    « Great Hotel! »

This was our 2nd visit to this hotel. It's very good value. Lovely, super clean rooms with really nice linens. The restaurant on the property is amazingly good! A sweet touch is the aviary outside, full of brightly colored finches. The front desk staff is very nice, professional and helpful. They also have fresh coffee, with to-go cups, on offer 24/7. There is also an outdoor swimming pool. I would highly recommend this property to all; couples, singles, families and business travelers. Can't say enough good things. It's my husband's new favorite in Santa Barbara!

« The best hotel in Santa Barbara »

The Encino Lodge is a wonderful place to stay. The management and staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. The disabled apartment is a great addition. My father-in-law was able to comfortably use the bathroom and shower. The food at Live Oak Restaurant was tremendous. We cannot say enough about how wonderful our stay was!

« Surprisingly exceeded our expectations »

We really weren't expecting much for a BW property but this one was quite nice. The bed was super comfortable and the room was nice and spacious. It would have been even better if we had a balcony. The food in the restaurant was amazing, and even though breakfast isn't included, preferred it to the other restaurants nearby. I agree with the other reviewers and like how the location of the property was tucked away in a quiet area. I didn't like however how small the pool was and I never went because it was always crowded and I couldn't find anywhere to sit. It also would have been nice if there was a hot tub. Besides that, I'm glad I chose this hotel and felt like I got the most value in terms of pricey SB hotels.

    « CONVENIENCE WITH CONFORT »

Within walking distance to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara. Professional and friendly staff with wonderful attitudes. Rooms are clean and fresh smelling. For business travelers there the WiFi is fast. Restaurant is within the same parking area with great food and service. They also offer room service. Beds are very comfortable.

    « Rude, unkind receptionist on 11.17.16 »

I've stayed here twice now - both times I was having jaw surgery and my surgeon recommended this place as they offer a (small) medical discount. The first time I stayed for surgery, the staff were fantastic (Nov 2015) but this past week there were a couple of incidents I felt compelled to write about here. Upon check in around 9pm of 11.14.16, the guy was super abrupt and unfriendly, but it was not a huge deal, just disappointing. However upon checkout at 2.30pm on 11.17.16 the bill was a LOT higher than I was expecting, so I went to the reception to ask them to talk me through the charges. Mind you, my face was massively swollen, my head wrapped in thick bandages and I could barely speak as my jaw was frozen shut. The woman got in my face with her voice raised and a horrible snotty attitude. Again, I could barely speak and looked a mess. I managed to say, "I'm fragile and trying to cope with this right now, please don't shout at me." And the woman laughed and said she wasn't yelling. She acted as though I was a total pain because I didn't immediately understand the bill. Thank god my post-op carer was with me for support. You would think the hotel staff member might be patient and kind to someone who can't even speak and was obviously in pain. But no. I was frankly appalled by this. In future I will stay somewhere else. If you choose to stay here, be prepared to feel like the customer doesn't count.

    « Tired old motel »

This place is straight out of the 80's with a modern bathroom and a flat panel. The wall safe is too small to fit anything, the furniture looks like it's from an estate sale, and the bed and pillows are the rocks you'd expect from an old hotel. However, the staff was very nice, providing a flashlight and great directions and tips for walking too distant restaurants late in the evening.

« Fabulous hotel and staff »

We arrived prior to check in and received a very warm welcome. We had several appointments and the staff was extremely helpful with directions. Front office was helpful with maps, fruit, water and coffee. Our room was comfortable, clean and spacious. The on-site restaurant is elegant with great food. Next time you visit Santa Barbara this is the place to stay. Wish there was a 6 star rating.

    « Surpassed my expectations »

Arrived 3 hours before check in. Reserved a 2 bed room and got upgraded to a two bedroom suite. We were able to cook our own lunch and dinner. The rooms are a little dated with the wallpaper but it was very clean. Close to the Santa Barbara Bowl and all the restaraunts and bars on State St. We checked out closer to 1pm with no trouble at all which I appreciated. The hotel has a farm to table restaurant but did not try it. The pool looked clean. We had everything we needed for a pleasant stay and if we needed anything we had no trouble getting it from the front desk. I will stay here again when visiting Santq Barbara.

    « Really Nice Hotel »

We stayed here for a lacrosse tournament. Easy to get to, comfortable rooms and good service. Restaurant on site was a terrific bonus. Great breakfasts (try the pancakes), excellent service and fabulous value. Had dinner one night and we were very impressed with the service, food and variety of beer and wine.

    5
    « Three night stay »

The hotel had a shuttle that picked us up from Santa Barbara airport earlier than our expected check in time. We we re upgraded to a king size room for no charge. The hotel restaurant was good for breakfast, the ground were well kept, clean and safe. The room was slightly outdated, but very clean. Bed was comfortable, refrigerator was a nice surprise, and return airport shuttle was helpful!

    « Brilliant hotel »

Great service and hotel, we got a room with a kitchen, with a huge oven, fridge and all equipment to cook. Very convenient for breakfast, we even cooked a dinner here. Big and comfortable room. Very quiet surroundings, nice walk downtown. Would stay here again.

    « Feels like home »

Due to sad family circumstances I have had the good fortune to find this hotel to help me through. Only a block away from COttage Hospital with special rates if you have someone at hospital. Very clean and comfy. Staff is so friendly and helpful. Restaurant is very good ! Real bath mats in the bathroom, ceiling fans, complimentary bottled water, fruit, cookies. Walking distance to downtown if you can do a mile or two. Peaceful and quet, not on highway. Great place to stay, reasonable prices for Santa Barbara.

    5
    « Family vacation »

Really enjoyed staying at the hotel it was clean and amenities were good, location was a little out of town not quite walking distance but this did not prove a problem as uber was easily parking was available and on site would defiantly stay here again

    4
« Good value, Nice Staff »

Very convenient location that is fairly close to 101 Freeway. Rooms very clean and the hotel staff is generally accommodating and professional. Price is reasonable for this area. Would definitely recommend.

    5
« Extremely helpful in a very stressful situation »

I spent 6 nights to be with my brother who was having open heart surgery at nearby cottage hospital. The staff picked me up at the train station. They shuttled me to and from the hospital. They found and let me borrow a phone charger. The room and amenities were excellent but the entire staff was incredible. Their help and great attitudes were "over the top". I also enjoyed the good food at the charming restaurant. They could give "Customer Service Lessons"

    5
« Great Santa Barbara place to stay »

This hotel has nice very clean rooms and the people working there are always helpful and also welcoming. The area is quiet and yet close to downtown Santa Barbara. They have a very nice restaurant on the property and the food and service is excellent. The pool area is well kept and relaxing to sit at and read. They also have complementary parking which is so nice. So many hotels charge to park.

    5
« Good value very close to State St. Santa Barbara »

Stayed 2 nights with my daughter for a lacrosse tournament. A very comfortable and quiet neighborhood setting a couple of blocks away from State Street shops and restaurants. Easy walk to dinner and back.

    « Lovely room »

Great place to stay. Our room was upgraded to a suite , it was huge. Nice and clean and all amenities . No breakfast but restaurant on site which looked nice but we didn't use. Santa Barbara beach is 30 mins walk away , but restaurants about ten mins drive in taxi. Don't try and walk anywhere !! British tourists set off for the short walk!! Stop !!! No street lights ! Pitch black! It's ridiculous , why don't people walk in California ? It's lovely ! Anyway they don't , nice hotel man will sort you a taxi out , about $8 plus tip. Decent shop at the hotel, plenty of free parking, pool looked fine.

    4
« Nice motel for 1 night stay »

Stayed in a 2 bedroom suite. Plenty of room for my family of 5, except small bathroom. Would've thought with the size of the suite, the bathroom might have been bigger. Check in easy, staff were pleasant. Didn't get to explore the surrounding area as we got in late afternoon and left early the next morning. We ate at the Live Oak Café, food and service were great.

    4
    « A nice 1 night stop »

We stayed at the Best Western for a 1 night stop. The hotel is located in a very quiet residential part of Santa Barbara which was about 1.5km away from the sea front and the excellent funk zone. Check in / check out was easy and the hotel offered free parking and complimentary coffee which was a massive bonus. The onsite restaurant was very nice and we were served for both lunch and breakfast by Daniel who had A+ customer service. The rooms were very clean and stylish. If I had a complaint I would say it's a bit too compact and the double room I stayed in was very difficult to walk around with luggage thrown into the equation. But overall I enjoyed my stay and would recommend.

  • 4
    « nice location »

this property is nicely situated for getting around santa barbara easily, the freeway is about three blocks away and there are surface streets you can take if you choose to avoid the freeway. The hotel was quiet and like a best western hotel, not real fancy but comfortable. We had no problems with our stay.

