    « Love the suite »

These are the best rooms....recently updated....separate bedroom and the living area is huge....a full size refrigerator. The bathrooms were spacious with a separate outside sink...all was very clean. It was odd that there were no pictures on any of the walls. Outside the rooms in the hallways were not as appealing...some sort of cart was left outside our room the whole 3 days. It had trash on it...I'm not sure why it was never moved. The beach was wide and beautiful.....the staff was helpful.

    « Great Stay »

Large suite felt like a small apartment. Close to everything you want to do. Decent breakfast to start the day. Clean rooms and comfortable furnishings. We enjoyed our time here and we will stay again when we come back..

« We Never Go Anywhere Else »

We love going to this specific Best Western because it is great location on the OBX. We love the decor of the room, the outdoor view of the ocean. We also can see the Wright Brothers Memorial too. The breakfast selection is always great.

« Office closed and locked, waited 45 minutes »

After being on the road for 36 hours and desperately needing a room, I selected this property from TripAdvisor based on the reviews and price. When I arrived there, I found the office to be closed and locked. Repeated phone calls to the property went unanswered. Bear in mind this was before 7 p.m. and a prime-time for check-in. I watched as others came and left in frustration. After 45 minutes, a young woman finally arrives opens the door and walked in, completely ignoring myself and the others that were still waiting. When I asked what was going on I was told she had been on a regular walk around and went out for lunch. This is completely against Hotel policy, which I later verified to be true. When I called to complain to the main line, the young lady accused me of lying about it and refused to rent me a room. So after waiting for almost an hour including the time I spent with her once she arrived, I had to drive further down and find another place to stay. Do to travel 40 guy was in no condition to be driving, but she adamantly refused to let me have her room. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my entire life time, and I will never again be staying at ANY Best Western Property.

    « Good Value »

Make sure that you know the difference between oceanfront and ocean view. The former shows you the sand dune the latter the actual ocean. Staff is good and accommodations are a pretty good value all things considered. The breakfast is pretty weak though.

« Coming home to the Best Western Ocean Reef »

I needed an escape for the everyday blues of home, so a friend and I headed for the Best Western Ocean Reef on the OBX of North Carolina...the hotel is wonderful, the staff are more like friends...they always make me feel special...Love this place and it has the ocean right out my front balcony...nothing could ever be better!!!

    « Beach Front Location »

So disappointed with this hotel only the breakfast , parking and view are worthy of a positive mention. The breakfast was better than in other Best Westerns I have stayed in other than Paris! However, the rooms were damp and smelled awful. The carpet was so wet in one room our friends had to move. The so called kitchen area did not have one piece of crockery ot silverware making it useless. Our room was not vacuumed as evidenced by the peeling ceiling paint chips left on the carpet. Our friend's room was not serviced at all on one day.The corridors were not swept at all during our stay, I expect the beer bottle tops are still there! On check out there was a problem with the bill which was not satisfactorily dealt with.

« Great breakfast and sauna »

We arrived on Saturday afternoon and had breakfast on Sunday at the hotel. It was a big surprise for us to see bacon there! Also, we enjoyed the sauna within the fitness center which is really a plus for me! Staff were really friendly and helpful too! Fixed things quickly and were very thoughtful!

« great stay not much to do »

the room was fine the location was very good. the staff was nice and the room by itself had plenty of good in it. liked the fact that the sleeping room was on the west not the east. and we loved the outdoor hot tub and pool

    « Won't be back »

Most disappointed with this property and the lack of focus on customer service. The first room was quite worn and the toilet would not flush. After a less than pleasant experience with the desk clerk, were moved to another room that was in better condition but still sub par in housekeeping and finding a roach on the drapes when closing them in the bedroom for the evening, certainly did not gain any points. The lighting in the vanity are was poor and the towels were quite worn. This was the first experience at a Best Western property and will be the last.

    « bad housekeeping, won't go again »

The beds were very sloppy one day and only one bed made another day. Pillows were left on the floor. garbage not picked up. towels not replaced. Very dissatisfied with the house keeping and never complained about a Best Western before and that's the hotel we always use.

    4
    « Awesome room...great price »

We stayed on the lower level, but no problem...just step outside and over the dune and we were on the beach. Clean room, nice layout of the suite, friendly staff and amazing breakfast for the price. I would go back tomorrow! Centrally located to most tourist attractions. Has all you need for a wonderful trip.

« Very nice best western with issues: beware if you have allergies »

This is one of the nicest Best Western I have stayed out: the room is really nice. The front office staff: Amy was rude. Gale was nicer and seemed to understand the meaning of customer service. Unfortunately, this hotel experience a hurricane one week prior to our visit and when we went to our room there was an overwhelming smell of cat urine. We talked with Gale who explained that rain from the storm came into the room and mixed with the carpet fibers creating a horrible stench: 60 % of the rooms had water damage. We were offered a different room and the smell was not as bad: still woke at 1am from a horrible sinus headache: it is unfortunate because this is a really nice place but until they get this issue resolved if you are sensitive to smells I wouldn't stay here. The rooms are very nice: you walk into a nice kitchen and a separate king size bedroom and separate living area with a balcony over the beach (or pool and beach). It is direct oceanfront. There is a complimentary very nice breakfast that is in a room on each floor so it doesn't get crowded : great idea. The breakfast is 7-10. The outdoor pool open until 9pm. The beach is great. Plenty of free parking. Free WiFi. Nice room darkening shades. Housekeeping did a okay job: one recommendation: when the bath towels are turning gray it is time to replace them. There was a bleach type odor to the towels and to the bedding as well. This hotel is nice with a great location it just unfortunate that their issues that could affect the health of their customers. I would be proactive in getting a nice smelling room.

    « Critical Information »

I booked an ocean view room. There is a difference between ocean view and ocean front (ground floor, sand dune view). This was my case. Fortunately, the clerk had compassion and moved me from room 104 to 304 the second night. Call the hotel to make sure where you're staying. You have to be at least on the second floor to see the ocean. The living room is spacious, kitchenette perfect (fridge/microwave), bedroom has two beds, bathroom has a sink and then another inside the shower/toilet room. My niece had her two small children so the Murphy bed in the living room was perfect for them. Balcony has two plastic chairs and short little table for drinks. Breakfast had many choices: scrambled or hard-boiled eggs, sausage or bacon, cereal, rolls, yogurt, fruit, etc. Nice view of the Wright Brothers Memorial--which is barely a mile away. Captain George's seafood buffet is less than two miles away. The beach is right over the sand dunes and there are walkways from the hotel. Great experience!

« If shopping at Wal Mart gives you a thrill...... »

Really disappointing. The sweet receptionist was ALONE on duty at our 5 pm check in. The hall outside our room was a disaster zone with dirty linen piles, FOUR cleaning carts, cardboard boxes and huge barrels of CLEANING FLUIDS left standing for the night partially blocking the hall. If the local fire marshall had dropped by, this hotel would have gotten a TICKET. I had to take photos and show them to the poor receptionist before she could get the manager to react. The room was NOT much better: broken lock on the sliding door which could NOT be shut all the way, cigarette burn holes on the furniture, substandard air conditioning which could not be adjusted. The reconstitued powdered eggs at breakfast were nasty. The bright spot was the VERY NICE staff in the too-small breakfast room.

« Excellent Place to stay »

If you are looking for a very nice place to stay this would be the one to go and stay. I will go back again because of the staff members are friendly and very helpful. I would also take my family there. You are right at the beach.

« All rooms were newly renovated very nice and very spacious »

The Rooms were very up to date. Nice kitchen with large refrigerator. The breakfast and the nice older people who took care of the breakfast area were super. Nice and clean. Could use some new furniture on the patio. Convenient to a nice deli across the street. We had fresh sandwiches made there everyday. Easy access to beach. Didn't use the pool. Right next to the life guard station. I would book this place again.

« I love this Place!!!!!...it's the only hotel I will stay in »

my trip to the Kill Devil Hills, NC Best Western Ocean Reef is always the highlight of my vacation...I try to get as many chances to go there as possible. Wouldn't ever stay anywhere else!!!...The hotel is beautiful and right on the beach...always get an ocean front room...watch the ocean for hours and love every minute of my stay!!!

« Nice place to stay »

We have stayed here multiple times and any time there is an issue it is resolved promptly and professionally. This is now our go to hotel when staying on the Outer Banks. Each morning there are breakfast options if you don't want to go out to eat. The beds are so comfortable and the rooms are always clean.

« All Ocean Front Rooms Do Not Have Ocean View »

I go to the beach for a night to have dinner with my Mom and I pay extra to get an ocean front room with a request for the highest room available...... I got Ocean front at the higher price on the 1st floor with a view of the sand dune...... You would think they might mention that this over priced ocean front room had no view of the ocean..... Best Western you are DEAD to me......

    4
« Simple Outer Banks Visit »

This hotel has great space in the rooms and the updates were in just the right places, like the bathroom. The beds and TV's were comfortable enough for a simple family vacation. The breakfast was great, but housekeeping was a little slack. The pool area and walk to the beach were very simple and allowed our 10 year olds and 6 year old some independence while being easily monitored.

    4
    « Ok stay »

Found this hotel last minute....we had a suite on the first floor that overlooked the pool. The suite was large and clean. I feel their overpriced for the rooms...hallway extremely small. building needs maintenance on the outside. The staff was excellent....Felt bad for the receptionist, as she was alone...The breakfast was very good and the staff there was terrific and greeted each guest....They knew their job very well....Wouldn't go back due to overpricing for what you get.

    5
« We love Ocean Reef! »

we have stayed with Ocean Reef many times over the past 38 years of going to the Outer Banks. Last year they did rennovations and updated the rooms. We love staying there. It is a very central location in the Outer Banks. Close to good restaurants and a very nice beach area

    3
    « Disappointing »

We stayed here for two days in early September. The suite was nice and roomy and in good repair but the general state of the hotel is a bit shabby, especially the elevators. The room was clean and neat when we arrived but the housekeeper did a lousy job of cleaning the next day, not even bothering to rinse out the coffee I had poured into the kitchenette sink. The bed linens and bath towels are dingy and worn and the bed sagged. For two days it was tolerable but for a week I would go elsewhere.

    4
    « Decent Stay »

Overall a decent hotel. Nothing too fancy and the rooms are slightly dated. Slightly overpriced due to labor day weekend, may be more worth the while if booked in during the off season. Advantage of the hotel is that it is next to the beach.

    2
« Stay away until they get the smells out of rooms!! »

We are a group of 12 on m'cycles. We have stayed in nice places, decent places and bad places. This is a bad place right now due to smell. They said all rooms took water and they all smell bad. We are going from room to room smelling and looking for mold. Im not even sure if they should be open, legally or just plain decency

    4
« Last minute change of plans »

My family and I had booked another hotel because our regular place was booked. With the storm over Labor Day weekend, the hotel we were booked with called us mere hours before check in to tell us our room had been damaged. We were arriving on the Outer Banks from a 6 hour drive to find out we had nowhere to stay. We drove out to this hotel and we were delighted they had a ocean view room available. If you are accustomed to small rooms at the beach, this place is much roomer for a family to be able to spread out some. The room was on the 5th floor and had taken some water, but that was totally understandable due to the horrible storm. Glad we had a great weekend!

