I flew in to help assist with families and kids during hurricane Helene. What shannon and her team did here/continuing to do during this time for the community is heroic. This team has put up linemen, relief workers, and community members. They are open for food, donations, supplies and more all while still trying to maintain their facility, fix plumbing issues, and other things. Stephanie at the front desk was lovely and kind, and all the staff we encountered were great. Rooms were spacious and clean. Located close to some shops and restaurants. If I ever come down to Banner Elk again I'd support this business again! Thankful for people like them during a time of need! restores your faith in humanity!
very nice stay at this hotel. The staff was great very accommodating and helpful. The manager actually called our room to make sure everything was fine. breakfast included was a nice touch because it was very clean and tasty. All in all this was a very nice trip.
Staff was very friendly. Check in was very quick and easy. Very clean and comfortable rooms. Breakfast is included with many different options. One knock is if have room upstairs you need to bring it up stairs. Other thing is the shower is hard to manage temperature with the 2 knobs.
Great beds, great employees, expensive but great quality. Very clean!! Needed more shampoo. Wasn't enough for balding old man. Breakfast was very good. Coffee was good. Biscuits a little over cook. But overall a good breakfast.would stay again.
Older facility but very comfortable and pleasant. The room was very clean and quiet. I will definitely stay again. The check in staff was very friendly and cordial. The lobby was clean and inviting as well as the outside of building and parking lot.
Rooms are not extremely dated and the cleaning staff need to actually clean the bathroom so new guests are not using dirty facilities from the last guest! The room smelled like dirty old carpet. Ownership is negligent based on the smell and cleanliness of facilities. Definitely not work $250 a night! Just don't stay here!
Very friendly staff, rooms are clean. Easy access to rooms. Right near several restaurants & 4 minutes from Lees-Mcrae college. Breakfast could be a little better. But for the peaceful clean atmosphere we couldn't have asked for better. It's our go to when in town.
Everything about this hotel is wonderful. The rooms are spacious, the bed is so comfortable. The entire hotel is clean. The decor of the rooms very cute & " mountainy". The location was perfect for us. Definitely recommend this hotel.
What an outstanding lodge in a small town off the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. It has the feel of a mountain lodge. The ladies who checked us in at the front desk were friendly and went above and beyond to meet our needs. They even made a phone call after we checked in to be sure everything was OK. They also provided good advice about restaurants and the surrounding area. The room was spacious with a sofa and sitting area. The bed was wonderful and a nice-sized TV was in the room. The grounds are nice, and while the weather didn't permit it, the pool and pool area looked great. The breakfast buffet is above average with a good selection, though the waffles are toaster waffles (cuts down on the wait time). This is a great place to say, and I highly recommend it.
I love this Best Western! I've stayed multiple times and it has always been a good experience. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I'm always happy to step in to the warm and rustic decorated lobby to see a smiling face behind the desk to greet me. The rooms are adequate, comfortable and always clean. (The king suite is quite nice, actually) I come to the area for hiking and love the close proximity to Grandfather Mountain. There are a number of good restaurants close by. I also appreciate the reasonable rates.
The location of the hotel was great and the staff was beyond friendly. The room served it's purpose for the night, but there was a smell in the room and the carpet looked dirty. It was probably just old and worn. The price was a bit high considering the quality of the room, but I am assuming we paid more since it was graduation weekend in Boone.
This hotel had such friendly staff and clean rooms. The breakfast was hot, tasty and kept well stocked. The location was fantastic if you are visiting Blue Ridge Parkway attractions such as Grandfather's mountain and Linville Falls.
Room was very clean. Love when the room has no carpeting with pets. Would stay here again Breakfast not the greatest but that's nothing new
This is a great place to stay for activities in and around Banner Elk. Location is very convenient to Beech and Sugar Mountain. Our room was very clean and comfortable. A hot breakfast was included and was very good.
Free breakfast, immaculate rooms, wonderful staff, and great pricing! This is my go to location in the area whether it's a family, friends, or business outing! A stay here beats paying an arm and a leg for an AirBnB or house rental. Great location for Sugar Mtn summer or winter and only a short drive over to Beech Mtn. The staff here knows all the best places to go and have all kinds of discounts at area restaurants, resorts, and shops available to their guests. The pool and grounds are always immaculate in summer and the parking lot and walkways are always well managed and safe in winter! If you're coming up to spend most of your day on the mountain, skip the $1000 cabin rental and make the Best Western your mountain HQ!
Unfortunately did not live up to our expectations. The internet is really bad. Breakfast was just ok with not enough cold cereal selection and the hot food not hot. Rooms are average nothing outstanding but for the money paid I would look elsewhere. On the positive check in ladies were amazing and extremely helpful - absolutely faultless.
Cannot say enough how much the front end staff went above and beyond to ensure we didn't have to sleep in the truck with our pups after being turned away by a 3rd party reservation that was mistaken about another hotel's pet policy.
We stayed for 3 nights. It was clean and affordable. The lobby was nice and cozy. Rooms were motel style which meant that if you are on the 2nd floor, you need to carry up your luggage. It also means you can park in front of your room. Our room felt on the small side, but we did have our ski stuff with us. The staff all seemed very friendly. The breakfast was good, and the attendant was extra helpful. He was friendly and working hard to keep everything refilled and cleaned. The location is minutes from Sugar and Beech Mountain.
For the nightly rate I would expect to stay in a room which is much more comfortable. As a recommendation, take out what looks like 30 year old well worn carpet and install luxury vinyl plank, porcelain, or ceramic floors.
I was going to leave 3 stars. First, I will say that the staff were very helpful and friendly. Housekeeping was also very accommodating with providing fresh towels, toiletries. Rooms could use an update, especially carpeting which was musty and worn. Breakfast was ok. We will not be returning. My 10 year old waited until we checked out today to show me a video recording of a rat going in and out of a hole underneath the foundation of the main check in building. My husband told him not to show mommy the recording until after we left because he knew we would have checked out a day early. Will not be back.
We needed a hotel close by the Land of OZ and we chose the best western ar banner elk. Best decision we made. The rooms were clean an comfortable. The breakfast could have been better....but hey...the hotel was great. Staff was very helpful and friendly.
I absolutely love this place! From the receptionists, to the maintenance man to the breakfast employee, they were all absolutely amazing at their jobs. Excellent customer service by all. Each was quick, friendly, helpful & knowledgeable. I highly recommend this place & would definitely go back, if in the area again. Room was spectacular. When the fridge & microwave were not working, we brought it to the attention of the front desk, and they immediately had someone fix it. Also, when the scrambled eggs ran out at breakfast, they quickly got more. Lastly, when we needed directions, the receptionists were well prepared, with a print out of them. No waiting around for service! So impressed! Best stay of our trip! They put the BEST in Best Western!
We had such a great stay at Best Western mountain lodge, the rooms were extremely clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, the breakfast was great. We can't say anything bad, we will definitely be back
We arrived on a Saturday early evening. The reception staff was super friendly and very welcoming. We were assigned room 106. Our room had a musky stale smell. We turned on the A/C and left for an hour or so. Upon returning the odor wasn't as bad. The curtain in that room should have been replaced with the remodel, it's in very poor condition. The grounds look nice and there's a 8' deep pool. The breakfast was adequate. Overall we had a quiet restful sleep. On road trips we arrive late and depart early, so we don't require a lot of amenities.
Best Western in Banner Elk has some of the nicest people managing it. From the front desk to house keeping they are very polite. The rooms are clean and I love the Scottish theme. I only wish they were a bit less expensive but that is so I could go back more often.
Great place to stay. Employees were EXCELLENT. Parking was good. Easy to find parking and overall parking was available all the time. Breakfast was EXCELLENT, good food. Hot and a very clean location to eat and serve food.
This hotel has been around since I was a child, and owned by several brands over the years. When I was in high school it was a Holiday Inn. We tried to stay there one night. We walked in the room, and walked back out, and got a refund. I've avoided it ever since. It got such great reviews I decided to try it since I had my dog with me, and I'm glad I did. I was absolutely shocked by how much I loved it! I travel often, but this was my first time staying at a Best Western in years. I travel with my dog, and am trying out different pet friendly hotel brands. The lobby is very clean, and nicely decorated. Roni at the front desk is a true asset to the hotel. She talked to me like we'd been friends for years, and made sure I had all the important info I needed about the hotel, and everything I needed to know since I had a dog with me. She truly went above and beyond. It's obvious that she really cares about her job, and her guests, and that's very rare to find in the hospitality industry anymore. The hotel is older. Probably 30+ years in my estimation. The only area that showed a bit of it's age was the railings, and walk ways. Other than that the exterior was immaculate. Our room was incredibly clean, and comfortable. It was also very quiet. I noticed that they were taking the shower curtains out of every room to wash them along with the bedding and towels which was really nice to see. I was absolutely shocked at how much I loved this hotel given our experience there years ago when it was owned by another brand. It easily became my go-to hotel for Banner Elk/Boone.
Location great, staff great, view great, pool great, parking great, there are even picnic tables and a grill to use. Front lobby real great! The room was all about comfort. The property is in an excellent location.
Pull out bed was not comfortable and didn't provide sheets for it or pillows . Lights in rooms and bathrooms were very low. The pool was excellent. Very clean. Rooms were clean and coffee was good. The price was a little high for the living area. Overall it was a good stay.
It was great, the room was clean.I would recommend this hotel to anyone, if I ever go back there I will definitely be staying there for sure. Only regret is that we didn't get the chance to go swimming.
Hotel is definitely above average but could use some improvement. Internet connection definitely needs to be upgraded. Room was clean but showing some age. Staff was friendly and helpful. Comfortable and a good value.
Before my husband and I checked on that ice hotel, we had several questions we need a dancer it over the phone first . Linda and Rona., we're kind and courteous and helpful. They answered all of our questions without making us feel like we were a bother for asking.. after we checked in, my husband inquired about a cup of coffee. Linda brewed him a whole pot. I can't say enough good things about this location they truly did go above and beyond.. and the room was also clean, and breakfast was really good. They had more at this location than we have had anywhere. would highly recommend staying at this location.
Great place to stay the night. Clean room, nice amenities, etc. The only deficiency was the bedding. Less than 20 degrees outside and 2 thin blankets were provided. Had to go to front desk to get additional blankets and even those were thin and weightless. Other than that, great location and clean.
We had a pleasant experience at this Best Western.Great helpful employees and the breakfast was delicious. They had coffee available all day and that is a favorite perk of mine. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.
No breakfast, no extra blankets, room was bot cleaned doe two days. Building is old and falling apart. I do not recommend this hotel. The only good part was the location. 10 minutes from Sugar Mountain.
Good location, friendly staff, and complimentary breakfast. Room and amenities were clean. Beds were comfy and heat worked well with 20-40 degree weather.. Tub was clogged but not a major deal. Room was clean, as were the amenities. Place is a little dated but who cares unless you're a snob. The location is right in the middle of places to see a a few minutes from Sugar Mountain. Only problems that we're minor for us were the occasional rude guest with their kids running amuck during breakfast with those same people taking more than their fair share of breakfast items, and people with poorly-trained dogs. Not much you can do about that though and not the hotel's fault. Would stay again.
When you arrive at the Best western you are greeted with a Scottish Highlands themed lobby, and the employees were very nice and cordial. The room is nice and quaint with a no-frills appearance. The bed is stiff, and the pillows are too. Bring your own soap and shampoo maybe even a noise machine to drown out the Ambiant noise of the neighbors around.
Clean rooms. Good location. Room are very noisy and dated. You can hear everything outside and from the connecting rooms. Hot water takes forever and doesn't get very hot. Breakfast was the worst I've seen.
Didn't know we had booked during the small town Christmas in Banner Elk . It was just like the Hallmark movies. Was magical down to the lobby of the hotel. Our friends received a Christmas tree package from a local Christmas tree farm. That was something new I'd never seen from a hotel before .
The room was very poorly taken care of. Instant odor when you walked in. Floors were very dirty, and we had several spiders and webs on the ceilings. We had to switch rooms as soon as we got there because they put us in a very unsafe location where construction was taking place, and they never notified us before arrival of this. For two women staying by them selves we felt very unsafe and unclean. The beds were hard as a ROCK, not even exaggerating. Not to mention we paid 200 dollars a night for what was a glorified motel 6 room.
My daughters wedding was at a local venue. The scenery in this area was very nice. But also had access to so many other conveniences as well. Some great restaurants, like the Pedalin' Pig or the Asian restaurant just down the street. So good!
The price was high at over 200 per night. Lots of renovations going on, dusty. They will only clean room and bring towels if you stay more than two nights. I would maybe stay there again but definitely not at that price.
I am rating this 5 based on price/value/comfort. The property is well maintained and the room is very clean and everything works. Gr8 view of the mountains, friendly staff, comfortable bed and pillows. I recommend.
We had reserved four rooms. I walked in our room and it smelled like sewer. Two rooms had to be switched because of the smell. That was basically the start of what was a HORRIBLE experience!! We wanted a cup of coffee when we woke up. We opened the coffee pot to pour water in it, and it was full of mold! We also found a pair of underwear " that didn't belong to us", behind a chair that was in our room, not to mention the countless spiders that we had to kill inside our room. We couldn't sleep because the beds were rock hard and young kids running the halls all night long. The tub was so slick that we had trouble standing up to even wash ourselves. They have no maid service whatsoever. Didn't receive any new towels, the beds were not made when we got back to our room. Plus the bedsread was torn to shreds.. That was the just the first room after switching. The second room was just as bad plus hand prints on the headboard, the tub didn't drain and was slick as snot. When we went down for breakfast, the biscuits and gravy were ice cold. The attendant had gray hair and was probably the rudest person we have ever met! If a person spends their hard earned money for a motel room, they shouldn't have to deal with rude people.
We stayed in the King suite, and were very pleased with the cleanliness, a comfortable bed, comfortable sofa, and plenty of toiletries. The jacuzzi was very nice as well. The hotel lobby was warm and inviting. We plan to stay there again on our next trip.
They might as well have put sandpaper in place of the cheap and rough toilet paper in the room. The tissues were cheap as well. The motel more than doubles the rate for weekend stays. The motel is in need of upgrading and remodeling. Although we were otherwise comfortable in our 2 night weekend stay, I can not recommend this motel to anyone. The owners are profit oriented at the expense of the customer.
Exceptionally welcoming, helpful, and efficient staff! The Lodge is not fancy, but the room was clean, functional, the bed was comfortable, and the setting is nice and convenient to a number of restaurants.
Very nice hotel. Friendly, helpful staff, especially with information about the local area. Pet friendly. Good selection of hot and cold items for breakfast. They even have a pancake maker. Only downside was the skimpy juice glasses .
Although the staff here was friendly and helpful, the facility is very rundown, old, and in need or total renovation. The hot water in the ancient shower was on and off. The AC woke us up every time it came on because it was so loud. And the internet worked only intermittently.
The motel is nice, clean with the usual amenities. The room could use much more light as it was difficult to read at night. The breakfast was very poor and not on par with the rest of the stay. They didn't even have grits. What southern breakfast skips grits?
Well managed and cared for. Staff extremely friendly and accommodating They obviously take pride in upkeep and cleanliness. Truly pet friendly although pet rooms are designated. 2 story outside entrances.
This was a really quaint hotel in the mountains. It was great as a rustic stay and surrounding outdoor field. Staff was really great and accommodating. This hotel has great views and peaceful surroundings.
Comfortable beds. Room has a refrigerator and microwave. Ask for extra coffee or pillows and they will have them in the room for check in. I'm looking forward to warmer weather so we can check out the pool!
Nice room very clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast with a good variety. Best pet room prices I've seen. Will stay again, just ensure you get a first floor room if stairs are difficult for you.
The staff at Best Western Mountain Lodge is Banner Elk is one of the best. The rooms could use a bit of updating and need a really thorough clean, but overall it is a decent place to stay. Be aware that the price increases significantly on weekends. We were there for a house closing so it was not really business or leisure.
Always a pleasure to stay here. Easy access to Ski resorts and restaurants in the area. I have made reservations here for the past 15 years and never had an issue. The staff is great and breakfast is good.
BW is our favorite place to stay when skiing near Boone/Banner Elk, NC. For 2 adults and 2 kids a 2 queen room it came out to be about $50/night/person during peak ski season. That's incredible. While I've slept in better beds, but these were fine. Breakfast was hot with plenty of options. There's also an outdoor pool (closed in Feb of course) and an exercise room, but we did not use so can't review.
Great location, easy to get to places and very clean and friendly people. Could get to places easily and in the middle of everything with a quick drive to downtown banner elk or hawksnest tubing. Great breakfast just wish they had a few more flavor choices on some things.
The condition of my room was very disappointing. The carpet was worn out and the two upholstered chairs had torn fabric The heating and air conditioner unit was deafening when it came on. The vanity and bathroom areas were showing a lot of wear too. This room needs a total makeover. The upside was that the staff I interacted with were cordial and polite.
This hotel has so much potential with its location. It has a large pool area and conference facilities. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The hotel is clean. Breakfast is hot and tasty. Hotel pancakes were terrific. The hotel also is extremely outdated.
When you consider the price, location, and what you get for the money I thought it was a good deal. We have returned for several years in a row. If you are picky you might think the carpet in the room was a little dirty but with a snowy parking lot and salt and sand people track in dirt and you can't avoid that. The breakfast is a little limited but they had scrambled eggs, sausage and biscuits and gravy with an assortment of other things like fruit, muffins and instant oatmeal. The room was clean, beds comfortable, shower hot and good pressure. I ski all day and don't spend a lot of time awake hanging out in the room. I just need a good clean, comfortable and safe place to sleep. This hotel provides those things to me. I'll be back.
This is a good place to stay if you're on a budget. It's also a great location —being right near Beech mountain skiing. We appreciated the hot breakfast each morning. The staff was friendly and helpful and the fireplace going in the lobby added to the ambiance of the hotel. The rooms were clean. (Though we wish they had an option for queen beds). It would be awesome if the hotel would build an indoor heated pool/Jacuzzi to enjoy year-round. Other than that, we thought it was a good value for the price. We would stay there again!
Best Western Banner Elk has consistently been a great stay when I've skied Sugar Mountain over past 20 years. I hadn't been in 5 years, but stayed here Jan 23, 2022 and happy to experience they continue to offer a nice room, good hot breakfast served fresh, and a friendly welcome! Easy in and out and only a mile from Sugar Mtn ski, highly recommend this BW!
Great location! Easiest check and out process we have ever used. We traveled during a snow storm and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had everything that we needed and to let us know the conditions for the day. We absolutely love the roaring fire in the lobby, we found ourselves thawing out from the snow day in front of it every night.
We own a cabin on Beech Mountain, NC. Our property was rented when we decided we wanted to make a quick trip for Friday night skiing both Friday night and during the day Saturday. The hotel was ready for arrival and the room was in great/clean condition. More channels on the TV than expected and vending machines available for snacks as we arrived late. Bedding was not very comfortable but the mattress and pillows were fine. Quick hot grab 'n go breakfast was tasty in the morning. No lines to check in or get breakfast which was nice as we had plenty of lines at the slopes. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.
If you're looking for a room that has the essentials, at an average or perhaps a little lower value, with a fairly charming lobby, this is your place to stay. Would recommend it for short stays, as long as you're not relying on their breakfast to get your days started. Pretty great location if you're planning on visiting nearby mountains for snow activities. Service isn't bad but we didn't feel particularly welcomed.
Very disturbing noises from other guests people wrestling in one room and others yelling and cursing, several we're running around the rooms to intentionally disturb people yet the staff did nothing to quite them! I requested a new room because they wouldn't do anything to resolve the issue, i had to wake my 6 year old son and move him at 2am in the cold night to a new room. Entrance to hotel front door blocked so you're unable to unload your luggage at the front from your car. Breakfast is horrible, ran out of certain items. Only served cold breakfast, used to serve hot gravy and biscuits with scrambled eggs, now it's complete garbage. Hot water didn't last long at all. It seems as if this hotel has become a party hotel and gone down hill tremendously! I used to enjoy staying here and they used to have great breakfast, sadly things have changed! If I would've know it had gotten like this I definitely would've stayed elsewhere and I definitely will not be returning!
First off, I stay at this place multiple times per year. I like it that much. It's the reason that I joined Best Western's loyalty program. I recently stayed here with two family members and everybody enjoyed it. The rooms, though a bit dated, were clean and everything worked well (particularly the HEAT, which was very welcome in late November). The amenities and staff, though are where this place shines. It has the best front desk staff of any Best Western that I have visited. The lobby area is very nicely decorated in a Scottish motif (the area was settled by Scots). The normal breakfast is the best I've seen in a hotel in this price range (although it has been limited by COVID precautions). Finally, this Best Western is pet friendly! It has dedicated pet friendly rooms that you can specifically pick when you make reservations. This means that people with allergies are able to avoid the rooms where pets have stayed.
Hands down' the best pet friendly lodge at Banner Elk NC. Amenities were all inclusive. Reasonably priced and provides service members ample discount for their service. Most of all, with great helpful staff ready to render their assistance and service to their guest. Additionally, this location is centrally located to were the action is. Truly a Resort Mountain Paradise.
The Mountain Lodge is conveniently located between Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain Ski resorts near the Banner Elk downtown area. Tour Lees McRae College while your here, it's a beautiful campus. You won't regret staying in Banner Elk
We picked this motel for a short trip to the NC mountains based mainly on price and location. It's an old-style outside entrance motel. It has obviously been renovated a number of times, but it's still old-style. When we made the reservation, we had the choice of a pet-friendly room (no thanks!) or a handicapped accessible room. We chose the latter. At one time this room was a normal room. When it was converted, the floor plan became crazy! Close to half the total floor space is in the bathroom. The bathroom sink is in one corner of the room, with a one-foot-wide counter to the left and no other counter space. The toilet was in an adjacent corner. Across the room was a zero-curb shower. Pretty sparse! Outside the bathroom was a hallway about 3.5 feet wide and 12 feet long. There isn't much you can do with that kind of space, so there was a round three-foot-wide table with one chair at the far end of the hall. Strange. The rest of the room was really cramped. There was no closet - just a very small dresser and small space to hang clothing. This room was okay for a couple of days, but I would not want to stay in it for a week.
Spent two nights here while hiking in the area. This property is a motel, so I'll evaluate it as such. And it does have a lot of retro charm. Nevertheless, it was $179/night, so it should live up to high expectations. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room and all common areas were clean. The bed was comfortable and the room had a microwave and refrigerator. The breakfast was adequate and served with friendly efficiency. The property needs some basic maintenance, such as repairing broken tiles on the walkways and weatherstripping room doors. There was a lot of lichen growing on the roof shingles. Also, the room was not very soundproof — maybe because of the lack of weatherstripping/quarter inch gap between door and jamb — so I could clearly hear others' conversations. Luckily, things were quiet overnight. Overall, it is a safe choice for a comfortable, if not luxurious, evening.
We were very satisfied with our reservation. Our room was very clean, all the amenities worked, the staff explained everything to us. They had free maps available, that we used, to view area attractions. We bagged our breakfast the next morning, and left rested, and happy!
Last minute get away. We were lucky to stumble upon this hotel as everywhere else seemed to be booked or too expensive. The hotel was very clean and quite. Our room had a king bed, small refrigerator, microwave and single cup coffee maker. The breakfast was a pack and go, you picked what you wanted and took back to your room. Great location, very convenient to site seeing, shopping and local parks.
Love staying at the Best Western because I can always count on cleanliness. This location has the nicest rooms and most importantly the friendliest and most helpful staff. I love the Banner Elk area this time of year but it is a little busy. These folks seem to handle it well considering all of the staff shortages and other obstacles caused by Covid-19.
We booked this lodge for a one night stay and was happily surprised at what a great experience it was. The outside needs some repair, especially the concrete decking, but the rooms were very clean and updated as well as the lobby. They offered grab and go breakfast and we expected typical danishes and coffee. They had that plus warm sausage biscuits, hard boiled eggs, english muffins/ bagels, fruit and cereal, all either single serve or wrapped. The best part of the breakfast was the very pleasant employee who greeted everyone and pointed out our choices. It was a great place in a sweet town!
Ask for the pool side rooms, it is more quite than the parking lot side. There are only 8 king beds on site. The towels are great the shower is super hot. If you drink hot tea, bring some with you, only coffee is offered in the room.
The beds soft and uncomfortable. The pillows were flat. The freezer door broken and freezer filled with frost. The carpet and curtains were stained and outdated. When we arrived the toilet paper probably had 3 sheets on it, there was another roll, why not replace virtually empty one? The front desk employees nice and helpful. The breakfast disappointing. Oranges had brown spots on them and limited options.
The Mountain Lodge at Banner Elk provided great accomidations for our trip. The location was great with access to many things to do in the area. The management and staff were friendly and helpful. Our rooms were clean, quiet, and had a great mountain view. The "grab and go" breakfast provided a safe envirnoment with many options for kids and adults. I would highly recommend this lodge andwill definately be back in the future!
