« Super good location, good restaurants, excellent service, friendly employee, better insight tham the outside look »

Definitely we will repite this hotel. Fells like in house. Good location, safe end near to subway and important places to visit. We spend Thanksgiving in NY and was a best option online, and once there, everything was better

    « Nice stay »

Cons: I requested a quiet room when booking, but they gave me a room on 2nd floor that heard the noise from road traffic the whole night. Pros: The front desk staff Stanley is very nice and helpful, although he might look a bit serious at the beginning. Location of the hotel is very good, close to 2 subway stations and good Chinese cuisine.

    « Go somewhere else »

I was on a business trip and spent 7 nights in this hotel. I got a completely wrong invoice, but needed a correct one for my company in order to get my money back. So I asked for a revision. Front desk staff and management completely ignored my request and did not care about my problem. Hotels like this - without any customer focus - should be avoided. There are much better alternatives in NYC.

    « Great affordable NY »

The hotel is well located for easy subway connections. The Grand St. Station is just a long block away. Breakfast is reliable and good (Best Western style). Dining room is small and at peak times finding a place to sit can be a challenge. Popular with families - expect noisy kids. The rooms are spacious enough for the price, updated and quite comfortable with large bathrooms. Ask for a room away from the street above the patio - for noise control. Our queen bed room was perfect. AC works and is no more noisy than usual. WiFi is excellent. All is very clean. Staff is quite friendly, willing to help, and does their job well. For NYC this hotel represents excellent value.

« A great place to stay in a great location »

We had a fabulous stay at this hotel. The location is great, sitting between Little Italy and China Town you are amongst the hustle and bustle of everyday life of New Yorkers with a good selection of restaurants and shops within easy walking distance of a few minutes. The underground system is a three minute walk away for transport to the iconic sites which the city has to offer. The hotel itself has fantastic staff on reception who are just so obliging, they make the stay seem special and are a good source of advice for tourists. The rooms we had (two) were large, very clean and very comfortable. The buffet style breakfast is adequate and the breakfast area a little austere. There is a convenient business centre comprising internet access and printer, ideal for checking in and printing boarding passes. Reception will store your luggage if you have a late flight and checkout leaves you with time on your hands. Overall this was a very good experience and I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a short break in the city.

    « Staff is outstanding »

An excellent value alternative in NYC. Chinatown may deter many from considering it, but once inside, the hotel is worth what you pay for it. Staff is clearly the main reason for a very pleasant stay.

    « Thank You »

I love staying here for business travel. It is close to my office in Soho and the staff is great! The Front Desk Coordinator, Lisa, is the best. I look forward to seeing her every visit. She remembers my name and always has a smile. Thank you!

« Ideal Location, Friendly Staff »

Wonderful welcome, all the friendly staff works as a team to provide very impressive quality of services. Quick check-in & check-out. Excellent centralized location. You can easily walk to Bowery station to connect to any corner of NYC. Little Italy is next street. The hotel room size is acceptable, just to relax, after each day of exploring New York. On the other hand, complimentary water bottles should be given at least once. After a long journey, I expect to have drinking water in my room. The complimentary breakfast choices could be a bit more of variety of food. Overall, my experience at this hotel has been very good.

    3
    « Good price-performance »

This is an average hotel with large rooms, dated though. Just be aware that rooms x01 are small and close to elevators, which can disturb you during the night. Breakfast is average with hot food, bread, muffins, yogurt, bananas, apples, waffles and juice, however space is limitted and during the winter, without the possibility of using the outside area, it is impossible to fit all the guests. Location is perfect, Close to all good restaurants of Soho, Litle Italy, and steps from subway stations. Also pretty close to Brooklyn.

« The Best New York Has to Offer »

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Frick, Chinatown, Little Italy, some of the best food in the world. These wonderful experiences and many more are offered every day in one of the most exciting cities in the world. While visiting NYC you should be able to stay at a hotel that takes cares of all the creature comforts so you can run around the city carefree. The Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel on Grand Street does the job reasonably well. The rooms are fairly large and comfortable. The showers are fairly strong and the stall is large enough for two. The breakfast is quite nice with good coffee and a tasty assortment of fresh muffins, bagels, breads for toasting, a make your own waffle station, hot and cold cereals, eggs and bacon or sausage, juices, fresh fruit, milk and other goodies. Everything a body needs to get going in NYC. The staff is friendly and helpful and the location is smack in the middle of Chinatown and Little Italy. Wonderful! I have stayed in many Best Western hotels in many cities over the years. Some are great, some are not. This hotel would be great if it would take care of a few little problems: 1. The closet in the room smells like dirty feet. Shoot some Febreze in there occasionally. I would love to hang up my clothes. 2. Swiffer the floors when making up the room EVERYDAY! C'mom guys. It takes 5 minutes and I would not have to brush my feet off every time I got into bed. 3. Why are you throwing my extra pillows on top of the closet? I can't reach them and when I tried to pull them down, the dust came down with it. 4. No hot water for hours on the second day of my stay! You've got to be kidding. No shower. No shave for my husband. (He was very grumpy.) We were told that a water main broke but then, we should have had no water at all. Looked up "water main break" on Dept. of Public Works website for that day in that area. No report of any break. Get a bigger water heater guys. The supply is not keeping up with the demand. I would stay here again. It is comfortable and it is in a great part of town. Upon checkout I talked with the operations manager about my concerns and was told I would receive an email within 48 hours with some sort of compensation. I'll be waiting, Lyn.

    « Great Location »

Depending what you are doing in NYC, that hotel had really served my purpose. Room is clean, bathroom is decent, and WiFi works perfect. Breakfast gets busy, better go early or later, avoid 8-9. If you love Chinese food, I would go outside, minutes to Chinese breakfast, bakery everywhere. Staff are very efficient and helpful. Be careful when booking your room, they are full constantly and changing from queen to twin or vice versa will be difficult. Rooms have street noise, don't go there if you want a quiet fancy hotel room.

    3
« Not my first choice »

This Hotel was basic, it was clean, the hotel staff very friendly and the location was close enough to walk to NYU which was important to me. The Hotel came with a free hot breakfast which I thought was barely edible. But there was cereal, baked goods and fruit too. The furniture was beat up looking but functional and that's what mattered most since all the hotels in Manhattan that week were booked in the $300 dollar range. If you need a safe and clean place for the night in Manhattan, this is a decent choice.

« First time in New York »

My first time in New York City with my family and the Hotel was great big enough room even though New York isnt a quiet city the room muffled most of the noise easy walking to areas friendly staff and helpful. Easy walk to the subway.

    4
    « It was good »

Nice and clean hotel in a pretty busy Chinese area. They serve regular breakfast - nothing special, just waffles, yogurts, fruits, eggs etc. It was a good stay, but next time I would prefer to keep away of Chinese block :).

