    « Great Stay »

Check in was smooth and easy, room wasn't ready (we were early) but we were able to get changed and use the pool. We had a deluxe room in the 1000 building, beautiful park/water view. Pools were good, hot tubs could be cleaned more often (band aids floating...). They have movies by the pool at night. In room dining staff were awesome, food always arrived quickly. In room coffee was gross, and the toiletries weren't great, but the free coffee in the lobby was good, and the breakfast in the gift shop was good. Shuttle drivers were awesome. All of them. The walk to Sea World was quick and safe. Staff has maps and print offs for everything - very very helpful staff. Shout out to Janessa at the front desk - helped me get on to Uber and gave me a coupon. She was very helpful. Beds were comfy, nice and quiet for sleeping, couldn't use lanai because of all the bird poop. Walking distance to Belmont Park, Mission Beach, Sea World - great location. Grounds were pretty. Wish they have a bit more variety food wise, but we had a great stay and would definitely come back!!

« Average hotel but with a fancy name »

When you hear the words "premier', "resort", etc. you expect a nice hotel. The Dana is more like an upgraded Motel. I had booked a standard room for 4 nights. The positives were-- 1) Spacious rooms including bathrooms. There were double vanities! 2) Clean 3) Close to Seaworld. Barely 5 minutes. Hotel also provides a free shuttle to and fro the park at a very limited schedule. 4) Front desk staff are very gracious and pleasant. 5) The walk around the marina is very pleasant...nice to take a walk. The negatives -- 1) Upgraded Motel. The walls are paper thin so you can hear people walking and talking in the hallway/corridor. Our room was in a row of rooms all within approx. 10 feet from the parking lot so when you open the door, you see the parking lot, and narrow corridor with people walking past. The windows faced this lot and the hallway in front of the room, so one would need to close the blinds for privacy. The bathroom window also faced a path with people walking, so again need to close the blinds. The place did not remind me of any resort or 'premier' facilities. There wasn't personal space for privacy except when you are inside the room with blinds shut. 2) Room service menu is just average and most of the dishes didn't taste good ( we had tried dessert, coffee, breakfast and dinner). Hence, when the food isn't good it doesn't feel nice to spend the amount of money on room service. However, we did it so as to Relax in the room and the closest restaurants were 20-25 minutes away (we were using Uber to move around the city). The onsite restaurant didn't have a different menu for the room service. Hence, the best food we had was Dominos Pizza ordered on the last night after returning from Seaworld and we were exhausted. Furthermore, sometimes they served the room service food on disposable utensils and sometimes in regular dishes...sometimes a tall glass of milk, other times in a short cup. I do not know how they decided this. 3) The shuttle timings are not very convenient, however, nice to have it. Since it is there, then there should be multiple shuttles running or a person to make sure that people are managed at the shuttle stops. There isn't room for more than 8-9 people. People who get to the stop first should have first priority but there wasn't much enforcement of this concept, so even if people had arrived earlier, they stayed back another 15-20 minutes for the same shuttle to return after dropping the passengers. Therefore, in 1 hour, the number of passengers transported isn't too many because the same shuttle goes back and forth. 4) We kept our bed linen clean. However, the sheets never got changed in the time we were there. 5) The pool didn't seem much heated. Maybe that is a personal preference. Would I return to this hotel? Maybe if I had a rental car...so we could drive to restaurants and other attractions...and if I can get a room far from parking lots...and that MAY NOT be a standard room, so would've higher rate/night. Then maybe better to stay at the Hyatt right across from this place.

« Great place to stay! »

We stayed at the Dana for 4 nights while participating in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day walk recently. Everyone we encountered on the staff was really nice, and went out of their way to make sure we felt welcome. The restaurant manager (Sarah) even made a special accommodation for us on Sunday night (at the conclusion of the walk) that we really appreciated! The room we had was on Mission Bay, and had a wonderful view from the balcony, It was a large room and was very quiet. We appreciated the turndown service, and even had a "towel animal" in the room on Sunday. Overall, a great stay and we would definitely come back again next year!

    « A Nice Get Away »

We were impressed with the amenities ( two pools, one for adults and one for kids with a dive in movie). Our room was facing the harbor, a nice scenic view to wake up to. The room decor was fashionable, with shutter windows, and beds were comfy. It has a nice LG TV, refrigerator, microwave, and in room safe box. Nyra at the front desk was very kind and friendly. She accommodated our needs, first floor, for disabled seniors. We stayed for 3 nights, M-W. The last night has more guests, and the noise level increased. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay, and would stay again, if Groupon has another offer.

    « Very Accommodating »

This trip was to walk for Susan G. Komen, 3 day, 60 mile walk in San Diego. The hotel was very accommodating for the many rooms it filled with walkers. The lobby was decorated for the group, coffee/tea was available early in the morning for us to pick up shuttle buses to the event, and the staff were very friendly. The tea was not out on the tables, but I travel with tea and a travel mug and the staff provided hot water. We decided to order pizza to be delivered, and they had a couple recommendations and the tri-folds of menus. I would stay here again if I am in the area. The room was very clean and a towel animal was left behind when the room was made up. One day, the towel was the shape of the breast cancer symbol as their support for the cause. Our room was in building 6 which has a view of the marina. It was quiet at night and very spacious. Odd number rooms are upstairs, even downstairs.

    « Dated, but pleasant »

we were in the 800 rooms, supposedly with a view. we were put on the lower floor in a handicapped room (not sure why) and our view was of the parking lot. room is a little dated - small, one chair to sit in. amenities were fine - good soaps, shampoos... two hot tubs to use, which we did. great jets. pool was pleasant. ate at the restaurant - prices a little high for the quality/amount of food. it was good, but not excellent. and the restaurant was VERY noisy (as it was raining outside, so everyone came in). outdoor dining space is excellent. you can have wine and dinner while sitting around a fire pit - very pleasant. front desk crew is EXCELLENT!! professional, polite, friendly, funny.

    « Really great value »

Ask for suite 2200 for this view. Really great value. Perhaps it was an off-peak time but we felt it was a very good value for the quality we received. There isn't any fanfare or commercialization around this property. Just a quiet, pleasant place to stay.

« Great rooms in the 1100 building! »

I was traveling with my small dog to visit my son in San Diego. I was very impressed with the room they gave me as a Best Western platinum member. The grounds were well maintained and I had an ideal area to walk my dog. The restaurant's food was much better than most!

    « Daughter's wedding »

If there were 6 stars I would give the Dana that type of rating. Staff, rooms, grounds all great. The two pools and hot tub were spotless and were we spent most of our time. At night drinks outside under the heated torches were also a highlight. I would say if you are planning a trip to the Dana don't walk, run...it was that great.

« Good place to stay »

We just stayed one night I would have liked to stay more days. The clean was super clean and big, the bathroom small but enough. There was a small fridge and microwave. The wifi worked perfectly. The service was very nice. There are two pools very nice and quite. There is a boardwalk in front of the marina that it's great to go for a walk on sunset time. I would come back, for sure.

    « Overall Okay »

Full disclosure - We booked our room through a discount booking site. I mention that because many hotels have the unfortunate practice of giving customers like us the least desirable rooms. In our case it was win some, lose some. The room itself was a good size, very clean and quiet. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was another matter. It was in great need of a refresh. No, more than a refresh. Everything in it showed significant wear and, defying logic, it was also the place where the in-wall air conditioner lived. Outside, the grounds were very nice with some outstanding views across the water. An evening stroll around the perimeter takes you past the extensive marina to pleasing views of the sunset. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. One big con was that there is nowhere on the property to get a simple meal (Read - hamburger, salad, etc.) after a long day - only a restaurant serving full dinners.

« Mini vacation and business »

Dana is situated on Mission Bay, basically there is only a restaurant on the property, other are further away and cannot be reached on foot. Very green, far away from city. Room was large, clean, well lighted, bed was good, internet speed was sufficient up 10 down 10, rather low.

« The Dana made my wedding Proposal so special! »

Lets start with the check in, The website said the room would be ready at 4pm it was actually ready by 11 am which was awesome. It was so easy to get checked in and find our rooms. Our View was of the bay and of the Firefly Restaurant/ Pool. It was a beautiful sight day and night. Pool and hot tub were super clean and heated. Always freshly dried towels, and cabanas available. The grounds of the hotel were immaculate. The Emplyees of the hotel are always seen hard at work, Cleaning or maintaining the grounds. The room was spotless, smelled fresh and the housekeepers were always around available to help with anything. The bed was so comfy, sheets were clean and the bathroom was freshly scrubbed daily. They also stocked fresh coffee, sugar and creamers daily. The Firefly had yummy food, great quality and fair price. I always went back to my room with leftovers. The waitstaff was so friendly and always had a smile on their face. I need to send a shoutout to our favorite people. The Manager Josh was Freaking Fantastic!!!!! He just got engaged and when he found out my Fiance proposed to me earlier that day, treated us to a complimentary dinner and the Firefly. They brought us a special dessert that said Congratulations on it. I mean come on!!! Ismael who have us great places to visit and a good breakfast joint at 3 Am when we couldn't sleep. The customer service was outstanding and We will Defiantly return to the Dana.

    « We loved it. »

Short visit in San Diego and stayed at the Dana for the first time. A beautiful place, clean and we received a great rate from Travelzoo. Would come back in a heartbeat if I had a chance. The grounds are beautiful and the pools are so nice. Next time in San Diego I won't stay anywhere else.

« Chill tropical 4 star resort hotel on Mission bay »

People were very friendly. Came with friend and dog and got hooked up with a 1st floor lanai room. Shout out to Janessa at the front desk I think for very good customer service. Nice little table to take morning coffee. Nice music at restaurant. Nice view of bay. Nice pool and hot tubs. Nice tropical plants. Easy checkin , checkout. Casual, not stuffy, Downside was high resort fee and fact it doesn't even cover resort amenities like stand up paddle rental which was equal to the resort fee! Pretty hiigh food/drink prices (i guess what do you expect in paradise), hotel bar shut down before 11 on a friday. Overall very pleasant.

« The Dana delivered a great long weekend. »

Huge kudos to The Dana at Mission Bay in San Diego. We had a great trip. Staff were excellent and made it most memorable starting from Aaron who went above and beyond when checking us in to Clara who cleaned our room and left extra treats for our return at the end of the day. We already booked our next stay!

    5
« Help at the front Desk »

Janessa is a fantastic hostess, she is actually a front desk greeter as you enter the Dana. She helped us get onto Uber, gave us some great restaurants to try, generally made our visit a wonderful experience. Thanks Janessa for everything you did for us!!!

    « Luxury accomodations at mid-range price! »

An adult setting that welcomed children, my 2 and 6 year-old grands loved the balcony and walking along the marina path, my daughter and I loved the peace and serenity. Entire staff is efficient and friendly. Seemed everyone, clients and staff, were at ease and content....

    « Perfect! »

After a two week road trip staying in six other hotels, this was a perfectly wonderful ending. The Dana had everything we needed: immaculate rooms, mini kitchen, beautiful views, great restaurant, very nice pool area, and well tended landscaping. We originally booked one night but extended to stay for four because we liked it so much. It seemed to be 15 minutes to all the things we wanted to see: Torrey Pines, La Jolla Shores Beach, Balboa Park and Cabrillo National Park. We checked out three room types and chose a deluxe king with balcony overlooking the harbor. We saw seals chasing fishing boats, gorgeous sunrises, crew teams rowing, joggers, dog walkers and bike riders along the distant paths. We rented bikes one morning and pedaled around Mission Bay--it was wonderful. The room decor was warm beiges with a slight eastern theme, the sofa, chairs, tables, were like new and bathroom was well organized. We would definitely return again.

    « fantastic for family »

Just wanted to give a shout out to this hotel. It was definitely one of the nicest places that we've been to in all of our travels and we found that the staff for unfailingly helpful in all areas. In fact, when I reported my watch missing they took the time to call me back twice here in Canada to tell me that done their best to track it down[quick note- I ended up finding it upon our return :}]Jjust two niggling issues....our room had two queen-size beds and we would have preferred one bed and a sofa to sit on.Plus, the staff told us that the beach would be a 15 to 20 minutes walk, and realistically it requires a rental car or Uber.

« Quick trip to sunny cali »

I booked this hotel because I got a great deal on the price. The staff was great, very kind (they remembered my name and greeted me whenever they saw me). Half of the hotel is a new build and the other half is the original renovated motel-like part. My original room was in the original part and supposedly with a view. The building was on the far end of the property and (800 block). It had a partial view of the marina but the view from the window was non existent. I had a 2 queen room although I requested a king. The room was a nice size and very clean. However I decided to upgrade for the remainder of the trip. My advice: UPGRADE!!! It was worth the money to get the upgrade in a deluxe king Bayview room. This room was huge, had a terrace, and I had views of the marina and bay from sunrise to sunset. The Bayview or waters edge building is in a great location...closer to the Bayview pool, the firefly restaurant and the lobby. The pool and hot tub are open til 11pm! And I think the pool is salt water. I also had room service from firefly restaurant which was great a little more expensive than eating by the beach but not by much. Also choose to use deco bikes to get around there is a station in front of this hotel and it was super convenient. Also uber or lyft are reasonable and reliable to get around to the nearby places you may want to visit. Be aware there is a $27 resort (which includes parking, wifi and ammenities) I did not have a car nor did I use wifi so I think the hotel should just factor this into room pricing overall. I would definitely choose to stay here again...it was a very enjoyable stay.

    « Awesome holiday! »

It would be difficult to improve on our family holiday at this resort. The staff was terrific, the room beautiful, the grounds immaculate, and it was obviously a very well managed hotel. We loved the location with the short distance to lots of attractions, the beach, and choice of restaurants. We hope to return again!

