« It is the Best! »

Staff are very welcoming and friendly, but the experience starts at booking, we were booking a king size bed, and was offered at no extra cost a massage chair (My wife has a back problem). Never had this offer from a hotel before. The room was pretty standard, the small kitchen had, Microwave, Fridge and Coffee maker, the usual soap and shampoo was also present in the bathroom but, also a make up remover for the ladies another first The bed was very comfortable, the TV was a very impressive 60" with cable, the WiFi worked very well with no bottle neck. This Hotel lives up to it's name, it tries and with the little extra's it is the BEST!

    « Great Stay ! »

I came here for the first time to have a night away with my niece and nephews . They loved it ! The beds were comfortable , the outdoor heated swimming pool that lights and the hot tub with a waterfall were big hits . We all enjoyed it very much . Check in was quick and friendly. And although I haven't had the breakfast yet , I'm sure it will be good from other reviews . It's exactly what I was looking for at the price point I was looking for . I will def come again .

    « Best Best Western »

The staff Megan and Brian were very friendly and helpful with all the guest that came through. They go above and beyond at this hotel to assist guests with any and all requests from toothbrushes to extra pillows to directions to the nearest restaurants. The room was modern and very clean. There was a massage chair in our room that was an added bonus. The hot tub with waterfall was relaxing and it was neat to swim in the heated pool while still being outside in October. I'd definitely recommend this hotel. They make your stay as convenient as they can for you.

    « Great place! »

The outdoor heated pool is awesome, the breakfast has a million options, and their rooms are slowly but surely getting renovated! From new carpets to new furniture. Not to mention their suites with the jacuzzi tubs, what a plus. And the staff is always super pleasant, we call this place our home away from home. :)

« great hotel only a little bit away from it all. ( just right ) »

I have stayed at this hotel for years. I like the facility, it is clean, quiet , beds very comfortable and the great staff and most rooms easy to get to , plenty of parking . Breakfast so buffet style is far superior too most. The price in the off season is very good and I prefer it...because less people. The restarting served ups great hamburger, cooked perfectly... so very nice hotel. and my grand son loves it !

    « Best hotel »

My family and I stayed here recently. We absolutely enjoyed our stay here. The staff were very friendly, polite , helpful, even the cleaning crew were nice! Everyone made us feel welcomed! It was awesome that everyone was so pleasant! The hotel was beautiful and the beds were so so comfortable! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone!

    « Relaxing »

Room was very clean and smelled great. After a long drive to get to my doctor's office, I especially appreciated the massage chair in our room. Staff were friendly, registration was quick. Breakfast was great.

    « Nice Hotel »

I stayed here on a sunday evening on a recent business trip. Great access off the turnpike with plenty of parking. I stayed in a king room. The bathroom was very clean and the room was nice. This hotel had the largest wide screen TV I have ever seen in a hotel room! I ate dinner at the lounge. The food was O.K. but the bartender was not very pleasant. I would stay here again.

« Convenient location and value for money »

Stayed here on a Friday night. The check in was efficient and the gentleman on the desk went out of his way to bring a luggage cart to the back entrance on the LL. Hotel is clean, quiet and has a number of features. The room had a frig and microwave. The continental breakfast was good but crowded when we arrived. Lots of tables, food was replenished as needed. Bacon, sausage, pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs, egg and cheese omelette, cereal etc. All hot and tasty. This is my 3rd time here but has been several years since and am still satisfied.

    4
    « Comfy clean room »

Affordable, nice staff, clean and comfy room. Parking and getting to the room was confusing and took awhile. Breakfast would have been good if there was enough seating or food. Good location and cookies during check in.

« Convenient to the airport, great value, always a do over »

We love this place for our first night's lodging whenever we spend our annual fall week in Maine and New Hampshire. Near the Portland airport, well priced and comfy, it's a bargain. Friendly service with plenty of room and more than ample parking. I like to rate things on whether or not they meet my expectations at the asking price, so the Merry Manor is not rated against a Four Seasons, and, it's not priced as if it were one.

    « Would stay again »

Hotel was dated and had a weird layout, but it was very clean. Staff was friendly & helpful and breakfast was better than average! The outdoor heated pool was nice, even in 55 degree weather! The Tempurpedic bed was nice to have & more comfortable than ours back home. Hotel location was easy to get to off the interstate and there's a convenient gas station next door. Would stay here again if ever in the area.

    5
    « Wonderful Stay »

The front desk was helpful at every turn. Checked in and needed to get to a Walmart and went online to get the address for our GPS. Suggestion to park in a lot just before Long Wharf for a daily rate of 10/12 dollars for the day as opposed to the garages that charge by the hour was appreciated! The Coffee and cookies were a treat. The room was clean and comfortable and the pool/spa clean. Anyone who complains about that free "continental" breakfast is crazy. Included corned beef hash, beans, eggs, bacon, sausage....pancakes, waffles and all other basic items....and everything was kept being replenished. I do admit the eating area was small, however, trays were provided and there was an area upstairs. It was a great value as a short drive to downtown Portland. We would stay there again!

    « Perfect location »

Just returned from a weekend at the Best Western Merry Manor Inn and had an excellent visit. Our room on the second floor was large, nicely decorated, quiet and comfortable. Complimentary coffee and cookies in the lobby at all times and a complimentary breakfast as well. We didn't use the outdoor heated pool or hot tub spas but they did look inviting. The front desk staff are courteous, cordial and ready to resolve any issues that may arise. The location is so convenient since it is right of the Maine Turnpike and close to the Maine Mall and several great restaurants. We would look forward to staying here again if we are the area.

    4
    « Convenient to Portland »

Its a nice alternative to staying near Portland (about a 7 minute drive to Commercial St.) without the high prices. Our room was located on the exterior section of the hotel. The room itself was a mix of dated furniture, modern charging usb/outlets and a flatscreen TV. The bathroom consists of the toilet and bathtub and its on the small side. Breakfast had a nice selection of hot (sausage, eggs, bacon, corn beef, waffles, pancakes) and cold items (cereal, yogurt, fruit). Staff was friendly and helpful.

    4
« Good value, minutes to Old Port District and easy highway access »

This hotel is very convenient to the highway, just off Rt 95 and 295. The room was clean and the enormous bed was very comfortable. My room, for about $100 p/night had a mini fridge (which could be useful) and came with continental breakfast that included eggs, waffles, toast, bacon, etc. There's also a restaurant on-site if you don't want to travel out and a convenient store/gas next door. It's a good value for one or two nights and I'd certainly stay at the Merry Manor again.

« Nothing Fancy! LOVE massage chair in room! »

Overall hotel is okay, breakfast is your standard food fare, nothing special, breakfast room is small and not laid out very well, but at least it is a complimentary breakfast. Did have an issue with someone using their key for our room and actually opening the door,! Then next morning housekeeping did the same without announcing they were coming in! Room was clean, shower head was great, the one thing I positively loved was the massage chair in the room, highlight of the stay!

    4
    « Great Value »

This motel features clean comfortable rooms. The room had a refrigerator and a microwave. There was an indoor jacuzzi and kiddie pool, as well as a heated outdoor pool. The outdoor pool was unique in that it could be entered from indoors. The front desk was extremely helpful. The free breakfast was excellent; featuring a large variety of items. All in all, a great value.

    « Amazing hotel »

We arrived at the hotel on Friday the 21st at 3am. We drove 7 hours from NJ for a long weekend in Portland. The employee at the desk was very nice at 3am and helped us check in fast so we could go to bed. Our room was clean and spacious. The bathroom was also spacious and clean. The hotel has hair dyers in the bathroom and supplies you with shampoo conditioner and soap. The free breakfast was great they have waffles, pancakes, eggs, cheese omelettes, bacon, sausage, bagels and toast. I may be missing some other stuff. They had juice machines, coffee makers, tea bags and a latte machine that didn't work very well and tasted bad. Just drink regular coffee! The pool was awesome! It was an outdoor heated pool with a hot tub. There are grills outside by the pool you could use but we went in October so it was a little cold to BBQ. There was a gas station and 7-eleven right next door. The restaurant next to the hotel was amazing. It's called the Maine Table. Drinks were well made and the lobster stew was the best we had! French onion soup wasn't good. Needs more beef favor! :-/ Overall I would stay here again. It was pretty close to everything and was right off the highway

« Large hotel, confusing layout, nice room design »

We returned to the Merry Manor Inn as it's a nice place to stay in Portland. It's a large hotel with plenty of parking. The layout of the hotel can be confusing if you're off in one of the far end wings. They'll give you a map of the hotel - hang onto it as you'll need it to find the breakfast room in the morning. There is an elevator. The room has a nice format. Our main room had a king bed, TV, and desk area. Wi-fi was good. And two luggage racks!! There's a small partitioned area between the bathroom and bedroom that allows for a bit of privacy. That's where you'll find a microwave and a Keurig coffeemaker. The bathroom isn't especially large, but it has a nice big counter, toiletries and a hairdryer. There are cookies available in the lobby after 4 in the afternoon and USA Today is there too. There's also coffee available in the lobby throughout the day. Breakfast is in a smallish room that's hard to find - use your map or ask at the front desk. Lots of choices: cheese omelets, bacon, sausage, muffins, pastries, bagels, English muffins, waffles with toppings, cereals, yogurt, fruit, and coffee and juices. You'll get a ticket for breakfast when you check in so be sure to bring it with you to the breakfast room as someone will collect it. The seating area is pretty small and was very crowded.

    « Excellent stay »

Good location, very clean and confortable The rooms are large and it was quiet during our stay.. Beds were firm and confortable Staff always available to help. The free hot breakfast was excellent with a lot of choice.

    5
« Really enjoyed my stay - will return »

The place felt somewhat like a maze going from my room to the pool to the restaurant, but that could have been from all the hiking that day. The room felt more like a small apartment than a hotel room - incredibly comfortable bed, huge television, fridge and microwave, big bathroom, sitting area. The hot tub and heated pool were incredible - overall this is a hotel I will return to. 100% satisfied and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

    « Club Convention »

We just spent this weekend at the Merry Manor Inn Best Western in South Portland, Maine. Our club hosted a convention there. There was nothing that we needed that was not provided for us. The staff was so helpful, and their experience showed in everything they did to make our weekend so fun with little effort.

    5
    « Enjoyable weekend stay »

We went for an overnight to lessen our travel time/mileage to daughter's collegiate sports weekend. We enjoyed our stay while enjoying all amenities available. The staff was extremely friendly, nice and welcoming throughout our stay. AMAZINGLY comfy beds too.

    4
    « Comfortable »

Visited in September on a road trip. The receptionist was probably the best we came across, very helpful. Only stayed one night, a bit out of town, but clean, comfortable and I would stay again. As in other reviews the cookies in reception were a lovely touch.

    4
« Good Place to Crash »

Stayed here on our last leg of our trip to Maine. Friendly and courteous. Nice pool, although we did not use it. They offer a free breakfast, however we departed to early to take advantage of it. They prepared a to-go breakfast of fruit and breakfast bars for us. All in all a good value.

    3
« Nice, but needs an update »

Our room was very outdated, but comfortable. My husband liked the nice chair that he could watch the game on tv in comfort. There was a flood light outside our window that was very bright and annoying. The room was kept clean and their breakfast was more than adequate. It was a good location and easily got to our destinations.

    5
« Good value, Great staff »

We spent an evening at the Merry Manor Best Western and found the hotel convenient to the interstate. The room was ample for two and very clean. Bed was more comfortable than more expensive places we've stayed. Breakfast was quite good and varied. The best attribute about the hotel, however, is its staff, particularly Laura who helped us out with a billing problem that I inadvertently caused. Laura was not only willing to help, but did so cheerfully. She is a real asset to the Merry Manor Inn. Thanks, Laura!

« Only had one night here but would have stayed longer »

We were booked in for one night at the Best Western Merry Manor Inn in Portland, Maine as part of a fly drive holiday. On arriving at the hotel, we were told that we had been upgraded to Fireplace Suite. The room was huge and contained two double beds complete with large tv. The livingroom area had a settee and desk, chair and armchair with another large tv. The room also had a large fridge, microwave and coffee machine. The room was very clean. The hotel is easy to find just off route US1. Next door to the hotel is a petrol station which also sells beer, and snacks. The hotel restaurant was very good and the hotel includes breakfast with your room rate. Though the breakfast was not the best to be had, you did get the usual cereal, toast, pancakes and scrambled eggs, bacon. The hotel also has a swimming pool which we did not use. Overall the hotel could do with a bit updating décor wise but the staff were excellent and the room very comfortable and I would stay here again.

« A merry trip to the Merry Manor »

A great wee place to stop when passing through. Staff were excellent & gave great advice on local sights. Room was large & clean with great bathroom facilities & extra sink was great idea. Beds & pillows very comfy. Free buffet breakfast was fabulous so much choice & delicious too.

« Roomy room, best hotel breakfast ever »

Can't imagine why this hotel is not a Best Western Plus. Sprawling property. Spaceous rooms with two sinks- one within the bathroom (with the lowest toilet ever), the other in a dressing room area with coffee, microwave and fridge, pillowtop bed, and comfy pillows. Expansive breakfast with awesome blueberry muffins, had plenty of variety - waffle maker, scrambles, sausage, bacon, corned beef hash, biscuits and gravy, cereal, cappucino and assorted coffee by machine. Breakfast was a zoo with people, when leaving saw a sign for additional seating upstairs.

    5
    « South Portland Trip »

Checking in was easy. The service was very good. The staff was friendly and courteous. The rooms were clean and neat and everything worked. The in house restaurant was very good. I would recommend this hotel to my friends.

« Good hotel, GREAT staff! »

Stayed for 1 night after arriving at airport and before leaving for a long weekend. Had a room on the 1st floor which was clean with good beds. I agree with the reviewers that described the place as dated/tired, so much so that it's almost retro/vintage! The only complaint I had about the room was the large space between the bottom of the door and the floor-when people walked by talking it sounded like they were coming into the room! I blocked it with a pillow to mute the noise and the light before I went to bed. The free breakfast was similar to free breakfast at every other chain. That all being said, the employees were wonderful! Friendly and helpful, they never failed to smile! On the morning of my departure I had to wait a bit for a ride, and when one of the front desk women came over to get a coffee she struck up a conversation about my book. After we discovered we were both avid readers we went from there to medical conditions, pharmaceutical companies, best authors and Maine attractions. What a lovely human being, and I joy to talk to. Will definitely return for the service whenever I stay in Portland!

    « visiting my brother »

It is our second stay at this hotel. It is e very nice place and near shopping and restaurents. Breakfast included and a very good choice of products, but the space is very too small for the number of customers.Nice size of rooms and very clean.

    5
    « Mini vacation »

My young family stayed at this Best Western on a mini trip to Maine. The room was clean and easily accessible. The bed was extremely comfortable. We were very relaxed. The location was also close to many delicious restaurants. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The breakfast had many options including accommodating gluten free allergies. We recommend this location for lodging. I am giving the rating a 5; however, I would give a 4 1/2 due to the rooms lacking a modern feel.

    3
    « Just ok »

We stayed at this hotel for two days. Staff was friendly and room was clean. Hotel is a bit dated but really didn't matter to me much. The best part, bed was comfy. Big screen TV in the room. Plenty of outlets for charging things (most hotels your lucky if you can find one or two to use without unplugging everything else). Hotel is conveniently located.

    5
« Old fashioned hospitality, that is rare in todays world »

Its an older hotel, but is up to the modern standards.Everything in my room worked, and the breakfast is of high quality, there is even a cappuccino machine. John the night auditor was great, with wealth of local info. All staff persons I encountered were polite and friendly. The hotel has character and personality that modern cookie cutter hotels lack. BW's hotels were known to reflect their local charm and personality. Hope BW keeps to that formula, and keeps this hotel in their system.

