    « It could be in England/Scotland »

OK I stay at too many hotels and do not link the names. The outside looks like an old English Coach house. Inside there are lots of pictures from Scotland with many places I know very well. The hotel was nice and close to Vancouver Airport for my flight out of Vancouver first thing. Sadly it meant I missed the breakfast. I did wonder about eating in the restaurant but the bar tender reading the paper and it was almost empty so I went elsewhere. Breakfast did not start by the time I had to check out so I cannot comment on that. The room itself was fine, although with just a small round table to do paperwork on I was glad I had none to do. The lighting is such that it was also a little dark at first. Like many US/Canadian hotels there is a light switch on the wall well away from the lamp fitting. These are fine IF the lamp is switched on at the lamp. Otherwise you end up checking every fixture to see if "that" is the one that the switch operates. In this case the switch for the ceiling lamp is almost as far away from the light as you could get - who designs these things? But I would stay here again and hope to try the breakfast next time.

    « Keep coming back »

I have stayed at this location on several occasions while on business in the Vancouver Area --- good location - they offer an airport shuttle service that is efficient --- had the opportunity to dine at the Chinese Restaurant on site - fabulous meal ---- Really enjoyed the space that Room 312 offered - sufficient space for a business meeting in a very comfortable environment - get internet service - accommodating staff --- very good visit

« Average, a little more tired than I expected for a BW property »

One night. Very average place, tired. I can't complain about the street noise because I know the area but the windows ARE single pane glass. Not a place if you need quite. Coffee in the room was very good and the full breakfast a nice surprise. Staff was friendly. Parking easy. Bed fairly comfortable not great or terrible either. Bathroom updated with a very nice walk in shower, that and the coffee were highlights of the room. Wifi worked well without the often times hassle. I guess if you don't care about dated decore and worn carpets and noise, there is decent value here for just over $100.

« Dingy, dirty, outdated, and musty; plus terrible service »

Our family stayed at the Abercorn for 3 nights while on vacation in Vancouver this summer. We were a group of 10, between the ages of 7 and 75, experienced and easy-going travelers. Our experience at the Abercorn went south from just about the moment we checked in and got worse from there. We had found the hotel through Priceline, which did not guarantee the 2-double bed rooms we were looking for. Turns out these rooms required a surcharge, which we were willing to pay. However, the hotel staff gave us a really hard time about the upgrade. And then they put us in really musty rooms that clearly had sustained water damage/leaks and probably had mold as well. When we complained about it, the staff refused to believe that the rooms smelled bad and gave us a hard time about changing rooms. And then, believe it or not, the second room smelled mildewy as well. The finishing touch on our first night--when I went to take a shower, I found that my towel was NOT clean. That is, it had been laundered, but there was clearly a big spot of dried blood on it. NOT okay. The decor is old, the beds are mediocre at best, the rooms smell of mildew (especially on the front side of the hotel, where they were making roof repairs), the breakfast is poor, and the customer service is indifferent to rude. Positives? Free parking and proximity to Richmond if you're in the area for good eats. Otherwise, beware the Abercorn. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone.

Positives; Staff great Nice beds Relatively clean Close to the Airport Negatives; No Restaurant Very outdated Complimentary breakfast poor (too salty, coffee out of a machine) Priced too high for the lack of amenities and quality

« Used to be charming »

For the longest time, this was a real gem in the Best Western Lineup...very good rooms, a nice restaurant, and a cozy bar. All done with a Scottish theme. A real warm breakfast was included and the staff was excellent. Over the years , we stayed there many times. We recently booked another stay after a few years absence. What a change....restaurant is closed...as is the bar ,,the warm breakfast has been replaced by the usual cereal, toast and jam self serve. Obviously new ownership whose only interest is sucking whatever profit is left in an ageing facility. Would not stay again.

    « One night stay pre-flight »

As others have said, this hotel is suitable for a one night stay before a flight. It's definitely worn around the edges. Service was fine. Decor was a little strange for a Best Western in Richmond - Scottish theme.

    « Needs an upgrade »

This hotel is situated reasonably close to Vancouver International Airport and is adequate for an overnight stay before or after a flight - a once a half-hour free shuttle is provided. The location is on a busy highway in a largely industrial area, so if you are staying there request a room at the back of the hotel which is much quieter (though not entirely quiet) than the side fronting the highway. The front desk staff were helpful and pleasant, and check-in and out was quick and easy. Our room was fairly well appointed, but the hotel as a whole is rather "tired". That said, the room was clean and perfectly adequate for a short stay. The included breakfast is decidedly better than most provided at hotels in this price range.

    « Unexpected stop »

My partner and I were on a flight from San Francisco to London which was diverted to Vancouver. We had to have accommodation for two nights in the Vancouver area before our rearranged onward flight to London. We and several other members of our flight arrived at the hotel around 3.30 am, exhausted after a very stressful few hours. We were all lacking sleep and had been shunted from hotel to hotel in an effort to find rooms at short notice. The hotel had laid on coffee and pastries for us on arrival, and dealt with us in a friendly and understanding manner. This friendly and helpful attitude continued throughout our stay, with each and everyone one of the stuff. From reception staff, to the breakfast and the room maids, we were always greeted with a cheery hello. Such a contrast from the generally surly attitude we encountered throughout our recent visit to San Francisco. Indeed, this easy going attitude seems to run through Vancouver, one of the most relaxed and friendly places I've ever visited. The room was large and spacious, with two double beds. The breakfast was an excellent serve yourself affair, with bacon, sausage and egg etc, as well as pastries, cereals and fruit. The dining room was comfortable and quiet, unlike many similar establishments which often feel like a free for all. The hotel even provides a free complimentary shuttle to the airport. The room cost was $175 Canadian for one night ( around £110 ) to include breakfast. It's a ten minute drive from the airport. There is a Chinese restaurant next door and it's a ten minute walk to Bridgeport station, from where there are frequent trains into downtown Vancouver every few minutes. ( less than half an hour to the Waterfront terminus) You can also go to the great outlet mall, just one stop away on the train. There's not much to see and do in the immediate area, but this hotel would be a great base to explore Vancouver, without staying in the more expensive centre. Check it out.

« Great hotel - good breakfast - good location »

Free parking, but close to the sky train (walking distance) which put you 20 minutes to downtown Vancouver without having to think of traffic or downtown parking. Free shuttles to the airport. Free buffet breakfast that included bacon, scrambled eggs, lots of bread, pastries, fruits, waffles, cereals, etc. Great internet connection, comfy bed and clean room. I would stay here again.

« Noisy and very disappointing »

We have stayed at the Best Western Plus Abercorn Inn a few years ago, and at that time, we were very pleased with the service, value, and amenities. However, I was very disappointed with our stay recently. We found that the rate was a lot higher than other local options, and we only stayed here because the rest of our travel party was using their points for their stay. Then we found out that the pub on the property no longer serves food. The only other option was a chinese restaurant, or you have to drive somewhere else. The aspect of our stay that disappointed us the most, was all of the noise! The walls must be very thin, because we heard phones ringing in other rooms, the sound of showers and hairdryers, and every single person that walked down the hall. Usually noise doesn't bother us, but we hardly slept because we kept getting woken up! However, their service was really wonderful, with one exception - the shuttle driver to the airport. He swore, tossed and dropped our bags, and complained the whole 5 minute drive to the airport. But the other staff members were incredibly helpful, attentive, and made great recommendations and directions on how to get around Richmond. There was a large group of rude travelers that had arrived before us, that were yelling and screaming at the clerk. However, she was very professional, patient and cheery.

« Look around, there are better choose »

We stay for 5 days in the hotel and I have to say the hotel does not worth the price. For the price I paid I can get much nicer places in Burnaby which is less than half an hour away. So think twice before you book your stay here. Pro: the hotel is very convenient. Right by the airport and close to all the restaurants and shops. Hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful, and they have airport shuttle. It is great for people just stay the night for transfer flight etc. Con: the hotel is quite old and it looks and smalls old. There aren't much facilities in here ( no pool etc). They lock the door at 10 pm which is very early for most best western and it's inconvenient. Sometimes I have to wait outside for someone to open the door because they don't have key access at front door. The room is dark without microwave. Bed is not too bad but house keeping is a bit lacking. They only replace our cup once and we ran out of cups for the rest of the stay. I also feel like our bed sheet never got changed. I'm not sure how hotel runs nowadays so it's not a criticize, just a thought went through our mind the whole stay. The bathroom shower has the strongest water pressure I every encountered in best western hotels. However, the water keeps turning ice cold then hot than cold. It's like a torture showering there and you never know what to expect. It is a disappointment because I was excited that they have good water pressure at the beginning. Another thing about this hotel is they do a lot of tour groups. So there are always big group of people in lobby at night. They didn't bother me nor noisy, but I often miss out on breakfast if I go down after them. The breakfast is very basic and they don't refill the fruit if it ran out, so sometimes I end up with only bread and scramble eggs. Btw, they have no boil eggs which is odd for best western. I also think its annoying that we have to have voucher to have breakfast. Overall, I don't recommend this hotel unless you are doing a quick stay in Richmond and need somewhere close to airport. There are much better choose for this amount of money they charged.

    « Convenient! »

This was the perfect stop over after flying into Vancouver in preparation for traveling to Calgary by car. It's near the airport, but just out of town; the accommodations are comfortable and affordable, and the breakfast is as expected for a Best Western.

    « Shuttle to airport »

This is a good stop for that night before a really early flight out of YVR ... or for late evening return for that matter. We have stayed here several times and will likely do so in future. Rates are fair and we use our Best Western membership to best advantage. There is a small pub and a small restaurant. The facility is across the street form a Costco if that interests the shoppers. We often also use the nearby airport parking and not the hotel lot.

« In desperate need of on update »

We had to stay a night in Vancouver because a storm kept us from getting to the island. The room we stayed in (315) was dark and dingy and had a stale smell. I noticed something on the floor between the bed and the nightstand. It turned out to be toe nail or finger nail clippings. How gross!!! Too tired to complain but did tell the girl at the desk the next morning and she seemed appalled. ( not enough to give us a discount) On the plus side the beds were comfy and the bathroom was clean and spacious.

