    « Corporate stay »

Nice good size corporate rooms... friendly staff and people and location between Napier and Hastings is very good. Central to all needs. Food options are plenty. Area has some good walks. Flat to walk around.

    « Comfortable and friendly »

We enjoyed our night stay here. Comfortable , clean and friendly place to be. The unit was extremely spacious and the shower/bathroom area modern and fresh. A nice breakfast was delivered . Location is a short walk from Taradale town centre which has a lot of eating options. Taradale is a good central location to wineries and beautiful parts of the Hawkes Bay, easily accessible by the great network of cycleways.

« Not what we were looking for »

Our booking for this motel was made by a travel organisation, and it was not at all what we were looking for. It is located well out of Napier itself, in Taradale. As tourists, it was not close to the things we wanted to see. It would be better suited to people in the area on business or looking for an overnight stopover while travelling on further. To be fair, that is not the fault of the Motel owner and we should have looked into the location a little more ourselves - just that we'd used the organisation before and trusted their judgement, which wasn't right for us on this occasion. The room we were offered was quite big and seemed clean and tidy on our first impression, however it had a musty damp smell. As we unloaded our car we were continually watched by other residents sitting outside their units smoking, and we just did not get a good feel for the place. We went off looking for something to eat, ended up back in Napier itself which is so much nicer, so we found alternative accommodation there and checked out from the Ballina. Unfortunately we lost the cost of our prepaid accommodation but we just decided it was more important to enjoy our holiday

    « Very nice rooms »

I stayed here during a work trip and it was the best motel I've stayed at for awhile! The rooms are very well appointed. Comfortable beds, quiet rooms and a spa bath made me very comfortable. Great to have a nice tidy kitchenette too. The manager was very friendly and we enjoyed the cooked breakfast delivered to our rooms. Very handy to the stadium and to restaurants too.

    « Good service »

Clean and tidy motel, with nice fresh linen. A little tired and possibly need of a bit of a makeover. Sky didn't work that well in our room, but others in our group had no problems. Friendly staff and room provided everything we needed. I thought it was overpriced compared to other places we have stayed.

    « Very good service »

Stayed in a studio unit. Good clean room with comfy bed. Air conditioned and with sky TV . Well located for central Taradale. Plenty of parking but parking can be a bit tight if near the office Very helpful manager.

    « Great place! »

We were made very welcome at this motel and the manager was most helpful. He advised us on places of interest and gave us good directions to find our way. The accommodation was first class and the jacuzzi bath was a bonus. The unit we had had one bedroom with twin beds and there was a king size bed in the lounge area. The lounge was a good size and the kitchen area adequate. This motel is well placed to visit the wineries and Napier town. It was nice to have some outdoor space with table and chairs . Free wife available. Would highly recommend a stay here.

« Central for all HB attractions »

We were in the Hawkes Bay to attend a concert at Black Barn winery, Havelock North. We selected the Ballina as they still had reasonable rates when available accommodation in HB was in limited supply due to multiple events that weekend meaning very high demand. It was also central for us with family in Napier, and friends in Twyford- within 10 mins in either direction to each. Perfect! We dined in Ahuriri, Napier close by. Everything is so accessible as the Ballina is 1-2 mins off the expressway taking you either north to Napier, or South to Hastings and Havelock North. There are wonderful wineries and beaches in all directions. The room was spacious, with a comfortable bed. Air conditioning unit in room was a bonus. We were upstairs so had a small, sun drenched private balcony with outdoor furniture. It was lovely. The place was quiet (no road noise as you will get on the Marine Parade in Napier). We slept very well and found this motel met our needs for the stay.

« Everything you need here »

We have stayed at the Ballina on several occasions and have always had the best of service. Lovely clean, quiet rooms with a king size bed, balcony,air-conditioning which is great on a hot day. Even though this motel is on the main road the units are very quiet. You couldn't ask for more. Staff go out of their way not to impose on your space. The Taradale shopping centre is only a 5 minutes walk away.

« Ideal for visiting Napier »

My wife and I stayed here for one night en route from Napier to Wellington in suite 12. This room was on the top floor of two. It comprised a kitchenette, bedroom/lounge and bathroom. The room also had a balcony with table and two chairs and a pleasant view towards the road and adjacent gardens and houses. The bedroom/lounge had a very comfortable queen bed, sofa, desk, flat screen TV, wardrobe, dressing table and table. The kitchenette contained a microwave, no cooking rings, coffee plunger, plenty of tea and coffee, fridge, toaster, kettle, pepper and salt, chopping board and glass dish and oven 'mitt'. The bathroom comprised a spa bath, WC and wash basin. The room had a normal rubbish bin and another bin for recyclables. The bedroom/lounge had plenty of storage space and there was a clock/radio. One very annoying feature of the room was that power is provided by inserting your room key in a slot by the entrance. This means that having set the correct time on the clock, if you go out, the time is lost and you have to reset the time. Lighting over the sofa was not good, we found the lights over the bed to be better for reading. There was no in-room safe. Lighting in the bathroom was very good. The spa bath had a shower over it which was cleverly angled so that all the water fell into the bath and not on the floor. Toiletries provided were shampoo, bath gel, conditioner and tissues. Wifi was good. Speedy without any interruptions. We were given a voucher and access code for 1GB. This was plenty for us, we are not sure what would happen if you needed more. The hotel had no restaurant. However there are several a few minutes walk away in Taradale. We ate at The Store which was good. Hotel information states it has a selection of microwaves meals available at reception. We liked this hotel. It was ideally located, being near Napier. The room was very light and airy. We would certainly return if we were in the area.

