Lovely experience. Great breakfast, Very welcoming staff and owners. Would highly recommend. Our rooms were excellent and everyone was very helpful and accommodating. Big thank you to Gavin for the guitar fix and most interesting lesson in morse code!

Sadly we visited Melton Mowbray for a family funeral, obviously a very emotional and stressful time. We booked our accommodation and the funeral wake at Sysonby Knoll and could not have made a better choice. Our every need was met, nothing was too much and the exceptional staff ensured we could focus on family without a single worry about anything. The buffet was absolutely on point and extremely excellent value. To ensure freshness of food, approximately half was put out when we arrived (the remainder retained in cool store) and then topped up constantly as required. Tea and coffee was included and once again constantly topped up to ensure it was freshly served. Considering our circumstances for this visit we could not have asked for anything more. Amazing and professional staff who we sincerely appreciated.

One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in (I stay in a lot as I travel for work). Personal service, beautiful location & nothing is too much trouble. Rooms are exquisitely decorated, breakfast is perfect & best of all the amazing service from staff. Can't wait to go back.

A busy season - hotel had many people for Christmas meals. Nevertheless nothing was too much trouble and service and food was exceptional. Lovely decorations as well. Was given an excellent rate. I was also in and out due to meeting friends but never felt I was putting people out.

This is an excellent hotel. Friendly and efficient staff, a wonderful chef who gave us an exceptional and very reasonable priced dinner, and the place was very clean. An added bonus is that the gardens are very large, with great views. Just what you want from a traditional hotel on the edge of small town, with views of the surrounding countryside. We came for two nights to attend a wedding and loved it.

We had a family get together for lunch for 12 of us. The service & food were excellent, the staff were friendly & very efficient. 10 out of 10. A few of us also stayed overnight, excellent. Would definitely stay again.

Myself and three friends travelled from Bedfordshire, Essex and Yorkshire to meet here for the weekend. The price was very good, and I wasn't expecting much! However, I can thoroughly recommend this place. Our rooms were big and clean, bed extremely comfortable. Nice bathroom. Kettle, tea, coffee etc provided. Nothing fancy, but just right. After check in, we were lucky enough to have the weather so we sat for a few hours in the beautiful garden and had some prosecco. We stayed for dinner and we were blown away by the quality of the food for the price. We loved all of it and the service was also fabulous. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff are the absolute stars of this place. We had some drinks in the bar - good selection of spirits (would have loved a cocktail or two). Breakfast was good; again fabulous and friendly service, and lots of choice. If I were ever in Melton Mowbray again I wouldn't hesitate to stay here.

The Sysonby Knoll is a wonderful, niche hotel set in beautiful surroundings. The staff are second to none, professional, friendly and welcoming. They spend time with you to ensure your stay is above and beyond. I'd highly recommend this hotel to all without hesitation.

Lovely hotel with great staff and perfect setting a stones throw from Melton Mowbray. Jude was really helpful calling ahead to let us know about our dinner options and times to book in for evening meal. Perfect beef wellington and Aspall cyder. Highly recommended thanks to Julie, Jude and Emma and all the staff.

The executive summary is this: My wife describes this as the most relaxing hotel we've stayed at in the UK. She's not wrong. It's a delightful place. One that I would most definitely look forward to staying at again and to which I offer the strongest recommendation. Is it without flaws? No, but none of them are killers. The staff are generally very helpful and accommodating. The hotel's own description is accurate. The public areas are well done, the gardens exceptional. Scenic and very relaxing. We had great entertainment watching one guest work with his German wire-haired retriever by hiding its retrieving dummy in the bushes whilst the dog had to sit quietly where it could not watch. Yes, the hotel is dog-friendly. We walked into Melton Mobray and back. Google Maps says 14 minutes; if you don't stop to look at things on the way that's accurate. It's not a hard walk but if you chose to ride an Uber is pretty cheap. We had an executive room in the annex which was clean, well-appointed and spacious. It was also very quiet. There was a very nice patio but we could not use it as we learned the door was a bit worst for wear and should not be opened. My wife sat in the gardens instead, and loved it. Unlike some "older house" Best Westerns this hotel has more than ample parking. I liked the fact that the main car park is locked behind a sturdy gate from ~2300-0700. Breakfasts were part buffet-style, part served (cooked) and I can't find fault. 10/10. Evenings: If I were writing this review based on our first night's experience it would not end on a high note. Food service was glacial; the "chef's" interpretation of a green Thai curry was stir-fried chicken and veg over a plate of rice with a small bowl of chutney that I suppose made it a curry. Not a bit of curry paste or coconut milk to be found anywhere. Sorry, that's a fail. The second night was markedly better, speedier service with hugely improved food, photos provided. When we visit next time I will just ascertain if it is a normal chef's night before we commit to the restaurant. I sincerely doubt anyone would regret staying at this hotel.

One of the friendliest and comfiest hotels we have stayed at - very home from home. Highly recommend due to; great staff, comfy room, nice amenities, great location, tasty food, good value for money.

Stayed at Sysonby Knoll for only a Saturday night but, wished we stayed there longer. Situated minutes from Melton town centre. Lovely looking building, Pleasant and friendly staff, nice interior decor and pleasant room. Gorgeous gardens at the rear overlooking Melton mowbray. Got to mention the evening meal we had, absolutely delicious, one of the tastiest Lasagne' i've had in a long while. A Lot of the food served is locally sourced too. All in all, My partner and i had a delightful stay and will definitely stay again.

Excellent Sunday lunch for our party of nine people, good range of options and great value for money. Pleasant and attentive service, lovely gardens to relax in before and after lunch. Thoroughly recommend this venue for a celebration meal.

We stayed here for three nights over a weekend, as we had a family wedding in the nearby area. We had a Deluxe Room, with a Four Poster Bed, which was super comfy. The room was a really good size, with two comfy chairs, windows that opened fully, dressing table, wardrobe etc and a large bathroom. Outside our room was a small sitting area which also had a Grand Piano, though wouldn't know if it was playable! Our room overlooked a beautiful garden, which we often sat out in with a drink. The food was excellent and great value too. Staff were lovely and friendly, in fact I'd be hard pushed to fault it!

Comfortable well appointed room with plenty of light. Both evening meal and breakfast were well presented and service was excellent. Good grounds though it was quite a walk into town - take a car if you can cope with the traffic in Melton.

All the hotel staff are helpful, friendly and professional. The hotel has a nice relaxing ambience. The food was fresh and delicious, very good value for money. Our room was wonderful, very spacious with views overlooking the rear garden and river.

We went here to celebrate a family member's birthday. The outside looked ok but on entering it felt a little outdated and could do with a revamp. The lounge area was small but ok to sit in for pre-drinks. We arrived a little early, so the restaurant was in darkness. Having asked if we could put some party sprinkles etc on the table they kindly put the lights on. We sat down to eat to find we were the only people in there and this was a Saturday night. The person working at the bar was also the person taking our orders and serving our food. It seemed strange having such few staff around, but obviously that more was not needed. Two menus offered lots of choices and we all went for 3 courses. The starters varied in size, which was a bit unusual... id never seen so much prawn cocktail on a plate and such a small portion of Calamari. The mains were piping hot, so hot we couldn't touch our pies for some time and way too big for one to eat, they'd have been more suitable for 2 servings. Throughout the meal, we could hear music coming from the kitchen but nothing in the restaurant. The room was pretty bare and being the only people in there contributed to a total lack of ambience. Of course, we had a nice time, being all together to celebrate a special birthday, but did the venue make it extra special?? Sadly, not at all. Will I go again? I doubt it for two reasons, firstly because it needs to be modernised and secondly because I can't see the hotel surviving if it's only has one booking on a Saturday.

Amazing weekend again. Our 3rd time back this yr Beautiful comfortable rooms, we tried 2 of the four poster rooms just lovely. Very clean & bathrooms lovely. amazing owners & staff who go above & beyond to make your stay enjoyable Lovely restaurant for breakfast & dinner Haven't had lunch but all food that we have had was just lovely especially the December menu Just can't say enough about this beautiful place, lovely gardens & rooms to sit & relax with a drink or just chat/read whatever you like to do All around excellent experience on every trip & can't wait to be back again Thank you to you all for making our trips so memorable & comfortable

Stayed here for 2 nights while the Christmas Market was on. Hotel was spotless, staff very friendly and helpful, room was well appointed. Star of the show was the Restaurant - excellent meals on both nights, good portions, varied choice and very tasty. Would happily stay again if in the area. Grounds looked nice for a summer evening walk / drink but too cold in December.

excellent setting with beautiful views of the garden and fields. staff are fabulous and went beyond to make our experience extra special as we had our family join us for breakfast. child friendly in the restaurant too. excellent value and rooms are lovely and clean. if you like an old world feel with a cosy fire, this is for you. parking on site too which is a huge bonus and in walking distance to town. we're both over 6ft and of a larger build, our bed was too small but didn't think to check prior to booking so know for next time as we will stay again.

