« Gluten and sugar free with no fuss »

Thank you, I needed a restful break and got it. We were upgraded to a view of Capri, with large balcony with deck chairs. Big double bed and large room, tea making, bath, good sized TV. Shuttle every hour until 11.15, very good and friendly service. Sorted out my gluten free and sugar free needs efficiently and with care, staff so good at making us feel looked after. Everyone made to feel special.

« Nice hotel outside Sorrento »

I stayed in this hotel 1 week to relax before taking a class in France. I wanted a quiet hotel with a great pool, and this hotel was great for that. Pros: - Excellent pool with lots of well-maintained deck chairs. - Food was good, prices were reasonable for the high quality. - Service was great. The employees knew my preferences after only a few days. - Sunday night they had a special dinner on the pool deck. The food was amazing and the staff was singing at the end. Very cool. Cons: - Located outside the city of Sorrento. The hourly bus was prompt, but you had to plan around the bus schedule. Too far to walk from the city to the hotel, and the road was windy and dark at night. Taxi to the hotel was ~40 euros. - Most of the other guests were on all-inclusive meal plans. The restaurant seemed to be geared toward that model. I felt awkward going to dinner not having an assigned table number because I wasn't there as part of a package. The hotel facilities were great and the staff were friendly. The bed was hard, but that seems to be the norm in southern Italy. Very quiet at night. Wi-Fi was good, I got some work done with no drop outs. I would stay there again if I couldn't find another hotel in town with a great pool. I mainly went there for the pool and it didn't disappoint.

    « Fantastic Stay »

We chose this hotel due to the previous reviews being so positive. They were not wrong, we were a large party of 10 on holiday celebrating my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary and they were made to feel special by the fruit bowl and fizz that awaited them. All the members of staff we encountered were friendly and helpful, especially in the dining room where we had a few requests for plain food after a bout of illness that our children must have bought with them. Even at the end of season, when all the staff must have been longing for a break they still managed to be cheerful and the hotel was spotless. The pool was particularly good as it was really warm, clean and still open at the end of October. The hourly shuttle into and out of Sorrento is a fantastic bonus and so convenient, especially as it would be quite a trek into the main shopping area. I would definitely recommend you stay here if you're looking for a clean, relaxed, friendly holiday.

« Perfect tucked away from the crowds »

Large room with balcony. Heated pool. Hourly minibus into centre of Sorrento (too far to walk). Fabulous breakfast. Really great customer service from all the staff we encountered. Highly recommend. If arriving by train minibus picks up 3 minute walk away.

« Quite simply great service, superb food »

Quite simply great service, superb food & wine and a relatively large pool for the area. The perfect base for exploring the Neopolitan Riviera and it's fascinating sights. Thanks for a wonderful holiday!

« bella bella, La Solaro magnifico what a wonderful hotel. »

This is a lovely hotel and the staff are fantastic, the free bus into town takes about 10/15 minutes and runs every hour back and forth and drops you very centrally near the main square; I would definitely go back.

« Couldn't fault, just not for us »

This is a really lovely hotel. The staff, every one of them are attentive, responsive and helpful. It is spotlessly clean and the rooms are lovely. We had a gorgeous sea view room, albeit a tiny balcony. We just didn't really like the waiter serviced dinner, a bit stuffy for us. It felt like a cruise on dry land. Imilely the pool bar at lunch time. Thi I no reflection on the staff they were wonderful and we realise that a lot of people enjoy this waiter service. We enjoyed breakfast very much. It is a way put of town but the courtesy bus is fantastic ... honestly there is no fault to be found. Thank you to all

    « Good to return! »

We stayed at La Solara the first two weeks of October and for the second time this year. We received a warm welcome once again and we keep returning because nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The hotel is immaculately clean, the service is excellent, and the overall ambience is calm and relaxing. For us, the highlight of our stay has to be the quality and variety of the food. The hotel wi-fi signal is good. Evening entertainment is offered on a couple of days, which is just right. The out of town location offers great views if you have a sea view room, and it is easy to get into Sorrento on the courtesy bus. We shall return!

    « Amazing stay!! »

My husband and I enjoyed a holiday from 21 - 28 October 2016 at La Solara with our daughter, son in law and grandson. They had stayed twice previously and were eager to take us with them. Our expectations were very high as we had heard so much about the hotel from them. It excelled our expectations in every way. The staff, without exception are amazing, so busy, but time for everyone, young and old. I cannot pick out individually really members of staff as they are all so friendly, welcoming and make you feel so special. Having said that, I could not submit a review without a mention of Peppe who is an absolute delight. He is so happy and friendly with everyone and it is so obvious that he loves his job (keep it up Peppe you could finish up in complete charge of the Best Western group)! The other staff people, Nello in particular, he remembered our grandson from previous holidays which is really nice also on an evening of entertainment it was a delight to hear the bar waiter do a rendition of Elvis, very nicely done and entertaining. Peppe to our surprise was also very melodious! The cleanliness of the hotel is to be applauded,, not a speck of dirt anywhere, bedding and towels immaculate and a chocolate left on the bedside tables each evening, (by fairies perhaps, wouldn't be surprised as the hotel itself feels very magical). The food is lovely and presented so well. The gala evening was a joy and a complete surprise to my husband and myself. The chef's all lined up afterwards to great applause and justly deserved. The swimming pool is heated and in October this was greatly appreciated. Having said that the weather was lovely all week except for one day of rain and a thunderstorm. The shuttle bus was greatly appreciated also and the drop off point in Sorrento was central and near the railway station etc.,I cannot praise the hotel staff enough for making our holiday with our family one to remember and hopefully we will return (soon as possible)

    « Great hotel »

Amazing views, really friendly staff, pool lovely, great shuttle service - which you couldn't stay here without. Great choice at breakfast. Only criticism is that the decor is slightly dated. Would recommend staying here, as long as you're not looking for a lively hotel.

    « Exceeds expectations »

Friends and reviews highly recommended this hotel. It completely exceeded expectations! The staff were friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. The food was wonderful quite simply the best hotel food we have ever eaten. Already planning to return.

    « Brilliant! »

Our 3rd visit to this superb hotel in beautiful Sorrento. From the second we arrived with a hug from Peppe to the moment we left our holiday was excellent. Service is the watchword of La Solara and it succeeds in every way. The staff are brilliant, nothing is too much trouble for them. The hotel is beautiful, from its' position overlooking the Bay of Naples to its' well appointed rooms and public areas.. The food is wonderful and dinner each night is eagerly anticipated. We love that the staff always remember you. We will return again. Thank you to Marcello, Nello, Franco, Angelo, Peppe and all the staff who made our holiday so enjoyable.

    « Wonderful! »

We have just had 1 week at the Hotel La Solara and it was absolutely wonderful! The staff are professional, efficient and so very friendly, and that is ALL the staff that we met, the reception staff were so polite and efficient, the housekeeping staff always smiled and spoke and do a fantastic job keeping the beautiful rooms so very clean, the waiters were brilliant, again efficient with a wonderful attitude which creates a real joy to enter the restaurant. The food was gorgeous and plenty of it, the gala night was nice where we could see and appreciate the chefs who obviously work so very hard behind the scenes. The bedrooms were well appointed, lovely, quiet, clean and the beds exceptionally comfy, the tea/coffee facilities in the room were much appreciated too, and the view from our sea view balcony was picturesque. At the end of our holiday I know most people do not want to leave but we Really didn't want to leave. I know this hotel has a lot of repeat clients and I can see why. I can usually find fault with something but I can honestly say that I couldn't here, we just loved it! Please keep up the good work Hotel La Solara, you are doing everything right!

« lovely hotel away from busy sorrento »

Just returned from a lovely stay at this hotel. The staff were very polite and friendly. The welcome drink was very nice before we went to our room, and we received a nice surprise of a bottle of bubbly and some snacks to our room for our wedding anniversary. The food was very good with lots of choice and a good salad bar to help yourself too. The hotel bus was needed to get down to Sorrento always on time, you can walk down to Sorrento but the road is narrow with busy traffic,if you ask you can get dropped of part way down where the footpath starts it's a lovely view from there. You can get buses and trains from Sorrento to lots of places like Pompeii and Amalfi. Just want to say thank you for a lovely stay.

    « Great for a Relaxing stay »

Just returned from a week here. The hotel is set high up on the outskirts of Sorrento town, the views are stunning over the sea. As there is only 58 rooms, there is a homely feel. There was a bottle of Champagne and canapes in our room when we arrived (we were celebrating a special occasion) and our room which was spacious and clean over looked the pool. The food in the restaurant for dinner is lovely, has a great selection and service is excellent. The pool is big and there is ample loungers for guests. Food in poolside bar isn't up to the same standard as dinner unfortunately. The shuttle bus service into town is excellent. Hotel doesn't appear to take cash, which we found frustrating at times as we would have liked to pay as we go, although reception will provide an updated bill at any time.

« Lovely Hotel but not as quiet as expected ! »

This is a lovely small hotel with good food, very clean and a very friendly atmosphere. It is a few miles outside Sorrento but the excellent courtesy mini bus operating hourly in and out of Sorrento from 0745 until 2315 more than compensates for this. The nature of the Hotel means that people mix well, new friendships were formed and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. One thing not apparent from the website/brochures is that this Hotel is on quite a busy and noisy main road. We had booked this holiday 11 months ago through Thomsons and requested a quiet room on a high floor with a sea view and balcony (for which we paid extra) - previous reviews I had read suggested this was a good option ! It was disappointing therefore to be allocated a room on the first floor, directly over the main entrance. During the first few days of our holiday there was not air conditioning on (apparently it gets switched off at the end of September), and the room was very warm at night. Leaving the patio door open meant being disturbed at night by late arrivals and deliveries to the Hotel - not a very good night's sleep ! After requesting that the air conditioning be turned back on, this was done, and things were slightly less noisy, but I would still have preferred a quieter room even if it meant not having a sea view !

« Another wonderful stay at Hotel La Solara, »

Thank you to everyone for making my 60th Birthday a time I will always remember and our 7th holiday as perfect as ever. It was lovely to see all of the staff again, who are a credit to this hotel, each and everyone one of them, their service and hard work is exemplary. This hotel is perfect in every way from the attentive staff, to perfect surroundings just outside busy Sorrento, there's a complimentary bus service. A lovely hotel, the rooms are spacious and clean. We had a sea view room and terrace on the 3rd floor. The food in the restaurant is superb! There is an enormous pool and excellent bar service. Entertainment is provided three times a week. We cannot wait to return for our next visit, many many thanks to everyone

    « Lovely Hotel »

I booked this hotel after reading about it on this site. The hotel is extremely clean & well looked after. The food is beautiful & the chefs make some beautiful Italian dishes. Most of the waiters are brilliant & nothing is too much for them. One waiter though gets a bit moody & the plates are dropped in front of you! That same waiter doesn't wait for you to finish the food before he removes the plate from you! We found this extremely rude & asked him if he'd wait until we finished. After that he left the dirty plates on our table for almost 15 minutes between courses! The bedroom was a lovely size & the cleaners kept it spotless. The only problem I found was that the bed was so hard & uncomfortable, I didn't sleep properly for the entire duration my holiday. I ended up going home very run down & exhausted!

    « 45th wedding anniversary »

What a fabulous holiday. Everything was first class, super hotel, fabulous food, excellent decor and surroundings. Scrumptious food. First class staff in bar, restaurant and reception. First class all round. 11 out of 10.

    « Fabulous ! »

We have just spent five days at la Solara for our 35th wedding anniversary. We chose it for its excellent reviews and how true they are . On arrival you are greeted with a glass of fizz while your cases are brought up then you can check in at your leisure .Every single member of staff was happy friendly and very helpful. We had a room with a wonderful sea view and a huge balcony with sun beds and a table and chairs. We also had a lovely fruit basket as I had emailed to let them know it was our anniversary. The whole hotel is spotlessly clean as are the bedrooms . The pool area is very sunny and you can have a nice lunch out here too .The food was excellent and a new menu daily with plenty of choices and fabulous service . The part we found so nice is that all the guests chatted to each other and shared tips of trips and places to visit . The hotel bus was a great idea and we used it every day to pop into Sorrento in about ten minutes . I can now understand why so many guests return each year. Well done la Solara we look forward to coming back .

    « Autumn Break »

Please disregard the Best Western reputation, this hotel is superb. Great facilities and a great location. All staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. The hotel occupies a space on the hillside overlooking the Bay of Naples just outside of town. A courtesy bus running on the hour form 07:00 until 23:00 each day means that is an advantage not a drawback. We stayed half board and were very impressed by the food, if for some reason the menu does not suit on any given day just advise the waiters and they will ensure you get something to suit you. It has to be said they also cater for those with dietary requirements too, just tell them in advance. The pool is heated out of main season and is service by its own bar and snack facility. Overall a great place to stay with attentive, helpful staff.

« Lovely hotel, ideally located for peace and quiet »

We stayed here as a family of 5 in August 2016. I read the reviews with interest prior to making the choice to stay here, and went armed with this information and wondered whether it'd be that good. I like to keep the reviews I write factual rather than emotional, so here goes... The welcome was first class, after a 2 hour journey from the airport (I kid you not - in august it's traffic hell ) we were greeted to prosecco and nibbles in our room, whilst the children and my dad had a beautiful fruit basket awaiting them. The waiters in the restaurant were lovely, especially Franco, Nello and Marcelo. The only downside for us that one of the waiters went from being attentive and funny to a sullen moody, and quite rude person towards the end of our stay..not the kind of memory you want to leave with really after paying so much for a holiday. Good points: food, majority of the staff, cleanliness and location. gala dinner was lovely Not so Good : Bar Prices ( twice that of Best Western in rome), lack of ambiance in the evening other than twice weekly "cabaret" of sorts Really good shuttle bus service every hour in to Sorrento. You can get the bus at 9.15 after dinner and get the last bus back for something to do in the evenings There is a launderette just as you get in to Sorrento, if you ask the driver he will drop you there and also pick you up on his way back round to the hotel. Highly recommend this rather than taking too much clothing, very reasonable rates You can opt to have a 3 course lunch instead of dinner if you'd rather go out in the evening Pool Bar prices for food were very high - especially if travelling with children - sharing a toasted sandwich with fries or a pizza is a good option We asked the hotel to book a boat trip for us, as we didn't like the look of the tourist trips. this was an excellent move and we end ed up going out on Salboat - see my review on the Salboat page - it was amazing

« great location and friendly staff »

We stayed for 11 nights and after our initial disappointment of a balcony room with no view at rear of hotel was dealt with by reception staff upgrading us to a pool view balcony room we had a great stay. The hotel was spotlessly clean and having towels changed daily and bedding almost as frequently was a great plus with my wife. The staff were always on hand to help, and nothing was too much trouble for them. The restaurant was bright and airy and there was plenty of space btn tables. the self service breakfast was continually replenished and the evening meals always had plenty of choice for my wife who is a coeliac. Our only grouse was the mattress was very hard, but we accept this is a matter of choice and the hotel cant please all guests. This hotel certainly deserves its high trip advisor rating

« Nine stays at the same place should tell you all that you need to know. »

Where do I begin? My La Solara experience started back in 2003, when my wife, myself and our 16 month old daughter dipped our toes in Italian waters for the first time by selecting this (my wife's choice, not mine) for a spring break. I recall my groan as after a coach transfer we were confronted by a steep slope up to the hotel. I need not have worried however as a then younger Massimo took our cases, put them in an electric trolly and they were swifted away, leaving us with a short walk to our destination. We fell in love with the place there and then but it's not just the hotel, it is of course spotlessly clean from top to toe, there's never anything out of place and the rooms are comfortable but what makes this place however are the staff. I'd love to mention each and everyone we've encountered over the years but the list is long. However, from management down you will not find a better set of people anywhere else and I count myself lucky to have them all as close friends. I cannot wait to visit this jewel for the 10th time and reacquaint myself with its charm, views, wonderful food and the best set of staff it has been my pleasure to encounter. I've read reviews from some who've complained about the road outside, the traffic on it, the fact that a 10 minute bus ride is necessary should you wish to visit Sorrento, if that's all you can find to moan about then you need to readdress your life. Just embrace the hotel, it's surroundings and wonderful staff. We do and that's why we keep returning.

    « Fantastic Time »

Right from the very start when we arrived at 10pm to find plates of locally produced food waiting for us, to the end of our 7 day stay we were completely looked after by the Hotel and it's wonderful staff. Nothing is too much trouble for them, they go the extra mile time and again. The Hotel is ten minutes by free shuttle bus to the centre of Sorrento (10 out of ten for the bus and its driver) we preferred to be able to get away from the hussle and bussel of the town. The pool is large with plenty of space as the hotel only has 58 rooms. Evening meals are waiter service same for Sunday's gala dinner, all of this is a real treat with the food being excellent. Room spacious and very clean with a sea view. We met lovely people and had a real fun time with them, we cannot find fault with anything and wish all of our holidays could match this one. We will definitely return and can now understand why there are such rave reviews on Tripadvisor THANKYOU

« Excellent base for exploring the Sorrentine peninsula on foot »

It may not be the prettiest hotel, but the wonderful staff keep La Solara spotlessly clean and truly look after their guests. The meals were much better than we expected, with a good choice for each of the three dinner courses plus a tasty salad bar every evening for an additional first course. Our room (316) was spacious, with a balcony overlooking the pool and a well appointed bathroom. The wi fi worked well for email and digital newspapers. We recommend the free Italian lessons (Tuesday and Thursday 3pm-4pm) with Salvatore in the airy and comfortable hotel lounge. Being a little way out of town meant that we weren't disturbed by traffic noise and we enjoyed walking down to the local beach for a swim at the end of the afternoon. When we asked at Reception about local walks they supplied us with the Sorrento Country Walks map and we enjoyed exploring the olive groves and lemon farms on foot away from crowds and traffic. Sturdy footwear is recommended and, since the terrain is extremely up and down, the cooler September temperatures were ideal.

    « Superb hotel »

Just returned from a week at the La Solara and can thoroughly recommend the whole experience.Excellent helpful staff in all departments, free shuttle bus hourly to Sorrento (2 miles),food on half board basis couldn't be faulted, buffet breakfast and varied nightly menu all cooked to perfection and served very professionally. We upgraded to a sea view room which was well worth it for a fantastic view over blue blue Med. A great break at a great resort.

    « Comforting »

Clearly attempting to inform potential travellers about 'La Solara' and highlighting all the positives is a difficult task particularly when so much has been written before. However I will add my perspective based on personal experience. It is situated 3klm form Sorrento Centre, therefore away from the hustle and bustle in a quiet little spot and the centre can easily be reached by the hotels courtesy bus. It is not swanky or modern but rather has an old world charm, comfortable and safe, reassurance for those guests who want this more than all the 'bells and whistles' that others may offer. Is it not comforting to know that at any time of day you can wander to the pool and find numerous sun beds and the big decision is where to sit!. People choose hotels for many different reasons, surroundings, the views, quality of the food (and La Solara has these) but what makes this Hotel different is without doubt the staff, helpful, attentive and with a genuine caring attitude. Guests return year after year and to many it's like having an extended family and the staff always provide a warm welcome 'new or old. Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast is a beautiful part of Italy, with so much to see and do, which is why so many people return year after year. Surely sitting in Tasso Plaza with a glass of wine watching the world go by is a pleasant experience. How would I sum up La Solara, well it's like an old pair of slippers, safe, warm and comforting, with good food, lovely views and really nice people who look after you. Would I go back..............I've just booked! K.Tabram

« Great little hotel with a friendly family feel »

Nice friendly hotel. Many of the guests had visited many times over the years and were welcomed back like old friends. Excellent food, with great quality and variety. Lovely, clean swimming pool and fantastic views. Only problem with our visit, was the very hard and uncomfortable beds.

« Best Western - When Best is Best »

Wow, what a brilliant week. I have stayed in many hotels over the years, but ALL the staff in this hotel have an attention to detail and respect for the customer that goes the extra mile. Just ask and nothing is too much. The food is fabulous, don't bother eating out at all. The evening meal was seriously good and made for the highlight of each day and the Gala Meal was simply perfect. This is an excellent hotel, run very professionally and it's clear that all the staff are well trained, are clear about their role and what is expected of them and the result is perfection. Our stay was excellent and it was a real pleasure to stay at Hotel La Solara.

« Holiday for one week at La Solara »

A fabulous traditional hotel which is a five minute drive from the centre of Sorrento on the courtesy bus provided. A warm welcome awaits with a glass of champagne to kick start your holiday. The hotel is spotless and the staff are very warm and friendly helping you to feel at home. The swimming pool and sunbathing area is fab with unspoilt views! It is understandable why so many guests are repeat visitors. I hope to return some day! Thanks again for the hospitality and a wonderful bonus to be staying in a sea view room! A very special holiday ??

« So good we returned 2 years later. »

When we decided to return to Sorrento we knew that we wanted to stay in the same hotel we had last time. We were again treated so very well by the staff. Nothing was too much work for them to do to make our stay memorable once again. We appreciated Massimo, at the front desk so very much for all his help. While the hotel isn't in the centre of the Old Town, the shuttle service is good. Staying in this location is nice and quiet. The breakfast buffet has a wonderful selection of foods and drink and the staff there making an effort for all the guests to feel welcomed.

    « Truly amazing »

Wow! What an amazing hotel. We immediately felt welcomed when our luggage was taken care of and brought up the steep hill for us; and we also received a welcome drink of champagne before we checked in. The rooms were basic, but very clean and had everything we needed for the duration of our stay. The waiter service for the 3 course evening meal was a lovely surprise and the food was all delicious! The staff all work so hard and are very approachable, they strive to ensure you have a wonderful time and absolutely nothing is too much trouble! I will be recommending this hotel with no hesitation to others! Keep up the good work! The one thing I will say, but of course is only a minor issue is that the wifi in the bedrooms isn't the best.

« Another happy and successful trip »

We stayed here October 2015 and it was so good we went back this September 2016. The hotel is so clean it is better than most hospitals, I have never stayed in a hotel as clean as this. The staff just cannot do enough for you and always with a smile. I am sorry if people do not like this hotel but I really cannot understand some of the negative comments. If you have a problem you just have to tell the desk and they try their very hardest to sort it out. The pool is excellent with a fabulous snack bar, the food is amazing and if you leave the dining room hungry then you really are being very picky it truly is restaurant standard with a brilliant salad bar and the gala nights are superb. In my opinion this is a four star hotel masquerading as a five star the staff are fantastic and Marcello runs a fabulous restaurant. As I said earlier we have stayed here before and we will be back for that I am sure. Do not be put of by the fact that the hotel is not in the centre of the town, the free shuttle bus is every hour though out the day and you can set your watch by it. If you are looking for relaxation and a truly memorable holiday then you cannot go far wrong with this hotel.

« Pleasant - but not central Sorrento »

My sister and I visited this hotel recently and overall impression was that it was ?pleasant'. We arrived late on a Monday night (around 11.30pm) and we were greeted by the lovely Antonio. We were quite hungry at this point and he informed us that the kitchen closes at 9pm and so we couldn't get anything to eat. But he still checked with the kitchen staff and said they could whip us some sandwiches. We said no in the end because my sister is gluten intolerant (abbreviation: ?GI?) and she didn't fancy GF bread and as we were quite tired anyway, we decided to go to bed. The room itself was not what I am normally used to? I normally choose hotels that are quite modern looking/contemporary and the décor was not exactly my style, but we quickly got used to it. We thought as we were in Sorrento, it just wouldn't feel right if we didn't have an ?Italian? feel to the room. The tub in the bathroom was quite small and whilst showering I kept hitting the screen and the shower head/taps which was a little annoying but hey ho, not a big deal. The TV in our room had only 2/3 English channels which actually became our saviour for one of the days because my sister was not well so we ended up staying in our room for the whole day. On the first night, I was awoken at 3am because I could hear the couple upstairs arguing and throwing things around in their room!!! Obviously this is not a reflection on the hotel but made me think gosh these walls are super thin! I managed to go back to sleep amidst the arguing (luckily I could not understand what they were saying!) and then was awoken at 9am by the maid. Our room was situated right next to the store room on our floor so each morning we were awoken by the store room opening and closing and sometimes the hoovering! Slightly annoying but we thought never mind. On the first morning we were there, we went downstairs for the free breakfast that the hotel offers. Before I talk about the breakfast itself, I think I should add here... and this is not by any means a bad thing, just an observation I made. Me and my sister seemed to be one of the few young people staying in this hotel (we are in our early 30s) and I think we sort of stuck out a little bit. It seemed to me that most people in the hotel were much older (ages 50+) ? and everyone seemed to know someone there! Reading the other tripadvisor reviews, it seems that there are a lot of returning guests?so I am sure people have made friends here which is actually quite sweet. Again, this is not a bad thing, it's simply an observation I made. So, the actual breakfast? there were teas, coffees, juices, yoghurts, pastries, toast, eggs (only scrambled however), a meat dish too (different each morning), fruit. As my sister is GI, the staff did give her GF toast which was nice of them. The staff at breakfast were always very chirpy and friendly. My only suggestions to improve the breakfast would be to include an omelette station (some of us don't like watery scrambled eggs) and extending the breakfast time - it would end at 10am which was a little frustrating especially if you wanted a little lie in and get ready before coming downstairs. The hotel has a very reliable and free shuttle bus service into the centre of Sorrento which ran hourly. The last bus to come back to the hotel from the centre was 11.15pm. One bit of advice here? try to use the bus when coming back. We took a taxi once from the centre back to the hotel and we were charged 25 Euros for a 5 minute drive! All in all, it's a nice hotel and staff are super helpful. I think for us personally, it was a little too far from the centre of Sorrento for our liking because we relied heavily on the shuttle bus. I felt like we were constantly looking at the time to ensure we didn't miss the last bus, especially if we were in the centre of Sorrento having dinner.

