« Best Western West Orange »

Professional staff, clean rooms, comfortable beds... heating/ cooling units work wonderfully especially since winter is upon us... would recommend again and again.. (They accommodate pets too). My stay was pleasant.

    « Awful experience »

0 friends 1 review 1.0 star rating 11/12/2016 I had an awful experience at this hotel. A broken toilet flooded our second floor room, so we were put in a smaller, musty smelling room on the first floor. Only one staff member was on the premises who had no idea what to do, so the flood came through the ceiling into the lobby. There was no maintenance or housekeeping person in the hotel, only the desk clerk. Upon checkout, the manager told us the room would be comped, and then she put through the charge. When she denied making the offer, customer services tried to intervene, but she refused calls from corporate representatives, who said, we were also charged for the first larger room, not for the room we stayed in. Find somewhere else to stay!

« Nice place - value for money »

This Hotel is located very close to the bus station, and opposite to the zoo. Very well maintained. The breakfast was good, with a variety of vegetarian options. The staff is friendly and helpful. Will visit again.

« Walk to the zoo »

This is a Best Western and its not meant to be a 5-star hotel so lets keep that in mind.. We loved the location being across from the zoo and reservoir. The staff were very pleasant, the breakfast was well done with absolutely great coffee, Seattle's Best. The only downfall is that there are much needed renovations. Our room was clean and comfy. The bed and pillows were very nice but it did need a new bathroom and entire door. If the operators gave the exterior a face lift I'm sure they would attract more drive by business. This is not a resort destination to hang out at but it is a very clean and comfortable hotel to stay at while pursuing other business or leisure activities.

    « Needs upgrading »

The room was clean, the staff was okay with the exception of the front desk attendant when we checked in who was borderline rude, but condition of the bathroom was atrocious, it's at least 10 years over due for a remodel.

    « Just OK »

This is an older hotel in need of renovation. The room was fairly Spartan with several of the bathroom fixtures coming off the wall. On the up side, our room was very clean and the hotel offered a good breakfast. The beds were comfortable and the towels were nice and soft. The staff were friendly and helpful. Reasonably priced for the area. Conveniently located across the street from Turtle Back Zoo.

    « Ants! »

I was made to wait several minutes to check in despite their being no line and when I was ready to go to bed I moved the sheets aside and there were several ants crawling over the pillows. The fitness center was also nothing more than a treadmill and some light dumbbells.

    « convenient & friendly »

The staff was friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was great and gave variety. I just wish there was more room to dine. The hotel was across the street & convenient to our trip to the zoo and treetop adventure course.

    « Reunion Weekend Lodging »

This partially-renovated hotel has existed in my childhood town up to the present day and has been visited extensively over the years. It is located with easy access to NYC-bound buses, and to venues such as the Essex County Turtle Back Zoo, an ice skating arena complex, and an outdoor adventure interactive park -- all within walking distance of the hotel's front door. The hotel, being old, does have its sore spots which should be corrected to render aesthetics more pleasing and also to fix some ridiculous issues like a bathroom door that is carved out at a point in order to pass a vanity top that juts out too far due to a mis-measured vanity top depth to the back wall. The door will shut to afford privacy, but it hangs up slightly on the vanity top as it passes. Another problem with the bathtub, was that the tub stopper didn't operate to close off the drain and so the tub wouldn't fill. The shower was fine, however. Overall, the accommodations were adequate and the staff courteous and helpful. Maintenance of the property could be vastly improved.

    « Family Reunion 2016 »

At this years family reunion we stayed at the Best Western Turtle Brook Inn in West Orange, NJ. The hotel is located across from the turtleback zoo and was just a 15 minute drive from our picnic area. The hotel was very clean, rooms were clean and there are several different style rooms to choose from. Staff was very helpful and courteous. Several of my elder relatives stayed at the hotel and they were all treated very kindly. Breakfast was very good, lots to choose from to start your day. Thank you Best Western for a very nice stay with my family and we will see you again.

    « Needs Upgrade NOW »

Needs a total makeover. The dark smelly hallways will lead up to the even worse smell in the rooms. With the sheets feeling not dry and carpets feeling disgusting. Breakfast was ok until saw one of the workers kill a bug with a tissue. The price we paid for this place was insane for the quality of this run down hotel. Horrible!

« Good location, great staff but outdated hotel »

This hotel has a great staff but the rooms need a complete overhaul. Pop corn ceiling fell on our heads, ceiling areas had mildew and the toilet handle had to be jiggled over and over. For 24-hours there was no hot water and no information to go by. We stayed PGA Championship week during a heat wave. After checking AC cooling in several rooms we were lucky enough to stay in a room with cool AC. On a good note, the rooms are kept very clean and I can't say enough about how friendly and helpful the staff is. Without them, this hotel would be out of biz. Please give them all a raise.

