    « Nice Hotel. »

We were a bit concerned after booking to find a number of negative reviews. Shouldn't have been as we had a first class visit. We had booked for two nights only for my wife's 'special birthday' treat but had to leave on the second day as an unexpected issue made us return home. However our general impression during our short stay was very positive. Staff were all very friendly and appeared very professional and relaxed. Bar was comfortable and we enjoyed a pre-dinner drink there. Dinner was very good ..... three courses accompanied by a nice bottle of red served in the elegant Georgian restaurant. Breakfast was also very good with a number of choices of hot food served to the table and 'help yourself' to cereal, fruit etc We opted for the Welsh Breakfast which was hot and plentiful. Tea/coffee was also served to the table. Our room was in the main building looking over the side of the hotel and ,I think, above the kitchen as we did hear the fans starting in the early morning but this was not an issue for us as we are early risers but could be an inconvenience for others. The room was a nice size and very clean. Complimentary toiletries were available in the bathroom and tea and coffee in the room. The room was well heated which was just as well as we arrived during storm Angus. We didn't see the other room offers or use the spa during our short visit but our experience of what we were offered would certainly mean that we would consider this hotel if we visit the area again. All in all a nice hotel but it could do with a bit of a face lift in a few places but has loads of character which is what we like.

« Lovely setting, fab staff but booking system let them down »

I booked a night at this hotel several weeks ago as a special treat for my elderly disabled mother so that she could have a rare night away whilst visiting family in the area. Before booking I phoned to check that they could accommodate us in a ground floor room with parking close by. This was all arranged and I was told by the helpful receptionist, Catherine, that we would be accommodated in a studio room with parking next to the room. When we arrived, the hotel was in a lovely setting and looked impressive as we drove up the drive. I left mum in the car and went to book in. Sadly there was no record of our special requests and we had been put in a first floor double (not twin) bedroom! There is no lift in the hotel and no way mum would manage the stairs. Fortunately I had a print out of the request (which I had followed up in writing) and also, Catherine remembered our conversation and my booking. Fortunately the hotel was not fully booked and she was able to find us a family room. She did her best but this was not a good start. The room was a little tired and initially smelled a little damp which worried me but once we had settled in was actually very cosy. Having said that, there were 5 steps up to the room and the only way to get to dinner and breakfast was to drive to the front of the hotel and get mum to climb up the entrance stone steps. She managed but if she had been in a wheelchair or had been having a bad day with her mobility (which is often the case) we would have had to have eaten in our room. All of this aside, the staff were excellent and I definitely got the impression that it was the booking system that let us down rather than the staff. Dinner was plentiful and delicious - mum had soup and I had mushrooms then mum had gammon and I had tarragon chicken - would have liked a little more sauce but very yummy.Breakfast was also excellent and staff were really attentive. I didn't get the chance to try the spa sadly. All in all, friendly, accommodating and a pleasant stay but it could have been a disaster - we were lucky.

    « Total relaxation »

Stayed for the wkend July 15th 2016. My sister & I had a perfect few days using the Spa facility every day and also indulged in a few treatments which were lovely. The hotel is situated in a splendid location and is quite 'downtown abbey' like. The decor is elegant and very comfortable and the staff all very friendly and welcoming . Our room was very comfortable ,clean and we enjoyed breakfast ,evening meals and a few drinks throughout our stay. We didn't bother to venture out beyond walking through the gardens as it was a total escape from work/reality and much needed girlie time. We will definitely return as we were so relaxed and would highly recommend to anyone.

    « Not impressed »

My review is only based on the spa facilities. I don't think the staff there are very helpful of friendly. I visited yesterday and tried to become a member of the Spa and was told I had to fill out a form and the Manager would sign it off the day after. I wanted to use the facilities there and then but was told I couldn't until the manager had signed the form. There was only 2 people I could see in the pool and considering it was a Monday and it was very quiet, I thought they would have been glad of the money for me to use the facilities. I had previously been there a few weeks ago and had a spa treatment and bought some of there products which I spent a considerable amount of money. The lady I spoke to yesterday was the one who did my spa treatment and you would have thought she might had been more helpful. There loss as I've gone somewhere else to use these facilities and somewhere where they allow you to use the pool everyday if you pay the standing charge. When I came home I looked on the net for other places where I could use the pool and was pleasently surprised by how helpful the people at a Spa in Lydstep and Laugharne were, and that they would allow me to use the facilities every day without being a member as long as I paid the daily charge for use of the facilities. Also it's nearer for me to travel so Lamphey's loss and someone else's gain I'd say.

    « Very bad food »

On the first night for dinner we were given the lunch menu and I ordered chipolatas but instead I got meat and chips. Two of the people I went with were given uncooked potatoes. The second night we got the right menu but some of the food tasted funny and was uncooked. We decided to eat somewhere else on the third night. The rooms were ok and there was a nice swimming pool. I think the hotel was ok but they need to improve the food, A LOT.

    « Hotel well worth a visit »

Hotel staff excellent, restaurant staff not so good but tried their best. The spa staff were superb and very helpful. We stayed for a long weekend recently and had a lovey time, relaxing in the spa, walking in the beautiful gardens and area near by - stackpool which is a must see. Barafundle Beach is also worth a walk to as it has been voted one of the best beaches in Wales. Overall 10/10...

    « Excellent »

What a wonderful stay ! Second time we have been here this year and we loved it! This time round though I must say the customer service was sooooo much better, and Rhodri is a credit to have on your team! He's brilliant at his job and should be noted. We didn't have a meal on the evening this time round so can't comment on it , but the breakfast was Fantastic! Can not wait to go back again. Spa is lovely and relaxing and get given a towel which is very handy . This is our favourite place to stay on our getaway from the children . We also visited the ruins of the bishops palace which was lovely on a dry autumns day , and it's just near the hotel . Very easy route into Tenby too . Brilliant thanks x

    « Wonderful Centre »

We stayed three nights as part of a "Great Little Breaks" trip. It is a beautiful building with superb facilities. The swimming pool and gym are well run and worth using. We had an excellent dinner and the breakfasts were fresh and varied. The service throughout our stay was perfect, a lovely friendly staff who were all prepared to go the "extra yard" We stayed in Room 5 which was spacious with lovely views. Our experience was certainly a lot better than the other reviewers. It is also worth visiting the palace next door. It is the first time we have visited Pembroke shire and we certainly will be back.

    « wedding meal »

Leak and potato soup. No flavour at all I think it was made for five people and then watered down so much that it tasted of nothing at all. The main meal frozen roast potatoes were served that were so hard that a fee guests lost theirs off the plate. Some people did not even have all the veg on their plates and considering there was only two bits of carrot and a couple of green beans it was not too hard to miss. I was on the top table as the brides mother and my husband and I did not even get our starter until I asked for it by which time some had finished theirs. The sweet which was cherry cheesecake was the worst of all as the cherries had not even had the stones removed which I thought was dangerous and neglect on their part. Plates were brought in for the wedding cake after everyone had been told to clear the room so that it could be altered for the evening. The evening buffet was no better although I can not comment on the food because there was not enough of it, my husband and I did not manage to get any it was gone so we had a bowl of cereal when we got home.

    « Don't book a wedding here »

Went here for a family wedding and myself and all the other guests were shocked at the standard of food they supplied for the main meal and buffet. Main meal cost £1000 for 30 guests...3 small Frozen roast potatoes under cooked veg,(half a carrot and 4 green beans) hardly any gravy and dry chicken! Then the buffet..which cost £650 for 30 guests, 2 bowls of crisps!! 2 trays of pizza, Sausage rolls & sandwiches oh and 1 bowl of coleslaw, The bride was very upset with the standard of food and when complained to the lady that was working that night she had not answers and her attitude was shocking. In her words....well u'll just have to take it up with Paul and he's gone home! Avoid!!

« The worst meal I have ever been served »

My wife and I visited this hotel with fond memories of a previous stay. What a disappointment! We were greeted with the news that the only menu available on Sunday evening was the Sunday lunch menu. That would not have been too bad if they had not also served the food from Sunday lunch. I obviously cannot be sure but the roast lamb, in Wales of all places, was like cardboard, the roast potatoes were warm and rock hard and the gravy, if that is what was, gelatinous. The carrots were warm and soft but the broccoli and cauliflower was uncooked and cold. Around us we could hear a string of other complaints being made and we also, did as we sent our food back. The maitre d' agreed that we would not be charged for the meal. We hen we checked out this morning the hotel tried to charge the full amount but did adjust the bill after I protested. However that is not the point. A truly awful experience; we will not return.

    « 5 night stay »

Just finished a 5 night stay and have to agree with many of the comments from other reviews both good and bad. The West wing corridor did have a dank smell, all the fixtures and fittings are a little tired, the restaurant menu was basic and changed little over our stay - some meals excellent others could be better. Our Sunday night was not good, we had to wait a long time for each course and some items were missing until requested, do not have the red onion tarte tatin. But on the positive side we had a lovely stay, our room was comfortable and warm, most of the staff were helpful and friendly. The highlight was the Spa, especially Kays massages and Laura's luxury manicure and pedicure. So three stars for the hotel and five for the spa

« Great bargain stay, Great location and perfect spot for Pembs break »

We booked a 2 night break with a "Secret" discount website for our anniversary, reading the existing reviews on here I wasn't expecting much. But pleased to find that it was a great hotel and offered lots more positives than negatives. Would stay here again and recommend to friends and family. At the end of the driveway is Lamphey Palace, a great attraction and well kept grounds. The drive to Tenby, Pembroke and local attractions is easy making the hotel a great base for exploring. The Hotel Pulling into the grounds of the hotel gives a pretty good impression a grand building overlooking some great countryside. Open the heavy door into reception to be greeted by the front of house team, they were busy when we arrived checking in a family booking but asked us to take a seat and was soon checked in and given the details for our room. The hotel is well kept and is better than the pictures make out, even the hotels own pictures aren't the best at showing the quality of the building, rooms and spa. Plenty of parking throughout the stay. The Room We had room 231, part of the courtyard rooms. A very generous room upstairs in the courtyard just a short walk from the main hotel. Opening the door you are presented with a hallway, bathroom on the left and then a spacious room at the end of the hallway. The bathroom was modern, clean and in great condition including a large corner bath/shower. The room had a large bed, two armchairs (one I believe to be a fold out sofa). Desk with chair, large wardrobe with iron and plenty of storage. TV with freeview channels. Wifi was a good strong signal throughout the hotel, especially in the room. Username is Guest and then your email address. Tea and coffee facilities, biscuits and two bottles of water. One negative, we did have a lot of dead flies on our window sill when we arrived, not sure if it was just being in the country and the time of year, but cleared them out and not a problem after that. The Service Generally the service was good, the front of house team were polite and even when training a new starter things still moved quickly. The restaurant was a different matter, the manager (I think) and girl with pony tail did most of the work, and a girl with glasses looked unimpressed with most things and spent more time avoiding people than serving, there was a blonde girl there the first day that had a similar hide and seek approach. Despite the two decent members of staff running around in circles things were a bit slow at times, having to ask for brown sauce for your breakfast, or a steak knife with your evening meal was a little tricky with them so busy. Others made more of a fuss about the service, it depends on how fussy/demanding you are for 4 star service. The Food Breakfast is basic, the "Welsh" breakfast was a poor English breakfast, no Welsh items added (cockles or laverbread) - just call it an English breakfast! It had one sausage, one piece of bacon, one hash brown, black pudding, half a tomato and mushrooms. You do have a selection of other items to choose including Salmon and Eggs Benedict. A selection of cereal, pastries, yogurt and fruit also. Evening Meal was better, but the same grumpy girl let the team down, service was muddled but the food was a good quality. We overheard some awkward customers moaning about an item not being available and they handled the complaints very well, making adjustments to the menu to support their needs. Steak was a good quality and the wine was pretty good too. The Drink The small bar area is nice, comfortable with a few people in but if it got any busier could get a bit crowded. TV playing the soaps and strictly if that is your thing. A separate lounge area offered more seating and comfortable for more of a conversation or reading. The guy serving at the bar was very good, fast service and covered both bar and restaurant drinks orders. Prices were as expected with an order of white wine (med glass) and a local ale around £7.50. Bottle of wine from £16 upwards. The Facilities The spa was good, didn't have a massage or any of the treatments but could see the staff were busy with different people throughout our stay. The pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna were all in the same area and nice to unwind after a day exploring. The sauna wasn't that warm, but steam room was more than enough. There were a couple of teenagers in the pool being idiots, and despite the spa having cameras and a view from reception nothing was done to stop them. The spa does operate a no children time restriction, but this wouldn't kick out the teenagers that want to splash and play wrestling in a spa hotel! Overall Lamphey court was a great and affordable break, service on the whole was good, room was nice and location was perfect. 4 star by Visit Wales and AA, I think is pretty accurate, could do with a bit of tightening up here and there if I'm honest to keep it 4 star, but generally a good hotel for a short break.

    « Spa and 1 night stay »

Overall it was a pleasant stay. Kay in the spa provides a top notch massage, Rhodri who runs the restaurant is a brilliant host and the food was very good. Unfortunately the break was stained by the arrogance of the front desk manager, the bill was £60 out and when we asked to clarify the bill further, we were given stinking patronizing attitude. Overall the hotel was lovely .. maybe a course in customer service wouldn't go amiss.

« Spa and Hotel Break »

Wonderful three day stay in a lovely peaceful setting. Comfortable rooms, but the highlight was the spa, Kay and her team of therapists could not have been more helpful. Laura's foot massage was the best ever!

« Best Western Lamphey Court Hotel, Pembroke, Wales »

We had a spacious room which was clean. Spa facilities very good. Dinner menu disappointing for anyone who is a vegetarian: only 2 choices of main course. I was informed the menu does not change regularly and although there are 'specials' this appeared to be only a choice of a soup and a fish dish and did not change daily.

    « All ok. »

Impressive building set in impressive grounds. For its star rating the room was OK but nothing more, likewise the breakfast and the dining area. A comfortable weekend stay. We were annoyed that the hotel failed to notify us of the Iron Man Triathlon event whereby the hotel Road was going to be blocked at 8.30 that Sunday morning. We found out for ourselves fortunately. Hotel has since apologised. An OK hotel that I would recommend

    « Kind of Disappointed »

We arrived and were greeted by Carly, who is wonderful and very helpful. Our first room was a bit disappointing as we had no contact with the front desk as the phone didn't work. For some reason we had trouble flushing the toilet as well. By this point we had been on the road for quite a while and were realizing that a double room could mean anything from a small double bed to a queen to a king. So i asked if we could be moved because of the toilet and phone thing and said only if the bed is not smaller, as we had a queen. So while we were out, our things were shifted to a new room, which was ok, but the bed smaller! We only had one night left, so we stuck it out. Most of the staff were great; nothing to do with them, but the place feels a little bruised and battered. As we were almost into October there may have not been too many people staying there but our second evening I had to literally go to the kitchen and ask if someone could please come and serve us a drink at the bar. This was after my husband had asked the lady at the front desk for help, who seemed to be not too interested in helping, saying she had just "sent her on an errand". When we finally did get a pint, we sat in the lounge and looked around at a collection of furniture items that looked like they needed a good steam clean. It was fine, I think the staff do the best they can with what they have, but it was not up to the places we had stayed all over the rest of our trip, and in the same ball park in terms of cost.

    « Bad customer Service »

I recently purchased a voucher for a month through the Lamphy Spa website which goes through to Impact and paid £42.00 for it and then I had a phone call a few days later saying the voucher was for a twelve month direct debit and did I realise - no because I paid by card and there was no mention of a direct debit so how were they going to take one!! Since I spoke to the gentleman concerned it has been taken off of their website and the minimum purchase is for three months. I asked him to honour it - his answer our computer system won't accept it!! What terrible customer service! He told me to contact Impact and ask for a refund I have tried ringing with no success and have sent a couple of emails and as yet have not received a reply! I will be taking the matter further!

    « Anniversary trip »

We have just returned from a very enjoyable stay at the hotel. The room we stayed in was lovely, with beautiful views over the countryside. The room was clean and spacious and had a lovely large bathroom. The staff at the hotel are lovely, they gave a warm welcome and the check in was quick and simple. The bar is a very comfortable room and the young lad in the bar area very pleasant. The waiting staff in the restaurant were lovely and the food was delicious. I give 10/10 for whoever made the cheesecake, it was to die for. All in all a very enjoyable weekend. Thank you to Paul the hotel manager, we didn't get to meet with you as you were busy but we appreciate the effort that you pout into making our say a very enjoyable one. Kind regards - Chris and Judith

    « Such a disappointment! »

I stayed at this hotel at the end of September with my wife for our wedding anniversary. I was greeted by a very rude middle aged man which I think was the manager of the hotel who refused to help carry our suit cases up to our room as there was not lift, his words were "do it yourself" from then I knew this week was going to be a disappointment. My first impressions of the room was absolutely shocking as there was a hamster left in there from a previous guest. I went straight to the reception and the young receptionist said "I thought he was welcome as there was an extra £10 per night pet charge on the room" at this point I was raging in anger and asked to move room, the young lady moved myself and my wife to a courtyard room. The room was ok, very shabby and needs to be updated! Our experience in the restaurant was shocking, the kitchen was out of all food apart from the pate!!! I don't know what sort of kitchen runs out of all food at 6pm on a Thursday evening??? As for the spa, I don't even know where to start. What a poor excuse of a spa!!! The spa was a complete mess with no staff to be seen, no towels or robes left for any guests. After phoning reception a young lady came from the hotel to get us some towels as there was no clean ones left she offered us to use a curtain to dry ourselves!!! I have never been so confused or shocked in my life, I was speechless. Over all I was so disappointed in our experience I asked to speak to the manager. I was told I was unable to as he was too busy, after this I went back to my room and seen the manager having a fag in the car park!!! Not very busy from what I seen. Later on this evening I packed my stuff and left. I was told by the manager I was unable to be refunded due to hotel policy. This place is an absolute joke!!! Avoid it at all costs!!!

    « A tired, formerly grand, hotel. »

Clearly magnificent in its day, set in a beautiful location surrounded by rich, agricultural pasture, Lamphey Hotel has become tired. I was disappointed that the bathroom was unclean (smeared rather than cleaned) with the odd human hair still attached to tiles and the shower head repaired with silicone sealant. The West wing had a dank odour to it. The spa was lovely- the bits that were in working order. Such a shame that the Sauna was not working and steam room cold on our first morning, though repaired by the end of our stay. We wouldn't return.

