"Rather Bizarre Stay"
Stuart_Away_Again, 16 Septembre 2023

Arrived for two nights with a group on a battlefield tour. All seemed a bit odd. Staff very young and lacking real management. Restaurant very slow although food was good. Hotel is set on a major fast road with no real pedestrian access to the town and a real lack of taxis in the town. Overall an OK stay but really nothing the retirement for.

"Not too bad. Could be better for service at dinner"
73North, 20 Août 2023

Good hotel with decent facilities, very far from centre of Chateau Thierry, so walking there on busy main road , with NO pavement would be dodgy . Food good , but service slow and courses take a while to reach you after you have ordered. Shower good. One weird design - there is NO internal door handle ! You have to push the door shut once inside And push door to get out . 2 towels a day supplied . Air conditioning excellent. Plenty of parking. Very busy main road , but noise at night not an issue. Have slept well , all week.

"Adequate but not great"
Travelbug18, 28 Mars 2023

Chose Best Western Chateau Thierry as first stop after picking up a car after an international flight from CDG airport. We found the room large with a comfortable bed but dated decor. Ate at the restaurant but would not recommend it. The food was just adequate but not great and cost too much to be just adequate. The hotel is not in walking distance to any other restaurants so a drive is necessary if you don't want to eat at the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. While the whole experience was adequate I would not choose to stay here again.

"Great views"
adamtL8622DU, 30 Mai 2021

I have only stayed at the Ibis before, but the Best Western is not like an American one. The staff speaks passable English as long as you are willing to try. I used it as a way to improve my French. The restaurant is not great but I suspect that is due to COVID. Patrick seems to be the head waiter and does an amazing job. Overall, the staff has gone out of their way for me. Will definitely stay here again.

"A hidden gem"
stevemassey63, 05 Décembre 2020

A lovely hotel on the edge of the town and just off the dual carriageway, very modern inside and lovely view over The Valley ,the hotel staff went out of their way to make us meals on arrival during these difficult times it was way above what we expected, quality of the food is very good ,the room we had was spotless clean and very comfy beds .I would highly recommend if travelling in the area

"Bad service"
PleunMarijnissen, 26 Septembre 2020

The hospitality in the hotel is very bad. We made a reservation for a car plus trailer parking (this was confirmed by the hotel) When we arrived the girl at the reception told us it wasn't possible to park our trailer. She wouldn't help us out. Also there was no room service (on a Saturday night!!!!) available while they advertise with it. We found out around 8 pm. No excuses or anything. Very unfriendly staff at the reception. Also the toilet was broken and it kept flushing all night

"Mold in room"
helenet2013, 18 Décembre 2019

We stayed one night in December and we were surprised by the low standard. Our room had almost no ventilation, and as a consequence of that there is mold on the walls. The carpet is unfresh, the toilet is not fixed to the floor so it moves... The breakfast is totally overpriced, no fruit or vegetables. The restaurant was OK, but I was served my main course when my husband got his starter. However this might be a misunderstanding due to language. The worst part was however when I informed the receptionist at the checkout that there was mold in the room and she answered that the room will be renovated in January. I asked how they can offer a room that is not actually healthy to stay in, and to the full price with no information of the problem. Either she didn't understand, or she didn't care. The attitude was anyway quite bad as I wasn't given any explanation or excuse.

"Unfortunately not a large choice available in Chateau Thierry"
Christophe D, 18 Novembre 2019

First things first, one positive remark: Personal is trying to do its best. For the rest..Rooms must be completely renovated and much better equipped. Thick dark carpet, braun paper on the wall, yellowish low light, only one plug at teh headboard where you to chose between light to read or charging your cell phone.. We had a bathtub for a shower and getting and out was really challenging even being just less than 1,90. I wonder how older people could deal with that. The 3 stars are not ok for this one and the price also not. I paid something like a bit less than 100 € for a standard room without breakfast, for a Saturday to Sunday Night. This is what i paid for a real 4 stars ultra modern Radison Blu in Mannheim City center...

