Best Western Carlton Suites

We chose this hotel because it had an indoor pool. DONT! The water in the pool was dirty, the walls were grimy and there were bugs floating on the surface of the water. Beds were comfortable enough, room was clean, although the bathroom needed attention. Breakfast was adequate, coffee was good and always available.

Overall good stay. Courteous and attentive staff. Room appeared clean and was comfortable. Adequate parking spaces for single vehicles. Saw several vehicles with trailers parked taking additional spaces. Folks with trailers are accommodated. Horrible internet.

Very run down and outdated furniture in our “suite” on the third floor. Both the sleeper sofa and rolling desk chair were broken and uncomfortable to sit on. We did not experience any problems with cleanliness. The pool was closed, as seems to be the case in so many hotels that we visit in January. The lobby and breakfast area look bright, clean, and modern, but once you get to the room, it's another story. There is no ADA entrance to the front lobby for guests with mobility challenges. It is a curb without a railing for support. A small ramped entrance at side door D must be used. There are two marked handicapped parking spaces at that door. The elevator is at the very back of the hotel. You must walk down the entire length of first floor hallway to reach the elevator. There is a parking lot exit near that back elevator, but it has three or four steps to climb to reach the parking lot. The gentlemen running the check-in and breakfast room were very pleasant and kind, but were also difficult to understand. I now realize why the room rate was such a great deal.

This is a very well maintained hotel. Rooms are clean and well supplied. Breakfast is typical BW, but better. Food was fresh and hot; buffet was well maintained. Comfortable bed. Location good with many restaurants nearby.

My family and I stopped in to this Best Western while passing through Birmingham, AL. Location is right off the highway. Hotel rooms were clean, and location has lots of restaurants to choose from for the family!

Beware an additional charge of $100 dollars will be held on your credit card for room damages. Was not informed of any additional holds when checking in or out. The motel room was ok , but no tv schedule to tell local stations

Very bad experience. Internet did not work. Room cleanliness was terrible. Roach ran across the floor. Bed very uncomfortable. I would not recommend this place at all. If it was not so late when I arrived and realized all this, I would have demanded a refund and changed hotels.

The room was clean but the building is older. A broken and unrepaired towel bar left on the wall was unsightly. The pool's steps were visibly dirty and felt slimy so we didn't use the pool. The pool was the main reason for booking at this site along with the value. The breakfast provided a variety of foods and was average. Always plenty and available. The staff were friendly and helpful. Good work out room and great location. Near to all we wanted to do.

This is clearly an average hotel. Unfortunately, due to its proximity, it is getting a lot of one nighters packing the rooms full of family members to transverse from northern United States to southern United States. Checking in was quite the cluster of 18 to 20 people booking just a couple of the rooms. However, our interaction with MONTU was absolutely outstanding. 5 Stars is not enough! If ever, I use this hotel again, I hope MONTU is there!! GREAT REPRESENTATION OF THIS HOTEL!

Desk agent was the best! Room was clean and very nice. Will stay here again! We got in late night after traveling half way home. The agent was so sweet and we had an amazing conversation as I am a hotel manager. Love BW!

This was the worst of all the hotels in our cross-country road trip. On an extremely hot day we checked into our rooms with the AC off. It took hours to cool down the room and the AC was so loud, probably because it had to work so hard to cool the room. The halls didn't have AC either. The desk chair was broken. The tv remote didn't work. The first room we were given reeked of food and we had to have the room changed. Beds were uncomfortable. Would never stay again.

My wife and I stayed here for one night when we were returning home from our yearly FL vacation. We always stay at the Best Westerns when we can to get the loyalty points as I am a Rewards member. The room, a king suite, was somewhat unique with the way it was laid out but it was still ok as it suited our needs for the one night. Only thing I noted that was odd about the room is when we checked in I went to the room to check it out before unloading our luggage and found the TV had been left turned on. Other than that the room as I said before was ok. The bed was comfortable and the TV and internet both worked well. The complimentary hot breakfast was the standard fare but they also had hot biscuits and sausage gravy available, which was real good. I also noted that they had plenty of luggage carts available for guests to use as I had no trouble at all finding one.

Staying here was a terrible experience. First the people at the front desk were rude, the fridge was unplugged in our room, and they came and knocked on our door several times for what seemed like no reason. The laundry room closed early and they had no detergent so you had to buy it elsewhere and wash clothes by 7 if you wanted to wash. Ridiculous. The bed was the WORST thing about the stay. Most uncomfortable bed in all the places I've stayed. When I told the manager about the uncomfortable bed, he said some rooms were just not “upgraded.” Unacceptable excuse for a bed that belonged in the trash. Also housekeeping tried to open my door without knocking. At 8 am even though I had the do not disturb sign they still tried to come and clean the room in the morning. I felt like every time I tried to relax, they were knocking. They also charged a $200 deposit which I didn't get charged that at any hotel in any of the other states or locations. Overall- we didn't get the rest or experience we wanted.

We had a great stay, the staff was very helpful and pleasant. This is our 3rd stay in 2 years. We see the same employees. This says something about the employer. Breakfast buffet was fresh and good. The kids always love the indoor pool! There are several eating places within walking distance.

Owner is very biased and racism is at it's finest' don't stay there for free! Worst service ever, they have roaches and will keep your deposit if your not white! Our room was the only one checked and he kept our deposit when we cleaned our own room! Owner is very disrespectful!

This is a horrible hotel. Nasty rooms. House cleaning does a terrible job. Customer service is HORRIBLE! Old blood on sheets toilet stopped up. Sink stopped up remote broken. Charged $100 deposit fee for big confetti that I asked prior to using and was told it was okay; that was easily cleaned up before I even checked out and manager was a total RACIST man who was the most rudest foreigner I have ever met! My daughter had her birthday here only due to the inside pool otherwise I would have never booked her in the first place. I would never recommend bringing a family or yourself here! If you do please record every interaction with customer service or they will LIE to save themselves. -0 rating!

Very nice hotel... clean, pleasant staff, comfortable bed. This hotel is located off of a very busy road. The hotel was very quiet and felt very safe, but it was off the main road a bit. The breakfast area was clean but lacked protein and fruit. There were plenty of nice carbs available. I would suggest hard boiled eggs and cut up fruit. Many elderly people can't eat whole apples. I'd certainly stay here again.

Check in was standard. The front desk help was not overly friendly. I had to pay a 100$ deposit on top of the room fee that will at some point be refunded to my cc. On the internet the rooms look newly remodeled, clean and nice. The reality is an old building with some lipstick. Mattress was old. Bedding was old and had a burn mark on it. Floors are cold laminate. The duvet sheet system is just wrapped around an old blanket. My tv remote was missing the battery cover and had the batteries taped in. And there was a cockroach crawling along the top sheet of the bed. Over all this hotel did not meet my expectations of a best western. It grossed me out overall.

Room had a pile of dirty towels stuffed in a drawer in the dresser. In the top drawer of our nightstand there was a pair of someone's dirty socks and brown ooze on the bottom of the drawer. Coffee pot had someone's old coffee used and wet in it. Sheets were dirty with blood and brown spots (we slept on top of the sheets). We checked in around 3:00 but had business to attend to when we returned to the room late this is what we found. Toilet was very loose on the base almost severed from the floor. The toilet rocked when I sat down and nearly tipped. Fan and light in bathroom made a very loud noise and the light flickered and sounded bad so we did not use the light or the fan in the bathroom. We have been members of Best Western for a few years and never had such a bad and dirty experience.

The hotel was in a convenient location, with several restraunt locations nearby, mainly of the fast food variety, but a number of casual locations, as well as a McAllister's Deli for a little more "healthy" foods than the average hamburgers menu. There was a Wal-Mart nearby for any forgotten last minute things. The hotel was nice and clean, the service was excellent, it had a decent breakfast in the mornings. The room was two queen beds with a hardwood floor. It had two televisions, one in the bedroom area, and another in the "living room" area that had a work table and chair, a sofa and coffee table, as well as a microwave and small refrigerator. An ice maching was on our fllor, not sure if they were on every floor. It has an indoor pool, but we never made it to the pool. Overall I'd say we definitely got our money's worth.

Very friendly and welcoming staff. Hotel Room was spacious and VERY CLEAN. Micro-fridge and coffee maker in room. Very well furnished with updated furnishings. Very comfortable bed,slept great. Indoor pool and fitness center available. Free hot breakfast.

As soon as I walked in was greeted with cockroaches crawling out from under the covers of the bed. The front staff attitude was horrendous when confronted with the issue. I was told initially there may not be anything done about it. The replacement room reaked of cigarette smoke, the HVAC was unable to adjust temperature. And I was charged twice for a single night stay!

Huge room was great for our family . We had a room with three king beds , which was great for our family . There were only two things I could complain about . One outlet next to our bed didn't work and flaky paint on the bathroom ceiling. But still a very nice room .

Our room was huge. It had obviously been remodeled, and there were enough tell-tale signs to show it, but it was exceptionally clean in every respect. The entire property, though showing its age a little, was very clean. We didn't hear any neighbors during our 3-night stay, although we passed many of them in our hallway. The beds weren't the lavish luxury beds that some hotels have, but they gave us a full, comfortable sleep every night. The sitting area has only a love-seat in it, and the desk has a chair. Another chair or two would have made it more accommodating. Breakfast items were consistent each day and all good.

This is a hotel that is lipstick on a pig. It is in dire need of serious upgrade. Looks like some things have been done and others not. We checked in to a king suite. The bed was literally 8 inches thick and creaked when sitting on it from all the coils. Looked at a double bed suite and the beds are like you would expect from best western. But the single a/c can barely keep pace with a room this large, the outlet by the sink is melted and does not work, there are no USB chargers, three lights are out, the sink faucet completely moves around and out of it's spot when used, the walls are all scuffed up, missing baseboards in places, the shower was converted from a tub yet has the same valve with tub outlet and the shower pan is filthy looking(may be cheap and stains), the TV by bed does not change volume, and the two TV's are on different channels when each is on the same remote channel, and the list of TV channels does not match what the TV does. The front desk person was very helpful and caring when we switched rooms(reason for two stars).

Dirty rooms, broken shower curtain rod, moldy HVAC unit, dusty rooms, greasy slime on telephone in room. Horrible bland breakfast. I stayed at this Best Western for several days in April 2022 and it was absolutely fine. Something has gone very wrong in the past 5 months and the place has gone way down hill. I would not stay again until repairs are made and attention is given to properly maintaining the property.

My dad and I only stayed 1 night. We were passing through to go farther South. Check in was easy and the front desk clerk was very helpful and friendly. The room and bathroom were clean. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was decent and there was a good selection to eat. I really don't have any complaints. I would stay here again.

Passing through this area to go to the heart of New Orleans. This was our first stop and it was ok. Nice area, but we only stayed one night. The water pressure in our room was poor, but we managed the best we could.

Be ready to leave at 10:30am Door Knocks and Phone calls will ensue. Even after requesting additional time to exit an Accessible Room with my Disabled spouse, I felt the additional Door Knocks and Room visits were unnecessary and harassing in nature.

Wonderful stay. Pool could be cleaner. Great breakfast. Nice and attentive staff. Maybe offer two meets at breakfast and two waffle makers instead of one. Room was nice but our TV had sound only on certain channels.

There were roaches in ma fridge, so me and the gang had a little late night dinner together. Not only that there were bed bugs crawling on my dearest friend Vivian, this was super disappointing. We saw cockroaches mating in the bathtub, this was very disturbing. Never Returning. I saw jet black pubes in the beds., I really questioned this.

Nice quiet clean hotel with good management and a nice breakfast Very responsive to issues, a lot of restaurants near the hotel, they are in walking distance. The Airport is only 15 minutes away, also walmart and Sam's club

We found this hotel a bit dated. The room arrangement was a bit odd with a very small bathroom. Otherwise, the bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet. The breakfast offered hot items, waffles,cereal,breads and yogurt.

Not the cleanliness pledge as advertised. Inconvenient parking ratio to rooms, one elevator. Unable to unload your car without numerous trips. Don't bother; there are other hotels in this suburb of Birmingham that might serve you better.

Our stay was good. It's not updated with little things like wifi charge ability, bring your wire & plug in. Most update have it set up where you can just plug your wire in to charge. I didn't bringing mine had to go buy one. I'm disabled asked for bottom floor and close as possible, they put me on 3rd floor, all the way at end of hall, partner had to get my oxygen machine there, and it's heavy! Pool and gym close at 9p.m., so by the time you get unwound from drive, get food, eat.. partner was disappointed no gym no pool, they should do later like maybe 11p.m. rated low because lack of consideration with my disability. Need better attention when guest says I lose breath quickly please get me close and they put you the furthest, not good service on that! Small things, room very clean, bed comfortable!

Mechanical noise in the room kept me awake all night, when I told the frontand asked for a refund they said that was just the way the building was built, too bad. I asked how they would feel as a customer and my situation and he just laughed.

The outside of the hotel was very clean.The lobby was very colorful and appealing.The front desk clerk was extremely slow. The smell of cigarette smoke was a turn off while walking down the hallway.I loved the hardwood flooring the room. I did not like that I could not control the temperature in the room.

My Husband and Family went on a 3 week vacation back in August and September. We mostly stayed at Best Western Plus. So when I had to go 4 hours to a doctor's appointment. I chose to stay at the Best Western Suites because of the fact that the rooms have refrigerators and microwave in most of their rooms. I had 1 bad experiences with the motel in Bakersfield CA but as of now I want stay at no other motel.

We stayed at this hotel while traveling to Destin. It was late when he checked in so we just needed a place to crash for the night. Our room was clean but just seemed cheap. The bed was an uncomfortable spring mattress. The breakfast was just grab and go options due to COVID. It was right off the highway and in a safe area. This hotel is alright if you can get it for around $75, but no more than that.

A very enjoyable experience staying here staff polite and professional room itself was spacious you have a lounge area and a small kitchenette which is nice that you can have space to do things. Swimming pool was open nice to do some exercise they do have the warm breakfast on other as well which is nice. Would certainly go back.

I ended up staying in two rooms (I left the first room after discovering a large cockroach in the bathroom) for a one-night stay. Both showers had hair on the walls (the second one had probably a dozen or so hairs stuck to the wall), but the rooms were otherwise clean, minus the presence of the cockroach. The person who checked me in was friendly and helpful, but the overnight desk associate tried to send me back to my room after I found the roach rather than help me find a different room to stay in. Both rooms were also humid even with the air on, and the flooring looked warped in both rooms.

The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean. Very pleased. Great value. The hotel is also located in great location near to shopping and food. I travel for business. I will be back regularly each month.

It wasn't the fanciest hotel I've ever been in but it got the job done. The staff were nice, which is big for me, and it's reasonably priced. The room itself is not anything to write home about, as it has a medicinal smell and the TV is oddly placed where you can't really see it from either the living area or the bed without tilting your head. However, the hardwood floors are a nice touch and the bed was comfortable. Decent breakfast as well. Looking for amenities? Keep looking. Looking for a reasonable price and a good place to sleep that's near the highway and some restaurants? Then this is your place!

Room and overall hotel was extremely under disrepair. It was also very dirty inside and outside. Area was very depressed even though located near freeway. Key card had to be replaced 4 times because it stopped working and I did not have it near my phone.

There were some issues such as the tub was peeling so my daughters were covered in paint chips after a bath....but the worst part was how they wouldn't allow a late check out. My 10 month old is in the children's hospital very sick and she will have tests done. Depending on those test results, we may need to stay another night or run my daughters to family and come back the next night to stay longer while our baby is in the hospital. I was abruptly interrupted as I was trying to explain the situation and informed absolutely no early check ins or late check outs. So instead of allowing us the extra hour to hear back from doctors and know if we need another nights stay tomorrow night, we will just meet their extremely strict checkout hours and never come back....I'm sure there are plenty of hotels around Birmingham that would be far more gracious given the circumstances we are dealing with.

Great location near everything we wanted to do. Room was clean. COVID breakfast, meaning grab it an go. Pool was open but my kids are sticks in the mud and opted to not use it. Check in staff were friendly. The worst part was the super slow elevator

This stay was a study in contradictions. I didn't know whether to give this hotel four or three stars. Everything was great - huge rooms with a sitting area, fridge, and microwave (and a separate TV), comfortable beds, nice wood vinyl, and a great updated shower. Also the vanity was large to have room for multiple people to get ready simultaneously (and not in the same room as toilet and shower). Five stars, right? However the pool was very small and there was no hot breakfast (which was advertised). They blamed Covid, however, this is July 2021, and if they were really worried they wouldn't have the pool open. We were counting on a hot breakfast and all they had was cereal or a microwaveable sausage and biscuit. Also our room did not cool down as much as we wanted - got hot in the night, but the other part of our family in the room next door froze during the night. I would stay again for all the good points, but definitely disappointed about no breakfast.

I am literally going out of my way after contacting the best western corporate offices about the lady at the front desk. If you look at the reviews on hotels.com and actually read them, it's all of the same. The front desk lady is absolutely the rudest person ever. I just had to let it be known. Thank you and I don't recommend this place if it is the last hotel in Birmingham.

The ceiling had brown water marks snd the wall had a hole in it the size of a 4” circle. I made the front desk aware of the situation no one never addressed the situation I let three different front desk representatives know this was an issue. They should have compensated me in some type of way and changed my room. Neither was done. Situation still wasn't addressed snd I'm back at home

We had a pet with us so didn't expect a very fancy room. However, this room was very sparse and the furniture was quite worn. It also hadn't been cleaned for a while and was quite dusty. The furniture was quite worn.

Excellent choice for a hotel. Everything was exceptional here, I highly recommend it. The staff was great especially the lady that checked us in. She was very friendly and willing to go that extra mile to make our stay comfortable and affordable.