One of our favourite destinations. This hotel is always welcoming, with friendly, efficient staff, clean and comfortable rooms and superb evening meals that compare most highly with many hotels where I stayed in the past on business, both in the UK and around Europe.

Stayed 2 nights and this Hotel, it was perfect for our needs staff were wonderful the room we stayed was beautiful and meticulously clean. The service was excellent lovely choices on menu at very reasonable prices, the foyer has al ot of lovely art on the walls making it a homely feel, decor is all good and would definitely recommend this Hotel

We spent 4 nights at Synsosby Lodge on a cycling trip. We had an excellent superior double room which was a good size and very comfortable. The hotel stored our bicycles safely in their garage. The one disappointment was breakfast. The cooked breakfasts were freshly prepared and looked good, however the promised cheese and ham was unavailable throughout our stay. There was no bread or rolls available - just sliced bread toasted.

Building has lots of character, well maintained & furnished nicely. Staff vey helpful & friendly. Food good & reasonably priced. Good views from back rooms. Very cosy & well appointed. Convenient for the town.

I've stayed at this hotel on many occasions over the last 20 years. I've never had a bad experience with food and the staff being excellent. I only stayed the 1 night this time but still received the great service I have come to expect.

When we drove into the car park of this hotel I couldn't believe the delightful setting. The grounds are expansive, delightful .. it's like staying in the country. We had a very large dog friendly room for us and a small dog. Yes the decor is a little tired but all the staff are so helpful and the overall feel of the hotel is so friendly, so I didn't look at the "wall paper" We had a lovely one night, meeting lovely families so our little dog was in his element playing in the grounds with children. A win win situation all round.

Reaching the hotel near mid night from London, being very tired from the journey, this boutique hotel instantly refreshed us just by entering the reception area. Room was huge and had ample space with king bed. Bathroom was also very nice with a working bath tub. We could see the fields from our window which was another added advantage. Overall, great property, awesome ambience, very helpful staff! Really felt at home

Checked into the hotel and met up with friends. The rooms are of a good size spotlessly clean and tidy.Staff are friendly and obliging.The hotel is on the edge of Melton and just a fifteen minute walk away from the town centre. The hotel seems bigger than what it actually is and has extensive grounds. The bar is small but functional , there are several different areas to sit in. The dining room is bright and airy and not overcrowded. We had dinner at the hotel served by Lyndsay and Elizabeth and chef Susie, the menu offered a decent choice and not pages and pages of fare. Everything is homemade and cooked to order so there was a short wait. What was presented throughout the meal was hot very tasty and well presented. And value for money. Breakfast was multi choice, and cooked to order and was delicious and just right for me. I would without doubt recommend the hotel and would stay here again if I was in the area.

Very friendly and welcoming staff. Excellent food and a good choice of both set menu and daily specials. Comfortable lounge and seats outside in the garden. The room layout is a rabbit warren and is key secured within the courtyard. The bed was comfortable and the windows opened wide which was useful as it was one of the hot days in July. There's a choice of serviced or unserviced which is good during Covid - you just ask for more towels, tea, coffee etc. The only slight downside is the car park is quite small and as the hotel is used for weddings and by non residents, this could be a problem. Gates are also locked at 11pm and there is no-one on site overnight (but on call).

My husband and I and 10 month old Dilly dog stayed 1 night on our way to Lincoln. Everything about this place is lovely, the atmosphere, the friendliness of the owners and staff, the food, and the grounds are just beautiful, plus a lovely riverside walk in a paddock for your dog. Our room was very good, comfy beds, a blanket for Dilly with bowl and biscuits, and a pleasant view of the courtyard. Dinner was very good and reasonibly priced, and Breakfast was tasty hot and freshly cooked. If you are looking for a dog friendly hotel, this is one to try, we all enjoyed our experience very much!

Really beautiful setting, grounds are lovely and stunning in the sunshine! Our dogs were allowed to stay in the room with us, and we were even left a fleece, bowl, mat and welcome biscuits for them. Staff were really friendly and accommodating and facilities were good…shower was powerful, bed was a really good size and spacious enough for two adults and two dogs. Food and prices were reasonable.

Stayed overnight to attend small wedding reception held in the grounds. I have stayed in many Best Western hotels around the country as like the standard and quality that the chain offer but this hotel was different as if felt more like a family run hotel who really cared about their guests and always went the extra mile. The lovely cleaning lady on Saturday morning with a big smile on her face after I dropped my litre of water all over the landing, not a problem, the gentleman (Gareth, I think) helped with advice, cable ties and scissors to help decorate my car, and his son later in the day even though they were in the middle of completing their own project both happily stopped and gave their time to help. The biggest thanks has to be to Jude and the ladies working from breakfast and through the day always going the extra mile and the food was prompt and delicious. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would happily return with my family as offers everything you need for a relaxing comfortable stay.

The Hotel is warm & welcoming, gardens & view stunning. Public areas in hotel are spacious & plentiful. Restaurant food is excellent. Staff are friendly & helpful with good service. My room was not in a good location and was noisy. Lucky it wasn't raining as had to go out of hotel to gain access! Might be chilly in the winter...However, would stay again if in a different room.

We spent 2 nights here and will definitely come again if we have other things to do in the area. A warm welcome from the man on reception was followed by really friendly service from every member of staff throughout our stay. We had a beautiful and spacious room with a four poster bed, sofa and easy chairs. The bathroom was large too and everything was in good working order. The gardens are just beautiful and you can tell the place is well cared for by the on-site owners. Breakfast was cooked to order so was hot and fresh with good quality ingredients.

First time stay at Sysonby Knoll for a 2 night mid week break. Very helpful and friendly welcome. Allocated a nicer room than expected when booked so we were pleased with this. Modern bathroom, great shower but the towels were in bad condition, housekeeping staff should check as one towel was badly stained and one had a massive hole!! Management and/or staff always available. Good breakfast, not too much selection but adequate. No tongs for the croissants so chose not eat as unsure whether they had been hand touched by other guests. Restaurant for Dinner convenient for 1st night stay. Overall a relaxing break.

I spent 2 nights at this hotel. To be honest my first impressions were that the public areas of the hotel are rather tired but I decided to look on my stay as pretending I was staying with an aged relative in their character country home. The room was lovely and clean with a comfortable four poster bed and beautiful views over the lovely gardens. Bathroom was nice & a good size. All the staff from reception to housekeeping were so friendly and helpful, and made my stay very relaxing. Food at breakfast was of a very good standard. The hotel is walking distance from the town centre. I would recommend Sysonby Knoll.

There are some positive reviews of the hotel on TripAdvisor and I expected it to be decent but was very disappointed. The main problem was the food. I ordered a burger for dinner and I think they'd left some sort of cleaning fluid on the plate so I had to spit it out. Not something I've ever felt the need to do before n any of my travels. There were also some long dark hairs sticking out of the burger. I feel repulsed thinking about it. The bottle of Peroni tasted fine but was warm. I mentioned the hairy burger to the waiter who cheerfully said “oh, ok. I'll pass that on to the kitchen.” He definitely took it in his stride. The room was a bit threadbare and the shower didn't work well but it was quiet. It's nice to stay somewhere with more character but based on my experience it's terrible. Don't do it. And if you do stay then give the toilet duck burger a miss and order a pack of salted peanuts.

Lovely room with good facilities, comfortable bed, unfortunately the room was very warm. Very good breakfast and dinner. Beautiful views from the dining room and lounge, lovely gardens. Would stay again if in the area and would recommend.

Very nice hotel - clean and tidy. Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was very good and the breakfast room has a beautiful view - nice start to the day! It is a very beautiful old building but has been updated in the right places for example the bathroom in my room looked brand new.

This hotel offers great, friendly service in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. You can feel at home here to come and go as you please. It was spotlessly clean, in the room and the public areas. In the Spring and Summer the garden is really lovely with a view of the countryside and river. The food is one of it's best assets. We ate in the restaurant every day of our 4 night stay and our meals were faultless. Just extremely good homecooked food. Very generous portions, piping hot and so tasty. We had the best roast beef and yorkshire pudding one night and gorgeous apple pie and custard. We would definitely recommend it.

This Hotel really made our break just brill. The room, service, friendly staff, food, drinks and surrounding gardens overlooking the river. Our dog just loved it there. Ideal place to stay to visit Melton Mowbray. Definitely will use again.

Very nice well run hotel ,with helpful,friendly staff on hand.On the whole a quiet relaxing environment throughout the hotel,very good variety and quality of meals available via a main menu and daily options ,with a good breakfast choice available too.The rooms are kept very well as I've now stayed in three separate rooms within the premises One very minus for me as a light sleeper is the occasional HGV passing by causing disturbance late night/ early morning.

We were presently surprised with everything. The pictures online don't do the hotel justice, its much nicer in person. Everything was very clean and staff were welcoming and helpful. The food options were fantastic, hot, fresh, presented well and great service. The rooms were presented well but unfortunately our bed was very firm which didn't make for a great nights sleep but everything else was super.

