink nr the beautiful flower areas , Lovely food, Lovely room , very spacious , will be nice to return in winter time as will be nice to sit by the fire in central fireplace area . Looks like there is a lovely walk by the river to do as well, and so nr to where the famous Lewis Carroll originated who created Alice in wonderland , wonderful stay all round . Wow!!! Where do I begin. The Croft hosted our wedding reception including evening so on 7th August 2021. I had very high expectations after reading other reviews and learning about the hotel having won an award for weddings however still could not have anticipated how fantastic it would be. THANK YOU ALL so much. Our wedding was absolutely perfect and we will cherish the memories forever. Our wedding was originally planned for August 2020 but was sadly postponed due to covid. During this difficult period the staff have been nothing but supportive and reassuring and moved our date with no issue or extra cost. The staff in general have been absolutely amazing. Every person we spoke to on the phone was more than helpful and the general manager always more than happy to answer any questions we might have. On the day the service was second to none. Special thanks to Jon the most recent general manager and Amy the wedding planner who were both present throughout our wedding day and couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful. The day just ran so incredibly smoothly and their attention to detail was fantastic. We had a large wedding of almost 100 guests plus additional evening guests with about 25% staying overnight. On the Friday night the main wedding party had a pre- wedding meal together after our church rehearsal with many guests also staying the Friday night too. From start to finish the food was exceptional. This included the meals on Friday night, our 3 course wedding breakfast, a selection on canapés, hot evening buffet and breakfast both mornings for the guests that stayed overnight. We were able to give our guests a choice of 3 options for each wedding breakfast course and having personally tasted them all, I can attest they were all delicious and very generous portions! The Croft also provided an alternate option for several vegan guests including a choice of canapé and alternative evening buffet choice. The hotel itself was immaculate and has been extremely well attended to with lots of little details such as the beautiful flowers outside. We had our drinks reception in the bar area before moving through to the two huge function rooms for our wedding breakfast and night do. The rooms looked absolutely stunning!!! Safron and Sage florist and Ultrasound events came recommended by the Croft so we used their services for the room decor including table flowers and candelabras (Safron and Sage) and DJ set up, dance floor hire, sweet car hire and uplighting (Ultrasound Events). The rooms are so mindfully and tastefully decorated that they will work extremely well with any colour scheme. I will review the other vendors separately but I will say here that they were also fantastic! We absolutely loved the bridal suite room with the separate upstairs dressing area and giant hot tub bath! We chose to stay on another night and could easily have stayed a few more. We had planned on going out for a nice meal somewhere else however we're so cosy we didn't want to leave the room and ate dinner in the bar area instead! We paid nearly quadruple the price for 3 nights away elsewhere for our ‘mini moon' and both agreed we preferred the food and room at the Croft! The value for money is excellent. I know I am extremely biased but I can honestly say it was the best wedding I have been to! There are other ‘posher' or ‘more pricey' venues close by but I truly mean it when I say that I would still chose the Croft each and every time. From the moment we arrived we were treat like we were royalty. Nothing was too much for the staff. We received a complimentary upgrade to a suite, which was much appreciated. We dined at the Hotel in the evening and the service and food were second to none. Breakfast was a delight, relaxed friendly and again the food was excellent. Will definitely be returning. Relaxing stay, the location was good. Staff very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and well presented staff. Bathroom a tad small in the room we were in but would book a superior room next time but that didn't deter from enjoying our stay and would thoroughly recommend.

I would like to thank the chef for the best gluten free food I have had in a long time. I attended a wedding Sat 31st July. The staff were amazing. They couldn't have done anymore for me. I had the same food as everyone else, just gluten free. Thank you for a brilliant day x

Nice staff on checking in and breakfast. Room was big and had everything I needed, Big modern TV, fridge, chair, table etc Bathroom decent and modern Could do with some paint in the rooms and corridors as it's a bit shabby which is a shame as it's a nice furnished hotel Bar area is really nice and breakfast was ok.. not amazing

We initially booked into another hotel, for the evening, but were horrified & refused to stay. Thankfully The croft Hotel had availability at short notice and we were so pleased. The hotel was beautiful, set in a quiet town. We were offered a suite which was greatly appreciated after our traumatic experience at the other hotel. Our nights stay was perfect. We had a fabulous stay. Rooms were clean and well equipped. Breakfast was well worth it and delicious. We had a great meal in the restaurant. The Manager and staff were so helpful and attentive. Highly recommend and we will definitely stay again when we are next in the area.

We had an overnighter here to break up the travel down south. Wish I had just continued driving. The room was decent, if a little tired. The heat was unbearable in the room with not a breath of air even with the window fully open. So it was an uncomfortable night in that respect. The TV in the room didn't even have basic BBC channels which is unforgiveable at any time nevermind during an important football tournament. As there is nothing nearby we opted to have dinner and breakfast in the hotel. I had read the restaurant either was or still is a gastro-pub. The food was really bland. The chicken sizzler was just strips of chicken cooked with onion and pepper. There was no seasoning or sauce. The curry was similar to what you get in a meal deal from a supermarket. Fearful of what breakfast would bring we went straight to reception to cancel breakfast rather than getting fleeced for another £12.95 each. We took the opportunity to mention the absence of tv channels. It seemed as if it wasn't a new issue going by the lack of eye contact, we left it at that. Thankfully the WiFi worked and we retreated to our room to watch the football on a mobile phone.

We has a 3 night visit to explore the areas around Darlington. Staying here was a great location, in easy reach to some great places. The hotel itself was nice and quiet and pleasant. Great team spirit making the atmosphere very relaxed. The food in the restaurant was superb we had breakfast and dinner. The rooms are adequate and have everything available in them, coffee, tea and a small collection of toiletries.

We stayed a night at this really well situated hotel in a lovely village just off the A1M Room was great, restaurant food excellent and were made to feel really welcome Recommend this hotel for short or long stay.

On a hot summer night would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses, (credit to Meatloaf). Anyway, on a hot summer night would you stop in a hotel where the window is permanently sealed and with just a rather small fan to push the hot air around? The window was dripping with condensation the following morning even though the mini fan was on all night. That alone would stop me (us) ever going back there. Apart from that (!), the location is good for an evening stroll although the two villages are very small so don't go looking for too many pubs, restaurants or convenience stores. Nevertheless, there is a nice open park alongside the river just across the bridge from the hotel. This was another Travelzoo offer for us so definitely good value for money and I have posted copies of the menus for others who also can't find them on the hotel website. Covid precautions were quite good but although I like the idea I'm not too sure about the effectiveness of the stick-on door seals outside each room. The food in both the evening and for breakfast was very, very good, as others have already commented, and the evening meals were huge: we had a chicken sizzler and the prawn and smoked salmon salad. The bar and restaurant staff in the evening were very attentive. Unfortunately, the organisation wasn't so good for breakfast and it reminded me rather of the Chuckle Brothers. First your drinks order, both hot and juices is taken, and then delivered, and only then is your food order taken, only for the wrong dishes to be delivered first time round. I understand the lack of condiments on tables as a Covid precaution but at least in the evening we were offered sauces etc. For breakfast we had to ask for butter for the toast as well as salt and pepper. Overall The Croft Hotel has a very friendly team who were extremely helpful with arranging socially distanced drinks from the bar, which we enjoyed sat out on the patio at the back of the building away from the main road. There are also tables at the front of the hotel which ignoring the A167 road have a nicer outlook.

We had a British breakaway at The Croft for two days in July. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, the food was good. The staff couldn't be more friendly or helpful, (special mention to the wonderful Callum.) We used the hotel as a base to visit The Darlington Head of Steam museum, the Preston Hall museum, Barnard Castle, The Bowes museum and High Force waterfall. Our trip would have been 5 star, had it not been for the awful traffic noise from the A167. Those unused to sleeping near to a busy road should beware.

Exceptional staff..highly recommend the food was very good. Very clean hotel. Nothing was any trouble..what you asked for went out of their way to accommodate you. It was situated in a beautiful village

We had a two night stay in this Listed Building travelling as a couple in room 25 on the 24th / 25th june 2021. Other reviews mention the peak hours traffic noise due to single glazed windows on the rooms that face the busy Darlington to Northallerton main road but we didn't find that to be a great problem and out of those peak times the traffic is quite light. From first entering the hotel we generally found the management and staff to be very helpful and enthusistic and like many of the other reviews posted here this was a major plus element of our visit. Yes the Dinner menu choice was a bit limited in cholice... especially for anyone with Gluten Intollerance... but the quality of the food we ordered was very nicely presented plentiful and very tasty. Whilst being mindful of the post lockdown difficulties within the hospitality sector there are a few 'feedback constuctive critisisms' that are intended to be helpful.... Bedroom 25 was well appointed with plenty of space and a bright new shower room but the lace curtains were looking quite grubby due to some areas of mildew. The guttering joint over the bedroom window was either leaking or overflowing and when the rainfall was heavy in the night the noise was quite disturbing On one occasion, breakfast crockery had to be returned to the kitchen as it wasn't cleaned properly from previous use. A lick of paint here and there would brighten the place up a bit but overall... whilst I wouldnt give it a 4 Star rating it's a good little bolthole for short visits to the area.

We have stayed at the Best Western Plus Croft Hotel twice now and can thoroughly recommend it ! It is very clean, all rooms cleaned and sealed between visits. the staff were very helpful. the food is good but they could or maybe should vary their menu a little. Also whilst I appreciate that they are part of a chain, running out of tonic water is really not a good thing ! we were told that it was because it had been a warm day! However I feel that someone could have purchased more just to get through until their next delivery! Overall our visits have been very good and we will return.

We had a double room at the back of the hotel which was probably quieter than at the front. The bar service was very good, and all the staff were considerate and polite. Evening meals were well presented (lasagne & gammon), and the drinks were good. Breakfast was enjoyed - full English with fried bread included, and the toast & coffee were fine.

We had a fabulous weekend at the Croft Hotel. Accomodation, food, staff were all great. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The opportunity to upgrade to the very unique bridal suite was much appreciated as was the glass of fizz to help us celebrate. Great value, we will definately return.

Standard double room was at the front of the hotel on a noisy road with no secondary glazing. Traffic began at 5am with many HGV's passing by. The housekeeping was below standard with some toiletries missing. Poor quality pillows provided. The breakfast was nicely cooked & always hot, but disappointing there was no fruit on offer, lack of healthy options. On the plus side the bed was very comfortable, the shower had good water pressure & temperature and the staff are very nice. I would stay again if there was an offer on, but would ask for a room at the back of the hotel.

My wife and I with our dog Magic had a three night stay and enjoyed it very much. The staff were helpful and extremely friendly. Our suite was clean, had a TV at the end of the bed and a great shower in the en suite

I was lucky enough to win 1 night stay with breakfast for2. I took my daughter as she did a lot for me when in lockdown. Our room was clean, we were on the ground floor and I found it noisey, not use to traffic noise. We booked a table for our evening meal, which was delicious, breakfast was spot on. All in all a lovely stay, staff were brilliant and we both felt safe, masks worn around hotel and plenty of hand sanitizer. Would recommend the hotel for anybody who wanted to visit surrounding places, thank you to all the staff for a very enjoyable stay .

A fabulous 3 nights in this hotel next to the River Tees. If the weather had been better, I would have enjoyed an evening walk in the surrounding countryside. Room spacious, clean and well decorated. A good night's sleep, followed by an excellent breakfast - it was obvious, only top quality ingredients were used at this establishment. Hope to return soon for another relaxing break.

Our Wedding During COVID-19 My husband and I were married in September 2020. Having had our original wedding plans cancelled for our wedding in St Lucia. We had booked an wedding evening reception at the Croft Hotel fir the 9 October 2020 this had to be postponed until next year. So we approached David the hotel manager and asked if he could sort a small wedding day reception for 5 people this included my husband and I. The hotel could not do enough for us, David had a very positive can do solution focused attitude. Not was a problem. I was anxious that our day be the best possible day in the circumstances - after our wedding in Darlington we went to South Park with our photographer it was a glorious sunny day we had all our beautiful pictures done and then we to the hotel. We arrived to the red carpet ready for us, the lobby was so fresh and welcoming we sat had drinks before our meal. When we went to our area of the restaurant it was beautiful all laid out with white chair covers, navy sashes and sunflower centre pieces. It was all perfect and done like you would for a large wedding. We were so pleased and felt proud fir our day to be set for our guests to eat, drink and relax. The food was absolutely outstanding every course was delivered to such a high standard and the presentation was immaculate. We stayed in the hotel that night, again the room was amazing immaculate warm and had everything we needed and more. The breakfast was fabulous and the staff we attentive. friendly and again nothing was a problem. We could not recommend The Croft highly enough to anyone planning a wedding, special day or just a Sunday lunch. It was a beautiful day and the hotel made it so special with everything they did. Staff were exceptional from the minute I arrived. Superior Double room was large, clean and modern. Bathroom large also with fantastic shower. Mattress however was too soft for me so had a disturbed nights sleep. Evening menu was a reduced offering due to COVID however had more than enough choice for vegetarian diet. Started with tempura vegetables and then vegetable sizzla. Both were very tasty and enjoyed. Vegetarian breakfast was of same standard. Would recommend and stay again. Didn't give 5* due to soft mattress but that is a personal preference.

Had a very comfortable 1 night stay at The Croft . The room was very spacious / comfortable and very nicely decorated with all you could wish for , crisp linen and super comfy bed . Bathroom and shower was superb as was the food served from the kitchen which came very promptly . All covid measures were covered and the staff were very helpful. A visit into nearby Yarm is a must , beautiful little place with plenty nice restaurants and shops also .

We visited this hotel for the first time a couple of weeks ago on the 10th of October. We went for the package deal which was great as in this deal, we had a suite room, breakfast, evening meal and also a bottle of house wine which was altogether £139 and well worth it. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The evening meal and the breakfast the following morning were both excellent as was the service and we would definitely return.

We stayed for one night on a deal which included 3 course dinner, breakfast and bottle of prosecco. It was amazing value. We got upgraded room with the biggest bath ever as mentioned we worked for NHS on booking. Staff were friendly and helpful, food was good quality and we had a relaxing break. Would definitely recommend.

We were lucky enough to enjoy a two-night break recently at The Croft. Our room was superb - with a really large shower room. We loved the quirky decor and artwork throughout the hotel and the food was excellent and plentiful. The real bonus was the lovely staff - nothing was too much trouble for this hard-working team! Would heartily recommend a stay at this friendly hotel.

Stayed here for one night as part of a family celebration. It was 3 course evening meal, room and breakfast deal which was great value for money. The food in the restaurant was very good and a good choice. Breakfast was very good quality and plentiful. The 2 staff who served us on the Saturday and the girl on Sunday where first class. The bar prices where also very reasonable. All in all it was a great stay and would recommend to anyone who was after a quiet night away

I booked 3 rooms as part of a family celebration. We found the hotel to be warm and welcoming, the log burner creates a lovely bar and reception area. We had afternoon drinks, then went on to have a 3 course meal which was beautiful and well presented. Hotel decor is very nice and the ladies rest room is outstanding. We had room 22 which OK but a slight let down. We found the heavy mildew on the curtains not really acceptable and so easily rectified. I reported it to reception on departure and hope its acted upon as it really let the room down. During our stay the 2 male colleagues who were on duty on Oct 10th were outstanding and a credit to the hotel, they both went out of there way to make us feel welcome and it was very much appreciated. Breakfast was gorgeous and again served up by a great member of the team. hotel and worth a stay.

Absolutely unfriendly refused to put fire on even though it was cold 8nsidw and I had to keep my coat on . With no apologies whatsoever. Said that they couldn't turn " on heating ! ) because it is controlled by the external Temperature ! Also very poor WiFi connection had to go outside to use it . Disgusting DO NOT COME HERE . In fact if you recall, other guests were sat outside on the patio, without coats, enjoying the late Summer sunshine we were lucky to have that day. Spent two nights at The Croft and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lovely clean room with massive bathroom and all the facilities we needed. The food on offer was hearty, well cooked and great value for money. (They don't skimp on portion sizes here!) Special mention must go to the staff. The friendliest bunch you could wish to meet. The room was clean, very comfortable and extremely spacious, which is what you need when travelling as a family of four! Staff were all really friendly and welcoming to us all - a nice atmosphere despite Covid protocols being in place. Would definitely recommend!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our premier family room was large, spotless and very modern. The bathroom was beautiful with a huge walk in shower! There is a 2 mile walk just outside the door, going through the church and along the river bank. The food was very nice and the staff were superb - extremely helpful and welcoming, especially the young waitress who served on 12th September (special word for her she was friendly, professional just lovely!). For the great price we paid, it was fantastic! Any negative reviews have got to bear in mind that you aren't paying top top rates. Yes, the outside of the hotel could do with a lick of paint, likewise the corridors but who cares. The things that matter were brilliant!

Very pleasant stay with nice clean room, good food experienced on both evening meal and breakfast fronts. Staff very helpful and attentive throughout and ideal location for exploring everything the local area has to offer. Would we stay here again.................of course we would!

On 1st impressions the room looked nice. Room 10 Big room and new bathroom. Tea and coffee facilities, fridge, hairdryer, ironing board and iron, space to put suitcase, wardrobe and table and chairs. And the TV. As its a listed building the windows are single so quite a bit of noise from the main road, not great for having little ones in your room. I would have expected everything to be clean considering everything was closed down for Covid-19. However while sat at the table my child lifted the net curtain and tried looking out of the window, this is when I noticed how dirty the wood is. The same in the bathroom when you sit on the toliet. Please clean the wooden parts at least every week. Breakfast OK However not many staff, I didn't really know what to do on check out. I saw 1 person on check in and 1 person for breakfast.