    « Bright, clean, comfortable »

This hotel is a pleasant respite from the busy activity down the hill in Sorrento. It's worth the shuttle ride to be in a quiet spot up in the green hills. We were delighted by the attentive service provided, especially grateful to Giovanni, Antonio and Massimo. Our balcony was a little outdoor restaurant where we could enjoy the wine and treats found in the town. The breakfast provided was first rate and the dinner menu and service top notch too.

« A wonderful time had by all »

This was our first holiday in Italy and stay at la solara but it will not be our last. From the moment we stepped through the entrance doors to the hotel we knew we had made the right choice as we were greeted with a warm welcome and a nice ice cold glass of prosecco and a glass of fruit juice for our 9 year old daughter, which was very welcoming. As we were also celebrating our anniversary during our stay we had a lovely surprise of a chilled bottle of prosecco and a bowl of fruit in our room a very nice thought from the management. We were blown away at every element of our stay at la solara from the warmth, helpfulness and professional attitude of all the staff to the wonderful and plentiful food served in the restaurant and by the the pool at lunchtime. The whole hotel is spotlessly clean which is a credit to the cleaning team. The pool area is great, our daughter loved it, we never had a problem in finding 3 sun beds together if we did Antonio was always there to lend a hand ( a big thank you to him). The alfresco gala dinner was a wonderful experience it also gives you the opportunity to thank the chefs for their hard work in preparing the lovely food. Every member of staff too many to name individually went out of their way to make our holiday such a memorable one, we are already talking about returning to ltaly and la solara in 2018 we all can't wait to return. Sending a big thank you to everyone at la solara for making our first visit to ltaly such a unforgettable one. From the Coleman family

    « Super Hotel! »

Just got back from our second visit to this hotel. We have never returned to any hotel before so did have slight reservations as we had such a wonderful holiday last time. We shouldn't have been concerned, the food is restaurant quality, the rooms, restaurant, bar & pool are spotless. The staff just great. There are far more expensive hotels is Sorrento & they are good but the La Solara is better. The size of hotel is just right. The location is out of town by 3km but the hotels mini bus is reliable and free. One point about Sorrento itself is that the traffic does seem to be heaver than when we last came 3 years ago, not much the hotel can do about that but it wouldn't put us off from coming back.

« Fabulous Hotel. Good for Coeliacs »

We have just come back from a fabulous holiday at La Solara, a wonderful hotel, and particularly good for those who are Coeliac. We received really good and friendly service, including a meal at 1 am when we arrived following a late flight. My wife has to have gluten free meals and providing these was absolutely no trouble at all. The food in general was excellent and varied, with good choices for all meals. It was a pleasure to eat there. All the staff - reception, restaurant and house keeping were friendly and helpful, and it is worth remarking that all rooms and facilities were immaculate. The shuttle bus into Sorrento ran hourly, and we were dropped and picked up close to the town centre. The journy takes a few mimutes. La Solara is a hotel which exceeded our expectations, and we will certainly stay there again. Well done!

« Good Hotel but not in Center of Sorrento »

We arrived late at night and were offered a cold meal which was thoughtful of the hotel . Our room was overlooking the swimming pool and was a generous size with a lengthy balcony. The room decor felt a bit old fashioned but we quickly got used to it. Generally the hotel and room were kept very clean. We heard the toilet flushing loudly from the room next door especially in the mornings and at night and was a bit annoying. There is a free shuttle bus which runs from the hotel every hour until 11 pm and leaves Sorrento to come back to the hotel quarter past every hour until 11.15 pm. The shuttle bus came in very handy for trips back and forth to Sorrento and usually we timed it well after day trips to catch the bus back on time apart from one day when we came back from a day trip to Vesuvius and missed the shuttle by 5 minutes and had to wait an hour for the next one. Make sure you're at the stop for 10 mins past the hour because the driver is sometimes a few minutes early and doesn't hang around. Breakfast is buffet style with the same variety every morning. After a couple of days we were bored and it would have been nice to have an omelette station and a few changes of food each morning. Breakfast ends at 10 am which like most places is not ideal if you wish to have a longer sleep in the morning. Dinner is waiter service and the service was absolutely excellent. Each night has a different set menu with choices for starters, mains and dessert. There is nearly always a fish dish available every night. What we loved about dinner was the service and the flexibility where if nothing on the menu was to your liking they would make you something that you liked. The food was always delicious and well presented The only negative comment about dinner would be the ambient lighting was too bright and the setting too much like a school dinner room. I think soft lighting ( candles etc ) would make the dinning experience a bit more romantic On a Sunday night they have a gala dinner by the pool with live music. This is the only night full length trousers are required. Dinner starts at 6.45 pm and ends at 9.30 pm. You could have early dinner around 7pm and then take the shuttle into Sorrento for a few drinks and to sample the nightlife and get the 11.15 pm shuttle back. Unfortunately we never managed to do this as we always arrived for dinner later and didn't finish until around 10 pm. There is not much at the hotel in terms of entertainment after dinner apart from the in house musicians but they were not to my taste. To be honest there are no views from this hotel and even with sea view rooms you only see the horizon. You will NOT see the beautiful bay of Naples or Vesuvius from this hotel. The road leading up to the hotel from Sorrento is twisty, narrow and uphill with no pavement and with lots of traffic so not safe or ideal for walking. In conclusion this is a nice hotel with great service but a bit isolated. If I was going back to Sorrento I would pick one of the hotels further down the road overlooking Sorrento and the bay and with views of Vesuvius in the distance. The view really is amazing but not from La Solara.

    « Fantastic! »

We came here for a family holiday in August. Right from the moment we stepped into the hotel the staff were very keen to attend to our needs. We arrived late because of a traffic hold up. The restaurant ensured we had a meal waiting for us and took our cases up to our rooms. All the staff were all hard working, polite and efficient. They were on hand to give us advice when we asked for it. I can honestly say that we cannot fault it in any way and it exceeded o

« Best Hotel in Sorrento »

This was our 4th time at the hotel which speaks volumes about the hotel and the staff. From the moment we set foot through the hotel door we were welcomed and made to feel at home rather than just guests. There were many couples and families who had returned again and again to the hotel and we were fortunate enough to meet up with friends from a previous visit. The hotel is spotlessly clean inside and out, from the reception area to the pool. The location of the hotel is situated just outside Sorrento in a quiet area with beautiful views setup off the road. These views can be enjoyed from the pool, restaurant and rooms with a sea view. We would much prefer this than staying in the centre of Sorrento which is very busy and noisy. However, it is always nice to take the hotel courtesy bus into the town and enjoy the atmosphere. Sorrento is a beautiful place and central for visits to Capri, Ischia, the Amalfi Coast, Vesuvius and Pompeii. Our stay at La Solara was on a half board basis with breakfast setting you up for the day and an outstanding Italian evening meal. If you do find yourself wanting lunch then the hotel offers a lovely meal in the poolside restaurant. I must say ALL THE STAFF make this an amazing hotel, they are very special people who made my daughter's 21st birthday special. Thank you! We will be back....again.

« first visit to italy »

We had high expectations given the reviews and we where not disappointed our whole experience of the hotel could not have been any better lovely room but would update next time to a sea view with terrace. The quality of the food and service I could not fault and nothing was to much trouble we are booking for next year but this time for 2 weeks to enjoy more of Sorrento.

    « La Solara »

Lovely family hotel with friendly , genuine , attentive staff - 'old fashioned ' in the best sense , as they had pride in their profession and happy to assist you . Room was clean with comfortable bed and excellent view towards Capri .I would have appreciated if the room was slightly larger and our sun terrace , which was nearly as big as the room slightly smaller but this is a personal observation . It is easy to see why there is a large number of repeat guests but the hotel is for families looking for tranquility and mature clientele that enjoy a holiday at a quite , calm pace and require a good base to explore the area for themselves. The half board package is worth it as food varied , excellent and plentiful . It is nice to be served by well mannered , well trained staff . I think it fair to say that such a gem is now in need of a little TLC in the very near future to keep pace as a little tired and worth the effort ,as their is immense potential and given the cost of staying here in high season would benefit to ensure it maintains its 4 stars . The Shuttle bus is very much a plus as taxi's are expensive , however I am sure guests would welcome if the service could be increased to a twice hourly service . An onsite spa / beauty area would compliment the nice gym also. As an asthmatic I was shocked to see that there was the choice of a step walk up to front of hotel or a flight of steps . If you have walking difficulties you need to have a taxi from airport which will take you to the door . Once at the hotel there is a lift to the rooms and staff are helpful . It is worth knowing that there are stairs down to the restaurant , so clients with walking difficulties need to check depending on level of their mobility . The above are just observations that travel agents need to point out. La Solara deserves the nice reviews it receives but this is mostly down to its staff , as they are at its heart .

    « Simply the Best »

Visited this hotel to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday. We have been to several hotels in the Sorrento area but this is by far the best. The hotel is spotlessly clean and our thanks to all the staff, reception, waiters, bar staff, shuttle bus driver, pool attendants, cleaners, maids etc for a wonderful holiday. The hotel continually gave that little extra which means so much. The hourly shuttle bus service was the best we have encountered. The food and wine which was reasonably priced were always of excellent quality as was the entertainment. We are looking forward to revisiting in the not-too-distant future. Best wishes.

« Another summer, another booking! »

As I write this review, England's 'Indian summer' is coming to an abrupt end, as is often the way, with thunderstorms, torrential rain & flooding! So naturally, thoughts turn to next summer, which, for us means booking our annual trip to La Solara! Our summer would just not be complete without an escape to this little bit of paradise in the Italian sun! I've lost count of the number of visits we have made - first as a young couple 25 years ago, then with our children in tow - as babies, toddlers, school age children, young teenagers & now with the eldest working & the youngest starting A levels. We have met people here who have become firm friends outside of the world of holidays & La Solara. This shared experience brings another dimension to the relationship. So we also return to a place that for us holds so many of our most precious memories. This time we met a couple visiting for the first time with their toddler. As I watched her play in the bath warm temperature of the 'baby pool'! I felt a pang in my heart as I was immediately transported back to the time when our own daughter was that age playing in the bath warm temperature of the 'baby pool' .... ! However, all that being said there are other benefits to our children growing up. The very regular (much more so than other local hotels) shuttle bus to Sorrento is brilliant for providing them with independence. They can visit the town alone & enjoy the evening activies whilst, once again, after so many 'full on' parenting years, we can enjoy some much appreciated 'alone time' - safe in the knowledge they are secure in a family orientated community which sometimes feels frozen in time. The circle of life continues! We've reached a time when our children are beginning to strike out with their own holidays. So with increasingly individual busy lives we all feel its even more important than ever that we re-connect annually @ La Solara. As my daughter says 'its hard as you automatically compare other hotels to La Solara. My friends don't really understand but then they havent been to La Solara. Other hotels may have their own merits but never the whole package - we've been so spoilt!' Family life, especially where we live just outside of London, sometimes feels like being aboard a fast moving ship, tossed around along the way by unexpectated waves. The only constant is our annual arrival at the calm & tranquil waters of La Solara where the stresses of the year really do seem to melt away. Whilst we are always really sad to leave people, whom we now consider part of our extended family, we return to our 'normal' life, refreshed & with batteries recharged ready to face whatever challenges the year ahead sees fit to throw our way So where is the standard hotel 'review' you may ask? The fact is I've written many before (as have so many others) extolling the hotel's virtues ... staff, service, food, pool, cleanliness. And to clarify standards are as excellent as ever. However, this time I thought I would attempt to describe that other, less tangible 'je ne sais quoi' (or as the Italians say 'non so che) that has people returning here time & again. In reality you just have to experience it for yourself. I guess, simply put, it can only be described as "magic'! Finally, I just want to reiterate our thanks to all the wonderful staff for ensuring we had yet another fabulous & memorable holiday. Special mention this year to Frederico one of the younger members of the team who has really upped his game. His father Raphael (the previous Maitre D of the hotel) must be so proud of him. Importantly its young people like him who carry the future of this hotel's continued success. Also SO glad to see the weekly 'Gala Dinner' restored to its rightful place poolside! Grazie mille e amore a tutti Stiamo già guardando avanti per rivedervi il prossimo anno xxxx

    « An outstanding hotel »

The high standards of this hotel never varied throughout our 10 day stay. Staff, food organisation were all of the highest standard, from the moment we were met at the door with a glass of ice cold prossecco, until the day we left when the manager helped us to weigh our cases there was no detail left to chance. We would recommend this hotel to everyone.

« Perfect hotel for a visit to Sorrento »

There isn't anything bad that can be said about this hotel. The reviews seem too good to be true, but they are absolutely true! My wife is disabled and we needed a hotel room with a separate shower. La Solara hotel accommodated us perfectly in a spotlessly clean and well maintained room with a balcony overlooking the pool. The food was great, and the prices of food and drink are comparable with anything you get in Sorrento town. The pool area was well maintained, and plenty of well maintained sunbeds were available for people to use. The shuttle bus service is fantastic and very reliable. It's the staff though. Every single member of staff we met was friendly, attentive, and couldn't do enough for you. If we return to Sorrento, this is where we will be staying. Thank you for a great stay!!!!

« Still as good as always! »

Returned home last Monday, everything absolutely lovely. Great food, coeliac diet never a problem, staff always helpful (all have worked there for years), and, spotless. This was our 3rd visit and won't be our last. Thanks for another good holiday.

Just returned from our holiday at the amazing La Solara and will be booking again for next year , this was our 4th year running and as usual everything was just perfect . All the staff every single member are so friendly and dedicated to making sure you have a wonderful holiday nothing is too much trouble to them .The hotel is spottlessly clean and the food is fantastic .The pool is also spottlessly clean and there are always sunbeds and pool towels avaliable. The shuttle bus runs regularly if you want to leave the peace of La solara and go into the center of sorrento or do some site seeing . Cant praise this hotel and its staff enough it is just perfect .

« Spotless with great service »

Stayed at this hotel end of August for a week. Was very impressed with the excellent service. The staff were wonderful. We paid extra for a terrace (the balcony was almost as big). We had a corner room, 410 so had the sun from 7am to 8pm. It overlooked the pool and also the sea. Would book this room again. A great selection of food available. They catered for me being a vegetarian, was able to have something different every evening. The Sunday gala evening around the pool was lovely.

Just returned from a superb week,in La Solara Hotel, Sorrento. Beautiful food, spotless hotel, and a wonderful attentive team that made our stay so much more relaxing. Hotel is about a 5 min shuttle bus ( which runs hourly, complementary, and always reliable )from the hub, you could walk, but about 3km,and no pavement on the twisty steep roads, but we found the location spot on,as it was quiet and great to escape back to, to relax and cool in the pool, on an afternoon . If you needed anything, that hadn't already been noticed, by the staff, then you just ask, nothing was too much trouble. Sunbeds and towels are placed out for you,and as it's a small hotel they are always available. There were many returning guests there, and many had already booked for next year,so that speaks for itself. There are so many places to visit, and beautiful scenery, that we will be visiting again and would definitely stay at La Solara.

    « Fabulous »

The Solara really is as good as the reviews suggest. The best thing about the hotel is the staff who are incredibly attentive, sincere and really good fun. They simply cannot do enough for you, from their help in booking trips, changing dinner options or just making you a special cocktail. The restaurant is amazing in the evening and the spectacular views over Capri. The decor is a little gaudy, and maybe not the most modern, but that is irrelevant when you see how at home you feel, and what a lovely and relaxing holiday you will have. Highly recommended.

    « Perfetto! »

We stayed at La Solara first two weeks of August. We had a perfect holiday. I first contacted hotel before booking about having adjacent rooms. The replies were prompt and polite and importantly the rooms were exactly as promised. The staff really seem proud and happy to work there and nothing is too much trouble. Marcelo made sure that my daughter's needs were catered for at the Gala dinner with no problem at all. Angelo and Guiseppe were great bar men but everyone was so good. The sun beds are brilliant. Parasol for every two beds. Each bed has its own visor type attachment. No need to get up early as no beds were reserved. Beds were available all times of the day and if it was busy Antonio made sure he found you somewhere. Amazing views from sun terrace and great to watch the crazy drivers on the road below. Food was lovely. Lunch by the pool was good and portions huge. Evening meal was four course. We even looked forward to the salad bar! Plenty of choice. We stayed half board. Hotel was happy to swap evening meal for lunch if you told them day before. The location is great with the totally reliable shuttle bus. Out of the heat, hustle and bustle of Sorrento but easy accessible. We travelled with our two teenage daughters and everyone of us enjoyed the holiday and the hotel. We all want to go back to Sorrento and La Solara.

« the best hotel I have ever visited »

This hotel is truly special from its location to its staff to the wonderful pool and the quality of the food. I can honestly say that we found the hotel to be faultless. We were warmly welcomed on arrival and were helpfully assisted by the friendly staff throughout our holiday ( especially when I phoned them from Pompeii panicking that I had lost my purse and they found out who our driver had been and phoned the company to ask if they could check the car for me- the purse was safely found and returned). On my birthday the hotel gave me a lovely cake and bottle of Prosecco and the gala dinner on our last night was great fun. There were always plentiful loungers available at the pool and the huge pool allowed for both swimming and playing. A huge thank you to the staff for making our stay so wonderful- we can't wait to come back.

« Friendly, attentive and professional service »

The quality of service and friendly staff make this a wonderful place to stay. The staff will ensure you will not miss out at meal times, for young with limited dietary needs, broad vegetarian choice, quality of food is fantastic. Rooms clean and tidy with all facilities including family rooms. Reception are knowledgeable and will endeavour to help advise on your day. Pool large, clean and with ample sun beds, patio and friendly bar staff/ waiters. Sunsets over Ischia are thrown in for free :) ! 12minute ride on hourly shuttle bus to Sorrento for the train, ferries and coaches to Capri, Amalfi coast, Ischia, Naples, Pompeii. Great hotel for adults and kids to share.

    « Wonderful hotel! »

This was our first visit to La Solara and it was a treat. We had a room with a sea view (214) and there was plenty of space in the room (for two adults and two children in bunks). The staff spend their entire time taking care of all your needs and nothing is too much trouble. The friendliness shines through from Fabio on the front desk, to the waiters in the restaurant and the cleaning staff. The food was superb (too nice in fact and we ended up eating more than we should) and the gala dinner was a real treat eating al fresco around the pool with a lovely atmosphere and great food. There was plenty of choice in the breakfast buffet (my daughter loved eating a plate of cakes for breakfast!), and the evening meal offered a buffet salad followed by three courses with several choices for each; every meal was of a high standard befitting a four star hotel. The pool was large and well attended by very helpful staff. There was an area around the pool and a separate area for sunbeds on a slightly raised level. There was never trouble finding space and if you wanted sunbeds Antonio would locate enough and put them in place for you. There was a pool bar and covered eating area with waiter service. The pool was a real highlight and made for wonderful "down" time for all the family having fun in the water or doing lengths. The hotel is located in the hills just outside of the town, but there is a free shuttle bus that runs every hour and drops in the centre of Sorrento. As it picks up punctually, it made for very simple planning. This was our first visit to La Solara but I doubt it will be our last!

    « Average »

We arrived at the hotel after a nerve-wrecking 2-hour car drive from Castellammare di Stabia. While the location appears to be good on the map, it is in fact difficult to get from here to other places (like Vesuvius, Pompeii, ...) due to the frequent traffic jams between Sorrento and Autostrada A3. Due to the traffic situation we did not try the beach (Marina di Puolo) as planned, but instead we left early the next morning to minimize the time we need to get through the chokepoints in Sorrento, Sant'Agnello, Meta and Seiano. The pool was spacious, nice and the pool area was well-kept. The staff was friendly and professional. The dinner and the breakfast were OK, though not impressive. I expected to have some more view over the Gulf of Naples, but you cannot see much of Capri or the Vesuvius from the hotel directly. Overall, we paid way too much for an average experience.

« Even better the second time around... »

Second time we`ve visited this hotel and the experience was even better than before. Service, quality, cleanliness and the friendliness of the staff are all first class. They work very very had at making your stay very easy. From check-in to check-out we had absolutely nothing to worry about, the biggest headache was deciding what to eat at night from a fabulous menu. The sunday night Gala Dinner, held by the pool, is something a bit special and really good fun. A special thanks to Nello in the restaurant and Angelo in the bar who we saw each day, also to the housekeeping staff who keep the rooms so tidy and spotlessly clean. This is a really really good hotel with great staff - i`m looking to return again already!

« Was dubious wondering if the reviews were too good to be true »

Just back from 2 weeks at la solara - and in my opinion to give this fabulous hotel less than 5 stars would be churlish. Yes it looks a little dated when you first approach it - but once inside you see that the hotel is spotless, well looked after and stuffed full of staff that genuinely seem to care about their hotel. We stayed with our 11 year old son in room 106 - which was just about perfect for our needs. The location is just out of sorrento - but there is a free hourly courtesy bus into town which we used on each day except one of our 14 days. The attention to detail is superb - no fight for a sun bed - no need to get up early to reserve one etc - the whole place oozes relaxation and I can 100% see why people go back time after time - I am sure this won't be our last visit either.

    « Relaxing Week »

La Solara is a traditional Italian hotel and on the outskirts of Sorrento provides a perfect base for both exploring the town and the amazing surrounding areas. The courtesy bus up and down to town every hour is so convenient and efficient - driven expertly I might add through some very tight spots!! The hotel staff are all pleasant and extremely helpful - we were greeted on arrival VERY late by Salvatore who gave us a very warm welcome and showed us to our room. The room had everything you could need and we were especially pleased to find fly blinds over the patio door which meant that several nights we were able to enjoy sleeping with the doors open without fear of mosquitos coming in! The room and indeed the whole hotel were always kept clean - pool area was just beautiful both with the views and the size of the pool - lots of lengths done to compensate for all the wonderful food we ate . We loved the local Aglianico red wine at dinner too - very reasonable and delicious . Great service by all staff in the restaurant too. Never a scramble for sun beds either - another bonus - thanks to Antonio who seemed to be aware of everything going on. On departure late in the day we were given use of a courtesy room to wash and change - another bonus . Thanks you to all at La Solara and would hope to return one day.

    « Fab hotel »

La solara is a lovely, friendly and we'll run hotel. The staff on the main desk have a professional manner and sort any issues out promptly. The hotel is spotless throughout with the daily house keeping being thorough which meant that we enjoyed returning to our room after a tiring day out. The pool area is fantastic, great sun loungers and towels available, we enjoyed lunch their too most days with polliere salad and carbonara being our favourite choice. The resturant is bright and spacious and managed by a very likeable bunch of characters, we enjoyed all our meals including the buffet salad in the evening and the doughnuts at breakfast. We were amazed at the hard and dedicated work of the staff and feel that beacuse of this the hotel was a pleasure to stay in, we would like to thank you all for making our first visit to Italy so memorable also a big thank you to the shuttle bus driver for getting us to and from Sorrento safely. Go for a sea view room for best views. looking forward to our 2nd visit hopefully 2017. Best wishes Caroline The Yelland family

Superb hotel, very clean & comfortable. The staff are all so helpful & friendly. The pool was a good size & kept very clean. There were always enough sunbeds around the pool & patio area. The waiters provided an excellent service in the restaurant & we enjoyed the food every evening, including the Sunday night Gala Dinner. The hourly courtesy bus into Sorrento town was an essential service & very punctual. This was a great choice for a relaxing holiday. Thank you La Solara!

    « Excellent Hotel. »

This is an excellent hotel that we stayed in on our first visit to Italy. Rooms are spotless and are cleaned daily with a balcony. All areas of the hotel are spotless and great views to be had from the dining room and rooftop pool. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful whether you need anything at hotel or how to visit anything in the area. The hotel bus into town is efficient and convenient to save your legs especially in the heat. There was never an issue wanting a sun bed by the pool as this was attended and the staff found you sun beds - none of this put your towels down in the morning for all day even though people had gone out and just left them there. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and intend to return and would highly recommend this to anyone and we travelled with our adult children who also enjoyed the hotel. Fantastic.