    5
« Nice hotel with ocean view »

Very nice hotel, with two rooms, separate bathroom and a great ocean view. We had a nice stay. Few steps away from the beach, very convenient and easy access. Nice breakfast with a lot of choices and from what we have heard they change it a little every day to make more interesting.

    4
« Decent ocean front hotel, comfortable for family of 5 »

Our family of 5 stayed here for 2 nights before getting into our beach house. PROS: It was nice being so close to the beach, the AC worked great and the rooms were comfortable. I liked the Murphy bed in the living room which allowed more space during the daytime. We had ocean view room that overlooked the pool from the 3rd floor, though it wasn't the greatest view, it was nice to catch a glimpse of the ocean. CONS: I was not happy with the cleanliness of the room. There was thick dust on the shelf in the bathroom which is where they kept the towels (gross!) The pool was nice but didn't open until 10:00 am. They had a 2 night minimum and it would have been better for us to just stay one night. I didn't sleep well because the walls were thin and I heard loud noises and carrying on outside our room all night. We had to call multiple times asking for more towels and when they finally came, the person knocked loudly and incessantly on our door for the full 10 seconds it took us to answer which seemed unnecessary and rude. This place was fine but we will look for somewhere else to stay next year.

« do not know what this means »

great hotel but pool and fitness room need to open at 7am, not 10am. check out is at 11am and 10am gives no time to swim or exercise. Really good location and access to the beach was perfect. The pool was really nice and clean, but needs to open earlier in the morning.

    3
    « Could be better.... »

Aug. 2016, Not close to being luxury accommodations. I guess it's basically what you would expect for a "beach hotel", well used. Felt like it had been patched & painted to make it feel newer. It may have just been the actual color of the towels, but they had an off-white look to them which was a little off putting. AC unit was loud.

    4
« One of the OBX nicer hotels »

The hotel was renovated a couple of years ago and it is one of the nicer places to stay on the OBX with updated furniture and finishes. The rooms are all suites and have kitchenettes, however they chose to remove the stoves during the renovations. The location is great very central to everything. The beach is pretty wide and nice as well. The hotel is generally pretty quiet and it's easy to get a good nights sleep.

    4
    « OBX Hotel »

Not the cleanest we have stayed in, but also not the dirtiest. Things like windows and doors need to be cleaned. Bathrooms and the rest of the room were clean. The continental breakfast had something for everyone although the room could have been larger. Location is good.

    5
    « 6 people in a suite »

Very clean, breakfast is good (would be better to have the waffle maker somewhere else - a long line for it that backed up all others). We had 6 people in the room and with the Murphy bed there was plenty of room. The mattress for the Murphy bed was pretty lumpy. Would love to see the pool open later (closed at 930). We have been here in the past love the remodeled rooms and the larger fridge. The front desk was very helpful. Parking could be a problem in the busy part of the season but we had 3 vehicles and had no problems. The AC unit vents onto the balcony making it extra warm and loud when sitting outside. We have been here many times in the past and will continue to return to this hotel. A great option - right on the beach, an actual suite a warm pool.

    5
    « Absolutely perfect stay »

We had several rooms booked for my daughter's wedding. From the first telephone call to Gail to book our stay to the point when we checked out was trouble free. Our experience there made the this special moment for our family even more special. Each and every member of the Best Western staff from Housekeeping to Maintenance to Front Desk went out of their way to see that we were all taken care of. The biggest Thank-You I can offer is this review and my endorsement will hopefully encourage anyone staying in Kill Devil Hills to consider this location.

    3
« Best Western Kill Devil Hills »

Expensive for the quality of the hotel. However, it is located in a resort area and your are trapped by that environment. The area is very nice to visit and there is lots to see and do. Motel has good access to the beach and all the surrounding amenties for tourist.

    3
« Pricey for an average hotel »

Nice views. We were 4th floor ocean view. Great central location. Breakfast was good (hot and variety!) and the servers were very nice. Hotel is well worn and could use a renovation. Pool was not bad, hot tub was basically a large outdoor bath tub. Fitness room tiny with a one-person-at-a-time bathroom. Spa? Nope...that is a mistake. Beds were comfortable enough. Didn't try the Murphy bed. Blankets and bedspreads were very worn. Sheets and towels were typically thin. Best part was a full refrigerator and microwave in the room. Average rating because there are few hotels at OBX that I'd give much higher than that. And plenty I'd give a much lower rating.

    « Hmmmm...... »

We stayed at this hotel ten years ago and had a good experience and seeing online that they recently updated their rooms I decided to visit the outer banks again and stay here. I don't normally give bad reviews but I can't let this one go. The rooms are updated and perfectly set oceanfront but.......our first day we were stuck in the elevator with another family for quite a few moments. I had to call the front desk on my cell phone and inform them we were stuck on the elevator on the first floor. We pushed all the buttons and finally the elevator took us to another floor and let us out. After that a sign was placed on the elevator door saying it was out of order. Good thing there was another working elevator everyone could use until it was fixed later the next day. On our third day there we had been out all day sight seeing and returned to our room around five expecting housekeeping to have been there to leave fresh towels. I called the front desk asking for towels and they expressed that the dryer was broken and needed a part and the laundry boy was doing his best to keep up and would deliver towels later that night. We had our towels delivered around eight. House keeping overall only emptied our garbage and exchanged towels daily as part of their routine. Not acceptable.

« Average Beach Motel but thats Very Good »

3 night stay in August with 2 girls 4 & 5 yrs old. Nice price since you get the suite. We priced out many places but they were the same price with the standard 2 doubles. Our kids sleep much nicer in their own beds in hotels so they took the bedroom and we took the murphy. GREAT: Suite, Murphy Bed, Breakfast staff (hardest workers at the hotel! Breakfast room is a little cramped but they stay on top keeping things fresh and clean), easy walk to the beach (we were 2nd floor so one flight of stairs down and around the corner and we were on the walkway to go over the dune. GOOD: Pool worked good, kids loved it was never too busy for a quick after dinner dip which the kids loved. Breakfast food solid. Eggs and sausage one day, French toast and sausage the next and 2 waffle makers. Location is good. Wright Brothers on the other side of 158, so easy to get to all Kill Devil and Nags Head fun. Quiet, even though we were on the 2nd floor over looking the pool you didnt hear a thing. BAD: House cleaning. During our 3 night stay so 2 cleanings. 1st cleaning - they gave us new towels, nothing done to beds or living area. 2nd cleaning - even less, took garbage. Took dirty towels. Gave us 1 new towel sorta folded on the sink. No bath mat though. Didn't vacuum for sure. We spilled some chips so there was a spot of crushed dust, totally left in touched. If we were staying another day we would complain but what's the use. Sliding glass door was so hard to open and close. Made it not worth it to go in and out too often. OVERALL Would recommend and come again after a quick shopping around.

    « OBX Summer Vacation 2016 »

This year we spent our annual August holiday in The Outer Banks of North Carolina and stayed at the Best Western Ocean Reef Suites. The decision was the best one. The hotel was super clean, updated and modernized with its chic decor and room amenities while maintaining the integrity of its surroundings. The manager, staff and maid services were as pleasant, supportive and courteous as could be. Southern hospitality on display front and center. The breakfast was well executed and food was perfect for our family of four. Even the coffee was as I like. The pool and jacuzzi were exceptionally clean and so was the pool area. Of course, the beach was everything I had read about in The OBX and Ocean Reef was right over the dunes. I would not hesitate to use this property again as it was a great value and a lot was provided in return. It was also in relative proximity to outstanding restaurants and evening attractions. Seth P.

    « It was okay »

Nice location with nice view(if you got the right room) The rooms were nice and big for family but their not really clean. Bad attitude of front desk staff. Love the breakfast and kitchen staff, they are so hospitable and passionate. ????????

    « Suprisingly Great »

I stayed here in June 2016. I was very surprised it was nice. The room was fantastic. I stayed in the ocean view room. I was very impressed with Best Western. Breakfast was good too! They should have it in a larger room or more than one...its somewhat confusing to find.

    5
« Great location and spacious suites! »

We stayed here for a week on our family vacation. Had read about the difference between "oceanfront" and "oceanview" before booking, so we reserved a "poolside/partial oceanview" suite which was just as advertised and perfect. You can't beat the location of the hotel and its amenities - steps from the beach, large pool with outside showers to rinse off, complimentary breakfast with both hot and cold selections, and ample-sized suites that allow you to spread out, store food in the large fridge, and hang out on the balcony enjoying the views. Staff was helpful and happy to assist, and location was nice and central to all the Outer Banks have to offer. Would definitely stay here again.

    2
« BW Ocean Reef Suites »

The staff/Best Western was not accommodating. They refused to give my daughter and her family the same rate that she already had a reservation for the next night. They quoted a ridiculuous price of over $500. Comfort Inn accommodated her family that night for a price of $173 + tax

    5
« Right on the beach, great room and view »

Every room is a suite with a view. Breakfast is taken care of and you are right on the beach. It is also centrally located to everywhere on the OBX. the rooms are comfortable and the view is amazing. Black pelican flew by us at eye level all day. I even got to sit in the airconditioning and take pics of the kids swimming.

« Nice clean place - helped us out. »

We booked an OCEANFRONT Room but when we chacked in it was a view of the dunes - no oceanview. We were very unhappy but they did accommodate us. They gave us a partial room view on the 5th floor. We were very grateful to them!!!! They were nice about it. So, when booking and you want to see the ocean remember to check for OCEANVIEW. Other than that the breakfast were great - a wide variety. The only thing is it is a small area but we were always able to find a seat there. Rooms were clean and the suite is very big I thought. My son slept on the murphy bed in the suites living area and loved it. He had his own space (pre-teen). The beds are double beds so if you are used to a king bed it may be small for you and a partner. The staff is very nice and helpful. Again, the front desk were very accommodating to us. I was also impressed by the breakfast servers. They never let anything run out on during breakfast. We were happy with out stay and would stay there again. I would recommend this hotel.

