« First Best Western experience »

Delighted with this find. The Valley is a really lovely hotel. Perfectly situated for a walk into and around Ironbridge. The hotel is quirky, homely and welcoming. The food was excellent and the restaurant is extremely popular with local residents as well as visitors. All staff were helpful and accommodating. Would definitely recommend to others

« Friendly, relaxing place to stay »

We stayed here three nights in a room in the annex. Although we are both able-bodied, we were given a room with disabled facilities, so possibly larger than others, with a shower and no bath and with an enormous and very comfortable bed. Shame about the pillows, which were loose, floppy and unsupportive, and spoilt a good night's sleep, giving me a very stiff neck. However, that was my only complaint. Everything else was fine. The room was clean, comfortable and well-equipped The old house was very attractive, especially the tile features on the stairs and in the corridor. Sadly, it was too wet to explore the grounds. We ate twice in the bar where the food was unfussy and of a high standard. Didn't try the restaurant in the evening but breakfast was excellent. The staff were friendly, polite and always smiling. Fascinating area - and this was a good location from which to explore. I would happily return.

    « My Mothers 60th Birthday Celebration »

Well what can I say.............. This time last week we were heading to Ironbridge to celebrate my mothers 60th Birthday. Firstly I would like to say I definitely chose the right hotel it was perfect in many ways. I would like to mention Roy who could not have done enough for me. Before arriving he was extremely helpful and obliging arranging flowers from the local florist and balloons to décor my mothers room he even chose the perfect room making sure they had beautiful scenery out looking the gardens. The other staff including his brother Lee was professional, pleasant and friendly. We had A la Carte meal for my mothers birthday meal and it was 100% including presentation, service and atmosphere they even allowed me to store our cake and present it as a surprise at the end of the meal. The rooms were clean comfortable and spacious. Breakfast cooked to order perfect including lovely waiter service very friendly. Ann the housekeeper was very friendly and kept our rooms tip top!! Lynne the receptionist was very accommodating overall 10/10. Thank you for making our celebration a success we will definitely return Stacey, Wendy, David and Christian.

    « Dissapointed this time »

Hhmm finding it difficult to give a balanced review this evening as I am lying in my bed listening to heavy thumping coming through the ceiling as I am trying to sleep. What makes it worse is the fact that my wife and I are not in the room that we booked last September on our last visit. Noting that there were some good deals on for the month of November my wife and I decided to book a room and dinner to celebrate my birthday. At the time of booking my wife asked if we could book a room overlooking the garden which was promised to us. This would be a first for us as we have never managed to get one before, so I was quite looking forwards to our stay. Well on arriving we were greeted courteously as always in this establishment and pointed to a room at the side of the hotel overlooking the car park. My wife and I were obviously disappointed at the time but decided to put the dissapointment to one side get ready and go for our meal in the hotel restaurant. Right now I am lying in my bed listening to that awful thumping...... Disappointed.com

    « Cosy welcoming stay »

We visited this hotel as a 2 night groupon deal and were very happy with our stay. Reception staff were very helpful and friendly, our room was warm and cosy with a very comfortable 4 poster bed. We went for some really nice walks around the valley as the man on reception gave us a free map. The only bad points about the stay were the shower was not very hot or powerful and the poached eggs we ordered at breakfast the first morning were almost raw - we would still give it 5 stars however!

« beautiful part of the country »

Stayed at The Valley Hotel for a short break of 3 nights. The room was clean, tidy and functional. The staff were very friendly. Unfortunately the bedding, ie quilts, pillows and the linens could do with replacing. Very clean, but uncomfortable. The first quilt covers we had were around 18" too short for the quilts!!! After complaining they were changed. The pillows and quilts were hard where they had been laundered too much. Such a shame but part of staying in a hotel is being able to have a good nights sleep. BUT, I did mention this to the receptionist so everything could of changed, I will not be going back though to find out!

« Good hotel in superb setting »

Just spent two nights here as my wife had business in the area. The building is a splendid old house with tasteful hotel annexes and the public areas are most impressive, with some extraordinary original tiling in one corridor. The gardens are exquisite and allow free access to parkland and the riverbank, from where it is a short walk into Ironbridge itself. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the breakfasts freshly cooked and the restaurant (reviewed separately) quite splendid. We stayed in a standard double room which was perfectly adequate - a cut above a Premier Inn but below four star standard. The bed was on the short side and, thanks to a faulty seal the shower managed to flood the bathroom floor each time it was used but otherwise there were no grumbles. If you want reasonable accommodation at a reasonable price, with the option of a superb restaurant, then the Valley Hotel fits the bill nicely.

    « Great Location »

An average experience, with a few niggles, room heating hadn't been set and it was only 16 degrees. Not enough hot water for a bath. Cooked Breakfast items not up to usual standard. Hotel set in superb grounds within walking distance of the Iron Bridge and also with a walk beside the River Severn.

    « Overnight stay »

This was a traditional hotel, but unlike other fairly dated hotels we have stayed in, the carpets were clean and the walls nicely painted. We felt a bit cold in our room and informed reception of this. Within five minutes we had a radiator and blankets delivered . We ate in the restaurant. Wow... the food was lovely, the best we have had in a long time. What made it really special was the service. Waitresses were discreetly gliding around and attending to your every need. The rest of the staff delivered an equally high level of service. Thank you. We will be back.

« Lovely hotel, with great friendly staff, in a beautiful setting. »

My single room was lovely, and the bed was really comfortable. The room was cleaned immaculately, and the room service was to a high standard. It had an ensuite with a great shower over the bath. I would highly recommend this hotel and the restaurant.

« Rude Staff and management even worse »

Without going into details it's too long. Staff were rude and useless. Management didn't car about his customers. The only decent thing there was breakfast but you had to queue like a school dinner for a hot breakfast. They don't seem to trust you serving yourself on the buffet

    « Very friendly hotel »

Situated in a lovely area, beautiful walks along the river, plenty of cafes and pubs just a short walk away. A few small museum and shops near hotel. Would definitely recommend this hotel for a short break.

« Lovely staff and room »

Arriving late at the property to check in, I was exhausted from a long drive. The team who greeted me were absolutely lovely and really took the initiative to help me make my evening the best it could be. Even though it was past 9pm, they were able to ask the chef to make me a last minute supper and what a delicious and hearty meal it was too. As for the room, it was a single room, but super comfortable. With a lovely dressing table, decent bathroom with nice bath supplies. As for the bed, it was springy and soft, just the way I like it. There was a wall mounted TV which had a mind of its own, switching on, but I suspect this was taking signal from another room next door. There's great parking on the property, but you have to be a guest to park there. As for the surroundings, towards the bottom of the garden is a public park and pathway where you can walk along the River Severn. Then it's a 10 minute walk to the Ironbridge from there. I would not hesitate to recommend this place for a visit.

    « Ahocking »

All started well when we attended the days activity with work. Lunch time walk was great as we experienced the Ironbridge bridge. However it came to the evenings entertainment where we left for D'arcy's. Great restaurant and greatly welcomed and hospitable which is something to be said about this hotel. We returned from our meal at about 11pm. We were together as a group no more than 7, 6 at most and we were enjoying a work night out. However we were told to keep it down. Which we did! But then we were threatened of closure of bar shortly after, then insulted by apparently being disruptive to others earlier on in the day. Can I just say there was a group of 4 playing cards the whole we were enjoying a few drinks and even they said have a great night see you later. Enjoy! Shame the staff can't accommodate he same attitude. Bar staff were rude, and we felt like we were an inconvenience. Also when you ring the bell 7+ times don't expect a response. Go hunting for a bar staff member to pull you drinks. We should have served ourselves. It would have save a fortune drinks. All in all come here if you don't want to speak. Management and staff are rude and there is no way as a business or leisurely will I return to this hotel. Disgusting management.

    « Lovely hotel »

We stayed here for 3 nights at October half term, one adult and 2 children, including a small baby. The hotel is a pleasant 10 min stroll along the river (past co-op and a great little playground) to Ironbridge. The grounds are lovely, with direct access to Dale End park. All the Ironbridge Gorge Museums are less than 10 mins drive away, most about 5. There was plenty of parking at the hotel during our stay despite several weddings, although there was only 1 disabled space. On arrival, staff were friendly and welcoming. We were told our room was on the second floor in the old building... where there was no lift. I was a bit surprised since the booking form clearly stated that our party was 1 adult, a small baby and an older child. We'd clearly have baby-related stuff (cot, pram, more luggage than a couple might bring) so a room on the ground floor or in the new part with the lift might have been more sensible. However, a member of staff helped us take our things up to the room so it wasn't a massive issue, just inconvenient. The room was lovely - clean, large, bright, airy although VERY cold at night - we had to ask for an extra blanket the second night and another for the following night, even though we used the electric heater that was supplied in addition to the central heating (which was off over night). The beds were rock hard, like sleeping on a wooden bench, although somehow we slept relatively well. The bathroom was lovely & the bath so huge that my feet didn't reach the end. Dinner in the restaurant was amazing & highly recommended. Breakfast less impressive but perfectly ok and plenty of it. Again, staff were friendly and efficient. Pros: Location Cleanliness Staff Restaurant Parking Views Bathroom Cons: Uncomfortable bed Very cold at night No lift in old house

    « Very enjoyable stay »

We stayed here in October as members of a party of 16, enjoying a re-union. Our group was given a separate dining room for the evening meal and breakfast and the food and service was excellent. We are not usually 'chain' hotel people but would certainly recommend this one for its setting, personal service and general ambience. We had a very pleasant room at the rear of the hotel, which is in a lovely setting, overlooking the river. Would certainly recommend.

    « Wonderful staff »

I stayed at the Valley Hotel for five nights in October. The first four nights in a single room as part of a walking group and on the fifth night my partner came to join me so I booked an executive double. I have stayed in many hotels for work and pleasure, but I have to say that the staff at the Valley are the most genuinely friendly and helpful that I have encountered anywhere. On checking in I was given a small double rather than a single (room 34). This seemed promising, but the room was a disappointment. It was in the Mews wing of the hotel. The room was only just big enough for the double bed and only had a small window. The window blind was down when I entered the room and after struggling to open it I realised that the cords weren't connected to the blind - it had obviously been this way for some time. Later in the evening some people checked in to the room above and the room next door. The noise was unbearable: loud footsteps and wardrobe doors banging. I don't think it was the people who were especially noisy but the paper thin walls and ceiling. To be fair things quietened down after that and I heard no more noise that night or the following morning. The room would have been OK for one night but as I was staying for four nights I decided the following morning to ask for a different room. Expecting an argument with the reception staff I was pleasantly surprised. The lady on reception (Lynne I think) couldn't have been more helpful. She immediately agreed to give me a different room but explained the the hotel was very full. She spent many minuted pouring over the computer screen to work out what rooms were available and gave me a choice of three. I opted for room 12 which was a standard double It was a very pleasant room and I was very comfortable there for the next three nights. On the morning I was due to change to the Executive room it was Lynne again on reception and she said I could stay in the room I was already in if I wanted. I asked if the executive room was better and after checking what executive rooms were available she said I should definitely change rooms as I could have the room (room 12) with the four poster bed overlooking the gardens. This was a wonderful room. On both occasions I changed rooms the staff moved my luggage to the new room. I ate in the restaurant every night as part of the walking group and with partner. The food was excellent and the restaurant staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Breakfast was also excellent. By the time I checked out it had become a standing joke with Lynne about how many rooms I had stayed in, but she never once displayed any irritation or anything other than a desire to see that I got a comfortable stay. She also managed the complexity of my bill which was partly paid on a special rate for the walking group and partly at normal rates. The location of the hotel is excellent. It has beautiful gardens that back onto the river. Five minutes walk along the river bank takes you right into the centre of Ironbridge. A few minutes drive takes you to the historical sights, the starting point for lots of walks and many excellent pubs. Like many english hotels it has been converted from a large house and extended over the years. The result is a range of rooms that vary from the wonderful to at least one had have the feel of converted broom cupboard. It would be good if Best Western reviewed some of the smaller rooms and made sure that they met the standards of the rest of the hotel. However I can't fault the friendly, helpful and can-do attitude of the staff and the customer service standards that have been established at the hotel.

