« No shuttle for carnival customers! »

I booked this hotel as noted they offered a shuttle service to the cruise terminal, but not for carnival cruises! The hotel is very old and a little tired looking, bed comfortable but awful lumpy pillows, internet free and fast, breakfast was a buffet and quite frankly awful, black bananas, dried up burgers , bacon and dry scrambled eggs , there was fresh bread and a waffle machine, but no English breakfast tea. The taxi from the airport cost us $55.

    « Awesome staff...great stay »

Perfect location pre cruise. Amazing staff, Andy and Emmelin greeted us warmly upon arrival. We arrived late morning for a afternoon checkin. These ladies got us into our room hours early, and ensured that everything was perfect. They suggested eating places in the area, and explained all about the hotel offerings. The free pier shuttle, and breakfast was a huge bonus. There is a Liquor store, pharmacy, fast food, all within easy walking distance. The pool & hot tub area have nice loungers and umbrella. Very clean hotel and pool area. The 24 hr coffee set up in the lobby was always fully stocked and tidy. The antiques scattered throughout the hotel made it feel more homey. Will def stay here again...Thanks

« Very nice overnight stay »

A real good experience for our overnight stay for our group of 2 adults and 2 kids under 10. The beds were comfortable and roomy. We arrived early and the hotel staff kindly checked us in into a room that was ready and in the quiet side of the hotel away from the street traffic. Great location as it was close to hubby's work and to beautiful ocean views and parks for me and the kids.

    « An Adequate Option »

Good hotel close to the cruise ships with large rooms and a nice breakfast. The shuttle experience TO our cruise went well but our RETURN shuttle trip was awful. We had to wait one hour after we got off the ship for the shuttle to pick us up.

« Beautiful rooms, walk around balcony »

What a gorgeous Hotel - beautiful updated rooms and interior, very friendly staff and great location close to the Pier for Cruise Ship. Great restaurants nearby - overall experience and satisfaction is above average.

    « Truly the best »

Truly the best budgeting hotel to stay at in LA with clean spacious rooms, free parking and most importantly free complimentary breakfast. The location is an hour away from everywhere depending on the traffic. Great staff.

    « Happy Aussie traveler »

Always enjoy my stay at this hotel and very handy to public transport. Room way clean and everything worked as required. Have always used this hotel when required and will always do so when next in San Pedro wishing to catch a cruise ship.

    « San Pedro »

Loved this hotel! Staff were extremely helpful although hopefully the restaurant will be open and available for lunch and dinner and not just breakfast. Easy to get around, parking was easy. Lots of options for eating out. Would definitely stay again.

    « Interesting configuration »

We caught the Super Shuttle from LAX to this hotel. Very weird configuration, but the room was very comfortable and quiet. Breakfast area was pretty jam packed, as most people were heading to the cruise ship terminal like us. The front desk staff (Nora and Kevin) were outstanding with their help and FRIENDLINESS! There was a shuttle offered to the terminal but it was full. A quick taxi ride was cheaper.

    5
« Great pre cruise stay »

I chose this hotel because they offered free internet and a free shuttle to the cruise ship. Very nice hotel. Great front desk employee named Kevin who was very helpful holding my luggage until my room was available. Would definitely recommend this hotel. They also offered free breakfast. Would stay here again pre-cruise.

« San Pedro art show »

We were put up in room 203 in a back building. Drapes do not close over sheer curtains so outside lights show all night. Floor shakes when someone walks around. Room next to us loud from midnight thru 2:30 am and smoking in the enclosed hallway which penetrated our room. Had to call front desk twice to get some resolution. In morning cup with butts still outside our door. At breakfast no regular tea only green tea and soda machines were nearly empty. With bar and restaurant closed appeared to me might be on a strict budget. As a rewards member I don't feel this represents what I should expect from a PLUS hotel.

    4
« Good Hotel for Los Angeles Cruise Port »

This hotel provided a lovely, spacious room with good amenities including wifi and a free shuttle to the cruise port. The breakfast was not particularly great but that is standard for US hotels. Staff were very courteous, helpful and friendly. We took a bus trip into Downtown LA and upon our return were advised by 2 different people on the bus, not to go out in the area at night time. The hotel restaurant was not operating while we were there so it was a problem obtaining meals for 3 nights. We resorted to taxis to and from local restaurants which worked out quite well.

    2
« Bar & restaurant closed, sketchy area, poor taxi service »

We found out upon our arrival that the hotel bar and restaurant were closed, leaving us stranded in a very sketchy part of town. It took over 30 minutes to get a taxi to take us to dinner. The sofa bed was very uncomfortable. The staff seemed ill-informed and relatively unconcerned about the lack of a restaurant. It would have been nice is the hotel had sent us an email informing us of the closure, since there would have been plenty of time to do so. This is our 2nd bad experience in a row with Best Western "Plus", so we're very unlikely to ever use this brand again in the future.

    4
« Book the shuttle early »

If you want the shuttle to the port book it as soon as you can as key places are limited. We like the large room when you have large cases. There is free coffee if you arrive early or leave late. Walking choices for dinner are limited. But as we were going to be doing plenty of eating on the ship, we bought some beers and sandwiches etc from nearby stores.

    4
    « Precruise »

Stayed before cruising. Good place to get ready for the cruise. We like to spend the night rather than fly that day and worry about missing the ship. Very helpful. There is a shuttle to pick you up at the airport. My friend has mobility issues so the driver helped her into the front seat and was there to steady her as we got out. We will stay there again before cruising.

    3
« Best Cruise Ship pre-embark. But get a taxi... »

Hotel was great and they offer decent breakfast. Neighborhood is sketchy. Best thing is they offer a cheaper parking option for Princess cruises instead of using the Ports high priced parking. They also offer a shuttle... but that was a debacle. Too many people, one van, poor management of the shuttle. Just get a cab and spend a few bucks and save yourself the trouble. Otherwise the stay was nice and the parking deal was great.

« Great pre cruise hotel stay »

Had a great stay here at the best Western plus hotel in San Pedro the night before we left on a cruise. I found our room spacious, the bed very comfortable & superb customer service from the front desk when we checked in. Plus as a benefit, the free shuttle service over to the crew ships. The breakfast was great as well. I highly recommend this hotel if your are in the area staying. And it is your BEST CHOICE for a hotel if you are going out on a cruise.

    « Ship Ahoy »

Great hotel to stay before boarding cruise ship in San Pedro. Close to places to eat, free breakfast, wifi and shuttle to and from Airport. You can leave you car in covered parking while you cruise. Walking distance to several fast food places and you can visit Ports o call or the IOWA museum.

    4
    « Unexpected surprise »

We chose this hotel because it was close to the cruise port and reasonable priced. Our room was spacious, and very clean. It is on a busy street and a little loud but we were on the back side and had no issues. Dong he afraid to stay here.

    « I am so glad I didn't use something like Priceline.com. »

When I asked for a reservation, the manager at the front desk did everything she could to get me a nice room with a view. When I arrived, I needed some help with my bags and there was someone there within 5 minutes to assist me. My room was clean and comfortable. San Pedro has many nice places to eat and sights to see. I really enjoyed my stay.

« Above and Beyond Customer Service »

I planned a family vacation and it was very spur of the moment. I saw this BWP listing on Trip Advisor. I am always looking for best reviews and cleanliness in a hotel. When we arrived to the Hotel, I stayed in room 407. It was perfect for my kids and I and they loved the pool. I had to contact the staff at front desk because I realized my room didn't have a microwave. I spoke with Gabby and she instantly took care of the problem. I got back to the room and the kids dropped the toilet paper in the toilet so I called the front desk and Gabby answered yet again and gave me another roll. I'd like to thank the rest of the staff at this hotel for making our stay very pleasant with our family. We had a blast and will continue to choose this hotel in the future.

    4
    « Weekend getaway »

I stayed here with my boyfriend for a friends wedding a few weeks ago and I cannot tell you enough how great the staff was. Gabby and Nora were top-notch and very friendly/helpful. I would stay here again, most definitely. It was a great experience and they made it very delightful. Thanks Best Western Plus, Gabby and Nora for making our little "getaway" weekend that much more awesome. You rock!

    3
    « Bad Service »

We arrived at 2 and we had to wait over 2 hours for our room. There were about 6 other couples who also had to wait. The rooms are nice but again, there was a mixup. I had reserved this room months ago and when we were ready to sign our statement when we noticed that it was $60.00 more than it was supposed to be. I was told that they had sold out all of the rooms and I was given an upgrade. I showed them my statements and it was reduced. The front desk man, Kevin, did try to correct the problems. This hotel is nice inside but it is not in a very pleasant part of town. We ended up ordering some dinner since we did not want to wander out. We are here boarding a ship for a cruise so that was the purpose of choosing this hotel here. Our tv did it work but a repair man was sent and finally got it to work. If you are taking a cruise might want to consider a hotel a little farther from this area and arrange transportation to the ship.

« Don't give out your credit card in advance »

Learned an expensive and valuable lesson. Room reservation is non-cancellable, even several months in advance. Tried to cancel 3 months ago and was told I could not cancel. Ended up getting charged for a room we never used. In the future I will stick with Comfort Inn and Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express. Those hotels have never let me down.

    « Best Western »

Overall, I was very pleased with my stay at the Best Western. My Boyfriend and I went for a day and were happy with the service and location. The room was spacious, nice and clean. Breakfast was good :). I would definitely come back. I would also recommend it to anyone taking a mini vacation.

    4
« Great Stay near LA »

This was my first trip to LA and it was awesome. I always stay at Best Western hotels and this one was very unique. I was very impressed with the room, breakfast and checkout. The staff was friendly and was very cooperative. I would stay there any time I come to that area.

    3
    « Clean »

Nice hotel but not in the nicest area. I would stay here again if I wasn't trying to spend a whole bunch of money but it's definitely out of the way for anything you'll be doing in California on a "vacation." Rooms were super nice and clean. No major issues.

    5
    « Excellent »

Everything regarding this hotel was fantastic.. I was overly surprised with the high level of quality with the room decor and linens. Comparable to hotels in the $500 per night range. I would absolutely come here again!

    5
« Great place to stop before a cruise! »

We were on a girl trip for a 4 day cruise and stopped at this Best Western the night before we left. It was very nice! The rooms were super clean, especially the bathroom which is typically a hot button for me. The beds were quite comfortable and we appreciated the extra security of needing a key card to take the elevator to our floor. Breakfast was ok, not exceptional but certainly sufficient. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a convenient and clean stop in the San Pedro area.

