    « Ottawa Stay Over »

After a long 10 day vacation we had to drive to ottawa to see family. Having to stay one night we choose the Best Western Plus. The price was good at $136 for the night for a suite in our Nations Capital. The suite was large but cold feeling. Again this suite had a private area for the queen bed, a living room area and private bath. The sad part it was all tile or hardwood with no carpet- it echoed liked a bowling alley.

« Great room and excellent breakfast »

We were at the Best Western for just one night as we were attending a concert at the National Arts Centre. Check in was easy, room as spotless and comfortable. Although we were unable to take advantage of the mini kitchen (frig, microwave, dishes, sink and coffee maker) due to our short stay, it was something that made me think it would be a great place to stay if we visit Ottawa for a longer period. The continental breakfast was very good with lots of choice. The only negative were the hard as rocks waffles. The underground parking is a bit tricky to access as the entrance is almost right on the street and you have to cross a two-way bicycle lane - not too much of a problem on teh weekend, but could be problematic on a busy work day.

    « NOT Average »

I am a bit confused by the 'average' comments by other reviewers. Although the building may be dated in appearance, they maintain it very well. The staff are amazing, especially Shelley at the front desk, she was extremely nice and went out of her way to help us. The maintenance staff and cleaning staff were all very friendly. And the rooms were exceptionally clean. Also, someone commented that the hotel is in a city suburb, which I disagree with. It's 10 minutes from Westboro and Wellington west, which is a very busy area with tons of restaurants and cool shops. I guess the other reviewer didn't find it close enough to Byward Market and other downtown touristy areas. Westboro is where the locals go to eat, so check it out! And if you're there on a Saturday check out the Parkdale Market in Wellington West. Also, quick, easy access to Gatineau. Seriously, just ask the front desk staff where to go.. very quick to get anywhere, and use transit if you're going to indulge in the local brews! I was in the city for business, wish I had more time to tour around! And sure you could stay downtown, but then you're likely going to have to pay for parking if you have a vehicle. Free parking here!!

« Easy to get and ideal location for us »

We were here to visit friends and family and the hotel was centrally located for us. The rooms were clean the staff was friendly knowledge and helpful. What more did we need knowing we would basically only be there to shower and sleep

    3
    « Average place »

A bit misleading as located in city centre, this hotel is almost in the city suburb, an area not very interesting. The hotel is quite large, clean with wooden floor. HVAC is obsolete as there are 2 electric baseboards for heating and an air conditioner in a cavity for cooling. Luckily they are interlocked by an electronic thermostat. Staff are efficient for check in and out. The room rate is overpriced unless you have some activities nearby.

« A regular to this location, always great !! »

Great location, Great Staff and Very Clean and comfortable. Stay here several times a year and never been disappointed. Restaurant on site serves good food. Special mention to front desk staff especially Shelley. Keep up the good work.

    3
« Very average place to stay »

A very average hotel, dated in appearance. The best reason for staying there is if it convenient. The lobby is very dated, rooms are large, but sound insulation between rooms is poor so you can hear what is going on in neighbouring rooms and can clearly hear the TV when it is running. The room was well cleaned and the bedding was acceptable, though a comforter would have been good. The restaurant food was quite good and a good value. I chose this hotel because it was available on short notice and close to the place of business

    4
« My Home away from Home »

The location is perfect for me so I always stay here. The internet connection has been a problem on last two visits. Although I slept OK I did find the bed too soft - I like a firm mattress. But overall - I Do like the place and would stay again.

« Great Staff, Nice Rooms, Reasonable Rates! »

This is my second weekend at this hotel on business travel, and I have been impressed with the recently refurbished rooms I have stayed in both times. Staff are very kind and accommodating. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Rates are very reasonable for Ottawa area, and its centrally located. I would recommend for business or leisure. Only drawback is the open wireless network, but if you care about network security, you probably have the right stuff to take care of that. I am typing this review from the desk in my North Tower room. It is spacious, and has microwave and fridge great for bottled water and a few provisions. 2 minute walk across the street to shop at the 24hour Shoppers (Drug store with some fresh and frozen food).

    4
    « Better than expected »

Stayed in a two queen bed with pull out sofa room with my 5 person family. The room was quite spacious. The location is great, there is a shipping plaza right across the street and a bus stop right in front that gets you downtown in about 20 minutes. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The only Negative was the on site restaurant. They are severely understaffed. We went for breakfast, waited over 20 minutes and didn't even get our drink orders in. We ended up having to leave without even ordering.

    « Good Spot »

Nice room, good service and overall a comfortable place to stay in Ottawa and near highway. Breakfast was good also but did not try any other meal and did not use bar. What else is there to say about a hotel ?

    5
    « What a nice surprise! »

Hotel is almost perfect. Check in and check out in a snap. The rooms are very clean, spacious. No rugs, and TV is perfect (100% HD, large TV's). Hotel is not so perfectly located if you were thinking of walking to venues and activities. The only negative side was that cleaning lady knocked on our door and woke us up to clean room at 10am and checkout is only at noon. Other than that, I would recommend to anyone.

    5
    « Super Fast Internet! »

Since my last stay, they have upgraded their WiFi and I must say, what a huge difference it makes for the business traveler and families with multiple devices. I traveled with my family and had 5 devises going in our room and the speed was 38 download, 33 upload, CRAZY!!!. I am glad that they made the decision to upgrade their WiFi!! As always extremely friendly staff and always clean rooms. Cannot ask for more! PS: The new signs look great!!

« Best Western Macies Carling Ave., Ottawa, Ontario »

Rooms are not clean, very noisy, location is good, probably would not stay here again, front desk staff were helpful, The restaurant is OK, but probably would leave hotel to eat. The bed was very uncomfortable,

    « Accommodations »

Friendly staff! Great room, spacious and clean. Staff name (GUY) at the front desk went the extra mile to ensure we were satisfied with the room/accommodations. Provide a crib ... Quick response by the time we came back with suitcases it was there! Recommend staying here location is great and near by.