We needed a short stay away so chose Sysonby Knoll again, as it's just over an hour from home. This was our 2nd time here, but in a different room. On our first stay we had a lovely room which was outside the main building, due to mobility issues, but this time I thought I would try room 8 as I knew it had a great view to the back, over the fields and river. Again, the staff couldn't do enough for us. Even making sure I had blueberries for breakfast on our 2nd morning, and a suitable dinner for myself, having gall bladder issues. We definitely recommend a stay here

Our two rooms where absolutely spotless. There was a special blanket, water bowl and a dog biscuit waiting for our dog. A lovely welcoming touch! All the staff were very friendly and made us feel that nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely stay again when next in the vicinity. Only downside was the pillows were not particularly comfortable.

We were recommended the hotel by Brockleby's Pie who were visiting nearby (5 minutes drive away). There is good parking at the hotel. The hotel is situated on the edge of Melton Mowbray and would be a good base to visit the area. The hotel overlooks the Leicestershire countryside with great views from the restaurant and garden. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The hotel is functional provides a decent room, breakfast and WiFi. The evening meal was good and value for money. A good choice if you are in the area.

Having visited the hotel previously for lunch and afternoon tea we opted to stay at Sysonby Knoll as part of a StayPlayExplore package offered for tourism in the area. It was lovely, room very clean and comfortable and a sparkling newly refurbished bathroom was divine. It takes hard work to keep an establishment going like this and the effort is noticeable. Helpful and friendly staff make all the difference too. Parking area is a dream as is sitting outside but not on this visit, it was too chilly.

Ordered food, starter was poor, overcooked. Complained and then my main had no flavour what so ever, mash was all thick, microwaved and peas…well my god, we're they even peas. The manager was nothing but rude. Think some new staff may be on the cards?! None of them have manners. I am beyond fuming. Sort it out

The staff were very welcoming and helpful especially with the dogs. Really good food and very comfortable rooms. Grounds and riverside walk adjoining the hotel was ideal for dog walking. They even allowed to use a room to ourselves to take our meals in

Stayed for a weekend with three friends. The staff are lovely and efficient- they will go the extra mile to make their guests' experience as good as possible. Bar is simple but comfy- and the prices are reasonable for a hotel. Breakfast is simple too but is good quality. You are allowed to "reload" your plate if you wish, so it's well worth adding one or two items to your initial order- an extra hash brown perhaps? The staff were happy to let my friend "plant" a belated birthday present in my room before my arrival-it is appreciated. Hotel is very clean. There is a pleasant garden area - shame the weekend was so cold. Only a short walk to Melton Mowbray and could be a good base for touring the area.

You and your dog(s) can expect a warm and friendly welcome. Bowl, blanket and biscuits await you in your room. Dog friendly garden and a walk down by the river. Rooms imaculate and so clean. You will not be disapointed. Well worth the money

We stayed for one night in November 2021. The hotel and our room was very comfortable clean and well decorated. All the staff were helpful and keen to make our stay a pleasant experience. The hotel is in pleasant grounds and has good secure parking. It's located just a 15 minute walk into Melton Mowbray town centre. I would definitely recommend for a stay in this part of England

I can't say enough good things about this place hubby and I needed some where that would take our dog and this hotel does there was a dog blanket and a dog bowl with a couple of biscuits in the room our dog even got a sausage for breakfast the room was nice the bathroom had a big bath and a powerful shower and a good wifi signal there was tea, coffee and hot chocolate in the room. The breakfast was excellent we were put in the green room for breakfast as we had the dog which we were happy to do the staff were so nice and friendly I would definitely come back if I'm in the area again with or without the dog.

A group of 7 of us stayed at the Sysonby Knoll while on a pork pie making experience at Brocklesby Pies for a friend's birthday. Everything was excellent - rooms were very comfortable and quiet (although don't expect boutique hotel decor). The meal we had in the restaurant was really good and great value for money. The vegetables which accompanied the meals were also excellent and not the usual soggy after-thought you often get in hotel restaurants. Breakfast the next morning was also very good. Staff were great - they were all professional, friendly and very well organised, which is getting rarer in these times of staff shortages. Thank you.

As a group of friends we stayed at Sysonby Knoll following our pork pie making experience. All the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The service and the quality of our evening meal and breakfast was excellent. The rooms were comfortable and quiet. A very pleasant stay and will most definitely return in the future. Couldn't fault anything, staff were excellent, room was great and breakfast was wonderful. The views out of the hotel were great, overlooking well maintained gardens and rolling fields. Comfortable lounge bar.

We originally booked into the hotel just before the spring of the first lockdown on a prepaid, non-refundable, non-cancellable rate. Our booking was in association with the pork pie making experience at nearby Brockleby's which inevitably closed down through the successive lockdowns. Not only did the hotel continue to honour our original booking despite several cancellations and rebookings, but when we finally arrived there this weekend, more than a year and a half after the original booking, they offered us a £10 refund to use at the bar. The staff were welcoming and helpful, the rooms clean and comfortable, and the food in the restaurant delicious. This was our first visit to this part of the country. We would definitely return.

Hotel garden is a wonderful place for a drink prior to dining in the ‘renowned' on site restaurant-we were left wondering a little what was renowned for……we weren't able to book the favoured 1900-1930 slot but did book a slot shortly after only to be still waiting for our 45 minutes after our booking time…being kind I feel that like many other hospitality establishments, staff numbers are a struggle as service at both at dinner and breakfast must have been below the standards they expect from themselves… Hotel room itself was very comfortable and clean though..

A very enjoyable 4 night stay in this wonderful hotel with super countryside views. All of the staff were extremely helpful. I shared a spotless large quiet twin room with a garden view. Excellent food I suspect sourced locally, the bacon in my English breakfast yum yum. My bed was extremely comfortable in fact I meant to look at the make of the mattress but forgot. Honestly I could not fault anything in this hotel.

This hotel exceeded our expectations. Staff were fantastic, very clean hotel and in lovely surroundings. Extremely accommodating to pets which is always a bonus for us. We were made to feel very welcome and had a very relaxed experience.

In the pre pandemic days of 2019, my husband and I planned a cycle tour for our club members to visit the East Midlands. Because of covid, dates had to be changed. Changes were made without any hassle although there were 21 cyclists to house for 4 days and some for 5 days. The logistics and preparation for this group was no problem at all, neither for Vicky the hotel Manager, nor for Jenny, the hands-on Hotel Owner. Both were extremely helpful and made sure our stay was comfortable, not only for us, the organisers, but also for the cyclists who were so looking forward to travel after the long lockdowns. We believe that to run a successful cycling tour, the base is paramount. We could not have made a better choice. A warm welcome was had by all from a friendly and efficient staff, comfortable rooms and beds to rest the wary legs at the end of the day, pleasant lounges and garden to sit in after a day's ride to compare notes, and a tasty and copious dinner to replenish the calories spent on the Midland hills. The dinner menu was extensive for fussy eaters, vegetarians, pescatarians, etc... Every day a new menu was on offer with healthy and tasty dishes. As leaders, we were quite intransigeant on time-keeping in the morning. A very varied breakfast was on offer and served at our tables promptly so that everyone could be ready at the appointed time. We all went home refreshed having forgotten the Covid bluesy days and restrictions. A big thank you to the Sysonby Team!

We stayed as a group of 24 cyclists for 4 nights. What a lovely welcoming family, who spoilt us rotten with amazing 3 course meals. Our room was brilliant with a 6 foot bed We would love to come again, thank you to all for making our holiday special Beautiful grounds too

Stayed here with my dog as was visiting a dog show in Rutland. Highly recommend this hotel, fantastic location : great service, reataurant, beautiful views and walks from the terrace + near to the town if you want shops. Would definitely return ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We are Geocachers, and the owner helped us find the local Geocache on the hotel grounds. Everyone was friendly. Perfect room and a lovely area to sit and look at the view. Just a pity we had so much rain whilst we were there. Excellent value!

By and large the hotel justifies its good reviews. Comfortable and attractive in all of its public areas, expansive garden with plenty of places to sit, pleasant views. The restaurant overlooking the garden is delightful. Food good without being memorable. Staff efficient and friendly. Annex "Executive" room large, comfortable and nicely decorated but the view of a totally overgrown patio area (to which there is no access) was appalling.

Have had the most enjoyable few days stay, we were made very welcome. The staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were very comfortable, very clean and tidy. The food was excellent and the staff were attentive in the restaurant. Would happily stay again.

The staff were all so effecient, welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed a freshly cooked breakfast with quality produce. Dinner was freshly cooked with a great assortment of vegetables to accompany the maind.

We spent an extremely comfortable 4 nights here. Location ideal for walking into town but with a lovely outlook across very large gardens and fields beyond. Staff were very friendly, service very good and breakfast and evening meal menus offered a good range with daily specials also. Covid restrictions in place didn't detract from our stay and we felt perfectly safe. Staff were happy to offer recommendations for local restaurants and took a genuine interest in all their guests.

We arrive with our dachshund for an over night stay , we were all made welcome! We dined in the beautiful garden my husband is coeliac was well looked after . Every one was friendly & helpful. I would definitely recommend this lovely hotel .

