« Some lovely pluses, terrific location, can be very noisy »

Over a year before our Thanksgiving-week trip to Philadelphia I had done my research and determined this would be the best choice for my family; I made our reservations fifty weeks in advance (literally the day the window opened for the week we were to go). Somehow our reservation got messed up in Best Western's computer system and no one seemed to care. Except for me, that is. By the time I realized what had happened it was too late to find someplace else to stay, so I decided to put on my game face so as to not negatively influence our children. But I was ticked by the (lack of helpful) reaction from staff / management when I reached out to them to help figure this out and rectify it. We have a medically fragile child in a wheelchair, and I had requested a quiet room for him. The room we had (ending in -01) was right next to the elevator, which was super handy for the wheelchair and luggage, but that means we also got to hear the people waiting for the elevator. Six of one, half a dozen of the other, right. The rooms ending -02 and -03 also get to hear elevator traffic. Only the rooms -01 and -02 face the street, and even though we were high up and the windows are double glazed it was painfully noisy. I believe rooms ending -03 though -07 all face an interior courtyard, so while not a pretty, interesting view they are most likely quieter. They are building the Museum of the American Revolution literally across the street, which will be a fantastic boon but in the meanwhile as they started construction before 8am it was also not welcome. FYI the Customs House is just to the east, and it is a beautiful, tall building and beacon as you are walking toward the hotel. Additionally, evidently every single year the week of Thanksgiving this hotel plays host to a large group of fourth graders, who, as a large group of children naturally will (and should) be, VERY LOUD. VERY VERY LOUD. The kids did nothing wrong -- little children (and big, too) when in such a large mass will be loud. However, the hotel should make a point of letting the guests know beforehand and at the least during check-in: "just so you know, this Tuesday - Wednesday we'll have thirty nine year-olds here and they can be really noisy." Then lower the cost of our rooms for that night, because we already paid a premium for a holiday week! But neither of those were done .... But that would be the right thing to do, yes? We found the ladies who work there to be as lovely as could be, especially the ladies in the breakfast room and the cleaning ladies. For our medically fragile child we travel with a lot of medical equipment, and the cleaning ladies were so careful about it, and so sweet to our little boy. Loved them! One of the front desk ladies, Lynn, was also an absolute charmer. The men we encountered were neither friendly nor helpful, and actually more than once my husband and I felt as if they deliberately gave us misinformation. Weird. Breakfast: that is partly what makes this hotel an absolute steal (besides the fantastic location, character, and lobby amenities): it is a full breakfast, with Liberty Bell waffles (the texture was very eggy and light, more like a Dutch Baby), scrambled eggs, bacon + sausage on one day, and biscuits and sausage gravy on alternating days. Yogurt, cheese, fruit, cereal, oatmeal, coffees, teas, cocoa, juices rounds it out -- lots of food! And seriously, the ladies working in there could not have been sweeter, friendlier -- lovely faces to start the day. In the lobby there is always coffee, hot water, tea bags, etc., and hot apple cider which smells like heaven! In the afternoons they also lay out cookies, which is a nice little pick-me-up. Wednesday afternoon there were some wines (I don't drink so didn't pay attention), and trays abundantly filled with cheeses, crackers, strawberries and grapes. What a wonderful treat! The rooms are a good size (we had a room with two queen beds), especially considering the age of the building), and the bathroom had a huge counter (which is great for a family of four to have plenty of room to put their stuff). The hot water was instant and plentiful. The mattresses were very, very soft (we are a firm mattress family so really felt it). Another perk is a good-size mini-fridge (empty) and a microwave, so if you have leftovers (as we always did) we could bring them back and know they were safely cooled. You cannot beat the location (three blocks from Independence Park, on the same street as Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell), and there were lots of darling cafes / restaus either next door or up 3rd or 2nd Streets, including lots of vegetarian / vegan options. We appreciated that! Buses are frequent and plentiful down Chestnut (the street on which the hotel is located) and Market (a block north), plus the metro runs on Market with an Accessible stop at 2nd (there are elevators to take down). We either walked or used public transportation to get everywhere we wanted; granted, we love walking (and averaged about five miles each day), but we also totally took advantage of the bus and metro. We popped up to Chinatown and also over toward Frankford (for rock climbing). Anyway, I would recommend with the above caveats. I know that because of the breakfast and free wifi we came out ahead cost-wise. I also know that the ladies I mentioned were just lovely and they made for a cosy, friendly experience. But it's only fair to say that when I repeatedly asked for help from management before our visit it was neither available nor forthcoming. And it's fair to say that the hotel did not inform any of us of the upcoming noisy change.

    « Veteran's Day Weekend 2016 »

A very good choice for Old Town Philadelphia. The Independence Park Hotel is in a great location just across the street from the new Museum of The American Revolution. It is walking distance to everything in Old Town. The hotel itself is in a historic building and is very charming. The lobby interior consists of a comfortable sitting area with a gas fireplace and all-day coffee, tea and hot apple cider. A staircase in the lobby takes you downstairs to the breakfast area which is under a large glass ceiling which makes the breakfast area bright and cheerful. Making your own Liberty Bell waffles is a fun part of breakfast which is included in your hotel stay. My wife and I had fun making our waffles each morning and if you have children they will probably have fun too. The staff were very helpful and polite. My wife and I would definitely stay here again when sightseeing in Old Town.

« Hidden Gem of the City: Don't forget Coupon for City Tavern too! »

This is, and has been, for the many times I've visited, hands down one of the hidden gems in Phili. Starting with Adam Munro, manager, all the way around the hotel, the staff are wonderful, supportive, pleasant and kind. Love the warm cider set up in the lobby and the cocktail wine and cheese parties. The Complimentary breakfast is great in that it's varied enough for certain allergies -- gluten, lactose, etc. The location is central to lots of great stuff to do. And it's right around the corner from the City Tavern -- for which the hotel has bYOB entree coupons! Can't go wrong here!

    « Wonderful and welcoming »

We came to Philadelphia for a wedding, and from the very beginning, before we got there, we were emailed a parking "permit, " welcomed when we arrived, our room was ready, so we were able to drop bags, and everyone on staff was warm and friendly. Breakfast (complimentary) was delicious, warm cider in the lobby refreshing, and checkout was quick. I want to go back to this charming historic building, and stay again.

    « Great hotel and super-friendly service »

As a suburbanite, we had "reservations" about staying at an inner city hotel with no parking. The accommodations and staff were terrific. They had provisions for checking in and out, the garage they use is not far, and the parking rate was reasonable. Location is super; once there, you do not need your car. Building is old but totally updated without losing the historic charm. Rooms were large and AC worked well. Love the high ceilings. Staff was very friendly and helpful top to bottom.

« Great hotel in a great city! »

We loved our stay in the Best Western! Our room was cozy and well laid out with a wonderfully comfortable bed. The hotel is centrally located amid the many historic attractions of Old Town. The rest of the city is within easy walking distance. There are excellent restaurants of every type within blocks of the hotel. Every staff member that we met was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was wonderful with a wide range of choices. The warm cookies offered daily were a delightful and welcome touch. I would highly recommend this hotel!

« Great location in old part of town. »

The location was great for walking to the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. We could walk to get food and some shopping. The hotel clerks were great. They were helpful with information, always polite and courteous. The parking in front of the hotel was a challenge but I would stay there again. Nice atmosphere and the free breakfast was very good.

« Great Place to Stay »

Staff is very friendly and helpful. Great location, close to everything and in a great historic district of the city. They had a great range of foods for breakfast and everything was fresh and hot. The room was kind of small and the bed definitely wasn't a queen but for the little time spent in the room, it didn't really matter. Definitely would stay here again!

    « Outstanding service »

The staff members were amazing. At one point, I asked the front desk manager for directions to a local restaurant. She reminded me that is was 7:00 Friday night and it was Veterans day. She then called the restaurant and asked them to hold a table as a favor to her. When we arrived, the place was packed. When I told the reservations manager that we were the family from Best Western, they immediately sat us at the only open table. The staff was also very helpful in holding our bags before check in and arranging a cab. The whole experience at the Best Western was just perfect.

    « Birthday trip »

Flew in on Thursday and checked out Sunday. This hotel is right in the heart of all the great historical sights to see. We were able to walk to almost everything. The staff was extremely friendly and they provided us with great restaurant options The breakfast was alright but did have lots of options. I would recommend this as a great place to stay in the heart of ole town

« Excellent Service, Bug in the room »

The hotel itself was absolutely beautiful and Lynn at the front desk was more than anyone could ask for. She went out of her way to help with restaurant reservations. That being said I found a huge bug (silverfish) in the tub when I woke up in the morning, which left me hesitant for the next few nights.

« great location, amazing bed! »

Was a little nervous about staying at a best western ( usually stay at upscale properties) well was I surprised!!!! This fairly upscale hotel was in a great location to walk to restaurants, shops and bars. Bed was really comfy - hotel nicely appointed with a decidedly "inn" type feel. Employees were exceptionally nice and my husband and I were greeted with a smile by everyone we came in contact with!Room was a bit small but with the high ceilings we did not feel crammed in ( although it was over night... may have been a bit different if it was a longer stay) Had a bit of trouble with shower- water went all over floor no matter how conscientious we tried to be with curtain.

« Historical classy with a great location »

Great, great, great location just steps away from historical landmarks in a boheme part of town. Well preserved property with nice and classy rooms, although I would of have preferred a room with street view. Service is great, people at front desk are involved and show you that they care about you and your needs. Excellent!

« The best experince I have had at a hotel »

Beautiful hotel, great location for all the sites, staff were exceptional , helpful, friendly, attentive. I enjoyed thy Cookies and Hot tea every afternoon. The Breakfast was good with a lot of options

« Excellent hotel! Great location! »

I'm actually an event manager, and had a 360-person meeting at this property. It was a very complicated program, with a lot of changes and movements and logistics. This property absolutely NAILED it. They were accommodating, understanding, and hard working. They were flexible, and did an amazing job from planning to execution and beyond. I would recommend this property for any meeting planners and tourists/visitors alike... it is spectacular.

« No complaints about the room, but parking method is funky »

This hotel is in a great location. You are able to walk just about anywhere you'd want to go. The rooms are nice with a colonial feel. Beds are comfy and breakfast was great. The rooms were actually pretty quiet which surprised us for such an old building. We've stayed in other "historic" buildings where you have heard everything in every room around you. We had no trouble getting into the loading zone in front of the hotel. But, they hand you a plastic card on a lanyard for parking (just a block away - very common for city hotels). Having to return the card caused some sequencing issues when it came time to check out. We wanted to just roll our luggage to our car and leave without the hassle of having to get to that loading zone again, but we had to come back to drop off the card anyway. It wasn't horrible, just inconvenient. Most places give you a paper card that you don't have to return when you exit the garage. However, it was nice to be able to have our luggage locked up at the hotel after we checked out so we could head to our tour rather than having to roll our luggage to our car to leave it. You can stay in the garage until 1:30 after check-out. You can leave your car longer, but you're on the clock after that. If I were to return to Philadelphia, I'd definitely stay here again.

« Location was great; Parking was a hassle..... »

The hotel was built in 1856, and was very charming, clean, and comfortable. The building is narrow, but our double-queen room was spacious and the beds were heavenly-comfortable! Great room, and there was an elevator and continental breakfast every morning, which also added to the plusses! Also, a knowledgeable and friendly staff, that were always pleasant and helpful, especially when asking where to eat. Location is excellent! Not living in the city, we are not used to walking all over to get to places, but we were just fine walking to all the historic neighborhood sites - Betsy Ross house, Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and so many others that are right there. On every block is your pick of eateries and ice cream shops, and anything else you could want or need is a short walk away. You are also very close to the water, which we never got around to walking down by....Also, they lock the doors at night, which gave me peace of mind, so you have to use your room key to get back in. So you get all that for a very reasonable price. The disappointment came in the parking situation. When you arrive, there are two parking spaces in front of the hotel, and you have to be in the rectangle exactly, or else you can be ticketed 6 different ways, according to the staff. And the streets are nearly always full, so parallel parking into this little rectangle is no treat. Then you have to lift your luggage up the couple of steps one by one, to load onto the one little cart they have. You end up parking 3 blocks away in a parking garage, which opens up into complete darkness at night, on a side street. I didn't feel uncomfortable being in the neighborhood of my hotel, but I did feel uneasy whenever we went to and from the car after dark b/c it was such a dark, quiet area that you enter it from.....There are no shuttles and also no laundry service or facilities. My bf hated that there was no valet or anyone to help us with all the luggage, after a long roadtrip there, and after walking all over the city for 3 days. So it's something to consider. Overall, I was pleased with the hotel itself and the people that worked there, but I'd pay extra to not have to deal with the parking and luggage.

« A gem in the heart of the historic district. »

This small hotel is right in the heart of the historic district. It's architecture and decor blend well with the area. You can easily walk to almost all the major tourist sights and there are numerous restaurants of all types nearby. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and professional. The hotel was a haven of quiet and calm during our three days of sightseeing in Philadelphia.

« Excellent stay in Philly »

Great location- staff is super friendly and helpful. Breakfast is worth the stay itself- Natalia and crew do a lovely job for the breakfast. No complaints at all. We walked to most of the tourist stops and it is no problem at all from the hotel. Rooms clean and well ordered

« Amazing Location, Great Staff »

First, this hotel is right in the middle of the action. There is little of the Old City you cannot reach via a short walk from this hotel. We were within blocks of the National Constitution Center, Independence Hall, The Liberty Bell, the 1st & 2nd Banks, the Benjamin Franklin Museum & Post Office, Christ Church, etc. There are also many restaurants & bars in the immediate vicinity as well (including an amazing Pizzeria and Gellato next door). Parking is in a structure only a block or two away at $17/night. Additionally, you receive a 30 minute loading zone parking pass via email from the hotel for loading/unloading on arrival so you don't have to haul luggage on cobblestone streets. The staff here is great and professional. The rooms are small, but very comfortable. Ours overlooked the courtyard so it was very quiet. The only cons are the elevator is a little slow and the breakfast is nothing special, but for the price you cannot beat this hotel for a stay in Philadelphia.

    « Nice Location »

A great location and great value. The rooms have high ceilings and appear old but you can tell they have been updated. Everything was clean and nice. Breakfast is a general breakfast. Parking is a few blocks away and is expected for city parking.

    « Conference in town »

Great location and friendly staff. Rooms were a bit dates, but clean and acceptable. My first floor room overlooked the center of hotel and it was difficult to block out the constant lights at night. Good think I travel with a sleep mask. Front desk staff were all extremely kind & genuine..

    5
    « Great hotel »

The hotel is in a great position for the historic sites and only a few blocks from the transport system. The hotel was clean, the staff were very helpful and pleasant and the breakfast offered a variety of food for the start of the day. The room was a good size which was clean and maintained every day to a high standard.

« So glad to return... »

The staff and setting of this hotel, make it as wonderful as I recall. This visit greeted us with warm apple cider in addition to tea and cookies, which were a wonderful contrast to the damp stormy weather outside. I had forgotten the beauty of the vaulted ceilings...this is definitely a gem of olde city!

    « Perfect Locaton »

Could not have found a better located hotel for our visit to colonial Philadelphia!! Parking garage also provided just what we needed though we did not move the car until leaving. Very low rate! Breakfast was wonderful and provided a great variety of both hot and cold choices. Room was comfortable and QUIET! Just a great hotel to enjoy old Philadelphia with all the historically significant buildings and monuments.

    5
« FRIENDLINESS STAFF I HAVE EVER SEEN »

I would stay at no other hotel when in Philadelphia. I am 61 years old and have stayed in hotels all over the world and, without question, I have never seen such a friendly and helpful staff. Room was extremely clean, cleaning staff always checked to make sure everything was OK and the front desk even gave us a "to go" bag for a light breakfast snack because we departed so early. Breakfast was a nice start to the day and they have cookies, cider, and wine and cheese socials during the day. Located in historic Philadelphia and close to all major historic attractions.

    4
    « Consistently Good! »

This was the second time I stayed at the Best Western Independence Park Hotel and I was very pleased. The room is very nice and very clean, especially for such a historic building. The continental breakfast in the morning is top notch! Overall I had a really good stay and I would recommend them highly...especially because they are located so close to many historic landmarks in Philly.

