« Good value option near PDX »

I needed a hotel for one night near PDX due to my very early departure. Check in (and out the following morning) was quick and easy and my room was quiet and very comfortable (it overlooked the central pool area). I cannot comment on the breakfast as I left too early to partake.

« They are upgrading this hotel & it's loking good! »

The hotel is being renovated. The rooms are being upgraded as well as the whole property. Am looking forward to seeing the new upgrades. We love staying here. It is a convenient location, close to the airport as well as MAX.

    « Stinky smoke smell »

If you allow smoking in your hotel, which should not happen- separate the rooms from each other. Last visit put us in a stinky room ( non smoking) next to a smoking one. Could not get smell out and don't know what's worse the perfume spray to get it out or the smoke! I like Best Western but not this one

    « Pony Soldier Inn »

Overall stay was great. Evening crew at the front desk was great. Rachel found us a better rate, made sure we were settled and made us feel at home. Breakfast was one of the best I have ever had at a hotel/motel. Room was clean, hot tub was warm and clean. Close to the Airport and shopping. Highly recommend.

« Easy access to airport »

We picked this hotel for close access to the airport. There was a bit of traffic noise early in the evening, which we expected, but it ended by 9 p.m. We were comfortable, and enjoyed the restaurant next door very much. Also, it was close to a gas station.

« Duped by the reviews on TA »

Stayed with the family two nights here and can say that we wouldn't stay here again. Arrived late in the evening. Surrounding area seems a tad sketchy. There were several men outside, and inside the hotel that were heavily intoxicated when we were checking in. Walking to our room through the hallway were unpleasant odors, the room didn't look to bad but it was right off the main road, and the carpet felt dirty. Be prepared to show your room key at breakfast as they have issues with random people coming in and eating the food (the people next to our table were told to leave their food and the hotel when they couldn't provide a key, or room number).

« Clean hotel reasonably priced near PDX »

Our room was comfy, clean, well-appointed and quiet. Good, prompt shuttle service to PDX. Desk staff was very helpful. Restaurants nearby. Breakfast included. About 2 miles from PDX but only 5-10 minutes to the airport. We Would stay at the Pony Soldier again.

    « visit to liz »

The people where very helpful, have shuttle to the Portland airport very good.Breakfast was wonderful great variety of food to choose from. Free cookies anytime, some days. Rooms were clean and the bed was good, very friendly people work there.

« Comfortable hotel, near the airport »

Having sampled the other Best Western that looks close to the hotel on the map, this one is definitely my first choice. It is very convenient to the highway (205) but not so close as to be noisy. Elmer's restaurant right next door has great food and this place has a very good breakfast with plenty of options.

    « Can't go wrong »

The location of the property is excellent. We normally have to leave early to catch a ferry from Port Angeles and it's a quick couple of right turns to the highway. We have used the Pony Soldier for a number of years to visit an uncle who used to live very close to the hotel and even though he has moved, we will continue to stay here as the hotel, the staff and the location is wonderful.

    « Would stay again !!! »

Very nice people working the front desk , very help full , would have give it 5 stars but does need some up date , very clean rooms . Would stay again if ever in the area , very easy to get to airport

« LATE NIGHT ARRIVAL,FAST, FRIENDLY, STRESS FREE EXPERIENCE. »

I could not have been happier with my choice. The friendly, animated voice at the other end of my call from the airport, conveyed the type of service I received from the van driver, front desk clerk and everyone I met on staff. A clean comfortable room and bed was all i needed to complete an enjoyable stay.

    3
    « A Reasonable Place to Stay »

I stayed at the Best Western Pony Soldier in for one night, before I was due to fly home. I found it perfectly acceptable, if unexceptional. The lobby was substantially nicer than the rooms, although there was nothing wrong with the rooms ... just a little dated. Two weirdnesses, one good, one bad. The good -- the room actually had a recliner in it. A recliner! I almost never see those in mid-range hotels, and usually not in high end hotels either. The bad -- all the pillows on the bed were not full-size, they were small, square pillows. In pillowcases. I've actually never even seen those small pillows on a hotel bed before. If I needed a hotel near the Portland airport, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. But I wouldn't go out of my way to stay there.

« Start a trip the right way »

Best hotel near the airport without hearing the planes. Most accommodating staff from airport pick up to air port drop off and the in between. Stayed four different times, each time we were welcomed warmly and professionally.

« Old but not Decrepted »

This was my 1st contact with this hotel and when I call in the desk clerk was extremely busy. She explained her problem to me so I would understand why we were being interrupted so many times. But even with all the interruptions: she listen to my story, resolved my problems and booked the reservation. This is important because earlier that day I had been told by another guest at the Best Western where I was staying not to use this facility as the staff were rude and abrupt. I found the opposite to be true! After I turned in my rental car. I called the hotel talked to the Van Drive, told her where I was and that I would be taking their shuttle to the air port and would need to be picked up there. Her response was; "Don't do that, I will be there in 10 minutes to get you". True to her word 10 minutes later there she was. This is important because although I am not severely disabled I am 72 years old and very much appreciated not having to transfer my luggage more than once. But in this case I didn't handle it at all the rental car agent unloaded it for me and took it to the waiting area for me. Then when the hotel van diver got there she loaded it, at the hotel she unloaded it and even brought it to the front desk for me.l.

« A good place for staying not only upon arrival or departure »

A very nice luxury room facing the pool in the patio. a part of the bed you have a comfortable working desk and an armchair for reading. A balcony with chairs and tis is considered a standard room/ Very kind and helpful personal. An excellent breakfast. the hotel has a nice lobby. Very good internet connection. The hotel runs a shuttle to the airport and back. The location is ideal as it is close to main roads. Parking is available. The hotel rooms are maintained very well. Although it is close to main roads you hardly hear the noise. Opposite the hotel a shall gasoline where you can buy food or refuel your rented car before returning it.

    « Pony Soldier Inn »

I always stay at the Pony Soldier Inn when visiting Portland. The hotel is clean, the staff is friendly and it is so convenient to PDX. My family was all heading to Salem for the weekend but met at Pony Soldier and spent the night before going south. We had a nice dinner in Portland and again, this Best Western is easy access to all major thoroughfares in the Portland area.

    4
    « Airport Convenience »

Very convenient and close to PDX. Hotel van for a ride to the airport. Nice restaurant right next door for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Courteous and helpful staff. Large room, and we always love the Best Western microwave and refrigerator in our room.

    4
« One of the nicer BWs I've stayed with »

We started using BW inns because so many were pet friendly although this particular inn isn't. Because they are also individually owned, we found a variation in the quality of our visits. This particular BW is one of the nicer ones although not of new construction it is well maintained with a good first impression. Great staff, food and location with parking and close to PDX which is why we selected it for a stay after an exhausting flight from Europe. Recommended.

    4
    « Comfy and convenient »

Stayed here for a couple of nights after a long flight, as we wanted somewhere that was close to the airport but convenient for the freeways. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, which is all we wanted. Breakfast was a little busy (it was the weekend), and the hotel a touch on the noisy side (it's on a busy main road), but it didn't affect our sleep. There's a nice pool area to sit around, and it's really handy for the metro into downtown Portland. Gas station next door with a great walk in beer cellar, and a few shops including a discount supermarket a block or so away. The decors a bit old fashioned, but the wifi signal was excellent (and free of course). One big positive - we arrived just after noon after a 10 hour flight from Europe, and they checked us in without question. Check in is normally 3pm. That deserves an extra star in itself. Reasonable rates, and a good choice if you're heading away from Portland rather than downtown (where the hotel prices are $$$$$$). Would I stay here again if I flew into PDX? Certainly.

« Reachable from Downtown Portland in 35 minutes »

I wish I could have given this hotel the rating of 'good', in our opinion it isn't 'very good' but 'average' is a bit harsh. We stayed at this hotel for two nights during our holiday in Oregon, one night before picking up our hire car and the second on returning the car to the depot. Sometimes I feel that hotel reviews benefit more from a single visit than two. A return visit offers a comparative between welcomes, registration, bedrooms, breakfasts etc. On our first visit we had spent the day down town and used the red line Max Light getting off at Parkrose/Sumner. On exiting the bus station area turn left when reaching the road, the hotel is a very short walk and on the right hand side, just by the crossroads. Our first registration was processed professionally and quickly then a query about our second booking for later in the week was sorted and we were booked onto the complimentary shuttle bus to the airport for the following morning. Our second registration wasn't as personable but still acceptable. What we found surprising was that two receptionists carried out a personal conversation on both occasions whilst checking us in. This was not the only hotel on our travels where we came across this, it did strike us as discourteous. Our room on both visits was on the second floor overlooking the pool. At the end of two busy days it was relaxing to sit on our balcony (which we hadn't expected) enjoying a beer. Both rooms had a large king size bed, fridge, microwave, tv, free wi-fi, coffee maker etc. The bathroom was functional, shower over the bath, some complimentary products and thick towels. Both rooms were larger than we had anticipated and much more comfortable, but again only one easy chair. A desk chair is not as comfortable to sit in for an evening. In the morning we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast which had several hot options. Our shuttle to the airport was punctual. On hearing that we were actually going to the Budget Car Rental depot (we had intended to take the car hire shuttle from the airport) the driver took us to the Budget depot. This was a great help, saved my wife from helping to carry our luggage and gave us a head start on our journey. On returning our hire car and after a phone call to the hotel we were collected from the car rental company by the courtesy hotel shuttle bus. But, and there is nearly always a but after a second visit. We try, as much as possible, to sleep with a window slightly open, but in this case our room was flooded by the smell of onions being cooked first thing in the morning. We felt that the amount of bedding wasn't sufficient on either stay, there was no blanket available in the room. At 7:55 a.m on our second visit we had housekeeping knocking the door wanting to clean the room. We were not awake, or rather we were after their insistent knocking. As with so many reservations for hotels close to an airport loyalty can sometimes go out of the window when price, additional extras and accessibility are considered. Would we stay at this hotel again, yes, it offered everything we wanted but we would also check out the opposition.

    « All good. »

Staff was always very helpful, gave us lots of information on using mass transit and possible areas of interest in Portland. Room appeared clean and was comfortable. Convenient to PDX and had no problems with the shuttle either to or from the airport. Complimentary breakfast was okay, not exactly gourmet but really, one can't expect that! Overall, not bad, our stay was comfortable and I would stay here again.

« Perfect spot for night before flight »

It's within 3 miles of the airport or just one exit away. Easy on, easy off. I had a rental car but they offer a shuttle to the airport. There's a gas station across the street to fill up before returning the car. There's an Elmer's Restaurant right in the parking lot to pick up dinner or eat there. The room was big and very clean. The front desk staff was friendly and seemed like they were interested in me, which was nice. They offered a wake up call and I used it as a back up to my phone alarm. It was right off the highway. Very much recommend.

« Great breakfast, clean and comfortable room »

We arrived early for check in and the room wasn't ready, so they held our luggage and since we were hungry, they suggested we go next door to Elmer's for lunch and they would try to have a room ready when we returned, and it was. Our room had a comfortable king size bed that overlooked the pool and courtyard area, so it was very nice and not noisy at all. A hot breakfast was included daily and Marisol, who was in charge of preparing all the food, did an excellent job of providing a variety of options. We had omelets with several different fillings, waffles with every topping imaginable from chocolate chips to fruit toppings and everything in between. Plenty of choices from an assortment of breads to pastries, fruit, coffee, juice and hot chocolate,as well. There was suppose to be coffee available around the clock in the lobby and we were told they usually have cookies in the evening, but they never did have cookies and although we heard guests asking for them, they were told that the staff was too busy to make them, even though at times there were three people behind the counter. They did, however, replenish the coffee when I asked about it. The front desk did go out of their way to chart out a route to Astoria for us since mapquest didn't do a very good job of it. Also, with only one computer for the guests to use, there were many times that we had to sit around and wait to be able to use it. Free parking and the added plus of being only minutes away from the airport or a very short walk to the MAX (public transportation system) made this an ideal location to stay while in Portland.

    « Clean, comfortable, convenient »

Originally booked to be convenient for early flight departure - have since discovered that it consistently has excellent amenities & staff. Very comfortable room/bed - quiet and clean. Now it is my first option when looking for a 'hotel near PDX'.

    « Park 'n Fly wonderful »

Called the hotel directly to obtain Park n Fly. Rate was great. Car was happy and safe. Would definitely use them again. Love their shuttle. They have a lending library that accepts books from guests. What a great idea! I donated six Took one. Great selection. Only problem is the number of characters in the review. Two hundred minimum is a bit much.

    « Great Hotel »

Spent our last 2 nights of a 3 week Oregon/Northern California 45th anniversary trip here . Desk staff checking in , on duty evening & daytime & checkout were awesome (Sarah , Dee , Rachel and Amit) . Cleaning staff (Letty) was also excellent .All were intent on making guests stay enjoyable . Hotel was clean and up to date . Room was clean and well appointed . Outdoor pool and hot tub the end of September was a pleasant surprise ! Good breakfast and a 10 minute free shuttle to the airport . Would highly recommend this hotel and return ourselves .