We booked the suite for our 1st Anniversary and we are so glad we did. The suite is amazing, and the jacuzzi bath is a fantastic addition to the room, the hotel is outstanding, staff and food are brilliant. Can't wait to go back and stay.

We stayed here on our way back home from Scotland and the hotel was lovely. The staff were friendly and attentive the food was tasty and freshly cooked and the portion sizes were huge. The bedroom was a great size we had a family room with a massive bathroom and it was immaculately clean. We couldn't really have asked for anymore and it represented fantastic value for money. Would highly recommend

So i had checked in online and thought all i had to do was arrive and then would be handed my key to our room. I told the man on reception that i had already checked in online but he didn't believe me and made me scan the barcode which didn't work as no wifi signal so eventually i logged in only to show that i had already booked in. Told the man about this, no apology just shrugged his shoulders and said he has to check especially because of covid. Surely the hotels system would show if someone had booked online? Got to my room, there were drinking glasses but no water and no telephone to call reception so i had to go downstairs and request some water. The guy shrugged his shoulders and told me it was because of covid they are not allowed to serve water in the room. At breakfast there was no cereal for my kids because of covid so i asked if i could use my own? He said no because of covid! Staff were not wearing face coverings. Other than the above it is a lovely hotel, good location,plenty of parking. Okay gym. Breakfast was good they even serve veggie full english. The walk by the chhurch is very nice. Staff were nice, we had a nice room with beds for all 4 of us. Would recommend

Stayed for 1 night in a double room. The hotel is very easy to find with plenty of off road parking. Throughout the hotel and the rooms, it is very clean and well decorated and up to date. The staff are very friendly and helpful with any requests. The rooms and well equipped with a hairdryer, iron and ironing board and is well set out. Beds are very comfy! We didn't have evening meal but breakfast was delicious. Both had full English with toast, was piping hot when served and very filling. Would definitely stay again and recommend to family/friends.

Booked this hotel week before covid 19 kicked in. 1 night stop over. Evening meals were cancelled on day we travelled. Hotel was quiet made worse as restaurant was in lock down. Staff was friendly, room was spacious and clean. Was offered take away breakfast but we were leaving early so declined. Looked to be in a nice area will try and return when everything is back to norm.

My grandma, sister and I came here for afternoon tea the other day. The voucher was for two but when booking, they were happy to accommodate to our needs, making the table for three (paying extra for the third person) and assisting to their dietary needs (GF). When we arrived, the young lady on the front was lovely and we were seen to our table quickly as well as being offered tea/coffee immediately. The afternoon tea came out quickly looking very appealing/presentable. All food was of good quality, one of the mini desserts was a bit mushy but overall was very nice!

We had a two night stay and were very happy with all aspects- staff were friendly and helpful, room was very good (great bed and great bathroom especially) and the hotel was very clean throughout. We had dinner there on both nights and the food was very good and the breakfasts even better! Decent location for access to Darlington, Yarm and Durham etc There is a pub (The Comet) across the bridge which is in a different County believe it or not! Good range of drinks and friendly place if you want something different. We would recommend The Croft Hotel if you're looking to stay in the area.

have stayed at this hotel once before ,have found the rooms to be very good ,staff friendly ,food is also good .as is the decor .and a good breakfast is provided. interesting church across the street good piece of history .as a racing fan not far from either catterick or sedgefield overall a good place to stay

Lovely hotel, immaculate, very friendly staff. It is a little gem of a hotel with plenty of parking and good accessible access. We have chosen it for our wedding and they could not be more helpful in the run up. we have had Sunday lunch there and dropped in for coffee with family. it has always been very good.

Hotel room was fantastic with large room, tv at end of bed, plenty of room, walk in rain shower. All very clean and bed was so comfortable, best night sleep I have had for ages, deal included meal and bottle of wine, service from Ben was superb. Breakfast in the morning was lovely. Felt like a real special weekend thanks to all the staff especially Ben

Very welcoming and accommodating with our dogs after a lovely walk around the village and river. A shame the quality of food didn't live up to the hospitality shown by all the staff. With a bit more care and attention it could be lovely.

Afternoon tea. Terrible. Sandwich's were starting to curl up. Couldn't even figure out What was in one sandwich as that thin. Tiniest 2cm square brownie and some other biscuit, grainy lemon posset Only good thing was pot of tea and macaroons ( which were prob bought in ) Plus lady on reception was really nice but I think she was even embarrassed by what was offered. Good job didn't pay full price. Won't be back sorry

Well we paid £45 for four people which is a good price but sandwiches where really bad that I eat them asked should English afternoon sandwiches taste rotten to be fair the lady said there where made this morning which morning not to sure so we declined another helping. Then £25 pound for a bottle of fizz so let's say my first experience of afternoon tea it may be my last. Not a soul in the place that makes me think but the staff where very helpful shame the food wasn't .

We wanted a hotel close to a venue in the village and this was ideal. Very pretty building, lovely large room and a huge shower room but the windows were in a shocking state and filthy! I know old buildings can't all have modern UPVC windows but they can still have the mould and mildew cleaned off them. Plus there were no window coverings at the bathroom so the shower was in direct view of the main road! I would certain consider staying here again but not at New Year - the cost was just too exorbitant for 1 night at nearly £300!!!

We arrived for 2.00pm sitting felt very rushed staff were very pleasant but we had a soup starter and no bread was brought with it meal was very average and the beef was awful no armosphere and did not feel encouraged to hang around after over all a very poor experience at £75 per head would not recommend this to anyone

Having availed of an afternoon tea voucher via a Groupon deal I went along with great expectations. First impressions a nice setting. Friendly waiter greeted us and we were seated in an area close to the front. The decor was tired and to be fair wasn't the most appealing. The food was edible although not as described. A few staff members milled about and were quite loud and brash with some customers, albeit in a friendly manner. I wouldn't have paid full price as it was expensive for what it was, even at a discounted rate. To sum up this experience, it was like licking a 9 volt battery. I'm glad I did it as I was inquisitive, but I wouldn't be dying in a ditch to do so again.

I was given a voucher for 2 people as an early Christmas present so I decided to treat my mam as well, from walking in we were greeted by friendly staff, Dyanne was lovely we were served our hot drinks then our food came included salmon, cheese savoury, turkey and cranberry sandwiches, mini quiches, chocolate cake, amaretto mini biscuits, lemon torte, macrons, warm fruit scones with jam and clotted cream and hot roasted chestnuts. Staff could not do enough for us, they seemed to love there job! Well worth the money! Would definitely recommend, I will 100% be returning soon.

We went to the Croft Hotel for their Festive Afternoon tea and we were not disappointed. There were savoury tarts to begin with, which were very tasty. This was followed by finger sandwiches which comprised of Turkey with Cranberry, Smoked Salmon & Cheese and Egg & Cheese, all very nice. A lemon & cream sorbet in a jar and then on to the Scones with butter, strawberry jam, together with a mountain of clotted cream, very delicious. The next items were the cakes, we had roulade, ginger star biscuits, and millionaires shortbread cakes. A terrific assortment all washed down with an endless supply of pots of tea. The room was very pleasant, with Xmas crackers on the tables, a roaring log fire and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Would really recommend the venue.

had the unpleasure of eating here today. everything was very poor. garlic mushrooms were terrible as was the soup, tasted like dirty dush water. roast dinner meats were very tough. roasted veg tasted old and cabbage was flooded with Luke warm cream/milk. wife's vegan meal was also inedible. very disappointed and will not be returning. Decor and general appearance is tatty and unfinished.

We stayed on a offer of £99 for Dinner, Bed & Breakfast with a complementary bottle of wine. I booked this direct with the hotel and also received an upgrade to a Superior room (No 3). The staff were very welcoming and attentive, and the room was top drawer. Looking around the hotel as a whole, I think it might have had a recent facelift as the carpets seemed new, the decor was fresh and clean and it didn't look 'old/tired' anywhere. The bar and reception were all dressed up for Xmas and with the modern log fire burning it did feel warm and cozy. The 3 course meal was fantastic...proper home cooked food, breakfast was the same, being served to your table and NOT the buffet style. For the offer we were on it was hard to beat. Definitely going back

Having stayed for the past three weeks working in the Hurworth area i found The Croft Hotel amazing, it is always hard to find the right place when you are working away from home, i found all the staff hard working and very pleasant especially Ben he couldn't do enough for you, 10 out of 10 for the service, The food was very nice i had gone through the whole menu during my stay of 12 nights the homemade pies were very nice, the burgers also and were made fresh, but my favourite was the pork and leek sausages with onion gravy they were to die for !! I didn't have one bad meal during my stay and found the breakfast exceptional also, i just want to say a big thank to all the staff at The Croft Hotel for making my stay Home From Home, i will certainly return if i am working in the area again, well recommended Thanks Again, a very satisfied guest Tom Rafferty.

We stayed for one night's evening meal, bed and breakfast. Ample car parking in front and behind the hotel and there is no charge for it, in fact the car park in front comes up right under the windows to the ground floor rooms, including the bridal suite. The service at booking in was slow as there was no one on the desk and even though staff saw that we were waiting no one came to attend to us until we had to get a member of staff and she was quick to inform us that reception was not her usual job! Once we were booked in we were shown our room. We were staying at this hotel for the night as my partner won a competition with the prize being a night in the Bridal Suite with dinner, bed and breakfast with Prosecco thrown in (not literally, I hasten to add!). The Bridal Suite at The Croft is at the end of a corridor on the ground floor of the building and comprises of two ground floor rooms and a room upstairs that can be partitioned into two rooms or kept as one room. The upstairs room has a door to the hallway on the first floor so, if you do stay in the Bridal Suite remember to lock the upstairs door as well as the ground floor door. The reason why the Bridal Suite is so extensive is because the lower rooms are the bedroom and a large bathroom with a large whirlpool bath, a shower, wash basin and toilet. It was has a metal circular stairway, in one corner of the room, leading up to the upper story. The upper room has a small lounge area at the front and the top of the circular stairs. There is also an area at the back for the bride to get ready and that includes a sink, the kind usually found in beauty parlours for washing hair, two hairdressers chairs and an area for a small nail bar. There is also another toilet and handwash basin in an adjoining room. Everything, I would imagine, a bride would require to get ready for her big day. All the furniture and equipment seemed of very good quality and the room seemed ideal but ....... The idea of a bride coming down the narrow, circular metal stairs in her dress is interesting as she would struggle if it had a long trail or was of the 'meringue' variety, as there would be a very good chance that it would get caught, and, with the treads on the steps having a design in them that meant there were gaps then she could catch her heel and may fall! One final point about the stairs. I have included a photo showing that there is a good possibility of someone hitting their head on the edge of the circular treads. I acknowledge that some of the bottom of the uprights to the handrail have rubber on them but it is still a dangerous hazard. There is little room when moving between the staircase and the end of the bed and TV unit in order to try to avoid a head injury. So, there is a possibility of the bride arriving at the wedding ceremony with a bandaged head from hitting it against the stairs, a badly torn dress from catching it on the tight stairs, one heel missing from her shoes having caught it in the tread and she may have to use a crutch due to a leg injury having fallen down the stairs following catching her heel. The other serious flaw in the Bridal Suite centred on the bathroom. As I have said it had a lovely large whirlpool bath that must have cost a few bob. However, as I have said before the Bridal Suite is on the ground floor and the car park and public access comes right up to the other side of the large single glazed window just three foot from the side of the bath. Don't worry you say, surely the window has frosted glass? Sorry, no, and to compound the issue the window is so large it needs two blinds to cover the area but these two blinds don't quite touch each other in the middle and so there is a lovely little gap all the way down the window. Anyone wish to use a bath or the shower and be on full public show? In an effort to 'seal' this gap, a few short strips of 'gaffer' tape had been used but they were showing signs of age and their adhesiveness was starting to wane. I have included a few photos of this issue as well. We brought these issues to the attention of the manager and he immediately found us another room next door, a little down the corridor, that he says is also used by wedding parties. That's handy, we thought, the married couple can have the in-laws in the next room on their wedding night! The room we were moved to was nicely appointed but also had the issue of a large single glazed window on the ground floor with the public having access right up to it. When we pointed out the issue with the window blinds in the bathroom of the Bridal Suite he said he and his girlfriend had used the bath a few days prior and they had no issues with it. Both rooms that we saw on the ground floor were nicely appointed and decorated but why not change the single glazed window into a double glazed version in order to save on the heating and to cut down on the the noise traffic outside? Also, if it was possible the size of the windows need to be reduced as they are very large, however, I do understand that the planners might not grant the necessary permission if the building is listed. The issue of the blind needs serious attention and the management should try to install some type of barrier to prevent the public being able to encroach right up to the outside of the window - residents needs to feel some privacy. As for the issue with the circular stairs well that is a bigger issue that needs sorting as it is just a poor design in my opinion. The rest of the stay was enjoyable. The evening meal we had was very good, freshly cooked, hot and delicious as was the following day's breakfast. I would like to give credit to the chap that was serving at the bar and served us the evening meal as he did a good job and seemed one of the few staff available at the time. Unfortunately, I did not catch his name but he had a particular badge on his lapel. The setting of the hotel is very nice as it is very close to the Tees and the area is charming and well worth lingering a while. All in all the hotel is very nice as long as you don't stay in the Bridal Suite!

We stayed for a night and were very impressed with the room, food and service. Dinner was superb, freshly cooked and served with genuine kindness in front of a gorgeous wood burner! Breakfast was also superb and more then enough to keep me going right till lunchtime. The staff were so nice and genuinely kind. I'd definitely stay here again

Myself and my partner recently had a stay over at the Croft Hotel . I was given this overnight stay with evening meal included as a Christmas present . I can only say our stay was absolutely Fabulous . This Hotel is quaint and had only very limited about I'd rooms available . Our Room was absolutely beautifully with two venue big impressive arch windows which really The bar area had a very relaxed feel with the bar staff falling over themselves To be helpful and Friendly. I was really impressed with Ben. He went above and beyond, his customer service was First Class.snd he made you feel so jnldamlwk The bar area is very trendy and moderne .

Hotel is set next to the river in a quiet village although the road outside is busy. Rooms are comfy and set mainly on first floor. If you have mobility problems there is no lift and ask for a room near the stairs, we had quite a trek to our room along the corridors. Staff are friendly, food is good but not much on the menu if you are watching your weight. I would stay here again. The only criticism is the windows in our room need cleaning on the inside and the breakfast room needs dusting on the central wall and the top of the drop down lights. Perhaps I'm being a bit picky!

I purchased a groupon to treat my friend and I to afternoon tea. Very impressed with the decor and welcoming bar area. Felt a bit under pressure while connecting to wifi to present voucher - staff member rather abrupt! Shown to table in restaurant where carvery was still out - which felt a bit weird. Would have felt more cosy and relaxed in bar area but not offered a choice. We were served our prosecco without a cloth so dribbles all over table each time i took it out of ice bucket! I had to go and find staff to ask for butter and then for coffee. Only at the end of the two and half hours we were there did a staff member come and ask if we needed anything/was everything ok, and I think this was because i was overheard commenting on the bad service. The food itself was unimpressive - sandwiches were not very nice and some of the cakes were clearly supermarket bought. The scones were tasty though! Had to find a staff member at the end to ask to box up left over cakes to take home. I know this was only a groupon, but every customer should matter as this outing was a check out to see if we want to book for Christmas - we will be going elsewhere!

Myself and my husband got married here on Friday 13th. The staff were incredible. I stayed the night before and it was just so relaxed. The bridal suite is awesome - perfect for getting ready on your big day. David (events) was amazing, as well as Ashley, Nathan and Dyonne. The food was brilliant, and the service impeccable. We had the best day of our lives spent here. And looking at other hotels in the similar area bar far it was the most reasonable priced event. Sent an email last week about afternoon tea with my friends. Quick response, explained there would be 4 adults two babies which would need high chairs. When we arrived the high chairs were placed at the table ready and waiting for us. Staff are brilliant! Kept coming to make sure we had enough tea/coffee see if we needed anything else, can't fault the staff. My only problem was, in my email I said there will be a vegetarian- which is me. So I asked if the vegetarian sandwiches could be on a separate plate or just separated from the meat ones. When I received my sandwiches there was a tuna sandwich on my plate. I'm not a pescatarian so I don't eat meat or fish. I took the sandwich off my plate and didn't kick up a fuss but I was upset about this therefore unable to eat the sandwich touching the tuna sandwich. I understand people may think it's petty but I take my vegetarianism very seriously and I was annoyed that I wasn't asked if I ate fish or not and they just assumed. Other than that it was lovely, warm cheese scones were to die for and everything else for that matter! Thank you for having us

Me and my wife had our wedding reception here last year so we thought it would be nice to return for our anniversary. At £9.95 for Sunday carvery it was a great price for the quality of food. Weren't shy with the meat, the selection of veg was great and you can get what you want. Roasties were amazing with a rosemary sprinkle on them, loads of big ones for me! Mushy peas were a pleasant surprise, and the rest was cooked perfectly. Will definitely be returning as it's one of the best I've had, and I'm very fussy with Sunday lunch ! Very friendly and attentive staff.

It's not often I get such a pleasant surprise when I pull up outside a hotel and I can see immediately that it's an old building, then walk inside and get a real wow impression. It's easy to put a lick of paint on the outside, and the same inside, but it takes attention to detail, skill, craftsmanship and real, professional staff to get it right. The Croft have most definitely got it right. Everyone who I met that was associated with The Croft was immeasurably proud of this wonderful hotel and rightly so. I stayed in room No 3 and only had the one night as I was on business, but the next time I'm in the North East I'll certainly be back.

