George Hotel, BW Signature Collection

We stayed for 2 nights at this excellent hotel, which was an ideal base for a Norfolk/Suffolk mini break. The King Suite is lovely; spacious, clean, comfortable with all of the in-room amenities you need and the lovely bath is a treat when so many hotels only have showers nowadays. The evening meal we had in the bistro was excellent and the continental breakfast was very good, though the croissants were a little dry. All members of staff were unfailingly friendly and helpful. The option to not have towels changed if only staying for a couple of nights would up the sustainability points but all-in-all I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel if visiting Norwich or the area.

We stayed at the George along with a number of friends as part of a group taking part in a nearby sports event. In fact the hotel was our base to meet , stay, socialise and finally to hold a last-night gala dinner. It could not have gone better. The rooms were comfortable and ours was certainly quiet, the food was excellent especially at the dinner where 50 people were catered for very smoothly and the staff were friendly and efficient. The George has a relaxed air about it which a number of our firends commented on and, as organizers of the whole event, we were relieved that we had made a very sound choice.

Just finished 5 nights at the best, Best Western Hotel. Location perfect for us, 10-15 minute walk into Norwich, which is what we wanted, we also wanted a quiet comfortable room and decent food. We got a very quiet, very large, 2 rooms, 2 teles, settee, armchair and all the other usual bits and bobs. Food was a problem however, too tasty, too much choice, is it starter and sweet no main, or go for all three? What a magical problem to have. So the only real variable in hotels is the staff, who to single put for praise, apart from all of them, very difficult to answer. I believe that in any organisation the attitude of staff is set by the man at the top. In this case a manager called I believe, Ian. The way he pulled my leg after I lost my room key, in the busy part of an evening says it all. All the other staff from the junior members up were equally brilliant. If there is a better Best Western, I've yet to find it. Thanks all.

The woman was extremely rude in the morning during check out. Accusing me of taking a key which was not even taken and proven so later. Very ignorant and then had the audacity to say we were rude to her. Absolutely disgusting as the staff working the night before were so much more pleasant.

Cannot praise the hotel and restaurant enough. Cosy room with everything you need. The staff are exemplary. The restaurant is lovely food is amazing and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Top quality food reasonably priced. Will definitely be coming back. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I stay at this hotel when working in the Norfolk area and it's a fantastic place to stay. Firstly, Helen on reception is absolutely amazing, 100 % professional, really friendly and restores my faith when checking into hotels. Chained Hotels, you know who you are should send your future receptionists to watch Helen at work because this is the way a true receptionist should work like. Great sized room with nice bathroom, comfortable bed and a decent sized TV. Really nice restaurant , good breakfast and excellent lunchtime and evening menu. Fantastic experience, Well done The George Hotel !

A great location for a stay in Norwich. Easy to find and great to have free parking. All the staff were very polite and helpful. A very clean hotel with good facilities, we ate in the Brasserie on our first night and were impressed with the service and food. Breakfast was great too. Will certainly stay here again when travelling to Norwich.

Had enjoyable two night stay. For me the hotel feels over modernised for a Georgian building, lost its character. a tad hence 4 stars. However the room was perfectly ok and slept well. Arrived after 23.00 due to train delays but still offered a drink in the bar. As I said the staff were brilliant, sooo friendly and chatt., The chap who stayed late to do the new menu and the young lady with him next night. Didn't have a chance to try it sorry, had other plans.

Great stay and fantastic value…room comfortable and clean, decorated to a great standard and as the pictures. Friendly staff and owners doing a great job and understand what is needed to excel. Would highly recommend if you are in Norwich compared to other locations. Also, the chef creates orgasmic food, high quality at superb value!

Thank you for a great two night stay we travelled from Manchester to Norwich and arriving late it was fabulous to be able to get great food in the bistro so nice we ate in both nights. The staff were really friendly and this made for a welcoming stay. Our room was comfortable with everything we needed great pillows and warm fluffy towels too.

We used to stay at this hotel regularly for the past 8 years and it was excellent. We haven't been here for the past year and things have deteriorated, very sad. We were in room 25 and the first night the banging started at 8.20am. Roofers had put felt on the roof and were nailing in the wooden struts for the sheeting. The next morning we were awoken by creaking from the room above. Somebody was walking around in the room and the floorboards weren't affixed properly meaning that continuous walking to and fro from the bathroom meant continuous creaking from 8am till 9am. There has been a change in staff and the previous helpful and understanding individuals have been replaced (in part) by more solemn staff 'doing the work' but without the caring friendly attitude. This is disappointing.

What an amazing place, with fantastic food and staff who could not of done more to make our stay any more enjoyable! There was a group of six of us who decided to stay at The George and enjoy their Valentines evening meal. This was a very special evening for us, and we were not disappointed, we could not of wished for a better evening and stay over in the hotel, the rooms were spacious and clean, and the beds were very comfortable, the valentines evening meal was to die for, and the staff and service was fantastic, we could not of had a better evening, breakfast in the morning again was fantastic, and served with a smile, we'd all definitely recommend The George as the to go to place in Norwich for a great evening and superb food! We will 100% be going back for another one of their monthly speciality evenings as soon as we can all get together again… Thank you to the management and staff for all you did to make our stay sooo good!

Here to meet friends for the weekend. Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Highly recommend. If you choose the King Suite, please be prepared they have low ceilings so not suitable for tall people. Would return.

The George is conveniently located within 10 minutes walk from the city centre and on a number of bus routes. The full Norfolk breakfast was excellent. Our deluxe room was spacious and well appointed. Two local real ales (Adnams and Moon gazer) are served in the bar.

Great hotel, staff very friendly, good all round experience, this is the third time we have stayed in the last few years and have never been disappointed. I am sure we will be back in 2024, breakfast cooked to order which is always a bonus and nice buffet breakfast too

We've just spent the weekend here for the second time. It's a lovely place to stay. All of the staff are just amazing! Nothing is too much trouble. They were all very friendly and helpful. Leading up to Christmas it was very busy but a lovely atmosphere. Thank you to all your staff for working so hard and always smiling!

Lovely hotel, in a beautiful setting. Room was clean and comfortable; receptionist kindly arranged transport to and from our function, for us; restaurant & bar staff were friendly & polite; breakfast was amazing. Very good value for money!

Had a great stay at The George. The room was well appointed with a very comfy bed. All the staff were friendly and efficient and very hard working. We ate at the bistro twice- the food was delicious and competitively priced (as were the drinks). A 15 minute walk into city center too. Would recommend.

We had a one night stay at this Hotel and it was excellent. This was the first time we have stayed at this Hotel. We were greeted by a very professional and friendly young lady on reception who made us most welcome. We were also so very blessed to have been given an upgrade to such a beautiful room to which we were so extremely grateful, thank you. We went for a pre-dinner drink in the Bar area, it was so relaxing in there and was served by a very friendly young man. We also dined in the Restaurant that evening and were served by the same young gentleman who was our waiter, he was very polite and friendly, our meal was lovely along with a delicious breakfast the following morning. All the staff are so welcoming, nice and friendly and we could not of asked for anything better. We will certainly return to this lovely Hotel and look forward to staying here again very soon.

An excellent hotel with wonderful polite and helpful staff and great food. A great choice of drinks also available at the bar. When bust staff went out of their way to assist us. Also very well located to the city.

Booked for 2 nights stayed for 1 night night. Because Bed very lumpy. Room quirte small. Bath was very high from floor. Breakfast was very basic. Not good if you have some disabilities. Enjoyed dinner

Visited Friday evening with friends. The restaurant had a French night. The mussels were the best I have had! An amazing sauce too. The Crepes Suzette were spot on too. French wines were good and reasonably priced. A solo guitarist played sultry jazz. Thank you to the staff who coped beautifully with a full and buzzing restaurant.

Booked a table for two on the evening of a French cuisine with jazz music. It's very rear that we manage three courses, normally we skip the starter or desert but we went for all three. Absolutely fabulous, fantastic value for money. The staff were wonderful and the whole evening accompanied with great music and wonderful atmosphere. We will definitely be coming back. The staff were really helpful and welcoming. The hotel was very clean and my room helped for a really pleasant stay. The hotel is only 10/15 minutes walk into the centre of Norwich in a really nice area of the City. Would recommend.

We had a lovely one night stay here so that we could go to a local event. The hotel and grounds were lovely. We didn't eat there due to the event we were going to, but the restaurant looked lovely and we did see some other people's meals, which looked good! Our room was lovely and cool on a hot day with air conditioning, massive bed and all very clean. The bathroom had a very powerful shower! The car park was very busy and we managed to get the last space! Overall we thought it a lovely hotel in a good location and would certainly recommend!

I stayed 2 nights as a single traveller on a tourism visit to Norwich and was extremely impressed by all aspects of the stay. My executive single room was a good size, clean and comfortableand with good internet access. I ate in the hotel's restaurant and found the standard of food at least as good as that in higher priced restaurants. All members of staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. There was adequate parking and the hotel is very close to a good bus route into the city centre.

Lovely friendly hotel, with bar and restaurant offering superb choice of food and drinks. Please note, no lift available. Would stay over again, no hesitation. Rooms immaculate with lots of amenities including a coffee machine.

We upgraded to The King George Suite for 60th birthday. It was Beautiful. Huge room and gorgeous bathroom. Balloons left on the bed upon arrival. Coffee machine gave it an extre special touch. Lovely decor. Would recommend this suite and would definitely return. Very quiet. Cooked breakfast was hot and fresh. Continental included in the price. Lovely hotel.

Everything was very good, we had stayed before and were keen to return. However, there was no mention of nor apology for a 2am fire evacuation which turned out to be a false alarm. A quick sorry would have been plenty.

We visited this hotel to book a wake for my friends mum. We instantly felt relaxed and calm when we walked in- beautiful decor and furnishings. We stayed for lunch and the waitress sent over Sophie to talk to us about our needs for the wake whilst we waited for our food. Sophie was amazing- she made my friend feel very at ease as she was quite emotional and worried about booking everything. Sophie made the whole process easy and was kind and attentive. And she was waitressing too, but she did not rush us. Staff like Sophie are a credit to the hotel. We booked the wake and really enjoyed our lunch. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. We will definitely be returning with our families.

Stayed at the George for 2 nights we found the hotel very clean but quite basic but you get what you pay for and it was worth the money. The room was a little small but clean had a good shower and all you needed,the down side for us was the noise. We were in room 130 and you could hear everything even the pull card in the other rooms as well as the noise from the water pressure when the taps were turned on. The walls are quite thin. The people were friendly especially at the reception. The breakfast was very nice and plenty of choice. We didn't use the restaurant but we did use the bar it was a little small but you could sit outside. The location is not to far from the centre but I don't think you could walk it in 15mins more like 20-25 mins. Overall not a bad hotel for the price.

I recently travelled to Norwich on business and booked the George through work so I had no prior knowledge of the hotel. I arrived mid evening after a long journey from Manchester and found the hotel full due to a lot of non residents visiting for food only , i was put at ease by the charming young lady on reception who found me a vacated space very quickly. After a quick and efficient check went to my room to freshen up and then get something to eat. The Restaurant was quite busy but i got a seat straight away and chose a light bite option of soup and whitebait which were both of exceptional quality and served hot. All the staff were vey courteous and smiling all the time although tired i was warmed by the welcome and service i received. Please if you get a chance visit this gem of an hotel and experience customer service and food of the highest quality.

We regularly visit Norwich but this was the first time we had stayed at The George. We were really impressed and as regular visitors to Norwich, The George will now become our hotel of choice on future visits. And ideally located if you are visiting Norwich or the surrounding area.

Lovely hotel. Perfectly placed for the city and visiting University for graduation. Breakfast was fantastic - superb choice and the cooked to order items were perfect. Staff were outstandingly helpful and friendly. Five stars for them ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Only slight issue was we're we towards the back of the hotel near the rear access - which was very noisy as guests returned up the stairs. This continued quite late. If you need quiet - request elsewhere in the hotel.

We picked this hotel as it seemed like a reasonable rate for central Norwich. The room was well appointed with a lovely spacious en-suite. We headed down and decided to eat in the hotel as the weather was awful. The restaurant was very busy with two big tour groups already being served but the staff found us a quiet table and asked if we were happy to wait. Even though they were clearly rushed off their feet they remained attentive, making sure we were brought drinks and menus and in fact, we were served much sooner than they had first told us. The food was excellent both at dinner and breakfast and we had a great nights sleep. What made this hotel stand out was the real warmth and friendliness of every single member of staff, from the assistant manager to the housekeeping staff. They all obviously wanted us to have the best possible stay and did it in such a cheerful and helpful way that the whole place had a lovely ethos.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is a short , pleasant, walk into the city centre. The room was clean, well equipped and had a super comfy bed. The food was really lovely, all cooked fresh to order. We arrived early and was able to park in the car park while we went into Norwich, staff even gave us a map and helped with directions.

We stayed at the George Hotel recently and were very pleased with every aspect of our stay. Our room was very nicely decorated and furnished and was extremely clean. All of the staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. We had dinner and breakfast, both of which were very enjoyable. We will certainly return.

The hotel bar and restaurant staff are lovely. However the room 119 was a terrible nights sleep it's a walk through and then next to fire escape which everyone uses to get in and out of, the walls shake when the door opens and closes. The walls are paper thin so every conversation can be heard. This was supposed to be a special get away for my sons 18th and now face a 5 hour drive with hardly any sleep. The room itself is a box room facing the car park which can also heard in the room.

Great value for money and lovely staff, who are very helpful and happy to assist you with any queries. I don't drive but it is only a 10-15 minute walk into Norwich town centre, which is fine for me. If you don't like to walk there are plenty of buses on the main road.

Mini local staycation for a trip to the theatre and shopping. Great location being only twenty minutes walk from the city centre. Good value for money and great staff. Will stay again and highly recommended.

Stayed for three nights from Christmas Eve until departure on the 27th December. A festive break for myself, my elderly Mother and her brother. On arrival the hotel was warm and welcoming decked out in tasteful Christmas decor and the reception staff could not have been more helpful in arranging a small heater for my mother and all the other requirements she wanted. We each had a small double room on the ground floor, perfectly clean with great bathrooms and oodles of steaming hot water. The food throughout our stay was exceptional both breakfast and the Christmas Fare. Praise also for the mainly young and not always experienced waiting staff who were at all times extremely friendly and helpful as they coped with the Christmas events admirably. The hotel is in a great location 10 mins walk to the centre of Norwich and made a ideal base for a short getaway.. perfect to recharge the batteries. A big thank you to Julie and all her staff . I'd certainly recommend The Gearge to either the business traveler or any individuals wanting a break in the Norwich suburbs.

This is my go to hotel when i have business in Norwich. It is clean and welcoming but what makes to hotel special are the exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are lovely - perfect for a weary traveller and air-con is a bonus for women of a certain age!

This is a good hotel in a good location. There is free parking (limited spaces). The main hotel isn't accessible (no lift) but there is some ground floor separate accommodation types. It's a 15 minute walk into the centre where there is everything you could want in terms of shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. Reception and all staff were friendly from the start. Our room was quite small (standard double) but it had plenty of good storage, a good sized bathroom, super comfy bed, a proper hairdryer and was really comfortable for a couple of nights. We would have only liked more space if staying for longer. The breakfast was excellent. A good range of options and never waited long to be seated or served. You pay a supplement for barista coffee, but it's only £1.50 extra. Otherwise filter coffee / tea / juice is included, as is everything else on the menu / continental buffet. The English breakfast can be broken down into a tailor made breakfast if you don't want such a large breakfast or don't want all of the items. They are more than happy to accommodate requirements. The bar has a good range of options too and reasonably priced for a hotel bar. There is a nice atmosphere in the bar / restaurant area. Quite cosy and chilled with lovely, comfortable seating. If we were coming back to Norwich we would very much consider staying here again.

This was our third visit to the George Hotel and yet again we were not disappointed, from the moment of arrival to departure we were treated very well. Checking in was easy, meal booked for the evening, restaurant first class and the food was of the highest standard freshly prepared. Our room was great, the upgrade was something we were not expecting. All the staff are so friendly and attentive, the room and all the facilities were extremely clean. Easy distance to walk to the city centre, third visit and will certainly go again.

We arrived Christmas Eve to a very warm welcome for our two night stay, having checked in online. We had booked both an executive single and an executive double room, both spotlessly clean and warm. Once settled in we enjoyed a delicious glass of mulled wine, a perfect start to Christmas. All the food throughout was tasty, piping hot and plenty of it. The staff all worked their socks off staying very cheerful, friendly and obliging throughout. We cannot praise all the staff enough, you have a great team. We would like to thank everybody involved for all their hard work, please know it was very much appreciated. Happy New Year to you all.

We went for 3 nights at Christmas (with dog) and we can't praise this hotel enough. The accommodation was fantastic, the food and service were 5 star, over a hectic time as well. Probably the best Christmas dinner out we have had. So impressive. We will be back, Thankyou so much.

I went to the George for my work's Christmas party last week and cannot express how incredible the evening was. I was arguably the only sober one, and was able to fully appreciate the staff that went above and beyond for our rowdy bunch. The young girls did incredibly to stay professional despite the silly comments, breaking of glasses on the dance floor, and increasing noise volume. The gentleman overseeing the event was also fantastic. He made sure that our meals met our dietary requirements and that we were happy with our meals throughout. The food was excellent and the portion sizes perfect. There are no words to describe the gratitude I feel on behalf of our party. Thank you all for your incredible hospitality

Perfectly placed to walk into the city centre. Breakfast was fantastic with a lot of choices! I had supper a few nights and the food was excellent, and the whole team were just perfect accommodating me, very friendly but efficient.

My room was nicely designed, warm and comfortable. The staff could not do enough for me, when I arrived late and cold. They ordered a cab for me for the next day, and let me order a meal for my room and offered to help me carry it to my room.

My partner booked the hotel for my surprise birthday celebrations. The service and canapés were amazing. Super friendly staff that couldn't have done more to make my birthday so special. Our friends who hadn't been there before were very impressed and many who live away from Norwich say they'd being staying there next time. A gem of a hotel in Norwich! We will be back very soon.

