    « Love it! »

Very Nice motel, the pool fantastic, very clean, the people that owns it very welcoming and very helpful. I felt like I was home. I highly recommend it. They even have bikes for u to ride. Not far from the shops. Love the decor and huge rooms.

« Perfect in every way »

This was our third stay at Lazy Lizard & it certainly won't be our last. The managers Alex & Aiden look after the place beautifully & are always there with a friendly wave & a smile. The rooms offer everything you need; comfy bed, tv, kitchenette & bathroom. They are very well maintained & the rooms stay lovely & cool in the muggy temperatures FNQ brings. The swimming pool is such an amazing temperature you don't want to get out. There's a small laundry & an ice machine available as well. It's located about 15-20 minutes walk from Macrossan St & about 7-10 minutes from beautiful 4 Mile Beach. This is the ideal place to stay with ample car parking. We look forward to staying again next year.

« Friendly huge comfy room motor inn »

We stayed at The Lazy Lizard a year ago, revisiting again to say hello a couple months ago, when we just dropped into Port for the day. The 2 guys who own the resort are fabulous, so friendly and helpful. The rooms are huge, very clean and comfortable. Big comfy bed, couch, table and chairs, tv and kitchen amenities, everything you need. There is also a lovely pool. Parking outside your room. Just opposite the Sheratin resort, so on the main strip into town. We would definitely stay again if in Port for a couple of days or more as you are just made to feel welcome. Very reasonably priced for what you get.

« Helpful and informative host »

We visited Port Douglas during our vacation to Australia. Aidan was wonderful and booked our tours Keeping us up to date on how, where, what and when of each. The accomodations were excellent and the location was near all of the resturants and shops. The Great Barrier reef was our focus but we also visited other attractions in the area. On Aidan's recommendations, we took a drive up to the Daintree Rain Forest and had a marvelous time.

« Five stars are simply not enough! »

Where do I start?? My husband and I celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary, and through recommendations from Trip Advisor we chose to stay at the Lazy Lizard, and boy are we glad we did. From the moment we checked in we were treated like royalty. Aidan and Alex bent over backwards for us. The room was spacious, yet intimate, the perfect setting for a celebration such as ours. Each day the room was cleaned and reset just as it was when we first stepped in. The amenities were perfect, a small yet versatile kitchenette, well equipped bathroom and a bed that was just like home (often hard to find). Apart from this, it was the small things that these lovely boys did for us that stood out. They booked our snorkelling trip, and after learning that I had a bit of a fear of the open water, having never snorkelled before, they leant me a set to practise with in the pool, which I believed assisted in an enjoyable first time visit to the Reef. I told Aidan of my love for frangipanis and upon arriving home from our time out on the reef, there was a case of freshly picked frangipanis on the table. If you are looking for somewhere to stay at Port Douglas, seriously do yourself a favour and visit the boys at The Lazy Lizard - I know we will be returning ??

« Mildly rundown place on beatutiful grounds. »

With a coat of paint needed on virtually every surface, the grounds tend to look a bit shabby, although lush and tropical and well-trimmed. Nice small bar and reception area, all outdoor and open. The rooms are where they need the most work. They're very small and totally, I mean totally, devoid of decoration and furniture (except for the smallest desk you've ever seen). Breakfast buffet was nice, but staff had a hard time keeping up with providing food when it got busy, with many foods running out. Pretty good location, just a few minute ride to town, which has more restaurants of more types per linear foot than you've ever seen. Lots of bars and clubs. Port Douglas is a great little tourist town and shouldn't be missed when you're doing the GBR.

« Great place to stay »

We loved our stay at The Lazy Lizard in Port Douglas and wished we could have stayed longer. Port Douglas is a wonderful relaxed resort. In Aidan and Alex you could not find better hosts. Booking emails were answered promptly; Aidan arranged our transport from Cairns airport which was a great help. We arrived after the office had closed and they kindly left us a note with details of restaurants very close by for dinner. Being able to book tours through them, taking advantage of their excellent local knowledge, meant the process was stress free. They also knew a lot about the whole of the North Queensland area and their advice was a huge help, both during our stay and for onward travel. The room was a really good size and spotless (thank you to the housekeeping team). The kitchenette had all we needed and there was a great BBQ area out by the pool with all the condiments, oil, etc etc you would need to cook your food- that is a great touch. There are washer and dryer facilities on site. The pool was a welcome place at the end of a hot day's sightseeing. We love walking and so the 20 minute walk to and from town was no problem for us; it runs along a safe path all the way. You can use the bikes Aidan and Alex have available, if you prefer. Four Mile Beach is about 15 minutes walk away. Altogether a very relaxing place to stay and great value.

    « Wonderful Host »

Aidan was so helpful even before we arrived at the motel. I had some questions about Great Barrier Reef tour and used the Contact Us form on the Lazy Lizard website. Aidan answered right away and gave me information and recommendations. He arranged transportation to and from the airport in Cairns which we appreciated. Our room was spacious, comfortable and very clean. You can walk to town but we chose to use the shuttle buses which stop across the greenbelt from the motel and were reasonable and easy to use.

    « Beautiful Port Douglas »

Stayed only 1 night but would recommend for longer. Great Motel style accommodation - with kitchen facilities. Spacious, clean rooms. Very friendly management. Good posi. Very reasonably priced. Good value. A little out of the village centre but close enough and easy distance to the beach.

    « Great visit!! »

Great, affordable place. Aiden and Alex couldn't have been friendlier or more gracious and helpful. Communication was easy with them from the beginning. They suggested restaurants and booked excursions and our bus transport back and forth to the hotel. The room was immaculate and had all the basics we needed. We made good use of the saltwater pool. The absolutely gorgeous Four mile beach is a ten-minute walk from the hotel. Town is a 20-minute walk, but there is a shuttle you can pick up right outside the hotel if you prefer. So much to do in the area - I wish we had spent less time in Sydney and more in Port Douglas.

« The Place to saty in Port Douglas »

Look no further. This motel has it all and at an affordable price. Aiden couldn't be more helpful from assisting in a close to midnight check in until we left 10 days later, to suggesting places to visit AND we he next saw us asking how it went. Greeting us by name suggesting places to see and eat best deals to even cashing in our loose change before we left.. Housekeeping staff friendly and helpful again nothing too much trouble. Definitely suitable couples and families. When we go again will certainly stay there.

    « Nice hotel »

I stayed for a few nights on a short solo trip to Port Douglas. Aiden was extremely friendly and helpful with arranging airport transfers, tours and restaurant/bar advice. 20 min walk to town. Quiet and safe location.

    « Great stay »

We booked this hotel for a three night stay trip to see the Port Douglas area including the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Forest. Although located on the more southern part of town, it was still within walking distance of the main shops and restaurants. - about 20-25 minutes. Out host, Aidan was wonderful. We arrived early but he had us wait about 20 minutes and we got our room early allowing us to fully use our day in town. Our room was clean, comfortable and spacious. It was a housekeeping room with a microwave. You can arrange for the continental breakfast through the hotel for about $10/person/day or stop in town to pick up some bread or fruits which we did. They provide coffee and teas and you can also purchase from their in-room bar fridge for drinks. The pool is small but just right to cool down after a day in town. You can walk to the Four Mile Beach within minutes. The Bottle Shop is just up the road. Aidan arranged for shuttles for us from both the Cairns Airport and locally into town for evening dinners.