"Booked room not delivered"
M G, 04 Novembre 2019

Booked and paid in advance for a superior room with a queen and a single bed - settled for two singles in a standard room on arrival since nothing else suitable was available. The room was clean and adequate although the separate toilet was rather tiny and if you want to close the door you'd better be not too large.... the shower, Wi Fi and kettle in the room were good and the room size was reasonable but no more generous than an IBIS standard twin room. The location on the outskirts of the city was good and the hotel was quiet.

"Very cold, no extra blankets, shame!!"
ovidianac, 05 Octobre 2019

If this hotel is part of a international group , this is a joke!! If to be part of Best western means to keep customers in bad , cold , winter conditions, so this is the place. Becouse i know the french hotel spirit of economy in autumn when i reached the hotel i asked for a heater, and she pretand she doesn t know english. Prepare your self with a bottle of wine to get warm, take a lot of clothes with you, take a blanket from home with you!! Shame for a big company!!! It was very very cold in the room!! And all belongs to a big best western circuit!!

"Good looking from outside ... little bit too old inside"
L0ll0A, 28 Février 2019

Good looking from outside, little bit too old inside: the rooms are spacious but should definitely be renovated. You are in the middle of nothing, but the hotel restaurant is quite good both for dinner and breakfast (pay attention it's terribly expensive!)

"Nice Room & View with Excellent Breakfast"
LeawoodCouple, 15 Septembre 2018

Stayed here with a tour group for one night as we visited the Chateau-Thierry and the Belleau Wood Marine Monuments. Convenient location for both visits. Our room was fairly large with a balcony overlooking the city. The bathroom was good sized with a good, functional shower. Our pre-arranged group dinner was just average but the breakfast was the best we had on our French tour (lots of choices of fruit, pastries/breads, cereals and drinks). There was even a large honeycomb!! In front of the hotel is a nice sitting area/patio which served as a good spot for drinks before dinner. Quite a nice one night stay.

"Nice isolated hotel"
Bilncrs, 02 Juillet 2018

Nice setting overlooking the valley, with a patio area outside the front of the building. We were told the bar closes at 10pm, a little disconcerning being as we arrived at 9.45pm :) We managed to get one in, but could have settled in for more lol. Thought 11 Euro's for breakfast was too steep, but there's no where else nearby, so we suffered it!

"The Place Sucks"
Thomas M, 01 Juillet 2018

This is a Best Western Hotel and it is one of the worst Best Westerns I've ever been in.There is no air conditioning and it's 32 degrees Celicus,it's hot. The breakfast which is a standard in any Best Western Hotel was always part of the package, here you have to pay for a breakfast..This place is a joke. I will never return to this hotel again. It's the pits.

"Second visit"
Copthorne7, 20 Juin 2018

Its a very nice newish hotel in a quiet area. I stayed here a couple of years ago via a car club and Scenic Holidays. It seemed very remote . However this time we stayed three nights and found that it was close to several restaurants, historic buildings, walkable etc. A covered underground car park for the cars , nice rooms, good breakfast, mass/group impromptu meal was not the best idea for the evening otherwise all was very good.

"Typical European Hotel"
420juliam, 08 Juin 2018

Hotel had a countryside/bed & breakfast feel. Our room was in modern decor while our friend's room had green flowers and a country look to it. I believe each room had different decor. Our room was clean and stocked with towels. We brought our fan to keep cool as there was no ceiling fan. We loved the front patio overlooking the city.

"Basic room very small"
HappyWanderers4, 15 Avril 2018

Basic room too small for 2 people with large bags. Located on hill just out of town so nice view across the town. Restaurant pricey but good. Easy parking. Good breakfast with eggs, bacon, cereal, fruit, yogurt and good selection of bread.

"Not brilliant"
nanna-kez, 02 Février 2018

Didn't have much time there to appreciate every thing on offer, it was a pleasent place and clean but the service wasn't brilliant, food choice limited and not so special considering the prices, bar had closed before meal was finished. Not an hotel to visit unless you have own transport either.

