    « Tranquil Refuge »

Tamarindo is a very popular little town, filled with tourists, shops, all sorts of cuisine...and lots of nightlife! Many nights it can be difficult to muffle out the music and party atmosphere in town. However, about 10 minutes out of Tamarindo (and close to many other beaches) is Best Western Camino. Situated in lovely setting with a nice quiet pool and restaurant|bar, this place is our refuge from the hustle and bustle. The staff are friendly and helpful, and most speak English very well. The owner, Rita, is usually on-sight and ready to offer assistance and advice, and the same goes for the manager (ask him what town he lives in). The rooms have comfy beds, air conditioning, good showers, Wi-Fi and TV. Highly recommend staying there!

« You would never know it from the road.... »

.....but this place is gorgeous. Quaint and unassuming with a great pool and gorgeous landscaping. The food is fantastic... paradise for the price of a small town Motel 6.. This place exemplifies pura vida!!

« Best Western at its Best! »

Intro --------- We have stayed before in Huacas but did not stay at Best Western Camino a Tamarindo. But as I had seen a number of very good reviews about it and we would be travelling with friends, we decided to stay here. And we were very happy we did! I do want to start off by saying that this hotel is not a common hotel in the sense that there's a big building with a lot of rooms. It's more like cabins. They are well built, and even though they are built together you get more a feeling of having a separate little cabin. Quality of the cabins, is very good, maintenance as well. Being a Best Western (part of the Best Western Chain) is also good. Website -------------- This hotel can be found in all places you can imagine. Almost all big online booking sites will have them. You can find them through Best Western sites and they of course have their own web site. Combining all of these places for information and a huge number of reviews, photos and videos you will get a very good picture of the hotel. Booking ---------------- The hotel can be found in most of the online booking sites/services. You can book directly online without contacting them. Payment ------------- Payment can be done using almost all bigger online hotel booking sites. Fast and Easy! You can also pay at the hotel using cash or credit card. Location -------------- The websites have directions on how to get to the hotel as long as you can find Huacas, you'll have no problems finding this hotel. Important to know is that the hotel is located a bit inland, so there is no walking, riding a bike to the beach. You really should have a car if staying here. The location is also a bit outside the small town of Huacas and not much of neighbors. So there's really not much to do around the hotel. A couple of hundreds of meter towards Huacas you can find a local store with basic groceries. Driving some 10 minutes towards the beach you'll find an ok mall with a modern, big supermarket, some smaller stores and bank services. Between the hotel and Huacas you can pay a visit to La Boya waterpark for some more advanced splashing (especially if you have kids) and that is about it. My firm recommendation is that the location is perfect for relaxing and/or driving to the beach. Front Desk -------------- Located directly inside the doors of the main building, straight in from the road. Spacious, clean, refreshing and with plenty of spaces to sit while waiting for people to check in and out. They also sell cold beverages in the reception at good prices. This became a bit of a salvation as this hotel did not have a fridge in the rooms as most hotels have. Breakfast ---------------- The breakfast was very good and is served in their amazing restaurant. Big, well ventilated, good furniture and we loved eating just a couple of meters from the pool. Packages - Tours --------------- The staff can give directions and help Hotel and Rooms --------------------------- We had a room (cabin) with a kingsize bed. As far as I know, the rest of the room is the same where they have queen size beds or single beds. Spacious, clean, well maintained, well lit, tv, bathroom very nice. Bed was very good quality as was linen and towels. Pool ------------ The hotel has a very nice pool just at the center of the cabins. One of the best pools I've seen in a hotel anywhere. Big, clean, a bit deeper than normal and it runs from one side of the grounds (where you have access to furniture to sit) all the way up to the floor of the restaurant. Even some underwater chairs creating a kind of pool bar (no pool level space for employees outside the bar though, so doing business will have to be done with people standing beside the pool). Wifi ----------------- Was quite good. Free and covered most places you may visit on and around the hotel. Wheelchair Access --------------------------- This hotel is wheelchair accessible. Not all cabins but many of them could be used by a person in wheelchair, all by themselves. But do verify with the hotel to be sure! In Room ----------------- Our room (1 kingsize) had everything you'd look for in a good accommodation. Tv, cable, wifi, good A/C, ceiling Fan, lots of space, safe (see comment further down). The quality of the room, walls, ceiling and even the woodwork outside was well maintained, well painted and looked close too new. Everything was working as it should and we found nothing broken or in need of repairs. Safe ------------- The room had a safe. I do not want to give it full points though. Too small for my taste (not laptop size). Tablet, small camera, wallet, passports and some other small stuff could be stored there. I do have one big negative about it and that was the location. There was a shelf beside the bed, like nightstand. This safe was located under the shelf. This made it necessary for us as well as the people travelling with us to lay down on the floor to operate it. Younger persons could just hunch down but when your eyesight is a bit bad and you have problems standing with your head between your knees for a while, dropping to the floor is a better solution! Cleaning --------------- The cleaning was top notch. The daily cleaning was probably better than what most hotels do between customers! Restaurant ----------------- Very good. Not the biggest selection of plates but we probably had all different plates during our stay and all of them were well prepared, tasty and left us with a happy smile on our face. The prices were ok as well and on the lower level than expected for being in a hotel restaurant (with few to none competing restaurants close by). The employees were at a good spirit and gave us very good service all through our stay. Employees ---------------- All employees at Best Western Camino a tamarindo we encountered made a very good impression. Courteous, hardworking, good quality of service and very friendly. All the way from the Gerente General (Señor Roberto), the ladies working at the reception, in the restaurant, to the maintenance and cleaning. Big muchas gracias y saludos from us all for taking care of us this june. Price Level ------------------ Price level is good to very good. This measured to other hotels in the same price range and the standard we have found there. I would actually go so far to say that we got more for the money here than in any other hotel we have stayed at. Overall Thoughts ----------------------- We loved our stay! I'd go back in a heartbeat. If I could get a bigger safe (moved to the big bathroom) and a small fridge to cool down something to drink, I'd say it is heaven on earth! But even without these changes this hotel will allow you to relax like a pro. Do note the location and surroundings above but besides this, 4 star all the way!

