"Outstanding!"
travelinman045, 13 Octobre 2018

Wow! What a great stay. Beautiful building. Blend of new and old. Reception was fast and friendly. Room came with extensive dinner buffet and breakfast. All the food was top notch and locally sourced. There were plenty of choices and lots of it. Room was modern and comfortable. By far best value at any stay we"ve had in Norway. Great job.

"Pretty building, good service"
ScratchMap, 15 Septembre 2018

Stayed at this place for a couple of nights because of a large ceremony in our family. The hotel is nice, I liked the decoration and style, the breakfast was great, and the rooms are OK. Steinkjer isn't really "the place to be", but if you're passing by, this hotel will provide a nice stay.

"Damaged by the hottest summer ever"
kekker, 05 Août 2018

So stayed here for the second time, with the significant better half. And sorry to say, that it was an huge disappointment. First of all, the room was way to hot, and if the staff had opened the windows before our arrival, it would have helped. We requested fans, which they tell about in the hotel folder, and they only had two small heatingfans left, which we run in neutral, then it somewhat gave a mild breeze in the room, during the night. But we had to argue with the staff, to get some fans, they could have offered us another room, on the other side, which would be colder.. The other thing that ruined this visit was the heat in the breakfastroom.. The food more or less swimmed arround in it's own sweat.. Not so funny, and I don't like to sweat during my breakfast.. They could have done this better with opening doors and windows into the breakfastroom, but they chose not to.. All inn all, the hotel can't be blame for the hot summer, but they could have managed it much better!

"Best in Steinkjer?"
Peter N, 30 Juillet 2018

The tourist information center in Steinkjer advised there are only two hotels in town - Best Western and Quality. Best Western was a bit cheaper and included buffet breakfast and dinner, so seemed the better deal overall. There was also the option of a cabin at the camping ground, but that was a bit further away than I wanted to walk with my suitcase and other luggage. I was happy with with my room, which was small but had everything I needed for a short stay of two nights. Lots of natural light. It would have been even better with a proper place to put my suitcase, rather than on the floor. The staff were friendly and helpful.

"Fit for purpose "
Charlinew123, 28 Mai 2018

We stayed here for one night in passing. Great as a pit stop, but wouldn't want to stay much longer. The room was big, clean and had a comfortable bed. The bathroom was very dated, but perfectly functional. The hotel won't win any award for design or decor, but there's nothing wrong with it. Breakfast was the highlight of of our stay. There's an abundance of choice - both for hot and cold food and drinks. There's home made bread and crisp bread with gluten free options as well. I'd happily recommend this hotel for a night or two, but it's certainly not a holiday destination.

"Old fashion hotell, with an possitive touch!"
kekker, 15 Octobre 2017

Don't go to this hotel, if you're looking for the last trendy in interior design! The room i got was "old fashion", but in no way in bad condition. When i arrived at 23.00 the waffle maker was still running hot, and I had the possibility to make myself an waffle. At that time, my top priority was to find an bed. Anyway, as mentioned, old fashion, but good room. Large room, with a desk, tv, bathrom and minibar (!!). I opened the window, and slept through the night, with no bothering noice from the city outside. This hotel offers and afternoon buffet, but due to my late arrival, I wasn't able to test that one out. But if it's something close to the breakfast, it's more than enough. The breakfast was the top of this hotel, in my opinion. It wasn't the biggest buffet, neither the most "fancy". But the ingreient's was of an high quality, and tasted werry good. It was probably, egg, bacon and scrambled eggs somewhere, but I didn't test that. But the selection of bread, toppings and youghurt's was more than enough for me. As an little extra there was the possibility to make an waffle, so I finally had my waffle, before I had to check out. There is also the possibility to make yourself an lunchpack, if you pay aprox 70 NOK or 9/10 EUR. All in all, I think this is the best option for an hotel i Steinkjer, not that I have tested the other one, but the guy hwo tipped me told me to go here.

