« Looks good, but once inside you'll notice the rate does not match the room »

Yes we understand the hotel is undergoing renovations following a fire. That said in a $150.00 room we expected a telephone, bathroom vent fan, curtains covering the venetian blinds on the front window, better interior lighting, more that one chair, bedside night stand that at least was upto the mattress height and better lighting that included coverage for the two beds, hair dryer, shaving mirror, desk lamp, etc, etc. Honestly this was more like an $89.00 room. Very limited lighting and no lights turn on with the entry door switch. A bathroom with no vent fan? I'd question if this unfortunate lacking feature is even upto the local building codes. Lighting, well there are a very few options. Surely the person who was or is responsible for this property has seemingly never worked or worse yet stayed in a motel/hotel as so much was missing. All this said the courtyard pool area appeared very nice and recently refurbished.

    « Never Again »

I thought the hotel was good but within 24 hours there was a damaging tornado in the area and the hotel had no power. The hotel did NOT do a good job of communicating. No one even knocked on the door to let me know anything was going on and I never heard any sirens. After pushing, they put me in a hotel for 2 nights a few miles away but then forced me to move back again when the power came on but they were in no way ready for guests as the kitchen was out of order and the place was still a wreck. A/C unit di,dn't work right and couldn't open window, asked to be moved, just all around hectic but I had prepaid the stay so was stuck. They refused to just credit me for everything but the first night. I would have gladly just moved to another hotel for the rest of the stay. They didn't handle it well. It was a serious storm, the two tornadoes that touched down killed 2 people in town but they were in complete disarray with no apparent emergency procedures that made any sense.

« Great Location and Nice Hotel »

This was a lucky find on a short notice. I needed to go to Sarasota to have a meeting with a new business owner about creating murals for her new building. It was right after the new year so rates were dropped down. I got super lucky with the hotel and its price. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The room was clean and roomy. I had two queen beds. There wasn't much of a view. They had a great pool and poolside bar/restaurant. I went for a nice long swim upon my arrival. After that, I had the shrimp appetizer and a few cocktails at the outdoor bar. The bartender was great. It was a fairly good experience. There were a few things I didn't like. I didn't care for the gaudy paintings in my room. I'm an artist and really wish I could see quality work on hotel walls such as what I create. It won't stop me from going back, because it is a nice place to stay and super location. Also, you need to be a bit mindful of your step when you walk out into the back parking lot. There is a ramp and it drops off a bit, but you don't notice it in the dark until you take a step and twist your ankle. I'd recommend put a few strips of glow in the dark tape so an accident doesn't occur to your guests. I did twist my ankle, eventually it healed. I didn't pursue anything further with the hotel, but I did sign a form and the front desk was very helpful. Other then that it was a terrific stay, and I'd go back in a heart beat.

    « What a nice suprise! »

Purchased the room through hotwire for a great price. I was mildly disappointed after I paid and the hotel was revealed. The pictures didn't quite do it justice. I can not complain! The grounds were well kept; the room was nice-UPDATED! The pool area was equipped with a bar and sand just like a beach! Although it was very quiet, The restaurant bartender was AWESOME! I wish I could remember his name. I saw some of the reviews say that the location was an issue but for us it not bad. There was shopping, Walmart's and restaurants less than 10 minutes away. Siesta Key beach was around 15 min away. Not bad in my opinion.

« Clean and great location »

Love the location, close to our favorite beach. The room is very clean and super comfortable beds. The pool is great and the front desk people are pretty good. The restaurant not that great at all, rude waiters and not good food either. But many nice restaurant close enough.

    « Quaint Hotel »

The location is a little noisy on the main street into town but it is quite charming once inside. There are two hotels located on the property....ask for the one in the front. The one in the back is a little shabby. It was perfectly located for my stay since my family lives right across the highway. The restaurant and bar was lovely and had great food and ambience. I did not have time for the pool but the area looks very inviting. I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

    « Nice hotel. »

We enjoyed staying at Bentley's. Very clean hotel and friendly staff. As far as location goes not very close to Siesta Key or Venice Beach. I was not very thrilled with the location. I would recommend this hotel however, be aware that is not so close to the beach,it does not have a microwave in the rooms,, no open windows or patios... I also thought the room could have been a little larger.... Loved the shower. Gorgeous pool with entertainment everyday unless it rains.