« Good service for the price »

Hotel was nice to stay. Little bit old, but clean and nice staff with very help-full idea's for the city. Airco cooled well, but we had a small flood in the room because it was very warm outside, but was no problem for the staff. The managed it well. Little bit outside of centre, but with the bus easy to travel. Car's are easy to park down town.

    5
    « Pleasant surprise »

This hotel was a great place to stay. Complimentary breakfast. Very clean and within walking distance to parliament hill. I highly recommend this hotel. You won't be disappointed. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

« Quite and peaceful place with an excellent service »

This was my second time in this hotel. Just like the first time, the staff is extremely friendly. Located in a very quite neighborhood and getting in and out of the hotel was very convenient. The room was spotless and the cleaning staff did an excellent job. I had a opportunity to use the gym this time. It wasn't a big place but had enough equipment. No need to look for another hotel whenever I visit Ottawa in the future! Champa Neal

    « Couldn't Give it a Chance »

I will start by saying that our visit to this hotel was free and I still couldn't stay. On line the pictures looked fine. Reception was slow and even though we had a personal gift certificate from BW the desk made it very difficult to check in. Then they booked us into the wrong room that we had requested and been promised. The lobby, elevators and the corridors were filthy. I'm in the business and I was with my wife and I was embarrassed. The rooms have had laminate floors installed throughout. I'm still not a fan of this concept even though I understand what they are attempting to do. The industry has tested these floors and it has been proven that they are harder on staff to maintain, take longer and produce lower guest scores. Yet they continue to put them in. The bathroom was dated and in much need of repair with chipped paint, damaged shower, and very old fixtures. We spent all of 30 minutes in the room while I found us another hotel.

    4
« Clean, friendly and efficient »

This hotel met our expectations and we had a peaceful and comfortable stay. The rooms are clean, the beds comfortable and facilities good. Breakfast was in the basement dining area and had the ambience you'd expect. Waitress was friendly and efficient and food good. Receptionist always seemed to be advising tourists on the best events and how to get there. Very helpful. There isn't an x factor to raise the rating. The only things to mark it down are very slow lifts and heavy front doors at reception. I wish hotels would all invest in sliding doors.

« Free upgrade to a suite made for an enjoyable stay »

The hotel was fully booked so we enjoyed a free upgrade to the bridal suite. The hotel is a bit dated but still in good condition; the suite was very tastefully decorated. Also, the entire hotel appears to have undergone an entire retrofit to LED lighting. The restaurant is an absolute MUST for breakfast the next morning! Very well-balanced portions and tasty food.

    4
« Good price, nice room, nothing special though »

We stayed one night while on the road and it was a decent hotel. The room was clean and modern and the bed very comfortable. Free parking in front of hotel. The staff was friendly, especially Shelley. A restaurant in the hotel as well as a few right near by. Booked on trip advisor and got decent price.

« short stay- son going to carleton university »

Stayed at the best western city center two nights, dropping son off at Carleton university. This location is excellent for visiting the university, very well kept and modern facility, the nicest best western I've stayed at to date (out of six) Would recommend this location to others

    4
    « Good Value »

We stayed over one night to visit family. Hotel is comfortable but outdated. The day was over 30 degrees so the outdoor pool was appreciated. Close access to highways and a microwave in the room were also advantages -- when our kids were younger, if we did get a microwave there was an additional cost. The best thing about our stay was the front desk attendants selling us on the Parliament Hill slide show -- we had read about this but weren't really considering it until the staff shared some of the feedback from other guests. The weather was amazing and the kids couldn't have enjoyed it more so thank you. Overall, a decent place to stay.

    3
« Not for business travellers. »

Clean and well maintained hotel. No internet wifi in certain rooms. Couldn't connect to the wifi to write this review had to use cellar data plan. If you can live without Internet than this is your hotel. Some street noise but otherwise a quiet hotel. the hotel and linen have been recently updated. Thermostat in room was preset.

    4
« Good value and location. »

The location and value was great. The staff was very pleasant to work with, and the bed was comfortable. It only toques a few minutes to drive downtown for all the things we wanted to see and do. We'll be back.

    4
    « A lovely place to stay »

The staff was very friendly and the rooms were clean and fairly comfortable. Updated pillows would have been nice as ours were pretty lumpy. Also the hotel needs to update all their air conditioners. It was so loud when running (and would start up with and shut down with a bang) that we could hardly sleep. We had to unplug it. But then it was too hot and we could hear all the hall way/other rooms. Otherwise a nice place to stay.

    4
    « We'll go back »

The hotel (had to look really hard to realize it had been renovated) itself has; * a Pool, gym, work center (with printer) and free parking. * in-house restaurant (there is no free breakfast, however, the restaurant should not to be overlooked. The grub is good and not expensive) * Simulated wood flooring in the room instead of carpeting * a bed to die for - better than one at home! * the usual fridge, coffee machine, etc Of note, and a mark of good management in my eyes . . . the cleaning/house keeping staff are very happy. Chatting amongst themselves, laughing, smiles on faces, beaming, as they go about their chores. It was uplifting to hear them. Mention must be made of location * Just outside of city core * Bus stop outside main door * Corner of two main streets Carling and Merrivale with easy access to both * Easy access to/from main freeway * There is a Mall across street with; - Treats coffee chain - Rocking Johnny's Diner - Shoppers drug mart (food, snacks, groceries, post office) - Various small retail shops It all added up to a nice stay - where we'll stay when/if back in town

    « Deceitful »

I wanted a hotel in the centre of Ottawa so that I could be near the University of Ottawa. When I saw the description of this hotel which said city centre, I thought I was going to be where I wanted; no such case. This hotel is a great distance away from the city centre and is close to what was a neighbouring town before amalgamation. The term city centre is used to deceive you. And the litany of problems continued; dirty room, carpet laying equipment left all over the place, no access to the elevator, no cot even though it had been requested, significant off gassing, fridge not working etc. I complained to corporate Best Western but they simply didn't care and tried to buy me off with a $50.00 credit. I tried to raise my concerns to a higher level but was consistently blocked by respondents whose only vocabulary was comprised of " I am sorry for your inconvenience" Should you stay at this hotel; absolutely but only if you car breaks down and you have no momentum to get to another property. We have stayed at Best Western Plus properties in the past and have been quite satisfied which in part accounted for our choice this time, but this one is definitely a pass. This hotel appears to under new management and perhaps someday they will live up to the Best Western standard - but not now!