We enjoyed our first stay at Sysonby Knoll last October and were eager to return as soon as covid restrictions permitted. Our room was excellent; clean, comfortable, spacious and very quiet. The breakfasts and dinners were substantial meals. At dinner, we chose from both standard and specials menus and enjoyed every single dish, even managing to leave room for some desserts this time. The staff are all very friendly, and efficient. Add in a final bonus of tea and cake in the beautiful gardens and the final result is a wonderful relaxing break. Thanks to all the staff and we'll be back in the autumn!

I have spent more than 4 weeks in Sysonby Knoll during covid. Staff is very friendly and willing to help. Very good breakfast and dinner. Meals are delivered to the rooms. Rooms are clean and warm. I am very happy with my stay in Sysonby Knoll and going to come next year.

Travelling during the Covid-19 pandemic was never going to be easy, but the staff at the Sysonby Knoll Hotel were kind and helpful, the directions on how to move about the hotel were clear and the things that couldn't happen (like staff coming into the room to service it) were clearly explained. The hotel grounds are extensive and very pretty. Melton Mowbray has plenty to offer with a small museum, lots of eating, as well as being the home of Pork Pies and Stilton cheese. Do visit the country park for pleasant walking and children's activities - and it's free, and with free parking. Most things shut on Sundays so look out for the only cafe in the town where you can buy your Melton Mowbray pork pie on a Sunday. It's clearly signposted!

This is a lovely hotel and we would definitely recommend staying here. It is deceptive in size and has beautiful grounds and gardens. The hotel is very dog friendly- from water bowls and dog treats in the room and bar area where you can eat with your dog. Staff are great and service spot on. Would stay here again.

We booked a 3 night B&B deal through Best Western for late September but had to delay due to illness. The hotel was very helpful and happily changed the booking to suit. On check in we were shown to a spacious and very comfortable room and informed of the revised procedures due to the virus. The procedures seem very effective without ruining our enjoyment of the hotel facilities. The bar and restaurant are very comfortable and the evening meals substantial - we only managed to have desserts once! The breakfasts were also excellent with top quality bacon and sausages and Wilkins of Tiptree preserves! Although we were informed the hotel is operating a reduced menu, we still had a good choice of dishes and the ingredients were of a very high standard. The staff were all unfailingly polite, friendly and very helpful. We were made very welcome and hope to use this hotel as our base for future breaks in the Leicestershire/Rutland area.

Booked a single night here to break a journey. All we had wanted was a quiet, clean and comfortable room (and of course sensible parking). We got all of that, plus a very warm and friendly reception when we arrived. C-19 protocols were first rate, without being over-intrusive. Dinner and breakfast were both very good. Stayed for our Sapphire wedding anniversary in the Thurman suite. Really lovely room with huge bed to climb into. Hotel doesn't look much from the road and could miss it. Don't be put off. Nice views to the back of countryside. Bit apprehensive with the Covid about but all precautions were taken. Sanitiser everywhere. Hotel is very clean and nicely decorated. Lovely staff. Garden is tiered with plenty of space to relax weather permitting. Could not fault this hotel and would stay again. 10 minutes walk into Melton Mowbray so that's a bonus as you can leave car at the hotel.

Honestly during this difficult world pandemic I was nervous to stay in a hotel,and to go away ..but I've never felt more comfortable,welcomed and safe as we did here .The staff were so caring professional and friendly. Lots of sanitising stations,everyone wore a mask and the room was spotless.Thank you to all the staff here .

The staff at the Hotel are really nice, clean rooms, some bits removed because of Covid 19, it's a short walk to the town centre. We had a beautiful cooked breakfast. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Just spent the weekend at this hotel and had the most relaxing lovely time, everything was just perfect, our room was huge and spotless as was the bathroom ate in the restaurant on the Friday night and it was lovely fresh and great portion size very good value, the staff are all very pleasant and helpful, Pete was great helpful friendly, big shout out to Lindsey behind the bar and serving breakfast she was cheerful friendly and had a joke with us, also have to mention Aisling who makes the best Liquor coffee and was also chatty and very friendly, really didn't want to come home and will definitely return, well done to all of you and a big thanks for making our stay so enjoyable.

Came for one night for our Anniversary. Was dreading it to be honest as I dont wear mask for health reasons and am fed up to the back teeth of being treated like a criminal. Relaxed as soon as i arrived. Covid secure but didn't challenge and I felt very welcome. Lovely food at evening dinner and breakfast was perfect. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was lovely and absolutely spotless Thank you to the cleaning staff. Overall lovely stay and would recommend.

Fabulous hotel, friendly staff, good food at a reasonable price. Beautiful surroundings. Room was very clean, tidy and well aired and spacious. Plenty of places to sit and watch the world go by. Well set out for social distancing, plenty of sanitiser and notices around. Town is within walking distance if you fancy a stroll or the bus stop is very close with a regular service. Me and my partners came away to Melton Mowbray for a weekend with our dog, we had a very warm welcome and couldn't do enough to make us feel comfortable, the facilities were really good, we had a meal and drinks and food was very nice and well priced, first trip away for my dog so could of been a disaster, however the staff at the hotel made it a delight, the gardens are beautiful, great safety measures in place to make you feel safe, will definitely be returning.

Our first hotel trip since lockdown - and we were very happy with our choice! The hotel took LOTS of care in terms of hygiene etc, yet managed to be hugely welcoming and looked after us brilliantly. It's slightly out of town (10 mins walk) but was a good base for wider destinations such as Belvoir Castle and Barnsdale Gardens. Special shout-out to Vicky and Elizabeth - probably two of the hardest working people in Leicestershire and yet they made us feel like friends throughout the stay. V happy to recommend.

Visited for afternoon tea on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The sandwiches and cakes were all delicious and were beautifully presented at our table in the garden. Excellent waitress service with top ups of tea and coffee made it a very relaxing and enjoyable afternoon.

Many thanks for a lovely stay. We could not fault the hotel. Fantastic building with a lot of character. We had an upgrade to a superb room with 4 poster bed overlooking the garden. The owner and staff were really friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. The breakfast and evening meal were excellent and a very nice pint of bitter. 10 minute walk into the town and also some nice walks around the hotel area. With everything going on at the moment I would not hesitate to recommend this safe and clean hotel and hopefully will be returning later in the year.

We stayed here recently for one night as we were attending a family funeral in Melton Mowbray. From the moment we booked, to checking out, the staff were outstanding and so accommodating. Our room was fabulous. We booked a superior room but were allocated a four poster room overlooking the beautiful gardens and countryside beyond. The room was well appointed, immaculately clean, comfortably furnished and included large, flat screen tv, iron, ironing board and hairdryer. Be aware, the latter mentioned items may depend on the room type booked. My sister-in-law was in a standard room but didn't have hairdryer. She was otherwise very happy with her room though. We opted to stay for evening meal at the hotel. There was plenty of choices despite the hotel only recently re opening with few guests due to Covid-19. Our evening meal was delicious, as was the breakfast the following morning. A previous review mentioned their room being a little cold. Just for info, the heating in the rooms can be controlled by the guest by a dial on the wall, which is what we did. We weren't cold but had got caught in heavy rain and needed to dry our clothes.... We would love to visit Sysonby again in better circumstances and stay a little longer. Despite the sad reason for our visit, we had a lovely stay and can't praise the staff highly enough for their excellent service. Thankyou to all at Sysonby Knoll, we hope to visit again soon.

Stayed one night for a function at Melton golf club . The room seemed very pleasant if a little cold. When we went to get ready for our evening out we found that there was no cold water from the bath tap plus the pop up plug in the sink kept jamming closed so we could not empty the waste water. Looking at the plug i would say we're not the first to have had these problems. This room should never have been booked out with these problems.

Myself and my dog had a really lovely two night stay at this hotel well. It has managed to retain the a feel of a country house family-run hotel. All the staff were professional and couldn't do more to make our stay comfortable. The hotel is spotlessly clean throughout. The restaurant serves up a good range of dishes and the meals I had was all very tasty. In addition to all this there are beautiful grounds that in the summer would be lovely to spend time in. Finally I have never stayed anywhere that is so dog friendly it was a lovely touch to enter the room to find a dog bowl with a complementary gravy bone already in it and even a throw left specially for the dog if needed. Thank you to all the staff, we had a lovely time

Very comfortable room, we were lucky to be upgraded to a superior one on arrival. Food both breakfast and dinner lovely. Staff were super, particularly Lindsay who looked after us in the restaurant. 20 minute level walk into town which was convenient. All in all a pleasant 2 day break in Melton Mowbray...Would certainly recommend Sysonby Knoll to anyone wishing to stay in the town...

We spent one of the most pleasant evenings at this hotel. The staff were extremely accommodating when we at short notice requested a table for 10. Chef was also happy to help with special menu for some of our party. The rooms were gorgeous, we opted for 2 four posters. Amazing with stunning views. Highly recommended

This is a lovely hotel in beautiful surroundings. It is about 10 to 15 minutes walk from the town. The hotel is very well run, the staff were all lovely, the room was spacious & comfortable and the breakfasts were great. Could easily recommend.

