"Great hotel in the countryside"
tomasw529, 08 Mai 2019

Best Western Seehotel Frankenhorst is a wonderful hotel in the countryside outside of Schwerin. We are extremely pleased with the stay. The inside pool and pool area are perfect. Relax area with different saunas are very nice and fresh. The city of Schwerin was a new experience for us and we will absolutely come back to the hotel and the city of Schwerin. The restaurant is top class. Thank you for a very pleasant stay.

"Quiet, Secluded, Unique Hotel"
L1770KFpeterw, 13 Octobre 2018

This hotel consists of several small buildings in the woods next to one of Schwerin's famous lakes. The buildings are all pretty well spread out so expect a short stroll to the restaurant in the main building. I have heard, but cannot confirm, that this was a hunting lodge for Egon Honecker in the old East Germany period. Now a days there are a couple alpacas, donkeys, some chickens (and rooster), plus a friendly cat. The rooms are fine with lots of light and nicely furnished. The pool looked good. The Spa also looked impressive. The restaurant had a limited menu but everything I had was excellent. The duck with pumpkin was very tasty. Staff is very friendly. It is about 5 miles north of Schwerin so going there to eat can be difficult.

"Quite far out of town"
KennethEast, 03 Août 2018

This was a tour bus hotel that was further out of town than we expected. Room OK, but one couple in our group was housed next to a sauna and their room was exceedingly hot. Too tired to get in the car to try a restaurant in town. So we were captive of the hotel restaurant. It, too, was OK. But you had to dodge the hordes of bus guests to get a spot. Acceptable, but hardly great. It's got a water-side location, which we didn't take advantage of.

"Nice local hotel"
ASCII27, 28 Juillet 2018

We had a great 1 night stay at this hotel. The staff was very welcoming and really helpful, and we enjoyed the hotel bar that had a great sun deck to enjoy some drinks. Only thing was that the room it self was a bit outdated and look like it had seen better days.

"Good stay in quiet surroundings"
NemoTraveler, 11 Juillet 2018

We stayed two nights. The hotel is located in quiet surroundings about 7 km north of the city center. There are about 60 rooms in different buildings, a large lawn and park area and also a lake, quite nice. Friendly staff at the reception giving good advice on local sights. Our room was large and equipped with all the amenities you would expect, including coffeemaker, fridge and air conditioning. The beds were good, however the pillows were larger than I would prefer, but no big issue as an alternative would probably be available upon request. The cleaning was not as good as expected and just okay. The restaurant serves good food at reasonable prices, but has a limited selection. Breakfast was included in our rate and was okay without being great. This is after all a four star hotel, and some of the hot items were not as good as I would have expected. In spite of the location the hotel charges EUR 5 per day for parking. Not a high price, but a bit unusual, considering the location. No public transportation is available, but the hotel offers a free shuttle to and from downtown Schwerin once a day. I would recommend driving in your own car, as ample parking is available close to the old town and at a reasonable price.

"Super place to stay, even in December"
kmr100, 07 Décembre 2017

We returned to this lovely hotel. We have never been this late in the year. It was so festive. Staff are very friendly. I liked the fact that guests were given a chocolate Santa on St Nicholas's day. Room was very good and beds are extremely comfortable. Food in restaurant was super. Breakfast - huge choice.

"The friendliest staff on earth!"
ken S, 28 Août 2017

The front desk staff, restaurant staff, and just about everyone working at this quaint hotel were simply superb and were an absolutely joy to speak to. Super professional and incredibly friendly and accommodating. When we checked in, we were given a room without a view of the lake, so we asked for a lake-view room. No problem, here you are sir. When I informed the front desk that I had a feather pillow allergy, the gentleman at the front desk personally delivered non-feather pillows to our room. The spa and sauna areas are definitely worth a visit for a few hours, though the pool was not heated. Nicely equipped rooms. Again, the staff really made this place super comfortable for us.