« Terrible accommodations and worse customer care »

I pre-booked this hotel as an overnight stop to get rest from a long journey from the UK. My last leg of the journey resumed the following day. I requested two beds as my dad and I were sharing our accommodations and received confirmation that my request has been booked. Exhausted after more than 24 hours without sleep I checked into the hotel and was asked if I was ok with them upgrading me to a king with a sofa bed. I immediately let them know that I was not ok with the 'upgrade'. I suffer from severe arthritis and sleeping on a sofa bed would cause me intense pain. The clerk apologized stating that the sales team changed the reservation without their permission. Perhaps someone should have informed me so I could have booked else where. I asked what the price would be to get another room and was quoted over $200 for the night. In frustration and exhaustion I went to the room they provided. Once there I had to move a heavy marble table out of the way and fold out the sofa bed. To my horror the sofa bed was not mad up. It needed sheets and pillows. I called housekeeping and got a machine so I called the front desk and was told there was no one available to make up the bed but they would be happy to bring bedding up for me to make it. The front clerk delivered the bedding and I made the bed and tried to get some rest. As expected the bed was lumpy and very uncomfortable so I called and asked for the duty manager who also apologized and offered to bring more bedding up. I have been a Best Western Rewards member for years but after my experience at this hotel I will never recommend or stay in a Best Western again.

    « Excellent customer service »

needed a room after a missed connection. Hotel staff was excellent in getting us checked in and in dealing with the airline. It was very much appreciated after fighting with the airline for hours trying to get them to arrange accommodations. After many hrs of travel and delays the desk agent made check in a quick and painless as possible. So thank you so very much!

    « near airport »

very good hotel and great breakfast included. location was perfect near airport. great room . Cosco across hotel if you need to buy something before you leave Canada and very helpfull desk service, and gently.

« Close to YVR with a shuttle....... »

I have stayed here several times and every time it was excellent. The rooms are clean and spacious. There is a restaurant/bar on the premises. The best deal, they have a 4AM shuttle to the airport (free) and serve coffee and continental breakfast in the lobby beforehand. Will stay there again.

« Clean, Comfy, Close to Airprot »

EXCELLENT Staff, patient and accommodating! Convenient location to airport. Frequent shuttle service, both ways. Comfy and clean rooms. Breakfast was included, but was not to my liking. Very mediocre quality and weak coffee.

« I'm Scottish but disliked the dour Scottish decor! »

When I think of a Scottish theme, bright red tartans come to mind but this hotel was decorated in wall-to-carpet dull brown with some lighter brown thistles. Found it quite depressing. Other than that, it did its job as a stopover airport hotel: comfortable beds, good bath/shower, decent breakfast. The staff were pleasant and helpful but got the opening time of the mall wrong. The only shop nearby is a Husky petrol station shop and we were looking for a SIM card which hey don't sell. Did the half hour trek to Aberdeen Mall but it only opened at 11am and not 10 as advised. Free shuttle every half hour to and from the airport saved $ each way. Reasonable hotel, proably classed as a budget hotel by airport standards.

« Nice! Close to SkyTrain! »

My wife and I stayed here at the recommendation of our AAA travel agent before we embarked on our cruise to Alaska. Other than an extremely long wait for the free shuttle from the airport everything about this hotel was nice. Tip: there is what looks like a pay phone outside where the shuttles pick up. The Abercorn is listed on the directory so call and they will come quicker. We didn't know that! Hotel was nice and clean and staff very friendly. SkyTrain station a 7min walk but across busy streets. Best to walk there in daylight. Seems like we were downtown at the waterfront in 30 min! Complimentary breakfast was ok; nothing to get excited about but it was free! Since it was raining next morning we opted to take a cab to cruise dock. Clerk said it would be around $35 Can and she was right! Enjoyable stay and reasonably priced. Across the street from Costco!

    « Hotel Review »

The hotel had character and was close to amenities. Each time we entered our room, it had an offensive smell, like that of a boys locker room. The staff were accommodating in helping us spray a deodorizer but it really had no effect. I also didn't realize how close we were to the airport. So you could hear the planes frequently.

    4
    « Comfortable stay »

Clean rooms and friendly staff. Good Chinese restaurant next to the hotel but other restaurants are quite far (20 to 30 minutes walk). Got tired of Chinese food during 6 days of stay at the hotel. 10 minutes walk to train station. Costco across the street but did not have any use for bulk purchases during the trip.

    4
    « Very Pleasant Hotel »

Check in was very easy, busy but staff dealt with it no problem. Our room was nice, spacious and clean. Large bathroom. Great coffee in the morning for us that couldn't sleep with the time difference. Close to airport but not really much more around except other hotels. Comfortable beds and pillows but A/C is very noisy. I did feel it was over priced though.

« Needs renovation and General Cleaning »

We reserved 3 rooms and stayed for 2 nights im so sorry for the management but its not worth the money.. The staff were so nice - thanks Ms Regina ??????????for for untiring effort for trying to accomodate our request.. Its just being together in one level for the 3 rooms made difference if the other lady who got in charge for doing the scheduled room put us together in same level..??not so very happy about it..about the hotel in general- the rooms- lobby and washrroms- really need general renovation and general cleaning because the smell is really not what you want to smell in a hotel specially when a/c is not on.. Also its not the noise of the vehicles and airplane outside that makes the room noisy, its the aircondition- i got very sick and didn't get any sleep because if the air condition noise.. The breakfast surrounding is good points???????????? but overall the hotel owner needs to try to sleep in room 320 so that he/she will realize how upsetting to pay $$$ sleeping in that room.. I want to also give ????????????to the staff who andwered all my phone calls because my auntie accidentally left her iphone5 and they are willing to mail it to me with my expense.. Thanks to the staff.. And im so sorry the i will give????to the facility.. I have a 7 month old baby and i got really hesitant because of the smell when we came in the room.. Maybe air freshener could help..please????

    « Very Pretty »

Lovely looking hotel, easy check in and big spacious room. Bed is quite comfortable, large bathroom. All very clean.. Staff are very helpful and happy to serve you. Perfect free coffee for anyone who cant sleep!

« Stop over before cruise »

Hotel is very outdated, rooms smelled musty had to open a window and keep a.c. on in order to sleep. I always stayed at best western but was very disappointed with this hotel I will be telling AAA to not recommended this hotel to any of their customers. They had only a Chinese food restaurant attached to the hotel but since room and hallways smelled I didn't dare eat there and walked down the street to Tim Hortons which was not that good either. The elevator was scary was afraid it was going to get stuck between floors. Hotel staff were friendly but not enough to stay again

    2
« Over due for an overhaul »

Property is in need of a renovation. Carpet in room was dirty and worn, furniture looks like it came out of the 1970s. Not sure what criteria Best Western is using to classify this property as a "PLUS".

    « Nice find! »

Came here tonight but just for the pub! Very quiet in here but had a lovely chatty barman. Only had a few beers but mostly probably the most expensive beers we've had in all our 16 day visit in Vancouver! Over 8 dollars w pint! Nice place but be aware!

« Goed hotel na een lange reis »

Friendly reception, clean hotel and comfortable room. Noisy airco. Very comfortable bed and cushions. Breakfast (complimentary) is okay but real knives, cups and plates would be much better, please think about the environment too.

« A very Good Hotel near Vancouver Airport »

This is the hotel to stay at after a Long haul Flight. A few min. Wait for a Free Shuttle Bus to Hotel. Journey time max 10 min . This Hotel has a very good Breakfast. An ideal base to relax & before collecting Hired car from Airport Car Rental Desks next morning ( by using Shuttle Bus )

    3
« Staff pay attention to detail »

My review of this place is one that the staff has not given personal attention to. The refrigerator in the room was unplugged and when asked to fix it the gentleman said I can't. The coffee maker Was not Working. When the when the call was made to the front desk the call was not answered after 27 rings. They did some compensation with points. I remember the day when this hotel had a beautiful dining room and wonderful meals. There is no dining in this hotel. So remember what you're getting.

    4
« Clean, convenient and good value. »

The Abercorn Inn has an old fashioned charm to it. My room was very nice and the bed was really comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the breakfast buffet, especially the hot food - eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. I would stay there again in the future. It was nice to have breakfast included and overall was good value for Richmond in the summer.

    3
    « OK I guess »

We stayed at the Best Western on several nights with a tour group. The location is good for travel via the skytrain but the surroundings are depressing, rubbish and ill kept footpaths. The Asian restaurant attached was very full of Chinese and noisy but there is not much other choice. The rooms were fine but the AC didn't work very well and if you left the window open it was very noisy..

    5
« NIce place to stay »

Great shuttle, proximity to Skytrain, and fabulous service made our stay in Richmond an enjoyable one. Many thanks to the helpful and friendly staff for satisfying my requests for early check-in, choice of room location, etc. Could't ask for better service!

« BW Abercorn Inn Hotel »

Staying in this hotel is like revisiting Scotland yet still having my feet on the ground in BC Canada Scones and porridge for breakfast, carpets with the Scottish thistle and the headboard had one too! Not so good with the cleanliness and maintenance of the room though! On checking I found someone else's dirty clothes left in the room and lights which did not works and not enough tea and coffee left for two people let alone one person! Don't you hate that..! Awesome reception staff who fixed the problems.

    3
    « Not what I expected »

Our room was adequate, but for the price I expected a bit more for my money. Our bed was fine and room was clean but I thought we'd have more room and a bit nicer for the price. I've had better elsewhere.

    2
    « Abercorn Hotel »

Hotel worn out, internet useless, no strong signal, very expensive for the accommodation. Needs total refurbishment of lower cost to be commensurate with the hotel. On the upside, staff very helpful, attentive.

    3
« Close to Airport, 1/4 Mile from Bridgeport Skyrail Station to Downtown »

Kind of an odd Best Western Plus. A fake Tudor hotel - really? The property is dated. It has been added on to over the years. The bath had been tastefully redone and the rooms are large and comfortable. The beds are comfortable. But, the air conditioner is noisy and the busy road makes it too noisy to open the windows. The halls are dark. The chairs in the pub/breakfast room are broken down and uncomfortable. The buttons in the elevators are filthy. The lay-out of the breakfast buffet is frustrating. All of the 'stations' that you need to wait for (the toasters & waffle iron) are at one end so everyone bunches up and blocks the cereal and yogurt selections. The preparation space is not large enough to serve the hundreds of people this property can accommodate. The hotel is located close to the airport and an easy walk to the Skyrail that goes Downtown. We didn't eat at the restaurant adjacent to the hotel - the reviews were not good. There are a handful of restaurants within a short driving distance. A couple are within a short walking distance - but it is a scary walk right next to a very fast and busy road. Homeless people were sleeping along the road when we walked it. After the first night, we chose to eat before we returned to the hotel. The staff are very helpful which always goes a long ways. It was an ok stay, but not up to what we have come to expect in a Best Western Plus.

