« Good for the price »

We stayed for 1 night and we found it pretty good for the price. The plus points were; very spacious, lovely and quiet, free parking, handy for cbd, and good customer service. The negatives were it wasn't the cleanest place with a few stray hairs in the bathroom and on the bed, our heater didn't work and we didn't have a plug for the bath.

« Nice friendly staff great size room & beds... »

We went to Christchurch on a couples weekend away. We were well looked after by the team at Fino Hotel & Suites. Room was great view from balcony was great the King beds & ensuite in both rooms were fantastic. We did not want to leave. To top things off I left my laptop power cord behind it was sent to me within two days no charge. Thanks Team ??

    « Lots of room »

Spacious rooms with lots of amenities for families. Nice and clean which is critical. Only disappointment was that the restaurant that was advertised wasn't open. Front desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful as well.

    « An excellent stay »

Stayed here for 2 nights with family. This was an excellent choice. A very spacious 2 bedroom suite with a complete kitchen This was almost like our home and not a hotel room! And not too expensive too. We had requested for an early check-in and the staff did help us out with that. The hotel is about 15 minutes walk to the main city center and is located in a not too busy area. Car rental locations (Avis, Budget, Apex) is a 5 minute walk away. A small market with basic groceries is close by. Need to drive for bigger chain supermarkets. A few restaurants are close by too. Parking is good on the second level of the hotel, but the approach ramp is a little tight. Be careful in the turns on the ramp. Would recommend this place without any hesitation.

    « Convenient Comfort! »

Couldn't ask for more. Has everything you need just a few minutes walk away, including car rentals! Budget, Avis, Hertz etc. just 5 mins walk away which was so handy and saved a trip up near the airport!

    « Big Suite »

Helpful and friendly reception staff. 2 bedroom suite was spacious and well appointed. Kitchen area and bathroom tired. Housekeeping took towels and forgot to replace, could have been better on whole. Disappointing restaurant not open every day.. Central position for getting around. Interesting hotel with central fountain and communal areas to each apartment.

« Good location, well appointed apartment, welcoming staff. »

We stayed one night at this apartment as the first night of a two week South Island tour. THE GOOD: We had a two bedroom apartment which was very spacious and well appointed. The room was a bit dated but clean and comfortable. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Location was great for exploring Christchurch on foot. NOT SO GOOD: Christchurch itself is heavily under construction so the views and noise from surrounding building works are pretty average. Immediately upon arrival we lost power to the building for about an hour and a half. Not that the hotel could do much about that but sitting in a dark room after a long flight was a bit wearing. We had to walk downstairs several times to get updates on when the electricity would be back on (we were on the top floor and the elevators were out of action so we were wandering up and down dim stairwells and fire escapes). OVERALL: A pretty good option if you want a spacious apartment at a reasonable price in the city centre. Two bedroom rooms are very good for families and groups. Kitchen facilities are excellent if you want to self cater. Parking is available if you have a vehicle.

« One night stay in Christchurch »

We stayed here on our first night in New Zealand before setting off on a driving tour.We took the airport shuttle bus from the airport to the hotel and were dropped at the door, much cheaper than a taxi and just as convenient. We had a 2 bedroomed apartment which was very spacious and extremely well equipped, even had a washing machine. The apartment was clean and very well located close to the town centre. We collected a rental car from Apex on the morning of our departure and the hotel is only a short walk from the rental office. We did not eat here so cannot comment on the food, we bought some breakfast essentials from town and had breakfast in the apartment using the well equipped kitchen. The staff were pleasant and efficient with only a slight hiccup when a Japanese couple were mistakenly given a key to our room and wandered in to the surprise of both of us, this problem was soon sorted !

    « Lovely appartment »

We had a two bedroom apartments on floor 3, this was on the floor with a water feature on it which surrounds the rooms. Each room could either be twins or made into a King room, both bedrooms have direct access into the shared bathroom, which was nice. Bathrobes and safe in the wardrobe. The kitchen area and living area was clean and tidy, modern and has a washing/drying machine in a cupboard. There was a balcony however the third floor did not have a view. The unit was well kept throughout, daily servicing seemed like the beds were made, towles changed and bathrooms cleaned. The unit was tidied up but not vacuumed each day but that was fine. Niggles would be that the TV only has freeview. These days there is no excuse to not have full skytv, especially at the price paid and also that the Breakfast was rather average and if staying again I would not include it in the rate. It wasn't that the food was bad but it was empty each time we visted and had to constantly ask for things to be filled. The resturant staff were friendly though. In all, i wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

« Definitely recommended for your stay in Christchurch. »

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 3 days and nights. We were very satisfied with the room - it was both spacious very comfortable with great views from the large window. We found the breakfast excellent value for money. All of the staff are to be commended - they were both friendly and helpful. We have no complaints at all with this hotel and would recommend it without hesitation. Worth mentioning is special thanks to Chloe for all her help, and all the best to Brenda with her forthcoming 'event'. Thankyou all.