After we checked in Staff (we found later) walked in on us while in the room. Front desk didn't see any problem with this when we reported a stranger walked in on us. They didn't even apologize and give us an attitude that were were upset for no reason because it was a staff member and not a stranger. After check in time, staff should always assume someone is in the rooms and at least knock first. They kept saying they didn't know someone was checked in, why? I had my keeps and room number already. Then the cleaning staff was outside our room running the sweeper and blaring their music while we were trying to sleep after a long night of driving. Cleaning staff was also smoking right outside the door in a facility that is suppose to be completely smoke free. This place needs some major training because it was way below the normal standards for this chain. The place looks cool, but customer service was terrible and we won't be coming back to this location.

The room was very nice, a very comfortable bed and good location away from the busy interstate! Very quiet area. Good restaurants and shopping nearby. However, the staff person who checked us out was not friendly and didn't ask any questions at all about our stay. They weren't busy & no one was waiting except us to check out. But we were very satisfied with our room and the amount we paid.

Room wasn't at all what the pictures look like also the ceiling was patched but was falling elevator broke had to walk four flights of stairs with luggage no breakfast had the worst experience and seriously wish I could get my money back

Clean pet friendly hotel and not a large extra pet fee. Great check in. Clean room without carpet which is much nicer than sometime dirty carpets... Lighted and safe parking lot Nice having a quick breakfast meal to take with.

Photos of property are misleading. Room was disgusting. Pull out couch had large stain - covered in food and god knows what else. Floor stickier than a dive bar. Would have had a cleaner experience at a $50 Motel 6. Throughly disappointed and apprehensive to ever book at a BW again. Do not stay here.

This motel has a great location so close to the freeway. And there are ample food outlets nearby. The staff is friendly, professional, and ready to assist. On the other hand, the hotel is showing its age with a bit too much wear and tear. Updates are needed along with better maintenance. But will I stay here again? Yes.

Although we have had good experiences at other BW hotels in the past, this particular property is very tired and worn. While the "living room" and work spaces are roomy and the bed is comfortable, the position of the TV makes it difficult to see from either the couch or the bed, and the vanity and bathroom are very tight. This BW is in a reasonably convenient location.

Which ruined my girlfriend night that resulted in ruining mine. I was offed another room but after the roaches the mood was ruined for the stay. Not asking for money but should've offered. Cause it was a waste.

Beds are like concrete. The elevators were down, the pool wasn't open. None of the bare essentials we expected to have were available. When I say the beds were concrete, it was like the fake beds they have at the department stores, we left after 45min and went to the Drury Inn next door. I won't be back.

Horrible ...noisy rooms...sounded like a workout room was right above ours. After two complaints to management ...we demanded a different room to get some sleep around midnight. When we got back to our initial room at 6 am noise was starting up again! Room was not thoroughly cleaned, door handles, light switches, tv remote, toilet seat and phone were filthy. Bring disinfectant wipes...and plenty of them, recommend a spray too! Pool is closed...thank goodness! Funny thing, Best Western always thanks you for staying and asks you to review your stay...never got those emails...also their rules about a room being unoccupied for 24 hrs did not apply here

We chose this hotel based on brand, and were very disappointed. Free night from reward points got us a small room on the top floor (4th). The normal breakfast expected from this brand facility was nonexistent. "Modified" breakfast means going down from eggs, waffles, cereal, bacon, toast, etc. to a small brown bag with an energy bar and a small muffin. To ad insult to injury, the day shift manager or owner, strolled into the lobby as were were leaving, not wearing a mask, and the sign on the door "masks required" could have been read from across the street.

It has been my experience with this hotel brand that I'll never be disappointed. I was really impressed with the rooms. They were extremely spacious and well kept. The sitting area was also spacious and there was plenty of electrical outlets to charge all of my gadgets!

Room cleanliness. Sofa bed was sketchy. There was a banana peel left behind the toilet, floor was gritty and surfaces/mirrors needed a better cleaning. Weird that the Tvs were left on when we entered. Made it feel like the room was occupied.

The lady working the front desk was not friendly at all. She also looked as if she just rolled out of bed and came to work. Extremely unprofessional behavior. I would've gone elsewhere if we hadn't already been in the car with 2 young children for 7 hours.

I stayed at this location for a five nights on a business trip. The check in was quick and all the staff was polite. No hot breakfast because of Covid, but that is to be expected during these times. The room and entire property were clean.

Very disappointed with this hotel. Did not like location. We try and stay in Best Western hotels as we feel the cost is reasonable. This hotel feel way below expectations. Extremely dated and sanitary conditions were not standard. Would not stay here again

Ignoring CDC guidelines Front staff management and housekeepers no mask. In spite of decree by Gov Ivey. Front staff rude to 62 yo Vet. Claimed I did not show vet status on check in. IT STATES ON MY DRIVERS LICENSE. I am diamond select. Will not tolerate being treated this way. Did not feel safe at this place.

The room was great and check in and check out was quick and friendly. No issues. Great room great price. Will be staying here again and be looking for this hotel chain in other cities I travel to as well.

The hotel is clean. The bed was not very soft. So, comfortable for your back. The internet speed was high. Did not make any buffer. Enough towels for four people. Breakfast was reasonable. No complain during this COVID period. I enjoyed staying here.

Staff friendly for the most part hotel was clean....sanitizing station available....room was decent. I would definitely look into stay here again if I had to...the location was great alot of stores and restaurants were less than a mile away

in town to drop of son for collage. Great nights sleep, quiet, clean and friendly. Only bad thing was no hot breakfast cause of the stupid virus so it isnt their fault. Will stay here anytime i am visiting my son.

I checked out hours after checking in and he didn't even ask why and I'm not the type to ask for a refund. Simply checked out because not clean, it smells, and very outdated. The lobby is nice. But not as shown in pictures. AT ALL.

Room was super clean; wife wiped the floor so we could sanitize and the cloth was surprisingly still nice and white. Wood laminate floors were nice also, no gross carpets. Air worked, beds were comfortable, TV in bed area and another in living area. Hadn't stayed at a Best Western in ages, they've really up'd their game. Gym and Pool were closed, due to COVID-19. There was a laundry room that was open; not free. We had a U-Haul Car Dolly with a car in tow and parked on the back side of the building. Asked the receptionist about theft in the area and she said it was very safe. There was a corporate building adjacent to where we parked that had a roving security guard in a vehicle that probably helped keep crime away. Very cheap; we paid about $115 for a 2-queen suite, including tax and all fees. Hotel is pet-friendly.

Had a king suite with two beds. The A/C unit was not adequate for this size room. It worked, but took 4 hours to cool the place down. One TV would not work and the other's remote did not not work. The refrigerator had the control knob missing, so after hurting my fingers, I finally managed to get it turned on. The freezer door was missing. There was only one chair in the room, a desk chair. For this money, I expect a sofa and a comfortable chair. Not a work desk chair. I asked about breakfast. I was told it was a pastry and a fruit. Is this the best you can do? I would like to know how much of the room rate you are willing to give back. A hot breakfast is one o he major reasons that I shell out over a hundred bucks to stay in a luxury hotel. You have got to do better. I think that a cheapo breakfast is just another way where you can cut costs and not have to explain. There is a positive. It was clean and possible had been updated. Why would anyone want to stay here again?

The indoor pool was such fun! It was a chilly, rainy March day but the heated pool made us forget all about the weather! We were in Birmingham to visit the McWane Science Center and the zoo. This hotel was well situated for our needs. Lots of restaurants close by and loads of shopping. We will be back!

This hotel is a really great place to stay. If you are heading south you are below Birmingham and do not have to deal with much traffic in the morning. Room was clean and quiet and I loved the laminate floor. So much easier to clean that carpets.

Off the highway nice clean hotel all the rooms are suites nice to have a place to relax and then go to sleep. Clean and good value for your money. Rooms are updated and beds are comfortable . It has a pool and workout area. Breakfast is included.

My fiance and I stayed here for my grandmother's funeral for one night. We initially were given room 309, but saw a bed bug crawling so we asked to change rooms, too tired to drive to another hotel. We were then given Room 425. The next day, we both noticed bite marks. The owner refunded our stay, however for the $97 paid, he should have offered a better reward.

From the outside the hotel looked nice as did the lobby but the room we were given was tired and really needed upgrading. The wall sockets were yellow with aging and the furniture was tired. Breakfast was very limited and there was one banana which was very over ripe. Not sure what this was a BW Plus. Staff seemed rather inexperienced. Sad that this hotel has gone downhill in the last few years.

My husband and I, along with our small dog, stayed at this property on our way to visit family. We were in section C and had to drag our luggage/belongings down a set of about 5 or 6 steps to get into the property, very inconvenient, especially in the rain. Nice roomy sitting area with a countertop with a sink & large desk but I didn't like their layout even though it had a modern decor. It was an H-like shape with the short part of the H the division between the sleeping area and sitting area. The lone TV was on a dresser between the two rooms so there was no straight-on view. This also made it a little tight walking from one area to the other. The king bed felt like it was a pull-out sofa just a little bit more comfortable only it had a metal bar that stuck out from the mattress that hit my shin twice when I went to get into the bed(see pictures). The bathroom was in the open top part of the “H” but the counter and sink were outside in the bedroom area so you couldn't really be quiet to your partner if they were in bed sleeping as well as having the light on. Sorry I didn't take pictures. The floor was vinyl on top of what felt like uneven concrete. We were on the 2nd floor and the noise from the people directly above us was very annoying-sounded like horses galloping back and forth at 11PM. This hotel is directly beside another property. When in the bedroom I had difficulty connecting to the BW wifi as I kept getting the wifi for the other property(but of course didn't have their password). I had to go to the sitting area to connect to the BW wifi and would often get kicked off if I went to the bedroom. There really was no where on site to walk our dog, at least on the side we were on. There was a large field behind the next door property that we used. The breakfast was typical only they offered grits. Unfortunately they were extremely bland as well as the scrambled eggs, & biscuits with sausage gravy. The bacon was nice and crispy. Additionally, my husband always goes to get breakfast and brings it back to the room so I can take my time getting dressed & packing to leave. He was stopped and told he could only take one plate at a time out of the breakfast area. We've never encountered this issue before and we are BW platinum rewards members. The front desk clerk was extremely friendly and she was also there in the morning when we checked out. Their saving grace was the fact that we arrived very late and were too tired to complain or have to change rooms as well as the fact that they are one of the few pet friendly BW properties around the Birmingham/Montgomery area.

Everything was nice and modern I enjoyed the breakfast. The staff was professional and the location was convenient to what I needed. I know I will be staying there again. I also recommend anyone to stay

First let me say that the staff was so nice when we were checking in. The room had just be renovated and was nice and included a microwave and refrigerator. After we left, we discovered that we had forgotten both of our pillows. We phoned them and they were so nice and took the pillows to Fedex and sent them to us. Would definitely stay here again.

I've stayed at this Best Western property at least three times over the past two years. The rooms are well kept, the staff as a whole are pleasant especially housekeeping. The pricing for the suites is reasonable (use AARP/Senior rate). There's a Sam's/Wal Mart, Hobby Lobby, Dollar Tree and several places to dine within three miles.

The overall stay was a comfortable one with breakfast and the friendliness of the staff top notch. The variety of the breakfast menu was better than good. The staff greeting guests was friendly and eager to ensure your stay was a quality one.

While this hotel was in a good location, the hotel itself needs updating and a good cleaning. The mattresses were old and curved. Broken outlets, red stains on walls and mildew in the showers were concerning. And there is absolutely no water pressure. And the front desk lady would not help with getting us towels for the pool area. She was rude and not concerned at all about our problems with the room.

Room was great, except for floor not being flat resulting in chest drawers popping open all the time - way to bang your legs! TV screen was big, bUT no HDMI input preventing me from plugging my roku or my Ipad. Worse was breakfast: First I started drinking milk: almost threw up - milk was worse than bad. I suspect they keep refilling the machine with fresh milk except that at some point it may be not fresh at all. When I complained and ask fro milk for the gallon, she tried to serve me milk out of a bottle that was almost empty. When I asked when the bottle had been opened she said she did not know. In this experience I had no apology, neither from the lady tending the breakfast area nor from Linda at the front desk. When I asked her to also replace the skim milk - was in same machine as the 2% milk - she did not answer - basically stopped talking to me - and did not do it, despite the risk of food poisoning to other guests. Last, they have a coffee machine to serve you what you want in the breakfast area. Worse quality ever, same as old gas stations!!! it seems that the machine pours hot water in grinds as needed but really fast. Plus when stops, keep pouring hot water in your mug!!!

Would not be on my list of options ever again. We were initially given a room worth a broken couch, missing cabinet door and a hole in the ceiling. Once I notified staff she did relocate us to another room. This room smelled bad, the air conditioner was not on and kept turning off and on. And the icing on the cake was seeing a roach come from the closet of the room. Just gross!! Beds were not comfortable at all, save your time and money and book elsewhere.

My son and I stay regularly at the best Western. I call and let them know we are coming and they always treat us as family. They have remodel the and improved the working of the hotel. I always feel secure there. It is minutes away from my son's doctors at children's. My son loves the pool, family orianented too.

Stayed here to attend the Alabama-Tennessee game & we try to always reserve a Best Western property. The King suite was nice with ample space & bed was comfortable. My only negative was the times for the breakfast bar being 6-9 am. Frequently when we travel, the weekend times are extended to at least 10 am. We did not return from Tuscaloosa until after 2 am from the game & barely made it to breakfast at 8:45. The staff locked the door at 9 and removed all of the hot food while folks were still looking to get something to eat-the kicker was she turned off the lights as well! I realize we could have gone down the street to ihop, but it was the swiftness that the staff removed everything that had me puzzled. There are restaurants in the vicinity, so the location is good.

I gave 2 stars because the front desk staff was very kind to us. However, after checking in we noticed several fire code/life safety violations we were uncomfortable overlooking. All doors in the stairwells are propped/held open with magnets. There are no auto-close hinges on any doors in the stairwells or guest rooms. This is in contrast to the posted signs indicating “Fire Door/Keep Closed”. We have forwarded these concerns to the State/Local fire marshal. We also noted what appears to be mildew (?) in the window sill. While it is obvious the owners have tried to update this property with a modern color scheme, there are safety concerns we were not able to ignore. We hope a conversation with management during business hours will bring a resolution to ensure the safety of future guests.

We really enjoyed our one-night stay over at this BWP. We were in a king suite with a very unusual layout. Inside the door to the right was a kitchenette. On one wall in the center of the room was the bathroom, with the closet and dressing area on the backside of that that. Very functional! The breakfast was very good with eggs, bacon, sausage and cheese grits, with all the usual breads and cereals to go with it. The bed was far too comfortable as it put me to sleep before the show I wanted to watch was over. Very nice hotel.

this hotel is a fair price for basic product, but is located in Wildwood "hotel city" right off I 65 in prime Birmingham area near Vestavia Hills, Hoover, Homewood, & Mountain Brook, as well as a few doors down from Samford University; the competition should be stiff since there are so many competing hotels right there, but the demand is high enough that they all get used all the time; I am from Birmingham, have family there, & have a Samford student, so we are in town lots & have tried numerous accommodations; this trip we chose this place via Expedia because of location + indoor heated pool (for adult exercise) & free breakfast; it was good for all those reasons; it was an older hotel updated to current trendy décor, but shows lots of signs of facility wear; the suite/layout were good w/plenty of good light & surface space; citrus toiletries & linens were good but the 2 double bed mattresses in room 419 were shot; the room smelled awful; my husband figured out it was the AC (filter?), so we turned it off & kept the window open for 3 days; this did the trick & was feasible since it was October & not too hot or cold

My family needed an extended stay hotel while we were waiting to close on a new home. Kids anxious everyone tired and cranky and we did not know how our stay at the Best Western was going to feel. We have been treated each day to a fantastic breakfast, the best beds, super staff and quiet and I mean quiet rooms. I have nothing but positive comments regarding our stay. We loved it here and a shout out to Gigi for our wonderful breakfast each morning......

I am not one to write very many reviews but I couldn't shake not writing one about the encounter I had .... we travel week after week on end the entire year long. We make reservations for ourselves and 5 other individuals weekly as did we here at this location for 5 nights.... so that is 6 rooms for 5 nights stays.... This morning there was an older lady working the breakfast area, breakfast area was clean and had many selections as all other mornings I had been ... I had a gift to get ordered for a wedding and was having trouble figuring out the final on the engraving that would be done and I was finishing up eating @ 9am. At 9am she locked everything up and started breaking breakfast down which was fine... At 9:05 she states while standing me that “she needs the dining room and You need to move to the lobby” exact words here.... Rude Rude Rude.... and that is exactly how she meant it! The hotel is a bit older but not bad.... But after the experience with this one lady, we will not be back when in Birmingham Alabama....Definitely a bad seed

To the point ... poor breakfast, bed caused soars due to springs, rude staff, weak shower pressure. Lots of other hotel choices in the immediate area. Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere. If you decide not to heed my warning, don't say I didn't warn you.

The hotel was good. The only negative was the layout of the king bed suite. The Tv was located between the bed and the sofa so the view was at a bit of an angle from both locations. Breakfast was good.

Bad. Don't let the outside deceive you. It is an older hotel. Desk clerk was nice and the lobby clean. Checked in with my daughter and 7 mo grand daughter. We were directed to go around the hotel to door C. All fine but you had to go down steps to get in. You had to unload your car, take it down the steps to load it on the luggage cart. Got to the room, smelled like they spilled a bottle of disinfectant. Odor was awful. The second room was better but both rooms were old. The walls were repaired so many times to cover holes it looked terrible. All the trim looked beat up and the paint peeling, the curtains torn and dirty. It took an hour and a half for the internet to hook up. The couches were worn. The beds and bath were clean but overall I don't know how this was rated as a Plus hotel. It is not.