« Poor Security and dated »

My vehicle was broken into and ransacked. Parked right in front for high visibility didn't help. After being told by front desk that there hasn't been any issues, I found out later from RCM Police that it is a problem location. Poorly lit parking lot marginal security and sketchy neighbourhood. As far as the room and facilities washroom in room had pubic hair on the toilet seat, floor, and toilet needed attention with cleaning . Carpets were worn and dirty so bad that I didn''t want to take off my shoes. Room smelled old and stale. Hotel is dated and needs serious work. Breakfast was pathetic including a danish water or coffee. Topped my all time location for poor value, overpriced misrepresented and not even close to acceptable accommodations. This is one location where you need a plan 2 and backup hotel. Highly suggest looking at and inspecting your room before staying. I will never be back here and will be cautious of any Best Western in the future. I have stayed in cheap $60 night hotels which were way better than the Best Western Abbercorn Richmond.

    « night before flight »

The proximity to YVR ,Costco and restaurant and designer outlet shopping is good. It could be walkable ( about 1 1/2Kilometers ) Easy to get to airport but there is an shuttle from the hotel if needed

« Launch point to Cruise »

We stopped here coming and going from an Alaskan Cruise. Left car here with no hassle. Staff were extremely helpful with booking cab for morning and recommending places to eat. We had arrived tired and a bit traumatized by Vancouver traffic! They were super patient and kind.

    3
    « Has a few issues »

Room was clean We have a room out the front of motel road noise is a issue especially since airconditioner was very niosy had to open window which meant too noisy to sleep well . Also we had issues with the taps for the shower couldnt get taps to regulate properly advised reception they promperly had someone come to check but solution was to say would have maintenance look at it in morning (not helpful when all you want is a shower after a long haul flight )

    4
    « Clean, but a little dated »

Overall the room was fine; it was clean, bed comfortable, towels were great, in-room coffee maker was great. It was nice to be able to open the window, even though it did not provide much ventilation. Sound proofing was adequate, we didn't have any issues with road/airplane noise. The hotel appears a bit older, but it was clean where it counted. Breakfast variety met our needs, and there was plenty of it. The bathroom amenities were okay; the overly dyed body wash and shampoo made us reluctant to use them, so we didn't. Refrigerator in our room didn't work, which we mentioned upon check-out.

    2
« Not worth the money »

This hotel used to have a restaurant which is one reason why we booked. For $181 it was definitely not worth the money. They have leased the kitchen to a Chinese restaurant, there is a pizza place nearby but doesn't deliver after 8 pm. There is no balcony and the room is very plain. There is a bar but no-one in it as there is no food served whatsoever. Only benefit is close to the airport but so are many other hotels.

    4

Very nice bed and rain shower. Place looks outdated but room is fine. Friendly staff and good breakfast. Airport shuttle available. Located near Canada Line (10 min) so conveinient for going downtown.

« Noisy and not that pleasant »

This hotel is in need of an update. It is right by the highway and very noisy. The indoor traffic from people dragging their luggage is also noisy. Room was clean and bed okay. Our plane was in the afternoon, but we decided to hang out at the airport instead. Breakfast was adequate. Shuttle left on time.

    « " Great place near the Airport " »

Stayed 3 nights and enjoyed the friendly and helpful staff. The place is well maintained and clean though a little crowded when groups are in residence. The buses need another place to load and unload their passengers instead of at the front door blocking other from entering or leaving. Very good breakfast but we had to laugh and wonder why at this great facility/breakfast place they were using paper plates and plastic eating utensils. We had just stayed at another Hotel whose breakfast place was half as good but used china and proper eating utensils. This Hotel is very close to the train line to get Downtown and to the Airport which was very handy so one didn't have to take the car into town with all the hassels of parking. All in all a good place to stay and will certainly use the Hotel when next in the Vancouver area.

« Clean, but only OK »

My husband chose Abercorn Inn because of its proximity to airport for a very early departure. Desk staff was absolutely delightful and welcoming. Decor is dated and quite odd, but bed and bath were extremely clean. We appreciated the efficient shuttle at 4 am!

« Great hotel for catching your flight »

My husband and I had an early morning flight and were looking for somewhere close to crash the last night of our trip. Abercorn was surprisingly nice for a chain airport hotel..Airport hotels aren't particularly well known for being anything to look at, but Abercorn's Scottish motif was actually pretty cute. While our stay was nothing special, we had spent the 2 nights prior at a trendy loft that was home to the world's most uncomfortable bed...and we were ecstatic to ditch the aesthetics in exchange for air conditioning and a very soft king bed. We had almost stayed at the casino just down the road, but after stopping in to gamble for a second, were glad we chose a quieter spot. This is the perfect place if you're flying out early, I don't think you could be any closer and there's a gas station a few doors down if you need to fill up your rental car before you drop it off.

    3
    « Great Location »

The Hotel was OK but nothing extra special. Very clean rooms and very helpful and friendly staff. We left our car and walked to the near sky train station. If you are travelling by air, the airport was very close by. The complimentary breakfast was good, serving both hot and cold choices. We ate dinner at the nearby Casino.

« Well located for airport and for train into Vancouver »

The hotel room was ok. The hallways and other parts of the hotel looked like they needed updating. Bizarrely, to reach our bathroom, we had to go down two large steps. We didn't have any problems but it seemed a VERY strange design. The bottom line- if you need a hotel near the airport or if you want to use it to save some money and ride the train into Vancouver, this is a decent if unspectacular option.

« Excellent hotel for early flight »

We stayed one night at this Best Western in Richmond. The staff were really friendly, great check in. Room was small but very clean. Breakfast area was great, heaps of room. Free shuttle bus to airport and only takes 15mins. Would definitely recommend if needing to catch an early flight from Vancouver airport.

    4
    « Quaint Hotel »

It looks rather like an old carriage inn. It is the only Best Western we have been to that requires a parking permit to be shown. Internally it is rather on the dark side and the decor throughout reminds you of the 1940's. That said, the room was a reasonable size with the usual amenities and very clean. The breakfast was very good with plenty of seating in the dining area. It is conveniently situated for Vancouver Airport, but probably not somewhere you would stay if you were visiting Vancouver.

    2
    « Old and dated »

The hotel is dated and old, but location is where we wanted it. It's about 10-15 mins walking to Richmond night market, and not very far from airport. Breakfast included is a plus however we didn't eat there. There is a business center with 2 computers and a printer. You may check in and print boarding passes if needed.

    3
    « A Bit Dated »

We stayed one night at this hotel after flying back from Europe. We chose the hotel due to the flexible park and fly package. We parked our car here when we took off and returned 14 days later, stayed the night and then drove home. The hotel is large and the parking program was easy and straightforward. The entire hotel felt a bit dated. The decor was a number of years old and seemed tired. That said, our room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The HVAC system is the typical, wall-mounted-below-the-window unit, which was pretty noisy. Fortunately, we were both tired from the long trip and slept well, anyway. I probably wouldn't recommend the hotel for anything other than a single-night stayover when traveling through the Vancouver airport.

    4
    « Friendly »

The hotel was a comfortable place to sleep at the end of busy sightseeing days. The staff were very friendly. The free breakfast was the typical Best Western breakfast but satisfying. We enjoyed our stay.

    4
« Old hotel, friendly staff »

The hotel is being renovated so there was a bit of noise. Hopefully the old plumbing is being upgraded as the pipes were noisy and the sink didn't drain well. Seems to be an older hotel. Rooms were clean. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Breakfast was OK, not great. Great location close to airport. Only real complaint was the airport shuttle driver was rude and then dropped me off at arrivals with my 4 suitcases. I asked him to take me to departures and he said 'no'.

  • 4
« Great location and price »

Location was very convenient - close to YVR and skytrain. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Even though it was by a busy road, the rooms were very quiet. Breakfast was a nice selection of fruit, eggs, waffles, and sausage. Will come again.

    3
    « Ok I guess »

Would I stay here again? No . On a very busy street so no fresh air! Room size for 2 people just barely! Carpet needs replacing badly! Thin walls and wifi is intermittent at best! On the other hand room was clean, breakfast was good and parking/location was good!

« Hmm don't know what to say!!!!! »

Flew in today to meet family that was already here! We were told room would be ready in half hour even though we were early! We had booked three room three months in advance. Finally got one room around 2pm and was told within the hour the next room would be ready. 345pm rolls around ... We call the front desk to check on the room and were told another half hour! Finally by 430pm we get the keys to the room! Excited and relieved we move kids luggage and head over to the new room! Open the door and to our astonishment find a man in his boxers in the room!!!!!! We went back down to front desk and were told they are so busy they double booked plus they didn't know how that man got our room!!! Really!!!!!!!!! Double booked gave our room to someone else!! We have just come from a long flight and have to deal with this!! They made us wait another hour to get the new room finally but this is completely not professional! What hotel does that .. How weird and embarrassing it was to walk into a room to find a man in his boxers already there!!!!!! I have no words to describe my feelings and shock!!! Warning even if u book months in advance they can give your room up to someone else or double book and then make u wait .. Didn't we suffer enough!!!!

« Hotel with great location and a rustic feel »

This hotel is a bit dated, but we did not mind. There was construction on the roof during our stay, but there was no noise from it that bothered us. There was a certain stench in the bathroom at first. Not sure what it was, but it went away with the passing days. Breakfast was free and wifi in the rooms was also free. The staff were friendly and helpful. The shuttle service to and from the airport is extremely convenient. It is only a short drive. Our shuttle driver was a very affable young man, and he helped us get acquainted with Richmond and Vancouver during our short drive.

« Nice hotel near airport »

We flew into Vancouver and stayed here overnight before our cruise. It was close to the airport and they offered a shuttle to and from the airport. The rooms were clean and fairly spacious. The only problem was that we faced a noisy highway. Service was great and they offered a nice continental breakfast.

    4
« Great Location for Airport Access »

Stayed one night prior to departure flight following a cruise. Perfect location for airport access offering shuttle service to the airport. For very early departures like ours, they even provided pastries prior to the regular breakfast time, which was nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and comfortable, but no frills. The only complaint is that the Wi-Fi was spotty, making it difficult to work, stream movies, etc.