    1
    « Disappointed »

The day I arrived, bed linens were wrinkled and smelled so bad that makes you wonder if they had changed them. The room was above the boilers or heating room so there was a constant noise day and night Housekeeping room was acroos the hall and they started making noise at 6:30 Breakfast was crowded , coffee is bad Only good thing are the guys at front desk very nice

    3
« Not worth the price »

Located on the 2nd floor and above of a building in China town area, definitely not worth the 485 USD I paid for a night. The room was small, basic and bathroom was clean enough. There was no view from the window. Both the telephones in my room didn't work and the staff didn't offer to have it fixed. They were not friendly or pleasant. Is it a new york attitude? The breakfast is basic - cereal, fruit, cooked eggs and a waffle maker to maker your own. Disposable plates and plastic cutlery. I wouldn't stay here again

« September in New York City »

New York City in September is a great time to visit. You may get some light rain but more importantly it won't be too hot and muggy which make subway wait times a little uncomfortable. A light jacket/sweater is all you'd need but def bring a little pop up umbrella just in case. This trip was mainly for my parents to visit their granddaughter. Therefore I looked for a hotel in a location that was close proximity to amenities for first time New York City visitors. We're not fancy travellers and can get by on average hotels as long as they're clean and have friendly staff. Bowery Hanbee Best Western staff were great. The room we got was a suite (902). From the looks of the hotel map we got the biggest room in the hotel. There's a small gym on the 10th floor for those who didn't get enough walking from their day. There's a breakfast buffet that'll satisfy most travellers needs. Waffle maker, eggs usually scrambled and one meat item such as ham or sausage. Fresh fruits, cereal, variety of small pastries, bagel, yogurt and of course coffee and a choice of juices. Not bad since this is all included as part of your stay. Subway stations are all within a few blocks away. When you get to a subway station take a picture on your phone of the map and don't forget to remember whether you're going uptown or downtown from your location. This can get confusing at first but eventually you'll have figured it out and will move through the turnstiles like a local. Be sure to buy a week subway pass if you're in NYC for at least a week. This area is in between Little Italy and Chinatown. So, you're in luck if you like cultural diversity. Next to staying in Queens I would say this area is pretty good. You like shopping ? Only a few blocks away is Broadway. You'll find enough shops to satisfy your wants. You like even fancier boutique shops. Mercer, Greene and Wooster are just passed Broadway. The Williamsburgh Bridge isn't too far away and also the famous Brooklyn bridge. You'll no doubt want to walk across the latter. It'll be on your intinerary for sure. You can also take the subway from the hotel. Citi bikes have a row of bikes right in front of the hotel. This is a very cool way to explore the city since there are many bike stations that you can just pick up or drop off these units. There'll be an endless list of great and not so great restaurants nearby. As well as quaint cafes and pubs. Don't forget to visit Brooklyn. More walking around and enriching your visit of the Big Apple. Uptown areas such as Park ave, Madison, Central Park are also a must to go and see. Enjoy your stay in this city that never sleeps...

    « Pros and cons »

Stayed here two nights while in town on business. Room was clean and spacious. Basic bathroom, adequate. Location in Chinatown near Little Italy -- verycosmopolitan clientele, largely foreign tourists. Lots of street noise in the evenings. Internet was unusable - couldn't log on most of the time, kept dropping signal. Breakfast was included but after one morning of bad coffee and generic food I sought out a local diner the second day. Ok overall -- not awful but nothing memorable.

    « Great hotel »

A great hotel near the metro station. Front desk staff were very friendly. Special mention to Ryan, Stanley and Nathan. Breakfast is basic but as included it is great value for money. A great base to see New York.

    1
    « Robotic; inhospitable »

Front desk- clinical, no warmth, no hospitality, very depressing. It feels you are in a factory..chop chop.. Breakfast - sad spread, poor quality. Location - rooms overlook grocery stores and crowded street.

    « Average hotel »

Bery basic services. Super slow wifi. Ok location. No minibar fridge in the room, useless brewtek coffee maker, you get no complementary water ever. Go there if you're a great far east fan. Yellow faces everywhere and you get to see all kinds of wares and foods from China to Malaysia

« Enjoyed Best Western Bowery Hanbee »

We very much enjoyed our week long stay at this hotel. The front desk guys were great, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful with our questions. The hotel is very close to a few subway stations which makes it easy to get to wherever you need to go. Continental breakfast was a hit, lots of options for those wanting a hot breakfast (porridge, eggs, meat protein (ham/sausage) and toast. Cold options were cereal, fruit and yoghurt...something for everyone. Lovely deck/court yard to eat breakfast on in the mornings. Room was a great size for two people and very clean. The only thing I would recommend is a bar size fridge for the rooms. The smell not to far from the hotel was the hardest thing to deal with during the trip (not the hotel's fault at all), just when it is warm out, there are some fruit/veggie/fish stands that really get smelly. Couple that with the garbage smell and it was hard to handle. Would completely recommend this hotel, great stay.

« Good location, clean room, good choices for breakfast, friendly staff »

This is a good place to stay if you plan to visit Manhattan, particularly around Little Italy and China Town because it is just 5-10 walk away. We booked 2-queen bed room and the price was very reasonable. Breakfast had plenty of choices (eggs, sausage, bagels, bread, cereals, milk, yogurt, fruits, juice, coffee) The bed is good, clean. The mattress is quite good (we did not experience any back pain). They change bed sheet/towel every day. There is also a safe in the cabinet . .which is good. Although the room is a bit small with also no walking / sitting room (you have to sit on the bed) but when consider that it is a place for a few days vacation there . . this place absolutely makes a lot of sense.

    « Family holiday. »

The hotel was clean & the breakfast was good. Easy to walk to different places or catch the subway which was just around the corner. We did feel that it was quite expensive which wasn't helped by the exchange rate. Overall we had a great time & the staff on reception were helpful & friendly.

    3
« Average hotel good location »

Stayed there one night to be close to Little Italy. Great location for Little Italy, Chinatown and walking to 911 Memorial (20 min walk). Very average hotel, but clean and friendly service from the guys at the front desk. They will store luggage. Metro stop at end of the block. It is a long subway ride to Times Square and Uptown. They offer a modest breakfast and have vending machines. It's tough to upload from a taxi on the busy street but as long as the street is open (heavy traffic in that area) it will be fine.

    5
« Clean and Big Room »

Good location, clean and big room, and the staff are amazingly friendly and welcoming. The breakfast has a wide variety. I had a pleasant stay during my three nights in New York. I highly recommend this facility.

    5
« Amazing staff and service »

Stayed here for a couple of nights and can not believe how amazing and helpful the staff were. Not to mention how friendly they were. They also have free breakfast, their coffee machine is 24/7 and they have a exercise room! How cool is that. I 100% recommend Best Western if you are staying in NYC. ??????

    « Convenient Hotel. »

I stayed at the Bowery during a trip to NY with my wife. From arrival to departure every member of staff we met was polite, friendly and helpful. Check in was swift, we took the opportunity to collect some leaflets on local attractions from the display. The room was a fair size for an inner city hotel Everything was clean and the bed was comfortable. The room had an iron, full size ironing board and a safe. Breakfast was good with a large choice available. The weather was very warm, the outside dining was welcome. The hotel is two minutes walk from a subway station. Chinatown and Little Italy are on the doorstep, wr haf plenty of choice when eating out. We had an evening flight back home and were glad to be able to store our cases at the hotel after checkout. I would be happy to recomend the Bowery.

    « Great location/affordable »

Although this hotel is old and a little dated the king room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Sean and Jeffrey at the front desk were extremely helpful with directions and navigating the subway system. This friendly duo and made our stay even better. It was a great location for walking to Little Italy, Soho and of course you are in the heart of Chinatown. Short walk to Canal st. for shopping and knockoffs. Easy to navigate the subway system and very economical. When we were not sure which train to get the locals were very helpful! Way cheaper than taking cabs. Short subway ride to almost anywhere. The breakfast in the morning was great. You could make a waffles, always had some type of eggs, sometimes sausage, cereal, yogurt, fruit, toast, bagels, muffins etc. New York in July was sweltering hot but loved our visit.

    4
    « Great hotel »

Don't be put of by the hotels location it is a great hotel with cosy bedrooms and even though the location is in Chinatown it is close by to little Italy and a good location for travelling. The breakfast is fine although it is served on paper plates. It is reasonably priced and is cosy.

« Great Location, Clean & Reasonably Priced! »

I booked this hotel because it was only a block and a half away from the place where my meeting was the next day. It turned out to be a fabulous location, and I wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy it! To one side was Chinatown, to the other Little Italy. A subway station was just a couple of blocks away. The room was clean and a decent size for New York. My room faced the courtyard, so was a little quieter than if it had faced the street. Nice updated bathroom. I'd stay here again if I'm attending something else on the Lower East Side!

