    « Very nice »

Stayed here while on a trip to the Somme. Lovely room with a jacuzzi. Nice to see an iron and ironing board in the wardrobe. Nice bar shame it closes at 11.00 tho. Nice breakfast. Lots of nice little bars around and restaurants

Very comfortable hotel, stayed for three nights, lovely spacious room and bathroom, with everything we needed, breakfast was basic but good, all you needed before a long day out. Bar for anyone who needed a relaxing drink in the evening, and some snacks. Close to restaurants if you had the energy to go out, helpful staff.

Clean hotel, most of staff friendly & helpful manager could do with being a bit cheerful.Good size rooms with safe, fridge, tea & coffee making facilities. Food OK normal hotel bar prices. We had room on first floor over looking garden with no noise, others had room on road side which can be busy. The main disappointment was that as a coach booking we were put in side room for Breakfast & Dinner, it was hot and stuffy. In the hotel info it said that we would be in restaurant over looking gardens. Normal guest had this room.

    « WW1 Battlefield Trip »

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights as part of a Alfa Travel coach party. Could not fault the room and the food. The staff in General were friendly although the manager clearly didn't want to be there as he lived in Spain. We found a nice little local bar round the corner and were made most welcome by the Belgium people who were in there. The tour in itself was brilliant although very moving at times.

    « Excellent visit »

We stayed for only one night and found staff, accommodation and breakfast to our satisfaction. We ventured briefly outside hotel which appears to be in a mixed residential, small commerce area (but we didn't find a small local bar ) Bar prices in hotel are reasonable though! Can't recommend for lengthy stay. Apparently about 15 minutes from Menen Gate.

« Average hotel but good base for battlefield tours »

We stayed here as part of a battlefield tour group. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the hotel rooms are a good size and clean. We had a good size bed, good size bathroom and tea and coffee making facilities. Unfortunately many of the rooms face directly onto the bar area and garden so our evenings were quite noisy. The biggest issue we had was the heat in the room, something other guests complained about. It was stiflingly hot with no air conditioning. There was a fan provided but is was noisy. We either had to put up with the heat or open the windows to the noise from the bar garden. Breakfast was included but was quite basic.

« Great Room but facilities poor »

we'd heard via other travellers on Tripadvisor that the hotel had poor facilities. On arrival we were pleasantly surprised. Our room was clean, nicely decorated, a shower room to die for (bigger than our bathroom at home). Tea & Coffe making facility, free safe, extra pillows, good TV with more than just BBC World Service or News, comfortable& good sized bed, but the biggest surprise - we had air con! The reviews said there was none. However, on discussing our hotel with our fellow travellers, we must have been the only family with air con! The rest of the reviews were correct. No bar snacks other than crisps, yet every table had a menu for both drinks and pizzas and a couple of other snacks. The door to the bar also showed the menu. The hotel pointed to a vending machine - could not find it & on enquiring discovered that it needed fixing but the manager did not know when that would be! The only place that seemed to be open later (after 10pm when we arrived & after our tours) was the "chippy" but that was well over 1/2 a mile walk & they deep fried everything including the burgers! On Sunday we did find a restaurant which was a bit nearer, their website said it was casual & cosy - ideal. When we got there it was silver service but they let us in in our shorts & trainers - luckily. There are no local taxis to take you further afield ie you have to order one from the next town to take you to that town! Considering we were doing the battlefield tours of WW1, most of the tours did not get us back to the hotel much before 9pm, therefore too late to look for some refreshments outside, this hotel was actually in the middle of nowhere, not really good for tourists.

Just returned from a week long battlefield trip. This hotel is an ideal place to stay for visiting the somme and Ypres. Friendly staff, warm welcome and great food. Clean and comfortable rooms. A great week had by all.

    « Delightful Hotel »

This is a really nice hotel. Breakfast good, staff great. The rooms are very clean, unfortunately we were there at the hottest time of the year there is no air con but the fan's helped a little. Would recommend the hotel, very nice.

    « Lovely hotel. »

My husband and i stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The hotel is lovely , one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The bedroom no 108 was nice comfortable and airy . Bathroom was no and clean and plenty of room to move about in. The staff are nice and pleasant and always helpful. Rear garden was nice and neat with tables to sit outside for a drink. Meals ok ,loads to choose for breakfast. Over all we enjoyed our stay as most of the other guests on our tour.We would stay again. Many thanks.

