« Perfect Base for a short trip to Venice »

Would have to say what an excellent Hotel and service, the staff were wonderful. When we checked in I was handed the key to Room 201, I remembered reading a review on here saying don't get room 201 and my heart sank. When I walked to the lift and commented to my husband and our friends the man on the reception desk heard me and offered to change the room straight away, or he said "go and look and if you don't like it we will move you" Not sure what the problem was to the person who had written the review as room 201 is excellent. A larger than average room and en-suite, with tea and coffee facilities. The hairdryer is a typical built in one in the bathroom but as long as you don't try and rush getting ready it does the job. The breakfast which is included in the price is more than adequate to set you up for the long day of walking. The location of the Hotel is ideal, a 2 minute walk from St Marks Square, everything else you want to see is within easy walking distance. As for the staff in the Hotel, Excellent, friendly and helpful, brilliant restaurant recommendations . If we go back to Venice this is definitely where we will stay. :)

« Great hotel and great location ! »

Our Agent rented an Apartment for us and it was great and spacious with all the utensils, kitchenette, lounge and connected rooms but it was on the second floor which was hard for my Mother as she had an Arthroplasty 4 months back...the hotel staff was accomodating and we moved to the main building fourth floor in a double room the next night with a slight difference ! The beds were comfortable, tea and coffee facilty was complimentary, washroom was bigger than the apartment and the usual 3* European hotels ! Overall it was a pleasant stay...the staff is very friendly and helpful from booking tours to best restaurant recommendations ! Also the breakfast is good if you want to have yours at the hotel...rest there are plenty of eating places nearby !

« The best breakfast ever! »

We have stayed here before and this time it did not disappoint. We were first shown a room in the back on the 4th floor and I complained that it was too small so they quickly showed me a larger room on the 2nd floor. Good service, clean rooms and a breakfast you will rarely see elsewhere. Champagne, sausage, bacon, eggs, croissants, cheese, fruit, salad, meats, pancakes, cereal, juices, coffee, yogurt, toast, cakes and pastry. I don't remember it being this extensive before. The location is terrific, minutes from Saint Mark's Square. Would definitely return.

« Excellent for visitors on a budget »

We stayed at the Monte Carlo in late November 2016 with group of friends for a weekend trip. From start to finish, we found the staff very helpful. We initially booked all rooms as twins whilst using the hotels.com app, so had to call the hotel to change the room selections. These were done instantly and without any questions. The hotel is located close to Piazza San Marco in a narrow lane, so could be tricky to find. My tip is to find the Falciani Ristorante Pizzeria, which itself is located along the side of the Basilica San Marco, and then follow the alley that runs down the side, and the hotel is located after about 50m. The location itself is great for first time visitors to Venice as all of Venice that is worth visiting can reached by walking - Rialto bridge, Piazzo San Marco, Grand Canal, etc. We arrived Friday early afternoon, before our check in time, however we were checked in quickly and shown to our rooms. The rooms are spacious, clean and fairly maintained. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the neighbouring buildings. The bathroom was a decent size and came with a bath tub with shower overhead. The bed was very comfortable and bedding ample. The only negative was that the AC was not working, however we didn't need it in Nov and so didn't raise it with the staff. Breakfast is served in the small restaurant area downstairs, with plenty of food and drinks to keep you happy and full. My overall view is that for a low budget hotel, this is really good value and I would recommend it ravellers on a similar budget. there are probably better hotels costing a lot more, but if you want a simple clean hotel with friendly staff, you can't go wrong with this one.

    « nice place »

Friendly staff and very close to Marco Square. We found it easy to come and go from to see all of Venice. Wonderful breakfast! We were surprised at the variety of breakfast items served. We found our room quite and peaceful

« Excellent choice next to Piazza San Marcos »

We've just spent 4 nights there and it was great! Breakfast was incredible, double room big and comfortable, staff nice and helpful. We'll definitely go back there and recommend it to friends and family!

« Fantastic Hotel and great staff »

I stayed here on a 3 night city break in November 2016. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for anyone who wants to enjoy a great stay in Venice. The hotel is clean and comfortable and is perfectly located in San Marco just a few minutes walk from St. Mark's Square. I booked a single room with a double bed and I couldn't believe how big the room was, especially as I have stayed in many a small and cramped single room on various city breaks that I have been on. The bed was very comfortable and the en suite was great! Coming down for breakfast on day one I was delighted to see the extent of the included buffet breakfast. Not only did they have the continental norm of croissants, muffins, cold meats and alike, but also had hot food to like bacon, scrambled eggs, sausages and hash browns, a truly fantastic spread! The staff were also extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble and they were very very friendly. To top off what was a great stay they offered to store my bags after I had checked out so I could enjoy my last day in Venice before getting the water bus back to the airport. If you are thinking of coming to Venice for a short break definitely put the Best Western Montecarlo Hotel at the top of your list of places to stay, you won't be disappointed.

« Cosy hotel in a great location »

Good price, friendly staff, nice rooms, clean with a Venetian feel to them. Decent breakfast. excellent location. We spent a saturday and sunday night here, staff were well informed and friendly and the rooms were nicely presented although incredibly hot and this is November !. The bar area was a little dour with no music (or readily available staff) but the location was fantastic and lets face it that is what you go to Venice for. Breakfast was good, reasonable choice with good coffee

    « Great hotel! »

Given the location (just a couple of minutes to St. Mark's Square) you'd expect maybe the rooms or the service or something else might suffer - guests will tolerate less than the best in exchange for a great location, right? Not the case at all - this hotel was charming, the room very comfortable (small, but room for everything, good outlets and mirrors, etc., everything well thought-out - and a comfortable bed, very important), the breakfast was wonderful, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. If I get back to Venice, this is where I'm staying.

    « Surprisingly good! »

I was very pleasantly surprised by this hotel! We stayed in Venice for 3 nights and this hotel was recommended to us by friends of friends ? I normally like to choose myself, but on this occasion went with the flow. Having arrived by Water Taxi in San Marco square, we followed the hotels directions, received a few days before by email and it took us straight there, although as we approached I must admit to being slightly worried as it really is in a small back winding street, but I had absolutely nothing to worry about. The hotel itself is ideally located, the rooms, although small (but there were 3 of use and this is Venice), were clean, smart and well equipped. The beds VERY comfortable and I am very fussy, the towels in the bathroom were big and fluffy ? none of this trying to dry/cover yourself with a piece of material 4 inches square. Even the pillows were soft and lovely to sleep on ? not an easy thing to find in most hotels. The staff were very helpful, we had to travel to Montgrotto on one day and they helped as plan our route by train, which was an adventure in itself. Breakfast was amazing, the best I have seen for a very long time, it really did cater for everyone and the restaurant area is decorated like a train carriage, really beautiful. We would certainly stay there again, all round brilliant and I have only marked it down by one star because of the annoying hot water/heating pipes in the roof space which click, click, clicked all night long and the fact that our curtain's didn't meet in the middle of the window, leaving a 2 foot gap, not ideal when you are looking direct into the window of the house next to you.

« Overnight stay in Venice »

Great location and a few minutes walk to St Marks Square. Stayed in this hotel some 20 years ago and was glad to return to see it retains it character. Small rooms and bathrooms but then in Venice all hotels as the same.Great value and breakfast.

    « Exactly what you'd need »

This hotel provided a great base for exploring Venice and is very well located for St Marks Square and all boat ports along the front. The hotel was clean, rooms sizeable and warm. Breakfast was varied including meats, breads, pastries and drinks. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Luggage storage free of charge was a bonus for us as we had a late flight to catch. Early check in was no trouble and we were able to settle immediately. The wifi in the hotel was temperamental and struggled to load certain websites on occasion but it was enough to quickly browse and send a few messages. I'd willingly recommend the hotel and would stay again.

« Wonderful Location, Staff and Hotel »

Room was clean, with a fridge, and coffee-making facilities with generous amount of sachets! Slightly small, but it was sufficient. Moreover, after searching for a decent and non dingy-looking hotel, this hotel was wonderful. The bathroom was modern and clean, though slightly small. However, that wasn't an issue. A small lift was very helpful as we had heavy luggages! Breakfast was good, they even had champagne! Staff of the hotel were BEYOND WONDERFUL and was a perfect end to my Europe trip before heading home. They were friendly, helpful and very attentive. Location was just perfect. Clear instructions were given by the hotel when it came to getting to the place. It is located very near San Marco Square, and the Alilaguna water taxi is a 5-7-minute walk away, you do not need a porter at all. Highly recommended!

« Excellent location, wonderful staff! »

We stayed here for five nights. Check in was quick, shown to our room and then our cases were brought up to us. The staff in reception were very polite and friendly.....remembered your room number when returning to get our room key. I had emailed a few days earlier to ask if the room had a bath as my husband had an accident and needed to keep the wound on his leg dry........within the hour they replied and told me this had been arranged! The room was very nice, Venetian style with a Murano glass chandelier. Bed linen was high quality, enough drawers and wardrobe space too. One thing I had read in previous reviews was lack of power points, there was only one you could use near the dressing table, but this wasn't a problem for us at all. The housekeeping was very good, beds made and everywhere kept clean each day, tea/coffee/milk replenished too. Bathroom was good with shower over the bath and I also like the fact that you can choose not to have all your towels and bed linen changed every day. Just because I'm paying to stay in a hotel I don't like waste and I don't think it's necessary to have clean daily. The breakfast was very good too. Numerous cereals, croissants, cake, ham cheese etc, scrambled egg and sausages. Fresh fruits. Fruit juice from a machine and the coffe /tea was also from a machine.....very good and quick to do.....choice of a cup or making a pot full for yourself. Prosecco and strawberries were also on offer......it would have been rude not to partake! The staff were constantly monitoring if food was running low and replacing it, as well as clearing tables, they worked very hard and were very pleasant and friendly. The location of the hotel was excellent...only a few minutes walk from the boat stop at San Marco and easy to find. We particularly enjoyed having a walk around the square in the evenings when all the crowds had disappeared and looked forward to an Aperol spritz at the local bacaro........something I have only just discovered! Just be warned to close your shutters at night to keep out the street noise and the bells! I would definitely recommend this hotel, the staff were all excellent and should I return I would stay here again.

« Great Hotel in a Great Location »

My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel. We were glad that we did. This supposed 3-Star hotel is easily a 4-star in terms of service, decor, accommodations and location. Less than 1/10 mile from the beautiful Piazza San Marco, shopping and great restaurants, it has something to offer everyone. The hotel also serves a complimentary breakfast that is amazing !! My Travel Agent recommended the hotel to us. We thanked him profusely when we returned to the US, and gave him a first hand account of the hotel so he can tell all his clients what a wonderful hotel this is. The Best Western Montecarlo is reasonably priced and in our opinion, a true bargain. If you are vacationing in Venice, be sure to check out this hotel.

« Great location, small room »

The hotel is ideally placed for the main attractions, being less than five minutes from St Mark's Square. The staff are friendly and helpful, printing out tickets I had booked online on an iPad, booking a water taxi, always being pleasant when we returned from a day out. The breakfast room heaved at times, but again the staff worked hard to replenish the food and utensils. The range of what was on offer was good and well cooked. Why am I only giving my review 3 stars? Well, it was the size of our room. We would not have been able to indulge in the British sport of cat swinging. It was small, but clean and there were good facilities. I think if it was possible to award 3.5 points, I would. Some rooms looked bigger and, after all, if you are out most of the day, does it matter. Well, you decide. I would recommend, but wouldn't stay in room 207 again.

