« Excellent hotel and place to stay »

Excellent hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff at all levels. Excellent restaurant- plenty of choice for breakfast/dinner, beautifully presented, very polite waiters/waitresses. The reception staff were very welcoming and very helpful- felt confident in their ability and with the information they provided. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms clean, comfortable with regular clean linen. Tea/coffee making facilities which we find essential! The hotel was easy to find in a quiet location. Would definitely stay there again.

    « Lots of Pluses »

My first visit to Venice and decided to stay at the Hotel Sant'Elena. First of all some may be put off by the location and it is a good stroll from Saint Mark's square. For us, it was a pleasant stroll both in the morning and evening that allowed us to see the harbour of Venice and pass by some interesting spots - the Arsenale was one such place. Beyond that, the staff were excellent - especially the waiters. We dined there two evenings and very much enjoyed both occasions. Breakfast was as much as we wanted and the variety of options should appeal to most people. Room was spacious and very comfortable.. A great place to stay that we would highly recommend.

« Good location during the summer »

This is a good location for visiting the Biennale or for retreating to in the summer after the heat and bustle of the San Marco area, as its quiet and blessed with a nearby tree lined avenue and only steps from the vaparetto stop. It's also close to the island's main gardens but there are very few bars and restaurants in the immediate area if you don't want to catch a vaparetto back into the centre, after a busy day's sight seeing. The hotel does have a restaurant but it's lacking in atmosphere, as is the bar. The breakfast, however, is very good with plenty of choice (particularly if you like cake!). My room was a good size but very dark, which I hate and the hotel refused to offer me anything else. My friend's room was fine. We got a good deal as it was out if season but I would prefer to stay elsewhere next time.

« Girls sightseeing trip to Venice »

What an amazing Hotel in a lovely green area at Sant' Elena. It is very clean and modern and the staff are friendly and able to advise on travel, sightseeing etc. We stayed in the two floor suite 414 which was luxurious and spacious with a lovely patio area complete with shower. In the summer this must be a real treat. Wonderful comfy beds. Breakfast is plentiful with breads, pastries, cheeses, hams, eggs, fruit salad, juices, tea, coffee, even prosecco. All beautifully set out and inviting. The Hotel is very easy to get to from the Airport using the blu line Alilaguna from Marco Polo to Arsenals €15. Followed by a 20 minute walk by the canal. From the Hotel to St Marks square is only a 30 minute walk at most. The best of both worlds, near enough to enjoy during the day and early evening but leave the crowds behind and enjoy the quiet of Sant' Elena. A very enjoyable stay. Thank you. I hope to return in the future.

« Lovely hotel, great location »

This was our belated honeymoon, and it was perfect. The manager left a welcome bottle of presecco and note of congratulations. Perfect location as we really enjoyed being out of the centre of Venice, the sunny autumn weather enhanced the walk to St Marks square and surroundings. Good breakfast, good food, great service

What a wonderful hotel. Staff were helpful and friendly. Facilities excellent., and just the perfect place to stay to explore Venice. Lovely breakfast, which set you up for the day. The room had excellent facilities.

    « 3 Night Venice Marathon Stay »

A perfect hotel to explore Venice. Located a 30min beautiful walk away from St Marks Sq, but easily accessible by ferry bus (10mins), the hotel proved a perfect location for a my Venice marathon adventure. The staff and rooms were lovely, and the breakfast was very good - they even opened up early for the marathon runners staying. The only thing they need to work on is the bar area, it's not very relaxing. Otherwise I'd thoroughly recommend staying here.

« Uniquely modern and historical »

This gem is on the end of the main island in the Sant 'Elena district, in a very quiet and quaint neighborhood, no cars at all! I only had time to walk 5-6 blocks in several directions and there were very few people out as many places are now vacant. The hotel was a nunnery and has been completely modernized and was very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was included and unlimited, and delicious!

    « Superb all round! »

After a busy day in the city of Venice we were glad to retreat to the quieter suburb of Sant Elena, which is spacious and green despite being only 10 minutes' walk from central Venice. And this hotel really is a retreat....our large room was quiet, clean, well-equipped and had a view of a canal and the sea (through windows which actually opened....hooray!). Breakfast was fantastic....as well as continental cheeses and meats there was bacon and eggs, a wide variety of breads, and yogurts, fruit....but best of all a fabulous array of fresh pastries! Every member of staff was friendly, helpful and happy to chat and offer advice about their city. I can't rate this hotel (and most importantly its staff) highly enough, and will certainly use it again.

    « Perfect! »

It's not often that everything about a hotel works for you but that's how it was for me. The hotel is located in a quiet area which gives some welcome relief from the bustle of St Mark's square but it's only a 2 minute walk to the vaporetta stop or a pleasant 20 minute walk to the square past the Giardini Biennale and Arsenale. The room was very comfortable and equipped with tea/coffee/minibar. The restaurant provided a very good breakfast including asti spumante if you wanted it! The evening meal was even better. Staff were consistently helpful, welcoming and efficient. So perfect!!

« Excellent hotel in quiet residential area of venice »

I stayed here with 7 friends and we found the hotel very good. Located out in a quiet residential area. It's a 1 minute walk to a lovely park with numerous kids play areas and views out to sea and lido. The rooms we had varied in size, all acceptable though and I was lucky enough to have a room with a good size balcony with 2 sun loungers ( shame it was November). Ate locally a couple of times, with good recommendations from the hotel. The only small improvement that could be made would be a better bar area away from diners. As we were part of a group we wanted to have a drink together at the end of the night but the bar is situated in the dining room so we felt we'd disturb diners and squeezed around a small table in reception. I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay again. Friendly helpful staff, good breakfast.

« Wonderful retreat in Venice »

When the apartment we had rented online was suddenly unavailable the night before our cruise docked in Venice, we scrambled to find a hotel to accommodate our Group of 6 for the 3 nights we were staying in Venice. We were lucky! We got the last 3 rooms available at Hotel Sant'Elana....and they were large, modern, super clean and confortable. The Hotel staff was wonderful, and even spoke English, the breakfast buffet was the best we have ever had anywhere (except maybe in Ireland) and we felt so lucky to have found this wonderful hotel. In addition it was only a one block walk from the vaporetto stop. If we ever return to Venice, we would definitely stay here again.

« Amazing service, amenities and finishes »

We toured all over Italy and this hotel was in the top 3 favorites. It had modern rooms, amenities, and great service. We were greeting by a complimentary drink for my boyfriend and I. The room was spacious and modern overlooking the patio. The breakfast buffet is a must. Really happy and would go back. The only challenge is that it's a 30 minute vaporetto ride from the Piazza Roma station and is a 35-40 minute walk to city center. It's worth if because you get to burn off all the calories from the gelato and is located in a residential quiet neighborhood.

    « Fantastic Stay in Sant`Elena, Venice »

Extremely pleasant stay in this lovely hotel formerly an old convent . You can clearly see this from the front side building architecture as well as looking at the porch and the courtyard inside. Parco delle Rimembranze is very close and quiet for a walk or a nice run . It`s named in this way in memory of the soldiers who died in WW II. This park it`s one of the most attractive green spaces in Venice The water bus stop ( Sant`Elena) is few steps from the hotel and the water taxi can also bring you to the key attractions or airport , although is quite expensive( 90-100 Eur) The Room was clean and with all the comforts. Safe , LCD TV, Kettle with tea/coffee available in the room; free wifi connection and iron board available on demand. The staff was friendly , helpful and very professional. A massive Thank you to Giulia, Francesco , Gabriele and Silvio at reception for their incredible patience trying to satisfy all our requests (e.g. directions, restaurant suggestions, fast laundry service etc.). Also Alessandro the bartender was very nice and friendly making every night our drinks. I would definitely recommend for quality , services and costs when aiming for a relaxing break in Venice.

    « CITY BREAK »

Travelled with a friend on a City Break to Venice, the packaged included this hotel. Wow, it was amazing. The staff were very helpful, most obliging and we even were given complimentary drinks which were not part of the deal. Rooms were clean and very comfortable Food both in the evening and at the buffet breakfast were first class. I will definitely use and recommend this hotel.

« The perfect place to relax in Venice »

We had just spent 3 weeks travelling through Italy and our last stop was the Hotel Sant'Elena in Venezia. What a marvelous choice we made! We were able to relax fully in the area which is residential and filled with parks yet we were only a couple of vaporetta stops away from San Marco square and down town Venice. It is also only a kilometre to walk to the tourist areas. The staff in all areas of the hotel including the front desk, restaurant and lounge were absolutely top notch. We were treated so well and everyone was so friendly we didn't want to leave! The food in the restaurant is excellent with something for everyone and the house wine was very good. We would highly recommend this hotel!

« Excellent hotel in a quiet place »

We recently spent four nights at the Sant Elena Hotel. After a long flight from Canada we were welcomed to the hotel and had a nice breakfast as our room was not ready. We wandered the neighbourhood, which is at the green end of the Castello neighbourhood. The hotel is in a recently renovated building and has a very nice exterior courtyard with lots of green space and sitting areas. We had a deluxe room on the fourth floor and although it was not as big as North american rooms it was well equipped and very comfortable. Our only complaint about the room was that there was only one chair for sitting, not two, which meant one person had to always sit on the bed. Small issues but it would have been a nice touch. The room was spotless and well equipped, including the bathroom. The facilities and nice touches in the hotel included a self service afternoon tea that one could enjoy outside in the garden on nice days, lots of complimentary newspapers and free WiFi throughout the hotel. The breakfast was fantastic, with lots of variety and a nice sunny room which also served as the bar and dining room in the evening. We had two dinners at the hotel and we were so impressed after the first dinner that we decided to go back again. The dining room is excellent with a nice menu and an fantastic chef and kitchen. The food that comes out of the kitchen is sublime and well worth the visit. Lots of very nice surprises in preparation and presentation. Classic Italian with a contemporary touch. Throughout the hotel that staff were fantastic, from the front desk to the dining room. Obviously well trained and happy in their positions. The Hotel is in a nice green area within reach of the major tourist areas of Venice. There is a nice park just beside the hotel and the Sant Elena vaporetto stop is only a short walk away which can get you everywhere. San Marco square is only twenty minutes walk, the Lido only five minutes away and Calle Garibaldi with lots of bars and restaurants a short walk. This hotel is a nice hidden gem in the mass of hotels and rentals in Venice, with excellent staff and facilities, it is well worth the chance to stay amongst the locals of the city and enjoy the area.

« Lovely room with roof terrace »

We stayed at the best western sant elena in Venice for 3 days and loved every minute, The room was great and had a big roof terrace also the staff were very helpful. The hotel is a 25-30 minute walk to San Marco or better still buy a river bus ticket so you can hop on and off at will. This hotel was ideal for us as it's in such a peaceful location after the madness of st marks square. We would definitely recommend this hotel to friends.

    « Simply fantastic »

The Best West Premier Hotel is ideally located for sight seeing and dinning out. The staff were extremely help and professional and the accommodation was good value for money. I loved the fact that we were situated amongst the local inhabitants, which I feel added to the authenticity of the trip. Venice is majestic stunning and I strongly recommend that you add to your bucket list of places to visit.

    « Lovely hotel »

My partner and I stayed here for my 40th birthday. The location was perfect. Slightly out of the centre of Venice but a nice 5-10 minute walk away. There is a waterbus stop near the hotel. From Roma waterbus stop where we initially arrived into from Treviso airport, you would need to get the waterbus to the hotel, this was quite a pleasant trip! Boats are quite full and busy so if you are going for a few days pack light! Rooms as what you would expect for this star hotel, clean, modern, comfortable bed, tea and coffee and mini bar which wasn't over priced. The first night in the early hours we were disturbed by what I think was a domestic which went on for a while. We chose this hotel so not to get this kind of thing. My only negative comment would be regarding breakfast. On arrival we were told the price of breakfast should we want it, but this price was only if we had breakfast for the full duration of the stay otherwise it would have been higher. We did have breakfast once and it was adequate. This may have been more down to our own personal taste. The cooked breakfast had little to offer. Although if you like fizzy wine and lots of dessert in the morning this was available! We drank in the bar in the evening after we had been into Venice, which was really nice and the staff extremely attentive and nothing was too much trouble. We had an amazing stay at the hotel and in Venice and would recommend.