    « Perfect Stay! »

We stayed last night on a stopover on the way home from a river cruise with Shearings. Following a week in a small cabin our room seemed huge. Beds were comfortable, spotless room and bathroom, very thick towels and air conditioning. We had a 3 course evening meal of soup and fresh bread, beef in beer gravy and tiramasu. The staff made us feel welcome and happy to have a joke. Very pleased with this hotel as were the others on the coach.

    « Disappointing. »

We were staying in Menen whilst on a tour of the WW1 battlefields. So after a long day of traveling all we wanted was to be able to fall into bed and sleep. Unfortunately this was almost impossible as we arrived at the beginning of a heatwave. The room did not have air conditioning and there were no opening windows. There was a door which opened onto the garden, but that does not lend itself to great security. We did eventually have the door open all night - the only way that we could get fresh air into the room. You may well argue that they rarely experience those sort of temperatures, but the hotel that we stayed in in England had air conn and lets face it we rarely get those temperatures here. The room itself was a decent size, but the décor was very tired and dated. The dining room for breakfast resembled a school canteen from the 60's. It was dark, cold (the only room that di have air conditioning, but turned down way too low) and unwelcoming. There were no facilities to tidy away your breakfast things from the table, once finished and it was only on the last morning that there was a member of stand on hand to clear away. The reception area was fairly bland and was rarely manned. On the plus side the room was clean, although the carpet was a bit grubby and the towels had a grey washed out appearance to them. We are planning to return to the area next year, but will not be staying there.

« 4 night holiday to visit First World War Sights »

The Hotel was clean and the English speaking staff were helpful and friendly, although being on a main road, some traffic noise is heard. It has a lift to the first Floor. Breakfast is self service and mainly Continental but Small Frankfurters, Scrambled Egg and Baked Beans are served as a hot alternative. However there is no other meal service available during the day or evening. The Hotel Book states that bar snacks such as Pizza are available in the evening from the Bar, however when we enquired about this, we were informed that no meals are available at this time of the day. As it is a fair walk to the main Shopping/Restaurant area of the town, I feel that a big Hotel chain such as Best Western should offer some kind of evening food, even if it's not elaborate. The other problem is that the rooms are not air conditioned. The days that we were there the temperature reached 35 Degrees Centigrade outside. The room was about 28 Degrees all night even with a small fan on that the Hotel provided. It was very uncomfortable sleeping.

    « Base For A Tour »

My wife and I had booked a coach tour, "In Flanders Fields" WW1 battle fields tour and this hotel was our base. For the sites in Belgium, Tyn Cot, Essex Farm etc. it was ideally placed and only a 15 minute drive to Ypres where we went at night for the Last Post at the Menin Gate. The French sites, Thiepval, Arras, Vimy Ridge. Beaumont Hammel and Perron were a little further away but still a reasonable distance. The hotel has the more the feel of a business hotel but it is very modern and scrupulously clean. Staffing seemed minimal but at no time did this mar our stay. Our bedroom was large and comfortable at the back of the hotel overlooking a lawned area with garden furniture which was nice for sitting out. Although there were brewing facilities in the room the supply of tea bags was a little avant guard but coffee supply was ok but I had to be a little imaginative to obtain extra milk, extra tea bags could be obtained from the breakfast bar. A safe was also supplied in he room. Some of our party were on the front of the hotel and could not open the windows as the road outside was quite busy. We were staying on a half board basis and the food was excellent. Breakfast was continental with a generous selection of cold meats, cheese, fruit, cereals etc. but also a small selection, (scrambled eggs, sausage and beans) of hot food. We had to chose from a menu for the whole stay on our first night but this was not a hardship as we were only staying for four nights. The food was well cooked and plentiful. Menin does not have much to offer the tourist but there are some nice walks down by the river and parts of the town are quite picturesque with other parts feeling run down. Over all this is an excellent base for a tour but not to be considered as a resort.

« Nice Hotel. Bad Location »

I stayed at this hotel last week and thought it was very good. The room was cozy and the beds were comfortable. However the breakfast was very minimal so would recommend eating out for all meals. Also location very poor with no views and a very loud street in the morning. Now for the main part, the bathroom was very clean with a modern, working shower and all other necessities.

« Average and much too expensive! »

The room was clean, and ok, but there was a doorstep, high, for going to the bathroom, I find it very dangerous, at night, when you're a bit sleepy. In the bathroom, are some damages (douche, windowsill ) No airco in the room, it was very hot! You can't open the window, for the noise coming from outside, and there is no wire gauze. On the menucard for the bar, is indicated, opening from 12°clock, but we couldn't have a drink before 16 h. and the prices are very high, I never paid 5 euro for a beer , 5 euro for one leffe, the most expensive in the whole neighbourhood. the breakfast was not good at all, small flys on the meat and cheese, the scrambled eggs were very dry, and looked suspicious! Next time it will be the Ibishotel in Kortrijk again!