My first experience of Best Western was excellent. A basic room, but a refreshing and clean design made the whole hotel very relaxed and comfortable. The service was excellent, very engaging professional staff.

My third time at this hotel- as always excellent room, breakfast and evening meal. staff friendly and a joy to return to! It's easy to find, and the fact I keep returning is evidence of satisfaction of hotel.

From the moment we arrived the reception staff (sally) was very attentive and understanding they let us park at the hotel early so we could walk into Norwich to meet our son Sally said our room wasn't quite ready but if it had she would have gladly let us have it The garden house was perfect lovely place to stay felt like home from home with 2 bedrooms one with bunks and the other on a mezzanine kitchen shower room large lounge with 2 sofas Good smart TVs with Wi-Fi connected 65inch and 48inc in the bedroom Samsungs so connectivity was great Very clean brilliant breakfast pick your own cereals and then order your cooked very good quality food served All the staff from the moment we walked in very brilliant Will gladly go back again and hopefully get the same room it was perfect for our family as our son lives there Thank you George hotel it was a pleasure

Friendly staff, average food. The walls in this hotel are paper thin and I could hear the guest next to me snoring all night. The wall next to my bed also made loud cracking and popping noises due to the central heating or electrics - this was on and off like clockwork all night, I'm staying here for work and have only had a couple of hours sleep ready for my meeting.. You can hear everything in the other rooms. Room wasn't cleaned to standard as there was public hairs on the bath. And an alarm clock went off at 7am which I didn't request to be turned on, obviously I was already awake as I'd been awake all night! Avoid

We stayed 4 nights for e weekend break in Norwich. Everything about the George is good: room clean & comfortable with good facilities, staff, bar/bistro good atmosphere & food, wifi, parking slightly limited, location about 25minutes walk to centre of Norwich Shopping area.

We stayed for just one night at The George Best Western Hotel last Sunday (November) and it was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we parked our car and entered the hotel, we were made to feel so comfortable. Nothing was too much for the staff. The room was lovely, really well equipped and very comfortable. We loved our stay and would have liked to stay longer.

Excellent hotel, really well managed and run, staff professional and friendly with excellent guidance under the F&M manager Ian, who was exceptional and made our stay even more pleasant. The food was delicious and can highly recommend the whitebait but everything we ate was tasty and beautifully cooked, so much so that we didn't bother to eat anywhere else the whole of our stay. Breakfast was also good. You know its good when the locals come and eat there and we met a few. The only point we can make is the bar staff should offer the full wine menu when you first ask what wines are available as I was only offered pinot, chardonnay and sauvignon, which was disappointing, only to find there were more choices including my favourite viognier. So many bars assume everyone likes one of the three main white wines. We will certainly recommend this hotel for a stay.

After travelling 3 and 1/2 hours from Sheffield, it was great to have received such a great reception. Fantastically greeted by Hellen, who gave a much needed lift in spirits, I felt totally at ease with the checking in process. Th hotel room was perfectly sized for my needs, with a modern, calm feel. The restaurant was also good, with a varied menu that perfectly fit my taste buds and was reasonably priced, as well as attentive and efficient staff. A great stay

This hotel is a gem! I had a large, comfortable bed with amenities like coffee/tea bar and biscuits. The bath was nice and big and preferable to the shower (which ran a bit hot and cold). The staff was so friendly and warm. The food was delicious. And everything was very clean. Just a great hotel experience!

Attended this evening after a funeral. We had decided The George Hotel would be the location for the Funeral's Wake. I was aware the situation was delicate somewhat, but was reassured by the calm and warm demeanor of the staff and bar service. The lush interior was furnished comfortably, and was indeed a great choice for such a gathering. Other guests were similarly happy, mellowed by the relaxed afternoon treats and atmosphere. The foods, consisting of Scones filled with cream and sweet jams, Brie cheese and grape nibbles, an assortment of sandwiches, and sausage rolls, portrayed a perfect palate from sweet to savory tastes, delicate and seemingly having the quality to melt in the mouth. Hats off to catering staff. The bar service was also welcoming, serving chilled drinks and friendly smiles and conversation. Had a look around the rest of the hotel, dressed in contemporary style architecture and furniture, with a touch of Mediterranian. I reminded myself I would have to return in the near future for a full meal. Thanks.

Very nice clean hotel, room was very comfortable with good amenities. A nice touch was that you good control your own room temperature which is really helpful for a good night's sleep. Would definitely stay at The George again as very handy for golf break to Dunston Hall.

A large group of us stayed for eight nights and were very happy with all aspects of the hotel. The staff are all very pleasant, helpful and very good at their various jobs. For 8 nights we were served delicious, well presented 3-course dinners, without any courses being repeated. We were there on the day of the late Queen's funeral, and they kindly set up a large screen in the function room so that the group could watch the funeral together. They also made us a delicious finger buffet for lunch that day.

This was not the original hotel we booked but decided to here the last minute,So glad we did staff are very friendly and accomidating they all work very hard ,We found Josh to be very friendly and excellent customer service skills, but also we found out the General Manager Ian had met us 5 years ago at a hotel we stayed at before and we had a lovely chat with him he took the time to speak to us but looking on he is a very good managerand that is why his staff are good. The place is spotless and clean also.Food good too. We had a lovely quite room what we asked for, so we will be back definitely in the future.Thank You

Took a group of 42 people on a visit to Norfolk, based at The George in Norwich. Couldn't have been a better experience - they kept everyone happy. We were in a separate room so we didn't interfere with other residents enjoyment. Breakfasts were delicious and they were able to serve us quickly so everyone was on the coach in time - and dinner every night was again brilliantly organised and the Chef provided us with a wonderful menu each night. Thank you to all the team.

Just spent a weekend at The George Hotel for a family gathering. The hotel is easily accessible on the outskirts of Norwich which was great for us travelling from all parts of the country. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the rooms were fresh and comfortable. The dinner which the hotel catered was excellent and very good value, and the breakfast very good indeed. What I was most impressed by were the staff - every one was pleasant, friendly and helpful - as Granny chasing a toddler I came across staff in all sorts of places and they were delightful - and clearly working very hard. Thank you all for a very enjoyable stay.

We stayed here as part of a group and had really good service. The staff are so friendly and helpful - a great team. The room, although not large, was clean, comfortable and quiet, and we had everything we needed - toiletries, tea/coffee etc. The service in the bar and restaurant was excellent and we were always served with a smile. It's in a good location and we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Fantastic hotel. Booked on Booking.com. Checked in online before arrival. Managed to park easily in one of the disabled bays outside the front which helped my partner a lot as she suffers with mobility issues. Friendly reception staff on check-in and check-out. Clean, modern room - tea, coffee etc and hairdryer provided. Lovely cooked / continental breakfast in the morning and great service. Nice bar area and great location. Have friends in Norwich so will book again when visiting.

A secret gem, hotel is very clean and staff are very friendly, we had a lovely stay and would love to come back again Room had great choice of toiletries and a lovely choice of hot drinks. Room was absolutely spotless and well maintained and relaxing

Family trip to see friends normally stay in premier inn glad it was not available as wouldn't go back now our preference hotel. with lovely staff great food friendly service throughout our stay vacation.

The George lived up to the standards experienced on our previous visit in 2020. The room was excellent and well serviced. All of the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful throughout. We ate breakfast and dinner in the hotel for all three nights and couldn't fault the food. It was well presented and cooked to our satisfaction. Car parking can be difficult if there is a function at the hotel but we always found a space. The location is just off the A11 entering the city, it's only a 15-20 minute walk into the centre.

I want to like The George more than I actually do. It's been very convenient for several visits to Norwich (it's off Newmarket Road, which is a main artery into the city from the A11, but it's in a quite residential area), the staff are friendly, and the food is pretty good. They've also refreshed the front of house quite effectively. However, the room I got was small, quite basic, with an antique TV and wobbly wifi. It wasn't a problem, but I would have expected a bit more. I'm guessing there are better rooms and I just got the short straw because hordes of parents were in town for graduation week

It's a very decent hotel, plenty of character, good-sized car park and a nice shaded outdoor bar/restaurant area. The room was great, king size bed, walk-in shower, nicely decorated in muted shades. I was basically a fan of everything except the food - breakfast eggs benedict weren't great and the sausage and mash in the evening was pretty poor. Plus they failed to reserve the table we requested, though they did rejig things to accommodate us on a similar table when we complained.

Another great weekend at The George - Ian and his staff excelled again over the last two days - cannot wait to come back in November. Great accommodation, friendly and efficient staff, excellent food - definitely home from home. The Nivens

We only stayed overnight which was a shame as the hotel had a very welcoming feel due to the very friendly and helpful staff, the beautiful layout and decor and the comfort of the rooms, especially the beds and pillows which were so comfortable.

We were upgraded on arrival to the Garden House which comprises a lounge, shower room, kitchen facilities and small bedroom with bunk beds on the ground floor with a large bedroom upstairs. The Garden House also benefits from a private outdoor seating area. It was great to have the extra space and not to have any noise from adjacent rooms or people walking past. We didn't eat at the hotel in the evenings opting instead to dine in the city (an easy 20 minute stroll) but the breakfast was good quality and all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The car parking is limited but we were fortunate enough to arrive at times when there were still spaces available.

Enjoyed a two night stay at the George Hotel. We had a family room, small but clean and tidy. Good shower and clean bathroom. Room had air com which was a bonus. Good choice of breakfasts available. The Full english was good, could have been better but on the whole very acceptable. All staff at the hotel were friendly and accommodating. Very good location for walking into Norwich.

A lovely hotel, ample parking, beautiful well serviced rooms ours had air conditioning, the staff go over & aboard with any request, well stocked bar & a good variety of food & breakfast options. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Wonderful hotel. All the staff were friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We had to report that the toilet seat in our bathroom was loose and this was promptly rectified on the day we reported the problem. We could not have wished for a nicer hotel. It more than made up for the fact we had not had a holiday for four years.

We stayed for one night and really enjoyed our stay. Room was compact but with enough room. Comfy bed and pillows and decent enough shower. The service was excellent with nothing too much trouble and always with a smile. We had lunch and breakfast here and the food was good. I would stay here again and recommend it.

We booked on the day for an afternoon tea following a graduation nearby at UEA. The lady who took the booking couldn't promise a formal tea but said there were sandwiches and cake, so given the notice. I was very happy with that. The ceremony over ran so I rang and said we would be about 3/4 hour late. Arrived and was whisked through to a tale set for three - orders for drinks taken immediately and within 10 mins two tiered afternoon tea platters emerged with delicious fresh sandwiches, cake and little lemon possets. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Thank you so much for making our day special.

Visited with a group of 26 for 3 nights on a dinner bed and breakfast basis. The rooms were nicely decorated, comfortable and clean, the food both at dinner and breakfast was superb. The icing on the cake were the staff who without exception were amazing, nothing too much trouble and very friendly and efficient. The hotel location was good and I would happily recommend it for groups and individuals and would have no hesitation returning as a couple.

Very nice, clean hotel. Looks newly refurbished. Breakfast was very disappointing. Poached Eggs had hard yolks so had to be sent back.Declined a Bagel instead of toast but only came with the Vegan option so couldn't have.

I stayed at the George for 3 nights for a work trip in an executive single room. The room was a bit on the small side, but was probably cozy enough for a solo traveller. Everything seemed very clean and well presented, until I saw the linen in my room. The bedsheet was covered in small strands of black hair. This was not pleasant to find at all, and made me very concerned that the bedsheets had not been changed between the departure of guests. The reception team were quick to apologise and change the sheets, but then the next day another problem arose when I was given a stained bath towel. This overall made me feel quite uncomfortable and disappointed in the standard of hygiene maintained with the linen used at the hotel. Again, the receptionist apologised and assured me that a complaint would be raised with the laundry company - I hope this does result in some action! It was disappointing that this happened, as otherwise the team were helpful and friendly (especially on day 2 when I was unexpectedly unwell and needed a meal sent up to my room). The hotel has a vibrant, homely feel to it and is very conveniently located for exploring Norwich and getting on the road to travelling to other parts of Norfolk. I hope the hotel will pay more attention to detail on cleanliness going forward, as otherwise I can't say sadly that I would feel sufficient confidence to stay again.

stayed last july for one night. got a parking space in the hotel car park. good location. enjoyed the walk to and from city centre. quick check in and friendly welcome from reception staff. room was fairly small and not much of a view but i was happy with everything. it's a nice hotel. was having a nice sleep when the fire alarm went off at about 3am. all guests including myself went to the car park. Heavens above, it was loud. a male member of staff announced ,it could be the kitchen, it does get very hot in there' so what happens on a hot day when food is being cooked? it doesn't get hot in there at 3 in the morning, mate. silly thing to say. went back to room and got back to sleep. had a little bit of breakfast in the morning. was ok. communication a bit non existent in restaurant area. i checked out. again the reception staff were friendly. i felt that something like 'sorry about the fire alarm last night, i hope it didn't cause you too much of a problem' was in order but there was none of it. I encountered at least 4 members of staff that morning. or maybe a note under the door or a text once people had checked out. Of course i realise it may not have been the fault of any member of staff and could possibly have been some fool smoking in the room or something. it could have been many things but to me it would have been professional and a good example of customer care to address it somehow. would i stay here again? well, it wasn't the perfect overnight stay but to be honest, yes I would if they'd have me. It's a good hotel.

We have been staying at hotels in Norwich regularly for the past 7 years. This one is currently the best we have found, the receptionists are extremely helpful, the staff serving food and behind the bar are polite and welcoming. The rooms are spotlessly clean and the breakfasts excellent.

Advance dinner booking for a family of 9, on a Friday evening. The restaurant part was not busy, however, the bar area was reasonably busy. We ordered a variety of meals with the most popular being sausage and mash. I had the renowned fish and chips (regular size) Mind this comes in two sizes, the normal and reduced portion size. I chose normal size. My partner had the equally acclaimed George burger. All meals were served on time, well presented and tasted really good. The price was reasonable too. The waiters were courteous and helpful. I would definitely visit this place again.

Stayed one night. Very warm welcome from the start. The receptionist was friendly and very helpful. The room was a little on the small side (room 122) but clean and with a comfortable bed. I think the main positive point for me was the breakfast. Very well cooked with excellent ingredients with delicious coffee and orange juice. Again the staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend.

We always choose either of the Best Western Hotels in Norwich and we always have a very pleasant time. The George has a good restaurant and has a lunch menu too. The staff have always been very friendly and helpful.

This is a nice little hotel; very unexpected providing excellent service, nicely decorated and a warm welcome on arrival. The George is very good value for money. In a very quiet but accessible location. A must stay!

My husband and I recently stayed for one night at the George. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. The room was a bit small but okay for one night. A few things needs attention in the room (new towels, new hairdryer, new net curtain and bathroom window needs painting). The bar is good for a drink in the evening. The cooked breakfast was vey good but would have liked fresh fruit rather than tinned fruit. The hotel is a ten to fifteen minute walk to the shopping area but is a safe walk.

When we arrived we had a room outside in the car park which stank of dogs, we asked to move the staff were very obliging and found us a small but cosy room, it's a nice location, 15 min walk into town, food is good, staff were friendly and great, there was some strange smells emanating around the place, but for a 3 star a nice place the bar and breakfast area is nice and the place is very clean, I would stay again but I would check what room I had first

Very modern and clean hotel. We went to Norwich for my brothers 50th birthday and stayed here. They let me put balloons and a sign in his room prior to them arriving. It is within 10mins walk from the centre of town and the staff are very accommodating and friendly.

We arranged a Secret Birthday party for my 80-year-old dad. Not living in Norwich i'm having a party of 14 , from the first contact in arranging the rooms the meal and the function room was nothing short of exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. Special mention for Alistair the restaurant manager who looked after us for the whole day and made it look easy.

We Stayed for one night whilst on a trip to explore Norwich. The hotel is in a good location - just a short drive or 20 minute walk into the middle of Norwich. The hotel was very clean and tidy and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we have a great stay.

better than the usual chain hotels - I'm away on business most weeks so thought I'd give this independently-run hotel a go and am really pleased that I dd. The staff (lots of them) were excellent. Food - evening and breakfast - were good quality in nice relaxed surroundings. Must have been refurbished a couple of years ago and has a nice relaxed modern vibe. Definitely stay again next time I am in Norwich.

We booked to go to the theatre and catch up with family. Wanted something fairly central, tick! Not too big, tick. The George Hotel is JUST off the main Newmarket Road close to the city centre. You wouldn't guess how central from it's location. It's a 10 minute walk to the city. The hotel is small and welcoming. The staff were lovely. Our room was spacious and quiet and everything was clean and worked. We used the bar and had breakfast and lunch there. It's clearly a popular place with locals as there is still a bit of a buzz about it with non-residents popping in for food or a coffee. There is car parking which is definitely a bonus. The food was superb. Fresh and well present. Good service. We will definitely stay again if we're out that way as it tick, tick, ticked all our boxes!

The most lovely stay we had, staff hotel restaurant all wonderful, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left every one was a pleasure, the room was lovely clean and spacious and any service we required was great nothing was too much for anyone.

The staff are very friendly and approachable. The restaurant has a fabulous selection of food which is of a very high standard and the genuinely could not do more for you. Everyone knows you by name and remembers what your idiosyncrasies. Lovely hotel that is well appointed and yet still has a family feel to it.

We have two elderly and infirm relatives we care for. A 91st birthday prompted a lunchtime reservation as easy access and parking appealed. From the moment we walked in we were spoilt rotten. Attentive and charming service and everyone we met from the hotel and restaurant were lovely to us. Spotlessly clean and great facilities for the wheelchair user.. Food was freshly cooked to order and was “proper food cooked properly” to quote my elderly mother. Summed up by her saying as we regretfully left “I haven't been so well attended to since my cruise on p and o..,,,”. Many many thanks to everyone..l

I stay at the George norwich when I come to norwich to shop , eat out, and see friends. It's the perfect location for me. The staff are lovely, the rooms are clean and fresh, the bar is excellent as is the food. Cannot rate this hotel highly enough!

