« Great staff and clean room »

room is clean and staff is very helpful. The airport shuttle service is great. The only thing can be improved is the variety of breakfast. We stayed there for three nights, the breakfast is almost the same choices everyday.

    « Thumbs up »

Early check in on Thanksgiving day after a great Panama Canal cruise. Bayside Inn was a great site for sore travelers. I have stayed here times before and always find it very clean and friendly staff. Located close to the Harbor and other great places to see.

    « Very dissapointing »

Don't expect food or drink to be available on the weekend. Even though they say they have the services available. Shuttle service is slow and the driver was sulky. I'm very disappointed in BW. All they said was "sorry".

    « Great Location »

I searched high & low for an affordable option in downtown San Diego and decided on this hotel based on the reviews. We agree, this is a great option for the price you pay. The location is great, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. We had no issues with our stay. Parking is $18 per night which is not bad compared to other hotels. It's walking distance to Little Italy shops & restaurants. They provide a breakfast voucher which was well stocked. The only thing they did not have was fresh chopped fruit, only whole apples and bananas, but other than that they had a good selection of eggs, ham, pancakes, cereal & other pastries. Would stay again & recommend to friends.

« Good Value Hotel for Downtown Location »

Being a Best Western Plus, this is a nicer hotel than the standard Best Westerns. If you are looking for a good value, basic hotel, in the downtown area, this is a good choice. - Room: clean, no frills. Came with fridge and microwave, which is nice to have. - Front desk: check-in and check-out was was easy. - Location: within walking distance to the Bay as well as some great eateries. It's a little over a 1 mile from the Gaslamp and Convention Center, which is within walking distance. Or, if you prefer, there's a trolley stop a few blocks away, which make getting around downtown fairly easy. - Complimentary breakfast: standard Best Western fare. Main difference is breakfast takes place in an actual restaurant located right next to the hotel, instead of a small room inside the hotel. This gives it a nicer ambience. - Overnight parking: additional $18 per night. Seems like a lot but probably on the lower price end compared to other hotels in the downtown area. Overall, would stay here again.

    « Great location »

This is an excellent hotel, located within easy walking distance of Little Italy and the San Diego waterfront. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the employees are friendly and courteous. My husband and I always stay here when we are in San Diego.

    « Great small hotel »

After leaving the madness of Las Vegas San Diego was a welcome relief! This hotel was small but had everything we needed-including free airport transfers and free breakfast..not offered in either of our 4/5* hotels in Vegas Great helpful staff..nothing too much trouble. .nice to see the same faces on reception etc Perfect location for Little Italy....Gas Lamp and of course the Bay...of which we had a great view from our room The trolley tour stop is just on the door stop too.. Had the best meals EVER!!! in Little Italy..It has a great vibe about the area.. And no one can vist San Diego without a trip to the zoo...what a place....amazing...or should I say..."AWESOME" Well done Bayside!!

« Basic hotel, nothing special, except for free airport service. »

I was in San Diego in April 2016 during a week to visit a science conference. The hotel i in the city center and near to the airport. It is near the Metro station. The neighborhood is OK and safe. It is a very basic USA hotel, three stars. It has clean big rooms. You receive an average welcome, nothing special or a word too much. You can have breakfast at the neighboring building (not included). There is no minibar in the room: you have to buy a drink or basis stuff in the small uncozy lobby. So no surprises here. However: when I headed back to the airport I could use the free of charge hotel airport service.

« Some good some not so good »

Hotel is near Little Italy, and has good access to Hwy5. Rooms are OK, but nothing special. Price was high for the quality. We could not use the shuttle service as it started too late to make our flight. The same for the breakfast the last day. Breakfast is in a building adjacent to the hotel, OK, but again nothing special. Parking costs an extra $18 a day, and put the bill for a three day weekend well North of $500. Given the overall quality of amenities and service, you could probably do better.

« Good location. Outdated rooms. »

If you wanna be close to the gas lamp and little Italy this is a great location at a good price. The rooms and mattresses are oldish and were not very comfortable. The breakfast wAs great. Good stay. They just need to invest a bit.

« 2 Day stay after cruising / Mexican Riviera »

This hotel is a short taxi ride from the Cruise Line Port. We stayed 2 days after our 11 day cruise. We arrived early morning and did not have to wait long for a room to be ready for us. The king bed room was very spacious, and had a fridge and microwave. We had a Take Out Meal from Little Italy Restaurant, which the hotel suggested and gave us a menu so we could phone for delivery. They also have a shuttle service for airport and cruise line departure and pickup. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had breakfast included. This is served at their own restaurant next door to the hotel. They also serve lunch and dinner Monday to Friday. WE would recommend this hotel.

    4
« Very well located and customer friendly! »

We enjoyed spending the night before our cruise at this conveniently located facility. We selected it because of it's close location to the cruise terminal, its airport and cruise terminal shuttle, and the buffet breakfast. The service was excellent.

« Great locatioin and staff »

This is the 2nd time this year we have returned to San Diego and stayed at the Best Western Plus Bayside after our cruise for 2 nights. We found last time it has large rooms, wonderful, helpful staff and close to everything we wanted to be able to walk to. We walked down the street to the cruise port to watch the ship sail away; walked to Little Italy for lunch and supper which is 1 block away; walked to the Cheesecake Factory which is a further walk but still walkable; took a bus to visit friends staying at a different location. (and we preferred our accommodations and location much better). The lobby also has computers if you need to use them to print boarding pass etc. The included buffet and wifi is a bonus for us and no resort fee. I hope they keep this up as it will be our first choice whenever we come to San Diego.

    5
« Perfect Pre Cruise hotel »

We stayed in this hotel before we went on our cruise. The hotel was just perfect as a pre cruise hotel. They have a shuttle that picks you up at the airport and also takes you to cruise terminal. Service has been excellent. They had our hotel room ready when we arrived at noon even though check in time is 3 pm. The front desk also gave us good advice on where to go and what to see. The location is perfect as it is right beside little Italy and close to the mts trolley and the midway museum. There are lots of great restaurants in the area. The morning buffet breakfast was good and had ham and eggs. The room and beds were very comfortable and had a balcony so you could access the gps from your hotel room. It doesn't get any better than this!

« Good basic hotel in a great location in San Diego »

After much research of hotels in San Diego I chose the BW Bayside Inn because it was: close to the cruise ship terminals, Little Italy, and the SD Trolley buses. much less expensive than other three star hotels in the downtown area (plus I could use my Air Miles to book it). the only hotel that included breakfast. Arrival/check-in: My wife, three year old daughter, and myself arrived in SD after a four day cruise from Vancouver. When we arrived in SD I called the hotel and requested if the shuttle bus could pick us up. I was told it was going to the airport but would be coming here after that and should be here soon. About 20 minutes later the minivan with the large 'BW' logo arrived at the terminal. I flagged him down and he quickly loaded our bags and drove us to the hotel. He told us it was a good thing I had flagged him down because he was not expecting to pick up anyone. Check-in was quick, the hotel staff was courteous. There was no bellhops, just a luggage cart, so I had to push all our luggage to the elevator to our room. Room/Amenities Our room was on the 7th floor, facing the SD harbour and the Star of India ship. The room was quite large, clean, and nicely decorated. The TV had all the basic channels plus movies and sports but we were surprised that there were no PPV movies. The only street noise I could hear is if an emergency vehicle went by with its siren on or if some idiot was playing his stereo loudly (that's just the perils of staying downtown). The pool was COLD so we just stayed in the hot tub. The breakfast was good, basic cold and hot items (cereal, yogurt, eggs, pancakes, toast). The hotel is about a 20 minute walk to the Gaslamp Quarter and Seaport Village, and a five minute walk to Little Italy and the SD Trolley bus. We walked to all the above areas and never felt unsafe walking anywhere, even at night. Check-out: We flew out of SD to Vancouver on Tuesday, so on Monday night I requested the shuttle bus to the airport, they asked us what time we wanted to go and put us on a list. The shuttle bus driver took us quickly to the airport and our terminal. The only complaint I have about the hotel is that there were no brochures about the attractions, restaurants, or things to do in SD (ie. SD Zoo, Old Town, SeaWorld, etc.) or the means to get there. Maybe everyone uses their phone or tablets to find these things out and I am just 'old-school' so that is the reason why. There is a desktop computer in the lobby to use and wi-fi is included no charge. The staff were also unable to provide us with the basic information about SeaWorld, the Zoo, etc. I think that the staff should be better trained on things like that. But despite that we like the hotel and we would stay there again.

    4
    « Accessible »

The hotel was within walking distance of the different sites to see. There was a train station nearby that we could walk to and even get a train to Mexico from it. The breakfast was excellent and had a lot of variety. It was convenient to have the car in a garage that we could get to it.

« great central location for a week in san diego »

One of the hardest decisions in our week trip to San Diego was where to stay. Glad we picked this location. It was easy walking to all the bayside activities; harbor tours, ferry to Coronado, Midway tour, Seaport Village or the Maritime Museum. We walked each evening to Little Italy with a plethora of restaurants. Short drives to the zoo, Balboa Park or Point Loma. Parking is 18 dollars but that is still lower than many of the other motels I investigated. A large breakfast area that you do have to walk outside to access, but it is no big deal (after all, it is San Diego weather!) A fair choice of breakfast items, including scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage or ham. Great staff at the breakfast bar/ restaurant. Don't be afraid to use the restaurant- we had a great burger there one night. Did indulge in a bayside view on the 10th floor. Very comfortable bed and there is a microwave and frig in the room. Don't miss the Saturday Farmer's Market in Little Italy!

    « Short Stay »

Nice hotel in a good location near Little Italy and convenient to downtown.Transportation within walking distance; also Seaport area and USS Midway.Nice view from bayside rooms on upper floors. Parking a little pricey but consistent with other offsite locations. Restaurant somewhat plain but good food and service.

« great location, friendly staff »

great value and location, close to lots of restaurants and running trails. Included breakfast is satisfactory to start the day but not extravagant. Room was clean, spacious, comfortable, but simple. We had an accessible room for someone who needs a walk in shower, they only have king beds in those rooms, but the pull out sofa was comfortable for me to sleep on as the 3rd person in the room.

    4
    « Good Location »

Hotel very close to all amenities in San Diego. Would recommend hotel and would stay here again. Good breakfast. The restaurant is not open on weekends but did enjoy a good meal one evening during the week.

    « Great location, facilities & staff »

I can't really think of anything that would have made our experience better. I spoke with staffmembers before our stay twice (my issues, not theirs). Moses and another staffmember were very professional, personable, and took great care. All of the staff in the hotel was exceptional. Location is great in downtown San Diego. We used the tram for all of our transportation and it was just a block or two away. A very pleasureable experience; rates were also great. We will stay next time we are in San Diego.

« This really is a Best, Best »

Really impressed with BW Plus Bayside Inn. We had been at the Oceanside BW for 4 days and decided to get into the heart of the City for dayside walking and a nighttime crawl. The mid week booking made for competitive pricing and our 14 floor suite looked east to the city and beyond. We asked about a Bay view and Grace happily accommodated a move to a 9th floor on our second night with a view to the Star of India Tallship . They facilitated this before 9:30 am as we were leaving at that time for an appointment even delivering new keys in person to our room. Downtown San Diego is really quiet at night, we could sleep with sliding door to small patio partly open. I spent an hour sitting on the deck watching the commuter trains and coaster below. The BW Bayside is a great location to hit the Gaslamp. It's about a 20 minute walk. Music fans will know that the Music Box is immediately next door and we missed out on two favourite bands by bad timing on our end. Breakfast that came included is a notch above other hotels we've stayed in and is in a proper setting (As opposed to small room or front area) We often stay at Best Westerns and really this is in the very top and would be the place we would stay at on our next visit to San Diego. (to see a band next door)

    « Comfortable overnight stay »

We stayed one night with our 3- and 4-year old grandchildren. The check-in and check-out process was quick and easy. Breakfast was delicious! However, the hotel was very dated and the carpet in our room needed cleaning. Nevertheless, the room was clean and bedding was comfortable. The kids enjoyed the secure pool area.

    « Would Stay Again »

The Best Western was surprisingly quite an affordable hotel. The lobby looked like it was recently renovated, and the rooms did not appear to be dated. Beds were comfortable and the multiple amounts of pillows were fluffy. Rooms have a fridge and microwave. Location was pretty decent. Right in the middle of Little Italy and Gaslamp. Easily walking distance between the two. Big advantage ? they offer free airport pick-up and drop off (just call once you land at the San Diego airport). Also, they offered free breakfast which was pretty decent ? better than your average free breakfast (they had scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, muffins, oatmeal, toast, etc.). Front staff was friendly and helpful. Drawbacks ? morning coffee was horrible and their fruit selection was not only weak but the fruits were old, dried out and flavourless. But these drawbucks are not enough to not stay here again.

    « Best Western Bayside »

If you are just looking for an okay place to sleep it will work for you. It is cheaper than the other "brand name" hotels in the area. Really kind of a no frills place to stay. Location is okay, right next to Little Italy and within walking distance of the museum ships.

    4
    « Economical Fair »

Nice, quaint hotel. Pool & hot tub were clean. Staff was polite and attentive to guests. An older hotel, but convenient walking distance to Gaslamp District and Convention Center. Breakfast buffet was clean and staff was very polite.

    5
    « Great hotel »

Stayed here for 12 nights, it's a very nice hotel. You feel appreciated and valued as a customer. Complementary breakfast, pool towels, and all the rest. Wifi is free and quite good signal throughout hotel. Staff are very helpful and friendly. It's in a great location, only a 10 minute walk from station, harbour and other shops. Really easy and made it all much more relaxing. Coming back next year

    5
    « Great place. »

We were pleasantly surprised by what we got for our money here. It was more or less a small suite rather than a double room. We had our own kitchen, good sized balcony and a sea view. We didn't know we would have a complimentary paddle ferry ride across the bay and, all in all, this was a great place to stay.

    4
« Nice place to stay! »

Fresh, clean and tidy place near little Italy. I absolutely recommend this place, good value for the money. The parking was super, the breakfast buffé was fresh and the location was great. The room were quite big. The only thing negative was that the jacuzzi was a bit dirty.

    5
« Great price, location, and breakfast »

I definitely will return to Best Western Bayside Inn the next time I visit San Diego. I visited San Diego with my 65-year old parents and 3-year old daughter in August. I did a LOT of research to find the right hotel before booking. I wanted to find a place with great reviews, a decent price (which I discovered is very hard to find in SD), a pool, convenient location, and a good breakfast. This place had all that. The hotel is walking distance of Little Italy (5 minute walk) and we got take out from a couple different places on India Street every night. The water is a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel. You can catch the ferry to Coronado there, visit the wharf, and ships. There is also a great kids playground on the way to the wharf, which my daughter really enjoyed. The pool was not heated, but we still managed to take a dip in the evening and it was find once you warmed up a bit. There's also a hot tub. The breakfast was a typical continental breakfast, but I found it to be a cut above most other breakfasts at similar restaurant chains. The only downsides were that the room was a bit small (if we had been 4 adults I think it would have felt pretty squished), and there was an $18/night parking fee. However, the parking fee was a lot cheaper than other hotels, and I felt worth it in the end. The service at the hotel was great. Very friendly, nice staff. GREAT FIND!