    5
    « Wonderful stay »

We stayed here during our first trip to Philadelphia. The hotel is small, which I like a lot. The staff is over the top in their attention to guests. The breakfast was wonderful each morning we were there. I had liberty bell waffles each day along with their other breakfast offerings. They even had freshly baked warm cookies at the front desk when you came in for a day of touring. Lovely hotel and even lovelier employees.

    5
« Great location, love the historic atmosphere »

We chose the hotel because of its proximity to old town. Were pleasantly surprised by the size of the room and especially the bathroom. The staff could not have been more helpful and the breakfast staff do an outstanding job. We liked being able to walk to all the sites and eat locally without having to cab anywhere. The cookies and tea in the afternoons were a refreshing break and on Wednesday evening there was wine and cheese - unexpected but appreciated! Our bed was very comfortable as were the pillows. We will definitely book again.

    4
« Fantastic location, beautiful hotel! »

This hotel is perfectly located close to all the best sites, and the rooms are lovely. The breakfast is standard for Best Western, but it is served in an especially nice dining room and the attendants keep it stocked. Liberty Bell waffles are a nice touch!

« Great location, tight spaces »

Stayed with family (husband & 2 kids) for a family wedding. Chose this hotel primarily due to location so kids could experience Independence park etc. Staff was very friendly, but limited - no porter to help with bags or call cab, etc. Also room (2 Q beds) had definite size limitations. Bathroom also very small. Daily breakfast was a bit limited but fine. (dining space also very small for guests). Not sure I would stay again.

    4
« Good but little bit expensive »

The hotel sits in a central place. We've got our room only on 15:00 after a long way - they told us they where fully booked day day before but even so I think the could make an effort and arrange the room cleaning faster (although the max check in time as said in advance is 15:00. But....) Room was gust fine. Bed was really comfortable. Breakfast was good. at the evening there was a cease and wine evening. The parking is quit in a distance and coat a 17$/day. all in all the room price was high and inclosed parking and tax in quit expensive.

    5
    « A very warm experience »

If I ever return to Philly, I'll stay here. It is located smack-dab in the middle of Old City and most of the historical sites you'll want to visit. Also close to some excellent restaurants. My two friends and I walked everyway--except using the Phlash bus to get to the Art Museum. Great Neapolitan pizza, wine, beer and gelato right next door. This is a fine facility.

    3
    « Good value »

In Philly to attend a wedding. The hotel was in the historical section very convenient to where the reception was. Parking was reasonable at $17. Rooms clean but small, staff was extremely helpful and nice.

    4
« Good location, great staff! »

This hotel - although a little dated in its decor - is comfortable and close to many sites of historical significance. The receptionist is a gem - so pleasant and helpful - nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast is of a reasonable standard. Our room was comfortable but dated and a little gloomy but for a three day stop over on our tour this establishment is ok.

    5
    « Great Location »

The location is great for seeing all of the sites in the historic area of Philadelphia, and most are within walking distance of the hotel. Our room was extremely clean, and the beds are of superior quality. The staff was friendly and very helpful, and the included breakfast was excellent with many choices.

    5
    « comfortable and convenient »

The room, the staff and the breakfast first rate. Cookies everyday. The location close and walkable to many historic sights and restaurants with excellent public bus and subway access within a block or two.

« Great Stay in Philadelphia »

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel in Philadelphia. Location was perfect, right in the historical area. We walked everywhere! Also lots of restaurants to choose from in the area. Service at the hotel was great from Sagal who gave us lots of tips to get around the city to the ladies that cleaned our room, and the ladies in the Breakfast room. Will certainly recommend this hotel to friends and family.

    « Philadelphia »

Awesome boutique hotel in a fabulous location for sight seeing. Located in the old quarter all sights are easily accessible by foot saving heaps of time. Parking is close by and the loading bay directly outside the entrance makes booking in and out easy. The waffles are a delight.

« An excellent three day stay »

This property is the nations first historic boutique hotel. It is in a building that was used as a brewery during colonial times. It is now a beautifully kept historic building with all the modern amenities that one would expect of todays hotels. Check in was a breeze. But with historical restrictions, parking is not on site. You may park in front of the hotel for 30 minutes to unload baggage. Then you move your car to a garage located two or three blocks away. However, the hotel location is so convenient to many tourist sites, that you don't need the car often. Its only a two block walk to Independence Hall for example. And using the hotels recommendations we had an excellent meal every night within walking distance. As one might expect, colonial rooms were smaller, so the room is small and so is the bathroom. The beds were very comfortable and the towels and linins were of good size and quality. Finally, when is the last time you were served breakfast with linin table cloths, metal utensils and ceramic coffee mugs at a hotel breakfast? Overall, this is an excellent facility and excellent staff particularly the front desk and breakfast room staffs. If you are in Philly visiting the early American tourist sites, be sure to book a stay here. It definitely adds to the colonial experience.

    « Wonderful! »

Great hotel in a great location! Walking distance to everything, including great food. Front desk (especially Lynn) a great help in recommending restaurant - one of best meals of our entire trip (over two weeks on the road). Really appreciated not having to drive Philadelphia!

    « Awesome Experience »

We stayed at this hotel for the first time last weekend and into this early this week and it was truly an awesome experience! The room was large and comfortable. The staff was extremely helpful, informative and pleasant. The hot breakfast was well above average and always well-replenished. This will be our address for any future visits to the City of Brotherly Love.

« Excellent location and friendly staff »

My husband and I stayed for two nights at the Best Western and were very pleased. The location in the Old City is near all the tourist attractions. The staff was very friendly and responsive to the requests/questions we had. The rooms are a little small, but have a fridge and microwave. Definitely a good place to stay in Phillie!

    « Great Stay »

The staff was extremely pleasant & helpful. The continental breakfast had good variety and offered options for health allergies. The room was very nice and clean. Parking was right down the block. Having to stop at the hotel to get a parking pass and return it was a little cumbersome & difficult depending on parking & traffic. Easy access to the Old City tourist destinations. Overall a wonderful trip.

« Wish I could have stayed longer »

After staying at this hotel, I regreted only being able to stay one night. Everything was so great I wish I could have stayed longer. I had a great check in process and lovely night's sleep in a very nice hotel room. Woke up to enjoy an astonishing complimentary breakfast with a very enjoyable staff. They get to know you very well and make you feel like family. I enjoyed the company from the breakfast staff as I was staying there alone it was nice to have someone to talk to instead of feeling like I was eating by myself. I was even told to try Jim's steaks on the Famous South Street for a traditional South Philadelphia cheese steak from Arial before I left for my meeting. The front desk was very helpful with directions for getting around the city. They even had fresh baked cookies on my way out and who doesn't love cookies. Thank you for a wonderful stay I will be rebooking this hotel for a vacation with my family. I sent my wife a picture of the one of a kind Liberty Bell Best Western waffles and she is excited to try them in the near future.

« Modern comfort in historical setting »

The hotel is the best location for visiting Olde City Philadelphia and it is located in an older renovated building... The historical features (curved stairway into lobby and the facade) add character and charm. The included hot breakfast served in a bright atrium was more than substantial and the staff was very welcoming and personable.

« Great Hotel I would for sure stay again »

My hotel experience here was everything promised and more. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The hotel itself was very pretty, clean, inviting and top notch. I highly recommend it. Rooms were big and comfortable. The room was nice and quiet. This hotel is also so close to everything and getting around was very easy. I also was able to either get a cab or walk to where I needed to go. Thank you so much !

Comfortable bed, spotless room, quiet, great breakfast! The staff was very helpful and the parking was close and convenient. The location is close to historical sites in Old City. We would choose this hotel again in a heartbeat!

« Great value and service »

Great historic building. Our room was immaculate. The breakfast is good. The location is great! It is within a few blocks of all the historic sites in the city. On Wednesday night, they have wine and cheese - which is very nice. Elizabeth, the sales manager, is hostess and is very nice. Lynn, in the front office, is great. She knows pretty much everything and could not be more professional. I highly recommend this hotel.

« Lovely hotel in a fabulous location! »

Everything about our one-night stay at the Independence Park Hotel was wonderful. From check-in to check-out and everything in between, the staff and the facilities were nothing short of perfect. We had a huge, quiet room on the top floor (elevator was quick and quiet), overlooking the street. It was beautifully furnished, and the only negative thing was the fan in the bathroom, that made a lot of noise. They had TV channels galore, and very strong wifi. The cookies and tea in the afternoon and the special Wednesday-only evening reception with wine and cheese and fruit was great. The hotel is very convenient to the metro and to bus lines, and lies literally in the historic area. Lynn, one of the managers, somehow worked magic to get us in to Amata's restaurant, just a few doors down the street for a great tapas evening. We will definitely be returning, if only for their wonderful breakfast!

    « Historic hotel! »

Loved our stay at the Best Western Independence Park. I think they said the building was built in the 1850's and used to be a doll factory. Very historic and elegant building to spend the night in. Parking was a pain because there is only limited spots in front of the hotel and you need to check in quickly and then move your car around the block to a parking garage. There is construction going on next door to the hotel so quite a lot of noise going on in the morning to wake everyone up. Room was nice and looked clean but the bathroom was a bit dated. Staff at front desk were extremely helpful and friendly. Location was incredible...close to so much! Free breakfast was delicious! There is a waffle machine that makes great waffles! Whipped cream to put on top too! When you check in they have lemon water and coffee available and they even handed out cookies. Great hotel with a great location.

    « Amazing staff! »

If not for a very special breakfast employee at the Best Western Independent Park hotel, I would have never had the chance to enjoy the most DELICIOUSLY AMAZING canolli in my life! I used to live in South Philadelphia over 40 years ago and the young lady working encouraged me to try a few local places. The staff was beyond excellent; very engaging and made be feel very confortable while I ate my meal. Thank you for the experience.

« Perfect location for sightseeing...... »

I travel to PA regularly for business but had not visited downtown Philly. Was a bit sceptic about staying at a Best Western but this one was great. Fabulous location for seeing all the cultural sights - Court house,Liberty Bell,Station (good food options) and the Art museums. All within walking distance. Reception were very welcoming. Room was okay, a bit noisy at night but nothing that was a major problem. Breakfast was a good buffet selection. For the price & location this hotel was a good option.

    « Location, location, location! »

This hotel is in a perfect location for visiting downtown Philadelphia and Independence Park. The staff is nice and they have a decent breakfast. We enjoyed making chocolate waffles with the liberty bell on them as a treat for breakfast. My husband was able to walk to the visitor center in the morning to get tickets for Independence Hall. We drove and it was a challenge loading/unloading the car. There is only a small parking spot out front to use. If multiple people are checking in at the same time it is difficult. The parking is expensive (like any big city) but they do have a designated garage a few blocks away. Just don't forget anything in the car! Overall this is a great little spot to stay in Philadelphia.

    « Great little hotel »

Great hotel in a top location close to all major historical sights. The parking was a bit complicated as you had to pick up a pass and then drive to a car park one block away but it was good value. Room was a good size and very clean. We stayed on a Wednesday and there was free cheese and wine in the evening which was really nice. The breakfast had good variety and was free. Would recommend this hotel.

    « problems with parking, »

Good location but parking is awful. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is only minutes from independence hall etc. There was construction across from our room so we heard noises early and late. If we had a room farther away from the construction it would have helped a lot.

    « Great Stay »

Loved the hotel, services was great with a friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is in a great location near the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and all of Old Town. Because it is small the staff can service you better. Comfortable and historic.

« Excellent visit! You can't go wrong staying here »

We stayed here for the Jimmy Buffet concert in Camden, NJ. Julian immediately welcomed us and made us feel at home. He answered all of our questions and went above and beyond to help us. The hotel is charming and very clean. We took the river fairy to the concert which was a great way to go. Everyone who worked at this hotel was great! Would highly recommend this hotel.

« Last city on our roadtrip »

We stayed here for 1 night at the end of our USA road trip. The hotel is old but very well kept with furnishings that are right for the building. We had a nice room on the second floor but it overlooked the construction across the road so was a little noisy but not enough to spoil the stay. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice and we were fortunate enough to be there for the cheese and wine reception. There are lots of bars and restaurants and it was lovely being right in the centre of the old town. Very close to the liberty bell, independence hall and penns landing. No parking onsite which was a slight pain but the car park was only around the corner. I recommend this hotel.

« Great location, good value and great staff »

Well situated, within walking distance to major sites, good value and great staff. Our stay started out well when we received an email the day before from the hotel with a loading area pass and instructions on its use. Car parking was available in a lot a couple of blocks away with in and out privileges. This was the first indication of the hotel's desire that their clients have a good experience. And the staff made sure that the good experiences continued. The hotel itself was very well maintained with a nice sized room, very comfortable bed and pillows and quiet/effective AC (in cooler weather you could open the windows). We had a room on Chestnut Street so some construction noise from across the street but the hotel tried to lessen the noise by keeping curtains closed and even providing a white noise generator to help mask the sounds. The room rate included a hot breakfast and afternoon tea with cookies, a nice touch. Location wise the hotel is perfectly situated with only a short walk to the Liberty Bell and the Penn Pier on the river. The staff was very friendly, efficient, helpful and offered to suggest restaurants and make reservations, which was useful given the large number of interesting restaurants in the area. Great location, accommodation and staff! We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

« Trip to view historic Philly »

Excellent hotel within easy walking distance to all the historic sites. The room was small but nice. The only problem I had...with a bad back, the mattress was too soft. Not sure if a hard mattress is an option.

    « Stop shopping....make your reservations!!!! »

Quit your looking around at other hotels in/around Philadelphia and make your reservations before the 36 rooms in this smaller hotel are booked. You simply cannot beat the value, location and hospitality you'll find here. Add in a staff that truly wants your stay to be perfect, and you'll wonder why you wasted time shopping. Give this place a 6 star. Go directly to their website...independenceparkhotel.com for the best details of their offerings.

    « Perfect »

Almost everything was perfect - the location, in the heart of Old City, right next to restaurants, bars, even a deli, and most importantly - the Independence Hall. Perfect spot to start your visit. The staff was very helpful, polite and can't single out any exceptional employee because everybody was exceptional :) The breakfasts were very good. The only thing I would like to point out is that there is no in-room safe if that's important to you. When I booked it the description said I would have it but nope, it's not there. Very minor inconvenience though, especially since they have a safe downstairs.

« A pleasant place to stay in the busy city »

We were looking for a place close the historical attractions associated with Independence mall. This hotel is quite charming with relatively few rooms, but with all of them thankfully not of the cookie cutter variety one always gets at chain hotels. Our room was 504. It is not overly large, but it has all of the necessities including a writing table, a sitting area and a small refrigerator. The hotel is quiet and comfortable ... the bed was fantastic. Wifi is fast and easy to use. The complimentary breakfast is both varied and quite good. The "famous" waffles are as good as advertised! The best part, though, is the staff. They are very friendly and knowledgable and will spend time talking with you - you actually get to know them. This was a fantastic place to have as a respite from the long days of sight seeing and eating. The lack of a bar is not noticeable ... if that is what you need to relax before bed, there are numerous pubs and bars close by. I will stay here anytime I venture back to this wonderful city.

« Great location and outstanding service »

We had an excellent 3 night stay at this old hotel right in the center of Old City. Our room was spacious for a boutique hotel and well appointed. There was construction going on across the street from the hotel, but since we were gone most of the day, that did not bother us, and the hotel provided a white noise machine to drown out the noise. Lynn who functioned as a front desk reception person and a concierge was just outstanding. She was the most helpful staff person I have encountered in my many travels. The breakfast was very good. A nice variety and the waffles were outstanding. If you are interested in our nations history this is a great location convenient to all the major historical sites.

    « Perfect Location/Great Place »

excellent breakfast, afternoon cookies, large clean and comfy room. And perfectly located near Penns Landing and Independence Hall, and all the favorite sights of a great city to visit. And a great discount on parking 1/2 block away in parking garage. There really is no downside to this hotel. I stay in the area 2-3 times a year, and this is the only hotel I would consider.

« Very nice hotel in the heart of the historic district »

Stayed here because of the wonderful reviews from Trip Advisor. It is a wonderful, comfortable and very convenient to all the historic sites! The staff was fabulous! Everyone was so friendly, knowledgeable and went out of their way to meet all your needs! We arrived 20 minutes after the complementary afternoon tea and cookies. When I asked the evening check in lady about it, she brought out a selection of cookies! They also have a near by parking garage for the car . My kind of hotel!