Visited the Croft with my lovely wife. We booked the Dinner Bed and Breakfast deal. We were greeted warmly by the night manager and barman who promptly got us checked in and arranged a reservation for dinner. The room was clean and well presented. Had a fridge, ironing facilities and a wall mounted tv and very comfortable double bed. Spacious ensuite bathroom, with modern decor. Was a little warm in the room but this can be forgiven given it was 29° outside and staff were very obliging in furnishing the room with a fan. We went for dinner at about 6.30, we were greeted again by Ben (I think that was his name - the guy mentioned in previous reviews with Tattoos). He was extremely polite got us seated quickly and our drinks and meal order taken. Starters came and were brill we both had Crispy Belly Pork. Mains again did not disappoint. Rib eye steak and chunky twice cooked chips... Yum. During mains there was of course the usual saturday night "entertainment". There was an elderly couple, in the restaurant who had found fault with their meal. These things happen the guys at the hotel did there utmost despite the protests from the couple themselves. At least one of the couple had ordered steak and twice cooked chips and the complaint I believe was to do with them being overcooked?! The hotel staff could not do enough for the couple and the more they tried to help the louder this couple complained to the point other diners actually stopped eating their meal and spoke to the couple to try and defend the hotel staff. They were rude and personal to and about the staff. The staff were very unfairly treated. The whole time the staff stayed cool and calm and polite and still managed to keep other diners food and drinks coming in a timely manner. This I think shows just how good the service at The Croft is. Well done guys. That aside great desert. Great service despite being under pressure. Breakfast was great. Excellent variety of Teas, Coffee's and fruit juices. Cooked breakfast to cater for all tastes. Was a great variety of pastries. Checkout would have been quicker has we not arrived after the couple from the previous night (and if I had remembered that there is no room 27). They of course raised their complaint as any disgruntled guest had the right to do and declined a goodwill gesture of money off their stay. Bearing in mind they were only being charged Dinner Bed and breakfast rate the same as our selves the hotel surely can't be making much anyway off that particular rate. And Nathan... we liked your "floral shirt". The rest of the stay was uneventful and we had a great time. Thank you for a great stay.

The Croft Hotel is an lovely hotel to stay in. We stayed for dinner, bed and breakfast. The options for both dinner and breakfast were good. The dinner menu was a select menu but very easy to choose a meal.A large selection of breakfast food were available. All fresh food. The two staff serving were very friendly, easy to chat too. They were busy however we did not have to wait a long period of time for our dinner.

Arrived Sunday afternoon. First impression of lounge area. Poor. There was a playing card stuck on the ceiling. Room had been renovated, small but quite nice. Only 1 small shower gel provided. Spoke to pleasant girl on reception who kindly gave us soap and 2 small shower gels. Comfy bed, large Tv on wall, very nice fluffy towels. No glasses provided and only 1 biscuit provided We are a retired couple and are well travelled. Myself being an ex bank manager having stayed in many hotels around the country The deal we had for our booking seemed very good value £99 dinner b and b with a bottle of wine. Restaurant dinner was served between 6.00pm and 7.45 pm. Usually I would expect service until 9.30pm. We booked for 7 pm. No table runners or cloths on tables. Paper napkins no floral decoration on table.. bit like a cafe. Limited menu. We each had an allowance of £25 to spend on our food. I had deep fried belly pork to start with and hubby had potato skins. Main course.. I was having fish peas and chips priced at £10.95 ,upgrading to chunky chips at an additional cost of £1. Hubby was having steak priced at £16 upgrading to chunky chips £1 and extras salad onion rings.at a cost of £3.95 Both meals had stewed burnt chips. Waiter who was casually dressed with tattoos up his arms took the food away. Hubby went to bar to purchase bottle of wine as I did not like the free wine provided. The waiter brought our food back and it looked like the original chips had been refried. My peas were all crispy on top as if they had been under a heat lamp. I promptly went to see the manager hubby came from bar to see what the problem was. The manager asked what he could do for us we requested new meals. Outcome no chunky chips left and no steak. No chips and it was only 7.30pm and no steaks.!!! I returned to my seat hubby was cross, next thing we knew lady got up and started shouting abuse at my husband we had saw her earlier having a lot yo drink in the afternoon. Hubby told her to shut up and sit down in no uncertain words. He returned to the table. The waiter with the tattoos came to our table picked the plates up and asked us to leave. We promptly left..it should have been the other rude lady who should have been asked to leave. dnt know if they saw that part of the situation. We were in bed by 9.00pm feeling hungry , being old we did not want any further confrontation. Hard to sleep as noise from some sort of generator going until midnight and starting up at 6.00 am. On checking out guy on reception in blue floeal shirt ! Asked for manager and he was the manager. He deducted £20 from our bill. For our not having meal. Should have been £50 at least. No apologies !!! However I am I touch with My bank and am charging back the whole amount..Very bad customer service it was like something from Faulty Towers. I am adding photos of food we received and you can see how stewed chips were. Unfortunately I have no photos of the second lot of food which was worse as it was removed. Breakfast was poor..in the last few weeks we have stayed at Derwent Manor, The Amble inn and Redworth Hall. The food at the other hotels was very good and the staff were all very accommodating. I am also in touch with Best Western and Abacus hospitality making a complaint.

We just returned from a two night stay here. What a lovely hotel. Really friendly staff. There's everything you could want from a hotel. The only thing I will have a slight moan about is the window situation in the bathroom, there were no blinds or such like it did have frosted glass but if you showered at night people would see outside.

We've visited the hotel a few times as a family wedding has been held here. The hotel itself is lovely, beautiful location right beside a church and river. The staff are also very welcoming and friendly. Price-wise it is very reasonable too. In fact we stopped in for breakfast one morning and it was only £10pp for all you can eat breakfast and unlimited tea, coffee and fruit juice. The bad things are: Twice now I have informed staff that the light is not working in the "breastfeeding area". Also, cleanliness in the less travelled areas is questionable, the bars and seating areas all seem great but go to the corridor to the disabled toilets/baby change toilets and look up in the corridor. Quite a few spiders and webs hanging about. All in all nice but could do with a few easy improvements.

We stayed here with all our family for 2 nights it's a lovely hotel and staff are great and can't do enough for you we had a eddying here and everything was perfect the only thing that it down is the breakfast it's something u would expect abroad very tasteless dry breakfast other meals was ok but overall lovely clean hotel and beautiful rooms x

I can't recommend this hotel enough. The staff are all lovely and can't do enough to help you. The rooms are spacious, clean and have been refurbished. I had my wedding here and they planned almost everything for me and did a fantastic job. Whenever I have eaten here I have enjoyed the food.

The room we had was spotless and we had no issues with it. However, it seemed very strange that there were only soap and shampoo in the bathroom and no shower gel. Whilst I am very much in favour of reducing the uses of plastic in all areas of life, it did not seem an environmental decision - that would surely be to have toiletries in dispensers rather than individual plastic bottles and we have come across this excellent idea in many hotels. Rather, it seemed more as if a decision had been made not to provide shower gel as a cost cutting measure. I have noted from other reviews that the lack of shower gel seems to have been commented on before but no satisfactory response provided. The real issues we had were with the restaurant. My mother, who lives in Darlington, had heard good things about the hotel and was especially looking forward to it. When ordering drinks we asked for a wine list and were told by the disinterested waitress that there wasn't one. She told us there were three white wines and we selected one and ordered other drinks. Shortly after, she returned to say the wine we had ordered had run out as had bottles of sparkling water and the blood orange gin special, which was being offered on a board in the bar. No apologies, no suggestions for alternatives. Nevertheless, we continued to order food which took a very long time to arrive although the restaurant didn't seem very busy. We could find almost nothing positive to say about the food. The nachos seemed to be a third of a packet of supermarket value chips with a small amount of melted cheese on top served with a spoonful of guacamole and soured cream. How that was £7.50s worth baffles me. The meat layer on the scotch egg was almost nonexistent. The chips were all cold. The chilli was bland and again, the quality of a cheap, value ready meal from a supermarket. The steak was, according to our daughter, the most tasteless she had ever had. Unfortunately, as we were staying overnight, we had the further misfortune to have breakfast. I have never had tasteless orange juice until now. The provision of fruit was apples, bananas and oranges. The cooked breakfast was so unpleasant looking it even put my husband off and he always looks forward to that part of breakfast. There appeared to be no imagination or thought or, indeed, care put into it. I don't expect a proper response as there are only two stock replies to every review indicating a lack of interest by management.

Just had a lovely afternoon tea at The Croft Hotel. The food was very good with plenty of choice. A good variety of finger sandwiches, both cheese and fruit scones fresh from the oven followed by a choice of three cakes and a macaroon.Too much to eat....so we were supplied with a "doggy bag" for the remains. The only negative is that we were the only people in the restaurant which was a shame.

I stayed here a few years ago, since then it had been very well refurbished. All rooms, lounge, dining room and reception area are now very good. My room was excellent with all the facilities you could want for a stopover. Helpful staff and a decent breakfast. Adequate safe parking.

Attended this evening and we were not disappointed. Staff friendly. Food was excellent and extremely tasty. The Murder Mystery was great and lots of fun. Highly recommend. Food was either Pate or Soup, then Chicken, Beef or Vegetarian Lasagne and finally Cheesecake or Sticky Toffee Pudding. I was on a table of 4 and we all said how delicious and tasty the food was. At the end of the evening the staff were waiting to say Good Night as people left. I would highly recommend this evening and hope they put another one on soon. Very Good Value for money. Staff are always lovely and friendly at this hotel and nothing is too much trouble. 10/10 for excellent food, staff and evening xXx

Upon arrival our room was very cold, windows open and no heating on. They did turn heating on when requested but took ages to heat up. The room had lots of dust and cobwebs. We had tea in the restaurant. We were the only customers upon ordering our meal, it took a hour for burger and chips to arrive and then the burger was so thick it wasn't chewable so we ended up leaving our meal. Check out was a nightmare staff very unorganised!!!

I ended up staying the night here due to a travelling mishap. The receptionist was absolutely lovely with helping me out. The room was clean and comfortable and the shower was amazing. The receptionist also printed out two sets of directions for me and I hadn't even asked she's amazing at her job and although I hadn't planned my stay here I will certainly be back and would recommend to anyone

Very disappointing stay. Room was very hot with no fan or AC, loud disco until midnight below us, glasses and coffee cups were not cleaned between nights, dust and cobwebs in the room. Too few staff to cope. Would never stay there again.

Took advantage of a D,B&B package that turned out to be great value. We had a fabulous room, dinner was excellent, chosen from a menu with enough choice but not so much as to confuse. The food was great, service was warm and friendly. I can recommend this hotel and would hope to be able to return in the future.

We booked a two night stay at the hotel over the bank holiday weekend! When we arrived we liked the presentation and standard of the hotel. We checked in after waiting 5 minutes for someone to come to the reception desk when ringing the bell many times! The room was really nice and spacious with newly fitted bathroom suite, we were very impressed with the room. After dropping the bags we made our way to the bar/restaurant to get something to eat and drink. We sat down and looked at the menu which had very little choice, so just went for starters and sides. Food was ok, and waitress service was good. We sat in the bar area for the rest of the night enjoying a few drinks before we went to our room for a reasonable night. We had breakfast in the morning which doesn't need booking it is served between 7 and 10. The one woman running breakfast was lovely and couldn't do enough for you. Breakfast was good and had continental and full English, as well as a choice of juices tea and coffee. We had a walk and a drive to the coast which was great and lovely weather, and got back to the hotel for mid afternoon. We thought we would sit in the hotel and have a few drinks in the bar area. No staff were to be seen so after waiting at the bar we went to reception and asked if we could get a drink. We soon learnt that to get a drink you have to ask at reception and the same member of staff will walk with you to the bar to serve. Although not the staffs fault, the hotel is massively understaffed and it looks as though one or sometimes two staff are running the whole place. We had to tell a member of the public who had come in for a drink that you have to ask at reception, and she looked as bewildered by this as we was. All in all, the hotel seems to be trying to be something it isn't, it's got loads of potential, the rooms are clean the beers good the breakfast is good but needs many more staff a more extensive menu and a bit of welcoming to guests be it hotel guests or public wouldn't go amiss. We won't be returning to the Croft, but Croft on tees is a lovely little place for a walk, but if you want a warm welcome and a good hearty meal, go across the bridge to the comet. Which is absolutely packed for a reason. Remember to pre book!

We booked a night here directly through the hotel as they gave me a fab deal. We wanted to take our Daughter with us and asked whether we could have an additional bed in the room and the lovely lady on the phone said that wouldn't be a problem. When we arrived we were very happy with our room and our Daughter loved her own little bed as well. The food in the hotel is lovely and there is one member of staff in particular that really stood out in the bar/restaurant and that was Dianne. She was so happy and made us feel soo comfortable. On Easter Sunday there was an Easter egg hunt and arts & crafts on for the children. Our Daughter loved this and the staff were so attentive and involved with everything that was going on. Our Daughters favourite was the Easter Bunny but she also loved the Mad Hatter and Alice. We love this hotel and can't wait to return very soon. I've told all my friends and family about this little gem and would recommend it to anyone.

Had our wedding reception here 24 years ago. We were given room 4 initially which was previously the bridal suite. First impressions were good but on closer inspection there had been a leek in the ceiling above the bed and the wall paper/coving was dropping off in bits onto the bed. We changed to room 3 at the front which was better with a big bathroom. Only fault was, the heating kept going off and it did get chilly through the night. Would of loved the bridal suite but it was a shame it was already booked. The reception staff were lovely and the lady doing afternoon teas/breakfasts was ok with us but kept getting rather harassed with others but this really wasn't her fault as she was working on her own to serve us all. She brought a lovely hot chocolate at breakfast for me. We stayed a year ago and I recall this poor lady being on her own then too ran off her feet. The food at night time wasn't good. We had a £25 meal allowance but the food is very pricey. Some starters were £7 to £9 and the choices weren't to our taste l'm afraid and I wasn't paying £4.95 for tomato soup. The sirloin steak was quite nice but the chips and blue cheese mayo/peppercorn sauce weren't good at all. The cherry pie desert and custard was also pricey and tasteless. We felt the menu needs looking at and £16.50 for scampi was way over priced. Cleanliness really let the place down as very dusty in corners and stairs, lights above us having afternoon tea etc. Don't think we will stay again I'm afraid to say.

What a lovely place! Historic but modern touches. Beautiful rooms, comfortable bed & friendly staff. Will definitely stay again. Breakfast was delicious and a lovely log fire in the lounge area which was nice to sit by to reply to emails etc.

Stayed here for one night only - thank God! There was a mix up on check in - they couldn't find our reservation and the room had only been set up for one. I asked at reception if it could made up for two and whilst we were sitting in the bar having a very overpriced drink £10.70 for a gin and tonic and and a can of Guinness - our additional towels, glass, cup, and tea and coffee bits were dumped on the bar for us to take back to our room. The room itself was ok, nothing special- the tv was on a unit at the end of bed and the gap between the bed and the unit had literally inches of dirt down there - not cleaned in months! The bed itself was a 5 foot bed but was so hard - the only difference between the bed and a brick is that a brick does at least have a dent in the middle. I have arthritis and could barely move on the morning. Woke up every hour or so when I tried to turn over. Hubby has no such health problems but even he needed pain killers in the morning! All in all a rubbish stay for us!

Room was good - had recently been refurbished. Was away from the road so nice and quiet. Nice bathroom if a little small. The drain didn't work very well in the shower so it drained very slowly and the tray filled with water. We stayed two nights and the cleaner failed to provide more toiletries for the second night so I had to request them from reception. We ate in the restaurant the first night and the a la carte menu was very good and the food was of a high standard, though the starters could have done to be hotter. Breakfast was not quite so good. There was no fresh fruit salad although this was advertised on the menu. Service as rather slow. On the second day my partner ordered smoked haddock, hollandaise sauce and poached egg and was brought haddock (not smoked) with a tomato. She sent it back and it evntually came back with the sauce abd egg but it took an age! Service generally was a bit slow and it was sometimes difficult to find staff, though they were all very helpful. Plenty of free car parking and the village of Croft is lovely! Overall this hotel was good, especially for the weekend deal we got, but it failed to get the small details right that could make all the difference.

When i asked what time the was best to eat i was told be sharp the place will be full. I came a cross 1 guest so of you like a friendly chat this isnt the place. The internet reception is shocking and after coming back from a busy day at work my room had not been touched at all bed not changed or made and used towls on the floor in the bathroom. I will certainly not be returning any time soon

Wasn't going to bother writing a review. However, received an email from the booking site "Open Table". Changed my mind almost immediately. My wife had booked an over night stay away from the children at The Croft because of the apparent refurbishment over the last few years. It was supposed to be a birthday surprise for me. The room was booked in the first few days in November ready for my birthday on 15th February. We had received an email from the hotel upgrading our room to a suite, think I would have preferred a normal deluxe room because there was absolutely nothing nice about room 4. Checked in early evening and was looking forward to dinner in the restaurant, we noticed that someone was having a KFC delivered to the hotel while I was unpacking the car (that should have been a sign of things not being good) The hotel and restaurant was really really quite considering that it was a Friday night. There were only two tables eating in the restaurant when we went down for dinner. I challenge the General Manager of the Croft to read my review on "Open Table". Then speak to the person that was in charge of the restaurant that night before making a reasonable offer of compensation for messing my birthday up. We don't go away very often, and have got three small children. However, we had organised the sitter to look after the children and sleep over too. In order for me to have a pleasant night at the Croft. Because it does look as if the hotel has spent a lot of money on the general refurbishment over the past couple of years. But when you paint the main stair case of the hotel in white it should be kept more cleaner. This didn't look the case at all, considering how quite the hotel was. It didn't look cleaned probably over the course of the week to be honest. But, the issue that we had was mainly in the restaurant, for both the service received by the person in charge being very defensive and argumentative and with the quality of the food. Very disappointing with our whole experience and look forward to the General Manager making contact with me with his outcome....