    4
    « A fine place »

We stayed here for one night Columbus Day weekend. It was conveniently located about a 10 minute drive from downtown Portland. Our room was around back and we had a parking space just in front of the door. No noise from neighbors. The room was good. Not too big but room for an easy chair with decent lighting. Everything worked well. Bathroom shower with tub. Be careful hot water is really hot! But good water pressure. Breakfast was better than anticipated with plenty of hit offerings like bacon sausage egg beef hash and make your own pancakes and waffles as well as cold choices. A fine place to stay.

    4
« good and very quiet hotel »

comfortable and clean room (there was massage chair also). Good breakfast. Free cookies at reception haave been appreciated. Big parking around the hotel. 15 minutes from the city centre by car. Reccomended hotel.

    4
    « Lovely Time »

We had a great time visiting Maine and this hotel was central. It is a little older but clean. The pool is great (heated) and the free breakfast is very good. Not the place for divas. The restaurant next door is the same. It is older but very good. Nice wine. That was a surprise. Yes it is behind a gas station but it is clean and safe.

    « Great time in South Portland,Maine »

Room was clean and updated.Delicious meals at the Maine Table, which is attached to the premises.Highly recommend the lobster bisque soup...to die for!!Special shout-out to Brittney for her excellent service and helpful tidbits on Portland!! Close to Headlight Lighthouse and Fort Williams.

    5
    « You won't be disappointed! »

BW in South Portland is an excellent value with clean rooms and comfortable beds. Head upstairs for breakfast as it is very spacious and less crowded. The shower pressure was also great and the double sinks a nice advantage. I would definitely recommend staying here.

    4
    « A practical choice »

This large hotel has reception rooms, restaurant, pool and many in-room facilities including fridge, microwave, free wifi etc. Frequented by bus group tours, it is quite a busy place and there is sometimes a bit of noise transmission from room to room and from people moving in the corridors. There are a couple of small corner stores nearby, and a large shopping mall with multiple fast food and shopping facilities about a mile away. In short, for those "on the road" it is a practical stopover, but without a car it would be rather more difficult.

    4
    « Pleasant place »

The hotel building is an old establishment but it has facilities like indoor swimming pool and spa, restaurant, reception and parties hall. Our arrival was welcome by Todd. Rooms are clean with microwave, fridge and tea/coffee facilities. Hotel is quite busy with tourist package guest, which makes a bit noisy. There is gas station with basic amenities nearby. At two miles distance there is a big shopping mall. Which has Macy's also with many other fashion designers shops, pharmacy, food hall etc. I will stay in future as it is not a big budget hotel.

    4
    « Great quiet stay »

A good Best Western hotel room that you would always recognise. About 4 miles outside Bar Harbour. Beware there is a breakfast room with a very good buffet breakfast, but no restaurant! You can walk down to the Log Cabin along the road (15 minute walk. - take a torch) which is a great restaurant or drive towards or into Bar Harbour for food. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel great for a quiet nights sleep.

    4
    « Pleasantly Surprised.... »

After looking for a last minute hotel in Portland that wasn't going to cost $400/night I decided to try the Best Western Merry Manor. We had stayed at this hotel years ago and was pleased so decided to revisit this hotel. I'm so glad that I did. We got a room with a full breakfast for a reasonable rate.

    5
« Comfortable and Safe stay »

My stay was comfortable and safe with a clean, inexpensive room and restaurant adjoining that was reasonably priced. The hotel staff was exceptionally friendly and answered all of my questions perfectly.

    5
« Great Hotel and location »

We stayed in this hotel for three nights. We liked the room, the service, the Breakfast Room, the Restaurant and the location. It was close to all the amenities and not far from Old Orchard Beach - about 20 minutes drive. Would recommend this hotel.

    4
    « Overnight stay »

Overnight stay for business. Place was clean and very convenient to everything.Area was safe. Bed comfortable. Staff was friendly. Didnt take advantage of the free breakfast, so I cant comment on that. Would definitely book here again.

    5
    « Great stay »

Exceeded expectations in every way! We booked a king room. Every space in the hotel was squeaky clean and the linens were plushy. The pool and hot tub were tastefully unique, clean and well-maintained. My husband especially felt spoiled with the giant tv. Tip: Request a massage chair!

  • 4
    « wonderful as always »

My husband and I stay here very often it is one of our favorite places to stay! The hot tub with its waterfall is awesome! The indoor/outdoor swimming pool is always a wonderful treat! The staff is always friendly and ready to help!

    5
    « Nice Inn »

The hotel was quiet inside and the room was pleasant. The breakfast offerings were numerous--pancake, waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. The weight room was okay with minimal items. Staff was pleasant and helpful.

    5
    « Comfortable, clean »

I don't normally stay at Best Western, but this had great reviews on Trip Advisor, so we did stay at the Best Western Merry Manor Inn in South Portland, ME. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable, the included breakfast was very good. The indoor and outdoor pools were clean and sparkling. The chocolate chip cookies and coffee available at the front desk in the late afternoon just hit the spot. I can't say enough good things about this facility. Granted, it wasn't new, but it was updated and one of the best that I have stayed in. I definately recommend it.

    5
    « Destination wedding »

My husband and I went to South Portland for a wedding and wished that we had planned to stay longer since our accommodations were more than we expected, especially for the cost. Location was convenient to sights. Outdoor pool area was impressively decorated with an autumn theme. Had time presented itself, it would have been nice to lounge there. Had to check out right after a very nice breakfast that happened to be, to our surprise, complimentary.

    « bed bugs help »

I stayed in May 21-25 and on second floor. It was a nice bed but I kept my things off the ground and didn't think to look for bed bugs when I was there but when I got home five weeks after my stay I had a manifestation of bugs. Oh my God how horrific and I cant prove they were there but I paid $1050 for my trauma. I called the assistant manager and he was an rude to me, and I talk to the actual owner of the hotel and he said he would get back to me. He figured they were not there and had to check. I fly one time per year to enjoy my self, and when I went this year it was bed bug city. I checked down the road and they are everywhere. The manager has not got back with me. All I ask was my half of my room back and I assume responsibility for my half, he has yet to get back to me. Now I never said they had them but what are the odds I stayed at that hotel and return home and get a manifiestation after staying in strange hotel. I stayed 4 days, so I hope no one got from that room. When I spoke to first manager he smarted off and said you may get the bed bugs from the airport, I said sthey hang around beds man. He was rude. The day time manager was not rude but I guess he don't know health department here I come. The day and night manager have spoke to me, and also I called Western and they said the hotel was responsible. They have yet to call me and apologiz, or offer me half of the money.

    « A home away from home »

This hotel is the very best. The employees are courteous and efficient. The service is excellent. It has a heated outdoor pool, a wide screen TV in each room and coffee and beverages 24 hrs. a day. It has free computer service and a gym. A restaurant on the premises with the food that is excellent. I highly recommend this hotel. A microwave and refrigerator in each room with a separate dressing area.

    4
« Well maintained, clean, pet friendly, great brekkie, but showing it's age »

Rooms are very clean but the hotel is showing its age. Staff are helpful and friendly. Pet friendly. Good value for money. Breakfast is quite good, lots of choices from low fat yogurt and fresh fruit to corned beef hash, bacon, sausage, etc. Make your own waffles with 8-9 toppings. Anyone who says the breakfast isn't good is either trolling or has unrealistic expectations. Oh, and good drip coffee and a brand new espresso machine that makes great lattes and cappuccino. Well lit parking area. Convenient location. Hint: order pizza from Portland Pie Co., you won't be disappointed.

    4
« Pool, Hot Tub, and the Right Price »

Although the décor was a bit tired, we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay. The outdoor heated pool was just fantastic even with temps. in the 60,s. Large hot tub was a welcome retreat. Cookies at check-in and available coffee was just what we needed after driving all day. Breakfast room was a bit crowded, but wide range of food. Great value, especially during the week!

« Very comfortable one night stay »

I picked this hotel because of it's proximity to the airport, but it is far enough away that you don't have to hear planes in the night. This place had the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept on. I drove into town late at night to pick up a friend from the airport, and we slept here before tackling the three hour drive back to my hometown. We didn't use any of the amenities on this trip, but I plan to book here again for my friend's flight home. The only difficulty I had was spotting the hotel in the dark. Coming from the Turnpike Approach, my GPS told me to turn left at the intersection when I actually should have gone straight through to enter the parking lot. Their sign by the road was not lit, which was why I didn't spot it. The next morning when we checked out, it looked like they were in the process of installing a new sign, so it shouldn't be an issue now. Thanks for the good nights rest!

My husband and I stayed here on our way back to Boston. After reading reviews & acquiring a decent price online, I booked a room. From the start, it was a great experience. The young lady working the front desk was very friendly & welcoming. The room was much nicer than expected. My husband fell in love with the massage chair! The room was overall clean & comfortable. The continental breakfast was better than expected with hot items like eggs, corned beef hash, bacon, etc. As well as the standard cold stuff.

Hotel was clean and the service was good...the staff was very friendly. Breakfast was average...typical breakfast food for this type of hotel. This hotel needs a little updating. Nice pool and hot tub. Easy to get to. Would probably stay here again.

My wife and I stopped in for one night on our trip up the Maine coast. Hotel was nice. Room was clean, bed was comfortable, shower was good. Breakfast was also good. Didn't really use many of the other conveniences of the hotel.

    « 2016 Military Reunion »

This year we had our military reunion (71st Transportation Battalion Vietnam Veterans) at the Best Western Merry Manor Inn, South Portland, Maine. I'm the planner for our reunions and worked with Don Haggett, Director of Sales. After speaking with Don for just a few minutes, I knew we were on the same page. He knew exactly what I was looking for and provided it without any time-consuming negotiations. Don also set up our tours, which freed up more of my time so I could enjoy the reunion. The entire hotel staff was kind and courteous in all respects. Also the food was outstanding in the hotel restaurant and at our Saturday evening banquet. I would highly recommend this hotel for military reunions, tours, family and friends, or any type of stay.

    « Submarine Reunion »

This hotel has the most helpful and friendly employees. The facility is excellent for military reunions. The restaurant was very good. I have never been to a cleaner hotel or dealt with nicer people. Service was top notch. Even though our room had not been upgraded yet, it did have a new big screen TV and an oversize window overlooking the pool. We are very satisfied with our stay

« Big hotel, lots of amenities. »

The Best Western Merry Manor Inn is conveniently located in So. Portland, ME with excellent access to the Maine Turnpike. It features a heated outdoor pool with indoor access. The rooms are large and ours featured a massaging recliner and a large flat screen TV with hi-def programming. The breakfast featured eggs and waffles as well as French toast. All-in-all it is an excellent value.

    « Awesome »

This is one of the best run hotels I have every visited. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The room was spotless as was the bathroom. There is a heated outdoor pool and a winderful hot tub. The hot tub makes you feel like you are under a waterfall, you have to try it. There is a wonderful restaurant with a reasonably priced varied menu The weekend we were theree the service was a little slow but there were two military reunions and a few other conferences so it was expected Great place , we will return and recommend to friends.

« Great value, unexpectedly accessible to downtown »

The staff, building, amenities (workout room, amazing swimming pool, etc.), sleeping room (including a mini kitchen) and free breakfast were all excellent, making for a great value. The very easy drive to Portland's Old Port wharves takes only 10 - 12 minutes. The breakfast room is much too small for the number of patrons using it (but the free breakfast is excellent). The dining room's furnishings are dark and lighting is somewhat dim, giving an overall gloomy atmosphere. The seafood chowder didn't taste as fresh as one would expect, given that fish piers are only 10 minutes away.

    « Welcomed Stay »

We needed to travel to Portland on a last minute emergency, prefer to stay with our "favorite" hotels but found the task of finding a hotel in town unpleasant and impossible unless we wanted to spend over $300. On line and on the phone, few hotels were accommodating or welcoming. We reached out to this hotel since it had reasonable reviews on TA, and were most pleased. The person who took our reservation was very helpful and when we arrived, since they couldn't give us a king room, they upgraded us to a spacious room with sitting area and fireplace. Price of the room was $161 with discount and included breakfast but for this weekend, in this city, for some reason, that was a bargain!!!! Room was dated and had that Pine Sol smell often found in older hotels but extremely well appointed, clean and comfortable. Owners seem to be trying to make the property homey, despite its age. Plenty of electrical outlets, separate shower and toilet area with another in a separate dressing area. Parking very accessible and plentiful. Restaurant on site and offered full breakfast. Close to I-295 and easy stop if driving through. Easy drive into downtown which is a great little port town to see.

« Great Place To Call Home for a few days »

This was a great place to stay. Folks behind the counter were very helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean and spacious. Breakfast was adequate and well staffed again. Dinner in the restaurant was reasonably priced and very good. Service was spot on.

    « Vacation stop »

My wife and I stayed at the Merry Manor while on vacation in Maine last week. Our room was quiet, clean and comfortable. The hotel is located in South Portland but is still convenient to downtown Portland and not real far from Kennebuckport. I would stay there again if in the area.

« Comfortable and good value »

Two of us spent three nights at this conveniently located hotel. Great parking directly in front of our room which was clean but had a musty, damp smell. The beds were comfortable and there was a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The tub and toilet were in a separate but very tiny room off the dressing area.. I would think it would be hard to maneuver in if one were very tall. Friendly and helpful staff and the breakfast buffet varied and satisfying. We enjoyed our stay overall but must mention the loud sounds at night which may have been from another room's air conditioning unit.

Very nice room. Room was very clean, beds were comfortable and slept very well. Bathrooms were clean and well supplied. There restaurant was very good had wings and pizza. Breakfast was very good best free breakfast yet, breakfast very busy the lady kept it every well supplied for as many people that were there.. would stay there again when in the area.

    « What a pleasant suprise »

The staff was friendly and courteous. The breakfast was excellent. The beds were comfortable. Good value for the price. Close to the Maine Mall and easy access to I-295. The place is dated but they are working on that. Aside from that, it is a wonderful place to stay.

Do not interpret any score less than ten as a failure. Our answers are based upon experience with all types of hotels in America and abroad. Overall the experience exceeded expectations and delivers an excellent product for the price.

    « Pleasantly surprised ! »

When it was revealed that is was our hotwire secret hotel, we were a bit disappointed. The pictures online showed a dated hotel. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were clean, comfortable and well appointed (microwave, mini fridge, 2 sinks, massage chair). There are also 2 hot tubs and an outdoor pool. The breakfast had many hot and cold choices (pancakes, waffles, omelettes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, etc.) plus an espresso machine and regular coffee. It has not been recently renovated but it was definitely a nicer hotel than we had imagined !

    « Great stopover »

We booked this hotel as a stopover on our way to halifax, the room was clean, the bed was comfy, the breakfast was better than usual, the location was great, and the staff were very accomodating. I would definitely stay here again!

    « Good Choice »

Found this hotel close to the highways for the beach, for shopping and for restaurants...very clean...good TV selection on HDTV...helpful staff..only negative is that the breakfast area is tight with tables and chairs so somewhat difficult to get about the food service area......the area can become hot when loaded with guest..on the plus side breakfast is open every day untill10:30am!!

« Great value -quick drive into Portland »

The Best Western Merry Manor was a terrific value in a very expensive list of places in Portland proper over Labor Day weekend. I had also considered the Quality Inn and Howard Johnsons as places to stay but decided on Merry Manor due to the positive reviews. While our first choice would have been to stay right in town, last minute on Labor Day weekend means beggars cant be choosers, but we may be back here again even if we go when downtown hotels are more affordable! We were cheerfully greeted upon arrival, a genuine greeting, not a robotic output! The room, while dated, was clean and super comfortable. When I say dated, think typical "motel" style, with curtain and bed coverings that have that "shiny" polyester"ish" feel to them, and a drop ceiling in the sink/bathroom area, so not an updated feel, but honestly that's the worst I have to say about it! And I only mention in case this is important to readers. There is a microwave and mini fridge, and very spacious sink area outside of the bathroom. The room was clean, and we got a really good night's sleep. No noise during the night and the sheets were nice and soft, along with the pillows. We were able to use our Chromecast on the HDTV- a plus! In the morning it was funny my husband was really insistent I take a shower even though I had a taken a bath the previous night. But it wasn't because I had offensive odor, he wanted me to experience the awesome water pressure in the shower haha! It was a nice "blast" and the towels were soft and not threadbare. We did not use our breakfast coupons, but this is another reason the Merry Manor is a good value. But we had come to experience the restaurants Portland has to offer, and that means brunch! It was super easy to get in an out of Portland, really no reason to stay right downtown unless you drink a lot and don't want to drive, but even then there's Uber or taxi. It took about 8 minutes to get downtown, and even on Labor Day weekend we were able to find metered street parking which is $2 for 2 hour windows. When I called the front desk around 9 to ask if I could just leave the keys in the room for check out the gentleman on the phone asked if everything was OK and you could tell he was concerned that maybe something was wrong. It wasn't. We did not check out the full service restaurant with bar or pools, but again this is another plus. I would wholeheartedly recommend the Merry Manor and would stay again.