« Beautiful views but ugly prices »

My husband and I stayed here beginning of August. I had high hopes for this hotel. Especially with it being situated in Ironbridge. To cut a long story short the establishment needs so much tlc. It is so dated. Not only that the prices are extortionate considering the size of the rooms. We had a double room. In the past at other hotels when paying for a double room we have always been welcomed with two of everything (water, wine, mints, showergel etc). Not there. Just the one bottle of water. When bringing this to the attention of the receptionist he advised that it is their policy to only provide the one. I said it is a double room for two! He argued a little but in the end arranged for another one to be put in the bedroom. Needless to say although the hotel needs renovating, the views are beautiful. I think the hotel need to rethink their prices to reflect the accommodation!

    « Good stay »

Good hotel in a lovely location by the river. The room was comfortable but the one disadvantage is that there is not a lift so if booking make sure that you ask for a ground floor room if stairs are a problem. Enjoyed the food.

    « Wonderful hotel »

I stayed here with my elderly mother. I have Asperger's Syndrome and the staff were so kind and helpful. The food was to die for and the whole place had an aura of professionalism and smartness. The hotel was also quiet without being eerie, and that was also good to see. I would recommend this hotel and will be returning. Excellent!!

« Lovely, warm and welcoming »

Good value for money . The place is lovely , clean , warm and welcoming . Standard rooms very clean . The bed not the most comfortable for sensitive backs but for one night fit the bill ... dinner served in the restaurant was very nice and breakfast was simple , tasty and lovely ??

    « Nice... »

Nice little hotel, very quiet and peaceful, the room was gorgeous! Could have done with more power in the shower but no big deal! The bed was very comfy, but could have done with being a bit bigger. The hotel staff were polite, had a very warm welcome. Only main downside was the breakfast...the eggs tasted a bit funny! But the fruit was gorgeous! Would stay again!

    « Fantastic Wedding Day »

My partner and I chose to have our wedding ceremony, reception and evening reception at The Valley Hotel in Ironbridge on the 24th September 2016. From the very first introductory visit to the morning after the wedding the hotel and staff were first rate, efficient and friendly. The planning service was second to none, a special thanks to Jess, who was unbelievably brilliant. Lisa was great too in the early stages. The hotel setting is beautiful and the bar, restaurant and terrace etc were lovely. It felt like a really expensive wedding venue but it was in fact very reasonable for what we had. The wedding breakfast food was perfectly cooked and delicious, as was the buffet in the evening. The room we were given as the wedding suite was large, clean and perfect. All in all a fantastic wedding day made even better by the hotel and it's brilliant staff. Thank you! From Andy & Susanna Fernandes Berey.

    « 2 night stay »

I have just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel. When I arrived, I was directed to the wrong floor of the hotel for my room, but apart from that check-in was very quick. The big issue with this hotel is lack of sound proofing. I was reliant on other guests going to bed before I could get some sleep myself, which did not happen until gone 11pm on both nights, with fellow guests then waking up from 3am onwards, I was lucky if I got more than 4 hours sleep per night. The onsite restaurant is very good. I would use this hotel again, but only once the sound proofing was significantly improved.

    « Fantastic Wedding Venue »

We recently attended a friends wedding here in July. The services are all held under a pagoda in a lovely secluded garden at the rear of the building overlooking the park and river. Don't let the outside of the hotel deceive you we were amazed at how big it was inside and really nicely decorated. The hotel sections are designed like a Victorian street which fits well with the surrounding area. There are several bars within the venue and the main events room had a reasonably sized dance floor. Our son is in a wheelchair and we had no issues at all getting him in or around the hotel. All the staff were very friendly and only too happy to help, with everything organised and kept on track superbly. We will be surely popping along again to give the restaurant a try as the catered food was delicious.

Would highly recommend this hotel and give it 10 out of 10.

« Game Fair Weekend Break »

Back to the friendly Valley Hotel, unfortunately our usual room was already booked and we stayed in a double room in the far side of the hotel these rooms are a lot smaller with thin walls say no more. On the brighter side the staff were very friendly and accommodating the food was excellent and as we had an early start bacon sandwiches for breakfast were very welcome so a big thank you to Sue for liaising with the kitchen. Hope to be back next year foe our yearly visit.

    « Iron Bridge - Hotel »

The Best Western Valley Hotel. Stayed here a few weeks ago. Excellent. Rooms appear to differ quite a bit so probably worth asking before booking. Rooms in the original part of the house are the best rooms.

    « Location, Location, Location »

I tried several hotels in the vicinity of Telford and it was a shame that I only discovered this place on my last night! I would usually avoid Best Western hotels am afraid but on this occasion the location wins out. It is set in beautiful parklands in the equally beautiful town of Ironbridge (only a few miles from Telford). The Ironbrige Gorge is riddled with industrial archeology of the Industrial Revolution era and is also naturally stunning. The staff at the hotel were great and the standard of room, fittings etc was OK. I didn't eat an evening meal at the hotel but he breakfast was fine. You get a better standard of room and facilities in central Telford but I would choose this if I stayed again in the area for its location. There are also lots of attractive pubs and restaurants within walking distance.

Relaxing, refreshing and reinvigorating! Food was fine dining and interesting. Beautiful setting and such easy access to the museums and attractions of Ironbridge. would recommend to family and friends.

    « Picturesque accommodation »

We were visiting the Ironbridge area for only one day. Knowing what we know now, we should have made it two or even three days as there is so much to see. The hotel is well placed, being only a short walk to the nearest bus-stop for the shuttle bus that can take you to all the sights (which are a bit spread-out). From memory, there is a day pass for the bus trips. The hotel is a fairly old building of two-three stories, without a lift. The stairs are reasonably steep. Our room was no. 27 (from memory) and overlooked a garden area. It was a little bit tired and without air-conditioning which meant having the windows open at night. This would have been fine except that there had been a wedding at the hotel during the day and, as usually happens at such events, people used the opportunity to catch up on the news. With the garden area being immediately below our open window, we were woken several times during the night by people talking very loudly. I put up with it until 1.00 a.m., but when I was woken again at 2.00 a.m. by two fellows talking, I spoke to them and asked them to consider that some people were trying to sleep. They apologised and went inside and I closed the window, but the conversation soon started up again - this time from a group of women. Despite a polite request from me, this group continued to talk until 4.00 a.m. All the above was a pity as everything else about the hotel fine. The buffet breakfast was very good, the location excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. Apparently, however, the hotel has a night porter or general factotum who could have been rung and who would have sorted out the problem. It is a pity that we were not made aware of this when we first registered, but the staff were fairly busy at the time.

« Enjoyable week-long reunion of old friends »

Always difficult to know where to stay when organising for a group of ten (aging) friends, but this proved to be a justly popular choice. The bedrooms were clean and comfortable, the dining room 'cosy' but not cramped and all the food, with almost no exceptions was excellently prepared (but perhaps 'over-presented!') and met the varying needs of the group. There was always room in one of the lounges for the group to socialise together without feeling that we were disturbing other guests and the staff were all as friendly and as helpful as they could be without being over-attentive.

    3
    « Good location »

Stayed here for 3 nights for a holiday as we had always wanted to visit Ironbridge and the area. The hotel is in a good location, it backs on to the river severn so you can go for nice walks. We walked to the Ironworks museum (which is brilliant) in 15 minutes. Only negatives were that I was disappointed that we had a view of the car park and not the gardens and in the bathroom, the water was too hot, the shaving light didn't work and I couldn't work out how to use the shower. Lovely good breakfast and nice breakfast staff.

    4
« Very impressed with reception we received »

I stayed here 8 years ago with a group. When I phoned to make reservations they treated me as a loyal customer, very nice touch. Friendly staff. Beautiful Coalbrook tiles in corridors and on wall of the stairway. Pleasant dining room. Very close to the famous Iron bridge, the first iron bridge in the world.

    2
« Indoor room with no external window »

My rating is based on the room (25) I had. This room is an indoor room with no external windows. There was two windows with opaque glass onto the corridor. The room itself was also a bit tired and not the cleanest. It could do with redecorating. There was no soap in the bathroom and the grout round the bath was split. Other rooms may be better so make sure you ask for a room with natural light The restaurant was better. I had a good well prepared and presented starter. The fish and chips main course was as good. The fish still had the skin on and the "triple fried chips" were more like deep fried roast potatoes, way too thick.

« Wedding and Overnight stay »

Stayed 1 night as part of wedding. Staff are very friendly and always helpful, not a grumble from anyone, even when due to the British weather an outside wedding became an inside wedding with 5 minutes to ceremony. The lady ?wedding organiser' worked tirelessly all day to make it a special day for everyone. Hotel is a bit quirky in design due to many extensions over the years but we loved it. They put all us wedding families together in rooms over the disco room so non wedding guests were not disturbed. Personally I wish wedding disco's were not quite as loud as everyone wants to talk at a wedding and that got impossible by the end of the evening. The rooms were large and well equipped having everything that we wanted. Our room didn't have air con but there was a large fan inside the wardrobe had we have need it. Our son had a single room which was lovely, it was accessed from ?under the stairs? so we joked he was Harry Potter all weekend. For breakfast along with a basic but adequate continental selection they had a selection of freshly cooked items, but if you wanted something else they were able to cook what ever you wanted freshly in 5 mins e.g. my mom had scrambled egg. Hotel is ideally situated for Ironbridge attractions. We walked along the river that can be accessed from the hotel back. I would recommend for tourists and as a wedding location.

« We can never fault this hotel. »

This is a lovely hotel in a quiet setting. There is plenty of free parking and nice gardens with easy access to a park and the River Severn. The town centre and the famous iron bridge is within walkable distance, on the level. The staff have never failed to give excellent service and the atmosphere is happy and friendly. The food is excellent and the menu has something to suit all tastes. Very good value for the price. We have never had a meal that we haven't enjoyed. We can't fault this hotel and will keep going back.

    « Excellent, as always! »

This was my our 3rd visit to this excellent hotel, twice as a couple and once as part of a large group. All the staff are a credit to the owners: attentive, polite and courteous. Nothing is too much trouble. The food was, as always, wonderful. Lovely location, close to all the attractions in the area. We will be returning.

    « Vegetarian »

We arrived at the hotel as a large party, all having pre booked our meals. On entering the restaurant, we had the function room as there was quite a few of us, all seated and expecting a delicious dinner. Now, I'm not a vegetarian but I enjoy vegetarian food and I had chosen the mushroom and spinach risotto, my friend who is a vegetarian had ordered the mushroom and tarragon soup for starters followed by the risotto the same as me. Her soup arrived and was completely inedible, it would seem the chef doesn't taste the food before it goes out as it was so salty it would've been worthy of the dead sea. When we told the waitress she said that they had served a few that evening and no one else had complained. We then are served the risotto, quite clearly it had been made with the same stock as the soup, completely inedible. The stock has clearly been made from vegi bullion made up from a powder and they had over done the measurements. How a trained chef had managed this I don't know, in my experience you are taught to taste everything... This clearly isn't the case. The waiting staff although beautiful, had far to long hair that was tied up in a ponytail and hung all in the vegetables when they were serving them. Unexceptable. I did point this out and move the hair of the waitress but the next night nothing had changed. I had ordered goats cheese and leek tart with a fondant potato for my meal the next night, this came out without the fondant potato. I did ask for it and the waitress then arrived with a potato 10 mins later that clearly wasn't a fondant. Now my friend who is a vegetarian tells me that this is standard in restaurants and is what she's used too, I on the other hand am completely appalled by this, why should a vegetarian be served such sub standard food! Outrageous. Restaurant need to seriously change their views on vegetarian food. That saying the hotel itself was lovely and the staff were very friendly and attentive. The beds on the other hand are incredibly hard.

    « Wonderful Wedding »

We had our wedding on 28th July 2016 and to say it was amazing is an understatement. From our very first showround we felt confident that the hotel could run our day perfectly and they did exactly that. Everything about our day was just brilliant. The service was efficient and the staff very friendly and helpful, the food absolutely amazing, the bedrooms clean and comfortable (the four poster room unbelievable!) and the grounds stunning!! The hotel is close to the bridge so we were able to drive down there to have some photos taken, but if you wanted to stay at the hotel for photos the backdrop of the gorge is just gorgeous. All in all we had the best day and would recommend the hotel to anyone! Thank you!

« My wedding was amazing »

I had my wedding here on 2nd September . From the initial booking to the end of the wedding all the staff were wonderful and did everything they could to answer any questions I had. The grounds are stunning and its close to the bridge where we were also able to go for photos. The rooms are lovely and clean and the food is great. I would definitely recommend this hotel for just an overnight stay if you want to visit Ironbridge and also for your wedding!

