« Right on Ocean/Boardwalk - View of Holiday Lights »

My favorite part of my stay was my ocean view and immediate access to the ocean/boardwalk. I could hear the ocean from my room even with the patio door closed. I was able to enjoy the holiday lights from my room and I had easy access to walk up and down the boardwalk- fantastic! The staff was friendly, delightful and helpful. Negatives: * Returned to room one afternoon to a bad odor in my room and outside my doorway/hallway. Others in my area had issues as well. It was immediately attended to. * After booking my nightly rate on Travelzoo. I found it ten dollars cheaper a night on another site. I should have pursued a matching request for the lower price.

    « Great Value!! »

We enjoyed our stay so much we stayed an extra day. Booked two rooms, both had beach view. Indoor pool was great, the breakfast buffet was fantastic!! Staff is best I have ever seen, very friendly, very helpful, always smiling and ready to help with any needs. I have to give a special thanks to Delvon at the front desk. He helped us out a couple times and made us feel like we were the only people in the hotel, great man!! Thank you Delvon, you helped make our Thanksgiving weekend even better! Highly recommend Best Western Plus Sandcastle Beachfront Hotel!

    « Amazing Customer Service »

I was greeted by the front desk girls (Angie and Brittany) with smiles. I was staying in a 1 bedroom, no balcony and they wanted me to make sure I was alright without the balcony before going all the way up to the 9th floor and getting upset. I was perfectly fine without it, just wanted to sleep:) I go up to my room and a man was up there waiting for me at the end of the hall and introduced himself as Alfonzo the maintenance/electrician. He told me the heat wasn't working in that room and I was being upgraded. It was right near my other room. It was an unbelievable free upgrade to a beautiful King size jacuzzi suite!!!! It was AMAZING! I had such a relaxing night. Jacuzzi, overlooking the beach at night with the Christmas lights/decorations on the beach, and slept like a baby in my king size bed:) ?? Now I'm off to ear breakfast at the buffet on the 2nd floor. I highly recommend this place. Clean, comfortable, perfect location and wonderful staff.

« Very good hotel, great bfast, friendly staff »

Check in staff was nice. We got 2 queen beds oceanfront view for $70 in orbitz. We got a room at the 5th floor so we thought we would park at the 5th level but their gate access is broke so we had to walk down to the 4th to get in. Then we had to take elevator to go to our room. And there were teenagers or young people playing their sound so noisily at the rooftop or 5th floor parking too. The hallway carpet needs replacement or upgrade. But as we got into our room we are pleased. It is clean, decent sized. Bathtub or shower looks good and clean. The beds look and smell clean. And we had an ocean view which you can appreciate during the day. They have an indoor pool and tub which we did not try bec we didnt have time and we forgot our suits. The breakfast is excellent. Kudos to the chef. They also have a varied selection. Check out was a lot easier. We forgot my dress shoes and before we drove off, the cleaning lady (she told us on our way out which way is to the parking garage) caught us at the parking lot and gave them to us. Thanks Michelle.

We checked into this hotel with no problems, the room was nice and clean. The only problem we had was at the bar with service. We waited a long time for someone to help us there. The pool was nice for the kids because it was heated and indoor. Pretty good visit. I would recommend this hotel to others.

    « Comfortable »

Staff very attentive, and beds very comfy. There were plenty of options for breakfast including hot food on the buffet counter. One thing though, the corridors are very very cold. We also got stuck in the elevator which was a first.

« Not worth the effort. »

Outward appearance, good. Reception staff good. Room tired, no hot water, poor air con. Breakfast very poor worst of the several B/W we stayed in on this trip. The adjoining restaurant was not what I would expect in a B/W hotel. More like a bar diner and not a very good one at that. Staff not very attentive. Not only was this poorest quality B/W we stayed in it was also the most expensive. I will not return here unless I hear it has had a make over.

« First time there and very pleased »

My fiancé and I selected this hotel as the "go to" hotel for out of town guests for our wedding; we also stayed there. From the first moment we spoke with Jan and encountered many staff members, it was evident this was the place to stay to feel welcome! The rooms were comfortable, Oceans 14 was a great gathering place, and the location of the hotel was spot on. Cannot impress enough how kind and helpful the staff was!

    3
    « Convenient »

This is an older motel but convenient for what we wanted to do, and places we wanted to visit. Our room was somewhat small, especially the bathroom. Staff was friendly and helpful and the motel was clean.

As usual, I give this location a 100% grading. As my previous review stated on this location in June 2016, you will not be sorry you stayed here. All staff, were very professional, rooms are up to date in decor, clean and a very good breakfast buffet. Pricing is very reasonable for the same types of other hotels. I wish you sweet dreams at this location.

« Great location overlooking beach and pier »

Stayed a couple nights in November at this hotel on the beach. Great location on the boardwalk near the 14th Street pier and amusement park on Atlantic Avenue. Virginia Beach Veterans Day Parade staged outside hotel so great location for viewing parade. (Staff did excellent job of notifying about street closures.) Hotel shows its age but also has a number of updates - wifi, electronic room locks. Attached 5-level parking garage is convenient with entries directly into hotel room corridors near elevators. My room was directly across from the elevator on a higher floor, so there was some unavoidable noise with guest traffic but not too bothersome in the off-season. Elevators show their age, being a bit slow. King bed room was nice size and mostly clean; some dust/sand around floor lamps, furniture that may be inevitable on the beach. Great view of the beach from balcony and chairs available for sitting. In-room safe suitable for small items (about paper sized, not 15+ inch laptop) in the short wardrobe that requires slacks to be draped over hangers instead of hanging. Some inter-room sounds but did not affect sleep or other activities. Staff were friendly, check-in and out were efficient. Breakfast was OK; layout in the service room had hot items scattered throughout including biscuits and gravy by the juices & coffee in the corner, self-make pancakes across the room, and hot meats/potatoes near the entrance door - makes guest movements a bit awkward. There is additional seating in lobby suitable for breakfast. Overall a good stay and would stay again if in the area.

    « Excellent »

We checked in on Saturday evening. The staff was extremely fun and friendly. Helpful with finding restaurant recommendations. We had an excellent room, convienent to the elevator and parking and of course the view was spectacular. I would definitely recommend and stay again. The staff and the hotel was great.

    « Fantastic »

I sincerely believe that new employees who are in training for any level of management should have to work at this location for at least a week. This way they can see the way things should really be done. It is a rare thing to find such efficient and courteous employees. The way that they treat their guest one would think that every employee there gets commission on each and every booked room. Thank you for such a splendid stay.

« Outstanding service plus great value »

My husband and I checked in on evening of Nov. 3. The ladies at the reception were accommodating friendly and quick. They told us about the on site facilities and local area so we could explore. Hotel is located right on boardwalk in middle of action but stay was quiet and restful. The room was very comfortable. In the morning, we ate breakfast that came with the room which was full of options for picky me and my picky toddler. We met Jim and his staff Edward, Nadarius, and Maria. They were happy, informative and kept breakfast area loaded. It was clear they enjoyed working here and went out of their way to make sure guest needs were met and then some. Will go back if in the area due to the awesome people working there.

« Stay here any time as long as it's not a holiday. »

Everything about the hotel was great, particularly the staff in the breakfast area. They were so friendly, happy, and genuinely concerned that everyone enjoyed the breakfast. I had only one issue. But it was a big one. The street was closed on the last Saturday in October. There was a 10k run / Halloween parade. I wasn't told the street would be closed when I made the reservation. I wasn't told when I checked in. I wasn't told at any time. On Saturday, I drove my rental car down to the street and there was a car in front of me that wasn't going anywhere. I was in Virginia for a course through CAI in Chesapeake but decided to stay on the beach and drive over because it's not so far and not a bad drive. I spent about $2300 for the flight, air fare, the rental car, the hotel, and the course. Saturday was the day of the exam. I went in to the lobby to see how long this was going to continue. I was told that the street would be closed until long after my exam was over. So, I had to get the person in front of me to move their car enough so I could get by to park by the front door of the hotel, and take a taxi over to Chesapeake. I paid $116 to get to and from Chesapeake and was lucky that I was allowed to take the test at all. The hotel did take $50 off my bill. So I had to cough up $66 (not sure how they figured that should be on me, but whatever). The stress was just not what I would have dealt with had I been forewarned. Even if they had put a notice on the doors after I had already committed to the reservation and checked in, I could at least have known ahead of time and made arrangements. Maybe I could have parked my car half a block away ahead of time so I could just walk to it and not had the last minute frustration immediately before an exam that was a pretty big deal to me.

« Happy Happy once again »

I had another trip to VB for family related reasons and thought I would give the Best Western Sandcastle my business again as I have been very happy & pleased with the value of the hotel in the past. Once again I have rave reviews and positive experiences with this hotel. It is and has been clean everywhere including the Bathroom & Lobby areas which is key to me as a traveler. The breakfast area changed since my last visit (now on the 2nd floor versus a neighboring restaurant) but the kids and I found plenty (waffles/muffins, bacon and sausage options) to choose from. They even have some sort of pancake station that I am eager to try next time. Like my last visit, all staff were friendly, busy and engaged in their job duties and just doing stuff to better the hotel. Keep up the good work and I will gladly keep providing my business. You had me at the Keurig in the room and really had me with the Newman's K cups even further. What a treat.

« A quality hotel in an outstanding location! »

The Best Western Plus Sandcastle Beachfront Hotel in Virginia Beach is one of the areas best bargains. From the excellent staff to a simply outstanding location, where all rooms overlook the beach and Atlantic Ocean. it will be our "go to" place when we visit Virginia Beach in the future. The room was clean, though with a somewhat small bath, but then, one doesn't go to Virginia Beach to stay in the room! There is a great buffet breakfast, Oceans 14 Restaurant attached to the hotel is new and exciting. The lobby is spacious, there is on premises covered parking and again, location, location, location.

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Best Western and enjoyed our ocean view room overlooking the boardwalk. The staff were courteous and friendly. The accommodations were comfortable. Thank for making our trip enjoyable.

    « Great location »

We visited in early October so the area was a little more quiet. I had requested early check in (on a monday) and when we arrived our room was not ready so we were given a parking pass and told by the front desk personnel we would receive a call to let us know when our room was ready, we were never called. I would have rather been told that the room was not going to be ready early. But we made the best of it and walked the boardwalk and stopped in a few shops. Our room was on the 9th floor, it was great for privacy. However, one of the elevators was being serviced so the one elevator was very slow and we had to wait awhile for it - the stairs don't go up that high. The jets flying over were also very loud, might have not been so noticeable on a lower level? Overall the room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was underwhelming. Great if you like steamed eggs and overcooked bacon. I have had better breakfast buffets at other hotels. I would recommend staying here if you want to be close to the beach and the boardwalk.

« Horrified Service During Checking In »

I have never experience what I have experience October 21, 2016. One of my rooms were cancel without any notification a day before we arrived. It took an hour before things gotten straighten out, which never did. My husband and I always stay and Sandcastle at Virginia Beach but this weekend was a disaster, and we will never stay again, but the reason we stayed this weekend, was because of my parents and I wanted to make sure that they have a good time and they did regardless of the situation. I am still upset, because I can't describe how we was treated and it was down right upsetting. You would think that staff generosity would be the main priority making sure guest is comfortable, and happy but it was not the case. Reservation was make for two rooms. On October 21, were the day we arrive and all hell broke loose because we didn't have a clue that one of our rooms was cancel for no apparent reason. Was told that only one room was paid for, so I had to go pull up my bank statement on line to show proof about the payment that were made on both rooms, but they still wanted my husband and I to make another payment because of the mistake they made in cancelling our second room without any confirmation notice. Because of the hotel mistake we should have been treated with dignity and respect because everything was paid for before our arrival and we always made sure of that every time we have stayed at this hotel, which is twice every year. My parents happiness were my priority, my dad being 86 of age, and my mom 74 of age was all I was thinking about so we stayed because that's all they talked about for two months was they are going to beach, but I will never forget how we was treated because of someone mistake, but that will not keep us from Virginia Beach we just have to find us another hotel to stay in, but you best believe God don't like ugliness! « Great price, great locateo »

After booking this hotel, I was a bit nervous because the rate was so reasonable for a beachfront hotel. Such wasted energy: yes, it's affordable but nothing is compromised. The location is amazing _ closest hotel to the pier _ and the amenities are great _ love the indoor pool and wonderful breakfast. Our room was comfortable, clean, and quiet. Overall, great hotel for great price!

    « 9 and 3/4 penthouse review »

When we got into the hotel, nice main areas and great location on the beach, quite centrally located. The tarnish came when we ended up in a converted utility room on the roof that we had to climb a flight of stairs to get to from the top floor. Stay away from room 914 The room wasnt bad just uninspiring with no balcony and very little view. What turned this from 2 to 3 stars is the hotel restaurant. A casual affair that offered some great fare, albeit a bit pricey. The Sandcastle has mostly its location going for it and the regular rooms may be much more comfortable with the balcony and view, but I am not sure I would be willing to try this one again. We may try the other Best Western next time to see what it offers.

« We really like this hotel! »

The room and view were beautiful. The restaurants were good, tasty food and drinks for a decent price and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. It was smooth everyday! We will be back!

    « Great Staff. »

The staff was very helpful, and friendly; especially the housekeeping ladies. We enjoyed our stay very much, and look forward to returning. Great location with ocean front views and easy access to beach and boardwalk. Enjoyed a great meal at on site the Italian Restaurant. There is also a Bar/Restaurant located in the building as well.

    « Best Western review »

Facility is outdated. Staff are all young. Room had a large hole in the door to the outside balcony where there used to be a dead bolt causing cold air to constantly seep into the room. Coffee pot was there, but only one coffee pod and no creamer or sugar supplied. A couple of beetles were found in the room flying around. Breakfast was marginal. Sausage floating in grease. Eggs appeared to be sitting out for awhile. Muffins looked like you just opened up a box of Little Debbies. When I mentioned it to the check out clerk...again the staff are all young, she did not appear to be concerned, except I think she did right down to repair the hole in the door to the balcony. For $139 a night, I expect more.

    « Not A Bad Place »

Should put a little more effort into the amenities, but overall it was not a bad stay. Room was good, elevators were horrendous for slow season. All in all I would recommend this hotel again and definitely stay

« Motel Status at 4 Star Hotel Prices... »

After 3 years of visiting this hotel we are finally done hoping it will get better. The first year we had a blast and very favorable memories, but now it's turning into a low budget motel at $300 a night. Elevator broken numerous visits that were months apart from each other. Breakfast is give or take, you never know... Better off eating at a local breakfast place. This visit we used our points for a room and was given a small, dirty, hot and stuffy room. We got refused the king bed I reserved and instead got 2 full beds. Who wants a smaller bed than your own on vacation??? Bathroom was dirty and not functioning right. Bed linen was dirty and had stains. Paint peeling off walls. I can keep going but I think the above it bad enough...

    2
« Not worth the money »

Hotel had some cosmetic upgrades, but they were not enough to complete the facelift that is needed. The carpets smelled musty, lobby furniture was tired and worn out. Breakfast was NOT hot, except for the sausages. Eggs and waffles were all cold - the butter didn't melt on them. The danishes and muffins were not appetizing. We went to Dunkin Donuts instead. Website advertised $84 but we were charged $140 - NOT A GOOD VALUE for the money. We won't be back to this chain.

    « Best location »

Stayed for the Neptune Festival! This hotel is a great location right next to the pier and the live bands were playing on grass below. We could either enjoy the breeze & music or close the door and have silence. We were delighted to be able to watch several pods of dolphins jumping in the ocean one morning as we sat on our patio having coffee. Free covered parking & free hot breakfast and two well stocked gift shops adjacent to lobby. Only downside was the room was a little small/ narrower than typical hotels (but I understand ocean views do come at sacrifice) - highly recommend!

    3
« Basic hotel with great view »

With this hotel you're paying for the direct ocean view and boardwalk location. But... it's an older building with low ceilings, noisy inefficient a/c units, small bathrooms, and subpar breakfast. Most employees friendly and helpful. While there, one of the two passenger elevators was out of service (we were told it had been for weeks) but maintenance and cleaning crews used that elevator as well, causing long waits, even though we then found out a service elevator was also available.

Location can't be beaten! +On the beach and next to the boardwalk and pier. +Grassy area between hotel & beach +Adjacent to walking & Bike paths +Lots of restaurants and shopping within walking distance +Room overlooking ocean for dramatic sunrises +Comfortable beds +Generous supply of fluffy white towels -Corridors & elevators were dirty Three stars=average rating. An economical hotel. The beds were comfortable and the room had all we needed. Loved the view from our 5th floor room. Brittani at front desk handled our reservation by phone and our check-in. She was courteous, friendly and efficient!

    « Neptune Festival 2016 »

i have stayed at the Sandcastle Hotel for the last 10 Neptune Festivals. The hotel is always clean and the staff is friendly and willing to help with any request. The only complaint is the that the elevators always seem to be broken.

« Great hotel on the boardwalk »

Quite pleased with our experience...we had an ocean view king size room with refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. WIFI was free but rather slow. This hotel has two restaurants. The Italian one was empty and we should have realized why. Meatball subs were ok. The second night we tried Pier 14 and although the menu was rather limited, the service was good and the food great. All hotel staff were extremely friendly and eager to help. Also was pleased to get parking in their parking garage with elevator access

    « Great Place! »

Our experience from the time we pulled into the parking lot until when we checked out was great. The staff made us feel welcome. (Betty, Olivia, Shaun, Vanessa) The location is perfect. One morning we watched dolphins from our balcony. You are in walking distance to great food or you can order food to be delivered. Roma's delivered hot and good food. We have stayed there numerous times over the years and have never been disappointed. We plan on returning in the spring.