    « Very comfy! »

Stayed here one night. The restaurant next door had a very yummy dinner and drinks. Breakfast the next morning there was also yummy and there was a wide variety of food selection. The bed was very comfy including the pillows. The pool area was really nice and the water was warm. The only "problem" we had was that we both found the water pressure during our showers to be pretty low.

« Very Comfortable Room and comfortable bed. Nice assessories. »

We booked a room in advance and even called to let them know we would be a late check in. When we arrived however, they had no rooms left, so they upgraded us to a Captains Suite. The room was amazing. Very comfortable bed, sleep so peacefully. The room had a fireplace, massage chair, Jacuzzi, and a shower, bath robes, desk. Very please with our stay. Unable to review the King standard room we wer suppose to be in, but if it was anything near as nice as the suite were put into, it would be a great choice.

« Good stay at the hotel 8/26-8/28 »

Stayed here for a couple of nights to visit Portland. Great location right off of the highway. Rates I had included free breakfast in the restaurant next door - quite busy and trying to keep food levels up was a challenge but they were constantly running to do so. Room is also very tight to get through. Additional seating is available upstairs. Check-in was very quick, cordial and easy. Room was all I needed so no complaints with it. Bed was comfy and provided good sleep. About a 10-15 min drive to downtown Portland ($10 Uber ride each way with no surge). I would have no issue staying here again in the future,

    5
« Great, for kids, and adults! »

Great motel! Location very very close to an exit off highway 95. Check in was easy. The two queen bed rooms are quite large. Lots of room. Bathroom was clean with a sink in a separate little room next to the shower/bath and toilet. A/C worked flawlessly and wasn't overly noisy. Beds were comfortable, and there were four pillows on each bed. Breakfast was included. Very adequate, lots of choices. The swimming pool was a big hit with the kids. It is outdoors, but the kids can swim under a plastic 'sheet' to the inside of the building, where the water is now a little hot tub! Interconnecting rooms are available. They also have one Family Room....which is a two bedroom unit, with even more space than two interconnecting rooms. This has a large walk-in closet, and its own linen closet. This is less expensive than two interconnecting rooms! So, all in all, I found this a wonderful venue for a stay in Portland. The ONLY problem was that if you wanted to go to downtown Portland for sightseeing or dinner, you'd have to drive and then find parking.

    « Pleasant stay »

Wanted a South Portland base for our recent trip to Maine, as we always seem to end up spending most of our vacation here no matter where we stay in southern Maine. Hotel was clean, comfortable and quiet, and for the time of year very competitively priced. Pool area is large and well maintained. The staff in the breakfast really hustled and did a great job of keeping the room clean and well stocked. The variety of breakfast item was much larger than at most of these types of hotels but of average quality. I would not hesitate to stay here the next time I'm in Maine.

    « Highly regarded stay!! »

A definite comfortable stay for my family. It has more than what is stated in other reviews. It is set back from the busy street so it is quiet. The rooms are comfortable and well kept. The breakfast provided is actually a full breakfast with hot food, make you own pancake station and Wide range of fruits to round out your meal. It can get crowded early but they encourage you to share a table with others. A friendly take to start a day. The staff here is very attentive to your needs no matter where you are in the facility. Wide open space for walking pets and let kids run off energy. Kids will love the pool on the humid days here. The hotel has super easy access to highway 95 to help get places quick. Will return definitely!!!!!!!!!

    « Comfortable but dated ... »

We stayed here one night. Our room was comfortable and clean and handy to the Interstates. The breakfast was included and had an excellent variety. The only gripe that I had was that I booked the room about 3 weeks in advance and found that I could not cancel after making the booking without paying the whole price. It was just fine for our overnight.

« Home away from home. »

Simply put, I love this place. My wife and I go to Maine A LOT. Like six or seven times a year a lot. And we stay with the wonderful people at the Best Western Merry Manor Inn every time. And that's for a reason. The hotel might be a bit unassuming from the outside, but it's perfect for a single, couple or family stay. The staff is exceptional. They're responsive to your every need and will solve any problem you might have. The rooms are nice, clean and comfortable. Never had the slightest problem. Beds are big and comfy. Even the pillows, my biggest problem with most hotels, are soft. Hotel is located right at the end of the highway on Main Street, which provides easy access to all the local sites. You can get to downtown Portland, Old Port, the mall, Old Orchard Beach, Cape Elizabeth (where the Portland Head Light is located) and the Casco Bay with no problems. Also has a nice restaurant and bar attached. The bar is a nice feature and a cool place to grab a drink just a few feet from your room. Shaun the bartender is an awesome dude and will pour you a cold drink and give you good conversation to boot. Overall an awesome place. See you all soon!!

« Great pool and spa, »

Room was clean, Pool area very nice with lovely landscaping. Friendly staff and close to the beach. If you like to kayak it is very close to th Scarbourough Bird sanctuary where your can rent canoes and Kayaks to paddle the salt marsh. Would stay again.

    « Handy location »

Outside pool which looked well cared for, restaurant attached with a excellent menu and a good range of beer. The rooms were functional and comfortable with reasonable quiet air conditioning. Breakfast had a good range but in a transport cafe type setting.

    « Poor Value »

I cannot believe they charged us $170 for this very average room and below average breakfast, and that many people were happy here (based on other reviews). The room was clean, but the carpet was old. The breakfast food was not even of average quality, even though it had a good selection (and was certainly more than just Continental). Also, the breakfast room was VERY crowded. The only reason this received even two stars was because the front desk was efficient, the bed was comfortable, and because at least everything was clean.

    4
« A surprise in an old city »

The Best Western Merry Manor Inn is a pleasant surprise in the old port city of Portland, ME. It is a comfortable facility just off the highway on the outskirts of the city. We had a nice suite with all necessary amenities (pool, wifi, on-site restaurant). The attached restaurant was surprisingly good, and reasonable.

    4
    « Nice Visit »

I went up for a softball tournament. I stayed here one night. The breakfast was very impressive for a continental breakfast. The pool area is pretty cool. The rooms were nice. Nothing crazy but a clean and comfortable room. Staff was friendly and helpful.

    « Nice place »

This was the third time we have stayed here. We have not been disappointed. The hotel is close to everything. It's right off the highway, easy in and out. The breakfast which is included is quite good. A large variety of breakfast favorites. Also free coffee in the hotel lobby 24-7.

    3
« Uncomfortable bed and no food for us »

There are two outstanding memories of our stay at Merry Manor. The first is the bed was very uncomfortable mostly due to really bad pillows. I still have a stiff neck. Secondly, they give you two tickets for the complimentary breakfast which they brag about. Trouble is, the breakfast room was so small and over-crowded, we couldn't even get in the door. Disappointing. We settled for coffee on the highway.

    5
« Great place to stay »

The Best Western Hotel was a great place to stay in the midst of the summer vacation season in Maine. Reasonably priced and excellent value for the money. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast had quite a number of good choices.

    5
« Great Clean and Comfy Rooms »

Check in was a breeze, Hotel spotless, rooms clean, cozy and comfy. Great quality for the price and the location was so easy to find. Pool area was clean and organized. Kids were having lots of fun. We will stay there again, often.

    4
    « 2nd time's a charm »

2nd year here and loved it. The pool is the main reason I wanted to come back here. Last year I had a knee replacement and spent the better half of my week here immersed in the warm salt water, great physical therapy. This year, while only here for 4 days it was the same, only this time I could really enjoy myself. It is centrally located enough that day trips are easy. With so many delicious food places just over the bridge. The room was very comfortable, the staff very friendly. My only issues was the site we had booked the reservation through went bankrupt. The hotel honored our original amount and gave me paperwork to recoup my losses.

    2
    « Smokers Only!!! »

If you are a non smoker and prefer non smoking rooms definitely avoid the exterior entrance rooms at this Best Western. People step right outside their room doors and chain smoke. 2nd hand smoke is then pulled into your room via the AC vents. Be prepared for smokers lighting up at the hotel side entrances and in the Pool area. These scenarios are blatant violations of the Hotel non smoking policy and the Maine statewide ban on smoking in public places. The AC in room vent filters were visibly covered in dust! I'm surprised I didn't contract Legionnaires Disease during my stay! Our room was badly in need of renovation: worn carpet, mattress/box spring sagged in middle. No towel racks in bathroom, multiple electrical code violations with use of power strips and extension cords to power multiple appliances and lighting. I've stayed in many Best Western hotels and have never been as disappointed as I was with this facility. Definitely sub par compared to others!

    5
« Very clean and comfortable »

Our room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great. Pool and hot tub were clean and enjoyable. It was nice to have so many outlets and usb ports to charge all of our electronics. The location is perfect to access the mall, Old Orchard, Scarborough, and Cape Elizabeth. We were very pleased overall and will stay here again!

« Great Service at the Best Western Merry Manor Inn »

This hotel was very pleasant to stay at The room was neat and clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the service was stellar! We arrived very late (2:00 AM) and were greeted by a very friendly employee who made us feel welcome right away. We were able to get checked in and get a good sleep with no problems, which at the end of a long travel day was greatly appreciated.

« Clean and Reasonably priced »

The lobby was welcoming. The desk staff very kind and efficient. The room was average size, clean and comfortable. I liked that the shower and toilet were separate from the sink. The housekeeping staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was well stocked and fresh. There was a restaurant adjacent, but we did not go there. The pool area was nice and relaxing.

    « Excellent choice »

My wife and I along with another couple stayed at the Best Western Aug 12-14-16. Wow what a great choice we made. Everything looked fresh, clean and updated. I know this hotel is an older hotel and was nervous at first booking but I know who the owner is and thought we would give it a try. First of all staff and counter was excellent, professional and efficient. Walking up to the hotel rear entrance we smelled (faintly) new paint. Took the elevator to our floor and first impression was the clean smell of carpets, not old musty as is usual in older hotels. When we got to our adjoining rooms a nice touch by the reservationist we were totally impressed with cleanliness and updated rooms. Couldn't ask for more! And to top it all off great breakfast, eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, cereal, bagels, fruits and more. Will definitely stay again and any other property owned by Lafayette Hotels

    « Reasonable Price & Hotel »

Overall, this hotel has a lot to offer (pool, hot tub, free breakfast) and is clean. It is a little out dated but very clean. Most of the staff are amazing and compared to other hotels in the area, this is about the only one that is reasonable. It is located perfectly to go and see all the attractions in the area and has great food nearby. I rated the rooms as "average" simply because it is outdated, but again, very clean and comfortable.

    3
    « Overnight for a wedding »

The hotel is average. It is kept clean and breakfast was good. The most impressive part of our stay was the wedding reception which had excellent food and a good layout for the reception, despite the overly cool setting of the air conditioning.

    « A good stay »

Just checked out, had a good stay here. Very helpful and friendly front desk staff. Thanks Gabe and Amber for the restaurant recommendations! Husband and I were planning on staying the night in Old Orchard Beach area. Weather was not that great so we decided to continue driving north to Portland area. We are glad we did otherwise we would have missed the night stay at BW merry Manor Inn. Check in was easy, front desk personnel very professional and Shawn, bartender, while busy still had the time to stop and chat. Our king size bed was comfy, room was clean and WIFI/breakfast was included. Would not hesitate to come back to this location. One minor problem...ran out of cookies at the front desk! ??

« best Value I've found in Portland »

As of late I've been in Portland Maine a few times a month. I have been trying different areas of town as well as hotel chains. This is hands down one of the best all around values I've found. The hotel is a bit dated but it's easily looked over when you consider what you get for the price. It's about half of the cost compared to being in Portland proper. Good hotel gym facilities, beautiful and popular pool, room was clean and very nice. I didn't expect to have a mini fridge and microwave but it was nice to have for my left overs from dinner. The restaurant had a well priced menu and the service was fantastic. Shawn(sp?) the bartender was fantastic. He was engaging and attentive but also allowed me to enjoy my meal while sitting at the bar. This will be my #1 go to spot in the future no doubt.

    « Great Value! »

At least a three star Inn. Clean, modern, pool, spa, free continental breakfast. It is a full breakfast at that. French toast, pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage etc etc. They do have their own restaurant, open to the public as well. 10-15 minutes from the airport. It is 5 minutes from all the best shopping in the area. It is less than 10 miles from Old Orchard beach, which was our objective. They also have a laundry room. We got this place as a "mystery pick" on Priceline. Our Double room at $104 was cheaper than any economy hotel in the area( by a long shot). I would definitely stay at this place for a week or more if needed. Very satisfied!

    4
« Lovely place to stay »

We stayed at the Merry Manor Inn our first and last nights of our recent trip to Maine so we could be fairly near the airport. This was a large motel that was very well kept. Rooms were every comfortable and clean. Breakfast had a large selection to choose from. Employees were extremely helpful and always had a smile when speaking to guest. I would definitely stay here again.

    « Decent Overnight Stay »

I wanted to love this hotel. I booked it for a last minute trip and it was one of the only hotels available. I am a huge fan of the chain so I thought, why not! I felt like the hotel itself was too far from the city center (about a 10 min car ride to main part of town) and was all around quite dated. I didnt feel like everything was cleaned to the extent that I was comfortable with. The hallways were also a bit creepy - felt like it was right out of a horror scene walking around at 1AM. Again - overall the hotel itself was OK for a night or two. I wouldn't really stay again if prompted.

    « Best kept secret »

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There were 4 of us and found the family suite most comfortable and reasonably priced for the middle of the summer. Would recommend this lodging facility whether traveling for business for pleasure. Great breakfast included with the room rate.

    4
« Nice place to Stay »

We were very pleased with our stay at the BW Merry Manor Inn. It is conveniently located off of Route 1, and adjacent to a nice restaurant. The guest rooms were up to date and quiet even though it was near the road. My only issue was that there was a light from the parking lot that shined directly into our room. Upon check out I was told that there were blackout curtains but we were unable to locate them during our stay.

    2
    « Very disappointing »

Carpet was soaked through with I hope was only water. It actually squished as you walked on it. Bed was riddled with bugs and the room smelled - a combination of old smoke and mildew. Thankfully, I was there only for a few hours. Will avoid it in future.

    4
« Great Price alternative for a nice place »

This is a great hotel close enough to portland. Cab, drive or uber into town. They offer rooms with carpeting and other rooms with vinyl flooring. I asked for a room without the carpeting. The bed was very comfortable and the room was great. Would definitely stay again.

What a huge complex but great stay. Only stayed one night, but would stay again. Did I mention the wonderful breakfast they served? There was many people eating when we had breakfast but they kept up to demand. Many choices and all the choices were good. If you went away hungry here, you were not hungry. Quiet place with a frig and good towels.

Was a short stay, just came up for the melanie martinez concert with my daughter. Front Desk was great, helped me with directions. Staff were polite, greeted us whenever we passed, always smiling. The room was immaculate! I am a head housekeeper so I know. Missed breakfast.

Was a stop over on our way to Bar Harbor. Nice room, pleasant staff and a comfortable bed. Included breakfast which was a nice addition. The hotel is conveniently located to the harbor, downtown and a beautiful lighthouse. Overall, a good value.