    4
« Location great but chose your room »

It's fun to be among the bustle of Chinatown and convenient close to the subway. Breakfast is plentiful and extended hours. Our room was what you would expect of NYC hotel space. However, the room placement was noisy, as it was across from housekeeping suite. Just ask for a different room and everything will be just what you need in the Big Apple!

    5
« Very, very pleased with this hotel »

The kind folks behind the desk were our HEROES after the Leon Hotel "had a glitch" and would not honor our reservation. Best Western found a room for us, comforted us with kind words, friendly smiles, and a great attitude. Also the room was surprisingly roomy and clean and we thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast out on the patio. Cannot say enough nice things about our experience at this BW.

    4
« Good location; fairly good price for NYC »

We booked this hotel because it was located near some of the sites we planned to visit in NYC (Statue of Liberty, One World Trade Center, Chinatown and Soho). The room was clean, comfortable & surprisingly quiet despite being on 2nd floor facing the street. We left the car for two nights in a garage nearby on Chrystie St ($35/day) and traveled by subway and on foot. The free breakfast was fine; nothing fancy but ample and well-attended and supplied by the staff. There were enjoyable places to sit and eat inside or outdoors on a courtyard patio. The front desk staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in response to our questions about getting around the city. All in all we felt well served by this hotel.

    4
« Clean, Comfortable, Close Proximity to Subway »

Overall, our experience was great. The hotel is only one block from subway, has many reasonable price restaurants in the surrounding, and very clean. The staff for check in was good, especially the manager. However, the staff attitude when we were checking out was terrible.

« Another Bargain in NYC »

I once again had to be back in my old hometown for some business and though I usually stay at The Franklin on the Upper Eastside I needed to be closer to downtown as I had early morning appointments. I Have used Best Western many times over the years so when I saw the Hanbee in the Bowery area I thought it would at least be acceptable. Well was I ever pleasantly surprised, it was absolutely excellent, every single staff member went out of his or her way to help in the most pleasant way possible. Not only that the location was perfect and much better than expected when I first saw the address. Grand Street is not as bad as being in the middle of Chinatown, which in the summer is unpleasantly crowded, hot and sometimes smelly. The Hotel is located closer to Little Italy. If you go in the warm weather walk to Caffee Roma and get a gelato which is better and cheaper than Ferraro's, then if you are hungry for good apizza go to Sal's on Mulberry and Broome. At Sal's he has a cross between a grandma and sicilian Apizza they keep it on the counter in a plexiglass protector. It is one of the better thicker crust pizza's in the city. I should know my family has been in the bread business for 200 years and the Apizza since 1919, so for a walk in place Sal's is good and Authentic. If you want to save money and still get a big taste for Our Beautiful city stay at the Best Western Hanbee Ciao

« Nice stay, handy to transport »

Just stayed 7 nights on first visit to NY, wasn't exactly sure where to stay. Easy access to Metro, buses and taxi. 2minute walk to Little Italy and a host of Italian restaurants. There are lots of options nearby other than Italian so walk for a few blocks and explore.

    4
    « Great location »

If there was one reason for you to stay in this hotel I would answer great location! Literally outside the reception is a tube station which is very handy! This hotel is a gem hidden in a busy Chinatown! You get breakfast included and can make lovely waffles and take a coffee to go! Perfect in the freezing temperatures at Christmas. The rooms are small but modern but when you are out all day and night you only need the room for a place to sleep! If you spent more time in the room I would maybe recommend another hotel with larger spaced rooms.

    5
« Great hotel in Chinatown »

We stayed here for one night before getting on an east coast tour. The location is excellent if you want to take one of the bus tours. Large spacious rooms and very clean. They serve a pretty decent hot breakfast too. Would highly recommend if you wish to explore New York.

    5
« Great location, extremely clean! »

24 hour front desk staff always gave a cheerful 'good morning!' and were very helpful. Breakfast was delicious and there was WiFi available in the rooms. The hotel was within a couple minutes walk of numerous subway stations and within walking distance to Little Italy, SoHo etc. The Chinatown area I thought was a little dumpy, especially at night. There was a smell of rotting produce and fish due to all the little grocers in the area - but this was the one and only negative (and it's not even to do with the hotel). Hotel room was spotless when we initially arrived and when we returned at the end of each day. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to family and friends.

    « Chinatown gem »

This was our first time staying in the lower Manhattan (usually stay in upper west side) great location with lots to see and do close by. Walking distance to Little Italy and subway station close also. Shout out to Sean at the front desk, very professional and friendly. Big rooms for New York City, and decent free breakfast.

    4
« Decent Tourist Hotel in New York »

Just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel. This is a decent budget hotel located close to both Chinatown and Little Italy. Our room (standard king) was a good size, comfortable and clean. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. A limited breakfast is available and the breakfast area is small and cramped - although breakfast was included we ate out a couple of mornings. However, the hotel is well located for exploring Manhattan and a subway is located close by.

    4
« Very good value for money »

This hotel is well located and very good value for money. It has nothing special but the room comfortable and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was average but this place is definitly a good deal in New York.

    4
« Big rooms, great location and good value for NYC »

Big rooms, great location and good value for NYC. In the hustle and bustle of chinatown - central enough for anywhere in NYC. The rooms are surprisingly big. The staff a great and rooms are clean. Would definitely recommend.

    3
    « Location, location, location »

This hotel is a good bargain given that NYC is very expensive. There is nothing fancy here, and in fact parts of the hotel are a bit dreary. The free breakfast is very ?middle American? with lots of carbs, no veggies, but adequate to get a nibble. The internet is slow, so don't expect anything other than email (Speed averages about 1 mbps). My room was tiny but clean, and DID NOT smell like smoke or look shabby. Staff was friendly. Very close to Chinatown, Little Italy, Nolita, Lower East Side. Very easy walk to Brooklyn Bridge and NYU.

    « Great price & location »

My friend was flying in from the west coast, I am a life long Jersey resident so I am familiar with the city. I chose this hotel because China Town is very close to the places I frequent (LES, NOHO, SOHO, West Village, Chelsea, etc) It was difficult to find a hotel down in this part of Manhattan that had double beds. Best Western had them! Location is safe, convenient- 15 minute walk to subway, Canal St etc. it's a block from Little Italy also. This is a location for the people who don't want to stay in tourist area. Rooms were clean- beds were comfy & the continental breakfast will save you at least $15 each. Most of the other guests at the hotel were from Europe or the UK. I only saw one family from the States. (You can tell because they all had neon green matching shirts, were loud and had a Texan accent) This is not a luxury hotel, but a place to sleep after a long day of exploring the city. The elevators do not operate without a room key- so it's piece of mind that no one from off the streets can just get in. Staff was super accommodating and helpful. Showers had some mildew and the Univent wasn't that cold- comfortable but you can not create an ice den like I like to do! Hope this helps! Also- continental breakfast had a "make your own waffle".

« Great location, good hotel »

Starting with the best part, the location of this place is absolutely perfect if you enjoy a bit of shopping and some bar hopping in between hip restaurants. Or the buzz of Chinatown. I absolutely love LES, and for me, this place had the best possible location (especially when you mostly have evenings for your own use). Other than that, this is a fairly standard, comfortable hotel that drew no complaints. The bed was comfortable and the staff were friendly. I heard the breakfast is nothing to brag about, and the air conditioning was a bit loud (I'm a sensitive sleeper and always travel with ear plugs so it didn't matter much) but then it often is. I'll probably end up going again as I visit New York City every now and then.