Just returned home from a great two night break at Sysonby Knoll. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly, looking after us and our dog. Room very comfortable and all facilities in working order. The breakfast was excellent, a good choice of continental followed by full English. Evening meals were amazing value for money for such good home made food. A unique comfortable hotel with a great atmosphere. A short drive away is Melton Country Park which was great for long dog walks and had very friendly community cafe.

Stayed one night for business. Food was delicious, and staff very pleasant and friendly. Breakfast was also delicious. The room was decent, bathroom was clean and modern. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. Probably one of the best hotels I've stayed in for business in a long time.

Stayed overnight at this hotel which is a short walk to town centre. Found the staff very friendly and welcoming! We were given a room upgrade which was much appreciated and the room was lovely. Very clean and homely with fresh towels, tea and coffee facilities, hairdryer and iron. We ate in the restaurant and sat near the window with views over the lovely garden. The food was excellent and portions very good. Mushroom soup very tasty! We were so full we couldn't fit in a dessert! Breakfast was also very good with plenty of choice and cooked perfectly. The staff are so nice here, we chatted with Jude who made us very welcome and also two other ladies who worked in the bar/ restaurant gave us advice on where to visit. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend. The hotel looks like a large house from the front but is so deceiving once inside. Beautiful gardens at the back and a terrace to sit on will be lovely in the summer but nice any time of the year. We had not been to Melton Mowbray before but found it a pleasant place with really friendly folk.

Stayed at this hotel for three nights to attend a family wedding in Melton Mobray.Chose to stay in executive room which was large and spacious with a good sized bathroom and situated in the annex next to main reception Lovely big bed although pillows a bit hard for my liking. The meals we had at the hotel were excellent I tend to be a bit fussy but was really impressed we noted that on the sunday lunchtime the restaurant was extremely busy and we can understand why the food is deliciously cooked and presented All of the staff are friendly polite and go out of their way to help you

A lovely hotel. Couldn't fault our stay. Booked direct with the hotel saving £38 against the £130 price of Booking.com. We stayed in the Easom Room with a huge four poster bed. The bedroom was spacious, clean and welcoming. We enjoyed our meals in the restaurant. Specials were two courses for £20. All the staff were attentive and professional. Would highly recommend this lovely hotel.

Brilliant dog-friendly hotel. £5 for 3 nights with bed, bowl and treats supplied. Other hotels who charge exorbitant fees for dogs, please note. The ones we rang didn't get our business. At Sysonby Knoll, there were no restrictions for the dog in public rooms except the restaurant, which is fair enough and we were provided with a lovely side room with a large table where we could keep our dog with us whilst eating. Although it was to the side of the main lounge and bar, staff were very attentive and we wanted for nothing.

We stayed for 1 night on 7th Nov 2019. It was a nice 15 minute walk into the town where we had to go to the pork pie shop! We had a cream tea (scone and coffee) when we arrived. Ate in the restaurant in the evening the food was lovely, only fault was the crumble it was microwaved so not a crumble more of stodgy but all courses presented lovely. Breakfast tasty but not a huge portion

We had a lovely Sunday lunch but I was a little bothered about the poor facilities for the disabled. The toilets were up a number of steps and though there was a banister it had not been thoughtfully placed. Also on the way out there was a step without a handrail whatsoever - this may seem trivial to those who are fully abled but can be a real hurdle for those with difficulties. Can I suggest the hotel reviews its facilities so that disabled customers can fully enjoy the stay? Thank you :-).

This was my first visit to this hotel. I travelled from Glasgow for a conference. The hotel is situated within beautiful, quiet grounds. All staff were genuine and friendly. My room was modern, spotless and comfortable had everything you would need for a hotel stay (hairdryer in the room and bathroom, kettle with assorted refreshments, good lighting, nice toiletries, fluffy towels, very comfortable bed with fresh linen, lots of power points, large TV with lots of channels & Netflix). My room was situated to the rear of the property with a well maintained courtyard view. I enjoyed a restful sleep with no noise from any other residents. Breakfast was fantastic and prompt, vast selection from the self service continental station along with table service hot breakfast options to suit everyone's taste...absolutely delicious. Restaurant view was onto a well maintained garden with rolling Check in and out was very friendly and easy. We'll worth the money for business or pleasure.

The staff are superb. I travel a lot and I have never encountered a more helpful or friendlier group. From the moment we checked in until we checked out everyone was great. We had a lovely Sunday lunch with relatives and great breakfasts. The garden is beautiful.

All staff members went out of their way to make us feel welcome; the grounds are most pleasant and the food and drink is very good value. We couldn't find a single fault and I would thoroughly recommend Sysonby Knoll. It doesn't feel like a chain hotel whatsoever despite being a Best Western. Finally, I don't write many reviews but uncharacteristically wanted to share my experience!

What can I say when everything was perfect. Visited as a group of 32 for 6 nights. Location great want to leave car behind bud stop within 120 yards. Secure parking. All rooms from single to executive and adapted. Large airy clean comfortable. The dining and breakfast experience not one fault to be found out of 32. Breakfast fresh cooked, nothing too much trouble, continental breakfast, fruit etc. Evenibg meal 10 stars plus. Service, presentation, always piping hot. taste. better than any Mitchilen star restaurants. Taking into account serving 32. Excellent hotel and resturant. Great staff always willing to help and smiling. Highly recomemded

Stayed for a friends wedding, arrive was ok breakfast fast was good. But rooms very dated and bed bugs to boot so could do with a major overhaul which didn't give us a good nights sleep or value for money

This was a very pleasant country house hotel with excellent welcome, friendly staff, good breakfast. Unfortunately the room was a little cramped for two people. The bar area is very cosy and there is an outdoor terrace for eating and drinking if the weather is fine. Generally a very good experience.

What a delight to find a hotel that's part of a chain that actually feels like an independent, which is totally down to the very helpful and friendly staff, from booking the room , to check in and dining at the restaurant, we couldn't have asked for friendlier more helpful employees. Having enjoyed a good overnight's stay with the dog a few years ago, we decided to break up our holiday journey by stopping off here for lunch and then just for coffee on our way home. We sat out in the garden - though I am sure we could have been in the bar had it been raining - and my husband delighted in the best Ploughman's he had ever eaten! I was able to take the dog right down through the extensive lawned gardens to the field by the river. The staff are so friendly and Vicky and Jonathan looked after us very well indeed. Looking forward to returning. A great place. Thank you.

our annual reunion was held this year at the Best Western and the experience was enjoyed by all. The staff were pleasant and very helpful in all aspects of our stay. The hotel itself has spacious gardens lounges and restaurant. The rooms were comfortable clean and well maintained. The evening meal provided several options and was of a high standard enjoyed by all. The group would certainly recommend the hotel and be happy to return Our thanks to Vicky and the staff.

Was booked in here for two nights for a business trip. Check in was quick and the receptionist happily swapped my room for a ground floor single room. Much appreciated. The room was a single but the bed was a 3/4 one so perfect size and very comfortable. The bathroom was small and compact and I would say that if you are on the larger side you would struggle in the shower and on the loo as not much wiggle room. I would recommend bringing your own hairdryer as the one attached to the wall in bathroom isn't the best plus gets incredibly hot on the pipe and will burn you. Breakfast was ok. I did ask for poached eggs but was swiftly given lightly fried eggs. Our meal was on the whole good and as my steak wasn't edible (there was no more left to cook)I was given my meal for free which was very generous of them so thank you. The grounds are lovely and peaceful area to sit out in. I would recommend and would stay again.

I stayed overnight with my son, as we were guests at a wedding where a lot of people were camping (I don't do camping...). Very pleasant staff, easy check-in, room was clean and well maintained, couldn't fault it. Check-out was equally easy. Would definitely stay again.

Just a note to thank you for the excellent hospitality on our recent visit. The food and accommodation were excellent and we were well looked after. All the guests I spoke to were most complimentary and I didn't hear any complaints at all. You even went out of your way to find garage space to lock away 20+ bikes every evening.

We stayed here for 4 nights for a wedding, not held at the hotel, and were joined by many others for one or two nights, with everyone staying on a Saturday night. We had a four poster room which was very comfortable, an excellent view over the garden and countryside and with very good breakfasts; eggs were particularly nicely cooked. Given the nature of the stay for most, what really stood out was how very efficient, flexible and helpful the management and staff were and how friendly everyone was, and there were a lot of positive comments from our family and friends on that. I had a reasonably valuable car there and the management were terribly helpful about its safekeeping. An excellently run, efficient and very friendly hotel which I would stay at again without hesitation; I can think of some rather grander establishments which could do with a lesson from Sysonby.

