    « Filthy place »

My friend and I stayed on the 19 and 20 November 2016 . Checked in to the room and left straight away as the cleaner was in there . We came back about 6 pm. We went to have a shower and the shower was putrid , hair all over the floor . I went down to the desk and asked to be put in another room but was told they were fully booked . So we had to put up with it . The next morning I went down stairs and took 3 tissues off hair and dirt to show the receptionist . She just grabbed them and through them in the bin . She was not interested . I showed her photos of the shower and told me to see the owner . So on check out u went down to speak to the owner only to be told he don't understand English , so they didn't care one bit . Never again will I stay there . I have stayed there for 5 years in a row and never had a complaint before . These new people do not deserve the name best western on the motel . I asked the receptionist can I put in a complaint and she said she would do it for me. I won't be holding my breath

    « a little tired »

we were at this hotel for three nights its what I would call a little tired a comfortable hotel that needs a bit of work the gap under the door and the draught was unreal it took them 2 days to finally fit a draught excluder a lot of noise from the road and nearby train but very handy for the tram into the city

    « Clean and Comfortable »

Stayed here when visiting the in laws. It was clean and comfortable basic motel style which is all we needed. Very well priced and very friendly receptionist (I think her name was Jennifer). Very Easy access (walking distance) to the city from train station and team stops. Will definitely be staying here again. Thanks guys!

« Closed at arrival with nobody available to check in »

Initially I selected this hostel as it was on the way from the airport to the city. The brand has good reputation, and is in perfect location for travellers arriving late at night I had booking for a friday and it happen that I arrived one day earlier, around 11pm. Hoping to arrange an extra night in the hotel I arrived with wife, baby and suitcases but the place was closed. There was a phone number outside for enquiries after hours and I insisted a number of times with no success, knocked the door loudly, waited for long time. In such a cold and windy night, and having a small kid and tired of the flight I had no choice but to look for a taxi and look for another hotel in the CBD. They are supposed to be available for attending after hours. I lost my money in the booking and I will never come to this place again

    « Worst meal ever »

Met business friends for dinner. Would have to be the worst meal that I have ever had at a motel restaurant. Would not recommend. Had the Currie special 3 pieces of meat, that were cold. Sauce ok,got a replacement meal, not much better. Other meals not much better. Very ordinary.

« Nice place to stay »

Stayed for 2 nights in a family room which was quite comfortable. Room quite nice and clean about 3 star. Good location with tram to city outside door. Minutes to airport and short walk to station. Would recommend

« You get what you pay for »

Best Western in Mount Alexander Road Essendon can be recommended. It's not the Ritz, but it is clean and tidy with appropriate amenities. Car parking is available,it's about 20 minuted by car to the city. The Essendon Train Station is about 10 minutes walk from the motel. You can't miss the Best Western Alexander. It's best to make a booking, it's a popular spot, especially during evetrns such as the Melbourne Cup..

    « Alexander Motor Inn »

Loved that they had put on the heater to warm our room on arrival, as we didn't get there till 10pm. Simple room. The bed was a bit soft for our liking but comfy and warm. The room and the bathroom were very clean. We ordered a cooked breakfast which was Ok. We were up the back of the Motel so the road noise didn't annoy us at all. For travellers to the city this would be a great spot as it's easy to get to. We were travelling onto the Calder Hwy so just wanted somewhere to break up our journey. Overall our stay was comfortable and we would stay there again.

    « Short Stay Excellence »

A great place to stay for a short stay. Easy access to Melbourne CBD. easy walking distance to nearby quality restaurants and transport hubs. Room a little small but very clean and comfortable. Good internet access and the staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant is good and the cuisine excellent.

« Not worth for the money »

The staff services are good but this hotel really required a full renovation. The room looks old, noise insulation is very bad, the continental breakfast is all from the foods you can buy from the grocer stores. Not even one dish is cooked food. WIFI was so bad until I can't connect and use at all. Not going back!

« Great value clean and simple »

An older style Motel with rooms which are quite small but well laid out and clean. Restaurant attached to venue which serves a good meal. This is a simple good value clean venue with good service. Great access to freeway for Airport or city and on a tram route too.

    « Basic, no frills »

Room served its purpose overnight but wasn't large. Too cramped as a family room for anything more than the single night imho. Service was pleasant and friendly. It was Reasonable value and the location offered an easy find coming into Melb and an easy escape going out.