    « Basic, Comfy & Clean »

Hotel is ideally located in Chinatown and very close to Little Italy, and several metro stations. Warm welcome from Reception on arrival - we stayed here for four nights last week. The hotel room is a good size, with a large shower, decent coffee machine and in room safe. Free wifi with strong signal. Comfy bed - just what you need after walking around NY all day. Slept really well. The room was serviced on a daily basis. Air conditioning was fantastic. Good breakfast selection (and coffee machine is available all day) including make your own waffles, cereals, pastries, fresh fruit and bacon/sausage meat and eggs. You can either eat in the breakfast room or outside on the lovely patio in the fresh air. All the staff we came into contact with were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is great for people who need a bed to sleep in and a decent breakfast to start their day. Its extremely clean and well kept. If you are expecting luxury, this is not the hotel to be at. If you want clean, comfortable, welcoming and helpful staff - then this is where you should stay. Thank you to all the staff at this hotel for looking after us. We enjoyed our stay with you immensely.

« Great service, facilities and location »

Very pleasantly surprised at the helpfulness of all the staff I encountered during my week's vacation. Conveniently located just a block away from a subway station (about 3 minutes walk), good sized room and bathroom, complementary breakfast with a reasonable selection of hot and cold food. Would place it at the top of the list of places to stay if I ever return to NYC

    « Sorprendente ! »

Great hotel, great price, great location (close to 4 metro lines, one square away from Little Italy) You won't find a lobby when you first step in the hotel, you'll have to go to the second floor, that's where it's located. It's quite surprising, but OK. This is just what you want when you book an hotel in New York : a clean, friendly place to sleep and have breakfast (included, that was great). Don't forget the minicards in the lobby so you can enjoy a free chocolate bar or some discounts. Very friendly staff. Try to have breakfast before 8 AM as it becomes very crowded later, although there are more tables available outside if the weather is good. I traveled with my husband and my toddler, and we would stay there again for sure.

« Clean, Free Breakfast & Easy Access to Midtown via 6th Ave Express »

For $100 less than Midtown hotels with tiny rooms, the Bowery Hanbee Hotel in Chinatown provides free breakfast, good sized rooms and a great subway connection to Bryant Park, near Times Square. Manager Sayed Khan and his staff provide polite, efficient service in this clean, well run hotel. Near Little Italy & East Village clubs, this place is a hidden gem. Current street repairs (6-2016) are noisy at night, but I was able to sleep with the white noise of the A/C blowing.

« Good value in a pricey city »

We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights. It's functional rather than fancy, but that's what we were expecting from a Best Western. We'd gone for a King Suite and I was pleased with that decision - the room was enormous, which is very unusual for NY, and it was nice to have so much space. The bathroom was also bright and spacious and the shower was excellent. I don't know what the normal rooms are like but the King Suite is definitely recommended for longer stays, it's a bit more of a home from home. We had a fridge and coffee/tea maker in the room with filter coffee sachets restocked every day, plus a decent selection of toiletries. The hotel provides a complimentary breakfast until 10am, again unusual for NY. It's not amazing (and the dining area is a bit cramped) but it's more than adequate, with bagels, waffles, eggs, fresh fruit and yogurt. It's good to fuel up for the day in a city where brunching can be quite expensive for what you get. My only criticism of the room would be that the air con, although efficient, was very noisy, because it kept switching itself off and then back on again a few minutes later, waking me up each time. In the end we couldn't have it switched on at night (but luckily the room wasn't too hot, even though it was hot outside). The hotel staff were great - really friendly and helpful, from the room maids to the front desk staff to the maintenance guy who fixed our safe when we locked ourselves out of it! The hotel is situated in Chinatown, which is bustling and noisy, but the double glazing kept the noise out very effectively. It's a good location, a short walk from two subway stations on different lines, and within walking distance of the bars and restaurants of Lower East Side and East Village. I note other travellers have complained about the quality of the wifi - we didn't have any problems with it ourselves. Would definitely stay here again, and would recommend it as long as you're not expecting swish & glamour.

    « Okay ish »

Nothing glamorous Did everything it was suppose to do for that price. Wifi is terrible really bad. Disconnected after 3 minutes Gym is very tiny Staff is friendly Neighborhood is in Chinatown with a lot of Asian restaurants. Down two blocks little Italy and Nolita

    « Hotel is okay »

I wasn't expecting much of this hotel to begin with. The rooms were clean and so were the bathrooms. The breakfast was not the best but you could manage with it. The hotel is not far from little Italy, shops and china town. the wifi is free and the staff was really friendly and helpful.

« Every time I visit New York »

Every time I visit New York, I stay at the Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel. Sure, I think I'd like to stay somewhere else, just to see. But the value can't be beat. You get a clean hotel room in one of the safest neighborhoods in New York City. You have easy access to public transportation (just a block from the D train). I swear, several years ago, on a Christmas morning, I jumped on the subway and got to Rockefeller Center in eleven minutes ... from my hotel room (only to discover that Sasha Cohen, shown skating on "The Today Show" was actually on tape). The food in the neighborhood, can't be beat. And mind you, when I say "neighborhood" you're really in several very different neighborhoods. Chinatown, Little Italy (more a commercial district than an actual neighborhood), Soho/Tribeca. So you've got your choice of great, inexpensive restaurants (and a Whole Foods just five blocks away). Lastly, it has about the friendliest, most helpful staff of anyplace you'll find. The front desk is really front desk/concierge ... always willing to give recommendations ... give directions. In sum, the Bowery Hanbee is the best hotel deal in NYC.

Excellent and very helpful staff made our stay trouble free. Rooms clean and comfy. Breakfast catered for all tastes Easy access to sub way. Located between little Italy and China Town Would stay there again.

    « Good location »

The rooms are basic but have everything that you would need . Hotel is in good location near subway and close to loads of restaurants Chinese and Italian. If you want some respite from mayhem of Times Square and 5th Avenue this location is ideal. The breakfast is adequate though seating basic. Coffee is not good. Wifi is very slow but free. I would stay here again as I liked location and rooms were clean, shower had enough power and staff were helpful

    5
« Reasonable, Central Location, and near Subway »

This hotel is in the center of Chinatown, but close to everything. The subway is a block away! Take cash for Chinese fruits, vegetables, and mmm Chinese food. The hotel full breakfast has everything, bagels, waffles, eggs, sausage, bacon, and pastries! They even have a big pot of hot oatmeal with raisins, nuts, and brown sugar. Rooms are Roomy! Newly renovated! Safe for kids. A Great Value!

« Great stay at Bowery »

spent ten nights at The Bowery and found the room and service to be great. We had a king suite which is large for New York. A continental breakfast is provided and all the staff were very helpful. The hotel is situated between Chinatown and Little Italy and is a two minute walk to Grand subway. We will definitely come back here in future visits

    5
    « Nice Clean Hotel »

We have stayed at the hotel for the past week, had a suite, room was really nice, great location for shops, station 3 mins walk, 3 stops into New York City Macy's / Time Square, can be noise so best bring ear plugs.. But would stay again. You walkout side hotel and you are in china town, walk all few yards up the road and your in little Italy.. The shops at the top of the road are really good, you can get some good bargains, better then in town, so worth a look..

« Badly designed rooms, poor service, low water pressure and poor cleaning »

The biggest problem with the hotel room is that because the bathroom occupies most of the window space, there is a glass panel into the bedroom to let light in to the room but no blind or shade on the window in the bathroom. As soon as the sun rises the room becomes light with no way of blocking it out. It made it very difficult to sleep beyond 6am. It also made the room quite dingy during the day. The problem with the service was that when I spoke to the desk staff after the first night to see if anything could be done about the light, they said the rooms were all the same but that they'd send someone up to rig something up to keep the light out. This never happened. They clearly couldn't be bothered to take my comments seriously. Ironically there's a sign on the desk inviting customers to let them know if there's anything they can do to make their stay more comfortable: what is the point if you don't then do anything about it? Finally, the cleaning in the bathroom was poor. When we went in there were quite a lot of the previous occupant's hairs in the shower which I didn't notice until I'd got into the shower myself. These were removed later but when I noticed a penny had been dropped by the side of the toilet I decided to leave it to see what happened. The answer was nothing at all. The penny remained there for the 5 days I stayed at this hotel so it was clear that the cleaning was unsatisfactory. Finally, the water pressure was always low, meaning the shower was poor, but on one occasion (I assume a peak period) there was nothing more than a meagre dribble of water. The only positive thing I have to say about this hotel is that the location is interesting but there must be better places to stay in that area than this!