« Clean, close to town and great host »

Stayed two nights for a friends wedding and has everything needed for a quick stop over. Host is very hospitable and will give you all the tips of where to go and check out. Easy to find and air con nice and cold, kettle, toaster and microwave along with other items, so great for a longer stay or if you have kids.

    « Great Barrier Reef »

Stayed at Lazy Lizard while visiting Reef and Daintree Forest. Great little hotel located in the southern part of the town about 20 minutes walk to city centre. Shuttles great for access to town. Housekeeping rooms with microwaves. Lots of birds to see.

« not high priced like resorts but VERY good value »

We have previously stayed at the big resorts and they are fine but we found this great little place this time and it had everything we need and very clean and handy to town. If you don't need to spend all day in a resort pool this is the place to be, and it does have a pool too. All aspects good.

    4
« Great motel, fantastic host, excellent value »

The host is fantastic and makes you feel welcome. The rooms are all good (very good for a motel) and all very clean. Aircon is good and quiet. Only downsides: water pressure in the shower isn't great and wifi in room 12 is mostly non existent (and normal mobile reception very bad). Apart from that we even enjoyed the small pool for a couple of hours. One small tip to the owner: increase the price mate, you can definitely get a bit more out of the rooms :) anyway, would definitely recommend the place even if it is a wee bit outside of town (1.5-2km).

    5
    « Great family room! »

Unfortunately, we arrived late to this wonderful spot and had to leave early in the morning. The hosts were as friendly and helpful as could be and our family of five really appreciated the spacious family room and comfortable beds. I recommend it!

« Best Best Western Evah! »

Stayed at this property for a week in early September. If you are not a big resort type of person, this is your place. And, for good reasons: Aidan and Alex are top of the line owners/managers. They will arrange all of your plans, tours, make recommendations for restaurants, and everything else you may need. No worries is the motto here. The property is clean, safe and quiet, which are my number one requirements while traveling. Before I left, I knew I wanted to return...if it wasn't so dang far away from my home! Sigh! Happy Travels everyone. Port Douglas is truly a gem and this hotel was just my style. Plus, I sighted my first Rhinoceros Beetle while poolside. Quite a funny experience with the Aussies laughing at me while I was fleeing from his presence. LOL

    « Great little motel »

Nice little motel close to town. We pulled in late after a drive from Cairns, and were happy to land at the Lazy Lizard. Not pretentious, but comfortable, clean, and with lots of nice amenities (refrigerator, check! microwave, check! utensils! bowls! cutting board). J mentioned that the bed was unusually comfortable. Aiden was delightful when we finally met him (as was Alex), and he was very helpful in suggesting what to do. My only complaint is that people are allowed to smoke in the little patio adjacent to rooms, and smoke does drift into nearby rooms. And you will want windows open, given the climate. Other little notes: Wifi is free, and suffers from the problems of shared wifi at many lodges--most of the time it was fine, but at peak times, sometimes sites were very slow loading. And don't think you're going to watch Netflix there! Also, a nice ceiling fan--we never felt the need to use the A/C. And 2 coin-op washers and dryers.

    « Perfect »

This motel was exactly what two weary travelers were looking for. Reasonable price, comfy beds and perfect pillows. Accommodated our camper trailer, nothing was too much trouble. Front receptions Local knowledge and a friendly chat was the icing on the cake. Thanks!!

« Best value for money and service »

Great motel with exceptionally clean rooms and friendly, helpful staff. Located close to the Marina and central tourist areas in town. Stayed for 2 days and wanted to extend to another night but the motel was full. The staff went out of their way to find us alternative accomodation.

« Great location and fantastic service »

We are about to leave a 6 day stay for the second leg of our honeymoon and we could not have picked a more perfect place to stay! Aiden and Alex have been awesome and helped schedule all our excursions. They also never hesitated to recommend local businesses and helped guide the way. The room is very spacious, clean and well appointed with a very comfy bed. The grounds are also very well kept and have a BBQ to use at will and became very handy. It is also very close to 4 mile beach and the harbour. Great place to stay and we highly recommend!!!

    5
    « Best priced accomodation »

It is a pleasant 15 to 20 minute walk to the harbor or the center of town. The walk to Four Mile Beach was about 5 minutes. Best priced accommodation we had in Australia. Very functional. Got everything you'll need including lending iPhone chargers or a second hand novel.

« Good value and location and great hosts »

We were attracted to Lazy Lizard based on the reviews on TA. This is not 5 star accommodation and they don't charge as such. The hosts Aidan and Alex are extremely helpful with offering suggestions for tours, restaurants etc (based on feedback from other customers). We got them to make the tour bookings for us as it is done at no extra cost to us and they get a commission. This place is a 2 min walk to a bus stop where you catch a shuttle bus to town for either $3 or $4 each way. The walk to town is about 20 mins either along Davidson Street or the beach. The walk to the beach is around 10 mins and 15mins to the surf lifesaving club patrolled area. We extended our stay from one to two weeks as we enjoyed the place so much. The onsite pool is great. Pool towels are free of charge. There is a bbq area with all of the tools and condiments supplied along with covered dining tables alongside the pool. The place is far enough from the main road into Port Douglas to have almost no road noise. Yes as per other reviewers the cupboard doors slam shut disturbing your neighbours. Rooms are serviced daily. There is a coin laundry on site. If we get the chance to get back to PD we will definitely consider staying at Lazy Lizard again

« clean, good value, kitchen, ok location »

We got the largest room possible and it slept 5. We were only there for one night before we moved to the Sheraton across the street. We got there after reception closed and they left the room key in the room which was fine. The men at the desk were helpful the next day with booking a snorkel tour. I gave this hotel 3 stars b/c it basically is. It is not a 5 star resort nor does it try to be. The only con we had was that the room next to us stayed up until 11pm sitting outside smoking and talking and kept us up. There is no noise screening. About a 5 min drive from Macrossan street

    5
« Ideal motel in PD »

We stayed 2 nights and the room was very comfortable and clean. The décor reflected a good quality refurbishment not long ago. The room was spacious and free wifi worked fine. They also have bicycles for guests to use with the surrounding landscape fairly flat makes for easy riding.

    5
    « DISABLED FRIENDLY »

The first thing we wanted when looking for accommodation in Port Douglas was a pool that was accessible for someone with limited mobility. Although the steps are deep it was manageable. So was delighted to find there is a disabled friendly room as well. Bonus!! (There is other accommodation in PD with disabled rooms but the pools and grounds are not accessible). LOVED the ice machine to go with the esky (available for use on request), free bikes and of course the friendly and efficient hosts who have provided lots of little thoughtful extras. The only negative I found though was the cupboards in the kitchen area that snap shut with a loud bang.

    « All we needed »

Very clean, quiet location. Free wifi. Beds comfortable. Room was great could no hear other guests, had just paid much more for another accomodation and the noise levels were dreadful. . Car parking great in front of rooms. Would stay again.

« Good spot, good accommodation »

If you visit Queensland, you must snorkel or dive. And if you decide to snorkel, you must go to the Outer Reef. The best spot to do that is Port Douglas and a very good accommodation is the Lazy Lizard. Of course, the might be better hotels in Port Douglas - but with much higher rates. Super friendly manager, good equipped kitchen, free beach towels and free WIFI, all that was very useful for us during our stay. Our room hat three beds, big enough for us and two kids. A clear recommendation. We liked diving very much, may be we will come back.