« Great Place to stay in San Diego »

We thought this was a great location during our week stay. We had many trips to the beech, so this was a very short drive. Enjoyed the pools and hot tub on the property, really like being on the bay with all the boats around. Was unable to take advantage of the on site dinning, but it is available. The beds were very comfortable, rooms very clean, just a little small for two beds but we've stayed in smaller. Great showers, really liked the high/cathedral ceiling on our second floor room. Staff was very nice and friendly when we interacted. You won't regret staying here at all.

« Loved the location - super clean »

So much better than the big chain hotels, no high rise here. I can understand why families may stay here for visiting SeaWorld.. Spouse attended a conference nearby and I was able to just relax and enjoy the location with long walks in a quiet boat marina surrounding. Yes, there is at least 1 shy resident seal, many pelicans, seagulls, ducks, egrets, etc. Staff has the "Can Do" attitude as nothing was a problem and all were very eager to ensure our time at the resort was good. Of special note - Alicia of housekeeping was friendly and accommodating with all of my requests. Her smile and happy nature was so appreciated everyday. Hotel room - super clean, lovely Cali decor, good TV channels, fridge, bathrobes, etc. Security - no issues whatsoever, even with a public footpath along the marina front. Restaurant - food was decent and priced mid-range. Laundry - affordable, bring quarters with you, was glad to be able to use the washers/dryers. Pools - hot tubs were a joy during the cooler afternoons/evenings. WiFi - oops, that is where it fell down. Dropped out too many times each day, especially while trying to secure departing flight on lobby computers. Thanks for the coffee with flavoured creams though! Observations - the fact that nearly everyday the resort entertained a day conference or evening/weekend wedding proves that the location is very desirable. Never felt inconvenienced by private functions at all. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

    « 2016 McCoy Wedding »

We got married at the Dana in the Marina Garden and let me just say, it was gorgeous! The weather was perfect, the views were breathtaking, and the ceremony was like a dream. The sales and catering manager, Adrienne, was so helpful and responded to all of my questions in a timely manner. We stayed in the Garden view suite and it was perfect for the bridal dressing room and our honeymoon night. We had a view of the park and the bay! Our rehearsal dinner was held on site at The Firefly restaurant. The food and service was amazing! Oh, and their cappuccino's are a must have!! Most of my wedding guests stayed here and loved the property. My parents were even upgraded to a bigger suite upon check-in. The overall experience was great!

« Great week long romantic getaway »

We loved this hotel and location. From our patio every morning you could see dolphins swim by. One morning i got to see an Orca and baby! A close walk or uber ride to the beaches and restaurants. We also visited old town one day for shopping and authentic Mexican food. The hotel concierge also organized trips into Mexico for guests. The bar by the pool overlooking the harbor had awesome mango margaritas!

    « Loved it »

We were so pleasantly surprised after leaving a blah hotel in Anaheim. Beautiful rooms, robes, pool and hot tub. Waiter service at the pool. Great view from room on the water. Rented a boat too after my son changed his mind on jet skiing after he Saw a sea lion! Would love to go back

« Everyone we dealt with was very pleasant and accommodating. »

This was a quick trip and, unfortunately for us, we were not able to take advantages of the area. The grounds are lovely. I was looking forward to an afternoon by the pool and just relaxing.. But it was not to be. The room was pleasant but not special. The bathroom had the vanity area separate from the shower and toilet area and had two sinks.. Yea... Beds comfortable and toilet amenities very nice. There is a resort fee added to the stay...

    « Great stay »

We attended a family wedding here. Events took place on the property over two days. The front desk staff were preparred, conscientious, and friendly. The service staff couldn't have been better - complete with courtesy, a sense of humor, and helpfulness. The rooms we had were clean and made up daily in spite of the crazy schedules. Couldn't ask for more. And check out the watercraft rentals.

My girlfriend and I highly recommend The Dana!! Upon arriving we were greated by Aaron who took great care of us!! He upgraded our room when my girlfriend told him it was my bday and he was super helpful with any questions we had about the hotel and near by attractions. Do yourself a favor and stop looking around for other hotels. This is the friendliest place to be at a great price! Thanks again to all The Dana staff who made my bday memorable!!!

« Great Location, Beautiful Grounds »

Just returned home from a wonderful stay at the Dana. We have nothing but good things to say about the Dana. The Location was great! Our room (219) was right on the bay with the side window facing the gardens. It was lovely to wake up to the Sunrise on the water and hearing the Birds. The Dana is right by Sea World and offers a free shuttle and discount tickets to the Park. We loved the two pools. Spent every night swimming.... the kids loved the movie at the garden pool every night at 7 p.m. The grounds were emaculate. Beautiful! Our room had a fridge and a microwave. Water pressure was great and it was very clean. The staff very helpful and friendly. The Dana also offered discounted tickets to the U.S.S. Midway, the Zoo and Safari Park. There is a walking path along the Bay for anyone who likes to get out for an early morning run. It is about a 20 minute drive to the Beach and about a 5 minute drive to grocery stores and several restaurants. I would definitely stay here again.

    3
    « It's an inn »

The rooms are just okay. If you want a view, you need to be in the new section or the second floor of two buildings. One restaurant was closed and the other was expensive for an inn. The pool was great.

    « Wedding Planner »

I have had the pleasure of coordinating two weddings at the Dana: one on New Year's Eve and one in mid-October. Both experiences were incredible. Adrienne and the staff were extremely accommodating to sudden changes in the schedule, allowing me to focus on my duties the day of the wedding. While I was greeting vendors and ensuring their contracts were executed, Dave Hopper and his team were setting up the ballroom. I had requested particular tables to be completed first for the photographer to photograph in natural daylight and, to my surprise, the work was completed flawlessly. I look forward to coordinating another wedding at The Dana on Mission Bay and working with this fabulous team again!

    « Delightful Dana »

From the minute we walked into the lobby to check in we felt special. I love it when the staff pays more attention to my dog than me! - Rooms immaculate, grounds groomed walking paths wonderful. Food at the Firefly was good, and loved to be able to sit outside and enjoy the evenings. Next time I want to try one of the suites (they were sold out when I booked). You could tell the guests were having a good time which to me is a great sign of a comfortable, professionally run hotel.

    « Great Family Spot »

We stayed here recently a few days while visiting Seaworld. It was a great place that my family enjoyed. Clean rooms, nice restaurant, and a friendly staff. The best part about this place was the pool. Every night they had a movie and pop corn by the pool. Great family environment. The bartender Paul was an awesome guy and I'd come back to the hotel because of him. Went out of his way to help us out any way he could.

« One of the best place we have ever stayed. »

We are usually Motel6/Super8 people so for us this was one to the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Very close and convenient to the airport but we were not disturbed by noise., Also within 20 mins of most San Diego attractions and beaches. There is a shuttle to Seaworld. Our room looked out over Mission Bay. We enjoyed watching people in the park, rowers on the bay and birds on the shoreline. The room was spacious, quiet, comfortable, clean and very well equipped. Maid service was excellent. The grounds were well maintained and the pool area was clean with lots of chairs/loungers/towels. You can order food and drink at the pool. Ample parking and good reliable internet access which are advertised as free but really are part of the $27/day resort fee. We arrived on Tuesday and left on Sunday and were given a Dana Premier Pass which gave us discounts at the breakfast buffet Tue-Fri. The buffet breakfast was high quality with lots of choices. There was also a room service menu, the prices of which were reasonable. If you did not want the buffet the staff would try to prepare anything you wanted e.g. a choice from the room service menu. The buffet prices were a lot lower midweek than weekend so we had the buffet on those days. The breakfasts were so good we found we did not need to eat again until dinner time. All of the staff we dealt with e.g. registration, checkout, restaurant, maid service were very pleasant and professional.

« Alway a great place to stay when inSan Diego »

The Dana has been our ho to place to stay when visiting San Diego for a number of years now. Lovely property. Well maintained with great water views. I also enjoy the Firefly bar. Staff is always friendly and helpful. One annoyance is the resort fee. They didn't use to charge this. That coupled with charging for parking starts to make you feel nickel and dimed during your stay. Raise your rate if you need to and drop all the extra fees.

    « Amazing stay »

Grabbed a groupon to stay here for a quick night with some girlfriends. The hospitality and staff were so impressive to me. We arrived a bit early, and Danielle was so accommodating and helpful. She set us up to hangout in the pool and even helped put some groceries for the children in a refrigerator for us. That is above and beyond. We were relaxing at the pool and got a call that our room was ready! We didn't expect to have a room til check in. Such an amazing surprise. Hot coffee always ready to go in the lobby was wonderful. The front desk saw that we had empty water bottles and refilled them for us (without even asking!). Room was pleasant, clean and poolside. At 7pm the hotel had a movie night set up for the kids which was cute! Nice touch. Love that they have free parking and wifi. Can't wait to come back!

    « Great Getaway »

This hotel was in a wonderful location; easy to get everywhere we wanted to go. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean; beds very comfortable (always important to me). The pools were wonderful and the grounds are beautiful! We will definitely be back! Our only complaint was the wifi was horrible in the room but we were given a discount of the resort fee to compensate for the lack of internet!

    « Awesome!! »

From the moment I walked into the lobby for check-in, our experience at this hotel was fantastic!! I will definitely stay here again in the future, and will recommend this location to family and friends.

« Great place for corporate event »

I had planned a corporate outing at the Marina Garden at the Dana Hotel and it was amazing. The venue was awesome - it was bordered by rose bushes and trees and you could see the boats docked in the Marina. The staff and bartender was extremely friendly and helpful and everything about the event was awesome. We utilized Adventure Watersports LLC, which is located on the hotel property so we were able to rent some jetskis and kayaks/SUPs for our team. Overall, it was beautiful and so nicely set up, my team wanted to plan another event here again. The catering department was also very well organized and helpful and made planning this event so easy and fun. Thank you!

« Glad we came back! »

This is the second time we have stayed at this great hotel. Once again we loved our time and the staff was excellent. Aaron did an amazing job getting us checked in as well as making us feel like honored guests. I had no idea of the perks of being a returning guest. Thanks Aaron great job!

I can't express enough how The Dana on Mission Bay exceeded our expectations, from the moment we checked in, the service was top notch. Starting when we checked in, to room service, firefly restaurant, bellman, and of course our wedding venue. The wedding ceremony and reception were perfect. The catering staff was amazing, including the bartenders and the food was delicious and I would like to acknowledge Lyle, he was one of the best servers that I have ever come across. I can never say enough about how pleased we were. Adrienne the Catering Director was amazing from the first day that I met her. We will recommend this hotel and visit again very soon Thank you for everything Sharon & Steve

Spent two nights at this hotel for a Birthday celebration. Staff is very professional and friendly. Rooms are large and well appointed. Very clean, We did not eat at the Restaurant as there was only a buffet available for breakfast. Overall a good experience.

« Busines meeting with hotel staff »

I met with hotel staff to discuss several contracts regarding a series of business meetings and a Conference our Association will be having at the Hotel over the next 12 months. Operations Manger Julie, Sales and Catering Manager Danielle and Facilities Manager Cheryl were terrific to work with to discuss and finalize a number of issues regarding the contracts. They were very professional to work with to amend various contract proposals and so knowledgeable in the areas of my concerns. I left the meeting completely satisfied that our contracts were in our best interests and that the hotel managerial staff worked to make sure that everyone was a "winner" with our respective concerns. Other staff that I had interaction with were terrific also: Juan B., Outlets Manager and Juan R., Sydney S. and Salvador C. from the restaurant (the food was also very tasty). Front desk staff, Nery and Arron were so polite, helpful and knowledgeable regarding my questions and concerns. The managerial staff and employees at this hotel are some of the best that I have worked with over the past several years and I would strongly recommend utilizing this hotel for business meetings and conferences, as well as vacations and leisure stays.

« Beautiful Grounds, Great Location »

We had a fabulous stay for 4 nights. The location is amazing. 1 mile from the beach, close to all the tourist attractions. The best part are the beautiful grounds, pools and the great staff! The rooms are a little small (it's an older property), but they are spotless! Comfy beds, microwave, fridge, etc. There is a "resort fee" to consider - but it includes the pool towels, parking, nightly movie and other amenities. I would return again!

I have just stayed for a week at the Dana, it was perfect. Our room had all we needed and looked exactly as the web site showed. Our room had a back door out to a grassed area which was perfect for our little girl to go run around and play. There are two pools on site and they even play movies each night for the children or bigger children at heart! Went walking along the harbor every morning was the perfect way to start the day. The restaurant was great and was always great to stop at for a drink. The staff where attentive and very friendly. We will be back for sure. Location for us was perfect.

« Yes, the Dana has hospitality down! »

We spent 4 nights here w/standard room with a view. I can't honestly think of anything negative to say about our experience. From dining at the firefly to our front desk and housekeeping staff, everything was great. No hassles on special requests and really enjoyed the fact they did not enforce the pool/hot tubs hours. After all your on vacation , right? Very accommodating gift shop w/ breakfast sandwiches and touring advice. Thanks DANA!

« stay at the Bay View »

We went this Summer to The Dana and were very disappointed. Unless you can get the newer three story Bay View Rooms I can't recommend the old part of the Hotel. Our room was worn out, paint peeling, furniture beat up, sliding doors not working to patio, Old Bathrooms, mold in bathroom, cramped room. Poor loose sockets. The Newer part of the hotel was sold out when we were there and almost double the price.. The grounds are lovely and the two pools nice and location. Great view of Sea Worlds Fireworks every night. You can park right next to your room also., and nice walking trails along the bay and a beach near by. We stayed here many times in the seventies and eighties so you know how old the place is. older rooms really need total updating. This is such a lovely setting hate seeing the original rooms neglected.

    « Fabulous »

Loved the place and the great service offered by all the staff, rooms were clean and very comfortable, great view of the san diego bay, close to everything. Kudos to Paul the bartender at the pool he was very friendly and his drinks are great plus he helped us figuring out a list of places to go eat and visit around the area, overall a great experience, definitely recommended, best vacation ever, thanks.

