« Clean, neat and helpful. »

When I got to the hotel the manager was there to assist me with registration. As part of this I asked about different place to eat and sightsee. They gave me a book and there were a lot of activities I never thought of. Overnight, there was a snow fall and they had the area plowed and cleaned up in no time. The spread anti slipping compound on the walkways that looked after your safety. The place was extremely neat and clean and I would love to come back again.

« Lovely hotel in a lovely place »

I was just passing through on my way from Reno to Sacramento and had an extra day. I was really happy with my choice of this hotel. It is the off season but the staff treated me very well, upgraded my room, and made me feel very welcome. I really loved the breakfast in the restaurant which came included.

« Perfect Hotel in a stunning area »

I just loved this hotel, on a scale of 1-10 I'd give it a 10+, not a bad word to say about it! Breakfast is in the restaurant next door, best of the Best Western American breakfasts I have had, lovely friendly, helpful humorous wait staff. Plenty of good stores in the local, and some casinos just across the state line ( which I didn't use ) The SLT area is heavenly!

    « Great overnight stay »

The room was comfortable with coffee maker. The location is perfect for walks to the lake and the village shops. Breakfast was superb being served not the usual buffet. The staff were friendly and helpful.

    « Nice stay »

Comfortable clean hotel . A bit confusing to locate even with a sat nav. Very nicely decorated in and out for Halloween . Pleasant staff . Only down side was the restaurant across the parking lot was very expensive for dinner. However we had a free breakfast which was excellent . Would definitely stay again and recommend .

    « Tahoe visit »

It was clean and friendly atmosphere. Needs updating but we were comfortable. I do not reccomend the attached restaurant for dinner. It is very pricey and not worth the price. The food was average. It is ok for the included breakfast.

« Great Price and a free hot breakfast to order »

Anytime we go to the South Lake Tahoe area, we stay at this hotel. Comfortable beds, and a free hot breakfast in the restaurant. You can't beat this deal! This is tucked away from the main highway, and in the summertime, you can walk to the lake.

    5
    « Best in Tahoe »

Looking for a great place to stay in South Lake Tahoe without breaking the bank, then stay here. You also get a cooked to order breakfast included at the restaurant next door. If you are considering one of the others save your money.

    5
    « Pleasant & friendly Staff! »

Our room was nice. King size bed, 2 chairs (unusual for most rooms elsewhere), mini fridge. The pool was nice. The staff helped with great recommendations for places to eat and places to see. Short walk to beach area. We look forward to staying here anytime we can get back to South Lake Tahoe!

« Great value; great location »

We were pleasantly surprised because there was a great demand for rooms during the time we went to Tahoe. The room was lovely with nice toiletries, a separate large vanity outside the bathroom, and plenty of space inside. We stayed on the first floor and there was one floor above us but no elevator, in case that is important to you. There are different wings and there seemed to be plenty of parking. A cooked breakfast was included at the on-site hotel and we never had to wait very long before being seated, perhaps because we were there in September, a lovely time of year to visit. The hotel is situated off the main highway in a quiet area within walking distance of the lake and the casinos. All in all we had a pleasant experience and would certainly return to this site.

    « Lake Tahoe getway »

We stayed at the Best Western Station house this past week on a impromptu motorcycle ride up to South lake Tahoe. We enjoy staying at this property as it location is second to non. The property is located close to a really nice beach on the lake and also just across the street from Heavenly Valley ski resort and the state line casinos. Wonderful place with a full serve breakfast to boot.

« Nice place to spend a rainy weekend »

Spent two nights here during the big October storm. So we didn't get to take advantage of its location near the beach. Or walk to the casinos as planned. Normally, it'd be a great location. The building is an older two-story with outside entrances. With the exception of the casino hotels, most of the Tahoe motels are older and small. Only a couple chain motels. The room at the BW was fine, wi-fi was fine. No gym. We got a decent off-season rate. The hotel has a restaurant, an apparently well-rated steak restaurant. It's also where you get your complimentary, sit-down breakfast. We lucked out one morning with blueberry pancakes as the special! I would stay here again.

    4
    « Great Stay »

Lots of choices and cheaper hotels but this Best Western in SLT was exceptional. Actually a great value with the convenience to down town, casino, the lake and dining. The helpful and friendly staff made it a pleasure and I look forward to staying again in the near future.

    5
    « Connolly »

best place to stay near the casinos and you can walk to the beach in like 5 min breakfast was outstanding must try there biscuits and gravy and they also have a healthy breakfast a long with a great staff

« Great location and Very friendly staff. »

Great little hotel in great location, just a short walk to the lake or up to lots of shops and lovely restaurants. The staff were very helpful and friendly indeed. The room was very clean and cosy, bed was very comfortable. The complementary breakfasts were really good, pancakes were delicious!

    « Disappointed »

We stayed the night from oct 14-15. Woke up they next morning with a big scratch on my brand new car due to a bear dragging a unsecured trash can in between me and my friends car. With the garbage can filled with food and trash bringing the bears presence and it being unsecured leading to this. My friend and I left our information at the desk and was told we were going to receive a call from the manager about the incident and it has been 4 days and still nothing. It was all going well till we left, made my trip back annoyed and disappointing. All I want is to get this scratch paid for.

    5
« Great location, good hotel »

Four of us stayed in two rooms at this location and were very pleased with the location, price and quality. It was quiet, near the casino's, had a co-located full restaurant with complimentary breakfast. The staff was very competent and friendly. We will stay here again if we ever pass through the area.

    4
    « Excellent Value »

We chose this Best Western over "value" motels in the Tahoe area based on good reviews and the fact that a full menu breakfast was included. We received our moneys worth. The room was small but clean and adequate. The breakfast was a very good experience with actual linens and a full service staff not the usual service your self buffet with the usual bland food. Overall good value and would both recommend to friends and would also stay again when in the area.

    4
« EXCELLENT LOCATION ON SOUTH SHORE TAHOE »

We were traveling across and through out the Tahoe area and found this Best Western. The property seems small, but in reality it is very big. The pool and Hot Tub are open 24/7 and the adjoining Restaurant made for a great place to have Dinner. We don't do the "Gambling Thing" so being a block from the lake was GREAT.

    4
« Friendly, helpful staff, great location. nice room »

A friend and I were very pleased with our 5 night stay, finding the staff especially friendly and helpful and the location excellent, near many restaurants, shopping, entertainment and the lake, yet in a quiet neighborhood. Our double room was nicely decorated, comfortable and reasonably spacious for two. The complimentary breakfast was served to order in the adjacent upscale restaurant and a number of tasty choices were offered. I would certainly recommend the Station House Inn to anyone wishing to stay in the South Lake area.

  • 4
    « Quiet »

The location is off the main drag, but not too far to walk to dinner and shopping. It is quiet. The wifi was strong, the beds are very comfortable and the room has a fridge, microwave, etc. The rooms are pretty tiny. The breakfast in the morning is cooked to order and served to the table. Very good food in a nice setting.

    5
« South Lake Tahoe Experience »

Great hotel but room rather small. Loved the free breakfast each morning at their restaurant. Only a 15 minute walk to the casinos. Would recommend this BW Hotel. The bed was very comfortable. Slight outside noise.

    5
« Nice location to the Lake »

We stayed here for two nights and thought it was a good location to see Lake Tahoe. The shuttle stops at Harvey's ( a few blocks down the road) to take you to Zephyr Cove for the cruise around the lake. Also, there are many restaurants to choose from close by. A full breakfast is included.

    5
« All in one place »

We really enjoyed meeting friends at this hotel. Our room was clean and spacious. It was very quiet. There is a bar and a restaurant at this hotel. We loved it. We recommend requesting a downstairs room. Rooms open to the outside and there is no elevator.

    4
« Close to the Lake »

More motel style than hotel but a pleasant stay. Friendly staff on reception and a quick check-in. Room was on the small side with a wardrobe that encroached into the room but the bed was comfortable. Good shower and bathroom. A short walk to the beach on Lake Tahoe and main street in the opposite direction.

    4
    « Great overall stay »

Was in town for business for 4 nights and enjoyed my stay. The rooms were clean and spacious. Staff was courteous and breakfast was outstanding. My only complaint is the poor Wi-FI. If you have work to do, your best bet is to find WI-Fi elsewhere.

    5
    « Station House »

Great place to stay in lake tahoe. 2 block walk to lake. very nice room. people were great. made to order breakfast was a nice treat. Only 1 other BW does this I've stayed at. Definitely using this hotel again

    4
« Nice Hotel in a Beautiful place »

It was a very nice and comfortable hotel. The restaurant attached was great for a very nice dinner. The staff at the hotel reception desk was very pleasant and helpful with all of our needs and directions to the places we wanted to visit.

    5
« Great hotel near village »

Went with family , nice clean hotel with great complementary breakfast , walkable distance to village resort for skiing and all other market .. had good time .. staff are professional and courteous .. ....

    5
« Wonderful place and location »

This is a wonderful place to stay in Tahoe. Just blocks from the beach and free breakfast. Sits a few blocks away from the traffic. We stayed in the Gingerbread House and were thrilled with our place. It had a wonderful 2nd floor deck to sit out on. It even had a washer and dryer. It has late checkout of noon which was great.

  • 5
    « Great location & great breakfast »

This is a short walk from the lake and the casinos. The full breakfast is included and always excellent. The staff are all friendly and helpful. Get the King room, it has plenty of space. The Queen room is adequate, but a little crowded for 2 people. We like to go to Tahoe in the fall when the prices are lower.

    1
    « Learn a few people skills! »

The snotty man answering the phone knows how to run potential diners away in a hurry. When I called to ask about the lunch menu, he said in such a snotty tone, we don't have a lunch menu and we don't serve Cobb salad! He could have tried to sound more friendly. Never going there for that reason.

    4
« We were saved by this hotel! »

After rejecting another property due to being WAY over-priced and adding on a ridiculous charge for our pet, we were desperate to find a hotel. Right down the street we saw the Best Western. I went in to ask about accommodations and was assisted by a lovely lady, called Mindy. She understood our circumstances and was able to accommodate us without a problem. The room was large, clean and just right in price. Although the room has some wear and tear, I understood it as the winter snow puts a burden on the hotel's accommodations. Another plus is that breakfast is included, which is in a REAL restaurant! It had LINEN tablecloths/napkins, was a lovely room and breakfast was good! What a find! We were close to the Nevada border and could walk to the Casinos. Wouldn't hesitate staying there again!

    4
« Good location but older facility »

Room was clean but they need new furnishings and new carpeting. Rooms have no view other than the parking area and outdoor pool. Best part of stay was the complimentary sit down made to order Breakfast. This location seemed slightly over priced compared to some other BW Plus locations we stayed at during our 23 day road trip.

    4
    « Great place »

We decided to stay two nights and really enjoyed the spacious room, with two sinks and sitting area. The furnishings were modern and the bed very comfortable. The only comment is the breakfast, even getting there at 7am when they opened we found the food lukewarm to cold.

    5
    « So nice! »

Beautiful large clean room. Staff helpful and friendly. Free breakfast. Perfect location near casinos and lake beaches. Quiet and fairly priced. Great pool and spa. Even the in room coffee was excellent.

    5
    « Very relaxing »

We will going back next 4th of July stay. Friendly helpful staff good pool and jacuzzi. Great choices for breakfast. And dinner no pets except certified service animals. Close to beach and casinos. Going back

    4
« Nice and convenient hotel at a great location »

I'd recommend the Station House Inn to anyone staying in Lake Tahoe. The location is great, everything (casinos, gondola, lake, restaurants etc.) can be reached on food. There was ample parking, the public areas were neat and nice, and the room was of good size, and very clean. Décor could be a bit more modern, but it was nice nevertheless. Staff was friendly, the breakfast (included) fantastic (full table service), and the whole experience very pleasurable. I'll stay here again when in the area.