    4
    « Nice. »

It is a nice hotel just not in the best area. The smell from all the shops outside is terrible but once inside, it's fine. You need a key to get into the building so you feel safe but the lobby is on the second floor. The rooms were nice but there was no lock on our bathroom door. The breakfast was the typical complimentary hotel breakfast. Overall, for the price it is worth it.

« First visit to New York »

The hotel is situated on the edge of Chinatown and Little Italy and both my wife and I thought it was a great location. It enabled us to get a sense of the real New York but was still only a 5-10 minute subway ride from the hustle and bustle of midtown Manhattan. The location meant that great food at reasonable prices was available literally minutes out of the hotel doors. The hotel was clean, the bed was very comfortable and the staff couldn't do enough for us. They recommended and booked an amazing restaurant for our anniversary, helped with booking cars, directions and advice on where to eat locally. We would definitely stay here again. If you're interested in local colour and seeing something more than Times Square and Midtown Manhattan, I would heartily recommend this hotel.

    5
    « Great stay! »

We had a great 2-night stay at the Hanbee. We were a bit concerned about the location based on other reviews, but found that we had no problem walking any time of the day or evening. In fact, in view of its location in Chinatown, everything moves blessedly slower than other areas of Manhattan. And we found that most welcoming. Yes, there was construction going on in the street during the night but yes, this is NYC. The rooms are so efficiently designed that the smallness is not an issue - no carpets, which we were delighted to see - and even radiant flooring in the bathroom. And the staff are all wonderful - friendly, helpful, efficient.

    « Re: Perfect »

If you want a hotel among locals rather than tourists like we did then this is for you. On the edge of China Town and Little Italy the Best Western feels more like a family hotel than a corporate. ..all the staff are amazing and can't do enough for you...all special ial shout out to Jeff the head concierge who will sort anything and everything for you. The nearest subway into midtown is a 1 min walk away. The beds are super comfy and the rooms and bathrooms immaculate with daily cleaning service. Every day you'll be immersed in local life walking past fish mongers, Chinese pharmacies, great ice cream and cannoli bars but at night you'll get a great nights sleep as everything quietens down. Breakfast is included and you get a great choice of muffins croissants bagels toast egg sausage and can make your own waffles. It's not big or fancy but there is more than enough choice. A few subway stops from midtown and all the main attractions you really won't find a better base for your stay.

    4
    « Good Central Location »

This Best Western Hotel is located on the border of China Town and Little Italy. Multiple bus lines and subway stations are within walking distance. A great location for those who wish to explore and experience the city.

« Best Bargain in New York »

Every time I visit New York, I make sure to stay at the Bowery Hanbee. It's the best bargain in the City, which has very few. People may be intimidated staying in an ethnic neighborhood. But would it be different if one were staying in Paris, let's say? One thing you can say about staying in New York's Chinatown, there's always good food. Might as well throw in no crime. You also have easy access to public transportation. One can, for instance, go from room to Rockefeller Center in 11 minutes. Yes. I timed it.

    « Love Best Western !!!!! »

ON Road Trip from East to West Coast, Best Western made it wonderful stay for us very professional ,clean and great location . The Subway are fairly close. Best Value in the hotel is the breakfast which is included in your stay. The front desk agent , Jeffery was so polite was able to get us in the room that we were looking for. Absolutely in love with the wood floor instead of the carpet. Super nice staff .Will be staying at this hotel again on our way back!!

« Cozy, clean, affordable spot in the busy city. »

I searched thoroughly for a hotel in NYC, which is an exhausting process considering all the hotels and locations. There's so much to consider! After weighing the endless options, we decided on this hotel in Chinatown and were so glad we did. First of all, the location is right in the heart of Chinatown and very close, within a short walk to Little Italy. It's all right there! The hotel is right next to Chase bank. The subway options are also fairly close. The best value in the hotel is the breakfast which is included in your stay. They have eggs, a meat choice each morning (bacon, ham or sausage), make-your-own waffles, 3 cereal choices, hot oatmeal, assorted pastries, bread, muffins, bagels with a big industrial toaster, butter, peanut butter, jam, boiled eggs, yogurt, hot coffee, tea, milk, OJ, apples, bananas, oranges. They're super nice and quick to help if you need anything replenished. Not a huge amount of seating, but even on busy days we didn't have a problem. There is nice outdoor seating if weather permits for you. When you arrive you will have to go up the elevator to the front desk to check in. We got extremely lucky as we arrived very early in the morning after a red eye. The front desk person, Jeffrey was SO kind and was able to get us into a room early. We knew this was only a possibility so we were soooo grateful. This allowed a nap before hitting the city. Housekeeping came daily and did a great job. They always had a smile and a hello. The rooms are spacious for NYC standards. We had 2 queens for adults and a child. There's a desk, standing closet, safe, ironing board & iron, bathroom w/ tub which is nice and clean, hairdryer, water was hot and plentiful. Also a chair and lamp by the window, updated TV, air conditioning which stopped working, but we asked for help and someone came to fix it immediately. It worked great after. There's some street noise, but that's to be expected and actually at night it was pretty quiet. The beds were comfortable and there's plenty of good pillows provided. Loved that the floors are wood, not carpet. Free wi-fi, but that's my only thing I'd say wasn't great. If you're a business person this could be a factor for you, but we just dealt with it. I can't imagine being able to do better for the value. Super nice staff, clean, comfortable, good safe location, free hot breakfast. We ate at Shanghai Cafe in Chinatown which was super affordable and yummy! Also Amici II in Little Italy was tasty and authentic Italian old school fare. Shake shack was also a winner - we ate at one by the Museum of Natural History and there's one in Grand Central Station. They're around! Gelato within walking distance of the room, too! You'll love your cozy sleep spot and it's so nice to wake up and have breakfast & coffee before you start your busy NYC day which always includes a TON of walking. Great place to stay!

Traveled to this are last November for some sight seeing. We always love coming to New York City! Check in was fast and we were offered an express check out as well. In room wifi was a little slow at first but I let the front desk know and they quickly fixed the issue-much appreciated

I have visited New York several times but I had a great time on this vacation. The hotel is located in a central area, very clean with good resturants and bars near by. Good vacation overall. the front desk was very helpful as well. Its located in the middle of Chinatown.

We arrived at this hotel late one evening and the streets were dark and a little gritty, we were unsure about the location . But, we were pleasantly comfortable here. Upon arrival, were upgraded to a King Suite and enjoyed our roomy digs! This hotel is nestled I. The cross roads of Little Italy and Chinatown, and If you like to walk, this location is great. We walked everywhere. Also convenient to Metro lines!! The hotel itself is quite standard, rather than fancy, but everything was clean and functional!

« Nice Hotel and a Great Price »

We just returned from a week in New York to share "The City" with some family members who have never visited before so we were looking for affordable lodging combined with a good location. I was very pleased with the Best Western Bowery location. The rooms were clean, the people were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was decent with the typical boiled eggs, cold/hot cereal, fruit and waffle machine and the location was great. This hotel is in the heart of China Town and Little Italy and about a three minute walk to the subway. If you are looking for a place to stay in Manhattan but do not want to pay Times Square prices I would recommend this hotel. We will definitely plan to stay here again in the future.

    5
« Great hotel Best western Bowery Hanbed »

The really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. I especially liked the complimentary breakfast on the open deck, the spaciousness of the rooms, great location around the corner from little Italy, a short distance to three Manhattan bridges, in the heart of Chinatown and a few blocks from NYU. I definitely recommend this hotel; prices are reasonable and staff is exceptionally friendly! Thank you for making our stay a memorable one!