    « Awesome ! »

This beautiful hotel is on the outskirts of Venice in a peaceful residential area away from the hectic-ness of the city. The water taxis are extremely frequent so we didn't mind being out of the city center at all. (About 20 mins or so from St Marks) Gabrielle (unsure of exact spelling sorry) was the most amazing help for us. He was so efficient, patient and professional. We had a few issues (nothing to do with the hotel what so ever) that he went above and beyond to help us fix. Am truly grateful of his assistance! The room was extremely clean and comfortable. The hotel is immaculate and efficient. We went on a free taxi tour to A near by island arranged by hotel. The computer and printer was very convenient. The breakfast was incredible! Highly recommend !!!!!! Thank you :)

« Absolutely wonderful hotel and neighborhood »

A beautiful hotel, restaurant and neighborhood to enjoy Venice. The hotel is in a very quiet residential neighborhood in east Venice. The area has a lovely and significant Catholic Church, several small restaurants and bars, a local bakery and a large park. It is accessible by public water boat transportation. It is possible to walk from the hotel to St. Mark"s, although it would be a 45 minute walk. The hotel has large, comfortable rooms that are beautifully appointed. Free WiFi, very large bathrooms, cotton robes and slippers and TV, The hotel has a nice dining room and restaurant, offers free buffet breakfast and complementary afternoon tea. You can eat in the dining room or sit outside in the lovely courtyard, where there are many tables and lounge seating. it is absolutely quiet and peaceful and you hardly know you are in the busy city of Venice.

    « Amazing »

We stayed at Best Western during our stay in Venice. We took a water bus from the train station (about 30 mins) and then walked for 2-3 minutes to reach the hotel. Yes, it is far from the centre but it gave us the opportunity to walk everywhere and really explore Venice. The rooms are large and very modern. The breakfast buffet had a lot of variety and you have the option to eat outside in the garden. The staff is very courteous and helpful. Highly recommended!

« Excellent hotel with an outstanding breakfast buffet »

The hotel sits a little bid away from the major tourist attraction but the water taxis are within a two minute walk. It is a very clean hotel and has great customer service. Do not miss the breakfast, it is wonderful! Would definitely return.

    « A hidden gem of a hotel »

Nestled in the quieter back streets of Sant Elena in Eastern Castello, the Best Western is a hidden gem of a hotel. A pleasant 20 minutes' walk along the waterfront from the tourist bustle of Central Venice, it represents an ideal base from which to explore the city, but also to hide yourself away when the heat and noise all get too much. The hotel itself is modern and spotlessly clean, something also reflected in the rooms which, while not hugely spacious, provide enough room to relax and enjoy the lovely outlook onto a grassed central garden equipped with tables and loungers. While our room on the third floor was more than enough for our needs, there are some larger apartment-type rooms which sit on the ground floor around the garden. Another major selling point is the proximity of the hotel to the Sant Elena waterbus terminal ? a walk of less then a few minutes through pleasant parkland ? the last stop before the Lido (itself less than a ten minute ride away). As a result you can avoid the extortionate prices of hotels on that island yet be closer than most to its bars, shops and amenities. Breakfast is a relaxed buffet affair, served in a room which opens out onto the courtyard ? we took our meals outside on both mornings of our stay and (marauding pigeons aside) it was a lovely way to start the day. All of this was complimented by staff who were hugely friendly and helpful such that our three day stay seemed to fly by. We will definitely be going back.

    « Just right! »

Following a wonderful week long cruise on Cunard 's Queen Victoria we wondered if our holiday could get any better. Our cruise had taken us from Rome to Corfu, Montenegro and Trieste, finishing up in Venice. The Hotel Sant Elena proved to be just right! It was the perfect venue in a beautiful, quiet spot which was a contrast, with its greenery, to the busy streets of Venice. It was within easy reach of the Vaporetto which took us daily to a variety of terrific places, such as San Marco Square, the Island of Burano and the Lido which was just one stop away in the other direction. The rooms were clean and spacious and the staff were very courteous and helpful. There was a warm, friendly atmosphere in the hotel and the staff were delightful. I would definitely recommend Sant Elena to anyone visiting Venice and would definitely like to return. Grazie St Elena! ??

    « Wonderful 3 night pre-cruise stay »

Took shared water taxi from Airport to Sant Elena water stop. Easy few minute walk to hotel from dock with very friendly and efficient staff to welcome you. Arrived before check in time but room was ready. Had a nice 3rd floor King bed room overlooking the lovely courtyard. Was given complimentary drink tickets also. The room was nicely furnished in a contemporary design with a comfortable bed and nice, but somewhat small bathroom. The housekeeping was great and everything was very clean. The breakfast buffet was very large with a nice variety of selections. You could eat inside in the nice dining room or outside in the courtyard. The hotel was in a quiet neighborhood about a 20-25 minute nice walk along the waterfront to the San Marco area. Numerous good restaurants within a 10 minute walk from the hotel. The front desk arranged for a private water taxi to the ship on our last morning there which picked us up on a canal right along side the hotel. They had a big cart which they carried our luggage to the water taxi for us. Highly recommend.

« Great hotel on the outskirts of Venice »

Nice hotel away from the crowds. From the outside, hotel looks unassuming but once inside it has modern facilities and very friendly staff. Our room was really nice and breakfast was good value. Hotel is a reasonable walk from the main areas, but we found this worked well to see hidden parts of Venice and between meals.

    4
    « Nice modern hotel »

First time in Venice. Hotel is located a bit away from the main areas but within walking distance, which is great as there are not too many tourists. Facilities were great and up to date and service was top notch. Room was comfortable and breakfast good value.

    « Fabulous hotel »

My mum and I stayed at this hotel for four nights from 30/7/16. The staff were lovely, very helpful. Great location- quiet and peaceful area but close to the centre. The water boat stop was very nearby- we got a 3 day pass and this was great value for money. The breakfast was excellent, lots of choice. Room was clean and comfortable. The hotel has a nice, quiet garden area. Would definitely recommend this hotel. We'd like to return.

    « Great value »

Had a great hotel for a first trip to Venice. The location seems a little out of the way when you first get here, but once you get your bearings it is a smashing location. 15 minutes walk to St Marks; 2 minutes walk to the Vaparetto stop; 10 minutes ride from the Lido. Comfortable and clean rooms. Decent bar, Restaurant is fine for breakfast and Dinner. There are umpteen places to eat if you want to explore in town, and a few nice local trattoria that we were very happy to find nearer to the hotel. Everyone asks does Venice smell? Yes, but it smells nicely of wonderful food, wine and coffee. It smells of the sea, and I did not find anything off putting. Will stay here again on our next visit.

« Great hotel, beautiful location! »

We arrived at Marco Polo airport and got a bus onto Venice island. From there we decided to take the vaporetto Line 1 (takes an hour) down the Grand Canal to the stop by the hotel. If you have time I strongly recommend doing this - it's a wonderful introduction to Venice. We arrived at sunset and it was perfect. Quicker vaporetto lines are available. From the Sant'Elena stop the hotel is a short walk and is signposted and easy to find. The hotel itself is lovely and offers a free welcome drink to guests. Staff are friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast is basic but very nice (especially the cakes!), and you can dine outside if you want to. There are sunbeds outside in the garden if you want to relax and soak up the sun. I really liked our room. It was very spacious, not much of a view but we didn't mind that. The hotel is located close to a park. The bathrooms were huge and well equipped with complimentary toiletries. The beds were comfortable. We slept well but there was a bit of noise - the corridor acoustics weren't great. It was cleaned every day and to a good standard. Slippers and robes were provided. The walk into St Mark's Square took a good 20minutes and it is a lovely walk, well worth doing. We walked every day and didn't find it a problem - it was nice to be out of the crowded city centre. It sometimes got a little tiring on the way back after walking around all day. If you plan on using the vaporetto (which is regular and reliable) then purchasing a 24 hour pass (or longer) is better value for money than buying single trips (this is a good tip if you want to go island hopping for the day). We also visited Verona and Lake Garda for a day - easy to do by train.

« Everythin g was wonderful, from location to service to presentation. »

Spent 3 nights with the family at this wonderful hotel. We were eleven, aged 5 to 65. A pleasant walk to the center of town, we were very comfortable in a quiet neighborhood with parks and local eateries and steps from the water bus.. Very clean and accommodating. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that wants great and peaceful.

    « Nice »

A nice little hotel in Venice. close by the river boat and a 20 minutes walk to the main areas. the advantage is being on the main island but not in the busy part so it is quiet. nice rooms. i recommand it

    « economical choice »

everything is good. The location is far away from city center but near the water bus station. In addition, is there no exhaust fan or similar fan in the bath room? After a shower, I can not bear the high temperature. Unfortunately, there is no room upgrade depending on the situation of fully-booked. The restaurant of the hotel is excellent. I do recommend.

    « Mini honeymoon »

We booked 3 nights at Best Western and was not disappointed. The hotel was situated in a quiet place at the end of Venice st Elena which a lovely place, quiet and away from all the hussle and bustle. It was easy reach with a water taxi which was easy enough to work out and get around, we bought a 3 day ticket for €40 which is well worth it cause we went everywhere on it. The hotel room was spacious and modern and very clean and so was the hotel, we had B&B and that was very nice too with prosecco every morning for breakfast :-) can't complain about that! We had a meal one evening and that was delicious, small portion but very tasty and nice. Staff were very friendly too and couldn't be anymore helpful if needed. Would definitely stay there again. Would highly recommended to you if going to venice :-)

« Away from the hustle and bustle of Venice »

Went to Venice in July and didn't want to be in the center of the town as it is so crowded. Decided to try out this hotel. A 20 minute walk to the center along the water. Was worth it. Neighborhood was quiet and peaceful. Hotel was excellent. We were there when there was a heat spell and the A/C was excellent. Was speaking to someone who stayed in a well know hotel that complained to me that their A/C was terrible and they were playing over 500 euros a night! Bed is comfortable and breakfast was very good.

    5
    « Value for money »

Our stay at the hotel was surprisingly positive, thinking the low prices comparing with other hotels in Venice. Of course staying here, you will need a 30 mins walk to reach the centre, but the hotel itself is a small gem. Spacious rooms, clean, nicely decorated, comfortable beds with great air conditioning, water and a beautiful view. The breakfast was really nice and the staff always polite and available for our inquiries.

« A lovely hotel in a quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of the centre of Venice. »

We stayed here for three nights. The room was spacious and very well equipped. The weather was hot but our room was cool. There was a garden which was pleasant apart from the mosquitoes! Nearby were trees and a wooded area for more shade. The restaurant provided delicious breakfasts and had a good menu for evening meals. When it was closed there were some local restaurants which were good value.

« Excellent hotel in quiet location »

Clean, comfortable, well appointed hotel in a quiet location away from all the crowds. Only 2 minute walk from Sant'Elena waterbus stop so good access to the rest of Venice's attractions, it was a relief to be able to get away from the multitudes packing the centre. The hotels' restaurant was excellent, and their breakfast was substantial, with wide choice.

