    « Xmas shopping »

A very good stay at a comfortable hotel. Position is next to Minster, central to everything. Stayed in a 'cosy' double nr. 31, plenty big enough with large ensuite. Good breakfast, good choice. Paid extra for car parking, worth it if you have ever visited York. Will stay again for sure

    « Graduation stay »

Incredibly convenient for daughters graduation in the Minster. Excellent service, lovely rooms - although very warm even with the heating turned off. We ate in the restaurant - the food was fab - it was virtually empty which was a shame for the hotel but great for us. Location couldn't be better. Valet parking service. Would definitely recommend this hotel and will be back.

    « Great Hotel »

Business trip and I would certainly return for leisure. Ten minutes walk in a straight line from the train station right by the Cathedral- fantastic location next to the city. Staff warm and friendly. Room compact (small double), very clean, shower over bath and tea and coffee making facilities. Table at breakfast overlooked the Cathedral. Good choice from the buffet plus cooked available. I hope to return.

    « Great location »

Not the first time we have stayed at the Dean Court and hopefully not the last The hotel is expensive when compared to other hotels in the area, however look our for special rates Ideally located with excellent food, and the staff are very helpful We also made use of the car parking service £18.50 which is pricey but it takes away the hassle of trying to find a suitable car park

« First Class Car Parking arrangement in an almost, impossible city. »

Apart from it being, perhaps, the most conveniently situated hotel in York, yards from the Minster, it's amenities are A1. Very clean and with a splendid breakfast. the staff were not to be faulted. A happy experience!

    « York and Dales »

This hotel is simply excellent in many ways. The location is perfect - right across the street from the beautiful York Minster Cathedral. The staff is extremely helpful and always interested in making your stay wonderful. The breakfasts are delicious. The city is great to walk and shop. It's one of our favorite cities in England. If you will be visiting York, be sure to stay here.

    « Graduation Stay.. »

We booked here close to the Minster primarily for our son's graduation, but it was also our Anniversary so we decided to push the boat out and treat ourselves to a stay in one of the best suites with a view of the Minster. Check in was busy but efficient, our son was allocated his double room and we were shown to ours. The room was lovely, but my husband was pretty certain it wasn't what we'd booked and paid for so he went to reception to query this. Indeed he was correct-we were in a deluxe double, and as the Hotel was full to capacity we could not have the Suite. Now we are reasonable people and accept errors can occur from time to time-it's how the error is dealt with that matters. We were disappointed to be sure but credit where it was due, the duty Manager Steve admitted responsibility straight away, apologised and put a plan in place to ensure we were reimbursed financially without hesitation. He really wanted us to feel we mattered as guests and he did that for us. This is a lovely Hotel the bed was supremely comfy and the room warm and clean. Breakfast was piping hot and tasty and the furnishing and décor very tasteful. Lunch in the little Bistro area was also really nice and well presented too. I would not hesitate to return here and hopefully it would be a 5 star review next time- for the right room!! Good leadership makes for a smoothly run ship and I think Steve has that sorted!

    « Super stay »

Stayed here for 3 nights last week. Only 10 mins walk from train station . Situated right next to the beautiful Minster. This must be the best location in York. Room very good size . Bathroom lovely with actual bath ( not all do these days ) which I love after a day walking . Breakfast is served with buffet choice of cereal and juices and made to order hot food . Eggs benedict are my favourite. All staff very friendly and helpful with special mention to Simon the manager and Steve . We will definitely be returning to this hotel . Super stay

« Best Western, Best Hotel!! »

Stayed here for one night when seeing Jools Holland at the Barbican. We could not fault the hotel at all. Excellent service from polite, friendly staff. The hotel is in a prime location for everything York has to offer and considering this it was not overpriced. We will definitely stay here again.

« Amazing location and great front desk staff! »

This BW looks so good from the outside and has such a great location, you can hopefully overlook the extremely tired furnishings. The bathrooms are pretty updated, though. We were able to check in early and liked our tour of the city, courtesy of touryork.com.

    « Weekend in York »

We (2 adults & 2 children) stayed from Friday the 21st to Sunday the 23rd and it was excellent we all enjoyed the stay, we had a good room with a view of the Minster, the staff were all helpful and friendly, we will definitely stay again.

    « Fabulous weekend. »

Our room at the Best Western was in the perfect location for a weekend in York. The view was amazing and the sound of the bells in the morning was something very special. We stayed in a suite, which was comfortable with an excellent bathroom and lots of nice little extras including a box of fudge! As others have said it can get a bit noisy on a weekend night, but I didn't think it was too bad. Breakfast was really good, however, service first morning was excellent with second morning very poor. Saving grace second morning was sitting in the best spot in the restaurant looking out at the minster. We would definitely go back to this hotel to visit York again, and would happily recommend it to anyone.

    « Lovely hotel. »

I booked this hotel for a night away with my daughter and was pleasantly surprised by it. It's an easy walk from the train station and I was thrilled to discover how close it was to The Minster. We stayed in room 40 which was a twin room, it was decorated really nicely and although I would've preferred a larger bed, I can't say I slept badly as they were very comfy for single beds. The breakfast was nice, cereals, yoghurts and pastries etc for you to help yourselves to and then you could order hot food which was freshly prepared and tasted very good. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and gave us tickets to the Minster which another guest had donated. I wouldn't describe this hotel as high end or luxury but if I visit York again I would definitely stay here as both my daughter and I really liked it.

    5
    « Excellent place »

We stayed here for 3 nights and were pleased with the pleasant hotel, very clean, and its location. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. The staff at reception was charming and helpful. Breakfast was good and plentiful, it really set you up for the day.

« Great hotel in the centre of York »

It was quite a special weekend for us and we wanted to be in the centre of York. From the moment we arrived, the staff looked after us helping to unpack the car and then taking it away. We knew we had a small room but it was comfy, clean and absolutely fine. It's perfectly located in the centre and lovely to hear the bells from the Minster

    5
    « Fantastic hotel »

Excellent hotel in a perfect location, staff went the extra mile at every opportunity, lovely clean hotel with modern rooms, even got a complimentary bottle of champagne on arrival without asking! Cannot fault the place in any way

    « Minster bells serenade »

The building that houses the Best Western Dean Court Hotel was built in 1865 to house the clergy of the York Minster which is just across the street. Skillful remodeling has created a comfortable, convenient hotel in what has to be the best location in York. The bells of the Minster ring out as one takes a short walk the The Shambles or only a bit longer one to the Railroad Museum. Excellent restaurants are close by and the hotel's own restaurant is quite good. Staff are excellent, willing to help in any way they can.

« In All Very Nice »

stayed there for 2 nights and got to say it was great the staff were brilliant couldnot ask for more. The breakfast was amazing with the restaurant staff faultless Location for me was fautless the room how ever was quite small, had a fair bit of dust on the lights and bed side cabinet and the bathroom shower area was in need of a bit of love and also the window in bathroom was very ropey. also my room was above or alongside a air con compressor i think and a constant drone did get quite annoying but all in all would go again

« Central and Extremely Friendly Staff »

We stayed in the Dean Court Hotel for a wedding in Yorkminster so location was perfect. Our room was decent and surprisingly roomy for an old building. Staff were extremely friendly and always willing to assist.

« Excellent hotel right opposite the Minster »

We stayed here for 1 night for a wedding at the Minster. The staff were very friendly, showed us round the hotel and explained everything in our room. The room was clean, fresh modern decor and overlooked the road and Minster. The bar and restaurant were lovely as were the staff. I left my scarf behind when we checked out and they have offered to post it to me which I thought was very very kind. We have already said that we would return when we visit York again in the future. A really lovely hotel right in the middle of York and very close- 10 mins- walk to the main station.

« Afternoon tea with friends »

We had afternoon tea, it was very nice. Staff very nice, couldn't do enough for you. Would definitely go again ? Sorry, but feel I have said all I need too, on other places excellent is ample. Your loss if not enough.

    « Fantastic location! »

You couldn't get a better location in York, right next to the Minster, even without that this hotel would score highly. The staff throughout the hotel are unfailingly friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. I booked a 'compact double' room but got upgraded to a standard double, this was nicely decorated with all the amenities you expect: lovely bathroom, tea, coffee, fridge with water, bath robe, choice of pillow etc. Although it was at the back of the hotel, this didn't bother me as I only staying one night and was out and about shopping and exploring York. I had dinner in the restaurant and the food was excellent, I can highly recommend the white chocolate mousse, I was also given a couple of canapes to taste (a nice touch). Breakfast was equally as good, cereals, fresh fruit, full english - check out the website for the full menu there is too much to list here! They also put a note with the weather forecast for the day on your table so you know if you need an umbrella - which the hotel provides. It is these little extra touches which make this hotel special, I am only sorry I didn't stay longer - next time I will. It is within walking distance of the station and the centre of York with everything it has to offer is on your doorstep, what more could you ask. The hotel will store your luggage if your room isn't ready and take it to your room, check out time is 11am but again they stored my luggage until the afternoon.

« Short visit to York »

We planned to spend a week in Yorkshire and then a week in London. This hotel has a lovely staff, and we had a very nice room. the hotel is in a great location, right across the street from the Minster. There's a lot to see in York and if I'm able to return I'll definitely stay here again

    « Our Wedding »

We stayed at The Dean Court for 2 nights with all our immediate family for our Wedding in Sept. From the point of enquiry for group bookings right through to checking out the staff could not have been more helpful. We booked a large table in the restaurant for our wedding breakfast, the food was fantastic and the service second to none. We had our two small children with us the whole time and the staff treated them like family. Beautiful rooms with great views, comfortable beds and the breakfast was lovely too. Couldn't recommend this place more, we'll definitely be staying here again and again.

    « A wonderful stay »

Throughly enjoyed our stay. Hotel couldn't have been better positioned for exploring York. Our room had a fantastic view of the minster. The staff were all very helpful and in addition the car parking service reduced any stress we may have had on our arrival. The room was clean and our bed was comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and our table again overlooked the minster so we sat and watched the world go by. Thank you for a lovely stay.

    « Amazing darling !! »

We have just returned from a memorable, unforgettable weekend at The Deans court hotel and I'm sure most of the wonderful staff there will remember us five sisters too!! From the moment we arrived, we were made very welcome and special, nothing was too much trouble. As everyone has pointed out, the Hotel faces York minster and is within easy reach of the city centre and the train station. The breakfast was a banquet, with something to suit everyone's taste. One of the highlights of our stay was when we mentioned that we were there for our sisters 60th birthday whilst having breakfast, Ronny, a delightful member of the restaurant staff, served her poached eggs with a candle in a a piece of toast with a smiley face, after that, the rest of the staff turned our breakfast into a party (we loved it, thank you) we apologise for not remembering all of your names to mention you personally. I'm afraid we'll be coming back, because we loved our stay with you.

    « Fabulous hotel »

This has to be one of the best hotels we have stayed at in this country. We cannot fault it at all. The room we had was huge with a large en suite. It was suitable for a disabled person as there was a wet room incorporated into the bathroom. The water was always piping hot. The service however, was what made our stay outstanding. The staff were fabulous...especially at breakfast. The waiters were so pleasantly attentive and happy. Food was great. The position is perfect as it sits outside the Minster. The bells and street noise may prove intrusive to some, but I cannot say it bothered me. Would definitely book again as we will definitely be coming back to York...what a fab time we have had here!

« Good Hotel in A Great Location »

Whilst the Dean Court Hotel's location is a major factor in its favour, that is not to say that it has other attractions that make it good accommodation in the centre of York. Others have spoken about its proximity to the Minster and York's transport, shops, attractions and restaurants, but this is also a nice, comfortable small hotel with quite adequate facilities. Granted, the rooms are very small, but nonetheless they are well equipped and provide comfortable accommodation. The restaurant has a good menu and the quality of the evening meal was of a reasonably high standard. I found the staff to be very friendly, efficient and helpful. In summary, this is a hotel where you can comfortably spend a couple of nights whilst you explore the beauties of York.

    « A beauty in a beautiful place »

This is a lovely hotel. It is right opposite York Minster and the buildings are historic. The room I had looked out on to the west door of the Minster and it was a joy to look out at any time of day or night. The facilities and service are first rate. The room was huge, it had a super bathroom and I was extremely comfortable. I used room-service quite a lot for meals and it was really good. I would recommend the Dean Court without reserve to anyone.

    « Basic 4 star accommodation. »

Our recent 4 night stay in B.W + Dean's Court was satisfactory. The pro's were; a wonderful position almost opposite the Minster, and close to all attractions. Friendly, accommodating staff that solved every issue with a smile. Large rooms compared to other places in the Uk. Now for the cons. The rooms were quiet outdated, with basic amenities available. The furniture had had its day. Chair had a sunken seat and could feel springs at some spots on the bed. With an upgrade of furniture and decor, this place would be a gem.

« Little gem in the heart of the city »

very friendly welcome from all staff. Hotel only 10 mins walk from train station and very central, overlooking York minster. Room small but had everything we needed. Lovely bathroom, with nice bath to soak in after walking around the city. Everything was scrupulously clean. Ate in restaurant, and food was fantastic. Again all the staff were very welcoming and helpful. will definitely come here again.

« Unquestionably the Best Hotel in York »

Undoubtedly, some may quibble with such a comparison-generating title as above, but I can safely say that I cannot imagine finding a more comfortable, convenient, luxurious, or reasonably-priced hotel in York. The room was, admittedly, a bit small - but I chalked this up to being an American in England. That is the only negative thing that can be said. The furnishings were comfortable and stylish for the theme - soft colors and old-world stylings. The hotel is located thirty seconds walk from York Minster, and the grand cathedral dominates every view from the hotel. Despite being on a main street, the room was quiet, save for the singing of a street busker who had an angelic voice. The bed and bedding were very comfortable and, a wonder for the chronically overheated like myself, the room came with a fan. The bathroom was large (again, not to American standards, but large by British ones), and modern. Finally, the real highlight: the price was well below average for the part of town it was located in. I can safely say that the next time I'm in York - whether in two years' or twenty - the Dean's Court will be my hotel of choice.

    4
    « Nearly 5 star all around »

The location of the hotel is excellent as others have mentioned. It is right beside York Minster and the city centre. The staff are very friendly and helpful, with special mention to the man from Northern Ireland, who showed us to our room and was super friendly each time we saw him. The room itself was great for a 4 star hotel, with TV, fridge and a very comfortable bed. We only stayed one night and I must say the breafast would be very hard to beat The only minor flaw was that I emailed the hotel saying it was my partners birthday. I mentioned that I would pay for a surprise. This was all last minute and in-hindsight I should have phoned. There was no acknowledgement and this was disappointing. Overall a great stay, would definitely recommend.

    « A lovely night in York »

We had a deluxe Minster facing room that was spacious and beautiful, including the bathroom that was filled with vintage details. They have a lift that is a nice touch. the hotel restaurant has exceptional food and we had a lovely dinner at a corner table that overlooked the Minster and its plaza. Its close to lots of shops and the shambles so if you want to get around after dropping off your car for the very efficient valet there are plenty of options. It is a bit pricey but if you're looking for a special night or a well located place to explore York it is the place to be! P.S. if you can afford it spring for the enhancement package and get the box of chocolates. some of the best chocolates we've ever tasted!

    4
    « Location Location Location »

Our hotel room faced the York Minster. I don't think there could have been a better view. When we left in the morning to go wandering about, everything was so close to our location that we couldn't get lost if we tried. Around the corner and a short walk to walk the walls. Around the other corner and straight on through with a slight turn and we were at the Shambles. A little bit more of a walk and we were at the Yorkshire Museum.

    « a good stay »

we were pleased to stay there - so central and welcoming. we liked the decor and breakfast good too. easy to walk to most of the places we wanted to visit! york is an interesting place, getting more yuppified tho.

« Great Hotel and staff »

Stayed here with my husband for 2 nights. The hotel itself is fairly standard, but the rooms are nice, clean and not too small - the only downside to the room was the shower, which was nice and hot and powerful but was let down by a shower head that wouldn't point anywhere other than the wall! We had a room on the corner, with views of the Abbey - which was great. Yes the room was noisy at night, but you are in the middle of a busy city centre - the location is perfect to get everywhere you want, so a little room noise isn't a big problem. The staff were all so very friendly and nice - the real selling point of this hotel, along with the breakfast - it was beautiful, with plenty of good choices. Not the cheapest hotel, but again you are paying city rates!

    « Best Hotel ... Ever »

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for one night last week (27 September) along with another couple. This was not our first stay at this hotel and again we were not disappointed. The trip to York was to celebrate our Pearl wedding anniversary. We arrived at the hotel at 10.45 and were immediately shown to our rooms. We had the Wolsey Room with a fantastic view of the Minster. We also had in our room an anniversary card and box of fudge from all the hotel staff. We didn't dine that evening at the hotel but breakfast the next morning was lovely. The hotel even looked after our bags for us on checking out until we were ready to catch our train later that evening. All of the hotel staff we met during our stay were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I am certainly looking forward to my next stay at the hotel in July next year.

    « Fantastic location »

Hotel is a 10 minute walk from York station and is located directly opposite the Minster. Staff were very welcoming in our arrival, we were a couple of hours early but are room was ready. We were shown to our room by Fredrico, he was very friendly and helped us with our luggage,he asked us how long we were staying and we explained that we were in York for our Anniversary. After settling in we walked into town which didn't take too long due to the fantastic location of the hotel, on our return there was a box of fudge and an Anniversary card from the staff, left on our bed, lovely touch. We only had breakfast in the hotel one morning but it was great, buffet style with a cooked breakfast, all the restaurant staff were lovely especially a guy called Ronny who always had a smile. Our room was cleaned daily and the tea and coffee tray replenished.

« Great location, but you will wake up with the sound of bells »

Dean Court is a great wee hotel for an overnight stay. But don't forget, your right next to the Minister, so them bells will wake you up at 8am :) Very clean and the staff were lovely. The room was tight but ok for a night. The room was very warm and there was no way to turn the temperature down or open a window. Its worth getting up early for breakfast and getting the table overlooking the Minister, very picturesque. If your vegetarian, don't order the veggie sausage or bacon, its like cardboard. I had the regular breakfast and it was delicious. Overall a great stay and I would highly recommend for a weekend stay. 7/10

« Can't get more central than this! »

This was a flying visit to York, one night two days My wife and I were made welcome by the staff who were all, without exception, most pleasant and helpful. We were given a room with a view of the Minster which is directly opposite and the beds (twins) furnishings and bathroom were first class. Breakfast was of the self-service style for cereals etc and waitress service for the main course. It was of good quality. We would recommend the hotel and would be pleased to re-visit. The only downside (which is no fault of the hotel's) was noise from passers by from 11pm onwards. (A Monday night). I was awoken several times by disorderly persons shouting and sometimes screaming. We never saw a policeman during our two day stay and York police should get a grip and not allow people to roam the streets at night breaching the Peace.