This property was fantastic, not in the middle of Birmingham, easy to get to, lots of parking, friendly staff. The workout room was great. The rooms were clean and huge. Breakfast was very good. I left my eye glasses in the workout room and was frantic the next day trying to find them. Folks at the front desk had them. The front desk also gave us a coupon for Landry's across the street. The food and drink there was excellent, I highly recommend it.

Stayed in Birmingham over night for friend in hospital. The accommodations were spectacular. Staff was friendly and knowledgable. Complementary breakfast was great. Food was fresh and very tasty. Check in and out was quick and easy.

We really enjoyed our stay at this Best Western. The room was very nice and clean. We did not experience any problems, which was great, since we were extremely busy the whole time during our stay. The breakfast was very good. An overall wonderful experience.

well my experience can be summed up with the day starting with total lack of planning information assurance knowledge and unattainable completed task outcome. i will tell you the factor that reconciled every issue.. that Factor is front desk employee Sandra. who from the moment i walked in without a clue on what my actual steps, process and instructions really were Sandra immediately put me ad ease with her comforting attitude that seemed to relax, comfort and assurance of Satisfactory Service. Sandra not only took the time to explain how the process worked she even went out of her way to assist me with other travel issues she did not have to go out of her way to do. She helped me identify what i needed, wanted and my expectations were and helped me and guided me into the most smoothest sailing relaxed process of my life. Sandra has the knowledge, the most professional efficiency and the Greatest Customer Service attitude, demeanor and personality that i have ever encountered and i have booked into and traveled for the last 30 years of my career as a surgeon and conference tutorial leadership role which so it can be known all of my fellow medical board personnel will all be informed, explained and updated on what a great hotel experience comes with the Best Western Plus Carlton Suites in Birmingham Alabama and the oustanding flawless professional employee stature of Sandra and her team.. We stopped for the night here for a room after paying and entering our room we noticed a foul odor that was to strong for use to handle. The room was in need of updating. There is paint coming off the walls and doors. Very dark hallways as well. The kind lady who checked us in was very prompt and friendly about putting the money back on our credit card.

My husband and I visited my daughter at UAB. Check in was fast. Rooms were clean and the breakfast was very good. There were several restaurants within walking distance eventhough it was not too pedestrian friendly in the area(no sidewalks). I would not stay there again, because I left my apple ipad charger and cable plugged in the bedside outlet and when I called the hotel approximately 1.5hrs later, I was told that it was not found. I had to call twice because my called was not initially returned. I was dumbfounded because I had it plugged in the the same spot for 2days. Someone on that staff is a liar. I would not stay at this hotel again because I would not trust the staff to return anything that I may unintentially leave behind.

My wife and I decided to stay here on our trip to Birmingham and this was a great stopover. All of the staff members were friendly and helpful. We got a great room at a fair price. The room itself was clean and relaxing. The bed was soft and comfortable. The hotel is easily accessible from I-65 at Exit 255. We would definitely stay here again

Easy check in and checkout! The staff were all friendly. You can tell the hotel has been upgraded/renovated (which all looks good). My wife and I were pleased with our experience at this hotel, especially how close it was to UAB.

The lady at the front desk was very friendly and helpful at check-in and set the tone for our overnight stay. The room was updated because I am a rewards member so that was nice considering we had just experienced car trouble on the Interstate. We had a very nice meal next door then had a clean room and a comfortable bed! The only negative thing I could say is that one of the remotes was broken, but the remote for the other TV worked on both TV's and we had to go to the hallway toward the elevators to connect to the Internet. The breakfast was excellent with a wide variety including biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, waffles, pastries and cereal! I would definitely stay here again!

Traveling with kids is always tricky, but we enjoy staying at this location. It's safe and multiple restaurants nearby. There is a Walmart across the street and other shopping stores in close proximity, and only 15 minute or less commute to Children's Hospital!

The clerk upon check-in was happy and courteous. We were traveling with our 4 yr old Lab, so we asked the clerk for an extra sheet to keep the dog hair at a minimum. She gladly provided and commented that too bad more people weren't that considerate. We would definite stay here again (and we did, once on our way to FL and again when we returned to MI.

We played golf at RTJ Oxmoor Valley andd Ross Bridge. Both Convenient. Landry's Sea Food across the street. Rooms appear to have just been redone and are very nicely laid out with new furniture and lighting. Breakfast was nice. All of the staff are very nice, polite and helpful. Sandra who checked us in was a delight.

I don't usually write reviews,but this one is needed. I don't know if these do anything, would like to contact Best Western Corporation. I know these Hotels are privately owned and operated.The room (222) was OK but had a musty smell. My wife and I smelled the Oder of marijuana on the second floor near the elevators. My issue with the breakfast bar are the hours of closing on weekends. the bar is open 6-9 A.M. having one to get out of bed early to get breakfast. When we arrived at 8:40 The hot bar had very little on it. After we sat down to eat several other groups came for breakfast to receive nothing hot. As soon as the pans were empty the staff were taking them to the kitchen. The staff stayed in the kitchen to hide except to lock the door to the dining area at 9:00,and turn off the lights to the serving line. At 9:08 they turned the TV off, and dinning room lights out. I am sure the employees were doing as told by management.

The site looks good from the outside, but there were some issues with the room. Mattress was too hard for my liking, and the toilet seat was very loose and literally came apart in my hand. No way someone could have cleaned that toilet and not noticed. Other than those two things, my stay was without incident.

I don't even know where to start with this hotel. We were on 3rd floor and could hear people walking thru halls at all hours, people above us must've been having a wrestling match! Shower in our room wouldn't work properly. We're lying in bed and hear a loud boom... To our surprise it was the coffee table, the bottom of the leg broke off and popped off across the room. Every table in the room wobbles. There's is dust at least 2 -3 inches thick on the floor from where dresser isn't moved when cleaning. I had to move dresser because it was so close to the bed, you couldn't walk thru. Whenever someone opens a door in the hallway, our door will shake. Water leaks out of actual knob on the hot water side in kitchen. They claim they have a slat water pool but reeks of chlorine. Also is sooooooooooooo dirty, the kids are making smiley faces in the grime alone side of pool. Pool felt like dirty bath water, not hot at all! Toilet in bathroom is so close to wall and door frame, you hit elbow every time! Water is so hot in room, it will literally scald you! Very disappointed. I haven't ever stayed at a best western that was this bad!

I was in room 209. The room was large with a full sitting room with desk, sofa and large TV. There was a fridge and wet bar. Center was the bath with large vanity. Unfortunately the vanity was so deep I couldn't get close to the mirror to put on makeup. Even if I had, the lightling was so weak it wouldn't have mattered. The bedroom was comfortable - bed and pillows, with a good-sized TV. The morning breakfast was terrific. It's an ok hotel for a quick stop, but not if you want any kind of up-scale.

Very nice room, very clean, Very nice staff!! The pool area was very nice!! Beds were comfortable! All the comforts of home . my family enjoyed our stay very much ! Very nice free breakfast buffet! We will definitely stay here again!!!

The tub in the room was amazing....it was perfect size very clean room. Bed was not the most comfortable but other than that no complaints. The free breakfast was delicious with a huge variety....waffles, REAL EGGS, grits, bacon, sausage...etc Would definitely stay again

We asked for additional pillows and was denied "the pillows assigned to your room is more than enough" is what we were told. We asked for additional bath cloths and were given hand towels, we went back down to return the hand towels and get what we asked for and was told "you checked them before you left, didn't you notice" . We will not be back to this particular location. Normally we love Best Western, but this one is not up to customer service standards

Was in the area looking at college's for my daughter and stayed 4 nights. Overall good service and nice facility. Only issue the doors to the bathroom get in the way if someone is at the sink. And the new floor after the remodeling has began to buckle

We had a horrible experience. A steady stream of hot water was coming from the bathtub faucet and it was quite loud. When we asked for a new room, we were told they were sold out, as were all the hotels nearby, so take it or leave it. We asked if a repair person could be called. We were told it was Friday night and the repairman would not be called until Monday. In addition, the hotel had only one person working that night … on a sold out night. So we arrived to a 15 minute wait to register. One person on duty is not enough for a hotel this size so things like towels in the pool area were not replaced. It also seems quite unsafe for the employees. Later, when we asked for another blanket to try and improve the sleeper sofa, we were told only one blanket was allowed per room. The owner should be ashamed of him or herself. The hotel "looks" good from the outside and somebody did a decent job with the cosmetic overhaul, but it quickly falls apart after that. BW should also review employee safety rules and insure there is more than 1 person working during a shift. The next morning, we asked to speak to the manager. We could seem him in the office area, but the staffer said he was busy and would call us later. It never happened. Big surprise.

My family and I had a really nice time. We wanted a hotel that had an indoor pool and they have an indoor, heated, saltwater pool which was so nice to have! It was the first time my daughter has gone swimming and im glad that our memory of that is in such a nice place.

We were pleasantly surprised. The desk clerk was super friendly. The breakfast was great. The room was clean and the kids liked it. The coffee was not the best, but hey, we can get that at a gas station.

Dated, dirty, furniture in guest room was missing a drawer, Person checking in in front of me came down and asked for small towels and face cloths. She was handed one towel and told this was all there was.

My partner and I needed just a night of peace and quiet which is exactly what we got here!! The whirlpool tub added to our romantic evening and was very clean. We will definitely be back to this location again!!

I book hotels based on the star ratings, but this place really disappointed me. We were busy when we checked in so at first glance the room appeared clean. Late that evening I noticed the pillow for the sofa bed had hair on it and was dirty. The pillow case hadn't been changed. As I got into bed, I pull the covers further down and noticed soiled spots and so I decided to check more of the bed and pillows. I turned the pillows over and they were dirty and had been set up with the cleaner side showing. Also on one side of the sheets were pubic hair. 2 nights later one of our towels they brought us were folded up dirty so I had to use our clothes to dry off with. Sunday I came back to notice some of my change had been taken from beside the bed. Half of it was still there. This place should be shut down. You can smell marijuana all down the 2nd floor and in the elevators in the late evenings. Friday night I even smelled it on the 1st and 4th floor. Some of their staff live here. Some housekeepers were in the lobby in pajamas late at night. I know that could mean nothing with that information alone, but there's a girl on the 2nd floor who said she lives here and that a few others do. I've never had so many issues at a single location. There's a girl who works the front desk with red hair. She disrespects a lot of people who come in here and has a nasty attitude. Sandra was very nice and helpful. It makes me feel so bad that she has to work in this place. From what I've seen so far, she's the only one here that treats others with respect and is very nice.

Sandra from evenings is the only one to talk to. She's amazing! Housekeepers don't clean and will steal from you! STAY AWAY FROM TAYLOR!!!! Rooms are nice and spacious. But they do not clean your room and each day they come in, something new is missing. Money, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, and who knows what else is missing. My make up was opened. My husband's medicine was removed from his bag. They sometimes don't even knock and just walk right in! Even if you leave a do not disturb sign up they will go in while you're gone! Don't stay here alone. You need someone to stay in your room during the day to keep housekeeping out. In the evening when they're off duty it's better to leave then. They will pretend to clean even if you're in the room with them and swipe small things when rounding the corner. Not worth letting them in without someone to watch them in each room. DO NOT TALK TO TAYLOR! They will not fire her for any reason and she comes across as dangerous.

Good value, clean rooms, 2 dings: 1) Room is lit with unlovely white (not warmish, incandescent looking) cfl lightbulbs. 2) If you want to sleep in, you better remember to hang your "Do Not Disturb" on your room door. Housekeeping was knocking on my door at 8:30 this morning, which seems too early to me.

easy check in, lots of updates, spacious room, comfy bed, very very very nice and helpful staff, loved the shower head!!!!!!! Great and freindly greeting at checkin, offerd lots of valuable reminders and a great run down of amenities and nearby places to eat. She was very pleasant and helpful. Room was nice, shower head was best I ever had in a hotel!!!! WILL STAY AGAIN!!!!!

We stayed here on an overnight trip to transport two pups to their new homes. The room was really clean and the breakfast wasn't bad. The only complaint I would have would be no screen on a 3rd floor window that opens. Not good if you had kids traveling with you.

Friendly staff, nice big rooms...we got two doubles. The indoor pool is nice and warm and open earlier than most. Breakfast was only til 9, which was quite early. Landrys steakhouse across the street which made dinner much easier.

We stayed here one night while passing through Birmingham. It is minute or two off the highway a couple exits south of downtown. The area had several other hotels, a few restaurants and several large commercial office buildings. Check in was easy. The staff was friendly throughout our stay. Our room was large with a living area and a little kitchen type area (microwave, coffee maker and sink). Everything was clean and the bed was comfortable enough. The hotel provided a breakfast. It was fine, nothing special but I found enough to have a good meal. My only real nitpick is while the hotel looks to be recently refurbished, some areas were done better than others. Most of our room was nice but the bathroom was a little run down. Don't get me wrong, it was clean and functional, it just didn't really seem to match the room. Like they cut corners during the renovation.

Clean, comfortable room. I had a king suite. My only issue was to park close to the elevator to my room there were stairs to go down on the exterior and the exterior storefront doors were manual, not automatic. Difficult to bring in large suitcase with stairs. Only ground level entrance with automatic doors that I saw is at the main entrance to the lobby. Everything else was very nice and staff was frienglf.

Bad news first: The hotel has an indoor pool on the 2nd floor but was unusable the Sunday morning we were there because we were told a child threw up in the pool. They were waiting for the clean up crew that was expected to arrive around 11am. 11am is checkout time. :( We requested late check out and were given only untili 11:30am. On to the good news: The hotel is sufficient for a 1-night stay. It's easy enough to find (using GPS). Parking around the hotel, it's possible to park near an alternate entrance but will need key to access. The hotel appeared to have been recently updated. Good location, appeared to be safe, stores and eateries nearby. There is a Landry's across the street (yes, close enough to walk), an Arby's and a Cajun seafood place also very close by. Then there is a Walmart, Chinese buffet place, Starbucks, Mc Donald's in the immediate vicinity (under 5 minute drive). The room was okay in size...had a King bed, sofa bed, microwave and fridge, desk and chair, enough electrical outlets, flat screen tv with some cable channels, wifi worked ok, plenty of lighting options. They had wood or vinyl-wood floors which is not too common at other hotels we've stayed at. Easier to keep clean imo. The sink was located outside of the bedroom, essentially part of the bedroom and therefore there was a mirror facing the bed. Bad feng shui for those who believe that or are superstitious. The bathroom - tub and toilet - was a little tight. The breakfast area was nice, bright, and clean. There were all the usual breakfast items - coffee, juices, yogurt, milk, fruits, cereals, oatmeal, waffles, breads/pastries, eggs, biscuits & gravy, and had both sausage and bacon. The staff/attendants made sure to monitor and refill breakfast items as needed.

Service was excellent. Late check in was an ease. We were well pleased with the suite, which was a blessing after driving 8+ hours. Bed could have been firmer but overall was a restful sleepover. Breakfast was well worth it. Location is great, right off the interstate.

I been staying at this hotel for the Thanksgiving holiday for the past 4 years and each year its been getting worse as far as the whole experience . It is convenient to the highway and shopping but the quality of the room doesn't even out

The hotel was clean staff was very friendly beds were slighty uncomfortable and pullout couch was an issue but room was able to be pitch dark and very quiet, temperature setting was easy and breakfast was for best western standards was average

The place offered wonderful and friendly service. The woman who checked us in was super helpful. Spotless room and bathroom. Well stocked. Very comfy bed. Clean and working elevator. Nice temperature. Excellent all around!

our overall stay was good. staff was kind and helpful, there pool needed some safety issues looked at. the hotel is clean and well kept. we enjoyed our stay and we would go back to this hotel. breakfast was good and the staff was very nice..

We stayed just one night and arrived earlier than scheduled but were met with very friendly staff who very kindly organized a room immediately.The room was a double queen and very spacious with comfortable wide beds.Although there was a minor issue with their internet service that was resolved within an hour and staff were very apologetic and assisted in finding us travel information that we would otherwise have organized ourselves online. We also initially had difficulty finding the starter switch for the refrigerator but they helped over the oh or and also called back to ensure everything was running. The refrigerator was askew so the door would scrape along the floor a little but other than that we enjoyed the stay a lot especially as we were made to feel very welcome throughout.

Passing through on my motorcycle trip and decided to stop here for the night. Glad I did. Met by awsawes staff member made me fill at home right from the get go. Great big room. Great breakfast. Staff even gave me Discount Ticket for meal across the street awesome seafood.Staff made my stay very relaxing.

Two nights at this property, but our schedule had us away from the hotel all but sleeping hours. We are Best Western Platinum members, and have stayed in Best Westerns all over the country This facility looks nice on the exterior, but the room is nowhere near the quality of a Best Western PLUS. The TV was off the wall, there were paint splotches on the walls, the shower curtain rod was jury-rigged with wood spacers and was about to fall off the wall, the TV remote was slow to non-operational, wood molding was chipped, the room was not clean. It was like a very old style no-tell motel wrapped in a nice Best Western PLUS wrapper. It was so comprehensively poorly maintained we saw no point in asking for another room. If this is the best that Best Western can do, we're going back to Marriott properties.

Previous reviews were not favorable for this location. It was just fine, clean room and bathroom. Free breakfast and quiet without noisy guests. Some reviewers did not like the location, but you have to take everything with a grain of salt.what is sketchy to some people, is not necessarily bad to others. For us, it was just fine.

I found the hotel to be extremly clean, the front desk clerk could not have been nicer nor more helpful! The main issue I had was their vending machines were down for a full hotel. There is a Walmart Supercenter dire tly across the street which is great for those forgotten items! Overall I give this an 8+ out of 10 for vending machine issues and lack of towels.