    « PREGO! For A Different Experience »

This hotel is located at the far end of Venice - so if you are looking for somewhere accessible this is not the hotel to stay, however if you want a hotel that is quiet and enjoy a total different experience than yes this is a must stay hotel 1) for their amazing greenery 2) you get to have have a nice walk before reaching the hotel 3) rooms are spacious *junior suite 4) breakfast by the garden As the location is not really ideal for travelers who wants to enjoy the heartbeat of Venice but overall experience is not too bad with this hotel Thing to note 1) water taxi from train terminal cost 90€ 2) room service for each meal is addition 10€ 3) no supermarket around the vicinity, *stock up before arriving, hotel do not provide drinking water 4) walking distance from hotel to area of attraction approximately 40mins by foot 5) water bus is approximately 10mins walk for the nearest station 6) guaranteed a nice serene view of Venice rather than overpopulated/crowded tourist spot

« Quiet location away from sites »

Arrived by plane and took vaparetto to Lido and switched lines to get to St Elena stop. Head diagonally thru the park to get close to hotel. Flat 5-10 min walk with rolling luggage. Hotel kindly checked us in early so we could head out for the day. The vaparetto stop here because it's near end of the line is a good stop to start at to get a seat. There is also a newspaper stand that sells tickets there but only regular hours, so be sure you have a ticket ahead of time for early or late trips. Otherwise walk to st marks is flat and maybe 25 minutes. Our room was small but modern. Good a/c and spacious bathroom. Breakfast was filling and had dinner in restaurant twice, surprised at good quality of the dinners. No printer for Internet guest desk but hotel clerk offered to let me send her the reservation ticket for printout. Only saw one nearby place to eat that was pizza sort of bar with outside tables as well. Park there for kids and dog walkers. I can see a stadium nearby as well as a gated military base. Next time I might stay here again, have to think about its location. However it set the bar for comparison for future trips so I do recommend it.

« Quiet area, lovely garden »

I travelled to Venice for 5 nights with my husband and another couple. A must for us was outside space to relax when back from sight seeing all day in a bustling tourist area. The Sant Elena was just what we were after. A lovely garden with loungers and table and chairs, it was lovely to have a pre dinner drink before our walk along the lagoon to find a restaurant for the evening. Staff were friendly and helpful, bed was comfy and breakfast was satisfactory. There was enough to keep you going all day if necessary. It was so nice to walk away from the crowds and relax in the peace and quiet that the hotel offered.

« Quiet, convienent, affordable and beatiful!!! »

We highly recommend the Sant' Elena! It was an easy walk from the Vapareta stop through a nice park. The room was large and looked out onto the courtyard. The breakfast was great with many unique Italian pastries. The hotel is not in the bustle of St. Mark's but you can be there in 10 minutes and you can also be at the beach in Lido in 10 minutes. We really enjoyed our stay. The staff was helpful whenever we had a question.

« Charming hotel tucked away from the hustle and bustle yet within good walking distance of water bus and restaurants »

The hotel was lovely and we had a deluxe double with excellent air con and nice little touches with bathrobes and the staff were all friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was lovely and there was an outside seating area where we enjoyed the Buck's Fizz. The water bus was under 5 mins away and was very easy to understand or you can walk into San Marco Piazza which takes about 30 minutes. In the evening we went to the local restaurants and bars in Vue de garibaldi which was a ten minute walk while admiring the sunset and large cruise liners and super yachts. A fantastic place to stay and well lit and very clean. The water buses are very easy to understand and can get crowded but we always sat down. Our shared water taxi via Venice link was superb and dropped off us off at our point and picked up with no issues and was fantastic way of seeing Venice. Perfecto :) prego :)

« Great hotel if you are okay with being outside the heart of Venice »

I just finished a 2 day summer stay. I traveled requiring 3 bedrooms and had 4 stops in Italy. The rooms here more by far the largest and the beds were the most comfortable. The hotel included a great breakfast and even offered a large garden to eat or relax in. Service was excellent and the staff was very helpful throughout our stay. I offer only one warning. It's pretty far from the touring parts of Venice. It's a 30 minute walk to St Marco and everything else is further from there. One option to avoid the walk is using the water bus. If you are looking to be off the beaten path - this will be an excellent choice. I liken it to staying in Brooklyn or jersey city when visiting New York.

« Great Hotel Not Far From the Madding Crowd »

My wife and I stayed at this hotel as part of a tour group. It was our favorite of the four hotels we stayed in (others were in Lake Como, Florence and Rome). Rooms given to our tour companions varied a bit, but ours was spacious and artfully decorated...can't remember if it were a Deluxe King Room or Junior Suite. An added bonus was that the dining room served very good food, and was a fine alternative to finding a good restaurant amidst the mediocre tourist ones throughout Venice. Breakfast (included in our stay) was also very good. As others have mentioned, it's just a 20 minute walk to St. Mark's, and has the great advantage of being in a quiet neighborhood --- my wife and I loved having a quiet refuge to which we could retreat when we'd had enough of the summer crowds.

    5
« Perfect Distance from Tourists »

Yes I'm visiting Venice too, but getting away from all the other tourists was a must. This hotel is a little distance away, but can easily be accessed by the water bus. We were also one stop always from Lido which gave us an opportunity to have a relaxing day at the beach. We've been in Italy for the last 12 days and this by far has been the largest room. Clean, contemporary and just what we needed in Venice.

    « Impeccable »

My two sons and I stayed in the Best Western Sant' Elena Hotel three nights in July. Everything was to our liking! The hotel is situated in a quiet and green residential area of Venice, but is well connected by boat to the St Marco square and other points of interest. In particular, it is only one stop away from the Lido island where we stayed on the beach to take some rest from sightseeing. The hotel rooms are modern and clean, the staff are friendly also to the children, the breakfast is excellent and can be taken in the garden to the sound of cicadas. All in all, a perfect choice.

    « Hidden gem »

This hotel is located just minutes away from st Marc piazza, but is just perfect to stay away from the crowds. The hotel personnel was so helpful to accommodate a family of four even when our travel agency made a mistake in our reservation. The room was very spacious, super clean and with modern amenities. The breakfast buffet was excellent. We'll definitely go back.

« Nice 4 Star Hotel in Quiet Area of Venice »

Attentive and helpful staff. Front desk very attentive. Good breakfast and excellent food at the hotel restaurant in the evening. Would definitely stay again if visiting Venice. Best thing is that this hotel is in an area that is far removed from the main touristic center, yet easy to get to after seeing the sights.

    4
    « Excellent Location »

Rooms were small, therefore not five star rating. That being said, however, the location was fantastic. It is in a very quiet area, yet just a short walk to a canal landing. Walking around the neighborhood is a treat in itself.

« Great location away from crowd »

This was actually one of my favorite hotels on our Globus Best of Italy trip. Yes, they lost power one night ,but still ,the staff , food , room was very nice. The power went out one night after a hot sticky day of traveling about Venice and they brought us cold bottles water from the bar. People used their phone lights a bit, but could not recharge the phones till the power went on about 2-3 hours later. The hotel is walking distance about 20 - 30 minutes from St. Marks square. It is in a nice quite area with a few restaurants very close .The hotel has a nice courtyard. Our room and double sinks,Clean , firm mattress, modern decor. We had great salads, cheese plate and a huge breakfast in their restaurant .

« Close enough, yet far enough away »

My husband and I spent four nights in the lovely BW Sant Elena. My husband makes all our travel arrangements, and we were both very pleased with this gem of a hotel. It's a short boat ride from St Marks, Lido and other spots. In visiting St. Marks one day, we knew we didn't want to stay so close to the bustling, overcrowded plaza. We were thankful for our quiet oasis away from the noise, the crowds and the higher prices. The room and bathroom were both quite spacious; the room had a lovely view of the hotel's courtyard, as well as the quaint residences around the hotel. Breakfast was included each morning, and the buffet was bounteous and varied. Everything was fresh and tasty. The staff was always friendly and helpful. The hotel also offers a free private boat to the island of Murano, where the famous blown glass is produced. The return trip is up to you, but it was nice to have a boat ride that was just us; it was a nice amenity. The only drawbacks were 1) that I had to keep logging back onto the Internet on both my phone and iPad, and the Internet was sketchy at times; 2) the room was too warm the first night, even with the A/C set on the lowest setting; and 3) the bathtub was (European) typically skinny. Overall, a wonderful hotel find in a beautiful city.

« Great boutique hotel far from the maddening crowds. »

We found this to be an ideal location away from the noisy, crowded calles of Venice. It is a lovely walk through charming areas, or just a few stops away by vaporetto, from the heart of Venice. It's in a residential area surrounded by trees and parkland. The temperature drops as soon as you get off the boat, and the only sound you hear are the Cicadas in the many trees. The room we had was larger than usual for Italy. It was modern and well equipped. The breakfast had plenty of options, and the cappuccinos were great. We were treated royally by Gabriele at the front desk. The others we saw working the desk throughout the week were much less friendly, and never offered a hello or goodbye. They could learn a lot from their cohort Gabriele. There are quite a few local restaurants to eat at in the surrounding neighbourhood that are of good quality and very reasonable. There are great gelato shops too. When we return to Venice we will definite stay here at Hotel St. Elena, or possibly on Lido, where the beach town vibe is a nice place to stroll in the hot evenings of summer.

« Peaceful and poised for everything »

Stayed for four nights in late June in desperate need of a relaxing break. This was perfect. St Elena is shady, quiet, and truly peaceful, yet a gorgeous 20 min lagoon-side stroll has you at the St Marco Square and a short water bus ride takes you to the Lido. We had wonderful beach days interspersed with city visits, and always coming back to the peace of the hotel in between. We had a room opening into the garden which I think is the best option of all. The rooms were very clean and well appointed, but a bit gloomy. The upside of the gloom of course was cool, and with 30 degree temperatures outside I was happy to take that compromise! The staff in the hotel were wonderful, incredibly friendly, excellent language skills, and so helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening but the menu looked great, we did take advantage of the breakfasts though which were tasty and comprehensive, a nice mix of hot and cold savoury, and good continental too. We had an amazing few days and it was due in no small part to the easy comfort, amazing location, and wonderful staff of this unique hotel. I doubt I'll ever stay anywhere else in Venice!

    « Clean, Peaceful, Perfect »

Our family of five including myself, my husband and three boys ages 16, 14, and 11 really enjoyed staying at the Best Western Premier St. Elena. My husband and I appreciated clean and modern rooms and bathrooms. Unlike older European hotels this hotel has good water pressure and air conditioning. At first the boys were disappointed we weren't near all the action, but then we discovered the water bus got us to get to San Marco Square in 10 minutes. Also we discovered the park behind the hotel was a fun place to hang out!! Our boys enjoyed playing pick up soccer and basketball.

    « Sad to leave »

The other reviews are true the rooms are small. However, they are clean, well maintained, modern, and comfortable. The staff is what made our stay perfect. From the moment we arrived we were treated wonderfully by everyone. The breakfast is lovely with anything you would want for breakfast. Plus the espresso and cappuccino is delicious. The location is great because it is quiet and yet in a few minutes you are at the boat dock. Do yourself a favor and get out of the crowd areas of Venice and stay here.

    « Amazing »

The hotel was lovely modern and very clean! The room was cleaned everyday. The outside back garden area was a lovely peaceful place to sit and have a drink. All the staff were lovely, helpful and polite. The hotel was about a 15 min walk or get the bus boat from s'alena which was very handy! Pleasure to stay in this hotel would highly recommend and would 100% stay here again.

« Great Hotel, Great Location »

The room was well appointed, as was the bathroom. The breakfast was excellent, as was the food and service in the restaurant for dinner. The location was excellent; quiet neighborhood, yet within a 15-20 minute pleasant walk to St. Mark's Square. My wife and I recommend this to anyone looking for a good value in Venice.

« Nice hotel at the edge of Venice »

Loved the location, away from the hustle of the city, yet walking (20 mins) or boat ride distance away from St. Mark's square. Rooms are good sized, have all the right amenities. We had a corner room which was larger and spacious. Highly recommend it. Gabriele was fantastic to work with.