    « Exceeded Expectations »

I stayed at the Best Western Ocean Reef Suites for four nights in August with my husband and two children (ages 14 and 7). We were very happy with the hotel. Our room (403) was on the fourth floor. The suite had a good sized separate bedroom with two double beds, a closet and dresser. There was also a very large living room area with a double sized murphy bed, a sofa, two comfy chairs, ottoman and a dining table with four dining chairs. There was a tv in the bedroom and in the main room. The room also had two bathroom areas, a sink, mirror and full closet on one side and a shower, toilet, sink and mirror on the other. These spaces were separated by a door. There was also a microwave and larger than average fridge. I was very impressed by the amount of space and storage in the room. It was nice for our family to be able to spread out and not be on top of eachother. The room also has a sliding glass door that opened onto a nice sized deck. The deck area overlooked the small dune behind the hotel, the beach and the ocean beyond. The deck looked to the east and so we were able to get up and watch the sun rise over the water in the morning from our very own balcony. The hotel reminded me of the classic beach motels that I went to as a child. It was not fancy. The accomodations are not 5 star luxury in nature. I gave my five star review because the room was huge, it was kept very clean and the location and view are amazing. The hotel has an outdoor pool and hot tub. We did not use the hot tub but did enjoy the pool, which was clean and well maintained. The hotel also has beach access. The walk to the beach is very short, really just steps away. The beach itself is well maintained and the sand both on the shore and in the water is clean. No issue with rocks, shells or seaweed. There is also a lifeguard station right next door. The surf was not an issue for two of the days we were there. We were all able to go into the water and bob up and down in the waves. The other two days, however, only my 14 year old son was brave enough to go out. The rest of us stayed at the water's edge and let the surf hit before we touched it. That was when we used the hotel's pool so that my 7 year old could swim. At night people take flashlights out to the beach to look for crabs. The hotel does not provide chairs or umbrellas. We brought ours from home. We also brought beach towels, but I did notice that the hotel will provide towels for the pool. The hotel also had included in the price a better than average breakfast. There was the typical cereal, pastry and waffle maker. Each morning, however, the hotel also had a breakfast meat (sausage or bacon) and another warm entre such as French toast or eggs. This was our first time to the Outer Banks and we liked the Kill Devil Hills location. There were a number of good restaurants near by and we seemed central to many of the attractions we wanted to enjoy. The area which might be improved in my opinion was the Wi-Fi, which we connected to but which seemed to kick us off regularly. Ultimately, we really fell in love with our Outer Banks experience and were very happy we chose to stay at Best Western Ocean Reef Suites.

« Right on the Beach - Wonderful Place »

This is a well run property with an extensive breakfast included. Kind, caring staff. We had a suite - included a full size fridge, wet bar, microwave. Living room has a Murphy Bed in it - balcony overlooking the ocean right off of it. Bedroom had 2 double beds. Just a wonderful property to relax and enjoy - a couple of blocks away from the Wright Memorial and Museum.

    « Lovely »

Though hotel stay was excellent, the price was on higher side. I had taken ocean view room and room balcony had awesome view of beach. The floor had ice-machine. The breakfast was good (omelette, sausages, bread, juices, fruits, coffee, pan cakes etc.)

« Poor front desk service »

We had issues with the TV, no service half of our stay, and no internet service for 2 days, and feel the front desk was too young and inexperienced to handle the complaints and felt that all they could was apologize and go back to thumbing through the magazines they were looking at even after we asked for a maintenance staff member to help and investigate the problems.

« Great Value / Free Breakfast Exceeded Expectations »

Beautiful views and close beach access; good value for the money. Our family of 4 enjoyed our stay very much. The murphy bed was very handy. Free breakfast exceeded our expectations. The breakfast area is cramped but manageable. The breakfast staff did a wonderful job and were friendly. Front desk/check-in clerk not so friendly but got the job done and gave us suggestions for restaurants. Housekeeping was adequate. We did ask for extra towels which were promptly supplied. We asked for an extra blanket on the murphy bed which was never supplied but we managed just fine. We stayed on the 5th floor. Very quiet which we appreciated. Pool was nice and clean. We did not use the hot tub which had a faint green tinge to it. Doors could have more secure locks but we still felt safe. Plenty of free parking. I could on about small details but the bottom line is that this is a GREAT VALUE for the money and the FREE BREAKFAST BETTER THAN USUAL. You can't go wrong here if you're looking to save a few bucks to have it to spend on family activities instead. We would return again. One suggestions would be for a small tiki bar of smoothies/sno cones/ice cream etc. be sold at the pool area (there's money to be made there for sure).

« Great location but overpriced!!! »

We were so disappointed with this hotel! It has been updated recently, but it was really expensive for the value. The breakfast area was really tiny, and the front desk staff was not friendly. We felt like we were bothering the staff every time we asked for help. The view was great but not worth the price.

« Location, location, location - right on the beach »

There's not much that can compare to having an ocean view room, opening up the patio door and watching the sunrise in your jammies. I'm giving the hotel 4 bubbles just for that! If it weren't on the beach, I'd be giving this hotel a pretty tough review, for overall the room quality is below average for a 3* hotel. For the price we paid in peak season, we could have had a room in an upscale 4* hotel almost anywhere else in the country. Time and salt air have not been kind to this hotel, and although our room had an updated kitchen, the rest of the hotel could use a refresh. Staff were all very friendly and helpful, and breakfast was good. And there's nothing that compares to being right on the beach. There's a lifeguard station on the beach more-or-less right in front of the hotel, so you basically walk out of the hotel and you're in a great spot on the beach.

    4
    « Updates »

Rooms are updated since our last stay. Suite style room felt spacious and comfortable. Beach access is convenient and a lifeguard is closely. Outdoor pool was awesome after time at the beach (outdoor shower is present to rinse off first). Please fix the bathtub plug so it can be closed for a bath. This was problematic for traveling with young children.

    « Outer Banks visit »

We had never been to the Outer Banks so visited AAA for advice. After reviewing our options, I chose the Best Western Ocean Reef Suites and am glad I did. The staff was very accommodating especially the breakfast staff who kindly gave my husband a cup of coffee even before they opened. The ocean access was excellent, and I enjoyed my balcony.

« Best on the beach! »

Located right on the beach, Ocean Reef Suites is clean and spacious. Breakfast is included and most of the staff are friendly and helpful. Plus, it's not overpriced for all that it offers--it's a great deal!

    « OBX Best Western »

Excellent location and well worth the price. The staff are helpful and respond to requests and needs. The pool and beach are excellent. There are many good restaurants and bars within close proximity.

    « Great place...stay here! »

Very well maintained property in perfect location! Suite we had was very big, well appointed and awesome view. Pool was nice and employees went out of there way to help us check-out but let us leave our car parked stay at the beach.

    « Flawless this time!! »

Noticeable improvements in the Wi-Fi support, but also in the modeling of the rooms. Terrific staff. I have always enjoyed this hotel for it's central location to major OBX attractions but more importantly their spacious rooms. Keep it going!!!!

« A Hotel That Doesn't Care About Their Guests »

To Whom It May Concern: I recently stayed at Best Western in Kill Devil Hills on Saturday July 2nd thru July 4th. My fiance' and I arrived at 8:30am and walked into the front desk letting them know "I know we may not be able to check-in but wanted to let you know we are here so if we could check in early that would be great!" The front desk agent literally shook her head stating, "No" She didn't even look in the system to see if we would be able to check-in. I explained to the same front desk agent that I am in the hospitality industry myself so I didn't think we would be able to check in now however, but would like to check in early. I also asked her if we could be on the same floor as our friends but we didn't need to be next to them because I knew that could be more difficult then getting us on the same floor. Again, WITHOUT looking she said, "No, I can't!" I asked, "Why aren't you able too?" She said, "We don't have any rooms available!" I said, "You don't have rooms available? So, you can't move someone from the 2nd floor (which is where she had blocked me) to the fifth floor (which is where my friends were blocked)?" She again said, "No!" I took a business card and left! I sat in my car and contact the hotel. I asked to be transferred to a manger once the front desk agent answered. I spoke with a manager about my issue and her response was "The reason we can't get you all on the same floor is because you all booked 'ocean view' and the other party booked 'ocean front.'" I explained to the manager that if I was told that verses being told a straight "NO" then I wouldn't have called her. The manger then proceeds to tell me "The agent is fairly new and has only been with us for about a week now!" The manager grabbed my cell phone number and was to notify me when I could check in which I thought she would try and get me in early by grabbing this information but I was wrong. SUGGESTION: If you have a new employee make them have an "in training" ribbon to wear with the name badge OR make sure another trained agent is at the desk with them so ALL the information can be explained to the guest verses being told straight, "NO!" At about 10:59am my fiance' Leo went to the desk before we headed to the pool to see the status of us checking in early. We were told by the SAME front desk agent that the guest in our room hasn't checked out yet. Okay, it was 10:59am....check out is at 11am and it's a holiday weekend and your telling me they haven't checked out yet which also means you have me BLOCKED in room and you are REFUSING to move me rooms so I could check in early and make a HAPPY guest. At about 1pm, my fiance' calls from the pool area and speaks with Gail about us checking in. Again, we arrived at 8:30am, housekeepers arrived at 9am (we watched them from my car in the parking lot walk in), check out was at 11am and it's now 1pm and we still CAN'T check-in. I get that check-in isn't until 4pm however, I also know we weren't the only guest who were trying to check-in early. I also know that it is POSSIBLE to get guest in early because I have done it at my hotel. I also know that out of the WHOLE hotel there isn't just ONE of the rooms that I booked! After my fiance' spoke with Gail, I chose to speak with the General Manager Carrie who was RUDE! She basically told me because I am familiar with the industry that I should know what to expect! Um no, because in my hotel we CARE about our guest and we get them in early!! It's not HARD, as long as you have an excellent staff, as long as management stays on top of it and as long as there is communication involved! I wasn't asking to be checked in at 8:30am but by 1pm I was expected to be checked in. After speaking with Carrie and getting no where with her I called Best Western Customer Care 1:18pm. I spoke with Jay from the customer care department. I explained my situation with him, he contacted the hotel and told me that our room would be ready by 2pm. I thanked him and went back to try and enjoy my day. At 2:10pm my room was still NOT ready!! So, customer care who is supposed to help resolve problems told me my room would be ready at 2pm and it still wasn't ready!! SERIOUSLY!! It' get worse, at about 2:15pm-2:30pm my friends who were on the 5th floor there room was READY and they were able to check in!! Keep in mind they didn't arrive until 11:30am. I get back on the phone with customer care and spoke with Wyatt but asked to be transferred to a customer care supervisor which was Amy. She contacted the hotel which was told that our room would be ready by 3pm now!! So basically 2 hours from when I called customer care the first time. While I was on the phone with customer care, the hotel called me to tell me my room was ready! About Time!! After speaking with Amy, she told me that she would have someone from management give me a call. Here we are 07/06/2016 at 10:53am and STILL HAVEN'T received a phone call from management. Also, while we were checking in we saw 5 other families checking in as well and housekeepers were leaving at 3:30pm which goes to show that we could have checked in early. OUR STAY: We got into our hotel room (room 206) and the closest door handle came off as soon as we opened it, the towels were yellow (they shouldn't have been in the room period looking like that) and the light in the living room next to the pull out didn't work. The room we were in was the SAME EXACT room that my friends were in on the 5th floor (room 511) and the same EXACT room that their parents were on the 2nd floor (room 213). As far as the "view" goes they ALL faced the beach the ONLY difference was room 213 and room 511 you could see the pool and the beach but my room you could ONLY see the beach therefore, I am not sure why we couldn't be on the same floor. Saturday night 07/02/2016 at about 9:30pm we were locked out of our room completely. The key card would turn green but the door wouldn't open. I tried twice before approaching the front desk because I didn't think it could be the lock-that normally turns two colors if it's the battery-but it was turning green. We still couldn't get it open so we went to the front desk which is where we met Krystal or Crystal either way she was AWESOME!! We explained our situation to her and without hesitation she got up, locked the front desk doors and walked up with us. She tried the door, saw it turn green and tried to push it open but she couldn't get it either. She went to get a screw driver to try and undo the lock but she thought the screw was stripped so after about 10 minutes of trying to got up and said, "I may need to call my maintenance man in but lets try it again."We stuck the key in and this time we were able to get in." THANKS KRYSTAL (CRYSTAL) for your EXCELLENT SERVICE!! Sunday 07/03/2016; my fiance' still had issues getting in the room this afternoon we went to the front desk and spoke with the same agent we spoke with when we arrived. We explained the issue and explained our "Do Not Disturb sign" was on but the maintenance guy can go in there if need be. We returned back to the room with NO SIGN of the maintenance guy being in there. There wasn't a note left from the maintenance guy and no phone call from the front desk making sure it was resolved. So, as far as I am concerned maintenance never went in our room. SUGGESTION: When there is an issue like there was on Saturday where a guest locked out of their room MANAGEMENT should still contact the guest the next day to apologize even if it was resolved. We DIDN'T get a phone call or anything. SUGGESTION: When their is an issue and maintenance is requested to enter a room or look at a room from the outside have them leave a note stating that it is fixed or have the front desk call the room to make sure it was resolved! FOLLOW UP with the guest means more to the guest then you will ever know because it shows that you as a hotel care!! Today, I spoke with Mike from Customer Care because I still haven't received a call from Management like I was told from Amy on 07/02/2016. I'm not only writing an email to complain but also provided suggestions as well. All in all, management needs to be looked at. The ONLY good thing that is going on with the staff is Krystal (Crystal) who gave me some "hope" with getting things resolved. She actually showed she cared and made the effort to go the extra mile to get us in our room. Other than that my stay was HORRIBLE and I wouldn't reccomand this hotel to ANYONE!! Yours Sincerely, Alexis