    « Perfect Location »

If luxurious and palatial and expensive is what you are looking for, this is not the place for you. Located on the block between Little Itay's Mulberry Street and China town, this lower East Side hotel is perfectly situated for a weekend of fun. It is advertised as a boutique hotel or European style hotel which means small rooms. True, but they are comfortable, clean and well appointed with a desk and chair, another comfortable chair, an iron and board, safe, a coffee machine and, of course, a comfortable bed and spacious bathroom. The front desk staff and housekeeping staff are delightful and helpful. The breakfast is a good start for the day, but there are also coffee shops and bakeries all around. But it is the location that really makes this hotel outstanding. One block from the subway, it is also close to restaurants in both Little Italy and Chinatown. The area is teaming with outdoor fruit, fish, and gelato vendors. In addition the lower east side is great area for music and nightlife. When we return to NYC, we will most definitely stay here again.

    « Hotel is a hidden gem! »

Stayed here from the 11th to 15th March in 2 rooms, set in a fantastic location in Chinatown and just around the corner from Little Italy it is within easy reach of all main lines which makes getting around really easy. Clean, modern rooms with great tv, air con and a nice bathroom, an accessible ice machine and no messing about breakfast made it perfect for our trip. Special thanks to Jeffrey on reception who managed to check us in early, and made us comfortable and gave great advice, from a Hotel background myself he is a credit to this Hotel and is an example of what all hotel staff should be like, thank you.

    « Pretty good »

Our stay was pretty good. we stayed for a week and had no problems. The breakfast service was pretty good as well, we ate there very morning. The hotel was in China Town and Little Italy which was easy walking distance to lots of tourist places and close to subways.

« Why not stay downtown? »

Why not stay in this hotel? Set on Grand Street in the heart of Chinatown and Little Italy, a mix of both cultures. Nearby to tons of cafes, restaurants and shops( normal stores but also high end clothing retailers). A safe neighborhood, saw no trouble at all. Hotel is fine. Decent sized rooms with a big bed, lovely modern bathroom,tv,safe, plenty of storage and space. Breakfast is continental style but there are lots of places nearby. The entrance has key card control out of normal hours which makes you feel safe. Subway station a couple of minutes walk but even walking anywhere is not a chore. A great place to stay especially for exploring downtown NYC and not far at all from the Williamsburg,Manhattan or Brooklyn bridges.

« Very good value hotel in an interesting location »

I can recommend this hotel for a great, budget, stay in New York city. Situated near both the Bowery and Grand Street subway stations, this hotel is in the lively area of Chinatown. The hotel has good size rooms which are clean and comfortable. The communal areas are tidy and well lit and a good breakfast is provided, free, on an all you can eat basis. The staff are friendly and helpful and the whole place feels very secure, you need to use your room key to access the bedroom floors. A bonus are the free to use computers in the reception area where you can print off boarding passes etc. The free wi-fi is a bit hit and miss but with all the other good points this hotel has it really would be pointless to complain about that. I would definitely stay again when I am in NYC.

    5
« Great location and value for money »

Can only recommend this hotel. Great location and great friendly serviceminded staff. I had a few packages sent to the hotel and they were ready for me when I came. Only this is the breakfast - that's not very good. However this is how it is. The training facilities are also VERY poor

    « Great Stay »

Great hotel location as well as price. Very central to get around New York City from the subway or in an uber. Room was immaculately clean and they offered a very good breakfast offering. I would definitely stay here again.

    « Beware of poor Wi-Fi »

The room was very nice, relatively quiet, & comfortable. The lobby was small but functional & the staff was very friendly. The only negative (which was a BIG one) was that the Wi-Fi was absolutely terrible. Beware business travelers.

    « Nice stay »

Enjoyed staying at the Bowery. Right in china town but easy walk to other areas. Bathroom can get very cold, there is no fridge and we had bought some cheese just left it on the bathroom window sill as it was as cold as a fridge. Breakfast is okay plentiful and included in our stay.

« Snowed in in Chinatown »

My bf and I stayed here during the blizzard. Great experience at the Best Western Bowery. The staff was super helpful and friendly. Breakfast is included and is plentiful... make sure to get up early for it! The room was big and very clean. There's a treadmill and an elliptical on the roof. Good location- 2 blocks from ferarra's and little Italy. 25 minute walk to financial district. Thanks to the staff for a pleasant stay.

« Best Western Bowery Hanabee Hotel »

If you are looking for a good hotel in the not usual tourist areas, but still well-located you should consider this one. It is in the Chinatown/Little Italy in walking distance to Lower Manhattan (if you like to walk) but also with public transport near by. The rooms aren't huge but are big enough. We were in 810, there is no heat source in the bathroom so keep the door open when not using so the more-than-ample heat from the room can flow in. Breakfast area is a little small so don't go late. Staff is friendly and polite. This was my second stay at this hotel. I would go back and would recommend.

    « Long weekend »

Me and my mate really enjoyed our stay there this long weekend. The room was clean with extra towels. Front desk was very helpful with any questions we ask and polite. « We enjoyed our stay »

We stayed here for 5 nights. The hotel has laminate floors that look like wood. I wish all hotels in the USA got rid of their carpets like they have in Europe. I was very glad to see this hotel has done that. The room was very clean. They had a free breakfast that filled us up before we left for the day. They had security so that people on the street couldn't get up to the floors unless they had room keys or were taken up by guests of the hotel. I liked that. I thought the bed was comfortable. We were near a couple subway lines. The people working the desk were always friendly and helpful. This is a good place to stay and was reasonably priced for NYC. I thought the 5 nights we were here that the hotel was very quiet. The only place I really ran into other guest was in the breakfast area. That room was small and crowded but you could take your food back to your room or, in nice weather, eat outside on their second floor outdoor area. We would definitely stay here again.

    5
« Great location, great staff, cleanest room ever! »

The hotel is only a block from 2 tourist locations; Chinatown & Little Italy. The folks at the hotel were like greeting old friends that went far beyond the norm for caring and meeting our every request. The rooms (2) were spotless and absolutely the cleanest hotel room I have ever seen.

    « NYC New Year's Eve »

Nice room, clean and comfortable. Although entrance is at 1st floor, lobby is at 2nd. I will recommend hotel should have a security guard/personnel at the entrance. We had a scary moment when we arrived late at night and a couple of strangers waited for us at the entrance and ride with us, without any key (so we thought they didnt had one), to our floor before they realized they were in the wrong place. Location is close to metro but the area is not for hanging out at night.

    « Great Location »

Stayed here with my boyfriend for 5 nights. It was our first time in NYC and location was really important to us as well as affordability. This hotel had both. China Town was super interesting and little Italy is within a few steps. During our stay way back September 2014 they had the Italian festival on which had amazing food booths and the streets were full. The subway was steps away from the front door of this hotel which made getting around the city extremely easy. We also had a hop on/hop off bus pass and one of the pick up spots was within walking distance as well. The continental breakfast was good especially if you wanted to fill up on something quick before heading out to see the city. I do remember construction outside the hotel which was no problem as the noise level was not noticed. The room was on the smaller side but we were only ever in the room to get ready, shower and sleep. The hotel was clean and front desk staff were helpful with directions or information if needed. We really felt we lucked out with this hotel, it was perfecr for what we needed. Especially since all hotels are extremely pricey in NYC we found this one for a great price and having the subway so close was awesome. I never felt uncomfortable walking around this area. If we ever make it back to NYC I'm sure we would stay again.

« great for touring and family »

Very pleased with our choice - great budget hotel with qq bedding which is hard to find in NYC at a reasonable price. Many subway lines a close walk away; great restaurants within blocks. Front desk staff was delightful; we also took airport car service transfer but had no issue as previous reviewer did. Only issue was noise from other guests - pretty thin walls - but much of that unwanted noise is just cultural differences, so nothing can be done about that really.