    « Very good except.... »

We stayed here for two nights at the beginning of our stay in Oregon, went on to Newport, and then returned for one night before flying home. The first stay was great. The room was very conveniently located in the hotel. Fairly quiet, although there is some outside traffic noise, but not too bad. When we returned for one night before flying home it was a different story. The room was extremely noisy due to the location of the room being right next to the freeway. We asked for a different room, but I was told they were sold out. I would stay in this hotel again, however, I would request a different location and would hope it could be confirmed before arrival. One more thing I would caution about....we were charged a higher rate than was confirmed on my confirmation. So, make sure you check the rate when you check in. They did change it, but again, when I got the final bill, it was incorrect. Other than that, the hotel had a nice lobby and the rooms were spacious. The breakfast very mediocre at best. But, I would stay at this hotel again.

« Very surprised at how much I liked this! »

The BW Pony Soldier Inn is very large and the rooms are also. It is about a 7-8 minute drive to the airport, which surprised me. I'm in and out of the PDX often and usually stay closer to the airport but this was a super fast location! The rooms are very large. Ask for a room over-looking the pool or at least away from the freeway/street noise. I believe most rooms have a microwave and refrig. There is also a large bathroom. Very impressed.

    1
    « Don't book this one »

We had booked Pony Soldier Inn near the airport 5 months in advance and pre-paid for a room through AMOMA for our arrival at Portland from Australia. The hotel was notified that we would be arriving late. We were told a shuttle would be available by phoning on arrival. However, when contacting the hotel they told us they did not have a room for us and to try their other Pony Soldier Inn which would have been in a town outside public transport. In the end, we had to find and pay for another accommodation at midnight. They did NOT have a booking for us either. We have struggled to get our money refunded as we booked through AMOMA and their call centre in Romania is difficult to deal with due to time differentials. It has taken us more than 2 months to resolve this issue which all started because the hotel did not have our reservation!

    « The Best »

My wife and I travel extensively in the U.S. and abroad. We have never met a more vibrant, helpful, friendly, energetic and competent staff, especially at the Front Desk, which matters the most. Our total experience was a 10.

    5
« Great Location and Friendly Staff! »

After spending time at another hotel close to the Convention Centre, we choose this hotel to be able to take day trips to Columbia Gorge and Mt. Hood. It was the right choice for convenience and proximity to the airport and car rental. It was also quiet and the staff were helpful and friendly. We would definitely recommend for anyone in a similar situation.

    4
« Best Western- Pony Soldier »

Not a bad place to stay, minutes from the airport and downtown Portland. The hotel is clean and recently updated. The staff is friendly and helpful. Compared to the prices of hotels in the downtown area, stay at this Best Western is extremely reasonable.

    5
    « Great Hotel »

This hotel was fantastic! I always enjoy Best Western's anyway, but the breakfast, room, service, everything was easy, convenient, and staff very friendly and eager to please. The room rate was great also. As opportunities present, I will return to this hotel without question.

    5
« GREAT SPOT NEAR AIRPORT »

The room and décor was contemporary and clean. Cleanliness is a big issue for my wife. So I was happy to get her approval when we arrived. The staff was ok, when I asked if we could move from the freeway side of the hotel, they said the hotel was completely booked and we could try in the morning. But, that night I realized that allow we were right next to the freeway, traffic sound was not an issue. And the beds were amazingly comfortable. It is five minutes from the airport, so we were able to get a little more sleep before our early morning flight.

    4
« Good Hotel, Terrible Location »

This hotel offers a nice, full breakfast of waffles, hash brown potatoes, biscuits with gravy upon request, sausage, breakfast tacos, scrambled eggs, muffins, breads, fruits, cereal, juices and coffee, and the hostess does a great job making sure guests get what they need. The rooms are clean, spacious and bathrooms are updated. The courtyard with swimming pool is very nice looking. We stayed two nights, traveled around Oregon and returned to the hotel for the last night of our vacation to be near the airport. The first two nights we were on the freeway side. The last night we were on the opposite side near the railroad track. It was noisy. That's not the reason for the title of this review, though. It's a terrible location because of the traffic. Trying to get into the hotel parking lot in the afternoon required some creativity. Accessing Sandy Blvd from the hotel was equally bad during rush hour. There was a hint of cooking spices in the hallway. The rooms had no odor, always a plus. Oregon has no state sales tax, but they make it up with hotel taxes so be prepared for sticker shock when you get the final total for your room, and if you use a Visa card, be aware that you will be charged a fee for using it at this hotel.

    5
« Great hotel not far from the airport or MAX station, book ahead! »

We enjoyed our stay immensely at this hotel. The only hiccup was getting there when our flight was delayed... we called the front desk and the shuttle was no longer in service so we had to get a cab and have the hotel pay the cab driver. Once we got there, the room was perfect. The bed was comfortable (SO important!!) and the place was clean and had free wifi! We were in an executive room (116) off the pool area and was a little concerned about noise but we never heard a single door slam or kid screaming from the pool. It was quiet as a mouse. The breakfasts were great (for hotel breakfasts) with an employee constantly working the breakfast bar making sure things were stocked and clean. Every morning we walked to the MAX station about 1/4 mile from the hotel and were downtown in 25 min. Book ahead though, the night we got there they had no vacancies!

« The Cookies are Gone and so am I »

If you want cookies in the evening don't go to the Best Western Pony Soldier Inn at the Airport. Booo for the Pony Soldier. You must choose the days they want to make cookies. So much for the customer service. One worker said they don't make them on the weekends. Checkin when well. Staff was friendly. I noticed a maintenance man that was extra friendly. Staff were fast and friendly. The Room was average for the price. The Motel appeared to be on the older side but for the most part has been updated. This motel is 100% smoke free which is great. I found some mold under the soap tray in the shower. Oh Yuck! The pink tile in the shower dates the shower to a long time ago. Breakfast was average. They did have potatoes though.

« Favorite place to stay »

Over the years my wife and I have stayed at almost every chain hotel near the airport and this one has become our go to place to stay. I have stayed at several of the "high priced" places by the airport and have been very disappointed by the service and how poorly maintained they have been. This Best Western is consistently clean and in very good repair. It is located close enough to the airport to be there in 5 minutes, but far enough away that there is no airport noise. The rooms are good sized and up to date and the beds are comfortable. The staff is very friendly, professional and helpful. There is a nice sized pool and a hot tub on the property. The provided breakfast is pretty much the standard free hotel breakfast, but they do a good job at making sure the food is fresh and the hot food is prepared properly. I never have a problem finding something I enjoy to eat. It is conveniently located right off of the freeway so access is great. For the money charged this is a very good value and a great place to stay.

    « a hidden gem »

Spent four nights at this hotel recently. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is clean, breakfast is excellent, and the price with CAA discount is fantastic. Location is very convenient. Despite of proximity to the airport, did not hear any airplane landing and takeoff noise at night, Excellent free wifi. The only negative is some nights, train 'horns' can be heard two t0 three times in the middle of the night.

    « Pleasant Stay »

This is called an airport location, but it really isn't. You'll drive for about 10 minutes to get there. Other hotels/motels are a bit closer to PDX. Stil, this was a really pleasant place to stay. Desk help was friendly and the room was clean and well appointed. The big deal, of course, is that the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was typical Best Western, but there are places around there to eat if you don't want the same food you get at most properties. It's right off of I-205 which is great for getting to the airport as well as other parts of Oregon.

    4
« Perfect place to rest your head »

Hotel is very convenient to airport. Bed and bedding are good quality. There is a good selection at breakfast and when something ruins out it is immediately replaced. Very pleasant staff. If you need a place close to airport recommend staying here. Quiet and clean.

    5
    « Good PDX stay »

We had a nice large room looking out on outdoor pool. Nice weather helped with use of pool. Location is convenient to PDX with good shuttle service. Staff is very helpful with breakfast staff specially attentive and doing preparation on sight for good quality free breakfast. Over all a bargain for a stay of a week.

    4
    « The real review »

located just off the freeway makes easy access to Portland or to Vancouver. The staff was very helpful and professionally run. The room was very clean and quiet. We didn't go into the pool but the pool area is a nice place to just sit and hang out, play cards etc. I would diffenitly stay again.

    5
« Lovely hotel and location was very good. »

Wonderful hotel, great location, rooms very large and nice and clean. Pool area and hot tub very large and comfortable seating and well maintained. Price was very good. Service was great and staff very friendly and helpful. Elmer's Restaurant right next door.

    4
    « One night stay »

The only two things bad to say. As soon as you enter the room I had, jyou are confronted with the frig and coffe pot cabinet. On the wall directly across is what appeared to be a satisfactory plug. Had they placed the cabinet on that wall, you would have an unobstructed entry. The second thing, is that, although the room was well kept, clean, it appeared to be a little bit dated. Even though my room was up front, facing the parking lot and a busy street, what little road noise I heard did not keep me from sleeping.

    5
    « yes, stay here »

The Best Western Pony Soldier Inn is a good value. It is a clean well run hotel, with nice decor, very friendly staff, a nice full breakfast, easy access parking, and a nice courtyard with a pool. Even though it is near the airport and large streets the hotel is quiet and relaxing.

    4
« Nice place close to Portland, Oregon airport »

We stayed here on our last night in Oregon. Wanted a decent hotel close to airport, this was certainly close and nice clean hotel. Continental breakfast was good, staff friendly and helpful. I will stay here my next trip to Portland.

    5
    « Great place »

Came to Portland for a couple of days to visit family. Booked our rooms based on the positive reviews. This Best Western may be the best one I have ever stayed at. Free shuttle from the airport. Just give them a call when you get your bags. The lady that was our driver was a hoot. The motel was clean and quite. Very nice rooms Comfortable beds. All of the staff were very friendly. What else could you ask for in a motel? And the price was reasonable!

    « Pleasantly surprised! »

I needed a room near the airport upon arrival in Portland. I was worried about the quality and location; the room was clean, and comfortable. I was also happy to discover the rooms were quiet on both sides of the facility. One of my rooms was back and away from the main street, the second time I stayed the room was facing the main street. I was concerned that the room facing the busy street might be noisy, but I didn't hear a thing. The staff was always helpful and friendly. I was surprised by the breakfast selections. I was so pleased that I stayed there the night of my return trip. I definitely recommend the Pony Soldier.

Hotel in need of remodel. Everything shows wear and tear. We got locked out of our room and no one could open it until morning: had to sleep in another room with none of our stuff. Not in a good area of town. Too bad because the hotel has potential to be better than it is.

Stayed here after coming up from California- so it was very nice to stay in a nice clean room as I had been driving a lot... staff is very friendly and kind. I have stayed here a couple of times in the past and never disappointed.. always feel refreshed and rejuvenated in the morning... Mahalo!!

We came in after a long haul flight from Australia. Pickup from the terminal was a bit confusing in so much as we weren't sure if we had to call or find a centralised hotel phone bank at the airport. I think it was worse because it was a Sunday of a long weekend and lots of things at the airport were closed, Once worked out, shuttle came quickly and very friendly service. Checkin was easy and friendly. Room was clean and comfortable and serviced daily really well - no complaints. Breakfast was basic but adequate and there's always a few options near by anyway if you wanted something a bit more. We had a hire car we needed to pick up and front reception was kind enough to drive us to the depot. They were also really accomodating with a package we had delivered there. The extra mile that the front desk team went was really the highlight of the stay.

Excellent HOT breakfast. Nice to fly in and be up from the hotel. Only wish I had time for a swim in the pool. Next time. Convenient to the airport. A good way to kick off a retirement trip for 7 weeks on the West Coast with a stop in HI too.

« Nice stay for a reasonable price »

Stayed here after driving down for a Portland weekend because near the airport was so much cheaper than downtown. Was worried it would be loud or worn since that's our experience with most airport hotels. Pleasantly surprised by the clean, comfort and quiet.

« A great place to jet out of here. »

This is an older but well maintained property. If you are driving, it's a little difficult to approach from the south,( bear to the LEFT lane @ Sandy). If you're using the Light Rail, it's the 3rd stop from PDX.( With a short 3blk WALK from the station to the hotel).Coming from the south the final turn is a left in front of on coming traffic , but is eased by a turn lane. First impression is a 2 story lobby walled by glass with several 70's over stuffed sofas and chairs edging a well landscaped pool/spa. Check is delt with a friendly and eager staff to give directions . The room ( single king) has an outstanding bed , a comfortable chair for watching TV ,and with great channel choices. The breakfast provided is as good as any in this price class. HOWEVER, if it's not good enough you have an "Elmer's" litterally next door. ( Think an upper scale Denny's with beer/wine). The only 2 (minor) issues,1) being this close to the airport gas prices are higher, and 2), the TV's are digitally channeled so you can't directly tune them and scrolling takes seemingly too long. But I'll stay HERE again.