« AMAZING STAY - THANK YOU ANGIE BRYANT »

My fiancé and I decided last minute to come down to VA Beach for a little alone time on a quiet Tuesday night! We had no idea where we were going to stay so we stopped by Best Western to check prices when we met ANGIE BRYANT, I actually made my mind up right then that I was going to stay here after I had a wonderful talk with her, she is extremely sweet and polite and was helpful with more then I could thank her for! She made our stay one to remember and if she isn't the manager already then she SHOULD BE because I've never met someone so motivated and just outright kind. She is the kind of person that any business would be blessed to have and that's extremely hard to find these days. She made sure we had everything we needed and she made me feel right at home and that's something that is hard to do for people as picky as us. I would definitely recommend this hotel and the view is just outright beautiful, right above the pier! Thank you Best Western and thank you Angie for making this trip one for the books! ??????????

« Very nice and accomodating! »

This was a very pleasant hotel with nice staff, clean rooms and wonderful access to the beach and pier and surrounding shops. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to plan a trip to VA Beach! We did not use the pool, but peeked in and thought it was neat and clean. Breakfast was very good and the staff kept everything filled and hot. The beach shop below had a nice assortment of beach toys, clothes and apparel for the whole family.

    « Not a Top 10 hotel! »

Well, my Trip Advisor folks very rarely let me down. However, this time they did. I read all the reviews before I booked this hotel and I expected MUCH more. Folks, this is an "old and tired" hotel. From the outward appearance, to the narrow parking garage, to the dingy hallways, the the VERY slow elevators, to the "cafeteria" looking restaurant and the free breakfast located in a conference room, this place is just old. Mind you, the staff was helpful, but even great staff can't get me past the building itself. One very positive note, it hotel is situated in a great location along the oceanfront. Fewer folks venture south of the pier, so the beach was less crowded, but that's the only good thing I can say. Way too many options in VB to pay the rates that this place is getting. Don't stay here!

    « Staff friendly & helpful »

The employees went out of there way to make us feel welcome. We were there during a tropical storm & even though they were battling water problems, the staff was always friendly and courteous. Everyday when we came out of our room ,the cleaning girl said hello ,how are we doing ;when she cleaned our room , she did a very good job. The employees at the check in counter were very helpful about where to eat and places to go.We enjoyed our visit even though the weather was bad.

« On the beach, great views. »

An older hotel that's kept clean, freshly painted with a nice staff. Rooms are a little small as a older place would be. A small price to pay for a good location. The attached restaurants stink and need a good going over. They are not part of the hotel per say, but they need to kick it up a couple notches. Parking garage is ok. The only issue with Va beach, is Va beach. After you leave the main beach block, its dead and pretty gritty. The taxes are high on everything and there is no big capitol investment going on. There was a hotel site across the street that had been torn down some time ago and is an eye sore, trashy and over grown. If that was Jersey there would have been new development there quickly. Our room wasn't that expensive, but the taxes were excessive. Shame great beach. Waters great.

    3
    « Overpriced »

Upon arrival I was very impressed; beautiful, upscale lobby. On the walk to our room, I noticed how dirty the carpet was, a broken up chip and other debris. As soon as we opened the door to our room, our first thought was how odd the layout was. The bathroom was huge, but the sink stood by itself (absolutely no room whatsoever for a toothbrush or any other cosmetic item). I couldn't believe there wasn't a hair dryer in the room! The room was clean, except for a crusty booger over the bathroom light switch, and toothpaste spit on the wall by the sink. It felt like they slapped some paint over an old building; there were cracks in the ceiling, and you could tell the building itself was worn down. I don't want to think about the parking garage in the summertime, we had a hard enough time going around corners without hitting cars in the off season. Staff was excellent, didn't walk by a single person who didn't stop and speak or hold the door. I would definitely stay again if the price range was more towards $90 a night. I can't believe I spent $315 for 2 nights.

« Staying here could be a risk to your safety and security »

This is a very difficult review to write, since I gave it a ?poor? rating with it being truly a very excellent hotel, up until check out. I will explain my reasons for this later in my review. Upon entering our room, we discovered about 10-20 mosquitoes on the walls and ceiling of the room, which my wife promptly killed. We brought this to the desk clerk's attention and she inspected the room with us. She felt that a previous guest may have left the balcony door open overnight. This could possibly be the reason. They moved us down the hall a few rooms and this room was mosquito free. The hotel has been completely refurbished since my last visit in 2011, inside and out. I can't say anything negative about the accommodations. The room was very clean with an excellent view from the 9th floor balcony. The location was perfect, overlooking the fishing pier with an awesome view of the ocean. Dolphins love to play out by the pier and we got to see them numerous times. The bed was extremely comfortable with a top notch mattress and plenty of pillows. This is very important to me as there is nothing that can ruin a vacation like waking up with a sore back from a low quality mattress. The bathroom was spotless and the shower had excellent water pressure with plenty of hot water every day of our stay. Each day of our stay, housekeeping did an excellent job of cleaning our room, replenishing towels, toiletries, etc. Hotel staff was very helpful and friendly, answering all questions and had an all around pleasant attitude. The lobby was spotless, as were all areas of the hotel. The Ocean 14 Restaurant has excellent food at reasonable prices. The fitness room had a good variety of equipment, although a little cold from the A/C. The pool was slightly cloudy from the guests that were in it and probably didn't know where the bathrooms were, but I have found this is the case in most hotels. The breakfast is low quality food, but free. We only partook once. The elevators were slightly slow but reliable. The on-site parking was adequate although our stay was off-season. Now for the reason I give this hotel a low rating. During our stay we noticed papers sticking out from various guest room doors as we walked past. We just assumed they were some kind of advertisement, such as the papers found on car windshields occasionally. We found out differently the day we checked out. The paper was our receipt with ALL of our information on it. Name?Home address?Telephone number?.Everything someone would need to know that there is a house VACANT AND JUST WAITING TO BE BURGLARIZED! This wasn't the end of our trip, we were continuing on to the Outer banks for 4 more nights. The possibility of our home being burglarized was on our mind the rest of the trip. I complained to the front desk staff about this. They were friendly but told me that this is done by ?night audit? and that is what they do. I work in law enforcement, and the fact that this is the hotel policy is beyond ridiculous! With all the identity theft going on in this modern world and all the precautions being taken to prevent it, I just can't believe this hotel does something like this! In all the hotels I have stayed in, this has never happened before. I wanted to speak to the manager but he wasn't available. They assured me that he would contact me about this matter. It has been 5 days since we checked out and still no call from the manager. Obviously they don't care about these things. This has soured us on the entire Best Western Hotel chain and we will NEVER be back to the Sandcastle, which is a shame since it truly is a nice hotel.

    « Enjoyable stay »

A fairly priced conveniently located hotel with a staff willing to please. Va Beach is a perfect family vacation spot with wide range of eating spots. We look forward to returning next year. Take advantage of the many educational events and experiences such the aquarium and dolphin cruise.

    « Great vacation »

We have been going to over 6 years now and as usual we so enjoyed our visit again to the best Western Sandcastle hotel. Againn the staff was very helpful and friendly. Everytime we asked about a good place to eat they would spend the time to check out on the computer for us and print directions . Moving the breakfast area to the second floor was a plus. The breakfast is so much better. A special thank you to Penny and Betty at the front desk for all their help. We will be going again next year and already made our reservaion at checkout

    « Sept. vacation »

Had another great trip thanks to the service and and staff at the Best Western Sandcastle . Penny and Betty were very helpful with getting us directions and recommending restaurants. We have already made reservations for next year at checkout and can't wait for our yearly trip to Virignia. we have been going for 6 years. moving the breakfast area to the second floor and having Best Western handle it is a plus. The breakfast was so much better . only problem was having our handicap rm on the 1st floor. Was a bit difficult for my husband, so again we requested the second floor for him next year and I'm sure we will get it. also to put a cabinet in the handicap rm for toiletries would be a plus.

« Continuing to go back for years to come »

This is an excellent place to stay, very clean and the employees go out of their way to help you in any way they can.. I have been going for about 12-13 years and will continue to stay here every year we go to Virginia Beach.

    « A week at the Beach »

This hotel is fabulous, situated right on the ocean front and board walk. . Great indoor pool and outside sun lounge. We had a great week and hope to return again next year. Staff are excellent, anything you need staff are right there to help and assist you.

« The Sandcastle gets better each time!! »

I always have a wonderful stay at this property. I really enjoyed the finalized location for the breakfast room on the 2nd floor facing the water. It was one of many highlights I enjoy visiting this hotel :)

« Great Location near the Pier »

We just came back from vacation the week of August 28, 2016. Great Location with wonderful ocean front view. Room was a little small, but clean. Hot Buffet breakfast served every morning (scrambled eggs, cheese omlet, either sausage or bacon, and either waffles or french toast, cereals, yogurt bar, bagels, danishes, etc). Hotel staff was very friendly everywhere we went in the hotel. I wish there were ice machines on every floor but it wasn't bad to go down a floor or two to get ice. Free Parking Garage. Overall, we would stay here again on our next trip to Virginia beach.

    3
« Mid week get away »

Hotel was very dingy and dated with dark corridors. Room was average and clean and the bed was comfortable. Based on other reviews we asked for a room away from the elevator. Little did we know... it would not matter where our room was. The walls must be paper thin because we could hear everything that went on in the hall and in the rooms on either side of us.

    1
    « Terrible! »

We stayed at this location last year and returned this year. We have no intention of returning on our next trip to Virginia Beach. While we understand that due to the recent storm there were some issues, the fact that the carpet in our room directly adjacent to the bed remained soaking wet for the entire week was ridiculous. We were told by front desk that if we had water in the room upon our arrival to call down and they would send maintenance up with some type of drying device. Our carpet was so wet that we could actually see water rise to surface when stepped on. Unfortunately, this was directly next to the bed so there was no avoiding it. We informed the front desk the first day and then the second. We were told maintenance would go right up with a drying device. This never happened.  Finally, we took a sheet from the bed and covered the entire area of the carpet so we could at least step in the area. Of course, this didn't take care of the overpowering mildew odor which remained in the room for the entire week. We figured that housekeeping would see the sheet on the floor and realize why it was there when they picked it up to clean, and quite possibly call maintenance. Incredibly though, this never happened because housekeeping NEVER picked the sheet off the floor. Not once. Truly inexcusable. If all this wasn't bad enough, this hotel no longer has breakfast in one of the restaurants downstairs.  Instead, it is now done in filthy, mildewy conference rooms on the second floor with a makeshift buffet set up on one end. We could have almost let this slide but for the fact that by Wednesday half the hotel was occupied by Shriners present for a convention . Virtually all of the conference room area was then closed off and reserved for these folks, who apparently were cooking corned beef and cabbage in slow cookers for two days because the entire floor and lobby reeked of cabbage for the next two days. Once the conference room space was significantly reduced there was literally no place for my wife and I to sit because a) There were very few tables, and b) the tables that were in the remaining room were completely occupied by Shriners! The same people who had there own conference room space specially reserved. The staff that was standing outside collecting breakfast tickets were too busy socializing with each other to do anything about it. Standing up and eating cold scrambled eggs is not what we had in mind when we paid over $200 a night for this hotel. We are extremely easygoing and the main reason we returned this year was because the desk staff was so pleasant and helpful last year. This year when we explained our frustration as we checked out we were simply told "sorry you didn't enjoy your week". When you only get one week a year to spend money and time on vacation this is not the response or experience anyone would want to have. I suspect the management will write a response below apologizing that their hotel didn't meet our expectations when in reality they should be contacting us directly to discuss what took place last week. But that would mean meeting some reasonable expectations, and we just don't think that is possible from this hotel.

    « Vacation »

Stayed for a few days for a self getaway. I did the reservation with Best Western itself and was mislead about the type of room / hotel I was getting. Upon check in I was extremely disappointed to find out I was reserved for a room in a run down 2 story hotel from the 70s costing $130+ a night. The view was of a parking garage. I expressed my issues and was quickly upgraded to the oceanfront side hotel for $75 more a night. The oceanfront side is not new but newer and more secure as the rooms are inside. The rooms are average at best, the overall condition of hotel is average at best, the restaurant is awful. The price is way over for what you get. Using Best Western regularly I was very disappointed. My suggestion would be to use another hotel. I saw so many for equal, less or just a few dollars more that would have been so much better... I however went with BW due to liking other locations and loyalty points (so imagine how expensive the room would have been without that).

    « A nice beach front hotel »

We stay here for a long weekend every summer, they have over the years made many improvements to this hotel, probably the best was becoming a best western affiliate. Rooms are clean, beds are comfortable, it is the end of the season so it does show minimal wear and tear, but they seem to be very good about keeping the property up. Balconies are a little small.

    5
    « LOVE STAYING HERE!!! »

My Husband and I Have Stayed Here Every Labor Day Weekend For The Past 6 Years And We Have Been Very Happy With Our Experiences Every Year! If Your Coming To Virginia Beach And You Want A Great Place To Stay, You Should Stay HERE!!

    3
« Okay but not great. »

We stayed for 3 nights right after Labor Day. We paid $104 per night. We were on the fourth floor and the parking garage was very handy. It is an older motel, the hallways are narrow and our room was small. The bathroom was very small and the tub didn't drain properly. The room was reasonably clean although the window was very streaky and cloudy. I even tried to clean it but it may be that a salt mist from the ocean makes it hard to clean. The balcony was nice to watch the ocean, the surfers, and everyone on the boardwalk. We could even keep tabs on the homeless. The front desk personnel were all very helpful and friendly, no complaints there. We hardly used the breakfast buffet, but it was just average or less. Would probably choose another location next time.

    5
« Good Quality For the Dollar »

Nice and friendly staff. Room was clean and very nicely decorated. My SUV was to tall for the garage. Hotel had secondary parking to accommodate my vehicle. As usual, Best Western offers quality lodging and a reasonable price.

    4
    « Perfect Beach location »

Full on oceanfront room was perfect even when the weather was not. Nicely re-done rooms with updated decor. Huge, deep oversized bath tub was perfect after our half marathon that finished in front of the hotel.

    1
    « DON'T STAY HERE!!! »

Moldy floors, impolite front desk, bad smell in rooms, moldy bathroom, a dump. The location is excellent, right on the beach, but do not stay at this hotel. I suspect the face lift in the lobby is to mask serious foundational issues. You can smell the mold through the new carpets.

    5
    « Great Location »

The room was spacious. Hotel was right on the beach which was what we wanted. We participated in the half-marathon and the hotel was one mile from the start and the finish was right outside hotel. Perfect location. A little on the pricey side though ~ almost $400/night is pretty steep.

    4
    « Going Back Again »

We stayed here a few years ago on a motorcycle trip and enjoyed it so much we are going back! The location is convenient; the rooms and amenities were clean, comfortable, and appropriate; the breakfast was good and the staff helpful and polite. We are looking forward to a relaxing stay on the beach and a great view from the balcony. Many Thanks to Stephanie for her help over the phone!

    « Poor staff/Room flooded »

While staying at the sandcastle best western, tropical storm Hermoine hit. Water came through the door and A/C unit. When we called for a late check out, the staff was extremely unfriendly stating that we should have requested during check-in and that they would not be giving it to us. I will go out of my way to stay at other hotels in the area.

    4
    « A great stay at Sandcastle »

Excellent location, good free breakfast, free parking, nice room. Good staff, convenient amenities, would stay there again. Relatively fast in room internet, a great view of the ocean. No issues during our 2 nights stay.

    « Fun girls trip! »

Went to VA beach for a girls trip. Room was good, bathroom a little small for 3 girls but functional. Room was very clean. Balcony and view was amazing! Breakfast was good. Just a little disappointed there was no outside pool, the inside pool was so hot we couldn't even stay in the room. But all in all, We had an awesome trip. Would deff come back.

    4
    « Great location »

one of the best spots in VA Beach during high season, right in the center of things! Elevators kind of dated and slow, but the staff was wonderful. Pool was almost always out of towels. Rooms were decently soundproof

« beautiful ocean front.... many homeless living on the boardwalk »

I love Best Westerns however this one needs to brighten up their rooms and check out ceiling tiles and replace mattresses. Beds not comfortable at all and air conditioner very loud when kept at a level for comfort. It is also very upsetting to see homelessness on the beach, people sleeping on the benches in front of hotels, under boardwalk, etc. It is very obvious this particular area is a squatting area for the homeless. I would probably avoid this area in the future.

    5
    « Staff »

The Staff are excellent!!! Front desk is a 10. The kitchen crew Evone and Rita both 10. The bartender is a 10. And I loved my room! Can't wait to come back next year! Sorry, I can't remember everyone's name. But from the moment I walked in th door on a Thursdays night till my check out the staff were superb. All my needs were met and I didn't have to worry about anything. Breakfast was delish and it was on the house. The ladies Rita and Evone really take pride in their work. I saw them going out of their way to help everyone!

    « "Outstanding Vacation" »

Outstanding hotel!! Nice quiet hotel. Located on the oceanfront at the quiet end of the strip. Staff is friendly and courteous. The rooms, elevators, and lobby are nice extremely clean and spacious . Inside the room your amenities include free Wifi a microwave, refrigerator, iron/ ironing board, and a 37" flat screen. The private balcony overlooking the boardwalk and ocean is great!, They have two restaurants with the hotel. The hotel is worth the money. I'll stay there again!!

    « Super Quick Getaway!! »

Boy did I get lucky. I decided to get away for a few days before going back to school at the last minute. So many hotels at Virginia beach and I found the Best One in Best Western. The staff was friendly and helpful, the hotel was spotless, the services great, and the location by the pier was perfect.

    « Great family vacation »

We have had a great family trip to Va beach. The hotel is on the oceanfront, with hot breakfast served daily. The staff are friendly. Love the coffee bar in the lobby. The bed was a little soft for the husband, but i thought it was fine.

    4
    « NICE CLEAN HOTEL »

Everything was clean and the staff was friendly. My kids liked the pool. It was within walking distance to most of the attractions. We just walked across the street to the beach. The breakfast area was a good meal.