« Decent Hotel for a Short Visit »

I was going to the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ and needed a place to stay for the night. This hotel is in an excellent location. It only took me 15-20 minutes to get into Montclair. There's a gas station and Dunkin Donuts right down the road and the Turtle Brook Zoo is across the street. I loved the free breakfast it came with. They had a waffle maker, pancake maker, and eggs. I gave three stars because the room itself was very dirty and outdated compared to other Best Westerns I've stayed at. Most of the furniture had cracks or scuff marks. The lock leading to the outside balcony had a screw loose and was broken. I noticed the room next to ours had a glass door with a large crack in it, which made me feel uneasy. There was also a little mold in the shower tiles and the shower went from being hot to cold constantly. Also, the carpet floor felt very dirty. I would not stay here for more than a day. I was disappointed by the quality of the room because the price was around $130 and I expect basic things like the shower water remaining hot, a clean carpet, and a functioning lock for the outside door. If it wasn't for the location and the awesome breakfast, I would not recommend a stay here.

« great place to stay and great location for fun »

The room was clean though the shower tended to spill over on the floor. In all it was great to stay. Breakfast should be a variety sometimes and supply some healthy combinations too. The air condition was okay but set on a straight timer so it didn't time out and always stayed on. TV was a good selection of channels too. Great place for its price

    « South Orange »

Is it too much to expect hot water in the shower in the morning? I waited for the hot water, it never came. It did get warm. They do no accommodate guests over 6 feet tall. You can stop reading now.Trip advisor requires a two hundred word minimum. seems silly. try to be succinct but to no avail.

    « Comfortable every year »

My husband and I have stayed here before, this time I was solo. Best: The coffee is very good, and I like having decent water pressure in the shower. The decor is a little dated, but the hotel is consistently clean and comfortable, with nice folks on the front desk. I return, so of course I recommend it.

« A good stay, with a few little glitches »

I slept very well; room was clean; staff was pleasant; breakfast was fine. It was less than 10 minutes to St. Barnabas, where I was attending classes. A special bonus was the "Zoo-Loop Trail" in the woods across the street. Downside: a few upkeep problems. Bathroom sink drain plug didn't work, also bathroom exhaust fan didn't work. Refrigerator malfunctioned and woke me up. But staff replaced it. I would stay there again.

    « visit during April »

very comfortable. wireless internet access improved from previous visits. excellent access to various areas around West Orange. staff were very helpful in answering questions. breakfast is always good. I always stay here when visiting family and friends in the area.

« Nice room and service »

Stayed for 4 nites at this hotel and it was wonderful. We had a handicap accessible room and it was very nice. Good shower and easy access. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. Would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in area.

    « Great Location »

Great location in West Orange. We were on a college tour and visiting Seton Hall. When we checked in the desk clerk asked what we were doing in town and when we mentioned Seton Hall, she gave us a better discount than AAA. She was great...super informative about the area and public transportation etc. The rooms are not in the best shape, but they were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was fine. Again, the gal at the front desk was top notch. Directed us away from taking the train from Newark and told us which local train to take. Very friendly and informative.

« Best Weston Orange NJ »

I have been coming to this hotel for over ten years for business even though their are other hotels closer to my appointments. The staff and owner go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. They have been committed to constantly improving their services and accommodations over the many years .

« Expect more for price »

The hotel was kind of run down and shabby. The beds were comfy, but the bathroom was small and worn out. The staff was very nice. The waffles and pancakes for breakfast were good, but the attendant often let items run out. The room was clean, but I did have to kill a bug. The bus was close to bus and rail lines. They did give us a $23 discount because we were visiting Seton Hall. It's a good thing too, because I could not see paying over $140 dollars for the place.

    « ick »

we had to stay here due to an unexpected funeral. I had stayed here about five years ago and didn't remember it being too bad so I wasn't worried, but I guess I should've been. Upon arrival, the gentleman at the front desk was clearly quite ill, as he was sneezing and sniffling all over the place. When I got to my room, I couldn't shut the door because the security "chain" (the u-shaped metal thing that prevents the door from opening more than two inches) kept getting stuck in the door. The Bathroom clearly hadn't been cleaned thoroughly and the shower curtain was fabric so when I showered it became immediately saturated with water. The sheets on my bed were extremely pilled and rough. The air conditioning unit was CHOKED with dust and what looked like mold and there were cobwebs on the top of it. Also, the remote didn't work. The sliding glass door was kept shut with an old tension rod and even though I was told this was a "non-smoking" property, there was a bucket on the "balcony" full of water and what I have to assume was cigarette/cigar ash/butts. The fridge didn't actually seem to get cold and made strange sounds all through the night (and there was a suspicious ice-cube tray in the "freezer" full of weird water) Breakfast the next morning was ABYSMAL. (I should also point out that I woke up feeling TERRIBLE and I blame it on the dust/mold situation) There was an office off of the lobby that I have to assume belonged to the manager and they were using a beat up high-heeled shoe as a doorstop. Literally, the only thing this place had going for it was the free wifi.