    3
    « Spa day »

Went for a spa day with my daughters. Really enjoyed the day. Kay at the spa was particularly helpful.Spa was of a high standard and very clean. Afternoon tea was in the hotel and included in spa day. Staff were courteous and attentive. Will return soon!

« Spa day and afternoon Tea »

I took mam to the spa as her birthday present. Went for the "me time, tea time" deal and we both had never had a facial before. When we had our treatments they were amazing and we both really enjoyed. The spa was basic and unfortunately the sauna was out of order but we still enjoyed and felt totally relaxed. We used the pool, jacuzzi and steam room were fab and we chilled out on the sun beds. I would highly recommend going to this place. We both really enjoyed and would definitely go back.

    « Not good n- staff problems »

I booked a room recently for a young couple who had got married, I paid for the booking. I then rang later and said that the couple would be having a meal in the restaurant and that I would pay for it. They took my card details and promptly completely ignored me and demanded the young couple pay for their meal. I rang the next day and asked what had happened - the receptionist on the desk spent nearly half an hour saying it wasn't her fault there was a new computer system and she had only had 6 hours training on it!! etc. etc., eventually saying it was the fault of the waitress in the restaurant. I said I wasn't happy with such a response and asked her to find out what had happened and ring me back - she didn't. I rang again and spoke to someone else who passed the buck and said she knew nothing as she worked in the kitchen and the receptionist was "not in today" - she said she would ring me tomorrow, of course she didn't. The staff are rude and continually pass the buck. If you are thinking of booking I would advise DONT.

    3
    « It's got character »

I have to say I absolutely loved the character of this hotel. The bar and sitting areas were great. The room was a good size. However, we only had one towel in our room, the handle fell off the shower when I got in and I couldn't control the temperature, the fitness room had nice equipment but hardly any of the life fitness touch screens worked. Additionally, there were no towels in the fitness room and the drinking water in there was literally warm to hot. I don't know about others but hot water is not refreshing when your working out.

« Spa day and treatment »

I was bought a voucher for a spa day, Swedish massage and afternoon tea and used it last weekend as a treat and a break from my usually busy life. It was amazing. Although the facilities were pretty basic they did the job and I found myself in a peaceful retreat for most of the day. Plenty if sun loungers around the pool to just relax with a book and cold water (supplied). The sauna, steam room and jacuzzi were adequate. The massage was amazing and the afternoon tea and service was spot on. I would definitely go again to use their facilities and maybe take my trainers next time to use the gym!

    4
    « Great country retreat »

After reading the comments on Trip Advisor, we were a bit skeptical about staying at Lamphey Court for the weekend. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful, very well kept grounds and a warm, inviting foyer area. Our room was clean, spacious and in keeping with the rest of the hotel. Staff were great, food was great (especially the steak). Our only very minor negative is that the spa pool was quite cold, but that just meant we spent more time in the jacuzzi! If you want an ultra modern hotel, this probably isn't for you, but if you want somewhere in the country, lovely and quiet, with sheep for neighbours, this place is ideal!

    4
    « Good facilities »

I booked a room here on a non-refundable, non-amendable rate and when I wanted a change (caused by an error on on their website) they were having none of it. Staff lacked the personal touch. Still the stay was good overall, mostly because of the pool.

    4
« Needs a little tlc but otherwise enjoyable stay »

i have to admit I was a little dubious about staying here after reading some of the reviews - so much so we decided to pay extra by booking through an intermediary rather than direct as we wanted to ensure we stayed in the main hotel rather than the coach houses (experience at other hotels have taught me staying in the annex rarely ends well) The decor is a little tired and the hotel could benefit from a lick of paint but our room was clean and complete with tea & coffee making facilities as well as free wifi. The furniture is what is known as 'brown' furniture but having stayed in world famous hotels with similar furniture that didn't bother me at all. We were greeted warmly on arrival and when we went to the restuarant again we were served promptly. We were given just the right amount of attention - we never had to seek out a waiter nor wish they'd disappear! The food was lovely and filling so much so we skipped dessert. My only suggestion (apart from the hotel needing a lick of paint) would be to relook at the breakfast options; we were on a room only rate and whilst I appreciate that we needed to pay for breakfast separately I objected to paying £13 for toast as I don't particularly like a cooked breakfast.....so much so I chose to skip breakfast whereas I would have happily paid for a non cooked breakfast option.

    4
    « Pleasantly surprised . . . .considering some of the reviews »

Can't say the reviews reflected what we found. Everything was fine! Probably helped that we stayed in the main house, rather than the coach house. Staff were friendly and service was good - even though they were flat out and full on the Ironman weekend. Nice selection in the restaurant morning and evening.

« Quite a pleasant stay but a few issues »

Overall we had a pleasant stay, the room was clean, the spa was lovely, the location was beautiful and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. There were just a few issues that could be improved on to make this a 'very good' stay. Firstly, the glasses and cups were never clean, one morning at breakfast I had to ask for a new cup as there was lipstick on the outside. And secondly, my friend had an issue with a treatment in the spa which still, one week on from our departure has not been dealt with and she is still waiting for a call from the mamanger. This wouldn't stop me coming here again, but it just seems as though a few simple changes would make this a great place to stay.

    « Lack of service... »

During a recent ladies get together that involved 16 paying ladies, afternoon tea with prosecco, from 3pm onwards....I was disappointed to note the sheer lack of service or the feeling of 'being looked after'. No one checked to see if we were ok all day (3pm - 11pm)! All the ladies had to go to the bar, no one cleaned the tables unless asked directly. The hotel certainly missed out on a lot of opportunity to make a lot more money. No one seemed bothered, and they certainly were not busy with other customers. It was a very odd day.

« not visited, just too awful »

Booked a break at this hotel, tried best western central reservations, due to restricted mobility required a ground floor room, best western had no details of room allocations so transferred me to hotel, I booked and was told they needed a 25% deposit which I considered excessive but paid. Later I received a rough photocopy confirmation and on it stated the 25% deposit was not refundable, I was not told this on booking so felt I had been conned. In the interim I have suffered a further cardiac event so am unable to go to this hotel. telephoned best western central reservations to cancel, was told as I had booked the hotel direct I would have to cancel direct and transferred my call, I then cancelled my reservation, requested a cancellation reference and was refused. Said I would have to e mail first then they would issue a reference, I did but they did not so I wrote expressing my delight to best western. I later spoke with the hotel again and my reservation had not been cancelled but said it now had. again I could not get a cancellation reference but said they would call back with one in the afternoon, they did not. my break was due to start yesterday had I not cancelled it. Today I have received a phone call from the hotel saying I am a no show ( in other words are going to require payment for the whole break), not a chance while I live Should they take the money from my credit card I promise to really go to war. this must be the worst hotel in the land or the most bent. do not allow yourself to be treated with utter contempt as I have do not touch them even with a very long stick

« Not upto standard 4 star standard or rosette AVOID room 241 »

Its very damp and smells, windows do not open. We were early and just about acknowledged by the receptionist, who did not ask for my name, just said that no rooms were ready and couldnt check in. We went away came back at 4 to be greeted by a proper receptionist. Room 241 had hole in carpet as we went in,smelt damp, door fell of cupboard, mold grew on walls during the 3 days we were their, only 4'6" bed, room needs updating. Restaurant not AA rossette standard anymore, waiters miserable, had bad wine still charged for!. Spa 5* and very good with low charges, though steam room door broken.

    « Hostile Host »

We stayed two nights and our two sons with their partners, stayed one night. Both of us had a similar experience with the bar tender/night manager. He was extremely abrupt and quite unnecessary in his behaviour with us on the first night with us. He repeated this performance with my daughter in law, who has lots of experience in serving. She was so shocked, when he kept on with his hostilities, she took him to one side and told him how inappropriate his behaviour was. He gave her grudging apology. Given how nice the rest of the staff are, this is shame. Everything else was fine, apart from this one rogue employee.

    « Almost perfect »

I recently spent a week at this hotel, which is in a beautiful, quiet country location with great views . i had one of the smaller double rooms with a comfortable bed , a ggod nights sleep The pool Spa was modern and clean, as were the sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. great to use alongside the hotel for guest use. just what you need after a long day before retiring back to the hotel room were after a short break and back to it again. The only downfall at this hotel was the internet which is paramount when on business . The restaurant food offered was well presented and reasonably priced although not the menu that we expected from a country house hotel. At breakfast, there was lots of choice. The service was good throughout the week and i would certainly come again.

« Spa Day with Afternoon Tea »

I bought a Travelzoo voucher and we went here for our 46th Wedding Anniversary. We had a lovely relaxing morning using the excellent Spa facilities and both had a wonderful full body massage. We then had Afternoon Tea in the beautiful conservatory, with lovely views of the countryside. The sandwiches, cakes and scones were very nice and well presented and it came with a lovely glass of bubbly to toast our Anniversary. Very enjoyable day!!

    « Really Awful »

Stayed here as an early birthday treat with my wife. As our room wasn't ready when we arrived we used the pool and gym etc which was ok. We asked about booking afternoon tea as we were looking forward to a treat as we love afternoon tea but told it was not needed. After the pool we decided to have our afternoon tea after a long drive then told there was no scones. We were ahocked to say the least as the kitchen staff are obviously not professionally trained to make them or have the brains enough to have some in reserve. 10 minutes later a few other guests ordered and had scones on their plates. I was angry and asked how this was only to be told they pre ordered theirs. It was a Saturday afternoon so surely they would be organised and prepared for this? We were disgusted. When we got to our room around the back of the hotel it was cold, dirty and uncleaned, there was stains on the towels, unusable shower, old dirty newspaper in the wardrobe, cobwebs and spiders everywhere. (see photos) All night there was a kitchen extractor which was so loud it kept us awake. The bed was too small, just larger than a single bed to accommodate 2 adults. The bar staff kept calling me mate when I went to order from the bar!!! As we had paid £150 for the overnight stay we expected so much more. I would not recommend staying here as it is overpriced, unprofessional and unorganised with very little structure or understanding of good customer service. Awful Awful Awful

    « Disappointed »

Just returned home from a weekend break at Lamphey court hotel Pembrokeshire Lovely location but very disappointed with hotel Our room was in the courtyard which was fine just a minute walk to the main hotel and Spa. Our room was damp and mouldy smelling and didn't look like it had been cleaned! Mould in bathroom awful.everything I touched was sticky. Nit many things worked. Bit like faulty towers. Staff at breakfast were miserable like they Culdnt be bothered. Note / if you haven't included breakfast in your booking and you ask at breakfast time you will be charged 12'50 for it Even if it's full English or an egg on toast! Food wasnt that clever either. We eat out in the night which I'm glad now. Although spa facilities wer good. That's the only thing the hotel had going for it. Needs a total revamp and maybe some good housekeeping.

« Spa Deal with travel zoo »

Attended a spa day on a travel zoo deal have mixed feelings as deal quite reasonable but quality of experience mixed. Good Staff in spa lovely, good facilities, lovely pool steam room sauna and all clean. Lamphey court is a lovely setting. Locals using the facilities all helpful friendly etc. Told the gym was excellent. Ok Massage was mediocre billed as a Swedish massage, certainly was not that I would say person was inexperienced. Poor Afternoon tea quite poor sandwiches were good, rest not, shop bought cake, dry scone. We got 3 teabags in pkts and a teapot of hot water??? Had to ask for more tea bags as it was not strong enough. We quickly ran out of tea and had to ask for more again got water 3 teabags no milk very poor service they just don't know what afternoon tea should look like ?? We also never got our prosecco which was part of the deal. At this point I'd given up asking we sloped of home. Overall not worth it buy a cheap deal get a cheap product?

    « Re-living teenage holiday »

Nice hotel set in rural location about 15 minutes from Tenby. Nicely appointed bedrooms with very comfy beds. Slightly faded elegance and charm of lounge/restaurant areas. Leisure area in good condition but poolside shower not working and maintenance might be an issue. Enjoyed our visit as weather sunny and hotel food and service were very good. We had not been to this area since we were teenagers!!!

    « Almost... »

A one night stopover with the kids and the best I can come up with is 'phnah'. The hotel has a beautiful setting and facade and unfortunately that starts writing cheque's that the rest of the experience just cannot deliver on. Tired and disjointed and with a rather restricted attitude to children (only 2 very small time slots in the day for access to the swimming pool and definitely not in the jacuzzi). Overall it is average but when compared to the rest in the area, it's better than average..

« Nothing special and good awful. »

Went here on the £35 spa and dine package with family. The spa had a pool, hot tub with jets that weren't very powerful, a sauna and a steam room that didn't seem to work properly. No real atmosphere but ok. The lunch was awful. You'd think it would be hard to get a Sunday lunch wrong but service was poor, food was dry and when asked for butter to go with the potatoes this took 15 minutes. Waiting staff delivered food to the table and ran off before we could ask for condiments. The fish dinner was dry on dry beans with dry potatoes. Then gave what seemed like basic cream warmed up to go with it. Very odd. The restaurant wasn't even justifiably busy for such a poor experience. We wouldn't recommend this place even at £35! Sorry.

« very disappointing stay for my birthday »

We decided to use this hotel because of its location as it is ideally situated for you to visit most places of interest in this area. Although the hotel looks nice from the outside, inside is completely the opposite, we were very disappointed it needs some serious money spending on it, it's very dated and could do with a spruce up. We were very disappointed with our room, we had paid £650 for 4 nights and asked to be moved but this was not possible. Our room was very damp and when you entered you got that very musty smell, the walls had damp on them and our door let in the damp as well of loads of creepy crawlies because it did not shut correctly, there was a rather large gap big enough to let all sorts in, we even found a beetle on our bed at one point. When we opened one of the wardrobes the door fell off and the bathroom was covered in marks, had cracks showing as well as cobwebs in most corners. Furniture in our room was very dated but you did get a flat screen TV and some good tea making facilities, internet connections was hit and miss, I did not get a reception on my mobile most of the time either when in my room. On one of the days we stayed our room was not cleaned, I did mention this to reception but nothing was done. Service in the bar and restaurant was good but the food was average quality with the same menu choice for the whole of our stay. The hotel has a very nice pool and spa area which we used every day, there are also tennis courts for you to use if you wish, if you use the pool children can only swim between certain times. One thing I would like to point out is how nice and polite the staff are, especially Carly and Lisa who were always very friendly and professional and were great with the children. I personally feel that the prices to stay in this hotel are very expensive, I heard several other guests talking about this too, and I have stayed in far better hotels for the same price. Would I recommend this hotel or use it again? Probably not, sorry !really disappointed with this Best Western hotel.

« Pretty outside but terrible inside »

after seeing the grand impressive pictures i was looking forward to the visit to Tenby as a birthday treat! Booked through Booking.com - Non refundable ..... BIG Mistake Arrived to amazing grounds and nice looking hotel from the outside! Visited reception to check-in we noticed how date the interior was but that didn't put us off until we wondered around the courtyard trying to find our room and after eventually finding it walked into a VERY dusty smelling room which the decor was dated and quite frankly you wouldn't expect in a cheaper B&B let alone somewhere you pay £130 a night for! There were 2 single beds pushed together which were moving and the bed was uncomfortable. My partner has asthma and could not have slept in that room. I tried reading the room information ... the history of the hotel is impressive but the rest of the information was completely useless. We were going to try the sauna until we realised that we had no idea where it was and it involved traipsing in the cold and wind to get there and back! We decided that we had better surroundings at home and that we would just accept the loss of money! When i returned to the reception desk to check out informing them that the room is too dusty for my partners asthma, i was half expecting them to try and arrange a different room, but the friendliness had disappeared. the receptionist went to find the manager to let them know and she came back with that the Manager said that we booked through Booking.com and was non-refundable so we can either stay or not. i would of that that they would be ore concerned and ask questions why their guests are willing to leave without a refund after 30 minutes! Seems this hotel is not concerned by unhappy customers. i wouldn't of left this review if the staff had made more of an effort to help/understand.

« Friendly staff tired hotel »

Very peaceful location with impressive exterior and friendly welcoming staff but sadly the hotel is dark and tired looking with dark furnishings and that slightly stale smell We also hadn't realised just how many young children would be staying mine have grown up and I was looking for a little peace and quiet The shrieking in the afternoon from the spa pool was far from peaceful The restaurant was also old fashioned and the food unimaginative although good service

    « Beautiful setting »

Stayed here as was in the area for a business trip. I used the leisure facilities which were really nice, pool, steam room and sauna. There were a lot of kids in the pool but obviously it's summer hols so I didn't mind too much. The waiting staff were brilliant at dinner as I was eating alone, they were very attentive and brought my meals out quickly which I appreciated. The rooms were large and clean. A family of Americans checked in and complained that there wasn't an elevator. Let's say they were on the 'large' side, thought not to stereotype! I guess they didn't appreciate the beautiful (not steep) winding staircase. Would stay again.

    « Amazing spa day »

A Travelzoo offer 2 led us to visit to this Georgian hotel in the depths of Pembs. You will find a sat nav useful to get there, as it is something of a hidden gem. The hotel has a modern purpose built spa with all mod cons, and one side of the building is all windows, so there is plenty of light. Parking is free, generous and easy. We enjoyed a proper old fashioned tea in the hotel conservatory before our time in the spa (visitors do NOT need to eat lunch that day). The spa was clean pleasantly appointed, with swimming pool, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and treatment rooms ... Sun loungers inside and out meant all guests could enjoy the sunny weather and the relaxed atmosphere. Guests of the hotel mingled with day visitors ... we also found locals who enjoy these privileges regularly! We each had a treatment: a relaxing facial or a full body massage. Laura was very friendly, kind and patient, as well as very competent. Elemis products are used/on offer (my favourite). The hotel is in a lovely setting ... there are also tennis courts and gardens. This hotel would make a great place for a proper wedding celebration - the hotel can obviously accommodate many guests, and if I booked it I would like to stay for the whole week-end. All staff who dealt with us were professional and polite ... they obviously work hard to help everyone enjoy their stay. I look forward to going back ...

    « 3 night stay »

Impressive drive up to the hotel. The exterior is beautiful. The staff were friendly on arrival. Our room was really lovely, although old fashioned. It was large and bright having double aspect windows and wonderful views over the front and side of the grounds. The bathroom was bright and large but was in need of updating. The common parts are shabby and really need decorating and new furniture. Not the sort of place you want to go back to for a night cap. The leisure centre is fantastic modern and clean. The pool has designated times for children so it suits all. There is also a good spa with many treatments available. The breakfast gave plenty of choice. My husband had the full welsh breakfast and he said it was delicious. I had poached eggs on toast the first morning and then went for the scrambled eggs and salmon. Both breakfasts were very tasty. Overall it is a good hotel but it needs money spent on it to make it a splendid hotel.