« 50th birthday surprise for my wife »

Quiet clean good food superb value. Away from hustle and bustle of Venice's main tourist spots but only a very slow 45min stroll to St Marks Sq.Explore the back streets and experience the local hospitality. If you are polite and courteous the same will be back to you. Definately go back

« Beautiful place to stay »

This Hotel was formerly a convent and has been converted into a very comfortable place to stay. It is situated on an island but it is possible to walk into downtown Venice (30 minutes). Otherwise access is by boat. Spacious room with large bathroom. Excellent meals in the dining room.

    « Hotel Location »

When we arrived, the front desk informed us that the room we booked might not work because of a broken air conditioning unit. They showed us another room, which was slightly smaller, but about 125 Euros cheaper per night. I was traveling with my wife and 2 kids, but this room was large enough for the 4 of us. The hotel is quite nice, but the neighborhood lacks any charm at all. It is further from the action than most people would like. It takes at least 40 minutes to walk to St. Marks Square. There is a water taxi stop very close to the hotel and that is what we used most of the time. The price was 30 Euros per person for 48 hours of use. This is an absolute must if you stay at this property. The staff were very professional, the breakfast was good, and the rooms were clean. We did not eat at the restaurant except for breakfast. Although I give the hotel a good review, I would not stay here again because it is just too far from the center of town. We ended up eating at some excellent restaurants in the Rialto area and that is definitely where I would stay should I go to Venice again.

    « Former convent »

This hotel was located in a restored convent. Rooms were small but very efficient. Very clean. Staff very helpful. Breakfast was included and was wonderful. The grounds are very attractive. It is located near a water taxi stop.

« Overpriced for tiny room »

Let's start with the positives - the location is really nice, as many people have said, outside of the main tourist areas of Venice but only a half hour walk so still easily accessible - the staff at the hotel were asp friendly and accommodating and the breakfast really good. What wasn't so good though was the size of the room - it was far smaller than advertised online and, for those familiar with uk hotel chains, far smaller than either a premier inn or travel lodge! I wouldn't mind this if that's what we'd chosen but for the money we paid expected much better - very disappointed!

    5
    « Short break »

Booked this through Travelzoo, the hotel is a little way out of Venice centre however I can only say that I am impressed with the hotel's service throughly, the bedroom was superb on the top floor, clean and spotlessly clean bathroom that at times I felt at home, dining room with breakfast is excellent and most impressive is the food and the waiters are so professional in their job even with a courtesy welcoming that has enhanced the quality of the service it does shows they can offer better quality foods than overpriced restaurants in city centre.I would definitely go back there for the peace and quiet in that area. But, a little hiccup that spoiled the ambience of the meal was one particular night when there was a bunch of film makers and technicians came marching through the dining room with loads of filming equipments.

    « A wonderful hotel »

We stayed here for 3 nights and from the moment we arrived the service was amazing. Our bags were taken up for us and we were checked in swiftly and with a smile. On entering our room our satisfaction continued, it was bright, modern and well appointed. For ease, we ate in the restaurant on the first night. The waiters couldn't do enough for us. My fiancé has a number of food allergies which often seem like a problem when dining in England but they provided excellent information and alternatives for dairy and gluten. The prices were reasonable too for the standard of food and presentation - really nice. We also had a few drinks in here on an evening and it was a really pleasant atmosphere. Breakfast was fantastic, lots of choice either of or cold, savory or sweet and again, very accommodating staff. There's also the option to sit/eat in the garden, a truly beautiful space. We took advantage of the free water taxi to Murano that leaves each morning at 10:00 am. It was great. We found the location fantastic, it's very quiet with a 'local' rather than tourist feel. The vaporetto stop is less than a 2 minute walk and the service is frequent. That said we found the walk into Venice beautiful and never an issue, 30 minutes stroll to San Marco and 10-15 to some really nice cafes/bars on Via Garibaldi. Truly a beautiful hotel. If I had one tiny criticism it relates to the flies in reception - a fly trap would be a very easy fix!

« A beautiful setting in a garden, next to the water »

We stayed in this hotel in May. It is a bit out of the way which may be a good thing if you are tired of the crowds on St Marks square. It is easily accessible by a boat bus from the center but from the airport you will need to change the boat or walk a bit. The setting is great with breakfast served in a beautiful inner garden. The hotel is near the water, I guess like everything else in Venice. You can go for a run in the park nearby. We ordered room service with Italian ham and mozzarella that were well presented. The stuff was very helpful. The rooms were clean, A nice place overall.

    « Very good hotel & location. »

Stayed here for three nights on our first trip to Venice. The hitel is located a few minutes walk away from the water taxi transfer stop from the airport and it was a lovely boat ride to get there. Wanted a room where our daughter was not on a 'put you up' bed as although only 12 she is very tall. We were given one of just 3 rooms on the top (fourth) floor. The room was spacious and well appointed with lots of natural light and comfortable beds. Although the third bed was a sofa it was full size and very comfortable. The hotel is 4 stops on the vaporetto from St Marks Square so while it is far enough away to be very peaceful it is close enough to enjoy everything that Venice has to offer. It is also just one stop in the other direction to the beautiful Lido which its miles of sandy beaches. Free wi-fi is available. Breakfast is buffet style with a good selection of everything you would expect; cereals, cold meats & cheeses, breads, eggs, bacon, sausage, yogurts & pastries so definitely something for everyone. I felt they could have been a little quicker filling up but we did go at a busy time. We also ate one night in the Restaurant which was also very good. Highly recommend this hotel and hope to return.

« Quiet location shame about the service »

This is a lovely quiet neighbourhood well away from the tourist areas and very relaxing. It's not a memorable place - no views or particularly staggering rooms. The hotel is perfectly nice but the manager seemed uninterested in being helpful. We tried several times to explain that our shower was not working but he seemed to have better things to do. It's a pity because otherwise it might be a good alternative to the usual fare in Venice.

    « Wonderful visit »

My family of 3 stayed here for 2 nights in the end of April, 2016. The room was clean and comfortable! Customer service was second to none! The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodated every request no matter how small or insignificant. We loved the location on the quiet end of Venice. Beautiful walk to St. Mark's Square and water bus stop is close by next to a park. Water taxi drop off is very close and convenient. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty! Great start to the day! We are Dinner at the hotel as it was convenient after a day of travel and was very nice too. We had beautiful weather for our stay. We would definitely stay here again!!

« Excellent value in a Premier City »

Once you learn to navigate the water taxi system in Venice, this becomes an excellent hotel property. Off the beaten path but highly accessible, this is a quiet, convenient alternative to the frenzy of center Venice. Great value.

« My adventure in Venice! »

This hotel is a converted nunnery. It is situated within walking distance of St Mark's Square. Everything you read to recommend this hotel and its staff, is all true. A breakfast so filling is served, you could safely skip lunch; and return to a restaurant where the kitchen practices Haute Cuisine Italienne, as well as those with a Venitian touch. It's well worth ordering a bottle of wine: if only to witness the dexterity with which the waiter gets the wine from to bottle to your glass... And the wine, if suggested, will be perfect for the dish you've ordered. We all know we get what we pay for. So I judge an hotel by how they can help you in an emergency: like when something goes wrong. Now for a little backstory: I arrived on the island late in the evening in a shared motor-taxi; tired and hungry. I was helped off the boat, and handed the last case on board. The case looked a little like mine; but wasn't. The young driver raced his engine at high speed, turned swiftly, and disappeared: just as I was about to cry out! My Venitian adventure had started. On arrival at the hotel Reception, I was shown to my room and given a suggestion that I might like to eat. (See above for that experience). Overnight, the young lady on Reception contacted the motor-taxi company who were able to name the hotel where my case had arrived in error. Reception worked with Reception. This was harder than it sounds, because the French gentleman who had my case, apparently wanted proof that the case was mine and refused to speak to anyone unless they spoke French. My case, as hand luggage, only had an airline tag. His, had a label with his name, address, and telephone number. In the UK travellers are advised not to put home details on a label: in case the burglars call when you're away. Reception duly marked, on a map, everywhere I needed to see and visit. This contributed enormously to my enjoyment of this amazing city. When I left to catch my plane, Reception assigned a porter to take my case to the water-taxi's jetty. The taxi was late; put the porter insisted on remaining to see me safely on board. I left Venice with some regret, as you always do. Because Arriverderci, doesn't quite cover it...

« Lovely hotel out of the hustle and bustle »

We stayed in a garden/ facing room and it was very peaceful and quiet. The welcoming glass of Prosecco went down very well after our trip from the airport and made us feel at ease immediately. The breakfast was sufficient to start our day, with a glass of Prosecco if you wanted it and a selection of cooked meat and eggs, pastries and cakes, as well as cereals. Juice was on offer as was tea and coffee. We had dinner there on our first night, which was included in our offer, and it was lovely. Again the Prosecco was free of charge. The members of staff were very helpful and attentive, without being intrusive. Our room was very large, compared to a lot of rooms in Venice, and was very well appointed. The bathroom was large and everything worked well. The room was very clean and comfortable. We would highly recommend this hotel.

« Lovely hotel in a quiet area »

Stayed with our grand -daughter in a junior suite. Room has a good surface, clean , bright and not dated as many other hotels in Venice. Airco was not working but it did not matter at this time of the year. Food is excellent: breakfast as well as dinner. Restaurant closed on Sunday evening but staff recommended a very nice local restaurant 200m from the hotel: Osteria al Pampo(typical Italian where local people come for dinner) Excellent free wifi

« Decent Hotel with Excellent Breakfast »

We were initially reluctant to book this hotel due to the Best Western name and distance to the main tourist attractions in Venice, but it turned out to be a nice surprise when we arrived to the hotel. Although it is tucked away from San Marco square, it was nice to come back to the hotel after a day's worth of activities to a quiet property. We also got the opportunity to see the more residential side of Venice and see how locals carry on their day within the Sant'Elena neighbourhood. Unlike other Venetian hotels, the room was not dated and was clean upon check-in. We were disappointed with the size and lack of light in the room as the images on the internet had led us to believe it would be spacious and bright. The glass door of the shower did not cover the entire bathtub and would lead to a wet floor. Not sure why this is the case, but we noticed this at other properties during our stay in Europe. Wifi in the room was ok, at times it would be really slow, but served the need to check on emails. We were really pleased with the breakfast options. There were a variety of cold and hot items to choose from and the coffee was excellent. The servers also made special beverages upon request. The eggs could have been better, but overall we were glad this was included with our booking. San Marco square along with the other islands is easily accessible via the Vaporetto. The Sant'Elena stop is about a 3-4min walk from the hotel and the boats were quite frequent given the several lines that serve this stop. Overall, this is a great hotel if you're looking for something modern with a breakfast option and do not mind walking or taking the Vaporetto to get to your destination.

« Far from the main points, but decent place »

As other reviews mention, the hotel is situated away from the main sights, which adds a 30min walk each way. This isnt bad, since the walk is nice and the park shows the locals sitting and chatting, the dogs being dogs. Further, it's an easy walk to the boat stop so it saves you from having to lug your bags too far on foot. The property is good. We both had a suite, so the rooms were very large. The couch was not very pragmatic as the leather cushions never stayed put, but I'm nitpicking. The shower only had glass that covered half, so water was all over the sink and floor, meaning you had to put towels everywhere when showered. Decent sleep, lots of space. All and all, if you don't want to be in the middle of the action and want the space, this spot is a good choice.

    « Lovely Hotel »

The hotel is lovely as we expected it to be. The room was a good size and everything was clean and maintained to a good level. The breakfast buffet was very good. Had a large selection and we walked away very content each morning. We didn't eat at the restaurant but we had heard good things about it. There is a nice outside area with sun loungers, these may be for the rooms around them but we are not sure. Would stay here again but maybe a little closer to the main square.