    4
    « Great staff »

Interesting property. Was condominiums, covered to a hotel. Good sized rooms; property is very spread out, if you don't have a car they will take you by their golf cart to your room. Front desk is great for advice on where to go and eat. Only negative would be the poor quality in-room coffee.

    3
« Friendly staff, awful noise »

Stayed here once before a little over a year ago and did not have the best experience. Hotel management was quick to respond to my complaints once I returned home and thought I would give this place another chance next time I was in SB. Unfortunately this stay was just as bad. Pool lawn chairs and room furnishings still look old and outdated. Location of hotel is in a residential area which I like. Easy to get in and out of yet close to attractions. Was greeted promptly upon arrival and appreciate the fact that rooms come with small fridges and complementary water and fruit. The main problem came at 8:30 in the morning when hammering started one room away from us. Within an hour they had brought out power tools. The shed where work supplies are kept was right next to our room. Was looking forward to sleeping in since check out is not until 12, but guess not! When I checked out, I played a video recording of the noise in my room and the gentleman looked genuinely surprised. He was the same person who I checked in with. He apologized and gave me a complimentary bottle of wine. If this was my first time here I could be more forgiving. But if I was management I would have made extra certain everything was okay with my room seeing as how my previous visit had been so disappointing. It's upsetting that this Best Western cannot appear to get it right.

    5
    « Road Trip »

We stayed for 2 nights while on a road trip down highway 1, we had a 2 bed apartment which had full kitchen facilities if needed and was well fitted out. A little far away from the beach although we did walk down would be too far if you had younger children but good bus service nearby. Santa Barbara is a lovely relaxed city with loads to see.

    1
« Human Blood on Bedsheets »

**BE AWARE - BLOOD FOUND ON BEDSHEETS** We stayed at the Best Western Plus Encina in September 2016. Upon returning to the room after a day enjoying Santa Barbara, we were getting into bed and noticed human blood on the bedsheets. When we called the front desk to express our frustration, they informed us that the hotel was full and no alternate rooms were available. While housekeeping came and changed the sheets, the fact that management would require us to stay in a room where we found human blood was subpar customer service.

    5
    « Wonderful Stay! »

I feel Best Western Encina is a wonderful hotel. I felt that the check-in was easy, and staff was polite and professional. I enjoyed the restuarant for my evening meal and was very impressed with the food and service. My room was neat, clean, and large. I appreciated the comfortable bed, and loved the hard candy left in my room. I had a wonderful stay, and will definately stay again.

    5
    « Perfect hotel »

This was the perfect hotel for our stay in Santa Barbara. The room was spacious and had a homely feel. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was large. It had everything we needed and was only a short 10 minute walk from downtown and another 10 to the beach.

    4
« Good hotel in a good location »

We had a suite in the Fiesta Building, on the second floor. Since we like to walk, it was a good location, although State Street would be a bit far if you wanted to walk all the way south. Loved the kitchen since breakfast is not included. The room was large and very comfortable. The absolutely only drawback was street noise from Los Olivos Street (which dies down later at night, so not terrible) and a humming sound coming from the roof, which I assumed was related to ventilation. But then, I'm very sensitive to sound. Not bad enough to request a change in rooms.

    5
« My favorite Best Western »

Conveniently located. Pool, hot tub and restaurant. right across the street from Sansum Clinic. close to beaches if your are driving. Close to some really fabulous restaurants if you are driving. the staff is always friendly and as many times as we have stayed here, we actually know some of them.

    5
    « Great place »

We stayed in just for one night and were impressed with how clean it was. Location is also good, about 25 min walk from the Main Street. Staff were very helpful and friendly and the price was affordable.

  • 5
    « Comfortable stay »

Although this trip was for medical reasons, it was very pleasant and convenient to stay in a nice place and within walking to the medical facility for our appointments, cuts way down on the stress and hassle

    5
    « nice experience »

Very comfortable hotel with good location and nice pool. Suites are very nice and have full refurnished cooking area. I would recommend the suite accommodation, especially for families with children or friends who travel together. In the hall we found complimentary coffee, tee and fruits in the morning and lemonade in the afternoon.

    4
    « Great location & cute »

Stay here when working for Cottage Hospital, but hotel is in convenient location for work, going to restaurants, beach, wharf & access to highway. Like convenience of on site restaurant since changed hands as well as reasonably priced menu. Aviary next to restaurant & pool is relaxing to watch finches & has always been kept clean.

    5
    « Hospital surgery »

I was at this hotel because it was across from the hospital. The treatment at the hotel was excellent and caring of our situation. They were very understanding of my wife's needs as I was in the hospital. The room was great. We had a king sized bed which was very clean and comfortable, They had wifi and a large TV with multiple channels. All and all we had a great experience under the circumstances.

    5
    « Holidays »

We spent 4 days in this hotel during our holiday trip ( total 25 nights). This was definately one of the best hotels we had during our trip. Rooms were good, staff was very friendly and service excellent. Breakfast was very good ( the best we have experienced in 25 days) and was reasonable priced. Swimming pool is small / basic, though of you come early you can find a good spot. We walked from the hotel to downtown which is a nice 20 min walk ( beach is 10 min extra walking).

    5
« Lovely, peaceful and friendly. »

Stayed just one night while travelling highway 1. Room was really nice, comfortable beds with lots of space and nice touches such as good quality toiletries and robes. Our room was in a block away from the main hotel and was based around a nice little court yard - very nice. Pool and hot tub also very good standard. Didn't eat in the hotel but the bar was light, open and friendly, and the menu looked good. Obviously good attention to detail. I would stay again.

    4
« CLEAN, QUIET, COMFORTABLE AND EXPENSIVE »

We travelled to Santa Barbara to watch the Old Spanish Days Fiesta parade on August 5. The hotel prices for that night were outrageously priced. We chose the Best Western Encina Inn & Suites on Bath Street. After getting over the shock of the price we enjoyed our room. The location was safe. Our room was small but very comfortable and well appointed. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel staff was friendly. We took a taxi to the parade location in the morning and later to the Paseo Nuevo shopping mall to watch the Flamingo dancers.

    3
« No elevator and no help with luggage »

We were on a road trip with the family and had a lot of luggage but this hotel had no elevator. My room was right above the reception and when I had to carry my 5 suitcases for my family to the 1st floor, I passed by the reception each time but no one ever offered to give us any help. Other than that, our room is fine. Decent size. Traditional decor.

    5
« Checked in and extended »

Checked in last night "standard king room" really impressed by the room the hotel and the helpful staff we extended our stay by a further two nights. The room is great and the bed is super comfy gives a great nights sleep. Haven't tried the pool yet but it look very inviting.

    5
« Amazing little beachfront town »

The rooms are a bit pricey during summer but we had an amazing time. The staff was very courteous and accommodating. The rooms were lovely and ample. I would recommend this hotel to anyone as it's located near everything. The pool was very clean and the hot tub was perfect and soothing. The little cafe they have feels like home and like your dining in a garden. The room itself is clean and the layout is lavishing.

  • 3
    « Comfortable stay »

It is a reasonably pleasant "motor inn" style hotel located in a quiet, residential neighbourhood. On the positive side, staff were friendly and the rooms quiet and clean. There is a pretty good restaurant on site, called the "Live Oak". Nicely kept grounds too. But the rooms are a little dated and the rate I paid was a little on the high side once taxes has been added. Overall an OK experience.

    5
    « Bargain Pricing....Excellent Service and Value »

I was able to book my stay through Priceline and got a steal of a price. I arrived at 3:30 and was promptly greeted by the Front Desk manager and checked in. They were sold out and very busy, yet didn't rush me at all. The Property is lovely and tucked away in the middle of a quiet and very safe neighborhood. The grounds are spotless. When I checked in, I received a voucher for a free glass of Wine at their on site Restaurant. Took advantage of that little bonus. I was not able to sample the food, but the menu looked great. When I got to the room, I was shocked to see how large it was. I had a full kitchen with an eat in dining area and a large bathroom and two recliner chairs. Bedding was perfect, nice new flat screen TV, and the room was spotless. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone traveling to SB. It has a nice family friendly location with a great pool area, and perfect for a long term stay with the kitchen. Also, its Just a short cab/ or uber to Downtown or the Beach.

    5
« very comfortable, quiet and well maintained. »

Great spot. Not far from down town. Restaurant on site. Spacious and comfortable for the price. Friendly staff. Only challenge is parking. Get there early or you may have to walk a bit. Our room had a full kitchen. Hotel has recently been updated. Nice for an older building. Reminds me of a swiss chalet.

    5
    « Wonderful Property »

Enjoyed our room. It was nice and big, along with a great kitchen with a small stove and microwave. Nice little table and chairs to sit and eat at. Also a nice window in the kitchen to look out. Very relaxing.