« Amazing location, comfortable little hotel »

This is a charming little hotel, Best Western took over an old property so the hotel is really charming. The rooms are very comfortable and quiet. Amazing breakfast buffet.. The location is great ! 2 mins from the Piazza Saint Marc and easy to get there from the pier. Only bump I encountered was WiFi dropping a couple of times. Would definitely recommend the place

    5
    « Great Location »

I liked the hotel decor, location and the staffs. Everything is so near if you are staying in this hotel. If you are coming from Airport or Train Station, get down at San Marco and you can just walk down to the hotel in 5 mins time without any bridges. San Marco square is just 2 mins walk from the hotel. Lot of restaurants close by, so food was never an issue. The breakfast spread was very nice. We had to checkout early in the morning, so they even gave us the packed breakfast.

    « Great location! »

I loved the atmosphere of this hotel! It's like it took me ages back, which I like. Rooms and bathroom were clean and comfortable. Very quiet, close to San Marco square and lots lots of restaurants. Breakfast was okay, reception were nice and helpful. There was a free Glass factory tour, it was fun.

    « Would stay again »

Enjoyed our stay at the BW Monte Carlo in Venice. Will definitely stay again. Not the fanciest or most modern but great location, outstanding service at the front, from the maids and bell hops. Very friendly, perfect English, very helpful. Perfect location. Room small but comfortable. Excellent mattress for good sleeping. Loved the included breakfast. Good and interesting selection of foods. Outstanding coffee any way you like it.

« Great location and value »

The Best Western Montecarlo is an excellent hotel in Venice. It is very close to San Marcos Square and is surrounded by stores and restaurants. The hotel is clean, the bed was great, the breakfast was very good. The staff was very helpful as well. All in all, a very good choice and if we go back to Venice, we will stay there again.

    « Better than expected »

Very attentive front desk staff. Triple room was prepared with amenities for three--no need to request for additional towel or toiletries for the third person. Well maintained and beautifully furnished rooms but can use some updating--usb charging ports and higher powered hair dryer perhaps? And a bidet for the toilet. Potentially dangerous swinging glass bathroom divider. Needs more power outlets instead of an ipod dock/player. Really good breakfast spread but breakfast room looks dark and tired Wifi connection okay

    3
    « It was okay »

Location is great and the concierge and staff is very helpful and friendly. However, we didn't know that the air conditioning is centralized and they don't turn it on in October. We had to open all the windows at night and because of this, there were so many mosquitos inside the room. It was also a little hot since it was only October. Bathroom is very dark and you can barely see anything.

    « Overall Not a Bad Hotel »

I stayed here for a couple of nights. The hotel wasn't too hard to find. If you take the Alilaguna boat from the Venice airport and get off at the San Marco stop- it's not a far walk. The location is near the San Marco Square and the clock tower which is convenient BUT our room looked out to the front of the hotel and we could hear people walking by talking and the clock bells ringing every hour! I did ask the man at the front desk when checking in if the room would be quiet and he said "of course". The elevator or lift is tiny & fits 2 people. There are stairs as well. They have adapters for the electric plugs which you may borrow. The room was a classic double and is big for a European hotel with high ceiling. The decoration is venetian style including a cute chandelier. The refrigerator is hidden behind a cabinet door. There are no electrical outlets near the bed. There was one across the room & another one in the bathroom. We had a narrow balcony, but it was too noisy to leave open & the view was the building across the way. The bathroom is smaller. The closet is just outside the bathroom by the front door so it may be a tight space. The best part of our stay was the breakfast buffet which was included. They have a good selection including eggs, chocolate chip croissants, pancakes, juice, cappuccino/hot chocolate machine, champagne, etc. The women that work at the breakfast area do a wonderful job. They keep it clean. I was impressed. The reason for my rating is mainly because of the noise. The price is on the high end because I guess that's just Venice $$$

    « Great location »

A lovely hotel in a great location. Just minutes from st marks square, a great base enabling you to return to the hotel if you needed to during the days and also easy to find. Breakfast excellent with full range or foods both hot and cold..Rooms had very traditional furniture and decoration, which suited Venice, room was slightly small but had everything you needed. Very very clean, daily room service. Staff were lovely and very helpful giving good advice.

« Greatest place to stay in Venice, Italy »

If u want great service, quaint furnishings, fabulous breakfasts, and very close to San Marco Square, choose Best Western Monte Carlo Hotel. Made us feel a part of Old Venice. Customer service was the best We have ever experienced. Always greeted us by our name, offered special services and tour information. Will definitely reserve this hotel for all future Venice trips.

    « Perfect Location! »

The location initially drew us to this hotel and it turned out to be perfect. Few minutes from St Mark's Square and the perfect spot to explore Venice from. The breakfast was really good and there was plenty to choose from. The staff were freondly and helpful. Thoroughly recommend this hotel if you are visiting Venice.

« Comfortable hotel in a great location »

Our room was small but very clean, quiet and comfortable. We only had 24 hours in Venice so it was great to be in such a central location close to San Marco and lots of lively bars and restaurants. Venice was chock-a-block so I was amazed at the good humour and patience of all the locals, including the hotel staff.

« Comfortable and close to San Marco square »

Friendly and quick check in. Staff spoke English and many other languages very well. Room was clean and had a Murano glass chandelier. Good variety of food for breakfast. Coffee served via a self service machine - espresso was not very good.

This is a very central hotel ,bit difficult to find up a very narrow street but only a few minutes walk form St Marks square and most of the main attractions. Over all an excellent place for a short break. I

Stayed here on one of my stops through Italy, Love Venice!! Room was small but very clean, I was travelling alone so it worked just fine. The Front DesK staff was amazing, very helpful, easy to talk to, always with a smile, great recommendation on where to eat and what to see. I would stay with them again when I visit Venice AGAIN

« Hidden Gem a stone from St Marco »

We booked this hotel based on cost and location factors. We were absolutely overwhelmed by the pure hospitality displayed by all the staff. The receptionist who was dealing with a "full plate" clearly made time for us on arrival, explaining facilities and assisting with getting us on excursion almost instantly. The room was done in a classical style, everything was spotless and in fine working order, congratulations to housekeeping for such a tremendous job. We highly recommend this hotel to all travelers looking for a value for many hotel right in the middle of "the tourist" area.

    « Excellent hotel »

This hotel has very nice atmosphere and fantastic location. Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is excellent in a very elegant room with beautiful wood decorations. The room is small but has everything I need. I will stay here again and strongly recommend it.

« Great Location in Venice »

Stayed at the Best Western Montecarlo for two nights on a recent trip to Venice. Enjoyed the property because of its boutique feel. Property is decorated in traditional style and is located very close to St. Mark's Square. Room was small, but clean. Included breakfast was very nice - a good selection of American breakfast items and local foods. Front desk staff was always pleasant and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed the short walk to St. Mark's Square, especially in the evening to enjoy the music and lights!

    « Nice »

This is a nice hotel in a location very close to San Marco. We enjoyed our stay, with a pretty room, easy access to key sites, and a very nice buffet breakfast. However, we were there in off season, and we would definitely not pick this location during the height of the tourist season unless you like to spend all your street time battling the crowds.

    4
    « Nice place »

This hotel is a typical venetian hotel with nice furniture and decorations. Standard rooms are quite small but they are clean and well presented. Staff is nice and the breakfast is very good with a very wide offer!

What a great little gem nestled in the heart of San Marco area. Getting to and from the hotel is easy by Water taxi or bus. You are centrally located to St Marks Square and Rialto Bridge. Plenty of places to shop and restaurants close by. Breakfast served with a good variety and should offer something for everyone. Beverages ranged from champagne to juices with a coffee machine that provided a variety of ways to drink your coffee. I was surprised how good the machine coffee was. We had an early arrival and contacted the hotel and they said we could check in early. Now that's service. All staff very helpful and very friendly. Fabrizio at the front desk was very helpful with details about the area and directions. We stayed on the first floor with no view but very easy access to get in and out of the hotel. We were more interested in the view in outside Venice. Already planning our next trip.

    « Perfect Location »

My partner and I hadn't been to Venice before so this was a great location to get around as so central. Very good value and great service. The room was very small and against the wall on one side but for the amount we paid was worth it.

« Still brilliant on our 4th stay, great location and superb reception staff. »

My wife has visited Venice nine times, me six. Four of her visits have been day visits and one of mine. The other 5 times we have stayed in Venice, once on a package at another hotel and 4 times here. I did e-mail the hotel prior to our visit, to request any form of upgrade due to our commitment to the hotel and that it was a special occasion. On arrival we were allocated room 306, right at the end of the corridor. A nice quiet, but not huge room, but most are not in this very old building, although I must say this room was not quite as nice as the one we had last year (see my review of August 2015). The room was comfortable, there were a couple issues, peeling wallpaper and the shower screen was a little discoloured at the bottom, but this did not detract from our enjoyment of this hotel. There is a safe, free and no deposit, but you need to ask for the key. The bed was very comfortable, but I was not certain if it was two singles pushed together or just two single mattresses on a double base. Did not cause any problems, we both slept soundly. Room has air-con, but can be difficult to work out how to set. I think one night we had it on timed and it turned off. The thing that makes this for me is the staff, in particular the reception staff. Always helpful, people you can have a laugh with, especially the 50% venetian, did not ask what the other 50% was. The fact is you are so close to St Marks and can head out to the Rialto from the hotel and are surrounded by eateries, bars and ice cream shops that you will be well catered for. Breakfast is a good selection of ham, cheese, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, breads, cakes, so something for every taste. Some may moan about the machine produced coffee, but you can order some freshly prepared hot drinks, but sorry I only observed this and did not order so I cannot confirm for definite what they make. There is also some fizz and strawberries on offer at breakfast, great for a mimosa. This is not the best hotel in Venice by far, but you do pay for those grand canal views (see my review Palazzo Pisani - August 2015). All in all I would have preferred an upgrade, but if you don't ask you don't get, and if you do ask and don't get, in my opinion you will not be disappointed. One thing my American cousins should note is that the rooms are no way like those in Vegas and even some of the hotel chains across the States, you have to remember this is an old building, not originally designed to be an hotel (I apologise if that is stating the obvious!!). Yes they could have made all the bedrooms bigger and cut down on the number, but the price would rocket. It's great location and superb staff make this a hotel I would strongly recommend to visitors. I will definitely revisit, unless I am pushing to boat out for the Gritti Palace, Danieli or the Bauer.

