« Ok for short stay »

My partner and I booked an overnight stay in a suite. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was a bit of a puzzle, the bath had outlets which made us think it was probably a jacuzzi of some sort. It had a digital display on the side but we pressed every button and could not get anything to happen so either it didn't work or there needs to be instructions with it. Also it had bits on the side of it which were obvioly parts that had fallen off it (see photo) The bed was also a disappointment and uncomfortable. It was a huge bed because it was 2 singles pushed together but it needed to have one big mattress rather than the 2 single mattresses. Because there were 2 mattresses there was this uncomfortable part in the middle that one or the other of us kept laying on and being uncomfortable so we ended up huddled on one half ie one single bed!!

    « Really good valie »

A nice hotel, friendly staff who go out of their way to help you. Clean rooms, good location, good access to city but rural and quiet. Our shower in the room was very weak but that is the only fault. Didn't matter as we had a bath. Great value for money. Would stay again

    « Grease Night »

Well what a night, will not be going back here for an event night. Firstly took you order by table number, great seemed organised then proceed to bring all the prawn cocktails out at once shouting are these yours needless to say I had finished my starter before my partner got theirs. Now mains ordered the pork which was fatty and tough, we I was asked was it ok I told the waitress the truth who then went to see Steve, came back with the answer well Steve says its like that sometimes. Desserts frozen shop bought and very watery with no taste, needless to say we will not be rushing back.

« Unfortunately our last ever visit, no longer accepting dogs! »

We have stayed at this hotel on a regular basis for a number of years as it is an ideal location for us when visiting family and friends in nearby Wickersley. The hotel rooms have always been clean and tidy, the staff are very friendly and helpful and the breakfasts are lovely with plenty of choice. To our disappointment when we stayed recently, we were told that the hotel was under new ownership and apart from honouring existing bookings, they would no longer be accepting dogs. Our planned Christmas visit is now on hold as pet friendly accommodation in the Rotherham area is virtually non existent!

« Good value but some facilities need updating »

At £52/night for two people including breakfast this was fantastic value and well placed for reaching Rotherham and neighbouring motorways. The staff were friendly and helpful. Room very clean and bed comfortable. Free WiFi non-existent in room but connection in reception area, no airconditioning working in room but open window kept room cool on humid day. No shower gel and shampoo in dispenser. Breakfast was well cooked and vegetarian sausages particularly good - nice and juicy, coffee not particularly pleasant and fruit consisted of tinned prunes and grapefruit which many people, like us cannot eat because of medications. Staff were all very friendly and coped well with guests like us who were staying alongside a large wedding party. Despite a nearby party we were impressed with the lack of noise in our room.

« Management of the hotel poor »

We stayed here for three nights on a short break, and picked this hotel as it was a good rate and I had up until now a good opinion of Best Western. Pros: The shower was good Cons: The toilet seat lid was broken - we reported it to reception, a new one was 'fitted' the next day with poor quality fittings. It moved every time we used the loo. There was no soap in the dispenser over the sink. We reported this also, but in the end had to go back to reception to get a new bottle and fit it ourselves. The tv took 10 mins to use every time as each time it was switched on it went to settings and we had to launch the search for channels. We reported this too, the receptionist seemed aware this was an issue but nothing happened. There were cobwebs in the bedroom and bathroom (plus a rather large spider) The kettle lid was broken. (given up reporting things by now) There was no wifi. Day two we had a hand towel with a big hole in it. There were no controls for the aircon. The bed had a horrible thick plastic sheet on it that made sleeping really uncomfortable. Having read some other reviews I'm glad we didn't check underneath. Decor of the room was dated. On check out we weren't even asked if we had a good stay - presumably the lady didn't want to hear the answer. I would never book to stay here again, there is no interest in customers having a good stay, and in meeting basic standards.

« Good price, good staff details let them down »

Friendly staff, clean hotel and comfy bed but i had issues as follows I received no welcome pack/gift as a diamond card holder Internet was difficult to connect to and unreliable TV had to reset channels every time i turned it on Air condition wasn't working

« Decent hotel, friendly staff »

I stayed here for 1 night while working in the area. The room was big and clean but slightly dated. The staff were all friendly, I ate in the restaurant where there was plenty choice and the food was very nice. Lots of parking too.

    « Wedding and Stay »

We chose this hotel to host our daughters wedding on Sat 27th August and from first booking to leaving the venue after the event the service and organisation was first class. Nothing was too much trouble for Sharon and her staff and were there all the way through to help our important day went off smoothly A special mention for Shelley for a first class meal with home made Yorkshires and Moira and her team of waiting staff Rooms very spacious and comfortable with an excellent standard of decoration throughout

    « Overnight for a Wedding. »

I had high hopes for our overnight stay. I probably shouldn't have. The staff were lovely and the room was well presented and recently decorated. However ..... It was hotter than the eternal hell fires as the air con had no controls. .... I opened a window, which made the noise level quite high. Luckily, the main road didn't keep me awake (the bed was the perfect level of comfort for me, but my husband hated it.). The tv was green for the first five minutes until it had warmed up. There was, what I can only describe as a hair ball on the bathroom floor behind the door. It wasn't my hair, nor was the hair in the bath or on the tiles near the shower. Moving on to the shower .... Starting off as a luke warm drizzle, I had to fiddle with the old control for around 10 minutes until the water became warm enough to clean myself in. Although the pressure was akin to the "pee laugh" of a nonagenarian, I jumped in and attempted to bathe. The water heated very quickly to an unbearable temperature, forcing me to revert to twiddling the control. This was unsuccessful..... The water was either freeze-your-nads cold or burn-your-skin-off hot. There was no in-between. It wasn't fun. I won't be staying again and I won't be recommending it.