    3
« Motel location ok, Room location was not. »

The motel was located close to the Heavenly ski resort and eating places which was a plus. Noise level coming from outside was very loud. Can hear people talking and vehicles driving by. I felt a little unsafe too. I have stayed at other Best Western and the rooms are located within a perimeter of the motel area. Our room was facing outside that perimeter, looking out into a street. So almost anybody walking in that street can look into our car or room. Room was very small. There was cabinet fitted parallel to the sink, so you can access only half of the sink area. We only stayed overnight and will not be staying a lot in our room, so I am giving it a 3 for now. Will revise with how the breakfast will be like tomorrow.

    3
    « Tiny room »

We were lucky to book a multi-night stay at the end of summer for a good price. The location was convenient but our queen room was very small with wall to wall furniture. Breakfast was served in a restaurant, with several options. Ok if you aren't in a hurry or want something not on the menu. We wanted to hike around Emerald Bay but highway 89 was closed. Lots of construction on all of the roads. Kind of quiet at the casinos--enjoyed the only two shows playing during the week.

    « Reasonable and Peaceful »

Such a beautiful place surrounded by beauty, Bed was amazingly comfortable. Great location, can walk to casinos. Free breakfast was terrific! Friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely stay here again.

    4
« My go-to hotel in South Lake Tahoe »

This hotel is comfortable, convenient and has a wonderful steakhouse restaurant! It's appearance is rustic, which fits the area. The free breakfast is a sit-down real breakfast! The dinner menu is steak/seafood and I have not been disappointed. Every meal has been prepared exactly as ordered in 2 stays here. The restaurant staff is part of the experience - professional and friendly, all long time employees. It is home-away-from home in South Lake Tahoe.

    4
    « Lake Tahoe Trip »

Great hotel, friendly staff and amazing food at the restaurant. Close to the beach and to the casino's and shopping centers. Lots of restaurants within walking distance if you wan to venture out. But the hotel has a great restaurant/Bar on site. Rooms are comfortable and clean.

    5
« They made me feel like old blue eyes! »

We were treated like royalty at the Station House. VERY comfortable and homey! Older property that looks GREAT! with every modern update and super clean! We really felt that old time Lake Tahoe hospitality. First time I've stayed in California in 40 years and cant wait to get back! Thanks for a great time!

    3
    « Convenient stop »

Visitors will probably find this a convenient spot for South Lake/Stateline. Very near the beach and casinos, but it is not alone! Plenty of other motels in the neighborhood. This Best Western, though, worked out fine for us. It's better than average, I'd call it good, but TA doesn't provide a good rating ( and it is definitely not very good). As others have noted, there's a, well, vintage essence to this property, motel DNA stuck in the 70s. That said, our room was clean and comfortable and we were entirely satisfied for what it was, and at a reasonable rate. Yes, the free breakfast comes at the fine dining restaurant adjacent, and certainly a significant upgrade over the usual mass feeding breakfasts in hotel lobbies. We had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated, though. Not all guests were happy about that kind if wait. We had time to kill so it was no big deal. The food itself, ordered off a menu, was decent not spectacular. The same for the service, which was a mite harried given the waiting guests. While having a fresh made plate of eggs is a nice perk, the hotel might consider setting a fast option for those too impatient to wait....a coffee and muffin station for example.

    3
    « A decent spot... »

So the best thing I can say about this hotel is its proximity to the private beach and to Heavenly Village. Otherwise, here are the pros and cons. Pros; free breakfast(be aware though you have to wait for the host to seat you and then order off a menu it's not just a help yourself like I thought), free parking, beach passes, good location, quiet, restaurant on site(although very pricey), hot tub and pool(she told me was heated it was NOT). Cons; expensive restaurant, rooms are OK but need repairs and updates, beds are not comfortable, staff is a "courteous" friendly but nothing that wowed me. Would I stay here again? Only if my other choices weren't available but for a first time visit I think this hotel served its purpose.

    4
    « Great Location & Service »

Ideally located off of stateline walking distance to the Lake, the casinos and Heavenly Valley Gondola & restaurants. The complimentary breakfast is truly that.... a full sit down breakfast. Best deal I have experienced in a long time. The rooms are functional and could use some updating but all in all a great value in a great location

    5
« Best spot, perfect free breakfast »

I was unsure how much time I would need in Yosemite so did not book a hotel in South Lake Tahoe. I arrived at half 8 at night as a walk in and asked for the best price for 2 night. The price was as good as the cheapest we had found on line. The hotel has lodges and rooms, we had a queen room was ok for us has a TV and fridge and just big enough to open the suit case, the bathroom had a night light and heat lamps. The hotel is in a fantastic location for the price the beach is mins away and you get free access ($5 each other wise) town, Applebee's is just down the way and we used action water sports on the beach (hotel gives you a discount) The breakfast is the best hotel breakfast I've ever had and it's free with the room. Use this hotel.

    4
« Great location in downtown South Lake Tahoe »

This Best Western is a little on the dated side. As noted by other reviewers, the decor is circa 1970 and the rooms are very dark inside. As one would expect from an older heavily used motel, there is a lot of wear and tear. My wife and I take this as par for the course though, so some paint chips or a cracked tile aren't really something we are going to squibble over. There was no refrigerator or microwave in the room. So, beware if you are looking to stock your own food or treats. What was a pleasant surprise was the little attached restaurant. They don't have your normal Best Western breakfast buffet, instead you are served breakfast at a little sit down restaurant where you pick one selection off of a small menu. They offered your normal types of breakfast items... pancakes, biscuits and gravy, country breakfast and lighter options like fruit and cottage cheese. We never had to wait to be seated when we were there and the food came out quickly. The wait staff was also nice. The only downside is that like a regular restaurant, (even though your meal is free) you are expected to tip. It wasn't the tipping that was a bummer as much as having paper money to do so since you aren't paying with plastic. The motel is located right down in the middle of Sooth Lake Tahoe, so for the cheap price of a Best Western, you get great access to all that the town offers within a quick walk or drive.

    5
    « Great Location »

This was a trip with my husband and another couple. Once we arrived we left our car parked and were within walking distance of the lake with beach access, shopping, dining, and casinos. A great central location. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Large mini fridge and coffee maker in room. Breakfast was included, and is not the typical continental. They actually seat you in the restaurant and serve you a full breakfast to your order. Staff very pleasant and accommodating. Very nice pool area. Quiet location off the main roads. This was our 3rd stay at this Inn, and it won't be our last. (Unless we can't get a room because my review is too good!)

    « 15th Wedding Anniversary get away »

My husband and I stayed here on September 3-5. Very nice room, the bed was comfortable and very quiet surroundings. The hotel is only 2 blocks from the Lakeside beach( get a pass from the front desk as there is a fee) and about 3 blocks from the casinos and shopping. They have a refrigerator in the room but no microwaves ( only one in the lobby you can use). Will differently stay here again.

    5
« Great place to stay in South Shore »

Friendly & helpful staff. Rooms clean & well maintained. Above average service at an average price. Pool, & hot tub with pool side lunch & beverages. Restaurant serves great dinners in a first class setting. Waiter has always been pleasant & professional. Included with the room, hotel guests get made to order breakfast in the restaurant with the same great service as provided with dinner. Add to this, you are within walking distance of the casinos, great shopping, & the beach.

« Comfortable Stay at a Decent Price »

Stayed 4 nights in late June. Room was in good condition and bed was comfortable, good sized room on the second floor. Easy 2-block walk to the lake and 4 blocks to the ski gondola and shop at Heavenly Resort area. Also about 4 blocks to the Nevada casinos. Breakfast and beach access passes were included, with breakfast being made to order off of a limited but sufficient menu. Lots of free parking on site right next to the rooms.

    4
« Convenient location - next to everything »

Nice accommodations, pretty property, needs microwave. location is a fun walk to the beach and the casinos - close to everything. Would stay again. Good restaurant attached - which seemed to be a locals place

    5
« Truly an enjoyable experience »

Clean rooms, beautiful exterior grounds, great service at front desk, restaurant, and bar. Enjoyed the complimentary cooked to order breakfast. Close to private beach. Will definitely be back for couple stay and future family stay.

    « Room with a view »

The misses & I have been staying here for years. We come to South Lake about two times a year and we won't stay anywhere else. The rooms are clean, modern & inexpensive. The hotel staff is always friendly & helpful. The complimentary breakfast is small but satisfying.

    3
    « Okay »

The room at this hotel was extremely small and crowded with furniture. Seems to be an older hotel, but clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. Wifi didn't work real well but was manageable. The location to Heavenly Village was great, within walking distance. Free full breakfast available.

    5
« Affordable hotel, great location, friendly staff »

I chose this hotel because I had a BW credit and wanted to use it before expiration. This hotel is in a GREAT location next to the lake, food, and casinos. It's on a quiet street just a couple blocks from all the action. The room I stayed in was simple, small, clean, quiet, and comfortable. No issues with the free parking. The staff in the lobby were very friendly. The cost of the stay includes a free continental breakfast off of a menu; breakfast staff were extremely nice and accommodating! I would stay here again.

    5
    « Nice and peaceful »

BW Tahoe was located close enough to the main shopping and gathering area of South Tahoe but still provided a quite and peaceful stay with no extra resort fees as would other hotel/casinos in the area. Would highly reccomend

« Great and affordable place to stay while working in the So Lake Tahoe area »

Easy check-in close to food, stores the lake/hiking trails and services in the South Lake Tahoe Basin and Stateline CA/NV. Quiet and tranquil room were you can walk to dinner and come back and prepare or review for the business of the next day.

    4
« Good budget type hotel with friendly staff »

Stayed here one night on way to Yosemite. First up on arrival team were great and helpful. Room was very clean with a nice bed, well ventilated, etc. Standard Best Western where team go a bit further. Breakfast is included and is a cooked American fayre. I had the triple blueberry pancakes. Now as somebody who does like to eat, this was a challenge to finish and a great start to the day. After we had a long walk up the beach, which is good, clean and very clear water before we headed off to Mamouth Lake. Would recommend if in area.

    5
    « Great rest convenient »

Walking distance (1500') to casinos, very quiet great location, good beds, good food on site or nearby. This was a business trip so I didn't have a lot of time to look around but the beach wasn't too far to walk. The setting was very comforting in the big pines.

    3
    « Nice but dated »

Room was clean although TV was not great with channels no HBO etc, remote did not work. Comfy bed but décor could use updating. Exterior has beautiful flowers/plants but as well showing some age. Nice pool, wasn't heated at this visit so a bit chilly, nice hot tub, bar severed great drinks but pricey! Great location to downtown shopping & casino's-totally walkable & they gave us a pass to the beach that costs about $25 bucks to use during the day but at night we easily walked the shoreline- overall a good experience & would stay again. Mindy at the front desk was super friendly & signed us out towels to use at the pool or beach several times!

    « Great stay »

The hotel was very good for what we needed. We just stayed one night and needed a place that was in a good location and family friendly. The room was clean and comfortable (although the bed was not the best). The pool was not heated, which really wasn't great even in August. But the kids still had fun there. The staff was helpful. Within walking distance to the lake, which was a plus. Make sure you tell the guy at the lake beach entrance that you're staying there and you won't have to pay to come in. Great plus!

« Great Lake Tahoe Hotel »

This was our first trip to Lake Tahoe and we feel we found a wonderful hotel we would definitely choose again should we come back to the area. We were greeted very warmly by the front desk staff, the poolside cafe had great food, breakfast each morning was wonderful. What better way to start a morning of exploring Lake Tahoe than with a made to order breakfast each morning? Within walking distance to the beach and shopping. Felt very safe in this area. The room may have needed some updates but it was clean and that's what matters most to me.

Beautiful hotel in the middle of all the action!! Walking distance to the beach and close amenities for everyday essentials. Front desk was very knowledgeable and sweet. Breakfast is cooked to order but can't comment yet because it's still are first night here. Another note for families with little ones is they offer pack n play for sleeping and housekeeping will come and set it up for you. Beautiful hotel and awesome pool!! Update on breakfast it was amazing

What a gem. Location, location, location! Walk to beach (free pass), Heavenly Ski resort (Gondola/zip line), shopping, hiking, and gambling. Restaurant provided free HOT breakfast. Outdoor pool looked beautiful, but I never used it. Knowledge staff. Room was a bit small, but not an issue. Comfortable bed. No microwave. Quiet a/c. You do have to carry luggage upstairs if you are on upper level. Clean grounds. Felt safe walking back from beach/grill at night. Less congested than other areas. Don't overlook this place. I'd stay again.