« cant wait to come back ( again) »

This was my 9th visit to Venice and my 4th stay at the Monte Carlo. I love the proximity to St Marks Square as well as the friendly staff (some are still there after 12 years) Rooms are decorated in a Venetian style which some visitors may find old fashioned, but you're in Venice, you shouldn't be hanging around in your room. All rooms have a safe ( despite the American woman complainingto reception that her room didn't have one. Open your eyes dear, they're built into he wall!) Bathrooms are clean and this time we had a bath as well as a shower, great for soaking feet after all that walking. On this occasion our room wasn't as good as some of the others we have stayed in at the hotel, despite my husband emailing ahead o point out this was our 4th stay....room was a little on the small side. One slight niggle is that it was difficult to plug in chargers, hair straighteners etc because once they were plugged into an adapterother appliances had to be unplugged. For example to plug in straighteners near the mirror I would have had to unplug the clock/ iPad docking station which would then have needed to be reset everytime. I ended up unplugging the fridge and TV. One of my pet hates in hotels round the world is when there isn't a mirror close to a useable plug socket. Breakfast at the hotel is good with a gaiety of choices although we did have to listen to an elderly American grumbling about there being no bagels.....erm this is Italy not Kansas! When we return to Venice ( hopefully in the not too distant future, we will definitely stay here again. Visitors from certain countries should note the following- Theres no swimming pool Not much of a view No valet parking !!! And no bagels. :-)

« Outstanding service and great location. »

We stayed for two nights in The Best Western Montecarlo. It is very well situated, just a short walk from St Mark's Square and tucked away in the network of streets that lead off the main square. Just outside the hotel the traveller is spoilt for choice with regard to eating and drinking. ( It is considerably cheaper the further away from the square you eat and drink). We were given a very warm welcome and taken to our rooms by a very obliging porter. Sadly, we had the misfortune to be pick pocketed on our way to the hotel and the desk staff went the extra mile to ensure that we understood how to report the theft and that we knew how to get to the local police station. This quality of service was evident throughout our stay. The room we had was very quiet and furnished in a traditional Venetian style. It was clean and spacious, although the bathroom was rather small and there was a lack of places to put toiletries down. The bed was large and very comfortable. Breakfast was varied with plenty of fresh fruit, and there was something to tempt everyone. We were offered a free trip to The Murano glass Factory, organised by the hotel and free of charge. There was no pressure to buy and the trip on the water across to the factory was worth it in itself. Transfers to Marco Polo Airport were relatively straightforward but to Treviso Airport it involved a water taxi and then a coach - total cost over £100 so beware to book Marco Polo for your Venetian Adventure!

    « Excellent choice! »

I booked this hotel not knowing what to expect although I did read the reviews. The hotel is exceptionally very well located, the staff are amazingly helpful, the hotel is clean and comfortable especially for a 3 star!! Will definitely revisit.

« On par with the best »

Having always stayed in 5 star hotels in every destination, this was simply an unaffordable option when visiting Venice. After reading many reviews I decided to book our 2 rooms for 5 nights with the Best Western Montecarlo. The hotel building cannot obviously compare to a 5 star, which was expected, however the service is absolutely amazing. The location is excellent, a few seconds away from San Marco (St Marks Square) and very convenient for all amenities. There is lovely food and ice cream a short walk away in the direction of the Realto Bridge, I wouldn't recommend any of the tourist traps near San Marco. The rooms at the hotel can seem a little small, but this is typical of all the buildings in Venice. I have a back problem, but the beds were very comfortable. The only thing I noticed was a lack of power points in the bedrooms. Our family room (for 4) only had one spare power point, which is hardly adequate, but wasn't an issue for us as I always carry an extension lead when I travel. The air conditioning was absolutely fine, with no issues, and the wifi was a good strength and speed. The breakfast served is of a decent quality, but the quality of service especially from the staff at the front desk is second to none. I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone visiting Venice.

    « Perfect Location »

This hotel is absolutely in the perfect location when staying in Venice. The hotel was easy to find -following the hotels instructions. Booking in went smoothly & the staff were friendly & efficient. The porter took us to our room. Really nice Venician decor, but the room was small although functional. The shower room was tiny- again functional. The bed was comfortable, there was also a good sized wardrobe, television, dressing table & mini bar. Breakfast was fab- a buffet with a really good selection- both hot and cold, even strawberries and champagne! I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again when I return to Venice.

Rooms are nice neat and clean the rooms are a little old fashioned but bathroom modern and very clean. Staff very helpful Close to St Marco Square - not great if you want a lay in but great FOR getting amazing sunrise picture Great location Good value for money

« Great location great hotel »

Located about 150 yards from St Mark's Square hidden up a very narrow alley. Good breakfast - varied - bacon, sausage, scrambled egg, toast, breads, cakes, cheese, fruit, cereal. The room was spotless and the shower was powerful. Staff were very friendly. We were in a room facing onto the alley but there was no disturbing street noise. Hardly surprising as Venice appears to close at 10 o'clock!

« Small but beautifully formed »

This has to be one of the smallest big chain hotels I have every stayed in and our room was no different! Couldn't have been more than 8ft by 12ft with the bed up against the wall which made for interesting manouvers in the night if one needed to use the toilet. Having said that it had everything we needed and was clean. The bed was very comfortable, the air conditioning worked and with the shutters closed at night was wonderfully dark and quiet. There is a safe - you just have to ask at reception for the key - not offered automatically on checking in. It is situated about 90 seconds from St Marks Square so it is easy to get to with your suitcases. The staff are friendly and sort of helpful - when asked when the Basilica opened we were told 8.30 when it is actually 9.30! No mention of the free trip to Murano but we made our own way. The breakfast was very good and we loved the imitation train carriage we sat in to have it. Were there for our wedding anniversary which we mentioned on our booking form but sadly this did not get us any perks! Would we stay again or recommend it - have to say yes.

« Great Location, Excellent Staff »

The hotel is located bang next to San Marco Square, and is less than 5 minutes by walk to the square and all its attractions - Doge's palace, St Mark's Basilica etc. The staff are very friendly and very responsive. Getting from the airport is quite easy. It costs 17 eur per head to hire a private taxi to the San Marco pier. The hotel quoted 350 EUR for the same. Please note that if you have a lot of luggage, you have quite a tough walk to the hotel. If you have light luggage, you should be fine. We left most of our luggage at the airport and carried only a bag for the one night we stayed in Venice. Rooms are a bit on the smaller side, but this is a feature of any hotel in Venice. Assuming that one spends the major part of the day outdoors, and not inside the hotel, i guess this is something we can live with. Price is not too steep, and is on par with other hotels around. Breakfast is decent, with a good variety to select from. Enough options for vegetarians as well, as long as one is happy with bread and fresh fruits. Wifi is not great, it could be faster. But it is free, so cannot complain. The Mini bar is well stocked and reasonably priced. The attached restaurant next door offers some wonderful pasta. I didnt care much for their Pizza though, and found it very rubbery.

« Beautiful little gem just off San Marco Square »

The hotel is clean, comfortable and affordable. The staff have been extremely pleasant and helpful. We have been very impressed by how easy it is to enjoy Venice when you are leaving San Marco as everyone else is coming in. The breakfast is absolutely fabulous with bacon and eggs, pancakes, cheeses, you hurt, toast, confetti, cheesecake, cereal, etc. etc., you get the picture. There is even champagne available if you would like a mimosas. It is so well done. The trip offered to The New Murano Gallery is worth taking'm Nguyen. It is free, and of course they would like you to buy something. Everything was way out of our price range, but our guide Marco was interesting and informative, and the boat ride was awesome. Don't eat at the Antica Pinola restaurant associated with the hotel. The food was fairly good, but way overpriced! Seventy three euros for two small portions of pasta, a tiny bottle of house wine, and a bottle of water! Overall, very happy with the hotel...we do have a lovely room, 102, just up the stairs from the lobby.

« Too hot, items missing, saggy bed. »

The hotel on first impression didn't seem too bad. We stayed on the third floor, as there were three of us the room was quite large. However, the extra bed was well worn and saggy in the middle. It was well past its best and was no longer fit for use. We let that go as when you stay somewhere only a few days you don't want to spend the first day complaining. However as night fell the room got warmer and warmer we tried to turn the air conditioning to a cooler temp but it would not drop to below 16 degrees, we reported this to the desk who advised they would send a an engineer, I never saw one and it was never mentioned again. We just had to cope but this made the air conditioning kind of useless, each night was very uncomfortable. We lived out of a suitcase and assumed our possessions were safe. We returned home to find several items missing, and no they were not left in the room.... I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Location is not enough and the hotel needs to work harder on its customer service and guest comfort.

« Location, Location, Location, Location »

This hotel is just off of San Marco Square. This leads to its first benefit - no bridges to cross (and hoist your luggage over) between the Alilaguna (airport water taxi) stop and the hotel. The hotel itself is down a small street named Calle degli Specchieri. The street looks like an alley and when you are coming from the square, the sign up on the building actually reads "Calle de la Rizza". (from the other direction the signs on the opposite building read "Per Rialto" and "Alle Poste E Telegrafo"). The hotel itself is small with clean, although small, rooms and a very responsive staff. One of the features of the hotel is they will arrange for a free trip to a glass factory in Murano. After the all to brief demonstration, they will take you through their show room with the attendant sales effort. However the water taxi ride down the back canals of Venice are well worth any sales pitch. Give or take the "lots of twisty windy passages, all alike" nature of Venice, the hotel was very convenient to everything we wanted to see. I recommend it highly

    « Disappointed »

We arrived in Venice by private taxi with another couple who have never been to Venice so we wanted to give them an experience like no other,we were very early as we had flown in from Australia,so we were able to leave our luggage at the hotel and explore the island with its narrow lanes and lovely shops full of Venetian masks and cafes, our friends were amazed, late in the afternoon we returned to our hotel and were given our keys to our rooms,we had booked DELUX rooms which our friends got but when we opened our door which was at the end of a corridor and in a corner we were taken aback as it was the smallest room I've ever stayed in ,we could open our suitcases then not get into bed.I paid a lot of money for a DELUX room but ended up with a small standard room and it has left me really disappointed ,but with that I have to say the breakfast was fantastic and the location was great

I arrived by water taxi from the airport. The water taxi ride was about 20 minutes and was a little nice. There is no information given by the taxi drivers, just take pictures as you go along. Enjoy..

« Close to St Mark's Square! In the middle of the tourist action »

Our group had four different rooms. Please be aware that almost all of Venice is 400-500 years old and this building is as well! It is extremely well maintained but the rooms are each a little different. Ours had plenty of outlets to charge our electronics but my sister's room was lacking outlets (she had high ceilings and a beautiful chandelier, we had low ceilings but a great roof-top view!) Rooms are small-ish by average American standards but not by standards of big cities like Paris and London. Outstanding service and very good breakfast included. Cleanliness top notch! A/C was OK, not outstanding, but that is true in many places in Europe. We were there a few days before a cruise. The crowds were the biggest issue for me. Get reservations for dinner (we needed this as we were a group!) and if you choose to see the Doge's palace or the inside of St. Mark's Cathedral. Water taxi service to the hotel was over 100 Euro. Vaporetto is reasonable but was more than we wanted to face with lots of luggage for the cruise and after an overnight and delayed flight. It is not too far from the vaporetto stop to the hotel. It is a bit of a trick to find the first time as what counts as a "street" is Venice is one quarter of an alley-width in an American city.

    « Venice Trip 2016 »

Booked a four day stay for two couples. Check in and reception overall very helpful. One note of caution, with the increasing number of cruise stop-overs BWM and other hotels are facing increased demand for late check-outs, so one room was ten minutes off being ready when we checked in. Room spacious enough, with aircon, fridge and tv, bathroom good quality. Cleaning top drawer! Breakfast is self service but a good buffet with hot and cold options, no limits! Very convenient for St Mark's Square and sightseeing. They do not demand the city tax up front, you pay that on leaving. Very satisfied indeed, nice people.

    « Stay in Venice »

Hotel was in a great location, very close to St. Mark's Square. Staff was extremely accommodating and helpful, especially with us navigating Venice for the first time and not speaking Italian. Room was the largest room we stayed in while in Europe. We would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Venice.

    4
    « Brilliant location »

The hotel is on a tiny but beautiful alleyway. 5 minutes walk from the water ferry and just off San Marco square. Staff were knowledgable and helpful.....the room (214) was small but everything was of high quality. Breakfast was really nice, wide choice......just a bit cramped.