« Best kept secret in Tamarindo »

I have been in central America for the past 9 years and this is THE MOST PLEASANT AND PERFECT hotel I have stayed. It is a hidden gem that goes unseen, luckily I stumbled onto it last minute. It is immaculately clean and peaceful with a crystal clear pool. The new American owners are always present and extremely hospitable. Located just 5 minutes from Tamarindo and 10 minutes from the finest beaches in Costa Rica. The service and attention to guests is second to none. I was hesitant to write this review as I am sure that when guests try this hotel they will never go elsewhere and I will have a hard time Booking a reservation!! Thank you Rita and all the great staff here. See you on my next trip.

    « A quick visit a very good impression »

I was in Tamarindo with my sister and we had breakfast in this hotel a couple of times. We had the chance to visit the rooms and to spend some time with the owners. It was a really beautiful experience and the breakfast was awesome. Being there during the costarican "low season" everything was calm and cozy. Definitely an experience that I would like to repeat.

    « Meh »

Our room was an ocean view room. Beautiful view but could have been a little bit cleaner. Worst bed I have ever slept on and I'm not picky. I mean, I have been sleeping in a van for the last two weeks that was better. Also, you can hear your neighboring rooms quite well. The complimentary breakfast was also weak. The guy who runs the surfboard rental shop was super cool and nice, free surfboards with room and easy walk to beach. Everyone that works here was also very friendly.

« Safe haven in Costa Rica »

The service is above and beyond. The management and staff made our group from Texas feel at home away from home. The rooms are spacious and nice. There is free wifi. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at their restaurant pavilion and the food is great and includes plenty of local dishes! The pool is resort style and huge! I highly recommend staying here if you are anywhere in the area for great customer service and experience.

« Chill Zone in Costa Rica »

This hotel is a great place to kick back and relax as you explore this beautiful country. The staff is wonderful and accommodates your every need, the pool is relaxing, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is one of tranquil escape. Definitely a place to visit if you are looking to escape the craziness of every day life.