« Great location and excellent food »

A really lovely hotel to stay in. All the staff, without exception, were very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent - the best bar meals we've ever had in a Best Western (and have been to quite a few!). All public areas and bedroom were spotlessly clean. The gardens lead directly down to a huge park next to the river, so perfect location and within walking distance of all the attractions of Ironbridge gorge. We'll be back :)

    « Lovely Hotel »

Returned again to this hotel and all was just as good, if not better. We had a large room, as we visited with our Grandson. The hotel grounds were perfect for him with the garden steps leading directly into a lovely park. The Staff were brilliant. Special mention for Lynne on reception and the twins Lee and Roy (or Leeroy if confused) Our Grandson had a problem with his sandals rubbing and the Housekeeper spotted this and put a plaster on for him. Now that is going the extra mile, thank you. We shall definitely return.

« Friendly service, clean and comfortable accomodation »

We had a very pleasant stay in room 9, which benefited from a very comfortable queen size bed (two singles zipped together). The room was clean and well presented, and had plenty of wardrobe/drawer space, a dressing table/desk and plenty of seating, including a window seat. We liked the ironing facility, whereby you collect iron and ironing board from an ironing station near the room, use the iron as needed and return to the station for other patrons to use - it meant we could refresh our clothes as needed without taking up space in the room when it wasn't. Breakfast had a good selection, including cereal, fruit, yoghurt, juices, pastries and traditional full English, plus options such as porridge, and meat/cheese platters by request. The toast, tea and coffee were plentiful. Service throughout our stay was friendly and helpful, and certain members of staff whose names I sadly did not write down were exemplary in their service. We ate at the restaurant on the first night and enjoyed it, this is reviewed separately. We also found that the bar carried a good selection including local draught ales, and was reasonably priced.

    « Restful stop-over. »

This beautiful hotel has such a peaceful atmosphere. We stayed over to break our journey travelling from south to the north. We shall certainly be returning for a longer stay. The views from our bedroom were overlooking the gardens which led you to the river at the bottom. The hotel furnishings and décor were tasteful and very clean throughout .The bed was large and very comfy. We had a good nights sleep. The breakfast was excellent with a good choice of food.

« Excellent Service, character hotel »

From the friendly greeting to the very helpful staff throughout this hotel, this ranks as one of the best 3 star rated hotels I have visited, The room was clean and well maintained, I was in room 1 and there is a bit of an odd layout as you have 2 steps up from the inner hall to the bedroom, but this added to the character. Breakfast choice was good and the staff helpful and obliging. The bed was very comfortable and I slept better than I do in most hotels. The Restaurant was also very good and is reviewed separately.

« Great location. Remembered for the negatives »

Great location, nice hotel but small things let this hotel down. Rooms are good size,no air conditioning. The towels supplied in bathroom are ridiculously small. Breakfast is only served until 9am, bar meals are reasonably priced, but, fish & chips were awful. The batter was thick & hard, didn't eat it & left it on plate. When waiter came to collect plates he asked if meals were ok. We told him batter was awful & banged a piece of batter on plate to explain problem. He agreed, nodded, but never came back to us. Full meal price was on our bill next morning. Wish we had not attempted to eat the meal & created a big fuss, but that's not our style. Won't be going back.

    « Fantastic Staff »

Fantastic hotel in a great location, the grounds around it are amazing and very peaceful. Special thanks goes to Roy on reception, he is a credit to his profession - always very helpful and polite - cant do enough for you. Seems to always be working too! Roy even went the extra mile and helped to find my lost mobile phone after my check out.

« Amazing hotel filled with hard workers »

Can not mark this hotel any less than 5 out of 5! A stunning venue for a stunning wedding. Although we didn't stay over in the rooms so can not comment on the hotel rooms I can comment on how fabulous the entire day was. Have several special mentions for those of the staff who I noticed made the day amazing and were there constantly making sure the day ran smoothly which I'll get to later. First of all if you're wanting a beautiful outside wedding here is the place, the terrace towards the back of the hotel is the perfect place with a lovely view just down towards the river bank. The wait between the ceremony and the meal was a tad long however staff were on hand providing drinks, and different types of canopies which were delicious so made it not seem quite as long which takes me to the food! Absolutely amazing! The chef at the Valley Hotel is outstanding, every single meal we had was incredible. Well done chef! Staff who provided us with our meals and cleared them away were also well trained and polite young waiters, whoever is in charge of training! Well done to you, each and every one of them is fantastic and a credit to your hotel! Many people have a bad outlook on young people however these young waiters and waitresses truly are some of the friendliest and hard working staff I've come across in a long time. After our meal there were several pictures taken and then a polite young lady I think her name was Jess invited us from the bar area to a large function room at the top of the hotel. The room was beautifully set up and a dj was in the corner set up. A buffet was then served by a new set of waitresses and a couple recognisable faces from the afternoon, surprisingly the staff managed to keep the lines manageable considering the way in which they were serving looked extremely tricky so again props to the trainer! The food again was delicious even for just a small buffet and staff were again on hand to swiftly clear away the leftovers which we had. Finally we were left to just enjoy the rest of the evening, which we did!, whilst occasionally seeing the odd staff member making an appearance to check if we were still OK and the room was still tidy. So back to my special mentions, the first is to the lovely Jess that I mentioned earlier who seemed to be running the wedding, (perhaps the wedding manager?), she was a star! She had all of her staff in the right place at the right time and so the wedding went completely perfectly! Next is to a young waitress who forgive me if I get it wrong but I know it was an L, Im sure it was Louise? I'm sure she knows who she is if she sees, she was there from the beginning it seemed and worked throughout tirelessly, very pleasant young lady who had a delightful conversation with me when I approached her. Whilst serving us was she was very friendly and made sure we had everything. Lastly there was another girl however I didn't catch her name as she was only there for the buffet and then disappeared unlike the others who I had the honour of speaking to but I would still like to mention her. If I remember she was a brunette and rather petite? Fabulous! She was also extremely friendly and was well trained alike the others with customers. When anything ran out she was extremely efficient at making sure it was restocked which helped the buffet run smoothly. They were all just as good as each other and the team work shown was second to none, you can tell with this group of staff that they are genuinely lovely and want their customers to have the best day possible at their hotel. Overall, this hotel is fantastic and I can not recommend it enough! There were other staff working that day however I've only mentioned the few I saw but I'm sure the others were just as amazing! The venue is spectacular and beautiful. Will definitely be coming back, even if it's just to try out some more of their amazing food down in the restaurant! Can't wait. Keep up the incredible work Valley team!

first room (room 2) had extractor fan going, room hot & stuffy. outside extractor still going at 10.30 pm! got another room, perfect room, but no soundproofing at all. both nights had a 'snorer' in next room. could hear them walking across their floor (very loud). I failed to get much sleep.

« Reasonable hotel for a stopover in Ironbridge »

We stayed at the Valley Hotel on a Sunday night prior to visiting the Ironbridge attractions the following day. Finding the hotel was pretty easy and there was plenty of free parking which was good. It was a short 5-10 minute walk into the centre of Ironbridge either following the road or more pleasantly walking along the riverbank. Check-in was efficient & friendly, as was check-out. Our room was on the first floor and was of a good size but with no view, just adjacent roofing. It was also stiflingly hot and with no air-conditioning the single opening window was always going to struggle to render the room reasonably habitable. Tea & coffee was available (although the UHT sachets were a devil to open) and the free wi-fi worked well which was good. In general the room and en-suite was clean and well presented but we discovered a problem with the bed linen late that night which was not good and automatically docks a point off any subsequent review. The other problem was the sound-proofing i.e. there was none and so we could hear the Olympics on next door's TV until midnight and fellow guests moving around in the morning. Breakfast, however, was very good, with a good choice of buffet items and an excellent hot breakfast cooked to order. The service was also first-rate, I'm pleased to say. In summary, since a hotel's primary job is to provide a good night's sleep when away from home, I can't say that The Vally Hotel met expectations for the reasons given above. We'd probably not return on our next visit to the area. However, the hotel's location is good, the staff were friendly and the price was not exorbitant so - especially in the cooler months - it would probably be OK.

    « Lovely hotel. »

Had a lovely stay here for two nights. Rooms clean and comfortable. Restaurant is amazing, the food was excellent. Lee the head waiter couldn't do enough for us, he is a real asset to the hotel. All the staff are friendly. The gardens are really nice and the adjoining parkland is a very pleasant place for a walk.

« Great Location, Friendly Staff »

We stayed here over a long weekend for a family gathering. The hotel is beautifully located overlooking a riverside park with a pleasant walk into Ironbridge of about 10 minutes. There is a pleasant terrace and the Chez Maw restaurant for breakfast and dinner. The WiFi is free and fast. We had booked 4 rooms quite late and were located together in the old part of the hotel as there were weddings on the first 2 nights. Unfortunately it was one of the warmest weekends of the year and the rooms were uncomfortably hot due to the lack of air conditioning. The staff kindly moved us to the newer rooms for our third night, these were well appointed with full air conditioning. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly and made us feel very welcome. The presence of weddings meant that the terrace was unavailable at certain times which was an inconvenience. We thought the breakfast prices were rather high (especially for children), having said that we maybe should have booked with inclusive breakfast. There are however a number of excellent breakfast places within a 15min walk. We had one dinner and found the food was good - if a little expensive.

« So pleasant and handy »

We stayed for two nights on a return visit to Ironbridge with our two 14 year old grandchildren. On a previous visit we had stayed in the Madeley area and found this was much better as we were able to walk to the Ironbridge and shops. The hotel has a large carpark so visits to museums were made in the knowledge that we could park on return - parking near the bridge is extremely difficult. High marks for the staff and rooms. We ate breakfast each day and dinner one evening and the food was very good. On the second day the breakfast was "served self service" which while not so good as the service on the first day when a choice was made and brought but it speeded up the process as there were many guests. The hotel stands near the river and is surrounded by trees which makes for a pleasant outlook

My father in law stayed here on his own, the young man on reception provided a service which was very responsive to his needs. He was very polite, efficient and thoughtful. The tiles on the main stair case are beautiful.

    « A very traditional english hotel »

Having never visited Ironbridge and it's famous gorge, we booked this hotel on Best Westerns Spring promotion - 2 nights bed, breakfast and evening meal at a special rate. The hotel is located just to the west of the centre of Ironbridge and has a large free car park. We left the car here and walked to explore the area with its many museums. The hotel stands just above the gorge and river with direct access via a footpath from the bottom of the hotel gardens. Our room was a reasonable size and would have looked over the gorge if it was not for trees blocking the view. Both the breakfast and evening meal were good and there was a small bar which looked out onto the garden - with outside seating and tables for when the rain stopped! We have a one year pass to the museums, so need to make another visit to Ironbridge. Will probably choose this hotel again.

« Lovely visit with exceptions »

I visited the hotel as part of a wedding party earlier in the month, which was a lovely experience. The staff who provided the service were very pleasant and helpful at all times, there was one blonde waitress however, who it was obvious was just a waitress and not a manager, who seemed to be extremely bossy towards other staff members which made us feel very uncomfortable at times for the other staff. However all other staff were very friendly and the hotel was beautifully set out for the wedding. Had a fantastic day. Would've given 5 stars but the waitress made us feel uncomfortable on a number of occasions so would recommend the hotel on a day which she is off.

« Pleasant Two Night Stay »

We stayed here for two nights to visit the Ironbridge Gorge and Museums. The hotel is situated about a 10 minute walk from the Ironbridge and is surrounded by gardens which extended down to the river. The staff were very friendly, helpful and cheerful. Breakfast was excellent, buffet style but served to you at the counter. We did not dine in the restaurant in the evenings preferring to walk to the local pubs where some excellent food could be found. The room itself was a small double room at the back of the hotel which was warm, comfortable and clean with all the accessories and information you need.

    « What a luvly hotel ! »

My wy wife and I stayed here for a Saturday overnight stay whilst we visited Ironbridge Gorge, The Victorian Village and most of the other local attractions, We had a very enjoyable weekend. This hotel is ideally located and is set in attractive grounds to the front and has a very large carpark. The staff at the hotel are very friendly, helpful and professional. A very pleasant clean hotel which is furnished with modern and comfortable furnishings. A belter of a breakfast... plenty of choice all tasty and freshly cooked..delicious. We are definitely staying again in the near future.

