« Hotel cancels our group conference »

We had booked a conference at this hotel a year in advance and 5 weeks before the event, the hotel contacted us to cancel our reservation. We found out that this hotel had contracted with the U.of Guelph to make the facility into a residence for the year but they did not pass this info on to us until it was nearly too late to find another location for our 60 guests. This was very inconvenient and at first they were not very helpful in finding another location or in helping to pay for the cost differences that we incurred. After many phone calls they finally agreed to pay the difference that it cost us. I would not recommend this hotel for future bookings.

    « very poor bestwestern »

stayed at this hotel mid august first impressions garbage container full to over flowing near main entrance and garbage here and there ..after check in noticed hair on sheet and dirty sheets ,they were changed when we complained ..foul smell in room asked for just towels next day and one was badly frayed around the edge ,,breakfast consisted of cold eggs and burned sausages staff not overly friendly ...we were in what seemed to be ground floor older section not sure if all rooms are the same ...hard to understand how in the world this hotel ever made the distinction of a best western plus property .Will never stay here again ,,Guelph is a pretty clean little town with so many other options available to the traveler to stay hotel right across the road next time

« Black spot on Best Western's reputation »

I am a Best Western Reward member. I have stayed at several Best Western in Europe, USA and Canada. Allways good and properly. But not in Guelph. Shame you. I have 4 month before our arrival booked a room for tree days. On our arrival we were told, that they had found a better customer, who has rented all rooms. Also the rooms, as Best Western had made individuel bookings about. That's bad. Shame you. That's a black spot on Best Western's reputation. We were send to a poor motel in the neighborhood.

« Notice: Hotel is closed »

We had a reservation here when we dropped off our daughter to school labour day weekend. When we showed up to check in the hotel had been turned into a residence. They had moved our reservation to the Days Inn around the corner but we had not been notified.

« Decent hotel in Guelph »

One night stay, hotel is an older property but has been renovated. Entrance to the lobby is in the rear of the building. Desk clerk very friendly, reservation accurate and checkin was speedy. Outside pool looked inviting but we didn't have time for a swim. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable, the bathroom small but adequate. Many restaurants nearby to choose from. In the wing where we stayed, getting to our first-floor room from the lobby meant negotiating a short flight of stairs and going through several heavy fire doors, a challenge when pulling a suitcase. Quiet and safe location though, and our stay was just fine.

    « Very disappointed! »

Was staying in Guelph for a wedding. Room wasn't ready when we got there, service slow, not very clean and the next day never did get the room cleaned as they came so late and we were getting ready to go out. No hot water in shower in the evening. Not a pleasant experience at all!

    « Accessibility Concerns »

The hotel is very clean, staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are comfortable. Not all parts of the hotel are accessible. This may pose a problem for someone with a disability or if you have to carry large amounts of baggage for a larger distance.

« Tired rooms, great staff. »

A clean and average hotel. Looking its years, the breakfast is worth skipping. However for these small short comings the staff has always gone above and beyond. They are friendly, cheerful, and always willing to help. Any problem with a room, or a date, they have always been great. Rates are reasonable and the rooms have always been clean.

    « Enjoyed my Stay »

I have stayed here numerous times and have never been disappointed. For the money, this is a great hotel. It is close to shopping and restaurants, across the street from the university, not far from the 401 highway, beautiful décor rooms and offers a great complimentary breakfast.

    « Best Western »

Hotel was clean, friendly staff and quiet. Gave me a great rate for the night because I didn't check in untill almost 1am. Front staff then moved me to a different room because air conditioner didn't work - full bar breakfast in morning with almost everything you can imagine to get your day going. Would stay again.

« We took the bad with the good »

The front reception is attentive. They explained breakfast, the pool and where to find the room. The pool was clean and well maintained. Towels are provided in the pool area just to the left of the door as you enter the area. We were given room 120. As we entered the room there was a strong musty odor. Since it was so hot outside, we just thought that once the air was turned on that it would be aired out. The next we had a full day and as we returned to the room, the hallway had a very strong musty odour. When we entered our room the smell was no better. Since we were tired and it was late in the evening, we did not want to complain so we stayed put. We both woke up with terrible headaches. After breakfast we couldn't get back into our room and the front desk reported that the machine they used to provide the room keys were broken. I was provided a card to get back into the room but I think it opened every room in the entire Hotel. We packed up and I told the front desk clerk my concern about the room. She said that they would air out the room. I would not suggest anyone stay in that particular wing. If you have mold sensitivities or asthma you will not survive. It was just a place for us to sleep but I will not use that Hotel again.