    « Venice vacation »

This hotel is the nicest Best Western we have ever stayed at. I would not lump it in with other 3 star hotels by any means. The rooms come quite close to sizes in the US. Regarding the AC.....it worked for us. I will say that if you are expecting blizzard cold temps in the room after hot walks outside in the summer heat....you won't get that. I'm a big guy who gets hot easily and had no problems with the room temp. The location is unbeatable. You are minutes from San Marco square where all of the action is. The city is very walkable from the hotel. Cheapest transit back to the airport is ALLILAGUNA with port that is a short walk from the hotel (we did it with three suitcases). Do not feel obligated to get a private water taxi and pay a lot more. The breakfast was great and offered plenty of options for vegetarians. There were always seats available. The folks were nice....not as nice as they were in Rome but certainly not rude.

« Simpatico, piccolo e centrale Hotel in Venezia »

A boutique hotel close to St Marks Square. Elevator available. This smoke-free room was very clean, not too small as expected for Venice, comfortable bed, with WiFi included, very nice decorated. The fridge has a variety of snakes and drinks. The continental breakfast was very sumptuous, including prosecco. If you like a real coffee just ask otherwise drink the instant coffee from the machine. The personnel was very friendly, polite and also multilingual. We used the ACTV vaporetto from arrival to trips on the Grand Canal, to Murano and back to the airport. The pass was very much worth. The station yo get to the hotel is Rialto, with a short walk. We would certainly stay at BEST WESTERN Hotel Montecarlo again.

    « Great Venice hotel »

I have read all of the reviews here and have only compliments for this hotel. The location is perfect. The staff was amazing. They were helpful and pleasant. The food for breakfast was delicious and a large selection of breakfast items. The room we had was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable. This was a great hotel with a lot of character. If you want a more modern, newer hotel go somewhere else. This is a beautiful historic hotel. My ONLY complaint is the so called complimentary tour to Murano arranged by the hotel. This is not a tour. They are delivering you and your wallet to the Signoretti glass factory for a high pressure sales visit. They will start out very friendly but as soon as they realize you are not spending thousands of dollars on their glass they escort you to the dock and make you wait as the other people finish there transactions. My advice would be to take the taxi provided by the hotel see the glass blowing, breeze through the showroom and head out to Murano which is a beautiful little island with shops and restaurants and beautiful views. Take the public ferry back to Venice. If not for anything you get a free taxi to Murano. I would stay here again snd will when I come back to beautiful Venice.

    « Perfect hotel »

We stayed in this hotel for two nights during a quick trip to Venice. I could not have been happier with our choice. It's an old building so yes, the rooms are small, but the beds are comfortable. Our AC worked great. The location is perfect. Just off San Marco square with easy access to the water buses. The breakfast buffet was huge and delicious. A wide variety of breakfast meats, eggs, cheeses, pastries, etc. The staff at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. We did the free tour to Murano and enjoyed it. Be prepared for them to walk you through the gallery hoping you'll buy a $6,000 piece. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and highly recommend it to others!

    « Great little 3 star hotel »

We booked Best Western Monte Carlo after arriving at another hotel in Venice and not liking what we saw . We contacted them at 5pm in the afternoon and were given a room and an early book in for the next day. The room was good the, breakfast plentiful and tasty and the concierge (s) very helpful. One of them went to the trouble of taking us with him to show us the quickest way to get to the railway station! The location is handy 5 minutes from St Marks Square.

    4
« Quaintly decorated, traditional hotel conveniently located off San Marco Sq »

The concierge absolutely makes this hotel, lovely warm greeting, well organised and slick check in. Gave some really helpful suggestions for restaurants, travel etc. I had also contacted the hotel in advance and they provided some very useful directions and pointers how to get to and from the airport. We did take the 'free' tour to Murano, which was good fun but was a very heavy sale - they did drop us off at the other side of the water but not near the hotel - because we didn't buy anything. No matter to us as we wanted to walk around, but others might be a little put off by this. The hotel rooms were small but perfectly organised with some beautifully decorated furniture. Bathroom was compact but well structured and very clean. Breakfast was fun - the breakfast room is designed to look like the Orient Express. Food was good quality and service fast and friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

« Charming hotel in a great location »

The hotel is a very short walk from St. Marks Square. The hotel itself is a great place. The rooms, although small to U.S. standards, is great for small families who want a comfortable place to stay. A triple room we stayed in has a queen size bed with a twin size bed for our child. The room's Venetian style added to the charm of place. The bathroom was also small compared to U.S. standards, but the size seems to be standard to Italian hotels. The air conditioning worked okay with this room. It was better than the other hotels we stayed at in Rome and Venice. The view from the windows wasn't much, but considering how narrow the "streets" are in Venice, you will see the neighbor across the street. Yes, this seems to be typical for any hotel on the island. The breakfast buffet was very good, with some American options (such as pancakes, scrambled eggs) along with what you see at other Italian hotels. The coffee machines were great if you needed a quick cup. The room staff can make you a good cappuccino if you would like. Overall, we enjoyed our stay there and would stay there again.

« Great Location, fantastic hotel »

Stayed here for four nights, Great hotel, great staff, there were no issues at all. Check in was smooth, everyone is shown to their room by a porter. All the staff were really helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Hotel and bedrooms was very clean, rooms are made up each morning and staff will close the shutters put the aircon on and turn the sheets back ready for bed each evening! Breakfast was good, mostly continental with plenty of choice from self service buffet. Hotel was located a few yards from St Marks square, easy to walk to most locations as well as the water bus stops. I would not hestiate to stay again and would recommend it to anyone.

    « OK »

The staff was very pleasant. The concierge was always willing to help. Don't take the free glass blowing tour offered ! A waste of time and obviously a kickback. Great location. The beds were very uncomfortable! The carpet look like it needed cleaning or to be replaced. Which sent me into panic mode. But we came home unscabbed. There was three of us staying, so the room size seem to be fine in comparison to other hotel's.

    3
« Very very small room »

The smallest room I've seen in a long while (pictures can be misleading), hence not the best price-quality ratio. Very good location and breakfast. Not the most welcoming reception staff. When you connect to the (free) wifi, they transfer you to their facebook page and will not let you use the wifi unless you check in on their facebook page. Not very pleasant if you don't want everyone to know where you are.

« Nice venice home base »

I only want a Venice hotel to give me a place to sleep a few hours and possibly a good breakfast before I leave for the day, but this one gave me both in excellent fashion. In general, the hotel was nicely decorated with everything in good repair. The room was well sized for two, even if in a faux antique style that was not my favorite. There were excellent room darkening drapes, but no view, of course, due to the cramped street plan in Venice. Despite the streets our northern-facing room was very quiet. Our air conditioner worked fine. Italy seems to have no washcloths anywhere, fyi. Morning breakfast was sumptuous, compared to my requirements, apparently to satisfy the taste of many nationalities. The staff was very polite and friendly. I would look forward to staying here again.

« Fantastic hotel in a great location close Piazza San Marco »

We changed hotels to BW Montecarlo and we were very happy. The hotel is very well appointed. Rooms lovely. Staff so nice and super helpful. Great location. Good breakfast. And all for 140 Euros per night for a twin room. It's the lowest cost hotel we have stayed in during our time in Italy and it was one of the nicest. Don't hesitate to book.

    2
    « Very Hot Visit »

I was very surprised at this hotel when I arrived. It wasn't what I expected after reading the great reviews. The hotel is very dated. Our room never got cool during our entire stay. There isn't any way for guests to control their own heat and air. When we talked to the gentleman at the front desk about our concern he was very rude. He said, "This is a historical hotel Madame, not Las Vegas!" He didn't offer any solution to the problem. Finally we slept with the window open to get a little breeze. From the room decor, linens, customer service, and physical building I would rate this hotel below average.

    2
    « KEEP LOOKING...DON'T STAY HERE! »

The only good thing about this hotel is the proximity to San Marco Square. The room was extremely hot and it did not cool down even after the sun had set. The staff were unbothered by the extreme heat even to the point of telling me that this is not Las Vegas. I have stayed in the Cannaregio area before and was a much better area to stay in overall.

    « A wonderful place to stay »

The Best Western Montecarlo is very convenient to San Marco Piazza and the Basilica. It is equidistant between the San Marco and Rialto ACTV Vaporetto stops for the water bus. Getting here from the Marco Polo Airport is very easy. Tbe Alilaguna Water Shuttle costs €15,00 and is a 45 minute trip. The single room is small by American standards but it is clean and cosy. Two people may feel cramped but you can book a larger room if available. Remember that Venice is a centuries old city and many amenities tourists may be used to are downsized. The daily breakfast which is included is excellent. Scrambled eggs, bacon. Chicken sausages along with an extensive selection of pastries, dry cereals, fruit and vegetable salads are presented in an appetizing and hygienic manner. The staff is very helpful and service oriented. You must leave your room key with the front desk but your valuables can be kept in a "real safe" locked with a key that you keep on your own perrson at all times. As for the negative reviews on TripAdvisor, I read them with a grain of salt. I see these "tourists" all the time. Being a demanding, cheap, and condescending person is not unique to any one nationality. Come on folks, read the fine print and for heavens sake, take out a reputable travel insurance policy to cover any eventuality that may arise. You are traveling to a land far from home and all the luxuries/amenities you are accustomed to. If you are that hard to satisfy, book the Hotel Danielli on the Grand Canal; I am sure that they will cater to your every whim. As for the 3 star Best Western Montecarlo, I was very happy with my stay and will come back.

    « Fantastic staff »

We stayed for 2 nights in a classic double. It was small but we were told previous to our trip that most of the places are small in Venice. The shower especially was tiny. Regardless of this the place was lovely. Clean, comfortable, a little street noise at night (we were on level two) but above all the staff and service was fantastic. The reception staff went above and beyond to help us with absolutely everything we needed. The gentleman helping us with the bags to the room and to the water taxi when we left were helpful and friendly. The kitchen staff were friendly and greeted you each morning ready for a wonderful buffet breakfast with a wide variety. Best service in Italy thus far (been in Italy for 2weeks now). The location on the hotel is fantastic. Short walk to everything. We managed to forget certain things throughout the day so we quickly popped back to the room which also allowed us to drop off any shopping we did it was all so convenient as it was so close. The hotel does offer you a free glass tour and boat ride to the glass factory which I thought was amazing in the beginning however... Well it is a nice boat ride over and the quick glass making show was exciting to watch live. The tour of the display rooms was nice but we waited about 45mins to get back to San Marco which we could have been doing and seeing other things. The people at the glass making place were lovely in the beginning but once realised we weren't buying anything other than some small items they didn't want a bar of us. Although it's free I wouldn't recommend it. I hear you can do the same thing without going to any small islands, so unless you have a lot of free time maybe skip that one. Definitely recommend this hotel and would go back again

    « Basic hotel »

Basic hotel, WiFi was free int he room, but was very slow. Room was quite small and basic, AC worked properly, so that was a plus. Bathroom is really small, I can barely fit in the toilet space as I am quite chubby. The shower did not have even a soap dish, I guess you either hold the soap in hands all the time while you shower, or put on the floor? Yuck! You can hear everything through doors, so no privacy at all. The location is great, steps from san marco.

    « Hidden Gem »

This hotel is a little gem hidden off a side street less than a 5 minute walk to St Mark's. Plenty of dining choices nearby. The room was clean and comfortable. Considered small by American standards but fine for our party of 3. The staff was friendly and helpful. Plenty of options for breakfast...cereal, pastries, juices, coffee. Great location for dining and major sights in Venice.

