    « U of A stay »

We stayed at this hotel through Booking.com. Reviews were great and did not lead us astray. The hotel is in a great location to the campus. The room was clean and comfortable. It was a great value for the night.

« Friendly staff, free breakfast! »

We visited Tucson for the Tucson Comedy Arts Festival, which I performed at. The staff was very friendly and helpful in helping us find the location of the festival venue. We had a free full breakfast; not just a continental breakfast, but an actual breakfast! The free wi-fi worked better than I've experienced at other hotels.

    « Third excellent experience »

It is certainly the best place to stay in Tucson. Walking distance to the University but not too close in order to feel like in vacations after working hours. Quality/Price ratio is absolutely exceptional. Very nice people wherever you need them. Bedroom very clean. Swimming pool appealing. Lounge bar with a nice and peaceful ambiance. Very good Manhattan cocktail (Margarita not so good).

    5
    « Good Food »

Not only is this a comfortable clean motel to stay at, but the food in the restaurant is outstanding as well as a good value. Don't let the older appearance fool you, the rooms have been updated. The location is also very convenient to other parts of Tucson. It also has good proximity to the freeway.

    4
    « Good Value »

This is well kept older motel with large clean rooms and in a central location. They include a breakfast in the morning in the restaurant and 2:1 drink coupons for the lounge. Food in the restaurant is good. We would definitely stay again if in Tucson!

    « Great Tucson Visit »

We had a family vacation to Tucson and were so pleasantly surprised as to how much fun we had. The BEST WESTERN Royal Sun Inn & Suites where we stayed was fabulous! The hotel is very clean with nice comfortable beds. We stayed in a junior suite which was perfect for us. Once in our room, the front desk called to make sure we were happy with our accommodations. The hotel arranges for a complimentary breakfast at the restaurant that is next door to the hotel. The restaurant staff treated us great even though they knew our meal was complimentary. We traveled to Tombstone which is the best kept secret. The town is so cute in that it is like a real step back into our western past. Our family definitely wants to go back to Tombstone and also explore more of Tucson.

« Friendly staff and great breakfast! »

The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our suite was very comfortable and relaxing. The free breakfast was served in the restaurant on the hotel property. They had a variety of breakfast selections to choose from. Great service and very filling breakfast!

    « A rad stay?? »

We arrived late Monday night with an 8 year old a 14 year old a very tired baby. I don't know if it was the exhaustion in our faces from a 6hour car ride but Amy at the front desk made us feel welcome immediately and even upgraded our room. It was such a pleasant surprise and deeply deeply appreciated. The lobby had cookies and the grounds look pretty much like a regular hotel motel except for the fact that it is decorated with hundred years old throughout the property. In general the reality is it's probably a four star property and pretty regular but our experience experience was so great from the customer service there I gave it five stars. Our room was an actual suite with a door that closed off and even a Jacuzzi tub. Not one of those half wall things. The sofa bed folded out in the king suite and there was plenty of room for our two daughters to share the sofa bed. They gave us two for one drink discount tickets for their cocktail lounge which had a live band playing. Everybody was nice there but it was nothing fancy. The next morning we had an awesome breakfast for free that was an actual breakfast. For each of us such a great value! Mary Lou was our waitress and she was the bomb.com. My kids even asked if people are just nicer in Arizona.

    « Excellent customer service »

Check in was seamless. An employee called when we got to our room to make sure it was up to our expectations. An employee delivered a DVD player and set it up for us. The waiter at the restaurant was very courteous. A call in the middle of the night to the front office was answered immediately and prompt action was taken. Checkout was seamless. The hot tub was large and the jets were very strong. The mattress was firm and comfortable. The room was clean.

« A Best Western with a bar and restaurant! »

I had a great stay at this hotel. Especially pleased with the on-site bar and restaurant. After a long day of travel, I really like to be able to unwind with a drink and that's usually not really an option without having to drive somewhere. The room was comfortable. Only downside was construction on the street at the hotel entrance but not a big issue.

    « Visit U of A student »

Perfect location to get around the University campus and close to dorms and student apartments. The room was perfect size for us for our purpose for our visit. We will be returning throughout the next two years!

    5
« Quality at low price »

I stay at this hotel whenever I come to Tucson as it is the best value in town. This hotel for the price has the best rooms and hotel amenities that you would not get anywhere else for double the price.

    « Nice stay »

We stayed one night. Would have enjoyed longer. We chose this location because we needed a dog friendly hotel and have had great experiences at other Bws. It seemed the hotel was quite full, but the room we had was very quiet. Room was beautiful and comfortable. Property was nicely landscaped and maintained. The balconies with chairs were at your front door on the walkways and were surprisingly pleasant. We did not get to enjoy the pool or check out the lounge, or much else, but seemed popular. Breakfast vouchers are included which gives you a choice off most of their diners breakfast menu. Diner/restaurant was very nice, fresh atmosphere, good food and friendly service. Table next to us said their dinner there was great. Front desk staff was also very professional and accommodating. (Thank you). Also loved the scent of the bath products...hey, its also the little things. Location is a short and easy drive to downtown and the major highways Note...do not let the road construction in front deter you. It was not an issue at all...it may have made it easier to get in and out, actually.

« Bob and Sandra from uk. 10th October for three nights »

First time in a best western. Room clean, bed comfortable. Air con rather noisy but you do get used to it. Breakfast the same every day but the young man that was on duty whilst we where there was lovely. We also had two complimentary drinks. Not much around for us but as this was the start of our three week vacation we were quiet happy with this

    2
    « Really Loud! »

So, I was curious why there were earplugs left in the bathroom. Well, let me tell you. This is by far the loudest hotel I have ever visited. You could hear everything! People next door, people outside, not to mention the train. For almost $200/night I would like to be able to sleep. I don't understand the positive reviews..there are far better places in Tucson. I booked this room because it was close to 4th street and I would rather get a room than drive after a night out. I think I should have taken my chances, lol.

« Great restaurant at Royal Sun »

We just completed an 8-day stay at the BW Royal Sun. This property is conveniently located just off the freeway and close to U of A, downtown, and other Tucson destinations. It's a reasonably-priced lodging with clean, comfortable rooms and a friendly, helpful staff. The unexpected bonus was the on-site restaurant. Instead of the usual Best Western breakfast buffet, the Royal Sun offers a cooked-to-order menu of 10 items, including eggs, pancakes, waffles, and cereals. We also ate dinner here twice and were not disappointed. The dinner menu included salads, burgers, and full dinner entrees, One night I had a burger with pepper jack cheese, guacamole, jalapeños, Another night was grilled fish with a lemony sauce, rice pilaf, and Brussels sprouts with bacon. The wait staff and kitchen staff are friendly and efficient. We were pleasantly surprised to have such a good dining option where we were staying.

    4
    « Pleasant Stay »

It was a lovely room, clean, newly renovated and modern. It was a bit small and the furniture felt a little crammed into the room, but it was quiet and well-maintained. The only drawback was that there was no elevator and the balcony tilted toward the edge, which felt a little dangerous.

    3
« Pleasant but not outstanding »

Stayed 2 nights recently. Basic dated but clean motel room, friendly staff, freshly cooked breakfast with real eggs. Too far from the centre of town to walk but convenient to get in and out. Biggest issue was the train noise - we were woken several times each night by repeated hooting of freight trains.

    3
    « Overnight »

Was a decent price for a decent room. Would use again on next visit to Austin, easy access from highway, not far from the venue I was attending, and friendly staff. We were satisfied with the room accommodations.

« Great visit to see my son in school...hotel was a GREAT FIND »

I stayed last year at the hotel and I very much enjoyed it..this year I went back and found that the rooms were re-done and breakfast was included! And not a DRY breakfast but I full breakfast! everyone couldn't be nicer from the front desk all the way to the waiter and waitress at the restaurant. Only thing that was a issue was that our room was next to the ICE machine and it was used through the night. It should be moved to a area that isn't near guest rooms

    « A great choice »

We arrived here for a three night stay way earlier than the check in time & we were told that as the room was ready we could avail of it, the lovely man at reception gave us great information on places to visit . This is a really lovely motel, spotless, very comfortable & tastefully decorated. Good location, nice swimming pool & we loved the great breakfast.

    4
    « Best Breakfast »

Great Hotel for the money, nice surround feeling, clean hotel, newly updated, Fantastic breakfast and updated diner. That's right you are entitled to a sit down breakfast to order included in the hotel cost. The bed are not the most comfortable and the noise with the train is not expectable at odd early morning hours. Now I know why there is ear plugs in the bathroom. But over all this is a very nice hotel for the money and very clean.

    5
    « ALWAYS OUTSTANDING »

The service level of the front desk staff is always excellent. We always stay here when in Tucson because of its location and also the room layout. It suits our needs perfectly. The complimentary breakfast in the newly upgraded restaurant is much more than the offerings you find in lesser hotels. Check-in and Check-out are always smooth and hassle-free thanks to the staff.

    « Roach Problem »

Upon arrival I thought this would be a good place to stay.Close to the University, had attached Restaurant and Bar. After driving 7hours that was great, food OK and Bar had Karaoke, was great entertainment. Next day went to several excursion got home late. Next morning poured coffee , added cream and saw a roach swimming. Told person at desk, they said they would spray, that night we killed several in sink , next day gone. The manager did give me 1 day credit which does not make up for that experience. I hope they get professional pest control ASAP.

    « Our getaway »

We love to stay at the Best Western Royal Sun. The rooms are great and the suites are very spacious. It is also in a great location and it is nice to be able to walk downtown. The rattlesnake bridge is close and very fun to visit. The Gaslight Theatre was also great!

    5
    « Awesome Best Western »

This Best Western was absolutely perfect. We needed a place to stay that would allow pets since we were traveling to our final destination of San Tan Valley - our new home - and this place was just wonderful. Didn't have to pay extra for my pets, the suite was awesome and made my family and I feel as though we were still home. I would definitely recommend this location to anyone.

    4
« Surprising Upgrades, comfortable stay »

The outside of this Best Western is deceiving. It's in an older part of Central Tucson located about 2 miles directly east of Interstate 10. It is easy access in and out (unless they are fixing the road), but still not a problem. The rooms have been totally remodeled and are clean and quiet. It is an older hotel, but they have done an amazing job. The pictures on the official site for this hotel are accurate. The price was reasonable and breakfast was included and it just wasn't a cup of coffee and a bowl of cold cereal. It was a full breakfast menu with servers and amenities. They accept small dogs and our pet room did not smell doggie as some rooms do. Our room did not have a tub, it had a walk-in shower and the water was hot and plentiful. You might ask for a room that is NOT in a corner as it was dark even with the curtains open. All rooms face the outside and it is 2 stories. There are coffee machines in the room along with a hair dryer, and refrigerator. The staff was extremely friendly. There is a small exercise room and an adequate outside pool. The downtown area for the University of Arizona is just under a mile away. Lots of trendy shops and restaurants, if you can find a parking spot.

    « Perfect Location »

My girlfriend and I stayed for the weekend to go to a concert. The location was great walking distance to 4th Ave and Downtown. Clean rooms, great bar, reliable WiFi and helpful staff. Highly recommended

« Royal Sun Inn & Suites is Awesome »

Royal Sun Inn & Suites in Tucson is a very good place to stay. Staff was very helpful and courteous. The rooms were very clean and well organized. Made you feel like you were home. The food at the restaurant/bar was very good and the overall ambiance was excellent. I would definitely stay here on any of my future visits to Tucson.

    « Excellent Best Western »

My wife and I took a one night retreat from the kid's and stayed at this Best Western. As a Diamond level rewards member I decided to use some of my points to cover our stay. I selected a standard King bed room but was pleasantly surprised to find they had upgraded us to a suite. SWEET!!! Since I had used points they didn't have to upgrade our room but they did it anyway. The room was FANTASTIC!!! The staff were very friendly and wonderful to deal with. We enjoyed the room so much that we missed breakfast the next day. So I can't really give an opinion on that. But if it was anything like the rest of our experience I'm sure it's just as GREAT!!! I travel a lot for business and always stay at a Best Western if there is one nearby. This one ranks near the top for room quality, staff interactions, and overall quality for cost. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

« Best of the Best in the West! »

The Best Western Royal Sun in Tucson is the finest Best Western hotel I've stayed in: clean rooms, a heated swimming pool and spa, exceptionally caring staff, great central location, a terrific restaurant offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and a nice bar-lounge onsite for late night drinks. Stay here, you won't be disappointed!