    « Group »

Stayed 1 week. The apartments are ok size and had a laundry in room which was a bonus. Daily servicing was really just a change of towels and pull the bed up. Would like to see a bit more detail to cleaning, dead flies that were in room when we arrived still there a week later and bathroom tiles could do with a good scrub. Used the small restaurant a couple of times for breakfast but quite slow service.

    « Location is excellent. »

Short walk to Victoria Park, Cathedral Square, Earthquake City Exhibition. Good breakfast selection and the hot food was hot, not warm. Bed was comfortable and the room was a good size, with 2 douvle bedrooms.

    « Nice apartment.... »

We arrived quite late because of road conditions but well welcomed nicely by reception and efficiently checked in. The apartment was large and well equipped. Not a great view but was well located for everything in the Centre of the city within walking distance. Parking was secure and free. Recommended.

« Good Value for Money »

Overall - Would stay here again! Beware that hotel surroundings have been impacted by the 2013 earthquake moderately. Service: - Only stayed here for 3 nights, however only saw 1 receptionist throughout which slowed the pace of our enquiries. However, the young asian man was very happy to help and delivered great service. The hotel should put on more staff at the reception area. Location: - On the edge of the main Christchurch square, however good walking distance to restaurants and casino (under 800 metres). The surroundings and car park looked dodgy, especially after a bit of rubble remaining after the earthquake. - Walking distance to Quake Museum and the Canal (under 600 metres), however over 1.1km to get into the main town centre. - Found it difficult to get shopping essentials near by. Room: - Stayed in the Deluxe Suite for 3 nights - Very spacious and provided all the facilities needed - Toilets/showers were a bit tiny and oddly located in the room - Clean and spotless room Wifi: - Fast, free and consistent

    « Spacious 2 bedroom with livingroom & kitchen »

Excellent amenities with a full kitchen well-equipped with functioning appliances and stove. So very spacious for 4 people. Very clean throuhout. With a washer and dryer in the unit, it was good to know that we can do laundry without having to insert coins and that we do not need to leave the unit/place to go to a separate laundry room. Comfortable beds & crisp bed linens and towels. Adequate supply of toiletries. WiFi is the best, unlimited Gigabytes and super fast! Quiet. Centrally located. The staff was helpful and customer-focused ( special thanks to the evening/night shift staff; Frewin and Krishnan (spelling?). Highly recommended for its excellent service. We request that it maintains such service.

« Spacious rooms but a few things need tweaking »

Our overall impression was that this could be a very good mid-range hotel but they have a few kinks to iron out. On the afternoon we arrived there seemed to be only one staff member on site, so often the front desk and phone were unattended because the staff member had to leave the desk to help guests. We booked a 1brm suite and were told that was what we had, but the room had 2 double bedrooms so we were a bit confused by that and could have shared the room with friends if we'd known. The hotel has been refurbished and in most aspects this is good but some things just didn't work that well (e.g. the bathroom fan and heater were very noisy, there was no where to hang up used towels, and the main bedrooms back on to the atrium so there's noise at night as people come and go). Housekeeping was a bit patchy. Very large living area and good TV facilities. Very well equipped kitchen with stovetop, fridge/freezer, washing machine (no dishwasher), pots and pans etc. Free parking in the building was very convenient and the wifi was free and fast. Buffet breakfast was fine.

« Average Best Western hotel in Christchurch »

We stayed here recently for 3 nights during our trip go the South island and were somewhat disappointed with the room. The service on check in was excellent with instructions given on parking and information on where to eat out from reception staff. Unfortunately the room we were given was not great as one of the rooms backed on to the atrium and was very dark and airless. We were given fans to help with the heat in the room as no air con was on during our stay. The balcony was very small and did not offer much of a view as over the rear car park. Would not return here as there are better hotel options closer to the centre.

    5
    « Spacy suite »

A very friendly and helpfull staff. Excellent equipped spacy suite with comfortable chairs and couches. Good bed and bathroom facilities. Although the restaurant was closed the hotel is situated in the centre of Christchurch near Victoria road with plenty good restaurants. A good place to stay in CGCH.