Let's start with the positives. The decor is generally pleasing and the room was comfortable. The sash windows haven't been refurbished properly though and the paint is flakey. The room was clean. Sadly other areas were not: the stairs were very dirty (difficult to keep clean when they're painted white?) The food...The menu was limited: 5 starters, 7 mains and 4 desserts (I think). I had a fish cake starter which was pleasant but there could have been more sauce. The sirloin steak was small and came medium well (I'd asked for medium rare). I didn't send it back because I can eat steak any way it comes. Salad garnish...lacking imagination. Family had different starters (ok) and fish main course. Asked for no peas but that fell on deaf ears. Puddings ok but run out of vanilla ice cream. Very very slow service. Breakfast...no muffins. Mushrooms were missing but rectified. Coffee dreadful. The rest was tasty. Again, service slow...one member of staff doing check out and breakfast. For the price - just over £70 for one - it wasn't bad but I won't rush to recommend. And despite assurances that the hotel gives the best price, check out the Best Western website. It would have been cheaper to book B&B and then pay for supper (although I would have had to pre-pay for this option).

we had good meals and the review would be excellent but for the one problem we had which was that the bedroom smoke alarm flashed a light intermittently all night: mentioning it at check-out, assuming it meant the battery needed changing, the reply was that "they all do that"...

Well decided to go along 3/2/2019 for a carvery with the family on arrival we stood in reception for about ten minutes eventually got seen to and got seated once we was seated they give us some menus and said they'd be back to take our drinks orders well after waiting I wouldn't like to say how long we got a drink After waiting a while for drinks etc and watching what was going on with the staff just new it was going to be a disaster Eventually went round to carvery and have to say very dry nothing had been put into the cooking picked some parsnips up they was just like mash potato veg just been well and truly over cooked Gravy nothing special I've had better microwave meals from local shop Don't let yourselfs get ripped of

We stayed here for 2 nights last week for the first time...And it certainly won't be the last ... Everything was just right! We ate in the Restaurant on our first night ....I had Fish & Chips with homemade Chunky chips ... The meal was cooked to perfection. My Husband opted for the Sticky Belly Pork with Spring Onion ... Once again cooked to perfection! The room was lovely and we had 2 of the best nights sleep we've had in a while. The bed was so comfortable and beautiful Crisp Cotton sheets ... The staff were so pleasant too and nothing was a bother to any of them. We will return ... Thank you once again.

Totally forgot to write a review for New Year's Eve Gala Dinner... But after seeing the previous person's review I feel I have to put my review across.. I attended this evening with some family members as we had booked the previous year when it was the Michael Jackson tribute which was excellent so we decided to book again for 2018. We arrived at the hotel and were greeted warmly by the staff who were very well presented. When we walked in the room to be seated we were blown away, the room was stunning and very festive. Firstly when everyone was seated the dj announced what we could expect from the evening. We were pleased to see it was the same dj as the previous year as he played our requests when asked the year before plus we have also attended a wedding at the croft when he was there so we knew we were in for a good night. The food was absolutely gorgeous, fresh, plenty of it and beautifully presented. The staff were always on hand if we needed anything. The bar was busy but we didn't wait too long to be served. Now on to the entertainment. The singer sang a wide range of songs from different era's, she was not the best I have heard but she was certainly was not the worst. On the table there were request cards for us to hand to the dj with our songs we wanted him to play if any. My family had fun deciding what we wanted to be played and laughed at some of our choices. There was a slight blip just before midnight when the dj announched the New Year which was a few minutes early. But hey we are human and mistakes can happen but it was quickly rectified. We all sang Auld Lang Syne in a circle holding hands which we enjoyed and the atmosphere was very partylike. I noticed everyone else was in good spirits too. After that the dj played some of our requests from the cards. I had picked Queen - Dont stop me now as it has a special meaning to me and was pleased that it was played for me. Just after 12.30 we were exhausted and left to go to our room as we were staying overnight. We had an absolutely fabulous night. We have already said we will be returning for New Year's Eve 2019. The next morning we had the most delicious breakfast cooked to perfection, plenty of tea and coffee. Some of the staff that were there the previous night were also there to serve breakfast and they were still extremely polite and welcoming. We can't wait to return to the Croft Hotel for our next family occasion which will most likely be for Mother's Day for lunch.

Pleasantly surprised at hoe good the hotel, staff and the whole experience turned out to be - thoroughly recommend this jewel in the area to anyone travelling on business - polite staff on arrival, big spacious rooms with a great shower and facilities.

Went to the New Years eve gala dinner for the second year in a row. Apprehensive because last years DJ was diabolical. Thought we'd give it another go as we thought we'd give them the benefit of the doubt. Firstly positives, food was lovely, service friendly and really good. But as we'd paid £65 a ticket let's get on to the live entertainment. Now I don't wish to be awful, I'm sure she was lovely but they'd clearly got the live entertainment from Lastminute.com . a singer who sang (in the loosest terms of the word). it sounded like a live dolphin barbecue, apparently she used to do backing vocals for car alarms. She shouted songs most of the crowd had never heard of, which were depressive not party songs and when people are moving out as if someone had announced a bomb scare, maybe's it's time to reassess your set. It could be that they mistook the singing for the fire alarm and tried to jump ship sharpish. But anyway, this wasn't the worst bit. The DJ, I was half expecting Ashton Kutcher or Jeremy Beadle to pop out because I was convinced we were being Punk'd. He barely played any songs, literally 10 or so, he was obsessed with announcing how long it was too new year. He interrupted the songs that were on, when people started to get up to dance he decided to kill that vibe dead with his, for want of a better word, "crack", so peole either went out or sat down. He announced the countdown early at the wrong time, not a big deal but he'd got us all up into an awkward circle with people looking at each other in awkward silence for 10 minutes, interspersed with a song he had to loop over and over again, just to kill some time. I mean this geezer does this for a living, I know you want to get home pal but if you have to be there till one, play some songs people can dance to so they don't sit there awkward and maybe they could, you know, enjoy themselves. But and there's more, it a party yeah, you know you play party songs yeah, to get the atmosphere going. So imagine you wanna get a party jumping, barring the funeral march, what's the last song you'd play?. Let me answer that question for you, In the air tonight by Phil Collins, a song about how Phil wouldn't save his wife who was dying from drowning because she had an affair. AT THE WRONG FLIPPING SPEED LOL. I have literally never been witness to anything like this in my life

This hotel has recently been upgraded I would imagine. The reception area is comfortable and welcoming, the staff all friendly the bedroom delightful and the food was very tasty whilst offering value for money. The location is a bit in the middle of nowhere but we used it to cut a journey to Scotland in two and for that it was ideal. 10 mins from Scotch Corner.

We attended the croft hotel for Christmas day lunch. The lunch was by far the worst lunch we have ever had . Starter was some kind of warm prawn cocktail which was disgusting. Frozen prawns . Over cooked and of very poor quality. The sorbet which tasted like a frozen fresh orange was not like any sorbet we have ever tasted (disgusting) .no one ate it. Main meal was much the same . Plates were warm but food was cold . Food was again of very poor quality. We did complain but I feel this fell on deaf ears. We have visited many restaurants in the past and many of them have been owned by Best western which have been lovely . We would not recommend The croft restuarant to anyone and will certainly not be returning. We feel that our family Christmas day lunch that we had been looking forward was spoilt. There was only an apology from management which was half hearted . We feel we should of been offered some kind of compensation. We were told to contact Best western ourselves,which we will be doing . Our advice would be to not visit this low quality over priced restaurant

Booked for afternoon tea after receiving a voucher. First disappointment was trying g to book for 4pm and advised only served from 12:30pm to 2:30 pm. Surely afternoon is afternoon and not Lunch time. Hotel is in a lovely location and like other Best Western hotels friendly. We have had a lot better read I must say. 3 finger sandwiches each, nit good if you don't care for fish. One Tuna , one Smoked Salmon and one ham . The salmon has nothing in with it and I feel normally quite thinly sliced. This was like chunks of Salmon so like a dainty sandwich at all. One fruit scone each, with a little jar of jam each and cream, not clotted. The scones were actually cold, as if just lifted out of the fridge. A little selection of cake, a Lemon Posset , which was just like something g was blended together and poured into the glass, nothing to write home about and a Maccaron each. A pot of tea each. Nothing startling and certainly wouldn't go back,. If they don't serve lunch then I feel they should try harder with afternoon tea at a decent time and make it a bit more special

Stayed here for one night to go to a friends wedding. Absolutely lovely hotel and we loved the room we were given, the price wasn't too steep and food was offered. Not difficult to find and the room and bathroom were very comfortable and spacious. Definitely recommend! And would stay again!

Nice hotel in darlington for business stay. Good diner some nice beers. Friendly staff. Large room , huge bathroom. Amenities could be better . Overall recommended hotel at great price and good value for money .

This is our third stay at this lovely, friendly hotel. All the staff looked after us in the most friendly and professional manner, especially Nathan and Amy who went out of their way to give us another very comfortable, relaxing mini break, and our room was kept spotlessly clean and well provisioned by the housekeeping team.

This was our second attempt at Sunday lunch at the Croft Hotel and since the first one wasn't anything to right home about, things could only get better. Right? How wrong we were. Speed is the problem in this establishment and Sunday lunch for some is a relaxing experience however 90 minutes for our three courses was anything but relaxing. Firstly, it's tough to get a table as the reception/bar is unmanned. Four other couples walked away, tired of waiting, while we were there. Food comes at a snails pace as does the clearing of used plates and it's not because they're busy at the Croft, during our one and a half hours of sitting in what looked like a booth from Game of Thrones, only ten individual lunches were served. There's an establishment ten minutes down the road at Stapleton that knocks out ten Sunday lunches every ten minutes, for about four hours solid. How quiet it was at the Croft reflects not on the food, while not great, is at least passable however stay clear of the super expensive half pint of soda water and lime, £1.95 or half pint of lemonade, £1.90. These are Peroni prices!Sunday lunch is easy and should be quick, not laborious through lack of training and poor standards. £16.94, three courses and your there that long you should probably be paying rent.

This hotel is a gem , and I don't really want to post this review as it means other people will find out about this Gem of a hotel . Stayed one night on a special Saturday deal and must say its the Best of the Best Western hotels we have stayed in , the suit was brilliant as was the staff who made you feel so welcome and nothing was too much bother . The food was also very good and filling as was warned by staff . There was a wedding on whilst we stayed but this did not cause us any problems as previous posts . We will be staying again in the future as really enjoyed our stay

We have stayed at Best Western Hotels many times and this is by far the worst one yet. There were a group of us (17) on a walking week-end and there were not many other people staying at the hotel at this time. Our main complaint was about the food. It appears that each evening there was a different agency chef cooking. The food was very poor overall with a few exceptions. We did complain in a pleasant way but were just told they were sorry. Our rooms were not very warm and we asked several times for the heating to be turned up. Also the rooms hadn't been cleaned very well - there will still sequins on our bedroom floor which we assume was from a recent wedding party. It seems that the hotel is being run on a shoe string with very little staff. None of our group were happy and we wouldn't stay there again.

I spent a couple of nights at The Croft whilst in Darlington on business. I booked online for a reasonable price. When I checked in I had a great surprise. The room was bigger than expected, very clean, modern and nicely furnished. A big TV at the end of the bed, a comfy chair and a modern and bright en suite. This was the sort of room that I've paid twice the price for in other cities. It didn't finish there. The staff are a credit to their employers. They were friendly and extremely courteous. The food in the restaurant was nicely cooked. The menu was not extensive but offered a well thought out range of dishes ideally suited for those staying a night or two. Well done The Croft.

Very nice hotel, friendly staff, very good venue for a wedding or any occasion. Very good food and the evening entertainment was really good with an excellent DJ who really connected with the guests. Beds comfortable, bathrooms lovely and breakfast excellent. I would recommend this hotel for anyone staying for any reason. The local countryside is also lovely

Popped in for lunch on a quiet Monday lunch time. Staff were very helpful and the food was very tasty. I had fish and chips and my wife had the hot beef baguette. Lots of food for a reasonable price. The hotel is absolutely immaculate inside. Will be heading back for sure.

Recently had my wedding here and there was nothing to fault at all. The staff were absolutely amazing all day, the canapés were delicious and the wedding breakfast was faultless. Quick turn around for the night too. Nathan and Courtney were great in helping plan the day and made sure everything was perfect for us. Breakfast on the morning was great and let you swap bits you didn't want for more you did. Amazing pictures on the inside due to rain but on the bridge too. High key recommend anyone thinking if booking their wedding here. It was magical and wish we could do it all again

We have stayed a couple of times now and the staff have always been lovely and the rooms great. Very clean. We have stayed twice whilst weddings have been on and it didn't impact on our stay at all. It was very separate. Breakfast was great too. Perfect for a night away. We will be back x

We stayed in a family room for this wedding meeting friends from the past the hotel was pristine the staff were helpful nothing was to much to ask the day went to perfection with photo team putting people at ease and taking fantastic photos the food was the same nothing to much trouble a big thanks to all the staff even Paul the dj for doing a great job it only seems like 5 mins since we got married here but in truth it was 15 years ago a big thanks to the team and a big thumbs up only problem if you want breakfast to the room book in advance as no door cards in room

Stayed one night in family suite. Very good modern decorated hotel with character. Well appointed shower room (no bath available). Very comfortable bed, with room on back of the hotel was quiet. A few features would have made an excellent room, for example, there were no sockets near the sofa. Check-in and check-out were efficient and friendly. Breakfast was ok but nothing special,. We did not visit the restaurant.

My Cousin stayed here while visiting us, as it was my birthday we decided to have a meal, what a mistake ! Her scampi was hard, my husband and I decided on The Balti, I have never had a balti which had baby corn, mange tout and green beans in it, we think these may have been left over from Sunday lunch ! The Balti was so bitter and the rice was overcooked, we did complain and the girl did take 50% off the bill but how can a hotel which the rooms and staff are so nice churn out such poor food !

My colleagues and I were in Darlington with work and was not expecting to stay the night. Circumstances changes and we had to find a hotel for the night which is when we came across the croft hotel. would highly recommend this hotel for a stay, just everything you'd want, rooms were excellent and the staff were very welcoming too :)

Stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast, and free bottle of wine. Brilliant deal. The hotel has had a lot of money spent on it since our last visit. The bedroom was enormous with a huge comfy bed, the bathroom beautiful. The breakfast was excellent, especially the full English. The best part of the hotel are the staff. So hard working, and always smiling and pleasant. The young lady at breakfast was exceptional. Will stay again soon.

We would like to say a massive thank you to Nathan and all the staff at the Croft Hotel for an absolutely fantastic wedding day for our son Richie and his beautiful bride Helen. The day was just perfect, a lovely service conducted by a wonderful registrar, delicious food, good wine and a really fun night ! We felt that all the staff really did care about making this the best day for us all, and you certainly exceeded our expectations. Everyone is saying how much they have enjoyed the day ! Well done, and thank you to your Wedding planner, Photographers, DJ, especially loved the Mr & Mrs Quiz !! At the end of a wonderful celebration , we stayed overnight in a suite , with a lovely comfy bed and modern bathroom with rainfall shower, enjoying a delicious breakfast the following day. My wife and I had our wedding at this wonderful venue in early August. From the point of booking the manager (Nathan) and wedding coordinator (Courtney) were simply amazing. They kept us on track with everything we needed to organise pre-wedding and nothing was a trouble for them. On the day they worked there socks off behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly. The venue itself looked amazing and the food was delightful, lots of guests commented on this. As part of our wedding package we got a fabulous photographer 'Christography' who was calm, humerous and most importantly took amazing photos. Also included was 'Ultrasound' who ran the evening entertainment brilliantly. Finally the honeymoon suite was out of this world. Anybody looking to book a wedding venue must go and at least view The Croft Hotel.

Sometimes I'm concerned at staying with Best Western, this being a 'Plus' version was a first for me and a pleasant surprise. The room I stayed in was large, immaculate, quiet, had a lovely bathroom with a brilliant shower and a great modern and very large TV. The staff were all helpful and professional, the breakfast was good too. I didn't have an evening meal in the restaurant and so can't comment on that. Definitely a step up from a normal Best Western.

We stayed here on a Saturday evening on a Dinner Bed and Breakfast deal. Hotel has been recently modernised and was very comfortable. Food was excellent, both at dinner and breakfast, nicely cooked and presented.

The temperature in the hotel was just too much in the heatwave we recently had. The breakfast and meals were quite nice though, I did like the cheese board which I felt I needed to have a couple of times!

We went as a couple as we were going to a gig at The Forum. The Receptionist arranged us a taxi and we ate before going out in the restaurant. Room was spacious, food was good, staff were friendly and attentive. Lots of selection at breakfast and you can have a late one too - result! To sum up ...... a well run Hotel not too far out of Darlington offering amazing deals....try it!