« Great location, Good motel. »

We only stayed for one night, since we were flying out early the next day, however the staff was friendly, and the hotel was clean and well cared for. The beds were a bit firm for my taste but very comfortable. I slept like a baby.

    3
    « OK »

Not the most convenient location. The room was a little tired, but clean. The breakfast was terrible - we went elsewhere for breakfast. Service was excellent. It would be nice if the fitness room was open 24 hours and the pool open later.

« Just ok for me »

Staying here for 2 nights but for some reason my allergies flare up once I'm in the room. The room phone didn't work when we first came to our room but hotel staff was responsive and fixed the problem. I'm not sure what's in the room that causes my allergies to be affected. The hotel is filled so there is no way to move to another room. I have one more night to go so I'll see how that goes.

« Great place to stay »

We really enjoyed our short visit here. We stayed overnight before our flight back home. It is close to the airport, and has a free shuttle service. The warm breakfast was a nice start to the day and check in/check out was easy. With our AARP discount I felt it was a pretty good deal compared to other hotels. I would definitely stay here again.

« Rooms facing pool were very nice »

Large beds with wrap around shelf which was very nice for setting phones and other things you want handy. Very quiet despite closeness to I-205. The room (210) had a rocking recliner and hotel has a free shuttle, 9 minute drive from the airport. We needed some pool time and the cold outdoor pool and 1 hot tub were nice, only they don't let you have any food out there so there's not much use for the lounge chairs. Hard to imagine people hanging out at the hotel during the day. Food options and a liquor store are just down the street. Wifi works well. The breakfast came out about 20 minutes later than we were told and was unspectacular but they had early airport shuttles and a 4:30am breakfast so we had all our needs met for a short stay on a layover at PDX. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't need lots of wheelchair accessibility (small elevators) or a restaurant on site for their meals. Not sure how we got the "Pony Soldier Executive" type of room since we booked the lowest non refundable fare online but you should get the same room if you request one overlooking the pool. Very friendly staff, unique architecture and lots of charm.

« great place to stay »

We stayed here so we would be close to the airport the next morning to return the rental car. It was a very nice clean place and the desk help was fantastic. The warm cookies were very good when we came in late afternoon. The only problem we had was the air conditioner was not working properly but since we were all ready for bed we didn't want to let the desk know. The next morning the desk told us we should have anyway. I would highly recommend this place

« Convenient Airport Hotel for Reunion Group »

My extended family of 40 stayed here for a reunion. The hotel gave us a great group discount on room rates and situated our rooms close together. The front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating answering questions. The hotel provided shuttles to and from the airport and was within easy walking distance to public light rail transportation to downtown and Washington Park. It is also located near the intersection of two main interstate highways if you are driving. Our room was large, clean, comfortable beds and linens, and included a small fridge & microwave. The breakfast area was large, had a wide variety of nice menu items, and offered special order biscuits & gravy. Elmer's Restaurant is just across the parking lot so you don't have to go far for a great restaurant option. I appreciated that they have a secure self-laundry - you pick up a key from the front desk and you are the only one using the washer & dryer. Then return the key for the next person to use.

« Good, if short, stay »

Checked in, returned our rent car, got a shuttle back to the hotel and relaxed until the 4 AM shuttle took us to the airport. Everyone was great, too early for breakfast so can't comment. The front desk did have plates and napkins for our pizza delivery, though...and cookies! Very nice stay, no complaints at all.

« For the price I expected more »

While on a business trip to the area, I opted to stay here because the $140 price was a lot better than some of the retail chains downtown asking $200 plus. I did not find the front desk attendant very helpful and felt like just another person to bother his day. That aside, the first room they attempted to check us into upon arrival was left open (perhaps by the maid, however, who had access to the room -- who knows? Without any type of an apology for the inconvenience we were moved to a different room. The room itself was fairly clean and the bed was comfortable enough for a one night stay. The hotel has done just enough to keep repairs current, however, a new mattress and a flat screen TV does not constitute remodeled to me. There were several quirky things about the room, such as the microwave, refrigerator and coffee pot all sharing a double outlet, so the coffeepot had to be taken into the bathroom in order to brew, however, there was a four outlet adapter screwed down to the desk. The TV was crammed into the corner, so good luck watching that from the bed. All in all, it was clean enough, safe enough and comfortable enough, but don't expect too much. One positive is that Elmer's restaurant is next door, gas is across the street and the highway is very close by.

« great place to stay »

we stayed here for one night on our way to Oregon coast. we were not expecting much as the hotel price was very reasonable and reviews were ok. We were in for surprise! The staff was pleasant, the rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable. The breakfast was very good. Lots of selection: hot, cold, fruits, drinks. and they open 6-10. Lots of tables to sit. The hotel lobby was clean and inviting. There was just nothing much to complain about. didn't try the outdoor pool so can't comment. If i had to complain, the room carpet could use a refresh, and the neighborhood doesn't have much for walking around. The hotel itself is great. I would stay here again if I come back to Portland.

« Good Place to Stay »

They had the best front desk person named Sarah. She offered to print off my airline tickets. I was thrilled she offered and even checked on one bag in advance. Only thing we would like to see added it a coffee maker in the room.

« Convenient choice when not in the center »

The facilities are very good and the hotel is conveniently located for MAX if you want to avoid taking the car to get into the center. The location itself is not very scenic and, being near busy roads, it's a bit noisy; it's ok if you get a room facing the pool. Good breakfast.

    « Amazing! »

Loved it! It is small 2 storey hotel, very nice inside! The lobby is beautiful! The front desk staff is amazing, treat you like a family, help with everything, take their time to explain to you everything or suggest on activities in the area. The rooms are ok, not too small, but too big either, comfortable queen sized beds! There is elevator too. The pool and hot tub are outside, surrounded by the hotel, very private, there are lounges and tables to just sit and enjoy. I felt like I'm at the resort! Pretty decent excessive room, there is even sauna for those who likes it. The breakfast is standard hot, not the greatest selection, but there is an awesome Elmer's restaurant with great food and even better prices right next door. There is a big shopping mall within walking distance.

« For Us, This Was A Good Choice »

Our party of two adults flew into Portland intending to stay only one night, then catch another plane back home the next day. We had no intention to rent a car but we also had a little extra time in the evening of our arrival to take in a little of Portland. The Pony Soldier Inn's shuttle service took care of our transportation between the airport and the Inn. The Inn also happens to be a two block walk to a train station that goes right into the heart of downtown. We had an interesting evening exploring a bit of downtown and returned to the Inn for a pleasant night's stay. We had one of their larger rooms and it was plenty spacious. The breakfast was pretty good with both hot and cold items. It was somewhat inconveniently located in the middle of a main hallway, but no big deal. I'd probably stay here again.

« Good Airport Hotel -Best Western Pony Solder Inn »

We were picking someone up at the airport late at night, so we opted to stay again at Pony Soldier Inn. This is a very nice place. The king size bed rooms with sitting area, desk and TV area is nice. They have a microwave and refrigerator in room. We had a 1st floor room with patio that was close to the swimming pool area. We had a comfortable night;s stay. We liked the included breakfast. I also did laundry since its easy to do here. They give you a key to the laundry room when you are using their washer/dryer. Price is $2.00 for wash; $2.00 for dry. The rates at the Pony Soldier are very reasonable and its a very quick drive to the airport. They also have an airport shuttle. Service is very good. We also enjoyed their complementary cookies which were available when we checked in.

    « It was fine. »

Friendly front desk. Rooms small. Bedding was fine. Shuttle service to airport was very good. Good location. Go to Elmers next door to eat. Foyer area was very nice. We left too early for breakfast however they had fruit and rolls available.

« Love this quiet hotel, has unusually good coffee too »

This hotel is situated just far enough from the 205 to make the traffic noise negligible. The beds are very comfortable and I can get checked in early enough to get an afternoon rest, which is a big deal for me since I typically get to be pretty late. I really like the lobby and the breakfast here, and the coffee is not the typical Best Western brand which is often pretty awful. I think it is Seattle's Best but whatever the brand, it has been consistently good. It's a small thing, but something I really appreciate. The only issue I had was the jets on the spa were blowing bubbles instead of jets of water and I had been hoping to massage my sore back...maybe next time.

« So So Place to stay »

Decent hotel, nothing at all special, no unpleasant surprises, breakfast of course was ho-hum with styrofoam food. I would stay here again, convenient to airport. A very vanilla hotel, staff smoking out in front of building was a little down-scale.

« Second time, much better »

Staying at this hotel 2 yrs ago, I wasn't sure if I should book this hotel again. I made contact with the hotel and got a good deal. So glad I did, because our stay was much better than our first stay. Thank you, so glad we came back. Our room on the second floor looked great and the beds were very comfortable. What I love most about this hotel is de outside pool. Only advice I can give the hotel: The man at de frontdesk, please let him get some smile on his face. Seen him 3 days and 3 days with a face like thunder.

« Good Choice for a One Night Stay »

Arrived at the airport near midnight from a cross country flight and called the hotel for the shuttle advertised as having 24 hr. availability. Not so this night. I was told to grab a cab and would be reimbursed for the ride. At check in, handed a $20 bill for the fare and tip. My "Executive Suite" room was large with a handsome king sized bed and a view of the pool with balcony. The bed was very comfy, room seemed spotless. Very nice breakfast in the morning. For the price I would recommend this hotel for travelers.

« Be Treated Like Family »

My son, who is disabled, and I were treated like family. Hotel Staff members were ever so supportive, often beyond the normal call of duty, providing assistance with smiles and humor to relieve stressful situations by repairing my sons walker and helping me locate and retrieve lost luggage from the Portland Airport. What a great place to stay for family reunions! My son and I look forward to our next stay at Pony Soldier Inn.

    « Beautiful Room With a View »

We have stayed at the Portland Pony Soldier Inn 3 or 4 times in the last year or so. It is by far the best deal and nicest hotel around for a reasonable price. The breakfast is the best in the BW chain, and the lobby is comfortable to sit and visit over a coffee. Our most recent stay was in a 2nd floor kitchen suite overlooking the pool and courtyard. The staff were great, and did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable.

    « PONY SOLDIER INN »

Clean rooms, loved the courtyard view. Had to get up at 3:30am to go to catch a flight at the Portland Airport so did not have time to swim, the pool looked inviting though! Would stay there again! Location was perfect and easy to get to the Airport.

« Quick trip to Portland, hotel was in good area. Close to FWY but no FWY noise »

We were in "Executive Suite" 110. I don't know what I was expecting for such a fancy titled suite in a Best Western, but it was OK. Bed was comfortable, linens were clean. Bed had a nice 'shelf' behind the pillows to charge my cell phone. Bathroom was clean and had all the amenities. Shower head was very tall and awesome! Water was soft so go easy on the hair conditioner. The Executive Suite had a view of the pool. Breakfast was good. Biscuits and Gravy on request, omelets, waffles, and other standard Best Western offerings. Dining room was adequate size. A little frustrated that clean towels were not left by housekeeping and they also didn't replace the coffee or accouterments. Watch out for those. All in all, I'd stay again.

    « Great Design »

This is not a new motel, but was well-planned when it was built and no one has messed up the architect's original space. All of the interior corridors are wide, light and bright -- on the off chance that it's cold and rainy in Portland. The rooms are large and nicely furnished -- they feel more upscale than the price indicates. The breakfast room and lobby have plenty of windows with a view of the pool and courtyard. Many of the rooms have courtyard and pool views, too. Rooms have: desks, comfy chairs, irons and boards, microwaves and fridges. There's a decent restaurant right next door. Reasonable rates for being near the airport with easy access to Vancouver and Portland. I'm happy when I find a vacancy here.

« Excellent Room and Quality Professional Staff »

This Hotel is excellent, the rooms are clean and the décor is welcoming and inviting. I have stayed here numerous times and every time the staff is professional, friendly always going above and beyond to make sure that my stay with them is a extremely pleasant and relaxing experience. They are close to the airport and provide the level of quality and convenience that one hopes to find when staying at a hotel.

« Another good Best Western »

Have stayed at numerous best westerns in the USA now and never once have we had a complaint to make, and unsurprisingly this followed suit! The hotel is very closely located to Portland airport and is extremely easy to find once you come off the freeway (next to the slip road on!). The rooms were generously sized and extremely clean as always, and the breakfast was well stocked and varied daily over our 3 night stay. The selection of hot and cold items was plentiful. The staff were welcoming upon arrival and were quick to offer and tips and tricks when visiting Portland! A big positive was the guest laundry, you had to request the key for the room so you were the only one to access the laundry whilst your washing was in, making it extra secure!