""American motel" atmosphere"
Amstraveler, 27 Août 2017

This nice open lakeside location a few km outside Schwerin is worth considering. The only 'downside' for us was that cars were parked next to rooms giving it a bit of US motel feel - quite rare for this part of Germany ! (... and if you're travelling without a car make sure they don't put a car parking charge on your bill). The rooms themselves were a little aged but included a basic kitchenette with fridge, the restaurant was very good so either way no need to go into town to eat. We liked staying here and would recommend.

"Thank you Yvonne M: Amazing employee!"
FourWinds_11, 27 Juillet 2017

Would have rated this a 5 except for the fact that we were told at booking that there was air-conditioning available (also advertised on the website). Upon check-in, we were told they didn't have any air-conditioning and offered us a "ventilator" -- a simple fan. We would'nt have booked there if we'dknown there was no a/c--very hot weather, and we didn't sleep well! However, with a few minor issues (no soap in bath sink dispenser, no shampoo/conditioner, extremely uncomfortable pillows), the hotel is very nice: easy drive to Schwerin, lovely lake location, clean, spacious room, decent WiFi, good breakfast buffet, excellent staff. The car we'd rented wouldn't start as we were about to check-out. We don't speak German, but Yvonne M. took charge and talked to numerous employees in Avis/Budget offices at various locations over a period of several hours to arrange a tow truck, and eventually a replacement auto. She was efficient, persistent and tough and wasn't going to take "no" for an answer. With us, she remained positive throughout, kept her friendly smile and never acted as if our problem was wasting her day. She's a gem. Seehotel Frankenhorst is lucky to have her on staff! Caution: Be careful when renting from the combo Avis/Budget agency in Hamburg if traveling to other locations. When the tow-truck mechanic couldn't start our original car, the Schwerin agency wouldn't replace it. They had not yet converted to Avis/Budget and our car was designated by Hamburg as Budget. Yvonne was told that many of the agencies haven't yet converted to Avis/Budget. With numerous calls working her way up the corporate ladder (and hours later), she finally secured a replacement auto from the Schwerin office where she'd started! The delay cost us nearly a full day, since by then we were in very slow rush-hour traffic trying to get around Hamburg and into Bremen.

"Family Reunion - Relaxing, Great Location"
leonardoneill, 18 Mai 2017

This hotel is located on the banks of a lake north of Schwerin, Germany. It has several buildings that include an indoor pool, sauna at the lake, suites, rooms and restaurant. The grounds are walk able and serene. It is a very good location for visiting Schwerin, Luebeck and other cities on the North Sea.

"Chill out guarenteed . Beautiful place."
auntylane, 13 Mai 2017

The setting is lovely. quiet and peaceful. Surrounded by nature . Large lake , lakeside sauna , swimming pool. There are rooms within the hotel and also rooms in the grounds. I've stayed in both. they are equally as good. Table & Chairs outside and sun loungers are provided for each room located in the grounds. The food is very good - great breakfast choices. The location is lovely but you do need a car ( 4km from Schrewin City Centre ) . The staff are very helpful and friendly.

"Two nights of heaven"
P7020CPstephenp, 28 Septembre 2016

Despite its rural location it is only a 10 minute drive into the city of Schwerin. The location is stunning and the facilities were excellent. Breakfast was wonderful and the staff were great. only thing that let it down was that my Laptop could not log into the WI-FI but all our other devices could. I would like to visit again and stay a little longer next time.

"Super location next to a lake"
kmr100, 24 Juin 2016

Very interesting hotel as the accommodation is in various different buildings. The location is in the countryside next to a beautiful lake. Our room was very spacious. Super restaurant. Breakfast - a super spread and very tasty. Hotel has bikes. Wifi was very slow. Indoor pool, areas outside to relax in. Nice walks. We had an adjoining room so bear this in mind as you can hear the person in the next room. Worth visiting this hotel and taking time to visit Schwerin.

"Nice and lovely hotel - now with indoor-pool!!"
Guakefu, 19 Juillet 2015

We are frequent guests for a night here. Rooms are spacious and very clean: TV offers Sky-Pay-TV. WiFI is a bit slow and unreliable, but the team is addressing the problem. Since our earlier rating the indoor-pool has been build and offers a nice view over the Schwerin-lake and the hotel-boat-pier.. We love to come back as we also find a good value-for-money ratio! Very friendly staff at reception!!