« USED AS A BASE FOR A TOUR OF THE WW1 BATTLEFIELDS »

Excellent room with plenty of space. A well appointed bathroom the addition of a rubber mat for use in the bath to increase my confidence regarding slipping. The buffet breakfast was very good with scrambled egg, baked beans and, sausage. Coffee or tea ,fruit juice, toast, butter and jam. The bar was pleasantly decorated and overlooked a small garden.

    « Lovely hotel near Belgian/French border »

We stayed here overnight and it was a great place for our two reasons for staying there. Firstly we were visiting WW1 sites of my great Grandfathers regiment and secondly to attend the UEFA football in Lille. We were upgraded to a suite which is a super room - large with a jacuzzi and very comfortable. A lovely treat! And very clean with plenty of towels and soap etc. The breakfast, which was included in the cost, was lovely, varied and plenty of it. We enjoyed that. I was surprised to see negative comments about the Manager in other reviews. We found him helpful and good fun with some football banter and other chat. We could also tell he is very professional and takes his job seriously as well as being fun. Overall we had a very good experience and would be happy to stay here again.

« Thanks, i hope to come back next year! »

This is now the 3rd time I am coming with a tour operator in that hotel and I have always been very satified about my stay. The rooms are large, with BBC channel, not a brand-new super modern hotel, but a very nice and clean one ! And what I really like, is the service of the staff. They do every day their best to satisfy you, at the reception, in the breakfast room, even the girls which clean the room are friendly. I hope to come back next year !

    « Dissapointed »

We have just returned from the same tour,"All Quiet on the Western Front", 24 to 27 of March 2016. Whilst the tour was excellent and the hotel was adequate, clean and comfortable, breakfast okay. My sister and I shared a bedroom at the hotel (room 120) and we also found makeup missing from our makeup bags, mine was a L'Oreal eye shadow and L'Oreal blusher my sister also had missing a Boots eyeliner and John Frieda hair serum. We didn't report this to the manager as we had found him very unapproachable on two different occasions one being when we were having trouble with the TV he came to the room sorted it and told us not to touch the buttons on the remote in a very abrupt manner the other when we asked him for extra milk was told very sternly go to reception. On returning home we immediately reported this matter to Leger Holidays and we are awaiting a reply

    « Inhospitable Management »

Just stayed here as part of the Leger "All Quiet on the Western Front" tour. Let me firstly put into context that I have NEVER written a negative review before. The facilities of the hotel were satisfactory i.e. the room, food and amenities. What really let the hotel down was the staff ? namely the manager and whoever was responsible for cleaning room 117. On the 29 March I was in the breakfast room and had taken my own cup in to fill with coffee and then drink in the room afterwards, before leaving (I drink black coffee which takes a while to cool so decided to do this otherwise I would have been sat in the breakfast room for a while longer than necessary). Whilst I was filling up the cup at the machine ,the manager shouted across a crowded breakfast room that I was not allowed to do this. I said I was just filling it up to take back to my room to which he said there is coffee in the room. So I stopped immediately and went back to my room. I regularly stay in Hilton and Marriott hotels where takeaway coffee back to your room is encouraged as they even supply extra cups for this ? so I had no idea it was such an offence in his establishment! I really did not appreciate being shouted at across the room in front of other passengers and the tour guide, so I decided to go and to speak to him at reception to give him some friendly feedback that in future he should just go up to people and speak to them quietly . His response was to shout back at me ?I am the Manager I can do what I want!?. Clearly it was obvious that this was not a conversation I wanted to continue so I left and informed the guide of the incident. I visit a lot of hotels in my job and privately and have never been spoken to in this manner ? it was totally unacceptable and embarrassing ? I felt like a young child that was being told off by a parent ? rather than a customer! The second incident: On the morning of 31 March ? I unzipped my make up bag (which had been in the bathroom of the hotel) to find that my Yves Saint Laurent ?Touché Éclat? had disappeared. There was no other place that it could be as I used it the previous morning and then returned it to the bag ? it would have been at the bottom of the bag as it is one of the first items of make up I use. I went and informed the guide and he came with me to speak to the manager ? we did not make any accusations ? simply said that it had ?disappeared? and again the manager responded in his usual unhelpful manner ? ? my staff return I pads and 1000 Euros they have not taken it!? ? We asked if they could be vigilant when servicing the room that morning. I never heard from him again! The driver had overheard the conversation and told me that a similar incident had happened before when a girl had found make up had disappeared from this hotel ? but nothing had been reported about it. Clearly this is not an isolated incident. I have had to replace the item - £22 in cost. It is not worth claiming on my insurance as the excess exceeds this amount. So I am out of pocket. To conclude the Manager did not treat me how I expect to be treated when in an hotel ? there was a clear lack of hospitality from him. Shouting at customers is unacceptable ? particularly when unprovoked! I heard from other passengers that they were shouted at as well, over other incidents within the breakfast room.