    « Nice hotel »

The hotel is about Half an hours walk from St. marks square so it's a bit out of the way. You can also take the water bus but sometimes they can be very overcrowded and uncomfortable to travel in. The hotel is neat and clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was outside the soccer stadium and is very loud when a game is on. The aircon wasn't working nor did the wifi for the first night. I would have given this hotel a 3 star rating but that breakfast was just so good :)

Amazing hotel staff so helpful . In a quiet part of Venice but easy to walk to main part of Venice or get a water bus . Breakfast is buffet and plenty of it . We had a deluxe room round the courtyard and there were lovely sun beds in the garden which we were lucky enough to use as the weather was lovely

    « Again a lovely stay »

Once again we have enjoyed a trip to Venice staying at the Sant Elena. The food was excellent as per normal for breakfast and this time we ate in the restaurant 3 nights and we were very impressed with the choice, presentation and taste. Well recommended.

My partner and I stayed here for three nights last weekend. Excellent accommodation, great food, close to the centre but residential. The service was good especially from Gabriel who greeted us on arrival.Very clean and the best breakfast and nice dinners. Close to the water for the transport. We will definetely return to this hotel.

« Great location away from the hustle and bustle of the canals »

This hotel is perfectly located outside of the main tourist scramble that is Venice. I am a tourist but I don't generally like other tourists so this location was great. The hotel was around a 20-25 min walk into central Venice. The breakfast was quite basic but done well. We stayed in a Classic double room which was very spacious and modern. Good value and would recommend for a weekend break.

    « Great Location - Lovely Hotel »

Venice can be very busy. It was nice to go back to the hotel after a long day walking as it is positioned on the quieter side of the island. Lovely after all the hustle and bustle. The continental breakfast was superb. Fresh fruit, gorgeous cakes, tortes and flans, sparkling wine, cereals, breads, croissants - everything you want and need. The hot food looked okayish but not my cup of tea in the morning. The room was nicely decorated. All fresh furnishings. Nice and clean. We had a bathroom with 2 sinks (we were upgraded.) The bed was very comfy. I have a bad back so it did wonders for me. Also, we were offered a complementary drink when we arrived which was a nice touch. Venice itself - Be careful of the service charges. We got stung a couple of times for ordering next to nothing in a restaurant. Restaurants extort tourists so take plenty of Euros. If you are happy living on slices of pizza and wraps, you will not have to pay any cover charges ;) Venice is a truly wonderful place. I have been to many places but I must say, Venice comes at the top of the list. The scenery, the fabulous architecture, the culture and NO CARS! Amazing place. Tip : If you are travelling from San Marco airport. Get the Alilaguna to Arsenale and walk to San't Elena. It is a 20 mins walk from there. We booked the Alilaguna (waterbus) on their website and managed to get a €4 discount. The return trip was €50 which is good in comparison to some of the other quotes we received.

    « A hidden gem in Venice »

This hotel is in the Castello region. It is on the vaporetto route 1, and is easily accessible. It is in a quiet area, close to the park. You walk through the trees to the vaporetto stop, 150 metres away. We had upgraded to a Junior suite, and were very pleased with it. We had a good sized room with a sitting area. However if you do not spend much time in your room this is not necessary. The bathroom was large: double sinks, bidet and bath with overhead shower. The hotel is very bright , clean, light and airy. The decoration feels very contemporary. The staff are friendly and efficient. Breakfast was very good, lots of variety. It catered for everyone with a selection of hot food: bacon ,eggs, sausages and cold food: meats, cheeses, fruits, cakes, breads, juices and Prosecco. This was buffet service. The staff ensured that the buffet was kept filled. Breakfast was availble 7am until 11am. We ate in the hotel restaurant twice in the evening. Really good food and a nice atmosphere. There is an area of garden with sunloungers, if you have the time. Overall a really good place to stay. There are a couple of local places for a drink or food which are close by.

    « What a great hotel! »

Whilst it is a little way out of the main sightseeing areas, it's a quiet area and ideally situated for the Lido - which is a long thin island with beaches bars atc The hotel is comfortably appointed and the staff welcoming, friendly and helpful The deal we had also included a meal in the hotel restaurant. We weren't expecting anything great, but my word it was fabulous! I had the fillet steak, and it was beautifully cooked and prepared. I would recommend anyone to eat there at least once. The breakfasts were plentiful, with the usual continental selections but some bacon and scrambled eggs also. It set us up nicely for the day We were in one of the new rooms in the courtyard. These have been criticised in previous reviews as being too small and too dark. However, they are well kitted out with everything that you could need, and are actually plenty big enough for a couple. Opening the curtains also made them light and airy I'd happily stay there again

    « Lovely hotel »

A lovely hotel in a quiet neighbourhood - not in the centre of Venice but there is a water bus stop very close to the hotel. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and we even got a complimentary drink on arrival which was very welcome. The room was small but nicely laid out and very clean and the free wifi was a bonus.

« Good Hotel in Quaint Residential Neighborhood »

We stayed three nights at the Sant' Elena Hotel in early April and liked it very much. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff was helpful and attentive. The breakfast was very good and available until 11 AM (nice). The hotel has a restaurant and bar, which are good, but closed on Sundays. We were given a voucher for €20 which made the restaurant a nice bargain for dinner. The hotel is not located in the center of Venice. It's in a lovely, quaint old residential neighborhood called Sant' Elena. Very quiet, very pleasant. We used the 48-hour vaporetto pass to get around and it was great. Several different vaporetto lines stop at Sant Elena. The hotel is a very short walk from the vaporetto. Just one more stop (further from St. Mark's) is the Lido, a nice beach community with a free public beach. We booked in advance and got a great rate. Would definitely stay here again.

    « Little gem »

Excellent hotel within 20 mins walk of St Marks square. The short walk either by the canal or through the gardens was a delight after experiencing the hustle and bustle of Venice centre. Sant Elena is a haven of peace and tranquillity the hotel boasts a lovely courtyard garden with comfortable seating. The staff were exceptionally helpful and courteous with excellent English skills. The bedroom was bright, airy and beautifully clean. Toiletries were provide along with robes and slippers. Good selection of breakfast foods not offer with Prosecco for those who like alcohol at breakfast.. We ate in the resturant on two nights and enjoyed the meals very much. We stayed in room 221 a corner room with both canal and garden views. Will definitely stay at Sant Elena hotel should we return to Venice.

« Great hotel with great transport links »

We booked this hotel knowing it was about 1km out of the main square, but we like that it means you get to explore more of the city. We arrived late at night and it is quiet around the hotel but the staff are friendly and helpful, checking us in quickly and showing us to our room. We were upgraded to a junior suite and were really pleased, the room was very big with windows all down one site opening onto a balcony which overlooked a beautiful courtyard, the canal and open water. Internet was strong in all locations of the hotel The room had a large queen bed and a double sofa as well as all the extras like bath robe and slippers. The bathroom was spotless, maybe a little dated but nothing to complain about. The breakfast in the hotel was really good - lots of choice from savory to sweet and constantly topped up. A very good buffet - something for everyone. Yes the hotel is in a quiet neighborhood with little around but its perfect for a peaceful nights sleep and exploring Venice outside of the main square. the waterbus is a 5 minute walk which took us everywhere including Lido and the other smaller islands and its very easy to use.

« Quiet but within easy reeach of everywhere »

The hotel is in a quiet part of Venice, away from the crowds, but every where was easily and quickly accessible by water bus. The hotel is clean and modern with friendly, helpful staff. A reasonable range of food at breakfast, We stayed in late March and found the room was too warm at night - "the air conditioning isn't switched on until April". That aside it was a good base to visit the city. One day we took the vaporetto to the Fondamente Nove and walked back through the back streets - try it, you'll see where real Venicians live with prices in the cafes to match.

« Not quite central, quiet neighbourhood, decent hotel »

The room we stayed in was quite spacious. Not much of a view. The knob to switch from bath to shower didn't work in our room. So we couldn't shower, just bath. Quite frustrating, especially when you wanted a quick shower before bed after a long day. Free wifi, but had to enter the password every 24 hours. Breakfast selection was good. Nearest water station is Sant Elena. We walked during most of our trip. It took us about half an hour walk to get to the St. Marks square. Decent hotel. I didn't quite like the toiletries provided.

    « Tranquility in Venice »

Hotel transformed from a covenant tucked away in the eastern corner of venice. 3 minutes walk to the boat for easy transport to the center of the city. Friendly staff, good service, and good selection in the breakfast included. We had two problems during our stay: first, the sound insulation is not great. We definitely got to know the couple above us in a more intimate way thanks to the combination of their volume and the thickness of the walls. Second, there was a very bad smell coming from our bathrooms that just wouldn't go away for our 4 night stay. All in all, I still recommend this hôtel due to the points above

    5
    « A peaceful corner of a beautiful city »

We had four lovely days in Venice, made all the more enjoyable by our stay here. The hotel is located in a quiet area East of the city, about half an hour's lovely stroll along the seafront- although there is s vaporetto stop about 100 metres away. The staff were lovely-helpful and friendly. We had a couple of problems at first but they were quickly remedied. The breakfast was amazing-so much choice, and the one dinner we had was good value and very tasty! We would have eaten there more but we were exploring!!!!

    4
    « Peaceful location »

Ideal location away from the busy centre whilst easily accessible by waterbus. The hotel is comfortable & the staff are very friendly & helpful, I would recommend this hotel & would definitely choose this hotel on any future holidays to Venice. We were in a Monday to Friday break & I would recommend buying a 3 day pass for the waterbuses.

« Delayed honeymoon ...hotel made it special. »

We got married last Aug and due to my father- in- laws death the week before, we cancelled the honeymoon and re booked in March. We booked with Fleetway Travel and they informed the hotel of the circumstances. On arrival we were upgraded to the best room of the hotel..our own living room and roof top terrace and lovely bedroom. The staff were very friendly and helpful..they turned our heating down( controlled from reception) and supplied more tea and milk as required. We ate in one night, food good and reasonable price...for Venice. Breakfasts are lovely, well organised, and fresh food. The position of the hotel was great. Arriving at Marco Polo airport we stepped outside and straight onto a bus to Venice and from the bus stop there over to the grand canal to a no1 vaporeta. This took us all the way down the grand canal, a lovely introduction to the island. Sant elena stop is only few yards away from hotel.( inland and right fork) . We enjoyed walking daily into the centre 20 mins along waterfront.. Or longer if you go the backstreets and get lost! We highly recommend the hotel.

« Perfect Place to Stay in Venice »

I thoroughly recommend this hotel to stay in during your trip in Venice. It is about an hour from the airport, and you can get a three day pass for 34 euros which includes a bus from the airport to the main dock and then unlimited travel on the water buses for 3 days. The hotel is in the quieter part of St'Elena, and after visiting the more touristy parts, it is perfect to be away from the hustle and bustle. It is only 3 stops from St'Marcos square, and a really lovely 15-20 minute walk from there. Arriving at the hotel we were checked in swiftly and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We were offered a glass of prosecco which was lovely to drink and relax for a while before we went to our room. It was my 30th birthday whilst we were there are we had a Junior Suite. The room was perfect! Large enough with a huge bed, large bathroom and a sofa to relax. We had a lovely view of the gardens, somewhere we sat on some days as they were pretty. On my birthday, the hotel brought a bottle of prosecco with nibbles and a cupcake to our room. It was very special and once again, they were extremely attentive to our needs. The breakfast was fantastic - continental meats, cheeses, pastries, breads, fruits and even egg, bacon and sausages. My favourite part was having a prosecco breakfast every day, as prosecco was available to drink for free as part of the breakfast. I really cannot recommend this hotel enough, and when we return to Venice we will definitely return to this hotel.

    « Nice hotel , good location »

We stayed for x3 nights in March 2016. Nice hotel and friendly staff. Good location close to the Santa Elena vapperetto stop , giving frequent and easy access to the main Venice attractions. Easy transfers from Marco Polo via the airport bus . We also bought a 3 day vapperetto ticket on arrival which is a must do and gives you great access across Venice. One tip for this hotel is try to avoid the ground floor rooms ( 114-120) as they are somewhat cramped and have little to no soundproofing !! Otherwise an excellent hotel and nice quiet location.