    « Good location , relaxing break »

Short break to discover Pembrokeshire with family members. Decent hotel in a lovely location. Easy to find and adequate signage . Rooms clean & tidy a little dated but still comfortable and relaxing to stay . Beds had clean linen and we all slept well. No lift at hotel but only one flight of stairs with easy access to rooms. We used the spa and pool twice ,on both visits the pool is on the cool side, good jacuzzi and Sauna but steam room had very little steam & heat both days. Clean showers and changing rooms kept well. However quite a rude receptionist at spa -needs a lesson in customer service ! . All other staff members were all polite & proffessional. Evening meal in the Restaurant average , small portions and quite bland for the prices charged. Hotel in a good location for all the fabulous beaches within the area. Car parking at the front of the hotel.

We arrived very late at night and had to leave early the next day, so we didn't really experience much of the hotel. However, we were very happy with the room and service. I wish we had more time there.

    « A short break »

The location of the hotel was superb set In pleasant countryside and within easy reach of Tenby, Saundersfoot and Manobier. The staff were friendly, obliging and efficient and our superior room was excellent and well appointed. Breakfast meals were acceptable but dinner was mediocre and one meal the food had to be sent back. The hotel removed the meal from the bill.

« Splendour by the sea »

Lamphey Court Hotel, is a great old hotel for all the family or for couples. Impressive when driving up to the front with huge pillars at the doorway. Inside is a little dated carpets from the 70s well they look from the 70's, however the rooms are spacious and well decorated. The food at the hotel was excellent at prices from much smaller hotels.. The staff were friendly and very professional and always happy to help. The spa was very modern and again full of professional staff. inside consisting of pool, steam room, sauna and full spa facilities., I tried to think of downsides to the hotel and only came up with the pictures show rolling fields outside and there are, only thing is not land you can walk on just look at the sheep. There is also tennis courts to have a knock around. The spa can be used by children but they have two set times throughout the day that they can go. This is the hotels way of allowing older guests to have a childless time they can enjoy. I found it great that so many children were there and seemed to enjoy. The hotel is so central for reaching Tenby, Manor wildlife park, Oakwood, and so many other places all within a 20 minute drive. I will return.

« Ideal for extended family visit »

We stayed as an extended family group ( 12 in all ) , all our rooms were in the Studio block next to the main hotel . The family rooms comprised of two bedrooms which is a much better idea than 4 people sleeping in 1 room .This was not made clear in descriptions of accomodation a fact that should be made clear as I think this makes ideal use of rooms. The evening meals were excellent and service very good considering that 12 of us sat down together !.Breakfasts were a leisurely affair and again service good. The main lounge was ideal for us all to retire to for drinks etc, with comfy furniture and good bar in next room. The pool area proved a magnet for our grandchildren, and also a nice place to relax. The only suggestion would be that the bedrooms could do with a freshen up, although very clean an update would be welcome. We will be back as the overall impression is very good. P.S we stayed as a couple two years ago which helped us decide this time.

    « Lovely group visit. »

I stayed here for a group activity weekend away. Firstly, there was many mistakes made by our event organiser (not affiliated with this hotel in any way!) who underbooked the number of rooms. However, the staff were incredibly helpful and very professional at helping us out and rearranging the bedrooms so that we could all fit. There was a great choice of breakfast, the eggs benedict were divine. I didn't get chance to use the spa but feedback from other girls in our group gave it high praise and they said their massages were very relaxing. The hotel is in a lovely location and there's also a couple of pubs in walking distance to. It's a good base if you want to explore Pembrokeshire and I would definitely want to stay here again!

    « I loved this Hotel. »

I stayed at Lamphey Court for for 3 nights. I booked last minute whilst driving to Pembroke and was unsure if I needed to stay one or more nights. I found the Hotel very welcoming and friendly. The staff on reception were especially nice and accommodating to my indecision. I decided to stay for three nights. The room was comfortable and quiet. The peacefulness suited me fine. I used the restaurant only once, with my guests. The food is very good and there is a good selection on the menu. Good service with good ambiance in the restaraunt. Unfortunately that was the evening that Wales lost their dream to Portugal in the Euro 2016 and so the Hotel had a slight disappointed mood about it, which I understood. That did not reflect on the good attention given to me and my guests. Breakfast is served from 7 am which suited me fine and was well served with friendly staff. I would be more than happy to stay there again. I did not use the Spa facilities but did look around there. The pool and gym looked very good and my overall impression was that the Spa is well catered. There is the medieval Bishops Palace next to the Hotel site which is an interesting and peaceful place to visit. My experience at Lamphey Court Hotel and Spa was comfortable and relaxing. A good place to stay.

    « Lovely weekend away »

The hotel is in a lovely location, a few miles from Tenby. Spa and pool facilities were lovely, very clean and relaxing. Only ate breakfast there which was fantastic, really good quality ingredients, I would of liked more fruit options but that is a very minor personal opinion. Staff were all friendly and efficient. The room was a little dated (studio room) but clean and large, shower pressure was terrible but again only a minor gripe. Generally a very nice relaxing weekend at a lovely hotel!

    « Lovely hotel! »

I have stayed here a couple of times whilst on business and it's become one of my favourite hotels! The staff are very friendly and were a great help when my car broke down on one visit which was much appreciated! The rooms are lovely and comfortable, the food in the restaurant is delicious and the spa/pool is a nice place to relax. The massages are also really worth the money and they give a 20% discount to hotel guests (although I would recommend booking ahead as they don't always have last minute availability) I would definitely recommend this hotel either for a relaxing mini break or for business travel and I will certainly be staying again when I am next in the area.

This was a surprise birthday treat for me, we had the most wonderful welcome, stayed in a superior room which was amazing ( I've read some people say dated but, may be but so clean & fresh with beautiful views I didn't see it as dated)The spa was also clean & well kept, we were in between 2pm & 3pm with no children in sight, so relaxing. I also had a Facial with Nina excellent I would recommend. Walking in the grounds was so peaceful too. We had a fabulous evening meal & too much breakfast we will be back :-)

    « Generally good »

I stayed here for one night with my husband and four month old son. Upon arrival it is clear that the grounds are simply beautiful and we were very impressed. The receptionist that checked us in was very helpful and polite and gave us plenty of information including the spa opening times and when we could take our son in the pool too. Our room was in the courtyard and had a double bed, a sofa and then a separate room with twin beds. We were pleased to find that a cot had been put in the room which saved us getting our travel cot out of the car. We went over to the spa whilst they still allowed children in and took our son for a swim. The facilities were good and I enjoyed a bit of me time with the steam room and jacuzzi. All facilities there were clean and tidy. We stopped for a drink at the bar afterwards and sat outside in the sunshine. A beautiful outlook, this was really pleasant. Later on, once we had settled our son, we ordered our meals from room service. The food was excellent. My chicken Caesar salad was one of the nicest I've had. The bed itself was a little too soft but the other facilities in the room were good and the shower was good in the morning. The floorboards above did creak quite a lot however and the movement from the family above did wake our son a few times. We went for breakfast in the morning which was fairly decent. Not the best I've had but certainly reasonable standard (I'd been spoiled by the excellent food the evening before!). I checked with reception after what time check out was and they said between 10:30 and 11. As it was only 9am we decided to have a brief nap (not much sleep overnight with the baby!). We got woken up by housekeeping knocking on the door at 10am to see if we'd left which was a little annoying as I'd set an alarm to ensure we weren't late. We checked out at 10:30am and I went to reception. Unfortunately this receptionist was rather rude. She didn't ask how our stay was or chat at all (there was no one else waiting). She then told me that my bill was over £140. I queried this as I had paid for the room in advance. She then said "oh yes, it's £45 then - the cot was £10, ...." I jumped in at this point to query this. At no point had I been told that the cot was additional and indeed I had a travel cot (of better quality!) in the boot of our car! I pointed this out and she said she would knock it off the bill. When I said that it would be nice to know of such charges in advance she rudely said to me: "I've told you I'll knock it off". I was really quite taken aback! She told me then that the bill was £35. I actually queried this and she jumped down my throat again saying that's your meal last night and your drinks. I pointed out that we also had breakfast which I didn't believe had been included. She then said yes it wasn't and thanked me for my honesty and added it to my bill. As an indication - I could have walked away without paying for breakfast but chose to be honest despite the rudeness I had encountered. We left with a sour taste in our mouths over the stay. We had really enjoyed it until that point and had said to each other we would seriously consider returning but for longer but I'm really not sure now. It had been an enjoyable stay but was let down by such rudeness at the end which I just don't expect at a hotel such as this.

« Weekend away for two. »

I booked this break with great little breaks for our 27th wedding anniversary. We were allocated a lovely room in one of the courtyard buildings. This room was quite large with views out to the front and three Windows that let the lovely sunshine in. The king size bed was very comfortable and the room had all the comforts we needed. We had a separate bathroom with a corner bath and shower over it with toiletries and lovey fluffy white towels. Dinner was included on the first evening which we booked for 7.30 pm. Starter and dessert were delicious but not so the main meal. The gammon my husband had was just ok and I had the calves liver, which was very disappointing. There was no vegetables or even any garnish with these meals so both looked very grey and unappetising. I did ask a lovely waitress about any accompaniments to the meals and she apologised and said they didn't come with any but she would go and get some for us. We had a small bowl of peas! Breakfast on the first morning I ordered eggs Benedict, it came with no hollandaise sauce whatsoever and poached eggs really hard. Unfortunately I couldn't eat it. My husband had the Welsh breakfast which was fine. The second morning we both just had the Welsh breakfast which was also fine. We decided not to eat there on our second evening as we were disappointed with the main meals so booked elsewhere. We used the sauna, steam room and pool which was lovely after a day's walking, but they didn't police the policy of no children after 5.30, but hey ho it's the summer hols. All in all we had a lovely stay at this lovely hotel with a lovely room. We found all the staff were friendly, polite and helpful.

    « Weekend visit »

Decent hotel. Amazing surroundings and great location for visiting Pembrokeshire. Room was ok, pretty much as everyone else had reviewed. Needs upgrade but really not that bad. Had an evening meal there and it was great. Good service, tasty food. The most disappointing aspect was the pool, etc. Absolutely full of children and really unable to swim or enjoy it properly. It's a shame because it's been really well done and is a brilliant pool, sauna and jacuzzi. The guide shows children swim times, but the hotel nor the guests pay any notice to it. If you've got kids then it'll be great, if you haven't, expect it to be busy out of term time.

And at a very reasonable price. We sat outside in the sun on a beautiful day and enjoyed all three courses. The mackerel starter was first rate as we're both the turkey and lamb main courses. I do not know why there were so few people eating though a number seemed to be enjoying the spa.

    « Wonderful stay »

We stayed here for a night after visiting St Davids. The hotel is easy to find and is next to Lamphey Bishops Palace. There is plenty of car parking and the building looks very impressive. The setting is very tranquil and peaceful. Our room was very nice, a good size with a decent desk for work, plenty of plug sockets and a separate seating area. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent - a nice choice of freshly cooked food at sensible prices and delivered quickly. Service was also excellent. The onsite gym was extremely good - a good mix of machines and plenty of space. The pool looked nice but we didn't try that.

a lovely old hotel in a great location for visiting many places in Pembrokeshire, the bedroom was a decent size and very clean, the food was excellent, we had one evening meal there which we really enjoyed and the breakfasts are freshly cooked to order with a lovely selection. the wine list was quite good and the staff friendly and helpful.

« Avoid the courtyard rooms »

Overall it was a good experience, let down by a few things. We booked a "courtyard room" - purely because "courtyard" sounds nice. Unfortunately when we got to the room, we opened the door to be greeted with an overwhelming smell of damp. It was also extremely dated, dark and dingy. There was a sofa in it that was hard & uncomfortable. We asked if we could be moved to a better room, and in fairness to the hotel, they did so immediately. Our new room was very nice, light and airy, smelled lovely and had a nice bed. Lucky for us, hotel wasn't fully booked - DO NOT book the courtyard room. The courtyard rooms are the same price, but to me feel like a budget, tired old hotel that you don't mind paying £40 for if you don't plan to be in there much. The spa facilities are lovely, but our experience was marred by loud screaming children. Staff did not ask the parents to do anything about it, so worth noting that children are allowed in the spa facilities if you're thinking of going for a relaxing break. Lastly, at breakfast the orange juice tasted rancid. I reported this to the staff who took quite a while to investigate (10+ minutes while others were still pouring and drinking the juice), and when they did, said that the orange juice tasted fine to them. To me (and my partner agreed) it tasted like it had been left out in the hot sun all day and then refrigerated again - but perhaps I was being "fussy". I would probably stay again, but definitely not book the courtyard rooms.

« Great staff, beautiful location, 'tired' room but great dog friendly hotel overall »

Booked because it's dog friendly. Book direct for a reasonable price. Studio room with small double bed separate kitchen lounge area and bathroom. Park right outside. Tired decor needs upgrading and redesigning. Not really great for self catering but not sure if it's designed for that. Very hard to get right temperature in shower with old fashioned mixer taps and cold metal bath. Breakfast menu with limited self serve. Plenty of friendly staff. Overall good value for money in a lovely setting. Pool and spa look lovely. Close to Tenby and lots of attractions. Free wifi but not great away from main building. Would definitely stay again.

    « Light Lunch »

Had heard about Lamphhey court via a friend who used to go there every day when it was a family home during the war .She lived near by and as a small child would go there every day and the Lady of the house would tell her cook give Anne some cake .I can say my visit for lunch was beautiful the food was outstanding and the Idyllic setting was just breath taking. I will be going back and would like an over night stay .

« long awaited weeks break away! »

A week away and much longed for holiday with relaxation from a very busy year. We chose here as it was Best Western we have stayed in them before and been very happy with the service we have had. Lamprey Court was as we expected, lovely, friendly and welcoming staff. the service was as expected and as were on holiday and not rushing any where it was very relaxing too. We chose Lamphey Court as it was central to the areas of Pembrokeshire we wanted to explore and i wanted to revisit, as a child to been a teenager was spent on holiday here with my parents. We were not disappointed, we had a lovely week with glorious weather and being able to come back to the hotel after a day of exploration to come and relax in the spa made the day and the holiday.

« Pleasant hotel, excellent spa, pity about the food »

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel using it to explore the Pembroke coast. Our family loves swimming and tennis both of which are provided by the hotel - the spa Is relatively new and is of a high standard and ideal if the weather is poor. The hotel rooms are comfortable as are the public spaces but the only criticism was that certainly At the time of our visit the kitchen was unable to provide food commensurate with the rest of the amenities. This complaint was reported to the restaurant manager at our final breakfast when one of our party received scrambled eggs so salty that they were deemed inedible. The restaurant manager apologised and agreed that there were problems that were being rectified in the kitchen And very efficiently replaced the breakfast order. In all other respects the hotel is good value and ideally located -

    « Gorgeous and relaxing »

The Lamphy Court Hotel is an amazing place to stay. The the hotel itself is a converted manor in the idyllic Welsh countryside, with the picturesque castle ruins of the Bishop's palace (which you can explore at any time) directly adjacent to the hotel grounds. We were a family of five (one nine year old and two grandparents) and stayed in the family apartments located next to the main house. Our 'rooms' functioned more as apartments with two bedrooms, a bathroom, and sitting area with couches and arm chair. Our rooms were clean and comfortable (if a tad worn, perhaps because they usually house families with children), however given the gorgeous grounds, we spent very little time in the rooms themselves. Our son preferred exploring the castle ruins and we all were happy to follow. The hotel restaurant was delicious - both for breakfast and dinner. The bar was also quite good, and both the restaurant and bar were housed inside the main building which was beautifully styled with outstanding views of the grounds. The spa was also great. We used the pool, sauna and hot tub which were well maintained and housed in a very nice, modern building. I also would like to mention the extremely helpful and welcoming staff. There were accommodating to our varying dietary needs as well as being friendly and helpful in all aspects of our stay (from spa services, to mixing drinks, to advising excellent restaurants and sites to see in Pembrokeshire). Overall, I would say our experience was relaxing, comfortable, and extremely enjoyable. Beautiful grounds, excellent food, great spa, and welcoming staff. I would definitely recommend this hotel, and would most certainly return if I traveled through Wales again.

« Spa Day - Fabulous in every way!!!! »

Four of us booked a Travel Zoo deal for a full day at the spa including an hours treatment, complimentary Prosecco and a truly fabulous afternoon tea - so many beautifully prepared sandwiches and cakes we couldn't finish them all. The spa is spotlessly clean - lovely pool, jacuzzi, sauna & steam room. But the most wonderful experience of the day was the hour's Swedish Massage included in the package - oh my goodness - five stars are not enough. It was total heaven from start to finish and our group is no stranger to having treatments. We unanimously agree that it was a terrific day, relaxing and peaceful in a truly fabulous location - the staff are incredibly polite, helpful and professional at all times. We cannot recommend enough - do not hesitate to book your spa day here you will not be disappointed!

« Nothing to fault, a joy of a hotel »

We stayed for two nights to celebrate my wifes 60th bithday. From the moment we arrived to our departure nothing was too much trouble. The staff led by Lisa on reception made us feel at home and welcome. The spa is a delight and we used the gym and the pool as well as fitting in a couple of treatments to start the celebrations. The food on the first night was cooked to perfection and the staff in the restaurant were attentive and friendly without ever being intrusive and even took some celebratory snaps on our camera. Unfortunately we had made prior arrangements for the second night or we would have definately dined in the hotel for a second meal. I would recommend this hotel to anybody looking for a relaxing break with a bit of pampering and time to enjoy the surroundings not only of the hotel but the beautiful pembrokeshire coast.

    « Average Dissapointment »

Had an amazing courtyard room which was massive with an amazing bathroom. TV was too small for the distance from the HUGE bed. Rooms are dated but that's the character of the place. Wasn't too fond of the old people smell around the hotel. The restaurant was ok. The soup of the day wasn't soup at all... more like baby food puree. BUT it was tasty and also my favourite soup. The steak was fantastic. The chicken was ok. Didn't have breakfast here. The Spa was very very busy (understandably as it's 10:30am checkout) it wasn't relaxing at all. Setting is lovely.. shame it rained.