    4
« Good location, comfortable modern suites »

We had a two bedroom suite, and liked the bathroom between the bedrooms - more privacy. Pleasant modern decor, convenient location for restaurants near casino. If planning to stay a long time or self cater, please note the cooking facilities were limited (no oven, few pots or utensils). Only main problem was the car park, which was not under the hotel but in the adjacent vacant block. Carpark had lots of debris and weeds, and it was unclear where we were permitted to park due to large number of "reserved" spots near wall. On site restaurant seemed never to be open in evenings and only opened one morning out of the three we were there. On site reception staff meant never any problem with loud parties in rooms.

« Friendly staff and walking distance to City center »

We stayed a few nights here In a 2 bedroom apartment for 230 nz$ Which was good- it is a big spacious apartment with a small balcony and to queen size beds. The shower was a bit old and dated Anders the washing machine combo with tumble drier is not great if you have a lot of laundry - drier takes ages! Balcony furniture is a bit rusty so need an upgrade. Parking was super convenient and staff were really helpful - I would stay again for sure. Walking distance to the cathedral and botanical garden and good restaurants.

    3
« Good average and central hotel »

Good hotel in walking distance from all the sights in the city center. Is kind of placed in the middle of a construction site as so many other things in Christchurch after the earth quake so the location is not very interesting, but the location close to the city center makes up for it and you don't hear the noise from the construction sites. The rooms are fine and very spacious, bathroom and kitchen were quite dated and could use a brush up. Breakfast is nothing special but an ok standard. If you just need a good average place to stay in central Christchurch, this Fino is a good choice.

    2
    « Washer/dryer in room was a joke »

I booked this hotel because I was at a point in a long trip when I needed to do at least 3 loads of laundry. The washer/dryer is a single unit. It took 90 minutes to wash a load, then the same machine was the dryer, which also took forever to dry my clothes. I ended up having to either stay up all night to do my laundry or drape wet clothes all over the unit to air dry over night. Do not stay here if laundry is an issue for you.

It was quite a good experience. Rooms were quite spacious and clean. The view from the hotel is awesome . Good hospitality and facilities. Staff were very helpful. Overall it was amazing experience...

    « Awesome stay »

Comfortable stay, spacious room.....staff member were so professional and convenient location to all the attractions.....overall warm, spacious and had a delightful stay.....with good hospitality and it was a pleasant stay in general

« Very large rooms in well situated hotel »

Our room was quite large and included a kitchen. There were no drawers to unpack things , but there was a large closet to hang clothes. There was a garage to park the car. Only one trash can in the suite, which seemed odd for such a large room. Also had a wager / dryer in e room. Our tv did not work, but staff was very attentive in trying to fix it.. The location was convenient for walking to the beautiful botanical gardens.

    4
« Spacious, modern and clean. »

Our room was clean, spacious, well equipped with everything you need in a serviced apartment. Decent value, good location. I would stay here again. My only disappointment is when we checked into the hotel the person at reception insisted we needed to pay the full room cost, when we had paid 100% of the cost six months ago st the time of booking. The receptionist insisted we had to pay, even though I showed our booking confirmation which proved we had paid. He never apologised, just went very quite. Otherwise, a good experiance and I will stay here again.

    4
« Fairly standard hotel, but massive penthouse apartment »

Stayed here just for the one night, in the penthouse 2BR apartment. The apartment itself was huge, large enough for a decent sized family and the balconies offered a great view of the surrounding area. Breakfast was ok, nothing flash, but was included in the room rate. Staff were friendly. Parking is a bit of a pain, it's outside in a vacant parking lot next door. For most of the things to see and do in CHCH, it's a little bit of a walk but I'd probably stay there again.

    4
« Some minor comments on room conditions »

Overall a nice hotel, will recommend. Some comments on the hotel is our room came with a large balcony but it is not cleaned at all. Bedrooms are not air conditioned, only the living room. There is a natural skylight in the master bedroom which we did not fancy as our sleep are disturbed when the sun rises early in the morning.

    1
    « Terrible ! »

    1. Terrible Service. I was constantly calling room service for complements like toilet paper, milk, coffee, biscuits etc...(doing their job for them ?) 2. Very noisy rooms from the echo's outside due to the configuration of the building. 3. The flooring carpet is all tethered.(trip Hazard) 4. Way over priced for what you would expect for a NZ hotel. 5. Food is substandard & extremely long wait for food. (Cold upon arrival) 6. We kiwis wish to maintain a high standard in our country; this hotel is very substandard to what we expect for this beautiful country of ours ! 7. I will not be wasting my time staying here in the future. (Signed : Very experienced world kiwi traveler)

« Good hotel and good location »

