"Wonderful service at a wonderful location"
xkatemx, 31 Octobre 2023

The location was perfect, between Santa Margarita and Portofino. We rented a Tesla and the hotel had a Tesla charging station (which we had to book in advance at 20 euros a day). The breakfast was wonderful. The hotel itself was magnificent. Staff were helpful.

"A Five Star Stay"
lauried6368, 27 Octobre 2023

On an Insight Vacations tour. This hotel is charming, elegant and comfortable. Very well run, it is centrally located to the town and it's amenities. The comfort of and the view from the balcony was very nice indeed. Good service, bar and breakfast.

"Great location but Average Hotel "
njp67, 25 Octobre 2023

We stayed 2 nights as part of a Tour Group. Location was great but our allocated room was extremely small and dated. It was the smallest room/bathroom and bed out of all the places we stayed on our 11 day tour. We had a Tour Group dinner one night which was very average, as was the wine served. Easy access to beach across the road, walking distance to shops and restaurants. Apart from the Location and staff, every thing else was disappointing.

"Amazing Experience as Usual"
esteeb65, 15 Octobre 2023

Our second stay at this hotel. Staff is always friendly and accomodating. The location is great, 6 min walk to shops and restaurants. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Great breakfast with helpful staff.

"Over priced for a tiny room"
AlanSemsar, 23 Septembre 2023

The hotel is just gorgeous but I paid $300 bucks and they put me in a room that was 80 feet or something it was so small you couldn't walk by the bed. Too bad because the location was great and so close to Portofino they should've just reduced price because it's just too much for a tiny little bed

"A great location"
phileas10106, 17 Septembre 2023

An elegant place with a great location in Santa Margherita that deserves a visit. Our stay was excellent with great staff, except at the beach where you can't seat 5 minutes without renting mattresses and a beach umbrella. The breakfast is very good and our room with a sea view was confortable. The swimming pool and jacuzzi on the terrace is a plus to get tanned and to lay back. We'll come back. A must try!

"Tired old hotel"
TravelAshler, 11 Septembre 2023

I guess the Best Western moniker should have been a dead give away. It's a decent budget motor hotel brand but the Regina Elena holds itself out as something more and delivers short. You can tell that it was once a fine hotel 100 years ago. The location is superb with beautiful ocean views and a tunnel access under the road to a private beach. This could be great! But you can barely tell that a large investment was already made to refurbish rooms with modern HVAC and finishing. But at the same time you can see that suites were split up to creat new hotel rooms out of second bedrooms resulting in accommodations no larger than a decent walk in closet. The designs fell short with exposed closets without doors, mini refrigerators not built in, linoleum flooring, pedestal sinks in the bathrooms with no counter space….. The common areas are original but not in a nostalgic design way. They are original in that you can sink deep into a velvet chair that betrays 100 years of use. The bar and seating areas would make a great film set for a 1920's movie but it's just out of date and tired. The swimming pool on the roof deck is cool but there are no umbrellas and you need to make your way down 5 floors to reception by stairs or a rickety gate elevator to fetch towels. Oh, beach chairs are an extra 50 euros a pair and the beach dining area looks like a Coney Island cafeteria from days gone by. Way by. Get the picture. Not a four star by a long shot and not worth the nightly rate.

"Weeks stay "
Mike P, 11 Septembre 2023

Paid extra for seaview which we got however our room ( 233 )was half the size of our friends who could still see the sea ( 435 ) ! The room was clean but very small with not much wardrobe and draw space. Breakfast was fine continental but in all years of travel don't think I've ever seen such as list of charges for “extras” like an omelette 10 euro etc. Restaurant was not used on the night as there was no vegetarian option and the menu didn't change all week. The evening bar service was pretty much non existent and the odd night they put a cocktail bar on between 7 and 8 they had run out of half the drinks. Beach is an additional 50 euro per couple per day and compulsory if you want to use which annoyed us so much we used an alternative. Roof top pool is old and worn and the jacuzzi is older than the hotel with about as much power as someone blowing through a straw. Roof top bar was additional 5 euro per order. Maid service was excellent. Overall staff were pleasant but a very average stay and punching above the 4 stars awarded and on a par with a 2 star. Lots of hidden extras.

"Terrific property where tranquility meets service"
851karlg, 04 Septembre 2023

Gian Paolo, Anita, Vitoria and the entire FRONT DESK team were great; Courteous, professional, helpful and very engaging. The property offers a terrific continental breakfast with an assortment of fresh bakery items & cakes, scramble eggs & bacon, yogurt, a variety of cafe lattes and much much more. Appertivo outside is great, allowing you to enjoy drinks (€14/ drink) and bites on the beautiful scenic veranda and Marco is a fantastic bartender / server. The restaurant is very good; large portions priced well and the manager, Denis is fantastic. The hotel has a rooftop jacuzzi & pool on the 5th floor. The hotel has a fitness center and beach chairs available in their very own beach club for a rental rate of €50. The hotel also offers parking on site both surface parking spaces or an underground robotic parking lot to ensure your car stays clean. My family will 100% return next summer.

"A jewel on the Ligurian Coast"
ianwilliamhunter, 08 Août 2023

The Hotel was first class in most respects. We stayed for 4 days in a family-type room as we are a family of 4. The room was large and clean, modern and inviting. Upon arrival, by our British car, the front desk staff were very welcoming and friendly, immediately putting the 3.5hr drive from Mandelieu in France behind us. The car parking on site was. convenient and secure. The town of Santa Marguerita was really only a short walk to the centre and it was a perfect location for us to explore the restaurants and activity in this beautiful town. Breakfast was included on the room rate and was plentiful, varied, fresh and delicious throughout. The hotel has a rooftop swimming pool and sauna, where it was possible to while away a few hours in relative privacy and comfort. We were even able to bring our young Cocker Spaniel dog into the restaurant where breakfast was served. The staff even presented our dog with a little goody bag, such was their professionalism and enjoyment at having us and others as their guests. We intend to return next summer. Thank you for your great hospitality. We really appreciated it.

"Has potential, but consider the time of year carefully."
Celtic_Ulysses, 04 Août 2023

Excellent accessibility to the beach and beautiful walking trails. Bus service also convenient. Some great views if you are assigned a room that faces straight right across the street. The bed was comfortable, but my room happened to be especially tight. (Other rooms I saw looked more spacious.) It had one small window that overlooked a rooftop and the garage, so did not add scenic value to the experience. Restaurant was adequate, but did not stand out. The lounge area was more inviting. Many amenities are seasonal, which is appropriate. However, the region was in the middle of an early heat wave and the central air conditioning remained off. Lack of air circulation added to several members of our party having uncomfortable rooms, ranging from very warm to hot. Again, if your room faced the water, you were probably getting a nice breeze along with that view. However, guests in rear and side-facing rooms often complained of some difficulty sleeping in those specific conditions. Unfortunately, we could have really used the room-top swimming pool, but it was not open yet for the season. If you are traveling in the height of the summer and can take advantage of the more complete range of amenities, probably a more pleasant experience.

"A wonderful experience"
tomfW1696FR, 13 Juillet 2023

Simply a fantastic hotel that is so clean and well maintained….the sheets and towels are so first class…the staff is exceptional and so smart and capable…a wonderful experience for now 22 years…Bellissimo with a wonderful view of the Mediterranean

"Small yet perfectly formed"
theseventhangel, 06 Juillet 2023

I'm not one for long reviews, but my gid, this is my idea of a perfect hotel. The staff are incredible. All speak perfect English to complement my poor Italian. Special shout out to the cat park guys who accommodated my car, and the Vespa I brought, just to ride into Portofino. 11/10

"Friendly staff and great location"
Derek B, 09 Juin 2023

Excellent base for visits to Portofino (bus stop outside hotel) and train to Cinque Terre. Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Nice, well equipped room with lateral sea view. Good breakfast buffet. Lovely rooftop area with small pool.

"HAPPY CUSTOMER"
lovies19, 06 Juin 2023

recently stayed with wife at the BW Regina Hotel in Santa Margherita and had a overall great experience, good value for money. Staff were very attentive and helpful. We liked the private beach and facilities on offer.

"Perfect location and wonderful staff"
Jacqui B, 02 Mai 2023

The hotel was perfect for location, only a few minutes to Santa Margherita Marina and 40 mins walk to Portofino. My 2 friends and I had a single room each and they were great. Hotel is quite quirky, and we loved the sitting area which was like a grand living room. And on top of this the staff were absolutely great. Friendly, professional and helpful. Highly recommend. ( and a big thanks to the hotel staff for returning an item of clothing I left behind)

"Excellent experience"
Bruno T, 02 Novembre 2022

Perfectly located hotel between Santa Margherita (1km) and Portofino (4km), in front of a panoramic .Very rich breakfast, very confortable bed and pillows, perfectly clean room and friendly staff. Dinner of good quality efficiently served.

"OUTSTANDING, AS USUAL!"
ginsengNewYork, 31 Octobre 2022

This hotel is lovely in many ways, but what sets it apart and Above is really the wonderful, caring, professional and hard working staff who bend over backwards to make your stay unforgettable! Thank you Anita, Francesca, Sylvia for your patience and good humour! We just cannot wait to go back.

"Wow, what a view!"
retiredmama1955, 20 Septembre 2022

Within walking distance to everything! The views from any window are wonderful! The staff is quite helpful, and the breakfast staff were excellent! The bar area was quite comfortable. The rooms were clean and roomy.

"a classic Santa Margherita hotel with continuous updates, great staff, very clean, wonderful breakfast, terrific"
tomfW1696FR, 12 Septembre 2022

we have now stayed at the Regina Elena for 20 years, run by the charming Piergiorgio Ciana, this lovely staff takes care of all your needs, wonderful fresh linens, so very clean, they have expanded the classic inside dining room to include tables set on the outside patio in the front that have views the mare, the food is also new upscale and modern Ligurian dishes presented in a stylish way, great parking and they also now have 5 ev chargers if needed, an easy walk to the centro, also the last hotel on the way to Portofino...great location and a safe place to enjoy life

"We will gladly come back to this hotel"
242margaritag, 09 Septembre 2022

We rested in the hotel for 6 days, a beautiful room with a balcony overlooking the sea and the city. The service staff is very qualified, the room is cleaned daily with the change of towels and bedding. the beach is across the road. We enjoyed our vacation immensely. Highly recommend

"NEVER AGAIN"
O2tto, 29 Août 2022

The experience at this hotel was terrible. First I was assigned a different room category than the one I booked. Eventually, they changed it to only find out later on (after I had unpacked) that the new one was located under the pool area which is terribly noisy (they would not ask their staff to pay more attention to the noise, guests have to deal with it till 7pm). They did offer to change rooms to a lower category overlooking the road this time which I refused). The staff had the biggest attitude. The parking area is the most inconvenient one (automatic underground system which requires you to queue to get your car in and out - waited for about 20mn once to get my car out). Never tried their F&B so can't comment but I would never consider this hotel ever again. The only positive is the location which is convenient.

"Substandard hotel with major issues"
Nerseh, 04 Août 2022

This is our 4th time visiting SMA and this hotel is the worst we have stayed in. The room we were initially given was next to a maids service station overlooking a very dirty roof top. The furniture in the room was extremely tired and dated and the room was the size of a closet with next to zero natural light. We had booked for a weeks stay and decided we couldn't stay in that room. Reception told us that there were no other rooms available. After 30 minutes of going back and forth another room was finally “found”. We were told that there would be an extra 100 euro per night in addition to the 300 we had already paid. We were honestly left with no choice other than to take the room as the initial room was not habitable in our opinion. The new room is spacious with great views but unfortunately the balcony is infested with ants which bite, there is black mould in the room and there is a huge crack in the bathroom sink just to name a few issues. In addition to all this, the pool is by reservation only and you only get a 1.5 hour slot otherwise there is a 50 euro charge to use the beach! The whole thing is an absolute joke! Francesca, the lady at reception did try her very best to try and solve some of these issues but unfortunately the management at the hotel have no interest in pleasing there guests and don't seem to care at all about letting out substandard rooms. We will not be staying here again, especially as there are so many other hotels with just as good a location but with much better customer care!

"Excellent staff and Location"
ginamaull19, 31 Juillet 2022

We came for a friends wedding! The location was perfect for us to walk to grab coffee and to the wedding venue! The beach was steps away and the staff were above and beyond! They spoke great English and were so willing to guide us and answer all our questions!

"Very good but the beach area"
44guido, 29 Juillet 2022

Excellent place, location and service. A place to visit if you are not planning to use their beach area. The beach has awful personnel with bad service and horrible food and coffee. It's a great hotel but plan to use other beaches than the hotel's one.

"Outstanding Visit to Hotel Regina Elena"
klfm24, 06 Juillet 2022

Family/Friends vacation to Santa Margherita. A great time was made possible by the hard working staff at BW Regina Elena. We were a large group of 22 people. Even b/f we arrived the staff answered our questions about pool & beach chair reservations. I had multiple questions about our timing, and my emails were always returned promptly. Sylvia helped with dinner reservations in nearby Portofino - and phoned the restaurants even though it was late. She was so kind and accommodating. The room and common areas of the hotel clean and they disinfected the pool/beach between guests. Francesca, Sylvia, Alessandra, Alice and Joseph and the beach team did a phenomenal job. We will definitely stay with Regina Elena again because of this crew! As a side, the laundry service outstanding - Grazie mille! Karen

"Fabulous stay in Santa Margherita Ligure"

"Would definitely come back!"
sotsoy, 06 Juin 2022

This was my first time to Santa Margharita Ligure. From check in to check out the hotel was amazing with very friendly staff. A special shout out to Alice who was very helpful, patient and informative. I would definitely stay here again. Rooms were comfortable, breakfast buffet kept us full and the walk into town was easy and short.

"Comfortable hotel by the sea"
GaliaMK, 17 Mai 2022

Nice hotel, very friendly staff, the location is handy and the wifi works well. Breakfast was included and it was good. We also had dinner at their restaurant, and was very nice. From the hotel is easy and pleasant to walk downtown. We didn't get a room with a view, but the hotel is facing the beach, what is nice. We had our laundry done, and they did a good job. The bedroom and bathroom were comfortable and clean, good bed and pillows, good shower, the hair dryer was no terrible but it could be better. We enjoyed our stay in this hotel.

"A great place to stay!"
mollimercer1994, 24 Octobre 2021

Great location & great staff!! We booked our room on the day due to deciding to stay new Portafino & the staff were very accommodating. We got upgraded to a sea view room which was fab! Bed was comfy, bathroom was equip with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hairdryer & plenty of towels. The whole room was very clean and we were able to use sun screens on the balcony. Definitely a great place to stay!

"Outstanding place"
Cape-Town-Steve, 30 Septembre 2021

I returned here 25 years after my first visit! I planned a 3-day stay and enjoyed it so much I stayed a week. It is the staff that make it more than just a nice hotel. From the manager to every member of staff I met - they were consistently kind and incredibly helpful. I'm going back next year for my birthday!

"EXCELLENCE AGAIN ANG AGAIN"
ginsengNewYork, 12 Septembre 2021

Hotel with many assets where we love to return! The location by the sea, at the edge of Santa Margherita and minutes away from Portofino is just splendid. The hotel private beach is delightful with a large area for children, an informal bar/restaurant where the food is delicious (don't miss the fresh seafood salad ), and many sunbeds and umbrellas where you can relax all day long (the 50eu charge per day for two sunbeds is well worth it). There is also a swimming pool with jacuzzi and solarium on the top floor with view of the sea, however, in this pandemia age, one needs to book a slot, which I do find reassuring. The hotel has a great private parking, a must in this area ! Bikes are also provided at no cost (great to go to Portofino). Good buffet breakfast manned by employees in the dining room or on the terrace. Staff is exceptional, professional and very congenial ! Thank you Anita, Francesca and PierGiorgio! PS. Sta Margherita has many activities and events in the summer: don't miss the concerts at Parco Durazzo, nor the yoga on the public beach, nor the weekly huge food and clothes market!