    « Lush Paradise »

This was our second visit to the Dana. We first visited for our 45th wedding anniversary and were upgraded to a junior suite with our Best Western gold member card. This last visit for our birthdays, the room was in a slightly smaller room but again an ADA compliant room which worked great for my husband and me. It made it very easy for us to enter and exit and the shower was perfect for him. We enjoy the beautiful grounds and adjacent marina, also closeness to many attractions. This last trip we visited the Midway aircraft carrier and highly recommend that wonderful experience. The Firefly restaurant is wonderful and always supplies just what we need. Room service is prompt and reasonable.

« Great Resort! Superb Service! »

I booked a 3-day stay at this resort while my son was filming in the area. Not knowing what to expect as we've never stayed here before, I was pleasantly surprised. Josh at the front desk was extremely accommodating and friendly, not to mention professional. We ordered room service and Juan was just as polite as can be. He would not accept any extra tip and was extremely personable, friendly, and far exceeded my expectations. He entered and left with a smile. The staff at the Firefly was also awesome. Clean rooms. Awesome resort. We will definitely visit again.

This was such an awesome experience for my family and friends. We all had a great time. All the staff was very accommodating. Dave Hopper assisted the day of our event! He was very helpful and sweet. Adrienne Hur was my event coordinator and she is so great to work with. I would definitely have another event here in the future!!

    « Very family oriented »

The hotel is older and rustic in many ways, we were first put in a room with a barking dog next door and were moved immediately but there was no bellhop to help with our move so we had to lug all our luggage ourselves 2x. The rooms are clean, the bed was comfy The patio was great but we were right next to the pool and there are many families so lots of noise. The location is great, marina and sea world very close

    « Fantastic experience »

The staff was very friendly and efficient. The room was immaculate, quiet, and had an amazing view of the bay. The bed was very comfortable, and room service was fantastic. The location makes it easy to get to several different beach areas to explore shops and restaurants.

    « Pricey but good »

We have travelled right across Route 66 and this was perhaps the most expensive BW and the smallest darkest room although the nicest grounds. The sting on the price we got was the resort fee at 27$.Not sure why it is so high as every hotel we have stayed at has had a free pool and free parking; all other hotels have included a free breakfast (it's about 18 bucks here for a buffet). All this hotel offers extra, is the chance to watch a free kids movie in the grounds each night and pretty surroundings (pretty but not secure - we saw a street person one day sneaking in to use the loo). Hence why I cannot give this excellent, which I might have done had our room not been a bit depressing. We stayed on 400 block. Room was very dark due to trees outside. Room was clean, beds were good, bathroom small and a bit dated. Pools here are lovely (kids would love them). This block also has the launderette downstairs which we used. The cleaning ladies are excellent and do a great job (Rosalba and Anayssa). Firefly was good for a lunch but evening menu pricey. Sports bar across road offers great fish and chips; shop by Marina sells nice wine, beer and snacks. No8 bus is easy ride to Old Town. It's possible to walk to Mission Beach. Because I did not book direct with BW (an accident at booking) I could not get points added yet another BW resort had managed to get round this, shame. Would I come back, never, there are better places in the world to have a holiday! But if you want a stay in San Diego this is a calmer location than many others.

« It a complete pleasure to stay there! »

All the staff was great, and Marcus at the front desk made sure that our stay there would keep bringing us back. He is a professional member of the team and we really did appreciate all the service he gave us! The room was very nice and clean and so was the grounds around the building. We stayed there for 7 days and will be returning next summer! Thanks again to Marcus and the Team for making our vacation an enjoyable one!

« San Diego for the first time »

Having researched TA forums, we selected the Dana at Mission Bay for a first time visit to San Diego. We found the facility to be conveniently located (near airport). The grounds are beautiful and lush. I was a little concerned about the age of the property as it was brought up in a few reviews, While older (we stayed in the 400 building) it is very well kept and is aging gracefully. The marina makes for a scenic setting right on the bay. All in all a great choice and could not be more pleased.

    « Great Conference/Relaxation Location »

Attended a conference here recently, and loved its location as well as the effort everyone went to in ensuring our event went smoothly. Special props to the driver of the hotel Sea World shutttle who took me, my bike and my flowers where we needed to go. Also special props to Dave H. who went far out of his way to ensure all of us were well fed and wanted for nothing during meals and conference events. Thank you both especially - your customer service made a huge difference! See you next year.

I went to a workshop at the Dana and loved the setting with the bay and boats right out front. Our group had an excellent catered fiesta buffet. I want to especially thank Dave Hopper for his hospitality and making us feel welcomed and taken care of. The Dana is now one of my favorite places to have an outstanding lunch. Thanks

    « 5 Night Stay »

Overall very nice stay at the Dana. Very close to Sea world. We walked to Sea World (about 15-20 minutes) and took the shuttle the hotel provides back. The shuttle runs constantly between 9:30 am-10:30 am and between 4:30 pm -5:30 pm. All you have to do is look for the very clean black shuttle with DANA on the licence plate. The hotel is within 10-20 minutes of all the main tourist attractions in San Diego. Recommend paying a little extra for the Bay View room on the 2nd or 3rd floors. We had a 2nd floor room in the 1000 building, very nice view (Room 1210). Had a minor issue with a malfunctioning light switch in the bathroom, but the staff took care of it right away. Parking lot is very tight, don't recommend bringing a vehicle in much larger than a minivan. Salt water pools and hot tubs were very nice and not very busy. the tropical pool by the older buildings showed kids movies from about 7-9pm. Didn't have a chance to eat at the Firefly restaurant, but we were going to eat breakfast there until we found out there was no menu during the week, buffet only which is 18.50 a person. I was not about to spend that on 3 little boys that wouldn't eat that much for breakfast. There was other little cafe's, I HOP, and Denny's not to far away (10 minute drive). Rented a speed boat from adventure water sports that is right on site by the Bay Side pool. Little expensive, but had a great time on the bay for a couple hours. There was no discount for being a hotel guest which I found a little strange. Room was clean everyday when we came back (behind the nightstand and beds could use a little more attention). TV was big, refrigerator, microwave, and even a kitchen sink were nice touches in the room. Room service menu didn't look too expensive either. Check in and check out was very easy, even allowed us a late checkout at 1 pm. After 1 pm they will charge $50 for the next hour and a full day after that. There was a lot of homeless people in the area on Mission Bay Blvd but they didn't bother anyone on the hotel property. Overall nice stay and would definitely stay there again.

« Great location and pools »

We were in town for a wedding and stayed at The Dana for five days. This hotel is in an excellent location--close to all the tourist attractions we wanted to visit: Mission Beach, San Diego Zoo, etc. Our daughter loved the pools and it was nice to have a restaurant on site. We ate twice at the restaurant, which was a bit pricey, but the food was excellent. There were beach chairs, umbrellas, toys, and boogie boards available at the front desk--such a great idea so we didn't have to spend time at Target trying to find beach items. Staff was friendly and cleaning staff did a wonderful job!

    « Fantastic hotel! »

Very nice hotel in mission bay. Rooms are not very modern but our room had a patio with direct access to the swimming pool, which was absolutely great. The hotel has a great restaurant with delicious food. Free car park and free shuttle to sea world. Very friendly staff. We will definitively come back. Overall fantastic value for money.

    5
    « Close to sea word/pb & mission beach »

Went for a quick weekend. Great friendly staff. We were able to check in at 10 am which was great. Got a pool key for after checkout. There are two pools but they can get kind of busy. Great place for families with family movies at night and free kid meals with adult meal at hotel restaurant. We walked to sea world (14 min walk) but they also have a shuttle every five mins. Beds were comfortable but pillows were not so maybe bring your own pillow.

« Loved the cleanliness of the Hotel »

The area is excellent, close to everything we wanted to see. The hotel is very clean and the staff is excellent. The only thing that was poor was the hot water, very little of it; other than that, I really enjoyed my stay and will definitely come again.

    « Very nice and friendly staff!v »

I was staying for five nights in this hotel and I was a bit scared because it was my first time traveling alone to San Diego. I live in Amsterdam so that's pretty far from home. The staff was very nice to me and made me feel comfortable during my stay. They reassured me about the safety in San Diego. I rented a car and was very scared driving down town and they made sure I would not get lost by providing me the directions. They were very helpful with informing me about the fun things to do such as SeaWorld. The hotel can also provide cheaper tickets. My room was very clean and the house keeping was great. Restaurant was a bit pricy, but food was good. Pool and Jacuzzi was very nice as well. I would like to show my appreciations to the girl at the lobby who helped me with checking in and out. Her name is Janessa and she was such a delightful girl to talk to. Very helpful, understanding and friendly. I would definitely come back just for her excellent service and amazing hospitality.

This will be our go to hotel in San Diego from now on. Amazing hotel with incredible staff. Loved everything about our stay. Staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. Always made sure we were happy. Loved the location. This is what a San Diego vacation is about. Loved having the shuttle for Sea World available. Food at the restaurant was great. Loved the pool area especially at night. Will definitely be staying again.

    « Recent holiday »

We have just spent 5 brilliant days at the Dana exploring San Diego. I was a little worried when booking about the rooms having had pets in but our room was spotless and beautifully clean and comfortable, no signs of any pets ever having been in the room. In fact I think there is a block of rooms they keep specifically for pets to stay. We had a first floor room overlooking the marina was quiet we were never disturbed by other guests. The staff are so helpful and always ready to help. Food excellent. Great location to explore San Diego - Seaworld is within walking distance or you can take the hotel shuttle. Downtown San Diego is best explored using the trolley which you pick up in the Old Town. We will definitely go back as we ran out of time to do all that we had planned. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the Dana to anyone.

« A good place with location & ambiance to stay »

This is a very good place with good location , ambiance and setup. View was excellent and so was the up keep. Only bad point was that the tea maker was not good. The basic crockery, cutlery was missing. Disposable glasses are nor convenient and comfortable at such good places.

« Much needed relaxing girls trip. »

Our room was beautiful, the view of the bay was amazing and peaceful (until the last day when there was a boat race nearby). I'm a very light sleeper and our room was very quiet. There were families on both sides of us and we never heard a noise from either side. The grounds were beautiful. The food at the restaurant was delicious. The staff was excellent and the cleaning staff did a wonderful job. Very close to Mission Beach and just across the street from several sightseeing opportunities. I definitely recommend The Dana on Mission Bay. As a special note - if you get a chance - try and make it to the Cravory Cookie Shop in San Diego, best cookies I've ever eaten!

« Our third visit to the Dana Inn and we'll be back again. »

We reserved in the spring of 2016 for our visit this year. We got a great rate and the hotel continues to meet or exceed all expectations. We rented a 2-bedroom standard room in the older but nicely refurbished section in 2014 and again this year this year. We had a suite in one of the two newer buildings with incredible views that easily slept six in 2015. Our family group had grown from 4 to 5 for just the first night...but the Dana (and most of the other hotels in the area) were full on that Saturday night. The hotel staff was most accommodating and volunteered to remove a desk to place a roll-away bed for us. When we first started looking for accommodations, we were seeking a vacation rental house or apartment but the flexibility and service of the Dana has won us over.

    « Conference and Stay »

I was a part of putting on a conference that was recently hosted by The Dana on Mission Bay. The staff there was extraordinarily helpful, specifically the team that helped set up our presentation equipment (David, and Dave Hopper are a few of the names I can remember.) We were a bit needy but they were always willing to assist and go above and beyond our coordinator Cheryl (I believe her name was) was absolutely fantastic and helped in every way possible. The hotel stay was great, the hotel rooms were clean and well maintained.

« Good location, nice room »

Stayed here on a quick trip with my son for a Padres game. The location is great. Right on the water by SeaWorld with no more than a 15 minute drive to Old Town, Downtown, Petco Park, etc. The resort grounds are very well maintained. The rooms are small but nice. Would stay here again.

« The Dana Let Down »

My daughter and I booked six days at The Dana On Mission Bay. Its a beautiful location on a Marina, close to Mission Beach, Sea World, Old Town San Deigo, The San Deigo Zoo, and the airport. When checking in I asked about the 20% food vouchers I was too receive because it was included in my reservation. package. The women at the front desk informed me there are no vouchers and that was the only explanation I received. It didn't seem right to me so I sent a message to my travel agent to verify and confirm. My Travel agent called the hotel to find out what happened to the vouchers and sent me a message that yes I was to receive them. I never did. The lady at the front desk told me to save my receipts and they would credit me at check out. We stayed in a Bay View room and it was on the ground floor. We didn't get a choice of the level but if I did I would of chose the second floor. The view is great but the foot traffic back and forth in front of our balcony was very loud and distracting. The hotel has one restaurant, The Firefly. We ate there a few times. When paying for our meals they asked me if I had my vouchers. I knew something was not right. If you are not driving I recommend you down load the Lyft app. They are comparable to Uber but good service and cheaper rates. I used this transportation service everyday and was very happy with it. We used Lyft to go to Gaslamp Quarter, Old Town to eat, shop, and view the sites. At check out I presented my food receipts and asked about my discounts. The same lady I have dealing with my entire stay told me it was already credited back to my card. I explained how can that be when I paid using my bank check card, not my credit card which I provided at check in for incidentals. I did not receive a clear response but I had to get to the airport so I didn't inquire any further. Three days later I receive a message from my Credit Cards Fraudulent department. They ask me to confirm an attempted on line purchase of $3,500 from Sam Club. Someone tried three times. I contact them immediately and tell them no. I don't even have a membership there. I find the timing such a great coincidence that the card compromised is the same card I provided The Dana to use for my incidentals. I am so disappointed with the experience I encountered with this one particular staff member. initials NDIAZ. I believe I was lied to and very lucky to have avoided being stolen from. Not acceptable period. Aside from the beautiful views and convenient location, I will never return to this hotel again.