We stayed for one night at Best Western Carlton Suites on State Farm Parkway on the way to Panama City Beach. A plus was that they were pet friendly and all rooms were suites. The room we had was very nice, loved the separate kitchen/living room area separate from the sleeping area. Very clean, smelled fresh. Loved the lack of carpet which over time shows a lot of wear from constant walking on it. Loved the wood like flooring plus the nice pool even though we didn't use it and the free wi-fi. Sandra the desk clerk was on duty when we checked in around 3. Very friendly, outgoing, really liked her. Had a free full breakfast in the morning which was really delicious. Dining area was really clean. The one thing unusual in the room was the huge tv sitting on the counter space where the sink was when I really feel it should have been hung on the wall across from the couch. Only other thing, we had to carry our luggage down about 4 or 5 steps to put on a valet to take up to the room. Very close to a lot of restaurants and stores. Would stay again.

We stayed at this hotel a couple of years ago and were in the Birmingham area again in September. This is a great hotel and good value for money. The rooms are clean and well equipped. The bed is comfortable. The breakfast was very good with a wide variety of items. We will always stay here if we visit the area again

This hotel is located right across the street from Arby's and a seafood place. It is right off the interstate. It is nice and clean. Good breakfast. My husband and I will stay again when we go to Birmingham.

Staff wiil not accommodate customers requesting late check out even if you are a rewards club member. Otherwise, location is located near restaurants and shopping. Only one elevator for a very large facility with several rooms

We stayed here while dropping son off at Samford College , nice area with plenty of restaurants , pet friendly , very clean , everybody very nice and breakfast good and hot ! Definitely stay there again when in town !

Well...We asked for a room with two queen beds but what we were given was a suite with two double beds. We had my husband, myself, our daughter, her husband and our 7 year old granddaughter. Now none of us are what you would call small built and for us to sleep in a double bed was a difficult task, not to mention that my granddaughter wanted to sleep with us instead of her parents which made it extra uncomfortable. Then after our stay, I check my bank and to my surprise what was taken out of my account was way more than what I was told at the front desk. The woman told me that the room was $99+$20 pet fee plus taxes. So silly me I was thinking maybe $135 after all was said and done. OH NO...it was $153.60. They tax the room and there are three different taxes they add, then they tax the pet fee separate with another three different taxes. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper. The only, and I mean only good thing there was the breakfast. Oh the staff was super friendly, but I feel like I got blindsided. We were headed to FL for vacation and wanted all the money we could have for that time. The only reason for stopping was because my granddaughter has CP and cannot travel for a full 8 hours in a car. As it is, it took us 6 hours to go what would have normally taken my husband and I only 4 hours to go because we had to stop every two hours to change her diapers, let her take a break from the car and just destress. Not a good way to start a vacation....UGH!!! I feel like if I had been informed up front about all the taxes and charges that would be added to my bill, I would not have gotten so aggravated. Front desk should be made to tell someone that is looking to stay there what their entire bill will be. Not just a base cost + taxes. But they DONT!!!

This room was available for a great price, so we booked it. The room had all laminate or tile floors. There is a table and couch with 2 side tables, a sink with a refrigerator and microwave. There is a bathroom sink with a large counter, and separate walk in shower/ toilet room --The entire room is tiled. The shower has a cushioned seat and hand-held shower head. (If you don't want the entire floor wet, lay the shower curtain on the cushioned seat so it doesn't run all the water onto the floor.) We enjoyed staying in this room even though neither of us uses a wheelchair. Note: The back entrance we were told to park near has steps down to the entrance door, so for wheeled access park near the lobby entrance.

Recently stayed here based on good reviews. This hotel needs dire improvement. The room was DATED and needed repairs and modernization. Luckily I only needed to stay only a couple of hours overnight. The man at the desk was friendly but it did not make up for the awful room.

This hotel is super nice! The pics pn the website needs to be updated! As soon as you walk in it has a modern feel. It looks like its been redone with-in the last 6 months. The desk clerk was kind and hellful. We stayed in The B atea down by the pool. When you walk in the smell of cleanliness hits you:) My room was perfect clean sheets clean bed clean bathroom. My bed was comfy and the pillows are the best! I traveled from Indiana so to have somewhere clean and comfy after a long day was good:) The thing I liked most was no carpet floors in the room!! In the morning breakfast was served they had eggs bacon biscuit gravy waffles plus more . The lady that cooked everything was very friendly:) Overall this is our new stop on our way to florida!

During a road trip with family, we stopped here at 2am & booked their last room (king with pull out couch bed). The room was spacious & clean. Both beds slept well, & there wasn't much noise noticed (even when we slept in a bit before getting back on the road). We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel, but it smelled good. The desk staff was friendly at check in & check out.

The room and amenities were beyond my expectations... not only was the room impeccably clean, it appeared newly renovated, plenty of space, modern appearance - like a small apartment really. The large garden tub was a luxurious bonus along with the walk in shower. The staff was friendly and efficient at check in and out. The cleaning staff was professional and helpful as well.

My family and I relocated from Missouri to Alabama. The hotel rooms are nice and the hotel staff very friendly and helpful or so it seemed. I was quoated one rate that I never received. On my first day of work after already paying over 1000.00 my family was asked to leave because my credit card did not clear for 4 nights in advance to receive a 15% discount. Really?? I am a retired Army Vet and a single mother of 5 children. The staff ( Sandra) did all that she could but The owner Mr. Patel could and did not careless that myself and my children could potentially be homeless in a state we have been in for less than two weeks. The home we are moving into is being remodeled and I explained all of this to Mr.Patel. After checking out my credit card was charged again so for a total of 6 nights 2 rooms = over 1700.00. For some this would be okay. For me and my family it is and has been life altering. So as far as this hotel being a stand up business with fair pricing and a morally sound owner, it is not. I will never stay at this hotel again nor recommended it to every day people simply trying to live. Mr. Patel could have easily done more for a guest who brought a family and spent a great deal of money in 6 day.But he didn't. Truly unsatisfied and unhappy

It took hours to find a decent hotel that allows pets and didn't charge ridiculous amounts of money. This place had hardwood floors which was perfect. The location was excellent. Convenient access to stores.

Dangit, ya'll. I booked this based upon the high reviews. I care about safety and cleanliness, which are really two sides of the same coin. This place felt like it missed the mark on both. We arrived late to find people sitting on the trunks of their vehicles smoking. Not a big deal, at least they aren't smoking inside, right? Well...there appeared to be only one elevator and it smelled like marijuana. The fourth floor smelled like moth balls *and* marijuana. The room across the hall sounded as though they were having a party. By almost 1 am, our room started smelling like marijuana also. Neither TV in our room worked, there were hairs in our room that didn't belong to any of us, and I overheard a guy telling the front desk clerk this morning that they reported an issue with their door last night and received zero help in the matter. Good grief.

Nothing special about this place. Check in was friendly and easy. Staff was nice. It was clean and had plenty of towels, etc. The beds were not all that comfortable for us, however. Woke up with a sore back. Breakfast was 'eh'. The coffee was absolutely horrible.

I saw a review on TripAdvisor from Regina R related to Taylor. At the time, I ignored it as I am not overly sensitive. That was a mistake. I can personally vouch for the veracity of Regina R's description. If you HAVE to stay at this hotel, avoid Taylor at all costs. She is a dangerous, self-centered person that the rest of the staff avoid and is generally unable to engage with other humans in a normal manner. During my stay, she worked weekday mornings until 3PM, so hopefully that will help you avoid her. I arrived the morning of check-in and inquired about the possibility of early check-in. She made it seem as if the request was completely unreasonable. I expected her to offer to give me a call / text when a room might be available (typical procedure), but she cut me off multiple times saying

After a very long drive I called in to confirm which highway exit. The Staff provided me with very clear, concise information which was easy to follow and locate the hotel (first time in the past few days of travel!!). The hotel was clean, with nice sized rooms. As my dog was traveling with me, they were able to provide me with a room near one of the back doors which worked out perfect for the nighttime walk! All of the staff, including the housekeeping folks were pleasant and polite.

We were visiting family in the UAB hospital and stayed over night. We made reservations the night before and the staff I talked to was very nice she also gave us the hospital rate when she found out why we were coming. Check in was simple and easy and the hotel itself and the suite/room was very clean the cleanest hotel we had stay in for awhile. The beds were a little hard but everything else made up for that. The breakfast the next morning was great with a hot bar along with all the other stuff. We were well pleased with our stay and if ever back that way will surely stay there again.

This Best western was really great nice clean rooms nice pool had to get in indoor !! The front staff Taylor was nice in giving directions only thing I no to get rest and was a great place to get rest so quiet didn't. No where I was going other than back on highway thanks Taylor will be Back for sure

The room was clean but extremely humid. There was even moisture on the wall. Pool looked good for kids. I liked that the king suite we booked did not have carpet. We did not try breakfast but it looked nice. Good coffee.

My husband and I stopped for the night on a trip south. Stayed in a King Suite. Room was clean but very humid even with ac adjusted. May have just been the hot weather. Overall decent place. We didn't use the indoor pool but looked good for kids.

We stopped here mid road trip. It was beautiful the lady at the front desk was so polite and helpful. The rooms were huge we had a couch and table. My son enjoyed the pool. Only down fall was they did not have a restaurant I did notice a really nice grill in the pool area avabile to use. We ended up getting delivery that night and enjoyed the free breakfast in the morning. Overall great stay. Loved it !!!

Front desk representative was very uninviting after i watched her interact respectfully with another customer i approached the desk she was very rude! I asked her to use the phone and she replied in a very irrate tone THIS IS NOT A PUBLIC PHONE! And when i told her how to display good customer service she rolled her eyes she was very non chalant after she did let me use the phone she didnt dial the number properly purposely and when i tried to tell her she replied no u may not use the phone!!! i have been going to this hotel 3 1/2 years and never had this issue this is the worst type of person to have as the face of this hotel! I then told her that i am going to report her she said that she didnt care and then turned and walked away & called the police on me i have never been in trouble with the law my record is clean ... ive never had a ticket or anything I believe in respect and compassion for others the police went in talked to her and i DO NOT KNOW WHAT SHE TOLD THEM BUT i was forced to walk with my bags !!! I WAS EMBARRASSED SAD AND FELT SO BELITTLED My fiance' had left in my car to get me an advil ....however the lady that made my reservation on the 6/12/18 SANDRA was very nice SHE IS GREAT AT MAKING PEOPLE FEEL AT HOME and has always made me feel comfortable , but today 6/13/2018 TAYLOR was the worst ...the worst customer service experience i have ever recieved! I could have been put in jail for telling this young lady not to treat people the way she was treating them not to mention the coulle she was arguing with before me ....I recommend this hotel to everyone because my experience up until today has always been nice but she does not need to represent best Western plus carlton suites ... the location is 140 Statefarm Parkway in homewood al. 35209 She does not exude good customer service that type of position is for people that do not show that they are easily angered... remain calm and have respect for guest and want to provide a great experience to the guests..she is very negative she was actually rude to a guest that id seen leaving breakfast but they left because of it immediately!

We booked this hotel late in the evening and checked in around 11 p.m. I believe the lady at the front desk was Sandy and she was very friendly and helpful. Our room was large with a seperate area from the bed. That area had a sink, microwave, refrigerator, couch and desk and was very nice and roomy. Our bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean and so was the sink area. If we are passing through again, we will certainly stay here again. Can't beat the price and location for a nice clean hotel.

We were searching for a hotel late one night while passing through Birmingham. There were several hotels in the area. We tried a few with no vacancy. We were happy that this BW had a room available. They take AAA discount. I was so shocked and impressed to see the size of our room. It was about 1.5x bigger than a standard hotel room. There was a seating area with tv, mini fridge, microwave, sink. This was so helpful when you're traveling with an infant. Then there was another sink/mirror vanity area outside a rather small bathroom (tub and toilet). It was small but fine since the vanity was right outside. I also liked the citrus scented soap they use. They have a few full length mirrors in rooms. The two double beds were in the bedroom section which did have some built in shutters to divide the areas. This big room was perfect for our kids and our infant who needs complete darkness to settle down. We slept great- very comfy. The little breakfast buffet was a great addition. The guy at the breakfast area seemed to be distracted and on his phone a few times- and left some of the table still messy from the last infant (spilled grits?). When asked to refill the milk machine, he was courteous. There were plenty of hot/cold items for our family to feel satisfied. The coffee in the lobby was a little watery, but it was free. Since we were here only overnight, I didn't get a chance to check out the other amenities. Overall, it was a great value. I would've been fine paying the same amount for a smaller room, with less breakfast options, and less amenities- So I was pleasantly surprised at our fortune in finding this spot. It felt like we got a lot of "extras". We will gladly stay here again while passing through town.

I know these property has some great reviews. It is adequate. It looks like a budget hotel, it feels like a budget hotel. It's a budget hotel at a more expensive price. The room layout is divided into two. It is spacious and clean. The outside is disappointing. It rained the evening I was there. The side entrances become small ponds you had to Wade through to get to the entry door. Not sure this property can be updated to the 21st century. It's past its prime. I would choose somewhere else.

Rooms are dirty and dark. Not enough natural light at all. Sheets are dirty and the air conditioners do not work. Took 3 hours to cool a small area. Beds are super small and the pullout couch is super small and looks old. Not a good experience at all.

Right off highway. Close to BHM Airport. Clean. Surrounded by eateries and shopping . Hot water was fast for shower. 24 Hour coffee machine in lobby . 2 very easy routes to get to Birmingham Airport. An hour from Tuscaloosa and easy drive.

This was my first time at this hotel and everything exceeded our expectations. The rate we paid was reasonable. The staff members were excellent here and went out of their way to accommodate us. Our room was big and spacious and clean. The bed was super comfortable and the water pressure from the shower was perfect. The hotel is easily accessible from I-65 at Exit 255. And there are a lot of restaurants and stores near the hotel. We will definitely stay at this hotel again

This hotel provided excellent service. The lobby had been redecorated & was beautiful. The breakfast was hot & cold & everything was fresh. The express checkout was wonderful to not have to go to the front counter & possibly stand in line to checkout. Overall Great Experience!!

I always go to Trip Advisor when selecting hotels. This Best Western had good reviews. The first room we were given had a curtain rod that was torn down from the wall. When I noticed this, I called the front desk and someone was dispatched immediately. He determined that he could not put it back in place without anchoring it. He went back down and brought us a key to transfer to another room. Obviously the cleaning crew did not notice this and report or make sure the tub area was spotless. It made me wonder if the room had really been cleaned. The next room was much cleaner, however there was a loud constant humming like someone using a high powered pressure washer. I went down and reported this. This time the manager came back and tried to follow the noise which he determined was below us. It turned out to be the ac unit in the room below. When he turned that off, it was immediately quiet. The other issue could have been safety related if a fire evacuation was necessary during the night. Because of the sloped floor, the chest of drawers would not stay closed. We tried lifting and putting a book 7nderneat, but this still did not correct the problem. At checkout, I suggested to the manager that he gets wooden blocks to put underneath. He said he would take care of it that day. I appreciated the effort given to accommodate us, but we will not stay here again.

My husband and I were passing through on our way to Atlanta. The actual hotel is being renovated and looks nice. The King Suite was smartly decorated but the bed was very lumpy. The policies at this location however leave a lot to be desired. I booked this room online and held it with a credit card. When I arrived I wanted to pay for my room in cash. In order to pay in cash you have to pay the actual bill THEN add another $100. WHY? You have a credit card on file! If there are damages done to the room after I have paid in CASH charge the credit card! NOPE won't do that. Additionally, I was traveling late in the evening to Birmingham so I called on my way to advise it would definitely be a LATE arrival I called three times during the span of one hour - phone rang off the hook - no one answered. I confirmed I had the correct number once I got there and the clerk said "yeah I guess I haven't heard the phone ring in a while" - WELL you may want to check that since other people maybe calling! Another aspect of my trip that I found disturbing - the side door we walked thru to get to our room was being kept OPEN with a piece of plastic. Why is someone keeping the door opened at 10pm at night. Not safe at all. I won't book with the Best Western brand again. This is the second time I have used them with the first being awful as well. Not my cup of tea.

If I am in this area again I will definitey come back to this Best Western. The staff were helpful on the phone, even giving directions when we were not sure, up until the next morning when I dropped by to take a quick pic with the cube :-) Clean, comfortable, and very nice king suite! The indoor pool was a must with two teenagers, and they definitely enjoyed it,,the pool area is very nice, and large as well...towels were provided and it is conveniently right beside the fitness room. Great room, great service!!

the jacuzzi was very nice, the toilet was very noisy. one day there were no grits for breakfast. the cleaning staff was very good. . it would have been nice to have a shuttle ride to take to the racetrack.

Hotel has been recently renovated and was very nice from the lobby to the breakfast room to the room. Our king suite was huge. Would definitely stay here again when in the area, very good value for the price.

We had a group staying at this hotel while attending a conference at a nearby college. It was very convenient and easy to get to and from. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was undergoing renovations so there was a lot of traffic and noise from construction workers during the day. Our rooms were newly renovated and were very nice with nice fixtures and furniture. The breakfast was excellent with lots of choices and really tasty food. I think the hotel will be very nice when all of the renovations are completed and I will definitely stay there again if in that area.

The staff is very attentive, but there's nothing particularly remarkable about this hotel. The beds aren't the most comfortable and the breakfast is alright as long as you aren't on any special diets. This place is cheap, quiet, and clean. Sometimes that's all you need!

Very clean and spacious rooms. Coffee always available in lobby. Excellent Breakfast! Staff was courteous and kind. Pool was clean and warm. Fitness center had free weights and treadmill, ventilation was good.

I would most certainly recommend this hotel. It is located in a nice area and is very quiet. They are renovating it right now, but was not really noticeable to me. The woman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. The hallway and our room was spotless. We chose a king room and it was very large with a sofa, kitchenette, and desk area alongside the sleeping and bathroom area. Lots of dining options near the hotel. Breakfast area was very nice with plenty of room and tables. The breakfast was outstanding with eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, french toast, plus lots of pastries, and fresh fruits. I'm so glad we chose this hotel and would definitely stay here again!