« Best western plus bayside inn »

Excellent value for money. Clean and comfortable with friendly and helpful staff. Ideally situated for the waterfront and a short walk into the centre. Very close to the railway station and the hotel provides curtesy transport from/to the station and the airport.

    5
    « Great Experience »

This hotel was a great place to stay overall. The one thing we were not crazy about was the not so comfy bed. Other than that, we had a wonderful stay. It was in walking distance to most things in downtown San Diego. When the walk was too far, we got an uber. The breakfast selection was great and left us satisfied for hours. We would definitely stay here again.

    4
« Weekend in San Diego »

We chose this hotel because of its location, a short walk from the water front and close to Little Italy. Our room was a good size, comfy beds and soft towels. We also had a harbour view. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The pool is good and sheltered from the sun. Breakfast was good, and a good choice available.

    5
    « Great Service ! »

Free shuttle from cruise port, did not expect an early check in which was great. Spacious , clean room , free breakfast and shuttle to airport, made our stay enjoyable from start to finish . Three block walk to harbor and sightseeing kiosks. Great service , from front desk to housekeeping to shuttle drivers .

    4
    « Brilliant »

Great hotel. Clean fresh rooms, fridge at no extra cost. Balcony for relaxing. Swimming pool area, gym and location good with Little Italy on your doorstep, Breakfast included too and it was brilliant. Staff, exceptional particularly in the breakfast room. Good choice would most definitely return.

    4
    « Worthwhile Hotel - A Bit Pricey!! »

Hotel is very clean, and the staff are friendly although seemed to have trouble calculating the bill when I wanted to apply a voucher for a free night stay using my Reward Points. The room itself was very amazing!! Clean and well-kept when we arrived with a comfortable bed and little to no noise issues. Also, the specific room that we had had a nice view of San Diego and the water. Only issue that I ran into was the price of the room for the little time that my boyfriend and I actually spent there, and the issue with the bill calculation and Reward Points. If you can swing it financially, it's a worthwhile pick because it's within walking distance of good attractions. Otherwise, find a cheaper hotel with less fees and taxes charged to the bill.

« The perfect budget solution for convention »

This hotel provide the best experience to budget travellersthat attend meeing at the SDCC. The green trolly, few blocks away and if you rely on their schedule (with many changes)- takes you to the SDCC in 6 minutes.

    5
    « Great Place »

This hotel is within walking distance to Little Italy, just cross the street and up India Street. The USS Midway, cruise ship ports, and tour boat rides were close to one another. A little further are the shops and restaurants of Seaport Village. The room was clean and spacious along with the friendly staff. I thought it was the perfect location.

    3
    « Very noisy »

We had a room facing the street. The garbage truck comes before dawn. The hotel itself is close to all the action and would visit again but ask for a quiet room away from the ice machine, elevators and not facing the street.

    5
« Great hotel with a great location »

The Bayside Inn is only 3 blocks away from Santa Fe station, so from here you can take the Trolley and move around San Diego, you can even take the Amtrak to Disneyland in Anaheim. The hotel is super clean, great pool, huge room with coffee/tea machine, comfortable beds and includes hot breakfast (note that the menú is exactely the same every day). Little Italy is walking distance and Horton´s plaza is 10 blocks away! Can´t Miss it!

    « Great Stay »

This is our second time staying at this hotel. This is a great value for your money to stay in downtown. We stayed in the bay view room which has a nice view of downtown and the bay. I can see in the near feature that the bay view will be obstructive by the high rise that is being built in front. Hotle offers a free breakfast which has lots of options. The room was very spacious and everything was in working order. This is a good hotel to stay at if you want to stay in downtown SD for an affordable price.

    3
    « Disappointed »

Booked this hotel several months ago, on-line through the BW website. Asked for a quiet room with a view, early check-in if available. We were given a room when we checked in early, however, it was on the second floor and although quiet, had virtually no view. Disappointing! The room had a king bed and two nightstands on one wall, placed close to the wall, leaving a large empty space on the other side. Maybe a chair used to be placed there and it was removed. A chair would have been nice though. Room was clean and everything seemed to function, although there is no bathroom fan. One should be installed. The breakfast was ok, standard fare. The staff at breakfast was very good, attentive and always checking to make sure things were fresh and in ample supply. The staff was less than stellar in the hotel itself. Several employees need some training on their people skills, especially the front desk gentleman that checked us out. Did not ask how our stay was, did not say thank you - come again, have a nice day. Nothing! And we will probably not be back. Location of this hotel is good for activities in the downtown area, however, there are a lot of choices in San Diego and public transportation is very manageable.

    5
« Excellent in all respects »

Had to rate this a 5 because it was an extremely good stay. Of course it is not a 5 star on world standards but for my visits anywhere in the U.S., it couldn't be beat. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Room care and amenities were top notch and meticulously done. Room and bed extremely comfortable. Large sliding glass door to let in the great San Diego fresh air. Located next to Little Italy, a terrific neighborhood to dine and shop. The breakfast was served in a restaurant next door, buffet style, with excellent selection and quality of hot and cold food items. Can't imagine a better place for the price. Very close to transportation (Santa Fe depot, trolley stop Little Italy, America Plaza). My go to place for San Diego trips.

    5
« Perfect hotel before cruise »

Because we were going on a cruise through the Panama Canal which left from San Diego we wanted a hotel fairly close to the port. Best Western Bayside was perfect: shuttle from airport, shuttle to port, good location for sight seeing, quiet, delicious breakfast. We could see our ship from the room!

    1
    « No towels! »

So I've already reviewed this hotel, but seriously, what's the deal with the poor housekeeping service? Our room was "cleaned" (all they did was fix the bed) but they literally only left two small washcloths for us and took all the dirty towels. I had to ask for towels (yet again) and even then, we received two bath towels and one hand towel. Side eye.

    5
« This hotel has the lot! »

We stayed here for 2 nights on a tour of California. This hotel is in a great central location just 5 mins walk from the sea front, where all the bars & Restaurants are. Hotel is clean, rooms are very nice. Lovely linen, bathroom, great bed. 50" TV etc. Staff are great. Breakfast was really impressive. They call it a continental, it was more like a full English to us, albeit its help yourself buffet style. The bar is nice. It has a small fitness room and a small but very nice pool and hot tub/spa bath. Couldn't fault this place. Highly recommended!

« Great stay in San Diego »

Good location, close to public transport, Little Italy for restaurants, waterfront. We had a room on 12 floor with a great view of the waterfront. Very comfy beds, fridge, microwave, coffee machine, ironing board and iron, hairdryer. Staff very friendly and good breakfast. They even had rice and miso soup as well as the usual buffet breakfast. There is a tourist office inside Santa Fe station with lots of useful information. We used trolley and bus to get around San Diego and across to Coronado Island. We didn't have time to use the pool or jaccuzzi but they were open until 11pm.

    4
« Great Location by the Bay »

The best feature of this hotel is it's location right by the bay, a couple of blocks away. It is well within walking distance of the USS Midway, the Maritime Museum and Little Italy. Parking right beside the hotel is a very reasonable $18 a night, unlimited in and out. Checking in was very efficient and the entire staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are typical Best Western Plus standards. Very comfortable. There is a very good free buffet breakfast with hot entrees included. We will definitely stay here next time we are in San Diego.

    « Fabulous location »

Having been to San Diego before and staying further up in the city we knew we would like to be closer to the bay and also to the transit links this time . This place is just perfect for that. We were literally on top of the Santa Fe station from where we could go anywhere and also the bay . We could be on the waterfront in five minutes! We had a room on the twelfth floor and when we walked in we had the most amazing view of the bay and over to Coronado. We were delighted. Our room was lovely , very spacious and well appointed with a huge bed and a wall of glass with our view. The room was very clean and tidy and had everything we could possibly need. Coffee machine etc. We were very close to everything we needed . Little Italy was across the road and we could walk to the Gaslamp district in twenty minutes. We used Santa Fe almost every day as we took the Coaster train out to Oceanside and Encinitas and we used the transit service daily too. It was a short walk down to the end of the tracks away from the main building and we were home. Breakfast is served in the hotel restaurant which is just along the street so you do have to leave the hotel to get it but that was no hardship. We found a good variety of hot and cold food and good coffee. Certainly enough to set us up for our day. We would always stay here if we visited San Diego for sure

Good location with nice decor and clean rooms. Bed was very comfortable. Parking felt secure and very convenient. Breakfast was close by, but slightly limited selection. Would stay here again if ever in San Diego.

« Great Location for all Attractions »

Stayed here for four nights. Our room would have had a harbour view if it had been a bit higher up. The beds were comfortable and there was a one cup coffee maker that you could use to heat water to make tea. Breakfast is included, it alternated between bacon, scrambled eggs & pancake and ham scrambled eggs & potatoes. There was also cereals, pastries, waffles, fruit, yoghurt and toast, plus tea, coffee and juice. The pool and hot tub were nice and used until about 11pm. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was close to bus stops and not far to walk to the seafront. Would definitely stay here again if in San Diego.

« Nice position for a city break »

We stayed in the BW Plus Bayside for 4 nights in August. For us the hotel was in a great position. It was a short walk from the Sante Fe station, a short walk to the Westfield Mall and the Gaslight Quarter, a very short walk to Little Italy and a 20 minute walk from Petco Park. We took a bus to the San Diego Zoo from the Sante Fe station. San Diego is a lovely city for sightseeing and getting around easily. The hotel was lovely, we had a room overlooking the harbour. The bed was large and very comfortable. The pillows were also good. It was always clean. Breakfast is served in the next door restaurant and we found this to be good. Always got a table. The buffet items were plentiful and we have no complaints. It saved us trying to buy breakfast at extortionate rates elsewhere. The staff were all happy and helpful. We would stay here again the next time we visit.

    « Great downtown location »

Do not let the appearance of the hotel outside scare you (it did scare me since it looks so old). It is an old building, but it has been kept up very well with good decor in the lobby, rooms and pool. The location is perfect for walking everywhere and you must go to lunch or dinner at Petrini's across the street - so good! The parking is very reasonable at 18 a night - other hotels in area go up to 40. The breakfast is fine for carb lovers, I wanted more healthy fare. Service is great and price good. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. Just be aware, there is construction going on next door for about two years (only during 8 -4 so did not bother us too much). Highly recommend!

« Free shuttle to cruiseship and airport »

Booked this hotel cuz they offered free shuttle pick-up from/to cruiseship terminal and airport. Either location, takes about 5-10 minutes. Shuttle bus is a 12 passenger van. Walking distance: to trolleybus, Little Italy (5 mins),USS midway (15 mins), Gastown Quarter (20 mins), Seaport Village (30 mins). Enjoyed the complimentary hot buffet breakfast (opens 6:30am). Nice pool/hot tub. Rooms had comfortable beds, lots of tv channels, great air con. Free wifi and printer. Friendly staff: some couldn't speak English fluently but they tried and were very helpful. Parking is $18/night, we didn't need it. Hotel let us check in early cuz our room was ready, and let us store luggage on our last day. Looks like the high-end hotels are near Seaport Village but BW Bayside Inn is better value. both neighbourhoods had a few homeless sleeping on the streets at night.

    « Great central location! »

We stayed here for 4 nights after a Disney cruise. The hotel is conveniently located a few blocks from the cruise ship terminal so it was easy to disembark and walk up to the hotel, thus avoiding the hassle of renting a car or waiting in a long line for a cab. We also loved that it was 3 blocks to Santa Fe transit station which had a stop for the 215 Express Bus that took us straight to San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park. The Santa Fe station is also a trolley station for the green line trolley that can take you to Seaport Village, the convention centre, etc. Aside from being close to transit, the hotel itself is clean and comfortable. Rooms were updated and everything was in working order. Staff at the front desk were always friendly and helpful. The hotel has a complimentary breakfast buffet which was basic, but had enough of a hot (scrambled eggs, sausages, pancakes, potatoes) and cold (cereals, breads, pastries) selection to get your day started. The hotel also has a complimentary shuttle that can take you to the airport. An added bonus for this hotel's location is its proximity to Little Italy (2 blocks away). We found some wonderful Italian restaurants and coffee shops. These lively few blocks offer great food, desserts, and entertainment. I highly recommend this hotel as it is close to transit and is in a reasonably quiet and safe neighbourhood.

« Nice hotel very friendly staff »

Stayed for 4 nights in August very clean great location and the staff were very sociable and friendly. Complimentary breakfast was of a good quality and standard. Rooms good size and everything you wanted. Coffee machine safe iron etc. I was a little concerned about having to pay for car parking thought it may have been included. However it would not stop me using it again. Very satisfied.

« Pleasantly surprised by this mid-range hotel »

Our expectations for this hotel were more than met. The front desk people were friendly and helpful (trying to find us a room when we arrived very early, fixing a printer issue while printing boarding passes, where to find a drug store, etc.) and the room was nice with a big bathroom with a big tub. There were also unexpected extras - washcloths made into a cute fan shape, cotton balls and Q-tips. Your room key card is required to get the elevator and we felt very safe here, plus this hotel is in a great central location with an easy short walk to the San Diego Harbor. Also, the free breakfast was very good with several choices (eggs, potatoes, cereal, fruit, yogurt, pastries, toast), plus each day you would also get a meat (either sausage or ham) and either toaster waffles or pancakes. The parking spaces on the bottom two rows of the garage were very compact, but we never had a problem getting a space and just went up to the higher rows with larger spaces. We were completely satisfied with our stay here.

« Simple, Inexpensive, Comfortable Hotel »

A little hidden gem in San Diego. This hotel is clean, modern, and simple. The staff was friendly. The location was convenient since we used ride sharing everywhere. Didn't have a chance to try the free breakfast though. The price could have been a little cheaper, but I understand that they have to stay competitive. Overall I'm happy with the Best Western product since I know what to expect each time I stay at one, and the Bayside Inn is a good example of what Best Western has to offer. I would stay again.

« Lovely San Diego Hotel - BW Bayside Inn »

We had a meeting in Carlsbad and decided to go down San Diego way after our meeting for the rest of the weekend. We didn't know the hotel was a high rise building, so we were pleasantly surprised. The location is not too far from the pier and is a very nice hotel, clean and modern. Go for a higher up room, if you can because there is a view of the ocean! We will go back!

    3
    « Hotel slightly pricey! »

The room had a part sea view which was ok. The room we stayed in needed a bit of decorating . Looking tired and dull. However it did serve the purpuse of an over night stay. Its located near little italy which is quite lively during the night.

    « Nice »

Clean quiet room with a beautiful of the harbor from the 9th floor, courteous staff, nice pool & jacuzzi. Easy walking distance to Little Italy, Gas Lamp District, Padres baseball, Seaport Village, Midway & Maritime Museums. Compared to several other hotels the least expensive daily parking fee.