    « Business, Dr appts »

Clean, staff very helpful and knowledgeable, polite and friendly. Had doctor appointments and day surgery, This motel is convenient and close to university and not too far from the VA clinic. Will stay there again when other appointments arise.

    « Traveling teacher »

Royal Sun is our to go place to stay when we visit our youngest son who lives and teaches in Tucson. The property is close to our son's apartment and has all we need, pool, restaurant, work out room. Vanessa was our check in person and she took the time to switch our assigned room to the one I had requested when I made reservations. It was a busy Saturday afternoon, she changed my room, answered phones and checked in guests, never loosing her cool in spite of being the only one at the desk. The restaurant is a hidden gem, we had the included breakfast there, nice choices and servers were absolutely charming and efficient. Dinner there was again very good, definitely value for the money, spinach salad and bourbon steak were very good. Again, the chef and waitress were awesome. To the waitress who kept apologizing for (really imaginary mistakes) because it was only her second shift in the restaurant, you were great.

« Taking grandson to College »

The best staff, best rate, best breakfast (full) close to the College & I cannot rave anymore about the staff, cleanliness, I love this hotel..I would stay no where else in Tucson...Safety plus, close to everything especially the U of A...Great pool, workout room...Cleaning staff excellent, I left tips....

    « Tucson stay »

We stayed at the Best Western Royal Sun and Suit om our last stay in Tucson. It was a very clean motel, with good maid service, nice pool and great breakfast. Check in and out was very easy and the service was great. I would recomend it for any traveling to Tucson.

« One of the best Best Western we had. »

Very nice staff. The hotel was clean. The staff at the restaurant was very good. The staff at the reception was very helpful with tips. We like to come back to this place. The location is very close to attractions.

« Monsoon season made it interesting getting here »

I got a deal on this hotel last minute on hotwire. I arrived during a monsoon rainstorm event and the streets surrounding it were completely flooded. Also, the TV was out (probably because of the storm as well). Check-in was a little less friendly than I'm used to, but I assume it was a stressful situation. I would take great care in choosing this hotel depending on the weather because of the potential for flooded streets. The parking lot was not flooded, and I applaud the hotel's commitment towards safety as there were many signs warning people about the dangers of slipping on the stairs. The room was very comfortable, and I liked that the shower had soap/shampoo in the shower instead of offering them in tiny plastic bottles which have a larger environmental impact. The complimentary breakfast in the morning was also very nice! It was nice to sit down at a restaurant and have the food cooked for me. The service was fast and very friendly, and the food was excellent. Overall a nice hotel, and a good value for the deal I got.

    4
    « Tucson Best Western »

Nice Hotel ,lots of construction and noise, and dirt. The rooms were nice, the staff was nice, it was a little over priced for the amites you get, it was nice to have a diner on site. I would go back if i had to take my son to the hospital near my again for tests over night.

    5
« Hits on all marks! »

This is a remodeled hotel and they paid attention to every detail! They had things I like: coffee maker, hair dryer, magnifying mirror for make up, make up remover towel, fridge, nice TV, shampoo & conditioner dispenser, updated and clean bathroom and bedroom with pleasing colors. I felt comfortable and safe on every level! Highly recommend for business or pleasure!

    3
    « Just OK »

We frequent Best Western hotels and this one was just ok. They offered earplugs, which was a bad sign. There is major road construction going on in front of the hotel, which I realize is out of their hands. Thin walls, we'll just leave it at that. Complimentary breakfast included.

  • 3
« I would stay there again, but... »

We were not dissatisfied to the point of not staying there again, but the noise from the next door neighbors and the plugged up shower and sink were not pleasant things to deal with. The vicinity to downtown is convenient but the location is in a low income area.

« Offering the best for Tucson visit »

Delightful stay at well-located site. Short distance from super Downtown Tucson. Great staff, good looking physical environment. Very comfortable accommodations. Super thanks for refrigerator in room. Good food and fun at adjoining restaurant. Excellent value for level of service and comfort. We even loved the bathroom (walk-in shower)!

    5
    « A Good Stop »

Checked-in on the 27th -- Was upgraded to a suite which was a nice addition. Been travelling on a family vacation so the extra space was nice. Thanks to that person for the upgrade. Rather than drive-out for evening dinner, we ventured to the hotel's diner. I think it was Nate... Really friendly and outgoing. The food also did not disappoint. I ordered a hamburger and it was one of the largest hamburgers I'd ever gotten in a restaurant. Overall, very pleased with the hotel and restaurant.

    5
« Easy access, great breakfast »

We were on our way from California to New Mexico and so stayed in Tucson only the one night. The staff was very helpful, providing us an accessible room, and letting us change to still another room without delay or difficulty. They provide a free breakfast at the restaurant on the property; the menu items were surprisingly great. So much better than other hotels' "express breakfast" bars. We will definitely choose this hotel again our next trip to NM!

    3
    « Very good price:quality but... »

We only had one negative point in room 201. There was a tremendous noise in the room the whole night even when the airco was cut. it was like we were next to an elevator , which was not the case. Check in and check out were fast and accurate and the front desk people were very nice and professional.. The room is very clean. The internet is fast. Parking is free. Not at walking distance to any other restaurant than the restaurant on the premises.

    5
    « Excellent Deset Oasis »

This hotel is my favorite hotel in Tucson. The newly updated facility is truly an oasis. The rooms are fancy, with seats on the porch. The whole complex is decorated with flowers, desert life, a pool, a restaurant, a lounge with HD TV's and a full service bar. You get drink coupons, a coupon for a full breakfast. The lounge has live music on Sunday evening when we were here. I understand there is a variety of karaoke and live music.

    5
« Pet friendly in Tucson »

On a 28 day road trip from Miami to California and back, this was one of our favorite hotels. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the grounds are well manicured with various kinds of cacti and other desert plants. The included breakfast was outstanding being served in the onsite restaurant which is reminiscent of a diner. You are handed a menu and you get to select your cooked to order breakfast. The pool area looked quite inviting although we were too busy sight seeing to ever use it. We also ordered a carry out dinner from the hotel restaurant (we travel with a dog) and the food was very good and the waitress very nice. The hotel is conveniently situated to the western unit of Saguaro National Park and Old Tucson (an old movie studio where John Wayne westerns were once shot). You may see in a number of reviews that reference the noise from the nearby railroad. While we did hear some train whistles, they did not bother us. We would definitely stay here again.

    5
« Great Value for Total Experience »

The facilities and room furnishings were excellent for Best Western. The location was perfect. The biggest surprise and treat was the dining room. It reminds me of a Denny's -- not fine dining at all. However, the menu at this restaurant was far more up-scale with a wide variety of items. Mine was prepared deliciously, The complimentary breakfast menu also was exceptional and prepared well.

    5
« Best place to stay in Tucson »

I love the Best Western Royal Sun because the rooms are very comfortable, they have the necessary amenities and then some. The breakfast included is real... you will know what I mean when you stay... The staff are very nice and always pleasant.

    4
    « Place to stay »

Best Western had great reviews so we took a chance. As we came around the corner the back side of the hotel is kind of scary, but as we pulled into the actual hotel it was nice. The rooms were great. We were on the first floor next to the pool. Our bathroom window opened up to the eye sore that was a trashy vacant lot we saw as we pulled up. Happy hour in the bar was good. We had the potato skins and the macaroni and cheese. Both were very good. Bartender was a very friendly guy. At night we went back to check out the karaoke. It was interesting. We enjoyed people watching. The next morning we had our free breakfast. One waitress was working the whole restaurant and doing an amazing job. The food was okay. Unfortunately they were out of waffles. We wanted to spend a few hours at the pool before check out. It was Sunday morning at 9:00. It was nice and quiet and relaxing. Suddenly we heard a car pull up and 3 kids ran into the pool area followed by what I assume was their mother. They carried a big bag of fast food into the pool area. Trash was blown all over the pool area. They must have been friends of the cleaning crew because most of them came out to see the new arrivals. I returned to the room. For the price you can't beat what we got. I was just disappointed to see non-hotel guests shorten what I wanted to be a nice few hours by the pool.

« Great room Great Price »

We stayed at this motel for 5 nights. The swimming pool was always warm , in February which makes it really nice . The food in the restaurant was very good, . I would return any time the staff is very friendly with clean rooms

    « Nicely Renovated Hotel »

Lovely hotel. If you're in the area, this is the place to stay. The room was nice and comfortable (although the beds were a bit firm.) It sits across the street from a park with play structure. The breakfast was excellent, let me repeat myself the breakfast was excellent and INCLUDED in the room fee. Pancakes, good coffee, and THICK bacon! This is the place to stay.

    5
    « Great Breakfast »

I always revert to Best Western when visiting a new city or not having pre-booked accommodation, you know what to expect. The Royal Sun Inn and Suites did not let us down, clean spacious rooms, good bed and pillows, great shower and towels are our benchmarks and were easily met. Breakfast really exceeded the usual Best Western offering, a real restaurant cooked breakfast. Given the central location, great breakfast and reasonable prices you will be hard pressed to find better.

    5
    « palm trees and well-maintained grounds »

homey and pleasant place....free hot breakfast...a real restaurant breakfast...friendly staff.....I always make this my stop-over in Tucson and highly recommend it....there are palm trees and other amenities on the well-cared-for grounds.

« "BEST" BEST WESTERN EVER! »

Reality has a hard time living up to my expectations, but that was NOT the case in this instance. The accommodations were spacious, comfortable, and (most of all) QUIET. The staff behaved as if they really, truly cared that we had an enjoyable stay. We WILL go to this hotel again!

    5
    « Simple 3 night stay »

I stayed here for 3 nights. The front desk staff and restaurant was friendly. Choice of items on the breakfast menu was good - a little something for everyone. My room was located on the first floor and included TV, DVD player, and mini fridge. Free WiFi was also included.I enjoyed my stay and the hotel was reasonably price for the location and amenities.

    5
« Great value, excellent service »

This is the second time i've stayed at this property. We had originally rented a house in Tucson, but due to a power outage had to leave the house suddenly. I had stayed here before and had a great experience, so i immediately called them and they were able to accommodate us on very short notice. The free breakfast is wonderful, they serve you quickly, the servers are all very pleasant, and they prepared my meal EXACTLY how I asked for it (bacon crispy, hash browns crispy, etc.). The suites are very nice, the regular bed is very comfortable (hence my score of 5 below). My only issue is with the sofa bed. My son has slept in that both times we've stayed there, two different rooms, and finds them to be extremely uncomfortable. He says he can feel the springs all night long. He is 5'11 and weighs 175 so he's not a huge person. I wish they would get better mattresses for those.

    3
    « Comfortable & Convenient »

Hotel staff is very helpful and nice. Breakfast is great. Hotel is convenient to freeway, downtown and University of Arizona. Seems to have been updated with new paint, bathrooms, and beds. Furniture is not comfortable and may be next in line for upgrade. Pool area was a bit dirty and seemed a bit green. Good for short stays. Rooms in back and upstairs are quieter.