    5
    « Great Location! »

You are literally across from the York Minster, The Shambles (shopping/eating district), and walking distance to the many museums, gardens, and historic sites. The staff went out of their way to help with luggage and make us comfortable in our room. Our room had a perfect view of the Minster. The room was large and comfortable with a small walk in closet, refrigerator, fans, and desk/vanity. Our breakfast included fresh fruits, juices, pastries, cereal, yogurt, granola, dried fruit. Then you order your full breakfast with a variety of hearty options.

    « Awesome experience »

I checked into Lamp and Lion Inn initially and had to check out due to really moldy bathroom and loud noise from people drunk in their pub down stairs and noise of shattered bottle in the middle of the night. On top of that, the window kept making noise the whole night. I couldn't tolerate any of that for around £232 for 2 nights. So I checked out immediately and did a last minute reservation in this best western hotel which was about the same price as Lamp & Lion Inn. This best western is really nice. Had a really good experience right from the moment I got to their front door. When I got to this hotel with couple of heavy bags, the person at the lobby came running to help me with the bags. That was a really good gesture. The staff in the lobby are really courteous, helpful & quick. I travel quite often and have stayed at various best western hotels in different countries. But this one is by far the best staff and room based on my experience. Really decent place to stay in and was treated really well. The gentlemen that gave me my hotel keys walked us to our room and showed our way. He was really kind and asked us about our day at York, etc. I really recommend this hotel. I normally don't write reviews, but I thought I should for this place as my experience was really good. Hotel is right next to the York minster (very centrally located). Room was spotless. Bathroom was very clean. There was water in fridge, biscuits, kettle for coffee/tea, hair dryer, iron, tv, fan, etc. Thumbs up to the staff of this Best western plus deal court hotel. Keep up the good work!!!

« Stayed after the Hull marathon. »

We stayed with two friends after we traveled from Hull after the marathon. Our friends who payed the same price for their room got a spacious room with views of the minster, we got a room you could not put a suitcase down before tripping up over it it wasn't acceptable so we called reception and they moved us to a superb room with a view of the minster and room to breath. The beds were very comfortable and the reception staff excellent. We came down for breakfast and was seated by a man who to say the least was a bit rude, something what lost this hotel maximum rating. Why ?. Because we asked if we could sit near the window !. Nothing wrong with that would you say when there was plenty of room near the window, so from there on his frostiness made our breakfast unpleasant, its such a shame .

Superb setting and very comfortable hiotel. Beware the small doubles, they are REALLY small and won't fit 2 single beds. staff were very understanding and helpful with upgrade.Quite pricey but yopu pay for the setting and the comfort level was high (once we got a bigger bed!)

« Another wonderful visit to the Dean Court »

Stayed here previously in a cosy room, so thought we would upgrade this time. had a lovely room overlooking the Minster, was not disappointed, Lots of space lovely en-suite, comfy bed , lots of little touches make it just right. Breakfast tasty and served quickly. Staff so friendly and helpful, Valet parking a treat a so no parking worries.

    « Lovely Hotel »

Excellently placed next to the Minster this is a lovely hotel with very friendly and attentive staff. The room was comfortable, clean and large overlooking the road, which can be noisy at night so best to shut the windows and use the fan provided in the room if it gets warm! The bed was extremely comfortable resulting in an excellent night's sleep. Although I didn't eat in the restaurant the bar area was comfortable and relaxing. I will certainly come back.

    « Incredible location! »

This hotel is right across the street from York Minster. The bells are wonderful to hear! The hotel is small and charming and the staff is very helpful. Had breakfast in bed ,brought on time and accompanied by the bells and organ as it is Sunday. Talk about getting 'a sense of place'!

« Restaurant visit Impressive menu, not so impressive cuisine »

This well reviewed and well situated town centre Hotel has a restaurant with an impressively written menu, was it a rival to the fine dining at the Grand Hotel across the river? we tried the restaurant one quiet midweek night. The staff were welcoming and efficient, there were quite a few diners in the restaurant, all over 65. Strangely loudspeakers serenaded us with rather loud jazz related music with an insistent loud beat, more suitable for 20 year olds and not exactly relaxing. Most of the better restaurants across the town offer dishes basses on the same small range of local ingredients (fHaddock, lamb, salt cured beef) and this makes it easy to compare their offerings and the prowess of the chef. The meal was quite decent, but not anything like as subtle as the menu suggested, the accompanying bread rolls seemed to have been thawed out and imperfectly cooked, the were not really cooked i the centre and had probably been bought in from some industrial baker. Desserts were fair but it was not possible to detect the sorrel (used in several restaurants locally) which in this restaurant is used in the gelato and the lemon gelato was disappointing. Service was friendly and attentive and if the menu was overpriced, the situation of the restaurant and the quality of the staff make it worth trying.

« Lovely hotel and staff »

When we arrived we was greeted by a lovely blonde lady think her name was Amy she was lovely and nothing was to much trouble. She took us up to the room and made us aware if we needed anything to let them know. The room was lovely and spacious with great tea and coffee making facilities. It is about a 5 minute walk into the town and was the perfect location. We didn't eat at the hotel but pubs and restaurants near by were amazing great food at great prices. Will defiantly be returning soon

« Overnight stay in York »

We stayed at the Dean Court on our way back from a holiday in Whitby. The room was small but very attractive and well appointed. We ate in the restaurant and enjoyed a good meal - shallot tarte Tatin followed by fillet steak and peppercorn sauce then ginger ice cream. All very good. Great views of the Minster and very convenient for shopping. We'll be back next year.

    « great location »

Would have given it a 3.5 stars but there's no such thing. The hotel is across from the York Minster and about a 10 - 15 min walk to the train station. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room we stayed on the 3rd floor had no elevator access. Our room being opposite a pub, it was quite noisy early in the morning with people rolling metal beer canisters. Wifi was good. Not a fan of the separate hot and cold faucets on the sink, like to be able to control water temperature.

Stayed for one night this weekend in a deluxe double. Ideal central location, friendly helpful staff, view of the Minster from our room was fab. Will definitely return and have already recommended to friends and family!

    « Great customer service »

When we arrived at this hotel there was no record of our reservation due to a third party booking error. However, the young lady at the desk was brilliant (I wish I had got her name). She agreed to match the price we had been quoted, took our bag and sent us off to have a lovely day, assuring us it would all be sorted. On our return, we had been allocated a lovely room. Every member of staff we met was courteous and helpful. The car parking facility for £18.50 is well worth using and is very efficiently run. The location is superb right next to the Minster. Breakfast is to a high standard. Well done Dean Court - we will return.

The Dean Court staff could not have done any more for us during our wedding weekend if they tried. The food was incredible, the staff a true credit and so helpful. They took the time to make us feel so welcome.

« Wonderful Stay in the Heart of York »

This hotel is a short walk from the rail station and is located right next to York Minster. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast in the hotel restaurant was outstanding; however, it is an optional add on to the room rate. The room's decor and functional design made our experience enjoyable. Highly recommend! Wished we could have stayed longer!

    « Weekend break »

Fabulous hotel. Great location right just a short walk from train station. Hotel is right beside York Monster and short walk to the shambles market. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms, they are comfortable and clean. Good selection for breakfast. Staff friendly and would stay again

« Quite a find, in amongst a myriad of other restaurants »

This Best Western appears to be one of the better ones, although we weren't staying and can't comment on the rooms. The lobby and bar area all felt suitably upmarket, and the frontage and its position, right in front of York Minster, give it an upmarket feel. But the real find for us was the restaurant. We partook of the Early Bird Menu and ate at 6.15pm, suiting us after a day walking around the delights of York. And the food, it's presentation and its service were all excellent. Such a shame for the new chef of just six weeks ( he apparently used to chef for the city's Grand Hotel nearby) that the restaurant was deserted, and this on a Friday evening. This chef certainly knows what he's doing! And certainly the early evening prices are fantastic value for money. Such a shame that others haven't yet found this great food, in a lovely place, at good prices and delivered with such good service. Just our kind of place!

« Perfect location and super service »

My husband and I stayed at the wonderful Dean Court Hotel for six nights in late August. I had booked the hotel earlier this year (March) as we needed an accessible room with a wheel in shower (which also ended up having a fold down from the wall seat). The bathroom also did have a bathtub which was good for a nice soak after being tourist all day. From my first contact to the hotel in March til the end of our wonderful stay in August, everything was 100 % perfect. Greetings from the front desk helpers, breakfast servers smiles and friendliness, the large room (# 20) and clean, clean, clean room service all made our stay very enjoyable. Yes, room #20 is on the front of the hotel where on Friday and Saturday nights there is some taxi traffic but having the lovely park across the street to view and also being able to open the windows and have a nice breeze come in the windows makes up for the very very little noise we heard. We did borrow a fan to use (the hotel only has a/c on the ground floor) and on one afternoon we did use one of the two portable air conditioning machines the hotel has to loan you. We had very warm sunny days and cool nights so perfect weather. The hotel is very wheelchair friendly and someone was always available to assist us when needed. Greatly appreciated. For our location needs (to visit the Minster and old town) and our room needs, the hotel could not have been better. Thank you everyone for making our vacation so nice.

    « Tiny rooms »

The hotel itself is in a fantastic position right near The Minster. The staff were friendly and helpful but our double room was disappointing. The room was by far the smallest we encountered in 3 weeks of travelling and worse still was very stuffy on a day that was really only warm not hot.

« Centre of York at its finest »

Lovely hotel to stay in closest hotel to the York Minster that I know of anyway, Great foods although very posh kind of food so if you want a burger and chips your not getting it from the hotel that's for sure. Amazing scenery outside of the hotel and very nice looking place inside also the butler we had was very welcoming and warming... Quite a dear place too stay but worth it.

    « Just the Job »

Stayed at Dean Court for Sat & Sun night at the beginning of Sept. Staff extremely welcoming and very helpful from arrival to departure. Good choice of Breakfast options and very tasty. The location of the hotel is simply fantastic. Some reviews complain about noise outside the hotel late at night and into the early hours which we did experience some degree, but the hotel cannot be blamed for this and all the other positives far outweigh any minor disturbance - in my opinion.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this gorgeous place. The staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and ensure we had a great time in York (thank you!). The rooms were spotless, spacious and had a delightful selection of tea and biccies to enjoy. The hotel itself is located in the heart of York and just steps away from York Minster, the Roman walls, and an endless selection of top-notch cafes, restaurants, bars and shops. Highly recommend!

« Return visit to York »

Just returned from York, & stayed at Dean court hotel, after years of wanting to stay here I wasn't disappointed, the hotel is lovely, very tasteful decorated, & the staff are great , very helpful, friendly, & genuine, there's a cafe/bar, where we had lunch, which was lovely & well presented, and an amazing restaurant, I have eaten in some lovely restaurant & had great food before, but this is the best I've had , delicious, breakfast was really nice , everything cooked to order, we stayed in a standard double, which was very nicely decorated, and well equipped for a standard, room has , tea&coffee facilities, tv,Dvd player, hairdryer, fridge, trousers press, fan & a safe, bath, & a shower, there is also bath robes, The bed was very comfortable & I slept well every night, our room overlooked the cathedral, ( they don't ring the bells between 8pm& 8am) but the hotel has very good secondary glaceing, if you go by car , the hotel offer valet parking for £18.50 a day we stayed for 4days & got a set price , this is a great service , & very reasonable price, saved us time looking for parking , all in all , I would recommend this hotel , I will definitely return

« Best location in York »

Loved the location. It is literally next door to the Minster and a 5 minute cab ride from the train station. The property was lovely. Front desk staff were very pleasant and welcoming. Unfortunately the rooms are not air conditioned and it was hot during our visit. Fans were provided but were not sufficient to make the room comfortable. Of course when in York you do not want to spend any time in the room. I had drinks at the bar which was nice but did not eat so cannot comment on the breakfast or any other meals.

« Everything you could want »

Most wonderful hotel. Location right outside the huge York Minster cathedral with bells ringing songs sometimes for 30 min but not after 9 pm so could sleep well. We stayed in newly refurbished and upgraded room 11 and it was superb. Bathroom with all the expected amenities. Internet worked well. Staff were wonderful too. Would stay there again for sure.

The room had everything you could want. The staff were incredibly helpful and really friendly. They couldn't do enough for you. I happened to mention it was my husband's birthday and on the bed that afternoon there was a card and a box of fudge. Will definitely stay there again when we go back to York.

    « Excellent Location »

We stayed here two nights in June. Excellent location a short walk from the York Walls, shops, and restaurants. Steps away from York Minster. Our room was comfortable and pleasant with a sitting area by the bay window. Only downside was lack of air conditioning on warm days, which we were aware of when we booked, but a fan was provided and the room temps were comfortable at night and not too bad during the day. We bought the bed and breakfast package and enjoyed a variety of breakfast options in the restaurant with a view of the York Minster. A full English breakfast was available. Would definitely stay there again.

    « Amazing weekend »

Hotel staff were brilliant from start to finish. Probably the best location for a hotel in York (adjacent to the Minster). Great base to take in the sights and meander around the city. Superb restaurants all within a short walk, great selection of high street and independent shops on the doorstep of the hotel. The hotel stay made for an amazing weekend in the city.

    « Nothing Special »

While this hotel is a great location in York, the modern renovation of the interior has detracted from the old world charm of this historic building. The furnishings have seen better days as the bed mattress was lumpy, and the sofa, walls, and carpeting in our room was quite worn. There is no air conditioning in the guest rooms, and even with two room fans blowing at high speed, it was very warm which led to difficulty sleeping. As this hotel was renovated at some point, you would think that air conditioning would have been included. The restaurant is also nothing special with non-descript furnishings, average breakfasts, and less than enthusiastic staff. However, the restaurant is air conditioned.

« Fantastic Staff.... really Friendly porter »

This hotel is in a great location stayed over night in August & September with work. Very close to York Minster like 10 second walk. Very close to shops, bars & restaurants. About 10 minute walk to York Station. Room very comfortable and modern. Very clean and well kept room and communal area. Tea and coffee facility's with is always s bonus. Only slight niggle is no actual air con but can in the room I would recommend 100% if your staying in York.

« Lovely Hotel in central York »

Stayed here for two nights. The hotel is ideally situated next to York Minster and within easy walking distance of the Shambles and major shopping areas. You can pull up immediately outside the hotel and the staff will park/ deliver your car back to the door when required. I had a Compact Double which would be a little small for a couple, but was ideal for a single. Nice fittings and a good bathroom. The hotel has a good breakfast offer and a nice bar. Really friendly staff throughout. I would definitely stay again.

« York and stay at Dean Court »

A two night break in York on our way home a great city with lots going on and things to do even if we did get one day of rain. The Dean Court Hotel was fantastic and we were really well looked after. We had a very large room that had a great view over the Minster, and the bells did not disturb us once! We will be back.

    « Fabulous location »

We've stayed at the hotel on two occassions now and both have been excellent. We read that weekends can be very noisy if your room faces the front where there is a taxi rank, but we have been week nights only, and both times our room has been at the rear, which is perfect. The staff always seem polite and ask if they can help with directions or recomendations. The bathrooms are a little on the small side but the beds comfortable, and the breakfast really nice. Location though is what this hotel is about and you just could be in a better position. Easy walking to all the major attractions and a short stumble back after a few vinos and a nice meal.

We travelled as a treat for an overnight stay We stayed in the Langley suite which is so luxurious and overlooks the Minster Staff were wonderful and nothing was too much trouble Cars have valet parking at a small extra cost which takes that worry away . Luggage was portered up to the room check in is from 2 but we arrived at 10 and just dropped off luggage and car On check out at 11 again they kept our luggage and car till 4 so we were free to spend more time in York Also within 5 minutes walk you are in the heart of the city . Breakfast was a buffet starter cereals etc then a menu to order main breakfast The staff were very attentive and we could ask for anything There is also a 24 hour room service It was a delightful stay

    « Rubbish »

My husband and I visited as a treat for our 10th wedding anniversary. On 1st arriving, we was more than impressed at the hotel.. Lovely location, nice looking hotel and friendly, welcoming staff.. On arriving back in the evening I called room service and asked what the "desert of the day" was and the response I got was "I have no idea" I ordered anyway and when it arrived after 20minutes I asked the gentleman what the desert was, I got the same response "I don't know" (not at all friendly). Once in bed the room was like a sweet box, unbearably hot. We had a fan, but that just circulated the hot air. The room was positioned at the front of the hotel and from 12am-5pm it was like riot outside. The noise from drunk people was horrendous.. Screaming, shouting and arguing... If you want nice, peaceful get away, then I most defiantly would not recommend this hotel, unless your room is on the other side of the hotel.. ..An expensive, disappointment.

« Lovely Hotel but poor nights sleep »

We stayed at the hotel as a break for 2 nights to explore the beautiful city and sample the restaurants and bars. The hotel is ideally situated for this with a beautiful view of the Minster and within east walking distance of the sights, shops, restaurants and bars. The room was very comfortable situated at the front of the hotel, however i do agree with other reviews that the noise at night prevents a good nights sleep. There is a taxi rank over the road and as mentioned in other reviews the noise and shouting from the drunks and vagrants is very disturbing. I even requested a quiet room!! The breakfast choice is excellent and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. I would stay here again but i would book a room to the back of the hotel.

    « Great hotel/location but sleepless nights »

Visited for 3 nights and cannot fault the standard of the hotel and the extremely friendly and efficient staff. You are situated right next to the Minster which is stunning and within easy walking distance of anywhere that you might want to visit in York. Room was at front of hotel with good views but that brought a downside which I will cover later. Breakfast was very good, we did not have dinner in the hotel but if the standard was similar to the quality of breakfast I am sure it would have been good. As the location is so close to the bars and restaurants we preferred to explore and try the interesting old pubs and excellent restaurants. Having your car parked overnight was very useful, although the 'small charge' (Best Western's words) of £18.50 per night soon mounts up. So, all in all a place to be recommended. However...the downside. As I mentioned our room faced the front (not sure if there are other options). As it was very warm and the room was on the 3rd floor (no A/C) we left the window open. We were treated to the sound of the local drunks and vagrants shouting and arguing very loudly all night (yes all night). It is obviously a popular place for them to assemble at night which begs the question why was it never visited by the police. I guess that, as in our home town, it is almost impossible to spot a police presence at any time of the day or night. So... hotel comes highly recommended, overnight entertainment does not.