    « Excellent »

Booked because of great reviews. They were not wrong. It is only a 3 star but I could not fault. Very clean and tidy Spacious Friendly and helpful staff Room cleaned and made up every day Convenient location Good parking Good value for money My only issue is that I did not stay a few more days??

    5
« Hopefully we can return one day and would definitely recommend! »

Rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean and air con is fully functioning! Location is perfect! Car parking and front of unit is perfectly shaded! However, the biggest reason for staying here would be the excellent service from Aidan and Alex! They cannot do enough to help and made our stay perfect Thank you!

    « Don't Tell Anyone?. »

My husband and I have just spent an amazing week here! The rooms are spotlessly clean and spacious with a great hot shower. Our wonderfully friendly, knowledgable hosts, Aidan and Alex, have thought of everything - they supplied coffee plunger, condiments for our BBQ, instructions on how to cook our steak perfectly, non breakable glasses for our wine poolside, fluffy pool towels, free pushbikes with locks & helmets, clothes airers, washing machines & dryers, laundry powder, sunscreen, book & DVD library, ice machine, and even Eskies (ice coolers) on request for a picnic on the beach. A continental breakfast supplied if we wished. We would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone - it is such a peaceful oasis and only a 15 minute walk to town (although the shuttle bus is at the door) We will definitely be back!!!

    5
« Such a great place hidden away. »

We only stayed here because our usual place of choice was fully booked and to tell the truth we ended up here because we did a Mystery deal. But I have to say we were extremely happy with the service and our room. It was quite, clean and spacious with everything you need. After 20 years of staying at the same place when we vis

« Great place to stay »

Very nice clean friendly helpful staff and motel. It is rated Number 1 for a reason or many reasons. Aidan one of the owners is really friendly and professional. The pool is cold but good. Really huge rooms and cleaned everyday. Central to beach and shops. I will definitely recommend this motel.

    « Great stay »

Excellent customer service. The rooms were large and simple. Great value for what you get. The beds are comfortable. Convenient location. Clean. Can't go wrong staying here. We will return to this Best Western if we ever return to PD.

    « Fabulous location,quiet, friendly/helpful hosts »

Spacious unit;comfortable bed; adequate seating; spotless/beautifully laundered linen;mature palms etc located immediately beyond the path outside the unit separated the unit from the carpark and enhanced the tropical feel of the establishment.Friendly, helpful hosts (Aidan and Alex) made u feel most welcome. Location perfect for us elderly who had a car but it was only a 20/30 minute walk into town for the more agile.Shuttle buses operate in the area to/from town. Room had a microwave and electric frypan which suited us. Motel suitable for partially disabled - one of us .WiFi connection a bit difficult, but this is not a real issue for seniors. Best motel we have experienced in 40 years of travel around Australia/New Zealand.

    « Great staff »

What a wonderful place and excellent hosts. We had a great week staying here, so close to one of the greatest beaches in the world and only a couple of minutes drive to the great restaurants and shops. Aidan and Alex were very welcoming and great in helping us with tours and travel tips. The place is very well maintained and the unit was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. We had such a very relaxing week, at times we did feel like a couple of lazy lizards. We will definitely stay here again next time we travel to Port Douglas.

« Why didn't we book to stay for longer! »

What a wonderful Welcome to the Lazy Lizard, Pt Douglas ! A Gem, it's lovely thanks to Aidan and Alex and the seemingly effortless way they have of being great hosts, which is so appreciated as they must work very hard to achieve all they do. Stayed for 6 nights, not enough. Room was excellent, very clean, fan, air conditioning, serviced daily. Didn't use kitchen facilities, but there is a microwave, too many great places to eat, why cook! Car park just outside the room. Which is good when you have a rental car. Pool was spotlessly clean, as were the grounds. Even though it's not a heated pool, don't let that put you off, it was beautiful to relax and swim in, especially after walking around during the day. And they provide FREE pool towels, no $ 5 per towel charge like some other places we have stayed at. Our trip was planned to do things in the morning, early afternoon, before it got warm, return to have a swim about 2 ish, then head out to Port for drinks and dinner! Achieved all of that. See other reviews for great places we found for meals! Alex and Aidan provide you with their knowledge on what the area can offer, it will save you heaps of time, and that time can be better spent doing other things! They know their ' stuff' ! The Port Douglas shuttle buses operate going in and out of town, at $ 4 per person, per trip, and it's just across from Lazy Lizard, great service. Excellent location, excellent place to stay, and if they keep getting these reviews, none of us will ever have a hope of booking to stay here again,! Thank you for a great week! We hope to return !

    « Very, very good »

Stayed at the LL for 5 nights. We chose to stay on the merit of previous TA reviews from guests. All that was commented positively is perfectly true. Large room, spotlessly clean, quiet - all the boxes ticked. But more .. the hosts Aiden and Alex were marvellous, being helpful with plenty of advice for wife and I to get the best from our time as tourists in Port Douglas.

    5
« Great spot for family vacation »

Aidan and Alex are great friendly and helpful hosts. The Lazy Lizard is spotless and is perfectly operated. We stayed for 7 nights and even extended it for another night. We found the location to be perfect and quiet. The rooms were a good size and had a nice little private terrace where we could enjoy breakfast or dinner. The beach can be accessed by bicycle that are provided for free. Whenever we needed anything either Aidan or Alex would help by recommending a day trip, or a tour operator that would suit our needs best. In terms of small hospitality issues they never hesitated in terms of helping with small things and as always a great experience is always in the details. We highly recommend the Lazy Lizard to anyone who wants good value and places emphasis on cleanliness and service. If you go we also recommend that you discuss your plans for day trips and book them at the hotel as they know the ins and outs of where and when to go. Thanks for a great stay. Bjarki, Kim, Björn and Kaj

    « Spotless »

This is our tenth stop over accommodation on our holiday .We pre booked as it was a long weekend and was pleasantly surprised - lovely setting as we drove in early to secure our booking - the manager greeted us very warmly and produced a map to show us all the sights of Port Douglas and the most northern sights we were interested in seeing . We continued on up north and arrived back after 8 pm very tired - on entering our room we were pleasantly surprised - it was spotless - the best in my opinion of all our accommodation throughout - modern bathroom small kitchen but kettle toaster all that we needed - very comfortable bed - definitely be back when our next visit to the lovely Port Douglas - Julie

    « Stunning Service »

If it is good value, spacious, peaceful accommodation with a lovely comfy bed and kitchenette you are looking for then I say don't hesitate to book this motel. But wait there's more.... and he's called Aidan. From the moment I phoned to book, this guy had me laughing and looking forward to our trip. When I phoned to say we would be in at near midnight instead of lunch time as Virgin had let us down he put my mind at rest advising our lovely unit number 2 would be unlocked and we could still get our included breakfast whenever we were ready in the morning. This helpfulness continued on... every time I put my head in the reception door needing advise on what to see, where to eat, or what not to miss no matter which daily destination we chose. As hubby Richard said ïts a good Best Western Motel, but it is the service from Aidan and Alex that set it apart. Check out the photos showing for this motel, as they are all very true, that is what you get. We stayed for 8 great nights, enjoyed the busy days which followed Lazy Lizards yummy breakfast (miss the muesli already) and then relaxed in your quiet and tropical niche. I have never met such friendly hosts and I hope you make it to the South Island one day when you take a much-deserved break. Kia ora from New Zealand - Joanne

    « Very pleasant experience »

We stayed for nearly 1 week in this motel and considered it was in a good position opposite the Mirage complex. We found it clean, quiet, friendly and fair value. what more could we say. A couple of seniors.