« Great experience all around »

My husband and I were in town for business and decided to stay the night and see what the city had to offer we were both very impressed with both the staff as well as the cleanliness of the hotel. Our room was cute, clean, and priced reasonably .

« Best Western Hanbee, Chinatown, NYC »

Reliable Best Western quality- cosy, practical, all needs met, great location, quiet, efficient. Only problem was noisy heat/AC, with clanging that sometimes prevented a great night's sleep. Bed was comfy, bathroom design very mod, great room service and front desk staff, nice roof deck off dining area.

    « First-rate »

I will start by saying I only have one complaint/criticism, and that is about the transportation the hotel arranged to take me to the airport. They have a poster at the desk advertising it is $49. to LaGuardia. As a taxi is about that much I arranged for it to pick me up. I was asked to pay the desk clerk $12 in advance, and he gave me a receipt showing I owed $37 to the driver. When I got in the car the driver, an elderly Chinese man who was very hard to understand, wanted to know "Cash or Credit?" He then informed me if I paid by credit card it would add 20% to the bill. I protested, and he said "10%." Then said "20%" Then when I said "WHAT?" said "10%". He then said he was owed $39. I showed him my receipt that said $37.but he kept yelling "No! $39!!" and showing me a tablet that had that written on it. I gave up. Once we got to the airport I handed him a $50 bill. He shook his head. I said, "you mean I have to give you exact change?" He nodded and said something unintelligible. I gave him 2 Twenties and for the first time in my life I did not tip the driver, and took my $1 change. I intend to let the hotel know about this, in case they aren't aware. Now for the rest, which is all good. I am including photos of the bathroom toiletry shelf because some reviewers had complained there was no place to put toiletries. It's true there is not a shelf at the sink, but there is ample room on the shelf to the left of the toilet, totally convenient. The room was plenty large for one person, and would be adequate for two without being uncomfortably close. When I saw photos on this site I thought the room looked drab and dull, all gray and monochrome, with B/W photos for decoration. But after the hubbub and stimulation of Manhattan, it is soothing and relaxing to return to this room. The materials are very good--bamboo floors, interesting textured walls. Everything in first class shape (except the wardrobe was pretty worn looking). TV and WiFi worked great. Sufficient electric outlets to charge your stuff. Lots of good lighting choices. The bed wasn't as firm as I'm used to but wasn't over-soft, more American than European. There was a heavy blanket in the wardrobe to add to the one on the bed, which I did. The thermostat worked perfectly on the H/AC unit, so I was always comfortable. Shower was very spacious, always plenty of hot water and good pressure. Everything very clean and orderly. Safe in the wardrobe that worked fine. Informative ring binder of information on the desk. Phone worked fine, and I could get good reception on my own phone too. I had asked for a quiet room, and got one. It was on the 6th floor, on the back of the hotel, away from the street, toward the elevator end, which meant also away from the windows on the other street. I never heard the elevators, which were quiet, smooth, and efficient. You do have to use your room card to operate them except for going to the lobby, but that is a good security measure. The desk clerks were super-nice and helpful. The breakfast was very good: All you can eat of fresh fruit, oatmeal packets, yogurt, dry cereal, waffles, muffins, toast, English muffins, bagels, hot eggs and bacon, ham, or sausage. Plus all the usual beverage choices. There was always seating in the dining area, where there was a TV turned down very low. There was a roof garden seating area, but it was closed for December. Staff members were bustling about keeping everything well-stocked. There were racks of discount cards for attractions, + a guidebook of what's going on which was helpful. There were no newspapers, which was a drawback, because the only papers for sale on the street were in Chinese. They will book you on a variety of tours, but I didn't do that, although I might on a future visit. I have been to NYC a number of times and had seen most of the sites. The Grand Street subway stop for the B/D line is two minutes' walk away and will take you all kinds of places. Once I got to the hotel I never had to take a taxi. The only time I was disturbed by noise was when a couple checked into the room next to mine about midnight and spent the next few hours slamming their drawers and doors and thudding up and down the hall. I was awake until 5 because of that. I mentioned it to the desk clerk in the morning who said if I'd called him he would have come and asked them to be quiet. The hallway doors are very noisy opening and closing, but they are quiet if you take the trouble to hold the lever down until the door is shut, then slowly release it upward. The neighborhood is interesting, almost everyone on the street is Chinese. I was disappointed that Little Italy has essentially been replaced by Chinatown. I recommend eating at Ferraro's brunch, and DaGennaro for dinner. Margharita's had a wonderful live 3 piece band Monday night. The Tenement Museum is worth a visit and is in walking distance. The Most Precious Blood R.C. Church has a fabulous nativity sculpture from Naples, and is in walking distance also. All in all, this hotel made my stay a very pleasurable one. It was the nicest hotel experience I've had in NYC, just as nice as the Waldorf Astoria, and it didn't have a free hot breakfast.

« Great value, location, and rooms »

The Best Western Bowery is in center of Chinatown and a quick walk to the best places in Soho, LES, etc. The rooms were very large, especially for New York. There was no noise from the street, just from other guests in the morning. If you are sensitive to light, then bring an eye mask b/c the frosted glass window to the bathroom leaves light in from the bathroom window. Other reviews complained about the smell in the neighborhood, but that's Chinatown. It does not seep into the rooms! I didn't make it to breakfast. That's pretty impressive to get a free one in NYC though. Subway is a 3 min walk.

« just okay for the money »

Pros: budget hotel with free breakfast. Room is adequate. Location is good in that you are close to Little Italy, SOHO, Broadway and a number of great stores. Cons: The location of the hotel and the street it's on is in Chinatown. It's just too dirty, too smelly. It's pretty gross. But a few blocks away things are dramatically better so it's tolerable. Our room smelled awful and we thought of asking to switch rooms but didn't at last minute because we were so tired. If I found another hotel even if I had to pay $50 more, I'd probably not stay here again. But if not then I would stay here.

« Great hotel between china town and nolita. »

This is a bit of an odd character. It doesn't look much to the world but is superbly situated close to two different subway lines, close to shopping and right in-between east and west side partying. Nice clean rooms with hardwood floors. Internet is included in the price as is a better than average breakfast considering it is Manhattan. Have stayed more than 30 nights at this hotel over the past 5 years.

    « A Wonderful Weekend »

Staying here was very nice. The room was great, plenty big enough, having been upgraded to a suite at no extra charge, the front desk was very helpful answering all our questions and we had plenty not being from the city. The breakfast was OK but having a bakery across the street it was all we needed. We had a great weekend being here for the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular and this hotel certainly added to it.

Great hotel! The service and staff were super helpful and always nice. The location is great, too. Great choice if you are going to the Bowery Ballroom, Kings Avenue, Invisible Ink or the like. Rooms were generously sized, clean and updated. The free breakfast and Wi-Fi were added perks. The biggest drawback is they don't have a gym or any really functional exercise room. It's a small (very small) room with three pieces of cardio equipment (two of which didn't work). All in all, a great value! As long as you don't want to workout (or if you want to forego your workout), it's the place to stay!

« Affordable hotel in good location »

Stayed here for 2 nights on a business trip. I wanted to be close to Canal St / Downtown where my office is, as well as fairly close to downtown Brooklyn where I had an offsite and this hotel fit the bill. My room was quite small, but for NYC this is more or less typical for this level of hotel. There were some initial issues with my room - the bathroom window was open and the crank to close it was broken and the TV remote was missing. However, the stuff quickly sent someone to close the window and delivery me a remote. The bed was comfortable, the WiFi worked well, and the room was about as quiet as you're gonna get when you're facing a fairly busy street as my room was, and you can hear people/kids talking in the hall as they are coming back for the night, or leaving for the morning, but not much can be done about that. The breakfast was your standard continental breakfast, plus bacon. I only had some cereal and juice, though. It's very short walk to a lot of Asian restaurants as well as Little Italy. Cabs don't roam down here though as much as they do in Midtown, so you might want to use a car sharing service if you don't wanna deal with the subway. All in all, a pleasant stay.

