Description

Welcome to Best Western Laegreid Hotell in the center of Sogndal, by the Sognefjord lies Best Western Laegreid Hotell. Beside the little fountain in the square you will find a hotel where guests feel at home. Where everything has been prepared to offer you the peace you need. The staff are pleasant and helpful. The atmosphere is warm, personal and informal. Just ask our regular guests. Perhaps your hosts, Sylveig and Atle Laegreid, place more importance on the atmosphere than others who run hotels. They don't only earn their living here, they live here themselves too. And that is all the guarantee you need to ensure you will find the same comfortable and pleasant atmosphere every time you stay at Laegreid. Many people come back to Laegreid as often as they can. Some have even said, when checking in, it's good to be back home. That is the hospitality Laegreid is known for. Sylveig and Atle have a genuine and heartfelt gleam in their eyes when they bid you "welcome home". All 36 rooms at Laegreid are of high standard. You can expect the same quality whether you stay in a single room, double room or junior suite. The rooms have recently been renovated and are well soundproofed. Naturally you will find wireless Internet throughout the hotel and a lift from reception. Best Western Laegreid Hotell lies at the centre of a natural larder of the best of meat, fish and vegetables. The local food traditions are also the basis of Best Western Laegreid Hotell's food philosophy. Good homemade food, from good local ingredients.

"Stuck in the 80"
Kyrre E, 07 Octobre 2018

HUff, I would not recommend this hotel for staying no longer than 1 night. Dont let the staff lour you into enjoy the dinner buffet, it is a rip off. Awful food. Go to the restaurant across the street. Value for money at the other restaurant. No good service from the staff either. Not happy with leaving my money for this place. How difficult can it be to update to this millenium. Please...........

"Good for a 1 night stay"
Shai P, 01 Octobre 2018

This hotel looks like it's stuck in the 70's but in a good way. I didn't mind the feel it had to it and actually liked it. The elevator, the lobby, the room, everything felt nostalgic. Location is right next to the fjord, and great for an evening walk. Breakfast was pretty poor, especially compared to other BW's around the world. No omelettes, no scrambled eggs, no baked goods. Parking area next to hotel is public, and costs extra.

"Small"
Jeff S, 08 Septembre 2018

The elevator was so small that only 2 of us could use it at a time. The room was small. The bathroom was small. There was no free parking. The location was fine and the room was clean. It was good enough for a stopover place to stay.

"5 min walk from the bus station"
Roger K, 14 Août 2018

The hotel is located only 5~10 walk from the Sogndal bus station. The room was nice and clean, but it was very noisy during the night before the mid-night. Because there was a bar just in front of the hotel, there were many students singing songs and making big noisy after they got few drinks. The variety of breakfast was OK but the space was limited. If you happen to bump into the tourist group then you may not have a chance to grab what you want or even to find a seat. The hotel staff did not refill anything before the tourist group left, so try to avoid to have the breakfast with the tourist group if you have the choice.

"With Best Western you know what you get"
Antigoniesq, 14 Août 2018

... and this time, too, our expectations were met and even exceeded. This was the first time in our road trip so far that we were given a big room (huge by Norwegian standards!) with a leather couch and an armchair. Both the room and the bathroom were clean, comfortable and pleasantly decorated. We had to pay for parking in front of the hotel and the person who checked us in very kindly gave us the coins to put in the machine, since we didn't have any ourselves. The breakfast was fine, too, and the price for our one-night stay was very reasonable.

"Nice hotel, good breakfast"
plivsey2017, 20 Juillet 2018

Best Western usually provides a solid quality of room and hotel and this hotel follows suit. Location is good with paid parking right outside the hotel. Breakfast was tasty and offered a number of choices. The two women receptionists were notably lacking in enthusiasm and friendliness. We had pizza in the pub attached to the hotel which was overpriced and probably frozen. Nonetheless a positive base to explore the area.

"Good hotel; ok breakfast"
MarthaDG, 19 Juillet 2018

A quaint room with a somewhat comfortable bed (not enough pillows) and a teeny tiny bathroom. No onsite parking but parking in lots around hotel free at night and pay with EasyPark between 0800-1700. Guy working reception on checkin was super cheerful, nice and helpful. At checkout, after waiting a few minutes for someone to help us, it seemed the lady working the desk had better things to do then check us out. No AC but the windows open up widely to allow lots of cool night air in to circulate. For a single night stay this hotel was sufficient. Thanks!

"Walking distance from the Bus Station"
Tony G, 14 Juillet 2018

Overlooks a small square next to a number of stores and restaurants. Great if you are traveling by bus. Clean with a small elevator. Don't try to cram too many people with luggage, someone will get stuck awkward position. The window only opens a small bit. Beds are comfortable but some light does get through the curtains, if you are sensitive to light. Remember, you are in the land of the midnight sun. Noticed some comments on price. Norway is an expensive country in general. Hotels are seldom inexpensive unless you stay in a barracks setting with shared bathroom.