    5
    « Beautiful Best Western »

This is a beautiful Best Western to stay at, definitely the best one we have been to. Immaculate grounds, kept perfectly landscaped, quiet, serene pool area, beautiful rooms with every amenity you could need covered. Great gift shop in lobby. Nice restaurant right on grounds. Would stay here again and again.

    5
    « Excellent hotel chain »

The reception offers tea , coffee , juices , fruit for free , the restaurant is not free but reasonably priced . The hotel is located in a quiet part of Santa Barbara , we stayed here for two nights as part of our holiday on the California west coast .

    5
« At home in Santa Barbara »

We stayed in a double room with a kitchen for 2 nights. The room was very clean and the beds were super comfortable. The kitchen was fully equipped, with a full sized fridge, microwave and gas stove. If you don't want to cook, the Encina has a full service restaurant and bar. The staff are super friendly, great people. The location is very quiet, a neighborhood feel to it. It is just a block away from the hospital. Staying at the Encina is more like being at home than in a hotel. I will definitely stay there EVERY time I am in SB.

    3
« We must have had the loudest room. »

Our room was above the grounds keepers garage. We could hear everything they were working on starting in the very early mornings. What was most disappointing is some of them smoked while they were working. Smoke came right up through our windows...yuck!

    5
    « Lovely hotel »

We start here for two nights in a family room with 2 double beds. Lovely and clean and nice touches like bottled water, boiled sweets, fruit, biscuits. Our room had a fridge and safe (very small) along with coffee maker, iron and ironing board. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is tea/coffee available in lobby too along with a small gift shop. Pool looked nice though we didn't use it. There is a washing machine and dryer for guest laundry (one of each). Reasonably priced at $1.50 per load for washer and $1 for dryer. Detergent available for $0.75 from lobby. Breakfast costs extra if required. Other meals also available at average prices - food delicious and service very good. You also get a voucher for a free coffee when purchasing breakfast or free glass of wine when purchasing a main meal. We walked everywhere; lots of restaurants and lovely shops in the area. We were lucky enough to be there when the Spanish Fiesta was on (first week of August) so the town was a colourful and a happy place. I would recommend this hotel.

    4
« Good place for families »

We stayed here for 3 nights. The family room was a lot smaller than the other family rooms we had stayed in during this vacation. The 2 double beds were also a lot smaller (double bed size not queen size). This made sleeping as a couple more difficult especially due to the warm room. Air con was present but was preset to 74. This could be lowered but was noisier. The hotel did provide fruit and water , which i thought would be in the first day only but it was provided daily. A nice touch. It was appreciated. Breakfastwas not included but we got a cereal and milk (fridge present in room) from the local Trader Joes. Coffee was present along with a coffee machine. The room was situated at the De La Vina end and this proved ideal for all the great local restaurants on De La Vina. We ended up walking almost everywhere. Overall I would recommend a stay here due to its location near all the restaurants and the natural history museum and the SB mission.

    « Clean hotel »

My husband, daughter and I stopped here on our trip up the coast. It was a Saturday night so lost everything in Santa Barbra was booked up. This hotel was fine for the price. It was clean but not impressive. The decor and furniture are outdated but at least in was spotless. We enjoyed seeing the birds with our young daughter in the morning.

    5
« Great Place to Stay for Families »

Great place to stay on a family trip. Stayed in one of the 'Hacienda' suites and this worked out great for the four of us with plenty of room for all. The suites come with a kitchen and great outdoor patio. Very near the pool and restaurant(Live Oak Café). Easy access off the 101 freeway(Mission St Exit)and to down town and the Mission area.

    5
    « Cottage Hospital »

Stayed here due to family illness. Comfortable rooms, beds, Directv, fruit and cookies in room, refrigerator small but okay. Friendly staff. A/C and some rooms had ceiling fans. No continental breakfast

    4
    « Good place »

We stayed for a night. Room consists of 2 queen beds. Seperate wc & shower (rather large), only 1 sink. For an unknown reason we got a smoking room instead of a non-smoking one. Received a bottle of wine to compensate. Must be said that there was hardly any smell in the room. Friendly staff at the reception. Quick check in. Not close to the beach, a couple of blocks from the main shopping street. Gives a good feeling. Breakfast 8-15$/pers

    4
« good place for families with small children »

We stopped in Santa Barbara overnight on our was to San Simeon and Hearst Castle. Our room was clean, quiet and near the pool (just outside our patio door). The staff was accommodating and gave great information about the local attractions. Although they didn't provide a contenental breakfast, there was a estaraunt on site that was reasonable. We will stay there again when travelling with the grand kids.

    5
« Superb Santa Barbara Gem »

Great little hotel in a great spot! Super comfortable bed in a spacious room with a full kitchen. Also on a quiet street so you can get a really great night's sleep. I would stay here again. Good value for the price. Friendly staff, good onsite parking.

    3
« Very dated decor but good sized rooms and helpful staff »

Decent location...bit of a walk to state street shopping and restaurants so it is best to drive. Parking was plentiful and cheap. Room décor is right out of the late 70's early 80's so it is a bit of a time warp. But the rooms are well sized and the staff was very helpful with maps, directions and tips for local restaurants. I would stay here again.

    3
    « OK »

Maybe we got the last available room out something, in the corner facing the street, with quite the disturbing noise in the morning. Room was clean, I guess, but very dated, crowded and the beds were narrow. After having caught a movie at night there were no available parking when we came back so we had to park on the street. The pool area was decent. No included breakfast, and the on-site restaurant was both expensive and had an eclectic menu not suitable for kids/teenagers.

    1
« Stay somewhere else lse »

Badly run down hotel. Rooms are dated with broken mismatched furniture. Bathroom was dirty, with water damage and possibly mold. Rags are dirty and have not been cleaned in a long time. Management is rude and apparently never heard the word customer service. The hotel does not deserve a three star rating, one at best. Stay somewhere better like motel six.

    5
« Wish We Had Stayed Longer »

This room was great! It was clean, modern, and very comfortable. The room was very light and airy and we appreciated that since Santa Barbara was hot that day! The queen bed and pillows were comfortable. We were so impressed with this hotel, we wished we could have stayed an extra day! The cost was comparable for the area, also.

« Very comfortable and accommodating »

I was on a road trip with my family, and booked the hotel via Priceline when we were leaving our prior stop. I made an error booking a single bed (for 2 adults, 2 kids), and didn't realize my mistake until I arrived in the lobby. The manager was very accommodating even thought it was my mistake, and arranged for us to move to a 2 bed room. It was a nice stay, and we particularly enjoyed the bird atrium! Thanks!

« Good last minute option »

Suite was clean and pool was good. The restaurant is pricey and has "healthy" options such as whole wheat pancakes which are not terribly popular with kids. We arrived late and the night auditor went out of his way to help us get settled. The pool area is nice and our kids had a lovely time!

The grounds are beautiful, the entire staff is great, especially Helen, she always makes me smile and laugh, great front desk lady. The grounds are well landscaped and clean. Bathroom linens are great and plentiful Fresh fruit, candy always in the rooms along with real glasses and coffee cups. Restaurant on site.

    « Clean and Comfortable »

We had an extended medical exam at Cottage Hospital and chose this convenient hotel. They accommodated us wth a discount due to the medical necessity of the visit. The room was clean and comfortable and they offered good coffee and fruit in the office, a mini frig and in-suite coffee maker and supplies. Our bed was comfy and we had several pillows. Our room was next door to the kitchen suite and I will never want that room again! Someone with a blender and a booming voice awoke very early each morning. The parking lot filled early and the only available spaces were on the street.

    « 2 nights in Santa Barbara »

We spent 2 nights in Santa Barbra over the July 4th celebrations, we had a 2 bed suite and the hotel was very good , Staff were very attentive and professional , plenty room and near to Santa Barbra's State street, room had a fridge ,oven , hib and microwave with the necessary crockery, pots and pans , over all best of the 3 hotels we stayed in on our trip along PCH albeit with no free breakfast

We stay here a few times a year when we go to Sansum Clinic. The location is excellent. The property is excellent and the staff is outstanding. Good restaurants are a short drive away. It is walking distance to the clinic.

« Comfortable, quiet, very good value »

We needed a room for one night in Santa Barbara and didn't want to pay an exorbitant sum to be a half block from the beach, nor did we want to stay in something too low-end. This Best Western fit the bill, is a couple of miles from the wharf in a nice quiet neighborhood at a very reasonable price for the area. The room was clean, comfortable, and spacious - note we actually got a free upgrade to a larger room because of someone else wanting to stay longer. Parking in their lot wasn't visible from the street (good :-). Our room had a kitchenette which was very handy as well. Didn't have a chance to try the restaurant but I believe we'll be back.