    4
« Close to the Airport with Shuttle »

My mother and I made reservations in March for a handicapped room in June. When we book - no problem, there will be a handicapped room for you. My mother is in a wheelchair. Got to hotel just after midnight, no handicapped room available, apparently we go the last room. Nice young man, very professional at the front desk. We couldn't get the wheelchair in the bathroom, so I basically had to carry her in. Shower was out of the question. Was very disappointed. My mother wanted a nice hot shower after travelling most of the day. The breakfast was excellent.

    3
    « Older but OK »

Stayed 3 nights from 13 May 2016. An older motel, but nicely appointed with super comfy beds. The breakfast room was really nice with a good selection. Location was good, with a 10 minute walk to train station for day trips into the city. Reception staff very friendly. I would not stay again though as the airconditioner was so old and noisy that we had to turn it off to sleep which also made the room very uncomfortable for sleeping. So it was a no win situation. After long haul flights it was not ideal. If getting sleep is your priority, look elsewhere, maybe River Rock Hotel which is newer and is right next to train station.

    4
    « Always a Pleasure. »

It is always a pleasure to stay there. Staff is friendly and helpful. The bar tender is always takes good care of his guests. He is experienced in his trade. The complementary breakfast is always good, plentiful and filling. Three staff members were buzzing around making sure that the tables were always clean and the food was well stocked. I was too bad that the restaurant next door only does oriental food as the guests who come through the hotel front doors are from all over the world and would like to try a mix of Canadian food. You will have to drive to a close restaurant or possibly the hotel shuttle will take you there.

    3
« Aging Airport Motel Benefitting From High Demand »

They are trying hard to make a silk purse out of a pig's ear. Assets: easy access to airport; overly large room and bath; big tub, thick towels; opening windows, king bed, elevator and wheel chair access, free wi-if, clean, pleasant and proficient management Liabilities: dated decor, moderate lighting, no pool or work-out room, inadequate breakfast serving area, no restaurant (though good Chinese food available next door), and very inflated prices because of the prevalent pricing in YVR market. A stop-over hotel for airport users.

« Great location, close to airport, and free shuttle. »

WE stayed overnight and found this hotel very comfortable. We enjoyed the bar drinks and chinese restaurant attached. Free shuttle to airport was a bonus.Very good value for money, would highly recommend.

    4
« Close to the airport with shuttle service starting at 4am. »

Excellent location with shuttle service to the airport if you have an early morning flight. Hotel has a dated decor, but my room at least was quite roomy and clean. Hotel staff was very nice as you would expect in Canada. The hotel offered free WIFI but the quality in my room was just okay with signal strength pretty weak and slow. Okay for email and such, that's about it. They had a bar that operated from 4pm-10pm and there was a Chinese restaurant attached to the hotel, but I think it was independently owned and operated. I left to early to try the complimentary breakfast, so I have no opinion on that. A decent 3 star hotel that lived up to its rating and is close to the casino if you want other options for food or entertainment.

    3
    « nice hotel »

we where very disappointed to get plastic knives and forks, plates and bowls at breakfast. Even the cups where paper. Bedroom was nice and it was nice to have a fridge and freezer which we needed for our salmon. Bathroom was fantastic and so was the room.

    4
« Very good no nonsense hotel »

Excellent value for money ... comfortable beds in clean rooms, good free internet, helpful staff. Generous complimentary breakfast. Free airport shuttle also very much appreciated. Would stay there again.

    « alaskan cruise »

free shuttle from airport. walking distance to subway stat to cruise terminal. hotel has old world look but clean, big, modern rooms. some road noise from hwy that runs near by but not bad. at the time no resturant but one was to be added. places to eat are with walking distance. breakfast was good and lots of good food. seemed like anyone going on a cruise stays here. very glad we stayed after a long flight. bathrooms where very upscale and big.

    5
    « Above average »

Nice property, desk staff excellent. Great shuttle to airport, nice location. Ten minute walk to night market, 5 minute walk to Tim Horton. Beautiful property. Clean room, very comfortable bed. Very satisfied, overall.

    « LOCATION & COMFORT »

We have stayed several times at the Abercorn when flying overseas from Vancouver. It is a modest, comfortable hotel with parking travelers. Staff are excellent. Rooms are large, well appointed and comfortable. The tram to downtown Vancouver is but a 10 minute walk away.

    4
« Good location with a great price »

Great price for stay. Didn't want to spend the high $$$$ for something in downtown Vancouver since we were departing on a cruise within 2 days. The room met our needs completely. Close to transportation from airport to downtown areas (even with luggage). The staff was excellent and offered recommendations when requested. The shuttle driver deserves many kudos for going above and beyond. When asked if he could make a slight detour from the normal airport to hotel/hotel to airport to drop my wife and I at the skytrain terminal (3 blocks away), he indicated it would not be a problem.

    4
    « HOTEL »

This hotel was very nice. The only draw back, was no place near to eat. If you want a place to eat you had to take a taxi or rent a car. Everything else was very nice. The people where very helpful. Near the airport & did have hotel shuttle avaibale.

    4
« Charming Hotel with a Scottish Theme »

Stayed for 5 nights and we were not disappointed. The Staff were so polite and helpful. The beds were very comfortable and we couldn't fault the cleanliness of the room and the Hotel overall. Breakfast was available in the price and the food was very good. There was a ten minute walk to the Sky Train at Bridgeport Staion which went into Downtown Vancouver Waterfront which was a pleasant journey. You can buy an all day ticket from the Station vending machines which also covers the cost on the water Bus across to North Vancouver.

« We liked this hotel »

It looked a little bit outdated, but it is very clean, beds are comfortable, and staff is very welcoming and helpful. For those who needs to stay overnight before or after a flight the location is great too - very close to the airport and 5 minutes walk to Bridgeport train station. They also offer free shattle to YVR. Breakfast was good and plenty. The only tiny minus was that coffee mashine didn't work in our room, or may be we coudn't make it work, but they offer us a free tea, so it wasn't a big issue. We would recomend that hotel, especially for a short stay.

    4
« Older property with lots of character »

Not the newest place in Richmond and the area isn't very scenic (compared to Vancouver) but they do have free parking and a nice breakfast buffet. Staff was always friendly and very helpful. Very close to Canada Line light rail service.

    4
    « A convenient hotel »

-conveniently located -condition generally good, though a bit old -limited choices of food provided in hotel breakfast -smell of air freshener too strong in the corridor and leaked into my room and I sneezed a lot -internet good -staff polite

« close to vancouver airport »

The Abercorn Inn is comfortable for an overnight stay but is definitely looking tired. THe front desk area needs a good updating and a fresh look as getting a bit shabby. The room was average, windows opened for fresh air, small bathroom but very comfortabel beds.TV was a nice size and WIFI in room which was good, Included hot breakfast was good with decent choices.

« Great for the aiport »

This was a great way to get to the airport. Hotel provided breakfast after 6:30 am, and we caught the 7 am shuttle. Close to a couple of restaurants including Chinese in the hotel. We chose the Italian up the street. We had a king room with a Jacuzzi tub and thoroughly enjoyed it. Please bring ear plugs as the street is noisy. Staff were fantastic.

    5
    « Oustandings and comfortable »

The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcomed, as we stayed for 5 days. we were treated as if we were family and not just another guest., I would recommend this place to anyone. It also has very great breakfast buffet.

    5
    « Valuable deal »

Comfortable bed, good breakfast, gym, free shuttle to the airport, beautiful view. Silent rooms, even though it's near the airport. Easy access to downtown area via skytrain (7min walk from the hotel)

    « a trouble free stay »

Stayed at the Abercorn Inn in Richmond, nice hotel kinda no hassle stay trouble free. Close to YVR like 10 minutes and the Richmond area hosts a wide variety of eateries and restaurants at every level of service. Service and consistency is what we look for and the staff at the Abercorn inn really lived up to that. Took all the fear out of the big city traffic experience and the kaos when coming from a small town.

    4
    « Still doing great! »

The wife and i stayed here last week for 2 nights. There was a little confusion with our Airmile reservation but the front desk sorted it out quickly. As usual staff is very professional and friendly. Our room is always clean. We like staying at the Abercorn when passing thru YVR. Convienant, clean, free airport shuttle complimentary breakfast and nice friendly staff.

    4
    « No Problem »

Not five star , but nor am I. Did everything I needed for a 5 day stay. The restaurant next door is much used by the locals but did not suite our taste' They have a basic menu that they offer to non asians and a much more complete menu for the locals. Food was good, big serves and staff good.

    « Holiday in Vancouver »

My first trip to Vancouver was so pleasant that I am still talking about it with my friends and family. The Best Western Plus Abercorn Inn hotel staff were extremely helpful and will always recommend the hotel to anyone.

    4
    « Weekend getaway »

We were looking for something close to the casino in the area but in our price range. The Best Western chain has always met or exceeded our expectations. This hotel is a couple of blocks from the place we wanted to visit, reasonably priced and included the complimentary breakfast. Our room faced the busy road and there was a bit of traffic noise. We had expected noise from the airplanes landing at the nearby airport and had - accordingly - brought earplugs. However, the road is a major ambulance route and we did hear a couple of sirens during the night (a Saturday). This may not be as big an issue during the week. The room was nicely laid out and spacious - I loved the walk in shower! The complimentary (hot) breakfast had a nice selection of items for everyone and the use of the restaurant area for the breakfast crowd was a nice treat.

    4
    « friendly »

This is an older property but the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff was excellent. Room was clean, comfortable bed, and wifi was fast. The restaurant next door was not to our liking as the family of the ownership was in the restaurant playing. We chose to leave and walk down the street to Moxies, about 7 minutes. Will stay there again.

    3
    « Tired old hotel »

Front desk reception was welcoming. Rooms are rather dreary with old brown colours everywhere. The place needs a good refreshing re-do. The exercise room - exaggeration- has 3 machines! Only one elevator. No shopping nearby but a 10-minute walk to Sky train then 18 minutes to the Richmond Centre Mall which has great shops and great food court. What is nearby is Foody World, a grocery store with wonderful Asian choices. Free shuttle to the airport 10-minute walk to the River Rock Casino.

« Getting the silent treatment.. »

We booked this hotel as a hot rate deal on hotwire for a stay at the beginning of August. This was the first time using hotwire that I felt that the rating and discount offered was misleading. Anyhow, unfortunately our plans changed and we are no longer able to stay at this property. Hotwire informed me that they pay a certain amount to the hotel and if they were to refund me they would be out of this money. Ok, I get it. I thought it would be worthwhile to explain the situation to the hotel itself, after all, having worked in hospitality, I know that a lot of things are up to the hotels discretion. So far, I have sent them two very polite e-mails. The first one to explain the pickle we are in and the second to inquire whether they had received my previous inquiry. Whatever the response would have been, I could have dealt with it. But I am getting the silent treatment. Happy to take my money but not even giving me the curtesy to respond. Just waiting for me to just go away.. Shame on you Best Western Plus Abercorn Inn. I should have continued to just book hotels at the 4* or above level. The "non" service speaks volumes.