« Pleasant stay with some exceptions »

I am from the San Francisco Bay area and haven't been down to San Diego for over a year and a half. I wanted to visit the USS Midway Museum and was looking for a nice place to stay and a nice place to eat as well. The Dana on Mission Bay had good rates, a small restaurant and (surprise) a seafood restaurant right across the street - Sportsmen's Seafood. The rooms are comfortable, clean and the staff is quite accommodating. As I understand it, this is the closest hotel to Sea World. My only complaint is that the hotel runs a movie, nightly, in the pool area. My room, unfortunately, was facing the pool. The staff was willing to relocate me, but assured me that the film would be over before 9:30 pm. It ended at 9:15. All was quiet and I had a good nights sleep. Another surprise is that they charge for both parking and WiFi and do not inform the guests of this until you are checking out ($27 a day). All in all it was a pleasant stay and I'll probably stay here again.

« Amazing wedding at great hotel! »

We loved having our wedding at the Dana Hotel. All different locations at the venue are beautiful and look amazing in pictures. Adrienne, the Director of Catering, is very responive, organized and a pleasure to work with. She was always available to answer questions and made sure everything was exactly how we wanted for our big day. We had a stunning outdoor ceremony overlooking the bay, a garden cocktail hour and gorgeous reception overlooking the marina. Our guests loved the place and the food at the wedding. We recommend the Dana to all couples who want to have a romantic, elegant and beautiful outdoor wedding!

« Tropical retreat that won't break the bank »

Just got back from spending 3 days here for our anniversary. LOVED IT. I'd recommend visiting during the off season since there were less tourists around and we got a better deal on the room. Everything was great, room was spacious, gorgeous view of the bay and it was very clean. The pool was great (read clean, plenty of cabanas and chairs and almost no kids around!). Watercraft rentals can be pricey but it's worth doing if you have the means. Food at Firefly Restaurant was great. Staff was courteous and friendly. We had a great trip, I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to get away for a weekend. PROS: Great location (Close to SeaWorld, Downtown, Freeways & Bay!) Clean & spacious rooms with great views! Excellent food at Firefly Pools & Water Rentals within walking distance & well maintained Got a great rate in the off season Friendly Staff CONS Meals & Watercraft rentals can be a little pricey Visiting during the Summer season will probably mean higher room rates.

    « Had a wonderful time »

This was a perfect place to stay not only the hotel itself but where it was located. You could ride a bike to the Bay, to the ocean beaches and to SeaWorld! A short 10-15 minutes in the car and we were at the Downtown sea port village. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is well kept, the pools and Jacuzzi's were very large and had plenty of seating. We stayed the week after Labor Day so the crowds had already left and it was so quiet and relaxing. We rented bikes right outside our door and rode to the beach to have breakfast it was delightful! Our room was very nice the beds were comfortable with LOTS of pillows. The rooms have a fridge, microwave, and small coffee maker. The front desk gal was nice enough to put us in a room over looking the boats it was so pretty to see them every morning. We also were able to see the fireworks from SeaWorld from the door to our room which was an added bonus! We will definitely be back!

    « This IS a resort »

Our recent stay at the Dana on Mission Bay was simply beautiful. It was more of a resort than I expected, and it made my stay in the San Diego area a relaxing experience. I originally booked a non-view double queen, but asked for a king with an extra bed at check in without any problem. We were assigned to the 100 building on the first floor and had a nice patio with gated access to the pool. This was so convenient as we could walk out to the pool area where there was a bar and plenty of loungers. We enjoyed watching movies on the pool deck every night. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The extra bed was actually a twin sized airbed that we were able to deflate daily in less than a minute to make more space for moving around. We had dinner at the Firefly and were not disappointed: absolutely delicious with fantastic service. The gift shop was also a great choice for a quick breakfast sandwich and other grab and go options. The onsite rentals proved to be a great way to spend afternoon. We took jet skis out on the bay and had a blast! An hour was plenty of time to play. It was so convenient to grab the comfortable, short shuttle ride to Sea World and the drivers were helpful in providing driving directions to other local stops. It was less than a 15 minute drive in traffic to the zoo and downtown area. We booked the "linger longer" rate and the reduced resort fee included internet, parking, shuttle to SeaWorld, coffee/water in the room as well as other items that are usually tacked on to the end of the bill. I had no trouble billing bar and restaurant fees to my bill during the stay. Above all, the landscaping and low architecture at this resort made it feel like a true tropical resort. I enjoyed the many different plants and hidden gardens throughout. I will definitely stay here again when visiting the area.

    « Beautiful resort »

My fiancé surprised me with a trip here for my birthday. The grounds are so beautiful, the rooms are clean and well kept and they have two really nice pools both with bar service. I highly recommend this location for a romantic getaway or anything really.

    « Great hotel »

We had a WONDERFUL time at the Dana. We are from the midwest and are accustomed to "midwest nice" but the staff at the Dana exceeded that and went above and beyond. Particularly, we were having car issues the first day and one of the maintenance men, Jaime, noticed the problem and stopped to tell us. He then spent 15 minutes of his time fixing it for us then walked away without asking for anything. Absolutely wonderful. Thank you!

« An older hotel, very conveniently situated »

The Dana was obviously built to accommodate visitors of Sea World. It's not new and the older rooms are a little lacking in space. Should we return, we would ask for a suite in the newer section. Staff was friendly, rooms are well kept and the pool is great, plus it's proximity to the marina makes this hotel uniqu. It was perfectly situated near to surrounding beaches and attractions and our stay was very enjoyable.

« Nice hotel, convenient to sea world »

We stayed here for 2 nights in August because it was so convenient to Sea World and the San Diego Zoo. This is literally right next door to sea world and very convenient. The hotel grounds are great! It's spread out over a large area so there is plenty to walk around and see. They had movie night at one of the pools, and they are right at the marina. Very kid friendly. The rooms were just "okay". Nothing special, just Normal rooms, and ours wasn't very large, but it was fine for two nights. The only strange thing was we were on the second floor in one of the buildings, but there didn't seem to be an elevator! Seemed strange lugging our luggage up the stairs. We must have missed the elevator somewhere?? Recommend for a family place to stay.

    « Wonderful Hotel! »

We booked the handicapped accessible room in the Water's Edge - totally worth the money - great view - great amenities - very comfortable bed. Loved the balcony and the quality of the furnishings. We slept great and enjoyed walking around the grounds which are beautifully manicured. The service was excellent. We will be back!

    « recommend! »

I've stayed at a lot of hotels in San Diego (for work and leisure) and this is by far my favorite hotel in San Diego. The hotel is centrally located in Mission Bay, an easy distance from most places you'll want to visit in San Diego. The Dana feels like a little world unto itself. It's expansive grounds, location right in Mission Bay park and almost tropical atmosphere make you feel like you're at a little resort. There are jogging/bike paths, a marina, and rental bikes right there at the hotel. Check-in is always smooth and professional. Their pool is great, too. It's not one of those dingy hotel pools that you never see anyone in, the guests actually use it. The restaurant on site, the Firefly, has everything you need and at reasonable prices. Overall, a really pleasant place to spend a weekend!

    « Exceptional Resort »

The ONLY negative I have is the hot tub was not available. There was a wedding the day we were there and I can understand why--the grounds and the views are beautiful with access from land or water. Rent boats, bikes, jet ski's, etc.... I didn't get to use the pools but they have nightly movies at the one pool. Walk or bike to Sea World. I didn't eat or drink there but I saw a bar at at least one of the pools. I would love to go back with a longer stay.

    « filthy carpets »

the outside of the hotel is pretty nice, restaurant was great, however, after taking a shower and walking in the room barefoot for 30-60 minutes our feet were black due to the FILTHY carpet. When reported our concerns to the front desk, all we got was an insincere "sorry" will NEVER be back, despite what they got right, clean carpets are a basic MUST, not having those earns them a 1/5. Lets not forget about their $27/night hidden "resort fee"

    « Can't wait to go back »

I stayed here for two days for a wedding. The property, room, service, everything was five stars. I'm limiting myself because that's the max I can give. If I could give 10, i would. From the beginning to end, everything was great. Samantha, the girl that checked us in, was very warm and welcoming. Our housekeeper Jenny was attentive and friendly, Nick and Alex at the Firefly were great. Juan the manager also even checked up on us during dinner to make sure everything was OK. Vanessa at the front desk gave us some good brunch recommendations. Vanessa also helped us at checkout, so friendly! My daughter and I had the time of our lives and we can't wait to go back!

« Stayed the weekend with kids »

My family just stayed here for the weekend and had a wonderful time. The person that checked us in was super helpful and awesome - I think her name was Samantha she gave us some solid recommendations on what to do while staying at the hotel. They had a movie night by the pool for the kids, told us that we can watch the fireworks by the docks at night etc. She recommended a few of her local favorites restaurants for brunch. She recommended we try the brussels sprouts at the firefly which is the restaurant in the hotel. The Brussel sprouts are really good and a must try!

    « Seeing our grandson »

Everything was very good, the grounds are amazing. The registration area was pleasant and the staff was great. They gave us a VIP card for a restaurant at the beach area which was very helpful. The bedroom did not have any sitting except for one. There where three chairs and a table in the patio which helped while we were visiting but a little hard to sit on. The house keeping staff were always very pleasant and helpful.. The restaurant breakfast was very pricey if you just wanted an egg and toast.

« Energy savings affects comfort!!! »

while I truly enjoy the location and how clean, friendly the staff was. I do not appreciate the hotels effort of controlling the temp. The refrigerator temp control was taken off!! thus my kids milk can spoil easily!! The room temp has a set timer. I set my temp at 68 at all times however, by midnight the temp rises to 73!! I have to reset again to 68. I hate waking up in the middle of the night to set the temp. I tried to reset the time but you need a code to reset everything. The check in is truly at 4pm!! no room was available when we arrived at 2:30pm. It is a good location close to everything!!

The bayside rooms were beautiful. Pool right outside the door. Weekly buffet is an excellent value and delicious. Bianca , our server each day, brought a smile with excellent service. Other staff were friendly and helpful. John in the main lobby gave excellent guidance on activity selection. Thank you for making our week stay memorable.

« Beautiful wedding venue and amazing staff »

My wife and I just got married at the dana this past weekend. The venue location was the wife's choice and I was just kind of going along for the ride. However, during the entire process of wedding planning, I saw how stressful it was and did my best to offer my support. While we had our own wedding coordinator to help with a lot of the planning, planning the wedding at the dana was made simpler by the amazing staff that they have. They were friendly, cordial, and their onsite coordinator, Adrienne, answered all the questions and concerns that we had up to the day of the wedding. During the wedding itself, Dave made sure that the wedding went smoothly. His friendly approach really made us feel comfortable throughout our entire wedding, and although we didn't ask for much, he was always on hand to make sure we had what we needed. This really helped to put us at ease and to enjoy our wedding. All in all, my wife and I could not have made a better choice for a wedding venue, the staff and location are incredible and the price is very reasonable for the destination location.

The Dana Inn was fantastic! We didn't realize that when we booked the Dana that is was t he same place we stayed on our honeymoon 27 years ago. They have made it even more beautiful. The rooms were awesome and the breakfast bar was fabulous!I would highly recommend staying here! Also, the people who worked there were so nice, cheerful, friendly and helpful

    « Restful picturesque resort »

Great location.. a tranquil harbor that opens to the calm bay is steps away from your room. They have a water sport rental hut... kayaks, jet ski, paddle board and paddle boats. We rented a pontoon boat for $130 for the hour. Split cost with friends, bring picnic, tootle around the bay and see seals and lots of bird life. 2 pool areas is nice, with a bartender with a heavy pour! Very clean rooms, with robes! Buffet is delicious too, with lovely outdoor ambiance. Some rooms have noisy air conditioners but others don't. The airport is nearby, but planes don't distract too much.

    « Relaxing and Beautiful »

We spent the last week at this beautiful hotel. Being from San Diego we come back often and this is one of the best hotels we have stayed at recently. Our room in the 2000 building was large, with a balcony that looked right over Mission Bay. The grounds are well taken care of, restaurant delicious, and staff helpful. It's close to everything and is a perfect vacation or staycation destination.

« Outstanding property and staff »

Wonderful well kept property right on the water...don't be fooled by it's age or the fact it is exterior corridor. Rooms were clean and well appointed..all the fun things to do were just minutes away. Staff welcomed us and was there for our every need...from attraction tickets to on-site boat rental. Will stay here every time in SD.

    « Quite impressed!!! »

My husband and I stayed at the Dana for just one night. After such a wonderful time, we wished we had booked a longer stay! We are locals and decided on a quick staycation. We were not disappointed! From the moment we checked in, we were impressed with the customer service. We arrived early hoping to check in and because our room was not ready, Janessa at the front desk offered us a free upgrade from a standard room with a view to a deluxe room with a view. Janessa was personable, friendly and everything a front desk customer service agent should be. She offered us recommendations and gave us all of the info we needed for our stay. The room met our expectations and then some. It was clean, spacious and the view was outstanding!! WOW! There was a balcony that overlooked the bay and it was a gorgeous sight. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and definitely the kind of bed that you don't want to get out of!! We enjoyed the pool and there was even a fun ping pong table, too. We also used the gym faciity and that might be the only thing that was disappointing. There were only treadmills, elliptical machines and a few free weights. It would have been nice to have more machines. Finally, I accidentally left my bathing suit in the bathroom and remembered hours later after we checked out. I was afraid it may have been thrown out by the maids. I called the front desk and they directed me to the lost and found department where I left a message. I got a call back and they had my suit! They even offered to mail it to me! Great service all around and I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway!