« Basic but friendly service »

The hotel does what it says on the package, providing budget accommodation and friendly service. The location was okay, with the beach just walkable distance, although with two young children, there was more driving into town than we have done on previous visits. The accommodation was very quiet, but the location of the pool was right at the entrance, so cars went past and it didn't give much privacy from the street. The rooms were clean enough, but there was a strong mould smell in the cupboards. Reception were great, super friendly and happy to help with booking tours. I'm not sure I'd stay again, as it was a little too far from the beach and Macrossan street, but it was affordable in peak season.

« Helpful and Personal Staff »

The front desk staff were very personal knowing me by name and offering great assistance in getting around and how to see the Daintree rainforest on our own, providing suggested stops and advice. We were able to get groceries and prepare breakfast in our room. When arriving, look for the cemetery on the left and turn left to access Davidson Street. It is a little hard to see from Port Douglas Road. Covered parking was right near room.

    « Excellent Hosts »

I had one of the best experience ever, staying in this motel. Great service started not just on arrival but straight after booking the accommodation few weeks earlier. We are still raving the great service from Aidan ( also Alex ). Although one can get much info these days from internet, tips from locals still matter- that's where Aidan is so good at. Moreover, the motel is nice, clean place to stay- decent walking (or 2-3 min. driving ) distance to beach and restaurants.

« Perfectly prices, clean and great amenities »

We just stayed one night to get an extra night in Port Douglas with our family of four (2 adults, 2 teenagers) and it was excellent. Friendly staff, clean rooms, well equipped, and it was a nice touch having the free bike hire. A well run place. Good location and good privacy as well. Well priced too.

    « Stay HERE »

My 13 year old daughter and I (and sometimes other family members) travel every US summer while she's off school. There's usually a place that years later we say, ?Ooooh, and remember that place [such and such]? I LOVED it there!? After this summer's five weeks Down Under, The Lazy Lizard is that place for us. We stayed there ten days in June. Check in We flew in late from Ayer's Rock so we got to Port Douglas and the Lazy Lizard after Reception had closed. I had loads of email communication with the owner Aiden before getting there so he knew we'd get in late. He organized our ride up (and back) from the airport at Cairns and told me to ping him that day so he could tell me our room number and how to get into the room after hours. All of that worked out smoothly. The next day we went to the office and took care of the paperwork and such. The room The room itself was HUGE with two queen beds, a living room area with a sofa bed, a table and chairs, closet and a desk/drawer/TV built in. There was a patio and little table and chairs outside too. Also, there was a full kitchen with a sink, fridge, electric pan, toaster, microwave, cabinets, and dishes. The bathroom was clean and large with a separate shower and a tub. I had been trying to book places with kitchenettes since we often do better if we can cook and eat on our own schedules. This studio was exactly what I'd had in mind. The studio had a tiled floor and was spotlessly clean, was cleaned and the supplies were refreshed every day. If I needed something like say, extra conditioner for my kid's long hair, all I did was mention it up front and it'd be there when we got back from our excursion a few hours later. There were towels available at reception for the pool, beach, diving or other excursions. Also, there's a coin laundry room and ice machine, but no vending machines or restaurant. The book exchange is in the laundry room. The units face a car park but it's not motel-like in feel since there's a tall stand of lovely blooming tropical vegetation between the rooms and the cars. I would think it would be super convenient if you actually drove in but we didn't have a car and I only chose this place based on its Trip Advisor reviews that preceded us. The pool The pool is lovely and since the hotel is small and there's so much to do outside, there were never very many people at the pool when we went. There's a spa with jets but it's not hot. It was perfect for us to take a dip and cool off after being out and about, and we spent one afternoon off just lounging and it was perfect for that too. The wifi The wifi was stronger at the front of the studio than the rear, but my daughter was able to lie on the sofa and stream all she wanted to and I was able to email and take care of what I needed to as well. Location The location was outside the hustle and bustle of the main drag of Port Douglas. It was about a 20 minute walk for us the first time we did it. There are shuttles and we wound up signing on for a three day pass to take us to the main drag, ferry building, restaurants, 4 mile beach, and even the Wild Animal Park the opposite direction. It was affordable and also very convenient since they come when you call them. We didn't use it on excursion days since those did hotel pick ups. The bookings Which brings me to the excursions. Aiden and Alex can book tours and have all the info on local possibilities. They know a ton about each and can steer you to something that suits you. Not at all cookie cutter. For example, Aiden recommended an outstanding Daintree tour for us that still sort of blows my mind. The bush guide was intelligent and articulate and full of information: the wet rainforest plants that reproduce without flowering--I mean before flowers evolved-- exactly as they did when dinosaurs walked the earth; how the locals fought off the developers to save Daintree; cultural information about the Aboriginal people of the area; sugar cane industry and its history; information about the criminal justice system in the country, about poverty and incarceration. The guy was a wealth of info and it was all so fascinating. Aiden and Alex also got us on the most perfect-for-us dive trip since it was my daughter's first dive. Aiden was clever enough even to not mention aloud that the boat had on board Wifi but rather point it out to me silently on the brochure. Just in case I didn't want to let my kid know that but just in case it was useful to me if I wanted to say, dive while she stayed aboard. Haha. So savvy. In the end, we did one snorkel, one intro dive together, and another snorkel. No need for wifi. I'll review that dive trip separately later. It was great. The people Sometimes when we're sitting with our travel journals we'll make pros and cons lists of the various places, hotels, tours, flights etc. that we experience. Our list for the Lazy Lizard was profoundly skewed to the pro side and included a long list of why we liked the owners and also the other travelers we bumped in to. From my daughter about Aiden and Alex: helpful; nice; tours; advice; their dogs; always there; responsive. From me about those two: it's like they've carved out this great life for themselves there in Port Douglas and they're happy and sharing it all with the rest of us strangers. Their happiness is infectious and the other travelers including us seemed to catch it. The other folks we met included people from all over the world with smiles on their faces. There was an English fellow who was traveling around the world in four months. There was an older Australian couple with two kids who were up from Melbourne where it's so cold in June. There was a very tired Chinese American family so relieved to be there. Everyone was so happy to be there. That's not just Port Douglas, it's that place: Lazy Lizard. We'll remember this place. We LOVED it there.

« Great place to stay in port Douglas. Very friendly and helpful. »

Highly recommend this friendly motel. The guys were very helpful booking trips and giving local advice. Place was clean and comfortable. 20 min walk into town. Can catch bus out from town and set off the main road with a walking path into town.

« Great place to stay in Port Douglas!! »

Just back in Melbourne after a great five days at the Lazy Lizard Motor Inn. What a great place to stay! Clean, comfortable and very reasonably priced. Aidan was really helpful. Himself and Alex run a really lovely motel. Aidan has a great knowledge of the area and gave us great tips on Mosman Gorge, Daintree and Cape Tribulation - he even recommended the best place to get ice cream in Daintree! The Lazy Lizard is a short drive from the centre of Port Douglas and only a 20 minute walk or you can use the shuttle bus to get back. Will definitely stay there again if I'm back in area.