    4
« Close to the Airport »

After a delayed flight into Portland, I appreciated being able to take a cab to the Inn and have my fare reimbursed at the front desk. What a service! Welcoming staff, comfortable room, hearty breakfast. When flying in or out of Portland again, I would stay here in a heartbeat.

« Very good breakfast and very comfortable room »

As soon as you enter the lobby, the first thing you see is how nice and luxurious the reception area is. It has very, very high ceiling, very spacious and the furniture looked really comfortable. There is coffee, tea and cold water available for the guest, at anytime. The room we had was big, and the bed was very comfortable. Very clean as well and the towels were thick and soft. The hotel served hot breakfast, sausage, two kinds of egg omelet, fruits, yogurt plus all the other regular breakfast items. The breakfast room is really a dining room for it is huge and lots of seating for the guests.

« Nice, affordable, quiet, and convenient. »

We stayed here two nights on a recent trip to Portland. We were in the area to run two races, Spartan Sprint on Saturday AM, and then the Bridge of the Gods Run on Sunday. This hotel was conveniently located close to the airport with easy access to two major freeways (205 and 84), and served as the perfect home base for our travels. Our flights arrived really early and left really late, so I wrote to the manager ahead of time to see what could be done to accommodate us. When we arrived about 10:00 AM, we couldn't check in, but the front desk held our luggage while we spent the day driving to and exploring Cannon Beach and the coast. The front desk was very nice, promised our room would be ready when we returned, and they didn't disappoint. We got back about 5:00 PM, and check in was a breeze. We had a room with a jetted tub, which was in the bathroom this time (our last stop at a Best Western with the suite room had the tub out in the room), but that was okay - we enjoyed it just the same. The room was very clean, and the bed was great. This is an older building, but it's clean and very well maintained. The rooms surround a nice pool and hot tub that we enjoyed as well. Also has one of the nicer gyms. It's located in a more industrial section of town, so there weren't a lot of restaurants/sites to be seen nearby, but the convenience to the nearby highways (and about a half-mile from the Thrifty car rental) more than made up for that. We ate in some great restaurants in and around Portland, but nothing nearby this hotel. We were up early both mornings to get to our races, but had time to grab a light breakfast on the way out. The free breakfast is typical Best Western fare, all good, and enough variety to please everyone. Was kind of nice that they had oatmeal pre-cooked (rather than the instant stuff). There is a restaurant right next door where you could grab full meals, but we didn't try it out, as most of our meals were while we were out and about. On our last morning, out flight left late, and we'd hoped for a late check out so we could get back to the hotel after our race and clean up before heading to the airport. However, this hotel was completely sold out (they even had to put 'sold out' signs on the front door both nights we were there), so late check outs couldn't be done. When I'd written to the manager earlier, they assured me that I could check out in the early AM, leave our luggage with the front desk, and then use the showers in the gym to change when we got back later. However, when we asked about this at the front desk the night before, they said we'd need to check with the morning crew and work that out with them. We planned to do that, but at 5:45 AM, there was no one at the front desk. We grabbed a bite of breakfast and checked back about 6:15, and still no one at the front desk. So we ended up leaving our keys in the room, taking our luggage, and finding a place to change out of our race clothes on our own. Slight disappointment there, but it all worked out fine in the end, and when I responded to the hotel's survey afterwards, they apologized profusely for this oversight, so it all worked out. This is the ONLY reason I knocked the rating down to 4 stars, as they were otherwise great to respond and our visit was very nice. We'd stay here again if we are in the area!

    « Staff really helpful »

Despite some screw ups with travel booking sites, the staff at Pony Soldier went the distance to straighten things out. We were able to get a room at the same rate despite our reservation somehow being cancelled and didn't have any issue with somehow being double booked on the last night. Friendly staff, very helpful and a good sense of humor to boot!

BW Pony Soldier Inn is a great place to stay while in Portland, OR. It is conveniently located near the Portland Intl. Airport. The lobby was nicely decorated and very welcoming. « Good value »

I have stayed twice in this hotel. In both occasions I was very satisfied.Very nice value for money. Rooms are quiet and clean. Bathrooms have a bathtub, a most for people with kids. Breakfast is very good with ready make waffles, bisquits (on request), two juices, eggs and sausage, in addition to the standard cereal, scones, bread and jam. The excercise room is small, but has the basics, and there is a Sauna for those who are up for it. Good pool and jacuzzi. Location is great, next to I-205 and close to the airport. Finally, close to a couple restaruants (try the vietnamese down the road, simple but very good food).

    « okay Hotel »

This is a good hotel for a short stay. Stayed here for one night so I could take my kids on a college tour at Portland State University. Good value since breakfast is included. Only negative is that rooms are outdated and could use a face lift.

    « A jewel on departing »

What a great way to finish our vacation. This hotel which I found online was just 2 miles from the airport. We had rented our own car but they offered car service. The room was spacious and comfortable. The staff could not have been more helpful or accommodating. They offer a full hot breakfast and best of all, the price was fabulous. (If you have AAA, they give a discount.

« In good shape, clean, very helpful and friendly staff »

The hotel has an appealing interior, is in good shape, and the staff at the reception was very helpful and friendly. I checked in, and wanted to return the rental car to the airport. I asked at the reception if the pick me up at the airport and they wanted me to call once ready. I did and they promptly brought me back to the hotel. Next morning the early airport shuttle worked again super punctual. Rooms are nice and clean. There is a restaurant right next to the hotel. I did not go there, so, no info about that. The neighborhood is not the greatest in general but that didn't matter to me since it is just for the night and the airport the next morning. The hotel has a well groomed pool area as well. Transfer to the airport is under 10 min without traffic and even with high traffic my be 5 min more.

    « Excellent comfortable room »

This hotel is very conveniently located by the Portland Airport the "Grotto" and easy on off highway to Columbia River Gorge activities and Mt. Hood. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel! The breakfast was really nice, good selection. The room was large, very clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable and they gave you plenty of pillows..

    « A pleasent surprise »

Never having stayed in Portland, finding this hotel was a gem. This is an older but well maintained hotel close to airport and downtown. It has been fully renovated with a very welcome large greeting area looking out into the enclosed courtyard/garden pool area. The staff are helpful kind & knowledgeable. The rooms have a comfortable and nicely presented décor with well placed up to date furnishings, Every thing is bright & sparkling clean. Fills up quickly so book ahead.

    « Overall very good »

When I called to confirm a week before check-in, they couldn't find our reservation. I had to call Expedia and they solved the problem that our name was misspelled. Upon check-in, again the reservation couldn't be found because of misspelling. But Rachel, at the desk corrected it and was very nice and patient with the whole thing. We were in two very nice quiet rooms next to each other with the pool right outside. But the last two nights we were there, the spa/hot tub wasn't working. Shower was good, beds average. There was a problem with wifi one of the five nights we were there, but it got corrected quickly. Rachel and Sarah, at the desk, were always friendly and helpful with info and directions. Breakfast was cold/hot cereal, waffles, eggs, potatoes, bacon/sausage, pastries/toast, fruit, juice & coffee/tea. They offered some gluten free options, but I had brought my own, so I never asked what they had. I do wish they would offer some green tea in the future. Our only major complaint was that one day, one of our rooms wasn't cleaned. We had a "do not disturb" sign on the door until almost 9 a.m., but took it down before we went for breakfast. When we came back at 10 a.m., neither rooms were cleaned yet. We mentioned to the cleaning staff that they could do the rooms. We were gone all day and came back in the evening to find only one room cleaned. Front desk apologized and told us it wouldn't happen again and that in the future, to mention cleaning the rooms to the front desk instead of the cleaning staff because of the language problems. Overall, a good place to stay for several days, I just wish there were more restaurants near by, but easy to get back on the freeway and find places to eat and visit.

    « wonderful, friendly service »

We got in on a late flight and were met by the nicest staff. Their free airport shuttle had stopped running but the time our flight arrived but they told us to take a cab and they paid the cab fare when we got there. The hot breakfast had a big selection/variety of food and everything was kept clean. There was a large seating area for the breakfast as well. The hotel was very clean and the location was convenient for offsite car rental pickup. Would definitely stay here again.

« Supplies All Air Traveler Needs »

I especially like the efficiently sized and well-designed walk-in shower in handicap room. Airport driver stated that new room furnishings are being installed. Those in our room were said to be older, but looked great. I like that a computer and printer are available for use by guests. Cannot speak about included breakfast, as we had to leave for airport before service began. Airport shuttle included. I would stay at this hotel again if flying out of Portland.

« Very helpful staff and nice hotel »

In previous years we stayed at the Quality Inn just across the road, but this time I wanted to try the Best Western Pony Soldier Inn. I choose the location because of the reasonable price and the vicinity to the MAX (lightrail) which brings you right into the city center when you don't have a car ( or when you have a car but don't want to pay for parking it downtown). We arrived on a flight and phoned the hotel which sent a shuttle right away. We were rather early, but were able to leave the luggage and return later in the afternoon. The staff was very welcoming and kind and helpful. The reception area looks very inviting and cosy. The room we got was an executive room facing the pool. Quite a large room with kingsize bed, lots of cushions on the bed, a reclining sofa, desk with chair, fridge and microwave. The aircon is a bit loud unfortunately, which is very often the case in older motels/hotels. Breakfast comes with the room and is the typical american hot breakfast.

    « Great location »

If you need a great place to stay near the Airport this is it. Very friendly staff, good breakfast, very nice rooms. Ugg! The Portland traffic ! Use the Maxx tram if possible. A stop is just 1/4 mile from the Hotel.

    « Friendly/airport convenient »

This is the 2nd time we have stayed here. Shuttle service to PDX. Clean, spacious rooms, relatively quiet considering train and airport nearby (courtyard facing rooms quietist). Pretty good Best Western breakfast included. Staff is friendly and helpful -- important for the stressful peri-airport period

    4
    « Clean and convenient »

This is the third time staying here. This place is convenient to the airport, clean and well maintained. The staff is attentive and cheerful. While the free breakfast was worth what we paid, with Elmer's Restaurant a short walk next door, we were not starving. The place is very popular (it was booked solid and had to turn away folks during the 7 days we were there) and I would strongly recommend calling ahead or make reservations in advance.

« Best Western Portland Airport »

Great staff. Nice as can be at check-in and check-out. Great shuttle service to and from the airport. Great room. Adequate breakfast (if you eat animal products, although we were provided with soy milk, which was nice).

    5
    « Excellent Value »

We have stayed there twice now. The staff has always been very friendly, and the breakfast is ready by 4:30 A.M. or so. We like staying here before flying out, the have an airport shuttle, and are efficient.

    « comfortable stay »

When in the Portland area I try to stay at the BW Pony Soldier. I get good quality for the fee, very convenient access to public transit (which is very often the best means of getting about metro Portland) and major roads.

    4
    « Amazing staff!! »

This is really a basic 3 star hotel but the cleanliness and wonderful staff give it that extra something. Breakfast was better than most of the other hotels that we stayed in. It is located conveniently close to the interstate highway system. Traffic in Portland can be horrendous by the way......

    « Better Than Expected »

Easy access to all of Portland. Staff were very professional. The rooms are very clean and neat. I only disliked the fact that the bathroom tiles in the shower are old and dirty. Very easy access to the PDX airport.

    « Nice. »

Reasonable and comfortable. Staff is very helpful. Breakfast was good and the gym was nice. If just passing through, we would stay there again. If you want to really enjoy Portland, stay downtown. Otherwise you will have to take the light rail to downtown. If you go downtown, there are good places to eat, like Kells.

« 50-50 Chance of it Being a Good Experience »

We stayed there the first night we got to Portland and the last night before we flew out of Portland. On both night's reservations we requested a 1st floor room & near the lobby. We flew in at 2:30AM (our flight was delayed, but we called the hotel and told them that we would be there). They were sold out and we got the last room. It was nice, on the ground floor and near the lobby. Four night later, we stayed there again...arrived at 6:30PM and was told that we could NOT have a ground floor. They put us on the top floor and as far from the lobby as possible. The receptionist seemed to have an attitude that what ever you ask for...you are going to get the opposite because I can! Also, my husband didn't have his glasses with him and the reservation was on his credit card and the receptionist would NOT let me enter our car information. He said that I could not have anything to do with the registration card because it was not on my credit card! Our room was MUSTY, the fridge was HOT, our room was HOT and it wasn't near as nice as the first night's room. And they were not sold out when we got there because we heard them telling people that were calling that they had rooms available...probably the good rooms:( I wouldn't stay here again as it is 50-50 whether you will have a good or bad experience. The breakfast was good and there was a good variety of items to choose from.

Great location, awesome staff. Beautiful clean hotel. On our favorites list for sure! It was very clean and spacious. Shuttle to the airport. Bright and comfortable. Everyone smiling and very helpful.