« Don't even think about this hotel!!! »

This was the fastest check-in and check-out that I have ever experienced in my history of Best Western stays. My wife and I arrived at this location on Friday July 15/16 for a romantic start of our holidays. The gentleman at the front desk was very prompt and courteous at checking us in but everything went downhill from there. At the time of our booking I assured that the hotel pool was up and running fine and that it had stairs into the pool for my wife to use as she is disabled cannot use a ladder. We get down to the pool area to find that it was an outdoor pool with no steps or heat and garbage floating in the water. Went back to complain and he did send someone out to clean the pool and check on the heat. My wife decided to just go back to our room well I went to see what arrangement could be made about a discount for the pool mix-up or just checking out altogether. When I got back to the room to tell her that he had made arrangements with another hotel chain in the area she had discovered bugs (at least 30 of them) climbing up the wall beside the bed. We were out of the room in 5 minutes flat. Never will we stay at this dump again.

« Best Western Guelph - Stone Road »

Located close to University of Guelph. Only a two story hotel but rooms on lower floor have access to patio door so easy unload of car to room. Wifi strength is good. A bit dated but rooms are comfortable and bed is extremely conformable with lots of pillows.

    « Park-like Setting in the City »

We were pleasantly surprised by the natural atmosphere we experienced when we arrived. The property has a beautiful park-like setting, with large trees right outside the rooms. Our room was on the ground floor, on the parking lot side of the building, which offered a small patio (unfortunately with no chairs), and enabled us to park right outside the room. Even though the hotel is located at one of the busier intersections in the City, the traffic noise was minimal, and our view toward the trees was lovely, compared to most hotels that are situated in the middle of an asphalt parking lot, with minimal landscaping. The staff was friendly, and the room was spacious. The decor was average, but the King-sized bed was comfortable. The breakfast food was decent, but they could use some additional seating, as it was quite busy when we stopped in at 8am. We ended up taking our food back to our room. Overall, it was a restful stay, and we will definitely go back the next time we are in Guelph. The discount to CAA members was a welcomed incentive as well.

« Pool not working, algie covered floor of pool, lounge not open »

Room was clean. Breakfast area not very clean, garbage containers were overflowing. We travel a lot but would never stay in this hotel again. Pool area was very filth and the pool had algie covering the base of the pool.

« Pretty spot but some things overlooked »

The driveway is off Stone Rd, not Gordon St. Save yourself some driving around blocks. The trees and plantings are beautiful and the hotel lobby is very soothing. I had a room in the Conference Centre section which is a little strange. Go in the conference centre, through a small doorway and along a hall to a group of rooms. No security as far as who can come in that way. The room was large and well-maintained. The bathtub was wonderful and the water very hot. Air conditioning was relatively quiet. The room had a fridge, coffee maker and iron. Bed was fairly comfortable and bedding was very clean. Check in was slow. Though there were two people behind the desk, only one was checking people in and the line got quite long. A bit frustrating to see someone else shuffling paper (I'm sure she was doing something useful) when lots of people were waiting to get into their rooms. The parking lot was very dark - no lights at all. The plantings were lovely but between the door of the Conference Centre and the door to the rest of the hotel was the garbage area with garbage spilling out and a row of not-very-attractive recycling bins. Perhaps they could be better hidden somewhere else? Not terribly inviting. Good location near the university.