"FABULOUS "
Sharfaa, 11 Septembre 2017

Excellent place, with its Wonderful Staffs at reception and restaurants.. Value for money breakfast and superb Gastronomie... Special Thanks to the kitchen dept who cook with love for its client!! Without forgetting the cleanliness of the room.. Made my holidays Thank you Hotel ile de France

"Good hotel but excellent food."
Twinpap, 27 Octobre 2016

We spent one night in a family room. Room was nice, clean on the surface, it needed a more proper/head cleaning. 2 stars. We got room service. What a surprise...really good, homemade food. 5 stars. Breakfast was excellent. Fresh squeezed orange juice, homemade marmalade ect. Not the biggest buffet but all thinks was 1. Class. 5 stars. Pool area nice, clean and a lot more than you can expect from a 3 star hotel. Overall I will recommend the hotel. Total 4 stars......

"Good place to stay"
MVCorey, 27 Octobre 2016

This is a classic French 3-star hotel. Don't let the name Best Western cause you to think something different. It is a classic French 3-star with small rooms, slightly old decor, no AC, windows that open. It is on a hill above the village oh a busy road and a nice view. Book a larger room if you can. The twin room is very, very small. Everyone on the staff is very helpful and helped to make our stay a good one. The breakfast is typical with a nice extra touch - a fresh press orange juice machine. The restaurant is set up beautifully for dinner; we had a fabulous duck appetizer and venison entree. If you don't speak French, be patient when ordering dinner so there's no confusion. We enjoyed our stay here and compliment everyone on their dedication to their hotel and their guests.

"Pleasant overnight stay"
jeffb7, 10 Septembre 2016

My wife and I stayed one night. The hotel is clean and nicely decorated. All the staff were friendly and efficient. The bedroom was a bit on the small side and fronted on to the main road which was about 100 metres away. There was no air conditioning and so with a window open it could get some traffic noise. There is a lift to all floors and ample free parking. The evening meal and breakfast were very good.

"Happy to have a room"
Paul N, 02 Septembre 2016

We left Brittany in the morning and arrived here at 19.30 after being held up for hours due to accidents on the autoroutes around Paris. The room was very small with a cloth wardrobe in it. The receptionist was pleasant and the restaurant was acceptable.

"Bug bites, Noise and Hot"
lelasf, 26 Août 2016

Had a horrible experience. The room was way too hot. No air conditioning. No fan Bugs came in the room because we had to leave all doors open (bug bites) A fast and loud highway righ in front of our room. (Too noise). Bottom Line: if you pay an expensive room it should come with an air conditioning or should not be this hot.

"Worst experience for a 3 star hotel"
Ralph C, 26 Août 2016

We booked a 200.00 dollars room per night (2nights) the room did not have an air conditioner. I had to ask for a fan as it was 110 degrees outside and the room was hot. The front desk did not seem to care. For a 3 star hotel it was the worst experience in France.

"Good choice "
Dona_Nils, 28 Juin 2016

The hotel is situated in the very heart of the Champagne region close to the Touristic Route, Reims and other attractions in the area. You get beautiful views from the hotel as it is quite high. The room we got was small but nice, the service friendly and it was good value for the money. The breakfast was substantial, we especially liked the fresh orange juice press. We had a rented car so it was very convenient and lots of parking space. It could be difficult with public transport though. There is a SPA next to the hotel but we had no time to use it as there were so many things to see around.

"Would have been fine had we not eaten there"
Maynard1, 26 Juin 2016

We had a wonderful room with a balcony overlooking the valley (and a full moon). Although the room was small, it was clean and adequate. There is an elevator and a nice outside patio area and upstairs pool. We decided to eat there since we had been driving all day. There was only one waiter and the front desk person had to jump in occasionally to help out. This waiter was the only time we encountered snobbish behavior on our entire 3 week trip. The waiter was upset that my daughter had to leave because of a migraine and he didn't want to wrap up her meal to go. His attempt to cut up a steak from the bone with a spoon and dull knife bordered on the ridiculous. He kept us waiting far longer than the French patrons and didn't really like my use of French. I tried. The meal was very expensive, a 20% tip was added. Iit really ruined a good Father's Day. That said, the front desk personnel in the evening and morning were exceptional and very helpful. The location is nice and it is a good place to stay.. just not to eat.