« Another Great Stay at this Best Western »

Because of my previous experiences at this hotel I chose to stay here again. I finished riding the STP (Seattle to Portland) bike ride and the staff's willingness to accommodate my group's needs was fantastic. The pool, hot tub, pet friendly rooms, black out curtains, hot breakfast, airport shuttle, proximity to the Max, comfy beds and awesome staff make the hotel desirable, even though the surrounding area is not.

« Average hotel near the Portland airport »

Had an average stay at this hotel The beds were comfortable. The tv channel selection was fine. Took advantage of the free breakfast one morning. Could have been better. Missed having scrambled eggs. Went to Elmer's restaurant one morning for breakfast which was much better. Overall, this hotel is average. The room I got was upstairs and had some street noise but was able to sleep okay. Just an average Best Western hotel.

We felt like whatever we asked for...we were going to get the opposite. THE ROOM was musty smelling, the fridge was HOT and the room seemed like one that you would get at a CHEAP motel. Our 2 stays there---were so different!!! I would NOT recommend this hotel as you have a 50-50 chance of it being a good experience. The BREAKFAST was good and had plenty of variety.

« Quiet Jewell Near the airport! »

We waited until the week before our friends wedding (stupid right?) & we're having a terrible time finding a room at a reasonable rate when we called the Pony Soldier. They had one room left, & we took it. I assumed that it being last second, & last available that it would be pretty scary. In fact it turned out to be not only clean & quiet, but quite spacious for our price! The continental breakfast includes freaky scrambled eggs & sausage, & the staff was really courteous & friendly. I totally recommend giving this place a try. You'll be impressed!!!!

    « Service with a smile »

After a two week road trip around Oregon and Washington we chose this hotel to rest up for a couple of days before flying home. We were flying out of the Portland airport. What a great decision. The hotel itself was very appealing. The lobby was inviting with a pool in sight. The pool, however, was closed for two days for repairs. We found our room clean and comfortable. The only complaint I had was that the water in the tub didn't drain very fast which left me standing in water while I showered. The people at the front desk were wonderful. They went out of their way to accommodate us in every way. They gave recommendations for food nearby. They also printed out directions for use when we wanted to visit nearby attractions. They even called and printed out our boarding passes for the plane ride home. Best Western Pony Soldier is a wonderful place to stay.

« Great Place to Stay »

We stayed here 5 days total. We were very pleased. It was quiet even though it is located close to the airport. It was clean and very nicely decorated. The staff was super helpful. If you needed directions, recommendations, or anything they were ready to help. The breakfast area was large enough and the breakfast selection good.

« Best Western- Pony Soldier »

Pretty much my go to place to stay when I travel to Portland. The rates are reasonable compared to downtown Portland, the drive into downtown is only 10 min. and the amenities are typical for a Best Western and do not dissapoint. The breakfast in the morning has a good selection and there are a number of places you can eat or shop in the general area.

    3
« Free Parking! Close to a MAX line. »

This is a basic hotel but the parking was free and it was about a 10 min. walk to the MAX line so convenient to get to downtown Portland. The price was reasonable. There was a pool, hot tub, guest laundry and a small business center. Breakfast bar was great with hot eggs and other items. The best part of our stay was the staff! They were amazingly helpful and responsive to needs that arose. Laundrymat was great to use as we stayed several days.

    5
    « friendly and welcoming! »

They made me feel very welcome and were extremely helpful and friendly! Any time I had a question they were they to help out. I felt welcome and safe. The breakfast was nice, my favorite was the waffle maker. A very comfortable three nights.

    « Quite a differencs »

We arrived the 21st of June for a three night stay. Everything was "okay" but not as great as when we stayed two years ago. The room was large and comfy, even had a recliner. Breakfast was average but in a small crowded area. The hot tub was out of order and all soda vending machines were empty. The location is great, close to the airport ( they have a free shuttle) and a short walk to the light rail which we used often. We returned on the 26th for one night due to the proximity to the airport. This stay was outstanding. Sarah was at the front desk and made everything perfect. Our room wasn't ready but she made sure it got done and after lunch it was ready. I mentioned the lack luster breakfast (I don't eat meat and even the eggs had ham in them) she said they would cook up some eggs for me if I asked. I didn't even have to ask, when I questioned what was I the eggs they offered to make me some scrambled eggs, I didn't have to ask ( I wish I knew this with the stay earlier in the week, no one offered either) Hot tub still broken. There is a nice restaurant next door with a lounge (Elmers) This will continue to be our hotel of choir when we visit Portland. Thank you Sarah.

« Great spot for early morning flights »

The hotel was very close to the airport. We had a flight in the early morning after the shuttle had stopped running. They arranged a taxi in the early morning hours and insisted on paying for it. That is going above and beyond and we will certainly stay at the Best Western Pony the next time we are in Portland.

« Friendly people on staff »

We only stayed one night but it was the friendliest place we were at during our 12 night vacation in Oregon. Room was standard, clean, and equipped well. Recommend this hotel if you are looking for something near airport, of good value and just need a "friendly face"! Great start to our trip!

    2
« The staff will lie on the phone to get you to stay!! »

Pool was freezing when we were told over the phone they kept it at 83-84. Hot tub was broken when we were told it would be running the day we arrived, only to find out the parts weren't coming in for two weeks. We love pools and hottubs, we only stay at Hotels with them. Very disappointed to not have either working for our stay.

« Excellent stay at Pony Soldier Inn »

My husband and I spent 2 nights at this hotel and used it as a base to visit downtown Portland. The hotel staff were super friendly. Special mention to Sarah who collected us from the airport and Amy who took us back. Smooth check in and nice Executive room. The Max train is 7 mins walk from the hotel and is very easy to use. We bought the day ticket for just $5 and used it to get around, no car needed for the downtown area. Breakfast was good and plenty of it. When we return, we will de finely consider this hotel again. Portland is a great city for a weekend break!

« very comfortable but wish jacuzzi had been open »

Very close to trimet Parkrose which I used for my food truck visits to downtown Nearby restaurants: Elmers - went for dinner first night. Quite good but then went back one afternoon as had an urge for a sundae - no desserts except cheesecake - Bill's - went for a drink. Local bar bit of a dive - not recommended. Room - pillows a bit hard first night then got used to it. Sleep quality very good. TV needed to be fixed but was just a switch. Microwave did not work but got staff to nuke my dinner. Staff - Very friendly more so the afternoon/evening staff especially Dee and Theo Breakfast - hot and cold stuff including real oatmeal. Limited fruit. could use a bowl of cut up fruit maybe some muesli cereal Grounds - jacuzzi being painted tourist season not sure why they did not do that before. Was quite disappointed. Pool ok one day quite dirty very cold Overall I would recommend

« Clean, comfortable, friendly and great experience »

I stayed at the Pony Soldier Inn during a family visit and had a positive experience in all aspects. The room was excellent, breakfast better than any I have had recently at other hotels, and this was a good location for getting places easily in the Portland area. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Portland.

« Good Basic Place to stay »

This is a good place to stay at in Portland. Close to the freeway and local shopping areas. Hotel is clean and well managed. A couple of great restaurants right next door. There price doesn't go way up like other hotels when there's a event in town.

    5
« Great place to stay »

Outstanding service, great professional and friendly staff. Loved the lobby. Very clean and comfortable. Quick easy access to the airport. Very, very pleasant stay. Highly recommend for anyone coming into the Portland area. Only 30 minutes to the heart of the city.

« Best Western Pony Soldier Portland »

We have stayed here before and are very satisfied. The staff is courteous and responsive. The property is clean and the room is nicely appointed. As I said, we have stayed here before and have never had any problems. The cost is fine. The breakfast is fine. We plan to stay here again.

    « PDX Hotel Ambassador »

The hotel was beyond acceptable, it was great for me. The room was clean, the facility is presentable and quiet. For all of you who just arrives from the airport late at night or ready to leave the next morning from PDX, this may be your first choice to stay with the average cost, not too expensive ? actually reasonable price for what you pay. They provide 24/7 shuttle service which is quite convenient. Breakfast selection was good and acceptable compared to the hotels nearby?I tried to book this hotel on the way back but it was full so I had to stay at an adjacent hotel..not quite the same at all. Sometimes when we travel, we need a decent fitness room, this hotel provides mini-gym for you (all-in-one exercise equipment, treadmill, weight lifting equipment, etc) and the towels to wipe your hard work-sweat during and after your workout and water cooler for your refreshment. I notice that at the time of our stay, there are many rooms that are being renovated. Hopefully, they will finish soon so that more guests may take advantage to stay here and enjoy your peaceful, yet good customer service at this location. Forgot your necessities, don't worry ? just visit the front desk and ask for shaving cream, razor, tooth brush, tooth paste and/or sewing kits?the staff is very nice and customer oriented. In a hurry, ask for the grab and go breakfast.

    « Nice 1 night stay »

Stayed here 1 night before catching our flight home. Room was very nice, clean, quiet and comfortable. We returned our rental car that night so we didn't have to deal with it in the morning. Shuttle driver came to pick us up very quickly! He shared other scenic places in Oregon and Washington that we might want to check out next time around. Shuttle driver the next morning was also great - quick, efficient and friendly. Would definitely stay here again if we are in the area.

    « Exceptionally clean »

Located on the outskirts of Portland, near the airport, it was very reasonably priced. We were impressed with how well maintained and clean it is. The staff was welcoming. Our room was very quiet. The free WiFi, was about the best we've experienced in a hotel. The free breakfast had a great selection, was fresh and replenished frequently. We will be staying here again at the end of trip and are really pleased with our selection.

« BW Portland near everything »

Pretty clear for driving and accessing places from restaurants, points of interest, and observing nature. We found it very easily during our Northwest tour and spent a quiet evening. Nice family restaurant right next door that serves just about everything. Breakfast always good at Best Western locations. Easy access to Columbia River Gorge roadway including Vista House with its wonderful views.

« This Hotel Cares About Their Customers »

This was our third stay at this hotel, and we highly recommend it. What impressed us was how welcoming and efficient the staff was when we checked in. Cookies even awaited us :) The last time we stayed at this location, we had a pet room, and there were a couple of issues - one was that, for whatever reason, there were ants in the restroom. The other issue was a handle on the chair in the room looked like an animal had chewed it. We filled out the Best Western survey and mentioned these two items. This time we stayed in the same room, and BOTH issues had been resolved. We will definitely be back, because we were impressed that they listened to us as customers. It is a very nice hotel with a beautiful lobby, and the breakfast is good, as well.

« why we were there »

It was our 59 wedding anniversary and it was enjoyed. The motel was near the literail and was used to go downtown and a great resterant. The staff were very attentive and kind. The motel was between a major highway, a busy street and a major train track and we did not hear any of it.

« Lovely stay at Best Western Pony Soldier Inn »

I went on a business trip to Portland, Oregon. I had never been to Portland so I was surprised at how well located this hotel is. They had clean and comfortable rooms, a nice swimming pool and a hot tub. They put me on the first floor as I requested. They couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Any questions we had they helped us immediately. I will stay at this hotel again and I highly recommend it.

  • 5
    « Lovely Hotel »

This is a hotel where we have stayed in the past. We were surprised and pleased to be upgraded to a suite at no extra charge. (Perhaps because this trip saw us stay in multiple BW hotels before Portland.) The room was very spacious and comfortable. The breakfasts were especially good and the grounds around the outdoor pool especially pleasing. We would definitely highly recommend this hotel!!

    5
« Good place for business trip »

We were here for 2 nights. Business purpose. The staff is absolutely friendly. They are helpful. The shuttle service is good. The location is very near to the airport so you don't need to enter into city and go through traffic if you have work outside the city. The rooms are clean, spacious and the interior is nice. I would rate it 9/10

    4
« A good place for easy access to the airport »

This was a good location for an early airport departure. The rooms were pretty standard, nothing fancy but very adequate for our needs. They were clean, quiet, and had good beds. The staff were helpful and friendly.

    5
« Always Very Satisfied With This Place »

I have come to this particular hotel several times over the past 13 years and have always been very satisfied with the service and the amenities with this hotel. I fully recommend it to anyone needing to stay close to the airport. They also have a Pony Soldier Inn in Gresham that is nice. Stayed there a couple of times and it was good as well.

    5
    « Genuinely helpful staff »

Standard nice hotel in terms of amenities, but the staff was truly polite, courteous, and generous in their desire to make the trip enjoyable. We were unfamiliar with the Portland, Oregon, area and they helped us find good restaurants. They also taught us how to find and use the region's light rail system, which is better than the one in Washington, D.C.

    3
    « Standard Airport Hotel »

I came in after midnight on a delayed flight from PDX. I was greeted by a grumpy night manager who warned me not tosmoke in the room. There would be a $250 fine. Breakfast is terrible; greasy sausage, inedible omelettes, toast, waffles, etc. Might as well put out candy bars. Both keys failed to open the door, so they had to reprogram them. The day manager was cheerful and the handyman was helpful and friendly.