    « Loved it!!! »

I was not expecting to be so happy with this hotel, but we were very impressed! We were upstairs above the restaurant overlooking the pool and the room was very spacious, clean, very comfortable, light and welcoming. The complimentary fruit and cookies were a lovely touch. This hotel is not stingy but very kind and friendly. The photo of the spa didn't look overly inviting however we loved it and the photo didn't do it justice. Happy hour had some very affordable nibbles that my family and I shared. We spend afternoons by the pool with the children. It was very relaxing. Thankyou for our wonderful stay??

This is a great, convenient location, especially during medical visits to Sansum clinic. Sure reduced on the stress and driving time to get to and from appointments. Really enjoy staying with the Best Western facilities.

    « Nice quiet location. »

Our room was in the main building (same as lobby). A little on the small side but comfortable for one night. Bathroom was well supplied with new towels and little bath goodies. Coffee maker, candies, fresh fruit and cookies in room. Coupons for free wine and coffee with a meal purchase. I only used the coffee coupon. Coffee also available in lobby. Excellent breakfast with diverse choice of meals. Mine included sauteed kale, spinach and mushrooms. Very good. I did not use the bar but they seemed to have a nice selection of taps (micro-brews!). Sleep quality could have been better, not so much the hotels fault. Some knucklehead decided to idle his diesel pickup truck right outside my room at 5:00 am. I'll return.

    « Amazing staff »

Stayed at the Best Western Encina Inn for 3 nights and after I checked out and was on my way, realized I left some jewelry in my room. Immediately called and spoke with the manager, Anthony. He personally went up to my room, found the jewelry and kept it in the office safe to which he is the only one who has the code. he was amazing and a life saver. He has followed up since then, letting me know they have been held safely until I was able to come picked them up. I can't thank him and his staff enough for their honesty and professionalism. Should I find myself back in the Santa Barbara again, the Best Western is where I will stay. Thank you Anthony.

    « A Great Place To Stay »

I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the suite we had for the price. The rooms were comfortable and quite. I was not expecting a full kitchen! I wished they had the free breakfast option. The restaurant was nice, but pricey and service was a little slow.

    3
    « Loud Neighborhood »

Stayed there two nights. Woken up both days at 7AM by the caretaker of the adjacent facility running a leaf blower (7AM!!). Won't stay there again based on this simple fact. I can't imagine this is the first time this issue has come up. Why wouldn't the owner of this BW property negotiate with the facility to control unreasonable early morning noise??

    « Was a nice getaway »

It's a short drive to the beach, but with a great restaurant, a nice pool, weight room and hot tub, you really never need to leave. Great place to relax! Also the weather in Santa Barbara was perfect. What a great town to visit, and this Best Western was a very nice place to stay.

    « Good for families »

The 2bedroom single floor suites are safer for young kids than the 2 bedroom townhomes with steep stairs, although the town home has a larger single bed bedroom with a king, whereas all the beds in the single floor suite are doubles. We still went with the single floor because of the steep stairs dye to having a stroller. One of the only places to get a 2 bedroom for a big family. Cute aviary and pool area. Not a five star resort by any means, but totally adequate for what we needed. The carpets seem a bit dated, so I felt the need to keep my shoes on an not let my kids lie on the floor, but it wasn't necessarily "dirty". Convenient to have a little apartment with dishes microwave and fridge. They do provide dish washing liquid. Live oak restaurant on property serves breakfast until noon (pretty good but not cheap) and check out is at noon. Overall nice stay!

    3
    « Average but Expensive »

This hotel has a nice location but the product is from the 80s and the pricing is way above the quality of the product. On top of that it provides no breakfast and to get coffee you have to purchase breakfast. That's just ridiculous for a property that charges over $200 per night.

« Wife needed to be close during my surgery »

This hotel is one block from Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara and has an association with that hospital as a place for friends and family to stay when wanting to be close by a patient. I was that patient. Hotel didn't look like anything special but we took a chance and we are glad we did. On the morning of my surgery, the patient ahead of me having his surgery developed into a problem surgery. They had to reschedule my surgery for two days later after my waiting 6 hours in pre-op. Went to the hotel to see what could be done. Standard policy is a cancelation fee. After telling the Manager about what happened, he changed my wife's reservation for two days later in about 45 seconds, no charge. My wife said her room was great, the staff was wonderful and the hotel restaurant was quite good. Their hospital discount on the room was better than we could do on our own. They had full facilities and we appreciate all they did. Highly recommend them for a place to stay.

« Decent place to stay for a few days »

We stayed at this hotel for two nights just to visit Santa Barbara and surrounding areas after a funeral for a relative. We had room 490 and my brother had room 494, both are 1st floor rooms and 494 is a corner room with the side next to Los Olivos Street. The overall stay was alright. The room was clean, functional, though on the smaller side. Room 494 had a better layout but my sister-in-law said that she could hear people walking and talking on the street sidewalk very clearly. She also heard footsteps from the people above. We did not have that problem with our room 490 but I just don't know why there are so much mirror from floor to ceiling. Maybe it is to make the small room seem bigger? I don't mind the small room. If there was a big earthquake, the entire wall can come crashing down with cutting shards of glass all over the floor and we would be seriously cut when trying to run out of the room. Management, please take note when you do your next remodel of the rooms: Take out the glass!! The layout of the toilet/bathroom is accommodating toward people who go to the hospital nearby. They have Q-tips and cotton balls for wound cleaning. We stayed here because we wanted to walk to Mission Santa Barbara for their I Madonari painting event. It was a good six or seven blocks or so and make you hot and thirsty. Afterwards, you can stop by McConnell's Ice Cream, which is a couple blocks from the hotel, for a scoop of their yummy ice cream. Check in and out of the hotel were done quickly and courteously. There is a restaurant on site for breakfast or dinner. The food there is decent. There are some good restaurants nearby if you look them up. Last time we were in SB, we stayed at Harbor View Inn which is right next to the pier and across from the beach. I would recommend it over Best Western if you don't mind spending double the price that is here. The restaurant at the TIP END of the pier (at the end of State Street) has very good food.

    « Totally gratifying experience. »

Every aspect of our stay was a joy! Upon arrival, reception had our paper work ready so all we added was vehicle information. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean, . as was the bathroom. Room service is available but we enjoyed the ambiance of the on the grounds restaurant. The menu was varied and creative. The restaurant could easily be a "downtown" destination of its own. All in all we whole heartedly recommend this hotel.

« Good price, good location »

We stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Santa Barbara. On arrival we were concerned we had made a mistake choosing the location but we needn't have been. Yes, the hotel is too far out of town to walk to the beach but we had no trouble driving into town and parking - free all day beside the beach (may depend on what events are happening in town!) and also used the free trolley between State Street and the beach. This all made our stay a reasonable price. We had a very quiet second floor room in one of the blocks at the rear. Large room with all amenities, possibly a little dark but it didn't really matter to us. Wifi worked fine. As mentioned hotel is in a quiet residential area. The staff were polite and helpful - there is a small shop in the lobby. They don't provide breakfast but there is a restaurant next door you can use for breakfast and dinner - we chose not to, although the hotel provides vouchers for a very small discount equivalent to one cup of coffee at breakfast. We brought Danish pastries in town and used the provided coffee maker instead. Plenty of parking. The hotel is about five minutes drive from the Mission, which is worth a visit. Very pleased with our stay and would be happy to stay again.

    « Great Hotel »

This hotel is a great place to stay. The staff is amazing an the overall experience was great. The grounds are very pretty. The finches in the aviary are a really neat feature to this location. The facility is huge and has every type of room accommodation you could think of..... Regular rooms, suites, and even apartments.

« Great stay for medical trips »

Directly across the street from Sansum Clinic and Cottage Hospital, this is a safe environment, clean and pleasant rooms, with large screen televisions and a refrigerator. With a restaurant on the property including room service, its the go to place for persons wanting to be at the heart of things in Santa Barbara. Just streets away from State Street and all things Santa Barbara dining, it's definitely the place to be.

« Clean and close to downtown. »

We reserved this place last minute for Memorial day weekend and I had a fear that we would show up and it wouldn't be nice enough. As soon as I drove up, I was pleasantly surprised. It looked great and was in quiet little neighborhood. The room was clean and big. They even had a bar/restaurant downstairs. I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

    « Get a First Floor Suite »

We got a first floor suite and stayed here for two nights with two small children. It was great being able to walk right out the sliding door and let the kids swim in the pool. The suite is definitely on the small side but it worked ok for a baby and a 3 yr old. The kitchen is too small to do any real cooking but we made breakfast and ordered in dinner. We ordered Pizza one night and take-out from the restaurant at the hotel the other night which is very convenient although not as reasonably priced. We had a good experience. The room is not aesthetically modern but that doesn't bother us. It has two nice TVs although the one in the bedroom in our room is placed in a tough angle to view from the bed. The key really is the sliding glass door out to the pool area. I wished we had stayed an extra day just to hang out at the pool. So to sum up, good service, convenient to restaurants etc especially only a few blocks from Mcconnells's Ice Cream. Not fancy but a nice setup if you can get a first floor suite on the pool. We enjoyed it.