    « Fantastic hotel »

We recently spent two very enjoyable weeks at la Solara ,we found all the staff very friendly and helpful . The room was spotless with excellent service daily . The location just outside of Sorrento was no problem at all as the hotel run a free bus service hourly to and from the town .The food was delicious with varying choises including local dishes. The view from the resteraunt was simply amazing with stunning sunsets . All in all a wonderful hotel and a fantastic holiday and we are looking to book again next year

    « A room with a view »

A fantastic hotel, with welcoming staff. A real family feel to the hotel, the rooms are spotless and nothing is too much trouble. If you can book a room with sea view and terrace the sunsets and extra space with sun loungers make it really special. There are plenty is sun beds and a fab large pool. The Gala dinner is a real special event. Having a kettle in your room makes a lovely touch too. What a fab hotel, wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, you are away from the hustle of Sorrento but the shuttle bus makes shopping and sightseeing easy. Thank you and hope to come back soon

« Lovely Hotel, wonderful staff. »

We stayed at this hotel the second week in August. We had a family room at the front of the hotel with a sea view. The decor of the hotel is classic Italian and immaculate. The room was comfortable and clean and we really appreciated the little touches like the complimentary bottle of olive oil and the chocolates left each day. Sun beds were never an issue around the pool. On busy days extra beds were made available. The pool was large and clean. The pool bar provides great service and a good selection of food. The main restaurant was so good that we ate there every night. Our youngest daughter has a nut allergy. The restaurant staff went to every length to ensure this was never an issue, even to the point of providing a separate dessert for her. This attitude is typical throughout the hotel with the wonderful, friendly staff who are always willing to help. The shuttle bus provided by the hotel is fantastic and meant we went into Sorrento many times. Overall would highly recommend this lovely hotel.

Good hotel with great views - liked that it is set back from the busy road unlike a lot of Sorrento hotels. Lovely room with sea view and terrace was well worth the extra price Reliable free shuttle bus is very welcome as road far too dangerous for walking along. Be aware - zebra crossings are just graffiti on the road! Good food and friendly staff. On arrival given glass of champagne and gift of olive oil waiting in room. On departure a trip advisor bag and letter hoping we would write a review?!

« Another fabulous stay at La Solara »

This was our 7th visit and was just as special as the first. We stayed for two weeks and could have stayed longer! The hotel is kept spotless throughout, the rooms are comfortable and cleaned daily with evening turn down service and a special chocolate treat. All rooms have their own tea tray, refilled daily and cups changed. Toiletries are replenished, towels are changed daily and the air con is very efficient. There are chairs and sunbeds on the balconies. Service in the dinning room is efficient and friendly, the food is of a high standard and would rival most restaurants. There are fantastic views of the sun setting and views of Ischia. Breakfast is a plentiful buffet ranging from continental style to hot foods. Lots of choice, all delicious. The evening meal is cooked fresh from a good choice of starters, mains and desserts, not forgetting the fantastic salad buffet. Sundays gala dinner, around the pool in summer, is a spectacular feast and a chance to celebrate the hard work of the chefs. There is live music three times a week in the hotel, if this is not to your taste the shuttle bus runs into town every hour where there is plenty to entertain you. The pool area is spotless and sunbeds are always available, no need to reserve with towels Antonio is like a magician the way he conjures up sunbeds! Snacks from the pool snack bar are enormous and best shared! All the staff are hard working, pleasant, helpful and will do anything they can to make your stay comfortable and special. Across from the hotel down the hill is Marina Di Puolo in the summer it is busy with local Italian families. You can hire sunbeds, pedalos and boats. There are a few restaurants and cafes. In Sorrento there is probably everything you could ever need. It is a nice walk down from the hotel to Sorrento as you get the lovely views of Marina Grande and Marina Piccalo. However if you don't fancy the walk the shuttle bus runs like clockwork. If you like exploring the area then you won't be disappointed, Pompei, Herculanium, Capri, Positano,Amalfi, are all easy to access without paying the high costs of excursions. We will no doubt return soon.

« Second time even better! »

We stayed at La Solara 2 years ago, and loved both the hotel and the experience. We came back this year at short notice to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary. The hotel is as lovely as it was the first time we came here, and has made small but important improvements. First there are now hot drink making facilities in the rooms. I wouldn't swap this for the lovely hot drinks, almond biscuits and chocolate you get by ordering drinks at the pool or bar, but it is nice to have a drink when you want one, especially if like me you have to take medication first thing. The hotel rooms are replete with really nice shampoos, shower gel, body lotion and so on - always topped up by a brilliant maid. The dining room has been redecorated and is charming. The food is very good, both at the pool and the dining room. Do stay for the Gala night on a Sunday. The food and service is wonderful, very romantic served by the pool by candlelight, with a super pianist and singer, and dancing after dinner (no compulsion!). The best way to describe La Solara is happy! The staff are terrific, friendly, provide brilliant service, prompt, courteous, and they all seem to enjoy their work and go the extra mile. This makes the atmosphere really light and fun. People love the pool area, really enjoy themselves while still allowing those less energetic to relax in the shade. It is a lovely family hotel, as well as being great for couples. The courtesy bus in and out of Sorrento is reliable, 11:15pm for the last return trip. The three tenors at the museum in Sorrento is well worth going to: a bit magical, in beautiful surroundings, with a glass of prosecco to set the mood. Wonderful singing and just enough of the best operatic arias for those who aren't opera buffs! However crowded it is, it is still worth doing the Amalfi drive, Ravello and Positano drive. Like the three tenors this is so easy to arrange through hotel reception, and using a small mini bus is much nicer than a large coach, which can't get down to Positano for example. Well worth also taking the boat trip as part of the tour. Regarding helpfulness, reception staff are terrific, and for example rang the museum to check that they had air conditioning when I asked about this. They like all the other staff seem to really want your holiday to be memorable for all the right reasons. The hotel and rooms are immaculate. We are very very pleased we made this second visit, and were in no way disappointed. This is a wonderful, colourful part of Italy, with skilled craftsmen in towns, great restaurants at good prices, and the icing on this lovely cake is the superb hotel at La Solara. Thanks to everyone there who made our holiday so special!

    « Lovely Hotel »

We stayed in this hotel at the beginning of August, we had two rooms 208 and 210 which had views of the pool area. The room and the rest of the hotel was spotlessly clean, the food was first class, the poolside area was well managed and there was always a spot to relax in. It is a great base to explore the area from or alternatively a lovely place to completely chill. The staff were all very friendly and this Hotel is really the complete package.

    « Sorrento's gem »

Wonderful hotel, great location, superb staff - special shout out to Massimo on the front desk, but everyone was wonderful. Great pool with a stunning view over the bay . As half board guests we were a little apprehensive when it came to our evening meals, we needn't have worried - every night the food was plentiful, excellent quality, wonderful variety and served by an attentive and friendly staff. Walking into Sorento with youngsters isn't really an option on the local roads but an hourly shuttle that runs like clockwork makes life very easy. Thanks for a wonderful holiday, highest reccomendation

    « Very Relaxing stay »

We visited La Solara hotel the first week of July 2016, Overall we had a very relaxing stay in Sorrento. The pool is large and there are ample loungers for all, the pool bar offered amazing lunches, massive portions and would definitely recommend the tuna salad! It was a favourite of ours! Although we like total relaxation, even we felt the evenings at the hotels were a little too laid back for us, but the shuttle bus service into the town in the evenings kept us busy! Great table tennis table and book exchange; Friendly service from staff, almost too attentive at points, but definitely with best interest at hearts! Had a great stay at La Solara, a credit to the staff!

Really friendly service. They have a shuttle that takes you right to the center which was very convenient. The pool can't be beat except by the most magnificent sunsets. Really great for kids they even have a kids pool. We had lunch one day by the pool and I thought I was in a 5 star restaurant. I love this hotel and recommend it to anyone.

    « A super experience - as expected !! »

5 stars for this hotel - First star * - LOCATION. This hotel is on the outskirts of Sorrento, up on the hillside overlooking the Bay of Naples. quiet, so is perfect for chilled out, peaceful holidays. Second star * - HOTEL FACILITIES. A small family run hotel with a relaxed atmosphere, comfortable and clean facilities, beautiful gardens and a great pool area with plenty of loungers, chairs and refreshments for everyone. Sea view rooms have terrace or balcony with seating. Free shuttle bus service too and from Sorrento town. Third star * - FOOD. Ample buffet breakfast with a wide selection of continental pastries, cereals, fruits, yogurts and toasted breads selection. Hot selection varied daily but usually, eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms etc. Fresh ground coffees, teas and chocolates, juices and milk. Super portioned lunches, served round pool or in dining room if inclement weather. Great waiter service dinners, good selection and choice of three courses with self- serve salad buffet. Good wine selection or soft drinks, beers also served. Fabulous Gala Dinner on a Sunday evening - era tutto squisito! Fourth Star *- STAFF. Cannot praise the staff at this hotel enough, from the cheerful porter who meets you when you arrive, to the Concierge and reception staff who will answer and help with ALL your questions, to the friendly and very efficient members of staff who make sure the whole establishment is looking slick and span ( including chocolates by the bedside). A special mention to the dining room staff, Marchello, Nello and all the other waiters whose charm, wit and friendliness are a great attribute to the hotel. Fifth Star * - QUALITY GUARANTEED. The majority of guests at La Solara are return visitors, who appreciate the atmosphere, service and beauty of Sorrento and the attention to detail offered at La Solara. BELLISSIMO !!!!!!!

    « Excellent hotel »

Lovely hotel that feels family run. Very friendly & professional staff who can't do enough to make you feel welcome. Superb food - consistently delicious and a good range of choice. Lovely pool area - never felt busy - big pool with enough room to swim properly. All beautifully kept. Same for interior. Immaculately clean. Free shuttle bus to & from Sorento on the hour - only 10 mins and nice views on the way. Liked being able to see Sorrento but also have peace, quiet & serenity of being just outside & surrounded in the green of lemon & olive groves. Beach a short walk away. Beautiful water worth a swim & cafes. Worth the walk back uphill. You can also go left and swim off the rocks where there are rails into deeper water. About an hour from Pompeii & Herculanem & the Amalfi coast, both trips worth doing. And a peaceful hotel to return to. Loved the family-run feel & warm welcome. Recommended.

    « Still Can't Be Beaten »

Returned here for the third time first week in July for a two week stay and we were very happy to see all of the usual staff in attendance.Unfortunately after less than half an hour in the hotel my wife (who is recovering from 2 knee replacement operations fell on the stairs her head hitting the wall, breaking her glasses causing a gash on her temple. I must thank Bruno and Anna in coming immediately to her assistance and doing their best to stem the flow of blood. We were then joined by Fabio, a member of the management who came with us to the hospital and whilst my wife was receiving stitches dealt with all the paperwork and greatly speeded the process up meaning we went from the hotel to the hospital (by bus) received treatment and returned to the hotel (by bus) in only 80 minutes. The next day we approached by Massimo another member of the management who offered us a change of room to one with a walk in shower as opposed to the in bath shower to make it easier for my wife and her knee problems, we were most grateful for this thoughtful gesture. I won't make this a long review as I have done an in depth review on my previous visit, all I can say is read my previous review and the other reviews by satisfied visitors, do not listen to the whingers and complainers as I can assure you there is no way their gripes are justified. If you wish to have a holiday in the most beautiful part of the most beautiful country in Europe then you must come to La Solara because what makes this place so special is the the staff who are always happy and friendly and the wonderful food all cooked to order, I can honestly say in my 3 visits here totalling 5 weeks I have never had a bad meal nor even a mediocre one if I lived locally I would pay to eat here. Ask the reception staff about excursions before you book with Thompsons etc. as the have a selection of alternatives. I would recommend the trip to La Masseria a typical Italian family farm where you get the full tour and finish with a fantastic lunch. Sorrento itself can be quite expensive unless you know where to go, so here are a couple of pointers. If you just want a beer don't to the main bars in the town where you pay 5 euro or more for an insipid draft beer go to the Kiosk Bar at the bottom of Corso Italia where you can get a 660ml. bottle of Peroni for 3.5 euro or if you descend the steps where the shuttle bus drops you off and turn left the is a bar who's name I forget about 50 yards from the steps where you can get the same bottle of beer for 2.5 euro. If you fancy a great traditional Italian pizza try Francos at the top of Corso Italia, don't be put off by the interior they do the best pizza you will ever taste at a reasonable price (drink prices are reasonable too). A decent cup of tea is very hard to find when you are in Italy, so try out Rita's bar half way up Corso Italia, a good cuppa served in a pot and the food is very good too. Tourist tips over, if you a planning a holiday in Sorrento do try La Solara you will not be better looked after as I refuse to believe any other hotel in the area has a better team of staff whose first priority is customer care and satisfaction. So to Anna, Bruno, Fabio and Massimo a very big thank you for the way you cared for my wife after her accident, and to Marcello and all his colleagues in the restaurant for keeping us well fed, thank you all and hope to see you all again soon.

    « Peace and tranquility »

This is a lovely friendly hotel. Staff are excellent and seem to run on very much a close family unit. We upgraded to a sea view with a terrace which was an excellent view and great place to relax. The restaurant is great with a lovely sea view. The meals were very good and a nice change to be waiter served. The shuttle bus is a brilliant but essential service and enables very easy access into Sorrento. All in all a lovely place which we hope to visit again. Thanks to all of the staff.

    « Simply fabulous.... »

We stayed at La Solara for a short four night stay at the start of August 2016. It was our first time at this hotel and we were not disappointed! We stayed in a Sea View Room with Terrace....simply WOW.... what a view....perfect to unwind with a Spritz and watch the stunning sunset.....literally perfection. The service across the board at the hotel is second to none - attentive, efficient, friendly and personal- but not overbearing like it can be in some hotels.... La Solara has a very relaxed ambience, making you feel instantly at home - exactly what is needed when on vacation. The free shuttle which departs every hour on then hour to Sorrento was great too - so we could go into the town for dinner and a wonder around the beautiful streets of Sorrento. In summary... a lovely hotel, with great staff and service.... topped off with the most amazing views.... you will not be disappointed by staying at La Solara.

    « The perfect stay »

We stayed here for 12 nights from 6 July. It was our first visit to Sorrento and chose La Solara after a fair bit of research. Our email communications with the hotel were dealt with promptly and courteously. We have a number of dietary requirements which the hotel advised would be no problem. As is usually the case when you arrive at a hotel for the first time, we had our fingers crossed! There was no need to be concerned. The hotel is first class. It is spotlessly clean, well maintained with relaxing public areas and a great pool. However, as good as all that is, it's greatest asset is the staff. They all go the extra mile and strike the right balance between formality and friendliness. Our dietary needs were perfectly catered for and we were able to enjoy a varied choice of food at all times. The restaurant staff were exceptional, Marcello and Enno in particular - we couldn't have asked for any more. I can't commend them highly enough. We loved the whole Sorrento area and will be going back there again next summer. The great thing is we know exactly where we will staying - La Solara. I would recommend it to anyone.

    « Another great holiday »

Just returned from a fabulous 10 day family holiday at La Solara again. The hotel and staff are fantastic. This is the 2nd visits in 2 years and likely to make it 3 in a row next year. Food is great also and the setting is perfect. The upkeep and cleanliness of the hotel rooms and grounds is immaculate.

« Return visit - every bit as good as we remembered »

Our second time at La Solara and fantastic to receive a friendly welcome back. Helpful and attentive (but never fussy) service from all the staff. Great location to explore the Bay of Naples and the Sorrento peninsular, just out from the town but very easy to get in on the courtesy bus for activities. The whole place is kept very clean and tidy. The food really stands out for a mention - delizioso. 2 weeks was not long enough - we'll be back again.

« Fantastic Hotel with wonderful staff »

Just back from 2 weeks staying here. A really great experience. The hotel is beautifully kept the facilities are great and the food and food choices are superb. However, it is the wonderful staff, their attitude, friendliness and self-evident happiness that makes La Solara that much better. Our rooms were spacious and immaculate (kept that way by the constantly working house-keeping staff), we had a massive sun-terrace at the front overlooking Ischia. The pool is great and never over-crowded; you can always get a bed or chair and the staff are very observant and attentive. The bar/dining area at the pool is covered and serves great food (you can swap your half-board to breakfast & lunch rather then breakfast and dinner if you prefer, which we did for a few of the days). The evening meals offer a large number of choices all of which are very high quality. The restaurant also overlooks Ischia, behind which the sun sets; Marchello (the Maitre d') always makes sure everyone gets a perfect view of the sunset - adjusting the window shades so as you are amazed rather than blinded by it! The hotel is a very reliable 10min free, air-conditioned, mini-coach trip from Sorrento itself; the coach runs hourly down and back from before 8am up to 11.15pm). I can't praise the staff enough for helping to make the holiday memorable, from Angelo at the bar, Marcello and Nello in the restaurant and to Pepe - who pops up everywhere! Go and see for yourself. We would go back in a hear beat.

    « Wonderful Stay »

We spent a fortnight at La Solara for our family holiday. We arrived very late in the evening, but still received a warm welcome and had a delicious cold meal waiting for us. It is a beautiful hotel with very attentive, efficient and friendly staff! We had two rooms on the same corridor, one for ourselves and one for our teenage son. Both had tiled floors and modern bathrooms. There was more than adequate storage space with plenty of drawers and hangers and the safe was easy to use. There was an excellent shower over the bath with a good flow of water, though the shower screen was not ideally placed and it was hard not to splash the floor. The basin was large enough for a proper wash if you didn't want to shower and there was plenty of shelf space for toiletries. There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room, which we welcomed (typical tea drinking Brits!). There is also a minibar fridge, which had enough spare room for a bottle of milk and a little water if required. Supplies for tea and in the bathroom were replenished if used and despite the notices about hanging the towels up, the bath towels were clean every day. The rooms were serviced twice daily. The evening turn down service included a chocolate each evening. There was a functioning hair dryer in the bathroom. There is a TV in the room with a few English channels, we mostly watched the BBC News channel to keep up to date, but son enjoyed the various sporting channels available. The WiFi is free and effective everywhere, including in the room, on the balcony and by the pool - I would say it really lives up to its claims which has not always been our experience. Both rooms had spacious balconies with a table and chairs and two deckchairs. There are efficient shutters, black out curtains and a fly screen. There is air conditioning when the window is closed. A small rack for drying is provided on the balcony so wet swimming costumes are easily dealt with. We had a couple of the inevitable Mediterranean ant invasions, which were swiftly dealt with by the hotel staff as soon as we reported the issue. The food was delicious. Breakfast was a buffet with all the usual options. If I have a tiny criticism it was that often the fruit was a little under ripe, but if you wanted to keep it to eat later in the day rather than eating it there and then, you would welcome that. Dinner in the evening includes a salad/hors d'oeuvres buffet and then three courses, there was a wide range of choice for each and everything we had was well cooked and tasty (special mention for the lemon risotto!). The waiters are all very attentive and friendly and ready with a smile, even at breakfast. Occasionally the patisserie chef is preparing desserts in the restaurant for added theatre. Each Sunday there is a Gala Dinner, on the terrace unless the weather is dodgy when it is held in the restaurant. This too was well cooked and speedily presented. I am always a little wary of such occasions, but thoroughly enjoyed myself (and the opportunity to applaud the chefs). For this there is live music. There is a large lounge and bar area, very clean, as is all the hotel, and with well appointed chairs. It has delightful panoramic views and is gently air-conditioned. In the evening music is played, live twice a week and recorded the rest of the time, but this is generally not intrusive. As in the restaurant, the staff are obliging, attentive and friendly. The pool area is one of the nicest I have encountered. The pool is large (23x12m) and there is also a small paddling pool. This means that it is large enough for everyone and there is no annoyance of overcrowding. The infinity style edge makes entry and exit easy everywhere and the whole area is spotlessly clean. The water is chlorinated (a slight disappointment as we prefer a salt pool, but that is another very minor niggle and I am not sure that salt would work on such a large scale) and exceptionally clean at all times. There is a large solarium terrace overlooking the bay which is beautifully clean and equipped with sun beds and umbrellas, all of which are in excellent condition. There is also a smaller terrace by the pool, shaded by awnings. There was never a time when we could not find a sunbed and Antonio the pool attendant is very obliging at moving beds and always has a few spares, so he can rustle up an extra if needed. Pool towels are provided free and never ran out (this is quite an achievement and I have never been anywhere with such good service of this type). There is a terrace café/bar, which was shady and well staffed, with plenty of space for everyone. Drinks and ice creams were also available on the terrace. In addition there is a small garden area with more seating and table tennis and table football. These facilities are well maintained - there were several new table tennis bats during our stay as the facings came loose. The hotel is a little way our of the centre of Sorrento, but there is a very reliable shuttle bus which runs literally all day - some hotels don't run theirs during the afternoon, but La Solara does which means you can come and go as you wish without having to fork out for a taxi or negotiate the complexities of the local buses. All in all we had a most enjoyable stay and are talking about when, not if, we might return as we felt so welcome. Everyone was so nice, I wish I could mention them all by name!

« Superb relaxing hotel with lovely staff »

We spent four nights in La Solara after travelling to Sorrento from a tiring four night stay in Rome. As a family of 6 (2 adults and 4 children), we needed two family rooms. As a previous reviewer has said, initially when we arrived we were surprised by the dated nature of the hotel decor (particularly in the corridors and bedrooms), however, we soon realised that this added to the hotel's charms and becomes irrelevant due to the quality and standard of the service in the hotel. Everything about the hotel makes it easy to slip into relaxation mode and I can easily understand why many people return to the hotel year after year. Both our rooms had balconies (one with a superb view over the sea with gorgeous sunsets every evening and the other with a view of the pool). The pool is excellent and for the first time on a holiday, we were able to sit near the pool and let our children play safely in it as it has a shallow end. There is also a separate very small pool which our youngest age 6 spent hours paddling in and out of. There was never any problem getting seats at the pool and the pool was never crowded. Everything was spotless and well maintained around the pool and also in the hotel itself. We ate a number of times in the restaurant area at the pool and there was an excellent range of food including pizza, pasta, sandwiches etc. One of the most charming aspects of this hotel is its staff, who went out of their way to accommodate our every need and are fantastic with children. One of the staff serving us dinner on our first night heard that it was our daughter's 11th birthday and at the end of our meal, 3 waiters appeared with a delicious cake for her and sang Happy Birthday to her with the rest of the diners joining it. This is something she will never forget! Our youngest daughter age 6 got especially attached to Giuseppe who waved and smiled at her all the time. She still chats about him! We can't praise all the staff highly enough for their professionalism and genuine desire to see hotel guests happy. We used the courtesy bus regularly to go into Sorrento and back to the hotel (it runs from 7.50am into Sorrento town centre with the last bus back from Sorrento at 11.15pm). The hotel is quite a distance from Sorrento town and it's definitely a good idea to use the bus unless you like uphill hikes in the heat! On our last day, we had arranged a transfer to Naples at 3pm and the hotel had no problem with us checking out and using the pool and having lunch there before we left. Other aspects of the hotel worth mentioning are the amazing views from the restaurant where breakfast and dinner are served, the gorgeous olive trees, lemon and lime trees all around, the table tennis table which the children had fun using and the lovely relaxing lobby/bar area where we were able to sit and have a drink in the evenings. The hotel and Sorrento itself is also an excellent base for a range of activities. We did a tour of Pompeii (1/2 hour train ride away) and a private boat tour of Capri and Positano (leaving from Sorrento harbour). All in all, we had a fantastic stay in Sorrento. As parents of young children, it can be hard even on holiday to get a break but our children loved this hotel and were so content there that we felt that we truly did get a break! We would definitely go back! Thanks all at La Solara.

I have been there for 2 nights during my first visit of Amalfi Coast. The welcoming was excellent. They picked us up from the center with free hotel shuttle every day. It is very good because you have a free car parking and you don't have to worry about drinking ?? Our room had a wonderful view of the Sorrento bay and the sunset from the pool is simply amazing???? The breakfast buffet is very rich and the mozzarella di buffala is so fresh and delicious?? The best hotel I stayed in Amalfi Coast.

    « Very nice Hotel »

We booked this hotel at short notice, due to a booking problem with our original choice. We were encouraged by the quality of reviews. Many of the staff have obviously been there for some time and recognised many returning guests. Attentive and friendly throughout the hotel, we were made to feel valued customers. Dinners were good and it was a pleasure to be served at table from a reasonable number of menu options. A change from the usual (sometimes) warm buffet style adopted by many hotels. Breakfasts were "Buffet" and it would be a little better to offer a small selection of "Cooked while you wait" items for some added variety. Sorrento is wonderful and there are many interesting places to visit - we would have liked to have been able to book for longer but this was not possible, so we did not get as much "pool time" as we would have liked. We had a small room, but on departure day we moved to another very much larger / nicer room as we were leaving at the end of the day - so I suspect our late booking left us with what was available. Recommended for couples of all ages. Children evident at the end of our stay as schools were breaking up.

« Lovely location, hotel and staff »

This was a family holiday for us, including two teenage boys and we all had a great time. Firstly, free wi-fi and good food meant the boys were happy and they found things they liked on the menu every night. The food was excellent and we would recommend eating in the hotel restaurant as Sorrento can be expensive. The rooms are nice, many have good views, they have tea and coffee facilities and they are well serviced each day. The pool is big and we never had a problem getting sun beds together even with a party of 4. The bus into Sorrento works perfectly, it takes only 10 minutes and walking the road route into town takes about 30 minutes at a decent pace. We would definitely recommend the hotel and the best part is that the staff make everyone so welcome.

« Fabulous hotel and staff!! »

Family of 7 with a short stop in Sorrento and this hotel and their staff were simply the best in every way possible. The hotel was lovely, as was the breakfast and dinner. The hotel rooms were clean and a decent size, and they took in all of our requests and made us very comfortable. Additionally the staff organized a transfer from the Naples airport to the hotel for us upon arrival, helped us with getting our lost luggage, booked a private boat tour of the Amalfi coast for our full day there, and finally organized another transfer for a tour of Pompeii, pizza in Naples and then off to the train station. They took so much time with us, and scheduled everything perfectly for us. Antonio & Massimo really went above and beyond. We cannot wait to return to this lovely hotel!