« Comfortable Hotel on the Minster Doorstep! »

All I can say is Thank you. A superb hotel in a super location on the doorstep of York Minster. The rooms were quiet and comfortable all be it a little warm but a fan was provided. I did not have an evening meal at the hotel so cannot comment, but, if the evening food is as good as the Kedgeree offered at breakfast then you are in for a treat. Compliments to the chef as it was lovely. All the staff were welcoming courteous and polite - Faultless and thankyou for make it a pleasant stay

    « Outstanding service. »

Just back from York and a very relaxing stay at Dean Court. Frank collected our car due to a road closure outside the hotel because of an event at the Minster. We checked in early and left our luggage at reception. Frank came to the rescue again with an air cooler for the room (it was a hot weekend). The cooked breakfast was fantastic and as someone reviewed, 'the porridge' was, probably the best in the world!!! For a balanced review I would have to agree with previous comments that the hallways and landings need decorating and re carpeting, however our room was to a high standard. All the staff are a credit to your company, polite and helpful. I have a feeling we will be seeing you again. Thanks.

    « Lovely »

We stayed here for one night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We booked a cosy double and it was just that, small and cosy but clean and exactly what we needed for our short stay in York, we even had a view of the cathedral from our windows. The location is second to none, a stones throw from the minster and the shambles and only a few minutes from the main shopping centre. We had a lovely warm welcome from the staff and really enjoyed our stay. Lovely.

« Lovely boutique hotel - ignore the 'Best Western' name »

Expectations low because of the 'Best Western' name - would have preferred to try somewhere else, but (fortunately) booked by someone else we were travelling with. Actually it is really, really nice. Fab rooms, beautifully appointed, nice touches, and all our rooms had great views of York Minster. A luxury boutique hotel, not what we expected but much better. And a perfect central location for York, right by the Minster and in the old streets, yet very quiet as it is almost a pedestrian precinct.

    « Great Location »

Well presented hotel in a great location right next to the Minster. « I miss being there! 10 stars! »

I was extremely lucky to spend 8 nights here while visiting my daughter, who is at the University of York this year. I was given a beautiful upgraded room that overlooked the Minster, and it was a joy to return to this room each day. The room was inviting, spacious and clean, with a really comfortable bed. This is a perfect location in York, central and convenient. If you are interested in York Minster, it is great to be next door. Tickets to the Minster are valid for a year, and being so close means you can drop by whenever you have a spare moment--and it is a wonderful space to spend time in. I absolutely loved hearing the Minster bells--perhaps more evident in rooms on this side in summer months with open windows. I loved them so much I made 3 video recordings on my phone, and now that I'm home I keep listening again and looking at my wonderful room (which I miss very much!). The bells did ring quite a bit, but only during the daytime; for me it added so much to the experience of staying there and was not intrusive in the least. The staff were gracious and friendly. I especially wish to mention the maitre d' in the breakfast room; he went out of his way to welcome me each day and seemed to select my table with special care, starting my day off well! I did have a little trouble with reception of the BBC channels on the TV; when I mentioned it, the same nice gentleman in the lobby who kindly insisted on taking my luggage to my room came up immediately. (Of course the TV worked when he was there, so he didn't have anything to fix, but he really tried.) I thought the breakfast was excellent; in addition to hot dishes, there was a nice array of cold items. After trying several hot breakfasts, I discovered the best porridge I have ever had in my life and had that for the rest of the stay; it was extremely creamy, presumably made with the same rich Yorkshire cream that also accompanies it in a small pitcher. How great to enjoy this while overlooking one of the great cathedrals of the world! I can't overstate how I loved this hotel and my room and the breakfasts! I hope very much that I am lucky enough to visit again.

« Excellent location and fantastic hotel stay »

A beautiful hotel with fantastic staff. We stayed for four nights at the dean court and it was a lovely break. All of the staff are superb, so helpful and nothing is too much trouble. We ended up eating in the restaurant every night as the food was of such a high standard and the service provided was excellent. We will definitely return to this hotel,it was well worth the four and a half hour drive! A big thank you to everyone at the Dean Court

    « Faultless »

My husband and I stay at the Dean Court everytime we come to York so this time was no exception. My hubby must have made the hotel aware it was my birthday as when we checked in we were given a free upgrade to one of the newly decorated suites with a birthday card, fudge and a soft drink mini bar which was lovely. The room itself was spacious with a seperate living and bedroom area and 2 tv's, immaculately clean and fresh. As the building is old there is no air con but fans are provided which do the job well. The bed was so comfortable I could have taken it home. The only negative would be the big wooden corners on the end of the bed. As there was not much room to navigate past the tv and the corner of the bed I banged my knee against it and have got a huge bruise, then again this was probably my fault walking round the room in the dark. We had breakfast in our room both mornings and this was deliciously cooked using local produce. We arrived by train but we do normally drive down. I can't understand why people complain about the £18 per night parking charge. You can arrive when you want with a guaranteed space, car gets taken away to a secure car park and brought back when you want it, even on your last day it can be left until you're ready to go home. For a city centre hotel I think it is great value! Thank you to the Dean Court for making my Birthday so special, it was fantastic. See you in November!

    « Lovely friendly hotel »

My daughter and I spent 4 nights at the Plus Dean hotel and we loved it! We stayed in a cosy double room which is quite small but very comfortable. Staff are friendly, and the hotel is based near all of the beautiful York features. The only fault I have is that for £110 per night, I think breakfast should be included.

    « Surprise birthday stay »

I've always wanted to stay in the dean court hotel after a day trip to York, in which we went for a drink in the bar. My husband surprised me with a stay over last Sunday and I wasn't disappointed one bit. The location is just the best for everything in York, the staff are so friendly and can't do enough for you. We had a double room overlooking the minster, what a view! The bed was ever so comfy and the room had all the amenities that you need for an overnight, plus tea/coffee/biscuits and a mini fridge. We didn't eat in the hotel, as we wanted to get out and about in York. We did use the valet parking though, even though you have to pay, it's such a relief that you don't have to worry about parking as York tends to be pricey for parking, but we could also leave our car there after checking out, to still see some sights. Can't say any negatives at all for this hotel and we will definitely be back soon!

    « Very best western »

An absolutely fantastic hotel. Spotlessly clean, comfortable, and with the nicest staff you could ever wish to meet. Nothing was too much trouble. They were genuinely friendly, caring and hard working, whilst maintaining a high professional standard. The food and service was worthy of any Michelin rated restraint, and outstanding value for money. Can't wait to go back!

    « Wonderful Visit »

Having had a trip on the Fabulous Flying Scotsman - we then spent the night at the Dean Court Hotel - which had been recommended to us by a friend. We arrived in York on the Sunday morning and checked in - leaving our trusty Volvo with the Concierge. We returned at 10.30pm after our trip out and the staff on reception were very welcoming - even at this late hour and showed us to our room which was the Langley Suite. The suite was amazing with a fantastic view of the minster. Breakfast was excellent. As we were having a day around York on the Monday we had arranged to leave the car for the day. We did however have an order from a supplier in Scarborough which arrived earlier than expected and the Concierge very graciously went with the supplier to our vehicle and loaded the order into our car so we could go off and enjoy our day around York. This was over and above expectations. Our visit was superb and we will definitely visit the Dean Court Hotel again and highly recommend it to all our friends.

« Best location in York »

We went to York for the first time last July. The location of this hotel is perfect if you're in York for the first time. It's just by the Cathedral, and in fact, we could see the Cathedral from our room. The room itself was very hot!! So terribly hot that we could not sleep comfortably. This is not a complaint. We understand that it was an unusual weather for Northern part of England when we were there. It was almost like in a Mediterranean country. No air conditioner on the top floor room. We did not use many facilities in the hotel as there are so many good restaurants, bars and pubs around the hotel. So, my judgement is only based on the location, and the value for money (for the price, the room facilities and amenities are more than adequate).

    5
« Great stay, best location possible! »

My husband and I had a great stay at the Best Western Plus (Dean Court). The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and I really can't imagine a better location! We were right in the middle of everything, in a beautiful historic neighborhood with lots of eating and drinking options nearby. The only negative thing I have to say is that the breakfast was not good, but given the numerous and affordable options nearby, that wasn't a huge deal. If I am ever in York again, I wouldn't even consider staying elsewhere. Highly recommended!

    « Great afternoon tea »

We booked an afternoon tea here because our hotel, Best Western Monkbar, did not serve one. There were 6 of us including 3 children and they set up a table in the restaurant especially for us. Nothing was too much trouble and the children were served what ever they wanted off the bar menu. All together it was a delightful experience and has to be one of the best afternoon teas in York.

« Great Little Hotel in the Best Location »

Stayed here for 1 night for a reunion with friends. This hotel could not have been in a better location for the bars, restaurants and shops. The hotel receptionist that checked us in was a little prickly, but once we got our keys the rest of the experience was excellent and so were the rest of the staff, particularly for the price we paid, which we thought was very reasonable. I have stayed in York many times, but this is the first time at the Best Western. Certainly not the last

The experience staying here was above excellent. From the front desk to the room. Employees were magnificent. What a wonderful place to stay. Everything and I mean everything was well thought out for the comfort and convenience for the guests.

« Great place and good location »

Went to the hotel restaurant for a 60th birthday family lunch with 20 people. It was a flawless experience. The place is clean and inviting, the staff absolutely excellent helping to make it a memorable day and the food was also a good experience. Went for a walk in York afterwards as the hotel is so close to the centre of York.

« The perfect hotel in terms of convenience »

I couldn't have asked for a more perfect hotel room for me and my mother to stay in. It had everything you could ever wanted for your stay: tea and coffee making facilities (with a good choice of biscuits delivered each day), a swanky bathroom with all mod-cons (I especially loved the blue wall tiles flecked with glitter). I had the best wash in a long time using the bath/shower facilities. Beds were very comfortable and I had a good night's sleep next to the soft cotton sheets. Great also that the hotel has Freeview TV. The windows are very church-inspired, in part due to its proximity to York Minster. We got the best view of the Minster from our window - it doesn't get any better than that - having one of Europe's largest Gothic cathedrals as the view from your hotel room. It is also the perfect base for exploring all the sights of York city centre and very conveniently located next to the National Railway Museum road train stop, which we decided to get instead of a bus or taxi to the hotel. Only thing which prevents this hotel getting five stars is the treatment we received when me and my mum wanted to dine out at the DCH restaurant. There was a private party going on and we were told to wait an hour until we could order food. Mum was also annoyed by the constant bell ringing of the Minster, but that didn't bother me at all. The café also serves good quality Yorkshire-style afternoon tea, which I loved, if a little pricey. The restaurant meals were also expensive. But our package (accommodation and breakfast included) was value for money and the breakfast menu had a good choice of cooked items, if a limited choice of buffet items. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Dean Court Hotel and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in the heart of York. It is a good base for visits to the Minster and other sights like The Shambles and other quaint 'ye-olde-worlde' shops.

    « Two night break »

The hotel is perfectly situated opposite York Minster and one of the nights included dinner which was excellent, the breakfast was also lovely and cooked to order rather than a buffet. Our room was rather small and extremely hot but very tastefully furnished and very clean. The staff were extremely friendly particularly in the restaurant and the porter who did the valet parking was on the top of his game, check in and out was very efficient with no waiting.

my mam and i booked for two nights. we valet parked the car which was well worth the money. the staff where very pleasant and more than helpful. the room was spacious and clean. the tv didn't work on arrival but we left the staff to it and it was resolved for our return. the hotel was in an excellent central location. we extended our stay an extra night and will most definitely return.

    « Great recovery! »

Our party of 9 had booked in for a special afternoon tea to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday. On arrival we were hurriedly put in the "back" room and offered the £15 tea. Thinking this was the special "tea" we continued with our order. Fortunately my wife went to the loo and saw that "Tea by gum" was also proposed. We quickly realised that we weren't getting the celebratory tea that we had hoped for and expressed our dismay to the waitress. She contacted the restaurant manager who super efficiently transferred us to the posh tea and moved us into the restaurant. This was really appreciated by the whole group and the experience was just grand. So special thanks to her for the whole experience - as I said a great recovery!!

« Lovely getaway for two! »

CONSIDERING I HAD AWFUL TOOTHACHE FOR MY ENTIRE STAY the service was absolutely top notch from start to finish, lovely welcoming staff and a very homely room and bathroom, blackout curtains were a godsend and just LOOK AT THE DESSERTS I POWERED THROUGH THE TOOTHACHE FOR THIS DELICIOUSNESS. Thank you for minding our bags when we went shopping the next day. I had toothache. Would stay over with toothache again. (thank you to the man at the bar who gave me a glass of ice just in time for MY TOOTHACHE TO DISAPPEAR AFTER I THE SEARING AGONY I PERSEVERED THROUGH WHILE TAKING MY GIRLFRIEND FOR A ROMANTIC MEAL AWAY) But seriously, great place, food, staff, location, will definitely be back with a few less teeth.

« Excellent location across the street from York Minster »

Great location. We had a view of the York Minster from our breakfast table. We had a cozy room, but the bathroom was rather large. We were there only for one night and were out and about, so that was OK. Breakfast was very good. Hotel staff was welcoming and pleasant. It was a short taxi ride from the train station. Once at the hotel, everything else was within walking distance. Would highly recommend this hotel for touring York.

    « Great location »

Great location. Next to York Minster and all the little cobble streets full of shops bars and restaurants. Staff were extremely helpful. Breakfast was good however on both occasions I had black pudding it came dry and hard. Great breakfast selection. On our final day the breakfast manager spotted my wife looking for fresh fruit and realising there was limited choice, as it was nearing close of service, he asked what she would normally have. He personally went to the kitchen and returned with fresh cut orange and a bowl of cut strawberries and banana. Great service. One slight gripe the cost of overnight parking at £18.50 per night and on asking at 9.30am for the car to be brought round for 11am we had to wait for about 15mins after checkout. Not a problem for us but I thought with the notice given we could have had car ready for us. All said and done I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting York and we would definitely return to this hotel.

    « Everything we wanted »

This hotel is maybe a 15-minute walk from the train station but once we were there it was so convenient for everything we wanted to do in York. Right across from the Minster and easy access to the city walls, Shambles and the castle and museum. Our cozy double was perfectly adequate for two people. The bathroom was a decent size. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel, or try the restaurant, but we did order sandwiches from room service late one night and they were tasty. We didn't have a view of the Minster but our room overlooking the back gardens of a neighbouring property was quiet. I would stay here again.

    « Excellent location »

Stayed 5th July to 7th July in a 'Cosy Double' Room. Room was a little small but I did book a 'cosy' room. Room was very clean and reasonably equipped. Have stayed here about 6 times previously but this was the first time I had used the hotel parking facilities and this was very good. Only problem was that on registering I was told that my booking was 'Room Only', whereas my paper work stated 'OBM Flexible Bed & Breakfast'. On querying this I was informed that my booking was in fact room only and that reception would check and let me know if this was not the case. I heard nothing further so assumed they were correct. On returning home I went through the booking process and it plainly stated that 'OBM Flexible Bed & Breakfast' did in fact include 'Bed & Breakfast'. I therefore emailed the hotel to ask for clarification and received no response, so after 7 days I again emailed the hotel. That was four days ago and I have had no response. I have noticed that posts on this site do seem to get noticed so I am posting in hope of a response !

    « Location is Everything »

And location is the selling point of this hotel since it is literally in the shadows of the Minster and it is possible to book a room with a direct view of the historic awe-inspiring facade. All was fine overall with our stay but there was no airconditioning and opening the windows meant that we were in a perfect position also to listen to the street revels of the post-race crowd on the surrounding streets. That is hardly the hotel's fault, but we also found the service quality rather patchy. However, if location is key, this is a serious contender.

    « superb location »

stayed with partner and friends over York races weekend and found the hotel to be terrific ,, we have stayed in various hotels in York over the past few years but I think this has been the best . from the moment we arrived and the car was taken by valet parking the booking in was very efficient , the staff were very friendly in the bar and breakfast room ..as for the location you walk out of the front door and the cathedral is just across the road ,, great view but has its down side at 9am on sunday morning when the bells go off but even that is forgiven.. Rooms were small but tidy and well decorated .. also like to mention that my wife left a handbag in our room and didn't realise until we got home , on contacting the hotel the staff found it an posted it back to us ,, thank you all

    « Somewhat disappointed »

We had the family room and it was shabby. It was in desperate need of a facelift and lick of paint. Shower leaked all over the floor which is why they left two towels to put in the floor. Very helpful staff at all times. The car parking is expensive. Would I return? Not so sure.

    « Excellent dining »

We arrived unnannounced for dinner and were treated admirably. A seasonal, varied menu produced a lovely meal. The braised ox cheeks, although beautifully cooked, may be an acquired taste. A chicken dish and a mushroom risotto had no issues. Chocolate fondant dessert was perfect as was white chocolate mousse. Service was friendly and efficient. The price is appropriate.

« Welcoming, comfortable in good location »

Large, comfortable bed. Large fluffy towels and good shower over a bath in a compact bathroom. Clean. Good lighting. Smallest lift I've ever been in Friendly staff which is a good welcome after a long journey. I walked from the station in about 10 minutes as travelling just for one night with a light bag. Good location opposite the Minister and right by the tourist streets. York is a city to walk around. My room was spacious with king bed, desk, 2 armchairs and a table. Tea, coffee and biscuits. Reception offered fresh milk which was brought up to my room promptly and could be kept cold in the cooler/fridge. I'm not sure if the bottles of water were free or not. Located in a quiet area but I was woken early by noisy guests leaving and the dustbin collection/road sweeper nearby was noisy even though I had my window closed. An old building so you can hear the plumbing. Excellent breakfast with fresh fruit as well as tasty, cooked food.

« Great location in York »

I came to York to visit the National Railway Museum. This hotel suited us as it is close to the railway station and museum as well as city centre. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff were courteous. WIFI worked very well. The lift is small but worked well. We did not try the breakfast. I would consider this on another visit.

