Check in and out process is so smooth, hotel is near all amenities and restaurants, rooms are good compared to the price, pillows are the best when compared with other hotels .. breakfast is exceptional, you get to choose the dish and made fresh/hot for you

Room exceptionally clean. The staff very friendly. The hotel is close to the Regional hospital which was important to us due to a family member requiring admittance there. It is also close to downtown restaurants.

Staff were very friendly! Building needs repairs/upgrades but was very clean. Breakfast was delicious and their set up is very efficient. I requested a late check out and they honored it with no issue.

Beds are comfortable. Room is clean. This is an older hotel. The rooms are small especially the bathrooms. Desperately needs a renovation. Great location. Easy walking to the waterfront. Close the the CAT Ferry pier. Wonderful and friendly staff.

This is a great place to stay right near where the cat and loads the cars. It's a short distance to the cat. They have a excellent breakfast, hot breakfast and cold breakfast. The rooms were good shape and clean. I would return and plan to you will enjoy.

Great staff and breakfast. Clean, quiet, close to downtown and just a few minutes to the CAT ferry. They have a nice continental breakfast, and you add your 'cooked to order' hot entree to it. Very good.

The hotel is older and dated but clean. The bed was comfortable. There's road noise if you face the front but I did notice there are rooms in the back that face a field area or vacant lot. There is no elevator if you are on the second floor. There was a bit of a closed up smell to the room but there are windows that open so the fresh air did wonders. The breakfast was your standard hotel breakfast but they have you pre order some of the cooked items when you check in and have it ready for you in the morning

Super convenient when arriving on the CAT ferry from Bar Harbor. Very friendly, helpful, and welcoming staff. Clean, well appointed room with comfortable bed. Relatively quiet for being situated on a main road. Good breakfast options for grab and go plus delicious hot meal made to order. Would not hesitate to stay again! Also thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Forchu lighthouse grounds!

Quaint hotel not far from the ferry arrival terminal. After a mix up with our reservations was resolved we had a nice stay. The continental breakfast has to be ordered the night prior but was quality fare cooked fresh. There are several points of interest nearby that can be visited before heading to Halifax.

Over the years we've taken 4-5 vacation trips to Nova Scotia by ferry boat with overnight stays at this property coming and going. It's close proximity to the ferry, walking distance to city restaurants, banks, and major shopping / gas 1 mile away are way beyond convenient. Each trip has been a great start here with the updates made to the property. After booking the boat, this is the next reservation made.

Room was neat enough but motel is showing it's age. Not a great night's sleep with noise from surrounding rooms due to plumbing issue and thin walls. Made reservation 5 months ago and although I requested lower level room, it was not to be so had to carry bags up the stairs. Breakfast room was well maintained and staff was excellent with hot food made to order.

The draw here is that it was close to the CAT Ferry. It's an old motel with outside access to small rooms. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable but the pillows (which there were many to choose from) were not comfortable at all. For breakfast we filed out a card asking to choose from a list of available items (eg. Eggs, sausage, oatmeal, etc) and when you arrived they cooked your meal. They also had other continental breakfast items and the food was good. The price was more than we should have paid for this type of accommodations. I would stay somewhere else if we needed to be near the ferry.

We stayed for one night to catch the CAT ferry early the next am. I was pleasantly surprised with this motel. Our room was ready several hours before checkin. The front desk staff were very friendly. The rooms while not fancy were clean and the bed comfortable. The pool was nice, The lobby offered tables that you could use anytime. Breakfast was a choice of eggs cooked in several ways or oatmeal (which could be packed to go). Several others cereals and breads also available. The eggs were very fresh and cooked to order. Location is excellent. My only issue was better lighting in the rooms would have been appreciated.

Very clean! No muss, no fuss but comfortable and perfect for a stay in Yarmouth on our way to Bar harbour. Breakfast was eggs made to order and the staff was super friendly! Pool looked nice but we didn't have time to use it.

Everything was very good. Justin, at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. The only thing I would change is to add an extra step up to the walkway for those who have difficulty in climbing up from the parking lot.

I love the layout of this hotel. I love having my vanity outside from the toilet and tub. The towels were thick and soft. The water pressure would knock any stink or dirt right off you. The staff was super nice from the check in, to the breakfast experience, to the check out. There is a lot of road noise. They had made to order breakfast items that you choose the night before with options of meat and eggs or waffles. The area offered a lot of dining options. I would certainly stay here again. I did laundry here which was easy and convenient.

Stayed there for 3 months and all I can say is that they have clean rooms, awesome sunset view, great breakfast, friendly/supernice Staffs, and the best coffee in the world!(eastcoastcoffee hazelnut). I really love my stay there guys. Shout out to the staffs you all are great! and the lady that cleans the room did some extra by checking if I have enough towels because it was a trainee that cleaned my room that day I appreaciate that.

It looks dingy and worn on the outside, but don't let that fool you. The rooms are very clean, smell nice and the beds are comfortable. The walls are a little thin, but my white noise machine worked wonders for that. The young man who registered me was polite and helpful. I'll stay again.

From the moment of arrival the staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. The room was very clean and quite modern despite the age of the hotel. The beds are a small double but the mattresses are very comfortable. The location is great and we had expected it to be a bit noisy due to the fact that it is on Main Street but it was very quiet and we slept with our window open! The grounds are lovely and well maintained and there is on-site laundry which was convenient. We would definitely stay here again!

Very pleasantly surprised. This was a very last minute reservation when the CAT Ferry was postponed. The nicest front office staff, very accommodating. Room is immaculate and comfortable with everything you would need. I was expecting an old, tired room, but definitely not! Old fashioned drive-up to the door. Would highly recommend, and would stay again without hesitation. Immaculate, efficient, friendly.

The management AND the housekeeping staff are 5 Star. Checking out tomorrow but leave with great memories of cleanliness and first class service. Great spot as you arrive on the CATor the night before you leave. Cannot say enough. We are still here - checking out in the morning. Great hotel.

My family and I stayed here for 4 nights in August and were quite satisfied with this hotel. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The complimentary breakfast was very tasty, and made to order. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The hotel is in easy walking to the heart of Yarmouth.

The lobby is clean and bright and they have very helpful staff. Room was spotless and the WiFi was excellent. Great night's sleep, topped off with a bonus cooked to order breakfast. I can highly recomment this motel.

Arrived on ferry from Bar Harbor. Hotel was easy to find and staff was warm, friendly and very helpful. Only drawback was distance from nice restaurants…. Room and beds were very clean and comfortable. Would definitely recommend this hotel! Kudos to all the staff!

I will not use 3rd party booking, that was a horrible experience. So happy we were cut off. Our friends were not and it was awful for them. But the hotel was wonderful. We did not get to experience the pool. Breakfast was wonderful.

Just a great place to stay with extremely professional staff clean quite and reasonably priced I have stayed in higher end places over the years but the Mermaids staff and overall attention to detail were spot on

Hotel was very clean, staff very friendly and professional, great location. Close to ferry terminal, walking distance to waterfront and dining. Great hot breakfast. Property well maintained. Would nightly recommend this property and will stay here on future visits to this area.

Rooms were very nice and clean, everyone at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. Plenty of restaurants around, we had seafood at the Rudders 50 min wait ,the food was excellent and our waitress was fine, but some of their staff did have a attitude, maybe it is because they are so busy.

We just stopped for the night before catching the ferry the next morning. A cut above some Best Westerns we have stayed in: lots of space, good towels, great water pressure, and a hot breakfast featuring eggs cooked to order, as well as the usual buffet of pastries, cereal, etc. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. Rooms face the main road so you do hear from traffic noise, but not bad.

We chose this hotel because of its close proximity to the Yarmouth Ferry Terminal as well as a local seafood restaurant we intended to dine at We booked a room over a week in advance of our arrival and we were assured we would get the first-floor room that we requested. Sometime in the afternoon as we neared the destination we received a call that the Hotel had overbooked and they offered us a free room at another local hotel. We had researched this location thoroughly and chose it for the reasons I listed above so I gracefully refused their offer fully expecting my reservation to be honored. Upon arrival, I was told that there were no first-floor rooms available and from there it went downhill. We were given a second-floor room and there were no handicap parking sites and no elevator service. We were able to get a parking spot close to the rear stairs and after struggling to get ourselves and our luggage and ourselves up the stairs we decided not to risk giving up our parking spot so we reluctantly canceled our reservations at the Seafood restaurant of our choice and ended up having my wife walk across the street to the KFC and with each bite of the chicken meal we thought about lobster. My low rating of this property is based on the fact that they are not reliable.

Decided to stay overnight in the area last minute. Was impressed to hear that housekeeping had volunteered to stay & get a room ready for us. F/D staff was very friendly & welcoming. Our room was spotless & very comfortable. Will definitely be back.

All the staff but especially the front desk and breakfast staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Very very positive with every encounter we had and that's not easy these days. They all seemed more like family by the time we checked out.

Nice hotel with very friendly service in the heart of the city. easy to find, lots of parking, some rooms overlooking the ocean. breakfast was nice to have hot meal and not just continental breakfast.

I was checked in to a room that had previous pet damage.Part of my deposit was kept claiming my pet did the damage.It never.What a dirty slippery way to make extra money.Never ever check in without hotel personally present to do a thorough inspection of the room prior to occupying it.They'll rip you off!!! Absolutely PATHETIC way to rake in extra money!

I stayed overnight at BW in Yarmouth. The hospitality and friendliness of staff was top notch. They were eager to give us some great ideas of places to visit around the South Shore. I look forward to staying at BW in the future.

We found the location to be ideal for exploring the old downtown part of town. We had bikes but it is easily walkable. If you like craft beer there are 2 breweries very close by. The room was spacious and quiet...we had a rear facing one. There was a pool that looked inviting but we arrived too late to take advantage. The included breakfast was excellent. Eggs were cooked for you when you arrived in the dining area and the super friendly staff were more than helpful!!! You felt like real guests!! I recommend staying here for sure.

The staff at the Best Western Mermaid in Yarmouth went above and beyond my entire stay. The front desk staff were friendly and attentive at the breakfast, always asking if I needed more and if I was enjoying myself. The room cleaning staff, as well, stopped me to ask if there was anything they could do to make y room more comfortable. The Eastern hospitality really shone through, I felt very at home!

Great staff rooms are a hit and miss. No microwaves in any room so sucks when staying for work purposes. And I stay away a lot for work so not having one is a big downfall.Spot less rooms all cleaned amazing. Great view of sunset

Rooms are a little dated but perfectly functional, huge and spotlessly clean. The staff could not possibly be friendlier and the included hot breakfast was always delivered with a smile. I felt at home for the four days of my stay.

I stayed here for four nights and other than the pre-made coffee tasting bad, I have no complaints. The fresh eggs and sausage with a paper bag full of other food items was nice way to start the day. The room was exceptionally clean. The staff were all very friendly. Sure it's not the most modern or fanciest place but it did a great job at giving me everything I was looking for in a place to stay for not a lot of money.

The heater/air was so loud that the TV could not be heard It did not help that you could not turn it up. Was on the first floor and every time water was run above you could hear it loudly through the wall.