« We slept and eat here for 3 nights »

What a choice!!!! good hotel good location and good food and good value for money and friendly and helpful staff. Our room 227 was clean and spacious with a comfortable bed, AC and fridge not noisy, very little train noise especially if you kept the bathroom door closed all the time. All the staff were very good and helpfull. The breakfast was excellent with good and friendly staff and we enjoyed our evening meal there as well each night, good choice and good value and voucher for 2 drinks for the price of 1

    « ?Adequate »

We had booked a room with a king-size bed on the ground floor. When we checked in such a room was not available so we had to decide between queen-size on the ground floor or king-size on the first floor. We opted for the queen-size, which normally is more expensive but we got it for the agreed-upon price. Room was older but OK, reasonably spacious with good beds. Good bathroom. You'll find earplugs in the room because there is a railroad very nearby. However, we didn't use the plugs and never heard a train. Our rate included coupons for breakfast. You have to pick from a 10-items menu. I had the ?Biscuits & Gravy? breakfast, my wife had the ?Royal Sun?. It was OK but I prefer a breakfast buffet where you can pick and choose. We would stay here again but would first look for an alternative.

    « A home among homeless »

Great hotel; however, the park across the street was full of sketchy people which made me feel safe. The complimentary breakfast at the restaurant should not be passed up. I would recommend this place to colleagues visiting the University of Arizona, since it is affordable and close to public transportation.

« One of the Best Best Western Hotels to stay »

This is one of the Best - Best Western Hotels we have stayed at. The rooms are very nice, clean and comfortable. Hotel has restaurant, bar/lounge, laundry, pool/spa. Hotel access if right off Interstate 10 very convenient location. We will return on next trip.

    3
    « an ok stay »

Nice - it is missing the typical motel/hotel look and more resortlike with a nice seating area with trees and greenery. Rooms are older and dark but clean. There is also a restaurant and a bar with live music. Breakfast is included and you get a voucher for the restaurant and can choose from a breakfart menu. Staff professional but not very friendly.

« Good place to stop for the night/short term. »

The outside of the hotel is unimpressive and a little run down, but our room was large, clean and comfortable. Proximity to the University would mean that it could be crowded, depending on the time of year. The ice machine was out of order, which didn't affect us, but probably did others. The free hot breakfast choices were limited, but the food was good, and we did have dinner in the restaurant, which was also good. The hotel and restaurant staff were friendly.

    « Older Property »

My daughter and I stayed at this Best Western for one night on our way to Sierra Vista, Az. I was a bit surprised when we arrived. I had read the reviews prior to booking and noticed this hotel was rated highly by Trip Advisor. However, this property is somewhat older. I was not impressed with the room. Pros: friendly and accommodating staff; great free breakfast; pool/hot tub well maintained; fitness room Cons: the rooms are accessible from the outdoors and the inside appears to be older; there were adjourning rooms; the carpet was somewhat older and dark and the laundry bag had been used and put back on the shelf.

« Very nice and clean! »

We were early to check in and they had our room ready and we were upgraded to a suite! Thank you! The entire place is kept clean and so are the rooms! As long as they have vacancy, I will continue staying here on every trip to Tucson. It is worth the stay!

« OK for the night. »

One night stay in this motel. Bit of a cold but to the point welcome. We had a room on the second floor of the first building. Basic accomodation, but clean. Fridge, fast wifi and flatscreen in the room. Plenty of parking. There is a bar and a restaurant on the site, both with friendly, welcoming staff. Breakfast is complementary, you have a choice between about ten combos. Upon arrival you receive a 2 for 1 coupon for the bar per person. Overall ok for one night.

    « Cockroaches, loud train »

Just left this place. It was disgusting. There was a cockroach about 2 inches long waiting for us in the sink when we arrived and more on the floor this morning. If we wouldn't have arrived so late last night I would have left. Also, I thought it was odd that there were ear plugs on the counter. Then really early in the morning (still dark out) I heard a loud train go by, which had its horn on the whole time it went by. This was followed by numerous police sirens and the train going by with its loud horn about every 30 minutes. I didn't get any sleep at all last night. If you sleep here, be ready to wear ear plugs, be awoken by a train all night and to share your room with cockroaches. This place was completely over priced considering I didn't get any sleep and there were cockroaches every where. The only positive thing I have to say is that breakfast was good and the waitress was very nice. I was extremely nervous about eating at the restaurant after seeing the cockroaches in the room.

« Great Service and complimentary breakfast »

We are on a seven-eight week cross country trip and stayed at many Best Westerns. This BW ranks in the top 3 for their customer service and complimentary breakfast. Their location was also convenient. This Best Western is highly recommended.

« Best hotel for your money along with the best breakfast included in room rate. »

We have stayed at this hotel many times over the past four years and have always found the rooms to be clean, comfortable and relaxing. The wait staff and front desk personnel are always friendly, pleasant and willing to make your visit a successful one.

« Second Visit, still Great »

We were here once before and we found everything to be just right. A wonderful room, a very nice pool which I took advantage of, and a terrific free breakfast with ten choices. The location is convenient to the downtown restaurants and the University of Arizona as well as being an easy on and off from the I-10 freeway. The only improvement would be a luggage cart since some rooms are not adjacent to parking. We will come here again the next time we are in Tucson.

    « Nice hotel »

I stayed here for one night with travelling through Tucson and it was everything I needed. Room was clean and comfortable and even though situated next to what seemed a busy road, I was never disturbed by the road noise and I am a very light sleeper. The restaurant which is linked to the hotel does some great food with VERY friendly servers. They have a set number of dishes available for breakfast which are cooked to order in the same restaurant. If you want anything different, these have to be paid for. There is also a bar located onsite but I didn't try this out. I would definately stay here again if travelling through the area.

    5
    « Convenient, clean, & friendly »

This hotel is very neat & clean. We liked the decor. All the staff that we encountered in the hotel & at the restaurant were very nice. The location was very convenient & easy to find for us as we visited the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum & Tucson Studios. We would stay there again.

    « Nice hotel »

This was a nice hotel with an easy check in. The rooms were fairly clean with comfy beds. The TV was really small, but there were good channels. At the restaurant the breakfast was delicious, but the service, although kind, was slow. Overall this was a hotel close to U of A, easy to access off the highway and we will stay here again.

« Great Hotel in a Great Location. »

I have stayed at the Royal Sun for over 100 nights since 2010. It is always a good experience. The location is convenient, and close to the U of A and the main part of town. The rooms are clean and well-decorated. I've never had a problem with noise. The onsite restaurant is outstanding. The food is great, and reasonably priced. Everything appears to be made from scratch. If you stay at this hotel, definitely try the restaurant.

« Best Western hotel in Tucson Arizona »

This is a ok hotel. Need some repair to its plumbing and you will hear a train run frequently through the town at night. hotel do provide ear plugs for your sleeping pleasure. Tucson Az is a college town. Not to much to do in town. About 1 hour you can drive to Tombstone where the great shot out happen There is a wonder Antique shop in town, opens at 10 am. Worth checking out.

« Best Western is the Best »

Any time I have stayed at a Best Western they are flawless in amenities. Everything is so clean. There is never a concern that I will get my monies worth. I never have to worry if it is clean. They even put ear plugs in the room. Wow that is awesome.

« A most enjoyable stay and will be back for sure »

From arrival to departure it was completely effortless. It was quiet and nice to sit outside at night...The breakfast was bomb diggity...and on top complimentary...This was an unexpected bonus.. The bed was sooo comfy...Will be back...oh, and then gave us bottles of water for our drive back home upon checking out.

Room very clean and nicely decorated. Restaurant very nice and good menu for dinner and breakfast. Liked the shower, had soap, shampoo and conditioner on the wall. Check-in and out very easy. Pool was clean and nicely kept.

    « Upgraded to a suite »

Upon checkin we decided to change from a top floor to a ground floor as had enough of carting bags up stairs. Lady at reception kindly upgraded us to a spa suite & very nice. Nice lounge area with 2 seater lounge & separate single lounge chair & footstool. 2 TV's one in lounge one in bedroom. Because it was a spa suite one had a bigger step up to access the shower in hindsight & being seniors had we known this we may not have accepted it but for 1night we managed Hotel had a lot staying but was very quiet Everything was squeaky clean with a great comfy bed. Complimentary WiFi, breakfast (this was in the attached restaurant & is a set menu not buffet) & free parking Ate at the restaurant where we enjoyed good food, cold beer (not so good wine) & entertainment (guy with guitar singing & very good)

« Great stay in Tucson »

This is a great place to stay in Tucson. Close to the university, community college, downtown and convention center. Front desk upgraded my reservation without being asked. I have stayed here several times and it just keeps getting better. The rooms are modern, lots of outlets for the gadgets, well decorated and appointed. Everything works as it should. The restaurant is clean and has a great menu. The food is outstanding and the staff attentive. You can't go wrong staying here.

    « Good road stop on I-10 »

The Best Western Royal Sun Inn has a friendly and helpful staff. There is a clean outdoor pool and exercise room. We were given coupons for drinks and breakfast. The drink coupon was "buy one, get one free" which we used at the cantina. We each had a full breakfast in the restaurant with our coupons. This is an older hotel, and the rooms need updating. The carpet and furniture were worn. The closet door was off-track and some of the outlets were loose. That being said, it was a great bargain. It was clean, the staff was very courteous, and the breakfast was great.

    « Loved it »

We enjoyed our stay here very much. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with a large inviting pool in the center. The rooms have been redecorated with modern finishes, and provide a sitting area outside to enjoy the lovely climate. There is also a restaurant on the grounds that has a nice selection of dishes and good service.

    « Excellent! »

Stayed here for a couple of days before heading into a summer camp to work. What Can I say? There was nothing to fault. The guy at check in was so pleasant and helpful. An amazing selection of cooked to order breakfast is included in your stay. I had something different every morning and it was delicious. I also ate one night in the restaurant and Hannah was absolutely lovely and couldn't have been nicer. I also drank in the bar and they offer 2 for 1 specials. The room was huge with a tv, wifi and complimentary toiletries. So comfortable as well. I was suffering from jet lag and it was a great bed to relax in. The pool and gym are also pretty good. The pool is heated which is pleasant even in the hot weather. The gym is small but has some good machines and a couple of vending machines. There is wifi but I used my 4g as it was still a bit quicker. I had hired a car and there was plenty of parking plus an enterprise location just down the road which made it easy to return. So close to some good restaurants and downtown Tucson as well. All the staff I met were excellent and so pleasant. I would definitely recommend a stay here!

    « Clean and Convenient »

This property was very clean and convenient ...It is close to the University. It is also close to downtown and the main drag Speedway. The hotel room was very clean and the staff was very nice. There is a pool and hot tub that was well maintained. You get breakfast with your stay. A nice sit down off the menu breakfast. The only down side is it can get noisy and you can here the train several times a night.

    5
« Very convenient and comfortable »

This motel was easy to find and quite comfortable. The rooms were clean and large enough. Service was excellent and cheerful. Breakfast was included and was cooked to order, instead of the usual buffet. All in all, an excellent experience in Tucson.

    « Great Stay »

The hotel grounds are charming, well maintained and lovely. The rooms are good sized, clean and have everything you need. The beds however were very uncomfortable and did not afford a good nights sleep. The restaurant and bar food was excellent, well presented and very tasty. One of the best breakfast we have had at a Best Western Hotel. Friendly and helpful staff.

    « Wonderful »

We stayed here two nights so we could explore Saguaro National Park. We had a suite -room 234. Very clean, comfortable bed, Jacuzzi that worked perfectly after hiking all day. You get vouchers for breakfast at the hotel's restaurant. You choose from 10 breakfasts- from their regular menu. The hotel restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner so when we asked Angela for a recommendation, she naturally steered us there... But we said we want to explore the restaurants in Tucson... Her two recommendations - one a seafood restaurant and one a Mexican were perfect. She is the person to see for restaurant recommendations. We had a minor issue with our toilet which was fixed (after asking our permission to enter the room while we were out). All in all a great choice for a hotel in Tucson.

« Older Hotel but very good rooms »

This hotel was chosen because of it's proximity to U of A. After reading so many positive reviews, we chose this hotel. The rooms are spacious and very nicely remodeled. The front desk personnel were pleasant and accommodating. There is a restaurant owned by the hotel and we were given free breakfast coupons. The breakfast was average, but he restaurant staff was outstanding. We had one issue with the cleanliness of the room. A previous occupant of the room had dumped their garbage into the chest of drawers. We asked to have it cleaned, but when we returned to the room, the housekeeper had not cleaned the drawer. We asked again and the front desk person cleaned out the drawer but it really needed to be disinfected as it was littered with food. Our traveling companions let the staff know again and the BW wrote a letter of apology, awarded hotel points and provided training to the housekeeping staff. I would say that the BW made this right and I would stay there again.