« Great value for money and immaculately presented »

The staff at the Lazy Lizard are so helpful and friendly. The rooms were spotless and although they may not be ultra modern it was hard to fault them, as they were equip with everything we needed to prepare a family meal. The other night we made use of the BBQ area by the pool. There are nice touches such as the free condiments in the BBQ area, free ice. A laundry with a book swap shelf and free bikes. The Lazy lizard is situated close enough to the beaches yet away from the busy main drag.

« Great value for money »

We can't justify spending huge prices for a bed to sleep in so thie motel provided excellent value for money. Our room was large, extremely clean with great bethroom/kitchen facilities. It is close enough to the Main Street of Port Douglas but not shadowed by some of the monstrous resorts. There was plenty of parking and not much noise.

« Very clean well located for the price »

This motel offers nice clean rooms within short walking distance to main port Douglas centre, staff were friendly on arrival and most helpful. Priced well considering location with mordern facilities.

    « wonderful stay »

The Lazy Lizard was just what we wanted in Port Douglas. It was excellent value -very friendly help and guidance, clean and comfortable. I dealt with Aidan who was wonderful-genuine and enthusiastic. As we had to leave at 5:30 in the morning to head north to Daintree he gave us our breakfast items (that we were leaving too early to enjoy at the motel) the night before so we kept them in the fridge and we had full stomachs before we left. It was only our third day in Australia and we were still in shock over the expense of the restaurant food - he gave us a heads up for where many of the locals eat- where we thoroughly enjoyed our reasonably priced dinner and drinks The room was large, with a queen bed and single bed and the parking by the room and small laundry facilities were handy. Also thoroughly enjoyed the swim in the salt water pool Would highly recommend!

    « Brilliant Motor Inn »

This motor Inn was ideal for our family stay, it was very good for its budget. Provided good clean rooms with kitchenette and comfortable beds & the location to the Marina area was not too far away. The friendly helpful staff just added to this.Highly recommend it to anyone who is on a budget and when you are out and about all day who cares if you don't have a 5 star resort and save your dollars for going out !

« No frills, clean, comfy, and affordable »

The Lazy Lizard isn't a fancy resort like so many of the hotels in Port Douglas. Instead, it's a great value for a very clean, very comfortable, very friendly hotel. The rooms are large, with a queen bed and single bed as well as a pull-out couch. The kitchenette is great, with a fridge, microwave, electric kettle, and electric frying pan?enough to make eggs for breakfast. There's even a grill guests can use to cook dinner if they want. The beds are comfortable, and the ceiling fan (along with AC) keeps the room comfortable. But the best thing about the Lazy Lizard is the proprietors. We dealt mostly with Aidan, who was great with suggestions of what to do and where to eat. Overall, it's a great place to stay in Port Douglas, especially if you're looking for a place to sleep and journey out, not a place to spend all day at the pool.

« Superb hosts, spacious room, reef & rainforest »

We enjoyed our stay at the Best Western Lazy Lizard very much. Our hosts were fantastic. They helped us with everything we needed and answered all our questions about the area. They talked us through all the Great Barrier Reef tour options. We felt that they really listened to us and took into account our travel preferences. They booked a tour for us, gave us delicious dining suggestions, and told us all about what to see & do in the area. Our room was very spacious: two beds, couch, desk area, mini dining table & chairs and still open floor space leftover. The kitchen allowed us to make several meals at home. The 'electric frying pan,' was larger than we had assumed. It was large enough for boiling water and making pasta. We also fried eggs in it. On top of that there was a hotpot, toaster and microwave. Other details that we just loved included: Salt & pepper supplied in kitchen. Fresh milk in the fridge for your tea and coffee. USB port on bedside lamp for charging devices Bicycles for rent Ice machine Washer and dryer available Drying racks available Coolers and ice packs for free (Eskies) Free beach towels Swimming pool Fast free wifi Ample parking Overall we had a great stay here. The Best Western Lazy Lizard had everything we needed and more. We would definitely stay here again. It was a great base for seeing both the reef & the rainforest.

« Fabulous place, exceeded expectations »

We've been travelling for months and this stands out as one of the best places we've stayed in. Really spacious, well equipped, clean, good location and to top it, the staff are amazing. Always smiling, always helpful and went out of their way to help us. Would definitely come back here.

    « Great Place »

Great place just out of the centre of PD. Nice (and large) clean rooms. Swimming pool, BBQ facilities, walking distance to the beach. Friendly owners always happy to help out. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back again.

    « Relax and Enjoy! »

Our Port Douglas experience did not start well when our GPS took us from Cairns via Mossman! But from the time we arrived at the Lazy Lizard everything improved out of sight - we were late, and reception was closed, but we called the after hours number and were warmly welcomed anyway. This place doesn't have the gorgeous views or luxury layout of some others in Port Douglas. It is just a comfortable, spotlessly clean, functional place to stay while you explore the area. And the hosts are the cream - thanks Aidan and Alex!

« Fantastic value for money »

Quiet location short bike ride to Macrossan street restaurants and shops. Great big room, comfortable king size bed, air con, wifi, swimming pool. Very clean and neat apartment with lounge, kitchen and dining. Hosts recommended places to eat. My only regret is staying one night, would have liked to stay longer.

Could not fault the Lazy Lizard ! Excellent value. Customer service absolutely first class. So many extras that made or stay so enjoyable. Would recommend to others The motor Inn really does deserve the ratings that it gets . As hard I try I can not find one negative comment about our stay Well done guys ! You are all brilliant and we suggest others take your lead

    « Pleasant. Comfortable. Affordable. »

Rooms were pleasant with both ceiling fan and air con. Beds comfortable and bathroom usable. The pool was clean and inviting and we used it several times. If your after a place to stay when you visit Port Douglas and are going to be out all day this establishment is great. It's not a resort but it is a nice motel.

    « Lazy Lizard-AMAZING! »

LOVED!!! Absolutely the BEST. Accommodating, Clean, Aiden and Alex are AMAZING. I wished I stayed longer. I felt welcomed and they were helpful with each detail of tours, strolling around town, food and more! They made sure I was ready for everything! I can't wait to go back there.

« Excellent service from friendly owners »

Aiden and Alex are helpful and friendly. They are generous with advice and can offer discounts for lots of the area attractions. In fact, it seems to be a Port Douglas thing to offer honest promotions of other community businesses -- refreshing and useful. The room was clean and the facilities well maintained. We enjoyed the chance to do our laundry for a very reasonable cost.

We were very pleased with the accommodations at the Lazy Lizard. Our room was very spacious, well lighted and well equipped with coffee pot, microwave, toaster and fridge. The pool was gorgeous. There was a nice gas barbecue grill for the guests to use complete with instructions on how to use, barbecue tools, an array of barbecue sauces, utensils, plates, glasses and a nice dining area. Everything you would need for a barbecue except the chef. The owners were exceptionally pleasant and very helpful in setting up tours and shuttles. It was very easy to get to downtown Douglas from the Inn. The local shuttles were cheap and came by every 10 - 15 minutes, you could walk (15 - 20 minutes), or bike with bikes and helmets that the Inn had available for guests to use at no charge. If we ever have the opportunity to visit Port Douglas again, we would definitely stay at the Lazy Lizard.

    « Unbeatable »

This review is long overdue as we stayed here last October. At this stage you would think we would have forgotten the details but no, since our stay here we compare every place we stay to the lazy lizard. The friendliness and cleanliness were unbeatable and our rooms were made up to a really high standard daily which was a really nice touch. It was comfortable and totally affordable. The pool was perfect for the two of us to cool off in the evening and the BBQ had all the essentials and was in a nice setting. At the front desk Aidan couldn't have been more helpful and was very informative about the area. He booked tours for us on the next stage of our trip. Would love to stay here again sometime but in the meantime we recommend it to anyone. Go raibh míle maith agat!