I've stayed at many hotels. This hotel is a hidden gem. The rooms are lovely (I stayed in the Suite), warm, comfortable, clean and spacious The food and bar, exceptional. Every meal was delicious and the portions are very generous. From the hotel manager, receptionist, bar staff to the restaurant staff - I can't fault it. It was a very very pleasant stay. I stayed initially for business then my family joined me a few days later. I'd like to add that the wifi is free and it is excellent. I would say it's as good as my broadband at home. No disconnects or limits on how long you stay connected.

I stayed here with my sister for a long weekend. Hotel was so welcoming and ALL the staff were brilliant, so friendly and hardworking. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was very well cooked and used good ingredients. Bistro and bar was warm and cozy. Our room was quite small but didn't affect our stay and enjoyment of the break. Hope to return.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights over Christmas while visiting family, and had a thoroughly enjoyable break. The room was comfortable, and had everything that I needed, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety on offer - full English, continental, cereals, yoghurts and even haddock. I stayed in room 18 on the ground floor, which was nice and quiet, away from the main hub of the hotel, though it was only a short walk to the bar and restaurant, and the staff were always on hand at reception to help. I will definitely stay here again on a future trip to Norwich.

This was an exclusive Christmas works party. The management went out of their way to ensure we were safe. The food was excellent, plenty of choice and very hot. Both waiting staff and Bar staff were fantastic. Disco catered for everyone's choice. We had a great evening and will be back again in 2022, if not before ! Perfect hotel with friendly staff. One member of staff stood out above all the others and that was little Michelle. She has a lovely personality ,very very popular with the customers and the male staff. She has great customer service skills and is very hard working from what I have seen she never stood still she is a credit to the hotel so if u go get served by the lovely michelle you won't be disappointed. Pretty name for a pretty girl. The food was delicious and the rooms spotless. Couldn't fault anything.

We enjoyed a lovely lunch in the function suite at the hotel (we were a party of 42) and the staff, we're friendly and helpful, the service was very prompt and the food was excellent. A very clean hotel.

A lovely get away hidden off the main road full of surprises. Surprise one - the room was spacious, not only could I swing a cat, I could of comfortably brought along my 22 chickens and 2 goats. Surprise 2 - The lighting in the bathroom was fantastic, IF you've recently coloured your hair you can bask in all the glory, if you are awaiting a root touch up, probably enter wearing a hat, or two. Surprise 3 - the staff were super friendly, standard behaviour you may say, but have you ever had a bar man superhero? One that turns into a super TV electrician whilst spitting bars at you faster than Eminem after too many cool aids? Alistair was the most wonderful and fun help, happy, even when taken from his normal environment and placed in a room with two shopped out women who were eager to watch the TV but also eager to know his life story? Alistair is your man, his all round skills from pouring the perfect Diet Coke to fixing the signal to allow festive movies to flow and then providing room service with a musical tone, bravo, second to none! Surprise 4 - a easy little walk into town 1km to be precise as my watch informed me every time my heart rate peaked and reminded me how unfit I am. Along with the large comfortable bed, the borders biscuits and delicious tea and coffee, this little nook is one to crawl into and sleep happy

My family and I stayed on 26/11/2021 … daughter, Sister, husband and parents… 2nd time for me, all of us were extremely happy during our stay, the service we received were A1* … top quality food, I can't pick out 1 staff that deserved praise as they all deserved it, so friendly and make you feel special .. this is a must place to stay. The hotel is located a short walk from town set back from the main road. We were in the bungalow at the back so there was no traffic noise. Parking is limited especially if the restaurant is busy but we managed ok. The accessible accommodation was fine for my wheelchair, a good wet room and a comfortable bed. There were enough sockets that I could plug my chair in to charge. Breakfast was a little chaotic, but it was well worth it. Great breakfast and evening meal was very good. The staff are very friendly and really make this hotel.

After a Excellent day out tour to the Thursford spectacular our coach load of fifty plus arrived at the George hotel where we were greeted by a helpful hotel crew, The waiting staff delivered our seasonal meal piping hot and well presented with good portions Can not fault this venue, Will certainly visit again in the not to distant future.

On arrival had to ask staff to change bedding as looked used and unclean . Room / bathroom dirty and in need of attention. Breakfast on first day cold , when it return was microwaved and dry . Second breakfast unsatisfactory yet again this time overcooked ( could hear many other guests complaining) . The serving staff however were excellent felt sorry for them as what could they do !!! With a bit of attention could be an excellent stay .

Great location. Staff friendly, approachable and helpful. Room comfortable and ground floor cottage ideal for our small dog. Food was very good, both evening meal and breakfast. Would definitely stay again if visit Norwich another time.

My daughter and I stayed one night at The George having attended the open day at University of East Anglia. We loved the area and the close proximity to town. Although we didn't eat the restaurant, when we returned from dinner it was full of happy jolly people and there was a great atmosphere in the bar.

Stayed here last week, on a night away with business. The hotel makes a great stopover with parking and only a short walk from the city centre. Check in was really friendly and super efficient, and the room was on the small side but perfectly adequate and clean. The doors to each room are a little tired looking and could really up the feeling if quality if they were renewed with new locks and handles. Breakfast was freshly cooked and served quickly, and was delicious!

If you get the chance to stay - grab it and experience this wonderful team who offer great service and attention to detail. Great room and leisure facilities. Highly recommended for business or pleaseure.

The hotel is a little way out of town (though that is obvious, of course, from looking at a map!). It is in a very nice area though. Everything about the hotel and the service was excellent. The breakfast was very good indeed and the decor nice. It is not intended to be a luxury hotel, but I would way that it is one of the best in its class and certainly one of the best Best Westerns I have stayed in for a while.

.Great beds .Great food Great service. The George Hotel is a really lovely hotel. and because the staff appear to enjoy being at work there is a lot of warmth and energy about this place. We ate in the bistro each evening of our stay as the food was well presented and reasonably priced.

Our History Society had our trip here cancelled due due to Covid. The staff were excellent and helpful throughout and the Hotel very convenient and well up to our expectations. The Bar had my favourite beer and the glasses. What more can you ask for? Parking was available and were able to park throughout our stay. We didn't do Norwich justice in 2 days and will visit again and will book here.

After an issue with another hotel we were left without accommodation whilst on a weekend in Norwich. We called the George hotel early on the Saturday morning seeing if they had any availability for that night. The staff could not have done enough for us. They were kind polite helpful and sympathetic of the dilemma we were in. Hannah on reception was especially helpful doing everything she could to have a room available as early as possible so that we were able to freshen up. Rooms were of a high standard and very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was also excellent A great team of staff and a beautiful hotel. Can't fault it.

What a great surprise finding this excellently run hotel was. We booked a three day stay to fit in a business meeting but the stay made us feel like it was a holiday. The bistro food including breakfast was fantastic, a large varied menu meant we didn't have any qualms about eating there each night. The room was comfortable and very clean. The staff were amazing, a real asset to the hotel. From the reception staff to the restaurant staff and the cleaning staff, we were always greeted with a smile, conversation and help. This was a real find and I'm sure we will be back. Pat Kent

Perfect hotel stay, we booked for a night stay at this hotel as it had onsite parking and its 10'mins walk into centre , shops, bars and resturants. We was served on the desk by a lady called Helen she was very friendly and welcoming, the room was nice and cosy with a/c, tea coffee hot choc. Clean and tidy. Room 115 near the stairs door can be annoying as when other guests are waking up in the morning it makes a loud noise that does wake you up, so i would recommend the hotel invest in wd40 for that, that would be the only annoyance from the stay we had. Would stay again in future

Great stay in the well-appointed room which was perfectly clean and comfortable. Check-in was smooth with Helen giving the perfect greeting. I was lucky enough to be upgraded to a better room which helped make my stay extra special.

Food excellent, staff lovely but over an hour from ordering to food delivery! I had my baby who was very hungry and over an hour away from when we had intended her eat... still a little cross about it.

We stayed here for three nights on a mid week break from the 23rd Sep' we was going to eat out every night but the food here was very good as well as the tasteful deco of the restaurant. So there was no need to venture out. ln a nutshell, lovely hotel but most importantly great staff!

The George Hotel (a Best Western) is very good. The building is old (and attractive) , and the decor is modern and rooms well appointed. The management is really excellent, with a family feel to everything. Very good communication in advance, and on site. Good chef, and nice choice at all times. And the towels are generous. Air conditoning except in the single rooms. A short walk into the City, or buses stop more or less just outside.

Wasn't bad but could have been better. Bags left in care of staff in the morning were not stored securely or taken to my room as advised Standard of room was good but would have been better if I had the room that I booked. Defective air con unfortunately coinciding with a very hot day! Breakfast was good

Had a one-night stay at the George on a recent cycling trip. My room was a bit of a step back in time, both decor and function wise, but the meal I had in the bar was excellent and the staff were very helpful and friendly - so overall a good stay for my first visit to Swaffham.

Rooms are light and clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. Wifi generally works well. Only drawback is that the number of spaces in the car park is quite limited, probably enough room for 95% of people staying at the hotel.

Firstly we use this hotel as a bar and restaurant because we live nearby and enjoy their food and conviviality. We booked our recent wedding reception in the Newmarket room which the staff decorated to our specifications and their attention to detail was exemplary. The whole day and evening which incuded 2 buffet style meals was a complete success, the staff as always were attentive and made it feel like nothing was a problem also and very importantly chatted with our guests ensuring everyone was enjoying the day. Some of our party also stayed overnight as did we, and all commented on the cleanliness and decoration of their rooms. This is a gem of a place wether you just want to have a drink and a meal or stay over, you will not be disappointed.

I stay at Best Western hotels all the time and not many have the well maintained decor of the George. It was so clean and bright and fresh looking. I deliberately chose the smallest cheapest room, but it was still very comfortable and the bathroom was bigger than mine at home.

My partner and I stayed at The George Hotel for a romantic break away. The hotel is located just outside the city centre, with parking too. The staff during our stay were lovely and we couldn't fault them. However, I booked ‘an executive room' as we wanted a little luxury, but we were very underwhelmed by the room. The ‘queen bed' it boasted, was actually 2 single beds pushed together. It was very small, with none of the ‘extras' it promised, such as bottled water/ hair dryer and toothpaste etc. The toilet holder was hanging off and the windows were very dirty. However the bedding and towels were all clean and it was very peaceful there, with blacked out curtains. The passion fruit martinis in the bar were amazing and the cooked breakfast was hot and tasty. A lovely hotel, just didn't feel like we got value for money.

Friendly, well run hotel. Staff super friendly and welcoming. I travelled with my elderly mum and emailed ahead to ask for a ground floor room - hotel responded immediately and accommodated my request.

The 3-day celebration was fantastic. The hotel management team organised the main event. Julie, Ian and Alistair did a wonderful job to make everything go smoothly. Nothing was too much trouble. The kitchen and waiting staff did a fantastic job throughout the weekend providing excellent food on time and when required. All the staff were helpful and flexible. The weekend was a great success some friends enjoyed sightseeing and shopping in Norwich others visited Sheringham and went on a Broads boat trip the George is in a great location. The venue proved to be excellent. The event was held in the suitably decorated Newmarket Suite which was perfect for our 40 guests with space for music and dancing after. The out-door seating area was perfect for meeting and greeting our friends as they arrived or returned from their adventures. The hotel facilities including the bedrooms were clean well maintained and felt Covid safe. There was a temperature check on arrival and hand sanitisers throughout.

The George is a typical Best Western hotel. It's sensibly priced, well located, has (very) friendly staff and will provide exactly what you want in terms of a decent clean room etc. They don't have a pool, gym or spa, or the prices to match those facilities. Nice room, comfortable bed, slightly old fashioned bathroom (over bath shower for example). Hotel is surrounded by other buildings and their car park, thus don't expect country views from your room. Nice breakfast, maybe needing some more fresh fruit options and some more bran type cereals. The overwhelming impression we left with was how friendly and helpful all the staff were. An example is car parking, which is limited due to the hotels location. One evening when we had problems parking the person on reception could not have done more to find us a space, or arrange “double parking” etc.

We booked for my partners birthday as a relaxing hotel stay and we have a love for huge bath tubs as we fell in love with the huge one at Sprowston Manor but it wasn't great... I had messaged before if they could do anything special for my partner and they said they could do a banner and balloons which I was really happy about. When we arrived we were checked in and given directions to our room which was up a very narrow stairway to what was like the loft of the building. The views weren't great as all you could see was the car park and the roofs. We loved the room and it was very clean except for the TV remote! Straight away we went to the bathroom and absolutely fell in love with the bath (not as big as Sprowston Manor) I ran a bath straight away! Unfortunately when we got in I noticed there was a layer of someone else's bath scum around the sides and some shaved hair!! It had a replacement plug that was a rubber base that you pop over the top so if you knocked it (we did many times) it starts to drain so for the money we paid for the suite you would expect a proper plug in the bath! We chilled for a bit and got ready for dinner at 6pm, it was very quiet and only had a few people eating, the servers were really helpful but the food was very underwhelming! It was what you would find at a wetherspoons but didn't taste as good! They gave my partner a free dessert as it was his birthday which was absolutely lovely! We then went back to our room for a film and slept. At 2am the fire alarm went off for a slight second which freaked us out and struggled to get back to sleep straight away. We went down for breakfast at 9am and it was underwhelming again if not worse than the evening food. The had a selection of continental food and a hot breakfast which was definitely not worth the money if you hadn't included it in the hotel price. Check out was easy and we left just feeling underwhelmed with the whole experience. It was relaxing but not amazing.. Also we couldn't connect to the WiFi from our room. Unfortunately we won't be back as we prefer Sprowston Manor.

We had three nights at The George Hotel and really enjoyed our stay. We had a small issue at the beginning, but the matter was resolved very efficiently by Julie, the General Manager. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they were courteous, helpful and always smiling. The service in the hotel is excellent, well done everyone. Finally, a special mention for Sally on reception who was an absolute star.

We recently arranged a wake at this hotel and everything from the function room, the food, efficiency and friendliness of the staff was utterly outstanding. It was difficult to estimate numbers and some extra chairs and food had to be found at short notice, but it was all accomplished with great ease and efficiency, and we couldn't believe how quickly it was arranged. It was impressive and despite the sadness of the occasion, we all left feeling very uplifted due to the relaxed feeling generated by the staff. Special mention must go to General Manager, Julie Ashworth, who oversaw everything from day one, and who left no stone unturned to ensure that this very important day ran like clockwork. It certainly did and we cannot thank her and her staff enough. We thoroughly recommend this hotel if you have any kind of upcoming function to arrange, they will not let you down.

From beginning to end, the whole experience at, The George, has been thoroughly enjoyable. Jodie, on Reception has gone above and beyond, since telephoning her to book three rooms and from receiving my first, (of many!) emails. Nothing has been too much trouble, she has always been most helpful and her manner is very friendly and polite! All the staff, in fact were lovely We brought my mother back to Norwich where she was born for a birthday weekend with family. She was celebrating her 82nd birthday!! Jodie and colleagues, even added candles and a sparkler to the cake and brought it through singing Happy Birthday to her, much to her surprise! All the staff, including the two gents who served us at breakfast and supper were friendly and helpful. The food was fresh, hot and very tasty and indeed reasonably priced too. Our rooms were on the small side but v clean and v comfortable with coffee/tea making facilities. The decor throughout the Hotel is tastefully done and there were options on where to sit too. Perfect location, outside parking is limited but, I had a spot all weekend. Smallish Hotel with a good atmosphere. We will definitely be back whenever we are in the area! Thank you.

A lovely hotel on the outskirts of Norwich- I booked in on a last minute business trip. Arrived early morning yet the staff were pleasant and great to deal with. Lovely room with all the amenities I needed. Had a late breakfast in a well presented dinning room with the option of sitting externally. Hearty breakfast served well in current conditions. It was pleading to see so many people staying over yet it never felt crowded. Next time I am staying in the area this will be my first choice.

Lovely small hotel. When travelling with your pet they have 4 small cottages & allow your pet into the bar area. Free carpark however on a first come basis. Very helpful staff, small but clean rooms. Good choice of breakfast & evening meal. Short walk or bus service to town centre.

A really lovely hotel. Nicely refurbished and clean comfortable rooms. The staff were welcoming and friendly and made you feel welcome. Tasty food at reasonable prices. The place is close to Norwich City centre. Lots of parking. Comfortable bedrooms with en suite and coffee and tea making facilities.

Arrived late approx 18:30 to find the car park full, the lovely receptionist came out into the car park and said she would move her car for me to park which was over and beyond. Room is a tad small but has everything you need, bathroom a little dated but fine. Evening meal was great high standard with lots of choice.

Arrival at room 142 - two single beds pushed together with a groove in the middle, room 142 joins room 141 with a shared locked door where you can hear everything everyone is doing nextdoor. No water bottles provided in the room and no in-room ironing facilities (bearing in mind water and in room ironing facilities are advertised specifically on the website for an executive double room). as a platinum member with best western having stayed 3-4 month in best western hotels on business, this was unfortunately below par. However, the ground, the hotel and the decor of the hotel is lovely and staff are very accommodating to your requests. I would stay again however would request not to have room 142 unless you are a family wishing to share rooms.

From arrival to departure, I was greeted and helped throughout my stay. The restaurant and bar staff are one in a million. This was my first time at the hotel, but I will be booking my next business trip here again. I won't stay anywhere else. If there was no parking, they made a plan for you, always accommodating! Lovely hotel. Staff v friendly. Our room (137) was beautiful. The food at the restaurant was 1st class. The staff throughout the hotel are wonderful and cannot do enough to help. I even managed to get decaff tea there which we have struggled with during our 2 week travels. Would definitely stay again.