    5
    « Great Park & Cruise »

This is one of the nicest Best Westerns we've stayed at. We didn't really know what to expect, but we booked because they have a great Park & Sail rate for our cruise. We were pleasantly surprised! Front Desk service is friendly and very accommodating. The rooms are as picture. Large, very clean and nicely furnished. There is a large flat screen tv and small WORKING refrigerator. The breakfast area gives you the feeling you're dining in a nice restaurant. The complimentary breakfast will really surprise you. They have cold cereals, hot oatmeal with all the extras. Fresh waffles, excellent bacon, scramble eggs (the real thing), sausages, English muffins, bread for toast, fresh fruits, yogurts and juices. Hot coffee, tea, milk and more! There is a Rite Aid Pharmacy and Starbucks within 3 blocks. We definitely recommend this Best Western. .

« Nice place to stay in San Pedro »

We have stayed here a couple of times. The location is convenient to get to downtown and to Long Beach. The amenities are great - free breakfast, pool and hot tub, free parking. It's not a huge complex so it has a nice, comfortable feel. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that it can be noisy at night due to traffic.

    4
« Great Hotel 20 miles from downtown »

When I travel with my wife, I let her decide if the hotel is good. Great Breakfast. Beds comfy. Nice Touches in hall. Off street parking. If you're taking a cruise or need to be in the bottom of L.A. it is a good option

« Number 1 Hotel in San Pedro »

So far my stay here has been amazing the staff is wonderful always helpful and ready to assist you with any difficulties you're having. As for the food it's to die for! The breakfast is 5 stars in my eyes. I have stuffed myself almost every morning I went downstairs & they have a gym if you tend to burn some calories after that wonderful meal. Thanks again Staff of Best western you guys are wonderful. Maids 5/5 Front desk 5/5 Management 5/5 Security 5/5 Your Friend Peter J Malandrinos

« Best Western San Pedro »

This was a very nice hotel, very clean high end finishes and wonderful staff. I would likely stay here again the only thing I was a little put off about was how high their damages hold is. At $250 it is one of the highest I have experienced in the area, but if you check out with the front desk when you leave it is put back the same (business) day.

    3
« Good price but room was too smokey and noisy location »

I suffer from allergies and the room smelled like smoke. Called the front desk and they offered a can of Lysol. I sprayed but it didn't help. The hotel is next to a busy street and is noisy. The 2 queen beds were very comfortable. The breakfast compares to the breakfast at the Holiday Inn Express, but the quality of the food is inferior. Lastly, towels are small and old.

    5
« Best Western San Pedro »

We stayed here 2 nights. Rooms were nice. All staff at the front desk were extremely nice and exceptionally helpful. They even arranged a special shuttle just for us. Would definitely recommend if visiting nearby.

    5
    « Great location! »

Great location! Close to where we were going in July, as well as gas stations, restaurants, and a grocery store! Nice and very friendly staff! The room was clean, beds comfortable, and we had no issues at all. Highly recommend it!

    5
    « 4 night stay »

The front desk staff were very pleasant and accommodating. The hotel rooms were nice. Very comfortable beds. The location is on a busy road, but the traffic noise quiets down during the night and did not affect my ability to sleep.

    5
    « Excellent Stay »

Found this place online for a great price after much searching online. Within an hour of most beaches and 2 hours of San Diego. Hotel was great from both a design and customer service perspective. Just good smooth stay!

« Ideal hotel for in transit passengers. »

A group of friends were intransit to Miami and we chose this hotel to overnight. We were pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness and comfortable rooms. They were spacious so you did not feel cramped. The staff was helpful, gracious and very friendly. They offer a free breakfast which is quite substantial. There is also a free shuttle to and from LAX.The location is not bad and there is a Roscoes across the road if you need lunch or dinner. I felt quite at home at this hotel and I definitely will recommend it to anyone..

« Very Clean and well maintained »

This hotel looks old from the outside but is very nice, clean, and well maintained o the inside. The Service was very good and we enjoyed the breakfast. Overall it was a very pleasant stay. I wish we had another day to spend San Pedro.

    4
    « Exceeded Expectations »

This Best Western location exceeded all my expectations from it's overall cleanliness to the complimentary breakfast selections such as eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. They're Fitness Center wasn't to shabby either. Great experience for about $125 a night and I'd recommend staying here if you're in LA.

    5
    « fresh & clean »

Came in late after a 24 hr fishing trip on a party boat, smelly and tired. My son, his friend and I arrived at the hotel to shower and pass out. Kevin and Hector took good care of us with a late night snack and an additional portable bed. The room was clean and updated. ...a welcome sight for the tired. In the morning we were again welcomed by the staff and a hot breakfast. All in all, a good stay.

    4
    « Beautiful Hotel »

The outside of the San Pedro Hotel is a beautiful design. We checked with Kevn and he was extremely helpful. The beds were very comfortable; the TV was a great size (40); the breakfast was appetizing and area was comfortable. The only minus to the hotel is the location -not many American type restaurants (Applebees; Chilis,etc...) and perhaps more security is needed in the garage area.

    5
« Fancy hotel, spacious rooms, reasonable price »

We were surprised at how fancy this hotel was. The room was very spacious and cozy. The price was reasonable for the area. Security and safety is top notch as you can only access the elevator to rooms with your key card. The fitness room was great and the pool/spa was located in a courtyard that made it very serene. Located within half a mile of a grocery store and many fast food restaurants. Internet was good too as my 3 teens didn't complain about it. The only downsides were the laundry room was below average as it took 2 dryers to dry a load and the breakfast was the least enjoyable on our stay (but at least they offer one!) Also we faced the street and the motorcycles that fly down it make a lot of noise--so get a room away from front. The hotel itself was very quiet. Very pleased with our stay and it was a favorite with our 3 teens.

    1
    « Not worth it! »

Upon just stepping in the elevator I could tell this hotel was sketchy. The desk person was friendly, so I'll give him that. The room however was dirty, the air conditioner didn't work, and when it decided to, it was extremely loud. The shower was gross, it was a handheld shower which the holder was broken, so water sprayed everywhere. Not impressed at this hotel at all! For the price we paid I expected better. Completely disappointed. Will never come back nor recommend to anyone.

« Still a Sleeper Value and Getting Better Each Year. »

When I wrote my first review of this hotel I knew it would be read and then the hotel would simply be impossible to book in the future. I was right. But I decided to update my review. This is still the best value for the money in the area. The hotel has gotten even better with time. The owners have continued to improve the interiors, the customer service was excellent before; but it's outstanding now. The staff is wonderful, considerate and will accommodate your every need. There is wi-fi in each room, breakfast is still on the house and of fantastic quality and variety. There is fresh coffee with real cream and milk first thing in the am and popcorn for late-night munchies as well as excellent restaurants close-by that serve fresh fish, and a sampling of regional cuisines. Did I mention that there is now a fitness center for workouts? There is!

    « A FIXER UPPER HOTEL »

3 stars only: 1 star: For location and price : I was there for a business trip and the location was perfect for it. I was able to get to my destination in 15 minutes and plenty of places to eat. So that was great! 2 Star: Free WI FI and Breakfast. That was important as I had to work and having reliable internet was really good. The breakfast was simple, and nothing special, but not having to worry about driving someplace or anything, that was nice. 3 star: Having a fitness room and pool. While I was staying there, I had a day where I went to the gym and spend some time at the pool. Having these ammendites, was really great. I did not have to go the gym outside the hotel, and I could enjoy some pool time. The pool was really nice. I can not give the two other stars due to this:L 1. FIXER upper: The hotel in general feels like they are fixing everything with DUCK TAPE. I literally saw duck tape holding a chandelier in the lobby. Things are not kept up well at all. Its very old, and all details are no looking good. The chair at my desk in the hotel room broke a few times, The wheel in the front came off a few times. The lounge chair in my room had stains all over it. There was several spider webs on the lamps and walls. ewwww. Makes me wonder what else they dont clean. :( My sheets had holes in it. The keycard box on back of door FELL OFF!! what the heck? . The nicest place that was well kept was the pool area. Very nice, and clean. best part. 2. The staff and crew are very young people who have no drive and dont seem to care. Its a 9-5 job, and they dont care about it much. Its a job. and thats all. I was waiting for my room to be cleaned all day, and then its was 4pm, and still had not been cleaned. I called the front desk to ask when my room would be clean, and they said I dont know. They didnt even give the option of finding out for me, or anything, that was not cool. I asked for a bell hop cart when checking out, and they maybe I can bring one up for you. I waited 20 minutes and didnt show up. I had to take it all down by myself. So customer service, not great. 3. Not clean!!! : The breakfast area was not kept up at all. There wasnt someone there to keep up between that often. There were crumbs everywhere, wetness, MOLDED pastries, NO OJ left in orange juice tank, just dirty! I could not find a clean plate, they were left over plates left out where you got breakfast. EWWW. Dont expect much from this hotel. Its very basic. Very basic.

    4
« Friendly staff! Nice breakfast! »

Best western plus met our expectations except the very familiar but unpleasant hotel smell. It is kind of normal to have that carpet smell around US hotels but for the first night it was very uncomfortable for me. Other than that the hotel was nicely decorated, the staff and managers were very friendly. The breakfast was ok, I would consider a lot better than many complimentary breakfasts.

    3
    « NEEDS IMPROVEMENT »

I stayed here 6 nights. OK for one night but not an extended stay. The room I was in needed upgrading. No microwave. Asked for wake up calls for 6 mornings-only got 4 and the telephone was on the desk-not on the stand next to bed. Hardware in bathroom was very hard to move into shower position-whole shower section needs to be revamped. Had backup in bathtub but got compensated. Needed change of $10 bill for vending machine but they don't have cash at front desk; wanted to buy a stamp but they didn't have any. Breakfast was adequate but were always late with something. I waited for 12 minutes before waffle batter was put in machine. Juice was late another day. Water available but served room temperature -but no ice. Nothing worse than tepid water. Front desk staff were perfect. I asked for a particular room and I go it.Two stars is a generous rating-no where near three stars as stated on some sites.

« Beautiful and Well Staffed »

Easy and smooth stay at this beautiful hotel. Great staff and super clean. When we arrived a little bit early, easy fix; when we needed help with an extra bed, no worries. They were relaxed and ready to help.