« Wonderful Hotel in DC's Historical District »

Way better than the normal Best Western cookie cutter hotel. This hotel, on the Historical Register, has great staff, comfortable rooms, and an overall pleasant atmosphere. It is fairly priced, clean and providesa substantial breakfast. Parking is provided for a discounted price at a nearbt garage. The location is excellent and is within walking distance to the Independence National Park sites and many restaurants and other entertainment

    « Great hotel - Great location. »

We spent one night here so we could visit the nearby sites. The room was excellent and bathrooms were clean. Room has a refrigerator (good for storing bottled water). Slept good on the bed. The lobby was interesting. I liked the added service of lemon/lime water in the lobby as it was really hot outside when we were there. Breakfast was very good. OK, it is a tad bit expensive here but when you compare with other places and the fact that it is in an ideal location, the value/price is about the same as other comparable places. Good thing I made the reservation many months in advance as we got out of there just as the Democrats were coming in.

    « More than 5 stars »

It was dumb luck we stumbled upon this hotel. My husband and I were going to a concert at BB&T pavilion. We just needed a place to sleep that night so we didn't have to drive the hour and a half home afterwards, so we were looking for something close at a decent price and this fit the bill. It's in walking distance to the ferry that takes you to the pavilion and half the price of some other hotels in the area. It doesn't look like anything special from the outside, but we were just looking for convenience. They also offer parking, which is a bonus, since parking in Philadelphia can be a nightmare. Walking in, it's beautifully decorated. They were able to preserve the historic look and feel, with modern conveniences. The room was average size. It was clean and the bed comfortable. They also offer a full breakfast. Location doesn't get more convenient. It's in the middle of plenty of bars and shopping and restaurants. This city definitely doesn't sleep. It's a few blocks from Penn's Landing, which is worth hanging out at for a fun weekend in itself. And though we didn't have the time, it's also walking distance to several museums and historical sites. You can't beat the price-- they offer a steep military discount on top of the already reasonable rates. But what truly sets this hotel apart is the staff. Everyone was friendly and greeted us with a smile. The front desk was knowledgeable and accomodating. Lynn really went above and beyond to ensure we had a good weekend. We really appreciate that. We plan on staying here in the future, just for the heck of it, whenever we feel the need for a weekend getaway. Thank you for a wonderful weekend. An extra special thank you to Lynn at the front desk!

« Quaint hotel close to everything »

I stayed here one night on a business layover. The hotel was very nice and decorated in a colonial style. Breakfast was good and room was comfortable although on the smaller side, but with these older buildings that's common. Would definitely stay again.

    « Awesome Hotel »

My husband and I just returned from a two night stay. This hotel is just a few blocks from anything you would want to visit in the historic district. Our room had lots of charm and was incredibly comfortable. Many places to eat are within walking distance. The breakfast and tea time (cookies included) are great. This hotel is a great value for the price.

« Great Hotel, Great Location at Independence Hall and soon to be the best location! »

Well, we just stayed again at this wonderful gem. It never ceases to amaze me, it just keeps getting better. The staff is the best (very well informed) and the rooms are spotless. The lobby is a wonderful area and great to just relax in after a walking tour of the historic area. During this visit I saw the magnificent structure directly across the street and asked what that beautiful building is. I learned that it's the new 140 million dollar, American Revolutionary Museum which opens in April 2017. WOW!!! I already made my next reservation and another for April 2017. Thank you Best Western! We love it here!!!

    « History Vacation »

Keep in mind this hotel is historic! It is located in walking distance to everything. The parking garage is offsite but you can unload at the front. Paying to park was a bummer. $20.50/day. The hotel elevator is small, but at least they have one! We saw a queen room which was very tiny. Enough room for the bed and limited walking. However the King suite is GORGEOUS! Large and inviting. We went for a vacation to independence hall, Benjamin Franklin Museum and other historic places. Great place to start. Just remember it is an older hotel. If you're looking for luxury, don't stay here, but if you are looking for somewhere to place your head while you tour all day long this place is it!! The front desk staff was FABULOUS!! I can't recall her name but she went over and above to accommodate us. We would definitely stay at again if we return. Check out City Tavern close by too for lunch/dinner.

    « class and character »

New five star hotels may have what some call class, but it comes at very high rates, and they have no history or character. This one has a great history, great rooms, great service, and great location, at reasonable prices. Right in the heart of historic old Philadelphia. Stay here. I'd do it again.

    5
« In heart of historic district »

It is located within a few blocks to major historic sites, Penns landing, Harborfront, and restaurants etc. Clean and inviting lobby, and rooms. There is ongoing outside construction noise early in the morning during the week. Very caring staff from the front desk to the cleaning, and breakfast folks. Breakfast is the usual Juice, yogurt, breads, mini muffins, cereal, scrambled eggs, hot sausages and/or bacon and the Liberty Bell wafflemaker in plain or chocolate. The queen beds were super comfy, just right! My wife wants one to replace our current bed.

    « Great Stay »

The hotel was very conveniently located to historic sites. The lobby is very pretty and comfortable to sit in. In the Lobby there is COLD lemon/lime water all afternoon and cookies later in the afternoon for guests. The rooms were clean and comfortable and quiet! Breakfast was great! We enjoyed the Liberty Bell waffles and other breakfast items. The Breakfast staff is very helpful and friendly. Would stay there again.

    « A Best Western Boutique! »

This was pleasant surprise as a BW hotel in the middle of Philadelphia, at 36 rooms in a renovated historical building it's every bit a comfortable short stay boutique hotel. Tall ceilings make the room feel bigger than it is but I've been in smaller boutique hotels at twice the price. Liberty bell is just a short three block walk (narrow block dimensions) to the right as you come out the main entrance. Staff are all very friendly and helpful, breakfast was BW style and area was clean and comfortable. Parking is available, for fee, just a short 5 min walk from the hotel in a public parking lot.

« Overcharged... lied about price »

So I visited this hotel for a couple nights and the first night I booked a room online... the price said 150 something but in the end the charge on my credit card was more than 181 dollars.. then I wanted to extend my stay for one more night and the price quoted to me was 131$, but the charge on my credit card was around 191$ after a few days. I feel deceived by the hotel manager. Everything else was ok but this extreme overcharging is unacceptable!

    « Philly Wedding »

We. stayed here for a wedding. We were able to check in early. The room was small but clean. We weren't planning to spend time in the room so the size did not matter. It is centrally located in the Independence Mall area. There are plenty of restaurants close by.

    « Perfect! »

We loved this hotel! Lots of character in the old building and super friendly staff. Walking distance to a ton of tourist sites-- we checked out Elfreths Alley, the Betsy Ross house, Franklin Square Park, and walked by the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. And that was with a pregnant lady and small child in tow, most of these sites are no more than a few blocks away! I highly recommend staying here-- great price for the location!

« Great place to stay in historic part of city »

    « Philadelphia visit, July 2016 »

This was our first visit to Philadelphia and selecting this hotel was intentional because of its location to Independence Hall. We were even more excited by the beautiful, historic interior and super friendly staff. We really loved the breakfast selection and layout, as well as the dining room set up. We were visiting other cities as well and this was our 3rd stop and by far the best room we had been in and the pillows were wonderful. I especially appreciated the shower because of the large "rain" style shower head, so great after being in the car for hours! Thank you for a great memorable stay, we would definitely recommend this hotel!!!

    « Awesome place-great amentities »

We only stayed for one night but it was a great stay. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Parking was easy and in Philly that's saying a lot. It was walking distance to Festival pier where we were seeing a concert. The room was clean-they are a bit smaller but its an historic building. The free breakfast was delicious---your waffle has a liberty bell on it! i usually stay in Best Westerns and this was one of the best ones.

Pros- customer service was great especially Lynne She got us everything we needed including replacing our broken TV. The beds were comfortable and air con worked well. The breakfast was good too good location. Cons- our room had a terrible view. TV didn't work. Our room was near the elevator.

« Right in history alley... »

We loved our stay at this historical hotel. Rooms will be small and narrow due to it being an old building. But we were so pleased! From the helpful staff to a great breakfast, our stay was amazing! We even got parking and our suitcases stored today in order for us to explore old city. Thank you BW for making my daughter's bday trip memorable in Philly even without trying and just working to your everyday high standards! We will be back someday!

« Great Location, Great Staff, Great Hotel »

We chose this hotel primarily for its proximity to the Independence National Historic Park. It was right in the middle of Old Philadelphia a short walk from all of the historical sites. Established in 1856 it is an old hotel that has been restored and updated in terms of creature comforts. Our room was large although a strange layout. Our windows looked out on 2nd Street from the 3rd floor and reasonably quiet. Breakfast is included and includes hot entrees, waffles and much more changing every day. Staff is really wonderful and helpful. We arrived at about 6 AM and they were able to get us into a room. On Wednesday night, we were treated to wine, cheese and snacks. Very close to public transportation and the Philly Flash, a hop on hop off tour type bus running a fixed route to all of the primary tourist locations. Best part is all the public transportation including the Philly Flash are free for seniors.

« Lovely small hotel in historical district »

The hotel is right in the middle of old Philadelphia and is itself in an historical building. My room was extremely comfortable with an excellent mattress and great choice of pillows. It was extremely quiet, too. It was very dark however and I needed to turn the lights on during the day. Make sure to ask for a higher floor or a brighter room. The bathroom was perfect and the amenities superior to many hotels in the same class. The breakfast was good and the staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. I loved the location and there are many outstanding restaurants in the area.

    5
    « A Great Place to Stay »

The hotel is in the older part of the city near the Liberty Bell. Easy access to everything by cab. Market St. is within walking distance. Lots of shops and restaurants. Franklin Ice Cream is near! Reminded me of my time as a little girl. Long line but it moved fast.

« Excellent Customer Service & Very Clean »

This hotel is in a beautiful old building. The staff here was excellent, attending immediately to our needs with very pleasant attitudes. Our room was very clean, the bathroom was immaculate. We had the handicapped room and it was sparsely furnished to make it more open. So there was only the desk chair to sit on. The only table was the desk. There was no end table on one side of the bed and only the desk on the other. We just could not get comfortable to watch TV or eat in our room. All of this being said, I believe that it was only this handicapped room that was like this. The hotel overall was very nice and I would stay there again, but in a regular room.

    5
« Great location, very historic »

We stayed here as a family of four (mom, dad, two teen boys); the hotel is very historic and quaint with a great location - walking distance to historic area and attractions. The staff was very friendly and free water water and snacks in the lobby. The hotel offered the usual type of free breakfast, which serves the purpose for a family on the go who doesn't like to get up any earlier than necessary. The only down side is that our room was quite small. The bathroom was also quite small. Our boys are now the size of adults and we all had large suitcases. However, for just a few nights and no more than we were in the room, it worked just fine and the location was worth a lot to us. Right now there is construction going on across the street but we were not in our room during the day so was not a problem as far as noise or workers seeing in our room.

    « Family trip »

What a charming hotel! Staff is so friendly and helpful. All were knowledgeable about the city and took time to give directions as well as recommend the best way to get around the city and what to see. Hotel rooms were well appointed and clean. Breakfast offered was bountiful. Eggs, bacon, make your own waffles, yogurt, bagels, toast, English muffins, asst cereals. Great location to all historical sights and lots restaurants in area within walking distance. Highly recommend

Took my daughter to Philly for the 4th, found this hotel to be in a perfect location for the main historic sites, with easy access to other landmarks such as the Franklin Institute and Museum of Art. Overall a great place to stay.

« Darling boutique hotel in the heart of the historical district »

This BW is an historical landmark. The lobby is just gorgeous. The rooms are wonderful - with very high ceilings. The bed and pillows were oh-so-comfortable. Everything was spotlessly clean. The breakfast is plentiful, and the breakfast room is just lovely. They serve tea and cookies in the lobby in the afternoon, which is a truly pleasant experience. We loved everything about our stay at this hotel. OH- and a major plus is the ice cream (gelato) place next store (unaffiliated). The food in Phili is very good on average, but this place has truly wonderful ice creams.

    « Superb Staff & Great Property »

Last minute reservation. Hotel is charming and quaint and much more than expected from a traditional Best Western property. You cannot beat its location in relation to near-by restaurants and historic sites. While short on some amenities (pool, gym etc) it is great value for the money. Highly recommend this property for either business or leisure travel to Philadelphia.

« Great Location, Great Hotel »

we picked this hotel based on trip advisor reviews and were not disappointed. It's a small and very charming hotel- we guessed about 35-40 rooms. We had a roomy king room with a pull out sofa for our son. We were able to walk to all the historic spots- no more than 10 minutes to the liberty bell- and took the subway to see a phillies game. Many good restaurants on Market Street- one block over. One way streets and lots of traffic make it a little hard to drive. We were able to see the Penn Landing fireworks from just outside the front door.

« Good memories of Independence Hotel »

We had a king room on the second floor - very quiet The parking is a block away but no inconvenience at all, just a nice walk in the summer time. The hotel is so special, comfortable bed and everything is so clean and inviting. The breakfast was the greatest- even real silverware, tablecloths and napkins. Lots of variety, oatmeal & the fixings, fruit, waffles with the LibertyBell on them, cereal and danish rolls. We took in several of sights, walked to the Independence Hall, Betsy Ross House and the Christ Church where many famous men worshiped.

« Great Location, Charming Hotel »

We wanted to stay near the historic district and picked this hotel based on trip advisor reviews. We were not disappointed. The hotel is small and charming (though no on-site gym facilities that disappointed our 14 year old). The staff are friendly & helpful. The internet was very good with no intermittent issues that we sometimes experience at other hotels. There are coffee & cookies in the lobby in the afternoon. It is right in the middle of everything- we could walk to restaurants, Independence Hall and all the historical areas. The nearby subway made it easy for us to get to a Phillies game. It is VERY congested in the downtown area and driving can be a little stressful. We parked our car and didn't use it the whole trip. The hotel has two spaces in front for loading & unloading and then you self park a few blocks away.

    « Nice »

The best point of this hotel is location. It is near the historic area and the waterfront and shopping I found it a bit pricey--$300 for one night for basic room (this includes the city's $42 taxes and the $17 parking fee). I know I know. It's Phillie what do I expect Nice set up for check in but parking is not on site. It's about block and a half away. Process is inconvenient. You have to drive back to the hotel after leaving the parking lot to return the parking card (or incur $75 fee) Lobby is nice can visit or play games Have coffee in lobby. Also afternoon tea and (store bought) cookies. Staff were attentive and very friendly Hallways where rooms are feel old, narrow but are clean and well maintained Room was average size, clean. Everything in working order. View of brick building Have in room coffee maker. Have tv but it's in a cupboard without the ability to pull it out. Thus hard to see while in bed Breakfast was standard fare--instant oatmeal. Frozen/thawed pastries. Waffle maker. Scrambled eggs. Sausage. Nice eating area. All ok but nothing fancy There is a gelato place next door. You are within a couple of blocks of Liberty bell, ben Franklin house All in all. Nice place to stay but pricey and nothing dramatic to say I would only stay here

I checked in online and had requested a room away from the elevator to avoid possible noise. When we checked in we were given the room right next to the elevator so I requested a different room. However they were fully booked so couldn't get a different room. Thank goodness that it wasn't too noisy. Aside from our room location, everything was good. Complimentary Breakfast was good. A few hot breakfast items in addition to the usual continental selection. Parking is at a lot a couple blocks away but you can park your car for 30 minutes curbside to unload luggage which was helpful. The beds were comfortable. Rooms were clean. Staff was friendly and helpful.

    « Lovely historic hotel »

We stayed in a two bedroom queen room. The room had a microwave and refrigerator which was wonderful for those late night snacks. The beds were comfortable and the room was quiet. There is a museum being refurbished across the street. We never heard any construction noise. They offer garage parking a couple blocks away (for a fee). There are a couple 30 minute spots in front of the hotel so you can unload your bags before parking at the garage. Breakfast was really good. They had waffles, eggs, bacon, cereal, breads, and pastries. This hotel was perfectly located for walking to many different restaurants. It was about a 10 minute walk to Independence Hall. We did a couple walking tours, Duck Boat, Hop on Hop Off bus which all started at Independence Hall. We loved it here and will definitely stay here again!