We arrived off our flight after midnight and were met at the door straight away. The check in process was thankfully friendly & swift which meant we were in our One Bedroom Deluxe Suite and into bed fairly quickly. The suite comprises a large living area with kitchen section and laundry facilities(which we used), a bathroom and a double bedroom. The bedroom was fairly small with a large wardrobe that had a sliding door that didn't slide all that easily. No problem with that because the lounge area had plenty of room and even a small balcony. The bathroom had a shower over the bath and was clean & tidy. The hotel is located a very short distance from the casino if that's what you fancy but I preferred to stroll into the downtown area just a few minutes away. I picked up a rental car during our stay from the joint facility just a block away. Car parking at the hotel was free. The hotel itself exceeded our expectations but the on site restaurant went even further. Breakfast, either cooked or continental, is available at a reasonable price but the dinner we had one night was exceptional. The food was tasty and the portions were huge. Christchurch is still undergoing a lot of redevelopment and there are new hotels springing up but I'd recommend the Fino to anyone travelling there.

    4
« Good spacious suite with all the amenities »

Was quite fortunate to be upgraded from family to penthouse suite - frankly too much space for 4 people but appreciated it. Lady who attended to us at the reception was very friendly and gave us some recommendations for Christchurch. Suite was clean overall though some parts look a bit worse for wear like the paint in the toilet and the bar stools with dirt marks. Ensuite toilets for both rooms were great as were the massive king beds - clean and comfortable. Fast internet. Dishwasher was a little weird - needed the tablets but they provided only the liquid sachets. Interior looked like the chrome was coming off or something. Location is pretty good, 15 mins walk from the botanic gardens and museum.

    4
    « Excellent. »

We stayed in a group. All rooms are suite room, having drawing room and bedroom, all well furnished.. Also have kitchenette and washing machine. We stayed for 2 nights. Staff very co-operative. Located centrally, near to Casino. WIFI is free and very good. Breakfast is OK, if you are pure veg. MUST STAY hotel.

    5
« Lovely place to stay »

Lovely apartment, lots of room, self contained which included a washing machine/dryer (which we used because we had a toddler). The beds were the most comfortable I've ever slept on and those pillows - I so want to know where they bought them. I'm sure its why I slept so well even with children sneaking into our bed in the middle of the night. I love this place and would stay here again if I need to come back to Christchurch

    4
    « Good Hotel »

The Hotel located near Casino Hotel. Many restaurant near the Hotel, Thai, Italian, Japanese and so on. Wide and clean rooms. Good kitchen area. Convenient room Internet I satistyed and recommend of this hotel.

    « Simply excellent.. »

Must say a well organized suits with wonderful space and with good location..we stayed at corporate suit and was very big and with all the ammenties needed...suggested for families..its too much for the price paid ..

« Good property and helpful staff »

Stayed at their two bedroom apartment for 2 nights and I must say that it was worth the price. Nice interiors and we'll ventilated. The beds were very comfortable and all amenities that needed to be there were there. The living room was very spacious and well lit. They also have free parking available. The staff at reception were very helpful and polite. I would highly recommend this to all travellers going to Christchurch and no doubt if I visit the city again will then surely stay here. Located very close to the beautiful botanical gardens.

    5
    « friendly helpful staff »

Stayed in a two bedroom suite , neat spacious and clean, good city view and walking distance to the casino, friendly helpful staff, would definitely recommend to family and friends . very comfortable bed would definitely stay again.

« Great accommodation and great value »

We stayed twice at this hotel as part of our tour of the South Island. The hotel is in an excellent location and an easy walk to the city and the bars and cafes in Victoria Street. We booked a two bedroom apartment which was perfect for 3 people. The rooms are large, one had an extra large bed and the other 2 singles that made up into a double. Living room was extra large which included the well equipped kitchen. Service was good and we were able to park our car for no extra charge. The only issue that we need to mention is the cutlery had not been cleaned , we had to wash everything before we could use it. Also for an apartment it should have had a tin opener but they could not supply one so we had to take the tins to the restaurant for opening. All in all we enjoyed our stay and will probably stay there again when next in Christchurch.

    5
« Great room, great staff and convenient location. »

Stayed in a 2 bedroom suite with elderly father (80years old) and still managed to walk around easily to close touristy sights, e.g. Museum, cathedral square, botanical gardens and the casino. Most places are a 10-15 minute walk away (a bit longer with my elderly father). The hotel is just around the corner from the casino which is convenient as they have some good places to eat at. The hotel restaurant is good too. The rooms were clean and comfortable and would stay again. Very friendly and helpful staff.

  • 1
    « Disappointing »

Friendly, helpful staff but our stay was marred firstly by a room that stank of dampness. We were moved to another apartment where we discovered a mess left by a smuggled-in pet, in the wardrobe. We certainly would not book here again or recommend it to anyone else.