The hotel was very clean and above expectations, from booking in the staff were very polite and helpful, the room was clean and very comfortable, we had dinner the first night and was excellent, the bar manager(Alistar) was a pleasure, he has a energy that bounces off the guests and makes a pleasurable atmosphere. We'll definitely be back to this hotel thankyou and your staff

A lovely hotel with a really nice feel to it when you pull into the car park. The welcome received was very friendly and all COVID restrictions fully explained. Our room was not the biggest (really not a problem) but it was spotlessly clean and very well appointed for our stay. It was nice to have an air conditioned room on a warm stuffy day. We had a few drinks on the terrace and all staff were lovely and chatty if you chose to be that way. We were amazed when we took a stroll into Norwich city centre and it only took us approximately 10 minutes, a very central location. Our only gripe would be the breakfast! I had a lovely hot cooked breakfast, but my partner had the continental breakfast, the fresh fruit appeared and tasted like it was tinned and the croissants were certainly not fresh as they had a stale feel and taste to them. Such a shame as the rest of the stay was amazing.

Lovely room, went to the bar for after dinner drinks. Staff very knowledgeable about drinks menu and catered to our tastes. highly recommended Ash (made our night) will deffinatly come again! Highly recommended the brownies!!

Booking was easy , check in was straight forward. And the room was fine . The Covid security was well enforced, and efficient. The location of the hotel for us was fine , with a ten minute walk into Norwich city . The hotel was quiet and relaxed, with a good bar and restaurant.

Having managed to get the last room available at this hotel, I was more than pleasantly surprised with my one night stay at the George. i would recommend this hotel to anyone. Yes it's a few pound more than premier or travel lodge, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for, and i'd rather pay a little more for a quality experience. I will go again.

Walking distance to town- about 10 to 15 minutes or a £5.80 ish taxi ride. Room was clean, bed was comfortable, air con/heating, powerful shower and a good breakfast in the morning. We paid approx £150 for a double room with breakfast.

Everything from booking, making special arrangements for husband after hip surgery & the actual stay has been an enjoyable experience. The receptionists, breakfast staff and restaurant staff in the evening made our stay a real pleasure. Lovely cheerful staff who clearly enjoy their job regardless of masks, the ending of the pandemic. Nothing was too much trouble. Brilliant short vacation!

Normally we stay at the Annersley House just down the road but this hotel, only an extra 2 minutes from town is worth the extra walk. Breakfasts were excellent, staff were welcoming , friendly and attentive.

What a hidden Gem of a Hotel , Cannot rave about this hotel enough, The staff go above and beyond to accommodate every little request. Such a lovely hotel with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Absolutely love this place ❤️ It obviously has many regulars as everyone is so friendly and chatty to each other. Food is always exceptional, and the hotel offers a lovely Sunday Lunch too. A superb selection of all wines and drinks to suit everyone. Feels very safe within the Covid restrictions, 5 Stars all the way ⭐️

Wasn't sure what to expect from this hotel. The website makes it look cute and boutique, but on site it feels very much like a motel, with rooms spread around a car park. If all you care about it the room and friendly service, then this scores well. However, it isn't somewhere I would particularly want to stay for more than one night, or for anything other than a functional reason. My room was very attractive and modern, however you could not have the curtains/blinds open without having someone look into the room from the car park. Also, it was extremely cold. I'd imagine that they are saving on heating bills and spreading people around the rooms during COVID. But I would guess the room temperature on arrival was 16c.

Beautifully decorated, really comfortable, outstanding food and the best team of people I've ever encountered. The George went straight to number one in our top places to stay in Norwich, and in fact the UK.

Visited Norwich to celebrate my wife's birthday. Very helpful and attentive staff . Covid measures excellent, ( was little concerned that the machine indicated several times that I had low temperature!) Room was comfortable , powerful shower in the bathroom. Breakfast . cooked was excellent, the best. Dinner was not adventurous but really well cooked and could not be faulted. ALL the staff were excellent. friendly. helpful and professional. Will definitely stay again.

A very pleasant experience - all staff were extremely helpful and polite. The hotel felt very COVID safe and their COVID policies supported this. The room was very spacious with great decor - the bed was huge and very comfortable. Will definitely revisit!

My husband and I were visiting Norwich and chose The George Hotel to stay in. We arrived on the Friday and our room was charming. However the real reason this Hotel is so special, is the staff. The people who work for the Hotel should be so proud of themselves, you have made our stay so memorable. We had a couple of evenings just sitting in the bar before bed and the staff, even though they had lots to do, chatted and joked with us. Alistair, Ash, Donna and Sally were so funny together, they clearly have a lovely working relationship that made us giggle along with them. The lovely smiling welcome girls and breakfast waiting staff literally couldn't do enough for us. Our breakfast was delicious, despite the fact that the staff have so much more to do at the moment. Now, I know that things have to be done a bit differently today and it's one of the reasons deciding to go away is tricky, but this Hotel has made such efforts to make everyone feel as safe as they can, without losing the comfort and atmosphere. Such a difficult thing to accomplish, so credit where it is due, I tip my hat to you and say "Bravo, you have done a wonderful job, keep up the hard work and David and I very much look forward to returning ".

Great short break in Norwich. 20minute walk to centre. Suitable covid control in place, plenty of hand sanitiser and one way system in place. Stayed in a twin room with my daughter, lots of hot water bath and shower. Had a great time.

I had a very enjoyable stay here. The food was almost all home cooked. I had dinner at the hotel one evening and the chicken curry was better than I've had at any british indian restaurant. The evening restaurant staff were very friendly and professional. The pillows were all very hard, but I called reception and a lovely soft one was brought to me within minutes. The ability to access my Netflix account was a nice touch. WiFi didn't work in the room. The shower controls were hard to use with wet hands and the bathroom was very small, but it was a single room. I'd definitely stay here again.

Myself, husband and my mother stayed here for 2 nights. We managed to park easily although I would imagine it may be more difficult when busy. Check in was very safe our temperature was checked and everyone wore face coverings except when sitting at a table which made us feel relaxed. Our rooms were spotless and the beds very comfortable with all the usual extras. But what made our stay so enjoyable was the staff who were lovely and so helpful. One particular member of staff who stood out to us was called Ian (I think) who worked both evenings we were there. We ate in the hotel both evenings and the food was excellent. There was a menu which was served all day and had usual pub style meals but there was also a specials menu in the evening which was slightly more expensive but well worth paying the extra for. I really can't fault this hotel. We will definitely be back next time we visit Norwich.

We stayed and worked at the hotel remotely while disruptive building work was taking place at our house. With our small dog, Lottie my wife and I were made so welcome by the staff and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and we had a really enjoyable stay. Ideally located in a nice part of the City, the George is a little gem of a hotel and one we would strongly recommend.

This pleasant hotel is located in a leafy suburb, about 20 mins walk outside the city centre. My executive double room (upgraded at no charge from a single) was spacious, well equipped, quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was good, and the cosy Arlington bar / bistrot serves decent meals at other times of day. Service is helpful, with proper attention to COVID protocols. A great mid-price choice.

Check in was covid compliant quick with no fuss. Room was probably the smallest I've ever stayed in (room 14) but that wasn't a problem. The worst thing was that the pillows were awful one pillow was rock hard thick and lumpy the other was as flat as a pancake and too soft, obviously some may like that but they just didn't suit me, had very little sleep. Breakfast was OK and checkout was fine.

I spent 2 nights at the George hotel. It was first class the staff were friendly helpful and professional. The bedroom was of a high quality. The breakfast and meals were excellent I will be returning soon.

This is a lovely hotel , the staff were first class, the hotel rooms were very bright and spotlessly clean, there were a couple of things to be aware of however if you arrive around late in the day when the restaurant is full you cannot get a parking space which is a real problem We dined in the restaurant twice the first night was fine on the second night the 4 of us all went for the fish & chips which was awful, the waitress told us prior to ordering it was Freshly caught that day , well that just was not true this fish came out of a freezer, we were all in agreement with is which was very disappointing as it was quite expensive, we never used the restaurant again as this put us off, but we would return to the hotel as everything else was wonderful

Like so many others in the Summer of 2020 we decided to explore a new area in the UK & decided to use Norwich as a base to explore not only the city but the Norfolk Broads, Southwold & the North Coast. Not only was our decision to see the area a great one but our choice of hotel was also simply perfect. We based our choice on location, price & quality & the hotel suited out needs perfectly. It's a pleasant-enough 15 / 20 minute stroll into Norwich & located in one of the nicer suburbs. We circled Norwich as we approached from the Broads & passed by a lot of areas that I wouldn't have felt comfortable staying in but the hotel is in a quiet area with easy access to the outer roads via a smart tree-lined avenue. The hotel itself has recently been renovated with a clean, modern decor throughout & felt completely at home. The public areas including bar & restaurant were tasteful & every member of staff we encountered were generally lovely. Having done a little research we did select the suite for our 3 night stay so I can't share what the other rooms are like however we did peek into a few when being cleaned & they looked nice. Our suite was perfect. A massive bedroom with corridor upto a grand bathroom with feature bath. It's not a 5 Star Hotel, our bathroom blind was broken & the pale grey paint-work in the stairwell to our room had already taken a hammering by luggage but when we stayed here, it was more than acceptable & generally a lovely property. The suite is perched at the top of the hotel and located up a narrow, steep staircase with beams and uneven flooring but it added to the charm in our opinion and bedlinen, etc were all great. The menu at the hotel was massive and everything we ate was perfect and to our taste. Generally standard british classics, beautifully cooked and great portions meant that due to the fact we didn't want to venture out on our first evening, we decided to stay at the hotel to eat & we ended up doing this again on our final evening ... something we rarely do as we're not generally fans of hotel food and enjoy going out to eat but the dining areas were pleasant enough with great staff, food & reasonably priced drinks. Breakfast was cooked to order and fantastic. The car park was always almost full but we didn't have a problem getting a space & free so there was nothing we could fault with our stay at the George & so glad we decided to stay here

Temperature taken at checkin and masks asked to worn throughout except when seated in bar and restaurant. Room was large and comfortable and bathroom was on larger size with good shower. Three menus to choose from with just enough vegetarian options to be ok. Food was a good standard. Staff were great although extremely busy. Breakfast again was a good standard. Would recommend.

We stayed at the george by chance. We have 2 little dogs and when we asked about availabilty they went the extra mile to accomadate us, We stayed in room 203 which was lovely and very clean, the evening meal and breakfast were excellent. We cant thank the staff enough for the kindness shown to us and our 2 little dogs - Well done ! best hotel we have stayed at on our Road trip.. we will be back.

A great hotel with beautiful rooms. We had a bungalow room which allowed us to take our dogs. Lovely and quiet, very clean. Ate in the hotel twice and the food was amazing as was the service. Will definitely go back and cannot recommend enough.

The George Hotel is situated just off the A11 as you get towards the city centre and is about a 15 minute walk to the edge of the shopping area. From a wider perspective, it is either part of, or close to Norwich's very pleasant “Golden Triangle” residential area and the eclectic Unthank Road. We arrived for check in at about 1400 and the car park had plenty of space left. During the two days we were here however, it was noticeable that it was full by early evening - so if you want a space, be early. Check in was friendly and helpful and all necessary Coronavirus safeguards were in place. Our room was very nicely decorated and furnished and had the luxury of air conditioning. The en-suite bathroom was also smart and had good towels and toiletries. Breakfasts were good and you basically had to order what you wanted from the menu and it would be brought to you, and this included basic items like orange juice, marmalade's etc. The cooked breakfasts were very nice and consisted of good quality ingredients, well cooked and nicely presented. The service at breakfast, and throughout the hotel was very good. We had a very enjoyable stay and consider this hotel an ideal choice. We would certainly use it again.

The restaurant offers a good breakfast and dinner options were plentiful, with alcohol not too expensive. A nice easy 20 minute walk into town for dining out if you prefer. What makes this hotel so wonderful is the staff. They are extremely helpful, friendly and courteous. Would highly recommend for a business or pleasure stay.

Located in a quiet setting just off the A11 yet less than a mile from Norwich City centre. We loved this hotel immensely with its homely atmosphere. Most rooms are on on two floors only, there is no lift. It possesses a very pleasant restaurant, offering good choice at very reasonable prices. Quality of food is excellent, well cooked and nicely presented. Good choice of wines with prices for a bottle from £16.85. The staff were first class, very friendly and willing to sort out customer requests and requirements. They all appear to be part of a team in harmony, enjoying their work. Only issue, is the tight car parking, customers arriving late May have to block others in. I would certainly stay at this hotel again, it's a good base to visit most places in Norfolk being close to the city's ring roads.

Spent 3 nights at The George Hotel. Parking onsite, excellent Covid-19 safety measures. Room comfortable, the only slight downside is that we can hear our neighbours. However, this would not put me off staying here again as all the staff were delightful, everywhere was spotless and the public rooms were lovely. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis but the food was so good we ended up having all our evening meals at the hotel. Easy access in to the city and Norfolk Broads.

Me and my wife recently spent a few days in Norwich and had 2 nights at The George Hotel. We had such a lovely stay with the staff all very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Everything was covid safe and very well organised. Both evenings we ate at the hotel and the food was excellent and the menus were very good, with a large choice. Our room was very clean and of a good size. The bed was enormous and it was lovely to have hot drink facilities in the room too. We shall definitely stop again when in Norwich. We have stayed at other 4 star hotels, but these were not as nice as The George Hotel.

My wife and I, both in our seventies, chose this hotel for two reasons. One, it had good reviews and two, it was within easy walking distance of Norwich. In fact, we gently strolled it in about 15 minutes. The staff are unfailingly polite and friendly, the room was clean, well appointed and had a very comfortable bed. The real bonus of our stay was the quality of the food. Both breakfast and dinner menus had many choices and the food itself was beautifully cooked and presented. Finally, in these troubled times of Covid 19, the hotel were exemplary in their safety precautions. Mask discipline was insisted upon, a one way system in force and a temperature reader at the hotel entrance. Like many, making their first trip out this year, it is a fairly nervous undertaking but both my wife and I felt very safe at The George Hotel.

We booked a week or so before arriving as a short break for us and my parents. My dad uses a mobility scooter and they have some rooms outside of the main hotel which are fully accessible, which he found very useful. We were in Room 128 which was towards the rear of the hotel in the 1st floor. As we had booked a standard room it wasn't large, but sufficient for our needs, all has been recently refurbished to a good standard. The food at every meal we had was good, and the restaurant well spaced out during these times of Covid. The staff were all wearing either masks or visors in all parts of the hotel. We couldn't fault any of the staff, Alistair especially, was very helpful and courteous. Julie, the General Manager runs a great little find of a hotel, whose staff have been there for a long time. The hotel is positioned about 15 minutes walk from the City Centre in a quiet position. We will be back!!

Thanks for making our anniversary so special,lovely friendly staff,great food with varied menus,clean,modern rooms with very comfortable beds and all set in quiet ground where you cant really believe your so close to the city centre. this charming place constantly ticks all the boxes for my wife and i and even in these turbulent times it was lovely to see that all covid safety measures were being handled in a very non intrusive professional manner!

Modern hotel with in easy walk of city center . Stayed in executive room with air con and large comfy bed . Large en-suite shower room . Very friendly staff and excellent breakfast with plenty of choice . Would highly recommend !!

We were taking a city break and booked this hotel as close to city .had parking too.the hotel allowed our small dog and so we stayed in the annex of cottage rooms.room really clean and very comfortable.we had the breakfast of fruit and full English which was delicious.we ordered the evening meal of meats,tempura prawns and steak.all were excellent and the steak was perfectly cooked .all the staff were lovely especially Donna who served our meal in the evening who was such a funny bubbly lady and a credit to the team at the hotel .would recommend staying here

First time staying in this hotel, and stayed for 4 nights in late August so can't comment on what it was like pre-refurb. To be honest, nothing wrong with this hotel, but I'll list pros and cons below. However, after not staying in a hotel for 5 months, it's amazing how you forget how inconsiderate and selfish other hotel residents can be either late night (loud TV) or very early morning (lovely morning rituals, see Cons below). Pros: Great COVID precautions, sanitiser everywhere, staff wearing face masks; clean rooms; nice fluffy towels; free parking; pleasant 20 minute walk to town; Eagle pub nearby is nice as are cafes on Unthank Road Cons: Walls are paper thin - this is the problem with other residents who are unknowingly noisy and live in their own world. Woke up to neighbour on last morning blowing his nose at 6.30am and coughing up his guts. On the first morning woke up to a toddler screaming and shouting at 5am. Not what you pay £100 a night for. Also, shower head not the best - doesn't have revolving options so you can choose the type of water flow. Finally, the wifi is shocking, very slow and frequently dropped. If you have any work to do, use your own 4G hotspot.

Ours was just a brief stay of one night . . we had a warm and friendly welcome from the receptionist on arrival, and after booking dinner, sat in the bar where the older staff members were jovial and engaging while remaining very courteous. Breakfast was great, and, probably the only good thing to come out of the current unfortunate situation, was served to us at our table, which I have to say is hugely preferable to walking about helping ourselves and dodging other guests. Our room was a standard double, a little in need of some cosmetic attention in the small bathroom, but still providing everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and the duvet was lovely. Overall, very acceptable, and we would stay there again.

Just returned from a 3 night, post lockdown stay at The George. All the Covid safety measures worked well and all staff were wearing face visors. The room was very clean and had lovely white fluffy towels in the bathroom. The rooms aren't huge but adequate. I hadn't accounted for how busy the restaurant would be due to the Eat out to Help out so we were advised, correctly, to pre book the 3 evening meals. The waiting and bar staff worked exceptionally hard but always managed a smile and a friendly comment. Food was also first class. A very safe and enjoyable stay at this excellent hotel

Had a great stay with a friend to use as a base for visiting a few coastal towns over the course of a long weekend. We each had a single room on the ground floor, both were of a good size with a large en-suite bathroom, and a really comfortable, large single bed. The bar/restaurant area was modern, and whilst we didn't eat at the hotel aside from breakfast, the food we saw going to other tables looked (and smelt!) really good! We did, however, use the hotel bar both evenings and this was reasonably priced, with excellent service! (Shout out to the bar manager here who recommended a really tasty English whisky! I forgot to get the name of it...) Breakfast was also of very good quality! Finally, just to touch on the safety aspect as we were visiting in the middle of August during a certain pandemic. The George has done an excellent job in making sure it's as safe as it can be, with temperature checks (using a rather neat machine that measures it from the inside of your wrist!) on entry and a one-way system through the hotel. All staff were wearing visors (and some with masks also) when in direct contact with guests.