    « Overnight pitstop »

This was a quick overnight stay while driving up to Scotland. I must say, I've got no complaints at all. The room was clean and tidy. It had just been redecorated I think, slight smell of fresh paint in the air. We had food in the restaurant and we made welcome by the waiter. He even provided some chips on the house!! The portions were huge and actually reasonable for the money too. A comfy bed and a decent nights sleep. Only down side, the seal around the door isn't all that good and light could be seen all around the door. Kept the Mrs up for some reason! Checking in and out was a breeze. Good job people!

    « Great Hotel »

This is a great hotel and the staff are always helpful and welcoming. The rooms are a good size and the food is above average. I always stay in this hotel when I'm in the area, its a great hotel and excellent value for money.

« An Amazing Sunday Lunch »

Our family of five went yesterday for Sunday Lunch to celebrate a birthday and everything was perfect. All the food was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. We shall certainly be visiting again. The only reason I don't want to enthuse more about it is because it might get too busy and we will not get a table!! Very, very well done to all staff. You made the day extra special.

« Nice room wonderful staff rubbish internet »

We arrived for our weeks stay and were sent to our room which turned out to have all the furniture on the bed, decorators had failed to put the room back together. Went back down to reception and got the key-card changed for the room next door, back up the stairs opened the door, got knocked out by the heat as the decorators had put this room back together but neglected to mention they had snapped the thermostat off the radiator so the room was sauna level on a really hot day. I rang reception from the room and a lady was up in seconds with so many apologies, luckily we thought it was quite amusing 3rd time lucky and all that. We were given the Brampton Suite room 214 wow huge room 32 inch telly, sofa, jet bath and shower. We loved it. Breakfast was good but when we asked about the way the sausages were cooked (my wife is sensitive to high fat foods) we were told fried, we asked if they could be grilled and the server was a bit grumpy saying that will take ages to cook them that way. We said we weren't in a hurry we also asked for poached eggs and no fried bread. All arrived and were good. There was a good choice of accompaniments as well, fruit, toast, croissants, cereal, fruit juices etc. All was well till we got back to the room and tried to watch tv on catchup......not a chance I tested the connection and it was 0.3 Mbytes a bit of a joke in this day and age hopefully they will get it sorted soon as it was this speed all week nearly unusable even for checking emails. We went to the bar Tuesday night to eat but didn't fancy anything on the menu as we had already had chips and everything else was a bit heavy as we had eaten well at lunch. Whilst pondering the bar restaurant manager, Sonny said how about I make you a sort of plough mans with pate, cheese, salad etc, exactly the type of meal we were after, we had a large sharing platter with all the above as well as ham, chutney and some grapes and apple, splendid. All washed down with a couple of glasses decent red and a couple of pints for me. As for noise it didn't worry me as we were up late anyway and it all finished by 12. The aircon didn't work, this was beyond their control as someone had stolen all the compressors outside, but the staff supplied 2 desk fans for us as opening the windows was a no no as the motorway only 100 yards away and the noise kept us awake with the windows open. All in all an enjoyable stay good value for money and the only thing stopping them getting 5 stars is the painfully slow internet speed

« Ideal for an overnight stop »

We stayed one night here en route from London to North Yorks. This is a very comfortable, spotlessly clean and well run hotel with helpful, friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very welcome. The Best Western brand can usually be relied upon for straightforward good value and this one did not disappoint. Would definitely recommend this as a one night stopover during a long journey. Slept soundly and woke refreshed!

    « Short stay »

Second time staying at this hotel and again it didn't disappoint. First of all the price was fantastic! Second the breakfast was delicious and there was a great selection. Third the staff were very friendly and we're happy to serve us drinks in the bar even though we were the only ones in there. Finally, the room was clean and comfortable with a huge bathroom. Additionally, plenty of parking! No complaints

    « Another great stay! »

We always use this hotel when we are back in Rotherham. Its clean and welcoming, the staff always do their best to make our stay comfortable. This time we had a complaint about the room we were given but reception handled our request to move rooms with ease. The breakfasts are great and cooked to order. We will be back!

    5
    « Nice hotel »

My friends and I were having a few days away in Yorkshire and as one of our friends lives in Rotherham we decided to stay the night. I can't fault the hotel, the room was clean and spacious and staff were friendly and helpful. The bathroom was lovely with a jacuzzi bath and still plenty of space left in the rest of the room. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice and you can tell it's cooked fresh. Thank you!

    5
    « Good Hotel »

Stayed here one night in room 212 - lovely big room, huge bathroom. Very clean. Pretty hot, AC not working but desk fan provided. Very nice bed linen! Breakfast lovely, helpful staff, welcoming and cheerful, I asked for green tea, no problem at all. It doesn't look very nice from the outside but is amazing for the price. I would stay there again!

    4
    « Family reunion »

A lovely, spacious room spoiled by noise from in-house disco which went on 'til 12.30a.m. Stifling weather - took ages to work out how to use air-con remote which had batteries in wrong way round as there wasn't a user guide. We treated ourselves to the more expensive room on the dinner, bed & breakfast deal. The reason for staying at this hotel was we were attending a funeral and other members of the family were staying there. However we'd had the journey from hell, arrived just in time for the funeral and by the time we'd had dinner and catch-up with family, were absolutely shattered. As we walked to our room, we could hear a disco - deep joy! The receptionist said it would finish at approx. 12.30a.m. We had to run the air-con all night so noise from that too.