« Great option for mid budget holiday »

Sant Elena is at the Eastern end of Venice with a vaporetto stop allowing you to get to all the main sites, the islands and the Lido in less than half a hour. San Marco is 5 to 10 minutes. The hotel is nicely appointed, clean and with friendly helpful staff. We had a junior suite in the garden. Large with a sofa and plenty of space. Very enjoyable to be able to get the air into the room even in March. The breakfast was good and if staying in the hotel the restaurant is recommended. We dined there because we were too tired with walking to go out again and thoroughly enjoyed the food and wine. Wine by the glass a particular bargain. The only downside is the general rundown feeling of the local area. People are friendly and it feels safe but everything feels a little shabby. Overall though a good location to give the opportunity to get away from the frenetic centre and recharge for the following day whilst still being only a few minutes away.

« Wonderful stay in Venice »

We had a fantastic 3 nights stay in Venice, staying at the Best Weatern Premier St Elena. Whilst this isn't a high end/luxury hotel it was exceptionally good value for money! Staff were really great - very helpful and accommodating. They spoke good English which helped us as our Italian is severely lacking! Rooms were clean and comfortable Hotel includes free wifi and buffet breakfast which was also very nice (better than some higher ranking NYC hotels we've stayed in previously!) Location was wonderful - it's about 5-7 minutes by water bus from St Elena to St Marco (St Marks sq is the centre of Venice).. Which is a nice 25 minute stroll if the sun is shining and you want a relaxing walk along the "sea front". St Elena has a nice green space/park that you wander through to get to the hotel and is also a nice quiet neighbourhood if you don't like being disturbed at night Top tip - get a Venice city pass to allow you to jump on/off any water bus as needed without it costing you too much! In general it's not a cheap place to visit!

    « A time to remember »

For our tenth anniversary , my husband and I took a small tour of Italy. We spent two nights at this charming hotel, and I enthusiastically recommend it to any traveler seeking peace and comfort from the colorful and rowdy (during carnivale) St Mark's, Venice. After hours of traipsing the convoluted streets of Venice, it is possible to take a vaporetto to a quieter part of town, Saint Elena Park with its towering trees and sleepy neighborhood. A walk down a path through these trees will lead you quickly to the front steps of the St Elena nunnery enjoying a second run as a very nicely maintained Best Western. The lobby, halls, rooms and even elevator retain some of the austere charm of an old convent, while simultaneously being cheerful and comfortable. Our room was tiny and, I'm quite sure, one-of-a-kind with a cramped bathroom and oddly placed window. The view was of the surrounding villa windows and rooftops ... Very charming. The room decor was fresh and clean feeling, landing on the side of functional rather than luxurious. I would not dream of staying there with my four young children, although one or two children might be accommodated in the small space we had. The toiletries were upscale and I packed them away for my own guest rooms at home, a habit of mine that annoys my husband to no end. The restaurant deserves mention ... The hours are a little tight for my taste (breakfast is over at 10 and lunch at 2, dinner hours are just 6-10). The buffet breakfast was very nice but without lox which is my favorite breakfast fare. We hotfooted it home one evening and caught the place open and we had dessert. It was yummy and the service was really very good. There is a small library of books for the taking just off the dining room which is an always welcome feature. Most, however, were in Italian so bring your own if you like reading while on vacation. One day I will return to this little gem, but until then, you will have to enjoy it on my behalf! (An important P.S. ... If you are looking to stay in the middle of the excitement or want to feel embraced by the reveling Venice crowds as you drift to sleep at night, this hotel is NOT FOR YOU! It is a quiet respite away from the noisy carnivale crowd, a sanctuary peaceful enough for NUNS)

    « Great value. »

Nice 4 star hotel in quiet location. No food at lunchtime as most guest visiting the city. Odd restaurant/ bar set up but the wine offered is very well priced and of good quality,as indeed was the spritz. We had a well appointed room overlooking a quiet garden. Friendly staff. Easy access to other sites as the water bus stop is close to hotel.

    « Very pleasant stay »

We stayed at the hotel for four nights and enjoyed it, we had a lovely room with big opening door onto a small terrace over looking the garden and the canal close by ( room 318) . When we arrived we were put into a smaller room which did not suit as I am slightly claustrophobic and this room was quite dark so I explained at the reception and the guy very kindly put us into a bigger room which was perfect plenty of light and huge Windows . The hotel it's self is very comfortable but has no facilities , no lounge or seating areas if you want to relax it has to be in the room , it has small bar and dining room which is ok, I would say adequate for holiday makers who just need a base to sleep and eat . The area is very quiet and a little unkept but that maybe because it was out of season , it has a nice water front and is very handy for the water bus , there are a couple of restaurants near by one in particular which is really nice just next to the hotel Vecia Gina I would recommend you book as it does get busy but worth going . We really had no complaints it was a good holiday

    « 3 night stay »

Book here with a package including flights. Nice place to stay. Breakfast had no faults. We didn't dine here for lunch or dinner as we were spending our days out in the heart of Venice. Decent size room, large bed with his and her sinks. Perfect place to stay for any occasion be that business or vacation. Friendly staff always available when you need them. Free Internet and a printer along with all little extras such as adapters and reception phone use. If you're looking for a nice affordable place to stay, you won't be disappointed.

    « Honeymoon »

I could not fault anything about this hotel. It was everything we had hoped for and read about. Perfect location for venice and sightseeing. The morning walks into the centre excellent. Hotel and staff could not have made us feel more welcome. The room was excellent and the bottle of bubbly in our room made it feel even better.

« Decent place to stay in Venice »

I stayed only one night in BW Sant'Elena and it was a rather good experience. Quite easy to reach from the Airport (it's well explained on their website), warm welcome from the staff. I like the location, it's really calm and you won't meet many tourists around the hotel. A 20-25-minutes walk to San Marco. The room is definitely comfy, there's everything one can need and I slept very well. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant and the cuisine was surprisingly good, both in terms of presentation and taste. The only downsides were: - Average breakfast - Not very friendly waiters in the bar/restaurant area - High price

    5
    « Short trip »

We have just returned from a 3 night break and stayed here. I cannot fault the hotel. The room was very comfortable (if a little warm, but when it's raining, who would complain?), the bathroom very clean and there are tea and coffee making facilities. Our offer included a free meal which was superb, as well as a private trip to the Moreno glass factory which was very interesting. The hotel is in a quiet area, but don't let this put you off, the shuttle boats are about a 3 min walk away and very frequent. A wonderful base for a wonderful break

    « Rip to Venice »

We stayed at the Santa Elena for three nights on a package deal and were extremely impressed by our accommodation. A junior suite well furnished and very comfortable. The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice and all well presented. The location may be away from the centre of Venice but is quiet and relaxing. On our final day we booked a water taxi to take us to the airport but strong winds meant we had to make a detour down the Grand Canal and meet a taxi all the logistics were managed for us by the hotel reception.

    « Excellent »

Just back from a 3 night cheap offer break in Venice. Stayed at the St Elena and was very pleased with it.The location is excellent out of centre but within a few minutes of a waterbus stop which means you can be in the heart of things easily as they run about every 10 minutes. If the weather is fine it is a very pleasant 20 minute stroll along front to St Marks. There is a nice cafe/bar just around the corner and a couple of little local shops and a pharmacy handy. The hotel staff were very welcoming and helpful. The quality and the cleanliness of the room was faultless. The included breakfast was great with good service, choice and quality served until 11 am and kept well stocked even if you were a late comer. Our deal included one free evening meal and an excursion both of which were better than I had expected. Thank you St Elena for a most pleasant few days.

    « 1st class »

We have just returned from a 5 day break in Venice staying at the Best Western Saint Elena Hotel . As previously mentioned the Hotel is to the Eastern side of the Island but don't let this put you off the location is excellent . We were initially bothered about getting from the Airport to the hotel and the mention of waterbuses etc.but it couldn't have been easier .I'll try and explain as simply as possible. When you arrive Marco Polo airport as you go inside the airport building you will see several ticket machines , buy tickets we chose single to ?ATVO Air terminal?(Also known as Aerobus) bus service which connects Marco Polo airport to Venice-Piazzale Roma (main bus terminal) in approximately 30 min. When you arrive at the bus terminal go down the steps in front of you and at the kiosk purchase your tickets to Saint Elena . The Water bus stop is 100 Meters to your left from here waterbuses depart to Sant'Elena every 10 minutes. The most comfortable and fastest are lines 5.1 and 6 (30 minutes). The Best Western Hotel Sant'Elena is located 150 meters from the waterbus dock cross the park taking the right fork go down Calle Buccari 20 metres and you are there. The hotel is excellent we had a large comfortable room 1st floor Room 211 ,superb King size bed and very large bathroom with good shower. The breakfasts in the Hotel were 1st class and we had 2 evening meals in the Hotel which were superb. The Hotel staff are the gems of this Hotel and nothing is too much trouble and always with a smile. You can get a free street map from reception and that is all you will need to find your way around Venice. Top tip Get a 3 Day pass for the water buses this will save you a fortune and you can hop on and off the buses and save your legs. The Hotel gives you a complimentary water taxi ride to Morano Island and a visit to a factory , take the free visit but you have to pay for your return but that's OK if you bought the 3 day pass. You can buy all your tickets from the little kiosk near the Saint Elena bus stop.

    « Lovely Rooms »

Before booking at the Sant' Elena we looked into several central apartments but we were happy with our choice to book into this hotel. Whilst it's slightly outside of the centre of Venice, it's a mere 20 minute walk to Sant Marco's Square and we enjoyed the peace and quiet of the hotel. Our rooms were in the courtyard and were tastefully decorated with all the mod cons. Robes, slippers and the usual essentials are all at your disposal as well. Breakfast is superb, with a variety of continental and cooked choices. We also liked the complimentary prosecco to make Mimosas. From check-in to checkout, all of the staff are helpful and courterous. We had the misfortune of having two days of rain, but we received good suggestions from the reception desk on what to visit when the weather is bad. They even gave us umbrellas to keep us dry whilst we walked around rainy Venice. A fabulous hotel and would happily return again. Thank you Sant' Elena!

    « PEACEFUL AREA »

This is a good hotel in a beautiful and peaceful area of Venice. We went to spend a weekend in the city and to enjoy the Biennale, which is 10 minutes walking from the hotel. The area is well connected with vaporetto to all the points of the city.

    5
    « Super Comfy Beds! »

We stayed at Sant' Elena for 4 nights as a party of four. We loved the breakfasts which were plentiful and tasty. There were lots of welcoming "touches" like the welcome drinks and the easy access to many free items e.g. umbrellas, slippers, bath robes, extra toiletries etc. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The hotel is some walking distance from the main tourist areas, but the water buses are frequent and easy to catch. Anyone arriving in Venice should take the bus to Piazzale Roma (main bus train/station) then catch a water bus to Sant' Elena. Our rooms were warm and welcoming and the beds were super comfortable. (Finding non sport/news British channels on the TV was a bit difficult, but we didn't have much time for watching TV.) We considered booking a central apartment, but were so glad we chose to book into the Sant' Elena instead. Would definitely go back.

« Excellent base for exploring Venice »

The hotel is in a peaceful part of Venice, away from the crowds, but easily and quickly accessible by water bus. It is also a pleasant walk away. The hotel is clean and modern with friendly, helpful staff. Great range of food at breakfast, and good quality. We would stay again.

    « Reasonable Hotel »

This is a reasonable hotel, at a 30 minutes walking distance from the center. There are not many amenities, but sufs if it is only for sleeping. The breakfast is not bad, but the place is very small so it get crowded very easily and quick. It an decent average hotel.