    « We'll be back! »

We spent a lovely 11 days here at the end of June this year and really didn't want to leave. When we first arrived we were both a little taken aback by the slightly old fashioned décor and were beginning to wonder why it had such great reviews. It didn't take long, however, to really settle into the whole rhythm of the place. Whether it's the hotel's size ( not too big but not too small ), the friendliness of the staff or a whole combination of things, but we have never been on holiday where all the guests were so relaxed and so friendly. The location is a good balance of peace and relaxation, whilst being only 10 minutes from the heart of Sorrento by the laid-on shuttle bus, or a 40 minute walk over the hills. Some lovely Roman ruins are just a 20 minute walk down the hill too. The pool area is just lovely ? in amongst lemon and olive trees - and the pool itself perfect for those who enjoy a swim as well as those who just want to cool off. Never had a problem getting a sun bed the whole time we were there! Again, probably due to its size, there is a real feeling of all the staff really caring that we had a good holiday ? whether it was the head waiter going through the menu every night to point out the lactose free options, or the chaps on reception arranging the hiring of a scooter for us. ( Initially rather nervous of the prospect, we chose a scooter as maybe the best way to see the Amalfi coast ? WOW! Not wrong! I have been all over the world and that day goes down as one of the very best experiences of my life. Photos don't do it justice ? breathtaking! In all a fabulous destination for a mix of relaxing and sightseeing ? like many others we will definitely be coming back again

« First visit - but definitely not our last! »

We have just returned from a fabulous week staying at La Solara - and what a beautiful and charming hotel it is. We travelled as two couples and we all felt at home as soon as we set foot in the lovely airy reception area and were welcomed by the charming staff. We travelled on a Thomson holiday but chose the hotel purely on the basis of the Trip Advisor reviews - and are so glad we did. It is an oasis of calm away from the bustle (lovely as it is) of Sorrento but the courtesy shuttle, which always ran to time, made it so easy to pop down into the town whenever we wanted to. A couple of times we also asked to be dropped off where the pavement starts so we could walk the last part with the fantastic views over the Bay of Naples - well worth doing. Our rooms were delightful: sparklingly clean, comfy beds, the added bonus of tea and coffee facilities in the room, a fantastic view across the Bay of Naples from our balconies and very well stocked bathrooms with plenty of hot water whenever required. The food was excellent: lovely choice at breakfast and our included dinner was way better than at many hotels which offer half board. We went with the intention of swapping dinner for lunch on a few occasions and then wandering down in to town to eat at some of the very pretty little restaurants - but the food was so good at La Solara that we never did! Special thanks for the great fish dishes (I had fish most nights and it was a different variety and beautifully cooked every day) and the absolutely gorgeous risottos! Special mention too of the delightful Gala Dinner on Sunday evening - not always our type of thing but it was so lovely to eat outdoors around the pool (the staff had gone to a great deal of trouble to set everything up) and the food was wonderful so we thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening. I should also mention that there was a good variety of excellent local wine (red, white and rose) and all at a very reasonable price. The staff know how to make a great Aperol Spritz too! The pool is huge for the size of the hotel (so many 5* hotels seem to have tiny pools) and was delightful to use - it never got busy and there were always plenty of sunbeds to be had, whatever time of day we wandered down. Special thanks to Antonio for looking after us so well - he soon learned which of us like the full sun and which the shade! Probably the very best thing about the hotel is the staff! They all made us feel like we were such welcome guests and went out of their way to be helpful and charming. Everyone we encountered, from the maids to the Maitre D, seemed to take a real pride in delivering the very best quality of service and nothing was ever too much trouble. It seems unfair to really single out anyone since they all work as a fabulous team but I think I have to make special mention of Nello, Marcello and Guiseppe in the Restaurant plus the wonderful Antonio at Reception who organised a couple of fantastic trips for us. We hired a private car and driver (financially easier because there were 4 of us) for day trips to the Amalfi Drive (Positano, Amalfi and Ravello are all so picturesque and our driver stopped at many viewpoints along the way) and to Salerno and fabulous Paestum with its amazingly well preserved Greek temples. By contrast, we "did" Pompeii and Herculaneum on the train ourselves - it's very easy as the shuttle drops you very close to the station and the trains go direct to both sites. One tip (which a friend had given us before we went): if you intend to go to both sites then go to the quieter Herculaneum first and buy the three day combined ticket - then you can walk past all the long queues at Pompeii and go straight in! There are many delightful cafes and bars in Sorrento - you really are spoilt for choice. But if you like a bit of luxury I can recommend going to the 5* Bellevue Syrene for lunch and the Excelsior Vittoria for coffee (or in my case Aperol Spritz!). Both hotels have views to die for (and gorgeous gardens) and welcome visitors who are not staying there. Yes, you pay a bit of a premium (not overmuch though) but the surroundings and view make you feel like you are in a film! I really hope we can return to La Solara before too long - it is quite delightful.

« Top staff and lovely location. »

We stayed here for 11 nights and was our first trip to Sorrento. We couldn't have chosen better for location, service, food and organisation. The room was well appointed and thoroughly clean - and maintained that way throughout our stay. The staff, in all areas were polite and friendly and we were greeted with a 'Bon giorno', or a 'Buonasera', with a smile, wherever we went. Located a few kilometers away from the hussle & bussle of Sorrento town, the hotel's own free, hourly courtesy bus was an absolute godsend and a real bonus. The in house food was excellent and we never felt the need to eat out, although we did go to the Ristorante la Favorita, home of Cannelloni, just to try it out. (Not disappointed here either) Would recommend this hotel on many levels, as it ticked all the boxes.

    « The Best »

We stopped at La Solara on the recommendation of a friend & we're glad we did, it must be without doubt one of the best hotels we have stopped in. The customer service that they provide is first class, the food is excellent, the hotel staff cannot do enough for you & are helpful at all times. The shuttle bus is on time & always clean & the pool area is beyond reproach, our room was clean, spacious & had a terrific view of the bay & also protection from the sun if you wanted it, there was a complimentary bottle of local olive oil in the room & also chocolates on our arrival, which we found very nice. All we could say about La Solara is Bellissima !!

    « Beautiful »

Stayed at the La Solara hotel for the first time and what a gem it is. We nearly dismissed this hotel and so glad we didn't. The staff cannot do enough for you. Food was excellent. Breakfast there was fresh fruit, ham & cheese, cakes, scrambled eggs, bread, fresh tomatoes and yoghurt. Dinner there were 4 choices of dishes and wine was reasonably priced. There was also a varied menu for lunch. The Gala evening every Sunday was fantastic. 5 courses and live music and a chance to dress up into something nice. There were free pool towels and plenty of really nice sunbeds and parasols. Always managed to get two whatever time of day. Rooms were cleaned daily and were spotless and the maid left a chocolate each on the table. We upgraded to a sea view which had a fantastic view of Mt. Vesuvius. Laura our Thompsons Rep. was superb and so helpful. We booked the Amalfi drive, trip to Mt. Vesuvius, Pompeii & Herculaneum, all very good trips. Also went to the Opera (3 tenors) which is worth seeing. We swapped our dinner in hotel for lunch one day so we could try the Parrucchiano restaurant (this is where Laura takes you on the walkabout) Had a wonderful meal in a fantastic setting. Also worth going to is to the Foreigners Bar which had the most fantastic view. Also had lunch at the Grande Marina where there were plenty of fish restaurants. The free shuttle bus ran from 8am to 11pm daily. This is a wonderful hotel and we will definitely return.

« Beautiful stay once again »

We've just returned from our 4th stay at BW La Solara. To say we like the place is an understatement but we yet again could not find fault. There is little point in repeating the detail of other reviews but we must praise ALL the staff. Absolute professionals in every sector of the hotel. We really felt that our custom was greatly appreciated. The food was everything you would hope for in an Italian restaurant. My wife is a vegetarian and the options for her each night were numerous and varied. The entire hotel complex is absolutely spotless so the chambermaid team deserve a huge mention. We were on honeymoon on this visit and were able to totally relax for the 9 days after a hectic few months. There are few certainties in life but we will certainly be returning to this outstanding hotel in 2017! Wish we'd booked another week! A big thank you to the entire team at BW La Solara for ensuring our honeymoon was just fantastic. See you all in 2017! Michael and Nuala Belfast

    « Very relaxing break. »

My wife and I recently had a ten night stay at this hotel and can honestly say it was a wonderful experience. The food was excellent, the hotel itself was clean and well presented throughout and the staff were very friendly and close knit, almost like family. Special mentions go to Franco, Pepe, Angello, Nello and Marcello. All were fantastic. The pool area was relaxed with no clammer for sun beds, and as the clientele of the hotel tended to be of an older age, I would say 55+, the number of children on site were few. The hotel runs a mini bus into Sorrento on the hour which only takes around ten minutes to get to, and picks you up on quarter past the hour. This was very useful as there's not a great deal immediately outside the hotel save for a beach and small village not far away. The only obstacle to the beach was the steep road down to it. We were told it was 15minutes walk down and half an hour back up! Overall highly recommended.

    « So good! »

We stayed here for 10 nights and it was a delight. The staff were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The food was simply excellent and very well served. Though a 10 mins drive from the centre of Sorrento, the shuttle-bus is just brilliant and more than makes up for the "out of town" location. We were struck by how many people we met at the hotel were "returnees" - it didn't take us long to find out why! This is certainly a hotel we would come back to.

    « Fantastic Week! »

Not much to add to all the other very positive reviews, but to say what a great way to spend a chilled out week , with staff that care and top quality service and facilities. The weather helped too! Grazie Mille to the La Solara Team!

    « Pampered »

Just got back from this hotel. Didn't have to lift a finger, the staff took care of everything. The weather was very hot so didn't do any trips but thoroughly enjoyed relaxing by the pool with the odd trip into Sorrento on the courtesy mini bus. The food was varied and the wine recommendation from the waiter excellent! Go and enjoy!

« Very Nice but not 5 star »

We stayed here for 11 nights on a booking with Thomson holidays. The immediate impression of the hotel was the warm welcome of the staff and how light and airy it was, this view was reinforced throughout our stay, the public rooms are excellent and the staff without exception are warm & friendly. Our room was on the side of the hotel and although not with the best of the views it was roomy, had excellent air condition and very comfortable beds. It was also a surprise to get English channels on the TV, which is not so common in Italy. The pool and pool area were very good, plenty of sun beds and some with shade and a nice area for lunchtime snacks, the food was excellent with a good choice. The prices in the hotel were fair for both alcohol and food, not really expensive but this was pre Brexit! With Thomsons we were on a half board basis which becomes a little repetitive after a while ( not the menu but not going elsewhere) so we did out a couple of times, however there was nothing wrong with the food or service. My 2 main criticisms are aimed at the bathroom and the breakfast choice, with the former, it was impossible to shower without getting the floor wet, the unit was situated at the centre point of the bath not the end, so water was leaving the bath even with the shower curtain shut. Regarding breakfast, there was no change in choice from day to day, Macedonia fruit salad was served every morning and water melon, it was very repetitive and also disappointing that coffee came out of a machine with milk in sachets, not fresh, we thought that could have been better. It's well documented that the hotel is well out of town but the shuttle service is excellent and always on time, the bus is about a 20-25 seater so you don't have to worry about getting a seat. You can walk into Sorrento but you need to be fit as its quite a climb at the start, there is nowhere to walk around the hotel in the evening. Besides the couple of complaints, it was a very nice stay.

« Another excellent holiday again at La Solara »

As the Title indicates we have had yet another memorable holiday in the care of professional and caring staff. All aspects of the hotel from reception, dining room, pool and house keeping were excellent and friendly. We have been to this hotel a number of times and the service and professionalism of the hotel has not changed and new visitors to the hotel who have looked at Trip Advisor to see ratings will be surprised at how true the facts are. Look forward to booking our next visit. Mr & Mrs Bainbridge

Just returned from our 11 night stay here for the first time and certainly wont be the last, everything was exceptional, the staff were all lovely and friendly, rooms were lovely and clean with looks across the Bay of Naples, pool area was clean and no fighting for sunbeds at anytime of the day, courtesy bus into Sorrento which went every hour was good, also the sunday night gala evening which the food was served around the pool area was a big plus and enjoyable night. we will be returning soon as do many of the customers

    « Idyllic la Solara. »

My wife and I have been visiting this dream of a hotel, on and off, since the summer of 1994. Although we've been to other resorts, both in Europe and beyond, we've not yet found anywhere to match it. Whilst we were there, during my70th birthday, towards the end of June, the staff went to considerable efforts to make sure that it was a most memorable occasion; I was deeply moved by their kindness. This was just one of the many examples of the care that they bestow on their guests, regardless of nationality, class, creed or colour. This is why there are so many positive comments about La Solara; many of the negative ones, are just downright petty as far as I can see. As retired professionals from the UK, we're not given to hollow words, that is why this trip was our fourteenth in twenty-two years. Surely, that has got to speak volumes in praise of this unique establishment!!!

« NICE BUT OVERRATED - NO OUTDOOR DINING »

My wife and I visited the La Solara for the first time in June and liked the hotel - it was very clean and the staff friendly. Our room was pretty quiet although there was no privacy screen between the balconies. TV is poor - only news (BBC, CNN and SKY) in English. The breakfast selection is produced on a budget - limited range and cheap ingredients, cheap museli and no dried fruit and worse of all the coffee is self-serve out of a machine (using powdered milk - ugh!). The evening meal is much better- the Gala dinner on Sunday was very good. The issue for us was no outdoor dining - all meals are taken in the stuffy dining room - window seats were at a premium during breakfast and always filled up first - you were allocated a table for dinner - ours was in the middle of the room - not good. I tolerated this for a couple of nights and then asked for our meal to be served on our balcony. To give the hotel credit - they did this. Their Manager asked me what was wrong with their dining room and I explained that we prefer to eat outside - one of the reasons we go to hot countries! He told me they do serve the Gala Dinner outside in the "summer" - it was 29C degrees when when we visited! Not sure what he meant by summer or when it was going to be warm enough! One morning we left the hotel early for an excursion and they prepared a breakfast bag - it was very good. Our room had a long balcony and a side view across the Bay of Naples where we could watch the sun set. The balcony furniture consisted of two rather odd deck chairs and small metal table and two metal chairs - the latter were OK if you used pillows for cushions. The pool was great with loads of sun beds - we went out for the day and then went for a swim before it closed (at a very early 7.30pm) - one evening they clearly wanted to go home as the staff were hosing the area immediately beside us at 6.45pm!. The hotel is out of the town on a very busy road so offers a shuttle bus on the hour to take you down into Sorrento. The last bus back is 11 15pm. We used this quite a lot and found it to be very reliable. It was suggested that we could walk along the road outside the hotel - whilst we did see some people doing so, I felt it was dangerous - there was no path but lots of coaches, lorries, cars and fast-moving scooters. Overall we enjoyed the holiday but feel they could do better with the dining arrangements - if they can serve the Gala outside during the summer then they could offer breakfast and dinner outside - to those who prefer this. I have stayed in many hotels that offer both - allowing customers to choose.

« The sun shines on La Solara »

We stayed at La Solara for 10 nights in June.We found the hotel comfortable with all mod cons. It has a wonderful family atmosphere with the staff helpful and friendly. The restaurant has an Italian menu with a reasonable choice of Italian food. The view from the hotel is across the road to the sea and, although it is set apart from the town, there is an hourly free bus service into the centre. We would definitely go back there.

    « Wonderful Hotel »

Just returned from a two week stay here with family and just like the other reviews we had a brilliant time. The staff are absolutely wonderful and will always go the extra mile to make you feel comfortable. For example they will offer to make something else if what is on the dinner menu for the evening is not suitable. The food is delicious and we were spoilt for choice every night! The pool area is great, clean and the pool itself is lovely. The minibus service is also fab and it was on time every time we took it. If you're worried about getting wifi then you don't need to, it's super fast and we had no issues with it. Our rooms were lovely, nice size and bright. All in all we had a wonderful trip and I would not hesitate in returning to La Solara again!

« A great hotel with dedicated and hard working staff »

I don't think there is very much I can add to other reviews. We have just returned from a 2 week stay and met so many people who have stayed here on a regular basis, I can see why. The staff work hard and cannot do enough for you - they made our holiday one of the best we have ever been on. The whole place has a relaxed feel, there were always sunbeds available with plenty of shade if you wanted it, the pool is large and well maintained. The food is excellent quality and plentiful - so had to keep an eye on my waistline! We shall definitely be returning. Thank you to all the staff at La Solara.??

    « Lovely hotel »

This was our first visit to La Solara and we weren't disappointed. It's a very friendly environment the Staff are amazing, the food is amazing especially the Gala dinner on Sunday's not to be missed. Our room had a beautiful view across the Bay of Naples where we could watch the sun set from our balcony. The pool was great with loads of sun beds. There is a shuttle bus on the hour to take you down into Sorrento the drivers are friendly & very helpful. The last bus back is 11 15. Sorrento is a beautiful place, the combination of staying at La Solara made it a perfect holiday, you will not be disappointed.

« Best Ocean View Terrace! »

From dinner reservations to arranging shipping some of our goods home to the US to our special dining requests--this hotel is an all around 5 star! All of the staff was extremely friendly and 100% customer service based! We stayed here for our wedding anniversary and are already planning our next trip! It is an 8-10 min shuttle ride into the downtown of Sorrento and the hotel provides free shuttle service until 11pm every hour! If you are a night owl, a taxi will be 50 euros to get back to the hotel. We had a junior suite room with an ocean view terrace which had a spectacular view!

« Great Staff and Stay »

Everything at this hotel is great. The staff are friendly, the pool is huge, the food is fantastic, and the place is immaculate. I can't wait to go back!!1 The only thing that was difficult (and our fault for not figuring this out ahead of time) was getting into Sorrento on the ferry from Naples and not having a clue where to go. Couldn't get Wi-Fi to figure it out. Finally found a tourist desk where the girls called the hotel for us to figure out how we get to the hotel.

« Another lovely stay at La Solara »

We've been to La Solara for several years, and each year it is a wonderful holiday. This year was no different! The hotel has a view of the Bay of Naples looking out towards Ischia, stunning especially when the sun sets right in the middle. If you don't get a sea view room this can be enjoyed from the bar or the sun deck area. The rooms are all a good size and kept up to date in terms of decor and facilities each year. Being a mile or so out of town makes it nice and quiet and theres a free bus in/out every hour. There is a nice beach about half a mile down a hill with bar/restaurants - as its a bit around the corner it also has a view of Vesuvius. Breakfast is a help yourself buffet with croissants, pastries, cake, cereals, meats & cheese and bacon, sausages and scrambled eggs etc. Its all good, and hard not to have a three course breakfast. Coffee is great (bean to cup machine). Dinner is a set menu if half board or a la carte if not. The set menu offers many choices every night and dishes rarely repeat over a two week stay, and all of the dishes are wonderful Neapolitan fare. I especially like the arancini, but to be fair I especially like everything else too. Before the first course you help yourself to antipasti, again wonderful and varied. The tiramisu is seriously good. The staff throughout the hotel are all experts at customer service, being courteous, friendly and exceedingly helpful. A couple of years back my son turned his nose up at a fish starter and Marcello the head waiter produced a plate of pasta with tomato sauce instantly to replace it, possibly from nowhere and without us asking. The whole hotel and bedrooms are always spotlessly clean. The 25m pool is great for trying to burn off the tiramisu etc and there is a gym. The sundeck is also kept in excellent order, and nearby there is an outdoor eating area for lunch. I find the lunches a bit big given breakfast and dinner, but its easy enough to share a dish. Lello and Carlo visit tue, thu, sun and sing/play a variety of neapolitan and modern songs. They are just ace, they play requests and are at their best having fun with the audience. Thomson have excursions, but its pretty simple to visit Capri, Ischia, Amalfi just by going into town, walking down to the port and catching the ferry. Pompeii and Herculaneum and Naples are easily reached on the train. All in all just a great relaxing friendly holiday.

« Would absolutely stay again! »

Had a 2 night stay and would have been very happy if had been longer. Hotel has great and had a very helpful staff along with being very clean. The breakfast buffet had a great assortment of hot and cold food. It is a bit out of the city but has an hourly shuttle bus which is very convenient and saved from the higher taxi rates in the area. The swimming pool is much larger than most hotel pools and also has a nice children's pool. Would be a very nice place for a family to stay. Mattresses are very firm. The staff made nice tour suggestions.

« Delightful hotel, in a peaceful location, with fantastic views over the bay of Naples. »

A lovely hotel, wonderful, friendly helpful staff. Our room was quite large with a view over the bay of Naples. It was clean and the bed was very comfortable,. Food was good with plenty of choice, the salad bar was excellent. The reception staff were great and happy to arrange trips to Capri and the Amalfi coast. The swimming pool had plenty of sun loungers and never seemed to be crowded, a selection of snacks were available at the poolside bar. Evening entertainment was well provided by Lala, a variety of Italian and popular songs. The Gala dinner was great! The curtesy bus ran into Sorrento every hour, so if you want to be away from the noise, but within easy reach, the hotel is in an ideal location. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

    « Lovely stay »

Just returned from a lovely stay. Fourth time in sorrento but first at this hotel. Leave all your concepts of a Best Western Hotel behind . I read through the reviews before I booked and I have to say it is well worthy of the accolades it gets. Many of the guests return time after time and I don't blame them. Please do not be put off because it is a bit out of town. You have all the benefits of being surrounded by the relative peace and tranquility of the Italian countryside but the free shuttle is regular as clockwork and usually takes 6 - 10 mins. dependent on traffic. Compare this to most of the hotels nearer to the centre from which you have at least a 15 minutes walk in the noisy and opressive traffic. The road into the centre is hardly a pleasant stroll! Nothing more to say that has not been been said about this hotel previously. Treat yourself.

    « Eccezionale! »

Just back from our third visit to this wonderful hotel. I have little to add to my previous comments and those of other reviewers who have also had the good fortune to experience the high standards of service of all of the staff at this fantastic hotel. If you are looking for good food, friendly and efficient service, high standards of cleanliness and a spectacular setting this is where to find all of these things and more. Many thanks to the staff at La Solara all of whom from reception, housekeeping, restaurant, bar to Antonio the pool man helped to make this another memorable holiday in Sorrento. Looking forward to seeing you all again next year.

    « A truly wonderful hotel »

Recently visited this marvellous hotel with 2 friends for a week's holiday. What an amazing place. Located on the outskirts of Sorrento, but with an hourly free of charge shuttle bus, the delights of Sorrento were easy to reach. The hotel has amazing views, a realxing atmosphere, and you feel like you are at home. The staff are brilliant. Nothing is too much trouble and that is from front office to bedroom attendants to waiters and bar staff. The food is abundant, delicious and well presented and always served with a smile. Cannot fault anything about the hotel. Go there and feel pampered.

    « What a great find »

This hotel was a real gem, lovely service, they really went out of their way to make your stay a good one. Obvious just how proud the staff were of the hotel Pool was warm and plenty of beds, as soon as you entered the pool area the pool attendant was friendly and so helpful. Drinks were reasonably priced and delivered to your sun beds with smile. Food was delicious and they were more than happy to save any of your unfinished wine bottle to be brought to your table for dinner. Food Portions were very generous at lunch and really fresh. 1/2 board was well worth doing and dinner was lovely with good choice Courtesy bus was brilliant every hour until late at night to sorrento - 10 mins journey. Whole hotel was spotless, excellent wifi throughout If you want to be slightly out of hustle and bustle but with easy access to town then this hotel is great Would definitely go back

    « A wonderful hotel »

The hotel is immaculately clean, the staff are very attentive we felt as though we were being looked after by a family rather than being in a large hotel. There is a fantastic swimming pool with poolside sun beds, but best of all was our lovely room with a terrace looking over the bay.

We have just returned from yet another fabulous holiday at La Solara, Having had a break from Italy last year due to family illness, it was an absolute joy to be back with at the hotel and staff who we consider as friends. Every aspect of our stay was first class and is reflected in the very positive comments on tripadvisor 1506 excellent reviews can't be wrong. We are amazed at some of the negative comments, one of which we found offensive if you don't like authentic Italian cuisine, the distance from town, or the transport provided, all of which are well documented, then don't go to La Solara. We had some great trips out which we arranged ourselves to Capri, Pompeii and Amalfi, all brilliant days out. Our stay this time was in room 410 with great views over the Bay of Naples. Our heart felt thanks yet again go to Marcello, Nello and all the staff in the restaurant, Angelo and Pepe, Massimmo, Antonio and the reception staff, Pool attendant Antonio, Ugo who always makes you feel welcome and at home, and lastly the cleaning staff. As stated another great holiday and we will be back. Grazie La Solara

    « WONDERFUL HOTEL »

Returned Monday from a fabulous 10 day holiday at this wonderful hotel. We were on half board and the food was exceptional especially the 2 Sunday Gala Dinners. Staff were superb and very efficient and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room was very comfortable and clean with a good sea view and balcony and the evening bed turn down and sweet was a class touch. We were on holiday with my daughter and her partner and young 10 month old son (who stayed in a different hotel) and on 2 nights we had the baby and the hotel provided a cot while the staff from reception and in the restaurant were so good and helpful and with warm affection for the baby -- we are very grateful for the professionalism of the gentlemen in reception for arranging it The cleaning staff were very efficient and the pool area and pool snack bar were really great I must mention the courtesy bus transfer into and from Sorrento which was every hour Mario the driver was superb and very kind and dropped us off at our daughter's hotel on the way into town and was great when we had the baby with us -- THANK YOU MARIO!!! THIS WAS A FANTASTIC HOTEL AND WE RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE -- WE SHALL CERTAINLY RETURN

Have been to Sorrento every year for the last 20 years and have stayed in many hotels. What a shame we haven't found this hotel sooner. The staff are so friendly and can't do enough to help you. Rooms are so comfortable and clean. I can understand why guests come back year after year and hope to do the same. Pam and John Ockenden

« Fantastic hotel in Sorrento »

La Solara is a wonderful hotel. Spacious and clean, well maintained and with beautiful views from the lobby and pool area as well as some rooms. We had a family suite for 4 which had one King bed and 2 twin beds. The room was very comfortable for us. The included breakfast was wonderful. The free shuttle to town also was very convenient. This was a great place to stay to take a day trip to the Amalfi Coast & Pompeii. Highly recommend this hotel - it's a great choice for Sorrento and surrounding areas.