« Reasonable if your only option »

We had room 109, it was overall a reasonable stay, and fit our needs. But we didn't have a good night's sleep and I wouldn't necessarily recommend the hotel if you have other options elsewhere. I'll just list the good and the bad below to help you make you're own opinions: The bad: ? Poor shower (temperature intermittent and no water pressure) - the shower is always important to me, so a big issue in my opinion. ? A/C broken (hottest day of the year), which is to some extent is out of the hotels control, but it did significantly affect our stay. ? Low stock of toilet roll (nearly ran out on a one night stay when we were only in the room late at night until the morning) ? Room very noisy, with wedding going on until 1am, and farm noise (rooster?) all night (made worse by having to have window open due to ac), could hear doors slamming and taps running/flushing. ? Strong paint smells in room. ? No plug sockets near the right hand side of the bed. (A pet peeve of mine!) The good ? Coffee making facilities in room decent ? Nicely presented room, recently decorated (hence smell!) ? Good location ? A good amount of free parking onsite ? Check in and out was straightforward ? Free WiFi in room (but not great connection) ? Breakfast was good quality (and included in our price) ? Friendly enough staff

    « For a three star it's very good »

The rooms are basic but clean, the walls not thick so you do get a bit of noise. The free WiFi is a bit poor, But for the price, to be fair you'd have to be very picky to find fault. The bar is clean and well presented the barman is friendly and attentive, he obviously has good rapport with his regulars. The food was hot and filling, and for basic pub grub was very well done. All in all we'd definitely stay again. And the location is ideal for transport links.

    « Great Hotel »

Stayed 1 night after wedding reception, Firstly the wedding reception Consort put on First Class. The staff very friendly and welcoming, the rooms very clean, and breakfast you couldnot fault it for myself and partner easy 10 out of 10. Would recomend this hotel. One last thing the receptionist who was on saturday morning, could not wish to come down first thing in the morning and be greeted with a wonderfull smile . Well done to everyone.

    « The Good & The Bad »

The bad On arrival we were given room 108 on entering the corridor to the rooms the smell of paint was horrible after five minuets the fumes were giving us a headache so I complained to the desk about the smell and stated the fumes had already given us a headache so could they move us, I was offered no alternative but simply told that nothing could be done as the room had been recently decorated and the smell was unavoidable I said that if the fumes did not clear I would have to find another Hotel although I realized no refund would be made a shrug of her shoulders gave me the impression I was wasting my time complaining any further about the smell, I also complained that the TV and the assistant said she would get the restaurant manager to look at the TV, a short while later the restaurant manager turned up and he could not fix the TV but said it did not matter as he could not leave us in this room as the smell was terrible and he could not stand it himself any longer and the rooms should not have been let out. The Good We were moved to a room on the second floor that would normally cost only £5.00 per night extra although we were not charged the extra, what a difference the room was fantastic my recommendation is if you have the choice go for a deluxe room on the second floor go for it. To sum up if the TV had been working the reception staff were happy not to do anything about the paint fumes and were happy to leave us in that room, although I must say just before the Manager had arrived we had found another room in another hotel near by and had decided to check out. The way we were looked after by the restaurant manager was second to none he even took the trouble later that night to ask if everything was OK, he is a credit to the hotel. The evening meal was exceptional in value and quality at only £20 for a meal for two including a good bottle of wine, the wine we were given would normally cost about £7 in the supermarket. The breakfast staff was also very good and attentive; the breakfast was good quality at a good price. Apart from the first hour of our stay I would have no hesitation of recommending the hotel, two stars missing just for the check in experience. On another note we normally avoid Best Western Hotels mainly because we used to stay in a lot of Best Westerns all over the world as to take advantage of the Best Western Rewards membership, we had saved over a couple of years enough points for a couple of free nights, but due to an illness for twelve months we did not stay in any Hotels, when we started our travels again we found that all the Best Western Points we had built up had been removed, we asked why as they stated on the sales literature they never expire, we were told that this does not apply to UK citizens, true enough in the small print in the T&C it does say excluding the UK even though on the UK sales literature it states they don't expire (see Photo from the key card holder this week) Best Western Rewards Program is a bit of a con stick with Hotels.com you get point in all hotels at a better price than booking direct in the last 4 months we have already got a free stay worth £112.31 That said we have stayed in two Best Westerns this month alone booked through Hotels.com and I would say in the many hotels we have stayed in I have only put pen to paper twice to complain and both time were Best Western Hotels.

« One night stay on our way to North Yorkshire »

We only stayed one night and it was good. They were were nice about us arriving very late (almost 2am). My only complain would be noise - I think it was coming from the bathroom in the room next door. It woke me up early in the morning and it was hard to get back to sleep. Otherwise, nice stay.

    4
    « Overnight stay »

We were attending a party four miles away and don't want to drive back to the Yorkshire Dales afterwards. I have to confess to being surprised at our accommodation, being familiar with the Consort Suite from Dinner dances there 20 years ago. I was not expecting great things but was very satisfied with our stay. We had the Brampton Suite, which I wasn't expecting, it was very large, with a massive bed. The room was clean, comfortable and had a good supply of tea, coffee and biscuits, and the bathroom had a whirlpool bath, two sink vanity unit and a shower cubicle with a very powerful shower. The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was well cooked, with plenty of choice of fruit, yogurts and pastries. The only downside was some noise in the corridor about 2am, inconsiderate guests at a wedding, but it didn't last long. We also found that we couldn't get a drink at the bar due to the wedding, but the very pleasant Portuguese receptionist brought drinks through to us from the bar. A very pleasant 3 star hotel

    4
« Decent hotel great value and location »

Not sure what to expect at £86 for a couple for two nights. Lovely room, friendly staff, clean comfortable. Breakfast buffet good and cooked breakfast very nice great sausages. Went out of their way as we requested packed lunches two days and they provided nice bag with sandwiches, fruit, crisps and bottled water. Most impressed.