Great location for visiting the Norfolk Coast AONB and the Broads. Compact, but well presented and clean room that was serviced daily which is unusual at the moment (you can opt for your room not to be serviced if you prefer). Bed was large and comfortable. Air conditioning throughout the hotel was welcome. Staff in the bar/restaurant were excellent. Only niggle was the limited car parking; there's a large annex in the car park which means spaces are at a premium.

Rooms are a good size, nicely furnished, very clean and well maintained. Good amenities in the room. Beds are large and comfortable with good pillows. Good shower. Quick and powerful air conditioning. Location is convenient for both travelling around Norfolk and getting into Norwich. Staff are very helpful and friendly. No noise from outside, can have a little from rooms above. For the price, an excellent hotel.

I stayed here for work for almost a week, and was slightly nervous arriving after not being in work for a while due to the C-word.. When I arrived late on a Sunday night, Alastair greeted me, and was immediately super friendly, helpful and professional.. I had even brought my own pasta to reheat in a rubbish old box which he brought to my room on a lovely plate with salt, pepper and parmesan if I fancied..! Doesn't sound like a big deal, but it made my day, and you absolutely do not get this service in most places! Another shout out to Sally who also went out of her way to make sure I was looked after in the best possible way.. I would honestly say, don't bother looking looking elsewhere. 5 star service for affordable prices, absolutely excellent.

Stayed here last night in a standard double room. I had an issue with the air conditioner and spoke to reception who without hesitation changed my room. The room was very clean and the air conditioning was excellent. We enjoyed a lovely meal in the hotel bistro and a fabulous breakfast the next morning. This is a lovely hotel with fantastic staff who can't do enough to make your stay a great one!!!

Despite advertising on their website they have aircon this is not the case. So a very hot noisy room and a poor nights sleep. Room service food average. Staff were very polite and took covid precautions very seriously

I couldn't be happier with this fantastic hotel. Being medical I am very aware of COVID-19 measures in place and this hotel has got it down to a fine art. I felt very safe here with staff all wearing visors in the restaurant and bar area. The service was very quick and professional. The staff could not be any more helpful and I mean ALL the staff. Housekeepers, waiting staff, reception, managers and maintenance staff. They work incredibly hard to make your stay perfect. They all strive for excellence. The food is amazing. Rooms VERY clean. If any other local hotels are reading this. Go to The George Hotel and The Arlington restaurant to see how it should be done. I am 100% happy and I can't fault a thing. Perfection and a credit to the hospitality industry...

Visited The George Hotel for a family weekend. Apprehensive at first being clinical front line workers and whether hotels are taking COVID-19 seriously….well we were extremely pleased at the safety response by the hotel. They had thought about both staff and customer safety with social distancing, PPE, hand gel dispensers, one-way system and an electronic thermometer in reception.....in our opinion they had gone above and beyond. The room was lovely (clean and well decorated). The food was fabulous. On our second night the hotel restaurant was fully booked but Alistair and Sally did their utmost best to accommodate and ensured we were happy. The restaurant / bar staff Megan, Ash & Co were so professional and polite it was a pleasure. It was so clear that the professionalism demonstrated by the owners was definitely shared by the staff but most of all Alistair who was a true ambassador for the hotel. His customer service skills were exemplary and well appreciated. so much so we have rebooked. Hats off to the hotel and restaurant. You maintained our safety and treated us with the highest level of customer service possible. thank you sincerely.

We love it here and visit often. We also recommend to our family to stay here when they visit. Good food and staff are fantastic. They also cater for business functions which I have attended and they are brilliant.

Booked in just after it opened post Lockdown. Wanted a dog friendly hotel close to where parents were staying in Loddon, so a short 10 mile drive. Covid restrictions clear and easy to understand. Nice separate bungalow for dogs and first time in a hotel for Rapha. At breakfast the staff had done a lovely job in getting a table in the bar for us all. Though as Rapha was unsettled with all going on, we went outside and they brought breakfast out to us! Great service and thoughtfulness. Thank you!

A lovely comfortable little hotel in a quiet location close to Norwich city centre. Ian and his team were very friendly, attentive and efficient. Our comfy room was prettily decorated and spotlessly clean . Breakfast was delicious and plentiful . We would certainly stay again and highly recommend .

We went in for a drink with a view to stay for dinner. The new owners have spent a lot of money refurbishing the George and we wanted to try it out. Regrettably there were some locals sitting drinking who were f***ing ( and worse ! ) and blinding and the barman was doing nothing to stop them. We found it offensive so left ,as did several other couples who were there when we went in but not by the time we left. A shame - it looks nice but if the hotel cannot control its customers better they will not succeed.

Stayed two nights in this hotel in Norwich. Hotel is very easy to find. Good parking facilites. ALL staff are very friendly and also HAPPY- they enjoy their job and it shows. The rooms were spotless, good facilities in the room. A really good Wifi connection. Not noisy and we slept well. We had breakfast and evening meal. All food cooked to order, all fresh and really beautifully cooked. can well recommend. We are already planning our next stay in this hotel next year.

The George is very easy to find set on the main road into Norwich. A very welcoming receptionist dealt with our check in . The room(127) was compact, extremely comfortable and spotless. Being towards the back of the building, it was lovely and quiet. During early evening the bar area is buzzing with “locals”, always a very good sign indicating we were in for a delicious meal and we weren't disappointed. Every meal, whether breakfast or evening was beautifully cooked and presented . All the staff are quite charming, the entire week was thoroughly enjoyable.

Needed a base for romantic getaway and found a good'un here. Seemed to be run by a close team of staff who certainly provided good customer service. Room was very large and comfortable. Nice atmosphere in the bar area too (and the chance to catch up on our chess skills). Noise from somewhere outside during early part of the night (?kitchen). Best part was the bottle of bubbles gifted as an anniversary present. Lovely personal touch which was very much appreciated.

My husband and I had our wedding reception at The George on 22/02/20. They were amazing from start to finish. Julie and Jane were fabulous, they let us choose what we wanted and created a package around that. Even little things like having gin cocktails instead of prosecco, nothing was too much trouble. I stayed the night before in the Garden Suite, which is beautiful and had plenty of room for me and my family to get ready. We were allowed to set up the room the night before which made the day much less stressful for me. Alastair in particular was a huge help, answering any questions we had and easing any worries. On the day, all the staff were incredibly attentive. Ian was also amazing, making sure that my husband and I had a drink when we returned from having some photos taken. Alastair made a great impression on my guests, more than one mentioned how fabulous he was. He really went above and beyond, checking the room temperature was ok, making sure we were happy with everything. The food was delicious, there was plenty of it and more than one guest commented on how tasty everything was. They did an outstanding job. We loved DJ Nij who was recommended by the hotel, the dance floor was full all night! Alastair also very kindly brought our cake out again for us when we should've been wrapping up as our guests realised we hadn't cut it. Having worked in hospitality for many years I can guarantee I would have been annoyed by us at this point but Alastair could not have been nicer. We had the best day and a huge reason for that is The George and how wonderfully we were treated. We wanted a relaxed, low key wedding and the venue was perfect for us. The staff were fabulous, the food was delicious, I cannot recommend them highly enough.

I'm here currently at the George hotel in Norwich for work for a couple of nights. This was booked pretty much at random at the last minute as these things are, and I have to say it's turned out well! The room I'm in is warm,very clean & comfortable. Food and service in the restaurant are excellent. They even have a cask beer available from the cellar which is proving to he very nice indeed. These are the essential things one looks for when stopping away from home on business. Highly recommended.

Our family decided to hold the Wake here and stay overnight. The staff looked after us really well and were attentive but not OTT. We are in the restaurant that evening and the food was really good at a very reasonable price. Sorry I didn't get his name but the bar manager who also served our food was excellent. Great fun and just what was needed after the day. He was also working in the morning and carried on where he left off - a real credit to the business. Breakfast was again excellent. I stayed in a single room which was clean and comfortable. Would recommend this place highly.

Stayed here for a couple of nights to attend a party. Chosen mainly because it was within easy walking distance of our friends, it was a pleasant hotel in a nice area. Room was reasonably sized and very clean. Shower and bath worked well. Bed comfortable. Room was quiet despite being near the main staircase and people having to walk past us to get to their rooms. Didn't try the restaurant so can't comment on that. Reception very friendly and helpful.

We stayed here on our way back from a few nights in Norfolk. The hotel is a bus ride away from the city centre but as we were looking for somewhere with parking it was a good trade. The room was very clean and modern. The food in the restaurant was of a high standard and the staff were very nice. I would recommend this hotel to people wanting a couple of nights in Norwich.

Everything was perfect . The food was freshly made. The taste was amazing. They must have a top chef. Even the breakfast was given top standard. If you wanted me to look for a fault, then the brightness on the tv was very dark. Staff soon sorted it. This is one of the hotels that we will be returning and looking forward to it.

Overall this 3* hotel punches above its weight. Check-in and out was fast and friendly. My 'executive' (I do hate that word!) double was clean and fresh, although a little compact - but for £80 (B&B) was excellent value). Breakfast was superb - so nice to have it freshly cooked rather than collecting it from a buffet where the food has been hanging around. Restaurant food very tasty. Room service was prompt. Staff were excellent, in particular the barman (although he seems to do lots of other things too - he was friendly, polite and humourous!. My only complaint was that on my first night there was a disco in the bar and the bass boomed continuously until gone midnight although my room was a good distance from the bar - God knows what it was like for people in rooms nearer the bar. I do get why the hotel would accept parties like this but It would have been nice to have been warned of this at the time of booking, or maybe the hotel could invest in some sound-proofing! Overall though this is a gem - will definitely stay again

Stayed here for 1 night on New Year's Eve. Stayed in the king suite which was really lovely. Nice and clean, very spacious and beautifully decorated. Had a meal in the bar which was also very tasty. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again and would happily recommend.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel during the end of year holiday season; we were in Norwich for a family visit. The hotel far exceeded my expectations. Our room was spotless and comfortable, the bed and linens were great. The dining room and the bar were very good; the choices were good and the preparation excellent. All the staff are to be commended--the service throughout was top notch. The heart of the city center is either a nice walk or a short bus ride away. We would happily return!

We chose this hotel as it takes dogs. It is a superb hotel, within 10 mins walk to the city centre. It was very comfortable. We stayed in one of the Garden Rooms which are the rooms where dogs are allowed. Our son and his wife stayed in the hotel and they were extremely impressed with their room. We had a superb meal in the evening and all the staff were extremely friendly. We will definitely stay here again. There is also ample parking!

It was my second time staying here. I stayed here for one night on a business trip. The bedroom was clean and comfortable, had a good size bed in the room, nice modern bathroom. Good parking facilities on site. I ate in the restaurant this time, good variety and selection on the menu, however there was a function on in the evening and had to wait until 8pm to be served. Breakfast buffet was good, plenty of choice and some food cooked items were available to order. I would stay here again as overall it is a lovely hotel and a great night's sleep.

My mum son and I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights for Christmas as we were visiting my daughter who lives locally but did not have the room in her home for us to stay . We chose this hotel due to reviews and location . We were impressed by the special touches on arrival. Staff were attentive and friendly . The breakfast choices were appetising . The full English delicious also my mum said the porridge was the best ever . Our rooms clean and showers were good . My only gripe was no towels changed after 4 nights but I am sure had I asked this would have been done . A lovely stay and thankyou to staff for the service and pleasant attitudes . Happy New Year to you all

We have just returned from a 3 day stay at this marvellous establishment. We stopped in a dog friendly room but you would have never guessed there had been a dog in this room before. It is a very smart professionally run place with great staff who are very attentive at all time. We will be using this hotel as our base in Norwich from now on. The only negative is we could have done with a soap holder in the shower!!!

My Dog and I enjoy our welcome staying here. A quiet location off the main road with plenty parking. Taxi to City centre was about about £5. The restaurant had Three Menus with some room service. I found the quality of food excellent and the Breakfast especially generous and varied. Special requests where no problem for the staff.

The food was superbly cooked and presented. The staff were very attentive. Thank you Richard and Katie to your amazing staff for a lovlely Christmas Lunch. Not forgetting the Chief and all the kitchen staff too. Thank you. Jackie and Geoff. Also noticed that 'Elf' had had such a good time that he did not get home on Christmas Eve !

I came here for my works' Christmas lunch functions in the middle of the week, with around 40 colleagues. The staff at the George Hotel did a good job in ensuring the satisfaction of such a large group of people. We had a room large enough to accommodate the group, which had lots of nice festive touches with the decorations on the wall and was a great way to get in the spirit of Christmas. It also appeared to me a clean hotel which enhanced our experience. The staff were very friendly and I could tell they enjoyed our company. The food (I had a steak and ale pie) was excellent and I would definitely recommend the George Hotel to anyone.

I have stayed at the George 4 or 5 times now, sometimes before it was refurbished, it is now so much better as long as you don't get a lower floor room next to the car park, the rooms are clean and tidy with good facilities but because of its location views from your room are not great.

Booked the George Hotel to stay in the city after my Christmas party. Was reassured to read it was recommend by fellow solo guests. Lovely room, excellent breakfast, welcoming staff, beautifully decorated for Christmas. Exceptional value for money. Will definitely re-book when I next need an overnight stay in Norwich.

We were there as a coach load on our way to Thursford. Our two night stay was excellent in every way. From our initial welcome on the coach, to our warm and immaculate rooms, to the tasty meals, but most of all the staff. We had 2 dinners and breakfasts, all served with such a friendly and professional manner. Our main server was Alastair, a bundle of energy, wit and charm. When he was not there on one of the 4 meals, everyone asked where he was.... credit too to the chefs for cooking our meals so quickly, yet seeming fresh cooked to order from our multiple choice at the meal tables. I just loved the roast pork, simply perfect. Yes the hotel is quite old, but it is well up to date with smart clean decor and good room facilities; much more preferable to a new 'hotel block' out on a bypass. So, we were very happy there, as were all our party. Recommended.

I stayed in The George in Nov 19 for perhaps the 8th time since 2001. I'm writing about actions staff members took to turn what would have been an awful experience into a wonderful one. I was in Norwich for the funeral of a dear friend. The night after the funeral, I booked a table in the hotel's restaurant for those remaining in town to share dinner with the grieving widower. It turned out a mistake was made, + the restaurant could not handle our group. It was a Saturday night, + we really had no other options. I was upset, + became quite hostile toward the staff. Rather than respond in kind, Sally (front desk) + Ian (restaurant/catering manager) went to work to try + find a solution. I'm not sure how they managed, as they had a group of 65 in the next room, but they managed to set up a private room (which I had not asked for) in which our group could dine, + they assigned the absolutely delightful Alistair (I hope I spelled it right) to wait on us. It turned out to be exactly what the widower needed, a quiet place to be with friends, most of whom were departing the next day. I cannot say enough good things about how this was handled. Sally never lost her cool, even though a million things were going on around her. She was a very calming influence to my upset American ranter persona. Ian + Alistair were professionals, doing their jobs, making things happen, not complaining. Their actions made a huge positive impression on all of us, + helped us provide some loving support to the widower, who had very suddenly + without warning lost the love of his life. The room, the food, + the service far exceeded our expectations. We will remember the kindness of Sally, Ian, + Alistair always. Thank you.

We were here for one afternoon only for the purposes of a wake, so I'm not really in a position to offer a full review. However, I thought I would say that, if our brief experience is anything to go by, it's probably a really nice place to stay: the staff were all very friendly, and the parts of the building that we saw seemed to be clean and tidy.

Nice enough hotel, Breakfast good, bar area good , only downside was the room , Paid for an executive room, but in all honesty wasn't worth the £120 a night. Bathroom was smaller than what we have at home , roller blinds in the windows hid the black mould on the woodwork, Spare quilt wedged in a clear bag on top of the wardrobe , not things you would expect in an executive room

We spent two nights there as a group to visit the Thursford spectacular. Lovely hotel who looked after our group really well. Food was excellent and the staff were just lovely being very helpful with the less able in our group. Everything was very near to hand which was great. Rooms very comfortable

We stayed at The George,Norwich for two nights and it was really good.The hotel is near the town centre with a local bus service.There is free parking .The bar and restaurant is comfortable with excellent service.

We spent a couple of nights in this lovely, clean hotel. The staff were amazing, each and every one of them, nothing was too much trouble for anything we needed or asked. The room was clean, comfortable, lovely and warm with extra bits in the bathroom and a lovely tea and coffee tray. The food in the restaurant was of a very high standard, plenty of choice, plated beautifully and tasted delicious. Breakfast again was of the highest standard with so much choice all freshly displayed or cooked. A decent 20 minute walk into the beautiful city of Norwich. Just perfect.

We stayed here for 3 nights in an “executive” double room. The bed was a good size but the room was quite small, not what I would have classed as executive. The space around the bed was very tight and not enough for two people to pass the end of the bed at the same time. However it was clean and comfortable. The rest of the hotel was good and the staff were very pleasant. The location was very good for the city centre, for walking to (12mins) or by the frequent busses on the main road adjacent to the hotel. Would recommend and will stay again, but not pay the premium for the so called better room.

We have just enjoyed a two night stay at The George. All staff were welcoming, efficient and friendly. Our room was superb, very comfortable bed and beautifully decorated surroundings. We decided to eat in the restaurant on the first evening and it was so good we cancelled our booking for somewhere else on the second night and stayed in again. Lovely food that was very well presented, excellent service .