    « Great choice »

Great family hotel. I suggest booking with trip advisor for the best rate. We have an ocean front room with balcony. No better way to go when on vacation! Wake up to a beautiful sunrise and dolphins swimming by and at night you see the moonrise! The hotel staff is very friendly. Rooms are comfy, quiet and clean. Free breakfast every morning. Best sleep ever! My daughter even thanked me for choosing this spot. This picture is the view from our balcony.

« Great Deal and helpful in a pinch »

My family originally had a reservation at a local Motel which turned out to be unacceptable. I spoke to Tamara at the front desk at 2 AM and she gave us a great deal on an oceanfront room with a kitchenette. Breakfast offerings were great, the staff is very friendly and we loved the location right in the center of things. A solid 3 star hotel with good amenities and location.

    3
    « Short Stay Okay »

Nice indoor pool and sun deck. Breakfast was routine (same every day), dining room was hot and poorly poorly ventilated (my clothing smelled of grease afterward). Avoid accepting a room close to the 2nd floor laundry room and ice maker. Sooo noisy after midnight. Beachfront view was nice. For the price and short stay, it was okay.

    5
    « Good Hotel »

We stayed 2 nights and had excellent service from the staff and the location of the hotel was perfect. They only have 2 elevators so sometimes it takes a while to get one. Parking is covered so your car doesn't get baked in the sun. Would love to stay again.

    5
    « Vacation »

The hotel staff were absolutely phenomenal. We had the pleasure of dealing with Brittani and Angela and they were beyond our expectation. The rooms were spotless and we had a great time. Definitely can't wait to go back.

    3
    « Convenient Location »

We stayed at Best Western for the Sand Soccer games in June 2016. The location was perfect for us because it was within a short walk to our son's game field on the beach. It was also within walking distance to restaurants and shops. The room was spacious and clean. The breakfast was acceptable. The parking garage was also convenient because we ended up staying on the second floor and we parked on the second floor so we didn't use the elevator most of the time. I think we paid a premium rate because of the soccer tournament and being late in making the reservation. We only stayed for two nights and it was worth it.

    5
« clean, quiet, pleasant hotel »

My husband and I stayed here middle of August 2016. Although weather was extremely hot, the A/C in the room was fabulous! It was quite and didn't kick on and off all thru the night. Nice big screen TV with 3 HBO channels. The king sized bed was so comfortable (pillows a little hard and lumpy). Loved that I didn't have to deal with little bars of soap to shower. They have soap and shampoo in dispensers in the shower! Breakfast was plentiful, something for everyone. Staff so friendly. Really great place, will return for sure !!!

    2
    « Not a good experience »

Having stayed at another BW Plus in Austin Texas earlier this year we had much higher expectations than this hotel delivered. Dirty hall ways, drop down stained ceiling in the bathroom, beach towels hanging from the balconies were not what we expected for over $200 per night. We went online tonight and the $59 rate offered was much more reflective of the value that other guests received. We can't count on a BW Plus being a consistent experience based on this stay and definitely would not book in advance via BW.com based on this experience.

    4
    « Vacation »

This hotel met all my expectations. The front desk, maintenance, housekeeping etc., were all very friendly and no matter where you ran into them they always talked to you. The hotel was very clean and very quick to met your needs. We plan on returning next year and would not want to stay anywhere else. The breakfast was a typical continental breakfast. The hotel is located next to the pier. The store located under the hotel was great as well and not overly priced.

    4
    « Nice quiet getaway »

The front desk staff is very pleasant, the hotel is old (old elevator, narrow halls) but the rooms were nicely updated. Towards the quiet end of the boardwalk, so that made for a decent night's sleep.

    « Wonderful visit. »

So when I first arrived I was a little apprehensive about my room. It was really clean, it was decorated nicely, you could tell it had been remodeled, but it was pretty small, I didn't love the bathtub area, and I wish it had a sliding glass door or the balcony instead of just a window. That being said.... I am glad I stayed and would stay again in a heart beat! Everything was so clean and well kept. The front desk girls, our housekeeper Ms. Kena, the breakfast staff, and the maintenance men were all SO NICE! So helpful, so friendly, so accommodating. We had an issue with our toilet and maintenance came up immediately and fixed it quickly and with a good attitude. When we checked in I think it was Penny that helped us and also a younger blonde girl who was really nice. They were both wonderful. Our cleaning lady for the week was Ms. Kena and she was so polite/sweet and did a wonderful job! The complimentary breakfast every morning was phenomenal. Those ladies in the kitchen do such a wonderful job at keeping everything stocked and they were also so friendly and hospitable! There were plenty of breakfast options from yogurt parfaits to eggs bacon sausage French toast bagels muffins danishes hash browns cereal toast I mean anything. Hot coffee that was actually good. Orange juice apple juice milk. I was really impressed with the people running breakfast. They were on top of things and truly do a wonderful job! So I would 100% say that anything that was lacking in the room (which is truly not much just the size and a few small details) was completely made up for with cleanliness, hospitality, good attitudes, hard workers, and delicious breakfast. I hope nothing changes with management or the staff of this place because they are doing a wonderful job! Definitely worth checking out. We had a blast!

    « Very Good »

The hotel staff was very polite and professional. The one problem we faced was that the refrigerator was not cooling well it took a while to cool everything. The location is great not far from stores or restaurants and of course the beach. The room was small but cozy with an ocean front view.

    5
« The staff was exceptional!!!! »

There was an error n my reservation (due 2 unclear info threw booking.com) the staff was able to help. They were kind, patient, very understanding & we're sure I was happy with the room. The was a problem with the TV, a awesome matience guy quickly came & fixed the problem & again so kind & friendly! Every employee we came n contact during our stay was jus the same- very friendly, understanding, kind & polite! They continuously helped with holding doors, elevator, & always had a friendly smile & a nice "Hello"! I'm not sure of every name but a few who were outstanding are Becca, Brittani, Betty, & James! This was the best service & staff we have ever experienced, thanks so much for being so Perfect!!!

    « Great stay »

Stayed for only 1 night but wished we were able to stay longer. Hotel is located right on the beach close to the fishing pier. Our room was located at the end of the hall on the 8th floor and was huge. It had a full size fridge, microwave and sink to wash dishes in. The beds were very comfortable and bathroom big with two sinks. The view was amazing to watch the sunset and sunrise. The front desk staff were professional, courteous, and very efficient. Although check in 3:00 pm, they do provide you with a parking permit when you arrive which is great as this way you don't have to pay for parking to enjoy the beach or just walk the strip until you can check-in. I would definitely stay here again and for longer the next time.

    3
« Overall OK - Room location is everything »

Our room was 811 which is located directly across the hall (5 feet) from the Elevators and about 10 feet from the door of the stair case. As soon as the doors of the elevator opened upon arrival I knew we were in trouble being that we have a 5 month old baby boy. I made a comment to my wife about the location in which there was a worker that just happened to be in the elevator who replied "there's not much traffic on this floor." Nothing else was said and we just went about mini vacation. That night 8/5/16 until about midnight all we could hear were DINGS (from the elevator) and the slamming of the stair case door (I guess the hydraulics were broke because it didn't close slowly). It was so bad a few times I thought kids were playing tag on our floor and got up to look down the hall to see nothing or no one. Overall the stay was fine other than the location of our room.

    3
    « Enjoyed my stay »

The Hotel is located at the fishing pier which was nice we did a lot of fishing there. Breakfast is like a buffet had eggs ,Toast ,sausage ,. I was most impressed with the ones there who kept food bar full they were super nice and were always smiling. The room were clean and staff was friendly.Lot to do located did even have to drive if we didn't want to. Parking was tight .

« Clean rooms and great views »

Hotel is nicely located on the strip. Rooms are clean with great ocean views. Breakfast is free and is actually good tasting. Employees are very quick with any request and always greet you warmly with a smile.

« Small rooms, updating needed »

My daughter and I stayed one night at the Best Western Sand Castle because she was competing in the USA Gymnastics Level 9 Nationals Junior Olympics. The room was fairly clean but was extremely small and in need of updates. The setup of the room was strange, a large area of wasted space when you entered the room and the rest of the room was in tight corners. Even though the room had 2 double beds and technically could sleep 4 I would recommend no more than two people. The bathroom was small and dingy. Hallways of the hotel were dark, dirty, and dingy. The breakfast was poor. We actually left and went to a dunkin donuts for breakfast. The breakfast was in a banquet room that needed updating and some cleaning. Orange juice was mostly water. Saw kitchen personnel smoking in the parking garage. Prices ridiculously high for quality. Would stay next time off beach in a newer, cleaner, and cheaper priced hotel.

    5
    « Fantastic »

My husband and I have been going to Virginia Beach for some time now, and this was the first hotel we stayed at and the room was awesome. Our stay was on july 31st till August 04th. Employees at the front desk and house keeping were very friendly. We will definitely stay at this hotel again.

    5
    « Excellent Stay »

I am an employee of Best Western so I am a little biased but I was thoroughly impressed with the hotel's atmosphere and amenities. Everything was excellent from our housekeeper Michelle to Alivia and Betty at the front desk, you all did wonderful!! And it was a pleasure to meet you! I loved our room location and the view we had! And the beds were quite comfortable. Also the location of the hotel was great for restaurants and both restaurants on site were absolutely fantastic. All in all one of my best beach experiences ever!

    « Good hotel »

We arrive early the staff were exceptionally nice (Betty and Alivia) however I requested for ocean front and ended up with a side view it was not the hotel' fault since I booked through Expedia. This is the 3rd my family and stay at this hotel, and we will stay here again, but I'll make sure we get what we pay for. Breakfast was really good and the rooms were clean.

    3
« Average at best for the price! »

We had black in the showers, slow drains in the bath and sink, toilet stopped working twice, lost electricity, roomed was small, a/c stopped working temporarily , and the treadmill did not work. Location was good though.

« "Flowers in the Attic" Special »

I booked the Best Western Sandcastle for a one night business trip. I realize that this is the busy vacation season, but I paid $220 + tax for my stay. With that price, I thought the space would be decent. Reviews on here indicated that would be the case. Pros: Very friendly staff, nice lobby, clean room Cons: I was put in room 914...I should have known that it was going to be trouble when the receptionist gave me complex instructions to find the room. I have included pictures with this review to show how you access the room, which I have since dubbed the "Flowers in the Attic" suite. Don't be fooled. 914 isn't on the 9th floor. It basically a converted storage room on the roof. In laughing because the receptionist apologized for the lack of balcony. Sorry to break it to you, but 914's smallest problem is it's lack of balcony. The room is dark, with the exception of one picture window facing the ocean. I thought to myself, "Why would they cover 3/4 of the window with a tv? It's the one thing this room has going for it!" I pull back the curtains to reveal that the view is 3/4 crusty roof top, janky AC unit and all, and about 1/4 view of the ocean. There's a locked door leading to the roof and supporting my theory that this is an old storage room. Best Western, are you that hard up for money that you are converting every last space into a room? Or do you just save 914 for guests that you hope never return?

Angie and her co-worker were very helpful and informative during the check in process. So far since check in, I am satisfied. We also had access to free parking, free wifi and free breakfast coupons. Tomorrow, my daughter will be excited to check out the pool.

« Skip the Continental Breakfast »

We have stayed at this hotel 3 times. The rooms are clean and comfortable. All three times we had a balcony and enjoyed the ocean views and breezes. Two times we were lucky to have access to parking on the same level as our room. This was very convenient. In the past we have enjoyed the continental breakfast but this year, we ended up going out and paying for breakfast. The selection of food was not as good as our previous visits and what should have been hot was room temperature at best.

The hotel was really nice and the staff were exceptionally nice, however I paid for ocean front and ended up with a side view this was not the fault of the hotel because I booked through Expedia I would probably stay here again but will make sure I get what I pay for also the breakfast was really nice and the rooms were very clean. Just don't book on line without double checking

    « Floor Number Five »

Last year we stayed at this same property with my son and his wife and daughter. My granddaughter( who was 2 at the time) remembered vividly our last year's stay and that we stayed on 'floor number 5'. When we arrived for our stay this year we were assigned a room on the 7th floor. As busy as the staff was this year, they still filled our request and moved us to the 5th floor to satisfy my now 3year old granddaughter's memory. It sounds like a small thing but it made her happy memories of last year come alive again. It's the little things at this property that mean so much. The breakfast was great (moved to the 2nd floor this year..not the adjacent restaurant) and our room was very clean. All the staff was courteous and seemed to enjoy working at the Sandcastle Best Western Plus. What a great experience! We hope to stay there next year...on floor number five!!!!

    « BW VA Beach »

This hotel is in a great location and the ocean view was awesome, BUT the room was not that great. It is dirty and poorly maintained. For some reason we were were given a handicapped room. The bathroom was huge, but it was not clean or in good condition. The sink was tiny, had no counter space, and the pipes were exposed underneath. There was no place to put anything in the bathroom. The sink was one with a motion sensor so there was no way to control the flow or temperature of the water. We had to either brush our teeth with hot water or use the shower. We couldn't dry our hair in the bathroom because the outlet was next to the sink and the water would come on when we stood in front of it! Since this was a handicapped room the shower was level with the floor, (no tub) which meant the water ran out of the shower and all over the bathroom floor. They did provide lots of towels so we used those all over the floor. The only thing housekeeping did daily was make the bed and put fresh towels in the bathroom. They didn't clean or even replace any cups or coffee we used. The doors to the rooms are heavy metal which automatically closed quickly so at about 7:30 AM every morning all we could hear was slamming doors up and down the hallways. There was no sleeping in here. It was way too loud. They did provide a complementary breakfast which was decent. The staff at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. We have stayed in many Best Westerns so this was a huge disappointment. I would not stay in this one again.

The best characteristic of the hotel is the location, right on the beach. Also, both to the right and to the left on the beach, the beach was crowded. But in front of the hotel, it was significantly less. Every room has a view of the beach. The hotel is a high occupancy hotel, with a lot of traffic. They keep it clean, but it is somewhat worn. The staff were helpful, efficient, knowledgeable and pleasant. The breakfast was good.

We have stayed here several times over the years. It is the best! They help you, clean rooms, all staff just wonderful. The location great!! Right at the Fishing Pier, the restaurants near are great. We love The Raven!! Also, at this Best Western, the new restaurant Ocean 14 was just super. Must try!!

« They damaged my vehicle and did not care about solutions »

I would not stay this hotel. The management only cares about your money and not your comfort. They did not explain parking to us and our vehicle was damaged.. They did not care to even discuss solutions which were very minimal but none the less lied about contacting me.

« Best room we have every had!!! »

the hotel is right on the ocean. We had a view of the ocean from two directions and a view of the inlet. The room was much larger than usual and had everything we wanted. The hotel is painted very cute colors. On the ocean side, it is easy to find the hotel after a walk on the beach due to its multi-color blocks. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. We plan on going back again and bringing other family members with us!!

I'll sum up my review with the pros and cons; PRO: Great Location Great customer service Near carnival and pier (did I say great location) Hotel is two places to eat and room service Has Beach and convenience store inside hotel Free Breakfast CON: Free Breakfast is not as good as previous years Air Conditioner freezes the person sleeping closest to the unit It's a great Hotel for families and very kid friendly. Great parking also.

Stepping out of the elevator the building seemed old, but entering the room, surprisingly nice. Slept great, very quiet at nite. Room could use more dresser space. Nice location, quieter on the south end and great view of fireworks right from the oceanfront balcony. On site parking garage. Very good service staff. Nice stay

    « Summer vacation »

This was the best Virginia Beach hotel we've ever stayed in and we've been going for years. The room was kept amazingly clean, and the breakfast every morning was more than sufficient. There is an Italian restaurant, ice cream shop, and gift shop attached to the hotel. The indoor pool is nice and the workout room overlooks the ocean. A few minor hiccups occurred during our stay. We were told in a phone call prior to our stay that our family's rooms would all be on the same floor, but they were not. The elevator stopped working a few times. The parking garage is very tight, and lastly, we had to evacuate our room due to a fire alarm that was apparently a drill we were supposed to be told about prior to it occurring but were not. Overall it was a great vacation. We will definitely be returning to this hotel.

    « Helpful Staff »

Really helpful staff, went out of their way to make our stay a great one. More than once we needed assistance and the staff was there to help right away. Our only complaint would be that the hallways were very warm and where you ate breakfast and the fan in the bathroom did not work that well and it was very hot and steamy. The free breakfast was really great, lots of variety. for all kinds of taste.

We enjoyed our stay at this motel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Kena with housekeeping is the best. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word every time we saw her. Wifi was a little slow at times. The elevators were slow but the hotel was packed. The location was nice and close to the beach and to all the attractions. We will visit here again .

    « Awesome experience!! »

We stayed this weekend and had an amazing experience. Friendly staff, clean room, accessible parking etc. We stayed in an oceanfront room and even saw the fireworks from our balcony! We had a little trouble with our room key but the staff went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. We will be back for sure.

    « Great Stay »

Stayed here the week of July 17th. The staff was great and always to my beck and call, room was clean and comfortable. Balcony was clean as well. I will come back again! Their renovations really give an uplift to the hotel. The hotel is close to the beach and right on the boardwalk. The room also comes with a microwave and refrigerator which is great for snacks. This hotel is worth staying at.

    « Nice Hotel »

Very nice hotel right on the beach. They have a parking garage which is a pretty tight squeeze so it's best to walk or ride the trolley if you are staying local. The rooms are a pretty decent size but the bathroom is my only complaint. Way too small!! The balcony is a good comfortable size with a great view of the pier and ocean. Overall, I would return to this property great staff and very good location.