    « Bad Experience »

The hotel is in a beautiful setting with countryside and gardens around it. The main building is comfortable and imposing. The Leisure facilities are very good. The staff are helpful. Our room was in the outer building and unfortunately was dark and felt cold. The hotel has much potential but falls down on details . e.g. no marmalade. empty box of tissues left in bathroom for several days. etc. Although breakfast was fine the restaurant food was poor. Unfortunately on the second day i went down with what appeared to be food poisoning, although not proven. I had not eaten elsewhere. This was reported and we were told that the Manager was looking into it. Although we remained at the hotel we heard nothing from the Manager and never saw him. When checking out we asked to speak to him and was told that it was his day off. Although we had mentioned that I had been unable to make use of the leisure facilities for the rest of our stay or to eat hardly any breakfast no adjustment was made to our bill. The whole incident spoiled our 5 day break. This was disappointing as we have previously had good service from Best Western.

    « Such a disappointment »

After a wonderful visit of a year ago we decided on a return visit and anticipated another wonderful visit. How wrong were we !! After checking in and admittedly enjoying the pool and hot tub we trundled of to our room and thus began a saga of disappointment after disappointment !! Our room was not even in the hotel but in a series of annex rooms damp smelling and with a bathroom so small my husband couldn't even turn round in ! To be totally fair after complaining we were given a room in the actual hotel with a much larger bathroom and bed. The room turned out to be a disappointment the window was stiff and couldn't be opened. The bed was hard and on inspection had depressed springs and bad pillows. In the early hours all we could hear were the people in the room above us walking around ... Squeaky floor boards !! Dinner was ... To say the least appalling ! King prawns so tough you couldn't remove their shells ! Lamb over cooked and fish and chips that were dry with peas resembling bullets ! A head waiter who's shirt didn't even do up explained to us they were having chef issues ! But the piece de resistance was dessert ! A signature chocolate plate ... This must surely redeem the evening ! But when delivered it consisted of 3 slivers of fudge yes that's correct fudge not chocolate served with red onions in a dish and a coissant that had definitely seen better days !! After asking the waitress what indeed this dessert was we finally gave up and accepted that this was just awful ! The head waiter told us the chef that had created this dish had in fact been sacked ! And not a moment too soon in my opinion ! Why oh why had they then left this creation on the menu is anyone's guess ! I would love to say breakfast was better but no ! I ordered coffee .... Got tea ... Cooked full English breakfast .... Full of cheap ingredients ..., all in all a very expensive mistake ! Would not recommend this hotel at all !

« Beautiful location and friendly staff »

Stayed one night ahead of a business meeting in nearby Milford. The location of this hotel is truly stunning, overlooking rolling green hills, and there's a general air of tranquillity and calm about the place which is very enjoyable. The views from the rooms themselves vary (mine was of a brick wall), but you can't argue with such a beautiful building and location. Staff were all incredibly welcoming and polite. Food in the restaurant was very good and service was quick, although capacity seems quite tight, as I couldn't get a table until 8pm. It was fine for me as it happened, but that's quite late to eat for a lot of people. The hearty Welsh breakfast served the next morning was delicious. Room was clean and spacious, and the beds very comfortable. My only real complaint would be the Wi-Fi which was very flaky, and dropped out frequently. This made working a bit of a challenge at times. On the whole though, a really nice hotel. I would happily revisit.

    « Country break »

This is a beautiful property in a gorgeous location but we were disappointed by the service in the dining room. We asked for water then more gravy and would have preferred the person in charge to say she'd forgotten instead of excuses. My husband had almost finished when she said it would be sometime but did not apologise when clearly she had just forgotten. Anyway they lost out on business as we ate elsewhere our second evening.

    « What no dinner »

Nice hotel, nice room (studio) as you would expect for a 4 star, staff very friendly and helpful. Only problems were poor shower pressure, no blind/curtains in bathroom, was told there was no table until 20.30 for dinner, asked to see the manager, who then managed to sit me down immediately at 19.00. Overall good hotel, would stay again.

    4
« Beautiful, but not perfect »

This is a luxurious hotel in a natural surrounding. The room was very spacious and comfortable. Looks like very nice facilities but we didn't stay long enough to try many. Great for a country getaway or for weddings. The Internet was not always reliable however. Also, strangely, some of the towels were wet when we checked in.

    « COULD DO BETTER! »

Stayed on a two night deal dinner, B&B offer. When we booked we thought we were in the main building so were disappointed in having to run through heavy downpours to go for breakfast and evening meals! Our room was big with a large bathroom and a hallway leading to it which had a leak and water was dripping on our head each time we passed - it was obvious that it had been leaking in several places in the past! Bathroom needs a lick of paint, no handle to close the bathroom window, shower curtain with missing hooks and hanging off one end BUT tiles, bath, loo etc all fine so let down by petty things which would not take much to sort. Bedroom decor very 80s and needs updating. Spa area good but lack of steam in the steam room on the two occasions i used it. Food on first night was okay but very cordon bleu so if you have a big appetite may not suit. Sunday evening meal of a roast dinner was nice. Staff were pleasant so all in all nice hotel but let down by rather shabby decor in room - conclusion is that 'deal customers' are put in the annexe but I suppose good value for what we paid. I should add that the problems were reported at Reception and the maintenance man was on the case ... I didn't notice any paint or brushes though!

    « Lovely hotel..lovely location »

Booked this for a Spa break away. Lovely hotel and lovely location..though the reception staff could be a little more friendly and helpful on arrival. We had booked a twin room which was made up as a double the housekeeping was charming and assured us it was no trouble to sort this out which she rapidly did and reverted it to a twin room even though she seemed to be very busy and was rushing around. The room was clean, well decorated and suited our needs and the bed very clean and comforable...the towels luxurious. The Spa is second to none and the Spa treatment very good even though it was done by only one member of staff she did not rush or push this along. The dining room is light and airy and the staff professional and pleasant. The food which was included in the 'package' was tasty ,well cooked and presented. There was plenty of choice on the menu. Breakfast the following morning was served in a different room and again there was adequate choice. There are lots of areas around the hotel to sit and relax if you need somewhere quiet the grounds are lovely...parking easy and definatly a place to visit to come away relaxed and refreshed.

« Nice break away from it all »

The house and setting are marvellous. The staff are kind and helpful. The spa and pool are very well kitted out. But....the bed was awful, small and lumpy. Bathroom was very tired. Food at the restaurant was OK, but nothing to go out of your way for. Only ate there the first night for convenience. Oh and waiting 45 minutes for breakfast when it's just a full English.. Woops mean Welsh isnt really acceptable for a four star hotel. All in all a really lovely place and we enjoyed it, but at these prices you do expect things to be better.

    « Tranquil spot. »

Situated in a lovely tranquil and picturesque part of Wales, the staff were very friendly and warm, Lisa was exceptional in that she put her self out to be helpful and very informative about the area. Our only gripe would be that the chef here, has a tendency to overcook the meat from the evening menu. Other than that we had a very pleasant stay.

    « Almost perfect... »

We recently spent a week at this hotel, which is in a beautiful, quiet country location with views over open countryside. We had a lovely spacious room with a comfortable bed and ample tea, coffee etc. The pool was modern and clean, as were the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi . I had one spa treatment - a salt scrub - which was the best I have ever had. The only thing that stopped this hotel from being absolutely perfect was the food. What was offered was reasonably priced and tasty but somehow not the menu that we expected from a country house hotel. At breakfast, there was lots of choice of good, tasty food but again, the menu did not quite match our expectations. As an example, the fresh fruit salad on offer every day was mainly one fruit such as apple, watermelon or pineapple with an occasional slice of star fruit. The service was excellent throughout the week and we would certainly come again and highly recommend the hotel, although we ate out most nights.

« Terrible....... but the weather was nice!! »

Spent the afternoon and evening here as a treat for my wife. Paid extra for a superior double room only to find the double is actually TWO twin beds pushed together, not what I would expect. Also old water in the kettle...again BASIC stuff!! What really did ruin the day for me....and as petty as this sounds, I could NOT get an Iron and ironing board sent to my room as there were not enough in the hotel, waited over an hour and gave up in the end. Spoke to reception again to be told "We only have so many" hows about when you claim to be 4 star...and I spend £280 on a night away you use that money to buy a few irons. Ive stayed in doss holes that at least have enough irons!! Not even asked when we left if the stay was enjoyable or if there were any problems. Overall VERY disappointing night. Spa was nice though as was the weather. If your thinking of staying......spend your money elsewhere.

    « Secluded Hotel & Spa »

The Hotel is located in Pembrokeshire convenient to exploring the Pembroke coast and the cities of Pembroke, Tenby and Lamphey. A grand Hotel, Restaurant and Spa all in one location. Attentive staff, large rooms with modern conveniences and very reasonably priced. It offers the best of Best Western's amenities. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and also offer room service. The hotel is just off the beaten path, so it is secluded, quiet (other than the braying of some lambs in a distant field), but very peaceful.

    « Spa day »

Fantastic spa staff. Had a lovely neck, shoulder and back massage. All spa facilities were clean. We also indulged in a delicious 2 course lunch with a cheeky glass of prosecco. Will definitely be returning as myself and my friends are local to the area.

« A fine building with a hidden treasure next door »

The hotel was a fine building, well appointed and in an excellent location for exploring the southern Pembroke coast. It is situated next to the Bishops palace, a building which dates back to the 13th century which is a hidden jewel. We drove past it at least half a dozen times before we saw it even though we knew of it's existence. The hotels internal appearance was pleasant enough and the bedroom clean and well furnished when we arrived. However, the room cleaning on subsequent days was poor. The bed was made and the tea/coffee tray replenished but that was all. After three nights the bathroom was looking very scruffy. We had dinner the first night but it was nothing special.we found much better meals at local hostelries and better value for money. The breakfast was very good with an excellent menu and well cooked food. It is a nice hotel which seems to lack effective management and staff training.

« The Spa experience was great, the staff briliant but the afternoon tea was awful »

We had a travel zoo voucher. The Spa staff were delightful and we had a 55 minute Swedish massage each and included in the price was an afternoon tea with a glass of presecco. I realised after I got home that there was no presecco but also realised that they hadn't asked for the £5 extra fee due for a Saturday, so to be fair I suppose one wiped the other one out. The white bread on the sandwiches was nothing special, your average every day sliced white bread. The bara brith was dry and bland, the welshcakes were quite hard and the sandwiches (I am a vegetarian) and had told them previously when booking and it was the usual vege choice of cheese and tomato and egg mayo. Surely they could have had something more exciting? Also the peppermint tea was twinings cheapest - not their more expensive range and there was only one tea bag in a pot for two people. The jam and cream was okay but the scone was cold, hard and not that fresh and definitely not baked on the premises. It was "bought in". Also the photo shown on the website shows a lovely selection of cakes......those cakes were definitely not available that day. Such a shame as the appearance of the hotel is wonderful and the Spa staff as Ive said were very friendly and professional and the massage was one of the best we've had. So please look into how you can improve on the afternoon tea.....no excuses as really its so important to provide good quality food and beverages. Many thanks to the Spa staff. The grounds ofthe hotel are absolutely beautiful and tranquil. I have emailed the hotel to say about the afternoon but not heard from them as yet. 13.6.16

« Very well run hotel »

Had a one night stay here with my girlfriend the hotel was everything I expected it to be the room was spacious and well equipped. My girlfriend thought the spa was very good and we had a very nice if a little expensive evening meal in the restaurant. Can't really fault the hotel but didn't blow me away.

    « 1 star service in 4 star hotel!! »

Booked our weeks stay online. The photos made the hotel look appealing and luxurious. Or so we thought !!! On arrival the receptionist was efficient and polite. The room was a good size, the bathroom was clean. However the bed was lumpy and uncomfortable and the room was very hot during the night. As a result, very poor nights sleep. We had dinner in the hotel on our first night; the food was over priced and not typical of a 4 star hotel. Very disappointing, we didn't eat there again during our stay. We had breakfast every day and in the week that we were there the same dead flies joined us on the window ledge by our table !!! Disgusting. The tables outside never seemed to be wiped down, they were sticky and dirty with full ashtrays. Why? A 4 star hotel should be immaculate. This wouldn't happen abroad !! Apart from a couple of receptionists, the staff seemed uninterested in the guests and obviously uninterested in the hotel. No pride in their jobs. On our departure we were not asked if we'd enjoyed our stay, if everything had been ok or told to have a safe journey home !! We were just given the bill. We would definitely not recommend this hotel and we would not return.

    « Great 2 night stay »

On arrival we thought how impressive the main hotel was, we stayed in a groundfloor room adjacent to the main building, requested by us as their is no lift in the main building, nice and peaceful, bed a little small, and room a bit dated, but everything in there that we needed. Dinner was fab on both evenings, all home cooked I thought reasonably priced, special mention to the steak pie...it was top notch, service very friendly and efficient, each morning breakfast was good. The spa was superb, modern, clean etc, the patio area outside lovely for pre dinner drinks in the sunshine. I would certainly book this hotel again Pembrokeshire is a beautiful place to holiday.

« Hotel with adjoining Palace »

When we arrived in Lamphey and saw the hotel across the fields it was so impressive we couldn't believe that it was actually where we would be staying. The hotel must be unique in having the added bonus of the remains of the Bishop's Palace at the end of the drive and I would recommend all guests to view this well preserved heritage site. The twin room we had was spacious, comfortable and with a view of the apple trees on the lawn in full blossom. It was a pleasure to use the leisure centre with its beautiful swimming pool, sauna and spa pool. The location of the Lamphey Court is ideal for anyone who wants to explore the Pembroke Coast. In our short break we visited Tenby and Caldey Island, took a boat trip to Skomer with its fantastic views of puffins and spent a day walking at Stackpole with its stunning cliffs, secluded sandy beaches and abundant wildlife.

    « Regal and majestic... »

To Lauren at the front desk to Lisa in the bar and our food server, Beth -- thank you for the fabulous stay! Pros: Gorgeous views, relaxing atmosphere Fine dining sizeable rooms nice linens, toiletries and comfortable beds Cons: Furniture a bit shabby in need of updating NO ELEVATOR no safe in room no hairdryer in room The service, location and history of this place trump the small negatives which can easily be overlooked. Enjoy your stay as we did too.

    « High Tea »

We visited Lamphey Court for afternoon tea in a family group, mum, dad, grand parents and grown up grand children. The set menu tea was really nice, with a selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones. The young waitress who looked after us was very attentive and extremely pleasant. We took our tea in the conservatory dining room which was a bit of a mistake. The room was very hot and has poor ventilation, plus it is a bit lacking in atmosphere. Overall though, a very nice way to spend an afternoon.

    « Weekend break »

Just come home from a lovely weekend stay . We stayed on a secret escapes deal for 3 nights and chose this hotel for its location, close to Tenby and other nice beaches. Our room 15 was on the second floor at the end of the corridor so nice and quiet. There was a wedding during our stay but this didn't bother us too much , the music kept us awake until midnight but then it all went quiet. Food was very nice , we had dinner in the hotel 2 nights which we enjoyed (compliments to the chef) the cheesecake was really nice! Breakfast was also very nice, would like to thank Di who looked after us very well even making our toast on our last morning as it wasn't so busy! She went out of her way to have a chat with us making sure we had everything we needed. Most of the staff were friendly, not sure why the young lad in the bar said he couldn't make me a pimms ! We didn't make use of the spa as the weather was so nice but it did look very popular. Would stay again when visiting Wales . Thank you.

    « Very pet friendly »

We booked this hotel believing it to be pet friendly. The booking was really easy. The room given was in the ground floor and of a suitable size for us and our dog. The staff were very comfortable around dogs, including giving walks to go on nearby. The grounds were excellent for exercising dogs, with the ruins of the palace adjoining made perfect walking routes. The nearby beaches were dog friendly. Thoroughly recommended for dog holidays with their families. The spa and pool are fantastic for dog carers.

« Spa is the highlight! »

    - The spa staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful. The spa facilities are great really modern and clean. Lovely sun beds and tables outside to sit outside when the weather is nice. There are certain times when children can go in the pools, it can get very loud and busy during then so we stayed away! -Setting is beautiful and close to good beaches and shops, the views are stunning. - The reception staff were quite rude and not very helpful at all. Some of the waitresses were pleasant but there was no warmth or real interest from them. - Breakfast staff were very rude and unhelpful, breakfast on the whole was very disorganised and we were told by one member of staff 'hopefully it won't be too long but everyone has decided to come at once again so there isn't much we can do about that' - There was no prompts or discussions about allergies - my boyfriend is allergic to nuts and there was no mention of any on the menu - he was then given ice cream with nuts in (luckily I tested it first) when we asked the waitresses what it was she didn't know. - The rooms are average, our views weren't great. Some of the plugs didn't work in the room but the bed was very comfy. - Cleaning staff were lovely and really friendly.

    « STILL EXCELLENT »

    « Not blown away »

Booked here as we wanted a one night spa hotel reasonably near Barafundle beach. It was fine but in hindsight very expensive for what you get (£160 for a superior double). The room was pretty dated but a nice size. The spa was modern and had all the main facilities you would want. We didn't eat dinner here as we had read bad reviews on here (so ate at the Stackpole inn which was stunning). However we did have breakfast. We ordered and waited about half hour before the waitress asked if our food had arrived yet. It finally arrived after an apology being told it had been "misplaced". Wouldn't go back. You can get much nicer B+B's in the area for under £100 if your willing to sacrifice the spa option. If your in the area though be sure to spend half hour visiting the Lamphey Bishops Palace ruins next door.

    « lovely 2 day break »

My Husband booked this hotel for my Birthday treat. We were not disappointed, the staff were friendly, the food was beautiful, the Welsh breakfast was fab. The swimming pool area was good including a steam room, sauna, and Jacuzzi. The only downside for us was the bed was hard, but this is a personal choice

    « Spa day »

Nice hotel set in lovely grounds. Decided to have a spa day over easter on a rainy day. The facilities were ok nice size pool overlooking the grounds, steam room, sauna and jacuuzi. We paid approx £80 each for a spa day including treatment and lunch. The food was absolutely delicious, very tasty and generous portions. We had main and desert. I was kept waiting a while for my treatment whilst my fiance was taken 15 mins before me. It was however very good (deep tissue back and shoulder massage) and i was gutted i couldnt go back as we were only in wales for a long weekend. The only thing that spoilt it was the fact that anyone was allowed in the pool area at any time, so later on it got crowded with kids. I think if spa days are being sold they should be closed to others as it just spoilt the end of our relaxing day. Overall nice place and id definitely go again!