« Very comfortable place to call home »

My husband & I stayed here for 1 night on our trip around NZ and found it to be neat and clean and with many comforts for a "home away from home" experience. It is perfectly situated for visiting several of the area's wineries, including NZ's oldest winery, "Mission" & "Church Road." Good customer service and the best TV selection we've found in NZ added to our comfort. Also is near several good restaurants- we recommend the Thai Lotus.

    « Positive experience »

I have stayed here twice now on business. While the rooms are modest they are clean. The best thing for me on both occasions has been the helpfulness of the manager. He has gone out of his way to meet my requirements. Thanks

    « Watch out - terrible experience »

My husband & I recently travelled to NZ on a last minute itinerary (due to work constraints) Wanted a luxurious accommodation for a belated 25th anniversary week trip when staying for 3 nights near Napier/Hastings for last 3 nites of our trip. First part Auckland Rotorua we had fantastic suites & upgraded (due to all hotels being not busy). On Nite of 30Nov we made a "reservation" with "zero cancellation fee" online. When we arrived we realised room was "basic" (certainly not I would expect when paying 200 per Nite) and so far away from the tourist areas so we didn't even take our gear out of car & decided we would not like it ther that we went & found better accom then came back within less than 2hour to "check out". Alto u there was no "cancellation" fee on our booking (only made it 1.5day before arrival) we expected we might have to pay 1 Nite. Manager said we had to pay all 3 nites. We discussed it & said we could understand if they were full & if we had held reservation for a long time, but since it was a last minute reservation we did not think that was fair. We explained that Thi "standard of room vs price & location we would prefer to leave as it was our anniversary trip & did not want to ruin our trip staying in a "standard" room with no view no luxury & it was much further away from tourist centres than expected. He forced us "under duress" to pay 3nites. I paid it just to get away. So recommend to all this is only basic "motel" & the rooms are dated & location be wary. Horrible experience. However we did end up staying at Art Deco in heart of Napier (with really luxurious room) to 2/3 price, and enjoyed its location & staff & service so much that we stayed at Napier at Art Deco an extra Nite in the end. The moral to this story. Unless you want basic outdated motel accom, then don't stay here. And don't prebook using any interest site as this motel does not honour the sites "nil cancellation fee". BE WARY...

    « Clean and friendly »

Nice host and clean rooms this hotel was about 10 mins from Napier city. Next to the Duke of Glocester pub which offered good food and beer. Living area a good size but rooms a bit small with little access either side. Wifi a bit flukey in our room.

    « Comfortable Bed »

We booked into this motel for 9 nights as it was close to our family whom we were visiting, the room was very clean I must say and the king sized bed really comfortable, the sheets and towels were changed as often as we wanted. The place was rather dated but it served our purpose. The downside was that we requested a balcony so we could sit out of an evening but the light on the balcony didn't work, I did report it to Vicky but nothing was done! Just as nothing was done about the ceiling lights on the exterior corridor, every evening we came back it was so dark we couldnt find the lock in the door to put the key in, again this was mentioned to Vicky but her reply was that the lighrs are on a time switch and go out at 9:30pm, not a lot of good when it gets dark around that time, I reiterated that we couldnt see, she said she would mention it but again nothing was done. Not sure if we would go back.

« Great location and clean as... »

We choose this location as it was close to our conference venue at Pettigrew Arena. We didn't know what to expect but were very impressed. Clean, spacious rooms with comfy beds. As a corporate traveller, travelling with colleagues it was great to have a 2 bedroom unit with 2 bathrooms. Good kitchen facilities, amazingly friendly service. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend.

« Good location and quality »

This place was perfect for us as we were attending a wedding at the Mission Estate Vineyards. was but a hop skip and a jump to get there. It isn't really too far either from Napier, if you wanted to have a quick look around there and venture into town. It was also nice as it was away from the other hustle and bustle of the city. Accommodation was very good. Good sized rooms, high quality amenities. Has a small kitchenette, and a good supply of coffee/teas/hotchocolate. I like they give you real milk as well instead of the fake stuff. One small detail, was that the cupboard where the iron and ironing board was kept sat tight in a corner where the side table had to be moved to get to it. Just a small inconvenience. Shower was the whole bathroom, no curtains or glass, so the floors got a bit wet and a little dangerous. But we just put towels on the floor and the supplied more than needed.

« Comfortable space for sharing with friends »

The layout works well for 3 or 4 people traveling together. Have units with either a single or a double bed in the living area. Waking distance to restaurants and wine bar, and a nice morning run up the hill with a whole foods cafe for juice on the way back. Ask at reception for the map.

« Spotless, modern and super-friendly and hospitable »

Our sporting group spent 5 days at the Ballina. We were very impressed with the facilities and location. Everything was modern and the decor is tasteful. Tim could not have been more helpful. The teens loved the wi-fi and I loved the spa bath and heated mirror. Ballina is quiet and we had no complaints.

    « Clean but dated »

We stayed for Easter. The location was very convenient for visiting friends and wineries over the holidays. The room was spacious and clean, but a bit worn and dated. Unfortunately we were in the first room, so had the road noise and the repetitive noise of the reception buzzer. Ask for a room at the back if you get a chance.