I needed to stay in Yarmouth and I was very impressed in all areas of this facility . Service was great. Breakfast was great. It was very clean and an excellent price. The only negative thing I saw was that to get up to wlking area there was no ramp anywhere that I saw. which could make it unacceptable for mobility. Butv that is something that can easily be corrected. This is where I will stay when I go to Yarmouth and have to stay over,.

I love when you book a budget motel and it exceeds your expectations. The room was clean, the kitchen area is a little aged for sure but they also put in a newer fridge. The kitchenette in the room had all the dishware and cookware one would need to make meals in their room (we didn't need to do that but everything appeared clean and in working order). The room was very clean, beds were comfy, internet worked great, relatively quiet but I can see where it could be noisy if hotel is full of guests - walls are thin. View of the water from the upper floor was lovely. Staff on front desk were friendly and helpful - and the included "grab and go" breakfast was a big added bonus! Also, free parking and pet friendly(although I didn't bring mine on this trip). Just a really lovely experience overall.

Wake up call was in error waking me at 4:50 am, was told i was going to be offered bonus points for the mistake but only received half of the points they told me I was going to get. Just noticed this in my history and have not contacted the hotel yet.

I had a very clean and quiet room near the office. A comfortable bed to sleep in. The staff in the office were very helpful when I needed some typing done on short notice. The Mermaid will be my motel of choice the next time I am in Yarmouth.

We stayed in lots of Best Western hotels in US and in Canada most of the times in Ontario were we live. It was our family vacation first time in Nova Scotia and we stayed over night at Best Western Mermaid and I have to say from the whole family it's the best and the cleanest Best Western ever. Everything was absolutely excellent starting from the moment we entered the door. The hostess was extremely polite professional and very knowledgeable to answer our 100 questions. We had a huge RV and she gave us spot at the back not to bother anyone with two joint rooms. Excellent hot breakfast to start the day and get back on the road. When we will go back again to Nova Scotia Yarmouth this is the place we will stay again and recommend to anyone. Thank you Best Western Mermaid

The staff were very helpful and professional. I have paid a lot more for a room at other hotels and got a lot less for the money. I have heard that some people complained about the bagged breakfast, For the last year or so we have been in the midst of a pandemic. They had to curtail their breakfast nook. recently I have had to travel a lot. Very rarely did I get to have a free breakfast with my room. I was grateful to have been afforded this extra service and even though it was in a bag, the staff did their utmost to continue a service under trying circumstances. They could have discontinued breakfast altogether as other hotels have that I have stayed at. The employees along with the owner should receive credit instead of bad reviews. I am hoping that the next time I go there that there will inside dining allowed and the pandemic will be a thing of the past if not I will gratefully accept my bagged breakfast and make the very best of it. PS. The muffins ( Blueberry) were great my compliments to the baker.

Only stayed one night. Great pool as we were very hot driving on a motorcycle all day. Got a drive up room so we could park in front. Someone in our spot and staff was very quick to get that person to move so we could park our bike right in front. Other guest was very accommodating and staff also. We appreciated this very much. Would stay again.

Once the renovations are completed this hotel will be a 5 star! The staff was professional and always willing to help. The covid breakfast was efficient and delicious, they even had non diary yogurt for my vegan son. We had the hottest weather on record and really took advantage of the pool. My adult children and parents equally enjoyed the lovely pool area.

Stayed two nights in late June. Rooms were clean and had all amenities needed.. Front desk staff were helpful and pleasant. Good value for price. Close by several eateries. Coffee in room. Great coffee bar at reception. Bagged breakfast was good.

Booked Best Western for a quick overnight stay in Yarmouth. Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable from booking to check out. Rooms are updated, clean and comfortable. Covid has made some amenities unavailable (pool, buffet breakfast, ice machines) but didn't effect our stay any.

Cute little motel very clean and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Due to COVID they provided a brown bag breakfast which was exactly what we ordered and had personalized messages on them. If we go back to Yarmouth, we will definitely stay here again!

The staff are always courteous & attentive!!! All Covid-19 protocols are taken serious and adhered to... Great value for the money!!! Perfectly located with a great view of the water. Yes, there is a Timmy's within walking distance!!!

We picked the Best Western because usually they are nice hotels. It looks good from the outside, the front desk lady was nice. The suite with kitchenette is very outdated. The kitchenette is very old and run down and the bathroom too. Was not impressed at all. The duvets are lumpy, like stones in the duvet cover and when I asked about it I got the snippy answer that happens when you have to wash them all the time. Not amused at all! The bathroom was not clean and also old, with rims around the tiny sink surrounding where the dirt has built up, gross. The walls are paper thin, we could hear the neighbours talk half the night, and they did not scream. Why do you have to occupy rooms next to each other if you know that the walls are so thin, I think there were maybe 5 to 6 rooms occupied.... I will not stay here again, sleepless night under a lumpy duvet!

Overall it was OK, the Breakfast even thought was a bag breakfast was excellent. Room was fairly big and comfortable, beds are only double so sharing was tight. We found an earwig in one of the beds, and a spider on the side table, when we called the front desk, she passed it off to the manager for the AM, not the best way to handle it. The young girl at check in was great, got the extra towels and sheets we asked for right away - this was why I gave her a very good score and not average, bc she did not do well about the bugs. BC of the bugs I gave the cleanliness and room only Average.

BW service and quality is typically good. Although this was a last minute decision to stay and the front desk staff could only provide what was available. Noticed the smell of weed outside of front door, in lobby, and in room. Breakfast was 'just OK'

Great stop on our trip. Close to everything in Yarmouth. Very happy that the pool was open after a very hot day. Breakfast was a little different because of the virus but there was lots of choices for the bagged breakfast.

Average accommodations, the pool and deck are excellent. The three front desk staff members we interacted with were outstanding, truly dedicated to their jobs, often a thankless task, thank you! The rooms were clean and neat, the street noise can be heard and the air conditioner was so loud you just had to accept it or not sleep. Terrible noise from the bar fridge as well. I did enjoy the shower water pressure after a day at the beach. We found the king size mattress we slept on to be uncomfortable.

Hotel is kept in great condition, clean, great to have breakfast with a variety of options included. Convenient location, easily accessible. Would recommend to groups, singles, or families. Reliable Internet, parking close to room.

Great place to stay. It has everything you need and really warm and welcoming staff. Great breakfast and very clean rooms. Beds are comfy and desk space/armchair was a perfect place to cozy up to work or read.

We had a holiday in Canada and found this hotel, it seems to be more of a motel than a hotel. The location is good but it was not clear that the pool was outside and closed during our stay. The facilities are what you expect from a motel but this was the most expensive room that we paid for during our stay so it was a little disappointing, the staff are very helpful but overall it was not good value for money.

A side trip to this lovely town and a very nice accommodation. The room was perfect for an overnight stay. We had a very smooth check-in and were given some suggestions for dinner that night. Bed was so comfortable, we both fell right to sleep and slept great. Shower was not and hot with strong water pressure. No noise from the outside and A/C and heater both worked great. I would stay here again. Breakfast was good and plentiful Really good coffee.

Our room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. We where just passing by so we stay only one night. What I did love the most that there was a floating floor instead of a smelly carpet wow I was impress about that. The receptionist was great she made a mistake and gave us the wrong key (door locks was recently changed to a new one) and when I gave her a call and ask her how I open the door and she notice the mistake and ran upstairs to change the key instead of us coming down to the lobby....thanks you.

Yarmouth is a very friendly town & the staff at BW were cheerful & friendly. Interacted well with the guests. Room was clean & had all the amenities. Great breakfast & dining area, plus tea/coffee were available in the dining area in the evening. Would stay again!

This hotel once had a ramp into the front lobby and walkway. It has been removed. It is no longer accessible to those with mobility issues. Backwards instead of forward. Ice machine is up 2 flights of stairs - no elevator. Don't expect a quiet night if someone is in room above yours.

The hotel has been renovated in the last 6 months and is clean and well maintained. The rooms are a bit small. The breakfast is adequate. There were pre-made waffles the day we were there. The woman at the desk in the morning showed us around the breakfast room, indicating where everything was and was very friendly. When we arrived the previous evening the person at the desk gave us lots of information about where to have a nice walk in town and suggested places to eat. Our stay was pleasant.

This is an old styled motel where you pull up to your room door & park right there. Very handy for carrying one's luggage in & out to your vehicle. The rooms are accessible via outside hallways on both floors. We were greeted by a friendly gal who checked us in quickly & proved information on restaurants & local information etc. The rooms are adequate, & clean, but not fancy. The pool is outdoor so weather dependent. The free breakfast is the normal affair one expects at this type of hotel. We would stay here again especially if just passing through as it fits our needs as clean, convenient, & lower cost.

Stayed at BW Yarmouth in August 2019. Looked at reviews and many though the breakfast was great, I disagree. Advertised as hot breakfast, had microwaved sausage patties and COLD boiled eggs, was told when we arrived at the dining area that no not scrambled eggs available. Disapointed. Also, the price of the room was high in my opinion plus we were charged $30 surcharge because we had a dog. That to me is too much, $10 is plenty. If more is needed to cover the cost of damage that might happen then do it as a refundable security deposit. There were rooms allotted for pets and their owners so why charge the $30 fee? So, for a room that cost us (2 adults + our dog) over $200 it was not worth it and will think twice before booking it again.

Terrible service, room was musty and damp. Noise heard above and on sides of room. The smell was foul and air conditioner was not working properly. Checked in at 12:30 exhausted and got to room and keys did not work had to go back to front desk , agent had not scanned the cards. The cost was 179.00 for one night and I would of had a better sleep in my car, horrible experience for the cost! Poor value!!

I would highly recommend any Best Western as the place to stay. They have a great breakfast with a great selection of options. The rooms are very clean and the staff are very nice. They also go above and beyond to make your stay memorable.

We stay at the Best Western from July 18th till July 21st. It was excellent, clean, breakfast was great. Really enjoyed visiting. Highly recommended. There are many different amenities around. You really don't need a car. The rooms were great. Comfy bed and very clean. The pool was cleaned every morning.

We enjoy visiting Yarmouth and staying at the BW Mermaid. Friendly staff, clean functional accommodations, a nice pool, excellent breakfast & location make staying here worthwhile! We enjoyed the nice touch of having fresh local strawberries with our breakfast

My stay at this property was a positive experience overall. I was with a group that had 3 rooms together. Speaking about my own room, it was clean and in good condition. Beds were comfortable, with modern linens. While the building isn't new, it has been kept up to date and the renovations are of good quality. Staff were friendly. We took advantage of the complimentary breakfast. The selection wasn't as large as some hotels, but there was a full hot breakfast and staff attended to it regularly. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at this location again.

The facilities were fresh and clean and inviting. Staff were friendly. The pool's heating unit was not working but the staff continued to maintain the pool and the entire facility including the pool was clean.

The people that work there were great. No knock on anyone there it is more the physical layout and location. Location, it is tight on Main Street, and near an intersection with a light. Which means traffic stops, then accelerates when it turns green. If it is a motorcycle, it is loud! Apparently a lot of motorcycles in that area. Physical layout, the bathroom/shower area is TINY. Barely turn around in it. The sink/vanity is outside that room and within the bedroom. If you are a large person you will have problems. I am average size and had issues getting in and out of the bathroom. If you just need a single night stay, it is tolerable since it is close to the ferry. But I wouldn't do an extended stay there. The staff though were personable and helpful.