    5
« Comfortable room, helpful staff »

This was a clean, comfortable room. We had to check out in time to catch our flight before the breakfast opened so we missed out. We loved burning off energy in the fitness room and relaxing in the sauna. We chose this hotel for its proximity to the airport. It was easy to get where we needed to go in time for our flight.

    3
« It is just a Best Western, nothing to write home about »

Staff was very friendly, but everyone on in Sandy, OR is. Good location. Room was comfortable but sparsely appointed and tired. Stayed 3 nights and only received maid service for 2. You will have to ask for additional towels and probably more pillows and bedding.

    5
« I'll echo all the good comments »

I stayed at this hotel for one night last week. I moved from another BW hotel in southwest Portland so that I could make a quick morning get away without having to go through rush hour traffic. I stayed at Best Western hotels all through my vacation and was pretty much pleased with all of them. This hotel was no exception. Good service, nice room, good amenities (refrig., microwave, nice shampoos and soaps, a comfortable easy chair), breakfast included. I had a king bed, pool facing room at a terrific rate. No complaints here.

    4
    « Great service/older hotel »

We often stay here when we fly in or out of PDX. The shuttle service was prompt and the desk staff was very friendly and professional. The hotel is not one of the newer ones but it has been well maintained. We missed the breakfast because we flew out too early but they had a little something to tide us over. Although there is no restaurant in the hotel there is one right next door.

  • 2
    « Bad customer service »

There was a situation with our flight and the check-out times so I called the inn weeks early to talk to someone and we had worked out a deal. They promised that when we checked in that what we had planned would definitely be okay. When we came to check in and to remind them about what we had talked about on the phone, the person at the front desk- Amit, said that they could not do that. It was very frustrating because the other employee at the desk was willing to work out a deal with us and talk to the manager, but Amit was set on not working with us at all. He was rude and didn't want to accommodate.

    5
    « Great Hotel »

Best Western Pony Soldier is extremely well run and well maintained. The breakfast included GF rice chex and a good selection of fresh fruit. The only drawback for me was the location. It is a good 20 minutes or more to downtown. If you want a place near the airport, it is fine. Best Western has their own shuttle bus.

    5
    « Enjoyed this inn! »

Nice, quiet room, welcoming attractive lobby area & dining section overlooking outdoor pool. Very friendly, helpful staff, comfortable furniture. Good selection of foods for breakfast. Had little free time, so did not get to use the amenities.

    5
« Pony Soldier delivers again! »

Great property. Good location close to TriMet (short walk) and the 205 freeway. Breakfast food is fresh and with enough variety that you don't get bored on morning 2 or 3... Staff were helpful with local recommendations. Close to airport (5 to 10 minutes) but far enough away so that the property is quiet (and not over-priced).

    4
« Pony up in Oregon »

This hotel is convenient to the airport however you will need some form of transportation if you want to go out. The hotel is pleasing and the room is a typical economy hotel room with the a/c under the window, etc. The immediate neighborhood does not offer many options for dining, etc. By all means do not take the front desks recommendation to eat at Bill's Steak house. The place leaves much to be desired and the food was mediocre. If playing Lottery machines and watching ?colorful? characters at the bar, then this is the place for you!

    4
    « Nice overnight stay »

We stayed here overnight after arriving from the airport. It wasn't hard to get to and the staff was very friendly upon arrival and departure. The rooms were clean and cozy but the hotel had an overall stale smell. Nothing too terrible. Breakfast was good and there was quite a selection.

    4
    « Good Choice »

Coming from the east coast, I usually need an overnight before starting on my west coast travels. When going through Portland, this hotel is a good choice. Its prices are competitive and has a complimentary shuttle to airport. Here's the good: clean, modern and nicely appointed room; room is spacious and had a comfy recliner...not sure if all rooms have this; flat panel tv that swivels with nice channel choices; ample outlets that are accessible; good bed; hot breakfast; good shower pressure. The only con I have are that it's location is not within walking distance to Cascades Station shopping and eats. There is a restaurant next door, but that's really you're only walking choice. If I were staying multiple days, this might be a factor for me. One last thing...upon arrival there was a strong chemical odor in the room. Fortunately, there's a sliding door to a small balcony that can be opened to air out.

    4
    « Change in ownership »

The motel is great, I have been staying at the Pony Soldier for over 25 years, the rooms are comfortable, affordable and clean. The staff over the years have been very accomodating and nice. On my most recent trip to the coast we stayed here and found things a little different than in the past. We noticed the Diamond parking spots had been eliminated and when we checked in we didn't receive the usual perks associated with the Diamond priveleges. No acknowlegement, no treats, no upgrades, no extra points. Not sure what that was about but will give them another chance in the future based on the past years experiences.

    5
    « Nice Place »

Nice place to stay enjoyed the room and the hotel staff were very friendly. Breakfast was good. Hot cookies on arrival were a nice treat. The Best Western is a good example of the quality of this chain of hotels.

    4
« close enough to airport but not to downtown because of heavy road traffic »

They call this an airport hotel...well, yes, they have a free shuttle to the airport but if it is rush hour you better believe you're gonna wait because of unreal Portland traffic during afternoon rush hours. The room was ok. The layout of the room was not: The room layout was not typical of any hotel room I've been in. One could not even move either of two comfortable chairs into position to place a laptop on the desktop and use the chairs...because the bed wouldn't move and the desk wouldn't move. Weird and not appreciated at all for someone who uses the computer every night on the road. So, if you gotta use the desk in the room, ask the desk when you checkin if the chairs in the room will fit under the desk....other than this problem..no other probs.

« Our choice for North Portland »

We have three different hotels in the general Portland are that we stay in. Which one we use depends on what part of town we're planning to spend the majority of our visit in. When is going to be North Portland, this is the place we go. The staff here has always been polite, helpful, and quite professional. The rooms are always clean, and nothing is ever broken. The breakfast is a couple of notches above what you normally see theses days. A very good hotel, and as I said, the one we always use in this part of town.

    4
    « Our go-to place in Portland »

This hotel is clean, the staff great, and we loved how convenient the location was to just about everything. This will be our go-to place to stay from now on. Only downside was we were not informed that pool is closed 'til June and it was in the mid 80's, very hot days during our stay in May.

    5
    « Ready to travel »

Wanted to stay close to the Portland Airport to get a good night's sleep and found this hotel perfect for what we needed. Comfortable beds and hot shower. We enjoyed the morning breakfast with fresh fruit, eggs and waffles, before leaving to catch our flight.

    5
    « Always Great! »

I stay here frequently and I've never been disapointed with the property, staff or value. It's very close to the freeway but sill very quiet. The breakfast is pretty typical for this category of hotel(adequate but not special). Everything else is better than you can expect. Most restaurants in the immediate area are independent or local chains, So, people from outside the region won't find anything familiar but may find some nice surprises. There is every sort of option within a mile.

    5
    « Great property »

Have stayed numerous times here and always had a great experience and the property has become our "go to" hotel when visiting family in Portland, Ore. Great service, food, location and rooms make this property the best.

    5
« Great place to park n fly »

The Pony Soldier Best Western was very clean, comfortable and friendly helpful staff. We parked and flew out early AM and since it was prior to the time their shuttle runs they provided and paid for a cab to shuttle us to PDX and the same on our return flight. Great rooms and conveniently located to PDX. Also, felt secure leaving my car here while on my trip.

My husband has declared that if we go back to Portland again, we WILL be staying there.........and no where else!!

    « Convenient »

This hotel is located not far from the airport and the rates are reasonable. Check in was quick, and the staff was always friendly and helpful. The room was clean and had a small fridge and a microwave. Breakfast wasn't fancy, but did include hot eggs, juice, oatmeal and there was also a waffle maker. There was tea and coffee and cold cereal too. Nothing fancy, but a good value and a comfortable place to stay.

    « time in portland. »

It was in a high traffic area but once we figured out what lane we needed to be in to get in we stayed parked to time to leave. I chose because it was close to light rail. We used that to get around.. The place was very nice and close to a good family restaurant for meals. staffs was great. breakfast meet our needs.

    « short notice »

The exterior was clean and in very good repair, security systems were functional. The desk staff were helpful and professional. Room was large and well designed layout, adequate furniture and in good and better condition. Breakfast was very good hot fresh and well stocked, attendants were avail and kept tables bussed and clean,(bussed for those to lazy to buss their own). I have stayed here several times without problems and always a very good stay.

    « Top location »

The Hotel is close to the airport and also offers free shuttle to the airport, that was perfect. Also is the Tri Met Rail System in walking distance. The Rail System brings you right into the heart of Portland. Easy to use. Rooms are clean and comfortable.

    « a good layover »

I used it as a layover between a Portland meeting and an east of the mountains excursion. Reasonably priced for being close to the airport. The breakfast was substantial, the room was very clean, the plugins were adequate, and the sleeping was quiet.Enough outside entrances to make it unnecessary to go through the lobby if you went out during the stay. Close to Kennedy School. Friendly staff. A very faint musty odor in the room. Very faint, but it was there. I would stay again.

« Convenient to PDX airport »

This hotel is very convenient for business in Portland, with free transportation to and from the airport, and breakfast in the morning. The front desk staff was helpful in calling a taxi for me, also, when I needed a ride to my meeting.

    3
    « Nice location »

After checking in I took our luggage to our room and immediately saw a baby's sleeper sticking out from under the edge of the bed. After turning it into the office and upon returning to the room I noticed on the desk next to the window several tiny black ants so I squooshed them with their hotel note pad. I searched for more but found none. However with our two night stay two more times a saw and squooshed several more. We had our dog with us and while walking her at the parking lot edge of the hotel, near the fence area that backs up against a trailer park, we saw drug paraphernalia, glass pipes and needles. The breakfast was excellent and the woman at the front desk were very very nice!

    3
« Nice On The Outside »

Nice enough hotel, but the amenities need a lot of work. Internet resets regularly, making some work impossible. Food is poor (unless you're 12). Parking is poor, you need to park in the movie theater lot next door and drag your luggage through the bushes. Fairly clean, quiet, across the street from Starbuck's.

« Great place to stay near the PDX Airport »

This very convenient and lovely hotel near the airport and other desirable sites, very good value for the money and terrific, friendly staff. Extremely comfortable bed and quiet...we will be back...We did not try the restaurant, but will do so in the future

    « Nice place »

Great value ten minutes from Portland. Traffic was a bit much on thursday, but great the rest of the time. A great location - under 30 minutes to hiking, getting into Washington State and dining. Room and beds very comfortable!

« Great for an airport stay »

I've stayed here before. I've always been impressed with their product. rooms are very comfortable, with a free hot breakfast that is decent. Great restaurant located just next door and a gas station across the street, for filling up before returning the rental car. I use this property every time I fly in and out of PDX.

« Last minute overnight stay »

Nice hotel on edge of town. Very clean and nice spacious room. The breakfast was billed as a continental breakfast, but it was a full breakfast, very tasty. Hotel has a pool and an exercise room. We did not use either one though. Lobby very nice too.

    5
    « great service »

When we come to Portland to stay we always stay at the Pony Soldier Inn -airport. It is clean quiet and the staff is friendly and helpful. It is also close to shopping. We meet friends there from Idaho when they come into Portland

    « Wonderful Stay »

We enjoyed the friendly staff and clean room. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious with a recliner. I would recommend this hotel. Best of all is the breakfast...waffles are always our favourite.

« Best Western Pony Soldier-Airport, Portland Or. »

The Staff are very professional, yet personable. Very competent doing their jobs. Sarah at the front desk is very helpful and friendly and so eager to help. Our Rm was very clean...kudos to the Housekeepers! We will definitely stay again and already have recommended this Best Western Pony Soldier Inn-Airport in Portland, Or. This was our third stay here!

« Great start to our honeymoon! »

Had a great stay here. Trip started rough; "Dee" was rather rude at checkin and we were placed in a loud room facing the on ramp. Sarah and Amit were quick to fix the situation after the first restless night and put us in a quiet, beautiful interior room facing the courtyard.

    5
    « I stay here often »

The breakfast is better than most other hotels. Punctual and friendly shuttle for PDX airport. The staff is very helpful. Not a lot of amenities, but very useful if flying into PDX. Internet always works.

    4
    « Quality Hotel »

Everything required for a pleasant stay was available. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Internet worked a treat. Breakfast was quite sufficient, enough to eat and drink. Excellent transportation to and from the airport.

    4
    « Good airport option »

This is an older property that is well kept. Dinning option next door is convenient. Very near I-205 with good access. Adequate parking, friendly lobby. Breakfast looked well done - though I didn't partake.

    5
    « Great Staff »

The staff was very welcoming from the time I walked through the door. They always greet you when they see you. They go out of their way to help you get what you need if they can. Sarah did a wonderful job with this in getting me a great taxi service number and made sure I knew the address I was coming back to after my concert by stapling a hotel business card to the taxi's number, because I have never been in Portland by myself before. I love their beds! They are so comfortable! Breakfast was awesome and the lady who does it, does a wonderful job keeping it clean and stocked.