    « Wonderful Spa DAy »

I booked myself, mum & auntie in for the 'Tea Time, Me Time' Spa Day to celebrate her 70th and we couldn't be more pleased. The Grounds were wonderful & the Spa luxurious. Couldn't fault the day and it was well worth the money. The Beauty Therapists, Gemma & Rachel, were very friendly. Both my Mum & Auntie felt 10 years younger after their treatments! We had a few drinks in the Hotel bar and that was very good. A special mention should be made for Nina, the Spa Receptionist. Nothing was too much trouble; she went back & for the hotel bar for us several times during our day and was always friendly & professional to everyone there. I would highly recommend treating yourself to a day there. We all came away relaxed and

I joined the spa/gym membership this month and I can't believe I haven't done it sooner!!!!! The gym is well equipped and not too crowded, with a delightful luxurious spa for agrees! I love everything about it, the pool, the sauna, the steam room and the loungers on pool side. I have a had a lovely relaxing massage since I have been a member. I haven't stayed in the hotel but I highly recommend the spa! Mel

I have stayed here many times. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The pool is big and ideal for a couple of laps. Dinner in the restaurant is not fast food. It's tasty, fresh well prepared and made to order. No frozen dinners here. Breakfast continues this trend. Rooms are classic, spacious, comfortable and well fitted in a characterful impressive building. There's a reason why I've been back.

Just had a one night stay with husband and my elderly mum. Got there and the room was on the second floor which was no good as there was no lift. They soon changed us to a ground floor. Staff are very helpful. The hotel is very nice in a lovely setting. The restaurant is very nice food expensive and not a great choice if you went with children. The hotel is in the middle of no where and is an ideal base. Good for people who like to walk.

    « Good hotel - great spa »

Wales has some great spa hotels and this has one of the best spas. We have just had a very enjoyable 'bargain break' at this very good hotel in the Pembrokeshire National Park. Our 3 day break included dinner on the first night - this was good and served in their conservatory restaurant. All the staff were very helpful. The hotel has its own grounds and is near some very interesting attractions, in addition to the heritage coastline and walks. We used the spa and had a very thorough massage. The facilities were first rate and we spent two sunny afternoons on the adjoining patio enjoying afternoon teas with views over the fields to the village church. The hotel has a very comfortable 'country house' feel. The staff looked a little stretched, at times, but always had time for us. We have booked to return, this August, on one of their 'Bespoke' packages.

« Lovely hotel in a great location »

I stay in Best Westerns whenever I can, there arn't that many in Wales so I was lucky that the Lamphey Court was near to where I needed to be. Set back from the road along a private drive which had a wonderful scent of wild garlic in May, the hotel is in a very quiet and peaceful setting. It is within easy reach of either Tenby or Pembroke with their good roads reaching further out. My room was well apointed, clean and quiet. A bottle of mineral water every day was a nice touch. If I was to be exceptionally critical I would say the matress was a bit lumpy and in need of changing and the headroom in the shower meant I couldn't stand up straight (I'm only 5ft 9in). It wouldn't be something that I would complain about, but may be worth checking if you are a giant. Staff were helpful and friendly, available but not intrusive. Breakfast was good, served quickly and in a spacious well laid out room. Overall, a nice older style hotel that would suit the more mature traveller who appreciates traditional quality in this ever changing modern world.

« Beautiful Location - Great Place to Relax. »

We stayed here over a three day break and asked for a quiet room. We were given a small studio flat that suited our needs - it was quiet and the room was somewhat dark which helped us to sleep well. The food was excellent and the staff most pleasant especially the waitresses. You really felt that they went out f their way to please. The view from our room and also towards the village across the fields was excellent. What we both enjoyed was the sound of the dawn and evening choruses when blackbirds and chaffinches were at their best. We could have had an upgrade and it's always best to enquire by phone with the hotel before arrival. But where we were, a little away from the main building and having a place to park very near the flat was a plus point. If anything, the pool could have been a little warmer and the jacuzzi a little stronger in the water flow. That said the Lamphey Court is a lovely place for a midweek stay (gets a little more busy at the weekends with the occasional function) and is perfectly positioned for exploring Pembrokeshire's coast and hinterland. Best time is May between the Bank Holidays and possibly early September.

« great place to unwind »

from the time we arrived and right through our stay, everything was done to help us enjoy our stay. Lovely places to explore nearby, and the facilities were superb. Staff could not be more friendly and helpful, and everyone made sure that we had a great experience. We will be back for a third visit very soon.

« Nice food ,nice staff nice spa,not so nice room »

If you are booking make sure you are not getting one of their studios, the first one we were put in was next to the kitchen extractor and the water tank that served the kitchen was above the bedroom so we asked to be moved. The second studion was a little better, it had a large kitchen area but a small lounge area which appeared to have been fitted with whatever left over furniture they had to hand, only one lounge chair, I mentioned this to the manager and she offerred to change the room again. We were only staying 2 nights so we didint bother. However the overall experience was dissapointing because of this, on the plus side the Spa is very good

Lovely hotel, very quiet, very helpful staff. Nice swimming pool. Rooms very comfortable, with tea and coffee making facilities, bottled water and biscuits. No lifts to upper floor rooms. Easy reach of some nice beaches and Tenby Well worth a visit

    « Very poor meal »

I had not visited this hotel for many years and it will be many more before I return. The occasion was an invitatation from an organisation who were holding a dinner there. I understand the meal cost was £25 per person, it certainly was not worth that. The ham hock starter was small, bulked out with lots of toast. For Main I had the chicken dish, which came with a smallish portion of overdone sauté potatoes. When one of the hosts asked about veg, the waitress came back with a message from the kitchen " they are contained in the chicken", mine must have been microscopic. Another guest was told they had forgotten to do veg. Not impressed will not be back.

« The restaurant is opne on Sunday evenings »

It is very difficult to find anywhere to eat in this area on Sundays. Made more difficult by the lack of wifi or mobile coverage in this part of Wales. This place was a great find. The staff could not have been more welcoming and the food was quite excellent.

    « Hidden gem »

Great location. Very helpful staff. Room had a super view. We had a lovely dinner in the very restful dining room, only downsides were: breakfast on the second day, which was unpleasant - which was surprising after the good breakfast the day before - plus, the room wasn't 'turned' properly after the first night. I would certainly return as the positives certainly outweigh the negatives (just have to check which chef is on breakfast duty!)

    « Disappointed »

Booked as a mini break on Secret Escapes. Glad I didn't pay full price. Room was clean but really dated and tired looking. Dinner in the restaurant was a disappointing experience. We waited ages for two simple meals and eventually had to ask how much longer we had to wait. Other diners were served both starters and main courses before us despite having ordered after us. The food when it arrived was not the quality I would have expected for the price. The cheeseboard was served without knives or plates and we had to ask for them. Staff were helpful enough but I would suggest some serious training.

    « Really enjoyable experience »

Had the Bank holiday three day weekend trip there , lovely room and lovely very helpful staff nothing was to much trouble , even to the fact that one member of staff got a local paper and showed us places to go offered to book restaurants for us and asked every time we saw her if we were having a good time and could she help us in anyway couldn't of asked for more

« Shame about the food »

We have just had a 2 night stay at Lamphey Court for our wedding anniversary. Overall we enjoyed our stay. The hotel, it's setting and the spa facilities were all very good and it is well situated for days out to local coastal attractions etc. The gym is well equipped, with both a cardio / multigym room and a free weights room. The pool is also a decent size. We had a superior room that was a good size, nicely decorated with a huge comfy bed. The only downside for us was the variable quality of the food in the evening. In particular we had an expensive but poorly cooked steak on our first night and we saw another couple both return their steaks on our second night so perhaps not the chef's forte. Breakfast was much better. This hotel and it's facilities have the potential to be excellent, the chef just need to learn how to cook a decent steak.

    « A lovely place to stay »

We have just got back from a mini break at the Lamphey Court Hotel. Must say reviews before we visited were mixed. However, our experience was all good. We were in Room 7 on the first floor which looked out onto fields. The room was good and clean. The food was good and the staff were very pleasant. There are gorgeous beaches within a short drive and we ventured as far as St David's and Fishguard. Nothing to complain about at all.

    « Beautiful, serene place »

Came here as part of a spa package with my mum. Couldn't have asked for better service. Everyone was very welcoming and reception gave very useful advice about the area. It's set in a beautiful spot and feels like your on a retreat. The spa facilities are good and Kay, the beauty therapist, did a great massage and really helped ease tension in the back and shoulders. The food was incredible but the portion sizes need to be looked at as too big. Otherwise the food was of high quality standard. I would definitely come here again.

« Good, nice staff but the restaurant could be better »

Small restaurant, not particularly comfortable or spacious. Made up for with lovely surroundings, helpful staff and rooms that are comfortable. Would stay again but make sure you book a time at the restaurant. We went down at 7:30 and they couldn't seat us for another hour. I suggest getting some food nearby instead as the menu is pricey. The full Welsh Breakfast was missing a few items (e.g. beans and tomato). Apart from that, reception were very helpful and the studio room we booked was very spacious.

« Really nice business hotel »

I visited the Lamphey Court Hotel during a business trip. This hotel has everything you need when you are travelling for business purpose: Nice and clean rooms, high-speed wifi connection, good breakfast, restaurant and possibilities for exercise.

« Could have been great »

Unfortunately we did not have the best experience, we booked this hotel because of its swimming pool facilities and were not able to use it. children can not use the swimming pool after 6 which it did not specify on the web site . So our children where VERY disappointed. Also there is a £5 per person charge for room service that worked out costly for a family of 4, as our 4 year old is Autistic and struggles with dinning out, we couldn't really use the restaurant so room service or bring our own food were our only options. The room its self was spacious however tired and a bit dirty.

« Could have been better »

we went here for a spa day which included afternoon tea, first impression was the setting was beautiful, we we received a very welcoming greeting at the hotel reception and were then pointed in the direction of the spa, again the receptionist was lovely, we were shown to the changing rooms where we left our bags in the lockers and then went to have our prebooked treatments. The treatment itself (full body massage) was amazing very relaxing, the room however was not warm enough, so you felt cold when you came off the bed ready to get dressed, we then went to use the facilities, the pool was again a bit on the cool side as was the surrounding area, which was disappointed as you want to feel relaxed and not chilly when walking around, the Jacuzzi etc were lovely though. Then for afternoon tea, we had to go back into the main hotel, we were asked to take a seat in the lounge area, after five mins were shown the the conservatory and were served immediately with a pot of tea after being asked what we preferred tea or coffee, we were told out afternoon tea would not be long, half an hour later this arrived, I don't know if it was because we were hungry but this seemed a long wait, we were the only people in the room at this time. The afternoon tea itself was ok, the sandwiches were made from lovely fresh bread, we then had puffs of profitero rolls without the chocolate, welsh cakes (which were not great, hard and seemed to have come out of a packet), we did have a warm scone and were given some ham and cream to go with them, we also requested a second pot of tea as it had gone cold. All in all it was good value at £49, but with a few improvements it could be great, just to also add the robes we were given to put on after our massage looked a bit grubby like they had seen better days which was not great. Would I go back, yes I think so based on the setting alone

« Great three day stay »

Just returned from a three night stay with my husband. Reception staff very helpful and welcoming provided us immediately with an information newspaper for the area. Room (12) was very good though our only complaint was the bed was a double ( we are not small people) this room was large enough for a king or twin linked bed.To be fair the staff did try to find us an upgraded room but they had all been reserved . We ate in the restaurant first night as it was part of the deal we had booked. Service a little slow to start with but soon picked up. The food was delicious one of the best ham host terrines I have tasted. Main course was excellent the steak was cooked to perfection as was the duck. Good wine selection. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of cooked dishes. The spa was excellent, again staff helpful and friendly. All in all we would stay here again but would upgrade to a King size bed room

    « Dissapointing »

Lovely location but sadly the service was hugely dissapointing. Thankfully me and my girlfriend only visited for afternoon tea, I just hope their guests are catered for more adequately. Despite its flaws the Welsh cakes were delicious and the dead fly on the window sill was more than hospitable.

    « 2 night stay with children »

The staff lack basic customer service skills such as greeting guests when they arrive for breakfast, asking if everything is ok with their food etc. We had breakfast without any communication or acknowledgement from the staff. The first day we had to order breakfast from a menu, the next day it was a buffet served in a different location with no explanation as to why it was different and that we should help ourselves and they did not ask us if we wanted anything else such as a poached egg etc. Hotel suite was nice with separate room for the children. However I wouldn't call this hotel child friendly as they restrict the times that children can swim and there was no hot chocolate!

    « Bar Snack Only »

The staff were dreary and did not seem terribly helpful. Everything seemed to take them an awfully long time to do. We waited ages to see a menu, and then ages to get drinks. This continued and it was a long time before we were able to order our food and, as expected, it was then a long time before our food arrived. In fairness the food was good when it eventually arrived. The fact that the windows were being cleaned (badly!) throughout our meal made the experience even worse. I would not recommend this venue to anybody for bar snacks!

    2
« Do not stay here »

Lovely exterior to hotel and we had a two aspect superior double room which was very nice, clean and the Spa and pool was great. that is where the good ends. The staff seemed very inept, all covering the same roles and not very well. At dinner ordered a bottle of wine, waited, asked again, still nothing. Went to the bar ourselves to be told they did not have the bottle we ordered !!!!!!!! We said would have another for the same price, which they did do but this is some twenty minutes after ordering !!! The buffet breakfast service, knowone greeted you on arrival or even acknowledged you, for a four star hotel the breakfast was just ok, not topped up very well and the staff did not seem to have a particular role and the tables went for an age not cleared after guests had finished !!!! During our stay the fire alarm went off at 0010 [there was a fire in the [unjoined]Spa]. At no time the following morning was this acknowledged or a courtious apology made even at check out which is in my opinion appalling customer service !! You expect a much better service in a Four star hotel, I have had much better in lesser !!!

    « Disappointing »

Arrived for a pre booked afternoon tea. Was shown to our table. Tea was served quickly, however, the rest took about 15 minutes. Very disappointing indeed. The bread used for the finger sandwiches was dry and very cheap mass produced bread! I think the reason it took so long was because the staff may have had to visit the local shop for the cake elements, - only cream served with the scone - had to ask for jam, had to go to reception to ask for it, then had to wait 10 mins for it to arrive , it was then served to the wrong table, so had to wait another 5 mins! Only seemed to be one girl waitressing etc!! Shame as The hotel, is in a beautiful setting and its heyday must have been wonderful. It could do with a bit of sprucing up now. Best western, you need to raise your game, your only as good as your last meal, etc. Will not be able to recommend the cream tea, I'm afraid.

    2
    « Sunday Lunch »

Disappointing I'm afraid Service was slow and lazy and the staff were miserable ... It was obvious that none of them wanted to be there !! ... Not one smile between them all !!! Food however was OK however main was very salty (In particular the gravy) Don't think we will be returning in a hurry

    « Amazing staff! »

This hotel is a real gem. The decor was beautiful and the grounds were immaculate. The superior room was spacious and clean. We ate in the restaurant and were really pleased with our meals. The wine choices were great too. The best part of our stay was the welcome we received from the staff. They were all genuinely warm, friendly and just couldn't do enough for us. However, Jade seemed to be the exception to this and appeared to have rolled in after a night out. Her attitude left a lot to be desired but this was isolated and the other staff members more than made up for it. Will definitely be returning.

    « 3rd time visit, still amazing! »

Come here every year with my partner, this will be our 3rd visit and will be booking our 4th soon... this place still takes your breath away! We always have the well deserved "short & sweet package" which is great value for money. All the staff are very helpful and knowledgeable, especially the lady on the front reception desk, such a friendly, polite receptionist. Me and my partner had a back and neck massage, the lady who done this was brilliant, she was so good, can honestly say she was the best one out of all the 3 times we visited, unfortunately I cannot remember her name but again, very friendly, polite and knew what she was doing with regards to the back and neck massage. The meal we had in the night was stunning, we both had steak and chips and you can tell that the steak was of a very high quality and the chips are to die for! Breakfast in the morning is lovely, the bacon is the best I have ever tried, not greasy whatsoever, just pure quality and taste (I love my bacon!) and also the fact you help yourself to the breakfast is another plus point. The stay was amazing and I love this place! If I have to moan (I'm sorry for this!) there are 2 things which I list as purely constructive criticism, these didn't really bother us during our stay but I'll mention anyway. 1, We stayed (I think) studio 228 which unfortunately backs onto the rear exit of the kitchen, when all the staff finish their shift, they must be taking all the rubbish bags out or something and this was a little bit noisy, didn't last long but was enough to startle me when I was falling asleep. 2, Breakfast in the morning; as we entered the conservatory part, we were standing by the entrance for about a minute before we realised that we didn't have to be seated by a member of staff and just to choose a table by ourselves, would have been easier if someone was there or maybe a sign just to tell to self-serve. ................. Apart from that, still the best!

    « Nice weekend break »

An old building with period rooms to match and some lovely views of the local countryside, the room was clean and had a very comfortable bed, it was also nice and warm. There is a small bar with a comfortable seating area and a nice pint of beer. We had a fantastic evening meal and the breakfast was excellent, with friendly staff. The lady on checkout was a little curt with my wife while she was checking out, but to her credit she rang while we were on our way home to apologise and it was apparent that she was under some pressure as the whole hotel apparently decided to check out at the same time. Generally we had a good experience and would recommend it to others.

Lamphey court hotel is a beautiful hotel and luckily has a beautiful spa, had a reflexology treatment at the Spa, Kaye the therapist was excellent and very professional, I really enjoyed the treatment and felt wonderful afterwards, The heated pool is lovely and the gym great, Jason the personal trainer is very helpful, as are all the lovely spa staff, especially Jasmine and Gemma and the elemis products are really beneficial, lovely treatment rooms with nice relaxing music Had my hair done and highlighted in the hair salon with Sarah, who did a fantastic job and took real care and got the results I was after, I would highly recommend and is very reasonably priced It's also a great place to stay and enjoy beautiful Pembrokeshire

« Disappointed with the spa booking service »

Previously visited this spa and had a wonderful time. Facilities are good and relaxing. However on leaving I noticed a special offer advertised on the notice board and suggested a day at the spa with my mum. We decided to go. Monday 7th March telephoned twice left messages, did not get a reply. Tuesday 8th March visited spa asked to book advertised spa day on board, receptionist was unaware of the advertisement, I showed her and also took a photo of the offer. The receptionist pencilled me in for my preferred day and I agreed to return home and telephone and pay over phone. Once home I phoned to be told that she would need to speak to the manager who was in a meeting about the advertised offer. I had no reply so telephoned back to find the manager had gone home! So day 3 of trying to book- 9th of March- the receptionist telephoned me to say the offer was now not available, I questioned the fact that it was advertised and she said she would ask again. The manager would not budge and would not allow me to book the advertised deal. I Am very disappointed by the service I received and also the fact it took 3 days to clarify that I couldn't book the advertised package. Needless to say i didn't book and would not like to experience the palaver of trying to book here again!