    « Its ok »

Hotel ok room kinda small 28 dollars a day resort fee thats a joke just tell me the price of the room stop disguising it by saying resort fee. Have not been to San Diego in about ten years wow they have a homeless problem this isn't the fault of Hotel but homeless people sleeping in bushes. Saw homeless lady taking a bath in hot tub staff just walk by didn't do anything until we went to office and complained. They escorted her out finally you would think they would have drained the hot tub or at least closed it and cleaned it but no unsuspecting families got into that sick water, after that my family did not us any of the pools. Staff very nice just a little pricey for what you get. Back to San Clemente for us nicer and less expensive bigger rooms

    5
    « Perfect! »

I have to laugh at some of these reviews...I was very nervous to book this Hotel based on some review that it received, but I was so pleasantly surprised at how wonderful it is, the rooms are clean, modern and comfortable. The staff are nice and helpful! We stayed for 7 nights and loved every minute, the fireworks every night at Sea World were a bonus! I would definitely stay here again and plan on it very soon. I hear complaints about the 27.00 resort fee, but I am a huge coffee drinker and I always needed extra everyday for my room , they delivered right away every time! Do not listen to the Debbie Downers that cannot afford to stay at those high priced Hotels in the area, but want gold and satin and high noon tea. This place is exceptional!

    « You won't be disappointed »

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a family wedding we attended. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and spacious. I loved how it was decorated, theres a lot of room and the view of the bay is something you want to see first thing in the morning as you enjoy your coffee. The hotel is quiet, the staff is friendly and the check in/out process is quick. This hotel is located close to mission bay, sea world....all the major San Diego attractions. Can't wait to stay there again in September

    « The Dana »

We were very please with the accommodations made for us. Aaron and Vanessa were very helpful in finding a room that made it much easier for my husband, as he has had a permanent knee injury and the first room was difficult to access. I highly recommend getting one of the junior suite rooms thanks again Vanessa and Aaron!

    « Pleasant; well-maintained; picturesque location. »

Friendly, helpful, accomodating staff. Easy check-in and check-out. Attractive grounds, gardens, pool areas. Close to SeaWorld. Pleasant, spacious room with balcony view of Mission Bay. Well-maintained pools. Great breakfast buffet. Bear in mind that while you can walk to the ocean, it's about a 25-minute walk one-way for adults along a busy road; I wouldn't walk it with children. So if you plan to go to Mission Beach, you'll need car transportation, or at least a bike. We rented bikes at Cheap-Rentals on Mission Blvd. We mostly used cabs to get around the San Diego area. (We relied quite a bit on a cab-driver named Johnny, who was a real gentleman and can be reached at 619-890-7957.)

« Wonderful stay at The Dana »

Just spend five days at "The Dana" with my family. It was our fourth time visiting San Diego but first time staying at The Dana. I made the choice based on location and reviews from trip advisor. My family and I were not disappointed at all. The grounds were beautiful. Views of the bay and the marina seem to surround the hotel grounds. Our room was 1109 and had a perfect view and was very spacious. A nice tropical theme throughout the hotel. The best thing about staying there was the wonderful staff who went out of their way to provide first class customer service. Special kudos to "Janessa" at the front desk who was always so welcoming and made sure our stay was perfect. Our shuttle driver to Sea World "MR" was so friendly and talkative. Also "Yolanda" from Housekeeping who made sure our room was spotless everyday and she also made a special towel dog with mints on our last night. Our kids loved walking into our room after a long day at Sea World and seeing that special surprise on the bed. Thanks to everyone at The Dana. We will definitely make this our home hotel while visiting San Diego in the future!!!!! The Kawasaki Family

Aaron at the front desk is amazing! We were here for a wedding and the first night we had a bonfire on the beach. Wood was plentiful but we had no paper to start it. Aaron got us the box under the paper shredder and saved the day (night) Everyone at the front desk were fun, friendly, and enthusiastic

    « Awesome service »

Aaron at the front desk exceeded all of our expectations! He was out going and took the extra time to ensure our stay was wonderful. I was impressed that the resort has 2 beautiful pools and a fantastic restaurant. The junior suite was perfect for a birthday get away!

« Great bay views and convenient location »

I spent 4 nights here and would definitely come back. The property is huge and sits right on the bay, so you have easy access to walking paths as well as water rentals on property. The location is super convenient to pretty much everything you would want; I took Uber everywhere and no ride cost more than $12, with the average under $6. I had a room with bay views, which was pretty cool for watching the boats float in and out of the bay. The room was clean and spacious, and had a fridge/microwave/coffee maker if you wanted to keep snacks on hand, but the on-site restaurant has a great menu and drinks.

We stumbled upon this hotel last minute and are so happy we did but bummed we only could stay one night. Gorgeous views, beautiful pool, friendly staff and we loved the room! « "Heavenly" Two Weeks away from Az., in beautifully Cool weather. »

We just returned from two weeks of a truly enjoyable vacation at The Dana. We could not be more pleased with our time in San Diego. From the moment we checked in until the moment we left, the entire staff was most accommodating. Our housekeeping lady, Guille, was most pleasant, and asked us everyday if we needed anything. Great personality and very thorough. Our room which was a suite on the second floor facing the Bay with it's own covered balcony and kitchenette was just perfect. The only we issue we had during our stay was the hide a bed needed to be replaced, but the staff replace the bed, no questions asked. Additionally, every morning at the restaurant both Brian and Ashley greeted me and treated me like a king, remembering my name. They were both very attentive and welcoming. Once again, outstanding service. I strongly recommend The Dana as a destination vacation spot. We have already booked our stay for next year..Enjoy.

« In a town full of sad hotels, this one is better than most! »

Prime location by the marina on West Mission Bay, right by Sea World, lots of amenities including shuttle service, a restaurant on site, with full breakfast buffet, ample parking. The rooms were a good size, smelled clean, A/C blasting away the 100+ degree heat, fluffy pillows, complimentary bottles of water, it was a very comfortable stay & would recommend to others.

« Nice place to sleep »

Room was clean upon arrival, but smaller than I envisioned from the picture no sofa, just two beds, i guess we had ti request the sofa 2Q room, very tight quarters not really enough room for 4 people to put all their luggage, for a short trip, we didn't want to put it in the dresser. We were there 2 1/2 days and never received any room cleaning except a late night knock the second day, we had just gotten back from being gone most of the day, so we just asked them to empty the garbage. The staff was extremely nice. No fan in the bathroom, A/C unit in the vanity area of bathroom not out by beds. It was close to the wedding venue and Sea World, but not sure I would stay again.

    « Destination Wedding Venue »

We stayed for five nights and loved the Dana. The location is excellent. Quick Uber ride to Pacific Beach bars and restaurants or into Little Italy. Plenty for kids to do from Sea World to the Midway. The grounds provided a backdrop for the picture perfect wedding and the ballroom was very nice. There are two pools with bar service and a nice restaurant on the property. You can rent bikes, paddle boards, and jet skis. The place is very big with different buildings from different eras so room rates vary widely depending on where your room is. If you want the best rooms, ask for bay view in the buildings numbered 1000 or 2000. These rooms are perfect with a balcony overlooking Mission Bay. The staff was wonderful and extremely helpful. We will definitely stay there again when we visit San Diego.

My wife and I spent about a week at the resort. The resort was great. On the bus lines, Uber friendly and close to the beaches. « Still loving the Dana »

It has been ten years since we started staying at the Dana (we go every July). The front desk clerk (Aaron) was very polite and accommodating. We stay in the bay view deluxe room, which is higher in price than the old section, but worth it! Our rooms were always cleaned each morning (thanks Guille) and their little shop is always a pleasure to go to (thanks always for being so friendly Kathleen and even remembering me). I love their pool and the big old beautiful (pine or oak) tree outside the pool area. This is our place to stay at every time we visit San Diego. Can't wait to go back (maybe earlier than next July)!

« Nice stay at nice hotel »

We really enjoyed our weekend stay here. John at the front desk was very accommodating and made sure we had a nice room with a bay view for our anniversary. The standard rooms with 2 queen beds are basic but are comfortable and nicely equipped with a refrigerator, water and coffee. The service was exceptional everywhere and the food at the Firefly restaurant was great. There was really good live music on the patio during happy hour, dinner and brunch. There are two pools with hot tubs, an exercise room, lovely landscaped tropical grounds, and water sport/ bike rentals. Free parking was a nice plus.

    « Glorified motel »

Took two room changes and an upgrade before getting a decent hotel room with space and views. The others are in typical motel style with car parking outside the door. The first room wasn't what I'd booked and the second had no natural lighting such that in California we needed the light on all day. A noisy air conditioning unit in the bathroom but none in the bedroom. Food trays left outside rooms for up to 24 hours. All of the above were referred to the hotel but no comment received. Too many weddings and birthday groups where the residents became subsidiary; children allowed to eat in the pools. Parking was supposed to be limited to registered guests of the relevant rooms yet most nights I could not get parked. The staff were excellent and very friendly. It is management that needs to be addressed.

    « Great hotel »

Great hotel in San Diego. We stayed there four nights and its a nice place. The rooms are clean and spacy. Fitnessroom a little bit small. The pool was nice for the kids. The hotel is close to the beach. We would like to go back to this really place.

    « Seaworld Vaca »

Checked in on a Friday (late and they were very accomodating) and out Sunday. Not the resort type of property I was thinking it was. Rooms are more motel like and too small for 4 people in the 2 queen we ended up in. Was also extremely muggy and uncomfortable and the window air unit did nothing to help this. Very busy property, even after 10p at night and it's a tight fit for vehicles. The price I paid I would have expected more. The staff was friendly, grounds were pretty and room service great (very expensive though!).

    « A fun place for families »

The Dana on Mission Bay is a fun place to stay for all ages! They have a shuttle service to Sea World since they are so close. Aaron, at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. He made our check in go smoothly even though there were 19 people in our party!

    « Needs a major renovation »

I stayed at Dana on Mission Bay this past July from Monday through Friday. As everyone else raved, the view is extraordinary and can't be beat. However, this hotel is not a 4-5 start hotel as I have stayed at many of such hotels and this hotel cannot be ranked the same. Pros: the front-desk people are usually very professional and accommodating. However, when I went and spoke with John about a suggestion of not replacing a door lock during when a customer is staying, he wasn't very attentive (still typing away on his keyboard) and immediately went to give me a coupon of some sort. I declined the offer because I genuinely wanted to provide my suggestion. The ocean view is great if you are staying at the new building. We mistakenly chose the ocean view room (not the suite) which ended up a view of the parking lot with people walking by right in front of my door like a Motel 6. Cons: It was very odd that the hotel decided to replace the room lock for my room during my stay. The hotel employee who came by to warn me about the disruption said that the locksmith will work only on the outside. This actually turned out that at 10:30 am in the middle of my and my daughter sleeping, they were opening the door with a drill and working IN the room, spraying all the saw dust flying on the bed and in the room. I have never experienced this in the life of me. If you want to go there, pay more than the absurd amount that you would pay for the regular room and go to the new suits.

« Not bad for a few days »

Great Hotel in an great location. Near Pacific Beach and Mission Bay. But not really for a Family Stay. We're one week here and was enough. Lot of noise at the Pool area! Personal is really helpful and nice!

« Ok stay with two little kids »

On the plus side, the staff was very friendly, the pool / amenities were nice, and then main hotel restaurant had good food and drink. Then neither a plus or a minus but to set expectations, the rooms are motel style and the views from the rooms were fine but not special. We had two little kids with us, and the noise from people celebrating the fourth of July was a problem and kept us up at night. While lots of things were nice about the Dana, I also felt it was on the expensive end for what you get. Bottom line, would I go back again? Maybe. We were there for a wedding, and the location was convenient. So I would probably return if back if the location was convenient, but I may not do so with the family and only if it was me and my wife.

« Lovely stay, Excellent location »

We stayed at the Dana for 3 nights in April. Our room was on the ground floor with our patio in the tropical garden. The room was spacious and very clean and close to the pool. The pool was beautiful with great bar service. We did have breakfast in the hotel restaurant and the food was good but rather expensive for breakfast. The hotel provided a free shuttle to Sea World and was very close (5 min drive) to Mission beach. I would definitely stay here again.

« Old School Motel Rooms in a Hotel Complex »

It's like a team playing in throwback jerseys. You are in a modern hotel reception but the rooms are old school. This is definitely a hotel with a good reception, pool and restaurant but most of the rooms are in motel type blocks where you park your car right outside. The rooms are well equipped and everything works and is clean. It's not the height of modernity and some of the finishes are a little tired and dated. But it is well placed for the beaches and Sea World (if you are still prepared to sponsor that discredited organisation). Service in the restaurant, pool and reception were exemplary and I'd recommend this place.

    4
    « Outstanding Customer Service »

Some of the hotel rooms are beginning to show their age, but overall the facility is excellent. We have stayed at the hotel twice in the recent past and found the staff to be very customer service focused and empowered to handle situations (not need to seek Manager approval). When ever you travel issues arise and the staff at The Dana to be top notch. Both times we have had minor issue, but the outstanding service resolving those issues will make sure we visit again next time we are in San Diego.

« Great location and fantastic atmosphere »

We really enjoyed our stay at Dana On Mission bay and this will be our number one pick in our future stays in San Diego area. Nice beaches close by, you can watch the evening fireworks from the hotel pool and place is nicely kept as well. Highly recommended!

    « First time »

The dive in pool was great along with the fireworks from seaworld. The problem I had was the water would not turn off in the bathroom along with the fan not working. I killed three spiders and a silver fish and to top it off we had a blackout.

    « Vacation »

Have had four great day here. Nice pools and great location just at the bay shore. Great for kids too. We rented two kayaks and explored the bay seeing sea lions. So close to Seaworld and only 15 min from downtown. The pool bar in biggest pool is a bit slow though.