On my way across the country, I stopped here and was given such great customer service and felt so welcomed by Sandra at the front desk that I decided to stay a second night. On my way back through on the return trip, I checked back here, not necessarily expecting a similar experience, but I was delighted to be taken care of by Sandra again and receive excellent service again. The free (casual) appetizers and cocktails were a very pleasant surprise after a long day of driving. My children always enjoy the heated indoor pool. Rooms are very clean and comfy. Did I mention how much we love Sandra?

Checked in to the last room at 2:30am. The hide away bed was broken and wouldn't open flat. We had to pull the mattress off and put it on the floor for the kids. When I called the front desk he said it was the last room but I could talk to the manager for a discount the next day. I fell asleep to the smell of Lysol and deodorizer with my children on the floor. The next day the manager came up and opened the hide away bed which literally had parts breaking off and falling on the floor and then was unable to flatten. At this point he told me the bed was perfectly fine!? And that it was new and that was that. So if this sounds good to you - stay here! On the upside, breakfast was pretty good for a cheap hotel, thus the one star.

I checked feeling like I was coming down with the flu. Sandra at the front desk showed genuine concern and made sure I had things that would help me get a start to feeling better. Had to check out earlier than intended and the young lady the next day was also very helpful and kind. Great staff, nice rooms, very clean. Would stay again and again.

Sandra at the desk greated us with smiles and made our check in effortless. Our suite on the 3rd floor was fantastic. The stairway was right there for ease of exit and entrance. Breakfast was a “full southern” experience which we enjoyed. Although they were renovating, we did not experience any hardships whatsoever. All of the staff were amazing.

I checked in the hotel, started moving into my room, then realized the room was cold, Ice cold. Told the manager he simply said to turn on the heat!, I told him I did and the heat dues not work and he should have checked the room before sending in guests. Finally relucrtantly he told me to use another room, but since it was still being cleaned I had to wait an hour. So I waited an hour until he called me and said the room is ready. So I moved into this second room with my boxes of books and suitcases. Just to find out the small refrigerator, and microwave in the room didn't work at all. I called him again and he said to turn on the frig and wait. I tried it and waited two hours, nothing happened. So I called the front desk again and this time a woman answered and told me the same thing to turn it on and wait. I went to her desk and told her this was not acceptable and I needed both the frig and microwave . She said the manager is out of reach and if I don't like it I can leave and she will refund my money that I had paid for a seven night stay - over $600 . So I went to my room loaded all my stuff and was leaving the hotel to go somewhere else. So I asked her to refund my money. She shamelessly said she will charge me $94 for one night and refund the rest. I told her that is not what she told me few minutes ago but she was insisting to charge me $94 for the night even if I had left. So I decided to stay in the same room but keep my medicine and things that needed a refrigerator in my car since out side was very cold. Thar night and early morning I had to make several trips to my car for my medicine. That was a miserable night in a hotel that the manager and staff were very dishonest people and pure liers. Shame on them and the Best Western for hiring such low life people to run the hotel. I expected much more than this from the Best Western.

The rooms are good sized with a separate seating area which we liked. The beds were firm and nice. Everything clean. The room was pretty quiet but you could hear footsteps upstairs - I'd recommend getting a room on the top (third) floor). Also avoid a room right next to the outside doors - there are several - as you hear the door slam all night. There was a microwave and coffee maker. Water was nice and hot. Shows a bit of wear - the rolling desk chair was missing a caster, and the curtain didn't slide very well I was annoyed that even when I set the heater for the fan to always be on low, it would shut off for a minute every now and then - the noise / lack of noise transition tends to wake me. The gym had some machines that did not seem to be plugged in - all I could use were the treadmills and the weight machines. 24 hour coffee and bottled water (cold and room temp) in the lobby, nice. Breakfast was adequate though hardly exciting - microwaved eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, gravy. Some pretty basic pastries, yogurt, cereal, and the make your own waffle machines. Convenient location right off the interstate. There is a nice walk/jog trail just the other side of the interstate on Lakeshore.

Heat out in pool and room. Freezing cold and no help from staff. Could not get internet to work. Light out in room. Couch still had old sheets and is uncomfortable. Breakfast is good. So many hotels in the area....do not bother.

We stayed at this property one night. They are currently undergoing renovations, but that did not negatively affect the customer service. Sandra, at the front desk, greeted us with a smile and warm welcome. Our check in went smoothly. The remodeling crew was working on the 1st floor, and our room was on the 3rd floor. Our room was clean, quiet, and inviting. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was pretty typical of what you find at most hotels. Would stay again.

This is an excellent hotel to spend your travel time with. It is surrounded by many fine dining places, shopping and gasoline stations.The hotel staff are all very friendly and ready and willing to help the guests in the best manner possible. This I personaly experienced.

Stayed for 1 night before going to the Birmingham Bowl. Pleasantly surprised that they upgraded us to an Executive Suite. Lots of room, separate living room, 2 televisions, comfy king bed, and clean bathroom and shower. Nice hot breakfast with many choices included with room. Good room that was a good value!

This hotel is very convenient to Samford University for anyone that needs to attend something there. We have enjoyed two occasions. The service and room are very good and the breakfast is excellent. Good deal. Would recommend it.

While traveling to Missouri we needed to find a place midway to stay. We located the Best Western Carlton Suites, Birmingham Alabama to be about half way. We found the Hotel to be easily located, accommodations very comfortable, breakfast had a great variety and everyone cheerful and helpful.

At first glance, the lobby is inviting, however the rest of the place is not being well maintained. The bath towels were so frayed that one loose string caught on my foot and caused me to lose my balance. When we reported that to the front desk, the only response was "sorry." Apparently, safety of their customers is not a priority.

This is a nice hotel. Close to downtown and has several restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. The rooms were nice and the service was excellent. I will definitely stay here again when in Birmingham

Overall still good but starting to look a little rough and not kept up. Good service, clean room, good breakfast. Friendly customer service. I would choose this hotel again especially because it allows my dogs to stay.

Stayed for two nights to play some golf on the RTJ Trail. Great location just off the highway, good breakfast and decent wifi. Room was a nice king room with a nice layout. Had a few teams but they quieted down by 11 pm.

Didn't realize when I made the reservation, but the property location was quite close to our friend's home. That a very good restaurant was located directly across the street made the trip more enjoyable. We are totally unfamiliar with Birmingham; thank goodness we had a GPS to find the hotel.

I was pleasantly surprised with the look of the hotel, when I walked in the entire lobby smelled like fresh linen and clean. I made a remark to the associate at the counter that it smelled like "Fabulouso" which I use at home! (lol) Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Only downside was the phone in the room was malfunctioning and only the speakerphone option worked and no shower curtain in the shower. The room was clean and neat. Overall, VERY pleased with my stay.

Hotel was very nice, clean and front desk service was great! Very friendly. Room was clean. Bed was very comfy. The complimentary breakfast was very good, with lots of different options for you. Area seems safe and was quiet.

My husband and I were traveling back home and needed a place to stay for just the night. I read the reviews for this hotel and almost didn't stop because of them. However we decided to take the chance because of the rate and are glad we did. The hotel was very clean, quiet with a friendly staff. The room we had was on the 4th floor and appeared to have been recently updated. There was a division between the bed and bath and the couch and work center with a refrigerator, microwave and additional small sink. The tv was centered between the 2 areas. The bed was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was as breakfast is in this type of hotel, basic. We would stay here again.

We prefer to stay at Drury Inns as we travel with a hound-mutt, but they were both full in Birmingham the night we needed. This hotel was clean overall and the front desk staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. The furniture and decor are basic and somewhat outdated, but the rooms are comfortable. It is not a good sign when there is a sign at the front desk warning about parties and too many people in rooms. The breakfast was complete and very good. i can recommend this hotel, just don't set your sights too high.

Stayed in Birmingham for Premiere Birmingham. This was my second time staying at this location, and I was not disappointed! I will certainly stay here again if I'm in the area! I recommend Best Western to everyone!

Chose to stay here this past week while taking a child to tour local colleges. Was pleasantly surprised by the attentiveness of the front desk employees, particularly Sandra. Upon booking, I asked for a quiet room removed from noise and elevators so my child could do homework and essays. On the day of arrival, I called ahead to confirm our arrival time. When we arrived (hours later), Sandra said that she had been expecting us. Called us each by name and said that she had the room ready and although it was late, she gave us items to make our stay more comfortable. She was very helpful. Our room was quiet, well suited for our child to study and work. The bed was very comfortable. Water pressure was great. Room was clean and neat with every amenity. Internet was quick. The gym was mediocre as was breakfast but truly we have no complaints. We did not really come for either. Great location, right off the highway. Easily accessible to stores, restaurants, and universities. Upon checkout, another front desk clerk was also helpful in answering questions and sending us with water bottles for our long trip ahead. Very pleasant stay!

The rooms on the first floor are moldy smelling. The bed is hard and the furniture is old. Not worth the price tag. It is similar to motel 6. Also a smoke detector was hanging from the ceiling, but it appeared to work other than that.

Great looking and comfortable room in an ideal area of Birmingham. Ten minute drive to downtown area and collocated with a great variety of eating establishments that remain open late. Breakfast buffet has basic items, eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits, yogurts, waffle iron, juices.

Arrival was easy, great location right off the highway. The breakfast was amazing! Fresh cooked bacon and biscuits with eggs and grits (yum). The room, well, that's where the issues start. Worn flooring that hid holes (I found two) the tile directly inside the bathroom floor was loose. It was dark and had quite a wet smell. The bed was comfy but the sheets weren't clean, found hair under the pillow as soon as I moved it. (I'm blonde so no, I don't have black curly hair). We were placed on the third floor, which isn't normally a big deal until you come in on the second night to find that the elevator is broken and you have to re-park on the other side of the building and explain to your 70 year old mother that she had to climb stairs to get to their room. Yeah, front desk apologized but couldn't move one of the rooms. It just ruined the evening. Oh and forget using the internet, it was slower than slow.

Very nice hotel, very clean, friendly staff and very spacious room. Adjoining rooms were very accommodating since we had two rooms and were next door to each other. Very nice place to stay when you have a large family.

Outdated motel A/C units noisy and musty smelling. TV turned on at 5 AM while sleeping. So much for good sleep. LaQuinta and Drury right next door. Try them Staff apologized but nothing else such as reducing bill. Breakfast was the only good thing. They even moved us from first room due to extremely noisy ac unit. Second room less noisy but very smelly. Wife was concerned about mold.

Our room smelled awful and we found MOLD in the air conditioner. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The room smelled like old cigarettes, a dirty vacuum cleaner, and burnt hair. It was the nastiest place I've stayed.

This is a super nice hotel. Everything was new. It was nice and clean. The breakfast was very good. I would definitely stay here again. There is an outside pool. There was laundry room on each floor. The staff was nice and friendly. Very quiet.

The reason for this poor rating is because the room we stayed in had a very strong damp odor and also there was a long garden slug on the wall close to the bed that we discovered when we woke up. Otherwise the breakfast facilities and overall hotel presentation was great.

We were here after a long day on road with two small kids., so we were tired. Decor very tired, but it was clean enough. Unfortunately breakfast room is very small and we struggled to get in and sat down to feed the babies before 9am. We liked the set up of our room, where we could close off the 'bedroom' so kids could get to sleep.

the only great part was your clerrk the one from Las Vegas went out of her way to make sure we had every thing we needed just a very good please Lady to deal with when traving alway good to have some body who care and u get that feeling with this clerk ready to help with what ever we needed

I was in Birmingham on business during September. This is a very nice Best Western. The staff was professional and very nice! I will definitely be staying here again and woild defiantly recommend this hotel.

We spent the night at this property on our way from Tennessee to Florida as it was on the way. We couldn't be more disappointed - the carpet on the hallway was very dirty, the room had a very strong unpleasant smell, I was so happy that we had our pillows and sleeping bags as the bed didn't look very clean either. It was just a place to sleep for few hours and get back on the road. Breakfast at the morning was also a scary experience as the trays for hot items looked dirty. On the positive note hotel staff was very nice. Definitely we wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

I was really impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the nice rooms. The morning breakfast and evening brunch was way better than I expected. I always enjoyed drinking my morning coffee talking with Sandra at the front desk every morning . I don't think the staff could be any friendlier. I will definitely be back

I chose this hotel because out of the many 2 star hotels in the area, this one had a higher rating on Tripadvisor. The room was clean. I was glad to be on the 4th floor. The second floor gets a lot of traffic because the pool and exercise room are at the end of the 2nd hall floor. The fitness room looked nice when I finally found it, but there should be a sign near the elevator as to the location. I pity anyone staying near the elevator on the second floor. The ice machine was the loudest I've ever heard - it made a constant water trickling noise. I was irritated just waiting for the elevator! The hallway carpeting is very stained in some areas and should be updated. The room was in good condition. The wi-fi was excellent. The sheet listing the tv channels was completely incorrect which is annoying when you are from out of town and faced with 200 stations to choose from. I thought that maybe breakfast would let me give this hotel an extra star, but I was sorely disappointed. The breakfast room was tiny and I had to wait for a table. The choices were heavy in sweet carbs and salty meat. Lots of waffles, bagels, donuts, cereal, bacon, sausage, etc. There were the usual powered eggs and I did spy a couple of hard boiled eggs and some yogurts in a little fridge hidden under the counter. The lowly fruit selection consisted of one banana and two apples. Pretty pathetic. Even the oatmeal was the packaged kind and no toppings. Also, no tea. Just coffee, juice, water. Maybe I sound picky, but I travel A LOT and I know it can be so much better.

Escaping from Hurricane Irma with my partner and dog. Unfortunately we couldn't get reservations at the hotel chain we usually stay at. We hit Birmingham on our way to Nashville Tennessee and it was getting dark and we were tired. We stopped at a few hotels and they had no vacancies. We came across this hotel and they had one room left, so we decided to take it. It was a place to stay, which is all I can say about the room. The refrigerator did not work and the room smelled very musty. Breakfast was a typical continental breakfast, and was hot and hit the spot for our trek to the 2nd hotel on this evacuation trip. Bed was comfortable enough to get a decent night sleep. Staff was friendly. Next time we will definitely be more prepared for an evacuation and have hotel rooms booked at the chain of our choice.

Bacon and sausage was a plus for breakfast. Up to date decor. In a great spot for restaurants and shopping. The suite I stayed in had a pull out couch and a bar with a sink in it. Very nice looking room.

We stayed at BW Carlton Suites about 3.5 years ago. We made a special effort to use this hotel on a multi-night trip. Bad choice. The hotel is (1) under new management, (2) being renovated, and (3) not what it used to be. First alert that I had that something was different (other than the obvious signs of renovation of the common areas at the front of the hotel) were the several signs admonishing prospective guests of the rules against noise and room stuffing. My goodness, if I hadn't stayed at this property before with such good results, I would have immediately cancelled my reservation and sought another hotel. Okay, so I knew that the 3rd floor was typically quiet and far removed from the street. I requested a 3rd floor room and received a *lot* of push back from the person checking me in. Seems like we were going to be the only occupant of the third floor and that would be inconvenient for the housekeeping staff. What?? I got my room, but let's say I was not on the staff member's A-list! (And, by the way, there were several folks on the third floor.) Then we had to get our stuff to the 3rd floor. This required using a side entrance that, in the previous stay, was locked and required a room key. But the door was jambed open, apparently by some of the renovation changes. That door never was locked during our stay. Room was dreary. The renovation hadn't gotten there yet. Not sparkling clean, but okay. Breakfast, while not to previous standards, was decent. That was good, because I needed a better opinion of the hotel. Caution is recommended...

Check out is 11 a.m. At 10:55 a.m., housekeeping was knocking on my door, 11:02 a.m., the front desk was calling. When this was brought to management's attention, their actions were justified in management sight.

They had a management change since my prior stays. They don't seem to value Rewards Members as much. Great breakfast though, and a nice little reception each evening from 5-7 pm. Don't ask for late check out, you won't get it.

Driving from Ohio to New Orleans, Birmingham was a good stopping place. This hotel is right off of I-65 but surprisingly quiet. There are a number of restaurant options very nearby. The shower head is placed high on the wall so tall people will not bump their head on it. There are many outlets and USB ports around the room so no problem charging your devices without crawling under the desk to find an outlet. As with many hotels, the hallway lighting seemed very dim. There was only one elevator, so if the hotel were full, that could create long wait times. There is only one washer and dryer in the guest laundry. They are still renovations going on; at this time they seem to be exterior, and did not seem to create any disturbance. This is a very nice mid-range hotel. I would recommend it.

We were greatly surprised to see how nice the manager and staff were. They took extra care in giving us bottles of water when we left to continue our road trip. The highlight was the free drinks and snacks in the evening when we arrived, and the delicious breakfast that included good old Southern biscuits and gravy. Memorable.

Visiting Birmingham for a Leisure weekend this hotel was a pleasant surprise. Newly remodeled. The staff was excellent. The room clean. Hotel amenities and vending machines provided for snacks. Local restaurants and stores within easy walking distance

We enjoyed our stay here, the place is very well kept up, the rooms are nice and clean, and it was everything we expected. It was not where we thought, and in the dark it took us a wrong turn or two to find it, but it was well worth it.

Very old and dated. Furnishings are substandard. Toilet leaked. Reported it and was told maintenance would fix it. It did not happen. Food is powdered eggs, watered down eggs and milk was sour. Service personnel didn't speak or wouldn't help at breakfast bar. Reception personnel were very helpful.

This was our second stay at this hotel and the experience was just as good as the first stay. The breakfast is especially topnotch. All the food was hot and fresh and the serving trays were kept full. They even have lots of different toppings for the walk up waffle maker, much to the delight of my granddaughter!