« great to revisit this hotel »

we have stayed here over the past 4 years as out daughter was attending University. this hotel is great, conveniently located and the staff are always helpful and friendly. Probably our last visit as she graduated last week! Free breakfast is good as well as free wifi

    « Not memorable »

Although the hotel has been renovated, there are still some rough edges that need attention. As an example, the stream of water from my shower was barely flowing through the shower head, with most of the water rushing out of the faucet to the tub. I had to really crank it up to get enough water to wash my hair; all the while Niagara Falls rushed through the faucet below--it was a terrible waste of water. To the hotel's credit, the front desk alerted maintenance immediately and by the evening, the repair had been done, but there was quite a mess in the tub and I had to clean it before using it the next day. The mattress of the queen bed was well worn and sagging in the middle, and the pillows were lumpy and hard. My biggest complaint would have to be the breakfast. I stayed there four nights, and after eating three breakfast with chewy sausages and scrambled eggs (from egg mixture), I opted to eat out on the final morning. There should be more diversity in what they offer--like hard or soft-boiled eggs, and bacon from time to time. I have stayed in other Best Western hotels and was disappointed with my stay in Guelph. I would probably avoid it the next time I am in Guelph.

    « Mini vacation »

The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was clean and I loved the soaker tub. The hotel was pretty close to the downtown area. Being walkers we did the trip down the hill and back up to the hotel. Gordon Street was very clean and well kept lawns of the University . There was a local bus if you wanted to take it to the downtown. The breakfast had a good assortment of food to eat.

« Spacious room was a pleasant surprise »

We were on the 3rd floor with a cathedral ceiling in the room. Large space, two queen beds, desk, TV, fridge, very comfortable. Had assistance with the luggage as the elevator goes to teh second floor and there are a few stairs up to the 3rd level. Room service was excellent. Breakfast is included in the price and there were eggs and sausages, cereal, breads, muffins and individual fruit cups, plus more. Coffee was good but choice of milk or creamer. The bathtub had a seat and handrail but felt a bit cramped as I am not a small person. Otherwise, the room and everything was great.

« Comfortable, friendly, helpful staff »

Good solid hotel. I was here for a conference - so long days and needed quiet at night to sleep. Fortunately, the hotel staff thought of this before I did and put me in the other end of the hotel from all the folks from the ball tourney that was going on that week, as well as the wedding that weekend. So that was most appreciated. Beds are comfortable, the wi-fi works flawlessly, and a basic hot breakfast is included with the room. The only relatively minor issue I had was the chambermaid staff would only pull up the covers and straighten the bed rather than making it over from scratch (even if using the same sheets and blankets), which I prefer. Other than that, it's right across from the University of Guelph (check out the impressive UGuelph Gryphon statue at the corner). That's where my conference was, so it was very convenient. Lastly I spotted something called the Movati Gym just down the street, so I went there for a workout - an excellent facility! I had to pay the drop-in fee - which I expected - but I learned the Delta hotel has an arrangement with them so their guests get in for free. I would encourage the Best Western to do the same, as this was a big draw for me.

    « Everything was perfect! »

We arrived late at night, slept, showered, ate breakfast and left. I can't think of a single thing that was wrong with this hotel. Even the breakfast was excellent! What a variety of breakfast foods!!

    « Convenient location »

Warm hotel employee, hotel is located just cross street from University of Guelph. Very close to the stone road shopping centre and downtown area. Continental breakfast is provided, stayed this hotel 3 times and breakfast menu never be changed. Good value for short stay.

« Spacious room, solid overall »

My room was very generous: high ceilings, ample work area and two full queen beds. It was also quiet. The room was clean, as was the bathroom. I was greeted very cheerfully and was given prompt service when I needed it. I was disappointed that the pool was not yet open, but I guess May is still early. The breakfast - included - is adequate. I disliked that all of the dishes and utensils are disposable. It must generate an awful lot of waste. I was at a conference at the university, so the location was excellent for that, but it is not close to the train station.

    « Mixed feelings »

The excellent service began when the front desk person phoned to say my driver's licence had been found. The housekeeping staff made sure we had plenty of tea and clean sheets and towels. We liked the greeting whenever we came in at the main entrance. The queen size bed seemed to be a double, and had a dip along the centre line, so we kept bumping into each other. Guests were noisy banging doors and talking loudly one night. Breakfast was OK, but the cooked selection was limited to four items. It ran low on a public holiday, until more came finally.