    4
    « Nice »

Nice, clean, affordable. Staff was extremely friendly at check in. Rooms were larger and more modern than i expected. Parking was very limited but the night crew went out of their way to help us find a place for the car. If I have to return to the area I would definitely stay there again.

    « Avoid room 322 »

We stayed in this hotel July 2016 for 10 days , staff were friendly and helpful facilities were adequate rooms where very clean and tidy and as was the area once you got onto the hotel grounds ! Breakfast was good if you could catch the scrambled eggs at the right time before it went hard as it is a buffet .We did have one problem we had a lovely room on the first floor at the back so it was quite quiet but three days into our stay we were told there was a maintenance issue with the room ? we were then moved to 322 very noisy room beside the swimming pool - we did complain but nothing was done about it. Because of the room change we did get a free night but I would've rather had our old room.

    5
« King Suite was so cool, and old school »

Booked this location as was close to the USS Iowa. The property, staff, room, and breakfast all top notch. Really enjoyed our stay. Had the King Suite and were blown away. Great bed. Clean room and very well appointed with amenities. Totally old school, elegant design with tall ceilings, windows, and doors. Super friendly staff had all the answers. Plenty of food options with many restaurants within walking distance. Would probably stay again although the traffic noise went on most of the night.

    5
    « Amazing »

Great place Had the king suite. Really nice and elegant. Nice high ceilings and crown moldings. Breakfast was good. Buffet style. If definitely come back. The only negative was the traffic around the hotel. Vary busy. The staff was very helpful. Pool and spa were great. I enjoy the out door type pools.

    « They Solve Problems »

Management changed since we booked yet they made right on our expectations. We booked the cruise package because of the shuttle drop-off and pick-up and covered parking for our car at the hotel in addition to breakfast. Turned out we needed to leave before breakfast and the shuttle drop-off. The shuttle doesn't run the day we returned. They made us go bag breakfasts, gave us a card for a local taxi service, and adjusted the bill without a fuss. Eric and Nick and other staff took care of us.

« Cozy little hotel in the wrong neighborhood »

Good quality at good value hotel, but in a rough neighborhood. I looked forward to breakfast with the family at 9 am, but it took the a long time to bring out maple syrup and no breakfast sausage. Tired of waiting for food and left by 9:30 am.

« Avoid this Best Wertern but others are Great »

It was a very expensive stay in a very noisy area. The outside noise was so bad you couldn't sleep at all. The elevator system locked you in (not just us, everyone else had the same issue)and even ringing the bell didn't help. I had to use my cell phone to have someone tell us how to reset the elevator. We were locked in for more than 10 minutes. the breakfast was not that great either but not bad. It is a very scary neighborhood. Best Western should sell this unit. I had two rooms costing me a total of $310.00 for one nights stay. I could have stayed at several other hotels for much less but I have been impressed with Best Western and wanted to use them rather than Marriott. I have enjoyed all the other Best Westerns I have stayed at but this one was a TOTAL looser!! Sorry this sounds so negative.

We've stayed here several times and have always been extremely satisfied with the personnel, service and facility. In fact, we have written several excellent reviews on TripAdvisor in the past. However, we will not be returning because their prices have gone through the roof.

« Great location, free cruise port shuttle, nice pool »

The hotel was adequate for what we needed. They don't tell you the A/C is operated by remote control, so just know that before you go! Shuttle to Long Beach terminal for Carnival Cruise was complimentary, and a great amenity. Neighborhood is kinda shady, but there are plenty of restaurants, a Rite Aid, a GREAT breakfast place and a Starbucks all within walking distance. The restaurant and bar were both closed due to some kind of change in management happening, and that was not made known to us before our arrival, but they still had the free breakfast. Check in was friendly and room was adequately sized.

    « Excellent Value »

The hotel is located on Gaffey Street, a major north-south route. It is decorated in an older style, but nicely done. There is ample parking. There is a breakfast buffet included with the room. My room had a high ceiling which gave it a spacious feeling. There is not much of interest in the immediate area, but farther south is an aquarium and a park overlooking the ocean. Just a little south and east is the harbor and Ports of Call, which has restaurants. The Historic San Pedro downtown area has a few old buildings, but is not very interesting. (There is a the First Thursday Art Walk, which might make it more lively.) Comparing this hotel with others like it, the rate I paid here made it a very good value.

    « Very neat hotel »

Stayed for two nights at the start of our US holiday, the staff were very helpful and could not do enough to help. Our room was very clean and well maintained, the breakfast had good choices which were quite tasty. The area of San Pedro is an interesting place, lots of culture and interesting people. The staff at the hotel recommended an excellent Italian restaurant nearby called earlier Raffaello Ristorante-great advice. I would happily stay again at this hotel and would recommend it to others.

    « One Night »

Perfect place to stay before leaving for Catalina. Agree with reviewer this is not where I would stay for a southern California vacation just because of the neighborhood. Loved the hotel. Large, comfortable room and good breakfast. I do tons of research before planning a trip and the hotel was what I expected. Only disappointment was going down to what we thought was a bar to watch Warriors game to find the bar wasn't open (maybe it is for private parties) Gave great recommendation for sports bar to watch game.

« Adequate hotel, nothing special »

We stayed two nights. It was clean and had the basics but not somewhere I would go for a vacation, or walk around outside at night. Well located for lacrosse or soccer tournaments. Breakfast was borderline gross, with burnt eggs, green sausage, not a lot of choices. If you can manage with just a sweet roll or a waffle, it is fine, but if you want eggs or more, walk to the McD's. Beds were comfortable and rooms clean.

« We had a two day/one night stopever while waiting for our Cruise which left nearby »

We really liked this hotel. While it was not flashy it was "olde worldly" and had a charm of its own that we enjoyed. It had plenty of room to spread out and relax. The accommodation exceeded our expectations. The room was a really good size and it was very clean. The amenities were everything we needed including the free WiFi and the breakfast which we greatly enjoyed. The bed was very comfortable and the area at night was subdued so sleeping was no problem. We also appreciated the free shuttle to the Port on Day 2. Mostly though we found the staff friendly, accommodating and super helpful. We would highly recommend it and will stay there again on any future visits from Australia.

« Beautiful hotel at an affordable price »

Traveling on a budget from Ohio to California and back! Room was very affordable. Front desk was polite and gave us all the info we needed to get settled in for the night. Clean, large room. Bathroom very nice. Breakfast and parking free. Coffee always available in lobby or you can make it in your room. Beds were comfortable. Highly recommended!

    « Very Nice Hotel »

Stayed for one night. Wanted to stay another, but they were sold out of double queen rooms. Front desk staff very friendly. Room was very clean and nicely decorated. Didn't have a problem finding a parking spot. Breakfast was good.

    « San Pedro »

The check-in process went very smoothly other than having to step over the vacuum cord to get to the desk (we arrived early afternoon and did not see it since). The staff was very friendly, helkpful and courteous. We were there with two other couples for a total of 3 rooms and had no problems with any of them. The hotel is centrally located and easy to find. I will stay here again when I am back in the area.

« Our stay in San Pedro »

This is an older hotel. It looks lovely on the outside and could use some updating on the inside. Under new management, so would be interesting to see what they do with it. Has a bar and a restaurant that are not open. Not many decent eating establishments within walking distance. Room was ok, but noticed the bottom fitted sheet did not fit. It was stretched to the limit and didn't even cover the corners of the bed. Noticed a stain on the bottom sheet, so wonder if it couldn't be washed out or sheet was not changed after previous user. Yuk!!!! Thought it was over priced at $160. Should be priced maybe around $100.

« very clean with great staff members »

The rooms are huge. The breakfast has quite a variety for Best Western. This is a very clean hotel with great staff members. I don't remember staff member names but all of them were great; even their shuttle driver. Free shuttles to cruise ports also makes this hotel desirable. Free wifi is also good.

    « What a treat!!! »

My wife and I were meeting some friends from China. We flew to LA from Dallas and wanted a hotel near the one their agency booked. I read many reviews and this hotel looked better than the other options. Most of the complaints were that people didn't like San Pedro. Well, don't go there if you don't like it but don't blame it on the hotel. We pulled into the hotel parking which was covered and felt safe. When we got to the lobby, the clerk was patiently explaining the hotel to a prospective guest on the phone. Our turn resulted in a quick and painless check-in. The first thing we noticed was all of the staff were genuinely helpful and friendly. Even the guy painting the walls. The hotel is old but is being remodeled. The rooms were large, clean, and well supplied. Breakfast was a buffet style with many choices. I wanted bacon, but they had sausage. Oh well. For getting around San Pedro, the hotel is centrally located. The traffic is typical LA style. Lots of cars going nowhere. But the busy hours are shorter in this remote part of LA. Oh, the room air conditioner was very effective. There was just no control to make my wife and I to agree where to set it. We felt very safe here and in the area. You do need to use your room card to access the elevators floors with guest rooms. We did not use the exercise room, swimming pool, or business office. But it was comforting to know what was available. The free wift worked fine for 3 days. On the 4th day, I had to reconnect frequently, like every few minutes. The desk clerk reset the router, but I had no better luck. If I had to go to San Pedro again (it is soooo far from my other friends in LA), I would stay here without giving it a second thought.

    « Short visit »

Nice and comfortable hotel near Los Angeles airport. The location is good because the airport is more or less located centrally. The staff and room service is good. The rooms are big and well maintained. The breakfast is nice and has variety. The best thing about the hotel is the free airport/ metro shuttle available throughout the day. Once you reach the metro, traveling to any place becomes very easy and comfortable. Many eating joints nearby. Highly recommended

    « Clean and comfortable »

Stayed for three nights in May. Room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The staff was friendly and accommodating. There is a 7-11, El Pollo Loco, McDonalds and Starbucks nearby. I did not take advantage of the free breakfast, so I cannot comment other than to say it seemed VERY popular with the other guests. (I took one look at the crowd and opted for McDonalds). The location seems like it would be very convenient to the cruise terminal. Very blue collar neighborhood, not sure I'd walk around after dark, but I never felt unsafe.

    « Don't let the facade put you off. It's a gem! »

Took the super shuttle from LAX and 30 mins later we were outside a non descript building in a not particularly salubrious part of town. The lobby is on the second floor and is magnificently restored Spanish décor. Mirrors, chrome a comfortable lobby and eating area is immaculately maintained. We were only staying overnight on our way to a cruise and scored a room on the top (4th) floor. The high ceilinged & beautifully carpet corridors were adorned with 9 foot black doors which only added to the richness of the décor. The hotel has a small gym and pool and a shuttle to the port of Los Angeles. Complimentary breakfast is hot and wholesome. This is a delightful hotel and I would certainly stay here again.