We are staying here for 5 nights on a business trip. this is my 3rd day and im already compeled to review this place. Even though i am put up in a room with a colleage in single beds, the room is amazing, bit on the small side but al the amenities we need. the bathroom is very modern and a pleasant environment to be in. the beds are comfortable and the staff are more than helpful. I requsted a double blanket for my single bed at around 10pm, 5 minutes later it was at my room, great nights sleep! The resturant attached to the hotel provides a delicious breakfast and an amazing filling main. Food is just generaly amazing whatever you order. I highly recomend this hotel to anyone who wants high quality at a very reasonable price! Also, vicky (possibly the hotel mnager) is just utterly amazing at her job and always pollite and helpful. while writing this in the hotel lobby ive just heard the phrase "unfortunatley we have to check out", this hotel is very well recieved by all!

We came to ride horses and took four rooms at the charming hotel. The ladies who run it could not have been more gracious and helpful. Every detail was looked after. My wife was happy with hair dryers, I liked the coffee and breakfast. Room 3 has a huge proper four poster bed and a beautiful view of the gardens and the valley. Absolutely stay here if I'm need of lodging in Melton Mowbray.

Sadly only stayed one night here but it was great experience. The room was huge, the bathroom sparkling and the bed comfortable. Its a hotel with lots of character and history, but with the all the modern touches. Its not in the center of town but that was a plus for me. The gardens were lovely even in the rain.

We were due to visit this hotel in December 2018 but were unable to attend due to a family funeral. When we explained to the hotel, at fairly short notice, they were most accommodating. They simply moved the booking to February 2019, same room, same cost. The weekend exceeded our expectations; our welcome by a delightful chap named Pete was warm and friendly. The room was spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The bar was welcoming and well stocked. The dinner on both nights was superbly cooked and very tasty. The staff (Pete again) were prompt, polite and friendly. The hotel and grounds were well kept and attractive. it was in every way worthy of a 4 star rating. The family that own the hotel keep a fine house and should be proud. We were in 32, 8-10/2/19

I phoned to enquire about some menus for a party I had booked. The lady on the other end was I felt she was rude, sharp and off putting, wanting to get rid of me. I phoned about 2:30pm. Now how was I to know the hotel was still busy with lunches still. I have worked in hotels myself So I know what it is like but you do not treat telephone customers like that, trying to brush them off.

Absolute quality from the checking in process to the final farewell. It was our idea of a hotel from an earlier era. BIG room with a perfect bed, stunning grounds, welcoming public areas where we expected to find a retired colonel enjoying his G&T and classy themed artwork throughout. By the time you add up all the included extras like secure parking, wi-fi that works and an outstanding full breakfast this place is outstanding value. And you're surrounded by really nice people.

Stayed here for reunion with friends. Can thoroughly recommend this hotel. The room was spotless and well equipped, the public rooms and gardens are delightful but best of all the staff were very friendly, helpful and very professional. We had dinner and chose the table d'hote menu we was delicious. We will be going again.

We stayed at Sysonby Knoll for 3 nights and we cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. The hotel is immaculate, room 2 is amazing, food was fabulous, staff were so attentive but not obtrusive. From start to finish fabulous!! Thanks to Jenny and her team once again xx Alastair & Jillian

Lovely place. Small & quiet. Rooms very comfortable. Very nice breakfast which is currently £11pp for cooked breakfast with cereals & croissants. Very helpful friendly staff. Did not have the dinner but the menu looked extremely appetising. Unfortunately only stayed one night but would stay again. Felt more than a 3 star.

A couple of us booked lunch at this delightful hotel as it was mid way between where we both live. It was easy to find, easy to park and we had a pleasant view from our table overlooking the garden. A three course Sunday lunch was excellent value, service was efficient and attentive and there were a number of places to have a post meal coffee in comfortable surroundings. A walk in the gardens followed and during warmer weather sitting outside for tea or a drink would be very relaxing and pleasant.

Stayed for 2 nights last weekend. This 3* hotel is better than some 4* hotels we have stayed in. As we entered the reception area you immediately get a very homely feel, this is a family run hotel and this is very obvious in a good way. We were greeted immediately and given all relevant information, we had booked an Executive Double Room No. 32 in annex a few yards from reception, a lovely large room with wardrobe, desk, cupboard with tea making facilities, sofa, coffee table, large flat screen television (it needed to be large so you could see it from the bed) chest of drawers, hairdryer and also an iron and ironing board which in many 4 and 5* hotels we have stayed in you have had to ask for. Bathroom good size with plenty of shelving space to put your own things on, good quality hand wash etc provided. All very clean. View over small car park (think used by staff) and then main road, no real road noise as window triple glazed. In main hotel 2 very comfy areas to sit in and enjoy the lovely view over open countryside and a 3rd in the bar area. If you are lucky enough to get table by window in restaurant enjoy the view. Breakfast was good once you understood the system, cooked full english superb. Evening meals were well cooked and presented in large portions and a reasonable choice and price. Car parking very secure, gate locked at 11.30pm and opened at 7.30am I think perhaps the car park our room overlooked may be used if you wish to use your car when gate locked. I would highly recommend this hotel and booking an Executive Room, well worth the money and all staff very friendly.

We have just returned from a two night stay at Sysonby Knoll hotel and I am struggling to write a review that adequately explains what a lovely place this is . What is so special about this hotel is the welcoming atmosphere. We just felt so comfortable and relaxed here from the minute we arrived until the minute we left. We had a lovely friendly welcome when we checked in and throughout our stay all the very hard working staff were friendly and helpful. Our rooms, which overlooked the courtyard were immaculately clean and equipped with everything needed . Dinner and breakfast were good , there is absolutely no chance of going hungry here ! The hotel has lovely gardens which lead down to the river , great for a stroll. There are plenty of seating areas in the bar and lounge to relax and chat with a drink. We are already talking about a return visit.

I needed accommodation at short notice and got weekday availability at the hotel at short notice. Easy to find on the outskirts of Melton Mowbray there is a large gated car park that is booked overnight. The hotel which has different levels has a real charm with seating areas dotted around to just sit and relax. The room was a good size with the normal facilities with free WiFi and a free view tv. There is a large bar and restaurant and the foot was reasonably priced and of good quality. All the staff were very friendly. The real bonus though is the beautiful grounds which run down to a river.

We stayed at the hotel on the way home from holiday to visit our baby granddaughter. Hotel staff very dog friendly, caring and helpful. Lovely gardens to relax in. Breakfast very good. We were in a room with a small double bed, upgrade to a superior room if you can.

My wife and I stayed at the Sysonby Knoll as a single overnight stay on way to a family get together on the East coast. All I can say is what a great place. Staff very friendly / hotel very clean. We had room 2 with the 4 poster bed - this room is HUGE -. We ate in the restaurant on the evening and for breakfast - great food and service all round. We unfortunately only stayed one night - this was far too short and we cannot wait to go back for another weekend.

Beautiful gardens, very friendly staff, good food and comfortable beds. What more can anyone ask for? They also have very secure parking which for us was important, having borrowed a friends car for our holiday.

A group of friends and I ate at the restaurant during a recent lunchtime. The food was really good , the views from the dining room very attractive and the service excellent. We didn't stay at the hotel, but on the basis of this visit, would certainly consider it.

Stayed here with our family (12 in all) last weekend. The hotel went out of their way to sort appropriate rooms for us and mde us all feel very welcome. The owners and all the staff we came into contact with were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were spotlessly clean and cosy and dinner was lovely. The hotel was perfect for us in every respect.

Stayed here as part of a group visit to the area. A delightful find with very comfortable rooms, terraces, gardens, good views and very good meals both at breakfast and dinner. It is the staff who make a stay at this hotel so pleasurable, they are attentive and provide a first class service no matter what is requested.

I stayed 2 nights and everything about this hotel impressed me. Polite, helpful and friendly staff, stunning gardens, breakfasts were perfect, as was the evening meal, and I couldn't find anything to fault with room.

We live a few hundred yards from the Sysonby Knoll so always go there for a special meal. The surroundings, service and quality of food is second to none. There were 5 of us and when we booked earlier in the week, the staff were unsure if they could fit us in on a Saturday evening as the hotel was fully booked. But they stayed in contact, phoned all the residents to see who was eating in and finally got us a table for 5. Excellent service. The meals are superb, great choice of menu, and a beautiful dining room to enjoy the ambience. We have never had a bad meal here and I would always recommend it to friends and family.

upon arrival we were actually showed to our room which I thought was a nice touch, room was perfect and bed really comfortable. All staff were friendly and attentive and couldn't anything more for us, always smiling and generally being helpful. Food was good, Ale was good as was the Garden will be back

Would visit again Vicky and her team made us feel welcome, and special, we stayed two nights in a nicely decorated and clean room, the food was good the waitering staff were professional, the grounds were pretty we had a relaxing time and were looked after very well. Would recommend

We visited the hotel for a group celebration and we have to say given we were a fairly large group, we enjoyed a pleasant meal and quick service. The team were pleasant and brought the food out to us quickly. The meal was enjoyable although for a summer evening, it would I think have been more fitting for an autumn night - but still tasty! lovely location and a super garden to sit out in with a drink. Thanks for a lovely evening.