    « Jungle paradise »

The location was close enough to the beach to visit easily, yet far enough away to escape the large tourist crowds. The pool was large and clean, perfect for relaxing in the sun or shade. The meals were delicious. The staff were amazing, going out of their was to be considerate and make our stay as enjoyable as possible. If for no other reason, stay at this hotel for the caring staff. Definitely planning on staying here again.

« Amazing Staff and Service »

Rita and her staff made us feel right at home. Every detail was taken care of with detail. We loved the breakfast including farm fresh fruit poolside! Rooms were comfortable with super cold AC, vaulted ceilings, and front porches. At first I was disappointed with the location was not close to a beach. However, soon discovered it was 10 minutes halfway between a couple great beaches and adventure locations. So the location away from the beach in the middle of it all turned out to be A-ok.

    « BEST VACA EVER »

The pool is gorgeous! The staff is so sweet!! Rita is the most amazing women ever! (Rita is the owner) the food is spectacular! The rooms are spacious and the air in the rooms is nice and cold! The scenery around is so nice! Sitting areas every where!

    « Great place »

Rooms were big and clean. Breakfasts were lovely. Pool area was fantastic. It was a great place to recover from the jet lag of travelling from London the night before. My fiancee and I had a fantastic time.

    « Peaceful Location »

This is a lovely small hotel about 5 minutes outside of Tamarindo. Each room is a little cabana around a very large swimming pool, with a small covered patio looking onto the pool and restaurant area. Breakfast is included. The hotel is relaxing and very quiet, even though its on the highway. The pool is a great size and good for swimming laps or just floating.

« Good hotel but lacking in transportation »

Despite reading other reviews prior to booking, the lack of a shuttle was somewhat of an annoyance. That aside, it was a lovely place to stay. The front desk staff was warm and friendly, especially Cindy and we're always willing to call me a taxi into town (my only option since I was not brave enough to rent a car.) The pool is beautifully maintained and the rooms are clean and comfortable with hot showers and cool air conditioning. I wouldn't mind staying here again but I wonder if it would be worth it to charge a few more dollars and offer some type of taxi service? The inclusive breakfast was quick and tasty though the service in the restaurant was more passable than friendly, except for one gentleman I only saw twice. Overall if you are just passing through Tamarindo, I would recommend this place.

    « Home base »

Convenient location to head out for day trips to beaches and tours Several delicious choices for complimentary breakfast served in a lovely open-air dining room by gracious servers Stepped out of our clean, comfortable room onto our small private patio a few steps from the beautiful pool

    « Highly Recommended!!! »

We stayed at Best Western Camino for 1 week from Jan 13 -20, 2016. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality , service and convenience of the Hotel. Ideally located 10 minutes outside of the bustling surf town of Tamarindo and within 20 minutes of the beautiful beaches of Playa Grande, Playa Conchal, and Playa Flamingo. You will need to take a taxi or rent a car to tour from this location but both are easily accessible. It is an ideal location for a home base for a lot of the local tours and activities. Hotel is a beautiful little oasis with a great pool and restaurant. The grounds are beautiful, clean and well taken care of. Rooms are clean and ample. Wi-Fi worked well in all locations around the hotel. Staff is knowledgable and helpful with a special shout out to the Manager, Roberto, and new Owners, Richard & Rita, for all the assistance and help they provided. Dylan was also very helpful. Food in the restaurant is very good, and the large pool was great to lounge in and cool off. We recommend this hotel and would gladly return anytime.

    « Fantastic pool »

Very nice hotel, clean and very well looked after. It is not in the town site of tamarindo it is about ten minutes out do great if you have a car. Shuttle bus also an option. At first was disappointed that we were not in tamarindo, but after going to the town site was very glad the hotel was out of town. The staff were great and the food at the restaurant was very good. Breakfast was included and you orders from the menu no buffet for breakfast which was great.

« Much better than expected! »

My wife and I booked a room at this motel as we were attending a wedding in Tamarindo, It is located about 10 km outside the town. We took a cab to and from Tamarindo : cost 5000 colones. The swimming pool and grounds were amazing. A huge pool, immaculately maintained. The grounds surrounding the rooms are filled with tropical plants and trees. While the room was average, the ac worked well and the bathroom facilities were fine. We had a king bed. Breakfast was included. Excellent coffee (as expected in Costa Rica) and you order your breakfast off the menu so eggs, toast bacon if you wish. Our room was totally quiet, and this was a Saturday night! The management were friendly and attentive. We were able to check in at noon which we appreciated. Our total cost was $113 U.S. taxes in.