My husband and I stayed at the George Hotel last night and both agree that this is where we would come if we needed to book a hotel again in Norwich. It is clear that significant investment has gone into the hotel with the quality of furniture and furnishings being incredibly high. No cheap, old fashioned furniture here, but the type of furniture I would be happy to have at home. I am an above knee amputee and use a wheelchair, so we booked the accessible room. My husband and I are used to going into a hotel room and looking for all the problems that there are. We were in for a surprise for unusually there were none!

Good location and decent enough room. That's the good bit. However, our stay was totally spoilt by the noise from what I am assuming was the bar beneath us. I could almost make out a conversation being had. Along with loud music going on until midnight as if it was in the next room this was far from a relaxing stay. Then it all started again in the morning at 7.45am - loud music on a Sunday morning. Come on, this is ridiculous. What sort of hotel does this on a Sunday morning? Back to the room itself, the pillows were poor and the shower pathetic. It's really sad as, with just a bit more consideration, this has the potential to be a great little hotel but it failed on what a hotel is there for: a peaceful night's sleep. I'm just glad that your receptionist didn't ask if we had a nice stay when we left.

Had a wonderful wedding in the george arlington place norwich the staff was great the wedding planner was so good and helpful and thefood was first class and the wedding suite was good and the manager too was excellent

We had another successful stay at The George. The location is excellent being within Norwich's Golden Triangle and just a short walk from the city centre. We had a deluxe room which was spacious, in very good decorative order and warm. The breakfast was cooked to order and served very quickly at the table. We enjoyed a Cromer Crab salad and steak when we dined in the restaurant.

I am a seasoned BW rewards member and asked for a quiet room for 2 nights- I was given the smallest room (with a closet sized bathroom next to the exit and adjacent to the parking lot! It was Noisy because the walls are thin, plumbing is old and cars in the parking lot were 4 ft from the bed. Bed was comfortable otherwise the poorest room I have stayed in for a long while - don't take room #12 ! My colleagues arrived after me and had OK rooms but were not BW rewards members ... maybe it pays not to be BW Member. Restaurant and bar were helpful and friendly and breakfasts were very good. I visited the nearby Priscilla Bacon hospice each day which is a convenient 15 min walk from the hotel, so location was fine, but I won't stay here again.

We booked 6 months in advance and had the executive room based on the photos on the website. We arrived at 4:30pm and viewed our room which looks nothing like the web photos. When I asked if there were any alternatives I told no everyone is checked so there are no alternatives. They try to project a Georgian hotel but our room and it would seem most of the rooms are in a 1960s extension. Our room had damp on the wall a tiny external window and cheap dated bathroom without a window.

Great service, all staff greeted you with a smile, always willing to have a conversation with you. Food (breakfast and evening meal) good value. Nice and quiet just off a main road and only 15 mins from town centre.

We were guests at a wedding reception which was organised and managed on the day to a very high standard . The hotel was lovely, the rooms were nice and clean and the food was really very good. When I asked about a gluten free dessert the staff offered me a choice of two and also said that they had prepared a plate of GF canapes for me. Such a pleasant surprise as this was not expected. At breakfast the next day my GF requirements were also catered for with no problems at all. I would stay here again with no hesitation. The staff were so friendly and helpful they really made the wedding reception enjoyable.

We celebrated our elderly friend's birthday by having afternoon tea with all of her guests. The room where we had the party was lovely with the tables looking even better than we had expected. The staff were very attentive and the afternoon tea was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble. From our visit to look round , to the party the service has been excellent. Thank you for a special afternoon.

The hotel is centrally located being a few minutes walk to the town centre. Rooms are super and well decorated and maintained. Staff are friendly and welcoming. My sleep was disturbed on this particular stay but the hotel handled it brilliantly and immediately when they knew there was a problem. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel and will defiantly stay again. Wonderful place.

Refused exec room as it appeared to be just a standard room - surprised at the ease at which our view was accepted and we accepted 'garden suit' room then We were DBB basis - told dinner was 3 courses- at hotel told we had £23 allowance? which really covered two courses unless you want pub meals.- raised this with manager who promised to get back to us - still waiting...!! found protruding electrical wires in broken table lamp - reported told 'No worries'' Had we accepted sub standard room offered having paid for exec room we would have been had over- surprised by how our view was so readily agreed with !!

Rated fairly as a 3 star hotel - this is exactly what it was. Clean and with a comfortable bed, all I needed. The decor is ok, some rough bits - paintwork, awful cupboard as a wardrobe , I wouldn't use as it smelt a little. The heating wasn't on and I didn't bother to report it as I watched TV in bed! However it was a good stay, with efficient, friendly staff and value for money. I would return despite the above minor issues.

Great Best Western Hotel probably the best run we have stayed in in our many short breaks around the country country. Good well trained/experienced staff who obviously enjoyed their work. Good value when you can take advantage of the BW offers available. Restaurant food very good .

In July I was researching trip advisor to find a new place around Norwich for lunch and as a result, we went to the George and were delighted with the experience! Now, it's our favourite place for lunch and dinner. We have just booked Xmas day lunch! The food is fresh, expertly cooked , with a great selection. The service and staff are friendly and conscientious. We just held my partner's birthday party there, with 55 guests , the hotel DJ, and hot buffet! It was perfect from start to finish. Thank you so much George Hotel for making the planning painless and the experience truly wonderful for us all. I felt confident , had high hopes and expectations and you met them all! Thank you for giving my partner and I and all our guests wonderful memories!

Just returned from a golfing holiday as a group of 33. The hotel is very clean and welcoming. The staff work very hard and are very accommodating. The food was excellent with a very good variety . I would highly recommend this hotel and if ever visiting Norwich again this is where I would try and stay.

Just back from a 4day stay with a group of friends. Staff very helpful and even managed to find me a phone charger as I had left mine at home. Room clean and well kept and even though part of a large party we had a different menu each night with plenty of choice. Would definitely visit again in the future.

The exterior as you approach this hotel is welcoming and the staff were friendly and helpful. The lounge and bar area are relaxed and comfortable and the evening meal we had there was excellent. Breakfast was adequate and service good. Unfortunately, there was no parking so we had to park in a nearby road which was mildly annoying. Again, on the negative side, the room smelled very musty and could not be described as inviting or somewhere that I would want to spend any time. It was however clean and well equipped and the bed comfortable.

I stayed for 2 nights at the Best Western George hotel, parking was a little tight as I arrived around 6:30pm not many spaces left. The check in at reception was swift the lady was new but handled check in very well. The room was cosy, very clean and comfortable. Some previous reviews mention thin walls I have to say you can here a little noise from other rooms but this was not really a problem for me. The bar area is very nice. The staff are very polite and see to all your needs. I only ate at the bar but the food was excellent, it was quite busy and the staff were making sure all orders were sent out as quickly as possible and were letting customers know there may be a small wait. Breakfast was made to order and again excellent. I will defiantly stay in this hotel again when in Norwich. A good find near to the city centre.

We stayed there with a group of 33 golfers and were offered fixed menu. When asked to make a change regarding starters the said if you don't like what the choices are tough. Crap customer service in my book Our request was an option on their normal menu

Stayed at the George for two nights as was doing some training in Norwich. On approaching the hotel I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it looks from the outside. Lovely big carpark so had no problem parking. A very pleasant greeting came from the receptionist on my arrival who was very helpful and ensured that I had everything that I needed for my stay. I stayed in Room 117 which is an executive single. Perfect for my trip. Although fairly small it had enough room just for me and had everything that you would need. Bathroom was also very nice, I used the bath which was lovely. Food in the restaurant was very nice, especially the chips!! Breakfast also good, lots of selection for continental breakfast and hot food cooked to order. The George is like a hidden gem! Very comfortable and the area it is in seems fairly quiet considering it is just off the main road. I often visit Norwich however this is the first time staying at the George. Will definitely consider staying here again in the future as I had such a pleasant stay. Thank you to all at The George.

The hotel has a good sized car park with specific disabled spaces right next to the entrance but the sign on the main road is easy to miss whilst driving down Newmarket road. After we had very quickly checked in the manager without asking carried our bags to our room as there is no lift in the hotel. Our room was lovely and large with a very comfortable King size bed with good sized chests of drawers either side for phone, water, book etc. The room also had a nice sofa and writing table plus complimentary tea, coffee etc and the biscuits were refreshed each day unlike some hotels which only provide them on the day of arrival. The bathroom was very small but clean and functional although it was difficult putting tooth brushes, contact lens solution etc out on the sink. The breakfast was excellent with a very good selection and the quality of the ingredients was very good - I especially enjoyed the full English although my wife found the smoked haddock excellent as it was very fresh and perfectly cooked. Service in the restaurant and reception area was excellent and we would definitely stay here again if we are in Norwich as its only a 15 minute walk to the centre of Norwich or a 5 minute drive.

I always have the executive single option when I stay solo at hotels. The room allocated at this ideally situated hotel is absolutely perfect. Light and airy, shower is easy to access and the bathroom is just right for me, especially complimentary toiletries. The bed is very comfortable and the room has all the amenities one would expect from a great hotel. I highly recommend a stay here. Everything else is superb, such as food and staff.

Considering the average high score that this hotel has (as of time of writing) I must have got really unlucky. (Room 119) There was a pervasive waft of mould / damp as soon as you enter the room. (Fortunately the windows could be opened and the area is quiet enough). The walls are paper thin and the taps in the sinks are comically loud. All through the night starting from about 9pm the radiator pipes creak and occasionally bang. (This was during the summer with the radiators in the room turned off). The single bed was comfy enough but the shower isn't thermostatically controlled so the temperature wobbles about depending on what water people in other rooms are using.

A modern hotel in one of the nicest parts of the city. It has been refurbished to a good standard and the rooms are bright and comfortable with an excellent power shower. It's about 15 minutes walk to the City Centre and an excellent base to explore.

Room was nice and well equipped, bed comfy, car park very small and spaces compact, struggled to fit my car in the space. Towels were very small, couldn't even wrap around my head. Breakfast was expensive, and had a much nicer one in Norwich. The carpets were very dirty. But the staff were very friendly, and helpful.

We arrived tired and worn out from our trip but were warmly greeted by the lovely hostess at the front desk. Although we had booked a standard room, she was able to upgrade us for the one night to a room that resembled a bedroom at Downton Abbey! It was so elegant and luxurious- we did not want to leave. Hope to come back to this lovely hotel close to town and walking distance to the bus stop.

Staff were incredibly helpful for our two day pre wedding stay. Meal for 32 of our guests on Friday night was excellent, rooms very good and appear recently refurbished with air conditioning in some. Perfect stay

We are local to Norwich so knew this hotel from old, but but refound this little gem of hotel several weeks back and go in at least once a week for a couple of drinks. We were in Norwich for a works event so decided to treat ourselves to a stay. Throughout our stay it was a lovely atmosphere and nothing too was too much trouble for the staff. Rooms were clean and nicely presented. Clearly there has been a lot of thought put into making this work. Would certainly recommend anyone visiting Norwich to stay here.

Stayed here for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was very spacious with excellent air conditioning that was put to good use as we were there during the heat wave. All the staff are very friendly, and nothing is too much trouble. The breakfast was good value & had a varied choice. We ate at the restaurant one of the nights and found the food to be great with large portions. The drinks from the bar were not too expensive either. All in all, a very pleasant stay. We would definitely stay here again if returning to Norwich.

We had a very enjoyable one night stay. We particularly liked the receptionists they were very welcoming and efficient. It was very handy for the city centre with a walk of about 15 minutes. We didn't try a bus but it seemed to be on numerous bus routes and I don't think that we would have had to wait longer than 10 minutes. We had one light bar meal and again can't fault the staff. It is definitely a place that we would return to.

A family occasion in Norwich was the reason for our stay at the George and I was pleased we had opted to stay here. Excellent rooms, clean, spacious and well stocked with toiletries, tea coffee making facilities, Wi-fi, TV . An extremely comfortable bed and a lovely feel to the place. Good location and lovely feel the place. Breakfast was excellent and the staff very good.

I stayed at this hotel on a WI coach trip. The rooms in the hotel were lovely and clean, the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The only negative was, there wasn't a lift, but they took our cases to our rooms for us. We had a good choice of food for our breakfast and evening meal which was prepared fresh and there was plenty of it. I would definitely recommend this hotel to stay in and would like to revisit the area

Brilliant hotel, wonderful evening dinner, super staff very friendly & efficient, very clean & comfortable room, bed was very comfortable. Easy check in & check out. Wouldn't hesitate to book again when we are in the area again.

We have just returned from a five day coach holiday at this hotel and can't recommend it enough,the rooms are spotless znd very comfortable the meals are fantastic but it's the staff that make the holiday all of them are very friendly and can't do enough for you my husband has psp so gets anxious eating in front of people and they made us up some table for the two of us so that he would feel comfortable x

I'm not sure why this is a 'signature' Best Western hotel, maybe the air-conditioned bedroom? I have to say this was very good as we had hot weather and the room was small. It had all the facilities though, and a good bathroom with heated towel rail; so that we could keep the bedroom cool and bathroom warm. The lounge and combined dining area is modern and minimalist with a whacking great widescreen telly always on. Looking at the menu, we certainly wouldn't want to eat there, but I guess it's ok for business people just passing through. However, we chose the hotel as it is within and easy walk to town, where we enjoyed its fine restaurants. Also, the breakfast was poor with very little choice, and my smoked haddock was like rubber. It must have been microwaved from frozen and not poached as I would have expected.

I stayed a night in early July. This hotel is massively improved after its renovation. But a hotel is only as good as its staff and the staff here are super. Reception is friendly and my check in was fine. I arrived late but the waiter was welcoming and the chef produced a delicious Cromer crab dish. When I checked out very early the next morning, reception ensured the costs of breakfast and a newspaper were repaid to my account. A pleasant hotel not far from Norwich city centre, can definitely recommend.

On the main A11 into Norwich the George has plenty of parking space and is just an easy15-20 minute walk into the centre. Hotel is very clean and looks well cared for. Our room was not large but had two chairs, a comfortable bed and a good shower. Bar was comfortable and prices very reasonable. A great place to stay. We would return on our next trip to Norwich.

A lovely hotel just off Newmarket Rd. Not far from the City Centre, walk-able in 15-20 mins. Great food,Very Clean Hotel and very friendly staff. We had a lovely meal in the in-house restaurant.Chef made me a meal that wasn't on the menu! Mixed Grill, maybe Hotel will add this to the menu? Would recommend this Hotel for a nice leisurely visit to Norwich.

When the booking was made for me at this hotel, I did not have high expectations. I imagined a typical Best Western, basic hotel. This was so much better. A really interesting older but refurbished building. Nothing Best Western about it. Just an older style building located about a 25-30 minute walk on an easy road into town. GBP5 taxi ride into town or bus within a few minutes walk from the hotel. We had room 211 up a series of winding stairs. The room is like a large loft, spacious, beautifully restored, lovely small windows which you can open at night. A large bathroom with a bath (yah). So hard to find these days. There is a bar/restaurant at lobby level which we really enjoyed. Fabulous bar tender. We had a G&T before leaving to go into town for dinner and then we had a baileys on ice when we returned before going to bed. Super friendly service at reception. The hotel is about a 20 minute cab ride from the train station. Thoroughly enjoyed this hotel. We'll be back. Highly recommended.

As regular visitors to Norwich, we stumbled on this treasure after our usual Premier Inn and Holiday Inn were fully booked due to the Take That concert. We were greeted by the lovely Sally who made us feel right at home straight away. Our two rooms were outside in the block of four bungalows. Both rooms were lovely, we were in 203, lovely bed, and fab shower room with a big walk in shower. The maid did our room the next day and it was as if new guests were arriving, spotless. The rooms are tastefully decorated and we could park right outside our door...for free!! The hotel lounge and bar area are decorated very nicely with quirky areas all around. Breakfast was lovely and reasonably priced too with such a good choice of food. A 15 minute casual stroll takes you right into the market end of the City. Will we come here as an option again? Definitely, we loved it!

Great homemade sausage rolls scones and coffee all bought from the bar. The food here is the best meals I have had in Norwich I would recommend this place for a party, wedding, meal, gathering of friends for coffee, meeting, or just dinner or drinks since the make over of this hotel of its rooms and communal areas it is a trendy hotel to eat and drink in. Easily accessible of the Main Street in a peaceful cul de sac the hotel offers free parking and wifi .. we were greeted by a smooth check in and a clean and comfortable room at the rear of the property that offered a quiet stay... Breakfast was good with the customer service provided by staff a highlight

Stayed at the George for 2 nights whilst visiting our daughter who is at University at Norwich. We love this hotel and on our last visit commented how good the menu in the restaurant looked. This visit we booked a table and had a wonderful meal from the extensive menu. The quality of the meal and the friendly service was excellent. A lovely relaxing hotel.

The hotel is very well presented, with lovely decor. The hotel has a good amount of free parking and is walking distance from the city centre. The staff are friendly and happy to help. The only downside was a poor nights sleep, noise seems to travel from other rooms and the corridors. Then when we had managed to get off to sleep a very loud Cuckoo woke us uo just after 4.30!he then persisted for good hour... no chance of getting back to sleep as other guests up and about and it felt like they had joined us the the room. Rooms are a decent size, and the air conditioning unit wirked a treat.

The whole experience was lovely on arrival the hotel looked lovely and the reception staff when checking us in very pleasant quick and efficient, we ate in the restaurant and it was amazing the food was absolutely brilliant presentation lovely and the staff was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble.

My wife & I decided to stay @ this hotel for our visit to Norwich based on reviews via TripAdvisor. It is about 15 minutes walk to the City center. We have stayed @ a number of Norwich area Hotels in the past. The exterior & carpark are well presented. The interior decor is also very pleasing to our eyes. All staff met were well presented, polite & friendly. Our room (No22) was an Executive - Double Room, (not sure what makes it 'executive' from a 'normal' double room!). The room was in very good decor & clean. We were a little disappointed in the wardrobe space (no shelf) just small bedside chest of drawers. The shower was over bath with a spotless plastic curtain, though we do not like this arrangement the layout of the bathroom cannot support a glass partition without a redesign. The bed was O/K. We dined in for three nights. The food was tasty & well presented the bar has a good choice of ales. Expect a half hour to forty-five-minute wait for the main dish as I believe it will be cooked when ordered. Thank you to the staff for their help with the clothing left behind. Overall we enjoyed our stay & can recommend this Hotel as a place to stay while visiting Norwich.