A very pleasant, well run and convenient place to stay. The room was quiet, very clean and well tended. Having a full breakfast was a pleasant surprise, and one that we appreciated. the desk staff was particularly pleasant and efficient,

I would not recommend anyone stay here when the weather is cold and the wind is blowing. The room was drafty and the wind whistled through the door frame. I tried to seal the window frames with toilet paper and towels but it kept blowing out.

We arrived as a group, 15 check-ins consecutively. This took a bit of time, but the sole clerk behind the desk was very proficient and friendly, not at all shook buy the number of people checking in all at once. Clean room, very accommodating of our hockey group. Breakfast was hot and fresh. Pleasant stay overall.

The hotel is in an excellent location if you take the ferry (The Cat) to America early in the morning. The harbour is just 5 minutes away by car.The optimal location to the harbour is probably the reason why the price of the room in relation to the condition of the room is rather at the upper limit (extremely small WC / bathroom).But the most important thing is that the rooms are clean and maintained. We recommend a room facing away from the street.The staff is super friendly and courteous throughout. We like to remember this hotel back.

Very helpful and friendly staff at this hotel. We stayed there for one night on our way to Cape Breton National Park, and accidentally left a jacket behind in the room. They left us two voice mail messages about this which we didn't get until we returned from our trip a week later. They were so helpful when we finally responded, and immediately put the jacket in the mail. In addition the room was very comfortable and the breakfast exceptional. Thanks to everyone at The Mermaid; you are all amazing!

We visit Yarmouth annually as its a beautiful coastal part of Southwest Nova Scotia. We enjoy staying at the BW Mermaid if the rate is a good one (it seems to fluctuate yearto year). It is drive-up motel style but always clean and comfortable and is within walking distance of downtown. The breakfast is much better at this hotel than the Comfort Inn and te staff are always especially friendly and helpful.

Booked a return visit to this hotel as it was close to the ferry that we needed to catch early the next day. Room was clean and staff was friendly, however, the noise level from other guests taking showers kept us up past 1 a.m. and then again other guests getting up early at 5 a.m. and showering. The amount of light that came in through the windows at night even though they had light darkening coverings made it so that no lights were needed to walk around the room.

Welcoming staff. Very extensive tasty breakfast with thoughtful extras like almond milk and toppings for cereal or yoghurt like chopped walnuts and dried cranberries. The hot selections were tasty too.

Staff was very friendly. Very good breakfast - served early enoughfor those catching ferry. Room was good. A little noisy due to being on a busy road but great location for catching the ferry and nearby restaurants. Also near Cape Forchu which is a beautiful spot.

This was an 'arrived late, left early' situation. It's a motel but it was clean, comfortable beds, strong wifi, pleasant check in staff. The best part was the breakfast. They opened it early as there were many people who needed to get to the ferry early. Food was hot and good. Basic eggs, sausage, muffins, etc. But eggs were light and fluffy and hot! I would certainly stay there again without hesitation if I couldn't find a good B&B.

Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights after coming over on ferry. Very convenient to ferry location. This hotel suits my needs with all usual accessories. It is clean and efficient. We checked in late in the evening and the woman at front desk was very friendly, we got exactly what we wanted without asking. Would recommend anytime. This is actually 2nd time I have been there. And some improvements were made since then.

We like Best Westerns so when going to Nova Scotia I chose the Mermaid Yarmouth. It was very clean, wonderful room and great mattress, we had room 227 which was very quiet. It was dog friendly. I certainly will return if we go to Nova Scotia again. A perfect stay. Jill Dorrant and Corine Edwards were most friendly staff.

Location is the best thing about this hotel. Courteous staff, clean rooms, and breakfast in the lobby was a welcome extra. It's a short ride to the CAT ferry terminal, less than five minutes, and make sure you ride out to the Cape Forchu lighthouse!

We booked this hotel for a stay on the night before we took the ferry to Portland, ME, and it was great for a night's rest before the journey. The pool was clean, and great to cool off in after our day of driving from Halifax. The breakfast is great, and even though it is self-serve, there is a staff member on hand to help you with anything questions that you may have. The hotel is about three minutes from the ferry dock, so it is very convenient for an early morning departure.

We took a chance on a last minute room. It was just what we needed. The front desk young woman was so very very acomodating. We wanted a queen or king room and they did not have any left. She offered to find one in town for us or take a look at thier double bed room. We looked, we liked, we stayed

We were looking for a Hotel close to the ferry, and this place was perfect. A nice clean establishment with friendly staff and laundry facilities.The complimentary breakfast sure 'hit the spot'. Highly Recommended !

Our stay at this hotel was great. The room was extremely clean with quality soaps, shampoo, & conditioner. The beds were super comfortable. The small refrigerator in the room was a plus. The air conditioner was a plus & it ran quietly, another plus. This was located close to the waterfront & CAT Ferry. It was easy to stroll to the waterfront for a pleasant walk & to go to a restaurant nearby. There were a few fast food restaurants nearby that one could also walk to. The breakfast was good with staff asking if you needed anything, very helpful and kind. Highly recommended

Small motel with great service. Jill was our breakfast hostess. She was so pleasant and helpful. She gave everyone great local information. Very knowledgeable about the area with suggestions as we drive up the coast. She treated us like we were guests in her home. Thank you so much for that personal touch

Beds and rooms are comfortable enough. Outdoor pool is right on Main Street so best you are not shy. Get to breakfast early because they will put the entire thing away if you don't get down. They will bring you back out what you ask for but... The maintenance and room staff are very friendly. The front desk staff not so much so at all. Amy shouldn't be working in the service industry at all. Been here before and lodged complaints about her attitude and was told by the management she'd be spoken with. Gave it a few years that we wouldn't stay there. Figured we'd try it again. That was the last time. Only so much bad attitude anyone can take. Our bill was wrong. We are CAA members and she wouldn't correct our bill. Even when we were told the day before it was corrected. Her "he's wrong and shouldn't have told you that" didn't help. Stay at the Rodd Grande down the street or the Comfort Inn on Starrs Rd. You'll regret that bad attitude of the front desk staff here...IMO.

My family stayed to be close to the ferry. I read reviews about the rooms being outdated but clean. While there were some fixtures that could be updated, everything was in working condition. I really can't say enough about the cleanliness of the rooms. Spotless!

There are not a lot of places to choose from in Yarmouth, but I was expecting more based on the price. Rooms have outside doors and windows that overlook the parking lot and a busy street. You can tell that the room had been partially remodeled, but the vanity top was uncomfortably low and the original (?) bathroom door was delaminating at the bottom. Didn't like the bugs (earwigs) crawling on the towels either. Complained and received ~10% discount. I would have rather that they spent the money on a good pest control program.

Easy and quick to get to from the Bay Ferry crossing, Portland, ME to Yarmouth, NS. Arriving at nighttime, in the fog, to an unfamiliar place, it was great to have to travel only minutes to a clean and comfortable motel. The check in was quick, the staff were helpful in providing directions to local stores, and sites to see in Yarmouth. Breakfast was included, which was plentiful and had an amazing variety. Washer and dryer on site if needed. Plenty of parking available. Only complaint is that the plumbing noise from neighboring rooms when shower or toilet is used is loud, and water cut out completely in the shower when the sink in the room was in use. Rooms are updated and clean, beds comfortable, and internet service, TV worked well.

This was a great stop at the end of our Canadian Maritime trip. Quick stay...checked in at 6pm and checked out at 6:15 the next morning for the ferry. First floor room at this motel was very convenient to unloading the car. Check-in was easy and very friendly. Room was spotless, The wood/laminate floors are a nice touch instead of carpet. Breakfast was delicious (make your own egg sandwiches plus lots of other choices). Morning front desk and breakfast staff were so nice (even at 6am when we had breakfast before heading to the ferry back to Portland). Very nice stay and very convenient to the Cat ferry which is right down the road.

Convenient location to the ferry dock. Comfortable room, and easy parking outside our first floor room. Room was spacious,clean,and a comfortable bed! breakfast was sufficient with a very clean space.

Helpful and quick front desk staff. Clean comfortable room and good breakfast. The pool looked nice, but we didn't get chance to use it. The stairs to the 2nd floor could be a problem for some guests, there are no elevators.

My boyfriend and I took a motorcycle trip to Nova Scotia to ride the Cabot Trail. We booked the 6 hour long "CAT" ferry from Portland, ME to Yarmouth, NS mainly to save time. We booked the Best Western Mermaid because it was so close to the ferry. We stayed there on our first night, and our last night in Nova Scotia and it turned out to be a Godsend. After a rocky 6 hour ride on the CAT, we were so happy to ride off that ferry and get to the hotel quickly, especially since it was almost 10PM and the fog was as thick as pea soup. The staff at the front desk were very nice and friendly and checked us in quickly. We had an upstairs room with 2 beds which were comfortable, with a large HDTV and wi-fi. The room was very clean and the argan oil shampoo and conditioner provided were great for my motorcycle helmet hair. The complimentary breakfast was perfect...lots of bread products, fruit, cereals, beverages, etc. On our last night we got a street level room which was nicer than the first one: king bed, new (non-carpet) flooring and a perfect view of our motorcycle. There is a nice outdoor heated pool that unfortunately we were not able to take advantage of :(. Also there is a KFC and a Taco Bell right across the street. I usually don't like to stay in hotels with exterior doors like this one, but I felt very safe and my boyfriend felt his bike was very safe as well. We had no complaints about this place and would recommend it to anyone visiting NS, especially if you are taking the ferry.

Although they added decent furniture (typical of a best western), the motel itself was weary looking and not sound proof at all. When someone started a shower it sounded like it was in our unit. ?? The hard laminate flooring also made it so we heard every step above us. Definitely felt like we paid too much for this place!!

The Cat ferry from Portland, Maine, gets in late, and the Best Western Mermaid offers convenient accommodations at a reasonable rate. The hotel had sent me a welcome e-mail earlier that day, and the desk personnel were very efficient with check-in. The room was good-size and the bed comfortable. The bath towels were a cut above the usual and the water pressure excellent. Breakfast options were OK, although I usually stick with juice and coffee first thing in the morning. This is an excellent choice for those coming off the ferry or any other visitors to Yarmouth.

We used this as a landing and departing spot for The Cat ferry from and to Portland to Yarmouth NS and back. It was perfect for arrivals. As you arrive in Yarmouth, from the 6 hour ferry ride, you are tired and ready for bed. The ferry arrives well after 9:00PM so trying to find a hotel is not really what you want. They wait up for the ferry so the service is quick and efficient when you get there. The rooms are nothing to speak of but the location is perfect. The rooms were immaculate and it had all you need to sleep the night for an early departure to explore Nova Scotia. On the way back we did the same thing because you must be at the ferry no later than 7:30 AM (go a little early to check in). It has a pool and they have "free" breakfast in the morning. They called it a continental but they had the usual cereals, muffins, bagel, scones, waffles and an egg station with on type of egg each day. It was simple. With coffee and bagel I was happy. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I would do the same thing again if I was taking The Cat.