« Good in the end but could have been horrific »

We booked a cosy double - at our early evening check in we commented that the top floor room was stiflingly hot and were advised to open the window wider and close curtains before we went for dinner. We did this but when we returned around 11 the room was still as hot so we called reception and asked if a cooler room was available. A larger room opposite was offered which was much cooler so we happily accepted and managed a good nights sleep with the windows open and fan on full. It was only a high of 19C outside (during the day) so hardly the height of summer. Extractor fan in the bathroom was not working and there was no window so it was very stuffy after 2 showers. Breakfast was very nice but the self service area seemed very small and cramped - it could be displayed better. Please install aircon in the rooms on the top floor - we were told the cosy rooms always get like this because they are small so it is not news to you! If we hadn't been able to swap rooms I'd have refused to sleep in the room and required a refund in full

    « Lovely hotel »

I stayed here as part of a birthday surprise off my friend, I knew nothing about where we were going or staying so when we arrived here I was very pleasantly surprised. There was a military procession in progress at the time of our arrival so the road outside the hotel was closed to the general public. The hotel told us to wait around the corner and two guest services reps came running round the corner to collect my car to take it for valet parking, top service already and we hadn't even checked in?! Check in was seamless, very friendly and amenable staff, our room was on the top floor which was small but sufficient for our needs. The only thing I will say is that it is hot on the top floor.. A fan is already plugged in ready to go so that tells you a lot about the heat levels up in the eaves so perhaps some air conditioning units might be an option in future given that we visited late June so o should imagine it becomes unbearable in the hotter months. We were located slap bang in the centre, seconds away from the shambles and the cathedral.. Just perfect and so breathtaking every time you walked outside your front door. It can't be beaten for location I would say. The hotel itself was decorated in a modern style, we never ate or drank there so I can't comment on that but if you are thinking of visiting York I would definitely recommend the best western dean court. I will return and have plans to stay here when I do!

« Great place to stay »

We have just returned from a four day break. Great situation just opposite the minster not far to walk to the Shambles and other places of interest. Friendly staff and very good selection at breakfast.Came home with a teddy to add to my collection -in a good cause Martin House Childrens Hospice.

    « A very good stay »

We spent two nights there. Its location couldn't have been better -- just across from the cathedral and right at the departure point of the little train that goes to the National Railway Museum. Our very nice room was on the top floor. It hadn't been renovated, although they were in the process of renovating the room across the hall. We had an excellent dinner one night -- shallot tarte tatin (with goat cheese), tuna on toast, and we both had braised ox cheek which was just delicious, so soft that one hardly needed a knife. It was one of the best dinners on our trip.

« My home town where i was born »

!00 % excellent we always stay when I go back to the place of my birth. Room always the one overlooking the front door of the minster. The food fantastic, the staff 110% and a four poster just piles on the romance.

The location cannot be bettered, overlooking the Minster. The service was excellent, the staff friendly and helpful and the room very comfortable. Valet car parking worked well. Expensive but worth it.

    « Fantastic Location »

This hotel is ideally situated in the centre of York across the road from York Minster. The first thing you notice is the friendly staff who were just that throughout our stay nothing was to much trouble for them. The hotel is clean and well decorated, our room was on the third floor it was a small double it was a good size with tea & coffee facilities 35" TV, the bathroom has a large corner bath with shower. The breakfast menu was excellent with a large choice of items we chose the full English breakfast which was a great choice. I would certainly go back to this hotel and would recommend it to anyone, if you are looking for a Four Star Hotel with Five Star Service then the Dean Court Hotel is for you.

    « Great Welcome - lovely hotel »

arrived after a shocking journey from Kent. Parked the car straight outside and went in to register. The welcome was very warm and they immediately offered to take the car away fro valet parking (£18.50 for 1 night a bit expensive). Rooms were quickly allocated and we were shown to our room with baggage handled by the porter. We had a lovely large double overlooking the minster - couldn't have stayed anywhere closer and all the facilities you would expect were there. The room was smart, the bed comfortable and the shower hot and powerful. There was a little chipped paint on the skirting but that doesn't spoil your stay unless really picky! After a comfortable night we went down to breakfast which was brilliant. All the usuals (juices, fruits, yoghurts, cereals) available, coffee pots brought to your table, and, unusually in hotels, our breakfast order was taken and FRESHLY cooked for us (rather than buffet) and was very tasty and quite a size! Checkout was quick and efficient - our car was brought around to the front to the hotel quickly and off we went. When visiting York again we will definitely stay here. It was very good value.

« Excellent location, excellent service »

Each and every member of staff were friendly, professional and helpful. From valet parking, reception, bar staff, breakfast staff and maintenance. All are brilliant. We looked at a variety of rooms and they differ greatly so do upgrade for more space or views. Small doubles and Suites are gorgeous but we choose the front of the hotel in room 27 with the four poster. Nice spacious room with a lovlie view of York minster. All rooms we're clean. WiFi good and free. Breakfast good. Would definitely recommend and will stay again. Thankyou all xx

    « Fantastic location »

Literally across the road from York Minster in the centre of the walled city of York. A clean well decorated and friendly hotel. Our room was a cosy, therefore small, but with all the amenities including the tea and coffee tray. The decor was very tasteful and the ensuite had a shower in the bath. The staff were both friendly and efficient. A big bonus the hotel. Will keep your luggage and car parked until 10pm on the day of departure.

« Amazing staff and location »

We stayed here recently for two nights. The hotel is right across the street from the York Minster and has amazing staff. Everybody was super friendly, greeting us everywhere we went in the hotel and asking what they could do for us. I especially want to mention Amy and Frederico at the front desk who were so helpful with arranging our two different rooms on short notice and helping us with local activities. We stayed in the 4-person family room one night with a perfect view of the Minster, and in the Holgate Suite another night with a nice view of the square in front of the hotel and a huge shower. Breakfast is served in a very cute room looking onto the Minster and consists of a buffet together with hot dishes to order. Excellent service and quality of food. I would highly recommend this establishment for anyone wanting to stay in central York.

« Amazing Helpfulness and Friendliness. »

This is a lovely hotel right next to York Minister. Unfortunately we needed air conditioning for a medical issue. The Manager, Steven Bailey, could not have been more helpful and accommodating. First he showed us an alternative room, and it was beautiful, but without the air conditioning, was still not going to work. So Mr. Bailey then found us a room (in a non-sister hotel) with air conditioning, didn't charge us for not staying our entire time, AND walked us to the new hotel carrying our luggage for us. We were stunned and so appreciative. We would definitely book again--in cooler weather.

« Hotel even better than it had been described »

Excellent hotel. There were 2 adults and 3 children. Everybody was so kind and it is a very child friendly hotel and very central. The room had a separate den for the children which they adored, also board games and a PlayStation provided in their room.We will definitely be back.

    « Great Location »

Located next to York Minster - a great location! Originally the hotel was built as a dwelling for the clergy, but is now a 4-star hotel with 37 rooms. All of York's local attractions, restaurants, shops are within easy walking distance from the hotel. The hotel's food and service was not great, just o.k., so we recommend heading into town. Room was very nice, well decorated and provided all modern amenities and comforts.

« Visited the wine bar »

Fantastic place to end an evening. Very comfortable lounge. Good wine list. Albeit a little bit expensive, but not as expensive as some hotel bars in York and fantastic location. Not eaten here but would certainly do so the next time.

« Good hotel in central location »

We booked the Spring Break which was very good value for money. The hotel is in an excellent position close to the Minster. Rooms are comfortable and kept very clean. Service in the restaurant was very efficient and friendly but the dinner menu was a bit limited, however, the food was lovely. Loads of choice for breakfast. We noticed that the carpets in the corridors could do with updating but apart from that everything was fine and we hope to be back again sometime.

« First class experience for a wedding breakfast »

My wife and I have stayed at this Hotel some 15 years ago when attending a conference in York but now an entirely different experience. It had been rather shabby but now very smart. The whole wedding breakfast was expertly handled from the Buck's Fizz on arrival to our eventual departure late in the afternoon. We were escorted to our labelled places at the table and had a first class meal chosen beforehand from a limited menu of 4 starters, 4 mains and 4 desserts which had been sent us about 3 weeks in advance. My wife and I had the same meal of prawn cocktail followed by fillet of salmon - not an exciting or adventurous choice - but it was what appealed most from the choice offered which included vegetarian and gluten-free options. A charming Head Waitress served the wines on offer and had time to have quite a discussion with me about them as I am something of a wine-freak. The Chardonnay I chose was Chilean and a little sweeter than the Chablis which I drink most frequently at home but went well with the salmon and its butter sauce. As is frequently the case nowadays the wedding cake was a sponge though beautifully decorated. I do hanker for a solid fruit cake with a thick layer of marzipan - you can keep the icing. The whole experience was highly enjoyable -a happy occasion, good food, interesting wine and above all, good company were all appreciated.

    « It's OK »

Location fantastic right next to the Minster and the valet parking was a nice touch. We didn't bother with breakfast as it was hugely overpriced. The rooms were small and a little tired with chipped paintwork and peeling wallpaper. For the price I was disappointed - 6/10

« Very nice hotel with perfect location »

Dean Court is a very nice hotel with a perfect location right across the street from the York Minster and close to all the little restaurants and shops that line the narrow streets of York. The breakfast was very good and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

    « Great evening »

Stayed one night. Single room with bath and shower. Choice of pillow types. All usual conveniences. Really convenient for city centre and comfortable to relax in. Good price and great breakfast. Very helpful staff and good service. Would definitely stay there again.

    5
« Great location and food »

This is a great hotel in a prime position near to the Minster and the Oratorian Church, however this time I was disappointed with a 'small' room at the back (23) which felt rather cramped even for a single person. The food is excellent and the staff smart and polite. I would definitely stay again but would be a bit more alert as to the room size and location.

    5
    « Service par excellance »

What can I say about the Dean Court. The location is perfect being situated as it is, within 50 metres from York Minster and in the very heart of York. We checked in at reception, and our bags were collected by 'Frankie' from our car and he showed us up to our suite. Our car was 'courtesy parked' by hotel staff and returned the following morning prior to check out. The friendliness of the staff was very refreshing, everything about the Dean Court is designed with the guest in mind. Would we come back again ?...... you can guarantee it. We give the DC 10/10

« Great location and hotel »

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel. Location is great - right across the road from York Minster and 5 mins from town centre. Room was large with comfortable bed and good clean bathroom. Breakfast was included in room charge. Cooked breakfasts that were pretty good. Parking was a bit expensive at $18.50 per day. Internet was free and worked pretty well.

« Gem in the Heart of York »

My wife and I spent two nights at this hotel in late May 2016. We loved it!. It is an attractive building, centrally located and right across the street from the Minster. It is also close to most of the sights and shopping one would want to do in York. Our "cozy" room was newly decorated and very comfortable. I had the best shower here after two weeks in England and Scotland. The interior of the hotel is attractive and comfortable. The highlight of the hotel was the staff. From check-in through check-out the staff proved attentive, caring and helpful without being over bearing. Frank and David at the front desk were super as was the young woman who hosted the dining rooms. We had a delightful stay and we would definitely stay there again.

    « Perfect location - lovely hotel. »

We have just returned from a two night stay at this lovely place and cannot fault it. Staff were unfailing polite and friendly - particularly impressed with the waiter who remembered our names from the previous mornings breakfast service. The room we had at the front of the hotel was well appointed and spacious. The bathroom was larger than some hotel rooms I have been in. The public rooms and bar area were well decorated and comfortable. We opted to have dinner in the hotel Restaurant the first evening and the meal was superb - excellent service and delicious menu with little touches that make it special like the chefs complimentary nibbles before dinner. The location of this hotel is perfect - literally across the road from the Minster and easy walking distance to the rest of the city. If you are coming by train - as we did - it was a short walk from the station. I would definitely book here should I visit this lovely city again. Thanks to all for making our stay so lovely.

« An excellent hotel with great food. »

Dean court hotel is an excellent hotel in a brilliant location. The staff are all friendly and helpful, nothing is to much trouble for them. The food is second to none with a good selection available. All food items were displayed to a high standard. The room was great, the bed was particularly comfortable. I will be definitely going back in the future.

    « Fantastic! »

We had a wonderful stay here, the staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The room was lovely with everything we could have needed, and a beautiful view of the cenotaph and minster. The valet service was fantastic as even though we checked out at 11am we could leave luggage and our car in the secure car park while we went sightseeing. We will definitely be staying again!

« This is a true hotel, not like the BW motels in the US »

I use Best Westerns in the US. They are a dependable motel chain. This is not like those. This is a true hotel with a great friendly and helpful staff. Though the building is old, the rooms are up to date. I know you're suppose to get a B&B when you go to York, and I had a reservation in one. But the reservation was cancelled, and I was in a rush to find a replacement and went with this. It turned out very well! That cancellation was fortuitous.

« Best place to stay in York »

We booked the Best Western Dean Court based on recommendations from previous guests. We were very glad that we did. First of all, the location is perfect, with views to York Minster and just steps from the ramparts, the streets of the old city, etc. The staff was very helpful and professional, and our room and bathroom were comfortable and well equipped. Would definitely stay there again.

« Home from (luxury) home! »

Our favourite UK hotel! Ideally located near to the Minster, the Shambles, many good eating places, the River Ouse and railway station....and most important to us the Theatre Royal. Dean Court staff are wonderfully helpful and friendly, the meals are excellent (particularly in their informal eating area next to the well stocked bar). Many of the rooms have been recently refurbished to a very high standard and the facilities are all that a seasoned traveller could ask for. Parking can be arranged by the hotel but York, like many cities nowadays, is best left for pedestrians and taxis - plus an excellent "Park and Ride" service. There is a taxi rank opposite to the hotel. Have a look at the DC website for further information.

« Well worth the visit for lunch »

Purchased a Groupon voucher and Visited this establishment for lunch. Ate in the restaurant, lovely view of the Minster. Lunch very enjoyable, staff friendly. Will definitely visit again. Excellent for gluten free, good choice. We have been to this establishment before but not eaten in the restaurant the other area for eating is also excellent.

« Excellent hotel but watch out for the maid!!!! »

Excellent place close to everything. The room was very confortable and clean. There was a view of the Minster which was awesome to see. The decor needs to be updated. The night staff was way nicer than the morning staff. At around 9:30 in the morning, as I was changing, the maid came in without knocking on the door. I barely had time to put on my sweather as she came in. Iasked her what she was doing and she said that she didn't know that people were inside the room. She apologized discretly and left in a hurry. When I checked out of the room, I told the cleck at the front desk about this situation and she only said ' so' to me without apologizing or anything. Too bad it ended in this manner because I would have rated my stay with a 5/5 So, if you stay at this hotel, make sure your room is double locked !!!

    « Bland »

Fantastic setting and lovely building externally but inside you could be in any modern hotel, a wasted opportunity. Breakfast good but not one ingredient is exceptional and the eggs were mediocre. You will not be unhappy but it has (had?) the potential to ake you really happy

    « Highly recommended »

A great place to stay in York, perfectly placed to explore the city. The room was comfy, clean and had all amenities you would require. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and good portion sizes. A bonus is the concierge parking service, although it did cost £18 it was very convenient considering the lack of parking at York hotels.

« Ideal central location facing the Minster. Excellent service. »

Car parked for us on arrival. Very pleasant room- no air conditioning but opening windows.Excellent Full English breakfast We did not dine in the hotel but enjoyed a very good lunch next before leaving for Nidderdale. Car was brought to the door and luggage loaded for us. Special thanks to Frank for his help

    « FANTASTIC HOTEL »

Perfectly positioned to enjoy York centre. Breakfast was excellent, rooms were a little tired but there is a refurbishment programme underway. The best thing about this hotel is the staff. They were incredibly helpful, friendly and seemed genuinely interested helping guests to enjoy their stay unlike an awful lot of hotels in the UK and beyond

    « Pleasant accommodations »

Enjoyed our two-night stay at the hotel - fantastic location across from the Minster and like most of the town within easy walking distance of restaurants, sights and the train station (a 15 minute walk). There were some nice amenities such as robes and coffee/tea and snacks in the room. It was nice to be able to make calls using our calling card without additional charge. Such was not the case with our stay at a very high end hotel in London which charged by the minute even for those toll free calls. The only drawback to our stay was a slight one... with the warm temperatures, the rooms were hot as there is no a/c.. but the fan in the room and open windows helped.

    « Superb hotel »

We (2 couples) have just enjoyed 3 nights at Dean Court my sister who was with us, has always wanted to stay so we thought we would join them, it has been lovely. We are going to be hard pressed to match it! The staff are amazing, we were met by a lovely Yorkshire (I think) young lady who could,nt have been more helpful and never stopped smiling. Our room was at the back of the hotel but was quite large, we were thrilled. Breakfast is fantastic all sorts of fruit and cereals as well as a range of cooked food. We ate in the hotel on the first night...could'nt fault it. Congratulations to Simon Murphy, his deputy manager and all the staff for being so kind and friendly. If you've never been to York before this is the hotel for you, you step out of the door and everything is in front of you....fantastic!

    « Perfectly located »

I stayed at this hotel for a weekend with a group of girlfriends. Perfectly situated across the road from York Minster and minutes from the Shambles makes it easy to go out at night and walk safely home. Also walkable to the railstation. Friendly helpful staff and a good breakfast selection plus bright clean rooms. I would stay here again.

« Great location and great service »

I travelled with my mother and my 9 year old twins to York, recently. Our stay at the Dean Court Hotel was very nice. First of all, the location can't be beat. Everything (sights, restaurants, shops) is at your doorstep. The location alone makes it worth a stay. But the service is also good reason to choose this hotel. Every staff member we met was very friendly and helpful. We always felt welcomed and appreciated as guests. I gave the hotel 5 stars despite the fact that our room was a bit tired looking. I know the hotel is in the process of renovating, but our room clearly had not been touched yet. That said, it was a clean and comfortable room. We stayed in a five person family room, which was actually a decent sized hotel room, connected to a small room with a twin bed and a bunk bed. In my opinion, this set up is ideal for families. It also had nice touches for kids, such as gaming equipment and board games in the room. All in all, I can highly recommend this hotel - particularly after renovations are complete.

    « Restaurant review »

My husband and I visited the restaurant for lunch. The staff were welcoming, efficient and friendly in manner. The location is great, close by the minster and as we were seated next to a corner window, we had a good view and were able to watch what was going on outside. The tables are sited not too close together and look elegant with spotless white linen. The meal was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I would recommend a visit.