    « I like this hotel a lot »

This is an unusual property in that they have about half a dozen different buildings, each with a different kind of accommodation and a different level of updating. Some rooms are excellent, some are just OK. All are very clean and the beds comfortable. The staff is, for the most part, very professional and helpful. The grounds are nicely landscaped, but not lush. A very convenient location for medical visits. I plan to stay there again whenever I am in the area.

« Great for people going to Cottage Health »

    « A hidden gem! »

One block from Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara. No, not a high profile location like Cabrillo Blvd or State Street. Very convenient location if you have business with Cottage Hospital, Sansum Clinic or a myriad of physicians. It's an older property and one of the cleanest properties of have ever stayed at. The grounds are immaculate the rooms are sparkling clean. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. Checking in they noticed it was going to be my birthday in a couple of weeks and I was presented with a nice bottle of Pinot from a Santa Barbara winery. We had dinner in their restaurant that night and it was fantastic! We had the Chicken Piccata and it was perhaps the best we have ever had. A hotel restaurant! Incredible! We were able to get a special rate as my wife was going to have surgery in the hospital the next day. They have an aviary next to the restaurant filled with Finches and they are so fun to watch. They have a nice pool area to relax in. Surgery went well and my wife is recovering. I would highly recommend this special property.

    « Beautiful property and well-run hotel »

We stayed at this hotel for a week and enjoyed it very much. The gardens are lovely and well-maintained and the room was well-furnished and a delight to be in. There is a full-service restaurant on the property and the front-office staff are pleasant and helpful. I appreciated having a computer and printer available in the office for use by guests, especially when it came to to print-out our boarding passes for the trip home. A sign of the welcoming nature of this establishment is the beautiful aviary housing a large number of happy and colorful finches in front of the restaurant. The only drawback was that the hotel was not as close to downtown as we had hoped - so we needed to drive instead of walk to most of the places we wanted to see.

« ?Beautiful, charming, clean and friendly? »

The staff is extremely nice and helpful when asked. Hotel provides a shuttle to Amtrak station. Walking distance to the State street. The room 245 (2 queen beds) was extremely clean and well appointed.

    « My go-to Santa Barbara hotel »

It's quiet, reasonably priced, and always clean and comfortable. I've stayed here quite a few times. They also have larger rooms with kitchens, but when I'm traveling alone on business a regular room is fine. I like to stay off of the De la Vina side (which is the very back of the hotel) because of street noise, but most of the hotel overlooks the central pool area and I've never had a problem with pool noise. The hotel is a block from the hospital and I think most of the guests are business travelers and possibly hospital-related. I don't see a lot of families or younger adults so, again, it's usually quiet and peaceful. The on-site restaurant is convenient, but pricey and the food is never bad but often isn't great either. It's better to go downtown for food and drinks, or the hospital has a café that is supposed to be very good.

« Wonderful hotel, restaurant and staff! »

Several of us spent over a week at this hotel as a family member was in nearby Cottage Hospital. I can't imagine a more perfect place to stay long-term during a stressful time like this. (I travel a lot, and most hotels, even luxury hotels, would grow old very quickly.....this one did not, in any way.) It's an older hotel/motel, but renovated so that everything you need is in the room (on a par with a luxury hotel). Very comfortable. The restaurant was unbelievably good, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We went back repeatedly, not just for the convenience but because the food was exceptional. The staff were exceptional, flexible and understanding of guests who are there for the reasons we were. (There's also a hospital discount if you are staying at the hotel to visit someone at Cottage). The aviary, pool and hot tub also provide a welcome escape (and "therapy"). The walls are thin and I'm a light sleeper but I never had a problem with noisy neighbors at night (my daughter did, one night). A small price to pay for an otherwise perfect experience. We are grateful for this hotel, restaurant and staff and will stay there again in the future, whether hospital-related or not!

    « Comfortable & convenient »

Staff is great, location & convenience is of great value. Restaurant food & prices have greatly improved since past years. Older hotel, but it is quaint. Would be even better experience if all rooms had a microwave oven for use. Only kitchenettes have more than a small refrigerator.

« Nice stay and friendly staff »

On our roadtrip from L.A. to San Francisco my wife and I decided to stay for two nights in Santa Barbara. After three overwhelming days in glamorous Las Vegas we were happy to calm down and find time for relaxing. After a long travel of about six hours we arrived at 8 p.m. in Santa Barbara and tried to find a hotel spontaneously... an interesting search began and we had to learn that even in the evening some hotels offer regular prices instead of offerign a good deal to ensure that their rooms are booked out. Finally after deciding to leave the coast line (one motel offered USD 300 per night!), we found the Best Western Encina and got a good deal from a very friendly staff member. Finally we paid USD 370 incl. taxes for two nights and enjoyed two relaxing days. Beside to the fact that Santa Barbara is a cute place with a nice shopping street, a historic pier and a huge marina, we also learned about the culture and history of this town. Back to the hotel: charming room with a (small) bath room but very comfortable bed. The BW Encina offers a self laundry and drying service which allowed us to wash some clothes after one week roadtrip. We had a very tasty breakfast and dinner in their restaurant and both, at reception and at restaurant, staff is very friendly. When we checked out, the reception gave us some advices for our upcoming route towards San Francisco and we left Santa Barbara smiling. Thank you for a nice stay, even if the pricing is not the cheapest, the overall impression of Santa Barbara and its Best Western was good!

    « Relaxing hotel »

My wife and I went to Santa Barbara for a night we normally don't like a hotel when the door exits to the outside but this hotel is in a very nice and safe area it's close to the downtown area and easy drive to anything in Santa Barbara the staff couldn't be any nicer the rooms are very clean and relaxing most have a private balcony this is the quietest hotel I've ever stayed in it was sold out for the night we we're there and didn't here anything and we had the balcony door open this is a great place stay. It also had a dvd player in the room very nice touch.

    « Clean comfortable room »

I stayed one night at this Santa Barbara hotel. My room was large, comfortable and very clean. They do small things to make you more comfortable. There was a candy dish filled with hard candies on the desk, a bowl of fresh fruit and shortbread cookies near the coffee maker. My room even had a recliner and a rocking chair to relax in. The grounds of the hotel are also very well maintained and the onsite restaurant served a delicious breakfast (not included with room.) I have to say that the décor in my room was a bit out of date. The wallpaper reminded me of the 1970's but everything was clean in and in perfect working order.

« Cleanest hotel I've ever stayed in! »

Beautiful "motel" style hotel. Older but extremely well maintained and CLEAN. Rooms are generous size. Restaurant and bar on site. Pool area and gift shop. Very quiet and away from the busy downtown area. We walked to the ocean (2.5 miles each way). Uber rides are available if you don't have a car. Also there is a hotel shuttle. Staff is very helpful and pleasant.

« We stay here every year - very convenient »

I stay at the hotel almost every year when I visit Santa Barbara. The rooms are clean and well-kept. Many rooms look out onto the pool, but if you don't like that there are plenty of rooms that don't. There's a hot tub/Jacuzzi, laundromat and restaurant on site. Hotel also has a couple of townhouses that are great to stay in if you're traveling with family. Location is good. There are two really good breakfast places and a great ice cream shoppe within walking distance. A drive of less than one mile puts you on route 101. Parking was adequate and free... I've never had a problem finding a space.

« Decent, affordable and convenient. »

Stayed here from 4/22/2016 to 4/24/2016. We stayed in a suite with 2 rooms, bathroom, kitchen, and living room. Rooms and bathroom were clean as well as the kitchen. Pots, pans, utencils, stove, microwave are all included. A/C was available in all rooms and the free wifi was pretty strong. Lots of channels were available on the TV. If you want to save money, ralphs grocery store is nearby. 20 minute walk, 5 minute drive. There are some restuarants nearby ralphs and a cheap gas station. There is a pool, hottub, gym and laundry facility. Its pretty small and basic. Nothing exciting. Parking is free. Fortunately, it wasnt crowded mid april. I thought the staff at the front desk were all hospitable and catering. I would say the biggest PROs were -Location: close to 101, safe area, grocery store, State street -Affordable: This place looks outdated but for the price, you cannot beat what is offered.