    5
« Excellent 2-bedroom unit, walking distance to the casino »

We stayed in a 2-bedroom unit, each rooms are fitted with a queen bed, neat and clean. Though the rooms are a bit compact to move around, the living room is spacious, and the kitchenette has most equipment needed for light meal preparations. It is very quiet, and the wifi speed is excellent, with unlimited data usage. The unit has a washing machine and a dryer, useful for travellers who need to do some laundry. The breakfast at the cafe in the hotel serves good western breakfast. Plenty of travel information is available at the reception area, and if you are keen on gambling, the casino is just within walking distance.

    5
    « Pleasant Stay »

Very spacious & good city view from our room. Receptionist was very helpful on arrival & the restaurant had good atmosphere with great service and stunning food. I had a lamb dish while my friend had Steak and dessert, both the dishes were tasty and well presented, and even the breakfast was great with good options.Over all a pleasant experience. We will be back.

    5
« Perfect place to stay »

We only stayed one night, will be back. Had a quiet dark room (more like apartment) with baby. Full kitchen and washer/dryer perfect for traveling family. Staff were a pleasure. Location excellent. Will be back.

    4
« Very comfortable and roomy hotel »

My room / suite was massive - two bedrooms and a large kitchen and lounge area. Really warm and quiet. The only downside is the limited breakfast - given the kitchen in the room it would be easier (and better) to make your own kitchen if staying for any length of time (my stay was overnight).

    5
    « Absolutely Fabulous »

Friendly, helpful staff throughout our stay. Gorgeously appointed suite and amenities, with great pressure in the shower and luxurious toiletries. Central location. Great food in their restaurant. Will definitely stay here again.

    4
« Very Comfortable Hotel for Families »

I had really a great time in the best western Plus Fino hotel & really I recommend every one to stay there.I booked one superior suite & it was really big & comfortable. The location of the hotel is around 20 min from the airport & The parking Available Inside & outside the hotel. All you need is always available & if not definitely you will get help from them. At the end I would like to thank every single staff in the hotel especially the receptionist ladies Miss Tayara & Miss Lourah. Thanks

    « Nice big apartment »

Liked this hotel, it was in a good location for getting around Christchurch. really comfortable beds and 2 bathrooms are great for a group. Some minor cleanliness issues, but other than that I would stay again.

    4
« Refurbished, clean and tidy »

Has been refurbished to a very good standard. Very clean and tidy. Check in and check out quick and easy. Central location. About 5 or 6 minutes to a number of good eating and drinking establishments.

    4
« Perfect but for cleaning staff »

Location was great, car parking easily assessable and secure, room warm, bed comfortable. Front desk staff were very friendly. Great internet. Couldn't fathom the washing machine, no instructions available. The cleanliness of the room was substandard. Vacuumed floors and clean towels daily were the only redeeming feature. But dishes never fully done, a lot were left or even one day put away dirty, bathrooms below par, rubbish bins not always emptied. Bed covered pulled and straightened only. The worse was a terrible drain smell that caused all my clothes to stink. When I got back home and opened my suitcase - phew! What a stink. Because of the recent earthquake damages to the city drainage, I didn't complain and I would still stay at this hotel for all the other reasons. But don't expect full room service.

Fantastic stay, the rooms were very spacious and clean, the areas were well thought out with plenty of ammenities. Brillant location, close to CBD and great restaurants, cafe's and eating locations. The staff were very professional. Great value for money.

    « Lovely Hotel »

Stayed two nights in a 2 bedroom room with my sister. Very impressed. Large rooms. Large kitchen with supplies available for purchase. Walking distance to town. Great staff. We had breakfast included which was basic continental. Staff always willing to help. Highly recommend.

    5
    « FINO = fine! »

This "squeaky-new" property near the CBD is a refreshing alternative in a city devastated by earthquake and still undergoing major repair and rebuild. The property resembles Embassy Suites in design around a central court/atrium; it has a restaurant on premises which offers 15% discount to guests.

    « Great visit »

Lovely clean hotel. Good facilities, lovely 2 bedroom spacious superior suite . An absolute pleasure . Reception were lovely, ordered room service steak and it wAs delicious. No hesitation in recommending to everyone for a Christchurch stay

« Best service and spacious room! »

I made a mistake by booking the wrong date through Agoda. Turned up at the hotel oblivious that I made a mistake but thhe two girls in the reception are go above and beyond to make it work and checked me in with no hassles at all. THANK YOU! I have a miniature poodle with me and I highly recommend it as a good place to stay when you have your pooch with you. Make sure you contact the hotel directly to confirm the booking :) Thanks girls for all the help to make our stay easy and enjoyable.