I strongly recommend staying at the Best Western Mountain Lodge at Banner Elk. The location is perfect - close to great restaurants, hiking trails, the Alpine Coaster, ski resorts (in the winter) and a variety of other interesting sites (including the original General Mast store). The staff is professional, accommodating and friendly; always willing to assist. I've traveled a lot for business and stayed in a number of hotels. I can honestly say this is one of the cleanest hotels I've ever stayed in. It's evident that the staff works hard - the rooms are immaculate and the beds are comfortable. I enjoyed my first visit so much that I made a reservation for the following weekend, which also was an excellent experience.
Make sure you spend time with the manager. She is well versed and helpful about the area. We were on a fly fishing trip. She knew guides in the area and hooked us up with a young knowledgeable man named Will. We had a couple of days of family fun and fishing. What can beat that?
This is a great place to stay in the Banner Elk area. Rooms are well appointed and quiet, especially the interior rooms which face the large pool. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The location is very convenient to all mountain activities as well as restaurants.
The hotel met our expectations. The service and attention received are good. The take out breakfast due to Covid was the best we found on our trip. The rooms are small for a family of 4 but we slept very well. We did not enjoy the hotel services due to bad weather.
The Best Western Mountain Lodge is conveniently located to shops, restaurants and wineries. And is close to Linville, Boone and Blowing Rock. It's decorated with a Scottish flare, has a pool, is a clean, comfortable and peaceful place to stay. It's also close to Sugar Mountain skiing. Banner Elk has a lot of festivals, so it's a perfect location to stay. We love it.
The hotel is clean and comfortable. The rooms are a bit small and the bathroom is very dated. The breakfast is decent - very basic (hardboiled eggs, instant oatmeal, yogurt, etc.). Overall, it is a very average hotel
We got here late in the evening so we couldn't enjoy some of the amenities. I forget to ask for a first floor room so we had to lug our bags up and down. The room was nice and clean. The bed was comfortable. The carpet could use replacing as it was worn in quite a few places. The breakfast was a take and go, but they had breakfast sandwiches and other cold selections. It wasn't bad. I would stay here again if I were back in the area.
We had an overnight stay here after leaving Gettysburg. I was surprised to find this was a motel (outside/exterior entry). We generally prefer not to stay in motels. The area was nice enough so it wasn't a big deal. They only had stairs on one end of the building, instead of both ends. The décor was somewhat outdated, but everything was clean. There is a nice sized shower and individual temp control. Overall, it was fine for the night. The front desk staff was pleasant and gave us a recommendation for dinner. Breakfast the next morning was granola bars and fruit. We took them with us for a snack and ate breakfast somewhere else.
My wife and I found the staff at the the Best Western Mountain Lodge at Banner Elk to be attuned to our needs, responsive, helpful, and well trained, informed and adept in rendering excellent service. Each member of the staff, from making reservations- confirming our reservations- stating our needs and promptly having those needs met- to checking out, represented well Best Western and their brand image. We found the facility and premises to be clean and nicely appointed with Best Western refurbishing and upgrades to an older Motel/Hotel that made our 3 night visit very pleasant and comfortable.
Our room was very clean & comfortable. Staff was extremely pleasant & helpful. We'd definitely stay here again to enjoy Banner Elk, a beautiful resort town in the mountains of North Carolina. I wish we'd had time to enjoy the heated pool. The only downfall was the closed fitness center, thanks to Covid-19.
Wonderful staff. Great location. Building is a little dated but neat and clean and of course I have an open mind about the fact we just came out of a year and a half of Covid that the hospitality business was certainly seriously financially affected.
This property was extremely clean and provided all the necessary ammenities . The decor in the lobby and first floor was so cool. All Scottish themed bc of the high number of Highlanders who immigrated to the area in the 18th century. Really cool artifacts and welcoming lobby with nice furniture. Very cool! And the staff was welcoming and proffesional. I highly recommend this hotel. I'd return again. And the value was great and very well priced with a good location close to downtown.
We were looking for a nice comfortable mountain hotel to stay at while visiting NC. Glad we found this place. It was comfortable and the staff was super friendly. Because of covid they will not clean your room during your stay but they will leave amenities outside your room. All you have to do is call and tell them what you need. The pool was clean and refreshing although we only went once during our stay because how busy it was. The breakfast could have been better but they are doing the best they can during these covid times. The staff was always friendly and accommodating and overall we enjoyed our stay. My only complaint is how outdated the rooms are. The carpet needs to be cleaned or replaced as it was stained but otherwise the room was pretty clean. I would stay here again.
Stayed here for an overnight trip to Banner Elk. It was clean and the staff were very friendly. Its not within walking distance to Banner Elk town center but is a 5 minute drive. It was quiet and they offered a grab and go breakfast which was helpful. Also some rooms are dog friendly and they had an area for doggie business so that was awesome.
The rooms were super clean. It is in a central spot close to Grandfather Mountain, Sugar Mountain, Boone, Blowing Rock and more. Great places to eat nearby and absolutely beautiful surrounding area! The views are incredible.
Did not have to wear a mask anywhere else but this horrible place. As soon as we walked in they asked if we had a mask and my bf asked if they had masks( we did not have any on us since we thought they would be like all the other places),the rude girl at the front said Yes, we all have them on. Duh, that was not what he was asking. The place was outdated and we checked out as soon as we could. Don't waste your money.
From the minute they charged my card (prior to me getting there) to the morning we checked out it was terrible. The lobby has signs everywhere about masks and it being the law that you have to wear one, untrue! I am pro mask, but this Best Western is using Covid to be very, very lazy. I pad a total of $784.00 for 2 rooms,2 nights. We got no maid service at all, not even clean towels. They shorted us towels to start. We ran out of toilet paper as well. The breakfast is a joke. They put out a miniature paper bag (not lunch size) for you to put in a crushed up granola bar, an apple, a cup of cereal, that does not fit in the bag. Tiny muffins, a cold waffle stick wrapped in tin foil from the day before and if you search, a cold hardboiled egg. There is no bottled water anywhere, if you ask for water, it's a project. We attempted to sit in the lobby, but they run the vacuum under your feet and in front of the coffee as people as trying to get some, we saw a guest trip over the cord and he had to apologize. The ice machines in the corridors leak terribly so the floor is very slippery, which is fun when you are walking your mini lunch bags of breakfast and coffee back to your room. I'm not a picky person, I will stay almost anywhere. This was just bad. Everything in Banner Elk is operating normally, and it's lovely, we'll be back. But not to this place.
Our overall stay was nice and the staff was amazing, but the rooms are a bit out dated and just need a little pick me up. The rooms were clean to CDC standards. If you are looking for a less expensive place with a super fantastic staff this would be your place to stay.
I would highly recommend Best Western in Banner Elk, NC, as you will not find a more courteous, helpful, friendly, staff that goes out their way to assist! The facility is super clean, and they maintain a very safe environment for all who stay, as well. The rooms are wonderful-equipped with everything one needs for a stay, and it is quiet, too. Even the pet-friendly rooms are noise-free! This location also offers wonderful amenities to make your stay even more enjoyable (exercise room, pool).
We stayed here for the second time. It's an older motel at the outskirts of Banner Elk, the rooms are updated, the mattress is very comfortable, and the rooms are kept super clean. There are nice picnic benches in the garden. They even provided a decent grab-and-go selection for breakfast during the pandemic. Good job overall! We'll definitely come back when in this area again.
I must admit I was not expecting a lot based on the price. I was surprised to find a very clean, well maintained room. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. The staff was super friendly both at check in and check out.
Staff at this lodge is very friendly and organized. Explained about covid protocols and breakfast, which was grab and go. They had egg sandwiches, yogurt, english muffins, fruit, and oatmeal, etc to grab and take back to your room to eat. The hotel itself is very dated and had lost its luster. I'm talking old shower, small bathroom, old carpet. That being said, the room was very clean, the sink counter top was spacious, the shower head had great water pressure, towels were soft, bed was comfortable, sheets were soft, it seems to be in a safe area, and again, staff was awesome. I am thinking, if they can update their spaces, this hotel could be a total winner! Also, great price for one night.
The room was very very clean, bed was so comfortable. The modified COVID breakfast was very neatly arranged for distancing with and awesome sausage biscuit, hot....The desk staff were very friendly and helpful with dinner suggestions.
We were checked in and served fast and hospitable. Service the entire time. Would love to return in the fall this year. Had easy checkout and parking was awesome. I'm referring this stay to all family and friends.
Ideal location for skiing. Excellent adherence to COVID protocols. Well-maintained. Stayed here frequently. Sign up for the rewards program. Staff friendly and helpful. I wish it were a little cheaper, but it's very high quality.
Shannon and her staff are fantastic ! They go above and beyond for their guests, and make you feel like family. I will definitely be staying here again. The atmosphere of the mountains ranges behind the hotel are phenomenal !
Great location! Just 6 mins to Sugar Mountain Ski Resort. Great and kind customer service. Breakfast was included and keeping the guidelines for the Covid. Was a perfect place for our travel (ski). Fast and easy check-in and check out!!!
We wanted a place close to Sugar Mountain and this place fit the bill. We also brought along our K9 and the dog park at the back had enough space for him to be along with other dogs; and be separated.
Shannon (The Manager) is awesome. They let us have a late checkout. After hitting the black runs first thing in the morning we were able to came back to the room and get ready for the trip home. Thanks staff!!
Overall a nice property - it is an older motel with room access from the exterior of the building. There are some minor noise issues due to this. The staff was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Rooms are nice and clean but nothing extraordinary. I would stay again.
I stayed here with my family for 1 night. We checked in in the evening and left the next morning. But our stay here was nice! The women at the front desk were sweet and helpful, the room was clean, everything worked, beds were comfortable. The hotel was really quiet too. The tiles on the walkway are a bit slick with the snow - that was the only downside but it didn't impact the visit. We'll definitely stay here again when visiting Sugar.
Location was excellent for local ski resorts. Be cautious of the tile walkway when it is snow covered but otherwise most excellent stay. Will definitely be back! Staff is very friendly and helpful.Sugar Mountain is very close and not a far drive to Beech Mountain. Prices are very good for location.
We've been coming to this hotel for several years and always get excellent service, the rooms are very clean and when we need to bring our dog, they have special rooms and large play area out back for pets. During Covid, they practice super safe covid practices (we wouldn't stay if they didn't) and the rooms are very clean. Hotel staff always so welcoming and helfpul.
BEST STAY I HAVE HAD IN WHILE. Staff was respectful of CDC guidelines, rooms were clean/a good value, and only a 15 minute drive to Beech Mountain Ski Resort. The morning of check-out we discovered the battery of our car was dead, the front desk staff was very helpful, and maintenance jumped our car in a timely fashion. Breakfast has a variety of to-go options including hot sausage biscuits which was great before a day of skiing. Thank you for a great stay!
We stayed here for 4 nights the last week of 2020. The staff was very friendly, the hotel was close or accessible to attractions in the area so we liked that. We liked that our room was on the same level of parking since we have alot of luggage so that was convenient. As for the cons, the rooms are in need of urgent refurbishment, the sooner the better. The carpet looks dirty/filthy and it didn't help that because of Covid there wasn't daily housekeeping and there were crumbs that accumulated on it since at times we did eat in the room. The breakfast was meh. Pre-packaged biscuit, apple, granola bar and the other option wasn't much better. No reason there can't be some sort of pre-packaged sandwich with egg toast or something, Also would've been nice had they had trays to carry drinks back to the room. I think if the hotel made these tweaks it could be so much better.
The hotel was very good and excellent location. you are just 5 min away from Sugar Mountain, about 20 minutes away from Grandfather Mountain and 5 minutes away from downtown Banner Elk. Room was spacious and average. beds were comfortable. Because of Covid, the breakfast was in a bag with just a few options with a muffin, juice and a granola bar. I suggested more options at the hotel.
This was our yearly ski trip up to North Carolina with some friends. We usually stay longer but we were only there for one night this time. The best western was the perfect hotel for this. Check in was super simple, the front desk staff were really nice, and told us everything we needed to know about the area and what the hotel offered. The room was pristine and tidy. Will definitely consider staying here again on our next trip!
We returned to the location of our honeymoon 32 years ago. It was really nice to return to the mountains where we started our married life. It has changed a lot to the better. With Valle Crusis close by is enjoyable as well.
We made a last minute trip to attend and tour a facility close by. Staff called before our arrival and explained the current check in procedures and the hotels modified breakfast arrangements. Staff was kind enough to also include the updated road conditions due to recent snow. We arrived very late and staff was super courteous upon check in and took the extra time to explain were to park to limit walking and side walk conditions. Staff in the morning for breakfast were all friendly.
Their are several things that were excellent about our stay. Breakfast was a nice mix of hot and cold items. Everything was packaged so you could take it back to your room and in a way that kept food from being breathed on by anyone else. It was clean and delicious. Check in was quick, and check out was quicker. My daughter left her liquid medication in the room. Instead of throwing it out, they called me. They would have mailed it if it wasn't liquid. When I drove back to get it, they had it waiting to go in a bag. The hotel is close to the Alpine roller coaster, shopping ,dining, and skiing.
Now with COVID-19 it is hard to rate a hotel as most of them had to learn to readjust quickly. Also, most people are avoiding going to hotels, yet there are always situations when you don't have a choice but to stay at a hotel. I will make my review as fair as possible based on my above introduction. The choice of hotels in the Banner Elk area is limited. There are more offers for Bed & Breakfasts, Inns, cabins and Airbnb. So if you need to be in Banner Elk and want to stay at a hotel, this is about your only choice. There are more hotels in Boone, and at a much higher price. The Best Western is a hotel more in the style of a motel, where the rooms are accessed from the outside of the hotel. The facade of the hotel is pretty, more like a lodge, with a nice porte cochere. The rest of the hotel could benefit from updating. However, keeping in mind that this is the only hotel option in Banner Elk, the price is affordable. The rooms are on the small size, and so are the bathrooms. The room has all the amenities that you need, nothing fancy nor modern. However, having stayed at this hotel several times in the last few months, the room has always been VERY CLEAN, which added to the inexpensive price of the hotel, are the reasons why I keep choosing this hotel.
We stayed one night on our way to hike Grandfather mountain. I love dogs and love a hotel that accepts dogs even though we did not have one with us. The lobby carpet was disgusting!!! Dirty spots all over the the carpet, like dog pee? They did not have any rooms available for customers without pets so we had to stay in a room that was pet friendly. I think they have tried to update the rooms but have failed. First, we had been on an 8 mile hike so we were dirty and needed showers. Hmmm, no to water!!! My husband called the office and they did not know why nor did they apologize! I had to take a cold shower, he got a hot one. The room had dog hair on the lamp bases and spider webs. The desk table was leaning because one of the legs was broken. Don't waste your money on this hotel.
Customer service was good. Wifi was VERY bad. Beds were super comfortable and pillows were very small. The tiles out side were pretty slippery. I would think they would be very dangerous during snow and ice. The town it is located is super cute and it is located very close to good restaurants and attractions. This is a tourist area so I guess prices are always higher. Just expected a little more for the price.
I am not sure how people could say this hotel was nice because it wasn't at all for the price we paid! I would never stay at this hotel again. The rooms are so crammed with furniture and so small. The double beds very so tiny that my husband and I hit each other all night long. We had an adjoining room with guests next door that were so noisy. We were preassigned rooms so they wouldn't let us change. The hotel room didn't seem clean to me. We noticed the people next door left the next day and you would think they would have not reserved it for at least a day but that afternoon there were new guests in that room. I expected the remote to be in a container to show it had been cleaned, like the previous Best Western we had stayed in. Our bathtub didn't drain properly so you were standing in water after your shower. I was totally surprised at how thin the walls were in this place. Could hear everything! The lobby area was so nice so I would have expected the rooms to be the same. Very disappointed for the outrageous price we paid. The pictures don't do it justice
Great place, extremely clean and convenient to everything around. But what makes this place stand out is the handicap chair they have attached to their pool. This is an AMAZING and thoughtful addition for kids who are wheel chair bound. That shows such great compassion and goes the extra mile for ALL guests.
Planned a trip to Grandfather Mountain and chose to stay at this hotel as it is pet friendly. Check in was quick and painless stayed in room 136 which is designated pet friendly. It is right across from a soda machine, a vending machine, and the stairs leading from the 2nd floor. Also mind you these are external corridors. Went out for dinner with my wife, and received a call that my dogs were barking. Returned to the hotel to find cigarette butts outside my door, which explains the barking. Went out the next day and got another call my dogs were barking went back walked up and down the hall outside my room no barking, jumped up and down, clapped my hands no barking. Knocked on the soda machine directly across from our door and yep barking. Additionally more cigarette butts were outside my door, so I believe someone was screwing with my dogs and purposely making them bark. Spoke with hotel Manager Shannon and arranged for an early check out. New place....no barking issues and no cigarette butts outside my door! So I guess if you screw with my dogs they bark and if you don't they don't bark. I ask why would a hotel have a pet friendly room across from a noisy vending machine and guest laundry where guests congregate. This hotel was ok, very run down and if I was without my dogs definitely would nit stay here. If you have dogs and stay here make sure they are the quiet breed!
The surrounding area is beautiful this time of year but this motel is rather tired and old. The front desk young lady was quite pleasant but the manager Shannon is not very nice... The Holiday Inn in Blowing Rock is much nicer and almost half the price. We'll definitely stay the whole time there next time.
This hotel is very convenient to down town Banner Elk, local restaurants and all that Banner Elk has to offer. For this caliber Hotel my stay/experience was excellent. All the staff were very accommodating, polite and professional. My room was spotless. Lobby area is cozy with its fireplace.
I have stayed at this hotel several times and have always had a pleasant experience. I travel with my dog and it's hard to find a decent place to stay that also allows dogs so that is why I keep coming back.
We have stayed here twice this past summer and have been so impressed with the measures they are taking to protect their clients during this "Covid" time. After the room next door was vacated, they spent at least three hours cleaning and sanitizing it. The rooms are comfortable and the swimming pool is heated. They have adapted the breakfast buffet to breakfast in a bag. The staff is friendly and take social distancing precautions
Friendly and helpful staff. The hotel did a great job protecting their employees and guests. The lobby is pretty and the have a place for your dog to go and stay at the hotel. It's close to great food places.
The hotel is clean, it is close to all attractions specially to Grandfather mountain, breakfast was very basic for COVID-19 reasons, they also accept pets.a Food Lion is 3 minutes by car, very convenient.
Customer service at this hotel is the best of any hotel we have ever stayed in. The rooms are always thoroughly cleaned and staff is Awesome. The swimming pool is maintained daily and in perfect condition.
My husband and I stayed here for two nights. We were exploring Roan Mountain and decided this was not too far to successfully maneuver through the area. Which it was perfect and the dining selections in this area did not disappoint! We knew that the lodging was going to be basic, with the outside entrances to the room. The main lobby was nice and the check in/out were flawless. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable so again what you would expect for $100 a day. The only concerns were the doors had a small gap at the bottom, where small creatures or any bug could enter. Never had a problem with animals, but definitely any crawling or flying bug attracted by the light in the room entered and of course the sound from other guests as they hung out on the balcony, made it not quite a very good rating.
We loved the location, easy access to Beech Mountain, Sugar Mountain, Boone, Blowing Rock and Grandfather Mountain. Downtown Banner Elk is super small but great food. The beds were comfortable, the room was super clean, front desk staff was very helpful and friends. Best of all this hotel is dog friendly. We would definitely stay here again.
Our group remarked how each room was extremely clean and well maintained. The staff has done all they can to ensure precautions are consistently applied. We missed the hot breakfast buffet from years past, but made do with the grab and go option. We will select this hotel again. Thanks for a great stay!
We received a call the day before to inform us of their covid protocol. Only one person to check in and that they would charge our credit card the am of of arrival. Bagged breakfast, which we were fine with. I have never heard of being charged before arriving unless it was a prepaid rate, which this was not. We chose this because we wanted to stay in Banner Elk instead of Boone. Upon opening door we were hit with an awful smell. We tried airing out room, but then bugs came in. AC would go on and off, so we were either hot or cold all night. They only have two double beds, no king or queen offered. They did have a fridge and microwave. I would not recommend or stay here again. People working there were nice and helpful. Couple ahead of DH did not follow protocol.
Stayed at the Lodge at Banner Elk Best Western for a day snowboarding trip. From the front desk attend to the General Manager all the staff were friendly and accommodating to our requests. We will return next season!
Weekend family trip snow tubing for my youngest son's birthday. Hotel was good & had a one night stay which was the reason for the hotel. The one thing that bothered me is when we left that morning my child had forgotten he placed his wallet in the drawer of the nightstand. We were an hour or so into our travel home when he told me & I immediately called the hotel. I described the wallet & she said they had found it. My child was extremely happy & he also mentioned he had his $25 dollars of Birthday money in the wallet. I paid for the wallet to be mailed & mentioned he had $25 in it, hoping the wallet would arrive with it still there. It arrived but of course, his bday money was not there. I appreciate them sending the wallet back, they could have easily said they hadn't found it, I was saddened to know someone had taken a child's bday money. Unfortunately, this was a lesson learned by a child who knows now to never place his things in the drawers at hotels & people who take things that are not theirs must be in more need of it than we are.
We enjoyed our stay at Best Western! We slept great in a very comfortable bed and were not disturbed by noises from other rooms. Each day we enjoyed a filling & hot breakfast before we hit the slopes - it was wonderful!!! We look forward to bringing our children with us next time.
As always our stay at best western in banner elk was pleasant. Proximity to skiing is great. They are great with pets. Breakfast was hearty, perfect start to a day on the slopes. Miss the restaurant though.
Nice clean hotel. The town of Banner Elk was friendly and enjoyable. Great pubs and it is a close drive to Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain to ski and enjoy the pubs. We stayed in a condo the other nights in Beech Mountain called Pinnacle Inn. It was easy to rent all ski and clothing apparel needed. A must do trip and so many people from Florida were visiting as well.
Very enjoyable stay. Entire staff were polite, courteous and professional. Rooms were more than adequate and price was very competitive. Pet friendly and accommodating and breakfast amenity was excellent!
The pictures online were the same as when I got there. All them employees were great. The breakfast was great and plenty of options. I would definitely stay there again if I make it back to north carolina.
Supah nice stay. Conveniently located between Sugar & Beech Mountains. The breakfast is fabulous with plenty of options to suit everyone. Hickerman's and Puerto Nuevo are awesome dining options that are close by for lunch or dinner. See y'all soon. -Cap
The hotel location is perfectly nestled between all the major attractions, and features a wonderful view. The staff is so welcoming, and full of warm hospitality! The rooms are squeaky clean, and cozy
My best advice is don't ever stay at this property. The staff was very polite and hospitable. That's the only good thing I can say. The hotel itself should be bulldozed, the rooms are small and the bathrooms are smaller. Our tub faucets dripped constantly and this had been happening for awhile because the tub was stained from it. We had two full size beds that seemed to be quite old, as well as the bedding. The dining room is filled with a mix of yard sale furniture and folding, plastic card tables. The free breakfast was not very good although the young man tending the dining room was very nice and attentive. We did however get to listen to the kitchen staff practice their profanity while we were eating, as did the young kids at the table next to us. I've stayed at dozens of BW properties across the U.S. and this is by far the worse. It's an embarrassment to the Best Western brand.
Conveniently located between Beech and Sugar mountains. Quiet and not in the middle of downtown. The front desk was very welcoming and helpful. The room was very clean and well appointed. We will be back.
THIS PLACE HAS BEDBUGS. LET ME REPEAT MYSELF. B E D B U G S. My boyfriend and I stayed here on December 12, 2019 in room 108 and we checked out the same day because we found bedbugs crawling all over my bed. The staff reacted with NO shock and gave little apology to the fact that our bed was covered in bedbugs. I would not have even noticed them before my boyfriend squished one and blood oozed out. The hotel seemed clean so I did not feel any compelling reason to check the mattress or to believe that this was even possible. Housekeeping came to confirm that they were, in fact, bedbugs. I promise that this actually happened, and trust me, it was a nightmare. We checked out, drove the 3 hours back home, and I am still waiting for a refund from the third party I booked with. My boyfriend and I both have bites all over our bodies from taking a nap in the bed during the day we checked in. Our vacation was ruined and came to an abrupt end before it could even begin because of this hotel. Please, for the love of god, do not stay here. I hate to leave a negative review but I feel the need to warn others.
I came in town for a wedding and had to book a last minute room at this hotel. It was very cozy in the main areas of the hotel and my room was very clean. It was convenient to great restaurants just across the street, which were highly recommended by staff.
We don't usually stay at a Best Western however this one was recommended. The front desk staff was professional & friendly. The room was spacious, clean, & had very hot water. Best feature is the amount of counter space around the sink. Plenty of space for everything plus 3 corner shelves. The down side was the bed, not the best, could be better, but passable.
A great place to be when far from home. Inviting, friendly, clean, staff was very helpful with maps and directions, made good suggestions, the decor honored the Scottish heritage, etc. etc. such a delicious breakfast and until 10am! No rushing up to eat. The rehearsal dinner party was held here and what a great job and fun for all. The gym is small but quality work out machines available! Loved this place- made the stay away from home a pleasure!