"Not to come back"
ive s, 07 Septembre 2021

Correct but not friendly reception The room was 280 euro for a small and noisy room. A third bed occupied almost 1/3 of the room. Which we did not ask!!! We had to pay 50 euro for a day at the beach of the hotel!!!! The pool was at the rooftop and there was a ridiculous reservation system to acces Breakfast was like lunch at a public boarding school:

"ATTENTION AMERICANS !!!!"
211relaxing, 08 Juillet 2021

I am a long time visitor to the area and normally stay in other hotels. My hotel stay was absolutely the worst. I love Italy and I get we are in a foreign country but we stayed two nights and we asked them more then 5 times to check our AC as it was at minimum 80 degrees in our room at all times room 531 - we got BS lip service each time - they all said we turned it on now or we will check - it was so ridiculously hot the entire time that we left early just to get to our car for some AC. I get it is hot and I am use to the relatively poor AC but this was straight neglect. DO NOT WASTE YOUR moNEY on this place - they do not care

"Nice hotel with a good location"
Kirsikka15, 21 Septembre 2020

We stayed in the hotel three nights with my husband 16.-19.09.20. The room was okay but needs renovation very soon. I liked the location just at the beach but 40€ per two sunbeds a day is too much. And when I tried to get some discount for the morning at the beach it was not possible. This I found very weird as the beach was not full so I did not understand why? When you walk 300m to the next beach you can get the whole day 23€ and half day 19€. Breakfast was very good. I would come back for the location but nothing else.

"CLASS ACT! AND GREAT ANTI-COVID19 MEASURES!"
ginsengNewYork, 28 Août 2020

Very impressed with all the anti-covid19 measures set up in this hotel! Was a bit hesitant to travel because of my auto immune disease, but am totally reassured after 9 days spent in this amazing hotel: masks worn by everyone, all meals have to be reserved and tables are set apart and totally cleaned between guests, breakfast buffet is protected by glass and manned by waiters, hydroalcoolic gel is found everywhere even in elevators, room keys are constantly disinfected, pool and beach access is well organized with loungers set widely apart, very smooth operation, they even clean kids'sandbox and beach toys! Totally amazing, safe and enjoyable! Thank you Francesca, Anita, Pier Giorgio, and everyone, for all your efforts to keep us safe, and for making our stay a memorable one! PS: Great zabaglione and chocolate birthday cake: Congratulations to the chef!

"Perfect hotel for enjoying the wonderful location"
StefanoLosvedese, 16 Août 2020

The staff at the hotel was fantastic. We have been travelling with our son who is 8 years old. At the restaurant all the waiters have been outstanding, a special thanks to Denis and Eugenio always careful to any need we had. Food was great and they were all very careful with the Covid rules, which made us feel very safe. The sea in front of the hotel is just stunning, with plenty of snorkeling sites and very clean water. We will surely come back. Thank YOU

"Superb Staff, View, and Breakfast at this Charming Hotel"
dino328gtb, 25 Octobre 2019

I arrived all discombobulated and partially deaf (from flying ear-block). Gian Paolo at reception quickly helped me with parking and issued me my key to a very nice room with a view of the sea and a great balcony. Additionally, Isabella, at reception tried to help me with making an Autostrade payment on the Business Center computer. Although, we couldn't get an internet connection, she was very sympathetic to my plight and helpful. This is a great location for visiting the area, especially the Portofino area where parking is troublesome. Just take the bus from the stop right out in front of the hotel and don't fight the traffic. NOTE: tickets are sold at the reception desk. The rooftop pool is fantastic, offering indescribable views and a large sundeck. The buffet breakfast was the best I had in Italy, bountiful, diverse with local specialty offerings, and delicious. Dine inside or on the patio. There are several beaches in front of the hotel and the promenade of Santa Margherita Ligure is a great stroll and easily walkable. Parking is offered at 20 euro and street parking almost nonexistent. Also, the lifts were tiny for my 6'4", 125kg frame with luggage (hahaha), but workable. Good free WiFi.

"Awful"
MinetteB95, 13 Octobre 2019

We arranged airport pickup 3 weeks ahead of our flight into Genoa. We re-confirmed our airline, flight number and contact number the day before we arrived. Our flight arrived early, but by the time we waited for our carry-on bags to be unloaded as it was a small plane, took a bus to the terminal it was only 10 minutes ahead of my best guess pick up time of 1:45. When we exited baggage claim into the small terminal there were six drivers with name cards. None of them were ours. We walked around the terminal a few times with no luck before going out to where the taxis were, thinking our driver might be there. The hotel gave us no clue as to where he would be and didn't give us a number to call him. At 1:40 I called the hotel and was told that since our flight arrived early the driver assumed he missed us and had left but that they would call him and have him return. I called 8 minutes later and was told they couldn't reach him but they would get back to me. After 24 hours of flying I told them we would wait 5 more minutes but then would take one of the ten taxis parked right in front of us. While I was making these calls my husband went back into the terminal and walked all around looking for our driver. After my third call they told me they still couldn't reach the driver but wanted us to keep waiting. I told them we had waited 30 minutes and that was long enough. We took one of the airport taxis and had to pay 40 Euros more. The front desk apologized when we checked in and we thought the matter was settled. After traveling half way around the world we just wanted to rest and enjoy our vacation. A few hours later I went to the front desk and asked for a local map. I was accosted by I assume the manager and assistant manager asking me what had happened. I recounted the situation to them. Instead of an apology I was tersely told that “Since we were no shows the hotel had to pay the driver”, I told them we we not no shows. We were there and called the hotel 3 times and got no valid answers and after waiting 30 minutes we had to find our own transportation. The manager then rudely told me “Well, you can decide whether you want to pay for it.” She then rudely turned her back on me and walked into her office and shut the door on me. I tried re-explaining what had taken place to the assistant manager. I asked her why hadn't the driver call us - I emailed our phone number? Why weren't we given the driver's name and phone number in case we couldn't find him? She wouldn't answer this, she just told me that this driver picks their guests up all the time and there has never been a problem. I told her we have been picked up dozens of times by hotel arranged drivers and we have never had a problem. Here is what we are left with. We were at the airport. They had our flight information. We waited 30 minutes, searched the very small terminal 3 times, and called the hotel 3 times before finding other transportation. We performed our due diligence. The hotel is now blaming us and insinuating we should pay their driver even though they can provide no proof that he was ever there. Instead of enjoying our vacation we now find ourselves in a hostile uncomfortable environment in a foreign country. We are copying this to our friends and family should any unexpected retribution occurrences take place.

"Impressive older style of property"
islandgirl436, 08 Octobre 2019

We stayed for three nights on a Riviera holiday. Hotel is older style lovely chandeliers and grand rooms, at the edge of town, but an easy walk to all the shops, restaurants, beach area just across the road. We had a room with a balcony and sea view. Rooms are very small, only just able to walk around the bed, bathroom okay. We found Breakfast was very good, except for only one coffee machine. Most hotels these days have two or three, so a little wait to get your coffee, when travelling with a group of 32. Our evening meal was included, very large portions, four course dinners were fine, just a mix up at our table on the last night, five of us waiting for the main course, whilst the others on the table had already eaten theirs. Service was efficient but not friendly. The hotel is a good base for seeing the area, easy to visit Portofino and Cinque Terra by local boats.

"Amazing Staff and Location"
JJMade, 07 Octobre 2019

Just wanted to say HUGE thank you to Francesca and her great team( Giardano, Jean Paul, Christian, Alice for making my stay in Italy amazing!!!! The warm smiles, food and ever so helpful in everything was simply astounding and appreciative, so thank you ever so much. I hope to visit again soon. Thank you JJ

"Good location"
Oakworthgirl, 29 Septembre 2019

We stayed here as a party of 47 as part of a Rivera Holidays tour group. We were here for 3 nights on a half-board basis. We were in room 226, a lovely large room with a sea facing balcony. It was clean, comfortable with all the amenities we are used to having in a modern European hotel. The shower was tiny, barely 150cm square, but it worked and it was fine. The lifts are also tiny, barely accommodating 2 of us and our suitcases, but again, they worked and it was fine, albeit a bit rickety. Food here was ok. Dinner service was swift and efficient. Buffet breakfast was ok too. The best selling point for this hotel was the location which was very convenient for walking into town (5 - 10 mins) to get to the shops, train station, ferry and charter boats and the busses. You could even walk to Portofino in under an hour along the coast. There is an excellent rooftop heated pool and the views up there are lovely.

"Upgraded hotel non helpful manager"
Companion280463, 25 Septembre 2019

We spent two nights here and loved the location. The rooms were very clean, new showers, and comfortable beds. You can see the effort Best Western has made to make this a comfortable stay. Just across the street is the beach. Fantastic roof top lounge area with a pool. The one comment I heard over and over was about the manager who appears to be unhappy in his work, and this shows in his demeanor. He is very inflexible and that carries over to the staff (some). Food? forget about it! Go someplace else to eat. Short walk downtown with plenty of options.

"Our recent visit to Ligure"
Cosybears, 23 Septembre 2019

The hotel is situated on the sea front. The bedroom was side facing, clean but there were no drawers, only a wardrobe. We did get a turn down service and our towels were refreshed during the evening. The food was very good and lots of it. The pool on the roof was very small.

"Excellent location and the friendliest staff"

For visiting Portofino, Santa Margherita ligure is the perfect choice of places to stay. The hotel is in an excellent location, with the bus stop to Portofino directly outside the hotel and the ferry service a 10 minute walk. The hotel is lovely, the rooms are good and the views stunning. We stayed bed and breakfast and the breakfasts were very good.

"Good location "
Ellen4719, 20 Septembre 2019

We stayed here with a small group at the end of a tour. It was so pleasant and relaxing. We had rooms overlooking the water so it was great to sit out on our patio and watch the boats passing. The room was comfortable and kept clean by housekeeping. There were plenty of beach chairs to rent and free beach towels daily. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fine with the regular fare of fruit, pastries, cereal, coffee, tea, yogurt, eggs . The breakfast room is large and light with lots of windows, which is a great way to start the day.

The experience in this hotel is terrible! The breakfast is so bad!Staff people aren't nice and they dont speak a fluent english ! It' noisy and it has a claustrofobic elevator. The beach of the hotel is worse than others nearby!

"Good bits and bad bits"
JeannieW_21, 14 Septembre 2019

Overall, a reasonable stay at this hotel. What we liked: the balcony and the view from the room. The location on the sea front. The bathroom, with a good sized bath. Clean. Not noisy at night. The beach club, although you do have to pay 10 euros per person for a sun bed, and there were stinging jellyfish in the sea (not the hotel's fault!). Tea/coffee making facilities (though we did have to keep asking for tea bags). The hot tub on the roof terrace. Santa Margherita itself, which is a great base for exploring the coast there - it is a pleasant stroll to Portofino and Rapallo, or you can get there also by bus or ferry. Genoa on the train. Boat trip to Cinque Terre. What we didn't like: the beds were rather hard, not the worse we've ever had but not the most comfortable either. The breakfast was only average although there was plenty of choice and the free coffee from the machine was unpleasant (you can pay extra for coffee if you want, so they must know it's not much good). We just drank the juice instead. The staff on reception were polite enough but always seemed rather harrassed - query overworked, not enough staff? We were given different advice by different reception staff - we wanted to book taxi for an early trip to the train station for return home and were advised by one staff member that we should just ask in the morning; as I felt this was a bit vague, I asked another staff member later and they said that we needed to book, and booked taxi for us. This worked well and taxi turned up five minutes early. Taxi cost us 25 euro at 7.50am - we had done the same trip at around 9.00am earlier in the week and it was 15 euro. When we queried this with the taxi driver, he said it was due to the early hour. The hotel is positioned on the sea front quite a way from the train station - approx 30-45 min walk depending how quick you walk and around 15-30 min walk from ferry and main restaurant/shopping area of town.

"Excellent location, friendly staff , vety helpful and knowledgeable"
261josephy, 16 Août 2019

This hotel has an excellent location , it is near all Santa Margherita Main restaurants and shops its takes 5 to 10 minutes walk to get to the center of santa margherita with many restaurants and shops alongs the way not to mention the great landscape and it takes a 5 minutes bus ride to get to portofino (the bus stop is literally in front of the hotel) and around 10 mins to get to the train station. They have a private beach and the staff is very helpful and kind plus they have a private pool and jacuzzi on the roof. Breakfast is rly good especially the lemon cake do not hesitate to book your room and enjoy Santa Margherita and portofino

"Lovely Classic Hotel."
sattamsattam, 04 Août 2019

The preservation of this historic hotel. The rooms are very well maintained although everything was old. The staff were very friendly & helpful. The fact being an old 4 Star Hotel does not make it cheap in terms of its daily rate. It's expensive, but it's location makes it worth staying here. The only negative thing I would say is free access to its private beach is totally free, but you have to pay €20 per sun bed which I frankly think should be free. I have stayed at Miami Beach hotels many many times and had never had to pay for sun beds as it is inclusive with your room rate.

"Beautiful hotel and location!"
mimarg, 11 Juillet 2019

Loved this area! Santa Margherita is an adorable town. This hotel is beautifully situated on the sea and a short walk (or use rental bikes they have) from town. Food and local wine was delicious. Good buffet for breakfast, great seaside area with umbrellas and loungers available to rent with dock to swim from. The sea was crystal clear and beautiful! The room we had was nice, not large, but well appointed and functional. Safe is small, so probably wouldn't fit just lap tops.

"It's all about the real estate"
Vixvegas, 05 Juillet 2019

This hotel has the distinct advantage of being a historic gem of a property in an amazing location. However it pained me to see the underutilized strengths of the property. The bar and lounging areas are beautiful and historic yet extremely under utilized while the main checkin area is small, crowded and gives a poor first impression. The rooms are very small but the bathrooms are as tiny as cruise ship bathrooms. While I understand the historic nature of the property much can be done to make the space it better utilized and updated. The pool was a huge disappointment - outdated in both appearance and construction. The gym should either be updated ( the four pieces of equipment in the tiny basement room) or eliminated- I visit and use every hotel gym and had not seen an exercise bike like that since 1966 or so. This hotel is a Beautiful location and lovely bones but truly needs a reset.

"Lovely Hotel"
JackieJohno, 15 Juin 2019

My husband & recently spent 3 nights at this hotel for our 25th wedding anniversary & thoroughly enjoyed it. Hotel is in a great spot within walking distance to restaurants, shops & beach. The staff are very friendly & gave us a complimentary bottle of prosecco for our anniversary which was very much appreciated. Whilst our room was a little small it had everything we needed & our views certainly made up for it, we were on the top floor with beautiful ocean views. We loved Santa Margherita and hope to come back one day. Jackie & Mark - Australia

"Excellent location"
ShropshireBorn, 10 Juin 2019

Fairly modern hotel with excellent staff, clean and comfortable. Location good for wandering in to town. Breakfasts were good with a wide choice. Worth checking rooms before accepting as there seem to be a great difference in sizes. Whilst there may be some slight traffic noise those with a sea view, especially on the higher floors, should be the ones asked for. Recommended.

"5 Star Fantastic Customer Experience - Best of the Very Best Hotel Staff!!! "
jrseraz-sd, 14 Mai 2019

I have stayed at Regina twice now and each time it was a fantastic Customer Experience. Everything about this hotel is practically perfect but what makes it a 10 star hotel is the staff. We had a sea view room with a wraparound patio that is just perfect. The roof top has a pool and provides 360 view of beautiful San Margherita, the bay and the gorgeous hill side homes and estates. Breakfast is traditional and the hotel bar and reception area is equally as charming. The staff are without a doubt some of the hotel industry's Best of the Best! The love what they do, they love their customers and they have taken ownership of this beautiful hotel and strive to continue to make your visit even better than the previous stay. Anita, Francesca, Alice, Isablella, Gian Palo, Lucca and Christian are nothing short of amazing. They are knowledgeable, they are role models for providing excellent customer service, they are extremely efficient, they have a gift for making each one of their customers feel welcomed, special and grateful that you have chosen to stay at their beautiful hotel.... After a lifetime of staying in some of the first class hotels and resorts.... I know this wonderful team will spoil you and raise your expectations of what a truly wonderful Customer Experience can be. You will be treated as family and you will be eager to return! Love the hotel Regina, the caring staff and most of all the World Class Customer Service!

"Another Wonderful Stay"
John B, 24 Avril 2019

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Regina Elena on our spring trip in France and Italy. We have stayed at the hotel many times and had another wonderful experience in March 2019. Our room was fantastic with balcony and a view of the Mediterranean Sea. The staff and the restaurant were excellent. We also had private parking for our car. The hotel is very well located to explore the city and the region.

"Beautiful hotel"
June6186, 20 Avril 2019

I wish I could have spent more time at this location. This is a beautiful hotel in a wonderful location. It is right on the ocean at the far end. The hotel was clean. The bathroom was clean. We loved the rain shower head. We had nice little balcony. The train station is about a 20 minute walk away from the hotel. The night life is nice. It is very serene and quaint.