    « Great deal »

Although construction near this hotel made our journey a little more complicated, the detour we had to take was worth it. The front desk staff were helpful and accommodating and the room was excellent. We had to leave very early so cannot comment on breakfast. We would recommend this hotel. The rates are very reasonable, especially considering its excellent location.

    « Beautiful area »

Enjoyed our stay at Best Western. Clean, comfortable and very quiet. Rooms are big. Good breakfast. Will be coming to visit Guelph in a few years and will again stay at the Best Western Plus. The area is beautiful and the trees and greenery are lovely.

« Wonderfully updated, welcoming, everything you need in a comfortable stay. »

Stayed in connecting rooms in the hotel. WI-FI worked flawlessly. The breakfast was exactly what you would expect, a mix of hot and continental. Would have liked some yogurt... but that was the only negative to say. Lots of free parking at the hotel. Would definitely stay again.

« Clean and Spacious Accomodations! »

I stayed here twice in one month as my daughter had her volleyball tournaments in Waterloo and our team was able to secure a special group rate. It was myself, my mother, and my two daughters occupying a ground floor room (near the lobby). When I first arrived, I wasn't sure where to park...I accidentally went into the entrance meant for "conferences". You have to keep driving past the conference entrance and you'll see another entrance which is actually the main entrance to the front desk where you check into the hotel. The girl at the desk was very friendly and check-in was very quick. She gave me 2 key cards which was handy as there were times when we had to separate and each of us were able to have a card to get back into our room. The actual hotel room was surprisingly spacious and there were 2 queen beds, a tv stand with drawers and a flat screen tv, plenty of lamps for lighting, a small vanity area with a mirror and a good sized closet near to the entrance, and even a small sitting area near the windows with a chair and side table. The view from the room is nothing are either facing the parking lot, or the main road. The bathroom was very clean (as was the entire room) and there were bath towels, wash clothes, and hand towels available. They also had 1 small shampoo and conditioner tube and 2 soaps. There was also a small sign that advised that they had "other" complimentary items available upon request at the front desk...this included paper cups, plastic utensils, and disposable toothbrushes, etc. I thought that was very considerate of them to offer this service. The beds were firm and the sheets were clean. There is an alarm clock. We left for our tournament at 6:45 am and the room was cleaned by the time we arrived back at 2 pm. The only issue we had was they only gave us 3 towels (even though there were 4 of us in the room) so we just walked to the front desk to get an extra one, no biggie. They also offer a complimentary hot breakfast each morning which was much appreciated--scrambled eggs, sausages, hash browns or potatoes, cereal, toast (white/brown), danishes (sp?), coffee, and tea, juice (cranberry, orange, apple). The food was perfectly fine for being included in our stay, so no complaints there. Some places only offer bread, cereal, and muffins:/ There is also a small shopping mall down the street, and plenty of your cliché restaurant chains are close-by (Montana's, Eastside Mario's, McDonalds, Burger Priest, etc). Oh, and there is plenty of parking on site and several exits depending on which room you are staying in. We tried to park as close as possible to our closest exit. If I am ever back in Guelph, I would stay here again.

My out of town go to hotel is Best Western and this one met the standards and amenities that I have come to count on. The hotel and room were clean, comfortable and service was friendly and efficient. Check in and out was quick and easy.

« Excellent Stay at Modest Price »

Clean and comfortable with very helpful hotel staff. Across from University of Guelph which has lovely grounds for walks. About a 25 min walk to Downton. We have stayed there before and would stay again.

    « It's gone downhill. »

I've been staying here once a year for the last thirteen years because it is so close to the University. However, it seems to have gone downhill in the last year or so. I stay here instead of the Comfort Inn because the Best Western provides room service, laundry service, breakfast and nicer rooms. I stayed for four nights and for two of those nights room service was unavailable. The nights it was available, you had to order between 6PM and 9PM. For breakfast, they provide paper plates and plastic forks and knives. It's a bit depressing. Moreover, the breakfast food is mediocre. I did get same-day dry cleaning, though. The room was fine, but a little tired. They provide cable TV, but the picture is grainy. Wifi works very well. I think next time I will pay $30 extra a night and stay at the Delta across the street.