    « Minor problems didn't overshadow inn's excellence »

We were welcomed in a friendly manner when we were arrived. We stayed here before and really enjoyed it, so we came back. We got to our room, which was very nice and unpacked. Everything was in working order. The inn is located about two city blocks from downtown, the casinos and the beach, all within walking distance. Breakfast is complimentary at the restaurant next door where you order off a menu and have table service. It is usually crowded because, let's face it, restaurant service for free? Who wouldn't. They wait staff are excellent and the food is delicious. Our only problems were because we had to book two separate times because BW won't allow you to use your points for part of your stay and regular payment for another part. You have to book separately. This caused some confusing from the front staff and our key cards were cancelled on the second and third day of our stay, so we had to get those redone each day. On our last day, our room hadn't been made up, probably for the same reason our key card was cancelled and we had to wait by the pool while that was taken care of. The pool is very nice and very popular and there is a hot tub available, too. The restaurant next door serves dinner, which is a bit pricey. The lounge isn't particularly large, but they have outdoor seating by the pool and also service the pool users. The only complaint for the bar is the lack of good beer. Except for a couple, most beer was of the Bud-Coors variety. Checkout was a breeze and took all of three minutes. We will be coming back, probably in April or May, which is their off season, as the town was really crowded.

« Clean and quiet location with uncomfortable beds »

The location of this Best Western is ideal. Off the main road and within walking distance to a nice beach. Very nice quiet location. It is clean, which is one of my main concerns when booking a hotel. The bed, however, was so uncomfortable that I could not sleep for 2 nights, and couldn't wait to get home to sleep! Upon checking in, another guest was complaining about her King mattress, and the front desk clerk advised her to switch to the queen which wouldn't be as soft. I was on the King mattress and that thing was as hard as a brick. And, probably the most uncomfortable pillows I have ever encountered in a Best Western. When I checked out, front desk clerk seemed well aware of the problem with the mattresses, because he said the guests all moan about the hardness or softness of the mattresses. WELL, here's a solution, CHANGE THEM!

« For us it was on the poor side of average; you may love it »

My wife and I were in the South Lake Tahoe area for one night, and booked a room at the Best Western in large part due to the many positive reviews on TripAdvisor. Although we enjoyed the visit to Lake Tahoe, we will be looking for something a bit different in terms of accommodations when we visit the next time. The Best Western may provide some visitors exactly what they are looking for, and clearly many people like this hotel. If it fits your needs, that's wonderful, but it was not a particularly great fit for our needs. There are a number of potentially positive features, again depending on what you are looking for. You are about a 5-10 minute walk from a marina/beach area. If you want to spend your day there, then the hotel scores high on convenience. However, there is a beach parking lot, so you can drive to there from other hotels, or to any number of other beaches as well. If you want to visit the casinos, they are within walking distance. I don't gamble, but if you do, or are going to a casino event and don't want to stay at a casino hotel, well, then perhaps the Best Western would serve your purposes. The hotel has a swimming pool, and if you (or your kids) find a swimming pool planted in a parking lot an attractive venue, then I suppose this is another positive. Personally, I don't need to come all the way to Lake Tahoe for a pool overlooking a parking lot. Finally, if having food on the grounds is important to you, then they have you covered. The reception desk staff was polite, friendly, and efficient. The bathroom was functional. So, what didn't I like? The rooms at the Best Western have an all-too-familiar layout that I find unappealing. The doors to the rooms are under a narrow covered walkway that faces the parking lot. You have one window that gives you a view of the parking lot, and all the people staying on your floor/level as they walk past your room to their rooms. If you want any level of privacy, you will be sitting in a room with the lights on regardless of the time of day. I personally don't like that dark an environment. We had a room with two double beds, an armoire, two chairs, a ?cocktail?/side table, a dresser, and a nightstand. Pretty basic stuff. I found it amusing that corporate room designers try to ?Martha Stewart? the place by adding in lots of useless pillows on the bed that you have no place to put if you actually want to sleep in the beds. I prefer clean uncluttered functionality. The room had a tv, viewable from the bed, but not from the two chairs, a way to heat water and make coffee, an iron, free internet access, and a refrigerator placed next to a bed so that you could enjoy the sound of the compressor throughout the night. (Although I appreciate a refrigerator, putting it under the bathroom counter might have been better from a noise perspective.) For security reasons, you are unlikely to want to open a window at night, and so the heating/cooling unit is your only option for dealing with stagnant air and moderating the room's temperature. Do bring earplugs (I always do) because in addition to the refrigerator, and the heating/cooling unit, you will hear the parking lot conversations, the conversations in the walkways and on the steps to the second floor, the conversations and tv in the room next to you, and if you are on the ground floor, most likely the people above you if the room is occupied. The walls transmit sound very well, which unfortunately is not a positive. I have back issues, and some hotel mattresses work well for me while others do not. I found the mattress rather uncomfortable, and if you happen to be a stomach sleeper, then it is advised that you bring a pillow from home along. I found all the pillows to be uncomfortable and/or too thick to sleep comfortably on. Thankfully I remembered to pack my pillow, or I would have gotten even less sleep than I did. The room, which cost roughly $200/night, did include a complementary cooked-to-order breakfast. We did not pursue this option, and I wish they would decouple the breakfast from the room. Those who want breakfast can buy it. Our experience has been that the number of gluten-free options is generally limited, which creates issues for my wife, and I tend to not enjoy overcooked or poorly cooked eggs in any form. Over the years, I have had enough rubbery ?green? boiled eggs that were actually boiled, incinerated fried eggs with chewy whites and an edge crust, dried-out scrambled eggs, omelets that were basically folded over dried-out scrambled eggs and not proper omelets, poached eggs that were poached in advance and not fully reheated, pancakes and waffles made from a commercial mix, and French toast that starts with some version of Wonder bread, and is finished with ?maple? syrup that has no maple syrup in it. For domestic overnight stays, we just pack our own breakfast and forego the pleasure of such culinary delights, even if they are "included". I will add that if there was a microwave in the room, neither of us found it. So if you have hopes of watching a movie with microwave popcorn, or heating a cup of soup after skiing, or oatmeal in the morning, or leftovers from dinner or lunch out, you are out of luck. Although the staff was friendly and efficient, and deserves four stars, we did not find the room particularly appealing and it certainly did not seem like a particularly good value. We will be staying elsewhere the next time we visit. I can see staying at places like this when you are on a roadtrip and in the middle of nowhere. If you are going to go all the way to a place as beautiful as Lake Tahoe, then it is worth finding a place to stay that enhances rather than detracts from your vacation/visit experience. That place is different for different people. The Best Western may be a better fit for you than it was for us, but if similar issues as the ones I discuss bother you, then hopefully this review is useful to you as you make your lodging decision.

« Very nice hotel - would stay again »

Stayed at the Best Western Station House Inn 1 night for a concert int he area. Found this hotel to be a diamond in the rough. Great location, nice room, great breakfast like you would find in a breakfast restaurant. Hotel was very quiet even though it was full and has a very nice pool area, fire pit area etc. The going to South Lake Tahoe we will definitely consider this hotel again.

« Nice budget hotel in the heart of South Lake Tahoe »

Hotel staff was great. The first night the hotel room we stayed in was dark, dank, and the toilet was broken (Room 224) and kept running. Told staff about problem, but it was not fixed. The second night we stayed in room 108. This room is very nice. It was light, airy and overlooked the pool. The breakfast is great. Many choices, and it's FREE!!! Overall we had a very nice stay. The hotel is near a nice beach and walking distance to the casinos and shops.

« Great Find in South Lake Tahoe »

This hotel's location is absolutely perfect as it is situated a few blocks from the Heavenly Gondola area in one direction and the beach in the other so we were able to walk everywhere. The free breakfast was a huge bonus ~ I guess we always hit it just right because we never had to wait for a table. The 3 gentlemen who waited on us were wonderful and we always had our breakfast on the table within 5-10 minutes! One really nice feature in the room was a sink in the bathroom AND a huge vanity with a sink outside the bathroom. The hotel is older but has been maintained well. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful ~ we'll definitely go back!

« A great place to stay and have a good time »

The staff at check-in wee very helpful and they suggested that I have dinner at the restaurant there on the property. I never had dinner there at the restaurant and I was very pleased with my waiter Kevin and his suggestions. I felt right at home and the cheese fondu was great with the steak dinner. I was on a business trip and this was a great experience.

« Very Nice Place to Stay »

First thins make a reservation. All summer long South Lake Tahoe is packed. This place has everything offer. Rooms were very quiet, clean, good air conditioner, beds were very comfortable. ice box, coffee maker, nice bathrooms. Like the room, very pleasant. Free breakfast in there restaurant which is lovely. You order right off the menu, and there is everything you could want for breakfast and it is free, they do want you to tip the waiters, but they were so great who would not want to. Would go back. Also you can walk right down to the beach from the hotel out the back door or walk out the from door a black or to to the casinos. Perfect location. Did not need the car once I parked it in front of my room. Had a great stay.

    « Perfection »

Perfect little spot to enjoy the amenities of Lake Tahoe without the Lake Tahoe prices. Comfortable bed, good coffee in the room and as sound proof from outside noise as it gets. Swimming pool area was spotless with adults only after 10PM and no chlorine smell emanating, even in the heat of the day. A very refreshing and relaxing place that feels set back in the pines even though it is just two blocks from the casinos and main street.

    « Comfortable & quiet »

We stayed in a King suite. It has plenty of room for 2, the furnishings are comfortable. The bathroom was roomy with a big jetted tub w/shower. The sink and mirror are separate from it & in the area between the bedroom and living room. The room and linens were very clean. The desk staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is included at the restaurant next door, nothing fancy but decent with choices. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the parking is a little tight for those of us who drive SUVs & trucks. Though there is parking behind the hotel we could have used but access was inconvenient as you can't lock/unlock the sliding door from the outside. The hotel is walkable to the beach - they give you a pass for your stay. It is far enough away from the main street that you don't get any road noise. There are room darkening curtains in case you stay up late & want to sleep in.

« Excellent location, value, breakfast & friendly staff. »

Very friendly Manager and staff. Short walk to Lake Tahoe. Very clean rooms. Price includes an excellent full breakfast served in a restaurant on premises. Power boat, jet ski and kayak rentals available within short walk of hotel. I would definitely return to this Best Western Hotel.

« Nice affordable hotel close to water »

I was looking for a hotel last minute and wanted something centrally located close to restaurants and activities and found this. I had booekd two rooms but when i was checking in, noticed that they have nice chalets which are basically 2 bedroom complete homes across the street. It was a perfect choice. The public beach is 2 min walk from here and restaurants etc on the business street are just 5 min walk. The serve full sit down breakfast in the morning and its complimentary :) Dont know how the rooms are in teh main hotel, but i was happy with the chalet. Only complaint was that it did not have AC and it does get hotter during the day time in summer (but we were mostly out during the day)

    « Always a great-stay! »

This is my go-to hotel when in Lake Tahoe. I really enjoy the atmosphere and location. Breakfast is really good, but can get crowded at times. We love swimming in the pool and that the lake is so close! Everything was clean and we always have enjoyed our stay!

    « Wonderful & Relaxing »

We stayed there for the Celebrity Golf Tournament. The Edgewood Golf Course is within an easy 10 minute walk. The free breakfast was great. A full breakfast (not continental) with linen tablecloths, wonderful service and most of all the food is very good! They serve lunch on the deck by the pool which is barbecued to order. Dinner is 4 star! Grounds are clean and beautifully landscaped. A very nice and clean pool. The hotel is family friendly.

« The Place to Stay »

I was here on a business trip. Arrived on a Monday afternoon and was greeted warmly. Room was nice, kind bed was comfortable. Internet worked well and was quick which I needed. Restaurant has great food, and the breakfast is included with your stay. Ordered off a menu, not a buffet so everything is to order. Had dinner and they have a very good wine list. Very short walk to the lake but I really didn't have much time for that, but they do have a private beach if you want to use it.