« Decent hotel on Manhattan »

We have traveled with some friends to NYC and decided to take a hotel with reasonable price on good location. Hotel Best Western met our expectations, very good location between Little Italy and China town . Many restaurants and bars nearby. Friendly staff, room service ok, breakfast choise to improve.

With steady improvement of the Bowery and Chinatown neighborhhod , a hotel in the vicinity needs to provide the basics and will surely have a promising futire in the near-term, which was certainly the case with the Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel in New York. Only caveat is recyling, as advised. Keep up the good work - dcdc

    « Very Clean »

The front desk staff was excellent during my arrival as I was a tad too early for check in time, but found a way to allow my daughter and I to check inn at that time to avoid ant waste of time touring arguably the best city in the WORLD! The room was very clean and the housekeeping kept up a very good attention to detail during our stay. Internet Wi Fi was very speedy, breakfast was very good. I would stay there again if I ever visit New York again as it is conveniently located near the subway station to get to and from Times Square.

    « Great stay! »

I discovered when looking for a hotel in New York that most of the hotels there are absolutely overpriced! I find the this hotel online and it had a great price and the location is perfect. It is located in China Town, just a couple of steps from Little Italy and very near Soho! The staff is very friendly, rooms are big and spotlessly clean! It's great that they serve breakfast because the food in NY is very expensive! I would defenetly recommend this hotel to everyone!

    « Great Central Location »

I have to say that I was a bit concerned about this hotel at first; however, I was very pleasantly surprised. This hotel is very near Little Italy so there are great restaurants and night life. This hotel was convenient to get to subways and really in the middle between uptown and downtown so a great jumping off point for both popular touring areas. This hotel was reasonably priced and better than staying mid-town where hotels and food is much more expensive. The hotel is nothing spectacular but it was clean and the breakfast was good. The best part of this hotel was the front desk staff that were so helpful, especially Jeffrey!! Thank you.

    « Don't ask for late checkout. »

Hotel is clean and rooms are decent, coffee is 24/7 and excellent. We ere told checkout was 11:30 a.m. And asked for a late 2:00 pm checkout. We were told it woukd be an extra nights charge. We had been there 5 nights and had paid over$1,000. Would have been an additional $200 plus charge for the couple of hours. We feel that other hotels at comparable pricing would be more agreeable. So we will not be staying at Best westerns again.

« Our go-to place when in this area »

Husband and I have stayed at this property at least a dozen times in the last three years. Always pleasant, often given upgraded room as I am a Platinum BW program. Front Desk staff professionally friendly and helpful. Room clean, water hot, towels fluffy. Breakfast seems popular with many; not to my liking as it is mostly carbs. Chinatown/Little Italy neighborhood is interesting, safe, lively. Many Asian street vendors sell seasonal, interesting, fairly priced fruit and veg.

    « VERY FRIENDLY STAFF »

We enjoyed the location very much. Super close to the tube station, walking distance to all the cool areas like TRIBECA, SOHO, NOHO, LITTLE ITALY, FINANCIAL DISTRICT etc..... The hotel in itself is very basic no mass no fass however it has everything you need. B. fast all self service but once again nothing is missing. Room was very clean and spacious. All the staff was very helpful and friendly from the housekeeper, always with a smile, to the guys in reception. I would like to mention SEAN and JEFFREY with whom we interacted more and helped us planning our week in NY. If we will ever go back to NY we will definitely consider going back to this Hotel.

« Decent Hotel for the Price in NYC »

Stayed 3 nights for a pleasure trip to NYC. First time I stayed in Chinatown while visiting. If you have traveled to NYC, you know hotels can be costly and small. I was pleasantly surprised by the large size and the decent cost for this room. The hotel is technically in Chinatown but only blocks from the heart of Little Italy and from the Lower East Side. My only issue was that the noise of the hotel went right through the walls. There were constantly doors slamming and conversations in the hallway that made it difficult to sleep, especially in the early morning.

« Price worthy hotel in lower Manhattan »

It was a clean hotel with great people at the front desk that helped us with getting to places. The room was small when comparing prices at the time this was the best choice. We were not disappointed. A nice place at the back to sit outside and have you breakfast made us a good start of the days we stayed there. Of course, the weather was beautiful at the time and that helps.... ;-)

    « Family Trip »

We really liked the location of this hotel! You can take 15-30 walk to SOHO, Brooklyn Bridge & 9/11 Memorial or the subway station is close by. Great dinning options close by in China town and Little Italy. Front desk was very helpful providing maps and directions. Free hot breakfast & wi-fi were nice perks to have at this location.

    « Money stolen! »

I had over $600 dollars stolen from my suitcase. The safe was broken and when they sent someone up to fix it he took the door off with a screw driver. I was reluctant to reuse the safe. The morning of my departure which was the day after the safe was broken, I found that my suitcase had been gone through and the $$ was missing! The manager blew me off by not calling back and when I called again he had lost my room number and phone number. He had no intention of calling me back. The should beware as they have a theif in their midst!

Just inside Chinatown and two blocks from Little Italy makes it a great place to stay , close to 9/11 Museum and the harbor ferries for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. While we were there they had a street Festival -Feast of feasts -Lots of good food & music.

« Fantastic hotel and staff. »

We arrived at our hotel after a delayed flight at around 01:40 in the morning. Was greeted by Stanley on the reception. He checked us in quickly, told us all we needed to know in a speedy time. He was really nice, friendly and so helpful. After we went to our rooms we went back down the use the hotel computers. Stanley was so helpful and even rebooted the computer for us as it was running slow. He even helped us print off our tickets to see the New York Yankees that night. He also advised us all about the metro, gave us a metro map and a map on the city as well. This guy was fantastic and a delight. The rooms were very nice, clean tidy and of a very good standard. We was on the 7th floor. Had a tv and free Wi-Fi in the rooms too. If I was to find a fault I would say our view was of the back of the hotel out of the window, but that's about all. The free breakfast was very good too, tea, coffee, orange & apple juice to drink. Porridge and cereal too. You could toast your own bread or bagel. Make you own waffle too. And little cakes and omelettes too. The breakfast was outstanding, I have had worse at other hotels that cost more than this place. And on nice days you could eat your breakfast on the roof terrace, which was a very nice experience too. This was a fab place to stay and I would stay there again. All the reception staff were fantastic and so so helpful. Not once did I get that look, that I have heard that question 1000 times' kind of look. They were all very happy. I even had a late night chat with one of the managers. She was from London too and was so polite and helpful too. Overall this hotel was great and was also great value for money too. It was close to 2 metro stations and within 15 minutes you was in Time square. I can't think of a bad thing to say about this hotel and there staff. Top rate 5 stars from us.

    « Great staff - great stay »

September 2015 - girls getaway. The moment we stepped off the elevator we were greeted by Sean welcoming us to the hotel. He had us checked in in no time and answered all our questions. The room was perfect and the beds were really comfortable. The breakfast area is clean and the selections are constantly replenished. You can eat inside or out on the rooftop. We were surprized at how many guests would just get up from eating and leave their mess behind for the staff to clean up. Note: The breakfast is free but if you appreciate the way she keeps the area and food filled, give her a tip. The hotel has good room internet access and there's a computer and printer in the lobby for guest use. The hotel is in Chinatown on the edge of Little Italy. There is a subway stop a block away. A taxi to town runs between $15 & 20. The coffee is always on. Need a teabag? Just ask. Need directions, a cab, hop on/hop off bus tickets, tour info? They do it all. We would definitely return to this hotel and we can't say enough about the service we received from Sean, Jeffrey and Hugh.

Very pleasant stay. We were there for a day and we had no complaints. The room was great, bed sheets were spotless. Hotel is located at a very convenient location. All the staff we encountered were friendly and we'd happily come back again.