"Beautiful location with great facilities"
cheefbadger, 07 Juillet 2015

My wife and I visited the Best Western Seehotel for a couple of days on our way to a business trip and we were absolutely delighted. I always do a lot of research before we go anywhere and I liked the look of this place but you can never be sure. My first impression was good, the area around the hotel is very pretty and driving along the side of the lake in the sunshine I felt like we were going to be in a good place. We went to reception where he staff were very pleasant and we found our room easily, albeit it was in another building than the reception. Our hotel room was nice, quite big and very clean. We didn't have a view of the lake but that didn't matter. We went for a walk in the grounds which are stunning. On the lawn outside our building we sat in one of the Strandkörbe (beach seat things) and relaxed. We took a walk down to the lake which is stunningly beautiful and very cathartic. They even have a little beach!! So, despite it being very very cold, I went for a swim in the lake (I don't entirely recommend this as the sand underneath the water is a bit 'sinky' and some of the foliage a little sharp!!!). That night we went to the restaurant and had dinner. It is very expensive but the menu is quite impressive. Sadly, I think the Chef has ideas above his station as the food was not up to the menu or the price. My Wife's Lobster Bisque was Lobsterless and just Water, no taste or anything - not great and although my meal was okay, I don't think it was quite up to scratch (kind of felt like a waste of 100 buckaroos). The staff were lovely though and, as they have a piano in the dining room, they allowed me to play some music (given that he other guests didn't mind). Breakfast was not included in my booking so I paid the 10 euros each to have breakfast - it is a buffet breakfast with some hot food and lots of cheese, juice, bread etc. It was a good breakfast definitely but not the best I've had on my travels by any means. The only thing they need to remedy is the hot food selection and he cooking of it. Bacon on the first day was so hard before they put it in the Bain Marie that the only way it could be identified as Bacon was by smell. Hey had Nurnburger sausages, scrambled egg and tomatoes which was not bad. The second day they had no Sausages so chucked in some tiny hot dogs which struck me as a little weird. I think they could easily do sausage, bacon, egg, mushroom and some kind of Rosti dreiecke or Hash Brown and we would all be happy as the continental breakfast is well delivered. Okay so I have forgotten about the facilities!!! We used he swimming pool, sauna, hot tub (didn't care for it), I went boxing, used the running machine and I loved it. It was a great addition to the holiday and made it all the more exciting. There are beautiful walks around the grounds and they also have Donkeys, Alpacas and sheep to visit and talk to. I will be going back to this places - no question, but I may not eat there again.

"Exceeded expectations"
Tomas H, 06 Avril 2015

We spent two days at the hotel during easter. We were very happy. The studio we got were spacious and clean. The hotel has succeeded in combining a high class spa type hotel in magnificent surroundings with at the same time creating a family friendly atmosphere. The animals at the place are as friendly as the hotel staff :) our kids loved all of them. Can be recommended for everybody, especially in summer. Only minus was that the Internet in our room 504 was close to non existing

"Fantastic Location"
J W, 19 Novembre 2014

In historical building. In the countryside. By the lake. Rooms located in separate buildings scattered around the grounds. Spa and other nice options which I unfortunately did not have time to enjoy. Great food. Very nice indeed. Only downside is slow internet in my room (business trip) Glad I had a GPS navigator. Can be a bit difficult to find.

"Not luxury but interesting"
Morag M, 26 Août 2014

This is a very odd hotel. It felt a bit like an uprated Butlins for the middle-aged with cottages in the woods and sun loungers left out in the rain. It was very quiet and that is a plus, but it was not very welcoming. It felt as if I was in danger of breaking the rules - whatever they were. There was nothing wrong with it - it just felt as if it was stuck in a time warp. Dinner was OK but breakfast was superb and the best thing about it. Had we not be touring it might have grown on me. If you visit - look up the man who originally owned the estate on Google - very interesting history - he did well both pre-1939 and post 1945 .... which makes me curious about him.