« Classic old style hospitality! »

After a hair raising drive in to Melbourne, we were greeted warmly at reception by Tara. We checked in and got to our room, an added bonus was free parking outside our room. Although it needs a bit of a facelift it was a comfortable room and suited our needs, we also were provided with free wifi. There was a toaster but no cutlery (1 teaspoon) or plates, but tea and coffee were plentiful, but I'm sure if we asked the problem would have been rectified promptly. The room was serviced each day and was always neat and clean when we returned. Although you could hear the traffic outside it did seem to fade as you got used to it, but it is Melbourne and there never seemed to be a 'quiet' time for traffic. There was a tram stop just up from the motel that could take you into the city and the DFO's were just at the end of the road about 5 minutes away by car. Also quite a few eateries around as well as the restaurant at the motel, which we unfortunately didn't get to enjoy, due to prior arrangements. We set of early on the morning of our checkout and were greeted again warmly by another staff member, Maria. We would gladly return, although not fancy, it was warm and friendly and reminded me of my childhood trips and places we would stay at.

« Older style motel which has been updated »

Stayed Thursday 19th & Friday 20th May in Room 32. We booked this hotel as it was convenient for us and was part of the Best Western Group. We knew it was an older style hotel and was pleasantly surprised by the update that has been made to the hotel/room. The room was clean and neat. We had booked a twin room and was given a room with three single beds in there and a door to an adjoining room - presumably a family suite split in two to cover current bookings. This caused a noise issue from lack of a sound proof barrier between rooms. The guests in the other room failed to take this into account and caused some disturbance to us during both nights. Also the room would have been very cramped if three people were sharing it. There was free WIFI which we found problematic, Reception were helpful and stated they were aware of this but no plans have been made to fix it up anytime soon. This Hotel is on a busy road, not far from the freeway north of the CBD and about 20 minutes from the airport. Would we stay here again - not sure.

« Convenient stop off before the air[port »

Clean, comfortable even though the room was a bit small. Bathroom was roomy. Great shower! The lady on reception was so helpful. We stayed prior to our flight to be near the airport as we had a long drive if direct from home.

    « Good location »

Close to where we needed to go for specialist appointments. Room very comfy, clean, well laid out and spacious. On site restaurant was a bonus.. Meals were well presented, tasty and well priced. Great location walking distance to several cafes and eateries and only 5 minute drive to Moonie Ponds FAMOUS Puckle St.

« Fantastic Place to Stay »

I Love staying at the Best Western Apartments in Essendon. It is central to trams, a short trip to CBD it is well secured for when I am travelling alone. It is close to all local traders, Westfield Airport West It has all amenities that is needed, Staff are friendly & great

    « Outdated »

Very out-dated. Although clean, it looks grubby. The bathroom was really out dated with no modern fittings. there were basic toiletries there but this did not make up for a cold and not nice looking bathroom. Draughty rooms, the gap under the door was about 15mm - 20mm and the wind was coming through, the door rattled as the wind blew giving me broken sleep, I had to jam the menu into the door jam to stop this. Electric bar heater in bathroom but needs to switched on 15 mins before using the bathroom to get it warm, therefore it is not energy efficient. The furniture has seen better days, wardrobes hitting the air-con unit so not opening fully. Chairs not comfy. Noise from other rooms and traffic was high. I had read this previously on the write ups but because it was booked on my behalf I took a gamble, I got it wrong. I would choose to stay elsewhere when I next visit.

    « Short Stay Excellence »

This Motor Inn is great for a short stay, located close to the city and airport. The room, though a little cramped, was clean and comfortable with tasteful furnishings. Good off road parking and easy access to local eateries. The staff are friendly and courteous.

    « Family Trip »

Booked three nights Friday until Sunday. On arrival found that rooms were not serviced on those three days. Same price as other days. Room brochure said "Safe deposit facilities are available at reception" Took money there and was told no such facilities existed. When I insisted he phoned someone who corrected his information. When I hand over money I asked for a receipt he said "why" eventually gave receipt on handwritten paper no leaterhead. Will not return.

    « Value for money »

We have stayed at this place on several occasions and would highly recommend it for its location and friendly service. From the moment we checked in we felt we were valued customers, the room maids in the morning even remembered us from our previous visit's.