"it's a Best Western - need I say more ??"
JKD, 11 Juillet 2018

a rather expensive hotel, but the nice thing about Best Westerns - you know what you're going to get. The room was clean and relatively modern; the bathroom functional. No surprises, really. You know you're going to get a comfortable room of a decent size; places to store your luggage and a table and desk; chairs for relaxing and a television. In the US, we usually get microwaves, coffee makers and fridges, but that varies throughout the world. Here, there was a mini-fridge and coffee maker in the room, as well as coffee and tea in the lobby. The breakfast, was the usual Best Western standard - eggs, meats and cheeses, breads, cereals, yogurts, fruits and beverages. The reception agent was working double duty with checkouts and replenishing the buffet items, so although the milk machine and milk cartons were never replenished, we had to cut her a little slack as she was working as hard as possible. We had a few questions about getting on to Fjaerland and Mundal (long story - don't ask ! or rather, ask in the forum !!) and the man at checkin was most helpful in printing up the bus schedule for us. The location is quite convenient for the bus and a little cheaper than the Quality Hotel. Overall - meets the Best Western standards, so that makes it average .... which, btw, to me, is a good rating.

"Good for one night stay"
FRANCIS P, 09 Juillet 2018

Location was great. The staff was very friendly. The room was nice, but kind of old fashioned with huge leather chairs and an enormous desk fills the room. Breakfast was ordinary with not too many selections., Good for one night.

"Nicest owners"
XavierDel, 23 Juin 2018

The room was beautiful and clean, but the best part about that hotel is the owning family. They are so nice and helpful, they helped us look into a bus to go to Nigardsbreen glacier and offered to drive us there when there weren't any bus. Very hospitable and charming owners, it feels definitely more like a little family-owned hotel than a big chain hotel. The classy atmosphere with big leather chairs adds to the impeccable service. I recommend to everyone.

"One night stay as part og long weekend"
Ketelok, 18 Mai 2018

Excellent hotel with a cosy atmosphere but rather high priced. Good breakfast but very little hot food. A good supply of gluten free options. English style of interior in the rooms. Free parking is a plus.

"Good service, old fashioned hotel."
Gunda D, 30 Août 2017

This hotel is ok for a short stay, and the staff was very friendly. Breakfast was ordinary, everything was fresh, but my visit was off season, so the selection was medium. The room was nice, but kind of old fashioned, the way hotel rooms looked in the eighties. Huge leather chairs and an enormous desk fills the room. The fan in the bathroom was making a terrible noise, but it was manageable with earplugs and bathroom door closed.

"Great service "
preetik123, 23 Juillet 2017

It is a comfortable and clean hotel. It stands out for its service. The lady running the place was very helpful in finding us a restaurant when we arrived very late but also refused to take back money/change we needed for parking. They are a great stopover

"Convienent Location Great Rooms"
gromit2017, 04 Juillet 2017

The staff were very helpful and spoke excellent English. We stayed for 2 days and the room we had was amazing. Very large and comfortable (but did not have a good view). The hotel is located a short distance from the bus station and right in the middle of the center of the town. A short walk takes you along the fjord for a pleasant hike. The breakfast was delicious and included a wide variety of choices. We really enjoyed this stop on our tour of the fjords and would highly recommend this hotel.

"Visit Sogndal"
DeepakBhalerao, 07 Juin 2017

Sogndal is a beautiful town and is ideal to stay a couple of days. Our stay in Best Western was great. The Rooms have scenic views. All facilities are adequately available. The Hotel is close to the Bus stand and convenient to airport, Flam and Gudvangen from where you can take ferry and train journeys. I shall like to visit Sogndal again and shall stay in Best Western. The Hotel offers a nice breakfast and buffet. The Manager at Best Western was quite helpful to guide us a visit plan.

"Fancy interior, friendly staff"
Emma A I, 24 Avril 2017

Stayed there for 2 nights. The staff were very friendly and kind. Food was very tasty!!! Especially the Norwegian stuff, like brown cheese and herring! It's also 3 minute walk from Sogndal kai pier. So it was very easy to find and hop on the boat. If you're lucky, you might get some cool views of the fjord and mountains from your room. The only thing is that their paternoster lift is a bit scary, despite looking posh:)

"Not bad"
Robert T, 18 Septembre 2016

Stayed on our recent car tour of Norway. Room was clean. Decor was a bit dated. Bathroom was clean and not too small. Parking was out in front, and not provided by the hotel. You had to get a parking ticket from the nearby parking machine if you arrived in business hours. The breakfast was standard Scandinavia fare. Adequate. On the whole not a bad place to stay.