« Very Comfortable for a Reasonable Price »

Two years after our last mediocre visit, our second stay was much better. Certainly quieter. Beds were very comfortable (might have preferred a longer duvet), the room was spacious, and we had all the amenities that we needed. Wi-Fi worked very well. The staff was most pleasant for check-in, check-out and in the breakfast room. The breakfast had hot and cold items, very adequate for a most needs. We had a little issue with our billing that was quickly resolved by Jaqlin. The hotel could use an update in the bathroom, but the place was clean, the water was hot, and we had plenty of towels, so overall better than average. With construction on Gordon Street, it may be a little tricky to navigate; best to come in on Stone Road, as that is where the access driveway to the parking lot is anyway. We loved our room with lots of light - two windows - looking out toward Gordon Street, but still very quiet. We were hoping that there was an indoor pool, or a hot tub, but the pool is outdoors, and not yet open for business.

    « Average stay »

I booked this hotel thru Air Miles to attend an event at the university of Guelph across the street. It was an average stay at an average hotel, unfortunately I wasn't wowed by anything at the hotel. Initially, when I arrived to check in there was a lineup and a more demanding customer in front of me so the clerk indicated he would be a moment, so I left to run some errands and returned later. When I returned he was friendly and courteous. I stayed in room 115 facing the parking lot, so I avoided the street noise. My room was fine, but it had just hint of a musty smell. I did find the hall a bit noisy. All the room doors in the corridor must have been like mine and would not close gently or needed to be pulled hard to close so the doors slammed loudly whenever someone came or went from their room. The breakfast buffet was included with the room and it was good. I would stay at this hotel again, but would stay in another section where the hall didn't echo as much.

« Never go to this hotel »

Although we don't review often we travel a lot in Canada and abroad, we have to say that this one night was the worst experience we've ever had in a hotel or any other accommodation in terms of noise. Although the staff is nice and helpful, the building is old, shabby and not quite clean. It leaks air and noise. At around 11PM last night we were ready to just pack it up and go. One hears every move from the neighbours, running water and the worst the noisy heating unit. We cracked up the temperature in hope that it will hold for a while. Then we reduced the thermostat by 10 degrees and went to bed. Alas about 15 min later the heating system start making its horrific noise. One hears also the neighbours heating units, so it was quite an orchestra all night. The breakfast didn't give us a better experience. In addition to the plastic cups in the room, the breakfast plates, cups and utensils were plastic too. The food itself wasn't better (plastic too?). Minimal selection ? scrambled eggs that tasted anything but eggs, potatoes and sausages soaked in fat for way too long. We saw a guy bringing in his Tim's coffee and food and though it was a much better idea. Mind you the place is not cheap, running at about $125 for the night. Can`t wait to check out.

    « Mediocre »

Daughter loves this hotel for the big space to do a cartwheel on the second floor. In room fridge was broken, wake up call never came. Carpets were not clean. Breakfast was okay but no plates were out. Had to call through to the kitchen staff to replenish plates and cutlery and food. More options for protein would be good-not everyone likes sausages. Have stayed in similar but better run hotels. Front desk staff was pleasant, kitchen staff not as much.

    « Excellent Hotel »

The hotel always greets you with a smile. The breakfast in the morning has a lot of different options. The location is very convenient for the University events and close to the mall and restaurants. The pool is outdoor and only open during the summer months.

    « just visiting family. »

Room was OK bathroom small old beds . Not comfortable. Staff was excellent Breakfast was good.Left me feeling I should rethink using best Western traditionally. I was also misled the pool was not indoors so unusable in winter.

« Great location comfortable quiet room »

We booked 3 rooms for a family gathering. Nice big rooms. Comfortable beds. HVAC in one room needed the fan replaced. The HVAC in our room was quiet. Lots of hot water. Quiet. Plenty of variety for breakfast. Across the road from the University. Short drive downtown.