    « Well, it's a Best Western »

I have to admit to certain feelings of disappointment with this hotel. Given the reviews and the photos, I was expecting a Manor House hotel that had been purchased by Best Western. In reality, this is more like a Manor House with a Best Western built into the back of it. I suppose that rooms near the front of the building (which is beautiful and contains much of the original tile work that was a specialty of the region during the Industrial Era) are different and maybe have some of the building's original character. But the section of the hotel we occupied was exactly like any Best Western in Middle America. It was clean and reasonably comfortable, but the cheap plastic hotel plants, drab carpet and 1970s decor felt violently out of sync with the building and its surroundings. I can't even recommend this as a budget option, as we paid 105 pounds. We paid less per night for a nice B&B in the Cotswolds.

    3
    « Third night out. »

We stayed here so that we could spend as little time travelling as possible from Ludlow and visit the Ironbridge sites. Reception was weird - the booking wasn't quite what had been made. Even when corrected, it still wasn't quite right! Room was nice and quiet but a bit on the warm side. It wasn't easily accessible as there was no lift and, although up only one flight of stairs, it was fiddly through the fire doors. Lovely bar and sitting outside in the garden with a nightcap proved really relaxing.

    « Leisure break »

Lovely hotel in perfect location for visiting iron bridge attractions. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was excellent, over looking rear of hotel. Food nice although breakfast did get busy. Bar quiet most evenings we were there but nice for a drink after dinner.

    « Service to a tee! »

This is the second time I have stayed here and I must say I was looking forward to coming back. The first time I was here the service and food was excellent so I was keen to see if it was a one off or was it going to be as good as the first. It's 100% a yes!

    « Delightful stay »

My husband and I have just returned from a most delightful 3 day leisure break- dinner, bed and breakfast with admission to the Ironbridge museums included - a brilliant deal. The hotel is set in glorious woodland and the garden leads down to the river where it's a lovely stroll into the town through a flower filled park. The rooms are well appointed and spotlessly clean and supplied with an electric fan, which we did need and there is a thermostat in the room to regulate your own heating during the winter months. There is also a lift to the first floor to accommodate a wheelchair and passengers. The hotel restaurant, Chez Maw, is truly to be recommended and served the most delicious food. We ordered something different each evening and without exception every course was a delight. Whilst enjoying pre dinner drinks we were served gaufrette potatoes or olives which was a very nice touch. Breakfast is buffet style with a waiter serving the hot food and on a separate table there were cereals, yogurts, juices, fresh fruit, pastries etc, a good selection of everything. I would like to make a special mention regarding the staff - they were all so pleasant, helpful, attentive and very well trained. Thank you all for a lovely stay.

« Great Location and surrounds »

Stayed just for one night. The gardens were excellent, great to sit out having a relaxing drink. And just a few steps away you have the river Severn and some very peaceful walks. The staff are generally very friendly. I will review the restaurant separately, but just to note the staff very young and obviously inexperienced, but very pleasant and efficient. The room was a little cramped and the bathroom, unusually, up some stair (within the room), not so easy at night if you don't want to wake your partner. And the shower was not to my liking - needle like jets. Breakfast was pretty average, and only served up to 9am -- a little early if you are on holiday. All in all if you plan to be in the area the hotel should suit you.

« The Staff are Wonderful »

This was our second visit after about two years. Help began at reception on arriving and went on for the four days we stayed. Our room was great, the food was excellent, (dinners and breakfasts) and the staff are the best. Roy helped solved problems with computer tablets/phones, others were so helpful to my wife who required help with ice packs, and all were exceptionally friendly. Anyone wishing to spend time in this area to understand the Industrial Revolution, or other aspects of British History can do no better than stay with these wonderful people.

    3
« Nice location, average hotel »

Visited this hotel on business. The area is lovely as is the setting and gardens of the hotel. After the mission of finding my room on the top floor (through six different corridors, none particularly well sign posted) I was disappointed to find a tiny double room which wasn't particularly well appointed. The bathroom in particular could do with a refurbishment as although it was clean, did have a stale odour present. The bed was comfy but it was difficult to watch TV from it. Staff were friendly. Expensive for what it is really, suspect paying for the location.

    « Excellent »

I stayed in the Valley hotel the same night as the previous review. Yes it was stuffy because the country was in the midst of a heatwave! It was not the fault of the hotel! We stayed for 2 nights and on the first night our shower dripped constantly. We mentioned this in the morning and were told that it would be fixed while we were out. When we got back we were told that the shower was not able to be fixed so we were moved to a superior room at no extra cost. We were also given a complimentary drink. Yes, things do go wrong but it is how the problem is dealt with that matters. On Monday morning the hotel was full so the breakfast was pre-cooked and served by a waiter but we could have had as much as we wanted. This morning there were fewer guests in the hotel so everything was cooked to order. The poached eggs were fresh and the sausage was meaty. There was plenty to choose from on the menu. We planned to dine in the hotel on the first night then decide where to go on the second night but the food was so good we dined there both nights. I would like to give a special mention to Roy on reception and bar who wwnt out of his way to be helpful.

    « Family celebration »

The staff at the hotel were well trained and very friendly and helpful. The hotel and grounds look lovely on the outside. The dinner was excellent but the breakfast sparse and though there seemed enough staff the food and utensils/crockery was lacking. The breakfast room was small as were the tables. The bedroom was rather dark and quite tired but the bathroom and beds were good. The hotel is old so there is a difficulty moving around and provision for disabled people was poor. Some areas were better than others. The hotel was very stuffy in the downstairs rooms and corridors/stairs. Fresh air is free and would make staying there much more pleasant. the windows in the bedroom opened to make sleeping more comfortable on a hot summers day. The garden was lovely and a great place for a wedding. The tables and rooms looked lovely and a wedding taking place outside looked very well organised. Overall a pleasant place to stay but the hotel would benefit from and update in decor and making the moving around the hotel more accessible and airy. The hotel is expensive for the current quality of the bedrooms. The staff were 5 star and this helped to make the stay pleasant.

« A lovely location close to Ironbridge gorge. »

A very well run hotel in a lovely location on the river with a great walking trail into the centre of town. The hotel itself offerred every comfort, with a very good restaurant and well stocked bar and lovely gardens. The bar itself though , looked a little drab and could be livened up with a splash of colour here and there. The old house itself is a little tired in places but our executive room was splendid and well equipped with coffee facilities , hairdryer and trouser press. The food in the restaurant was of a very good standard with well trained staff in attendance. This hotel proved to be an excellent choice for a short visit to Ironbridge and free car park on site was a real bonus.

« Lovely Hotel with welcoming staff »

Hotel set in lovely grounds and an ideal location for all the local attractions around Ironbridge being located at the end of the High Street. Plenty of car parking. Staff very accommodating and friendly. Lovely breakfast included in our booking generally restaurant and bar food a bit pricey.. Drink prices good. Lovely room but no air conditioning and window was screwed shut, so hot in the room. Fan provided but would rather have some fresh air, if safety was an issue would have been better to but a bar on window so you could only partially open. If not for this would have given five stars.

« all the good reviews are correct »

As part of a large group staying for 3 days we were very well looked after by all the staff Its an old style hotel as you can see from the photos but has good character, Front garden opens straight on to the park and river front, A slightly quirky lay out of some rooms but very nice for that and a beautiful tiles staircase as a previous owner was a tile manufacturer. The menu we were on was a pre arranged limited menu not the al a carte but we had an excellent choice and superb quality a credit to the chef and catering staff. Will I stay again yes without a doubt. Cant wait.

« Perfect location and friendly staff, needs some tlc »

The hotel is located in the Severn Gorge very close to the Iron Bridge museum complex with gardens going down to the river. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful and the meals were good. Like many converted country houses parts had seen better days particularly some of the public areas and the entrance was difficult with luggage thought there was an accessible entrance via the bar. The bedroom we had was a bit small and the bed very soft though some may like it that way.

« Three Nights in Ironbridge »

The hotel is centrally located so a convenient to explore the area. The grounds lead into the local public park which is very pretty. Our room was clean and well appointed with a nice view and enough room tho' a second easy chair would have been nice! Breakfast was hot and well cooked as was the bar meal we had one evening. All staff were very friendly and we would love to stay again if we are in the area.

    « Beautiful setting »

Picturesque hotel with lovely gardens. Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast is a buffet, it was good. However I prefer cook breakfast to order. Very close to the ironbridge and its museums. Little tip if they put you in the one of the two rooms up the top of the spiral staircase, asked to be moved. The only thing that spoilt it for us was being waken by the sound of very load running water at 4.30am in the morning that seemed to go on for ages.

« Beautiful hotel in beautiful valley »

We stayed 2 nights here and dined in each evening. There really was no incentive to go elsewhere. The room was clean and spacious. The breakfast was the best buffet breakfast we have ever had and it was piping hot. The evening meal was delicious with plenty of variety. You are advised to book early! The staff were proactive and very helpful with knowledge of the locality An ideal place to stay

    « Excellent food »

The restaurant served up astoundingly good food and the menu was quite adventurous. All the staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. The hotel setting was beautiful although our hotel bedroom was on the second floor and was reached by quite a few stairs and corridors. Our en-suite bathroom and toilet were on a different level to the bed and sitting area and was reached by stairs in the room. The room itself was very spacious and comfortable.

« First visit to this hotel and area »

Hotel was excellent.the staff were very obliging and friendly.food was good and our room was on the ground floor so no stairs to climb.the hotel has its own car park which is a big bonus as some hotels in the area do not.the hotel is nicely situated and has a nice garden.

    « Specify Your Room »

Nice hotel with helpful staff and a good breakfast. Very well placed with grounds going down to the river. We were in a group who booked 9 rooms and at least three couples complained that their room did not have an external window and so it was very hot. Our room was on the first floor with two windows and it was fine.

« Not exactly disabled friendly »

A lovely hotel in beautiful Ironbridge and Shropshire. Pity that there were too many steps from the car park to the entrance of the hotel. Two deep steps and about eight steps from the carpark with one into the hotel. After reaching the reception which had another set of deep steps we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff. Our room was small but clean and practical with a disabled shower, which had a lift to our room. Lovely breakfast. Cannot fault the hotel, but something needs to be done about the disabled entrance to the hotel eg ramps,

Returned for at least our 6th visit to find nothing changes(thankfully)The food in the restaurant was amazing,Just enough choices to ensure perfection to detail in presentation and flavours.Even though there was a wedding event on there was no noise in our room was compact as you would expect from a traditional country hotel.Very clean with nice fluffy towels and duvet. The hotel grounds meet the parkland on the Riverbank 2 mins walk away.A few steps to get back up to the Hotel but not to be missed .Will hopefully return in the near future.

My husband and I stayed at the Valley Hotel for 3 nights whilst exploring the Ironbridge area. The hotel is in an excellent location, a few minutes walk from the Ironbridge and several of the museums so we didn't need our car. There are also several cafes, restaurants and pubs within easy walking distance. Our room was comfortable and well equipped, the only problem being squeaky floorboards, but in an old building you expect that. There was a wedding on during our visit so we were expecting it to be noisy at night, but we didn't hear a thing. The food in the restaurant was amazing! I cannot recommend it highly enough. We had breakfast every day and had an evening meal as well - first class food and very nicely presented. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will definitely stay there again, as we loved the area. 3 days just wasn't enough time to see everything so we will be back.

Didn't actually get to stay here so I can't comment on the hotel but I had booked a room last weekend through Expedia. It seems that Expedia hadn't passed on the details of the reservation to the hotel and they were full up. Despite this they were exceptionally helpful if getting the matter sorted and finding me a place

    « Unique and friendly »

What an interesting hotel. Take a few rows of tiny old cottages with narrow streets between; roof over the streets; carpet the roads, make the cottages into unique bedrooms. Quirky and fun. Lovely staff; reception and bar/waiting staff were most welcoming and nothing seemed too much trouble. Lovely Chez Maw restaurant on site - see separate review but it was excellent. Note that some of the rooms, because of the design mentioned above, do not have outside facing windows. My room only had a small frosted glass window out onto the covered in 'street'. It did have aircon and a ceiling fan.. it was very comfortable. If fresh air is important to you, ask to have a room with outside facing windows that will open onto fresh air. Wifi was good. Plenty of parking, and outside the bar a small terrace with iron garden furniture and a pleasant view down towards the river and across to the steep wooded hill beyond.Very quiet and peaceful.