"Very nice hotel, great view and good location"
Spitfire72, 10 Février 2019

Santa Margherita and Portofino are not exactly cheap destinations, especially in August when we took a few days holiday. However, at Regina Elena we were able to grab a very good offer, at eventually the price was all right for the value and good quality we got. Rooms are all right, breakfast is excellent, the private beach is clean and well kept, although crowded (as all beaches in Italy during high season). Our room had a nice balcony with front sea view and was a great spot to relax in the evening after a long day of sightseeing or at the beach. Staff is friendly, professional and helpful. Parking facility was also very convenient. The hotel has a wonderful roof swimming pool: just a pity that it closes too early in the evening: it would be best to enjoy it at night! All in all we wish to recommend this place and we will surely come back.

"Very nice"
travelgalBC, 15 Janvier 2019

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel in the summer. The room was very clean and bright. Good breakfast and a choice of indoor or outdoor seating. The beach was a bit rocky but it was easy to swim from the little wharf. Nice sitting area in lobby for a drink.

"Nice location"
nacpeye, 08 Décembre 2018

Right on the bay, but at the end of the strip. Rooms were just OK. Just don't use Insight Vacations to get here...Horrible! Beautiful area with tons of restaurants and shops. This is an area that we would return to.

"Great value for good quality"
wanderlustravel, 12 Novembre 2018

We had a great experience at this hotel, the room had a lot of space, it was quite, the cleaning crew came at the right times everyday, etc. As a couple traveling Europe for 3 months wanting to visit Portofino at a good night, this place was amazing, the hotel is good quality, the location is great, the food is good, the service is excellent, the staff if friendly and speak several languages. Highly recommended

"Great Hotel "
BarnsleyLad22, 28 Octobre 2018

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in October and had a great stay. The hotel is is a good location with easy access to the town and has public transport close by. The staff were very welcoming and provided lots of information on the hotel and the local area

"Great"
cindyl289, 17 Octobre 2018

First time in Italy, wasn't too confident in the travel agent's choice of Best Western. This is really a BW in name only. The hotel has an old world charm in the decor. Really lovely. The lobby, bar, lounge area are gorgeous. The view of the bay was beautiful. Everyone is super friendly, from the front desk to the wait staff. And genuine. Very fortunate that everyone spoke enough English that we were able to communicate. The staff at the front desk is top notch. Helped me figure out the bus to Portofino and the train into Monterosso. We had lunch at the restaurant when we arrived, we were starved. Pleasantly surprised at the level of service and food. Extraordinary. The breakfast was also a lovely surprise. Plentiful, wide range of assorment. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Bar was a lovely respite every evening. Beautiful rooms to just lounge and sip our cocktails. Rooftop pool had great views. Water very cold. It was refreshing after a day of walking around town but could not see myself “swimming”. The hot tub water was about bath tub temp. Location can't be beat. Within walking distance into town. Beautiful views. The bus stop into Portofino is right in front of the hotel. Very convenient. Okay, the rooms. No electronic keys here. Actually a key attached to a big brass keychain. I liked it. I had a single which was more than enough room for me. Little tight but since we weren't spending a lot of time inside I wasn't worried about it. The bathroom seemed typical European size. If you are expecting a lot on counter space, it's not going to happen. The desk came in handy but my stuff was all over the place. Shower? Not the greatest water pressure. And it was a half tub that you could sit in. The problem with it is the side of the tub were high. I had to climb in and watch my foot placement. There is an anatomically correct seat built in so if you aren't careful you're stepping on an uneven section of tub. And the half door? Bizarre. I'm 5'2”. The shower was barely big enough to fit me. Anyone bigger would have trouble. My parents had a double room and their shower was more spacious. If you can, request a room with a water view. At the front of the hotel. My room faced the back. Not a view but again didn't spend much time there. Nice little balcony. The electronic shutters were a little loud. Didn't make it onto their private beach. Looks like the chairs and that part of the property could use some updating. If you're a smoker, there are lounge chairs and the restaurant patio seating that you can grab. Great stay, would def come back here.

"Loved it"
Debbie D, 07 Octobre 2018

Lovely friendly hotel in a beautiful location. Bed was a bit hard and balcony not very private as no wall to separate next doors but apart from that it was perfect. View perfect. Really friendly reception, breakfast adequate and within walking distance of loads of shops and restaurants. Went on the bus to Portofino and on the ferry to Rapallo. Had a fab time and would recommend this hotel.

"Delightful hotel is great waterfront location!"
Cindy C, 04 Octobre 2018

Delightful hotel is great waterfront location! Excellent service! Beautiful views! Thoughtful amenities. Short walk to many fabulous waterfront restaurants and attractions. Beautiful walk from this hotel in Santa Margherita to Portofino!

"Great location"
suzanne n, 03 Octobre 2018

Perfectly located on the water with a spectacular view from balcony of the harbor and coastline. Room is adequate size but beds are a bit hard for my taste and the pillows are equally hard. Bathroom nicely appointed but the shower is narrow and the door into the shower even narrower. Good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Breakfast is the standard European fare but here you have the option to cook your own fresh egg soft or hard boiled in a little basket. I have never seen this before in any place I have traveled. There is a rooftop pool & hot tub and a private beach for the hotel guests. I would stay here again.

"Very basic rooms!"
Beverly M, 19 Septembre 2018

We stayed at this Best Western in April, 2018. The rooms are small and very basic but they were clean. There breakfast had a variety of items and was very good. It was in walking distance to the beach, Restaurants and shopping.

"Nice hotel , great location"
mxsx01, 02 Septembre 2018

The location is great. Some rooms have a great view on the sea and the beach , especially the view from the rooftop (with a little pool) is fantastic. Staff is very friendly and professional. Some rooms could need a makeover, though. I must admit that it has been a decade that I haven't been in such a small single room. The small size made it uncomfortable to stay in, so luckily there was no bad weather and there is a bar/lounge area in the hotel, the rooftop and the beach (20,- Euros for a deckchair, though, even for hotel guests) . Using the hotel car park is not cheap either (20,- / day) but that's more understandable, seen the lack of space around there.

"Lovely hotel and what a view!! "
Shawn K, 30 Août 2018

We arrived after an 8 hour drive along the Italian Riviera from Nice...spectacular in itself...to be pleasantly surprised by the Regina Elena...very well maintained with a lovely lounge and bar, spacious dining room with an al fresco area...fantastic for breakfast. The charge of €5 for breakfast is astonishing in itself as it is plentiful and more than enough to satisfy the largest of appetites. Staff were charming and well presented...and also very helpful regarding local information. Our room (429) had the most spectacular view over the bay and was spotlessly clean and modern in style. The mattress may be a bit hard for some but it suited us fine. The rooftop terrace and pool were fantastic and again...very well maintained. Our trip was a birthday present for my partner and she was over the moon with the hotel...well done all concerned!!

"Overpriced motel "
soph47, 13 Août 2018

Although the location and view of this hotel are wonderful, the hotel itself leaves much to be desired. For the price they charge the service is not up to par. There basically is no service to speak of. The property advertises a private beach for hotel guests, however upon arrival at said beach you are charged a fee for a beach chair. The Wi-Fi and the A/C are both very weak, and the breakfast is less than appetizing. If you stay here prepare to be unimpressed, overcharged, and longing for more.

"3 Euro charge for hot drinks at breakfast"
Janis L, 31 Juillet 2018

Overall we enjoyed our stay at this hotel, The hotel was clean and comfortable but downstairs lounge and bar were rather dated. the view from the rooftop were superb and the bus stop directly outside the hotel allows easy transport to Portofino or into Santa Margherita itself. However having booked bed and breakfast we were taken aback to find a $3 euro charge for each hot drink taken at breakfast. This was not mentioned at the time bit added to the bill. special mention should be mad of Francesca on reception who went out of her way to be helpful

"Solo visit "
Plutotravel, 24 Juillet 2018

I highly recommend this as a hotel for a base for Portofino. Santa Marguerita Ligure is a delightful beach resort town with a lot to offer. The hotel has a bus directly outside to Portofino and you can save yourself a taxi ride from the SM station on arrival as there the Portofino bus will drop you outside of the hotel. Not so happy about having to pay 20euro a day to sit on a beach lounger at the private beach. The single hotel room is small but has good storage space. The breakfast was lovely. The hotel has lots of nice lounges inside for having a quiet drink. On the whole you can't go too far wrong booking this hotel. I'd love to go back sometime. Enjoy!

"Potential"
GoudyUrsus ., 14 Juillet 2018

I stayed here for four nights recently. The pool and Jacuzzi area on the roof, although small, is excellent with great views. The location is also good and the private beach is expensive but with a great atmosphere and good services available. It is also a rocky beach with no sand. Breakfast was ok a reasonable selection but the juice, cheese and meats was not brilliant, and the hotel is a little tired and dated in its decor which I feel is a shame as it has so much potential with the location etc. For the price, I was a little disappointed and I do not feel the pictures on the website truly reflect the hotel in general. I just feel a little investment in this hotel could go a long way. I must however compliment almost all the staff in being friendly, helpful and courteous at all times. This includes the housekeeping and beach staff. I would like to pay particular compliments to Francesca and Valentina on the front desk who were so helpful, kind, answered all our questions and made recommendations for us during our stay. They made us feel very welcome and valued as customers from the moment we entered to the moment we left and I believe they are a real credit to this hotel. I also witnessed them delivering this exceptional level of customer service to other customers. Had it not been for the excellent staff I would have rated this hotel two stars.

"breathtaking Santa Margheruta"
sudhirkhanna50, 12 Juillet 2018

We stayed here only for a night and regretted not staying longer. The hotel has a good location away from the city center but is walkable distance from it. The bus stops right in front of the hotel. The sea view facing rooms have a great view. Being a Best Western, the rooms were small in size. The swimming pool on the roof with a breathtaking view of the city and sea is a dream come true. The breakfast was really great as was the dinner we had in the hotel.Staff is very polite and helpful.

"great location and service"
Steven C, 10 Juillet 2018

What a location to spend a week...views from the roof top are second to none anywhere... good rooms, well presented breakfast, good beach access ( under the road), close pleasant walk to main shopping zone and staff was accommodating.Did not have a meal at the restaurant so sorry cannot comment . Very clean .. friendly locals and worth a swim in the Med brrrrr..Not sure the hotel has a common area although the roof top swimming pool area could fit the bill..

"Location and views!!"
Kate M, 01 Juillet 2018

Sadly only stayed one night, so didn't take advantage the beach access, but this hotel was lovely. The room was smaller than others we'd stayed in while in Italy, but we really didn't spend much time there. Its main advantage was location! Across the street from the beach, but the entire port was walk-able from the hotel, even Portafino was a short distance. Staff was superb and always accommodating, always letting me try to use my basic Italian, while fully capable of English the entire time! I wish I could have stayed so much longer...... If you like port cities, this is one you should try, and this is the hotel to do it!

"Very enjoyable stay at Regina Elena"
Susan B, 28 Juin 2018

A very clean and comfortable hotel, excellent service and food. We booked half board and glad we did as spent all day travelling and back to the hotel late. We enjoyed a four course meal tasting the local Italian cuisine. Breakfast was good although the juice was not fresh and not to my taste so to make up for it I had a plate of fresh fruit to start with. We had a side sea view, a small balcony. It is a modern hotel not with the typical Italian style high ceilings as we are used to so had to put the air con on. I'm a light sleeper but it was a quiet air con machine so no problem. Santa Margherita is a lovely town so pleased a chose it for our weeks stay. Our hotel is situated about a mile from the train station which we walked to most days. walking right along the beach front and marina. 3 miles away from Portofino so we walked there on our the first day took a boat back lovely scenery. The churches in Santa Margherita were stunning inside better that some of the larger churches we visited.

"Perfect location! Easy hike to Portofino"
GlobeTrotters8587, 23 Juin 2018

Santa Margherita is soooo underrated. It's way cheaper to stay here and a hike to Portofino takes only 45min. Did I mention this hike has breathtaking views! So stunning! I must have taken 50 photos. Then you can take a 2 euro bus ride back, super easy. Our room had a beautiful balcony view overlooking the ocean! We would have stayed hanging in our balcony all night if weren't hungry. A number of shops and restaurants nearby that are walkable. 2 Thumbs Up!

"Nice hotel with great location"
DundeeYummymummy, 22 Mai 2018

We stayed here for 1 night with a sea view room. It was a lovely room with great views but it was slightly noisy as it was on the main rain. The hotel was only minutes from Portofino and a return bus trip was only €5 bought at reception. Beware of the car park charges and also the government tax charges. We had lunch here which was ok but the cocktails were rubbish. The beach and beach bar were closed and so was the roof pool terrace so that was bit disappointing. It was a good hotel for the price. Lovely walks too.

"Great Hotel & Amazing Customer Experience"
jrseraz-sd, 17 Mai 2018

The BW Regina Elena is an excellent hotel that will make you wish you had stayed for more than just one or two nights. My room was spacious, clean, extremely comfortable and quiet - the perfect ingredients for a perfect night's rest while traveling in a beautiful setting like Santa Margherita. After dinner, visiting the rooftop deck will enhance your visit of this enchanting seaside resort even more as you watch the evening's transition. Breakfast was good - standard continental buffet that had a large fresh assortment of breakfast goodies. The hotel's parking was 20 euros/night. It was secure and parking spots were spacious and though a bit expensive, I didn't worry much about parking issues with the rental car. Consequently, every aspect of this hotel was terrific, but it was the five of the staff members that made my stay one of the best while traveling. Anita, Francesca, Stefano, Gianpaolo, Isabella - the " Fab Five” clearly exceeded all of my expectations for a hotel. These are amazing employees love what they do and have taken “ownership” of the hotel. Best of all, they all have a special gift for making customers feel they are glad they are staying at “their” hotel. They redefine the term “customer experience” and I say that having spent hundreds of nights in some of the finest hotels. I do hope that these employees will be recognized by their management for providing just the "best ever spectacular customer service" and being wonderful ambassadors that reflect BW Regina Elena and Best Western's high standards. jrseraz-sd

"Great views of the stunning Italian riviera and warm service from a charming team"
Airlineconsultant, 24 Avril 2018

My standard room had a truly superb view over the Santa Margherita Bay and back towards the Italian riviera, hills and Rapallo - all of which looked magnificent in the day and then sparkled at night. Other standard rooms also had balconies. The room was excellent - electric blind, tea/coffee, fridge, super bathroom (including premium shampoo, shower gel, etc), all immaculately clean and nicely presented. Only issue: the bed was a little of the firm-side of comfortable and there was no safe. The hotel building has had an exterior cladding of balconies added, plus a top floor, but on the inside it retains great charm, with an art deco theme, grand marble staircase, classy lounge, very large and spacious dining room with great views over the bay. There is a very small fitness room on the lower floor by the conference room. Excellent wi-fi throughout. Breakfast included cold cuts, cheese, eggs, cereal, a large selection of breads and cakes, apples and yoghurt. Great coffee with soy milk an option also. The front desk team were delightful - unfailingly helpful with information on the region. The hotel is located about 20 to 25 minutes walk from Santa Margherita centre/train station - although you can also take an 82 bus to/from the train station which takes about 5 minutes (3 euros if you buy on the bus; 1.80 from the front desk). Charming bars and restaurants in the town, plus a couple of supermarkets. Portofino is about a one hour walk along the dramatic peninsula coastline (and past one of Silvio Berlusconi's residences), with about two thirds of the walk on a footpath and the rest either on the road or over a hill. Buses also run frequently. I would very much like to stay at this superb hotel again.

"great sea front hotel"
irka657, 18 Avril 2018

We found that many senior groups stop here during their coach trips, the large groups were very noticeable. the room walls are thin enough to here people pottering around and washing in the mornings. The hotel staff were very helpful with all sorts, you can buy bus tickets from the counter also stamps for postcards. The parking offered is very secure but comes at the price of 20euro a day.

"A TRUE ITALIAN RESORT WITH FINE STAFF"
500Fraser, 02 Avril 2018

we have now coming to the Hotel Regina Elena for our 17th year, now our staying 25 days, under the direction of Piergiorgio Ciana, this hotel is on the edge of Santa Margherita on the way to Portofino, right by the sea, great beach, terrific parking, lovely staff, very clean rooms, wonderful breakfast, lunch on the beach, they have rooms in all price categories from large top floor to the smaller garden view rooms, we consider this our second home, you are part of real Italy, Tom and Tevie, Atlanta

"Amazing experience at Best Western Regina Elena Hotel in Santa Margherita di Ligure"
mayaobushtarova, 12 Mars 2018

I am really impressed in March this year! Keep the excellent work ahead! When we arrived we were offered a room with a sea view, as the hotel was not fully booked. We had a wonderful view and this lovely gesture from the receptionist will remain forever in my heart. Thank you very much. Every day the room was cleaned and when we turned from a long distance walk it was nice to see the room in a perfect condition. It is not very big room, but we enjoy the nice sounds coming from the see every night. It was the most romantic stay I had in my life...The breakfast was delicious. I enjoyed the Italian espresso, croissants, home made cakes and many others.I can only recommend this hotel further because it deserve the highest points...superb experience

"Great for Families, beach, centra location"
Mary D, 03 Mars 2018

Loved the Best Western Regina Elena ! Had great view of the ocean, walkable to downtown and restaurants, walkable to Portofino. Accessible to Cinque Terre by train and ferries. Loved Loved the Location. The staff was nice and helpful and parking availability was great as well! We just loved our stay here and would definitely stay again!