I really mean it. This hotel would give any so-called boutique hotel a run for its money and beat it hands down. The public spaces are decorated beautifully, the bedrooms equally so. The bed was really comfy, I slept better than I do in my own bed at home. And the curtains! The curtains are the thickest and softest I've ever encountered, keeping any chill and light out, while the air conditioning unit gives you warmth or coolness at the touch of a button. We stayed three nights, had breakfast every morning and ate in the restaurant two nights. And that's because the food was delicious. But above all that, the one element that truly blew us away. The people working at The George. Everyone - and I mean everyone - made us feel welcome, that we mattered and that we were more than just guests. We became part of the family. We have never, in all our holidays both in the UK and abroad, met a group of people so friendly, so natural and so authentic in the service they provide. Nothing was too much trouble. The amount of times we heard colleagues offering help to other colleagues, to do things once they'd finished their shift, to muck in and help out. There are a lot of hotels who could learn a huge amount from this amazing place and this exceptional team of people. Our special thanks go to Ali, Donna and Mollie, Julie and Ian. Thank you. I booked an Executive Double room at the hotel, which was well sized and had a large comfortable zip bed. The room's air conditioning, as well as both blinds & curtains were well appreciated. The staff were very generous and thoughtful about their patrons, supplying me with a USB plug adapter as my charger wasn't working properly. Definitely a hotel you can stay in for multiple nights & be content.

I planned to stay for two nights but woke up with diarrhoea and just wanted to go home. Asked at reception at 8am if I could be refunded for the additional night and was told that you had to cancel by 4pm the previous day. How could I have known I would be ill then? Mean!! Goodwill to all men ?!

Although this isn't really a business hotel, I stayed here for 3 nights on a work trip to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. The location was good for both town and the hospital. I was able to go for an enjoyable run in the evenings as there were walking paths along the main roads. The hotel is tucked away in a lovely residential area with a few nice pubs within walking distance, but central Norwich is only a short taxi/bus ride away or a slightly longer walk. My work annoyingly booked me into a single room, but I was delighted to be given a double! The room was on the small side, but that is better than having a single bed. There was not much space other than to move around the bed, but there was a desk to work at even if it was cluttered with tea making stuff and hotel information. The only slight annoyance was that the room did not seem to have its own climate control and it was very hot. It looked onto a utility area on the ground floor so opening the window was not the best idea. I am being really nit-picky but the TV did not have a sleep timer. The restaurant had a nice ambience and was used by locals and not just hotel guests which says something about the food quality. Breakfast was fantastic. Most importantly all the staff - from receptionist to bartenders - were very helpful and pleasant. I will be returning to the hotel on my next work trip.

First visit since refurb. Soooo good! Lovely to see modern and bright decor. Great new style - love it. Lovely welcome too from Ian - on a last minute lunch booking, when obviously already busy. Our group included our 88 year old Mum, who loved the friendly atmosphere (and very easy access!). Attentive service, prompt food, which was all delicious. Can recommend the chilli nachos! Can't wait to go back - thank you for a fabulous lunch! :) Alli

We had our wedding reception at the George Hotel 13 years ago and stayed over for our anniversary. The hotel has gone through a full refurbishment over the last year or so and it has been well worth it. The rooms are comfortable and the accessible room we had was well fitted. The wet room has a good shower and all the equipment needed. The room is modern, comfortable and was clean and very nicely made up. The staff are pleasant and extremely helpful. We also had coffee and cake in the bar/lounge area and this was lovely. There were a couple of larger groups having Afternoon Tea which has to be pre booked but looked very nice. Well worth a visit.

Stayed for 3 nights at the George Hotel with our little dog Rosie, really fantastic best hotel I have ever stayed in that allows dogs felt very welcome, all staff were excellent. Breakfast was lovely. Thank you for such a wonderful time.

I returned from the hotel today after a cracking weekend. I just get over how friendly the staff are! Absolutely all the hotel staff are polite, efficient and friendly. They couldn't do enough to help. As a late nigh hotel bar user I have never been welcomed in to a hotel at midnight as I was at this hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It has undergone a refurb and the place is spotless. Thank you guys, I look forward to seeing you again. Regards Andy

Staff all very helpful from original booking to check-out. Very pleased to have a 'cottage room' with my dog for ease of access during the night. The lounge area was welcoming with books of local interest and a bowl of water was provided for my dog. I had dinner on the Sunday night and was overwhelmed with choice from three menus. I was very satisfied with my choice of Roast Beef. The breakfast choice was extensive. Hotel is in a good location and you are able to leave your car there for a few hours after check-out.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights over last weekend. We are planning to bring a tour to the area in July so the purpose of the trip was to look around the area and try the hotel for ourselves. It didn't disappoint - the hotel is lovely. Clean and tastefully decorated. The heating system is very effective if needed and the bathroom large and brightly lit. The food in the Bistro was amazing, plenty of choice and very reasonably priced. Breakfast - what a fab choice and a real treat to find smoked haddock on the menu (my choice each morning and cooked to perfection). What really makes the difference in any hotel is the staff. Friendly, helpful and professional - a lovely bunch of people of whom you should be very proud. Our thanks to Julie for organising our stay and to Ian who pointed us in the direction of Horsey Gap and the privilege of seeing more than 1,000 seals and their pups on the beach. I very much look forward to bring my tour to this hotel. Thank you.

We stayed here over the weekend as we were here to visit friends. Lovely little hotel with great friendly staff! Delicious breakfast and lovely room, hotel looked like it might have recently received a makeover? Great location with surrounding pubs/restaurants!

Stayed here for two nights during a business trip. The bedroom was clean and comfortable, had a good size bed in the room, nice modern bathroom. Good parking facilities on site. Excellent location, close walk to town centre and drive to the hospital. Plenty of places to eat and drink within the town centre. Staff were excellent and helpful. Breakfast buffet was good, plenty of choice and some food cooked items were available to order. I would stay here again as overall it is a lovely hotel and a great night's sleep.

Wonderful stay in the King George Suite- the pictures don't do it justice, it's huge! The freestanding bath is amazing. Everything really clean and well done. Receptionist was lovely. Only thing I will say is that the towels were quite small. Apart from that it was PERFECT! Thank you.

A lovely little gem of a hotel, great location, comfortable, modern & clean rooms, very nice staff, lovely bar & restaurant area. Breakfast was lovely and served fresh / hot not a buffet style as many hotels have these days

Immaculately clean, comfortable bed, great shower and friendly welcome. We were in one of the four annex rooms which were very quiet. Good breakfast. We did not eat in the restaurant but the menu looked good. It was a comfortable 15 minute stroll into the city centre or there are plenty of buses at £1.60 one way. Plenty of on site parking and we were able to leave the car there after the check out time.

Nice hotel with clean rooms. No lifts to higher floors (3 storey hotel) so carrying large luggage up the stairs might be difficult for some. Breakfast was good with fast service. 15 minute walk from Norwich centre.

No trouble in parking in the grounds. Reception was efficient when we checked-in but the desk was not always manned. It was Valentines Day and we chose to eat out instead of two men ordering off a special Valentines menu. The number of eaters suggested that all was well in the kitchen. I was with my 20 year old grandson providing transport so he could research into documents to help with his thesis and had booked a twin bed room. It was large as was the bathroom and thoroughly satisfactory in cleanliness, comfort and facilities. Breakfast was a choice from individually food cooked, or cold buffet. Perfectly satisfactory. We just felt that the staff were a bit stretched and that warm arm round the shoulder that goes with excellent wasn't there.

Arrived in the evening, plenty of parking, check in was speedy, restaurant food was extremely good, breakfast very good comfy bed, warm room, good size tv, WiFi very good, quiet location, speedy checkout,

excellent newly refurbished hotel within walking distance of city centre. plently of free car parking. staff were friendly if a little harassed due to lack of numbers, but maintained excellent customer service we only used as a base for sleeping, the room was clean a spacious, the bed comfortable and plenty of hot water what more do u need. breakfast was as promised and good ….would recommend the pancakes. definately stay again if i need a hotel in the city

44 Queens and Vice Queens attend a very lovely lunch today 1st March 2019. That consisted of three lovely well cooked courses of soup, melon, baked mushrooms. Beef, Chicken, cod and mushroom stroganoff. Vanilla cheesecake, fresh fruit salad and candid bread and butter pudding with custard (to die for! ).Tea and Coffee. All the food was very well cooked, hot, very tender, lots of it and well presented .Also a very reasonable price of good quality. The staff were very welcoming, attentive and friendly. Thank you.

I stayed here for one night on business and ate in the restaurant. The George Hotel is easy to find and on one of the main arterial routes into Norwich. Parking is good and I was able to leave my car there all of the following day and walk into town where I was working (about a mile). There was no charge for this. The staff were friendly and welcoming. My allocated room, unfortunately, smelled of cigarette smoke and I was offered another room without hesitation. The hotel has had a significant makeover and the room I had (the second one) seemed well-equipped and furnished. Everything worked and the bed was comfortable. I was fairly late into the restaurant but the staff could not have been more helpful. My food was served promptly but unhurried and was very good. They had a reasonable selection of wines and some nice ales. Breakfast was good, cooked to order and, again, served by helpful friendly staff. I would, and probably will, stay here again when visiting or working in the area.

We had a 2 night stay to visit our daughter at uni. Great location 15 mins walk into the centre, rooms looked like they had recently had a revamp but did not smell like it. It smelt damp and when looking closer there was black near the skirting board under the window. No fan in the bathroom which has made some of the paint start to peel off. Fittings in the bathroom not great quality but functional. Beds were firm but comfy. If we returned it would only be if not on the ground floor. Staff were very good and breakfast was very good. Parking was fine had no problems.

The best thing about this hotel is definitely the attitude of all of the staff. From reception, to the bar, to room service, to those serving breakfast, they were always enthusiastic, friendly, polite and efficient. My room was clean and comfortable, a little too small, but I believe the smallest in the hotel, so that's what you get when you get an especially cheap price. The breakfast food was good quality bacon, sausage, mushrooms and eggs, served attentively in a comfortable and pleasant environment. It would have been great to have a little more choice re ham, cheese, fruit and pastries for the buffet, as there were only one of each. The quality of the restaurant food served via room service was probably the only disappointment. My steak was well done rather than medium well as ordered and the food as a whole wasn't especially tasty or appetisingly plated (the chips though were very nice!). Room service was quick, as was serving of breakfast. It was easy to park and check-in. The hotel is a little noisy, with corridor noise, a rattling air convector in the bathroom and traffic noise from the adjacent car park. The location is good, a short walk into the city. Overall a pleasant, smooth stay in comfortable surroundings with very friendly and efficient staff.

Located close to town, easy to find and on site parking, this is a clean and friendly hotel, checking in was good even though we were early and wanted our rooms close to each other, which they did not get the info for and I had asked when booking. The member of staff duly obliged. The rooms are an ok size rooms, one single and one double, nothing inspiring but clean and well presented. The bar is good and not pricey for a hotel, with some good attentive staff. Cooked English Breakfast again good and decent coffee to accompany it. Only down side is the coffee machine in the room would not work and a fire exit was wedged open which is against fire regs when we arrived. Minors in the scheme of things, definitely stay there again

This luxurious hotel is a great place to stay if you are a woman on her own. The rooms are beautifully appointed, very clean with easy access rooms available. As a single woman I have found the staff to be very friendly, helpful and very skilled at making you feel extra special as nothing is too much trouble. I highly recommend this hotel for the solo traveller either for business or holiday stay. The Al a Carte menu has a fantastic choice as does the all day menu.

Service excellent from start to finish. Breakfast and dinner both had a good range of options, quality ingredients well prepared and in decent sized servings, very good value for money. We ate in a well known restaurant the second evening - we should have eaten with you again!

Stayed recently on business. Got there very early but checked in by very pleasant reception staff. Got room on the ground floor - which could only be described as poky - but it was well decorated and clean. Biggest problem was the heating in appallingly cold weather - very inadequate heating in the room. Pleasant bar and bar staff and bar food basic but well cooked and again served by great staff. Would stay there again if they sorted the heating out,

Arrived to find a wonderfully warm, modern, eveything you need room, for a perfect stay in a delightful cottage that was just for us. A very pet friendly hotel. Every one of the staff were helpful, and really welcoming from the outset, each person had a plethora of information at hand. Nothing was too much trouble. Sophisticated, modern, very clean, and we shall defintely be returning!!! Highly recommended. We highly recommend this hote.l

We arrived in the sleet. We had a warm welcome. The rooms are lovely, warm and comfortable. We had a lovely breakfast and found all the staff very friendly. Would definitely return. The rooms had everything, including a coffee machine which was most welcome.

I travel a lot. And stay in a lot of hotels. From the moment I arrived, I was made to feel welcome. Not superficially welcome...really welcome. Friendly staff who obviously care a great deal about what they do. The attention to detail is clear throughout. A recent refurb has delivered a gem of a resource for Norwich. I'd use this for a romantic break, a business stay or a holiday. I can not recommend the George too highly. Enjoy your stay!!

Lovely hotel - good price - immaculate room. All areas clean and modern - great service from everyone. Breakfast was ok not the best cooked breakfast I've had but still very nice - fruit/pastries etc all lovely - about 15 min walk into Norwich and taxi in at night was £8 - definitely recommend.

My room was immaculately clean. All common areas were very nicely presented and decorated. The staff were very attentive. Location was good. Short walk to town centre. Ample parking and very good WiFi access.

A one night stay to visit Norwich and catch up with Uni student. Found generally prices reasonably high but it is a city centre and rate included breakfast. Good location, walk to town but away from night noise

We needed to stay in Norwich for just one night to visit our daughter whom is at NUA. I was encouraged by other reviewers feedback and I am so pleased to say that we all enjoyed our stay here. We had the standard family room which accommodated ourselves and our 12 year old son. Room/bathroom was clean and presented beautifully and although it was not a huge room it had plenty of wardrobe space and drawers to put your things. It is a short walk into Norwich and ideal for anyone who wanted to visit the Theatre Royal. We only had breakfast (fabulous) at the hotel as we had already made plans for our evening meal but next time we visit we will definitely take advantage of the evening menu. If you are Vegan or need a gluten free menu they have plenty of choice for you. They also do a standard formal dining menu as well as a more relaxed bar menu. The staff are welcoming and very efficent and friendly. All in all we had a lovely stay in Norwich and this hotel makes for relaxing base for a busy city break.

Stayed here to meet a customer for dinner. The hotel has obviously been refurbished fairly recently, with smart modern decor throughout the public spaces, and the same colour scheme in the rooms. Being honest, the room was on the ‘bijou' side, but the bed was comfortable, and the WiFi was decent enough to cope with a Skype call. Soundproofing was a bit of an issue - I could hear what was going on in a room across the corridor, and any doors opening or closing seemed to echo in the room a bit. The food in the main restaurant was very good quality - and surprisingly good value. Would definitely return and be happy taking a customer to dinner here. But the main attraction has to be the staff. From the first moment I walked in, to the very last checking out, every member of staff was happy, polite and were very good at engaging with guests. Whoever is responsible for the staff training has done a very good job!

We should have stayed at this hotel in October 2018, but following family illness, and two cancellations, the hotel were brilliant as they allowed us to alter dates at no extra cost. When we eventually got there for our 2 night stay, we were not disappointed. We stayed in room 211, (which I would not recommend to anyone approx 6ft tall, due to low beams, or to anyone who struggles with stairs), otherwise it was great for us, well equipped, extremely clean and made a mockery of its 3* grading. The whole staff were very helpful and friendly, creating a family based atmosphere. Real cask ales are served in the bar, at good price. The food served at the hotel is excellent and competitively priced against local restaurants. Hotel is approx 10mins brisk walk from city centre. If I were to stay in Norwich again, I would not even consider looking at any other hotel.

Great service for the last two days a family meal a celebration after my brother funeral and then a meal again in the evening. Everyone went out of their way to help us. We didn't stay in a room but embers of the family did and they couldn't recommend it highly enough. Thank you to all involved

What an amazing hotel The George is! Wonderful friendly helpful staff. Amazing room for us and our fur babies. Fantastic food... what more could you ask for? Simply brilliant. We visited last year and loved the hotel then so were thrilled to return and see the recent decor upgrade that has taken place.

What a fresh new look the hotel now has, with a lovely mix of colour in what was a very dated bar and restaurant. Now new comfortable furnishings have given public areas a modern twist in what is still a traditional hotel. The dining is now informal but the service is top notch we ate both nights during our stay and all our meals were beautifully cooked and very well presented. We stayed in room 211 on the top floor, all rooms now have air conditioning as do all the public areas. The bathroom was absolutely amazing the bedroom had a super king size bed which was very comfortable, our only queries would be that the booking agency described the room as a suite but we could not find a designated area with easy chairs or settee which seemed a bit strange.. However that did not spoil our stay as we had a tight schedule and we found ourselves quite busy. All I can say is the George Hotel is now looking well placed for a bright future with Julie at the helm.

Fresh from a stylish makeover, The George Hotel in Norwich proved the perfect base to spend a few days exploring a fascinating city and its surroundings. With plenty of parking space (included along with freshly cooked breakfast in the hotel's very reasonable half-board rates) The George sits in one of the more elegant areas of Norwich, far enough off the A11 Newmarket Road to be quiet at night yet a comfortable 20 minute stroll from the busy city centre. Our bedroom was small but perfectly formed; quickly warmed by a quiet wall heater (with mercifully simple controls) and enjoying a big shower with, again, easily understood operation. That we chose to eat dinner at the hotel on each night of our stay means the menu was both well priced and tempting; with nothing too adventurous on offer but with mains portions big enough to make pudding simply a dream. The George's staff were universally happy to help and felt like a team who knew they were part of helping a grand old lady feel young again.