    « Superb service »

My stay was excellent. My room had a lovely view of the park and cleaned to a high standard. Jo, in charge of the restaurant was so nice. She ensured that despite two weddings and a corporate function, other guests were not affected. The young waiters and waitresses were a credit to the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for the reception staff. The meals were well presented, tasty and adjusted if you needed it. There was plenty of choice and the portion sizes perfect. The grounds are lovely and a short walk to the riverside. Overall the wonderful service with value for money. Would definitely recommend to others.

A wonderful hotel, set in a lovely location. The staff are very friendly, the food is first class. I have nothing bad to say, I highly recommend this hotel. The breakfasts were very good. and the restaurant served 1st. class food from a good selection from the menu, it always had daily specials. I will be returning again for another break.

« Good ambiance poor facilities »

A former house with historic interest, our arrival promised a good stay. Lovely gardens and an airy and pleasant reception area with helpful, attentive staff promised much. All of the staff were helpful and pleasant. Sadly, our room was a big disappointment - tiny for a double room and not a comfortable environment to sit and read; and there was nowhere else as the bar was a bar not a lounge and there did not appear to be a lounge. We wanted to have room service evening meal, but there was not enough room in the bedroom unless we sat on the bed. The food at dinner and for breakfast was very good however, and the waiters very pleasant and helpful. I was on business and took my wife with me for a bit of a break but sadly it was a bit of a trial instead.

    « Lovely location »

This was my first visit to Ironbridge. Coming through the back of Telford you have no idea you will end up in such a delightful spot. The valley is tranquil and wooded. There are lovely pubs, parks and places to visit. Sadly I was there on business, but the hotel fitted the bill well. The rooms are comfortable, clean and quiet. I had an internal facing room in the old house, but that was fine. I had a good pub meal there, which was reasonable (cheaper than the normal premier Inn fare) and the breakfast substantial (if you wanted it). Good wifi. Service was excellent. All the staff made a real effort to make you feel welcome, and look after you. Really good. I'd recommend this hotel

    « Lovely setting »

We stayed for two nights. Comfortable bed with a view over the garden. Shampoo, bars or soap, mending kit and shoe cleaner supplied. Breakfast was good with both continental and full English. Only downside was the shower water volume and the lack of hot water.

« Friendly hotel with with great staff »

A modernised hotel with plenty of character and the friendliest, most helpful staff you could hope to find. They really seemed to want to do all they could to make our stay as enjoyable and successful as possible. The food in the 2 rosette restaurant is of a very high standard, not too fussy and from a nicely varied menu. The weather was poor during our visit but sitting in the gazebo having a drink before dinner every evening, watching the rain patter down on the flowers in the garden around us was a great memory to take away!

    « Very disappointed »

We were so looking forward to our time away, we were attending a wedding at the hotel on the Sunday so thought we would make a weekend of it. Arrived on Friday we had booked two rooms close together one for my disabled son, I rang the week before to check the hotel understood his needs. We were given two rooms in a conservatory not in main hotel, two dark rooms with small window you can not open air we turned on the air con as it was so stuffy we did not sleep very much as the air con was so noisy the air con in my sons bedroom did not work properly it was either to hot or to cold he was quite distressed and did not sleep. I asked to change rooms on Friday evening they found us two other rooms, which we have just come into I open a window and we must be over the kitchen as the noise and rattling generators is awful. I am thinking perhaps we were put here on purpose , the room is ok but nothing like what I thought I was booking on the website. I can't tell you how disappointed I am we rarely go away and feel best western have let us down. The restaurant Friday night we booked for 8pm finally shown to our table at 8.50 after ordering in the bar food was another 15 minutes food was nice ordered puddings which took over 20 minutes to come out and my goodness the smallest portions quite disgraceful ice cream was not even a scoop. Breakfast I ordered porridge which I could not eat it was uncooked and pure stodge I went to get quosont there was no plain one left so I asked a young waiter who told me he would get me one there I sat for 15 minutes I asked another waiter who came out and told me there is none as they take 20 minutes to cook. So a yogurt was my breakfast here. Nice location I will make a complaint to head office as I ave never been so disappointed with any hotel Our view in second rooms is flat roof and air vents.

    « Faultless »

Set in one of the most picturesque settings imaginable, this hotel is a real gem; clean, comfortable, beautifully decorated, quiet, ample parking, wonderful gardens, great local draught beer, first class service, friendly and efficient staff and food of the highest quality. I was only sorry not to have stayed longer, but am going back next month. With wonderful riverside walks to the iconic ironbridge this will also make a great leisure break.

    « Welcoming Hotel »

The Best Western Valley hotel is a great place to stay, the staff are welcoming and went to great lengths to make sure our stay was comfortable and restful. The setting is beautiful and the rooms well decorated and comfortable. Our only complaint is that the top floor room we had was very hot and had a tiny window which did not allow enough air to circulate, it was a very humid day though so it might be better at other times of year.

« Excellent in all respects »

Have been debating for some time for a visit to Ironbridge and using the Valley Hotel for accommodation. Finally made the decision and was not disappointed. From the outset the standards of the staff are extremely high and could not in any way be faulted. The standard of the accommodation is very high and provided all of our needs. The restaurant was of the highest order both service and menu. The chefs are obviously well qualified and capable, for the food throughout the three day visit was fantastic. The area around the hotel is idyllic, both the outside area of the hotel and the fact that it borders on a very nice park with the River Severn flowing through it. This provides a fantastic vista from the hotel and ability to have very pleasant and relaxing walks in the area. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the centre of Ironbridge and within easy reach of a many museum venues proving the full story of the area throughout the industrial era. There are restaurants in the area but myself I would not try these because of the high standards of the hotel restaurant. A fantastic three day break and already we are planning a return visit later in the year.

« Excellent hotel in a great location »

Very friendly and efficient staff. The full breakfast was brilliant as was the evening meal-very good service, minimal waiting time. The room was clean and well serviced. All communal areas were clean. Good bar with reasonable prices. Hotel gardens are very attractive with easy walking access along the river bank to the town's attractions. Ironbridge is definitely worth visiting.

« Fab Birthday Afternoon Tea »

Visited this afterrnoon with my friend as a birthday treat for Afternoon Tea. As the weather was so gorgeous we sat on the terrace overlooking the gardens and down to Dale End Park. So relaxing and peaceful. Afternoon Tea consisted of plenty of Sandwiches, Lemon Drizzle Cake, Chocolate Brownie, Fruit Tartlets and Fruit Scones with jam and cream Plenty of tea and a glass of prosecco each. My friend also had a "Birthday Plate" with chocolate writing a "Coulis Balloon", Shortbread, Petit Fours, & Seasonal Berries. As always service was friendly and efficient. Special "thanks" to Ryan and Sally making this a wonderful afternoon treat.

    « A wonderful experience »

We came here for a late wedding anniversary and my birthday, the room was comfortable and had a bath, shower and toilet with hot water, soaps and shampoos were provided also free sachets of tea, coffee and hot chocolate with some biscuits, We ate out a couple of times, but had a wonderful meal on the Monday night, my wife had a meat meal which she loved and I had the best ceasar salad I have ever had, We had to drink our champagne in our room as they do not have corkage but we had spam local beer which was excellent, All in all we had a wonderful few quiet days away by the river.

« Food to die for »

We stayed at The Valley for a family wedding that was being held there . What a lovely setting for a wedding it was too. The hotel was charming and Ironbridge is so pretty it's really worth checking out the museums and mainly Blists Hill open Victorian village We had dinner twice in the hotel and it was SUPERB . The staff where extremely friendly and helpful All in all this was a most enjoyable stay and we can't wait to return ...

« Interesting hotel on the edge of Ironbridge »

The hotel has made interesting use of an industrial building. It is a comfortable hotel but The bathroom was to warm. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good. The hotel has a restaurant but the prices looked excessive so we diddidn't eat at the hotel. There is a pleasant garden and the hotel is centrally placed for all the attractions in Ironbridge.

    « Poor breakfast service »

We stayed here for my daughters wedding reception. We had lunch which everybody said was fantastic. We had the evening reception which again was very good and the food for the buffet was very well presented and enjoyable. The room we had was clean and tidy, and had everything you would expect. We arrived for breakfast at 08.20 and asked for coffee....the coffee eventually arrived at 08.45 and it wasn't that busy! We then ordered more coffee again having to wait for almost half an hour for this also. This part of the service really let's the hotel down.

    « Excellent Hotel. »

The Valley Hotel Is clean and our room was clean and comfortable. The food was good and the staff were extremely friendly, polite and helpful. My wife has a number of medical issues and the staff could not have been more helpful and considerate. Perhaps the best accolade that I can give is that whilst the Valley Hotel is part if the Best Western group we were left with the impression of a family run hotel. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

    « Really enjoyable stay »

Spent 3 nights here and would highly recommend it. The restaurant is terrific; would be very happy to dine here on a regular basis if I was a local. I stayed in a single room - it was in a converted stable block that's under cover so quite a quaint and unique set up and my room was up a spiral staircase. It only had a tiny window but it wasn't really an issue especially being out all day. The location of Ironbridge is stunning and a great base to explore from.

    5
« An extremely pleasant stay »

A brilliant three night stay. Everything was 100% perfect. Staff were extremely pleasant, helpful and efficient. Excellent breakfast and the evening meal in the restaurant was wonderful, so much so that we ate there all three nights rather than going out to a local pub to eat.

    « Happy Customer »

We were very pleased with this hotel, the overall experience was perfect, the staff, the view, the room were all great. We would definitely stay here again if we were to visit Ironbridge again. This hotel deserves more than a 3 star rating.

    « A room without a view »

An oddly designed hotel - some rooms are nice but a number have no windows and are uncomfortable and airless at night. Here it's all about the room you get so try and influence that before you open your room door and start searching for the window. Restaurant was actually fantastic which is the reason I score three stars and not two.

    « Ironbridge's First Class Hotel. »

The hotel staff were extremely helpful at all times. The hotel was very clean and well maintained. The gardens too were well maintained and two hundred yards from parks and the river. Dinner times were requested, this worked well with freshly cooked food professionally presented. Congratulations to the chef and staff.

    « Lovely wedding »

We got married here at the end of March and had an amazing day. The staff were brilliant and had patiently dealt with all our queries and stresses before the big day and ensured that everything went without a hitch. Everyone commented on have delicious the food was, including a family meal we had had the night before at Chez Maw, and praised the staff as well. Guests commented on how happy the staff were and how they were always smiling and genuinely wanting to help. They worked tirelessly to make sure that the room looked fabulous and ensured that our day was the best it could possible be and we just wish we could relive it all over again. We can't possibly thank you enough!

Excellent location to serve the local Ironbridge area. Plenty of free car parking. Room very good size with large bed, very clean. Shower could have been a little more powerful. Made use of the on-site restaurant which served excellent food and was good value. Overall very impressed with the facilities and looked after very well by the staff. Would definitely stay there again.

« Excellent value for the 3 day offer »

My husband and I booked the special 3 day leisure offer for bed, breakfast and evening meal. It was excellent value. The evening meals were 3 courses which were chosen from the a la carte menu. I had expected there to be some limits on what we could chose, but there were none. The food was delicious and we really enjoyed it. Drinks, including coffee, were not part of the deal but this was made clear. The staff were young and very friendly, polite and helpful. A real credit to the hotel. They made our stay special. The deal includes the annual passport for all the Ironbridge Museums. This was a saving of £25 for each of us! There are steps in the hotel which should be expected as it is an old building. The location is lovely with beautiful gardens to look out on from the dining room and bar Windows.

« Great Hotel in a Fabulous Setting »

Just returned from our second visit to the Valley Hotel in Ironbridge. The hotel is excellent. We were very fortunate this time as we were upgraded to the honeymoon suite! The food in the Chez Maw Restaurant is superb, especially the evening menu. The Chef is very talented and deserves a lot of credit for his wonderful menus. We have eaten in there on both of our stays and will be returning again for our third visit. To be honest we wouldn't stay anywhere else when visiting Ironbridge. The staff are extremely pleasant and polite, especially Jessica in the restaurant, nothing was too much trouble for her. If we had to give one little niggle it is the lack of signal for the wi fi in room 18. It is very poor and we both gave up after 6 attempts of getting the connection and it dropping 2 minutes later. Ironbridge is a lovely place to visit there is plenty to do in and around the area. The museums are very interesting and educational and with the annual passport the value for money is excellent!