« Pricy but not terrible »

Paid more than the place is worth. But it is well placed - a short walk to the Essendon town centre. Close enough to to city via tram out front. Room was very small but clean and modern. Great hot water. My room had a common area light outside the window and the block out curtains were not fitted well enough to block out light. So room was very light all night. Staff were lovely.

    « Dirty »

My wife spent 2hours cleaning the kitchen and surrounding area before we felt comfortable. The tile on floor and bathroom was chipped and cracked. Electric outlets had a layer of dirt on them indicating no cleaned in months. Not up to Best Western standards, they should be removed from their chain.

    « pleasant stay »

We paid a lot more at this best western than we normally do at others and the room was small and a little run down. Staff was friendly, beds were comfortable. I didn't like that they have no cleaning staff on Sunday or public holidays so my room was only cleaned once in 4 days. There was only cleaning staff on those days to clean room that were checking out ,couldn't see how hard it was to clean all rooms since they're there anyways.

    « No problems »

Place is cheap and fine. Easy to get to the city. Bathroom clean. Perfect for what i required. Can't comment on the food services. Could hear our flatulent neighbour farting during the night so provides free entertainment too!

« My 4 day getaway as a grooms man »

I had quite a pleasant stay at the best western, the room was comfortable and spacious for me and my friend The staff were very friendly and quite accomodating during check out and check in and I was able to pay my booking over the phone

    « Just a quick overnight »

This hotel has no bells and whistles. What it does have is proximity to the airport, which is why we booked. Having read some reviews we knew what to expect and therefore there were no surprises. That said we were a bit disappointed as the person in the room above us was a heavy walker and we could hear loud footsteps at all hours. Not to mention people talking outside very early in the morning.

« Great location but needs a rebuild »

A really great location is the best feature. The place is a dump and would be a great location for a 70's porno remake. Only stay here if you are desperate. The bathroom is the original, there is dust and particles in the carpet and hairs on the tiled tloor.

« Staff need to learn customer services as very rude & insulting »

Didn't even set foot in my room. After checking in I went straight out to my car & called my partner in tears. The man at reception was so rude & very insulting. I refused to stay there after what what said to me & after a ph call from my partner to the man in reception, I was refunded our money. Id rather sleep in my car on the side of the road then be insulted, hurt or spoken to like that ever again ?? Deeply disappointed.

« Basic, not all staff are nice »

This is the inly hotel/motel/inn that i stayed at with no soap in the toilet. Not even a small hand soap. It would be really good to have one as I don't know about other people but as soon as I get inside (esp after a long day of travelling), I like to wash my hands for hygiene purposes so it was a big let down for me. The rooms are basic and clean. I can't really find fault. Some of the staff though, I find quite rude and would benefit from customer service classes. Case in point, I went inside to look for the laundry area and this lady in uniform asked me "who are you?" Then I went to reception to ask about the printing some stuff and the man in the desk asked "who are you?" When I checked out this wonderful lady (Jennifer i think) assisted me and was really helpful. It was good thing cos it really made my stay a whole lot pleasant. Pros: it's a 7min walk to the train station that would take you to the city in 20mins. Pros: you can order at a nearby restaurant and have it delivered in your room and you can ask them to charge it in the room and pay during check out.

« Good value, good surroundings »

The Alexander Motor in is a good place to stay. Compared to city prices, it's great value. The train station is 10 minutes walk away and the train to the city takes 20 minutes. The Queen room has everything you could reasonably want -- TV, fridge, toaster, kettle, iron and ironing board. Coffee and tea are supplied. The unit has air conditioning. The rooms are not dingy and appear to have been redecorated recently in bright colours. One quibble -- we stayed for six nights and our bed linen was not changed. In all, it's good value and rates are open to negotiation.

    « Good location »

I spent a week in a contained apartment with my partner and it was an overall good experience. The down part was the noise coming from the street because our apartment was located really close to it, but there is not much you can do about traffic. Clean room and all we needed to cook & wash.

    « Convenient location »

We booked in to stay here to go to the Moonee Night Races. The rooms were large and very clean and were well equipped with everything we needed, the reception staff were all lovely. It was only a short walk to shops, pubs and to the Moonee Night races so was very convenient. Only annoyance was the TV in room 26 continually froze on all channels which was a little frustrating but other then that our stay was great.

    « Melbourne visit »

Good value and close to transport (rail and tram). Plenty of eating places nearby. Room was tidy although bar bridge was tiny. TV could have been a little larger, but not a major issue. Staff friendly. Ate at the restaurant one night - was good value (specials on that night). Ask for a ground room - easier to bring your gear in and out.