We stayed here for short break of 5 nights. The hotel was located on the main road through the village about 3 miles south of Darlington.The entrance and public areas was welcoming and well laid out. Our double room was quite small and faced the main road so was quite noisy. As it was warm weather we had to leave the window open overnight, so were woken by cars passing early in the morning (sash window with no double glazing)..This room and en-suite was very small compared with other rooms in the many Best Western hotels we have stayed. Only just enough room to walk around the bed! The breakfast was reasonable. We felt that the staff could have been more welcoming.

I stayed here recently for 1 night for work and I am sorry that I didn't stay here for a previous visit to the area. Staff were very helpful. Food was excellent with large portions (especially the bake camembert starter). Full english breakfast was also delicious (especially the bacon). My room was very good although I did wake up with back pain and I struggled with the TV controls. The room had a large new Samsung TV. Only thing missing was a bath in the room. The hotel has been well decorated and there are interesting features like thick wooden beams and walls, as I assume the building is quite old. I would recommend staying here as it is very good value for money.

My husband and I stayed at The Croft Hotel as we were going to a concert nearby. The hotel was really lovely and our room was gorgeous. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. The food was delicious too. I would like to say a special thank you to Aimee who rang around for taxis for us and sorted out food when the kitchen was closed and also a huge thank you to Lauren who made us feel at home, she was very friendly and the service was first class. Will definitely be returning.

I use this hotel regularly for business trips and can highly recommend it. The staff are friendly and attentive and it represents good value for money. It's in a good location and the walk into Hurworth village is worthwhile when you've been stuck on your car all day.

Very comfortable hotel set near the river in the centre of the village. Room was good, check-in was prompt. Dinner menu is conventional middle of the road. One small quibble: cups for a single espresso shoud be warmed, otherwise the coffee arrives cold. Our room safe was a superior model with a light and number display. Unfortunately it malfunctioned and would not open. The handyman took it out of the room and cut it open with an angle-grinder: all done so that we coud leave on time.

A quick and welcoming check in. Our room was was huge with a king size bed and a great bathroom with a walk in shower, that had plenty of hot water. Everything was beautifully clean. The room didn't have a great view (room 8) but just for a nights sleep it was fine. Only odd thing was a table between the two chairs, it looked like it had come from the bar downstairs. Too high for the chairs to be comfy.

One of those days where we hadn't booked ahead and getting anxious about finding something suitable. Up popped the Croft on Tees. Nice clean appearance and a most pleasant stay. We fluked a cancellation and from the warm welcome from Amy on reception, to a spotless room with near new roomy en-suite and delicious brekky I'm giving The Croft a big FOUR STARS.

I booked a table last Friday night for my partner and I, he never had Friday nights off so this was a rare occasion! We thought it would be nice to go further afield and try somewhere new. There was a wedding on in the hotel which meant the restaurant wasn't private, there were kids running and screaming, jumping up and down on the furniture. Not the ideal setting for a nice meal! The staff were cold and all looked like they didn't want to be there. The food was terrible, the pate actually smelt and tasted like dog food, the prawns were rubbery and replicated a microwave ping meal! Upon the waitresses recommendation i ordered the pulled pork flat bread, i got burnt, hard, crispy pork that i couldn't even chew - it was actually rock solid. The waitress deducted this from the bill. There was one other family eating in the restaurant who also complained about their steak meal and accompanying sauces. Overall it was a terrible experience and i certainly wouldn't recommend this place nor would i revisit. A lot of improvements to be made to say the least.

Late Rooms advertised a double room at The Croft Hotel which booked with them on that morning. As the Whit Bank Holiday weather forecast was so good we decided to for that day and The Croft sounded just what we were looking for within an hours drive from home. So we set out to arrive for the advertised on Late Rooms check in time of 2pm. We arrived on a lovely sunny day at old fashioned coaching inn facade -which is what originally was when built back in 1825 - to be welcomed with a surprisingly swish and modern interior . The best of both old and new. So far so good. At this point we were informed the hotels double rooms were fully booked and check in wasn't until 3 pm. To be fair the hotels deputy manager had been trying to let us know since they received the booking referral from Late Rooms earlier in the day. The receptionist explained Late Rooms should not have sold these rooms as there was none available. The receptionist though realised we were the innocent party in all this and offered a free telephone service so we could contact Late Rooms. After holding the line it was apparent the staff at Late Rooms had also taken a holiday too as there was no answer . Meanwhile the Croft Hotel staff had checked out the Late Rooms site and found they were still offering double rooms at The Croft for that night. And advertising check-in at 2pm. At this point the Croft staff did everything possible to assist. Although check in was not due for another hour , they organised with housekeeping a twin room to be made available and this was allocated to us with a complimentary breakfast as an apology even though The Croft was at fault. The room was lovely , clean, spacious, very comfortable and very modern with a great bathroom and walk-in shower. Room 22 if your wondering. A lovely and peaceful nights sleep in was followed by a great freshly cooked breakfast in the morning. All the staff did their upmost to make you welcome and put right what wasn't their wrong. Great service , excellent weather and lovely relaxing overnight stay. Would stay here again and recommend this hotel to others. Just be very cautious if using Late Rooms for your booking. An absolute bargain... room great, lovelt clean en-suite and the deal included a bottle of wine in the room and £25 each towards our evening meal which was gorgeous. The full english was delicious aswell. The staff were lovely. It was so nice we got home and booked another night here to look forward to in August!

Everything was excellent up untill the morning when we found only 1 tea bag in the tray(i was told company policy)and then no hot water for a shower which was just as well as the bath towel hod a massive hole in it.

Hi I decided to take my wife to Croft Hotel for our wedding anniversary and booked the bridal suite. So we arrived 30 mins early before check in not expecting to be able to check in at all. We walked to reception where a guy was sitting behind the counter. He didn't say hello or welcome to Croft Hotel he just said are you checking in ? We replied yes....... the answer was No chance!!! We were full last night so if can have a seat in the bar. We thought yeah fine but a bit abrupt. So we left it until 2:30 which was check in time and again we were told no it's not ready it will be another 20 mins...... when I questioned this and that we have paid for the room from 2:30 we kept getting the same excuses that they had been busy the night before. Whilst this discussion was taking place at reception the Manager was sat right next to this rude receptionist and not once did he raise his head to intervene. We were offered a free drink and we sat back down. An hour later we were finally given the key to our room. We went to the door but to our frustration the key card had not been programmed.!!!! While we were stood outside the room we noticed two huge spiders sitting on cobwebs above the door which was quite funny as we were now thinking we were in Fauly Towers but not very nice really. So we get into the room to find it freezing cold so we switched the radiator on which didn't work. My wife went to run a bath in the lovely double bath but the water was barely tepid and useless as a bath. We called reception who brought down a plug in heater and told us they had switched the hot water on lol. As my wife lay in the now warm bath shouted for me to point out the HUGE SQUASHED SPIDER on the window surround above the bath. Needless to say she got out quickly. As the room is the bridal suite it has a lovely upstairs area for brides to get prepared. Unfortunately the sliding doors were hanging off their hinges and leaning against the wall but what was absolutely disgusting was the bridal nail bar in the room that was still full of someone's old fingernails. Honestly I could go one and one but I think you get the picture. It's such a shame as this Hotel has clearly had a lot of money spent inside as the decor is very nice but it is just not very clean and one or two staff members need to remember that customers are the lifeblood of their business. My advice DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Such a shame it could be very nice.

Very average, watery gravy. Asked for veggie spring roles for a starter and got duck spring roles instead. I normally would of said something as mistakes do happen but the moment I walked in restaurant I felt uncomfortable, and not treated as a paying customer. Honestly I wish I walked straight out.

Renovated since my last visit but still retains a certain charm - the staff are still friendly and efficient- well equipped rooms . Outside a very old bridge with views down the Tees and a historic church

The decor is really nicely done so unusual.sofas in the bar area quite a spacious area .it was very quiet but I'm sure it will be busy on an evening ,large dining areas more than one area to have food all lovely decor.The ladies toilets were very posh with lovely lamps ,nice building and a really nice old church next to the hotel .parking behind the hotel and outside seating at the front.i can't comment on the food as we only had a drink

I was visiting friends in Darlington and decided to book at the Croft. I was not disappointed. The journey to Darlington was easy and I appreciated walking over the bridge, looking at the River Tees. I had a refurbished room which was fantastic. All fixtures and fittings were of a high quality. Parking was easy. There were one or two problems but they were quickly dealt with. Breakfast was a self service buffet but the cooked option was waitress served. Do be aware that the road outside is busy although I did not find the noise too intrusive. I would stay here again !

We stayed here for 2 nights for my daughters Wedding. From start to finish the staff here were brilliant. The breakfast, the wedding food for the day and evening was excellent. A very pleasant stay in what appears to be a recently refurbished hotel, with lovely decor. clean and tidy, good food, warm and welcoming - Would stay again. On a busy road, but windows keep out most of noise... most staff great, but Nathan Longthorne (manager) keep an eye on breakfast waiting staff, one of wich soured our experiance on one of the days. Minor observation for manager - room 2 electrical box hummed at night and shower tray, lovely as it was, may have had a leak

We stayed here with friends it was a special offer we got b&b dinner and a bottle of wine per couple all for 39.50 each fantastic , my husband has a bad back it wasn't a problem they put us on the ground floor in a upgraded room .Ian the bar manager and claire on reception are a credit to the hotel nothing was a problem , the food was lovely on the night , only down side was breakfast waited a long time not really anyone around to clear tables and look after you.overall the hotel is great value for money nice relaxing night away with friends. We will definitely be back .

Got a really good deal , room , 2 course dinner , wine and breakfast - 6 of us stayed and went into Darlington town for drinks after the meal . Hotel was nice and clean food was good better than we expected with a steak option included in the price - the staff were friendly except for the breakfast waiter but maybe he was just tired . Would stay again and recommend !

Room was very comfortable and clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. It's a bit out the way from the town centre but all round a decent place to stay. Only slight issue is that there is no sky sports in the bar.

My husband and I had a one night stop here on our way to Scotland. The room was much bigger than we'd expected, with great shower and comfy, large bed. We had dinner as well as breakfast and both were very good. The staff were helpful and friendly. All in all a hotel we'd consider again if we travel 'up north' !.

They say don't judge a book by its cover this applies to this hotel pulled up at the front entrance which faces the road weather beaten at first sight went to car park at rear what a difference great car park great entrance walked in what a surprise we got so modern and very welcoming good experience checking in could not have been more helpful we were on the second floor as this is a grade two listed building they can't fit a lift so if you have difficulty walking ask for a ground or lower floor got to our room which we thought was very good large television which makes a change bathroom looked newly refurbished fantastic shower went down for evening meal our deal included bottle of wine which was very good ordered the lamb leg joint perfectly cooked as was the soup I started with the staff were exceptional the restaurant manager Ian goes above and beyond could not do enough for everyone in the restaurant we were there for two nights the second meal was as perfect as the first must have good chef as everything cooked to perfection great breakfast as well we will be returning if you have as good visit as we had you will be satisfied

Stayed here one night on Wednesday 28 March 2018. We got room 2, which was fine, although it only had a shower, albeit a very good one. We didn't ask for room with bath as only staying one night. Bathroom generally good, but loo roll quite a distance from actual toilet bowl!! WiFi not strong in room, but noted it stronger elsewhere in hotel. Very comfortable bed, though TV at foot of bed a wee bit off putting. Cleanliness fine. Couple of minor niggles with food. When we had dinner, my food was fine, but the batter on my partner's fish was undercooked. Mentioned it to staff. At breakfast the next morning my partner's fried egg was very undercooked, and my scrambled eggs slightly undercooked. Rest of breakfast was fine. We would stay again, but would probably ask for a room with a bath. More relaxing at end of a long day.

When we booked this hotel we thought the deal seemed to good to be true and was sure there would be a catch . We were checked in by s lovely chatty lady who arranged for our complimentary bottle of wine to be delivered to our room . The room was lovely and comfortable only small criticism was that the tv stand at the end of the bed with a large tv nearly got knocked over due to my husband being tall and kicking the stand when he turned over in bed so could be moved further away from the end Iv the bed . Also the loo roll holder is quite a distance away from the loo in the room we stayed in The food at dinner and breakfast was lovely and well presented. We did chuckle as the staff in the kitchen obviously are oblivious to the fact that the people in the restaurant can hear every word they say or sing when it's not busy . All in all we loved this hotel and would stay again . Excellent value for money and I have already recommended it to friends

When you're offered a hotel a budgetary rates, you set your expectations accordingly. How surprised was I to see the room I had was more akin to one three times the price... From the rooms to the restaurant the hotel is a delight. As I'd expect from the location, all the staff are polite and charming; they can't do enough to make your stay a real pleasure. I will most definitely return to the Croft Hotel

Telling your friends that you're going to Darlington might raise an eyebrow or two. Yet 5 miles south of the historical market town is a string of villages along the river Tees. Croft-on-Tees is the tiniest of these, a mere crossing of the river, a clump of houses, a church, and a fabulous looking former coaching inn; The Croft Hotel. Recently updated to a very nice standard, it offers a bar, restaurant, and 24 lovely bedrooms. A hiccup whilst we waited at reception for a few minutes was washed away by a very friendly and helpful member of staff, even though she couldn't book us in, she did find the right person. The room we booked was quite big, very clean, and very comfy. The king sized bed had a revolving tv at the end of it, the tub chair could be used for many hours if required, and the bathroom had a walk in shower with a welcoming waterfall shower head. After a long night's sleep, breakfast was a choice of croissants and pain au raisons, yoghurts, about 5 or six fruit juices, jugs of milk, individual boxes of cereals, and a further menu card with a range of choices of cooked options from full English through salmon, etc. Served with a friendly smile, and delicious, it was a great way to start a busy day. We had an evening meal, as it was Sunday and all the other local pubs had closed their kitchens early. There was a pleasant choice 1, 2, or 3 courses, with between 3 to 5 choices of each course, and all for a very reasonable price. Drinks were also very reasonable, with some unusual choices of wines, which was worth the try. The price, using their Winter deal, was excellent, comparable to a Travelodge price, not a very nice quality hotel, so if you can, grab the bargain and it will be great. So, why only 4 out of 5. There was the wait and hiccup when booking in, and the hotel is mainly used by business people, so they do have some tiny niggly processes, e.g. only 1 pack of biscuits in the room. This might seem picky, but as I can't give them 4.5 out of 5, I had to drop it down that bit more. Finally, and the big test questions are would we go back, and would we recommend this place? Being honest, and very selfishly, we're tempted to not recommend it as it only has 24 fabulous bedrooms, and we don't want it to be fully booked next time we go! The local area is full of history, beauty, and fun, and this place is a great place to use as a base. Enjoy, but take your own biscuits :-)

Most impressed when we walked in done out in a great modern taste. The room was of a good size and again pleasently decorated and the tile bathroom was fab. The young lady on reception was very friendly and turned out she was also working the bar later and in restaurant. We only had a main course each but both were excellent. My partner had the Croft burger which was fresh and done just right but on the large side. I had the Mongolia pulled Lamb Pitta bread again excellent. This was a great choice done at the last minute. Would recommend without any hesitation.

Me and my partner stayed here for a date night. We had amazing food from a menu with plenty of fab choices. We then sat in the bar area and had drinks where the atmosphere was lovely with music on in the background and plenty of quirky details around the hotel itself. We then stayed in a suite, which was again amazing, with lots of room, and beautiful decor, and not forgetting the huge bath tub! And the breakfast were lovely! Overall the hotel was fabulous and all the hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We have even booked our wedding here for May 2019!

Our visit started badly when we waited 15 minutes at reception on arrival and then found that our booking via Best Western was unknown to the hotel! They did find us a room though. The hotel has recently been refurbished to a high standard, our room was large, clean, comfortable with a good shower room. It was let down by the staffing during the first part of our stay but improved by the time we left.

I've stayed here on three separate occasions and all of them have been great. The food has been excellent and the service attentive. I've stayed at many hotels and this is one of the few that can provide my breakfast bacon and scrambled eggs exactly right (bacon crispy and scrambled eggs creamy). The bathroom was very clean, roomy and well lit; the bed was comfortable. The staff in reception welcoming. As near as possible to coming home as you can get. Marvellous value. Will be staying again.

Nicely appointed rooms and public areas let down by a very poor dining experience. 45 minute wait for our starters is excessive for a chicken salad and a baked Camembert! The main course was a further 30 minute wait and the dessert another 30 minutes. Food was average at best. Poor service added to the disappointment. The following morning the breakfast was ok but wasn't hot, as if it had been stood for a while before being served. Definitely room for improvement. We have since cancelled an existing booking after this visit.

I stayed at the hotel for one night, on a business trip. The room was really comfortable, a good size and very modern. The food in the restaurant was great quality (Burger recommended). Staff members were extremely friendly during my stay, which I deem so important. My only grumble would be about Wi-Fi and the connection in my room, it kept dropping in and out for me, and it was quite a weak connection.

Stayed on a room only basis, couldn't be faulted. Large comfy bed, nice big shower. Extra milk and tea provided when asked. Rooms can be a little on the cool side if you end up with a big window due to the age of the building and original Windows which can be a bit draughty. We were at a private party up at Rockcliffe Hall so this was a far more economical stay just a few minutes drive / £8 taxi ride away.

Wouldn't recommend ever !! We booked the honeymoon suite after our wedding. We've never been let down so much ?? They ruined our wonderful day... We we're sent down a dark corridor to a cold room ... no nice touches like wine or flowers. The jacuzzi bath ran cold a member of staff came and said the tap was temperamental !! The blinds in the bathroom weren't wide enough and the room was ground level onto the car park It was valentines night and they refused us to be able to sit in the restaurant. The food (starters) was cold the staff were disgraceful and inconsiderate. We were frustrated angry and upset they didn't care at all. We ended up getting a taxi home without unpacking still in my wedding dress and not staying..... We would never return

stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in january , its a very nice hotel and very good value apart from the wifi in the room, ours was none existent, if you wanted wifi you would have to go to the commual area where the tv and restaurant are on the ground floor, i did complain but they couldnt do anything about it i was told. spoiled the stay for us. but i would stay again if they sort that one thing that let it down for us. staff were really nice especially the breakfast lady.