    « Had a great time! »

Although the hotel room was a little dated, it was clean and well maintained. We chose the pool side room which was easy access to the beach and pool. It was a suite- a separate bedroom along with a Murphy bed in the main room had plenty of room for our family of five. Kitchen area had a full size, sink, and fridge but does not have cooking utensils (and not a stovetop). Laundry facilities are on 3rd floor and were clean and easy to use. The breakfast varied daily and the employees did a fantastic job of keeping it stocked and cleaned. Only issue with the breakfast area was that it was very small and difficult to navigate because very crowded. We really enjoyed this location and are making plans to return next summer!

    « Not recommend »

The location of the hotel is great and right on the beach. The breakfast was fantastic and so were the breakfast hosts. We encountered several unfriendly staff at the front desk. They seemed bothered with questions that we had. The rooms have been updated and clean. The rest of the hotel needs to be updated.

    « Warm and welcoming »

We were very happy with this motel. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast featured warm eggs and bacon plus continental offerings. It was quite good. Desk, dining and cleaning personnel were all helpful. We'll definitely return.

    « Would Recommend! »

As a family of five, we were looking for a nice kitchen during our stay. Our room had a good-sized fridge, microwave, and additional kitchen sink which were wonderful (while it didn't have a stove top, we were able to do without). The cleaning service was great. When we asked for extra towels we got them without problems. There was a good-sized laundry which we used often. The location was excellent, we were right on the beach so that we didn't use the pool once during our stay but instead were able to fully enjoy the sea. Overall excellent experience and I would highly recommend this hotel!

« Great central place right on beach »

Rooms are nice, but outside of the hotel is dated. Probably built in mid 1980's. Direct access to the beach. Heated pool and hot tub as well. Free breakfast in mornings. Chairs on beach are not free, they charge you for them.

Great location, right on the beach, even offer a shower to rinse off after a day at the beach right by the pool. Really good breakfast & good choices. Lots of restaurants nearby. Wright Brothers monument is close by. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are very comfy, beds were great.

The hotel layout worked great for our family. It was convenient to a lot of other things to do in and around the Outer Banks. Right on the beach and it had a nice pool too. Laundry room was convenient also.

« Memorial Day Weekend GetAway »

First, I have to be really thankful that the hotel let us check in super early after a five hour trip on Friday so that alone gives them high marks in my book. We've stayed elsewhere in the Outer Banks and the other properties stuck to their 4pm check in. Getting to check in early at the Best Western gave us almost half a day at the pool which was a great way to start a vacation. I reserved a partial ocean view room with a view of the pool and sure, while it wasn't a total ocean view it was still completely adequate and I was able to watch the dolphins frolicking in front of our room on two days. The room itself was a little strange. There was a couch, dining area and a Pullman bed in the wall in the front part of the room by the balcony and the bedroom was immediately on the left when you entered with a window facing the parking lot. I was a little disappointed that I wouldn't be able to hear the ocean from my bed but there is no screen door on the balcony so I don't know if I would have left it open anyway. The room was a little dark and dreary by the bedroom and bathroom and, in general, the room seemed to have a half updated/half not kind of feel to it. It felt dated but the bathroom clearly had been redone because it was much more modern than some of the furniture in the "living room." It was clean, however, and that's always a huge plus in my book. The parking in the front of the hotel was ample and the hotel is very convenient to lots of shopping and dining (and our favorite restaurant - Kill Devil Grill). There is also a small grocery mart and deli and gas station directly across the street which was SUPER convenient for buying our picnic lunch for the beach. Additionally there is a company that rents umbrellas and chairs in front of the hotel which was nice for us since we didn't schlep all our stuff down with us but it was $64 for two umbrellas and three chairs so it was pretty pricey. Then again, we didn't have to schlep all our stuff from home! :) So, would I stay there again? Yes I would for the convenience to the beach and the surroundings but it's by far not the nicest room I've ever been in. The staff are friendly and helpful though and let's face it, you shouldn't be sitting in your hotel room at the beach anyway!

This hotel is great! All suites so theres 2 rooms! Updated and remodeled, everything is really nice! Pool and hot tub thats never crowded! Steps to the beach, lifeguards right beside the hotel. This hotel is awesome when traveling with kids who still need to nap during the day due to the separate bedroom!

« Got the okey doke. »

I booked this hotel literally in July, 2015 for a June 2016 stay. As early as one could book into the future. I paid $109.xx a night. I booked the following: Room Details: Suite-2 Double Beds, Non-Smoking, Ocean Front, Separate Living Area, Murphy Bed, Continental Breakfast Here is the bad and I'll follow up with the good. Upon arrival, we were in 100 level rooms which is the ground level. I asked if it was ocean front and the response I got was 'no, only the 3rd through 5th levels are oceanfront" So I asked about getting an oceanfront room, since that is what the above says, and I was quoted at $289.xx, which is more than double that what I had paid. No other option was available. The only view we had was just of sand, 100% sand. Now the latter. The visitors above us decided to feed the birds. So we could not step out out of the room, with a little one, since there were chips, popcorn, and oreos all over the ground. I would generally say from hour to hour there were in the neighborhood of 3 birds to 50 birds outside the door during the day. This latest for our entire 3 day trip. So not only was it not oceanfront, nor sand, it was birds, lots and lots of birds feasting. Since we could not use the patio, we were regulated to use the wifi. Simply put the wifi dropped more often than not. I did a speed test and each time was under 1. The drain in the shower did not work like it should. Standing water, which very, very slowly drained over some 10-15 minutes. The last negative here. I know the difference between a palmetto bug, a water bug and a roach. I have pictures but decided who really wants to see a bug in there hotel room. It serves no purpose really other than to damage a reputation. I'm sad to say there were 2 roaches just inside our doorway. We put everything we had into the refrigerator if we were leaving the room. Now the good. Great location nestled between kitty hawk and nags head. There is a pretty good store across the street that sells subs, which was helpful. The property itself is in pretty good condition. Updated kitchen, tv, bathroom amenities. The carpet was brown and thankful so, since if you walked around barefoot, it would turn your feet black. We wore shoes in the room. The access of getting to the beach was obviously the nicest thing. The parking was plentiful. The bed comfort level was adequate. Nothing fancy but not terrible either. The pool and pool deck was fine. There was a maintenance man out there daily to clean it. Overall, I would not recommend staying there. I don't think I've ever left a 'terrible' review, but this one seemed justified. Just seemed like they invested in new amenities and now are not invested with maintaining it, cleaning it or keeping up with it. Mainly I don't enjoy being tricked. If something says Oceanfront, one would like assume you would actually be able to see the ocean. If it's Dunefront, say it, but don't trick or bump up the price of the room to sell something that it's really not.

always stay here at the Best Western Ocean Reef Suites when my friend from PA comes for her yearly visit to the OBX. The suites are so roomy & comfortable the 2 of us have our own TV & privacy since both the bedroom & living room have a door. we spend a lot of hours just sitting on the balcony watching the ocean & listening to the fun being had by all by the pool.

I stay here a lot as I have a boat in Nags Head. This is the best value and cleanest hotel on the beach.Keep in mind that hotels at the outer banks are not like most places. 80% of the hotels are outdated and not very clean.Carrie the manger of this property does a superior job with the facility and the staff. On my last stay Crystal corrected a couple of issues quickly and was a pleasure.Ashley has helped me on the phone and is great.I will always stay with my friends at the Ocean Reef!

We love staying at this hotel not just because of the location, but because it is consistent in maintaining cleanliness, and upkeep of the hotel. Prime location too!! The only thing needed is a small bar in an unneeded room for guests to socialize.

    « Underwhelmed »

After researching hotels on the Outer Banks we decided to stay at the Best Western Ocean Reef Suites. Our check in was good (we had to sign that we were going to stay for the entire time booked or pay anyway). Some "guys" were hanging around the lobby area smoking, not sure who they were. When we got to our room we were pleasantly surprised how large it was. The beds were comfortable, it had a fridge and microwave, sink and coffee maker. They have remodeled recently, it was fine, but the outside of the hotel is "weird" The "breakfast" in the Monument Room was mediocre at best. When our toilet wouldn't flush and almost flowed over, the young girl at the front desk said WE could come down and get a plunger...... :-/ When we checked out the young girl (Different young girl) was VERY sick. When I asked her if she was sick she confirmed, I told her she shouldn't be working, she was going to get the guests sick, she just smiled.

    « Great Location »

We stayed here for six nights. The location is great since the beach is right behind the hotel. The room is large and has refrigerator, microwave, and a dining table. Our room was on the first floor which had direct access to the pool and spa. The hotel offers free breakfast and has very strong wi-fi. The maid service was slow so that we have to go to the front desk everyday to request cleaning before noon. The first day that we requested for cleaning of the room, our door was not close when we got back to our room ( not sure it was done purposely or the maid was planning to come back which she did not). We reported this to the front desk and it did not happen again.