    « Pre-Cruise rest »

This was the first time I have stayed in the San Pedro area in preparation for a cruise. I used the 'park-n-cruise' package and it worked out great. Planned far enough ahead and got a great rate for the room and 7-days of parking. The staff were all great, the room great (quiet and easy to sleep), the breakfast light and the shuttle to the cruise terminal was good. My daughter and sister had accompanied me and in the process of packing up for the shuttle to the ship my daughter later realized that she had left her exercise roller (for her shoulder) behind. We had hoped that, upon our return, the roller would still be there so she would not have the expense of purchasing a new one. GUESS WHAT??? - it was - when they cleaned our room they put the roller aside and she was able to pick it up when we got back. ALL the staff were very helpful and professional. Good place to stay

    « Pleasant Stay »

My parents stayed here for its location close to their Norwegian Cruise. Everything would have been really good with an exception of the bar and restaurant being closed. I had issues with the hotel when I tried calling the hotel to talk with my parents to see how things were going. I called the hotel got a recorded message to either enter the room number or press 0 for operator since I didn't have their room number I pressed 0 NO ONE ANSWERED THE PHONE I tried 5-6 times then just gave up trying I wouldn't recommend this hotel If I had an emergency and couldn't get in touch with loved ones I would be really upset

    « Perfect Place Before a Cruise »

My husband and I who are both senior citizens stayed here the night before we left for a cruise to HI. We were very pleased with our choice. The hotel is very grand; both interior and exterior. It does not look like the typical chain hotel. The breakfast offered was very substantial. We reserved the room package that included parking for the length of the cruise and free shuttle service to and from the cruise port. This was all very convenient and ran smoothly. We had arrived early for our stay, but the attendant at the front desk was so helpful and found a room for us. We felt very welcomed here. When we came back from the cruise they offered us water and use of the restrooms. The hotel is at a busy intersection and there is street noise if you have a front room like we did. However, we were going on a relaxing cruise the next day so we weren't bothered if we didn't sleep well. We had read reviews that the area around the hotel is not safe at night. We had no intentions of going out anywhere at night so this did not concern us. There is a 7-11 nearby for snacks, etc. and a busy gas station across the street. We did walk around the hotel block the morning of the cruise and felt safe. There was a homeless person sleeping on the sidewalk, but we just kept to our own business. We would definitely stay here again!

« Very pleasant, good location, good staff »

A smallish hotel by American standards which was a pleasure to stay in for two nights pre-cruise. Arriving off a trans Atlantic flight we were greeted by a very pleasant lady receptionist our room was ready, nicely appointed, spacious and a comfortable bed. The self service breakfast (included) was nice. The hotel is within walking distance of downtown and after our stay there was a complimentary shuttle to the cruise terminal taking less than ten minutes.

    « Good Hotel »

This could be a great hotel if they get their Restaurant and Bar open up. Not much in the San Pedro area to eat, but very close to the Cruise Ship port. They do offer a free breakfast which is good and the staff work hard and the room is clean and comfortable. The hotel looks like an old mansion and is extremly clean. They offer free wifi, but not a great connection. There are a few places to eat and a Seven Eleven store near by. There is a CVS in walking distance. There is a pool, and laundry machines ....$$

    « Cruise and park »

We selected this hotel because of its location near the port and reasonable 7 day parking during the cruise. We arrived and were very suprised at the quality of this hotel and the great staff starting at checkin with Nora. The rooms were very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Wonderful stay and we would use this hotel again.

« Needs improvements on safety & security »

I arrived at midnight from driving near bay area. We were scheduled to depart out of Long Beach in the morning. There were no parking spots when we arrived. They told me to park up against the building near elevators. Front staff were not nice and had a bad attitude when I asked where I could park. Our room was a bit antiquated but clean. What concerned me was the shower cap/plastic over the smoke detectors in the high ceiling room. In addition the added dead bolt lock was coming off the hinges. Security & Safety get a zero from me. Room was clean and the added sofa bed in the room was great. Breakfast in the morning was basic but, hot. Waffles, eggs, sausage were good. I explained to clerk upon check out and showed him photos of safety and security problems he just said he would handle it. Not much of an apology or anything else they could do. I told him I take my family's safety seriously and he should too.

« a bit tired but a helpful staff and great location. »

Hotel is a bit older, if this bothers you this might not be your cup of tea. However, they have free wifi, a business center, a helpful staff and a free shuttle that comes in handy if you're heading for the cruise terminal which is directly down the hill.

    « Needs work »

First time stay here and I had go around the block just to find parking because there is not even close to enough spots. Finally check in and they bump me up to an executive suite which is nice and a large room with a fireplace which didn't work. Thought it might be decorative. TV reception was poor and they need more channels. Called about it but nothing could be done apparently. They went cheap on the coffee maker. Bathroom was clean. Plenty of towels but some seemed worn. Bed was comfy but needed new fuller pillows. They have a pool and jacuzzi but I did not check them out. The elevators are old and it's annoying having to swipe your card to get to your floor..had to swipe many times before it worked sometimes. Heating and ac is done by a remote that doesn't always work. I expected more because it's a plus hotel but this one falls short especially with guest parking. Room was quiet, I got a good night sleep thankfully. Staff was very nice and professional.

    « Cruise Port Hotel »

Key points why we selected this hotel - 10 minute drive to port + parking provided while on cruise. Hotel has own shuttle Van. Holds up to 7 + can handle easy. 10-12 pieces of large luggage Hotel is with walking of 5 minutes to a McDonalds, KFC. There is a small market near by. Area not one I would walk around in at night Has approx. 6 handicap parking spaces. Parking can be limited if large amounts of customers are traveling at same time. I estimate 25 on first floor, 15 on 2nd floor. All in covered areas. Plus have another 15-20 spaces not covered The rooms are good size. Some would considered very large. Bathroom is in 2 parts. Sinks are are separate from tub/shower and toilet. Shower head easy fits a 6 footer. Towels could be a little thicker Morning breakfast was good. Eggs, pancakes, oatmeal, plus breads, rolls, juice/coffee/tea/orange juice. Fruit was also available. All self serve Suggest when checking in sign up for shuttle to port. Get room away from street Uber to port is $7-8 Port area has some good eating places. Some with good happy hour pricing

« San Pedro Best Western Plus »

Noisy hotel by main road. Staff was pleasant but not motivated to do more than satisfactory work. We chose this hotel for the service of leaving your car parked at the hotel, while taking a cruise. This hotel also provides shuttle service to and from the cruise port. This is an excellent service, it's very nice and the main reason we chose this hotel. It is within walking distance to several stores and nice restaurants.

    « Perfect after a cruise! »

This hotel was great- very close to the cruise terminal (a $7.50 cab ride), clean and the rooms are very spacious and comfortable. The breakfast is a great added bonus. The pool is a bit small, but still nice, and there's a hot tub as well. The hotel allowed us to check in 5 hours early after we requested this on our online booking (we arrived around 11 AM from the cruise ship) which was also hugely appreciated. I would definitely stay again!

« Not quite up to par »

We are best western frequent fliers so very loyal to this chain. Compared to others we have stayed with this hotel did not quite match up. The service was mixed, the pool and hot tub was not functioning and the breakfast just so so. The room, however, was very nice and quite large. We stayed here before a cruise and chose this location because of it's proximity to the pier. There is a free shuttle offered however it fills up quickly and you can't reserve until you arrive. Half our party had to take a cab. Consider staying over in Long Beach just a 10 minute cab ride to the pier and a really funky town.

« Watch Out For Lack Of Parking »

Great hotel and very very good staff. Way short of having enough parking for all the people staying at hotel. Very nice room with very clean bathroom. Everything up to date. No noise from street. Internet great in the room.

    « Good value »

Excellent stay at a great rate. Hotel has been renovated and our room was large, clean, quiet and well furnished. Service was excellent. Check in staff were efficient and friendly. Complimentary breakfast with many choices. Very impressed with the morning desk staff who brought and refilled my coffee without being asked. Complimentary shuttle provided to the cruise ship terminal. The only negative was that the pool and hot tub were being repaired and not available.

« Great place to stay »

We stayed here the night before our cruise out of Long Beach. NOTE: they only provide shuttle and parking service to cruisers going on Norwegian and Princess out of San Pedro. We were on Carnival out of Long Beach. Nevertheless, we were very happy with this hotel, the staff and overall comfort. I wasn't planning on leaving my car there anyway so the no parking for our cruise didn't affect me. The breakfast area was clean and the food was good. I did have a dirty utensil or two but just grabbed another one. I would stay here again if I visit the area.

Stayed overnight before our cruise. Very nice hotel, very friendly staff. breakfast was excellent, very nice room. « Good for pre-cruise stay »

We booked directly with Best Western and got a fair rate, but when we arrived, I showed my Best Western Rewards Card and as it happened I had enough points for a free stay. That was great! We arrived at LAX in the early evening and took Prime Time Shuttle to the hotel. We paid $17pp plus tax. For 2 of us, I am quite sure this was cheaper than a taxi because San Pedro is actually quite far from LAX. The upside is: it's really close to the Cruise Ship Terminal. We arrived at the hotel after 8 pm and all of the best free shuttle times to the Pier for the next day, were taken. We signed up for 2 single rides but in the end, we discovered it was so close to the Pier we just walked. It was a lovely Sunday morning and it took all of 15 min. The hotel is older, but clean and pleasant. Our room was in the annex. I don't think there was an elevator, but that was fine for us. Our room was a typical Best Western room, and it was clean and comfortable with a good bathroom and shower. The breakfast was quite good, it was very busy as 2 ships were departing that morning, but the staff worked very hard to keep the buffet replenished and the tables cleaned. The front desk staff were all very helpful and pleasant. The pool area is quite nice, it was a good place to sit and wait in the morning until we could check in at the Pier. Gaffey is fairly busy street, and the surrounding area is not a place I would wander around at night. We went to the market which is a couple of blocks away (Riteway I think?) and stocked up on water and wine for the cruise, popped into The Golden Arches for a take away dinner and just had our filet o fish and Coronas in our room. There really wasn't any place worth eating at within walking distance and I would not travel too far at night on foot . The walk to the Pier on Sunday morning felt safe enough, through a residential area. All in all, a good choice pre-cruise.