    « busines trip »

The hotel has been remopdled and is now one of the nicest hotels I stay ay during my business trips. the staff are excellant. It is only about 7 min to the Victoria arirport and walking distance to the harbour. Great place for family vacation.

« Annual Return to the Abercorn. »

I have been visiting the Abercorn since the 1980's and always find the service quite outstanding.Even though I only visit once a year, the front desk always recognises me. My compliments to 'Aman', always most courteous and welcoming. On this occasion I was upgraded to a suite (311), a nice touch for my loyalty. I note comments from other reviewers regarding the lack of a restaurant. I fondly remember the old restaurant and looked forward to having dinner there. Deborah and Nellie always looked after me. Times change and one has to consider the financial implecations of running a viable restaurant. The housekeeping should always be remembered for the excellent service they provide - well done. The shuttle service from the airport is quick and efficient. I look forward to my next visit to this efficient, friendly and welcoming hotel in Richmond BC.

« Quick and pleasant stay »

Quick business trip to Vancouver via air travel. Stayed at the BW for two nights. Free shuttle to and from the airport - quick ride i'd say about 10mins. Very pleasant and attentive staff. BCAA rates apply. Accepted a BW Travel voucher i have earned along the way. Hotel has character and looks a little dated but that is part of charm of this place. Hallways are a bit dark and dated but functional. Rooms were clean and presentable. Free wifi and speed was good. TV monitor was large enough for the room and the AC functioned. Complimentary breakfast - but it's busy and you have to get used to 'pushing' into the line up - which i'm uncomfortable with as the seating area is amble but the food offering area is a little cramped. Skytrain is a quick 10min walk and then a 15min train ride in (about $4 for a 2 zone ticket). Not much to eat around this place - i went to Moxies down the road for a little pub food and atmosphere. Overall very happy with the staff and found the facility meet my needs and expectations. Thanks!

« Lost the British Charm »

I have stayed at the Abercorn multiple times over the years and have always enjoyed the unique British flavour or this hotel. However, lately this fun personality has gone. The pub/restaurant is no longer :( .The lonely bartender does his best to entertain the 1 or 2 patrons who come in for a drink but they always leave early. He has only chips & cheesies to offer as food. The Shanghai Wonderful next door has good food but the floodlit restaurant is disturbing and it is completely lacking in personality. My room was excellent and the service, as always, was very good. However, the breakfast was invaded by a very pushy tour group who took away the fresh fruit in armfuls.

    5
« Much quieter than i would have thought! »

Great service, great sleep at this hotel. I just stayed for one night for a conference nearby. Close to Costco for food etc.And I could walk to my meeting place in just a few minutes! Very comfortable bed and room, no noise from outside, ice machines or elevators!

« Great Value and location »

The hot breakfast is good. The waffle maker is excellent idea but there is no whipped cream and strawsberry sauce to go with it. The fridge in the room has a misty smell. The washroom in the room is very beautiful with latest walkin shower.

    4
    « Comfortable short stay »

Checked in for a very short stay before a morning flight. Friendly, helpful person at front desk. The time slot we needed for the shuttle to the airport was full, so the hotel provided a complimentary taxi instead and it arrived on time. We had to leave before breakfast was available, but there was coffee and pastry in the lobby to start the day. Room was good. Location was close to airport.

    4
    « Very good service »

Every thing was fine except the road noise We stay at this hotel quite often and this is the first time with the noise. Now that they have a restaurant at the hotel it makes it that much better. Also the bar is open again so after a long trip it is nice to sit and enjoy a pint and watch some TV

    5
« Gets the job done »

Close to the airport with a reliable shuttle service, comfy firm beds and a take away bag breakfast for those leaving too early to get in on the scheduled meal starting at 6. It was a small fee to park our car there for the duration of our trip. The decor is unique and interesting. Worth it if you have an early flight and prefer to be close to the airport and have a safe place to keep your car while you are away. Great, friendly staff too!

    « Great team »

I have read some of the previous reviews, and decided to come with an open mind. The hotel looks from the outside like a European style, it has a cute look with the red wood framing. We were greeted very warmly by the reception crew. Especially by Jian, Thanks to him our stay in Richmond and Vancouver was very successful. Thanks to Jian, we took the skybus, left our car in the hotel's parking lot, and were able to walk and travel without worrying about parking availability. The hotel is located relatively very close to the skybus so it's easy to travel from and to Vancouver or the airport ( the hotel itself has an airport Shuttle). Our stay in the hotel itself was devided in two. Hospitality and accommodations. Hospitality, again thanks to Joan it was more than prefect. Jian was very polite, courteous and knowledgeable. He helped us with information and coupons for the hop on hop off bus in Vancouver and information about the trains, shuttles and eateries. Complimentary breakfast is served, the staff once again, very attentive and kind. Accommodations were where we felt there could have been more of an effort. The overall smell is dated, and stale in both hallways and the room itself. Cleanliness of the room lacked in the bathroom, it had a "hibernated" spider (we left it there), and more spider webs in the corners of the bathroom. The towels were clean but with hair remains on 3 different towels. All in all thanks to staff and location we will give it 4 stars but cleanliness and smell are worth 2 stars (pushing it).

    2
« Smelly Rooms and Outdated »

My room did not have a shower curtain, the window was left open to air out the smell in the room, the internet did not work in the morning and the breakfast was low quality and crowded and slow due to a tour group.

    4
    « Friendly Service, Clean & Comfortable »

We stayed here to recover from an international flight and jet lag. Even though we checked in early the reception staff were able to provide a room. It was spacious and very clean. There was a bit of traffic noise but it didn't disturb our sleep. The bar was a great place to relax with a drink before dinner. Overall the service was so friendly and helpful that we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

    4
« Very comfortable stay, good location »

we stayed 2 nights at this hotel and it was in a great location to be able to get to downtown Vancouver on the Skytrain. The Skytrain was about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the hotel and easy to access. We were interested in seeing Stanley Park and the Aquarium and all we had to do was take the train and then connect to the #19 bus. So easy! We drove so it was easy to go to restaurants and visit Steveston as well. The rooms were large enough for 2 adults and 2 children and the breakfasts were very good.

    4
« Great Airport Hotel Option »

The Best Western Plus Abercorn Inn ticked all the boxes when researching airport hotels in Vancouver. The airport shuttle was much appreciated and timely, the building is nice without being luxurious and the free internet and breakfast topped it all off. If you require a nice, affordable hotel near Vancouver airport I would recommend the Best Western Plus Abercorn Inn.

    4
« Inexpensive Airport Hotel with Free Shuttle »

Clean rooms, comfortable beds, friendly staff, great price, free parking, complimentary breakfast, WiFi and airport shuttle. Everything you could need or want in an airport hotel. I only wish they would bring back meal service in the lounge. It is such a comfortable spot and it is disappointing that you can't a light meal to go with your drink. (Yes, there is a Chinese restaurant next door but ....)

  • 5
    « Great character hotel »

We always enjoy staying here because the place has character. The Scottish theme is refreshing - thistles, tartans, and other décor make it really homey. Wish that some Scottish or British-style food was served in the pub.

    4
    « Overnight before vacation »

Stayed at the Abercorn for one night before an early morning flight. We have stayed there previously, and were not disappointed. One great benefit is the ability to leave our car there for two weeks while on vacation. Although somewhat dated, in part due to the "British" decor, the room was well furnished, spacious, and clean. The bed was very comfortable, and we enjoyed a good night sleep. Breakfast in the morning was considerably better than many hotels, with a good choice of hot and cold food. Staff were very helpful, and we had no complaints. Shuttle to and from the airport was also welcome. Will definitely stay there adain.

    « housekeeping skills »

room was lacking in housekeeping skills, no toilet paper, broken coffee pot, food left in fridge from previous guests, we wonder what else the maid forgot to do..(change sheets). also would have been nice to have a coffee in the room if the keurig would have worked

    3
    « Business Stay »

The hotel is good value if you need a place to stay without all the extras. It is nice and close to the airport if you need to get away quickly to catch a flight. I would skip the breakfast unless you are only interested in toast and coffee

Decided to book a room just outside of the Vancouver Airport given the weather was really nasty out, and we weren't sure how to get out of the area in the dark. The Abercorn was cozy enough, check in and out went well. Would have liked to see a page in the hotel book that had the tv channels listed as it was hard to find anything on the tv. Also, a small fridge would have been nice. Otherwise, it was ok for a 1 night stay on a stormy night.

« Great stay at a great hotel »

Lovely staff, very welcoming when we checked in. They confirmed that they had our loyalty card information We had a very comfortable room, clean and well provisioned. We liked the Keurig coffee maker and it was nice to have a mini fridge. The wifi was great. We really enjoyed our breakfast, helpful staff and a good variety of breakfast items. The Express checkout was effortless and parking was right at the front door.

« No airport shuttle for late transitters »

no available airport shuttle for late arrivals at YVR Airport (on contrary to the announced free shuttle to/from airport) No one to help in taking the luggage to your room in the hotel although as I am in transit through YVR Airport, I had 5+ pieces of luggage!

    « I stay here twice a year »

I have been staying at Best Western Abercorn Inn since 2004, and stay when flying in to Vancouver Airport from the USA, and when leaving Vancouver, so I stay twice a year. I like that they have a shuttle but you have to wait too long sometimes, although there is supposed to be one on the hour and half hour. If I am tired, I grab a cab, but sometimes the cab line is long, but moves quickly. I find the staff at the hotel very helpful. The beds are clean and comfortable, and they have a nice bar. Breakfast us included. My biggest complaint is that the lovely restaurant that used to be there is closed for good - it was called Bobby's and the decor and food was excellent. However, next door is a Chinese restaurant and because I did not want to walk around Richmond alone at night, I ate there but was not impressed. However, it is open late and better than nothing when you arrive at the hotel and are tired and hungry.