    « Pleasantly surprised! »

I recently had the pleasure of spending 2 nights at The Dana on Mission Bay. I had read the reviews before going, and I actually chose this hotel because I was traveling with my dog. I have been in the travel and hospitality business my entire adult life, and I presently run a small 17 room Boutique Hotel in Palm Springs, so I can be rather critical of hotels. I thought The Dana was lovely. My room was immaculate, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the place was very quiet. The grounds are pretty and I enjoyed going for long walks through them with my dog. I would have given this hotel a 5 star rating had it not been for just two minor issues. One issue was smoking. As a non smoker, I'm not comfortable around smoke. The rooms are non-smoking rooms, but there were several people hanging out in the parking lot smoking all evening. Each time I would go in or out, I would have to walk past them, and through their smoke. There were dozens of cigarette butts on the ground in the parking lot. That took away from the otherwise delightful atmosphere. And the second issue I had was when I went into the bar in the morning to order espresso, only to be told that the machine was broken. I still give this hotel a high rating and I will continue to stay there from now on when I go to San Diego. The rooms are nicely done, and some come with nice patios, and the hotel is very pet friendly. The marina, which is right alongside the hotel, really adds to the atmosphere. This is a very nice place to stay.

Stayed at the Dana for 3 nights after a short stay in Vegas. On arrival i wasn`t too impressed but once i checked in and had a look around the hotels grounds i was in my element. Great food, lovely staff and i was treated like a king. I am returning next year.....cant wait.

    « Dirty and Disappointing »

We checked into the Dana on Mission Bay. The check in went well and the front desk staff was friendly. We had upgraded to ensure that we had an ocean view room. We took the elevator to the 2nd floor of the building. When we got out of the elevator, the carpeted floor was filthy and looked like it had not been swept in quite some time. It was littered with trash. We opened the door to our room and found a dirty, stained carpet and dingy, dirty bed linens. The lighting in the bathroom was dark but, after a quick walk through and a glimpse at the filth in the vents of the bathroom, we quickly decided to check out and find another hotel. We checked in on a Sunday so perhaps the hotel was incredibly busy over the weekend. Nevertheless, housekeeping really needs to step up and the management really needs to address the cleanliness issues.

We wanted to stay outside of San Diego due to Comic Con and chose The Dana based on reviews. We were very happy we did. The room was spacious with a large bath and comfortable beds. We stayed in a deluxe room which overlooked the grounds and bay. The balcony was lovely in the early morning and evenings. Firefly restaurant was nice for both breakfast buffet and dinner. Our teen children loved the heated salt water pool and hot tub. Great drinks, craft beer and wine selection to enjoy poolside and evening entertainment at the restaurant.

I took my daughter, step daughter, daughter in law 3 grand children to San Diego. We stayed here and found it a great place. Rooms were nice and clean if not a little crowded with suitcases. It was very close to the San Diego Zoo, 40 minute drive to LEGOLAND and extremely close to Sea World. They provided free shuttle service to and back from Sea World. I had requested rooms be close together and they accommodated me on that request. You are also within walking distance from the beach. There are two pools and hot tubs. At the children's pool they play a movie each evening. Hint: if you have young children they do go to bed early you should request a room away from that pool as the movie is loud. You can see Sea Worlds fireworks display each night also from the hotel. It is also a 10 minute drive into Old town San Diego.

    « Won't go back »

We stayed here to attend my nieces wedding and reception. The reception was at the hotel. To begin with, the rates are way over priced, we had no choice on this and to be fair other hotels in the area are around the same rate. However, this hotel definitely is not worth the $300+ per night they charge. The rooms are mediocre at best. They are old and musty smelling. I know you're on the bay but there's no excuse for this. I've stayed in many hotels on the beach that did not have that musty, moldy smell. The hotel staff while very pleasant to deal with they are incompetent. We checked in at 1:00 and were told our room wasn't ready which I understood. We were also told we would be on the priority list for check in and I would get a call when our room was ready. The wedding was at 2:00 in another location. We returned to the hotel around 4:00 only to be told our room still was not ready. At the same time about 10 other couples that checked in after us were getting their rooms. When I made a fuss about it, all of a sudden our room was ready. Interesting. When we left for the wedding we left our luggage with the hotel on a luggage cart. They tagged the cart and gave us the claim ticket. When I submitted my stub to retrieve our luggage, our luggage started coming out in piece by piece. I asked for the cart only to be told that they needed it so they took everything off the cart and BTW did not bother to tag it or keep it together. We were missing items. Needless to say, I was very unhappy. After a long drawn out process we were able to finally find all our items (only because I insisted on going in the back room and searching for them myself). There were others in our group that suffered the same problems. My sister, mother of the bride, also had many issues with the hotel, delivering on promised items etc. But that is her story to tell. I hope that she followed through with a review. I would think twice if I were a bride looking for a location for my reception. Not only for my own piece of mind but also for my guests. And just for the record, my reviews are usually positive and upbeat. But I just couldn't do that for this hotel.

    « Just OK. »

This resort looks nice from the outside, but the rooms are disappointing. The air conditioner was extremely noisy all night long. However the biggest issue was an inexpensive extension cord running from the end table to the adjacent wall to plug the lights and clock in. It was literally just run across the floor. If there aren't enough plugs next to the bed, they should add wall plugs - not run a potentially dangerous extension cord where suitcases and belongings go. Rooms are older and need work. Very pleasant staff, though. Overpriced for what it offers. Better choices out there.

« A few problems, but will return »

We decided to visit out daughter and took up the hotel on a special offer. We've stayed here several times before and always enjoyed it. This time there were a couple of niggling problems, but we will likely return again. We had one morning with no hot water and had to take cold showers. Second, we could not find a parking space anywhere in the gated lot and had to hunt for a place in another part of the hotel. We know that these events sometimes happen, but I give it four stars this trip instead of my usual five.

« Warm and Welcoming Hotel »

We had never stayed there before but were welcomed at the front desk by Cynthia and Aaron as if we were there every weekend. They explained all of the benefits clearly and were quite helpful in ironing out a small glitch. We stayed in a room in the older area which was extremely clean and had an air conditioning system which worked perfectly. The view of the bay outside our window was wonderful every time of the day. A big surprise was the quality of the food at the Firefly restaurant. The brunch was bountiful, well prepared and well presented. And the dinner menu was varied and delicious. The servers were knowledgeable and attentive. We will definitely stay at The Dana when we are next in the area.

    « I like this hotel »

It is a nice hotel, i like it isn't expensive, they care about kids. It has 2 pools and faces the bay, you can walk or run and enjoy the view. It is a good option, it is close to sea world and you can see the fireworks from the hotel at night. Personal is always nice.

« An Ok weekend getaway »

My husband and I came to San Diego for a long weekend and our friend recommended the Dana. Her and her family had stayed here in March for spring break and recommended the resort due its central location and price. Upon check in, the staff was very nice and knowledgeable of the area. Our room was on the second floor. I am drawing a blank on the building number. But when you enter the resort, take a left, go thru the gate, and we were that building on the left. Our balcony faced half the bay and half the highway. We sat on our balcony one evening and saw a bunch of dolphins which was awesome- however- the noise of the road was a bit distracting. The pools were nice, we did not stay long though because they were filled with families. The grounds are well kept and we thought they did a great job with landscaping. Our room was clean, bed was nice, but the shower was awful. No water pressure. It dripped. When you turned the water on, the pressure for taking a bath was fantastic. When you went to pull the switch to take a shower, the water literally dripped out slowly. Why I am giving the Dana three stars is because of our experience early morning with two grease pumping trucks. It was 6:15 AM and we woke up to an extremely loud noise, we thought it was an evacuation alarm going off. However, we stepped outside our room and there were two trucks (looked like gasoline trucks) pumping grease out. It continued for over 45 minutes. Literally, everyone in our building came outside to see what was going on because it was so loud and the smell was awful! After about five minutes, my husband and another gentleman went to the front desk and they were not helpful! They said it would be over soon. It went on for an hour. From 6:15 AM to 7:15 AM. I took a video because I was so turned off. You come to a resort to relax. Being woken up by a grease pumping truck is not relaxing, especially 6:15 AM. At check out, I mentioned to the woman at the front desk about the pumping and showed her the video that I took. Her response "Oh my gosh that is so loud, I am so sorry..." Then, we showed another man behind the desk and he said the same thing. However, earlier that day the previous staff did not seem concerned at all or care that guests were upset. After finishing check out, she said she would contact the manager about the situation and get in touch with us about our experience. I have never heard from management. We booked the resort on a sale and got the room for a discounted rate, without the sale and discounted rate which was about 50% (we paid around $150 a night), I would not stay here. The resort is overpriced and older. The rate I paid was acceptable, but without that rate, I would not come back. Overall, great location, decent room, nice grounds of the resort, and average customer service.

    « Disappointed...has gone downhill »

This hotel used to be very nice but has gone downhill over the years. The first room we were given looked like it was from the 1960s with a wall a/c unit in the bathroom? So if we wanted to use the a/c to cool off the room, we would need to freeze out the person in the shower first. But the worst part was the horrid smell in the room. We couldn't tell if it was just musty or if an animal had died in the walls. The man at the desk insisted it was a good room when he had given it to us. After we went back to the room extremely frustrated, the man who gave us the room conveniently left the desk and a girl helped us at that point. She gave us a different room in a different building. This room was upstairs and much better. This one looked like it had been designed in the 1980s, but was more spacious and did not have a rancid smell. Apparently the only building that had been fully remodeled was the one facing the water - the very expensive one. We are not sure if the other buildings are being redone or not, but some are in dire need of work. We did not use the pool, but it was extremely crowded and we couldn't have found any space anyway. Overall we were disappointed with the bait and switch routine. I had booked a room with two beds and the man at the desk convinced me to give up that room since they were fully booked and gave us the king bed that was supposedly so wonderful, and this was the room that was so bad. By the time we returned to the desk the original room we had already been assigned was gone, so I am not certain how nice the original room we had would have been. I wish I had his name, but he ran. The location is the only reason is gets three stars. It needs to work on customer service and updating its rooms.

« OVER ALL EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE »

My wife, 3 girls and I stayed here at the Dana over the 4th of July weekend. We were AMAZED by the OVERALL SERVICE. The service we received from the staff Aliya, Janessa, Danielle, Marcus, Samantha, Alexa, Bianca, Kelly (firefly restaurant) and the maintenance outside helping crew which I forgot there names. These individuals should truly be acknowledge by management for making family trip like ours become treasured memories. They EACH truly went above and beyond for us Aliya truly help us out to receive a nice room which Janessa worked hard to allow us to stay an extra night. We are so grateful for hotel staff like this and not to leave out the AMAZING cleanliness of over all hotel, food, pool area and phone service. I give this HOSPITALITY SERVICE to this hotel 5 STARS if I could 6 STARS. Please continue the amazing service and we changes our vacation spot from Palm Springs to San Diego well of course staying here at the DANA!!!! Sincerely, Gabe

I will come back to this hotel to enjoy the Bay view from the balcony and the green area, i do not want to go out of the hotel, the view and the service is better than any other place. My little daughter enjoyed the green spaces.

    « Pools are refreshing »

Some of the rooms are great but not our`s. We were in the 500 building and cramped is a fair assessment. There are 2 double beds, one no more than 6" from the wall. The other a little more than a foot from a desk with a straight chair. It was too close to use the chair, which was the only place to sit, other than a bed. The a.c.unit was noisy and located outside the bath, near the sinks, giving you a blast of cool air on exiting the shower. In my opinion, a substandard room for what they charge. The $27/day resort fee includes parking and premium coffees at their restaurant, local calls, etc. The pools are lovely We ate lunch at The Firefly. The Cuban sandwich was dry and the grilled cheese was not melted. Prices were fair. Buffet breakfast was very nice, although there were no egg whites at the omelette station. Every staff we encountered was friendly and very helpful. There is no airport shuttle, only to Sea World. Any other eatery is a cab/uber away.

    « So wonderfully disappointing »

This really is a good review, but there were some glitches. We did not get the type of room we reserved and called down to inquire about it and was told they would look into it and call back. After 10 mins. we did not get a call back and decide just to stay in that room because of the spectacular view, so I called down to the Front Desk to advise them we would keep that room. We checked in with our dog and did not receive the pet gift accessories bag with the treats and toys and had to go to the desk to get them the next day. We called down to get the Pet in Room door tag, which we did not receive at check in as well, and was told one would be brought up for us. That never happened so I made one out of paper. The next day we got one from our housekeeper Martha who was very nice and did a great job on the room. Even with these things we will definitely return as this is a beautiful property with a amazing location. So relaxing and peaceful.

    « Amazing Welcome! »

Checking into The Dana resort was a great experience. Aaron checked us in and he was so welcoming, and caring. He went out of his way for us he was also extremely knowledgeable of the local area and the resort. Very rarely do you find such great service nowadays. The room he got us is gorgeous! Very clean and with an amazing view. From now on when we come to San Diego We will definitely be staying here. :-)

« Nice hotel, great service, beautiful views »

Everything was clean- the room, the pool, lobbies, grounds. Very well taken care of. Housekeeping was great! Pool was great- location was perfect- near many attractions! Got to see fireworks every night from Sea World- bonus! People were very friendly. They had great information at the front desk about what to do along with great directions. Food at the restaurant was excellent and surprisingly very affordable. We had a very nice time!

    « Nice place »

Nice place. Not a bad location. Not right on the beach though. Pools are okay. All around decent place, felt it was a bit overpriced for what it was. Nothing too special. Feels a bit like you're in a nice motel how the rooms are set up as you enter right next to where you park your car.

« One of the best resorts you'll ever experience. Ever! »

We are currently here! I just couldn't wait to write to let others know how amazing this place is! I travel a lot for vacations. Stayed at high end places in Hawaii, condos in Puget Sound, and many beach cities. This is in my top all favorites. You name something you want, the Dana has it PLUS what makes it even better? The incredibly nice service and staff!!!! Aaron checked us in, very polite and informative. Everyone I pass greets with a smile. The bartender at the Firefly was so patient with me trying to decide what I wanted. BUT you know who helped me the most and went above and beyond?? Ted! Ted in the marina. The reason we decided to come to The Dana over other properties is the COMFORTABLE rooms that are 10 steps from the pool, the gorgeous trees and landscaping with many soothing features, and the ability to keep small boat/kayaks in a slip nearby. The Marina is safe, has video surveillance and locked gates, is close to many nice areas to go on your boat, not to mention incredible service from Ted. He called the day before our arrival to confirm the slip reservation I made, he even left a very useful map, answers to my boating questions, AND the gate keys so that we'd have a problem-free arrival. He's wonderful! I'm so lucky to still have 3 more days to enjoy all this incredibleness!