    « Perfect for Pre-cruise Stay »

We stayed at this hotel with another couple for one night prior to taking a cruise. Check-in was quick, and the room was spacious and clean. The location was perfect for our purposes, and there are several restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. As we could not board the ship until 1:30 on Saturday, the hotel was accommodating with a late check-out. Following the sufficient buffet breakfast, we enjoyed a leisurely walk to old San Pedro and to see the USS Iowa. The free shuttle to the port was accomplished in a nice van with a pleasant driver. My only complaint is that the hotel is located on a busy street, and the room was noisy. I thought I was back in New York again!

    « Over Nighter »

Went for an overnight getaway. I will start by saying this hotel was "okay" in my opinion, it should not be listed as a "plus" and the price for the room was a bit much....I was fooled by the photos. After getting settled in, I was luckily enough to hear sirens and a helicopter hovering above. The area surrounding the hotel is run down and hear sirens all night, cars with boom boxes that rattle the windows and motorcycles with loud exhaust up and down the street. Hotel is on a main drag it appears. Good for overnight but that is about it. The staff was great though, very friendly and I did not have any problems in room.

« Best Western is the Best! »

My husband and I stayed for 1 night prior to our cruise. We were pleasantly surprised by the hospitality and Victorian charm of this hotel. The desk staff was exceptional, especially Emelin. Upon our arrival we were told that we had been upgraded to the Executive Suite. Wow...what a great treat! The hotel is beautiful and the suite was fantastic as well. We enjoyed spending time at the pool, albeit very small and the water was extremely cold. Breakfast is included each morning and includes both hot & cold buffet items. The wait staff is to be commended for keeping the tables clean & refilling the food continually. All in all, there is no other place to stay if you are travelling to San Pedro.

« Old, But Nice Hotel »

I had not planned to stay here. I paid Priceline for 3 non-smoking rooms at Extended Stay, Harbor Gateway in Torrance. Extended Stay only had smoking rooms available. Priceline sent me here at no extra charge. The location was inconvenient, but the place was very nice. And it was a non-smoking hotel, which I liked. The hotel seemed very clean, despite what appeared to be an older building. The age added to its charm. The front counter staff was very nice and helpful. However, one of the clerks had a cold, which I caught. That interfered somewhat with the business that I was on that week. Maybe the hotel needs to provide paid sick leave and make their employees with public contact take paid days when they are infectious. This place has a small, very basic breakfast buffet. The selection is very limited, but the quality was very good. The sausage and scrambled eggs were just as good or better than what is served with breakfast in most better restaurants. But your only choice was scrambled. Everyone in my group was very pleased with the breakfast there. I was in a room away from the street. It was quiet and I slept well. Another room I rented was on the street side. The person in my group that stayed in that room commented on the noise from the street. However, he said he was very happy with the hotel. We had one mishap. My daughter went into the elevator from the garage and had forgotten her room key, which is necessary to operate the elevator above the second floor (we were staying on the 4th floor). She went to open the door and it would not open. She called me on my cell so that I could get her out of the elevator. When I was unable to get the door open, I asked the front desk for help. The security guard immediately sprang into action and addressed the matter. He had me tell my daughter to simply turn the run switch off, and then on again. That worked. That incident did not affect my review. I gave it four stars because it is simply not a five star hotel (I have stayed in 5 star hotels, and this one simply is not a 5 star hotel). However, it was everything and more than I expected.

    « great hotel »

Great hotel with great service. Stayed here one night before getting on a cruise ship. Nice rooms and the picking of times for the free shuttle to the pier was great. Very nice breakfast as well. We will stay here again.

    « Room Location »

Our actual room was clean & comfortable & the breakfast was ok. When we arrived, we went to the front desk to get our keys. We were told to take the elevator to the 3rd floor go down the hall, outside past the pool & into the other building & our room was on its 2nd floor. What they neglected to tell us was that there were no elevators in the building. We had 2 very full heavy suitcases & 2 carry ons. I could not manage the stairs & the suitcases so my husband had to make 2 trips with the suitcases & then a 3rd for his carry on. It was difficult for him. In reading through the hotel guide, I saw that they had luggage assistance so after breakfast in the morning, we asked if we could have someone pick up our luggage about 11:30. We were told that would be done. When no one came, I called downstairs to see when they would be coming. A gentleman told us that they did not have luggage assistance I explained that his guide said that they did & we did not ask for a room with stairs, We were 68 yrs old & I did not want to have a heart attack. He put me on hold & finally said that he would send someone from maintenance. Even he had a difficult time getting the luggage down. In future, I would only stay there if we could get a room in the main building. If this could not be assured then I would not stay there. The girl on the front desk in the morning was friendly & helpful. The girl at night was bored & did not seem to care about anyone. She did not give us the password for the wi-fi & when I called down to get it, even though I spelled it back to her because I was unsure of what she was saying, I did not have it correct. I realized on my own what she had said but normally this is given to you up front when you get your key. Later we realized it had been written on the back of the key card holder but she had not pointed this out & we did not see it until later. Unless she was having an off day, she should perhaps consider a job that does not deal with the public. Also because of our late arrival to the hotel, the free shuttle service was only available at 8:30 in the morning (too early for boarding the ship) or at 3 (too late for boarding the ship). The girl on Sun explained though that a taxi was only about $10 and she could & did order one for us. This could have been a pleasant stay except for the room location and the gentleman who did not want to send anyone to help with luggage.

« Great Cruise and Park property »

If you are looking for a good hotel that allows you to park your vehicle during your cruise, this is the property. They have a cruise and park rate that was very reasonable. The hotel was updated and the furnishings were up to par with what you would expect from a Best Western. The neighborhood is not the nicest, however, I felt very safe in the hotel. I elected to take Uber to the pier which cost me $10 with tip rather than the hotel shuttle. The hotel shuttle has a sign up and it's very limited to the number of people it can take at one time.

    3
    « Nice Place for a Pre-Cruise Stay »

This was a nice place for us to stay the night before we left on a cruise. The hotel offered a free shuttle to the cruise pier that worked well. At the hotel itself, it seemed short of front desk staff and staff in general. Was difficult to locate someone when you had a question or a concern.

    5
    « Great pre-cruise accomodations »

Large comfortable room, close to the Port of Los Angeles. The free hot breakfast and shuttle were a plus! I would definitely stay here again before my cruise even though I was EXTREMELY disappointed the hot tub was not working. The entry to the lobby was a bit confusing as you have to enter the parking garage and take the elevator to the lobby. There were LOTS of places to get food and or drinks that were within walking distance. Neighborhood felt safe even at night.

« Convenient location to Cruise Port »

We used this hotel the night before our cruise. It was clean, comfortable, and close to the port. Breakfast was good. The staff was friendly and gave us good advice to a restaurant that would deliver food. It was pretty late when we got in and were just too tired to venture out. This hotel was also very close to a Catholic Church so we were able to attend mass before boarding our cruise ship. The only negative is that the free shuttles to the cruise port were booked full unless we wanted to go extremely early or cut it close on the late end of boarding. If you need the shuttle, schedule it as soon as you can. We would definitely use this hotel again if we were to be in the area, even if for another reason other than a cruise.

    « Nice Hotel »

stayed here prior to going on a cruise, hotel was clean and staff was very friendly and accommodating. pool and jacuzzi are not heated. shuttle to cruise port was clean and well maintained. The shuttle does not go to carnival ships. Breakfast was decent for a free hotel breakfast, free wifi signal was very weak in the room card readers in elevator don't work well

« Great stop over before our cruise. »

Our family stayed at this hotel on Feb 6/7 2016. We had a great experience, and were extremely happy with the service. Upon arrival we were offered a shuttle for our cruise on Sunday Feb 7. This was fantastic! Friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms, and a great breakfast. The couple in front of us complained bitterly to the staff. They demanded a free cab ride to the cruise ship and were complaining about the hotel. They were extremely rude to the staff. It is a shame that the staff had to deal with such ignorance. This couple should learn to be thankful for a free meal and a roof over their head. Such a "me first" world we live in, and they made the rest of us waiting to check out laugh at their stupidity. Top notch staff, great time, and we will all be back (26 of us!)

« Poor service and poor quality of breakfast »

We stayed one night en route to a cruise vacation and have used Best Westerns regularly This Best Western is dated, The rooms are Okay but due to the age of the hotel cigarette smoke has got into the wallboards in the room and as a result there is a definite stale smoke smell in supposedly non smoking rooms We were supposed to get a free shuttle from the hotel to the ship but this never happened as the shuttle was fully booked until mid afternoon. When we booked the hotel we were never told that you had to prior book the shuttle. Breakfast was poor. Half the plates were empty on the buffet The coffee urn was empty too and staff seemed in no hurry to rectify the problems.

    « before the cruise »

While the hotel and staff were fine, the street noise was horrible! from the time we checked in to the time we left the next day, there was constant noise from traffic by way of motorcycles, emergency vehicles and racing cars. we got very little sleep. If you were to still choose to stay at this hotel, I would ask for a room on the back side. On the plus side, having a free shuttle to the cruise terminal made it very convenient for us.

« Good pre cruise accommodation »

We had a problem with our reservation upon arrival. We had booked a suite for 4 of us but the assigned a room with one king bed. Desk clerk said she could not reassigned. The hotel was booked solid-in fact all of San Pedro was. We had to take our issue up the ladder but in the end was handled in a very satisfactory manner which is what was important to us. An aside: other friends who arrived later (1 couple) were assigned a room with 2 queen beds. Hellooo? That would've worked for 4 people! But as I said, we had a satisfactory outcome. Room was clean and very comfortable. It is a noisy location but the convenience for cruising outweighed that inconvenience by far. We're we to cruise out of San pedro again, we would stay here again.

« Great location for cruising »

I have stayed at this hotel a few times and find the rooms very good. They are spacious with a great bathroom and a fridge. They don't have a safe but none of the Best Westerns that we have stayed at do. This would be the best Best Western Plus I have stayed at (stayed at last five others). The difference is the best breakfast and availability of tables, the staff and location. I find it great for the complementary shuttle service to the port area. The speed of the wifi is very good (u like some other hotels).