Nice little hotel just outside Norwich, 10 minute walk into town which is why we chose it so no parking worries. Rooms a little small but comfortable, the only downside was load saniflow systems and thin walls. Apart from that all was good and breakfast very nice.

Overnight stay with a coach party. Warm welcome and friendly atmosphere at this refurbished hotel. Staff very helpful, comfortable rooms and great meal choice served efficiently to a group of 48 visiting Thursford Christmas Spectacular. No qualms about returning next year.

Certainly the three last reviews said it all, as near as you can get to the perfect stay. The hotel looking in really good shape, our room gave us plenty of space and was exactly as it should be, our bed was firm and provided a really good nights sleep. In the restaurant our evening meal was spot on and the breakfast menu unbelievable.Service in all areas is swift and polite and given with a smile, in all this hotel has real character and is a gem.

Have stayed here before prior to the hotel having received a full refurb so we were looking forward to returning. From the moment we entered the car park we could see we wouldn't be disappointed. What a difference, it almost felt like we had pulled into a different hotel. The reception area and restaurant have also been refurbed with the rooms also benefitting from some good tlc. The breakfast was great and receptionist very friendly. Would certainly recommend to anyone looking to stay in Norwich.

50 years (gasp) after starting at UEA, our group met at The George as part of our weekend of celebration. Buffet lunch for 35 in a pleasing setting with friendly and unobtrusive service. Nice bar too! Just what the occasion needed. The George is conveniently located a little outside Norwich City centre...walkable, or by bus....or free car parking.

we stayed for only one night at the Best Western George hotel. it was centrally located and very pleasant. The spacious and very nicely designed room was the highlight of our stay. We come to Norwich a few times a year and this has been the best option for us as a place to stay so far. We will definitely choose to come again.

This charming hotel goes from strength to strength, it's a joy and pleasure to stay at this friendly welcoming hotel. The rooms are very well appointed and the restaurant has a wide ranging menu to suit every taste. The staff are all beyond fabulous, nothing is too much trouble and they work as a magnificent team. I highly recommend this hotel, and will be staying there again soon.

This was our 3rd visit to this gem of a hotel and we were lucky enough to stay in the garden suite which we didn't even know existed ! It has a lounge, kitchen, bathroom and bunk bed bedroom on the ground floor and a very spacious bedroom upstairs and it's own private decking area outside. Our visit on this occasion was to celebrate my husband's birthday and it was a lovely treat. I can't fault this hotel - the staff are all friendly and efficient and the bar and bistro very inviting, Alistair the barman always remembers us. The parking is plentiful and it is a short walk into town. Looking forward to our next visit.

I really enjoyed staying in the George Hotel off Arlington Lane. My room was a bit small but very comfortable. Proper hi-lux for an overnighter but maybe a bit too small for a longer stay in the downstairs rooms joining the front and side car-parks. Nevertheless, the staff were very friendly (apart from one bad-mooder on a couple of mornings [but not rude]) and the breakfasts generous and very tasty. Safe parking. A good walk to the city centre but enjoyable. Excellent pubs down the road (Eaton Cottage and Unthank Arms). Avoid Mount Pleasant at rush hour - quiet road but a busy run and easy to jam. I hope to return.

The George is very convenient for the City centre being a 10 minute walk. It has comfortable, well maintained rooms. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast is excellent with a good choice and has waitress service for cooked items. Parking is good too. All in all it was just right.

A very nice hotel tucked away from the main road leading into Norwich City centre. Although all the staff were very friendly and polite, Alister stood out as being so professional and enthusiastic in his approach to working at The George, and was keen to express his enjoyment in working for the management/owners of the hotel. The hotel is clean and well decorated throughout. The choice of food from the menu in the restaurant was excellent, and not overly expensive for hotel dining. Some rooms did experience the loss of WiFi over the weekend, but was being addressed the the hotel staff. Should we visit Norwich again, the Best Western George Hotel is a place we aim to stay at again.

Hotel looks fine and staff are friendly. Room 14 was tiny and had paint peeling off the walls. Also had lack of parking even though I rang and checked before I booked so I had to park in a residents only area up the road as directed by the staff. This meant I had to be out before 8am to move car.

The whole hotel has had a refurb and it looks amazing. From the moment you walk through the door of the hotel it has the wow factor. Our room was lovely. A lovely big bath and bed. The breakfast was the best breakfast I have had in a hotel for a long time and the staff in reception and in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful. 5 stars all round. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to stay within walking distance of the town centre.

This hotel staff were so welcoming , the hotel was warm and friendly and the food, well our compliments to the chef. My only criticism is our stay went too fast and we had to come home. Stayed for one night on business. Room was small but perfect size for one person for one night. Restaurant area casual and homely, felt much more comfortable eating on own then in larger hotel. Gluten free menu which is great. Parking available and 5 minute walk into Norwich. Noises in corridor only complaint. But this was minor as a small hotel wasn't too many people going up and down corridor

What a lovely atmosphere this nice little hotel has! from an informal family meal to a formal dinner treat this place along with it's very friendly staff will tick all the boxes. After a few visits to this wonderful place we changed our already made plans and moved our wedding reception to this venue and we are so glad we did! There was not one of our 30+ guests that came that didn't compliment us on our choice of venue and all aspects of the day which we were helped by the Georges brilliant team of staff. If your in Norwich and want a nice quite getaway just 5 mins by taxi from the hustle and bustle of the city centre then this is the best place to go in our opinion....

A group of us from around the country stayed at this hotel recently. From start to finish the service was friendly, professional and enthusiastic. We couldn't fault the staff in any way- especially the young man who was on the desk when we arrived, was later behind the bar and in the restaurant in the morning- sadly we forgot to get his name, but he was incredibly cheerful and helpful. The hotel is handy for the city and the rooms were comfortable modern and clean.

Small comfortable hotel with attentive staff, enjoyable evening meal and excellent choice of real ale and single malt. Handy for city centre, five minutes to local amenities. Pristine bathroom and comfortable bed contributed to a pleasant stay.

The staff were happy for us to leaving the car in the hotel carpark after we had checked out as we wanted to spend a few hours in the city. We have stayed at this hotel a number of times and are always pleased with the accommodation and facilities.

Really pleased with our choice for a Saturday night stop over in Norwich. We thought we might need taxis into the centre but actually the walk wasn't far at all. The hotel is stylishly decorated, bedrooms fairly small but comfortable and the breakfast delicious.

Midweek stay in a lovely hotel on the outskirts of Norwich. Staff were excellent - friendly, professional and efficient. Plenty parking and easy to find. Route to the room was a little convoluted, but it's an old building on lots of levels (literally). My room was light and airy with a double (king size?) and a single bed, a desk, a TV and tea and coffee facilities. Nice big bathroom but no fridge in the room. Ice in the sink for the beer then.... Really strong air con. To the restaurant / bistro / bar. it does all three. And breakfast in the morning. Great staff. Very professional. Thanks guys - you got it just right. Dinner was lovely. I just had an omelette and some chips (great chips) and it came with a really good salad. Breakfast was great as well. I think the hotel GM has a great approach - she seems to support the team and be a role model. I saw you at breakfast making sure everything was just right! Well worth it if you're in the area

I stayed here last night for work as meetings in Norwich Its easy to find and decent amount of parking. Very warm welcome at reception. All staff are brilliant actually and friendly. But, my room wasn't great. Two tiny windows, no air con and no fan. I was also continually disturbed by noise from slamming doors, and noise everwhere. Also people smoking outside meant a strong smell of smoke in my room. No other rooms were available and no fans available. Yes, it was a single but it was an executive room. I don't know what makes it executive tbh. But standard double rooms have air con as do double executive rooms. I think if I was in another room, I'd have had decent sleep and would have given 4/5.

Our group stayed at this wonderful hotel last Saturday night, I stayed in one of the cottages and it was stunning, gorgeous rainfall shower and comfy bed. Lovely staff and it was such a lovely surprise as we wasn't expecting such a nice place to stay

Had a whistle stop at this hotel and found it quite pleasant with a lovely alfresco dining area. Rooms were good and the free wifi was also just as good so no complaints. Would stop here again on my next visit to Norwich.

From the moment we arrived it was lovely. We received a lovely warm welcome. The staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. We ate afternoon tea, breakfast and a 3 course lunch and the food was faultless. There was so much choice. We had the honeymoon suite for the evening and again amazing, Immaculately clean. There is not a bad thing I can say about this hotel. The atmosphere was so welcoming we will most certainly be back again.

From arrival to departure the staff here delivered exceptional customer service. We were amazed at the multi-tasking abilities Molly and Ian dispalayed throughout our stay and their genuine interest in our comfort whilst we stayed in this hotel made our stay enjoyable and memorable. Our room was tastefully decorated with very good air conditioning and when we were unable to sleep at Midnight due to a crying baby next door Ian did not hesitate in moving us to a quieter room even though he was left to clean our room and change the sheets etc in case further guests showed up later on in the evening. Room service was excellent and breakfast was ample and we left feeling very rested and happy so we will definitely use this hotel again. Parking was plentiful and the hotel was only 8 minutes from the main A11 to London. Best Western should be proud to have teammembers such as Ian and Molly on board. They are a credit to the company.

We stayed at the George for a night to break up a longer journey and were pleasantly surprised by the excellent customer service and by the quality of the room. We travelled with our two dogs who were made to feel very welcome too. To me it is the small things that distinguish a good hotel from an excellent one. For example, we had a couple of drinks in the bar after arriving and the bar staff asked immediately if we wanted a bowl of water for the dogs. Also we asked to leave the car in the carpark for a few hours the next day, which was no problem, and so allowed us to visit the city without having to drive in and park. This coupled with friendly and welcoming staff and great rooms impressed us and we'd love to stay again if we are in the area.

Been to Norwich a few times and looking for something just close enough to town but as a quiet retreat for the evening. BINGO!! Thoroughly recommend this hotel..refurbishment 10/10. Bar service was flawless thanks to Ian and his staff..would suggest including the breakfast as a great start to the day. All staff from housekeeping to the general manager were equally approachable and more than happy to welcome any/all feedback. Food was excellent value would totally recommend the tempura prawns!! DELICIOUS!! Keep up the great work and our thanks to all staff for their great work!!

I recently stayed here as was visiting a friend in Norwich, and can thoroughly recommend it. My room was small but perfect, with lovely bathroom. The staff were exceptional, especially when I locked myself out of my room. Grateful thanks to the manager and lovely guy from the bar who couldn't have been nicer.

As a single lady the hotel was perfect for me. Well appointed and stocked room, perfect bathroom, and very comfortable bed. It was like being nurtured and cared for by warm, friendly and fabulous staff. The facilities are perfect, dining is a real treat with a fabulous menu plus snacks available all day. Friends who visited were also very impressed, the disabled facilities were greatly appreciated. I have already booked to return to this great, stylish hotel.

I'm here in Norwich on business for a year and was staying in a horrific hotel until i found this little gem! The Best Westerns vary so much in quality but here of the rooms are newly refurbished, clean, well appointed and very comfortable.They even have hairdryers with sockets near a mirror. Hats off to the chef- the food is superb and such good value for money. Everything is freshly cooked- no ping food. And best of all, the staff all seem happy, the service is excellent, they can't do enough for you- It's not often you hear staff praising the owners and management- but they do here. Jodi especially is a star, nothing is too much bother and if i still worked in hospitality i would do my best to poach her!

Just had a nice couple of nights here whilst working at the Norfolk Show ground, lovely setting just off main road into town which is just a 12min walk, set in the more upmarket area of Norwich the hotel offers good parking, staff are welcoming nothing too much trouble, food was excellent with varied menu to cater for all tastes, room was well maintained, clean and comfortable, little disappointed there were no ironing facility in the room but Im getting used to asking for them these days. Breakfast was excellent again a good choice of continental, full english with both haddock & mackerel on offer, great value good choice of beer wines and spirits all within a nice tranquil bar setting, overall a nice fairly modern hotel catering for singles, couples or families and also groups.

We stayed in the George the night before a graduation ceremony. the staff were welcoming and the rooms seemed newly decorated and very comfortable. Spacious bathrooms (we stayed in the 'Cottages'). We also ate in the hotel and I enjoyed a very palatable fish and chips. Prices reasonable.

Staff here are amazing, really made us and our 2 dogs welcome. Our room was opposite main hotel and easy to unpack and great for dogs. Room recently refurbished and excellent standard for pet friendly room. Breakfast was gorgeous. Hopefully be back again one day.

Stayed here with my two sons before visiting the Lotus factory made to feel very welcome very comfortable and clean, food was superb we highly recommend.Exceptionally comfortable beds and the breakfast was spot-on

I had an issue with the Bathroom as there was a glass screen and when you open it up to get access to the bathing area you cannot do so as it clashes with the sink area this needs to be address as it is of no use, why have the glass screen in there if you cannot open it up properly

We were due in Norwich to celebrate my brothers birthday and decided to stay here as it was close to the pub that his celebrations were at. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were made to feel welcome. We had two double rooms and a single, the doubles had air conditioning, but the single did not, but a quick chat with someone on reception and a fan was supplied. The rooms were lovely, spacious and the beds were comfortable, my partner loved the pillows so much he wanted to take them home!! We went to the restaurant area to watch the football and the gentleman serving is a credit to the company, nothing was too much trouble for him. We all slept very well and the shower in the morning was very invigorating, a bit too much for my slightly worse for wear partner ?? When we return to Norwich we will absolutely stay again at this hotel.

Very clean, lovely neautral decor, quiet, lovely quiet bar/restaurant, the cooked breakfast was lovely and hot and didn't have to wait long. outside eating,/drinking area, friendly welcoming helpful staff. Very pleasant Hotel a short 20 minute walk away from Norwich city centre. We were allocated a 'Cottage', which was a large comfortable room in one storey building. It had been recently refurbished and room and bathroom were bright and clean. Plenty of Car parking on site. Staff friendly and efficient. No time to try out the food, but Room was great.

First of all, easy to get to and also close to the city but still feels out of the way and secluded. I was upgraded to what was basically a two-floor cottage and one of the best places I have stayed in any hotel around the country. Perfect air con (in 30-degree heat!), spacious, comfortable, large TV in the lounge and another in the bedroom - quiet overnight so a great night's sleep.... The upgrade is not why I will stay again though, that is just a great one off..... From the moment I arrived all the staff and managers were extremely welcoming, seemed genie more than corporate and were efficient and professional at every single contact - perfect! The food in the restaurant could not be faulted and we served very quickly. The prices were less than I would expect for the quality. So, all in all, a very satisfied customer here - thank you to the whole team for making my busy week a lot more enjoyable!

A coach load arrived and were immediately booked in and luggage taken to their rooms, which were very comfortable, they had all been updated. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom spacious, towels changed ever day.All staff were friendly and helpful. The bar staff served in our private dinning room as well. I could not fail to recognise their,friendly and professional approach.

From start to finish this was such a great place to stay! We arrived and were swiftly checked in by a friendly receptionist. Our room was a good size and decorated beautifully. It was well equipped with a tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was a good size and the shower was lovely and powerful. It was very clean all over. The bistro was appealing and the gloriously yummy! The service was great. We plan a return visit to the bistro with other family members. You honestly couldn't stay anywhere else in Norwich for this price and quality! A must book!

great hotel location, nicely appointed, friendly staff and very clean. i was making a quickfire visit to see 'henry rollins' speak at the local university, used this place as an emergency booking and was very pleased to find what a nice hotel this is.

Excellent hotel. Recently updated. New bathrooms, comfortable beds, clean and recently decorated, helpful staff who dealt with all request promptly. I came with a group and enjoyed sitting in our own dining room at meal times so we could enjoy each other's company. The meal selection each day was excellent although restricted , which was understandable, due to us benefiting from party rates. I have special diet needs and I was impressed that each day the chef had prepared the menu choices specially for me taking out ingredients I am allergic to. Generally I am not used to such care in menu preparation. An excellent stay

Stayed for 1 night and wish it was longer. We were greeted at reception by a very polite receptionist. We stayed in the attic room which was a very spacious suite - beautifully decorated and extremely quiet and comfortable.Lovely big bathroom with roll top bath and walk in shower. It's location was perfect on a quiet street but only 15 min walk into the city. Breakfast was very nice - help yourself buffet plus cooked to order full English again the staff were very pleasant. We stay in Norwich on a regular basis and this is the first time we have stayed here but The George will now be our number one choice.

Nice hotel fairly recently refurbished by the look of it. Found it eventually after driving past once because from the road you can't see the name “The George”, it says Arlington. Sineage needs looking at. The staff at this hotel are very good. Reception, friendly. A big shout out to Alastair who served us at dinner, an exceptionally good waiter. Sharing a room with my daughter we wanted a twin bed room. It was clean, tidy, basic. The pillows were, in my daughter's words, like bullets, really hard, but after a very long journey we were too tired to go to reception and ask if they had replacements. We invited guests to dinner, the meal was very good. Then joined by others for drinks we were very well looked after by Alistair. Lovely meal, beautifully cooked, very pleasant evening. Breakfast. We chose the full English. It was ok. We could see they were busy so didnt mind waiting. The complaint we have is being given crockery from someone else's table. Granted, the cups, saucers, cutlery had not been used (we hope) , but really, once guests have been sitting at a table you clear the lot and relay with clean crockery! You don't pass what's unused to another table surely? Someone could have handled it if not used it. We didn't like our cups, saucers etc passed to us from the table opposite.

Visited the George hotel for a few birthday drinks. All staff were warm and welcoming but i was served by a lovely young man Alistair, he was very warm and welcoming and is a asset to the George hotel team, had a great night. Didn't stay at the hotel this time but will be returning to stay soon. Thankyou for your fantastic service!

41 of us stayed at Best Western George Hotel in Norwich. The staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. Meals served with a smile and very tasty. Thank you to the Staff of George Hotel for making our stay so pleasant.