    « My Husband's favorite Best Western »

We travel between California and Texas frequently. This has become my husband's favorite hotel in between our drive. We have stayed here over the past 4 years and have seen a vast improvement in the remodeling and maintenance of this hotel. It is an older property, but very well maintained. The staff is always very friendly and upbeat. It is important to be greeted with a friendly attitude. Every employee here seems to have that friendly attitude. The adjoining restaurant and lounge is a big plus! We love to go there for drinks before bedtime and for the delicious full breakfast in the morning. Thanks to the management for running such a smooth operation!

    2
« Not the best Best Western »

It was an okay stay. We didn't spend a lot of time in the room. Room smelled like bleach, not enough counter space on sink counter and could have used another electrical outlet. Towels too thin and course. Pillows too small and stiff. Carpeting too old and stiff and didn't feel clean.

    3
    « Good and bad. »

The bad -The ac unit is located in the room and was sort of loud. The bed was too firm for our liking. No room available on first floor so had to take 2nd floor room. No elevator so hefting luggage up and down stairs was a bummer. The tv channels were limited. The good - 2 for 1 drinks happy hours in the evening and made to order breakfast.

    4
    « Nice place »

I stayed here for the better part of a week during business travel. The grounds were kept nice, the room was decent however dated, they had a sitting area right outside each door to enjoy the Tucson mornings/evenings. The restaurant was convenient & they also have a bar, which I got drinks from but never went it (drinks were good). Great location for my purpose. Not a fancy facility, but functional. Wi-Fi was horrible, but free.

« We were here again »

My husband and I are/were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and we decided to travel & hike through the west. We started our excellent adventure by staying at the only hotel we'll stay in Tucson - this place. Having a restaurant attached to the hotel is the next best thing. The restaurant has excellent food and Hannah (we've had her before) is the VERY BEST waitress there. We actually stayed 2 nights because we wanted to go to Tombstone, plus I wanted to hike some of the mountains in the area. The hotel is great and the restaurant is great. This time we used the earplugs they provide but our room was #231 and actually we didn't notice the train so much in this room. Yes, it was on the second floor but that's fine with us and we prefer. Again, anytime we go to Tucson, we will stay here. We just hope Hannah is still there. I will tell you that we didn't like or enjoy the server (male - Monday evening) we had on our second day. He was terrible and I think it took 1.5 hours to get served, we didn't like his slowness or his comments. I think he thought he was funny, but my husband wasn't having any of it. Hopefully someone from Best Western will address have him retrained. Anyway, stop by and have a nice meal and sleep at this hotel.

« Just skip the nonsense and come here »

I did a ton of research on area hotels that were $100 bucks or less. I chose the Best Western for safety and amenities. I made the right choice and if I need a hotel room in Tuscon again, this will be my choice. Tips: get an extra towel at check in. Regardless of how you shower, water will be on the floor. You will want the extra towel. Don't put anything on the toilet tank, it's subtlety curved on the edges. The TVs are too far away from the bed and couch. The remote signal does not teach it. Move the couch, not the bed. The bed has some funky anchoring and putting it back is more challenging than pulling it out. The fitness center information is hard to come by. It opens at 5a. You have to go inside the pool area to get there. Other stuff: I noticed the maids wash the shower curtains after every check out. Nice. It's not a free breakfast, lol. That's a pet peeve of mine. We paid for that breakfast in the rate. Speaking of breakfast: yes, it's lovely. But i would much rather have the usual Best Western buffet. Sure, you get 10 breakfasts to choose from, and the two i had were well made. No substitutions. No takeout. Meh. Plus the tip meaning you now paid for breakfast twice. Would rather have more of what i want ( protein and nuts) and skip the ' balanced' options on a menu. Stay here. Yep. All the glowing reviews about the restaurant are true. Yep, it's fantastic.

    « Expectations exceeded »

A non-luxury brand in a non-major city is not something I generally get excited about, but I was pleasantly surprised by this property. I have stayed in Best Westerns before I they all usually had the same "meh" look & feel - but this one was different. Once inside my room I was absolutely impressed by the decor, quality of the furnishings, amenities, and space. This did not feel like a Best Western (it felt like something more). Im not sure if this property is an overachiever or if Best Western did a refresh to all their properties, but I would look forward to returning here. The lounge & restaurant were also fantastic. Loved late-night karaoke, and the complimentary breakfast is certainly a plus. The swimming pool looked inviting, although I did not use it. Front desk staff was friendly at check-in and check-out, and I even received a phone call after I got to my room from the front desk, making sure everything was perfect. Great place for work, vacation, and families. Bravo, Best Western.

    « Better than expected »

Chose this location because it was down the street from the the Fox theater and they accepted pets. The location seemed sketchy. But the property was a pleasant surprise. We loved the restaurant. Go there just to have breakfast. The staff there is awesome.

« this hotel is okay »

Based on my first nights stay I would never stay here again and rate this as a near zero of a hotel. But I had booked my photo group for two more nights and theose were a lot better - very close to what I expect from teh Best Western brandded hotels. The first night the attached restaurant took over half an hour to make a hamburger, the second time I tried the restaurant the waiter nate was entertaining and efficient and great fun. And angela at teh front desk solved a few problems fvor us, so we were hapy with her help. A few highs a few lows so an average rating.

« Worth what we paid »

Actually thought we were staying somewhere else but ended up here. The clerk was inundated since she was by herself, but kept it all together. Good for her. Nice pool. Clean, clean, clean, Great free hot breakfast. Price was really reasonable. Location was a little busy.

    2
    « Dark and old »

The rooms need to be updated, they are dark with filthy carpet. Window in bathroom needs to be removed, a little scary when staying alone. Better lighting. We've stayed in other Best Western and this was the worse.

    5
« Great Room, Great Restaurant »

The room was excellent and quiet. Then the unexpected treat was the restaurant. VERY good food and reasonable price. we will stay here again when we drive to the Mexican border, to or from. It is a perfect distance from the Nogales border crossing.

    4
    « Convenient for park »

We stayed here because of its location to Saguaro National Park. It was nice and roomy, had what we needed, and the staff was very helpful. (Angela in particular). They had a complimentary breakfast you ordered from a menu (10 choices). It was the best complimentary breakfast on this trip. They had a nice pool that we did not use. There were a couple minor negatives. There was only a shower (no tub), which was a little disappointing. After hiking, I enjoy a hot soaking. There was no laundry facility and the air conditioning blower was really loud. The positives definitely out weighed the negatives. I would recommend it.

    5
    « Best ever »

Amazing restaurant! Great free breakfast selection. Best I have ever had, and I have had hundreds. I had two dinners that were really good. Everything fresh with daily specials with a real chef. Totally amazing for a hotel restaurant! Great room and good coffee. The internet is real high speed. I was able to stream HBO and Netflix on my computer. This has got to be the best place I have stayed at.

    5
    « Great value! »

My son was recently accepted to U of A and we were making a visit out to campus, just one night stay. Since our trip was planned somewhat last minute, I wound up getting a last minute rate on this hotel. We got a suite, and it was a great room, for a great value. The restaurant was really wonderful, we ate dinner there on Sunday night and breakfast on Monday morning. The servers were very friendly and outgoing, and extremely helpful in making suggestions. The food was really good too. The only negative was that the sofa bed mattress was very uncomfortable, but the master bed was extremely comfortable.

    4
    « The unlock doors »

Excellent breakfast, good location. Well maintained out side gardens. Extreme difficulty in locking doors. Bed mattress and pillows need to be replaced. This place could be a dream motel with a little more work

    « ?A hidden gem? »

We have stayed here twice during our road trips and I find it really hard to get comfortable away from home. A hotel is a hotel is a hotel. But what makes this Best Western different is the employees. The reception was friendly and welcoming. One thing that they did was call our room after we had time to settle in to check that everything was satisfactory. There are also the small things that gives it an extra edge. They pay attention to small details, included were ear plugs, extra towels, and USB charging ports, for those who forgot their wall charger. Everything was where it suppose to be. TV controls, extra power outlets, fridge, blow dryer and desk. It was convenient and comfortable. The hotel is close to downtown so it is next to a busy road, so there was some noise, but nothing that kept us awake - hence the provided earplugs, I am assuming for those that are noise sensitive to noise. Another plus is that it's a dog friendly which is also conducive to a traveling family. The bed was very comfortable with nice linens and we both slept well. The room was nicely arranged with a comfortable chair and ottoman (wish there had been 2), a nice desk and chair and a small refrigerator. The room was clean, contemporary and comfortable. The room had 4 sets of bath towels. The shower was equipped with the normal hotel amenities. The room looked to have been recently renovated. We had the Standard King room with a refrigerator and It was excellent. The flat screen television LCD's are great if they are appropriately sized for the room. Ours was something like a 32" - I would recommend at least a 40". The heated outdoor pool and hot tub are newly renovated and were clean. Towels were provided and the poolside furniture was very comfortable. The complimentary breakfast is ?A hidden gem? not to be missed. Cook-to-order breakfast served daily at Royal Sun Restaurant attached diner each morning between 6:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. You actually get to order off the menu and have a prepared meal served by a smiling server. This is not a "box of cereal and container of yogurt" place. It's a restaurant and nice one at that. Some guest forget to tip because it's a complimentary breakfast. The restaurant opens every morning at 6AM to start off your day with a great selection of breakfast food. They have everything from Biscuits & Gravy, Country Fried Steak, Malted Vanilla Belgian Waffles to a generous serving of fresh seasonal Fruit with Yogurt & Granola or an Egg White & Turkey Bacon Combo. Although they offer hotel guests 10 complimentary made-to-order meals from 6-9am, they stay open for breakfast until 11am. We went there for dinner also. It is opened from 5 ? 10PM and offers what I would call ?Contemporary Comfort? food. Once again the meals are made to order when you arrive. They offer steaks, a variety of delicious pasta dishes, Angus burgers, grilled seafood and entrée salads. I found the menu well diversified - they also offer daily specials. Nice variety of tasty dishes and convenient. The service is fast and friendly. On our first visit I had a rib eye steak and a Shrimp Carbonara Pasta on the second visit. My wife's dinner was Stake Diane and the Chicken warped with prosciutto the second time. Neither one of us was disappointed. Finished with a great cup of coffee. Very reasonable prices will definitely go again! One more thing, the cocktail lounge has two for one drinks special for hotel guests between 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in the lounge. My recommendation for "older folks" like us is book early and request a ground floor room since hauling heavy luggage up the stairs is quite a chore. Sitting at the Beautiful fish pond area that have picnic tables for guests to relax, read a book or surf the web in Tucson's sunny weather. Very pleasant stay at the Best Western. We will definitely stay here again in the future. Don't forget to ask for their AAA & AARP discounts if you are a member.

« Our favorite Best Western in Tucson »

Overall great customer service. A fun place with fun staff including restaurant and bar/lounge. Clean rooms and comfortable beds. Everything you need to start your morning including in-room coffee maker, complimentary coffee pods (enough for two cups each!). Small Refrigerator if one needs it and, my fave, large, lighted magnifying mirror in the vanity area for perfect makeup application.

    « Excellent »

I recently stayed in this motel style lodging. I was really impressed by every aspect of our stay. The layout of the premises is excellent with all the rooms over looking the swimming pool (which was cleaned daily). Breakfast was good. Staff were good. Easily the nicest place we stayed at on our trip to the USA.

« Great value rooms in well maintained motel »

Seldom does one pays less than $100 for a very clean and well maintained suite. Further the grounds and parking are tidy and garden-like. Staff couldn't be more helpful. I do have some questions about providing a high-volume hot tub in the desert. Otherwise, being green is a goal of this motel.