    « Very good experience »

We had a great experience at this hotel. Our suite was comfortable and clean. Our room had a FULL-SIZED refrigerator and microwave, as well as a balcony with a view of the ocean. The breakfast is standard hotel continental stuff. Not spectacular, but not bad, either. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling to Kill Devil Hills, NC.

I stayed here in April 2016 when in town visiting family. It was too cold for the beach/pool so I can't comment on those. The hotel was clean, recently remodeled, room had a nice view. The breakfast was great and we were able to grab a few snacks to go. Our room had a kitchenette which we didn't use but it was a nice option. i would stay again.

The hotel is located on the beach, our room was an ocean/pool view suite, very comfortable room with a great balcony. « Outer Banks hotel »

This is the third hotel we stayed in on our trip. All three rooms were nice, but the registration desk people were less than friendly in the first two. This hotel registration person was very personable, friendly and helpful. The room is very clean and the layout is great. Price is reasonable, considering it is in a tourist area and we had a beautiful view of the ocean from our 4th floor room. We were missing wash clothes but were able to readily get some from the front desk and we spoke with housekeeping before the second night and upon returning to our room after a day of touring we not only found clean linens, including wash clothes, but also beautiful swans on the bed which had been crafted from additional linens and a nice note from the housekeeper. We have been very pleased with our visit here.

Traveled with my granddaughter and her friend. The suite layout worked out beautifully for us; separate bedroom, kitchenette, two bathroom sinks, balcony and a Murphy bed so no had to sleep on a sofa bed. We were right on the beach, perfect. The only issue we had was that our room was not made up on he second day. We were given fresh towels. The management said it was a problem they were working on. All in all, I would highly recommend this Best Western.r

« Great location, overpriced, poor maintenance »

We stayed at this property exclusively b/t 2005--2010. Returned May 3, 2016--Upgrades have been made to the kitchen, appliances, TVs and sinks--all positive, However, the water pressure in shower was horrible, paint was peeling on living room and bedroom ceilings, there are NO towel racks or hooks near shower/tub, or near outer sink, TP holders are poorly located, room décor average, The balconies, view of ocean, and location on beach are all excellent, Poor hot tub and pool needed paint and cleaning. Price was too high for a midweek stay in off season in an average hotel

    « Great Stay »

Great Location. Hotel was clean, amazing view of the ocean, and hot breakfast included. A very nice deli/store is located right across the street and this hotel is only a very short (1-2mi) drive from many sights and points of interests including the Wright Brothers Museum and Jockeys Ridge.

Great for watching the sunrise from an ocean front room! Spacious two room suite with kitchen appliances. Bathroom was somewhat small. Two TVs. Outside deck. Nice beach though somewhat narrow. Breakfast room gives a good view of the Kitty Hawk Memorial and the town. A quite adequate complimentary breakfast. Friendly staff. Could hear talking in the neighboring room.

    « Seaside get-away »

We stayed in room 113. We couldn't see the ocean, but it was only a 60 second walk over a sand dune to get to it. We could walk out our door to our patio and on to the hot tub (pool area) which we had to ourselves every night. The pool wasn't opened yet which meant it was very quiet and relaxing. It was being opened the day we left and I heard that a busload of 4th graders were arriving that day. Nice clean, spacious suite. Average beds and pillows.

« Great room on Outer Banks »

I was totally overjoyed with this suite. It provided plenty of living space, a small kitchen, great sleeping area. Of course, we loved the balcony looking out onto the ocean. I found the room to be very clean. The hotel was a good central location for all of the activities we chose. To top it off, the price was very good. I certainly will recommend this place to everyone I know.

« Not What I had hoped for........... »

I am a loyal Best Western Rewards member that is very faithful to the brand. I generally have great experiences at Best Western hotels. This was not one of my better stays. This was my first visit to the Outer Banks of North Carolina for my wife and I. I reserved my room a few months prior to visiting and requested a room on the highest available floor and early check in if possible. Check in time is 4:00pm at this particular hotel. We arrived at about 2:30pm and asked if the room was ready. It wasn't quite ready which was understandable. I was told that my room assignment had been selected and I would be on the 3rd floor. I inquired about getting a room on a higher floor, but was told that there were so many people checking in that day that I could not be accommodated. I asked the front desk clerk if there was anything I could do to improve my chances of getting a higher floor if I choose to return again. She told me that booking early and requesting a higher floor was all that could be done. I did that, but could only get as high as the third floor. I honestly didn't feel as though she made any effort to even look in the system to see if anything could be done. It wasn't a big deal, but the type of service you get from Hilton Honors for example is so exceptional, it shines a light on those that make no effort to honor your requests. I was told to come back in a while since the room was not ready. We went grocery shopping and returned at 3:30pm to check in. There was a different young lady at the desk this time. She told me that the room still wasn't ready. I was a bit surprised. I know check in is 4:00pm, but it still wasn't ready by 3:30pm? We left to grab a few other things from the store. We returned again at 3:50pm. The young lady looked at the computer and told me that the room STILL wasn't ready?and that she would call me when it was ready. She also told me that it was guaranteed to be ready by 4:00pm so I could check in then. 10 minutes. After first arriving at 2:30pm, asking for early check in..and 10 minutes prior to the general 4:00pm check in time the room was still not ready. So?was our room on the 3rd floor the last one to be cleaned in the entire hotel? How is it possible that my room was still NOT ready at 3:50pm?.but ten minutes later not only was our room finally available, but ALL of the other rooms in the entire hotel on all of the higher and lower floors were also ready? We literally could not check in until 4:00pm. When we got to the room, the room was still not cleaned as well as it should have been. After waiting until the last possible minute, I think it was reasonable to assume that the room would be spotless?but it wasn't. There was sand all over the Ottoman, and dining area furniture. A very kind woman from maintenance came to our room and cleaned it for us. We saw her throughout our stay, and she was always courteous and kind. The suite is very nice. It was an oceanfront suite with two double beds and a murphy bed in the living area. There is no longer a stove in the room as some of the older photos show. There is a microwave, an apartment sized refrigerator, a coffeemaker, and three sinks. The oceanfront is great from the 3rd floor up. The dunes block the view of the water on the bottom two floors. Our stay was going pretty well until our second night. At approximately 8pm we began hearing a bunch of noise coming from the room above ours. It was very loud and repetitive. It continued for about an hour before we called down to the front desk. The young lady at the desk said she would find out where the noise was coming from and would handle the situation. The rumblings continued for another 45 minutes before we called back. She told me that she had called the room she felt the noise was coming from to ask them to quiet the kids down, and that I was free to GO TO THEIR ROOM MYSELF to confront them. I was shocked. I have stayed in thousands of hotels around the world, and I have never had a hotel representative suggest that I go to another patron's room to initiate a confrontation that might not end well. The noises continued another hour, and my wife called back to the front desk again. She told the young lady that it wasn't our responsibility to go confront hotel guests in this way. The front desk clerk agreed to try again to do something about the continuous noises. After 3 and half hours of this, the noises finally stopped. I must tell you what I have concluded from my stay here. The suites are great, but there is a huge difference in the attitudes and effort of the daytime staffing from the evening/nighttime staff. I dealt with the daytime staff a few times during my stay. They were kind, smiling, and showed a great attitude and effort to protect the hotel reputation. The front desk clerks I encountered on the evening/nighttime staff were the exact opposite. I get the feeling that they aren't particularly thrilled to be working here based on their attitudes in general and their general lack of concern for customer satisfaction. Although Ashley and the daytime staff were awesome in every respect, and the suites were nice, we will probably stay somewhere else during our next stay in the Outer Banks.

« Older, but updated room »

We had a very large suite. Unfortunately, it only faced the unopened pool not the ocean. The room was older but nicely updated. The bedroom had 2 double beds and there was a murphy bed in the living area. It had 2 large flat screen TVs, a total of 3 sinks, a couch, 2 chairs, and a dining table with 4 chairs. It also had a small kitchen area and apartment sized refrigerator that could hold a week's worth of food. A family of 6 could comfortably have stayed here. The beds were very comfortable and the shower was great. We could have had a ocean view for more money. Breakfast was fine. The beach in front of the hotel was beautiful.

    « 2016 Bike Week »

The room was nice, over priced but nice, i had a perfect view of the beach. I would definitely stay at this hotel again, my only complaint was the price. The staff was friendly and very helpful, my room was clean and could have accommodated at least six people

Wonderful Experience, I will recommend this hotel for all friends and family. Great location for all your shopping needs, unique gift shops and restaurants. I love the fact that all the rooms are suites with nice sitting area comfortable furniture, nice flat screen TV's. The 2 sinks came in handy when trying to get ready for a night on the town.

« Nice hotel on beach »

Overall this was a very nice hotel. Its location central on the outer banks made traveling north or south a breeze. Breakfast was very nice in a clean well kept area. Beach just a short walk. The staff have me great recommendations for local restaurants. Only complaint was that in 5 nights they only cleaned my room twice. I was traveling alone so it wasn't a big deal but had I been traveling with family, it would have been a problem.

« Wow! Way beyond our expectations! »

I can not say enough about how great this hotel was. Totally changed my opinion of the Best Western chain. The staff was lovely & helpful, the room was huge with a beautiful ocean view. Great balcony! Everything was extremely clean. The free breakfast was average but a nice perk. Plenty of choices & everything was very clean there as well. The hotel is right on the beach & very close to many restaurants. There is also a convenience store across the street. I look forward to returning to this hotel in the future.

« Just OK to me »

Ok So this place isn't bad but it's not great either. Front desk ladies were very friendly and check in was easy. It was packed because of Bike Week at the beach. Our room was spacious but one of our sinks was nasty....never cleaned. We called and someone did come up and clean in it after a little wait. The wall's are paper thin. I could here conversation's for rooms, all around us. I might stay here again if the price is right but will probably try something else next time!. The best this is the location!

    4
« Great Rooms but not on the first floor »

The room itself is amazing, so much room to spread out a family of 5 could stay there comfortably! We as a family of 5 have always had a hard time finding a room big enough. The breakfast was excellent as well. The pool was not open, don't know why it is hot enough. The gym is small and outdated. I did not go to sauna. Ashley at the front desk was amazing, she really went above and beyond to help us feel better about not getting the room w/ balcony on the 2nd floor we were promised. Overall it ended up being ok thanks to her!

    « Great value motel »

We stayed here for a couple nights in early April 2016 wanting to get a touch of the Atlantic Ocean in our Pacific souls. This hotel hit the spot. It was a very good value. The price was on the lower end and it came with breakfast - always a bonus for me. The hotel is getting a little dated/worn, but for the price? Its awesome. It was very clean and well taken care of. All of the employees we came across were extremely polite and chatty. Not used to that with running into housekeeping, but they were so fun! My #1 goal was to be able to look out over the ocean and chill and we did.