« We had to come up to Christchurch for a quick overnight visit, and had to bring our wee dog. »

We were so impressed with the welcome, the service, the apartment, the cost and the fact that we were able to have our wee dog with us, everything was exceptional! I put it up on my facebook along with photos and already everyone has been asking..... about where it was etc. happily recommended it to my anyone that asked! Thank you so much, we will sure be back!!

    « Comfy stay »

All facilities function well, friendly staff. Close to garden and museum. Room is also spacious and quiet, good sound insulation, very comfy stay. The only thing is the car park which seems to be still in "work in progress"however, it is minor.

    5
« Great Value for Money »

I stayed at Fino from June 13-18, 2017 with my family. I was surprised by how well-equipped the room was. Everything you needed to enjoy a home-cooked meal can be found in the kitchen. The room was spacious and the bed was super comfy. Great location - all major attractions are within walking distance. The front desk staff, Ding, was extremely resourceful and pleasant. I would definitely stay here again when I visit Christchurch again.

    « Stands out!! »

Arrived on a miserable cold wet day for first trip to Christchurch and greeted by the receptionist who appeared to want to be elsewhere, he may just have been having a bad day. He was polite but not that friendly. Hotel is located on the outskirts of the CBD and to be honest our first impression was that we'd made a mistake. It appeared to be the only building on the street still standing, surrounded by temporary car parks, no shops, restaurants, liquor stores or anything! We were early so dropped our bags and decided to explore. Most of Christchurch CBD has been demolished and upon first view it is a sad city, especially when you get to the cathedral. However, once you've been there for a few hours you start to become inspired and hopeful for the future. Most of the new buildings going up are fabulous, they are bold and exciting, no more grey concrete monolithic blocks, these buildings have angles and light, they require closer inspection to check you haven't missed anything. You start to explore side streets and look for the next revelation and by the end of the day you feel quite inspired by the change that is ongoing and the chance for a new city to emerge and I personally can't wait to come back and see what else has changed. So we return to the El Fino and opinion has changed, so has the receptionist. Instead of looking at the sole building on the street with sadness we thought "good for you, you survived all this trauma and whilst probably weren't the flashiest or fanciest hotel on this street originally, you are the one that survived. The new receptionist, the lovely Ying/ting (sorry forgot her name) was really helpful, polite and is a credit to your establishment, she organised taxis and airport shuttles without any fuss or issue and was always smiling. She appeared to be training someone and was setting a really good example of how most guests wish to be treated. The suite on the fifth floor was good. Tidy and relatively modern, new carpet although the fitting was a bit shoddy in places. Kitchen was good, some of the cupboard doors were a bit wobbly, again clean and tidy and nothing to grumble about, had all the things you would need and they were all in good order. Bedrooms were good, beds very comfortable. Bathrooms, the main bathroom looked like it had been renovated and was in great order, the ensuite was a bit dated, both clean and tidy. I had read the reviews about the hot water or lack of and was expecting grumbling from her indoors but I needn't have worried, they were perfect, lots of hot water and good pressure. Free wifi was excellent and I cannot understand why all hotels don't offer this. Flash new TV in the room and reasonably well sound proofed so didn't hear the building work over the road too much. We could hear the guests in the next room so wasn't totally sound proofed but wasn't an issue at all. The main atrium is attractive, with a fountain and open plan gardens within the building. Very Mediterranean and unusual to see such open space in a hotel these days where every inch seems to used for something, it did create a nice environment. Around the corner from the hotel is the casino (another flash building) and we found a shop which sells most of the basics you might need for a hotel stay. There is a great Irish bar (the Bog) further up the street about 10 mins walk from the hotel, ( a bit longer on the way back if you stay there too long, if you know what I mean!!) food is great and a friendly atmosphere. If you are prepared to walk a bit further we discovered a really good Indian, "the Himalayas", and a couple of Italians which looked good but we didn't visit, a Thai and Japanese restaurant were also close by so despite our first impression of a desolate street there was actually quite a variety to choose from if you are prepared to walk 10-20 mins around and about. Overall I would say not the flashiest hotel but good value for money and despite my first impressions which was probably more me being shocked by the surroundings rather than the hotel, I would recommend it as a good value place to stay for a family. Clean and tidy, reasonably well appointed and staff were great. Obviously as more and more infrastructure is built along the street the more convenient it will become but ironically will probably not stand out in the future. Thanks for having us and I would recommend to others.

    « The Platter Restaurant »

We made a reservation for a table in The Platter restaurant in the hotel for a special occasion. Turned up on time only to find our reservation had been given to another party. No reasonable explanation was given and all other tables were taken. We were asked to wait at the bar with the menus and a glass of water but as the food hadn't even been delivered to the other party, we decided to leave and go elsewhere. Terrible customer service and will definitely not be back.