« Nice Employees, but annoying problems... »

My daughter and I only stayed one night and our key card failed to work twice. First time was our first time entering the room. We were on the second floor with both shoulders burdened with luggage - key card didn't work.... So, down the stairs, not a short distance to the office, they politely re-keyed it. 9:30pm we heard someone trying to enter our room, then a phone call. It was the front desk asking who we were! They apologized, said they knew their mistake and said these things happen. Next morning, after breakfast (which was really good), same thing. They called it administrative problems. Grrr... Anyway, great shower, clean rooms. I think an initial mix up plagued our stay. I would stay again - really, could this happen that often? I hope not...

    4
    « Good Value »

Our room was been remodeled recently and was very clean. Close to everything and an overall nice stay. The restaurant was a nice surprise, it was recently remodeled and had an exceptional staff. We had breakfast each morning and enjoyed dinner one evening.

    « Not Dog Friendly »

Booked this hotel because it was dog friendly, and we have had good luck with most Best Westerns...not any more! How can you say you are pet friendly, charge EXTRA, and not have a BLADE of grass!? Yes there is a park across the major street...which is more like a highway in most cities (6 lanes). Almost topping that is the bed! This one is a small step above sleeping on a box spring. Feels like a box spring, sounds like a box spring, I actually checked! The hotel is very pretty, the front and the employees were friendly and helpful, but we will not return.

« Very nice rooms that were immaculate. »

The rooms are modern and recently renovated with granite counter top and lovely tile work. A carb heavy but nice breakfast buffet was included. Staff was very accommodating. Rates were good. A very nice place to stay while traveling through.

    « Pleasant stay »

The patio with water feature, picnic table were very nice to sit and enjoy the great weather. It was quiet at night and the bed comfortable. I rode the exercycle and went for a swim daily. There was a city park across the street and the down town area was a short drive.

    « Very Impressed »

I was a little apprehensive about the noise levels in this hotel. I requested a private room when we booked and they accommodated. Although there was noise and the walls were thin, it didn't bother us at all and we are very noise sensitive. We brought a small homemade pink noise machine and we weren't woken up once. The room was spacious, clean and well kept up. The grounds were nicely maintained and although I can understand why some reviewers said there was a shady element around, we never felt unsafe at any time. Parking was ample and we felt safe parking our rental car there. The pool was very nice although we didn't spend too much time there. The breakfast was definitely the best part! Every morning we got free coupons to eat breakfast in the restaurant on the grounds. It was so nice to eat a real diner breakfast each morning, not a sad steam tray of powdered eggs and bacon. It was delicious and the service was prompt and friendly. The selections were ample (everything from the traditional bacon-eggs-hashbrowns-toast to waffles, fruit plates and healthy oatmeal. I believe there are ten free options). If you wanted something different off the regular menu the free breakfast coupon gives you $2 off the regular menu. Although all of the hotel staff we came into contact with were great (especially the staff at the restaurant) I want to make special mention of Angela. She bent over backwards to help us and made sure everything went smoothly for us. She really made us feel welcome and went above and beyond. She is the definition of outstanding service!

« Good Location Near U of A and Museums »

We booked this hotel because it was centrally located to do sightseeing in Tucson area. I did ask for a second floor room but forgot to ask for one near the office so we did occasionally hear the train in the distance. Upon check-in we were told that we were being upgraded to a king suite which was very nice but the room was not ready until a bit after 3:30. The desk clerk was very nice in giving us suggestions and directions to various places. Lucky for us it was a Sunday and the lounge was open (not during week in afternoon) so we waited there until we could go up to the room. The room itself was clean and comfortable - looking like it had been remodeled in recent past. The included made to order breakfast made this a great value and all of the wait staff in the restaurant were extremely friendly. The only downside that really didn't affect us all that much was we could hear the kids in the next room on our first night and when we came back from sightseeing at 4 pm the room was still not serviced. At that point all we wanted was new towels so we called the desk and they didn't arrive until 5 pm. All in all our 3 night stay was pretty good and I would stay again if in the area.

« Clean, quiet, comfortable and dog friendly »

The people were friendly and helpful. My husband loved the breakfast, was the best he's had in a hotel in a while. The room was large and comfortable. We did not have any noise problems, we were on the end in 241. I liked the chairs and the deck in the front. I ran up University to the Arizona campus, which was a nice run. The campus is beautiful. Would return.

« Nice and Convenient, has restaurant and lounge, pool »

This restaurant has everything you need to make your stay comfortable. It has an outdoor pool and a outdoor hot tub. When we went it was too cold for us to go in, though it was heated. The room came with free breakfast across the parking lot and 2 for one drink coupons. The two for one drink coupons were for well drinks which to me tasted awful, but the drinks with premium alcohol were great. We went to the lounge both nights we stayed. Both nights had some sort of entertainment. We had dinner one night at the restaurant which was good. Nothing extra ordinary and nothing bad at all. The service was nice. The hotel room room was nice, clean, we had a king room right across from the pool. The room has cable tv and a sofa bed. Outside our room was a table with two chairs so we could sit outside and smoke. The breakfast was good. You got to pick off a menu with certain items for the free breakfast or you could pick something else for $2.00 off. The breakfast was really good. And the service was spectacular! The atrium is very quaint with a nice sitting area. Parking is a little cramped.

    « Fantastic value »

Two room suite, pool, free breakfast and two for one drinks, within walking distance of shops, friendly and efficient staff, great value for the money. Not a fancy place but has all you need. rated as 4 for overall experience - it's not a 4 star hotel. Definitely recommend this place. And would return if in the Tucson area again.

VERY noisey.. TRAINS, road traffic (semis and loud cars) also kids screaming and running around at night room next door had young baby who sreamed and cried often. could hear tvs from adjoining rooms also. Was shocked to find earplugs provoded am so glad they had them in room. Rooms had been recently redone but cabinets appeared to be retrofitted when anyone walked on floor door bounced up and down banging and making noise. Left door open rest of night.nice minifridge. Not enought parking spot as we came in late people roaming around parking lot. . staff was very nice and chairs to sit outside was nice. Didnt make it to breakfast they advertised ended @930. Bed was ok loved having lots of pillows. Do have to say the hotel was very full

« Great stay and location in Tucson »

I stay in Tucson every month and the Royal Sun Inn & Suites is the best for the money. It is close to the university, downtown, and I-10. There are a lot of good restaurants in the area, but the Royal Sun Restaurant and Lounge has good food within a short walk of the room.

My son and I were in Tucson for a night and stayed at the Best Western. Comfortable rooms and cozy beds. The location is perfect if you want a quick drive to great restaurants downtown. Parking is easy. Free breakfast and wifi. Will definitely stay there again!

« incredible clean and well appointed »

from the outside, it looks like a typical best western but once i entered my room, i was pleasantly surprised how clean and nicely appointed it was. the room definitely exceeded my expectation, except yhe bathroom was a little on the small side. other than that, i would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this place.

    « Great Stay! »

An older, nicely maintained motel, with super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. Delicious and filling made-to-order breakfast at the restaurant on property, included with our booking. Clean pool and hot tub area. Location was perfect for getting to where I needed to get to each day. The only 'problem' encountered was the lack of hot water for my shower. It warmed up the longer the water was on. I took a cold shower the first day, but learned that it just has to run for a bit before getting in. Problem solved. I would definitely stay here again! :-)

« Spacious rooms and updated baths »

Older hotel nicely updated with fairly spacious rooms and modern bathrooms. We had a 1st floor king-sized bed room in the building by the pool. Hotel layout is spread out with some rooms across the "alley" in a separate building than where you check in. Since it's an older hotel, walls seem to be a little thinner than you'd expect--we heard everything going on next door (I thought it was MY iPhone ringing!) and could hear the people walking upstairs. The folks in the next room were sitting out in the chairs in front of their room one evening and even with the A/C on, the windows closed and the curtains drawn, it was like they were standing in the my room. The proximity to the pool could be a problem in the summer months---it was too cold while we were there to be much of an issue. All in all, though, comfortable rooms and the A/C unit has a fan option which was great for those cooler evenings. Breakfast was in the restaurant at the main entrance and always overcrowded and rushed. Not the traditional buffet, you chose from a select menu. Waiters seemed harried and we often had to wait for beverages. Nice people, just very rushed. I'd stay here again. Very friendly and well located.

« Another Perfect Stay at Best Western Royal Sun »

I always try to book this motel when on business in Tucson. It's an older motel but very clean and comfortable and the staff is AWESOME! You even get a freshly baked-hot-out-of-the-oven chocolate chip cookie during check-in! My meeting was too early to enjoy their complimentary breakfast. I did visit the lounge the evening before. Nice place to unwind. No loud music this time (thank you). The beds are extremely comfortable. Got a great night's sleep!

    3
« perfectly adequate, but not much more »

We stayed at the Royal Sun while on business in Tucson for the annual, amazing book festival. The hotel's chief selling point is its proximity to the University of Arizona campus, which is a long walk or short (5 min) bike/car ride away. Don't expect many amenities -- there isn't even an elevator for lugging your bags to the second floor rooms -- but the lodgings themselves are reasonably spacious, with good beds and adequate bathroom/sink space. Even without the blackout curtain in place, however, rooms can be exceedingly dark even at peak daylight hours, and the faded chairs set out on the terraces don't necessarily present the most inviting lounge area. A little upgrading would go a long way. To their credit, reception staff are friendly and willing to accommodate requests. Guests may also obtain coupons to the adjoining restaurant (a separate establishment), which offers an excellent, varied breakfast. Nightowls may also appreciate the late closing of the bar, but beware karaoke nights on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays, especially if a local character named "Donut" happens to be in the house.

    3
« Good Value, Great Stay »

Best Western Royal Sun is just blocks from UofA which makes it an excellent choice if you have business there. The area is pretty run down, has been for many many years, but that's Tucson for you. If you want new and fresh, stay in Oro Valley or Catalina Foothills. The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was spacious (they put us in a handicapped room) and the front desk friendly and helpful. We weren't interested in the breakfast. Overall, this was a great stay and a good choice for a quick weekend at the University.

« Decent enough but could do with some changes - but then, what hotel couldn't? »

My wife and I stayed here for three nights in February 2016. In general, the hotel is fine: the rooms are OK (but see below), the restaurant (separate review) is excellent for both dinner and breakfast), the pool area is popular (not tried by us), there's a gym (again, not sampled), and location is OK too (although a little remote if you don't want to drive. However, I did reply to the hotel's post stay survey and elaborated on certain aspects regarding some TLC needed in the guest rooms as follows: in my opinion, the lighting was poor in that the room was dark even with all lights on; a better (more rigid, more appropriate-looking) toilet seat would not go amiss; the shower curtain didn't quite reach far enough to the floor to avoid runnels of water exiting to the base of the toilet area; the room was dull colour-wise - all dull browns and greys and similar shades, and therefore not bright and welcoming (maybe that one is a little too much of a personal preference); the closet doors were not properly seated on the sliding rails - I fixed one (simply by lifting and placing correctly) but the other needed more attention. And outside the room, the walkway surface was cracked and pitted and shows signs of becoming a tripping hazard in the near future. All the above are either minor, personal preferences, or easily fixed, and have all ben advised to hotel management. Let's see if any action is taken. Would I return? Regardless of the above, yes.

« Great Value - More than adequate. »

Although older, this motel has been reno'd a few years ago. Certainly clean, great value with the breakie and cocktail coupons. The location puts you right in the middle of Tucson locations. The restaurant on site has super service and the best choices for breakfast. My husband thought the bed needs to be replaced....perhaps the only consideration.

    « First time visitors »

Great location for U of A, downtown, old town. freeway and tourist attractions. We were able to do everything we planned in our two days and hope to return at some future date to see more. The room was very nice and clean and the restaurant next door was very convenient. After a long drive, it was nice to walkover for a decent meal and not having to drive around and look for a place to eat..