    « Brilliant location »

Quiet, clean, comfortable, brilliant location, efficient and friendly staff. Only downside is that the room was quite small but that can't be helped in an old building. Free cheese and wine on a Wednesday night! Would happily stay again.

    « Very good »

The location is great - just a few blocks from Independence Park. The breakfast is also wonderful - I expected a continental cold breakfast. There was waffles, hot cereal, eggs, and more. The staff is also helpful. We were very satisfied.

    « Good Location »

The hotel is in a good location close to attractions such as the Liberty Bell. The room was colonial style, so not modern, adequate size (not very large) and very clean. We requested a quiet room, and given 4th floor at the back which was good. The breakfast was basic but not great, waffles were the best option. The eggs etc looked like they had been there too long. My main issue was with the air conditioning in the room, it was 93 deg outside so we needed it on all the time, unfortunately although it was very effective, it was either on full blast or off. It was like being in a wind tunnel and with the noise was impossible to sleep with it on. The staff were very helpful during check in & car parking. There was a fridge in the room, and ice machine/vending available. Apart from breakfast & air con, I was happy with the stay and would recommend.

    « Lovely hotel!! »

We just spent three nights here, and we loved it!! The location is fantastic - just a couple of blocks from the historical sites - easy walk. The breakfast was great - hot delicious breakfast!! There were cookies in the afternoon in the lobby, too!! Our room was fine - not large as this is an older historic hotel - but big enough. Refrigerator and microwave in the room. The people were so nice, too. The ladies who worked the afternoon shift made us restaurant reservations with which we were very pleased. Also, typed directions were given to us to take the subway to the baseball game which we appreciated. I would definitely stay here again - it was our favorite during our two week trip in the Northeast.

    « Nice! »

Once we got over the shock of trying to park to check in and then the shock that parking is a block away, we realized this place is worth it. Everyone we met that works there were so nice. Check in was slow, but they are very thorough with directions and such. Room was super clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was free and very good. We liked it so much we are staying again in August.

    « Good location! »

The location is great if you are in town to sightsee! The staff were very pleasant and helpful! As for the room itself , it was small but served its purpose. Breakfast was better than most complimentary breakfast. Hotel is clean and I would probably use it again.

« This hotel felt like home »

The staff of Best Western Plus was very helpful and was always wondering what they could do to make sure our stay was enjoyable and comfortable. Lynn was very kind and helpful, and Lindsey was very friendly (even when we left at 3:30 AM!) Our family all agreed that this was the best hotel we have ever stayed at. All the attractions we wanted to see on our vacation were all in a walking distance from our hotel- including the very tasty pizza/ice cream shop next door. The breakfast was amazing, particularly the waffles. Overall wonderful experience and top notch service.

« Great Location and Friendly, Helpful Staff »

I highly recommend this hotel. My wife and I found the location of the hotel perfect for tourist looking to enjoy historical Philadelphia. All of the main historical attractions are neighing walking distance. The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. One late evening we asked about having tea with our dinner, which we bought take out. Although, it was well past their 'Afternoon Tea and Cookies' service, the staff member didn't hesitate to get the tea out for us. One of many such kindnesses we experienced. The room was clean and comfortable. We didn't have any problems, but guests with valuables should know their was no in room safe. Breakfast offered a nice selection, however, the longer the stay the more tired it may seem. Our four days was fine, but I wouldn't want it for a week or more.

« Very Comfortable and Great Location »

We were very happy at this hotel. Staff was very helpful, the room was very comfortable, and its location to Philly's historical sites is unmatched. Just a short walk down Chestnut puts you in front of Independence Hall. The advertised full breakfast was pretty typical of other "breakfast-provided" hotels. Lots of choices for pubs, small restaurants, coffee shops within walking distance. Much more of a couples hotel than a family hotel.

    5
    « Lots of charm »

The hotel is older but with lots of charm. The room was comfortable even for four people. The staff was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. The hotel is in a great location with many attractions within easy walking distance and several dining options. I have stayed in other hotels in Philadelphia, but this was my most enjoyable visit.

    5
    « A wonderful place! »

This is such a wonderful hotel! We absolutely loved the location, first of all, but the rooms and the common areas are just charming. The staff was wonderful and went out of their way for us in every possible way. We could not recommend this delightful hotel more strongly!

Several colleagues and I stayed at Independent Park Hotel for a several-day business trip. We all agreed we will be returning for vacation! The hotel is quaint, classy, clean, incredibly welcoming with wonderful staff, and in the BEST neighborhood for walking, restaurants, shops! We will be back!

« Two days in the Old City »

Great location -- historical landmarks and churches are close. A small hotel with a very helpful friendly staff and a clean facility. Parking at $17/night is a short block away, with in and out privileges. Enjoyed the Wednesday wine and cheese.

    « Nice Stay »

It was fun to stay in this historical hotel - extremely close to the historical sites. Pros ? Close to historical sites ? Historical building ? Wonderful breakfast ? Near restaurants and coffee shops Cons ? Decor in room is dated and tired ? Noisy pipes ? Not as clean as we would have liked

    5
« Amazing hospitality and location »

I can't say enough about this hotel. We were welcomed as soon as we walked in and they stored our luggage for the day while we started touring the city. It gets better...we came back to refresh for dinner and we were greeting with wine, cheese & fruit. We just sat in the lobby and had great conversation with other travelers. This hotel is a fantastic find and amazing location!!!

« Best part of our layover »

My husband and I were stranded in Philly due to a connecting international flight issue. This hotel was best part of our delay! EVERY SINGLE person behind the desk was helpful, courteous and kind. They even held our bags for us between hotels because we had no other place to go. The staff here is so kind. The hotel is beautifully historic and in a really good location for sight-seeing. If we decide to come back to Philadelphia on purpose, we are absolutely picking the Best Western Independence Park for our stay!!

    « Outstanding Location »

This hotel offers a great deal of historic charm and is within walking distance of many great Philadelphia Historic sites. The front desk staff will go above and beyond to help set up a great experience. It is not for the mobility challenged.

    « Philly Vacation »

We just wish to say how wonderful the staff was in accommodating us. We would especially like to express our thanks and appreciation of Lynn. From the moment that I began the reservation process, to guiding us in like air traffic control when our GPS took us to a rough neighborhood til when we left she was super. The location is perfect. We were able to walk to the tour buses and most of the historic attractions including the pier. There were several wonderful restaurants on the same street whose cuisine spanned the globe. There were Spanish tapas, Chinese, Afghan and more.

    5
« Great location and brilliant service »

We stayed here for 2 nights in early May as part of our road tour of Eastern USA. The hotel is right in the centre of the historic part of town and everything was within easy walking distance. The room was well appointed and the entrance and breakfast areas very pleasant. The highlight was the service - the staff are so accommodating and provided great advice on sites / streets to see and places to eat. We were made to feel so welcome, the lady on the front desk was just wonderful.

« A lovely hotel in historic Philadelphia »

We enjoyed our stay at the Best Western Plus Independence Park Hotel. This historic building is well decorated - beautiful lobby, nice appointed room. Walking distance to all the major historic landmarks. Breakfast offered a nice selection; staff was attentive; bed was comfy. We'd come back here in a heartbeat!

« Excellent find in center City, Philadelphia »

A very charming nest for the city travelers, who love to walk around historic Philadelphia, in close proximity to Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is welcoming and the service is excellent. The rooms are spacious for city standards, very clean, with comfortable beds. The receptionist, Lindsey deserves a thumbs up for her exceptional service as front desk person. She is friendly, very helpful and goes out of her way to make the guests feel welcome and make your stay memorable. The morning free breakfast is the best we have ever had- with pancakes and waffles, scrambled eggs, toast, cereal, great oatmeal, fruits, breakfast sausages and a very friendly staff, who refill the food trays promptly and help with whatever needs the guests may have. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for great service and comfort in center city, Philadelphia.

« Location and staff are excellent! »

The location is excellent as it is in walking distance to Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, Constitution Center and all the other sites in that historic area. The Franklin Institute is a short drive. You pull up in front of the hotel and a get a parking pass to be able to park in a garage about a block or so away. From the moment we walked in the staff was excellent; they were super friendly and helpful. We could check our bags in since we were early and the room wasn't yet ready. The lobby has tables and chairs and we played a game they had available there. Breakfast is included and they have make your own liberty bell waffles, oatmeal, and other hot options. The breakfast staff were also very kind and helpful. The room was a nice room with two double beds. A new museum is being built across the street, which will make the location even better. We fully intend to return to this hotel on our next trip to historic Philly.

    5
« You'll love the Liberty Bell Waffle! »

The waffle iron at breakfast has a Liberty Bell embossed in the center. How cute! This hotel is on the National Register of Historic Landmarks - so more than likely it is not required to be ADA compliant. It is not. The doorways are not big enough for wheelchairs and there are steps to get into the building (without handrails) making the luggage cart next to useless. I'm guessing most people that come here, come by plane, so they've got a carry on and wheelie bag. Road Trip folks that come with picnic baskets (not to be left in the car) and whole bunch of other stuff really need help getting their stuff inside. Fortunately, Joe the Maintenance Man is always eager to help. If you're struggling with luggage, ask for Joe. The room I had was nice, even if the view was of another building. But, y'know, we're in the Historic district - go OUT if you wanna see stuff. Breakfast was set up in groupings - over here was the hot stuff (eggs, sausage, etc.) around the corner were the cereals, waffles & breads. Over there was the coffee & juice station. It kept any one item from being crowded. I was there for 3 nights. One day I managed to get back early enough for the tea & cookies. I missed the wine & cheese party because I was still out sightseeing. You can hardly get a better location than this. Right across the street they're building the new Museum of the American Revolution. Three blocks down is Independence Hall (and a bunch of origination stops for the bus tours...and the Ducks tour.) It's a short walk to Betsy Ross' house and a whole lot of other historic sites. I didn't compare prices with other hotels in the area. I understand my room usually goes for $299 a night, but I had BW rewards points and stayed for 36,000 points per night. (I'd been saving my points for years to do this trip.) Wrapping up, if you're going to Philly, stay here.

    « Nice hotel! »

Loved the Liberty Bell shaped waffles! I was disappointed there was not a laundry facility on site. Lynn, the staff member who checked us in, was awesome! Parking was a bit of a hassle, but manageable. Hotel was well within walking distance of all attractions (except Rocky steps). Great stay!

    5
    « Great Location - Clean Room »

This was our first time to Philly. We wanted to stay somewhere where we could walk to different establishments. This hotel was great! Located in between Old City & the Historic Districts. Lots of bars/restaurants nearby. This hotel offered a package that included parking for the evening. Breakfast included as we as afternoon cookies! We would stay here again!

    5
    « A Best Western, who knew? »

This is a lovely, quaint, boutique style hotel. Excellent location to historic sites in Philadelphia. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and very, very happy to help and to answer any questions. We got some excellent dinner recommendations. The rooms are lovely but small (we were not surprised given the location) keep this in mind if you need space. That is the only reason for a 4 star rating on the room. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. There is an excellent gelato place right next door and a nice coffee shop right down the block. Everything is within walking distance. The parking garage, although around the corner is still convenient. This section of the city is quite compact.

    5
    « A Problem turned around! »

We had a problem (with parking and front desk staff). The General Manager was very responsive. We are now completely satisfied! This is not common in our experience. Otherwise, the hotel is very historic and in an excellent location!

    5
« Terrific location. Extensive breakfast included. »

Great location-half a block from the Ben Franklin Homestead Museum, and just another block to Jewish Cultural Museum and the Independence Mall. I was traveling solo;had a room with one double/queen bed. Room is quite small but bathroom was spacious (unexpectedly so) and very clean. I requested a "quiet" room not near the elevator and my room location was perfect.

    5
    « Great Convenience »

In the heart of Center City near the subway, restaurants and clubs. Check in was a breeze and parking was affordable. I stayed at the Hilton last visit which I found to be dumpy. Room was clean and well maintained. The only criticism was by hotel staff hinting at writing a comment card about them so that they would get a bonus!

    5
« Overpriced, but otherwise no complaints »

Very clean. The hotel has character. Great location and very conveniently located near the water and plenty of restaurants to walk to. Breakfast options were disappointing but at least it was free. It's just overpriced simply for being a historical hotel.

    5
« I made a good decision to stay here »

I read a lot of reviews and did my research before making a decision to book 2 rooms for 3 nights at this hotel. The biggest selling point was LOCATION! We parked our cars after checking in and did not use them until we left to drive to Gettysburg. It was great to just walk out of our hotel and head down the street to all the historical buildings. The next good reason was the breakfast. This has to be the best breakfast we have ever had at a hotel,0 and the staff was so attentive and friendly. They had real plates and silverware, excellent waffles, oatmeal, and a rotation of hot items. Lots of room and very clean. Yes, rooms were on the small size but they were very clean and it is a historical hotel. The grandkids loved the cookies in the late afternoon!

« Perfect location, great staff, free cookies! »

I've never been to a hotel with more friendly smiling staff than here. Always helpful and nice. The room was ok, nothing great, but clean and comfy beds. Would def stay again if I can visit Philly again.

« Average hotel in good location »

We stayed two nights at this hotel and were a bit disappointed, having read such good reviews on Trip advisor. The location is excellent, but the rooms are tired and badly in need of a refresh. Breakfast was adequate but that is all. We had some luggage issues on checkout and needed the kindly help of the housekeeping staff to assist, as no one else was prepared to help. I was only offered a luggage trolley which I could not manage on my own. The room was quiet and the bed was comfortable.

    4
    « Great stay! »

One night stay and the hotel was in perfect location. Hotel staff are great, offsite parking wasn't much of a hassle, rooms are clean and comfortable - microwave and refrigerator are a plus. Walking distance to the sights and lots of restaurants and bars. Great breakfast included!!

    « Surprised and Delighted »

The staff are exceptionally helpful. I needed a last minute room during a high traffic week and they - Lyn at the front desk and Jessica the GM - stayed in touch with me with periodic updates until one opened up. Lyn greeted me on arrival with genuine feeling as a person, not a number. This was real personal service, not lip service, something you don't find much anymore. I've stayed in a number of hotels in Philly, and the BW plus Independence Park is now my number one choice for future visits. The rooms are not as spacious as newer hotels, but they are clean and well appointed. As a welcoming, well located boutique hotel, it is absolutely top notch. My expectations were exceeded and I'll definitely be back.

We stayed at the hotel as the location is excellent. We were able to walk to almost all our obligations, including a fancy dinner. The room was well appointed, the bed was comfortable and everything was The staff were lovely and very helpful. However, despite the high ceilings, we could hear every foot step of the folks who were staying above us. I'm not sure I would choose to stay here again unless we asked for a room on the top floor.

« Quaint Hotel in the Historic District »

We really liked this hotel because it was very close to Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, Philadelphia Mint, and close to many other National Park sites and Philadelphia sites in general (City Hall-13 blocks; Reading market-9'ish blocks). They have a really good breakfast every morning, tea and cookies every afternoon, and a wine and cheese get together on Wednesday (during our stay). Close to some good bars, restaurants, and eateries.

    « Great location »

We stayed here to attend a wedding at Camden NJ aquarium. The location was excellent for sightseeing(within walking distance) the Liberty Bell, Independance Hall ect...Close to great restaurants and shopping. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Their Continental breakfast was very good. It was very pricey though.

    « Great hotel »

Don't be fooled by the Best Western name - this is a beautiful boutique hotel located within walking distance to many tourist attractions. Although our room was a bit small, it was very clean and the furnishings were nice. We enjoyed the complimentary cookies in the afternoon and the free breakfast including Liberty Bell waffles. Wifi signal was strong and did not have any issues connecting to the internet. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Would stay here again!

« Lovely last minute stay »

We were not planning on staying overnight but decided at the last minute. We got the last room at this quaint old city hotel. It was very clean, the staff were friendly and the breakfast room was very inviting. We also loved our room with the high ceilings and interesting layout. The only downside is parking.

    4
    « Wonderful boutique hotel »

This is a small boutique hotel in a historic building in down town Philadelphia. Parking is an extra charge but conveniently located in a parking garage around the corner. As you'd expect in a historic building the rooms are not large, but nicely furnished, clean and comfortable. It was very quiet at night and we slept well. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were the typical Best Western buffet.