    « Almost a 5 in my book. »

Really nice outdoor pool. Room is spacious and clean. Only thing that would make it better would be a breakfast bar. The staff was polite and accommodating and the area is close enough that you can walk most places........................

    « Great value Hotel »

convenience location, a few nice restaurants across the street.Very Friendly staffs, quiet setting, nice and clean. I was on business trip, a week staying there, feel like home. Will recommend it to my family and friends.

    5
« Great location, friendly staff »

Always greeted with a smile everything I visit. I stay here at least a half dozen times a year or so on business and it never disappoints. The rooms are clean and modern, and the breakfast that comes with the room rate is always hot and fresh. Recent ownership changes have not diminished the property at all, although it is coming up on time for a refresh. Tip... ask for a room that does not face Carling Avenue... you can hear the traffic at all hours.

    2
    « Needs Updating »

Stayed at this hotel just one night with my son so we could visit universities. Hotel old and needs updating. Lobby very shabby. The front desk staff were friendly but slow to check in. I felt this hotel was very overpriced. Yes rooms were clean but that should be an automatic assumption these days not a reviewable subject.

    4
    « Comfortable and Clean »

This hotel is comfortable and clean. The staff are courteous and professional. The location is quite convenient to the Queensway giving it easy access to most of the Ottawa area. Basic shopping is located nearby for those travelling necessities. I didn't have much experience of the amenities, but things like a pool and breakfast/room service seem to be available which is always nice. The bathroom was large, clean and private. Finally, I got a king room and it was absolutely cavernous! Like there was a whole dance floor between the bed and the TV! I'm not sure what that space gets used for usually, anyway, it was a nice change from some of the tiny closets I've stayed in in the past. Also, free parking and wifi were a deciding factor in choosing this place; I hate getting nailed with hidden extra fees!

    3
    « So so »

Stayed here for 2 nights with my family. The rooms are nice and it looks like they were recently renovated. The bathroom has no fan and the toilet and the shower seem to be outdated or left from the "old hotel", does it make sense? No but... The service is horrible. We went for breakfast bar that had a sign "Please wait to be seated" we waited for 10 min nobody showed up so we ended up at a local bagel place for breakfast. One of the staff gave me attitude when I asked what was wrong with the printer in the lobby that was not connected. The tray from the room across was sitting in the hallway for over 20 hours... When we got back the family could not get into their room because the keys were not programmed property. No apologies... All in all needs some customer service improvement but it is a decent place to stay over.

    3
    « Ok hotel »

We stayed for one night. 3 adults and 3 kids in two rooms. The staff was friendly. I just missed many of the perks that other hotels offer (ex. Little shampoo bottles) I was also surprised to see that there was not a continental breakfast. We will probably stay closer to the downtown core the next time we go to Ottawa.

    3
« Comfortable, clean rooms, friendly staff »

Stayed 4 nights for our daughters soccer tournament. Easy to get back & forth to fields. Is in an older part of town but if you have a vehicle getting around isn't an issue. We didn't use the pool but it was an adequate size to cool off in & nice to have an outdoor pool for a change. We didn't eat at the hotel but friends did & said the breakfast is excellent. Would stay here again.

    4
« Fine hotel, near downtown »

This was a fine hotel, though I felt it was expensive for what it is. We had a business king room which was a nice size. Bed was very soft. Personnel were helpful and efficient. A/C was good but loud. Kids using heated pool reported that it was cold. Location was 10 minutes from Parliament and within walking distance of synagogues.

    4
« Great spot in Ottawa »

Everything about this hotel works. good service. Good restaurant for breakfast. easy parking. Quiet stay near major roads with easy access to all of Ottawa. Unable to find anything wrong with this hotel.

    5
    « 3 Night Stay near Dow's Lake »

I selected this BW hotel because it was close to Dow's Lake where I was participating in an event. It was a 25 minute walk to Dow's Lake and was really convenient. The hotel appeared to have been recently renovated/upgraded and was quite clean. The staff were friendly. My room (2xdouble beds) was clean, a good size, and had a small microwave & bar fridge. The Internet service was good.

« God solid budget hotel in Ottawa's west end »

Friendly staff- and convenient late night check-in - hotel was just what we need for a budget stay. We were only in for a night - however there was no delay at check-in or check-out which was great. Location in Ottawa's west end was convenient - close to highway and shopping.

    4
    « Location is good »

This hotel happened to be close to the church and the reception for a wedding we attended. The room was quite nice with a comfortable bed. The staff were attentive to the other guests, yet seemed distracted. It served our purpose for a quick visit. It seems the rooms have been updated but the smell in the hallways in the morning was unpleasant

    3
« Very Close to the Ottawa Heart Institute »

When My Dad Was having Surgery we Stayed here based on Location ... The Room was nice clean cool AC ... The only thing that was bad is the vending machine on my floor never had any drinks in it .... ( 2nd Floor) I had Breakfast there a few time Food was very good Also the Black guy with the Shaved head & always seems to be wearing the same Gray suit who works at the Front Desk answering the phone is Very Rude and ignorant he also talks like he has a Sock in his mouth but the Highlight of the stay was dealing with Stefanie the sales Manager she was very pleasant and so helpful I was there During a Busy time in Ottawa it was Canada day and she went out of her way to find us a room she has Excellent customer service skills

    4
    « Perfectly pleasant »

We were 2 friends meeting up to visit old school friends in Ottawa. The hotel was clean, staff was friendly & we didn't have any issues or difficulties. We had a quick swim in the well kept pool,& ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant both mornings. The breakfast was quite good & very reasonably priced.