« Good place to stay »

As part of a group of 35 people I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights last week. The setting is delightful as one can walk to the river in a couple of minutes and from there along a river path. The hotel is small and therefore has a cosy feel to it but the best parts are the staff who are caring and friendly and the food served to us which was excellent. Before going into breakfast on the first morning I asked for a blanket and it was in the bedroom when I returned. That's good service! We had our meals in a separate room from the restaurant which meant we could have larger tables which are more sociable when one is in a group. That was sensible. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff on reception or our 'private' restaurant. I will recommend it.

    5
    « Hotel with character »

The situation of this hotel just above the River Severn is excellent and it is a short and pleasant walk along the river to Ironbridge itself. Some may not like the lack of modernity in this Georgian building - its decor is generally a little dated - but this only adds to the charm of the place itself. The staff were, without exception, very friendly and helpful. There is a lot to see in the surrounding area - so much so that we shall have to return.

« Stay at home if you want a good nights sleep!! »

We stayed here for one night only over the Easter break. We had moved out of a privately owned B&B just along the river ( which was a complete disaster and another story altogether ! ) and were looking for something modern, clean, modestly priced and with a central location. The Best Western Valley Hotel was our choice. We had two rooms in the new Mews part of the hotel. On the advice of the receptionist we made a reservation for dinner in the hotel restaurant for later that evening and set off to explore the main street and have some lunch in the local pub. All good so far. The menu in the hotel restaurant was not vast, and we were in two minds as to go elsewhere. There was little ambience or atmosphere to speak of and the decor and table settings were bland. The waiting staff were polite but seemed young and inexperienced, possibly new and nervous. The food was of average quality and presentation, we did not have dessert or coffee. As we were half way through our meal the tables around us were cleared of candles and wine glasses and were busily being replaced with breakfast condiments. It seemed as if we were not expected to linger! THE ROOMS!!! So so noisy! The walls and floors must be made of Balsa wood. We could hear people talking from the floor below, moving around, turning TV channels, closing doors and snoring. I actually had a full conversation with my daughter in the next room through the bathroom wall. The following morning whilst waiting for my husband to load the car another couple were checking out at reception, and were asked if they had enjoyed their stay. The answer was No! They were shattered from lack of sleep on the two nights they had stayed and were very much looking forward to going home. The receptionist removed the cost of their previous evenings drinks from their bill. One other couple checking out complained of no hot water in their room for their two night stay. ( I'm sure a fiddle with the in shower temperature controls is all that was needed to fix this problem ) Prior to this my husband had already checked out and paid our bill in full.

« Two night stay in Ironbridge »

This was our second visit to Ironbridge and to this Hotel. Lovely place to spend two days with visits to the local museums. Some nice bars and restaurants within easy walking distance if you did not want to eat at the Hotel. Two great days out at the Blists Hill Victorian Town and also to Severn Valley Railway in nearby Bridge North (not to be missed)

    « Excellent 3 star hotel »

The location is great and the staff extremely helpful. For our taste both the rooms and the beds (particularly) could have been larger. The alternative would be to have sheets as well as a duvet for greater comfort and warmth

« A boutique hotel that would appeal to decorative arts enthusiasts »

This hotel is quite unique. It was originally the home of a decorative tile manufacturer and the stairs and hallway are decorated with the most beautiful and unique tiles. The modern furnishings are also quite comfortable and elegant. However, you do need to keep in mind that this building is now over 100 years old and as such the floors creak and you can hear noises from other rooms; the water pressure also is not as good as some other hotels. It's location is good for Ironbridge. It is just on the outskirts of the village, has its own carpark and is an easy and enjoyable walk to Ironbridge. The hotel has beautiful gardens and is also close to the river. You can also see the cooling towers from the old power plant further up the gorge, but they do not distract from the overall verdant and relaxing feel of the location. The Valley Hotel has an excellent, beautifullly decorated restaurant where I enjoyed a most delicious lamb dish, although my husband was not happy with his steak. Breakfast is available but we also felt it was a bit overpriced. There are several pubs, inns and cafes in Ironbridge if you want to eat elsewhere. The staff at the Valley Hotel are all very polite and helpful and the hotel was very clean and welcoming.

    « Outstanding value for money ! »

Hello Folks, Stayed here for the night on Thursday 24th March, mainly because of another excellent offer. Double bed and breakfast for two, for the sum of £73.50p. Superb. We were met with the usual friendly welcome at Reception. The Receptionist said she remembered us. How nice we both thought. We were handed the keys to room 40, which was superior to the mews room we had on our first visit. Everything worked fine and it was well presented, clean and tidy. Breakfast on the following morning was gorgeous. One of the best hotel breakfasts Ive ever eaten. Cooked fresh, hot, plentiful and very tasty ! Here`s to the next offer :) Gary...

    « A LOVELY HOTEL ? WORTH A VISIT »

Our first visit to the BW Valley Hotel at Iron Bridge near Telford, and would without hesitation return and recommend. This is a hotel of mixed accommodation with rooms in the old part of the original house and newer rooms in the very attractive hotel extension. The hotel caters for both business and leisure customers. The first positive impact is the warm and friendly welcome at reception. Nothing is too much trouble, including carrying your bags up two flights of stairs, as our room was at the top in the older part of the hotel. The hotel has character. Our room, which over looked the rear garden and park, was a good size and very comfortable. The daily maid service to the room was faultless. A very positive asset of this hotel is its staff. Everyone whether at reception, in the bar, or in the restaurant, is polite, courteous, friendly and very professional. It`s the staff that make you feel welcome and in doing so create a warm and friendly environment, nothing is too much trouble. The restaurant affords a good choice of both hot and cold food for breakfast, but it`s the superb evening meals that score another very positive asset for this hotel. Besides the excellent attentive service by the staff, the food quality and presentation is first class and reflects the justified accolades bestowed upon the chef and staff. The only reservation we have was that the advertised dress code for dinner in the restaurant is smart casual, but unfortunately this appears not to be managed as trainers, jeans and tee shirts were very evident, though not among the more mature dinners. The hotel is situated in a very good location, a pleasant 10 minute gentle stroll along the river to the centre of Iron Bridge. We had a very enjoyable stay, and as previously stated, would return and happily recommend.

We got married here on 12th Feb 2010 and it was the best day ever, just perfect! We try to get back for a meal now and again to remember our perfect day! We even booked ourselves a room for the night and were over the moon when they upgraded us to the honeymoon suite. Love the place!

« Excellent location, genuinely helpful staff »

Set in lovely well maintained grounds. Location is great for exploring nearby market towns and the Ironbridge museums. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend trying the restaurant- food was excellent. Good breakfast, room was very comfortable, although I have stayed in smaller rooms in this hotel which weren't so good. Worth upgrading if staying for more than 1 night. there was a wedding party on the Saturday night but we didn't hear any noise at all and it did not disturb our stay at all.

    « Friendly & Professional Staff »

My wife and I stayed at The Valley Hotel for 3 nights and we were upgraded to a corner room on the top floor ( Number 18 ) which had views over the garden and down to the river. It also had a large bay window which overlooked the hotel car park but there was no noise whatsoever. The room had a old fireplace with decorative tiles around it which was in keeping with such an old property which was once the house owned by the Maws family that owned the Tile factory. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant and the food was excellent and could be called fine dining with a good choice menu and reasonably priced wines. Breakfast was excellent on our first 2 mornings when we were served at our table but on the 3rd morning it was buffet style which was not to our liking. The serving staff were exceptional and went out of their way to accommodate all diners requests. We like our toast at breakfast well done and the very friendly young lady on duty made sure that it was served that way. All in all we enjoyed our stay and can thoroughly recommend this very nice hotel in Iron Bridge.

    « museam visits »

Just spent 3 days at this hotel with my wife and have had an excellent visit. The Valley Hotel was excellent in all aspects. Our room which was a standard was still very good with nice furnishings and kept very clean by a good maid service. The bar and restaurant were both very comfortable to spend time in. We were on a bed and breakfast basis but chose to have dinner in the restaurant and were not disappointed. We both enjoyed a 3 course meal and thought that the food was excellent, nicely presented and well delivered. The restaurant staff were efficient, friendly, polite and of a very good standard. I do not like to differentiate between staff but Lee deserves a mention also Alice. having said that all the staff were excellent. Location of this hotel could not be better for all museums and the town. Walking out the rear of the hotel brought you into the park and riverside walks. We will certainly use this hotel on a return visit.

    « Exceptional Restaurant »

If you are visiting the Ironbridge Museums over two or three days, it would be well worth checking this hotel as an option for your stay. Placed on the edge of a pleasant park on the banks of the River Severn its location is both ideal for walking to the town and several of the Museums (about one hours walk to Bliss Hill, well may be add half an hour more) The hotel is in a quiet location with plenty of car parking available. We stayed in the main house and found the ensuite room small but pleasant enough, no frills as this is the older part of the building, but it had adequate facilities and most importantly was clean and tidy. What however is worthy of note is the restaurant, the menu was excellent and food exceptional, topped off by highly professional waiting staff. I would be happy to find this standard in a five-star hotel, well done to all. We selected a 3-night package on a breakfast and evening meal basis which also contained a pass to all attractions. Given the high standard of the dinning we found this to be exceptional value for money.

« The Best Western Valley Hotel, Ironbridge »

Just arrived home from a lovely week - end in Ironbridge and a visit to Blists Hill Victorian village which was a superb day out. The Best Western Valley Hotel, Ironbridge is a fantastic hotel next to lovely gardens and walk-ways by the river. My daughter and myself had a twin room on the ground floor which was very modern and exceptionally clean with tv and en-suite bath and shower. The bath was much appreciated after a long cold day out. There was a tray with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and bottled water. We had a hiccup with the radiator...but this was sorted out promptly and satisfactory. The staff are brilliant, very helpful...especially the young man on reception. The food in the restaurant is 1st class, we had a fantastic evening meal and breakfast, there was so much choice and very affordable. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Ironbridge.

Our first stay here, we stayed two nights, very happy. Nice room and very clean and quiet. Tea making facility in room, tv, plenty of drawers etc. Good shower too. Our room had a four poster bed. Very helpful friendly staff. Good restaurant for breakfast and dinner, and a nice bar. Good car park. Walk down one of the paths from the back, to the river then along the river to the Iron Bridge.

Room 16. Absolutely lovely hotel, quirky old building, little stair cases and lots of creaking! Room was gorgeous with a four poster bed and a corner bath. Stunning location and woke up to the sounds of the woodpecker! Food is gorgeous and freshly cooked by a long serving chef. The blade of beef was scrumptious and the breakfast cooked fresh and tasty. Absolutely will stay there again!

« The best hotel I've ever stayed in »

The hotel is lovely in a lovely setting in historic Ironbridge and has free on site parking. When I arrived, the receptionist was very welcoming and carried my bag to the room. When I got in the room I was amazed. It was beautiful. The bed looked like a super king size. Everything looked clean, fresh and new. The complementary refreshments were very good - even bottled water and hot chocolate as well as the usual tea and coffee. The bathroom was stunning and had underfloor heating. The room was lovely and warm and well appointed. I had a great night's sleep and in the morning, I saw there was an amazing view of the famous cooling towers from my balcony. I really needed the peace quiet and comfort after a tough few days. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to others. Great value too.

    « Wonderful »

We arrived at approximately 3pm and staff took the time to greet ud although it was clearly very busy. We had drinks in the bar area and then at our request were promptly shown our room by Steve. The room was spacious and immaculately clean. We were above the kitchen area and some noise could be heard but this was of no disrupt to us as it was only during the serving and preparation of meals. Our room overlooked a flat roof, although we could still see some picturesque views of the surrounding areas. The carvery was amazing, Lots of choice of vegetables and as much as you wanted on offer. A variety of choices on offer at breakfast - lovely. Waitress service was excellent and staff were very helpful and friendly, the place was very busy but i must say very well organised. I enjoyed staying here and will most certainly be going back.

« Lovely food-room could have been better »

The food both dinner and breakfast was really excellent-great choice, good service and tasting yummy. Checking in was a disappointment-small cubbyhole in one corner of large entrance foyer. Other guests were balancing on the steps to talk to the staff. Only really room for one receptionist to deal with multiple guests arriving together. Room was overheated and if you opened the window the noise from a generator or refrigeration unit outside made sleep impossible. Could be such a wonderful hotel

    « Excellent Location »

Typically excellent Best Western Hotel with a fantastic restaurant and top quality food, but this time the location was perfect. A short walk through Ironbridge to the bridge itself allowed us to walk off a few calories and take in the wonderful views.