    « Truly Exceptional Hotel »

We have returned today from our first trip to Sorrento staying at La Solara Hotel. This hotel is simply amazing. Beautiful rooms, friendly and helpful staff, the best food we have ever tasted in a hotel, superb pool area, free WIFI, we really cannot fault it. Check in and out was smooth and trouble free. We were made to feel so welcome throughout our stay and nothing was too much trouble. The shuttle bus was fantastic and the last bus back was 11.15 pm so plenty of time to explore the beautiful city of Sorrento. The bus was always on time and the driver was so friendly and cheerful. The restaurant staff were superb, service was quick and efficient and as mentioned the food was fab, the Gala Dinner on our last night was lovely. Our room was spotlessly clean and the same high standard was maintained daily. Every night when we returned, the beds had been turned down and chocolates had been left for us, they were delicious even after a 4 course meal!! We will return without hesitation to this wonderful hotel in beautiful Sorrento and would like to thank the staff and management for giving us a truly memorable holiday.

« Excellent Hotel, First class service »

Myself and partner have just returned from our first visit to Sorrento, staying at the Hotel La Solara. The city was beautiful, and the hotel was the PERFECT place to stay. On arrival we were greeted with a glass of champagne which was a lovely touch. We soon noticed the staff continuously add little touches to make sure your stay is a special one, including a complimentary bottle of olive oil in our room from the manager and an evening chocolate which greeted us each night. The staff was always friendly and quick to help and the the cleanliness of the hotel was impeccable. The pool area was peaceful and a great place to relax after a day in the town, the garden area was picturesque and we enjoyed a glass of wine amongst the lemon trees as often as we could. The free shuttle bus service was extremely handy and a brilliant service offered by the hotel. We ended up using this service every day and was never disappointed (we always got a seat and the bus was never late). We stayed in one of the rooms on the fourth floor which had a large balcony with a sea view. The view was gorgeous and on our first evening we decided to just stay on the balcony all night watching the sunset while having a few drinks from the mini bar (which was really reasonably priced!). We would 100% recommend this room and the hotel. Thank you to all the staff for making our first visit to Sorrento a memorable one. We'd love to return one day and see you all again.

« Lovely Hotel and Location »

Had a lovely time at this hotel with the friendliest and most helpful staff - got off to a bit of a disappointing start with the rooms, but the staff pulled out all the stops to deal with this and half way through we were given two lovely rooms with a stunning views. It was beautiful and dealt with in a very friendly and humorous fashion.

    « An absolute Jewel »

It has been a long time since we stayed at a hotel that ticked all the boxes! The location is superb. Situated some 10 minutes or so by a free hourly shuttle bus to and from Sorrento from where you can journey onward to by bus/train/ferry to the highlights of the region. The hotel and the staff could not be faulted they were efficient , friendly and polite at all times and the food was excellent. Breakfast is buffet style with a vast selection of food both hot & cold. A comprehensive menu is available in the pool bar should you be relaxing around the pool. The evening a la carte meal was amazing with an excellent and varied selection of meals to suit all. The menu was not repeated during our stay. The Gala Dinner was magnificent. The regional wine is excellent and very reasonably priced. We had a quiet, comfortable, spacious west facing sea view room with efficient air conditioning, full WiFi, a mini bar and television. Can I fault the hotel and staff ? No! Will we return? Yes definitely!

    « Return visit »

Just returned from a 2nd visit to La Solara, again a most enjoyable time. All members of staff are most friendly and helpful. We particularly like the evening meals with waiter service, be prepared to put on a little weight. Sorrento and surrounding areas are so beautiful plenty if things to do even on return visits. Looking forward to returning in September, thank you for a memorable visit.

Excellent Hotel and location to explore Sorrento. Staff, food and amenities were excellent. The courtesy bus was 1st class and ran on the hour as promised and saved a lot of walking into the main town. The food and restaurant staff made the hotel visit everything it should be. I went with the head waiters wine recommendation every evening and never had a bad bottle and the most expensive was €16. Very reasonable.

« An excellent hotel with great staff »

Four of us have just returned from a super 2 week holiday here. The hotel is situated about 1.5 Km from Sorrento centre and an hourly free bus takes you there in a few minutes. The location means it is very quiet which was a major consideration for us, we had 2 different rooms one with a view over the pool and toward the Bay of Naples and Ischia and one with a garden view which also had views over the bay. The reception staff were welcoming, friendly and very helpful, nothing was a trouble to them and requests were met with positive responses. The rooms along with every part of the hotel were spotless and maids were busy all day keeping everything to a high standard. The food is very good with a buffet style breakfast and the evening meals were served from a good and varied choice of menu, there was a well presented salad buffet followed by a further 3 courses. Being a party of 4 we had most things on the menu which was not repeated during our 2 weeks. The food was good, tasty, with decent portions and nicely presented. The waiters were pleasant good humoured and very willing to help with choices etc. Located on an elevated site with lovely sea views and a spacious 23m heated pool with ample sun beds, chairs and an outside pool bar and dining area we spent several days in between sightseeing just relaxing here. The only downside to the location is the lack of a footpath along the road which makes walking less relaxing, though a small beach and harbour is just across the road and down a winding road about 20 minutes walk. The free shuttle bus into Sorrento made up for this. Overall this is a great hotel and we have no hesitation in recommending La Solara to anyone wanting a quiet hotel just minutes from the busier and noisier town centre hotels.

« Lovely clean quiet hotel »

The most important thing for us when we booked our stay at La Solara was that one of our party who is coeliac would have a good holiday abroad without worrying about the food. The La Solara really did a great job and the restaurant staff were brilliant. At every dinner the menu was explained to us - what was gluten-free and what was not. The food was brought to the table, so no queuing, and on Sundays the chefs parade at the gala dinner. For breakfast there was a range of gluten-free products at the buffet. We found this was a small hotel in a quiet location out of the noise and bustle of Sorrento, but the rooms were spacious with a balcony - not necessarily with a sea-view, but a nice view all the same. We liked the little touches you get in a good hotel, a drink on arrival, the bed turned down every evening and a chocolate on the side. We also enjoyed the large swimming pool, and the bar/lounge has wonderful panoramic views of the sunsets. We found the garden with the table tennis was a little bit smaller than it appears in the photos! The staff were always very helpful and the courtesy bus into town was a great plus as it was not practicable to walk into town due the winding roads with no pavements. As a family we like to explore an area on foot so we were a little bit disappointed. However it is possible to walk to the local beach - Marina di Puolo -although the road is very steep in places so it's a bit of a struggle on the way back up! This is a good base for exploring the area - Amalfi, Pompeii, Herculaneum are all on the must see list - or taking the courtesy bus into Sorrento to explore the shops in the narrow streets or drink coffee in the piazza or overlooking the sea.

    « Super Solara »

Booked at short notice with Thomsons and stayed 15-22 April. Had chosen La Solara based on the great reviews and a very good deal. Arrived very late, just after midnight and directed to the restaurant for a meal which was a very welcome and pleasant surprise and the Food was perfect for such a late hour. Our room was fine but not with a great outlook but it was all that was available, hence the great price. It was my wife's Birthday on the 16th so I emailed the hotel to arrange flowers, which were amazing and very good value, and they were extremely helpful. They told me the night manager would be in touch and Antonio emailed me the next night. We found all the positive comments to be accurate and had a lovely time there. The hotel is spotless, which is one of our main requirements, the food varied and good quality and the staff the friendliest you could ask for. The pool area was very nice with great views across to Ischia. The hotel bus is a great plus, runs like clockwork and will drop you off at other points en route if you ask. Our highlight, a trip to Capri, was as a result of great advice from Massimo on the front desk. I had missed the rep to book with Thomsons so asked about the trip detailed in a leaflet in our room. Massimo advised that there was a better trip, including some food and drink, which he would recommend so we booked that and had a wonderful day. The trip was with Vervece Charters and is a family affair with the charming Nando our skipper that day. From the pick up to the end it was a great day out with just 11 people on our boat making you feel quite special. We had a few hours on Capri before circling the island being shown the sights and having time for a swim. Nando gave us all a lovely cheese and ham roll, made by Mamma, and a cold drink and, after passing through the Lovers Passage, a drink if Mammas hime made Limoncello. The cost was €80 and was worth every bit and when telling fellow guests who had booked the Thomson's trip at €78 were even more convinced that Massimos advice was spot on. The overall holiday was great and we would highly recommend La Solara to anyone considering Sorrento.

    « A pleasant stay »

The little touches by the lovely staff make this hotel a good place to stay. On arrival you are greeted with a glass of prosecco to relax in the large lounge with. A chocolate is left beside your bedside on a nightime for you come in to, It is the little touches like this that make this a good place to stay. There is a hourly shuttle bus which takes 7 mins to get you back and forth from the town centre. The food for me was just okay, I think we enjoyed the breakfasts better than our evening meal. However a good choice is given and the meal is served to you. Other guests remarked on how good the food was, we might be a bit picky. The location is close to a beach within a 10 minute walking distance gets you there, which is a nice extra for Sorrento. Friendly staff, great bus and good breakfasts.

Booked this hotel last thing. The staff were top notch. The hotel was very clean. The rooms were really spacious. The food and drinks were of very good quality. And the courtesy bus into sorrento very efficient. I would recommend this hotel to anybody wanting a relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle.

    « Fabulous Hotel!!! »

We stayed here 9th to 20th May 2016. I can't speak highly enough about this hotel and staff. We were half board and intended eating out several times but the food was so good we only ate out on three occasions. We loved the fact it was waiter service - no mad pushing and shoving to fetch food yourself! We had a room over the pool. I would avoid an inland room as it appeared these looked straight into the mountain (and extremely close at that). There is a courtesy bus that runs into Sorrento every hour and returns every fifteen minutes past. At first we thought this may be a problem but actually the pros of this hotel far outweighed it's position slightly out of town (8 minute drive in the bus). Having asked the question, I believe a taxi cost was expensive at approx 25 euros. We booked the Amalfi Experience trip through the hotel cost 70 euros as opposed to 113 euro with Thomsons. The advantage (apart from the cost) was a very amiable Italian Guide(Roberto) who entertained us the whole eight hours. Mould highly recommend this trip. Pompeii/Herculaneum/Capri we made our own way to and the only advice there would be to hire a tour guide once there. We tried the audio guide but that was not successful. Lastly, our only disappointment was the weather, we had two and half days of sun and blue skies. The rest of the time it was grey and cold which I had not expected. Indeed, everyone we spoke to (many of whom go year on year and greet the staff like old friends) told us it was very unusual weather and usually it's a lot warmer and sunnier. I guess we were just unlucky but I did feel 'cheated' as wanted a little sun and warmth. However, it does give me a reason to return and get those same photos with blue skies instead of black clouds.

    « Comfortable & clean hotel »

This hotel is very, very clean and comfortable with the staff being extremely friendly and the food very nice. My only problem was that having a sea facing and front of hotel bedroom, the Italian Hells Angels were in town and rode back and forth past the hotel day and night. When we asked the hotel if we could have the air conditioning on so that we could have the balcony door shut to drown out the noise at night we were told that the air conditioning does not come on until 1st June even though the rooms are advertised as having air conditioning. When we returned to our room later they had very kindly left a rather large air conditioning unit on the floor, with the pipe running into the bathroom which, when turned on, sounded extremely loud and was a health and safety nightmare but it was good of the hotel to try. Sadly it took five nights, and very poor sleep, before the room air conditioning was eventually turned on. The pool was clean and tidy with always plenty of spare beds available. The food poolside was really good and it was lovely to sit by the pool enjoying our meal but unfortunately this was not available in the evenings. The hotel garden was lovely and full of lemon trees with the lemons being bigger than we get back home. The cleaning staff were really friendly and excellent at their job as everytime we went down for our evening meal they had been in and turned down the bed and left fresh towels in the bathroom. There is free wifi in all the bedrooms which is a bonus but the TV offers a poor choice of programmes. The shuttle bus ran all day into and out of Sorrento and took about 5 to 10 minutes, depending on the traffic. If you want to see Capri then we suggest you book through the hotel instead of the tour operator as it was cheaper and included a vegetarian sandwich and choices of drink on board. The boat seats up to 8 people and the staff are very knowledgeable and fun letting you guide the boat, and you can swim in the sea for a while too. Although we had a really good holiday, and visited many places, we did miss the beach and walking to other local shops and restaurants as it is rather perilous to walk on the road without pavements but the mini bus will drop you off elsewhere if you want. Sorrento town is wonderful and vibrant with lots of cafe's and restaurants to chose from. We loved La Grazier and had the best homemade pizza there. There is also the best ice cream parlour we have ever seen with around a hundred choices to chose from and visited by many celebs. The trip to Cassino is a very good trip although we didn't enjoy the museum as it wasn't in English and had to be interpreted but the War Cemetery is a must as is the Abbey. We also visited Herculaeum instead of Pompei and found it extremely interesting for a half day trip. Be warned that when you are picked up for trips you will be first on and then be on bus for the longest which can be tedious to say the least. The bus will pass by the hotel as there is nowhere to park to disembark on the right so it will drive on for another 10 minutes or so before turning round and coming back.

    « La dolce vita »

Stayed for the third time in this amazing place, because as reviewed before everything is top notch. The food, the rooms, the pool, the free shuttle bus, everything's great thanks to the professional staff always ready with a smile to make you feel at home. We don't mind to come back here because the bay of Naples has so much to offer and this hidden gem of peace and refinement is the best way to start your day or experience la dolce vita for a break. Grazie mille! Paul & Chris. Brussels

« So glad we chose La Solara »

Sorrento is a busy, noisy town, a lovely place to visit but coming back on the shuttle bus to the peace and tranquility of La Solara was sooo nice! As said in all the previous reviews the hotel was spotlessly clean, everyone very friendly and plenty of meal choices for me (a vegetarian). Our room looked out over the pool and we enjoyed our swims, we also liked the piano playing in the evenings, the chefs parade at the Sunday gala dinner and the fact that most of the guests were also couples of a similar age. Watching the sun go down from the restaurant every night was a relaxing, romantic experience - it was quite sad to be coming home at the end of our holiday!

We booked here for a week mid April. The hotel was indeed up to the wonderful reviews. We were given a room with a sea view which was superb & had all the facilities we needed. The staff were very friendly & went the extra mile to help. The meals were very good & the waiters were extremely helpful. We were blessed with sunny weather -not too hot just right at 20 to 24 degrees c.The shuttle bus was an extra facility which we used regularly to get into town.Overall the holiday was very good & excursions to Capri & the Amalfi coast were well worth doing.Calm seas for the boat trip round Capri. We look forward to coming again. So......as I pulled into La Solara my heart was ready to burst! I was coming home again... This being my third year in this hotel - why? that's the easiest question anyone can ask. The staff have become my friends at this hotel, as are some of the guests...you see people have been returning to La Solara for many years - that's a testament in itself...The service is excellent. The food is the best! The entertainment is great and very interactive. The hotel is spotless!...there's many hotels to choose from, but I just could not think of staying anywhere else! I can't wait to return again...ci vediamio a presto amici Sharon

    « Oh wow! »

I sure was delighted to stay at this Best Western Hotel. First I thought oh well a Best Western it shouldn't be to bad. Oh my was I wrong. This hotel brought the wow factor right out of my mouth. I do not know where to begin. It's location is on top of the hill over looking the Mediterean Sea. I had they said the best room in the place. We were at the top with a courtyard that was huge. What a place to share some wine.our room was huge with a suite, king bed and wonderful extras. I honestly was shocked. I have been all over the world and have stayed in pure luxury . This hotel was wonderful to say the least. The food here was great and the staff treated you like family. They were just super which made our stay even better. You really did not want to leave. The pool was big and really nice. Everything was so clean with attention to detail. Words do not do this hotel justice. If you are in or near Sorrento,Italy this Best Western is a must stay. Bw

« Holiday at Hotel La Solara, Sorrento »

Excellent hotel with everything we needed and more. All areas spotlessly clean. Service outstanding, food exceptional and plentiful. Sunday Gala dinner was superb and not to be missed. Excellent buffet breakfast, with choices of cooked or continental, or both if you prefer! We were very pleased that complimentary tea and coffee were supplied in our room, along with a mini bar and safe. We had a beautiful room with views over the Bay of Naples. Brilliant 25 metre heated swimming pool, plenty of sun loungers and lovely lunches/refreshments served by the pool. Well equipped exercise room to burn off the calories from all those lovely meals. Courtesy bus to take you into Sorrento on the hour from 9 am to 11 pm and return journey every 15 minutes passed the hour until 11.15 pm. Staff friendly, efficient and very helpful. Entertainment on 3 evenings during the week. Beach is just a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Wonderful stay, would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to tour this area.

« Exceptional service, beautiful destination. The best for gluten intolerant people. »

My husband and I visited Best Western hotel La Solara on a half board basis between 13-20 May 2016, my husband and I found it to be by far the best service we have ever received in any hotel or location we have ever visited. This was our first trip to the hotel and even when we arrived late at night, we were made to feel very welcome by the reception staff, we were provided with a meal despite the restaurant being closed, they were poised for our arrival and were on point with knowing my specific dietary needs, requiring gluten free food. I emailed a couple of days before our arrival and was promised that this would be in hand, it most certainly was, not once did I have to remind them about my requirements, I felt completely safe in their hands and very looked after. This appeared to be the case for other gluten intolerant guests but also for any guest staying there. I was initially concerned about how I would find the food in Italy being gluten intolerant but I was provided with everything I could ask for, pizza, pasta, bread, cereal and even gorgeous croissants. we cannot praise the staff enough for their kindness, hospitality, humour and professionalism, a completely unique and tailored service. The hotel is extremely clean and the food is spectacular. The pool is a very good size and has a lovely view. We loved the location, and although we didn't brave the walk on the road into sorrento, we took advantage of the prompt shuttle service. The hotel isn't central for those of you who want that but this is clearly mentioned when booking the hotel. We have nothing but praise for this beautiful hotel and destination. Thank you!!!!!! « Peaceful Haven »

Sorrento is a good base for sightseeing in both directions; going south along the Amalfi Coast to Positano, Amalfi and Ravello, going the other way to Pompeii, Herculaneum and Naples. Capri is just over the water. All of these places are reachable by public transport and the hire car we had taken was mostly left standing as traffic along the coastal roads is not for the faint-hearted. Public transport, though, is overcrowded so be prepared to be relaxed about squashing in and delays. After the sightseeing and "interesting" journeys, it was lovely to return to the peaceful haven of the La Solara. The hotel is on a hillside away from the hustle and bustle of the town with a beautiful view over the bay and is immaculately clean and well-maintained. There is an hourly shuttle bus service for the short trip into the town centre. As we were celebrating a special occasion, we had a junior suite and were able to relax on a double terrace as an alternative to using the very large pool and pool bar. The friendliness of all staff, from the reception, room maids, restaurant service staff and shuttle bus driver, was to a standard that is seldom found. We had booked B&B but returned most days to the hotel for an excellent dinner and the welcoming restaurant staff. Thanks to everyone at the hotel for the enjoyable holiday!

« Well worth the return visit. »

My wife and I recently paid a return visit to La Solara Hotel. We had previously been there two years ago and had found the hotel excellent in all aspects. This time we again found every aspect of the hotel to be superb.A notable feature was that the staff were the same as two years ago.We recognised them all.The food in the restaurant was memorable, particularly the pasta dishes. The wines were very good and reasonably priced. All staff made you feel welcome and would go out of their way to be helpful. If you go there make use of the courtesy bus into Sorrento.Once there(10 minutes) there are so many places to visit without the need of a company rep.Try Capri via the ferry or The Amalfi Coast using the local bus. Of course we shall be returning.

« Fabulous place to stay »

This hotel is the friendliest, cleanest and most welcoming we have ever stayed in. The location, just outside the main town, has superb views of the bay and mountains and with the complimentary bus service to town it is ideal. All the staff worked so hard to make the hotel a happy and comfortable place to stay. The food quality and quantity was five star. I requested a GF diet and I have never eaten such wonderful food made especially for me. The staff could not have been more attentive to my needs. A really first class place to stay - can't wait to return!

« What else can be said »

We returned just over a week ago from another wonderful week at the La Solara this being our fifth time at the hotel. As normal all the staff are friendly and helpful with a special thanks to Antonio,Massimo,Marcello and Mario the coach driver. The rooms are light and airy cleaned with a towel change daily and for those rooms at the front a lovely view over to Capri and Vesuvius. The outside pool is a good size well tended by Antonio with plenty of sunbeds and free pool towels and this area includes the outside snack bar for drinks and lunch. The hotel restautant is large enough to cover individulal room tables which are allocated for dinner with breakfast being sit where you want.Breakfast offers a wide choice of cereals, fresh fruit pastries and ham, cheeses with the hot selection of bacon scrambled egg daily and a changeable option of sausages, mushrooms and tomatoes. For dinner it is like being in an a la carte restaurant with three/four options on each course and a salad buffet to start and it is waiter service. The hotel offers an hourly mini bus service to Sorrento leaving on the hour and returning on the quarter and operates from 07.50 until 23.15.The walk into town is about 3 kms and whilst for most part there is no pavement we have done this many times during our stays. There is only one problem with the hotel in that it is very difficult not to keep going back which we will do as we feel we are treated as family by the staff which we have not experienced anywhere else.

« Comfortable Hotel with all we needed »

We booked independently for 7 nights B&B. Arrived at about 0300! Made welcome. Had all the facilities we needed. Excellent pool at a nice temperature for early May. Bar lunch by the pool on first day was tasty. We had a hire car so that we could be independent so only ate breakfast where there was a wide choice. The tea/coffee etc was self-served from machines - the coffee was nowhere near the usual Italian standard and tasted very bitter: we suspected that was caused by the water being too hot. But that is a minor quibble. Also, although we had no trouble, there are not many parking spaces at the hotel and things might be different at other times. Our room was overlooking the pool 4th floor. No sea view but quiet and looking onto a green hillside with olives etc. The room was kept immaculate by the staff. Reception staff very helpful.

    « Wonderful Hotel »

This hotel has spectacular view over the bay, and over to Vesuvius. The staff was extremely friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is also spotlessly clean, and the restaurant food is very good. The hotel minibus left at exactly on the hour, every hour, was never late, the same for the return journey too. The journey into town was only about 7 to 8 minutes, so don't be put off at the idea of having to get the bus. We would definitely recommend this hotel, it was faultless!

Stayed here recently for a week for our honeymoon, Greeted by friendly welcoming staff, was shown around and checked in. Could not fault a thing, room was clean and spacious with a large balcony and good views, staff were more than helpful and very friendly, food was top quality, would highly recommend this hotel to anyone considering a holiday in Sorrento.

    « Very Relaxing »

We were looking for a relaxing "get-a-way" for a couple of days and La Solara gave us that. The view of the sea from our balcony was amazing. Our room was spacious and well decorated. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We attended the Grand Dinner on Sunday evening. The food was delicious and it was a great experience. A breakfast buffet was also included each day. It was very relaxing to swim in the heated pool. We also enjoyed a pizza lunch on the patio by the pool. This was a great place to stay and "recharge!"

    « A week in Sorrento »

A really great hotel and excellent staff! Food was really good always fresh. Short hop to town on courtesy minibus. Staff were always friendly and courteous and they were great with the kids. I was surprised to see negative reviews for the same week we were there as they were not fair or correct.

    « Fabulous stay »

Second time in 2 years at the hotel. I'll keep it short, such a lovely hotel. All the staff work incredibly hard and are an absolute credit to their manager from the ladies who keep the rooms spotless, bar staff, pool staff, really too many to mention. The food is fabulous, love the gala evening a chance to thank the chefs for their amazing food! Great shuttle bus, fab location for us lovely and quiet at night. If you travel with Thompsons which we did the first time excursions are much better and cheaper if you book with the hotel or in Sorrento. We booked the boat trip visited Positano and Amalfi picked up at 9.30 and arrived back at 6.30pm for £75 pp worth every penny. Hope to return very soon won't consider any other hotel and my message to the manager is you should be very proud of your staff they are a credit to you! Oh and if you leave a tip as we did we left it in an envelope with staff at reception hoping at the end of the season it would be shared equally among all of them.