« Very nice hotel with great service »

After using tripadvisor to research our hotel for our stay in Venice, we did not feel comfortable with any of the small boutique hotels as the reviews were all over the spectrum. So we decided to stay ion a chain hotel and we were not disappointed. While it was not the most economical hotel it had good reviews and we have had good experiences at Best Western hotels in Europe. The hotel was very clean, conveniently located and a free continental breakfast was included; the breakfast was very tasty and good selection. The service was great and the employees were extra helpful. Would highly recommend. As is everything in Venice, it is not real cheap but not super expensive either.

    « A gem in beautiful city »

Just off St Marks Square a lovely comfortable hotel with excellent attentive staff. The rooms are clean and the décor befits the city..for any American readers the rooms may not be the size you are used to but are perfectly adequate. We took the Aliluguna water bus from the airport..it's a 7 minute walk from the terminal to pick it up. The walk from St Marks Square where the bus stops is 5mins to the hotel. Enjoy exploring and getting lost in the city in the knowledge that the main areas are well signposted on the walls.(Google maps was a great help as well). Breakfast is good and the hotel is surrounded by bars and restaurants. When we left we took a water taxi back to the airport which was booked by the hotel and is a 2min walk from the door..a fine way to leave a magical city.

« Complimentary Prosecco and Excellent Location - Best hotel in Venice »

Located just behind St Mark's Square on a narrow street, what this hotel lacks in size it more than makes up for in outstanding customer service. We were greeted daily by smiling Fabrizio who was always ready to help. Mr. Dario would go above and beyond our expectations, by printing vaporetto schedules, maps, and suggestions for our activities. He'd ask us what we were doing that day and then improve upon our plans with his local knowledge. Michael the porter must be the hardest working member of staff. Always smiling and happy to accommodate our every request. His job is not easy as the lift is small and there are 4 or 5 flights of stairs. He must be on his feet all day going up and down those stairs. The room was decorated in traditional Venetian decor. The carpet was a bit tired but everything else was perfect. Lots of hot water, comfortable beds, plenty of room for suitcases and TV with English stations. The real highlight other than the location is the breakfast buffet. So much to choose from, and they kept everything topped up throughout the morning. I was partial to the homemade pancakes. It was a real treat to have those every morning along with complimentary Prosecco. I stayed here with 3 friends in 2 twin rooms. We all thought the hotel was outstanding. It seemed all the other guests agreed with us. All I heard in reception at check out time were thanks and great comments from the other guests, too. I'll be coming back to the Best Western Monte Carlo!

This is an option with Jet2 and we were very satisfied with our stay given the price we paid for the package. Hotel is just off the main square, Staff excellent and friendly. Room cleaned, sheets and towels changed every day. We had B & B and the breakfast was very good. Choice of 6 cereals, several juices, hot breakfast scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon, cold buffet options, fruit, toast, croissants with fillings, coffee machine and twining's teas. Tea and coffee in room and also mini fridge stocked with variety of drinks. Air conditioning and very quiet. The hotel is also in a good area for restaurants budget to expensive.

    « A fantastic experience »

Our travel agent suggested this hotel based on the feedback from their other clients. We were not disappointed. The hotel can be a little hard to find, but it is Ina great location very close to St. Marks Square and the Rialto area where lots restaurants and shopping can be found. We found Rialto to be significantly less expensive than San Marcos. He hotel has very neat and clean rooms. The hotels rooms are designed with an old school Italian design in mind. Each room has multiple windows that the guest can open up to look and listen to what's happening on the street below, as well as letting in a nice breeze. The free morning breakfast is fantastic. Very fresh food with pastries, fruits, meats and cheeses. They also have many types of coffee and champagne to choose from- all free. Finally, and most importantly is the service that we received from the front desk staff. Carlo, Fabrizio and Dario were all great and accommodating. Carlo went out of his way to make us a "to go" breakfast when we left on a morning at 5:10am to catch a train to Rome. Overall, this was a wonderful experience for our family and I will not hesitate to recommend this hotel to others.

Location - a short walk to both San Marco Square and the Rialto Bridge. There are ferries at both of these locations. We always felt safe down the little sidestreets and alleyways. Room - no luxuries as you might expect for on average $500 AUD per night. Standard bedding and room with air con and basic tea and coffee. We booked for 3 adults and were given 2 single beds and a rollaway - as above, not expected for cost of the room. This was however rectified the following day when an actual bed was put in the room. Breakfast - a little different from the usual cereal, fruit and eggs. Breakfast included nuggets, potato gems, pancakes and champagne. Still only had machine coffee. Staff - very well spoken in English on reception and in the breakfast room. Our bedding situation was fixed asap. I think there would be other hotels that offer better value for money.

Went to Venice for a short weekend break. What an amazing place. Stayed in the Best Western Montecarlo that was located about 5 minutes from the main square. The staff were very helpful, very attentive and very friendly. The room were OK but could do with a spruce up but very clean !! If you are going to the cathedral book up online as you can get in very quickly. Eating / having a drink in the square is very expensive but is to be expected. We ate and drank in the back streets of Venice and the food and service was exceptional. Must do the Gondola but again go to the back streets by the hotel as they take you into the heart of the canals in Venice. be careful if you go to the glass blowing on another island as even though it is good to watch the do try to pressurize you into buying the glassware on display. Burrito where they make the lace is an awesome place and well worth a visit. You must also do the taxi ride from the airport to you location 100 Euros but well worth it.

    « Sightseeing trip may 2016 »

We picked this hotel for its easy location as it's was a couple of streets behind ST MARKS SQUARE which was handy to find when we got dropped off at the warter taxi stop right by ST MSRKS SQUARE as cars only go as far as the north of the island and we were in the centre. The only transport around the majority of Venice is by boat. We are always impressed whenever we stay in a best westerns hotel so that's why we picked this one.

    « Very central »

It was quite a straightforward transfer from Marco Polo airport to the hotel, by the vaporetto water bus, for which we bought return tickets from a very helpful English speaking Italian lady at the public transport desk in the arrivals hall( 54 euros for a return ticket for two instead of 60 euros for four singles- every little helps!). The transfer took about 80 minutes and we saw the lagoon, which was a little grey because the weather was cloudy. Got off at St Marks square, and following the instructions provided by the hotel (ie past the basilica and under the clock tower, first right and second left) we were at the Montecarlo within 5-10 minutes.Very pleasant hotel, with helpful staff and a wonderful eat as much as you like breakfast served from 7.00am to 10.00am( I had several courses and particularly liked the scrambled eggs and frankfurter sausages).Unencumbered by suitcases, we were less than 5 minutes from St Marks square where we went on the obligatory gondola ride the next day when the sun came out for a few hours! The hotel was a great base for exploring Venice by foot and I particularly liked the bathroom which had two washbasins (so no fighting over who cleaned their teeth first!). Our room was number 413 on the third floor, so it was good excercise for free. The view from our room over the orange tiled roofs of Venice was picturesque. There is a lift but it is tiny, so walking up the stairs was the best option. There are plenty of restaurants and bars almost on the doorstep, so plenty to choose from, depending on your budget and preferences. The only thing I was not too keen on was that every time you went out you had to hand your key (attached to a piece of wood with a tassel) to the reception staff which of course meant you had to ask for it back when you returned. I much prefer the electronic credit card sized keys which are less bulky and which you keep with you all the time.Another, albeit minor, minus point was that there was only one toilet for general use , which was on the first floor. Overall though a wonderful place to stay for a visit to Venice.

    « Fantastic choice! »

This was my first trip to Venice and I enojyed a lot and this hotel helped a lot with the location, service and breakfast. It is right behind San Marco Piazza and next to some of the mayor commercial streets with lots of shops and restaurants. I like to walk and the location was great to return and rest for a while and charge my phone. Breakfast is good, with enough options for a couple of days. FD staff is nice, the decor provides a nice atmosphere. My room was small but comfortable for one person (or a couple). Internet was good. I will not hesitate to return!

« Friendly and helpful staff, great location »

The hotel is a short walk from the San Marco water taxi stop and easy to find using a map. We were immediately made to feel welcome and given information about the area and suggestions on where to go. We entered the world's tiniest elevator, just big enough for the two of us, and settled into our room, which was small but clean and comfortable. The location is great, just a few minutes' walk from St. Mark's Square. This makes it a little noisy, so we were happy we had requested a room on a higher floor. I can't say enough about the staff. They were so friendly and helpful. Only drawbacks were that the air conditioning had not been turned on and the room was a bit warm and a bit noisy with the windows open.

« Excellent loc and staff »

This hotel's central loc means an efficient 1st visit to Venice, it's convenient to major sites by easy walking and didn't need to take water bus. All staff were excellent, very polite and professional with prompt service. Room on 4th floor in the back was very quiet, clean, lots of natural light, and well designed with storage options. Bkft buffet had many choices of fresh fruits, salad fixings, hot and cold food and drinks. Did not take the free tour to Murano but hope to go if back again. Highly recommend this hotel.

Despite the size, you'll feel grand in the room with the intricate decor and the cool air from the window. We just had trouble accessing this during agua alta (high tide). Always include your waterproof boots in your luggage!

« Very good hotel in fabulous location »

Located just a short walk from San Marco Square, surrounded by restaurants and shops. The staff was extremely helpful, warm and friendly. The room was small but very clean and comfortable. The only negative for me was that the room was not cleaned until late in the afternoon so we would have to wait in the lobby after returning from a day of sightseeing while the maid cleaned the room. Breakfast was plentiful and served in a lovely setting. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

This Hotel gets a huge thumbs up from me. The staff could not be more attentive and nothing is too much trouble. The location is virtually 60m from San Marco square with a great selection of traditional bars & restaurants on the doorstep. Bedrooms are very traditional and on the small side but this is more than compensated for by the superb location and fantastic staff.

« Our stay in Venice »

We were very pleased with our stay at this Best Western after a friend's recommendation. It is very conveniently located without being too pricey. The staff was extremely helpful. The rooms were very clean. Our bathroom was a nice size and updated. We were able to get a good television station for watching English speaking movies. I have read some of the rooms are not updated so inquire about this.

« Lovely Hotel, Great Location »

My two friends and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights from 10th to 13th April. The hotel is in a great location being only minutes away from St Mark's Square and the Basilica. The Manager should be really proud of his very polite and helpful staff. Nothing being too much for them to help in any way. Hotel very clean and towels changed every day. Would we stay at this hotel again, the answer is a definite yes. Would recommend this hotel highly to my friends. Thank you for an enjoyable stay.

« A Perfectly Located, Very Good Hotel »

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at this very good hotel. As others have commented its location is ideal, less than a mintute from St Mark's Square. The rooms are small but are perfectly adequate and the bathrooms are similarly small but exactly what one would expect from a small city centre hotel. Toiletries, bath and hand towels are changed daily as is bed linen unless this is not considered necessary. Staff are pleasant and helpful. We would very happily stay here again on any subsequent break in Venice.

    « Great location! »

Only 100m from St Marks. Get up early and see the square without the crowds. Friendly service. Comfortable room but can be noisy if overlooking the street. Reasonable breakfast. Offer a free trip to Murano glass factory but not worth the time.

    « Excellent hotel-nothing to criticise »

Booked this hotel on the basis of tripadvisor reviews and surpassed our high expectations. Outstanding location-a few minutes walk from St Mark's Square, rooms very clean and tidy and comfortable (we had two bedrooms) breakfast very good-Good free WiFi. Staff at front desk and in restaurant very helpful. This hotel is 3 star-in my book 4 star-we would come back and I could not find anything to criticise

« The noisiest hotel I've ever stayed at. »

I've stayed at over 100 different hotels in Europe and I have to say that this was the loudest hotel I've ever been to. We had a room that shared a window with the alley/road that has the main entrance to the hotel. You would hear every single sound coming from the street as if you were standing right out there. Most nights the streets calmed down at about midnight or so but I would highly recommend some earplugs or sleeping with headphones. Everything else about this hotel is great though. The staff was all very friendly and professional. There is free wifi and breakfast. The location is excellent as you are right next to San Marco square. The room itself is a bit older decorated (I have found this to be the same in other hotels in Venice) with a newly renovated bathroom. Actually this pretty much a perfect hotel except the noise.