    « Stay Away... »

I recently booked an overnight at this property. When I arrived, I was told by the Manager that my reservation was for the next evening. I had pre-paid, so asked if the hotel was full. His response, "No, would you like to book a room." I shared with him that I had already paid for the room, but he would only let me stay if I paid again. You see I had paid for tomorrow night, not tonight. So the hotel is not filled, I have already paid for the room, and now I am being told I have to pay again. Stay away from this place... the customer service was below terrible, and they will screw you where ever and how ever they can.

« Good for business travel or passing through the area »

This was a one night stay for business. The hotel was in a convenient location for work at Saint Barnabas Hospital. Gentleman at front desk was friendly and efficient. The room was spacious, clean, quiet, and comfortable. There are a few places to eat within a block walk (they also deliver). Breakfast was the average buffet. But most places have either a pancake or waffle maker - this had both!! Parking is on-site and free. Wifi is free. Will return here.

    « Great Stay »

Staff were very cordial and accommodating. The lobby is large and provided entry from the front and back of the hotel. It is located directly across from Turtleback Zoo. The breakfast has a great variety of options.

« Convenient and very nice staff. »

We stayed one night while visiting family in the area. Right across the street from a cute little zoo that had a Christmas light festival going on. The gentleman at the front desk was very nice and recommended a family owned pizza place steps from the hotel. It was crowded because of the zoo traffic but had fast service and good slices and salad. Our room was fine - the beds were comfortable and the bathroom very clean. The hotel is a bit expensive - it is certainly not a luxury hotel - but it was perfect for our purposes. We would definitely stay again. We met our family for breakfast so we didn't try the complimentary fare but it seemed like the usual free breakfast.

« Quiet, clean, and comfortable »

Arrived late night on a Saturday for an event at a near by college the next day. Was warmly greeted by the young lady at the front desk. Friendly chit chat while checking in, and my questions were answered. Room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. A HUGE plus was how quiet the hotel was!! No outside or hallway noise whatsoever!! Got a great night's sleep after a five hour drive!! Free parking and breakfast were another big plus!! On the "down side", there are no package stores in the area if you need to pick something up, and there is no tea in the room, as an alternative to the kurig coffee. Will definitely stay here again when in the area!!

    « This place stinks!! »

There is on overwhelming musty / moldy order in the hallways and rooms. The bathrooms were also not as clean as they should have been. The staff is friendly and helpful, but this place needs a face-lift.

« Very dated but clean »

Room was very large, but very dated and shabby. Ceiling had water stains; Bathroom had mold and peeling material from the tub. Towels were very thin. Reception person was very efficient. Our room was not ready when we arrived (after check-in time), but two maids went in and quickly prepared the room.

« They make the best of an old hotel »

An old hotel that is kept up quite nicely. Beds were quite comfortable. Very small hotel with 2nd floor rooms without an elevator. For the same price you could probably find a hotel more leaning towards the plush.

« Good value, average hotel »

Pros: Hotel is clean, decent hot breakfast, bed comfy, good price for the area. Cons: Breakfast start would be better at 6am, not 6:30. Hotel is old, needs renovation, but everything worked well. Room spacious, bathroom small but adequate.

« do not stay here »

this Best Western should be renamed Worst Western. rooms are extremely old & worn and in need of repair, The bathroom was dirty, with cracked and chpiped shelves and fixtures. The bathroom door know was about to fall off I was afraid of being trapped in the bathroom. The breakfast and coffe were accepable. I wish I had stayed elsewhere. It was so bad I left a day early loosing the cost a one night's stay.

    « Mostly pleasant stay »

We arrived around 11 pm dead tired but walked out of the room as soon as stepped in. It had a moldy wet rug smell although it looked clean. Front desk person promptly gave us a second floor room; there is no elevator, so with luggage that could be a bit challenging, but it did not bother us at all. This room was clean, very large with comfortable bed, and some constant traffic sound. Our request for late check out was graciously accepted by the lady at the desk next morning. Good coffee.

    « great hotel »

terrific staff, great hotel, great rooms, great location, nice city, easy to get to, friendly location, things to do nearby, was a supercalifragilousexpialidosis experience, can not praise hotel too much