FAMILY ROOM = SHOE BOX... BIG $ 4 POOR VALUE Dirty room. Hair on beds glad i brought my own bedding and pillows. Bathroom had dirt all over the top of tiles. Handles shower and door were grimey, floor was sticky. also was glad i brought cleaning wipes, wiped over all surfaces and the wipes were black. the family room was literelly a queensize bed a single bed and walking room around it. No power points next to the bed. No alarm clock. Not very happy wouldnt stay here again. Didnt get what we paid for.

« Will not go back »

Basic room. Pretty clean. No amenities at all in toilet except for an extra toilet paper and towels (not even a small hand soap). Morning managers can take lessons in customer service: I walked in the parking to try to look for the laundry room and manager saw me and asked "who are you?" And then I walked into reception to ask a question and a different person asked again "who are you?" ?? I think one of the pros of this inn is that Essendon station is 500m away. You can catch a train there to the city which takes about 20mins

    « Convenient Location »

This hotel is conveniently located, close to Melbourne airport and close to Melbourne CBD. Its clean, comfortable although the rooms are not palatial they well maintained. Staff are friendly and very courteous and breakfast is well presented and good quality and quantity.

    « Crap »

Don't bother, crap room not what we booked, uncomfortable AF bed, minimal amenities, couldn't even tell if restaurant was open. Room was shoe box size despite booking "family room" certainly not worth the price paid. Booked "2 bedroom" and got one bedroom with bunks, not what was booked. Soaps and shampoo were "communal" pump bottles in the bathroom, nil others provided. Room is old AF and barely fit us, no cutlery or plates in room. Staff were friendly.

« Very near, friendly staff, great value »

Very friendly staff. Rooms were neat, basic facilities but good value. Parking not a problem and included in price. Motel has restaurant facilities, which look well presented. Can't comment on the meals I attended a business dinner elsewhere that night. Tram stop very close do if you need to go into the City, you can be there in 25 minutes. Seniors also get a discount. Good value.

    « A busy motel. »

The motel was further out of Melbourne than we realised. It was in Essenden. We took a 30 minute tram ride in and back from the city each day. The stop was near the motel. The staff were excellent though the rooms are now ready for a programme of refurbishment.

    « Somewhere to crash »

It's not Top dollar, motel service and range of hotel rms and apartments. I have stayed here a few times,in apartment with some friends/colleagues. Nice to break out into a little garden area and the Essendon area is superb, only 5 min walk up the road from civilisation. 15 min cab ride from airport or plenty of parking if you get a rental. If you want luxury, forget it. If you want a cheap, clean place to crash with mates it will do!

« No hygiene standards, refused refund »

I stayed here with my partner and we found long hairs on the towels and pillows, towels weren't folded, we even found eyelashes and curly hairs on the bed as well as in the shower. Unprofessional service and attitude. On top of that, it's right by a main road, lots of cars, trucks, police, ambulances passing through during the night, be prepared for noise.

    « Mediocre »

Nothing fancy and very basic rooms, although some rooms had bunk beds which i found very odd. Rooms were well equip though with fridge, Jug and taster. Excellent location close to the centre of Essendon and a reasonable drive to the CBD of Melbourne. Although the WiFi was very poor quality and I struggled to connect.

« Value for money, good location »

We have stayed here several times, as we have family nearby. It's a simple, unassuming place, but should satisfy most needs. We have always found staff to be pleasant and our room clean. The beds are comfortable. You can have a simple breakfast delivered to the room and there is a bistro attached to the premises. There is reverse cycle aircon and the bathroom is ok. Given the reasonable pricing, it represents good value for money at a budget hotel. Wifi is free, but service is patchy and can be affected by the weather conditions. There is parking on site and a tram goes past out the front. It's close to the airport and to various neighbourhoods easily reached by car, where you can shop or dine. There are a few small shops, cafés and a supermarket within 5 or 10 minutes strolling distance. Just remember that the reception is not staffed 24 hours, so if you are arriving very late or very early, you will need to make arrangements for access.