Great staff, excellent breakfast - order cooked from a menu which is fabulous as well as cold items. Lovely spacious room with large power shower. Nice range of areas to sit near bar, near TV or quiet places.

The Hotel owners have obviously invested in the building in recent years but not much thought has been given to the entrance area. As you walk in the first thing you see is the bar. Reception is hidden round a corner. The most obvious thing was that there was no one doing "Front of House" greeting guests.. that set the tone for the rest of our stay.The room we had was spacious comfortable and warm. Bathroom was clean and modern thought the shower selector for rainfall/handheld was broken. As we arrived on a Sunday we decided to avail of Sunday lunch. a VERY average meal..the worst mash I've ever eaten.based on this we decided not to try the evening meal, but just the breakfasts we had paid for. Sadly again this was disappointing.The hollandaise sauce for the eggs benedict was truly awful.. Decaf coffee was instant (there's a nice coffee machine in the bar 20 ft away which seemed not to be in use in the morning ). The full English was better but beans had been microwaved to death. This place has much potential but was let down by lack of management/service style and above all poorly prepared food. Needs a new chef, and a manager with some vision. My feelings about the food were confirmed by some local residents who had heard similar stories.

Stayed here for one night with my son. Booked day before. Receptionist really helpful and friendly. Arrived early evening and room - no 6 - was ready for us. Nice, clean and warm. Decor is excellent throughout the hotel. Bed was comfy and everything expected was in the room....tea, coffee, hairdryer, ironing board etc. Room 6 overlooked the main road which wasn't overly busy and didn't impact our nights sleep, but I'm sure it would not be for everyone. Maybe investing in good double glazing might be a consideration. We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel. Food was great and plentiful. Waiting staff all friendly and couldn't have been more helpful.....despite being very busy. Overall, I'd thoroughly recommend this hotel. Thank you for a great visit.

stayed here for 4 nights in upgraded room which was lovely ,first night asked reception the meal times was told there would be a party of 10 at 5-30 so I booked meal for 6-30 come 6-45 still no table available and was told reception should not have booked us for 6-30 the party of ten were still at table when we told the waiter my wife is diabetic we got a table at 7-15service between courses was not good only 2 of a staff and it was not really busy.second night not much better 3 of staff. on last night of stay was valentines day we ordered steak one medium one well done the medium arrived under cooked we ordered an intermediate of melon it never arrived chips overcooked think they should change the oil ..cant fault the staff but there is something missing here small touch that could make this place so much better have staye d in a few best westerns before with no problems

Visited for Sunday lunch for the first time since the most recent refurbishment. The food was pretty average and not huge portions but it is reasonably priced and the pudding (apple crumble tart) was very good. You can ask for children's portions of all main courses and they were happy to provide any extras or substitutions.

Arrived at The Croft Hotel at 1-15 and told our room was ready. The room we were allocated was lovely but it was at the top up some extra small stairs which proved a bit to much for my husband's arthritis. James (I think that was his name)on reception and a member of the housekeeping staff couldn't have been more helpful and we were given a room on the first floor which was larger and also lovely. The food was amazing but the second night was a better and more extensive menu than the first night,staff were excellent but a bit thin on the ground.. The downstairs areas were cold as log burners weren't lit on both days we were there but upstairs was lovely and warm. Wifi was a bit hit and miss. We would definitely return to the Croft.

very friendly hotel, excellent value. I only stayed one night on business but found the staff very helpful, and the hotel well finished. Only slight downside was the time it took to produce breakfast (over 1/2 hr) but probably just one of those days. Otherwise excellent stay and good value

Lovely hotel with excellent, attentive staff. Large, clean room with comfy bed and superb shower. Enjoyable evening meal and good choice at breakfast. Will no doubt stay there again when we return to the area as easy access to Darlington, Richmond, Tees Valley, Swale Valley.

Wasn't impressed with my £19 sirloin steak so mentioned my grievance with some gangly figure called Ian who should never be in culinary environment as he was so disrespectful and unsympathetic to my dissatisfaction of my recently ordered meal. In other words I will refane from eating here as attention to customer satisfaction doesn't exist and I have the power to take my £ elsewhere.

We had the bridal suite and we where very impressed .The bed was really comfortable televisin at the end of the bed the double jacuzzi bath was Devine . A spiral stair case up to the upper floor with a small lounge area with television , nail bar and salon type hair washing facilities all beautifully presented . Their where a couple of tiny negatives some of the walls need a touch up and the blind in the bathroom needs to be changed for a new one ,maybe two packs of biscuits in the welcome tea and coffee pack. We had a three course meal starter pate very nicely presented and tasty . We had the steak for our main course which again was very nice the only slight complaint we could have was we asked for the steaks to be rare and they came cooked to a medium but still nice and tasty . For sweet I opted for the baked cheese cake which I would highly recommend, my wife had the chocolate fudge brownie which she raved that this was an excellent brownie. We had drinks in front of a lovely log burner in a really pleasant lounge area . Ian works very hard and is a credit i am sure he would have given extra biscuits in the room if we had asked. I would highly recommend giving this hotel a try . Well done Ian and staff we totally enjoyed our stay.

Nice clean well decorated rooms. Massive shower! A little tight on teas and coffee in the rooms. Good food at reasonable prices but limited bar as I drink real ale. Beer was off on first night but rectified on second. Would use again no problem ??

Bearing in mind I had a meeting at a hotel 1/2 mile away that quoted £265 I was dubious when I got a rate of £50 at the Croft. How positive the experience was from start to finish Booking easy Checking easy Room excellent Bathroom excellent I would recommend this to anyone it was great value and great quality well done to the team too as they were positive and couldn't do enough to help 10/10

Stayed for one night bed breakfast and evening meal and can't fault this place. Staff were very friendly, smart and efficient. The room (24) on the ground floor was immaculate with a beautiful bathroom and very comfortable bed. The hotel itself is very cosy with a real log fire in the bar/lounge. Don't really know why people are so keen to pul this place bits as the prices are extremely competitive. If you want to pay £300 a night then go to Rockliffe Hall. From a couple who have travelled the world, we have no complaints whatsoever.

My wife and I stayed here as we were eating at a local restaurant and both wanted a drink, so stayed at the Croft Hotel overnight. Our room was ok, quite spacious and quiet, but was a bit cold and bleak, although the bathroom was very good, nice and modern. The hotel itself though was very poor. From reception staff to bar staff the service was very poor indeed, poor attitude, everything an effort and even scruffily dressed. We waited at reception for 10 minutes to check in, simply because no staff were on hand, and when they did arrive it was as if we had disturbed them somehow!! The hotel is outdated and in desperate need of a refurbishment too, tired and dreary, we will not go back

The hotel appears quite decent at first, however once you scratch the surface it really does need a few improvements, which appear the hotel are working on as the communal areas appear to have beed over hauled. The rooms are conformable but the paint is pealing off the walls in places and the windows are falling apart. There is no air con in the room and you can't open the window at all so I imagine it's not a nice place to stay in the summer, I do like fresh air in the room in the morning. I filled in the breakfast card and hung it on my door about 8pm and it wasn't collected, I did just go downstairs but what's the point in offering the service if nobody bothers with it.

After many years of cooking Christmas Day lunch, and now that my husband and I are retired, we treat ourselves to eating out. This year we decided to book The Croft Hotel as we haven't been there for a while and it's just a few miles from home. We were really impressed with the service we received, the staff were so pleasant and attentive for the duration of our stay. The meal itself was delicious with generous helpings. The atmosphere was perfect for us, not too crowded, not too noisy and with background music to our taste. We will certainly be recommending to friends and we will return!

The Croft is promoted as a function venue but guests are tolerated. It is a good idea to enquire if there is anything on when booking especially if you appear to be getting a very good rate. Nobody is going to volunteer the information and noise could be an issue. On my most recent visit, noise in the room had peaked at 94db by 22.30hrs and averaged 73db over the evening, albeit on an uncalibrated phone app. To put that in perspective, individual drum beats which severely rattled the window in its frame registered at around 60db. The vocalist and certain guitar chords resonated with the central heating radiator and associated plumbing causing them to reverberate along with the music and bathroom floor. To be fair the music, the live band having given way to a disco at some point in the evening, stopped at midnight sharp leaving the guests to wend their way and generally settle down. The lack of a window catch or sash chords perhaps facilitated the window vibrations and at least there was a block of wood to prop the window open if you wanted ventilation. The house keeping was tolerable, there was a biscuit to share along with a coffee. The usual toiletries were in evidence with exactly two tissues in the box but the shampoo bottle was empty. The shower fills the tray faster than the drain can cope so watch out for flooding. Top tip, if you book and pay online be sure to print and carry your receipt. Twice in the last twelve months the pre-paid room has appeared on the bill at checkout.

We stopped at this hotel, on way to visit family in the south. This hotel is in a small village, very close to a bridge crossing the Tees. Parking was outside the front next to the main road and I think it had parking at the rear. First impressions was that the decor was to a high standard, and looked very fresh. This continued in our room which was twin bedded. The bathroom was modern with a walk in shower. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean to a high standard. At the time of visiting, there was some changes being made to the kitchen staff, therefore a limited menu was available. We eat there two night, different menu each night. Choices were ok, the food ordered was reasonably priced, well presented and tasty. We eat in a bistro style restaurant. The serving staff, were pleasant and helpful. The only complaint was the our heating in our room seemed to be uncontrollable, very warm no matter the thermostat setting. The room window could not be opened, appeared painted shut which did not help. We reported this on checking out.

We stayed here (The Croft)x2nights while attending a wedding at the 5??Rockliffe. I would say, that the Croft gets a lot of trade from people attending weddings etc at the Rockliffe but can't afford the just ridiculous, unbelievable jaw dropping rates. The Croft is very easy to find and within easy reach of Darlington by car or bus etc. First impressions are very pleasing tho close to the busy A167. Ample free parking front and rear. At reception on the 21st Dec around 14.30 we checked in. Now, when you are greeted for the first time as a paying guest, as a receptionist you should get up out of your seat and greet guests in a welcoming manner. Not make a phone call and keep guests waiting. Offer to help with bags or even get the door?? Not remain seated while holding head up on your elbow. The room 22 is a bit on the small side and cramped, although in room we had fridge, safe, iron and excellent flat screen large tv??Room was clean and nicely prepared for guests. However, window is not double glazed and road traffic noise was quite loud. Mildew and condensation (see photo) unacceptable for guests and could be unhealthy? Shower room cramped but well lit. To manager, floor tiles are broke/loose and noisy. Shower is powerful but does not drain away quickly enough, needs sorting. Also, one biscuit, one cocoa?? It's a bit mean???? Breakfast: Dec 22nd how not to do breakfast!! ???? we were greeted by a young man heavily tattooed, now not offensive to us, I put it here so management can identify said person. Asked our room number if we needed tea/coffee ,he walked off??? On our table, no napkins, no sugar, no butter, no tablecloth, no milk and mix match of crockery. We thought we'd sat a already used table, but NO they were all badly laid???? Young man reappeared with coffee and took our order for cooked breakfast. We thought he would noticed lack of sugar etc, no, no chance? I got up and asked for it? Oh my god! Cooked breakfast!! Absolute garbage! Over cooked, extremely greasy, and barely warm?? I left it! Only fit for the bin and probably, I hope where it ended up. My wife asked for well done scrambled eggs, blimey at one point the eggs must have took fire! Black, greasy, inedible ???????? We had cereals, played it safe. We were never asked if all was ok because chef and tattooed young man were to busy sat warming there backsides and stocking the fire with logs in bar area, while scanning their mobiles seated in guest area!!? To management, correct me if I'm wrong? Is it Best Western PLUS? Policy for staff to sit in guest area in work/kitchen overalls while paying guests are being ignored? Unbelievable and rude! 2nd night we were woke at 2am by a female screaming and using the worst colourful language you could ever come across. In a very nearby room a couple were having an almighty domestic? When it sounded like the room was being trashed, we alerted reception! To be fair, who ever came to sort out the domestic, did so, promptly, professionally and in the appropriate manner??well done, our biggest thanks to you?? Breakfast: Dec 23rd. Oh my god........ what a difference! A very pleasant older lady who couldn't do enough. Pleasant, courteous and efficient. Tables were set to high standard with all the breakfast items you would need??croissants, pastry's, even toast. We did not order cooked breakfast for fear of the worst! Big thanks to the very nice lady who served us. Checkout, again , don't bother to get up, don't bother to ask if we enjoyed our stay, infact DON'T bother! To management: 1: receptionists need more training. 2: some staff are carrying others. 3: staff should never sit in bar area in overalls while guests are present. 4: get rid of chef who did breakfasts 22nd Dec. 5: we require a refund for the appalling breakfast 22nd!...... no chance! To sum up. I would not return and not recommend, hotel lacks commitment, professionalism and basic do's and don't ‘s. My advice, pay the ridiculously high prices at the ??????????Rockliffe.

What on earth has happened to the food, we have been regular sunday lunch visitors for the past year, never again, this has gone from one of the best to one of the worst, it was hardly busy in the first place but the wait was on the annoying side, then when the food came it was the polar opposite to our previous visits. School dinner with watery gravy is the best way I can describe it. I can only presume the previous chef has gone. I would chuck him a few quid and get him back.

Stayed here in August and can't wait to return! Hidden Gem in Darlington only a 10 minute taxi from the City centre. The hotel was warm and friendly with great decor. Amazing food & huge portions! Definitely recommend having the Sunday lunch if you can, it's delicious. Bedroom was clean, spacious and modern. Onsite Gym has everything you need whilst away for a short stay and to top it off the staff couldn't do enough for us. Couldn't recommend this place enough! Special thank you to Nathan the General Manager for making our stay so special.

Visited 3 or 4 times over the last few years because the food has always been great, with a good busy atmosphere for sunday lunch, the old manager a very well spoken slim gentleman in a suit must havd moved on and now I think they just rely on a barman and the young girls to run things and it all seemed a bit haphazard and after waiting over 40 mins for food we decided to go elsewhere, which is a shame. With the right people in charge this place could be a goldmine. Not sure if they do weddings but it would make a great location with the river Bridge under local church near by.

I am sorry to hear about your wait for your meal and I will look into this, we do cook all of our food fresh which can lead to it taking a little longer but not to this degree. Eight of us went for Sunday lunch, the general feeling about the meal was mediocre ,the starters were just okay , the turkey and beef were okay, veg good and the gravy good. If going again I would miss the tarter, cold thin slice of quiche and a few rocket leaves did not float my boat and one lady counted four tiny pieces of smoked salmon in her starter , the soup was probably the best. The decor is lovely, the place is clean and the log fires are dreamy.

I needed somewhere to stay that was reasonably close to Teesside airport as I had a 6am flight the next day. Booked this hotel as a last minute decision. I was not disappointed. The staff were very good and helpful, the room was quite large with a king size bed and the bathroom looked new and very clean. I was impressed. The building is an old building and has a good mix of old and new. I did not eat at the restaurant hence I have only given 4 stars. I was picked up by a friend and we went to the Bay Horse in Hurworth Village close-by (very nice), but I did look inside the restaurant and it looked cosy, candle lit and appealing. I stay at a lot of hotels and this one offered the best value for money I've seen in a long time. I would certainly stay again and no doubt give it 5 stars.

Stayed here Friday night. Staff were lovely, especially girl behind bar and Ian on reception. They never stop but are still incredibly friendly. Couldn't obtain taxi so Ian offered to take us to our destination. What an amazing guy and an absolute credit to the hotel. Will definitely be staying again

My son Lewis and now daughter in law Lyndsey held their wedding here on Saturday 21st October and we are all still talking about it. The hotel is the perfect wedding venue . Amazing stay with food to die for and staff that were only more than happy to help. We stayed on a Thursday and the atmosphere was lovely; cosy and romantic. Nathan and his team are really friendly and I'd highly recommend staying at The Croft to any friends and family.

Had such a good meal the last time we visited this hotel, although not happy with the room decor and comfort, and seeing that it had been refurbished decided to take the wife for a couple of nights break. the hotel is ideally situated for shopping in Darlington,Northallerton and visiting the surrounding area like richmond or the North Yorkshire Moors. Check in was easy and directed to our room on ground floor. The room was spacious clean and the facilities as expected. Room could do with an openable window to allow condensation evacuation as windows in the morning inside we soaking, had left bathroom fan on to help clear it but did not work. Could not connect to WiFi,either on mobile or ipad in room but as not a problem to me did not bother to find out if there was a problem, did notice other guests using WiFi in bar area. Sat down for meal on Sunday night which was a set menu, no al a carte on Sundays but thoroughly enjoyed the starter, home made soup and the turkey meal finished with lemon tart. The wife had the pork and said was the best pork had for very long time. Could not fault the breakfast in the morning as I think we were the only guests in for it on the Monday, served piping hot to order and cooked to my liking, no runny egg or undercooked cold sausage, the wife had scrambled egg and I noticed it was cooked with fresh eggs and not powdered as is usual in a lot of hotels. The a la carte menu was a bit disappointing for me, not enough choice, but again the soup and mains we had were well cooked and we both enjoyed, the dessert, apple crumble was excellent but I think because there were only a few diners we were served all the apple crumble the chef had made, pity we could not eat it all because it was lovely. The prices for the meals and drink we found very reasonable, the staff very friendly and efficient. The only thing I found was the heating did not appear to be switched on as on entering our room it was chilly and radiator never got hot on two nights we stayed. may have been due to number of guests staying at time. Overall I would come back and stay again no problems and would recommend it. Did stay in Q Hotel in Leeds two weeks ago supposed to be 4 star but Croft better by 2 stars than that.

