« Fantastic location, service and food »

We stayed 2 nights in the main building and had a room on the second floor towards the fjord with amazing views. Really clean, quiet, nice, comfy beds and absolutely nothing to put a finger on. The mail building is a renovated old woodhouse and gives a really nice sence of the old Norway. We had dinner one evening in the restaurant and enjoyed great food and service. We did not find the menu limited because in Scandinavia that usual means food is freshly made which is was and also very very tasty. Restaurant was fully booked on our second night but there are only 2 other options in town and we ended up in a pizza place which was abolutely horrible,- so best advice if you are in Sauda...eat at the hotel. The breakfirst was excellent with local touches such as home made berry-compot, fresh pressed orangejuice and other Norwegian specialities. Really nice, charming and professional service from everyone. I can`t comment on the cabins as we did not see them,- but as far as the main building and overall quality and service I would recommend this place anytime. Actually,- I am quite supriced by the mixed reviews for this place. I really dont care if this is a 2,3 or 4 star hotel because it felt really nice and cosy and everyone made us feel welcome and as valued customers. So if your not the type that are used to 5 star hotels and a choice of Tibertanian Tempeldog on the menu,- I am sure your will enjoy this place.

    « Run down cabins »

We booked a double room and ended up in one of the cabins outside of the hotel building. Although clean, this was completely run down and there was an extremely dusty smell making it difficult to breathe at night. I was happy the night was over. Fortunately we booked online and only paid a small sum (for Norway). Breakfast buffet was ok but very basic and extremely unpleasant breakfast room.

    « Disappointed »

The room was a 2-star hotel room. There are several things I would expect a 4-star hotel to do better. For example, I did not amenities like the normal coffee making station in my room. I had to ask the reception for this and even though they delivered coffee, two paper cups and a small kettle to my room, I did not receive any sugar. I also had to unpack my clothes on the desk in the room since I did not have a self in the cupboard. Furthermore, the telephone in the room did not function. This was frustrating when I wanted to make a reservation at the hotel's restaurant. On one day I came a little late for dinner (20:50) and was showed away since the kitchen closes at 21:30. During a previous visit, I could not have dessert since the kitchen was about to close. During two different visits I had to leave early in the morning to catch a boat to Stavanger (the only one for the day) and as a result I could not have breakfast since it was a few minutes before the kitchen opened (about 15min). The service was in that regard bad. In similar previous experiences from other hotels, the staff tried to accommodate by making a sandwich the previous night. Finally the information page in the room was useful but unfortunately, the hotel could not deliver on some of the promises. If you include a section on certain items that can be obtained from the reception I believe you should have those items or remove the section.

« Be aware of the cabins »

We thought to have booked a stay in the historic building from 1914. But after arrival it turned out we had to stay in one of the cabins behind the hotel. They were dark and rather small. Staff of the hotel is very friendly and helpful. And we had a nice diner in the hotel's restaurant. (Starters were a bit disappointing but the main course was very good.) If you realy want to have an excellent stay make sure that you book a room in the main building.

« This hotel has history and charm in it's walls »

My daughter and I stayed one night at this hotel. The reception and bar area is great!! It was like walking into history! The staff goes out of their way to comfort their guests. The room was clean and tidy, but lacks some of the charm from the rest of this old wooden hotel. However, the rest makes up for the room. Of you are passing through Sauda, I highly recommend you to sit down in front of the magnificent view in the bar area and relax. Enjoy!

« Faboulous veiw and excellent staff »

We visited with our two children for just one night, and we got rooms with a stunning view over the fjord. The staff were friendly and forthcomming. We had a nice dinner in the evening, and a fresh breakfast the following morning. The staff arranged for us to charge our electric car. The hotell is a bit old and bit run down, but charming and clean! We had a really nice stay her! ????

« quiet and peaceful hotel »

They were very kind and helpful for the customer. It looks little bit old from outside of hotel but it was elegant and charming hotel. Room was quite clean and big space to move around. Breakfast was quite good and variety choice and we enoyed good atmosphere.

    « Wow - what a place! »

Right from the start we received exceptional service here. We were welcomed with a smile, given a beautiful room overlooking the fjord and had a delicious evening meal, served by a polite and friendly waitress. We were shown around the interesting dining room, and told about the history of the beautiful building. The lounge area is a lovely room to relax with a drink and gaze at the fjord. The bathroom in our room was clean with a great powerful shower. The beds were lovely and comfortable. We had a beautiful room on the first floor. As per other reviews there are no lifts, but the stairs and wide and not steep. Not a problem for most people I would say. There are also little bungalows for those who can't get up stairs.

« Historical hotel with a beautiful sea view »

We stayed at Sauda Fjordhotell for a night; I mixed up the dates, we came one day early, but reception staff was extremely helpful and changed the booking even when they only found one free room. The Sauda Fjordhotell is a beautiful wood construction dating from about 1914, particularly impressing is the main room leading to the stairs with a beautiful sea view. While the hotel in general is well maintained, in some places the age just shows. While the rooms were nice and clean, the breakfast room had a worn carpet, simple old-style chairs and damaged tables. Breakfast was good, but nothing special. If you like historical hotels and wish to go to Sauda, I would recommend the Fjordhotell (the other hotel in town (Kløver) seems to be a concrete building; I can not comment on the quality.

« Pleasant and Historic Hotel »

Beautiful hotel. Dinner was very good - after the first choice was not available and the second choice (Beef Loin) was overcooked - sent it back! Beers came after a second time. Only Two persons on staff. Rooms were large and cozy. Breakfast was VERY good. Overall would recommend.

« Quaint and old fashioned »

I stayed one night here and liked it. The hotel is full of old-fashioned charm and has been kept in the style of the "salmon castles " frequented by foreign dignitaries and upper class persons of the past. It is situated in a beautiful spot with views of fjord and mountains. The hotel gardens and outside areas offer possibilities for enjoyment but look a bit tired and could do with a bit of a seeing to . The room was nice ,big and airy. The beds comfortable and the bathroom in good order. Cleanliness was good throughout. The breakfast is included in the room price and was very nice with both hot and cold dishes and most of the Norwegian specialities like pickled herring and goat cheese.