« Very mixed experience -- rooms just OK in beautiful place »

Nice location, good pool, pleasant servers in restaurant. Loved the beach access nearby. But there were quirks. Breakfast was free, but the queue was always 30 minutes. The reception staff were a mixed bag, friendliness depending on time of day. And our double queen room, as with all the other double queen rooms in the place, was airless and dark and small. Just no way to fix this problem. We happened to stay in a standard double queen room in a low-cost chain a few days later, and this chain's identical room was much bigger and had light and air. Best Western should do some serious updating of the dark brown/mustard/coffee decor and open the rooms to better ventilation.

« Confused Staff. Average Hotel. »

Booked for a King bed for 2 nights online. We got accommodated for a double bed on the first day but checked out the following day to move to a king bed since we can't keep our double bed for another day. There is confusion among the staff since they gave my wife a queen bed on the second day and insisted that was the only available room they have. There was no proper communication and endorsement. I called them up and suddenly a king bed was available. Customer service is okay but could be better. The young lady accepting reservations for breakfast is grouchy. Could help to bring some smile and positivity in life. Breakfast is not the usual small hotel buffet. It's restaurant style where you wait for your seat, get seated and offered a menu. The place is a restaurant but offers FREE breakfast to hotel guests. Plan your day since you might wait for 10 to 20 minutes or longer especially when it will be close to 10am when breakfast ends. Your bill will have a zero total but there is a spot where you can indicate how much tip you are willing to pay. We gave $10 for 4 persons which was charged to our room. It was a good breakfast overall with a nice rugged ambiance. My 2 stars are for the breakfast.

    « Great food »

Location near the casinos and beach. They start you off with a delicious fondue. Has a small full bar area. Great servers! Lots of dishes to choose from. Steaks are great! Good seafood and salads! Yummy deserts. Parking on the street and after dinner one can walk to the beach.

« Fine for a budget stay (but not still kinda expensive) »

A little spendy for the rooms and service at the hotel. Paying a lot just to be in Lake Tahoe on a weekend I guess. Hotel was clean and room was fine. Lunch on the patio was not very good, over-charred burgers and crazy expensive beer. Complimentary breakfast was very good at the restaurant, but beware going on a busy day and having to wait 30-45 minutes just to be seated for the complimentary breakfast.

    « Very comfortable & a great base for ski-ing in California & Nevada. »

Stayed in Feb 2015. Paid around £1000 for two standard rooms with breakfast for two adults & 3 kids aged 10-14. Very comfortable rooms. Breakfast cooked to order every morning which was very good and included coffee tea or hot chocolate. Breakfast was included in the price but not including the tip (which the mainly middle aged male servers told everyone every day - they were really very nice guys). Located around 200-300 yards from the south shore of the lake. Halfway through our stay it snowed big-time. The scenery became fantastic and was a sight to behold. Travelling from Bolton, U.K., we booked the trip ourselves which cost about £6000 in all, which wasn't really any more expensive than if we'd skied in France or Italy. The great thing about this trip is that you also get to visit San Francisco & the sights including the golden gate bridge, Alcatraz, Lombard Street, the cable cars and Fishermans wharf. We stayed the night at SFO airport heading off in our rented SUV and drove 4 hours or so to get there. My wife and i came skiing in Lake Tahoe for the first time in 1997 BC (Before Children). One of the most amazing contrasts about this place is that you can be freezing at the very top of station of the Heavenly Ski Resort at -5oC looking down over the Nevada desert and using binoculars you can see people at intersection gas stations filling their cars wearing sunglasses and short sleeve shirts. My only complaint about this second visit is that the ski passes have increased significantly in the price over the last 19 years!

Took a ride to Tahoe on Sunday and decided to stay the night. We came across this hotel! Wow, what a find. The price was fantastic. The room was huge, flat screen TV and the bed was very comfortable. Hot tub and heated swimming pool was beautiful. You get a complimentary breakfast, that was fantastic. There is a steak house right next door and you get a 10% discount. It's a bit pricey but well worth it! You also get a beach pass that includes 6 guests. One of the best places we stayed for that price!

    « Breakfast was great »

The Title says it all. I had reserved a king room on the first floor through tripadviser because I have balance issues and my wife is handicapped with feet issues and we can't take up suitcases and coolers upstairs using the stairs. This was the first time I had used Tripadvsor. This is a two story hotel with no elevators. When we arrived we were told there were no King rooms available on the first floor and they only had Queen rooms on the first floor. If we wanted a king room we could have to go upstairs take it or leave type deal. So we took the first floor Queen room. It was way out at the back end of the property. The bed filled up the whole room. It was the smallest queen room I've ever stayed in. I called the front desk and complained and they said they new the room was small but again they claimed it was all they had. I was tired, hungry and just wanted to go to bed. So that's what I did. I awoke early the next day and found out BW was going to charge me the King room rate for this crummy Queen room. I called Tripadviser and explained my situation and they told me they would look into the situation and would call me back or send me an email. never heard from them again. Went to breakfast and It was great. When I checked out I complained to the manger about the room being extremely small and he said all his queen room were small. He said BW requires a certain amount of furniture in a room. That's what makes the rooms small. Anyway he reduced my bill some but I really wanted all my money back but I didn't get it. I had stayed at 3 BW on this trip and they gave me exactly what i requested. I made the reservation. I wasn't pleased at all with Tripadvisor.

Breakfast is also great, and it's included.

We stopped in to see if they had an available room, we were staying at a casino that had NO services, I was so very happy to hear they had a room. Mindy at the desk was so helpful. It was a great move. This property is small yet has many amenities that the large hotels/casinos don't. This 2 storey hotel doesn't have an elevator. My husband is handicap and they did a wonderful job getting us a downstairs room. Included in the room charges are a fabulous made to order breakfast, discount at the restaurant for dinner, free access to the beach. They have a nice pool and hot tub. Nice deck area with walk up bar and food service.

First time ever in Lake Tahoe. I travel with two boys and my husband. We always look for a free breakfast, a pool, and Internet service, so this came up in our search. Other members of our family chose Postmarc, which was much prettier, but didn't have the amenities we always require. We also had a five minute walk to the Lake, which was a bonus. Would come back here and recommend for a family.

It's just 3 blocks away from a beach. Plenty of restaurants around. Also walking distance from Harrahs. Location is a big plus. Rooms were clean as well. They serve breakfast in a diner next to it, where you have an option to order one item from their breakfast menu along with a hot or cold beverage. It's definitely worth the money you pay.

Always treated #1 when we stay here. Love the mgmt. and staff. The breakfast, that is included in the room rate, is a full on, order from the menu, and it never disappoints. For dinner, you don't need to leave to get an amazing meal at Lou Mar Mels, the peppercorn steak is excellent! Enjoy

« Serene spot for your vacation »

It gives you that relaxing and vacation feel. We got the 2 Queen bed room and it does feel a little cramped inside but it is good enough since you will stay out more often to explore Lake Tahoe. The lake is walking distance from the hotel, 5 minutes away. The hotel provides you the ticket for the lake entrance usually valid on the duration of your stay. The breakfast is complimentary and not the usual buffet style of Best Western. It is fine dining for your breakfast. Anything from the breakfast menu can be ordered and you just need to pay your server's tip, so be generous at that. The place is far from the busy street so it is quiet. Gondola is not too far, 5 minutes drive so just bring your car to make the most of your stay.

    « Fine »

This hotel has passed its heyday and the western theme is now rundown and pretty tacky. Overall, it was clean but there were places of grime. We don't usually have cause to look closely at hotel carpet but my daughter spilled something and the carpet was revolting. The pool was great and my daughter appreciated the pool noodles. There's a complementary sit-down breakfast but we personally prefer help-yourself continental. We wanted to get away early to hike in the cool, and on one of our mornings the service was very slow. We also wanted somewhere to sit outside and enjoy the lovely evenings, but apart from the pool there really wasn't a good spot. Good location, close to a beach and the tourist centre of town. Doesn't have a microwave or a laundry, both of which are better for our style of travel.

« Perfect for our sprawling family reunion »

From the time we booked our block of rooms through check out, everyone at this hotel went out of their way to ensure we had a terrific family reunion. The proximity to the beach, a marina, the Heavenly Gondola, many restaurants and shops made the location a dream. I would recommend this spot for any group gathering.

    « Pricey but a good stay »

We stayed the week before July 4th. My room was pricey for a single queen room. I will call desk clerk next time before I book as she offered a phone special personally I did not get online. Room was very clean. Enjoyed complimentary sit down breakfast in restaurant each day. Pool area was small. Hot tub very small. I believe this is an older Best Western though every thing was done well. Very friendly desk personnel.

« Good location, clean but very small and cramped room. Expensive Restaurant. »

Hotel well situated for beach and shops on a quiet street. Voucher for free access to beach is of benefit to families. Our room was very small, dark and cramped. It was clean and bed was comfortable but less furniture and brighter decor would have been a great improvement to how it felt. Very large mirrors have been used in an effort to make room appear larger, but because of dark bed coverings and walls this does not work. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was OK, but not the best meal of our holiday by a long way, towards the bottom of the list, and it was the most expensive. My description would be pretentious. "Free" breakfast was OK. On checkout the computer was down so we could be given our invoice - room was prepaid, but we had added our dinner to the bill. I was told that it would be charged to the credit card and gave my email address for the receipt to be emailed to me - it wasn't. On arriving home the credit card had been debited by the correct amount, but it was a little disconcerting as this was towards the beginning of our 3 week holiday during which time I couldn't check the balance and transactions on the card.

    « Great location. »

We stayed here for two nights during a soccer tournament. Place in quiet, clean and well kept. It's sits in a great central location, 3 blocks up the street to Heavenly Village and 2 block down the street from the beach. They have a nice restaurant that serves made to order complementary breakfast, was vary good. We will stay here again!

Found this Best Western to be a very good place to stay. We were upgraded to a suite with no extra charge. Wonderful room. Breakfast was very good and the staff were all friendly. Highly recommend this Best Western in South Lake Tahoe

« Nice place, great location »

A nice motel in a great location. Easy walk to the shops, the beach, and to the casinos. Yes, it was a super small room, but it had all the amenities needed. And the staff is very responsive. Breakfast at the attached restaurant made the stay a bit more special, no cereal boxes or self-made waffles here. Would happily stay here again.

Wonderful time for a wedding. The hotel was at a perfect location for everything we had to do. I especially liked how close we were to the beach! The restaurant on location was excellent for breakfast, the staff very friendly and the premises very clean and tidy.

« Urgently needs an update »

I don't understand the recent positive reviews. We have been traveling through Washington, Oregon and California for the past 20 days, stayed at numerous Best Westerns and found our stay in Lake Tahoe underwhelming and one of the worst Best Westerns we stayed so far on this trip. The building and rooms urgently need an update to the 21st century. With the exception of the Marriot, I think you can say that for most Inn's , hotels and motels in Tahoe (although we did notice that many surrounding places were undergoing interior renovations). The rooms reminded me of my grandmothers home including the hay mattress I slept on back then where you could feel the springs. Upon opening the door to our room, the first thing that welcomed us was a moldy smell (we have had the same experience with the Best Western in Bandon). A complimentary breakfast is served at the adjacent restaurant Lew Marnell's where you can pick one item from the breakfast menu. Location is excellent if South Lake Tahoe is your thing. There is really nothing staff could have done to make our stay more pleasant because the problem is related to the infrastructure. I would say: ok for one night, pick something else if you stay here longer. The rooms are really depressing.

    « Great »

Stayed here recently and was very pleased. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable which was welcomed after a day of hiking. The hotel also had an on site restraunt that provided complementary breakfast and you could also do dinner for a fee but the front desk does give you a discount card if you do choose to eat dinner here as well. The beach is also just a short walk down the road from the hotel and they give you a pass to get on the beach for free which is a nice little perk considering no one wants to pay extra to access a beach they are staying that close to. The property was great and quiet and the staff was very nice and helpful. Shopping, restraunts and casinos were also just a short walk away and I felt safe walking to and from the hotel at night to do dinner or go gambling. I would recommend/ stay here again.