« Clean, Quiet, and Comforable »

The Hotel has gone without any updates since the 1950's. But, they did maintain the interior and exterior, without disturbing the consistant theme. Pros: Very clean. No loose tiles. Drawers, doors, and cabinets in good working order. Fully stocked Kitchen. Up todate LED TV's and cable services. Excellant coffee selection down at the office. Landscaping and walkways are well maintained. Seated deep in the local neighborhood, you would have never guessed it was even there without our faithful GPS. Cons: Very Small bathroom, especially for a suite. Signs of rot at the base of the vaniety. Economy toilet seat. Louvered windows whistle with gusty winds. Crowded walkway, a seriously trip hazard, with the tables and chairs lining the way to the stairwell. (I stumbled into them every time, almost sent a chair through the window.) The Resturant was as expected. Terrible. Desserts sit out all day (I can't believe they nuked the bread pudding.) Sandwiches were very dry. High speed wifi was very slow. Awkward parking at best. No free complementry breakfast.

    « Quant »

Very cute little place. 2 levels in kind of a U shape. No elevator so if you are second story you have to carry suitcase up but it is quiter up there. Restaurant on site with good food. Free parking. Free coffee in lobby. No bathtub was disappointing but not unusual in California. About 10 minutes straight down to the beach. For the price in Santa Barbara would definitely stay again.

This property blew me away. The staff were all very nice and professional. I appreciate how they take pride in making your stay a memorable one. I knew I was going to have a peaceful night of rest when I walked into the room and the aroma was so fresh and fragrant. The room was immaculate and everything worked and was in great condition. The amenities are everything you want while away from home. The location of this property is close to EVERYTHING! The cost was nothing compared to the value you get. This property made me sign up for the rewards program! Treat yourself to this gem of a property, you will not be disappointed.

« Clean, quiet, omfortable and lovely with fantastic food and service! »

This garden lodge was clean, quiet, comfortable and lovely, with one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at anywhere (and we live in a destination spot with many fine hotels and eateries). Located midtown, the hotel is just minutes from the historic downtown, the old Mission Santa Barbara, golf courses, parks, beaches, wineries, and many other local attractions. The Encina offers the amenities of a small Old World style boutique hotel with the charm of a bed and breakfast inn, with private patio or balcony rooms and apartments, room service, a fabulous cafe and restaurant, a small garden pool, massage, and many other amenities. The ambience is the common Spanish colonial theme in the area, and the entire hotel is bursting with flowers in the many garden areas, and even growing along with the railings. The entire reservation, arrival, and check-in process went smoothly from start to finish, with their polite, helpful, well-trained and customer service oriented staff doing everything they could to assist, from the free shuttle (from the train station or airport) to being driven by the shuttle driver to our room. Our room, although a bit dated (they are in the process of updating and refreshing all rooms), was clean, quiet, comfortable and spacious. The adjoining Live Oak Cafe features breakfast, lunch and dinner, with room service available, and fantastic meals and ingredients. The orange juice is literally fresh pressed on the premises daily, from the best oranges I've ever tasted anywhere. Their coffee is fantastic as is the food, which tends to be healthy choice oriented (although with tasty offerings like ?maple espresso? and ?Pacific Rim? bacon bacon that is prepared on the premises), for the most part using organic and fair trade certified ingredients to produce the freshest, tastiest, and best-prepared meals I have ever had anywhere - which for me includes 30 countries and all 50 states. There is a large and charming aviary adjacent to the restaurant and pool with a thriving population of finches of various kinds, which began years ago with the pet of the young son of the owner, and grew with additions and ?donations? over the years. The aviary encloses a magnolia tree, and includes nesting boxes, many of them constructed from gourds and coconut shells, as well as fresh food and fruit daily, and fresh water from a stone waterfall in the enclosure. It was great fun to sit at the window adjacent to the aviary and watch the antics of these tiny feathered acrobats while enjoying some of the best food available. Taken on the whole, it was a great experience, and if we are ever in the area again, we will be staying at the Encina!

« Worst hotel ever.....please read before booking. »

I'm having a hard time writing this review but I feel that I owe it to the tripadvisor community and since I relay 100% on this website when I book hotels. Do not know where to start but I will just do it. First, I called the front desk at about 8:30pm to ask for the hours of the swimming pool and the hot tub and I found myself on the receiving end of someone who apparently hates his job and does not want to be there working @8:30 Incredibly unprofessional and very rude....shocking. Second, they still have smoking rooms and one of them was next to us. The air-conditioning units are located in the front of the room and brought all the smoke to the inside of room....terrible. Third, the rooms have not been updated since the 80's and the carpet smells so bad. Fourth, location is terrible compared to other hotels. Fifth, the room rate was as high as $267.00 per night....that is the rate of the Hyatt on the beach or another hotel in Santa Barbara that has better location, rooms and service for SURE. I wish that someone else had wrote this review before but oh well.

    « Best Western Encina »

I love the location and the treatment I receive when I stay at the Best Western Encina. I have been there several times before over the years and it is the only place I would stay in Santa Barbara. All the staff there are friendly and accommodating. I would recommend the Hotel to anyone.

« Another awesome trip to Santa Barbara »

It is so convenient for us to stay at Encina due to medical tests etc. But it is a very fine hotel, nice staff, and we enjoy our stay. The room is always clean and good working condition. It is handy for us to park there and we can then just walk to Sansum Clinic or Cottage Hospital. There are several eating options walking distance from the hotel which also makes it handy and convenient. We have stayed here often and will continue to do so.

    « Very Comfortable »

The accommodations were perfect for my group and I. we stayed in the 2 bedroom suite which slept my party of 6. We dined in the on site restaurant, which I must say, the food was delicious. It was a comfortable stay with good customer service. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and family.

« Encina Lodge & Suites, Santa Barbara, CA »

I am an attorney in Los Angeles and have a number of cases in Santa Barbara. I usually go to Santa Barbara approximately once a month. The staff here make every effort to provide me with the type of service that I need. I am a smoker and finding a hotel/motel that accommodates smokers is difficult. The staff at Encina Lodge & Suites always make sure that I have a smoking room for all my stays. This is true even when rooms are limited. I would not stay at any other hotel/motel while in Santa Barbara, CA.

    « Good for families »

I was traveling with my daughter to visit colleges over Spring Break. This hotel is located with easy access to, but not next to, the freeway, in a mostly residential area. It is not really walking distance to anything except SB Community College. It was about a 15 minute drive to UCSB. We stayed in room 329 which was in the back and pretty quiet. It was a good sized room with a comfortable bed, extra chairs, a refrigerator, closet, dresser, and desk. The property has lots of out-door lounging areas, e.g. court yards, grass and a pool area. There is an on site reasonably priced restaurant with good food and bar. We had dinner there for under $30. Service at the front desk was super friendly and helpful. (The waiter was a pill.) I would definitely stay here again.

    « Great experience »

Had a wonderful stay. Friendly and helpful staff, beautiful grounds, and a nice restaurant. We stayed for two nights. On the first night the people in the next room played loud music and were very noisy late into the night. One call to the front desk, and the noise ended.

    « Outstandingly Convenient »

We've been staying at the Encina Lodge for several years for appointments at Sansum Clinic. We've enjoyed outstanding service both at the hotel and at the conveniently located restaurant on the property. Convenience and excellence all in one!

« Clean Comfy and Courteous »

We were here just for an overnight stay prior to my wife's surgery at Cottage Hospital (they offer a 10% hospital stay discount). The were very accommodating with the room and location on their property to make it easy for my wife to get back and forth. The rooms are a little dated, seem like they have been partially refreshed recently, but the beds are comfortable, the room is spacious, and they are very well cleaned. They have a restaurant/cafe, pool, whirlpool, and aviary on site. Good 1-night stay.

« "What is there to say..." »

This is my second visit to this hotel. My first visit was as a guest with family members attending a July '15 wedding in Summerland. I was so impressed by the premises/amenities I promised myself to come back. Just last week with time on my hands I decided to take a train from LA to visit one of my favorite cities, Santa Barbara!! I planned a 2 day stay and the BWP Encina Lodge was my "go-to" location. I couldn't have had a better experience. Thanks you guys!!

    « A good Place to Stay »

While this hotel is not fancy and is a bit of a walk from downtown, we still like it a lot. The rooms are spacious, have comfortable chairs (a real plus), everything is clean and well cared for and the staff is very helpful.

    « So Nice! »

This is a cute, well maintained property a block from Cottage Hospital. The rooms are sparkling clean and the staff is very accommodating to family visiting loved ones in the hospital. It would also be a great option for a vacation stop in Santa Barbara as long as you have a car to get to the local attractions. The garden and pool area is very pleasant and there is also a good restaurant on the premises. The restaurant is a vastly superior option to the food in the hospital cafeteria! Many thanks to the Encina staff for their kindness and flexibility during our stay.

    4
    « Convenient »

A comfortable and convenient place to stay when going to Sansum clinic or visiting patients at Cottage Hospital. Transportation available from Amtrak, and airport. Staff pleasant and helpful. Price for area good, discount for Sansum.