"Beautiful hotel and perfect location! "
Gabby B, 16 Février 2018

This is a beautiful hotel in a perfect location! It offers lots of amenities such as a gym, rooftop pool, private beach, restaurant and bicycle hire. The rooms are spacious, clean and well tempered. The staff are very welcoming and happy to help. It is situated in the middle of the coastal area - a 20 min walk to Portofino and a 20 min walk to the city centre. It is right on the water and offers spectacular views of the coast!

"What a grand view"

All our hotels were part of the package tour we were on, so we did not have to do the hard yard to find a great hotels, but they were all fantastic. So being on the Mediterranean sea we just had to dip our feet, which we did. So it has a restaurant, Wi-Fi and also it has a private beach and you get there by walking under the road to the beach. Fantastic. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff were great. If you only speak English you can survive, but I also spoke Italian as my heritage is Italian so it was a bit easier. Beautiful spot and it was our base to get to 5 Terre and Portofino

"Treated like royalty in the Italian Riviera"
katrinblackphoto2018, 09 Janvier 2018

The staff at the Hotel Regina Elena treated us like royalty during our stay in the Italian Riviera. Our large immaculate room had a private balcony overlooking both the ocean and the posh neighborhood in this very picturesque town. Wonderful rooftop hot tub and pool. Hotel has private beach and one of the best breakfast buffets in Italy.

"Grand Hotel. Old school. "
MissMel031, 03 Janvier 2018

Loved our stay here. 3 friends traveling together for a birthday trip. Old school style which i loved. Taken back in time in this sea side town. Staff are friendly and helpful with arranging taxis or anything questions you might have. Old ate breakfast here which was good. They spoilt my friend on her birthday with some sparking wine. Lovely gesture which we all enjoyed.

"A spectacular outlook, wonderful service, delightful stay .."
Helen S, 02 Janvier 2018

What a fabulous location - a beautifully appointed hotel, efficient courteous helpful staff, enjoyable breakfast each day .. a must-choose accommodation in Santa Margherita Ligure! Recommend this hotel - thanks to the wonderful staff and their extremely pleasant leader!

"Beautiful Area"
Febu3, 30 Novembre 2017

We luckily had a room on the corner of the property which offered beautiful views across the beach and mountains surrounding Santa Margherita. Reception staff friendly but not as friendly as previous reviews had suggested. Room was large and felt secure. The rooftop pool area was where we spent lots of time due to the view. This area was also much more private than the beach which is only a few steps away. Beach bar experience very good, happy bar staff. The bus across the road into Portofino is perfect and runs regularly. Would definitely return to explore more of the area.

"Location Is Everything!"
C6906SSlindav, 10 Novembre 2017

This hotel is located on the beautiful promenade leading to Portofino and a short train ride away from the port of La Spezia and a highlight of your stay, the Cinque Terre. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Italy's most beautiful landscapes. The hotel itself has a pleasant private beach, restaurant and bar and rooftop pool and beautiful views of the bay. The rooms are small and many have bay views.

"Great breakfast"
lliner, 04 Novembre 2017

We had a view room with a small balcony, big enough for only 2 people. The room itself was so small there wasn't room to put 2 suitcases on the floor. It was nice but very tight. Our friends had a room at the back of the hotel and theirs was more spacious. The bathroom was very nice with a large deep bathtub that we enjoyed. The hotel is at the end of town but that wasn't a problem, it took about 15 minutes to walk. There is a bus stop right out front if you don't want to walk. The beach is rocky and they lock the path to it early in the evening. The breakfast was very nice with a pear tart to die for.

"Lovely"
Mark W, 31 Octobre 2017

We stayed here 3 nights and it was a great base to see Portofino and the 5 villages. The hotel itself is lovely. My husband and I had a side view room with plenty of room and a quiet stay. Our friends stayed in front-facing room that they paid more for, but I thought our room was nicer! The breakfast was incredible. So many choices. It was easy to walk everywhere from the hotel. We felt this was one of our top choices of our 4 weeks. I am sorry to hear that the cruise ships are adding it to their itineraries. Go soon before it is over-run! Go to the Co-op grocery for good prices. All in all, just a great place!

"Another Wonderful Stay At The Hotel Regina Elena"
John B, 30 Octobre 2017

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Regina Elena in Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy this October. We have stayed at the hotel many times and have always had a tremendous experience. The service was outstanding, the breakfast was excellent and our room was wonderful and had a balcony with a beautiful view of the Ligure Sea. The hotel's location is ideal for exploring the city and the region. In 45 years of traveling in Europe, the Hotel Regina Elena is one of our favorite hotels.

"Loved this town and hotel"
Razar88, 28 Octobre 2017

Loved the town of Santa Margherita and this hotel is great as well. Rooms are large, bright airy as comfortable and we were lucky enough to have one facing the water. Beds and pillows were comfortable The breakfast provided is substantial and service is excellent. Would I say again, definitely.

"Nice hotel"
Lina G, 25 Octobre 2017

We managed to check in early and were upgraded to room with a sea view, I guess because it is low season Good room, bathroom was big, balcony with nice view Breakfast was good selection The hotel is located between St Margherita and Portofino. The bust to Portofino picks you up outside the hotel, but it was extremely crowded For a couple in our early 30s we found the town extremely boring and one night is more than enough

"Good Tourist Hotel"
Bouldermary56, 20 Octobre 2017

This hotel is mainly geared toward large tour groups. Seemed like most tourists were British or American. The rooms were small but spotless. Breakfast was abundant. Front desk was very helpful. Not a bad location for walking, but if you plan to use the train station it's a 25 minute walk.

"Ligurien like summer in October "
Jens M, 17 Octobre 2017

Traditional hotel with more than 100 years of memories from summer holidays at the Ligurien coast. You will find 100% serviceminded staff, historical atmosphere, great pool area, lovely beds, nice rooms, access to private beach, we used the bicycle free of charge. Easy access to the city. Expect everyone doing their best. Clean and nice hotel. Do not expect modern Interieur. All good.

"Picturesque setting"
paula67Adelaide, 15 Octobre 2017

We stayed one night at this hotel, overlooking the seafront. Our room was located at the top of the hotel overlooking the car park, but a miniscule balcony provided a side view of the sea. Although the room was probably an attic in the past, it was comfortable with adequate space. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was well supplied, although the headroom was limited. Dinner and breakfast were not up to the standard provided at other hotels, and I did not consider that the hotel's rating matched other hotels on our itinerary.

"Great value"
TheMilkMan2000, 14 Octobre 2017

The hotel is opposite the sea and a 5 minute walk from the centre of town or a lovely 40 minute walk to Portofino. The bus also stops outside but the bus is extremely crowded although it only takes 10 minutes. Our room was lovely with a nice balcony that looks onto the sea. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was a good size. My only complaint is that you can hear people moving in the room above. The breakfast spread was massive. Fry up and continental available. The town is extremely boring with very little to do. Everywhere is extremely expensive. I personally think this area is better served to a short day trip as part of a cruise or a wider Italian tour. Make sure you go to Portofino!

"Rude"
Anna D, 10 Octobre 2017

I'm not sure why my first review was deleted. I think it was a beyond accurate review of how we were treated while at this hotel. I will not go into detail again but as a tourist asking more than two questions was forbidden. Isabella was beyond rude and we had the worst experience because of her. We were not on vacation to receive attitude from the workers when we are paying to stay there. I will never return to this hotel ever again.

"Old world charm"
Nick B, 08 Octobre 2017

Basically this hotel is what I picture Italy being like in the 70s. That sounds like an insult, but it it actually a huge compliment. The hotel is decorated with classic furniture and still has keys for the rooms rather than cards. Beds were a little hard but decent. Staff was exceedingly gracious and the hotel is close to the city and has great water views.

"Charming staff"
peter a, 05 Octobre 2017

All the staff at reception were friendly and helpful, as were those in the dining room who were especially attentive to the gluten-free needs of my wife. The dinners were excellent, though the breakfast was limited and unchanging from day to day. Our rooms were very clean. However, the bedroom lacked any storage space, such as a chest of drawers, with the result that many of our clothes had to be left in our suitcases. While accepting that the hotel is marketed as ‘dog friendly', we feel strongly that this should not extend to dogs being allowed in the dining room.

"Very good"
Rogerio L, 02 Octobre 2017

The hotel is 0,5 miles from the city downtown, with parking lot, private beach and beach's bar. The room of reasonable size, clean with balcony most of it front of the sea. The breakfast is amazing, you will enjoy it. Personal friendly and polite. Recommended hotel.

"WORST front desk assistance by isabella"
Anna D, 26 Septembre 2017

We arrived at the hotel on the first day and was assisted by Isabella who started off nice but after the third question started giving us MAJOR attitude. It's our first time in Italy and we know NOTHING. I'm sorry if we had to ask a few extra questions to understand the rooms they had available or how to get around in the city. The day we were checking out we needed some help with car rentals, train information and a taxi. Again, we unfortunately needed help. We were running short with time so we needed to figure out the best option possible. After our second question her attitude began as she answered questions and thank god the male receptionist ended up helping us because we were going to lose our patience with her nasty attitude and unfriendly service. Which we did at the end because we decided to go with a taxi and told her we have 3 BIG Luggages. While we were waiting she was running her mouth talking about us. She thinks I don't know Italian. Sorry sweetie, my parents are fluent in Italian. She was slamming the phone every time she answered the phone. The taxi comes in a benz sedan and looked at our luggages like this is probably impossible. When we told her we had 3 big luggages she turns around and says you said 3 not 6! I'm sorry but my backpack is NOT considered a luggage LOL!! When we took off we found out that she called and said 3 medium sized luggages. She either needs to find a new job where she doesn't deal with tourists who are unfamiliar with the area or she needs to get rid of her attitude and be friendlier. We don't need to deal with this kind of service while on vacation. If you ever go to this hotel and Isabella is at the front desk, AVOID DEALING WITH HER.

"More beautiful than Portofino!"
Joanne G, 24 Septembre 2017

Fabulous location within easy walking distance of all local amenities, right on the sea front with its own private beach, Roof Solarium, Jacuzzi & pool. The room was basic but very comfortable, similar to a UK Premier Inn style. The hotel retains it's history in the public rooms downstairs, which is wonderful.

"They will treat you like a Queen."
Victoria H, 13 Septembre 2017

I travel on my own quite a lot and I have to say that the staff in the hotel is absolutely delightful. They are beyond kind and sweet. For what I have seen around the village, beach facilities here are top 10. II will improve the breakfast, however, when they put a cushion on your back and make you an awesome capuccino the breafast turns a wonderful experience. Watch out when booking since they have 2 type of rooms. One type are astonishing and the others haven´t been refurbished for long, it could be you don´t realise what you´re booking while doing it, but in any case, even if the rooms look old they are very, very clean. If I go back, they can count on me staying here again. Location is great as well, very safe for a young lady on her own. :)

"LOVELY SEAFRONT HOTEL WITH 5 STAR SERVICE! THANK YOU ALICE!"
ginsengNewYork, 13 Septembre 2017

Set on a brilliant and highly prized location on the Italian Riviera, this hotel boasts a pleasant rooftop pool and Jacuzzi with a fabulous panoramic view of the coast, a great private beach, and a garage much needed in the area. Would have given it 5 stars, if they prevented guests from playing music at the pool and at the beach (nowadays, earplugs should be really be mandatory) But apart from that, everything is delightful (comfortable rooms, great A/C, great Wifi), and the staff is highly professional, multi-lingual, and dedicated (except for Alessandro, the grouchy beach towel attendant, definitely ready for retirement. I'm afraid I stressed the poor man when I asked him to change my wet beach towel). However, the best thing about this hotel is that rooms vary and accommodate different budgets (from renovated spacious sea-view balcony rooms, or 2 bedrooms/2 baths suite, to more economical, slightly dated rooms in the annex, or smaller but adequate rooms in the main building with full-size, not queen size beds). It's probably best to call/email the hotel and let them know exactly what you want, as they are very customer oriented. As light sleepers, we do prefer hill side rooms, quieter than the ones giving onto the lively coastal road. Breakfast is plentiful, and fresh espressos or cappuccinos can be brought to you by the pleasant waiters. The private beach has games for children as well as a small kiddie pool, and a wider area with beds and umbrellas for hire, as usual in Italy; but one can also just lay down on the beach, and swim to the raft, offshore. The hotel is 10mn by foot from the center along a pleasant promenade (one can use the hotel bikes, free for a couple of hours). So, all in all, we recommend highly this hotel which needs just a few tweaks to reach Perfection (Jacuzzi not warm, radio clocks sometimes ringing after clients are gone, interconnecting rooms not soundproofed,). But these are tiny details in regards to the high quality of this place which has a wonderful Fellini style, with its mix of modern and old world rooms, and with its repeat guests of all ages, such as very thin and very tanned Italian beauties, elderly elegant couples, international joggers enjoying the red carpet to Portofino, young families and children being spoiled by the waiters (our son just loved this place), etc, etc. In Santa Margherita, do walk to the lovely Durazzo palace and park, perched above town (they even have beautiful concerts in the summer). And do visit the Cinque Terre (either by boat, or by foot in which case you should get there VERY EARLY as it now gets crowded with tour groups…)

"Great location "
PrincessCatherine77, 28 Août 2017

We recently stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. The location is great, opposite a bus stop that you can take the bus into town that runs quite regularly. The room itself was small with quite dated amenities. The hairdryer broke when I used it so we needed to try to fix it ourself. Probably the biggest advantage of this hotel is access to their private beach via an underground tunnel directly from the hotel. The daybeds were expensive however this is Italy in high season, something to be expected. The lunch at the restaurant at the beach was one of the nicest lunches we had. The breakfast was plentiful with many options - you could even boil your own eggs with their timer - perhaps an idea however is a sign to advise children not to use this facility as they cannot count and took the eggs that I had cooking!!

"Just ok"
nix0n2017, 26 Août 2017

Ask for a sea view room at the front on floors 1-4 as the 5th floor is disappointing. Breakfast is the same every day, there is no variety, freshly squeezed orange juice is available at a supplement. The front desk staff are very helpful and obliging. We found beach beds expensive at €32 euro per day and our lunch at the beach club was the most disappointing meal of our week in the whole resort.

"Great Hotel"
Neel E, 24 Août 2017

Hotel Regina Elena, is a an absolut pearl. The staff is beyond sweet and agreeable. This was my second time staying at the venue, during the high season. As a guest, the staff was always helpful to me. The environment and room, is kept tidy and clean. Breakfast buffet has a wide selection and can be enjoyed in or outside. One can walk to the center and back. The bus or ferry to Portofino is only 6/700 m walk. A suggestion would be to leave pool towels in the room, since they are no longer displayed by the pool.

"Gorgeous views and very family friendly"
NYC_8389, 23 Août 2017

We stayed at the Best Western Regina Elena with our 8 month old baby. We couldn't be happier with everything the hotel provided and the excellent service we received. We had a room with a view of the water which was absolutely breathtaking. Our room also had a balcony which included a table and two reclining chairs. The rooftop pool was immaculate and included a good amount of lounge chairs for guests. In addition, the beach across the street from the pool was very family friendly and had a kiddie pool and games for children to play. The breakfast in the morning offered a variety of options and the staff was always so helpful in providing our baby a high chair, cup, and even utensils. The only thing that was a little difficult for us were the hotel's elevators. They were on the small side to squeeze a stroller in, but I thought they added character to the hotel and really didn't mind! The location of the hotel is a bit of a walk from restaurants and stores but who doesn't want to take a leisurely stroll along the water? I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling with a baby or children.