    « The perfect spot.. »

We booked the Best Western Plus Bayside Inn in downtown San Diego because it promised a pleasant room and good facilities with a free breakfast and free shuttles from the airport and to the cruise port. Promises met, and then some! Our king bed room on the sixth floor with a view of the bay was clean, well equipped, comfortable, and quiet -- everything you'd expect of an urban hotel for an overnight as well as an extended stay. The staff are pleasant, helpful, and very competent, the shuttle rides were prompt and comfortable, and the buffet breakfast was ample and tasty. The hotel is located on the edge of "Little Italy," and it is an easy walk to the waterfront or to the "Gaslight District." Really, this is one of the best hotel choices we've made recently -- downtown location but reasonable prices, excellent value for the money, convenient to public transportation as well as to cruise port and airport. Just a great place to stay!

« Quaint friendly hotel a few blocks from pier »

We booked this hotel because it was moderately priced and near the airport and pier. We stayed for a few days before we boarded our Disney Cruise. We were picked up at the airport by the courtesy shuttle. Friendly driver and helpful with our bags. It's an older hotel but clean, tidy and close to everything such as the Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum. Lots of reasonably priced restaurants nearby. Staff were friendly and helpful (thank you Moi) with helping us with getting tickets and transportation for going to the San Diego Zoo. The buffet breakfast (included) lots of variety including hot food, cereals, fruit, etc. Real scrambled eggs and real home fries! Felt secure too with elevator access only to key access. Rooms have safes. Comfortable beds with lots of pillows. Would highly recommend this.

« By Little Italy and the Water Front »

We stayed at the Bayside and had many amenities at our feet. We love Little Italy, the Gaslamp District, the Water Front, and Petco Park to see the Padres. If you are unable to walk the 20 min. to the Park, the trolley is 2 blocks away. Comfortable room with an ample breakfast, covered parking, and a swimming pool.....the roll away bed was not really comfortable but the queen bed were....

« Great value in a great city location! »

Great hotel and great value for a stay in an excellent location just minutes from the seaport area and a short walk to downtown! Room was big and very clean, we had a high floor overlooking the bay with a small balcony which was fab for early evening drinks over the bay! Complimentary breakfast each day is a nice touch and plenty of it. The pool area with jaccuzzi is cool after a long day sightseeing in this wonderful city! No complaints, would stay again!!

    « Stay Here »

I've stayed at many Best Westerns and this one might be one of the best. I was visiting San Diego beacause of the beaches. I went to Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, La Jolla Shores, and Ocean Beach. They were all less than 20 mins away. The staff was great, location was nice, and the breakfast was one of the best I've had. The rooms were a little outdated, but nothing too crazy. The bayside view was awesome. I will be staying here the next time I'm in San Diego. Thank you

« Nice hotel in a great location. »

We stay in this hotel whenever we come to San Diego. It is located just 2 blocks from our favorite part of San Diego, Little Italy. It is convenient to walk to restaurants and also to the waterfront. The rooms are nice and well appointed.

    « Excellent budget-friendly hotel »

My husband and I stayed at this Best Western in June 2016. The thing we loved most about it was the location! Just a few blocks from the water, and you could stroll all the way down to Seaport Village and back! Everything else was a short Uber ride away. The hotel was nice and clean (though furnishings seemed a tad dated to us, clean was all we cared about), service was excellent, the pool area was lovely, and breakfast was free. We weren't huge fans of the breakfast quality, but there was a lot of variety. The roundtrip airport transportation was a great perk as well. We would definitely stay here again!

    5
« Comfortable, affordable stay within easy, safe walking distance to convention center »

NIcely updated rooms with internet, good price, and only about a mile to the convention center - just 15-20 minute nice walk there (no need to trolley). If you like being away from the crowded convention center area, in a quieter area near Little Italy, like to walk in the city and like comfort at a good price, this place is for you.

    5
    « Very nice hotel »

So happy with this hotel. Very large room especially in the city. They have a fridge and microwave and safe in the room. Everything was updated and very clean. Free Wi-Fi. Close to bay and Little Italy. Free breakfast buffet was in the adjoining restaurant instead of in a corner of the lobby. That was nice. There was a small but nice outdoor pool. Lobby was pretty and staff was friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend and stay here again.

    « Mission bay holiday »

Great hotel for the price. Great central downtown location, easy to get around the area without being tied up in traffic. Would stay again. Good breakfast too. Saves time and economical option rather than taking children out to Mc Donalds in the morning.

    « AADE16 conference trip »

This place is has a hotel shuttle, front desk staff was friendly and helpful..they called taxi service for us. Room was cleaned daily. They have a pool. We had breakfast daily. Located 3 blocks away from Little Italy and Trolley. They had pool and hot tub. AC in room, as well as fridge and microwave.

    « GREAT LOCATION »

We spent 3 nights at BW Plus Bayside Inn. Great location. Walkable to Seaport Village, The Midway, and Little Italy. Staff was super friendly and helpful with directions. Our room was clean and had everything we needed. The bed was extremely comfortable. We slept very well. No problems at all. We could not hear other guests, the elevators ran smoothly and quickly, and parking was no problem. Definitely will stay again when we are in San Diego.

    « Excellent stay »

My family and I stayed here on our recent trip to San Diego. The staff was very helpful and nice. When we got to the hotel front desk staff gave us a smoking room as that was only room available. We requested a non smoking room. The front desk staff said they move us to a non smoking room as soon as it became available. Well the front desk guy worked really fast as he had a non smoking room available in just 10 minutes of checking in. So we never had to stay in the smoking room. There are excellent views of the bay and my kids really loved to look out of the window and see the star of India. Driving to the zoo and Balboa park was a short drive. The hotel is a short walk to all the Little Italy restaurants. Great hotel and great location.

« Top notch in all areas »

The friendly staff accommodated our request for an early check in. Room 509 was large, bright and clean with a view of the pool and the bay. It even had a small balcony. Little Italy was a short walk away. We used Uber for all our other trips. Such a good location!

Lovely hotel in a great location. Was pleasantly surprised by the hotel. The staff were nice, rooms were big/clean and the swimming pool was lovely too. The free coffee in the room was really nice. I'd have no issue with going back if I were in San Diego again.

    « Great Hotel Staff »

We stayed at this hotel in February for our winter get away from the South Dakota weather. What a wonderful experience we had! The hotel staff was so pleasant, helpful and always willing to make sure our stay was the best ever. The rooms were very clean too. The location of this hotel is also a big plus.. You are steps away from Little Italy, the harbor, etc. We would highly recommend this hotel for your San Diego visit. Tell Mr. Moises I sent you!

« Great Location near the waterfront in San Diego »

My husband son and I stayed here recently for 3 nights. The room itself was reasonably sized although the bathroom was a little cramped. we had a fridge and microwave in the room and there are ice machines on alternate floors. We also had a small coffee maker. Our room had a very small balcony overlooking the pool. Although it was anon smoking room - there was an interconnecting door to another room where the occupants were smoking and we could smell their smoke - it was also quite noisy when they were in their room banging doors and loud laughter etc. The room was lacking in socket outlets and there is no central lighting so it is quite dark when the drapes are closed buy we were overlooked by the car park so had to close them. the pool does not get much sun and is quite cool. Breakfast is served in a restaurant next door to the hotel. It is continental style with a random selection of hot items. Parking is secure and charged $18 per day. However, it is a short walk away from the Harbour & USS Midway Museum. Overall a good hotel in a good location.

« Great hotel and fab restaurant »

This is a great hotel. Very convenient and easy parking. Breakfast is adequate and is served in the restaurant just a few steps from the main hotel. Their evening food is amazing and I had the best steak I've ever had. They don't open in the evenings on weekends. Our room was clean and the balcony was nice to have for fresh air and the view to the boats. We would definitely stay here again.

« Great location, nice room »

Our family of four stayed for 2 nights over the 4th of July. Five minute walk to the action at the harbor, 1 minute walk to Little Italy. Good breakfast (eggs, sausage or bacon, waffles or pancakes each day). Room was clean, big enough. Very helpful staff. Parking was expensive, but easy. Request a room that looks out towards the bay.

    5
« Great service with a fabulous resteraunt »

We were visiting from the UK and stayed here on our Californian road trip. On our 1st night we had a very insettled sleep due to noisy neighbours. The reception staff offered to move us straight away, however our youngest son was fast asleep. The staff were great and upgraded us to a suite the following day. I would definitely recommend asking the reception desk to check who was booked into the room next door if travelling with a young family though. The resteraunt was one of the best places we ate during our 3 week trip. Absolutely wonderful food. We'd definitely stay here again.

« San Diego beaches for the weekend! »

The beds were comfortable and room was very clean. Pool and hot tub were nice. It is close to the beaches. The staff was very accommodating. The parking lot was well lit. Overall it was a very pleasant experience.

    « Stayed here for Comic-Con »

Excellent location, polite and accomodating staff. Great value for the price. Me and my dad (who is a cartoonist) stayed at this hotel during the recent 2016 San Diego Comic-Convention International trade show. The beds are soft, there were a ton of pillows, the shower was always full of hot water, the walls insulated so it was never hard to fall asleep, and the continental breakfast was top notch. I would recommend this hotel to any professionals that need to visit downtown San Diego for work. For those on vacation, it offers a view of the bay, and is close to the marina as well as the SD opera, and several shopping centers.

    « BED BUGS--DO NOT STAY HERE! »

IT IS CHEAPER THAN OTHER HOTELS FOR A REASON! An affordable rate should not mean it is okay to get eaten alive by bugs. It takes a lot for me to complain, but the lack of customer service on top of my complaint just tops it all off... I currently sit at home and soothe my BED BUG BITES. The morning after our first night I felt irritation in the middle of my back. I scratched it not knowing what it was, and OUCH! I asked my husband to look and he told me it looked like a rash. The next morning I felt irritation on my back in a different area. I started to think my skin was getting irritated from the ocean/sand. Third night we slept, woke up and noticed bump on my chest! I made my husband take some pics of the two different areas of irritation on my back.. Sure enough, BED BUG BITES! I couldn't have left quicker !!! I brought it up to management and she completely denied that I was bit there, and said to look one of the other places I visited! WHAT?!?! I was bit in different places each night, and the only place I was at every night was this dirty, cheap, bug infested hotel!! Next time I will pay the extra $$ and stay somewhere nicer. On top of the bugs, they charged $18 a night for parking. Our car was dented because they made the parking spots TINY and it did not even have enough spots to cover all hotel guests, so the public parking garage was the next option (which was actually better at $17/night). Just avoid this place altogether!!

    « MODERN & COMFORTABLE »

We recently stayed in San Diego and had an opportunity to say at this lovely hotel~ Clean rooms~ Quiet hotel. Not a lot of people going thru the lobby~ Breakfast was very nice (simple) located in their Café/restaurant~ If you wish to go towards the water where all the restaurants/bars are? you will need to walk roughly 15 minutes~ It was a nice walk during the day. But, at night, it get's a bit daunting walking back to hotel~ Nevertheless, the Hotel was very nice and I would come back if the opportunity came up.

    « BED BUGS!! »

I gave two stars bc of the location. Location was close to everything. We were able to visit a few different beaches, the zoo, have dinner in the Gaslamp District and watch our SF Giants play at Petco park. Everything was either a 15min drive away or cheap cab ride! HOWEVER it was all ruined as I now sit at home and soothe my BED BUG BITES. The morning after our first night I felt irritation in the middle of my back. I scratched it not knowing what it was, and OUCH! I asked my husband to look and he told me it looked like a rash. The next morning I felt irritation on my back in a different area. « Family vacation »

I have to say our stay was fantastic! From the moment we walked into the front desk to the time we walked out 3 days later to go home! The hotel staff were all very wonderful! I made a very special request in our reservation and it was met by the General Manager, Jim! Him and his staff far exceeded our expectations for our stay. My Mom requested a bath mat for the tub at check in and they did not have one on site, the manager personally went to store, purchased one and had it in my Mom's room prior to us returning from getting dinner. Jim also fulfilled my special request when I booked our rooms, which I mentioned earlier. My request was to have our towels shaped into elephants on our bed at check in! He went as far as taking the time to watch a you tube video and shaped our towels into, not one but two, elephants!!! You get a 10 star Jim!!! The kids loved the elephants!! We will be back! Signed, The Elephant Lady Michele T.

This was a nice hotel, perfect location for a San Diego vacation - close to Sea Port Village, Coronado Island, Gaslamp District, Sea World, airport, trolley. Not a very spacious lobby, or places to "hang out", but the buffet breakfast was excellent, and the service was always efficient and provided with a smile.

« Best Western Plus Bayside Inn - ESRI UC 2016 »

Overall, a very good place to stay on business. It's close enough to walk to the convention center or the gaslamp. Despit being on a major street and near the trolley line, I could hear neither from my room.

« Great location friendly service »

Checked in easily with a friendly welcome. Excellent location with the maritime museums just a block away on the harbour. Bayside restaurant next door for included breakfast also for evening meals. Nice clean pool area with comfy sofas and recliners. Small gym area if required although don't try and swing a cat lol Great bars and restaurants starting 25 yards across the road and beyond, good safe area. Rooms very clean in great condition with usual best Western comfort. We were on the top floor with great views. We would sure stay again. Hope this review is helpful

    « Great view »

Stayed in room 705 which had a great view towards the bay. Very comfortable bed. Terrible SD TV quality and no way to select the correct aspect ratio. People expect HD these days. Wi-Fi was good. Parking was $14/night. All in all the hotel was much better than expected from the reviews. Great location very close to Little Italy.

    « MLB All-Star weekend & all-star hotel »

Admittedly made this reservation back in March in advance of the big all-star game weekend in San Diego, but of all the hotels in San Diego we couldn't have been more fortunate than to stay in this best western! The location might be "downtown San Diego but we walked to our dinner reservation (Flemings Primerib and Steakhouse) and FanFest at the convention center in less than 20 minutes. The bonus was being two blocks from Waterfront Park where many events were taking place, Little Italy was a few blocks over, the trolley was nearby (walking distance) and the harbor view from our room was breath-taking! Must have been spectacular Fourth of July! We are from San Diego and found this hotel not only to be an amazing location but a fabulous cost (and it includes a breakfast that we unfortunately couldn't take advantage of due to an early morning commitment)! Staff was more than pleasant and helpful. Two thumbs up! Well Done!????

    « Very comfortable stay! »

This was our first stay at Best Western Bayside and we were very happy! The buffet was really good and enough food to keep us satisfied for a good portion of the day. We had a great view of the city and the staff was very pleasant. We will be back!

    « Great stay »

Chose this hotel as it was within walking distance to my conference and because of the great price. I was happy to find it only 3-4 blocks easy walk down to the water and a walk along the harbor. Little Italy was a block away as well. Great food and sights within easy reach. Breakfast included with the room is always a plus for me. Room very nice. Desk staff helpful with my questions about a car rental and providing helpful advice. Would definitely stay here again.