    « Great value »

Great value accommodation. The guy in reception was so helpful in advising us on our trip up the coast and had some good ideas for dinner in town. Lovely quiet location with exceptionally clean rooms. Lovely pool to cool off in too. There is a communal bbq complete with plates and cutlery and a range of sauces. Complimentary bike hire too! This is great as it's at least a 20 min walk to the town, harbour or beach.

« Lovely hotel and excellent service »

This is a pretty hotel with large, comfortable, rooms and good facilities. The staff were very friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make our stay a good one. They also had good knowledge of the local trips available and were able to offer advice that worked very well for us.

« Great value, full amenities »

We stayed there in March, a hot humid end of their rainy season. - Best western air-conditioner was the needed relief at the end of each day - Alex (co-proprietor) gave great advice and suggestions, so we bought the Barrier Reef tickets at the front desk - American style ice machine next to the office!!!! Great! Even Australian Holiday Inns don't do that - Comfy beds

    « Fantastic value »

The owners are both very friendly and will go out of their way to help you and offer advice. The room was spotlessly clean, large, and with a comfy bed and good shower. The motel is located in a quiet area within walking distance of the marina. The motel represents excellent value for money, we would definitely stay here again. Port Douglas is also to be recommended as a location to visit.

« Wonderful welcome and great facilities! »

This is a great place to stay. Clean, well appointed, good air-con, lovely pool to cool off in and a friendly and very helpful owner. We were so pleased we chose this motel as it was quiet and had everything that more expensive places boast about - except a restaurant, but Aidan was able to point out the best one in Port Douglas where we ate at a very reasonable price. Don't pass this one by!!

    « Friendly Host »

We stayed there for 3 nights. The room was clean and spacious. It was beginning of Feb and was really hot and humid. The air conditioning was working ok but a bit noisy. .... and we had to keep the fan on in order to keep the room cool. There's wifi in the room but the reception was not great. We had to stay close to the door to get good reception. The owner Aidan was very kind and helpful. But overall it's a very good hotel for the price and location is good!

« Good value in a convenient location »

The motel is a short distance from town, just off the main road. The town and beach are walkable, but I expect most people would have transport. The units are reasonably well equipped, with a full size fridge and a microwave, although there is no stove top for self caterers. Parking is right outside the unit, under a canopy, and there is also an outside seating area. All in all, a good budget choice for a short stay in Port Douglas.

    « Fantastic Stay »

Just come back from spending 12 days here. The motel was clean and tidy and had everything we needed to make the stay comfortable. Anything we needed (towels for pool etc) were there as well. Aidan and Alex were wonderful hosts, they spent the time answering all the queries we had and guided us as to which tours etc were the best to meet our needs. They have only been in the Motel business since July 2015 but after being there you would think they had been doing it for a lot longer - they seemed like seasoned professional in the business - well done and keep it up. Would definitely stay there again

    « Fun times »

Awesome place to stay. Rooms are nice (bathrooms are a little dated). Best thing about this place are the new owners (even though the old owners we great too!). They are welcoming and so helpful. They booked many of the tours we went on and gave great advice as to what to do around the region. Pool is nice and clean. A short drive or 20 minute walk into town. Would recommend this place to anyone. We had a wonderful time!

    « Fantastic »

A spacious and well presented room, representing great value for money . Aiden and Alex made us feel very welcome and were very helpful in offering great suggestions for self touring. The swimming pool and bbq area very clean and tidy and the provision of oils, paper towels, bbq tools and plastic ware for use in the pool area was an outstanding addition. The continental breakfast was more than adequate for our needs.

    « Excellent! »

Little motel with huge comfortable rooms. It has a little kitchen with microwave in it and plenty of room to sort out your luggage when youre on a long journey. The owner or recepsionist made us feel very welcome and gave some great tourist info about the daintree and cape tribulation. There is a big mango tree in front of the reception wich had ripe fruits the summer. The mangos where collected and free to take. They are delicious! Would recommend this place to anyone!

« Spacious rooms which are immaculately presented; great location; superb hosts »

Your unit at the Lazy Lizard will be big and spacious; a queen size bed, a separate single bed, plus a double sofa (which also converts to a bed), very large desk space, large dining table. The kitchenette is extremely well-appointed (microwave, kettle, toaster, large fridge and freezer, good selection of utensils/cutlery), plus of course a good-sized bathroom with separate shower from the bath. At the front, you have your own terrace space with two chairs. Excellent, fast wi-fi, great air conditioning, large flat screen TV, window screens (the unit has windows at the front and back) and ceiling fan. On the property, there is a small pool with some reclining chairs, a BBQ area and a guest laundry. All is presented in an immaculately clean state, with new fluffy white towels and soft bed linen. The location is terrific ? set one street back from the principal road into Port Douglas (but very quiet ? no traffic noise can be heard), with a 12 to 15 minute walk to the stunning beach, 25 minute walk into the town centre, where there are many restaurants/cafes plus a Coles supermarket, and also the marina, where the boats to the reef depart. If driving, any of these will take about 5 minutes to reach; there is plenty of free parking in Port Douglas and of course at the Lazy Lizard you have your own space. The LL is located right across from the Mirage residences, which are the multimillion dollar villas attached to the Sheraton Mirage (which itself is undergoing a significant refurbishment). If you have your own transport, day trips to Cape Tribulation, the Daintree river, Mossman Gorge, Cairns, Tablelands area, plus of course the reef, are highly recommended. But what really makes this motel so outstanding are the owners, Aidan and Alex. They told me they took over the property about 6 months ago and with backgrounds in hospitality and looking after people, appear to have really put their heart and soul into ensuring that Lazy Lizard is run superbly and that all their guests will have a great stay. They are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the best local attractions to see, given your time and budget. If you are looking for a great place to stay in Port Douglas, but not to spend at the rates and prices commanded by eg the Sheraton Mirage or Pullman resorts, I would have no hesitation in recommending the Lazy Lizard.

« It is an excellent Motor Inn. »

My wife and I stayed in over christmas 2015 with our 3 daughters, 6, 4 & almost 2. We had the family room which has a Queen bed in the main area and two singles in another room with a built in cupboard. We also used a port a cot in that room and it was not cramped. It was a very good sized second room. Now, from my title, this is not a resort. If you are looking for a resort, this may not be for you, but if you have a family and you are not keen on the huge 2 bedroom prices you can pay in the centre of Port, then don't look past the Lazy Lizard. Check in was a breeze and we were made to feel very welcome from our first phone call to book, during check in and throughout our stay. We even got a wave upon departure as we drove out. Service is great, cannot be faulted. The room is excellent, the beds and pillows are very comfortable. There are some downsides though, more feedback than criticisms. There is free Wifi, it is sketchy at best. We tried to use youtube for the kids and it couldn't handle it on most occasions. I found even using basic browsing and Facebook tedious. Maybe is was our unit, but it wasn't great, even for free. There is a sign above the sink that says something along the lines of "our housekeepers are not responsible for your dishes". This did not sit right with me, I'm happy to do the dishes, but I am a guest staying in the hotel. There has to be a better way of getting the message across. I felt like I was being chastised for someone else's sins and this wasn't in keeping with the friendly feel of the Lazy Lizard. The cooktop is a plug in, very old looking unit that took forever to warm up to temperature. I tried to make scrambled eggs for the kids one morning and gave up and microwaved them. Having said that, I could fry an egg so maybe it just couldn't handle that much fluid in the small pan. There is no air conditioning in the second room, so having the door open to keep it cool enough for the kids makes it hard for parents to have any privacy. AT ALL. We had 3 sets of friends in different resorts in Port during our stay, in 2 bedroom apartments who all paid marginally less than us. Having said that, they all wanted to hang out at the Lazy Lizard by the pool. It was that nice. Overall, this place is excellent. The pool is great for kids and adults alike. The small items mentioned above are outweighed by everything else that is positive. We left there more relaxed than when we got there, which is always a plus for a family holiday. It may be a 3 and half star property, but a 5 star rated one.