We had just worked all night and showed up at 7:30 in the morning to ask for an early check in. They asked for my cell phone number and said they would call me as soon as the room was ready. I was doubtful, but they did as promised.

« Putting the Merry in Maine! »

This review is tailored for those who are traveling on a budget to Maine with kids, "furry" kids or both. I will also add some information for those who have accessibility issues. We had a family member with mobility issues staying in another room who needed accessible accommodations. Merry Manor has some rooms with direct entry from the parking lot, so guests with mobility issues do not have to hike through the hotel to access their room. We spent 3 relaxing days at the Best Western Merry Manor in South Portland. We came to Maine for a family event. Merry Manor had a great rate and was located on Route 1 with easy access to route 295 and Interstate 95- a big selling point. It was out first stay. Merry Manor is both child and pet friendly-a huge bonus if you are traveling with both. We had a king room which was very clean and comfortable. We brought an air mattress for the kids and the very friendly, helpful staff gave us sheets, pillows and blankets. The king size bed was very comfortable. Our room was like a mini-suite. It had a separate kitchenette area (separated from the sleeping area by a wall.) The little kitchenette had it's own wet bar/sink, microwave, Keurig coffeemaker, small fridge and shelves for food! Wow! I wasn't expecting this at a budget hotel/motel. Once again-this is a huge bonus if you have kids who are constantly hungry. And speaking of food, the pool area has gas grills available to guests! If you are tired of eating out, grab a few steaks and cook them on the grill. There is a really nice, clean and well-maintained outdoor pool with an open arch so you can swim into the indoor pool area. Of course your kids will love this. The indoor pool area has a smaller pool, plus a hot tub with a waterfall. The indoor pools are accessible. Both pools have hydraulic chairs to assist/lower a person into and out of the pool and hot tub. Bravo Merry Manor! Just beyond the indoor pool room, there is a bright and cheery lounge/sun room area for guests. There are a couple of tables, sofas and a television. One day we ordered a pizza and fed the kids lunch there. Who needs a cottage? The breakfast buffet is included and there is enough variety from make-your-own waffles to fruit salad, yogurt or traditional bacon and eggs to satisfy everyone in the family. Nearby attractions for the kids and Fido include Higgins Beach in Scarborough. This pristine, unspoiled public beach is about 4 scenic miles from Merry Manor. There is a public parking lot ($10 per day) with a bathhouse. The parking lot fills up quickly, so come early. Dogs are allowed on the beach in the morning until 9 AM and then again on-leash after 5 PM. After a day at the beach, return to the Merry Manor and let the kids use the pool while you grill the salmon!

    « Friendly and perks »

The breakfast buffet was top notch, staff was very friendly. Best part--coupon from a free local beer at the hotel's restaurant. The "Cur Non" red ale was outstanding. We will definitely stay here again when returning to Portland. Staying outside the city means better value, so why not?

    « Mixed Review »

We chose the Best Western Merry Manor due to its location. Overall we were happy with the accommodations. Pros: Easy check-in and out. Nice breakfast - lots of choices including fresh waffles, pancakes, fruit, muffins, bacon, sausage, etc. They were able to give me a to-go box for my husband Massage chair in room Keurig, microwave, and mini fridge in room Huge TV Lots of outlets/usb port for charging Less than half price of downtown Portland Cons: Carpeting in room needs replacing Dirty bathroom floor Nasty, stained towels TV sound locked and unable to put on closed captioning

    3
    « Great Pool »

Hotel needs updated but if you can get beyond that it is a perfect place to stay. Pool area was nice and even had grills available for guests to use. Breakfast was above average for most breakfast included hotels. Staff was very helpful of what to do in the area.

« Clean Rooms - Close to Interstate »

Clean hotel. Offers a restaurant attached but we chose the short drive to the waterfront. Room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel was right at the end of the interstate so it was easy off and easy on but the noise was not there from the interstate. Beds comfortable.

    « continued excellence »

The Merry Manor Inn continues to upgrade and improve appearance and service. We go there a lot and each time there is something better. It is also satisfying to see the good service people remaining. Our favorite hideaway. Come visit this winter and go swimming in a snowstorm!

    « My Stay »

I was very satisfied with the hotel as it had comfortable bed, was clean, the staff was pleasant & they even had a microwave & small frig. As it wasn't a big hotel, liked the fact our room was close to everything. They had just about everything for breakfast & my son loved the swimming pool as for him it was a must. We loved the location & when we return to Portland, we will definitely stay here. I also liked parking in a parking lot as I hate parking garages.

    « Treated Like Royalty! »

I enjoyed the quality, comfort, and service at this Best Western. It's nice to splurge once in a while! I didn't sleep well but not because of the motel. I am a terrible sleeper. I enjoyed being comfortable even when I couldn't get to sleep.

« Older but sitll nice and clean »

This property is not new or fancy, but it has comfortable beds and we had clean room. It has a nice pool and fitness room, but we didn't use them. There is also a complimentary breakfast. It was convenient to the Portland Jetport.

« Good family hotel with nice outdoor pool »

The staff was very helpful and courteous. It's an older hotel, but the rooms were large and comfortable. We had our grandkids (13 &14 years old) with us and they loved the outdoor pool and hot tub. The breakfast experience was not as good as our overall experiences in the hotel. You have to go outside and walk to the restaurant that provides the free breakfast. The breakfast was not especially tasty. The scrambled eggs were not cooked well. Still we loved the hotel and would gladly stop there again.

« A nice place to stay - well cared for »

Yes, it is an older motel, and definitely well maintained. The staff is good and friendly. The location is very good for anything you want to do. Your stay gives you a complementary breakfast that is good, and there is a ton of free parking. I stayed for two nights, to see sites and catch a sea dogs game. I would recommend this place, as my stay was very good. There is a restaurant next door, and a nice pool / spa.

« Room, Pool, Restaurant, Bar all in 1 spot »

Room was clean and comfortable. There is a restaurant/bar attached to the hotel, which was very convenient and the food was good. We stayed here as a mid-way stop to Bar Harbor. The teenagers went to the pool while we got refreshed at the bar. We will make this our "go to" stop for any future trips to Maine.

    « Comfy Stay »

From the time of check-in with Amber, the Merry Manor Inn was great! Everyone that works for the hotel is friendly & accommodating. Our king size room was clean & comfortable. WE had lots of room to move around, & enjoy the space. Laura at the front desk during our stay let us know about her husband's restaurant, because my husband loves fried clams, she also helped us with putting our purchases in the freezer!! Must say, Todd was very kind as well. Our room was cleaned perfectly everyday, it was a pleasure to return to sparkling room. WE didn't use the fitness area or the pool but they both looked very nice. Our only complaint was the breakfast room. Though the food choices were excellent, the room was horrible. It is way to small to accommodate the people that crowded in at breakfast time. Table were always full, people seemed to linger, even when other people were waiting for a spot to sit. We think Merry Manor needs to think about using a larger room or have one of the staff move folks along. We plan to stay again this coming Fall, see everyone soon.

    « Nice & clean »

Nice place. Good size, comfortable room with doable queen beds. Doable sink bathroom area (outdated, but very cleaned). Staff very amiable & welcoming. Outside hated pool with large inside jacuzzi. Continental breakfast available.

« Keeps on getting better »

The Merry Manor is our "go to" place in Maine, and this time, we picked up my wife's sister, who was flying in from Texas, and had not been to Maine before. We wanted the best for her, and we stayed at the Merry Manor. The employees there are the most hospitable and helpful of anywhere we have been. They make you feel more like family, than customers. That is why we keep coming back. Also of note, is that the grounds and the buildings are constantly being taken care of. Nice to see the pride in a clean and groomed grounds and area. Some places run them into the ground. An interesting note is that the employees seem to be very happy, and present themselves in a respectful and friendly manner. That is not always the "norm" today, and is appreciated. Keep up the good work folks, and we will keep on coming back. Kudos

    « Exceeding expectations »

The hotel offered many amenities and was a very good surprise, nice pool, rich complimentary breakfast, wifi. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable, the only thing that was missing was a safe. The location is isolated so a car is a must to move around.

Comfortable clean kind and friendly. Nothing more you can ask for. Best breakfast of any Best Western I've ever stayed at. Huge selection. Amber at the front desk was delightful and all the hotel staff was just remarkable.

    « Perfect for a large family »

We were a family of eleven, including three young children in town for a wedding. This was a perfect place to stay! We had free WiFi, parking, one of the best continental breakfasts I've encountered, a heated pool (great for the kids on a rainy day ), comfortable beds, and clean rooms . I highly recommend it.

    3
« Nice place to stay »

Very clean and comfy beds and pillows. We were greeted upon entering. When I asked about a great place to eat I was told the Maine Table, not so much, see my review there. The hotel is dated but clean and comfortable. The breakfast is very good and busy. The food was replenished as needed by two friendly hostesses.

    « Happy Stay »

This was a very good experience. We (wife, kids, grkids, and I) were in Portland for a nephew's wedding and took five rooms. All were placed together as we had requested. The place was quiet, the bed and pillows great, and the rooms clean. The included breakfast was first rate; lots of quality items. I just have to have an omelette with my scrambled eggs, bacon with my sausage, and a waffle with my pancakes. Good location with lots of convenient parking. The heated pool was wonderful because it was cold, overcast, and rainy. The grand kids and I had a ball diving for scrunchies and coming up in the mist coming off the surface . There is a lounge near the pool where we ate our take-out seafood lunch. Yes, we did put our beer in plastic cups. The wifi was fine. The only problems we encountered were the lack of cream for our coffee, which we wound up bringing in for breakfast on the second day, and the presence of dogs in the front rooms. One dog growled and lunged at me as I walked down the hall. What a female dog! Our room was almost $100/nite cheaper than the original hotel we had booked then cancelled downtown because it had no parking, no pool, no free wifi, no free breakfast. The staff were all helpful and friendly. It's nice to deal with smiles.

    « Pleasant surprise! »

We live in Maine and travel at least once a year. It's a bit of a drive to get to the Portland airport and parking adds up. So, we look for Park, Sleep and Fly deals that are less than parking fees. The Merry Manor Inn was terrific! It's a larger hotel that hosts bus tours but they handle this well. Rooms were nice, clean and spacious. Staff was very kind and accomodating. The hot breakfast was good with a diverse spread of items. While they do not have a shuttle, they will pay for cab fare to/from the airport. We would highly recommend and will definitely stay here again! It was less expensive than parking at PWM for two weeks.

    « Okay Stay »

My mom and I were visiting Portland and stayed 4 nights at the Best Western in South Portland. The front desk staff was friendly at check-in. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The hotel could use some updating, especially the bathroom. We parked in the back and used the back entrance during our visit, the back entrance needed a good cleaning. Overall the hotel worked okay for us. It was convenient to the jet port and shopping.

    « Overall A Super Stay! »

Stayed here as a family of five. Everything about our stay was super! The swimming pool was of nice size which allowed multiple families to enjoy it at the same time and not feel crowded. The service was super as the front desk was helpful in giving us dining recommendations. The continental breakfast in the morning was also super with lots of options. Will have no problem staying here again.

« Just what you expect »

The nice thing about chain hotels is that you come to expect certain standard things, and this is no exception. Clean, comfy, helpful desk, easy parking, heated pool, standard amenities, continental breakfast - check, check, check. A few things to note: they have a kiddie pool (shallow, indoors) for little ones, which is handy. It was surprisingly cool for an indoor pool for kids - usually they are warmer - but a nice feature nonetheless. The breakfast room was a ZOO! There is barely enough space to squeeze between tables to get to the buffet (definitely no room for a stroller, walker, wheelchair), however there is a more spacious room upstairs if you can manage the stairs (labelled "premium seating"). Considering the number of families we saw, I was surprised to find only one highchair (which was filthy). Also wanted to note that there is not room service, however you can get takeout food from The Maine Table next door (just not drinks).

    « Excellent Hotel »

This was a great hotel. Staff was just awesome. We were given coupons for a free buffet breakfast in the breakfast room. It was very good. The rooms were large and very clean. Bed was comfortable. I would definitely stay here again if I'm ever in the area again.

    « A Real Treat! »

The Best Western Merry Manor had all the familiar features plus more. The dining room food was very good and the heated outdoor pool a must on the cooler Maine evenings. We had the pleasure of staying in the Maine Lodge room which was an extra treat. It was like our own little hunting lodge. Inside, it had the feel of being in a log cabin and all the furniture was made from logs as well. There was a fire place and large jacuzzi and a walk in double shower too. There were so many little things - bear pillows, a bear stool, an antler chandelier, etc. And, then there was the massage chair to rest in after a long day of touring. It was a great room to spend a few nights in. The staff was very friendly and made you feel at home.

A great hotel to stay at while in South Portland Maine. This is the third summer I have visited South Portland Maine and stayed at the Best Western Merry Manor hotel. The Hotel came highly recommended by my local and military friends in Maine. Don Haggett the manager always goes out of his way to make my stay comfortable and convenient. Great food and service in the attache restaurant the "Maine table".

    « Excellent »

We are from New York and every time we're in Portland Maine we stay here the accommodations are always up to snuff. I especially enjoy the proximity to the shopping as well as the heated pool. Plus Cabelas is only about 15 minutes away.

    « Wonderful service! »

We were on our 4th day of our Harley bike trip and were looking forward to our stay at the Merry Manor as we have always enjoyed staying at Best Westerns. Laura checked us in. She was wonderful..even upgraded us to a suite at no extra charge. It was super comfortable..will come back in the winter to enjoy the fireplace! Thanks Laura..you made our stiff, weary bodies very happy!

This hotel was the best place we have stayed. The hotel was very clean. The staff were pleasant. The pool and spa was very clean. The beds were very comfortable. We did not hear people coming and going all night slamming doors. The breakfast the next morning was very good with a lot of food choices.

« Excellent hotel and staff »

Very Nice hotel. I am usually a very faithful Hampton Inn patron, but I would stay here again next time I'm in South Portland. We were allowed to check in early because a room was available and the check in staff was very helpful and friendly. We stayed in an interior room and it was clean and looked to be newly renovated. The beds were SUPER comfy and the flat screen TV huge, which the hubby loved. There is a second sink just outside of the bathroom, which had its own sink, I found this very neat and made it easier for us to get ready in the morning. The complimentary continental breakfast was more like a Breakfast buffet with typical continental type food, but also make your own waffles and pancakes. Bacon, sausage, scrables eggs, cheese omelets, hash, french toast and sausage gravy. They also had an expresso/latte/cappuccino machine, it was great! We didnt have time to swim but the pool looked clean and nice. Lastly I encountered some of the cleaning staff the day of check in and they were all very friendly. Over all the hotel was very welcoming and clean.

« Tired motel, but friendly staff »

We stayed one night here, and found the motel tired and in need of updating. The beds were fairly comfortable, we had free WiFi. The staff was very friendly, courteous, and helpful, and the complimentary breakfast was good.

« An excellent hotel in an excellent location »

Fabulous hotel! Pool was bath temperature, beautiful low lighting in the hot tub and pool area surrounded with hundreds of flowers in the courtyard. Lots of great nook type sitting areas around the hotel and beautiful rooms. Great breakfast service and all staff were very accommodating! Great location as a home base for Maine's various tourist attractions too!

« One of the most amazing hotels we've ever stayed in! »

Last summer we were in New England after a wedding in Burlington, Vt. After an awful hotel in Bar Harbour we stumbled upon the Merry Manor in Portland. It was a dreary, rainy coastal day. The Best Western staff was excellent. As luck would have it, we were upgraded to a beautiful, rustic 4th floor suite. There was a cosy fireplace, a hot tub, and a gigantic log four poster bed. It was great!

    « A great place to stay. »

If you are looking for a great place off the interstate in Portland definitely stay here.Staff was friendly. Todd was very friendly and helpful. The pool was awesome. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. I would definitely come back again. It's an easy drive to the Mall and downtown Portland.