« Worst bed I've ever slept in »

The hotel is quaint , the staff were lovely but the bed was terrible. I had a single room and the bed was like sleeping or trying to sleep on a plank of wood. To top this off on a cold night it seems the heating was turned off resulting in me waking up at 2 am shivering and trying to find more blankets or something to keep warm

    3
    « Poor single rooms »

Stayed here 3 nights on business. Hotel itself nice enough, no complaints over service, excellent staff, or food. I had a single room, very small and so noisy. My headboard was against next doors bathroom, when he/she was awake at 6am, so was I as the walls are paper thin. As a result sleep quality was very poor. Shame really, otherwise it's a good enough hotel. As with most best westerns I've stayed in lately bedroom furniture tends to be old and tired. Also no room biscuits!! How rude..

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff was always helpful and friendly, the breakfast was great and the location is so peaceful. Would love to see the gardens in spring. The hotel offers free wifi and parking.

    « On the Banks »

A perfect location right by the river with walks available through the parkland. We visited just for a couple of days to enjoy the sights around the bridge and town. Then a short trip to see the various museums nearby. Within walking distance of the visitors centre at the Wharfage and a little further to the Ironbridge itself. The attention to detail at the hotel was in evidence as was a desire to attend to visitor needs. The room was excellent if a little cool in the evening. Well worth a visit next time you are in the area.

    « A Gem of a hotel »

From check in to check out the staff are all Very Friendly & welcoming. Nothing being to much trouble. A lovely hotel with the only negative being it not having a lift in the main block. Dinner (s) were of an excellent quality being served by friendly efficient local staff (makes a welcoming difference these days not to experience language issues!!). Breakfast was scrummy too. Very impressed that the bar sells 'proper' good draft local bitter (averagely priced). Our room was very clean & comfortable. On our second night there was a wedding reception which, gladly, did not spoil our stay. Am looking forward to a repeat visit, I hope, in the near future.

« very good hotel in the country side »

we stayed here for four nights to attend a training at a near by place. the hotel has a wonderful staff, smiling and attentive. single room is small but reasonable sized. restaurant food were amazing. all the required amenities were provided in the room.free parking. there is a super market near by. world famous first iron-bridge is 5mts by walk. the place as it is superb. the water pressure in the shower is low, other than that no complaints and very happy to stay here and will again stay, if needed. Free wifi. Breakfast was reasonable, nothing great though.

« Perfect for a short break away »

Had a terrific two night stay away exploring the area and the hotel proved tp be a perfect base. The room was clean, a good size and adequate the bathroom though was a little dated and when we wanted a shower there was not enough hot water for both of us to get fully washed and prepared for our evening out. The staff are wonderful without exception very friendly, efficient and accommodating nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Well done team you did the company proud. We ate in the resistant for one evening and it was superb food well cooked beautifully presented and perfect service could no fault it. The bar was equally well stocked good choice of local cask ales, always a bonus to get away from the 'plastic' beers a lot of hotels serve. Walks from the hotel are good Ironbridge and all it's services are only a few minutes walk away and walks through the park along the river bank a mere 100 meters away. All in all a good choice but the bathroom could do with up dating.

    « Simply the best »

My wife and I have just enjoyed a three night stay at this wonderful hotel. The staff were absolutely amazing from the start. Attentive, helpful, friendly and proffesional. The room was spotless and very comfortable and with a wedding party happening beneath us we were not disturbed at all. The dinner on all three nights was superb. My wife said it was like being a judge on Masterchef! We would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit the area. There are several restaurants and pubs in easy walking distance but with the choice and quality of the menu at Chez Maw in the hotel I cannot see why anyone would choose to dine out. I am sure we will stay again in the future.

Lovely hotel, in great location for visiting all that Ironbridge has to offer. We did not dine in the restaurant, but we had breakfast which was very good. The staff were pleasant and polite, with smiles. Our room was complimentary upgraded, spacious and lovely view over gardens and river. Great price for a great short stay.

« Good location and Comfortable »

Stayed here for a short break in November. The hotel is well placed with good parking for a visit to the area. The room we had chosen was fairly basic, but functional and clean. The room was up in the rafters and did not have central heating. The heater provided was efficient however, although the room took a while to warm up upon our return to it. Breakfast was excellent with good choices and the bar meals we had were of good quality. The service was efficient and friendly. Found the historic tile work in the hotel interesting.

« Good location, excellent staff, very comfortable »

Right from the start, this place gave a good feel. The receptionist was pleasant and welcoming (like they should be but aren't always!) I saw several staff on reception during my stay and they were all very good. I was lucky to get a room upgrade and the room was well-equipped, clean and comfortable. I ate in the bar one night - good selection, good food and very pleasant serving staff. The breakfast buffet was good, though on one morning the fresh fruit salad was all gone; cooked breakfasts were very good and, again, the staff could not have been better. The hotel is an old house, dating from the 18th century and much altered and there is a fascinating history of the building in reception for those who are interested.

    « A gem hotel »

This hotel has very friendly, attentive and helpful staff. It is set in a very picturesque setting of the gorge, close to other visitor attractions. the restaurant is excellent providing a range and quality of food which was not expected at this price range - very well done - I'll certainly be back to stay again in future.

« Comfortable and Good Value »

Recently stayed 2 nights while visiting the local museums. Large bright and comfortable room overlooking the lovely gardens. Staff very efficient and friendly. Good traditional breakfast to get the day started. Evening meal ok but not exceptional for the price. I would stay here again if visiting the area.

Visited Ironbridge with my partner and the location is perfect for people to visit. It's a 10-15 walk to the main centre and the bridge but it's perfect for people who like a walk. Room was excellent. Only flaw was the room was a but noisy from the people above but it was excellent. Breakfast was delicious and I can't fault the service. Excellent place. Would recommend to anyone interested in industrial history/archaeology. ANDY

« Excellent Long Weekend with Friends »

We came as a party of 16 for a long weekend, although we were the only 2 to extend to the Sunday Evening! Upon arrival we were quickly booked in and given our room key (nice to have a real key, no danger if it failing!). The room was more than adequate comfortable bed and dual aspect windows. The hotel seemed very warm but with no visible radiators, we soon discovered it had underfloor heating! The Lighting was low energy fluorescent's, sadly not very quick at producing full brightness. The Bathroom was modern with a rainfall shower. The side screen was not properly fitted so sadly leaked when showering. The over sink shelf and towel rail were loose so I reported this to reception when leaving and the assured me it would be fixed immediately. The free WiFi was excellent all over the hotel! The meals are excellent on all occasions. Breakfasts were perfect and hot, and the evening meals very tasty and well cooked. The location is ideal for all of the museums in the area, many just being a short distance so can be walked to. In finishing I have to say that we were superbly looked after and treated very well. Thank You!

    « Cold Hotel »

Visited hotel as our normal hotel was full with a function, rooms were very small for the price paid, Hotel is well situated near river and close to bridge of approx. 5 min walk. Staff were very friendly and helpful, parking is easy with good size car park, the hotel is an old house and the decorative tiles along the corridors are a sight to see, However heating going off at 11pm and not coming back on until 6.30 on the coldest night of the year is not good and the room was very very cold with no means of alternative heating, my colleague did raise the next day and the hotel apologised but its not good, they said it should have been on all night.

Just spent three nights with friends from America at this hotel. It is located near the river via a lovely garden and 10 minute walk from the bridge. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. We dined in the restaurant every night and we all wondered why it did not have a Michelin star.Car parking is easy and the hotel will certainly be recommended by our American friends.A big thank you to all the staff for making our visit memorable.

Very good quality for the price paid for a weekend winter break. Cooked breakfast freshly cooked and brought to your table, no buffet service which was a nice change. Overall, a good base to visit the Ironbridge heritage sites which all are in close proximity.

    « 3-night leisure break - celebration of my wife's 70th birthday »

When booking I accepted the offer of a room upgrade to a "garden view" with a 4-poster bed. This turned out to be a large room with a very modern refurbished and spacious bathroom. On being taken to the room it was mentioned that the remainder of the corridor on that floor was closed off for refurbishment i.e. a new ceiling and floor. After expressing some reservations we were advised that the work would only take place between 9am and 3pm and on this basis we accepted the room. It would perhaps have been courteous if we had been forewarned of this work. It soon became apparent that we were not the only occupants of the room as we started to find ladybirds crawling over the walls. The following day after pointing this out to reception we were advised that the room had been thoroughly cleaned and checked but unfortunately the next day there was a recurrence. We were informed that the room had again been thoroughly cleaned and were offered to move rooms, but as this was our last night and as we could not face moving our things we declined. Despite the glowing reports on your site regarding the food, we were very disappointed with the breakfasts, in particular the very dry scrambled egg and chewy bacon, and as the hot food was not a buffet the portions were quite basic and we were glad we were on a package and not paying £13.50, the going rate for breakfast. After pointing out the shortcomings with the bacon there was a slight improvement on the following two days. When we checked out I noticed that the bill was for the full amount and I expressed my disappointment that there was no reflection of the problems we had had at which stage the receptionist immediately offered to deduct the upgrade surcharge of £30. Had the hotel been more proactive I feel that our stay might have been the relaxing break that we had hoped for. Overall we were disappointed with our experience at this hotel although to be fair the staff were all very pleasant and friendly.

« Lovely 2 night stay at The Valley Hotel »

We have just returned from a fab 2 night break at this hotel. Ironbridge is a lovely quiet area, just what we wanted after Xmas/new year. Some lovely places to see. The hotel was lovely and spotlessly clean. We were upgraded to room 10, it was fab with a four poster bed and beautiful views over the gardens. The only little niggle was that the ensuite bathroom was very cold, not good getting out of the shower. We left the heated towel rail on the whole time but it made little difference . The staff in the hotel are very friendly and helpful and the food at breakfast and in the evening was excellent, not to be missed. We have stayed at other Best Western hotels but this one is by far the best. Thanks for an excellent stay and we will return in the summer.

    « Excellent staff »

The staff at the hotel are outstanding. Food quality was great. The room was small but well finished with decent quality bathroom fittings. Outdoor gardens would make this hotel even more attractive in spring and summer. Would use again for business and would bring the family of ever the need arose for a hotel in the Telford area.

    « Outstanding »

This hotel is the very reason that I choose Best Western hotels, they are all so different instead of samey like some chain hotels, a little bit quirky in a good way, the food is outstanding and the staff are brilliant, this was the second time I have stayed here and it is firmly on my regular list

« Great value for a flying visit »

We stayed one night on business, on a very reasonable bed and breakfast deal. We were upgraded to a family suite which included a single bed as well as the super king bed. The room was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was up a few steps on a mezzanine landing - again, it was fine with a corner bath with shower over. The shower was electric and therefore a bit feeble, which was a shame. We ate dinner in the restaurant. My whole meal was very good, however my partner had to send back his steak as he had asked for rare and it was barely pink. The second one wasn't a great improvement and he didn't enjoy it and asked to have it removed from the bill. The service in the restaurant was great and our issues were dealt with very professionally. Breakfast was good. The gardens looked very pleasant and the public areas of the hotel were attractive - all nicely decorated for Christmas. I would recommend this hotel as great value with good service.

On arrival i was greeted by the lovely staff who could not do enough for me and my partner on our stay.we recieved an upgrade to a lovely room with a four poster bed and a huge bathroom. Although we did not dine there in the evening, when we had breakfast we were speaking to another couple who did and they said the food was splendid and would recommend it to all, Breakfast was very tasty and plentiful. « Lovely hotel »

Stayed two nights for a family wedding in Bridgenorth. Unfortunately, we picked the weekend of the terrible floods farther north, although Ironbridge, itself was closed off as the main street was under water. The hotel garden was mostly submerged. The local road diversions allowed us to use some amazing country roads. Room, food and staff at the hotel were excellent, although I share the 'TravellerFromNWales' comments about the shower. It was necessary to run arround to get wet. Would stay again and, maybe next time get to see the bridge from dry land. .

    « Amazing Experience »

Stayed at Valley Hotel recently. I cannot praise this hotel and it's staff enough. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff here. So warm and friendly. Room was very comfortable, and the food was just amazing. A really varied menu, not just a meal, but a taste experience. Best meal I have had in quite some time. Breakfast all freshly cooked and brought out to you, didn't need to cook your own toast either ! The usual Continental, fruit, cereal etc. was laid out for you to help yourself too first if wished. Wish every hotel could be as good as this one.