« Great rate for group to attend local funeral »

Reserved some dozen rooms at $90 each to attend funeral. Were on third floor. Beautiful architecture/high ceiling made room seem extra large -- was already very spacious. Issue with sink and tub not draining took a couple of calls before they were resolved. Staff let us use breakfast nook in evening for family events - at no extra charge. Was very nice of them. Comfortable beds. Room was dry so I put wet towel on heater. Breakfast buffet was pretty decent.

    « Never again! »

ROOM 202 - Bad room that could not be darkened at night. Flashing light at door inside room would not stop all night. Health dept. issues with the breakfast area. When a customer is walking around the area barefoot in his shorts and taking sausages one at a time with his used fork from the communal sausage pan and eating them one at a time, this is an issue that needs to be dealt with. When we went to check - out and I asked if she could email my bill to me, she said that she did not have my email. I had given it to the Saturday desk person TWICE!. They Can not even get email correct after 2 times

« Great room, once you make it past the desk »

I booked a King room for Valentine's day on hotwire, upon checking in we were given a difficult time regarding the security deposit, cash deposits are unacceptable and we traveled without credit. We offered visa debit and were refused. When we asked to speak with a manager we were told we were speaking with the sales manager. I took a cab to the nearest convenience store to get a prepaid visa, and while there I called Best Western customer service to ensure the card would work and the operator in Phoenix, Arizona was no help at all. In the end, I had a friend drive to the hotel to use her credit card only to find out our room wasn't ready and we could take a room with 2 queen beds, instead. The room itself was very clean and spacious, there appeared to be only one housekeeper working the entire floor so laundry bags lined the hallways. Breakfast was edible- a hot buffet. Location was great. Overall, from the front desk, to the customer care line- Best Western needs an overhaul in customer service. Their only saving grace is the staff working behind the scenes to keep the rooms presentable and the food edible.

    « Friendly Staff »

This was our first stay at this hotel but it will not be the last. Friendly staff, clean room and a lovely breakfast. What more can you ask for? Special kudos to Glen and Jacklyn for making our stay an enjoyable one.

« Great value and very clean »

We were very pleased with our one-night stay at this hotel. The value was outstanding to receive hotel, parking and breakfast. Room was very clean and the staff was accommodating. We would certainly stay here again

« excellent service, great location for the University »

The staff were very very helpful and very accommodating to my late arrival. I was meeting my daughter to visit her for the day and ended up coming in very late. They let my daughter check in early even though I was delayed. I really appreciated them going above and beyond for us.

« Great Stay in Guelph »

Excellent friendly staff made our 4 night stay in Guelph a wonderful experience. Would recommend this hotel to anyone, business or pleasure. Great location to other amenities, restaurants and shopping. Thank you and see you next year.

    « Clean, Comfortable »

The room was clean, bed was comfortable and the staff was good. Great place to stay and not too expensive. The breakfast was a pretty good bonus too. I would recommend this hotel. It is right beside the university and many restaurants.

    « Great Value »

We booked through Hotwire and were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was very clean and the room was nice and spacious. The only thing we didn't like was the bed, but that is likely personal preference. The breakfast was also a bit lacklustre and the food tasted a bit stale. All in all a good hotel for the cost.

« Entrance is off of Stone Rd., not Gordon St. »

Our room was great in terms of size, and we liked that it had a patio door to outside. The placement of the patio door allowed us to watch as new arrivals to the hotel tried to access the hotel off of Gordon St (which isn't possible.) We'd done the same when we arrive. A few other annoyances included - bathroom sink that did not drain well and although we checked in at 4:00 pm, and were given a room key, our room was not yet cleaned. So we had trekked our luggage up to the room piled it in a corner and then had to go kill time for about 1/2 an hour until the room was ready. Breakfast was fine, typical hotel fare, and the room for breakfast was very spacious. Only stayed one night, it was fine. Giving it a 4 because of the room size, patio doors and breakfast space. Points deducted for slow sink and room not ready.

    « just stopping by »

We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the room. It was very quiet even though there was a wedding going on in the hotel. We just had some quick business to do in the morning in Guelph and we found the hotel to be located in a great place, close to lots of shops and eating options.