« Not recommended for Tamarindo tourists. »

First of all: If you are trying to stay OUTSIDE the city. Then this review is not for you. BUT: IF you are like me, and you like to stay in the actual city and within walking distance to all the restaurants and the beach... Then read on. Upon arrival to this hotel, I thought my shuttle driver surely was at the wrong hotel. I will say that I booked this hotel on Priceline.com and the location map on Priceline for this hotel was WAY wrong. (That is aother issue I am currently trying to deal with Priceline about. Also, NEVER BOOK WITH PRICELINE). We walked into the lobby. Noticing that the hotel is still undergoing construction in certain areas. We were greeted by a man (Dilan?). When we asked how far away we were from the city he told us it was a 15 minute cab ride. We were NOT okay with that. The Priceline site showed us that this location was actually within walking distance to the main beach. We were so upset. Dilan mentioned that there was another Best Western that WAS actually in Tamarindo on the beach. We asked if he could call them to see if they had a room. He seemed irritated, dialed the number, and handed the phone to us (instead of dealing with it for us). Long story short. We booked a room at the other Best Western (will talk about this one at the end.) and we cancelled our stay. They charged us a 1 night penalty. And THEN... We asked how to get to Tamarindo. Dilan said he would call us a cab. 20 minutes later, when the "cab" arrived. We realized it wasn't a cab at all. Dilan had called his friend to come take us in for $10. The whole thing was really frustrating, especially for our first time in Costa Rica. (We later learned that there aren't very many real cabs in Tamarindo. Most are unmarked. But once we were at the other Best Western Vista Villas, we were able to walk everywhere anyway.) All that being said. Moral of the story: DO NOT BOOK ON PRICELINE DO NOT stay at the BEST WESTERN CAMINO A TAMARINDO if you plan on being close to everything (and not having to pay a $10 "cab" both ways every time you go somewhere) BUT definetely DO: Stay at the Best Western VISTA VILLAS. -The location was PERFECT. (right across the street from the beach and walking distances to all stores, bars, restaurants). -The staff was amazing!! SO helpful and friendly -It was clean and the rooms were awesome (definitely spend more for an ocean view room...so worth it.)

« A very good value, clean, comfortable stay »

We were absolutely shocked by tamarindos sky high accomodation prices, so when we came across this hotel we thought we'd give it a go because it was so well priced. Very happy we did. It's not fancy, but it's clean, well maintained and very tranquil. The pool is great and the staff are accomodating. Only negative is the breakfast - quite frankly, it's absolutely terrible - the worst we've had on our 7 week trip. Despite that, still a great hotel at great price!

« Beauty and Tranquility ..... with wonderful service »

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in early January this year, for seven days ...and truly enjoyed our time. At first, we thought we were alittle too far from town (Tamarindo), maybe 3-4 miles, but soon determined it was far better being where we were. Tamarindo is a busy little town, and we felt it was nice to go in for the day or night and then come back to our secluded piece of paradise. We enjoyed our stay immensely, partly due to the exceptional service we received from all at BW Camino a Tamarindo. Everyone was always willing to help, and extremely friendly. Special thanks to Roberto and the owners, Richard and Rita. To them, a special "good luck" in their new expansion. Breakfast was always delicious .... and the flora on the property grounds was so diverse and interesting for those of us from the NE of USA. Again, a great stay ..... and we would stay at the BW a Camino again. Best to all there .... Peter and Brenda Matrigali NYC

    « An real discovery. »

Both the country and the hotel were a revelation for me. It is my first time in Costa Rica and it certainly won't be my last. The hotel was a chance I am so glad I took. The staff particularly the management could not have been friendlier and more helpful The rooms and resort is spotless. I found the size of the rooms more than adequate and facilities very good.