    « wedding »

Went to this hotel to celebrate a wedding was well decorated and food was really good. Rooms large and well laid out i would not hesitate to recommend this as a place for a celebration or a short or extended stay.

« Great, if staying for wedding. »

Stayed for 2 nights (Friday & Saturday) We was here for a wedding on the sat night & a caught up with family & friends on the Friday night. Staff very friendly & very helpful, very clean hotel. Breakfast very good. we had a family room which was huge. Not a place to stay if your not at a party or wedding as they do go on very late into the morning & our room seemed to be above the disco. The food at the wedding was very nice. All in all a brilliant weekend. thank you.

    5
« Still keeping the standard »

Stayed there again recently and it is remarkable that they maintain the high standards. I stopped there on the way home rather than make the extra effort to drive on because I KNEW the quality would be there. I was right. All the way from the outstanding Karen, via the irrepressible Sammy, through to the charismatic Norma it all makes for a joyful experience. Well worth a visit and the prices are superb value for money.

    « So disappointing - room -107 »

I stayed in room 107. I removed the hospital sheet (as seen in attached photo) as it was very uncomfortable, only to uncover the soiled mattress below (photo attached). Absolutely disgusting state and completely put me off. I rang the staff who came along and asked me 3 times why I had removed the sheet, there was no need for me too. Despite me explaining the plastic sheet was very uncomfortable. They finally phoned a manager who said there was no other rooms and that was that. Definitely make sure you steer clear of this room!!!

    2
    « Cheap and cheerful »

Spent 2 nights with my son. Friday and Saturday. Hellish, both nights there were weddings, Friday guests shouting until 1am and then Saturday couldn't even use the hotel bar because the wedding was in there. Shower was a mere dribble (room 208), no remote control for air on and worst of all the toilet is positioned in such a way that if you are a larger than average size you can't sit on it straight because it's too close to the wall. The only good thing was that it was cheap. Nothing special, worst great western I've stayed in.

    3
    « Not a good stay »

First the good - friendly and helpful receptionists, good breakfast The bad - tired decor, very poor standard of cleaning, very noisy from traffic outside, no air con, thick plastic/rubber mattress cover on the bed making it very uncomfortable to sleep, limited menu choice for evening meal Sadly I won't be staying again

    1
    « Filthy mattress, soiled ...... »

They had a thick hospital style cover on the mattress , impossible to sleep on and shameful they thought it ok to use these to cover up a revolting and soiled mattress. These plastic covers are not hygienic and hold moisture. Have no idea when that was ever cleaned. It kept sliding, as I could not sleep I decided to remove it and sleep on the mattress not imagining it could be so bad. I felt dirty instantly and disgusted that a hotel would deem this mattress fit for any paying guest to sleep on. The stains are visible on the photos I have attached, they cover a huge area and they have attempted to clean them. This mattress should have been dumped long ago. Shame as the staff were friendly and though a hotel that is generally tired it was basically clean as in hovered and polish. I got a refund along with a message referring to myself finding it did not meet my expectations. Would be hard pushed to find anyone who would willingly sleep on that. I took the night receptionist guy to the room to show him and he was shocked at the state of it.

« Very handy and well run »

We stayed here as it was conveniently located off M1/M18 and closest hotel to a wedding we were attending. Reception staff were most welcoming and efficient. Room was clean and in good order. Bar pleasant and well stocked. Breakfast was very well presented and full English nicely cooked. All in all highly recommended and very good value.

    2
    « Loud music »

I booked a room here for a business trip, big mistake. There was a function on with loud music that reverberated through the room until well after midnight. The staff were welcoming and friendly with great service. The room was comfortable and reasonable level of facilities. The shower had very low water pressure. Breakfast a good range of continental and traditional English foods. The only problem with breakfast was the rather weak and tasteless coffee.

    3
« Cheerful but not Cheap »

Stayed for one night b/b as at a local wedding. Breakfast beware: - you take your cup to the buffet and pour yourself tea/coffee from a jug/pot which is nicely stewed. I paid £104 for b/b and would have expected a pot at least, brought to my table. Or am I extremely fussy?

    4
    « Very Nice »

I booked this thinking I wouldn't like it but it was cheap. I booked a suite rather than a normal room which I only paid slightly over £50 for (bed and breakfast) when I arrived the lady on reception was very helpful and friendly. I got to my room which was huge with a very comfy bed and a very large bathroom. I didn't expect this for the price. Breakfast was also nice but not enough juice as a all had gone when I got there (and when asking for coffee, I got tea instead ... no matter really for me). On the whole I would look forward to staying here again.

    4
« Nice place to stay, more pros than cons »

Had a really nice 2-night stay in a Superior room. The room itself was fab and the bathroom really luxurious. The only down-side was the noise, as there were two very loud parties/weddings both nights with loud music playing til past 11.30pm and then a very noisy air-con unit or generator outside loudly buzzing away in the morning from about 6am. The staff were good, the food in the restaurant was really nice and the breakfast was also very good. Overall a good break and we will stay again if in that area, but remember to pack the ear-plugs !!!

    4
    « Nice Hotel »

Great room size and king size bed! Needed a room for just me for one night and felt very comfortable. Hotel was clean and tidy with good facilities. Waitress took a while to acknowledge me at breakfast and wasn't very friendly but other than that food was good!