    4
« Close to Cottage Hospital »

This Best Western was with in walking distance to the hospital while we were visiting a relative. They gave us a discount since we were staying to see someone at the hospital. The room was clean and well put together.

    « Wonderful,wonderful, wonderful »

This will be our sixth year of staying at this property. We stay for 3 months in the winter in one of their one bedroom suites. Always feel like a member of the family and you can constantly say the service is their business. It is in a quite location and the beaches, mountains and neat downtown area are near by. They always are able to exceed or expectations, year after year.

    « Encina Review »

This property is very close to Cottage Hospital and the Sansum Medical Clinic. The staff is very much attuned to the fact that on many occasions people are going through a traumatic time. They have seen us, personally, through several rough patches and have bent over backwards to ensure we are looked after and whatever way it takes. They remember us and do not fail to ask after our health. They have always done their very best to accommodate our requests for particular rooms or suites. They have taken deliveries for us and have forwarded things to us. Carol Johnson has schooled her staff in what the word "service" means and they fulfill it to the nth degree.

« Cozy and comfortable with special touches. »

This was our third stay at this location. The room included fresh fruit, Lorna Doone cookies, bottled water and coffee. The restaurant "Live Oak Cafe" is on the property. The food was delicious and the service outstanding. Akio at the front desk recommended the chicken piccatta and it was excellent. The checkin staff was very friendly and accomodating. We are looking forward to another visit in the summer.

    5
« Very attractive and quiet »

In a largely residential area, so exceptionally quiet; nor was there noise from other guests. Very attractive and relaxing atmosphere. A 10 minute drive at most from downtown. Restaurant next door was quite nice. They also have an aviary with over 100 finches. Some guests ask for rooms near the aviary, but we couldn't hear the twittering from our room on the other side.

    « Pleasant hotel stay! »

I love this Best Western Plus hotel, because I know I will have a pleasant stay. To begin with, the hotel bed and pillows were inviting, allowing me to have a good nights sleep. After my peaceful sleep I enjoyed a nice breakfast from the on-site restaurant. Checking out was a breeze, allowing me to get to destination quickly. I feel all the staff are outstanding. I will definitely stay again.

« Best place to stay!! »

We stayed in a two bedroom suite Friday and Saturday night and we were in love with the place!! It was a full on apartment and we just moved in for two nights! It was clean and quick service when we asked for extra towels. The location is perfect! A $5 uber ride to downtown and $6 uber ride to the beach. Can't beat that location! Would stay here again and definitely recommend!

    « CLEAN & SAFE »

Victor checked us in. He is just WONDERFUL! We were on our 18th anniversary. Victor went above & beyond to make our stay a grrreat one! He's a pro, polite, helpful, sweet, & kind! All the other staff we came in contact with were polite & nice as well. The whole place was very clean & we felt safe. Its a good location. Everything we wished to see & do wasn't far. Its an older place, but looks good. Towels, & wash cloths were clean - looked new & smelled FRESH! Bed was comfy. Bedding was 4star bedding. The TV in bedroom wasn't working. We didn't report it as my husband figured it out and fixed the cables that weren't connected correctly. I'm 100% sure that had we called about it not working - they would have sent someone to repair it pronto! The only con is the toilet water pressure was weak & slow. Made sure to not place to much toilet paper in it at one time in fear that it way not flush correctly. Its an older building & some such things are to be expected. Wasn't a problem. We ate at the restraint for breakfast. Its has a wonderful staff & beautiful covered patio. HOWEVER - never ate there again on the 2cd day. The coffee & service is great BUTTTT ----- the food wasn't!!! It was very strange --- I had an omelet with BROKEN UP BLACK BURNT BEACON in it. It was the WORST I've ever seen or tasted. My husband had a different dish with beacon as well. It was beacon slices cut in half & BLACK BURNT TO A CRISP! NOT A GOOD CRISP! My husband checked the bill as it appeared a tad on the high side. They charge you $3.00 for your toast! We've never seen that prior. Toast usually comes with your order. HUMMMMMM???????? We feel a NEW COOK is much needed. Pool & spa was very clean! For an older property it is well maintained & pretty! Over all its a GREAT place to stay & we will stay there again.

    « I LOVE this place! »

This is my hideaway, where I can go, be treated well, and be comfortable. So much so that I never really want to leave when it's time to go home! I always book my next stay as I am leaving. I really am looking forward to my next stay at this property!

    « Excellent »

I have stayed here for the past six nights and have nothing but good things to say about the hotel. I was extremely lucky to be upgraded to a one bed apartment with patio overlooking the pool. There was a kitchen but I had no need for this. The room was cleaned daily to a high standard. The room looked dated but it wasn't , this was the intention . The bed was extremely comfortable and wherever I went the wi-Fi was excellent. Each day I went to reception where there is coffee and always found the front desk team to be very friendly. I ate at the onsite restaurant on three occasions and found the food to be fine and the prices ok. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. Thank you for a lovely stay.

    « Totally exceeded standards! »

Sometimes BWs can be iffy, this one however exceeded all expectations and we would absolutely return without hesitation. The Live Oak restaurant and bar on site is delish! They were incredibly prompt when I asked someone to come check out the TV.. Turns out, we were the numb nuts using the wrong remote. The room is good size and spacious and we even have our own little balcony. It's in good proximity to just about everything... Sterns Wharf and all the good pubs and shopping on State Street. Staff was excellent on all fronts and would totally recommend this is place to anyone.

« Convenient Location in Expensive Santa Barbara »

This Best Western was in a good location for us, as we attended a wedding nearby and wanted to be close. It is also close to the Cottage Hospital. Quite easy to find and plenty of free parking! Quite expensive for a Best Western, but in Santa Barbara, I guess that is what you get. We were able to check in at 3:00 PM which was a plus. We had a room in the back on the 2nd floor with a little balcony, which was nice although the weather was not too good. Nice large bathroom with plenty of counter space ! We did take advantage of the pool. There is also a nice-looking restaurant off the pool, but we didn't get the opportunity to try it out due to the wedding. The hotel reminds me of a lot of the older style California motels. The room was quiet and the A/C unit was perfect. About the only slight downer was the reception staff - somewhat abrupt, not friendly, nor helpful. Perhaps they were rushed and had bad days. All in all a good hotel and good location.

« Very comfortable stay for a family »

We recently stayed here with with my entire family. There were five of us in one room. It was very spacious with fairly high ceilings. The room had 2 beds and a pullout couch. The room was very clean and off the road so it was very quite, it also had a nice balcony. The only downside to the room was the bathroom only had one sink. We were there just short of a week and it worked perfect for us, our other family stayed here as well and they had no complaints. Its a short drive to the beach and downtown. Its obviously not in the heart of downtown, but its much more peaceful then downtown having stayed at several of the hotels in the city center. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. After leaving some items behind, Helen was very helpful in ensuring they were returned to us. The free wifi was also very good and we had no problems connecting. We would certainly stay here again and not hesitate to recommend this to our family and friends. The Encina Lodge is a great value for the price, accommodations and location

    « Best Hotel Ever »

My husband and I had a wedding to attend in Santa Barbara, CA. and wanted to spend the night so we didn't have to drive anywhere. We often stay in Best Westerns and this one is fantastic. Everyone was happy, gave great service and went out of their way to help us. Everything was clean and spotless. The pool was heated and large. The hotel is in a quiet location and the restaurant is excellent and reasonably priced. Bar is cozy. Check-In at 3pm and Check-Out at 12 noon, a plus these days. Everything is styled in 2 story buildings. Finch cage outside restaurant is fun to watch. We will return here to relax. The best!

    3
« One night stay, not two »

The staff was friendly, but the PLUS is not there. Our rooms looked outdated, the carpet is not the usual hotel carpet, but a household carpet; the AC units is noisy. Neighborhood is not close to the main Santa Barbara scene, so we had to drive to get groceries, breakfast, etc.

    4
    « 2-bedroom townhouse »

We are travelling with our parents and stayed at the 2-bedroom townhouse. Living room and the kitchen are downstairs and two bedrooms are upstairs. The kitchen has some pots and dishes. Living room and one of the bedroom have a TV. Quite spacious for our purpose. And location is good.

    5
« Close to Sansum Clinic »

A clean, comfortable place to stay when visiting Sansum Clinic - which is right across the street. Our room had a great view too. Easy walking to good restaurants but there is an excellent restaurant on site as well. Nice staff. Well maintained.

« Comfy and cozy place to spend the night before surgery. Like the guest room at Grandma's house. »

Very convenient for procedures at Cottage Hospital, which is a block away. This is an old hotel that has done a very good job of preserving the positive aspects of ambiance and hominess while still keeping it in good repair and up to date. It doesn't try to be something it isn't. It just provides a pleasant, clean and cute place to stay in the heart of Santa Barbara.