Convenient to the ferry, but we were not able to get a restful night's sleep due to the smells in the room. Musty & smoke seeping out of the walls. For a non smoking room the smell is unacceptable. I would have stayed overnight at a different hotel, but it was sold out. The room was neat and clean, but our sleep was interrupted with the noise level and smells in the room. This hotel is overpriced for what you get, sorry.

We had just come over from Portland on the ferry, arriving after 9:00 PM local time, so finding a place very close to the pier was important to us. This location was only a mile away and easy to find. Also, a Tim Horton's right across the street for a late evening brew. Location was great, as we have stayed in many Best Westerns, it was as expected. Efficient, a good breakfast to start the day before we hit the trail for our motor trip. I would recommend this location and I would stay here again

Great staff and good location for everything we needed. The only minus for us was that there was a fair amount of noise from the renovations happening with the new post and railing but the visual improvements are going to be beautiful. The workers doing the work were always pleasant and accommodating for making sure tools and cords were out of the way. Overall a great stay

The Best Western Yarmouth seems to be the go-to place for people coming off the ferry from Maine, and with good reason: it's a quick drive from the dock! Check-in was fast and the staff extremely friendly; the room was clean and comfortable, no frills but exactly what we needed. The price was high but for the convenience, it was worth it. It's a good place to stay in Yarmouth.

Went on a motorcycle trip around Nova Scotia and started in Yarmouth and ended in Yarmouth at this hotel. There was some construction but not at night, the place was very quiet. The checkin was as fast as we have had in a long time and the personnel were very friendly. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The hotel is within walking distance to shops and restaurants. The breakfast was good, for free, and the attendant was as friendly as you could ask for, she got us maps and told us about scenic places to see. All in all a very nice visit.

Arrived after a long drive to get to Yarmouth and the hotel was covered in construction mess! I asked if they were loud and she said they didn't start until 8am. She didn't know how to apply my best western points from my other stay at chocolate lake in Halifax. This is a 2 story strip motel being renovated. The rooms smelled. I walked by several people with the doors open as the smell was that bad.IT was clean but it smelled like someone sprayed bug spray? The front desk said the hotel was fully renovated. Maybe by your 10 year old. Terrible updates. Just carpet and wall paper that was peeling off the walls and had huge bubbles in the wall paper because its installed improperly. The sink and vanity was straight out of the 60's. You have to squeeze by all the laundry in the main hallway to get to the stairs. No elevators. You'll have to carry your luggage up. Breakfast was a let down. Full on construction truck view out the main window. No eggs ready , no bacon no sausages. No potatoes or hash browns. As each person arrived for breakfast she just kept apologizing that she was only one person and doing her best to get more eggs cooked. I opted for peanut butter and toast. The butter was hard. She claimed she couldn't put it out of the fridge. hmmm? When I complained about the breakfast and told her it was not a best western hotel she said she would give me a gift for not being satisfied. When i went to the front desk the girl couldn't find my room. I finally just walked away and wished everyone else good luck. Terrible experience. Do not stay here!!! Not much in town to look at. Its a run down town not worth driving all that way to see unless you're catching a ferry to the states. Waste of a 2 hour drive. The staff was pleasant. ITs not their fault. But instead of being able to use my points as i'm a diamond member. She offered to give me a bag of chips and a chocolate bar? very strange. Anyways if you're used to a great best western experience I'm not sure you'll like this place. Not up to par.I paid less at the hotel in Halifax which is a plus hotel with every amenity . This place had a pool . thats it! The price while all the construction was going on should have been discounted until it was complete!!!!

We stayed here overnight before boarding the ferry to Portland. We arrived in late afternoon, and the reception staff kindly advised us to choose an upper floor room so that we wouldn't be disturbed by lodgers arriving from the ferry later in the evening. It was an unseasonably hot day for NS, but the room's AC handled it nicely. The room was clean, and we had plenty of towels. The exterior facade is undergoing renovation, and the furniture in the room seemed new. The breakfast selections were more than adequate with vegetarian and vegan options. And the staff were truly delightful and helpful! A good place to stay in transit!

We used this Mo(ho)tel twice on our trip to NS. We basically used it for a spot to sleep upon arriving off the CAT Ferry and before departing on the CAT Ferry. The establishment is very close (less than 2km) from the ferry terminal. The staff were pleasant, the rooms were clean, everything was in working order. The exterior is very dated but is undergoing renovation. The rooms have been recently renovated. The breakfast was decent (typical motel fare breakfast -- but a large selection of items including many lactose free options!) The kids used the pool for a few hours and the water was a decent temp (despite it being cool outside) and the pool and pool area were basic but very clean.

We had a room next to the stairway and it was quite noisy hearing people going up and down the stairs. If you have the option, choose a room away from it. The rooms at the rear are quieter as you don't hear the street traffic. There really isn't a view to be had in the front. The room was average and the included breakfast was really good. The staff were very friendly.

Stayed 1 night here after The Cat ferry crossing. Lovely staff and clean rooms. The bed was so comfortable I didn't want to get out of bed to go to breakfast. Continental breakfast was nice with eggs, fresh fruit, toast and cereal. Would stay here again.

We stayed here on a weekend trip off season. Liked that breakfast was included although there were not a lot of selections may have been because it is off season. The room was basic but clean and the bed was not to bad which is a compliment from me as beds are important. The room had wifi and a tv. Overall we would stay again. Also liked where it is located although in the summer months I am sure the rooms on the road side get loud from outside noise. We heard some but it wasn't very busy when we were there. For the options in Yarmouth I would say this is one of the better ones, we have stayed in another in the area and preferred this one.

the room was clean & the employees were lovely. we just needed a place to crash that was inexpensive & safe. It turned out to be perfect. It is not the Ritz obviously but it was very clean and perfect for booking it last minute. Front desk & girl at breakfast were extremely upbeat and accommodating.

This is a basic hotel that has been refreshed. Staff is very helpful and it is in a great location within walking distance to restaurants and downtown. There is not a lot of choice in Yarmouth and this brand is trustworthy. Remember this is a remote community - enjoy the town.

We have stayed here many times over the years and I was looking forward to seeing the renovations. The rooms are great; newly redone bathrooms etc. The only disappointments were that we found the bed terribly uncomfortable with the pillows being way too soft (a personal preference, I know) and the bed sagging in the middle so that, as hard as I tried, I couldn't stay on my side and eventually ended up using the other bed. The other issue for me was noise. Running water from upstairs showers was very loud.

The renovations done at this hotel were wonderful. New furniture including new mattresses is what i was told and I believe. The pillows are awesome because they are not too big or hard. . I will be back. Sound proof rooms, dark and quiet. Fan in room was quiet and i could turn it completely off. Has a fridge too.

My husband had an overnight business stay here and it was great! Rooms are clean and cozy. Staff super friendly and accommodating. Nice to have a hot breakfast option with eggs and ham. Definitely has been through some renovations as the previous bad reviews do not reflect what this establishment looks like now. Thank you Best Western for making our stay a pleasure.

One could not ask for better than at this hotel in Yarmouth. I would recommend the Yarmouth Best Western facility to anyone who is looking for quality and value of accommodation, as well as convenience.

This hotel is in a great location. It is affordable. the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Best western rewards are great. No problems. Breakfast was great and had lots of options. Would recommend for families aas well as business travellers.

I travel for work, stay in hotels at least 30 nights a year and have stayed in all of the Yarmouth motels, this is the best for staff and value. It's clean and I find it an easy room to do my work from. Breakfast buffet always good with lots of variety.

Clean small town hotel with great morning breakfast. Selection is limited in the Yarmouth area but would recommend this spot. The room was a little more expensive than hoping to pay but was also a last minute booking. Friendly staff with average size rooms, enjoyed the stay.

Great breakfast on real plates with real cutlery. Recently upgraded rooms. The mattress was very comfortable. Mac Donald's and Tim Horton right close. Has a nice view of the water. About 10 blocks from the ferry terminal.

Had a wonderful trip to Yarmouth for a hockey tournament. Welcoming staff upon arrival and check out. Great selection of breakfast items to start the morning. Beds were a bit soft, I prefer a firm mattress. Rooms were super clean and wifi worked great.

Close to Ferry, would stay again. Room is a little pricy, Seniors should not be put on 2nd floor. No elevator. Breakfast is good, Rooms were clean and well updated with expected for a motel with this price range.

Yarmouth is one of those out of the way towns that has seen better days. It's a great spot to visit with scenery and great folks not to mention the history. This hotel has view of the water and the owners go the extra mile to ensure it's kept in top condition. The rooms are comfie, the hot breakfast is great but most importantly are the people. Service is always with a smile and if you stayed there a few times they will remember you. To me the sign of real service is when a problems occurs. This happened a few time and the reaction was swift and immediate. My internet / cable connection would not work. In 15 minutes a replacement box was in place and I got to see the game. Great spot and it will continue to be my go to place when ever in Yarmouth.

The motel had an upgrade since we were here last.We had a dog room which was quite nice.Lovely breakfast room & a nice hot breakfast.Wonderful area for walking the dog.The staff were very nice.I had a $20 gift card to credit to my bill and the young girl was having a slight problem with it but the lady in the back room came out and sorted it out in record time.My stay there was a good experience.

Very friendly and helpful staff both during registration and during the breakfast hours. An older updated BW that is close to downtown and the Cat ferry dock. Very good hotel breakfast. Front desk staff went beyond normal to get us extended stay after our ferry back to Portland was cancaled due to rough seas.

From the pleasant reception at check-in through to the choice of cold or hot breakfast prior to early departure, the staff and facilities met our expectations. Availability of on-site coin-operated laundry was an added bonus as we are on a extended driving vacation. This facility provides easy access to the ferry terminal for seasonal NS-Maine service via The Cat.

Staff very friendly. Our room was bright and clean. I have stayed in several Best Western hotels and this one was one of the best ones. The breakfast is basic but fine. Definitely recommend it specially if you are coming on the ferry as it is very close to it.

We stayed one night at this hotel. The room was very clean and nice and the bed was very comfortable. Hot breakfast in the morning was great . It was not far from the Cat ferry terminal which we were catching early in the morning

Nothing to complain about. They staff was friendly and the room very clean. The pet friendly room was hard floors and very clean which was a nice surprise. Too many pet friendly hotels have questionable cleanliness standards and stained carpets.

Reception staff was helpful. Complimentary breakfast was average. Very pleased to have a laundry facility. Room was fine. Once again no microwave to heat neck wrap. Not enough sound proofing. Every night we heard someone from the room above.

This is a good hotel and a great location to stay while in this area and we enjoyed the town and surrounding area. The views and photo ops are good. It is easy to take a nature drive in any direction from the area.

We checked in during a downpour, did not know when the rain would stop, and needed to get to the ferry terminal early in the morning. No car - no problem. The motel clerk had a taxi reserved within a couple minutes! Rooms are modern, spotless, and quiet. The hot and cold breakfast is delicious. Their bagels are terrific. Fast food restaurants are next door and also across the street for a quick dash to dinner.