« Great stop over at the Consort »

Good hotel, needs to have Electric Vehicle Charging points or an outside 13amp plug socket. Hotel nice and clean, with friendly staff. Check in was nice and easy. Restaurant food was nice, cooked breakfast excellent

    2
    « Disappointed »

Pros- Room was clean and tidy, very dated so could do with some money spent on it, but overall clean and tidy. Breakfast was tasty. Staff always pollite, although the lady (dark shoulder length hair) working weds-sat at breakfast time was really lovely, but the young lad working Sunday -Monday not as pleasant, he was pollite enough but didn't have much personality and whipped our plates away while we were still eating. Cons- in dire need of updating (decor) Cobwebs on the bathroom ceiling Toilet roll holder falling off the wall Shower screen black and mouldy at the bottom (made me heave every morning when I was showering) Smell of damp/cheese in the bathroom Foundation on a folded towel (I don't wear foundation) on our first day of arrival. Severe corrosion on the bathroom radiator. Seems like more time was spent on folding Towels and end of toilet rolls rather than cleaning in the bathroom. Noises that sounded like a plane taking off coming from the room next door, at different times of the day and night. Could hear other visitors really loudly from our room, like they were in there with us, they were guests from a wedding and the noise went on til 3.30 am. Fire alarms being set off 3 times during the night from 1.30am (pressumebly by someone smoking in their room) and nothing seemed to be getting done about it. Luckily our room was paid for us, but we'd have been more angry if we'd paid ourselves and definitely won't be returning again. We aren't ones for complaining, pretty laid back and this is really unlike us to leave a review like this.

« Excellent Value in all respects »

We attended this hotel, not for the first time, but for a masonic Lady's Festival evening, and we stayed over at an excellent rate desoite having only travelled 16 miles, was it worth, certainly! Our room was a simple double, ensuite, spotlessly clean and very comfortable; yes we would stay again in similar circumstances. The Festival meal was considering the numbers catered for, very well prepared, served and absolutely enjoyed; portions were much more than adequate and tasty and sufficient, good choices for all including veggie options, drinks at normal hotel prices and service by all staff was excellent. Breakfast (included) was great, a very good and comprehensive choice and satisfying the most hungry member of our very large party. Accessible easily from the M1/A1/M18, good and safe parking. Go again - certainly

    « Service with a smile! »

What a great little hotel this is. We had 3 nights in a very nice room that had everything that anyone could possibly need. At last a comfortable bed! I've been in a few hotels over the years and beds are good but too firm. Lovely nights sleep. What made this hotel so lovely was the fantastic staff. I hope the manager looks after these great people. So helpful & friendly and so efficient. Breakfast was good with no trouble whatsoever and no queues - unlike one place I stayed at in Manchester! Close to open countryside with Sheffield a stones throw away. And of course the Peaks not far either. Great transport links. If I had a quibble it would be about doors banging. So Mr Manager, all you need to do is to put some felt pads on the doors especially wardrobe. And a lick of paint in hallways and voila you get five stars!!! Well done.

    « A double D dilemma.... »

We've stayed at the Consort before. It's a bit old fashioned, but good value and friendly. My wife was running in a race nearby so we opted to stay up there again. Upon arrival the check in is friendly and efficient. We had booked a larger room, advertised as a suite, but it's really just a bigger room. So we went up to 218. It's a nice room. The furniture is a little old fashioned, but it's functional and pleasant. Where it went a bit wrong this time was the rubbish left in the bathroom bin (I don't want to see what someone else has dug out of their ears with a cotton bud). But the BIG surprise was finding a bra in the room, and not just a little one (must've been a big gal). It did seem that housekeeping had done a basic job but not really checked the room properly. We took the offending over-the-shoulder-boulder-holder down to reception and they were apologetic and well humoured about it, and, tbh, stuff does happen so we weren't stressed. The rest of the stay was great. We came back from dinner to find the bar closed to accommodate private parties. The staff brought us drinks to our room, which was great. Breakfast is fab. Well prepared, good choice, and tasty. Happy to stay again. To be honest, we're quite excited to see what we find in the room next time ;)

« Everything good but Wifi »

Stayed here for one night only. Everything clean and tidy and reception staff warm and welcoming. Room(s) were tidy with comfy bed and tea and coffee facilities. Initially was given a room on ground floor 110 and just couldn't get any wifi whatsoever. Explained this to reception who moved me without fuss to room 4 just by the reception area. Initially got a very weak wifi signal and eventually gave up and resorted to the 4G on my phone. Would definitely stay here again but wifi has to be sorted out. Breakfast in the morning was excellent.

    « Always good »

This is a clean comfortable hotel with nice staff and good food. I stay over in the area regularly for work and have come to prefer this as one of the better places. It's not ultra modern like some hotels but very cozy and pleasant. There is always parking and most rooms have electronic shutters should you wish for extra security on ground floor or to shut out minor road noise. I've stayed in smaller doubles and much bigger suites and both equally comfortable.