Hotel is in a quiet surroundings and very nice landscaping. Easy access to the I65 and area abounds with fine dining 'establishments.Lots of shopping stores to shop from and even a Walmart nearby.This hotel is far enough from the hustle and bustle but close enough to shop.

The room was clean and the staff was friendly. The breakfast bar was clean and always full. The hotel was doing a few renovations at the time so they had electrical problems with the side doors upon entry. And no late check out service here, but other than that, our stay was great. I would recommend this hotel to anyone stopping in the Birmingham area.

I have always stayed here in the last 10 years and the staff as well as the facility have been great. I will recommend this to so anyone. Always relaxing and outstanding. Each time we have stayed here its right by the most popular restaurants and facilities .

We had a king suite. The room was very large, however it only had one air conditioner. It was placed where the king bed was but we had guests also staying in the other part of the room where the pull out bed was. I'm not sure that was cool enough. Other than that, it was an OK place to stay for an evening with tired travelers just trying to get to the beach. I would stay again. Breakfast was good.

Mistake was somehow made booking room. Only needed 1 room but 2 was booked. Was told at check in 1 of the rooms was cancelled. Next day, manager told me I WOULD BE charged for both rooms. Charged my credit card for 2 rooms, only had 1 room!!

This hotel is very convenient to downtown Birmingham and has several nice places to eat within walking distance. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We appreciated the manager's reception with snacks and drinks in the afternoon and the complimentary breakfast was a welcome addition. I was most impressed with the staff and management. They were extremely accommodating when some of our plans changed and very professional and friendly at all times during our stay. I recommend booking directly with the hotel because in my experience they go out of their way to make a personal connection with guests and this is easier to do if you call them. I periodically go to Birmingham on business and plan to stay at this Best Western Plus each time!

We stayed here for two nights on the way to Florida. It's situated in a sort of mall type setting but meant it was next to plenty of places to eat so that was handy. Only has an indoor pool which we didn't use but was always busy. Manager's reception was two drinks each and some snacks but still a nice gesture. Large suite with kitchen area. Good breakfast with lots of choice.

The breakfast in this hotel cannot be exceeded. The staff keep the food warm, and the area clean. There is one thing. They turn off the airconditioners when they clean the room. So if your room is on the west side of the building, you will need time for it to cool down before you try to sleep. it will be warm. Otherwise this was a great place to stay. I would recommend it to everyone.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is traveling. The service was great, and the hotel was clean and quiet. When I checked in the office clerk was very friendly and answered all my questions professionally. The breakfast the next morning was well prepared and excellent tasting.

During my stay the hotel was in the midst of renovations, which means there were discomforts in the same. But anyway the stay was more than discreet. Friendly and helpful staff, clean and well kept rooms. Probably after the jobs will be even more welcoming. However, it should be noted that the structure needed it. Great transit location to and from Birmingham. Several Hot Plates and restaurants nearby, within walking distance.

Staff was cool. $116 a night during refurbishment was a little high. Managers "happy hour", very weak. Comfy beds. OK breakfast. I think I try a different place next time, but I wouldn't worry about staying again

Room was great, staff went above board to help. Did not do the breakfast as we were on our way to hospital for exam. We have stayed here before and will stay again. Great deal price wise and location was easy to locate. We always enjoy our visit to Carlton Best Western in Homewood.

My aunt and I just needed a place to rest before picking up my puppy from my breeder. The room was large, with fridge and kitchenette. Front desk was pleasant and informative. The room did smell of mildew, but it wasn't overbearing. Safe place for ladies to stay in.

The hotel itself is fine, its in a good location near some terrific restaurants, but what makes it stand out was the staff who went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Lovely people, and we would definitely stay there again.

Hotel was decent. Renovation of the Lobby and surrounding areas should have been communicated prior to visit. There was a misunderstanding as to the pay policy. I was told that I needed to pay upfront, however, upon checking on, I was told fees were not collected until checkout time.

Room set up nice. Decent shower. Comfy bed. Food and gym were average at best. I had an odor in this room (very musty) that became worse over time. Was offered lysol spray as a fix or room change. They did the best they could at the time, but still disappointing nonetheless.

Enjoyed 7 nights last week at Best Western Plus in Homewood, AL. Lovely, large room with pullout couch, wet bar and king bed. Friendly staff. Great breakfast, scrambled and hard boiled eggs, bacon, sausages, gravy and biscuits, small cut up cooked potatoes, yogurt, waffels, oatmeal, breads and bagels for toasting, small muffins and sweet rolls, juices, milk, coffee, peanut butter and jelly packets, apples, bananas and oranges. Yummy! Friendly staff in large breakfast room off the lobby. Free Happy Hour M- Thurs., 2 drink limit and snacks. Free USA paper daily at desk. Yes, the lobby floor and hallway floor was being replaced, and almost done when we checked in 9 days ago. 2 days later all was finished and looked very modern with light grey flooring, lovely modern furniture and colorful lamps and overhead mirror and light-- heard a wall Waterfall was coming next. Washer and dryer room floor was being redone too, but that was done in 2 days and laundry could be done then. Nice indoor pool with outside patio. Walking distance to Arby's (ice cream machine was out for repair, ugh!), IHOP, McDonalds, Landry's Seafood ( higher prices, but so delicious), Black Pearl, O'Charley's (families welcomed, good food), McAlisters Deli (ate there twice, good food), and Wendys. Hooters and Walmart across the highway. Gas station just down the road (Lakeshore St.) Got a good hotel rate on Priceline.com. Yes, to this nice hotel.

Upon arrival to the hotel, I immediately encountered problems. The first issue was that the hotel was under renovations and the conditions left were not suitable. The floors were being redone on the lower levels so the walkways were completely demolished and rough throughout the entire floor (causing damages to my rolling luggage). The workers weren't there as i arrived, but I was awaken extremely early with the sounds of construction work being done. The Employee who checked me in was rude, wasn't listening to my concerns, and seemed a bit verbally combative. If I hadn't made reservations through my employer, I would have vacated the premises immediately upon arrival. In these cases it would have been suitable for the Hotel to notify those with reservations before hand of the repairs, then giving me the option of having to endure the construction as a choice, and not a forced decision. The next morning the cleaning lady enters my room and i asked if would be possible to come back as i was preparing for a meeting. She then states that she was trying to get off early and if i wanted the room to be cleaned then it would have to be now. This wasnt the best display of customer service, but i obliged her request to only come back to a rush job that she had performed. This was a bit disturbing and inconvenient. Lastly I made reservations at a set pricing but when I received the final receipt the prices listed under the reservation was not the price that I was charged. I attempted to discuss the issue with the manager who only frustrated me more than assisted, and the issue went unresolved. My job requires frequent travels so I attempt to stay within the chain wherever possible, but this location was by far the worst one I've stayed in yet. I will not be returning to this location for future travels.

We've stayed here twice and will stay here again. Great location to shopping and restaurants. Clean and very friendly staff. Breakfast was good and it's also a dog friendly hotel. Bed was comfy and price was good.

I'm sure this property will be very nice once renovation is completed. Until then it is very chaotic checking in and staff is very disorganized. They had us enter a doorway near the pool which was close to our room; however we had to climb around construction materials to enter. Craziness.

Just stayed here, the website made it look so much nicer than it was. awful rude staff & they kept harassing us about leaving, we only left a couple minutes late. they called us and hung up on me when i apologized, we also had people outside our door just staring at us. not worth anything more than $50 per night

Finding this hotel was a pleasant surprise. It was clean and comfortable and the staff was great. It was a good price and in a convienent location. Close to Walmart (that is always good when you go out of town) and plenty of restaurants near by. We will be back in the Fall.

This is a great place to stay, just off I-65 in south end of Birmingham. A full buffet breakfast is included, which consists of eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, biscuits, waffles, fruit juice, coffee, yogurt, and more. The spacious indoor pool is attached to the building, with large windows around three sides. A pleasant place to simply relax. We stayed six days the last week of April. They were remodeling the lobby area at the time, but it imposed no inconvenience. The only negative is the side entrance from the parking lot. One must descend a short, steep stairway to enter the building; a little tricky if one is handling luggage.

I had a quick trip passing through Birmingham en route to my destination and back. This hotel was good enough to use both times. Breakfast was good though the eggs got cold quick. They were renovating some of it but it wasn't bad. Clean. Huge room with a living area, 2 TVs, kitchen and bathroom skin, sliding door separated space from bedroom and rest of room if desired, couch, microwave, and fridge. Would be good for long stay. Cool pool area too. We didn't use it but checked it out and thought it looked very nice...blue glow to pool and the roof/set up was almost like being outdoors.

My wife was confined to UAB Hospital for 3 months. I stayed at the attached hotel which was over priced and frankly not as nice as Best Western Plus. On recommendation from folks at UAB I found this hotel 10 minutes down I 65 from downtown. Great location, great staff, extremely sensitive to my situation. Would definitely stay here again.

The hotel staff was First Rated. The Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. I had Hot Grits for Breakfast with real cooked bacon!! The price was $100 less than a similar Hilton or Marriott property in the local area of Birmingham.

Great location to Homewood, Vulcan and Red Mountain parks. Quite, clean room with selection of firm and soft pillows. Good hot breakfast with eggs, sausage and waffles. Nice staff. Lighted parking lot.

We did a last minute booking enroute because of the good reviews this hotel received. The lobby was in the process of a remodel and wallpaper was being pulled off the walls when we arrived.. The room were were given was very outdated and dark as were the halls. Looks like the whole place needs an update as does the Manager's Reception. Unfortunately, having significant allergies I reacted almost immediately to the environment and knew it was not in my best interest to stay there. I will say that the staff was very responsive to my concern and did issue a refund for the night. There was no mention of an remodeling in progress when I looked at the BW website. The location was good accounting for a 2 versus a 1 rating.

Even though they are under construction, it was clean and newer. Our room was nice. Breakfast was great. Would definitely stay here again. The only thing we noticed was the floor in our room was uneven. Same thing in the hallway.

You're not far from downtown Birmingham, easy parking, good wifi, hotel is clean. Staff was very helpful when we asked for advices about where to go in Downtown Birmingham, there are plenty of food option in the area. I would definitely recommend it

Hotels are great and the people to but hotel chain from what I found doesn't standup to the ads.place is great service super in all will stay on way home back to Canada food was great not much more to say places are good value.

The bed and bathroom were very clean and the Staff is most helpful. On that Monday afternoon, we enjoyed the Manager's Reception. The drinks and snacks were great. Great breakfast in the morning with waffles and syrup, eggs, bacon (cooked just right, not soggy) and sausage... and much more. We have added this hotel in our "favorites" list and any traveling we do along I-65, we will make sure that we will return to this hotel. Thank you Charlotte for welcoming us after 8 hours on the road. You explained all the amenities of the hotel and provided great suggestions for dinner.

Isn't that what most people want? The people were nice and I felt safe while traveling alone. They do have breakfast. It's not great but it's food and it's free. The coffee was really good. There is a pool, coffee in your room and vending machines. Additionally there are few places close by. The room also has a mini fridge and microwave as well as a desk area. Someone commented on the TV being in between the living room area and bed area... true. If you have kids it might be annoying but I didn't even turn on the TV. I would stay again.

While we found the room very clean and comfortable, and appreciated the extra room with sitting area and kitchenette, it was the welcoming and helpful staff that made the difference. Highly recommended.

Our stay was very relaxing. We had 2 rooms and we were placed across the hall from our daughter and her family. It was so convenient for us to help with our grandson. They used the pool our last night and loved it. We also loved the convenience of being close to shopping and restaurants.

Great place to stay at. I've been to a few hotels and I got to say this one was the cleanest I've ever seen. And the nicest people that work there. I will be coming back to it if I ever have to again. Nice and clean place to eat breakfast and he even has a meet and greet get together at night with snacks.(if you want to have a snack at night it is a great spot) small kitchen net if you bring your own snacks too. Indoor swimming is nice and warm and a workout room. Rooms for handicap too. All smoke free. But nice and clean spots outside for that. I would recommend it to anyone. Loved my stay.

The rooms were nice, clean and convenient. The knob for the shower was a bit hard to turn but other than that the staff was every friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is needing a getaway.

Hotel is clean, staff are nice and very friendly. Hotel room look out of date a little on carpet and color. But it clean. Hotel location is convenience location, across street from Wal-Mart, and surround by good restaurants. If you drive it also near by exit to highway.

Love this hotel! The owner and staff go out of their way to make sure we always have a pleasant stay! This hotel is my home away from home when visiting my daughter at Samford University! The employees are always extremely friendly and helpful - I highly recommend this hotel!

This is my 2nd time staying at the property. the room was clean and spacious -- I was very comfortable --Customer Service was also spectacular. The hotel is located near many food options as well. I would definitely stay again.

We were on our way back north after an RV trip so needed a hotel with good parking. This hotel was in a mall area so parking was great. Check in was quick and friendly and our room was a good size. The Managers reception was a nice feature too. This was one of the nicest BWs we have stayed in in the USA. Breakfast was limited but complimentary so no complaints!

We stayed for one night. Upon arriving we were greeted with a warm welcome from the lady checking us in. There was fresh fruit for arriving guests. The hotel was clean with a home feel in the lobby. Our room was large. We had a microwave, frig, and 2 TVs. Everything was in working order. On Monday thru Thursday they have a Manager's Reception. They offered finger foods but enough that we did not have to go out for dinner. This hotel is conveniently located off I-65 but close to downtown Birmingham. Would definitely stay here again.

Came to Birmingham for the birth of my granddaughter. Chose this hotel for the price and location. It exceeded all my expectations. Staff was friendly, room and hotel was clean,great breakfast and I even enjoyed the manager's evening snacks. I would surely stay here again.

We stayed at the Best Western Carlton Suites for a two night stay in the Birimingham area. The best part was the professionalism and the friendliness of the staff From the General Manager on down, we never encountered anyone without a smile. They were quite busy due to a major football game, but that didn't stand in the way of a great experience for my wife and I. The property was sparkling clean through out. Our room was a King Suite on the second floor. Very clean, well appointed, and well maintained. We will not hesitate to stay there again when we are in the area.

I've stayed at this Best Western location over 10 times and this stay was the best yet. A manager came around at the complimentary breakfast and evening reception and greeted every guest and inquired how their stay was going. Possibly the best managed hotel I have ever experienced. The staff was very polite and helpful.

Management and associates were super nice. No problem with pet. $20.00 fee though. Maybe rooms could use some updating, but they were clean. Breakfast was fine, we had eggs, bacon, grits, juices, coffee, sweet rolls. We were given complimentary water upon checking out. We had no problem with reservations

Great place to stay. A very good value for the price. The Manager provides guests with a Happy hour every Monday through Thursday,. Staff makes you feel right at home and are extremely helpful. Perfect place to stay when in the Birmingham area as it is so close to everything (downtown, shopping, zoo, the colleges, and more shopping).

Nicest Best Western I have stayed at. Beautiful, clean and spacious guest room. Clean white comforter instead of those stuffy fabric bedspreads some others use. Better selection of breakfast foods at this BW.

Hotel looks good but looks are deceiving. Worst bed I have ever tried to sleep in. I travel and have traveled for a couple of decades. The bed was like sleeping on box springs except box springs don't have lumps. This place is not for anyone looking for a restful night. Awful.

I would not recommend this hotel. The walls and ceiling were paper thin. It sounded like a herd of elephants were above us all night. The television kept turning on by itself throughout the night. Plus to top it all off, they had cockroaches. We told the front desk when we checked out. They apologized and refunded us $20.00.

We got a King Suite for $89 + whatever taxes/fees, reserving directly from the hotel website. The room was clean, spacious, comfortable. The front desk was very friendly at both arrival and checkout. Great location right off 65 near Samford. Tripadvisor reviews gave me confidence in this modestly priced hotel, and my confidence was justified, as the hotel met all of my expectations.

needed a place for a one-night stopover. this hotel is clean and comfortable and in a good location. we did not take advantage of the afternoon reception, but looked like a good benefit of staying. the breakfast, included, was excellent.

The beds were so perfect, extra amenities like extra pillows and blankets are easy to find, decor is modern, charging station for the many devices, the place was incredible. By far one of the best BW's I have stayed at. Great location with nearby restaurants, Wal-Mart and Sam's. Highly recommend a visit to this hotel.

Let's start with the good: friendly front desk staff, fast and easy check in, beautiful foyer, terrific breakfast. Now the not so good: room is dated, musty, carpet needs to be replaced, bed uncomfortable, very thin and pilled sheets, shower didn't drain well. Overall not bad for the money, but I don't think I'd stay here again.

The hotel is clean and quiet. On check-in, we were directed to use entrance A or C for direct access to the elevator. These entrances are on opposite sides of the building and are functionally identical. I was surprised to find that these entrances are 6 steps down from the parking lot. Anyone with mobility restrictions will have a problem with these entrances. Our king suite consisted of a single room with a partial wall between the sitting and sleeping areas. The flat screen tv is mounted directly to the wall opposite the couch and bed. The viewing angles weren't good. Breakfast was on par with other chain hotels. Drury Inn and Suites is next door at 160 State Farm Pkwy. We stayed in the Drury in 2015. The next time we come through Birmingham, we'll stay in the Drury.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. Check in took no time at all. The hotel was very clean. The room was as advertised and clean. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was better than average. The only down side was the pull out sofa was not very comfortable for the kids. Overall excellent hotel at a great price. I recommend you stay here if in the Birmingham area

Great place to stay, everyone is very friendly, and helpful. easy to get to off the e-way. with lots of places to eat at, within walking distance. Rooms are very clean, and nice size. Managers reception very nice with a large verity of drinks and food. I would stay again!

From check in to check out, customer comfort and service are a primary focus for ALL staff. We were greeted politely by all employees we passed. Front desk would inquire about our day. Felt so welcomed to be staying there. Pool area very clean and friendly. Breakfast buffet plentiful, even at almost the time to close.