« Not bad, not great »

All in all, not a bad hotel; just a few quirks it needs to work out. The hotel could use more elevators and a bigger pool for those who may want to take a break from the ocean but still enjoy the water. There was a massive crack in our toilet in room 312, so I highly recommend not getting this room. The bathroom was small and the sink was outside and in the actual room. However, the breakfast was good, beds were comfortable and clean, and the staff was nice and helpful. For those who are into fishing, BW Sandcastle is right next to the pier. Not the worst hotel experience I could've had by far, and I wouldn't mind going back at all; it just wouldn't be my first choice.

« It was an awesome stay »

My family and I stayed in the hotel from July 13-16, 2016. It was a very slow start since it rained the first day. In the second night it was still going slow. The hotel was wonderful. The breakfast was great and the front desk staff was really great. A bit expensive but overall it was a great stay. I was greatly impressed by Karen. She was such a great person. She was more than a housekeeper she was what made my stay super great. I'm in the hospitality business with another chain and I consider myself a master in my craft. Then I met Karen. She showed me and my family such superb service. She was excellent. She went above and beyond to help me salvage my vacation. Karen is an asset to her company. Sometimes we have hidden precious diamonds in our staff that we don't even know we have. Karen is what I call a perfect associate. My family and I thank you.

« Clean, ocean view, great customer service. »

My family of 4 decided instead of our normal day trip to the beach we'd splurge and get a room for a night so we could spend the next day at the beach as well before driving home. We tried this one before aT another hotel and it was not a plesson experience. This trip was such a pleasant surprise! The staff members were all friendly and courteous. Our room was very clean and comfortable. It was a little small but we did not spend much down time in there other than to bathe and sleep (I'll take clean over bigger in size any day). The ocean front view from the balcony was amazing. We made one call to the front desk for extra towels and we're brought them within minutes. Our reservation included free breakfast which was decent. My twelve year old girls wanted to go to the indoor pool but we just didn't get around to it. At check out since the front desk knew we were staying at the beach for the day before heading back, they told is if we needed to use the restroom on the lobby floor we were more than welcome. We also were allowed to stay parked in their lot across the street. Great customer service! We will definitely be back for our next visit to VA Beach!

The best location for fun on a budget. Love the indoor pool and exercise area. Even with rainy forecast you will enjoy your stay. Our room was cozy. We loved sitting out on the balcony in our outside living space. We took advantage of our microwave and had great family time out under the starlight.

« BW Sandcastle beachfront hotel in Va. Beach »

This hotel was a very reasonable price for the summer season. All of the rooms are ocean front and have balconies. It is easily accessible to the boardwalk. They had fireworks on the beach on Sunday night which were easily seen from the balcony. There are several restaurants and local shops nearby the hotel. There is a parking garage at the hotel as well with access to up to the 5th floor which made bringing in luggage easy. The outside doors from the parking garage were supposed to be locked at 10pm but were not, although the hotel seemed to be safe enough. The rooms were clean and comfortable although not luxurious like a 4 star hotel, but had everything that was needed. There was a wonderful complimentary breakfast. I would stay there again.

    « Excellent experience »

This was our first stay here and we weren't sure what to expect. We loved it!!!! The staff is so helpful. The bathroom was a little small, but still ok. The only thing we didn't like was the "store" in the hotel that rented bikes and sold various items. The bikes were trash and the employees of the store were very rude. I understand they are not part of the hotel, but just wanted to put that in here. We will definitely be staying here again!!!

« Ocean view on the south end »

This hotel is located on the south end of Virginia beach and has a spectacular ocean view. During the course of our stay we learned that the south end of the beach is the older end and this hotel reflected it. The staff were generally helpful and courteous. Housekeeping called our room a few days into our stay to see if we needed anything. We had the do not disturb sign up and they were apparently unaware that we had traded our dirty towels in for clean ones. Lobby coffee was good though they did run out of cups during the course of our stay resulting in a switch to a paper cup that was hot to the touch and without a skirt making them almost unmanageable for traveling to a room on the first floor. I was surprised that water was not offered given the Virginia heat and tendency for people to become dehydrated. Breakfast was ok alot of reconstituted items. Surprisingly there was no bacon or potatoes but there were eggs, sausages, muffins, yogurt, and a soy milk which was great for those who need it. The light switch was a concern - the bulb was laid over on its side. We straightened it and did not use the light. Every time you turned the tv on it was snow. We called the front desk on arrival and a gentleman was quick to arrive and assist us. It didn't fix the problem permanently but it did teach us so that we could fix it when we wanted to watch tv. The pool was 5-6 feet and designed like an exercise pool. They did have a baby pool and outdoor seating which was nice. Thank you very much we enjoyed our stay.

    « happy both visits! »

Our 2nd time staying here - very pleased! A little spendy for me, but you get a beachfront hotel which is key when lugging all of the beach gear down to the beach. We like the complimentary breakfast, also something we look for in a hotel for convenience. Always something for everyone there. Love seeing the dolphins swim by from our balcony! Also, ventilation in the bathrm is nice to get that humidity out after a shower!

    « Fabulous Beach Trip »

Our family's first trip to Virginia Beach and we love it!! This is the cleanest oceanfront hotel I have visited!! The staff were all courteous, helpful, and knowledgeable. We got excellent restaurant recommendations from them. So so clean and we were directly on the beach!! The housekeeping staff did a phenomenal job daily!! Super thanks to Maria and Karen for being so friendly and professional!! We even extended our stay at the last minute.... And Becca & Alivia at the front desk helped make that happen. Great choice for a family vacation. Clean rooms, reasonable rates, an inexpensive gift store/shop!! It has everything!!

« First time visiting and we loved it! »

This was our first time staying here and it was amazing compared to other hotels that we've stayed at in Virginia Beach. In a very convenient area with shops nearby as well as right at the Pier and amusement park, All staff was super friendly, breakfast was good with a good variety of food choices, indoor pool and tanning deck was nice. Our room was beautiful!..full size fridge, comfortable beds, beautiful view of the beach and the pier from the balcony(as pictured),VERY CLEAN, awesome bathroom with built in shampoo and body wash dispensers on the shower wall and double sinks. We will definitely be booking this hotel again for our vacation next summer!

    « Too pricey »

This hotel was nice, the lobby, and rooms have been all redone and up to date. The location is on point, everything is in walking distance. The breakfast was awesome till you bit down into a rotten apple, not happy at all! Then you go and buy some water and put in your fridge, to open it up and have a horrid smell come hit you in the face and smell up the whole room, which I complained about and baking soda was brought up right away! Then you go and get in the shower after a long day at the beautiful beach to find that the maids didn't leave you any towels, which they did bring up after a while! But then your in the shower and go to get some of their dial yogurt soap to only realize it's empty! Yes these are little things, but your paying a lot of money to stay here...these things to needed to be corrected. ....On another note. ..this hotel is a perfect location, the beach is right there, everything is walking distance!

We stayed July 11-12 on our vacation. We were able to check in early 2 hours before check in time. When we unloading our car Alfonso came and helped unload and went to get a cart. He then went to the room with us and unloaded with a smile on his face. He was also very informative about the area. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly. The views from the hotel are great. Would definitely stay here again recommend to anyone.

This hotel is situated at a perfect location on the beach, with the fishing pier a short 5 minute or less walk. Very clean hotel and newly renovated!

« A Nice Hotel to stay in VA Beach »

People were excellent, Their amenities are better than good. I would rate it excellent if not for the size like the gym. The free breakfast was better than other hotel I stayed in Va Beach beachfront. The indoor pool is kind of small not your typical pool size the size and shape are not enticing for adults to play with their kids. This is the only downside to our stay. The room we are in is the suite so it was very roomy. We even have a stair that lead to another part of the room which serves as a kitchenette. Parking is plenty. We did not find any difficulty looking for open spaces. The only thing you need to keep in mind is the height restriction - it is only 7ft. If you have luggage carrier on top of your suv or van it will not go through. Lobby was very nice and airy. It even have a connecting resto and bar next to it. They have free coffee too by the check-in area. There is also two stores within in the building that is accessible to guest. You can't miss it as it is in the passage through the boardwalk exit. If you want to get a nice view of the 4th of July fireworks this is one of the best seat in the area. You can watch it from your balcony.

« Nice, clean ocean view hotel at a reasonable price. »

We stayed for three nights at this hotel and the stay was very nice. The hotel and the rooms were very clean and updated. The bathroom was small though. The hotel is in a great location. Compared to other hotels that I priced that had ocean view, this hotel was less expensive. It also had a nice deck area by the pool to relax.

We stayed here last year and went back again this year. The beach front location is great not as crowded. Pictures from our balcony. Staff is very friendly. Room had great views. They changed the breakfast set up. Staff there not really unorganized. Went to breakfast at 815 or so. Most of the containers empty. Had to ask staff . The staff was trying. By the time I waited in line the hot food it was empty again. I would stay again. NICE PLACE

I stayed in a standard room with an ocean view. Not a bad hotel for the activities around... walking on the pier, going to the kid's amusement park, or getting something quick at the convenience store located in the lobby. I loved the fact that the shower had a dispensing shampoo/conditioner and body was instead of the small hotel bottles.

    « Very Pleased! »

I was very pleased with the way Charlene & Penny accommodated the needs and requests of our family. The customer service was great! It was a pleasant stay. The only thing we did not like was the smell of the suite. The room smelled like someone had previously smoked in the room. Of course this is not the hotel staff fault so I will not take away from the professional staff that I encountered during my stay. Everyone was very pleasant and friendly. I would recommend this hotel for the location, the friendly staff, and because the hotel was clean. Enjoyed it! You will too.

This is by far one of the best hotels we've ever had the pleasure of staying at. The hotel staff was very nice and courteous. They made sure that any request was fulfilled in a timely manner. The whole facility was very clean, and well kept. The location was perfectly in-between all the things VA beach has to offer, so driving wasn't an issue. everything was in walking distance. It's located right across the street from the amusement park. All in all, I give this hotel 3 thumbs up!!!!!!!!

    « July 4 vacation »

We traveled to Virginia Beach planning on staying with a relative. After arriving at the beach we decided to see if we could find a room. It was July 4 so we were a little skeptical. I found Best Western Sandcastle online and booked our room for the night. After seeing our room and how nice everything was we decided to stay an extra night! It is a fantastic place to say with great views. The staff has been wonderful also. We will definitely be coming back!

« Great Place to stay!! »

This was our second time staying at this hotel. It is perfectly situated on the beach, every room has an ocean view. The staff was very helpful with a quick check in and replacement of the remote control for the TV as my son needed to wind down after a long ride in the car. The location is right near the fishing pier if you fancy that. Two years ago the breakfast that was provided, had a bit more variety, than what was provided now. But, overall the stay was still a great experience and allowed for the family bonding on a great vacation.

    « Great location! »

We stayed here for a week, there were 4 of us in the room and it was comfortable. The room was oceanfront and it was on the 3rd floor. Gorgeous views! The staff is very friendly and courteous. Our room was clean and they had body was and shampoo in the shower dispensers. We requested an extra blanket and it was brought to the room very quickly. The breakfast could use some improvements. The coffee was watered down, the pastries were stale and there is not a waffle maker. The parking area was tricky, the spaces are very small so if you are bringing an SUV be prepared. It was nice to be able to park in the parking garage and go straight to the floor you were staying on without having to take an elevator or go through the lobby each time. I loved that the stairs are open and right next to the elevator so I could take the stairs easily and not have to wait on the elevator.

    « Another good vacation »

Kudos go out to front desk staff members Betty and Alivia. The housekeepers on the 8th floor during our stay were Anezka and the girl who worked with her, unfortunately I didn't get her name. They were amazing! Nice, professional, some of the best I have had the pleasure of dealing with. These girls work hard. I hope Best Western knows what good workers they have in these girls.

« Fell short of my expectation »

I like Best Western hotels but this one did not meet my expectation. The hotel honored my request for higher floor though I did not enjoy the view because of the pier. Breakfast was good with variety to choose from.

« Great hotel right by the pier »

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff was nice and accommodating. Our first night our a.c. unit was knocking really bad. We called the front desk and within about 30 minutes Al was knocking at our door with a brand new unit. He swapped the units and the rest of our stay was cool and quiet. The hotel was right by the pier and the small boardwalk amusement park but neither were loud. We were on the third floor and had a great view of the beautiful ocean. Breakfast was ok. Your typical continental with eggs, bacon, sausage, cearls, breads and fruit. No waffles at this one. But it was a good enough selection we thought. The indoor pool was good. Small but never crowded when we were there. Only ladders into the pool which was 4'-6' and there was a smaller baby pool that was about 12" or so. Also very clean hotel. There was always someone mopping in the halls leading out to the beach. We would stay here again.

« Rooms are tiny for a family of four! »

The location is really great and the views are amazing! My husband and I stayed with our 2 kids aged 4 and 6 in a 2 queen bed room. I cant count how many times we all got stubbed toes from the bathroom door opening up into the sink area. There was no room to spread out whatsoever. The breakfast had many choices but we were disappointed with the quality. We would have been happy with pancakes or a waffle choice. We were reluctant to take the breakfast to our room since the dining hall was so hot and humid along with the hall ways. Our room was well air condictioned. The laundry room was a disaster. Not only that but there were no change machines to actually get quaters to work the machines. I had to go down to the lobby to get quaters and and detergent. But they didnt have quaters so I had to walk to the store in the hotel and ask for quaters. Not only that but only 1 wash machine and 1 dryer actually worked...I found this out after I put the soap in the bottom of the wash machine. An out of order sign would have been nice. Housekeeping was fantastic! Everyday we looked forward to seeing our rooms sparkle and the housekeeper would even place my 4 year olds stuffed animals neatly on the beds. My daughter got so excited to see that! The front counter staff were very friendly and very helpful. They even printed us directions to a top rated seafood restaurant....Captain Georges buffet was excellent...but pricey! All in all we had a great vaction...but I would pay a bit more next time and go to the hilton without the complimentary breakfast. Also check out the restaurant in the Four points by Sheridan. It had an awesome shrimp combo!

I enjoyed my stay here as I have in the past. I did not enjoy the breakfast though. Outside of that I had a great time. They would get a better a review if they had a better breakfast buffet with real scrambled eggs and some pancake, waffles & French toast. and offered outside seating as an option

« Great value, great view. »

This hotel is very nice, good location and a true value. The desk clerk was very nice upon arrival. The room was great, decorated nicely and clean. We were close to the conference rooms where the complementary breakfast was served, down the hall from the exercise room and the pool. Right on the oceanfront and a small Italian restaurant on the premises. Lobby is very spacious and complementary coffee and tea all day. We did have a bit of problem with the pass code for the wi-fi as we arrived on Saturday and given a login then on Monday we couldn't log in. When we called the desk on Tuesday we were told it is changed on Mondays. They could have told us that when we checked in but that was just a small inconvenience.

« Breakfast, guest services and housekeeping was outstanding! »

Outstanding experience...We felt very welcomed and at home. Their friendly smiles and willingness to meet and exceed our expectation set the stage for a great stay. Julia from housekeeping did an excellent job on our rooms and took the time to answer all our questions and guided us in the right direction to better our stay. If I had any thing negative to say about this hotel is that it is a little over priced.

    « Amazing vacation!!!!!! »

My best friend and I, decided to go to Virginia Beach, because neither of us, had been there. I chose the Best Western Plus Sandcastle, because of the reviews, and because it said each room was ocean view with private balcony. One of the things that most impressed me was, in a few days, it was going to be my best friend birthday, so I called to see if they could put some balloons in our room. I first spoke to Shelby, who called me back and told me, they could honor the request. I could pay for them when I got there. When I called back the night before we came, Alivia, promised to tape a note to the managers door, to make sure, and when I called the day of the trip, Betty assured me, everything was in place and she was excited for us to come. The room was awesome, I could sat on my bed, and see the pier. The balcony, was great! The bed was so comfortable, we had a blast. The location was amazing! When we stepped out the back door, we were a few feet from the water. The shuttles, ran and took you all over Virginia beach. We bought a 3-day pass for $8.00 and rode unlimited. My car never moved from the time I parked, until I got ready to leave.

« Great Family Vacation Spot »

This hotel was clean and comfy!! The check in was easy and we had an oceanfront room with 2 double beds. a hot buffet breakfast was provided and was actually pretty good with several hot options to choose from. Each room had a microwave and mini fridge in the room. The mini fridge was the largest I have ever seen in a standard hotel room and kept our drinks nice and cold!! The view was great and you are right on the boardwalk and steps from the Pier.. only negative was the wifi was not very good at all and traveling with teens that is a must! but we will be staying here again such a great place.

When I called to reserve our rooms they were very helpful . I had a problem with the shower and they corrected it right away. The house keeping even called in the evening to see if we needed anything. The staff and hotel was very clean, friendly and everything I envisioned.

I have stayed at lot of hotels, for the price were rob. young man sitting on prep table where food is place. overall the staff is not train to deal with the public. The breakfast was terrible, out four days they ran out of something everyday. The basic, juice, bread and whatever was on the line.

« Great value and right on the beach »

The hotel room was right on the boardwalk and faced the beach. We enjoyed the balcony. The staff is very friendly and professional. Room was clean and spacious. Children's rides were next to the hotel. Great for little ones. Breakfast had a wide variety but the cooked food was not real great. Rooms were quiet and did not hear any of the neighbors. Overall, a great place to stay. Will definitely stay there again.

I had a great stay here. The staff was really respectful and helpful. The room was very nice and clean. I'm going to be staying here again next month. My family also enjoyed staying here. They will be coming back with me.

    « Great stay! »

I needed a last minute room and booked through TripAdvisor. It took two seconds. Within ten minutes, the staff called and confirmed my stay. They were so incredibly pleasant and helpful. The room was great and location was perfect. It was very clean and exactly what I needed.

    « Wont stay again »

Not the cleanest. We had a large 2 level suite which was old, dusty, dirty and unappealing. The pictures are misleading. What really turned me off is that we had a big "water bug" in our suite. Ive been ready to go since then. We called the front desk but she stated she was the only one at the front so there was nothing she could do.