« Very impressed with everything! »

If your going on a cruise out of San Pedro or just coming to visit, I would recommend this hotel highly. It's an older property, but in remarkable condition. The cost is reasonable compared to other brands in the area and the service was unbelievable. We dealt with Eric and Nathan at the front desk and couldn't believe the attention that they give to all the guests. The rooms have been remodeled and appear to have all new fixtures. I've stayed at plenty of Best Westerns, and many were in worse shape than some lower end budget hotels. This one is top notch in quality and service. I'm glad we stayed here. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay

« Should have stayed elsewhere »

Best Western is usually not bad but the neighbourhood they're in leaves much to be desired. Very disappointed that nothing of remote interest was nearby. Guest service was pretty good. Wifi barely works except in hotel lobby. "Fitness centre" is three machines and a tv. Clean, affordable but glad we only stayed one night.

    « Nice for a stay before a cruise »

Nice, clean and nice staff. Stayed one night before departing on a cruis with a free shuttle to the terminal. Breakfast was fairly good. Staff recommended an Italian restaurant in the neighbourhood for dinner- really good dinner. Also spent the day in San Pedro because our flight home was so late and the hotel stored our bags for the day after we returned from our cruise- overall really pleased with the service.

    « whatever »

I will not review the hotel as I was extremely disappointed with where it was located and the amount of street noise that we had to endure all night. We got very little sleep and there was no relief to be had. We would just drift off when another siren or motorcycle would come by. If we had to stay there again we would request the back of the hotel.

    3
    « hotel with stairs »

Staff was very friendly but not all of the rooms are in the main part of the hotel. If placed in the building next door you have to climb 3 levels of stairs after hauling your luggage thru the parking garage to get there.

Expensive for what you get. Not much around in terms of restaurants or things to do. Only stayed one night as we were taking a cruise the next day. Nice to have the shuttle that took us to the cruise terminal.

Very nice hotel close to the cruise port in San Pedro. They have free shuttle to the ship. Rooms are very nice and clean. Breakfast is great, a lot of options and served on regular dinnerware with silverware.

    « Very Nice »

Stayed at the Best Western San Pedro 2 nights going to and coming from a cruise Jan 24th and Jan 29th. The staff at the hotel were excellent. The bed was very comfortable, clean comfortable rooms as was the hotel. Good sized pool but on our stay the hot tub was not on. Great recommendation on a restaurant in the area-Raffeallo's. Best Italian ever. It was a 4 - 5 block walk and the area was very safe and comfortable to do that.

    « Bad Treatment »

Be warned - the night staff should be fired. We had just finished a 14 hour flight with layovers from Rio and together with 7 hour jet lag we were exhausted and ready for bed at 7 pm (which was 2 am our time). This after being up 44 hours straight with the red eye that we had taken. All we wanted was a peaceful nights sleep. It was not meant to be - party people in the hall making tons of racket. I let it go without complaint. It recurred. I opened my door the second time and asked politely for quiet explaining we had been up for 40 hours. Somehow that irked the staff because promptly at 11:38 PM after only about 3-4 hours of sleep there was a knock on our door - the knock must have persisted a long time because I was comatose and my wife woke me to tell me there was knock on the door. I was numb from exhaustion. IT WAS THE PERSON FROM FRONT DESK!!! CAN YOU IMAGINE BEING DISTURBED AT MIDNIGHT FROM STAFF??? He manufactured an excuse for knocking meekly telling us the room was supposed to be vacant!!! Frankly there is NOT ANY excuse in the world for staff to be disturbing guests in this manner. How utterly inconsiderate. Why he was knocking if the room was supposed to be vacant boggles any logic. I closed the door climbed back into bed and then not to be alone, the telephone rang 10 minutes later. Front desk again - telling me yet again that he had knocked because he thought the room was vacant. After that I was simply livid - what a awful and inconsiderate thing to do to guests - I could not sleep the rest of the night going over it in my mind. I figured it was pay back for complaining about noise in the hall at 7 pm - I spoke to the front desk next morning and he checked the booking and it showed clearly the room had been assigned to us. This was clearly pay back - or else someone a sadistic front desk night watchman looking for gags. The hotel may contact me and invite me to contact them for details through this review but doubt they will follow up. We will see. We are extremely disappointed, as this has been the hotel of choice for us over the last 3 years taking cruises. Never - never again will we be ever subjected to this kind of treatment again - the hotel staff we encountered that night are a disgrace. I am still reeling from the experience. Shame on you.

« Clean, friendly hotel near cruise terminal »

Checked in after a long day of travel, reception was friendly and efficient. Learned about Uber (not yet in Canada) and receptionist helped look at rates to return to LAX. Room was clean, 2 double beds with free wifi. Room overlooked ugly parking lot-no big deal as we were leaving early the next morning. Free breakfast in spacious room. Variety of choices. Free shuttle to ship, on time!

If you're dealing with the port of LA or taking a cruise from Pier 93, the best western san pedro is among the ONLY places you(would want)can stay overnight prior to launching into the Port. Situated in the odd little port town of San Pedro which ascends the hills behind the containers and dereks the trip down the hill to the actual port is 5 minutes. The hotel provides a shuttle every 1/2 hour gratis. And if you are cruising......you can leave your car in the hotel lot while you sip champagne and watch the sea lions along the Mexican Riviera. The hotel is on a historic block which has housed night clubs, speak easies, jazz bistros over the years---no doubt catering to the sailors and those who congregate with them. Now a very efficient hotel it caters too..........to the patrons of the ocean going vessels. The rooms are good size; beds comfortable; thin screen tv's with all of LA's channels and some cable.....free breakfast (not bad some hot some cold) it's all very Best Western branded. The rest of San Pedro is a bit rough around the edges. There's on great Italian Restaurant a bit of a walk down the hill...or easily cabable. There's plentiful drug stores and 7'11 and liquor stores right next to the hotel. The staff is friendly. The wi fi is free though a bit slow........older equipment does make checking in a tad slower than these days of instant room keys. Be sure to clear your car with the desk if you're leaving it more than overnight. We will return to the Best Western San Pedro.

« Great short stay before our cruise. »

Arrived early and Nathan at reception was amazing. Stored our luggage and let us grab a coffee and Danish while we waited for our room as we were very, very early for our checkin. Nathan managed to secure our room very quickly and also advised us of good shopping and sightseeing places nearby. Room was clean and well appointed with good facilities. The free breakfast every morning was great and the waffles were yum. The complimentary shuttle to the cruise terminal was prompt and efficient. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend. You can hire a car near the hotel cheaply for a day or two which gives you a little more freedom to look around. Hotel also has free car parking. Great stay

    « Positive hotel »

We spent 4 night in this hotel. Very friendly staff, very clean spacious room. Parking lot big enough. Small pool area. Typical american breakfast, forget about english / european version. Many restaurants and fast food around. Easy access to and from highway. What's negative - this hotel is located in port areas with more crime as normal what is easy to see on local streets. But we felt safe. Generally I recommed this hotel for family stay.

« Decent hotel for the night before your cruise »

This hotel was very convenient for us as cruisers. They provided free shuttle to the cruise terminal which is about 5 minutes door to door. Hotel staff was friendly, rooms were clean and comfortable, and buffet breakfast was adequate.

    « Beautifully renovated hotel! »

We stayed here the night before a cruise out of San Pedro. The hotel was beautiful and featured a great breakfast and free shuttle to the pier. The rooms were amazing and beautifully decorated. There had been a lot of rain and they were dealing with wet walls and floors, but at a minimal disruption to their customers.

    « Breathtaking Hotel »

This hotel is so beautiful and the staff is great. They even had a complimentary shuttle to the cruise port. Lots of restaurants around and stores within walking distance. It is an older hotel, but you would never know. Will definitely stay here again, whenever were in the area

« The staff of this hotel took great care of me while my wife was treated for over a month in a nearby hospital. »

Thanks so much to the friendly, concerned and helpful staff who were life savers for me: Nathan, Eric, Amanda, Nora, Daniel, Emmelin, The breakfast preparing ladies and the room cleaning ladies. My wife was struck ill on a cruise to Mexico with a herniated bowel obstruction. When we returned to port and got surgery done at a nearby hospital, there were complications to recovery that set me firmly planted in San Pedro for over a month trying to get my wife well enough to fly back to Texas. As soon as I arose each day, I was fed a wonderful breakfast that I could always count on to get me through the day even if the rest of the meals of the day were hit or miss. Waffles, sausage patties, scrambled eggs, fruits (like apples, oranges, bananas), toast, hot oatmeal, dry cereals, bagels, orange juice, apple juice, milk, coffee, and always a complimentary newspaper to read. After getting a grab & go bag from the front desk (with a snack and a bottled water in it), calling a cab, spending all day beside my wife's bed at the hospital, then coming back to the hotel in a cab at night, this place was truly a welcoming place of comfort and concern for my wellbeing. It provided me a clean safe place to get a wonderful shower, comfortable bed to get some rest while relaxing to some TV. In the evenings, if I wasn't too tired, I would take a few steps to some of the eating places close by for supper. These included a McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell, Sushi-21, Uno Hawaiian Barbeque, and a Pollo Loco (I wish we had these in Texas, it was really good). It's not good to be on the streets of big cities after dark but I kept my excursions happening no later than 8:00pm and had no problems. The street in front of the hotel called Gaffey is very busy and a bit noisy but that's just the nature of a big city. The staff tried in every way to make my stay pleasant and helped me to keep focused on helping with my wife's recovery by providing me a place to call home where I could get that good breakfast, and receive shipments of much needed items, also provided such things as a phone in my room, fax machine if needed, copy machine, computer & internet connection, etc. They really watched out for me and helped me any way they could (and quickly became my family away from home - they made this o'l Texan feel so well protected and accepted in California). Now that my wife and I are back in Texas, finally in our home again, I wanted to take the time tonight to give thanks to this hotel and its' personnel. Thanks to everyone who did so much for me at this Best Western Plus (10/31/15-12/07/15). Gordon Becker

« Good value. Lots of pluses. Some things could improve »

Pros: Decent location. Nice decor in lobby area hallways and rooms. Fair to middlin' breakfast. Standard for this type of motel. Nice to have off street parking. Spacious rooms with good lighting. Good beds and good quality pillows. One front desk guy gave a great reference to a local restaurant. Good value for the area. Cons: Front desk staff indifferent - not rude just seemed bored and not wanting to bestir themselves. Stop advertising a bar if you don't have one. Hallways very cold because doors to outside propped open. Internet wifi iffy. Could not understand why tv only provided severely limited cable channels and NO local channels or standard cable channels (think CNN, Fox, MSNBC). No extra pillows or blankets in closet. Only 2 bath towels provided.