Nice hotel - easy to get to ferry. Extremely comfortable beds. Helpful staff - had lots of people leaving at same time for ferry and worked hard to make sure everyone got breakfast. Good Wifi and easy checkout.

this motel bw was convenient for our needs as we only stayed one night. It was good to have laundry facilities as we needed them at that point in our trip. It was a comfortable room with good internet and breakfast the next morning was just what we needed to get us on our way. We did have an issue with a bw gift card not working but Ann went out of her way to help us solve the issue and all was good in the end! Thanks Ann!!!

Had Reservations for the first night of our birding trip to Nova Scotia. The Ferry was delayed due to engine problems...slower transit...room was waiting, which was nice. Room was clean, warm and well lighted. Typical Canadian Motel chain room. It was relatively expensive $224.99 CDN but remember that you pay town tax @1.2%, Federal Tax at 5% and Provincial Tax at 10%....for nearly everything. We budgeted for it, so it was a non-issue. Free breakfast.

This is not the best Best Western I've stayed in by far. To start with the pool was out of order. The rooms are very clean and well equipped it's just a shame the walls are thin as we could hear there conversations. Breakfast was a experience someone had burnt there toast no one thought to open a door so the place smelt and a blue haze was in the room the whole time!! But once the fresh food came out breakfast was ok

Don't get room 205. Noise from commercial laundry will awaken you IF you manage to get to sleep. Those coming in on the ferry must ascend stairs right next to the room. Ferry comes in at 11 pm so visitors must make a late start to bed hence more noise. Staff is pleasant and breakfast is ok

BW is a good option in Yarmouth. Less than a mile walk from ferry which is not a bad one if you don't have a car. Standard room amenities, bathroom on the small side but ok. Service is good but breakfast area is small and options are limited. Tim Hortons is across the street though which is a better option. Overall it's a decent value and a good option for this location.

This hotel needs a major renovation. More like a 2 star motel. Room only had 2 double beds...no queen. Beds were terrible...lumpy with a big sag in the center of it so we rolled into each other and laid on an angle. Could not fall asleep as it was so uncomfortable. Staff at the front desk very pleasant. Breakfast is okay...nothing great. Location is excellent if you are taking the ferry to Maine the next morning.

Very convenient to the cat ! The staff were very polite and courteous. Had a warm welcome and the room was Clean . The beds where a comfortable. Cable TV was great with Internet access also . Will stay again .

good 3 star motel, but not worth the cost. There are many options for lower cost rooms in the area with the same or better rooms. I would suggest a better discount for seniors and veterans, I am a disabled veteran and a senior. I was very pleased with the staff but the rooms did not constitute the cost for an ordinary motel room. I will not be staying there again.

Clean place with friendly staff to greet you after a long wait to get through customs. The rate seems quite reasonable to me, even before the exchange rate. Enjoyed the breakfast, nothing fancy but nice that is included.

Room is average, breakfast adequate, rate is high considering all else. I asked the front desk to honor a lower online rate I found at BW.com (not a third party) and they refused. There's not a lot to offer here except a pause before the ferry ride home.

One of two motels nearest the CAT Ferry from Portland. Other reviews say it... it's a great place and walking distance to historic downtown Yarmouth. Staff are very knowledgeable, especially about local restaurants. "Instant" breakfast buffet is better than most of this type. Reserved through TripAdvisor; wouldn't do that again. We paid up front, when we got there at 1:00 AM they told us Agoda's payment had been declined. Was worked out the next day, but took some patience ! We stayed at Mermaid on return and paid less than Trip Advisor.

Room was very clean. Beds were pretty good. Frig and microwave, hairdryer provided. Breakfast area was a bit small but food was good, real plates and cutlery. Front desk gal was very friendly. Great overnight stop.

Room was so clean you could eat off the floor! The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was spotless and you couldn't find a dust bunny anywhere, because I looked! Including on top of the light shades for the lamps. Staff were very helpful checking us in at 1:30 in the morning because of a late arrival on the ferry. We were in and out in minutes so we could get to our room and rest. She told us we could leave our vehicle out front if we wished and she was there all night and would keep her eye on it. I highly recommend staying there and will again in the future!

Reception staff was super friendly and accommodating. When we got to the room, we were pleasantly surprised to find a nice, clean, modern hotel room with everything we needed -- there's a mini fridge in the room, flat screen TV, and even a coffee machine and tea - and of course air conditioning. The room was spotless, including the bathroom, and the beds comfortable. Free wifi is available in the rooms, and contrary to what you often get (spotty and/or slow internet connection on free wifi), the signal strength was high (full) and the internet high speed (~20 Mbps both upload and download). For what you get, the price was definitely reasonable. Breakfast (included in the room rate) is served from 6 am near reception. The selection was quite good and everything was fresh. There was a selection of breads/muffins/bagel and other baked goods, cooked eggs & ham, cereals, and yogurts, as well as coffee/tea and juices, as well as a small selection of fresh fruits. All in all, I would highly recommend the Best Western Mermaid as a place to stay in Yarmouth.

Rooms were very clean, friendly and efficient staff, wonderful breakfast! We checked in at 2:00 am and were greeted by smiling faces. So efficient!!! Would definitely recommend this Best Western. I loved the 'wood' floors. Felt cleaner than rugs.

The cost of one night is over priced based on the quality of the room. Very small bathroom with sink outside of the bathroom. Rooms are small. Not much space to move around. Best part of stay was the heated outdoor pool.

It doesn't look like much from the outside, but everything inside has been functional, clean, and very comfortable. The staff is very warm and attentive and the maid service is fantastic. We stayed at a very expensive hotel in Halifax prior to this and, although smaller in size, it rivals it in comfort and service. The shower is great too!

We stayed one night with our three kids while travelling Southwestern Nova Scotia. The room was clean, the pool was awesome and the sunset was spectacular from this location. Conveniently located if you want to walk into town... about 15 min walk. Tim Hortons :) and playground only a block away. Would stay again.

If you need a place to stay in Yarmouth after getting off the ferry, you can't go wrong with Best Western. For a chain motel, it met all of our needs for an overnight stay.. the breakfast and selections were spot on.

We arrived on the CAT ferry, which was 4 hours late, dead tired and more than a little cranky. The desk personnel, at 1 am, were as friendly and welcoming as could be. They dispelled my bad mood entirely. The hotel is spotlessly clean. It looks like it hasn't had a refurbishment in a while, and it looks a little worn, but everything has been maintained very well. The bed was on a very bouncy box spring, so I was glad we had two queens instead of one. The pool is beautiful -- clean, great temperature. The location is on a commercial strip, so it's not really a place I'd spend the day, but it was perfect for a stopover. The people made it special. One quibble: what was billed as "Canadian bacon" on the breakfast bar was hot processed lunch meat that would make any true Canadian blush with shame.

I recommend this hotel if you're traveling on the ferry in or out of Yarmouth this is a great location. The rooms are nothing special but were very clean and provide a great value for your dollar. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful.

We arrived at this hotel after sailing on the CAT ferry from Maine to Yarmouth. This hotel was convenient to the ferry port. We had booked only one room however needed 2. They had a room left for us to rent 2 rooms and the staff went out of their way to get our rooms together. The hotel was nice for the night and met all of our needs.

Way overpriced. Gouging people who have limited options coming off the Cat Ferry. Regular hotel along the highway is what it was and should have cost less. Was expecting much more considering how much we paid

Stayed one night, it is only a 10-15min walk to the small downtown area where there are a few eating options. There's a pool but we didn't use it due to chilly weather. Breakfast was great. One minor issue was that at 7am we were woken by other people using their showers, the pipes must have been next to our room as it was very loud. Other than that, no problems here.

The room seemed clean and the beds were decent, however, the shower was either too cold or scalding hot; could not find a decent temperature. Also, we had a box of timbits that we set on top of the cabinet that had the TV on it and when we returned from dinner, there were a bunch of ants all around the box; this was very concerning to me; made me wonder if there was an ant infestation. Was expecting a better breakfast option considering the room cost $192 before taxes; a hot complete breakfast would have been appreciated instead of a basic continental one. Not the worst place to stay but definitely not the best.

My boyfriend and I are on a workaction across the east coast. We stayed 2 nights at this property. Being that this was first time visiting Yarmouth we needed help figuring out what to do. Everyone at the front desk was super friendly and gave us information on things to do locally. It is very evident that the staff really care about this property and want to ensure all guests have a great experience.

I have stayed at the Best Western Mermaid in Yarmouth several times and the staff are super friendly and helpful. The rooms are very clean and have all the features you would expect flat screen TV, coffee maker, fridge etc. The hotel is very close to the street and you do get a fair bit of traffic noise, Also, the floors are laminated or some such hard surface, so if you are on the lower level you can hear the folks above you walking around. The room price includes hot breakfast.

Had to change my reservations because the CAT cancelled our return trip and the staff couldn't have been any nicer when we checked it and when we checked out. Room was very clean and bed was very comfortable.

We had used an agent to book two rooms for two nights at the Best West.When we arrived we were told only one room booked for Saturday even though I had a copy of the reservation.The desk staff phoned around and found a room for Saturday at the Comfort Inn,good job by the staff ,thanks.When I finally got into my room on Sunday I was kind of disappointed,the building probably wasn't plumbed when it was built because the bathroom was so small that you coudn't open or close the door while " seated ".The sink and counter were at the back of the room and made a very small space even smaller.A closet was built sticking out from a wall so I had to squeeze sideways to to get to the bathroom and one bed was so close to a wall that an adult couldn't get out that side at all.The motel itself is on the side of the main street so extremely noisy with cars and bikes roaring by.Not much for over 200$ plus tax.

Staff at check was very friendly, rooms clean and comfortable, breakfast was good for continental, very close to eating establishments, placed well for those wanting to take a stroll in the evening, approx. 1 mile to the mall (very easy to find)

Very average best western motel compared to other best western hotels that were cheaper and had many more amenities. Breakfast was decent but crowded. Like the rooms they are trying to fit to much into rooms and the breakfast area.

The hotel is ideally located in Yarmouth and walking distance to the ferry as well as the restaurant / pub Rudders. The front desk staff was exceptionally receptive to our parties needs . The first look from the street doesn't do it justice as the rooms are very well kept and very comfortable beds. They have a nice in-ground pool at the end of the building near the front desk area ( we didn't have time to enjoy) and the complimentary hot breakfast was a surprise as to the variety they had. The pricing was more than fair.... I would say make a reservation before stopping in as they were at full occupancy while we were there and that alone says a lot.... I would recommend a nights stay to anyone

This Best Western was a great find in Yarmouth. Close to the waterfront and very clean and updated inside. The beds were comfortable and the breakfast the next morning was typical for a free hot breakfast at a motel. The staff were very friendly, the only complaint I had was the noise from neighbouring rooms. We were on the ground floor and you could hear the people walking around the upstairs room and also the toilet and shower from the room behind us. I would definitely stay here again but would ask for an upper floor.

location was great for staying near the ferry , the cat , hotel just finshed remodeling and it was very nice and updated the rooms , office and breakfast area where very clean, and the staff was very nice and freindly

I was moderately skeptical when we left, we usually stay in another hotel brand. However, this Best Western is one of the cleanest hotels we have ever been to, and has the most AWESOME staff, they go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay and should we travel to Yarmouth again, this hotel will be top of the list. Don't let the fact that this hotel isn't a BW plus or premier, if you want a nice hotel with a good location, this is it.