    4
« Historic building, great location. »

Great old building, in a good location to see the majority of the historic spots in Philadelphia. The staff is very friendly. The rooms are comfortable and nicely appointed. There is a decent breakfast available on the lower level of the hotel. Very good location, since Philly is such a walkable town.

    5
    « Worth the Cost »

This hotel was so close to a lot of sight seeing!!! Our room was very clean and staff was so courteous. They also offered the best continental breakfast I have ever had ?? The only thing I didn't like was the parking. We had to park in parking garage down the street from hotel.

    5
« Has that "B&B" Ambience-- and so Close to the Historic Attractions »

We LOVED this Best Western Plus for lots of reasons: location, location, location. Within walking distance of so many of the "Independence" sites, as well as Christ Church, the Jewish history museum, and good restaurants. Stayed there 3 nights and also loved the moderate price. Recommend you book directly with the hotel... it's less if booked in advance, and you can sign up for the "points" program. We did not need (or want) a car... parking nearby would be expensive. We used cabs, UBER is an option, and we bought a "hop on / hop off" for 2 days , and got around just fine. The breakfast was pretty good, too with choices including waffles, oatmeal, the usual breads and muffins, yogurt, fruit, eggs, and a meat choice. It was the "ambience" that sets this apart: with the high ceilings, super-comfy beds and welcoming lobby.... it reminded me of a New England B&B .... but a LOT less $$$. And the staff was great... we especially appreciate the evening manager; He recommended very good restaurants and let us in when we were a little late. (They lock the front doors at night, but you use your card key). Only complaint: a major bldg. renno is going on across the street, but that is "daytime" noise.

    5
    « A Nice Hotel In A Nice Location »

Best Western offered very nice amenities in a prime location within the old city of Philadelphia. We were able to comfortably walk to many locations within 1 - 1 1/2 miles from the hotel. We were also afforded the luxury of being situated next to several highly rated restaurants.

    5
« Excellent for customer service, comfort and convenience »

Lynn who checked us in is awesome! She's efficient, professional and personable with excellent customer service skills. We checked in on Wednesday just in time for wine, cheese, crackers and fresh fruit in the lobby. After a five hour drive it was a pleasant and welcome surprise. Elizabeth who oversaw the cocktail hour was engaging. Both Lynn and Elizabeth shared valuable local knowledge and recommendations which were greatly appreciated. The lobby is conservatively elegant with the open staircase yet invites people to sit and converse around the fireplace or play games provided by the hotel. We felt like royalty in our king-size, pillow-top bed in the middle of the room with 14 foot ceilings and royal blue damask drapes. The rooms are very comfortably appointed. I needed a sewing kit and was happy to find one provided with the bathroom amenities. Breakfast was plentiful. We've stayed at other Best Western hotels that provide similar breakfast options: make your own waffle, hot oatmeal, yogurt, eggs and sausage but none match the quality or care provided by the staff. The location is ideal as it's within a 5-20 minute walk to many historic sites including Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, Reading Terminal Market, Elfreth's Alley and the US Mint. Finally, Capofitto, next door serves gelato that is molto bene!

    5
« Great Place to stay in the city! Excellent Location! »

We stayed here to go to the baseball game. It was the perfect location for all of the historical events we visited as well! I would suggest this hotel. Everyone was kind, the rooms were clean and the breakfast was great. Great Job Best Western!

« Great Hotel in Old City »

The Best Western is in the perfect location for visiting the Old City, everything is within walking distance. Good breakfast: oatmeal with all the fixin's, waffles and real maplesyrup. Very helpful staff. Excellent restaurants nearby: Italian, spanish tapas, Cuban, Mexican and classic American bugers and not a TGIF insight.

« Excellent location, friendly staff »

With a discount, this historic hotel is a nice place to stay. However, don't be surprised that noise travels easily at night. The couple next door seemed like they were in our room--a little disconcerting for a few moments (could have been extremely uncomfortable). The staff is welcoming and helpful. Breakfast is above average--with a make-your-own waffle iron that has the Liberty Bell in the middle. The location is IDEAL. If you don't like large, busy hotels, this could be a special find. Ask for a quiet room, away from others. Note, construction is going on across the street (looks like a museum is being built). Might cause a little noise or traffic.

    5
    « Location, location ... and service »

Outstanding location, at the heart of the historic district. 5 min walks to Independence Hall, to the Liberty Bell , to the visitors center, to Penn's Landing... and to SPTA subway station. Great variety of restaurants within walking distance. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. Room had no view but very quiet which was our top priority. We will come back !

« Great Stay - Outstanding Staff - Very Close to Sights »

I was in town for a wedding and elected to stay a couple extra nights to catch the sights since I've never been to Philadelphia before. Upon arriving, I was met curbside by someone to help with my bags. Check in was a breeze and upon offering that this was my first trip to Philadelphia, I got several tips from the staff as to events and locations to see. The room was nice, the bathroom sparkling and I was amazed at how someone came by every day of my stay and asked if everything was up to my satisfaction and if I needed anything. Of course with a smaller property like this is the personal service is a bit easier to pull off. But it was still exceptional. The complimentary breakfast was your typical fare: danish, scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, bagels, biscuits & gravy, etc. It was hot and fresh and flavorful. Although I didn't avail myself of it, there's a daily 4PM "Tea Service" in the lobby. I DID however take advantage of the 24HR fresh coffee and flavored water. As it's name implies, it's just a couple blocks from Independence Park. There's loads of other sights within a couple blocks walk. I checked out the Polish American Heritage Museum. That brought back a lot of childhood memories. There's a GREAT Pizza joint just a couple doors down and plenty of places to grab a drink.

    « Perfect »

This hotel is an historic site but don't let the outside fool you. It's like stepping back in time. The atmosphere is quaint and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The location could not be more perfect as it is within walking distance to the various historical sites and the US Mint! The free breakfast is delicious with choices for all - try the chocolate liberty Bell waffles - our daughter loved them. The hotel is a little dark but that adds to the charm! Our daughter was there to take a test - we simply removed a lamp shade to give more light for her to study. It's close to good eating places as well with a gelato place next door, Marmont steak house and Franklin fountain icecream all within walking distance. They even have a functioning old fashioned phone! We would definitely stay there again!

« 4 Stars for location and breakfast - room was BOO »

So my teenagers called this hotel room the Haunted Mansion room when we walked in. So funny. There was room for the beds, dresser/TV and one small table in the corner. Not much space for anything else. The bathroom vent in the ceiling was literally hanging off the ceiling. Gladly, it didn't fall on our heads. The location however was fabulous. You are right in the middle of historic Philadelphia with all of the historic sites right around you. The breakfast was served in a nice little dining room and my son loved his Freedom waffle (I think that's what they called it). Its just a Belgian waffle with the Liberty Bell imprinted on it, but he thought it was cool and tasted good.

    « Lovely & great location »

Best Western- not me you say, but wait....this hotel is Charming! It's an old building restored and lovely. The room was plenty big, the lobby is very nice, the staff was very friendly. Great breakfast, the standard free Buffett with make your own waffles, sausage, fruit, everything you need. I also liked that they emailed me in advance with the pass and garage details. Very professional staff. Only down side, we were there Sat night and it was pretty loud outside until 1:00 am. It is a bar/ restaurant area so somewhat expected. Our room faced the street so you may not have that problem with an inside room. Even so, I recommend this hotel.

Historic charm, comfortable bedding, nicely decorated room in center of Old City within walking distance of most sights. Nice lobby tables with games while relaxing together. Wine & Cheese Wed. & Tea times daily made pleasant experience when tired from sightseeing, etc. Great restaurants/bars beside and short walk.

A very pleasant stay with above average accommodations. The staff was very courteous and helpful. I was given the government discount because I was there having been called for federal jury duty. I would recommend it for anyone else in the same situation because it is within easy walking distance of the courthouse.

« amazing staff and location »

This hotel is a gem. It is a small boutique hotel in the heart of the historic district in Philadelphia. We were within a 5 minute (max) walk to Independence Park, Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross house, the U.S. Mint, Ben Franklin's house, printing press, Penn's Landing and so much more. There was easy access to public transportation near by as well. You are also within a minutes walk from a great brew pub, eclectic bars and delicious, unique restaurants. We didn't need our car at all. The staff was amazing. From the front desk people who helped answer any questions (One person who had just gotten off duty even walked us to our next destination), to the cleaning staff who wrote us hand written notes telling us to enjoy our stay, to the maintenance guy who helped us carry out our luggage. They were amazing. I can't wait to go back.

« Great hotel in historic district »

Beautiful historic hotel. Clean comfortable rooms. Delicious hot breakfast. Would stay at this hotel again. When in Philly I would recommend the river loop Bike trail (rentals right near the Art Institute) and Happily Ever After ice cream and frozen yogurt.

    « Location, location, location »

A small hotel that's a few blocks from Independence Hall. I was here for a small conference. We select it largely for its great location. The bedrooms are spacious and clean. I have 2 criticisms. First, the fan blew air on my face when I slept, which I dislike. So I had to shut off the fan before sleeping. Second, the folding chairs set up in one of our business rooms were very very uncomfortable.

    « Easter getaway »

Pleasantly surprised. Wonderful ambience, great staff. Woke up to Easter Eggs on the door. Later that day, the receptionist had hidden eggs for the kids to "hunt" for. She was just as excited for the kids as we were. Breakfast was free but still good and plentiful.

A Very nice hotel. It is right in the heart of all of the historical attractions. So, everything is accessible. Breakfast is also included. But, I must confess, I did not have the breakfast at the hotel. A very nice hotel.

Great location, wonderful staff, gorgeous outside and main entrance. Small rooms and very dark inside - but you don't go to Philly to stay in your room! We would certainly come again and stay again. Also good deal for to location and access to everything around!

    « Great Hospitality »

I live near Philadelphia but stay at hotels regularly in center city for both business and pleasure. This was my first stay at the Independence Park and I most definitely will return. I was there on business for a three night stay. Independence Park has the quaintness of a small boutique hotel, with the hospitality of a bed and breakfast. All staff, from the front desk to housekeeping were very welcoming and friendly. Particularly the gentleman who took care of maintenance, on a daily basis he would speak to me and make sure the I was satisfied and the needs of all guests were addressed. Situated in the heart of Old City, Independence Park is a very short walk to the great variety of restaurants, pubs and nightlife of the area as well as the variety of historic sites. The amenities include a free breakfast; coffee, tea and cookies in the afternoon, and wine and cheese on Wednesdays. My stay at the Independence Park was a respite for relaxation from the intense business matters with which I was addressing during the day. Highly recommended.

Friendly staff, great location, nice room! Near great restaurants, walking distance to historic sights, you can walk up to your room (don't have to take the elevator) and they have a partnership with a parking lot too if you have a car.

« In the Center of It All »

If you're looking for a hotel which is in the center of the historic district of Philadelphia you do not have to look any further! Great sites, great location for some of the best restaurants and a hotel that is not cookie cutter! Parking is reasonable and no more than a block away with in/out option.

    « Truly impressive staff »

During early March 2016, I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel while my wife was hospitalized at Pennsylvania Hospital. I was very well pleased with everything about this facility and especially with the staff. The front desk staff, and in my case especially Lindsay and Craig, are absolutely the nicest, friendliest, most helpful, knowledgeable people I have encountered in quite awhile. They helped to make what was a bit if a difficult situation for me much easier to deal with and for that I am very appreciative. While the hotel building is historic it is very well maintained throughout. The entire hotel is clean a testament to the housekeeping staff who obviously take great pride in their work. After all, clean is what you are looking for and they deliver. The rooms are comfortable as was the bed. The breakfast was very good and the staff in the breakfast area were also wonderful. This is definitely a place that I would recommend.

« Elegant and not Glitzy »

This is a lovely, elegant but not glitzy boutique hotel in the absolute heart of the historic district. The style of the hotel is right for its location. It is quiet- which is rare. The breakfast, was quite good, and the setting, in the glassed-in courtyard, is perfect. The lobby is small but homey, with cookies, coffee, ice water available. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. The new Museum of the American Revolution is being built right across the street and Independence Hall is only a few blocks away. Restaurants are nearby as is good public transportation. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and plan to return.

    « Simply the Best »

For a historic hotel in downtown Philadelphia it was a superb hotel. Right in the center of the action. The breakfast was very good and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The old hotel was well kept. It was a joy staying here. Just a few blocks down the road is where history was made, a very easy walk to the good stuff. Plenty of restaurants in the area. Just park the car and enjoy the walk.

    « Excellent Again! »

I stayed here with my daughter in 2014 and had such a wonderful experience that I booked it again for a trip with my husband. We loved the location, the atmosphere and the service. It is a small heritage hotel with a lovely lobby which entices you to sit and enjoy the ambience of the "Old Town" and Afternoon Tea and Cookies. You are walking distance to all the historic sites and some nice restaurants. Philadelphia is quite easy to walk, and so we also went across the city to the LOVE Fountain, the Art Gallery district and the Reading Terminal Markets quite easily, though buses also service those areas from near the hotel. Our King room was on a high floor overlooking Chestnut Street. The décor is lovely, and although there is construction of a new museum happening across the street, inside the room was cosy with thick drapes and beautiful furnishings. Breakfast was a simple but delicious buffet, and you really must try a Liberty Bell waffle. Staff were very helpful. When my niece rang the hotel at 10:30 pm with travel arrangements for the next day, we found a handwritten note slipped under our door from Lyn at the Front Desk. We so appreciated the time she had taken to do this - it was an example of great service. We were allowed to leave our bags on checkout with reception and they made arrangements for short term parking outside the hotel for our pickup the next afternoon. I'm only sorry we didn't have longer to stay here as it was thoroughly enjoyable and great value.

Within walking distance in the historic district of Philadelphia. Updated room with comfortable beds. Only drawback is a new building being built across street...so some construction noise during the week. Didn't bother us because we made the most of our day by being elsewhere during the day. Very hospitable staff.

« WOW - these people do it right! »

This was the best hotel experience I have had in a long time. It was the staff that made it 110%. If you are in the Philadelphia area you won't be unhappy if you stay here. Its location is also perfect if you want to see the historic sites.

I stayed while in town for a wedding. The room was very cozy and pretty. Air worked great considering we needed heat and A/C at different times. I would definitely stay here again!

« Philly Best Western Plus: A Good Choice »

I stayed in the Best Western Plus right in the heart of Philly on business. When we booked it, my boss made a joke about us not really choosing luxury for this trip. He was reacting to the name, and his association with Best Westerns, I guess, but he was wrong. I usually stay in a Marriott, and I must say, this had better customer service than a lot of the Marriotts I've stayed in. Furthermore, it's nice on the wallet and you get free internet and a really great breakfast included in your stay. There's no doubt for me that I would come back and not even search and compare other options on future trips. My decision for Philly is made over the longterm. As long as every subsequent trip matches my last experience, it will be Philly's Best Western Plus on each occasion I find a need to travel there. It was great; I'd recommend it to anyone.

    « Worth the stay! »

Very centrally located hotel. Breakfast is hearty with waffles, assorted bagels, yogurts, muffins, beverages etc. In the late afternoon there are complimentary hot beverages and cookies. The evening concierge woman (I think her name was Lynn but could be wrong) is so accommodating, flexible, chatty, helpful to the guests and easy going with children. The reason why this hotel didn't get 5 stars is because the room we stayed in was fine, nothing exceptional. Your basic standard room with a king bed and a pull out queen sofa. The bathroom is large with all the toiletries included. The large flat screen was nice and I appreciate it when a hotel gives you a list of channels. The room itself with nothing special but completely fine and met our needs for our one night stay. Yes, there is construction outside directly across the street but the noise didn't bother us and the hotel provides a "white noise" machine if needed. Definitely should stay as the major sights are within walking distance. Minutes walk from the liberty bell. Lots of restaurants nearby.

    5
« Has heart and personal touch »

Great location. The staff were friendly and very helpful. I would stay here again. Lots of restaurant choices close by. The rooms have tall ceilings, large windows and a personal touch. Close to many historical venues.