    « Great hotel! »

Really liked this hotel! It was very clean and neat. Housekeepers are sweet. All staff is helpful and friendly. We had an oceanfront suite on 4th floor and was highly impressed with everything! The view from our balcony was amazing! Bed was comfy. Convenient location to shopping. We highly recommend this place!

« Nice but no Wifi »

This hotel is nice, but there is no Wifi, I called the front desk the lady was very nice, but was told by maintenance, that you can't have three cell phones at one time using the Wifi or it doesn't work. I have three teenagers and they need Wifi. So if you need Wifi don't stay here. We are here on April vacation, and the pool is still closed, the Days Inn which we can see from this hotel has their pool open. I would really like to give this hotel a better rating.

« Toes (almost) in the sand! »

Pleasantly surprised at the size and comfort of the room. It was a small apartment with a living/dining room separate from the bedroom. Kitchenette area had a full sized refrigerator rather than an under-counter type, along with a sink and countertop suitable for fixing snax or reheating a meal in the microwave. A pocket door separated the living area from bedroom, making the living room with it's pull down Murphy bed really a separate bedroom. My only complaint is that the room was on the ground floor, so to see the ocean, I had to walk over the dunes. Of course, that meant all I had to do was walk out the patio door, past the pool, and through the gate. Excellent value for the money! I'll be back!

    « poor recompense »

we were trying to enjoy our first real getaway in years to celebrate our 21st anniversary. We chose the hotel because of the penthouse suite and beachfront location. No smoking is a given. When we arrived the room smelled heavily of smoke, there were cigarette butts on the balcony, we had to spend the first night with the patio doors wide open to air out our room. When i reported the problems, the manager assured me they would clean it well and adjust the bill. The cleaning crew failed to clean up the butts on the patio, and upon check out the discount was only $30 for a $159/night room. Most disappointing and nasty.

    « 4/17/2016 »

Good value but needs a few minor repairs and upgrades. Rooms are clean, internet is slow, elevator is slow, but location is excellent. This is our second visit to this hotel. We were not as satisfied this time. The free breakfasts were very good.

Great place to stay, pleasantly surprised at the rooms and the breakfast was outstanding. The staff was as helpful as they could be because it seemed as if they were short staffed at the time of our stay but all and all was great. Would highly recommend this hotel and look forward to staying there again.

    « Handicapped Visitors Beware »

I highly recommend this hotel except that I booked an ocean view handicapped accessible room. The bathroom did not have an elevated toilet but did have an extension which had hand bars on each side. This would work for me but those individuals who are wheelchair bound and must side transfer from wheelchair to toilet and back could not use the extension. I have visited every state but have never had as much trouble with regulation handicapped access as on this trip along the coast of North and South Carolina. The vanity mirror was too high to be used from a wheelchair but the closet doors in the bathroom were mirrored so that worked. The price for this three room suite was terrific. We loved having the balcony from the living room, with wall mounted large flat screen TV, to view the ocean and even better was the back bedroom with another flat screen TV. We like to sleep in a dark room and this was the best we had on our trip. Every hotel we visited this trip had huge thick pillows. It would be nice to have two large and two flatter pillows as people have different preferences. The breakfast buffet was good and convenient.. We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this facility.

« First trip to the Outer Banks »

I chose the Best Western because I was traveling with my 2 grandsons, ages 7 and 9. BW had an ocean view/balcony suite that was perfect for me and my grandsons. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The free breakfast was nothing special, but the staff in the dining area was very helpful. I couldn't have asked for better at the price. I would definitely stay here again.

    « Perfect »

So impressed with this place. The price was brilliant. The check in was friendly and quick. The room was huge. A living area as well as a huge bedroom and a great bathroom. It was also extremely clean and spotless. The location was fantastic as it was right on the beach so we were able to get up and watch the sunrise over the ocean without travelling. Breakfast was included and very substantial. Everything was perfect and I would highly recommend this place.

    « Great location »

This hotel was quiet and comfortable and centrally located which made it convenient to make several day trips around the area to local wineries, a distillery, and restaurants. The beach area was beautiful and well-maintained and the view of the ocean from the balcony was breath-taking.

    « Poor service throughout »

I read great reviews on Ocean Reef Suites so decided to book it w=for a quick 3 night stay with my family. Upon arrival, we went to the front desk to check in. The woman was on the phone but did not acknowledge us with eye contact or even a finger in the air asking us to hold on a moment. We waiting over 8 minutes before she said a word to us (I had all the bags and 3 young children with me). I told her I was there to check in and she said "if you're room is ready" in a tone that made me feel she couldn't be bothered. When I asked if I could get a room on the 4th or 5th floor she told they were just too busy and she couldn't accomodate me. She kept going on and on about how they are so busy and was very short with me. When we arrived in the room, it smelled. The "pool" view would've been great if the pool was open. (it was 75 degrees and spring break, not sure why they wouldn't have the pool open). The internet was spotty at best (pretty much couldn't connect for a majority of the time). During our stay, the tv went out so I called the front desk to fix it. When we came back to the room 6 hours later the tv was still not fixed. The first day when housekeeping came in for service, they didn't vacuum (the kids had popcorn the night before and there were crumbs on the ground) or replenish the toilet paper or bath towels (which were on the ground in the bathroom). We had to call down for both...TWICE...before getting them. On the positive side, James the maintenance guy always had a smile on his face and a "good morning" for us and the man who runs the breakfast was also extremely nice and welcoming (and the breakfast selection was great!). But overall I am disappointed in the experience. I understand that sometimes the start of the season is tough and it takes a bit to get into the groove, but I expected more from my stay. I definitely would not be going back our next visit.

« Great suites, plenty of room and great ocean views »

This was our first visit to the Outer Banks and to this hotel. The front desk check in clerk was friendly and informative. Although we didn't need to use the Murphy bed in the living room, it is a great alternative to a sofa bed. The full sized refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and sink that comprises the kitchenette area was handy. I loved sitting in the front good-looking at the ocean. Very relaxing break and central to many attractions.

1st time in Kill Devil Hills, NC, had a great time at this hotel, even though it was just for 2 nights, the staff was great, the room was great and the bed was toooo comfortable, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area, great ocean view. There was a heck of a thunder storm my last night there but it was neat to here the loud thunder and walk out on the covered balcony (from the room above) and see the serious rainfall that occurred that early morning, want a great place to stay, this is it, enjoy, hope this helps in your travels to this area.

« Great staff, beautiful suite »

My daughter and I stayed a few days. Got off to a slow start having to wait a little while for our room but it was smooth sailing after that. Our oceanfront suite was nice. Beautiful comfortable furnishings. Everything modern and new looking. We stayed on the third floor. Breakfast room was down the hall and around the corner. A laundry room near the elevator. I saw snack machines on the ground floor and on the 4th floor. A clean workout room with a sauna was upstairs. The pool was closed on our visit. We only found one way to get to the beach. Walked around the front of the hotel (past the office) then around the side of the building to get to the steps leading down to the sand. Don't send your kids to do this without an adult. Wi-fi was off and on a few times during our stay but we really only used it in the early morning and late evening. When it was connected it was pretty fast. Breakfast was pretty decent. There were eggs and meat every day. Sausage links twice and bacon on our last day. Everyone pigged out on the bacon. It was funny to see so many people piling it on their plates. It was cooked crisp and no fat to be seen. My daughter got out of bed early for it even though she was tired that day. The hotel seemed full but I had no trouble parking where I wanted to. One thing I didn't like was getting to the door of our room. We had to turn in to a short narrow hall off the main walkway. The two doors at the end of the short hallway face each other at an angle and are THISclose to each other. The luggage carts won't fit in that narrow hall ( and neither do the housekeeping carts) because of the short amount of room and the sharp angle of the main hall compared to turning into the short hall to get to the room door. Thankfully we were never going or coming at the same time as our next door neighbor. Ashley and Crystal at the front desk and the couple who worked in the breakfast room were all fantastic. Housekeeping was wonderful too. Everyone worked very hard during our visit. We will definitely stay here again.

Staying at this hotel is more like staying in an oceanfront condominium. The rooms are spacious, clean and the views spectacular. The breakfast area is maintained by two people Connie & Irden who take better care of the breakfast area than most 5-star restaurants. Carrie Collie, the General Manager, has done an excellent job of identifying, hiring, and training a superior staff of people.

    « Outside needs work »

The suite was a good fit for our family and the recent interior updates were pretty nice, but the outside still needs some TLC. The people were friendly and it was a good value, but we were bummed that the pool was not open in early March. Thankfully there was a warm front and we were able to hit the beach. The ocean view is very nice and we could sleep with the ocean sounds. Could be a little cleaner and the sheets were pretty scratchy.

    « Very nice place »

The room was a suite which was very nice. I discovered that both of the end tables beside the bed were broken. i reported it to the front desk & they offered me another room. I declined. the rest of the suite was very nice & the breakfast was excellent all 3 days we ate there. Overall, a nice hotel.

    « So much space »

This suite was so reasonably priced for a tuesday in March. Everything was so comfortable. Loved having 2 sinks in the bathroom and one in the kitchen. Good furniture in the living room, you could close it off from the rest of the place as there was a Murphy bed. Would be good for more people! (we were only 2). Lovely view of the ocean. Bike shop next door rented us a tandem for $10 for the day. We used it to go to the Wright Bros Exhibit which is a must see. Everyone was just so friendly! Recommend going to "Ladles" for soup and salad.

    « After forty years »

My husband and I have been visiting the OBX since we were kids. We have eaten and stayed at a ton of places there. I am not sure why but we have never stayed at this hotel. From check in it was a great experience. The cute lady at the desk asked me if we had ever stayed there and I said no and she said well you won't want to stay anywhere else after this visit and boy was she right. The rooms were very clean, well laid out, and very spacious. The ocean view is to die for and there is a stop and shop across the street that is very convenient. The breakfast was also very nice and so were the lady and gentlemen working there. We will definitely be back to this one. A couple of suggestions would be wash cloths, paper towels and a little dish soap at the kitchenette would be greatly appreciated but otherwise, we really enjoyed this hotel.

« The Best Best Western »

I've stayed at nearly two dozen Best Western properties over the past couple years - this was the best. It was nearly midnight when Gale checked me in with a cheerful smile and professional speed, recognizing my fatigue. Her compassion and cheer were a fantastic first impression. The room was perfect, the bed so comfortable I slept better than I have in months and nearly missed the sunrise I'd determined to see from my balcony. Breakfast was outstanding, tended over with care by two solicitous hosts, the food never allowed to even halfway run short. The location is perfect, situated on the beach just a short walk from the Wright memorial. I will definitely be back!