Arrived about 8pm, very nice staff at check-in. Room felt crowded, bathroom area very crowded. A few hours later we realized the toilet didn't work. After calling the office, it took an hour for the very nice staff to arrive, she plunged & plunged and thought it was fixed around midnight when she left. Found out in the morning it still wasn't fixed. So, not much sleep before the early trip to the CAT in the morning. Went down to breakfast and was very disappointed with the limited choices. (I never had fish sausage before...it was ok) I normally love my BW's, but not this one! & so expensive! The next 2 nights I stayed at the BW in Portland, Maine & it was the best experience...in sharp contrast.

Stayed there last night. Simple. Clean. Wooden floors with runners. TINY bathroom. VERY GOOD breakfast for a hotel of this level; helpful staff with gluten free options! Doors to the outside - rather have real halls!

Great motel to get on/off ferry. Family operated, Clean with old world charm. Room had wooden floors, beds were comfortable. Bathroom even though had old configuration, were wpdated with good shower heads.

We took the CAT ferry from Portland, Maine to Yarmouth. The ferry gets in at 9pm and by the time you get off the ferry its between 9:30 - 10pm. The Best Western is close and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and they had a better than average breakfast in the morning. I had fresh berries with my yogurt and granola.

I was very pleased with the reservation, the greeting at front desk, delighted with the room and all its amenities, and the checkout. I also enjoyed having a hot breakfast before heading for work. I will definitely be back. Thank you.

This motel was overpriced, but there were no other decent options in the area. The rooms were clean and comfortable but in our two week trip in the Maritimes it was the worst value for money. We really like Best Western properties but this was not a flagship.

We stayed in room 204. Even the caulking on the floor in the bathroom is clean. Whoever cleans the rooms here deserves a raise - seriously. The room is spotless. I can't find a spec of dirt anywhere which is unusual for even more luxury style hotels. It's so clean I'm looking for dirt, she had to miss something! This cleaning lady, who obviously cares about her work, even left a note telling us to have a nice day. There's not a lot of choice for hotels in Yarmouth. If you want clean and comfortable, this is where to stay. The furniture all looks new and it's spotless. Don't let the outside fool you and if you're management reading this, I hope you treat your cleaning employees like gold, they do a stellar job for you.

We stay at The Mermaid quite often. We have friends that live in the area that we visit. We have stayed at most of the motels in the area, and we decided that this is the place we enjoy staying at the best. The staff are so kind and caring it's incredible. We stayed with our grand boys in our room a year ago. One of them was sick in the night. The gals were so helpful helping us with fresh bedding n more towels. The day staff inquired about him the next day. They really care about their clients. Amazing staff and great service.

Stayed one night on road trip. Great hotel, Clarence and Angie were awesome, really helpful, help us to fix a problem with expedia booking.Very clean room, didn't have the time to have breakfast, but overall recommended for anyone.

We came off The Cat at 9 pm and were at the motel 5 mins after clearing customs. This older motel on Main St (with Tims and McDonalds both visible from it) is very well maintained. Beds are very comfy. Modern furniture in the room. Nice touches like sheer curtains at windows. No carpeting on floors which keeps it fresh looking. Extra blankets and pillows in room if you need it. Back side is especially quiet. You can drive right up to your door on level 1. Breakfast ended too early at 9:30 for me to try. I would definitely stay here again. They offer CAA/AAA rates

Stayed two nights on motorcycle trip to Nova Scotia. The folks could not have been more accommodating. In particular, Clarence went out of his way to provide exceptional above and beyond service. And the maintenance guy (forgot his name) even helped repair a damaged motorcycle windshield!! Rooms were clean and well supplied and breakfast choices were great. Highly recommend.

Other than the coffee maker and coffee "Decaf" I think you can make it better. If you have a room for two of more people, you can't have a single cup machine maker. At the breakfast room they need to put water.

I was really impressed with the Breakfast, Sausages and scrambeled eggs, something normally not seen in the Motels. Nice clean quiet place to stay. We stayed there on the night of May 30, 2017, we will definately be going back again. Gary & Barb Sanford

Where do I start....I don't think I've ever stayed in such a clean hotel room. Beds were comfy, room was cozy, modern and I have never seen such a clean bathroom. I stayed in room 221 and I had a fabulous view of the sunset. I enquired at a couple of hotels but the Best Western Mermaid Yarmouth was the most competitive and friendliest. Clarence who was working the front desk went above and beyond to help me find a suitable rate and made fabulous suggestions on where to eat, visit and was so knowledgeable of the area. The breakfast was one of the best I have ever had at a hotel. All in all 100% satisfied and I am a tough cookie to keep happy. Kudos to Best Western Mermaid and a HUGE thank u to Clarence :-).

It's an old motor in that has been updated. The rooms super clean and beds comfortable. The owner and staff go out of their way to ensure a great stay. Been staying at this motel off and on for 6 years now. It's been transformed. Staff are the best and will help in every way. It's my home away from home when in that area.

This is an older property and is configured more like a motel, which is not meant as a knock against it - it is just a description of the physical layout! The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, it had a decent-size TV, and there is free WiFi. If you consider yourself larger than average, then you might have a problem with the bathroom; it is on the small side, but it is adequate. As per normal, Best Western does provide a "hot" breakfast selection and this location did the same. Unfortunately for me (or them depending on your perspective) the food was not hot, warm would be a closer description. I suspect the someone forgot to set the temperature for the heating element in the pan/food holder. The food was likely still hot (hotter) for guests eating earlier and/or no one else thought to identify the problem to staff like I did. I feel certain people sitting shorty staff were made aware of the issue will have hot food. Overall my wife and I enjoyed our stay and will certainly look for a BW hotel during our travels.

The hotel provides good value for the price. The rooms are always clean, the staff is friendly. The free breakfast is what you would expect, overall I stay there when I visit Yarmouth and will continues to do so.

a Good Hotel, clean rooms, rooms are basic not too lavish or opulent. Very Good front desk Hostess. Accessibility is a challenge to the upper floor and has to be exterior to the building. That wasn't so enjoyable during inclement weather

I've stayed here a few times for business and come back. I find the staff very friendly, the rooms clean and the breakfast is pretty decent. I come back during the day to do work and then travel to see customers, this is convenient for me. I've stayed at every other place in Yarmouth, i'm here two nights every month and although its not fancy its comfortable and clean. The coffee is really good and available 24/7. The facility is not well insulated for sound so I like staying in the back but otherwise it's a good little motel.

A very comfortable motel for quick business trips. Rom was clean and modern and a great value for the price paid. Staff were helpful and the hot breakfast option was more than expected for this type of accommodation.

The room was adequate, and the staff were friendly. However, the first room we were given had a broken heater. We were moved into another room quickly and easily. The next day, a pipe at the hotel burst, and there was no water for showering, drinking, brushing teeth, flushing the toilet. We were told the heating systems could not stand the cold wind. The manager was not on site during the weekend, and the clerk was unsure how to compensate us. When we asked for a partial refund from the manager, we were offered less than 5% of the cost of the reservation. We contacted Best Western directly, they were shocked, and offered us a full refund. If you are in Yarmouth, we would advise staying at the Grand Hotel. Much better quality and service at a comparable price.

I'm not sure where to start. When we first arrived we were taken aback by the lobby which smelled like a number of cats lived there. Staff were very friendly though. We arrived in our room which was an updated one but still far from modern. The smell of dampness was overwhelming. Small and a little cramped, I contemplated looking elsewhere for accommodation but there aren't great options close by. Water began pouring in at 10pm in the bathroom doorway. After calling the front desk who advised they would call maintenance we waited until at 11 we decided to go to bed as we had not heard from anyone. It is 7pm one day later and we still haven't heard. Luckily the water has stopped but will return when someone showers in the room above. There isn't much for sound proofing so you will hear everything above and to the side of you. Word of warning: someone in our group is staying in a larger room on the second floor. The smell of mould is terrible and the carpet, at least 25 yrs old is holding on to that odour. The 1970's yellow cabinets are also not helping. Breakfast was good though. There are a lack of options in the town to stay at but I would look elsewhere.

I usually stay here when visiting Yarmouth and I must say there has been quite an improvement. Lobby area has been updated along with the guest rooms. Big TV in the room and a comfortable bed. Breakfast items has been updated to include more than just toast and tea. French toast, sausage, eggs, etc..there should be something for everyone. It looks like the only thing not updated is the bathroom, but it is still in good shape. Staff are friendly. Good location in town with an easy walk to almost everything.

Very comfortable, clean and quiet. Had some problems with my key cards but the cleaning lady was very helpful and even went to the front desk to have the keys redone. Breakfast was very good and the person responsible was very efficient. Would stay at this hotel again if I'm ever back in Yarmouth.

Great location,great hotel and staff. Stayed only one night for business. Large selection for your breakfast in the morning. Bed was a little hard compared to other BW I have stayed at. Quiet area, good sleep.

The desk staff were exceptionally helpful and courteous. Kudos to the cleaning staff....our room was spotless! We needed help finding a suitable restaurant, and after a conversation with the staff, they recommended a place that fit us to a tee. We would definitely return to this hotel in the future.

Flew into Halifax Thursday 20th.to have a long weekend doing the South Shore and the Valley. Booked the Mermaid back in the summer and was a bit hesitant with the mixed reviews. Spent last night at the Mermaid and in Yarmouth and both get two thumbs up. Room was clean and ready, even a hand written Welcome and a Happy Face. Breakfast was more than adequate and the staff friendly and accommodating. Check in and out a breeze. Especially liked the lack of carpet, new laminated flooring. Would I come for another stay? Without a doubt. Bonus a no charge Sunset was beautiful with a Canada Goose flyby.

Friendly staff moderate price and close to highway,shopping and great food. Experience what the loop had to offer by driving the scenic route, you will be glad you did!

This 1950s motel was the worst and higher priced of the Best Western chain we encountered on our whole trip of Nova Scotia. The staff were friendly enough. The room was small, not enough room to put a suitcases. Breakfast was in a side area near the lobby and the food was like flying in a plane, packaged milk, packaged fruit in syrup, packaged juice, cereal and breads, hard boiled eggs floating in hot water and some half slices of ham which was surrounded with a little water too. We could have had a better breakfast assortment from the fast food restaurants across the road. This one certainly spoils the reputation of the Best Western Chain. It is across the road from a nice little walking path but there is little to recommend it.

As part of our tour of Nova Scotia we booked into this property. You could tell the management of this hotel took good care of it as the walkways and reception area were in excellent shape. Our room had also been updated and we found it very comfortable, The breakfast room was very clean and well organized with a light breakfast to start our day. We had a very nice stay and would recommend it to all.

This location is perfect for the ferry. I love the hardwood floors and the beds are super comfortable. The breakfast was perfect for a continental breakfast and they also have "to go" breakfast bags. All around great place to stay.