« Why go anywhere else? »

My wife and I stayed at the Lazy Lizard in September, and will shortly be booking again for next September as we have just booked flights to Cairns. The accommodation certainly exceeded our expectations; namely the size, cleanliness and quality of the room - but in particular we appreciated the accommodating hosts, Aiden and Alex, who really stamp their own hospitable and friendly manner on the Lazy Lizard. The Motor Inn is a little out of town, so a rental car is pretty essential, but then again, one is required to get to the many wonderful sights and beaches of the region. If visiting, definitely plan a full day trip up the Daintree and give yourselves plenty of time for all those side trips. Make sure you also get plenty of "relax" time on Four Mile Beach, Aiden and Alex were very obliging in offering beach chairs and a beach umbrella. Best value accommodation, highly recommended! P.S. I'm posting this now, but I intended to post back in September but it got overlooked in the return to the work force! Can now look forward to a Port Douglas return.

« The "Best" of Port Douglas »

With excellent service, spacious rooms and good facilities, this is an excellent choice for those staying in Port Douglas. Aiden and Alex are welcoming and eager to provide tourist information. Furthermore, the modern and spacious rooms have many facilities, with shared facilities such as an ice machine and a washing machine also available.

    « Undiscovered gem »

If the rooms look big in the pics, that's because they actually are. What can I say, this place was my favourite, 2 double beds, nice and clean, great pool and spa. Alex is really nice and helpful. Only downfall maybe that it's a bit far out of town but if you have a car, look no further.

    5
    « A welcoming stay »

Adrian and Alex provide a very pleasant stay at a clean and spacious motel with a kitcenette and covered parking. Wi Fi is free and works well.Their advice and guidance for things to see were most welcome and never intrusive. The motel is located about 15 minutes walk from the centre of Port Douglas and about 10 minutes from the beach over the road. Port Douglas is an appealing place to stay. Lots of restaurants to try and a place with a lively atmosphere. For the first time overseas visitor I would recommend hiring a car at the airport as places of interest to visit are way out of town.

Lovely accommodation spotlessly clean free efficient Wfi. The room has a bath and shower all modern and well presented Welcomed by great hosts Adian and Alex couldnt be more helpful. We had a two day stay and had maid service which was great. Ideal for all the local sights and near the beach and town of Port Douglas. It is great value and would highly recommend.

« Good location, clean, huge bed »

Port Douglas is a very nice town with good restaurants. Best Western Lazy Lizard is just (few minutes) outside the city center. The place has spacious rooms and huge beds and is very clean. Cars can be parked in the shadow (covered parking places), which was great considering it was over 30 degrees outside. Free (and fast) wifi also is a big plus! The owner is very friendly and helped us with some good advice for travelling.

    5
    « Very Pleased »

We booked our 16 night stay based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews and were not disappointed. We were visiting family and spent the bulk of our time in and around the pool as well as short day trips. The unit was clean and spacious with a small but well equipped kitchenette. The managers Aidan and Alex could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Our only complaint? That the mangoes didn't ripen a week earlier.

« Love the Lazy Lizard!!! »

If you have a car, and you want a moderately priced clean comfortable hotel, and you don't mind not being right on the beach (though it's not that far away), then the Lazy Lizard is for you. This place is very well run by Aidan and Alex, and they are so helpful if you have any interest in booking a snorkeling cruise or any outdoor adventure in the area. Rooms were spacious, spotless, and very comfortable. The little lagoon style swimming pool was also fun - but of course you have the Great Barrier Reef just off shore there. Wish we would have had more time. May someday plan a whole trip just in the Port Douglas area and for sure we would stay at the Lazy Lizard. Highly recommended!!

« Lovely place to stay »

We booked this hotel for an overnight stay whilst travelling. Our room was spacious, clean and inviting. Comfortable bed. No leaking taps. Quiet airconditioner. The tropical gardens seemed to make units more private than a normal motel. Restaurants close by. No road noise as motel is set back from main road. Very pleasant management!

We spent 4 nights here and are more than happy!!! The rooms are big clean, comfortable and quiet and have a food price. The motel overall is very homely with the palms and flowers. « Lovely »

Stayed for a week with my mum and sister. Aidan and Alex couldn't help enough. From help with trip organising to supplying plasters and first aid for my mum. Thier local knowledge made our trip even better. The continental breakfast brought to your room is a great help but wish the mangoes were ripe on the tree outside. We tried the pool a couple of times and was lovely at the end of a hot, humid day. Rooms all very clean and beds comfy. The one thing that could be improved are the bathrooms as they are looking well used but wouldn't put me off returning.

Good everything! Staff was really nice, helpfully and explain us all we need about all the things. Swimming pool is very nice to swim in the afternoon. They have the best bed we have stay in all Australia, very, very confortable. For us it was perfect, including the price if you compare with another options.

« Lazy Lizard was perfect! »

Port Douglas was the first tourist stop on our four week trip to Australia. We spent three nights at the Lazy Lizard and it satisfied our needs for a comfortable accommodation where we could relax after two very busy days touring the Daintree area and the Great Barrier Reef. The kitchenette and laundry facilities were extremely convenient and the large room was an added bonus. We bought a few groceries and had breakfast in our room and used the shared laundry facilities on our last night. The owners were always available to answer our questions and the tropical gardens made the stay even more relaxing. It was a short drive into town for dinner each evening and only a few minutes to Mossman Gorge where we went on our arrival day. We had no time to use the pool or even wander to nearby Four Mile Beach. This was a great way to start our time as tourists in Australia.

    « Great Stay »

Our family of four visited from NY in August. What made the stay were the hosts. They told us where to go and what to see. It was a respite to go back to the hotel after a busy day of sightseeing. The lrooms were spotless, and the kitchenette came in very handy. The hotel is walking distance from the main drag, which has nice restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. Wish I could go back.

« Great place to rest and explore PD »

I stayed here for 3nights and wanted to visit PD and Cape Trib. The room is very spacious, very clean and has sufficient amenities to cook a proper meal. Good for families or when you just want to eat in. I do find eating out in PD higher than in Cairns city / Airlie Beach so it's really a place where you could get groceries from Coles and whip up a meal. Like most reviewers mentioned, Aidan gives very good recommendations on places to visit in Port Douglas / Cape Trib. We basically just took a paper map and visited all the places that he circled! Overall a great place to stay with good hosts and if you want to cook and dine in!