"Nice traditional style hotel."
jetsaver, 03 Septembre 2016

Sogndal is a nice little town, and the hotel is in the centre of it. The hotel has a car park which is free between 5 p.m to 8 a.m so outside of these times you have to make sure that you pay fee. We had a lovely room, traditional style and a comfortable large bed. Breakfast was included in the price, the usual continental buffet style. The hotel is clean and tidy, and the reception staff were friendly when we arrived. We ate out the first night for our evening meal, but thought we would try the buffet in the restuarant to see what it was like. Wish we hadn't bothered as it was awful. The choice was very limited - either cod or pork - we chose the pork. It was so tough that we couldn't eat it. Thought well maybe the desserts would be better - only one choice - a sort of mousse. Again not very nice. On check out we mentioned our disappointment with the meals, but the receptionist wasn't really interested and said the buffet was for the "workers" staying in the hotel. Perhaps they should have told us, but the "workers" deserved better. No details on price of buffet either before we had it. Hotel did not give us a discount on it either. Good hotel spoilt by food.

"Nice hotel in a good location, nice interior"
Koos83, 28 Août 2016

The hotel looks quite plain from the outside, but the inside is very nicely decorated in 20s style. The rooms have nice views on the sourroundings, some have a view on the fjord. Breakfast is quite plain. The hotel is in a good location to see other things in the area, such as Kaupanger and the Nigardsbreen glacier. The staff didn't know much about the things nearby, though.

"Friendly Staff"
AndrewFernando, 02 Août 2016

From Geiranger, our next major destination was Bergen. We knew driving directly to Bergen was strenuous and decided to have a stop over in Sogndalsfjora which is a very nice town. We spent one night in Best Western Laegreid hotel. The receptionist was a man and he was very pleasant and welcoming. Our room was big. The bed was comfortable and neatly arranged. We liked the wooden floor and the wooden furniture in the hotel. When we arrived at the hotel, it was raining and we parked the car in the car park just outside the hotel entrance. We asked the receptionist whether we can keep the car there. It was a public car park and we had to pay and get a ticket from a machine to keep the car. The receptionist told us what to do. Parking is free after 5:00PM. It was already past 5:00PM and we could keep the car without a ticket till 8:00AM next morning. However, in the morning before 8:00AM, we have to come down and take a ticket for two hours to keep the car till 10:00AM. We did exactly as he told us. Best Western hotel gives free breakfast in their restaurant. But their restaurant is not open for dinner. We asked where we can go for dinner and we were given all the details about the restaurants in the area. We liked the way the staff interacted with us. They were very friendly and helpful. I can recommend this hotel as a good place with a friendly atmosphere and suitable for a short stay.

"Beautiful and peaceful resting place for your glacier hike"
Michael B, 30 Juillet 2016

Elegant hotel, comfy room, friendly staff, outstanding breakfast (included). Enough restaurants within walking distance. Gorgeous mountain views. Great stopping point on the way to Glacier hikes at Nigardsbreen.

"Comfortable but Pricey!"
LuizaCoutinho, 30 Juillet 2016

Positives: My husband and I stayed there 1 night. (Jun 15th to Jun 16th). We stayed in a twin room in the 4th floor. There is an elevator in the building. The bedroom is not large but it has enough room for our 4 large suitcases. The beds are comfortable with firm mattresses. Doors and windows soundproofing. The curtains with lining. The bedroom gets darker than the previous hotels. There is a small refrigerator in the bedroom . The bathroom is good. The breakfast does not have variety but has quality. The bread is very good and is served warm. A good place for an overnight stay. It is quiet and silent. It is pricey but the hotels in the Sogndal area are expensive. The staff is nice and helpful. There is a public parking in front of the building. (NOK 17/h from 8am-5pm). If you arrive after 5pm it is it is advisable to pay for parking ( if you are going to check out after 8am on the next day) and leave the receipt in the car dashboard. Negatives: I do not like dark furniture. It looks like they are old and they darken the room.

"Avoid the this hotel"
londoner696, 23 Juillet 2016

Worst hotel we had experienced in years, having travel extensively across Europe, including Norway. No functioning aircondition mean sweaty night. With room located opposite the street, even at the higher floor, bring Saturday night party till 3am into our room. Clunky lift gives stop in mid floor most of the times. The bathroom towels are thinnest I have been seen. The outside decor is poor probably done last many years ago. The reception's front man need retraining as his commonication skill are poor, confuse man. Avoid this pricy hotel at NOK 1,670 per night per room.