    « Perfect location »

Just along street from Independence Hall and away from the noisy end of town at night, it was exactly what we wanted. The room was compact but had everything and was very comfortable. I was particularly impressed with the quality and range of toiletries that make a hotel stay just a bit more of a treat and a really good armchair for reading, watching tv etc. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The only thing that stopped me giving it 5 stars was the breakfast - I didn't expect much but the one 4 slot toaster was completely inadequate to toast any of the bakery items on offer and there were no staff on hand to help.

    5
    « comfortable and convenient »

This is the perfect place to stay when you visit Philadelphia. Close to Independence Park and Society Hill. The city's public transportation system makes moving around easy. The hotel has the feel of a boutique hotel--the rooms are small but all different. The staff was helpful in recommending restaurants and suggestion activities. I would definitely stay here again.

    « A+ Experience »

We booked a night at the Best Western Independence based on reviews and price. Wasn't expecting too much other than a place to stay the night, but ended up having an excellent experience. Upon walking in, we were greeted by Sagal, who was polite, knowledgeable, and extremely courteous. There was another woman at the front desk who was very thorough in reviewing our surroundings as well, though I can not recall her name. She was there around 3:00PM on March 11th. Both of these staff members deserve to be recognized for providing an excellent experience for us as guests at the hotel. Any company who has people of this caliber working for them is extremely lucky. They made the hassle of travel a breeze! The hotel itself is clean and well kept. It is in a very convenient location, close to great restaurants and bars, as well as historic sights. The neighborhood it is located in was great as well. All together, our stay at this location was terrific. If I could give six stars, I would.

    « Very welcoming »

I recently visited with a few friends for spring break and we decided to stay here due to it being so close to Independence Hall and other historical points. The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and very welcoming to us. We arrived around 4pm on a Monday and the front desk checked us in with no hassle. Our room was on the top floor but the elevator made it easy to get up. The room was a little on the small side, but it was still enjoyable. The breakfast was amazing every morning and the employees were always helping and taking your trash for you. The hotel also has tea and cookies from 4-7 every afternoon along with coffee. Everything about this hotel makes we want to go back as soon as possible. Definitely stay here while in Philly!

    « Going downhill »

The room was very nice - large, clean and well-appointed. But the parking lot is two and one half blocks away, and, at the time, was almost full, so I had to drag my final bag down the stairs (elevator not working) from the seventh floor and down the crowded sidewalks to the hotel. At the hotel, I was made welcome. But a hotel like this should offer some sort of valet service. If I were disabled in any way, I could not have stayed there. That night, I was continuously awakened by noise in the room above. At midnight, I called the front desk, and the night manager did take care of the problem. The night manager was good, but both of the other people at the desk were unfriendly, unhelpful, and, frankly, not very smart. I was told to call the hotel as I was approaching because there was construction closing the street. The guy would not listen - he kept trying to give me instructions to the hotel, where I've stayed multiple times, when all I wanted to know was whether I should park on the corner of Third and Chestnut to wait for service. The service arrived ten minutes after I'd parked at the busy intersection (only a half-block away). Their only job, it seemed, was to sit there and check people in and out. At least, that's all they seemed able to do. When I checked out, I talked to the bellhop and told him I would be back with the car in a few minutes. When I arrived, the loading zone was full, so I circled the block again. When I was finally able to park, there was no bellhop. I had to drag both my bags out to the street, down several steps, and into my car. I gladly tip for this service, and in a "boutique" hotel, I expect it. When I mentioned it to the front desk, there was no apology - just an "OK". I'm just glad the weather was good, because the hikes to the parking lot (no valet service) would have been worse. And by the way, there was a parking fee.

Awesome place, nice, clean, safe, friendly. Loved the location and the amenities! The staff was really helpful, and I felt perfectly at home there. « Weekend Stay »

I booked this hotel through Groupon due to the rate and the fact they had the best parking rate of any other hotel I saw. My 2 girlfriends and I came up for the Flower Show on Sat. When we arrived at the hotel, we could not turn right down the street due to construction. So my one friend called the hotel and asked what should we do. They gave us instructions to come back around and someone would be out to gather our luggage and give us the parking pass for the parking garage. To their credit, when I drove back around, someone was out there and took our luggage and gave me the pass. At this time, it was a little after 12:00 noon...but we wanted to check our luggage prior to going to the flower show. So we checked in and was informed that 2 of the 3 rooms were available! What a welcome surprise! And the other great thing? All 3 rooms were together right on the 1st floor! No elevator and nor going up and down floors to each other room! My friends and I loved the 'intimate' feel of the hotel and the fact that there weren't many rooms on the floor we were on...and it was very quiet. There were no problem with the rooms...perfect size for one person. The only small 'complaint' I had was my room and one of my friend's TV was in chest and you had to situate the TV so you could watch from the bed. My other friend room had a more updated desk with the TV on top, which she could easily move. The mini fridge was also hidden inside the chest where ours was outside on the floor across from the bed. Other than that, we would definitely choose this hotel to stay in again. Great location and within walking distance to most attractions. We were sorry to miss the afternoon tea and cookies...hopefully next time!

Hotel staff was very nice. Everyone we interacted with from the front desk to the housekeeping staff was outgoing and friendly and always checked to make sure everything with our stay was okay Room was small, but clean and all we needed for our 1 night stay. They have a great continental breakfast with bagels, waffles, eggs and coffee served till 10 am. My group will be making our trip an annual event and we would definitely stay here again. The location was perfect. A number of restaurants and bars in walking distance, tons to do and explore.

« The place we like to stay in Philly »

We liked the room assigned to us on this visit, except for it being beside the elevator landing, and subject to noisy conversation of guests. Also, some construction noise from the building project across the street. However, a "white noise" sound dampener was thoughtfully provided. The staff are courteous & helpful. The parking, two blocks away, is reasonably priced and allows in/out. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel.

    « Weekend in Philadelphia »

We were pleasantly surprised at how nice and cozy the Best Western Independence Hotel was. Very welcoming foyer and friendly staff to greet us we were able park righ in front, unload our luggage and self park our car right around the corner in a secure parking garage. We do not like valet parking so this was ideal. Walked across the street the The City Tavern for lunch (wonderful meal) and headed back to the hotel for an early check in. The room was spacious, spotless and very comfortable. We were on the 5th floor and it was extremely quiet. The bath towels were numerous and plush. The Bed was also very comfortale and seemed very new. This hotel is an easy 2 block walk to all of the wonderful historical sites in Independence Hall area and restaurants, bars and other attractions are steps away. To top it all off, they offer Liberty Bell waffles in the morning to complement your hot breakfast. It was a great way to start the day and they also kept our bags after check out so we did not have to over the car until it was time to leave. Thank you very much for a lovely weekend stay!

« Great location and comfortable room »

Stayed here one night to sight see in Philly. Upon check in we were given a 1st floor room but easily switched to a room on the 5th floor hoping for a quieter location. Not sure if it mattered, because we could hear the family next door through the adjoining door. You can't pick your neighbors! No fault of the hotel. The heating system fan was very loud but we got used to it. Over all the staff was very friendly. We just got coffee in the morning so can't comment on the breakfast. The bed was comfortable and the towels were plenty. It was about a 2 block walk to the Liberty Bell which is why we booked the Best Western Plus. Easy parking in the garage around the corner.

This is a small hotel, in the heart of the city. The lobby is a friendly place to come in from a busy day, grab a hot drink, cookies, and relax. « The hotel rooms, the area and the staff »

We were three and the room was perfectly comfortable for us, we didn't feel like you can't move because you would hit your roommates. The hotel is really near to the principal history monuments. I want to make a special mention of the kindness of the staff, in special Lynn who solved all of our special request inmediately and always with a smile. The only thing that I believe they could improve, it's the breakfast, putting more food options.

this was our 4th stay at the best western. our room (107) was small, but very comfortable, with sufficient closet and drawer space, and included a mini-fridge. the bathroom was a nice size, with a lovely shower. the free breakfast is great--juice, cereal, toast, english muffins, coffee, fruit, even waffles!! every wed., in the late afternoon, free wine and cheese is available, and there are fresh-baked cookies available every afternoon. the staff is extremely helpful. the location can't be beat. you are just a few blocks from the historic district, there are numerous restaurants all around the hotel, and many bus lines, and a septa train stop, are all within walking distance. if you can stay 3 nights, ask for the special rate. paid parking is available in a garage around the corner. a new museum is being built across the street, but during our stay there was no construction noise or obstruction. if you are concerned about the noise, ask for a room at the back of the hotel. we highly recommend the best western for your stay.

Hotel was adorable. Breakfast was standard and no complaints there. Room was pretty small, but that's expected given the age of the hotel. Everything was clean and the room did not offer a view. WiFi worked with no issues and we got many channels. No complaints at all!

    « Fabulous weekend »

I was amazed that a Best Western Hotel in the middle of a city could provide this kind of charm, ambiance, and level of service. I have reconsidered how I think about Best Western - it's not an operation that attempts to look for financially driven service-impacting costs savings, but rather a middle tier chain that seeks to provide a level of value that vastly exceeds its pricing structure,

    « A Great Place to Stay »

The staff is fantastic, the location is fantastic, and the room is fantastic. I really thought staying in this place was not going to be that great, but the Best Western Plus Independence Park Hotel exceeded my expectations. All of the staff were gracious and accommodating in many ways. The afternoon tea was a great break. The room was very comfortable and quiet. The breakfast was very good. I can honestly say I would stay there again.

« Fantastic location and great service »

The location of this hotel is perfect. Within walking distance to many restaurants, bars and historical sites. They also contract with a parking garage right up the street and don't charge that much for it. You need to use your key card to get in to the hotel after a late hour so we felt very safe. The room itself was small, but I was expecting that as it is in a downtown location. It was extremely clean and nicely furnished. Our room looked into an enclosed courtyard and some of the rooms probably overlooked construction across the street, but we didn't come here for the view! The free breakfast is outstanding. I had to have a Liberty Bell waffle! All of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. They greeted us and made sure everything was OK every time we saw a staff member. You really can't beat the location of this hotel and it has very reasonable rates. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it.

    « Wonderful Hotel! »

This hotel was just plain fantastic! The location was amazing! A short walk to the Liberty Bell and lots of restaurants and attractions. The staff here was wonderful! Everyone was very courteous and friendly and extremely helpful with providing directions and advice about the city. The room was comfy and had the tallest ceilings! The complimentary breakfast had their signature Liberty Bell waffles which were just plain delicious! I will definitely be staying here again.

    « Very suprised »

Room was very big. Was clean everywhere, in our room , lobby and dining area. Staff were all nice and more than willing to help in any way needed. Location was amazing. We walked to all the history places , there in Philly. Liberty Bell was right there. Food was all right around the corner. We would stay here again if we were going back to the same area. Great place to stay.

« Very Nice Hotel, Great Location! »

We stayed for three days over the Blizzard 2016 weekend. Hotel staff was very friendly , the rooms were clean and quiet and the mattress was AWESOME! Breakfast was OK. The location was terrific and within walking distance to most of the Old Town sites, even in a blizzard,. The only reason the hotel did not get a 5 star was because of the parking. It is not on site and a minor inconvenience when checking in and out. I would rate this Hotel 4.75 out of 5. Would definitely stay there again.

    « winter storm 2016 »

I was stuck in Philly during January winter storm and luckily was able to get a room at this excellent hotel. All staff were wonderful as well as the accommodations. This hotel is conveniently located to many historical sites and easy to reach from 30th st.station. I highly recommend.

« Great location, friendly staff, comfy and well kept »

I was in Philly for a 3 day business trip and just needed a place to sleep, so I was not too regarding. What really sold me on this one was the beautiful lobby pictures, with a burning fireplace. I was not disappointed! The lobby is really that cozy. The hotel is rather small (36 rooms I believe), which makes it quiet and peaceful, the way I like them! I heard nothing at night and was able to sleep comfortably. Their bed was comfy, the bathroom had a tub which was a big plus. The bathroom was very clean and well kept. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The only things I took a star off for was breakfast. Really, really sad. I didn't have time to really grab breakfast somewhere else, so I sucked it up. But it was sad eggs from a box, sad toasts, even the orange juice was not great. I imagine most people would not have breakfast there, but when given the option to eat in the hotel, I like to see proper food and quality. Other than that, the location is GREAT. I didn't know Philly except for some tourist visit a few years back. This hotel is located in the Old Town. Tiny red brick buildings, beautiful architecture, great shopping and restaurant. Some of it expensive, be careful, since the neighborhood seems rather upscale.

I spent several nights here with my wife and three children. The staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The location is fantastic. We were within walking distance of many historical attractions, the Franklin Institute, and lots of great places to eat! We loved it!

« Romantic getaway before a big move »

We were about to move to a new home and were all packed with the bare essentials left to live with.....decided to pack them up the night before settlement and stay in a hotel which happened to be around the corner from our first of two settlements that day.Well worth the money!!!! We were so happy with all the package offered, so much so, that we would return to enjoy the city of Philadelphia to stay there again just to visit.

    « Great Stay! »

Great place to stay and have a lot of extra toiletries in case you forget anything!! :) The exterior was a bit obscure and under construction, but overall, great experience! The check in process was easy and convenient. The location is great! Right in the middle of Philly :)

Stayed for just one night 1/17/2016. Very friendly front desk personnel. Easy check in & out. The Hotel itself is 160 years old but you would never know it. Beautiful staircase greets you when you first walk in and a very inviting fireplace in the lobby. They have free Wi-Fi and a computer in the lobby so that you can look up anything you need. It sits right in the heart of old city. You can walk to a lot of different historical places. Close to Penn's landing as well. Our room was small but very comfortable. Excellent bed. Wonderful bathroom well stocked with toiletries and plenty of towels. Great free breakfast. I would certainly stay here again!!!!

    « All good here »

We stayed January 17,18 and 19. The room (308) was comfortable, very very good bed, quiet and the bathroom was perfect. Breakfast was excellent with way above average coffee, eggs, waffles, bisquits, sausage gravy one day, bacon one day, oatmeal, cereal and plenty other good things...yum! Tea and cookies at 4! We did Independence Hall, etc, the art museum and other tourist required stops. Parking near the hotel is easy and convenient. This is a great place to stay...and in the center of everything. A very friendly, helpful staff. Try the Khyber Pass for dinner.

This past weekend, we had an overnight trip to the city. I am so glad that we chose this hotel! The building, the lobby, our room, everything was gorgeous! The staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating. We were actually bummed when we had to leave on Monday because we had such a great time there. I would definitely stay there again in the future!

« The Heart of the City »

I had to travel to Philadelphia for business but was able to bring my 13 year old son who loves history and we programmed an extra one and a half days to check out Philadelphia and its historical sites. We arrived after midnight on a Thursday and there was nowhere to park in front of the hotel to unload. The streets were packed with people waiting to get into the bars and nightclubs that are on both sides of the hotel. We had to park a couple blocks away and check in and get the parking pass for the parking garage that the hotel uses. Now being from a very rural area we were pretty apprehensive about walking around the downtown area of a major city that we didn't know that late at night. All went well though and we got our business done and did our site seeing and had a very good stay. We loved the location of the hotel for site seeing. It's only a couple of blocks to Independence Park, City Tavern, the Constitution Center, etc. I have to say that Philly is really a lovely town with many friendly people and after our first experience really enjoyed it. The room was nice and clean and well appointed. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was a normal hotel continental breakfast with plenty of choices. The location is excellent if you want to be close to historical attractions or night life. As many other reviewers noted, the parking garage is a couple blocks away but is a nice facility with easy in and out. Overall a very good hotel.

    « Birthday weekend getaway »

Great Hotel! Staff were friendly and the room was really nice. We got a room on the first floor which was great for convenience but not so great for a view. Be sure to get a room not on the first floor if you are looking for a nicer view. The continental breakfast was really good and we liked the afternoon tea and cookies as well. Overall an excellent job by the staff and a beautiful hotel.

« Very nice, friendly staff! »

It's rare that every single staff member at a hotel would have such a warm, welcoming presence, but we found it at this hotel. My daughter left her camera in the room, which was found and promptly reported to us the day we checked out. Thanks for a very pleasant stay!

    5
    « Very pleasant surprise »

Having never stayed at a Best Western before I was not sure what to expect from this hotel and their staff. I have stayed at a lot of the Marriott Resorts over the years and I can say without any doubt that my stay at the Best Western Plus Independence Park Hotel was far superior than what I have encountered at the high end resorts and hotels.