    « Location, location! »

The newly remodeled two story motel was very convenient for us as we were there to see the University if Arizona. It's less than a mile and we could walk to campus through the old neighborhood west of campus. We were also close to restaurants and discovered that we were close to downtown also. Although the area around it seems a little run down, the motel was very comfortable and clean.

« Nice place to relax after hiking in the desert »

Really enjoyed my stay at the Royal Sun Inn in Tucson. Even though it is near a busy road in the city it did not feel like that. I liked how close it was to the area I was hiking and right next to the freeway so I did not have to drive the long streets with so many strip malls that are in Tucson to get where I was going. My room was clean and quiet and I really enjoyed the hot tub and pool.

    « Great Stay »

Clean, comfortable, affordable. We'd stay here again- Everything was in good order, inside and out. The staff was friendly and anticipated our needs before we did. I'd trade the pillows off, but other than that, it was very pleasant. Breakfast was great with loads of options.

    « Nice Hotel , Sketchy location »

Stopped for the night after a long drive, Hotel is clean and nice, room was clean and quiet, restaurant on site had good food and reasonable prices. The front desk staff was not overly friendly. They do not have coffee available in the lobby and do not have a continental breakfast, they do give you a coupon for a free breakfast at the restaurant. The area is, at best, questionable, and I do not recommend walking anywhere from the hotel at night.

    « Nice Hotel »

We had the suite and enjoyed the jetted tub. The hotel was Close to University of Arizona which was perfect for us while we visited our daughter. The room was comfortable but the beds were too hard. Unfortunately, we didn't have a very good breakfast. Parking was convenient.

    « Great Place......Terrible Location.....But Improving. »

This is a well done hotel in a not so good part of town. The area is on the up but isn't there yet. Real nice rooms and grounds and you are not able to see the surrounding area from the courtyard, this makes the hotel better, IMHO. There is a Cantina and Restuarant, but they are only open early AM and after 5pm. VERY friendly staff, good food and comfortable rooms.

« Not Deserving of 4.5 out of 5 Rating! »

We unfortunately, as a lot of other people, assumed with a TripAdvisor rating of 4.5 that this was simple and safe choice. Positives: Clean rooms, Friendly staff, Nice pool, Good free breakfast. Negatives: Dated facility ? we had a suite and it did not even have a microwave, Noise can be easily heard from adjacent rooms ? we had construction workers on one side and heard the F-bomb dropped repeatedly, Location in Tucson is not good ? park across the street is a congregation place for many homeless people. Find a different place and closely read the comments (wish we did).

« Average hotel with above average noise »

I think that this is the first hotel that I've stayed in where each guest is provided earplugs as the main amenity in the room. It did not take long to find the purpose. The hotel can do little to control the noise of the guests, but the thin walls and squeaky, thump-transmitting floors make the problem worse. I could clearly hear the adjoining room conversation (which was pretty intense for a bit). Moreover, the hotel seems to be amid multiple train tracks. There were rumbling trains blasting horns ALL night, almost every hour. I picked this hotel on a pretty dumb basis--the rate was higher than other area hotels and I assumed that I'd get what I paid for. This is a terrible value. The room was clean, breakfast was decent and the staff was average. But the room value and the noise put this property at the bottom of Best Western quality.

« I am a Platinum member and very unhappy »

Upon arrival the room I requested was not what I had reserved, I had requested a downstairs suit and they had me in an upstairs standard. The girl at the desk was very nice and accommodated my request. Approximately an hour after I checked in I was checking my account and found that they had charged my personal Debit Card and not the company credit card on file that was supposed to be used. I contacted the front desk and informed them of the mistake, the girl a different one pulled the file and stated "yeah the other card is right here i'm not sure why she used the card she did". The girl was nice and charged my company card and set a refund back to my personal card, this of course caused an issue due to taking almost $300 off the wrong card i'm sure it will take at least 48 hours to credit and there are other things pending. On my first morning I went down for the complimentary breakfast, there is a note on the coupon that states no take out, after sitting for about 5 minutes and looking at the regular menu the waiter came over and asked what I would like. I asked him if I order from the reg menu can I get that to go?. The waiter literally threw his hands down made a noise and stated "I guess it's in the middle of rush" and was very upset over my request to pay for my own meal and take it to go. I said never mind I don't want to put you out by buying my own food and got up to leave. The waiter said "sir sit down ill serve you we just don't do carry out during rush" I again said never mind I wont spend my money here, if its going to make it hard for you. He then stated i'm not trying to give you a hard time but we have been open since 0600 (this happened at 0830). I just walked out and still have no clue what them being open since 0600 has to do with anything. I went to the restaurant last night and ordered a meal to go and the service was great and food was amazing. Overall depending on how my second night goes I will probably never stay here again nor will I send any of my employees here. I have never had a bad stay at any Best Western and as a Platinum member that says a lot. Guess there is a first for everything....sad

    « Arizona road trip »

We had originally booked a different hotel but found the Best Western to be better positioned for down town but it was still a 20 min walk. Due to a conference there was little other choice than this hotel and we had to book a suite (only room left) which after negotiation we were charged just over $300 which I thought was overpriced and it had a small bathroom for a suite. However, the front room and bedroom was quite spacious and clean and the staff very friendly. There is also a good restaurant right next to reception which is also where breakfast is served.

    « Stay here »

Very friendly staff, Very clean rooms in standard version (two queens). Enough parking space. Only negativ is: remote from TV did not work properly... I could live with that! Location is very good either to go central or go south in Tucson!

    « So noisy »

I will preface this review by saying we didn't tell hotel staff about our issue. In hindsight, we should have, but we needed a special room arrangement and thought it unlikely we could be moved. Also, our main issue was noise and the hotel room came with free ear plugs!! I have never seen these provided in a room before and it made me think all rooms would be noisy - why else would they provide ear plugs? We were on the bottom floor and apparently had vampires staying above us because they would walk around their room at all hours. The last night, they went to bed around midnight, then got up and walked around from 1am-2am and then got up for good at 6 am. We had noise problems every night of our stay, but the last night was the worst. Not only could we hear people walking around above us, we could also hear showers running and the toilet flushing. We could also hear coughing from the room next door, so it wasn't only noise from above. I am sorry about the noise issues at the hotel because it was so nice in other ways. The rooms were huge, the place was clean, the pool was nice, and the breakfast was pretty good. The food at breakfast was diner style and was a step back in time, in a good way. The breakfast staff were very friendly and the food came quickly, even when the place was packed. I don't know why they would spend so much money remodelling the rooms and not put money towards soundproofing. I can't remember another hotel where I could hear so much noise from the room above.

« Royal treatment... And sun.... »

Get a room facing the pool in the sun...great beds w foam pillows, no feathers here! The shower is really just a walk in stall which offers little privacy, and the basic amenities are just that: basic. Hair dryer and coffee pot. The area is rather seedy, but the hotel forms a safety courtyard and feels safe. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable, pool is clean and tiny fitness center offers bare minimum. However, the Royal Sun bar offers you 2 fers for happy hour, sports live music from a local quintet, and is a local venue. Met a Brit clay pigeon shooting team there for the annual competition, fun. And breakfast cooked to order from a menu of 9 choices. Pet fee of $20. All in all a good, safe, clean, entertaining night was had by me and ma dawg!

« "Very nice place to stay" »

We stayed in room 115, open the door and there was the hot tub & heated pool, work out room, This is a well kept, clean property and the staff was helpful, excellent in every way. Walking distance to downtown Tucson or bus service in front of hotel on Stone St. The breakfast was fresh cooked to order at the Royal Sun restaurant also on the property. Tucson Tours will pick you up at this location and provide a wonderful tour of the city.

« Wonderful Hotel Close to everything »

Stayed at this place in January during our visit to Tucson for the Rock and Gem Show-2016. We were in a big room on the ground floor with nice and clean rooms, beds and bathrooms. The breakfast was amazing and the workers were very friendly and brought a smile to your face every morning. Would definitely stay at this place next time too.

« Great place to stay »

The whole entire stay was enjoyable, from a friendly front desk staff to the service at the place we had breakfast. What was nice about this best western is that we had a lot of fresh cooked breakfast choices and 2-4-1 drink coupon to go with dinner. Loved the fresh cookies, get them quick they go fast.

« Nice property, helpful staff »

We stayed in the back portion of the hotel/motel and found it very quiet, away from the traffic. However the guest in the next room was very loud and we could hear everything he was talking about. We noticed that they had packages of ear plugs on the vanity and decided to use them but it really didn't help until the fellow stopped talking and went to sleep. Then, we had a very good sleep because the bed was most comfortable! The room was spacious and clean. Breakfast (cooked to order) was included in the restaurant. The hotel was very handy to all the places we wanted to visit including the rock and gem shows. The staff at the front desk were very helpful and friendly and so were the housekeeping staff. We enjoyed the tables and seating on the property.

« When in Tucson traveling with pets »

« Convenient location but with some drawbacks »

I recently stayed at this hotel which is near my daughter's apartment close to the U of AZ. It is conveniently located about one block from Speedway Blvd. I knew it to be an older hotel, but knowing I was only going to stay one night didn't concern me when I booked the hotel/motel. I say motel because the rooms are outside facing. Having said that, I would like to comment on my stay. The room has been remodeled so the comfort level was nice. The bed was fine and my one priority are firm pillows. This hotel has firm pillows so I slept well. The main complaint I have is the shower. There is no vent in the bathroom where the shower is, thus I had to keep the door open in order to feel any heat. Additionally, the shower looks like it's' design is from a camp cabin with just a shell to step into. The designers failed to adequately re-design this shower when they redesigned the room. The free breakfast was at the restaurant across the parking lot. Being that I stayed there in January and it was cold for AZ standards, having to go outside wearing a coat and gloves, and then back inside to eat was a bit inconvenient. However, the service was fine and the food was good.

« Nice motel and friendly staff »

This is a nice motel near the U of A. It is very clean and tidy and appears to have been updated recently. The included breakfast was also very good and the hotel and dining staff were helpful and efficient. If you are looking for a reasonably priced motel near the U - give it a try!

    « Great value! »

This was the BEST motel we have EVERY stayed at. The staff in the office, Brenda and Angela, the staff in the restaurant Nate, Burnie, Ron are THE best bar none! Friendly, cheerful, helpful etc.etc. Our room was large, airy and clean. Cannot say enough about the restaurant-breakfast free and choice of 10 different items dinners very tasty, large portions, great prices. Close to the university, Interstate 10, 4th Avenue with its great quirky shops. Incredible value for the price. Our friends don't have room for us to stay with them, so this will be our residence of choice from now on.

The person and no identification security uniform looked like a person just wandering around the property. When I asked who he was he told me "Security" then showed me a two-way radio, claiming this was his identification. I asked his who was only I saw him taking money from two males who climbed fence to use the spa after hours....

« Great stay in Downtown Tucson »

My fiancé and I chose this location so that we can go to nearby 4th Avenue to walk the shops, dinner, dancing. We never stayed here before and were pleasantly surprised about the great customer service at the front desk, the size of the room and how quiet it was. Nobody can help the train going through town, it is what it is. Angela at the front desk ordered a taxi for us to get to 4th Avenue. The next morning we had an outstanding breakfast at the hotel with an awesome waitress, Hannah. We will be back the next time we come back for more fun in the Old Pueblo. Thank you!

    « Surprising Excellance »

I got more than I expected for my money. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful and full of information. The rooms were very modern, clean with a very modern decor. There were no ticky, tacky flowered bedspreads here. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. You get free WiFi included at a speed where you can actually stream a movie. However, I reserve the most surprise for the attached restaurant, You get a free breakfast, and not just bagels and coffee. There are several choices of bacon and eggs and pancakes and waflfes and combinations thereof. Did I say this is included in the room rate? The dinner choices were Chicken Picata, sliced ribeye steak over pasta with Gogonzola and spinach, a hamburger with sliced Portabella mushrooms and sauce. I met locals who actually come to this diner for dinner. The food is really good, not healthy or vegan or such, but good solid food at $12-$15 per. The location is actually a 10-15 minute walk to the Univ of Arizona with lots of restaurants and shops. They have a full attached pub with several beers etc. They also make a mean Margarita. All in all excellent value for your money.