Friendly, clean, spacious and a great value, especially for an oceanfront room with a balcony and a beautiful view from the 5th floor! Our suite had a separate bedroom with a tv (pillows were foam...the only negative, but we travel with our own anyway) a kitchenette and a living room with a murphy bed, dining table and chairs, tv and sofa. Nice two part bathroom with two sinks and vanity area. All of the employees we encountered were very friendly and helpful.Typical breakfast with hot and cold options is included. It is located close to restaurants and across the street from a convenience store and down the street from the Wright National Park and Museum. Very comfortable and very clean. We will stay here again when we are in the area.

This was an excellent hotel. Our suite was very clean and comfortable. The refrigerator was a good size, not one of those little ones in most hotels. The breakfast was incredible with sausage and bacon and eggs and waffles and great coffee. What an awesome place to get away.

    « always a pleasure to visit »

we always stay at this Best western every time we visit Outer Banks. It is always clean, staff always friendly and courteous. Hotel has been remodeled and is absolutely gorgeous. We like it because they are all suites with separate living and sleeping areas. I would highly recommend this hotel on the ocean. Great Price!

We are building a home nearby. This is a wonderful hotel for us when we visit to check on our home's progress! We receive an excellent rate and everyone is so nice and helpful! Plus, of course, the view cannot be beat!!

    « January at OBX »

Ashley was very friendly, professional and accommodating at check-in and check-out. We requested an upper floor room when I made the on-line reservation. She gave us an upper floor room with a fantastic view. It was during my conversation with Ashley that I knew this Best Western is a very well-managed hotel. The breakfast provided by Connie was fantastic and a big upgrade from previous stays years ago. The hotel has been very nicely remodeled. The rooms were extremely clean and well appointed. We stayed here often but were hesitant to stay here due to a unfortunate stay back in 2013 when the hotel was under different management. The previous manager promised a gift certificate which I never received. Well, we tried it again and we are glad we did. This hotel is fantastic. I would recommend this hotel to everyone, especially the folks who might not have given BW Ocean Reefs a stellar rating in the past. I would tell them to try staying at BW Ocean Reefs now. The change is really impressive from the professionalism of the staff, cleanliness and quality of the rooms to the great breakfast provided. Carrie, the current manager, made up for the promised gift certificate. The changes and upgrades she made to this hotel are all positive. We are definitely coming back.

    « Family Visit »

My husband and i enjoyed staying at this hotel while spending time with family who lived near the hotel. We stayed in a remodeled room on 1st floor. Space is quite large and would be great for a family. Separate bedroom, living room, kitchenette, and bath. Tv's are in living room and bedroom. Also 2 separate bath vanities and 2 large closets. Nice linens. We knew 1st floor would include a view of dunes and not ocean but within a couple of minutes you can walk to beach or parking lot. In summer first floor would be great to access the beach or pool. There is a nice porch with walkway to beach. Free breakfast in small room on 3rd floor with elevator access. Food was good and gentleman serving us was very pleasant. Great deal on rates this time of year. We stayed 5 nights. Great location for traveling north or south on OBX. The gas station across the street sells everything. Good deli. Will stay here again.

    « a memorial for a family member »

wonderful staff and very clean suite, I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for friendly staff, clean large suites which include a nice kitchen area for families. Seems to be very kid friendly. It would be absolutely perfect if it had an indoor pool for winter visitors.

« Poor Customer Service can do a lot of damage to Image »

This is an nice facility at a great location in Kill Devil Hills, NC. The hotel offers great amenities and the rooms are very clean. The quality of the linen was also very good!! However, my experience was dampened by an unfriendly and unhelpful member of the front desk staff at both check in and check out!! She represented the face of management and unfortunately created a very bad first impression for my wife and I.

« Great Location with Great Rooms »

This motel backs up to the beach so our beach view from the balcony was great. Big spacious rooms with a living room area separated from the bedroom. Very clean room and bathroom. Clean linen, clean beds and clean floor. The room was decorated with beach theme photos and paintings. Lots of amenities. The staff was friendly and worked with us with no reservation to provide a great room at a good price. Breakfast was ok, nothing special but lots to choose from.

« Relaxing New Year Celebration »

We had a suite overlooking the ocean. The room was beautifully decorated and updated since we were there many years ago. It was very clean and the location of the hotel was perfect. The staff was very obliging and helpful. The cost was reasonable and the breakfast was delicious.

    « Great Stay »

The rooms are HUGE, extremely clean and very comfortable. The front desk staff was friendly. The breakfast was nice--the usual--but also had eggs and bacon. The gentleman in the breakfast area was friendly and helpful. Overall a great stay; will stay here when returning to the Outer Banks and recommend this hotel to anyone coming to the area. Also a great location--close to restaurants and shopping.

    « Spacious retreat »

I came here for work but was more than impressed with the abundant amount of space in the room Could have easily put six or 7 in the room - depending on your plans for a weekend. I would bring up my family to this hotel and I have a large immediate family.

« Great value and room. »

We had a wonderful stay and thought it was at a great value. The staff were very friendly and courteous and took care of any needs we had immediately. This was our first time staying at this hotel, but definitely won't be our last. Would highly recommend it for an off-season get-away.

I just got home from 2 nites at the Best Western Ocean Reef Hotel in Kill Devil Hills, NC...I just love this hotel and all it's friendly and accommodating staff...they make staying there like a "home away from all the distractions of home"...I have stayed there ever since 1992 and will never stay anywhere else!!!!!!!!!

« Best Stay and Hotel I have seen in a while!!! »

We made a trip to Kill Devil Hills this weekend and rented a room at the Best Western Ocean Reef Suites. It was wonderful!!!! They have a very friendly staff and the rooms have just been redone. LARGE living area with a trundle bed and balcony. Bedroom is kind of small but enough room. We had the 2 double beds, very comfy!!! The small "kitchen" (has fridge, microwave, and sink) separates the living room from the bedroom. Bath is right in the middle. Breakfast was tasty, they have waffles, eggs with cheese, bacon. oatmeal, cereal, fruit, and a couple other items. I would highly recommend you stay there. We will go back!!!!!

    « Mixed Emotions »

The hotel staff was very friendly and professional. Over the hotel was very clean and well kept. Outside our room was three laundry carts over flowing with sheets. There was plywood as a floor to the elevator. Hair was found in the tub. There was no toilet paper, but since there was room cleaning carts as well outside our room I was able to grab a role. The chairs on the patio were filthy with what looked like cigarette ashes. The breakfast in the morning was good but very cramped. The view was fantastic. Overall our stay was worth what we paid for the room.

Pleasantly surprised at the size and quality of our room. The free breakfast had many choices and was well prepared. Definitely stay here again - and great ocean views!! Located directly across from the Wright Brothers Memorial.

« Wonderful Thanksgiving at Ocean Reef Suites »

We have stayed at this hotel a number of times, but it had been maybe 5 years since our last stay. The rooms have been completely updated and are really decorated beautifully with granite countertops, beautiful pictures, and comfortable, trendy furniture. The only drawback would be the loss of the stove/oven component in the kitchen area. We had stayed at Ocean Reef previously due to their being an all suites hotel and the fact that we had a full kitchen and could cook in our room. The rooms still have a full size refrigerator, but only a microwave for cooking, so you are limited as to what you can prepare. We did stay in a regular room and in the penthouse (sorta - it's not on top of the building, but is on the top floor). The penthouse is very spacious and decorated beautifully, more so than the other rooms, and features a whirlpool tub and a faux fireplace that looks like the real thing. You do have an induction stove to cook and a microwave, but alas no oven. We just ended up steaming our oysters on the stove instead of roasting them. I would say the only drawback to the penthouse is the main room is a little dark (without lights) due to a smaller deck and deck opening which is the only natural source of light for that room. The private rooftop deck with a 360 degree view definitely does make up for the small deck at room level. As far as the overall hotel is concerned, I don't think there is a room with a bad view - even the pool view rooms above the first floor are ocean view as well. The grounds are immaculate and the staff from the front desk to the room cleaners are helpful, friendly, and accommodating. We will definitely stay again.

    « Wonderful for a 2 star property »

Rooms are huge with separate bedrooms and all face the ocean. The hotel is about 30 years old but the rooms have flat screen TVs (2) and good facilities. Features include balcony, air-conditioning, kitchenette. Staff were welcoming. Bed Comfort was ok without being outstanding. Only gripe the coffee maker had a used sachet in it, otherwise it was all clean

    « Great ocean view »

We stayed at this hotel 26 years ago on our honeymoon in Nags Head. We are in the area every year, but this is the first time we have stayed since that time. I was a little skeptical, but it turned out fine. Everything was up-to-date and clean. There was a large patch of paint peeling on the ceiling in the bedroom, but other than that, it was clean and spacious.

    « A Very Clean Hotel »

If you are looking for a hotel that is clean and has comfortable beds, great breakfast that includes a variety of choices such as eggs, waffles, bacon or sausage, bagels, toast, yogurt, french toast, cereal, fresh coffee etc...you have found the right place and it is located right at the beach. The staff are friendly and the rooms are GREAT.

    « Personal »

We enjoyed the convenience to The Wright Brothers Memorial and Museum. Great to be able to walk there. We also loved the ocean front room although behind the dunes. The decor of the hote was well done and comfortable. The suite was an amazing value.

    « Great Location »

This hotel does not look impressive, however it has many positive things. Free parking, free breakfast, free Internet, big rooms, great access to beach and polite personnel. I recommend first floor rooms, because they have direct access to beach or pool.

    5
    « great room »

this was second best room i have ever stayed in, the first was the bahamas and that was my honey moon. I will use this hotel every time i go to the outer banks if i can. staff was very friendly no matter what time of day or night.

« Great location Great view »

We had a 5th floor suite with a living room and an ocean view. The layout was great for our family as it gave the kids their separate sleeping area and my wife and I our privacy, The hotel has direct beach access which was very nice. The breakfast is standard fare for a hot bar breakfast. The only issue I had was with the mattress. It was soft, springy, and noisy.

We stayed in one of the ocean front rooms which provided us with a beautiful view..I aslo loved the layout of the room. Actually there was a sitting room with a couch and also a dining table..Very nice bathroom and a comfy bedroom..Also a nice balcony outside to sit and watch the waves rolling in!! I would recommend this motel very much!! Nice staff and great breakfast too..:) Also great location for all the sight seeing!!

« Quality hotel good location »

We stayed at the Ocean Reef on a whim last spring, to get away and see the ocean plus visit friends/family. We were impressed with the rooms & their amenities so when we decided to go back this fall, we didn't even consider another place. We weren't disappointed this time , either. Just like our last visit, the staff was helpful & the rooms were clean & comfortable.