« OK hotel but poor customer service »

Stayed here for one night on 6th February, requested a quiet room and was allocated one at front, room very adequate. At about 1am there was a loud noise in the room, thought it might have been coming from a cupboard next to the room, telephoned down to reception to see if they could investigate, but no reply, tried the portable number to get through to the night porter also no reply, so went downstairs to try and locate someone, no one to be found, returned to the room to telephone again, still no luck, so went again down a different corridor and managed to find a lady, who was possibly the manager, she came to the room and agreed with the loud noise, she said it would be put on the maintenance log and would move us to another room, so we moved with some of our belongings by this time it was about 2 AM, this room being at a different part of the hotel suffered from loud traffic noise so all in all had about one hours sleep, on check out we advised the receptionist about this (who did not seem very interested) and she said she would get the manager to ring us, which she never did. Have sent two emails still have no reply, telephoned again to check if the emails have been received, was told yes she must be working on it. To date have still not had any reply and can only conclude they must not be bothered about customer relations. was hoping for a small reduction on the room rate for all the inconvenience caused and poor stay, but will never go again or recommend

    « Leisure experience »

A very pleasant stay as always, we have the same function every year and always enjoy the food, the venue, and the overnight stay in really nice bedrooms. The staff are very smartly dressed and always very helpful. The bar is well stocked and service there is always good. The ballroom is very spacious and very comfortable seating. We cannot find a fault in anything.

    « Rosies Love Ball »

Stayed in the Brampton Suite for the night over valentines weekend as i was attending a charity ball there on the 13th Feb. The Service from the receptionist was good really friendly and efficient, the rooms were very clean and comfortable, I booked 5 rooms for different members of my party and all rooms were comfortable, spacious and tidy. Bar staff very efficient also on the night of the event, I would recommend the hotel for a 3 star the hotel is excellent value. thanks

We had our wedding in the brassiere on New Year's Eve and couldn't be happier, Ann-Louise was amazing nothing was too much trouble and she made sure our day went to plan and run smoothly. The food was excellent and the bridal suite with its 4 poster bed is fabulous. Thank you to all staff, we would definitely recommend to anyone.

« Still an OK hotel but hasn't improved »

Our second stay (29/12/15) booked 3 rooms as this was a family trip. Check in staff were not as friendly, reasonably efficient but seemed to be disinterested. One family member was put in a room at the rear of the hotel, where rhe wifi still doesn't work (??!!), the other two rooms were upstairs. We informed the staff and they were able to move my son upstairs, however even upstairs the wifi was patchy and very slow to the point where my wife and I gave up. We had room 211, executive double, a decent size and tv was ok this time. However the light over the bed were not working, there was some small areas mould in the bath, shower and around the toilet cistern, I assume they allow pets because there was dog hair all over the carpet. Also the soap dispensers didn't work properly and there were no face cloths. Overall tidy (mould notwithstanding) but needs maintenance/TLC and attention where cleaning is concerned. The breakfast was very good. Had the same lady serving as last time and credit where it's due, she was friendly and efficient this time. Check out lady was quite good and efficient. Still a good value hotel, a little investment in staff training and maintenance/cleaning might turn it into a very good hotel.

    « Overnight for business »

I needed somewhere for a 1 night stay on business in the Rotherham area and this hotel was actually the cheapest by a mile. I wasn't expecting much at the price but was very pleasantly surprised. Handy location, free parking, great room, good bar and very happy pleasant and helpful staff. Highly recommend.

« Pre race overnight stay »

Close to family and not too far away from Thoresby Hall where i was competing in a running race. Room was large with windows that opened. Heating worked. Slightly tired decor but great value for money for me and my hubby to stay for one night. There was a wedding reception taking place on that evening and some of the guests were less than considerate, but that is no fault of the the hotel. We took a drink in the downstairs bar. Drink choices were very limited, the bar seating was shabby and the lights were really bright. Breakfast was lovely, the morning staff were really lovely. Plenty of choice for breakfast too.

    « Good value »

Very clean, warm and well looked after. The staff were absolutely lovely and very hospitable. Only trouble was that our room was missing a remote control and had no extra towels. Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment but lots of choice on offer.

    « Poor »

Bar - slow Food - tasteless Staff - Young and trying but need direction, it's not hard to take a drinks order from the table rather than directing people to the bar in the corner and when you are a sizeable party worth it given you have 2 staff taking food orders Overall it's a no - I have read the positive reviews and don't get it !!!! We won't be returning

    « Gem of a hotel »

Stay over for work purposes a few times a month in south Yorks and have struggled to find somewhere I feel comfortable and with good rates until I stayed at the Consort. This hotel has lovely, helpful staff and clean comfortable rooms with great breakfast. I will be staying here again I was impressed all round. Hope the rates don't rise too much when the winter offer is over as I'd hate to have to change to another hotel now I've found this place

As a party of 12 we booked at the Consort for our works Christmas meal. We had an absolutely great night. The food was excellent, the entertainment was top quality and the service from all staff was the best it could be. The rooms we pre booked were of a high standard. And I felt more than happy to leave my car in the large car park overnight. We will be back 2016! ??

« Christmas meal and entertainment at the Consort Suite »

This was my first visit to this hotel for a Christmas meal and it was extremely enjoyable. The 4 course meal was superb and the staff were amazing in serving all the many tables of various parties in super quick time but still with attention to detail. All the hot food was hot on arrival and the portions were generous. The chefs behind the scenes did an excellent job! Games of bingo were played for good money prizes and the compere did a really good job of singing Christmas songs and also the music tracks he played seemed to please all ages. From 60's music, disco, line dancing, sequence dancing, Gay Gordons and soft rock, most people got up and danced to something. All in all, a very enjoyable day and thank you to all the staff who made it possible.

« Fourth xmas at the Consort Suite. »

Returned again for our walking groups xmas outing, as it is hard to beat. Didn't fail to impress again, a faultless night, a credit to the staff, who were pleasant, obviously well trained and organised. To offer a choice of menu and deliver good food and service to so many, takes some beating, well done to you all and see you next year, just out of interest, if you read this, how many were you catering for on the 12th December.