    « Needed More Info »

The online information did not indicate that there are some rooms in separate buildings with steep stairs and no elevators. We could have reserved a more appropriate room before they were all taken. Also, Park/Sail customers should be offered a port shuttle reservation in advance, depending on their check-in time with the ship.

    « Great experience »

UNACCEPTABLE. Called for pickup - told 15 min. 30 min. later called again and she said she would call driver and call us back. She never called us because she was "busy". We waited an hour to be picked up. Driver never knew we were waiting and no apology when got back to hotel for our car.

    « Good hotel »

Everything was very good, except the laundry. The front desk didn't have the quarters for me to do the laundry. So, $1.5 for washing + $1.5 for drying + $2 for the detergent...please count how many coins you need

« Good choice for cruise ship stop »

Hotel is in really good condition, rooms are very large with nice furnishings, staff is very. friendly. Shuttle bus driver is great, although I was surprised at how small the bus is considering the number of people from the cruise ships who stay here. Breakfast was good. Fast food restaurants are just a couple of blocks away, corner stores nearby. The area is a bit rundown but we never felt that it was unsafe to walk around. Definitely would stay here again.

« Great Breakfast but no free cruise ship shuttle »

We selected this hotel because we needed a hotel close to the cruise ship terminal and they said they had a free shuttle from the hotel. The good things: check-in was quick and efficient. We had a large room that was clean, comfortable and quiet. The staff were friendly and efficient. The complimentary breakfast offered a plentiful supply of cooked foods (eggs, sausage etc), waffles, toast, cereals along with hot coffee and tea and some fresh fruit. The not so good things: we arrived in the evening. The room we were given was in an annex, across the hotel parking lot and up 27 steps. There was no elevator. We had two heavy suitcases, the receptionist carried one of the bags up to the room, but there was no help with the other bag or for the way down. The hotel shuttle was booked up by the time we arrived. They offered us a ride at 9.30 a.m. (too early) or 2.10 p.m. (too late). Apparently, there is only one 7 seat shuttle to take hotel guests to the cruise ship and it is filled on a ?first come? basis - not very good for a hotel that was proud to boast that it was full up with cruise ship guests and not very helpful for hotel guests who are flying into LA. The cab to the cruise ship terminal was quick and comfortable and got us to the terminal at the time we wanted. The cost was about $12. There was no hotel restaurant or coffee shop. The only food nearby was fast food. We ended up eating food from the 7-11 opposite. There is a McDonalds a few blocks away, but we only found that the next morning. We didn't feel comfortable exploring the area on foot in the dark. Other reviewers have had better experiences with this hotel. If we cruise from LA again, I think we will try a hotel close to LAX and take the shuttle to the cruise ship terminal from there.

    « Great Pre/Post Cruise Stop »

Well situated on a busy street, just up the hill from the cruise port. A reasonable distance from MIA and free shuttle to the port terminal. Basic clean room at a reasonable price. Helpful staff and several fast food and restaurants within easy walking distance. Included is a breakfast. Not much else around the area which is a bit run down however a great purpose driven establishment providing the essentials.

Very friendly and helpful staff. It is an absolutely beautiful hotel with a pool and hot tub. Very clean and serves a free breakfast in the morning. To our surprise, our room was upgraded twice at no charge to us. It was a wonderful place to stay. I would definitely go back!

    « Cold Room - Wet Towels »

It took six hours for the room to get warm that was after I went to learn how to use the remote heater control. The towels were wet I have no idea why the hotel staff would hang them. I did not feel like my vehicle was safe in the parking provided.

« San Pedro, Calif. Best Western Plus »

Very nice Best Western Plus! We were going on a cruise and it was located very close to the ship. They not only provided a great place to stay, they let us leave our vehicle parked while we were cruising, at a very reasonable rate and also provided free shuttle to the port. We will definitely use them again!!

« LA to Mexico Cruise »

I agree with the other reviews. Excellent location close to the port where they have a friendly staff and clean updated environment. Free shuttle to the ship and a good breakfast buffet. Take a 20 min walk south to the Fish Market Restaurant area where there is a string of seafood restaurants along the water which is a few blocks from the cruise port and the Iowa battle ship. Be aware, you can spend over $100 for a lobster combo platter but I had plenty for two people ordering a $15 seafood fajita. After the cruise we were allowed to shuttle back to the hotel for free as we had to wait 7 hrs for our flight back home. We took a super shuttle for $37 for 2. The hotel was nice to hold our luggage until we wanted to go to the airport. If we ever do another LA cruise we'll be back but we highly recommend this hotel. FYI The cruise advertises Wi-Fi everywhere but it is not free and is very expensive. Texting works while on the ship so for those who have to keep connected get a good text package.

Front staff (Nathan) was very courteous, permitted us to check in early. Great knowledge of the area and gives good directions. Morning shuttle to cruise terminal is a great service.

I recommend it highly!

    « Cruise ship shuttle »

Excellent point to start from for a cruise. Hotel clean. Staff pleasant to deal with. Free shuttle to the ship in the morning. Not a lot of food choice around the hotel. Mostly fast food places. We did find a sushi restaurant down the street. Expect street noise. Good choice for a one night stay.

    « Pleasant stay »

We stayed here for 2 nights pre cruise and were very happy. Our room was large and clean and being at the back of the hotel it was quiet. Breakfast is a serve yourself simple affair and was adequate. The room had a large tv and a big bathroom with separate washbasin outside good for 2 of you trying to get ready together. Staff were friendly and helpful especially Nathan on the front desk the fountain of all knowledge. We would definitely stay again it's so handy for the port with a shuttle.

« Room Great Parking Inadequate »

We booked this hotel as they advertised expended parking for cruise length, as they are close to Los Angeles Cruise terminal. There were no parking spaces available when we arrived and were told that there would probably be some when returning passengers arrived, but couldn't guarantee it. There isn't a separate long term parking area only around hotel which is totally inadequate. We cancelled the parking option and parked at the terminal. Don't book this hotel for the parking feature. Also not in nicest area for non secured parking

    « Worst experience ever! »

My husband and I showed up at the hotel around 7pm on Thanksgiving with our reservation confirmation in hand. There was nobody at the front desk or in the lobby. We thought we'd entered the hotel incorrectly and walked around the block looking to see if there was another entrance. Unfortunately, we had it right...nobody at the front desk still and all the doors to the lobby were wide open. We called out, looked in doors that said, "employees only" and basically wandered around for a good 15-20 minutes before giving up and looking for another place to stay. Before leaving, I took a picture of the name of the "manager on duty" so if someone from this hotel wants that information, I'm glad to share it. My sister and her family live in the area and they said this exact same thing happened to their nephew last year. Obviously, we won't be back.

    « nice turn around »

The last time I was here on business, the food was less than fair. This time, I noticed the person preparing the food was different and so was the food. The eggs were hot and fluffy, not watery, the sausage was hot not greasy. It seems, they cut down on the items available for breakfast. But, that was fine with me. They also have "Grab and Go" free! In a lunch bag, you have a bottle of water, breakfast bar and a piece of fruit. Great idea!

    « Street side room a nightmare... »

This is a pre-cruise hotel. Meaning that you drive straight to the cruise port which is just a few blocks away without having to turn down any side streets. Most people staying here are simply staying at this property because it is close to the cruise port. We requested a room on the highest floor with a view of the harbor. We were tickled that our request was honored. The hotel is a little dated but very clean. We loved the fact that you could exit out on to the mezzanine (roof) and take in the view. The breakfast buffet was good and the staff very helpful. The fitness facility consisted of a universal gym, Treadmill, etc.. With that being said be careful what you wish for.. If you get a street side room ( ON GAFFEY STREET) be prepared to hear sirens. loud motorcycles, car races, and just plain busy noise. I am not sure if San Pedro was having a rough night the night we were there but we heard Sirens all night long about every 20-40 minutes, Rooms 326 and 328 seem to be more idealistic. This of course is no fault of the Hotel.. The bed was very comfortable and we loved the location and I know we will be back here again. We will just be more careful and try to select a room that is not directly on the main drag..

    « Excellent Pre-Cruise Hotel »

We stayed at this hotel the night before our cruise out of the San Pedro port. We were upgraded to a fabulous suite with a balcony and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The bed was comfy, and the internet was free. We were five minutes from the port with a free shuttle provided the morning of our cruise. All in all, we highly recommend this hotel.

« 2nd stay at this hotel - great service!! »

Stayed last July to check out area & was pleased with hotel. Made reservations at that time for our cruise in October. They let us park our car for the entire 28 day cruise and provided shuttle transportation to the Pier (for Princess cruises). You pay a little more for your room but definitely worth it. Extremely helpful & cheerful front desk personnel. Upon returning from cruise our car wouldn't start (even tho checked by dealer before we left). Motor club couldn't make it for over an hour so my husband asked the front desk if they could recommend someone. They suggested their own maintenance man, Sergio, could jump start our car. Sergio tried but still car wouldn't turn over. Then he had the idea to remove battery completely and reinstall thus clearing the car's computer. Started right up! Recommended an Auto Zone a few blocks away for a new battery (which they installed). In less time than waiting for the motor club, we were on our way home. Could not thank the hotel and Sergio enough for all their help. Would definitely stay there again when in San Pedro.

    « Did the job!! »

Spent 5 nights in LA and chose this spot to hang our hats. Locationally not ideal for anything really, but it is at the end of 110 and was always easy to find our way back. Room was clean, self serve breakfast was good, not too noisy, despite being roadside, and beyond the wifi being spotty the first 2 days, it was ideal. The Air Con smelled a little funny too, but we're not used to that in Ireland. Hard to find reasonably priced accom in LA, this did the trick, be prepared for an hour or even 2 in traffic if you're going to Hollywood, Universal or Disney and keep in mind, this is not within walking distance of anything, except a Seven Eleven. Rent a Car if you're staying here.

We chose this property for a pre-cruise stay and parking option during our cruise. Everything was extremely satisfactory. Front desk staff was helpful with all of our inquiries. The room was nicely appointed with comfortable bedding. The shuttle service to and from the passenger pier worked out beautifully.