« Many positives but cold showers are never ok »

This hotel is centrally located and spacious, clean and neat. We had a two bedroom suite for four nights. The WIFI is fantastic and undercover parking is also great. Unfortunately in mid-Christchurch-winter we had cold showers in both bathrooms for our whole stay. We were told that it took 1.5-2 hours to heat up up however even overnight our morning showers were luke warm at best. Additionally one of the bathrooms is so poorly laid out that the entire floor floods with every shower rendering that bathroom utterly unusable. I raised it with Reception on our first day and was told "we can't get a plumber on a Friday" and nothing more was done. It's a shame as it's a great place and good value for money and surely not that hard to fix if they wanted to.

    « Not a luxury hotel - but price/value was good »

The hotel is a rather typical "Best Western 80ies style"-Hotel. However rooms were very clean and large, with fully equipped kitchen, a spacious living room and two separate bedrooms. Breakfast is ok, but again (as for the rooms) price-value is good. Location is very central (but the setting is very special). Christchurch CBD however is strange - the whole area is basically a construction site... Everything in the CBD can easily be reached by foot.

« Deserves an extra star! »

Everything from the interior, design, reception, amenities, cleanliness and bed was superb. Please, please try the restaurant in the lobby - I had lamb cutlets cooked so divinely even Gordon Ramsay would have awarded them an honorary Michelin star! Due to an early start we ordered two breakfast boxes to go which were delicious and healthy. I would highly recommend this hotel.

    « Good apartment suite »

Stayed in a two bedroom two bathroom suite. Check in lady was very friendly and polite. Room was spacious. Both bedrooms were well sized. Bathroom is functional too. Kitchen was well equipped. Kettle was broken. Staff quickly brought over a brand new kettle. Very good service. Had one drama during the stay. Hot water ran out in the evening shower time. Called reception. Apparently each apartment has its own hot water system. For four people to stay there, this situation might happen. Reception quickly gave us a key to another vacant room to have shower. Didn't ask me to tidy up after finish. This is a really good service. They could have just asked us to wait for half an hour. Parking was free. Next day check out was in the morning. But we were still able to park our car until that afternoon. Location isn't bad. Walking distance to the botanic garden and cathedral square. Happy with the stay.

    « Good location - Good value »

We were two couples so this was great for the two double rooms, Only issues are the bathroom has a door to both bedrooms so you need to really like each other as little privacy. Second room has no external window so can get a little warm as you cannot control the temperature. These are really only minor issues to overcome. The two bedroom apartment was spacious, clean and comfortable. Hotel offers free wi-fi and parking off street. The hotels location offers very good access to the CBD. We would recommend this hotel if you were looking at a short stay in Christchurch.

    « Value for money »

Before our trip, I emailed several times with various queries. They responded within a few hours, sometimes outside of their office hours. We stayed in a 2 br apartment. The furnishings were new, and we especially loved the snazzy new washing machine/dryer. I also had a package left for me at the reception. They sent someone up to my room to hand it to me, which they didn't have to, but which they did. Thank you, Fino Hotels!

« More apartment than hotel »

This hotel was very good value with a delicious breakfast bar included in our room rate. The room itself was more of a suite with a spare bedroom, a small kitchen, and a handy utility room with a washer and dryer. Handy for travelling as by then we had a few things to launder. The location is very good, within easy walk of restaurants and bars. Staff were friendly. Hotel was a bit noisy because there was a lot of construction work going on across the street, which started quite early in the morning; no fault of the hotel but be aware. Free parking under the hotel in car park. Decor a little bit dated, an atrium in the center--very 80's, but clean and room decor was up to date.

    « Good, but...... »

Overall a great stay at the Fino Hotel. Easy to find, and helpful attentive service at the front desk. Plenty of parking underneath, access by swipe card. Room was on the sixth floor. Cool atrium in the centre with a large water feature. Our apartment had 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and a large kitchen and lounge. Nice views from the balcony out over the city towards the Southern Alps. Kitchen was lacking in certain bits and pieces, only 2 mugs! Also 4 pottles of UHT milk was not really enough. Few marks and stuff on the walls that could do with some attention, but pretty easy to look past. Playstation 4 so we could watch DVDs. Only freeview TV with 2 addition SKY channels. Beds were super comfortable, with good quality linen. Didn't hear any building or traffic noise. Biggest gripe of all however was the shower. It was terrible!!!!!! Had it at the hottest it could go, and it was warm at best! And the pressure was pathetic!. Was really really disappointing. Felt colder getting out of the shower then i did hoping in. Does need to be addressed, but overall a great place to spend the night.