"best hotel in town, but then there are not many others."
Paul R, 25 Août 2017

What can you say about this place? nice staff, pleasant atmosphere, but hotel rooms which were designed, and furnished in the 70's! Pro's 1. Good Wifi, 2. Generally good value, and includes a buffet dinner (see below though) 3. Nice quiet location Con's. 1. Rooms are tired, they have not been updated in a long while, and feel very old compared to a lot of places. 2. Bathroom was small, and not up to the standards set elsewhere. 3. Dinner buffet is ok, but only one hot (mildly warm) option served, and the rest is cold buffet. 4. Breakfast - seemed to be what was left from the buffet the night before, and all pretty much still in the same place on the table. I would stay here again, but only based on the recommendations from people locally I spoke to who said its not as bad as the others!

"Good value stay"
Carol I, 03 Février 2017

We have stayed here 4 times now and with the evening buffet included, think it is good value. Positives: 1. The room was big, and had a minibar and Wi-Fi. 2. The evening buffet had a great deal of choice, some of the hot choices were not as good as previous visits, but there were enough other dishes to make up for that. 3. Breakfast buffet is always good. 4. There is a pot of waffle mix in reception so you make yourself a waffle whenever it suits you. Coffee is usually available in the corridor. 5. The fact that there is a wonderful set of standing stones in the shape of a ship - in the grounds. Niggles: What concerned me – and I put this in my review sheet when I left the hotel – was that it seemed as if the hotel was manned only by 2 staff (evening and at breakfast); the receptionist (friendly though he was) and the chef. Surely a Best Western hotel needs more front-of-house staff than that?

"Enjoyed my stay here"
Euro_Jon1234, 09 Décembre 2016

Best Western Tingvold was a great choice for a one night stopover in Steinkjer. Only downside was that it is a little far from the train station, and I had to embrace the strong winds and heavy rain for twenty odd minutes making my way here. Otherwise my stay would have been perfect. There are many coffee machines and tea making facilities in the hotel, and I appreciated the serenity of the hotel surroundings too. The hotel interior itself is charming and deserves its four stars rating. The pricing was very reasonable for Norwegian standards, as a complimentary evening buffet is available. There was still food even though I arrived after 2045 hours, which saved me the hassle of finding a restaurant in town. The dinner was enjoyable (especially the apple cakes). Note that cold drinks such as juices is chargeable during the evening buffet session, but not the breakfast session. The scrambled eggs were the best I have tasted in Norway thus far. It is a pity that there is nothing much to do in Steinkjer. It was only a stopover for me as I was travelling from the Lofoten Islandsin Nordland to Røros in Sør-Trondelag. Otherwise I will have extended my stay.

"High variability in rooms, lousy food"
jgfrsea, 14 Août 2016

The hotel is in a charming historic building and may be the best option in Steinkjer. We had 4 rooms in our party and some were much better than others. We also had a significant problem on check in--specific rooms we booked and confirmed over email, we're not available (e.g. Family room). Room 25 has 2 twin beds stacked end on end and is remarkably cramped. It was the same price as my parents' much larger room. At first I thought having dinner, in addition to breakfast, included in the price was quite a bonus. While Breakfast was ok, dinner was remarkably disappointing. There is a waffle maker and espresso machine in the lobby, which turned out to our preferred food choices. The staff is helpful, but overstretched given how much there is to do. Both nights we stayed had large groups for events and the staff seemed harried. Free wifi (that was generally speedy) was nice.

"Dog friendly"
Darren M, 06 Août 2016

Great location for people travelling with dogs. Short, quiet, charming walk into town. Large hot and cold choice for buffet. Comfortable clean large rooms. Coffee machine in the corridor. Large parking area.

"One of the best hotels in norway"
Frode S, 05 Août 2016

very friendly staff, vaffels in the respetion, free breakfest and late night meal. lots of viking history around. you can also sitt outside in the garden in the evning in summer and have a drink, its also a historic park at the hotell, + free parking

"Good hotel and extremely good service"
Eric N, 01 Août 2016

The hotell is fine. The architecture is a bit odd on the outside, but the interior is extremely fine and historical. The breakfast buffet is great, but this is to be expected in Scandinavian hotels. They do however also do a complimentary evening buffet, which I have never even heard of before. We missed the evening buffet as we arrived after it had closed. But that didn't stop the staff from making us a couple of delicious free sandwiches and serving us some of the hotel's own cured meat. For FREE! (We obviously paid for the beverages) The room was also fine, although the bathroom seemed a bit "institutional".