"Perfect location, wonderful staff, great value for money!"
shaggyparis, 16 Mai 2016

We would be VERY HAPPY to return one day! During May 13-15, 2016, we used this hotel as a base for our exploration of the WWI battlefields in the vicinity of Chateau Thierry. The hotel is conveniently located to Chateau Thierry town, and to all of the major monuments in the area, not far from the main highway, A4. It is on a hillside with a gorgeous view of the valley below. Plenty of secure parking. Our room was clean, bright, and quiet. Hotel has a very comfortable bar / seating area. The breakfast offered a variety of cereals, breads, meat and cheese, yogurt, scrambled and soft boiled eggs, pastries, and very good coffee. The staff was exceptionally professional, friendly, and positive. All were very engaged with the guests. Our room was a bit warm, even in May, but the hotel has fans available at no charge.

"Average chain hotel brand managed independently"
Bernoise, 22 Mars 2016

One night stay in a superior room , large bed in a room too small for it really. Compact shower room with separate toilet all of which was adequate. Toilet cubicle does have many pipes from upstairs , next door etc . My advice is keep this door closed so that you are less aware of other neighbouring rooms bathroom usage. Keep shutters closed at night , we were in 108 facing the road and there are numerous lorries up and down through night and early hours. Restaurant on the evening only offers gastronomique menu which wouldn't suit all palates. The alternative is room service ! There is an alternative at lunchtime though. Chipped wine glass shows a lack of attention to detail. Breakfast is an excellent array of choices. Shame it wasn't replenished to satisfy the guests numbers and many used tables not cleared for the duration of our breakfast . Chipped crockery again at breakfast which is inexcusable . Cleaning habits of waiter led a lot to be desired. Discussed these with duty manager on checkout and by email to the Manager M Desplanques. Both were only mildly interested in my comments/observations sadly , so it won't be on my list to return and I will be reluctant to trust the best western brand in future as they are independently managed. Great very grand looking hotel which didn't have the expected service level. Good facilities although access is via the corridor room 108 was on so there is traffic back and forth outside room door. On the plus Beautiful views across the chateau Thierry valley And Dogs allowed even our BMDs which was good.

"Great views and meals"
snootycoot, 12 Mars 2016

We stayed here for 3 days on business. It's Europe so expect smaller rooms so this wasn't a surprise. Rooms are clean, showers are interestingly different. The restaurant was excellent and the breakfast has a lot of choices. We will definitely stay here again. Views of the valley are great, close to Pannier champagne caverns. Spend some time at the American cemetery and monuments close by.

"Great place for a break"
SUB999, 09 Décembre 2015

I stopped here on a business trip with my son, booked the previous evening on the off chance. Bedrooms were very comfortable, not overly modern but French in style. Dinner was good, as was the breakfast. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The view from the hotel us amazing as it is situated on a hill.

"Nice hotel and comfortable room"
HistMarine, 12 Novembre 2015

I stayed here in November, 2015. The exterior of the hotel is very nice, and the grounds looked well kept. The room wasn't bad, but the bathroom had a little bit of mold. The restaurant was pretty good, and although I am not a huge fan of French cuisine i thought the lamb shank was very good. The service is good although their English isn't the best but you can get by. It is hard to reach if you don't have a car, just be sure to find a cab at the train station. I would certainly recommend this hotel.