« Nicely appointed, but that's about it. »

This review is for Bentley's, there is a separate building on the property owned by the same people called Virage. The place looks good, new furniture and fresh paint. But, rooms are extremely damp and smelly even when we left the air running to try and dry out the air. Like I said, the rooms look nice, but are not clean. There is left over smudges and dust/dirt in bathrooms, and on surfaces generally. Bed was comfortable, but the pillows stunk because of the long-term dampness. Plenty of parking, big pool area - all rooms face the common pool area, we had a lower level room, if the blinds are not perfectly in place people can see in especially after sundown. Maintenance entered our room to spray for bugs when we were out for the day after I told the front desk to NOT have them enter when I'm not there and that I would make myself available if needed- not cool. This place calls itself a resort, but I did not eat/drink at the restaurant or bar. The place has lots of potential, but management needs to take note of the details.

    « Great wedding reception »

We recently held a wedding reception at Bentleys. We received many great compliments from our guests. The catering staff was attentive to every detail. They certainly made the evening most enjoyable. The dessert table was eye popping. Compliments to the chef. The salmon dinner was a big hit. It seems everyone liked that dish the most. Everyone sure had a great time with the shrimp cocktail. The quality of the shrimp was extraordinary! The bar staff was kept busy the whole night. Can't say enough about the staff and how well they kept the food and booze flowing freely........... Those guests who stayed at the hotel that weekend also enjoyed the tropical hotel atmosphere. Great pool and tiki bar! I'm sure they will remember Bentley's the next time they are visiting Sarasota.

« Nice Hotel, odd location »

We booked this hotel for a business trip and were surprised at how nice it was for it's seemingly random location in Osprey. It has a restaurant, tiki bar and apparently a night club. The room was clean and updated, the bathroom was really nice and a fair size, and the bed was comfortable. It feels safe as you have to use a key card for all outside doors other than the main entrance. The room had a fridge, coffee maker and safe, though the safe is a laughable size. Nice to have one, though. The staff was very, very nice. As far as location, not exactly close to the beach, but easy drives to Siesta Key or Venice Beach are great. Wal-Mart is right down the road as well as a nice Westfield mall just bit further. Again, nice hotel. Only real downside was the obvious Fabreeze smell in the halls. While a clean scent, a bit strong. Would stay again.

    « Disappointing »

TL; DR - Never again. I stayed here with two children for one night after spending the day at the beach. As soon as we walked into the lobby I was unimpressed. We stood at the desk for a good five minutes while three different staff members discussed some issue other guests were having. There were no other guests around the lobby - just myself and the children. Still, the staff members continued their conversation as if we weren't standing two feet away from their faces. My two little ones were exhausted and hungry and made it known (the toddler started whining). It was only then that a staff member looked at me (as if I had magically appeared and not been standing in the same spot for five minutes already); she told me she'd be right with me and continued with her conversation for several more minutes before finally beckoning me forward to check in. She was sufficiently polite, but the damage was done. Once we checked in we were told where to go (awfully labeled hallways/doors, btw). The room smelled quite stale but seemed clean...until I walked toward the side of the bed where I saw several Goldfish crackers. Yes. I know. Disgusting. The towels in the room were discolored. Every single towel. In all my years of traveling across several countries, I have never encountered that. It was bizarre. Who would keep a single discolored towel? Let alone six? Very questionable for any hotel. But the biggest nuisance was a missing blind on the sliding door to the patio. Right across our patio there were people drinking at the Tiki Bar; every single person could clearly see into our room if our light was on (it was nighttime). I felt so uncomfortable that I changed the kids into their pajamas in the bathroom and kept the bedroom light off. Another first for me! We were too exhausted to ask for another room, so we just went to sleep right away and were out first thing the next day. I definitely will not return.

    « Girls weekend »

Had a wonderful time here. Very beautiful place. Michael was very nice and sweet. The Dj and bartender were amazing. A very romantic place for couples but my ladies enjoyed themselves. Just need more places to eat that are open and not close early. I will return!!!!!

« Perfect 'fishing camp" for central Gulf Coast tarpon hunters »

For the past 8-10 years my fishing buddy and I (both 75+ years old) have driven to Florida in early summer to fish for tarpon off the central Gulf coast. We have stayed at a variety of places, and about 5 years ago we stayed at Bentley's on the recommendation of our fishing guide. We have been staying there ever since. In my opinion the place has improved every year since our first visit. The room rates are moderate, the rooms themselves are modern and well maintained, and the service is outstanding. This year the service at the "tiki bar," at which we always have a drink to rehydrate after cooking in the early morning sun in the guide's flat boat, and usually wind up eating dinner, was particularly great. Families traveling to the area seem to like Bentley's because the swimming pool is usually full of children. I can't comment on it as a family destination, but I can say that if you are planning to go to the Florida Gulf coast to try to catch tarpon in the June run (apparently they go elsewhere starting in July), you couldn't find a better place to stay than Bentley's.