« The worst Best Western I have been in - Never Again »

I stopped coming here about 2 years ago, but was coming to the area again and thought I would give it another try, that was a Mistake! First off, no customer service skills to start - had a Best Western $20 corporate discount (from Best Western as a "preferred guest"), when I came to check in I was told they will not honor it, and only went down hill from there! After charging me the Highest rate they could find, then they said they would except it (rate was $37 higher). Anyway, it was getting late so I paid it anyway since I was staying only 1 night. I phoned the front desk to ask what the wifi password was, which he did not want to give it to me, but said its on your room key, didn't think that was really asking much. (The wifi might or might not work, consistently dropping signal time and time again, and I was trying to use it for email, No Streaming) After getting into our room which was dusty, smelled of mold (or other things), and within 2 hours had two different people knocking at our door (shady looking people, although they do have a security guard there - which should have told me volumes), at 2:34 am some of their guest brought the party into the hallways waking us up. With the party still going on until past 5 am, finally got up, went down stairs to get some coffee, which was cold. Went across the street, bought a cup of coffee. Came down for a cup of coffee about 6:30 am, coffee still cold. Came down again at 7:15 am, once again, cold coffee. Pretty sad when you cannot get a cup of hot coffee at a hotel. Not a safe hotel, drug users, do not know how it stays as a Best Western Plus, let alone a Best Western at all - Will Never Stay Again, and avoid this place at all times!!!

    « Night before a cruise »

A reasonable place close to the departure port for our Panama Canal cruise. Area that the hotel is located isn't the best but the room was okay and the staff were good. The girl trying to organize people to get to their cruises was exceptional, having 4 cruise boats to get people to was a huge task and she did a great job. All in all the stay was okay. We stayed 2 nights and had a little difficulty finding a place to eat that was reasonable and within walking distance of the hotel.

« Best Western Plus Near ports of California »

This was a beautiful hotel. Friendly staff, nicely decorated and very clean. We chose this hotel due to it's close proximity to the cruise ports, as we were leaving for a 7 day cruise the following day .We were very pleased with the accommodations and look forward to returning on a future trip to California.

« Would not recommend this hotel at all »

We stayed here one night before our Princess Cruise, and it was horrible. We had a 1 bedroom suite, and it was so outdated and old, with worn furniture and bedding. The street noise was horrible, even with all the windows closed. And the wrap around balcony on this floor used by all the smokers - so the smoke leaks into your suite and smells. The neighborhood did not look safe at all - and we did not feel comfortable going out and walking around - so we were forced to order a pizza and have it delivered for dinner. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, and would never stay here again pre-cruise.

    « Good for a Short Stay »

My wife and I picked this hotel based on the reviews found on Tripadvisor. We were attending a conference in Long Beach but the hotel we wanted was not available. Even though this probably wouldn't be considered a hotel for the Long Beach Convention Center - it is an easy 15 minute drive from the hotel to the convention center. The rooms are quite standard with somewhat higher than normal ceilings. They are clean and well maintained and the water is hot in the shower. Breakfast consists of sausage patties, scrambled eggs, waffles, yogurt, oatmeal, three types of cereal, pastries, juice and milk. There are mostly fast food restaurants in the area so a car is a must to get around. Other contributors have mentioned that the area is somewhat "sketchy". There are a certain number of street people / homeless in the area so if anyone is really concerned about crime in the area - go to LAPD online and then to Crime Mapping / COMPSTAT and type in the address of the hotel to get a better idea.

« 'Plus' is more than a name! »

Great service, great staff, clean, convenient to cruiseport and parking available for length of cruise. We received an upgrade to suite because we were a returning customer... much appreciated. No restaurant, tho.

    « Convenient place to stay pre-cruise »

We chose to stay here this time prior to our cruise vacation. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Very secure, as access to the floors with the rooms is restricted and you must use your room key in the elevator. They have a shuttle service to the port and the registration staff are very polite and friendly. There is a complimentary breakfast offered in the morning and a very limited exercise room. They do not have an attached restaurant, but there are plenty of dining options within walking distance. Overall, this motel is price efficient for the locale and amenities and I would stay here again.

    « Couldn't be happier... »

With our choice of staying here. We had booked a room as part of a group that was set up with Dan, the manager. We got to the hotel about 1 pm and check in was immediate as well as signing up for the shuttle to the ship for Saturday morning. After settling in the room I went down to get information on where to have dinner. Dan was at the desk and gave me several recommendations and even volunteered to drive our group of 4 to the restaurant of our choice. They also have a book in the lobby that has menus from many of the local restaurants you can look at. There is a pool, hot tub and fitness center at this property also. The room was clean, nicely decorated and very comfortable. I thought it might have been updated recently but he said it was actually all done 2yrs. ago. Breakfast was adequate..scrambled eggs, sausage patties, waffles and the usual cereal, yogurt, pastries and fruit. We were told the owner is in the process of getting permits to reopen the bar and restaurant so hopefully the next time we're here it will all be open. We have no complaints whatever and look forward to our next cruise and staying here again.

Might have given this hotel a five rating if not for just one person. Terrible first impression upon arrival and check-in by the front desk clerk. When asked if there were tissues in room, told no since guests steal everything not nailed down. Moreover check-in could not have been slower. There were other comments and actions by this clerk but enough already with the negative. Every other staff member was wonderful. Amanda at the front desk was outstanding. The maids and breakfast personnel were terrific. This hotel represents a great value too.

« Still a good stay, but some problems this time. »

Stayed here 9/22. Easy check in for the park and cruise package. However, I arrived at 3:15 P.M. (check in is 3:00 P.M.) and found that most of the earlier van assignments had already been booked up. There was only one other couple in the lobby, so just how did that happen.? They are not suppose to book any van times for the trip to the cruise piers on the following day until you actually check in the day prior. Hmmm? So it turned out that my wife went in the van on the trip before me and had to wait at the pier for me to be transported and meet her. Not very cool at all... The room was good as always. Very clean and comfortable. No T.V. listings so you have to change channels to find something to watch. Breakfast the next morning was good. The dinning room was full as usual. When we go back from our cruise and called to be picked up at pier 54, I was told that the van would arrive in about 20 minutes. After calling again an hour later we were assured that the van was on it's way and should be there shortly. After waiting there for an hour and a half, we decided to take a cab back to the motel about two miles away to get our car. $15.00 including the tip. They simply were not able to handle the number of cruise ships in port at the same time. That should have been something they would have prepared for, knowing that there would be returning customers at all of the ships. I never once saw the Best Western San Pedro van at pier 54 during the entire time we waited. I can only assume that there were no passengers leaving the motel to board that ship requiring a trip from the motel to that particular pier. So much for the returning guests I suppose... I will consider another stay if I plan another cruise from San Pedro but I'll check how many ships will be returning to the port at the same time. No sense planning on the return ride to the motel if there's too many ships for them to handle.

« Great Pre Cruise Hotel »

Very nice and clean hotel. The only downside is that there is very little to do near the hotel. If you want to do any sighseeing pre cruise you will need a car or plan on a tour. Breakfast is very good. Dinner choices within walking distance of hotel is also limited, but the hotel is very close to the World Cruise Port and the hotel offers a free shuttle to the port if you choose.

    « Feel like a home... »

I chose this hotel because it was close to the cruise ship terminal in San Pedro. That was a really great experience for me. Facility is nice, staff is very friendly. Clean and organized hotel. Also close to downtown and shopping mall as well...

« All that is missing is the restaurant »

This was our first time to stay here since this property became a Best Western and I think this was a great move. The amenities are very nice and, as I titled this, all that is missing is the restaurant. I spoke with the manager and he told me that the restaurant in coming.

    « A look of shock, a good thing »

The title refers to the look on Sauls face when we rolled in with our luggage at 5:45 AM. His first reaction was are you checking out.......no checking in. It worked out great. He found us a room and helped us get our luggage to it and was very friendly thru the entire process. You see, we were arriving from a red eye flight from Hawaii. The proerty is great for cruisers as it has shuttle service to the port. Room we had was good but the best part was Saul.......if you stay there be sure to tell him I said hi........

« Wonderful Stay in San Pedro »

We checked into this hotel for one night pre-cruise. We were not expecting it to be as lovely as it turned out to be. We were greeted by Amanda at the front desk and she was so very helpful and delightful. Our room as large, spacious, clean and much nicer than we had expected. We were pleased with the elevator-card to access our floor and felt very safe (not that there was any reason for concern...just an added plus!) The entire hotel was clean and well decorated. The next morning, we had a wonderful complimentary breakfast. There were many lovely and fresh items from which to choose...and all were delicious. The hotel even provided a free shuttle service to the port for us to embark on our cruise. All in all, it was a wonderful experience and we would highly recommend this hotel as well as surely use it in the future.

    « A good night before a cruise! »

This hotel is great for a pre-cruise stay. Not the Ritz, not Motel 6. It's right in the middle. Clean, friendly staff, decent breakfast, good AC system on a hot day. If you're expecting more, there are other hotels in the area that charge much more. For the price, this hotel is a gem. (And perhaps a diamond in the rough?)

« Diamond in the port town rough! »

As a Travel Agent, I stay in hotels often. The Best Western San Pedro is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in! It truly is a little gem. It doesn't look like much on the exterior, but once inside, I was blown away. Historic decor and art work blended with modern upgrades was just stunning. The staff went above and beyond to make our one night stay pleasant and comfortable. Our room was massive and included its own, private office and hallway, and a view of the lovely, sparkling clean swimming pool and spa. The shuttle service to the Long Beach port was perfect and I knew my car would be safe and secure in their covered garage during my sailing. My stay here was phenomenal. I hope to cruise from Long Beach again so I can stay again in the future! Highly recommended!

« I might have given them 5 o's except for the call from Eric the auditor at midnight... »

Hotel seems recently remodeled. Clean, nice upscale room. comfy bed and bedding. Great location from the San Pedro harbor. Breakfast was average but great service. I might have given them 5* except Eric the night auditor called us at midnight trying to track down a guest in our group! We were sound asleep. His call was absolutely unnecessary and he was rude and unapologetic. Bazaar!

    « Very Nice Hotel »

We stayed here pre and post cruise. The décor is not what you would expect at a BW....nice antiques, chandeliers, etc. Room was large and clean, Shower was a rain shower. Good breakfast offered and included in the price. A few restaurants to choose from within walking distance. Would stay here again if we were cruising out of LA

This Best Western Hotel offered a stay and cruise package where you stay the night before the cruise and park your car during the cruise at the hotel and they shuttle you to and from the cruise port - reservation to cruise ship was fine - but you had to line up to get shuttle back and it took about an hour to get back Hotel was full so internet wifi was vary SLOW