    « Great View, Bad Experience ?? »

My wife and I arrived almost midnight we let the hotel know we were going to be late since we had to drive 4 1/2 hours from Raleigh. We also let the hotel know that my wife was walking with a cane and was in great pain. We were supposed to have a note we were supposed to have an oceanfront room but somehow that was misunderstood. After telling the hotel clerk once again that my wife was walking with a cane they moved us to an ocean view on the fifth floor which was which was great, however what they didn't tell us was that the elevator on that side of the hotel was not operational. So in the pouring rain at midnight we had to walk the entire length of the hotel, needless to say my wife and I were very unhappy and she was in terrible pain. In the morning I went down to see the clerk to voice my displeasure her and I asked that the manager call me to talk about the experience. I never received a call from the manager I never received a call from anyone no one offered any compensation. All I really wanted was for someone to apologize, but clearly the manager didn't think this was important. Later today I'll be calling the corporate office I feel bad for this manager.

    « Great beach stay »

This is a great hotel located directly on the beach. The rooms are suite type and much bigger and more comfortable than we expected. The breakfast buffet is a nice touch, not perfect but adequate. The staff is very professional and pleasant. Parking is very good. The access to the beach is perfect. Great view of the ocean!

« Excellent choice of hotel »

Best hotel in Nags Head and well worth the stay. Surprised but very pleased about the room. Loved the layout of the room & layout of the hotel to the ocean. Excellent rate. Have stayed at other Nags Head hotels at higher prices that do not compare to the Best Western Ocean Reef. I would definitely stay here again. Good location.

    « Great hotel »

My husband and I really enjoy our stays at the Ocean Reef. It is ocean front, only steps from the beach and the Atlantic Ocean. Nice view of the sea from your suite. Nice spa and heated pool which are both outside. Good location that puts you near good restaurants and shopping. Excellent breakfast included.

    « OBX Weekend »

Needed an inexpensive place to sleep for a busy three day/two night visit to the Outer Banks. Was drawn to the Best Western because of the low price, and was extremely pleased with the overall value. Room was clean and comfortable, location on the beach was great, hotel staff were all friendly and helpful, and even the breakfast exceeded expectations. We are definitely planning to stay here for any future visits.

« Great place to stay on ocean at Outer Banks! »

Room was clean, seemed to by recently renovated. Staff was friendly and attentive. Would ask for pool/ocean view next time on upper floor (4th or 5th)because our view on 2nd floor was mainly pool/dunes. But weather was cold/rainy so view wasn't great this visit on any floor.

    5
    « Enjoyable relaxing stay »

This hotel is a nice, clean ocean front hotel. Rooms are large with separate bedroom and nice amenities. We have stayed here many times over the years and it is well maintained. We will return soon. Lots of great restaurants in the area. The free breakfast was perfect.

    « Multi-floor Motel Style Hotel »

The five story hotel has only outside corridors accessed by stairs and an elevator at each end of the building. In a windy rain storm this could be a problem when accessing the exercise room or breakfast room. The free hot and cold breakfast offered lots of choices. We stayed on the third floor in the center section which offered both a ocean view from the balcony off the living room and a city view of the Wright Brother's Memorial Tower from the window in the bedroom. It appears that all rooms offer the ocean view and I suspect most also offer the city view. The suite was very clean and the beds, sofas, chairs and flat screen TVs were all first class. The hotel location was convenient and the staff were very helpful and customer focused. We would stay there again.

An outstanding family oriented motel that has an awesome bed, great layout and overall comfort level of 10. It is clean as a pin and has a caring staff who likes what they do. We will be staying with them again for sure!!

    « Missed on a few points »

We stayed here one night, October 30th. We were booked for two nights but left early, not because of the room. The elevator to get to our room is outside about 40 yards from the front desk. If it had been raining it would have been very unpleasant. When I booked I asked for a top floor room and we were given one, 502. Great view of the ocean! One of the first things you check is the bathroom. It was clean but the tub surface was in poor condition (see photo). The beds were very comfortable I thought. Two doubles which is what I asked for. Amenities were nice- 3/4 size fridge, me, coffee, small couch and nice dinette set. TV in main room and bedroom, but no HBO, which is standard usually. The sliding door to the patio was very hard to open. Paint on ceiling was chipping by patio door. Tiny cheap patio chairs. For $140 a night I expected nicer. The breakfast id's continental - no eggs like we were told by a housekeeper. Cereal, juice, waffle maker, bagels, etc. Since the hotel did not appear very full (10-20 cars) we should have had a room with no obvious flaws. I'd give the bedroom an A and the rest a C-. Read the reviews on Trip Advisor before booking.

« Grreat place for everyone! »

We decided at the last minute to head for the beach. We were able to stay here for two nights. The room was super clean and had a very nice ocean view. Accommodations included a refrigerator, sink, and microwave in the kitchen area as well as sleeping for 6. Two separate sinks in the bathroom area was great too. I was most impressed by the lift chair next to the pool to serve disabled swimmers. Though we did not need it, I felt happy that all guests could enjoy the pool. Kudos for being inclusive.

    « great hotel »

we stayed here for 4 days and the room was so quiet. our housekeeper made animals out of our towels, she made our trip special. The room was very clean, bed was great ant we could see either the ocean or the street from our living room. The staff was very helpful, the beach was only a few feet away. We will be back next year

« Lovely Fifth Floor Suite »

We got a great deal and enjoyed our stay very much. Staff is above-average and everyone was at the top of their game. Stay on fourth or fifth floor if you can; the view is better. Hats off to the maintenance person who took the time to write a lengthy note for us on how to easily rectify a problem we had with the TV should it occur again (which it didn't). Front office staff was excellent, housekeeping was attentive, and the gentleman breakfast room attendant was a joy to greet each morning. Very convenient location; we will return!!

« Nice place to unwind »

Centrally located in the Outer Banks, just a stone's throw from Wright Brothers National Memorial and Jockey Ridge State Park (where you feel as if you are walking in the Sahara Desert). Suites trump rooms when vacationing and the ocean view is a pleasure. Excellent breakfast, locale, and experience.

    5
« Great place to stay »

It is our 'go to' motel for the Outer Banks area. A great place to stay, they have renovated it as it was once a condo and makes for a wonderful stay, bedroom and living room areas are separated with a kitchen area. Lots of room and great view of the ocean and the Wright's Memorial.

    « Pleasantly Surprised »

This hotel, beautifully located, was a nice surprise on the OBX. For a reasonably priced, oceanfront hotel, it was very well maintained. Clean and spacious for the 5 of us. Breakfast was good. Pool was heated and clean. We really enjoyed our stay and would certainly come back here.

    5
    « Beautiful location! »

Perfect location for a beach trip to the outer banks. The ocean view and sunrise were stunning. Staff was helpful. Large room. Will recommend to friends. We were in the perfect spot to visit the many attractions in the area.

    « awesome »

The room was awesome. We picked this one not knowing anything about the area or accommodations. We were pleasantly surprised. Our room had a great view of the ocean and the pool. You are literally 100 feet from the water. We never had to use the A/C or heat because we just kept the sliding doors open while we were in the room. The room had 2 televisions. One in the living area and one in the bedroom. Everything was clean and updated. The staff was helpful, the breakfast they have was filling enough to hold us over until lunch time. The location was great too. Can't wait to go back to NC....will definitely stay here again.

    « Beach Getaway »

We could not have picked a better hotel and location for our visit to the Outer Banks. We were able to do daily trips from Kill Devil Hills and use the Best Western for home base. We especially enjoyed Miss Connie each morning in the breakfast room. Would book again if going to that area.

    5
« Great place to stay in the Outer Banks »

Great location at a fair price. The breakfast was very good and and being right on the beach was very nice. Close to many points of interest and great places to dine.. I will stay at Best Western Ocean Reef Suites on my next trip to the Outer Banks.

    2
    « House keeping »

Would not recommend this hotel unless they improve on their house keeping, someone needs to teach them the proper way to clean a room, and place clean towels where they belong and not just lay them on the bed. The one room we had, there was paint peeling on the ceiling and the chips falling to the floor, you would think house keeping would take care of this. The hotel staff at check in was very friendly and helpful. Location of hotel was good.

    « Great location. »

Basically just across the street from Kitty hawk. The beach is a short walk from this hotel. The great off season rates . The suite was a great change from your standard hotel room. The two flat screen tvs made our stay just like homer.Their hot breakfast changes eqach day and the breakfast staff are the greatest.

« Great room and view »

The hotel was and room were clean and well kept. Our room, actually a suite was very large and comfortable, We has an excellent view of the ocean on a good sized balcony. The breakfast provided was very good and the folks there made you feel welcome and they insured the area was clean and well stocked. We plan on returning here on our next trip.

    5
    « Another great stay »

This is a great hotel to stay at. Rooms are great with partial or full ocean view. I was surprised that we did not have a stove/oven in the room which I was expecting because of previous trips when we did have a fuller kitchen when we booked. We had partial view of the ocean/pool and the view for the sunrise from the deck was perfect! Breakfast was adequate, coffee wonderful. I am one who likes to have some sort of egg offering just as my own personal preference. There were plenty of other choices however,, and I was happy with being able to make a fresh waffle, have banana and yogurt. The gentlemen and woman who made sure food was stocked and well supplied did an absolutely excellent job and were very friendly. Will definitely stay again at this Best Western.

« Great service and friendly! »

Pulled up to the door at 11:00 PM and the girl at the desk was still wearing a smile and was very friendly. Other hotels we have stayed at when we have gotten there late have been groggy and grumpy. Got the keys and we were in the room in no time. View of the ocean was great from the room! The carpet was damp near the window probably from the storm a few nights before but we left it open during the day and the sun dried it up. Room was clean when we got there and was always cleaned when we returned the following day. Breakfast was great and something different on the hot plate (IE Omelets and sausage, scrambled eggs and bacon or even biscuits and gravy) along with a nice continental side. Overall a great place to stay on a budget and the beach access is great being right there on the beachfront.

« Best Western Ocean Reef Suites »

The employees were helpful. The room was nice. I liked that there's a sink in the bathroom and outside of the bathroom. However the lighting for the sink outside of the bathroom was poor. The continental breakfast was ok. For cereal they had raisin bran, cheerios and fruit loops. I thought it was surprising they didn't have either corn flakes or frosted flakes. The oranges were delicious. I found the bed and pillows to be uncomfortable.

    5
« Customer service was phenomenal and this was a great value »

Summer at the front desk was amazing and went above and beyond the call of duty to help us with a very last minute reservation, as well as help us check-in early since we were coming into town for a wedding, in the middle of a possible hurricane. She was extremely professional and helpful! We will definitely recommend this hotel to others and will be back, as it is one of the very few hotel accommodations that will fit our family of 6. This was definitely a great value for what we received.

    2
« Rain outside and inside »

The sliding door in our room did not fit properly so we had rain pouring in. The carpet was soaked and the wind was blowing through the room. When I called the front desk to ask if they knew about this the girl said yes. I asked if they had any other room and she said no. I asked if there was anything that could be done, she said she would check. A few minutes later someone came with towels and masking tape. I realize that this was not his fault and he was only doing what he was told. This was not a new problem, and they already knew about it before we checked in. Masking tape will not stop rain that is pouring in. No one ever said sorry or gave us any discount. This might be a nice place if the weather is dry. The lighting the bathroom is poor and the pillows are hard.