« Airport Hotel with Inadequate Airport Shuttle »

The point of staying at an airport hotel is the proximity to the airport - the convenience. This Best Western runs their free shuttle service only every 30 minutes, and the shuttle may be completely booked. We had an overnight layover in Vancouver. After driving 13 hours - with a very early morning flight the next day - we did not want to wait 30 minutes for a shuttle. AND all the morning shuttles were fully booked, so we had to pay for a second cab from the hotel to the airport! In addition, the room had gross, musty-smelling carpet. Not a big deal, but given the inconvenience, I was sorry to be there.

    4
« Super staff and assistance »

The staff here were perhaps the best ever encountered in our many stays at Best Westerns and others. They were most helpful in all ways. Check-in was handled beautifully as was check out, and personal attention was given to us when we needed assistance with the operation of the television. The entire staff was most accomodating.

    « Comfortable for a short trip »

We stayed for a couple of nights in transit, and got a clean, comfortable room with breakfast at a reasonable rate, with shuttle service to the airport. This is about the closest hotel to YVR, and good value for what you need in a stopover hotel. Breakfast was decent too, buffet style with hot eggs and bacon and the usual other items.

    3
    « Good Value - A little Dated »

I have stayed twice now at this hotel. I like how they have fridges in the room, and a free airport shuttle. The airport shuttle is very noisy, a little outdated. The rooms are generally a little outdated as it is an older hotel. They have a new Asian Restaurant in the hotel, but they no longer have the pub grub like they used too.

    4
    « Comfortable and convenient »

This hotel was all that we hoped it would be for our overnight in Vancouver.....close to the both the airport and the Bridgeport bus/train station, free shuttle that runs late, late check-in available, comfortable bed, quiet room and breakfast. Booking, check-in and check-out procedures were all quick and went very smoothly. We read that some travellers have reported problems with noise....we had no problems in this regard. Only criticism is the paper plates, plastic cutlery and styrofoam cups at breakfast...unpleasant and totally environmentally unfriendly.

    4
    « Quiet and comfortable »

Great bed, and our room was very quiet. Close to all amenities in Richmond, and close to airport. Friendly staff. Across from Costco and close to Ikea. Proximity to any shopping need is great. From May - Oct. close to Richmond Night market too!

« One night stay prior to flight out of YVR. »

Nice hotel with very friendly staff. The rooms are nice and are clean and the morning breakfast they offer is great. Please people for the love of Pete tip the lady a buck or two that cleans of the breakfast area. She does a great job and the breakfast is free. I watched people take a bunch of extra fruit for there day and leave with it, the same will complain later when they cancel the breakfast so eat what you are eating and leave cheapskates. Costco is right across the street and has a bunch of ready to eat food and a restaurant is right in the complex but we did not eat there so I have no idea how it is. All in all a great stay and would recommend it.

« Place to rest before trip back home »

I was coming back from Whitehorse and wanted to be close to the airport and wanted to try something different from last few trips. Best Western has free airport shuttle and free wifi and breakfast. Basic food but filling. Make sure you book shuttle and calculate your time carefully for transit (15 mns), security and border (if US travel). Style of hotel is dated and in need of some modernization, Bathrooms are basic and no frills. Looking for a budget hotel close to the airport, this is your place. Looking for style and higher end lodging? look elsewhere.

    4
    « good choice »

We always chose this hotel when we are flying out of Vancouver as well as shopping trips. We have stayed here many times and it is always consistent. The breakfast is very good with all the choices available. We will stay again

    3
« Old Character, Refurbished with Breakfast »

We stayed two nights on a second floor room which faced the back. Room was clean, quiet and for a 3 star hotel was completely acceptable. Entering the hotel you could tell you were in a old Vancouver hotel as a slightly musty odor greeted you. Fortunately this odor was not also in the room. Service was quick and courteous. Breakfast was what you expect in a Best Western Plus - nothing extraordinary.

    2
    « TOO MUCH NOISE! »

The rooms were fine, staff was helpful and pleasant. Awesome that they allow dogs. BUT, our experience in trying to get a good nights rest was awful! They put us in a room two doors from the entrance of the hallway, where a heavy door is closed at night. Anytime anyone goes through the door it slams loudly. This went on until about 1:30am. (I turned off the lights and tried to sleep at 10:30, but was interrupted frequently until 1:30). Also, not necessarily the hotels fault, but our next door neighbors were extremely loud coming in around 12:00am until I finally complained to front desk at 1:00am. Honestly, I think this place could be a nice place to stay, but not if you want good rest!!!

    « Just one night »

We needed somewhere to stay before an early morning flight and we are Best Western Elite members so this seemed to fit the need. Check was quick and the gentlemen at the front desk was helpful when asked for directions, The room was clean and quiet and the bed was very comfortable! We had to be up at 3 am to be on the 4 am shuttle, it left promptly and was quick. Even at 4 am they had coffee ready and some pastries and fruit. I do recommend this property for the Vancouver airport area!

« Two Night stay before flight to Sydney Australia »

We arrrived in Vancouver two days before our flight to Sydney Australia. We traveled from Montana on Amtrak and whated to allow time just incase of a rail delay that does happen often when crossing the Rocky Mountain range during the winter. All went well so arrived as soon as we could have hoped. This gave us two evenings in the Best Western Abercorn. The weather was not freindly for us with hard rain most of the time so we didn't get to walk around as much as we would have liked. The Abercron is not in what I would say would be a good location to walk around, just a busy city street with few resturants with in waking distance. I did like the breakfast that was given, about as good as you will find. I like Best Western for the all but gaurenteed quality of each motel/hotel.

    4
    « Early Morning Flight »

Great value and a great location with friendly front desk staff. A little noisy until street traffic fades later at night. Easy access to airport and nearby restaurants, etc. Parking lot a little crowed as there is a Chinese Restaurant on-site (didn't get a chance to sample). Will use this hotel again when flying out of Vancouver airport.

    4
« Late night check in »

We checked in at 1:00AM, the staff was prompt, efficient and friendly. The airport shuttle was a bonus. The room was clean and quiet, the bed was comfortable and check out was a breeze. Great place to stay, we missed the complimentary breakfast but our friends said it was excellent.

    3
    « Limited dinner options »

Older but well maintained. Across from Costco and 10-15 minute walk to the Casino. There is an Asian restaurant right next door but other than that, you're walking or driving so unless you like this open atmosphere, have that much time and are ok with the prices, walk or drive.

    4
    « BW Hotel »

Stayed here for an 4am early morning flight from YVR. Unfortunately we had to miss breakfast but they provided a free shuttle to the airport. Very nice hotel and a convieniant location for anyone flying in or out of Vancouver. I can reccommend this hotel.

    3
    « Nice »

Close to airport with shuttle and free breakfast/wifi....Nice but could use some updating Is very close to airport, and has a decent yet limited breakfast to offer Staff was always very nice and had comfortable beds... Would not hestitate to stay there again for a short stop over

    5
« Great place to stay »

As a frequent flyer out of YVR we have stayed at almost every hotel now close to airport. As we drove in I was not impressed at all but once we got into our room it was wonderful, big comfy bed , fridge, the best continental breakfast we have ever had especially after coming back from a horrible trip in Cuba. Staff was fabulous. Car was safe here. The only bad thing about this hotel is that is quite a walk to Tim's or stores, but cheap cab ride.

    2
    « Pleasant stay - bad experience. »

Had a pleasant stay initially at this Best Western Abercorn Inn although the staffing was friendly, wasn't please with the way management deal with matters. Hotel has good value though slightly older. It's near bridgeport station as with Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn, and Days Inn. Certain rooms are pet rooms and may have urine smell. The showers are consistent in certain rooms (though the recent one I had, kept flipping hot and cold). Left initially a positive review but amending my opinion in view of recent experience.

    « Great for us »

The wife and i stayed there for 2 nights in Dec and 1 night in Jan. We have stayed there numerous times over the years when passing thru YVR and Vancouver. Very friendly, helpful staff. Rooms are clean.Breakfast buffet is OK. Still a buffet, but good enough for us. Too bad there is no Pub restaurant anymore. That was real convienient when passing thru. But there is an Asian restaurant on the property that i heard was alright.Other restaurants close by. Don't eat at Italian Tomatoe! absolutely terrible and over priced. Abercorn has always been good for us and other family members. Don't get a room beside the elevator..

    « Hotel need updates »

Hotel Staff very friendly and efficient. Rooms and Hotel in general in need of updating. Old style ceiling, flooring and decor. Staff friendly and efficient. Breakfast used to be hot entree, now continental. nothing special now. used to be very good.

    « Helpful Friendly Staff---Property Needs Makeover »

We love staying in Best Western hotels, mostly because of the great staff. This was no exception as they were all most helpful and friendly. However...the hotel really needs to be updated, it is very, very "tired" and kinda dingy. Our room was dimly lit and the grout in the bathroom shower was chipped and, in some places, mouldy.

    5
    « Very accommodating for a team »

Stayed as part of a Youth sports team. Nice, clean rooms. Some of the shower heads seemed low. Keurig coffee makers and fridges, no microwave. Windows open a bit (at least on second floor). Hotel runs with the Scotland theme. Attached pub with super friendly bar keep. Free chips with beverage order.

    4
« Friendly Staff, Lovely Deep Tub »

Good location - I was having a vacation-in-the-city. It is right across the street from Costco, short ride from Ikea, easy access to downtown Vancouver via the Skytrain. They have a shuttle to/from the airport if you are coming in from out of town. There is also a very good Chinese restaurant contained in the same building - Shanghai Wonderful Restaurant.

    3
    « Average Stay »

We had stayed here 3 years ago which was good, we enjoyed the bar they had which offered late snacks. This stay we went down thinking of a late snack to be told they no longer had a menu or kitchen but did give us some chips with our drinks which I guess was okay. The pillows were really soft where we had to fold them in half. Would say if we had paid full price for this room we probably would have given a lower rating.

    1
    « Not Recommended! »

Very dated! (1970's) ...floor covering completely worn out! Room needs a lot of work! The best thing about this location is you can park your vehicle there for 7 days with the cost of the room! However the quality of the room is something to be considered! Breakfast was okay!

    4
    « Very good »

Easy access to skyline subway station to walk within 10 minutes, so tour around downtown without car-rent was the best merit for me. Location of Costco just across the road was also gave me convenience. Delicious breakfast and free shuttle bus to the airport ... are all great merit of Best West Plus.