"Nice hotel away from the city centre"
Joan M, 05 Juillet 2016

Not easy to find but when we did arrive staff very helpful, room comfortable and very nice breakfast and evening buffet. Facilities to make drinks and waffles when you want and nice area to sit outside.

"The smell of waffels and great staff"
HegeMyggen, 29 Juin 2016

This is a hotel where you feel welcome! In the entrance-aera you can make your own waffels until 23.00 each night. We had two single rooms; both good space and clean. The evening buffet were good! Warm and cold food. Homemade lunch-cakes, crayfish, salmon etc etc. Kind of breakfast and dinner at the same time. All of the staff were nice and helpful. They also have a charger for electric cars. I do recommend this hotel, absolutely!

"Great Value"
EliasConstantos, 23 Octobre 2015

The hotel is located about 1.5Km from the town center, which is a easy 20 minute walk. Location is good and there is an outside area to use, if weather is good. Additional benefit is less city lights and building obstructions when watching Northern Lights (Steinjker seems a perfect place for this). Rooms were relatively small but quite nice, with good quality furniture and a comfortable bed. I had a single room and was lucky to also have a balcony (room 305). Bathroom was of a lower lever (shower with a curtain) but was very clean and nothing essential was missing. Breakfast was very good and the usual hotel offer is with dinner buffet included in the price (excluding drinks - available until 21:00 or 21:30, depending on the day). By all means, use it! Variety of food was good and the quality was excellent. Considering also the limited restaurant choices in Steinjker and their very high cost, dinning at the hotel is not only a very good choice, but also a big money saver. Please also note that you have everything you need to make your own waffles for free near the reception (until 23.00) and there is also a free coffee machine, available 24/7, in case you need a late cup of tea or coffee. Hotel stuff is very helpful, nice and efficient. Overall is a nice hotel, representing great value and in case you do not absolutely need to stay in the city center, this is definitely a very good place to stay in Steinjker.

"Single and English"
kathleena547, 16 Septembre 2015

I stayed in a single room which certainly was much bigger than some single accommodation l have stayed in. The food is excellent and the staff speak good english. It's about half an hour walk into Steinkjer. I would certainly recommend.

"Homely hotel"
grymatt, 05 Juin 2015

The first thing you notice when you come in is the smell of lovely homemade waffels, which gives the place a homely atmosphere. The service is good and you get a free dinner included in the price. The rooms are quite big and have nice beds. A good place to stay!

"Don't expect anything... and you wont get disappointed..."
Tobias_Norway, 16 Février 2015

With only two hotels to stay at in Steinkjer... I chose the one with best reviews... Well it's very old but reasonably clean. Dinner bufet was hopeless :( The rooms look like something from the early 80's and have the same standard as I had during my service in the army. Worn down but clean. Don't expect marbel and tiles on the bathroom ;) If coming here, don't bother think a bout a cozy night at the hotel, it's just a place to sleep. Make sure to remeber all you need of soap and stuff, since you'll find none in the room expect from a dispencer. If you need to, you'll survice it ;)

"Everything you need in a pleasant atmosphere"
BarleyBird, 06 Septembre 2014

"A little like home" is Tingvold's slogan, and that's how it feels. We have stayed at Tingvold before and enjoyed coming back, this time for three nights. It is a very comfortable and pleasant hotel with a relaxed and homely atmosphere. A wonderful feature is the generous evening buffet included in the room price. In addition to that, you can have coffee free at any time from the machines on several places in the hotel – and in the lobby there is even a waffle iron with batter so you can make your own waffle! Rooms are well equipped with free wi-fi, there is a nice terrace, location is a little off centre and therefore very quiet, free parking. Very good breakfast. Everything is nice at Tingvold, we will certainly be back on our next visit to Steinkjer.

"Where service is"
Frode I, 26 Juillet 2014

A weary traveller realizes it is not smart to drive much further, calls the nearest hotel he knows, and gets a room. He also realizes it is late, but asks anyway: "Do you think I might get a something to eat when I arrive?" On arrival, the receptionist sent me directly into the dining hall, having kept the evening buffet open for me alone, half an hour after it actually closed. That is how they do it here... :)