    « Overpriced and needs a clean »

We arrived to a blocked taped off reception door, no explanation or directions to alternative door. It's just a set of rooms really, no restaurant no bar. We were advised to eat at The Raven as its clean and friendly, it's grubby and unfriendly in reality. Try the new place that's at the end of the block opposite the Raven, it's a beach style bar, but staff are friendly and the food is good.

    « Pretty great vacation »

Loved our trip and will definitely be back! The view was amazing and it was so nice to be so close to the ocean. Staff was great and willing to help with anything they could, but we did experience a few problems. First I will say check in was absolute chaos. We had a 45 minute wait to check in because there were only two people working the front desk, when one got frazzled from an aggravated customer and walked out. During our check in they asked for the rest of our payment (which we had already been paid in full through Travelocity) when we pressed that we had already paid it they looked further into it and apologized for not checking on that sooner. When we got to our room I had to call the front desk as it had appeared the sheets had not been changed. They were not able to send someone up right away, but because we were there to see the beach we left and it was taken care of by the time we returned. After all the hiccups, we had a fantastic trip!

« Best vacation in a long time! »

We just returned from a stay at this property on Friday. Everything about it was wonderful. The hot breakfast was delicious every morning with plenty of choices. We loved the gift shop and bike rental shop attached to the property and your walk right out the door to the boardwalk and ocean was fantastic. Our view of the ocean from our 4th floor balcony was amazing. Housekeeping did such a wonderful job tidying our room and the beds were extremely comfortable. When we first got to our room our fridge was iced up and not working and the safe was not working. Within 5 minutes of calling the kind maintenance man showed up, reset our safe and gave us a brand new fridge. I cannot say enough about how kind and friendly all of the staff there was. I have not had that experience in a hotel in a long time and it was refreshing. Parking right on our floor was so handy. We will definitely be back to Virginia Beach and we will definitely be staying at the Best Western Plus Sandcastle.

« Always a Great Place to Stay »

We stay at the Best Western Sandcastle every year when we go to Virginia Beach, and year after year it is a consistent value. The front desk folks are always pleasant. Parking is usually easy and the lobby area is comfortable. The coffee machine in the lobby is nice for grabbing a beverage either for the way up to the room or on the way out to walk with. The included full breakfast always beats the continental breakfast options at other hotels. Sheets and towels were all clean, no issues with service. Overall they give us no reason to look elsewhere so we keep going there.

The hotel is at a great location and has everything you need will be staying there again. Love the balconies and right out the door onto the beach. like the shops too. The front desk was so helpful in printing us maps and recommending places for us

    « Wonderful Family Vacation! »

We had a wonderful stay at Best Western Plus Sandcastle Beachfront! When we arrived, the front desk was very helpful and checked us in promptly. The ladies were very helpful ,if/when we had any questions throughout our stay. Our room on the 9th floor was perfect and our view of the ocean spectacular! Room was very clean and tidy! The housekeepers did an excellent job keeping our room cleaned up and looking fresh our entire stay! Veronica went above and beyond! We Thank You! We did laundry halfway through the week and when we had trouble with the washer, they were right there to offer help and take care of the issue! The only complaint we had the whole time we were there was the temperature in the breakfast room. Was extremely hot and uncomfortable to eat in there. The food was delicious though, we just took it to our room to finish. We will defiantly be back again to stay and spread the word to our family and friends where they should book a room when they visit Virginia Beach...Best Western Plus Sandcastle Beachfront!!!!

« Sandcastle is even better »

We've been staying at the Sandcastle off and on for years. The last time we were there a couple of years ago it was really showing some wear but for the price and location, we love it. Best Western's involvement really shows - greatly needed updates in decor, etc. Clean/friendly helpful staff/good breakfast (except for the eggs) with lots of tables in breakfast area.

    « Tired »

This place is unworthy of the Best Western Name, at least the Best Western I have experienced in Europe. From our arrival, where we waited in line for the next available check in clerk, to one of the two lifts going to our top floor room not working, to the sad motel like quality of the rooms, this place needs tearing down and rebuilding. We were just there for two nights and had many things planned away from the hotel or we would have moved. The included breakfast, for which we were given wristband tokens, took place in a conference room where you grabbed what you could with your plastic plate when you could and sat where you were able - I chose to eat out both mornings rather than attempt this again. The pool, which i had imagined to be outside, is small and enclosed.. the whole place felt dirty and unloved and cheap, which at the prices charged, it is not. I felt let down by Best Western as i expected more from their brand. Needless to say I will not be returning.

« Great oceanfront property, nice value »

Great staff (Betty was the best; super sweet, welcoming, knowledgeable, and helpful), love the modern decor and updated appliances in the room, amazing oceanfront view and boardwalk location (located to the right of the pier on the farther end of the strip so the foot traffic and beach population was pretty minimal compared to being dead center of all the action), tasty & convenient free breakfast buffet (eggs, bacon & sausage, hashbrowns, breakfast pastries, fruit, juices milk & coffee). Areas for improvement: No early check-in so the lines were pretty long at 3pm; but the 4 ladies working the front desk worked as quickly and diligently as possible. The oceanfront balconies are amazing but they're really close to the other surrounding balconies so privacy can be limited if you're out there with other neighbors. The breakfast dining area is nice and bright but looks pretty basic in terms of a welcoming/homey feel. There was a big yellow stain on the top layer of my bedding; I don't believe the sheet wasn't laundered, but housekeeping should be more mindful of removing stained linens from rotation.

I have stayed at this hotel before it became a best western. Things were better before, they changed. It took along time to check in. No coffee was available when we checked out. The breakfast buffet ran out of food. Overall, some nice staff but they appeared to be under staffed .Pull out couch/bed was very uncomfortable. Pool was not heated , very cold.

« Smoking and Repairs Never Mix »

We were celebrating our 7th wedding anniversary and very pleased with our room looking exactly as it did online. There was a fresh smell and it was clean. The bed seemed to be awkward and a little uncomfortable. Our view from the top floor was amazing and would have been more enjoyable if it wasn't for the guests below us smoking. The only other issues were at check-in when we I stood at the counter and wasn't acknowledged by the woman standing there but another young lady that came from the office. The other was our floor was being painted and the men were loud and unprofessional. It was still a beautiful stay and possibly worth another try....Maybe.

    « Great staff experience! »

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We selected this hotel because of the reviews on TripAdvisor. Our room was very clean and the staff was fantastic. Everyone would stop what they were doing when we came into contact with them and smile and ask us how we were doing and offer their assistance if we needed anything. That kind of service for this type of price was such a pleasant surprise. Very happy with this hotel and it's staff. Will gladly return.

    « Beautiful view! »

Clean, well decorated room. Room is a bit cramped but very nice. Nice balcony with gorgeous view of the ocean and a fisherman's pier. Parking ramp is a right squeeze but easy access to room. Check in was easy and staff friendly. Hotel is in a nice location.

Hotel is older. Obvious that attempts are being made to improve, but they are falling behind. One elevator was out the entire stay. Had to wait an eternity for elevator that did work or walk up to 5th floor. One door to parking was broken. Breakfast room was ridiculously hot and worst of all, the sewer pipes from toilet above our room were leaking into our room when room above flushed toilet. Totally gross!!!

We enjoyed our beach front stay with Best Western Plus Sandcastle. Our room was ver clean. The hotel is kid friendly. We did encounter an issue with a neighboring guest during our stay. We called the front desk, they were very responsive and we received a new room right away without question or hesitation. The staff member that came to bring us our new room key even brought us up a luggage cart. His name was Carter, I was very impressed with his customer service. As I was thanking him he said " when you are on vacation there should never be a problem, and we want our guest to be happy". There could not have been a better response. So everything at the hotel was wonderful except one thing that is beyond their control. This hotel seems to be in the flight path of the military Jett's. While we were there they seem to fly over every 5-10 minutes. It's very loud when sitting on the balcony or in the pool area.

    « Friendly and helpful »

« Excellent location with a acceptable level of nosies »

Perfect location with great ocean view. the hotel oversees fishing pier a 9 stores building with inner parking access, very convenient. The formal check-in time is 3pm but reception checked us in around 1pm which is wonderful for my kids preparing for their beach play and changing swimming suits in the hotel room. We were staying at 7th floor, some level of noises came from next door guests or up and down guest rooms. Other than that, we had a pleasant stay.

    « Hotel and Staff »

My family and I have created some great memories here and at the pier. This place could never be replaced. The staff and cleanliness is the best. The view from our room was great. I cannot wait for my next visit where they will hopefully have the new shops open across the street.

    « Summer Family Vacation »

This was our 5th trip to Virginia Beach, but our 1st time staying at the Best Western Plus Sandcastle Beach hotel. Our stay was fabulous!!! All of the staff was very accommodating!!! Even if we didn't need housekeeping services on a particular day the staff made sure we had fresh towels and the trash taken out. We were slightly disappointed to have a first floor room until we were given a larger than average room at the end of the first floor hall!! For our next stay we will request what is now our favorite room at our favorite hotel!!! Also, the buffet breakfast was wonderful and convenient!!!! One last thing....housekeeping found my Fitbit and are mailing it out to me this week!!!!

found our bathroom not clean and our tv not working at check in, called guest sevices and they had someone there in 2 minutes then fixed the problems. I was impressed with the speed of there response and correction of the problem. « Staff are super friendly and helpful! »

We stayed here with two toddlers this past week. The day we checked in our room wasn't ready because they had two housekeepers walk out, but they offered us a key to access the restrooms and pool. They also Gave us 10% discount without us asking! When we had to bring all of our luggage from the 5th floor garage to the 6th floor where we were staying, two very nice gentlemen automatically jumped in and assisted! The rooms were super clean and spacious. Beautiful view from balcony! I will return!

    « Girls Weekend ! »

While I live in the area my friends and I decided to make it a girls weekend and stayed at the Best Western Plus Sandcastle for the Patriotic Festival. We arrived late in the afternoon and while they were very busy the desk clerks greeted us with smiles and quickly got us checked in. We really appreciated the parking garage and the fact that we didn't have to drag all of our things a long distance to reach our room. Once we got to our room we were very pleased. The room and the bathroom were super clean and there were beautiful views of the boardwalk, beach and the pier. There was a lot of activity on the boardwalk from the festival but the room was very quite and the beds were super, super comfortable. This location can't be beat. Right on the beach and close to lots of activities and good food within minutes The staff from top to bottom was accommodating and genuinely seemed happy to help! Will definitely recommend this property. Plans are in the works to come back and stay for the festival again next year !!

« Excellent Hotel Choice on Boardwalk - Great Value! »

My wife and I traveled to Virginia Beach for the first time in May of 2016 and stayed at this hotel. We were very pleased with the friendliness of hotel staff, the hotel location, and a number of key amenities were sought, including free enclosed parking, free Wi-Fi (that stretched all the way out to the ocean), free breakfast, and even free coffee in the lobby 24/7. The hotel was clean and the price was incredibly reasonable. I definitely recommend this hotel!

I brought my children, ages 11 & 13, to Virginia over spring break, 2 nights by Busch gardens and one last minute night at the beach and we absolutely loved it! The staff was very accommodating and helpful, the views of the pier from our room were incredible at sunset and sunrise, the location is ideal for both beach and walking the strip. The room had a full fridge and plenty of room. My kids enjoyed the breakfast options as well. We will definetely plan to be there the whole spring break next year!

    « A pleasant surprise »

We stayed there on Friday 5/27 Memorial Day Weekend. Many of the basic chains in VA Beach have mixed if not poor ratings, this hotel standout from those. -On site Parking was easily accessible and we had no issue finding a spot. -Front Desk staff was friendly and efficient, clerk even looked up my rewards number without me asking. -All staff interaction was very positive and friendly, They all greeted us and asked if we were enjoying our stay. -Breakfast which was included (served in conference room) Looked like restaurant was closed for reno. Was good for a free breakfast, buffet included scrambled eggs, mini omelet's (pre-made), pancakes, bacon, potato's, sausage. Also typical Danish, bagels etc available. -Pool is inside but doors are open to sundeck, not ideal but hotel is on the boardwalk, so hard to complain. -Room was clean, air was on when we entered room which is appreciated. -Only negative was mattress was in bad shape. I did see staff carrying a new mattress into elevator, hopefully they are updating all. Location- Right on Boardwalk which is great, we prefer being a little further North on the Boardwalk, away from rides etc which are nearby. (No noise and the rides are not on boardwalk but across the street and up a couple blocks, just personal preference). - We would stay here again as long as the price is right. If it gets pricey we would stay in the next level up i.e. Marriot/Hilton etc. -Elevators seemed to always have a wait (busy weekend). The higher the floor the longer the wait.

Check in was a bit slow but the facility was nice and clean. It is right on the beach but at the far end of the boardwalk, about a half mile from the main 'strip'. The free breakfast was good and plentiful. Bike and in-line skate rentals on the first floor. Indoor pool is small but clean. Lots of things to do within walking distance.

« Friendly staff, rooms: okay; check in a disappointment »

A mixed review. Good: location, *most* of the staff very friendly and helpful, parking included in price. Comfortable beds. Not so good: Check in: had one of the worst experiences at a check in ever. The young lady asked for my ID which I had accidentally left in the car. I offered a wallet full of credit cards and picture ID and I was told: "Nothing happens unless I see your driver's license". Really? There are about 100 other ways to ask politely for my ID. Being a mom, I said "how about a please?" To which I got a snotty teenager "PLEASE" with enough attitude to fill the hotel. Luckily the other clerk overheard and took care of my when I returned with my ID - that surprise, surprise matched the credit cards and reservation. Hallways: All need a good, deep cleaning. The doors to the garage say they are not accessible without a keycard after 10 pm. Not so. We arrived home at 11 pm from dinner and walked right in. Not the best security. Noise: ALL.NIGHT.LONG. Kids on the boardwalk. Kids on the balconies. Kids in the hallways. Apparently no chaperones or hotel security. Breakfast: Not good. Not even worth it. We took one look and went elsewhere. The buffett was only about half full at 8 am. Room: Lock on door to balcony did not work. TV did not work. Clock/Alarm did not work. Check out: Computers down. So I have to come home and spend my time checking for charges. All in all - this place has a great location but really needs to do some work on the infrastructure. The friendly (minus check in) staff is the only saving grace for this place. My recommendation: Spend a few extra dollars and upgrade to a real hotel.

The location was fantastic with and ocean view from our room. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The beds were not very comfortable, although they were clean. The bathroom was clean and the shower was excellent. The breakfast was the biggest issue with our stay as it was very limited and not worth the time.

    « A good stay »

My boyfriend and I enjoyed our stay for the most part. Easy to check in, friendly staff, nice room (not large but big enough for 2 people), good view of the ocean. The included breakfast was pretty terrible (everything was dry and tasteless) with the exception of the sausage links. The coffee in the room was awful - even with cream and sugar. The hallways are super narrow - not a deal breaker but awkward at times. Didn't use the pool or gym but those looked nice. Easy trip from the room to the parking garage which was great. It's a bit pricey for what it is but we got a clean, comfortable hotel room which is what we needed. I'd stay there again.

« Please read reviews, ask questions before booking »

We were not please with the fact there were no restaurants on premises as promised, no bar as stated in ads, no room service. Picture of motel was old which still showed the best GREEK restaurant in town (Ammos). The restaurant is still in town, Google it for great food and service. This restaurant was a primary reason for choosing this motel, we had stayed here years ago, but will not stay again. Advertising for this motel is wrong. Call the motel and ask questions if you have any expectations other than a room.

    « Enjoyable spring break »

My children and I had an awesome time during spring break (March 2016). It was our first visit to Virginia Beach and we enjoyed the ocean view from our balcony. The beach and boardwalk was clean. There were family friendly activities and shopping in walking distance of the hotel. Not too mention nearby restaurants and shopping at major retail stores in little or less than 10 minutes. The hotel was clean and the staff was very welcoming and accommodating. We look forward to booking our hotel accommodation with Sandcastle again soon.

I'll be honest and say I usually will not consider staying at BW or HJ hotels because of past experiences. I read many reviews on TA about this hotel and being that most where positive I decided to book this hotel for a 2 night stay. We arrived early and where able to check in right away. We where offered several options for a room and landed on the first floor option; being that that is one of the largest rooms in the hotel we chose it. The room was nice and big and also clean. The bathroom is VERY small and leaves a lot to be desired. We settled in and turn the tv on only to find out the room had no cable tv. Went to the front desk and the clerk apologize profusely. Apparently that room was unavailable because of the cable but our check in person did not know that. We where moved to another room in the third floor, not quite as big but the bathroom was tiny just like in the first room. The ceiling in this bathroom was a tile (false) ceiling and the one tile right above the shower head was not sitting properly on the frame and I didn't know if it could fall out. Maintenance was called and they responded right away and replaced it. The next day we came back to the hotel only to find that our room keys have stopped working. So down to the lobby we went to get new ones. Front desk clerk apologized for the inconvenience. We went back upstairs to the room only to find out that housekeeping skipped our room! So down to the lobby we went, AGAIN! We now had to wait until our room was finished to back upstairs. Never mind that we were tired and just wanted to get back to our room. Seemed like 20-30 minutes went by before we could get back in our room; another inconvenience. Later on our room keys stopped working yet AGAIN so... I had high expectations for this hotel when I booked it but was very disappointed by the time we left. I do want to mention 3 people that are part of the staff atthis hotel who went above and beyond to make our stay tolerable; Twan was awesome from the time we arrived to the time we left. This gentleman helped us with our luggage when we first arrived and when we had to move rooms. Always smiling, polite and pleasant, a true customer service gem. Also James and Greg who where also very good at their job. Would I recommend this hotel to anyone? I don't know...maybe, maybe not.