« I was in the apartment with 2 rooms in the 3. floor of nearby building »

We enjoyed the two bedrooms apartment on the third floor I booked with Agoda. It's central location (1 minute away from S. Marco), it's soundproof windows that we could also open. We had every day breakfast in it after doing the shopping in the supermarket Coop 6 minutes away at the begin of our stay. The first morning we had a terrible breakfast in the cafe shop Al Campanile, 1 minute away, for the same price of 3 days eating at home in the morning and without having to suffer the bad manners of its incapable staff. In the middle of our stay our appt. was cleaned (the beds were done, the towels were changed and the toilet paper we ordered personally at the reception of the hotel were brought but nothing else. Still was nice to have it). It had no toaster but we managed to toast our baguettes (bought the day or even 2 days before) on the frying pan. It had to spots of vitroceramic or induction (I am not sure which one of them). We enjoyed watching football friendly matches in the only tv, in the masters bedroom. Venice is dead after 9,00pm. The only fault I found was that the toilet was not in a separated room. In general it was very advantageous to have our apartment in the Center of town. We stop over several times a day to leave shopping or to go to the toilet.

    « Couldn't be better situated. »

We booked the apartment. 2 bedrooms and all the space you could need which was luxurious when you see how cramped Venice is. Clean and lovely accommodation. Staff were friendly. Why not a 5? The shower wasn't the best and we were offered a free walking tour with a boat ride to Murano but this turned out to be a trip to only one glass factory who expected you to spend a lot of money. When they realised we were not going to they became quite off with us. This is not directly the hotel's fault but they misled us. If you do the trip be aware it's a sales trip only and you need to hold your nerve. Don't spend because you feel guilty about a free trip over there.

« Fabulous with Great Location »

Our family of 4- (a 7 and 5 year old) loved our stay. It started with an upgrade to a 2 bedroom suite. The view from our room was of the back and top of the clock tower and church. AMAZING! We slept well and then we were treated with a delicious breakfast. Great coffee, lots of variety, and a friendly staff. We will be back. The location was top notch! A 5 minute at most, walk to the square.

« In the heart of Venice »

The Hotel is with very good location. Few minutes walk from St Markus square. So it is also convenient if you have later flight departure. You can leave your luggage till the last moment. Do not go to restaurant close to the hotel. Ask reception about better choice. As there is possibility to visit Murano by complimentary trip organised by glass factory. You can use it as a free transport to Murano. Price at factory too high if you compare to the city. Better keep money for shopping in town. WiFi is not stable in the room. But it is ?normal? for many hotels. And? better have a couple of ear plugs to dump noise of the clock bells.

    « Excellent »

The hotel is very very good.Staff is very friendly and helpful. Knowing almost no Italian didn't prove any challenge for my family and me because the staff was quite proficient in not only English but Spanish as well. The location is only two minutes away from St. Mark's square, making it absolutely impossible to get lost finding your way back. All you needed to do was find the square and any local could point you the way.

« Perfect base for Venice stay »

Could not have picked a better hotel for position, literally one minute from St Marks square. We were only in Venice for two nights so it was great to have such a good position. The hotel was very well equipped and decorated in typically Venetian style, beds were comfy and the bathroom very well equipped, the whole place was immaculately clean. Breakfast was included buffet style and lovely, we had no issue getting a table. I would use this hotel again

    3
« Cozy but very noisy »

Nice reception, cozy hotel but the noise levels from the street and corridors (seemed like some happy noisy people were unleashed in the corrider at 3 AM, likely a freak occurrence) did not allow for much sleep. Breakfast basic, staff very nice.

« Central location, remarkably easy to find. »

We were a party of 6 and 4 of us had single rooms. Rooms were perfect with comfortable beds and modern clean bathroom. Breakfast was plentiful- both hot and cold selection. The staff could not have been more helpful. The location- minutes from San Marco- was ideal. Would recommend for great value and comfort.

« Great location, old Venetian styled rooms »

The location is superb, just a min walk from st marks square and 5 mins walk from Rialto bridge. The rooms are tiny but I guess that's a problem with all central hotels. I somewhat didn't like the old style as it made the room look more cramped. Breakfast was excellent and staff helpful!

    3
    « Disappointing »

The room was tiny, not at all representative of the photo on the website I used to book. I think the problem was single occupancy, if I had paid for double I would have had a room more like the one shown. Breakfast was very good though and the staff were extremely helpful. Very reasonably priced but I would have gladly paid more for a comfortable room. Very close to the stunning San Marco square and the Bridge of sighs, and a short walk to the Rialto bridge. If you want cheap and cheerful and don't mind a cramped room, go for it.

« Brilliant value in amazing location »

First ever visit to Venice and travelling alone I was looking for a hotel with a central location where I could get a good breakfast to fill me up for the day! Chose this hotel based on those criteria and after reading reviews. Found hotel easily in a tiny alleyway steps from San Marco. A totally fa tasks location for a first time visitor. The day before I travelled had been a bit of a nuisance on email asking for a room with a bathtub. I was told firmly but politely (twice) that this wasn't possible but when I arrived was proudly told at reception that they had gone the extra mile and my room did indeed have a bathtub. I was incredibly pleased by such brilliant service and was always treated with courtesy and helpfulness by the hotel staff during my 3 day visit. Room 314 was a delight. Lovely furniture, comfortable bed and all the amenities I needed for a short stay. It was a small room and the TV was on a very high wall above my bed - but then I hadn't gone to Venice to watch TV in a hotel room. Breakfast was extraordinarily good and offered a really full range of choices and some of the best ever scrambled egg I have ever eaten. This was good because I actually found some of the local restaurants disappointing - expensive, mean and uncaring of their food, probably because this is of course as touristy a place as you could possibly find. It didn't feel at all like a chain hotel despite being labelled Best Western and if I am ever fortunate enough to visit Venice again I will definitely stay there. Hopefully again with a bathtub, and given the number of kms I walked over that weekend I definitely did need a good long soak! My thanks to everyone at the Montecarlo

    « An enjoyable experience »

The hotel is small and romantic, with a Venetian decor, very clean and close to San Marco Square and Rialto (abt half-way). Staff was extremely warm and helpfull, and breakfast was excellent. The bathroom had a bidet, which is always a plus for us, and everything was perfectly clean. The room is small, so the double bed was against the wall, but otherwise very comfortable.

    « Wonderful comfortable stay. »

Hotel staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The room was large with a new bathroom. Breakfast was a big suprise with a great choice of cooked food, fruit ham and cheese. Location could not have been better. 1 minute to St Marco and 4 minutes to Rialto. Would highly recommend this hotel

« Great location, fantastic hotel, awesome staff »

We spent 4 nights at this hotel during the carnival. The location is superb, practically steps away from St. Mark's square and within walking distance from all city attractions. The room was sized well and comfy, nicely decorated and the bathroom freshly updated. Breakfast is nice and has diversity of options. Even when we arrived near its end time, there was plenty of food in the buffet. The staff is welcoming, polite and knowledgeable. They assisted us with any request we had and always with a smile. The one and only thing to consider is that rooms facing the alley may be somewhat noisy if you desire to catch an afternoon nap (or if it is carnival time). Rather than that, all is perfect.

    « Great hotel »

The staff were very friendly and helpful. When coming back into the hotel after being out the gave me the key without asking for my room number.!! The room was fitted out in keeping with the Venetian style, but the bathrooms were ultra modern. Breakfast was buffet style as in other hotels, but they also had hot food which is unusual for Venice. The location was excellent, just off Saint Marks square, but also very quiet.Overall I was extremely happy with the hotel and would stay there again

    « Great location! »

This is a good hotel, well located - just 2 min walk from St. Marks. Fully met our expectations. However, this hotel does not have king size beds! All beds are twin beds put together - if you wish extra comfort with your partner - ask for a one-piece mattress to be put on the beds - this solves the problem. We stayed one night and it was great! We asked for breakfast in bed - it arrived on time and it was very good! Don't ask the reception for a recommendation where to have a snack - they offer you to go to Rosso Pomodoro - this is not the best place at least to say - very noisy, crowded, food is so-so. It looks like all nearby hotels suggest their guests to go there for lunch. GO to Trattoria A La Bricola which is 3-4 min walking - to the right from the hotel entrance (when you walk out from the hotel) on the same street. At first, it confused us that there were no visitors around 6 pm, but when the food was served all our confusions went away - very friendly personnel, great food, great music, very romantic! We visited this place twice in the evening - first time to have dinner, and second - to have some wine with cheese and parma ham. The second time there were more visitors, but still not crowded and very romantic.

    « A gem, no doubt »

This hotel is just 1 minute walk from the San Mark Square, easy enough to take the Vaporetto to San Marco then walk there. The rooms are also OK in size and the toilets are great. Very quiet in the night to have good sleep. Breakfast with wide selection and they also offered free tours to the Murano island glass factory. Good service and I would like to stay there again next time in Venice.

« Perfect Location and Comfortable stay »

The first thing about this hotel is the location. It is absolutely almost at Piazza San Marco. For the location and luxury the price was reasonable. Breakfast spread was very good. Room and linen were clean. We had a room on second floor and in spite of being in the most central location it was peaceful and we got a good night's sleep. Nothing negative to say about this hotel. It was a perfect stay.

    3
« Dank rooms, good location »

The location of the hotel is pretty good but we were shocked by the small size of the room we were offered. It was definitely smaller than what our reservation specified. We insisted on a room change and was given a slightly bigger room which had no view and had a constant dank and musty smell and a run down look. One didn't get hot water immediately and would had to let the taps run for a while before we got hot water. The wifi was very fast. We were a bit depressed with our room and checked out after the 2nd day though we had booked for 3 days. It was the most expensive room of our trip of Italy and the most unimpressive.

« The heart of Venice »

Located just minutes from St Marks Square, this hotel offered comfort and peace and quiet close to the teeming heart of the city. Our Post Xmas New Year treat was every bit as fabulous as we could have hoped for. Our room in the hotel was small but perfectly formed, Venitian in style with a good sized modern bathroom, it ticked all the boxes of combining a taste of old world glamour with modern comfort and convenience. Situated at the back, the room was quiet when we retreated after the firework display even though the city was loud with crowds of excited people enjoying the first hours of 2016. Breakfast offered a wide choice of fruit, pastries, cheeses, cold meats and hot dishes of Italian smoked bacon and scrambled eggs (as an egg addict, I found this excellent, a great improvement on the watery concoction that stands in for scrambled eggs in most UK hotels). Dinner was available at a wide range of nearby restaurants at variable prices and of variable standard. We found the menu de jour in many places good value, often 12-18 euros for starter, main course and vegetable. Best of all was the street food, amazing pizzas cooked fresh from small outlets, and the Italian version of tapas available in bars off the tourist track. Venice is fabulous in the winter, do go.