The reservation I had made for the second night had been cancelled and I was left without a room after a long days work in the area. I then received an attitude from the manager when I expressed my displeasure.

All personnel are friendly and professional and every thing is very clean. Internet service is available. There are many places to eat within walking distance or driving. The complimentary breakfast is very gracious and fresh. overall this is a wonderful and reasonably price place to stay.

As in the title this is our 3rd stay here. We go to gulf Shores every year and i plan on staying here every year. The rooms are clean well maintained. Water is hot good pressure in the shower. Parking lot is well lighted with cameras. Staff has allways been helpful

The owner/operator of this hotel, Mr. Rony Naik is the reason that we visit this hotel annually on our way to Florida. Mr. Naik is the friendliest, most caring and pleasant individual that we have ever encountered at any hotel. He visits each table at breakfast with a smile and sincere care. Mr. Naik's dedication to the customer is outstanding. All hotels could learn from his genuine passion for putting the customer first!

Our 3rd stay in 3 years as a stop over on the way to Florida. On M-T-W-T from 5pm to 7pm CST they have a Managers Reception with snacks, beer, wine and mixed cocktails. It really tops off my 7+ hour drive to relax with a cold one before retiring to the room. The nice thing is you aren't driving anywhere so you don't have to stop at one...and it's free. Do tip the bar attendant. The rooms are clean and everything smells so fresh. Breakfast is available from 0600 to 0900.The GM Rony Naik is a wonderful host. He greats everyone at the reception and at breakfast. I'll be back in February. See you then Rony!

I wanted to put this up right away but had health problems. But I didn't forget.... I spend a lot of time in hotels and Resorts. My number #1 is cleanliness of a property especially my sleeping quarters. I am happy to say this hotel is very well maintained. My room was perfect. The location is convenient: It was nice that eateries were within walking distance. Staff was great. Special Thanks to Dionca (Dee ?sp) . Some people just have that extra special something that makes them stand out. Hotels need more people like her. She has that extra something that gives you a feeling of being at home. I felt that way and I assume others did because she greeted and engaged with everyone in the same way. As someone that spends a lot of time traveling. It's a breath of fresh air when you find someone like her in an establishment. My overall experience was GREAT! I would definitely stay here again.

I have stayed at this hotel several times over the past few years and was astonished at the improvements that have been made in a year including upgrading of the room decor and exterior. All of the staff were cheerful and helpful plus the General Manager / Franchise owner came around at breakfast to speak to each guest and inquire about their stay. They have a very good free breakfast which included bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy on the hot bar. You also can make waffles. Cereal, toast (raisin & french), muffins, yogurt, fruit, coffee and various juices are also available. In the afternoon there is a "Manager's happy hour" with snacks and 2 free drinks (beer, wine). Once again, I had a very positive experience at this hotel.

Great 1 night stay along the road. Wanted to stay just south of Birmingham, AL so not to be stuck in any rush hour traffic in the morning. Hotel was right along the highway, easy to find, great rate for the room. Just great. They even allowed us to sneak in to get a cup of coffee to go before 6am so we could get on the road. Friendly staff.

Convenient, friendly, clean. The manager and front desk people were outstanding. I highly compliment them. I left an item in the room and they were so accommodating to hold it for me. (Only one unusual thing happened. The TV came on once late at night and again the next morning. The remote in the room next to mine may have triggered it. At least that is the only thing I can think of.)

The afternoon cocktail hour was a pleasant surprise .The rooms were extremely clean. Excellent location with plenty of nice restaurants in walking distance.. Breakfast was also well prepared and separated from main lobby area which was nice

Just a one night flying visit, but the room more than lived up to expectations. Internet (free!) log in was easy and quick. I slept well, undisturbed by exterior noise, whether from outside or inside the hotel. Did not have the included breakfast, as I had eaten too well the night before, so no comments about that experience. All the staff I dealt with were courteous, helpful and efficient.

My wife and I chose this hotel for a one night stay when passing through Birmingham, Alabama. I am leery of Best Western hotels because I have found them to vary from places I would not want to spend one night to places like this one where I would be happy to stay for an extended period. The hotel was very clean and well-maintained, staff was very friendly and competent. Reservations, check-in and check-out all worked perfectly=.

We stayed here on our way to Destin. Hotel was clean and very convenient to I-65. I like having a small, sort of separate, sitting area to watch tv and work on the computer. The bed was a little hard. Two lights did not work, need new bulbs. The so called breakfast was horrible. We got downstairs for breakfast at 8:00 am. There was hardly anything to eat. What they did have was not good. I never saw anyone come to replenish the food the whole time we were there having orange juice and cold bacon and gravy that had a weird taste. There were 3 biscuits, 4-5 pieces of cold bacon and some eggs. No bread for toast, no muffins, no pastries, no sausage, nothing. A few pieces of fruit that was not edible, tasted spoiled. This was out first stay and our last. Sorry Best Western but Drury Inn next door beats you by a mile!

Hotel was in a very nice location and close to various amenities in the area. The staff was welcoming and professional. I enjoyed my stay and the service of the hotel staff. You can't go wrong staying at this Best Western Plus location.

This hotel was awesome from the time we walked into the lobby. We had originally booked another hotel down the street and after staying one night we left and found this hotel. What a pleasant surprise. The hotel manager and staff were so friendly and helpful not to mention how clean and big the rooms are. They also serve a complete warm breakfast which is included! We are definitely going back.

The worst best western we ever stayed at and the manager was not much help either please do not stay at this hotel. the staff is rude especially the night shift the breakfast was good but again the staff is rude and you talk to the manager her does not do anything but says he's sorry.

The hotel and staff was great. The breakfast assortment was exceptional. We were even offered water for the road at check-in and check-out. The only thing that could be better was a swivel mount on the TV for better viewing.

We stopped at this hotel on our way from Indianapolis to Gulf Shores for one night. I really enjoyed the layout of the rooms and how customer-service oriented it was. The free breakfast had many options and I was thrilled to find French toast! Everything was very modern, and I was comfortable staying there with my husband and 2-year old. I will keep this place in mind for any future visits to the gulf!

I would recommend this hotel hands down over any other around. Not only was it extremely clean in both our rooms but it was also very affordable. All of the staff are obviously hard working and care about the hotel. They were very helpful and friendly including the manager, Rony whom we met first at the counter. . I had asked on line for feather pillows and they were in the room when I arrived. The manager reception which is Monday through Thursday, is very nice with decent food (chicken wings and salsa and chips, nice cheese and crackers, etc., and beer and wine and soft drinks. Its nice too that there are not too many people either. And the attendant Angela was so very nice and helpful!! The breakfast is also delicious with some cheese grits that are awesome and they have fresh fruit too. They seemed to always have bacon and sausage yum!. The food was very nicely laid out. You can walk across the street to several restaurants including Landry's seafood (also recommend) and Arbys. Didn't get to swim in the pool but it looked very nice and so does the work out room. It had everything you would need. I felt very safe staying there for the four nights we stayed. I liked how close the hotel was to the interstate and every where we needed to go as it is so centrally located. Rony keeps his hotel in tip top shape and runs it impeccably. No wonder everyone keeps coming back. See you next time Rony!

The staff was amazing. The maintenance man emptied my trunk through the backseat and used the emergency trunk release, when my trunk wouldn't open. The manager actually came around to each table during his daily reception with hors d'oeuvres and cocktails and talked to everyone. Wonderful people and a wonderful place.

At first the long hallway was daunting, but then I realized it was no further to our room than other motels we have stayed in. The straight hallway makes it seem longer than it is. The hot breakfast is good. Good way to start your day. The general manager is Rony Naik. Best Western should clone him for their other motels. He and his staff are great. Even the maids are polite and customer service oriented. The rooms are large, well lit and very quiet. My wife especially appreciated the reading lamps on the head of the bed. Highly recommended, even with the long hallways!

Every summer we have a conference in Birmingham, and we always stay at this location. Consistently comfortable and clean rooms along with great service and a very good breakfast. The evening food/drink options are nice as well.

The Best Western Plus Carlton Suites manage gave his customers umbrellas as appreciation for his guests ...I have never seen a manager greet his guests every morning with a warm welcome and a smile as a matter of fact every employee that works here goes out and beyond for their customers. We are going on our second week of being here and every morning is a joy coming down for breakfast...Also, on Mon- Thur they have a manages appreciation for the guests from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm with chicken, meatballs, different kinds of cheeses and many snacks ..What other hotel you know of that does this? The rooms are large and modern... I especially love the bedroom and the whirlpool tub— at Best Western Plus Carlton Suites.

Worst service I have ever experienced. Came back into room at 11:30 pm exhausted and ready to sleep and had no bedding on beds! Was given sheets and had to make my own bed. Then the following day the same thing happened again! Total miscommunication between staff. On the other hand, breakfast was great.

This property is clean, secure and well maintained. The location is convienent to I-65, shopping, eating, golfing, hospitals and several major universities. The staff is friendly and willing to go the extra mile to ensure a happy stay.

We recently stayed at the Best Western Carlton Suites near Birmingham, Alabama and we are very glad that we did! I located the property using Trip Advisor and a third-party booking offered us a terrific price ... but, we hesitated because we weren't sure how adding additional days, or leaving early, would be handled should the case arise. So, I telephoned the inn directly and found them very easy to work with. They honored the rate, assured us we could check out early if needed, or extend our stay if needed at the same rate. The hotel was super clean and modern. Lots of electrical outlets in the room. The "suite" concept is formed by using the bathroom to kind of divide the hotel room space into two areas, one for sleeping and the other for business and mini-kitchen. There's a sink, fridge, and microwave. About the only down side is that when one member of the party rises early to work, there's not a good way to turn on a light that doesn't illuminate the sleeping area, as well. Besides the complimentary full hot breakfast we expected from the reservation, when we arrived we were also delighted to find there's a complimentary manager's reception each Monday to Thursday evening with hors d'oeuvres and beverages. What a deal! We liked the inn so much, we'll stay there again -- in fact, on leaving we made reservations for our next trip through the area three weeks hence.

Picked this location for the purpose to eat at Landry's Seafood which was across the street. That was convenient but it was hard to find. Glad there was still a little daylight left. As soon as we arrive, the manager and a helper were exchanging out the tv remotes in every room. We just wanted to unload our things and go to dinner. Told them to do it the next morning after we left because we weren't going to use the tv. That was a first in all my stays anywhere. Not good planning on their part. The bed slept ok and many choices for breakfast.

We were on a 2 week road drive driving from up north to down south. We decided to stay here last min. There were 4 of us. We choose the pull out couch bed and King size bed. Our room was clean and roomy, bathroom decent size, we had a kitchenette room. Staff offered great southern hospitality. Managers were active and greeted guest breakfast asking if everything was ok during our stay. The FREE breakfast was GOOD, they offered a nice variety. Our most favorite part was the managers appreciation hour (for adults) offering free Alcoholic drinks and snacks. the drinks were a pleasurable size and they were not watered down....yes I said FREE DRINKS! (Mature atmosphere, no drunks, very professional) They offer free wifi and the TV Screens are up to date and big! The have a nice clean pool, although we did not swim only viewed it. We have no complaints at all!!! Not far from 16th st. Ebenezer Baptist Church (remembering "4 little girls") and the civil right memorial and museum.

My stay was perfect in every way, Clean rooms comfortable beds nice bathroom. would recommend this hotel while in Birmingham, Alabama. This is the nicest hotel and the prices are very reasonable. My room was on the third floor and it was very quite.

Stayed in a king suite. I found it much smaller than most King suites I've frequented, but the room was very clean. The tv was halfway between the two rooms, so the two rooms were practically just one with a three foot dividing wall at the head side of the bed. Free breakfast was very good. I expected a somewhat larger room size for the price ($129 that night), but overall still a decent value including breakfast. Front desk staff was very courteous.

Truly, these folks go above and beyond anything I have ever seen, and I travel a lot!! From the owner constantly checking up to make sure you are totally happy, to the great rooms (SPACIOUS), this place shocked me for the price! My military unit was there, and we were practicing some music in the conference room. While we were in there, one of the ladies came in with a huge and fresh plate of cookies! The manager found out we couldn't be at the normal manager's reception the next day so he ordered out for a bunch of pizza to feed us lunch!!! Truly fantastic service, and I wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else if I ever go back through Birmingham. The service almost seems like an era gone by, where the customer is a privilege to the company, not an inconvenience. Thank you for a fantastic stay!

Clean rooms and lobby. Nice breakfast. Loved having more room than a typical hotel room. A place to sit other than the bed. Ideal location to everything we wanted to do and see in Birmingham. Great for our small family of 3. We had the king and our daughter had the pull out sofa.

We had a group of 41 rooms for 9 nights and we were blown away with the level of service the staff provided throughout our entire stay. All of the staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to give us 5-star service. They even treated our group to a pizza lunch! The rooms are super clean and housekeeping went above and beyond to keep our rooms comfortable. The pool area is really nice and the water is kept very warm. The fitness room is bigger than most hotel fitness rooms. I absolutely recommend this hotel. We were here for business, but it is a great place for families, as well.

We stayed here on our way to panama city beach. The first hotel that I have stayed in that gave you a bottle of water at check-in. Rooms were clean and quiet. Breakfast was very good. it was busy but they did their best to keep everything stocked.

We stayed here three nights for a business trip in the King Whirlpool Suite. The staff were friendly and the room was spacious and clean. We had an issue with the checkout time and the manager was very gracious in working out a compromise with me. There was also a billing error, but the management corrected it promptly and with a smile. Breakfast had a generous selection each day. We visited the Managers Reception twice and the hostess was friendly and made surprisingly good cocktails. The only complaint I have was the pool area. My plan was to read, sun, and swim for three days while my boyfriend was at his conference during the day. The indoor pool was much smaller and more rundown than it seemed in the picture. Because the pool is surrounded in a greenhouse type enclosure, the water was so warm it felt like bath water. The atmosphere in the enclosure was also stifling. There are several ceiling fans that I found a switch and turned on, and there is an exhaust system, but they did little to cool the air. The room is surrounded on all sides by sliding glass doors, but only two were operational and had screens. After opening the two doors, the temperature improved slightly. If the ownership fixed this problem the area would be much more usable. The pool area did have a nice outdoor patio with two small tables and chairs. I was able to move one of the reclining lounges outside to sun each day and then I brought it back inside. The second day I was there I had the pool to myself. No one saw that I opened the doors so they remained open all night and the temperature was more bearable the second day. It still wasn't pleasant, but it was bearable. Overall it was a fairly nice hotel for the price. If they fixed the pool issues it would be a four star review.

Great breakfast!! They have a breakfast concierge that makes sure everything is well stocked and clean. Crispy bacon... yum! Nice suites. No surprises. Great location. Will definitely stay here again on our annual trip to Destin.

We stayed in this Best Western on our way to a soccer tournament in South Carolina. The staff was so friendly and they really made you feel welcome. The room was perfect and very comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We used this hotel for a one night stay in Birmingham. The staff is so friendly and professional. The owner greeted us at check-in, the evening happy hour, and again at breakfast. The staff made sure everything was to our satisfaction. The hotel looked newly renovated, I will strongly suggest this hotel to everybody.

I'm at the platinum level in the BW program (It has no significant perks but you're supposed to feel "special". Whatever.) but I never pull the "Do you know who I am?" line when I have an issue. That said, at this place one wouldn't need to. The staff, including manager, were welcoming at check in and recognized and greeted me later as I passed through the lobby. One quirky but amusing moment occurred after checking in when I thanked the woman behind the desk but said I didn't know how to thank her by name. She looked at me oddly when I bent my head over and tried to read her name tag. Turns out she had her name tag on upside down. We all got a brief chuckle out of that. Everything with the room was just fine. It would be nice to find a copy of the bill under the door instead of going to the front desk to get it. The breakfast room is a bit small for the potential number of guests but we had to wait less than 5 minutes at 8AM for a table for two. Something prevalent on this visit prompted a rhetorical question: Why do some guests continue to sit there long after they have finished eating, thereby keeping others waiting, and no staff asks politely if they can make room for others? Save that behavior for Starbucks where you can buy over priced-but not very good drinks at high prices- and so be entitled to park yourself in one spot until you get bed sores on your butt.

The customer service to this particular property of Best Western did not do the Best Western name any justice. From the time I checked in, to the day I checked out, the word that came to me was, "inconvenience". The staff at the front desk (regardless of the time of day) seem to have not read the 'customer service" manual. It was always about how they were feeling that day, evening, or whatever the time of day was and what they were going through in life. The front desk does not go the extra mile, or any for that matter and the manager makes excuses for them instead of ensuring that the customer has a great experience. However, the room service was amazing, Marisol was the absolute best that I have experience for the 8 days that I was there. The next time I am in the area, I will visit the Drury Inn next door.

This 'was one of the best hotels I have stayed in. The GM Rony Naik was very outgoing and nice and was always around the hotel making sure you were ok. The ladies at the desk were friendly and helpful. The food was the greatest and a big hand to the lady in the kitchen.

We booked our room on the wrong night at another hotel. This hotel opened their doors to us to let us stay. Great pool. Breakfast was great. There are many restaurants and gas stations in the area. This is just off of the highway, which is nice when traveling.

We stayed at this hotel on our way back to New Orleans from Pigeon Forge, TN. The hotel is very clean. The only problem I had is their website says that they have roll a way beds and they don't. We are a family of five, three teens, and just could not sleep in just two beds. I went to Walmart, which was just down the street, and got an air mattress which was much cheaper then getting another room.

Called from the room looking for a place to stay. Check in staff gave good directions. Check in staff extra friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast had a nice selection of good hot food. Not just danish. Check out staff extra friendly. Would stay here again.