« Unacceptable Service and Hygiene / In breech of Australian Law. »

I stayed there with my partner on the 8th of November 2015. We were given a room which looked okay upon walk in, however on closer inspection, found hairs and eyelashes on the pillows. We were concerned about the hygiene implications surrounding this issue and went to reception after we had taken our belongings out of the room. We spoke to the woman in reception and she gave us a new room key without apologising to us about what we had just seen in the room. When we arrived in the second room we were given, we promptly stripped the sheets and found pubic hair, stains, and eyelashes of all things on the sheets! Understandably, we were disgusted by this, and at this stage did not want to stay at the hotel anymore as we were not satisfied with the level of hygiene in both rooms presented to us. We went to reception again, and before the receptionist finished attending to another customer, she interrupted their conversation to ask us what was the matter. We then explained that we found more hairs on the sheets in the second room, and she told us that this was impossible, to which we responded by inviting her to take a look for herself. She made the customer wait while she came up to the room with us. Once we were in the room, she quickly glanced at the bed, and started to blame their dry cleaner for leaving hairs on the sheets (which is obviously is not an acceptable excuse, as the cleaners should have noticed the hairs on the sheets prior to putting them on the bed!). She said that she was expecting much worse conditions for our complaints. We made it clear we were not happy with this, and her instant reply was "you're not getting a refund". We were not happy with her response, and questioned it, to which her response was ?we can't give you a refund because you paid online'. This was not the case, as I had paid with my credit card at reception less than 30 minutes beforehand (with the same receptionist). Under second 54 of Australian Consumer Law, it states that: ?Goods must be of ?acceptable quality'. Acceptable quality is defined in section 54 of the ACL such that goods are of acceptable quality if they are: ? fit for all the purposes for which goods of that kind are commonly supplied; ? acceptable in appearance and finish; and ? safe", which the Alexander Motor Inn and Apartments was not. In such a scenario, the Australian Consumer Law outlines that the consumer can: "cancel the services and get a refund for any unconsumed services (for example, the unused nights of a hotel stay)". It also states that if the hotel refuses or takes too long to fix the problem, the customer can "cancel the service and get a refund." Not only is this hotel a terrible example of a Best Western Hotel, but it is also in breech of Australian Law. I sincerely hope that anyone staying at this hotel considers twice before booking, and becomes familiar with their rights as a customer.

« No after hours phone number to check access »

I had paid for two rooms, and after a flight delay, required late check in. Despite a number of phone calls, there was no answer and there was no way we could check on how to get into our rooms after hours. Four hours later I received an email to say that there was a note on the front door with the information, but it's unclear how travellers at the airport could know this in advance. Very disappointing, extremely poor customer service. Definitely wouldn't recommend.

« quiet inner city motel »

We have stayed @ this estabilshment previously so had no hesitation returning. Again we were not disappointed by our choice. The same people still own this motel, luckily we were able to get a ground floor unit. Somewhat surprised after our first night we were greeted by the same housekeeping staff as our previous stay. They even remembered the unit we stayed over 2 years previouly. Clean & well maintained, most definately would return again. Close to city & dfo tram stop at front door & Essendon social club is not far away too.

« Stay 20 to 25 Sept Essendon Best Western »

The staff on book in and departure did not appear to have experience or knowledge of the procedures and requirements for bookings through Best Western did not know what was booked to begin within and could not pay with the Best Western card on departure.

    « Great motel »

Clean and tidy room. The room contained a toaster, electric jug, fridge, tea & coffee, iron & ironing board. Our room also had a queen bed and a single bed. There were bathroom toiletries (shampoo, conditioner & soap). There was a restaurant attached to the motel, the food was okay. My husband ordered the surf & turf and unfortunately his steak was cold which indicated the steak was cooked first then put aside while the seafood was cooked, he still said the overall was okay. For breakfast it is room service only. The cleaning staff, office people, restaurant staff were all excellent. There was parking outside our room for our car. The Moonee Valley race course with Legends Bistro is only 1.8km down the road. Their address is cnr Wilson & Thomas St, Moonee Ponds. Don't forget to sign up for a City Link Pass just in case you end up having to travel on the motorway where a toll may exist.

« Reasons for using this hotel »

Visiting relatives who live locally so this who recommended this place as other relatives had stayed there.they had no complaints so thought we might like it.minimum 200 letters is far to much to fill in

    « Nice Motel but »

Music from neighbours party was -very- loud but not the motels fault The room is nice but not extravagant. The Melbourne public transport was an attraction going past the motel but when you look into it for a visitor once off use its not worth it.