    « WOW »

My title says it all. WOW. Very hard to find fault with this hotel, faultlessly clean, friendly and attentive staff, rooms lovely with fridge kettle and hairdryer provided, location beautiful, food amazing. What more could you want from a week away.

« Great staff, great breakfast »

We booked 9 rooms for a family trip and stayed there 4 nights. Hotel is in great location, 7 minutes drive to Sorrento center, with free shuttles. Staff is more than friendly, always willing to help and solve issues (if there are any). Breakfast is awesome. Rooms were spacious and comfort with small terrace. Great place for Sorrento and Amalfi coast.

« Just as every hotel should be. »

I am at a loss to understand the few negative reviews for La Solara. In my view, this is an outstanding example of how a hotel should be run. The service is exemplary and all staff are helpful, unobtrusive and friendly. We are 'foodies'! We love Italian cuisine and my husband loves to cook Italian dishes. We had planned to have a meal or two in the town but the food here in the hotel is so very good, so well prepared and the choice of dishes so ample, that we have eaten every night in the hotel. We would unlikely find food of this calibre in downtown Sorrento. There is a great choice for breakfast. I would have thought all tastes were catered for. The coffee is delicious. We have a lovely room on the fifth floor with a huge balcony - an unexpected upgrade from the double room with seaview we had booked. The room has everything you would to expect to find in a 4* hotel. The hotel is 3km outside the town and the hotel bus leaves on the hour all day long until 11pm. The driver is friendly and very obliging. (When you get off the bus in town, go down the steps beside where the bus stops and this takes you directly to the main square). Lots of hotels provide a bus service for their guests because there are lots of hotels situated outside Sorrento. The roads are narrow and very few people walk on them. The Solara Hotel bus gives you the option of the activity of the town or the more sedate tranquility of the hotel and its magnificent pool. Our holiday ends in two days time and we will regret leaving here. We will miss the quiet professionalism and friendliness of the hardworking staff. We will miss the beautiful view from our balcony and lastly, we will miss the superb dinners. Back to the diet unfortunately when we get home !! Thank you to all the staff who show what good teamwork is at its best.

    « Superb hotel »

This hotel sets itself very high standards in all departments and during our stay (April/May 2016) it achieved them all. We were particularly impressed with its cleanliness and high class, restaurant style evening meals. Situated on a hill above the Sorrento - Amalfi road, it provides outstanding views of Capri and the Bay of Naples with glorious sunsets.

« Awkward location and poor food, despite rave reviews. »

This hotel was strongly recommend on the basis of its food and location by previous reviews on trip advisor. How wrong they were! It's situation almost 2 miles from Sorrento centre is accurately described in the Thompson blurb and the views across to Ischia especially in evening light are wonderful, though there are no views across to Vesuvius from the hotel as suggested by the Thompson rep! I would strongly advise against walking the twisting road into the centre, as there are no continuous footpaths and the locals drive like lunatics. Trips to town are therefore governed by the timing of the hotel courtesy bus, leaving on the hour and returning at quarter past the hour with the last pick up at 11.15pm. Reliance on this bus can prove problematic and its timing has to be taken into account when planning trips from the centre by boat to Capri and Amalfi and by train to Pompeii and Herculaneum and when planning a late night out in the centre. A taxi back to the hotel will set you back an eye watering €30 so beware. Also note that the organised trips on offer are excessively expensive when compared with what you can arrange for yourself, the train to Herculaneum costing $2.70 one way. Also the the Thomson free walking tour of Sorrento is an absolute joke, the unsuspecting holiday makers being headed into an ice cream shop after a 5 minute walk and then into a local bar after a further 5. The hotel itself is clean bright and comfortable and the rooms are a reasonable size and likewise clean and well appointed. We chose 306, which had a large terrace which was in retrospect money thrown away, as the balconies on cheaper rooms were more than adequate. This came furnished with a couple of folding sun loungers, a small table and two chairs. The sun loungers are lethal if not deployed correctly as my wife found to her cost. She sustained severe cuts and bruises to the face and head which are yet to heal. The danger of these contraptions should not be underestimated, as blood literally poured from her where teeth had burst her mouth with the canopy also cutting her face below her lower lip. Staff kindly supplied ice to mitigate swelling and were courteous in their enquiries as to her condition, though there were no apologies forthcoming from the management who made light of an incident which blighted 5 out of the 7 days of our holiday. However despite this, I have to compliment the staff in general, as they were courteous, polite and helpful. As for food, the quality was to say the least, somewhat less than anticipated. The breakfast selection was the usual hotel fare of cereals, fruits cold meats and cakes with little rotation in the hot food available, the staple being, very poorly produced scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage. The evening meals were even worse, with the presentation and production being for us, at an all time low. So much so that on perusing the published menu each evening, we partook of only 3 meals, though I should point out, that we were so traumatised by my wife's injuries, we were unable to partake of food at all on that particular evening. The worst of these meals was by far an absolutely appalling deep fried plaice and the comparative best, being a large slice of grilled salmon steak. In conclusion, we were greatly disappointed in this hotel, in Best Western and in Thomson holidays.

« Great hotel and staff »

We visited La Solara 2 years ago and this is the first time we have been back to the same hotel twice, we had a great time on our last visit and hoped this visit would be equally as good and we were not disappointed. The staff are a credit to the hotel, they work very hard to ensure you have a relaxing time and could not do enough for us whether this is round the pool, in the restaurant or servicing the room. The food was still as good as our last visit, regional and freshly cooked especially the Risotto's which need special mention, in fact I can't fault the food really other than to say I generally ate too much! The dining room had also been re decorated since our last visit giving it a more contemporary look. We had a room on the 4th floor which had a terrace and sun beds which was very nice for afternoon sun and enjoying a glass of wine. A nice touch was the gift of a picture and some olive oil left in the room for us and since our last visit the WiFi has improved greatly. We will definitely go back again as we were both very sad to leave, thanks to all at La Solara.

    « A little piece of Paradise »

I have to say that I am almost reluctant to share my views about this hotel - not because of any fault with it - but because it was so damned good and it may make booking it again more difficult! However, putting aside this selfish thought, I can only praise the hotel, its exemplary staff and location to the highest level. My wife and I secured a late booking for this hotel via Thomson and from the get-go it was a wonderful experience. Although we could not check into our rooms immediately (we arrived early afternoon) there was a complimentary drink for us in the very impressive and well-appointed lounge area. Staff were very gracious and after checking in help was available to take luggage to our room - which was on the top floor. The room itself was extremely well-appointed too, spacious and spotlessly clean. Our balcony was huge and attracted the sun most of the day. There were sun-loungers as well as a table and chairs. The view looked out over the Bay of Naples. As it was early-to-mid April there was no air conditioning switched on but once we rang through to reception they delivered a fan for our use. Our 'package' included half-board - which we found was absolutely excellent. The choice of food, its presentation and variety was first class - and there was plenty of it, too. Naturally, any drinks ordered had to be paid for (you signed for it and paid at the end of your stay) but actually the wines - many of them local - were reasonably priced and, if you happened to leave some, the staff kept it for the following evening. The waiting staff (like everyone else employed by the hotel) were exceedingly welcoming, friendly but also completely professional. On a couple of occasions, we ate by the pool at lunch-time and again, while of a very high standard, this tended to prove too much for us (even though my wife and I often shared a dish), especially with the prospect of a three-course meal (four if you counted the salad bar) in the evening. Incidentally, there was more formal evening every Sunday (people got dressed up) and as well as a piano player in the restaurant area playing quite unobtrusively while you ate, there was also a cabaret afterwards in the lounge. All very pleasant and civilised! We decided against doing any of the Thomson excursions (for a variety of reasons but mainly because they were costly) and simply asked at the desk about trips to Positano, Amalfi and Revello. We booked a trip that cost a third less than Thomson's own offering - and the mini-bus picked us up at the hotel and dropped us off early evening. We also took the train to Herculaneum - though the rep had advised against this because of the risk of pick-pockets.. Truthfully, it was absolutely fine as long as you took sensible precautions and were vigilant, as you would be anywhere else. One of the real benefits of being in this hotel (which was situated about 3km outside of Sorrrento) was the free hourly mini-bus service to and from the hotel to Sorrento. Once again the driver was extremely accommodating and we chose to tip him each time as it was a most valuable service. In summary, this hotel is exceptionally good - beautifully maintained but also run by some extremely professional and helpful staff (nothing was too much trouble for them). We would definitely go back again and, judging by the comments of others we spoke with, many people have done just that. The only caveat I would mention is that as it is on a hill, those with mobility issues or who are elderly (I fit into both categories!) may struggle a little on leaving the coach on arrival. However, there is a lift in the actual building. Top marks all round.

    « Outstanding Service »

Great location with regular free shuttle bus to centre and good facilities, pool etc but it is the service and staff that make this place. Nothing is too much trouble. Friendly attentive and professional staff who take great pride in their work. An excellent stay

« Fantastic Hotel and Amazing staff »

What a lovely hotel and staff are fantastic they go the extra mile and do everything they can to help! The hotel is cheerful and staff too. In a perfect setting away from centre with views that are stunning. A courtesy bus operates every hour and is a great idea just 10 mins to centre of Sorrento. Me and my wife celebrated our wedding anniversary and were given a bottle of prosecco I had to drink as wife pregnant :) but was a lovely thought. They helped me book a restaurant overlooking the sea even though it was fully booked. I want to thank all the best western staff at this hotel you don't get enough credit. The saying "treat people as how you would like to be treated yourself " well you are well above this and are delivering 5 star service . Thank you and we hope you come back me , my wife and bambino. Special thanks to Antonio on reception and the bus driver Mario. Grazie Mr and Mrs Phillips

« La Solara - one of the best »

Returned to La Solara for the week 18-25 April following a very good holiday here last year. The service was, once again excellent, reception, dining room staff friendly, knowledgeable , helpful and unfailingly courteous. The food is great with the recommended regional special dishes better than many of the restaurants in Sorrento I booked a sea view room and while the terrace was a bit windy at times the view across the Bay of Naples is wonderful particularly when the sun is going down. The complementary bottle of wine, free wi-fi in the room all add to the experience. Although the hotel is positioned outside Sorrento the free hourly bus shuttle service conveniently drops you outside and picks you up close to the railway and bus terminals so that it's an easy excursion to Pompeii, Herculeum or further afield, Naples. Overall, I can't recommend this hotel too highly, neither I suspect would the numerous other guests who were returning for their second or third visits. Fabulous!

« Always a delight to stay here »

Returned from a holiday here almost a week ago. We've stayed at La Solara several times now and come back because you are always made so welcome and the standard of service is so high. In particular we appreciate the excellent food and the attentiveness of the restaurant staff, led by Marcello and Nello. We like to enjoy the food without being rushed and we appreciate the waiter service and allocated table for the week. All the hotel staff go out of their way to be helpful - the reception staff, maids, and the bus driver Mario who operates the hourly shuttle bus into Sorrento. The hotel location apparently does not suit some reviewers but in our view it is far quieter and prettier than being in Sorrento itself which can be noisy. The shuttle bus service is completely reliable and easy to use. It leaves you, and picks up again, a short walk away from the Circumvesuviana station and buses, and not far from Piazza Tasso and the shops. Our room had a sea view and a terrace, for which you pay a supplement but it is worth it to have the additional space outside (and view). The room was spacious and spotless, as were all public areas of the hotel. The only disappointment was that we hadn't booked a second week! Thanks again to everyone at La Solara and we'll definitely be back.

    « Mediterranean experience »

Very impressed with this spotlessly clean and well managed hotel, staff were so friendly, helpful and gave a personal touch. Didn't expect to get 'turned down service' - was a lovely surprise! Would stay here again, perfect location for exploring local villages and fishing coves, walks, public paths in places, walking on the main road not as daunting as initially thought. Very reliable & free hotel bus shuttle hourly to/from Sorrento was brilliant - this means we were away from the noise and bustle of the city in just 10mins. Didn't get to use the lovely pool or fitness centre as were were out exploring the area.

    « A Gem! »

Fabulous hotel in a beautiful location, stunning views. Hotel was very clean, all of the staff friendly and very helpful. Our room was well equipped, comfortable and complimented by a balcony with lovely views across to Capri, Naples and Vesuvius. Varied and very good selection at the buffet breakfast and the evening menu was excellent - as was the choice of wines, several locally produced. I would love to revisit the area and would have no qualms at staying here again. Highly recommended.

« Relaxing little gem - travelled with baby »

Just returned from a week's holiday at La Solera. Don't be put off by Best Western Hotel brand. This is a lovely, traditional hotel which puts it's guests first. The food was great, varied with excellent service to suit. Would recommend half board. We travelled with a 9 month old baby. The staff were always very accommodating when we needed to be flexible and even settled the baby on occasion if our meal was being interrupted. They went the extra mile and made us feel completely welcome and relaxed. Thanks again to all the staff for a lovely holiday!

    « Fantastic hotel »

We have just returned from a weeks holiday here and would rate this hotel as excellent. The staff are so helpful and very friendly. The waiter service at dinner makes a wonderful change from the buffet food served at so many other hotels. The menu changed daily and the food was really good. The hotel rooms and public areas are kept extremely clean. Our front facing room was a good size and included a safe, hairdryer, fridge and kettle. We also had a balcony with a small table, two chairs and two deckchairs. The shuttle bus was an added bonus and made getting to and from Sorrento town so easy. Our thanks to all the staff who made our holiday so enjoyable.

This hotel is well worth a stay. the rooms and hotel is very clean and tidy. the food is excellent and a varied choice. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The location is good being out from the main centre but with the free courtesy mini bus is only minutes away. The only downside is that the evening entertainment is lacking at the hotel but the mini bus in to Sorrento operates until 11pm.

    « Wonderful hotel »

We chose this hotel for the location, the views and the star rating. However, what a find. The hotel is georgious. It was immaculately clean and fresh. Our room had a balcony which overlooked the sea and beyond with lovely sunsets. All of the staff should be commended on their hospitality. Despite the very long hours they worked everybody gave service with a smile, they came across as a very close and happy team. The food and the choices offered were excellent and the restaurant staff gave marvellous service both in the restaurant and at the pool bar. Our room was kept clean and fresh every day and the housekeeping girls were unobtrusive. We would definitely recommend this hotel and we will stay at hotels in the Best Western group again. Thank you for a great holiday!

We stayed here for a week in April.what a lovely hotel spotless. The room was spacious and a big balcony with great view's. The food was excellent with lots of choice. Peroni was €5 or €12 for a bottle of wine.staff were very friendly and very helpful. The shuttle bus into town was very good and always on time.we did trips to the almafi coast,Pompeii, Capri .I would get a small boat to Capri which takes you around the island before you return as the ferry doesn't do this.In our opinion if you are looking for somewhere to stay in Sorrento this is the place to stay we could not find a fault and are looking to go back next year

    « Fantastic hotel »

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at La Solara and it was fantastic. The rooms were very clean and well serviced every day. The food was superb, especially the Gala Dinner which is served every Sunday - don't think we've ever eaten so much! The children were well catered for and the staff, especially Nello, were extremely good. Although it was April, and the weather wasn't quite as good as expected, we did use the pool which was heated and empty! It felt like our own private pool. The shuttle bus into and back from Sorrento was very prompt and the driver was lovely - our grandson lost one of his games out of his DS and we looked everywhere for it to no avail, but on our return, later in the day, the driver had managed to find it which must have meant dismantling the seat - way beyond the call of duty! We will certainly be returning to the hotel in the future and would have no problem recommending it to friends.

« Super hotel, beautiful area »

We booked with Thomson and flew from East Midlands. When we reached the hotel (quite early) we were given complimentary drinks and snacks as the room wasn't ready. We were directed to the pool bar where drinks and light meals were available. There were plenty of seats both under a sunshade and in the open by the pool. We had a delicious salad. The hotel is 3K from Sorrento and we would not have walked along the road into town as it was quite busy and narrow with no pavement and a wall each side. However the courtesy bus ran regularly and took about 10 minutes to get into town. It was possible to cross the road in front of the hotel and walk to a small beach. The hotel itself is perched above the road and we weren't aware of much road noise. Our room was spotlessly clean and comfortable, with a desk, chairs, wardrobe, drawers and a safe. We had thought from reading the brochure that there would be a bath in the ensuite but there was just a shower; however we should have checked this when we booked. We were staying half board with a buffet breakfast with plenty of choice and waiter service for evening meals (four courses including a salad buffet and a choice of at least 4 starters, main courses and desserts.) We found the food delicious and ample quantities. We liked the fact that dining was from 6.45pm as we do not like to eat late in the evening. The waiters were very helpful and friendly without too much fussing. There was a large and comfortable bar/ lounge area with singers a few times a week and also a large TV which did show a lot of sport but without too much volume! The bar staff were very friendly and efficient. The courtesy bus ran into Sorrento promptly every hour, on the hour with a return 15 minutes later. Mario was a very good driver and there was always room on the bus. My husband used the small gym a few times during our stay and especially enjoyed swimming in the lovely pool. Pool towels were freely available. Just beyond the pool bar there was a small garden with seats and table tennis and table football; it was edged with lemon trees. The Thomson rep, Keeley, was lovely; she always called out a friendly greeting and was very helpful with any queries as were the reception staff. We took excursions to Pompeii, Vesuvius and along the Amalfi Coast which is spectacular. We also travelled independently to Capri and inland from Sorrento on a local bus. We found the local people very helpful. If we return to Sorrento we would definitely stay at the Best Western La Solara again. We would probably consider upgrading to a room with a sea view with a bath.

    « Nice hotel »

We have recently returned from a 5 day break in Sorrento. Having heard rave reviews we had high expectations so when a bargain break became available we booked up. A rating of 5 on trip advisor is rare and we were expecting a treat. Firstly the weather wasn't brilliant with the week before being much better so I don't know whether this affected our views. The hotel is set into the hillside outside of Sorrento and too far to walk to but this wasn't a problem due to the courtesy bus. Every hour a drop and collection. The hotel is very traditional and felt a bit like visiting your grandparents- quite old fashioned, spotlessly clean and nothing too much trouble. To improve the holiday experience I would suggest the beds or mattresses be replaced along with the pillows which were both hard and quite uncomfortable. As far as food is concerned there was ample choice for both breakfast and evening meal. The staff were always keen to help and please in any way they could.

We came across this jewel while driving. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Facilities in the hotel include an enormous pool, a fitness centre and a lovely lobby and terrace. There is a free shuttle to the town centre and back which saves trying to find the elusive parking spot. The rooms are spacious and each has a terrace with a view

    « Number 1 »

Number one - if you like your Italian food as we do, all you really need to know about this Hotel is the superb, varied and plentiful food on offer here. We just could not believe how good it was. This was no basic hotel dining experience where at the end of a week or so everything seems to taste the same, but more Italian fine dining at its best. Our expectations were not too great to be honest because last year we had stayed at another Thomson hotel in Sorrento which shall remain nameless but has the same name as a brand of Margarine sold in the UK. Well, at Hotel Margarine the food on offer was obviously prepared to a budget. I sometimes thought the waiters were embarrassed having to serve it to us. As for other aspects of the service offered by this hotel; what can one say? The waiters were a friendly helpful bunch like most Italian waiters. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. The minibus shuttle service on the hour to the centre - less than 10 minutes, ran faultlessly. To find any fault really with this excellent hotel would only be nit picking and it would take an awful amount of nit picking for us to not want to return here again to sample the delicious Italian fare on offer, and risk going to a Hotel Margarine again!

« Fantastic hotel, brilliant views and location and incredibly helpful staff »

Our family of four stayed here as part of a larger party of family. Most of the hotel guests were adults when we stayed but the children had a brilliant time and loved the large clean pool and children's pool. The hotel is spotlessly clean with a constant supply of fresh towels etc. The food is fantastic, we enjoyed every course of every evening meal, always great choices and variety and the children were made different meals if they wanted. Breakfast also has a great range of choices. The hotel has a fantastic peaceful location with amazing views out to sea. The hourly shuttle bus to and from the hotel into Sorrento centre was completely reliable. The staff were so friendly, happy and attentive we felt very well looked after and could not have asked for better service. All of the guests seemed so happy with their stay and certainly everyone in our party was very impressed with the hotel.

    « Excellent Hotel »

A fantastic hotel with excellent staff. We stayed in the first week of April. With one of our party a coeliac needing a gluten free diet, we booked here partly on the strength of them advertising gluten free meals. We were not disappointed, the dining staff were very attentive to our needs and would explain the gluten free options at the evening meal. In fact all of the staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. They should be commended, as should you, Mr Di Maio, for running a brilliant hotel. We had a very clean room which overlooked the sea and the Isle of Capri from the balcony. There was a complimentary bottle of red wine on arrival. There are also complimentary tea and coffee making facilities in the room and a free safety deposit box (safe). Fresh linen and towels were provided daily and bathroom floor cleaned, the beds turned down in the evening and a chocolate left for each of us. The room staff were faultless. The shuttle bus into town was always on time. The pool area was clean with staff always in attendance. When leaving a gratuity, don't forget all those who labour unseen. For myself, this holiday was one of the best I have ever had and the La Solara played a large part. For those thinking these reviews are too good to be true, I can only say that I could not find anything that a reasonable person would have cause to complain about. I look forward to staying here again. La ringrazio molto a tutti a La Solara.

« Excellent Hotel. Confirms all of the good reviews on Tripadvisor, and chosen accordingly. »

We asked for a sea facing room which proved to be ideal. You are above and set back from the road in front, so it is not a disturbance. You have sun from late morning on the terrace, and the sunset over Ischia is wonderful. Agree with other reviews that the people working at the hotel are friendly and informative. Great location as is quiet and ten minutes or so outside of Sorrento, but has an hourly shuttle bus that will also drop you off halfway to Sorrento for a scenic downhill walk. The walking around the hotel is great, either down to Puolo, a small beach resort or to the back of the hotel through rural roads and pathways through lemon and olive groves. There is a large pool, heated to 24 degrees when we were there, and the food is excellent with plenty of choice. Good wifi reception in the room and on our terrace. Stayed for a week but could have stayed much longer. Also a thank you to Salvatore for excellent Italian language lessons twice a week. Cannot find any fault with the hotel and hope to return.

« VIP treatment at La Solara. »

Well, where should i start. Firstly i suppose If you're searching for a great hotel with airy spotless rooms, friendly hard working staff producing fab food with a hands on waiter service giving you the impression you've just won the lottery, look no futher, this is the place you're looking for. We booked(travelling as a couple)last minute after reading just some of this hotel's excellent reviews. We're quite fussy about almost everything generally and usually read and read AND READ reviews and never go anywhere as doubt creeps in eventually putting us off going anywhere! However i'm SO pleased with our stay here i don't know where to start. The main concerns are usually cleanliness and food. Our room was large and airy with a sea view over Capri(1st floor). It felt pretty much like home from the first minute as we stood on the spotless tiled floor checking the room out from top to bottom. The walls were spotless(no grubby marks), adorned with beautiful seaside pictures of Sorrento and of course a large flat screen tv. The bed and furniture were immaculately clean and looked "as new". A mini bar fridge was stacked with drinks etc and after a quick poke around in a cupboard we found a brand new kettle ! Fab, we smiled at eachother. The bathroom was as clean as a new pin and fitted out to a very high standard. Everything was in place, soaps, towels, beakers, all the bits and bobs to make us feel welcome and at home . We could only give the room and it's sometimes twice daily service clean 10/10 , super. We stayed half board and loved the varied buffet breakfast. SO MUCH to chose from, we could hardly sleep thinking what we'd have the next morning. It ranged from egg and bacon to chocolate doughnuts! I personally love my coffee / croissantes and wasn't disappointed. Great coffee, yummy. The seating was "where you fancied" so sometimes we sat by a window and looked over The Bay of Naples. A waiter serviced evening meal showed this hotel as our perfect choice as quality three and four coursed meals made us feel like VIP's. The cuisine was of a high standard bringing smiles to our faces every evening. The waiters weaved through the tabled dining area tirlessly serving drinks and food.(I would just like to add the drinks are very reasonable-12 euro for a bottle of white wine/ 2.5 euro for 1 litre of water) We had already visited Sorrento in the past so our trip was really just a break away to relax without all the mad sightseeing element. We spent quite a bit of time in the sun beside the pool enjoying the waiter service of course. The pool area was immaculate and so well maintained with a member of staff cleaning and tidying at all times. A free bus shuttle left the hotel hourly(always on time too) for Sorrento taking approx 6/7 mins. We would definitely stay here again and we really would like to take this opportunity to thank ALL the hard working staff who made our stay so special. They worked relentlessly missing not the slightest of details. Thankyou to our chambermaid who left our room so clean and tidy every day. To the staff at the reception, so helpfull and friendly and the waiters who scivvied to our every request. Merci, a bientôt La Solara. Sharon / James

    « Sorrento's best! »

We were greeted by the wonderful Bruno who saw to our luggage. 'Pepe' (Giuseppe) welcomed us to the bar lounge with drinks & snacks, whilst we waited for our check-in at 4 pm. Our rooms were ready an hour before so we checked in early. The standard room we were booked in with Thomsons was wonderful with twin beds, wardrobe & chest of drawers. There is a flat screen tv, free wifi, tea/coffee making making facilities & minibar. The ensuite consisted of shower over a bath, a toilet, bidet & sink. The rooms were cleaned daily with fresh lovely laundered towels & toiletries. In the evening, the beds were turned down & a chocolate left with a goodnight wish. Breakfast is self service with cereals, toastmaker, fruit, yoghurt, bread; cooked items included boiled eggs or scrambled, bacon & small sausages. There was also fruit juice, a coffe machine which all varieties of coffee, as well as hot water for the different teas on offer. They also cater for dietary requirements should you need them - just let them know. Evening meal is waiter service for the Starter, Mains & desserts. The menu is changed daily with many choices including fish, meat or vegetarian. Laid out is a wide choice of Antipasti to pick & choose from. Drinks ordered are put on your room bill. Sunday was the 'Gala Dinner' with set menu & a pianist to entertain us on the grand piano. We meet the wonderful chefs as Marcello (who manages the restaurant) introduces them by name. The food is made of the region's fresh ingredients with dishes to suit every taste, or the chef could cook something if you ask & they have the available ingredients. Marcello; Antonio, Frederico, Nello, Nicola & all other staff were the best. Nello taught me & my husband some Italian to add to our minimal vocabulary as he served us - he was such a delight & complimenting me on my pronunciation! The hotel also has a heated outdoor pool with plenty of sunloungers, and a fitness suite. Mario drives the complimentary shuttle bus hourly into Sorrento town centre and returns. His driving was excellent on the narrow roads. Thanks also to Reception including Fabio & Salvatore who were very helpful & friendly. We will definitely return some day to this fine family run hotel -you certainly all made us feel like part of your family. You already hold a place in my heart! Mille gracie!! « Super Spring break! »

Have just returned from a really enjoyable week at Hotel La Solara. Blessed with lovely warm and sunny weather, we had a sea view room with an enormous terrace and were able to enjoy the large heated swimming pool almost daily, where the bar staff work hard to provide drinks and snacks, and clean towels. This is a lovely hotel - the staff are so friendly and helpful, the food is good, rooms are spacious and clean and the sea view over Capri is wonderful. My only reservation in recommending it, is that it is set on a busy road with no pavements, and is a long way from anywhere, including the small bay that can be seen from the front of the hotel. The hotel does provide a shuttle service into Sorrento - about 10mins ride away, which runs from early morning until late at night, but personally I missed a stroll after dinner..... Still, this is a great base for exploring the Amalfi Coast and the Bay of Naples area, and being quiet at night (if you ignore the owls hooting and the early morning cockerel crowing) you are well rested each night, ready for the next day's adventures.