    « Mother's Day Table of 7. »

We arrived a bit early and were asked to wait in the lounge. We waited for about 10 minutes and then shown to our table. We were given the menu to look at. The waitress came to take our order which she did but didn't ask if we wanted any drinks. I had to ask if we could order drinks. We had starters which were very nice. We were brought our main courses which looked very nice but we were not asked if we wanted mustard or mint sauce to go with our meal. I had to wait a good 5 minutes for a waiter to appear so i could ask him for sauces. The meat was very nice and the vegetables were cooked just right. We then ordered puddings . Myself and my Son could not eat all of the apple crumble as there was far too much ginger in it. My Daughter's chocolate brownie was not to her liking either. The waiter and waitresses were not very attentive and seemed to disappear out of the dining room when we had been served. We were not even asked if we would like coffee after. The only reason we came here was because the Giltar hotel in Tenby was fully booked 3 weeks before Mother's Day. We will have to remember to book earlier in future.

« Two Night Break with Offpeakluxury »

Travelled with our two pets and our accommodation was in a studio suite in annexe. Dogs are not allowed in the main hotel building but they were only left alone while we ate our meals. The suite was very suitable for pets being on ground floor and with excellent views over the extensive grounds. We found the food and service to our liking and can recommend the fish and chips....best cod I have had in years ! Staff welcoming and friendly so overall an enjoyable break - even the weather was kind.

Really lovely dos day and the hotel is in a quiet location which was lovely. The massage treatment was good and staff very professional. We each had a Swedish massage, then had time by the pool and lunch. No complaints and excellent value. Only comment would be that the steam room was out of action which we did not know before we arrived.

    « It was ok!!! »

It was ok! Breakfast took forever and wasn't nice! This was our honeymoon night without the kids and we were disappointed! Food in the night wasn't very good either and our room was outdated! Travelled quite a way and we won't go back seems it cost us a £170. Was extremely disappointed!

    « Relaxing Spar Break »

My friend Jean and I have just returned from a spa break at the Lamphey Court hotel And we were made to feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. The reception staff were so helpful and attentive and the girls in the Spa were lovely. We did have a small problem whilst we were there but it was sorted out immediately by the Manager Mr Paul Graham. The room was spotlessly clean and the food was exceptional but most of all we will remember how we were made to feel special and valued customers and we are already planning a return trip we can't thank the everyone enough.

    « Excellent »

Having read some reviews were a bit apprenhsive on arriving at Lamphey Court. However, our room was clean and comfortable and the spa was well maintained. Evening menu and food has improved greatly since our last stay and was very enjoyable. The hotel has a very relaxing ambience and would not hesitate to return. One down side, please book any treatments before arriving as the spa gets very busy and we were unable to get any treatments during our stay this time.

« Tries hard but faded, jaded and a but grubby »

Lamphey Court is a grand old house in a wonderful location. We've been coming here for over a decade and the sad truth is that nothing has changed in all of that time. It's true that the spa facility was rebuilt in 2011 following a fire - presumably funded by an insurance claim - but other than that, the hotel is firmly stuck in the 1980s and many of the fixtures and fittings in both the bedrooms and the common areas are faded, jaded and frankly a little bit grubby. A deep clean wouldn't go amiss but the reality is that Lamphey Court needs a couple of million spending on it. A new manager in 2015 looks to have implemented some cost cutting measures and the standard of the food in the restaurant has gone down hill. The owners are clearly sweating the asset. There are several other places in S Pembs and W Carms that can deliver so much more within the same price range. Not sure we'll come again unless some radical action is taken. P.S. Note to the manager. If you are short staffed on a Monday morning and you need the chef to serve breakfast to the tables, she'd look far more appealing in clean whites! The ones she was wearing were filthy!

    « CELEBRATIONS!!! »

My wife and I have just spent a lovely weekend at Lamphey. Firstly, the room (18) was clean, had a very comfortable bed and lovely views. Housekeeping was good and we had no problem with WiFi. We enjoyed breakfast and evening meals on both days. The staff, although under pressure worked well to cope (well done Jazz and co.). Booked in for spa treatments on the Saturday with Kay and both myself and my wife cannot complement her highly enough. Yes, the steam room is still closed, however, our only complaint is that robes and slippers were unavailable due to high demand. We will return.

    « VERY DISAPPOINTING »

The photo,s in the brochure portray the hotel to be something lovely. on arrival which was early, we were greeted lukewarmly, when we asked if we were able to get something to eat,{ lunchtime} was pointed in the direction of the conservertory, after waiting a while, no.one appeared so seated ourselves, poor service, no greeting had to ask for drinks. got to our room, disappointed, very outdated and worn. went down to dinner, again the same service, it seemed that we were an intruder, soup... same as lunchtime.. just a different name, with a bit of broccoli thrown in. breakfast poor, in fact our overall experience was a let down, and we could,nt wait to leave. the only one person who was helpful, was the desk clerk who came on at 3.00pm lessons need to be taken from him.wanted to check out .7.00am, but could,nt as she had only just come in had to wait 15 mins. would not stay here again or recommend.

    « Great valentines break!! »

We have visited Lamphey court spa previously for the 'Short and sweet' stay. The value for money is great and staff in all departments are always willing to do anything you want. The facilities are top notch even tho the steam room was out of service which was disappointing. Now the restaurant is what keeps me coming back! They treat you like royalty, literally can not do enough and credit to the chef he cooked the best ribeye steak I've EVER eaten. (I've ate a lot of steak, in a lot of different places) All in all great stay, great place and would recommend to all.

« Mediocre Birthday Break - Better in the Area »

I am going to break this review down into three sections as my husband and I sampled both the spa and the restaurant while staying in the hotel, please see each section as appropriate. HOTEL: Paid for a deluxe double room, got a room with 2 twin mattresses underneath a double sheet. While technically a "double" bed, certainly did not feel deluxe. Room did not even have hot chocolate on the coffee tray. Window in our ground floor room faced restaurant and path to spa - little privacy to be found if you wanted to see daylight even if you left the sheer curtains closed (husband and I tested by having 1 person in restaurant, other in room). Dirty pillow with make-up on it left in wardrobe. I put it on the floor in the corner of the room, dirty side up so it could be seen by housekeeping and replaced (or at the very least have the pillowcase changed). This was apparently wishful thinking on my part. Television was freeview only. Wifi worked mostly well (some minor disconnection issues), no need to provide a real email address when it asks for one. Toiletries were not fully replaced when used, some had obviously been recycled (someone had peeled the label off of a vial of viscous white liquid so I had no idea what it was - I wasn't about to find out!). Bathroom had a bidet which was kind of neat and the tub was quite deep but the general decor felt tired and a bit shabby. There were black marks along the bottom of the tub where shoes have rubbed in the past that have not been cleaned or painted over and in some sections of the bathroom had peeling paint. Robes were not provided in the bathroom. Even the stationary in the back of the room binder had been written on ("England, UK" in capital letters, strange as the hotel is in Wales) so obviously nobody is replenishing those on a regular basis. We were supposed to receive a call on arrival to help us plan our spa treatments and this never happened. By the time we went to book spa treatments, everything was fully booked and we were only able to find a one-hour window thanks to someone else's cancellation. Surely if you're at a hotel and spa when you check in they should at least ask if they know it's going to be that busy? THE RESTAURANT: We had dinner in the restaurant the first night we stayed there: we always do this as we find it lets us know if we should bother with local restaurants. We both had starters which we enjoyed (I've uploaded a picture of the Caesar salad which was soggy but tasty nonetheless - the poached egg was perfect. Whatever else I say about the meals here, whoever is in charge of poaching eggs knows what they are doing.) The main courses were a COMPLETE let-down. As we arrived quite late we did not want to make a fuss by sending food back as the kitchen was closing. My husband ordered his steak rare (expecting red throughout) and he received a medium well steak (light pink in middle, brown on the edges). I ordered the pork belly which apparently was supposed to come with caramelised onions. What I instead received was pork belly with pickled red onions and sauce charcutière on top. There is a saying in kitchens about what you can expect the meat to be like if it comes out covered in sauce and this was no exception. The crackling was in fact a charred single piece from which no moisture provided by the sauce could redeem. I was able to peel it off and separate it from the dry but edible centre piece. The bottom of the pork belly was equally tough and overcooked. While we were asked if the meal was all right as the kitchen was about to close we couldn't be bothered to have them correct what was essentially a complete fiasco - we simply chose to eat elsewhere for every other night. Breakfast was a chaotic and rushed affair, it seemed to be every man for himself in terms of seating and service. I was asked extremely uncomfortable questions by my server - who was a complete stranger - regarding whether or not I had children and told to "start before it's too late". All I wanted was breakfast, not family planning guidance! It made me so uncomfortable I did not go down for breakfast for the next two days despite having paid for it. My husband stated that the other days were even more rushed than the first and that seating was hard to come by. The good news is that breakfast is served until comparably late (10am if I'm not mistaken), which is nice if you want a lie-in. THE SPA: this is the ONLY reason I'm giving this hotel a three star rating. Both my husband and I had the hot rock massage and it was heavenly. I have some neck and back pain usually and the massage has actually helped to the point as I write this review days later it still feels better. Our spa therapist was professional, polite and informative and it was easily the highlight of our stay at the hotel. Again, they book up VERY early so plan well in advance. I strongly suggest getting the hour treatment as the half hour was lovely (we split the one hour window that we managed to snag) but we both felt like we wanted a longer massage. Arrive in good time as you will have to fill out a health questionnaire. Children are only allowed in the pool during certain hours so if that makes a difference for you, take that into account. Overall, the likelihood of us staying at this hotel again or eating at the restaurant are slim to none. You cannot go a mile in any direction in that part of the country without finding a spa hotel and the experience just wasn't good enough to justify the kind of money we spent there (and were willing to spend but didn't - they missed out in several dinners and spa treatments). We might book a treatment with the spa therapist but given that Lamphey isn't exactly central and we could try an on site experience elsewhere it isn't a big enough draw to come back solely for that.

    « Attention to detail »

We booked the hotel because the photo's on the website were good and the price was reasonable. When you approach it looks like a nice hotel. However, all is not what it seems. We were in a family suite which is away from the main buildings. The rooms were OK and warm. The problem was the musty smell, which reminded me of an old peoples home! This did not go away throughout our stay. The childrens Beds were comfortable but our (double) bed was not so it was not a good sllep. Decor was OK but could do with a spruce up. A major c#ck up for me was in the bathroom. I went to have a shave and realised that there was no mirror above the sink! It was on the wall behind me so I had to use a towel as a bib to stop the water dropping on the floor every time I turned around! What was all that about? The main building. The staff were friendly and attentive so no problems there. However, the decor was a little dated and tatty. It needs a good clean and spruce up and brought into the 21st Century! The spa area was actually quite good and modern. The pool was warm and clean. NOTE: The steam room is still out of order at mid-february!! Food: We had breakfast on 2 days. The food was not good I'm afraid. We had the cooked breakfast on the first day. This was cold, rubbery and bland and fairly inedible. However, on day 2 we had the eggs benedict and lava bread with bacon. These were very nice so well done there! The plus: The lady (Diane) who served us was very nice and chatty. We felt a little cheated after our stay. It was not what was decribed on the tin. Not the best hotel we have been in, but not the worst either.

« Lovely place and setting »

A Bit disappointed on first impressions because it a grand house but very dated. Nice large very clean bedroom with beautiful views. Frustrating wifi signal. Evening meal I would say very good apart from my fish was burnt and our braed was solid. Welsh breakfast fantastic with very friendly staff with Diane entertaining through out. Spa facilities were enjoyable with friendly staff, infact all staff were welcoming. We will be returning.

    « spa »

Having been a member for the last 12 months I have watched the spa get slowly but surely worse , todays visit has tipped me over the edge , they are clearly under staffed , although the staff try their best they are understaffed. This week has seen the spa completely lacking any staff for the 2 hour period both Tuesday and Wednesday evening, leaving a swimming pool completely unattended , surely this is not even legal. The pool side was filthy with dirty towels everywhere, the steam room has been out of order for almost a month now , tonight the steam room is still not working , the hot tub is out of order and the sauna had to be closed because of the smell of urine. This evening whilst I was leaving the poolside 3 other people came and about turned and left .

We stayed here for 3 nights last week and had a lovely stay, room was nice overlooking the lawns, staff I couldn't fault, all kind to me even when I was grumpy... Food on first night lovely and nice wine..spa and gym were great especially on a cold feb stay, i had a facial but was a bit disappointed, lacking a bit from the therapist who was young, but she was a nice girl... The only reason it's 3 stars is the Internet was not good, I need access to my work emails daily and at times we were struggling and couldn't get steady access, the staff stated that it was working so it was odd.. I would stay again but not during a working week unless it improved - sorry! But for the money, a lovely time x

    « SPA TREATMENT »

I booked in for a full body massage treatment with Kay. I am a qualified aromatherapist and reflexologist myself and often find that Spa treatments do not live up to my expectations. However, Kay is an excellent therapist and she gave a thorough massage using a range of strokes and techniques leaving me feeling totally relaxed - the treatment was caring and competent and I have no hesitation in recommending Kay as a five star therapist - I am definitely going to be back!

    « Spa day. »

Booked a spa day (our second) at this hotel. The pool, jacuzzi and sauna were lovely although pool temp a bit chilly. Steam room was unfortunately out of action. Lunch was OK. My daughter's (Vegetarian Thai curry) was good but my soup and sandwich not so wonderful. Bread was not nice and very dry. I could have done without the quibble about having soup and a sandwich (combined value £11) rather than a main valued at £12, petty and unnecessary. My massage was gorgeous and very relaxing. Thank you Kay, you are a gem. I slept like a log that night! Would definitely love to go back for more treatments. Maybe skip lunch the next time! The previous menu was much more varied and interesting. A light fish dish is particularly good if you are enjoying the spa.

« BEST (average) WESTERN Strike Again »

I have stayed in many Best Western hotels - all on business and this is typical of the breed. Look good from the outside, offer plenty in the write-up, but deliver less in reality. It seems typical of Best western to buy large, character full buildings that require money spent on them to refurbish/modernise - and then don't spend the money. Result; something that is less than the sum of its parts. Having said that, this is one of the better ones I have stayed at and my room was fine (clean, nice decor) and the staff helpful (albeit a bit thin on the ground). The WiFi worked fine and the gym area was actually better than I have seen in most hotels, though it is also used as a separate club by non hotel guests so was busy, understaffed and they ran out of towels. The only disappointment was the food which was poor for the price charged. I did not find this a bad experience as some have detailed, just average and typically Best Western. I would stay again, but would probably eat elsewhere. I could recommend for a business stay but not necessarily for a special weekend away.

    « Weekend break »

Had a lovely stay at the weekend. Had evening meal on the Friday which we couldn't fault. Service was excellent staff helpful and polite. Breakfast on the two mornings was also nice, cooked to order. The room (11) was spotlessly clean warm and spacious. No problem with wi fi. We used the spa on Saturday which again was spotless. Had a lovely facial off Kay who was superb. We will definitely stay again.

« Do not stay here »

Stayed here for out 10th wedding anniversary, when I booked it I was told they would make it extra special. Oh wow it was speacel. We will start in the spa, good points treatment was amazing and so were the staff me and my wife had a hot stone massage and it was fab. The pool area, pool not to bad you can't really go wrong the rest was grubby and needed a good clean. I have never seen so many dead flies around the hot tub shocking. The hotel, as you drive up to the hotel it all looks good, when you go in its a little dated. We went to our room which at first seemed OK bathroom was clean but the room its self smelt musty. The bed was the worst ever so uncomfortable didn't sleep at all. Food OMG i have had better food in Mc Donald's, don't even bother service was the worst ever, waiting over an hour for our main meal after starter. Breakfast, first off don't leave dirty table cloths on the table. To sum up we never stayed the 2 night We checked out after breakfast, this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. What makes it even better is when I fed back my comments to the manager he argued with me to say that I was lying. Word of advice you're paying customers are the best critics out there. If you want to stay somewhere you get the wow treatment, go to St Brides hotel in Saundersfoot this is a proper hotel and one that is probably on the same price. Do not be unlucky like ourselves and spoile The chance of a nice break away Never again will I stay at this hotel nor recommend it to anyone of my friends not even my worst enemys. How the manager of this place can be in denial and not accept feedback is beyond belief The place is shocking, the manager is even more shocking and from looking and staying at the place can understand what sort of manager works here one who simply has no pride in thire hotel.

« Ok for somewhere to stay not for a special getaway. »

My husband and I visited Lamphey court this weekend, one night away from the children. Our room (number 3) and bathroom were clean but very small, rubbish view of the car park and bed too soft. Was told by member of staff to book 24 or 25 next time as bigger rooms. Have to walk outside to get to the spa building. Spa is very average, steam room not working when we visited. The sitting area, swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna and steam rooms are all in the same room so nowhere to get away from others or other peoples children. Staff said that lots of families come up from the other hotel to use the facilities. they had ran out of clean robes for us to hire. We booked a massage each, when I went to lie down I noticed the towels were wet in all the places that would be left if someone else had been lying there. Told girl who started to change the bed but had also ran out of clean towels put on it. This put me off so I went and got changed. The manager then came out apologised and said I could have my 30 min massage and a facial for free. After reassuring me the bed was now changed and clean I appreciated this and accepted the offer. Both my husband and I found the massaged to be ok no real massaging and getting in there with the fingers more just like lots of rubbing and stroking with forearms. Not the worst but would not bother again. Food OK we both had duck, He had breast and I had leg, both overdone and gravy seemed to be a beef gravy and possibly a ready mix, edible but disappointing if you are into your food. Staff all very friendly and pleasant. Personally I do not think this spa is worth the money and there are nicer hotels without spas in the area for the same money. However if you are travelling with children and do not want to be worried about them being on best behaviour at all times then this is a good place to take them as you can relax and let them go.

« Nice hotel - shame about the weather! »

Many may feel it is unfair to comment on the weather as the hotel cannot change it, however, it did have an affect on our stay. The hotel itself is very nice, though limited parking. The room was spacious, with seating area, also nicely presented. A 4 piece suite in the bathroom, shows how big it was. Due to the torrential rain, I didn't venture to the spa, because you have to go outside. The food in the restaurant was very nice, my husband paticularly enjoyed his smoked salmon starter. I enjoyed my food so much, I was too full for dessert. My husband liked the cheeseboard he had. The let down was the slow service, and it was not overly busy - this was a disappointment. The bed was comfortable (the pillows were too firm for my preference), however, back to the weather issue, due to single glazing and perhaps where we were in the building, both of us were woken up by the rain, it was extremely loud. A nice place I would go to again and just hope for a bit more sunshine!