    « Excellent hospitality! »

We've been to this hotel at least 4 times and it is a favorite family getaway. This last time, everything tasted great at the breakfast buffet. Last time the pancakes were off but they worked on it and it was very good. As for our room, we stayed on the 8th floor away from the elevators and ice machines so it was quiet. The balcony is like an extra room- nice place to read and look at the ocean while our kids are in the room enjoying cartoons on the tv. The room is clean, especially the bathroom and the beds are nice and cozy. The staff remembers us now and are always friendly and hospitable when we see them. It seems like they enjoy their jobs and enjoy working there. Whenever we visit this hotel, it is always relaxing and enjoyable, plus affordable!

    « Great Weekend Getaway »

The location of this hotel is perfect! It's right next to the pier. The rooms and pool were clean. The service was great! The only reason I didn't give this Hotel 5 stars is because the bathroom was tiny

    « Not good. »

Wow, our experience with this hotel is not in line with what I read here in trip advisor. .... Felt like I stayed at a different hotel? Where to start....? the pros: Views out the window were nice. and the parking garage was convenient. the cons: The hotel is outdated and dirty. In serious need of an update. Carpets are dirty. Breakfast room is dirty. Overall very outdated. The bathroom is really small, there is no where to put anything to get ready. The air conditioner sounded like gravel was in it. Kept us up all night. We called and asked for it to be looked at while we were gone during the day. We left our room at 11:00 am came back at 11pm. The maids never came and cleaned the room, no fresh towels.. So we called the front desk to get fresh towels and ask about the air conditioner. We were treated horribly, rudely by the front desk. She told me since we were in our room until 11 that they wouldn't clean our room.... The maids were right down the hall when we left? I asked if our air conditioner was fixed. She said she didn't know and told me we would "have to wait and see" and she promptly hung up on me. I tried calling back, she wouldn't answer. I can and have overlooked outdated dirty hotels before when the staff was nice. Not the case here. Probably won't be visiting a best western again.

« ocean view is beautiful »

Loved the location. The staffs were very helpful. We enjoyed the provided delicious breakfast. Got to try the crab cake (ask the front desk staff). Make sure have the curtains closed otherwise, the morning sun will wake you up if you are not a morning person. The room was beautiful and clean. we will stay there again next trip.

« Great stay at the Best Western Sandcastle! »

My friend and I spent a night with our 2 toddlers at the Best Western Sandcastle over this past Mother's Day weekend to attend the Monsters on the Beach monster truck show. We had a really nice stay. The hotel was nice, appears to be an older property that has been suitably renovated/updated. The décor is modern, the parking is very conveniently located on sight. The hotel is perfectly situated along the boardwalk. And as many reviewers have mentioned the oceanfront view is incredible! However, the best thing about this hotel was the staff. Alivia at the Front Desk and Tasha the room attendant were especially wonderful!! So friendly, helpful and attentive. All of the staff we encountered were friendly but these 2 really shined and made our stay so much nicer. Thank you very much. We would certainly return.

« Staff very friendly and helpful »

The hotel was super clean, staff was very friendly and very helpful. The free breakfast was very good and there was plenty of food for everyone. In fact the person I went with is disabled and the worker went out of his way to find a straw for him. The view from the room was spectacular as promised.

« Basic, friendly but disappointing details »

We were in town for a wedding held in the hotel. Our room was basic small, and need cosmetic repairs. Walls had a stain, rust stain in tub, cracks in ceiling. We were not told at booking that the only restaurant/ bar was closed for renovations. That made group get together difficult since we had to go off property for good etc. Breakfast is also basic good for cereal, yogurt, juice and fruit. Sausages was good but I would not eat the eggs as the seemed to be from powder. Treat yourself with going out to breakfast. The hotel staff also neglected to tell us that we were in our direct flight path from the AFB. So being on the 9 the floor and having a 2 year old made napping impossible. It was loud even for adults and frightened our child. Pool was nice and warm. Tile looks new but seating area was dated and sliding glass doors seemed rusty and in need of repair. Saw a maintenance man smoking while attempting to fix something. Not a good impression, plus since it rained our entire stay left us without an option for the pool for one day. Lastly the fire alarms went off at 4 am the morning after the wedding and it was a false alarm. This was frightening and very confusing as staff told people to go back to their rooms before the fire department arrived. The fact is people were confused, tired and frightened and management made no attempt to explain or apologize. Safety comes first and they could have printed a memo about it and left it under people's doors like they do bills. Also, the next day through guest gossip we heard this was the third false alarm caused by a faulty sprinkler in the renovating restaurant. They should have taken this incident more seriously and for Pete's sake fix the problem so people aren't traumatized thinking the hotel was on fire. Not the best memory when you have a small child nor if your family is in town for a joyous occasion as we were for a wedding.

    « Great weekend visit! »

Room was clean & pleasant, and well equipped. Not much extra space, but it worked well enough. We had 4 in the room, and it was tight. For a longer stay, this might get old. By far, the greatest asset is the beachfront view, which is spectacular, with great sunrise watching. The other major convenience is the parking garage, which has an entrance to every floor. This makes it so easy to load & unload the car with a minimum of steps. The breakfast is not terrific. The usual free offerings were picked over and fairly minimal. Overall, this is not a fancy hotel, but it is clean and reasonably priced and offers fantastic beach views & access. That's what we really came for, right?

« Home coming for Naval ship »

We love this hotel. Rooms are all ways clean and neat. People who work there are the best. They all ways greet you when they see you and even remember what you called for if you had a question. Asked for more towels and got them within 5 min. Free Breakfast is a plus. Adding a restaurant off of lobby. We stay at this hotel at Neptune's Festival

    « Loved it »

Amazing view loved the stay. Will definitely stay again. Rooms are very clean. We took a family trip to see the monster truck show for mothers day weekend. The whole family had lots of funn and the day we were to leave we decided to stay another night. We had the king sweet with two queen pull outs. You couldnt go wrong booking a hotel room with them. This room had lots of viwes. The kids loved it and we were all in one area. The staff is wonderful and very nice.

    « A wonderful first vacation! »

We are very happy we picked this hotel, it had very nice and friendly staff. Breakfast had a lot of options, and I enjoyed my pancakes with miniature chocolate chips sprinkled on top with syrup, and it was delicious!! Beds were clean and comfy. We will stay here again!

    « Nothing great »

This hotel was selected by our reunion host. The location is, after a late arrival not near any fast food eateries within walking distance with the exception of a 7/11. The bathroom sink does not have a counter and is very small not allowing any room for toiletries.

    « nice stay »

The room was very nice for the price. I especially love the balcony where I could sit and watch the view of the boats sailing and watch the sun set.. I really enjoyed my stay even though it rained most of the time..

« Wonderful Weekend of Relaxation BWP Rocks! »

The hotel was very chic and clean, all the staff was friendly but Betty Alivia at the front desk wore a smile like she wanted to be there to take care of you, View was fantastic and parking was great. Hotel is right on the boardwalk and close to the pier which made it very convenient for a stroll. The bed and room was comfortable and I loved the balcony view of the ocean. Breakfast was great! Thumbs Up!

    « Leisure trip »

Rooms were very clean and pretty. Hallway carpet could be cleaned. But don't let that scare you away before you get to your room. There was no DVD player. Not a big deal for us though. Clean fridge and microwave was a plus. Hair dryer, iron, ironing board and safe. TV remote was clean. :). Staff was extremely friendly. Fireplaces in lobby sitting area and free coffee. Nice on a chilly day. Would stay here again.

    « Enjoyable experience!! »

Everything was great with the exception of the breakfast for the first two days we stayed. The family that prepared it did a poor job, but by the time we checked out, the hotel had opened a new location and hired new cooks. Hotel is beautiful, clean, and comfortable. I can't wait to return for my next visit.

    « Softball Tournament »

I absolutely loved this hotel! The staff was very friendly and helpful much love to Christy and Betty. We were there for a softball tournament. It was cold outside in April, but the view of the ocean was breath taking from the room. We enjoyed the indoor pool because it was cold outside and it was heated. The location of the hotel is right on the beach and close to shopping and restaurants. The beds were very comfortable and the hotel provided free soap and shampoo dispensers in the shower!! The heat and air conditions worked very well as it was warm during the day but cold at night. The hotel provides free buffet breakfast with hot and cold dishes.

    « We won't stay anywhere else! »

From the moment we checked in until our check out, my wife and I were completely blown away with the level of excellence and attention to detail during our trip. To be honest, I booked this hotel because it was a little cheaper than some others, so my expectations weren't high at all. I was wrong! The hotel (including common areas) was clean and well maintained, everyone we came into contact with was super friendly (Christy, Betty, many others), and the breakfast was first class. The hotel was hosting a few groups for the weekend, but the way the breakfast team stayed on top of making sure that everything stayed stocked and fresh on the buffets, you would have never known. We try to get to Virginia Beach once or twice a year for a weekend recharge. After this weekend, we won't be staying anywhere but the Best Western Plus! Thank you for making our great trip...perfect :-)

    « Family Vacation »

I first stayed at this hotel in the summer of 2013. I have three kids and the room facing the ocean provided plenty of space. The room came with a refrigerator and sink, along with a fold out couch. The free breakfast every morning and free parking were icing on the cake. I will not be staying at any other hotel from now on when I go to Virginia Beach!!!

    « Ups and downs »

My stay wasn't completely disappointing although my room didn't get cleaned by the house maid on the 8th floor and had to be cleaned by the floorman later that evening. The service from Yolanda, James, and Phyllis was superb. You all made out stay memorable. Thank you for doing everything you could to make sure that we enjoyed our stay in your hotel....

    « Good value - great location »

We had stayed at the Best Western down the other end of the beach and thought that's where we made our reservation - so we had a surprise when we arrived! The room we were put in on the 9th floor was gorgeous - obviously just freshly remodeled and the bathroom was a treat - much more modern than the one we'd stayed at prior. The view was spectacular. Being at the other end of the beach this time, we got to explore a new area and that was great! Obviously they were doing renovations as there were a few minor issues. We were initially put on the 9th floor, but when we stepped out on our balcony, the paint fumes from below were quite heavy. We figured it would dissipate, but then when we left to go to dinner, there was a painting crew in our hallway and they planned to be there for the next two days. The front desk clerk apologized and said she thought they were done up there so when we came back from dinner we had another room on the 4th floor. That room was a little bit disappointing. She had mentioned that she'd had a difficult time finding a room for us as there was a senior softball tournament in town. We wondered if perhaps they asked someone to move to let us have that room as it was not as clean as I felt it should have been. My husband noticed the carpet - and that's not normal for him! The other odd thing is that there was no bar soap - there was a liquid soap dispenser in the tub/shower - so to wash your hands you had to reach into the shower to get soap. The shampoo is also that way. The faucet in the bathroom was an automatic faucet - the water turned on and off automatically so you had to wait for it to warm up and then if you moved, it turned off. The third day we were there housekeeping did not come to our room and when we called later that evening we were told that we'd had the 'do not disturb' sign on the door - which we did until 11:30 a.m. If they had a chart that said we'd had the sign on the door, I would expect someone would have been back to check that later? Two young men came to our room and brought us fresh towels, cleaned the bathroom, emptied the trash and offered to change the sheets or make the bed, but we told them that was okay - as it was 8:00 p.m. and we were leaving the next morning. They were really sweet and quite apologetic. The breakfast was served on the 2nd floor in what apparently were meeting/conference rooms - I'm guessing due to the remodeling. The breakfast itself was good - it definitely was not what you get get at Hilton or Marriott but it was good. Eggs, cheese omelets, sausage, pancakes, fruit, yogurt, cereal. They had oatmeal but it was instant oatmeal and I'm not sure where the hot water was or how you were supposed to make it. It was a little disorganized - again I'm guessing because of the remodeling -for example, the coffee was at one end of the counter and the cream was all the way at the other end. I had pancakes, but I never could find the syrup. I was a little concerned the second morning when someone asked for milk and she was directed to little cartons of milk like we got in grade school because they noticed the milk they had yesterday was expired. The staff taking care of the breakfast area were very nice, polite and I think struggling to work in the limited space they had. One other thing - noise - the doors are so heavy they're hard to open and then it sounds like a bomb going off when they slam closed. It's obvious they're trying to update and hopefully some of the things that appear to be done, really aren't yet. Overall, once the renovations are completed, this will be a lovely place - the staff are very courteous and accommodating. The location is fabulous. We will most likely stay here again.

    « Great Stay! »

I absolutely loved this hotel! The staff was very friendly and helpful. I think we most enjoyed the indoor pool, especially the kiddie pool. Most hotels we have stayed in recently did not have a kiddie pool so this was a great treat for the kids! It was also heated very nicely. The location of the hotel is also very great. The beds were very comfortable in the room and I loved, loved, LOVED how they provided free soap and shampoo dispensers in the shower!! I thought that was very neat and had never seen that done before. The hotel does provide free buffet breakfast but we were a bit disappointed in it. There was not a lot of variety and most of what we had was cold. Overall, I'd definitely recommend the hotel and plan to go back!

    « We had a wonderful time! »

Our room was very clean, easy access to the pool, ice machine, elevators, the pier, board walk, food places, etc. The breakfast was very convenient and overall the hotel was very kid and family friendly.

« An excellent hotel worthy of money »

It was my fourth time to stay in this hotel. I love the beautiful hallway decoration and spacious oceanfront view room. The bedding are comfortable, but it seems to need thicker comforter for winter time. I enjoyed the fitness center. My family also liked the hot breakfast with a variety of choices. The hotel staff was very helpful when the maintenance team forgot to do the room service. Overall, I strongly recommend this hotel and will stay again when I visit VA beach.

« Rude nasty and smelly »

I just don't have anything nice to say. Screwed up my reservation, lobby smelled, employees were rude and arrogant, room smelled, internet sucked. I tried resolving issues and staff could care less. If I could've I would have walked out and went to a different hotel. This is my first and last time I will ever stay in a Best Western.

    « A nice hotel »

We enjoyed the hotel. But HATED the parking garage. We had a regular size truck and we had a rough time fitting! We also did not like that the tables at the restaurant for breakfast were very dirty and none clean when we went down to get breakfast so the first morning we never got breakfast. :( but we LOVED the view. The staff was all so very friendly and smiling!

« Customer service was ok but the quality and condition considering the fee was very disappointing. »

I arrived late in the evening due to bad weather and poor road conditions. When I was checking in, my card was charged double the rate I was meant to be charged for the night - luckily I knew better to review the receipt before walking away from the counter. The manager refunded me the 'accidental' overcharge - apparently the desk attendant didn't realize the rate had changed when she was billing me. I arrived in my room and as the weather was bad the door to the balcony was shaking the entire night - you would think being a beachfront property they would have weather proofing on these doors but you could literally feel the wind through the door and it kept me up the entire evening. I could hear the people in the room with the adjoining wall well into the early morning. I requested to be moved into a different room for the next evening on the side of the hotel to avoid the noise of the door. In my new room I found stained sheets and pillow cases - not what I expect for over $100 a night... I can't say I would make this my first choice should I return to VA Beach.

    « Enjoyed my visit »

My husband and I recently stayed with this Best Western and the room and service was great! The staff, Betty and Alivia were excellent in helping with our booking and information on the area. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was included with the room and was hot and offered a variety of items. We plan to stay here again in July!

Can't wait. The location of the hotel is amazing, walking distance and beautiful area.

On, Friday there was lady who got arrested and was drunk in the lobby and my children had to see that, but other wise. It was a good stay. Everyone enjoyed their stay but thought there was a hot tub, but it was a kiddie pool. But everyone still had a great time. The beds were very comfortable. The lady at the front desk was very nice. Very nice layout for bridal shower and wedding reception. Very accommodating with usage of the facility and staff was very pleasant/helpful. My family and I were able to get a great room to stay at the last minute for the wedding. The managers were very pleasant and made sure everything was great. The food buffet for breakfast was good and there was plenty to eat. The Atlas staff was friendly and assisted our needs during breakfast. We will return again for vacation..

    « Very Accomadating »

Really nice stay of the price! Apparently I booked a partial view room and the hotel staff graciously upgraded me to a full ocean front room upon checkin. The breakfast to me was a bonus, I knew it wouldn't be top quality but great for kids. My son really enjoyed it. Please be sure to have cash and leave a tip! They work extreamly hard. The business center came in handy to print out tickets I purchased online during my stay. The pools was nice as well. My only complaints will be the noise. There is not much you can do about other people. I also think a little more dedication can be placed on hotel security. Our room was very close to a garage door entrance that stayed unlocked throughout the day. I feel these door should be locked at all times, but accessible with a key.

    « Amazing customer service »

I'm going to keep this brief but I happened to stay at 2 different Best Western hotels with 2 VERY different experiences. I will leave the negative comments with the hotel review. The customer service was amazing! The front desk clerk Yolanda went above and beyond to help resolve the issues. I booked a room via Agoda.com (referral site from my employer's discount program.) and somehow they booked and confirmed a room that was NOT available. Actually the info was never sent over. In the midst of training a new employee, dealing with other disgruntled customers with similar booking issues, and being understaffed she took the time to call the agency and straighten out the issues. We weren't able to get the accommodations that we originally booked but she went ABOVE and BEYOND to make sure we had the best experience possible given the circumstances. I felt she truly empathized with our situation. All of the staff was polite and courteous! The rooms were clean and any other questions or concerns that we had were addressed right away! The indoor pool was nice, although my 7 year old daughter that can't swim didn't get much enjoyment with the shallow end being 4ft deep and the kiddie pool being too small. Plus some kid threw-up in the pool and it had to be shut down early. I will come back for future visits and recommend to my friends and family!

    « Great stay »

    « Resurrection Weekend »

This weekend was about Easter and the Resurrection of our Christ. From day one of our stay to our departure, the staff at Sandcastle made us feel at home. It was truly an enlightening experience! Accommodations were delightful and more than worth the price.