"Could be a pleasant hotel with the right management and staff"
Laurence A, 14 Juillet 2016

The management of this hotel conduct their business entirely to their own satisfaction, seemingly with little regard to the guests. The hotel has a lounge and dining room off of the reception where the staff were unwelcoming. The lift which holds four persons, or three with luggage is totally inadequate. The key card system is in urgent need of updating. I got through three key cards in an over night stay and did not put them near a mobile phone. The hot dishes at a buffet dinner were cold as they were again at the megre breakfast. The hotel does not have a bar as such but relies upon an adjacent rather down market establishment.

"Warm and Cosy Hotel with Friendly Staff"
touristmouse, 13 Juillet 2016

The Victorian decor sets it apart from the rest of the Scandinavian theme accommodations we stayed during our Norway trip. While we are not a fan of dark wood furnishing, we do appreciate the comfort of chesterfield sofa and warm wood floor. The corner unit superior room we stayed in is larger than we expected. It is very clean, warm and cosy. Another major selling point is the full height window with distant mountain views. Waking up and looking outside was one of the best things for me. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast spread is very basic but sufficient to kickstart the day. The free wifi works well and the cable tv is amazingly clear (probably digital HD). We even managed to catch up on Euro cup game during our stay. I was only there for 2 nights but I wouldn't mind a longer stay. The only reason I took one star off is because of the lift. Yes, the manual door lift from the bygone era complements the decor well but it has a very small capacity (tops 4 pax) and requires some strength to push open. You will also need to close the door properly or the lift would not start and this may take a few tries to master. Note: The hotel is just 5-7mins walk to bus interchange where you board Bergen Bus 450 / Glacial Bus. There is small road to cross but no steps involved.

"An Enjoyable Stay in a comfortable Hotel"
JaydubAustralia, 15 Décembre 2015

I would normally avoid a Best Western Hotel especially outside of the US, but this one was very welcome after a couple of previous nights in less than impressive places. The room was large, with a comfortable sitting area, huge TV (we don't usually use them, but it was there for those who wanted it), very comfortable bed & bathroom, adjoining pub to have a drink without venturing out in the cold, good evening dinner & very good breakfast. Yes, it's a bit dated & is definitely more American than Norwegian, but the price was comparable with other Hotels which were not nearly as good & it is located in a pleasant country town which retains some older buildings but has developed new facilities as well. Worth a visit.

"Good stay in Sogndal"
NNe196, 18 Août 2015

All in all this is a good hotel, especially taking into account the location (small town in the middle of the mountain area). The biggest thanks goes to the friendly and helpful staff. Although my stay was a short one, I felt very welcome and got some extra service like a bigger room and a parking place for my motorbike in the hotel backyard. Room that I had was a double room, with good amount of space. The weather was quite hot during my stay and as there was no air-conditioning the room was a little hot in the afternoon. On the other hand, weather like that is quite rare in these parts and the room was cooled down nicely when the evening came. Breakfast was nice, quite small but big enough and really good in quality. The only negative side is that there is no restaurant in the hotel, but there are nice restaurants really close by. I would be happy to select this place again, if I would need a place to stay in Sogndal.

"A great place"
ilan_r, 16 Août 2015

A great place, spacious rooms, good wi fi. Excellent breakfast There is a pub adjacent to the hotel belongs to the hotel and is located in the town center. The team went out of his way to help us in the problem we had with the airline. Much more than we expected. Excellent hotel for trips in the region

"A bit dated"
Trond B, 05 Août 2015

We stayed here one night (Saturday-Sunday) on our way through. We found this hotel cozy but a bit dated. The guest rooms were spacious, but had a smell of a dentist's waiting room. Not sure what caused this. The breakfast was great, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. One of our rooms was above the hotel bar, which was quite noisy.

"Nice hotel and a good location"
SBeza, 27 Juillet 2015

We stayed here one night during our trip to Norway. The hotel is located centrally in Sogndal and we were able to walk to our restaurant for dinner which is nice (Café Prego). The lady working the reception was very nice and I liked the decor inside, very cozy feeling. Our room was nice and comfortable, the bathroom was a good size and the beds comfortable. I didn't eat here but I know my wife enjoyed the breakfast. I wish we could have stayed another night here, coming from two nights in Odda where we didn't particularly enjoy our hotel. I would stay here again if I ever was passing through Sogndal again.

"overpriced and poor service"
hammy2010, 20 Juillet 2015

This was the most expensive hotel during our trip to Norway and we expected much more. The breakfast was very disappointing, as the options were very limited and no one ever refreshed anything both mornings we were there. There was no hot water for tea in the jug left, other patrons had to go into the kitchen for more coffee, no napkins or top up of the limited food available. It was a very frustrating experience. For the price one pays you expect much more. The parking is very expensive, as you have to pay from during the weekdays. Would not recommend this hotel, but the options in the area are very limited.