« Nice Stay; good breakfast; friendly staff.. »

All in all I may say we have a nice stay on this hotel. Because we are so busy on a 3 nights squeezed everything plan. I didn't got a chance to take pic on our room. We are on Room 114. You see all are clean, but on our 3rd night I decided to put down the toilet cover and saw disgusting yellow rusty color on the plastic screws attaching the lid to the bowl. No microwave. So if you are planning to heat up something. You can ask their friendly staff to heat it for you. If you are light sleeper. Your room should be upstairs. We are at the lobby area so you can hear the steps and sound of water early in the morning. The breakfast is good. They have waffles, juices, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages. They have hardworking woman there. She should be promoted. =)

« Service, room and breakfast »

I an delighted to provide an excellent review of this hotel. The service was responsive and helpful. The room was comfortable but what really stood out was the superb buffet breakfast which was complimentary. The breakfast manager, Asha, was courteous, professional and the food was superb. If you eat at say 9:30 and take an apple with you, you won't need lunch. Very good value. This is the trip advisor comment I have made. I am not associated with this hotel in my way! Nicholas

    4
    « Friendly Staff/Excellent Check-in »

The hotel isn't the prettiest from the outside, but from pick up at the airport to check in the staff were extremely friendly. Rosanna, Regina and the shuttle driver (working at 7:30 pm January 6th) made me feel welcome and a valued customer. Rooms are clean and updated. Only downfall is that the breakfast does not start till 6:30 am and the shuttle does not go to the South Terminal (must leave at 6:00 am to catch first shuttle from Domestic Terminal). Please consider South Terminal drop off's.

    3
« Comfortable with pleasant staff »

Room carpets very dirty it looked like it had never been cleaned. I would never go barefoot on carpet. Overall appeared surface clean...but I wiped remote control which was pretty icky. However, I would stay again due to convenient location.

  • 5
« Good sleep; extremely helpful and friendly staff »

Most times the friendly attitude and quality of service from the staff makes up for any shortcomings of the hotel. For example, the carpet inside the bedroom looks and feels dirty and tacky -- steam cleaning will easily solve this issue; the complimentary hot breakfast is better than those offered by other hotels in the same price range, but after a while its same-old same-old predictability can be quite boring. But these are minor issues compared to the quality of sleep and friendliness/helpfulness of the staff that this hotel offers its guests.

    4
    « It was a pleasant stay »

Hotel staff were friendly enough. Staying at this hotel with 2 of my dogs for 2 nights were convenient and pleasant. One recommendation would be to improve the variety of breakfast menu. AS if I were to stay more than 2 nights, I would probably be bored of the repetitive same breakfast menu. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, I would definitely return or stay at Best Western at other locations.

« Clean rooms, friendly service, great breakfast! »

Best Western Plus Abercorn Inn is an excellent Best Western property. Would recommend staying here if you need a hotel near Richmond or YVR. (Other great options to consider are Accent Inn, really liked the service at Accent Inn, and Sandman Signature although Best Western is the only one of these three with free breakfast - full breakfast and not the Continental type) I genuinely enjoy staying at Best Western Plus Abercorn Inn primarily because of their breakfast (a fan of hotel breakfast from growing up and travelling with family)...especially a good hotel breakfast. Although you'll notice this Best Western hotel is competitively priced too. The Rooms: It's spacious rooms for a hotel room. The house keeping did a good job. The rooms were clean and comfortable and they have a K-cups coffee machine in each room to make it easy to get your caffeine. The Service: Friendly check in. Writing this review on my 2nd time staying here. I couldn't say much about my first experience since I didn't really had much interaction. I can say however with my 2nd time check in that the service was excellent. The check in person in the morning took the time to wish Happy New Year and was very quick with the check in. Location. The rooms are clean and closely located to Bridgeport station. They have an airport shuttle to and from YVR. It's a good location near Costco if you want to get some Ice cream or poutine. Breakfast: Excellent full breakfast with eggs, sausage, and a waffle maker. They have the typical variety of cereals, muffins, milk and fruits too if you prefer so. Overall, enjoyed staying at Best Western Plus Abercorn Inn. Nothing specifically fantastic to write about except the good value, friendly service, clean rooms, and free breakfast. It's a good three star hotel that's well run though nothing extraordinary from other good hotels per say. Would stay here again and would recommend it.

« Great little hotel close to airport »

Stayed over one night before an early morning flight. Great location for Free shuttle to airport about 10 min ride Nice clean quiet hotel, very pleasant staff, good value, breakfast that is included is fresh and has good variety Nice on site bar with great bar manger (no food served in bar) On site independently operated oriental restaurant was a disappointment good food but very poor service we did not receive all of our order and servers really did not care Failing grade for sure!! Next time another restaurant as there are a lot to choice from in the area

    « Friendly service »

Friendly staff and the most comfortable beds anywhere. Close to the airport with a free shuttle. Free breakfast. Often stay here when we are flying in and out of Vancouver. Can't think of any good reason to stay anywhere else.

« Free shuttle and conveniently located near airport »

We were provided with a free room by EVA airlines on our return trip to Canada from Asia. The shuttle picked us up at the airport and took us to the hotel- about 10 min away. Staff were very accommodating and were able to make a room change for us. Rooms are comfortable. Bathrooms were very nice with decent towels. Coming back from a month in Asia we didn't feel like Chinese food- a moxey's is a short walk down the street. Went to Costco across the street for a hot dog! Breakfast was decent- bacon, sausages, eggs, pastries, cereal etc. Again staff were very pleasant and helpful. I would have no problem staying here again as an overnight stop.

« Poor Xmas in Richmond at the Abbercornie »

The issue was poor room quality for an upgraded room, concerning sound and lack of ability for staff to reduce the party noise then were moved to a horrible room adjacent to the housekeeping room and across from the stairs. Overall a dismal Xmas experience. Thanks Best Western.

    « Comfortabe/Convenient »

I highly recommend this hotel for those making an overnight stop on the way to the ferry terminal or to the airport. The staff were friendly and helpful. I paid a small fee for having a dog with me, which was not a problem. The rooms were quiet and comfortable. I enjoyed the Scottish theme and the framed prints lining the wall.

« Always clean, friendly and comfortable good value. »

There have been changes since the last time I was there. The hotel has taken on a distinctly Asian appearance. New owners? It now has a Chinese restaurant attached which could be convenient if you arrive late and are looking for dinner. It has a lounge next to the front desk which is nice for an evening night cap. Friendly staff. I didn't have breakfast this time as I left too early but a full breakfast is included. All for a very good price

« Great place to stay if Flying out of Vancouver »

We've stayed here before and love the staff and easy check in service. Bed is comfortable and we seem to sleep very soundly. Breakfast includes bacon and eggs. Shuttle runs every 1/2 hour. Wifi is good. Adjoining Chinese food is the best we've ever tasted.

    « Family Visit »

Great clean hotel. Typical of BW Plus. Good location for the airport and a close to sky train for D/T Vancouver. For us a great place to stay when our family is in an accomodation overload situation. The service at this hotel was exceptional and appreciated.

    1
    « DON'T PARK HERE LONG TERM »

First let me say...I know I signed a waiver when I took the risk of parking my vehicle at this hotel (that should have been my first red flag as I've never encountered anything like this)...but the actual lack of help and empathy the staff showed for us after someone attempted to steal our vehicle right out of their parking lot was absurd. It makes me really think that this happens all the time and they are just so used to it they have stopped feeling sorry for their clients and offering any type of assistance. They didn't even realize this had happened, as we left our phone number on that form and never received a phone call. Never again will I stay/park/recommend this hotel. We requested a call from the manager and it's been 2 weeks and still haven't heard a thing from him or anyone else regarding the "security cameras" that supposedly run 24h/day.

« All Day Business Seminar. . . BUT, The hotel staff made it MUCH nicer than the presenters »

After a few years of these seminars. . . You learn to Appreciate the "Venue" more than the "Information"! The Staff here are EXCELLENT! They make the Coffee Break, The Lunch AND the Afternoon Break THE MAIN REASON to attend such a function!

    « Really gone downhill »

We've stayed here several times before while visiting family and friends but this time we were terribly disappointed. Although the decor isn't exactly modern it's a nice, clean presentable building but sadly the restaurant has been reduced to a continental breakfast that's barely adequate in comparison to others, so that was a bit of a let down but times are tough, right? Apparently times are tougher than I thought because when I had to go down to the lobby to pick up a tea kettle I was told I couldn't just leave it in our room upon checking out, I'd have to personally return it to the front desk or be charged. Interesting .... okay then! The Keurig in the room is always nice ... when it works. Nothing like being early risers to discover that a quiet coffee isn't going to happen and that's fine, things break, but when I call the front desk at 6:30 and I'm told housekeeping won't start till 8 it makes me wonder why we have to wait till then for SOMEONE to bring a working Keurig from another room?!? And why should I even need to suggest that solution to begin with? That ... was the tone of the duration of our stay so that combined with the feeling that everything's slowly and deliberately going to hell around there is why we won't be returning. I wish the housekeepers the best, they were wonderful.

    « Home away from home !! »

We stayed at the Abercorn Inn due to a family emergency. The staff at the reception desk and at the breakfast dining area were very helpful and super friendly. We will be returning soon and looking forward to our visit again. Many thanks!!

    « Great Stay »

You'll never eat the beds in this hotel for comfort. Mmm, sweet dreams. It's a great breakfast, too, and check in or out has never been easier. I'd recommend it for anyone needing a hotel near the airport. Quick, less than 10 minutes there and if you catch their shuttle you have no worries about going the long way. Great!!

    4
    « Nice, but dated »

The bus driver commented, as I got off, that he had his wedding anniversary 20 years earlier at the Abercorn Inn. This is a very nice hotel, but I suspect that the décor has not changed since the bus driver's wedding night. The hotel is in good working order, it is well kept, and the staff are very friendly. There is a great Chinese food restaurant attached to the hotel--you don't need to go far.

    4
    « Comfortable and quiet »

We recently stayed at the Abercorn on very short notice due to a family member's illness. The hotel was very welcoming, provided us with basic essentials, such as toothpaste and toothbrushes, and inquired whether we would need a slightly later check-out the next morning due to our late arrival. This was very much appreciated, as we were in a bit of a difficult situation. Our room was quiet and clean, with a comfortable bed, and a very nice updated washroom. Parking was free and breakfast was included. Will visit again, hopefully under better circumstances.

    3
    « Rooms are dated ... »

Have stayed at this hotel numerous times over the yrs. - although it is a BW PLUS and has been updated since my last stay .. it's moree the lobby and such that have had face lift, the rooms aren't anything great. There is nice teak type furniture and the beds were comfortable enough... the amenities (soap, lotion, shampoo etc..) leave something to be desired. There is supposed to be BW logoed stuff but they have a few different labels and n ot as much as I believe there should be in a PLUS property... All in all it was OK for 1 night..