"Not worth it"
Jessica D, 23 Août 2017

Yes it's one of the cheaper places here but I would probably have stayed in a different area instead rather than stay at a run-down, overpriced, hotel. We checked in at 5pm and we're told we could use the pool and beach - they neglected to tell us the beach closed at 730 and tbe pool at 8, so by the time we settled in and grabbed food they were both closed. What a waste of a night! Went diving nearby and then finally used the beach, except the beds were 15 euro EACH to use so we just sat on the ground (after being told to move over by the lifeguard!). Now, I don't know if it's an Italy thing or specific to this hotel but I thought the closure times and the price to rent a bed were ridiculous. The room and hotel were outdated, the elevators were tiny and slow, and the balcony had a modest view. There is no shade on the rooftop pool area. As for breakfast - it has nothing that suited our diets - it was all pastries and the juice and coffee came in machines. I think they could have done way better with the food - it was not what I'd expect in such an expensive hotel. Really was not a fan of this place at all, one of the worst Best Westerns I've ever stayed at. I have no idea how this hotel got rated 4 stars!

"Excellent hotel selected by tour - would return ourselves"
tinkerbelle2016, 17 Août 2017

Our tour company (Grand Circle Cruise Line) chose Hotel Regina Elena to be our base for four nights to tour the Italian Riviera - Santa Margherita Ligure, Portofino, Cinque Terre and Genoa. The hotel met all of our needs. The location was excellent. First it was good for day trips. Second we were 10-15 minutes walking distance to the downtown area. We were across the street from the beach. The room was clean; good size, the bed comfortable; the air-conditioning strong; and the shower had good water pressure and comfortable temperature settings. We did not have a waterfront view but that did not matter - we had a side view. The breakfast offered a large selection of cereals, fruit, eggs, and pastries. We particularly liked the "water bath" where you could cook your eggs they way you liked. A number of members of our group who ate dinner in the hotel said the food was good. The staff was helpful. There was a rooftop pool, a small exercise room and a beach across the street. We sat comfortably in chairs at the beach but did not swim. While this hotel was selected by the tour company, we would return if traveling on our own. The walls are decorated with copies of paintings, sketches and old photographs.

"Excellent Hotel & Location"
Eddie M, 17 Août 2017

Excellent room and location small pool on the roof ideal for cooling down after a day walking. Restaurant evening dinner was of an extremely high standard. Breakfast was equally as good. Had lunch in beach restaurant which was excellent.

"It's a Room lottery !!!"
User, 14 Août 2017

I read the reviews before staying here and they were somewhat mixed. So took the plunge and went ahead and booked. BIG MISTAKE. ROOM NOISE We had room 426 which is right outside of the lift, which is why we immediately asked to be moved. However being August they were fully booked and we had to stay put. Little did we know the worst was yet to come. Aside from the room being extremely small as well as the bathroom, but the balcony (we had sea view) being a decent size. The worst part was the paper thin interconnecting doors. There was a family next door who came back late and kept us awake until 2am. Not because they where loud. But because of the poorly insulated interconnecting door and the gap underneath where the sound comes straight into your room. We could hear every word the family spoke, every shower and a every flush. I took a recording and went down to reception. There was nothing they could do because they were full but they left a note for the manager. It was clear i was not the first person to complain. The noise died down at 2am and we finally got to sleep. But the next morning we were woken by the noise from people going into the lift and what seem to be hovering above us (8am). I went down in the morning and the receptionist called the manager about our complaint. Without apology they offered to move us to another room which would become available later. When we came back later they had moved us as promised and we hesitantly went to our new room. Let's just say if you get room 430 you have hit the jackpot. Great spacious room, away from the lift, no interconnecting door and a great size bedroom, bathroom and balcony. At check out I saw the manager and explained my disappointment. He was extremely apologetic and provided token compensation. However I explained to him the noise issue is not acceptable and easy to fix. I hope they fix it soon. POOL One of the reasons I booked this hotel was for the pool. However waist of time as it's extremely small, extremely cold and all the (maybe 20) seats are taken. However if your happy to pay 18 euro per person to use their beach it's not too bad, although getting into the sea water is via a pier with steps. Also sun beds extremely close to one another. BREAKFAST Average at best but have nice space outside if you can get a seat and they do a super apple cake. Hope this helps everyone including the hotel, as it could be easily improved with little investment.

"Poor 4 star hotel - an honest British review"
Katj373, 14 Août 2017

We stayed for 2 x nights at a cost of €500. Quite honestly we expected a lot more for our money! We have been touring Europe for 3 weeks, staying in 4&5 star hotels. This is the worst we have experienced so far. I'll give you the positives and negatives... Positives; Good location Close to sea (concrete beach) Parking available with the hotel Good air conditioning Reasonably sized room Free bike rental for 2 hours Clean room Negatives 1980's style hotel - think of a run down hotel in Blackpool Disturbing decor - e.g - artist illustration of a gunfire massacre Rude staff, I had the phone put down on me because the receptionist couldn't understand English and got frustrated. Breakfast - the scrambled eggs were made with powered eggs and the Orange juice was just strong cordial. Our €15 Euro salad at the beach bar consisted of left over cheese and bacon from breakfast, one type of salad leaf and some mayonnaise from a bottle. Resembled an old people's home. Glass fronted building with elderly people sitting in the window. Terrible small and rickety lifts Expensive car park ( not under cover) The place is in serious need of a revamp. We stayed here last minute and certainly learnt our lesson! My advice would be not to stay here. Plenty of other hotels that are much better at a similar cost. Santa Margarita is a little bit like an upmarket Skegness. Portofino is a bit pretentious. However the restaurants we ate at in Santa Margarita were lovely (not the hotel one!!!!). Visit Tuscany instead!

"Good Hotel"
Katie F, 11 Août 2017

Great hotel in a really good location, we stayed 4 nights here and it had everything we needed Good breakfast, private beach and rooftop with pool and spa. Was only a 10 minute walk to the main part of Santa Margherita and walking distance to Portofino (if your up to it)

"Lovely position"
AndreaF_11, 05 Août 2017

I have been at this hotel many times. I love Santa Margherita LIgure and it is not a cheap place but it is so beautiful. Regina Elena has an exceptional location: this time we booked a sea view double room and though it was expensive, to sit at the balcony and contemplate the bay from there has no price. Staff is helpful: we had a trouble with Avis and the woman in charge argue with the man as if it was her own problem. Well done¡¡¡ Rooms are not luxurious but you have everything you need and the bathroom has been recently renovated. Breakfast room has been renovated and it is very pleasant: many choices and food is even better than the year before. This hotel has its private beach which is not cheap but it is safe and you can swimming the transparent water of Ligurian Sea. Perhaps Bar there needs a refurbishment but food is tasty. Prices at the Hotel bar are reasonable. We paid for a Cognac just half the price we have paid a week in advance at Vienna. Expecting to come back and though it is not a cheap option it is an enchanting place. Wish I were there again.

"Room 232"
856traveller, 04 Août 2017

Please avoid this room. You can hear the running water from every toilet being flushed day and night as though it was from your own toilet. Also we booked a standard Sea view room but in fact we had very minimal view of water and more a tree view. They should have advertised this room as a very partial sea view. I agree staff was friendly Francesca was very good, however, when confronted About the flushing water the staff said they were unaware, which I find hard to Believe as all the plumbing is in a room right next door and when asked about the sea view they said a standard room means no full sea view. Location was great SML is a beautiful location.

"Lovely Hotel and position"
Lovetoroam-53, 30 Juillet 2017

This is a real gem of a hotel - handy to everywhere and a great place to stay. Staff very helpful and the rooms are very nice and well catered for - including tea and coffee which doesn't happen to often in Europe. Stayed as part of a Tour Group in a 'Single room' which was lovely and plenty of room. Tour group dined there the first night and the food was excellent, as was the Breakfasts. Some of us dined there again the following night after an exhausting day of touring Cinque Terre. Thoroughly recommend this hotel

"Portofino Low cost, High Services!"
Linoadv, 28 Juillet 2017

If you are going to visit Portofino, Italy and need a good Hotel, the best option is BEST WESTERN REGINA. It's located around 5km of Portofino center, but the price it's almost you would pay on Portofino. The staff is very dedicated and the location has one of the most beautiful view of bay.

"Sea View"
Tamara S, 26 Juillet 2017

We were a little skeptical about hotel Regina Elena because it was a Best Western (here in the US, Best Western is not a hotel where I would stay). But after reading the reviews on TripAdvisor & knowing Portofino was in walking distance (approx 1.5 miles), we decided to book. And what a superb choice we made. Its in a perfect location; walking distance to the marina, town center as well as the train station. A surplus amount of restaurants and bars in the area. Although Portofino was approximately 1.5 miles from the hotel we decided to take the bus... the stop was directly in front of the hotel. The hotel room was average but the sea view balcony made up for it. At check in we were offered breakfast at a discounted rate which we took advantage of. It was your normal Italian breakfast. My favorite was the garden terrace, where we ate breakfast and afterwards walked the path to the private beach. The beach restaurant & bar was average looking but the sangaria made up for it (lol). The rooftop pool was gorgeous with an amazing view of SML. The Hotel Regina Elena's staff ( I mean every single 1 of them) was ridiculously awesome. Especially Francesca who went above & beyond to make sure we were in a room we liked (she allowed us to see 2 rooms to decide which best suited us & our travel needs) and always appeared happy & eager to help no matter what our needs were! The others were also knowledgeable & gave their assistance with a never ending smile. Had a great stay at Hotel Regina Elena

"Excellent stay"
Danielecheri, 26 Juillet 2017

We had a very good experience in this Best Western chain hotel, the breakfast was good, private beach right in front, kind and helpful staff, swimming pool on the roof overlooking the surrounding bay was a plus. The hotel is very good located, right in front of the sea.

"Great Hotel in Excellent Location"
KapoAdelaide, 21 Juillet 2017

We stayed at this hotel for two nights as part of an Insight Tour. The hotel is situated right on the beachfront at the end of the promenade adjacent to the marina and is within easy walking distance to shops, bars and restaurants. Our hotel room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant overlooks the ocean.

"All-around great facility!"
Mark S, 21 Juillet 2017

We chose this hotel due to its location right across the street from the beach. We ended up with much more bonus than that. Turns out the beach is private to guests of the hotel. Perfect! There is a very reasonably priced breakfast buffet each morning. I highly recommend it. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. There is a rooftop pool and hot tub that is worth going to see for the view alone, even if you have no interest in bathing. Overall, I would give the facility a 4 star rating.

"Pros & Cons"
jetsetter019, 15 Juillet 2017

The Best Western Regina Elena Hotel, is situated in a good position at the far end of the promenade on the road to Portofino. It has excellent decor, the lounges are cool and comfortable furnished to an excellent standard, however the bar service can be slow at times, the waiter is summoned by a bell on the bar counter and does not always respond immediately. The restaurant is situated in a very large round conservatory making it a pleasant place, it is comfortably furnished. Breakfast is adequate, but items on offer at the Buffet are the same every day, there is no extra menu offering alternative breakfast items i.e. fried or poached eggs, sausage, mushrooms, hash browns, fish etc. The evening menu again is always the same and has limited choices, but the food is good. The Hotel staff are superb, (and I mean all the staff). The Ladies & Gentlemen on Reception are brilliant, they are happy to help no matter what the guest needs to know, always with a broad smile and cheerie manner. Our bedroom was well appointed, cool and very comfortable with a small balcony and side sea view. The Chambermaids were very efficient and friendly. The private beach and Cafe across the road from the Hotel, reached by a tunnel under the road, are delightful, providing shelter, food, good beer and wine when the noonday sun is at it hottest!! The views from the roof top splash pool are amazing, there is also a jacuzzi. Sunbeds are provided and each have their own sun shade above, so there are no umbrellas. Sadly, the building itself needs a major face lift, externally it is looking tired and shabby and would look more appealing, with a coat of light coloured external paint, with brighter colours used for balcony rails etc. The planter boxes on balconies need replanting with brightly coloured trainling blooms. That aside, we recommend this Hotel to visitors to the lovely resort of Santa Margherita which is about a 15 minute walk away, but with plenty of seats along to way. The beautiful port of Portofino is a about a 45 minute walk in the opposite direction, with bars n cafes scattered along the way, but as the local bus stops just outside the Hotel there is no problem reaching either.

"A great hotel in a lovely area"
Arkle66, 12 Juillet 2017

Loved everything about this hotel, the room facilities were excellent - we had a 5th floor sea view room - the view from the balcony was beautiful. Their automated parking system with 6 floors of underground parking was an entertainment in itself albeit pricey at 18 euro/day but parking in this area is almost impossible. The only negative for me was the hotel location at the south end of the town. It was a long walk to the centre where you may need the railway station or the ferry port or the bus ticket office. There are buses along the front roughly every 20 mins or you can walk for 20 mins or so. If all you want is a beach and hotel facilities this is not an issue but we like to explore... If you have a car and drive then you have to find somewhere to park - rarely easy. But I can not fault the hotel.

"Great view"
Lee-Ann S, 12 Juillet 2017

One can forgive many flaws at this hotel because of its great location and postcard views. The hotel has its own private beach, as well as roof top pool and jaccuzi. Our room's furnishings seemed a bit dated, the breakfast buffet did not offer much variety, the aircon was so-so, the shower tiny and the wifi very iffy. BUT: the location is excellent, the staff are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed sundowners on our room's balcony overlooking the sea. We travelled with a rental car, and you can park in the hotel's underground car park for about Euro15 per night (not bad in Italy). Once there, use the hotel as your base and walk or take the bus to the town centre, Rapallo or Porto Fino. We recommend you do the historic walking tours, which is free for hotel guests. You can buy bottled water and snacks for relatively cheap at the nearby Carrefour supermarket. I attended a conference in the hotel, and the aircon in those venues felt non-existent in the 30+ Celcius heat.

"Surprising Good Hotel"
John C, 03 Juillet 2017

This Best Western Hotel was a very pleasant surprise. The location was right off the water with great views. The rooms were very nice and modern as well. The dining room was glass on two sides with very nice views. The whole experience was very good.

"Great hotel and excellent position"
Sue H, 23 Juin 2017

We spent a marvellous week at this hotel. We had a 4th floor room facing the sea. The most wonderful panoramic view. The room and bathroom had recently been refurbished to a very good standard. The hotel has a wonderful roof top sunbathing area with a small pool and jaccuzi. The breakfast room was a lovely size and never crowded. You could also eat outside under the canopy shading you from the sun. The breakfast offered was ok although I have had more choice in other hotels. We had dinner in the hotel twice. Really excellent food and service. Necessary to book as the restaurant isn't very large. We found all the staff at the hotel excellent, particularly the reception staff and they went out of their way to help and advise you. There is a busy road running in front of the hotel. Ok if you keep your balcony door shut (the rooms are air conditioned) but the constant noise of the motor scooters day and night can be annoying. The bus stop is right outside the hotel so very convenient for going into Santa Margherita and Portofino. If you walk into town it takes between 10 and 15 minutes. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in Santa Margherita. Service is slow in most of them. There are so many places to visit nearby, either by boat, train or bus. For me, 7 days wasn't long enough. Can't wait to return to this beautiful area and excellent hotel.

"GREAT LOCATION IN SANTA MARGHERITA"
RoshanGV, 23 Juin 2017

Stayed at the Regina Elena in Santa Margherita as a part of an Insight Vacations Tour. An old-ish hotel but with a fantastic location. I had a single room overlooking the rear so there was no view....it overlooked some other buildings, perhaps a private home? However, it was quiet and we did not have much time to gaze at the view! The room itself was far too small even for one person, almost like a cabin on a ship! However it was well equipped. Bathroom was clean and well stocked. Bath tub was also tiny to match the size of the room but perfectly ok for 2 nights. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful as were the Restaurant Staff. Food and Service at dinner were both very good. Breakfast was good with some unusual local specialties.

"Great seaside location"
lhall85917, 06 Juin 2017

We stayed here two nights as part of our Insight tour. The location is wonderful, and a short walk takes you into town with many dining options. Our room was clean and faced the water, the balcony was a perfect place to sit and enjoy the view. The rooftop pool was warm and clean. Many of us enjoyed relaxing around the pool. Breakfasts were very good, and the one dinner we ate at the hotel was also excellent.

"Excellent service and stylish atmosphere "
Dorte A, 04 Juin 2017

From the outside this hotel looks nice, but inside you can feel the atmosphere of good old days. Reception, bar and stairs ooze class and style with various lovely pieces of art, giving the hotel a distinct character. Rooms are nice with good bathrooms. We were lucky to get a corner room with a large balcony overlooking the sea. Breakfast is all right (for Italy) and the top floor pool is lovely, as is the private beach. The automatic underground parking facility is an engineering masterpiece - go have a look even if you don't come by car. The fifth star is for the service, which was simply amazing. Everyone of the staff were very smiling and friendly. I can fully recommend Regina Elena for a short or long stay.