« Not as good as the last visit »

Our first visit to Va Beach and stay at Best western Sandcastle was exceptional! Had a blast! Unfortunately our second stay wasnt as pleasant. We made arrangements a month in advance and requested the same room from our previous stay; however, were given a similar room 2 floors down - not happy. The room was extremely musty, it was constant noise and traffic in the halls due to the multiple functions that were occurring at the hotel, and the bed was very uncomfortable as it had a large dip in the center of the mattress. It didnt matter what position you tried to get comfortable in it wasnt happening. I was so happy that my 5 day vacation stay had come to end as I was looking forward to a decent night's sleep in a comfortable bed - my bed. Love the location of the hotel;however, unsure if I'll be staying here again.

    5
    « Truly wonderful experience »

Stayed one night and the room was attractive, clean and roomy. The staff was very welcoming and helpful, even helping us find a great nearby restaurant when we arrived at 9 pm. The breakfast was good, and waiters filled our drinks and cleaned up our place, unlike may other free breakfasts. The view is spectacular, access to the beach and a fishing pier within yards of the hotel, the location perfect. The lobby is inviting. The only Negative I have was the hallway carpet was dirty, and the tiles in front of the elevator needed to be cleaned. Every other space was great! Will definitely be returning.

    5
    « 5 Star Customer Service »

Overall experience here was awesome. Hotels are hotels. All have good points as well as not so good. Maybe the room wasn't cleaned to perfection, or some scuffs here and there. Overlooked. Every single employee we passed, spoke and welcomed us. Front desk, cleaning staff, maintenance, and all inquired if every thing was satisfactory. Yolanda and Betty, at front desk, were some of the best we have encountered in our travels. We also happened upon the owner, David, who spent 30 minutes talking with us regarding his views on customer service. He has obviously empowered his employees to be the best they can be. Yes, there are other hotels on the beach, however if you want a positive experience, this is the one

    3
« Great location, nice rooms, fabulous view, crappy breakfast »

We in March and got an ocean front room. Fabulous views and very comfortable room. It was not the most clean place. The hallways were VERY narrow and the carpeting was disgusting. The elevators rarely worked and were often "held" at upper floors. Check in took about 15 min. (which staff said was unusual). The indoor pool area was not very clean. Breakfast was a HUGE dissapointment. The dining area was dingy and felt very dirty. The buffet was out of most of the items. The pancakes stuck to to the bottom of the pan consistently making it impossible to get a pancake without shredding it. The fruit was not replenished the entire time we were there. Overall, the location and view makes this place very appealing. However, just skip the breakfast and wear shoes!

    3
« No hot tub and lounge »

The experience overall was great except their website is misleading. There was not a lounge to order dinner and drinks, as stated and there is not a hot tub or heated pool. Everyone in the pool complained. Other than that, it was an okay stay.

    « Absolutely top notch! »

I'm a pilot and stay at my share of hotels, and this is by far one of the best best western hotels I've stayed at the staff was 5 star! Betty and Olivia of customer was absolutely stellar, I could only wish more hotels had the two! Rooms were immaculate and cleaning staff did a fantastic job! I will be staying here next time I'm here!

    5
« Never stay anywhere else!! »

You cant beat this welcoming enviornment. We are never dissapointed and in all the years it has only gotten better. Enjoy their complimentary breakfast in the morning then work out with a full view of the beach. You can chose to chill out in their indoor pool with a sun bathing deck or you can soak up the rays on the beach. Both just steps out of your room. This location is ideal not only for the pier and beach access but being in the middle off all the best Va Beach has to offer. No doubt we will be back next time and every visit to come.

    « Spring Break Getaway »

My husband and I had a very enjoyable 2 night stay at the Sandcastle during spring break. Olivia, Betty and all the staff were quite friendly. Veronica did a great job cleaning our room and making sure we had everything we needed. The breakfast was nice. My favorite breakfast foods are grits and pancakes. So I felt right at home. We enjoyed the indoor pool, being able to check our email, and free coffee in the lobby. We look forward to our next visit.

« Disappointed to say the least »

We were so excited to be at the beach for the first time in many years.... The hotel is pretty in the lobby and the room was nice at first glance. The restroom door doesn't latch and it's so tiny that there is no room to turn around. The drop ceiling is in pretty bad shape. The breakfast bar is the nastiest food I have ever tried to consume. The biscuits are rock hard, the sausage gravy was so runny and had no taste the canned fruit was old it had a metallic taste. The lady working there told me that she wasn't sure if her license from the health department would be renewed and she wasn't sure if they would even be open the next day! When I talked to the girls at the front desk they said that was not the case that they were in the process of getting rid of the restaurants owners and would have their own breakfasts soon. But until they have their breakfast up and running we the consumer are forced to eat free nasty food or pay for breakfast at a restaurant even though the hotel says they have free breakfast. I think if they know it's bad they should make arrangements to help their guests with breakfast!

« Amazing!!! Perfect weekend getaway! »

The people at the service desk were so welcoming and very helpful ( Yolanda and Betty were awesome). Also the room that we stayed in had an amazing view. The cleaning staff was also very accommodating and friendly. It was absolutely perfect for a weekend getaway with my significant other!

Staff was very nice, Room was clean. I had a hard time getting the internet to work in the room, but it worked fine in the lobby. They had a nice bagged breakfast for the Shamrock runners, which was a nice surprise.

    « Very accommodating »

Looking for a one night get away at the oceanfront. We needed a room to go to after a night of drinking and Brittani was super accommodating. She gave us a rooftop room for a great price. Also informed us of late check out at 1pm which was perfect after a night of drinking. The free breakfast also hit the spot. Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a clean affordable place to sleep while staying at the oceanfront.

    « A quick trip »

The room was nice and the few is great, We were unaware that after a certain time the doors in the garage on the 5th locked which was where our room was so we ended up makeing a trip to the front desk thinking our key had stopped working but, besides that the stay was well.

« Love the hotel, love the customer service! We'll be back »

We love this place so much that we extended our stay twice! Yolanda and Betty have been an amazing daytime team and accommodated us to the fullest - smiles and friendly folk. Amazing view and elegant room on the top floor, facing the beach.

« Sooo disapppointed this trip that we may never return... »

My husband and I have been here for three vacations and decided to take an early trip this year. My daughter had just fought 10 months with stage 4 cancer and we needed a break... Being that we cannot swim in the ocean this year we were disappointed to find out the pool was closed, and during reservations wasn't told ahead of time. Only one elevator was working for all nine floors of the hotel. Waiting for the elevator to reach our room on the 9th flr took up to 15 minutes each time we left, very frustrating... They also gave us a room in front of the stairs which its door bangs so loud the walls shock and this happened a few times per hour. We hardly slept the entire five days there. The mattress was old and not firm like other rooms we've been in there. Only one lightbulb out of four was working in the bathroom and so lighting for my contacts was an issue. The food downstairs is not the same and doesn't meet there normal PLUS status. It is all powdered eggs, rubbery pancakes and nasty coffee. NOTHING like the last two years! It just felt like they didn't care this visit about the hotel. I loved this place and now I hate it.

    « Cheer leading Competition »

The location is great for the competition and the hotel was very accommodating. We had dinners and lunch delivered to us and served in a conference room which was great for our group. It is within walking distance to the Convention Center and Church. This is our 2nd year at this hotel and will stay again next year if the girls compete.

« Our first family vacation »

I would recommend staying at this Best Western Plus to anyone. The staff is extremely accommodating, the rooms are well kept, and the view from our balcony was breathtaking. I went to sleep every night listening to the waves crash onto the shore and woke up every morning to see a beautiful sunrise on the ocean.

« Very Satisfied With Our Visit »

We enjoyed our stay at Sandcastle Beachfront Hotel very much. The staff were extremely friendly and anxious to accommodate any and all requests. The breakfast was very good, plenty of food and a large seating area. The rooms were large and very clean. We were very pleased and will gladly stay there again.

    « good time »

I had a nice time staying on the oceanfront and the hotel was definitely nice. I will be going back. I enjoyed the comfort of the room and the amenities that were in the room were on hand and available.

    4
« Location and Substance On the Beach »

Near the fishing pier and on the water the location is perfect. Indoor parking with direct access to your floor makes for security as well as convenience. Breakfast is better than at most inclusive motels. Our oomph was spacious and the refrigerator and TV were new. All in all, you can do a lot worse and spend more.

    4
« Just to get away »

The room was very nice, clean and spacious. Ocean view with balcony. Plenty of clean towels, shampoo and body wash. There was facial quality soap and body lotion on the sink. I found nothing wrong as everything was in order for a nice get away. Also there was a large flat screen TV. The attendant Yolanda at the front desk was more than helpful and was very informative and friendly. She made you feel at home from the moment you got there.

« Loved My Getaway Week! »

I was highly satisfied with my stay at Best Western Plus. I wanted a week of leisure and even though I went during the off season, I got the same service as if I was there during the summer. I was on the 9th floor and had an oceanfront view. I would recommend not getting a room by the elevator though, a lot of noise around that area but that is to be expected. Loved my stay and can't wait to come back!

    « AMAZING VIEW :) »

OMG!!! Had the most amazing stay here. View from my room was breath taking was able to have coffee on my balcony and watch the sunrise and set and listening to the ocean so peaceful. Will definitely stay again :) The Staff were amazing and very friendly and helpful. Alivia, Betty, Antwan, the new housekeeper on the 5th floor (keep up the good work) and the other two front desk ladies ( i can't remember their names) loved the ones nails and helpful hints on where to go with no Grand kids :) and the other one checked me in and upgraded me :) The hotel lobby is beautiful, the room was huge :) The only down fall is there breakfast :( I knew that before I stayed there by the other reviews that I read..The sound of the jet fighters flying above my Grandson's enjoyed :) The fish tank I could not get them away from..Just over all great stay and it was my first time in Virginia and you all made it amazing..Thank you :) The pool was being renovated but the gift shop rents out family style bikes so that made up for that :)

    « Best Western Plus »

Hotel was fine, but not pet friendly and when we booked thru HotWire it said that it was. Pool was also closed. Breakfast was okay, but not excellent. Good location as we had a full view of the beach.

    « front desk rudeness »

The Hotel itself was nice, but way TOO HIGH for what we got, if you do stay, don't plan on asking to extend your stay. It was absolutely like pulling teeth, they did nothing to help. If I wanted to stay another night in the same room (god forbid) I had to reregister, come downstairs AND the added night was $15 higher... If i had a choice, I would have packed things and left!

    5
« Best stay in a very long time »

All the employees at this Best Western went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. They treated us like they have known us all our lives. The front desk clerk asked what the purpose of visit and I told them it was our first anniversary. We checked in and went to our room; and when we was leaving the hotel heading out for dinner our names were on the marquee wishing us a Happy Anniversary. We will definitely stay here again.

    4
    « Weekend Getaway »

My only complaint about this location is the parking garage. It is not user friendly as the ramps are narrow and steep. The turning radius' for entering and exiting the ramps to get to the parking areas are very tight and there are cars parked nearly in the lanes of travel. I think some updates or re-measures could be make for safety and convenience. Otherwise, the room was very nice and clean and the staff very friendly. Breakfast not bad, basic, but not bad. Great Location to pier and other local activities.

    5
    « Quick Family Getaway »

We wanted a quick trip to the beach with the kids. The Best Western is always our hotel of choice. The rooms are clean and spacious. The staff if always friendly and helpful. « Great place with terrific views! »

We came for a family event and stayed for five days. Really enjoyed the entire experience! Very friendly and helpful staff, convenient and delicious daily breakfast, super clean and attractive room with all the amenities. We had an ocean view and watched dolphins swim by every afternoon! Would definitely return!

    « Now that's a Getaway »

This Valentine's Day getaway with my wife we decided to stay here. The accommodations were perfect and the staff was very helpful and friendly. When reserving the room I chatted with Jason having small talk saying "This has been a long awaited date with my wife. We have very opposite work schedules and 2 kids-so we were really looking forward to relax together and enjoy the weekend," which we did thanks to you guys! The room had a great view of the ocean and pier. The room was clean, comfortable and very well designed. Kitchenette was perfect for our leftovers from our dinner date and with a touch of detail Jason left us a note to enjoy our stay with a bottle of wine on the desk. Now that's a getaway! Thank you. Ken G.

I just wanna mention front desk staff Betty, Yolanda, Veronica housekeeping, great customer service skills, Betty is a piece of work ?? in a good way. she's very customer friendly & inviting so is Yolanda. Both these beautiful women treat you as they've known you forever. Yolanda & Betty are the two main reasons we continue staying @ The best western plus sand castle. We also love how the facilities were remodeled. Well done with the renovation of the sand castle. I'm also glad the poor area is now under construction.

    « Pretty good »

The staff is pretty nice. The breakfast was perfect for me in the morning before I headed off to work, and the staff is excellent. Didn't use the pool (and half of my stay it was being renovated). Fitness room is small, but adequate, and has a great view of the beach. Room is nice with an excellent bed.

    « Business »

The rooms were clean and comfortable. However, the morning breakfast needs improvement. We were in line for over twenty minutes waiting to get food. The severs were polite and helful, but they were clearly overwhelmed by the poor serving conditions.

I would like to say," that my husband and I really enjoy our stay every year in May and October. We always come back twice a year one for our anniversary, and birthday which is this year 2016. I really enjoy our view in which we get oceanfront always, and the view is just spectacular. This year I am planning on bringing my mom with me so that she can enjoy the view and scenery as much as we do. Sharon

    « Bad "Vibe" Hotel »

I would not recommend this hotel to any of my friends/family as they do not deliver the items advertised on the website. Please check with the hotel before booking, as many of the services like "Full Breakfast", "Pool", etc. are non-existent.

View was great....the room was very accommodating and cozy. The front desk staff however were not people friendly at all during checkout....at check in around 9pm the lady was great and friendly the others just act like they don't enjoy what they do and dread being there. But overall good stay

« Excellent location, lovely room, fantastic customer service »

We stayed in an oceanfront room for a weekend a couple weeks ago. Loved the room, it was very clean, spacious with many amenities. The weather was very mild so we were able to enjoy the balcony as well. It was a perfect getaway weekend and look forward to a return visit soon. It is a perfect location on the boardwalk, we were able to enjoy the Christmas lights from our balcony. We also enjoyed going right thru the lobby to a nice little restaurant for breakfast. Our grandkids gave the weekend a "10"---let's do it again soon!

« Wonderful Service and Great View »

A very helpful staff and oceanfront view made for a very enjoyable stay. Hotel serves excellent fresh breakfast. Our room was spacious, had mini fridge, safe, and extremely clean. Manager welcomed us which was a surprise. As good as some of the four star hotels in Norfolk.

    3
« Breakfast not up to par »

Daily hot breakfast at Best Western is typically good & worth it, not at Sandcastle in Virginia Beach. The same so-so foods were served EVERY day of our visit. Not much of a variety, nor quantity offered. One in our party enjoyed the non-runny eggs, but that was all that could be praised. They even ran out of regular tea bags during our stay.

    4
« Virginia Beach, Dream Bowl Weekend »

Nice hotel, could use a hot tub. That being said, very comfortable bed and spacious room. Yolanda at the front desk was awesome and helpful. Another drawback was the parking ramp, have a pickup truck and the ceiling is very low, and nearly scraped the top, the spaces are very tight. Breakfast wasn't bad but could use some variety, different meats selection would be good!

    5
    « GREAT RESTING PLACE »

can't be no better place to stay. this hotel is the greates place to stay every cause; 0f it location on the beachfront right next to the fishing peer, and I do love to fish ,also my wife love to set out on the bal.to feel the air of the ocean ,we been staying here for the last five years; on the same floor almost the same room; second floor room 203 or 204 every year we come back . we will be coming back'

    « Excellent customer service »

I was pleasantly surprised by the customer service that I received while staying at the Best Western Plus Sandcastle Beachfront Hotel. Upon check in Alivia was very helpful and answered every question that I had about the room, parking, local restaurants and Va Beach in general. The rooms are modest but clean, the housekeeping staff are diligent in cleaning the room and providing extra towels or other items needed for a couple days stay. I was attending a seminar and the ballroom was very large and faced the beach. Coffee and tea was available 24/7, the hotel had a great exercise room with new equipment. The elevator was a little bouncy but they were working on it. Betty helped me at check out and she was also very efficient and helpful. Overall I had a enjoyable stay.

    5
    « A Pleasant Surprise »

Everything from the location to the room to the view of the beach was perfect. We may have missed out on breakfast due to over sleeping, but it was nice to have such a service offered. I also liked that coupons were provided for surrounding restaurants. I definitely plan to book a room with you all for future visits.

    3
    « Best Western »

This hotel is average over all. Newly renovated areas were cold and dusty. The food in the hotel resturant was sub par and the service yucky. The fish in the tank looked hungry and should be left in the ocean.

« Personnel at Best Western Sandcastle »

I want to thank Betty at the front desk for helping me change my arrival and departure dates due to a need to attend a funeral in my hometown . My arrival was scheduled for 1/7/16.I contacted Priceline, they contacted Betty and all went well. I arrived 1/9/16 and left 1/12/16 with new problem or rate increase. Hotel location was perfect for me to visit my friends in Virginia Beach. The parking was free, room faced the beach, the people who made and served breakfast were friendly, the boardwalk was set up, and measued for a morning jog.All went well. Thanks again , Betty..

« Enjoying the stay every time »

It was my third time to stay in this hotel because it satisfied all my needs. The hallway display was beautiful and lovely. My room has a oceanfront view which I enjoyed the sunrise and dolphin view. The room is spacious and clean. The bedding are comfortable, but it seems to need thicker comforter for winter time. My son enjoyed the heated pool as well as the fitness center. My family also liked the hot breakfast with a variety of choices. The hotel staff was very helpful and considerate to give me a late check-out as well as the VA aquarium recommendation. Overall, I strongly recommend this hotel and will stay again when I visit VA beach.