« Very nice hotel. Good service. »

Stayed here with our bus tour group. Rooms were nice, clean. Hotel provided a delicious buffet dinner upon our arrival, and the breakfast buffet was more than adequate. Staff were all very friendly. Hot tub was amazing! Only comment is that allergies for several guests were very severe. Don't know why.

    « Dissatisfied »

After we got our room, my wife wanted to use the bathroom and notice a wade of toilet paper in the bowl. I notified the front desk of the situation. They said theywould take care of it.After in the morning flushing the toilet it was taking to long to refill i checked the holding tank which found to be empty. Notified the desk again of the situation. Their response was the same we will look in to it. Another couple told me he had the same problem as we did . I feel that this problem is a serious health issue and they are not taking it seriously enough. Especially the price of the rooms this problem should never have happened . I have stayed in motels that cost 1/2 the price and had better service than this one.

    4
« Nice Stay, More of a Conference Center »

This place seems like most of the draw is for families and/or conferences for local companies. I had a brief stay over one night for business and didn't have any issues. Staff at check in and check out were ok. The pool looked cool, but I didn't make it there. There is a restaurant on site that they give a free breakfast coupon for. The breakfast was a standard Best Western affair with nice hot selections. Coffee wasn't great. Overall, the hotel seems dated but it served its purpose to me and I have no complaints.

    3
« Clean and Friendly, but still disappointing »

I have recently become very loyal to the Best Western brand, but after this stay, I am going to have to rethink that loyalty. This hotel did not meet the standard that I've come to expect at other Best Western Properties. There is still more good than bad, but sadly I will not be returning after this stay. I came for 2 nights with my family to visit Portland for the weekend. The location is not great if you want to spend a lot of time downtown. It's about a 12 minute drive, but mostly highway. The GOOD: Friendly staff at check in. Check in was quick and easy. The room was clean. No noticeable dirt or filth. Clean bathroom, good water pressure in the shower. Split bath, with a sink both inside and outside of the bathroom. Fridge and microwave in the room. Great restaurant - food was good, and the older couple who was providing the entertainment were adorable. We had a fun evening there. Comfortable beds, and plenty of pillows. Now for the BAD: THE SMELL. It was awful. This was the worst part. The smell in the room was horrible, like mildew or mold or something. Just horrible. I would have asked to switch rooms, but honestly the whole hotel had this smell, so I didn't see the point in moving. Super hard towels, very uncomfortable. Key Issues - from the start, none of our keys worked. We finally got one to work, but on the second day it stopped. Had to go down to the front desk to figure it out, and it was a long walk as our room was all the way in the back. Breakfast - it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't good, either. And the coffee was awful. We didn't even go on the second morning, we went out for breakfast instead. The hot items were pretty gross, like the eggs, sausage and bacon. The hash was disgusting. The waffles were fine, and they had yogurt and muffins, and cereal. Overall, I'm just incredibly disappointed. This was not like other Best Westerns I've stayed at, it was much more of a "motel" that happened to have a decent restaurant. I'll say again, the staff were all friendly. But the building is gross.

    « maine coast trip »

This was our second stop in maine. We picked this hotel mainly because of the price and free breakfast. We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The staff was very cordial and pleasant. there were chocolate chip cookies on the counter at check in. The breakfast was great with a lot of different items. We did not care for their restaurant next door. Maybe it was just a bad day for them. We had baked haddosk with lobster sauce. Didnt look or taste like I thought it would. But the motel was great and I would definitely stay here again..

    4
« Lovely and quiet with good restaurant on site »

Staff very welcoming. Room on the top floor overlooking the back car park, fairly quiet. Breakfast was full of variety both hot and cold and there was a coffee machine that made different types of coffee. The downside was that the table and chairs were too close together where the food was but the following morning we were told there was a room upstairs that you could take your food up to. The inside hot tub was very nice but the furniture around the pool wasn't brilliant. 2 sunshades (1broken) and one table was full of a yellow dust. BBQ needed a good clean inside and out. The restaurant had good food and we were given a complimentary card for a free beer or wine from reception

    5
    « Comfortable Stay »

We love to stay at this hotel, my husband enjoys the hot tub and pool, I greatly enjoy the comfortable beds and the great meals at the restaurant. The location is great, near Interstate 95, the Maine Mall and close to downtown Portland.

    3
    « Convenient. »

The Merry Manor is super-convenient to roll in off the interstate. Rooms are ok; nothing special but not bad. Place is a bit scruffy looking but all in all for the convenience, I can put up with it. Breakfast was included but it was a mob scene in the small room where breakfast was served. We did a box breakfast one morning and that was excellent so I rate it average overall.

    2
« Not so good experience »

The staff was pretty friendly and responded to mist our request. The room we were dealt was dingy, bad odor, mysterious hair on the bed cover. The bathroom was tiny and dark, the toilet broke and the bathtub was clogged. Overall the room needs to be renovated. We tried unsuccessfully to get a different room as soon as we realized where it was located, right of the parking lot. Everything was booked, So they said. Needless to say, that We will never set foot in one these hotels. This can't be a bad coincidence.

« Easy to Airport, very clean, great hot tub! »

Had to catch a early flight and was very easy to get to airport. Clean and comfortable. Would recommend! Missed the breakfast next door (free with room) but it looked good! Staff was friendly. Restaraunt next door had a good evening sandwich!

    « Convenient Wedding Venue »

Stayed here to attend a friend's wedding. Convenience of hotel/restaurant/Wedding venue at one location made it very attractive. Price was right. Even though they are in the middle of a renovation, the staff and service was above and beyond.

    « Great stay on a budget »

Rooms were clean and neat. Wi-fi and continental breakfast were good. Front desk was polite and helpful. Only down side was lack of a safe to stow a laptop. However, the front desk kept it safe for us while we were out. In a day and age when it is hard to trust people, I was thankful for their upstanding ethics. And of course, your own bed is always more comfortable than a strange bed, but they were not hateful to sleep in.

« Stop over in Portland »

During our tour of northern New England, on our way from Acadia National Park to the white mountains of New Hampshire, we stayed at this BW hotel in South Portland. It is very well situated near major Interstate routes, and easily accessible, in and out. All staff members that we dealt with were very helpful and friendly, with our well-being in mind. The adjoining restaurant served very good food for dinner, with a musician providing entertaining songs (Thursday and Saturday). Excellent quality for the rate.

    « Pleasant Stay »

Room was clean, bed comfortable. Air conditioner was older and noisy. Was able to give us a room with an exterior door for our convenience. The Maine Table restaurant was very good. Breakfast was great with a large selection.

« For the Price, great »

Area is a drive to anything bit the staff is helpful, breakfast edible and pool unexpectedly nice. Hotel is clean. Our room had a massage chair which my husband liked after our long drive, I found it just took up floorspace. We ended up extending our stay here to see more of portland. This is one of the nicer economical hotels I've stayed at.

    « DiBona-Prue wedding »

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a place to stay while in town. The function staff is very accommodating and were attentive to our needs. This is a wonderful place for a function of any kind whether it is a wedding or a meeting.

« Night at the Merry Manor »

Had the pleasure of spending the night at the Merry Manor attending a Wedding Celebration. Every thing went off beautifully. Some what unhappy with the breakfast buffet, lots of options but the eggs, corn beef has and sausages were bland, no taste. However, the waffles with strawberries and whip cream were the best. The room was nicely decorated, beds very comfortable, Wi-Fi was very good. I'd definitely stay at the Merry Manor again.

    5
« Always a pleasure to stay here »

    « OK Hotel »

We stayed here for 1 night, hotel was welcoming clean and functional and the room included breakfast. Not much around this hotel but we had drinks and food in the restaurant which was fine. The breakfast was good with a good selection of fruit, cereals, pancakes, hot food etc. The corned beef hash is worth mentioning as I went back for more.

    « loved the place »

Our sixth and last hotel on our New England tour, and we thought the best. Nice for us Brits to find a hotel with a bar, and even nicer to find happy hour from 4pm - 6pm. Drinks then $4, bad cheap bar snacks. Hotel offers free continental breakfast. If that was continental, I wouldn't like to face a 'full English'! It was excellent! Dinner at the Maine Table was sort of compulsory if you don't want to drive, but was also good. The pool spa was lovely - I was there by myself, and had a great time with the hot tub, and the turn-on waterfall. Yes, we liked this place.

We were at the hotel for a military reunion. All efforts were made to accommodate the groups' needs and wishes. Our rooms were all close to the Hospitality Room which was in an ideal location for easy access to the exit and parking lot. The rooms were very clean and the staff very personable.

« Worst Western, not Best Western!!! »

Have never stayed at a Best Western and probably never will again! This place was poor. The reason I choose it was the proximity to the airport. Here is my list. --front desk smelled musty --carpet in room torn --furniture old, scratched and chipped --headboard on one of the beds was not attached to anything-- I could have removed it by just lifting it up! --room smelled musty --AC unit filters were dirty and needed cleaning --toilet and shower room very small--could hardly close the door. --the breakfast room is a dungeon--hidden in the bowels of the Hotel and very small. This is an old property that is in dire need of a renovation and new furniture. Paid $100+ for the night--overpriced for what you get. I know I paid for the location, not the room, but this was bad.

    « Okay for price »

We stayed here for two nights so we could go to Portland, Wiscasset, Freeport and our other usual destinations in this area. I should have known that you get what you pay for and I wish I had booked a nicer place. Though we got an updated room, it was still rather shabby. The sheets were old and full of small bumps and pills. The place was clean enough and the people at the desk helpful. As I said, the place is okay, but spring for a nicer place if you can.

    « Get a renovated room or don't stay »

Used soap in soap dish, water up to your ankles - tub does not drain, door needs insulation - air pours in, curtains do not block the lights from outside. If they tell you your room is an outside room, DON'T take it - they are not renovated and that is where we ended up. I do believe, once they finish the renovation, it would improve my rating. Beds were good.

    « Pleasant surprise »

We were there for a softball tournament. We stayed in the back of the hotel which were drive up rooms. I was a little concerned with this at first but turned out it was perfect. The kids could hang out without disturbing other guests and easy to carry in all of the luggage and softball gear The rooms were clean. The beds were comfortable. I think I may have gotten lucky because other people in our group did not find the beds comfortable. The continental breakfast is the best free breakfast I have ever received. anything and everything you could possibly want was offered. Great value for a hotel. The water pressure was good; didn't run out of hot water at all. Easy check in and check out. I wasn't offered an express check out but when I called the front desk I was able to check out right over the phone. Kids had a blast in the pool that was heated . I would recommend this hotel if staying the Portland area.

« GREAT STAY AND PLAY »

The staff was overly helpful, extremely people-oriented, and super friendly. The breakfast was very tasty with plenty of items to choose. We had dinner one night and the food was excellent - not "hotel" food. The specials they had were reasonably priced, plentiful, and appetizing. We are so glad we came. This is what a hotel should be.

    « Love this hotel »

Great hotel in a convenient location. Love the outdoor year round heated pool. Nice clean rooms. Some rooms are nicer than others as some have been renovated and updated. Beds are comfortable. We have stayed here three times in the last year. Twice on the most recent trip and would have stayed all three nights here but there were no rooms available on one of our nights in Portland. Pet friendly hotel. Would definitely stay her again.

« Perfect Location for Business and Tourism »

It was my Business Travel . First time to City of Portland,Maine .But I really liked the diversity of tourism and recreation activities of Portland. Large size Shopping Malls and lot of Food Options with Great Chains of Restaurants serving all type of Global Foods. I recommend to visit this place as tourist and enjoy Whale Sites, Rafting, Swimming and Beaching activities here

    « Another fabulous stay »

The updates to the Merry Manor are amazing. As a handicapped person, the new outside covered entrance to the rooms is such a welcomed asset. My most favorite room 258 now boasts a new floor (no rug) yay! The widescreen TV, brand new couch, much welcomed massage chair and soft comfy clean beds with fluffy pillows are just part of why I love this hotel. The complimentary breakfast with such a huge selection just makes this such an amazing value. I send everyone I know to this hotel!!!! We also took advantage of the hot tub and heated outside pool.

« Great place for families »

This hotel is our favorite whenever we come to the Portland area. From the warm friendly staff to the clean comfortable room and beds, free breakfast and wifi, to the fantastic indoor outdoor pool this is the perfect hotel! It is close to downtown Portland, the Maine Mall and only a short 20 minute drive to Old Orchard Beach.

    5
    « Excellent hotel »

The room was spacious and clean. I felt relaxed and very comfortable with the room and the service from the staff. I left before breakfast was available, so the staff provided coffee and snacks, and a newspaper for those who checked out early.

    « Get a way »

This hotel has a wonderful location, right off Route 295. Both scenic & historical sites nearby to explore. If you are a shopper, The Maine Mall is just up the road. Hotel is clean and pleasant with a heated pool and spa area to enjoy some down time. I would return and recommend this facility.

« Great amenities. Great price. Great value. »

Very comfortable room, king size bed, LARGE flat screen TV with good selection of channels, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, WiFi, transport carts for luggage, soft water, plenty of hot water with good water pressure, courteous professional service, very convenient location with easy access to both downtown and the burbs without downtown parking costs. GREAT value!

    « Nice stay for a convention »

The staff were very friendly. Our room was clean and quiet (except when about 12 motorcycles parked just a few feet from our window at about 9PM - - VERY noisy) The location is very convenient to the Mall and many other shops. 1o minutes from down town.

« Awesome and large breakfast selections! »

This place is conveniently located in south portland, maine. A gasoline by walking distance. Good and huge breakfast selections than the other best westerns i stayed before! They will even give you a take out box if you want to bring some for a friend/family member that cant go to the dining AreA. The breakfast room was located at the end of the hotel. Huge swimming pool but the waterfall was not working though. Our rooms had so many towels and bar soaps! 2 sinks and lots of cups to be used! Thats a big plus! Only negative are the doors not closing properly without using a little force thats why you can hear "bangs" all the time. But overall! It is highly recommended! When you want to eat some lobster rolls on a budget! Go to scarborough lobsters- they have delicious rolls and bayleys lobster pound has good seafood with a view and good lobsters to take home! This hotel is clean , comfortable and awesome! Recommended!!!

« Older Hotel but a massage chair in the room SCORE ! »

Older but well kept hotel, and a massage chair in the room, my husband loved it ! but guys beware the seat on the toilet will not stay up while you use it. The lid on the tank hangs over so far that the seat hits it. Comfortable bed, great cookies when you check in at 3pm. The breakfast room could be laid out better, but good eats ! No reason to stay elsewhere and pay more. Free Parking, Free WiFi and Free Breakfast

    « Thumbs Up »

Excellent value, friendly and courteous staff. The free breakfast was better than the typical continental style. The room was clean and the king bed was comfortable. Try it for yourself, you wont be disappointed. I'll stay here anytime I'm traveling to the Portland area.

    3
« Decent value, but avoid the 1xx rooms »

3.5 stars. Most of the rooms are numbered above 200, and those open onto interior corridors. But rooms numbered 1xx open onto the back parking lot directly. Noisy, since any trucks park back there. Lots of light incursion around the curtains. Lots of air incursion around and beneath the door (particularly important during winter). And if you buy at Priceline or Kayak or Expedia, etc, you're particularly likely to end up in those rooms. On the other hand, the included breakfast is probably the best I've seen in a motor hotel, the location is pretty convenient and the price (compared to the overpriced Portland hotel market generally) is pretty decent.

    5
    « Leisurely stay »

Hotel was very clean and quiet. Breakfast is wonderful, much more than your traditional 'continental breakfast'. Food very good and staff very pleasant and helpful. Great access to many attractions and beaches.

  • 4
« Very convenient location - directly in front of the interstate extension. »

Very friendly staff and well kept facility. The rooms were clean and the air conditioner was efficient. Breakfast in the adjoining restaurant was good. The only negative was that the spa was not as well kept as we would have expected.