A pleasant hotel with attractive gardens. The staff were most friendly and our accommodation in the Annexe, which to our liking is dog-free, comfortable and quiet. The only minus, through no fault of the hotel, was the somewhat overly loud strident group who tended to dominate the atmosphere during the evening and at breakfast to the detriment of other guests. We hope to return in the future.

I am really surprised by the positive reviews this hotel has had. We spent 2 nights here for a wedding and value for money wise, this is the worst hotel I have stayed in. The bed was tiny, so my wife and I spent most the night on top of each other. One of the worst nights sleep on our first night I have ever had due to the paper thin walls so you could hear everything either side of the room. We paid £116 a night for this. I would have paid about £55. Breakfast was no better, with small portions as if they were on a money saving exercise. Drinks at the bar were also expensive. Grounds are nice, which is part of the reason why I would pay £55.

Outstanding Hotel, the room was very comfortable. Very friendly staff, the food was great and there are great views across the local lands. It's very peaceful with lovely gardens to enjoy. I will definitely stay here again - thank you..*****

Everything about this hotel is great. It's well run by people that care, the garden is beautiful. Good breakfast. Staff all lovely and very helpful. 10 minute walk into town, we were going to the theatre. It is one of the cleanest hotels I have ever been in. Would love to return one day and dine in the restaurant as the menu looked amazing and experience the garden more as we didn't get time on this visit.

Friendly and helpful, for both human and dog. The only place my dog was not allowed was in the restaurant and since we could eat with her in the bar with the same menu as the restaurant, that didn't matter at all. The evening menu selection was very good and the drink prices were very reasonble. Beautiful, extensive gardens, so room for everyone. A secure carpark and only 10 minutes walk into the town centre. We stayed in a superior room (16) which had easy access to the outside for the dog without disturbing anyone else and though near the road, we were not disturbed by traffic noise at all. Would definitely stay here again when we're in the area.

I have stayed at the Sysonby every few weeks for work and it's great. Reasons why I like it: 1. They change the restautant menu regularly and always have specials (I'm away with work a lot and this is not the norm). 2. The food is brilliant. Breakfast is lovely. 3. Manager Vicky and deputy manager, Pete are lovely people. 4. The rooms are clean and spacious. 5. Reasonably priced. Overall it's very much a brilliant hotel with a great restaurant and decent rooms. I stay here regularly because it's good.

We visited this hotel as a part of a funeral reception. The hotel is ideally situated close to Melton Mowbray town centre and has wonderful gardens with a very scenic view. The waiting/reception staff were very professional and polite and the food presented for the reception very good. The parking is off road and secure with plenty of available spaces. Cannot comment on the rooms or cost as we did not stop here although would consider stopping here if visiting the surrounding area.

Stayed on business. I normally stay at a nearby hotel but thought I'd give this one a try. There is a really lovely garden which I spent the afternoon working in on my laptop. Food was great. Its a real shame that I hardly slept because of road noise and a strange constant screeching bird noise coming from the courtyard (room 25). If there wasn't such noise I would return as I stay in melton very frequently I seemed to be the only guest in the hotel...

We used the back room at the sysonby knoll for monthly business meetings for around 3 years. The staff were so helpful and couldn't do enough to help, the atmosphere at this hotel is like a family atmosphere. The back room is brilliant for business meetings and presentations, a great sound system, brilliant projector, everything is easy to use and the room can be theatre style or with round tables (square tables) the room fits around 50.

Very good Hotel based on the Price and quality. Not close to the city center around 10 min walk. Very comfortable bads. Breakfast very nice, you can choose from 2 basic option. Also hotel has free parking plases, but without camera control, so the car can be left in the yard, but on your own risk.

Nice atmosphere. Stayed with a wedding party and they were very accommodating. Food lovely, nice portions and very tasty. Rooms clean and tidy and slept very well. Staff very friendly and they also accept dogs (if just calling in advance). Will certainly look at staying again if traveling in the area.

Spent a long weekend at this small hotel, and thoroughly enjoyed the stay - friendly and helpful staff and good quality food. It is a good quality, exceptional value hotel that I would recommend. The only niggle would be that flannels (which should be provided with the towels) are not provided unless asked for.

Myself and my wife stayed the night on a visit to Melton Mowbray, we stayed in one of the four poster rooms which was lovely. Great staff who recommended local restaurants and made us feel very welcome. The only bad point was the breakfast which was classed as a full English!!! A full English breakfast in my opinion has more than dried up bacon, 1 sausage, a broken egg, a very dry hash brown and the smallest pot of beans. Don't let the breakfast put you off though because our room more than made up for it.

This hotel restaurant always has good food the staff are helpful and friendly ,car park, and easy access for disabled ,there is a bar and in fine weather there are tables outside , the grounds leads down to the river this hotel is well worth a visit

Amazing service, polite, professional and very helpful staff. Secured parking and room access. Rooms are very clean and neat, maybe a bit small but they have everything you need including free WiFi. Good size bathroom and very modern. Only comment is the portion size on the cooked breakfast. Food is nice and hot but a little stingy on amount. Overall a very good hotel, with great character. My next stay is already arranged. Hope this helps.

We enjoyed our company Christmas meal here. The building and layout of the rooms is impressive in itself and this year's festive decorations were lovely. The staff are always helpful and polite. The food throughout our choice of menu was delicious and I can certainly recommend the lamb shank. The vegetables were plentiful and extremely fresh. The crème brulee was so creamy and the sugar glaze a lovely light golden, just perfect. The goats cheese starter served as a cheesecake was very tasty indeed. A very pleasant evening was had by us all

Had a great pre Christmas weekend away here. Room was beautiful and clean. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Extremely dog friendly - left a bowl and treats in room. Good food. Drinks were very reasonably priced.

Heating very poor in room. Room was cold and could not make warmer. Staying on a snowy night it would have been nice to be warm. Corridors were freezing. Shame because this let the hotel down. Would use again if in area but only in summer.

I've had the pleasure to spend spent weeks at this hotel in 2017 and I'm happy to say that the things that really matter have always been consistent: * Friendly and welcoming team * Great service * Clean and comfortable rooms * Delicious food * Great breakfast * Sensibly priced bar with lots of choice I spend a lot of time (circa 100 nights) away from home each year with work so a hotel often becomes a necessary evil; not here - is it one of the few I look forward to! This hotel is very good. the staff are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble the rooms are clean and tidy and of a good size we would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely come back again. The only fault we have found is that the food was not that good in the restaurant and overpriced. By all means stay here but I would not recommend the food.

We stayed here for an overnight after a trip to the NEC. Hotel is clean and welcoming and even though a Best Western it felt like it was a family run hotel. Staff could not be more friendlier. The food in the restaurant was really nice and the views overlooking the countryside at breakfast are wonderful.

Very welcoming, friendly hotel. Easily able to accommodate my need for a gluten-free diet with a good selection of options. The hotel is spotless and the rooms are just fine. I have stayed here a number of times on business and it has always proved top quality.

Room was excellent. No fridge, but has everything else, including wi-fi. Spotlessly clean room and bathroom. Maid service every day and very good bedding. All staff were excellent, friendly and efficient. There is good car parking at the hotel. Lovely setting just outside town, with views of the Vale of Belvoir. We stayed when there was also a large reunion group. This did not impinge upon our enjoyment as the hotel coped admirably with the full house. Food great. My wife and I hope to return. No lift in hotel, might prove difficult for some.

Booked this hotel for 23 people, including 4 children and 5 dogs for a weekend. During the booking process, Vicky went out of her way to fulfil our wishes.The staff couldn't have been more delightful. Nothing was too much trouble and they were so helpful all the time. The food was excellent as were the rooms. They were spotless. They were very dog friendly and were allowed everywhere except the restaurant. The grounds are lovely and there is plenty of space to exercise the dogs. We found a superb walk along the river and in the fields. Will be back.

Just a great weekend. Feels like you're out in the country even though it's walking distance from the town centre. Smart but not fussy. Room was very comfortable, food excellent for the price. The staff are all very friendly, helpful and knowledgable. Definitely go back

Our visit to this hotel was for an annual reunion of about 45 people. Group bookings are often a challenge for hotels, (and often I fear for other guests) and our requirements don't get any easier, as we are now mostly in our seventh decade and more demanding in both the physical facilities and the sevice we expect. However, my wife and I are sensible travellers and hope we take this all into account. We have long since ceased to expect perfection wherever we lay our heads. We didn't need to make any allowances at the Sysonby Knoll however, the weekend was as perfect as we could expect and one of the best reunion weekends we have held from the hotel point of view. From arrival to checkout the service was exemplary, and individual requests were quickly and efficiently executed. How refreshing to see the manager helping out at busy times in all departments and not hiding in the office! We had 3 dinners in a private dining room, and the food was excellent by any standard, certainly not “mass” catering. Service was quick, accurate and very pleasant, and despite the numbers staff made every effort to see everyone had what they wanted. This is a well managed hotel,obviously cared for for by its owners, charging reasonable rates, and I would not hesitate to use it again either individually of for a corporate function.