« 2nd visit. Certainly not the last »

Do not normally go back to a hotel once visited but made an exception for the La Solara and we were not disappointed. ALL the Staff make you feel welcome and special and are a credit to the La Solara As before the food was plentiful, varied and excellent, The whole of the hotel, swimming pool area and grounds are kept immaculate. Although a little outside the town, the shuttle bus makes it very easy to commute and Mario the driver was always on time. Thanks Hotel La Solara for making this another special holiday. PS Thanks for the Birthday Cake.

    « Fantastic stay! »

From the moment we arrived all the staff were friendly and welcoming. They were particularly good with the children and very accommodating in terms of food etc. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the pool area was lovely. We were lucky enough to enjoy warm weather and went in the heated pool everyday. The food was excellent and location beautiful. We will definitely be returning! Thank you from the Yeomans and Rowntree families

    « Excellent Family Holiday »

Thanks to all the staff for a great family holiday! We were travelling as a family of 4 - 2 adults and 13yr old and 10yr old. They happily fulfilled our request to have 2 rooms next door to each other, and gave us 2 together at the end of corridor which was ideal, rooms were spotless. We had booked half board through thomsons and although we arrived very late and has missed dinner we were given a lovely salad and cake when we arrived. Breakfasts were great. Meals were lovely - 4 courses! - salad bar, first course, second course and dessert! - menu was varied and different everyday, let us get a taste of proper Italian food - all delicious. Gala dinner was great. Just to give an idea of drinks prices - large bottle of water 2.50euro, coke 3euros, bottle of wine 12-16euros. Pool was ideal, really good size and lovely that it was heated, plenty of space and lots of sun loungers. Also easy to order drinks or snacks by the pool when weather was warm. We often used the bus into Sorrento, it ran every hour and was always on time. We did a day trip to Capri on the ferry. Also booked a day trip to Pompeii and Vesuvius. Would love to visit again. A big thank you to all the staff for their hard work in making our holiday so enjoyable. All staff obviously take pride in what they do and work very very hard. THANK YOU

    « 2nd brilliant experience »

There is nothing I would criticize this hotel for. It is unfortunate that the Best Western staff vote only applies to individuals who made the stay greater and not the complete staff because they were all friendly, efficient and made a complete team.

« Fabulous hotel, staff, food and location. »

We had an amazing week exploring Sorrento with the La Solara Hotel making a great base. The hourly shuttle bus into Sorrento was always on time with a smiling driver Mario always ready to help. Our room was one with a great sea view and a large balcony you could have had a party on! The food was really good with variety and taste in abundance and we ate far too much! Everyone without exception was so friendly and helpful and we will certainly return to this hotel again. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Thank you so much for a fantastic stay at your hotel. Rooms were perfect, food great and we were looked after so well by your very hard-working and dedicated staff. I have recommended your hotel to all our friends here in the UK.

    « Fantastico »

We have just returned from a 3 day break here and it was great. I highly recommend it. The room was perfect and we were even greeted by a complimentary bottle of wine. The hotel is spotless and all the staff are very polite and attentive. The pool is heated during April so it was very pleasant. Our room at the side of the hotel had a balcony with a sea view. We ate at the restaurant on the Saturday and the food was very nice. When you order drinks it is added to your room bill so no need to carry cash. We took the courtesy shuttle bus into Sorrento town a couple of times. We were also greeted by a small chocolate each on the bedside when we got back after tea which was very nice. There is a minibar in the fridge but we didn't use it. Hairdryer in the bathroom. Tea and coffee in the room and a safe. We would love to go back again in the future.

Nothing we could fault. Can absolutely echo the comments in other five star reviews. Thanks to all the staff especially the restaurant manager (Marcelo?) who led his team from the front and Antonio at front house reception. Can not wait to return. Lynne and Owen

« Superb hotel, highly recommended! »

Booked through Thomson as unable to book direct, I chose this hotel based on Tripadvisor ratings....and was not disappointed. The weather was warm but not hot yet we swam every day in the heated pool which was immaculate. The food was local and good - beware very large portions. The wonderful restaurant staff were truly child-friendly and extremely accommodating. Thank you particularly to Nello?? for his kindness and helpfulness. Thoughtful details enhanced the stay further, from welcome drinks to packed breakfast at departure. Clean, roomy, friendly, warm, well located (don't miss the short walk to local Roman ruin/geocache)! Highly recommended 10/10 for us. The Morgans

    « A fantastic hotel »

We spent the Easter week at La Solara with our family. We arrived on Good Friday the first week of the season. The hotel was again everything we wished for. The staff are so attentive and helpful, food is still brilliant and the restaurant and lounge look even better with the contemporary makeover. The position of the hotel just outside the hustle and bustle of Sorrento town is ideal with the very regular hotel shuttle bus making it easy to get to the centre of Sorrento. They have got it just right. Keep doing what you do so well! We will be back for our third visit with no doubt!

    « Wonderful once again! »

Family holiday for two weeks over Easter. Comfortable clean rooms - linen changed daily and room cleaned thoroughly every day, turn down service and chocolate every evening! Tea and coffee making facilities in room. The restaurant serves a buffet breakfast with every taste catered for and in the evening the the menu is amazing!. The staff at the hotel are the most friendly and helpful I have ever come across - everyone from the front desk, restaurant, bar, maids, pool and the bus driver, could not have been more attentive. Special thanks to Massimo, Marcello, Nello and Joanna for making our stay so memorable. The pool is beautiful with amazing views, loads of sunbeds. There is a bus service into Sorrento (10min. drive} which runs every hour and drops off at the station - making it ideal for those who wish to explore on their own. We will definitely be back!

    « Superb »

What a great hotel, very friendly obliging staff, good food comfortable rooms and a decent size pool (23 x 12 metres ) From being met off the transfer coach by a porter with a luggage trolley , to the service from all the staff from the pool attendant to the manager it couldn't be faulted. The only criticism is that the air conditioning wasn't working (too early in the season), but they did supply us with a portable unit. A nice variety of food for all meals , and if you are half board really easy to swap between dinner and lunch . No hesitation in recommending this hotel for a great holiday , the only proviso is that there are stairs to the dining room and pool, so if you are restricted in your mobility it would be challenging.

    « Fabulous Italian Welcome »

How proud the management should be of the wonderful staff that make this hotel such a pleasant and relaxing environment. The hotel itself is kept to an extremely high standard in terms of cleanliness in both the guest rooms and communal areas, every area is well maintained and comfortable. We stayed the first week in April and the huge pool was comfortably warm with plenty of sunbeds and complimentary towels. All the waiting staff were so friendly and attentive both around the pool and in the restaurant. How some whining guest below complained about the 10 to 15 minute wait between courses beggars belief. The hotel runs a fabulous dining experience not a McDonalds' type eatery, The food was varied with numerous choices every day, lovely. (and not one cipolla in sight!). The waiting staff work exceptionally hard but remain courteous and patients at all times despite the questionable behaviour displayed by some UK guests. We made friends with other guests but were made to feel like part of the family by staff and yes Pepi, my cold is better! Hopefully we will see you again soon.

    « Amazing family hotel »

Just had the best two weeks holiday ever! Our girls are 11 and 9. The hotel is outstanding overall, because all the staff are so professional yet all delivered in a relaxed manner which makes its overall feel very happy and comfortable. Others have talked rightly so positively about rooms, food, pool, views etc but just a couple of points particularly for families and those who want to get out and about. Being a little way out of Sorrento is no problem given the wonderful shuttle bus driven by Mario, which make slipping into town and back so easy. So much to do outside but a very enjoyable day can be had at the hotel, enjoying the views, swimming and relaxing! Just near hotel are a couple of short walks to little bays with couple of restaurants on the beach - up a hill back yes but easy enough. Can't praise all aspects of hotel high enough and Ugo, the Manager keeps a fatherly eye over things to ensure quality is high and consistent. We travelled with Thompson and just a word regards trips - do not do these with Thompson as they are vastly over priced and can be done mostly by yourself taking the cheap, £3 and frequent train to main sites, Herculanium, Pompeii and links to Versuvious. Also any boat trips do via hotel reception as you will have a private boat tour to say Capri or Amalfi for half the cost - we did it twice it was that good! Overall we can only sincerely thank all the staff - everyone of them - for making wonderful holiday memories for us as a family and yes we shall be back very soon! Family Holt Ramsay

    « Another fabulous stay »

We came back to La Solara with my parents (in their 80's) and adult children after visiting as a couple last year. As expected, it suited everyone and the food, service and location were first class. Would easily recommend to anyone. Being out of Sorrento means that the hotel is quiet, but the hourly shuttle bus makes it easy to get into town, and the lovely pool area is perfect for relaxing.

« Best family hotel we have ever stayed in!! »

We stayed at this hotel for a week as a base to explore Pompeii etc. Frankly this is the best hotel we have ever stayed in. Although under the franchise of Best Western it retains the feel of an outstanding high grade family run hotel. The staff at all levels are friendly, attentive (without being intrusive), discreet and provide an outstanding level of service whether offering advice, catering for individual needs or providing little extras (welcoming bottles of wine in the rooms, making one comfortable around the pool etc). All services are provided at a very high standard whether cleaning the rooms or waiting in the dining room. All staff went out of their way to be freindly, helpful and carried out their duties in a highly professional manner without being aloof or distant. During our stay we observed families with very small children being very well looked after in a very relaxed and genuinely freindly manner. all dietary needs were catered for without fuss (including gluten free beer!) The hotels situation offers terrific views across the bay and being a short (and excellent) shuttle bus away from the main town is quiet and relaxing after the hustle and bustle of town, excursions etc. The swimming pool was clean, well looked after and the attendant service outstanding. Great towels, sun loungers and umbrellas. Food (we went half board) was also great with a good choice (always excellent veggies main options, fish, soup etc) and a menu that changed every day. They were happy to adapt for individual needs. Also providing a packed breakfast of pastries, sandwiches, fruit and drink for our early departure. We really cannot rate this hotel highly enough. It certain ally deserves all its previous accolades. The staff and atmosphere are simply brilliant. We will be back.

    « Great hotel »

We had a lovely week here for Easter. The staff were always polite and friendly, always greeted us around the hotel and were very helpful. The pool was excellent and is heated, gradually warming during the first week of the season. The towels are good ones and the guy who looks after the pool and equipment does a good job. The hotel was spotlessly clean. Our room was comfortable and we did not lack anything. The beds were comfortable. Pur bathroom was excellent We had no significant wifi problems but is was occasionally a little slow just before dinner, when lots of people might be using it I guess. We enjoyed the food - all well prepared, looked good and was tasty. They accommodation dates menu changes well and we saw other folk's preferences being catered for too. We found the staff to have very pleasant attitudes to our children, serving them well and sharing a joke with them. The children were delighted to find easter eggs in our rooms and loved the chocolate by their bed each evening. I would agree about the music which was not to my taste and was old fashioned in song choice and style. The children would have liked to dance but it was not suitable music. However, this was a small detail compared with the rest and I would not hestitate to return. The view is lovely - the better views from some rooms might be worth paying for if you can afford it. The bar and restaurant overlook the sea and Capri which was beautiful at sunset in particular. We had a great holiday and would love to go again.

    « A great hotel all round! »

We arrived on Good Friday 2016, the hotels first set of guests of the new season! The hotel is lovely and clean, staying as a family of 4 we had a good sized room with a big bathroom and balcony overlooking the pool. All the staff seem glad to see you and are polite and helpful and with msot Italiens they love the kids! We stayed half board with a lovely buffet breakfast and waiter service dinners which were superb, my partner & daughter are vegetarians who also enjoyed the varied menu and if you couldn't find something you liked it was no trouble for the chefs to make something up for you! The gala dinner on Sunday evenings were fantastic, a pianist played, the chefs were presented and the food was brilliant! An hourly minibus runs free between the hotel & Sorrento town centre, on the odd occasion it was full a new bus arrived in 10 minutes. The pool is large and clean with a small toddlers pool, it was nice and warm even on chilly days when we visited at Easter. We found a nice little village and beach called Pualo 15 mins walk from the hotel down a qiuet little lane, a pizza cost E4 at one of the 3 or 4 little restraunts with tables on the beach, some good little rockpools and me & my son had a swim..but not for long, the Med' isn't always warm I found! The hotel charged E5 for a draught Peroni beer & 12 for a bottle of house red, a margarita pizza was around E12, big and tasty, there was a nice mix of people young & older, couples & families and some low key entertainment every few days. This is one of the nicest hotels we have ever used, thanks for helping to make our holiday so good!!

    « Five Star Hotel »

What a fantastic hotel!!! We have just arrived home after spending a superb week on holiday in Sorrento. The standard of service at the hotel is very high, old fashioned (in a good way): discreet yet warm and friendly with good humour. The food is of the highest quality with a great attention to detail by the chefs. I already miss the breakfast pastries. I especially loved the crème anglaise with the hint of orange - a great accompaniment to the lemon cake dessert. The five course gala menu was amazing - the main of lamb stuffed with pistachios and a hazelnut crust was lovely :-D The location is 3km from Sorrento centre, which isn't a problem as the hotel lays on a bus service every hour and the location is peaceful with a nice walk down to a little harbour and beach. The pool is large and heated - my children used it nearly every day (as did I!). The front desk staff are very helpful and knowledgeable - they arranged local car hire for us. The room was spacious and very clean. In fact, the standard of cleanliness at the hotel was on an order of magnitude of its own!! I could run out of superlatives to describe this hotel - a reflection on just how good this hotel is and not on my vocabulary! In summary, a lovely, friendly hotel punching well above its weight. Book and stay with confidence :-D

    « My rating is 3 - 3.5 »

We stayed in this hotel for a week during Easter holiday. Starting with good points; the rooms are quite large and clean, mattress was nice and comfortable. Our room was on the side of building and wasnt sea view, but we still had good view on the sea. Staff tried to be friendly and helpful most of the time, dinner quality was sometimes ok sometimes very good. Salad bar was self service and good. Downsides; We had one day lunch outdoor beside pool, 2 pizzas and a pasta as starter and two coke. pizzaz were teribble quality, its base was hard to chew and painfully we wasted 37€ here. was guests had to sit on the same table every night and morning which their room number was placed on it. We didnt like this kind of controlling as we wished to change our table but couldnt. Some night there was live piano playing at dinner time, which is basically nice idea but they shouldnt place families with young babies exactly next to the loud piano. Another guest baby was screaming all time and his mother left dinner table. My son was scared at begining and we hardly settled him down. Food is not served self service like other hotels. Guests receive a menu of 5-6 starter, 5-6 main and 4-5 dessert which could choose one from each. It takes about 10 mins to come and getting the order, then for the first two, and takes 10-15 mins of waiting to receive each couse after finishing with previouse one. We found it inconvenient for every night as we have been with a young baby, tierd at that time of afternoon and have had long days out to different tourist sites, we liked to have quick dinner without wasting time and baby could go to bed earlier. 2-3 times they offered to bring the food to our room and then we asked for it but then we found later staffs manner changed to us and wasnt as friendly as before. They told dinner is from 7-10, but one night we were late and arrived at 9:30 and they told dinner is finished!! We just offered some salads and a piece of cake! In terms of atmosphere and decoration, it looks basic and a bit dated mostly in common areas specially reception area. Wifi internet was not reliable, 1-2 was good and the rest it was very slow or kept disconnecting. In the bathroom, shampoo quality was very bad and our hair felt like steel wool after using. There were just soap, body and hair shampoo and body lotion. No hair conditioner!! When we were booking, reading the reviews made some expectation of this hotel which wasnt met. All in all it is a 4 star hotel which is fairly rated and to my experience is 3.5

    « A fantastic family holiday! »

We have just returned from a week at the La Solara with myself and my sister, our parents and grandparents (6 of us in all). My parents have stayed in the hotel last year and recommended that we all go for the excellent service and friendly atmosphere. They certainly did not disappoint. We went as part of a Thompson's holiday package, and the staff were friendly throughout. The breakfast service was all self-service, with a more formal dining in the evening where you order from the menu and are served at your table, but can help yourself to salad. The food was always hot, home-made and fine-dining quality with ample choice of four or five dishes per course and a hearty wine list, Drinks were not very expensive either and the bar staff were very friendly. We genuinely felt that we were eating in a high-dining establishment every night, but with a relaxed and friendly set of waiters and excellent dining room manager ensuring our every needs were met. This was matched by a wonderful panoramic view over the bay as we ate. The pool area was always clean with ample sun loungers available and a heated pool as well! It was not incredibly hot as we went at the end of March but it was enough to be very pleasant. The reception staff ensured we had everything we needed and were always available for advice. The rooms are beautifully furnished and cosy, with every room having a balcony and excellent views across the bay. The cleaning staff were very good and we never had any problems, with pillow chocolates every day and replenished tea and coffee further improving the service. The only minor detail is the shuttle bus down into Sorrento being often very busy and as it is only a minibus with 20 seats that run on the hour, could lead to a rush. However, the driver was great and would return immediately for a pick-up if you were waiting and couldn't get a seat. The welcome walk in town offered many tips on the best eateries and shops and turned into a walking tour, with limoncello and ice creams to be had. Overall, a friendly, relaxing and thoroughly professional set of staff in a beautiful hotel - would highly recommend! Our special thanks too to our waiter Nello for always making us smile.

    « 5? Hotel Very Very Good »

We all as a family stayed for one week from Friday 25th March until Friday 1st April. What can I say?? The staff are very nice very helpful on reception. Sorted my car hire, trips to town by hotel private bus (F.O.C) Food in the hotel Breckfast - Very nice everyday with a huge choice, and everything cooked very well. Evening Dinner This is usually 5/6 courses, you are greeted by the head waiter and seated, this is full waiter sevice. The food is prepared as 5? should be. Everything was really impressive and all tasted very good indeed. Rooms Very clean very modern and maid service twice a day. Bed Queens size and very comfortable, never had a bad night at all. Sun terrace has table and chairs and 2 sun loungers, we had a room looking over the bay and the sun sets keep you using your camera every evening, really really great. Location Just out of town and thats good as Sorento is a very busy town. With the hotel bus no problem getting about and this is all free. Hotel bus runs all day on the hr up to 11.00pm, all very useful. Pool This is heated and is very nice with lots of sun beds, Food is avaliable all day up to evening dinner. The bar area and lounge has live music odd nights in the week and weekend, all very tastefully and nice. All in all we had a very nice and relaxing holiday, this hotel has that sort of atmosphere. From hotel to the Volcano, Pompeii, and Hercolainiam sites are about 1hr by car but about 2 hrs by bus. I would recommend staying at this hotel and visiting this wonderful area. Rod Locke

    « An excellent stay »

A wonderful hotel. Very clean, lovely food and helpful, good-humoured staff. Our stay was a real pleasure, and the kids enjoyed it immensely. We met a number of other guests who were on their second or third visit. The only (very minor) downside was the quality of the 'live' music on the gala night. Other than that, perfect.

    « A Superb Experience »

My wife and I have just spent a week at Best Western Hotel La Solara including the Easter Holiday and what a fantastic choice we made. We have been to Italy many times over the past 20 years and stayed at some great quality hotels but this one tops the lot for all round customer satisfaction. From the moment we arrived it was clear that this was an establishment that knew how to take care of their customers and throughout our week at La Solara the standards of service and attention to detail we enjoyed made this a holiday to remember. The Reception desk team dealt with every enquiry with calm efficiency demonstrating an understanding of the needs of the clientele and always with a smile regardless of the time of day. The photos we have seen on Trip Advisor do not do justice to the cleanliness of this establishment as it is gleaming from top to bottom and the staff who look after this aspect do a wonderful job. Our room was spacious with a comfortable bed and ample storage and little extras such as finding two Easter eggs on our return Sunday evening again demonstrate attention to detail. We were staying in the hotel on a half board basis and due to the wide choice of menu and excellent service in the restaurant we never considered missing dinner. The Sunday Gala dinner is an experience not to be missed where the chefs and restaurant team effortlessly display their skill and experience. The outdoor swimming pool has the added bonus of being heated during the months of March and April and for that reason was widely used. The attention to detail and customer care referred to previously was further demonstrated by the regular inspections undertaken by the owners during our stay which included dining in the restaurant. We will have no hesitation in returning to Hotel La Solara on our next visit to Sorrento.

This is our second stay at this hotel (2014 and 2016). We don't usually come back to the same place but for families who love excellent food, great service, friendly people, and convenient free bus in to town every hour it's perfect. The location is quiet, the rooms are lovely and we just feel so at home here, can't recommend it highly enough. Lots of lovely touches like the turndown service and Easter eggs at Easter - so thoughtful, they really do go out of their way to make your stay special. Beautiful pool and scenery too. Go, enjoy! X

Just back in UK and wish we were back there! The hotel maybe a few KM out of town but far better. The food was exceptional and every night, 3 course dinner with salad bar and a choice of food. All fresh and all served by some fantastic staff. Rooms are big and even with another bed for my son, we had plenty of space and great nights sleep. Really do not have anything negative to say. Perfect for families and for exploring the area. We personally hired a driver for four days and that was certainly the way to go and explore. Some families caught train and local buses and they had no complaints and all very easy. So a MASSIVE THANKYOU to the hotel and staff and you will be seeing us again very soon! « Can't fault it. »

October 2015 would be our second visit in 2015 and our fifth visit since April 2013 so with that in mind you can correctly assume that we like it here and although we are very fortunate to be able to enjoy holidays at other destinations in addition to La Solara we still very much look forward to holidays here and to that end I have already booked for 11th April 2016. Wi-Fi seemed to have improved over previous visits as I think they may well be on a new piped fibre optic system rather than the satelite system I think they previously used. For those that are a little adventurous there is a rabbit warren like system of old donkey cart tracks behind the hotel but you need a good sense of direction and more importantly a reasonable map to navigate them. I can't really add anything to the good reviews I and others have already previously written so if you are unsure about booking here I would happily help answer any queries you may have.

Enjoyed a lovely week here. Great room overlooking the pool. Food excellent and staff great. Excellent and prompt minibus into town every hour. Huge pool which I would have preferred to be open for an early morning swim..it opened about 830 ish. Booked due to great reviews and they were all correct. You will not be disappointed

    « GREAT HOTEL »

Stayed 5 nights in an ocean view room. The hotel is set on a hillside surrounded by olive groves looking across the bay. From the outset I must complement all the staff on the service levels provided here. Everyone was friendly and helpful, they have service down to a fine art. The room was spacious and had a good sized balcony with nice views to the water. Rather than walk directly into the bedroom there was a small ante room. The bathroom was clean and spacious. The entire hotel was well maintained and immaculately clean. We ate twice in the restaurant and were not disappointed by either the service or quality. They had a daily set menu but we went al a carte rather than have the full 3 courses. We also had a couple of good snacks around the large well maintained pool. There is a large comfortable common room and bar on the ground floor. The only slight minus was that it is about 5 km out of town which largely prevents walking from the hotel but this is offset by the free hourly shuttle bus to the centre of town. One word of warning taxis are horrendously expensive in Sorrento - 38 euro for a 10 minute ride with 3 bags is apparently the norm. A similar trip in Rome cost about 15 euro. If staying here I would try to coordinate with the hotel and catch their shuttle which stops about 5 minutes walk from the station.