    3
« Some good, some quite bad »

Good location. Easy off/on freeway access. Coffee shop across the street. Fair price. Large room, very large TV. Fun outdoor pool. However: room smelled, to me like a cigarette-smoke killing chemical. This was not addressed. Beer from the hotel bar was wonderful after our late arrival... but then the bar closed for Canada Day, when the hotel was full of guests. Room was definitely cleaned, but still appeared not super fresh --- fake hardwood flood and no carpet could be to blame. In-room fridge has seen better days.

    4
    « Central Location »

Found hotel very convenient as I had to use a bus along Carling Avenue every day. Friendly & efficient staff, both with check in & out. Clean, good size room with 2 double beds. Microwave in room an added bonus. The pool area was nice & well kept. The restaurant look interesting but I did not use. Hotel opposite a small mall with Shoppers Drug Mart open 24 hours, wine store & a couple of restaurants.

    2
    « Terrible Stay »

Just got back today from the BW Macies and it has by far been one of the worst places I've stayed..(this was a school trip by the way). In our room, there was a huge bug in the bathroom, there was no ventilation in the washroom, and the shower in the tiny washroom just didn't work at all. It sprayed right down on a 90 degree angle. I had to stand right under the shower head!!! In another room, they found hair on towels that weren't theirs and a toenail in the bed as well as stains on the towels and bedsheets. The a/c didn't work in many rooms so many friends of mine slept in absolute heat on top of the already 30 degree weather outside. Privacy was also minimal. In all, it was a terrible experience.

    3
« The room is very nice »

The room was very nice and the bed was very comfortable. Everything worked perfectly from the wi-fi to the shower to the TV. The staff seemed a little disinterested, yet helped when you could catch their attention. The only downfalls are the lack of fresh air and the smell in the hallways in the morning.

    2
    « Quite a disappointment!!! »

When my husband and I checked in and went to our room, I checked the refrigerator (since I travel with soft drinks and bottles of water). The refrigerator was cool but not cold. I went and informed the desk. They sent someone to adjust the controls on the back of the refrigerator. The room was nice and clean. Near the Air Conditioner, it had two wing chairs and a table. However, the Air Conditioner was so loud that if you sat on those chairs, you could not hear the dialogue on the TV. We moved our chairs closer to the TV and could make out most of the dialogue but not all. Since there was a cap on the volume control, we called the front desk to ask them to adjust it. They refused to do so but sent someone to turn down the AC fan speed. This did little to help with this problem. The room had a DOUBLE BED!!!! I thought all hotels had Queen beds but, at this hotel, it was a Double Bed. My feet hung over the edge. Upon check-in on Saturday at 5:00 p.m., for our one-night stay, I asked what time their restaurant opened for breakfast (breakfast is not included). I was told 7:00 a.m. Sunday morning at 7:00 a.m., we went down for breakfast. We were told that the restaurant did not open until 8:00 a.m. I explained that when I had checked in at 5:00 p.m. the day before, I was told 7:00 a.m. They told me that on Saturdays the restaurant opened at 7:00. Although this hotel is called "City Centre", it is not in the centre of Ottawa.

« "Great location, wonderful staff and excellent food" »

Great location very close to The Ottawa Civic Hospital where my sister had a brain surgery. People at the hotel were very nice and the food at the restaurant was excellent. They have a good taxi services at this location and it makes a difference when you have someone not feeling well.

« Wonderful staff, no surprises »

The front desk staff was superb. Easy check-in, and within 10 minutes received an in-room call from the desk asking if everything was ok. How often does that happen? The room itself was clean but small, barely holding one queen bed. But, we used Priceline, got a great deal so expected to get a lesser room. Dining room for breakfast was fairly priced and the food excellent although on this day it was understaffed. We would go back, especially at the Priceline Name Your Own Price rate.

    « Gross bathroom »

When I arrived I got the feeling I was in the wrong place. A best western plus.. I was expecting a bit more upscale than what I saw. The parking lot was disorganized and dirty. The hallways and lobby needed a good cleaning. I asked to see the room before checking in. The brief review showed no issues but upon actually getting into the room it was less than great. There was a lot of long, dark black hair on the bathroom floor and the toilet itself. (I have short, blonde hair) It looked as if the floor had not been cleaned at all. I swiped the floor with a damp towel and it came up black. I asked for a different room. Upon getting to that room, same long black hair on the toilet seat. Debris on the bathroom floor and so much dirt in the closet track I could barely open it. I called to complain and say I was checking out. The front desk told me very rudely that it was best if I left because clearly they couldn't provide a room to my standards. The clerk was exceptionally rude. When I returned my keys he insisted that the first room was fine. I didn't raise my voice because another customer was at the desk. But the clerk insisted that there was nothing wrong with the room. And that I was just unreasonable and should just leave. I felt as if I was being expelled from the premises. The clerk made me feel that it was my fault that I was unhappy not that the room was the reason. If I could have given a negative number I would have. Filthy rooms have no place in the hotel industry.

« Great location in west Ottawa »

In close proximity to the Ottawa Civic Hospital, which was a consideration in our choice of locations The woman at the front desk was vary helpful and professional. As there is an independent restaurant located in the basement, breakfast is not included in the room price, but it is good and very affordable. Located on Carling Ave, other amenities are readily available including a mall across the street.

« My stay at a Best Western »

I was very impressed with the staff a reception. They were very helpful showing me how to use the Ottawa bus system which I needed to visit several places across the city. What really impressed me was on my departure. As it was a 30dollar taxi ride from the airport, I decided to travel by bus so I set off although the weather was not very clement, rainy and windy. THe person who I assumed was the hotel manager, caught up to me and said he would give me a ride to the airport. I accepted so off we went in his personal car. We had a pleasant conversation on the way and when he dropped me offf I had a very positive feeling which gave me a good start for my long journey home. Richard Acton

« Price gouging because of graduation! »

Since Carleton University had a graduation in town, their prices went up! Just checked the rates for this week and they about $70 less for the same night for the same room! We were not very impressed!

Great hotel. Good service. Best breakfast. Need mapquest to get back to hotel due to various one way streets. Parking.under hotel is much better than lot close to hotlel. Parking $20 underneath. Central to most ottawa venues and sights.