    5
« Large comfortable rooms, nice amenities, good customer service »

Stayed here twice, both times it was great. While it's not super up to date, it was in very good shape. (So if you're all about the design, you might have a problem with it, but that's *your* problem). The room that we had was huge with a high ceiling, and had two actual comfortable living room-style upholstered chairs (recliner and regular) so you could kick back and relax. Bed, bedding, towels, toiletries all on the higher quality side. Fridge and coffeemaker worked fine. Maybe a microwave would be nice, but didn't really miss it. The absolute best part about this place is they were very flexible about later checkout times and options. So many hotels are really obnoxious sticklers about this, but each time here the staff has been accommodating. Not everyone in the world is on a freaking get up at 8am schedule, so it's a relief to find a hotel that will work with night-owls.

    5
« The little things count! »

I stay in hotels more than a third of the year for business, and I've stayed in dives and six-star hotels. This hotel has some of those nice things that I've not seen even in the very-high end hotels. Small things, but still nice to have - like a toothbrush holder in the bathroom and a second suitcase rack in the room. If they care enough to pay attention to the small things, then they pay attention to the big things.

    4
    « Rooms »

Nice location, very quite. The staff goes out of there way to be helpful .Restaurant & bar was better than most. Up stair room was nice with a balcony. Rooms could of been a little large. Lots of T.V. channels to pick from -- For the price, in the Santa Barbara fair price.

    4
« Nice place, but older »

We decided to stay here for one night on our way to San Diego. Did a lot of research and it came up pretty good. As mentioned in a lot of reviews it is an older motel but has been remodeled in some areas. The bathroom is fairly new, the room was spacious, the bed comfortable, wifi is good, and free. Our only downer is the air conditioning, it has not been upgraded and is rather noisy, so if that will bother you, look elseware. The restaurant associated with the motel is nice, nothing special but convenient for breakfast lunch and dinner. The motel is not walking distance from the State Street shops and restaurants.

    4
    « A very pleasant stay »

Stayed here for one night and realized what a gem we had found. The rooms were clean and spacious. Staff were all very courteous and extremely helpful. We had an excellent breakfast in the morning and location wise very central to all activities.

    « Broken AC »

I'm giving this place 1 star for not anticipating possible issues, such as broken AC, that may happen during the stay of their guests. The room that they gave us has a broken AC. The maintenance crew were very nice and they tried to fix it but unfortunately the unit needs to be replaced and there were no other units available. They offered another room but it's a smoking room. So we're left with two options, stay in a stuffy room or inhale the cigarette smell all night. We chose to stay in a room with a broken AC. The front desk offered a fan and suggested that we open our window. The reason why we stayed in a hotel instead of our friend's house down the street is to be comfortable and to enjoy the amenities of the hotel. Our stay was not comfortable at all and suggesting to open our window just made the situation even worst. This ruined my boyfriend's birthday weekend.

« Loved it. Great service and location. Fabulous restaurant. Yes, fabulous. Best eggs benedict ever. Not kidding. »

We travel to Santa Barbara several times a year to see family. This place was fabulous. Reasonable for Santa Barbara, great service, lovely place close to State St. and everything, and the little restaurant was FABULOUS. Darned if I didn't have the best eggs benedict ever. Not kidding. Ever. With arugala. And the nicest part was it was included with the hotel.

    « Value »

My husband and i have recently begun using Sansum Santa Barbara Clinic as our primary health care facility. AMAZING, but that's another story. Over the past two years we have stayed in lovely hotels and B and B's during the visits to the clinic that required overnight stays. For the first time i stayed at the Best Western Plus Encina Lodge and Suites and was very pleasantly surprised at the comfort, of this hotel. It is well worth the visit. I will be using this hotel again and have decided to make it my home away from home for my Santa Barbara visits. Great place.

« Great facility with many exceptional room options »

We were impressed with the outstanding service, room quality and restaurant food. The single room was large, comfortable, new furnishings and noted attention to finer details. Very well maintained, good location and good value. Our friends shared a 2-bedroom suite with kitchen which made a great gathering spot on site. Make your reservation directly with the lodge for best of everything.

« great spot in Santa Barbara »

Encina Lodge is conveniently located and a reasonably priced property in Santa Barbara which is very expensive. A group of us were doing Santa Barbara Half Marathon and stayed here. Rooms were clean, quiet and comfortable. Would stay here again.

« Charming option in Santa Barbara »

This surprising little hotel has a totally delightful staff and an equally delightful restaurant on the property. The rooms were very comfortable, views lovely, and the people could not have been nicer. They also cater to those who need an extended stay for medical treatment or surgery and would definitely be a nice option for that.

    « Another great stay »

We just got back from the Best Western Plus Encina Lodge & Suites The rooms were neat & clean and all of the staff was, as always wonderful. They always go out of their way to make sure our stay is convenient and pleasant. It is also so nice to see how nicely the property (inside and out) is maintained.

    « Great place »

This was the best hotel we stayed in out of the 8 on our trip. On arrival my partner commented another crummy motel, how wrong she was. The staff were great, the rooms fantastic, nice little touches like sweets and fruit in room, all very clean and pity only there one night. Hotel has all the facilities you need, including a great resturant where the staff could not do enough for you. We ended our evening sipping cocktails around the pool, a novelty for us brits not used to warm evenings and got a few stares lol. If only one downside, it's several miles to downtown so need a car. Would recomend.

« Great motel and great location »

We were very pleased with our visit to Santa Barbara and our stay at this motel. It was clean and convenient and had no motel complaints. There is a great restaurant just next door called the Live Oak that is a bit pricey but it is Santa Barbara after all so was to be expected. We only had breakfast there and for me, it was just okay but does offer very healthy options and their service is superb.

    « An exceptional stay! »

The hotel was lovely and the customer service was outstanding. Akio (the assistant mgr), Luis, and Saul made our stay very comfortable and enjoyable. We also briefly met Carol, the manager, and can see that her and Akio's great customer service sets the tone for all of the other amazing staff we encountered. We were always met with a warm smile and an inquiry of how they could be of service. Our week-long stay in Santa Barbara was primarily for medical treatment at the Sansum Clinic. The hotel discounted our room rate because of this and also provided complementary shuttle service to and from our appointments at the various Sansum Clinic locations. Our shuttle drivers, Luis and Saul had other responsibilities at the hotel (they were not just drivers), but always picked us in a timely manner and appeared happy to do so. We always tipped our driver even though it was not expected, because they truly earned it. We were so impressed with them and this shuttle service. The hotel and room were nice, clean, spacious, and quiet. The hotel is in a great location. We highly recommend this Best Western!

    « Comfortable and clean. »

Very nice older hotel. Room was very clean. Good lighting in the bathroom and good counter space. Full length mirrors were a plus. Separate toilet/shower with a door which is always good for more than one in the room. More than one suitcase rack which is also nice. Good location to the hospital and surgery center. The extra little amenities in the room were a pleasant surprise. There is also a restaurant on the premises which looked good although we were downtown in the evening so did not dine there. Coffee and tea available all day in the lobby. Overall this hotel was better than expected.

    5
« Great cost and location »

I have stayed at the Best Western Encina hotel many times, and always know that the beds with be comfortable, room is clean, and hotel staff is accommodating. « pleasant stay »

With my daughter at UCSB it seems I have tried everything from VRBO to El Capitan tents in the Santa Barbara area! This hotel was a pleasant surprise even though it is tucked away in a residential area a few miles from the beach. I love when hotels provide the little extras when you get to your room. My room had been upgraded to include a little kitchenette but the bonus was the apples, cookies and water provided at no charge. The room was spacious and the bathroom small but nicely arranged. My daughters especially appreciated the big screen TV! Well done Encina Lodge. Will definitely return my next journey to the area.

« Best Western Plus in Santa Barbara. CA »

Excellent hotel. We needed to be close to the hospital and it was only a couple blocks away. We had no trouble upgrading from a room to a townhouse to accommodate my daughter's family. Restaurant was undergoing renovations and was closed but the staff set up a wonderful complimentary breakfast buffet on the patio area. Daily cleaning staff was efficient and friendly.

« Ok no more no less »

A decent hotel for our short stop in Santa Barbara ? the room was quite small which made unpacking two suitcases a bit of challenge but the bed was comfy and the room clean. There was a really good shower which is always a good bonus. The hotel is a bit out of the way (30-35 min walk to downtown Santa Barbara). However you could drive there and back if you wanted. The onsite restaurant was nice and decently priced.

    « Very Good Hotel »

Stayed for just one night. Very clean and well equipped rooms. Lovely grounds (nice flowers growing) and a good pool. There is a good restaurant on site which does breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had lunch and it was very reasonably priced. Not really walking distance to the beach but there is a trolley which goes there.