    « Superb location »

Stayed overnight for a quick autumnal getaway. Lovely converted house whose grounds are next to the river, with the iron bridge only a short walk along the riverbank, this is an ideal hotel to base yourself to explore Ironbridge and the surrounding area. One of our party had some mobility issues and the staff went out of their way to make sure she was comfortable and had an appropriate room, but those with very limited mobility might struggle with the layout of the hotel. This isn't meant to be a criticism, merely an observation on the constraints of an old building. The rooms seemed to have been recently redecorated, which was tastefully done. Our rooms were amply sized, with comfortable beds, warm and cozy and had free wifi. The rooms and bathrooms were spotlessly clean, so we'll done to the housekeeping team. Only minor niggle about the room was the shower lacking much power and force, but this is forgivable, as I'm sure the logistics of getting more electricity and water into the rooms would prove challenging. The communal areas were fresh and airy, breakfast was good value, plentiful and prepared to order. All the staff we came into contact with were charming, friendly and helpful. Can't wait to return!

    « Another lovely stay »

From my perspective this hotel concentrates on good, friendly service and excellent food. It's rooms may be individual and quirky but the beds are comfortable, the bedding and towels are excellent quality and all the staff are very approachable. The food is excellent and whilst we were there this time, they catered for 2 large parties as well as individual dinners and opened up another room to offer a peaceful spot to enjoy the food. The kitchen seemed to cope remarkably well with the logistics/numbers and the staff ensured that service was as excellent as usual. It is in a quiet location with an easy stroll to the centre of Ironbridge. A previous review captured this as a 3 star hotel with a 5 star restaurant, long may it continue. Room 15 was a little chilly when we arrived (we were allowed to check in early) but the wall heater soon took care of that. Improvements? perhaps it is time to replace the carpet on the top floor.

Stayed here for the weekend for My Grandad's 90th Birthday. Very Friendly and helpful staff and Meal was excellent too. catered for our every needs. Reasonable Bar prices too. Great location for Ironbridge and surrounding area as it is only a 10 minute walk away from the local town. Only downside is that i didn't really sleep that great due to the loudness of the toilet flush in the room above us. definitely would stay here again.

« Perfect Stay for Working Weekend »

I have stayed at this hotel several times and once again it lived up to expectations. I was helping at an event, " Gorgeous " at Enginuity so the hotel is perfectly located as just a 5 minutes drive away. I was staying with my daughter and our twin room was clean, a reasonable size and most of all warm as it was a very cold weekend. All the staff we encountered were friendly. The breakfast was cooked nicely and a selection at the buffet in keeping with this standard of hotel. The restaurant however always amazes me as it is just so good. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. The vegetarian dishes also are interesting and equally delicious, as are desserts. I would recommend this hotel to anyone planning a stay in Ironbridge.

« basic hotel nice staff »

Check in and all dealings with staff vet good apart from delays in collecting key after being out when had to press buzzer to get staff from bar to give key back which took several minutes. Rooms very hot even with window open and radiators off as hot pipes fed radiator and ran through room. Breakfast average at best. On a positive note staff were excellent

    « Graduation Party »

We booked my daughter's graduation party here and invited family and friends to join us. We had a private room, with its own bar, and a lunch buffet for about 30 people. The staff who were helpng us for the day were amazing - nothing was too much trouble. I have to mention Phil in particular because he was with us from the start right through until we went into dinner in the evening. He was really friendly, patient and helpful and was back to serve us breakfast the next morning. The food was lovely - really good quality - for all three meals. The accommodation was very comfortable and clean. Many of our guests stayed overnight and none complained about anything in their rooms. Excellent value for money, terrific staff and beautiful location. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough!

« Old fashioned and classic »

The decor of the hotel is old fashioned and reminds old English houses. No air conditioning. The Receptionist wasn't present in the few times i needed them. No safe in the room. Located in the heart of the local tourist area near the famous Iron bridge.

« Short break in Ironbridge »

We've just returned from a half term break at the Valley Hotel and it was a fantastic experience. The hotel is situated about 5 minutes walk from the centre of Ironbridge allowing quick access but being at the edge of the town it is nice and quiet. The hotel is really clean and being owned originally by Arthur Maw is furnished with unique tiles that after being produced had the patterns destroyed. We were in room 10 which was spacious and tidy with a lovely view over the gardens at the back. There was free Wifi and it was very fast. The staff were brilliant and very attentive catering for all of our needs and my partners gluten free diet. Special mention must go to Lee and Roy who we did not realize until checkout were twins and this explained how they seemed to be everywhere in two places at once. The food was absolutely fantastic and the awards that the chefs have obtained over the years are richly deserved. I'm going to have to diet for the next couple of weeks. Ironbridge has lots of museums to visit and it is worth visiting the museum of the gorge first to pick up a passport which gives you access to all of the museums and saves a lot of money. The Victorian village at Blists Hill is worth a visit as is all of the other museums. We all spent a day walking around Hawkstone Park which was brilliant as well as going to Much Wenlock, Shrewsbury and Bridgnorth where we had a trip on the Severn Valley steam railway. We will definitely be visiting Ironbridge again and look forward to staying at the Valley Hotel.

« Good value for a 3star Hotel with a 5star (in my view) restaurant attached (Chez Maws) »

We received a Great level of service from all the staff. The twins Roy and Lee had a great manner about them and initially left my wife and I with the impression that there was one extremely 'hard' working member of staff covering both front and back of house!!.. Nothing seemed too much trouble and thoughtfulness abounded (my wife had a glass of wine left in her bottle after dinner but had left it (the waiting staff kept it behind the bar in case we left it in error and should wish to enjoy it the next day!).. It is Extremely well located and a short walk to the town's main attraction (10min). A well stocked CoOp is a couple of minutes walk with a handy cash machine should you need it! As are two or three pubs... If like I you use TA as a guide for restaurants beware some restaurants included the best rated in Ironbridge are not open everyday, when we went that inc Mon-Weds. That said Chez Maws situated in the Hotel was and with a lovely menu! We had breakfast included and my full english was enjoyable, our first breakfast was a delight to have in bed (for a nominal extra charge of £2.50 per tray)!.. The ensuite room was clean, a four poster bed, single glazed and as the central heating was on a timer and so came on in the evening Roy on reception did bring up an electric heater in the meantime. The only reason it did not achieve a fivestar rating from me was the room layout, the double bed was set out against the internal wall adjoining the next room's toilet and the walls were not that thick. The tv was situated to the right which meant that if you watched it for any elongated period you would end up with a creak in your next. Both minor points were raised at check out and I was left with the positive impression that my comments were welcomed and that they would be noted. Overall a great two night stay that I would be happy to recommend!

    « Great for a family party »

We had a wonderful family party in the Jackfield Room - there were 26 of us for a joint 60th and 30th. The room is perfect for this amount of people and looked lovely with the tables beautifully set. The meal was superb - we had individually preselected from a delicious menu. Everything went very smoothly and the staff were all cheerful, efficient and friendly. After the meal they rearranged the tables for us so we could all have a good catch up with other members of the family - it was a very memorable evening.

    « Very Friendly Hotel »

The Valley Hotel has a warm welcoming feeling to it. Although it is an old building it has a certain charm about it that has made me return. The staff here always go that extra mile to accommodate your needs if of course it is possible to do so. I was placed in room 12 this time & had to walk up a load of stairs having a bad hip this wasn't ideal but as there was a Wedding & 60th Birthday party going on that weekend they had to move my room from a lower floor to 2nd Floor. Having said that I still had a lovely stay my room was clean & the food was very good. The Bar staff were very pleasant & polite to us. Reception on checkout asked if I had enjoyed my stay I mentioned the stairs and they said they would make a note to say if in the future I make another booking I can only be accommodated on lower floors not to be moved from these, which I thought was very nice of her. Over all me & my husband had a good weekend here & We will be staying here again some time in the future.

An overnight stay during a visit to Ironbridge museums was made even better by a great stop at the Valley Hotel. We thought it might be a struggle to cope with 41 people on a coach but registering was efficiently done and luggage arrived quickly in the rooms. Dinner was really good and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast proved a challenge - trying to keep up with all the bits of a full breakfast - but everyone was eventually seated with a delicious start to the next day. Just time for some to walk to the Iron Bridge, while others walked around the hotel gardens and riverside. Again checkout was brisk and efficient. Would certainly stay here again.

Hotel was OK, bed a little hard for me but that isn't usually a problem for a few nights. Breakfast served from the 'hot plate' was warm and not hot. It was cooked properly though. Dinner was inclusive and was well cooked and presented but as expected high price/small portion. Package we had was for 3 nights Dinner Bed &Breakfast and included a free passport to the Ironbridge Museums. Staff were all pleasant, and room was clean although cold during the late afternoon/early evening. Free wifi in the room needs to be registered with an outside organisation and in our room was poor quality

    « Very disappointing »

Here with a group of friends for two nights taking in ironbridge . Really disappointing . Its a tired place with an old building a lot to do to modernise but it could be run so much better. Room was disappointing with faulty shower and very poor bed and generally needed a good look at . Breakfast quite a shambles with quite a few staff who seemed to mostly hiding in the kitchen nobody seemingly in charge and queues forming at the hot food counter with nobody behind serving. All this with not that many people staying. Getting attention was difficult and the clattering of plates being cleared was really noticeable . Staff training seemed poor but it could be so much better. Reception failed to ask how was your stay and the whole place needs a jump start. Quite expensive for what it is. Not a great best western

« Service which one might expect from a 5 star establishment »

From the moment one goes through the door until one leaves there was always a smile for the customer in this hotel. Nothing was be too much trouble and all the staff should be very proud of what they have achieved. The rooms were immaculate, the food well prepared and presented and the general ambience was one of having a good time

« Pure all round excellence! »

As a regular resident of hotels across the world, I would like to say that my stay has to be one of the most enjoyable for many years. I found the staff to be extremely professional and welcoming. I was checked in by a most courteous young man whom I saw through out the week for my room service. Room service was brought to me with a smile and a very professional attitude even though it was brought up two flights of stairs! Breakfast service at 7am was provided with a smile all week. A positive experience like this makes staying away from home more enjoyable and I will certainly be back to The Valley for a recreational stay with my wife. Please keep up the high standards of service and professionalism as it really does make the difference to frequent hotel users like myself. The management team should be very proud of the team at this hotel and the staff should receive a very well deserved pat on the back. Keep up the good work!

My wife and I spent one night at the Valley Hotel having eaten at the Restaurant earlier in the year. We had travelled across from Telford where we had spent the previous 2 nights at Hadley Park. At check in we were given the key to our room, 45 I think. The room was ok but we found the bathroom a bit on the small side. We had been spoilt with a huge room/bathroom at Hadley Park. I discovered that I had left my mobile phone charger at the previous hotel so went to reception to see if they had a spare. The receptionist brought 2 boxes of charges that people had left! I did have to return it however. Restaurant meal was very good as was the breakfast. The only downside was that our bed was quite uncomfortable and the bedding consisted of a heavy duvet. We prefer not to have duvets as they are too hot for our liking. A pleasant walk around the footpath at the back of the hotel is recommended. Also we could not get the free wifi to work.

« Excellent base for a visit to Ironbridge »

Ideal location, big car park and beautiful gardens leading down the the river Severn. The receptionists are very helpful, as are the rest of the staff. Our en-suite room was comfortable and clean. The hotel bar looks out to the gardens and has two choices of local real ales!! We ate in the restaurant on both nights of our stay. Can't fault the food or the service. A party of us were staying there and had negotiated a very good rate for dinner, bed and breakfast. The hotel is close to the Gorge Museum (worth a visit) and about half a mile from the ironbridge. Would stay at this hotel next time we are in the area.

    « Superb stay »

Perfect location - although a fair walk to the ironbridge itself and a drive distance to some of the museums. Hotel had a lovely ambience. Staff very friendly and approachable and as for the food, absolutely beautiful in taste and presentation. Only slight negative comment, bedroom we had the window was really small but that's a personal preference. Would not hesitate to stay there again and as the museum pass is valid for a year we probably will

    « Wonderful short break »

Excellent accommodation. Breakfast amazing - freshly cooked. Restaurant and bar meals in evening were also very good. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The only down side was noise - ok it is an old building so you expect creaky floorboards but our room was over the bar/restaurant area and there was always noise late at night and early morning - obviously staff clearing up and setting up. However I would stay there again.