« Quite and peaceful location! »

Stayed in a hotel in Ottawa after 9 years. Friendly staff and they go out of their way to help you with directions, maps and other information. Very clean room with a strong WiFi connection. We enjoyed the peaceful night. What more could you ask? I would definitely go back!

    « Rooms Not Ready »

Tried to check in at 5:00pm - told no rooms ready and would need to return at 6:30pm and they hoped something ready at that time. I was told I could change for my meeting in washroom on lower level. When finally got in room at 8:00pm - no shampoo and questionable cleanliness

    « A reliable comfortable convenient hotel »

We have stayed at Macies Best Western on every visit during the past 9 years. Recent improvements have enhanced the experience. Front desk staff know us and are welcoming. The air conditioner/heater are noisy. The restaurant has a good breakfast although service can be slow even when not busy.

« Welcome Changes at the BestWestern Plus Ottawa City Centre!! »

Since my last visit, there has been major renovations happening at this hotel. It is great to see that they really want to stay up to date and be competitive with some of the newer hotels in the area. Brand new Hall way carpets, Great hardwood flooring really makes you feel at home (not to take away from the great staff who always go above and beyond to make you feel at home) , great fitness facility with top of the line equipment and a great restaurant with great and reasonably priced menu with a pool table and lounge area (guess what, you don't have to pay money to play, its free!!!). I hear more upgrades are on the way and cant wait to see them. Being a regular at this property, it is certainly a welcome change!

« Excellent hotel and wonderful staff »

This is a quiet, clean hotel which has been newly renovated. Our room had new wood floors and was very clean and welcoming. The staff is very pleasant and accomadating. It is a bit of a drive to the city centre...a few miles.

    « Best Western Ottawa »

Had to take care of some business plus enjoy the Tulip festival. Arrived early and they found a room for me before regular check in time. People were down to earth and friendly. The little cafe / lounge downstairs is nice and comfortable - Friendly and homey. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall a great weekend.

« Best Western Hotel Ottawa, formerly "Marcie" »

This Best Western Hotel, Formerly the "Marcie" has gone down a lot in quality since we stayed there 3 years ago. It did not live up to the quality of our previous few stays. Also, there is no breakfast included in the price. Catch up with the times, Best Western!

    « not what we expected. so-so »

The bad: "City Center" name mislead us into thinking this was closer to downtown (it's 3 miles away). Facility appeared somewhat dingy in lobby. Toilet was weirdly small (teeny toilet seat). Internet kept pausing/resetting. The good: There was a strip-type mall across the street with a dollar store and grocery store as well as some eating places. We like to walk or take city busses and there were several nearby bus routes. microwave and minifridge both got lots of use. staff were friendly.

    4
    « Great family weekend »

We had a great family weekend away in Ottawa visiting other family members. This property offered all that we needed and was close to family. There was a restaurant onsite and shopping across the street. Some of us used the gym and we all ate in the restaurant. Rooms were comfortable and newly renovated.

    « Friendly Staff »

I stayed one night while passing through the area on business. They are in the process of renovating, although the impact was minimal. Front desk staff member from West Coast was very friendly, and happy to answer any questions I had. Room was renovated and clean, very spacious. I had breakfast downstairs (not included), and was a good basic way to start the day, and the server was very friendly despite being incredibly busy. There is a great little family run Salvadoran restaurant called La Cabana behind this hotel that I really enjoyed for supper. This place is very casual. It is...well, quite frankly, run down...very run down. But the food was excellent, and I'd dine there again. About two minutes up the road, is a plaza with restaurants and a Food Basics. Hotel offered plenty of free parking, and the internet was excellent.

    2
    « Bof... »

This is an old building, they are doing their best to hide it by changing carpet and some paint. No inside pool, no hot thub, and strangely the restaurant is in the basement, so no window... Only 1 tiny elevator, so it's quicker to use the stairs... To me, it is a deception.

    3
« Watch your feet in the bathroom »

The base of the bathroom vanity extends well beyond the top, and is covered with metal. In the middle of the night, with only the nightlight on, it is in the direct pathway to the toilet, and your left foot is in danger of contacting with the base with some force.

« Clean and comfortable, employees were great »

« Good Basic Hotel - Friendly Service »

Good location, just outside of downtown. The staff at the bar and in the dining area provided excellent service. Traffic seems more manageable at this location. Shoppers and a grocery store is right across the street and there is a great restaurant - Bowmans just down the road within walking distance.

    4
« Good Value for Money »

Excellent staff and very comfortable rooms. We traveled with children and found it very good option in ottawa. location is also good. must consider if visiting Ottawa. Breakfast was not included in the rate, which is a minus.

« Hugh improvement from my last visit »

I visited this hotel about a year ago and disappointed in it. Its manager send me a personal letter to apologize and guarantee that I will be satisfied with my next visit. This time I visit, I stay there and found that the hotel is undergo a renovation and I stayed in one of the renovated room. The room is greatly improved and it is very clean and quiet.

    « Great stay »

Great hotel stayed for business. Staff was friendly and accommodations were great. Cafe and Lounge area was great for eat in or take out to room. Nachos are not on the menu but are available if u ask. Not much in area for sightseeing or eating out.

« Very convenient, great staff, good value »

Conveniently located, close to amenities and easy to travel. Free parking. Professional and very friendly staff. Very clean and nicely decorated rooms. Pool is not open during winter, but it is a fairly decent size. Good hotel, being renovated. Once the WIFI system is improved, this hotel will be on top of my list!

« March break trip to Ottawa »

Lacks curb appeal. At first sight I kind of had seconds thought about staying. Once inside the hotel was clean and staff were pleasant. The building appears to have been recently redone. Our room was spacious and clean, expect for the used face cloth hanging over the shower rod. We were a little bit taken aback by the rate we paid. We have stayed at other hotels in Ontario with more amenities and paid far less. The hotel has a pool but it was closed for the winter.