We arrived in the afternoon and checked in, everyone in the Lobby was super nice. Went out for some shopping and then went down to the pool. It was freezing in July! So we decided to go in the Restaurant/Bar to have a drink. Very nice place. We had breakfast at the Restaurant and it was great!! Way nicer than we are used to. We spent the next day on the hotel's beach and pool, we had so much fun. Lunch at the pool was amazing. Our room was the Nevada Suite and it was amazing. We really had a great stay.

« Best of Best Western »

I checked in early in the morning because I had been on the road. I was offered real nice sit down breakfast and coffee. I got my bathing suit on after breakfast and swam in the HEATED outdoor pool! Heavenly and total relaxation! Then after noon took a drive to the 89 hwy and took nice bike ride to camp Richardson. I travel alone and this trip was made %100 great because of the staff and the hotel's proximity to everything :)

    « Generous Management »

We stayed at the Best Western in South Lake Tahoe, California in June 2016. We arrived around 10:30pm, and were told that the hotel was sold out and that we were the last people to arrive. Our room was on the 2nd floor and there was no elevator, although I had requested 1st floor in the online reservation. Not a big problem. When we arrived in our room, it smelled like someone smoked in it, although it was marked as a Non-Smoking room. So I immediately contacted the front desk so that they would not charge us for smoking in a non-smoking room. They apologized, and gave us a discount for the inconvenience. The air conditioner was not running, so I turned it on and found that it was on heat mode at 88 F. So I turned it to Cool at 68 F. It ran a few minutes, then stopped running. There was also a thermostat control on the wall, that did not appear to be working. I called the front desk. They tried to reset it remotely, but it did not work. He apologized and offered an additional discount, as there were no other rooms available nor fans available. After trying for a half hour and doing some praying, the air conditioner started running again. I had to turn on the heat first, then switch it to cool. So we were good the rest of the night. Then we discovered that the double beds were full size and not queen size. That makes for a tight sleep with 2 people in each bed, especially when turning over at night. Queen beds are better, which most Best Western hotels have. The next morning, we attended breakfast at the adjacent restaurant. We had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. Then we were waited on by a very friendly waiter. After eating, we had been there about 45 minutes or so, which took longer than expected. Then we had to pay a cash tip, although the breakfast food and juice was included with the room. I recommend this hotel because of the location (just a few blocks from Lake Tahoe), cleanliness, and most of all the respect of their customers! The management gave us a generous discount for the problems by taking responsibility for the issues. We stayed at another Best Western on this same trip, and had issues that we were not compensated for. So we really appreciate that concern for customers and their production (quality). Thank you!!!

« Good location, breakfast and staff »

Other than the fact that the room was tiny (I could have spent more and gotten more) our stay was just fine. It was a very convenient location and everything worked. Breakfast was included and it was order off the menu and if they didn't have what you wanted they would try to accommodate you. They had what I wanted so no prob. Good place, bargain for the area.

« Old outdated dump with no microwaves and needs a total renovation or close it! »

Upon my check in, I was never recognized as a Diamond Rewards traveler? Very dumpy lobby... Should have been my first clue indeed. Parking is very tight and upon my entrance to the "room" I thought I had stepped into 1956? Really? This place has never had a renovation since it was built I think! Very tiny dark room, old bedspreads we all thew away in 1970... No microwave or refrigerator. I called the front desk and the short worded, curt man said " we don't have any microwaves or refrigerators in any of our rooms. I said " None" he said " No". I took my luggage and went back to the office and gave them the key and said that I was not happy with the quality of the room and would not stay there. The woman that took my keys said " we have a 24 hour cancellation policy" Even when the rooms are unacceptable? Really? As a Diamond Rewards member, I was shocked at the quality and rudeness of the staff for a Best Western. Don't stay here, your better off at Motel 6 than this dump! BTW I got a room right down the street way better and less expensive! BW, get your name off this property....

    « S. Lake Tahoe/ Station House Inn. »

« Very Close to Heavenly. »

The place is a typical lodge like facility. Although very small area but the place is kindda cozy. It is right off the Lake Tahole BLVD. -Very close i.e 0.2 miles from Heavenly village. You can actually walk. - very close to Lake side marina. ample of restaurants nearby and almost on the stateline between nevada and California. we actually walked to Harvey's and hard rock casino. you can safely walk in summer breeze upto heavenly village center after dinner and enjoy programs and come back. Overall this hotel is very convinient location. Only one thing we did not like is the breakfast is not buffet. You have to select from available menu only. The restuarant looked crowded during breakfast and the service was slow. I wished it could be done much better... the buffet helps rather than waiting to be seatied in morning. Had to pay extra tip in restaurant after breakfast. Reception is ok.

« Nice Hotel - Close to Beach - with Friendly Staff »

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights renting the Gingerbread Cottage. We found the staff at check-in to be very welcoming and helpful. The Gingerbread Cottage (listed as the larger cabin when you book online) was spacious and very clean. The housekeeping staff do a great job here. The bed was very comfortable, and the cottage offered all of the amenities needed. The cottage is a little older than expected, but charming. I also thought it would be closer to the beach based on something I read, but it is still close - about a 2 block walk. It was a little dark though, I think it could benefit (living room) from some overhead lighting or perhaps brighter lamps. The only thing that didn't work well was the washing machine. We could only get it to work on one cycle, so that could benefit with an update. The cottage also has a very nice 2nd floor deck off of the upstairs bedroom. We didn't try the breakfast, but I think it would have been good, since it is served in the restaurant and made to order. Overall a good stay and would recommend to others.

    3
    « Good location - hard beds »

The location is very good, within walking distance of the lake. The rooms are adequate but on the small side and too cluttered with unnecessary furniture. The mattress was very hard and aggravated my wife's back problems. I can usually sleep on anything but even I had a stiff neck and a headache after one night. The complimentary breakfast served in the next door restaurant was one of the best on our holiday.

    4
« Great hotel except for bar area of restaurant »

The hotel had everything as expected for a Best Western. The restaurant was wonderful. The rooms were also as expected for Lake Tahoe. The lounge area seating was very uncomfortable. It becomes "tight" depending on where you sit. The owners also frequent the lounge and are not considerate of the customers of their facility. I would recommend this facility, but to avoid the lounge area, if possible.

    5
« Great location, great breakfast »

I loved staying here. The property is three blocks from the lake and three blocks from the casinos. Free parking included. Perfect. The free breakfast is served in an adjacent restaurant. Not a continental breakfast, but a fully cooked, off-the-menu offering. Perfect. (The restaurant is also available for dinner and drinks in the evening.) Although the hotel prices are mid-range the one drawback here is that the rooms are small. My king bed took up almost all of the space in the room, leaving little walking room around two chairs, a dresser, desk and small coffee table. But so what? How much time do you plan to spend in your room at Lake Tahoe?

    5

    « Location, Location, Location-Rustic & Quirky.. »

Checked in on a weekday, our reservations for 3 nights were made well in advanced. Great deal of our usual researching Trip Advisor before coming. No upgrades or welcome gifts for us loyal Platinum BW card holders. We requested a king size room, upper floor. Ended up with a clean room facing Pine Boulevard & the ever crowded parking lot. One would think twice about opening your sheer curtains & brown drapes because of the people traffic outside on the exterior walkways. Makes for a dark hotel room. The room door also appeared to have seen better days. Yes, Lake Tahoe area is beautiful & the people are friendly. One thing for sure this place is all about cheaper prices & LOCATION. Unfortunately we were there in the height of the summer months so the prices were not exactly their cheapest. Positive Points: * Location & cheap prices compared to the Casino's & other formidable offering in the Tahoe area. * Front Desk staff were indeed friendly & helpful, busy to extremes during peak hours. * The old fashion tub/shower worked well, good H2O pressure, ok beds & linens, wifi. We didn't use the flat screen TV this time around. Try not to stay in room for anything other than sleeping. * Short walk to Casinos, golf courses, public beach, Heavenly Village Gondola, & Base-camp Pizza, best place to eat! * Landscape-flowers in areas around heated pool & restaurant patio & entrances. * Temperature controls is room are easy to use. * You might like the coffee they offer in the rooms "Seattle's Best Coffee." Needs Attention: * Rooms seemingly had very thin walls, snoring heard next door at 10 PM @ night. People in next room were yelling at someone on their room phone...disruptive mood. Had to turn fan/air conditioner on to block the noise out. Then it was too cold. * Loud bathroom fans that ran for lengthy times in rooms below. * Furniture in room outdated, especially large wooden amour sitting outside bathroom area. Two identical brown upholstered chairs with end table also out of the past. * Yellow, brown & orange decor in rooms gives off a rustic but 1970's ambience. * The outdated carpet between the bathroom and second sink area- found frayed & needing repair or replacement. * Lighting in room was dismal, not enough outlets, electricity upgrade is needed, very inefficient especially if you are staying for more than one night & have devices to recharge. * Outdoor walkways & surroundings grounds appeared downtrodden, years of humanity. *Crowded parking lot, needs a deep cleaning or a gigantic sweeping. * Small heated pool & even smaller hot tub area, good luck fitting everyone in. * Most everything needs an updated paint job. * Lack of room amenities that are normally in BW's such as microwaves or laundry facilities. * Long wait lines at the LewMarNel's Resturant "free" breakfast. We'll probably not return to this Inn.

« Good value especially in the shoulder seasons »

The rooms are clean and well-appointed. Lots of mirrors. Not fancy, but comfortable and functional. The included full-service breakfast is a nice feature and much better than the usual hotel breakfast bar.

    « Great Breakfast / Great Staff »

While the hotel itself seams pretty average, clean, well kept and quite rooms the few things that stood out were the staff and the breakfast. To start we were disappointed that the gondola to the top of the mountain was not in service. The desk clerk offered a suggestion to take a sunset cruise on the lake. It offered drinks, snacks and they picked up and dropped off at the hotel. They even offered to call and book the cruise. It was very nice by the way. The real surprise was for breakfast, as there was a restaurant on site the breakfast was ordering off the menu with amazing white table cloth service by a great staff. I highly recommend this hotel and would certainly stay again when we are in the area.

    « A Comfortable, but Older Property »

BW Station House in S. Lake Tahoe is an older property, but does everything well. It is a comfortable place to stay, and has an outstanding individually prepared and served breakfast included in its rate (no fix it yourself waffle bar!)

    4
« Fit in with the Lodge Feel of Lake Tahoe »

Certainly not a five star hotel, but clean, presentable, the desk personnel were extremely friendly. Probably needs some upgrading in the near future, but it felt like a lodge area from the seventies or eighties. I do not mean that critically. I felt it fit where we were. Just used the room for one night. Comfortable sleeping. Had a free breakfast at the restaurant on site. An excellent restaurant, by the way. Evening meal was fantastic.

    3
    « Perfect for a getaway weekend »

We have stayed in our fair share of upscale hotels, but this hotel is perfect for when we want to escape up to Tahoe for the weekend. The hotel has exterior hallways and the rooms are small, but this doesn't matter to us because we don't spend much time in the room. The location is great because the hotel is within walking distance to the beach, as well as the restaurants, shopping, and casinos. The full sit-down breakfast included with your room is something to look forward to each morning.

    3
« Motel-like stay, little tiny rooms with old-fashioned interior. »

We spent just one day at Lake Tahoe. As a BW platinum status holder, we mostly try to book BW hotels, as like this time. However, we got no welcome gift and upgrade. The room was very very tiny, and the furniture are kind of out of fashion. Probably next time we look for some other options around.

    « Vacation »

Great place to stay, prices very reasonable - better than any where else in CA. A block from the lake and down the road to Heavenly Village. Tram was closed and some other attractions until June - but the area was beautiful and people are friendly. Great restaurant right there, plus many places to eat in the village.

Nice clean, quiet property, older but well maintained. Great complimentary breakfast, full service, very nice staff who have been there for a long time. Same place has a very nice dinner, and small bar. On site restaurant, close to beach.