Very special day for our new daughter in law Lisa and our son Lee. All their best-laid plans made possible by the manager Nathan. The dining area was splendidly set up. Excellent food served by friendly staff. Our room for the night was clean and a very comfortable bed, modern bathroom with walk-in shower. Vast choices for breakfast with endless tea or coffee. We stayed at the Croft in a party of 22 for 2 nights, including dinner on both nights. The food was very good, the rooms big and clean. The staff worked so hard to make it a really nice stay. Ian and Diane deserve particular praise.

Arrived and got myself settled in my room within an hour I had left. No Wi-Fi in any if the rooms due to fault which I was advised by a member if the team had been problems for 2 weeks. Would have been better to have advised me during my check in to have saved me wasted time and effort. Wi-Fi in rooms a complete necessity for the business traveller.

There for a small reunion. Staff were friendly enough but not enough of them. Private room had a ceiling leek. Beef for the formal dinner was as tough as shoe leather with one of our group requesting a sharper knife as she could not cut through it. Breakfast on the final day completely under resourced yet should have known how many guests were staying.Rooms spacious enough but ours suffered by being to close to a noisy fan

Following the decline in the hotel restaurant awhile back we decided to stop going there. However, knowing it was now under new management and has now been refurbished we thought we would give it another try. We called in early yesterday (Wednesday) evening for a meal. Well, what a transformation to the interior, it certainly has come alive. It was warm, welcoming (thanks Kim), nicely furnished and clean toilets (gents). As for the food, it was excellent, you could not fault the portions, quality and quantity (if anything too much!). Cannot comment on desserts, not enough room to sample. As for the overall price, acceptable! We will return in the near future to sample their Sunday Lunch and take advantage of their loyalty card. Hopefully it could become a regular dining habit. If any criticism, the wooden dining tables appear to be tacky to touch and coasters would be good on the glass tables in lounge. That's it, see you again soon!

Arrived on a Friday evening after a five hour drive. It was 8.45 and we were told that there was a one hour wait for food. I had had a hospital procedure carried out on my eyes that afternoon and could not see well enough to eat a sit down meal. My request for a basic sandwich to eat before an early bed to rest my eyes was turned down flat. Turned out that the rest of the party never got their meal because the chefs finished before orders were completed. They had to get a take away pizza! Saturday night we booked the table earlier and everything was fine although a couple of meals had to be sent back. This was rectified with a change of order. The room we had was excellent. Clean and comfortable with lovely shower. Breakfast again was very good. I think the problem with this hotel is lack of staff on the restaurant front. If this was addressed I would consider staying here again.

A super overnight stay - the bed was very comfortable and the room was peaceful. Excellent powerful shower. We were meeting friends for dinner and hoped this would be good - it was superb! A range of starters, main courses and desserts were ordered and everyone was completely satisfied with their choice. Interesting choice of ingredients and beautifully presented. Highlight for me was the seafood linguine - absolutely delicious. Piping hot, the mussels were large, moist and tasty, the prawns and salmon perfectly cooked and the sauce was a dream! Staff were efficient, friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We would certainly stay here again if in the area.

Well what can I say? I had my wedding at croft hotel yesterday and wow! Obviously being a bride I had my worries....what if this isn't right, what if this goes wrong. Nope the whole day was pretty god dam perfect. The staff worked so hard to create an amazing day for everyone and let us know what was going on every step of the way. Nathan did an amazing job organising the day and Ian was a superstar hopping from one task to the other! Couldn't have asked for better staff. The food was unbelievable and got everyone talking, rooms were spotless, everything was set out beautifully! I just want to say a massive thank you. Really good hotel , from the Decor , staff and the most comfortable beds yet. The staff were really helpful and friendly although were short at breakfast time . The poor girl that was on her own did really well . The food was good but the best of all were the bed it was SO comfy.

Well it was a good choice to hold a wake for our cousin at the Croft Hotel And the staff were great - helpful, courteous and prompt to respond. The facility - the main function room was clean and tidy - although a tad clinical Food was provided for a hundred and the spread look very good - at first glance - and some bits were ok but as a general comment, management had made a fundamental mistake - they must have put it out early and failed to cover it. The upshot was that by the time we got to it the food was generally pretty dried out. This is a basic and unforgiveable management error - So for effort its 7 Brownlee points - for execution its a disappointing 3

The Croft Hotel My wife & I recently stayed at this delightful hotel. We were in fact attending a family wedding at the Rockcliffe Hall Golf & Spa Hotel. From booking the reservation at the Croft Hotel, until leaving was a pleasure. The staff were incredibly, we arrived approximately 11.30, our room was ready, really nice very spacious clean, the wow factor, could not fault it. The wedding was at 1.00, at Rockcliffe, what did the Croft Hotel do, only taxi us to the venue, unbelievably what a service. My special thanks go to Claire, who arranged our stay, & this lady started our day off perfectly. Nothing was a problem. More than 5 star service, that's for sure, we will certainly be going back to the Croft Hotel, furthermore, be telling friend & family about this remarkable Hotel. Got a warm welcome as soon as I arrived, got checked in without any delays. Room was very clean and comfortable, good facilities too, tea/coffee, hairdryer, iron and board to name a few. Only down side for me was I couldn't get a very good phone signal. Breakfast was a great choice but service was a bit slow only 1 girl on to serve. Coffee was cold by the time the cooked breakfast came. Would definitely consider staying again.

Stayed here for one night before a family wedding. It was a wonderful place and the staff was very helpful. Used to stay there as a child when my grandparents worked there. It brought back a lot of memories. Keep up the awesome atmosphere and quality.

I booked the Croft as my normal Teesdale hotel was fully booked. Ian at reception was very friendly and welcoming and offered me one of the newly refurbished rooms. The king-size bed was comfortable, the tv was a good size and the bathroom was modern. Like many older hotels, the room wasn't overly endowed with electrical sockets but otherwise everything was perfect. It's a shame the hotel is off the beaten track despite the beauty of the local countryside. But that's the reason you can get top quality accommodation at a knock-down price.

I've eaten here before and enjoyed the meal but this time, oh dear! Waited well over half an hour for an overcooked lasagne (baked black on the base) with dried up garlic bread which was more like fried bread than a lovely moist piece of garlic bread. The chips were good though! I opted for the early bird meal - just got in in time but gosh, poor service and an uninspiring area to eat in - dark and dingy. For a hotel it wasn't what I would have hoped for. Shame the Comet wasn't serving food that evening!

My 2 night stay was exceptionally good apart from the very slow service in the restaurant at dinner. breakfast was no problem. The room was of a very high standard and all the amenities including superb internet was most welcome.

stayed here for a night on way home from morpeth- the hotel has just had a makeover our bedroom overlooked farm fields. the receptionist was very welcoming. we had our evening meal there and it was the best food we have had in ages. we had a little ait for the meal and had ordered a bottle of wine. Just stayed at the croft for 2 nights attending a wedding at rockcliffe hall. Staff were very friendly, rooms were excellent and service good too. Nothing to much trouble when wanting something different to the menu. Food was very good and a fair price. Would definitely go back Thanks to all the staff who made our stay an enjoyable experience.

This was just somewhere to lay our heads as we had plans to attend a party at the otter and fish locally (which was superb). But after a very short discussion we have decided we will go back to enjoy everything the croft spa has to offer. Check in seamless! Bar lovely! Restaurant looked lovely! Sprawling staircase to first floor was impressive! Room modern, comfortable and very spacious Staff we encounter all friendly All in all we look forward to visiting again and would highly recommend x

Very good. Meat tender,succulent,veg good.A lot of ales empty,but what we're available acceptable.Possibly the best Sunday lunch in the Richmond area.Staff friendly and enthusiastic.Bill not as much as I expected.Will be back

Lovely lunch great service. Would be good to have some background music on. Can't wait to visit again. Went for coffee a few weeks ago we were made very welcome and was very relaxing. Scones were freshly made and delicious.

Really enjoyed our stay. Delicious meal and a newly renovated room. What more can you ask for. Oh yes very friendly staff. Lime, coconut and honey chicken skewers were delicious. Will certainly return.

This hotel has recently been refurbished and the standard of work is superb. The rooms are a delight, the bathrooms are bright and fully equipped, the walk in shower a delight and the beds so comfortable. Breakfast was excellent - real squeezed Juices, a full English breakfast cooked to order and so hot it was steaming. Plenty of coffee and a wonderful attentive server as well as a great cook in the kitchen. If you need somewhere in croft to lay your head, look no further, this is all you will ever want

We stayed at The Croft on Friday 28th July for one night. Check in was quick, efficient and friendly. The lady explained breakfast options and confirmed our dinner reservation for later that night. She also mentioned they had a live singer on in the bar that night... We had booked a standard double room. The room was lovely, really spacious and immaculate as was the shower room. A large shower cubicle, no bath, but that was no issue for us. Water pressure was great and there was complimentary shampoo and body wash provided. Our room faced onto the road at the front of the hotel. Although the road seemed to be fairly busy there was minimal traffic noise. We ate in the restaurant, both having different starters and mains and all food was delicious. Huge portions sizes. For the 2 courses and 2 alcoholic drinks the bill came in at just over £45. Really good value for money. Our server, Ben, was friendly and the service was quick and efficient on a fairly busy night it seemed. We also had a few drinks in the bar £7.40 for a vodka coke and jd coke so again, good value in a hotel. After dinner and a few drinks we returned to our room. The singer had just started in the bar when we left and unfortunately I dont think it would have been any louder in the bar than it was in our room. We were in room 9 and it felt like the bass was reverberating through it and we could hear the singer word for word. While I appreciate many places have live entertainment on a weekend and you have to maybe expect a level of noise, this really was loud in our room. I think from the layout of the hotel the singer was directly under our room - perhaps some forewarning wouldn't go amiss to people having to suffer in this room if live entertainment is on. In all fairness it was only from around 8pm till 1030pm. Unfortunately this was a major downside to our stay as we had gone away for a very rare, quiet night away from a rowdy 5 year old at home... This bears no reflection on the hotel as everything was was great, it was just unfortunate we chose to stay on the night we did. We did sleep well after the singer had packed in for the night. The beds were comfortable and the hotel and surroundings were quiet. Can't comment on breakfast as we didn't choose to have it at the hotel. I would return and would recommend the hotel wholeheartedly, but maybe check beforehand there is not a singer on, especially if you are in room 9 .... :)

Room loverly and bright , house keeping spot on could not fault how clean the room was. Bar area bright and modern, Food was loverly but a bit slow on serving , 45 mins wait only a few in ( did not see any function going on ). The only other down side is I'm a BESTWESTERN Member and I've had to telephone three times to get my points added , stayed at the being of the month and still not on, I feel another call having to be made !!!

We visited yesterday for afternoon tea. The staff were incredibly friendly and could not be faulted for their happy service. The afternoon tea itself was also lovely, and we really enjoyed it. The one downside to the afternoon tea was that there was only a choice of 3 sandwiches and often most places give 4. I would normally not complain about such a thing, but one of the sandwiches was salmon, which the majority of the party did not like and therefore did not eat. Of course we should have checked upon booking what the sandwiches are, but it would be a lot more helpful if your menu stated what sandwiches we would receive so a choice could be made beforehand to change this. I would suggest that if you only get three sandwiches, other filling choices may be a safer option? The only other thing I have to complain about is when we left we asked the staff to package up all the food we could not eat so we could take it home. However, upon returning home it was evident not all our food had been given back to us, especially as some of mine was missing. This is incredibly disappointing considering we had paid for it and asked for it to be packaged up - so cannot understand the reason for this? Having said that, the food itself was lovely, the staff were friendly, and the price was good too. The experience was just slightly dampened by the things mentioned above.

Ask for bedroom at back of building away from the road, Beautiful Listed building. We had a free upgrade via website to a superior room. Room was very spacious, recently refurbished to a high standard. Bathroom was beautiful. Bed incredibly comfortable. Immaculately clean. Night porter provided me with extra tea bags and milk, bonus. Only drawback is that because it is a Listed building it is single glazed with sash windows. I was at the front of the building and it is on a VERY busy road. I am used to traffic noise at night at home (on a rat run to motorway) but even I was kept awake by the traffic. If I had stayed longer I would have become used to it.

We had a superb Sunday lunch at an incredible cost of only £9.95. Roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, creamed and roast potatoes ,carrot and turnip mash, cauliflower cheese and mange tout with delicious gravy . All served in the beautiful dining room. The hotel has had a major refurbishment and it looks very smart. Impressive bar area. Very pleasant staff - all together and really lovely afternoon.

As a family of 3 we decided to go for an "early bird" evening meal that had been recommended to us. The hotel has undergone a major refurbishment recently and looks clean, modern and welcoming on entering. We were greeted warmly be a young man behind the bar who busy serving another customer but said he would be with us shortly. Once served with drinks and given the early bird menu, which has to be ordered before 6.30 pm we were given the choice of 4 dishes, Lasagne, Fish & Chips, Burger and a Parmo. All served with accompaniments. Admittedly the choice is limited, but this is obviously why the cost is only £7.95. We were not disappointed with any dish, my partners fish and chips were perfectly adequate and nicely presented with a dish of mushy peas and tartar sauce on the side. Our "Parmos" were delicious accompanied by chunky chips, coleslaw and salad. I noticed a fellow diner eating the Burger, which also looked lovely and a more than adequate portion. The drinks prices are typical hotel prices, but this is only to be expected. All in all a pleasant evening in pleasant surroundings with a pleasant young man serving us. We will return.

I stayed at the Croft whilst attending a wedding. I booked fur rooms for my family & I. The check in time is officially 14:30 but we had asked if rooms could be ready to change in for the 15:00 wedding start. Unfortunately only my room as ready, the other three, plus our friends that travelled with us for the wedding did not have a room available until after the wedding started, so 9 of us ended up using one room to change for the wedding .... chaos. Check out is 11:00, so disappointing that so many rooms were not available. The standard of the hotel is good. Clean and well maintained, recently had refurbishment. A small number of minor issues .... 1) Music for wedding - chaotic - used mine and two other phones for the wedding music - disappointing based on the bride and groom having called and sorted weeks before wedding apparently, but issues still seen on the day 2) very patchy fee wifi, both in terms of availability and the reliability when connected 3) Breakfast was not too clever - all the breakfasts supplied for two tables of us(6 people) had something wring with the order. Service for breakfast was a little slow, but probably due to a lot of people all turning up at the same time. However, breakfast when sorted was good and tasty! 4) The rooms have no air con - they are very very hot - it was a hot two days but little in way of opening for windows as our room was on ground floor - but need air con fitting - ruined getting ready for wedding and hardly slept as too hot - the heat hit you as you entered room. Our ground floor room was at road side, by a sharp bend in road by a bridge, with the small windows open for the heat, a very noisy room due to traffic and people standing in street outside room. Ask for a high room, out of sun! One member of staff, Emma, was particularly good to interact with!

Thank you for your review of our hotel marshga, I am sorry to hear that all of your rooms weren't ready however we are a busy hotel and this can be the case when our check out is 11am and check in is 2.30pm. I cannot comment on the wedding music but can assure you that the issue was not the hotels however we are changing our practises on this to make it easier in the future. With regards to our WIFI I can only apologize and assure you that we are looking into that to ensure it doesn't become a constant issue. I am very glad to hear that you enjoyed your breakfast and it can be hectic sometimes like you say if everyone comes down at once. I will feed your comments regarding room heating to our head office to see if there is anything that can be done about this moving forward however. Friendly and helpful host, lovely food (all home made - yum!) and clean comfortable room with a very smart bathroom. Our room overlooked the front of the hotel but we were not disturbed in any way during the night. The wi fi signal was good, as were the parking facilities.

Stayed here for two nights for my son's wedding. The room was good although we had to close the curtains as the room was near the ,front door where smokers stood and the windows were large but did have nets. Service/food in restaurant was poor. 1. Had smoked salmon pate for starters - it didn't taste of much. 2. My wife's tagliatelli was cold in the middle and served on a cold plate. The portion of pasta was far too big - not always a bad thing. My baked cod was cooked very well but the sauce , hollandaise I think but it didn't taste of much as was very thin. We didn't try the sweets. 3. On the second day, my wife ordered a poached egg, She didn't eat it as the white was just cooked but the yolk was not and still had clear white around it. They come like that the waitress said. At 2.30pm on returning from the wedding, our room had not been serviced. Later we returned but toiletries had not all been replaced and the water had not been replaced in the fridge. 4. Bought a pint of John Smiths from bar in function room during evening wedding party. It was foul and tasted mouldy. After trying some, & agreeing, the waitress did at least go to the main bar and get a replacement. 5. Breakfast on Sunday morning was a farce. We came down at 9.10. After a little wait whilst a table was cleaned & prepared, I tried ordering the smoked haddock. It would be at least 30minutes as chef was very busy. After agreeing to wait I asked for it not to come with a poached egg or hollandaise sauce - not possible! It comes with it. At this point I thought I would cut my losses and just have bacon, egg & mushroom. At 10.20 the hot breakfast arrived!! Of course the toast which had arrived at about 9.30 was cold and getting soft by now. At one point during breakfast the waitress was running through the restaurant to get things - she seemed to be the only one on for much of the time.