« Best Western is our standing favorite! »

We stayed affordably with our 4 children, this time in one of the external-entrance rooms (more like a motel room) which made it much easier to lug things from the car right outside our door, and much easier to get the kids in and out quickly and easily (no long hallways, just open the door and get in the car). Though we love the fireplace suite we stayed in last time, the convenience and value of the external room added to an enjoyable vacation. The double queen room included an easy chair and ottoman, and a desk and office chair, in addition to large flat-screen TV and a hutch with microwave, minifridge, and coffee maker. The beds were VERY comfortable, with luxury sheets, down-alternative mattress topper, and extremely soft duvet, that made us want to stay in bed longer, and a selection of pillows that guaranteed finding one that was just right. Everything was clean and well-appointed. One thing we did have to do, was unplug the coffee maker from its position in the hutch, because the cord was barely able to stretch to the power strip behind, which meant we couldn't pull it out to use it. But that was solved by unplugging it from behind, and moving it to the granite washroom/dressing room counter. The toilet and bathtub room was tight to the point of claustrophobic, because it was separated from the sink/counter/dressing area, but that was a sensible arrangement for privacy. As always, the breakfast buffet was very good and ample, with make-your-own pancake and waffle stations, choices of bagels, muffins, toast, warming trays full of scrambled eggs, cheese omelettes, link sausages, and bacon, and choices of cereals, juices, yogurt and toppings, and hot beverages. The coffee was merely okay, but that is not a big deal, since there are so many excellent micro-roasters and barristas in Portland to choose from for something more than the first eye-opener. However, if they switched to Carrabasset Coffee, they would have great in-house coffee as well. We were glad that there were gluten-free options for one of our kids. The staff were helpful and polite, and a man pushing a laundry cart toward a freight elevator greeted me politely when I passed by while his door was open. I was impressed with that kind of courtesy without having to pay a lot, not just from front-desk staff, but even from employees without such a public role. The indoor-outdoor heated pool was sparkling clean and pleasant even in a brisk May breeze, and the waterfall hot tub is one of the big reasons we stay here rather than getting a suite with full kitchen, elsewhere. We got by on the microwave and minifridge, because that pool and hot tub is half the pleasure of our stay! On our last day, we grilled poolside, using the nice propane grill there for guest use. Swimming at dusk and after dark was especially nice with the soft glow of garden lights all around, and the changing colors of the pool lights, in the water. Something new we noticed this time, was a USB device charging station by the bedside lamp, so if you forget your charger, you're covered! We look forward to staying at the Best Western Merry Manor Inn, any time we stay in Portland, and seek out Best Westerns elsewhere when we travel, because we have come to trust the cleanliness, courtesy, and value.

    « Very pleasant experience »

I am a travel agent and rate hotels from time to time on Tripadvisor. I stayed at the Best Western Merry Manor last weekend. I was very pleased with the over all experience at this hotel. From the check in to the check out, everyone was very pleasant and accommodating. The staff could not have been friendlier. The breakfast that is included is called a continental breakfast. I would call it a full breakfast. There was a LARGER selection hot and cold breakfast items. I would call it a full breakfast. The pool area was very nice. The pool is an indoor outdoor pool that is open year round. It was very warm even for my standards. The hot tub was also very nice with a waterfall at one end. I can't express it enough, this is a nice hotel that I would highly recommend!!

    4
    « Great Place! »

The staff was wonderful. The room was clean. We enjoyed the hot tub. The complimentary beverages were a nice treat along with the discount provided for the Maine Restaurant right next door. The breakfast was amazing. Would definitely stay again.

    4
    « Good value at a discount »

Found this hotel through a an on-line booking site. We were only there one night and it was fine. The continental breakfast was not gourmet but certainly adequate. I'd happily stay here again for the discounted price I paid. Not sure I'd be as happy at the full, tourist season price

« Maine Lake Lodge Room »

It was awesome! All of our friends thought we were away in The Great North Woods and couldn't believe it when we told them we were in Portland. The hotel was very unassuming. You couldn't tell from the out side what beautiful room awaited us. The hotel is an older hotel, but was very clean. The staff was very helpful. It was a great stay.

« Good place for the price »

Spent last Friday night in Portland and stopped at this hotel. Location was convenient and $80 for a room sounded great! Front desk girl was very busy but she welcomed us in a professional manner and did a great job multitasking. Room was ok, could use some renovation but again, fine for the price. Had a tub and a fridge - win! The reason I didn't give place higher score in their paper thin walls! What a nightmare our neighbors were! We could not only here them talk, we could here videos they were watching on their phones!!! Complimentary breakfast was great and we enjoyed an outdoor pool area! Hotel also has a great restaurant on site.

    4
« Great stay for reasonable price! »

Found this hotel on line. We were pleasantly surprised how clean and cozy our room is. I use the gym daily, it is small and basic but at least I can get a workout in. Front desk help is pleasant and knowledgeable . The continental breakfast is awesome. Great variety. Great location easy access to major roads, easy to get to Old Port.

« Do Not Stay Here if ou Have a Mobility Issue »

The Best Western Merry Manor is very well located, with large ,comfortable rooms, at a reasonable price. However, if you have a mobility issue or are older, it is difficult getting to the breakfast room. In order to access it, you must either, go outside(it was raining anad cold) and walk to the next building, where the breakfast room is located, or walk inside the hotel, down several long hallways. Also, the rooms need to be updated.

    2
    « Disappointing »

I would stay here again for a variety of reasons: - I requested extra towels and toiletries (we were four guests - two adults and two children) at the time of my booking and did not receive them. - The shower drain was clogged and the tub would fill up quickly while taking a quick shower. - There were large stains on the armchair. - The beds were uncomfortable - very soft (although this is a matter of personal preference). - The parking by the exterior rooms is extremely limited and we had difficulty finding a spot when we returned to the hotel each evening. They should consider having designated spots for each of the exterior rooms. - The toilet/bath tub area is very cramped - uncomfortably so. - The AC unit is very loud and would loudly shut off and turn back on multiple times throughout the night, resulting in disruption of sleep. - The cleaning staff member assigned to our room was afraid of or disliked dogs. One of the primary reasons we booked at this hotel was because we brought our dog with us and this is supposed to be a pet friendly hotel. - During a weekend breakfast, I was left standing by the waffle maker with my young child for over 15 minutes after I told a staff member that the machine had run out of waffle batter while I was filling the measuring cup. On the plus side: - Breakfast was adequate - a variety of both hot and cold foods were available. - Front desk staff was friendly, welcoming and helpful. - Location is convenient - right next a gas station and very close access to the highway.

« Best Western Merry Manor Inn »

The folks here know how to treat their customers right. Very accommodating! Food was very good, and the service was too. The room had everything you could want. Parking was easy. It is a big place so the only thing was finding how to get to the right area. Even though we were their for a conference I noticed the kids enjoying the swimming pool, where you can swim inside and out.

« Clean and beautiful hotel with excellent staff »

This hotel is one of the very best I have ever stayed at. The room was spacious and clean. It included a wonderful massage chair which was great after having been driving for several hours. Microwave, refrigerator and bar sink were additional benefits. The continental breakfast was superb, with a wide variety of fresh fruit, coffees, eggs, bacon, waffles etc. It also felt like an extremely safe hotel, with entry through the front lobby. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Of particular note was Laura at the front desk- welcoming, kind and extremely helpful. They are lucky to have such a great person representing them at the desk. Freshly baked cookies in the afternoon completed the experience. I didn't get to use the pool or excercise room, but they too looked clean and accommodating. A wonderful hotel all in all!

    « business convention »

This was a very brief (1 night) stay but the hotel has a great indoor/outdoor pool which is rare in Maine, and a big draw. Very convenient to the Mall area attractions, and very reasonably priced. Buffett was provided for our event and food was good, hot and plentiful. Breakfast is included with the price of your room, and was also very good. Family and pet friendly makes this a good deal.

    5
    « A comfortable stay »

We were in Portland for a vet visit, with a cat that needed tests and evaluations. A 3 hour drive from home, so we stayed for a couple nights. This hotel was convenient, less expensive than other area hotels, and very comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.

    5
« Comfy beds, excellent pool »

Always feel like we are coming home when we stay at the Merry Manor. We use it for leisure and business when we have meetings in Portland. A stay overnight in a comfy bed after a swim in the heated outside pool is the best gift to oneself!

Conveniently located and large heated indoor/outdoor pool and hot tub. Clean rooms, despite a little run down. Tiny bathroom, but for 2 nights, it was sufficient. Nice having extra sink outside of bathroom. Staff is friendly, and continental breakfast included was very good. Excellent value. Lots of extras included like 24 hr coffee available, cookies in afternoon, breakfast and pool.

    « Clean »

Just stayed at the Merry Manor Inn. Very friendly staff. The hotel needs to be updated, but it is very clean. Really comfortable beds , and a great massage chair. The TV's are a good size and they come in great. Nice outdoor pool heated year round, you enter it through the room where the hot tub is. Good size hot tub, It isn't as big as it looks in the pictures. This area has a place where there are comfortable chairs and tables. Very cozy. You can't hear screaming kids cause they are in a different area. I would recommend this hotel. If you are looking for elegance it is a no.

    « Great value »

This is the second time in two years we have stayed at this hotel and we were not disappointed. The room was clean and neat, the lobby was clean also. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Next trip to Portland we will stay here again.

    « Vacation with grand-children »

Great place to plan a mini vacation. The outdoor heated pool and waterfall spa are the ammenities that brings me back. My advice is to spend at least two nights. Location is close to resturants, shopping, Old Orchad Beach and the IMAX theater in Saco. We did experience a problem posting to Facebook using a Sony camera that has internet capability, the posts of our trip had to wait until we returned. I am uncertain if all my past visits are being added to my REWARDS status. Coupons from the EDGE paper make the choice to stay here a no brainer.

    4
« Typical Best Western hotel »

Stayed just one night. The hotel was nicely located and easy to find. Although a large hotel it was quiet enough, solid WiFi (free), two queen sized comfortable beds, fridge and microwave in the room.

    4
    « Weekend with friends »

Was a wonderful experience to swim from the inside of the hotel out into the cooler weather. We enjoyed this very much. Was a very nice location to access the mall. Loved having dining attached to the hotel. Music for the hotel ended at 9 pm would like to have seen it last a little longer.

    5
« Great place to relax »

We where there to get away and unwind after a difficult day. The pool and hot tub were fantastic and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and had some unexpected bonus with a massaging chair and a separate kitchen area.

    2
    « Inadequate bathroom space »

The room I stayed in was recently remodeled. The bathroom had about 1 foot of space on each side of the toilet and the space between the toilet and the door was literally about 3". Needless to say, that a large built person would not have enough room to go in the bathroom and shut the door. To add to the bad design, not only did the shower have granite type smooth walls with no place to put the soap and shampoo, but the fridge is so close to the outside counter in the corner, that with the door opening away from you, makes it difficult to access the fridge.

    3
« As Expected, Nice Hotel »

Easy check in, friendly staff. Clean room, comfortable bed. Standard selection for breakfast but decent and well stocked. Ate dinner in hotel restaurant. Not very busy but good food and good portions.

    2
« out dated hotel room »

I went to the best western hotel with my dad and my brother william the kitchen in the room was out dated the bathroom was also out dated and the beds were out dated to the pool room was just your ordinary pool room. i will never go back to the best western hotel in south portland maine ever again.

« Great place, good price, REAL BACON! »

« Portland on a budget? This is the place! »

I stay at the Merry Manor very often. It's like a home away from home. They have recently been upgrading the property and the improvements are looking good. I've been lucky enough to be upgraded to some of the hotels luxurious suites. The Bear Camp lodge is my favorite. Bring your swim suit, the pool is heated and open year round in our cold New England climate. Fabulous property. Cheaper than downtown Portland with all the amenities your looking for.

    4
    « Comfortable »

On our weekend away we found the BW/Merry Manor to be very comfortable and just what we needed for a quiet weekend together. The beds were very comfrie and our room was clean. They also furnish you with extra towels and washclothes which alot of hotels dont. I will recommend Merry Manor to our friends and family.

    « Week end away »

We had a good experience at the Merry manor in Portland Maine on 3/18. The room was ready on arrival. The staff was very helpful on check-in and check-out. The amenities were clean. Breakfast was very good. We will go back there again when we go to Portland again.

« great group reunion location »

We had a wonderful group reunion weekend there and were very happy with the staff and the facilities. Don and his crew in Group Events were pleasant and more than willing to help us organize the event and pointed out numerous different ways that we could use the various facilities there. Bill and the kitchen staff prepared us several wonderful meals and even came through for those with gluten free concerns. No one went away hungry for sure. The event staff were also very accommodating and had no issues when we asked for a meeting room last minute and an extra table at the big dinner. Everyone wants to have another reunion next year already! Our highest kudos to the whole staff there.

    « Not what expected »

Hotel pool was disappointing to say the least. Cleanliness was the main concern as the hot tub was cloudy and there was gravel from the pool area at the bottom of the tub. The pool bathroom was filthy as there were live ants crawling around in a mound at the base of the toilet. Ive been to bathrooms at gas stations that were in much better condition. The hotel room we stayed in seemed very clean despite being out dated. Would definitely not recommend an exterior room because the level of noise from cars pulling up to foot traffic walking by interrupted sleep. Blackout curtains were an inch too short to block out street light in parking lot at night and the morning sun. The Drop ceiling in room was off putting and was the only part of the room that seemed truly dingy. The food at the restaurant was ok, the pizza seemed a step above a box pizza although the burger was quite good. Our waitress was really pleasant. The restauarnt like the rooms was dark and out dated but from what I could see seemed clean.

« What one would expect from a BW »

We have been visiting the BW for several years now. We know what to expect and are pleased with what is offered. Great array for breakfast items - seems to get better with each trip. The buffet seems to work for week-end warriors as the numbers are so many. Great pool - indoor/outside. Who can boast that they can swim outdoors during the winter? Yes, it is heated. We have had two room issues in the past several years at this BW. They immediately have accommodated our request. We have noticed the upgrades each season when we visit. Can't change the location, which is just off the highway and close to many shopping, tourist attractions. Of all the BW we frequent, this is the best for all the above mentioned.

    « Staycation »

We typically enjoy coming to this motel for a little winter getaway close to home. We enjoy using the pool. They are a pet friendly motel but we had a weird experience this time. We have stayed several times over the past 10yrs. The motel called my cell phone while I was in our room to tell me to come back and tend to my dog because they had a noise complaint. Like I said I was in my room at the time so I am not sure where I was supposed to be coming from and my dogs were not barking then. Why call my cell, how about call the room?? IDK it was just a weird time.

« Merry Meeting Inn was highly recommended by one of the music teachers in Hancock County. »

The location for us who were attending the Maine state jazz competition was very convenient - the price was reasonable and the room was clean and comfortable. We liked that our car was able to be right outside our room since we got in very late at night both nights we were there. I would definitely recommend this motel to anyone who was coming to the high school.

« Exactly what we needed »

Clean, comfortable bed, friendly staff, great experience! Not super close to downtown but right off the highway and great for our needs. Overall an excellent value with a solid onsite restaurant. Nothing is really walkable from this location, but if you are in town to visit friends, family, or don't mind driving the few minutes in to old port, it really is a nice stay for a great price.

Thrilled to share with our friends the amazing experience of staying at my favorite motel in Maine. From the great staff at check in to the experience of swimming outside in winter!!! The motel was full but the rooms were quiet, clean and comfortable! Free all you can eat buffet Breakfast sure impressed them also. Thanks again everyone for a great experience. The upgrades are awesome and we look forward to coming again soon.

    « Geat location »

We loved the pool and the availability of hot coffee and tea anytime you like in the lobby. The hottub could have been turned up a bit to be at the temp. needed but was very enjoyable with the waterfall.

    « Respite »

Excellent staff, well run and very clean rooms. The pool hours accommodate early risers and allow a swim after an evening out. The free breakfast bar has many options to select from and the hostess keeps the serving area and tables clean. This is our choice for the greater Portland area-good access to roads and again-well managed hotel.