    2
« Noisy air conditioning / heating units »

In light of prior complaints about loud a/c unit turning on and off all night, you would think they'd have addressed this. The noise from the busy adjoining roadways will not keep you up all night, the noisy a/c unit WILL. Otherwise, the location to the airport is convenient as is the shuttle. It is a shame they can't give you a quiet nights sleep.

« Best Western in Vancouver »

We stayed for one night only. Good for the money, basic accommodation. Breakfast is ok, service is very good, the room is clean, beds are very comfortable. Hotel is very near the airport, definitely will stay again.

« Good but could be better »

I often stay at Best Westerns because they are reliably clean and comfortable with breakfast. I have come however to tire of their lack of recycling and composting options with their breakfasts. Seriously, everything is in plastic and it just seems so wasteful as compared to how other hotels handle their breakfast.

    3
    « Great Bed »

We stayed overnight for a quick layover. Reception - The receptionist was friendly and helpful. The lobby is dated and is due for an upgrade. Room - Surprisingly, the room is pretty good, although the layout is tight. A super duper comfortable bed and pillows. Full cable TV. Cleanliness - Perfectly clean, they even offer freshly sanitized remote controls for the TV. Breakfast - Continental - more of a carb load centre, but they do get credit for having a make your own waffle station.

« Very brief but comfortable stay... »

Stayed here for about 7 hours total during a very brief overnight layover. Checked in at 9 pm and left at 4 am. Room was adequate. Bed was comfortable. Had a good few hours of sleep before catching shuttle back to airport. Left in early morning before free breakfast but they still had a table set out with coffee, pastries, muffins & fruit which was a nice touch. I do have to compliment the very nice lady (wish I got her name) who was working the front desk on her own when I checked in the evening of Nov. 6th. There was a line up of customers who all arrived at the same time to check in. The front desk agent was nothing but extremely professional, apologetic for the wait time to check in, friendly, upbeat and has EXCELLENT customer service skills. A true credit to this hotel.

    « Disabled Accessible Room - No. 221 »

We booked this room about six months ahead of our intended visit (May 2015) and paid a non-refundable rate of just under £50 through Ebookers. At the time of booking it was receiving consistently favourable reviews; however, just a few months later the reviews were less favourable - it was apparently under new management and was undergoing some renovation. We couldn't cancel though and anyway, it was only somewhere to lay our head after a long haul flight before picking up our RV the next morning. We had no reason to worry though... We took the free shuttle from the airport, which incidentally is not wheelchair accessible. My wife was able to just manage the three steps onto the mini bus and her wheelchair was stored with the luggage at the back. Had she been totally wheelchair bound though we would have had to make other arrangements. Email communication with the hotel a few months beforehand revealed that there was not a disabled accessible room with roll-in shower available for our stay, we would have to make do with a normal room and regular shower stall. However, when we checked in the receptionist, upon seeing my wife in her wheelchair, asked if we would prefer a wheelchair accessible room .....of course! Room 221 overlooks the front of the hotel and is well equipped with all the usual features you would expect in a Best Western hotel. There was plenty of floor space in the bedroom to allow for wheelchair use and the bathroom, with roll-in shower was a very good size. Recent reviews read before our stay led us to expect downbeat and fusty rooms. Not so our room; yes, it may have looked a little dated but it was spotlessly clean and smelled as fresh as a daisy. The queen bed was very comfortable; the only negative with it was that it was a bit on the high side and difficult for my wife to get onto without help. Breakfast was as one would expect in a Best Western hotel, not a banquet but enough to keep you going for a few hours. If we were to fly in to Vancouver again and just needed one night again before moving on, providing we didn't need a down town hotel, we would certainly consider the Abercorn Inn again.

« Great little place, good location! »

Our kids were in the Taekwon-Do Nationals at the Richmond Oval and we stayed here. It was a very quiet little Inn. Very cute, Tudor style, clean, a bit old but very well kept. I usually don't sleep well in hotels and find the beds very uncomfortable but I slept very well and found the room cozy. Price was very reasonable for the location! I would stay here again. Oh and if you like Asian cuisine, the Shanghai restaurant that is attached to is awesome!!!

We had a great stay! Very quiet considering it is very near the airport. The staff are excellent! The breakfast buffet very good and lots of food! Very nice setting for it also. Very clean and terrific Scottish decor/theme. We will stay there again next time.

    « convenient »

this hotel is very convenient for traveling to YVR or to visit Vancouver downtown, with the addition of the nearby skytrain. Always stay here , when flying , as on- site parking is very convenient and shuttle makes it easy to travel to and from airport. The parking rate is very good deal also.

« Good location, great service »

Great location near Vancouver International Airport. Staff were very helpful and friendly, room was good value for the price and location. We stay at Best Western whenever it is available, having travelled extensively in North America and Europe and appreciate the consistent good value and quality.

Stayed October 6-8, 2015. The hotel is hard to find if you're not familiar with the area. It is difficult and sometimes dangerous to exit the parking lot, due to tall hedges and other shrubbery obscuring the views of the street. The hotel has a faux-Tudor exterior with lots of beautiful flowers, and a Scottish-themed interior. It was clean and the beds were fine. The lighting, however, is very dim throughout and needs updating. My parents' room, a king or queen bed-size, was tiny with too much furniture and no room to walk. The showers have very little water pressure. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The complimentary breakfast was fine. There are few restaurants close by; the Shanghai Wonderful restaurant in the same building should be avoided and was not recommended by hotel staff. This is a very busy hotel, with many large groups moving in and out, and I commend hotel staff for their professionalism. I might stay here again if I returned to the area-the rates were reasonable.

    « Pleasently Surprised »

I'd driven past this place 100's of times before staying. Always thought it was a neat looking old building. We stayed mid-week during the off-peak season, so the price was very reasonable. The free parking was a nice bonus, as many places in Richmond do charge for a spot. The interior of the building matched the historic looking exterior. That said, it still felt very clean and comfortable. Walking down the hallways reminded us of the The Shining (not in a bad way). The Inn is a short walk to a skytrain station that gets you downtown in less than 20-minutes. We would be happy to stay here again.

I am impressed with the cleanliness and Orderliness of this place but I guess it needs some updating. Good food and very attentive staff when we used this facility for our meeting. Will definitely go back.

A decent B.W. hotel for a short stay. It is a 10 minute walk from the nearest store or alternative to the adjacent Chinese Restaurant. The' in house' Restaurant is planned and as I understand it this will be completed in months rather than years ,which is good news. Cannot fault neither staff nor general Hotel standards.

Really enjoyed my stay at the hotel. It was within walking distance of quite a few amenities. Very close to sky train and busses. Loved the orange smell as you walked through the hotel. Staff were very friendly and very helpful

    « Hotel Lay Over »

Great hotel, close to airport for lay over following a long flight and late arrival. Staff were very pleasant and helpful and the shuttle bus to and from the airport was greatly appreciated with a schedule that accommodated our needs. Would definitely recommend to other travelers..

    « close to airport »

Mid range cost, only real reasons to stay there. if you have no car you are trapped there. If you do not have a car you are trapped there. Dingy but quaint bar area, not inviting at all. High drink costs and did nothing to interest me in spending any time in it. Breakfast was okay but the pastries were horrible. Good for a one night stay when you have to be close to the airport for a morning flight. Shuttle is good.

Upon arrival I was upgraded to a king suite. The room was clean and the bed and pillows were fantastic. I get the best sleep at the bestwestern, and i have chronic neck issues! Breakfast was hot and ready when i was up at 6:30 in the morning, and they had plenty of seating. It was also only minutes from the airport.

    « Unfriendly Staff »

We arrived early and completely understood that we would not be able to check in, not a problem. Asked if there was anywhere to walk, shopping centre, restaurant, etc. Staff pointed to the Costco across the street (not what we had in mind), so we began to walk, it wasn't until we had walked about 30 minutes that we discovered that we could have walked 5-8 minutes to the skytrain and have been anywhere! So why didn't the front desk staff mention this? The hotel is dated and is in need of an upgrade - not up to BW standards in my opinion! No restaurant in the hotel which is not a problem if you were given directions to something close by. The best thing about this stay is that it is very very close to the airport so good for an early and quick departure. My suggestion - another establishment.

    « Curate's egg of a place »

Handy for Vancouver Airport, which is why we chose it. Cheerful staff, and the room was OK for one night, but the place is an odd mix: some aspects are quite good, but the decor and furnishings might have been chosen by your great-aunt Dora just after WW2. Carpet in our room was distinctly overdue for replacement, but the beds were comfortable and the bathroom worked. By UK standards, it's more tired Travelodge than smart Premier Inn, and not as cheap as maybe it should be.

    « No SERVICE/NO KNOWLEDGE »

At check-in I presented a "1 FREE NIGHT VOUCHER" issued by Best Western for taking part of a certain promotion. The reservation for my stay(as a free night) at the Abercorn Inn, Richmond, BC, was confirmed by Best Western International. The receptionist then told me that it will cost me 20,000 points for the night. Even though I showed her the printed confirmation that it would only cost me 20,000 points if I don't present the "1 FREE NIGHT VOUCHER". She took the voucher and gave me the room keys and I thought everything would be in order. Next morning at check-out the receptionist let me know "everything is in order and we have deducted the 20,000 point from your account". I could not believe it. So I explained him the situation. And -of course- he found my free voucher in my file. Then he tried to reverse the deduction but he couldn't. Even 3 days later the 20,000 point are still deducted from my account. First and last impression of one of the most important parts of a hotel(the reception): and they don't know what they are doing!! Worst case scenario!!! The room was o.k. and when you like airplanes it wouldn't bother you that they start from the YVR airport towards the hotel location(at around 2:30 a.m. several big ones to Asia). But really annoying is the noise created by the waterflow(shower, toilet..) in your room vicinity. When I consider that the room rate for that night was over 200 $ I'd rather stay at a nearby Marriott or the Pacific Gateway Hotel. For a little more money I'd get way more service.

« Great stay and value (went through Priceline) »

I didn't think the exterior looked great but once in the hotel is was very nice. Would suggest to others. Staff was nice, rooms were very nice, location to airport was perfect with a free shuttle. We stayed at another hotel one night, then went on our trip and that hotel was very unimpressive. Not like this one at all.