    « Huge Rooms »

My room had a king size bed and the surrounding room area was much larger than most hotel rooms. There was a separate sink which I suppose is a mini wet bar also in the room. There was a desk and a bed tray for a using a laptop in bed. There were two other chairs in the room. I slept well and I thought the bed was comfortable. The area surrounding the hotel is not good for walking. I drove one block through the neighborhood and all the houses had metal window and door guards. There is no elevator to the second floor. The fitness room has an elliptical, a treadmill, a stationary bike, and a limited universal set. There are no mats, dumbbells, cups, or towels. I did not see a camera, and there was not key control access to the room. (You can get into the pool area without a key). The floor appeared dirty. I was nervous working out by myself after dark. Two towels were provided in the room. There is a hair dryer and makeup mirror. An ironing board and iron was in the big closet. Upon check in, I was given a 2 for one drink coupon for the attached restaurant. The breakfast options included in your room rate are fantastic. You get to choose from the menu of the attached restaurant. The service was quick and the servers were very professional. The restaurant decor is modern, bright, and cheerful. The wifi worked well. There were lots of charging plugs in the room. There was not a huge amount of TV channels. The outdoor hot tub had a greenish hue, so I was afraid to go in. Someone was swimming in the larger pool in January, so I assume it is heated. I would recommend staying at this hotel if you're going to be gone all day. It's a good place to sleep, but not a great place for hanging around or walking to anything nearby.

« Tucson Best Western Royal Sun »

The hotel is clean and the staff are pleasant, however the noise level from the other rooms and the train running all night do not make for a restful nights sleep. The restaurant attached does provide a hot full breakfast for free instead of a small contemporary buffet. The quality of the food and service is excellent.

« great value, wonderful staff »

I have used Best Westerns frequently for their value. This hotel was particularly special. All the staff were considerate and caring. I arrived just before the restaurant closed after multi cross country delays. Had no difficulty receiving a wonderful dinner from a jovial waiter, enthusiastic cook both of whom assured me that my late arrival was not an imposition - and come stay awhile!

Very clean and comfortable room. The staff was very professional and friendly. The food was good with a varity of selections to choose from. Great location. Will stay here again if I am ever in Tucson for another meeting.

    « Enjoyable stay »

My wife and our friends shared a suite at this motel. We were given drink tickets and breakfast. Both were used and appreciated. We also ate evening meals at the motel. Very good food and nice selection. The bar area had gentlemen that played the guitar and sang. They were excellent for the venue. All the employees were very friendly and accommodating. This was one of the best Best Westerns I have stayed in. It is also very close to the Link light rail and its downtown and university sights and sounds.

    « Disappointing »

This BW was ok but nothing special. In noisy place. Disappointed it did not have extra blanket in room. No elevator for 2nd floor so if you cannot climb stairs be sure to indicate such when you make reservation. Most of all it was advertised as being downtown but it really isn't. Good location to Unversity. Motel offers 2 for one drink in bar next to motel but it is a scary place.

    « Three nights stay »

Single room upstairs. The room was very clean and quiet, in spite of the place being fully booked. Staff was excellent, the pool was heated and across the lounge the restaurant served a great breakfast. Alcohol is not served until after 5pm, in case you are jetlagged. Definitely will stay there again.

Visit was great. Excellent place, easy to find, price was fair with the deduction applied for my family. Full meal service was excellent. Parking in the back seems to small. Space need to be opened for parking. I did not see any elevator if none install one for people like me, elderly. There could be handicap people, too.

I have been staying at this location off and on for the last 30 yrs and have tryed other places but always come back to here.. When you are on a business trip its nice to walk in to lobie and be greeted by your name, it may not sound like much but when you are away from home for weeks at a time it is comforting to be addreesed by your name. Makes the job easyer.

« Pleasant stay and price, and nice breakfast too! »

Stumbled upon this Best Western out of desperation, as I'd made an booking error at another hotel that was full. Thankfully the Royal Sun had availability and was conveniently located. Was happy with a very reasonable price (even more so w/AAA discount) for a suite with 2 queens and hot "cooked to order" breakfast included! I was surprised to find the room comfortable, clean, and recently updated. The one downside was the noise. Our suite #136 (located in the back of the property) was ground floor. I could easily hear people walking upstairs and noise from several nearby trains. I'd definitely stay here again, I'd just ask for another room. The restaurant across the parking lot that serves the breakfast was so bright and cheerful; and the staff, especially the host, were wonderful. The food was great too, especially for being included!

    « High Desert Royalty »

Found this hotel online and was immediately taken with its exterior photo. It was something quirky out of the 1960s. So we drove to Tucson and had that most wonderful stay at the Royal Sun Inn. The rooms were ultra modern and comfortable and yet the exterior, lobby and dining areas are something out of a "Rat Pack movie." We had dinner and breakfast on site and the meals were extremely good and well presented. The entire staff was pleasant and helpful. In addition, we were able to bring our dog. We would return to Tucson just to return to the Best Western Royal Sun Inn.

« Good place to stay if visiting downtown or U of A »

Came to town for the Arizona Bowl. Wanted a place with access to U of A and downtown area. Both are an easy walk or bus ride from this property. Staff are very courteous and helpful. The included cooked breakfast is the best I have experienced at a US Best Western property. Two-for-One drinks in the lounge bar is an added bonus. While not cheap, this location offers good value for the money.

    « Dirty »

Stained sheets, uncomfortable beds, weird smelling room, tub had flaking paint chips, and I found a pill on the floor upon checkin. The only redeeming quality was the restaurant. We had a delicious and fresh dinner there. Would not recommend and would not stay again.

For the past 5 years we have driven from Houston to Tucson on our way to Nevada and have spent a night at Best Western Royal Sun. The rooms are nice and clean; but most of all the beds are very comfortable. The restaurant is clean, the food is very good and the staff is very friendly. We look forward to staying there again during our annual drive to Nevada.

« great stay in tucson »

If you need a place to stay in Tucson, this is the one for you. Great location, family friendly, heated pool and a wonderful restaurant for dinner and a made to order breakfast. The staff in the hotel and the restaurant are friendly helpful, and extremely courteous. Was nice to not have to drive after a busy day in the metro, just mozy on over to the connecting restaurant, order a pint of craft beer, wonderful selection, and order from the menu, great selection, enjoy the sunset, and head back to the very comfortable room... thanks, we had a great time....

« Bad smell and not safe »

We had no idea of the neighborhood this hotel is located in. Not safe for small kids. The smells in the room were overwhelming and due to the room being repaired not much better outside. The bedding was stained and we were not comfortable staying the full 3 nights. We left after 1 night and stayed in another hotel.

    « Excellant »

We live in the Dallas/Fort Worth TX area and drive to visit family in California. Tucson is a hard drive to make comfortably in a day. However, we plan our trips specifically to stay with the Royal Sun Inn. It is always clean and affordable, the food is superior, the service in restaurant phenomenal and staff in the motel very accommodating.

« Don't just this hotel by it's outside appearance »

I was a little taken aback by the exterior of this hotel as it looks like a motel from the 60s/70s. However, when we got to our room, it was completely updated with nice linens, new carpet, furniture, updated electronics and a great shower. The pool/jacuzzi was also an added plus... open in the winter - very clean and nice.

    « Excellent Hotel »

The staff here is outstanding. From the check in, to the restaurant, to the bar - you will not be disappointed. You will probably make this your Hotel to stay at for future trips. You get a free, cook to order breakfast every day! Also 2 for 1 drink coupons at the lounge.

« Great location, value and service »

I make an annual visit to Tucson for hiking, and after much trial and error, I've decided to make the Best Western Royal Sun Inn my go-to hotel. My headline pretty much says it all. The rooms are fine, especially for the price, and service is exceptional. A bonus is the attached restaurant and lounge, with food that exceeds expectations compared to its barebone appearance. Highly recommend.

    « Great Place/Great Price »

This hotel overall was a great place to stay. Rooms were clean, staff was friendly, location was great, hot cooked breakfast a plus. My only complaint would be the bed was a little hard for me but my husband loved it. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

« Excellent motel in downtown Tucson near the U of A »

I usually stay here while on business trips. They have excellent staff that will cater to your whims if at all possible. There is a restaurant and lounge onsite to unwind and relax. Lately, there has been live entertainment in the lounge -- if you can't take LOUD MUSIC, pack some ear plugs or check out clubs down the street. The rooms are very nice and the mattresses are heaven. I'll stay here again but will check on the entertainment before I book. I already have hearing loss and want to keep what I have left.

    « Nice Stay »

Overall, property was nice. Had a nice stay. There were people in the room next to us being very loud up until after midnight. I called the front desk and they sent security. Took about 20-30 minutes but they finally got the people next door to be quiet. Wait staff at restaurant were very friendly, Breakfast the next morning wasn't the greatest, but it's free. Hotel staff very friendly and accommodating. Overall the room was very nice and clean. TV remote only worked if you used the down channel button, but not a big deal.

    « Great Experience »

Room was immaculate and service was excellent. This is a nice, quiet, hotel. No glamour, just comfortable surroundings and friendly, helpful people. Great location just outside of downtown Tucson and not far from the freeway, but you'd never know in your room. Perfect for business or quiet pleasure. Could not have been more pleased.

Have never stayed in Tucson before - this hotel was reasonable, rooms are updated and clean. Restaurant on site has good food and service. Hotel was not far from freeway - easy access. Would recommend for short stays.

« Great place to stay »

My room was upgraded to suite. The TV Remote in the living room did not work because the batteries were dead. The clerk from the front desk delivered and installed fresh batteries within minutes. This was not the first time this hotel, nor will it be the last.

« Stayed here over the Thanksgiving holidays. »

Overall, I was very pleased with my stay here. The room was clean and comfortable. The front desk staff were very nice and hopeful and came down to the room the first night to show us how the heater worked. Enjoyed the free breakfast every morning. There is some train noise but, for the most part, I would stay here again.

    3
« Clean, courteous, and convenient. »

Fast friendly service. Clean simple environment. Good location and close to lots of things. A jacuzzi tub was a nice free upgrade. Seemed to be quiet even with kids around the area. The front desk lady called to check and see if we found, and got into our room ok.

    4
    « Good Value / Updated »

It's obvious that they've worked hard to update the property. It's convenient between I-10 and UofA, which is why I picked it. The walls are still a little thin, but they do provide disposable ear plugs. After 10pm everything was fairly quiet and I was able to get a good nights sleep. The staff at the front desk were friendly, and the server at the restaurant made you feel instantly welcome. The complimentary breakfast had 10 options - much more and better than I expected. I'll be back the next time I'm staying in Tucson.

    « Excellent stay »

We were a little surprised because the area around the hotel didn't look too good but the hotel and restaurant staff were one of the best we have encountered. We really enjoyed the pool and hot tub. We would definetly be back and recommend the hotel to family and friends.

This was the most syrprising hotel in our present trip. The site is beautiful, the room is vast beatifully and comfortably furnished. Pity we spent only one night. Above all: Service is superb. « Best Western Royal Sun Inn & Suites »

We had a short stay, hotel was pleasant. My 'regular' Tucson hotel was booked, chose this one because it had recently been redecorated - very nice inside the room., the grounds were nicely kept up and clean. Wasn't certain about staying so close to downtown, but all was fine. The breakfast selections included in the room rate is great. Very good and friendly man waited on us. The front desk was very friendly and helpful.

« fantastic stay at a value hotel »

When I was booking this hotel I was just looking for a place to sleep for the night that was reasonably priced, safe, and had standard amenities. This place exceed those expectations. The room I got for the price (around $100) was a fantastic king sized suite with lots of room. Their on site restaurant was also a very nice surprise. It was not only convenient but the quality of food was what you would find at a mid to mid-upper tier restaurant but the prices were not.