Thank you for your interesting review and observations during your stay here if I may I will address them in the order you have put them. The room you were in is a fair way from the front door and we did experience a lot of smokers at the wedding so I can only apologise for the smokers outside at the front of the hotel unfortunately sometimes smokers do walk along the front of the hotel whilst smoking. 1 Salmon Pate is homemade fresh and taste is a personal thing. 2 If your pasta was cold I am surprised you did not return the dish when the staff did a check back on your meal as this is cooked to order fresh 3The baked cod has no Hollandaise sauce served with it and is not offered or mentioned on the menu but is served with a white wine and leek sauce 4 When you returned from the wedding I personally recut your room key as it had failed to open the door and at that point I apologised that the girls had not yet finished servicing the rooms and that yours would be done with in the half hour you actually said at that point that this was fine and not to worry as you were aware how busy the hotel was due to the amount of early check-ins that your party requested. Water is offered complimentary upon your arrival as per the Best Western Plus requirement and we do not refill the fridge however had you asked at reception the girls would have got you some likewise with the toiletries they are complimentary on arrival and we would have been happy to provide you with additional toiletries from reception. 5 The John Smiths was an issue that night and as such we replaced the barrel in the bar 6 I apologise that Sunday breakfast was in your words a farce but when a large group of people arrive all at the same time it can be difficult to serve everybody straight away and this did prove testing. I will investigate further your comments about the Smoked Haddock as I am very surprised and indeed upset that this was said to you as not possible. I feel that this not something our staff would say and we do pride ourselves on our excellent breakfasts. I am sorry you feel we are not a Best Western Plus and that we let you down but please be assured we take all observations and comments seriously and I thank you for your review and will continue with the team to improve and get better from your comments.

Stayed here overnight on the way back home from Scotland. Lovely hotel with character. Room was very nice and well decorated. Food in restaurant was excellent and very good value for money. Would stay here again if in the area.

I had my 80th Birthday Party here a week ago. It is over two years ago since I was last here and I have to say things are not as good as they were then.. The meal was ok. Chicken,and Pork were fine but the Beef was tough and some of my guests left theirs. The waiter acted as though he would rather have been somewhere else. I believe there was a staffing problem but his attitude should not have been picked up by the guests, There was also a problem with the Wifi which was very weak. When I came to settling the bill I was charged extra for the room for which I was originally told was included in the price of the meal and also charged for an extra guest.. These mistakes however were rectified when pointed out.. There was also a problem when trying to pay with my credit card and the final amount was not taken off my card until two days later. I have had some very happy memories of the Croft but sadly this was not one of them/

The Croft House Hotel has just completed a complete refurbishment of the hotel rooms and restaurant. The hotel is definitely great value for money and the food was very good and well presented. I would like to make a special mention of Dyanne who served breakfast in the restaurant and was very cheerful, friendly and helpful. Well worth a stay if you are visiting the Darlington area.

We had the most wonderful afternoon tea today for myself my partner and our 4 year old daughter. The food was absolutely fantastic and the service was impeccable. The lady who was on the bar and serving us was wonderful and a credit to the hotel. She made such a fuss of our little girl printed off some Disney colouring sheets and let her go and pick our seats out of the whole hotel. It made our visit perfect. I booked this hotel based on price as it was quite reasonable. The hotel is in a quiet village right next to the river with lovely walks and a great historical church and graveyard. If you want a quiet relaxing break this hotel is perfect for it. It has just been refurbished to a very high standard which cost 2 million which I found out after asking the receptionist. Everything was very nice but I did not eat at the hotel but imagine that would be very good as other guests were very pleased. Staff were all very friendly and professional.

My wife and I enjoyed a lovely stay at The Croft Hotel, we stayed over the Easter week end and into the next couple of days The Staff couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming, genuinely friendly which is always a hallmark of folk in the North East, we find. Must mention the fine ladies who kept our room, No 19, spotlessly clean ,Sandra, Maria and Becky, always cheerful and with smiles on their faces and nothing was too much trouble for them. It was obvious that they took a pride in the Hotel and cared for it's reputation, the original building going way back into the early 1800s when it was a famous Victorian Spa Resort. interesting vintage photos adorn the Hallway walls reminding visitors of its glorious earlier days. Diane and Emma served the lovely breakfasts in the nicely appointed breakfast room, again they were always with good cheer and a smile, the full English, plus other cooked choices available, were nicely presented and cooked to perfection. Also an array of fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereals, fruit juice etc. toast/marmalade, tea and coffee. The young lady and gentleman, in the evening dining room were also most friendly and efficient, again delivering both tasty and generous sized portions from the menu. The Hotel has recently been completely renovated to a high standard and is situated in an idyllic spot next to the River Tees and picturesque and ancient Church of St Peter's, Croft on Tees. Our nicely appointed en- suite bedroom was up the grand staircase along the newly refurbished hallway, the room and en-suite hardly looked as if they had been used, though I guess partly down to the efficiency of the staff. A mini fridge, security safe, large comfy bed, wardrobe and dressing table/chair also, a comfortable armchair. nice lighting, with plush curtains to the window and window seat. Good and reasonably powerful shower with overhead fixed spray, or separate flexi hose. Lovely plush white towels which were changed as required. I believe dressing gowns are available by request at no extra charge? but check for yourselves on this. I believe there are several larger rooms on the ground floor where there is also a lovely bridal suite. Talking of which, on looking further around the Hotel we discovered 2 huge newly appointed but atmospheric function rooms which would be perfect for Weddings, corporate events etc. etc. Good and convenient car park to the Hotel rear with ramped entrance . Thank You to all at ,The Croft Hotel, we would love to return again. And, more than likely will.

First let me get the negatives over with. The village of Croft is very small with not much in the way of facilities. Two pubs one of which is closed and a sports club by the river which still has it's Xmas lights up in April. None do food. The hotel is bounded on one side by a road then the river and on the other by the car park, so no outside facilities. There is a river walk easily accessed adjacent to the stone bridge over the river Tees. Thank heaven the hotel itself is far better. Recently refurbished with a distinct 1960's retro feel to the public spaces, bistro, bar, restaurant and public seating areas. The rooms quite spacious, very clean with a good sized shower room, seating area and flat screen tv on a swivel at the bottom of the bed so it can be viewed either from the bed (large, comfortable double) or seating area. Adequate wardrobe space. As all rooms are either overlooking the car park or road we were pleased with the double glazing and blackout curtains with pelmet which kept the room nice and quiet and stopped an early disturbance from road noise or excess light. As there appears to be nowhere else within the village to eat it was just as well the hotel dining facilities are really good. We took lunch in the bistro and had breakfast. Allow time as meals are cooked to order. The breakfast in particular was quite outstanding. Nothing on hot plates and impeccable service. A tip. If you feel under time constraint order the cooked element of your breakfast before helping yourself to the cold elements, as I said it is cooked to order. Placed only a hop skip and a jump from Darlington and with easy access from both the A68 and the A1M, the hotel is never the less on the edge of some really attractive countryside. Would we stay again? A resounding yes

We had used this hotel many times in the past and were so pleased with the service we booked them for our Golden Wedding celebration ----But were let down badly -----the buffet food was nothing like what we ordered, the room was not the room agreed on even though it was agreed and discussed at several meetings----after several e.mails a refund settlement was agreed, but the annoying part in all this it was our once in a lifetime celebration , I was also accused of making a comment about the food and the chef which was a total lie and I asked for an apology but have not had one---in fact if I had been given the apology by the person that accused me I would not be writing this review------they got things wrong but until I insisted and proved my case they were not prepared to admit fault------not happy at all----apart from the fact we actually did have a good night with our friends and family

I do feel that your comments are some what unfair and as always there are two sides to every story but I do feel that it is worth stating for the record that we actually only got 2 dishes wrong on the buffet and as agreed this is unacceptable and we have apologised many times for this. I am glad we were able to agree on a refund settlement that was acceptable to you and your wife despite the differences claimed. I am glad to note that despite this you did actually have a good night at the hotel with your friends and family.

mothers day lunch booked table for two in restaurant,could not fault any of the three courses we had two different starters,and two different sweets,same main course all cooked to perfection.congrats to the chef .the staff were really pleasant and a good atmosphere was created all round. will definitely return.

A very comfortable hotel which has obviously just been renovated to a high standard. We stayed in a suite which overlooked the bridge and was a very nice room with an excellent bathroom. Good value and a lovely location.

Drove past this gem of a hotel by mistake so popped in to enquire vacancies. My room was clean, bright and easy on the eye, with the décor all blending in. The bed was comfortable and the shower was very good. Went to the restaurant and had a very well prepared, uncomplicated meal followed by a very good home made sweet. The staff were very friendly throughout my stay. Breakfast was very good with a very varied menu and the service was good. All the products I ate were cooked and presented well. I will be staying there again when I visit the Darlington area.

The place was fully booked and rightly so....the food was amazing, we had the Sunday lunch which was fantastic, but others were having afternoon teas for which we will make a return trip. Great job and many happy faces, the prices have remained sensible as well.

As a vegetarian I could only order tuna sandwiches on brown bread as there was no vegetarian option on the sandwich menu. The bread was the most basic cheap 'plastic' bread. The spread was not butter and the filling was very dry. There was salad on the plate which was a handful of leaves I guess straight from a bag of leaves with a tiny amount of cucumber and pepper added. The service from Dyanne was excellent. She suggested that if I visit again then I should ring in advance and something more suitable for a vegetarian could be prepared.

We dine out for sunday lunch every week, after a recommendation the lady (dont know her name) chef from sadberge had moved here we give it a try, fantastic, superb value, this is one of the best sunday lunches in the area and we have paid 16.95 elsewhere for similar quality, and nowhere has gravy like this....hang on to that chef croft... we will be back.

lovely little hotel with nice clean recently refurbished rooms, all the staff are excellent and very friendly, and the food is superb, breakfast is also freshly cooked to order, gem of a hotel would definitely recommend to friends and family

The hotel has obviously been recently refurbished and has been done to a very high standard. Our room was spacious, bed lovely and comfortable and facilities great. The bathroom was excellent. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The only criticism I have is that on Sunday morning the dining room was quite full for breakfast and only one lady was serving so there was a long wait and the breakfast when it arrived was cold. Other than that I would highly recommend it.

The décor, the service and the food were absolutely first class. The sandwiches, cakes, scones and raspberry eton mess were mouth watering. We had several refills of the tea pot and nothing was too much bother. The staff were attentive, polite and professional. Thank you for a fabulous day out.

Called in for Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed - this was a great experience. Succulent beef. Great veg selection. Tasty. Filling. Perfect. Ian the assistant manager looked after us and made us feel very welcome. Will defiantly be back - of that there is NO DOUBT. Outstanding.

Outstanding everytime we come here. I cannot fault this place. Its exceptionally clean, the staff are very friendly and there is a lovely log fire in the autumn/winter months. This is the best restaurant in Darlington. Also we visited for Sunday lunches last weekend and that was outstanding too! ??

Stayed here after a spa day at Rockliffe Hall it's a 5 mins drive so ideal. Totally loved this place!!From the outside you would never expect to find such a gem. Staff were helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was fabulous with beautiful decor and comfy beds. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice.Highly recommended will definitely be back.

Rooms have recently been refurbished to a very high standard, large car park within/behind hotel, wifi was free and fast. I arrived late although restaurant closed no problem rustling-up sandwich and fries, breakfast was freshly cooked and a good breakfast table. Would recommend this hotel 100%

The whole building has been refurbished to a very high standard. The beds are extremely comfortable, the power showers in the new bathrooms lovely. Food was freshly prepared and beautifully presented. What a changed to be served a cooked breakfast rather than self serve from a hot plate counter. Added to that the staff without exception were very efficient and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely return.

Hotel has just been refurbished to a wonderful standard throughout, my room was again finished to a high standard bed was very comfortable. The food was also to a very high standard with some lovely dishes very well cooked at reasonable prices breakfast was included for £85 .00 isn't a bad price at all, again the breakfast was good a choice of both continental and specific orders for a full cooked English breakfast all of the staff that I spoke to were all very polite well mannered and tentative. Turned my health and safety academy in to a very pleasurable experience as I was very reluctant to travel. Regards Karl

Stayed at this hotel on Thursday 20th October 2016 for one night. Got to hotel about 10.30 after a 4 hour journey. Very tired. Check in was very efficient and friendly. Parking at the front and rear of hotel. On arrival I did not have very high expectations as this outside is very much 'country pub'. But how wrong can you be. This has gone through a major refurb and it is fantastic. The standard double room was large and ultra modern. Fantastic bathroom with superb shower - all white and gleaming with grey tiles - something you'd like in your own home. Bed was huge and ever so comfortable. Tea and coffee making facilities, great hairdryer and great tv. Only downside was noise. We were in room 9 which looks out onto the road (very close). Although there has been major refurbishment throughout hotel they have kept original sash windows. No double glazing and our window had a hole in it. Was a bit of noise at night but far more in the early morning. Such a shame as with all money spent changing the windows would have made the hotel perfect. Breakfast was fabulous. Plenty of choice and very friendly and efficient service. We will definitely be staying at a Best Western Plus again if they are as good - just need to check the double glazing!

We are very happy that we exceeded your expectation so much - we are all very proud of The Croft now it has gone through its £1.3M refurbishment and we are delighted that you loved it so much. I'm sorry you found the room to be a little noisy but am unaware of any rooms which have (or indeed have had) a hole in the window (!!!) but I will look into that as it definitely shouldn't be the case!! With regards to any double glazing - I do agree with you that in some rooms it would have been an asset, but, it is a Grade 2 listed building and we have been prohibited from fitting them in most of the rooms. However, we have had very heavy curtains made, and, we do not normally get any complaints about noise at all so I can only assume it was something to do with the hole? I am so sorry if you did find it a bit noisy but are delighted that overall you enjoyed your stay with us so much. A lovely hotel is a great location and just perfect for where I needed to be. Clare at the front desk was really polite and helpful with directions and local information. I would most certainly stay here again without a doubt.

Lovely hotel. Newly refurbished and very tastefully done. Our room was huge and very well kept. Breakfast was great. Sadly there was only one lady serving and she could have been slightly more pleasant but this did not put us off enjoying our overnight stay. Highly recommended

Visited The Croft on Saturday evening, the recent refurbishment gives the place the wow factor. Staff were friendly and we were very well looked after. We choose the pork ribs and the supreme of chicken, both couldn't be faulted and the sauce on the ribs really complimented the dish. We had dessert, you could tell they were both homemade and again, delicious, would definitely recommend.

We stayed two nights for a family party. The room we had (room 2) had recently been refurbished- you could still smell the gloss. lovely room over looking the church and bridge. Peaceful place. Breakfast can either make or break a hotel- but this was organised and plentiful. You could order what you wanted from the list of full English -we asked for crispy bacon and got this. The lady serving breakfast was good and efficient. We were late coming back to the hotel on both nights and we rang the bell- Terry the night porter was friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and served us drinks on our second night with our relatives. We would recommend and will be back to stay when visiting relatives again. Thank you

Stayed at the Croft Hotel while visiting relatives. Place has undergone a refurbishment since we last visited and I must say that it's been improved substantially. The room was large, clean and modern. Bathroom was especially nice. Staff were pleasant and helpful. From reception staff, the night Porter (opened the bar when we returned late) and even the cleaning staff smiled and said good morning. Breakfast was plentiful although the produce could have been of a higher standard. The decor is modern and bright if not a little OTT with the glitz. Overall, a pleasant stay and I would not hesitate in booking again next time we are in the area.

Stayed here for one night and the hotel and staff are so warming and helpful. Will def go back again. Food is great and the rooms are really nice and cosy. Even though its on a main road you cant hear any traffic and had a great night sleep

My new go to place in the area, very friendly, good room with proper shower, lovely dinner and scrambled egg just as I like it. Can't fault it. Well apart from the room wake up alarm going off at 6am, but I blame the previous guest not the hotel for that ??

Very tastefully refurbished to a high standard. Great place to stay if travelling north, since near A1. Very friendly staff.Room was quite small, but very comfortable.Good breakfast, albeit very busy, so quite a wait.

From when we arrived all the staff were very helpful and friendly. Room had been refurbished and so had bathroom, both were large and airy with a lovely seating area. Good food but slightly limited for choice. Will look forward to a return visit as plenty to do in area. Thank you to all.

I wasn't looking forward to staying at the Croft Hotel but what a superb and pleasant surprise. Whoever has spent fortunes on doing the old place up deserves much credit. It is stunning. Never thought I'd say that. Rooms are lovely, while there's a real vibe about the place. Plus you'll find it difficult to beat the breakfast. Where the old staff used to be surly and couldn't be bothered, they are now friendly, helpful and offer great service. The General Manager also deserves much credit for his new team. He even showed us around the newly refurbished ballroom clearly because he is proud of it. He should be. I hope the local clientele are also pleased to have such a fine venue on their doorstep rather than a white elephant as before. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK AND WELL DONE.

Absolutely superb Sunday lunch in beautiful (and recently refurbished) surroundings. Efficient and friendly service and all for £9.95 - can't go wrong and would thoroughly recommend although probably better to book as I went on spec and only just managed to get in!!

I've stayed loads of times for work. Its recently had a major refit, and the rooms are now bright and very modern, but I must admit, I really liked the old decor. but that's just me !! The food in restaurant is very good. Breakfast very good. Staff very helpful. its in a lovely village location, only 10 minutes drive from Darlington, I always try to stay here if I'm working in Darlington