Very nice hotel, very clean and well presented! All the staff were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble! « Absolutely astounded !! »

I am not one to write reviews, positive or negative, but I desperately feel the need to comment on recent reviews. In particular the Christmas party night I attended on the 4th december. This was my umpteenth visit to this hotel for various occasions over the years and I have always received excellent service from all the staff. I attended the Christmas party on the 4th December with 7 work colleagues. We had a wonderful time, the food was hot and plentiful, served swiftly and excellent value for money. To say the staff was under tremendous amount of pressure to serve over 200+ people, they did an excellent job. There was plenty of bar staff working on the bar and service was very good. Excellent wine !! The band and the dj on the evening were excellent, we danced all night to a very good mix of music. Please ignore previous reviews of this hotel. Some people are never satisfied !!! See you on the 18th Consort Hotel. Looking forward to it !!!

« Lovely hotel dreadful service »

On arriving at the Consort Hotel we were pleased with the outlook of the hotel Check in was pleasant by a young lady with a smile on her face On checking into our rooms which we had booked one double for ourselves and one twin for our teenage children it became apparent that they were landings apart,on booking together one would have thought they would have been next to each other. The rooms were very clean and spacious with lovely decor. We left the hotel at 7pm to go into Sheffield to visit family and on our return we could not find a parking space as the car park was full up and it was clear that there was a big function on in the hotel, the music was very loud. After driving around the car park wondering where we were going to park for the night luckily a space became available. We went to our bedrooms after a tiring day travelling and with visiting family only to be woken up by arguing and banging of doors in the hotel, our children's bedroom was over the function room and they were kept awake until 2pm by constant booming of the music, arguments, raised voices and banging of doors. Not a very relaxing time for any of us. We went down for breakfast and was greeted by a young man, and also a lady who both appeared to 'not want to even be in the room' let alone serve guests a nice breakfast. They were rude and unfriendly. The breakfast was nice tho so that was a bonus ! There was no good morning and no goodbye absolutely dreadful. On our way to check out we came across other guests who also said about the noise etc in the hotel that night. On check out the very pleasant young lady was very apologetic about the noise in the hotel, she was on reception on her own and had a lot of people to check out but she still had a smile on her face ! This was a lovely hotel but I do think a 'staff training day' would be helpful. It costs us guests a lot of money to stay at your hotel Manners and politeness costs nothing ! It would have been wise to put guests who were at the function over the function room and other guests at the hotel further away Our children were not part of the party but may well have been as the noise was dreadful. A quiet weekend away was spoilt and we had travelled a long way from the south west to stay here. Never again !

    « Christmas dinner disco »

What a fantastic evening we had!!!! Great value for money. I was pleasantly surprised to see that even on a table of 20 we didn't have to pre order our meals- we had a choice of 5 starters, 5 mains and puddings- and even a soup intermediate and tea and coffee- I wasn't expecting that at all for the £25 we paid- everything came out hot and plenty of it- I was stuffed!!!! Drinks were reasonable, and the bar was well staffed (something that doesn't happen often in hotels) especially with a 1am disco which meant we didn't ever have to wait long. Looking forward to return in January- as all of our friends said what a fab night we had X

    « christmas party »

We went to the Consort for our annual Christmas party lunch and the service was fab, our waiter/waitress for the day was Ben and Nora and nothing was to much trouble for them. Despite the place being full and them being very busy they fetched extra veg and gravy and chatted and joined in with our party atmosphere. The entertainment although cheesy was good and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

    « Bit Like Fawlty Towers ! »

From the moment I arrived and was unable to get into my room the fun started. It took different keys before I got in my room after a long 3 hour journey.Room was very old in decor and taste,I asked for a double bed and got 2 singles pushed together, kept falling down in the middle.Ordered a BLT sandwich, got a slice of bacon, slice of tomato and piece of lettuce in a burger bun,£4,85 !The towel rail was constantly on,unable to turn off in bathroom, felt like a sauna every time I went in.Breakfast following day was a basic english breakfast, 1 piece of everything and a small portion of beans.Onto evening meal,I ordered the curry and rice .. It was luke warm and the rice was all mashed up,ordered chips as well .. I had to re order as the waiter forgot them.I was told they had a new chef by the same person prior to ordering, then when I returned it as it was cold he backtracked saying it was a new assistant not a new chef.It wasn't as if it was full or busy but he was stressing out due to having to serve the meals and then having to serve at the bar as a coach party had come in to the other room and they were using the bar.He even said to me " its like Fawlty Towers here " !! It had to be seen to be believed.I did get a free garlic bread and a beer so was not too awful, but for the type of hotel it was I considered it very basic .. typical business hotel,no amenities etc inside nor in the area.Customer service was poor at checkout,no questions asked about my stay etc.Needless to say I won't be returning.

    « Drunken Guests Arguing »

Visited for an overnight stay whilst Christmas shopping in the area. Receptionist at check in very informative and pleasant, room very large and clean. Around 00.30 arguments started with drunken guests in next room, door slamming, people coming and going until 0430 finally got some sleep. Service at breakfast by certain staff was very poor with no interaction, and food wasn't up to much but at least the recovering drunks didn't seem to mind. Why don't hotels put all the party over night stayers in one area of the hotel?