    « excellent views »

We were lucky to get one of the 2 refurbished rooms. number 18. Decor in the bedroom was very good and the en suite bathroom was well designed. The hotel staff were very friendly and it was a nice touch to be able to leave luggage after we had checked out as we would have to carry it round for 3 hours. The picture was taken from the bedroom window so you can see that The Minster was on our doorstep. My only complaint would be the quality of the sausage at breakfast which wasn't the best. Apart from that top service and a lovely room. Not cheap but worth it as a treat

« Best location, attentive staff, great restaurant »

We booked a Minster view room - and that we got. spacious and good condition. But... it was HOT - and this was mid March in the 40's-50's f. we went to dinner, informed front desk and when we returned window was open with a small fan left on the desk. Fan was loud so left that off, and even with a chilly night with open window it was HOT all night. In the morning discussed with woman at front desk who was apparently the manager who apologized and immediately showed us a suite on other side of hotel that was huge and COOL thank god! She told us to go about our day and they would take care of moving us in which they did, and on our return we were in very comfortable accomadations. Had breakfasts included in the hotel and it's very very good food. Had great dinners in town, but had one in the hotel because we were tired and didn't want to deal with a night out. Weren't expecting much but ended up being one of the best dinners of our trip! (and we had a lot of GREAT dinners). We were worried as we were about the only people in the dining room but chalk that up to mid March I guess. Really good service and food, really do eat one meal in the hotel. we mentioned the hot room to our server and she acknowledged there were some "hot spots" in the hotel. One of the quirks of these old facilities I guess ...

« Great Stay in York »

This hotel is perfectly located right across from the Minster. Lovely redone rooms, very pleasant and helpful staff. Will definitely stay at this hotel on my next trip to York. Look forward to visiting again soon.

    « Lovely hotel »

Stayed for two nights at this hotel. The room was recently refurbished and was fantastic. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel, both of which were faultless. The staff are very helpful and pleasant, and the location is ideal. The only small negative is the taxi rank at the front of the hotel, it's a bit noisey in the small hours although this is not the hotels fault, the council could do with moving it!

    « Luscious Lunch! »

My friend and I met up for lunch and decided to try The Dean Court Hotel. We were so pleased about our decision! We chose the ' 2 courses for £15.' We both opted for the celery soup for starters - absolutely delicious Our main course we both had breast of chicken with asparagus, carrot purée, dauphinois potatoes and carrots. Again delicious. The table setting was 1st class as was the view- The Minster. The service was excellent- a young spanish lady who we thought deserves a mention! When you visit York, treat yourself to a meal at this hotel. We shall return next time we meet up.

« Fabulous stay in York »

A fabulous hotel with an amazing breakfast in a great location. Clean with friendly staff. If there is one criticism, the room was a bit small, but it was booked as a small double. Would definitely stay again

« One of my favourite hotels »

Stayed here for a 2 nights and it was a great stay. The service was some of the best I have experienced - the staff were amazing. Had room service on the first night and it arrived promptly and was nice. The breakfasts are also good - it isnt buffet (apart from fruit/croissants) but very nice. Location is brilliant and you get a nice view of the Minster if you are lucky. The rooms are pretty small, so dont spend too long in there!

    « Birthday Treat »

My wife booked this as a birthday treat and we chose this hotel because we visited 8 years ago and wanted to go back. The staff were welcoming and friendly. When we arrived, our bags were taken to our room by the concierge who helpfully explained the facilities to us. The room was lovely. Spacious and recently refurbished to a very high standard. Because it was my birthday, the staff had left a birthday card and box of fudge, which was a nice touch. There was the usual selection of tea and coffee plus free water and fizzy drinks and a cafeteria. If I had a criticism it was the cafeteria was only big enough to make one cup at a time which was a bit awkward when making for two. However, when we rang down one day to say they have forgot to leave coffee, the guy on the desk was straight up with the coffee and extra biscuits. There was an over the bath rainfall shower with plenty of pressure - too much in fact since the bath drain struggled to cope. My wife paid for breakfast. I'm not normally keen as I feel they are a rip off but this time I felt it was worth the cost. There was an a la carte menu with a good selection and food was cooked to order. There were a couple of downsides. The first, as others have pointed out, the room was a bit warm. I suspect you need to appreciate that being an old building, aircon would be difficult to put in. Secondly, our room was at the front with a lovely view of the Minster, but also opposite a taxi rank. We were woken a couple of times by drunks shouting at each other whilst getting a ride. However, neither issue would put us off returning the next time we are in York.

« Highly recommend Dean Court Hotel »

We recently spent four nights in York (returning after having been there for two nights last year) and had a very enjoyable stay at Dean Court. The location can't be beat, the staff was wonderful, and the room, though small, was well equipped and very comfortable.

    « Fabulous place »

Lovely hotel. Very central for the attractions that York has to offer. The staff at this hotel could not do enough for you, from the reception staff to the restaurant staff, first class treatment. Our room was number 27, I'm sure we were upgraded on arrival to a super four poster room over looking the Minster. Excellent room, immaculate , could not fault it. Complimentary soft drink in the fridge. Comfy bed. The manager found us a table very last minute in the restaurant for evening meal even though they were fully booked. Enjoyed a lovely meal with champagne . Again staff very attentive. Breakfast was equally top class and plentiful . I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel. We will be returning soon.

    « Anniversary weekend »

This is our second stay at the Dean Court Hotel and we find it excellent in every way. The location is perfect, right by the Minster, and no you aren't bothered by the bell ringing - the double glazing is very effective. We stayed for our anniversary weekend and had a 'standard' room with king sized bed - it was superb - if this is a 'standard' room the better class rooms must be fantastic. The staff are all very helpful and friendly - when they saw me struggling up the three steps with a walking stick and suitcase they quickly came to help. The restaurant serves a wide selection of superb meals, I had the fillet steak, cooked to my liking and because I can't eat mushrooms they made the accompanying specially without any in, my husband had the ox cheek and found it delicious. We had tea in the Court Cafe bar and this also was delicious. On any visit to York we would stay here again.

« Great location, great staff »

I took my mum to Dean Court for two nights to celebrate her 80th birthday. As other reviews mention, the location is brilliant. We enjoyed an excellent breakfast in very pleasant surroundings while gazing at York Minster. We could wander into York and pop back to the hotel for a rest before another outing, and we enjoyed excellent meals out at Bennett's and Cafe Concerto, which are on the doorstep. The staff couldn't be faulted. Frank the porter was very friendly and helpful, as were the ladies on reception, the waiters at breakfast and the lovely lady from Stirling who cleaned our rooms. When we wanted fresh milk we got two lots very promptly, and having fridges in the rooms was appreciated. A very nice touch was the birthday card and box of fudge for mum's birthday. The only reason for four stars rather than five would be the need for some improvements to the rooms. We were pleased to be given two single rooms quite close together (12 & 16) which were easily accessible by lift. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the beds were comfortable but the decor is rather tired (not the bathrooms which have been upgraded - 12 with bath and shower over and 16 with walk-in shower). We note there is an ongoing refurbishment programme so in fact this may be addressed shortly. As others have said the rooms are quite warm (though the radiators weren't on) and just outside room 16 there is a rather noisy extractor fan, presumably from the kitchen below. It doesn't get turned off till nearly midnight and is on again from about 6.30 am and this room (unlike room 12) does not have a secondary glazing panel, which would have helped to reduce the noise, so if you need quiet before midnight then this wouldn't be the room for you. This said, we very much enjoyed our stay and would certainly use the hotel again.

    « lovely stay »

We booked this hotel as it's right in the centre of York City and had disabled facilities. On arriving at the dean court hotel we were greeted by friendly staff that couldn't do enough for us. The room's where clean tidy and looked to have been refurbished so the overall look was lovely. The full English breakfast was worth having a look at and the restaurant meals looked first class. will definitely be going back to York and will be trying to book into the Dean Court again.

    « A very disappionting lunch. »

We called in (myself and my family of 5) to check out this very smart looking hotel with a view to booking a long weekend. We ordered a light lunch, and the waiter/s were very accommodating with our request to be seated near a window. The service was professional and prompt. Unfortunately however, the lunch of ham sandwiches and a roast beef panini was poor. We are not at all fussy eaters but we were unable to eat 70% of the meal. The panini was so dry and hard I could hardly bite into it, the beef was however very nice. The sandwiches were also very disappointing and were also rather dry, similar in texture to something that had be made the previous day. Overall a very disappointing introduction to what appeared to be a very smart and well run hotel. At the time I did not complain, as I didn't want to detract from what had otherwise been a very enjoyable York visit, and felt to do so would have negatively impacted on my young family.

« Disappointing given the price »

Overall this was a disappointing experience given the high room rate and the prestige which the hotel claims. Poor: Very expensive. Room small and cramped -- the size I would expect from a budget chain. A bed so high you almost needed a ladder to climb into it. Lack of storage/drawers in the room. Dreadful choice of beers. Very restricted restaurant menu with poor choices -- so poor we didn't bother. Bar food service was slow. Inability to get a light bulb replaced quickly. Room had recently been refurbished in a drab gray colour-scheme an still smelt of paint. Good: Staff friendly and mostly helpful -- one even appeared at no notice to retrieve my hearing aid from behind a radiator 10 minutes before we needed to leave for an important dinner. Fish and chips to die for. Excellent breakfast. Windows you can open. Right opposite York Minster. Very convenient for what we needed to do in York. Overall the hotel is very expensive. They are either very overpriced or seriously lacking in facilities. Probably worth half what we paid and no more.

    « Afternoon Tea »

I arranged for a small group of ladies - old girls from Dartford Girls Grammar School in Kent,-to have their annual get-together over afternoon tea at this hotel. The staff were excellent in both arranging the booking and the service on the day. The food was good and the table looked lovely with small flower arrangements. As we were able to book a room just for us and with a view of the Minster it proved to be a perfect place for our reunion.

    « Superb »

This place is a must for anyone visiting York, it's in the heart of York next to the Minster, everything is accessible, attentive staff, all of them went the extra mile for us, it was my partners birthday ( a bit of a milestone) while we were there, they brought breakfast in bed with a personal touch... A card and box of fudge, excellent service and excellent customer service will be going back again soon, loved it, go visit the minster, and museums go on you know you want to ?????? we did n will again thank you so much for a memorable stay

« Fantastic food .. Chocolate fondant ... The best I've ever tasted! »

Visited the dean court hotel mid week for a meal in there restaurant. We had a window seat with a view of york Minster . Our waitress Ania , was fab. Nothing was too much trouble . I had the haddock croquette potatoes , and my husband and daughter had chicken wings. Both lovely . The flavours from the haddock croquettes was superb. We all then chose rib eye steaks . Cooked to perfection . With hand cut chips/ tomato and creamed mushroom. Served with Diane sauce / peppercorn sauce . Then my daughter and I had chocolate fondant for dessert. (Cooking time 15 mins) but as it said on the menu .. It will be worth the wait . And it was .. It is the best chocolate fondant I have tasted . We cruise a lot . And this is a favourite dessert of mine . But this was superb. Served with honeycomb ice cream . And decorated beautifully . Compliments to the chef. 10/10 for excellent service and excellent food . Well done dean court hotel ????

    « An old favourite »

Dean Court is our default hotel when we visit York. We've tried others, including higher rated, but we always come back as it is pretty failsafe. The food is good, the staff are good, the rooms are comfortable and the hotel itself couldn't be better situated - right next to the Minster and the main shopping attractions of the city. Granted it's not the cheapest hotel available but as the old missive goes - you get what you pay for. The key factor is value and for the experience, it's pitched about right. We'll be back.

« SUPERB FOOD AND EXCELLENT SERVICE IN BEAUTIFUL SURROUNDINGS »

We had my 50th Birthday celebration meal at the Dean Court Hotel Restaurant. There were 17 guests in total. The quality of the food, friendly and efficient staff, service and surroundings (overlooking York Minster), were excellent and faultless. I would highly recommend the Dean Court Restaurant.

    « Very Pleasant »

For us, the location was excellent. Next to the Minster, of course, but in front of the large open area next to it, giving a much greater sense of space than you'd find in the town centre. We had a room on the third floor, with a partial view of the Minster, which was nice to have. The room itself was a little tired, but that didn't bother us at all. The bed was large and comfortable, which is the most important thing. We found all the staff to be extremely pleasant and helpful, and the manager(?) showing us to our room was a nice personal touch. We left our bag in early in the morning and it was waiting for us in our room when we checked in later. Breakfast was as good and wide-ranging as you'd expect, with the hot element being freshly cooked to order rather than lying on a buffet. Despite this hotel being on the edge of the centre, the old town is so small that you're only a 10-15 minute walk to the castle museum area at the opposite end, so nothing is far away. We plan to come back to York later this year and have no reason to stay anywhere else.

« Perfect location and service! »

Beautiful hotel ideally located for exploring the old york city on foot! The service was A+ and rooms just lovely. Only complaints are central heating too high making halls and rooms unbearably hot (slept with the window open in cold March weather!) and we overhead other couples complaining about this as well. Also the cooked breakfast was a bit of a let down, not very well cooked or pleasant to eat so gave up on that after our second morning attempt. All in all a pleasant hotel in a lovely location opposite York Minster.

« Great hotel and location. Tasty Breakfast »

What a lovely hotel and in a fantastic location for exploring York. Great restaurants and shops right on the doorstep as you are right next to The Shambles. Everything is on your doorstep with York Minster right next door too. Staff were friendly and courteous. The valet parking was super convenient. The breakfast was very well presented, delicious and the service was great. When we got home we had left our phone chargers behind, i telephoned and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. They posted them back the same day! I would definitely recommend and would most definitely stay again. And finally book direct with Great Western - its cheaper than going through a travel search engine.

« Romantic meal for two »

AMAZING!!!! Being a hotel, the Dean court was never somewhere we would of picked for a date night, but was highly recommended by a friend. From the second we walked through the door the staff were very welcoming, polite and courteous. Our table had a gorgeous view of the York Minster, and with a live pianist in the background it was perfect! The table service was second to none and the food was even better! We can honestly say this was the best food and restaurant we have ever been to. Thanks to the chef and all the staff

« An excellent place to stay »

Following a most enjoyable stay at this hotel over Christmas, my partner and I chose the Dean Court again for the Easter weekend which we spent in York. Staff were polite and helpful, we had a most comfortable room and the food was excellent. My partner is a little less mobile than she'd like to be and we found the hotel ideally situated for the Minster services - just across the road - and for easy access to key parts of the city centre. In fact we have already booked for another stay and are looking forward to it, I would like to take this opportunity to retract a previous negative comment I made regarding a Sunday lunch at this hotel a few years ago because it has clearly improved greatly and what I said on that occasion is no longer applicable.

    « Easter Weekend »

We stayed for two nights over the Easter weekend, arriving before lunch we thought we would drop our bags off and go for lunch then check-in. The welcome we received was so friendly and the reception staff checked to see if our room had already been prepared. It was and we were given a tour of the hotel facilities and taken to our room by Frank who personified the pleasant nature of all the staff at this hotel. The rooms are very well appointed and a good size. We stayed in room 63 and if you have a little difficulty with stairs then any of the rooms in the numbered in the 60's may cause you a problem. There is no lift access to this part of the hotel. Breakfast was very good, with a good view of the Minster thrown in. I would like to thank the staff who looked after me following a slight accident, and the kindness that was shown to me and my wife during the rest of out stay. I would stay at this hotel again if visiting York both for its location but mainly for the welcoming nature of all the staff we met.

    « Can't rate it highly enough »

We stayed here for 2 nights on 22nd & 23rd March 2016, the view of the Minster from the hotel room was fantastic. The room was very clean and had good extras, including a fruit selection, water (replenished daily) and Cola on the first day. The breakfast was very good and all the staff were helpful and very friendly. The hotel is very centrally located and all the main attractions are within walking distance - 15 minutes to the railway museum.

    « Excellent location, accommodation & staff »

Stayed early 2015 when our room was upgraded to a suite so when we booked a standard room this time we were hoping not to be disappointed. We weren't - beautiful room with huge window looking out over the front of the hotel, with the Minster to the left. Reception staff were so friendly showing us to our room, pointing out where everything was located etc. Breakfast was good but not keen on the sausages but that's just personal taste. Bar pricey but that wasn't a surprise so can't complain. We were able to leave our bags at the hotel on the day of departure for as long as we liked. A definite permanent feature on our visits to York.

    « Gorgeous Lunch »

Just been to this lovely restaurant, it's in a fab location overlooking York Minster but even better than its location is the service. Every member of staff was courteous and accommodating. We had a wheelchair user with us and they could not have been any nicer. The meal was fantastic too so would definitely highly recommend the restaurant. Thank You to all the staff.

    « Nice hotel »

Booked last minute, really good staff, nice hotel. Right outside the minster, prime location can't go wrong. If I was there longer I would like to have checked out the bar, sadly missed breakfast can't comment on the food, but beds and rooms are nice.

    « Overnight stay »

We originally booked for 2 nights Friday/Saturday but due to circumstances were forced to cancel 2nd night (Sat). Cancellation was easy and without penalty (before 4pm on day of arrival). The hotel location is superb, opposite the Minster. We were met by a friendly and efficient check-in and the arrangement to garage your car until needed is excellent since parking in York is at a premium. Didn't dine in the evening but had a good hearty breakfast on Saturday; full English for me and a buffet for the Mrs. Our room (No. 20) was of a high standard and very comfortable with a king-size bed good size bath/wet room. My only quibble, and the reason I have not given a 5 rating, was that the room was too warm for my taste and I couldn't find a thermostat. So, even in mid March with the windows open and the ubiquitous duvet I had to sleep on top of the bed. But, hey, that's just me. I prefer a cool bedroom. In summary: a very enjoyable experience and would thoroughly recommend.

    5
    « Morning Coffee »

Went in here for morning coffee on Saturday morning. Next door neighbour to the Minster but a haven of calm. Beautifully furnished and nice and warm. Good coffee and excellent service. Open to non-residents, newspapers to read and excellent toilet facilities. So nice will look at staying here on a future trip as would be well worth the extra cost.

« Excellent location, excellent staff »

My wife and I stayed here for a short break in York in March 2016. We were looking for a hotel near all the major attractions, with parking and at a reasonable price. Dean Court was perfect. It is an AA 4* hotel and as you'd expect, all the usual 4* facilities are available. What made this hotel stand out was its location and the staff. You are right next to York Minster, about 1 minute from the Shambles, about 3 minutes from an entrance to walk the wall. The staff were genuinely pleased to help you and were very friendly - both at reception and in the restaurant. We only had breakfast at the hotel so cannot comment on the other meals but the breakfast was excellent. The restaurant overlooks the Minster and if you get a window seat you get an excellent view. For parking, the hotel provides a free valet service...just park initially right outside the hotel and go in and register, the staff will take your car to the car park for you. Our room was a standard double, which was a good size, with the usual 4* facilities. Overall, I would happily recommend this hotel.