    4
« Good hotel, great staff; looking forward to my next stay once the renovations are completed! »

Stayed one night as one of my sons had a procedure done at a hospital nearby. It is a good little hotel with competitive prices, well located, very clean and decent sized, well furnished rooms. A lot of effort is being made to have a well decorated hotel. Artwork from local artists are displayed, which is a very nice touch. I love it when the hotels support the local economy! It is being renovated and I am looking forward to staying there once completed. The staff is amazingly professional yet polite and very friendly. Made us feel at home immediately. The only issues that needs solving to make this an unavoidable hotel to stay is the WIFI internet - intermittent at best. In today's world, WIFI is a deciding factor to choose a hotel! Once thisd is done, this hotel will be on top of my list for stays in Ottawa

    4
    « ottawa stay »

very good value, and a very convenient location for the purposes of our stay. We came to visit Carleton university and take in a Senators game. This hotel location makes navigating the city very straightforward, with lots of amenities nearby.

« Made You Feel At Home »

Stayed here as I had stayed years ago and it is very close to where our family needed to be. We had made a couple of special request when making the reservation. The staff went out of their way to make sure these request happened for us. While spending long hours visiting a family member at the hospital just up the street it was nice to come back and just put your feet up. Food in the restaurant was good. Will be back again.

« Ottawa Visit for Brier »

Reasonably priced hotel which location is fairly convenient to TD Place as well as downtown Parliament Hill area, The hotel services were as shown but take note that breakfast is not included here as it is at least in my experience, in most BW's with a Best Western Plus rating. We found all services provided to be average or above average and would certainly consider this hotel for future visits to Ottawa.

    4
« Close to Ottawa Civic Hospital »

Very nice hotel, clean room, sparkling clean bathroom and linens. Convenient to two eating places across the street. Very quiet. Safe and free parking. Check-in was not the very best, but the check-out person (Doris) made up for it. Would stay there again.

    « BW Carling experience »

The BW Carling hotel is always good for business and relaxation. My intention was business but BW made it relaxing! The gym was a nice extra, and the restaurant was flexible if you like to eat healthy. The Best Western staff at the Carling Avenue BW hotel are AWESOME! They go the extra mile! They provided me with a plastic plug so I could re-charge my cell phone. They also pin-pointed a great high end Italian restaurant in the area. Great experience. « All for the Money »

Booked a room with to beds for health reasons, had to leave credit card info so I could not back out last minute. At check in I was given a room key for a room with one bed and a pullout couch. I guess they did not think I would notice. I went back to front desk, there was nothing they could do and yes they agreed that I did book a room with two beds. But they did not keep me one. The room had short curl hair stuck to the bathroom mirror, food in the pullout bed, they gave me breakfast coupons. When I used them I asked if they thought I would be able to be done and out in 30-45 minutes. The reply, " Should be ok but the kitchen help was not that good today".

« Always a Good Stay When Visiting Ottawa on Business »

I've stayed at the Best Western on Carling on a number of occasions when in Ottawa. My most recent stay was for four nights in mid February. My room was neat and tidy, the bed was comfortable, and easy access to the 417 and Carling Ave made getting around town no big deal. As others have said, the service at the front desk is also top notch. Recommended for the budget wise business traveller. Keep up the good work.

    « BW+ Ottawa »

Average rooms but would need TLC and some renovations to the room.... Good size rooms ...Nice Staff and helpful... Conveniently situation in front of small Shopping Centre with restaurants and Pharmacy... Well situated near two hospitals and Ottawa Heart Institute...

« Quiet hotel, free parking, personable front staff, great steak »

Shelly at the desk remembered my son's name and had great ideas for exploring Ottawa. Menu was simple but everything we ordered was just as it should be, including the nicely medium-rare steak and even the room coffee. Our comfortable room was quiet and clean. We were even asked what locations in the hotel we might prefer for our room. Proximity key cards were fast. Will definitely come back.

« Great choice to stay when visiting Ottawa »

It was nice to see all the upgrades being done at the hotel since my last stay. It was beginning to look tired but it is great to see that renovations are being done. Fresh new looks, so bright, like the big new TV screens in the new lounge area, very refreshing. Rooms are getting a new look with 48" Smart TV's, Granite counter tops in the washrooms. Always enjoyed the great breakfast and the friendly reception staff!

    4
« Good location and comfortable stay »

I have stayed at the BW on Carling several times for business (work chose this hotel) and I've booked it for personal. The front desk staff are always friendly and helpful. They're customer service definitely stands apart from other hotels. The rooms are large and clean. One of the best features is the large FREE parking available. Although not close to downtown, or in walking distance of many restaurants, it is close to the highway access and easy to get around. There is a little 50's style diner across the road with friendly service, good diner food and prices. Hotel was not overbooked and crazy during Winterlude like other downtown spots, and was nice and warm during the -30 temperatures. Will definitely stay again.

« An excellent choice for a visit to Ottawa »

My wife and I have been staying at this hotel off and on for decades, and have seen its facilities greatly improved over the years. Its rooms are spacious and well appointed, the beds are comfortable, the internet works great, and the parking is plentiful and free, unlike many Ottawa hotels. The location on Carling Avenue, close to the Queensway, allows quick access to downtown and west end locations. There's an on-site restaurant with reasonable prices. What more could we want?

    3
« Clean and comfortable with paper thin walls »

My wife and I stayed here for a night away in Ottawa. The hotel itself is very clean and the beds are very comfortable. The walls unfortunately seem to be paper thin. I could hear the woman in the room next to us having a conversation on the phone. Not only could I hear her but I could also hear the man she had on speaker phone. It sounded like they were in the room with us. Overall the hotel was good, just not very private.

    5
    « Enjoyable stay »

I stayed for one night on a business trip. Right from check in staff was very helpful in describing the amenities and assuring me they were there to help ? and I felt they were sincere. The next day I needed direction to my meeting destination and again they were very helpful.

    « hospital stay »

Husband had to have surgery at the Civic Hospital so this hotel was an excellent location for our 2 night stay being only a few blocks away. . The price was reasonable. Very nice staff, clean spacious rooms. Having a fridge & microwave was nice, but the in-room coffee wasn't very good. Bathroom well appointed. Breakfast at the in-house restaurant was good & fast. There isnt much else around this location, so having a car is essential if you want to try different restaurants/shopping etc.