"Excellent hotel"
Stephane V, 29 Septembre 2015

Good location with nice views of the valley and park. Food in restaurant was excellent. Good spa facilities in the hotel. Staff in reception very friendly and helpful. I would recommend hotel to friends and family

"Fawlty Towers without the funny bits"
Bidtaker, 26 Septembre 2015

The exterior is impressive and much of the interior if a bit tired in places but the level of service leaves so much to be desired. On arrival I was asked if I wanted to make a reservation for the dining room and did but when I turned up at the time booked I was told that there was not a reservation for me. With reluctance I was given a table but told i would have to eat quickly as they had other reservations!!! . Food was passable but certainly not up to the standard that they claim for themselves. The bedroom was comfortable, clean and quiet but when I arrived down for breakfast service had not improved, coffee machine not working, orange juicing machine not working, very limited selection of breads etc.on the buffet and some selection had run out and it was apparent that they were not going to be re-stocked, certainly not worth €13 and only one member of staff on duty. The worst was when I went to check out, 30 minutes while the single member of staff dealt with 3 customers !! Customer service is not a priority here. The attitude of staff and management is among the unprofessional I have encountered ever in a hotel. Poor wifi throughout. I would not stay here again for free.

"very good ......."
Mauro i, 17 Septembre 2015

i have been in this hotel a few years ago, and i did remember it like a normal hotel...... now , during my last visit in Chateau Thierry, i have aprecieted very much everithings as concerned......bedroom....food.....ospitality as well congratulations.....to everybody

"Not an ordinary Best Western"
frtravler, 10 Septembre 2015

The exterior and the interior are lovely- more like a chateau than a hotel. The view is terrific. If you don't have a car, tho hotel is not for you- it is not near the town. The Wifi is awful, awful, awful. It cuts out constantly and is super slow. If good connection is important, don't stay in this hotel. The breakfast is ample, however even by 8 am the hot water egg cooker was not on, and who wants to wait 20 minutes for it to be hot enough to cook an egg. Wish I had better things to say.

"Stayed one night"
Bizzy6, 06 Septembre 2015

We stopped off here for one night to break our journey home. The hotel is outside the town, overlooking the valley and very close to the motorway. The house has obviously seen better days, decor and fittings are a little tired and dated, but everything was clean and of a good standard. We ate dinner in the restaurant where the taste and quality did not really live up to the beautiful presentation of the food - especially the vegetables were shrivelled up and dried to the plate as if they had been in the microwave too long. The service was efficient if a little curt, but that might have been the language barrier. The breakfast buffet was varied an fresh and my only real complaint was that the water for the tea - which came out of the coffee machine - was not very hot.

"Nice overnight stay"
Cheryl066, 03 Septembre 2015

Nice overnight stay. Rooms clean and good size and lovely views over the town. We booked a meal in the restaurant and were amazed how good the food was. Good choice of menus and a good wine list. Staff were very helpful.

"Very nice country hotel with great food"
mrancer, 26 Août 2015

This hotel is in a beautiful location on top of a hill overlooking the small city of Chateau-Thierry. Although only a few of the staff speak passable English (and I only have some phrasebook French), the service is wonderful. The staff make every effort to meet the guests' needs, and the room rate is very reasonable (especially with the euro at $1.11 during our visit). Our room was somewhat small, and the armoire (used instead of a closet in many French hotels) took up a good chunk of the available space, but we had enough room to meet our needs. Similarly, the toilet is in a tiny separate room from the sink and shower. It's a convenient arrangement but in the dark in the middle of the night it's hard not to bang into walls and fixtures when using the toilet. The weather was quite warm while we were there and we wanted to leave the window open at night to cool off the room. Unfortunately with a room at the front of the building there is quite a bit of road noise (the road leads to the nearby freeway) and having just arrived (jet-lagged) we didn't sleep as well as we would have liked. The shower is very good with great pressure and an adjustable head, but I should note that it leaks out onto the bathroom floor through a poorly sealed shower wall. One minor complaint I have is that the elevator is not at ground level. It's necessary to carry your luggage up about a half dozen steps to get to the elevator, a bit of a burden if your luggage has any weight to it. I should also add, on the positive side, that the hotel has a pool and spa. We didn't have time to use them (the pool closes at 7pm) but they looked very inviting. But if the room wasn't great, the food more than made up for it. Not only the breakfast buffet with a large range of breads, meats, eggs and cheeses (especially the cheeses!), but we loved the automatic orange juicer. It has a basket of oranges at the top - push the button and it loads an orange, splits it, positions it and squeezes it in seconds for fresh juice. The hotel also has a restaurant where we had dinner both nights. A great menu with a range of choices, reasonable prices, fabulous preparation and a wait staff who attend to every need or question (as best they can given the language barrier between us). Chateau-Thierry is not a destination most Americans end up in, even though it is the location of major American military action during World War I. I chose it for us just because it was an hour from the airport - we landed, rented the car and wanted to get out into the countryside as soon as possible without having to drive a lot the first afternoon. But if you find yourself in Chateau-Thierry, I highly recommend this lovely country hotel.