    « Awful, dangerous and over-priced »

We arrived on Friday with 2 really excited children that couldn't wait to get in the pool, only to be advised that that there were set times for children to swim. The room had mould all over the wall, smelt really badly and the radiators were leaking all over the floor. Luckily my background is plumbing, as the toilet kept backing up and I was able to deal with it. The food was good even though it was incredibly overpriced. Absolutely no staff throughout the day on Saturday, I was chasing Manuel around the place for a drink. We arrived back on Saturday to find live electrics for everyone to play with. The best part of the weekend was finding Lamphey hall hotel up the road.

« Was like staying at Fawlty Towers »

The building and facilities were good. However, the general running of the hotel was appalling. Negatives Points? 1. Steam room was out of action 2. Table service was substandard at both dinner and breakfast ? this was so bad it became comical, I was waiting for Manuel to come out of the kitchen!!! 3. Access Card to room didn't work correctly so had to return to reception for new card 4. Wifi only worked in en-suite and not in rest of the bedroom (Room 6) The best is yet to come?.. Whilst getting ready to go down for our evening meal, another resident used their card and was able to accessour room. The gentleman walked straight in on my wife who had just come out of the shower!!!! When checking out there were 3 couples before us, all of which had negative comments about their stays. I must say I felt sorry for the young lady on reception who appeared to be taking the blunt of these complaints whilst the manager seemed to be hiding in the background? this to me summed up our stay. It was agreed when checking out that the manager would contact me to discuss our stay and my experiences. To date, I haven't been contacted, but I can honestly say that this doesn't come a surprise when I witnessed how the hotel was run.

« Relaxing spa day, highly recommend it »

Went here with my friend for a relaxing spa day that included a 55 minute Swedish massage, use of facilities, a one course lunch & glass of prosecco & that's exactly what we got. Staff were pleasant. I like the set up, with the jacuzzi, pool with wicker loungers on the side, sauna & there is a steam room but on arrival there was a sign saying out of order but it didn't have an impact on our experience. The pool was too chilly for my liking but I wasn't planning on a workout so we sat in jacuzzi & also on loungers by pool to sit and chat which was lovely. The massage, done by Kay was amazing. I've been in the industry 10 years and it was best I've experienced. She was friendly yet professional, she's got magic hands & clearly passionate for what she does. I highly recommend her & I'll definitely be returning in the future for another treatment with her. Thank you Kay. For lunch we stayed in our swimwear & robes & were shown over to the conservatory of hotel by a therapist. I had fish & chips with pea purée which was delicious, the prosecco was tasty & I added on a dessert of lemon& lime cheesecake, which I highly recommend. I can't believe the bad reviews on the spa - think some people just love to moan! I can't wait to go back for another spa day. It was thoroughly enjoyable & just what I needed.

Had vouchers to use for a spa treatment day with lunch for myself and 2 daughters. Had lunch at 12.30 the food was brilliant, booked into the spa where the reception was warm and welcoming, we had back and face massage with Kay ,who was fantastic, nearly fell asleep which proves how relaxing it was. We took full use of the pool sauna and jacuzzi. Will defiantly be booking again soon.

« Spa day with massage, lunch & bubbly »

Visited on 18th January for the day with my best friend for her birthday treat which was an offer on Travelzoo. We had a fab day there, pool area very relaxing, lovely views, plenty of loungers, magazines & jugs of water close by. Great therapy steam room, sauna & jacuzzi to relax in. Had an hours full body massage which was amazing..thank you so much Kay!..What a lovely friendly lady with amazing talent! Lunch was delicious & generous portion size, young lady who served us very friendly and all in all we had a superbly relaxing day & would certainly return. Having read other reviews it always shocks me how overly negative some people can be..yes decor in main hotel old fashioned but certainly in keeping, yes some tiles missing in steam room but did not impede on the enjoyment!! All the staff we met were very welcoming & friendly, well done Lamphey Court..We'll be back x

« As luxurious and relaxing as a cold bath »

I bought a voucher for my boyfriend and myself to enjoy a relaxing spa day at this hotel. We were greeted with the news the steam room was closed for the day, pity noone told us prior our visit. More pity too the only facilities we had were sauna, jacuzzi and swimming pool. If you idea of a spa, like mine, is a hot jacuzzi, nice warm swimming pool, warm treatment rooms... Then you will be sadly dissapointed. The only warm room was the sauna and not even that! Nice, apologetic staff though. Pleasant lunch but to call this a '' spa experience'' will be stretching the truth.

« "Spa day inc massage, lunch and bubbly for 2" »

During our spa day experience the electric went off, the members of staff working in the spa, including the spa manager didnt think to inform us of the problem, or apologise about the facilities not working such as the hot tub and steam room we all had to ask. We both had our massage booked in for 12pm, which was unfortunate because the electric was still off which meant our massage would take place in a cold, dark room with no music! Before going in I told the two therapists how disappointed we were as we're looking forward to a relaxing experience and they ensured us on 2 occasions that we would be provided with vouchers, to match the experience we were there for to come again. Unfortunately we later found out this was not the case, and that the spa manager was not authorising the claim that they had told us. She was very rude, had no communication skills, or managerial for that matter as she said to us while dealing with our complaint that."you did have a travel zoo deal after all" this really angered me because all individuals who walk through her spa door whether they are there for the day or just a cup of tea should ALL be treated the same and with respect! We later met with the general manager Paul who was brilliant, he listened to the problem and apologised for the inconvenience that had been caused which we know was completely out of his hands. He was lovely and its a pity other staff members don't take after his politeness and people skills. On a positive note, the food was lovely and the waiter was very polite.

    « Spa day »

Went for a spa day with my Daughter, very good value for money. Day included a back, neck and shoulder massage by Kay, who was excellent, followed by a 2 course lunch, I had mackerel to start, and lamb sausages and mash. Spent the rest of the day using the facilities, swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and gym. Only criticism was that some locals join and use the facilities as a member, and so you had some using the pool for a workout and spa day members relaxing in the pool. The pool is quite small, and we witnessed an argument in the pool, as someone wasn't swimming round in a circuit but swimming in a relaxed way. All staff were very friendly and helpful, and we had coffee in the hotel in lovely big leather chairs with an amazing view. Definitely recommend a visit.

    « great stay »

Where do we start, there are a few mixed reviews about this hotel but we cant fault it. We had a great stay here for a few days over New Year. The buffet was a welcome change allowing us to pick what we wanted to eat before we were entertained by Gina. Breakfast was very good, especially the eggs benedict. The staff are what make this hotel, they were never perturbed by some quite rude customers that were not courteous to them in the slightest. Special mention to the man(paul) who helped carry my wifes luggage to our room, she is unable to ever travel light, I would have taken us 3 trips to get to our room.

    2
    « Disappointing »

Hotel is in lovely quiet rural location but still close to local attractions and beaches. Unfortunately the service was not as nice staff appeared to be disinterested and rude. Staff did not say hello or greet anyone when entering hotel. Breakfast was poor and cold. Rooms were OK, cleaned well but did have a draft from window which made room feel cold. Spa facilities were busy and steam room needs some work doing to in as seat in need of some repair. Spa staff were lovely and welcoming.

    « Disappointing »

Beautiful hotel from the outside, but inside has dated eighties decor which could definitely do with a spruce up - in both rooms and communal spaces. The service is slow and they tend to forget things and the food, both dinner and breakfast, were poorly cooked and definitely below restaurant quality. Although this is an ok place to stay, with comfy beds and a good shower, I would definitely go somewhere else to eat!

« A little gem with wonderful staff »

I felt compelled to write this review for two reasons, one because it was great and two, gemma c's negative review below. I travel for a living so i stay in alot of hotels of four and five stars. I stayed in this hotel from 04.01.16 for three nights as it was the only hotel near Pembroke i saw worth staying in. I love old houses having a passion for history and this hotel did not disappoint. The hotel is beautiful and well kept and in fairness to the management have kept the decor very much in line with the theme of the house. The lounge has a hint of downton and reminders of the Mathias family who built the house are all around. The rooms are very comfortable and are designed to fit the theme of the house but are still fresh at the same time. Lovely fluffy towels in the bathroom, showel gel and all that business are complimentary. Loads of coffee and tea with delicious ginger cookies. They gave me a free upgrade, yeh for me! The staff? oh well what can i say. The best staff in a hotel i have ever come across, they really are a credit. Aiden is the nicest man i have ever met in my life and a joy. My ferry was diverted to holyhead so the long drive to Pembroke was made worthwhile just to meet him. Now it gets embarrassing because the lady who server me breakfast with the short blonde hair was so lovely, there are no words to describe how nice she was. She was so engaging. She was like my mammy giving me fruit to take to work and offered to make me lunch, what a lady. Im so sorry i never asked your name. Next up is the chef who served me when the other lady was off. Wow, she is so funny and cool. We were talking for three quarters of an hour during breakfast, i barely got ready for work! lol. Not forgetting the beautiful Spanish lady Theresa who came to Pembroke to learn English. I had dinner one night there and here beatiful smile when i walked in was just infectious. I wish i was there longer...lol. Now i would have given five stars except for one thing, the dinner. I had the duck and while it was very edible, to be honest it did not cut the mustard. The orange sauce although had a hint of orange, was pointless as it added nothing to the duck. The duck itself was a bit tough and the skin was not crisp. The savoy cabbage which i was expecting to be shredded and marinated was raw whole leaves. To be honest the menu does need work to match the hotel. The breakfast is very nice with loads of choice to be had and i could not flaw it. I have stayed in the Sheraton, Hilton etc.... and to be honest they dont hold a candle to the lamphey's warm atmosphere and staff. I would not expect period houses to be everybody's cup of tea but i hope i work in Pembroke again because i know where i will be staying. The manager is lovely as well, your doing a great job. Thank you Lamphey court.

    « CHRISTMAS BREAK »

My wife and I like to visit different parts of the UK for our Christmas break and not having been this far west in Wales and liking Best Westerns, we picked this one. We had the two night Christmas Break plus two additional nights. Driving up the long drive we were most impressed and looked forward to a quiet and relaxing break. Un fortunately, our first evening meal on the 23rd was eventful. We asked what the soup of the day was and the waiter had to return to the kitchen to find out. No prior knowledge! My wife ordered the venison as the main course only to be told later the it was off. The waiter should have known this in advance. We decided to have deserts and my wife ordered Chocolate Brownie only to be told its not on the menu. we showed the waiter to entry on her menu but he said it was the wrong menu! We asked to speak to the Manager as this was unacceptable overall. We had a chat with him and everything was explained, but we said that these items should not have occurred, but accepted his apology. This was the only occasion during the break that was unsatisfactory as the food on the other days was god and plentiful. However one other thing occurred affecting the kitchen. On Christmas Eve went to St Davids and visited the cathedral - which is a lengthy drive but was well worth it. On return we asked where the mulled wine and mince tarts were? we were told that the chef had said they were on Christmas day. We disputed this and pointed out their brochure which clearly stated @on Christmas Eve on arrival etc. There was no apology and I wondered who ran the hotel- the Chef or management. One final comment was that our room was above the kitchen and the noise of the extractor fan was quite loud. I asked at reception how long it went on and was told it went off just after 9pm. This happened on the first two nights but not on the next two. In fact on the third night I rang reception at 1.20 am and asked for it to be switched off-which it was. It reads from the above that the holiday was a disaster, but really this was not the case as each problem was handled swiftly. For those who enjoy spa facilities this was a great place. I had a look around and was very impressed with the facilities-something neither my wife nor I had any interest in!! Our room was a standard size in the West Wing and had very good storage facilities an excellent bathroom and three easy chairs. However I recommend anyone booking to request the East wing as the rooms are well away from the kitchen and you have more of a choice as to size and outlook. All in all we had a restful break despite the above but apart from the very well decorated tree in reception , the decorations were rather discrete and the re was no Christmas cake during the period. all staff were very hard working, pleasant and efficient.

    « Friendliest hotel I've ever stayed at...thank you »

Felt compelled to write this, my first ever review, after returning from this beautiful, peaceful hotel. Booked this very last minute to recover on New Year's Day from a heavy NYE- and will likely do the same next year if we don't return before that. I'm astounded by some of the reviews below as every staff member I encountered was absolutely fantastic. All helpful, knowledgable and accommodating- the reception staff in particular as well as Aidan who worked the night shift. Can't comment on the food as we went into Pembroke to explore the local area and ate there. The hotel communal areas and the spa is hugely relaxing- and what other reviewers have called "dated" decor is simply in keeping with the style of this beautifully resurrected Georgian mansion. Rooms were spacious and spotless, my only disappointment was that I had to leave the place so soon.

    « Relaxing »

The Lamphey Court Hotel is set in peaceful surroundings in a beautiful part of the country. Our room was clean and well equipped, although we were located above the kitchen, so heard the noise of the fan as we went to sleep (not a big issue as white noise helped us drift off to sleep). The staff were smart, professional and helpful. Overall, the decor was a little dated and could benefit from a refresh but this didn't detract from the break being relaxing, which was our ultimate goal. The spa facilities were excellent and we virtually had those facilities to ourselves. The highlights of the trip were spa sessions booked with Kay - who was the consummate professional. Breakfast and dinner were enjoyable. Sunday lunch was rather overpriced and nothing special. All in all, an enjoyable break and we will likely return.

    « checked out a day early.. »

We, a family of 10 (7 adults, 3 children) stayed here on New Year's Eve for 2 nights. As previous reviews have said it is like FAWLTY TOWERS!!! On arrival, after a horrendous hour journey in the rain and wind, the place seemed pleasant - although like stepping back into 1975. Check-in was fast, but when we were told that our four rooms were in the outhouses and also not together we were pretty disappointed, as the weather was awful and the function was in the main building - so we would had to walk in the wind and rain to the event. Rooms were clean and spacious and after putting our things away we decided to go for a drink at the bar - waited a whopping 30 mins before anyone came to serve us. We had to go and ask someone at reception to serve us and had to do so every time we wanted a drink! The New Year's Eve gourmet buffet was a complete joke! Staff were unorganised and arguing with eachother and two members of staff were also having a very public discussion in front of me and 4 other patrons at the bar over a colleague that had phoned in sick and did not stock up the fridge and how "he wasn't going to do it either!!!" Completely unprofessional, if you ask me! Starters came at the table (finger food) and then we were asked to go up to the buffet where they served meats/coleslaw etc. There were 3 children in our party (3,7 and 11) who were at the buffet when a completely rude couple behind me said very loudly how the children were holding the queue up! They were not, there was nowhere to go - as we had to wait for fresh food to arrive! The disco was very good and the DJ was entertaining! We saw in the new year pleasantly! The next morning I woke and got out of my side of the bed only to feel a completely saturated carpet beneath my feet!! The radiator was beside the bed so our only explanation was that the radiator leaked! When we arrived for breakfast we told the receptionist about our leak who said she would send someone up to look at it (no offer to change rooms). This didn't happen! Breakfast was a shambles - no table allocated for our party and we were sent to the other side of the building to sit and "someone would be with us." We waited 25 mins for someone to even lay the table and another 10 to take our orders!!! Most of the party had the full English breakfast and my sister and I had the eggs Benedict - eggs were not cooked enough, muffins burnt and ham (if you can call it that) was like leather!! We decided to go to the pool for the afternoon and my sister and I had some spa treatments which were pleasant enough although again there was no spa staff at the desk and we were left in limbo as to where to go for our treatments. Back in the room there was still no visit about the wet carpet - which was getting worse! That afternoon we headed to the lounge to relax we were totally put off by the countless unwashed glasses (from last night) littering the bar.... And the agonisingly slow service. Finally, enough was enough and we decided not to stay the second night! It was just not worth the money! We spoke to a chap at reception (American guy) and told him our countless complaints and to be fair he was empathetic and understood exactly our reasons for leaving. All in all, the hotel is poorly run, in desperate need of a revamp and dragged in to 2016!! Staff are miserable and unfriendly and need some dam good training! Don't waste your money staying here!!! Oh, and there was never a visit about my wet carpet!! We mentioned it again at check out but there was just a "sorry about that." Complete joke of a hotel! No way a 4 star.. More like a 2 star!

    « Romantic night away! »

Revisited our wedding venue of 14 years ago. Had a lovely evening, felt really comfortable and well looked after. Staff couldn't do enough to help. Evening meal was lovely and breakfast really nice. If people say the hotel could do with a makeover well the thing is maybe, but its oldness is what makes it special . A word for housekeeping couldn't fault the cleanliness of the hotel absolutely top notch! Would certainly go back again. Such lovely memories of our wedding,

Despite the appearance of a rather large wasp on the morning after the night before-note for cleaners/wasp undertakers-I left the murdered body of the big wasp on the carpet to the left of the wardrobe as you enter-thanks cleaners and great job by the way. What made this break poor as opposed to good was the lack of attention to detail and some staff training issues. The room was really clean and with splendid views. The enormous bed was actually two beds pushed together-I hate that, I don't know why exactly but I really hate that. Moving on- the spa was lovely and quiet-that was the whole idea. However, the steam room was so hot as to be unbearable and I love steam rooms. I have never been in one that one could have steamed asparagus in and a number of small tiles were missing from part of the seat-details matter to me. The pool was a bit under heated -goose bumps when standing in the water? And the whole place could have done with a more regular visit by the mop bucket. We were met by a diminutive member of staff a young woman whose name I don't recall who was friendly and an absolute delight-well done her. I love to cook myself and consider eating as one of the great sensual experiences-we are, after all, here for a good time and not a long time so I was excited about the menu. We both ordered a forgettable starter; I believe I may have had the woodpigeon or possibly a starved wren and from their menu: DUO OF DUCK *** Confit, breast, truffle cannelloni, orange chicory, parsnip puree, beet, sage crisps as our main -£22. Now we all understand that Nouvelle Cuisine is a style of cooking in which light, healthy food is prepared and served in an attractive way. I'm sure you all agree thus far. However, there has to be a meal on the plate also. Confusing? Allow me to expand-no chance at doing that at this restaurant. The starter arrived, or at least the plates did. What was on the plate is what I consider to be an interpretation of Nouvelle cuisine aimed at Action Man or The Borrowers. Luckily the windows were shut and nobody seated nearby drew breath sharp enough to inhale the tiny morsels and I mean TINY. The knife and fork were moot-a straw would have sufficed. My wife loves a laugh and she commented at the time that it was worth it just to see my face when the mains turned up. I disagree, it wasn't worth it at all. It was like looking at a meal from a very great height. I suspect that someone in the kitchen has been watching too much Masterchef or perhaps not enough? Square plates! Just stop. This is from the Guardian online (I think): William Sitwell, editor of Waitrose Kitchen magazine and sometime judge on Masterchef, also hate square plates. From him-?Square and rectangular plates,? he said, ?are an abomination. Food should be served on round plates and not a right angle in sight. If you have square plates, now is the time to be bold and cast them out.? ?at odds with nature? ? for donation to charity. I love just him. he goes on- "The square plate is too frequently part of an armoury of a cook who is hoping to divert attention from their own inadequacy,? he added, ?in the mistaken belief that the squareness or indeed rectangular shape will lend the cook some kind of fashionable vibe.? Listen up people. Before I complete my ruminations on this hotel I suppose it's only fair that I explain why I didn't complain on the day in question. The answer is that it was our 10th wedding anniversary and I didn't want to mar it any more than necessary by complaining about the pretentious over-priced menu, the square bloody plates or ridiculous interpretation of classic French food . It might have upset my wife. I am not shy about complaining, ever. But to complain to the person(s) who produced this meal? I thought 'what's the point' it will not change our evening. The server who we ordered our wine from as we sat vanished and had to be recaptured after about ten minutes. Staff training please. Still ravenous, we went out to a local pub and had a lovely chicken curry and rice-but that was in a pub at closing time with no pretentions.