« Close to downtown and very helpful staff! »

We booked this room last minute and I was hopeful that it would be a good choice based on the reviews. However, there was a really really bad smell in our room. We were only there for a short time and it was ok for the time we were there, but the smell was really bad. On a positive note, my mom left her watch on the sink of the room. It was a watch my dad gave her last year for their 50th Anniversary and she was devastated. We called twice. The first time, the watch had not been turned in. I called again and they said they had left a message for the head of housekeeping. We offered a reward for the return of the watch. They called later and advised the watch had been found. When we returned to pick up the watch, they would not take the money my mom offered as a reward. I can't express how much we appreciate that they found the watch and returned it!

« Great Hotel at Great Rate »

Just returned from a 3 night stay here in Tucson and I couldn't be happier. This property is located just north of the city center and has a lot going for it. Well appointed rooms that look to have been recently redone. We had the Standard King room with a refrigerator and It was excellent. The bed was very comfortable with nice linens and we both slept well. The room was nicely appointed with a comfortable chair and ottoman (wish there had been 2). A nice desk and chair and a small refrigerator. A couple of complaints about the television. Flat screen lcd's are great if they are appropriately sized for the room. This was something like a 32" and would recommend at least a 40". Also, when you have lcd tv's please provide HD viewing (first world problem). The complimentary breakfast is not to be missed. You actually get to order off the menu and have a prepared meal served by a smiling server. Be sure to tip your server. This is not a "box of cereal and container of yogurt" place. It's a restaurant and nice one at that. They also have 2 for 1 drink coupons for the evening crowd and have karaoke on the weekends. Don't miss it! My recommendation for "older folks" like me is that you request a ground floor room since hauling heavy luggage up the stairs is quite a chore. I will definitely stay here again in the future.

    « Great location »

My son and I stayed at this hotel to visit the University of Arizona. It was located in a great location and the price was right. The hotel staff was great and restaurant and bar next door was good. Not fancy, but that's not what we were looking for. I would definitely recommend this hotel,

    4
« A great place for the price »

The staff was very friendly and room was much more than I expected for the price. Even though it's located on a busy street, it was much quieter than I expected. Their complintary breakfast was better than the standard hotel self serve. It was cooked to order and served fast.

    3
    « Bed too hard »

I've not slept in a worse bed. The light switches for the shower/toilet area and the sink area are reversed left/right compared with the areas the switches control. Ear plugs are provided due to the proximity to a rail line.

    « Great Hotel »

This hotel was easy to find and get to from the freeway with a billboard giving directions. It's on the road leading to the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum and Saguaro National Park so it's very convenient. I can't eat the breakfast at most hotels because I am gluten-free but here I had fruit, eggs, hash browns. The staff were cheerful and attentive and friendly from the front desk to the cafe. It was cheaper than most, as well. Highly recommended.

« Great Hotel Consistantly Excellent »

Our experience with our room, food and staff were excellent as usual EXCEPT for the redo of the lounge.. too bright, color wrong, floors wrong, no character, guests intimidated walking in, lighting needs redoing, get some down lighting in. TOO loud, put up soundproofing get rid of spot lights or turn onto walls not on tables, I was blinded. You better do something quick I hated having dinner there with a singer blasting his favorite hits. clattery sounding. Although dated at least the original had wonderful character, this looks like an operative theater, all we need are tables and bodies. Someone really did not know what they were doing. My husband is an interior designer who saw the before and after and was appalled. Hope the restraurant comes out better although it does not look like it. with the excellent chef you have please make the place more upscale and appealling not so sterile. A big disappointment. I will come back next year and hopefully these issues will all be resolved as everything else is absolutely terrific.

The internet site showed what appeared to be a top quality hotel. The room upon check in was very nice, newly renovated, It is big, and clean. The room unfortunitly had a strong odor of mildew coming from the bathroom area. The hotel is located near a train track, which had trains passing about every half hour through out the night blaring a horn every pass. Light sleepers will be disturbed. The bed pillows were very small, and hard. The breakfast is at an adjacent resturant, menue only, no juice if you want coffee or tea. No extras, or muffins. Just set menue selections. Not what we expected.

« We stayed going to Dallas & we're coming back! »

Well, I'm writing this review again, because the hotel I'm staying at in Grapevine Texas has the WORST Internet service and I lost my review. So here I am writing this review on my cell. I read the reviews, knew what to expect, in regards to the train. So when we arrived, I couldn't understand why ear plugs were provided in our room - I forgot. So there's several trains that pass by the hotel at night - use the earplugs. It would be nice if the hotel had a sign to let you know why those plugs are there. But what the hotel does do, is call you to see if your room is alright. I've stayed a 5-star hotels & they don't call and some really should. The hotel gave us 2 vouchers for free bar drinks and 2 vouchers for free breakfast. At the time of this review the restaurant is being remodeled, so you eat in the bar - no problem. My dinner consisted of a nice salad, BBQ Beef, asparagus and a baked potato. This meal was top-notch. Almost too much food for me. The drinks were well made. Our server, Heather was attentive and she can make a wonderful drink. The hotel offers 10 free breakfast items, I had fruit and yogurt - I received a good portion of yogurt + a lot of fruit. We met gentleman from Australia and we had a nice time. Our room was clean, large and quite, except for the train. Enjoy your stay and say hi to Heather and the girls. We plan on staying here on our return trip, so I'll write another review and we'll see if my comments are consistant. Read my next article on the Gaylord in Grapevine - you already know their Internet isn't up-to-par.

    « Rock and gem »

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend during the Rock and gem show. The hotel itself is pretty decent, the room was spacious and clean. The walls however are paper thin, we could hear our neighbors talking at a normal voice level like we were all in the same room. Otherwise this hotel for the price is conveniently located and easy to find, I would stay here again. Just don't walk through the park across the street after dark!

    « Excellent value hotel »

We stayed here for two nights as a base to visit Tombstone and the Sonoran Desert Museum. The hotel was clean & well equipped, the breakfast was very good (Apart from the very dilute orange juice) and all the staff were friendly & helpful. The location is OK and 4th street is walkable but other areas need to be driven or cabbed to. The traffic noise was more of a problem than the train for me but as we were looking to make an early start each day this was not an issue. Overall a pleasant stay & I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel.

Basically a good hotel with standard amenities and rooms and friendly staff. Close to the highway so easy to access the downtown and the road to the airport. But the problem is that the hotel is close to the train tracks and the trains are extremely noisy at night. The noise woke me up several times.

I booked 3 rooms for my family & was so embarrassed of this hotels location. I thought we were in a ghetto. There were derelicts walking around & homeless people walking & sitting on street corners. I would not recommend families to stay here...it was not a safe area. I was very disappointed when we arrived & decided to return home. I don't see how it got a 4 star rating!!!!!

« Good value, friendly staff »

We found the staff to be friendly, courteous and willing to go out of their way to accommodate any reasonable needs. The rooms were clean and offered more than ample space. The restaurant was under renovation so drink and breakfast coupons were offered which was a very fair trade off. The property is reasonably close to UA which was the purpose of our visit. I would certainly stay at this property again.

Hotel was very pleasant; have stayed here 4 times before. The Internet is good and easy to use; the restaurant was under construction, but didn't matter - food was very good and bar atmosphere nice. We loved Hannah in the restaurant as well as the front desk folks. Beds are nice, rooms are clean, great experience!

    « Nice stay »

We booked this room through a 3rd party cause the rate was right. I have been watching the rates on this hotel and they really seem to fluctuate according to events in the area. The staff was pleasant and even called our room about 15 minutes after arriving to make sure everything was ok. Room was clean and comfortable. The location is close to the freeway but not too close for noise. Close to the U of A campus. Not really close to restaurants although there is a restaurant on site. We did eat the complimentary breakfast and it arrived rather quickly. It worked well for us for a one night stay.

« Great Customer Service, but it is still a Best Western »

We were in town for Parents' Weekend at The University of Arizona, so hotel prices were a bit inflated. We weren't planning to spend much time at the hotel so we picked this one, but based on the photos and the reviews, I expected something a little more upscale. The room was beautifully decorated and very clean, but some of the photos make the pool and the common areas look a lot nicer than they are. The customer service was EXCELLENT which made up for the short-comings, but it is very close to the train tracks so with the window open, we could hear the hourly train throughout the night. My husband was very happy at the hotel and would stay there again, but it wasn't what I expected.

We Have used Best Western Plus exclusively for the past several years, and we have stayed at this unit once before. Our one complaint would be: baath tubs are not available in standard rooms. My wife was really looking forward to using one since we do not have a tub in our retirement center apartment. The location of this unit is easy to access from the freeway . Also, the locstion mskes it esdy o sccess many of the popular attractions of Tucson.

« Great Place to Stay While In Tucson! »

I was participating as a vendor at a health fair in Tucson and needed a place to stay near the venue. Relying on TripAdvisor reviews I booked the Best Western Royal Sun Inn & Suites. Check in was smooth, and the clerk, Angela, was pleasant and helpful. We asked her for a steakhouse restaurant recommendation and she gave us a great one. She warned us about the neighborhood it was in but said the food was really, really good. She gave us great directions and also gave us her card in case we got lost. We have navigation on our phones and tablet, but it was a nice gesture! The room looked as if it has been newly redecorated. Everything is fresh and clean. Nice little extras like face cleansing cloth, shoe shiner, and two sets of earplugs. There was a train in the distance that I could hear quite well, so the earplugs are definitely a nice thing to have! I discovered I'd left my toothbrush in my haste to get on the road, and much to my delight, the front desk had complimentary toothbrushes and toothpaste! There's a nice spacious desk area in the room and also a small table and two chairs in the corner. The mattress was a little firmer than I like but it was still, for the most part, comfortable. A complimentary, cooked-to-order breakfast was served in the lounge (the restaurant was closed for remodeling) and there were 10 different breakfasts to chose from. I chose the Royal Start breakfast which included 2 eggs, choice of meat, choice of either hash browns or home fries, and choice of either toast or pancakes, plus one beverage of your choice included - quite a hearty breakfast for free! The breakfast was very good and I appreciated that the eggs were fresh - not powdered. Overall, I was very impressed with this Best Western property. It's definitely run well and the employees are well-trained, friendly, and competent and I would definitely stay here again if I had to travel again to Tucson for business.

    « Great location!!!!! »

I found this place to be a great location to get to anywhere in and around the Tucson area. Three minutes from the 10 Fwy ( they call it the North Fwy - ? ). Go straight down N Stone and you're in downtown proper in less then five minutes. The rooms are very clean and updated. Very friendly and helpful staff. Not sure where to eat, just ask them. Their restaurant and bar are both being remodeled but should be done soon. This place offers a free "full breakfast" every morning if you are staying there. The only issue I had with this eco friendly place is since they have only non smoking rooms, people tend to sit outside their rooms and smoke and this is a very very bad thing. I complained to the front desk and was told that this info would be passed on to the management. All they need to do is get rid of the plastic chairs and small table in front of each room and set up a designated smoking area, even with this issue I'd recommend this place for the location and I'm sure that the management will address this smoking issue as they are very environment conscious.

I had to go to Tucson for a course, and I wanted to explore the Downtown 4th Ave. area during the evenings. This hotel was only a short walk away from the downtown area, was reasonably priced, and had good reviews. While I was there the hotel restaurant was being remodeled, and they were serving breakfast in the bar area, but it was no problem at all, and the staff pulled it off without a hitch. The quality of the breakfast was really good, with lots of choice and all very well presented. The room was great, it was a really good size with a separate sitting area, a very comfortable bed, lots of pillows, very clean, fast internet, and lots of TV channels. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to explore the downtown area, or if you're just visiting Tucson. Definitely a great find and well worth checking out.

    « Surpizingly Lucky Choice »

We needed a place close to a downtown event and chose this motel. It was a very lucky choice. Even though the building is older, it has obviously been renovated on the inside. The rooms were modern with all the amenities you would expect. The bathroom had also been redone. The breakfast was more than just a buffet. There were ten breakfasts on the menu to choose from and you received a restaurant style meal. There was even a two-for-one drink coupon offered. This was really a nice place to stay.