« would not recommened this place. »

It is a very awkward building. The breakfast is served upstairs on the 2nd floor, you have to wind your way down corridors and deal with a lot of stairs. The restaurant wasn't open for business the night of my arrival because they were busy preparing for a function. However, that was not mentioned to me upon my checking in that afternoon, so I waited around only to discover there was no service, although at the desk the young man suggested I use room service.

    « Convenient location »

We had a large, clean room with a comfortable bed and pillows. The bathroom was quite small though. This location is convenient to both shopping and the university. We thought the hotel entrance was awkward.

    « Beautiful place but..... »

This is a beautiful place, especially the room I got (# 203), but there where a lot of problems, since the first moment we arrived. No remote control for the TV. The Lady at the front desk didn't know what to do to solve the problem (my wife suggested to her to go to another room to get one.) One lamp didn't work. The room was dirty...stains of coffee and dust on every table, same thing in the kitchen. The phone was not working, The shower curtains smelled terrible, the bathtub was totally clogged (the dirty water raise up to almost my knees and now my wife has a pruritus in her legs, that doesn't go away...) Problems with the shower (low flow, water temperature went from hot to cold intermittently) The towels were so rough as is them weren't properly rinse. The sofa has very "bad appearance" white stains. On top on all.... there were an intermittent sound from the kitchen I don't not if was from the fridge or from the water pipes, but it keep us awake most of the 5 nights of our stay. The Internet service was very good

    « Was Alright »

Found the bed was really hard my other half and I woke up with sore backs. We set the heat when we first checked in and when we same back it was still on many hours later and it stayed on the entire time we were there, kept me up most of the night (hate being a light sleeper) but found it was kinda loud. The other half watched TV for a bit before bed and the remote was broken and it was an HD TV with no HD channels, kinda dumb... not that we were there to watch TV much. Also found the washroom VERY small. Will say the free continental breakfast was very good.

    « Amazing spacious suite! »

This was our 1st time staying at Best Western Plus Royal Brock Hotel ? Stayed 2 weekend nights, Nov 13-14/15. Very friendly & helpful staff at the front desk. We had booked a king room but, at check-in, we were comp upgraded to a KING bed SUITE (#201) due to being a Best Western Rewards Diamond member. Our open concept suite was super spacious, cathedral ceilings & lots of windows, kitchen area with sink & counter, fridge, micro, coffeemaker as well as a table & 4 chairs in dining area and living area was complete with very comfortable sofa(bed) , 3 coffee tables & 2 easy chairs, large flat screen TV. Sleep area had end tables, dresser & a very large work desk with comfortable ergonomic chair as well as another easy chair. Very large washroom with 2 sinks, bath & shower. Suite was immaculately clean ? we enjoyed a very restful sleep. Breakfast room is large, lots of seating & windows - complimentary hot breakfast was fresh, hot & well-prepared, very good pancakes & eggs, sausage was especially tasty! Free parking & free wifi. Nice outdoor pool area closed for the season. Very convenient location: 1 km from Stone Road Mall, several restaurants & grocery store within walking distance & Guelph University nearby. Note: even though hotel address is 176 Gordon Street, you must access hotel entrance/reception & parking lot via Stone Road/east intersection. We did not know this & had to go around the block to find hotel entrance, just a minor initial inconvenience. Also, there is currently road construction on Stone Road near hotel entrance, but it does not prevent you from exiting parking lot in either direction and we only found it to be a minor inconvenience. Would definitely stay here again!

« Good value, but bathrooms need upgrading »

I have stayed here many times or the years, mainly because it is so close to the University where I am usually visiting: Great location and better value than the Delta across the street, but the owners really need to upgrade the bathrooms. The rooms have been upgraded with better mattresses and linens, but the bathrooms are stuck in the '70s. In my bathroom, the drain in the sink did not drain properly, the bath drain was slow, the caulking is dirty and scruffy, the tile floor needs a thorough scrubbing, the shower curtain in the bath/shower is on a straight rod that results in not being able to take a shower without constant contact with the curtain, and you can always hear when water is running in the adjacent room. Won't be back until bathrooms are upgraded. Helpful staff. Moderately good breakfast included.