We booked a room at this hotel a few days before we planned to be there and after reading other reviews, requested a ground floor room because they do not have an elevator. We arrived at the hotel around 9:30 PM, after a ferry ride on The Cat from Portland, Maine. The hotel is close to the ferry. However, upon arrival, we were informed that we were the last reservation to check in for the night. Of course, that meant that we had a second floor room and had to carry all of our luggage up stairs. We were not happy. The room was clean with two full beds so there was not much room for two people. The shower had good water pressure. The staff was friendly and helpful in recommending things to do in Yarmouth.

Was what one would expect for a small town motel. The check-in was effortless,,,all accommodations were honored and the desk service was great. The room was ok. Don't expect luxurious, and you won't be disappointed. But, I will let you know that the room was clean and neat. Warm. Ours was in a quiet spot, so we slept pretty good. The walls are a little thin, but that is just the way it is in small town hotels. (some big city hotels are just as worse!!). Breakfast was only so-so, but we had our hunger satisfied. Again,,clean and neat. Check-out was a breeze.

This hotel is not up to Best Western standards. The hotel looks old, the steps on the end were unsafe at night, the room smelled old and musty, didn't look clean. Breakfast was poor and the eating area was too small.

The hotel is right off the street where you would drive in from the highways so it's convenient and it isn't too far from the town centre. It's a Best Western and you are pretty sure of a decent place to stay. The Mermaid is clean and comfortable, with good sized rooms. There's a small fridge in the room and the king size bed was fairly comfortable. there are no elevators and some rooms are one floor up so request a ground floor room if you have mobility issues. There's a pool. Free wifi which worked well. Breakfast was cereal, boiled eggs, sliced ham and a few other bits and pieces and wasn't really up to the challenge though the coffee was pretty good. Free is free, though. Aside from that, the hotel is a good, clean and reliable place to stay. Prices are competitive, not particularly cheap though we got a decent government rate.

Clean hotel on Main Street, not noisy if room is in the rear of hotel. Breakfast is average with boiled eggs, sausage, cereal. 5 minutes to boat. Walk to center of town. Friendly competant staff, very willing to assist if needed.

Dated place. Looks like they are trying to update some rooms. Ours had the carpet cut away from the beds and they had hardwood floors underneath. Needs more updating in the bath area. Room was a good size and you can hear your neighbors. Gave us a discount for being on a bike and belonging to HOG. That's nice. They offer some sort of breakfast in the am, we didn't check it out. was ok for the stay, we needed to get to the ferry in the morning.

Very noisy plumbing. When the person in the next room took a shower it woke me up out of a sound sleep. At first I thought it was some type of alarm. Not conducive to a good night's sleep. Very noisy location. The breakfast is served in the same room as the check out. Not conducive to a pleasant breakfast. And finally, the person who checked me out was extremely unpleasant. Overall, not a good experience. Will never stay there again, and will not recommend anyone else stay there.

The hotel is in a great location for easy access to the Ferry but it's not worth the stay. 1st Room: We checked in late afternoon but had to wait an hour. Then we were provided with a room at the back where they had just applied a surface of asphalt sealer onto the parking lot. Our child got out and stepped into the wet asphalt sealer. The odor was very strong. The room was dusty, dirty and not clean. There was even a dried grape left on the dresser. Unrepaired holes in the drywall. We brought the issue to the attention of staff and we provided with a new room. 2nd Room: We were told this room was newly renovated. There were holes, drywall repair marks cracks and poorly, partially painted walls throughout the main room. It appears that cleanliness is not a high priority at this hotel. There were hairs and unknown substances stuck to the bathroom walls, especially behind the door. Dirt accumulated in the corners of the floor. The furniture was dusty. The neighbors actually offered us their febreze deodorizer spray which they had needed to use in their room. It was noisy, dirty, and poorly maintained. It's a surprise that this hotel is part of the Best Western Hotel chain and is an example of the lack of consistency in the quality of hotels across the BW Hotel chain. We stay at many hotels and this is hotel was one of the poorest values we had experienced in many years.

Very convenient motel if using the Ferry from Portland as it get into Yarmouth around 9 or 10 PM. Motel is comfortable but has outside entrance to room and parking is in front of room. An older style motel but well kept.

We stayed here after arriving late on the ferry from Portland. It was fine for just an overnight and nice to have the free breakfast before heading on our way. Clean but small room. Two double beds. Pool didn't open until ten so we didn't get to use it.

The entire premises were clean, including our room, the lobby, pool and breakfast areas. Our room was well appointed; we had no complaints. When we arrived, Jane was working at the front desk and she was amazingly accommodating. We failed to request a main floor room (had a health issue after booking which is making stairs difficult at the moment) and of course were assigned one on the second floor. She went to a tremendous amount of work to reorganize several impending guests so that we could have a main floor room. She also recommended a couple of great restaurants. She was exceptionally helpful and worthy of special mention!!

This hotel has a great location near the middle of town. They are renovating rooms, but we had one of the remaining few with a carpet, which detracted from the experience a little. On the other hand the bed was extremely comfortable and we slept well.

The hotel is renovated but got an old structure which makes it very noisy. We had an upstairs room to avoid noise from the room on top. However you could even notice someone walking in an adjacent room. Finally we woke up early in the morning (approx. 6 a.m.) when somebody in a nearby room had a morning shower. The old plumbing was very noisy.

The hotel is very clean and everything works well. Breakfast is great. The hotel is near the ferry terminal to the US. Also close to shopping center. There are oven and stove in our room. We bought some fresh seafood from near buy market and enjoyed them in our room.

I enjoyed my stay at this Best Western. It has more of a motel feel than a hotel. Our door was to the outside porch with a parking spot there (we didn't have a car.) Everyone was beyond friendly. Breakfast was delicious and welcoming and had many options. The lobby is nice. It's a small area, but not crowded. The room was fine. The beds were nice and the set up was alright. It was strange to have the sink outside of the area. The little room for the toilet and shower was very little, but served it's purpose. The walls in our room could have used some pictures or posters...or even a clock and definitely a new coat of a different color of pain. There was nothing on the walls so it felt a bit bare. The location is fine, too. About a mile or less from everything interesting. There is a shuttle to and from The Cat (but what they won't tell you is it's $.25 a person..) The only other little thing I'd bring up would be that the AC would make a loud sound whenever it turned on. It woke me up a few times... Overall, I'd say we had a good weekend!

One of the few choices in Yarmouth. Old 60's building just remodeled w/all new room interiors and furniture. However, walls are thin, you can hear people and water running in rooms below, behind and on either side. Bathroom so small you cannot close or open the door if you are sitting on the toilet. Did not try the breakfast which looked very basic. Gets a 4 rating as clean, located right on the Main Street, 2 minutes from the ferry dock, and recent remodel.

Spent 2 nights in Yarmouth .The room was very small, we were 4 adults. When booking asked for 2 queen beds and got two doubles beds which were very small. The washroom was so small you could hardly move around in it. Yes the rooms were updated but there was no room to more around. The pool was very clean but very cold the outdoor furniture was new and very nice. They should heat the pool it would be very nice.

My husband, myself and our 2 college age day daughters spent 2 nights of our Nova Scotia vacation in this lovely hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful (when we came back from a day out sightseeing - one of the staff saw us struggling to open the room door and jumped right in to help us - appreciated). Room was clean and comfortable and comes with a hot breakfast. Hotel is convenient to downtown Yarmouth.

This is an older motel that has been remodeled. Rooms are spacious. Hardwood floors. Great beds and linens. Comfortable sitting chair and desk chair. Bathrooms are still small but they've been redone and are nice. Excellent towels. Great water pressure. Excellent air conditioning. This is right down the street from the ferry to Portland, ME. Very convenient. Breakfast was pretty good. We stayed here to catch the ferry.

I was pleasantly surprised after reading some reviews. The outside could use a little sprucing up. The lobby was very well appointed and there is a nice (free) breakfast area which served our needs with eggs, ham, yogurt, cereal, muffins, toast, bagels, fresh fruit, etc. Our room was updated with a comfortable king size bed. The bathroom is a bit small but updated and suitable. I am glad I chose this hotel close to the ferry and view of the water.

It's a Best Western so nothing to write home about but it was clean, convenient to the Portland-Yarmouth ferry, and the staff is FANTASTIC. They were so incredibly helpful! The breakfast was fine and I was happy to have it. Good internet service as well.

I knew we had to catch the ferry early so I booked a hotel weeks ahead. After getting to the town, I wish I had booked one of the lovely Inns. Canada has so many beautiful Inns, why would anyone stay anywhere else?

Nice place to stay over as one has to be at the Ferry Terminal in Yarmouth by 7:30 a.m. and it's only a few blocks away. No elevator. Walking distance to wharf where there are nice parks and good places to watch sunset and view the fishing boats..

I was really pleased with our stay at the Mermaid. To be honest, I was expecting this to be a miss, but I was blown away at how modern and clean this motel was. We got a great room on the ground floor, with more than enough space for all three of us. The pool area was big and well kept. In walking distance to downtown. We'll return again!

Yes this is a basic Best Western franchise. However, it is conveniently located on Main Street, the room was clean, the beds were comfortable, the breakfast was not the Ritz but it was well stocked and fresh, and the staff was very friendly. For the choices available in Yarmouth, you could do a lot worse.

We stayed at the BW Mermaid upon our arrival on The Cat from Portland, Maine. The lady at the front desk was very nice and checked us in quickly. Our room was pretty basic and a little on the small side from what we are used to. Still, we had two queen beds, a small table and chair in one corner and a armed chair with footstool in another corner. Plenty of counter space by he sink was appreciated. The bathroom itself is fairly small, but meets its purpose. The beds were comfortable, there are several sockets available for charging devices and the wifi worked well. We had a problem with not being able to turn on our tv, but between traveling and the time change to Atlantic time, we were ready to sleep anyway. The motel offers a light breakfast in the morning, although most of us missed it as it ends at 9:30 am. One plus to the motel is its proximity to several fast food restaurants. A Wendy's is just down the road, a KFC/Taco Bell is across the street and a McDonald's is practically next door - perfect for those who need a late night snack after exiting the ferry. One negative for me is the wood floors - the people above us were walking around in shoes that really made a lot of noise. In the end, the price was reasonable and we got a good room. I would stay here again should I return to Yarmouth.

I stayed at the Best Western Mermaid for business on July 21, 2016. I opted for this hotel as it offered the best corporate rate in the area. I was more than pleasantly surprised with my stay. The room was very large and clean. I especially appreciated the hard surface floors as I have allergies. The bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept in!! I also noted there were two extra sets of towels in the closet which you don't typically find in many hotels. Check-in was smooth and easy. I arrived exactly at the 2:00 pm check-in time and, since my assigned room wasn't ready, was given the room next door. Much appreciated after a long day on the road! I was offered the chance to settle my bill at check-in too which was very convenient for me. The included breakfast was quite good (hard boiled eggs, sausage, various breads for toast, yogurt, cereals, juices, muffins, whole fruit, coffee/tea) although the breakfast area is small and was somewhat crowded with other guests. I didn't see trays but would have preferred to picked up my breakfast and brought it back to the quiet of my room. Location is prime. Ample parking. There was some noise from the traffic as this hotel is on a major thoroughfare but the air conditioner blocked it out when I was sleeping. My room was on the second floor which could only be accessed by stairs (perhaps there's an elevator I didn't know about?) but that was fine. I didn't try the pool. I would definitely return to the Best Western Mermaid on any future visits to Yarmouth.