The room is spacious, with a good shower. The only problem was that I had reserved a room with a king bed and the available room was at the end of the property, at first floor, without elevator. If you have a lot of luggage it can be unconfortable, if you arrive with bad weather (cold, rain, or snow), because to reach the room you must walk some feet in open air. i don't know if all king bed rooms are in the same position. The breakfast is very good, the lobby is cozy, with a fireplace, the staff at front desk was OK. Room was very quiet.
Myself and wife stayed at this so called 3star hotel. As soon as we entered the room, there was a strong smell of spay they used. One of the light was not working. There were 4 square pillows but no rectangle pillow at all. The dark colored cloth-like floor was old and patchy. I went down and spoke with front desk clark requesting a room change. She refused to provide the same size room. So I requested that 2 of the square pillows be swapped for long pillows that we saw in other vacant rooms. She refused this request as well. It was not easy to sleep on short pillows. I had to buy long pillow from Boone Walmart to be able to sleep. I Was shocked by the careless attitude shown by front desk. Also the room never looked and felt like 3 star. Boone has many better hotels at similar price range
We came for a golf tournament and I was pleasantly surprised for a hotel that allowed pets. Usually these smell like pets but this hotel was very clean, bathroom was spotless, as was the floor. Laminate floor makes easy cleaning. Would stay again
Overall, I was happy with the experience. Beds and pillows were too hard for my liking. Bring your own pillow if you want comfort. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast started on time and I was happy with the selection and taste of the food.
We only stayed at this property for one night. The room had two double beds which were comfortable, and the room was well kept. The outside was clean and the breakfast was good. We would stay at this property again.
We stayed here for 5 nights and just used it as a place to rest our heads after a long day. It was perfect for this. Everything was clean, which was the most I'd hoped for. If you get a room next to somebody you will be able to hear everything they do through the wall. The hairdryer didnt work in our room and the shower dripped but for our purposes we didn't care. The breakfast was actually very food. Overall it was average and dated but clean and a good place to stay if you don't plan on hanging out at your hotel all day.
Banner Elk is not mainstream metropolitan by any stretch. We chose it because of it being "out of the way", and we were not disappointed. The hub of Banner Elk is a short drive, which is a bit tricky when making it for the first time in the dark - but worth it. We chose to dine at Sorrento's. The chicken picata was declared to be the best ever, and the entire staff was quite accommodating. Thanks, Rachael! You rock!
The Banner Elk Lodge was our last vacation location for of our four BW Hotels in eight nights. The hotel was right in the middle of the mountain activities. The check in and dining areas very impressive. Our stay met all expectations with the professional and courteous staff.
The staff was so warm and friendly. Take your time and enjoy the breakfast! The atmosphere is very comfortable, especially because I hate when hotels have the glaring bright lights first thing in the morning but this was warm and inviting. Check out all the options on the buffet, the food is just amazing.
My husband and I are reward members and usually try to stay with BW when possible. The Banner Elk location was one of the older properties we have used, but was clean and well maintained. The staff were friendly, the beds and pillows were very good and the location was convenient with plenty of parking. The breakfast area was clean, well stocked, and we enjoyed the fact that it was served until 10:00 am. The only negative I have is the water pressure in our shower was not as good as we would have liked. This is certainly not a 5 star property, but if you are looking for a nice, clean property to spend a few nights, I recommend you give BW Banner Elk a try!
Booking late for parents weekend, we were left with few options in Boone~we took what was left and hoped for the best! Before arrival, the hotel called to say they were having trouble with my card~we were glad they didn't cancel us, but went out of their way to contact us. Room 251 was practically new! Clean and fresh. Comfortable mattress. Even the remotes were clean and in sleeves, ready for the next guest! Passwords and Wi-Fi logins were tucked into our room key envelope. We would definitely stay here again~but maybe for a destination other than Boone. Thanks Best Western. You delivered.
The room was totally adequate. This is an older property that has been maintained. Although there is some wear on the furniture and such, it is fully functional. I was impressed by the outstanding water pressure on the second floor. It made for a great shower. The beds were comfortable. There is no elevator to the second floor, so plan accordingly. I had the breakfast and found that it ranked with most $100 to $150 hotels. The staff was friendly and accomodating. The one negative thing that stuck out to me was that the HVAC and plumbing were louder than I am accustomed to. All that said, I would stay there again.
We were rushed to hit the road and forgot to do our customary final check of the room - forgetting two bags. The housekeeping staff found the bags and reported them to the front desk staff, who contacted us immediately. They called us before we even knew we'd forgotten the bags! They were kind enough to mail the two bags to our house for us. All during our stay with a large group, every single person we met was cheerful and ready to help in any way. We couldn't be happier with the wonderful people working at this Best Western
Nice little place to stay on our overnight trip to the mountains. Breakfast was as expected, GOOD! We did have a leaky toilet and no other rooms were available, as they were booked up, but housekeeping left us a bunch of towels to keep on the floor. Really wasn't that bad! The manager did give me a great room discount. This is why I choose to stay at Best Westerns whenever possible! The staff are very friendly.
Excellent choice for our car group adventure! Noise a bit high as there were a lot of sports cars in our group, but no street noise, just transient parking lot noise. Highly recommend unless a more upscale place needed.
We unknowingly booked an overnight stay here while there was also a 4-day car club having an event. When we checked in, we were told we would not be able to park in front of our room because the car show had that area blocked off. Ok, no prob. When we got to the room, we realized we were in the middle of the event. Again, no prob really. Older men drinking beer sitting in front of our room and standing around talking about their cars. We left out for the evening and when we returned at about 9pm, we found there were still quite a few people lingering & chatting in the parking area outside our door. But the real unfortunate was our unexpected morning alarm at 8am with ~50 cars starting and revving up for about 10-15 min causing a great deal of noise not to mention fuel fumes that leaked into our ground level room through the air unit. By 8:30am, most had been directed out of the parking area but needless to say this was not acceptable by two female guests who were not aware of nor had anything to do with this event. When I kindly brought this up at checkout, of course the young lady said she was sorry but it became clear that the apology was only a courtesy one as opposed to genuine. What was frustrating is I really don't think she ever got it. In fact, she told me a number of car club members had in advance requested assigned rooms away from the event, which was how we unknowingly ended up in the middle of headquarters. I could not understand why they wouldn't block off the rooms bordering on the car show parking area for participants therefore allowing guests not involved to stay in the other parts, but I was told that's not how they operate. At that point I became truly thankful this was only an overnight stay. Beyond this, the room itself was good. It was great they provided a mini-frig and a working DVD player, but we were surprised to learn the max TV volume had been pre-programmed so that we had to shut off the air unit to hear it. Our advice is to call well ahead to see if there is any event that would give reason to request a specific room location in advance. If we had known that and stayed in another part of the motel, I'm quite sure our experience would have been much more pleasant. The breakfast selection was very good and we were determined to end our short adventure on a more positive note.
Awesome service and Great price. Breakfast was excellent! Definitely will be back! Great place to spend a few days in the mountains with your family and animals too. Being that we were evacuating from the hurricane, the prices were lowered for us too! Thanks Best Western!
Service was great at this location. Called ahead to check on the availability of rooms and was told that 5 were available and one would be held for me. I arrived approximately 30 minutes later and was greeted very pleasantly. I wasn't however asked if I would prefer the 500 bonus points or the snack bag. The desk clerk was under the impression that this might be a limited offer but this is a standard for Diamond Select members to receive on each stay and has been at every location I have stayed for the two years that I have been a BW guest. Also Inside the room is a flyer encouraging guests to reuse towels in an effort to conserve water. Best Western for over a year has had a program in place as part of their rewards program called “Green Housekeeping”. The program rewards guests with a minimum 2 night stay with 500 bonus points for each day that they opt out of housekeeping. This location for whatever reason is choosing not to participate in a prominently advertised part of the Best Western Rewards website that would reward guests for doing the very thing that the flyers in the rooms are asking them to do.
This Best Western has all we needed and it was super clean. The bed was comfy, the pool looked inviting with lots of seating and the breakfast was good. We will stay here again. I was impressed with the upkeep on an older hotel.
Clean room. Friendly staff. We were meeting with family and asked to have our rooms together, but they were not. Online said pool was closed but it wasn't. Breakfast was bare minimum. Skipped it all together our Lady morning there
Great place to stay when you visit Banner Elk. Great service and friendly staff. Rooms were clean and well kept. Centrally located, a easy drive to downtown and local sites and restaurants. The complementary breakfast was very limited.
The location was excellent and met our needs. Dog fees were reasonable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was okay, but hot items were cold. Some tiles on the walkways were broken and very slick (my dog refused to walk on them). The WiFi went in and out with the signal being weak most of the time. The room was dark and there was dust under the furntiture. I feel the quality for the price was too low.
We love the little town of Banner Elk and have stayed at Best Western several times recently. The staff is excellent and very accommodating. Our AC this time didn't work as well as the last time we stayed here. Also the vanity sink didn't drain well. We love their pool area. The beds slept well. We will be back.
This clean, accommodating dog friendly hotel in Banner Elk is a jewel. The management and front desk staff are all professional, helpful, friendly and accessible. The hot breakfast offered many options and the environment was clean and catering staff friendly. There is a nice area to walk your pet.
Outstanding customer service, satisfaction from the entire staff @this beautiful hotel. I have been coming there for the last 7 years, definitely will be returning. Well worth you're time. Very impressive
It was very comfortable for the price. I would definitely recommend this hotel again. I will be back next year. The service and the cleanliness was excellent. The location was fantastic and the beds were excellent to sleep on. The room was very clean and so was the bathroom. We also had a refrigerator and a microwave in our room as well as a small coffee maker. The pool was excellent.
All of the staff at this hotel are Wonderful and the rooms are very clean The heated pool is serviced every morning and the maintenance associates take pride in their work We were so pleased with the experience of getting to know a manager who cares so much about her guests
The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The outdoor pool was sparkling clean and the water temperature was excellent and we loved being able to sit at the outdoor bar. The outdoor porch type swings were also a nice place to chill out after a long drive. We came in the area for a funeral and we definitely plan to come back for a longer stay in the future.
During our tour we had booked into this hotel as we were going to visit Grand Father Mountain. Quite a surprise as this hotel was decked out in Scottish fashion and we spent quite a time looking at all the wall decorations etc. Apparently they have Highland Games there. Such a shame they were not on whilst we were staying there. This was lovely hotel and we would have stayed longer but the weather was atrocious and we could do nothing in the area. We even had to abandon our Grand Father Mountain trip. However we take nothing away from the nice rooms, friendly staff and usual good breakfast to get you on your way. There was a lot to do including the swimmig pool so it is worth considering if you are in the area Keith C
We enjoyed the stay and the activities in the area. Our room did not get cleaned one of the days we were there. The staff did not believe us even when one of their employees came to give us new towels. Not until they did a security check on the door and found out no staff had entered our room did they believe us. This was very disappointing.
The Banner Elk Best Western is a good accommodations option for a popular area that has somewhat limited short-term options. Although the property is older, it is well-maintained. It's apparent that management is regularly striving to update. The breakfast area is large and welcoming compared to many similar places we've stayed. The absence of an elevator is somewhat of a limitation, but knowing this in advance allowed us to request and receive a first-floor room. Overall, this is a fine property that serves its market well.
Nice Place, older but in good condition, friendly staff, breakfast good, has a nice Highlander Scottish motif. the only caution is the outside tile is slick when wet. The water is wonderful tasting right out of the faucet. Would stay here again but it is not close to down town Banner Elk, which is almost nonexistent.
Outstanding location, great customer service, comfortable rooms and a great, hot breakfast.. We received outstanding customer service and help with an issue we had with our vehicle. Everyone we encountered was extremely helpful and courteous.
Breakfast was ok the room ok but think it had bugs my husband had bites all over arm and legs left after 2 days had no problems after that people very nice I will give that a 5 but hotel need work good maybe for 1 night watch for bugs
My family enjoyed our stay at this property. We did not get to use the pool because of our schedule, but it looked like a great place to relax. There were other outdoor areas to sit and picnic or relax/read. It's nice that it was pet friendly and there was a nice dog walk area. Very convenient to Boone.
Great Hotel location if you wish to go hiking, especially to grandfather mountain. Hotel staff are friendly, rooms nice and cozy and my favorite the slightly heated outside pool. Hot breakfast available however its the same thing every day so if your staying for multiple days its a little disappointing.
We stay at this hotel annually during one of the busiest weeks of the year. The structure is an older building, but it is well-maintained. Each year we see upgrades in the rooms and common areas. Check in is quick and room keys are ready upon arrival. A slow sink drain was corrected while we were out for the day. Hot breakfast is available in a dining room in the morning. A cook and helper keep the offerings stocked and fresh. There is a very good assortment to choose from. Remember your swim suit for the heated outdoor pool.
We had to be in town for a family funeral. The staff was super kind & caring from my 1st call till our check out! The rooms were very clean! I saw the housekeeping staff several times during our 1 night stay. Also the breakfast is very good & real food to hold you over.
We were there to attend a conference being held. The staff on check in were very friendly and attentive to any and all our needs. I look forward to coming back next year and staying at this hotel. I will encourage fellow attendees to stay here. The breakfast was hot and plentiful not to mention tastely.
Nice staff. Friendly and helpful. Ice machine broken and had problem with hot water. Room was perfect and staff made sure our dog was near pet area. Breakfast so so compared to other best westerns. Pool area nice. Great place for families
Was very impressed with room decor, cleanliness and comfort of beds. Lobby was beautiful and rustic. Internet worked very well. Would definitely stay again when in Banner Elk. And by the way, Banner Elk is a very nice little mountain town.
Overall we are pleased with this hotel and have stayed twice in the last 3 months dues to our daughter going to college. Overall the staff is great, pool is super nice and not overly chlorinated. I would like to see more options at breakfast but overall it is a free meal.
Check in and check out very easy. The room was nice and comfortable. Convenient location. The pool area was clean. The breakfast was okay. Not many restaurants close by but a short drive to downtown Banner Elk has several.
My sisters and I were looking for a place to stay for a 60th BD bash. Shannon, a manager did an AMAZING job of answering all my questions, coordinating tickets with a collaborative venue and communicating with me personally. I could not have been more pleased.
this hotel is convenient to beech mountain , slightly dated furniture,, bed was very comfortable , room was, nice and clean..nice quiet area ... the outdoor swimming pool was well maintained, and quite a large pool ,, breakfast was great, wide variety of items, and the staff at breakfast was very friendly ,, everyone we encountered was helpful and friendly,,,,
This was one of the hotels used for wedding guests. I usually don't like hotels with outside doors. However a few things made this better. First, we had a room facing the inside courtyard and pool, not the outside parking lot, which would not have been so nice. The room was clean and comfortable, with remotes in clean pouches. The staff were excellent and very friendly. The breakfast was nothing special but ok for one of these free breakfasts. The scrambled eggs were above average for this type, and I could get some raisin bran and yogurt too. They had a pancake bar if you are into carbs. A real nice touch was the coffee in the lobby (arabica, and reasonable taste for free!), along with a popcorn machine they kept stocked with fresh popped popcorn. Normally I would rate this a 3 star just because it is a motel with outside room access only, but they extras are worth noting and get the extra star.
The staff was friendly, but not very helpful with recommendations for things to do in the area. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was ok. Easy check in and check out. A good rate for the area.
My friend and I enjoyed our one night stay here, but I wouldn't ever stay longer than one night at this location. The room was pretty tiny. The bathroom was extremely dark and crowded. The sink wasn't even in with the toilet. Our towel holder fell off the wall. The breakfast wasn't very good. On a brighter side, the room was clean from what we could see. The beds were comfortable. And the staff was very kind. I only suggest staying here one night.
I always enjoy my yearly stay at this hotel! The staff is wonderful and the hotel is clean and comfortable. The complimentary breakfast is delicious and a great way to start the day! The location is perfect for seeing all that Banner Elk has to offer!
Hubby and I spent one night here as we were traveling on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The hotel is older, as many reviewers noted, with doors that open from the outside. We did not feel unsafe in this area, and the room was quiet, as we had an upstairs unit in the back. The facility does boast a large pool, a fitness center, and a "business center" which was basically a niche with a single computer. There is a popcorn machine near the lobby, which is a very nice touch. The breakfast area is large. We like traditional southern breakfast, so the biscuits, gravy, scrambled eggs, and sausage were just what we wanted. The quality was typical hotel fare, and the breakfast attendant kept everything filled. The room could use a bit more cleaning, but it wasn't gross. Our king bed guest room had carpet that is quite dated, and although the sink faucet and countertop have been upgraded, the tub had plumbing that reminded me of my long distant childhood. Everything worked, however, and hot water was great. FYI, this is not a particularly "walkable" property. When we travel, we like to be able to park at our hotel and walk a bit, and at this location there are no sidewalks. All in all, I have to say that this hotel has a very good staff, but everything from rusty railings to dated carpet say it is time for a major re-hab. As our stay was just over a hundred bucks, including evening popcorn and morning breakfast, the Best Western in Banner Elk does provide good value.
Too expensive for average accommodations that failed to meet expectations. "Free" breakfast not worth the price. Front desk staff indifferent to customer's needs. Avoid weekends because price doubled on Saturday and Sunday. Keep Key Card away from cell phone or you won't be able to get into the room. Request extra blankets for room (nights are cold). Check other accommodations in towns nearby that might be less expensive.
This hotel was convenient to where I needed to be. The decor in the room is a bit tired, very dark and dingy making it seem dirty which it wasn't. However, the faucet did leak in the tub. I use a walker and it was difficult to get from the parking lot into the room,I had to get over a big curb and some debris. ( Gravel and broken concrete.) .
It's a motel in every sense of the word. There's nothing flashy about the place. But I didn't encounter anything wrong during my stay. The room's AC was a bit annoying as the fan kept turning off and on in the middle of the night, and it woke me up a few times. The bed was a bit stiff for my taste. The breakfast was actually pretty decent, with a nice assortment of offerings, but overall, I'd say everything was pretty average.
Banner Elk is a quaint location. B Hotel is located in the center out the area. Staff is friendly. Breakfast was average. Room was clean. Plenty of quality restaurants in the area. Not bad for a Hotel out of season.
Room was very clean. I like it that it has a very nice restaurant attached to it. The wedding was up on Beech Mtn. So we were in a perfect spot for our lodging. Also it is close to many shops and restaurants in Banner Elk.
The motel lobby was beautiful . The guy in the breakfast area was super nice and the food was ok. The room was good nothing super over average . the kids loved the room and the area . Needs a lot of work in the walk way up stairs . Beautiful location
This was a nice place to say, close to the heart of town and close enough to everything between the cute downtown and Grandfather Mountain. We liked the swings around the campus, the greenery. But in May I would have expected the pool to be filled and ready but it was closed / drained. I guess maybe it hasn't been warm enough here yet. We weren't staying long enough to care or for me to feel like I should review it down from 5. But it may be worth knowing if you're coming in May, you may want to ask in advance if having a pool matters to you. We got a room with a king that had a nice small sitting area too next to it and a desk. So it was a well featured room for business or pleasure. Plenty of room for 2 people. I also like their A/C having it's controls on the wall with a real therm. And it has an ON function for a fan which you know is very important with hotel A/C units. Or they wake you up all night. Just FYI... the fridges are only mini fridges that don't have a small freezer compartment. That was a bummer because I couldn't keep my cooler packs frozen for our road trip.
This is a very quiet, clean property. It was located close to town and Grandfather Mountain. We would definitely stay here again. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was sufficient for all tastes.
The location was perfect for visiting the near by ski resorts and mountains. The building looks great from the outside and lobby area. This Best Western has a few things they need to work on to make it better for their guest. The pet friendly rooms need to be cleaned better, under the beds the floors were covered in pet hair and dust. The beds were fairly comfortable and the laminate flooring was a nice touch. The complementary breakfast foods and choices rates poorly in my opinion, also for a breakfast thats suppose to be included with your stay at their hotel, guest shouldn't feel obligated to tip money (there was a tip jar infront of the breakfast table) for the staff. The rooms refrigerator didnt work and the rooms key reader didnt work very well, the key cards are easily demagnitized. In my opinion it's only a good stay for a couple of nights.
The Lodge is a short drive from the Sugar Mt. skiing area. If you leave about 9am there is usually good parking at the ski lodge, so staying here is a bargain compared to rentals up on the hill itself. The BW Mountain Lodge had two queen size beds and sofabed. The room is large, and we enjoyed the ample heat! It is cold in the mountains this winter. The bathroom is also large with plenty of hot water and good lighting. Breakfast was better than average, with fresh fruit in addition to eggs, cereal, pastries, etc. Good family friendly place!
Beautiful hotel. Rooms are a little outdated but clean and staff was so friendly. Breakfast had many choices so we didn't leave hungry. Definitely a great location for ski options. They recommended a great restaurant for us that was reasonably priced!
We have visited Sugar mountain ski resort in the past MLK long weekend. Sugar mountain ski resort has a few slope side rentals - however, unless you reserved several months earlier, you will not be able to get the best locations - most left rentals were near mountain top and you have to ski down. My wife could not ski so we could not use those rentals. The best western charged us a fraction of the slopeside rental, also offer free breakfast. The overall service was great. We will reuse this place in the future.
It seems like all the hotels in this area are fairly nice. If you've ever stayed at one of the Walt Disney World All-Star hotels, this was pretty much the same. It's a basic room with two queen beds, television and refrigerator. It was very clean and very quiet. The main building lobby is nice and the breakfast was eggs, sausage, and biscuits and gravy. Pretty good! No complaints!
Very friendly and accommodating staff during our long weekend stay. The weather was a little wacky unfortunately misting rain one day, snowing the next.... but overall we made the best of our trip. Including our family dog
Everything was very good. I was pleasantly surprised by the accessibility of this room. The wheelchair accessible bathroom was really big. The staff were very nice and helpful. I gave it a 4 because the breakfast was just ok. Also, I could hear the neighbors next door when they checked in in the middle of the night, talking loudly. Would revisit. Loved the convenience of being just a few minutes from Sugar Mountain and ski rental locations.
This is a typical 1960's motel. Rooms are size wise OK, clean, bedding thin, heater works well. Breakfast has lots of choices. The hot items are OK. The staff is agreeable and responsive. The price is good except on the weekends during ski season then it jumps 50%! Location between Banner Elk and Tynecastle makes getting to good food easy.
Great location to stay when skiing Sugar/Beech. Very close to several good restaurants in Banner Elk. Breakfast isn't the greatest but it is OK. Room was very comfortable with very good beds. TV channel selection was good.
This is our second time staying here, and plan to make it an annual stay. The hotel offers Christmas tree package that we take advantage of. The front desk clerk was very friendly and welcoming when we arrived, and our room was available immediately. The lobby with the fireplace going is very charming and cozy. We stay in the suite, and walking in is like coming into someones living room. The decor is very in tune with the mountain area, has nice homey touches and is very relaxing & inviting The room is spotless, and the bed and pillows are wonderful. The breakfast attendant was pleasant and helpful. A wonderful and enjoyable stay.
The Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I really appreciate the fact that they have catered breakfast with "real" freshly made scrambled eggs. Just know they only start serving at 7:00 if you are there on business. Great location at a good price. Mattresses could use some upgrading
My husband and I stayed here while traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway in late October. It was easily accessible from the Parkway. We arrived late and the hotel staff was very accomodating in assisting us in locating a place to eat at a very late hour. The room was very clean and quaint. Quaint does not mean outdated - It was a mountain lodge type with a bavarian flair. My husband and I both were very pleased. The breakfast the next morning was great.
We've stayed here several times because it's easily accessible but quite, convenient but quaint and cozy, and the rooms are clean, comfortable, and spacious. We love to come up with our dog as well for fall foliage trips, etc., and there are dog-friendly rooms and an entire field just perfect for walking or frolicking pets. Over and above all of that, however, the friendly staff goes out of the way to make sure lobby coffee (and popcorn) are fresh and well-stocked, to answer any questions about local travel and attractions, and in many cases to offer up supplies which may have gotten forgotten and left out of the suitcase.
I live locally and only needed a room for one night due to some home repair. Everything was awesome, and I loved the breakfast. Nice. Clean. Friendly Staff. They even called from the front desk to make sure everything in my room met my expectations.
This place was a great location for many of the sights we wanted to see in the area (Grandfather Mountain, Blowing Rock). The room was clean and comfortable and bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was good the one day I had it.
Stayed a few days to visit our grand daughter at Lees-McRae college. Friendly staff, clean rooms, hearty breakfast provided. Only downside is no elevator. It is a pet friendly hotel, but we were not disturbed by pets and our room smelled fresh and clean. There was hot coffee 24 hours and popcorn in the afternoon for snacking.
I last visited this hotel over July 4, Went back for 4 days the second week in October. Much exterior work had been done to the walkways, which makes things look a lot better. As always, this is one of my top 3 pet friendly hotels. The staff is great, the free breakfast is the best I've seen in this class hotel, and the rooms are clean. The room block is a bit dated since it dates back a while, but it is in great shape.