    4
« Lovely hotel - suites are fab!!! »

Stayed as a couple in one of the suites overlooking the Minster - wow, what a great hotel. I'm not sure about the other rooms but ours was wonderful with a great four poster bed and was nice and large. Service was great and the hotel was extremely clean. We didn't eat at the hotel so I can't comment on the food.

« Good quality hotel in the best location in York »

Have stayed here many times over the years and recently returned after a gap of some years. Probably the best location for any hotel in York.As the pictures show you are just across the road from the Minster and stepping out of the hotel you find you are immediately amongst the shops restaurants and sights of this of this delightful historic city with everything in walking distance. Car parking is a problem for hotels in York.Dean Court's answer is to provide valet parking which is efficient and courteous but adds £18.50 per24 hrs of your stay. This is said to be slightly less than the public car parking which has the disadvantage of being some distance away and insecure. The hotel's valet parking is said to be secure and must be fairly close as the "valet" takes about10 minutes to reappear with your car. The hotel is well appointed, the rooms are comfortable and are in the process of being improved. Many of the rooms face the Minster. The minster bells are not intrusive, however.Staff are professional ,seem well trained and were courteous , smiling and attentive in manner. On this occasion we only had breakfast at the hotel. We found I it to be of good standard and pleasantly presented.Having breakfast whilst viewing the city building up it's momentum outside is very pleasurable from the windows of the slightly elevated position of the dining room. Will continue to return ! Disadvantages? Only that it gets rather more expensive in the "season"

« Great staff and location »

Had a great weekend break here and overall we had a good time. The staff are amazing, very attentive and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is in a fabulous location for exploring York with loads of excellent cafes, restaurants, pubs and shops virtually on the doorstep. The car parking service is excellent, they allow you to check out, leave your luggage and go off for the day. When you are ready to go home just go back to the hotel and they bring the car back from wherever it`s been parked and off you go. The only negative we have is that the room we were in is ready for a make-over, it was lovely and clean but a little tired looking. It needs some modernisation. Oh almost forgot, the lift squeaks, which was a minor problem at nightime for my wife who still has good hearing

    « A Fantastic Hotel !! »

Stayed for two nights here and would like to recommend to anyone potentially thinking of using it. A friendly welcome , a fantastic room with a view of the Minster and an excellent breakfast both days. Location is superb being right opposite the Minster , the staff are very welcoming and friendly and there was no faults whatsoever with our stay. Recommended !!

« Great location and facilities »

Right opposite the Minster, this hotel couldn't be better located. My room was small but had all the facilities one would want and expect in a hotel of this quality. Breakfast was very good and the staff enormously helpful (I had to rush to A and E due to an accident with my eye and they phoned for me). I didn't particularly like the decor downstairs and the coffee was expensive and not great, but otherwise a very comfortable stay.

« Even better "great experience" »

Met friends from the North East and decided to stay over night with breakfast, we tend to do this a couple of times per year. The best hotel experience I have had in YORK. The porter parked our car, checkin was easy quick and so friendly and Leah was outstanding. The room was big and airy with the most comfy bed and a great choice of pillows, an enormous bathroom with a bath and LOTS of hot water. Breakfast next day was so special, sat in the window overlooking the Minster no hustle and bustle just superb service. Many choices I had Kedgeree even better than the one I make. Staff very helpful but not obsequies.

« Lovely Hotel in a Great Location »

Enjoyed our stay at this lovely hotel right next to York Minster. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Valet car parking service on arrival and departure which is quite a plus in busy York. The room was small but nicely decorated and clean with everything you could need. The breakfast was very nice with lots of choice and the breakfast room itself had lovely views of the Minster. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

« Lovely hotel in great location. »

Lovely hotel right next to York Minster. Attractive rooms and helpful and friendly staff. Beautiful views of the minster from the breakfast room. We had at first thought the £18 parking charge for an overnight stay was a bit on the high side but this including valet parking and we were able to leave the car there from 11am on the day of arrival until 10pm the next day so definitely worth it.

    « Superb Hotel »

Visited York recently and decided to stay inside the city walls this time around as we usually stay a little further away. Picked the Dean Court Hotel and we weren't disappointed. Amazing location, literally facing the Minster. Hotel is beautiful, inside and out. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. We arrived early and staff took care of our case while we headed out for lunch. When we eventually checked in, our case was waiting for us in our room. We stayed in a double room and it was amazing. Lovely and clean, spacious and comfortable. Ordered a room service breakfast the next morning which was on time and delicious! We will definitely be staying here again the next time we visit York and would recommend the Dean Court Hotel to anyone!

    « A friendly and efficient hotel »

I would recommend this hotel. The staff are friendly and courteous and the service was good despite pressure at the weekend. It is situated very close to the Minster and all the old parts of the city.

    « Mothers Day Lunch »

Decided to treat my mother (and father) along with my sister and her mother-in-law to a Mothers Day Lunch at the Dean Court Hotel in York. Made extremely welcome on arrival and had a pre lunch drink. Then taken to table for the menu which offered an excellent choice and value. 3 course meal and coffee represented great value. Nice added bit was a gift for the 3 mothers present which was a nice touch. Highly recommend the restaurant. Great food, staff were excellent and a great view of York Minster whilst eating.

    « Wonderful View. »

We stayed here as a Mothers Day treat, as I work Sundays we arrived Friday. Brilliant location right in the heart of York and next door to the Cathedral. In fact the view from our room was the front of the Cathedral. Lovely room, with so much attention to detail, such as an umbrella in the wardrobe in case of rain, dvd player and you can hire dvd's, but hay if you are taking children to stay pack some of their favourite movies too. Postcards for you to send to relatives, feathered pillows etc.. The best nights sleep I've had in a hotel, due to comfy bed and pillows. Lovely staff and well run hotel, we would defiantly recommend this hotel and look forward to returning in the future,

    « Great location »

Stayed for a couple of nights with my young son. The location is super, within easy walking distance of everything. Our room was clean, quiet and comfortable, if a little tired. Could not complain about the super view from both the bedroom and the bathroom. Staff were all friendly and check-in was quick. Would return if ever in York again.

    5
    « Boutique-like hotel »

This must rate among one of the best hotels I have visited. Great attention to detail, superb location, brilliant customer service, well presented and delicious food and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were a little small, but it was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Highly recommended!!

« Great stay, friendly staff, would definitely return. »

We stayed at the Dean Court Hotel with friends for two nights at the end of February. I honestly could not fault anything about our stay. We phoned from the car when we were about 10 minutes away, so we're greeted when we arrive and our car is taken away for us to a nearby car park. The room was clean and tidy, the bathroom especially so. Breakfast was very good, the usual cooked options with cereal, toast in addition and service was both friendly and prompt on both mornings. The location, right opposite the stunning Minster, serves as a great base to explore the City and a great marker when you want to get back later in the day. Overall, very happy with our experience of the Dean Court, and would definitely recommend.

    « Fabulous City Break »

Myself and my husband with 4 other friends have just returned from a really great weekend spent in York. The hotel was lovely, very clean, we had a small double standard room which had everything we needed as we didn't intend to spend our time in the room. The staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble. The location was perfect, close to everything, looking at the Minster while eating great food was fabulous and very easy to get to from the train station. Will definitely go again.

« Great location, room disappointing. »

This hotel has probably the best location in York, right outside the Minster and close by to all the amenities. We had a fantastic experience from when we arrived, we left the car on the front & it was took away for valet parking for the night for £18. Once checked in we were helped up to our room by one of the staff, whom was very polite. The only let down was the room in itself, which was very small & had a small bed to match. It were clean, but could do with updating. All in all a fab experience, but for the price, I would of expected the room to be a bit more up to date with the times.

« First visit but won't be the last. »

Having a young family we decided to book a family room in York as a little half term treat for the boys. We only live 55 miles from York so it seemed a good place to try out to see if it worked. From the moment we arrived we were extremely well looked after by the staff who made a proper fuss over the kids and couldn't be more helpful. We arrived at 11am so it was too early to check in however the staff put all our bags and cases into the secure storage and drove the car round to the carpark which was 10 mins away. This itself was superb as we could set off into the city and explore knowing everything was ready for us when we got back. When we arrived back after a good old walk around we were shown to the room and all our bags were already in the cupboards etc. Very detailed explanation what was available to us and what times the restaurant and bars were open. We headed down for dinner and the meals were excellent. Especially the kids meals which went down a treat. Come the morning the breakfast was superb. The items on offer was very very good and the service was great. On check out we were allowed to leave our bags whilst we spent the rest of the day exploring. We returned at 3:30 and the staff recovered our car and put all the bags in it for us. All in all a very very pleasant stay. The kids absolutely loved the visit and we are already getting asked when we are going back. Oh and the view from the room was possibly one of the best I've had in the many hotels I've stayed in Many many thanks

« Dean Court Hotel - better than expected »

Would recommend this hotel to anyone, from walking in the staff cannot do enough for you, friendly and helpful - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back. Very welcoming hotel, in a fabulous location.

« 4.5 out of 5 and excellent yet again »

I've stayed at this hotel many times over the past 25 years (as I come to York regularly to visit family). I've used it as a solo traveller, in a couple and now with a child using the family rooms. I've stayed at several other local hotels, but this is my/our favourite by far. Why? Because the staff are exemplary, the rooms are comfortable, the food is delicious, the location is brilliant for exploring the city and the valet parking is massive bonus. The only reason it doesn't get 5/5 is because my daughter didn't think the sofa bed she had this time was very comfortable (and now she's a little older and heavier, she's probably right). But I'm sure there are family rooms with proper beds too.

    5
    « Back again »

Great hotel, great location, can't say how many times we have been here, but it's quite a few, wouldn't stay anywhere else. Last year the room was quite noisy, this year the room was probably the smallest we have had and not the nicest, but it was quiet. Breakfast and service excellent. Great to see the same friendly faces on reception and the porter.

« Great Location, Good Hotel »

Stayed here for a mid week break and received a warm welcome on arrival. Our room was somewhat small, although adequate, but the view out to the Minster more than made up for this. The room was well appointed and clean, as was the bathroom. Breakfast was of a good standard. The hotel is excellently placed for exploring York on foot, so upon arrival we had the car valet parked until our departure. Plenty of choice for pubs, restaurants and cafes nearby.

« Good hotel, great location »

After deliberating over all the possible hotels in the York area, eventually decided on this one. Very close to the centre and reasonably priced. What a complete find. Just on the edge of the main part of town but with all the attractions in easy walking distance. Very modern downstairs and all the staff are very friendly. We had a family room which is not huge but perfectly adequate for a family of four. Very clean and the kids get a wee den/room of their own with a bunk bed and single bed. Breakfast was great. Very good service and all the food was lovely.

« As a place to get your head down - thumbs up »

Hotel is very nicely decorated and in a great location. Rooms, staff, breakfast and bar were top class and valet parking was a real bonus. Negatives would be - dinner (tasty but small portions), lift (bit like the dinner portions far too small) & room was unbearably hot at night. We followed the instructions and turned radiator down but it was still belting out heat so had to leave window open all night. I would say we didn't mention this to staff so perhaps didn't help ourselves.

    5
« Fab Hotel - simple as that! »

Stayed overnight 08/02/15 with my husband for a celebration. Booked deluxe room & thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience! The staff were helpful & pleasant, the room (22) had everything we needed. The dinner on the evening was super, we chose the steak & it was lovely, the staff were very efficient and polite. At breakfast the same lovely staff served up a very tasty breakfast Can only say good things about this place - bit like York itself!!

« Great location, great views, great staff, good food. Just brilliant »

Arrived at the hotel at 1-20pm. Room not ready till 200pm as stated but the staff were happy to take our luggage. On return we had a personal tour of the hotel. We were shown where the bars were, the dining room, breakfast times etc.explained. We were then show to our room and again, everything shown to us. Possibly a bit obvious for some bits, but nevertheless great hospitality. Our cases were in our room for us. The staff could not do enough for us. Free bottles of water in the fridge and told if we wanted fresh milk etc we only had to ask. Free wi-fi code in the room. Breakfast was very good, large choice of everything, especailly fresh fruit. Again great service by the staff. Had a full english breakfast. Everything hot, fresh and good quality Only comment was cold baked beans. This hotel is in a great location. You couldn't get closer to York Minster. After checking out we left our cases until later in the day. Before we left we commented how good the hotel was and was shown two of the brand new refurbished rooms/suites. They are amazing. Perfect for any occasion where you would like something specail especailly anniversaries or weddings. All in all a brilliant hotel.

« Perfect location for York Minster »

I booked this hotel for a weekend away with my wife. The location is absolutely perfect for all of Yorks central attractions and is literally facing York Minster. There is a valet service for parking your car for the duration of your stay, which isn't cheap, but works very well and the facilities are great. Breakfast was very good with all the usual options for a British/Continental taste. We had exceptionally good service from a young barman/waiter called Pablo. He gave us tips for local restaurants and bars and was a charming and very nice fellow. All in all, a great hotel and if we visit York again we will definitely book this hotel.

    « Superb hotel »

Stayed in the best western plus hotel as part of our mini moon. We booked through booking.com The price was extremely competitive. The room was very nice and clean, fresh towels and tea and coffee daily, we were in room 61, We over looked the Minster and the bells could be heard during the day. Very pleasant. Some reviews have said that it can be noisy, but we both had a very relaxing sleep. The staff were extremely helpful and the breakfasts were delicious with plenty of choice. The hotel is right in the centre of York with easy access to all the shops. We would definitely stay there again without a doubt.

« Perfect location, but pricey parking »

This is a good hotel that could be grand, its in the shadows of the minster and easy walking of everything in town. The restaurant could be excellent, just lacks some life, breakfast was good. Internet not fantastic but OK, parking is extortionate at £18 a night, staff advise you not to park outside even though its free 6.00pm til 08.00am, they will park and return for you, of course they will at £18!! OK , York is expensive and without the parking this is a nice stay.

    « AWESOME! »

Chose this hotel as we wanted something a little bit special and also close to the minster - we were certainly not disappointed! We walked from York railway station and it only took us 10-15 minutes. The entrance was almost opposite the main entrance to the Minster so we couldn't get any closer than that! Check in was fast and efficient. We had a fabulous, extremely comfortable four-poster bed (Room 22) - the room was large and also included a complimentary box of fudge, bowl of fruit and water and soft drinks in the refrigerator. There were also bath robes and slippers available in the wardrobe along with an umberella which thankfully we didn't need to use. There was also a lovely sofa area infront of the large TV and DVD player which was nice to use relaxing before bed. There was some noise from the street outside with people laughing and singing late at night but with the double glazed window shut it couldnt be heard. We actually opened the window on Sunday morning to hear the bells from the Minster ring! Breakfast was cooked to order and served lovely and hot. Would thoroughly recommend staying here.

« Disgraceful way to treat a customer. Never again. »

One of the worst night of my life. I was given a room that it is unsuitable for accommodation. Although in my booking I had specifically asked, for health reasons, for an upper floor room where I could open the window, I was presented with a very small room overlooking other walls, on what appeared to be the rooftop of the kitchen, various kitchen vents right in front of the window that could open only for a small portion. The room nr. 12 was suffocatingly hot, the member of staff who accompanied me there switched off the radiators saying that the excessive warmth was due to that. That was not true. All through the night the temperature in the room was unbearably hot and the heat was coming from the floor too. When late in the evening I went downstairs to complain, the only things I was offered were some water and the aid to come up and switch off the radiators, things that had already been done. In the morning when I checked out, there were three members of staff, two very young and one middle age man who could have well been the manager. A very young lady, obviously not trained to deal with an unhappy customer received my complaints with only a "I'm sorry" without even looking at me. The two other members left her alone and disappeared. To complete the terrible experience the breakfast was poor, the coffe was disgusting, the restaurant manager was not impeccable, clothing not fresh and hair not clean. Pity, great location, the hotel would be lovely with another management.

    « Great hotel & location »

Arrived 5pm Friday great Central location right next to minster. Valet parking So car taken care off which was around £18 for the night. Room 62 very clean and tidy and with separate bedroom for our 3 girls (all under 10) with 2 Tvs in their room and a PlayStation. Nice small hotel bar and all staff very attentive. Next visit to York will definitely consider this hotel again.

    « Disappointing »

We visited the cafe bistro late on a Saturday afternoon. The waitress was very friendly and seated us straightaway, however, both the waiter and waitress disappeared and we waited for almost 15 minutes to be served but nobody came. Unable to attract anyone's attention, despite the fact that they were not busy, we had no alternative but to leave. Very disappointing since we've been here before and usually enjoyed.

« Fantastic service at Dean Court »

We stayed at this hotel on 20/21st January 16. There was a large group of us celebrating my Aunts 80th birthday. The staff went out of their way to welcome us, nothing was too much trouble for them and they were so friendly and welcoming. Check in was extremely smooth, even offered Valet parking of our cars! The hotel was ideally situated in the centre of York with beautiful views of the Minster. The rooms and beds spacious and extremely comfortable, if anything a little too warm!! All the staff were approachable and happy to help. Breakfast was excellent with a very large choice, whilst we did not have time to try the restaurant the menu looked delicious. We were particularly impressed with Pablo, who is a member of staff, he went out of his way to personally take care of us, was very friendly, and made our stay very enjoyable. If anyone Senior from the Dean court reads this please pass on our personal thanks to Pablo. Would definitely recommend staying here again.

    « great stay »

We stayed for one night as an after christmas getaway. we had a lovely time in a very pleasant hotel, where the room was lovely and the staff were great. We didn't have an evening meal but we had breakfast which was good. The waiter happily provided us with a different juice than one which was out when he heard us talking to each other and saying that we would have preferred pineapple rather than what was on offer. The room was a great size, warm and comfortable all made for a lovely stay and a comfy nights sleep

    « Weekend Treat »

Great location opposite the Minster and lovely friendly staff. Valet car parking made for a stress free start and a few special surprise touches were added for my wife's birthday which really made for a memorable visit. Thanks to all the staff and we look forward to stopping again ??

    « Outstanding! »

I visited here with three friends and booked 2 twin rooms via booking.com. we arrived and were given rooms 28 and 40. the rooms are beautifully clean with tea and coffee making facilities, a hairdryer, toiletries and an iron/ironing board. room 28 has the most amazing view of the minster in the whole of York. the breakfast is a buffet for the cold items and then table service for the hot. the staff are wonderfully friendly and efficient. this is a great hotel......enjoy!!