    « Clean,quiet and large room. »

Friendly welcome. Large secure car park. Our room was large, very clean and quiet. Good size bathroom with efficient shower.Tea and coffee facilities in the room. Discount for over 55! The continental breakfast was ok but I would have liked a proper decaffeinated coffee, they did not have any, had to do with a sachet. The restaurant was closed (on a Wednesday) but we found L'Epoque about a km away which served excellent food.

    « Great Staff »

Stayed here for 3 nights on a National Holidays Tour. Lovely spacious rooms and enormous bathroom.tea and coffee making facilities, small fridge and room safe free of charge. Very clean and the staff were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. Good choice at Breakfast with choice of hot and cold buffet. Evening meal was included on our trip and was all very good and hot! Stayed in the Hotel bar all three nights as was adequate for us but other guests told us other bars, restaurants within walking distance. Great choice of hotel.

    « Somme Tour »

Perfectly decent hotel and ideal for touring the Western Front. Clean rooms, fresh bedding, great bathroom and plenty of hot water. A good variety of food for breakfast so nobody need to leave the hotel hungry. Pleasant helpful staff. I would return to this hotel. Town is a bit quiet but there is a great restaurant about 10 minutes to the left out of the hotel.

    « Clean and Comfortable »

Stayed four nights in this clean and comfortable hotel. Bigger than average rooms with large bathrooms supplying lashings of hot water. Usual offerings of TV, Telephone, room safe, Tea & Coffee, Soap & Shampoo. Breakfast included (continental) serve yourself buffet style. Could get a little hectic trying to serve yourself tea/coffee from a machine whilst also making toast in a four slice toaster (please get a bigger one) whilst several other patrons want to do the same. Very short walk to local bars and restaurants. I would stay there again and recommend that you do the same

    « Leger - Battlefield Tours »

I found the hotel, clean and my room quite spacious, plenty of hot water, and the free wifi, worked perfectly. Sadly !!!!!!!! the breakfast was lamentable. The response to a previous comment from the manager is certainly not true in regard to the breakfast provided in the "reserved Leger" breakfast room, perhaps he was confused. This is by far the most lacklustre breakfast I have received for quite a few years, and yes I am a vegetarian, dried fruit , choices in bread, dream on. My apple was great.

    4
    « Leger - Battlefield Tour »

Good clean hotel, my room was generous in size, clean and well presented. On the downside the continental breakfast provided was appalling. Processed cheese slices, synthetic tasting scrambled egg with a distinct lack of anything "continental" offered other than the yogurt pot names. If your a vegetarian, stay well away.

We stayed at this hotel as part of our 4 day trip with Leger Holidays, the room was lovely and spacious, very airy and clean, bathroom absolutely huge with toiletries and plenty of clean fresh towels, replenished daily if needed. There was a fridge and safe together with tea and coffee making facilities, we forgot to bring our euro plug so reception lent us one of theres which we were extremely grateful for. We had a twin room which we come to except with a European hotel but we pushed the beds together which was no problem at all. The bedswere very comfortable and relaxing and there was plenty of pillows if we required more. There was also a fan in the room as even though this was September it was still quite room for the time of year. Breakfast was lovely each day and very plentiful, there was toast, cereals, fruit juices, yoghurts, scrambelled eggs, beans and sausages, also croissants with a choice of different jams etc. The cafe au lait from the machine is to die for and a definite must to start the day! The staff were very friendly and welcoming, thank you very much for making us feel so welcome, we truly had a lovely time.

    « battle field visit »

Just back from 4 day stay, with Leger tour, room great though a bit warm but soon sorted with fan in room. Breakfast good, the hotel doesn't have evening meals, but good outlets nearby. The bed comfy and plenty of information in welcome pack. Only slight down side was the bar ceased at 23:00hrs, whilst excursions came back about 19:00 or 20:00hrs, so going out for a meal meant that if you were talking about the days events, it closed of the topic, maybe bar could stay open an extra hour? The staff were helpful to all my requests, for iron- adaptor.