"Split personnality"
Donna1001, 03 Juin 2017

The lobby is old and has great antiques, museium type and the rooms are Ikea? Totally different. The furniture in the rooms are light, stiff and dormish. It is confusing. The staff is very distracted, even though they are not busy. Two different staff members attempted to work our safe with no luck. The bar is barely maintained, ask at front desk. The food is good when u get it. We agree it is the best option in the area, but that doesn't make it good. The first room we were given was in the back, we had to walk sideways around the bed and there was a smell of previous pet. We were given a better room when we asked. It was slightly larger and with a side view of the beach/busy road. We walked to town and had to cross a very scary, busy, road because there is limited sidewalks on the hotel side. I think they are under new family management so maybe updates are coming.

"Very relaxing "
Bea0811, 31 Mai 2017

This hotel was chosen by an insight vacation tour group. Rooms were small but updated. Air conditioning worked well. The town is very scenic. Dinner at hotel restaurant was excellent. We had a partial water view Customer service was excellent. Somewhat small elevators.

"Fabulous hotel"
Chris S, 27 Mai 2017

We spent 5 nights at this hotel visiting from Australia, which we thoroughly enjoyed in every way. Staff were exceptional although our Italian is poor they helped us in every way, especially Alice & Franchesca Location of this hotel is perfect. Thoroughly enjoyed walking to Portifino plus all day ferry trip to Cinque Terre

"Decent hotel for a single night"
Ken Y, 22 Mai 2017

Our room was very modern looking with a safe located inside the closet. The air conditioning system was not enabled but opening the patio doors cooled the room down adequately. The room is comfortable, has a water kettle but no facecloths. The patio door opens to a small patio. We are in room 232. Slippers were provided in the room. Roomy closet as well as coat hooks are installed in the hallway. Shower has half glass wall. Soap dispensers are in the shower but real bar soap is provided as well. Our tour group had dinner in dining room and the food was OK. Wine was served in pitchers instead of from bottles.

"Great hotel"
lge50, 19 Mai 2017

You are right on the bay. Can walk to Portofino, take a bus or ferry. All the hotel room have great views. Service is prompt and friendly. They provide a daily summary on news from US , England etc. Tv has CNN, BBC. Prices are reasonable. Rest good good

"great experience!"
Sue C, 18 Mai 2017

This hotel has been a true respite with great location! The staff is friendly and efficient, the amenities more than adequate, and the scenic location is a dream. After a busy walking day in this delightful town, it is a real pleasure to come back to sit on the patio overlooking the gorgeous sea with it's boats, the mountains with cliff homes across the bay, a d enjoy a delicious glass of the local white wine served by the nicest bartender ever! Good value, real pleasure.

"Ocean View"
simonsilva2013, 16 Mai 2017

We were on a tour with Insight and when I read the hotels, I was a bit disappointed seeing Best Western on our list. BUT this was a fantastic hotel, we had a view of the ocean which was right across the street from the hotel. Our room was clean and in good condition.

"A super pleasant, well maintained hotel, great service!"
dududinour, 05 Mai 2017

Hotel located on the beach front of Santa Margarita Ligure, just a few miles before the legendary Portofino. Prices fairly. It's a 4 star in European standard, but a good 3 in US standards. Rooms a bit small, but well equipped and comfortable. Breakfast is nice. Service excellent. A surprising hi tech underground parking, worth seeing. Never saw it even in USA.

"Excellent location"
I O, 04 Mai 2017

Would definately recommend this hotel. On the main rd of city centre. The Staff are very friendly and helpful and rooms are neat and clean. Views from balcony are breathtaking. A must stay on an average budget.

"Nice room with great sea view "
tomdark2015, 02 Mai 2017

We spent one night here for our wedding anniversary, very good choice indeed. We had a nice and comfortable room on the third floor with a good sea view (see picture), even if without a balcony (our choice with an eye on the budget, as the room prices are not cheap in general...). Breakfast value for money is great, only 5 euro for a good choice and acceptable quality of food. Much better than many other breakfasts I have tried elsewhere for prices normally around 15 euro. The parking fee is not low (18 euro for our 1 night stay) but this is due to the very limited parkings available in Santa Margherita. Bathroom toiletries are available but the offering should be improved (eg. body lotion, shower cap, etc).

"Lovely hotel, spectacular views, easy to get to, great service"
Suzan W, 01 Mai 2017

Hotel Regina Elena is at one end of Santa Margherita Ligure's beachfront, on the road to Portofino. It took us about 15 minutes to walk the beachfront footpath to get the centre of town, which wasn't a problem for us because there's plenty of shops, beaches and sights all along the beachfront. If you arrive in Santa Margherita by train and have lots of luggage, recommend you catch a taxi to the hotel which is about 5 minutes by car from the station. The hotel is lovely with nice rooms and general areas (lobby, bar, dining room) and very well maintained. We enjoyed a gorgeous water view from our room and verandah at the front of the hotel. We had a refurbished room and it was exactly as pictured at the time of booking and whilst not overly large, it had excellent storage (large built in cupboards either side of the main bed and a entrance portico with coat hooks and suitcase holder) which easily held our masses of suitcases and backpacks and kept the room tidy. The room was very comfortable and the decor sophisticated and appealing. We travelled with a 7 year old and were pleased that the room had effective automatically-operated external blinds to shut out any external noise and light and enable a good night's sleep. Not that it was noisy outside, but the blinds also kept the early-morning sunrise out of sight which gave us a sleep-in! The bathroom was top-notch, classic yet modern with a touch of luxury and all in excellent working order. The hotel has a pool, which we couldn't access or even see as it was closed (out of season) and has a private beach - there's a tunnel under the road from the hotel to the beach. In summer this would be handy, but in April, it was more of a construction site with a digger on the beach most days preparing for the season opening. I fancied the idea of a private beach and this sold me when booking the hotel, but in reality, there's no sand, just grey pebbles and asphalt and lots of concrete reinforcement (a bit like a sea-wall). On the upside, the hotel had a good supply of bicycles and we enjoyed exploring all around town on them. They were free of charge due to being "out of season", otherwise I believe they are available for hire. Beaches on the Italian Riviera are mostly pebble-beaches or rock - nothing like the golden sandy beaches in Australia (or the USA) so wear some thongs or shoes to soften the blow! The water is spectacularly clear and blue and inviting. One last note about the hotel - thank you to the very pleasant and professional staff at the front desk and the team of waiters in the dining room who made our stay most enjoyable and for whom nothing was too much trouble. Overall we enjoyed our staff very much and recommend the hotel.

"Can't Fault It!"
John W, 29 Avril 2017

Booked a 5 day stay at this hotel very last minute. Having not been to the area before or even put much research into it I feel we were really lucky. The hotel itself although modern where it needs to be still has the character and history of business running over 100 years. I booked just a side room with no balcony but at check in we were upgraded to a sea view with balcony. It was perfect. Immaculately cleaned every day and a very reasonably priced minibar. I've rarely stayed at a hotel with such attentive staff. From housekeeping to reception staff nothing was to much for any enquiry. Francesca on the front desk was helpful and friendly from the minute we walked in. Another member of staff bar/waiter Denis spoke to us over lunch and saved our rainy day with suggestions what to do. A massive thank you to the staff who keep this hotel a super tight ship. I will definitely be back in the summer!!

"Very disappointed about room"
blossom28, 15 Avril 2017

On arrival staff are friendly with a fast check-in process and helpfull with directions. But once I got in the room I was very disappointed. I booked a hillside room for which I didn't care so much. The decision making was the modern styled room design they offer and the single room I got (324) is far from what you see on their official BW website. The room design brings you back to the old school time, all wooden and out-to-date style. Totally different from what you see on their published room pictures. I received the excuse that the room pictures showed on their website are double bedrooms and rooms at higher rate. I find this tremendously ridiculous, this is misleading marketing. Especially when you pay as single traveller much more pro rato. Although the bed in the room is larger than a regular single bed but this does not justify for which you are not expecting to get. If I knew, my choice will definitely not Best Western Regina Elena. I booked directly with BW to avoid these kind of situations. Next to that, I didn't get best guaranteed price as agency was lower in price despite of showing the evidence to BW. Next visit will be definitely another hotel. Anyway, in terms of space it's reasonable, the room is small and accommodates one person sufficiently. The room is clean, bed mattress is firm but shower stream is terrible soft. In addition, you hear all the noises from the corridor and next door. Location wise, it's situated at the end of St Margherita L. harbour but the stroll is very nice and being out of the buzzed boulevard. From the station you can hop on the public bus (no 882 or 82) for EUR 3,- one way which is valid for 75min. The bus goes directly to Portofino and stops in front of the hotel.

"Ideal for hiking vacation"
Ursula T, 07 Avril 2017

This is the ideal place for hiking vacation at the Natural Park of Portofino. The stuff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is not included. But for an additional charge of 5 Euro a delicious breakfast is available. Ask for a room on the backside of the hotel to minimize the disturbance by the busy road on the front side of the hotel.

"Fine enough"
Skye21, 06 Mars 2017

The room was small but nice. It was clean and had a nice, large balcony and good view. The location without a car is a bit challenging, though the bus is nearby. Some of the staff was very nice. I was disappointed that the jacuzzi was closed and rudely told that of course it would be closed, as it's only open when it's warmer outside(?) Breakfast was fine. I wouldn't return, but it wasn't horrible.

"good hotel for the time of the carnavales"
yehudab2015, 04 Mars 2017

nice hotel for groups visiting the carnivals on February.problems with parking. nice breakfast . the room is small size but comfortable. for dinner you have to drive few minutes.wi fi is free in the hotel.

"A very pleasant hotel overlooking the sea with its own private beach"
Simon T, 21 Décembre 2016

The Hotel Regina Elena is a very pleasant place to spend a few days in Ligure. It overlooks the beach a short walk from the centre of town. The rooms are comfortable and clean and obviously the ones overlooking the sea and preferable. The restaurant looks attractive although we had dinner in the town. We did have breakfast in the hotel which was good. The staff were all friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our stay.

"Very nice location!"
OlavStavanger, 20 Décembre 2016

Location of this hotel is very good. The hotel has a great atmosphere and we particularly enjoyed the roof terrace and the bar area. Very helpful staff and the lady in the reception helped us get bus ticket to Portofino which is only a 5-10 minute drive away. It is a lovely walk to the town square of Santa Margherita. Many good restaurants nearby.

"Great friendly service, excellent room with sea view."
darkwytche, 09 Novembre 2016

We stayed at this hotel during November. Situated perfectly near the sea with an interior decor invoking times gone past, a beautiful elegance that so many modern hôtels miss. The welcome by the front office staff was friendly, warm and Professional, everything sorted quickly and efficiently. Our room was nice and spacious with a private balconey giving us a sea view. We used the breakfast room, restaurant and bar during our stay, all the staff were well trained, courteous and friendly, the food both at breakfast and evening was throughly enjoyable and the Maitre D'Hotel in the evening was able to give good advice as to dishes and wine in English and in French. I would reccommend this hotel without hesitation and look forward to visiting again in the future.

"Stylish"
Sylvia1941, 01 Novembre 2016

Spent 3 nights in this wonderful hotel with two of my friend. The hotel is beautifully decorated and the bedroom did not disappoint. Set in the lovely port of portofino the views from the hotel are simply stunning especially at night. The rooftop jacuzzi is a gem staff were both friendly and attentive. I would love to go back. It deserves it's 4 stars

"Great Rooms - Even if you Don't Face the Water!"
Brenda K, 25 Octobre 2016

This hotel is within walking distance of downtown and if you're lucky, you'll be sure and visit Portofino, which is even more beautiful than Santa Margherita Ligure (hard to believe!). There are many, many fabulous restaurants within walking distance - not to mention the great food we enjoyed at the hotel!

"Oh, well"
Betty P, 20 Octobre 2016

Please, avoid eating at their restaurant. I don't believe there's a real chef in the kitchen. Any chef. I can't believe I ate like this in Italy. Tour people food, plastic, tasteless. Very disappointing all about this hotel. Emergency only.

"This Hotel is in a great location"
Barbara N, 15 Octobre 2016

Very easy to take an hour bus tour to Portafino from this Hotel. Hotel was beautifully set out and rooms very comfortable. Felt the breakfast was a little ordinary for Australian travellers. Suited Americans more. A 15 minute walk takes you to the town with beautiful shops and buildings. Shops a little pricy. This Hotel has a private beach front.

"One of the nicest rooms I've ever stayed in"
Djuna W, 12 Octobre 2016

We spent five wonderful nights at Hotel Regina Elena. It was our home base as we visited Cinque Terre and Portofino. We lucked out and got room 430. If at all possible try to get this room. In my opinion it's the best room in the hotel....possibly in the whole city. We had a long balcony that wrapped around two sides of the building. Our view was unobstructed. We also had two windows and a cool porthole in the shower. From practically every place in the room including the shower we had breathtaking views. We loved our room so much we had to drag ourselves away every day to explore our surroundings. The staff is helpful and attentive. The font desk made dinner reservations for us, helped us find our way around town and printed out our train tickets. We also took advantage of their laundry service. Generally I don't pay much attention to housekeeping unless there is a problem, but the housekeeping staff at this hotel is exceptional. They would notice when we left our room for breakfast and clean our room while we were gone. Every morning after we finished breakfast, we returned to a beautiful, clean room. It set the tone for a nice day. This is a great hotel for kids. Not only is there a convenient private beach connected to the hotel where the kids can play, but there is a Pokestop and Gym nearby. If your kids are playing Pokemon Go, they will love it.

"relaxing in Liguria"
DerekJ52, 07 Octobre 2016

We were a party of four but I had arranged the holiday so the onus was fairly and squarely on me to keep everyone happy on our first trip to Santa Margharita Ligure. We had a zombie type early morning flight but even though we arrived at the Regina Elena hotel much earlier than expected, we were met with a friendly welcome and given the keys to our rooms where we immediately decamped for a much needed siesta. The hotel is quite old and has retained much of its charm despite obvious extensions and refurbishment, including the ubiquitous spa and conference centre which, thankfully, is mainly out of sight. The public rooms on the ground floor look like the Titanic's state rooms and are a very inviting spot to read or relax in. The rooms we had were quite spacious and the sea views were terrific especially in the evening light. The bathrooms were up to date and the shower was twice the size of the one we had at home. We had the run of quite a large balcony but had to endure some loud traffic noise although this did ease up later in the day and to be fair we were on the first floor. A lot of traffic goes past the hotel in the morning and returns at rush hour as it were, but the nights are noise free. The roof top pool area boasts great views but could do with some more shade as in parasols or awnings. The rooms were kept clean at all times and the staff on our floor did a great job and even arranged our bits and pieces to maximise room space. The staff in reception were personable and courteous, even smiling away when I practised my not so good Italian on them. They can recommend places to eat, sell you boat tickets and give you info on the best trails to explore. I can single out Francesca and Gian Paolo as being particularly helpful as all their colleagues were. I can't say the same for their colleague who looks after the beach sun loungers as he was a bit rude to my wife on our first trip to his fiefdom. Well, those people aren't usually employed for their front of house personalities. We never tested the dining room as we preferred to sample the local eateries which were superb. It is essential to book in advance for the more popular restaurants and try out some of the quieter ones located in the old town itself but off the main promenade. The buffet breakfast was fine and there is no limit on how many helpings of muesli or egg or yoghurt you want so go for it! We usually use a hotel as a base to explore the surrounding area and sights and found that the Regina Elena scored very highly in this respect. You could walk from the hotel, partly through forest, to Portofino and further on along a parkland trail to San Fruttuosa a 12th century monastery. You can jump on a different boat there and sail on to Camogli which is a really charming old mediaeval town with a more picturesque harbour than any in the Cinque Terre in my view. The railway station in Santa Margharita is about a 20 minute walk away from the hotel and can whisk you away northwards to Genoa and its old centro storico while southbound journeys take you through some very pleasant towns such as Rapolla and Monterossa down to the renowned Cinque Terre. Both trips only take about 30/40 minutes. The walk on the cliff trail high up between Varnazza and Monterossa is memorable and yes it can get crowded but this only underlines how popular it is. A good base from which to explore the town and nearby villages or to go further by train or car to Genoa or La Spezia. A very comfortable hotel where the reception staff make you feel as if your party were the only guests in the building and leave you with a notion of coming back.