AMAZING. - wifi was great - room was comfy and nice

    « A great find - very good »

Stayed 2 nights at the Montecarlo in early January 2016. Great location located right next to Piazza St Marco surrounded by a variety of decent shops, boutiques, restaurants and a supermarket not too far. I recommend taking a vaporetto (E7.50) to St Marco from the Train Station. Otherwise 45 minutes by foot. (if you don't get lost). The Hotel's own restaurant looks quite decent. Arrived at 1pm and had to wait a little for the room. The Front of House staff were very professional. There isn't that much space in the small lobby to sit, but the adjacent restaurant had comfortable seating which we used. The Christmas decorations were lovely. 1 lift which fits 3 people max but stairs easy to use. We were in the room by 2pm. Requested a twin - which was 2 regular single beds together. Not much room to separate them but it was ok. The room was a decent size (for Venice) on the top floor (4) with roof top views of Piazza St Marco. Small windows but the room felt well lit by natural light. There was a large cupboard, small writing desk and an armchair. Baroque furniture throughout and beautiful satin wallpaper. Plush carpet. Decent sheets / pillows. Felt like Venice! Very cozy indeed. Bathroom was superb and clearly newly renovated with light brown marble tiles and excellent lighting. 5 star. Walk in shower with large showerhead. Decent Best Western toiletries. Nice towels. Well lit. I hope they renovate the remaining bathrooms to the same standard. Breakfast in the restaurant. Very decent. Great selection of breads / croissant (high quality) / cereals / jams / salad items (including baby mozzarella) / juices + sparkling wine / fruit / yogurts and an excellent coffee machines. The hot selection was also good with scrambled eggs / bacon / grilled sausages / toast with condiments (no mustard though). The restaurant was beautifully decorated and the cutlery / china good quality. Service was good. Very busy from 9pm onwards so get in early so you don't have to wait. Overall, given the room and breakfast, I'd say this is a 4 star hotel which I'd highly recommend and re-visit. Beware that not all the bathrooms are as impressive as ours was, but hopefully this is something the hotel is looking to rectify soon. Good wifi

    « Great stay »

Great location!! It's just a few blocks away from St Mark's Square. 5-7 mins to water bus stops. Lots of shops and restaurants in the area. Even on Christmas day, many restaurants and stores were open. Able to walk to everywhere within 20 mins, and that's including the time you got lost in the area. Even with GPS, Maps, you would still get lost; but it was a lot of fun getting lost!!! On this trip we went to Venice, Florence and Rome and I have to say, I enjoy Venice the most. Back to the hotel itself - very tiny but very clean. We have a triple room. The double bed was two twin beds combined, which was ok. The third bed was a sofa bed which was really uncomfortable. But other than that, the room was very clean; everything was well kept. Breakfast was very good; so much better than the free continental breakfast serve in the States. They even had a few bottles of Champagnes there for self served. Staffs are very friendly. It's a small hotel and the staffs seems to remember every guests. A great stay overall!

« Good value for money considering location »

Easy to find. Through the the arch in San Marco, first right and second left and there you are. Our room was a bit smelly but then this is Venice! Beds were OK, nothing special but not uncomfortable either. Bathroom was Ok but we had trouble with the in bath shower screen. The bath was pretty old and probably needs a refresh. Breakfast was OK but the hot food was a bit sparse and the bacon sporadic! Staff all very polite and helpful. Given the price we paid in winter and the location we couldn't expect more. I'm not sure I'd feel the same way had we paid summer prices. If we were to return to Venice I'm not sure I'd stay here again. Probably try something a little further away from San Marco.

    « VENICE 2015 »

recently stayed at Best Western Motecarlo for four nights on a bed and breakfast basis, its just two minutes from St Marks square, fantastic location, really clean, great food, very friendly staff, very comfy beds, no bad points at all, free wifi throughout, satelite tv

« Good and friendly service but room too expensive for what you get »

We booked the room though booking.com with a discount which made the stay all in all a good deal. However, if I had to pay the full price, the room would have clearly been too expensive. Even though the room as such was cosy and clean, it was very small and had a smell of humidity. The bathroom was very decent as was the bed and the breakfast. So for a one night stay, I would recommend the hotel but not for longer.

    « Great Surprise »

Decided to take a quick trip down to Venice so I needed a hotel fast. After some quick searching I chose the Best Western Montecarlo because of the price. What a great decision. The location was perfect! The hotel staff was friendly and very helpful. The hotel was clean and looked new.

« Perfect location, stunning hotel »

Quite literally a minute's walk from St Mark's Square, this hotel is surrounded by delightful little bars, restaurants and shops in the most perfect location. Rooms are large by Venice standards and the beds are super-comfortable. It's almost disappointing that there's too much to do to waste any time relaxing in the room. The breakfast was amazing with the usual fare, hot and cold, with attentive helpful staff if you need anything extra. The icing on the cake was the sparkling wine to have an indulgent mimosa with breakfast every morning which made our stay extra special. Top tip - even in winter protect yourself against mosquitos in Venice!!!

Love the location of the place though its in a really small lane in san marco The actual room is not as shown in the pictures or promised...rooms are really cramped...u can make peace with that but the washroom is really for dwarfs... One cant sit on the pot properly unless they are 5 ft It really needs ergonomics Plus there is no charging point in the room!!! Beat that...really disappointed

    « Perfect Location »

As this was my 3rd stay in Venice and can say that this was the best hotel, the staff were amazing and nothing was too much trouble. I stayed in a twin room on the 3rd floor....beautiful clean room. The only draw back was that there was no tea/coffee making facilities, not a problem but it would have been nice. I have no problems in recommending this hotel to anyone and would stay here again for certain.

« Very good hotel in the heart of Venice »

The hotel is the perfect location to start touring each day, whether you want to stay in St. Mark's square, venture to another island, or walk the streets into the other districts, just to tour or shop. Convenient to all the taxis also.

Fabulous time with this hotel. Stayed for 12 days in an excellent hotel near St. Marco and enjoyed this one better. Will come back as everything went perfect. Location, room and service perfect. Thank you very much and Ciao.

« Very nice and ideal location. »

The hotel is right near San Marco square, and there is plenty to do on just on the doorstep. The rooms are not very big, but I think this is a Venice thing due to space, but the rooms and the hotel are very quant and beautiful. The staff are very friendly and helpful, I wouldn't hesitate to book again.

« Lovely, small hotel, amazing location. »

Stayed here for two nights with a friend after noticing this hotels location on a previous visit to Venice. The hotel is an easy ten minute walk from the vaporetto stop at San Marco, easy to find and no bridges to lug cases over. Warm welcome from reception and then we were shown to our rooms, travelled with a friend and so we had booked two single rooms. At first glance the room seemed tiny but when I looked around I realised just how charming it was. The bed was a double, (very comfortable and immaculately made with nice bed linen and four good pillows) all the furniture was in a traditional Venetian style, high ceilings, a beautiful glass light fitting and a tall shuttered window added to the charm. Plenty of hanging/shelf space for clothes. Minibar and safe were handy as was the alarm clock - a rare find in a hotel room. Room info stated that free tea/coffee making facilities could be provided by asking reception but we didn't try this as didn't spend much time in the room. We visited in November, weather was mild for the time of year but the room was perfect temp for me, heating didn't appear to be on but wasn't needed, window opened if you needed to let air in as well. The tv was on the wall opposite the bed but I didn't even switch it on - why would you with all the glories of Venice outside the door? The bathroom was modern, clean and well equipped, shower wasn't overly powerful but the hot water was plentiful. Lots of big towels and a fair selection of toiletries on offer. There was a hairdryer in the bathroom but not very powerful, it did the job but if that's important then maybe bring your own. I managed with the one provided and nobody screamed in horror when they saw me so I guess it was adequate. My room was opposite the lift but I heard no noise, the window overlooked the street, but again, no noise from there either. If I had to find fault with the room I'd have to say the carpet was a little tired but didn't look dirty, just a few too many suitcases dragged over it I think. The floor was a little uneven but not surprising given the age of the building (or maybe it was more to do with the glass, or seven, of Prosecco that I tried??) Breakfast was ok, usual stuff - cereal, scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, rolls, pancakes, croissants, pastries, fruit, yogurt, cake, cold meat and cheese. All of a good standard and replenished frequently, cheerful staff and no waiting for a table. Best of all was the fab coffee. The hotel is in a great location, plenty of shops and restaurants around, we found the local food prices to be very reasonable with food and service to a high standard. Although if you choose to eat and drink in St Marks Square itself you will pay a hefty premium for the privilege! As two girls travelling we had no problems with walking around this area at night and didn't feel uncomfortable at any time. As a photography fan I was out before dawn alone with my camera, hardly a soul around but it didn't worry me as it might in other cities. So to sum up - if you are looking for a warm, friendly, small, reasonably priced, comfortable hotel in a great location for seeing the best of Venice then you won't go far wrong with this one. I'd stay here again without hesitation.

« Great Location, Wonderful City »

I stayed at the Montecarlo in September 2015 with my 78 yrs old mother and it couldn't have been more perfect. She has longed to see Venice for most of her life and the Hotel just added to her experience. It is in a great location, just a few minutes from San Marco square so there are no bridges to negotiate with luggage when you get off the ferry from the airport (under the clock - first right then 2nd left down a narrow lane). The room was styled with Venetian charm, clean and tidy, very comfy twin beds with plenty of pillows, good bath room and shower. We asked for and were provided with tea and coffee making facilities. A plentiful breakfast with something for everyone set us up for the day. All the staff were lovely and helpful and our fellow guests were a pleasure. It was lovely to chat to people from around the world who were so in awe of the City. I would most definitely stay here again and have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone. It worked out at about 270 Euros a night for the pair of us including breakfast (city tax extra) and was worth every penny.. sorry cent !

    « Would return »

Really nice room with such a comfy bed, it got cleaned every day and soaps and shampoo always restocked, kettle, teas and coffees in room for you to make when and if you wish to, shower was lovely, good pressure and easy to get the perfect temperature, breakfast has a massive choice and had some lovely orange juice, only downside is the tax to pay when you leave, which we only knew about due to looking through reviews before we came here, we were charged €3.50 per person per day spent there, which wasn't really an issue, although would've liked to have been informed about it before we went just in case we hadn't looked at reviews and had spent all our euros. Staff all very friendly. Be warned that in some local restaurants the prices won't always be displayed so ask before you buy, and some have a service tax for the overall bill that gets added on at the end. Chances are that if your restaurant (some not all) is in a highly touristy area the food will be both costly and bland Lovely hotel, would definitely return

    « A gem of a hotel »

After getting to hotel after a long walk from the bus station we were greeted by the most friendly staff. Our room wasn't quite ready so we were offered coffee and biscuits while we waited which was only a short time. The room was pleasant and warm with everything you could need for a short stay. Breasfast was great, lots of choice and no need to be up to early to get it. The location of the hotel was superb, just a couple of minutes walk from St marks square and about 10 minutes from the Rialto bridge with lots of restaurants and shops in between.. i just want to mention how fantastic the staff were whilst we were there. I had an accident helping a lady out of a canal and needed hospital treatment. The owner arranged for a couple of his staff to take us there after waiting half an hour for a water ambulance, (Thanks Mourad and Marco.) Then when we got back to the hotel the owners daughter Allesia went to the pharmacy to get the medication i had been prescribed which was fantastic. All the staff from the guys on the front desk to the waitresses at breakfast and maids who cleaned the rooms were so helpful and polite all the time we were there. Will definitely be going back and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

    « Superb hotel »

We arrived into Venice on 12 November 2015 and went as a group of four - my husband and I with two very close friends to celebrate a BIG birthday for my husband. Fantastic location (around 6-7 minutes from San Marco), the staff were wonderful, the rooms were lovely (when it was chilly outside it was lovely and toasty inside!) the breakfast was fantastic (thank you for the Prosecco!) Rate was good - all in all - a great, non-trendy, place that is thoroughly recommended.