    « Ok stay »

Stayed here to attend the Guelph University Fall Preview day. Location was excellent. Road construction at entrance which was not great but not hotels fault. First impression of hotel not the best but got an early check in and rooms were fine, roomy and clean. Beds very comfortable. I was promised a reduced rate at check in as there were only 2 of us rather than 4 stated at reservation. Upon checkout this was not honoured. She said the system would not change it. Disappointing. Breakfast was ok. Hot items of sausage, scrambled eggs and very good pancakes. Overall our stay was good.

« beware of road construction by entrance »

Convenient location to University of Guelph and shopping. There is currently road construction at the hotel entrance, it's almost impossible to make a left turn from the parking lot. Otherwise, large room with comfortable beds. Nice selection for breakfast.

« great place to stay and very clean »

stayed here for one night last month and it was great the rooms were actually decent sized very clean and quiet .. lots of stuff to do across the road like a no frills a wing place which was also great. i enjoyed the free breakfast lots of choices and yummy would deffently stay here again

    « Hotel »

Very nice hotel, enjoyed it compared to the price. The hotel staff was inconsistent as we were not treated with respect. The email I received stated my checkout time was at noon but the manager continued to call for checkout at 11 am.

« Really good budget option »

For the price this hotel was great! The room was huge! The bathroom was clean and the bed was comfortable what more can you ask for! The people on reception were really friendly and helpful. Only thing I would say is when I was coming in from dinner there were evidently quite a few younger groups staying and they were out side drinking and smoking (rooms on ground floor have patio doors). Although that said I didn't hear a thing all night Great stay for the price

« last overnight stay before coming home »

The last night from our round trip in Michigan we booked an overnight stay at Best Western Royal Brock in Guelph. At the same time we took a visit to our son, who lives in Guelph. We know Best Western already from earlier stays and every time we had a good value for the price we pay. Friendly staff, clean rooms and a good breakfast are important for us as well as for most guests. Will stay there again during our next visit to Guelph

« Relaxing fall destination with a great service »

The hotel is located in a quiet area of the town with easy access to the mall, grocery store and the University of Guelph campus. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful; the free breakfast menu offers many choices of great tasting meals. One can tell that the quality of the eggs, milk and bread has something to do with the neighboring farms. If you want a great room at a affordable price, opt for 121 and / or adjacent rooms. You can park your set of wheels in front of your large window, and exit and enter the hotel from a near side door.

    « Excellent »

Excellent in all respects. A delight to end a busy day and have a good nights sleep. Quiet Setting with a natural forest across the parking lot. Wonderful modern architecture and lots of natural light.

    « Nice Hotel »

Hotel checked all the boxes, provided a clean and safe room, with all the amenities required when traveling. Would recommend for business or conference, visited during the week, hotel was quiet with other conference attendees, we all met in lounge to eat in the evenings, very small limited menu but still comfortable and suited our needs.

    « Great Stay »

Great location with all amenities in walking distance, extremely beneficial as I traveled for a conference without a rental. Room was clean and well sized, WiFi was efficient, breakfast complimentary and of a higher caliber then I have come to expect from this brand of hotel. Great personnel, friendly and cheerful.

    « Modern rooms, 1st floor a little musty »

I have stayed a few times for work. The hotel has friendly staff, a nice breakfast, and the rooms are modern and fairly clean (odd stray hair here and there), but there appears to be some water damage in the first floor rooms I have stayed in. The rooms smell a bit moldy, and set off my mold allergies. Air fresheners present in hallway to try and cover up the smell. Otherwise, Happy with the stay, but might try for a second floor room in the future.

« Good Value, Nice Rooms »

We have stayed here a number of times and have found it consistently good value. The rooms are spacious, clean, updated and the breakfast is decent. The staff have always been pleasant and helpful. It is located very close to the University of Guelph which is perfect for us.

« Great hotel for a great price »

We end up at this hotel via Hotwire all the time and it's a great stay. The hotel and rooms are clean, especially in the newer part of the hotel. The staff is always friendly and helpful. It's located by the Stone Road Mall and there are a number of restaurants nearby and is convenient to get to/from. The included breakfast is okay, no waffles but good hotel buffet food.