« Excellent for disabled guests »

I stayed here with my grandma for her 90th birthday treat. She's not very mobile or steady on her feet but her room was perfect for her and they kindly upgraded me to be in a room nearer to hers. The wider hotel is also very disabled friendly and the staff were exceptionally friendly. The breakfast was amazing and we were spoils for choice. The decor of the hotel and my double room was also very nice. The location was also perfect for a short city break, with immediate access to the cathedral and the lanes just a few stops further. I definitely recommend and hope to be back soon!

« Made our Golden Wedding a time to remember! »

We held our 50th wedding anniversary celebratory meal in the "Ellen Best "dining room. 14 of us sat down to a beautiful luncheon. The service was attentive..but not intrusive and the food was very well cooked and beautifully presented. Prior to the actual meal we had had excellent co-operation from 'Erin' (events manager) and her staff, co-ordinating with the chef about our menu choices. It was a pleasure to arrange the celebration, rather than a 'hassle',as a result of all the help we received. We thoroughly recommend the restaurant and will hopefully return.

« Short stay in York close to York Minster »

The hotel is ideally placed for visiting York Minster and the older shopping area. Staff were friendly and helpful, whilst being professional throughout. Food well presented, with choice from snacks to restaurant. Overall, a very happy experience

    « Lovely Stay »

Lovely hotel. Rooms contain everything needed good size TV, complementary water in fridge, tea and coffee, WiFi and a glorious corner bath with shower. « Great service, lovely location »

Absolutely delightful room- beautifully furnished. We stayed in one of the suites, had help with our luggage and valet parking is reasonably priced and convenient. Reception called to check if all was OK about 10min after settling in which was a thoughtful touch- we received a very informative guide & map booklet upon arrival and they are very happy to help you with restaurant bookings, locating services, etc. Breakfast has a beautiful view to York Minster and is delicious- self serve cereals, fruit & pastries, then order a hot breakfast from the menu (vegetarian friendly with veg sausages and bacon!). Great location- easy walking distance to many attractions and it's just a lovely part of town facing the Minster & hearing the bells. Magical stay!

    « Excellent hotel! »

The best location in York, everything you need in the room, very good staff, fantastic breakfast... We were very glad to stay in this hotel. It's located in the center of the city, close to all attractions. The room was very good, containing all what you need, the breakfast was excellent, and the staff very friendly.

    « A Perfect start to Xmas »

Located 50 metres from the Entrance to York Minster this hotel must have the best location in this beautiful city,we stayed in a recently refurbished room and having stayed here last year in a similar room they have really pushed the boat out on the decor which I found to be very tasteful. Breakfasts were excellent with a wide choice to be had from the ever present, friendly and attentative staff. My only slight critisism is that the Hotel was a little too warm and stuffy although that was soon cured by opening the bedroom window slightly, maybe could benefit from installing an up to date AC system, but all in all a great stay and a wonderful start to the festive season, will definitly be booking for next year.

    « An excellent hotel »

I don't normally write reviews but we had such a great experience at The Dean Court Hotel I felt I owed it to them to share our experience. The hotel is one of the friendliest hotels we have ever stayed in. Nothing was too much trouble. It is in an excellent location right outside the Minster which was great for our New Year break. Everything including shops museums etc are within easy reach. The hotel offers great food and comfortable rooms. We booked 2 standard/doubles and were allocated rooms 42 and 52 which were very roomy, exceptionally clean with large bathrooms and really comfy beds. Although the hotel is set on a wide 'no through' road the only traffic you really get is taxis to and from the taxi rank opposite. As we stayed over New Year the only night we noticed or heard anything from the taxi rank was New Years Eve where, as you would expect, there was a huge queue but we didn't hear too much noise as the road is so wide. We would have no hesitation in staying or recommending this hotel to anyone who wants a break in York. Perfect.

    « Memorable »

My husband , a Yorkshire man, gave me a surprise treat, by driving us 5 hours north, to York, with a 2 night stay at Deans Court, as a New Years gift. I was told that dinner on the 31st. December would be a 'black tie event. What an excellent hotel, friendly welcoming staff, and a superb New Year's Eve 5 course meal, where the Chef did us proud. Before the meal we were offered champagne cocktails and canapés, and after, there was a disco which provided music for the older set, probably we ourselves were the older end of the 60 or so attending, we so enjoyed the evening, which was interrupted at midnight by standing on the hotel steps and joining in with a crowd which we were told was an estimated 3'000 to welcome in 2016. Our room was memorable, facing the York Minster, an imposing edifice which it is important to visit. York is truly a great city, and we thank all the hotel staff for making our stay such a memorable time.

« V Friendly and Good Hotel Right By York Minster »

This has been one of the best hotels in York since I grew up there in the 1960's, if not before. Now when I return to York, it's where I stay. It is in the heart of the city, next to the Minster (cathedral), and a short walk from all the shops, museums, galleries, theatres, cafes and pubs. Don't worry, the chimes of the Minster clock stop at night. It's a short taxi ride from York station, but allow plenty of time when booking a taxi to catch a train, as the traffic can be very slow. The rooms are well equipped, but it's an old building and they're a correspondingly small size. Some are very hot and you need to open the window. There are two lifts (elevators), one of which only takes one person plus bag. The other is fine. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. Not all the bar staff know their cocktails, so if you are particular about how it's made, don't be shy to explain. You might imagine in a tourist city that the good restaurants would be in the streets and no one would use a hotel restaurant, but the Dean Court's restaurant is one of the best. Interesting menu, excellent local produce, good selection of wine, nice service. York is an ideal place to break a journey, but you can't book at the Dean Court (or any other big York hotel) a long time in advance for just a single night at the weekend. The secret is to wait till the week of your journey and then see if they can do a single night. But there's so much to do in York that you really should stay all weekend.

    « Happy Birthday Billy »

It was our grandson's 7th Birthday on Tuesday. After an outstanding performance of Dick Whittington - produced and performed as as Dame by Berwick Caley at the Railway Museum(The Grand Theatre's temporary home during renovations) we were taken to Dean Court Hotel by our son Charles and our wonderful daughter-in-law Janette. With a very special cake delivered from Betty's and a superb meal at the hotel we wished Billy a very happy birthday. The staff at the hotel were so friendly and kind allowing us to bring in the chocolate Birthday cake as our dessert and serving a most delicious meal- enjoyed by all - but most importantly by the children. nothing was to much trouble - my husband even got a portion of garden peas which were not on the menu! Thank you all at Dean Court. ...And a swift and smooth rail trip back to Huddersfield to finish off a perfect day.

    « Fantastic Christmas break! »

Just got back from a wonderful three night stay over Christmas. We took my husband's elderly mother and the staff were very attentive towards her and indeed to us. We have rarely experienced such friendly and efficient staff. We were given a table facing the Minster and our room, no 27 , had the same fabulous view . This room is in line for quite extensive refurbishment in 2016 and it is a little tired and dull, but very large and comfortable with a large array of facilities, including an ironing board. There were also lots of treats in the room on our arrival, which were very much appreciated. If I had to say anything slightly negative, I would have liked to have seen more festive decorations and fairy lights. There were none in the bar area and some parts of the dining room looked a bit austere, but this is a very minor criticism . We would definitely stay here again.

    « We loved our visit ! »

This was the first time my husband and I have left the children and had a couple if days away. The hotel was superb from arriving. Luggage can be left before the room was ready and the barman was really friendly. The room was beautiful. Room 15 overlooking the Minster and great views. The restaurant was beautiful and the staff attentive throughout. The breakfast wow!!!best eggs Benedicts ever. Everything was amazing. We will be back. Thanks to everyone.

    « Christmas don't! »

Went here for our work 'Christmas do' one Saturday night in early December. We arrived at 7:15 and were lead straight to our table. Although we were still waiting for 3 people to arrive, no sooner had we sat down, and they started to bring out our starters. It would have been nice to get settled, have the whole of our arrive and be asked if we would like a drink first! When we asked if we could order some drinks we were told " in a minute"!!! I shared a bottle of wine, which once we had had one glass, the bottle was knocked over by the waitress.....she attentively cleaned up the mess though, but no gesture was made to replace the lost wine. The food was satisfactory, not much time to rest between courses, as soon as one course was finished the next was out. The meal was finished off with coffee and then when we had finished that some mince pies were brought out! I just thought the whole thing lacked any attention to detail. We felt rushed.

    « Beautiful York »

Lovely Hotel, excellent location right in the heart of York. Staff were helpful & friendly, room was spacious, clean & breakfast was good. Would stay again. Quite pricey but standard price for York. Was quite noisy till 12pm as there were Xmas parties being held in Hotel - to be expected for this time of year.

« Best Western Plus Dean Court Hotel, York »

I have selected 'Solo' as my type of visit but it was a combination of 'Work Social' and 'Solo' as I was here for my work's Christmas meal with 11 colleahues in the afternoon of 17th December and I'd also booked in to stay the night. I am so impressed with the staff, the comfort and cleanliness of the hotel and the food was delicious. It is in the York City Centre, only metres away from the Minster, so it is very cinvenient for the tourist attractions - not forgetting get the great shopping. I am planning my next stay for this hotel. I have no hesitation in giving this a 'highly recommended' status.

Great food and service, well looked after, we were a large party and this caused no problem for the professional staff. Fantastic view of York minster from the dining room, clean and good facilities. Parking is always a problem in York so get advice on nearest and cheapest places.

Having spent a night at the Dean Court we were pleasantly surprised to find a very clean Hotel where the food service and staff were to a very high standard. Wish the Hotel and Self Catering industry in Padstow and North Cornwall could take a leaf out of their book instead of adopting a take it or leave it attitude. Once again, well done to all at the Dean Court.

« Disappointed at room / experience for price »

Very disappointed to write a poor review but we have been to the Deane Court for three consecutive years and this year was poor. The room was tiny for £200 per night and felt cramped claustrophobic! The bathroom was small and the fan extremely noisy ! Room was so hot and windows needed to be open all night as even with radiators off it was tropical (r24) which considering there Was a taxi rank opposite was not ideal In previous years are room has been much bigger ! The breakfast too was not as good as in previous years. The fruit selection was tiny and I had to queue begins 4 others to serve myself. Sausages were tasteless and black pudding bland. When we have been before food has been delicious and it felt as though suppliers had been changed to our detriment ?? On top of this there was a farmers market tent erected outside our room on the sat and this meant we were awake from 6am ! Because of steel scaffolding being thrown around and shouting ! Bar staff didn't seem to know what they were doing and I feel so disappointed ! We now have to decide what to do for next year but when you save £400 for a special trip sadly this didn't deliver this year ??

« Trip to Christmas markets »

I regularly visit York throughout the year and this was my first stay at dean court. For me the hotel just gets 5/5 from me! The staff are fantastic especially the lady that checked us in at reception, they help with bags, show you around the hotel and to your room and the valet parking is also most helpful! The room itself (standard double) is enough for a short stay, it was clean and the bed comfortable. I would say the bedroom itself needs a little update but nothing major. The view from the room was nice. The free wi fi is also very good. Breakfast was lovely yet again the staff excellent and the food lovely. Checking out was easy the hotel more than happy to keep your bags and car why you make the most of your departure day! When you look at the prices of hotels in York I do think this hotel offers very good value for money! I would most definitely stay again!

    « A hotel of 2 halves »

We stayed for one night to meet friends and to visit the Christmas markets. In relation to the hotel side of it, we award one star. The corridors and our room are scruffy and the decor is at least 30 years old. Our room was very tired and none of the furniture matched and looked like a charity shop had supplied it. Not worth £180 a night - ever. We had lunch in the restaurant, which was like being in a totally different hotel. We would award the restaurant 4 stars. The menu was small but had enough choice and the quality of the food was very high. The views of the Minster make it a top location. An excellent restaurant in the evening and also for breakfast, which was also superb. They are resting on their laurels here due it's fantastic location, but is in severe need of updating and investment. It sells itself as a flagship hotel, but it does not live up to that billing.

« Great staff, great location and great food »

We had our wedding meal in the Ellenbest room at the Dean Court Hotel which was just right for us and our wedding guests, food was great, service was great, staff were brilliant and no request was too much. All Managers and Staff were very friendly, accommodating and helpful resulting in a great atmosphere thus making our wedding day very special. Thank you Dean Court you have lived up to our expectations once again.

« Great Location, rooms need updating »

We have stayed at DCH several times but more recently defected to Cedar Court Grand which although not as well located has superior accommodation. The staff at DCH are lovely and very friendly. Restaurant staff are accommodating and very pleasant. Location is perfect but the rooms are a little tired now and could benefit from an update. The bathrooms in some rooms are tiny and one bugbear is that there is nowhere to put spongebags or toiletries in the bathroom. Overall a pleasant stay, but the price point suggests a higher level of accommodation than is currently provided.

    « Very convenient »

Excellent location, very good restaurant, hard working and friendly staff, excellent breakfast, valet parking. As it's an old listed building there were issues with the window which had a massive gap letting cold in. This was causing draught which then rattled not only the window but also the door all night. Bed was too soft and it moved with every turn. No mixer tap in the bathroom. Mirrors in wrong places. The room was very dark during the day and we had no heating as the radiator needed bleeding. It was a very cold November day and we were absolutely freezing. However, when reported to the reception the problem was addressed immediately, though due to the window issues it was never warm enough. There is a heavy curtain which is supposed to stop the draught but it also ironically blocks the heat from already a very inadequate radiator. However, I understand that there are probably better rooms, though at a higher price. It is already quite an expensive location so it's just a question of whether you are prepared to pay the premium. Still, we really enjoyed our stay in York and we will be back.

« Delightful afternoon tea (I didn't stay as a guest though, I was there for the tea and cakes!) »

Had my afternoon tea indoors with a colleague and it was very pleasant, while the interior doesn't wow you, the quality of the afternoon tea is very good and they don't push you to leave by landing bills on your last sip of tea (something done by a very well known tearoom in Yorkshire, ahem!). The quality of the tea is very good as well and staff is pleasant and attentive. Great location by the Minster. It must be great in the summer when the afternoon tea can be enjoyed in their beautiful backyard.

« Over priced and over heated »

Great location right next York Minster, good service, a very good breakfast and a spacious room. But even for York which is an expensive city the prices are high and they managed to heat the hotel to such an extent that even with the radiators turned off and windows open we still too hot in November!

    « Wonderful Break »

We have just spent a wonderful weekend here at the DCH. The staff - at all levels and in all roles were warm , friendly , helpful and welcoming. The breakfasts were superb with a range of dishes to suit all tastebuds. We ate in the restaurant on Saturday and enjoyed a first class meal. The value was excellent. We stayed in s small double room which was very clean and comfortable. Slightly expensive at £175 per night but you are paying for being at a great location. Next to York Minster , a 10 minute walk from the train station and close to bars , restaurants and shops but not close enough to be disturbed. A superb hotel. Thank you.

    « Excellent hotel »

I recently stayed at the Dean Court Hotel. Our room was lovely and clean, the breakfast was excellent and we had Sunday lunch in the restaurant which was delicious as was the wine! The location is brilliant, opposite the Minster and moments from the shops. The staff were very helpful and welcoming and happy to help and advise. I would recommend this hotel as an excellent stay in York.

« Superb location and excellent customer service »

This is our second visit and we were not disappointed. Customer service is fantastic, nothing is too much trouble. Valet parking and then everything taken up to your room. The breakfast is hot and freshly cooked and the breakfast staff were lovely, we really felt welcome and relaxed. The hotel is near the Minster and close to all the shops, a fantastic place to stay for the Christmas markets.

« First class lunch and excellent service »

My party of 4 turned up on spec, having left another hotel restaurant nearby as the service was so poor there that we did not eat. What a refreshing difference here. Very helpful and friendly staff, quick but not rushed service and first rate food at very good prices. We will definitely eat here again. Thank you.

    « A city break »

I have just had a 2 night stay at the DCH and I have to say what a perfect place to stay. The location, staff, and rooms were really good. I had everything I needed in the room and I was able to pop back when needed ( which is useful at 83). The staff were very helpful especially the manager Mr Murphy who went out of his way to make sure I was comfortable. The food was excellent and I particularly enjoyed the breakfast. Evensong at the Minster was just a short walk away and with the lovely decorations it made a wonderful start to Christmas. I will definitely be going again in the new year.

    « A city break at Christmas »

We chose the Dean Court hotel because of its fantastic location in the centre of York. We arrived to a warm welcome and valet parking. The Christmas decorations were stunning and immediately made us feel festive. We had prebooked lunch in the restaurant and were very impressed with the standard of the food and the pleasant proffesionalism of the staff. The room was spacious and comfortable with lovely views of York Minster and we were within walking distance of the shops. Breakfast was waiter service and very comprehensive, the staff were attentive and friendly and the food was very well presented. We popped in and out of the hotel throughout the two days, there were always plenty of staff around and anything we wanted was quickly sorted out. We were interested to see plans for a refurbishment in the hotel foyer which we thought was a nice way of keeping the customers in touch. The location of this hotel is the best in York and we look forward to visiting again very soon.

« Great hotel, fantastic location, helpful staff »

Great hotel with a brilliant location, so close to York Minster and the centre of the city. Visited the Christmas markets and did some sight seeing, so the location was ideal. Staff were really helpful - a warm welcome on arrival and quick check in. Service in the restaurant was also good, despite being very busy. We found all of the staff to be very friendly and accommodating, with a good knowledge of the city and places to visit. Room was slightly on the small side, (however this was expected for such a central location) but very clean. Would recommend this hotel. Fantastic for a comfortable stay in a very central location.

    « Excellent friendly service! »

I stayed at the Dean Court last weekend with a friend who was visiting York for the first time. It's quite a while since I was last in the Dean Court but I would just like to say what a refreshing transformation seems to have taken place there. From the moment we entered the hotel, to be greeted by the General Manager which is something that doesn't happen in many hotels, to the moment that we left on Sunday we couldn't have asked for more. On checking in the receptionist was very efficient professional and friendly. (Even down to offering advice on the direction of our favourite shops) Our room was lovely and had a magnificent view of the Minster. Yes it was a little noisy outside late at night but its a city centre hotel! Surely that is to a certain extent to be expected and not something that the management can do anything about. It certainly didn't spoil our night. Breakfast the following morning was excellent and the waiter who served us was very friendly and gave us excellent service. I understand that since I last visited the Dean Court about a year ago that there has been a change of management and it seemed obvious to me that there is a wind of change going through the Dean Court. The staff and the general atmosphere seems totally transformed. My friend who lives abroad thoroughly enjoyed her stay and will be recommending the Dean Court to her friends and colleagues. As will I !