    « Restful stay »

« Great Location, Great Deal »

Right smack in between Little Italy and Gas Lamp - great dining choices - all walking distance. Parking is $18/day (reasonable). Buffet Breakfast comes with the price. Front desk personnel are friendly and accommodating. Got a bay view room on the 12th floor. Got to see the fireworks (July 4) from our balcony. Will definitely stay there again!

    « All went smoothly »

Easy to find, we had no trouble locating the hotel and parking is good. Hotel staff were professional and friendly. We only stayed one night our room was clean and comfortable. We booked this hotel as it is walking distance to the USS Midway. It's also close to Little Italy and the place of my favourite meal in America.

    4
    « Good Location »

We stayed here for 2 nights while exploring San Diego. Cons: On the day we checked in, the street in front of the hotel and to the parking lot was temporarily closed for a race. It was not reopened until 5 that afternoon. So we couldn't get to the hotel to check in. This was a planned event, so it would have been helpful if the hotel would have notified arriving guest about the closure in advance. Instead we had to waste time nearby, waiting for the street to reopen. The hotel was a bit on the older side and one of the elevators was broken during our stay. Since we were on the 11th floor, we spent a lot of time waiting for the elevator. We ended using the stairs for most trips down. On our second day, our room hadn't been cleaned while we were gone. We left that morning and got back around 3:00. The maid service did call asking to clean our room, but we declined because we were too tired to leave. The dining room for breakfast is outside the hotel, in the next building. Each room was issued a voucher for the number of guest. This made it inconvenient for families to go at different times, or to bring breakfast to the room. Pros: The location was great. It was in walking distance to the USS Midway, the bay, and to numerous restaurants. Also, it was in close driving distance to the zoo and Seaworld. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean. There was access to computers and a printer. Breakfast was plentiful and restocked as necessary. Overall, we had a great time in San Diego and would stay here again. I believe several of the issues we faced, would not have been a problem had we come a different week.

« Good location and good deal »

We stayed here for 3 nights as a family of 4. We had a 2 queen room (Room 611) with a bay view. I would have loved to have been a little bit higher, however, we had a nice view. One elevator was not working which made wait times VERY long sometimes. The rooms are not that large, but ok size. There is not an additional sink outside of he bathroom which makes getting ready in the morning interesting with 4 adults. Parking was $18/night in the parking deck - when I booked he room, it was $14/night and could not get the difference when I checked in. On the plus side, you can walk to the bay and the USS Midway area. Little Italy is just down the street a couple of blocks with a LOT of eating options. The little balcony and sliding door was very nice. The pool area was nice as well. It is 6 feet at the deepest. My son got in trouble for jumping on that end, which I didn't agree with. He was not diving, however, I did tell him to not jump in (no one else was in the pool at the time to get annoyed with splashing). Overall, it was a good stay with a few minor hiccups.

« Best Western PLUS Bayside Inn, San Diego »

This hotel is conveniently located near downtown, and withing walking distance to the red trolley, the maritime and USS Midway museums, the cruise ship terminal and Little Italy. It's 2 stops away from the Gas Lamp District on the red trolley for $2.50 each way. The rooms were clean and we had a great view of the pool and the bay. Both elevators were working and the wait was short. The breakfast was typical fare for a Best Western but presented well and all items were fresh and hot. We were greeted each time we walked through the lobby area. There is an $18.00 per day parking fee with in and out privileges although once the car was parked we either walked or used public transportation to get around. All in all a great hotel in a great area of San Diego for sightseeing and nightlife. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.

    « Usually Great Facility »

One elevator was not working during this stay I had 2 rooms, one on the 13th floor the other on the 14th floor. It took an average of 8-13 minutes to get up and down. One time it took 23 minutes to get downstairs. The hotel did adjust our room rate because of the inconvenience. This was very much appreciated. Another issue this stay was problems with the internet for over a day and a half. I have requested for additional compenstation in the form of "Bonus Points" We will see if they grant those and will let all know. This is a very great value hotel and we will stay there again.

    « Excellent for a quick stay! »

Had but one night as I was enroute from the west to the midwest, and grabbed a room here (via hotwire) because it had an airport shuttle and was close to the tram. The room was large, well-set-up, comfortable, and had an absolutely astonishing free breakfast buffet. Real food, well-made, and ... FREE! The walk from the tram stop was longer than anticipated, but not all that bad. There's still but one working elevator.

    « Downtown with a View »

My overall experience with this hotel was great. I stayed here for 6 days on business. Its an older hotel but very clean and the location with bay view is awesome. The employees were very welcoming and helpful. I had room on 14th floor, with balcony facing bay, just beautiful (odd number rooms have the bay view). The room was spotless, the bed very comfortable. During my stay I ordered room service several times, breakfast delicious. They do offer free breakfast in restaurant. Fee for parking $18 day, basic for this area. The only complaint I have is the elevators. One was broke the entire time I was there and on my last night the second one was down also, leaving me stuck on the 14th floor and late for work. I enjoyed my stay and would definitely go back.

    « Bad experience »

We had booked 2 rooms,. requested adjacent rooms. At check in, the receptionist laid out 2 sets of room keys with adjacent room numbers on it. As she was collecting the car information, the other receptionist said she cannot give us those rooms, they have been assigned to another customer! The room keys had numbers assigned to them already and she was ready to give them to us! We stayed 2 nights, one elevator was not working the ENTIRE time we stayed. Friday afternoon through Sunday! It turns out that the entire hotel has 2 elevators, and since 1 didn't work, the entire fully booked hotel full of guests, and the hotel service staff all have to rely on this ONE working elevator! You would think in a hotel this size, that they would make every effort to repair the broken one. The line to take the elevator to our 11th floor was 15 minutes each time. When we checked out on Sunday, the line was even longer as others were also checking out. We ended up taking our suitcases and took 11 flights of stairs down to the lobby. We informed the receptionist and she just laughed, thought it was funny we did that!!!!!!! I was disgusted that no apologies of inconvenience was offered, nothing. The fact that the receptionist had poor customer service and the hotel has serious safety liability with only ONE operating elevator for the entire weekend of our stay, it is UNACCEPTABLE! The hotel charges $18 per car for their guests to park their car! The parking lot is very tight and many customers have large cars, therefore making it unsafe and impossible to park within the parking space. This resulted in us not being able to find a parking spot and having to circle the parking lot several times waiting for someone to leave their space. SO WRONG! Needless to say we will not be returning to this hotel in a hurry at our next visit to San Diego!

    « Great location »

Excellent location, bordering Little Italy and approximately 3 blocks to the ocean (sightseeing boats, USS Midway, etc) and walking distance to the Gas Lamp District. The hotel and pool/hot tub are very clean. We stayed in a room on the 10th floor with 1 queen bed, chair & desk and a view of the ocean. The hallways are a little dingy and tired looking, but our room was in good condition. The bed & pillows were extremely comfortable. We had immediate hot water in the sink & shower, however, we had an issue regulating the water temperature in the shower... it wasn't horrible, just annoying. Complimentary hot and cold breakfast items are served in the building next door, so you do have to go outside, but it wasn't a problem. The breakfast staff were friendly & helpful. The hotel front desk staff were not rude, however, they could have been more welcoming and friendly. We booked our room online through the hotel website and ended up being overcharged at checkout. They did refund the overage after I pointed it out and showed the confirmation paperwork. We were able to check into our room early and they locked up our luggage after checkout since our flight was later in the day. We would stay in this hotel again.

« Nice Hotel in a Great Location »

We stayed at this hotel for a 3 day pre cruise visit in San Diego. It was a very nice and very clean hotel in a modern concrete and glass city center style. The public rooms and lobby were small in size but usable. The very nice complimentary breakfast room was actually in the adjoining building. Each morning you stepped out the front door and walked 50 paces to the corner to find the lovely "restaurant" that served breakfast. The Big Plus of this hotel is its location. It's a 4 block walk to the Bayside tourist attractions and the Hop On Hop Off Tour Bus stops 1 block from the hotel.

« Rip off. Overpriced, bad services »

For the price you pay, this old and worn out hotel is way overpriced. The beds are comfortable but EVERYTHING is worn out. The single lift to service customers and staff are completely unacceptable. Took too long to wait in queue, generally 15 mins waiting. Faster to walk down 11 flights of stairs with luggage then to wait for the lift. Insufficient details provided about customer parking facility. The several stairway access needs better explanation. Breakfast was ok. Not the same standard as other best westerns I've stayed in.

    « Excellent value »

This hotel is excellent value and is very convenient for the seafront, maritime museums, and the USS Midway. It is also close to Little Italy, and the old gas lamp district is walkable. There is a tram system close by, so travelling around is easy and convenient

Great hotel, convenient location, awesome staff. Everyone went out of their way to make our stay very comfortable. The manager was especially helpful but all the staff are professional and friendly. It will be even better when the second elevator is repaired.

Best Western Bayside Inn, San Diego has an excellent location for visiting San Diego. The rooms had everything we could want, beds comfortable! Dining selections within easy walking distance....plus transportation within easy walking distance. Would definitely select this location again.

« Above and beyond in the perfect location »

Stayed here for the RnR San Diego Marathon in early June. Booked through AMEX travel and got a better deal than through the hotel itself. Hotel has been renovated fairly recently. Part of the attraction was a shuttle from the airport so we didn't have to rent a car (with a trolley station close in case we needed to go farther than planned). What wasn't mentioned was that you need to call and ask for the shuttle; it's not an automatic rotation at the SAN airport. The shuttle driver wasn't on duty when I finally figured that out, and they told me to take a cab and they'd reimburse (which they did). Bonus - the cab driver told me about the Kebab Shop and I enjoyed two AWESOME lunches there. Room temp was great and the thermostat worked properly. My friend was kept awake by sirens throughout both nights, but I didn't hear them. Breakfast was adequate, though not many options for a gluten free diet, so manage your expectations if that's an issue for you. Staff was friendly, efficient, and helpful. Special kudos to Moises and the housekeeper working the 11th floor for finding my favorite earrings and working hard to return them to me. Pool was small but clean, and sheltered from the wind. Water was c-c-c-cold. One elevator was out of service which sometimes made for slow treks up and down; hopefully that has been repaired now. For the price, the location and experience could not have been better. Will definitely stay her again if I need to return to the area.

« Comfortable, good location for the waterfront and little italy »

We stayed a few nights here. Car parking on site was $18 per night, but easy and convenient. Room was spacious and comfortable, with all the usual conveniences. The free breakfast in the next-door restaurant was a little underwhelming - limited choice and average food, but that was the only thing we felt let the hotel down.

    4
« Comfortable hotel in a good location »

The hotel has comfortable rooms and offers a very good breakfast. It is well located, close the harbour, restaurant and shops ? easy to walk to most places you would want to see ? yet quite peaceful. Seaport Village, a lovely shopping area, was only a short walk away.

« Great Location and Good Value »

My wife and I stayed here for 4 days in April. We chose the hotel primarily for its prime downtown location next to Little Italy, free airport shuttle, and good price. The Bayside did not disappoint. We had a 2nd floor room overlooking the courtyard pool, and it worked nicely for our needs. The room was spacious, and I greatly appreciated the complimentary in-room wi-fi. My only complaint would be that the bed was a little too firm for my comfort level, and the pillows too squishy, but that's really common at a lot of hotels I have stayed at; it's something I sort of come to expect. It's an older hotel, but it looks like it has been recently renovated. Both the lobby and our room was modern and fresh. I would stay here again in a minute.

« Fabulous hotel in a fabulous location »

Ideally located literally 2 blocks back from the Cruise Ship terminal & 1 block back from Santa Fe Rail Depot. Seaport village was a short walk from the hotel and so too were most transport links, including the ferry over to Coronado Island (which by the way is definitely worth a visit). The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included with our stay, which was really good and with plenty of variety. The rooms were good and we had 2 very comfortable Queen-sized beds. The hotel also provides a complimentary transfer to San Diego Airport, which takes about 5 minutes by shuttle. Thank you for a wonderful stay - we are planning to return in 2017 and will definitely stay at The Best Western Bayside again.

« Clean, good location, friendly staff »

We visited San Diego as part of our tour of California. The hotel staff were very friendly, the hotel clean and facilities very good. Our room was at the back overlooking the harbour and the bugle calls from the navy ships was lovely to hear. We especially enjoyed the star spangled banner being played by the bugle this morning, very fitting on Memorial Day weekend.

Well, nice room, well lit. Clean & comfortable. Complimenary hot breakfast at restuarant next door. Outdoor pool and hot tub. It was 18.00 to park but free shuttle to airport a plus. About three walking blocks from harbor. Nice and friendly hotel staff. Nice decor modern theme. However, rug in elevator needed cleaning. I know that is a small detail but to some evertything counts. « Great »

This was my first time staying here. My great experience started a few months before the stay when I booked the room online using AirMiles. After receiving my confirmation from AirMiles I realized I had been put in a smoking room (I didn't have the option to pick). I called the hotel right away to see if they could change me to a non-smoking one. Even though it wasn't their fault/issue, the gentleman who helped me was able to move me no problem. The team at the front desk was very helpful throughout the stay. The shuttle from the airport and to the cruise terminal was very handy. They even arranged for a taxi to pick me to take me to the zoo for an early morning tour. The breakfast was pretty limited options wise, but the service was decent. Overall the room was quite loud with traffic and construction noise, but the bed was very comfortable and the room was nice and clean.

    « Basic bit functional »

Had 5 night stay, for conference. Location is a bit distant to 5th St shops and cafes (15min walk), but close to small Italian restaurant precinct. Rooms compact and clean (nothing to be unhappy with). Breakfast very basic became monotonous day after day... With no variation, no fresh fruit/veggies. Overall good low cost hotel, if you don't need the glitz!

« Ok room, good breakfast, awful service »

My wife and I recently stated at this hotel prior to a cruise. It is in a good location near the cruise terminal. The room was clean and quiet, but what was lacking was the service. Upon arriving at the airport, after claiming our baggage, my wife called to request the shuttle to come pick us up as directed on their website. We were out at the curb within two minutes. After ten minutes the shuttle finally arrived. Upon exiting the vehicle, the driver immediately yelled at us saying he had circled three times already (which was false - we were watching the entire time and only saw him the one time we were picked up). Once at the hotel, we were checked in by a gentlemen with poor communication skills, who also tried to tell us we needed a voucher to check in, something that we have never required during previous bookings through Priceline. Upon check in, we stated that we were leaving for the cruise at the end of the stay. Nothing was ever noted so when we tried to check out, the manager was shocked that no one asked to schedule the cruise shuttle for us. He himself brought us to the terminal and he was the only useful staff member we encountered. The breakfast buffet was good, but I would give that up to stay at a hotel with more polite service. The room was clean, but the shower water was scalding, and the coldest we could set it to was still very hot. If you are going on a cruise, stay at the Windham - it's right across from the terminal.