"Great sea views from the top floors"
Odile C, 20 Septembre 2016

I had inadvertantly booked into the dependance next door- with car park at the back and viewless courtyard at the front- so the Manager proposed to upgrade up to the main building for a small and simple room on top floor- with great views from the small balcony- screened from others with mature bushes- which we really enjoyed. The room was simple and small, but bed comfortable - but the view was the main feature. Small sunbathing room terrasse with small pool and great views to mature villas Nortth side and sea to the South. Staff friendly- but restaurant a bit plain and without view. 10 minutes walk to town for other restaurants and boat ferry to Portofino and other destinations- but there is a bus stop very close.

"Great place to stay in beautiful town"
Jenni S, 20 Septembre 2016

The hotel is in such a great location and within easy walking distance to everything. We had breakfast included and there was a great variety. Our room was spacious with a gorgeous balcony overlooking the beach. Very well kept and clean. Private beach across the street (access via underground tunnel) was nice although the hiring of sun beds was a bit pricey especially for Australians!! €18 on weekends and €15 during the week. As the beach is rocky, you really need a sun bed. Overall we had an amazing time and enjoyed a late night drink in the bar sitting in the beautiful downstairs lounges.

"Time warp gem"
TheDoodles2014, 04 Septembre 2016

15 minutes walk outside the main strip is the best western hotel - inside and out a bit of a seventies time warp but a please tell one. The staff are very welcoming and the rooms are small but very clean. There is a small sun deck. With pool and jacuzzi where people quietly read and pass the time . The view is an impressive one . It's out of the main town so it's quieter and less touristy. Worth a stay .

"Wonderful holidays in San-Margherita Ligure in August 2016"
Vasyl_Kiev, 03 Septembre 2016

Stayed in this hotel, recommended by one VIP travel agent in Kiev as the best in the area of Santa-Margherita. Having the recommendation and some experience of staying in Best Western hotels in Europe we expected to have top level service, but missed some points, that seemd to be natural for these chain of respected hotels. Location is perfect, the beach organization and service the same, breakfast is reasonably Ok. But furniture in the rooms and some equipment ( air condioning and bathroom staff, that you can hear " from reception area" ) should be definitely renovated. Staff in general is very professional and positive, besides few receptionists, who opositely to their colleagues, either didn't try to help in the settlement of some issues or tried to outsource these issues to anybody else. The last case, that spoiled much our impression of the hotel stay, was unability of the staff to arrange a light so-called "early breakfast" ( so-called as it was at 06.50 on 31 august 2016 - only 40 min before regular breakfast time ) for us, as we had to catch the early morning train to Milano at 07.39. I asked for the early breakfast few days ahead and got respond on it's full availability on condition, that we apply to the reception the night before departure. We did so, but I got completely different respond - the lady on duty told, it was absolutely not possible. Ok, we had to accept, but next morning we saw the requested service, given to another leaving family. For me, it is the personal behaviour of some staff, but the impression refers to the hotel in general. I shared this point with the receptionist just before our departure, but I will fix the issues with my travel agent. It is not the case of money only, it is the case of the customer service. And the recommendation for the hotel came from my agent to his VIP customer, so the agent has to carry the responsibility for such case, not very often in my experience. Sorry for my openess, but I do expect to get proper service for the proper money, I paid .

"Great view"
perigoawinner, 02 Septembre 2016

At the end of the promenade it still sits in a great spot and has great sea views.Room air con wasn't great so left door open and listened to the odd wave.Breakfast good Small pool but I really enjoyed it clean warm and a view to die for.

"FANTASTIC! Loved it, no complaints"
Justine C, 01 Septembre 2016

We had an easy check in and parking was easy. The location is superb with lots of cafes and shops nearby and across the street from the beach..there is an underground tunnel to get to the beach so you don't have to cross the road. Our room was a nice size with a large bathroom. It is an old building but very well maintained. Our room was quiet and well appointed with a side view of the sea which was nice. Breakfast was ok, one of the days the entire 20 minutes we were there the scrambled eggs and bacon trays were completely empty and many people complained but nothing changed but what can you expect for 5 euros? We didn't eat at the restaurant for any other meals but did have room service one night which was very good. Do yourself a favour and take a trip into Portofino which is about a 15 min drive away, fabulous shops and a quaint little village, definitely worth the drive! We went to the beach which was nice with nice sun chairs (for a charge). It is a rocky beach (not sand) and not a wade out (had to enter from a dock) but that was ok, still very pleasant. We didn't use the pool so cant comment. Beds are very hard which we noticed was a common trait in Italy and so were the pillows. All in all a very nice stay and a great little village.

"Best part of our holiday"
Snooze01, 28 Août 2016

What a great hotel, friendly staff, great location, great beach facilities! Has a roof top pool if you don't want to swim in the beach. Rooms were very comfortable and very clean. Would definitely recommend!

"Classic hotel in a stylish resort"
PCuk67, 26 Août 2016

The Regina Elena has kept hold of its qualities, that make it a hotel that would fit into this classic resort. Its décor and furnishings seem to be in line with the elegant 50/60's Riviera feel, however this isn't to say it is shabby or run down. In fact it has kept true to the Santa Margehrita style and in most of the rooms it seems, some updating of the furniture has brought it in line with what is required of a modern hotel. Our room (as is the rest of the hotel) was kept spotlessly clean and even on a few occasion re organised, for our return after we left it in a bit of a mess , as well as having a turn down service before bed time. (compliments to the maid on floor 1). To be personal and non impartial my only moan would be the size of the room for the rate we paid. At Euro250/night and Euro18/nt for parking it seemed a bit steep, but on reflection and checking out other hotels this seemed to be the going rate for a resort as Santa Margherita in high season August.. The facilities were good. The small roof top pool and Jacuzzi along with the sunbathing space were adequate but this was made up for by the stunning views. The beach and beach bar were good, but again be prepared to pay Euro18/day for a sun bed (and we heard the front beds were given to Italian guests over any other nationality). In addition food and drink there was not the best of value. the beach was pebble and sea access was via a platform. The breakfast was good with a decent variety of food and drinks on offer, the breakfast room and outside area was light and airy (amazing ceiling!). There were plenty of lounges and a bar to use (although on these summer days were empty) I must make note of the car park. Although quite high rates, they did match comparably to road side or nearby municipal car park rates, but the unique highlight was the automated 6 level car organisation system, that took your car and automatically placed it (driver free) into one of the underground levels. Futuristic! The hotel was positioned on the far bay of Santa Margherita, about a 15-20min walk (past the port and various shops and restaurants) to the centre and ferry area. The bus service to Portofino passed the hotel and in fact we were told it was a nice walk to this beautiful sister town. All in all a lovely hotel with some good qualities and very friendly and welcoming staff ,worth considering

"More than disappointing"
angoliv, 25 Août 2016

Me and my nephew of 12 years old, English of Indian origin, wanted to ask for information to access the beach and went downstairs at the desk. A man with white beard was very unpolite with us (he almost throw on our face the price list) and when we asked for details about cost he was answering in a way that made us feel as undesired guest. Well, we have no desire to go back there anymore and we warmly recommend anybody else to go. Such a shame for a wonderful place as Santa Margherita.

"Perfect!"
Italy4, 25 Août 2016

We stayed here two nights on a Globus Tour. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. There was a little balcony off our room where we sat to enjoy coffee from the in-room coffee maker. The Breakfast Buffet was delicious and ample. There are several lovely reading rooms on the lower floor. We also enjoyed their beach across the street. Such a pretty location!

"Very disappointing experience at the beach"
angoliv, 22 Août 2016

I was there at the beginning of August with my nephew of 12 years old coming visiting from England (his family is of Indian origin), and wanted to ask information to access the beach. We went downstairs and the man with the white beard at the desk wasn't polite: he almost threw on our face the sheet with prices and conditions, and when we asked for having some clarification he was speaking to us in bad mood. Such a shame for a wonderful place like Santa Margherita.

"Great start for three week holiday in Italy"
Edward S, 09 Août 2016

From Milan, May of 2015, we headed to our first layover in Santa Margherita, Ligure. We arrived by car at Hotel Regina Elena and were greeted by our friendly staff. Our room included a covered balcony facing the water views. It was a beautiful view each morning and evening. The hotel is an easy walk to many great restaurants in town which we took advantage of. It is also a quick 10 minute drive to Portofino! The parking facilities are on property and below ground with an awesome mechanical feature that I had never seen before. The breakfast was a continental fare and included with the reasonable cost of the rooms. Impressed enough to return in 2017(already booked)!

"Double trouble"
barth0l0mew, 04 Août 2016

We had to pay for the room again as hotel ing.com went bust.the hotel upgraded us to a sea view in compensation.the tv did not receive BBC so they gave us another tv.the bar service and waiting service is poor.the bar's close early too.they didn't tell about the free bus service until the 2nd last day.they sent us to their beach restaurant knowing it was closed.the maid took our wine from the room and we had to ask for it back.we bought a ferry ticket from the hotel and the sailing was cancelled.the room safe did not work.

"lovely holiday"
smjackson1, 03 Août 2016

Stayed at this hotel 2days ago, after low cost holidays going bust we had already paid :-( got in touch with hotel told them what had happened , said we booked and paid for a sea view room on 5th Feb and would still like it !!! After few days of stress we got offered a mountain room , not sea view and as only week before who got our room!!! .... and we paid again so no loss to them ,,was given nice room and maid kept asking if all ok 'it was' beautifully clean etc breakfast ok but nearest to English was scrambled egg and bacon , pool lovely and got clean towels everyday didn't go on beach as 18 euros for sunbed, also no bar open in day and closed early at night so bought our own , hence3stars as more for more facilities loved area and portifino was amazing a nice chilled holiday with my friends

"Nice room, wonderful rooftop pool, friendly staff, nice breakfast"
Michael R, 01 Août 2016

We stayed for 3 nights while traveling the area. The rooms are small, and ours was facing the rear, so no view of the harbor. But we did have a balcony, and the bed was very comfortable. the wifi was also very good. The rooftop pool is great - nice size, but with an amazing view of the harbor. The staff was very friendly. And breakfast had a large selection of food, and a nice outdoor area for enjoying the morning sun. The hotel is a 5 min walk into town, which is nice and a tad quieter than being in the middle of town. This is a great place to base from when visiting Portofino (best done by ferry- a 10 mins ride) or a day trip (also by ferry) to Cinco Terra. There are also a million amazing restaurants all around town - with water views. Just make sure to make a reservation for a Friday or Saturday night in the summer.

"Great location, hotel infra and staff"
thaisfuncia, 29 Juillet 2016

My daughter, 5y, and I spent 2 days (too short I must say) over there! It's a lovely small city by the Mediterranean. Very hot on summer (of course) and we had a great time. The hotel is right in front of the beach, and besides it's wonderful view the beach is right across, don't even need to cross the street bcoz there is a subterranean passage so even better for kids. The beach has its free access to everyone. Just like most of the Italian beaches if you wanna a chair has to pay. I believe it is around 18 euros. The beach area is great! Restaurant, bar, a whole kids area with sand to play And it's in the shade. There is trampolim and small pool for kids up to 6 y. There is ping pong table for the teenagers. On the beach there are those gonflable plays and some other small island to swing to and have sunbath. Watch out as a reminder that it is not a sand beach. But there is a bridge to go into the water so you do not have to step on the rocks. There is a pool and a jacuzzi on the rooftop which is great for the view and bcoz the sun shines over there until late! So... We are able just to enjoy the place and the view and relax!!!

"Overpriced"
TomasCupr, 29 Juillet 2016

Overpriced hotel that got stuck in the 80s. Everything was grim apart from the location close to beach and rooftop pool. But service, rooms and dining was really bad. 20 m2 with 20 year old bathroom and shower from cheapest studio apartments in cities for over EUR 300 per night is not very good deal. Breakfast choice is very limited as well. Certainly not worth the price. On the picture is how they serve prossecco... Judge for yourself. 4 stars? No chance.

"Nice hotel"
Perry L, 26 Juillet 2016

Not to far from restaurants clean hotel decent room. We had a partial view of the sea which was nice . The hotel has a pool but easy access to their private beach where they have lounge chairs and umbrellas and towels for guests. Overall we liked it and would recommend it.

"Fantastic stay"
dmsuk_12, 25 Juillet 2016

Very warm welcome, early check in and a free upgrade to a sea view with balcony room, staff couldn't have been more helpful. Very clean room & bathroom with effective air con and comfy bed (for Italy!) Roof top pool & Jacuzzi a real treat, pick up towels from reception. Excellent choice at breakfast and you can eat outside too, good coffee m/c, great filled croissants, soft boiled eggs, lots of fresh fruit (many places we visited in Italy only seem to provide tinned fruit) Reception very helpful with bus tickets to Portofino, it leaves outside the hotel, but beware, it only runs once an hour, so do check the timetable. You can walk, but it takes about 40 minutes and some of the walk is on the road and you will take your life in your hands! The only minor negatives are that there were no UK TV channels and it was 12 euro to park out motorcycle, which is normally free.

"Not worth it. "
Maj S, 22 Juillet 2016

This hotel has a very good location but it need renovation. It is an over priced hotel and I think you can find a much better hotels for the same price. The good thing about this hotel it is a cross the road from the sea and they have access to the beach. Breakfast is less than normal and nothing special.

"Great Location & Service"
Rich D, 19 Juillet 2016

We spent two nights as a family of five (three young children) with interconnected rooms. The location was great, private beach was very close, service was great and welcoming to our family, black out "garage door" provided a good sleep and A/C was decent. Overall, a great family trip to Santa Margherita.

"Gorgeous indeed!!"
Selmapedretti, 18 Juillet 2016

We loved our couple of days in this hotel. In spite of the fact that we took basic double rooms, they were quite large and we had a lovely sea view from the balconies. The food was good and the staff very friendly. Breakfast was lovely, although not the high standard of other Best Westins we've been to. Still pleasant. I will return her with absolute pleasure! Lots of nice beach restaurants around. The Rosa just close to the restaurant a feast!

"11/10"
Tony D, 05 Juillet 2016

Brilliant hotel, far exceeded our expectations, perfect location perfect room, brilliant breakfast, brilliant service, amazing rooftop pool and jacuzzi, as far as we were concerned perfect in every way and made our stay in santa margarita, memorable, thank you a credit to a family owned hotel,well-done.

"Like in paradise"
Karl A, 05 Juillet 2016

Very clean and Nice room With view on the bay.Very helpful at the reception.Speaking several Languages. Delicious breakfast With much to choose from.Just a short walk Down under the road to the Beach With sunbeds. Various Food for lunch .

"The Best of the Best ..!!"
Marshaici, 02 Juillet 2016

This hotel is like a second home for us, for the last 15 years we made sure to spend part of our summer there!! It has everything you need to have a happy carefree vacation , with kids, or without.. Full four star service , plus the hotel has it own beach and an adjoining restaurant, another one is inside the hotel. Also , there is a underground pas way to a beach under the road , so the kids can go in and out with you not worrying about them crossing the road .. Once you meat the owners , you will be able to appreciate their hospitality and understand why every detail is thought through! It's a family business that passes from one generation to another, it's their work and they do it with pride! This year , we didn't recognized our room., all new, elegantly decorated with style and complimentary colors ! Highly recommend!

"Dissapointing"
fravial51, 01 Juillet 2016

How can it be possible that in a USS 270 plus room per night you hear during the night, the sewage noise while somebody above flushes the WC or takes a shower? Because that was my experience in this hotel. I would never return. They really need to close and rebuild it because location is excellent.

"Great hotel and great staff!!!"
wnbc, 30 Juin 2016

Booked online with priceline for $110. Only stayed for one night, but we were very impressed with their hospitality. The city was just starting to bustle with the summer tourist season and the beach was very inviting. Parking was expensive at €18, but they had plenty of space with the auto parking elevator. Highly recommend this hotel and plan on taking the whole family back soon!

"Value for money"
Gareth G, 30 Juin 2016

Great view, staff are helpful, they even gave us a bottle of sparkling to celebrate our honeymoon, position is good, breakfast was not bad, dinner in the restaurant could be improved. Portofino is 10 miss drive down the road.

"Not bad I suppose"
Roger L, 26 Juin 2016

Good reception staff, but the room although having a sea view (booked as such) really only looked along the "beach line" and not out to sea. All facilities were as described. We sampled dinner on our first evening and the quality matched the hotels claims. This hotel really needs a makeover. There seem to be no fewer than three lifts all serving a different selection of floors (the hotel is not THAT large) the inside of our lift resembled a small samsonite suitcase, it claimed a capacity of four but you really cannot be serious.