« Great stay in Port Douglas! »

We spent almost 4 weeks in Australia, driving from Sydney to Port Douglas and stayed in 10 different hotels. The Lazy Lizard was our favorite of all! Upon check-in. the owner gave us tons of info about the town, restaurant choices, how far to walk to CBD or beach, what to do in the area. They will book trips for you but he already knew we had pre-booked or were doing trips on our own and was still just as helpful. The room was quiet, very clean and had a kitchen with bathtub and shower. Ample parking and a delightful, shady, small pool area. Just a 10 minute walk to 4-Mile Beach and maybe 20-25 to CBD or the marina. This is a wonderful place to stay if you appreciate being away from busy central area yet close to the incredible beach. Great value for your dollars spent!

« Spacious, clean, well equipped rooms »

Nice place to stay. Short walk to the beach. Is a long walk into main area of Port Douglas so better to drive, but it is nice to be out of the hustle and bustle. Everything you need in the units. Very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Great local knowledge from the owners too

    « Relaxing and Tranquil »

If you want peace and quiet in clean and tropical surrounds go the The Lazy Lizard. Yes a little away from the CBD but it's only 20 minute walk. And a nice walk at that. Unit was clean large airy, good sizes bathroom with a bath which was a nice surprise. Undercover parking. Kitchen was well equipped. Only complaint was that the bed a little too firm for me, but hey I still slept well.

    « Good hotel »

Aiden and Alex are brilliant hosts. The room was a good size with good kitchen facilities and luckily had a bath as well as a shower. The room was comfortable and felt very safe and secure which was important for me as a woman on my own. It's not posh but I found it excellent value for money and in a convenient location within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and bars. I'd definitely stay there again and recommend it to others.

« Great value, clean, friendly, convenient. Would return if in Port Douglas »

Arrived yesterday after a long day of travel. Easy to find. As we pulled into lot I began thinking this would be a nice place to sleep. The flora around the hotel is tastefully groomed and relaxing. At check-in I explained we would have one extra adult with us for the night, and although sold out, we were given a family room (with a queen and two twins) in place of out standard room. Everything is clean, well maintained and the desk very friendly. Wifi is strong. This is a solid, economy tourist hotel. Not luxurious, and not a lot of amenities (however the I room boiler and tea / biscuits) were perfect after our drive up. A good value and peace of mind.

« Very happy with our choice »

Very good motor inn. We parked the car , checked in and unloaded our cases. The room was big and comfortable, tv, good bathroom , good toiletries, through the little window in the bathroom you could hear all the birds singing. So nice. The shower was excellent and plenty of good quality towels. The bedroom had a fridge, toaster , kettle so you could prepare a snack if you wanted, very convenient if you had children. There was a small swimming pool , at the entrance with an open shower so you could pop in after coming from the beach. You could prepare a bbq as well. The beach was within walking distance and it was beautiful. You could walk to town as well. A car is quite necessary. We loved the place, very relaxing and the owners were very helpful with sending us to the right places. All in all a great stay. The motor inn is almost always fully booked. It does not surprise me as it is very good and reasonably priced. One needs to book well in advance. Love to go back one day. Shame that it is such a long way from England. Free Wi-Fi as well.

« Not flashy but you won't be disappointed »

Five nights at the Lazy Lizard gave us a solid, and favorable, impression of the facility, location, and staff. Adian and Alex who manage are extraordinarily friendly and seemed genuinely interested in our stay in Port Douglas. Good on ya, mates! The location is right on a frontage road along the main two lane road into town. The 'center of the universe' of Port Douglas, Macrossant Street, is just two minutes by car and can even be walked. A different route goes nearly directly to the piers where the GBR tours begin. We were picked up at the Lizard by both Wavelength and Calypso shuttles for their snorkeling tours and we were the stop closest to the piers. LOFO A 1K walk gets you to the nicest beach we've ever visited, Four Mile Beach. The weather was warm, the water like a bath, and the stingers and tourists had not arrived. It was a piece of heaven. The room itself was clean and outfitted with a kitchenette. Not fancy but quite servicable. Beach towels were readily privided by the office and the pool was pleasant as well. Each room has a small patio and parking right at the door. The only down side is that the patios, while separated by dividers, are side-by-side so depending upon the neighbors there may be some chatter and cigarette smoke. We were never home. Taking the route toward the piers we found the backside of the business center where it was easy to park and get to the resturants and Coles for groceries. Again, its not a fancy place but the value was good, the location teriffic, and the staff very helpful and friendly. We would return here in a heart beat.

« We would absolutely stay here again - great value, lovely rooms »

The room was clean and spacious, and the price was excellent value for money. We had a very comfortable and relaxing time here. It's about a 10 minute walk to the beach and 25 to the main area of town with all the shops and restaurants. They also have bikes available for guests to use, and the area seemed quite bike friendly. The staff was warm and welcoming, and they gave us helpful advice on restaurants and activities. We would absolutely stay here again if we return to Port Douglas and would recommend it to friends.

« Basic, clean and good for families »

With delightful new owners who are friendly and keen to assist with any queries or bookings, the motel is a good, inexpensive option in Port Douglas. Very basic but clean - a bonus was the free WiFi and beach/pool towels at no extra cost. A guest laundry is also available at a reasonable price. The pool is small but pleasant to dip into and the nearby BBQ facility makes cooking possible, if that is desired. It is a little out of the main area of Port Douglas (15-20min walk, otherwise bike or car) but it is possible to access the gorgeous beach via a walkway from the main road without needing to walk all the way into Macrossan Street.

« Great value and very nice rooms »

This was a very nice hotel for this price range. The room was spacious and well equipped with a kitchenette, as well as a separate tub and shower. The room was very clean and comfortable. The gentleman who checked us in was quite friendly and offered us useful info on Port Douglas without us even asking. The hotel is about a 20 minute walk from the town center. Not a problem for us, just FYI. The drive to town is quick and parking is free everywhere. The only con: The rooms have sliding doors with screens which open to a small patio with chairs; we had a group sitting outside talking until late into the night. They weren't rowdy, but the sound seemed to carry easily. Not a huge problem, and in warmer months, the a/c would drown this out. Overall, we were very happy and thought this was the best hotel we stayed in during our trip through Australia. Unfortunately it was only one night!

    « Holiday Heaven »

When my sister booked this holiday for me I was the one to pick the accommodation. I picked the Lazy Lizard because it had one of the highest ratings on Trip Advisor. Aiden and Alex are the best hosts i have ever met ...chatty ,friendly and helpful they make your stay a delight. The rooms are nice, clean and have a balanced decor. They have everything you need including a kitchenette, so you can prepare basic meals. They provided tea, coffee and cute little biscuits everyday . DON'T take towels with you as they not only provide towels for the unit but for swimming and going out on the reef and these can be laundered for you free of charge . There is a laundry there for your everyday washing or for an extra charge this can be done for you . I loved having a house keeper come in daily , I wished i could have taken her home with me. The air con worked brilliantly which was a bonus for my husband and we found the unit quiet even though holiday time was upon us. There is a BBQ (beside the pool) with everything needed to cook up some seafood that you can purchase locally off the trawler at the Marina on the weekend. There is also free bicycles that you can take out and if you know Port Douglas , people are cycling everywhere so that is a free activity to take advantage of...the only downside was i needed to stay a week longer!! P.S Rooms have free WIFI

We canceled at the QT Port Douglas to come here. Less than half the price, and rooms are just as nice! Rooms are spacious, kitchen has all the amenities, including a toaster. Comfortable, clean, management is great and friendly staff. Internet is very good--fast, and not spotty like other places.