We're not too happy with this BW because we had to carry all of our luggage to the 2nd floor with no elevators! My husband is in his 70s and I'm in my 60s. When I explained that we needed a first floor accommodation, the receptionist simply said no other rooms were available however we noticed that quite a few were available the following morning since their drapes were open and it was clear no one had used those rooms. Our room otherwise was OK but a bit on the VERY WORN side. Hotel needs to be renovated. Breakfast was pretty poor compared to the other Best Westerns and other chains we've stayed at.
Good location . The Hotel is comfortable but showing its age. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was clean. Breakfast was ok. Plenty of car parking. Location a few minutes from local bars and restaurants.
I stayed at the hotel with my husband and my baby boy for two nights. I think it was pretty fair value for the money. It Included free breakfast, free parking, free internet and good location. Fatimah.
We loved Banner Elk. The Best Western was central located and very comfortable. Pillows were a little too firm but that's a matter of personal preference. Will definitely return! Short trip to lots of other sites.
The Best Western was VERY CONVIENIENT to restaurants and other attractions that we wanted to see. The employees helped us with directions to all the places. We went to the Land of OZ and to the Apple alpaca farm and a gem place.
Our stay in the Best Western Mountain Lodge at Banner Elk was extremely pleasent in that our room was not only located where I requested but was clean, quite and comfortable. The employees were nice and helpful with all our requests. The food was good and there was a nice assortment.
We stayed here as part of an offer to look at property in the area. This is an older hotel, what BW refers to as "legacy," and a motor court with doors that open to the outdoors - no interior hallways here. Our room faced a charming interior greenspace with a nice heated pool and good mountain views. There was an inviting two-person swinging seat tucked in a corner of this relaxing outdoor area. The rooms opening on this side do not face the two-lane highway, and we heard no road noise, no noise at all, in fact; this was one of the quietest hotels I've stayed at. I suspect the rooms on the other side are not much louder because the wing of rooms is set back a good way from the road, to which it is perpendicular. However, it's possible things get livelier here during leaf season and especially ski season, which may bring crowds of young people. Our room of two double beds was adequate. The TV was a large flat screen with many channels. There was a microwave and fridge, and the AC while an under-window unit is controlled at a wall thermostat. At any rate, you won't need much AC up here. I don't know how well the room is heated during cold winters. The mattress was fine but the pillows not to my liking: small and overly firm. I prefer the option of a soft pillow, either down or feather or something similar. The sink area opens directly to the room; the commode and shower are in a tiny separate room with a door. The toilet seat closed slowly and softly, a nice touch, but the ring portion kept wanting to close. It took at least two attempts to get it to stay vertical each time. This BW as did another I've stayed at offers shampoo, conditioner and body wash through wall dispensers. I like that for shampoo, and had a bar of soap available as well, which I also prefer. My biggest knock on the room was the lack of any plugs or USB charging ports on the single nightstand between the beds. To plug in my laptop while propped in bed, and then to plug in my phone that is also my alarm, I had to reach awkwardly behind the nightstand. Also, the wall sockets are either cheap or old, with weak blades, so plugs wanted to fall out of them. These sockets need to be replaced. And the nightstands in every room should be retrofitted with sockets at least, and ideally USB charging ports as well. Despite the flaws the room was very clean. The free hot breakfast until 10:00 was quite good, with scrambled eggs, sausage patties, biscuits, cold cereal, muffins and more. The eating area is spacious and offers several large booths as well as tables. The staff at the front desk are very helpful. The manager on site the days we were there was particularly friendly and engaging. I should note that a substantially discounted rate was available the two nights we stayed (we paid for the second night). That made the modest accommodations seem more appealing than they might at the usual rates of $150 and up. I imagine this rises even more in leaf and ski season, as happens at every hotel in western NC. So, watch for discounts but be prepared to consider whether, at full price, the pros of this hotel - location, quiet, service, throwback charm - outweigh its drawbacks.
Truly enjoyed this as a romantic getaway with my husband. The hotel was nice and there's lots to do in Banner Elk and Grandfather Mountain. We spent time at Elk River Falls and drove the Linn Cove Viaduct.
I was in the area for work, I stayed here for a couple of nights, the staff was very nice and took care of all of my needs. The breakfast was a great way to start the morning. I will always stay here when I am in the area.
Terrific! Love this hotel. Staff were very courteous and accommodating. Had to have a rollaway bed and got it instantly. Military discount was offered and let us park our motorcycles under the overhang. This was a last minute reservation as we were traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway. The free breakfast buffet was very good and Mary took great care if us.
A great quaint location away from the busy Boone area! A short drive to Tweetsie, close to Grandfather Mountain and Linville Caverns! White water rafting seems to be within walking distance! Beautiful views driving to and from destinations that you won't get staying in Boone city limits! Check in and check out super easy and quick! Rooms comfy and extremely clean! Bed very comfortable! Pleased with the breakfast variety, with biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage, etc! I believe they have been making upgrades! We had a King room with refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker poolside! Would definitely stay here again!
This was our first Best Western stay. We were pleasantly surprised. The room was very clean and their mattresses and high quality linens were so comfortable. This was the first civilian motel that we have ever stayed in that was actually comfortable. It was like being at home. In the future, we will book our stays with Best Western!
Clean rooms, friendly staff, reasonable rates, beautiful scenery. Special requests granted with courtesy. Sink was backed up. Informed front desk. Went exploring for a couple of hours. Came back to clear drain! Will definitely stay here again!
This is an older hotel but did not miss a thing during our four day visit. Breakfast was by far one of the best. The staff is so friendly, you would think they were family. This is the place to stay in Banner Elk.
The property needs a little upgrading on the outside. As I drove up, it seemed sparse and not well kept. But, the lobby was very nice and the rooms very clean and overall property just fine. A little attention to their curb appeal would be really helpful.
This is an old, tiring property. The staff is very nice and the rooms clean. Breakfast is nothing interesting. Mary, who runs the breakfast, is very nice. Leave her a tip. WiFi reception was horrible. This alone could make you leave. Fine in the lobby but not in room 225. Beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. You don't have many choices in Banner Elk.
These reviews that I got from others did not live up to being number one in this area. Rather pay more somewhere else. Beds not comfortable Breakfast awful. But have to admit staff great. Views were great but it is only a motel that they tried to update
Although this motel does not have a great view to be located in such beautiful mountainous country, it's conveniently located. The rooms have just had new mattresses put in and although the carpeting is showing its age, overall the motel is well kept and clean. The complimentary breakfast buffet is one of the best I've seen in a while with cooked in house items rather than the pre cooked microwaved stuff you get at most. It has a nice pool with sitting area outside of the pool area that is adult friendly.
This hotel is located off the main highway for easy accessibility. The front desk was very busy because only 1 person was doing check in when we arrived. She was patient and friendly. The rooms are small and a bit dated and our room had a few rust spots in the bath tub. Definitely time to change the carpet so don't walk around barefooted. Nice breakfast in the morning but not fancy. Several options to choose from though that is helpful. Also, a popcorn snack is available in the lobby in the evening. The outside of the property is dated also with some of the slates pulled up from the walkways and rusting area on stairways. Be careful also walking on the walkway when it's wet. Very slippery. There is a nice outdoor pool and seating areas. Overall, we were pleased with our stay because it was a short visit. Would not choose to stay here for more than 1-2 nights.
This is a really unique hotel in Banner Elk. It does need some updating and I am hopeful they'll get the updates done soon, so as not to let the refreshing nature of this hotel go away. There is a beautiful pool there, nice paths to swings and a beautiful front porch on the property where you can sit down and watch the world go by. This hotel serves breakfast and if you leave hungry, it's your own fault! Hopefully, you'll be there one of the mornings that Mary is working in the breakfast hall, because she is an absolute delight. Down the hall from the reception area, you can get coffee to go the rest of the day. Each room has a wide screen television, coffee maker, refrigerator and hair dryer in your room. They have Wifi, which works pretty well. This hotel fills up for the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in July each year, so if you are planning a visit during that time make your reservations EARLY! The hotel has a bar in it and there is plenty of restaurants close by. Some even deliver to the hotel. If you are lucky, you can be there during the Highland Games dinner party and enjoy the lads and lasses dressed in their tartan. They get piped into dinner by a lovely band and it is quite nice to see everyone dressed in their finery. The hotel is located close to a lot of attractions including skiing lodges, an outlet mall, horseback riding, etc. You can find brochures for these attractions in the same hallway you find the coffee.
The staff are extremely friendly, the beds are very comfortable, and the rooms are clean. Great place to stay! We wanted to stay close to grandfather mountain on a tight budget and this checked all of the boxes.
My wife and I selected the Best Western due to the fact that the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games dinner was being held there on Friday night. It was easily accessible and one of the closer to the games lodgings that we found. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the staff, and check in was quick and easy. We then parked our car and headed to the room, which was on the first floor. I noticed that several of the tiles on the sidewalk were cracked and needed replacement, and that the paint on the walls and the underside of the second floor was in poor repair and needed to be redone. Also, the underside of concrete for the second floor breezeway was cracked and broken in many places. We went into our room, and started to unpack, and the room's decor was dated, but the bed's mattress appeared to be fairly new. All the plugs worked and the room was clean. Breakfast was served on Styrofoam places with plastic utensils and, while filling, left much to be desired. The scrambled eggs were a little undercooked, and the pancakes that they served were frozen and then microwaved to reheat them. The biscuits that they served with not warm enough to melt the butter, and I did not see a microwave to heat them. Dinner on Friday night was very good, with a staff that made sure everything was as close to perfect as possible. Checkout was easy, and promptly completed. The staff really deserves a better location, because they were the only thing that kept me from giving this location a poor rating.
The BW was far better than I anticipated. Room was clean with plenty of room for the 3 of us. Refrigerator was great - even froze our water for us. Heated pool was not crowded and very large. Open til 10pm for a late night swim. Breakfast was far better than most with eggs, sausage, grits etc. Very close to Grandfather Mountain. Would recommend to friends. Staff very friendly as well.
Very old, no updates, almost an antique save for the fact that it's really not nice. Unlike an antique it has not improved with age. This poor old motel needs either a complete gut and remodel or, preferably, a bulldozer.
I have stayed at Best Western Mountain Lodge@ Banner Elk at least 7 times. The staff is pleasant and accommodating. The breakfast served by Mary is wonderful. Nice area with outside pool. Easy access in and out.
Hotel is conveniently located. Less than 2 miles to "downtown". The lobby had a rustic decor whichI wish, would have carried over to the room. Room was clean and bed was very comfortable. Staff was very helpful with places to eat upon our late arrival.
Stayed 2 nights at the Best Western Smokey Mountain Inn Banner Elk. The Hotel was in Great Shape. Clean , picturesque! The Staff was even better! Receptionist was very accommodating and Welcoming. She made sure we felt welcomed and actually went out of her way to make us all comfortable. Would recommend anyone passing through or on their way to the Carolinas to stop over at this Gem!!
Great weekend getaway stay in the off-season. Nice room with microwave and fridge. Staff was great and courteous at all times we encountered them. Enjoyed the breakfast options as well as the proximity of the hotel to downtown Banner elk
A very excellent hotel stay! Nice clean rooms. Comfortable beds. Hot breakfast was very good with many types of food available, and staff member came around ro make sure we were well satisfied. Fitness center was good. Enjoyed comfortable front desk area for family from around the country to chat and socialize. All staff were so friendly, and helpful! Hotel located close to some of the Best restaurants in the area. Internet worked very well. Highly recommend this hotel! We will come back for sure!
I chose this Best Western because this was close to where I was visiting my girlfriend. I was originally supposed to be there around 10:00 pm. and I had called a week prior to make sure that was okay and someone was going to be there for me to check-in. A lady answered the phone and was very friendly and said it was no problem and that someone was there 24/7. Also, the day before I was supposed to arrive, I received a confirmation email which I thought was great for peace of mind. My trip down didn't go as planned. After GPS problems, Bad weather to drive in, and vehicle issues, I ended up getting there around 11:45pm. Sure enough there was a gentleman (John was his name I think) who was there to greet me and help me get checked in. I'm not for sure if he had my check-in stuff already laid out, but the process was quick and smooth. Very thankful for this hotel! Room was clean and I came back each day to clean towels and sheets. This room was priced fair and appropriately and honestly was exactly what I needed. Which was a place to clean up and sleep. I did not get a chance to check out the breakfast area, but maybe on my next trip. Hopefully in the next few months, I will be back!
My husband and I stayed here for one night. We were not disappointed in anything this Best Western had to offer! From ease of check-in to check-out, everything was great! Our room offered a king-size bed, which was very comfortable! All the amenities one would need in the room were available. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the whole establishment. It was quiet during the night with very little traffic sounds. This Best Western has very friendly staff who are willing to do anything to make you feel welcome. They also offer a hot breakfast (eggs, gravy, grits, sausage, pancakes, biscuits) and many other items as well, such as fruit, yogurt, cereal, and juices, coffee, and milk. Our breakfast hostess, Mary, was so kind and very helpful and courteous. This whole place is beautiful! If we ever need to stay in this area again, this is the place to go! Thank you, Best Western, for a lovely experience! I might add that his BW is located in a resort area, but the rates were comparable to others in the same general area. The big breakfast you get with your stay makes it well worth what you pay!
This motel is very dated and musty smelling. Glad we only reserved for one night. The mattresses we're lumpy and I felt like I was sleeping on a hump. Free breakfast was a plus, but nothing to write home about. "It filled a hole." The staff at the check-in were very pleasant and helpful. They were knowledgeable about the area restaurants and gave us driving directions to Grandfather Mtn.
The check in process went smoothly and our room was clean and quiet. We were in the area for exploring and hiking and it worked out well for us. The breakfast was good also. We would stay here if in the area again.
The hotel was clean, the staff friendly and helpful, comfortable beds and pillows, Tiki bar by the pool, cozy fireplace in the lobby and a wonderful homemade breakfast. I will go back when in the area.
Very nice place to stay for the weekend. They allow pets, have great breakfast and clean. Only downside is the beds are old and the internet not so great. Overall a great stay and will be back next time.
Great location to 2 Ski Slopes, Lee's McRae College/Banner Elk NC and Grandfather Mountain has to offer. Clean rooms and free breakfast. Stayed various times over 30 years and has been updated to meet modern needs and comforts. Cleanup Staff very prompt to any special requests.
Its an older outdoor hotel but It's very affordable and clean. It was quaint. A nice location for the area. It has everything you need. I'd stay there again, if I went to this area for a non luxury hotel stay. Bed was comfy, heat worked well, water pressure was good, towels were ok. I had a nice surprising view in the morning
A friend and I stayed here while visiting Merlefest. The accommodations were fine, but unfortunately, our room faced the parking lot. We didn't think anything of it until the morning when we were awoken by the din of several motorcycles gunning their bikes. The sound was horrendous and unbelievable! Evidently it was a routine stop for the bikers, which was fine, but I think someone should have told us to expect all that NOISE! I went to the front desk (in my PJs) and complained. They were very apologetic and offered us another room facing the pool. We had to move all our baggage, etc. to the other room. If we had only known this was a possibility, we certainly would NOT have taken a room facing the parking lot. No real harm done, and the staff was very accommodating. I'm just saying that guests should be apprised of the possibility of loud motorcyclists outside their door in the early mornings.
This room was perfect for our family of 4 who just needed a place to sleep and nothing more. The room was clean and organized, being fully stocked with the necessities. The beds seemed smaller than we expected but were still comfortable for our stay. Breakfast was excellent and service was exceptional. Would recommend to others and stay here again when just needing an overnight stay.
My friends and I had 2 rooms and we all enjoyed the cleanliness and beautiful décor. We slept well very well. I would have liked to have had a heavier blanket, and had to turn up the heater instead, but that worked out OK..
So I booked that hotel for a 4 nights family vacation because I got convinced by all the great reviews on Trip Advisor and other web sites. However, I had to check out early (without even staying one night in the room) and requested a full reimbursement for the following reasons: be aware that the rooms are tiny, the beds are only double and definitely not suitable for 4 people (there is no way you can sleep comfortably in such tiny beds with 2 people), the bed mattresses are super soft (old), and the heated pool is only opened in good season (bummer for my kids), oh and there is no elevator neither to get to your room. Anyway, the staff and manager were very understandable of the situation and they provided a full refund. No complain there, but thought I would share my thoughts on this hotel.
We have passed this hotel for for 30 years back when it was a Holiday Inn. Don't know how long ago Best Western took it over but we have never stayed there as we have a home nearby. We did last week and were very presently surprised. The rooms are of a structure that dates back to the 1970s and 1980s, typical layout with an aluminum window to the walkway under which is the heater/AC. The room was very clean, the bedding was excellent and the heating/AC revamped to make the room consistently comfortable. Nice competent staff, good very good breakfast and generally an all around experience and that includes the value for the price.
This motel is centrally located between Beech and Sugar Mountain. The rooms are adequate, vanity outside of the shower, bath room which is a requirement with my spouse.TV and Cable excellent, the room was clean with a fridge and microwave. We struggled with the mattress, actually putting 2 queens together making a high but very comfortable bed.The free breakfast was very good,Mary the server was a total sweetheart.
Booked a 3 night stay for our ski trip to Beech Mountain. Great location close to both Sugar and Beech. Restaurants and ski rentals are within a short driving distance. Recommend Highland House Ski for ski/snowboard rentals. Hotel wasn't fancy but had everything we needed. Clean room. Our room was on the first floor which was great since we were able to backup our car directly in front of our room and unload all of our stuff. Free breakfast was a great way to start the day. Mary, breakfast attendant, was very attentive and kept the breakfast bar stocked with fresh hot food. Easy check in/check out. Super friendly staff. We will definitely stay here during our next ski trip.
The staff was great. The property is older and some repair is needed. Lose bricks and tile in the back court yard, dryers out of service. The surface on the walkways is tile. It is extremely slippery when wet so at a ski mountain this is problematic. Difficult to negotiate when wet carrying ski gear. I enjoyed the lobby area and the staff were kind caring and genuine. Second trip to the hotel. The beds could do with mattress upgrades. Again aged furniture.
The folks are nice thenrooms are clean and simple. The mattresses should have been replaced 4 years ago. They hurt my wife's back. They claim they are getting new ones soon so confirm that before booking
Basic hotel that includes breakfast. The beds were comfortable and there's no parking fee. It's a five minute drive to sugar mountain. Walls were a bit thin so I could hear neighbors talking loudly at 1am. Good for a ski trip.
Went for a couple of days, nice site pet friendly. Our room was not cleaned one day, we called and the answer was they where short of personnel. Breakfast was good rooms need a little more maintenance.
Amazing place to stay if you're in for the skiing season, less than 10 minute drive to the slopes and you're right around your basic amenities. Room was exactly what we wanted for a guys trip to Sugar. Only thing is if they had more pillows available, besides that amazing trip!
Easy access to Sugar Mountain Ski resort. Friendly and helpful staffs. Room is very clean. This is our 3rd time for Winter's vacation at this location and will be back for sure. Breakfast selection is very good. But it is the same items daily. In room Wi-Fi is almost none existence. We were in 20X area.
The hotel is very outdated from the furnishings to the wall dispensers for soap and shampoo in the shower. The walls are thin too. Even the free breakfast was scary. Unfortunately, there isn't another hotel close by. We cut our trip short and went to Asheville.
We stayed at this hotel for a short family ski trip. The hotel is conveniently located between Beech and Sugar mountains, really just 5 min drive from Sugar. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the breakfast is good as you would expect from a hotel of this range. No more, no less. It has coin operated washers and dryers which came handy the third day of our trip.
average place. too much money for the quality of the place.I'l say rooms are clean an comfortable beds. don't bother with breakfast food is awful. front desk clerks are very nice. good location. needs a bar.
The best Western and Banner Elk has wonderful service, beautiful lobby, decent breakfast with many fruit options,a pool, great location but it's very important to me to have a comfortable bed and pillows. The beds are soft and uncomfortable and thick pillows. My sleep is very important to me. I cannot sleep with a fat pillow or a soft bed so I had back and neck pain from that. The beds are also the same way last year it seems they put some kind of filler in there padding or? But it's still pretty uncomfortable. The Decor was fine they have a mini fridge and microwave ice and vending machines. I do feel very safe there??
Stayed at the Banner Elk Best Western for a weekend ski trip to Sugar Mountain. The front desk agent had a welcome bag ready for us with our lift passes and info for skiing. Lobby was well appointed with Scottish themed decor. Location (quick 1.5 mile drive from the slopes), room comfort and service were great. Overall, extremely satisfied. Only negative is there weren't many convenient outlets in the room for phone charging.
This hotel was very clean and the front desk help was welcoming and friendly. We stayed here for the first time, and would definitely return again. I highly recommend their Christmas tree package. They offer up to a 7' Christmas tree at a local tree farm, a 10% discount coupon for a local restaurant, a gift bag with those items along with cookies, a candy bar, chips, water, hot chocolate and hot apple cider packets. Also, free popcorn is available in the lobby in the afternoon. Feather top mattress made for a very comfortable night of sleep!
Beautifully decorated, clean, and inviting. Would highly recommend this lodge. Very lodge feeling! The reception area was decorated in rustic charm with a beautiful Christmas tree. seasonal lighting, and rustic decor. The pool area, while closed down, had a nice log bar with log bar stools and a rustic feel. Rooms were clean and beds felt like they were feather beds. Quiet, and had a wonderful nights sleep.
We went to Sugar skiing and stayed at the Best Western. We don't usually like Best Western's but this one was a step above any one we've seen. They have nice wood look floors in the room so skiers aren't getting carpet, nasty. The vanity was granite, shower clean and well kept. I would highly recommend this for a clean place to stay. The breakfast was ok but they could add to their selection. Oatmeal would have been a nice addition for a cold weather resort or a waffle machine. But having said that there was still a selection of cold cereals, eggs, toast and breakfast meet.
Now a days its difficult to find places hotels, motels, homes, etc that are Pet Friendly for Large Dogs. The Best Western was more than obliged to honor our request on short notice. After cancelling a Valle Crucis location due to the size of our dog the BW at Banner Elk was more than accommodating and welcoming. They took care of additional requests for my wife's 60th birthday (Champagne, Glasses, Cake, and Card). Our room was within steps to a dog exercise yard and our vehicle. I'm a serious coffee drinker and they provided free coffee for my room. Their buffet breakfast was very nice. Hats off to Shannon and her staff.
My family had rented a home in the area for the weekend and somehow accidentally showed up a day early and were left without a place to stay for the night. We ended up at this Best Western in Banner Elk by default. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice, clean and comfortable it was. The lobby was warm and inviting, the staff was friendly, and the rooms were updated and had more amenities than we expected. We had a very pleasant stay.
My mom and I needed some time away from home so we booked one night stay. It was a beautiful location and the lobby of the hotel is so pretty and loved the fireplace. Staff was very friendly, rooms were good and clean but the beds could use some work. My bed was higher than my mom's bed and couldn't figure out why. The bathroom was clean but the toilet was old and it would run for 30 minutes and the shower faucets need replacing I barely got enough water for a shower most of it was going down the drain from the faucet and not the shower head. It was room 210 and if those little things were fixed it would be an awesome stay! My mom and I still had a good time. They even have a swing to sit in which my mom and I did and have pick nick tables. The breakfast was really good and the lady who takes care of it is so nice. Would stay there again.
Nice, clean hotel. on our first stay internet did not work. On our way back we asked for different room and internet worked fine. There were many options for breakfast. The beds were very comfortable.
This hotel reminds me of a roadside hotel that is stuck in the '70's. The facade of the hotel is fitting for the mountain region where it is located. but the immenities are not a good value for the prices charged for the rooms. The beds are too soft and do not provide a comfortable rest. The building infrastructure is not up to date. I don't mind paying more if the quality of the hotel merit an up to date room. On the other hand the common areas are pretty and the rooms are clean and well cared for with updated decor. The staff is extremely friendly and provide exceptional service. The breakfast buffet is pretty typical hotel breakfast offering. The mechanicals are where Best Western missed the mark at this site. Given my experience, I would rather choose a hotel in Boone, NC or rent a home instead of staying in this hotel for nearly the same value, in the future.
This Best Western offers your basic room. Microwave, fridge, spacious bathroom counter which I really appreciated. Something I had never seen before: instead of the little bottles of shampoo, etc., they had dispensers on the wall for soap and lotion in the outer bathroom part and a dispenser on the wall of the tub for shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner. I'm sure it saves a lot of waste of little bottles in the landfill, but it took some getting used to. The breakfast was very good, pancakes, eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy every day. The attendant Mary was very friendly and went around and spoke to each person in the dining room while still keeping up with the service. The dining area was large which was good, as there were a lot of people staying there. All the rooms are outdoor corridors, two floors, no elevator, so if steps are a problem, request a first-floor room ahead of time. There are a number of restaurants in the area and a grocery store, so you won't be hungry. One main problem: I was not able to connect to the internet and had to call tech assistance. He had trouble, too, but I finally got the connect page, but both my phone and iPad issued a warning "Forget this network!" I have never had this message before, but I would not connect then, so I had no internet except for using the guest computer downstairs one time to check my email. I don't go on vacation to surf the net, so this was not a deal-breaker, but it was a little disconcerting to get that message.