« One night to many »

Came for one night, ended up having to wait longer for my "ship to come in" So one night or many, a great place to stay in the heart of San Diego and close to the harbour, little Italy, and the Gaslight district.

« Nice as can be for a 3-star hotel »

This place is a fantastic deal. It seems like the common areas have recently been renovated. The staff was absolutely wonderful and the amenities are pretty good. There is a hot tub, heated pool, fitness center, and continental breakfast. The breakfast was pretty standard, nothing special. My only complaint about this place is the cramped parking lot with no elevators. Otherwise my family and I truly enjoyed our stay and felt very comfortable here. I would definitely recommend it!

    « Brilliantly situated hotel »

Have stayed here recently for a few days, the hotel is brilliantly situated for the Gas Lamp district, the maritime museum, the USS Midway and Seaport Village. Good hotel, nice rooms, lovely staff and there was even a swimming pool and gym. Would highly recommend if only in town for a few days.

    « A nice stay »

I was impressed with how helpful the staff was. The room was clean and had hypo-allergenic pillows, so that was great. There's included hot breakfast, but you have to go outside to get to it, which was annoying when it rained in the morning. This hotel stretched my (small) budget, but seemed to be pretty good for the location in Little Italy and was walking distance to the gaslight district.

    5
    « Budget Friendly »

We stayed at the BW Bayside for 3 nights and found it friendly, comfortable and very accessible to the downtown area, Little Italy and the Bay area. The free breakfast was good and filled the void. We would stay there again, especially with complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport.

    4
« Clean, safe and convenient »

Stayed for a convention. Could walk to Gas Lamp, Seaport and Convention Center. Train Station 2 blocks. Super clean and comfortable. Best Pillows ever! The shower was super hot. In fact, they have a problem: it starts out boiling and you have to run the cold water for about 3 minutes to get it down to body temp. Not a problem, believe me.

Very comfortable, nice hotel. Within several minutes to Italian Market. A little far from gaslamp but we can walk to there. We can go anywhere from this hotel,so useful location. Parking space is also enough

« Very Modern with Excellent Location and Service, but the Breakfast was only Acceptable »

Just a few days ago (April 29th- May 5th), my wife and I stayed at this hotel. We found the location very convenient to visit some of the city attractions, such as; The Maritime Museum and the Midway Carrier. However, we needed to walk a few blocks to take buses or trolleys. Even though the area feels safe and is mostly clean, it is quite possible that anyone staying here will encounter some homeless people. Otherwise the hotel's location, close to Little Italy is good and convenient to visit San Diego. Our room was relatively large, well fitted with modern conveniences, and with a good bathroom. However, even though it was cleaned every day, we keep noticing some pieces of fluff on the carpet which apparently were always overlooked. We must mention that from our balcony, we had a very nice view of the sea and of the Star of India tall ship at the Maritime Museum. The service we received was excellent, every request of us was promptly met. There was however one aspect of this hotel that was not so good, the breakfast included in the price of the room. The breakfast items were not so appetizing, and in limited selection. Only three hot items were available, and with little change from day to day. In general, everything seemed to come out of packaged boxes. There were only two types of fresh fruit, and they were always the same. There seems to be a "low standard" for breakfast among Best Western Hotels. Just prior to coming to San Diego, we stayed at another BW hotel in Anaheim, were the breakfast ingredients were very much the same, including the fresh fruit, but the serving plates and utensils were all plastic and paper. At the Bayside we had at least real metal cutlery and more real plates (melamine ones). The coffee cups though were real ceramic. I would not hesitate to recommend the Bayside to anyone coming to San Diego, but I will make clear the aspects that I found somewhat unpleasant.

    « Excellent hotel »

The room was very clean and organized, the bed was very comfortable, the staff were very nice and cooperative, the shuttle service from the airport to the hotel is really amazing, and the bay side view from the 14th floor was amazing

« Accessible to everything in San Diego »

Located two blocks from the bay (which you can view from the upper floors) and very close to downtown and the entrance to Little Italy, This hotel is on my favorite list because of location, the free breakfast in a wonderful café and it is one of the cheapest to park your car ($14) in San Diego. Bus stops are close and the trolley is just a couple of blocks away so you can see the sights riding in some of the cleanest public transportation you will ever come across. The hotel is two blocks from the bay luncheon or dinner cruises that are great and from the aircraft carrier you can tour plus other attractions. Down in little Italy you can have great food at Burger Lounge (get a fabulous milkshake) or fine Italian food plus they allow your dog in most places. Diagonally from the hotel is a great Italian place that have some of the best individual pizzas you can eat and it is very friendly and relaxing. The hotel is pretty laid back but friendly but you do have to ask for some things to get what you need. The rooms are very nice but ask for upper floors facing the bay if you enjoy a great view. You get passes for a free breakfast from the restaurant outside on the corner and the food is very good and they keep it well stocked. There is a drugstore just a block away toward the bay on Ash street if you need supplies and free newspapers at the front desk every morning.

« Great Hotel - Friendly and Helpful Staff »

This hotel is highly recommended. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. The breakfast buffet was very well done. ( Although, I missed the waffle maker found at other Best Western buffets. The hotel restaurant served delicious and relatively inexpensive dinners. The room was clean, spacious and had all the amenities. The only problem that I had was tring to connect my Kindle Fire to the internet. I phoned the tech companty the hotel uses, several times and they were never able to resolve the problem. The pool and spa area was very nicely appointed.

« Great stay prior to cruise »

We haven't been to San Diego in probably 25 years so weren't sure where to stay. A friend suggested this hotel and we were not disappointed. It is very central to exactly what we wanted. We were going on a cruise and wanted somewhere convenient. The hotel staff is amazing-all very friendly and helpful. It started with the shuttle driver, Daniel, who picked us up at the airport. Very convenient. He made suggestions of where we could have lunch while our room was being prepared and we took his advice. The lobby was very nice-recently re-decorated. Had two computers if you wanted to use them and free wifi in your room. We also enjoyed the free buffet breakfast the next morning and it was very nice. We booked a king bay view room and it was great. Nice view and we could even see the ship we would be sailing on peaking through the highrise buildings. The room was spacious but I forgot to take photos. They had a nice desk and chair if you had a laptop to set up. I really liked that the lamps by the beside had an electrical plug in them (mainly because I use a CPAP machine and always have to hunt for plugs). The bathroom was also spacious. Safe in room.

    « Good with exceptions »

The good: Friendly staff and clean rooms. A very nice pool and jacuzzi A fitness center The bad: There is an unconnected parking structure next to the hotel where you are forced to park. The first few floors are for small cars only, so if you have an suv or large car you park at the top and walk stairs all the way down. There are no elevators and no walkways to the hotel. If you are older or handicapped without a California handicapped parking permit, you are forced to walk flights of stairs. Oh don't forget the $18.00 a day parking fee added to your room. Free breakfast just not in this hotel. Yes you get a free breakfast if you walk to the building next door. Again it's not connected to the hotel. They call this building a bar and grill. Lol Again they call the building next door a bar. Lol. It may as well be a kids juice bar as it is only open until 9:00pm. It closes to early for most grown ups looking for a real bar to relax in after a long day. Not within walking distance to attractions. The restaurants in the "gas lamp district" is a 23 minute walk each way. There is a trolley service but it's $7.00 per person per day to ride. Don't forget the homeless people you will encounter along the walk as I discovered on our first night. I would drive and pay to park. Again this hotel was good not great

« A great San Diego hotel for value, service and location »

I stayed at the Best Western Plus Bayside Inn from April 24 to April 28, 2016. I organized a college reunion and our group of 12 (college roommates from the 60's) had 7 rooms. We were all extremely satisfied with this hotel. The location near the harbor and Little Italy allowed us to walk to activities. The jacaranda trees on the street were in full bloom and views from both directions from our 10th floor rooms were terrific. The marvelous staff of the hotel was really helpful. I did extensive research on downtown hotels before choosing the Best Western and was completely pleased with my choice. This hotel is an excellent value and rooms and beds are comfortable. A hot breakfast with comfortable tables to sit was an added feature. This hotel is a great choice for downtown San Diego and I recommend it highly.

    « Great after Remodeling »

The hotel was convenient to the cruise terminal and local shopping. Front desk staff found me a local dentist for an emergency and I made my cruise on time thanks to their efforts. Hotel was clean, efficiently managed, great shuttle service to the cruise terminal.

    « Good location »

This motel is right next to Little Italy. We walked just a couple blocks to enjoy good food. Convenient to the waterfront as well as metro travel. Our room had two queen beds and a view of the city. The beds were comfy, had a frig and micro in the room. Staff was extremely friendly. We had a late flight out and were able to check out but leave our baggage in the office until we took the shuttle to the airport in the early evening. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

« I expected more for the money »

Pros: - Hotel was clean - Bed was fine Cons: - Hotel was very noisy. Could hear every door close, toilet flush, and conversation. My room was also facing the street so there was the noise from the street as well (even on the 3rd floor). - Room did not get very dark. Light from microwave, under door, and around blackout curtain - For the price I expected a higher level of finishes and luxury. - Breakfast was bland. Textures were all wrong. While the stay was not "bad" I just expected more from at $200 room. It felt more like an $85 room.

« Great Location near Little Italy »

Large room with comfortable beds. In room frig and micro. Our room had two queen beds with a sofa sleeper. Breakfast was included and was a step up from the ordinary! Staff was very accommodating and friendly. We had a later flight out and we were able to leave our luggage at a secure room while we enjoyed more of San Diego. The airport shuttle took us to the airport late in the afternoon. Worked out great for our schedule!

    « Great find! »

This was the first visit to San Diego. I was bringing my 12 year old there for spring break. Wanted a place close enough to sites (zoo, seaworld, uss midway) without spending a fortune on the hotel.Great location. Very clean. Great breakfast buffet. Great staff...really helped us with any question and provided hospitality! Would stay there again in a heartbeat!

    4
    « Great location »

We found this hotel to be just what we needed--great location, decent price, friendly staff. The breakfast was mediocre but in the genre of "included with moderately priced hotel" it was slightly above average. The free wifi was very reliable and fast. We would not hesitate to stay at the Bayside Inn again the next time we are in San Diego.

    5
    « Conscientious Staff! »

Nice hotel, nice pool area with comfortable seating for groups. Adequate hot breakfast buffet. Good location, close to the cruise port and the Santa Fa train station. A short 20 minute walk to the Gaslamp area. Disappointed the hotel had NO feather pillow!

    « Personal service »

Room and facilities were good. Clean and well maintained. We were meeting up with a small whale-watching tour group near the airport and needed a ride to a non-standard spot. Rather than having to get a cab, the shuttle driver happily scouted out the meeting place the day before and drove us there directly. Breakfast was plentiful and nicely done.

« Great Place To Stay »

We were here for a weekend getaway. Could not have been happier!! We arrived at the airport and followed the instructions to call for the shuttle...it arrived 20 minutes later with a very friendly driver who set the tone for our stay. Check in was super easy. When Horacio noticed that we weren't Best Western club members, he immediately did the application for us so we could begin earning points. We got to our room and it was perfect....on the 10th floor with a view of the Bay and harbor. The room was immaculate. Bed linens looked new, very comfortable bed with a microwave and frig. The bathroom even had extra towels with a hairdryer that was better than you'd find in hotels that cost 3 times more. Breakfast is included...again with very attentive and friendly staff. Don't think twice...book this!

    « Very Pleased »

We stayed at the BW+ Bayside for three nights following a cruise. Found the hotel perfectly situated for sightseeing in San Diego. Very close to waterfront attractions, restaurants, hop-on-hop-off trolley, train and transit station. Hotel offers complimentary shuttle to airport and cruise terminal - both just minutes away. Complimentary breakfast also. Very comfortable rooms. Heated outdoor pool and hot tub came in very handy after a day of walking around town. We would recommend this hotel easily. Jim D. Medford, MA

« Good location in San Diego »

The hotel is located very well, right by the Little Italy section of the city and a walking distance from the bay. The room was spacious and comfortable with a nice view of the city from the balcony. Seemed a bit odd that they had no laundry service and instead sent us to a place 20 minutes away, but overall, we were happy with our stay and would recommend the place, other than the price being a bit high and the charge they have for parking, which is high as well, but this seems to be the custom in San Diego.

« Great little hotel, ideal location »

Stayed here for a three night break in San Diego. Location was ideal, just a short walk to the harbour & USS Midway, and also just a mile from Little Italy in one direction, and about the same to the heart of the Gaslamp district. Room was basic but had all the essentials & decent cable TV. All staff were very friendly and helpful, and hotel even offers free shuttle bus to the airport. Would definitely recommend & will no doubt stay here again.

Great location near dock where cruise ship docks and near airport. So nice to have them come to the cruise ship to pick us up. Service was great, room clean, bed was comfortable to sleep in and a free hot breakfast. We were so happy to hear that they also take you to the airport. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who needed to stay at San Diego.

This is a fabulous hotel. Staff was wonderful at check in. Breakfast buffet had a tremendous amount of options for my family. The WiFi worked great for our multiple devices. This is right downtown and was within blocks of our Fight for Air Climb. We will definitely stay here again when were in San Diego even if we don't have to be downtown.

    « had a great time »

Everything was so great here. I would welcome the chance to go back. I love the view of the harbor. Breakfast saved us time and money. The pool area was really cool. I loved the view from our 14th story balcony. This hotel was walking distance from the train depot. Two blocks from the harbor and two blocks from little Italy. Perfect for us. Thanks to all.

« Good Location, Good View »

Staff were very helpful, provided early check-in and late check-out, saved storing baggage. Lent transport card, saved money. Room was spacious and had a view of the bay. Hotel was close to the Little Italy area and Saturday Market. Also close to the Bay and the Gaslamp area.

« Good location, friendly staff, breakfast blah! »

This hotel is in a good location for walking to multiple downtown locations. We had a 10th floor room with a great view of the Star of India and the bay. The room was plain but clean and the beds were comfortable. The staff were friendly at the front desk. The shower was terrible! No pressure and the temperature fluctuated so greatly you would almost get scalded. The pool area was slightly below average. The pool was over chlorinated and the hot tub definitely needed cleaning. The train tracks near by could be noisy at night. The free breakfast was not good, luke warm sausages, hash browns and scrambled eggs were down right gross. The blueberry muffins and coffee however were good. The restaurant staff were friendly as well. The wi-fi was also not fantastic. Overall you get what you paid for but definitely room for improvement.

    « Great Location »

My daughter and I had a room with 2 queen beds on 5th floor. The location is great, we could walk to the Bay, Little Italy etc.. Breakfast was included at the Restaurant next to the Hotel. Staff were particularly helpful and friendly. Considering the Hotel location, it was very quiet. We were able to use a suitcase trolley to take our luggage to our room.

    « Great Location! »

This motel is in a great location for heading out to explore all that San Diego has to offer. We were less than a mile from the USS Midway Museum and only a few minutes from Mount Soledad. The motel was very clean, staff was helpful, and the buffet breakfast was quite tasty. There were some great dining options within walking distance also.