    4
    « Great Value »

The room layout was different than most and offered more privacy, space and convenience. The room was clean, comfortable and even had a vibrating lounge chair. The television was a larger new flat screen, which I enjoyed. Plenty of TV channels all free. My room was on the first floor and I was able to park my car right outside my window.

Whenever we visit Portland the Merry Manor is our "Go To" place. We feel so comfortable going there, as they are consistently a great place, with an awesome staff, nice breakfast, clean rooms, and good exercise room, and pool.. The staff have such a Positive attitude and are genuine and down to earth. Of all the places we have stayed over the years, my wife and I always stay here, as it is one of the very best. We would highly recommend it to others. Of note, is that the staff have worked here for many years. That, in itself tells you something about the quality of the establishment. Kudos to all of them for a job well done. :)

opened my soap from a box while in shower then noticed a curly hair embedded into my soap, they reused a soap and put it back in box. I wasn't very happy for what they had done. Maybe they can have the soaps that r in the wrapper.

« Love to outdoor pool »

We always use this motel when in the Portland, Maine area because of the year round indoor-outdoor swimming pool, huge hot tub with a waterfall. We have been known to swim in a snowstorm, sunshine, it is well heated, the hot tub huge with a waterfall

    « Great experience »

Good location. Love the outdoor heated pool. Has a restaurant but is close to the Maine Mall and many food establishments. Friendly staff and good breakfast buffet. Improvements the past year to the lobby, business center, snack area enhance the stay. Plenty of towels at the pool.

« Great place to stay with indoor/outdoor pool »

I've stayed at the Merry Manor Inn twice, and enjoyed the facility immensely. The main reason I enjoy this location is the unique indoor/outdoor year round pool. We visit in the winter and enjoy the heated pool even though its freezing outside. The rooms are comfortable and the breakfast buffet is great.

    « Vacation Trip »

Overall the stay at the Merry Manor was delightful. Close to resturants and shopping. We stayed here because of location for a trip to Lincoln New Hampshire to visit the Ice Castle display. Direct route from Portland with an enjoyable trip through the White mountains. Was dissappointed the second morning of the stay to find the hot tub under maintenaince. The reason I always coose this hotel is for the heated outdoor pool and hot tub. I would recommend the Merry Maor to all.

    « Pleasurable »

We were able to relax for a couple of days away from the rat race of everyday living. Sometimes you just need to take some down time and let your body refuel. This was the perfect solution for that purpose. We just enjoyed each other's company and did nothing but relax.

« Easy access to major roads! Fun pool! Great Breakfast! »

We met up with several other people for a quick winter get-a-way. Enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The rooms where clean. It was close to the highway and down town Portland for bars and food. We will definitely be coming back again!

    « Excellent experience »

I've always loved the Merry Manor and have stayed there 20 or 30 times at this point with and without husband and/or family. Why it's a great place: super friendly and helpful staff, sparkling clean rooms, huge and comfortable beds, massage chairs, free wifi. The location is very good -- particularly easy to get to the airport (and beach and downtown Portland). Their restaurant, The Maine Table, has delicious food (high praise in a foodie town) and a really inviting bar. Perfect place to unwind. The best feature of all, though, is the outdoor, heated pool. There's almost nothing better than swimming under the stars while it snows. Best tip: bring your swimsuit. I was fortunate enough to stay in the Forest Lake Suite on my last visit (see photos). What a treat. The room has the feel of a rustic log cabin with so much attention paid to detail in the decor -- plus a whirlpool tub. It was a real treat. I had a VERY early flight this last visit and the desk person had to give me a couple of wake up calls to get me moving (much appreciated) and they had hot coffee waiting in the lobby and breakfast boxed and ready to go.

« The room was great but..... »

Although it may not seem it from this review, I don't typically even write reviews but This is a nice hotel and with some minor changes it could be great! The location of this hotel is great, it is right off 295/95, very easy to get to. We arrived 30 minutes after check in time and still had to wait for our room to be ready, not a huge deal.... we get to our room only to find the couch had chips and candy under the cushions. They did send someone up to take care of that. The room itself was great, clean(other than the chips), cozy and comfy. The only thing that would make it better was another comfy chair and one TV rather than two just better placement. One of the remotes did not work! We went to the restaurant, seemed nice, good menu but had to wait about an hour for our food. The pizza was pretty good! Our next stop was the pool. As advertised the pool was heated, even with the very cold weather is was nice. The pool and hot tub area was very busy but we made our way to the hot tub. The hot tub is very nice however the parents nor the hotel pay attention to the stated rules of no kids under 14 in the hot tub. This made it very difficult to truly enjoy! If the hotel is not going to enforce the rules may they could add an adult only time at the end of the night. Breakfast would have been enjoyable but again the area was very busy and not large enough to accommodated the crowd. As we were trying to find a place to eat we went to the restaurant where the staff yelled at us and told us the overflow was upstairs, now mind you there are NO signs telling us this. The upstairs area was a bit dingy and VERY cold. By the time I had half my breakfast it was cold!

    « BEST Best Western »

This is my favorite hotel in the Portland area. Very convenient to the Maine Mall, Route 95, and downtown. The staff is great. They even remember what room I like. Fresh cookies every night and fresh coffee every time I go for it. Beware of the restaurant next door.

« We keep going back »

We have been frequent guests of the Merry Manor for the past 11 years. The staff has always been very friendly and even remembers us! This is a very family friendly (and pet friendly) hotel. It is located very close to both the mall and downtown area. The free breakfast is excellent! It has eggs, pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage, many beverage options and more.

    « Nice place »

So we came to the Merry Manor in for a one night stay when my daughter, myself, and mother in-law came for a concert! The thing that really sold us when booking was the outside heated pool! My daughter absolutely loved that part while I myself was very pleased with the hot tub! We will stay again soon and will bring the whole family!

« Best place to stay in Portland area »

If you are looking for a wonderful, friendly and comfortable hotel, look no farther than the Merry Manor Best Western in South Portland. From the friendly and helpful staff, to the free breakfast, outdoor year round heated pool to the comfortable rooms and beds, you can't beat this hotel! Have you ever gone swimming in a blizzard and had a snowball fight in the pool? You can do that here, and be warm! We have been coming to the Merry Manor for 20 years and never even consider a different hotel when we are in the Portland area.

We are here for work and this place is awesome. Beds are super comfy breakfast selection is huge and where else can you end your day swimming in an outdoor pool in January in Maine. Staff here is very helpful.

    « Great for families! »

First time here, was fantastic. The staff very helpful. Breakfast had many choices, even appealed to finicky children. The only issue was the outdoor heated pool was on the cold side. Staff had said a broken heater. This didn't keep children out but it w too cold form the adults.

    « Great Value »

Merry Manor is already a known quantity to us and we are highly likely to stay there in the future. On this particular occasion, after a hard couple of weeks, we elected to go with an enhanced room which turned out to be a very great bargain! The room had a hot tub and a fireplace and we made good use of both. Though it may be a while before we feel such a need to unwind, Merry Manor has become our accomodation of choice any time we are very far south of Down'East Maine!

    5
    « Above and Beyond »

Unable to have breakfast in the restaurant because of hour of work, the staff prepares a breakfast to go that is so thoughtful. The front desk staff is just about the best I have experienced, They definitely go above and beyond

My wife and I found this place last August by reading reviews right here and decided to try it out. Awesome experience. Great location (minutes from downtown and old port) large, clean rooms, friendly staff who go out of their way to meet your needs and a great FREE breakfast that goes beyond normal continental standards. We just completed our third stay there and will be returning in two months. This has become our place in southern Maine. Thanks to the awesome staff for everything! See you soon!

We had a small conference here and it was great. The people are extremely helpful and attentive. The rooms are clean and the price is great. The Maine Table is a good restaurant with a nice bar. Food is good.

« Big rooms. Clean and comfortable. »

I have stayed at this hotel many times and have never been disappointed. Clean comfortable large rooms with two sinks. Nice soaps and shampoos. Beds are plush but firm with many pillows. The hotel is sound proofed well. Hot breakfast included and there is a restaurant on site. Easy access from the Maine Turnpike. Staff is efficient and accommodating.

    « Satisfied customer »

Great value, comfort and all season outdoor pool provides great memories. Breakfast choices was very good and included in the stay. Pleased with the early check. Was great to have a motel that allowed me to take my dog and just for $10.00. I will certainly plan another stay in the near future. The motel was close to several stores and returants.

    « It works »

If you are just looking for a place to stay without much extra, this isn't bad. The price reflects what you get. It is an old building, but they are keeping it clean. It has an indoor-outdoor pool, but the indoor portion is the size of a bathtub. The breakfast was quite a bonus. We thought it would be typical continental, but they added several extra hot items, which were good. The staff was very nice.

    4
« love the pool and hot tub »

The room was a good size. Bed super comfy. Even had a fireplace and a message recliner. My kids loved it and so did me and my wife. But the pool was the best. Warm water. You could swim outside and have the snow coming down was awesome.

the rooms were clean. but very small. the bathroom you could hardly turn around in. other then that not bad for just one night. the resturant was very good. the staff was good on checking inn and out. We had four people in room with 2 queen beds. and only had enough shampoo and conditioner for two people plus only one small bar of soap in shower for two people. one small bar of soap in sink area. WASN'T really set upset completely of two couples. enough towels for everyone. but that's it .

« Amazing Hotel! Great Service! »

We really love this hotel! We checked in with Laura, who was a very sweet and friendly woman. We were given tickets for a complimentary breakfast at the restaurant attached to the hotel, The Maine Table, which was delicious! The hotel was very clean. Everyone we came across was very friendly. We felt very welcome and at home. The indoor/outdoor pool was very fun and warm both inside and out. We would definitely recommend this hotel! We will be visiting again!

« Fun pool and nice breakfast »

The hotel is old, no doubt about it , but they have worked to keep things updated and it's clean. Beds are nice, out door heated pool is TONS of fun in the winter. Breakfast was great. Staff always pleasant. We've been passing through this area for 20 years and have always found a good experience when staying at this hotel. We've tried others but always seem to end up coming back here.

    « Great service »

The service at the hotel was outstanding: the staff was very accommodating. My car broke down and they were very helpful in helping me find a mechanic to go to. I would recommend it to all my friends and family! The breakfast was hot and ready everyday, even when we tricked down stairs late they would wait for us to finish before they cleared it all alway

    « Great Hotel »

I really enjoy this Hotel. LOVE the heated out door pool, so relaxing. We take the family every year in the winter and enjoy the breakfast and the heated outside pool. Each year we go it seems to improve and love how kind the staff are. Also we forgot a few things like deodorant and tooth brush and they just gave it to us at the desk.

Stayed here for 1 night on our way to Bar Harbour. Typical motel decent sized room which had everything you'd need eg coffee machine and even a microwave. Breakfast was buffet style, best thing about it was they had a pancake making machine. Ok for a one night stop off.

Large indoor/outdoor heated pool, clean and well lit for night time swimming under the stars. Kids had plenty of room in the family suite. Fantastic free breakfast, lots of variety to please each of the kids breakfast cravings. Quiet and spacious rooms. Bathroom in need of updating. WiFi easy to access, no hassle. Overall a very satisfying stay and will likely return.

« Strange Layout, Cool Spa »

This property looks like it has been added onto over the years resulting in a very strange layout. The front lobby and check in are in the front area closest to the road but, if you have any heavy luggage, the elevators are way in the back, with the overall design causing a lot of driving and/or walking back and forth. The breakfast room is also in an out-of-the-way location so you have to follow signs down hallways and corridors to get there. Rooms were nice, clean, and reasonably priced; some face a wooded area in the rear, most look out on the parking lot or road. Complimentary breakfast was good, after we finally found it. The heated outdoor pool was great, with an entrance to it from inside the room housing the spa and kiddie pool. But we were there in October, when it was cool, so unless you kept yourself under the water as much as possible, it was a bit nippy swimming outside. When we tried to use the spa, we found the water only luke warm. I called the front desk and was told it was "at the legal limit" of 93. When I finally contacted the manager, I was told that I was given wrong information; the spa should have been at 103. She apologized and took something off our bill for the inconvenience. (Thanks!)

    « Felt like home. »

From the moment we walked in to register at the desk, I could tell that this was a welcoming place. There were two veterans at the desk in front of me checking out and getting some directions. The clerks were kind and very helpful to them and thanked them for their service. It was clear they wanted the men to feel they were welcome to be there. Our room was perfectly comfortable with plenty of security and amenities available to us. We will always recommend this place. Breakfast was plenty, hot and delicious. The room was well maintained by staff that worked quietly and almost invisibly. We could easily carry on a conversation.

    2
    « Disappointed »

This used to be my go to. However, my recent visit proved to be less than pleasant. Ceiling above bed was crumbling, the door to enter room had significant damage. We were unable to use interior lock because it was dangling by glue. Breakfast was ice cold. I told staff and they apologized and said," we will microwave it." Hopefully, they bring it up to former standards.

    5
    « Another awesome stay. »

There have been a lot of improvements since my last visit. The pool area looks great and the free breakfast for everyone is a really welcome change. This saves us about $50.00. The staff is so friendly and helpful. They remember and welcome us back. We always enjoy our stay.

    « Pleasant stay »

Very pleased with this hotel. Easy access to 295 and route one. Room was very clean and furnished with a microwave and refrigerator. Beds and pillows super comfy. The room had two sinks which is a nice feature. The pool area features a large hot tub and pool but didn't have time to use but people in it said it was very nice. The breakfast area had many hot and cold items included in price. Had supper at the restaurant and was excellent! Would stay again.

« Great value for the price »

We booked this hotel for the night for a family wedding after comparing prices in downtown Portland. Really great value - clean rooms, nice staff and an awesome indoor/outdoor pool. It was a ten minute drive to our destination. The complementary breakfast was good - enough to satisfy a variety of diets. The staff is very friendly.

« Great day with the grandchildren »

We choose this hotel because of the winter outdoor pool. My granddaughters loved it and were in the outdoor winter pool for 3 hours. The will remember this experience. We had been there once before and our Oldest granddaughter still remembers swimming out side while it was snowing. The experience this time will also be a fond memory for our youngest 3 granddaughters.

« Great Place to Stay »

The rooms are very nice, clean and comfortable if slightly outdated in decor. The staff was just wonderful, helpfully explaining things like best places to park and giving maps of the hotel without needing to be asked for them. The attached restaurant is surprisingly good. They go out of their way to use local suppliers, and they have an excellent tap list. If you're a beer geek, you'll really like it. It will give you a chance to try out some good, Maine beers. If you go in the off season, this place is a steal.

« Great Place to Stay »

Loved this hotel. My PTSD dog travels with me when I work, the room I was given was a perfect fit for us making it very easy for his potty breaks. Our room was very nice and the bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever been in. Breakfast was very tasty a nice choice of items. Beautiful pool area. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to the Portland area.

    « Amazing Pool! »

The hotel is a great value. It's not fancy or in a great location, but the pool is amazing. It's very close to downtown Portland so it's super convenient. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Breakfast is included and I think was not as good as last year, but there were a lot of choices...muffins, waffles, pancakes, eggs, bacon, juice, fruit. Pretty much something for anyone.

    « Excellent hotel, great 3 nights »

Let me start by saying that we booked this hotel through southwest. After reading reviews I decided on here for 3 nights in Maine. Very convenient location, not in downtown but you can be there in less than 5 minutes. I know it was off season but we didn't hear a sound the entire time we were there. Rooms were clean, hallways could probably use a crevice tool cleaning, but still not bad. They were doing maintenance on the pool and attempted to call and let me know ahead of time. Room was a neat layout with 2 sinks, one in the bathroom and one out, which makes for quicker times getting ready to go out. Mattress was comfy. Best feature, this place had a frigging massage chair. Would highly recommend this place for anyone.