« Nice hotel with GREAT staff »

The hotel is right in the middle of a great district with lots of bars and restaurants just steps away. The staff is fantastic giving the feeling that you are in a top boutique hotel. Parking is about 2 blocks away, but it was with a keycard that gave in out privileges. The room was tiny, but nicely appointed with a comfy bed. Large bathroom.

« great location and better inside than i expected »

i picked this place because it is near where i was meeting people for dinner and was only a few blocks over from the 2nd street septa station. checked in about 6pm and front desk was very friendly and informative. i felt immediately welcome. she gave me all the tips about the hotel but also said dont worry if i dont remember; and come back anytime if i needed to. she was just great!!! stayed on the upper floors hoping it would be high enough so that it was quiet, and it was. this block tends to be noisy with the bars etc on the same street. the room was clean, well maintained and comfortable. bathroom was nice and very clean also. i noticed there was an restaurant/eating area downstairs from the main lobby but didnt get to try it. i will next time because i am definitely coming back to this hotel. kudos to the great friendly staff. lastly, there is complimentary breakfast and wifi, and some munchies in the lobby.

« Excellent hotel with great amenities »

I had just one day to see Philadelphia and this is the best hotel to stay. I wish I had more time. Great rooms, service, amenities & location. The Big Bus station and the Visitor center are 5 minutes walking distance from the hotel. The Lady Liberty shuttle will take you back to the airport for $10.00.

« Clean, convenient, price was right »

This hotel is a great place to crash after a night on the town. It has wonderful employees and clean, quiet rooms. The private parking the property has access to is a serious edge considering its location. The hotel could stand to renovate its rooms, but its location will have me coming back next time I'm looking to have a night on the town near Center City.

    4
« Great service, good location »

This hotel has wonderful, caring employees. The rooms are clean and tidy, and the price was right considering when we booked (NYE). The location can't be beat for a night on the town, but the property could use a renovation.

    5
« Charming place with wonderful employees »

From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted and treated like we were there only guest. The room was charming, the staff was so friendly from front desk, to maintenance man, cleaning staff and the ladies who run the breakfast. My husband and I both remarked how lovely they were. Great deal on our stay, parking in Philly for $17 and a free breakfast. How can you beat that deal? We were also a block from where our daughter was having her rehearsal dinner. This is such a nice place and I would highly recommend it and we will definitely stay there again.

This is the perfect choice for anyone wishing to tour the sites in Philadelphia's Olde City. The location is dead center of the city and all Independence Park attractions are within easy walking distance. The staff, from Lynn at the desk to the ladies who prepare the delicious complimentary full breakfasts are all knowledgeable, courteous and eager to respond to any question or need. The rooms are very reasonably priced, spacious and spotless. The building is magnificent and on the National Registry. No question. « Surprisingly Pleasant Stay »

This hotel is located in a beautiful landmark building. The decor of the lobby and hotel made me feel as if I was staying in someone's home. Lynn, at the front desk was most accommodating. I told her the type of places I was looking for and she knew exactly where to recommend me to go. It also helped that the hotel is located in a prime location, and for $140 a night I think I got the best deal in town.

« Convenient location, fantastic staff »

Stayed overnight here to do some sight-seeing in Philly. Great location, nice hotel, but a truly wonderful staff. They sent us to a restaurant, Prime Stache, that had the best burgers any of us had ever tasted. Our standard room was a little small, but clean and comfy with a great bed.

    « ''Nice" »

We had a very nice stay. The staff was really helpful and professional. The room was small but the high ceilings and size of the bathroom made up for it. The bed was comfy and the room clean. It was in a good location. I would recommend this hotel.

« Great Place to Stay »

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night and loved it. It is centrally located to many historic attractions (The Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, etc.) and lots of restaurants too. It has a historic charm to the hotel, but was clean and modern as well. The breakfast buffet was good--eggs, sausage, oatmeal, muffins, and waffles--with the Liberty Bell in them. The staff was very friendly. I would definitely stay in this hotel when visiting Philadelphia again.

« The perfect place to stay in Old City »

The hotel is conveniently located for visiting the historic sites in the city. You can walk to almost every place that is considered an historic "must see." Carpenter's Hall at night is beautiful and we could see it from the hotel! We were able to walk one block to Market St. and board the Philly Phlash for free with our Medicare card. We traveled for two days getting on and off where ever we wanted to enjoy the holidays "Philly style." The hotel is wonderful and the staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was yummy!

« Quick trip to Philly »

I had to come down for an overnight to make a trip to the Italian Consulate in Philly. We chose the Best Western because we have always had a good experience with these hotels. I was really impressed with the outstanding, personal treatment we received at the Philly location! Bambi checked us in, gave great directions, and kept great snacks out for the guests. The location is wonderful for walking around. Thank you!

« VERY CLEAN, GREAT AND HELPFUL STAFF »

Old historical hotel maintained very nicely. Exceptionally clean. My husband got insomnia and claustrophobia (not related to the hotel) and went to the lobby for several hours in the middle of the night. The night clerk took great care if him.

    « Most Pleasant »

This was my first time in Philly. It was only for one night and I have only one criticism was which was not due in any way to the hotel. The check in was flawless, I was allowed early access to my room, the room was outstanding, very comfortable bed, immaculately clean, amenities superior. At first glance the room seems dated due to the historic status of the building, but once in the room, although perhaps small by some standards it was well maintained. The only downside was my room was facing a major construction project across from the hotel so at 7:00 am the noise started so if you plan on staying here, just request a room away from Chestnut St. At least until the construction stops, which won't be for a while.

« Always enjoy this hotel »

I stayed at this hotel 7 years ago when I traveled from Oklahoma to Philadelphia to visit the Wills Eye Hospital for a diagnosis of melanoma on my retina. We picked this hotel because it was within walking distance of the hospital. Once we arrived we fell in love with the hotel and the surrounding area. The hotel is just a couple of blocks away from the Liberty bell, Independence Hall, Carpenter's hall and lots of historical buildings. This year I had to return to Philadelphia as it appeared my cancer was returning. We picked this hotel again as our base. Again we enjoyed the hotel and the area. Philadelphia is a great city to visit and this hotel makes the visit even better. Hopefully someday I can travel to Philadelphia, stay here and explore more when my mind isn't clouded with worry about new cancer. Thanks to everyone at the hotel for making our stay enjoyable.

« Great location, excellent stay »

Wedding guests stayed here and we did the arranging. The assistance from the hotel was great, and the guests were happy. This is pretty much a couple-per-room place (no doubling up), but it suited the needs of our folks. Breakfasts good, service good. Do investigate the rooms when selecting. This is a great location for strolling - a wonderful neighborhood and close to a LOT of history!

« Personalized Visit to Historic Philadelphia »

I have to say, I really enjoyed this hotel. The staff was exceptional, the breakfast was delicious, the breakfast room was clean and well stocked, the room was nice, clean, and dark, the location was ideal for historic Philadelphia hunting, and the staff was again exceptional, knowledgeable and generally very nice. I highly recommend this hotel!

    « Great location, but...... »

The hotel is in a great location and very central to most attractions and restaurants. I did enjoy our stay however, the room choice given to us was situated next to reception and could hear constant noise coming from the lobby. Every morning At approx 5am I could hear staff talking rather loudly which disturbed my sleep. Other than this the hotel is very well looked after and has a more personal feel about it. There is plenty on offer at breakfast too.

The entire staff was exceptionally friendly and hospitable who went out of their way to make my stay comfortable and pleasant. I felt welcomed here, as if I was visiting a friend. Make sure to check out the staff gingerbread house contest in December!

    « Wonderful Hotel Experience!! »

The receptionist when you first walk in sets the tone for the hotel experience. The receptionist was warm and friendly. My room was ready for me on the fourth floor even tho I arrived well before 3PM.(it was only noon). I had hoped just to store my luggage there but was so happy my room was all set. The room was small but big enough to get around in.It had a chair and a desk , a wing back chair , two end tables, plenty of lamps,an alarm clock, a coffee maker, iron with iron board , a small fridge ,everything one would need. The bathroom was nice and the complimentary toiletries were nice too. My bed was to die for. If I could have hauled it home with me, I would have as it was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. Wonderful pillows too and lots of them. The housekeeping staff was superb. My room was clean, spotless and refreshed every day. The free breakfast was very good. I had fun making my own Liberty Bell waffle!!. There were other options to choose from such as cold or hot cereal with the fixings like granola, brown sugar, almonds and the like. There were danish, english muffins, bread to toast, regular muffins and bagels. Butter, jelly and cream cheese was provided, If that were not enough one could choose from scrambled eggs, and a breakfast meat such as sausage or bacon. With that were biscuits and gravy. Juices, milk, coffees and teas were also available along with fresh fruit, bananas, apples, oranges, and yogurt. The dining staff kept all stations full of food .There was Never any empty stations waiting for any type of food. Fresh fruit was available 24 hours a day in the lobby as well as tea and coffee. Between 4pm and 6 pm hot cookies were also served. The hotel is situated across from Independence Park in the historic district so seeing the sites was a breeze, very easy to get to, I used the Big Bus to hop on and hop off to get to other parts of Philly to see the museums and the first Prison in America. Its a good value. Buy a 2 day bus pass and a 2 day city pass if you are sight seeing, By doing this we saved at least 250.00 on transport and entrance fees. I also went to the Macy's in downtown, It is a huge historic building with marble interior, beautiful wood work and a huge organ . The organist played quite a bit of music and it was just beautiful!! There are many good places to eat in the hotel area, as well as convenience stores and even a market a few blocks away. I loved exploring the neighborhoods and meeting the friendly people of Philly. This city is different than most major cities I have traveled to. It is old, historic and charming . People couldn't be friendlier. Sadly, there is evidence of a homeless population and they are scattered about even in the touristy areas. Sad to see so many homeless women. That being said, I enjoyed my first trip to Philly and will return to this city and to this hotel. I had an absolutely wonderful experience all the way around. Just one more thing, getting to the hotel by train was easy. I left via taxi back to the airport which the reception desk arranged for me the day before my departure, It was a flat rate of 28.50 to the gate!! Not bad at all. Stay at this wonderful hotel . It is cozy, clean, and in a safe neighborhood with helpful, friendly l staff. Enjoy Philly!!

« Excellent homely hotel in perfect location »

This is the second time I have stayed and have thoroughly enjoyed both stays. The property has an excellent location for tourists, within walking distance to Independence Hall and Liberty Bell as well as an amazing range of eateries in 2nd Street which is just around the corner. I stay for work and it's just so easy with parking too and approx. US10 cab ride from 30th St station. But the atmosphere of the hotel is just great also - it feels like an owner-operated boutique hotel where the owner really cares; they were preparing for Christmas and I think it was the owner who was putting up the Christmas tree (live - and smelt so good!) and the restaurant suggestions were spot on. But what I really liked is the small inclusions that most hotels add on that are easy to add without adding to the customers bill! Breakfast is included (simple but yum and plenty of choice), wifi, complimentary tea and coffee not only in the rooms but in the lobby too and afternoon tea with freshly baked cookies (and for Christmas I suspect a hot apple cider) I look forward to my return to Philly and the Best Western Plus!

    5

I was serving on jury duty and spent only one night at Best Western, Independence Park Hotel. I was at another hotel which did not have rooms available for the unexpected third night and I came across Best Western by chance. I had a very nice experience with pleasant accommodations and very friendly and helpful staff. Staff were very helpful in getting me the last available room at a good rate. They also stored my luggage until after my day in court and helped me retrieve it promptly so could catch my train back home. I only had the one continental breakfast, and it was very good, served in a unique dining area with glass ceiling. I recommend trying it out!! It is very conveniently located for touring historic Philadelphia and waterfront.

« Staff from top to bottom were top notch! »

I have never been to a hotel or motel my entire life (74 years!) where I have had service from top to bottom that far exceeded what you could have from anyone else. Whoever you asked for info from, they dropped everything to satisfy you. The breakfast was awesome. Wouldn't hesitate to stay there again, and it is a good possibility we will!

Wonderful location and friendly, helpful staff as others noted, but what impressed me most was the combination of boutique charm and modern amenities. They even have afternoon tea every day! But the doors had modern security locks, the rooms had programmable thermostats, etc. Also the bathrooms were a very generous size. After staying in too many hotels where they are like closets, a nice surprise. Were it not for the fact that the elevator conked out one morning and I had to trudge up & down five flights I would give it five stars.

    « Charming Surprise! »

I was pleasantly surprised to find this more of a boutique hotel with charming decor and a wonderful staff! I was there on business but look forward to staying there for fun in the near future! And it's in a hot spot in downtown Philly so restaurants and cafes are easily accessible on foot! Perfect!

« Excellent stay at Best Western Plus »

Wonderful location near many of the historic sites we wanted to see. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly and the rooms while not large are very clean and well kept. The breakfast was excellent and I appreciate that the tables we already set with silverware and cloth napkins. Parking is close and reasonably priced. My wife and I will definitely stay here on our next trip to Philly!! Art K.

The location in the historic district is perfect for exploring the city. It is only a short drive from the airport. The staff were friendly, the hotel is charming and comfortable and was a great start to our American trip.

    « Great Hotel »

This was a great hotel to enjoy the historic part of Philadelphia-we walked to every attraction easily. The $17 parking fee was very reasonable also. Staff was super helpful and friendly, and the building was beautiful. Will always choose Best Western PLUS Independence Park Hotel when visiting.

« Great location inear National HIstoric Park »

We just spent a Sunday night at BWPlus Independence Park Hotel. It has everything you could want for a visit to the historic area. Everything is within walking distance. We parked our car in the nearby parking garage and never needed it until it was time to leave. Parking at $17/night is a bargain for this area. The King room was a comfortable size for a city hotel, with fridge, microwave, desk and wifi. The breakfast offered something for everyone. Plenty of restaurant possibilities in the area. We would definitely come back to this hotel. We did have an issue with the room being too warm, but we were assured it will be checked out. The staff members were extremely courteous and helpful.

« Fabulous time in Philly »

The staff of this lovely little gem were truly fantastic: warm, very attentive, knowledgeable and eager to help. The room was perfect: clean, comfortable, reasonably priced and spacious. The hotel's location is good too, especially if your main focus is on historic sight-seeing.

    « Fun in Philly »

My husband and I just returned from a five day visit to Philadelphia. After consulting Trip Advisor, we found great reviews for the Best Western Plus Independence Park Hotel. After speaking to the lovely desk clerk ,Bambi, we decided to book our room there. The rate was less than surrounding hotels and we liked the idea of a smaller, boutique type venue. This hotel had loads of charm including a beautiful ,cozy lobby where we enjoyed fruit, cookies, tea, coffee and mulled cider, a large breakfast room and a well appointed queen room with lovely bedding and a modern bathroom. In addition, the staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The location, in the "Old city" was perfect. It is near all of the historic sites and Chestnut Street has a large variety of restaurants, cafes, and bars. The hotel is also in walking distance to the Italian area where we enjoyed the street market and eating at Ralph's, the oldest family-owned Italian restaurant in the U.S! If you go, make sure to visit the National Jewish Museum, the Barnes Foundation, which has an amazing collection of Renoir paintings, and Independence Hall, where the Park Rangers and volunteer guides share their impressive knowledge of our nation's history. We felt safe in Philadelphia and the staff at Independence Park made us feel like family.

« Great location and staff »

Hotel is very easy walking distance from historic sites and surrounded by entertainment district with dozens if not hundreds of great restaurant options. Most rooms are small compared to standard US hotels but normal by European standards for older historic locations. Exceptions are the king bed rooms overlooking the interior courtyard. They are large and very quiet! The rooms are historic (but with nice big tv's) but bathrooms are modern. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Evening desk person was great with restaurant recommendations. We had existing reservations at a Society Hill bed and breakfast so only stayed at Best Western two nights. We regretted moving and in retrospect wished we stayed at Best Western the entire visit!

    « Very enjoyable stay »

This hotel is the place to stay! From our interaction with Bambi at checkin to our departure and checkout with Craig - I couldn't have asked for more personable, helpful people. The area is great, the room was clean and spacious and the breakfast was hot and fresh. Definitely will recommend to all my friends and family!!