    « Great stay 14 years on »

Having got married here in 2001 we returned for a night to revisit memories. We had a lovely room in the opposite corner to the bridal suite we had previously. The food in the restaurant was good from the simple menu. The breakfast was fab and set us up for the day

    « royal engineers dinner »

Following our first complaint. We have viewed our bill for the dinner and discover that we have been charged £129 for bed and breakfast for a person who was not at our dinner. The function was not very good and we have advised the management that we will not be returning to this hotel for any future dinner functions.

    « Excellent Visit »

I came for food here one evening and really enjoyed my evening! The surroundings are beautiful, the food was lovely, and the staff were great, especially the restaurant manager she was so friendly and helpful! Will definitely return soon and visit the spa!

    « Lovely atmosphere »

As we came up the single track drive we had the feeling this was going to be a good experience. The hotel is an imposing building in its own grounds and when we entered it lived upto expectations. Pleasant receptionist who booked us in quickly and efficiently and sent us on our way to room 18. Climbed the impressive staircase (no lift) to the first floor. Not as arduous as first thought, we found our room at the end of a long corridor. It was grand with the usual tea/coffee and biscuits but also bottled water, table and chairs,a settee,a queen sized bed and large bathroom which included a bidet . All this and plenty of room to boot. We didn't have time to experience the spa etc or evening meal (heard good reports about the food from other guests) but the following day we did have an English breakfast There was plenty of choice served to us by an attentive member of staff. All in all a very pleasant stay and when in the neighbourhood will certainly stay again and hopefully next time enjoy all it has to offer.

« Poor rooms, stunning local, great gym and breakfast »

As it says. The room I was staying was a single room. Got a single bed, a bit short and a bit narrow for a tall man. The room itself quite claustrophobic, and very basic. Besides that, the local is beautiful! The hotel itself (outside the room) is beautiful! Staff's service was very kind and helpful. Breakfast very good. The highlight of this hotel for me is the gym! A proper gym! Truly, for those of us who seriously plan the length of their trips or choose the hotels by the existence of a gym in it, this is a huge bonus! Funny that the hotel is not advertising of such a great gym (and spa) they have on their web site, nor on Hotel or Booking... A shame Best Western, this is a great sell point for you. All in all would have given this hotel 3 stars but the gym by itself pulls it up by another star.

« Overnight and spa - perfect anniversary treat »

We both really enjoyed an anniversary treat to the lamphey court hotel and used the spa facilities. The accommodation was spacious and we had everything we needed in our room (which was a cottage, separate to the hotel). The spa facilities were excellent, except I noticed it just needed a little TLC. Staff were wonderful but we were a little disappointed with the restaurant and also the price of the drinks. But this would not deter us from visiting again. Breakfast was plentiful and excellent

« Massage by Kay at the Spa »

A lovely relaxing day at the Spa with the highlight being a massage from Kay. Having worked as a masseur for 15 years I often worry that I am going to get an "off the peg" routine treatment but not a bit of it! Kay was intuitive, thorough, friendly and inspired a great feeling of trust and security. The result was initially a feeling of deep relaxation followed by a great night's sleep to awake feeling like all my batteries had been fully recharged. Thank you so much my lovely!

« GREAT STAFF AND SPA »

We stayed for 3 nights at the end of October. We had one of the superior rooms which was a good size, happy with the room. We used the spa a lot, very nice set up. The best feature is probably the staff. Always smiling and very helpful at all times. We had planned to eat in the restaurant but mixed reviews were a bit off putting What really swung that decision for us was the breakfast on the first day. we were not down early but seemed to be the first in there. All components of the cooked breakfast looked as though they had been waiting for us for a couple of hours, the scrambled eggs needed a sharp knife to carve off blocks. No fried eggs as something was broken in the kitchen. And so all breakfasts became a bit of a lottery. Day 2 good scrambled eggs, day 3 - fetch the carving knife again. Yoghurts made a guest appearance on one of the 3 days and danish pastries just once on another day. Every day we were greeted with what would be missing that day although yoghurts and pastries were missing from the "missing" list. Other things ran out quickly. Full marks for inconsistency and also for entertainment. That was whey we gave the evening meal a miss in the restaurant. The rest of the stay was great but breakfasts dropped a star from 5. However, I would stay again for the spa, nice room and the local walks

    « Great Stay »

We checked in last weekend and from the minute we arrived to the moment we left we were well and truly looked after . The food was excellent and the breakfast was top notch the staff seemed to be well trained on meeting guests with a smile as we experienced on all through out our stay The manager I think his name was Paul was saying goodbye to the guests on departure which i thought was a lovely touch Will definitely be returning to this hotel it is a true gem

    « Not good »

We arrived on a Thursday evening and, because we had our dog with us, we had to stay in the annexe. This was a family room and the main impression was that it was a little grubby and neglected: sticky carpet, light outside the door not working, that sort of thing. The big disappointment was the restaurant. We went in for dinner at 8 p.m. And we're the only diners.the menu was quite limited so we ended up having the scampi and a steak. The scampi, chips and peas came without any peas (or an explanation for their omission) and my rare steak came well done and beige! I sent it back and its replacement came no less beige but more well done - quite a feat. I told the server that it was still not what I had ordered and I wasn't happy with it but, as my partner had finished her scampi, I wouldn't wait for another steak to be attempted. I ordered a 'calados' (sic) with my coffee but after a lengthy search was told that they didn't have any. The bill was not amended to reflect my dissatisfaction either at the end of the meal or when I informed the receptionist when I was checking out. She did say that she would tell the chef but, as he seems to thing that a steak should be boiled, I didn't think that would be very productive. All of the staff were very pleasant but whoever is responsible for setting standards and training staff needs to buck their ideas up before the service justifies the prices charged: £250 for cafe food and a basic bed for the night is really pushing it.

« Your chance to be in West Wing. »

This is a very pleasant end to a very long journey to the south-western tip of Wales. There's no easy way to get here, just be happy that the welcome is warm and the mattress deep. A lovely, even stately, hotel in acres of space. Good food (the steak was excellent) and friendly folk.

    « A fantastic winter break »

My eldest daughter and I have just returned home from this hotel, we had a brilliant time. We found the hotel to be warm and very welcoming, very traditional and cosy. Our room (17) was lovely, very comfortable and clean with the usual shampoo, bath/ shower gels, coffee, tea, bottled water and biscuits. It was quiet and overlooked the entrance to the spa and fields beyond. There was a trouser press, extra blankets and the hair dryer had plenty of power in it . We had no problem with logging onto the hotel wifi. All of the staff, at reception, in the restaurants, at the spa and housekeeping were friendly and very helpful. At breakfast and dinner we were served quickly and professionally. For breakfast there was a good choice of cereals, brown or white toast ( you pop your bread into the revolving toaster which browns it nicely) jams, marmalade, nutella and marmite, croissants, fresh fruit salad, grapefruit segments, prunes and fruit juices. There are also a selection of hot breakfasts, my daughter chose the full breakfast each morning and throughly enjoyed them. We felt the portion sizes were perfect especially when there is so much selection on the cold buffet areas. Tea and coffee is served and we were asked both mornings if we would like more. We ate dinner at the hotel both evenings and as we enjoyed the soup and salmon so much the first evening we couldn't resist having the same again on the second....both times absolutely delicious. The portion sizes were perfect for us but I suppose those with bigger appetites or if only having one course may need to consider choosing an extra side order. Service was faultless. We had two treatments at the spa with Kay who was very knowledgable, she made us feel very welcome, explained the procedures and gave advice on our differing skin needs. A truly relaxing experience. The pool area is very clean and tidy, with loungers to relax on. The pool is a little chilly when you first get in but as soon as you start your swim the initial brrrr just disappears. Personally I don't like swimming or sitting in a warm pool as I like to feel refreshed and warm pools just don't seem right to me but that's personal choice. Well, as you can see I have no criticisms, we felt this hotel is perfect for us as we prefer the quirks and creaks of older establishments with character. The staff added to the enjoyment of our stay, we both highly recommend this hotel and spa and can't wait to return next Spring.

    « Spa day »

Had an excellent day in spa. Great pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Lunch was also included which was fine. Had a back, neck, shoulder massage which again was excellent. Staff were very friendly and very helpful. I will definitely visit again.

    « Sister's hen do. »

We went here for my sisters hen do. Set in an idyllic setting, lovely sauna, steam room, jaccuzi ect. My treatment was fantastic, very relaxing and tranquil. There were 16 of us so we were staggered through the day. When my Nans came round at 4 she was tired, she sat waiting at 3.45 ready for her 4 o clock treatment. All of the girls were standing Round chatting so my sister asked when would she be able to go in, which the girl replied quite abruptly 'her treatment isn't until 4' My auntie also had a bad experience in her treatments, the whole way through she said the spa girl didn't stop talking and kept trying to up sell the Elmis products she did not relax at all!! We had a okay day overall - accept the afternoon tea. Okay there was 16 of us, but our first plate of sandwhiches came out at 1.05, our third and last plate come out at 1.30. There was definitely not enough sandwhiches to go Round, luckily my sister ordered 8 bowls of chips. Which may I add was £3 for a small bowl!! The coffee was extremely weak, had to send it back and get a fresh batch. The staff were extremely unorganized and also barely spoke to us. It was very very poor service and we were one of two tables In the whole place. It defiantly let the whole day down. It was a real shame as for my mums hen do it was fantastic in all aspects. Will definitely leave it a while before returning.

    « Lovely spa treatment »

Took advantage of the Spa deal whilst staying at the hotel and very pleased with the treatments. Received a back, neck and shoulder massage combined with an elemis facial. Wonderful treatments given by Kay who was very friendly and attentive. Made me feel very relaxed and pampered. I would definitely recommend it to other guests.

    « Fantastic, Idyllic stay. »

My Partner and I have a fantastic time at Lamphey Court Hotel and Spa. We would revisit again and again. Highlights: Fantastic, 5* service from the hotel, waiting and spa staff. Professional, friendly and efficent. Couldn't ask for more. Spotless rooms, tastefully decorated with what my partner and I noted was 'very homely' and not at all hotel like. We felt very comfortable and happy with our room surroundings. Setting: It could not be more ideally located. Set in the heart of rolling Welsh countryside, it was pure tranquility whilst simultaneously not being too far away from local attractions/restuarants/things to do. Anna's Welsh Zoo, Heatherton, Bluestone and Oakwood are all fantastically close and within 10 miles of Lamphey Court. There is so much to do for Couples, Families and Friends alike. It is located around 7-8 Miles from Tenby/Saundersfoot. Pembroke Castle is also a beautiful and recommended visit at 2-3 miles away if you fancy injecting some ancient history into your visit. It was well worth it. Back to Lamphey: The Spa facilities which are practically adjacent to the Hotel are fantastic are 5*, with fully comprehensive treatments or treatment packages if you wish to unwind. We also very much enjoyed the Sauna and Jacuzzi - i'm not sure i've ever been so relaxed in my life! All in All I would be back visiting this beautiful place like a shot. Well worth a visit.

« Impressive from the outside »

Driving up to the hotel you get that wow! Feeling. Very impressive from the outside. We were given a room that was small and felt like an oven, we opened the door and window and it smelt of strong fumes so had to shut them. We phoned and asked for a different room and we were moved straight away. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Given a lovely cool room, very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was good. No welsh cakes?? Or Bara Brith on the menu ??. The waitress was very friendly and chatty. We had a very comfortable stay, and would stay again.

Fabulous place for a quiet weekend it was my 4th time there and will go back i have been with family and friends as well as just couples all great only thing that let's it down is the food it was more a 2? they really need to sort the quality of the food it was very poor which lets the hotel downnext time I will eat out. The spa was great and they have good offers for treatments.

« All good except noisy kitchen fans »

In many ways this is a good hotel - lovely building which is has been well restored/looked after, great rooms, tidy pool and spa, location and excellent breakfast. The staff were also very friendly. But...do not get a room on the east side (ours was No 2) as the kitchen extractor fans are very noisy all day and evening. Yes they go off about 10pm so you can sleep, but then they come back on again about 6.30am for breakfast. Shame as this is a good hotel otherwise.

« Would not stay here again, needs building investment and staff training »

+ves Nice driveway approaching the hotel Staff genuinely trying, some very good though others don't seem motivated. Only 2 staff on at weekend breakfast meant they were stretched, forgot orders. Fawlty towers moment when asked for two teas and foreign waitress replied by giving me the "V" sign to indicate she understood it was two teas :-) Best steam room I have experienced -ves the trip adviser hotel write-up says it is one of Pembrokeshire's best kept secrets - in our opinion it could be with some investment in staff and a building renovation programme but our experience was very disappointing. The decor is old and tired - it must have seen better days at some point? We arrived late evening and were given room 7 - avoid at all costs! WiFi - could not get it and when went to corridor and got it, lost it again in room. Apparently new system just put in and still teething problems 4ft 6 beds - far too narrow (and we are both thin!) and really soft so you feel it every time your partner moves in the night dark - as underneath the large hotel entrance porch Noisy - hear Rm6 speaking next door as stud walls, plus seemed to be a hen party so lots of shrieking into the Sunday morning Smokey - people smoke outside the hotel entrance so hear them talking and smoke goes up and into the room (complained and receptionist did try and move people away from the entrance if you put tables and chairs there and no "no smoking" signs you are in a losing battle) SPA - all treatment slots booked already when we arrived so it must be popular (spa break packages and hen weekends) BUT should tell people it gets booked up so need to book early Breakfast - slow service. full breakfast is one egg, one sausage, one slice of bacon (v tasty) 1/2 thin slice of black pudding and 4/5 slices of mushroom. Thankfully there is cereal, toast and bread to fill you up. Main reception does not have access to SPA bookings - inconvenient when SPA is closed. Apparently it is on a different system" and hotel still does not have access Staff did not ask if we had enjoyed our stay on checking out so did not pass on these comments to them. Best Western need to seriously reconsider their affiliation with this hotel. Poor image of their brand.

    « Dissapointing »

2 night stay which was spoilt by uncomfortable bed. Day 1 no hot water. Outside light was not working and was needed as we had a flight of outdoor steps to get up to our room. Disssapointing evening meal, slow service and had to ask for more veg as there was no where near enough for our party of 10. Some of the staff very helpful.

« Spa package for two. »

The Spa is housed in a separate building from the hotel which was nice. The pool is a good size and jacuzzi, sauna and steam room are well kept. The changing room is adequate, but it only has two showers, two changing rooms and two toilets and so was a bit crowded. Unfortunately there were two very noisy groups in the pool which spoilt the relaxed atmosphere somewhat, perhaps notices reminding people to keep the noise down would help. We had a lovely massage and facial with Kay, who was very helpful and went out of her way to make sure we got the most out of the experience. Lunch was excellent with plenty of choices on the menu and the dining staff were very pleasant. We were a bit disappointed when we got back to the pool, as there were no spare seats around so we cut short our day and made our way home, All in all it was a good day, marred only by noise and the lack of seating around the pool. I am happy to recommend it,

    « Nice weekend away »

My partner booked the escape and indulge spa break weekend for my birthday and we had a lovely time. The only comments I would make are: The walls are extremely thin and you can hear next doors conversations. If your short the shower is over a bath which is a bit high and I felt like I was going to fall getting in and out. When ordering food in the restaurant make sure you order before your starving because it does take a while to come and there is not much of variety if you are a plain eater. On the plus side the spa treatments and pool area were lovely and very relaxing. The room itself was very nice although a bit dated and the staff were very polite and helpful. I would return to this hotel but maybe go out to other restaurants and bars to eat and the food did not appeal to me.

    « Hit and miss »

The hotel is an attractive building sorrounded by fields. A nice spa and gym certainly helped us relax. The staff were mostly delightful with one exception. Particular shout out goes to the lady who served breakfast who could not have been more helpful. For me the stay was not helped by the dinner policy. We paid for dinner bed and breakfast. Apparently this included a £25 dinner, but only if ordered from the £25 menu. If we'd ordered from the main menu the allowance went down to £20. So is the £25 menu overpriced or the other menu? Either way felt like a rip off. Service was slow and the food was hit and miss. Sometimes excellent (laver bread bacon and cockles for breakfast) sometimes rubbish (overcooked dry steak). Overall unlikely to return, but enjoyed the stay.

Recently spent a spa day here courtesy of the kids for our anniversary. Day included a back massage and a lunch all in the price. The hotel itself is very old fashioned and grand and although we did not stay overnight the surroundings looked ideal. The spa area is well maintained and the massage by Kay was very relaxing and left you feeling envigoured. An overall thoughrly enjoyable day down in no small part played by all staff who were helpful courtious and polite throughout the day.

« Slightly quirky hotel with friendly staff, very pleasant surroundings and good spa facilities »

Stayed Friday to Sunday. Large (non-premium) twin room overlooking the courtyard. Clean, space to move around and hang things up, very comfortable beds, tea/coffee/biscuits, wifi, tv, clean bath & shower. Breakfast service was haphazard (all the guests seemed to arrive at the same time) and improved on Sunday. Wedding buffet was simple and good, but ran out of desert before everyone had a first serving. Good bar service with basic choice of beer (no cask ale). Very nice spa though bookings can't be made through reception and they can't tell you what treatment slots are available (you have to wait till the spa re-opens then ring them direct). Friendly staff there though and Kay gives a very penetrating massage.