    « Bartender Paul »

The hotel was perfect for myself and my daughter, close to everything, the beach and the bay. The night movies at the pool for children, was a great way to wind down the day. Paul is an excellent bartender, very helpful and kind. He made our visit and time at the pool enjoyable. And the drinks he makes are quite tasty.

    « Best hospitality service »

We park our boat here so we get access to the pool and we love this place because it feels like we are on vacation in our own town. One of the best parts of our experience is the pool waitress, Alexa. She is always such a friendly face and I feel like we have really gotten to know her over the years. We can always expect great service and a good time when Alexa is working. We will keep coming back.

    « Summer visit »

My family and I usually stay about twice a year! I live in San Diego and enjoy our city. I love that you can be in the walk way looking at the water, ride a bike, paddle boat, then go swimming in a nice beautiful pool and have a drink all in walking distance. Staff always friendly and helpful. Being able to go into the lobby with your bathing suit cover up on and not feel out of place makes you really feel like you're on vacation. Arron was my star staff this stay! ??

« Gorgeous grounds, pretty close to beach »

This is a beautiful property with very friendly staff. We got a deal for 4th of July and stayed 3 nights. We had a "view" room which did look on the bay- not the breaktaking view I was hoping for but nice. The hotel is only 2 stories so you don't get very high. Mattresses were passable- one was much harder than the other- we had 2 queen room. LOVED that they provided 4 pillows on each bed. Bathroom was roomy with 2 sinks, shower head was very high up, water flowed nicely. The A/C was ICE cold which was fabulous. Pools looked nice, spa was actually so hot some people did not even want to get in. Resort is gorgeous; landscaping beautiful and mature. Nice walkways to stroll along the bay.

    « Great Hotel & Location »

Enjoyed our 20th Anniversary here. Enjoyed our room on the 2nd floor overlooking the bay, comfortable beds, clean rooms but without cover smells, wonderful views, loved the hot tub and pool area, ping pong table for fun, free shuttle to Sea World, coffee & tea in the room, friendly and helpful staff. Didn't care for the dinner at the on location restaurant, pricey and too fancy for my taste, they didn't even have ranch dressing available but would return to this hotel again.

« Awesome Summertime and Independence Day Celebration!! »

We arrived two days prior to Independence Day. Check-in went smoothly and we went to our room. We were totally impressed by the cleanliness, amenities and location of our room. Beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was a great size. There was a large TV, refrigerator, small microwave, some disposable plates, ice bucket with wine and bottle opener. You get wi-fi and one parking spot per reservation (part of the resort fee). We had an awesome bay side/bay front room with impressive views of Mission Bay. There was a patio with a locked gate (key is in the room) and a large grassy area in front of our room. Although there are two pools on the property, family used the one closest to the room. The grounds are well maintained and colorful. We brought our own lawn chairs, bbq, table and pop up for our Independence Day picnic. Family was able to spread out and not feel confined by lack of space. The fireworks from surrounding areas and Sea World were phenomenal!! We would like to commend staff for their friendliness and helpfulness. In particular, AARON was extremely helpful with our check-in and answering questions we might have had. TED kept our "lost" credit card secure until we could retrieve it. CYNTHIA helped us make a new reservation for another family adventure. DAVIS answered questions, helped with parking and also helped with guests while they were on the city park area. Servers and staff at the Firefly were very accommodating, too. This place is awesome! Our family had a great time and we are going back!!

Very nice atmosphere to relax and get away from it all.

« Wonderful time at The Dana on Mission Bay »

We are having such a great time here at The Dana. Everyone here is super friendly and very helpful. My husband, daughter and I also stayed here a few years ago and it's as wonderful as I remember. My daughter loves swimming in the pool. In the meantime my husband and I are relaxing by the pool enjoying drinks. The bartender at the poolside named Paul, is so friendly and extremely efficient. Thanks to everyone at The Dana, especially Paul!

    « LOVED!!! This hotel »

We stayed here with another couple and was recommended it by a friend, well what can I say!!! It is perfectly situated, very nice friendly helpful staff, lovely grounds, lovely rooms, clean rooms, great food, we sat by the firefly Reseraunt at the evening around a fire pit table leasurly enjoying the evening, there was no pressure from the staff there to end the evening, not far from the beach and just a taxi ride to gas lamp quarter, the hotel assisted us with any needs we had, we will defiantly be back!! Thank you Dana.

    « Very nice view »

We stayed two nights and had a very nice room with a beautiful view of Mission Bay. We sat in our patio for hours watching the boats. The breakfast was delicious and all of the staff of the hotel and restaurant were very accommodating. The main reason we went was because of it being a pet friendly hotel. And no charge for the dog in the room. We will go back.

    « Family vacation »

We had two great family days. Top notch and the best service we've seen. John at the front desk started off our stay. Very hospitable and made us feel at home. When we arrived to our room, it blew us away! Ten times better than the pictures shown. Very new clean and relaxing. We couldn't have asked for anything better. I can't wait to return as we had such amazing service from beginning to end of our stay. I would also like to mention both Daniel and Paul from the restaurant bar area that went above and beyond to help us. The drinks and food were great. We also ran into Danielle who helped walk us to the pool area and show us to the cabana area. She went out of her way to get us towels and tell us about the poolside service where we could order lunch and drinks. We did have two girls who were also great at the poolside for lunch. But I can't remember their names. We had a fabulous time and truly can't wait to return. Great staff. Five stars!! A classy hotel and resort.

« Fantastic hotel!!! Excellent customer! »

My husband myself and two kids stayed at The Dana on mission bay for our first time and Marcus at the front desk was beyond helpful and made our check in smooth and easy. Marcus evan gave recommendations for pizza resturant as we had no idea of where to get good pizza being our first time there , it was a good recommendation as we loved the pizza place we order from off his helpful tip. I will recommend this hotel to my friends and family and we will defiantly stay here again.

    « Room was great! »

Very clean room and bathroom. We got the 2 queen beds and felt that the room was a little tight. We didn't like the bathrobes because the material was really hard and itchy (they should throw those robes away it's useless). Overall, we liked our stay.

    4
« A nice hotel! Excellent customer service! »

I'm reluctant to give a negative review because I had a wonderful trip overall! When we first arrived we were exhausted and just wanted to get freshened up before finding a place to dine. Considering I was traveling with two children under 12 I expected to be accommodated since it was passed checkin time. It was my first time not staying at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay and traveling without my hubby. So when I checkin in the attendant was pleasant but gave me a map and told me my room was located really far from the lobby. There was no bell hop, and we would have to lug our bags on foot or reload and drive. I decided to drive there, obviously, and, I requested they send someone with the luggage we already unloaded upon arrival. This resort was motel style. No elevators in most units ex Our room was in an older building. Thus, no elevator and Tiny room... for 4 people. It had air conditioning in window near bathroom. So it was really muggy and we were really disappointed especially based on what we paid. I decided to call the front desk and request a room upgrade. The woman that answered was so rude and kept reiterating you need to pay a fee... yada yada. I felt hopeless and was giving up and going to suck it up. It was worse than a Holiday Inn express. I'm rather picky about hotels because I want to be comfortable and pay more in general towards where we stay. So when the man showed up with our bags - his name was James, I'm not sure of his title but he was so friendly and accommodating.. he asked how we like our room? I said well I'd rather not answer that for fear of getting shouted at. He was taken aback by this and insisted I elaborate. So, I told him about the inept and careless representative I spoke to (assuming she was the manager or front desk supervisor based on her authoritative attitude). James went on to explain that it was an agent not a hotel employee or manager. Furthermore, he would speak with the hotel management and they would call me shortly. Within 10 minutes I was called and we were being upgraded to the elevator building (1000). I was so happy to see somebody cared and went above and beyond to help us out! James is outstanding!!! I thought the two pools and grounds were beautiful but I'm not a fan of motel-like buildings. The open air corridors were a bit different from out usual hotels so it takes a little getting used to. The rooms are furnished nicely and bldg 1000 and 2000 are the more spacious units with elevators. The housekeepers were friendly and helpful. I would recommend the Dana but definitely do your homework on what you specifically need before booking.

    « Large and Lovely »

My husband and I spent our 45th wedding anniversary at The Dana and truely enjoyed every aspect of the hotel and it's lovely grounds. The Firefly restaurant on site was wonderful and the staff of the hotel and restaurant were excellent as well. We will for sure return.

    « Excellent Hotel »

The staff went above and beyond to meet all of our needs, even without our asking. The restaurant is excellent, a little pricey but the food was amazing. The rooms are clean and well-appointed with plenty of room and great views. In general, the property is beautiful. The shuttle to SeaWorld was a plus for us and kept right on schedule.

    « Firefly Restaurant »

We had several meals at Firefly restaurant while staying at the Dana on Mission Bay. The daily brunch buffet was amazing - there is something to please everyone in our family of five. We had a fantastic waitress named Bianca who was as friendly as she was capable.

    « Enjoyed our stay »

We stayed 4 nights at the Dana Inn in a standard room facing the road. We really enjoyed our stay and would return again. There is a big variable on rooms available, on the bay, facing parking, pool view etc. We were happy with our "non view" room. It was further from the stairs which I recommend so that not too many people walk in front of your room. Skip the Firefly restaurant, it was overpriced and not great food or service. Pool side movies were a big hit!

    « Nice Grounds...Great location...overpriced rooms »

The grounds of this hotel are great. There are 2 pools. And, although it is the closest hotel to SeaWorld, there wasn't a ton of kids. The location couldn't be better. A little over a mile to Mission Beach (Cool tourist trap), as well as Ocean Beach (locals spot) and many other beaches. We were going for our anniversary, so I thought it would be nice to upgrade to a view room. Since this is right on the water, I assumed the view would be of water. Upon check-in, I was given the choice of pool view, garden view or water view. That was easy...I said "water view". When I looked up this hotel, online, it showed nice balconies overlooking the water. I thought that would be a nice way to relax. Unfortunately, when we went to our appointed room, it was in a regular 2 story, hotel-type building. The view of the water was when we were walking up to our room, not in the room itself. Considering it costs an additional $40 a night for that view, I felt Best Western was being a bit shady with their categorizing. Next time in this area, I will not be staying at this hotel.

« 2nd annual trip to San Diego »

We went in June for anniversary and it was generally a nice place. Beds and linens clean and comfortable. Room could use some updates and color. Marina view through a window that opened onto the walkway that everyone used to access rooms no privacy when opened. Friendly staff but needed to provide more info on activities in area. Had to know what to ask about to get info. Quite a few kids/families which at times were loud. Overall would return here next year

    « Top Notch! »

Hats off to the managers of The Dana On Mission Bay! Your entire staff absolutely outstanding! From the minute we check in and were met by the friendly folks at the front desk with all the helpful information they gave us, we knew that our stay with them was going to be awesome. They gave our dog Abby her own welcome gift basket. Our room was in building 2000, corner suite on the main level. The room was gorgeous, large bedroom, huge bathroom, the kitchenette was the perfect size, large living room what led out to a fence in patio overlooking the bay! Our housekeeper Maria was one of the best, she knew that the four of us would need extras things in the bathroom, extra pillows, extra coffee & cream. We never had to ask she just knew! We choose the Dana because it is dog friendly and family friendly. Our granddaughter had so much fun riding her bike on the path that runs around the hotel grounds and loved the pool area. We could sit out on the patio and watch the rowing regatta go by, and all the other boats. You can rent boats, bikes, jet skis, whatever you want they have it. The food and drinks were extremely good. But again, it was the whole staff that made our stay wonderful. The location was perfect for us, close to everything!

« Hotel next to Sea World great for families and pets »

I expected a bit more when deciding on where to stay in San Diego; the reservation agent said it was too expensive for families and it was a quiet resort. However, this upscale version of a Best Western is precisely meant for families and those travelling with pets. There are rooms away from pool areas which may be quieter. I would recommend requesting the Bay view; we had a harbor view room - our window faced an outer walkway so you really cannot leave blinds open to enjoy the harbor view! And fyi - the hotel is located on a flight path of jets taking off from the airport. There's a bar / restaurant right next to one of the pools, but prepare to pay for breakfast. We opted to go out to Mission Beach (about 1 1/2 miles away) which offers several local dining places. The rooms are clean and offer complimentary bottles of water (nice touch). All n all, a good option for families!

« Bartender at the pool- Paul »

I stayed at the Dana for a week and the bartender Paul was the most friendly, nice guy. He made my stay amazing gave great advice where to go and see and was pleasant to talk to. The hotel was great by because of him I will definitely be back. The hotel was very accommodating and clean. Paul made the best drinks and his personality made you want to sit and drink.

« Great and memorable trip - we will be back! »

I recently stayed at The Dana Hotel with my daughter. We had a fantastic time. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The food at the Firefly restaurant is amazing. We used the paddle boards and kayaks to see the seals and it was an unforgettable experience. The pools are beautiful! We will definitely stay here again! Also, the staff was very helpful and nice.

« Wish we could stay longer. »

A short visit with my bestie to celebrate our summer birthdays. I was delighted by the friendly staff - all of them! Treated me like a princess! Especially Bianca @ The Firefly, the restaurant on site. She remembered specifics the second time we visited, and Aaron at the front desk. Brought us a birthday card with a $25.00 gift to use while we were there. Over the top service from them both! The pool was perfect - and salt water! Lots of families there enjoying the amenities. Great and beautiful location, excellent staff, can't wait to go back.