"American standard with French style"
Paul G, 30 Juillet 2015

After a week of tiny sterile rooms at various French hotel, the Best Western Chateau Thierry was a welcome relief. The hotel is a beautiful chateau-looking estate overlooking the city. The rooms are stylish and a bit more roomy than the French norm. Staff was first-rate. Restaurant is pricey but truly gourmet. Breakfast was above average for France. Watching the fresh-squeezed OJ machine operate was a hoot! This is where I would stay again if I was anywhere near Chateau Thierry.

"lovely stay but location a bit far from town"
hallij, 20 Juillet 2015

We stayed overnight here driving back from the South. The hotel has excellent views but it is out of town should you want to walk around there. The room was at the front of the hotel overlooking the valley. It was a bit small but the room appeared to have been decorated not that long ago , the bathroom is in need of refurb . However it was very clean and comfortable for what we needed. The internet is slow but not that important to us. We ate in the restaurant which the food, service and presentation were of a very high standard and would recommend. Breakfast was fine but nothing outstanding. would probably not stay again as only would want to be nearer town.

"Hotel is in need of renovation and WiFi is horrible."
kathAtlanta_GA, 07 Juillet 2015

This hotel is in a good location for visiting WWI memorials and is a few miles from center of city. We stayed there one night as opposed to going to an airport hotel near CDG and it worked out fine. Lucky for us the record heat wave broke the day we got there as there is no air conditioning. Staff was friendly and helpful. WIFi is basically non existent - could log in but it cut you off every time you switched pages or applications. Very frustrating as we were trying to check in online for our flight. The rooms are very outdated and in serious need of renovation. Wallpaper was peeling off the wall and carpet looks very stained and ragged. Bathroom is more modern and adequate. Our breakfast (paid) was okay but hot food was not good.

"Old hotel. Renovation needed."
ibelenkov, 26 Juin 2015

Old hotel. Renovation needed. First day internet not working, on the second day it is working but very slow and time after time only. Breakfast was cold. All in hotel are very old. In Jacuzzi some jets are not working. After cleaning I don't have any tea or coffe in my room. Reception was closed after 23.00, I has received telephone call during driving about 22.50, that I need to know code to enter to Hotel ... after that I needed to stop (on the highway) to write the code (they can't send it by mail or sms???). Only good view from window was good. Before I had experience with BW hotel in Casablanca, it was much better!

"Really enjoyed our stay"
Adrian M, 29 Juillet 2014

Lovely Hotel, easy to find, staff helpful, room a good size with balcony. Would stay again, thank you the staff for making us welcome. Good parking ( free) the pool looked nice but did not get a chance to use it. next time. Everything required for a good stay. Its a pretty hotel as well. We had the breakfast ( included) which was very good.

"Elegant Building and Furnishings"
wandererBracknell, 22 Juillet 2014

Reception was welcoming, helpful, and brisk. Our first floor room and balcony overlooking the town- nice view. It was a little further out of town than we thought, so had a 'blow out' in the restaurant. Excellent food, service, in opulent surroundings. Very powerful and free Wi-Fi in the room. Comfy bed. Separate toilet and bathroom in our room. No air-con, but asked for a fan. Very quiet in the hotel, but some traffic noise in the morning ( Hotel is situated on a hill not far from the main road). Nice bar. Also a brasserie which we didn't use, for smaller meals. Good spread for breakfast-including small hot buffet. Overall, quite satisfying. Very handy location for visiting the local WW1 sites such as Hill 204, and Belleau Wood, around 10 kms away.