« Good choice in central location »

Comfortable clean modern room. Location is in walking distance to Little Italy, tour bus, trolley, etc. Friendly staff. Free breakfast bar is next door in restaurant and is the nicest I have seen. Very pleasant stay.

« Nice hotel with good location »

Nice and comfortable hotel in a very good location. Bay and Italian district is close, lovely things to see within a short walk e.g. harbour, U.S.S. Midway, Star of India. Breakfast was provided. This hotel was value for money.

« Perfect location, comfortable quiet room. »

This was a very affordable, comfortable hotel in a great location. Originally we were going to stay in the Old Town area but decided we wanted to be able to walk to some main attractions. We were so glad to have booked this hotel as you could walk to the waterfront, Gas Lamp Quarter, Little Italy is round the corner and the tram is 5 mins walk away. Our room was lovely and quiet, could not hear any noise from surrounding rooms or corridor. Breakfast was all you needed........didn't use the pool but looked ok. They provided a free transfer from the airport and took us to the car hire location when we left. Good free WIFI.

    4
    « Good Value »

Almost in Little Italy and 10 mins walk from the Gaslamp Quarter this hotel is ideally situated. Also it is only 40 mins walk from Balboa Park. This is a good clean no frills hotel that I would recommend to anyone. With breakfast part of the deal I won't fault it. The lounge bar is too utilitarian for my taste but it is reasonably well stocked and quite cheap.

    4
« Great Location to many sights »

Hotel was clean, roomy, beds very comfortable. Location was within walking distance to the wharf, Little Italy & many nice restaurants and local pubs. The down side is, the hotel charges $18 per day to park in a garage next door.

    4
« Great value, solid accomodations and good breakfast »

We were there for a large meeting held mostly at the Convention Center and the Marriott Marquis, about a mile away. Walking worked fine and we also used a shuttle bus from the meeting that picked up at a Westin hotel four blocks away. The front desk nicely arranged our 6 AM departure to the airport. The important Internet worked fine and things were neat and clean and in good repair. Not a luxury hotel but we didn't need that.

this hotel recently completed a remodel of lobby, pool, exercise etc. looks great. The restaurant has a varied menu and the quality has been consistent over the years we have stayed here. Location is handy to most areas one would wish to visit in San Diego

    « Perfect stay »

This hotel was a pleasant surprise. The room was nicer than expected, with a comfy bed, chair, mini fridge, decent bathroom, great view, and overall quiet stay. It is within easy walking distance of bayfront attractions, Seaport Village, Little Italy, trolley and ferry terminals, and restaurants. The drive to Coronado, Balboa Park and attractions near Mission Bay is quick and easy, making it a reasonable home base for tourist activities . A decent free buffet breakfast is included. Wifi worked well. Staff were friendly and helpful. Overall a good value and nice property.

    « Vacation Getaway »

This is a Great hotel! We totally enjoyed our room and the great view of the bay and the night lights! Breakfast in the morning was very good with options of a hot breakfast or a continental breakfast! We were in walking distance to Seaport Village and other attractions. We had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The room was very nice and the staff was very professional and ready to help with any needs.

« Great location, lousy water temp stability »

Love the location of the Bayside Inn, San Diego. Within easy walking distance (a few blocks) of Waterfront Park and the Bay Front. Would probably stay there again if in San Diego. The hotel is a basic mid-priced lodging, clean and fairly quiet. The problem we had was with the water temperature in the shower. It fluctuated between very hot and quite cool. Had to turn the temperature to cool to keep from getting possibly scalded. Would have rated the hotel 'very good' if not for the water temperature problem.

    5
« Great food but please stop bringing the check with the food - it's so rude! »

Our waitress Marlene is marvellous and I hope the restaurant appreciates her. The steak was great too. But we were the only guests in a huge restaurant and yet someone brought the check with the steak. Why? This is an indication that they want to move the guests along. We weren't even asked if we wanted another drink or a desert. If the restaurant had been full it would have been understandable but we were the only two guests until near the end when a single male guest appeared

    « excellent accommodations »

This is a great hotel near Little Italy; walking distance to restaurants and shops. Breakfast included makes for a convenient way to start the day.Recent remodeling is a great improvement. and has a modern touch.

    « Good value »

The room was comfortable and well-equipped with fridge, full bath, balcony with sea view and reliable wi-fi. TV was poor but I noticed that the cable TV company was hard at work installing equipment on other floors, so I assume this is being addressed. Service was excellent. Receptionists were super friendly and helped us out with our few questions. They also knew the area well, which is not always a given in many other hotels. Breakfast was a bit unusual but good. You have to leave the hotel and walk 20 metres to the next building. The breakfast buffet catered to all tastes and staff worked hard to keep the area spotlessly clean. All parts of the breakfast buffet were constantly replenished.

    4
    « Small but comfortable »

The location is excellent. We walked everywhere except the ferry ride to Coronado. The breakfast was the standard items but with little extras not offered. The beds are comfortable but there is nowhere to lounge.

    3
    « Average business hotel »

This is an average business hotel in downtown San Diego. It is handily placed for the local maritime attractions. Breakfast was included in the room rate and again was average. So if you are on a budget then this is a decent hotel and if you are not then why would you stay here!

    5
« Excellent hotel when staying in downtown San diego »

We would definitely recommend this hotel in downtown . The rooms are quite spacious with very comfortable beds and the very pleasant housekeeping staff keep the rooms spotless each day . In fact all the staff we came in contact with were most welcoming, friendly and knowledgable and a credit to Best Western. There is a free breakfast buffet which is a great plus to have before a day sightseeing and the staff there are also very pleasant and friendly. If you don't want to hire a car it is situated within walking distance (if you enjoy walking ) to the Harbor, little Italy , gas lamp quarter and Horton shopping plaza . We would most definitely stay here again on our return to San Diego .

« When in downtown San Diego »

The Best Western Plus Bayside is the perfect location, just a couple blocks from Little Italy, a couple miles to the zoo and Old Town. Two blocks to the Bay, The hotel is very clean, we had a king bed and it had one of those thick mattresses, i slept like a baby. It was quiet even though it is only a couple blocks to the train, we never heard it, We were on the bayside and what a view!! Your can have your choice of city view or bay view, we have done both and both great. I had preferences for the room and the staff met all of them. Great staff, always smiles and hellos. We did enjoy the complimentary breakfast and once again, great staff there, smiles even early morning. We like the Best Western Plus Bayside and when we are in Sam Diego that is our home.

« Great location, clean rooms and attentive staff »

We got to this hotel blindly from Priceline name your own price tool and were fortunate - we got an excellent price on a centrally located hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay including moving us on the 2nd day to a better bay view room, late check out, etc. We were walking distance to most things we wanted to see (albeit a mile to 2 to cover waterfront and Gaslamp) so easy to park ($18 a night which seemed reasonable to us given the price we paid for the room) and leave the car most of the time.

    5
    « Excellent Choice! »

I have stayed at this hotel before. They have stepped it up! It was a good value before and I was more then willing to stay again. This is better then most 4 star and some 5 star hotels I have stayed at.

    5
« Best Western Plus Bayside - great location »

This is an amazing location for anyone wanting to head to SanDiego. It's right in the heart of great food, walking distance to shopping, eating, and entertainment. The Cab right to SeaWorld was only 20 dollars, cab from airport was only 15 (les than paying for the shuttle) and for us, this hotel and location met all our expectations.

    5
« Alternative To Convention Center Hotels »

Stayed at Bayside Inn as an alternative to the San Diego Convention Center hotels and their much higher prices. Average convention hotels were around $350/night I paid $178.Be prepared for cab ride or for about a mile walk; I choose the walk, suggest to do it along the shore, lots to see and places to eat. You'll walk right past the historic Midway carrier.. allow time for a tour. THE HOTEL: Room was great, nice view 14th floor and include free breakfast. Their dinner menu is fine in a pinch but I preferred the Little Italy Restaurants 2 blocks down the street. Staff was very helpful and included pick-up and drop off at airport. Overall clean hotel great staff/stay.

    « Extended Stay »

We stayed 16 nights and had a wonderful experience. Employees are friendly and helpful. The hotel is cleaned continually in all areas. Our room was comfortable and clean. We were told some updating will begin soon for the rooms. Complimentary buffet breakfasts were a great service. Rates were less than other area hotels. Great Stay!

    « Great Stay! »

We really enjoyed our stay at the Bayside. It was great to be able to walk a few blocks to the heart of Little Italy. We could see the bay from our window, which also faced the pool. Because of the shape of the hotel, the noise from the pool floated up and was a bit annoying , even with the slider closed. I would request a non pool side room next time. Sunday evening was much quieter and we were able to use the hot tub with no other guests! The breakfast included is located a few steps from the front door and is more than adequate to start the day. The usual fare of eggs and another hot item, drinks, rolls and muffins, cereal etc. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable and we would certainly stay again.

« Comfortable hotel, good position »

I've been in this hotel during a business trip in San Diego. The hotel is comfortable and clean, with spacious rooms, private internal parking and a (very) small swimming pool. The personnel is friendly and takes care of your needs. The hotel is located at 10' walk from the seafront and from the Little Italy district. Ask for a room at the upper floors, on the west side of the hotel. You'll have sight of the bay from the window. Breakfast is fairly good, with sufficient variety of food. Fridge available in the rooms, but no minibar.

« My experience at the Best Western Plus in San diego »

The room was clean. the night and early morning view of the city from the 12 floor was very appealing and relaxing The staff were very accommodating. The indoor pool and hot tub can be used comfortably the year around. It's just a short walking distance to Little Italy and delicious restaurants. It is a quiet place to stay.

    « Clean and comfortable »

Typical Best Western. Very small lobby. Ice on every third floor. No reading chair. One-cup coffee maker. Location was good--near Santa Fe Depot (train station), little Italy (great restaurants) and harbor.

    « Pre-cruise Stay »

Had two rooms with family prior to a cruise. Well appointed rooms with a great view of the bay. Great location - walk to bay attractions. Restaurant in hotel closed on weekends but breakfast provided with a short walk. Hotel provided transfer to cruise ship. Friendly helpful personnel.

« Nice views of the bay »

Enjoyed our stay at this san diego hotel. We're in town for a convention, this hotel is a long walk from convention center or a nice short ride on the trolly. We had a room on the top floor looking towards the bay, and the view from the balcony was spectacular. Updated rooms and modern lobby. Good hot breakfast included at the resteraunt. More reasonably priced than hotels close to convention center. One of the better best westerns I've been to.

    « San Diego Trip »

I would highly recommend this hotel it is located close to all the things to do and see in the downtown area, especially the Maritime Museum and the USS Midway.. Very close to the airport there is free shuttle to and from the airport. The hotel is located within walking distance to all the bus and trolley stations.

    4
    « Good base »

Stayed for four nights. Room was basic decorated- probably could use some updating- but this wasn't a problem. Cleaned really well with great amenities, full fridge in the room with microwave. Theres a pool and a tub downstairs and the staff at the front desk are really helpful, we also used the shuttle to get to the Amtrak with all our luggage. The hotel is in a good location for Little Italy which turned out to be our favourite place in San Diego. There are plenty of great restaurants and bars there and it felt a very safe and clean area to walk around at night.

    4
« A great jewel in San Diego »

I was very pleased with the hotel, great central locale and with the a tram pass we were able to go just about everywhere. The staff were friendly, the rooms were clean, and you couldn't beat the short walk to great food.

Had a great stay, clean rooms, nice view, walking distance to the Maritime Museum, USS Midway, Little Italy, and the historic Gaslamp Quarter. Our flight wasn't leaving until later in the evening, so we left our car at the hotel garage and did a little sightseeing. Thank you to the staff for accommodating us, even after we had checked out. Will definitely stay again.

    « Goog location »

Located Downtown and nearby the Gaslamp quarter (10min on foot). Big rooms, big bed, view on the See and well equiped. Good for families with kids, because some rooms are communicant. Pool, jacuzzi, fitness room and restaurant. Free Wifi and computer at the Lobby. Good quality-price ratio.

    4
« Perfect location if you are footing the bill. »

For tourists or business people paying their own bill, the location is perfect. 1 block from Little Italy, 6 blocks from Gaslamp, 5 blocks from the waterfront, 3 blocks to the transit system. 6 minutes to the airport rental car center. Combine that with free wifi and breakfast and its hard to justify the more expensive chains. Ok, the carpet is in serious need of replacement and the room furniture is dated, so bring your slippers and get out of the room anyway!

    5
    « Business Ready »

Comfortable rooms with great work desk and reliable WIFI. Room service is fast and the food is well prepared, priced right and tasty. Centrally located to the downtown area and close to the Gaslamp Quarter and Little Italy, you cannot find a more reasonable and comfortable hotel for the business traveler.

« HAD TO FIGHT TO GET A DECENT ROOM »

Had never stayed in Downtown, or really spent a lot of time in San Diego. Was visiting my Family at the 5th street Marina nearby. And were here for the USC holiday bowl game. Now the hotel is a high-rise. I wanted a nicer view. The filipino boy, in the afternoon, tried to stick me on the 2nd floor! (its 14 floors) He claimed" We have no other rooms" well....after a few minutes, mysteriously he found one. On the highest floor. Patronizing game-player! . The room was very nice: well appointed, well lit and a Mini-balcony. (no furniture) Nice chair. comfortable bed. I found it annoying how the maid intentionally left a "maxi pad disposal bag" on the toilet tank. when she knew only a male was in the room! She did that intentionally. Their "included" breakfast? not tasty. , and the room was overfilled. With so many San Diego hotels? This one is not worthy of a return. Although I really liked the room. Just not being "jack'd around" at check in, by some "hospitality novice". c'mon now!?

    5
    « Accessible to Everything »

We are staying in Palm Springs and had to bring our son to San Diego to drop him off for his flight. We decided to stay a couple of nights in San Diego before that. This was a great choice for a place to stay. It has the expected standard of quality for a Best Western. It was close to everything. Our son could walk to the Gaslamp District for the evening. We were able to walk to Anthony's Fish Grotto for dinner. My son and I also walked back from Seaport Village. The beds were comfortable. The patio door could be opened for fresh air and the balcony was big enough to stand outside. I'm not sure I would bother with the $10 extra for the bay view. It's quite tiny and if you're out most of the day not really worth it. The pool and hot tub looked lovely. Breakfast was good enough. It looked like you could order off the menu if you wanted to pay but the included food was pretty good.

    « Cruise vacation »

Hotel was clean. Some confusion re early check in @ 1:30 pm was told rooms not ready til 3 pm, however many rooms were available. After discussion a room suddenly was available. Upon return from cruise early check in was available. Good location in downtown San Diego

« Great Place - Close to Beach »

This was a great place to stay, close to everything - Little Italy, Seaport Village, beaches. Only issue we had was hot water regulation in the shower and restaurant did not stay open very late. Other than that a great place with low parking cost!