« Stay at Ottawa Best Western on Carling »

The staff at the front counter were friendly, informative, respectful and professional. The beds were comfortable with lots of pillows and the rooms were clean. The high speed internet was easy to connect to and was fast. Only drawback was no late night internal restaurant and we had to order out, however, the front end staff provided us with a good restaurant to order from.

« EXCELLENT FOOD AND GREAT SERVICE »

In December 2015, my family and I visited Ottawa to attend a wedding. We stayed at the Best Western Plus Ottawa City Centre, on Carling Avenue. On entering the hotel, we received the best welcome that I have ever experienced. All throughout our stay, every employee was very helpful and friendly. We decided to try the on-site restaurant after checking in, as we were a bit hungry. I was quite amazed at the quality of the food! everything that was ordered was done to perfection. Of course we ate at the restaurant for the duration of our stay. Breakfast, dinner, every meal. Any one who lives in and around the Carling Avenue area should try this restaurant. Also anyone spending over night in Ottawa, should make the effort to have a meal at this hotel restaurant. What great chefs they have! My family and I will definitely be returning to this hotel in the near future.

    5
    « Excellent value »

For a mid level Hotel this was a loyalty affecting experience. The room was exceptional and the service from the staff felt more like a great B&B type experience. The front desk staff couldn't do enough when we needed their assistance. The restaurant and bar staff provided an experience that you might expect to receive in a hotel within a much smaller town/city.

    5
    « Excellent stay »

We were there for Christmas eve night and were very impressed. The room was spacious and spotless. Everything was in perfect working order. At first I was worried about noise being we were so close to the elevator but we didn't hear a sound from anything all night. Great bed and friendly staff. The fitness room was well equipped and clean.Could not have wished for a single thing more during the stay.

    « Christmas stay »

The whole experience was excellent The lady at the check desk (Shelley) was extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel as a whole was very attractive. The room was very comfortable, clean and everything functioned smoothly. Restaurant service and food were very good. Prices were very reasonable. We will certainly stay there again.

    3
    « OK and cheap »

The room was alright. We are a family of 4. we had plenty of space. two king size beds. Bathroom had plenty of towels. Clean, and the heater worked well and was quiet. Outdated reception area needs an upgrade, entire hotel is looking it's age. I guess that is why the price is still reasonable.

    4
    « Fair Experience »

Customer Service was fair at this hotel. Could be improved. The room I got was close to the elevator so heard the elevator operating when people used it. Would have preferred to be warned before I took the room. The sheets had some scent to it I guess it has been used a lot but it wasn't unbearable - it was ok at the end - and it was visibly clean and neat. The room was clean, everything else was nice, and there was free parking :) Good experience overall may be back there again.

    5
    « Extremely restful »

Have stayed at this location many times in past 13 years and if the standards remain the same I will continue to stay here. The staff are second to non.. Their local information should be valued and their helpfulness is fantastic. If you should ever ask Shelley or Don a question you will receive not an answer but a full description unfortunately not in colour. Obviously from my remarks we are very attached and fond of this location, it may not be down town but with the staffs help and a little extra cash you are going to have a visit of a life time

    3
    « OK for travel »

Not close to amenities clean room, breakfast good, reasonably priced although staff not overly friendly. The rooms are showing their age, carpet needs to be updated etc. Require a vehicle if staying here.

    3
    « Did the job »

Went for a Carleton University tour and stayed here for the night. Very close to the school. Close to stores and restaurants not much else. Good clean and comfortable. Friendly staff. Restaurant on site is in the basement and looked dreary decided to get breakfast elsewhere.

    3
    « Comfortable enough, but a bit a bit dated and..beige. »

There is nothing wrong with this hotel. It's a bit dated, I wish breakfast was included, but it is clean, comfortable and the little exercise room (weight machine, some dumbells, three cardio machines) is not bad. The thing that pushes it from a 4 to a 3 is the location relative to downtown Ottawa and the lack of easy to access places to eat (unless you want to drive). The heating tends to make a buzzing sound (this was on the first floor to the right of reception) which kept me up the first night till I turned it down the second.

    2
    « Best Western »

This hotel has awesome staff, however for me the ambiance was rather dull, the room décor and hotel seemd like it was from 1984, bed was not comfortable and there is very little to do inside the hotel (no sprts bar, restaurant was meh, it was very small and always too busy.) Not the greatest experience considering the high price

    3
« Comfortable and close to all »

Although the hotel no longer has a hot tub or sauna, for the price, it is still good value with a complimentary hot breakfast. Rooms are clean, yet I have had more comfortable beds. The electric heat also dries out the rooms - perhaps a portable humidifier is in order. Living out of hotels, you tend to get very picky.

    2
« Great service but oh, the plumbing! »

First world service combined with third world plumbing. The tap at the bathroom sink gushed yellow water for at least 30 seconds when I first turned it on, both after I arrived and the following morning. Same thing with the shower. The tap at the bathroom sink had only two settings - scalding hot or ice cold. The shower tap had arrows that indicated which way to turn to get hot water or cold, but these arrows pointed in the wrong direction, as I discovered once I was under the shower and all lathered up. The internet in the room was slow and intermittent. On the other hand, my room was spacious and the bed was comfortable (I'm picky about my pillows, but the ones in this room passed the test). And they were generous with their coffee, giving me three pods of very nice regular coffee and one of decaffeinated.

« Friendly Staff, Clean property, Amazing location »

I travelled as a single woman to this very well located Hotel. I must admit that I was booked at another hotel and due to the bad reviews about cleanliness I cancelled and rebooked this property. AND .. I was SOOO pleased that I had!! The staff was very efficient and friendly.. I was checked in ..in minutes. The room was spacious and clean. With the refrigerator and microwave it made my "holiday" . The bathroom was well equipped with an excellent hair dryer and it was exceptionally clean. The staff on the front desk was GREAT!! especially Donnalee. . Now the one downfall.. and I would say it is a major one is the "restaurant" . It is located in the basement.. and it should be..it is stark.. unwelcoming and the food is barely OK. The one waitress even locked!! the door with us in there and with clients knocking at the door...while she delivered room service!! Is that not against the law..as well as very rude?? I definitely got a "put down" for unlocking the door. My Goodness!! the client could see us .. It was a good location close to the Highway to the "Trainyards" Ikea..St Laurent Shopping . Perfect also very nice for anyone that has relatives or friends at the Civic Hospital. Very Good Experience.