« Close to lake and excellent nights sleep »

Can't beat it for the price. Best nights sleep I've had at a hotel in recent years. The room temp stayed constant all night so the cooler fan didn't have to come on. Very close walk to the lake and in a quiet area off the main street. Very conveniently located to restaurants etc.

« First night in town »

O.K. having read the reviews I still booked the small King bed room and it was fine for two adults. It had two comfortable chairs with a table for reading as well as Mission style furniture that all matched...even including an armoire. That gets an A for effort in my book. The WiFi worked perfect even on my very old Nook tablet (who still has those anyway). The mirrors on the wall next to the bed are perfect for those selfies you never knew you wanted to take. Lastly the cooked to order breakfast was amazing and the service first rate. Well worth the discounted price of $70.00 plus tax booked online at Best Western.com.

« Weekend Vacation in South Lake Tahoe »

Great stay, the front desk personnel were very helpful and answered all the questions we had on the local thinks to do, the pool was heated, the hot tub was a little warmer than I like, but others I saw were having a good time in the tub, the restaurant has a wide selection of food choices, The room was very clean and stocked with all the necessities. Plus the best western hotel is a very short walk to the lake with a nice beach.

« Best Western South Lake Tahoe »

Nice hotel in between the lakeside and the shopping district. Nice and peaceful away from the busy road. The fire in the lobby is great and it looks like they have an outside fire area too. One drawback, the only Best Western we stayed at that didn't have a microwave in the room. There was one available in a funny room next to the lobby which worked fine but no amenities, just the microwave.

    3
« Good place to spend a couple of nights in South Lake Tahoe »

We stayed in an upstairs room with 2 queen beds, room was clean but a bit dark, it had a small fridge. There was a footpath through to the centre of the town by the Heavenly Gondola which made walking to restauants quick and easy and it was also a 5 minute walk in the opposite direction to the lake. Breakfast was freshly prepared with a choice of eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes and toast or pancakes or cereal with coffee or tea. Overall we were happy with the price we paid.

    4
« Quiet Oasis in Tahoe »

This hotel is close to many restaurants and the casinos in Stateline. It's just far enough away from the main streets into town from Highway 50 so it's very quiet and peaceful. The staff at the front desk is very nice and helpful. The complimentary breakfast is really outstanding.

« beautiful So. Lake Tahoe, California »

we stayed at the BW Station House Inn in So Lake Tahoe and were generally satisfied with the hotel. It does need some exterior cleanup and new paint. The room was ok, bed kind of leaned where sleepers normally sleep but was comfortable. On a scale of 1 - 10 of the BW we've stayed at in the past year, I'd rate this one a 6. The checkout staff was busy on the phone when I checked out and I didn't check my receipt until the following evening. They gave me the wrong statement. When I called, they fixed the problem and assured me that I was charged only for 1 night, and to my card and that the other room was NOT charged to our card.

    3
    « Family getaway »

The front desk was polite and helpful. The room was nice and clean. Blankets were lumpy and the beds were a little to hard for our liking. Breakfast was like a restaurant- at their steak restaurant on site- you were seated and given a menu- informed twice that it is free however tip was extra. I am assuming that in the past people have not tipped but I do not like being informed numerous times that I need to tip. Tipping is a given for services. Overall it's a good place to stay if you are on the go hitting up the area sights.

« Once in a lifetime experience made perfect »

When the employee who checked us in heard that we had just been married 2 hours earlier, she upgraded us to the honeymoon suite. Really melted our hearts and made for a beautiful weekend honeymoon. I have been rather loyal to Best Westerns for the past 4 years (since I realized that Super 8 could no longer be trusted for consistent quality). But, this weekend sealed the deal. They provided an extra special experience for our once-in-a-lifetime weekend. FYI: the lake is walking distance from the hotel. Just a block down Park in the opposite direction from the main thoroughfare.

    « great option for bachelor/bachelorettes »

My group recently stayed at this hotel for a bachelorette weekend and we had a great time! We considered staying at one of the casino hotels, but opted for the Station House Inn instead, because the prices were drastically cheaper, and the location is literally walking distance to the state line. The staff was fantastic, and the included breakfast was a great bonus. The rooms are nothing flashy, but were clean and in good shape. Can't beat the location and value for the price!

    « Good location - great breakfast »

We enjoyed our stay at the Station House Inn. A short walk to the Heavenly Gondola (Heavenly Village) and to the lake. Great breakfast at the restaurant (LewMarNels). Rooms could be updated but all in all a good, quiet place to stay. Looking forward to returning.

    « Great - Will stay again »

We usually stay in our timeshare when at Tahoe, but we were there just for a weekend and wanted to stay by the casinos and everything near the gondola. There are a lot of options, and many of them seem pretty shady. We were familiar with the Best Western because we had eaten at LewMarNel's many times over the years, so when we saw it at a decent rate, we decided to try it. It is a nice clean motel. You can back your car right up to the door, which is great when you are carrying a bunch of ski stuff. The room (we were in a queen) was pretty small but had a fridge, which is important. The lady working the desk at nights over Easter weekend was excellent, very helpful, I wish I had gotten her name. What really sets this place apart is the free breakfast at LewMarNel's. When a hotel/motel claims a free breakfast, you can usually expect something ranging from mediocre to subpar. This was excellent! You get to order from the menu and if you want to add a side of something, they let you. Juice and coffee are included. The waiters are first rate. It is fantastic and all it cost you is the tip! This and the fact that it is an easy walk to Azul, Basecamp Pizza, and the casinos made this a really good choice for us. I just wish they had a self service laundry...

« Great Hotel And Staff »

Check in Monday night for two nights. Had a King room reserved and when I mentioned it was our 30th anniversary was offered a complimentary upgrade to a suite for no extra charge. Possibly being a B/W Returns Gold member may have helped, not sure. We looked at the King room that we had reserved and it was perfectly adequate, but the suite was just great. The room was very nicely furnished with a great bed and nice large bathroom with Jacuzzi tub. Adjoining LewMarNel restaurant served a complimentary FULL breakfast that was excellent. Will definitely stay here again when we come back to Tahoe. Would recommend it in a heartbeat.

« Great hotel near heavenly mountain »

We are here for 2 nights to see around Lake Tahoe and heavenly mountain with family. Great affordable , nice and clean hotel , staff are friendly except the restaurant . Morning breakfast had to wait for 10-15 mins to get seated even its was not much people inside . Staff at restaurant need to be more friendly !!! Other than that everything looks good and comfortable stay without any issue ..

« Simple, clean and nice place to stay .... »

We chose to stay at the Best Western in South Lake Tahoe as it was close to the Heavenly Mountain Gondola ride and also the lake front. An average place and the rooms are a little cramped (at least the one where we stayed was), but probably normal for such motels in this area. The rooms are distributed over 4 separate buildings with just-about-enough parking space. The redeeming feature of this place was its hot breakfast with made to order eggs ! The restaurant is supposed to be very good for dining in too. The staff are helpful and cheerful. The gondola ride is just a few minutes walk from the motel and the lake front is a few minutes of walk the other way. Nothing great or exciting about this place, but no problems either.

Finally tracked down the Best Western and what a surprise. Front desk welcomed us and even gave us a complementary upgrade to a huge room. We really enjoyed our stay there along with the food at the place next door. Great staff. They gave great information about places to check out while we were there.

    « GREAT location...Needs a little help... »

I have always wanted to stay here BECAUSE it is a couple blocks to a great beach; close to the casinos; QUIET and, has the W O N D E R F U L Lew-Mar-Nel restaurant adjoining, also owned by Best Western...A dynamite and classic eatery for fine dining if ever there was one. My room needed a few repairs BUT the mattress and television and bathtub WERE GREAT!!! Yeah. It matters! Finally a hotel that provides some really decent in-room coffee, SEATTLE'S best... The lighting in these rooms though needs some real & serious help. Even with five fixtures? It is dim at night and needs a true OVERHAUL for every type of traveler, not just families or seniors but ALL seeking this hotel for lodging as it is really most inefficient. Other than this? Quiet. Good parking. Lovely lobby and staff. Yes, I'd stay here again providing they fix the very noisy bathroom fan! (-enough to wake the dead)

    « Exceptional Value »

When visiting the Lake Tahoe area, this is our go to hotel and has been the the last 26 years. We are able to get outstanding ski packages along the pampered experience of service. This is a must stay and we have always recommended this hotel to family and friends. If you prefer the small no nonsense hustle bustle this is it. You're walking distance to just about everything!

« Great Place To Stay In South Lake Tahoe »

We came up for the Easter weekend and were very happy with the accommodations. There were no spiders, the room was clean, bathroom was fine, and the room was warm. Can't complain about anything, and we appreciated the quick check in and out. Would recommend to anyone.

    « Easter Trip »

What a wonderful experience! All of the staff was professional and very helpful. I would absolutely recommend this hotel. The free breakfast was served quick and hot. All the waiters were great! James is the best! What a great guy! Always greeting us with a smile every morning.

    « Great stay »

My family and I enjoyed staying at the Best Western Hotel. We had originally planned for 3 nights and ended up staying another night. The service was great but the breakfast was exceptional! It was better than what we had expected. You definitely cannot beat that. We are looking forward to many more stays there.

« Pleasant stay with comfy bed and breakfast but not clean room and outdate bathroom. »

We stayed @ Gingerbread House Cabin for 1 night. Rooms were spacious and comfy bed, but kitchen and bathroom needs lots of upgrade. They provided the used sponge and disgusting soap bottle. I was afraid to look under the sink since it's all used stuff never been clean or removed. Black widow spider was on the wall, we stayed with kids. When I read other previous comments regarding the spiders in the room, this is so true. - Breakfast was nice and services were really attentive and happy.

Beautiful area - close to lake - walking distance to casinos-Breakfast was fabulous- the staff were very accommodating - Clean rooms - close to golf course We highly recommend staying at this Best Western location

    « Nice older hotel »

The hotel was older but our room was large and clean. Parking is a challenge. The best part is there is a nice restaurant on the property. Guests of the hotel are allowed breakfast at the restaurant. The staff of the restaurant was pleasant and the choices were great. Location of the hotel allowed us to walk to restaurants and the Casinos on the Nevada border.

    3
    « Not bad... »

The hotel is a few minutes walk from the lake and Heavenly ski resort. The room was nice and clean. However, the front desk staff was not very friendly. The lady seemed very impatient when I asked her questions.

« Ski Heavenly and Stay in Style »

Best Western is a quality brand as our room was first class with a location close to the slopes and Harrah's. In addition, Heavenly provided free bus service to and from the slopes. Further, the hotel provided a real sit down, full breakfast included with the room price. So we started each day with a great breakfast- 2 eggs cooked to our preference, orange juice, blueberry pancakes, coffee etc. Lastly, the room price was reasonable compared to others.

    « GREAT stay! »

Like many people, I chose to read reviews prior to reserving a room. The reviews all sounded great so we booked. Our favorite thing about our stay was the kind staff. They were all so helpful and punctual! The room was great for the price and location, only down side was the pillows were much more firm than we are used to. It is conveniently located only blocks from the beach, casinos, and ski lift, so we walked to all of them. The breakfast was in a sit down restaurant and allowed you to chose from a menu and be waited on, and this was INCLUDED in the cost of the room. Overall, this was a great hotel, staff, location, and price. We will definitely be staying there again!

« A great place to get a rest before your appointment. »

I got a very nice room with an upgrade that I did not request. It was totally complementary. This was a very nice touch. the room was made ready for me with the proper heating and was very comfortable and restful for my appointment. The restaurant was excellent and Michael the waiter was very attentive to my needs and very friendly. I highly recommend this hotel.

« Happy with the Station House »

Vacation time so hubby could ski. We arrived absolutely exhausted and was greeted warmly. Rooms were moved so I would not have to climb stairs. Our room was very nice. The heating system was easy to work and soon we were warm and comfy. They marked on the hotel map where we would find our breakfast. The next morning we went around and was very surprised to find a lovely restaurant with a charming waiter who took wonderful care of us each morning. Breakfast was part of our room charge. We spent 6 nights and never was disappointed that we had chosen the Station House. It was so convenient to every thing.