    5
    « Great location! »

We loved the hotel's location, close to the waterfront, the Gaslamp district, Little Italy, Balboa Park, the Zoo... Great location! Parking was $14 a night but it was very convenient, in and out privileges and space. Breakfast happens in an adjacent restaurant down the street. One of the days we stayed there it was insanely packed and we had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. The other day it was fine. Room service was great, the pool was superb, the view was amazing from our room, and it was ultra clean. Will repeat no doubt!

« Just what we wanted »

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst travelling between the UK and Hawaii and found that it was just what we wanted. A quick phone call from the airport and the free shuttle came straight away and picked us up. Check in was swift and staff very friendly. Our room was clean and very comfortable and had everything we expected. The hotel offered a free and sufficient breakfast service. It is very well situated a couple of blocks from the Santa Fe railway station and the Ocean front promenade, with all its attractions in easy walking distance. It is also at the entrance of Little Italy with all its restaurants, so plenty of eating options on your doorstep. We found a lovely little restaurant right across the road, which was very reasonably priced and very popular with locals. We had a very enjoyable stay here and would highly recommend this hotel as a very good mid priced option Jin a good location. We would certainly stay here again.

    4
    « Good location »

A good location just a short drive from the airport and and within easy walking distance to the cruise terminal. Free collection service from the airport to the hotel and, if required, the cruise terminal. Rooms are classically American with dark wood but roomy, clean and equipped with a coffee maker. The restaurant is about a 100 yard walk from the hotel but you have to go outside. Staff friendly and helpful. Good value if booked in advance and includes a Continental breakfast.

« Ideal location comfortable hotel »

We stayed for seven nights in November. Having visited San Diego previously we knew we wanted to be close to the waterf and the trolley system. We literally could not have chosen better for the trolleys. We could see the Santa Fe depot platform from our room and little Italy station was across the street and one block over. The whole waterfront was a five minute walk too. Really this is such a good location. We had a room on the twelfth floor with an amazing view of a part of the bay. We could watch the lights come on in point Loma. We also had fun watching the reflections in the huge building opposite. The planes coming into land at the airport did seem very close from our balcony. As we were close to the airport we were aware of plane noise for the first couple of days but we adjusted and barely noticed it by day three. We did have an office building next door which was harder to ignore as we would wake up look out and be in very close proximity to people working next door. I found that slightly difficult but not enough to make me want to give up my view. !!! Our room was pretty standard for this type of hotel. Nicely decorated, very clean with a small but adequate bathroom. Towels were lovely and fluffy and the water was always hot. We didn't need any more than that. We had the usual two huge beds. Coming from the UK we always feel we would prefer just one bed as that's what we're used to but again it wasn't an issue. Beds were comfortable and we certainly slept well. We really liked our room it was very useable for our needs. We had places to store our cases and plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space too. There was a coffee machine. The one item in not keen on as it takes too long to make two coffees. I would always prefer a kettle so I can simply buy a jar of instant coffee but that's my personal preference. A fridge and a microwave were in the room too- both very usefu to have . Breakfast was included and was located in a separate resturant at the end of the block. There were enough choices to please most people . Plenty of options . Cereal , yogurts toast etc plus there was always eggs and sausages in the hot trays. Some mornings there was bacon and others there were potatoes. We were happy with the options and the staff in the resturant were all lovely. The staff in the main building were lovely too. Not at all intrusive but definitely there if we needed their help. Nothing was too much trouble and they were very polite always. Our main aim in booking this hotel was its location. We had no car while visiting and were easily able to walk everywhere. From the Gaslamp to the whole waterfront we were never too far away. We used the trolleys most days and couldn't have asked for a simpler way to travel. Being so close to the stations meant no long walk either to or from. Eating out was so pleasant too . little Italy is fabulous for food and being so close to us we did eat there a few times. We also visited the wonderful farmers market there too. If you're in the area on a Saturday morning it's definitely worth a visit. Lots of vendors selling not just food but also great crafts. I loved it and spent a couple of happy hours browsing around. I met some lovely traders and everything was beautifully displayed. We love San Diego, for itself but also for its great transport links up the coast with lots of stopping off points along the way. Having discovered this hotel we would definitely return any time we visited because for us it's a nice comfortable base for our adventures at a great price point

    5
« Would stay there again »

The hotel was clean and decorated nicely, the staff was friendly and the breakfast was much better then I expected. Anything that I needed was available right at the hotel which was nice. I would recommend this hotel and I would stay there again.

« Nice Stay for Half the Cost of the Convention Hotels »

Came to San Diego for a conference and all the hotels near the convention center were either booked or were charging $350 per night or more. We found the Bay side inn on trip advisor for less than half of that. The walk to the convention center is about 15 minutes. The hotel is not top tier, but no one in our party of nineteen complained. Everyone liked the rooms and views; we were on floors 15 - 19, with both city and bay views. Front desk staff were pleasant and helpful. The free breakfast was sufficient, but go early if you can, because the do run out of items. The self parking stalls are some of the smallest I have ever parked in, so the smaller your car the better. All in all, they do not offer all the amenities of the "big name" hotels, but we had a nice stay for half the cost.

    5

    « Great Hotel »

This Hotel is within walking distance of so many attractions, restaurants, cruise ship terminal etc. The beds were so comfortable, the rooms were spacious and the staff did everything to make our stay unforgettable. The room came with free breakfast which was fantastic - buffet style and something for everyone. We would definitely stay here again.

« Modern, clean, comfortable, walkable to many fun areas »

Easy to walk to Little Italy, downtown, Gaslamp Quarter, waterfront, Balboa Park, etc. from this location, especially if you like longer walks - but there is a tram or trolley right there as well. Lots of fascinating and lively areas to explore. San Diego has one of the larger homeless populations in the US, however, so you will see very many people living on the streets. Hotel staff was pleasant. We didn't like that they charged for parking in their structure. Were pleased that they accommodated a late checkout (even though it meant having to call for it in the morning - which I hate because you don't know if you'll be able to relax or have to rush, but at least they said yes). Bed was very comfortable, room had sliding doors leading to a tiny balcony. Didn't take advantage of pool or restaurant. This is our second stay here and we will definitely return. Note, if you arrive late in the evening but want to buy cocktail supplies for your room, none of the many surrounding 7-Elevens sell alcohol of any kind and there are no other corner stores. You have to go to the 24-hour Ralphs Grocery store at 101 G Street. Another note: check out the Spruce Street suspended bridge.

« Ideally located, terrific staff and wonderful breakfast »

Absolutely phenomenal stay in this lovely 13 story hotel. We were on the 10th floor with a view of the bay and Little Italy. The bed was comfortable and the sheets and pillow cases were soft. The small balcony doesn't have chairs. The room has a tall refrigerator and a microwave. The outdoor pool area with a Jacuzzi is in the inner courtyard and has comfortable lounge chairs. We can't say enough about the helpful staff. Everyone in the restaurant for breakfast was beyond accommodating and the breakfast was ample and tasty. Secured indoor parking is $14 per day but there is a free shuttle to and from the airport and the trolley is a two block walk towards the bay. You can get to all attractions with the trolley except for the Safari Park in Escondido and the small aquarium in La Jolla. We highly recommend this hotel.

    5
    « Fantastic Vacation! »

The Hotel is fantastic. We used the pool and hot tub, the restaurant, everything was wonderful. We accidentally left a stuffed animal and they found him and are sending him home. You will not be disappointed. Even the non water view was still a good one.

    « Bravo.. »

We stayed here for two nights for an event downtown. This was ideal location to walking all around the Embarcadero, Little Italy, Gas Lamp district and the waterfront. There are many food and drink choices nearby so a car is really not necessary if you don't need to venture out of those areas. The hotel rooms were spacious, up to date and very clean. The pool area is outdoor but in the middle of the hotel so it seems indoor and you don't feel the weather as much. It was a nice pool with a jacuzzi, towels and a vending machine nearby. Plenty places to sit and relax around the pool. The breakfast was included in the room and had items such as pancakes, eggs, sausage, fruit, cereal, juices etc. Plenty to find to hold you over until lunch. The staff all around were very pleasant, professional and eager to help. Didn't give a 5 star only because to charge for parking I feel is never in the best interest of a hotel, no matter where in town it is. The parking was $14.00 a night, not terrible but $28.00 more dollars to park my car was not a charge I thought was necessary, it is a service that should always be provided to a hotel customer. There is really nowhere around this hotel to park for free and walk so it's really not a option. Overall good, would return in the future.

    « Comfortable and convenient »

We stayed one night at this hotel following a cruise and had no real issues. We were surprised to find our room available mid-morning following debarkation from our ship and were delighted with the large, comfortable space following 10 days in a rather small cabin. The hotel is a short distance from the cruise port (not close enough to roll your bags mind you) and is within an easy walk of Little Italy. Our room was bright, modern and clean and had a partial view of the harbor. Beware that room costs can be on the high side and appear to be driven by the size and number of conventions in town. Unfortunately, there was a big one on when we were there so we paid what we would normally pay for much more luxurious accommodations. The buffet breakfast was served at the restaurant next door and was (as is usually the case with Best Westerns) quite substantial and enjoyable. Also, the hotel offers a convenient airport shuttle.

    « Booking nightmare »

after booking on line w/ trip advisor, paid for my room, received a confirmation receipt. called hotel "day of" to confirm - sorry, "we don't have a reservation for you". after 20 minutes on the phone, and 1/2 hr w/ trip advisor, i was assured, all was taken care of and room would be ready, ask for moises. arrived... "no reservation". moises had no clue who i was and was told they were "booked". after contacting trip advisor again, they "found" a room. gave them my credit card to charge for parking $14. next day, checked my credit card statement (though i never signed anything or was given a receipt) saw that i was charged double for parking and charged AGAIN for the room. still waiting on a credit back to my card, after a week later. though the room was clean, and great location, zero customer service - never a "thank you", "sorry for the inconvenience", upon checking out, not a "thanks for staying with us".... i'm possibly the exception here, i stayed here based on the other reviews... I will not be back.

The Bayside Inn was a great stay, with excellent accommodations and friendly staff. The location is conveniently located to everything! Nice views and in the center of it all. Great restaurants and live music within walking distance.

« Thankful to find a hotel that actually had smoking rooms. »

Having spent many hours looking for rooms that allowed smoking on the balcony ,patio , lanai for a 2 week sweep thru Hawaii and San Diego, it was nice to find a hotel with smoking room spelled out in the website. I generally don`t smoke in the room with my girlfriend but think it is ridiculous to require someone to dress and go down and walk sometimes totally off the property to smoke when there is patio. That is their privilege but defining the limitation clearly and spelling out on there website would be helpful. Even using TripAdvisor which does it`s best to spell it out was painful.

I had forgotten that I stayed at this hotel before. It' was a great place before and I believe has gotten even better. The staff gave excellent service and everyone was friendly and helpful. Last time my view was of the city and this trip I had a room facing the bay. Both ways are beautiful. The location is convenient for seeing downtown and very close to the airport. The free airport shuttle is a big plus.

« Nice hotel and view »

Good value and nice room. Excellent view of the water from our room. Comfortable bed. Breakfast was good but not great. It met expectations for this type of amenity. Easy walking distance to the events I was attending as well as many great restaurants.

    « Not "Best" Western »

The rate was good, but I'd have paid more for a room that did not have patio doors whistling wind through them and a TV and remote that worked properly. Planned power outage during an entire night was acceptable and hotel did decent job of giving out flashlights and glowsticks, but did not tell us hot water would off in the morning. Restaurant did not honor breakfast vouchers toward an off the menu option even though value of breakfast buffet was listed on coupon. Excellent bed - one of the most comfortable beds I've slept on in a hotel recently. Also, great location near little Italy - lots of fun restaurants and bars.

    « excellent hotel »

This hotel is excellent. We had a room on the top floor overlooking the bay. Even with a little rain it provided a wonderful view. The lights on the street were a nice addition to the experience. To go to breakfast entailed a trip outside but breakfast was very good.

    « Great weekend getaway »

I booked this hotel a night in advance, using my hotels.com app. I was looking to stay in Gaslamp, but not willing to spend $200+ on a room for just one night. So this was the next best thing. I was pleasantly surprised! The location was awesome! Just a few short steps away from little Italy, which I had never been to before! Outstanding for in little Italy and great atmosphere. The hotel is also walking distance to ballast point brewery! It was a bit of a ways walking into Gaslamp but I didn't mind. Uber ride out of Gaslamp was about $5! Easy! Rooms and breakfast provided was great! I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Also can see the ocean from the street, all around great experience!

« my favorite san diego hotel »

very clean, lovely large room, comfortable and very helpful and courteous staff. Last time I stayed at this hotel, about a month ago, I sustained an accident at the San Diego Airport....and arrived all bloodied up and needing stitches at the hotel. When the staff saw me they sent me up to urgent care....I really needed that assistance. They were so very kind and caring. The shuttle man took me and picked me up when I was all sewed up. I will always remember their thoughtfulness.

    « Great location for pre-cruise »

We stayed here before we left for a cruise. It was a great location. We went to Little Italy for dinner, about 2 blocks. When we checked in the front desk was so helpful, they told us about the Farmers Market in the morning in Little Italy, so we walked over, and it was great. Hotel is clean and the city view very nice. When we checked in everyone was very nice. We did the park n cruise and setup our time for the shuttle when we checked in. We parked the car at the hotel, which has covered parking. The shuttle was on time. Upon our return we called the hotel anywhere taken back to the hotel to pick up our car. This is just about 4 blocks from the cruise port, so we walked down there in the evening prior to our departure. I would recommend staying here.

« Chicago Bears vs Chargers Trip! Nice Location »

A group of us (4 guys) needed a place to stay for a guys weekend/Monday Night Football trip. We wanted something close to the trolley making it easy to get to Qualcomm Stadium and at the same time close to restaurants, bars and other attractions. This hotel was perfect in that it met all of the requirements for a much better rate than some of the much larger chains downtown. Easy access to Little Italy, harbor area, Gaslamp Quarter for nightlife and the convention center. There is also a Rite Aid nearby for convenience items and snacks. We had 2 double rooms on the 9th/10th (1003 and 901) floor overlooking the Bay. A nice view. The room was what you would expect in a hotel room. 2 double beds, flat screen tv, mini fridge and microwave, the individual coffee maker which came in handy after the late nights we had. A small balcony to step out on just to take in the view and air, but it wasn't large enough for anything other than standing. The lobby area isn't very large like some of the big hotels, but it does include some couches and chairs for sitting and I believe there were 2 computers for guests to use. Breakfast is included with the stay here, also a plus. It included scrambled eggs, sausage or ham depending on the day, pancakes or potatoes, various other pastries, bagels etc...with your juice, milk, coffee options as well. One morning they didn't offer pancakes and my brother asked and the waitress went and had 2 large pancakes made for him. The restaurant also offers dinner, but were never around to try it or the bar out, so I can't comment good or bad about it. I almost forgot about the free shuttle to and from the airport. After we landed I contacted the hotel regarding having a shuttle pick up and Daniel arrived within 10-15 minutes and also provided us with some tips about places to eat and getting around the area. Overall a nice, clean hotel in a good location. No complaints .