    « Good apartment hotel »

We stayed two nights at different times during or visit to New Zealand. The hotel is very well located for access to the centre of town. The rooms are actually suites, with two bedrooms, one of which they lock up if it is only double occupancy. The suite is modern, well furnished, with a large living room and kitchen. The beds are comfortable. There is usually one person at reception and we found them helpful and friendly. The attached restaurant and breakfast is poor, so ask for directions to Vic's Cafe nearby.

    « Rebuilt beautiful hotel »

Very much upscale Best Western hotel. Staff were very pleasant. The facility was clean, modern and looked new. The rooms are spacious and lovely. Kitchen were equipped, no restaurant on premises but many near by. You can walk everywhere from the hotel, quite central. Lots of construction being done, once completed there will be more amenities near by

    « Excellent accomodation »

We rented a two bedroom apartment for only one night. It was excellent. Very clean, all requirements fully provided in the kitchen and two nice sized bedrooms. The bathroom was clean and tidy. The location is quite close,to,the centre of the city, about 15 mins walk. We did not use the onsite restaurant. I would definitely stay here again.

    « Large rooms and a lounge »

Overall the hotel was OK, clean tidy and good service from the front desk. The room I was in had two bedrooms, a large lounge and a full kitchen so if you wanted to do your own cooking etc it is a perfect option and also the lounge is a good place to chill. This hotel is a bit on the outskirts of the CBD but still an OK walk into town to some of the restaurants. There is plenty of parking right next to the complex although in the morning it was super busy with worker from the nearby construction sites. Good place to stay especially if there is a group of you

« SUCH A SHAME ABOUT THE SURROUNDINGS »

Due to the terrible damage from the earthquake there is nothing around this hotel at all. The building next to it has completely gone and opposite is a building site so very noisy early in the morning. The rooms are very generous. We had a suite with full kitchen and dining which was really large. The bathroom and shower was a little dated with half bath incorporated in the shower but great for soaking tired feet. The hotel lacks a little soul but I think its because so few were there so it seemed quite empty but the beds and pillows were so very comfy. If you are pushed for time then sadly at the moment Christchurch may be worth bypassing as so many buildings have been pulled or are being pulled down so looks very depressing which is such a shame for tourism there The streets and cafes are empty. I feel it will take many years to recover

« Worst Dining Experience EVER!!! »

Experienced inept service and diabolical food at Figue. Voucher used included a glass of bubbles. The "champagne" offered was flat white wine of dubious quality. Sent back twice, complained and told "the bottle was only opened 2 days ago!" Water spilt by waitress didn't get mopped up until end of the meal. She almost poured beer into glass with ice! Weird small overpriced menu. One lamb chop and tired salad that was meant to be veges on the menu. Stale inedible dessert. DISGRACEFUL, AVOID!!

    « Not impressed »

We had dinner here and we were shown the menu a very small selection to choose from we both had linguine for starters very dry no sauce very dissapointed then he had a steak and I had salmon I don't think they are qualified chefs as I had apple sauce and pineapple on top of my salmon a strange combination I thought and 5 wedges and a lot of red onion and a bit of spinach ummm not good we won't be going back ever it's not a restaurant I would recommend in chch it's a shame as the outside area is lovely shame about the food thou

« Beautiful hotel average staff »

Can't fault the hotel rooms, beautiful rooms. Super comfortable beds! Staff are a let down. Generally not overly friendly or helpful. They state in the book in the room that there is 24 hour room service, yet when I called they said they are not sure of its opening hours. Sometimes it's open, sometimes is not. Better communication from staff is needed, and a smile now and than.

The hotel is good and clean and staffs were friendly. We had arrived late the first day we were in christchurch and we all were very tired so the staff asked whether the kitchen in the restaurant downstairs can accept more customers and they did. We really appreciated it. More than that the meal was splendid.

    « Love it! »

Beautiful hotel with friendly staff at Reception. Thought the suite was a 1 bedroom, it was actually 2 so even better for the price i paid. Very clean, well equipped kitchen, fridge and washing machine. Pressure just right in Shower and comfy, clean beds. Casino and all other bars, restaurants a couple mins away. So affordable when you bargain hunt for specials on Room Rates. Would highly recommend! I will be back!

    « Exceptional accommodation »

The room we stay in at Fino was amazing. It had two bedrooms both with king beds, a microwave, washing machine/dryer, balcony with table and chairs and more. It was close to town with a restaurant on the ground floor. Excellent facilities.

    « Second to none »

This was my first stay at the Fino, to which the accomodation, the location and staff are second to none in NZ. Rooms are very spacious, modern & really well appointed, its central location makes it ideal for visiting the city sites or surrounding areas. Niki, Dylan & the rest of their team are exceptional, their attention to detail and willingness to assist is what makes the stay that much more enjoyable. Highly recommend!