We spent 3 nights and really enjoyed everything about our experience from Breakfast with Mary to any requests (very few because they have thought of everything) of any one in Guest Services. Very relaxing. Convenient location. Love the warm and cozy feel right down to the fire in the main area. Excellent for pets as well!
This is one of the nicest Best Westerns we have stayed in...The rooms were roomy and comfortable, lobby was very welcoming and the price was good....we were there in October and the fireplace in the lobby was always crackling. The breakfast was very good, a lot of choices and very nice staff checking on things to make sure we were satisfied. Location is great for sightseeing all the local mountains and places of interest. Would certainly stay again . You can't go wrong at this place !
This is our home away from home. We love the people and we love Best Western Mountain Lodge at Banner Elk. Our Room was great . Very Clean and the housekeeping staff was wonderful. Front Desk could not have been nicer.
Banner Elk is a very small town. The draw for us is that our daughter is a student at Lees-McRae College there. Best Western Mountain Lodge is one of the few places to stay and we have been very pleased. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and well-appointed with microwaves and refrigerators.Staff has always been lovely and more than welcoming. Disappointed when we can't get a room there.
Our family booked a room for the woolly worm festival. The room was small with 2 double beds, but was cozy . The front desk staff were very welcoming upon our arrival. In fact the entire staff including house keeping were very friendly. There's a fitness room on the property as well as a pool and outside bar for the warmer months. We enjoyed the fresh hot popcorn located behind the front lobby. The hot bar buffet for breakfast was very tasty and the breakfast crew were attentive. Very enjoyable stay.
I stayed in a King room. It was clean, with a sofa which is nice as it gives another place to sit other than the bed. The rooms are "outies" if that makes a difference to you. Lobby has leather sofas for sitting, coffee and a popcorn maker. Tea bags and hot water in the coffee area would be a nice addition. Breakfast basic but well done. Microwave and frig in the room. Pool area looked nice but was closed (late fall). For the money, it was fine.
The hotel was very well kept inside and out! Neat and tidy, clean and well supplied. All staff was very professional in conduct and appearance as well as skilled! Very nice overnight stay! We found our room easily after an efficient check in.
We had a pleasant stay at this property. We were up to visit family and take in the fall colors, so we didn't spend much time at the hotel. Be sure to find out the bed size if you get a double. The "full/queen" are rather small. Breakfast was nice and the staff was friendly. The room was clean and well maintained.
This is the second time I have come to this Best Western. On both occasions, I requested a room with a king size bed. On both occasions, after making the reservation months in advance we were told they didn't have a king room and we would have to settle for two DOUBLE beds. It wouldn't be so bad but on both occasions the beds were old and uncomfortable. The pillows were flat and just overall disappointing. We will be finding somewhere else that is more modern and has more amenities like beds you that are the size you request and comfortable.
Beds were old, saggy, squeaky and had no support. Pillows were absolutely flat. Shower had no pressure and the temperature fluctuated. The electrical outlets did not work as we could not charge any of our devices. The door threshold was missing; I had to ask the front desk to have maintenance add one. We had a broken table in the room. The 5 inches of dust on the light fixtures really set the mood. Sub par accommodations all around. I have stayed at Best Westerns before but this was absolutely the worst. Their customer service is lacking people skills...absolutely atrocious. Stay away!
Great value and staff very helpful during our 4 night 5 day stay. It is most convenient location for Grandfather, Sugar, and Beech Mountains and not too far from Boone. Local restaurants were near and very good variety.
Hotel could use some upgrades. Dripping hot water faucet in tub along with a constant unpleasant smell in bathroom. Staff not overly concerned at checkout. Breakfast was very good and good variety. Best part of our stay was Mary in the dining room every morning. Friendly, helpful and polite.
Very friendly check in, motel very nice and comfortable outdoor area very useable, shade tree to read under. did Not like added mattress on bed too soft.forget it I do not work there you ask for my opinion then want me to keep writing, should I now make up stuff to get enough words for you?
Room let in outside noise and noise from next-door neighbors and upstairs neighbors. Door between rooms (!) did not close completely on our side; fortunately, our neighbor's door did. "Coffee-maker" did not work and was a one cup machine (not a k-cup). Water inside was oily looking. Mattress cover was supposed to give extra cushion but was lumpy and did not cover the mattress to the edge. I've paid less and had a lot more comfort at a Hampton Inn near a large city. I guess this is what you get for the price in the mountains during leaf color season.
This is an older style property with access to the rooms from the outside. It's two stories and does not have an elevator. They do not have queen size beds and only a limited number of rooms have king size. We did not know the above information until we arrived. I voiced my displeasure with having to carry my bags from the parking lot to our room that faced the courtyard and pool area. The desk clerk offered to have maintenance help with our bags. While we were considering the offer, she made a better one. She upgraded us to a easy to access king suite at no additional charge. Our room was clean. The carpet appeared to be new. A fresh coat of paint would improve the appearance of the room. Breakfast was served in a large room with adequate tables and booths to handle the morning rush. Breakfast was the typical assortment of hot and cold items.
This Best Western is clean, comfortable and with helpful staff. The complementary breakfast is better than other BW properties I have stayed at as well. It is convenient to Banner Elk restaurants as well.
We were very displeased with our recent stay. Breakfast was excellent, but other than that, nothing to write home about. Overpriced for what you get. Shower was terrible. Heating unit was very loud and the Internet was spotty.
A nice place to stay with a decent rate after traveling through the mountains on a motorcycle all day, especially since it is the only motel in a small city and we had no reservations. We had been enjoying our ride in this beautiful area so much we decided to push on toward the Blue Ridge Parkway without realizing there would not be many accommodations once we got there. And when it gets dark in the mountains, it is very dark. We were very happy to see this Best Western and were greeted by a very nice, helpful clerk who gave us a discount but did not tell us about the extra taxes we were not expecting. All in all, it was a very good experience.
This is a beautiful hotel in the middle of the western North Carolina mountains. The stone fireplace in the lobby area is so pretty, and the rooms were spacious and very clean. This Best Western is pet-friendly, too! It would have been nice to have the washer/dryer working, but that's just an extra that I easily did without. The towels and sheets were wonderful, and the room itself was spotless. This is a great hotel!
Very pleasant stay, staff friendly & accommodating. Lovely rooms for special occasions. Ambiance of the Scottish Highlands. Would definitely return. Very quaint area, lots to see and do especially for the outdoors person. Hotel surroundings are scenic, everyone friendly.
We pulled in on motorcycles on a crisp fall afternoon. Went out to test the pool water - it was like a wonderful warm bath. The staff at check in was friendly, the rooms were clean and pretty and the parking for bikes is great.
This is a large facility, laid out in a square with a large courtyard in between. You walk a good distance from the furthest away rooms to the lobby and most of it is out in the open without protection from the rain. The ice machine is also very far away from the rooms in the back of the facility. I'm glad I like walking!! Our room was nice and clean and had plenty of space. It included a good size refrigerator and microwave and a very large TV that fit the size of the room. The mattress was nice, with a feather bed on top (something you don't find anymore) that made things a little cozier. However, the pillows were lumpy foam that were far from comfortable. I sure wish I had remembered to bring my down pillow this trip!! There was a good size sofa in the room and a great charging station on the nightstand adjacent which had two outlets and two USB ports. I could hear voices from the guests in the room next door as there was a pesky adjoining door that let sounds easily pass through. I know it was just bad luck as the folks in the room adjoining mine may have been a group of friends on a boisterous weekend getaway! They have an old fashioned popcorn machine in the lobby and they make popcorn in it every afternoon. It is nice and clean and ready to go the next morning. This popcorn is in the hallway that leads from the lobby out to the courtyard. Breakfast was nice - they had some of the best OJ I have encountered at a hotel in a long time but the coffee was very weak. I did not find any oatmeal or bananas which I would have enjoyed. I liked the sausage, gravy, eggs (real eggs by the way) and biscuits.
We live in Florida and we were escaping the hurricane. Best Western Mountain Lodge was so accommodating! They waived the dog fee because of our situation. Breakfast was good and they had a pet walk area. The location view is absolutely beautiful. Thank you Best Western for being so helpful and hospitable. Will stay here again!!
We were forced to evacuate and had a pet with us. We did not have much notice and were not sure how long we would have to stay. The staff was great and the hotel was very clean, accommodating and pleasant. Great location as well. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a pet friendly hotel.
The room was quiet, We brought two dogs which was alright with the hotel. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. No request was too much trouble for them. There was a good place to walk the dogs with a cleanup station. Breakfasts and coffee were very good. Beds Comfortable. Would come back again.
We stayed one night here, but wished we had time to stay longer! Super clean rooms, extra comfy beds, heated pool! We will definitely return here! We were in NC for the Land of Oz autumn festival. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful.
Hotel is very well-maintained. Grounds are very well kept as well. Staff is very nice and helpful. We've stayed here multiple times when working in the area and have no complaints whatsoever. For the price, this is a very good choice for the area.
The hotel was clean, staff pleasant, room and bed very comfortable, breakfast was more than variety than expected - scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits & gravy, with other pastry, bread and cereal options. Everything was cooked to perfection and everything had such good flavor! It was a very pleasant experience and I would recommend staying here for your next vacation in this area.
My family and I escaped dealing with Hurricane Irma and came up to Banner Elk. The Best Western in Banner Elk was a great place to stay for us! The staff was very nice throughout our stay and accommodated us in many ways. Breakfast in the morning hit the spot! I would recommend this hotel to anyone and I would stay here again as well!
Beautiful all around view from the hotel, the stay was comfortable and nice, breakfast was nice, check in and check out was fast, helpful staff, room was clean, only the room wifi had a very weak signal.
Made reservation in advance came into a clean room with treats for our small dog friendly staff clean and safe. Most likely will stay there again! Would say to dog owners a great place to stay. breakfast was normal for a hotel of this type and included
I don't think I've ever seen a room so small. We were in the handicapped room because that and a pet friendly room was all that was available. I'm not sure how a wheelchair would ever get around in this space. The bed was no comfortable. One a brighter note - The hotel was in a good location and front desk ladies were very friendly.
Perfect spot for our trip. Staff was very helpful with directions and breakfast was great. The restaurant they suggested had outdoor seating with a live country band. Delightful. The surroundings of the hotel can't be beat.
Very polite staff. I knew I was in the South being called Honey and Darling often. 2nd floor room overlooked the pool and was clean and comfortable. Fridge and microwave in room. Variety of restaurants and ski slopes minutes away. Blue Ridge Parkway and Viaduct also close.
Best Western Lodge at Banner Elk has is very pretty, swimming pool heated, & great View! Also, plant nursery a close walk with beautiful plants, tress, & local made items. Grocery store & Restaurants close bye just around a sharp curve or two. Nice time & great staff!!
The hotel was excellent in ever way. We really enjoyed our stay. The young lady at the front desk was exceptional. Comfortable rooms and great service. Excellent location with great views. We will be back.
We went to the area to tour a working alpaca farm the next day, making no hotel arrangements. This place was an inexpensive and quiet place to rest for the night. The staff was super friendly. I would recommend this hotel to any and all people needing a place to rest.
Albeit clean enough, the room was small & old. As long as you don't require anything fancy I would stay here again. Bring ear plugs since the walls are paper thin. It's pretty close to Beech Mountain, so that is a plus, and w/ all the ski gear I guess they don't want to damage to their furnishings, but we were very careful. As business professionals we understand the importance of caring for others property.
Spent a few days here on vacation. Staff very friendly and accommodation good. A decent range of items for breakfast although the coffee did not seem to have been shown any coffee beans when it was made.
This hotel is a standard looking hotel. Most aspects were fine. But noise coming from either the next door room or people smoking outside kept me up until 2AM on Saturday night. I was here for business so needed my sleep. I did call about the problem and it still went on for an additional 2 hours after I called.
This hotel was topnotch from the check-in process until leaving the facility. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and quiet. It felt like home and I highly recommend them to others. The breakfast was an added bonus and I appreciate the overall experience.
We always stay at this hotel when we visit our daughter who goes to Lees McRae. Staff very friendly. Only thing that could have been better were queens instead of double beds ( but we still fit fine) and breakfast was average. But the lady in dining hall was very nice and kept it very clean. This is the only place I stay when I visit Banner Elk.
Nice place for the money. Nice area. Pretty drive. Pet friendly. Heated outdoor pool was a plus with those cool mountain breezes, even in August. Could use a deep clean and a little updating, and the breakfast could be a little fresher and tastier.
this hotel was very disappointing. the rooms were outside entry. room was dirty and smelled. matresses need to be replaced. pancakes and coffee at breakfast were cold. would never recommend this hotel.
My family stayed here a few days ago. I highly recommend this hotel. It is an older property with a 1960's-1970's design, with the pool in the center and doors opening to the outside. With that said, the hotel is extremely well-maintained. The breakfast was freshly prepared and better than what we find in most chain hotels of this size. The staff was very helpful to us and met all of our needs. Banner Elk is a quiet hideaway in the mountains. The Best Western Mountain Lodge is a great place to stay when there.
Wonderful! Affordable, amazing view, really cute lobby and pleasant breakfast. I will be back. Down town Banner Elk was a sight you can't miss. Hotel staff were very friendly and gave you a list of all the local restaurants with phone numbers and times.
Friendly staff, clean hotel, updated. Nice swimming pool. Everything worked well. The best is the bed with the pillow top mattresses...we felt like we were sleeping on a cloud. I would recommend this hotel to anyone needing a clean and comfortable room. All rooms have a hairdryer, ironing essentials, coffee pot, soap/shampoo/lotion pump in both vanity area and bathtub. Has large screen TV, microwave and refrigerator (no freezer). Nice room and view of courtyard/pool.
Very comfortable and clean rooms. Helpful staff. Breakfast average like most motels that offer breakfast. Good location for touring the area. Nice motel but gave it an average for value because of the price of the rooms, especially on weekends.
We were visiting Lees-McRae college on Saturday and decided to go up the night before. The staff was friendly, the room was clean and comfortable and we enjoyed our hot breakfast on Saturday morning. Would stay here again.
We had wonderful service, nice clean room, and a good but ordinary hotel breakfast. A very nice pool area. A good hotel quality for the price.! We were very close to many other restaurants and convenient to town.
This is an average hotel. Sleeping was average, Food was average. Pool is the best part. It was big, clean and a great temperature. Kids loved it. The full size beds are small and the frig was not working. Lighting was low in the room but overall it did the job for the one night we stayed.
Always enjoy staying there. They are like family at this location . The rooms are very clean and the bed are very comfortable. The fbreakfast is very good and the breakfast service is exceptionally the best ever
After a long day we checked in to find out this is a MOTEL and not a hotel. With that in mind, I felt the price of the room was way to high for what it turned out to be. The room appeared clean but the lighting was VERY dark. There was a party going on at the pool (just below our room) which prevented anyone else from using the pool area. Relaxing was impossible because of the noise (at least until the party ended at 8:30pm). The bed was a whole other issue. There was some sort of padding on the bed, that didn't really fit the mattress, which caused you to feel like you were rolling off of the bed unless you were right in the middle of it. There were plenty of pillows available although they felt like chunks of foam and were very uncomfortable. The bathroom area was also dark. The shower pressure was hard enough to peel off our skin but kept running hot and cold. The only decent thing about this place was breakfast. Mary was very personable and extremely helpful.
We stay here every year in June we come for a family reunion. We have always had a great experience. The staff are very friendly and if you need something they go out of their way to help you. the morning breakfast has SO Much to choose from. The also have maps that shows where and what is in the area to see and do and eat.
This was a very friendly place to stay. Very comfortable. Good location for many activities. Good restaurants near by. Nice pool . Breakfast was very good. The staff were very friendly and helpful We would stay again.
we had a great stay. The staff were all friendly and competent. Room's were clean and well kept. Kids really enjoyed the heated pool. Breakfast was good and Ms. Mary was so nice at breakfast that she made our day better!
Rooms aweful, beds terrible, AC leaks, shower no pressure w/ alternating hot/ cold. We left after 3 nights(booked for 7). Hotel staff nice but all rooms the same so nothing they can do. The lodge part is beautiful, typical for NC.. but that's not where you relax
We had several family & friends stay several nights. Everyone was very pleased with the hotel. The breakfast area was good size and the food was decent. Looked as thought they were in the midst of remodeling when we stayed there. The area seemed safe and secure.
The breakfast buffet was the normal kind, but the lady in charge of it was super nice. Room was ok, but we came back one time to find our lights off and the TV on. We always leave a light on so we can see when we return, so this was very odd.
The Hotel was clean. The bed was very hard. They put a mattress pad on top but it really didn't help it had a lot of humps in the pad. The room itself was very clean but the decor was very old. I had a non smoking room but it had a smell of cigarettes or maybe it was just an old room smell. The staff was excellent, I think if they would do some remodeling in the guest room it would be a fantastic place to stay.
Excellent staff, very clean rooms, speedy internet, and an OK breakfast. 1. Ask for rooms in the 140's or 240's in the back. Its away from the street and pool facility and has a nice view of the hills. 2. Bring your laptop - fastest internet I've experienced traveling. I was pulling 40 meg - able to stream movies and subscription sports networks no problem. The TV channel line up at the hotel is limited (given its remote nature). 3. Bring an extra blanket - the bedding (while super clean and fresh) is quite thin and not enough to hold body heat in on those chilly mountain nights. This BW also provides a plethora of pillow options. Enjoy!
This is the best place for us to stay when we come to visit our daughter, a student at Lees-McRae College. Clean, comfortable, and convenient. Was initially startled by the soap/shampoo dispensers, but realize the economy. Like having refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee makers in room. The breakfast is better than most at similar venues. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Not fancy, but I would highly recommend it.
I loved that they had a popcorn machine for free popcorn and a car washing station. These are amenities that you don't often find. Staff was super friendly, room was clean, nice pool. Downside: no hot tub and a strip type motel. Anyone could come right up to your door. We had no problems but I feel safer in a place where you have to go through a lobby.
Anniversary get away trip. Great room for people travelling with pets. Great service during check in. Breakfast was fantastic. Would recommend to family and friends. Very clean room. Bed was very comfortable.
This hotel would have received a high rating if it was not for the chain smokers that we had to deal with. There were smokers hanging out on the balcony and leaving cigarette ash on the stone columns. The smoke was getting into our room. We took our kids to swim in the pool and had to deal with smokers the entire hour my kids were swimming. This was very frustrating for us since we did not want to inhale second-hand smoke. On a positive note the pool was at a wonderful temperature. We all enjoyed the free popcorn! The breakfast was delicious with fresh eggs. It would be nice to see some more fruit and have low sugar options for cereal and yogurt. If we could be assured that we would not have to deal with smokers then we would definitely come back.
A very nice motel, always enjoy our stay there All the staff work with the guests to provide first class service to their guests.. Cost on the weekend is a little pricey, though. So it is during the height of tourist season.
We stayed here because of all the four star reviews. This is a nice motel, but it's 3 stars instead of 4. Room was clean. Property has a lot of extras. The breakfast is the best of any motel on our 4 day trip. This motel was quiet in the rooms. Staff was friendly. I would stay here again.
Great place to stay. The staff was wonderful. Good location in the mountains. The breakfast was good and the service was excellent. The room was clean and the housekeeping staff was helpful. The grounds were well kept.
Overall, this was an average experience in an average hotel. There are updates that need to happen in terms of aesthetics, but considering the limiting nature of the location, it was fine. If you're on a budget and seek a chain, this will work.
This was the best hotel experience my husband and I have ever had. I always have to bring a container of Clorox wipes to wipe down remote controls, floors and sinks etc. but not in this room, it was spotless! They even had sterilized remotes in a bag so I didn't have to clean them! The bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in at a hotel and I loved the shower massage. The staff was super friendly, I could go on really because there were so many things we loved. My husband and I will be staying at the Best Western in Banner Elk from now on. This was our first experience at a Best Western, too, so we are sold! Thank you so much for the wonderful stay!
A group of 5 of us met at the Banner Elk Best Western (2 from Miami, FL, 2 from Harrisburg, PA and one from Little Rock, AR) to photograph the Rhododendron bloom and mountain sun rises and sunsets for a week's period. We could not have found a better or more economical place to stay. Service was great, the rooms were clean, and the internet reasonably fast. The breakfast was standard fare: grits, sausage gravy, biscuits (really nice tasty fluffy Southerner style) scrambled eggs, various fruits, breads, and juices along with hot coffee. The only compliant were the beds. They all had a feather futon placed over the mattress -- I suspect because the mattress was a bit firm. BUT, the futon was worse. It bunched up and was very lumpy. I had to have them remove mine. Then I slept okay.
Nice little town in the high country. Good hot breakfast at hotel. Clean rooms. Friendly staff. Could view Grandfather Mountain from hotel. We enjoyed our stay and we would go again. Hotel is near Grandfather Mountain and other little shops.
Me and my wife stayed here for four days, Breakfast host was one of a kind, made you feel right at home. Breakfast host Mary was one of a kind. Made you feel very welcome and like being at home. Easy access to Blue ridge Mountains. Great place to visit.
Great location for us while visiting Grandfathers Mountain. Pool was amazing. Very clean. Breakfast was good. Coffee was even better. Coffee available around the clock. Could not ask for better service from the staff
I was there on a Monday, check in was EZ and pleasant. Outside room doors are a plus for me when I travel. I booked a suite and was so impressed by the room....the jacuzzi was a welcomed site after a long day!!! Room was VERY well appointed and lived up to the "Mountain Lodge" decor. Not your usual motel room, for sure!!! Loved it... Now, the bed....got the best nights sleep in a long time. So comfortable that I had to go home and get the same mattress pad for mine. Looked like you'd roll off, but you don't. Breakfast the next morning was very good. Something for all tastes and appetites.
Satisfied with my total experience except for the single girl at the front desk that was uninviting and had no interest in customer relations. Every other staff member I encountered during my stay was amazingly kind and helpful.
great place to stay with your pet for a mountain retreat. Large grassy area to walk dogs and they provide plastic bags and a trash can in the walking area so it is very clean. Rooms have wood laminent floors incase there is an accident that are very easy to keep clean unlike some pet friendly hotels I have stayed in that actually had carpet on floors,YUCK! Not the Ritz Carlton but friendly staff, good free breakfast, nice rooms and easy to get to attractions in the area.
The staff was Wonderful. I would stay there again. The only problem is I thought we were getting queen size beds to sleep on. And it was twins. Still was not a major problem. The area is beautiful. We didn't use the pool because it was still a bit cold for us.
I would and will stay at this B/W again. This Inn was one of the nicest I have stayed in.. The breakfast was like a restaurant, only self serve. The room was clean and comfortable, The B/W was easy to get to with restaurant close by
I would recommend this Best Western to anyone who enjoys a friendly, comfortable atmosphere. The beds were amazingly comfortable and the cleanliness was spotless. Coming from a retired GM from Best Western who checks everything. This one gets an A+
We stayed there for a weekend wedding. We opted for this place rather than a non-chain hotel close to the wedding venue because the mountain roads in this area can be challenging, if not treacherous and this place, although not close to the venue, was near restaurants and stores.. We usually stay at one of three other chains, but we did like this. The front desk check in was friendly and welcoming; breakfast was more than adequate; and the ground floor layout was convenient for those of us with mobility difficulties. The television worked and beds were comfortable. We recommend the place and would stay again if we are ever up this way.
Staff not honest, left I phone charger and lead behind plugged into wall behind night stand , however upon ringing and asking to have them forwarded to me , I was informed that someone would check with house keeping and then ring me back ....No one rang me back and upon calling the hotel again informed that nothing was there..!
We stayed here for one night and we were not impressed. The reasons are, The beds are extremely uncomfortable feather-top mattresses that can give you a stiff back, the feather lump in the middle of the bed made us worried about rolling off all night, The two double bed rooms do not have queen size mattresses making the beds very cramped, the toilet flusher fell off the toilet, and the breakfast did not have much regarding healthy options and was just ok at best. Well,at least the room was clean, the staff was nice, and the internet was fast. But for the reasons above, I would recommend looking for a place to stay elsewhere.
Best Western has not historically been my favorite. We came through Banner Elk late one evening and needed a place to stay. The young woman at the front desk was very kind and personable. She directed us to great little restaurant that was close by. The bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. We are planning another trip to the area in early summer and I would be happy to stay there again during our trip.
The Hotel was very nice. Clean and convenient to restaurants, shopping and great roads to ride. We were with 2 other couples. The staff could not have been more accommodating. They would go out of their way to make you feel welcome and to make sure all of your needs were met
Just a good hotel that provided me with a clean room and a good night's sleep. I really liked the location, it was easy to find and convenient for the spots I wanted to visit in Banner Elk. The staff was friendly and welcoming.
