    « Best western room 911 was in poor repair and needed cleaning »

    We stayed in room 911 for 3 nights in mid November and found the room to be dirty and in poor repair. The carpet was so stained and un clean I actually cut my foot on glass in the carpet and had to wash the dirt of my feet that transferd to my feet from the dirty carpet. The shower floor was stickey, the windows in the unit had smudges on them (un cleaned) the entrance door broke twice in 3 days. The couches in the living room have stickey food crumbs in them and are so old and in need or repolacement. The desk and char was Ikea poor quality and the desk chair was broken. Found 2 pairs of woman's under ware in the drier from a previous guest. Roof top pool was un lit at night and very dangerous. No outdoor lighting on the roof at all (even though the pool was open) Over all these apartments do not belong in the Best western chain. A few pluses were you get some space for the rental since it is a one bedroom apartment. You get a washer and drier and a kitchen with stove and oven. Our cost was about 150.00 AU per night which was an OK cost if the room was at least cleaned better and the carpets shampood.

    The staff were very helpful, allowing me to book into my room a lot earlier than planned. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and each room had a nice kitchenette which can save a lot of money to have a quick breakfast or lunch. The room had a balcony with a view although the balcony area could be nicer as it was not cleaned and had nowhere to sit and enjoy the view. The accommodation was close to everything and across the road from the central shopping centre and the station. The hotel was very good value for money.

    I recently moved from London to Cairns for work. My employer put me in this motel for the first 3 weeks while I get settled down. This motel locates right across street of my workplace which is very convenient. Unfortunately, other than that, this motel is absolutely disappointing and substandard in every aspects. Upon arrival, this one-bedroom apartment seems fine for its category. It is a simple, minimalistic, self-containing unit. However, after a couple of days, I realised the kitchen counter is full of ants and I saw cockroaches on 2 occasions. I really cannot stand having cockroaches in my living space. The kitchenwares such as cups and cookware are filled with stain. That made me wonder if the previous tenants had ever cleaned them after use. Because of that, I ate out every night during my stay and avoided using the in-house utensils as far as possible. Last but not least, the Internet connection is far beyond frustrating. Its capacity is satisfactory for ordinary web browsing and text messaging. But it's definitely not enough for streaming or watching movies. It got cut off several times just to watch a 20min sitcom. It advertises to be in Cairns City but, in fact, it's about 30 minutes walk from the real city centre where all the excitements are. There is a convenience store 2 blocks away but big supermarkets are much farther away. Although my employer booked me for 3 weeks, I moved out in just one week as soon as my long term rental apartment was ready. I simply cannot stand this living environment.

    Best Western has it all, accommodating 3 seniors full Kitchen laundry and dryer extremely comfortable opposite Cairns Hospital and a walk to the Esplanade , plenty of coffee shops , eateries Gift shops, markets, and a great swimming and sunbaking area, a choice of adventures Reef and hinterland Cairns has it all but can be seasonal

    Everything you need is available at these self catering accommodation. Two roomed apartment with Foxtel just outside the main attractions so cheaper to stay. The main seafront area is about a ten minute walk. Clean apartments with air con throughout and friendly helpful staff

    « Disappointing »

    We usually choose Best Western when we travel as supposedly there is a general expectation of good, clean apartments with good amenities. The size of the one bedroom apartment was great. The kitchen very workable. Scarce on furnishing but adequate. The unit reaked of mould upon entering it, and our request to relocate to a 'sunnier' unit without the mould was denied. They offered the unit next door which was even further away from possible sunlight. We always request a 'nice outlook' but there are no nice outlooks in this building. The units are all face the block of units next door - you could not even use the balcony without the person in the opposite units hearing you. Dark and unappealing - stunk of mould - main bedroom no natural light (which is probably the issue with the mould). Water stains on the carpet. Tiny pool. If you are wanting a 'sunny, bright, airy' apartment with a useable balcony (what you would expect on holiday) do your homework and go somewhere else. We left earlier than planned. Very depressing part of our north Qld experience. Cairns has hundreds of great apartments. These are not one of them. In need of serious upgrade. We have contacted Best Western.

    Great apartment, really clean and very spacious. Staff were great! Not far from all the shops/ restaurants. Not too noisy. Mostly family's. Really glad the apartment had a dishwasher! Makes having a holiday more enjoyable when you don't have to clean.

    Don't confuse this Best Western with the one across the road from Cairns Central shopping centre. This one is located on Lake street, across the road from the public hospital. I was happy with the apartment, great size. Had all the necessities. You are able to walk into the main centre of town/esplanade/cairn central however I'd recommend having a car/taxi. The Bayleaf restaurant is a great choice for dinner within a blocks walking distance.