« Great location, small rooms, musty »

Location is fantastic, just 3 minutes walk from St Mark's Square; rooms are quite small, low ceiling, uneven floors. Food / restaurant area good, but often crowded. Very friendly service - very helfpul

« Best Place in Venice for price »

Helpful, friendly staff. Great breakfast. Best part was that it was so close to St. Marks and I could stop in during day to get a coat, rest or use bathroom. No bridges to climb to get to this hotel! Several good restaurants within short distance, as well as shopping and convenience store.

Old world feel, specifically the room and bathroom. But up to date experience. Staff very attentive. Breakfast was superior and beyond expectations. Location of hotel was excellent, walking distance to everything and no noisy crowds.

« Excellent hotel and location »

This is the best Best Western at which we've ever stayed. Despite the fact that it took some wandering to actually find it. Our misfortune was to arrive in the rain at a high tide. The hotel, however, was lovely, comfortable, excellent bed, delicious included breakfast and accommodating staff. It was walking distance to St. Marc's Square and the boat dock. We would definitely stay here again.

« Anniversary long weekend in Venice »

The hotel was in a fantastic location and this was the main selling point for us when booking. The room was clean and nicely designed and of good proportion. The breakfast was ample and as expected - a very good way to start a full day touring the island. The front desk staff were Polite and very friendly. If we were to return to Venice we would stay at this hotel again and would not consider anywhere else purely because of its location.

    « Nice location and accommordations ... »

The location is great albeit a bit hard to find at first. Our room, while small, was nicely decorated and clean. We weren't in it for any length of time so the size didn't matter. The breakfast was nice every day and has some gluten free options for those that need it. All of our hotels in Italy did! The staff was always very nice and gave us good directions and advice when we asked. However, I would like to point out that when we asked about getting to Murano and Burano, they offered a "free" boat ride over to see the glass factory. While the boat ride was nice, we discovered that it was to one glass factory and the terms to get us back changed when we only purchased one small item. We are guessing they get some kind of kickback from that one factory. In hindsight, we probably wouldn't have taken that boat and went on our own so we could control our day and where we went a bit better. With that said, this hotel is very nice and we would stay again!

    « A week in Venice »

25 Oct to 1 Nov, great location, very comfortable, excellent staff in all areas, good value and you get predictable quality with Best Western. Breakfast was great start to the day ( they even had champagne on offer), Wifi actually worked very well, clearly well patronised by a wide range of tourists. Definitely reccomended.

    « Celiac-friendly breakfast in a great location »

The room had the highest ceilings of any I've slept in, great insulated windows (warm and quiet), the shower was spacious, strong and hot, the location perfect - steps from San Marco vaporetto stop and the shoreline (ideal for morning runs) and, best of all, a great breakfast spread including this gluten-free bread basket! A win on all fronts. Highly recommended.

« Hard to find, but worth it ! »

Don't be fooled by the small lobby and unassuming frontage, this is a very nice hotel in a great location. Including free wifi and breakfast, the hotel which is positioned between Rialto and St Marks Square is clean, quiet and boasts good views from the higher up rooms. The bathroom is well equipped, the TV a decent size and the furniture is in keeping with the ambience of the hotel.

    « Pretty good »

Excellent location, central but quiet at the same time. Rooms are comfortable and clean, staff is friendly, and the breakfast is very good! The ceilings are a bit low (wasn't a problem for us since we're both not so big, but might be for some), I imagine that is not very uncommon in Venice. We got told off on our last evening for not leaving the key with the hotel staff when we leave sightseeing for the day (oops, has been a while since I stayed in somewhere with an actual key so we totally forgot that's how it's done, though no one actually mentioned this during check in. Not a big deal) All in all, would definitely recommend this place.

    « Fabulous location! »

Great central location only a stroll from St Marks square. We had a room with a fabulous rooftop view looking down on the narrow street from the quaint shuttered windows. The staff were extremely friendly, polite and very helpful. The room was clean with traditional Venetian decor, breakfast had something for everyone. We all had a fabulous stay. I would definitely stay there again.

    « Location, Location, Location »

This is a clean, well-run, and centrally located hotel that gave us everything we were looking for in a 4 day stay. The location, just off Piazza St Marco, and a short walk to the water bus/taxis, meant that we could casually roll our bags while others struggled up and down the many bridges that zig zag across Venice. The buffet breakfast is filling, with enough variety to satisfy most diners. And the nice thing about Venice is that you are never more than a couple of minutes away from a restaurant or coffee shop. We will definitely be back.

    « Ideal Venice location »

This is a cracking hotel, just 50 or 60 meters from St Marks Piazza, making it easy to find when you first arrive and, usefully, easy to find after you have been exploring the streets and canal. The room was small but very comfortable, there was no view from the window, just roofs and boarded windows but, hey, this is Venice. The bathroom was very well equiped and kept scrupulously clean. Breakfast was varied and tasteful with both cooked and continental tates cared for and the staff were both helpful and courteous. We were surprised by an offer of a free trip to Murano with a visit to a glass blowing furnace overseen by a guide, who himself was a bit of a character. My only small complaint was that we were not informed of the 'Venice Tax' until we were due to leave and that this was required to be pain in cash, as it is our practice to spend most if not all of our euros this could have been a problem as there was no time to exhange our currency before we had to leave, in the end we negotiated a payment using a credit card but they were not happy! Forewarning of the Tax would have resolved this situation. But this is Venice a MUST SEE location which I am sure I do not have to describe. Overall my wife and I had a wnderful time in this magical City.

    « Awsome hotel »

Beautiful hotel. Rooms will remind you of history and cultures of venice. Location is awsome its a 5 - 6min walk to the St. Marcos. There is entire market placed around with best of brands. Entire place you can walk around in an hour. Small advice while the water taxis charge about 70euros for drops and pick up if you book through hotel you might pay very high. Entire distances are comfortable for walking, you might not want to opt for porter.

    « Wonderful Location »

The hotel is a short walk from where the water tax/water bus drops you off at the St Marks Square docks. We loved our room, which provided a view from our room of local places when we opened the shutters. Breakfast was included. At night, orchestras played in St Marks Square, with soft lights all around. It was magical! Lots of shops and St Marks Basilica, the canals with gondolas, and the Bridge of Sighs. You can walk to everything near the square, or plan to stay longer and see more of Venice. (We were on a whirlwind trip, and only stayed there one day.)

« A little tight, but perfectly placed. »

We were excited when we booked this place. It looked like it was really close to the Piazza San Marco. Sure enough, it is. Be aware, however, that it's on a tiny side street off of the back side of Saint Mark's Basilica. Once you find it, you'll realize how remarkable the location actually is. We really liked this hotel. By American standards, this room felt small - there was not an ounce of extra space. That said, we feel you should only be resting and sleeping in your hotel in a city like Venice, so it more than suited our needs. Just know that you should not flush the toilet while someone else is sleeping. You will surely wake your partner. Its location made the hotel very quiet, and the shutters and blackout curtains sealed out light sources for good sleeping. The modern bathrooms are actually beautiful (I think). This hotel has a free breakfast that was more impressive and substantial than our hotel in Rome. They offered several choices of breads (sweets included), juices, cereals, warm and cold meats and pastries. I think they have me hooked on espresso now. The front desk staff was very helpful and understood English very well. One serious security consideration. They ask for the key whenever you leave the hotel. The staff said they did this so they could know when you were out. To get the key when you return, all you have to do is state your room number; there is no ID check. I see this as a risky security flaw. That said, we returned home with all of our valuables, and our room had a decent-sized safe. You should be able to secure most of your truly valuable items. There was also no "Do Not Disturb" sign that we could use to prevent housekeeping from coming in (we usually do this just for added privacy/security). Because of this, housekeeping came twice a day, every day. They were great and only came when we were out. If you like it, they are fantastic, it is just usually not our personal preference. In our room, the wi-fi was excellent. It was so good, I could almost stream video. I do not know if this was a function of our location, but the good wifi signal seemed to extend into the lobby and the breakfast area. Overall, if simply for the perfect location, I would book this hotel. Just use the safe. :)

    « A wonderful hotel »

As a travel professional, I book many hotels in Italy for clients. I was very pleased with the staff and service at the Montecarlo. Marco and the others went out of their way to assist us with restaurant recommendations. The rooms are very nice and quiet and the bathrooms above average in size.

« Hotel find near San Marco square »

Reliably comfortable hotel steps from piazza San Marco, quiet rooms and reasonable prices for the location. Good breakfast and very helpful staff. This was my third stay here, would come back again. Small, lovely little bar/lounge with helpful staff. A real pleasure to stay here.

« Excellent hotel within walking distance of all sights »

This hotel is ideal if you want to be within walking distance of all the sites. The room was of a very good quality with really good bathroom. The breakfast was of a very good quality. The staff throughout the hotel were excellent. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. Venice as a whole lived up to expectations. We visited the Basilica San Marco and the Campanile later in the afternoon and only had to queue for a short while. We visited Doge's palace first thing in the morning and did not queue at all.

« Excellent hotel. First class location »

Checking in was fast and efficient with assistance to the room if you wished. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff at every step. Very clean. Newly refurbished rooms on 4th floor and nicely furnished in old French style. Super bathroom with extra-large walk-in shower. This hotel is just off the Square, but not noisy and no compromise in service or quality. Really good breakfast, including hot food and unlimited buffet available up to 10 am. Complimentary toiletries were replenished daily and it was nice to have a tea tray, if you wanted. Free wall safe in room and free wi-fi. We had time to walk outside of the Square and across the Ponte Accademie to Dorsoduro and enjoyed some of the Art Expo exhibitions as well as visiting the popular attractions of Venice. We chose to skip the gondola ride - to be honest, it looked a bit of a rip-off. However, we had an early flight home and saved our cash for the water taxi home - booked for by the hotel and the bellboy carried our cases and took us to the taxi - this did cost 120Euros, but we thought it was worth it to avoid the 80 minute waterbus ride, and the taxi driver took us through the back canals (a bit of real Venice) before hitting the main water lanes. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again and would recommend to friends.

    « Hotel in Venice »

I was a little hesitant about booking my hotel stay at Best Western, but I could not have been more pleased! This hotel is in located in the heart of Venice and is walking distance to everything - St.Marco's Square, Rialto Bridge and Market, Doges Palace, Bridge of Sighs, Correr Musuem, Ca'Pesaro, and more! The rooms by European Standards, are spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet had a ton of options (coffee any way you like, champagne, pastries, cereal, eggs, charcuterie, fruit) and was much to our surprise included at no charge! They also had free wifi (as do most restaurants/musuems you just have to ask for the password). The staff of the hotel was also incredibly friendly! I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a middle of road hotel in a great location. Be sure to visit the restaurant Rosso Pomodoro around the corner for some awesome Pizza and a Spritz!

    « Great find »

Montecarlo hotel was a great find. The staff were friendly. The room comfortable. Great amenities - shampoo & conditioner body lotion, shoe shine and it came with a turn down service free of charge. Finally in Italy after a month of traveling we had a clock, which sounds silly, but with having to get up early to catch a ferry it was nice to look from bed and see the time without having to open the phone and wake my husband with the emanating light. The hotel is in a great location. So close to San Marco, but without the crowds around it. The only downside to the room was that there wasn't enough electrical sockets for phones etc. We had to unplug a lamp to access one. The upside was that bathroom floors were warm. We also took the boat ride to Murano and we bought a little something, but we were also dropped off at the other side of the island. This was fun though, as we explored a new area of the city. We really enjoyed our time here and would thoroughly recommend staying here.