    « Excellent Hotel »

In my opinion the hotel is well situated, located in the green area of St Elena, away from the hustle and bustle of St Marco's Square. For some it may be too far out, but for us, it provided a lovely 15 minute walk to said square (all along the 'coastal path', with beautiful views). Initially we used to water taxi to get there, from the stop it's less than a 5 minutes walk. Ask the person in the kiosk and they will direct you. I couldn't recommend this hotel enough. Reception staff were very friendly, they escort you to your room once you have checked in - which I found to be a nice touch. It has restaurant and bar service (restaurant closed on Sunday's though), both providing waiter service. They have a good selection of food and drink to choose from. This room and other areas of the hotel were very well presented, clean and warm (it was quite cold out when we were staying). Do be aware that on check-in there is a 'city tax' to be pay, rates changed when we went, but for 3 nights it cost 20 euros. The room was excellent. So very peaceful, the blackout blind was a nice surprise. Very warm and cosy. The room was spacious, had all the usual amenities - kettle with condiments, safe, TV, spacious wardrobe, shampoo, body wash etc. The decoration was very nicely done. The beds were so comfy. The room was spotless. Same applies with the bathroom. It was nice having a bath (not every hotel provides one), especially after a long day sight seeing. All towels and bed sheets were in pristine condition. The mini-bar was a nice treat - quite surprised to find it was cheaper than drinking in any bar / restaurant. It wasn't applicable for us - but they do offer a laundry service - which would be handy for a longer stay. Breakfast was included in the tariff - it is a good breakfast, but probably more suited to the European's than the Brit's. Very continental. But I wouldn't mark it down and let it put others off, that is just my preference. There is a wide selection of cereal, breads, yogurts, fruit and cakes to choose from. I loved the scrambled eggs, very delicious. Hotel provides free WIFI

« Nice hotel, not too far from the centre »

Location: The hotel is on the far east side of the main island. Easy to get to from the main rail station (santa lucia) by vaparetto boat. The vaparetto stop is Santa Elena and the hotel is a short 5 minute walk through the park. The path can look like an eerie movie scene at night with the mist and silence through the park, but it is safe and has wide open spaces. The main square is San Marco, and is about half an hour on foot or 10-15 minutes by the vaparetto boat. It is a nice walk though to see the fair and the shops along the way. Staff: Staff were polite and courteuous. Check in and check out was quick. Service at their restaurant was efficient and professional. Room: We stayed in a double room, which was large enough, clean and quiet. Bed was 2 single mattresses pushed together. We preferred the modern feel of this hotel instead of the old classic furniture style found in many other Venice hotels. Restaurant Breakfast was good and had the usual variety on offer: eggs, toast, breads, pastries Staff were busily clearing away the tables and keeping the breakfast trays fully stocked (useful for the late risers) We had dinner at the hotel as well which was also quite good Overall A comfortable stay at a good price, away from the central square.

    « Great family hotel ... »

When I made the booking at Sant' Elena hotel I was a bit worried that it's a bit far away from all the main attraction in Venice. But I can tell you that didn't bothered my family at all. The hotel is clean and the rooms are spacious. Their breakfast catered for all ages. My son and daughter loved the hot chocolate and the nutella spreads in the morning, also the divine pastries that they have on offer. Laura at the reception are especially helpful, she assisted me with all my questions and queries. We will definitely stay there again if we ever visit Venice again.

    5
« nice to be away from the hussle and bussle »

this hotel is a fair walk from the centre of Venice, but that's quite nice because you can get a break from it all. The water bus service can be picked up really close by. the hotel was clean and modern. The breakfast was excellent, the staff helpful & we had a comfortable stay there. We ate in one evening & it was quite acceptable. we would have eaten another night if the kitchen had been open.

    « quiet and convenient »

The Hotel Sant' Elena is in a quiet green area conveniently situated near a vaporetto stop. This made it very easy to travel anywhere by water, but it is an easy 20-minute walk to St. Mark's Square. The neighborhood near the hotel has a friendly pizza restaurant and the hotel itself has a good bar and a decent restaurant if you're tired from the day. Otherwise, it's best to head back to the central area to find an assortment of restaurants. Our room was large and comfortable and the staff was very friendly. The buffet breakfast is one of the best we have experienced. We stayed 5 nights and benefited from a 5th-night discount on the room rate. We also purchased a 72-hour vaporetto ticket that gave us 3 days for the price of 2. This allowed us to hop on and off without a second thought.

    5
    « Peaceful location »

Located in a residential area near beautiful gardens and just across from the water transports. Our room consisted of a small sitting area and a seperate bedroom. We were located in the corner of the building on ground floor next to a small canal and naval college. Room had big windows that open to fresh air and located just at head height so quiet private. I loved everything about this quant historic ex convent. Meals and breakfast had good selection. The staff were helpful and friendly in your usual Italian way. Just a 10 - 15 min walk down to the restaurants were the locals eat, we had an excellent pizza and a good local red at a reasonable price. Can't wait to stay again.

    « A hidden gem! »

We visited in June 2015 and what a pleasant experience we had. The room was fantastic; Comfortable, clean and everything worked well. The staff were absolutely lovely and really went out of their way for us which we really appreciated as one of my friends became very ill during the last day of our trip. The area is quiet and peaceful, with a little shop around the corner for emergencies, and away from all the hustle and bustle - ideal after a long day sightseeing. The breakfast spread is plentiful and an array of foods to choose from. Would highly recommend!

« Our TENTH consecutive year at the Hotel Sant'Elena! »

Once again ? this Four Star hotel deserves Five Stars for value and service. Our TENTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR at the Hotel Sant'Elena in July 2015 was even more enjoyable than our previous nine visits, and our annual trip to celebrate my wife's birthday was, again, a wonderful experience in this, one of the most beautiful of cities on Earth. We have already booked our eleventh stay in June 2016. As President of an association of former students of an English art school, I tentatively invited members to join us for our 2016 trip - we're already up to a party size of 40 with 6 months to go, and expect the total to exceed 50 friends. More than twenty of our friends have already stayed at the Sant'Elena on our recommendation and were delighted. Our 2015 stay at the Hotel Sant'Elena was, preciously, entirely predictable . . . our TENTH stay at the Sant'Elena where Signor Roberto Rossi and his first class team once again excelled in the quality of service. Personable staff, wonderful food, impeccable cleanliness, and a willingness to ensure that our every wish was catered for. We were especially impressed, once again, with the service personally provided by Francesco, the head waiter, and Sherban, the breakfast waiter both of whom excel in their professionalism. These, and the other members of staff, especially Gabrielle, Giulia and Barbara are a real credit to the hotel. Our mornings began in bright sunshine with the warmest of welcomes from Sherban (who never stops smiling), asking if he can serve us with coffee or tea at our table, and assist us in choosing from a wide range of food for our breakfast, including freshly cooked omelettes. A fantastic start to the day. We are seasoned travellers (I'm an artist / photographer) and we're quite demanding when it comes to service and value for money. We again upgraded to a roomy Junior Suite at very reasonable cost and enjoyed our stay even more. We stayed in the standard ?Classic? double bedrooms during our first four visits, which were perfectly fine, but our holiday dates now take in my wife's birthday on 4 July (she's having a big birthday next year, so where else we go?), so we're a touch more extravagant. We were able, again, to explore the exquisite surrounding area, including easy railway trips to some of the other historic cities in the Veneto and surrounding area, including Verona, Treviso, Padua and Vicenza. FOOD: the variety of food is fine and lavishly plentiful. There is a very generous breakfast array of fresh fruit juices, milk, bread rolls, croissants, jams and other preserves, fresh fruit salad, cold meats, cheeses, cereals and yoghurts, cakes, sausages, bacon, scrambled egg, fresh fruit, tea and coffee. I'm always amazed at the quantity and range of food provided, right up to the end of service at 11am. Breakfast may be taken in the air-conditioned Dining Room, in the covered outdoor dining area, or al fresco at tables on the garden lawn in the quiet morning sunshine (or, if you're feeling lazy, in your bedroom for a small additional charge). LOCATION: Being in the only green area of the island, it's fresh, clean and very peaceful. The hotel has been created in a large former convent, and has a large enclosed lawned garden (re-landscaped in 2014) which is ideal for breakfasting, peaceful relaxation and sunbathing. The hotel is literally only 200 metres from the vaporetto (public waterbus) stop on the edge of the Venice lagoon ? absolutely ideal when arriving and departing. During your stay, you'll see plenty of distressed travellers struggling to cope with lugging their heavy baggage around for an hour or two on foot, trying to find their hotel in the bewildering maze of small streets at the start and end of their holiday in the heat of the mid-day sun. For first-time visitors to Venice, it's a little disorientating getting your head around travel and connections. Travel agents refer to "Venice and the Veneto" - well, you'll find that the majority of hotels listed are not actually on the main island of Venice at all, but on the nearby mainland area of Mestre, which is modern, with an urban and industrial flavour. The main island of Venice is just that, an island surrounded by water. You'll arrive by air at either Marco Polo Airport, Treviso Airport (both on the mainland) or by road or rail via the causeway at the north end of the island. There are no roads, therefore no cars ? so don't bother hiring one in advance! Transport is by foot or by water ? even bicycles are prohibited. From Marco Polo Airport (our preferred airport), you can walk to the nearby vaporetto / water taxi stop in ten minutes, or get a cab. It's a slight extravagance, but we indulge ourselves by booking a water taxi (a covered motor launch with open back) at the airport which takes us speedily and in great style direct to the hotel in around 30 minutes at a cost of £80 (you can obviously share and halve the cost). NEW FOR 2015 was the ability to share a water taxi at a fixed cost of £25 ? a great deal which makes the vaporetto (public waterbus) service very unattractive. For us, it's the only way to arrive. Water taxis can be ordered from the conspicuous desk at the airport arrivals lounge. We were amazed to find that one of the two young ladies we shared a water taxi with lives only a 5 minute walk from our home in England! The alternative is the vaporetto which is crowded, usually with standing room only. The vaporetto is cheaper but takes much longer ? it will take you to the vaporetto stop at Sant Elena, from where the Hotel Sant'Elena is just a two or three minute stroll. The vaporetto runs every ten minutes from Sant Elena, and will take you to St. Mark's Square in just 10 minutes (*don't forget to buy your multi-day pass for the vaporetto at the airport on arrival - unlimited walk on / walk off trips. A great way to end the day is to go to the vaporetto terminal at Piazalle Roma, re-board a fresh No. 1 vaporetto so that you can grab seats, and enjoy a leisurely 40-minute sightseeing trip along the whole length of the Grand Canal ? have your camera ready!). Or, if you feel like stretching your legs, St. Mark's is only a 20 minute leisurely stroll away from the hotel along the lagoon edge, passing the Biennale Gardens and the Arsenale / Maritime Museum (both extremely worthwhile attractions) ? a beautiful stroll at sunset. In the opposite direction, the vaporetto will take you from Sant'Elena to the Lido in just a single stop for a day lounging on the beach. ACCOMMODATION: The rooms are good-sized, very comfortable and are beautifully air conditioned. The beds, bed linen and towels are superb, and the cleanliness is impeccable - I was VERY surprised to read an earlier review that criticised the standard of cleanliness - the care given to cleanliness is one of the things that always impresses us. The decor is modern, light, cool and airy. We've seen inside many of the other hotels on the island, the majority of which try to attract guests with reproduction Renaissance, Baroque or Rococo furniture and decoration - who would want to wake up to red flock wallpapered walls on a hot summer morning? It's a sign of a good employer that good staff are retained, and we were again looked after impeccably by the manager, Signor Rossi and his excellent team, most of whom have been with the hotel since we began visiting ten years ago. We enjoyed dinner at the hotel more often than in previous years. The head waiter at Sant'Elena, Francesco, assisted by Allesandro, once again reminded us how wonderful it is to be served by a waiter who takes a huge pride in his work, his professionalism adding to the dining experience. The hotel has a slightly more limited menu than the 'tourist' restaurants, but if you are a fan of fillet steak, or branzino (sea bass) cooked to absolute perfection, as we are, you'll have a great experience. We avoided visiting one of our earlier favourite nearby local restaurants, Al Diporto da Mario Baffo, for a few years, but were pleased to find that that they have now regained their ability to delight with their fish dishes, especially the spaghetti alla vongole (spaghetti with clams in a garlic and wine sauce), branzino (whole sea bass) and frittura misto di pesce (battered mixed fried fish). We thoroughly enjoyed a few dinners there under the personal supervision of the highly personable owner, Mario. VALUE: The fact that we returned for our TENTH consecutive year in 2015 says it all. The Hotel Sant'Elena is perfect for us, but do check out other 4 Star hotels for price and quality at Booking.Com or Hotels.Com, just to satisfy yourself. You'll find, though that the prices for equivalent 4 Star accommodation ON THE MAIN ISLAND can be double or treble what we pay at the Sant'Elena. We now book direct with the hotel via their own website for best price, and the helpful staff can discuss any queries you may have by phone. Whatever hotel you choose, do make sure that you ignore all claims about close proximity to St. Mark's Square! Venice is heaving with visitors at most times of the year, and whilst the Square, Basilica and Palace are of course essential destinations for visits, if you're anything like us, you'll definitely prefer a hotel away from the hustle, bustle, noise and crowds to relax after a tiring day in this magnificent jewel of a City. We believe that good service should be rewarded by recommendation. Great hotel, great location, consistently great service and excellent value. The mosquito we encountered in the garden at the hotel in 2007 is still the only bad thing we can say about this hotel. I've already answered a number of specific questions via TripAdvisor - I absolutely love Venice, so if I can help, you're welcome to drop me a line ? glad to help.