Came down for the Beech Mountain metric ride. Room was ready when we got there. Best part was they allowed a really late check out so we could grab a shower after the ride so we could get on the road. Rooms were OK, a little dated but perfect for what we needed. They opened breakfast a little early for the riders so we could get a quick bite before riding. Everyone was super nice and friendly. Beautiful scenery and really close to nice restaurants. Would stay here again!
Love staying here whenever we are in the Banner Elk area. The hotel is pet friendly and we always travel with our furbabies. Facilities are clean, breakfast is hot and tasty. We were able to obtain late checkout due to graduation ceremony at Lees-McRae college which was a tremendous help.
We were a car Club with 30 members. The staff accomodated us and provided special service. it was exceptional. Best Value in Banner Elk and certaqinly someplace wwe will return too! One cannot go wrong scheduleing a visit and stay at this hotel. Staff was very Gracious and thoughtful.
Beds should have been replaced years ago. Staff placed a pad in center of bed, it was not even as wide as the mattress to compensate for the dips in the mattress. In my room and my companions rooms also!
First, the staff is very attentive and amiable. Lobby fireplace was a warm welcome in the spring chill. The beds appeared to be very lumpy. Upon inspection we discovered a lumpy mattress topper, not a comforter. The covers were quite thin. I requested an extra blanket which was very necessary. The next morning awoke with swollen, itchy eyes feeling like allergies had kicked in. Then discovered the bed topper was down to which I am allergic. I mentioned at checkout nothing I read described the topper as down She said it was on the Web site. It's not. I then asked what recourse I had if I had been aware. They would remove it. Really not sufficient for a sensitive person. Fresh eggs at breakfast but lousy coffee. Clean. Good towels. Refrigerator didn't work, lighting very poor, broken bulb in one lamp. Oh well on allergy medication, will not visit again.
The proximity to the college is the main reason for staying here, the hosts are the next. Everyone who works here is wonderful and helpful. The breakfast is a little questionable, but you can't beat free. The coffee station is nice and popcorn during the day an added bonus. I have not been when the tiki bar is open, I would like to be there when it is.
Attentive staff. Adequate rooms. Nice breakfast room in a restaurant. Convenient location to Banner Elk. No Uber / No taxis Bathroom dispensers for soap/shampoo/conditioner are accessible to anybody. That should be changed
We were traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway and as night was falling we decided to leave the parkway and find a place to eat and sleep. We first found the Pedalin' Pig BBQ, stopped there and had a delicious bite to eat, and then looked up hotels on our phone. Found the Best Western and headed over. This was a bit off the parkway but not too far. Worth the few extra miles to stay. Our stay was excellent, we loved that our room had a couch and we were able to sit back and relax and watch a little TV, before heading to bed. The room was super clean and comfortable. The free breakfast was good, but unfortunately I did not catch her name but there was a super friendly and upbeat woman who worked there that I would love to praise for her customer service. Would definitely stay again when we are in the area next time.
Very friendly staff from check in to check out. Clean facility. Wonderful breakfast. Staff was eager to talk about area attractions even looking up directions and delivering them to our room. Highly recommend best western if you are in the Banner Elk area.
Staff was very helpful and attentive. Room was clean and well kept, but a little on the darkside. Good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Breakfast had a good variety. The location is great. Only a few miles from many attractions.
I have now stayed here twice in two years. Both times the rooms were extremely clean and the feather beds comfortable. The front desk is always friendly and ready to answer all questions. They even have free popcorn in the evening. My only complaint would be the free continental breakfast is not very good, but I have never found one I like so it must not be my thing. However, with the money you save on the room you can buy a yummy breakfast down the road!
I don't usually sleep well in motels and I have had some bad experiences with the Best Western brand elsewhere, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect in Banner Elk. My wife helped to pick it, and you know the saying happy wife, happy life. Anyway, we pulled up to the lobby to see dumpsters on one side and yellow barrier tape blocking half the spaces on the other side. Turns out they are remodeling the banquet/ meeting rooms but that didn't affect our stay at all. Found fantastic rate online and desk clerk was friendly and helpful. Due to some unforeseen events we had to extend our stay in the highlands by a day and we were able to just add one more night to the same room with no problem. Took advantage of the free papers, coffee, popcorn, and computer. Rooms and bathrooms were clean, quiet, and comfortable and we slept well. There is nothing I hate more than waking up in a motel bed more tired than when I got in it. That was not a problem here. The hot breakfast buffet alone saved us money and got each day off to a good start. Even if you only go just for yogurt and coffee, it is worth it to be greeted and fussed over by Mary. She enjoys her job and her guests and has a great sense of humor. We were out until after dark because there is so much to do in the area. Beds were made up each day and waiting for us when we got back. The only issue I had was that the weather channel and two or thee others kept going out on the tv for some reason which was annoying when we were trying to monitor the forecasts to plan daily activities. Will definitely stay here again.
Nice rooms, cozy lobby, hot breakfast. What more could you want? I wish I could have spent more time in the lobby by the fire. I was there for a hiking weekend and there was not much time to relax. This hotel does great for accommodating large groups. Thanks
The staff is very professional. Rooms are clean and neat. The beds are one if the best I have ever slept in. Very comfortable! Location is great if you are snow skiing or visiting Hebron Colony Ministries.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The facilities were clean. I don't like hotels with outside doors but this one was an exception as it felt safe and secure. The girl that checked us in walked us to our room to ensure we were satisfied because of our concern that it was pet friendly (I have allergies). The breakfast is a full buffet with lots of choices and the food was great. The lady working the breakfast was also helpful and friendly. We were pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. We will definitely stay there again.
The hotel was clean and the staff were all very friendly and breakfast was good. The beds could have been a little more comfortable; the mattress pad was uncomfortable and awkward. I was however, a little set back that they were clear that pets are not allowed. I was warned about the pet policy upon check-in, and I had to sign on a form that I was not traveling with a pet in my car or in my room. To my surprise, not once but twice, there were two very large dogs accompanying guests in the lobby of the hotel; one animal went into the food area. I'm not sure what that was all about given that I was given such a hard time upon checking in; I had no animals with me.
This is an older hotel, but nice for a rustic mountain lodge environment. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed free cups of coffee in front of the beautiful fireplace in the lobby. Very welcoming atmosphere to the area. The double beds were a bit small for us, but mattresses very comfortable.
I loved staying here and I hated to leave. We wanted to stay in Boone, but everything was booked. I'm glad we ended up here though. We had a very comfortable and relaxing stay. Breakfast was fantastic. I hope to return again and see more of this area.
Spent last weekend at Banner Elk, Grandfather Mountain and Linville Falls. BW was convenient place for wife and I, daughter, son-in-law and 2 grandchildren to stay. Overall, a decent place. Beds a little soft and could probably use new mattresses, if you like harder beds like I do. Only real complaint was that the door to the outside needed weatherstripping cause the cold air drafts were making the room cold and the heater needed to run. A little better insulation would do the trick. The full breakfast was wonderful and really good with lots of options.
I've had pretty good luck with the Best Western brand over the last year of my business travels, and so was happy that this location is even a step up from our normal stays. Staff was terrific and took extra time to get me a $25 discount (from a BW promotion). The lobby is lovely with a fireplace and comfy sofas, and the breakfast was a step up (they said it's done by the restaurant next door). One minor thing is the coffee wasn't as good as it could have been. Seemed like Maxwell House, etc if you like that, you won't mind. At least it was fresh and plentiful. They don't seem to have in-lobby coffee on tap as many BW or Hampton's do, but do have the little in-room setup. Our room was a bit larger than many we stay in, which allowed us to put my youngest son on an air bed on the floor. One note is that this is more of a motel format property (2 floors) and I imagine all the rooms ringing the pool could be a bit loud/less private in the summer facing the pool. The location is near to our destination (Grandfather Mountain) and also some really terrific food choices with Boone/App State nearby. This is an excellent choice of a BW to save a bit vs our usual Hampton Inn (and very competitive with our AIrBnB options in the area). We'll happily stay here again on our next trip to the mountains.
Very accommodating staff. Beds were comfortable. Pretty location. Close to both Ski Beech and Sugar Mountain. The entrance to Grandfather Mountain is about 20 minutes away. There's a good brewery just around the corner just outside downtown Banner Elk. Very good Mexican restaurant called Puerto Nuevo about a quarter mile down the road.
I have stayed at this hotel several years ago. I was surprised went I walked into my room and realized it was nicely updated with a very nice bed. Some kind of feather top which was very comfortable. My check in was very fast. The WiFi was good. The breakfast is the second best I have ever had at any hotel I have stayed at while traveling on business. The lady working the breakfast are was very attentive. I will stay there again when in the area.
This hotel did what we needed it to do - provide a place to sleep, breakfast, pool for the kids. It was a little disappointing for the cost. We expected more. The room was ok, a little crowded and dated. The breakfast had enough choices to make everyone happy. The pool was a little cloudy but it is heated. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
I love staying at this property because it is off the main strip The staff is very friendly and the price is reasonable.. The location offers everything you need from wineries, breweries and restaurants.
Given that there weren't many options available when we booked a room, was not setting high hopes on this hotel. The staff behind the front desk were cheerful and the lobby has a nice warm feeling. While our room was a little tricky to get to it was very clean and well furnished. The new feather-top on the bed was super comfortable. The shower was a bit difficult (maybe broken?) and didn't like to be messed with, but the water was hot and refreshing. Not the quietest hotel we stayed at this week, but no noises loud enough to keep from sleeping. Would definitely recommend to anyone staying/visiting the area.
The front desk was welcoming and the lobby cozy. The room was updated and ok. I never have seen a Best Western completely booked, but I assume that this was rate driven. We will definitely come back next fall.
Adequate, clean and safe hotel. Very nice hot breakfast provided each morning. Centrally located near Grandfather Mountain, Boone, Valle Crucis and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Hotel has an outdoor pool and great seating area in the lobby where you can warm up by the fireplace. Friendly and helpful staff.
We checked in here after a long ride that started in Florida early that morning. The lady at the front desk was pleasant and checked us in pretty quickly. We went to our room and as soon as we walked in we both just stopped and stared. The bed looked so lumpy, it looked there was stuff under the comforter. So we looked closer and pulled the comforter back and it looked like there were all pillows under the sheets! It appeared that they put pillows on top of the bed under the sheets to try and make the bed more comfy, but the bed felt like mush! We went back to the front desk and told the girl what we saw. She said it was a new bed with a pillow topper! It was the strangest thing I have ever seen! It certainly did not look like any pillow topper that I have ever seen! The girl said that most of the rooms had that type of bedding. I wish I had taken a picture of it, because describing it doesn't do it justice. She gave us another room and as we walked back to our new room, we looked in the windows of the open rooms and all the beds looked the same! The new room had the same kind of bed, so we just stayed it in. The bed was not as bad as it looked, it was ok to sleep in, not good, but ok. Other than that the room was nice. The hotel itself is in a little town, surrounded by beautiful mountains. So the views were very pretty.
This was a great fall visit to see the leaves with a beautiful view, very clean, friendly staff, FANTASTIC breakfast for a hotel and the lady in the kitchen was super nice. We've already recommended this Best Western to friends & family. It's also located near a couple of ski slopes and is not far from Grand Father Mt. (Must See) and Linville Falls, the Blue Ridge Parkway & Linn Cove Viaduct.
Just stayed here last night. Staff was very friendly! Beds slept great, rooms were very clean, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, etc... available in room. Free catered breakfast was served from 7-10 am. Besides the eggs being a little dry, breakfast was quite impressive! My only complaint was that after breakfast the showers in our rooms were out of hot water. Those in our groups that took showers earlier (before breakfast) we able to enjoy a hot shower. At night the water was fine for us. Good place to stay, just keep that in mind.
I'm happy to know about this, as I go to the Banner Elk-Boone-Blowing Rock area several times a year. My room was very clean, attractive and in excellent condition. The pool and picnic area was very pleasant, and it was very quiet back there. The staff was accommodating, friendly and professional. I also had a wonderful hot breakfast, and it was all cooked to perfection. I'll be back.
This was our first stay at a Best Western, we normally stay with another brand but the location of this one was perfect for our travels. We were pleasantly surprised at how wonderful everything was here. The room was perfect, the breakfast was amazing, the coffee was the best we've had and the price was very reasonable. This hotel was a perfect choice and we would definitely stay at Best Western again.
My son and I stayed here for 4 nights last week. It is very convenient to the parkway and Grandfather Mountain. It was a throughly great experience, comfortable beds, very clean and everyone we spoke to was so nice. We will definitely be back!!
Entered the lobby with a fire burning in the fireplace. The staff is very nice and accommodating. Soft fluffy pillows on the very comfortable beds. The towels in the bathroom were thick and of good quality. I arrived late to breakfast and Mary, the server, told me not to rush. She said, " the last person eating here should have just as pleasant an experience as the first." Very sweet lady. She made sure I had all I needed; she even offered to make me something if I did not like what was offered! I will definitely stay here if and when I return to Banner Elk.
My husband and I stayed here because it was close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Grandfather Mountain. The staff was very friendly. The facility was older but had been renovated. The breakfast and attendant made our stay even more enjoyable. The eggs were fresh and they even had grits. Enjoyed it very much.
We enjoyed our 2-night stay at BW Banner Elk. Upon check-in, we entered a very inviting lobby with functioning fireplace, tasteful decorations, and friendly, welcoming staff to greet us. We were given our choice of available rooms and chose 2nd floor (two floors in this hotel). We had a good mountain view from our room, a very comfortable bed and a very clean room. Not long after we settled into our room, we received a call from the desk to make sure everything was as we liked and were told to give them a call if we needed anything during our stay. The TV was large and in good working order. The breakfast attendant was very helpful and friendly the next morning and we enjoyed a tasty warm breakfast with options that included scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, grits and gravy, biscuits and good coffee. There are also cereal, toast, muffins/donut, and yogurt and fruit options as well. When we returned to our room after a day of hiking in the mountains, our room was cleaned impeccably and ready for us on our return the next day. We would most certainly stay here when we are in the area again!
very nice and adorable. Beautiful area!!!!Grandfather mountain has much to do at this location. Friendly people. Very nice towns near by. Very clean! Best westerns never disappoint us. Great restaurants in the area to eat!
hotel should let you know ahead of time that dogs are allowed in breakfast room where food is being served and eaten. Yuck!! I like dogs but not where food is being prepared and served. Guests should be more considerate of others too.
Chose to stay at this facility based on it's location, price, and reviews. Check in is after 3pm which I wish was sooner but no big deal. I was on the main floor facing the parking lot. The room was very clean, the furniture new and clean, the bed comfortable, the view from the Pool area was nice, the staff was friendly and you could really tell they cleaned this place with a purpose. The only issue I had was that the room door did not seal very well and air came in all around it. Felt very safe at this Hotel and will surely be back to visit again. Very Satisfied.
This was a cozy hotel, very clean, and perfect for a few nights stay. The front desk customer service was outstanding, everyone was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was fair, eggs, grits, pancakes, etc. It is well located to all of the outdoor hikes and state parks around the area. We would definitely stay here again.
Nothing special about this place. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. Could have used a better pillow. Breakfast good but could offer something other that sausage every day. Wasn't crazy about the two large dogs in the room next to us, but people were escaping the recent hurricane, so we gave them a pass. Tiled walkways could be a real hazard in bad weather and were marked so with signs. Not sure who's idea that was. Overall, I would stay there again although I thought it was a little pricey.
Friendly professional front desk staff. Room was pretty good and for Fall Foliage time, price was reasonable. Breakfast was above average for a motel.. A little our-of-the-way off the Blue Ridge Pkwy, but would return if opportunity presented itself. Rate it a 3 star.
My daughters and I came to visit App State and Boone. Not only was this hotel cheaper than any in Boone, it was extremely nice. I recommend it to anyone wanting a great get away weekend. Banner Elk and the surrounding area is very entertaining any time of the year, and you can never run out of stuff to do. We had a great overall stay!!
The Best Western in Banner Elk, NC is a nice place to stay if you don't plan to stay in your room very much. The cost is much more affordable than Boone or Blowing Rock hotels. The rooms are standard hotel style 2 bed rooms with a door that opens to the outside. I am not big on this type of hotel, but I did feel very safe here. The hotel was very clean, quite and the staff is very accommodating. Parking around the hotel is great, You can park near your room for almost all of the rooms. it's only about 20-30 minutes from Boone or Blowing Rock, and only a few minutes to Sugar Mountain and Grandfather Mountain. The only thing I could say negative about this place is they do not have an ice machine or vending machine near the pet rooms on the back of the hotel. This is a pretty big place and it's a long walk for ice or incidentals.
The staff here make all the difference. Great location, incredible breakfast each day, good coffee, comfortable beds - but again - nice people make it even more valuable. This is an older hotel and had some construction going on while we were there; however, it was clean, updated, and very close to downtown Banner Elk.
Our stay here was very nice, would stay here again when in the area. The girls at the front desk were were very friendly & helpful. The bedding was very nice & comfy, the room very clean & pleasant. We just want a nice clean room with comfy bed & friendly staff, & that's exactly what we got here.
Very friendly staff and very comfortable pet friendly rooms. Great Continental breakfast. All in all a wonderful value! If you don't want to be looking out of your room at the wall of the outside corrider, be sure to specify that you want an outside or poolside room.
Stayed for only one night (9/15/16), but the front desk was very helpful with directions and suggestions for a restaurant. We had met friends there on our way home from Florida. The room was clean & quiet. Would stay there again if the chance arises.
The place was very inviting from the moment I called them to inquire about getting a room. The lady at the front desk was very helpful. When we arrived the lobby had that at home feeling. It looks very rustic giving you the feeling of being in a mountain cabin. The room was very nice and the bed slept great. The breakfast was delicious. Mary was so polite and made sure we had everything we needed.
I loved the location and cool temperatures. I pool was nice too It was really nice but we were on the second floor and I didn't like the stairs and my back bothered us after 2 nights..Maybe because we are older. Breakfast room is great and food is great.
My friend and I decided to stay here after the Bristol football game, due to the huge price difference compared to the hotels in Bristol. We arrived around 3am, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the workers were at this time of morning. The lady working the front desk, was probably the nicest person you'll ever meet. The location was peaceful and quiet too
Nice little place. Been there before with the Porsche club. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Food service is fine as well. Bar could be better stocked......limited spirits on hand. The property is a little dated but most in the area are. It's clean and has a nice sized heated pool.
Staff were all excellent and willing to go the extra mile. Room was clean and no problems with functionality. I've stayed here several times in the past. The operators obviously have made an attempt to maintain quality of service. There was a Porsche thing going on when I was there, and it consumed a lot of available parking. Other than that, it was an enjoyable experience for the price and I definitely will book this hotel in the future. Again, staff appear well trained but with a smile and comfort -- not contrived.
This is not exactly a 5 star hotel, but it is a VERY NICE hotel with a friendly and helpful staff. My partner and I have stayed at the BW Mountain Lodge a couple times as we looked for places to rent in the Boone area. The staff was helpful at every turn. Very friendly at the front desk and at the free (pretty good!) breakfast. Breakfast was stocked till 10 sharp, so you could even come close to 10 and still eat. Very, very good value in the Summer months, and pet friendly. Can't say enough good things about this little gem in the mountains.
My short stay was outstanding. The front desk let me stay 2 extra hours so my Son could have more pool time without any hesitation. All the staff was wonderful and I would recommend this place to everyone. The popcorn machine was great for a late night movie and coffee was good also.
We recently stayed one night this past weekend and had a nice stay. The staff was very courteous, and gave us great recommendations for nearby restaurants. We ended up at Stonewalls and loved it. The room was clean, although it was a poor decision to mount the blow dryer to the wall near the bathroom that ended up blocking the light switch. The included breakfast buffet the next morning was much better than we anticipated. We'd definitely stay here again!
Great Customer Service in all areas that they offer. Going back soon. Price is extremely reasonable especially during the week. All staff members get out of their way to make your stay totally enjoyable.
Very nice staff, room was nice, great location. Have stayed here before and will choose this place again in the future. Close to many touring spots and nearby restaurants and activities. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to others.
We stayed here for a night to attend Autumn at Oz. The staff was always very friendly, particularly Lynann at the front desk who provided us with an area map and food recommendations. The check in area was very nice and updated, with a cozy lodge atmosphere. The breakfast area was also very nice. It had enough booths and tables for a small restaurant and the free breakfast was delicious and had a lot of different options. The room itself was clean, and the bed was very comfortable. It wasn't as updated as the check in area--there were a few outdated fixtures. Also, there were only two electrical outlets, one in the bathroom and one at the very edge of the room by the window, so this was a bit of inconvenience. Overall though, the room was very nice and comfortable, and I think we got good quality considering the inexpensive rate. I would stay here again and recommend to other travelers.
Great Place to stay. Pet Friendly, we had the best time and experience. my daughter had to take her dog and we had the best experience with the dog their and just checking in and just the overall stay was great.
I love staying here. It's convenient to downtown Banner Elk, loaded with amenities, has a great breakfast (starts a little later than most BW properties, but worth the wait), outstanding staff (Joy checked me in and lived up to her name), fast internet, and comfortable beds. Great value - it feels more like an upscale lodge than a hotel. I'll definitely be back.
I am traveling with my Labrador, was trying to find a hotel that was pet friendly, this is the only hotel in this area that is pet friendly! They have a beautiful dog walk for your pets! Property is very beautiful and clean, staff is very friendly and helpful!
We were only there one night but found this hotel to be a clean and comfortable stay in a beautiful location. It is near Grandfather Mountain and easy to find, and the staff is friendly. The only drawback was that we were on the second floor and there was no elevator and my husband has back problems. The breakfast was excellent and the breakfast staff was delightful. All in all, a nice place to stay when in that area.
The hotel is a pretty typical BW, outside doors, pool, some other amenities. Very friendly and helpful staff who were quick with directions and dining recommendations. We'd stay there again if we are in the area.
This hotel was fine, probably the best in this area as there are not many choices. This is what I would expect, basic, clean, friendly and convenient for my needs. Staff was courteous and well informed. The breakfast option looked very good, though due to a business meeting I was unable to dine here.
The most friendly staff you will ever run into. They went out of there way to make sure we had everything we needed for our 3 day stay. Quiet, clean and comfortable rooms. Would definitely stay there again!
Nice 2 story motel right off the road in Banner Elk. Our room was the pet friendly variety with a dog walk close by. The room was clean with hardwood floors, 2 double beds, small refrigerator, and microwave. We were in the second floor with no elevator. Our doggie was given a bag of treats on arrival. Nice place.
Quite expensive compared to other BW but that's probably due to location. Nice pool area however there are broken sun beds which should be taken away. Breakfast was very average. My key would not work even though I took it back to reception. Good clean room but plumbing was noisy.
We stay at this Best Western every time we come to Banner Elk, and it is a great place. We bring our dog at times, and it is always very clean. Our children enjoyed the pool this time, and loved it. We are very thankful for the good memories we make while here staying at the Best Western.
Our hiking group selected this hotel for our yearly trip. It is in a beautiful area with many hiking opportunities and restaurants. It was a good choice with very nice and clean updated rooms. They also supplied us with a conference room for our fun gathering. My one complaint is that they did not supply tea bags along with the in room coffee service. I also would have liked to have had green tea bags and oatmeal as part of their breakfast offerings. I would definitely stay there again.
The staff at the front desk were warm and friendly. It took a little longer than necessary to check in and out because of a new computer system but we were in no hurry so it was no problem for us. The price was budget-friendly. $89 per night and the clerk asked if I had coupons or Triple A for an extra discount. The rooms were roomy and exceptionally clean. The breakfast served was a full breakfast served buffet style with plenty of extras. Banner Elk is a charming little town with plenty of shopping places and good restaurants.
Good location, rooms are dated, but comfortable enough. It is nice to have a small refrigerator in your room along with a microwave and small coffee pot. Staff is wonderful. Breakfast is ok, nothing to write home about. They are pet friendly, which is a bonus for us.
This is a nice, updated hotel. Free popcorn in the lobby when I checked in and a good breakfast selection the next morning. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. The tv remote was in a sanitized bag-had not seen that before. Seems like they had thought of everything. Enjoyed sitting by the pool in the evening with my co-workers. All rooms had outdoor entries, but the area seemed very safe. We were able to hear conversations of our neighboring rooms, but it did not interrupt my stay.
I always wish hotels would make rooms larger and give more options of king size beds. I always seem to have to settle on a full or queen size and I need the room. Overall, the facilities were nice. No elevator, at least I never found one, so if you are handicapped, have a hard time with luggage, or bad knees, request a ground floor. We'll stay there again in the future.
I think that the cost through TripAdvisor was $25 to $50 too high. Our stay with Best Western was great. Location perfect for the events we had planned. Pool was heated and our grandson was very comfortable while swimming. Towels provided at pool were great because we had forgotten to take beach towels.