    4
    « Good choice »

With all the Hotel choices out there, this was a good choice. The room was clean and the shower was good and hot. he location to the Airport is excellent which helped prevent the usual last minute stress.

    5
« Tops in quality, service, access »

In all ways, this hotel excelled. Quality bed, clean, well-appointed room, good breakfast, shuttle to the airport. The staff was super helpful and pleasant. We had to leave for the airport by 4 a.m., so the desk person created breakfast bags for my wife and I the night before our departure. We were ushered into the area where food was stored and allowed to select what we wanted for the next morning.

    2
« Pet friendly rooms are third class and fee charged »

Pet room is in semi-basement and overlooks very poor quality trailer park (near homeless). Security of room felt unsafe (especially if traveling alone). Hotel charged pet fee even though none was indicated on web page or in reservation cost. Front desk manager indicated they were "not responsible for the web page which is run by a different company or the pet fee which is a corporate policy and therefore nothing could be done". Odor in room and felt second or third class as compared to other rooms. Would not stay here again.

« Great customer service, easy access to city »

I came to Portland to see my friend who goes to Lewis and Clark, and seeing the other great reviews this hotel had, I thought I'd give it a go. I could not have been more please with my stay. I arrived too early to check in, but they held my bags for me at the front desk until I returned later in the evening and were warm and hospitable. The location is great too, because it is just a short walk to the MAX red line, which leads to the airport one way and the city center the other way. I ended up with an executive, poolside suite, and although the pool was closed, the jacuzzi was not and everything was very clean. Great breakfast, clean, safe, and convenient. When I return, I plan on staying here again.

    5
« Best Western Pony Soldier »

Very clean and well appointed. Very helpful staff, great included breakfast, courtesy airport shuttle or will pay for taxi to airport. All in all a great experience and will stay there again when visiting my daughter in Portland.

    « Great customer service »

I stayed here for two nights. When I checked into the room for the first night, I quickly became aware that it was going to be noisy since there was an on-ramp not far from the room window. I went and asked the desk if I could be moved to another room. After a few minutes they said they had another room and moved me. It turned out that it was actually an upgraded room, going from a queen to a king bed, at no additional cost. The new room was very quiet. I was routinely graciously greeted by the staff when I walked by the front desk. The rooms were typical Best Western rooms that will probably start looking a little worn in 5 years or so. The exercise room was basic, although I couldn't figure out how to change intensity levels on the spin machine. The breakfast is pretty basic, with mass produced scrambled eggs "patties", cold cereal, etc. all served with paper plates and bowels and plastic utensils. Also, there are no decent places to eat within walking distance that I could find.

    4
« A great location with easy access to public transportation. »

The inn has large comfortable rooms and the accommodations met all of our expectations. The location is two blocks from the MAX and bus depot. There is shuttle to town and to the airport for a fee. The trip to downtown takes approximately 38 minutes.

« our stay best western »

Great place to stay. Safe, clean, great breakfast, and the best staff. We always feel so welcomed here. We love to eat dinner across the street at Elmers as well. The beds are super comfy and the the beds are super comfy. We love everything about this hotel!

    « Pony Soldier »

Location is very convenient to everything; the staff was congenial and anxious to help. The breakfast area was very comfortable and relaxing, the food presentation was pleasant and the food itself was good enough.

    5
« Stayed night before early am flight. »

We've stayed at this hotel several times before an early morning flight back to NY. Very convenient to airport and provides prompt shuttle service to the airport not matter how early in the am. This trip we needed a shuttle to airport at 4:00 am. We were surprised to find some breakfast items available to us at 3:45 am before we left.

    3
    « Good Hotel »

Good hotel near the airport. Nothing special but it was clean, bed was good, location was convenient, breakfast was nothing to brag about, room rate was very reasonable, and the staff was very friendly.

    4
    « Best Western »

You will receive a warm welcome and a comfortable price. The location is close to the airport and Downtown Portland. Heavy traffic at prime time to get in and out of the facility. Decent breakfast included. The pool and fitness were out of service so ask before booking.

« Portland BW on Sandy Blvd »

Hotel and rooms are clean, quiet and comfortable. They offer free fast wi-fi. Served up a great breakfast. Highway access to any direction is great. They offer great AAA rates. Will book here next time in Portland, Oregon.

« Great stay around Portland Airport »

Good location, just 5 mins drive to Portland Airport. Tri-met Tram station is about 8 mins walk if you're planning to go downtown w/o driving. Several restaurants & gas stations nearby so you could easily feed yourself and get some groceries. The room itself is typical best western style: Well equipped and just adaquate. Free breakfast, wifi & parking available. Overall a very cost effective choice around PDX.

    4
« I love the Pony Soldier Inn »

The location is wonderful for getting anywhere in Portland, and it's one exit from the Airport. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts are good. I got good suggestions of places to go for entertainment and to meet my needs. They have coffee most of the time and cookies in the afternoons.

    5
    « Great portland Hotel »

Great clean place to stay at a lower cost then some of the hotels downtown. Yet it is a quick trip to the conference locations. Clost to several good places to eat from Elmer's next door to a great Mexican one 5 blocks away. We have stayed at this hotel many times and will stay there again.

    5
    « Quite Area »

Being close to the airport you would think that it would be noisy but it was just the opposite it was very quite and restful with the heater keeping things warm on a rainy drenched night This is our second visit to this property

    5
« Beast Western Pony Soldier Inn - Airport »

Had an over night stay to catch flight in the early morning. We live 50 miles away, and it makes it difficult to get to airport timely, and imposes on friends who may take us down to the aireport. So staying in Portland is very helpful. Best Wedster is our Hotel/Motel of choice.

    5
    « Our Stay »

Excellent place, close to everything, staff was outstanding, Close to airport, even had a shuttle if needed, check-in, fast, check-out done quickly, breakfast, lots of items to chose from.would recommend this hotel, only issue is that it is close to a busy road but did not hear the road noise that much, very clean, felt protected..

    5
    « Unexpectedly Fabulous »

Don't you love it when you're pleasantly surprised? For a Best Western, you'd think they were in competition with much higher-end hotels. It was beautiful. The service was amazing. I couldn't get the TV on, and someone was in the room in 1 minute with a new remote. When I still couldn't get it to work, another staff member was there in 1 minute and showed me the "trick." (Not tech savvy, that's all.) They have a wonderful hot breakfast too. Loved everything about this place except the pillows. Try to bring your own.

    4
    « Pleasing visit »

Although my stay was on BW points and traveling with a small pet, the accommodations were perfect for my needs. The staff was professional, polite and extremely helpful with their knowledge of the area. The grounds and building upkeep looks good. Our room was clean, the bed comfortable, plenty of outlets to charge phones and computers. TV works better than most locations I stay at and the rest of the items in the room (microwave, coffee maker and a/c-heater) worked as well with no complaints. The pet walking section was well maintained and clean behind the building with baggies available to clean-up after the job was finished. All the entrance doors around the area requiring room key access worked quite well. Breakfast was good with hot food available and the hours of operation were quite adequate to accommodate most guests. This is a place I would like to return to when coming back to the area.

    « What a wonderful stay! »

I cannot say enough about the cleanliness of the entire facility, the friendly staff and the excellent room. From the word GO we were treated with a super-helpful staff, warm fresh cookies, excellent amenities and such service! They even helped us return our rental car the night before our flight, then took us to the airport the morning of. The shuttle was warm and the driver was very friendly and helpful. Complimentary newspaper, hot breakfast bar with great choices, quiet room with excellent beds and linens, clean clean clean. In spite of being near the airport and two major roadways, the rooms are silent! The black-out curtains provide total darkness. I'm a troubled, fitful sleeper and I slept like a rock with the fluffy pillows and lovely linens. I would highly recommend this place. What a pleasure to stay here. The staff even gave us lunchbags to pack a breakfast on our day of departure, as we had to leave before the breakfast area was open. It was a thrill to watch a tv that was clear and easy to use. WIFI access was fast and easy. Dont be afraid to stay here. Its totally worth it.

    « Best Western evaluation »

I am not sure what else is needed other then what has already been noted on the questionaire. I was pleased with the staff at checkin, during the stay and at checkout. I appreciated the coffee service during the day and the breakfast the one morning of the two I took advantage of. The other morning I had a breakfast meeting with other people at our charitable organization function.

« Good place to stay with great staff »

I decided to give this hotel a try after a horrible experience at the Rodeway Inn across the street. The lobby was clean and in good repair, and my room was in good condition, with the exception of some light staining on the carpet and a slow drain in the sink. It was well-lit, tastefully decorated, and offered amenities such as a large screen TV, internet, a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. The bed was very comfortable. What really made this a great experience was the staff, who were friendly, helpful and courteous. Breakfast was basic, but adequate. A good choice for a relatively inexpensive place to stay near the airport, with shuttle service to the airport running every half hour.

    2
    « Noisy and Nasty »

We got in really late to Pony Soldier (made reservations and called to let them know we would be in late) and got a room with dingy carpet and dirty marks on the walls and curtains. Our next door neighbors were loud and smoking pot and we could smell and hear it all. At 8am the hotel starting doing maintenance work which required loud banging and clanging. It was still going on when we left around noon. I've stayed here several times and each time has been a decline. Won't be staying there anymore.

    4
« Stay at Best Western »

I enjoyed the pleasant staff and the clean rooms. The breakfast could have had better eggs. The hot items did not look or taste appetizing. The area was neat and clean and well attended. The beds were good and the front office staff very nice.

    5
    « Friendly staff »

Great staff. Very helpful in answering all of my questions. The room was clean and beautifully appointed. I love the BW chain. Never disappointed. Usually the van used to transport to the airport is dirty and I can hardly understand the driver. Not this time. Sarah is a gem and should be treasured.

    « Great Place »

This was a very nice hotel, do not have one bad thing to say. There is a nice restaurant close we ate at several times. Stay was excellent and the decor very nice, Rooms are large and very comfortable. We will definitely stay there again.

    « I would go back in a heartbeat »

I would give them a 4.5 star. We had an uncomfortable bed on night one (new mattress) then we were changed and upgraded to a room with a really comfy bed. Their goal was for us to be happy and to enjoy our stay in their hotel. They accomplished this in every way.

    5
    « Love this place »

Very friendly staff, great breakfast 6-10am, comfortable beds, nice rooms, and great location close to the Portland Airport, right off the freeway... I always stay here when I visit family and friends in Portland....

    « Always reliable »

Something's never change. We have been coming to the Pony Soldier for years and it is always the same. Nice spacious rooms, a big lobby with business center breakfast every morning and a shuttle to and from the PDX airport. It's not incredibly fancy but does have a nice court yard and lovely pool. The staff always seems friendly and helpful. Having come and gone from PDX over the years to arrive at the Pony Soldier is like coming home or you know you will be home soon if you are at the Pony Soldier now.

« Pony Soldier Best Western »

This motel is among the nicest motels we have stayed: friendly, efficient staff, clean well appointed rooms and a very well maintained property overall. The breakfast was very good with hot coffee, teas and juices and choices of hot and cold items. Highly recommend this motel if anyone is in Portland at or near the airport.

    4
    « Consistent and a Value »

You'll get the value for your money, the rewards program is generous and helps with managing expenses. I use BW for Business and for family visits. It is not a Hilton or Monarch but inch for inch of value it is one of the best.

    « Excellent Location/Service/Room »

    « Everything we needed »

Our target for the evening was the Grotto Festival of Lights--not to be missed!!--and this motel was a little over a mile away. We found it to be everything needed and expected from a Best Western hotel topped off with the finest and most complete complimentary breakfast I have ever experienced! The staff, from arrival to departure, was most friendly and informative. Elmer's next door as well as other commercial establishments. Located at quite a complex intersection but still we had no trouble coming or going.

    4
    « Excellent service »

We initially spent one night here. The room was in order (although a bit outdated) and there was a tub, which was nice. The beds were very extremely soft and we slept well in them. A few days later, we returned after leaving a B&B we did not like. The staff recognized us and was extremely friendly about the situation (we were quite stressed) and ensured we had a room for the night. In fact, they even got us an upgrade, which was incredibly understanding and friendly. We felt very comfortable and would definitely return (once more).

    5
« Great Stay, Comfortable Beds »

The hotel staff was very friendly and professional. They told me which area restaurants were good to eat at. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in for a while. The breakfast I used only a few times, due to the early start of work each day. Fresh coffee was always available. I will stay at this hotel next time I am in town. Thanks

    « Pony Soldier »

We have stayed at this Best Western many times over the years and it has become a real favorite. Rooms are great, hot tub after a long day on the road, and a good breakfast. Elmers restaurant is right next door and offers a great menu.