The hotel is an enjoyable 15 minute walk to the main canal. We enjoyed the being able to be so close but far enough away to avoid the crowds. Our family had a split level room with a huge balcony over looking the hotel courtyard and a small canal.. Going off season was a plus!

Stayed for a 2 nights break and really enjoyed it. Good location and comfortable beds. Will definitely recommend for short breaks. There are better offers, of course the budget matters. For us was perfect.

    « Excellent hotel »

We stayed there for 4 nights in a Junior Suite. The hotel is clean and comfortable, the staff are very helpful and the breakfast is one of the best I've had in a hotel (especially good if you like cakes for breakfast). The bar had Talisker so I was happy. The hotel is at the eastern end of the island so is in a quiet area. It's a very short walk from the water bus stop so it's easy to get to and you can walk to San Marco in about 20 minutes. There are plenty of restaurants in the Garibaldi street which is nearer. The only slight gripe we had was that the shower was a bit awkward to get into as you have to squeeze in between the sink and the shower screen. Other than that, recommended.

« Great second visit at the Hotel Sant' Elena »

We really liked this hotel located in the beautiful island of Sant Elena, a walking distance to the Gardini for visitors of the Biennale. Room was spacious, modern and clean and the service was super. We will definitly come again. Only comment, breakfast can be improved espcially the coffee.

« Perfect Stay during Biennale »

I stayed here when I visited in July for the Biennale '15 with my friend and her 5 year old son. It was a very comfortable stay - the hotel is located in a green area surrounded by trees, even has an excellent playground near by where you can see local children playing and local Venetian adults enjoying a walk or reading on some of the comfy benches lining the walls under the trees. We visited peak summer mid July when Venice gets quite hot, but this area stays cooler due to the greenery. It's only 2 mins walk to a vaporetto stop, 10 mins walk to Giardini - the Biennale venue. Or you can take the vaporetto to Giardini which is just the next stop! The hotel itself was very comfortable with modern and spacious baths & large comfortable bed. The breakfast is very nice with a large selection to choose from- even a glass of sparkling wine, which was lovely. There are two family run restaurants right next to the hotel, which serve excellent local fare. Very good value for money. It's a gem and a welcome surprise away from the crowded tourist places. I would be definitely staying here again and recommend it highly, specially to people attending the Biennale and to people traveling with children as there are lots of green spaces and a play ground for children. It was also a great place to watch the Annual festa del Redentore fireworks on a hot steamy July evening.

    « Lovely Old Hotel »

My husband & I stayed here for 3 nights. I booked the reservations through Expedia and went for the Jr. Suite since it was only slightly more money than a regular room. Our suite was on the first floor and it was very nice. We had a seating area with a couch & coffee table, desk, king size bed, closet that lit up when doors opened, large bathroom with 2 sinks, bathrobe & slippers were provided. Staff is very friendly; breakfast was delicious...lots to choose from; free Wi-Fi was very good. The hotel provides free shuttle service to Murano Glass Factory, but the day we wanted to go it was extremely foggy & all the boats to Murano were cancelled. It's on the far eastern end of Venice near Lido. A little bit of a pain to get from the airport (you have to take vaporetto to Lido, then switch to another vaporetto to Sant'Elena. The hotel is less than 1.5 blocks from the vaporetto stop. Very nice tree lined park and quiet. It takes about 45 min. by vaporetto to get to the Train Station (longer if it's foggy and some of the lines are cancelled).

    « Great stay »

We stayed in Venice for two days both before and after a cruise. The first two days we stayed on a boat and it was an AWFUL experience! The last two days we stayed close by the terrible boat at the Best Western Premier Hotel SantElena. It was luxurious accommodation! Friendly helpful staff. A welcome drink. Beautiful building. Quiet room. Large bedroom and bathroom. Great shower. Delicious breakfast. Wonderful location near the vaporetto. If I go back to Venice I will definitely stay here again!

    « Perfectly placed! »

Staying in Venice is a problem. Close in it is crowded & noisy, further out access is a problem. This one is fifteen minutes walk along the waterside to St. Marks or a five minute boat ride. It has pleasant parks around it and a number of reasonable eateries. It is quiet. Rooms are good without being spectacular and the breakfast is excellent

    « Quiet and spacious »

This hotel is off the beaten track in Castello, near the marina and the local football ground. It is a more modern building. The rooms are extremely spacious (for venice) and the bed etc was very, very comfortable! The decor is minimal and modern. Very clean. Breakfast was excellent. The staff were very helpful. The best bit was the price.....very good for Venice. Tips: Don't expect a view. You can walk to Saint Marks square...about 25 min Vaporetto to Saint Marks is 2 stops If you fly into Venice, take a water taxi to this hotel, it is expensive but you wont regret it!! Saves lugging your bags from boat to boat and the service is great. Not many restaurants nearby...ask the front desk for recommendations (just

    « Location, Location, location »

The hotel is located close to the Giardini and the Arsenal, so is wonderfully-well-placed for visitors to the Biennale. However, it also has a vaporetto stop only 1 minute's walk away, so is well placed for visiting the rest of Venice by boat, while being well away from the crowds around San Marco. The hotel is good quality, with friendly staff and good breakfasts (prosecco, espresso coffee and chocolate cake particularly). Our room was a good size and quiet, with a very comfortable bed. What more do you want?

    « Not luxurious not 4 star! »

We were so disappointed in this hotel after seeing the photos online. They certainly misrepresented it. We chose to go here as a party of 6 after a recommendation from friends but we thought it was really basic. The reception area was cheap with a worn rug and there was nowhere to sit and have a drink. There was a bar but It was in the dining room. The garden was overgrown. Of 3 rooms on the ground floor, 2 were really dark with high windows and no outlook. The rooms were of a good standard and well appointed and the breakfast was good but we spent as little time as possible in the hotel. This was not a nice area as it was dark and there were no bars or shops or restaurants. It was very quiet and near the vaporeto stop which was a plus. I would certainly not recommend it to anyone.

« Lovely location away from the throngs of tourists »

We enjoyed a couple of nights here before joining our cruise. Was handy enough to easily catch the public water taxi, but also felt like it was a bit tucked away from the busyness of the centre of Venice. Loved it, would definitely stay there again.

« Great location and consistenly good »

We went back (3rd time) and loved it all as much. The location is part of a residential Venice community with kids playing football in the park next to the Canal, 20 minute walk to San Marco but outdoor bars and coffee with locals who come down from surrounding apartments is great to experience and away from the busy sites. Great base for hopping on and off vaporettos.

    « Excellent »

Stayed here before joining our cruise ship. We arrived by private water taxi to be greeted by exceptional friendly staff. To our surprise we were upgrade to a spacious suite with a large balcony ,luxury to the finger tips. The food was very good as we used the dining room daily, the price being moderate. There is a few shops and restaurants near by , and not to far to walk in a nice day or evening to the Centre ,also convientient to the water bus service. If and when we return to Venice on a trip or to join a cruise ship this will be our choice of hotel. A big but belated thank you to all the staff.

    « Beautiful, peaceful location. »

We stayed here for 2 nights (wish it could have been longer) as part of a tour of Italy. The experience begins when you travel by boat to the vaporetto stop close to the hotel. (Our luggage had been collected from the station and brought in another boat.) The hotel had been a convent and all the rooms were slightly different (I think). Ours had 2 windows overlooking the side canal and one overlooking rooftops and the main canal. The breakfasts were probably the best we had in Italy. Although the hotel was far enough away from the centre of Venice to be very quiet it was possible to walk to the centre alongside the canal through the local park. I would certainly like to visit this hotel again.

« Good hotel, especially for Biennale »

We stayed here for three nights, with our primary objective in Venice being the Biennale. This hotel is a great location for that -- it's within easy walking distance of Giardini and Arsenale, the two primary Biennale locations -- and if you're not feeling like walking, you can take the vaporetto one stop to the Arsenale. After long days at the Biennale, it was really nice to walk back to the hotel quickly. The hotel itself is nice though quite expensive for what you get. Our room was very, very small but always clean and neatly kept. The hotel and rooms are also very quiet, so you don't have to worry about street noise or the like. Breakfast is very nice -- a large assortment of food and a helpful staff. I do not recommend dinner there; our pasta was pretty terrible.

    « A good hotel »

the hotel is in a quiet area of ??the city. the vaporetto it is necessary for any movement. breakfast very good. room relatively clean. the price too high. Nothing to view from the room. for the money I paid I did not receive similar services. I expected something better.

« Get away from the hustle and bustle of Venice »

This hotel is located in a quiet older neighborhood about a 25 minute walk from St, Mark's Square. Perfect location to escape to after a long day among the crowds around the Grand Canal and Venice proper. Rooms are clean and have great views. The included breakfast is the usual fare. Wifi in rooms. Take the stairs if you are claustrophobic -- this hotel has the smallest elevator I've ever been in (so of course we squeezed into it every chance we got!). Quaint and charming.

    « Nice Hotel »

Nice and clean hotel in a quiet but slightly rundown area. For someone with walking difficulties a bit far out from the centre, which is a good 30 minutes walk. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. Breakfast ok but with only one toaster that takes ages to toast! So people waiting! If you plan to eat out nearby, again a good walk, as the nearby restaurant was not very good.

    « Great stay »

Located in quiet residential area an easy walk to the centre along the waterfront . We moved from another hotel in Venice which was a major let down to the St Elena which was a major improvement . We were upgraded to a Junior suite which was large clean and well furnished . the breakfast was good . overall a very enjoyable stay Wifi a bit hit and miss

« Good Hotel away from the crowds »

We chose this hotel because it offered great value and a perfectly good standard of accommodation. We wanted a base from which to explore Venice but without being right in the centre of things. It's a good 20 minute walk from St Marks but a very nice walk along the canal or through the park. There isn't a great deal immediately around the hotel but there is a very nearby water bus stop that gets you to the main areas within a few minutes. The hotel itself is perfectly pleasant - staff are lovely, breakfast is great and the grounds and communal areas are clean and tidy. The first room we were shown was very small so we did request a different room and ended up in a ground floor garden side room which was compact but had all you needed and was finished to a very good standard. (Folding storage is very limited so would recommend taking extra hangers to hang things). Overall a perfectly good place to stay as a base for sightseeing.