Friendly staff, clean rooms, peace and quiet, microwave, refrigerator, plenty amenities, outdoor pool, free scrumptious breakfast, and free coffee & popcorn in the lobby....what a gem of a hotel. Perfect location, too??. Great comfy beds....
This BW hotel was very nice. Room was very comfortable. We were traveling with our dog and had more than enough room to bring her kennel inside. The employees were all very pleasant which contributed to our stay. This was a great find for a good price. We would return and recommend to others.
Facility was clean, decor ok, great pool. Friendly staff. Nice full breakfast but the items were cold - they need to find a way to keep the buffet hotter. Bed was extremely uncomfortable. Would stay again but might ask for a better bed.
Banner Elk is a wonderful little place in the mountains. The variety of lodging options is quite limited, unless you start taking chances with cabins and homes in the mountain..... since we happened to stumbled on a quasi-force weekend vacation in NC, we decided to head to Banner Elk area with our 3.5 y.o. and our 5 y. o. While we usually seek to have one bedroom type of condo so we can have a separate room within the same unit. This time that was not going to be possible. very few rooms left at this or any other property miles around.... So we felt grateful. Checking in was a breeze, the night clerk Jennylee was a sweetheart, polite and very professional. Upon entering the room we saw a normal Motel type room with two beds, Tv medium size fridge and a microwave. Also a bathroom with a tub. all clean and well maintained. Well here comes the BUT !!!! even if this property chooses to call the beds as doubles.... there is no way these are doubles for any good'ol american standard. 2 people may happily share a bed if they plan to be one on top of each other.... but it would not be, by any means, an expansive bed. Also the beds were a bit on the softer side of things.... which most traveller might agree that a firm bed is a better bet. the linens were good and always crispy clean. and for the BEd issue we got a great solution...... the hotel provided us with a rollaway bed that we were able to just fit between the two beds and my kids were so happy to sleep there in between us. The property had 24 hour clerk which is not very common around there, had free breakfast included with great things.... it was a long time since last time i had such good grits..... there was a pool that though we did not used , looked appealing enough.... and in the future when we go back..... surely the BEst Western Mountain Resort would be a valid candidate for our lodging.
First of all, let me state that last night was somewhere north of 125 nights I've spent in hotels or motels in 2016. I travel a lot. I'm not a travel diva, I'm just observant. I've also never left a review of a hotel before. My review would be one star, except for the great attitudes of Joy (2nd shift front desk), Mary (breakfast area manager) and all the housekeeping staff I encountered. What ruined it for me? Arriving at 2:20 in the afternoon, I knew that I was early for their 3:00 check-in time. I also knew their check-out time was 11 am, so I figured they'd have a block of rooms already cleaned and ready. There were approximately 8 cars in the parking lot when I arrived, most with local tags (I lived in the area 37 years, recognized some of the school bumper stickers). The woman at the front desk (not Joy!) definitely does not have client-facing soft skills. She was almost gleeful as she cut me off mid-request to inform me she would have to stick with company policy and hold to the 3 pm check-in time. "We were full last night. We just don't have enough rooms cleaned yet..." Nonsense. 11 am check-out time, at least 6 housekeeping staff that I observed, 3 rooms per hour per worker, 18 rooms per hour, 3.3 hours since checkout times... that's 60 rooms cleaned, in an 88 room property. Let's say that my math is terribly wrong, that I'm off by 50%. That the laundry was backed up and there wasn't enough clean towels and sheets. That would still be 30 rooms ready to go after 3 hours 20 minutes (assuming they waited until 11 to begin). There ended up being 6 of us waiting in the parking lot and lobby as she held fast to the 3:00 check-in time. 4 of those folks parked their cars under the canopy and left them, completely blocking the fire lane. At 3:00, we were all lined up and ready to check in, and she had to call 2nd shift out of the back to deal with the sudden rush. After I got my room key and unloaded into the room, I walked the perimeter and watched the housekeeping staff working diligently. I also saw many, many rooms with the curtains opened and the beds freshly made, ready for occupancy. Was it a small thing? Only if you think being lied to is a small thing. Only if you think the erosion of customer service is something to be celebrated. Only if you think that client-interaction skills are unimportant. Ma'am, with all due respect, learn some customer skills or find another line of work... just don't lie to my face, smirk, and expect me to appreciate it. A soft roll-in to the 3:00 hour would have alleviated some of the rush and gone a long way to build strong relationships with potential repeat customers. As I was staying on points, I have stayed at Best Westerns many times, all across the U.S. I won't be staying at this one again. I'll drive to Boone instead. By the way, your carpet between the couch and the air conditioning is soaking wet. I could tell the folks at the front desk that, but I'm hoping someone in authority will read this and make whoever that front desk person was to come clean it. Of course, if the person in authority trained the one working the desk on Sunday August 7th, there's probably not much hope there either.
An average roadside hotel with lots of plusses. Obviously location. Close to everything. Has a breakfast buffet though food iis mediocre but clean and lots of seating. The room is average but was clean with shower having good water pressure and hot water. The area is quiet. The front desk is pleasant. The pool was clean, warm water, and a nice way to wind down from a busy day. WiFi worked well. Would stay again when visiting the area.
I'm a pretty easy grader but to me the Best Western was really just average. It certainly had some good points. The room was clean and quiet. There was a good breakfast included. I liked the fact that it had a mini-fridge and microwave. The pool was nice. The Internet worked well. And there really isn't a lot to choose from in the area. But the room was pretty small and the furniture was just so-so as was the bathroom. Parking was tight. It was tough to find an outlet to plug the laptop in. If you need a place to sleep it's fine. But it's not the Ritz nor is it priced like it is.
Visited Banner Elk for a campus visit to Lees McRae. This was the closest hotel. Breakfast service was good, the service attendant excellent. Rooms were clean. Beds were older and somewhat uncomfortable. The water pressure in the shower was terrible. The location is good. The internet service was good.
This Motel/Hotel at Banner Elk operated by Best Western was the cleanest and nicest I've been for a long time. The free breakfast was the greatest. The room was very fresh and clean smelling. The beds were very nice and comfy. It was a great stay. Thanks
The pictures online showed a deck overlooking the mountains, so I thought this hotel would have great mtn views. But I was very disappointed. I also didn't expect the rooms to open to the outside. However, I gave it a chance and was pleasantly surprised. The staff were very friendly. Breakfast was terrific and the room was clean. We stayed 2 nights and then moved on to another city.
The staff are always helpful and friendly. We had good service from the staff. BUT the actual building needs a complete refurbishment, our room smelt musty. The walls were dark, and the whole room felt tired. On the kingsize bed was a smaller (queensize?) feather pad, so if you lay near the edge of the bed it felt like you were about to roll out of bed. Outside of our room was the ice machine, which somebody refilled late in the evening, the noise in our room was awful. The walkway to the foyer had a big puddle in it which eventually dried out, but shows the state of the walkways. I cannot recommend this hotel as it is to anybody.
Having stayed at this property several times over the last 8-10 years we knew what to expect. Remodeling and freshening brings product up a bit. Price was great for middle of summer high season. Outdoor heated pool was very good. Free breakfast is a bit better than before. Mary in breakfast was extremely helpful and thorough.
I had been on a roadtrip going through Georgia, Tennesse and then North Carolina previous to my stay here and I had stayed at many hotels beforehand. The front check-in ladies were very friendly and observant as they filled up the coffee/popcorn table they had and called our room phone after they notice my husband and daughter go to get some coffee and there wasn't any at the time! This made my day on how great the service was! The rooms were very average as they had a fridge, cable tv, hot shower...etc There is a wide variety of breakfast choices so look around the room before heading to the "hot food bar" which is the first option you see when you walk into the breakfast area. The cold and bread options are in the built in wall shelves that are to your left and right after you walk into that room. The wifi is okay. The pool is heated and its clean!
This motel was a real surprise. Banner Elk is a small community and I wasn't expecting much. However the motel, condition of rooms, excellent staff that went above and beyond, the great breakfast, free popcorn and DVD players in the room and DVD's to rent - everything was really excellent. And I must reiterate - all the employees were extremely courteous and helpful, just terrific.
Probably the most friendly staff I've experienced. Very clean room, big room, parked motorcycle right up to room door then moved to front under awning. Huge heated clean outside pool and area. Good WiFi. I would recommend. Beautiful views of the mountains in every direction. CONS...... below average breakfast, no hot water at night.....
Older property. Breakfast was not very good. Staff was nice. There were several dogs out by the pool area barking till around 10:30 at night. I will probably not stay there again when I am in the area.
Had a wonderful stay, everyone was nice and friendly and room was amazing! Very close to places to eat, beautiful views, and good centralized location to visit many mountain attractions. I would recommend this over many other hotels in this area.
This motel is one of the few in the area of Banner Elk. It is decorated with a mountain theme and fits in well with the region that hosts the Highland Games each year. There are nice restaurants in the area and lots of scenic views of the mountains.
We just stayed here on a girls' trip over the weekend. The hotel was very clean and the staff was professional. A breakfast is provided and it was ok, but free and on par with other hotel breakfasts. The pool looked fun and clean but we didn't use it - lots of kids having fun in it, though! The place was nice and quiet and our room was clean.
Stayed here on scenic trip from northern Georgia to our home in Virginia. Chose for proximity to Grandfather Mountain. We chose this for a good value that also included a hot breakfast. They have a nice outdoor pool, but it was too cool to use it. Free popcorn was a nice plus, as we rented a DVD for a $1.
The employees, room, physical facilities exceeded my expectations. Breakfast included a great variety of items; the ones I had did not exceeded my expectations for motel breakfasts. The grounds, including pool, seats, swings, and picnic areas, were well-appointed and well-kept. I look forward to my return on another visit.
I have not stayed at a Best Western in over 20 years due to my perceived decline in quality. I read the reviews on this site and decided to give them another try. The price definitely had some sway in my thinking. I may be giving Best Western another look on future travels if this motel is indicative of how they are upgrading their quality. The room was very clean. The grounds and lobby area are well maintained, neat and clean. The personnel are friendly and helpful. I would stay here again.
What makes this hotel "good" is not the room but the location and its other simple amenities. The rooms are clean but average... what you may expect from a Best Western; just below a new Holiday Inn Express - but not bad. Well done for what it is. Amenities: - It's outdoor pool that is central and can be seen from any room that is poolside (if you are not on the parking lot side). The hotel is arranged like a big "C" and we were on the inside - making the nice large pool visible to us and able for us to see our older children playing. - The continental breakfast is hot, overall fresh, but you will be greeted by a lady that will ask you about your trip, take your extra plates, and make sure you have what you need for the morning and wishing you well on your way. - There was alway coffee in the containers. - And, most of all, the service desk was fun and helpful. Although I did get directions to the Outer Banks that took me an hour out of the way. My fault for not double checking with Google Maps. I would stay here again. The location is perfect if you are looking for a little mountain town to stay in the area. Close to Boone for rock climbing and other mountain activities/sites and beautiful. The town is very nice, even upscale with little coffee houses and shops. On another note, many people will tell you to go to Grandfather Mountain, and indeed I am sure it it nice... we did some research and planned to go there as well - but many of the locals talked endlessly about Roan Mountain (about 35 minutes away from the hotel) where you can do a 25 - 40 minute hike to a "bald" (the top). You are on top of the world and actually on the AT Trail (which was cool for my kids). All the rhododendrons were in bloom and it was beautiful. If you are looking for another "pull in the parking lot" and be there experience, but do not want to pay the $20 per person admission of Grandfather Mountain - you can also look up Lindville Falls and go there. It was excellent for views, trails and outlooks. Grandfather has some animals and the bridge... but we were very pleased with our two stops for hiking. We also used Rock Dimensions for a half day of Rock Climbing. There were excellent our guide made it a great time and perfect memory for my three boys. One more thing... there was a Mexican Restaurant that you have to go to (drive toward Boone) if you stay here. You will not be disappointed. It is about 10 minutes away from the Best Western and we actually went there 2x because it was so great. Salsa Dip bar, excellent prices - $7.95 for a dinner. Free oysters on Thursday nights (if you are into that), and great service. We got there early, around 5pm. It will get busy around 6pm. Thanks!
This property is just outside town of Banner Elk. It is less than 10 miles from Grandfather Mountain. The property has a little age, but the rooms are updated and very clean. Beds were comfortable; flat screen tv had plenty of channels; breakfast was good; staff was friendly; parking was free. What more can you want from a chain hotel? The only negative was that the pool was closed. That was for maintenance.
A very enjoyable stay overall. I have to admit I am not a fan of this style of lodging (exterior room doors) but this hotel was great, comfortable rooms. Exceptionally helpful staff who very were friendly. I will definitely return when I am in the area again for business.
Nice clean hotel with outdoor pool. Tiki bar to sit in, but not open. Breakfast was excellent. Not far from Grandfather's Mountain. Only bad thing is you have to drive to restaurants. But there is a winery not far away. The mountains are awesome!
As usual, my wife and I give our own separate grades for places we visit. Me Room 235. My wife A. Cleanliness. A A. Quietness. A+ B- Water Pressure. A- A- Breakfast. A+ B- Bed Comfort. A B+ Character. A+
This hotel's location and pricing I think is what makes it stand out. Very near the highlights of the area, and right around the corner pretty much from the fabulous Artisanal restaurant. Decor in room dated, but staff very helpful and friendly.
This was my second stay at this hotel and I enjoyed it just as much as the first. It's convenient to nearly everything in the high mountain area, reasonably priced, has great service, a good breakfast, wonderful pool, comfortable beds, fast internet. I'll be back.
Wonderful staff! Good clean rooms. A lot of choices for a good breakfast. Staff went out of there way to make us feel like we were at home. Internet worked well. Soap is by liquid dispenser only no bar soap so if you prefer bar bring from home.
Quiet and close to Banner Elk. Older but seems clean. Point to note that this is more of an MOTEL. Doors are external vs opening into an internal hallway. Just different than what I'm used to and only thing around. Staff was pleasant and helpful.
Stay here during your trip to the area. All employees were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet was above average in selection. The fixtures in the guest rooms were of better quality than many guest rooms in other hotels in the chain.
Extremely pleased with our stay. Clean room and comfortable bedding. Superior service at the front desk. Really like the fact that offer non-pet room and non-smoking rooms. Very clean with no scent or animal dander. Comfortable outside heated pool with grills to cook out on , as an option. also. We look forward to staying at this Best Western again in the future.
We drove 2000 miles and stayed four places. This was by far our favorite. It was the least expensive by far, although we would have been happy to pay more for the lovely room and surroundings. The heated pool was SO relaxing!
This hotel is a pretty good value for the hundred bucks that we spent staying there. The rain was your average hotel room that had everything we needed and was very clean. The pool was excellent very clean and the perfect temperature. The tiki bar area was great me and my husband said to wine while enjoying the weather. The best thing about this hotel is the breakfast it is amazing it is the best breakfast I've ever had at a hotel.
We were happy with our stay. Hotel staff was friendly and the breakfast was surprisingly good. Our room keys never seemed to work though and other guests were having problems with them as well. Staff always was happy to swap them out but it never really fixed the issue. Priced well for the area though and in a pretty location. Would recommend.
Other than the fact that the fridge didn't have a freezer we felt the amenities were fine. They have an excellent breakfast. Things are maintained well and the service staff is excellent. My wife really enjoyed that a shower cap was provided.
Room was very clean and a good breakfast. Great location - just a few miles from Grandfather Mountain and Boone. A nice drive from Asheville. Nice views from the hotel and a beautiful lobby area. We will stay again.
Everything was clean and nice! The staff was warm and friendly. The location is excellent. Breakfast was amazing! We really enjoyed the free grab and go snack! i only wish we could have stayed longer!
This was a fabulous hotel located in a wonderful town. The hotel staff was very attentive and helpful. The rooms are clean, there is plenty of parking! They helped us with suggestions for places to eat where to go to see the sights in the area and even gave us printed directions for a well-known site that is often difficult to find with GPS because of the mountains. We will all be back again next year!
My husband and I stayed for two nights so we could see Linville Falls, Grandfather Mountain, and Crabtree Falls. The front desk person was very friendly and helpful when we checked in, and the room was clean and cozy. Water pressure in the shower left a bit to be desired, and the free breakfast was not really edible, but we were given a 10% off coupon to breakfast at the Banner Elk Cafe, and THAT was AMAZING. Best biscuit I've ever had. All in all, we would definitely stay here again.
We had a great time! Hotel is really close to Grandfather Mountain and Boone. The area is amazing. The hotel was really easy to get to. The pillows were a bit too soft for our liking but we had everything that we needed. The pool seemed heated which was really great in the cool mountain air!
From start to finish this lodge is the best. From the staff, pool, sight, location, bed, breakfast, and cleanliness. It is number one.. Thank so much for a great stay. The staff is Excellent. Mary in the morning at breakfast was a delight.
super place, super clean, super nice area of mountains. great to find such a great place with pet friendly accommodations. just a relaxing place to take five and know you will be well taken care of. the breakfast bar was clean and well taken care of. a good selection of food, and all the things to go with it. Mary helped me out and offered me special tea and talked about teas. a more pleasant lady you couldn't have found. all the room service ladies were super too. they were kind and helpful. kind to us. they were kind to my dog. we both appreciated the big doggy walk area
Had a short stay but the staff was EXCELLENT, the service was incredible and this was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in (TRUTH). We called about a room last minute. We said we would call back in a few minutes and forgot. They phoned us, and asked if we were still coming out before giving the room to someone else. Love the service. (P.S. - Plan on staying for breakfast. Not your average continental!)
Great and easy check in. Price was great. Room was nice and clean and I'm picky. Breakfast was continental but filling; sausage, pancakes, grits, biscuits and gravy, cereal, muffins and toast. Coffee, juice, milk and water to drink. Water wasn't very hot in the shower but could've been my timing. Pool was nice and clean. Great venue for the cost. I would absolutely stay here again.
Our room was a king with a pullout couch. The room was very clean and roomy. The television worked! Soap, shampoo and conditioner were dispensed via a container in the shower instead of little bottles that they would have to discard. Even though there were just two of us, they left us 4 fluffy towels. Breakfast consisted of a hot bar, cereal, fruit, yogurt and pastries. Mary, the breakfast room attendant, was kind enough to offer us gluten-free options (a necessity for me) and just a wonderful hostess. The staff at the front desk was polite, professional and knowledgeable. The pool area was clean and included a cabana with a bar. There was even a birdhouse full of baby swifts to watch while we drank our mid-afternoon coffee, kept warm and NOT stale in carafes. Our only complaint is that the walls seemed a little thin. Noise did travel from room to room. Other than that, what a wonderful stay. Thank you, Best Western!
I stumbled on this hotel while looking for somewhere to stay close to Roan Mountain. And what a find! Our room, a king, was large with a pullout couch. The bathroom and vanity are separate, something we look for and enjoy. There was plenty of hot water at all times of the day. The room was clean and well apportioned with a microwave and a refrigerator. The television worked and had an accompanying DVD player (which we did not use). There are plenty of restaurants close by and the scenery can't be beat! The breakfast features hot and cold selections. Mary, the breakfast room attendant, offered us gluten free selections that were not already on the buffet and saw to it that we got what we needed. Our only complaint is that the walls are a little thin and sounds from accompanying rooms do carry through. Outside of that, we were very pleased with our stay.
Terrific motel experience. The motel was quiet, clean and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. The continental breakfast was lavish compared to other motels. High on my list of recommendations to friends. Will definitely stay there again!
Great place to stay. Going back next week for another visit while we wait for our new home to close. Friendly staff that knows what customer service is all about. Clean and Pet friendly to boot. Thanks!
Wow. I was so surprised how convenient and clean the hotel is. Very quiet hotel. Super friendly staff. Every team member is wonderful! Shannon is a sweetheart. The hotel accepts pets, so that was a huge plus :) The beds are extremely comfortable, and the outdoor pool and gym looked great.
First of all, week day prices are amazingly low. The hotel with all its amenities, including an excellent breakfast, pool, workout room and lounging area, offers so much for these prices. The rooms are well appointed and have everything one needs. Plenty of parking, free internet.
Hotel was very clean and comfortable. Their breakfast was very delicious and had great selection. I wish the pool was open it looked like it was nice. Everyone was very friendly. Would love to go back and stay longer
This Best Western is on my list of Top 3 best pet friendly hotels. The overall experience is EXCELLENT, although the building itself dates from the late 60s or early 70s. The property is in remarkable shape considering its age. People who are allergic can be assured that they have dedicated pet friendly rooms. You do NOT have to get a room where a pet has stayed if you are allergic. The main reception area is very high end and well decorated, considering the price range of the hotel. The breakfast is outstanding and the servers are very good. The only "down" side of breakfast is that they use paper plates. But I guess everybody does now. Other amenities include a delightful pool area with a grill for barbecuing nearby. There is also a fitness center and rooms for meetings. And of course you have a delightful staff.
This property was in great condition. Nice staff! Rooms are a nice size and it was clean.Breakfast is included. Cereals, yogurt, eggs, pancakes, grits - nice selection and mice area to eat! Only complaint - pool empty and not functioning. Also - if doing Grandfather mountain - get there before 9 to avoid the lines
It's not a bad hotel it was ok for the price. The staff is friendly and check in was quick. The beds are very small but the room was clean. The pool was broken and being rebuilt we wish we had known this before check in as our kids wanted to go swimming and had we known we would have stayed else where but over its ok for the price.
Staff was friendly and very helpful. Me and my wife enjoyed our one night stay very much. We didn't want to leave!! Scenery was nice with cool summer temps. Breakfast was very good. Lot of great golf courses around too.
Average Best Western, staff friendly & helpful! Morning breakfast just OK. Almost out of everything on one morning. Rooms are clean & neat. Lobby area nice. Good location. Worth a visit, staff makes this place go!
If you are expecting a high end experience you won't get it. But you will find a friendly staff, clean rooms, and a typical breakfast fare. If you want to eat outside and enjoy the view there are picnic tables and a grill. As a woman traveling alone I felt safe the entire time, and all members of the staff said hello if I passed them around the site.
Nice lobby with a cozy mountain feel. Decent workout room for the size of the hotel, which is a must for me. Rooms are clean but on the small size. Complimentary breakfast is very good with a nice variety of hot food (eggs, sausage, pancakes) and cereal and pastries. Staff is very friendly and welcoming especially helpful at breakfast. Great location. Will stay again.
I love this hotel. I will not stay anywhere else when traveling to Banner Elk. The staff are like really good friends now and they act like this is their very own hotel. It really is nice when everyone takes it upon themselves to make sure we are treated like they really cherish our stay.
We stayed for one night while going to visit Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls and Chimney Rock. The hotel reception is kind of movie scary and there are stuffed animals all over the corridors. The rooms are big, but dated. During the night we were cold and the air conditioned is not that great. Breakfast is included but not very good also. Extra points for the swimming pool that seems nice (however it was closed)
Spent the night there Sunday. Was welcomed immediately by the very nice front desk folks. The room was very comfortable, clean, well-maintained, good TV, sanitary remotes, refrigerator, and nice beds. The breakfast was good and check-out was a breeze. They had free internet too. All for under $100. This is a great deal.
First the hotel was clean and staff was very courteous. The beds were very uncomfortable. If you are looking to be close to Boone to visit your student this is not a good place to stay. It's a least a half hour drive away on long narrow roads going down the mountain. Not a lot to do around Banner Elk. Has to travel to Boone for the Tanger Outlet which was Great. However, there is an Italian Restaurant down the street called Bella's that has AMAZING Pizza.
Heated Pool was drained...OK, I guess I should've called, but when I'm at the front desk checking in, the girl there is asking about my room choice and I said I want to be close to the pool. They didn't have anything first floor, so I asked if they had something second floor, close to the stairs, so we could get to the pool quick. She NOT ONCE mentioned that the pool was closed. Seriously??? The groupon made it seem like it was a deal with the pool and breakfast, but the breakfast was bad too. I think only one poor guy was working and we had to keep chasing him down to get stuff that was empty or missing. Plus, our room door had 2 big sections of the bottom missing and there was literally a bug crawling on my bed when I walked in the room. Stay in Blowing Rock people!
The hotel got an average instead of very good because every room is pet friendly. If non-smoking and smoking can be segregated, as well as accessible rooms, why are pets not segregated? We simply don't understand. For someone highly allergic this would be a disaster. This was the only decent hotel we could find in the area at the time of day we were looking. Traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway is a challenge in this regard. Though too pet friendly, we were greeted in a very friendly and helpful manner. The restaurant suggestions enabled us to have a wonderful dinner. Our room had a mini fridge but it did not have a freezer. They were most accommodating about keeping our ice packs in their freezer for the night. The complimentary breakfast was served with a smile and quite tasty. The only reason for my rating is the over friendliness of pets. We did not find the hotel noisy and it was fully booked with family of graduates of the local college.
We planned to spend one night here and it is so nice and private we spent two nights. Although on a major road, the traffic wasn't disruptive. The staff is welcoming and the rooms clean and spacious. We will return there as it's close to many sights and nice restaurants. Be sure to visit Boone, Blowing Rock and Grandfather Mountain. Very nice lodging.