« My Wedding Dream Come True »

I booked the "Own The Inn" for my wedding in November 2015. We had every single room in the hotel for our friends and family. Every single one of them was blown away by the opportunity to stay in the most historic hotel in Philadelphia. The rooms were all different shapes and sizes and layouts, but that's part of the charm. I stayed in the bridal suite which was 502... and it was an absolutely stunning room. My parents were in 507 which had a living room and a big king sized bed. It was also beautiful. My bridesmaids shacked up in 501 which had two queens and so much natural light! It was gorgeous. All in all, everything was perfect. Elizabeth who handled our group was on her a-game, very communicative and responsive, and helped us coordinate a guest experience that was second to none (including happy hour, decorating the hotel, and a late night bar for our guests). The breakfast downstairs the next morning was delicious and complementary and waffle-filled... which is about as good as breakfast ever gets! We booked a room to return for our 1 year anniversary, and I'd recommend this hotel to anybody looking to experience authentic Philadelphia charm with modern-day amenities!

« Small room, but clean, comfortable and in a fabulous location. »

As a woman traveling alone from out of town for business, I couldn't have asked for friendlier staff or a safer location in the city. I was directed around the block to a great spot to dine in a unique atmosphere, and staff was also helpful in getting me to my meeting location. The only inconvenience was returning the gate card from the parking garage due to construction taking up space in the street, but it turned out to be fairly simple. Really can't beat the price in such a convenient location!

    « Old world charm »

Situated in the heart of "Old" Pennsylvania this hotel dates back to the 1800's, is a stones throw from all of the historical sites, offers a complimentary breakfast, cheap parking nearby and great staff. It's old - so of course it's a bit on the quaint side but that just adds to the charm. Our room was quiet and comfortable, the free hi-speed wifi was reliable and we enjoyed our time in Boston. If we ever returned - we would stay here again.

« Great location, excellent staff. »

This historic hotel is located in a fabulous spot within old Philadelphia and the staff was truly helpful and professional. I was attending a meeting for business purposes and I specifcally chose this hotel because it enabled me to get up in the morning and tour the landmarks. The breakfast was also excellent.

    « Great hotel »

I stayed here with my partner and a friend while attending a conference at a nearby hotel. The room was comfortable and clean. Although there was construction going on across the street we didn't have any problems with the noise because the windows were well-insulated; the hotel even provided a white noise machine for our convenience. This is actually one of the quieter hotels I've stayed in anyway -- even the internal noise from other guests didn't bother me. Loved the free wifi and the beautiful common spaces. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating -- especially Lynne, who went out of her way to answer all of my questions thoroughly and to make suggestions about interesting places to visit and eat. I would absolutely stay here again the next time I visit Philadelphia!

    « Lovely Spot »

My husband and I stayed here because we wanted to revisit the historical sites of Philadelphia. This hotel is ideally located, right down the street from Independence Hall. It's a classic, lovely old building. It's very nicely decorated and maintained. The staff was terrific. The room was small, but clean and comfortable. I'm sure they have rooms with a view of the street, which might be more interesting than the alley view we had, but it was certainly quiet. We enjoyed our stay and would return.

    « Perfect location »

Stayed here because we were attending an event in Camden. Perfect location for food and drinks. Room was small but clean and comfortable. They had a parking garage close by which was relatively convenient. Cookies at check in was nice. Would stay here again. Great liberty bell waffles for breakfast!

    « Great find! »

Independence Park Hotel: a 5 star gem- perfect for the discerning guest seeking the personal touch. An historic boutique hotel, centrally located in the heart of old Philadelphia, within easy walking distance of both historical sights and waterfront attractions. Cordial, accommodating, knowledgeable manager and staff to meet your every need. Well-designed, tasteful, appealing decor throughout. Highly recommended for a unique visit to a unique city.

« Great base for visiting Philadelphia »

We were looking for a hotel close to the historic sites, and within easy walking distance of public transportation. This very comfortable boutique / historical site hotel met both requirements. The Liberty Bell and the Independence National Historical Park are a few blocks away. The bus stop (#38) for the Barnes Collection, the Rodin Museum and the Philadelphia Art Museum is a couple of blocks away. The fast and efficient subway has a stop two blocks away. Taxis in the city are plentiful and have a reasonable fare, in comparison with most other major cities. The hotel provides free hot breakfast and a fast free internet. We were particularly impressed with the care the management and staff have for their guests. For example, there is major construction going on across the street, and our room faced it. We found a notice in our room advising us of this, and providing a "white noise" device that we could use to muffle construction noise. In fact, we never needed it, as the double windows kept noise to a minimum - even blocking the street sounds of happy Halloween party-goers. The rooms are small, but well-appointed and are well-maintained. This hotel is listed as an historic site/hotel. A great place to stay in Philadelphia.

Great , clean, comfortable hotel, ideally located in the Old City. Convenient to walk to major sites and museums. Very knowledgable staff on the area and very helpful with any questions/needs. Bed was slightly uncomfortable, but that may be a personal opinion.

« Great Hotel, Great Price »

The staff at this hotel is among the most friendly and helpful that I have encountered. The price was decent especially for the price. A very good option if you're in Philly. Has parking available as well with a very competitive price point. Free breakfast and internet are nice as well.

    « Best Hotel staff »

This is a small boutique hotel in the historic district of Philadelphia. The rooms are clean although small you have everything you need. The hotel is very quiet. All history is within walking distance in a safe and friendly neighborhood. Right out the door are many choices for restaurants and coffee and activities. The staff, without exception were friendly and welcoming. It was obvious that they loved their jobs and they loved and took pride in this historic hotel.

« Really made me feel at home! »

I was recently in Philadelphia for a week on business, and generally have my hands tied as to where I can stay because of state policies. Knowing that I wanted somewhere safe, clean and comfortable, I checked the reviews on TripAdvisor to see which hotels would work. The Best Western Plus Independence Park rated highly on TripAdvisor, and was allowed. Thank goodness! It was the perfect place for me! This is a small boutique hotel in the middle of the historic district of Old City Philadelphia. There are so many great restaurants within a 3 block radius; you are adjacent to Independence National Historical Park; the rooms are well appointed and very clean; breakfast is included (including waffles imprinted with the Liberty Bell!); and the staff are the friendliest, most accommodating people! We arrived on a Sunday night, parked the car directly in front of the hotel in the two loading zone spots while we checked in, and got the parking pass for the Ritz Garage on 2nd Street (about a block away). We did not have issues with the construction being done across the street, except that the power got cut off for a couple of hours on Monday - the staff were so apologetic, even though it wasn't their fault, and while they helped some travelers find accommodations elsewhere, we elected to wait it out. It gave us an opportunity to meet and talk to some of the staff (Lynn and Adam), and they were gracious and entertaining hosts. Another example of how the staff care about their guests here is that they gave each guest who stayed through the blackout a letter of apology and a generous treat! Totally unexpected! Other touches at this hotel that warmed my heart: a refrigerator and microwave in every room; cookies and tea every afternoon, wine and cheese reception on Wednesday evenings, hot mulled apple cider, coffee, and tea in the lobby, and fantastic wireless internet service. I am SO glad I was able to stay here for the week. It truly felt like I had a home to return to after each day's work, and I actually hope I have to go back to Philly because I would love the chance to stay here again! Thank you to all the staff for their contribution - from the ladies who kept the breakfast area clean and well stocked, to the maintenance staff person who stayed through the night to insure our safety while the power was out, to the housekeeping staff who took good care of my room, and the friendly staff at the front desk who were knowledgeable about the area and provided excellent customer service. Two suggestions: flavored creamers for the coffee, and slightly longer cords for the hair dryers! Thanks for an excellent stay!

    « Good Experience »

Even before and after I arrived the staff were extremely helpful in guiding me how to navigate around the city to get to my conference the following day. The hostess in the evening was especially helpful and gave good advice in traveling the most economical way. This reduced my anxiety. Because I arrived late she gave me big plate of cheese, fruit, and crackers. Top notch staff. Great breakfast.

« Great location, great staff »

This was the second time I've used this hotel for business travel, both stays were great. Staff is excellent, lots of things to do and see within a short walking distance. Parking is kind of tricky, but I think that is just Philadelphia in general ...

    « Expectations Exceeded »

From the time we arrived and were greeted by Facilities Engineer Joe, until the moment of our departure, we felt as though we were with friends versus with typical hotel staff. We had such fun interfacing with at least 10 different staff. The location was great. We could walk to any of the historical sites within minutes. Plenty of great eating places nearby. This was our favorite lodging place in our two-week vacation.

« This hotel is a "Jewell" in the middle of everything historic that Phialdelphia has to offer »

Our room was very well appointed and the comforts were everywhere. They missed nothing! The coffee, the soaps & amenities, the hair dryer and all the rest. Most comfortable were the beds and the pillows. The heating and air conditioning system was more residential. No noisy window unit, it was the real deal, thermostat and all. The location was second to none as was their "free" breakfast worth about $20. p/p anywhere else. Everyone loved it! We have found our new home away from home. The location of this hotel was superb, every historical site is a short distance, as is Independence Hall, just up the street. Every restaurant cuisine imaginable and all surrounding the hotel. The employees were more like family than employees. They love what they do and where they do it. No one could can't fake their sincere caring for their guests! You can feel that it is real.

« Perfect high school senior history trip »

I brought my high school history students to Philadelphia and we spent the night in the Best Western on Chestnut street. This hotel added to the pleasure of our trip. Check-in was easy because of the wonderful, friendly, helpful staff. The room was comfortable and the location could not be more perfect for all the sights we planned to see.

    « AWESOME Staff! »

This hotel is within 4 blocks of everything historical Philadelphia has to offer. The staff here was so accommodating and friendly. They held our room bacuase our plane came in late. We travel a lot but this hotel rates very high with us. Even though it does not have a restaurant attached there are several on the same block. Surprising for Philadelphia they have a fantastic Mexican Restaurant two doors down. Try it if you like Mexican food.

« Much more than we expected! »

Delightful staff, very comfortable bed in a lovely room, right in the heart of historical Philadelphia. Great restaurants a short walk away. Most of the major American historical sights within walking distance. Couldn't ask for more.

« Pretty good but a bit pricey for level of service »

The hotel is overall very good. The only knock on it is considering the price I would expect a higher level of service - helping with bags from the car, etc. The hotel is very convenient and very comfortable - it is just hard to justify almost $300 per night. Next time I will look at the competition.

    « wonderful Philadelphia experience »

Excellent location for sightseeing - close to so many historic sites and within walking distance of shopping and numerous other areas of attraction. The staff at this hotel is top-notch! Everyone of them was friendly, cheerful, and so very helpful with any request. They were great! The room itself was small, but that is due to being a historic landmark building which we loved. It is a beautiful hotel; quiet, well-appointed, and comfortable.

Hotel accommodations we're very nice, comfortable, welcoming and charming. Will definitely stay here again when we come back to Philly

« Classic Hotel in Old City »

Very comfortable and affordable. Minor problems with room heat and the clothes iron that was provided. The staff was very helpful. Within walking distance of Independence Hall and convention center. One current challenge for guests (over which the hotel has no control) is that major construction is occurring across the street. It's supposed to be finished by late 2016. In the interim, the hotel is providing "white noise" machines to muffle the sound.

    5
« The trip advisor reviews were absolutely correct! »

This historic building was such a treat! The personnel were friendly and helpful. We loved the high ceilings and tall beds & just imagined what it must have been like in the 1700's. Hot apple cider greeted us in the lobby - yum!

« stayed there on vacation »

Had to leave one day early for family emergency, front desk gentleman was not helpful at all concerning the bill. We were finally told that if the room was not booked for that day we would be charged a $100.00 fee which we understood. We were not given any type of bill when we left. When the bill was sent via email we had been charged the full amount. I have tried to speak to the manager to correct this, but have been unable. At this time we will not be giving a good review or staying at one of your hotels again.

« Great Central Location for Historic Philadelphia »

We arrived in Philadelphia prior to attendance at the NASAP Conference, to be able to enjoy the central city Historic sites. The hotel is perfectly placed for this activity, which brought back memories for my wife who visited in her youth. It is a short distance from the tour bus terminus, allowing a great way of seeing the larger view of the city, with informed bus guides giving great overview of the city and its history. It is possible to hop on and off, at points one wishes to visit, so have a look at the bus route before the tour. The service within the hotel was very friendly and relaxed. Highly recommended!

« Temple Parents Weekend Stay »

Hotel is what we expected it to be. Queen size bed suite was extremely small and the bed seemed more of a full size to us. King room was very spacious. 2 Queen bed room was very spacious although the beds are more full size.

    3
    « Great Location - Poor Service »

The hotel is close to all of the historical sites and only a short drive to the airport. Parking is located about a block from the hotel with easy in/out access using the hotel's parking pass. Rooms are small, but are clean, quiet, and comfortable with all of the usual amenities. Breakfast is very basic (cereal, waffles, instant oatmeal, etc.) but there are a couple of other options in the area if you don't mind the cost. With the exception of the breakfast team, the hotel staff added zero value during our visit and seemed bothered at most times to have guests at the hotel. Eye contact was rarely made and the staff did not acknowledge our presence unless we initiated the conversation.

« Great Customer Service in a Wonderful Area »

We loved staying in this hotel! First of all, Lynn is great! She is so helpful for tips about the area. It's nice to see a friendly face when you have questions. The waterfront is a very short walk away. Lots of restaurants in the area. Walking distance to Liberty Bell area, Betsy Ross house, and much more. The rooms are a little small, but nice and cozy. Bathroom a good size. Everything was very clean. It was nice to have the cookies and tea in the afternoon and the free breakfast was a plus! They took care of getting us a cab back to airport and it was only a 5 min. wait at best! We would definitely stay here again.

« Beautiful Hotel and Great Staff »

I stayed at the Best Western Plus Independence Park for work and truthfully wasn't expecting much from the hotel. I was completely blown away by the experience. The hotel itself was charming in an historic row house. The room was small but nicely furnished and looked/felt nicer than a typical Best Western. My only complaint was that the elevator was slow, so I took the stairs. The staff was so nice and friendly. They even stopped me on my way in that evening to make sure my room was how I wanted it and to see if there was anything they could do to make the stay better. The afternoon tea and cookies was a delightful surprise and breakfast was delicious. I also loved that they had complimentary tea, coffee, and water available 24/7.

I cannot say enough about my excellent experience at this hotel. The staff were beyond helpful and friendly. I've worked in the service industry my entire life and appreciate truly caring service. In addition, the room was spectacularly clean and comfortable, the breakfast was great, and I enjoyed the hot coffee, tea, and apple cider that was always available. A++ rating - this is my new Philly hotel.

    « Spoiled by a rude receptionist »

The trip was marred by the rudest person working in hospitality that I've ever encountered. She was so rude that other guests were raising eyebrows at each other. Clearly she is in the wrong job! The rest of the staff were nice and the hotel was quite nice but the room was small and the fridge was broken.

« Great location in the old city »

This was a traditional and classic hotel. The room we had was large and comfortable and the staff were all very helpful and personable. They were more than happy to assist us, give recommendations about the city and they booked a taxi for us for the morning we departed. Breakfast varied day to day and there was an excellent waffle-maker.

« Cozy and great customer service »

Since we made the reservation we felt the excellent customer service oriented of the people that work here. The reception on the check in was very helpful, then they have tea and cookies, later wine and cheese, and complimentary buffet breakfast. We were quite happy with the lodging as well

    « Better than expected »

First time in Philly. Chose this hotel because of TripAdvisor reviews. Wanted something close to the sights and to parking. A little concerned when we pulled up to the very discreet entrance and saw the construction across the street. We were warned about this thanks to reviews but wasn't expecting it to be in spitting distance. Hotel was great about temporary parking to unload. Emailed me a temp parking pass which was convenient. Room was clean with large TV, microwave and small fridge. Easy walk to Visitor Center, Independence Hall, Liberty Bell and Penns Landing. Parking structure was about 2 blocks away and hotel gave us free parking pass. My room faced Chestnut Ave. so it wasn't a pretty view with the Construction across the small, narrow street. Work across the street ended at sundown. Started up again about 7 ish in the morning which worked out as we needed to be up anyway. Expect construction to continue for quite sometime but it didn't put a damper on our stay. Plenty of places to eat near the hotel. Staff was friendly, wifi worked great. We would stay here again.