"Very nice hotel"
Drucy I, 22 Juin 2016

The personnel are very helpful, and the location is right next to town in front of the water with private beach access. The breakfast buffet is sufficient offering many options. There are some rooms that have private terraces overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. We didn't have one of those unfortunately. Our room was very basic located in the annex which seems to be older, however the bed was comfy, and it was clean. There is a large common area which includes a bar next to the lobby. We enjoyed our stay!

"Unreasonably pretentious hotel"
Mary B, 19 Juin 2016

Just spent 2 nights at the Regina Elena. It did not live up to expectations for us. The pictures on the internet looked beautiful. The back lobby areas do have an old-world charm but our room was Spartan. Two single beds with basic white bed linens and no comforter. Very cheap desk, one chair and a shelf completed the room's decor. We had to call to get a blanket. No in-room safe. Wi-fi in room kept breaking up so we went to the lobby to use it. Our room had a nice view except for the security light right in the middle of it. The sea side balcony was locked the entire time so we couldn't enjoy that. The restaurant dinner prices were ridiculous and the desk staff (except for one girl) was surly. Breakfast (included) was good and had a wide variety and the wait staff was nice. Rooms were clean. The hotel is right on the main road with the beach and sea on the other side of it. It would have been a good sleep except for loud traffic noises late into the night. (We left our window open to enjoy the breeze and hopefully the sounds of the sea. That didn't work out too well.)

"Not bad option in this great location"
MAB430, 07 Juin 2016

There aren't many reasonably and i-priced options in this area and it IS best to stay in Santa Mgrta-Ligure or nearer to Portofino and NOT the less-expensive Rapello which is busier and not nearly as nice. This hotel is located perfectly, has nice common areas, private beach, rooms are modern - but small, free wifi, but it is expensive for what you get. Also, the beds were very uncomfortable - ok if it's a low-cost hotel, but at almost 200 EUR/night its ridiculous. Breakfast was mediocre, but inexpensive (5 Eur/person for buffet). Yes, the area is expensive and its high-season but next time I'd try a smaller hotel as this is just over-priced for what it is.

"Lovely hotel"
nigel h, 05 Juin 2016

Could not fault this hotel. Great position Walk ,45 - 60 mins ,bus or boat to Portofino (inexpensive) Walk to town of santa margaita 5 mins to eat or shop Camogli by train 4 mins (from station) The staff so friendly , helpful, nice people.......all of them. They have maps (free) ,bus and boat tickets available. The sea view room amazing. Roof top pool ok a bit small ,but great to cool down or a small swim if empty.great for kids as lots of shallow. And Jacuzzi to boot. Breakfast plentiful and superb.eggs, bacon ,fruit ,meat ,cakes jams, you name it....well almost. Restaurant big and comfortable. Communal rooms well furnished Parking available ......extra. Beach. umberella and bed .....extra Free wifi Unpretentious gem !

"Great hotel with a fantastic seafront location"
avidtraveller, 02 Juin 2016

This is a great hotel right on the seafront at the top end of town in Santa Margherita. Rooms look like they have recently been redecorated with wood floors and a new bathroom. Little terrace outside our room was a perfect place for a light lunch. We enjoyed the breakfast which was in a large room off the foyer. Staff at the desk were friendly and very helpful. The hotel is about a kilometre from the main shopping/restaurant area but the walk down the hill is easy and the seafront so lovely to walk along. We enjoyed our stay.

"Lovely stay"
Evelineching, 01 Juin 2016

We had a lovely stay in this hotel. Our room is spacious and bed comfortable. We had a partial view of the sea and city as our room was at the side of the building. The rooms right in front should have a 180 degree view of the sea. The hotel has a small rooftop swimming pool and jacuzzi. The view from the top is lovely. The staff are friendly and helpful too. The location is not right in the town but about a kilometer walk north. Portofino is about 4 kilometers walk south but it is a very scenic walk. There are buses too if you do not want to walk. SML is a lovely seaside town and easy access to the Cinque Terre too.

"Beautiful location, great hotel."
gordo106, 30 Mai 2016

This is perhaps one of the nicest Best Western hotels that you could ever stay in. The in house restaurant is terrific and the hotel is literally right across the street from the sidewalk that runs along the coast. From there it is only a short passagiaty from the main town which is typically quaint. The rooms are quiet and accommodating which is a great thing in this location. Great hotel.

"not quite as advertised"
Cyril_Pernet, 26 Mai 2016

Overall the hotel is ok and staff is friendly (++) but for a 4 stars the services are not that great. We stayed the 1st week of April 2016 and it was nice and sunny, yet the pool supposedly open from April was closed, the beach was also closed and therefore no place for kids (no dates on the website), the gym is ridiculous with limited equipment. Whilst breakfast was nice, food at the restaurant is not that great, a shame given the superb room with view on the shore. Finally, as it was getting hotter everyday we ask for air-con .. ah well you see it's not on in the room at this time of the year (but is in other areas) -- so I'd say you could stay there but check when you are going because outside the busy months (june -- sept) you don't get what you pay for.

"Fantastic!!!"
cassiopeia42, 25 Mai 2016

Stayed here for 3 nights in room 530. Wow!!! The room is large as is the bathroom. The view is incredible as is the large terrace. We had an incredible time here. Both the beach and pool are great and the staff is so friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very nice and reasonably priced. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

"Great visit to Santa Margherita!"
BHD2013, 18 Mai 2016

Stayed 2 nights as part of a tour. Great room on the 3rd floor corner, view of the sea, beautiful! Hotel front desk staff very helpful. Was looking for a place to buy some wine. Was provided a little map and very good directions maybe 500 metres from the Hotel. Found this quaint wine shop with Tuscan wines and a very friendly young lady, got some wine and enjoyed on the balcony of our beautiful hotel room, wow. Would highly recommend this property.

"Great attention to customer service!"
KEITH N, 15 Mai 2016

We had a beautiful room overlooking the sea. Great for photography and just relaxing. The breakfast had plenty of choices: hot or cold, lots of bread and juices. We found that the front desk customer service we experienced was one of the best if not the best. Nothing was too much trouble! We enjoyed our lunch at the restaurant which was unhurried even though we had entered the restaurant 10 minutes before closing time for lunch. We would go back in a heartbeat!

"Excellent 4-star hotel "
Tom D, 14 Mai 2016

The hotel is on a good way to get a 5-star rating! The staff was very professional and always there to help. We had a great room on 3rd floor with a view over the bay and sea. It is a little noisy out on the street but once you close the window all of this disappears. The room & bathroom were recently renovated and the rooftop swimming pool & hot tub are your best friend after a long day of walking. The hotel restaurant was also very good!

"Value for money"
Peter M, 03 Mai 2016

We found the service of the staff great and they went out of there way to help. The hotel has parking on the side so that was a plus point. Make sure you choose a see facing room and close the external blinds if you want to sleep late. A little more effort could go into the breakfasts, we didn't have dinner at the hotel but there are some good eateries within 300m. Views from your balcony are great.

"Clean but small room"
Patrick I, 26 Décembre 2015

We stayed here with a group so maybe that was a reason we were given such a small room that faced the hillside behind the hotel. Others in our group had front rooms with views of the beach and coast. The room was clean and the AC worked fine. The front desk was accommodating. The Hotel itself is at the end of the "strip" which makes it a long walk to the town center.

"Terrible and snooty staff"
Singababe, 01 Décembre 2015

Snooty and unfriendly staff. Hotel is not at all what it appears to be. Aging facilities and overly priced for what it is. We were given the old part of the hotel without any view of the sea. Misleading website.

"Great stay here"
jodieandjeff, 26 Novembre 2015

We stayed here with our family and found it very comfortable and clean. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Great place to stay with a family and fantastic views from front rooms. The bus stop to Portofino is just outside.

"Magical View"
Joy V, 07 Novembre 2015

We had a room with a view over the sea on the top floor. The room was very spacious and the view magical. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Great access to the beach and restaurant. Continental breakfast was very good. Would recommend staying here.

"Amazing sat in a rooftop hot tub watching the lights come on round the bay"
Hammer53, 03 Novembre 2015

This is the second time we have stayed here and it is every bit as good as before. Even better as we made use of the rooftop pool and hot tub as the sun was going down in late October. The staff at reception were incredibly helpful. We were keen to buy copies of the lovely old posters they have but were on a walking holiday. They offered to post them to us even though that meant a trip to the local post office on our behalf. Talk about going the extra mile. The views are wonderful. Breakfast excellent. We will be back

"Sea across the street-Good staff"
5andiamo, 31 Octobre 2015

Private access to sea, private beach, and restaurant in front of hotel. Very helpful staff. We were with a tour group, so no choice of room, but were in an annex building, close next door, with a good view in front. Pool on main building roof top with a great 360 degree view. Main building has closer sea views. Hotel near various everything you want. It is truly a good 4 star hotel with rooms that are bigger than the average European 4 star. Large, beautiful lobby. Very good buffet breakfast.

"Great hotel!"
Peter C, 31 Octobre 2015

Nice modern rooms with good sea-side views. If you want a quick trip into Porto Fino then stay here. In my opinion, it's a 1 day trip. Porta-Fino is tiny and not much to see. I was diss-appointed in the the town . Santa Margheirita is lovely, but for just a day.

"1 night stay - Portofino."
Tony W, 31 Octobre 2015

As part of a 5 day British Airway Holiday this was a hotel with the wow factor! On arrival, lady at the desk was so helpful and seeing the hotel was quiet, upgraded us to a sea view. excellent room with balcony. The interior of the hotel is finished to a very high standard with some lovely paintings and chandeliers. A good choice for breakfast served in a lovely room overlooking the sea. The bus stops outside the hotel, and for €1.80 you can get the no. 82 to Portofino. This bus also takes you to the train station at S.M.L. - both stops being end of the line. Drinks prices were reasonable. The hotel has a room where you can keep your luggage until you depart so being able to spend a second day at S.M.L. or Portofino. Thank you to the two helpful ladies on the desk.

"Amazing views & great staff who are helpful. Especially Anita on reception."
Mary R, 30 Octobre 2015

Stayed for 5 nights. We had a balcony room with an amazing view. We have been travelling for 7 weeks in mostly 4 stars. The room & bathroom have been the cleanest we have seen. Thank you to the cleaning staff. Rooms are a great size for Europe.. The reception staff have made our stay so fabulous. They have been so helpful. A special thank you to Anita on reception. You are just the best. This hotel is so lucky to have you as an employee. You have just been outstanding. Hotel is located 5 minutes walk from everything. Would stay here again for sure. Parking is available at a cost. Internet is fast & free

"Great staff, perfect location"
Jelena064, 15 Octobre 2015

My friend and I were there for one night before returning to Milan to fly back to Australia..... The receptionist was the most patient, helpful girl and went above and beyond job description, assisting us with our rail and sightseeing plans that had to be changed at the last minute! Francesca (I think that is her name) printed bus and train schedules and recommended places for us to visit while we were on our brief stay! Santa Margarita Ligure was the most enchanting village we stayed in ( wonderful shopping, cafes/bars)and would recommend at least a week to explore the region! The accommodation was beautiful, breakfast and the dining room view, to die for! Thank you all for a very memorable and comfortable last night in Italy, I will most definitely return!

"THE BEST VIEW IN ITALY"
500Fraser, 14 Octobre 2015

The Ciana family have run this super hotel for over 100 years, with a spectacular view of the golfo tigullio, this has the most wonderful location that is a short walk to Portofino along the best views in Italy, then walking to the centro for many wonderful restaurants is a true Italian experience every time, the warm and very professional staff at the hotel make life easy, the breakfast is terrific, the beach is spectacular, the value given for said services is very fair, this is not the #1 fanciest hotel in Santa Margherita nor is it the most expensive, the value is terrific, go for the very best rooms, you will be rewarded with the best views, Piergorgio is the handsome grandson in charge, we will be in our 14th year in 2016 and spend 22 days of happiness, Tom Fraser

"Nice hotel in a good location."
Bill H, 12 Octobre 2015

Our tour group stayed here for 4 nights in October. The hotel was clean, the public areas were exceptional. The included breakfast was not as high quality as we have come to expect in European hotels. The room was small but generally comfortable though the shower was so small it was difficult to turn around in. The location is great, in a quiet area, yet a short walk to "downtown" and across the street from the bus line. Views from the waterside rooms are great.

"Wonderful Hotel"
anna7509, 10 Octobre 2015

Hotel Regina Elena is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. I stayed for two weeks and enjoyed every minute of it. From the first greeting upon my arrival to my final farewell, I found each member of staff to be friendly, helpful and very professional in all my dealings with them. I thought my room was a decent size for a solo occupancy. I had a lovely balcony, TV(BBC news, CNN news France 24). The bathroom had all that is required of a bathroom, lots of room, fresh towels everyday, and a "window" that allowed maximum privacy! The hotel is decorated through out is a very unique and interesting style- I loved that. There was plenty of really comfortable seating to the rear of reception and there was always someone to chat to. A laptop was available to guests- free of charge!! Breakfast was cereals to bacon & scrambled eggs, to boil your own egg, to fresh fruit, breads and sweet cakes, yogurts, cheese ham, tomatoes. Fruit juices and tea and coffees- from a machine - fine! I loved the private beach, it was rock swimming which I love, lunch was served in the beach area. It was great to feel you could just leave your bits & pieces lying around. The port was just about a 5 minute walk from the hotel and another 5 minutes will bring you to the main town, but I always spent time in the port area looking at the wonderful boats and yachts. Lots of lovely shops to check out, the area is not overly developed and it was charming. Portofino was 4km from the hotel and the footpath evapourated in places. The hotel has a well stocked bar and there was always groups of people sitting around anxious to chat with someone new. I never got to see the pool on the roof, so I cannot comment on it. It is a lovely hotel, but what makes it great is its wonderful staff.

"Fantastic"
SamanthaMeeds, 09 Octobre 2015

Stayed at this great hotel at the end of September. Service staff and food first rate. Rooms were a good size and spotless. Food was good with a great selection of buffet breakfast. Only slight draw back was the fact that it is used by several tour companies and their early morning departures could be a little noisy. Would definitely go back

"Touring Italy"
Dearjay, 08 Octobre 2015

Beautiful area, nice hotel. The staff were very nice. We were on a group tour and while the restaurant in the hotel only accepted reservations we were denied service. Our tour director failed to let us know that as soon as we walked through the doors, we were to have made reservations. We went to our room, freshen up, came down and were turned away. It was a disappointment after a very long, long day. However, on the bright side, the bar made us and another lady a cheese sandwich.

"Another wonderful visit"
Krystina A, 03 Octobre 2015

We have just arrived home from another wonderful stay at this fantastic Hotel. We cannot fault this gem at all. Everything is perfect. The staff are all friendly, the food is good and a great choice at breakfast. The Hotel is a perfect location, wonderful views and spotlessly clean , lovely pool and hot tub with sunloungers on the roof ! We stayed in room 428 and was perfect, we cant wait to visit again, thankyou to everyone for a wonderful stay.

"Good Four Night Stay, But Busy!"
dhen, 29 Septembre 2015

Stayed in room 326 facing the bay. Great views from the room. The balcony was very spacious and great for watching the sunrises in the morning. Loved the electric shade you could lower by the railing to cut off the afternoon sun. The room had two closets that each held a large suitcase laying flat if you wanted to keep thing organized in your suitcase, a shelf above for shoes. Lots of hanging space. Easy to stay organized. The bathroom was nice though small. Still there was room to organize your things. The provided breakfast was better than average with lots of selections. A great bar and adjoining rooms for visiting and relaxing. The staff was very helpful and attentive. Easy walking distance to many restaurants and less than a mile to the train station. The only down side is the hotel's main clientele consists of large tour groups that are there for a day or two. The restaurant / breakfast and sitting areas are very large and accommodates everyone well. Overall, a good place to stay.

"Thank you Hotel Regina Elena"
Geri Z, 27 Septembre 2015

We have been to Italy several times but must give a great big thank you to the very professional staff at this hotel. We can't praise the service staff enough. We would like especially to commend your choice of the smiling face at the desk ( Valentina) can't recall the others who were equally as nice & helpful in every way. Know too the delightful view from our room & from the eating area which we enjoyed every morning. This hotel offers bicycles which you can ride to the town square or even to PORTOFINO, which we walked. Good exercise but we did take the bus home . We also used the rooftop pool & hot tub which helped after our long walks. We would definitely choose this hotel again!

"Great location and the nicest staff ever!"
NoreenBranagan, 21 Septembre 2015

The Regina Elena has a great location. A very pleasant 15 min walk to the town centre. Small rooms, but good shower room. Super friendly and helpful staff. Pleasant lobby and pool area on rooftop. An all round good experience.