    The apartments have great potential. All amenities are present. But it is old and worn, needs an upgrade in sofa and bed. It is not clean. Found old two different old socks in room and food under the bed. The bed is poor, like sleeping on the floor. A business centre is advertised but one does not exist. Dealing with the receptionist outside through a window is not pleasant or welcoming.

    all staff are very helpful and friendly albeit they are only there 8 - 6. A bit off the main esplanade but it means more quiet in the evening. Supermarket and main shopping centre and Coles Supermarket just across the street which is good if u go for a family trip and u make your own meals (which we did 3 of the 4 nights there, kitchen are well-equipped). Rooms are very clean and beds are comfy. Good wifi. What a shame that the rooftop swimming pool are completely fenced off and the view is blocked.

    « Great but badly managed »

    I've stayed here a few times. Love the location, apartments are very good and comfortable. Rooms are spotlessly clean and well equipped. I just don't think they have the right people running this property. -The entrance is pretty poorly signed and quite depressing as you walk in. For an accommodation property the main entrance is quite obscure, there are other businesses next door with better signage. - I was greeted by a man who I assumed was the handyman. His white polo shirt was so old and discoloured. After talking at check in I found out he was the manager. This scruffy appearance made me think twice about staying here again. Then his wife walked in and started sorting things out in front of guests. As a guest sitting in the lobby I heard the whole conversation about what they wanted on their sandwiches for lunch. NOT PROFFESSIONAL. - The lobby is tired. There are businesses that operate within the same building so obviously it gets a lot of foot traffic but it's not a welcoming environment. It seriously needs a bit of attention and updating. - Was allocated a room with a garden, 5th floor I think. Most plants had died and weeds were prevalent . Room was fine but not a good outlook. It was obvious there was no attention to detail. Most plants had died and were over run by weeds. With the right management I think this building would be great. It's currently managed by Best Western. I don't think this is doing the property justice. The room was absolutely fine. I think this is mainly due to the hard working house keeping department. Otherwise it really needs a clean up, fresh paint and furniture in the lobby area, fresh enthusiastic staff.


    Apart from the great price the apartment offered fabulous vicinity. Opposite a great shopping centre, easy walking to the foreshore. The staff were obliging and very helpful. Facilities were excellent for our 3 night stay and would be good for any length of time. Laundry detergent was included for any washing that was required. Overall very comfortable and highly recommended. Will be coming here again. Wifi sometimes iffy.

    Will. NOT recomend to anyone. Stayed for a few weeks. The place was so noisy. Plenty of banging doors from guest as well as the cleanersSlamming doors wehether its day time or night time, caouldn't get any proper rest.

    « Good Central Cairns Accom »

    Originally booked in here via for one week but enjoyed it so much we stayed for two ! These apartments are situated right opposite Cairns Hospital on Lake St. From the outside they look not very pretty but the apartments are spacious, clean and very well equipped. Our balcony faced onto Lake St overlooking the hospital but we never experienced any noise issues. No sea views ( one block back from the sea) but handy for the prom and only a short ( 10min) walk from central Cairns. Buses to the Northern Beaches stop just 100yds down the road. There is a small supermarket & bottle shop just a couple of blocks away on the Cooke Highway. Small issue with money taken off our credit card without permission after we left & settled up our bill but this was promptly refunded after we challenged it. There is a small pool & barbecue area but the better bet is to walk down the seafront to the huge Lido. Lots to do in Cairns & surrounds & this is a comfortable base.

    Overall hotel has all of the required amenities , and close to CBD. Directly across the road from the hospital so good if you wanted somewhere near by. Undercover and reasonably secure parking , great for the one or two nights stay.

    « Spacious, convenient and friendly! »

    5mins from the Cairns airport, short walk to the city & esplanade, and very clean, spacious apartment-like rooms; what more could I ask for?! I stayed at the Best Western during my first visit to Australia and had a wonderful stay! The hotel is conveniently located to restaurants, shopping, airport, and even the hospital for those just-in-case scenarios ;) The rooms were very spacious - it felt like I had my own apartment in Australia! The staff was really friendly and helpful in creating a great list of activities that covered all the highlights. I left Cairns feeling like I saw a little bit of everything!

    Very close to CBD and 1 block prom the waterfront. Spacious apartments close to restaurants, shopping and tourist activities, we had a second floor apartment with a small balcony, yes it does overlook buildings as per another review but it's refreshing to have a drink and relax on. Parking is secure under building and it has a nice pool, not huge but functional. If staying here try the local dining at the Cock and Bull restaurant just around the corner.