Stayed here on our way to the zoo. It was a nice trip. Customer service was great. King suite was spacious and comfortable. Traditional decor even though most hotels are going more modern. Everything was well maintained and in good condition. Rooms have been updated and had ample plugs. I like hotels that have some character and are not cookie cutter. Management at this hotel is top notch. Would definitely stay here again.

Hotel building very dated. They have updated the bedding and furniture in rooms; however, the sheets were scratchy. The coffee was like water. The toilets flush like your on an airplane; scared me to death. The bathroom fans are loud and noisy. The towels were fine, the hotel was clean. The paint color of the bedrooms are putrid orange. The hotel lobby furniture and curtains look like they came from an 1800's horror film.

My family stayed here last night in room 233, may 20th, and I don't know where to begin... As soon as we walked in, the older lady at the counter was very rude. We got to our room and seen it was not like the pictures at all. The beds were very uncomfortable, the pull out couch was very lumpy, and we could feel the springs poking through the top, also the sheet on the pullout couch had holes all in it. We asked for a few extra pillows so I could make a pallet on the floor for my 2 yr old so he wouldn't have to sleep on the pullout couch and risk getting stabbed by the springs, and the lady at the front desk was rude again. After fighting with her, we finally got ONE extra pillow. I ended up sleeping on the pullout couch with my son, but we were unable to sleep at all. Also, there were dead roaches in the fridge. The room was either really hot or really cold. The breakfast was absolutely horrible. If the room wasn't a non refundable room, we would have left the minute we walked in. I don't know how this hotel has the ratings that it does, I just hope no one else gets fooled the way we did.

This hotel is extremely clean and the front desk people are great. The location is easy to get to / right next to the highway I 65 North. Quiet/ spacious room/ We ate at O'Charleys the grilled asparagus was the best I have ever had. Service a little slow but they were very nice.

There were five in our family that stayed for the night. The room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. I thought we were getting 2 king beds, but they weren't. It's ok, though. I plan on staying here next year when we come through to pick up our daughter from college. There was a pull out couch that was very sunken in. There's no way anyone would be able to sleep on it pulled out. But since our youngest is only 10 years old, he did fine just sleeping on the couch. :) The breakfast in the morning was a good selection too.

We stayed here just one night on our way home to Ohio from New Orleans. The room was large with a lounge area, complete with sofa, TV, desk, frig, microwave; then a separate area with two beds and another TV. Nice indoor pool. Lovely breakfast area. Very friendly staff. The manager (owner?) came into the breakfast area and greeted everyone, including his staff. Would certainly come back if we are ever in this area.

I have never been disappointed with a choice of hotel when using trip advisor but i have no idea how this is ranked so well. We just left and here is a quick run down: old and horrible sofa sleeper, pic of the room looks nothing like what we stayed in...maybe there are some renovated rooms? Stained bedding and mattress pads, including what looked like blood stains on the edge of the bed's mattress pads though thankfully there were no other signs of bed bugs, odor of urine coming from our ac/heat unit whenever it was running. Must have just been a bad day for this place and bad luck for us because we appear to be in the minority with this review (i have never posted a negative review but feel like if there are other large families like ours who are looking for last minute respite stops, maybe Mom/Dad would want to see this review). Alerted management to the mattress pad nastiness but we checked in at 12:30 am so unfortunately, we didnt feel like we had much choice in moving to either a new room or a new hotel with 3 sleepy kids. Hope you all have better luck!

The owner (Ronnie) is always very nice and he'll remember your name and treat you like royalty from the moment you walk through the front door. If you don't stay here when your in town, you're missing out on a GREAT ROOM and Experience.

I was very pleased with my stay at this hotel. Room was very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

My family and I reserved 3 rooms for the Talledega race weekend. We had reserved online in January two king size rooms and one double room. Upon arrival, the system had shown up as our double room being a king. When I told the desk employee this was incorrect, I pulled up my booking confirmation and she immediately blocked off the last double room so no one could book it. This is what I call service! They had cookies and water available to guests at the desk as well. The staff the entire weekend was so friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and spacious and the beds were comfortable. The hotel had a hot breakfast that was awesome!! I would definitely stay there again!!!

We arrived about 5:30 p.m., after a full day of driving/sight-seeing. As we signed in, we were told that happy hour was underway in the breakfast room. What a way to start your stay! They offered munchies (corn chips & salsa, chicken nuggets, etc.) along with a drink. We hastily stowed our gear and then gratefully relaxed before heading out to dinner. This very nice hotel is located in a sort of motel village outside of Birmingham. There are several eateries right in the village, including a Landry's Seafood house directly across from the Best Western. We elected to drive 2 exits down on the freeway to a sizable mall for dinner and some shopping. The room was quite large and L-shaped, something new to us. The desk with free wifi is in a corner so that one need not disturb a sleeping companion. There is a couch which can apparently be made up for additional sleeping quarters. There is a counter unit with small fridge, microwave, so that light repasts can be prepared. Everything was very clean and the towels were appropriately thick. The usual toiletries were provided. The rooms were quiet. Access from the parking lot was simple, once we were directed to the proper area. There is an indoor pool. Breakfast provided the usual fare, with ample space for various sized parties. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful. As we were leaving, I realized that I needed to take a pill. As the desk clerk printed out my receipt, I told him I'd need to return to the breakfast room to get a sip of water for my pill. Without missing a step, he pulled up a bottle of water and handed it to me. That's quick service! We enjoyed this hotel very much and would gladly return.

Rooms are good size with ample room to setup Multi-monitor workstation. Internet access/speed is priority #1 for me and this location has wired internet which is critical for me. The internet access was superb with no issue the entire time I was there. Breakfast was pretty good and they even offer a free happy hour, which is very rare. Location is great with several good places to eat as well as a Walmart just across the main road so very convenient. Excellent choice for anyone.

I was In town with my daughter and her bridesmaids for her wedding. The Manager went out of his way to help our group out even after checkout time, while getting ready for the wedding. Awesome group of people.

We stayed one night while in town for an event and would definitely stay here again. The location is quiet and safe with a variety of restaurants nearby. Our room was spacious,very clean, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. Wi-Fi was free and reliable. Breakfast was good and replenished frequently. Although the breakfast room was small and very crowded, the manager opened a conference room to use for additional seating which was appreciated.

The staff here are remarkably helpful. The breakfast is wonderful. Everything is clean, quiet. Good location, close to food places, shopping and interstate. We stay here every year. Has a very nice in door pool.

very nice hotel would recommend the staff was very friendly and accomedating the room was beatufui the TV didnt move so it was kind of difficult to really watch from the bed. The bed was actually not the comfortable but overall a good stay

Clean rooms, easy check in and check out. Has breakfast included which was useful. Serves all the needs that a business traveler can desire. Ample parking on site. Close to a few restaurants and within 10min of downtown Birmingham. Would consider staying here again.

When we looked for a hotel, our goal was to get a nice hot breakfast, indoor heated pool at an affordable price. That's why we chose here! The stay-room is just a super nice bonus with lots of room and comfort!

This hotel is the epitomy of well maintained and well run hotels. The construction and finishes are clearly kept current. The breakfast was above average for a hotel breakfast with good hot foods. The owner was an affable, sincere man who loved that he was able to work hard and succeed in America.

The Family suites offer pocket doors separating the sitting area from the beds - great if traveling with a little one in a travel bed. The room/bathroom were very clean. I chose this hotel initially because of the reviews of their indoor swimming pool. The reviews were True! Heated to 81 degrees during our stay - perfect for my toddler grandson. The Family suite option was invaluable for all : )

This was my 2nd time to stay with this hotel - we were in the area with 50 Jr. Beta students for the 2nd year in a row. Both times we have stayed at this hotel. The owner and his staff is very nice and very helpful - the property is located in a great area - felt very safe and close to everything. The landscaping was beautiful - the room was clean and roomy - one of the BEST breakfast I have ever had in a hotel that is complimentary. Would recommend this hotel to everyone business or pleasure - and I will be back when staying in the Birmingham area. Thank you Best Western !!

This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Not up to best western standards. The building is so old and gross. Signs of bugs everywhere. Place is falling apart. So disgusting. We chose this hotel because of the great tripadvisor reviews. It was a mistake. Please be warned. This is not worth 100 dollars. It is more in line with a fifty dollar hotel.

Everything was good including the hot tub in the room. Just not as classy as Marriott. Room clean, but decor was well out of date. The AC/Heat unit was an old wall unit that I have not seen in years. Kept bedroom cool, but loud and could not keep guest room cool. Yes I would stay again sometime, but if Marriott was available with hot tub too, I would definiately stay there before here. from a scale of 1 aweful to 10 perfect I would rate it around a 6-7.

we were in town to attend a bridal shower for a grandson and his fiancée. They are both students at Samford University. So the location of the motel was great. It was near to all the events that we were invited to for the shower and a recital. Also several family meals and outings

One of the cleanest rooms I have stayed in. Lots of restaurants in the area. Breakfast was very good, lots of options to choose from and it was free! Manager reception provided 2 cocktails and light snacks - friendly staff.

Having stayed at other best westerns in the U.S we thought we were finding a goldmine booking here, how wrong we were. Initial look in reception was ok, then following the mile long walk down an outdated hall to the elevators we arrived in our room. We were travelling as a party of three and when we got to the room we had one double bed. After a call to reception we were told there's a sofa bed and there are blankets in the drawer "make the bed yourself, we don't make up sofa beds, it's not part of our service". After a long day of travelling this was the last thing we needed but made the bed up anyway. As it was pulled out we found blood and urine stains on the mattress (thankfully there was a mattress protector on top of this which seemed clean enough). Also we had no idea how long those blankets had been in the drawer unused. They definitely weren't fresh. With every move made on the bed there was springs and bars sticking up everywhere, these sofa beds are way past their cell by date! Not a wink of sleep all night and now putting muscle relief gel on my back as a result. The room was also very grubby, we felt dirty throughout the stay and I for one was not risking walking around the room without shoes on at any time day or night. Breakfast was manic, a small little room not big enough to swing a cat with everyone crowded in. Staff were in no way over friendly. Also to note this hotel allows pets so we were met by a number of dogs (which I don't mind given I'm a dog lover) but I do mind sleeping in beds where I don't know if animals have been especially given the low level of cleanliness we experienced.

I had an awesome experience with the best western plus. The manager and associates love their job and deeply enjoy accommodating your needs and concerns. I had absolutely no problems with my room, I stayed for 4 nights and every morning after coming back for breakfast my room with cleaned to perfects. 10/10 would return.

I was extremely impressed with the entire stay at the Best Western PLUS Carlton Suites, Birmingham. As a single mom with two toddlers, making a trip from NC to TX, it was a good midway stop for us. We arrived to a nice welcoming and an introduction to a "Happy Hour" snack (wings, chips, dips and juices for us), that had been a very pleasant surprise. The three of us had alone time at the pool, which was the temperature of a luke warm bath, it was extra relaxing after a long drive. After a good nights sleep we enjoyed an AMAZING breakfast. We were all impressed with the variety and taste of everything. My boys had scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, "little cutie" oranges, and milk while I had a yogurt, cut up melons, sausage, and cranberry juice. If my boys were not such messy eaters we would have loved to have the biscuits and gravy or the waffles that we seen other people going back and getting seconds of. It was also nice to be greeted with a "good morning" from a man that may have been the owner or manager. He was also very friendly as was the other staff. The only issue I had found were some of the sharp edged tables in the hotel room. My guys are a bit too rough from low tables and night stands with sharp corners. But overall, it was ideal in every other way.

We got to our room and the tv worked but there was trouble with some of the channels so the manager upgraded us to another room. The Pool was a nice clean area.The suite was large, comfy and clean. The Happy Hour and Breakfast was up and beyond normal. The service and staff were very courteous. Would definitely stay here again. the only thing that kept this from being exceptional was the tv problem but they corrected that.

The room was excellent, the entire staff was extremely nice, friendly and helpful. The manager went out of his way to make me feel welcome. They have a nice breakfast, and a very nice snack array from 5-7 pm. There is plenty of parking, and a lot of places to eat within walking distance. It was the first time I had been to Birmingham. The staff at the hotel made it a very enjoyable experience.

Friendly check-in. Smooth process and helpful staff. They are pet friendly, which was a plus and the rooms were right for the price. My iron wasn't working so the front desk changed it out on the spot no problem.

This was my first stay at this hotel. It was an excellent choice! When we first arrived, we were welcomed warmly, and offered coffee or a bottle of water. The room was clean and modern. Lots of electrical plug ins for charging electronics. The wifi was good (no ethernet cable, wifi only) and the in-room fridge kept my juice nice & cold. The tv got more channels than anyone needs ;-) but I was impressed that the remote was in its own little "freshness bag." They clean the remotes between guests? Nice! Even the elevator was spotless. Rony Naik, the GM, was very accommodating and helpful. Some GMs hide in their office and you never see them - not Rony. He was visible and made sure the morning rush through the lobby/dining area moved smoothly. Hundreds of the best vocalists in Alabama descended upon Birmingham to sing at Samford University at the All-State Choral Festival. We stayed here because it's not far from Samford, but morning rush hour traffic in Birmingham is a beast, so it was nice to have breakfast (and coffee!!!!) ready & waiting for us in the morning so we could get out the door! Loved the breakfast buffet - you MUST have their biscuits. With jelly, with gravy, just plain, doesn't matter. They are the BEST! If you have one, you WILL go back for seconds. You have been warned! ;-) I'm happy to recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Birmingham. I would definitely stay here again. They understand hospitality. Good things: It's clean. Acceptable breakfast, good location, and great staff. Bad things: They don't have fully equipped kitchen. Pets friendly is a bit weird for this kind of hotel from my point of view.

No other hotel compares to this hotel! Personal greetings by name throughout my stay. Never any issues! The hotel staff is friendly, personable and is always out front making sure you are comfortable and happy with your stay! I NEVER stay anywhere else when I am in the Birmingham area!

we traveled for approx. one month through the southern states and with the exception of 2 hotels we stayed a t Best Western hotels. Our experience is that you get what you pay for- the hotels just listed as "Best Western" were simply "ok" and often times the bathrooms were dirty and staff unprofessional however the Best Western Plus hotels in New Orleans La, Atlanta Ga and Birmingham Ala were fabulous!! very clean, great breakfast and very professional staff esp. the gentleman in Birmingham and staff more than willing to extend a helping hand!! no regrets

You ever see a place where you feel would be GREAT because of the reviews? Me too. I stayed at this location over Valentine weekend. For the price, everything was... Ok. The location is convenient, and that's why I gave it a two star rating. I went to the restroom in the middle of the night and saw a roach. I good sized roach at that. (A complete turn OFF for Valentine's weekend). From that point on I was paranoid thinking... How many more are there? Did any get in my luggage? Is the kitchen where they serve free breakfast clean? Long story short, I called to complain. I was told to see the manager in the morning. Upon check out, I spoke to the manager. He apologized and went on about how they have pest control to come by each month... Blah, blah, then gave me $22.00 off of my two night stay which cost over $200. (greeeat) I thought. Needless to say, I will NEVER stay at this location again.

Ever been in one of those offices whose walls are covered with testimonials about how fortunate you are to be in such worthy and wonderful company; they aren't always convincing, like a car dealer showing you their picture with the Pope. They are sometimes referred to as the "I Love Me" walls, although not of course by the people who put them up. But that's what you encounter when you check into this Best Western Plus location in Birmingham, Alabama; the "Plus" obviously matters to them, and to you, since you are paying about a 20% premium over standard BW rates to stay there. They are also very (very) big on reminding you their Trip Advisor ratings (4.5, as framed on the front counter). It's kind of like a challenge match, right there, Challenge on. You are probably aware that Best Western is in the process of promoting its locations into "Plus" and even "Premier" categories to compete head-to-head with the so-called "medium-sub-luxury" range, whatever that means, of Marriott's Courtyards, so you know what that means. You can't beat this location: in a Birmingham office park, surrounded with upscale and very popular restaurants from a Landry's Seafood to Asians, Ethnics, Irish steakhouses, along with the best in that same category of hotels (several Marriotts, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, La Quinta Suites), the locals love it after dark and the Interstate Motorists obviously enjoy the range of selections and the overnight security. So how well is this self-promoting Best Western Plus doing against the competition? It seems to have its own fan base, perhaps because of its free weeknight happy hours, but to this reviewer's one-night visit, not well enough to deserve its own self-promotion. Its rooms have obviously undergone a budget facelift from a tired early "suites only" concept of the Carlson era, some 20 years ago, but it seems like its present management does little more than turn the lights on and run the credit cards. No Guest Directories are available in the rooms (or at the Front Desk), come-on, they're usually as relevant as local church services, but in this case they're a clue that no one at the front desk knows its own address: no recommendations for any of those local restaurants, or knowledge of which ones offer delivery or take-out service, and they furnish a request a mimeograph sheet (with wrong numbers) for those places; it's probably a good thing you're not here for a quick workout-- the TV isn't working and neither are any of the other machines that should, they are both difficult and malfunctioning, like a truck dumped them off from a Flex Warehouse Discount Sale--of course, these fitness rooms are every hotel manager's nightmare, guests get on them in an "inappropriate condition", in dress heels with kids who think they are playground material. The lone woman at the night desk isn't too concerned, however; she only offers to pass on the equipment failures to "the manager," wherever he isn't. Enough with the Small Complaints Department: but the TV in the room is anchored (no pivots) on a wall that doesn't face anything but another wall-- not the bed, not the sofa (remember this is still a suite) or the working desk. I'd like to be fair and say something nice about this place, like the towels are nice, but next trip I'll probably be staying at LaQunita, or the Garden Inn, or a Marriott, and leave the Happy Hour to the people who rate this Minus a Plus.

The property was wonderful. The staff and employees were excellent. The value was terrific. Overall, I highly recommend this property. They offer both a breakfast buffet and an evening snacks and drinks service. The drinks included beer, wine and some hard liquor - all included in the price of the room!