« Hidden Gem great for peace and quiet but close enough to action »

We stayed for 2 days at the beginning of January and would have loved to stay longer if our plans had allowed it. We will be staying here again next trip to Tamarindo as the location is romantic and quiet and only a $10 cab ride to the beach. This way you can have both the quiet and the action when required. Fabulous grounds and environment

« Ate at the Restaurant »

I didn't stay here but I did stop to eat at the restaurant. This place is real hidden gem! The grounds are gorgeous! I was very surprised (in a good way) to see this place. It does not look like much from the road but let me tell you, it's a hidden gem! The breakfast was really good. I was impressed with the menu. I had the traditional breakfast (I love the local breakfast in Costa Rica) and my friend had the "American". They also serve lunch and dinner. They have a full bar, but I didn't take part in that as I was getting back on the road. It's a great place to come eat and take a break. If I had more time I would have spent the night. I will be back! Everyone was very friendly and from what I could see, the rest of the guest were having a very good time.

    « What a great place »

This hotel is a gem. It is about 10 minutes from the city but well worth the drive. The staff is super friendly and the owners are the kindest people you will ever meet. I would not hesitate to go back, (and can't wait to) or tell others to stay here. It was one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. If you stay here tell them Jim sent you.

« Nice hotel with a beautiful pool »

Very nice hotel with small, but cute territory and really cool swimming pool! We enjoyed it very much: you can swim in big& nice pool, you can eat tasty breakfast(big variety) and dinner (pasta is just perfect). Nice cozy rooms with AC ( Just perfect at +43...). And it's not far from small awesome beach Conchal

« The staff go above and beyond expectations, they were fantastic!!! »

My daughter was travelling alone in Costa Rica at the end of an internship. She was robbed of everything except her passport at a nearby bus station. The staff at this hotel bent over backwards to help her, feed her, and get her on a bus the next day. They even went so far as to personally walk her to the bus stop at 5:30 am! I don't know what we would have done without their kindness and efforts. She slept safely that night thanks to the staff! My daughter also said that it was a very nice hotel. Clean, and comfortable. Nice pool area. Restaurant was good too. I don't know how to thank them, we will be forever grateful!

    « VERY NICE SURPRISE »

Doesn't look like much from the road- but drive back in and you are suddenly in an oasis- very nice setting, beautiful pool! Rancho with bar and VERY NICE restaurant- and QUIET. Much better to stay here just 7 or 8 minutes from hustle and bustle and NOISE of Tamarindo- the Best Western in town is way too noisy! Rooms are way above average, nice porch with sitting-spacious and very modern bathroom with big walk-in shower- very nice touches. A true bargain at this price point- better than others where I have paid twice as much. American owners Richard and Rita are there to serve you and are very nice people- seem to really care about your needs and comforts- unlike many hotels at this price range I have stayed at during my 17 years of travelling around Costa Rica.

    4
« Relax on the outskirts of town »

The location, in the outskirts of town is OK if you have a car. It was't a problem for us to drive into Tamarindo for dinner but felt parking was a bit of a pain. The rooms are spacious with very high ceilings and a private veranda which feels nicely secluded from the beach area if you need some alone time. The food for breakfast was fine, the coffee good.

    4
    « Well located & nice »

This hotel is on the main road in Huacas, with an excellent location to get quickly on the road & explore other beaches; the busy town of Tamarindo is still close by but you will not have the noise or fight the crowded & busy street. Rooms are spacious enough, clean toilets & a big & firm bed; the pool is lovely & clean. Breakfast is included in the reasonable rate & you will count with a friendly staff & good service.

    « A Little Jewel »

Awesome little hotel!! The staff was extremely friendly and really tried to make our stay special. The biggest surprise is the pool, it is huge and the landscaping beautiful. Our room faced the pool area, very pretty. The rooms were clean and had all the amenities we needed. And most importantly the A/C worked like a dream! Breakfast is included with your stay, great local fair and familiar breakfast items as well. The owner, Rita, is an amazing baker and there is always something special from her kitchen on the menu. You get way more for your money here.

    « Great Little Treasure »

Great little hotel with an amazing pool and resturant. Wasn't sure what to expect but glad we decided to stay there. You can't beat a clean room, cold AC, hot water, WiFi and breakfast included all at a reasonal price.
