    « So-so air on, diabolical internet »

We have used this hotel in Bayreuth on at least 10 occasions when we have had tickets for the Bayreuth Festival - it used to be the only hotel close to or in Bayreuth with any airconditioning. This year when we arrived I was told that I had booked two rooms with no airconditioning - after some debate my husband and I were moved to a suite for the first night - bizarrely this only had AirCon in the lounge but not in the bedroom. Our kids boiled in their room. For the next 3 nights we all moved into standard rooms with airconditioning - this at least seemed to work. The rooms are a ridiculous price but during the festival there are not enough rooms in Bayreuth to meet demand so it is definitely a sellers market. The prices are better "out of season". Breakfast is okay - they do a fantastic Bircher Muesli - well worth taking the free recipe away. This year they had decided to switch off all the minibars in the rooms on environmental grounds - if you wanted a drink in your room you were forced to use the vending machine in the lobby - more like a 2 star motel experience than a 4 star hotel - probably symptomatic of the German mania for green innovations as this was not the only hotel on our trip with the same issue. On check in we were told that the Internet had been upgraded. Unfortunately this still meant having to collect a log in ticket from Reception which only lasted a maximum of 5 hours. Our children were having to make repeated trips to get new tickets. Coverage for WiFi was so poor that moving around the bedroom could result in instant disconnection. Again we would expect something more reliable than this - the WiFi in this hotel has been a weakness for years. On previous trips we would have to move our laptop to the bedroom door to get a connection.

« No aircon in smoking room and internet (duration) issues »

The smoking room booked had no aircon - and this was not announced - so due to warm weather, the window had to be open - and the nearby motorway is very noisy. The duration of the internet is 5 hours so you had to go down to the reception in the morning to collect a new one.

« Typical Best Western Hotel »

Just stayed here for one night while traveling from north to south. It's a typical Best Western Hotel - means basically ok but a little bit runned down. Somehow this chain does not like to invest a lot of money in refurbishment. But the staff is extremely friendly and also the food in the hotel restaurant is very good. There is even a small outside area for eating. But this side of the hotel is a bit noisy as this is facing to the highway. Also for the rooms I would ask for a room on the backside for the same reason.

« Will certainly go back »

I stayed at this hotel on my last trip to the Wagner opera festival in Bayreuth in 2009, mainly because by the time I had my tickets there were no hotels available in the town. Being some 3 Km 0outside Bayreuth was an inconvenience, not least because the bus service was minimal, meaning that we had to get cabs back and forth. At the time we were told that we had to be charged for a round trip, as there was no chance of picking a fare on the return journey. Since then a lot of industry has invaded Bindlach, resulting in the cab fares now only being charged one way ? a much happier solution. The hotel is excellent and probably has the best breakfast I have ever encountered while travelling. While there is no air conditioning, the rooms are comfortable and the bathroom has enough shelf space for all the toiletries. On the day of arrival, we had a late lunch before going to the opera and that was fresh cooked, served quickly and with a cheerful smile. All the staff speak English, varying from basic to full conversation and nothing seems to be too much trouble. A BIG bonus is that the bedroom doors all seem to close quietly ? no slamming, so no being woken at the wrong time due to someone else's lack of consideration. If I get opera tickets again, I shall certainly try and get a room here.

    « Value for money »

The hotel is out of the city center. Therefor easily reachable and easy (free) parking. Very friendly personel. Good sauna. Customer Oriented. Good Value for money. Rooms are simple but clean. Very Well sound isolated. I stayed heer very often and never had a complaint.

« Pleasant Lobby, Nice Staff, Good Food »

The title being said, we would not stay here again. Yes the lobby was pleasant, we enjoyed both the dining room and the restaurant. The staff were also very good. The rooms, however, seemed more like a converted barracks than a hotel.