    « Excellent value »

Stayed one night for $90 incl tax, everything was excellent, good value. Decor surprisingly updated, everything clean, lots of cable channels, excellent hot made-to-order breakfast at a table with linen tablecloth. easy parking.

« When you want the best rest and food, go here. »

The only place that beats resting at home. I always love the atmosphere. The entire hotel is always very clean and inviting year round. The food is among the best we have ever had, and the wine list is world famous. I know of no place else where I feel more

    « Decent Enough »

Easy to find. Walking distance to restaurants etc. Queen size room was comfortable, though a bit cramped with too much furniture. Hot tub was on small size. Breakfast was off a menu with reasonable selection, and great service.

    5
    « Awesome place »

The Station house is close to everything, you can walk to the casinos and the gondola at Heavenly. The complimentary made to order breakfast in the morning is second only to the best, most friendly servers in the world. We had the gingerbread house which was huge for our group of 5 guys but awesome. The only complaint is that the hot tub is small, 7 people, 8 if you're small. It was maxed out most days after skiing.

    4
    « A Fine Place to stay »

The hotel was more than fine. Clean comfortable room. Great location, within walking distance of the lake and Heavenly and casinos if you're into any of those. My only issue was with the breakfast. The breakfast was very good, very good for free. But it's in a somewhat small restaurant, so if you mistime it, the wait can be 30-60 minutes. There is no alternative to just get a cup of coffee and a pastry or something. If you don't mind waiting, it is good.

    5
    « Best in Tahoe »

This is my favorite hotel in S. Lake Tahoe. You can not beat the location, price, and friendly staff. I will definitely go back many times. You are close to the lake as well as the casinos and skiing.

    5
    « Love the property »

Stayed here with my husband and daughter. Staff was very helpful and accommodating. Convenient location with only a short walk to Heavenly Gondola, Starbucks, and Raley's supermarket, etc. Complimentary full breakfast and wifi were great. The room was clean and the overall property was well-maintained. Definitely a great option to stay in South Lake Tahoe!

    3
« Three blocks from Heavenly Village »

I stayed here for five days and I have to admit the reason I chose this hotel was for location and price. It's conveniently located three blocks from Heavenly Village and one block from the State Line. Beside easy access to Heavenly you are within a 40 minute to Kirkwood and to the North Lake Tahoe ski resorts. For the five night stay I paid a little less then $100/nite for a king size room with daily breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Breakfast was OK mostly made up of your typical choice of eggs to order or pancakes with a side of bacon or sausage and potatoes. If you are looking for something more exotic head over to Driftwood Cafe.

    3
    « I love Lake Tahoe »

I would not recommend unless you do not have other option. BW is very old and smell inside the room. So, if you staying one night it might be OK but more than one night I would recommend to look for other place,

« Nice location, walking distance to the Gondola »

Nice hotel with complimentary breakfast. Staff is very helpful and pleasant. Conveniently located, only a short walk to the Gondola and all the restaurants. Kids friendly. When staying at Heavenly, I highly recommend trying the Basecamp Pizza restaurant. Great food and atmosphere at a reasonable price.

    4
    « Good value »

Over all it was a good experience with the hotel during a family skiing trip. The only negative thing was the very long wait to sit down for the complimentary breakfast although there were plenty of empty seats.

    5
    « Great Location »

We discovered this BW location about a year ago. It is well located - near the casinos and for summer - near a nice beach. It isn't fancy but it's a comfortable place to stay and a great value for the price. A full, made to order, breakfast is included. The restaurant is also very good for dinner.

    5
    « President's Weekend »

Another wonderful stay at this fine establishment. The service is excellent, the rooms clean and comfortable. Happy to say the wifi is now up to standard! Again the location, service, and included breakfast make this our favorite place to stay in SLT.

« Very nice hotel & Great location! »

This is a super nice Best Western! We are Rewards members and this was our first stay with the BW chain in South Lake Tahoe! Great location, nice hotel, and super friendly and accommodating staff! Excellent breakfast option, as well as evening dining is available, as well as bar. Can't say enough good about the BW Station House Inn! Also just a short block away from the Heavenly Valley Gondola and NV gaming casinos.

    4
    « Good location »

Small room but comfortable and clean. Quiet and close to state line. The included breakfast was a real breakfast ordered off the menu. Choice of eggs, pancakes, cereal, etc. Nice restaurant for dinner on the premises ( not free ??). Friendly staff. Only downside was that the hot tub was out of order.

    4
« Great location and fantastic aervice »

We spent 7 nights here for a ski holiday. It's a great base - very centrally located for Heavenly. You can walk to the gondola and resort complex. The room was incredibly clean and cleaned everyday to a very high standard. The breakfast included was incredible. Not many healthy options, however. But we got around this and brought our own almond milk and stuck to fruit and eggs. All of the staff here were so kind and helpful. I'd definitely recommended the hotel. The only downside was the noise outside because it's more of a motel and the rooms really need an upgrade. But the bed was heaven!

    4
    « New Years Stay »

The location of this hotel is great. It is short walk to Stateline and the variety of shops on the main road. It is tucked far enough away in the trees that you still can enjoy the quiet get away. It is also a short walk to the lake, though make sure to bundle up in the winter! The room it self was nice. They had original put us in a room with one bed and that was small, but when I asked where the couch was (included on the description) they moved me to a room with two double beds. The hidden fridge was a nice touch along with the heated lamps in the bathroom. If you plan on staying here for you trip, just keep in mind that you are getting what you pay for and that it isn't going to be as nice as the casinos up the street but I think it is worth saving the money. :)

« South Lake Tahoe Gem »

This is a great place to stay in South Lake Tahoe. All of the staff throughout the establishment is very capable and friendly. The location is perfect and the price was very fair, The restaurant attached to the property is outstanding and also one of the best I have eaten in in South Tahoe. You cannot go wrong staying here.

    4
« Decent, clean and friendly hotel; 7 mins walk from the ski gondola »

I stayed here for two nights over a weekend while skiing at Heavenly. The place is "motel style", with rooms opening direct onto the carpark. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My room were clean and spacious with a free coffee maker. The walls and ceilings are pretty thin; I could hear the TV from the room next door through the wall and people walking about in the room above. Earplugs were useful! A full, cooked breakfast was included in our room rate, which set us up well for a good day's skiing. The restaurant serves dinner in the evening - steaks, fish, pasta, etc. No burgers. And a bit pricey with mains in the $20 - $35 range. The hotel is about a 7 - 10 minute walk (or clomp in ski boots!) from the Heavenly gondola. There is an outdoor pool (not heated in the winter) and hot-tub (that was heated). I'd definitely stay here again but be sure to take my earplugs and I would probably eat dinner elsewhere.

    « Best Western Stay »

Other than staying at a B&B I always choose Best Western. The quality, staff and surroundings are top notch....don't consider any other place to stay...consistency and helpful ness of staff is always a plus..

« Better than average in a good location »

There are hundreds of motels and hotels in South Lake Tahoe and this one is probably at the upper end of the scale given the grim nature of some of the offerings elsewhere. A small room and a little dated, but clean, well-maintained, comfortable and fully equipped. Reception was efficient and the ski shuttle to the Heavenly Gondola was most appreciated. We enjoyed the small bar area in the adjoining restaurant and breakfast during our stay was excellent. However, the car park was left in a dangerous state for pedestrians and negotiating the icy surface in ski boots was tricky, to say the least. The hot tub looked a bit grubby, to be honest. Interestingly, we booked a January stay last July for a decent price. By the time we'd cancelled and rebooked a number of times though Booking.com, the price had virtually halved! A real bargain for this well-located and decent hotel.

    « Best Western Mini-Honeymoon »

My husband and I decided to do a short honeymoon after our wedding until our big honeymoon in Europe in Sept. Let me say, you know what you are getting when you stay at a Best Western. No, it's not a 5 star resort. The room was clean, hot tub was HOT and the free breakfast was great. It's walking distance to Heavenly and a ton of other great places to eat and explore. And it works when you are on a budget.

    5
« A great place to get a rest before your appointment. »

I was able to check-in early and the information they gave me on the road conditions was excellent. I was impressed at how well they maintained their parking lot so it was very easy to get around safely. This shows me that my safety was important to them.

« Great location and breakfast but the room... so so »

I had been looking forward to staying at the Station House Inn for quite a while. Having stayed in other places nearby this always caught my interest. Its a great location. Walking distance to the casinos, the gondola, shopping and the lake. But the rooms have a lot to be desired. The bathrooms has been renovated but he rooms are so very small it was uncomfortable. Sad to say I won't book there again unless it's in one of their cabins. I didn't even know they had cabins so wouldn't stay in main hotel again. The breakfast though was good. Small menu cooked to order but if you get the two eggs combo its a good healthy size breakfast. Staff were great but dinner at the restaurant is so expensive. Too many other good options to go to, go there instead.

    « Best Tahoe Stay! »

Friendly staff and awesome cook-to-order complimentary breakfast. The hotel is within walking distance to Heavenly village and gondola station. This hotel is a great venue for those who are planning to visit South Lake Tahoe.

« Great Place to Stay for Families »

My family and I were planning a ski trip for the Christmas/New Years holiday and the price at the Best Western sold us! It was a great price at a great location. We booked the King Suite since we wanted a king size bed and a sofa bed for the kids. I really liked the size of the room, and the tub! Oh my gosh! That tub was perfect after a long day of shredding on the mountain. I would definitely use the Best Western again for a family ski trip! I also recommend taking advantage of the free breakfast. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff was so friendly!

    4
« Good place with free cooked-to-order breakfast »

Stayed 2 nights for skiing. Room was clean and comfortable. Restaurant on premises had breakfast made to order, albeit off a very limited menu. Tried the outdoor spa one day, it was nice and hot for awhile, but cooled down after awhile for some reason.

« Good for short stay »

It was our second visit to lake Tahoe this year this time we decided to stay at best western station house inn. Location is good as it is very close to the lake marina with free beach access and on the another side 5 minutes walk to heavenly gondola and all. Our overall stay was good but if you have a baby it might be a problem because they do not have a microwave in any of the rooms. In order to use the single microwave we had to go downstairs cross the reception area and then go to lobby. Not helpful if it is freezing cold and and snow all around. Other than that our stay was comfortable with nice bed and tv, two sinks , clean bathroom and good service. Breakfast is served in a restaurant inside the hotel itself. You sit on table and order from menu. Service was very good in the restaurant but i would have loved buffet more in my personal opinion. Overall very good if you don't need a microwave in your room.

« Nice midweek stay in ski country »

Great hotel and restaurant in downtown South Lake Tahoe. We just stayed in cozy (but small) hotel room and used onsite restaurant rather than walk a few blocks to casinos. Midweek winter price was terrific. I assume price goes up on weekends and holidays but great value midweek. Had nice fish meal at onsite steak restaurant, so can't vouch for quality of their steaks. Overall terrific little place that we'll definitely return to.

« Location and Breakfast. 'Nuff Said »

We have stayed at the Station House Inn for several years because of the high value, incredible proximity to the Heavenly Gondola, and the full cooked-to-order breakfast that is at the Lew Marnel's restaurant on site, and will continue to do so. It's not about fancy, it's about function but it's perfectly nice and the staff are friendly and helpful.

    « fri night »

Nice stay. Friendly staff. Easy book and check out processes. Not extraordinary or WOW factor, but good. Would stay there again, but not for a special occasion. Close to Heavenly, Harrah's and the water front so excellent location.

    « Excellent stay »

Very close to Heavenly Sking area. Really enjoyed the free breakfast and the service. Well maintained room and surroundings. Easy access to near by attractions. Stayed for two days. Microwave Oven would have been helpful druing the winter storm.