    « Wonderful Hotel »

We stayed five most enyoable nights at the hotel All the staff were so pleasant and helpful No matter what the request always tried to help The room was very comfortable and clean The breakfast was sufficient and tasty if we had a request it was always fulfilled The shuttle service was amazing and works exactly as advertised To summerize a very good hotel

    « Hotel with a heart »

We were booked for 3 days in this hotel and we felt very welcome all throughout our stay. The hotel staff were genuinely friendly and eager to help out on any concern that you may have. On our first night when we woke up past 9 pm due to jetlag and missed dinner, the hotel staff made some calls to nearby restaurants and we were picked up by one of the restaurant staff in a car to have a superb dinner by the beach. The selection on the breakfast buffet is also extensive and featured many local products. Although the hotel is located away from the town center, the free shuttle that brings the guests to and from the center is very reliable and efficient. We will not hesitate to recommend this hotel to others.

    « Everything great »

Everything was great. Clean, comfortable (except for the hard beds). Relaxing (apart from the noise from people in adjacent rooms, bring ear plugs) Plentiful food (if a little undercooked at times, and bland). Super pool with lovely views. Fantastic entertainment (so long as you like to feel that you are in a residential home and not a hotel). Everything was great, but nothing was oustanding. If you get it cheap enough, a nice break. Sorrento is lovely and worth visiting, just not this hotel. Cannot understand the excellent reviews it is getting. It is at best average.

« Welcome to the family »

I have stayed at this hotel 3 times since 2013. It is a magnificent hotel, perched atop a ledge surrounded by citrus groves, with its height resulting in perfect views of the Mediterranean and the picturesque marina di puolo. The hotel is situated a cool 4 kilometres from Sorrento, though a handy courtesy bus will transport you there. La Solara does much to live up to the magnificence of its vistas. It is aimed at those looking for the bona-fide italian experience, so don't go expecting much beyond italian products. Breakfast offers a small range of local meats and cheeses, including the mighty buffalo mozzarella. The dinner menu offers a wide range of italian dishes, from pasta (penne, fusilli etc.) to fish. The lunch menu is thankfully very broad, while the pizzas are incredibly good, being made in the traditional Neapolitan way. The hotel feels a bit dated, with some items from the 70's remaining unchanged, though small developments are being made, which certainly keeps the hotel refreshing. My favourite thing about La Solara though is the atmosphere. No other hotel have I been to where I can recall the names of more than 1 staff member; from the moment you enter, you are familiarized with the staff members, ingratiated into the family as it were, and from then you are treated like family. Where other hotels treat you with respect and neutrality, the staff at La Solara treat you with friendliness and knowing. Because of this, I will never forget Marcello, Franco, Nello, Guiseppe, Federico, Antonio, Ernesto, Giovanni, and Ugo. In part owing to this overt friendliness, there is a very warm and home-like atmosphere. The rooms are simply decorated but exude warmth and actually look extremely pretty, with smooth marble floors, deep cream walls and blue trimmings. It is also a sweet and much appreciated gesture that every guest receives a soft chocolate every night. However, I feel the gala night (held every sunday to the best of my knowledge) starts grating after repeat stays at the hotel, with the heavily scripted meals and constant applauding for the chefs (who I appreciate are doing a demanding job very well) quickly becoming tedious. The activities are good though. The pool occupies a flat ledge on the cliff-side next to the hotel with an a la carte pool bar that is nice and shady underneath a straw canopy, while a small garden secreted away behind the bar contains table tennis under another shading canopy, table football under a more modern material canopy and seats both surrounded by lemon trees and with views of the sea., though said seats are metal and can thus sometimes be uncomfortable. Also, for those who want it, the hotel does have a gym, although it is not clearly marked and admittedly I have not yet found it. Overall, La Solara offers a fine range of foods to satisfy those seeking local food, though those wanting more will be disappointed. The decor is tired, though admirable improvements are being made, while the sense of family and warmth alone makes the experience worthwhile. Unforgettable.

« The best hotel we have ever stayed in! »

This is the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming that you will feel at home from the minute you arrive! The food is amazing and the rooms beautifully clean and well equipped. The free bus service into Sorrento town is fantastic and always on time. The views from our room (over The Bay of Naples) were breathtaking, the heated swimming pool was great and thoroughly enjoyed by all the family. Many thanks to Antonio & Massimo on reception, Giuseppe, Nello, Marcello, Franco, Fabio and all at La Solara for making our first trip to Italy so memorable, we'll be back!

    « Nice Friendly & Helpful Staff »

The cleaning, reception, dining and bar staff are all very helpful, professional and friendly. The bath/shower requires an additional vertical grab rail to assist less abled visitors over the bath side, OR better still REPLACE the baths with walk in showers

    « Children loved it! »

We stayed there for 4 nights and had a super time. Hotel is quite dated but super clean and the staff made it so special, it really has such a nice family vibe to it. Naturally sociable lounge made evenings great and the children had a super time. We booked direct and got a great deal, well worth considering and great base from which to explore the area from!

« Great Views with Balcony »

Wonderful, helpful staff, provided great information on local area activities and made useful suggestions. Balcony was a real treat to sit out on. The wi-fi was a decent speed, and the free shuttle downtown was punctual and very accommodating.

    « Simply,"THE BEST!" »

We have stayed at this hotel many times and will continue to do so. The hotel is in a perfect setting, just outside Sorrento and gets the sun on its fabulous, spotless swimming pool and sunbathing area, all day. There is a regular, reliable shuttle bus to town, the driver is extremely helpful. Although the road is busy and there is no footpath for part of the way to town, we regularly walked down to town, it takes about 30 minutes and the views are amazing. The lounge area is comfortable, light, airy and has enviable views across to Ischia and Naples. We had a room with a lovely balcony and sea view, worth the extra. The room itself was kept spotless by the lovely house keeping ladies and well stocked with essentials, even a kettle. Food! Where to start, it has to be said the food is exceptional. Lots of choice, hot and cold for breakfast, juice, fruit, yoghurts, cereals, breads, preserves, honey, chocolate spread, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, cold meats and cheeses, bacon (Italian) sausages, an abundance of cakes and pastries, teas and coffee. If you can't find something from that, stay at home!! The evening meals begin with a salad bar, a choice of starter from about 6, a choice of main, again from about 6 and a choice of dessert from 4 or 5. Local traditional dishes were always highlighted. The STAFF, well they are pretty special, all of them. They are welcoming, friendly, helpful and genuinely interested in their guests. They always go out of their way to make your stay special. There is not much entertainment, just three times a week, a male duo who may not be everyone's cup of tea and depending on the guests in the hotel at the time, depends on the success of the evening. Sorrento has lots of bars, cafes some with live music as an alternative and the shuttle bus runs till late. There are plenty of trips to occupy your days, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius, Capri and the Amalfi Drive and many more. If you cannot survive yours hols without Wi-Fi it has been upgraded and reception is excellent. Italian hotels are not modern and slick, they are very traditional and each has its own unique character, this hotel has both, in bucket loads. If you enjoy traditional Italian food, great service, spotlessly clean facilities in traditional accommodation I would strongly recommend you try this hotel.

« Friendly, organised and relaxing »

From arrival, our stay was perfect. Everything we needed was available and the friendly staff anticipated what we needed before we did. Food and wine were excellent and entertainment completed super evenings. The regular and reliable bus to the town ensured that we were able to visit all the attractions with no fuss. A great hotel in a great location.

« A relaxing stay in an excellent hotel »

Delighted with our decision to stay at this hotel for a short break this week. All the facilities were immaculately clean and well cared for. Our room had a huge balcony looking over the bay of Naples. Plenty of room essentials were provided, and a very welcome bottle of complimentary wine. We every much enjoyed a relaxing read in the salon with a cappuccino or two! The bar staff, reception staff and all of the restaurant staff were so friendly and helpful. All in all, one of the most pleasant hotels I have stayed at. Thank you all!

    « Fantastic, A Classic Italian Hotel. »

First went here 18 years ago and the last time 11 years ago, the majority of the same staff are here as well as some younger staff. From the minute you come to the hotel, to the minute you leave, you are treated like a member of the family, the service from reception, friendly and attentive room cleaning, waiters, pool and bar staff are all excellent and they are skilled in their respective jobs. We came here this time with a young family and the staff were so friendly to my kids, spending time to talk to them and an interest in what they are doing. This is such a good location in that it is peaceful with beautiful views, but their is also an hourly bus service into town from the hotel and back again from early morning to late evening (all included). The pool is heated in the off-season and is a great big 23 metre pool which is good for swimming as well as the kids playing, table tennis in the back garden. The free wifi works great too, even allows video streaming which is unusual with most hotels. The food though is the best part from the three times I have stayed previously and this time we have still never had a bad meal, the choice on the a la carte menu is great, with a lovely salad bar to complement the meal and extensive wine list. If you don;t like a meal on the menu they are happy to oblige and change the meal for your preference, my son often had chicken or steak as an alternative. The bar has music on some evenings and a large tv if anyone requires some sport etc. Finally their are plenty of trips which can be arranged via the hotel e.g. Amalfi coast, Pompeii by train, Naples, Ischia, Capri and numerous others. I would highly recommend the Cooking Class which is La Cucina Del Gusto by Chef Carmen my wife and daughter went on this and it was superb she was so helpful and my son and I joined her for the meal at no extra cost.

    « Customer service outstanding!! »

Got back from our truly relaxing stay at La Solara last Friday. The weather could have been warmer but the welcome could not. Every member of staff was friendly and helpful and made our stay very memorable mainly because nothing was too much trouble - every query or request was dealt with quickly and without any problems at all. Our room with it's partial seaview was kept beautifully clean - the chambermaids were polite, friendly and very hardworking. Teamaking facilities for our room were supplied immediately on request and the free Italian lessons with Connie were an added bonus - I really enjoyed them. The pool and surrounding area was kept spotless. Easy to get into Sorrento with the extremely reliable and free courtesy bus. The food in the restaurant is excellent quality and the choice is tremendous, yes Italian in style but then when in Rome!! Mille grazie La Solara! Numero di camera trecentoventiquattro!

« First trip to Sorrento »

We stayed in this hotel on the 3rd week of August, celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. It was an excellent experience. The staff, food and location could not be beaten. I needed a gluten free diet and this was not a problem, even a special gluten free anniversary cake was produced as a surprise! We would certainly recommend this hotel and if we return to Sorrento we will be staying at the La Solara again.

« Friendly Customer Focused Hotel »

We are staying in the hotel now and have found it to be one of the most customer focused hotels thart we have stayed at. The food is excellent and the hotels house wine is very good at 12 Euros a bottle. Nothing is a bother to the hotel staff. The hotel courtesy bus into Sorrento every hour is bonus. Where the bus parks is a road leading down to the main road and if you cross over and carry on Dow the steep incline there is a beautiful little fishing village with a few tavernas and restaurants. We ate at the one in the middle which was excellent value and quality house wine 8 Euros a litre and I izza from 5 Euros which tastes very good and is ample for two for lunch. There is also a great selection of seafood which looks delicious .I would return to this hotel again as it retains what good hotels should have and that is friendly good service.

    « "Wonderful holiday" »

My husband and I arrived home yesterday from a wonderful trip staying in the La Solara we booked this hotel last minute based on the reviews and weren't disappointed We wanted a relaxing stress free week and quite frankly a little bit of TLC and we got exactly that From the minute we arrived we were relaxing in the comfortable welcoming lounge with a glass of complimentary fizz our cases whisked to our room and we were poolside within 30 mins were we found the service to be of the highest standards matching anything we have experienced else where in world including Asia,America &Australia As a regular swimmer I cannot recommend the pool highly enough it was large enough to have a really decent swim and the changing room and toilets were spotless I also loved the discreet first floor entrance to the pool area heaven ! The food was delicious freshly prepared and in my opinion made with love the choice of six different starters, mains and desserts every day was enough to satisfy the most diverse palette And certainly did it for us on top of this was the wonderful friendly and much to our delight humourous service which made the evening so enjoyable The courtesy bus was fantastic making trips to Sorrento a daily pleasure and from there venturing out to see the wonderful sights of Pompei and Amalfi to name a few We actually did the amalfi select trip and experienced a wonderful day with Lucca and Mr Chiri The rooms were spotlessly clean we had a change of sheets mid week we also had a nice quiet room which worked perfectly for us In all honesty we could praise the hotel or staff enough we would go back and we would recommend it to those looking for some TLC

« Whats all the fuss about? »

The trouble with trip advisor reviews is they are not benchmarked, Is La Solara good? Yes if you compare it to Italian hotels, not really if you compare against SE Asia hotels Is service good? It's fine but not exceptional, but is that not what you pay for when staying in hotels? Food, its OK but very samey, positive its served fresh, negative, its rushed and finishes too early. In Italy you want to eat around 8:30-9:00, here you have to be finished by 9:00. One major problem is not having coffee with dinner, we're in Italy, the home of coffee!! Also at breakfast it is a machine, not real coffee!! Rooms, again by Italian standards are fine! The bed is exceptionally hard but its clean and serviced well each day. Two issues, air con is turned off in September, why? To save money?so charge for it. Secondly shower is out dated. In summary, La Solara is a a perfectly acceptable hotel, very 1970's, but there's much worse If you like travelling on package holidays you'll love this place Staff are friendly, rooms clean, food ok. If benchmarked against real 5 star hotels this might be 3.25-3.5 stars

« So special was the welcome »

This is one of the nicest and most comfortable hotels we have ever stayed in. It is imaculately clean and the food is excellent and delivered by a staff that cannot do enough for you and always with a smile. The gala night is very special and a highlight of the holiday. The pool is spacious and clean. The question is would we return? The answer - without a doubt.

    « Fantastic holiday »

Fantastic sums it up for us. We were looked after from the moment we arrived. Luggage whisked away to reception whilst we had our complementary welcome drink and later taken to our room. The food was excellent so forget any thoughts of diets. The room was kept immaculate and some lovely touches with the complementary wine on arrival and chocolate each evening. Staff were very friendly and helpful. No hestitation on saying that we would return to this hotel.

« Nice, but staff not very friendly »

The hotel is nice, and the dining room is beautiful, with an outdoor terrace and view of the water. It is located part way up the Amalfi coast. But there is really nothing you can walk to, and we didn't feel like the staff really liked Americans. Beds were hard, and we sure didn't have any view from our rooms.

« Wonderful holiday at La Solara »

This was my third visit this year and each time it gets better. Cannot fault the hotel at all. The staff are very attentive nothing is too much trouble. I love this hotel and would never stay anywhere else. The food is wonderful as are the waiters, the desk, the bar,the pool attendant right through to the maids. Well done to you all.

    « A great week »

Our first visit to Italy could not have been better. Just about everything at La Solara was excellent - a very clean and comfortable room, friendly and helpful staff and great food made this a highly enjoyable holiday. It is hard to find any negatives about the hotel, the only small gripe would be it's location close to a busy and hazardous road meant that post-dinner walks were out of the question unless you took the excellent courtesy bus in to Sorrento and the Wi-Fi did not function. We would gladly stay here again and can thoroughly recommend it.

    « Centrally Located Sorrento »

We spent three nights at this hotel. It was a great base to explore both Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. The room was amazing with a large balcony with views of the water. The room was large and beautiful. The grounds were beautiful with a large pool. Breakfast was delicious. The staff was great and booked our Amalfi Coast trip for us. The hotel is a little bit out of town but they run a shuttle bus back and forth every hour. The pickup/dropoff was very convenient to the center of town and close to restaurants and the train station.

« 10 days at the La Solara »

At the La Solara, we've been received as if we were part of the FAMILY. The team was incredible. The first good morning we had every morning was from Nello trying to speak to us in french (our language). Everybody was very nice from the desk office to the room maid. The service is always efficient and personalized. What about the food; it was incredible every day but the Sunday Diner was even better with their "Diner Gala" I recommend this hotel to everybody who want to rest few days in a friendly quiet place, with an incredible sea view. « Grazie a tutto il personale la Solara per una vacanza una bella settimana »

My wife and I travelled to Sorrento independently and chose this hotel because of its slightly out-of-town location and the consistently high number of excellent reviews on tripadvisor and elsewhere. Our bedroom was ?spotless' and the rest of the hotel, pool and grounds were also maintained to a very high standard. The all male ?front of house' staff, from Reception to the Hall Porter, could not have been more courteous and polite - always very helpful and always showing a friendly interest in guests' welfare. Indeed this approach had already been evident in our e-mail exchanges during the booking process and we were particularly appreciative of Antonio's friendly messages and his efforts in providing us with the well situated room he had promised. The bedroom staff were friendlier than is often the case in hotels and we appreciated their unobtrusive, friendly modus operandi. The hourly shuttle bus provides an extremely efficient service into town; it was always on time and really does take just a few minutes each way. We enjoyed our stay and appreciated the little extra touches such as our welcome drink, free chocolates at night, free sweetmeats and savouries with drinks / snacks etc - and the complimentary bottle of wine provided in our bedroom on arrival was a very nice touch. If we ever return to Sorrento we shall certainly book at la Solara again.

« Nice Hotel for a Stay in Sorrento »

My wife & I stayed 5 nights at BWH La Solara and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was ample size with a relaxing view of the bay. The staff was excellent and offered help relating to all aspects of our stay.... restaurant recommendations and reservations, sights to see...etc. The breakfast offerings were broad and substantial, with plenty of fresh fruits, breads and pastries...just to mention a few items. The hotel, which is located a bit outside of downtown, offered an hourly shuttle service, to and from, downtown Sorreto. Overall, this is a wonderful place to stay if you plan to visit Sorrento.

    « Chill Out »

A holiday that takes all the stress from your holiday. Sunbeds? - not a problem - always enough - if not just ask! Queuing for meals? - no problem - always have your own table. Noisy rooms?- very quiet at night times. Dirty rooms? - no problem - cleanest rooms we have ever stayed in. Staff that don't care?-not a problem here - always lots of attention here from reception to waiters to the wonderful barman in the evening who made you feel special.Only thing we would have liked would have been more inspiring evening entertainment. I know we were in Italy but the duo who sang Italian songs were a bit lack lustre and people just went to bed which was sad as the waiters really tried hard to keep you involved. PS Limoncello and Lattes best ever!

« Wonderful week in Sorrento! »

Thank you to all the staff at Hotel La Solara for making our honeymoon so special. We had a fantastic time in Sorrento and would certainly recommend this hotel. From the moment we arrived we were looked after and nothing was ever too much trouble. High standard of accommodation, with a lovely view of the sea and the island of Capri! Very clean hotel with good food and excellent service. The pool was a great size (which is unusual in hotels) and the whole sun terrace/pool and bar was spacious and relaxing. The location of the hotel is peaceful among the olive groves, with the hotel shuttle bus providing easy transportation into Sorrento day and night. We had a hire car for a few days to explore the Amalfi coast and when we had a flat tyre, Bruno came to our rescue and got us on the road again! It was a wonderful week - Grazie mille!

« Fourth Visit To This Friendly Well Run Hotel »

My wife and I stayed at The La Solara Hotel between 28/9/15 and 05/10/15. This was our fourth visit and once again it did not disappoint. We have stayed in numerous hotels around the world and some may have been more luxurious or more modern or contemporary, but none can match the friendliness of all the staff here. The hotel and rooms are impeccably clean and evening meals are excellent quality. Breakfast may be a little basic for some guests. This included the usual cold meats and cheeses on offer with toast maker, choice of 4 cereals, fresh fruits and fruit salads, Fruit juices. Eggs tended to be choice of scrambled or boiled with bacon and alternating various sausage types. Numerous cakes and pastries (so not that basic!) Coffee was a bit disappointing for me this time, as they had installed 2 table top machines that dispensed various coffees eg. Lungo, Macchiatto, Americano,Latte etc. This was fine but I had personally preferred a coffee pot on the table as they made excellent coffee and plenty of it! The pool and sunbathing areas were an oasis of peace and quiet, another reason we keep returning! At first glance the Hotel could seem a bit far from Sorrento itself and the roads to it can be busy with traffic, quite steep and have no footpaths. However, the free hourly shuttle bus provided by the hotel negates all of these concerns. The hotel's position on the hillside and away from the town centre help to give it a tranquil, quiet unhurried feel. All the staff (even the cleaners) are really friendly but worthy of special mention are Nello, Giuseppe, Antonio, and Angelo. The head waiter, Marcello, is the consummate professional and keeps all the staff on their toes! Sorrento itself is a wonderful city. Again a good place to relax with surprises awaiting. Amalfi Drive, Pompei, Herculaneum, are a must. This is our "go to" hotel when we want a guaranteed relaxing and peaceful rest! We will be going back!

« Great stay and Holiday at La solara Sept 2015 »

My wife and I had a lovely holiday this Sept and the hotel continues to be of a very high standard particularly the food and accommodation. The staff are so friendly and hard working, nothing too much trouble for them. Long live the waiter service which really gives the evening meal a touch of the Italian charm! The hourly shuttle bus into Sorrento is very good and you can go into town after dinner for a walk round and enjoy the beautiful sights and still get back at a reasonable hour! A lovely hotel in quiet country area, Many local walks and marvellous views across the Bay of Naples. We will be back soon. Many thanks to all the staff. R/W Nottingham

« Lovely hotel for more mature couples »

Old fashioned charm and service are the key to this delightful hotel. If you enjoy good food, good service, sunbathing and a pool this is the place for you. Anyone with mobility issues would possibly struggle with the steps to the dining room, steps from the road or the steep drive. Nearby harbours are worth a visit but, again, it's a very steep hill wherever you go to the sea on this coast! Our room had a side sea view and balcony which sadly didn't get the sun at all in September. For best views book a room at the front of the hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our two week half board stay at La Solaria.

    « Marvellous Matsimo!! »

My husband and I had read the reviews on-line and after staying at the Best Western in Capri we were able to spend two nights at La Solara on a cancellation. We wanted to stay longer and Matsimo at the Front Desk was so accommodating, he found us another place to stay on our 3rd night and then we were able to return to a gorgeous suite overlooking the sea for our final night. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us and the shuttle bus is so convenient. We enjoyed the lovely pool, and along with a nice breakfast each morning, the dinner was excellent as well. We would definitely return to this property.

    « Fabulous Week Away »

We spent a relaxed week at Hotel La Solara This hotel is enjoyed by predominantly mature couples who stay here repeatedly. The hotel provides a family atmosphere with people appearing to know each other well We received a warm welcome and given a glass of prosecco on our arrival. The staff are courteous and work hard to please. Our room was extremely clean with good facilities and little touches such as chocolates on the pillow every evening and a complimentary bottle of red wine The view from the room 122 balcony was blocked by a roof so not one of the better rooms available, if you like to sit outside. however this did not really bother us as we did not spend much time in the room. The food was good with plenty of choice available at breakfast and on each evening we dined. It was my husbands birthday one of the evenings and the waiters kindly brought him a cake with a candle a nice touch The hotel pool was refreshing and there were plenty of sunbeds available. The hotel provides an excellent shuttle bus which despite its location and the heavy traffic at times was punctual and very efficiently operated We have only a couple of constructive comments to make with regards to the functioning of the hotel. We found the hotel to be a little regimented particularly in the dining room. We were told where to sit and had to use that table at every meal. The dining room should be serving food until 9.00pm but on one particular evening we arrived back late from a tour and it was 8.50pm when we went to dine by 9.15pm we had eaten 2 courses and given we were the only remaining diners, we got the impression the waiters wanted us to leave so they could finish for the night and consequently we felt a little rushed. We found the bar a bit hit and miss, on one occasion we ordered a night cap which never came. The bar man disappeared and we felt that it was because we were the only people still up at 11.00pm consequently we went to bed it was not particularly late, and the bar should have been open until midnight. We generally caught the last shuttle bus back to the hotel but did not feel comfortable ordering a drink on arrival at 11.30pm. Overall despite our comments this hotel is extremely popular and keeps the majority of its customers happy and wanting to return. We would personally choose a hotel in the centre of Sorrento as with hindsight the location would have been more convenient

« Hotel and pool very clean, beautiful rooms, friendly staff, would stay here again. »

We (myself 47, husband 47, daughter 16, son 12) stayed at La Solara in peak season (Aug 2015) and loved it. We booked independently B & B and felt very welcome, just as welcome as those staying half board. What did we like about this hotel: 1. Beautifully clean, both our rooms were lovely. 2. Pool was crystal clear. 3. Staff were always available to help and very professional, but not in your face with the false hospitality you sometimes get at some places. 4. No loud music by the pool, just the lovely background sound of people enjoying themselves. 5. Lovely and quiet in the evening so you could get a good nights sleep. You did need to be aware that this hotel has a shuttle bus service into Sorrento town centre (only takes 10mins tops), as the hotel is just outside the main town. We did not see this as a problem as we used the shuttle bus to get into town during the day so we could go on and visit Pompeii, Herculanium, Mount Versuvius and we used the shuttle bus during the evening when we went out for dinner. We preferred staying slightly out of town as the benefits of a quiet room, lovely views and a good nights sleep were more important to us. When we were having a day by the pool we ate at the poolside bar which served lovely food.