« Night in San Diego »

We arrived before check in but was able to check in early. There is a parking garage onsite that cost $14.00 per day which was reasonable and quick. We were on the 14th floor with a fantastic view of the bay. Wifi and breakfast were free, room was clean and well appointed with a fridge and microwave. Short walk to the waterfront or public transit, location was good. At checkout we were able to leave our car in the garage as we wanted to sightsee for a few more hours and this was no problem with the hotel. Would definitely stay here again when in San Diego.

    « Great location »

Just arrived, yesterday, 8 Nov. Hotel just 10 minutes from the airport. Called them and shortly after the courtesy bus arrived and took us to the hotel. Asked for a "bay view" on a high floor and they have accommodated us. Little Italy. Just a few steps away where we had some great food and met some interesting people from Nashville, who were kind enough to provide us with some insight into the next leg of our tour. Having a great day and only the second day!

« A VERY enjoyable stay at Best Western Bayside »

Stayed at the hotel for 7nights on Oct28-Nov4, 2015. This is my 1st time staying at a hotel in San Diego downtown and all I had to vouch for the hotel was the reviews here in TripAdvisor. And I am NOT dissapointed :) There are nearby food options and convenience stores so its easy to eat or buy something. The purpose of my stay is for vacation and familiarize myself with San Diego for a possible next visit. I did stay some days indoor solely at the hotel so I am able to really appreciate what the hotel had to offer. And my review as follows: Reservations: I booked directly thru Best Western website. The online booking itself is straightforward, secure and accurate. Everything was booked online on my end as far as selection of room and booking. Prior to that I really did check the site on how the rooms looked liked and amenities included. There was a promo rate on the website which I availed. I received confirmation of my booking and called the hotel directly after a few days to confirm if my reservation did came thru (yep, I'm paranoid at times when it comes to online booking, I always want to be sure I dont end up gawking at the hotel lobby over a missing reservation) Happy enough to say, my reservation is indeed recorded and accurately booked. No hassle! Rating: Excellent for both Bestwestern online site and Best Western Hotel reception the accurate reservation and confirmation. Check-in: Check-in was a breeze, my reservation was recorded and available. I was asked my creditcard for swiping (the hotel didnt charge upfront, but likely kept on file for immediate charging on check-out). I was issued a room key, given vouchers for free breakfast and 15% off for dinner at the restaurant. I actually had 3 room changes: the 1st one given to me was a twin room so called the FrontDesk about it and was given another room at the 6F. It was okay except I wanted a higher view and later asked again FrontDesk if possible to get another room on a higher floor. What can I say, they accommodated my request and got me a room on the 12F. I know its a hassle but I really do appreciate the hotel's consideration for their guest's requests. Rating: Excellent x10! Nothing really to fault on check-in; the minor issue of issuing a twin room is nothing compared to the accommodation oh the hotel to transfer me to a room that I preferred. Special thanks to Shiela (I hope I got her name right for accommodating my requests!) I didn't get the name of the guy who was on FrontDesk too, but I couldn't have been more at home--everyone was polite, courteous to all inquiries and will make you feel comfy. Actually, everyone I talked to at FrontDesk was friendly. Room: One more thing I liked with this hotel is that the room is as what it shows in the website pictures! I hate to be misled into something that's not and I'm glad to get a room that is what is advertised and stated in my reservation. Its quite spacious in my opinion. The room is CLEAN! :) And that's what's important more than anything. Bed linens are spotless white, room smells odorless---there was an awkward smell somewhere near the ref/microwave, but its not permeating in the whole room and I didnt smell it anywhere except near the microwave and sometimes there was no smell--its basically negligible in any case. The room is equipped with what was indicated in the room inclusions. The closets have nothing to fault; got good hanging room and drawers to put your clothes in. The AC/heater runs well and lightning-wise okay. The cable TV I enjoyed a lot with crisp picture and big screen. Its a nice compliment to relax considering more cable channels to watch than I have at home. I enjoyed lounging on the side sofachair. The business table is sufficient for use. The bathroom is clean too, no ungodly scent lingering anywhere. I do like the smell of towels like its just taken from the laundry, and they're all pristine white and fluffy! The bathroom has got usual toiletries so all good there. I feel its a bit small but its not like I'm going to stay in the toilet all day so its just fine. The shower area is a bit small for taller guests in my opinion; my height its all good and manageable (I'm not going to go somersault in the shower so its ok). I love the way the water is already tempered and not where you have to balance hot and cold knobs together. WIFI connects good and has good bandwidth considering I play online games on my Ipad and was consistent, you just need to re-login again when you get disconnected. The room dont have a doorbell though, so old-fashioned knocking. The lock on my door doesnt seem to lock. There is a door chain though but I feel that's easy to unscrew/loosen should someone intent to break in. But nonetheless, I didnt feel unsafe in the hotel nor anything lost or out of order with my things. In general, the room is sufficient to give you the comfort of your stay. The cable channels are extensive enough for binge watching in the room! Rating: Very Good! The room could use minor adjustment with the shower/tub size but as I said, it really just suits me. The door locks needs some work though. Food: The free breakfast buffet is sufficient I guess. I have selected menu due to diet and was disappointed there weren't any fish cuisine for breakfast. I had to settle everyday for scrambled eggs and pancake or bread but all enjoyable just the same. Now the dinner menu is much more something to look forward too! I ordered nachos, quesodillas, fried shrimp and Spaghetti Marinara--I loved all of them! Well I loved the Spaghetti Marinara the best! Its my fav at their restaurant I had to order it again before my flight out. Kudos to the chef! I always look forward to dinner room service (if I didnt have any takeout). Rating: Breakfast is Good! Dinner options are EXCELLENT, really must try! And the lady who always served for my room service is so polite and nice! She always have this smile! Service: Hotel personnel are polite and courteous. Housekeeping always cleans my room and replenish toiletries. Calls I put in for room service and Front Desk are always answered politely. I had a chance to ride their shuttle to the airport, its a safe and good ride. The driver is also nice to chat with. Rating: EXCELLENT! Nothing to fault there. Didnt have any bad experience or unprofessional handling. Checkout: Checkout was no hassle either. I actually requested for an extension of another day because my flight was late night and I didnt want to just loiter around till flight time. I requested for another night but left by 8PM and was charged just half the night charge. Rating: Excellent x10! Other hotels would charge me the full night rate, but BestWestern was very very considerate to charge me half. There's still a cost but at least its half. In summary, Best Western Bayside Hotel San Diego gave me a very comfortable stay and I did enjoy just being in the room. The location is strategic if not very close to get what you need and where to go. The hotel serves its purposes and isn't really left out when it comes to room amenities. The bathroom and door lock can use some changes but its not a deal breaker. This is a hotel I will come back for sure!

« Good location and nice hotel »

We stayed for 2 nights while we visited Seaworld, USS Midway, Downtown and Old town and the hotel is conveniently located, close to the MTS Trolley station in Litte Italy. The rooms are big and the complimentary breakfast was adequate, but not more. The parking costs $14 per night and it's located directly to the right of the entrance.

    « Fleas »

I stayed here while family was in town over the summer. I woke up in the morning to something tickling my legs. Upon removing the covers, we noticed a couple of fleas. No one owned pets or lived in a residence that would have a possible flea infestation. This was not the best way to wake up. I immediately went downstairs to notify the front desk since fleas can become a big problem. They didn't really know how to address the situation and suggested they send someone to "take a look." We all had decided to pack our things up and head to breakfast. On our way out I had dropped off the key and the situation was not even acknowledged. This was very concerning, especially for the next people to stay in the hotel room. I had contacted customer care to express this concern and dissatisfaction. Customer care understood the gravity of this lack of attention and offered me credit at their hotel. I chose to be reimbursed as Best Western isn't my first choice when traveling. It's been over the 6 weeks I was promised to receive a check and I have yet to receive anything.

    « Excellent value, a little dated »

This hotel is in a great location, easy drive to gaslamp quarter, San Diego zoo and Old Town. Little Italy is within walking distance. The rooms are a little dated but have everything needed. Excellent breakfast. In comparison to cost of other hotels in area, and facilities offered, I would highly recommend this hotel.

Everything about this hotel was great from checking in to checking out, we stayed pre/post cruise we got keeping our room untill we got the shuttle bus to the ship when we arrived back at 9.30am we got into our room. When we were going to the airport we were to early for the shuttle bus but they phoned a taxi for us. The breakfast was very good. You are so close to Little Italy you can walk to Horton Plaza and the harbour is at the botton of the street

    « Poor Service »

I was disappointed with my stay at the Best Western Bayside Inn. Upon arrival I was not greeted by the front desk clerk and had to wait while he finished a telephone conversation. I was not provided with the requested receipt upon leaving and while assured it would be emailed to me, I have yet to receive it even after I made a phone call to remind the desk clerk. Breakfast is included in the price of the room, but the fare is limited and a luncheon meat ham was the only meat provided. The pancakes were rubbery and the eggs were over cooked in the service dish. The restaurant staff in contrast to frontdesk staff were friendly and helpful. Although the hotel claims room service, none was available on Sunday night when I requested it. The rooms provide a nice view of the Bay, but are in need of an update, particularly the carpet and furniture. The lobby is small but well-appointed and updated with a good free business center with two computers and printing.

    « Road trip »

Great location for downtown and access to public transport. Beautiful, modern lobby, but our room could have used a facelift. Carpet had stains and furniture wasn't new. Breakfast is included at a restaurant attached to hotel. Better than many breakfasts. Elevators were fast and didn't have to wait long for them. I thought the price was a little high, parking additional. I know downtown hotels are always pricier, but I expect a little more in amenities from a BW Plus, especially for the price. Hotel is clean and comfortable and in what seemed like a very safe neighborhood. Easy to get to zoo and many other attractions.

    « Pleasantly Surprised »

I was slightly hesistant booking a Best Western as I had head slightly negative reviews in other locations. However we were checked in immediately upon arrival. The staff on reception gave us our parking permit, $14 per night, which was not bad for a big city hotel. The hotel was clean, and the room was large and bright. The location is excellent, very accessible to attractions in San Diego such as Balboa Park and the Gaslamp Quarter. Only downside was the pool was on the small side, and I do not think the sunlight ever hits the pool due to the height of the hotel and adjacent buildings.

« A good value for Comic Con. »

Beautiful view of San Diego Harbor and the wood sailing ship. For around $200.00 a night for SDCC this was a good deal. The breakfast was also good and the service was great. Check in was not friendly and only upon checkout did we learn that little Italy was so close. Some employees are nicer than others. The card key for our room frequently will not let us access the elevators. That being said overall I was glad to find a room this cheap for SDCC.

« Nothing not to like »

7 night stay - Great location, friendly helpful staff, decent size room, comfortable bed, clean, free wifi, free PC's in lobby with free printing, free airport shuttle, free adequate breakfast - all for a reasonable price. Also given a discount voucher for the restaurant - don't make my mistake of leaving it until the last night to use it as the meal was excellent at a very reasonable price compared to other local restaurants & much better meal. Room was 1201 Bayside, great view, ask for high floor, although 01 number on floor means adjacent to lift and a bit of noise, but that is being picky. Just a couple of small points. To hotel, If the restaurant menu had been in the room, it may have enticed me to use it earlier and then would have certainly used it more than once. If a coach party are expected and are going to fill the restaurant at a certain time, a notice to that effect in the lobby in the morning would mean guests could plan around it. We went down and it was packed as a coach had just arrived (late by all accounts), we were accommodated in the bar area, but notice would be nice. Thoroughly recommended

« Walkable for dinner and close to cruise ship departure area »

Hotel is walkable to dinner as it sits in the "Little Italy" section of San Diego, CA. We spent the night here prior to a cruise from the San Diego Cruise port nearby. There is a fee for parking your car of $14.00 per night.

« Good location, friendly staff, couple of hiccups! »

We stayed for a couple of nights whilst staying in San Diego as part of a 3 week Honeymoon. On arrival, we were told that they had our reservation in for the month after, this was obviously a worry as we had just travelled for about 15 hours to get there. The lady on reception very quickly found us another room for us thank god! We did have on all our reservations that it was our honeymoon and unfortunately due to the mix up with the booking, we weren't given a particularly good view (the rooms on the opposite side had a sea view). The breakfast was very basic but sufficient. The room was a good size, clean and a comfy bed. The hotel itself was in a great location and easy to find.

    « Good Location, Clean »

Very nice hotel. They had an airport shuttle and free breakfast which seems to be a hard combination to find in downtown San Diego. Staff was very friendly, we were able to check in early, which was great after a long flight. Location is within walking distance of everything, and I as a young woman traveling with a friend, I felt very safe in the area. The room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. I would definitely recommend this hotel, and if I visited San Diego I would stay here again.

Stayed here for 3 nights in June. Good location and loads of things in walking distance (USS Midway, Little Italy, Westfield mall, train station etc). Nice breakfast served at the restaurant next door. Loads of choice including pancakes, sausage, eggs etc. Pool was a little cold in the evening but not a problem as the hot tub was a good place to relax in the. The room was fine and we had a view that looked out towards the sea. There was a fridge in the room which was a good place to store my leftover Dominos. Good price for the location and would stay again.

    « San Diego B/W »

Extremely nice location in downtown San Diego.Very clean inside and out, restaurant location next to hotel is nice, you are not stuffed in some small room trying to eat breakfast. Short walk to the harbor and nearby shops and restaurants. My only "complaint" is the front desk staff seem distracted and lackadaisical about their customers. They were trying to check us in when the phone rang, they stopped our process and talked to whoever was on the phone, (felt sure it was a guest). Just felt like we didn't matter at that point. Wish they would have put the call on hold and finished our check-in, or minimally informed me that they were trying to resolve a problem for another guest and will be back with me in a few minutes.

Room was nice, and they gave us the top floor as requested Whenever we had to deal with front desk staff though, they were not helpful nor friendly. Shuttle driver was excellent

« Pleased with our stay, wonderful view! »

I stayed at the BW Bayside for a professional conference. I chose it because it looked nice, close to the trolley line, and was much less expensive than places by the convention center. They had my room ready for me 4 hour early, and gave me a room on the top floor. The view of the bay was spectacular. The rooms/bathrooms are clean and comfortable' the beds great. The rooms aren't spectacular, but I didn't pay $300 a night like a friend right near the convention center either. The breakfast was more than adequate both quantity of food and selections. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

« Wonderful stay, spectacular view and customer service »

We stayed for three nights while attending a conference in S.D. Our view was spectacular, they gave us a room on the top floor and had our room ready 4 hours before the published check-in time. The room was clean, bathroom really clean, and had a balcony overlooking the bay. Customer service, free breakfast, and airport shuttle were all great. I had a friend staying nearer the convention center who spent more than twice as much on her room....and we were happier with the BW than she was with her hotel!