« Casual and Cozy - pros and cons... »

Upon arrival, after a 5 hour drive, we were upgraded to a suite on the first floor, my husband requested a ground floor room and loved being able to park right in front of our room. The suite had all the amenities that make staying comfortable, very well vacuumed and dusted. Bathroom was very clean and well lit (except for an small bit of black-colored mold in the grout on the far corner of the shower) with a vanity across the hall from the bathroom, so that the door could be closed when occupied. One odd thing was that where was not lid for the toilet - gack. There was a large jacuzzi tub with a built-in shower which could be tricky for mobility-impared people - it is set deeper then a standard bathtub, but we managed using the well-placed grab bars. The decor was 70's golden brown, with ski racks and a cute little cedar-lined closet. No fire place in the suite, but it was quite cozy and well ventilated - with a very quiet HVAC system. While we had no view, per se, we did have a nice sliding door which opened out to a surprisingly pretty residential street, with rustic cabins, etc. And while there was no snow that day, we could well image how magical it would have looked... My husband and I were very comfortable here, and it was nice to curl up on a comfortable couch and chair, with spacious coffee and end tables to chat about our day, and watch tv. Plenty of room to plan our next day's excursion... Now a note on the restaurant... I've read the many mixed reviews here, so I'll dive in too. We had dinner here the night we arrived, with a 10% off coupon. Both of us had the rib eye, both ordered medium rare. I guess we should have ordered rare medium because my steak was well done - tasteless. My husband gave me part of his, which was at least pink, but not what we ordered. Apparently, the fabulous steak chef, mentioned in other reviews, took the night off. Very lack-luster (our word for mediocre) and not worth 48+ a plate. Mayo and lemon juice over huge pieces of iceberg lettuce does not a caesar salad make. Inedible. My husband's thousand island looked like they have emptied the bottle on his salad... Now, honestly, there were only two other couples in the place on a Wednesday night. Was the fry-cook rushing???? NOT a chef back there... The merlot-by-the-glass was really bad, big bang no finish... $10 disappointment. The "homemade" apple pie was a stale, sad joke - but it was sold to us as being made in-house. We don't mind paying for good food, but this is a pretension is not worth wasting you money on. NOW, the good word. Two free breakfasts that were perfectly done. All the food was fresh and absolutely delicious, from the oj to the pancakes. So if we divide the $130 (including tip) we paid for dinner by one dinner and two breakfasts for two people... We end up with an average of $43 a meal including tips. So, in summary, we enjoyed our stay. We liked the quirky room and loved the free breakfast, but dinner was an epic fail. Yes, we would stay here again, Best Western Rewards...

    « 1 night in Tahoe »

I was in Lake Tahoe for a concert at Harrah's and usually try to stay at this Best Western because of the price and location. Service is always excellent. Breakfast is at a Steak House that is located on the property with a limited menu but very good service and food.

« Best Western Station House S. Lake Tahoe »

We loved this hotel! The staff was very nice, the room was updated and clean, and the spa/pool area was very nice. The cooked to order breakfast was such a great perk!! The only downside was the mattress...it could use a softer topper.

    3
« Fine for a Night; Good Location »

After checking at the Stateline casino hotels and finding they wanted to charge a $22 resort fee for basically nothing but a newspaper, the internet, and parking, we decided to stay at the Best Western, especially since the front desk staff gave me a decent rate (this place gets really expensive in the summer months). The complex itself consists of three motel-type buildings around three small parking lots, resulting in a cramped feeling. There is also a small attractive pool area and a restaurant. The motel is also within walking distance (about a long block) to the beach (it is billed as a "private" beach, but it seems anyone can get in). The casinos are also within walking distance, but it is a long and somewhat treacherous walk (no sidewalks), especially at night. Our king room was nicely stocked with a comfy chair, refrigerator, microwave, wardrobe, and flat-screen RV, and the bathroom had an outside vanity/sink with another sink inside the toilet/bathtub area. The only quibble is that the room is a little small for all of the dark, Mission-style furniture crammed in it, and the entire room seemed a little dated. We also had a problem with the TV not working, but staff were quick to resolve the issue (turned out someone took a needed cable. A full breakfast in the restaurant is included and even though the menu is a little limited, our eggs/potatoes/biscuit were very good and the service was excellent. A good place to spend a night but it doesn't quite live up to it's BW "Plus" designation.

    2
    « Old & Out dated »

Musty, old smell in room...broken light timer...peeling paint...overall, very dissatisfied with Best Western in South Tahoe. We use Best Western the majority of the time while traveling, but this particular stay was not a good one. Their staff was friendly and helpful, but the room was just too old and smelly to have paid over $100.

    5
    « Very good option »

Everything worked fine. The rooms were comfortable and clean, as well as the bathroom. The bed was very good, with an assortment of pillows of different type, so you can find one best suited for your taste. A great option for all the people seeking a good place to stay in the Lake Tahoe region. The free breakfast was very good too.

« Stay at South Lake Tahoe »

Although the motel was a little older, the rooms were very nice and the location was in a quiet area but close to the entertainment area. The restraint that was with the motel was excellent with great service and very reasonable with respect to the high quality of the food.

« Lovely hotel in a great location »

We spent 2 nights at this hotel and enjoyed ourselves immensely. We booked one of their suites and it was worth the extra money, the space was incredible. Room was spotless, bed was very comfortable and it was very quiet. Check in and checking out was a breeze from very helpful staff at the front desk. The complimentary breakfast was included in the room price and was very good. All in all a great choice and comes highly recommended.

    2
    « just ok »

Even with having they're best room, it wasn't the greatest place. The free breakfast wasn't anything to brag about, and very limited. However they're service was great. Would i stay again, maybe for a really good deal.

    4
    « Great Stay »

Came for a hockey weekend. This hotel accommodated our team last minute with a great deal. The room is older style but clean. Best thing is the full breakfast that is free made to order. All the staff from the front desk to our server were were super nice. I will put this place in my come back to list.

    3
    « Fine hotel just don't make a complaint »

This hotel was fine. It's an old hotel but from what we noticed most hotels in the area were older. The price seemed fair, it's a short pleasant walk to the lake, the beds were average (ours sagged a little in the middle), the room was very clean, and the breakfast was amazing. They send you to a restaurant next door and it was one of our favorite parts of the day. My only complaint was that the hot tub was malfunctioning. The first night my kids were excited to go get in and my son stuck his legs in for about 30 seconds and pulled them out and they were burned. I had him stick them into the cold pool for several minutes to stop the burn. His legs from the calves down were red and warm to the touch for the rest of the night (like a minor sunburn). I was just glad he or any of my other kids didn't jump full in and burn the rest of their body. He's fine and it's okay. The thing that upset me the most was how the front desk handled it. I asked them to post a note stating not to use it. ( I didn't want anyone else to get burned) The lady told me that the hot tub was fine and that he should not have used it in the first place because he's a child, (he's 9). She also had the gall to tell me I had no business to use it because i'm pregnant. I didn't get in I had jeans and a t-shirt on. I don't know why she even brought up my pregnancy. I thought it was weird. I just didn't want anyone else to get burned. The next night however my husband turned the hot tub to off about an hour before he and the kids got in and it was perfect. There must have been something wrong with the temperature regulator and allowing it time to cool down was all it needed. All in all it was an okay hotel, had the beds been more firm it would have been perfect, I'm 6 months pregnant so I think I'm extra critical of the beds my husband thought it was okay.

« OLDER FACILITY BUT WELL MAINTAINED AND QUIET »

We had not stayed at this hotel before but we certainly would again. It was clean and comfy and most of all quiet. We were there in the "off" season for Tahoe but there was no "off" season here when it came to service. The breakfast was held in the restaurant across the courtyard and it was most delicious. All in all....we would frequent this facility in the future if the occasion arises. It is a worthy member of the Best Western family.

    4
    « Surprisingly good! »

This older property consists of several two story buildings with exterior corridors, with an on-site restaurant, pool (closed for the season) and hot tub. It appeared in excellent condition, inside and out. I suspected frame construction, and therefore noise from adjoining rooms, but perhaps because the hotel seemed to have many vacancies on this off-season Sunday night, our room was completely silent. The room itself is smaller than in a new Best Western, and would not have held two beds, but was perfectly adequate for a king bed and two dated-appearing but comfortable side chairs. The rest of the room had obviously been renovated. The small bath had a newish tile floor, granite countertops and glass doors on the shower; there was a second sink in the dressing alcove. The refrigerator is neatly concealed in the dresser. There is a free-standing wardrobe, ironing board and iron, but no in-room safe. The bed was very comfortable. The location is in a quiet, wooded area several blocks away from the highway (and highway noise), a big plus. And instead of a breakfast buffet, guests are provided a cooked-to-order breakfast from the on-site restaurant (anything on the menu, including coffee and what tasted like freshly squeezed orange juice) for the cost of a tip, another very big plus. The front desk staff were great; we were even able to check in when we arrived at noon. Wi-Fi worked flawlessly. As this property is a basic Best Western (not a Best Western Plus or Premium) and it received only two diamonds from AAA, I was not expecting this level of comfort. I've stayed at Best Western Plus properties that were considerably less desirable. I'd stay here again, were I to return to South Lake Tahoe.

« Mirror mirror on the wall... »

The BW in south Lake Tahoe is an older complex from the outside that actually fits quite well between the various cabins around the lake. Situated a few blocks away from highway 50 which makes for a quiet neighborhood and only a short walking distance away from the lake itself. The rooms have some what been refurbished new paint was applied and a gimongous Mirror installed opposite of the window either in an attempt to make the room appear bigger or well... The room is relatively small yes but then you are not driving up to Lake Tahoe to spend all day in a BW room right? We had enough space to store our overseas luggage and all the rest. The bathroom features a Shower Head that looks like it is right out of the Apollo Program but at least most of the water actually reached you. The ventilation fights it's noisy and hopeless battle against the shower steam as usual. But the bath and the rest of the room is clean. Some parts in the room would need some care like the various lamps and, yes not everything is on the latest standard. Service Staff at the front desk is quick and professional. All in all its a good place to sleep and stay. And here comes the highlight: the Breakfast. We've stayed in a lot BW all over the western USA but this is by far "the best" breakfast we've had in a BW so far. Everything on the menu is included freshly prepared and very delicious. We stayed 3 days and tried pancakes, oatmeal, eggs and French Toast all meals were prepare perfectly in fact we never had better pancakes and Brad our waiter can be described only as a master of his profession: friendly, fast, welcoming and funny we just liked him. I would stay there again

    « Very good value »

We lived at Lake Tahoe for almost 10 years, and when it was time to go back we chose the Station House Inn from local reputation. It did not disappoint. Ambiance and atmosphere perfect. Front desk staff responsive and engaging. Amenities are great value. Inclusive breakfast at LewMarNel's Restaurant was a pleasant surprise - despite being a 'sold-out' weekend, the wait-staff handle guests will alacrity. Restaurant tone was perfect. Room well appointed. Bed was average. Location 2-blocks from beach cannot be beat. Stateline also within easy walking distance.

« Great Breakfast and Location »

The room at the hotel was clean and pretty average, but was completely overshadowed by the great service, location and way above average complimentary breakfast. Instead of going to a lobby area, the hotel had a restaurant and a menu. The waiters were very professional and the food choices were excellent. The beach and downtown area were only a few blocks away. I would stay there again. Several friends stayed in the hotel and all thought it was great. Shopping, casinos and tram to the top of the mountain were all within walking distance. Granted, the room was small, but I wasn't there much of the time, and it was clean and comfortable.

    « Had Some Issues »

My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel for two nights. On the positive side, the hotel is in a good location (not far from the beach) and attractions, the staff was very pleasant and helpful, and the room was clean. The included breakfast was served in the restaurant (with waiters unlike many other BW hotels which are self service), and there was a limited but satisfactory menu. On the negative side, the room was tiny. There was barely room for our luggage, and it was difficult to navigate from one side to the other. Upon arriving, the TV was set on the wrong input source. Fortunately, a quick call to the front desk resolved that issue. Wi-fi was terrible. It was slow and we kept losing our connections. We are "fans" of Best Western, but this hotel was not on par with most where we have stayed. I realize that this is a high traffic tourist town, and therefore the cost was a bit higher, but that higher cost with the problems experienced do not make for good value.