    « A work in progress »

First off the staff was very friendly, from reservation to check in to calling to see if we needed anything. The hotel seems to be going through a much needed and major renovation. Because of that the lobby is a bit of a mess and the pool is currently closed. We stayed in a "relaxation suite". The fireplace was awesome the massage chair was great as well. We enjoyed the huge tv and bed. The room itself, and especially the carpet, were a bit run down, however. Because we were upstairs it felt like we were all alone which was good and bad. Some of the rooms were propped open which was a bit sketchy. The free breakfast was good, hot, and all you can eat. The problem was you have to walk a ways through what feels like a maze to get there. This hotel is very close to a lot of the Portland things to do. All that being said I would like to come back when everything is fixed to see it at its best.

    4
« What more could you ask for than a waterfall in the hottub? »

A waterfall in the hottub and a year round heated outdoor pool. Some rooms have fireplaces and most have tasteful Wyeth prints. The formerly sub par restaurant has been replaced with a better one. Some rooms have fireplaces, just ask. And dogs are welcome.

Best Western Merry Manor, 700 Main South Portland, Maine Helped us immensely by delivering our bags to our room once United brought them to the hotel. Nice big room with GREAT, comfy bed. « Well thought out rooms and friendly staff! »

I was most impressed with how well thought out the rooms were. The one we stayed in (single king) had two sinks, one in the bathroom, and one in a partition that could be closed off to the rest of the room with a dual purpose closet door. Great design! New Tempurpedic mattress lent me one of the most restful nights of sleep I've had at a hotel. *Ample* towels were supplied. The waterfall Jacuzzi in the spa was awesome. Laura at the front desk made us feel very welcome and taken care of. Adding this place to my list of regular stays in Portland.

    4
    « Great stay! »

Clean, simple. Great pool and hot tub!! You get in the pool inside, but swim around outside. The temperature is very warm. The hot tub has a waterfall that can massage your back. We came to stay for one night, and we had a wonderful time. The room was nice and spacious. The kitchenette was great and useful. Nice shower.

    « Portland's Best »

In spite of construction, our stay at Merry Manor Inn in South Portland was excellent. The breakfast was terrific and the adjoining restaurant was excellent. Service was over the top. For me, the bed was a bit soft but still okay. The cost was reasonable, rooms very clean and trip was excellent.

« Just fine and a good value. »

We were headed to Portland for a concert and we didn't want to pay the high autumn prices at the downtown hotels. After all, we really just needed a place to sleep for one night and this hotel had good reviews, so we decided to take a shot. We booked a king bedroom for a mere $81, which was far less than any other reputable chain in the area. The hotel is right off the highway, maybe 10 minutes or so to downtown Portland, which is super convenient. Plenty of free parking and breakfast included, I have to admit I was skeptical. As it turns out, the place is just fine. Our room was spacious and clean, the bed very comfortable. Yes, the wallpaper was beginning to peel in a corner or two and the layout of the room was a bit odd, with a sort of alcove with a coffee maker and a small fridge as you enter the bathroom. Yes, the lobby area was undergoing a renovation to the outside façade, and wasn't all that inviting, but I'm sure it'll look nice when it's finished. The important things to us are cleanliness, comfort, and friendly, helpful staff. This hotel has all of that, even if it is an older property. Breakfast is standard continental with a few hot items, eggs sausages, bacon. There is some fruit, yogurt, bagels muffins, etc. Nothing special, but a nice freebie with your room. Check-in and check-out were fast and courteous. No complaints here. The praise this property receives is deserved. We would certainly consider staying here again.

« Great room and price »

Recently stayed here for a reunion. Staff was awesome, room was comfortable and the restaurant is amazing! The hotel is minutes away from the Maine Mall and its so easy to get to. Highly recommend for any type of stay. Child and pet friendly!

    « Nice, clean place »

Our room -- one with two queen beds -- seemed to be one of an older type. We also saw the rooms with one king bed, a massage chair, and two huge vanities, which seemed nicer and newer. Nevertheless, our room was clean, comfortable, and satisfactory. The breakfast was very good each morning, placed in a nice dining area with plenty of seating. Loved the blueberry muffins!

    4
« Great location , two minute to the Maine Mall »

Booked here for a three night stay over the past weekend. Super close to the Maine Mall. Not walking distance, but just a two minute drive. One morning people across the hall went for breakfast and their little DOG barked the whole time they were gone. Not the hotels fault, however maybe check for dogs in neighboring rooms upon check in. And dog owners please be considerate of other guest. There is an Irving convenience store in front of the hotel. The breakfast was wonderful. Homemade blueberry muffins, not packaged or frozen. Real to goodness homemade, seems like they were baked fresh daily. As well as fresh tea biscuits. They had a dual waffle makers and a HUGE tub of strawberries to spread on the waffle. We were in the area for a weekend shopping trip and this place certainly fit the bill. The Hotel is large and dated, though they are undergoing renovations to most of the property. Very pleasant staff.

« This place is great as long as your only slightly interested in the pool. »

I stayed here for a couple of weeks in early summer. I never had an issue with any staff (that's pretty rare for most places...). Shout out to Marco and Shane the bartenders, they were awesome. the rooms were always clean and maintained. Decent breakfast especially for free. the pool had some mild algae problems at one point but they kept it clean.

« Friendly Staff, Fabulous Breakfast! »

We were at the Merry Manor Inn for 5 nights. Housekeeping was good. Breakfast was a big surprise. Hot eggs, sausages and bacon. They even had corned beef hash and boston baked beans. The hotel is older but the rooms were nicely cleaned. It is an easy drive to downtown Portland and only 10 minutes from the airport. We were able to see lots of sites. The front desk attendants are very helpful when you ask about the area. Maine is beautiful~

« We stayed in the Main Lake Lodge room. »

This is a very convenient hotel in the Portland metropolitan area, as it has easy access to both downtown Portland and the nearby interstate if you were heading further up into northern Maine. Our room, a very reasonably priced one at that, was one of the two special rooms of the hotel. It displayed a rustic theme, and it was equipped with a fireplace and a hot tub bath. The breakfast buffet was above average, too. It was also a short drive to the Old Port area of Portland, and it was close to the Portland Headlight, also.

    « A birthday celebration »

The purpose of our get away was to celebrate my husband's birthday. The front desk staff was very nice and accommodating. We had a room that overlooked the pool, which was decorated very nicely for the Halloween/fall season, and the fact that it is an outdoor pool that is open year round, in Maine, is very nice. The breakfast room was small for the number of people and a little too industrial for my taste because it felt like we were tucked away in a corner somewhere, but the food was good. They need to have more staff, because it is a job too big for just one person. The room was clean and although they are doing some remodeling in the lobby, there was a nice warm fire going in the fireplace. I would recommend it to anyone that was staying in the area.

    « A great value »

We appreciative the amenities that BW provides. The rooms are always clean, the breakfast has 2 seating venues with a wide variety of hot and cold and extended breakfast hours with 'to go' option. The bed was outstanding, no street noise, wonderful location just off the highway and close to many area attractions. We so love the heated pool during the cold weather - who can say you are swimming out-of-doors in January?

    « Excellent! »

This place is well worth the money! Room was very clean and nice. Their hot tub with the therapeutic waterfall is amazing. Breakfast was crowded but tasty with lots of options. Only a few min from downtown so wasn't to pricey to have uber drive us for a fun night out. Defiantly plan on going back here next time. ????

« Nice location and rooms »

I've stayed at the Merry Manor several times over the past six years. Each time, check in and check out have been quick. Our meeting rooms have served the needs of the group and service has been fine. I've been too busy doing work to enjoy any of the amenities. I'll have our athletic teams stay here without reservation.

Good Location, close to everything. Breakfast is great and the room is clean. The hotel is renovating the front lobby but they did not put a sign where the entrance is. Beside that staff are courteous and helpful.

« Best value in Portland Maine »

As always it was like coming home upon arrival to this hotel. Longevity in staff is awesome and the upgrades are amazing. New covered entry that is handicap friendly, with auto door upon swiping of room key. Free breakfast, can't wait to go back in a couple weeks!!!

    « Safe choice »

Well-located BW branch in South Portland. Had some construction work done at entrance of the hotel, but that had no influence on total product. Nice staff at front desk, helpful and ready to assist. Room was fine. Nice bed, comfortable. Bathroom however could do with a make-over. Lighting in shower was poor and having carpet on the bathroom floor was in fashion in the 1960s. Staff assistance during breakfast was very helpful. Plenty of choice at the buffet and even (!) fresh fruit available. Brilliant move to keep the calories down and get some fibres in.

« Hotel just Ok but breakfast a poor experience! »

A fairy basic hotel quite a way from Portland centre but adequate for a one night stop over. Clean and well equipped room. Breakfast was ok but a littel disorganised and number of tables not cleared. Not sure about the need for plastic crockery. The reception staff very pleasant and helpful.

« Continental Breakfast needs reviewing »

My friend and I stayed here for 3 nights from 8-10 th October 2015.The hotel whilst being overall clean and providing much for guests, e.g. microwave, fridge ,coffee pot and 2 x queens sized beds in room, plus heated pool, hot tub and laundry facilities the continental breakfast leaved a lot to be desired! Tough turkey rashers, omelets that tasted like rubber, were not what was expected, neither were the waxed red apples. it was a shame the hotel hasn't got this right as the staff were helpful. Someone in charge of catering needs to take a field trip to Europe to see how to set a continental breakfast

« Great place to stay in Portland! »

We were very surprised at how nice this little hotel was for what we were paying. We had stayed here many years ago(about 20) and decided to give it a try . It was excellent. We had a very nice and clean room, the internet worked great and we had a lovely dinner in the restaurant (with entertainment!) Saturday night. The next morning we enjoyed our free breakfast and it was great, bacon, eggs, toast,etc.. Also the price was right. We didn't use the hot tub or pool but we will bring our bathing suits next time! Very close to the Maine Mall which is why we were in Portland for the weekend. Overall a wonderful experience although unexpected!

    « Happy »

Stayed for 1 night. Good sized room - clean. Comfortable beds. Very friendly staff on check-in. Had evening meal in adjacent restaurant which was OK. Self service breakfast simple - not a great deal but sufficient to get you going. Nothing special but would be happy enough to stay again

    « Another fantastic stay! »

This is a fantastic hotel. Upgraded temperpedic beds in some rooms. Front Desk clerks go above and beyond to please guests and ensure you have the best possible stay. Great WIFI, extended TV channels, great showers, very quiet even though it's right off the highway. Convenient to downtown and tourist areas.

    « Great motel »

We stayed one night. Very friendly and efficient reception. Our room was great- very modern, well equipped- including a pod coffee maker, fridge and microwave, hairdryer, iron, flat screen TV etc. The bed was very comfortable, there was even a large easy chair. The room design was good- there was a full bathroom and a separate wash basin in an area separated from the main room by a half wall which also contained the coffee machine, microwave and fridge. Everything worked well and was extremely clean. The motel is well placed for the waterfront- just 2 exits away on the highway and much cheaper than staying in town. Everything we have come to expect from Best Western- highly recommended.

    « One night stopover »

Stayed one night on our road trip between Boston and Bar Harbour. Slightly dated but large clean rooms with comfortable beds. Fine for a quick stop over. The coffee and cookies in the lobby are a bonus...as is the included breakfast.

« One Night Birthday Getaway! »

My BF booked this for one Saturday night to celebrate my birthday. Check in was a breeze, very friendly and accommodating. The room was lovely, plenty of outlets for devices, roomy, nice decor, clean, and a large screen tv. The bed was very comfortable. The amenities that not all hotels give you were here.....make up towelettes, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc. Breakfast in the morning was included and was more than adequate. We would stay here again when visiting the Portland area for a getaway.

    « Will Be Returning »

Stayed here for my birthday weekend. Room was clean, spacious, and a great value! It was quiet and the bed was very comfortable. The complimentary breakfast that was included was great. I am looking forward to returning to this hotel next month for another weekend stay!

    « Awesome Hotel »

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel and it does not disappoint. Front desk staff is very friendly the clerk even remembered me from my last visit and it was almost a year ago. The rooms are very clean no old hotel room smell and the bathroom is HUGE. The bed was super comfortable and the flat screen TV is awesome. The Internet speed at this hotel is better than any five star resort anywhere guaranteed! This is an older hotel but sleeps like a new one and I highly recommend it if you are coming up to Portland.

« Great Value for Price »

We found this hotel to be clean, had a comfortable bed, quiet and the massage chair was wonderful! The breakfast had a nice selection of waffles, pancakes, fruit, juices, cereal, two kinds of bacon and good coffee. Our room was quiet, no slamming doors, or screaming/running children. The bed was comfortable.

    « Best pool anywhere »

We stay here with family because of the year-round indoor-outdoor pool, which is always plenty warm, a huge hottub with waterfall and lights. It is always clean and friendly and nice as well, with a good breakfast included.

    « Love it »

This is our very favorite place to escape to, whether to just hang out or have some type of agenda. At the Merry Manor Inn, the pool and spa rate extremely high. Ever swim in a snowstorm ? The Lafayette Group overall is great, and when we stay in the Bangor or Wateville or Portland area we book with them as they take pride in the comfort, appearance and service of their hotels. I truely believe that each time we stay, something has been upgraded.

    « Good for a 1 night stop-over »

Spent one night here on the way between Boston and Bar Harbor. Reasonably comfortable stay. Free wifi in the rooms, fairly comfortable beds and a decent selection of hot and cold food provided for breakfast. Hotel could really use an update though, decor is tired/dated and the old vents and corners of the room could do with a really thorough clean.

« Good for stay, not for sleep. »

Merry Manor Inn? is conveniently located in South Portland with an easy access to I-95. We picked it as one of the limited options where we could stay with the dog - that's why I gave them an extra *. The main problem with our stay at room #266 (if I am not mistaken) was the horrible mattress that was due for replacement long-long time ago; after spending two nights we felt like we both needed a visit to a chiropractor. I hope the Guest Relations Manager will sleep few nights in that room before responding to my post. The complimentary breakfast had few typical options - OK fried eggs and bacon, ?make your own waffle', a pancake-making machine, but if you are looking for healthy choices, they were very limited, mostly not very appetizing lower quality carb loaded products.

    « Overall great stay »

Nice, quiet and comfortable place with a huge breakfast spread and the heated outside pool was a bonus to enjoy, even in October! It was just a short drive to the Maine Mall Road. The fall decor displays added a soft touch to our stay. Thanks!

« Great pool and hot tub »

Charming older hotel near Portland but at a fraction of the price. Stayed several times on cycling trips. The indoor/outdoor pool is fantastic. The hot tub is special as well. Dinner at the hotel including live music and it was also very well done. Will stay there anytime we are in the area.

    « I love this place »

I have stayed at this Best Western many times on my way to Bar Harbor in the past and never had a bad experience. This time I stayed the night before my trip over on the ferry to Nova Scotia. Check in was fast and very profesional by Alesha. My room #261 was clean and very comfortable. You can not go wrong by choosing this Best Western M.M.Inn.

« Good value - and really nice staff »

Room was large, clean and bed was sufficiently hard to allow a good night's sleep. The staff was very efficient and friendly. Breakfast was the serve yourself style but was a cut above average. Location is very close to the Cape Elizabeth lighthouses. Would definitely stay here again.

    « Good for the $$ »

Overall it felt clean & the staff was friendly. It is about a 10 minute drive to downtown Portland so it was worth saving some money by staying in South Portland. Our primary complaint is that it smelled a little musty and like old cigarettes. Could use some updates to decor.

    2
    « Stay Away »

Rooms are old and feel dirty. There was a musty smell even after running the air condition (which sounded like a plane taking off every time it turned on). Our TV remote didn't work properly, and the buttons were worn off in more than one place. Pool area was VERY nice, but over run with children who were literally pouring soda into the hot tub while their parents drank outside. Several other couples left the area as did we as the children ran, screamed, put chairs in the hot tub/kiddy pool and splashed everyone trying to get in/out of the main pool or hot tub. Breakfast isn't worth the walk down. Waffle machines didn't work, pancakes were gross, fruit was mushy and sitting in water, and the eggs were cold. We ended up stopping before starting our day at a fast food place. The staff seemed to be trying their best, but were over run with guests (sold out night).