Paul at the pool bar was amazing! View from the room was amazing! Only complaint is the almost 30 dollar a night "resort" fee. The pool was great also. Definitely will be back just to see Paul, makes the most amazing drinks and very friendly and helpful!

    « Outstanding Customer Service »

Great Vacation again. The Dana is a calm hotel that is beautiful, clean and the most friendly service. We are a family of 4 with kids 9 and 10. We all love this place. There is something for everyone. Being on the bay and so close to Mission Beach you can ride your bikes anywhere. (they have lots of renals if needed) We stayed for 4 days and did most of our dining at the Firefly Restaurant. Food was great but service is what kept us coming back. Bianca greeted us and served us like we were family. She was so great with my kids and my dog. There were other great employees all over the place willing to help or just say hello. If you are looking for a great peaceful vacation. You must try the Dana

    « SeaWorld Visit »

We stayed at the Dana to visit SeaWorld. The location cannot be beat. SeaWorld is well within walking distance. Fortunately the Dana has a shuttle service which is a great convenience. Unfortunately, our stay at the Dana was not as restful or relaxing as we had hoped. We received an "upgrade" to a room with direct access to the pool. As expected, there was lots of noise and commotion during pool hours which are supposed to end at 10 pm. However the noise didn't stop until 11 pm. Things that made the stay annoying were mostly a few unruly guests... (1) Listening to drunken loud cussing from the bar while trying to watch the kids' movie at poolside. (2) Guests in the room above us who stomped up and down the hall and guests next to us who arrived back to the hotel in a drunken stupor at 2:30 am cussing loudly, yelling and slamming doors until about 3:15 am. As far as the Dana hotel itself, the room was clean (no funny smells) but a bit on the smaller side. Beds were clean. Lots of pillows. Sheets were very rough about which our small children even complained. Breakfast at Firefly was good. Dinner was also good but pricey. Some Firefly staff were unfamiliar with their own discount offers for meals (child under 8 yrs old eats free off kids' menu with purchase of adult entree). So we had to ask for the promotion to be applied to our meal even though we presented the voucher at the time of ordering. Super markets, good coffee and less pricey food options are a long drive away. We like the convenience of the location, but it's definitely a mid-level experience. If you want first-class you'll have to look for a different property.

    « June 12-15 »

The weather was great 70F in June, visiting from Miami it was great. The view of the bay was phenomenal and the boardwalk is right over the bridge (take a beach cruiser or hope an Uber). Everything is only 10-15min away (airport, downtown, Balboa Park and Sunset Cliffs)

    « Great location »

About a mile walk from Mission beach. Great location if driving downtown or La Jolla. Nice hotel, great pools. We got a standard room, nice room but small and little noisy next to Mission Blvd. The staff was very nice and polite. Would stay here again, just might pay the extra for a room away from busy street.

We had a fantastic stay at the Dana. The room was well-appointed with a great view of the pool and our own private gate on patio to get there. I was thrilled with Stephanie who answered random questions from our room including an impromptu and sweet conversation with my young daughter who wanted to tell her thank you for letting us stay. The Firefly restaurant was fantastic for breakfast especially our server Bianca. With two tables full of kids she didn't miss a beat and took excellent care of us! Thanks Bianca!

    « 8 day Family vacation »

Our stay at The Dana was actually one of the best we've ever had. We had experienced other hotels and resorts in the area and the Dana is by far our favorite. We got a two queen beach front room with a patio facing the bay. The room was quite nice, it had comfortable beds. My son slept on the pull out couch bed and was fine. The kitchen was perfect size and accommodated our groceries for 8 days. All staff, guest services, room service, and restaurant were extremely friendly. We enjoyed the food we got from all ereas and the prices were good. We drank the room coffee every day and it was delightful I highly recommend the Dana.

« Fun Place with Friendly People »

Love this place! The amenities are awesome and everyone who works there is very friendly and helpful! I'd definitely recommend getting breakfast at the Firefly! Brian was hilarious and a great waiter! He even talked to the birds with us :) Also, Caesar the barista hooked us up with amazing lattes! My only complaint is that we had to fight with our A/C a little but the weather was so great we didn't even bother getting it serviced. I'd definitely come back!

    « Quick Getaway »

I really enjoyed my visit to The Dana on Mission Bay. It was planned just for a weekend getaway but I will definitely return for another visit. The location is great if you are there with family or kids because you are close to many attractions. The pool was enjoyable and we had an excellent server, Bianca who made our lunch in the cabana awesome! Firefly restaurant was a little pricey but the food was excellent!! Overall not a cheap place to stay but I felt it was worth the money spent.

Everything was perfect! The room, the restaurant, the grounds, staff, and the amazing bay view! I have no complaints at all. We had a Bay View Suite, and it was very quiet. It had an amazing view and was well worth the cost. Will definitely come back.

    « Great family hotel »

Very nice hotel for a family stay. Close to Mission Beach and Belmont Park (which the kids LOVE!) Our room was very clean and comfortable. Nice beds and I personally love fresh white sheets and big fluffy pillows. Double sinks in bathroom was a plus as was the shower which had great pressure. Parking was plentiful and included with resort charge. The front desk staff was awesome and super accommodating. Housekeeping was great, too! There was a Dive In movie and kids loved swimming and watching. Only slight negative was that the pool bar started closing down at 830pm on a Friday. Overall, very happy and would stay here again.

« Great hotel for the price range and location »

Overall, great hotel and staff, very comfortable beds. Our 3rd story room (with balcony) over looking Mission Bay ( great views) was of good size, large bathroom and well appointed room with modern decorations. On site restaurant ( good service and food) with an open patio area overlooking one of the marinas on Mission Bay and overlooking one of its 2 heated large clean pools. On weekends they also have live music. Location location .. with-in minutes close to many San Diego attractions, beach communities, downtown area and San Diego harbor. Great front desk staff that are friendly and very helpful - special thanks to Janessa for making our stay special!

« Hotel by the waters »

Very beautiful hotel in Mission Bay. The hotel is in a secluded area therefore it is quiet and serene. I love the comfortable bed. The bathroom space in our room is small but it is very clean. There is a pathway by the waters. I loved sitting on the bench by it, simply watching the world going by.

« Nice stay on the bay! »

My family and I just got home after a 3-night stay at the Dana. I stayed there with my parents more than 20 years ago, so I thought I'd check it out with my family. We took advantage of the 3rd night free promotion, which was great. When you're looking at the price per night, make sure you realize there will be taxes and fees, including a $27 per night resort fee. The resort fee includes parking and Wifi. The hotel itself is older, but nice and has pretty plants and trees on the grounds. There is a walking path along the bay and a place you can rent bikes, kayaks, jet skis, etc. from. We booked a regular view room and ended up with a room with a view of the tropical pool (which is nice, but there was no balcony, so we might consider upgrading next time). There is no elevator, so don't book a "view" room if you aren't ok getting yourself and all your stuff upstairs. The room was nice, clean and has a mini fridge and microwave. Check-in was quick and easy. The concierge has access to some good deals on theme park tickets! We got weekday Seaworld tickets for $50 each. The hotel has a free shuttle to Seaworld, or you can walk like we did (it's about a 15-minute walk). The tropical pool is great for families! It's heated (though still a little cool when it's in the 60s like it was most of the evenings this week) and there is a hot tub too. There is a sandbox area with toys and a pool bar. In the summer (which started this week), they play a movie right next to the pool at 8pm every night. If Seaworld has a fireworks show during your stay, you can walk out to the water to get a great view. There is a 2nd pool on the property that is really nice and right next to the bay. It's close to the restaurant, so it's easy to order food and drinks there. Both pools have ping pong tables next to them. My only real complaint is about the pool towels. They are thin and small! You may want to consider bringing your own or bringing the robes in your room to the pool with you (though, those are fairly thin too). It's not fun getting out of a pool on a cool night and only having the towels currently provided. We didn't eat AT the restaurant (Starbucks is a quick drive away and we were out and about a lot), but did order food and drinks from there while we were at the pool. The food was a little pricey and they messed up our order, but the servers were friendly and the food/drinks came out quickly. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and we plan on going back when we can!

« Upgraded from flooded dark room to beautiful 3rd floor Waters edge room with view and deck »

My initial standard room was dark, outdated no view and box spring had black patches on corners and was a very old bed. While unpacking realized old carpet in room was flooded all along the wall outside bathroom for several feet out. Requested new room and was saved by Cynthia at the front desk. Very kind and apologetic, upgraded me to a beautiful new deluxe guestroom with sweeping view on third floor of waters edge building for my 3 night stay. Huge difference- clean, updated and beyond my expectations. Wonderful to relax in the evening on my deck with my fellow conference attendees and enjoy watching rowers and other activity on the water. Service was definitely 5 stars for all employees I had contact with and my upgraded room, but had to give this a four star review based on terrible initial standard room. Would highly recommend the view rooms in waters edge but would never again book a standard room on street side of property with ancient, disgusting bed and dismal dark room.

    « Wonderful! »

All the different plants and trees surrounding the rooms are so beautiful. The bed was the most comfortable. The pool and spa was very clean and inviting. The staff was amazing. My husband and I ate at the Firefly for breakfast both mornings and I just have to say Bianca our waitress was a complete joy! The food was amazing. I will definitely be going back!

« Lovely hotel by the Bay »

This hotel is bay front property. Hotel is older condo like units but all been nicely renovated. Beds are firm and high. We stayed on the 2nd floor with pool view. There is no elevator. Hotel ground is nicely kept. We ate on the facility and service was excellent. We ordered a beer but don't know what kind of order. Waitress brought three samples for us to try prior to order. It helps with our decision. Our children swim at the pool and they love it. There are plenty of children and family in the facility and they had fun. Pool water was on the cool side but kids do not mind. They have movie night by the pool. Kids and adults enjoyed the movie. There are bike/water sports rental on site. Outside of the lobby area, there is a city bike for rental as well. It's fun biking around the Mission Bay area. It's very close to Sea World and everywhere else. We prefer staying near Mission Bay instead of other area. Resort fee and parking fee applied to this hotel. We paid $30 resort fee and $27 parking fee per night. Wi-Fi and water bottle in room are free. They have 24 free coffee in lobby area. There are computer access in lobby area. Someone print boarding pass prior to leaving for airport. Printing is free. This hotel is rated 3 star but I think it should be rated 3.5 star on hotel websites. I recommend this hotel to anyone.

I just stayed at a Best Western in Phoenix, The Dana in San Diego is the best resort I ever stayed in. The service was outstanding and courteous. I really felt at home without being at home. « Enjoyable stay »

We recently stayed at The Dana for 4 nights. Originally, we booked a standard room with a view ( so a bit of an upgrade). But the pictures are very misleading. I thought we would be getting a balcony, which is not the case at all. When we walked in, it was quite a tiny room, with 2 queen beds (had booked a king) and a window looking out to one of the pools. After a long trip to get there and our luggage missing from the airline this added to my disappointment. My husband called down and for $50 extra a night, we were upgraded to a junior suite which had a patio and overlooked the bay. And it was considerably larger. It was totally worth the extra money, in my opinion. Our room had 2 queens and a pull out couch. We were on the first floor and our patio opened out onto a large green space. Perfect for our 22 month old daughter to run around and blow off steam. There are 2 pools. One has nightly movies playing on a large screen for kids as well as a sand box area with shovels and toys to play in the sand. The other one was a bit quieter which is what we preferred. The location is fantastic and there is a free shuttle to SeaWorld. The only downside is the $27/night resort fee. That includes parking and wifi. The only other thing was the one evening a dog was going crazy, barking non stop. We had to call the front desk and security came to deal with it. But just be aware this hotel does take animals.

« Great experience for our 45th wedding anniversary! »

We booked a trip using Travelocity which included flight from Central Valley to San Diego and a 5 star hotel, The Dana. After a difficult day (flying Delta which had us stop in Salt Lake City to get to San Diego from Sacramento! - horrible!) we were greeted at the hotel by a charming young woman, named Monica. Not only was she sympathetic because we were exhausted, but upgraded our "standard room" to a room with a park/bay view! We were so touched and enjoyed every minute of our 4-day stay at the resort. Thank you, Monica. You represented The Dana admirably!

« Gorgeous Views and Great Customer Service »

My fiance went down to San Diego for a two day, one night get away. We had booked another hotel but when we saw it, we did not want to stay there. So we used the hoteltonight app and found this hotel. Everything about it from the time we booked it to the time we checked out, we loved. We booked it on the app and then showed up at the hotel 20 minutes later. It has a very relaxed resorty feel and we walked around the bay a bit. Then we decided to have a happy hour drink at the restaurant. We sat outside and played cards. The view was amazing that the atmosphere couldn't be beat. Our server was very attentive and didn't seem upset that we just ordered drinks. The outside seating for the restaurant a was great and they even had an area with fire pits that would have been fun to visit at night. Check in was easy and smooth. They have board games that you can rent from the from counter. We walked into our room and had the most breath taking view. It definitely wasn't what we expected for booking last minute and with a discount! Our balcony overlooked the grassy area and the bay where we could see joggers in the distance and the kayakers. It is the exact get away we were hoping for and it was so relaxing. Later that evening we took a Lift/Uber ride (under $7 during 1.5 surcharge) to some bars in PB. Check out was also easy and the help was very friendly. We would LOVE to stay here again and next time for longer!

We come back to The Dana every year because of the great views and helpful staff. One of the people behind the check in counter is CYNTHIA. She was there to make our trip enjoyable. The location was quite and calming after a long week of packing and cleaning to move to our new location. The bay views and breezes were very refreshing. We spent the weekend at Dana and attended the graduation of a friend from the seminary. After a huge family celebration at Anthony's Seafood Grotto and delicious seafood, we spent the day on Sunday at SeaWorld. So much fun and the little children were so excited to see all the fishes. The Dana is beautifully landscaped and the tropical setting was perfect. Lots of restaurants nearby and breakfast at Denny's was enjoyed by everyone.