    « I could live here! »

This was by far the best experience at a motel we have had. We have stayed at many "pet friendly" places and they had a special area just for pets to do their "business." Plus they took real good care of us humans, too. Clean, comfortable, friendly staff and great breakfast. Will be using them exclusively when we are in the Portland area.

« Great Value Close to Airport »

Stayed here on our first night in Portland. Great location close to the things we wanted to check out on our first day in the area-freeways, airport, Columbia River Gorge. Room was your average hotel room, we had everything we needed so it was the perfect set up. Staff was friendly and welcoming, would stay here again. -Free breakfast -Location a plus -Free internet access

    4
    « Great value »

I'm liking Best Western brand locations more and more for their overall value. This one is no exception. We had the option of staying at other locations in the area for over 30% higher cost, and chose this for the value. Good: - super friendly staff - comfy beds - free parking - close to the highway / airport - breakfast - free Internet access - good amenities So-so: - faucet drain was slightly broken, other items in the room show their age - hot breakfast is good, but don't expect diner quality

    5
« Great location to airport. »

We stayed here the night before we flew out and it worked out great. Free shuttle in the morning. Clean room. One little thing I liked was the bed was not facing the tv. It made our family time a little nicer not facing a television. Right next to a good restaurant as well.

    « Great Airport Hotel »

We were flying out of PDX at 5:30 A.M. so it only made sense to get a room for the night, leave our car in their parking lot and take their shuttle in the morning. When the staff heard about our early departure time, they informed us that we were leaving before they opened up their breakfast buffet. Rather then receiving a shrug and a sorry, they said that they refused to allow us to leave for the airport hungry. They proceeded to pack us a breakfast of bagels, cream cheese, fresh fruit and yogurt. How nice to have this bit of common sense humanity! The room was spacious, well appointed, spotless and quiet. I had checked around for prices and the Pony Soldier was more than competitive in the dollar to value department. Upon our return, we had spent 15 hours in airports and in the air and in a word, "bushed" comes to mind. Dee was quick to respond to our call and took charge, loading our luggage into the van and then unloading our luggage directly into our trunk, all done with a smile and kind word. We could not have asked for better accommodations!

    5
    « Clean and Inviting »

Although this is definitely not like the Resorts in Maui, it was a very nice stay. The front desk was always helpful, greeting us cheerfully each time we entered or left. The rooms were nice and clean and not too crowded. My daughter mentioned that she really liked the pillow in her room. Overall a very good choice and when we are back in Portland we will definitely stay here again.

    4
« Near Airport, No Surprises »

This is a very Good Best Western property. It is at least on par with most Best Western Plus properties. Almost everything is at least slightly better than you should expect. The parking is a little cramped if you arrive late. And, the dining options within walking distance are limited (But Elmers is next door and serves Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner). The surounding could be a bit nicer but it's near the airpot, freeway access and not too far from shopping and other activities.

« Not sure how this hotel got its high rating »

We arrived about 8pm ,check in was quick but staff was not very friendly. I booked this hotel in advance and requested an upper floor but we ended up in room 123. Not impressed by the location of this room,it is right beside an exit door which has a somewhat seedy looking trailer park right behind it ,with only a dinky fence separating the two properties ,this trailer park was also our view out the window. The room was clean but it had that "older" hotel room smell. The bed was okay but the TV sit at an odd angle ,it's beside instead off at the end of the bed. The plumbing (showers, flushing the toilet) coming from the other rooms are super loud! Train whistles can also be heard through out the night .Wifi is free and signal was good. Parking is also free at this hotel but I would suggest not to leave anything of value in you car. Breakfast was okay but we had better at some of the other best westerns . Proximity to the airport is good, and this hotel is also located right beside highway.

« Overnight prior to flight at PDX »

We spent a night here prior to a flight out of PDX early the next morning. The motel is conveniently located for accessing the airport and is just a short drive away. You can for an additional fee do a stay and fly arrangement where you spend a night at the motel, leave your car in their lot and catch a shuttle to the airport......very convenient and cost effective. The room we had was quiet, clean and comfortable allowing us to have a good night's sleep prior to our trip. The breakfast is typical fare for motels but was good, the staff was friendly and there was a comfortable place to sit and eat. All in all it was a very good experience and we would be happy to stay here again.

    4
« Ideal location, and good service »

I stayed here at the end of October for one night and I got exactly what I paid for, a good clean room with no big issues. The only issue that I had was that the hallways leading to my room had a foul stench that I believe was coming from the carpet. The carpet probably needs replacing. Overall good to go. Will come back if traveling to Portland.

  • 3
    « Marijuana »

there was a strong smell of marijuana in my room. There was no attempt to move myself and my daughter by the staff. I literally had to demand to be moved. I also overheard the staff discussing my issue with another guest as if mocking me. Eventually I was moved....in the future with the legalization of marijuana, more problems like this will probably occur. Hotels need to be more aware and accommodating to this type of situation.

    4
« Clean rooms, good service »

I always have success with the Best Western chain, and this was no different. Quick check in process. Very clean updated room. TV was at an unusual angle to the bed, but no biggie. Pleasant stay, courteous service, reasonable prices. Would return.

Warm and friendly staff made the stay nice. A nice lobby and breakfast room were welcome. Even though it's only two stories high, the elevator was a good thing. Our only complaint, which I would imagine be the same in any of the inns in the area, was the train whistles at the most inappropriate times (2 am).

« Comfortable hotel, good service »

For those that might read my reviews, we are not 4 star people. We are also very active and don't really focus too much on accommodations. Our criteria for hotels is that it is clean, comfortable and meets our needs in terms of price and access to the city or other activities. We would rather spend our money on activities, food and more travel than on high priced accommodation. This hotel did that. It was reasonable and clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful. In a Portland heat wave, the air conditioning was awesome! Pool was clean and comfortable and very enjoyable in the heat. Breakfast was typical hotel free breakfast which was fine. It was great to be able to store our bikes in the room. While it is close to the major highways (convenient) it was not noisy. The only difficulty is that in rush hour it is difficult to approach from the west as it is on an entrance to the highway. You can likely take another road to get south and east of it and come down NE Sandy Blvd that way.

« Great Place to Stay by the Airport »

This is great, affordable play to stay if you are flying into and out of Portland. They have a free 24 hour shuttle to the airport. The rooms are nice and clean. The breakfast is good. The staff is very friendly. I would highly recommend it.

We stayed here the night before our flight out of Portland. Our room was clean, great king-sized bed. Our friends' room had no tv service and they were moved immediately. Breakfast was a full hot and cold buffet. Our desk clerk, Sarah, drove us to the airport with constant tour-guide chatter, stopping to point out the blue heron in a nearby pond- she made our day!

Stayed 2 nights while attending a celebration of life. The airport pickup and returns were perfect, the room large and clean, and the breakfast had a wide selection of healthy choices. Not a new hotel, but friendly and clean.

« Easy to remember name since it's the BEST hotel with the BEST staff! »

I've been fortunate enough to travel and stay at other hotels but the Best Western Pony Soldier Inn near the Portland Airport (PDX) is in my opinion the BEST based on my last 2 stays in the last 2 years! The hotel itself has every amenity I've ever needed or desired. It's clean, offers good size rooms and suites (I've stayed in both) and the rooms are well laid out and include things from a very comfortable bed and recliner and or couch, a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker (there's also always choices of free good coffee and tea available in the lobby),a nice sized desk and lamp with multiple outlets perfect to use and charge a computer, tablet and phone with their free wi-fi and the spacious and spotless bathrooms include both tub and shower, a blow dryer and hand and body soaps and lotions. I love that they also stock the bathroom with crisp clean large body towels, medium and small hand towels as well as a non slip mat and floor towel for showering or bathing (I have mobility and balance issues so anything that lessens my chance of slipping/falling I appreciate)! They also have a free and secure washer and dryer on each floor and offer detergent and dryer sheets for a nominal fee. I traveled alone and prefer a second floor room with a balcony that faces the lovely courtyard and outdoor pool and Jacuzzi. However, the rooms I saw without a balcony seem equally as nice and had the same quality of amenities. I stayed there in mid September both times and the weather was so nice that many people used the courtyard to swim or soak in the jacuzzi, eat breakfast at one of the patio tables and chairs and even though they are located near the airport I was never bothered by noise from the planes or the guests next door to me. The Tri-met is a short 3-5 minute walk for most(I'm slow), and will take you downtown quickly. The hotel offers a free shuttle to and from the airport and the free full breakfast buffet is awesome! I especially looked forward to having a belgian waffle with strawberries, blackberries etc and whipped cream each morning, yum! Oh and during the week around 4:00pm you will smell the delicious aroma of fresh baked cookies that they offer guests at the front desk! Now to the staff..they are what makes this hotel go from being good to Excellent! They are ALL super friendly and go above and beyond to assist you, give you directions and recommendations, they treat all guests as if they were our private and personal concierge! The ladies at the front desk took the time to remember my name, address me each time I walked by with a friendly comment or asked if there was anything they could do to help me and even surprised me with many "Happy birthday" wishes! I am so bad with remembering names I truly apologize since I had planned on listing everyone who made my stay so wonderful! However Mgr Sarah has been there for me on both trips and she makes sure to treat each guest as if they are special and part of her family! This goes for all the sweet ladies at the front desk and shuttle driver, the mgr of housekeeping and each housekeeper and even the maintenance mgr! Everyone reached out in one way or another to ensure my stay was comfortable and enjoyable and I felt very safe there and got the "rock star" or "royalty" treatment! (Sarah if you see this please thank all of the staff I mentioned on my behalf) Oh and did I mention the cost is very reasonable and a great value considering all they offer and their consistently great customer service! I also got a great deal on a rental car from a nearby(but not at the airport), Enterprise office(423 NE 102nd Ave) that came to the hotel to pick me up and brought me back after I returned it. My most recent stay was for 8 days and even when they were completely full, the staff continued to be prompt, friendly, helpful and they all greeted you daily with a smile on their face and kind words. I hope to return to Portland and when I do, I will always choose Best Western Pony Soldier Inn-near PDX Airport! Sincerely, Jayna P.

    « Nice Hotel »

This is a really nice hotel with a courteous and friendly staff. The lobby and pool area were are laid out well and are very inviting. We had a pet room with a king bed and it wasn't in the best location, but it's somewhat understood as it was close to an outside pet area which makes sense. The room was heavily sanitized as I feel they're preventing any pet smells from taking over, but a little too much. If you don't have pets, the rooms on the inner courtyard overlook the pool and have a balcony and look really nice. The location is near Marine Drive which runs right along the Columbia River and eventually connects to highway 30 which is the Columbia Gorge Scenic Hwy and is not to be missed. Awesome is the word! The restaurant next door looks good, but if you go much further the area looks a little rough. We went to Bill's Chicken and Steakhouse and it was very good and reasonable. The pool area was awesome, but the pool was closed for service, which was too bad as it was beautiful.

The staff was most helpful and friendly from pickup at the airport, restaurant selections, public transportation and hotel features. The hotel is convenient for public transportation and sightseeing on the Gorge and around mountain.

« nice place to stay »

we stayed prior to a morning flight out of PDX. Room was clean, quiet and spacious. Would stay here again. The breakfast was fine unless you are vegan/vegitarian - fruit was underipe. That is expected though at a hotel breakfast.

    « very nice stay »

Great location close to the airport with free shuttle 24 hours. Attractive lobby and friendly staff who go out of their way to assist with anything you need. We stayed in a king suite that was extremely comfortable and roomy. The room was incredibly quiet given how close to the airport it is. The jetted tub was perfect at the end of the day after walking around seeing the sights of Portland. The Maxx Metro train is a short 8-10 minute walk from the hotel and it takes you swiftly to the downtown area. The breakfast buffet was impressive and kept filled and clean throughout the morning. The gal who was in charge of the breakfast area was cheery and responsive to requests. We definitely would stay there again.

[+] Comfortable, spacious and clean room with all required facilities. Helpful and friendly staff. [-] Quite far from downtown Portland; 10 mins walk to the tram station plus additional 30-40 minutes required.

Typical, near the airport hotel. Basic but clean and neat. Good breakfast included. Rooms in new/excellent repair. Staff very helpful. Close to public transport to downtown. Only drawback is that it is near a busy intersection and traffic in and out is tricky.

« Go Elsewhere with Your Pet »

Pros - very clean, free parking, friendly staff. Cons - pet owners are relegated to one of only four rooms located in the basement. Rooms are decorated the same as all rooms (which are very dated), but the view is of a poorly-maintained mobile home park (literally feet from your windows). Did not feel safe walking our dog in this area. Pet rooms also have a prevalent, constant damp, musty odor (maybe to mask prior smoke, or maybe because it's a basement!). Clearly pets are not welcomed here; they are tolerated.

Also, right next door is Elmer's Restaurant that serves breakfast all day as well as lunch and dinner. Very pleasant grounds, large breakfast area, living room setting for reading and relaxing. A truly relaxing experience!