    « Yearly Christmas party »

Always look forward to our yearly Christmas party and over the years have visited many venues. But not this one and never again!! Although the set meal was not expensive at 26,50 per person the quality of the food was extremely poor. I am aware they cater for a large number , however to serve 3 better quality courses instead of. 4 poor quality courses I feel would be a start , the starter I had was a very thin sliver of very poor quality pate with packet melba toast 2 very small pieces. The soup tasted tinned I had minestrone and the carrots in it were cold and hard. The main course ......roast potatoes were ok but the rest was un edible the beef I had was a grey brown colour very overcooked and had no flavour and it was covered in a thick tomato sauce which as a traditional Sunday toast did not complement the vegetables.given the choice I would have preferred gravy .the pudding was a chocolate type mousse on a soggy biscuit bottom which my child could have bettered using a packet mix. To top it all we ordered a selection of bottles of wine for the table at an average price of 19 pounds each only for it to be served in the old fashioned thick glassed half circle wine glass aka 1970 s. I cant believe an establishment like this does not have decent wine glasses!! Needless to say we will Not be booking here next year. !

« Tasteless food! Indifferent staff! »

We visited for a private function mid week. The food had all been people ordered and for starters we had prawn cocktail. Served on a plate, not even in a dish, not really much to say about it really. We had just about finished this when they arrived with the wine, which to me should have been poured beforehand. For mains it was salmon in a prawn sauce, or that was the description! The waitress served the salmon on to our plates but we had to ask her for the sauce as she wasn't going to bother, then had to go off to find a spoon to serve this? Maybe we shouldn't have bothered as there wasn't one prawn in sight (three of us had this) and absolutely no taste of prawns in the White sauce and added to that the salmon was tasteless too. Vegetables were bland too. The only good thing about the meal was the cheese and crackers which would be hard to mess up! The staff were quite indifferent, not a smile between them. We commented on the fact that maybe a some of them ought to look elsewhere if they were that unhappy in their work. Generally my reviews are usually very good and very positive but I'm afraid this place has gone seriously downhill. I make this comments as we have been coming to this function for quite a few years and the food has been so much better and the staff have been friendly. It was nice to meet old friends that we don't see often but I'm afraid my husband and I have already decided that we won't be going along next year!

    « Miserable Hotel ! »

Came here for my graduation ceremony in Sheffield. The receptionist was lovely and welcoming yet unfortunately it went down hill from there. Arrived in the room and discovered that the wifi was broken told the staff but was told that they couldn't do anything about it. Woke up in the morning to discover a one drip shower absolutely disgusting for a hotel. Then quickly dressed for breakfast downstairs. Went down to breakfast to have a gentlemen waiter just look at me he didn't take my order until I approached him and then was rudely barked and thrown my breakfast on the table. Worst hotel experience ever this gets a poor instead of terrible simply for cheerful receptionist. If you have to go to the hotel ask for the executive room as its the room with a good shower.

    « No wifi in room 110 »

Stayed here on business. Arrived at 4pm and wanted to relax in the bar and catch up with some emails and other work but was told the bar doesn't open until 6pm - very odd given that every single other hotel I have stayed at this year (well over 100 including many other Best Westerns) has a bar open from lunchtime until late. Never mind, I thought, I would just stay in my room and work in there...except there was no wifi signal at all in my room. Now I am not asking for a 100MB fibre optic connection, but just a basic wifi connection for free, as Best Western promise is available in all hotels. I will be complaining directly to Best Western about this issue because this holiday should not be part of the group if it cannot offer the facilities that the group promise are available in all their hotels. Added to this, the food is poor quality microwave-cooked rubbish and I had to wait in the empty and unattended bar for over ten minutes before a member of staff appeared to serve me. The chair in my room was rickety and falling apart and the bathroom was festooned with hairs of an unsavoury nature. If you stay here, don't say you weren't warned.

    « Clean and welcoming »

I visited this hotel on business within the area. Hotel was clean, and staff were very friendly. I prefer my bed to be firm, which was not the case here, meaning that I didn't sleep very well. Breakfast was reasonable in terms of variety, however for evening meals the food wasn't great. Consisted of cheap items and of a very bland taste. I probably wouldn't stay here again, but not bad cost wise

« does the job, well »

Stayed here Mon-Fri for several weeks whilst working in glamorous Rotherham. Very nice hotel for only 3 stars. Decent-sized rooms, clean, comfortable, nice staff etc. Decent cooked breakfast, and choice of continental meats and cheeses. Evening meal a bit mainstream despite the restaurant being called LeBrasserie. Bar if you want, but bland electric bitter. Probably OK for lager drinkers. Good value.

    « Consort Hotel »

The hotel was excellent value for money. Everything was clean and nicely decorated. The king size bed was extremely comfortable, especially after such a long drive. The was a good choice of food, both for an evening meal and breakfast. Very helpful, friendly staff and lots of on-site parking. We would certainly stay there again.

« Comfortable Room at Reasonable Price »

Stayed two nights here and the room was clean, comfortable reasonable storage for clothes etc. Room had good lighting something I've found lacking in many hotels. Slight issue with the water pressure in the shower but was adequite. The only real issue I had was with the shower screen over bath which didn't fit too well and caused water to puddle on the floor. Reported both to receptionist who took notes and gave the impression that it would be followed up.

    « OK Hotel »

Came here on business with room paid for by company colleague (in whose name the booking appeared!). it was Ok - nothing to write home about nothing to criticize vehmently. Room was ok bar big scratch on cupboard which looked unsightly. Good size car park. Did not use bar as arrived late. Staff friendly enough. Breakfast following morning slightly above average in terms of the "full English" bacon sausage and egg. I won't be rushing back to take my wife for a romantic weekend here - but I might use it again if working in the area

Didn't have to worry about a thing every was very well organised and the day was fantastic. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The wedding breakfast was brilliant and the food was amazing. Wedding guests said the food was beautiful and most of our wedding party stayed at the hotel and the rooms were good value for money. I would recommend this hotel to any brides looking for a venue for their special day.