« I got a really good deal on a suite. Great room. Ocean view. Jacuzzi right in the room. Wonderful couple of days! »

The room was very attractive and clean. There were a lot of nice details like fancy sinks, an extra large microfridge that had both 12 oz and 16 oz soda/beer can/bottle holders. Free ice. Buffet breakfast included in what was a very low price considering the luxurious accomodaions. The view is not only over the ocean, so sunrise was very beautiful, but the hotel is situated right over the fishing pier and so just a short walk downstairs and across the boardwalk and you have a romantic walk down the pier and another great spot for taking pictures (the other being from the balcony, which, being on the 9th floor affords you a lot of privacy). Great place to take that special someone for a romantic getaway.

    « Could be better »

Not clean. Bed wasn't made, cleaning of floors did not occur. Elevator bell dinged all night each night. The swimming pool was fun but cold. breakfast was very subpar. internet kept going out while watching movies. The only thing this place had going for it was the excellent view of the beach.

« Very Nice Hotel for the Price »

I did have an issue with breakfast but that was not a deal breaker thank you Yolanda and Betty for a wonderful stay...

« Nice for the most part »

We spent this past Wednesday through Saturday at the Sandcastle and for the most part it wasn't bad. Had one decent bed and the other was like trying to sleep on concrete. The toilet in room 504 definitely needs some work and so does the door mechanism on the inside that keeps hitting every time it is opened. The staff was wonderful, very helpful. The breakfast on the other hand was absolutely HORRIBLE. We actually choose to go to McDonald's the second day rather then eat there. The waitress who handles the breakfast was very sweet though. Would consider coming back if they made some improvements.

    2
    « Didn't exceed expectations »

Room décor was nice and it is conveniently located ocean front. However, the room was dusty and had noticeable chips in the furniture. The toilet seat was barely attached in our room (415) and there was NO hot water for showering. The complimentary breakfast was of poor quality (hard sausages, overcooked eggs, NO WAFFLE MAKER as stated on their website). The complimentary breakfast also stated to tip your waitress which I thought was a huge turn off. Overall it was a good place to stay due to location and room décor but don't expect to be "wowed".

« NO HOT WATER FOR SHOWER -- BED WAS UNCOMFORTABLE »

Woke up with back killing me from cheap, lumpy, sagging mattress -- decided to take hot shower to help with the pain. No hot water -- lukewarm. Mentioned it at the desk and was told I probably was turning it the wrong way. Second night .... no hot water ... (there was no other way to turn it) mentioned it upon check-out ... first person at desk said ... I will let them know. Questioned second desk person ... and she said they probably turned it down from too many complaints about it being too hot (OK .. do I really look that stupid?) I suggested it was turned down to save them money .... all I got was .. I will let them know. They do not care if you are happy or not ... and it is apparent that this is an ongoing problem ... as they all have the same robotic answer.

I stay at the BEST WESTERN PLUS Sandcastle Beachfront Hotel every time I so happen to be in Virginia Beach. It's a great hotel and I love it there! Located in an area where everything is accessible so you're set! The little mall is great and since it's right by the beach its amazing. We would look out on the balcony every morning when the sun is rising to see dolphins jumping from the water.

I have stayed at this hotel multiple times in the past. My favorite room is 901. It has a whirpool tub in the room seperate from the bathroom. The hotel also provides a hot buffet breakfast. I highly recommend this hotel. Contact Stephanie if you want to be taken care of by a professional.

« "Sorry, Long Overdue Review" »

This was a surprise for my 60th birthday from my daughter that lives in NYC. My daughter communicated with the staff several times before my arrival and they made my stay memorable. The little restaurant was good and the staff were so nice. I really felt like a celebrity during my stay. There were two ladies at the front desk that I will always remember for their BIG part in my surprise. When I opened the room door the ocean was right there and it was truly breath taking. Thank you Christy and Yolanda, I'm so sorry for the months that have passed. Happy New Year !!!!!

This is me and my husband's (we're newlyweds); second year staying at the Best Western Sandcastle Hotel for the holidays. The property and staff are amazing!! From the moment we checked in with Betty and throughout our extended stay processed by Stephanie; we were treated the best care. The rates are affordable and reasonable. We had such a great time, that we're looking into another trip soon within the next 3-4 months with our families. A sincere thank you to Stephanie, Betty and staff at the Best Western, you guys are the best!!!!!!!

« Breakfast ruined an otherwise enjoyable stay »

Check in/out staff were friendly. Room was very roomy/nice and clean, needed some repair to wall in bathroom. View from boardwalk room of all the Christmas lights was spectacular. Breakfast was a complete disaster. The buffet style food was dried our inedible reheated crunchy pancakes and rubbery disgusting scrambled eggs. Even the coffee tasted terrible. The employees were in street closes and hid out in the kitchen. That was understandable based on the lack of quality of the food. We then checked out with a nasty taste in our mouths and hungry kids to feed.

« Great hotel, great price!!! »

Our 3rd visit here in 4 months! Our favorite mini-vacation hotel. We only live two hours away, so it is a perfect place for a quick getaway. We plan to visit many more times next year. Staff are friendly and professional- front desk, housekeeping and maintenance. (Yolanda, Betty and others) Even just passing by, they are polite and say hi. This visit we were surprised to get discounted tickets at the front desk to the Mc Donald's Holiday Light Show and Seaside Christmas Village for only $10 instead of $20! The hotel is very clean. Free coffee, tea and hot cocoa at the hotel lobby. Exercise room looks out to the ocean. DH enjoyed working out there. Love the free breakfast at the restaurant (although the pancakes could be a different batter). Our oceanfront room has 2-queen beds and a balcony. We sit out on the balcony to eat, read and just hangout- perfect for when our kids are watching loud Sponge Bob in the room and we don't want to hear or watch it. We always wake up to watch the sunrise on the balcony. I can't say enough nice things about this hotel. We've told our friends about going there. And we look forward to our next visit in January!

Really a great experience at the Virginia Beach hotel, lots of activities and the holiday lights and decorations were very impressive. Local area and the beaches very convenient. Parade and marathon on the broadwalk make the trip more exciting.

This hotel spared no expense to help my son who is disabled feel welcome and have a room that had the space for him to move around. The staff was friendly and went over and above to insure our family was taken care of fairly. Thank you!

    « One night stay Thanksgiving 2015 »

My husband and I were passing through on our way to Maryland and decided to stay at this hotel Thanksgiving night. We grabbed a reservation through Trip Advisor for a good price. It was around 10 pm and check in was quick and easy. The check in clerk was very professional and also told me everything I needed to know. i.e. Where the pool is, where vending and ice are and how to get on the wifi. We ended up in a king room on the 3rd floor with a small balcony. Nice and clean, semi-soft comfy bed and a big bathroom. The only complaint I have is the service at breakfast. You have to ask them to bring you drinks. After waiting 15 minutes, I had to flag someone down to get our drink order placed and it took a very long time for them to bring our drinks back.

I was referred to the Best Western from a friend I had an amazing time. I booked the King deluxe, this room was absolutely beautiful. The customer service was outstanding from the front desk (Yolanda and Betty) were very professional and friendly. Phillip was great he helped me with my things and was very sweet. The view was breathtaking and the breakfast was wonderful I definitely will spread the word about this establishment and I will also be back thanks to Best Western and their wonderful staff.

This hotel is located right on the beach with excellent staff and located on the boardwalk. We attended in the off season and unfortunately there were some type of bugs living in the room. We were given another room which was bug free.

    « Weekend getaway »

This hotel was great for our mini getaway. Friendly front desk staff, nicely decorated room. Only down sides were I assume we were close to the stairs as we heard the slamming of a heavy door and loud talking on and off throughout the night. Also, the bathrooms are pretty small. The view from the room was beautiful and made for a peaceful stay.

« Decent Hotel on the Beach »

Very good location on the beach. Hotel is not that attractive from the exterior, but OK inside. All rooms face beach and boardwalk. No issues except for internet - had to log in again several times. Decent breakfast - nothing special, could have used more fruit.

Had a good nights stay. Everything was fine. Staff was friendly and check in and out was quick and easy. The bathtub had a drip. The parking garage is very tight. Taller vehicles might not fit. Great view and a beautiful sunrise. I would stay here again.

I took my special someone on a weekend getaway, this hotel being recommended by a friend. The staff was amazing. Up to date furnishings with a STUNNING view and an amazing breakfast to start the day!!! The hotel, room and bathroom was immaculate in cleanliness. Special thanks to the front desk lady, Yolanda Garza, who made sure I had everything I needed and more!! I will definitely be back to stay again.

Right on the ocean, but with a nice indoor pool & sunbathing area too. Rooms are comfortable & nicely furnished. Breakfast was okay. Eggs, sausage, pancakes. Limited fruit (sliced oranges only). Very nice breakfast area. Clerks at front desk were very friendly & accommodating. Easy, free parking in the attached ramp. Wifi was free & worked fine.

« nice view.. nice hotel »

first thing is that we had an ocean view.. and it was spectacular.. the only problem i had was that we had a small bathoroom.. so small, that the sink was on the outside. A nice flatscreen, microwave, and refrig were in the room.. beds were comfortable as were the 6 pillows given. MY other pet peeve was that they turned off their wireless connection at abou 6 am the day of my 11 am checkout. Room was clean etc

« Great Service - Great Price - Great Deal »

I recently stayed here on a weekend getaway at the beach. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful from the front desk to the cleaning and maintenance staff. The room was clean and all of the basic amenities provided. I think it was a great deal for the price and I would definitely say we had a great time, in part, because we had a wonderful experience at this hotel.

« Nice, clean hotel right on the beach »

Not the newest or fanciest or most posh hotel....but it's clean, the staff is fabulous and it's a great place to stay when you want beachfront. Recently remodeled, the rooms are spacious and each has a balcony overlooking the beautiful white sand. Breakfast buffet is included with eggs, sausage, cereal, fruit and other deliciousness like grits, biscuits and gravy. This is my second time to stay here and I'll be back again next October. The staff goes out of their way to make sure you are satisfied. The sunrises you can watch right from your balcony are incredible.

I really enjoyed my stay the elevators were fast, the employees were very polite and helpful, the rooms were very clean as were the balconies and the furniture. I loved the view of the ocean, everything worked. They even had to do a fire alarm test and they called us to let us know what was happening so we didn't need to panic. I will definitely be back.

We were very pleased with our hotel experience, especially the cleanliness of our room and common areas, and the very helpful pleasant front desk staff. We would stay here again. There are numerous venues nearby for meals or just cocktails or snacks. The fishing pier is nearby, making the view from our guestroom even more picturesque!

    « Infamous room 413 »

Based upon the level of service when it came to room cleanliness and professionalism from the management I will not be returning to the Best Western PLUS Sandcastle Beachfront Hotel (or any Best Western)! Let me start off with the good: location was excellent, nice lobby, great view of the beach, on the boardwalk and walking distance to several restaurants and small shops. Now on to the issues: we arrived late and upon walking into the room it smelled a bit stale, but we didn't think much of it, but noticed right away that someone had written on the balcony window using their finger. We went to bed thinking not thinking much of it since we were tired. I should note that I literally sank right into my mattress, not because I was tired, but it had obviously passed the date of use and needed to be replaced! The next morning, we were able to survey the balcony and were disappointed to see peanut shells (thankfully none of us were allergic), and a beer can laying about. Additionally, the chairs that were provided were too dirty to even sit in. In the bathroom we discovered, once the mirror had fogged up, that the finger-writing bandit had struck again. This immediately alerted us to the fact that the bathroom had not been adequately cleaned. We additionally noticed, in the light of the morning, that the shelf under a table in the room was covered in dust (thankfully we hadn't set anything there the night before). We were leaving out for the morning and I promptly went to the front desk to address the issue and was assured that it would be taken care of (VIP'd) while we were out. We returned from a long morning, exhausted and ready to lay down a bit before our evening activities, only to walk into the room to clearly see that nothing had been touched (beds were unmade, used towels were still on the floor, balcony just as dirty). There went our relaxing break! I went right to the desk to alert them of this issue only to find that an issue of miscommunication due to the fact that our Do Not Disturb sign had been left on the door had occurred and very long story short nothing had been done (but a lot of finger-pointing and blaming occurred between the front desk staff and the cleaning staff), but the cleaning staff would have to take care of it immediately since they were due to leave soon. I noted that at this point no manager (Stephanie was the one on duty) had come out to personally address us, but instead the front desk staff would have to go behind closed doors to speak to them and return with whatever they had told them. So we had to vacate the room immediately in order to allow them to clean. After returning, the room smelled much fresher, but issues were STILL visible: no hand soap available, and the BALCONY WAS STILL NOT CLEANED (including the windows)!!! Right then and there we decided we would never return to this hotel nor any Best Western again. The next morning, the day of our check-out, I once again (sigh) alerted the front desk to the tasks that had not been done and requested a letter from the manager stating the comping of certain charges so that I wouldn't experience a "We never said that" situation next week when I look at my bill (we booked through Expedia). Once again, a manager never made a personal appearance to apologize for the situation. Instead the wonderful front desk staffer, Betty, extended her apologizes. And, like I told her, while I appreciated what she was saying this all should have been said to me face-to-face by a manager. Jason, the general manager, instead typed up a letter and handed it off to a front desk clerk to give to me. How impersonal! This seemed so unprofessional that a manager couldn't take the time to address their PAYING guest for a few brief minutes to at least pretend they care! One time was enough when dealing with the management and cleaning staff at this hotel! Never again! However, the front desk staff were polite, professional and personable and should be commended--much better than any manager!

    « Fantastic! »

My fiance and I stayed for 2 days in Virginia Beach at this hotel. This is a very cheap hotel compared to the others around, and I was wary at first because of the price. But don't let the price scare you away. This establishment is full of very nice people with great customer service skills. We were seeing the ocean for the first time, and could not have been more excited when we found out we got the very top floor, oceanfront. What more can you want? The housekeepers were very friendly and even wrote us a little note welcoming us. Overall, if we ever go back to VA Beach, we will definitely be coming back to this Best Western location. Thanks for everything!

« Best place in VA Beach »

This facility was excellent. Staff, rooms, views of ocean, parking garage, restaurant all were excellent for our family vacation. Close to all the attractions and local dining places. We went in early October and the crowds were down and the beach very open. Fishing from the fishing pier was excellent.

    « Happy again »

Second time I opted for this hotel. I continue to find the Value to price to be in a travelers favor yet again. The lobby area and bedroom were both immaculate again. The Front desk staff, housekeeping & houseman staff were all very cordial and professional yet again. Very important features for me when I travel. I love the Oceanfront rooms and continue to like the modern touches of the hotel and ease of front desk & housekeeping interactions. I continue to enjoy my stay at the Best Western sandcastle hotel. 2 for 2 guys, thanks again for making a trip to Virginia Beach another great success.

    « Clean Rooms & Accomodating Staff »

I had to venture to Virginia Beach as a last minute trip on a Friday. Luckily I found this hotel for a very good value to rate option at the VB Oceanfront. when you first enter the Hotel is clean, smelled great and smiling front desk agents greeted me. I was filling up an afternoon coffee and meet an employee who asked how everything was going, which is very welcomed after a long drive in to town. The hotel representative was actually the G.M. Jason who was super helpful with suggestions and gave gold hospitality service. The room was immaculate; Kudos to Tanya in housekeeping and Alisha at the Front Desk. I appreciated my experience at this facility. Thank You all.

We stayed here for one night and it was such a pleasure. Scenery was beautiful, service was great, staff was outstanding. Don't hesitate to stay here. You won't be sorry. It is on the boardwalk and so easy to get to restaurants and bars. People watching can be done too . So many different things that people do as bike riding, surfing, skate boarding.

    « Beach Location »

stayed 6 nights for beach and sun - but weather bad due to hurricane/tropical storms. Location excellent for access to boardwalk and pier. Quality of breakfast was not very good as same every day. Attached area for eating was somewhat dilapidated and looked tacky. Coffee not very palatable

« Great for a one night getaway during the week »

Stayed here one night for a mental break from the kids. It served the purpose. The room was clean and normal. Nothing out of the ordinary for a normal room at the beach. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. They also recommended a different room from what we booked because the room we had didn't have a view... I was pleased with the recommendation. We also got free breakfast... No bells and whistles there but it was free so I couldn't really complain much..

    3
    « Adequate »

This hotel was adequate. We had just stayed in Myrtle Beach at the Strand hotel and it was so much better. These rooms were smaller and bathroom was so small, door kept hitting towel rack. Ceiling tiles missing and internet did not work. Breakfast was cold and not a lot of choices. When paying the ocean front rates, you expect a little more. Probably will not stay there again.

    2
« Wish it were better »

Stayed previous year and thought stay was OK - you get what you pay for, right? Stayed this year and I will probably never stay again. My room upon check in was dirty - carpet was wet and sticky, cookies and crumbs along base boards and beds, hair in tub, dirty towels in the bathroom. It made me wary about the bedsheets - had they actually been changed? Just a really bad experience. It was Labor Day weekend and it felt like the staff was just waiting for the last big weekend of the season to be over.

« Disappointed initially but overall stay good. »

Buffet breakfast was the same for 7 days, pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausages, biscuits, cereal and one fruit, oranges. No variety. Food was luke warm. Had better in other Best Westerns Plus hotels. On the first night of our stay, we turned down the bed and found a sucker stuck to the blanket. Obvoiusly the blankets were not changed from last guess. Advised the front desk and they changed bedding on both beds. I have stayed in many Best Western Plus hotels in past few years and have never experienced this before. Definitely not what I expected.

« The best location - right ion the beach »

The room was on the small side but it had everything we needed. The view was superb! It was too windy to go out on the balcony, but it was very nice to know there was one to use when the weather was better. We spent only one night here, but I would probably go back if I ever went to Virginia Beach again. Such a pity about the breakfast in the Atlas restaurant, a very cheap-looking place with puddles of water in front of the buffet counter and a severely limited selection of food. And I mean limited - but then it was free.