We were here for just 1 night. The room was clean, the Internet worked well, and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast was adequate. Jan at the desk was friendly and very helpful. There aren't many places to stay in this town.

We stayed in Yarmouth due to the fact we were taking the morning Cat ferry to Portland, Maine. There aren't a lot of options for hotels, but we chose this one due to brand recognition and dependability, and its proximity to the ferry. The hotel was aged, but clean. The breakfast was the typical selection of breads and packaged pastries, with some fruit, coffee, juice and cereal options. We'd stay here again, but it's not a destination hotel.

not happy at all with check in. I had booked my reservations in advance but waited over 20 minutes to receive keys as attendant in training attempted to determine if there were available rooms for two couples before me.

Yarmouth is not over endowed with hotels or B & Bs so we had little choice. The rooms are motel type but on 2 floors. Pool looked nice but we arrived too late to use it. Beds are doubles reasonable nights sleep. Room was clean but furnishing basic. Breakfast was included but was not particularly appealing. The cost was comparable to some much better places we stayed during a 3 week trip. I suspect that the lack of competition accounts for that.

My wife and I checked in here Friday July 15 2016. I will start with the good things. The pool was awesome. The free breakfast was nice and the coffee was hot. All the staff we dealt with were very good and friendly. The room was your average hotel room,the showers was nice,the room was reasonably clean,the internet worked fine,the TV was good,and the room had a mini fridge. This hotel is also located so that everything in Yarmouth is easily accessible.Downtown and the Starrs Rd shopping district are a couple of minutes away by car. No on to the not so good. We checked in on a very busy afternoon with a big car show starting the same day. There was 7 in our group.There were 3 people checking in ahead of us and 3 more behind us. That's a total of 13 people checking in at the same time. There was one "In Training" woman taking care of us all by herself. Where was the Manager you might ask ?? Well,turns out that she decided to leave early on what may have been the busiest day of the summer. And left the new girl to handle things all by herself. Needles to say I was not impressed with this.

Very pleased with our choice of hotel in Yarmouth. It was easy to get to from the ferry port, lots of parking and had friendly staff. The room was very up to date with wood floors and modern decor. We requested a room in the front with a water view, but it did have a fair bit of road noise during the night (for those who are light sleepers). The breakfast offered a good variety of hot and cold items. Would highly recommend and stay again!

There weren't a lot of choices in Yarmouth. The room was clean but heavily scented with bleach. Complimentary breakfast was not appetizing and quite crowded so we chose to eat in town. No elevator in hotel. Jake's pizza place in town served breakfast with a reasonable amount of choices. Skip the pancakes, however.

We stayed here for two nights during a visit to Nova Scotia. The hotel was a typical Best Western type motel ...check in efficient and friendly. They had managed to supply the soya milk we had requested which is a bonus! Paper plates...plastic cutlery at breakfast rather a downer and the breakfast room wasn't really big enough for the number of guests but overall it was a satisfactory stay.

The rooms were very nice and clean. I liked the "hardwood" floors in the rooms. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had an issue with one of our motorcycles in the parking lot the morning of check out. The cleaning lady went above and beyond to help us clean up the mess and we were very thankful for her assistance. the place looks a little older from the outside but the rooms were nice.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and the beds were very comfy. Lots of pillows. Ocean view from the front rooms. Grab and Go breakfast is excellent when you are trying to catch the Yarmouth to Portland ME ferry. I have stayed here several times and will do so again.

Good location in Yarmouth with a nice little outdoor pool. Beds were a little dated and soft but the room was comfortable and clean. Wifi worked great, parking at our door (1st floor) and included a nice little hot breakfast in the morning. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Stayed 1 night for CAT ferry. Hotel is dated, but clean. Very convenient to ferry. We were disappointed with old furnishings, leaking faucet, and surprised to find NO microwave or refrigerator in room as we have stayed in BW from New Zealand to Alaska to Maine and have always had these provided. Breakfast area small, hot breakfast items sub-par. Price was higher than the new BW PLUS we stayed at the night before. Might be the 1st BW I would rate as not meeting expectations.

Older building with updates and clear customer focus by all staff members, which is most welcome after a long journey to Yarmouth by the ferry, which lands less than 2 miles away. Good breakfast. Park right outside your room. Pergo flooring is very clean; loud if you are on the first floor and someone is in the room above.

hotel is dated however room & bathroom was clean but has seen a lot of use, breakfast was sparse and the receptionist was also expected to take care of the breakfast guests (replacing supplies, food and emptying trash) while checking out guests.

stayed here june 12-16 2016... it was awesome!! the staff is extremely friendly from the management to the grounds keeper.... the atmosphere was warm and friendly...... the rooms are extremely clean and well maintained..... i would recommend bt western any day.. i will be back!!

Stayed here one night in June 2016. The room was simple with two comfortable beds, plenty of pillows, a separate sink from the bath/toilet, and a TV. It was clean, if a little worn in places, and quiet (we had a room in the back). Breakfast was very good with lots of selection including bagels, waffles, cereal, scrambled eggs, and sausages. It is conveniently located close to downtown, a Wendy's/Tim Hortons, KFC, and the waterfront. The staff were friendly and helpful.

We have had bad weather and I was waiting for a break to head up to Yarmouth for my monthly visit.I try to avoid snow and high winds. I was late in calling for reservation and they were close to being booked up but they fit me in .I like a special room 201 and it was booked so they gave me a room that the bed was on the same side as 201 .For some reason I sleep the best on that side . There was a lovely breakfast both mornings I was there lots of fresh fruit and nice toppings for oatmeal cranberries almonds etc. I was in time to get 2 stays in as I watch for promotions an I think that is great incentive .It could buy a dinner out or a trip to the movies .I am glad to see a ferry will be there this year as it helped a lot of businesses in the area.Come and try my favourite space away from home .Always greeted by smiles .

One last visit to Yarmouth Jan 11 2015 to Jan 13 2015 a storm came up and when I looked out in the morning my vehicle was covered in a blanket of snow and parking lot was just being plowed .I was hoping I could clean the snow off without getting wet . I dressed and went for a nice hot breakfast ,and when I went out the staff had cleaned my vehicle off .I certainly didnt expect that .It certainly was appreciated though .The staff here have always gone above and beyond in my book .16 years as a patron there and treated as if I was royalty .Thanks again to the staff for 16 years of great service .

I had the misfortune of staying here early December 2015. The first thing about any room facing the main road is that you will enjoy squealing tires and traffic noise aside from the other noises from anyone walking the wooden walkway / boardwalk the hotel is fitted with. This applies to the front and rear rooms. I wasted no time requesting a room on the back which they were kind enough to accommodate. The back room was on the ground floor right next to the same two level stairway / breezeway I was originally given on the front second level. No quiet nights sleeps here either with anyone walking by on that boardwalk or coming and going. The room reeked of some chemical smell (disinfectant??) I don't know. The bathroom shower adjuster is to be wary of - It scalded me momentarily before i was able to shut it off. The continental breakfast was awful. Overcooked scrambled eggs and a greasy (turkey?) sausage. Even the orange juice tasted like cardboard. No, I would NOT recommends this place.

The staff are very accommodating. The comp breakfast was decent and the eating area very clean. My room was a kitchenette that was a tad dated but functional non the less. The flat screen TV was impressive. The in room TV directory needs to be updated. Many channels listed with only a few available. My biggest frustration was the card activated door. It would work after 20 or so tries. My first day there I made the front desk aware of the broken door. They were all very much aware of this problem, have let management aware of the problem. So this hassle has been present for a considerable time, management knows same and either cannot or will not fix it. I look forward to the response. Seems it will be how each room has new A?C and a 42inch TV. I would like to see a response saying how they plan to change these terrible door locks.

Our room was large with a table and two dining chairs, a very large television and a king size bed. The bathroom had a very welcome tub. The room heating was very efficient despite the cold weather. For Breakfast, which was Included in our tariff, there were many choices: yoghurt, cereals, porridge, scrambled eggs and link sausages. There was ample fresh fruit. We would stay here again.

Location was great! Very close to restaurants. The staff was friendly and had good service. The motel was very old. Certainly needs a lot of upgrading. Was very disappointed at the first sight of this motel and the inside wasn't any better. I was very surprised that a Best Western would let one of their Hotels be this run down.

We went to the mermaid for a late anniversary getaway ...it was great ....bed was amazing ,comfy and huge ......went out Saturday night and enjoyed some pool at the local pool hall ......suggested by the lovely lady at the hotel desk ..overall had a great stay ...breakfast was awesome ..complimentary ..of course ....thanks for making us feel at home ...

Yes, it is a simole thing like a recycling bin in the room that can make adifference. I have always hated throwing plastic bottles in the trash and hoping the cleaning service would seperate them. Overall, the Best Western Mermaid met expectations and was adequate for a one night stay. Drawback, was this is a motel with all door entries on the outside. I find this less secure, but it eas fine. On the plus side, there was a laundry and we were able to wash clothes. Breakfast was standard fare, fruit, cereal, muffins, coffee - enough to get the day started. Staff was pleasant.

Friendly staff. The room was clean and modern. There was a good shower with lots of nice towels . The hot breakfast got our day off to a grand start . You can't go wrong staying here. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a reasonably priced place to stop.

This is an older motel with two levels and no elevator. Check in was pleasant and friendly and we received a first floor room as requested. A room on the ground floor prevents the need to drag bags up stairs but you hear people above you walking. Also, the only ice machine is on the top floor and you need your room key to access the ice machine. The motel could use a remodel and furnishings upgrade as they have old fashioned wallpaper in the entire room and the furniture is showing its age. They had a great selection of TV channels with many expanded cable choices available in HD that was much more than I've seen in the last 20 or so places I have stayed. We liked that there was a Taco Bell/KFC combo across the street as it made grabbing a bite easy. The motel (again due to its age) had absolutely no outlets where you need them. There was one on the wall near the desk and that is it. That was tough for two people who each had laptops and iPhones. The floor in the motel had been recently redone and was laminate. It seemed nice and clean and there were about three small throw rugs placed around the room. All of the plumbing must be tied together because I was awoken by the sound of someone showering in another room at around 0400. I mentioned this at checkout and the agent who worked the overnight shift told me she also heard the early riser. There is nothing the hotel can do about this so you might want to bear this in mind if you are a light sleeper. Breakfast was a crowded, busy affair as the motel was full the night before and everyone seemed to come for breakfast at the same time. There weren't enough tables for everybody. They had a decent selection of hot and cold items. I did not enjoy the sausage provided or the bagels. The service in the breakfast room was excellent and the staff worked hard to keep tables cleaned and items replenished.

Been here before. Service was much better than before. But poor hot water and breakfast shut down in morning before the end time. The cost is close to this level of hotel in a major city. But with few options...Days Inn I think it up the street...