The staff was very nice....there was a fair amount of cosmetic work that needed to be done around the property....the rooms are very noisey.....the room and facility was clean....but, it was the WORST mattress I had just about ever slept on...i ended up on the couch the second nite, just to get the 3 hours of sleep I got....so considering all, this place was not a decent deal...i probably wouldn't stay again.....
The rooms were noisy - I could hear everything said or done in every room around me. We were charged extra because we checked out early but we didn't have a no-cancellation reservation. It's nice to have a pet friendly room but we had to pay the pet fee for the night we didn't stay.
Best Western is one of our favorite places to stay when we travel, so we decided to stay at this very, very nice Best Western in Banner Elk, NC. We always travel with our small dogs, so it was important to have a nice and safe place to walk them. This Best Western certainly provides that. A wonderful and clean area for the dogs, along with "doggie bags" to clean up!! Seems most people have done just that. The area is convenient and well lit. Very important!!! Rooms are very clean!! Nice refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker. Great bed with lots of pillows!! IMPORTANT!!!!! Bathroom clean and nice dispenser for shampoo, soap, and conditioner. Nice idea!! Breakfast was amazing!! As nice a breakfast we have seen at any hotel!! Scrambled eggs, grits, sausage, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, cereal, fruit and yogurt!!! Great coffee, and assortment of juices. WONDERFUL!! Rarely do you find such a nice breakfast!! All kinds of condiments to enhance whatever you choose. Very nice dining area!! Lots of tables and booths. Just all around, one of the nicest breakfasts we have had while traveling, and we have been to quite a few!! Great job Best Western!!!!! The staff was very friendly and helpful. Kudos to management! We will definitely return!
Well appointed and clean rooms. Very comfortable, and the feather bed on top of the mattress was a nice treat. Great breakfast. Only complaint was the lack of convenient electric outlets in the room. While traveling I need to charge my phone, tablet, computer, and camera. Next time I'll pack a plug bar. Would also love to see the breakfast get rid of plastic plates and utensils. Would have been 5 stars with those two items. All in all, I would stay there again.
We spent 1 night at the Best Western. Our Front Desk agent was Sherrie and she was absolutely fabulous. She took her time during the check-in process, had a friendly demeanor and proactively offered to have an employee each out to assist with a wedding block of rooms for our upcoming wedding in October. Cross-communication within the hotel proved to be true because the Sales contact called me the very next day to set up details. Granted, she caught me while driving 1000 miles to my next destination so I couldn't talk at the time but I was impressed by their attention to detail and prompt replies. The room itself was nothing fancy - it was exactly what we paid for and requested: king bed, fridge, tv, shower, sofa. We didn't need anything more for our 1 night stay but I would presume if you're seeking "luxury" a person would know this hotel is intended for laid back, easy travel. The breakfast buffet was fantastic with plenty of seating, appreciated the breakfast-to-go and early-bird coffee availability, lots of brochures about the area, very clean and well maintained fitness center & restrooms, fun communal area for socializing by the pool, etc. Very impressed. Will recommend to those who are seeking a more affordable option during peak season.
I stayed at the Best Western in Banner Elk, NC during a business trip. The staff was very helpful and everyone was so nice. The lady staffing the breakfast dining room was outstanding and very sweet. The hotel was very clean and well appointed with lots of environmentally sustainable features, which is a plus for me when I travel. They should apply for NC GreenTravel recognition as a "green" hotel.
Up on arrival I was greeted right away. Staff was very nice. Explained about some minor construction going on in the "drive-in" area - but there was very little noise. Was very impressed with my room - very clean - clean smelling - bed was awesome. Coffee, fridge, DVD player, etc.. Everything that was needed for a few days stay. Highly recommend this hotel. Beautiful view of mountains.
The staff of Best Western Banner Elk went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The location is also very convenient to area attractions, hiking trails and several surrounding points of interest.
There really aren't many options in Banner Elk other than B&B's, so I chose the BW. The motel always seems to be in flux. They are always working on the exterior walkways (they are tile and severe freeze/thaw environment and that's a bad idea), always working on the portico and the bar and restaurant is always changing or closed. The motel in general is pretty dated. The staff was pleasant and the wifi worked well.
I chose this hotel on line for it's proximity to the ski mountains. It was only one mile from sugar mountain and so close to the cute little town. The room was tidy and well decorated and looked out on a cute courtyard with a pool and nice landscaping. Lobby was scottish themed with a cozy fireplace and leather couches. Coffee station and afternoon popcorn was a nice touch.
Very friendly staff, room was very clean and exceeded our expectations. Breakfast was free and had several items to choose from. Lodge is very close to everything. Sugar Mountain is practically across the way. Banner Elk Cafe and Bayou Restaurant are very good and affordable.
Good location, close to many different restaurants and attractions. Front desk service really nice and spent few minutes indicating the best places to go and eat. Really nice, clean, big and confort room. It´s pet friendly and has a big yard for them to walk. I just wont give it 5 starts because as a vegetarian, the breakfast didnt have any option for me. It was basically sausage, bacon, eggs, hamburguer and coffe. Dint see any yougurt, fruits, juice, cereal etc.
Only a few minute drive down the way to ski Sugar Mountain and plenty of in-town dining choices. The hotel offered a one-bedroom with a pullout sleeper, 2 bathrooms and a jaccuzzi tub. It was large and clean, but could use some updating. Staff was great.
the mattress is not even good for my dog to sleep on and the room by the stairs is so noisy as people run up and down it all night and the door seal needs to be replaced the cold air gets in because this is a out side door
My wife and I booked a king room for two days of skiing at Sugar Mountain during our escape to Western NC. We chose the Best Western based on other positive reviews on Trip Advisor, price, and proximity to Sugar Mountain. First of all, this hotel participates in Sugar's Winter Value Program, which is a very good deal if you're a skier: Unlimited lift tickets and rentals for each day skiing, and the lodging all in one shot. However, it isn't something I found a way to book online so you have to call if you want to take advantage of the deal. It was when I made the call that I experienced the great customer service from the hotel staff. My initial attempt to book the package was very difficult to complete, as the hotel was in the middle of a serious winter snow/ice storm and the lobby was jammed with other patrons, swamping all of the staff that evening. However, they made their absolute best effort to finish the booking process and provide the one-on-one focus and attention that our booking required. I was contacted the next day by one of the senior staff to confirm that we had booked exactly we wanted and to make sure that we were satisfied with everything thus far. As our arrival date approached, we needed to add an extra night to our stay, and, while it was too late to modify our package deal, we had no issue keeping the same room at the best possible rate. Check-In was completely smooth. A small welcome goodie bag for my wife and I was prepared by the staff with our lift tickets, local directions, and a couple snacks. Desk staff was courteous and attentive, and we had our keys and were in our room in only a couple of minutes. Our second floor king room was clean and also quiet, despite being next to the mechanical room and breezeway to the stairs. Approximately 30 minutes after we checked in, the front desk called the room to make sure we were satisfied with the room. The breakfast was more of the standard country fare, with biscuits, gravy, sausage, eggs, etc., and your typical cereals, toasts, and bagels. It was all pretty tasty and a good fill-up before hitting the slopes. Unlike many other hotels, the breakfast is in an actual dining room, with plenty of space to accommodate every party of every size. Like the rest of the facility everything was clean and well attended-to, with staff on site to make sure all the breakfast items were available and the tables were clean. It was a nicer breakfast experience than other more expensive hotels I've stayed at. While we stayed there, a small winter storm hit, which was exactly what I was hoping for since we were there to ski. The hotel had the parking lot plowed before breakfast and kept it clear throughout the day. Staff also salted and shoveled the walkways such that they were always free of snow or ice. Location-wise, the hotel is perhaps 3~4 minutes from the Sugar Mountain base and a couple minutes from the main drag through Banner Elk, which is very convenient. The staff really does make the effort to make sure you're satisfied with everything during your stay, and that's a lot more than I can say for many other more expensive hotels. It was a very good experience and my wife and I were very happy with our stay here. We will most certainly plan on staying here again for our next visit to the area.
My family and I had a wonderful stay at this Best Western hotel. They have pet friendly rooms and it was one of the reasons we chose this hotel and was pleasantly surprise that the rooms were very clean and the pet area was nice and close to pet friendly rooms.
Such a great place to stay when coming to Sugar Mountain to ski or tube. The hotel is just a short drive away nestled in the valley with shops, restaurants and grocery stores. We were very impressed by how clean and quiet this hotel was. We have two smaller children and are very picky about where we stay but this hotel was an excellent choice. The room was very comfortable with everything you would need for a stay away from home. The free breakfast was ok but not too many choices but everything we did have was really good, hot and fresh.
I chose this hotel simply because it was the only hotel for a weekend getaway for my fiancé and I. The rooms were clean and tidy when we arrived and the staff was very nice. Unfortunately, the walls were very thin and I could hear all of my obnoxious neighbors during the night yelling and making drunk animal noises with their friends. I could also hear every person who walked past my room and their conversations. I hate that I have to be so negative as it is really more of a structural hotel problem than the staff or room room cleanliness.
Couldn't have asked for a better trip. The front office staff was great, very accommodating. Ended up arriving a few hours earlier than our check-in time, but they already had the room ready and insisted we check in to get out of the snow. Super comfortable beds and pillows as well! Also couldn't be in a more convenient location. Just minutes from everything in town. All-in-all, I can't wait to go back, and won't be staying anywhere else but here.
Just 5 mins drive from Sugar Mountain. Average BW style. All rooms are motel type (outdoor facing), but actually that is quite convenient as you can park close to your room (especially handy with ski equipment). They serve hot breakfast, but don't expect too much of it (mainly scrambled eggs, hot buns and meat). They don't have waffle makers like most other BW's do. We had a room with two double beds, but actually these are pretty narrow for two (even adult and kid is s bit tight). We stayed with three, which was ok, but wouldn't stay in this room type with four.
I have a picky bunch traveling with me and they are hard to please. Pre-teens can be surprisingly critical of accommodations especially when they have been to some pretty swanky places. I am please to give this Best Western in Banner Elk an great review as it not only passed my lodging need but exceeded the families expectations. Quite, Clean, Conveniently located and friendly.. The room was clean and fresh, the remote was in a bag that indicated it had been sanitized, the beds were nice, big flat screen, loads of channels and the Winter Value Package that included lift tickets, rentals, tubing, ice skating and more were perfect! Thanks Ms Maness!
Great place to warm up and settle in after a day in the cold. Great lodge atmosphere. The front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was warm and clean and we had ample space for ourselves, our daughter and our dog.
We stayed over President's Day weekend. Check in was easy, rooms were clean and comfortable. I wish the beds would have been queens vs full. Exterior walls are thin and we were woken several times by people talking as they walked outside and drug suitcases. Breakfast was hot and decent selection. There wasn't a variety each day so by the third day I probably would have wanted to eat elsewhere. Staff very nice. Bring money to tip them. The front desk staff were very friendly and when we needed to check out a day early they made this process easy even though we booked through Travelocity. I forgot a couple of things at the hotel so after our ski day we returned and they had these items waiting for me it was over and beyond what was expected. Would definitely stay here again, not on a holiday weekend though as Sugar Mountain has a hard time accommodating so many people. The hotel was very close to Sugar Mountain which was great. We ate dinner at Painted Fish Cafe and loved it.
Very satisfied with our stay and will return. Rooms were clean and well prepared. The featherbed was very comfortable. The breakfast was well prepared and the staff member responsible for preparing it took personal interest in how well it was done. She personalized her relationslhip with us by insuring that we were pleased with the meal and engaged in appropriate small talk which again showed she was more than an employee.
Clean room with a very comfortable bed, nice amenities including plenty of towels. Covered walking areas for ice and snow protection, restaurants nearby, good location for skiing Sugar Mountain which is just a few minutes away.
Do not buy a ski package cause if the weather is not good and you can't ski you do NOT get any refund or offer to change your dates of travel. We called before we left to go on the trip and asked if we could change our dates and were told the manager would have to call us back. She did, but she was going to have to call Sugar Mountain to check to see if they would change the dates of our trip. But….said it would be the day we would be traveling before she would know anything. That didn't work for us. If you go, pay as you go. Hotel room separate from skiing. Hotel was ok and breakfast was good. Just didn't feel like they wanted to work with us on coming in a different week. Sorry but we will not be back.
This place isn't the Ritz but it's a decent clean hotel with a comfortable bed and a good price. The front desk provided us exemplary service the entire stay and beyond. My son forgot his retainer and I had to go back 6 hrs after we had already checked out. They not only had the retainer safe and sound, which was a miracle because it was a clear retainer, but offered me snacks and hot tea and coffee. Very nice, welcoming staff.
We turned a one night stay to a three night stay due to a snow storm. Being from coastal Georgia, this was an anxious time for me. The staff was great. They worked with us on extending our stay, despite have a full hotel. They were great working with our entire group. Their housekeeping staff found things left in our rooms when we checked out and showed professionalism and concern for their guests as we retrieved items left by our friends who headed home before us. The staff made the trip a fun time rather than a weekend filled with anxiety. Thank you!!!
This place did not have elevators, so we had to tote everything up a flight of stairs. All rooms were outside rooms, not indoor. Not something we expected especially in 20 degree weather. The beds had huge lumps in the middle of them due to the mattress pads I guess. The light above the sink flickered so much, it would send you on a psychedelic trip after a while. Breakfast was fine. Checkout was easy.
They will tell you one price and bill you another, much higher. I would not recommend Best Western to my worst enemy let alone a friend. Telling the truth is not something they do. House keeping was ok, they don't do what you ask on there information cards.
This is our favorite place to stay when we travel to the area for snow skiing. Clean room, nice workout room, very tasty hot breakfast, and very friendly front desk staff. Convenient location to either Sugar or Beech mountain resorts. We stayed there twice last winter and are going again next week.
We prayed for snow and as we pulled into the parking lot, it was snowing! Shannon and Caren were such a pleasure to work with in trying to plan for our family vacation! My daughter turned 13 during our stay and everyone was so kind. The restaurant staff were always so friendly and accommodating! Mary was such a joy on our last morning there. The housekeeping staff was fantastic and always cleaned our room spotless! We were quite messy and they always folded our personal blankets and placed our child's stuffed animals so cute on the bed. Great experience!!
We wanted to go up for a ski trip and to see snow, but the weather just didn't work out. The hotel staff was great and very knowledgeable of the area. They showed us quite a few places where we could go and do stuff with kids. All the staff restaurant recommendations were spot on!
This is one of my perennial favorite hotels when traveling with my dog. As always, it was a MOST enjoyable experience. The quality of the hotel service and the quality of the breakfast items stand out. I would not consider anyplace else in the area when traveling with my dog. I would rate this hotel higher, but the weekend rates were in effect. It is high season for this hotel right now. The weekday rates are usually MUCH lower.
This is our second visit to your BW location in Banner Elk. No surprises. The staff was very accomodating and worked with me when I needed to change reservation dates and give us adjoining rooms. The rate I was charged for the room was very reasonable, and when you factor in the complimentary full breakfast, it really is a great value. We will be back same time frame next year.
The king size bed was very comfortable and welcoming. Better than most other pricy hotels. Everything else in the room was adequate yet dated. The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast did not include a waffle maker.... Only microwave pancakes. No thanks.
We have stayed here three times now and will probably return. Good value, Good location to everything in that area. Friendly service and clean. The only negative is that we checked in on a Thursday and wanted to stay Friday but they were all booked up.
The staff is wonderful here, very helpful and nice. Really good fitness center, free popcorn and coffee at night in the main building. The room amenities are fine, though a bit outdated. Love the beds, however, very comfy. I always stay here when working in this area.
Delightful hotel with outstanding staff, all the usual excellent amenities, lovely breakfast lady, and a cozy lobby with a historical treasure-trove for kilt-lovers. If you've a wee bit o' Scotch in your blood and want to know which plaid belongs to which clan - spend some time perusing the handsomely-framed kilts & crests adorning the lobby walls - very interesting! Also, they have feather beds! (Not in the lobby).
This was a great experience for our first stay at a Best Western! Everyone went out of their way to help make our stay a good one. Breakfast was great and the lady hosting the area went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed. Front office called after we were in our room to see if we needed anything.
We are rewards club members. Upon check in, staff made my wife fill out all sorts of paper work concerning pets, smoking, etc. We never were treated as rewards members at all. Room cards did not work. Took them back and was accused of some how wiping the cards. We wanted a suite, but were given 2 double beds in a rather small room. Tried to up grade and was told that was the best they could do. In terms of price, this BW is higher than comparable BWs in size. Should have gotten more for the money. Even though the hotel is less than 15 miles from Boone, it is not a "short" drive. 2 lane highway navigates several mountain slopes making fast progress difficult. The reality is that this hotel would be annoying if you were doing business specifically in Boone. Besides the cramped room, the shower stall had stucco above it that appeared to be developing black mold. Internet, parking, and TV selections were all very good. Breakfast was really good. Large breakfast room with more choices than typical BW. Female attendant was super friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the breakfast very much. It was the best part of the stay. If we ever go back to Boone, we would definitely stay in Boone proper and avoid going out in search of a BW despite our rewards membership. This was an average stay at best with a higher than average price tag. Rooms were clean but in need of some up dates. Exterior landscaping needs some help as well.
All ground floor rooms here with a sitting area in the center of the complex. The thing to watch is the double bedded rooms are double bed sized. They are soft and comfy just small feeling. Breakfast was hot fresh cooked with real scrambled eggs, sausage, grits, and gravy. But the extras you might expect like waffles or pacakaged oatmeal were not available. But I can say the staff was very proactive, considerate, and watched for ways to serve their guests. We would stay again. The rooms were clean looking and clean smelling.
We have stayed at Best Western in Banner Elk for the last two years during Appalachian's Family Weekend. Very clean and rates are more reasonable than most other hotels in the area. Definitely recommend it.
We stayed at the Best Western Mountain Lodge at Banner Elk this past weekend (Halloween weekend). It's older, but it is very well maintained, and our room was very clean. The staff is friendly, professional and accommodating. We will definitely be staying there again, and we will recommend it to anyone who plans to stay in the area.
The staff was friendly, especially the server at breakfast! She made you feel like you were eating with family instead of a motel restaurant. 3/4 of the rooms weren't available due to a large party that had checked out earlier in the day. This was my only complaint. Will stay there again if in the area.
My husband and I stayed at this hotel because it was close to activities we had planned. The clerks at check-in and check-out were very friendly and helpful. The room; however, did not meet with the price charged. The mini-frig froze everything we put in it, and the shower hardly had any water pressure. The rooms need to be updated. All in all our stay was okay. It was quiet.
This was one of our best pet friendly hotels that we have found and in a very nice resort area. First, the front desk staff could not have been nicer. This hotel was like a ski lodge, with the lobby area large and comfortable with a beautiful, inviting fireplace which was lit. There were comfortable chairs all around so you could hang out in the lobby. The room was one of our best we have had, two large comfortable beds, plenty of room, a flat screen tv, plenty of towels and very, very clean. I could not believe all this and they welcomed my yellow lab Cody. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay there again on any future visits.
Traveling with 2 of our Grandchildren. We really felt welcome here. Our room was clean and well stocked. Needed an extra bath cloth and they bought that to our room. Beds are very soft. They only have double beds, but hey, queens and kings use not to exist. We slept fine. Staff was very friendly and helpful. They have a breakfast bar and a very friendly lady working that as well. Would recommend this Hotel any time. Great job done by all.
Went to the Blue Ridge mountains for a Fall color viewing trip. Found this place on line and booked for a long weekend. The rooms were a little small, but clean. The staff were very helpful and courteous and the location was beautiful.
My wife and I stayed in this edition of the Best Western on a long weekend trip to the Banner Elk/Boone area. It's an enjoyable budget motel with everything you'd expect from the price range. The lobby area is charming with interesting displays highlighting the region's Scottish heritage. The staff were friendly and helpful during check in as well. Our room was comfortable if a little noisy. If you're sensitive to neighbor noise I'd recommend asking for a room on the end of the building. The walls were a little thin at times during our stay but we accept that when you're living within a couple hundred square feet from hundreds of other people you have to be realistic and understanding. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area. The price can't be beat considering it's in a popular resort area.
There are not a lot of choices for Hotel stays in Banner elk but it is nice. It's a little dated but the staff try real hard to make you feel at home. They are very helpful and make the stay worth wild.
Stayed the weekend of the Woolley Worm festival so the hotel was sold out. The lobby is beautiful, beds comfortable, staff friendly and location is perfect. Hotel has been updated but the walls are Very thin. We were awakened by screaming, crying kids at 6 am both mornings. The air/heater is very loud since it is an older floor model under the window. I would still recommend the hotel.
Usually we can't get into this hotel, as it's booked or priced higher than our budget. Booking early was the key. We were pleasantly surprised to find such great amenities here such as a pool, tiki bar area, grills, picnic tables, HOT popcorn machine & gourmet coffee in the lobby and a great fireplace-lounge area by the lobby. Our new favorite Banner Elk hotel !! GREAT staff
Best Western in Banner Elk is, by far, the best option around. Breakfast is enormous and is included in the price of your stay. They have pet friendly rooms for only $10 more per night, complimentary popcorn and coffee all day long, free wifi, and it is less than 2 miles from Banner Elk, making it very walk-able. There is a great Mexican restaurant (Puerto Nuevo) nearby an several other food options. Two grocery stores relatively close...I could go on and on.
Quick weekend trip to see the leaves changing. This hotel was perfect, comfy, cozy, and in the middle of the Boone, Banner Elk attractions. Between grandfather mountain and the ghost train of Tweetsie this hotel gave us the rest we needed to keep on adventuring!
Best Western Mountain Lodge is beautiful. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. The beds will give you a great nights sleep. The staff is friendly and quick to answer any questions. The breakfast is tasty and the server is friendly and makes sure you know what is available and where to find everything. You can't find a better place to stay.
A real nice place to stay, and beautiful view out our window. The room was comfortable and clean. The ladies at the front desk were very helpful and professional. I really enjoyed the lounge with the burning fireplace. The morning breakfast was really great. Hot grits with biscuits and gravy were a plus. The lady who worked the dining room was very nice, and was always checking on people. She was absolutely wonderful and greeted everyone with a smile. I would recommend this place to anyone staying in the area. I will definitely be back next year.
Nice hotel in a great location! The feather bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was hot with a nice selection. WiFi worked well. Staff took the time to recommend eating establishment. No complaints at all.
We stayed at this location for 1 night in September 2015. it was not worth the price. We got a 1st floor room with 2 double beds, and they were TINY. My husband and I had to sleep in seperate beds because there was no room for 2 people to fit in the bed. The bathrooms are very outdated. The only thing that was good about our stay was the hot breakfast. They had great biscuits and gravy.
A lack of planning on my part led to me having a very bad day. We was displaced from my vacation home for several days and I stayed at the mountain lodge and it absolutely turned my mood around. The room was great but I really have to commend the front desk staff. Every issue we were having (not related to our stay) the lady at the desk was either able to make a call and help me out or she could point us in the right direction. It rained our entire stay but the lady there had so many suggestions on things we could do in spite of the bad weather. I've been vacationing here for years and had no clue all the different things to do. I'm not good with names, im fairly certain it started with a C or a K. Much needed R&R.
The staff was friendly and courteous. After checking in we asked what the pool hours were, to be told it had closed for the season. That's what we get for assuming a “heated” pool would be open later in the year! The rain made for a slippery walkway around the pathways as they were tile, so you really had to watch your step. The attendant at the breakfast area was very welcoming and friendly and the breakfast was tasty and sufficient.
Granted there are not a lot of name brand hotels in Banner Elk, mainly "Mom & Pop" options or you can rent a home/condo to stay in. I looked for hours at options while planning our trip, thinking we would prefer anything to the Best Western. During peak times, it is hard to find somewhere that is reasonably priced, so I conceded and booked the Best Western. To say I was plesantly surprised is an understatement. All of the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The General Manager, Shannon volunterally offered to book dinner reservations for us and made other recommendations for dining options during our stay. The complimentary, hot breakfast bar was much better than many we have had in other hotels . Cant say much for the eggs, but the grits, sausage and other options were a good quality. Nice variety too, with cereal, yogurt, breads and pancakes. The only room available was a pet friendly room, but the staff made sure there were no hairs left over from pets. Quality of bedding and towels were what I normally see in much more expensive hotels. The decor could use a little updating as the chair was looking tired and worn, but that is my only complaint. My doubts are gone and I would not hesitate to stay at a Best Western again, especially when we are in Banner Elk.
The entire staff and employees made this location a most pleasant visit. The property is clean and well maintained and professionally operated. It is centrally locate and easily accessed with multiple dining and recreational areas. The Best Western at Banner Elk, NC gets my highest recommendations.
The sevice was excellent. Even had a welcome bag for my dog. The rooms were well equipped, immaculate, and contained amenities you expect to find in much more expensive hotels. The entire staff was extremely courteous and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was excellent and the server made you feel very welcome. A totally enjoyable experience.