    « Comfortable and friendly »

I was in Ottawa for some meetings with researchers at AgCanada. This lovely accommodation was the closes one within walking distance. When I checked in, I got the feeling that most people stayed there for business. When I checked in, there was a very lovely staff member (sorry can't recall her name). She was very enthusiastic about her city: told me all the cool stuff that was happening there that I should check out when I was there. A couple of hours afterwards, I received a courtesy call from the same staff member, checking that I was satisfied with my room. Lovely!

« Great For My Study Weekend »

I was seeking a relatively quiet hotel not too far from home that was comfortable and not too far from amenities in order to have a study weekend. This hotel fit the bill, and I was pleased with my experience. My room was very comfortable, had a fridge, which was a bonus, and the TV was good. The hotel had a restaurant in the basement, which I visited for breakfast, and for a dessert and I thought the food quality was high and the service good. Across the street is the Westgate Mall, which was pretty dead on Sunday when I visited it (most of the stores were closed, so why would lots of people go!) to have a short break. I was touched with the nice Remembrance Day memorial in the lobby.

Only spent 1 night but I was really happy with the check in/out experience. The same lady on both occasions was very helpful, and pleasant. « Best Western - City Centre Ottawa »

Very nice hotel, finally comfortable beds that did not feel like picnic tables! Good room service, fast and good quality. Staff very friendly and helpful. All in all, excellent experience. NOTE: Seems Tuesday and Wednesday most expensive nights, found the price VERY high for a BW at $189.

    « nice place »

stayed overnight here on a weekend trip to Ottawa and Gatineau. Front desk staff were excellent. Donnalee is a credit to the chain. She was efficient but also loads of fun. The room was lovely and the beds comfortable. Everything was up to date and very clean. We ate in café on site for breakfast. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Location is good with easy access to all main routes. My only concern(not a complaint) a concern, was that the water coming out of the bathroom tap was dangerously hot. I scalded my hand. My fear is that if it had been a small child turning the tap on .....my only disappointment is that I have submitted this as part of the post visit survey and have yet to hear from Best Western. not a reflection on the hotel itself) Would go back for sure

    « Feels Like Home »

This has the feeling if a smaller, home-like hotel, which is exactly what I was looking for. Everything is very clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. I love how quiet it is. It has been modernized but is a bit older building. The upgrades are wonderful and people are very helpful. Some people complain there is no "free breakfast" but there is a hotel right on site. I will definitely come again!

We stayed at the Best Western on Carling Avenue, good location and easy access to downtown. My husband had a business meeting which he was able to commute to quite easily. We were able to enjoy the sites of downtown Ottawa, ie the Parliament buildings, Rideau Canal and had a great lunch.

    « Comfortable & Friendly »

Myself, wife and adult daughter booked for one night over Thanksgiving. We had a room with a double bed and a single bed. The room was quite spacious and the bathroom was fine. It was easy to find off the main highway and close to downtown & the people we were visiting. There was a restaurant in the basement and it served a very nice breakfast. We found it very comfortable & the staff were friendly. We would definitely stay there again.

« There are nicer hotels in the area! »

Stopped in Sept. on our way back from the east coast for 3 nights. Check in was easy and quick. The room was OK but needed an update badly. We did not take advantage of the pool or gym as we were extremely tired from our 10 hr. Drive. But they both looked OK. There is not an included breakfast offered here but there is a tiny place in the basement to purchase one. We didn't eat there but chose to eat at a retro place across the street in the mall. About a 10 min. drive from Parliament. I don't think I would stay here again.

    « Great service, comfy stay...good experience! »

I've been staying at Best Western Plus, Ottawa City Center off and on for the past few years. Each stay/experience, becomes one more great memory, and one to definitely share with friends and family. Service is very good, the place is clean, the food is awesome. Even better, it is close enough to the trendies places in town. There is a good reason as to why I keep coming back! Thanks for your service!!

    « Excellent choice »

Whenever I can I go to this hotel for business purposes. The rooms are clean and quiet. Internet is free and relatively fast. This hotel is well located, need Carling and the 417 highway. There is a also a small shopping mall opposite the hotel with restaurants and coffee shops.

« Always friendly and always clean »

I stay here when I am in town for business five times a year. I have stayed at this hotel over 20 times in the last five years. I have never has a bad experience. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The rooms and the entire hotel is always clean. It is a great place to stay.

« Not a typical Best Western, this one is poor. »

I normally have good experiences when I stay at a Best Western hotel, yet this one is not worth the money. The front staff are very nice, but that's the best thing I can say about it. Dated furnishings, no small breakfast included, no view, noisy. Seems like customer comfort is of no concern to the owners. And yet, they bill the same high room rates as other Best Western's across the country who do care about those things, and offer more in the way of comfort for their guests. Choose another Best Western in Ottawa for your stay, the Ottawa City Centre Best Western is extremely over-priced / poor value.

Very nice rooms with large 45+ inch TV and good bathrooms. But pricey and breakfast not included. The restaurant area is in the basement which made the space feel closed in and service was below average.

    « Great hotel »

Excellent hotel in the downtown Ottawa area. Very good staff, especially the night guy with the long hair (sorry I can't remember his name) but he was extremely friendly. Beds very comfortable, rooms a good size and one of the best showers I have used. Enjoyed the shampoo and conditioner dispenser in the shower. Did not use the restaurant or pool so cannot comment on those. Will definitely be back if in the area again.

    « Great Location »

This hotel is in a great location just 15 minutes from downtown. Older hotel but the rooms are well maintained, plus they are in the process of upgrading. Large outdoor pool and a restaurant on site. Great for families or business, I enjoyed my stay.