    « Wonderfull »

Just had a weekend at the DCH, staff were fantastic, had dinner 1 night- amazing and they were so busy, breakfast both mornings really good choice, full English was hot well presented, well served by friendly professional staff. Hotel is right in the centre of York so there was a bit of noise outside but it was the Xmas market and the weekend. Our room was spotlessly clean, nice toiletries, great range of teas and coffees. Had a great time, fab hotel with fab staff, fab food in a fab location, will defiantly be going back as soon as we can.

« Awful service and extremely dissapointing room »

My parents booked this hotel for the second year running fr my father's birthday. Last time they had a fantastic room with plenty of space and a 4 poster bed. This time, despite the same package and booking in plenty of time, they were given a room no better than a travel lodge. Upon complaining, all complaints fell on deaf ears, no alternative room was offered and the staff were unhelpful. Complementary items included in the package were only provided upon complaining. Cleaning standards could have been higher. The standard of the evening fluctuated and was inconsistent from night to night. Would not recommend!

    « Mr hough »

We have just returned from a weekend away in your hotel The staff have been helpful as always but for £200 a night I expect more than a very small room that felt tiny compared to previous years, ( no.14) and we had a disturbed sleep Friday night/ Saturday morning. At 6am we were awakened by scaffolding being dropped outside the window and people shouting at their top of their voices until 9am. This lack of sleep effected all of the next day. We have been to this hotel twice before and had no complaints as we have had a room at the back which was much bigger and have had a good nights sleep but between the taxi rank and the building of the temporary farmers market NOT GOOD!! Our friends in room 25 were equally disturbed by the noise and were disappointed by the bar service, as when they ordered a double brandy it was given in a tumbler glass rather than a brandy glass.... just not what you expect when you spend this amount of money to stay at a supposedly good hotel

Stayed here for our wedding anniversary. The hotel staff upgraded our room, gave us a anniversary card and present! The room (number 11) was beautiful! Fresh flowers and fruit. The staff were wonderful, very helpful and friendly. They made our anniversary extra special! This is the best place to stay in central York. Very close to the beautiful shops and plenty of restaurants to choose from.

Arrived on Sunday afternoon for an overnight stay I parked outside to unload and help arrived at once to help, and my car parked by the hotel staff. Booking in was very pleasant and we booked a table for dinner. the receptionist showed us to our room, which was very tidy, modern, clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The restaurant was very good with plenty of space between tables. the menu was exciting and had some wonderful starters and main courses to choose from. Very extensive wine list.

« Shocking Customer Service and Dire Night's Sleep »

My mother and I have been going to the DCH twice a year for 10 years so, and when you look at the prices, you'll appreciate just how much we have spent at this place. Prior to our most recent (and final) visit, everything had been ok and we liked the location so we kept coming back despite the cost. We had a room facing outwards which overlooks a taxi rank (not the hotel's fault) and a window that wouldn't shut properly (hotel's fault) so needless to say, we had no sleep on a busy Saturday night and that is not an exaggeration: people were waiting (loudly) until 5am for their cars. I'm sure you appreciate that the primary function of a hotel is so you can sleep, hopefully in an environment that supersedes your everyday. With this in mind, we informed reception of the debacle and were met with complete apathy; not even the parking charges were reimbursed. So we took it further and talked to head office who again, were completely ambivalent. Mostly, this isn't the hotel's fault. The way they treated us was patronising and cold; prior to this, they had recognised us as regular patrons. We weren't asking for money back or any compensation but an apology wouldn't have gone amiss, especially when considering the numerous stays we had had at DCH. I'm not one to complain, I'm sure the problem is with Best Western rather than DCH, but please bear this in mind if you get a room at the front of the hotel: ask to be moved or at least have a functioning window. It's your right as a consumer and as a human being for whom sleep and rest is imperative.

« Lovely but very expensive »

If you want York City centre this has to be a wise choice, overlooking the Minster, everything on the door step, wide choices of rooms, very attentive staff, very clean throughout, however at £300 per night for a weekend deluxe room I expected so much more, this is dearer than London, Edinburgh and Paris for something similar, the room was nice, spacious, stylish and comfortable and had this had been a more realistic £150 per night I would have happily returned, probably also would have considered 5 stars, at these prices I will be looking elsewhere. Only other complaint and not the fault of the hotel it is very central everyone walks past the front and there was lots of noise from the taxi rank opposite beyond 4am, if you can secure a deal by all means go and have a look but for a premium last minute weekend I would doubt it has what it takes.

    3
    « Slightly disappointed... »

I'm afraid to say our recent stay was marred by a catalogue of instances which, having stayed on previous occasions, we found to be disappointing. On arrival, when shown to our room, which was booked as a 'Queen Standard' (the room size we have stayed in on previous visits), it was obvious that the room was a Small/Cosy Double. This issue was raised at Reception and the room was changed immediately to an alternative (Room 51) - however, the room we were moved to, although larger than the previous room, also seemed to be a Small/Cosy Double - it had a double bed as opposed to a Queen which we had expected. We felt uncomfortable about raising the matter again and so remained in the room. There was not much room for our luggage or for our clothes in the small wardrobe. The room was uncomfortably warm during our stay. There was also only 1 robe available to us and no extraction fan in the bathroom. On our second night, having dined out, we returned to the hotel at approx. 10.20pm but could not access the hotel as the doors would not open. We were joined by a further two couples whilst we were ringing the doorbell and phoning the number provided. There was no-one on Reception or anyone visible within the vicinity. No-one answered the doorbell and the phone went to answer-machine. We eventually managed to attract the attention of a member of staff in the bar area by banging on the windows. After some time, the night porter appeared and let us in after requesting us to show him our keys. We thought this a bit unusual and even feared there had been some incident in the hotel. No explanation was given to us. The next morning at breakfast we had to wait a lot longer than we had the previous day for our food to arrive - almost half an hour. Although the hotel staff were very friendly and the food excellent, we feel it important to bring the above matters to your attention. None of the above spoiled our stay in York but will make us consider other hotels for future bookings.

We have just returned home from a two night stay at this truly superb hotel. We have stayed in so many hotels over the years and I can honestly say this is in our top 3! From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the customer service was utterly outstanding. We loved everything about the hotel. The location is central and literally next door to the York Minster, so everything is within walking distance. Our room was cosy, clean and very comfortable. If you are looking for a fantastic hotel in the centre of York then book this absolutely fantastic hotel! You will not be disappointed! I cannot wait for us to return! 10/10.

« Impressed by staff team »

It's not something that usually comes top of a review but I was very impressed by the excellent staff at Deans Court. Friendly and very helpful, and it was noticeable how the management joined in to help out as and when required - a very positive sign of things being run well. The hotel is in a very convenient location next to the Minster. There is however no car park at the hotel though the hotel will valet park your car nearby for an extra charge (£18.50). The only meal we had was breakfast so can't comment on the food otherwise. Our room was a standard double and was fine. One thing that would have improved it would be to have dedicated bedside lamps on both sides of the bed rather than relying on ceiling lighting and a rather poor lamp on just one side. In summary, would I return - yes. Definitely recommended.

    « Great Location. »

We are regular visitors to York, but this is the first time we have ever stayed here. We chose it because of its central location, and thought it would be a nice place to stay for our anniversary. We stayed for two nights on 28th & 29th October. The Hotel itself is lovely, and the staff are very attentive. However, we were left disappointed when it came to our room. We booked well ahead of our visit, and had requested a room overlooking the front. Sadly, on arrival, we found we had been allocated room 45, around the back. This room offered no view whatsoever, and judging from the amount of bin rattling that went on and the smells permeating the room, we assumed it was near the kitchen. The room itself was adequate. The food here is good. The breakfast offers a great choice, but where the place really shines is in its evening meals. We ate here for two nights, and on both nights enjoyed beautifully cooked food in lovely surroundings. If I was reviewing the Hotel on its food alone, I would give it five stars. I wouldn't stay at here again as you appear to have no choice over the room. However when we visit York again, we will certainly be eating in the restaurant!

« A very nice hotel in the center of York »

I stayed in the Dean Court twice, each time for just under a week. It is a small, comfortable hotel, with friendly staff, clean rooms, and a very good restaurant. Breakfast is wonderful, and lunch and dinner are also very good. The rooms vary from a tiny single room (I got this once, and asked to be moved; its window overlooks a tiny courtyard with a lot of noise coming from air conditioners), to large double rooms (I spent a couple of nights in one of the larger rooms). It's centrally located, being right across the street from the York Minster; the only downside is that the bells from the cathedral can be quite loud! I would stay at the Dean Court again if I return to York.

« Couldn't have done more to help »

We had booked 5 rooms in connection with our daughters wedding. Although there had been some confusion over the rooms the reception staff couldn't have been more helpful. One of our party was on a mobility scooter and every time we needed their assistance to get in and the hotel they were excellent. Rooms were great and they set an area in the restaurant to one side for our party to have breakfast together. They also had arranged for a larger room for my daughter and bridesmaids to get ready and allowed a later check out. All in all it couldn't have been better and ensured the wedding passed without stress.

« Even better than expected »

Booked last minute to take my wife and 12 year old son on a visit to York as a treat. We were not disappointed - Hotel location perfect and our room overlooked the Minster. Staff all well presented and helpful. Only stayed for one night and ate in the hotel - all three of us loved the food. This hotel has valet parking and we were really pleased to find that after we checked out we could leave the car in the hotel car park, and luggage with reception all day whilst we went exploring York. This was just one of the nice touches we experienced. Staff were always to hand and looked after us during our stay. Really enjoyed ourselves and will be back again when we can.

« Excellent value hotel for city centre »

We stayed here for two nights. So convenient for city centre, the car valet service well worth having, arrive, hand over your keys and they do the rest and bring it back whenever you want it again. We had a room at the front overlooking some lovely gardens and could see the Minster if we lent out of window. Some reviews complain about noise but view out weights that. Reception will provide you with earplugs anyway if you need them. Excellent staff, nothing too much trouble. Very nice breakfast, extensive selection. Will certainly stay there whenever visiting York again.

We celebrated our wedding anniversary staying 2 nights. The location is fantastic the hotel has a real quality feel about it and the staff seem genuinely eager to please. Overal a really good hotel, Had I known when I booked that it was so near the minster, and parking would be limited, I would maybe have booked elsewhere, but that I my fault , not the Hotel. For a business trip good, if you are a tourist, it would be really, really good. stepping out the door and the Minster is right there, fabulous.

See previous two reviews written by our family. My husband and I were taken to this wonderful hotel for 80th birthday and 55th anniversary celebrations. We were warmly greeted by the attentive, charming staff, which set the tone for a joyful stay. Our room was clean and very comfortable, the food was out of this world. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who ensured that our stay was truly memorable. Can't wait to return!

« Wonderful staff, lovely hotel, brilliant location »

We wanted to organise a special weekend away for my in-laws who this year celebrated their 55th anniversary and my father-in-law's 80th birthday. The Dean Court fitted the bill perfectly - a perfect location opposite York Minster, great reviews on Trip Advisor and a really helpful receptionist who helped organise rooms for 2 couples and one family of 4. Our experience from arrival to departure proved that we had made the right choice. Lovely, super friendly staff greeted us, parked our car, took our bags to our room and settled us in. The bar staff sorted us with drinks and we had a great meal. The second evening showed hotel service at its best. We all went out to dinner to a restaurant that on paper should have been great. However it wasn't. We persevered through the main course and then I rang the Dean Court and explained, asking whether we could go back there for desserts and coffees. The Duty Manager couldn't have been more helpful, and when we got back he had unlocked the room used for lunches, where we essentially had our own private function room. What could have been a really disappointing evening turned into a great one - especially after a couple of bottles of prosecco! The level of customer care and attention to detail really sets this hotel apart from lots of others. Little things like remembering that my Mother-in-Law is gluten intolerant and therefore serving her special toast at breakfast really made her, and therefore us all feel special. We will definitely be going back because this was a stay to remember.

Brought here by my fiancé in a surprise night away for my 30th. Centre of York, but wasn't noisy in our room, next to York Minster. Hotel staff were all friendly and had great customer service. Room was lovely and clean, boutique style decor. Beds comfy, room warm, hotel in general clean and well maintained. Didn't eat at the hotel so not sure what the food is like. No complaints! Great stay!

We have just returned from our stay at dean court hotel and it was fantastic! We had a delux room overlooking the minster and the view was stunning. The room was spotless, the four poster bed was very comfortable. Breakfast and evening meal were both lovely out of our party of 7 not one person had anything negative to say. But the highlight of the stay was the staff. Nothing was too much trouble and they worked tirelessly, the lovely receptionist Leah even poppped to see us after her shift to see if there was anything else she could do! They really made us feel like we were the only guests in the hotel. I will definitely be returning.

Brilliantly situated but needed receptionist's help to reach the hotel! York is not an easy city to drive in/through. Parking is done off site and works very well indeed. Car driven there and delivered back by hotel staff. Not especially helpful if you intend using your car. Ideally placed for Minster and dozens of lovely shops. Enjoy famous Betty's tea rooms. In York for reunion dinner in hotel.Excellent food and, again, amazingly pleasant service. Evensong in Minster well worth a visit and the undercroft exhibition there is most informative. Hotel beds comfortable, bathroom large and clean. Try and get the corner seat in the dining room for breakfast. Visit Yorvik exhibition if you can.

From the time we arrived until we left, the staff were extremely helpful. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choices, our rooms were small but had all the amenities we needed. There could not be a better location for a hotel to such a significant landmark.

We booked in Dean Court for a birthday weekend and "YES " I know and expected the bells from the Minster but what we weren't expect was the noise in the front of the Hotel of the drunken revellers this went on till 4am. We booked in for three nights but after the first night we checked out. This was not a cheap room £270 per night at weekend. The room itself was very disappointing shabby with stained carpet and disgusting duvets. Poor slow WiFi If you expect something nice for £270 DONT STAY HERE The only positive in this hotel all staff were excellent

Lovely room with bay window overlooking the minster, ideal location for exploring York as everywhere within walking distance. Be careful when booking as not all rooms are accessible by lift, if this matters ask when you book. Dinner was expensive, £90 for two, lots of good restaurants within walking distance though. Dinner menu is not very extensive.

Stayed here with my wife for our anniversary, we upgraded to luxury, which we were meant to get a fruit basket and champagne...we never got either.... We booked in and found our own way to the very top floor. The room was nice, brilliant view of the minster. The bed was huge, that big it was hard to get in an out of it was so high. We tried the breakfast the next morning, i really wish we hadn't, they tried to make a english breakfast posh. I wish they hadnt it was terrible and i couldnt eat it.

I work in a best western so knew what to expect. Although there is no pool or spa facilities the hotel and staff were lovely. The decor in the main hotel is beautiful, however the rooms need a bit of maintenance. The hotels location is perfect if you're going for a shopping trip or not staying in the hotel much. Would go again but only with my staff discount

My partner booked this hotel as a birthday treat for me and he couldn't have picked a better place! We stayed for 2 nights in the "Melton Room" which has a perfect view of York Minster. The room has a very comfortable 4 poster bed and all the facilities you could need including a fridge and flat screen TV. The breakfast was also lovely and we will definitely return back to this hotel next time we visit York.

Located right opposite the Minster, it could't have been better, it allowed us to get round York easily. The staff were incredibly helpful and very friendly. We had a room with a great view of the Minster which was really nice. Breakfast was good, although my husband said the eggs benedict wasn't a patch on mine. We had dinner one evening and the staff were attentive without being annoying and the food was excellent, we all tried our friends Ox Cheek, boy it's was FABULOUS. Thanks for a very enjoyable stay.

An ideal hotel to stay when visiting, right in the centre of York. Cannot speak highly enough of the staff who were helpful from arriving to departing. Bags taken to your room for you, nothing too much of a problem and extremely pleasant staff

Whilst I love the location of this hotel, and the staff are extremely helpful, I did request on booking that myself and my travelling companion had adjacent rooms - I was told this would not be a problem. Upon arriving, I was on the third floor, my friend on the second. Whilst this was not a huge problem, I was a bit miffed that my request had been ignored.

Just returned from a two night stay at the Dean Court and would highly recommend it to others. Lovely staff, great breakfast and the location is unbeatable! The room was comfortable, well furnished with a great bathroom. The view from the room (room 42) of the minster was perfect. The valet parking is also worth while and made the stay even more enjoyable. Will definitely return in the future. Thank you to all staff, you made our stay really special.

    « A lovely place to stay »

We stayed for 3 nights at the hotel (Sunday to Wednesday). The hotel is in a great location in the middle of York where all the main attractions are in walking distance. We arrived at the hotel to find that we'd been upgraded because we were staying to celebrate my birthday and there was even a box of chocolates on the bed for me. The room was lovely and had everything we needed plus a view of the Minster. The bathroom had a great powerful shower and again everything we needed. The only slight negative was that the room was very hot (this was in October) and even after turning off all the radiators we needed to keep the windows open over night. Due to the central location (and possibly because it was the start of a new University year) there was a lot of noise out on the street, which because of needing to keep the windows open woke us up each night between 3 and 4am. Not the fault of the hotel and it wouldn't put me off staying again (and I'd certainly sooner be too warm than too cold) but maybe a bit more control over the heating would help. A very enjoyable stay.

Just returned from a two night stay here. The only way to describe this hotel is perfect for any body staying in York, right opposite the minster and only yards away from all the shops, pubs, museums. We stayed in room 61 witch overlooks the minster has a seating area huge bed and every modern convenience . The staff are wonderful polite and friendly and nothing is to much trouble in order for you to enjoy your stay. The breakfast is very good with excellent service. We used the valet parking although not cheap it is very well organised by the very efficient staff, will stay here again well done to the management on a well run hotel a pleasure to stay thank you

The staff couldn't have been more helpful. Lovely, clean and next door to York Minster! The food in the restaurant was exquisite and you can't beat the view of the minster whilst you eat. Will be going again when we can get babysitters!

    « Perfect Location »

We've just got back from an absolutely wonderful long weekend in York, what a beautiful city and this hotel is the perfect place to stay to make the most of the city's history. Situated right opposite York Minster and within a few minutes walk from The Shambles. We booked a Deluxe Double and weren't disappointed, the hotel offers a combination of old and new. Our room had lovely high ceilings, wonderful old looking cornicing, a very large bed, great bathroom and tea and coffee making facilities. It also came with the benefit of a great view of York Minster its self. Breakfast is wonderful with plenty of choice and was well cooked and presented. Staff were friendly and helpful. The location of this hotel makes it perfect for tourists, however the location also means that it can be a bit noisy at night time.