We needed two rooms as we passed through Melton Mowbray. This hotel has three single rooms, to our surprise they were very comfortable and pleasant. The beds and bedding were comfortable, despite being a single room it was a reasonable size. The staff were very friendly, helpful and had personalities so could enjoy a conversation with them. Food was of a good standard and again impressed us. The grounds are lovely, unfortunately it was raining when we visited so could enjoy but in warmer months it would be delightful to sit out in the garden for a drink or meal. Overall very nice overnight stay.

Booked a large group in for DBB for one night. Initial booking by Vicky could not have been smoother or more helpful. We came in classic cars so secure parking was a bonus. The rooms, food and dining arrangements were excellent. I had a good feeling from the outset and was not disappointed. Excellent evening meal with brilliant service. Recommended and would use the hotel again. Jenny and her team should be congratulated for being so professional.

I had asked for a quiet room not facing the street when I made my reservation. The hotel had given me a room facing the street! I explained I would not sleep with the noise of the road and was given another room. It was not facing the street but on top of the restaurant. I could hear all conversations and laughs until 23.00. Then the noise of cleaning up the place. In the morning the staff started preparing breakfast with some music on and I was waken up at 7.00 by the noise again. The bathroom was very small and dated from the 80's.

Stayed overnight on business. Secure parking is a real bonus , excellent welcome from reception who walked me to my room. Beds comfy and bathroom had a decent shower and facilities. Would certainly stay again

The hotel was one of the best we have stayed in, Staff Excellent, Room great with lovely views over the garden. Dinner in evening was perfect as was breakfast. We would 100% be making a return to the hotel. as well as recommending to friends and Family. Big thank you to Vicky and her great staff.

Stayed here recently with some work colleagues. The hotel is a bot weird in appearance - it looks like a regular house at the front but the gardens at the back are lovely. The staff are great - very friendly and efficient. If all hotel staff could be like them the world would be a better place! The general public areas (bar etc) are a bit dated but clean and welcoming. I had a double room and it was great - clean, tidy, well equipped and very large. Lovely. The weakness is the food which is really very mediocre - especially the vegetarian options. The portions are large and everything was hot but all the meals I had were average at best - from overcooked eggs in the morning to tasteless main courses. In summary a great hotel to stay at but they really do need to do something with the kitchen to bring it up to the level of the rest of the hotel.

This is a family run hotel where the service is excellent and the food was superb, can highly recommend. We stayed for 3 nights and would certainly return again. The restaurant & bar overlook the beautiful gardens, a lovely relaxing place to have dinner. Really good value, definitely worth a visit.

Maybe the only BW Hotel that I have not visited before. Ample parking. Reception was fast . Room was large and clean. Loverly gardens to the rear these you can view while having you meals from the restaurant and only a ten min walk into the town centre.

This hotel has everything - the rooms are cosy, staff brilliant , beautiful views, really welcoming - food excellent - plenty of areas to relax peacefully - lovely furniture and decor - good parking and location - you won't be disappointed - nothing is too much trouble here - a perfect stay.

We visited this hotel to hold a family reunion for the second year. Had a great day, 20 in the party, greeted by staff and made very welcome, we had the 3 coarse lunch which was very good, food very tasty, well presented, very good value and the staff served the food with speed (still piping)very professionally and nothing was to much trouble for them. Definitely back next year well done to all that served us on Sunday, keep up the good work.

Stayed here with a group of work colleagues and the staff could not have been more helpful. On arrival the warm welcome lets you know you are in for a great stay. The rooms are well equipped for an overnight stay with everything that i needed. We all ate in the restaurant for our evening meal and the food was excellent with views out over the countryside. Breakfast was the usual selection of continental and cooked options. The one thing i personally liked was the cooked breakfast made fresh and brought to the table for you. Something a number of other hotels have lost with only offering breakfast on a self service option. Car parking is on site with gates closed during the night to offer secure parking. i would definitely look to stay here again if ever in the area again.

Stopped over night while in Melton Mowbray with my wife and our dog. Made to feel very welcome, and the food and service in the evening was excellent. Breakfast was also very good. Nice hotel, in nice surroundings and the staff are all very pleasant and helpful. This hotel deserves all the success it gets.

I was on a cycling holiday using this hotel as a base. I had an accident needing me to go to Casualty. They could not have been more friendly, helpful or accommodating. It was like staying at a private hotel. Waiting for me to get back from the hospital with a torch to get my luggage out of the car (I had not yet checked in to the hotel! - it was the first day!), luggage carried to my room and food and drink provided for me. They also provided shelter for our bikes. The Hotel itself was so homely but professional.....country house type communal areas, comfy beds, large shower spaces, quiet night's sleep, lovely gardens and vistas and good food. What's not to like!

Stayed with a group of friends Spring Bank Holiday had a brilliant time. Room clean and spacious, food in the evening delicious and plentiful, staff friendly and helpful. Group have booked again for next year.

A group of us stayed here on Saturday night before taking part in a cycling event. When booking I explained we would have six bikes with us and asked if they had any secure storage we could use. When we arrived they had tidied up on of the garages to make space for us. We had two dogs with us and were offered the private dining room so that they could be with us at dinner time and on top of that, because we had to leave before normal breakfast service, the team laid out a fabulous continental breakfast in the dining room for us to help ourselves. I don't think I've stayed in a hotel before where the whole team have been so friendly and helpful. I should also mention that the hotel is lovely and sits in beautiful grounds. We stayed here one night last weekend for dinner bed and breakfast. The room was great with all that we needed in the room and the bathroom. We loved the dining room in the conservatory with beautiful views over the lovely garden which runs down to the river. The set menu for dinner had great choices including beef Wellington which is my husband's favourite. The service was helpful but discrete and there was a lovely breakfast too.

We stayed there as part of a large group for three days. The bedroom and general decor were very good with lovely views from the restaurant across the gardens into farmland. The staff were very welcoming and the food was excellent. The only negative was that the hotel had been extended and remodelled resulting in a lot of interconnecting rooms, doors and steps.

We stayed here for one night prior to attending an event in the area. From the photos, I was expecting a county-house setting, but on arrival you can almost miss it: the entrance is tucked between houses on a residential street. It does have some very nice gardens, which we didn't really explore in the pouring rain! The staff were very friendly, relaxed and welcoming. Dinner was enjoyable, with very generous portions. Veggie options were a bit limited, but OK. Veggie cooked breakfast was just the meat-eaters' cooked breakfast with the meat left out, which was a bit ho-hum. Suggestion for the kitchens: there are lots of options for vegetarian sausages and so forth these days! Our room was very spacious and comfortable. Note to guests with mobility issues: there are a couple of stairs to go down to get from the reception to the dining room, so wheelchair users should check with the hotel management to see if there's a more accessible route.

Had a good weeks stay all the staff helpful and there was a varied choice of food which was well presented only comment was to much as only able to eat the main causes. Bedroom was very comfortable and the whole hotel was clean

We stayed here with a group of church bellringers over the Mayday weekend and were treated very well. The place is on a residential road out of Melton and the external appearance could best be described as plain red brick. However it is very comfortable inside and there is an old core to the building, although much extended in recent years. The bedroom we had in the Annex was very comfortable and well appointed. There are very pleasant, large and private grounds out the back leading down to a small river, with views of distant hills. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The food was really excellent, high quality and a good menu for dinner and breakfast. Best of all, as a real ale man, is that they sell beer from the local Belvoir Brewery by hand pump, which is unusual for a small hotel. We enjoyed our stay so much we are all going back next year to ring at some more local churches!

Stayed here overnight for family get together on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. Can only say we all really enjoyed our stay. The food we had in the restaurant was fabulous and nothing was too much trouble. With one very fussy eater we were very well looked after. There were lots of places to sit and chat and enjoy a drink or coffees and we were always made to feel welcome. The rooms we had were large and perfectly adequate although are probably looking to be updated fairly soon. We would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel.

A lovely family run hotel where a friendly atmosphere combines with attention to detail. The hotel has a variety of rooms and our 4-poster was comfortable well equipped and very clean. The food was tasty, well presented and excellent value for money and the evening menu changed daily. Lovely gardens and various small lounges make this an easy place to relax. Staff could not have been more helpful.

I visited the hotel on 29 April with 20 other friends on an outing. We stayed for 3 nights over the bank holiday weekend. Myself and a friend travelled by car arriving at approx 6pm. Initial reaction was good to the looks of the hotel. Set back a little from the road you drive past the reception into a rear car park. There was plenty of space on arrival but it can get very busy as the evening matures. The reception area is a small table in a very comfortable sitting area. We were met by a very nice member of staff who promptly showed us to the room. We had a superior double overlooking the court yard. Room 10. Very large and spacious. It had a a seating area, tea making facilities and a modern on suit bathroom. Our room over looked the bins. When we opened the window there was a ghastly smell of rubbish. Having mentioned this to the staff they closed the lid to the bins and the issue had gone. They responded very quickly. The only other criticism I had with the room is that it was too hot. We turned the thermostat right down and opened the window. It was still very very hot. The radiators were still pumping out heat. Next morning we had a continental and cooked breakfast. Just cause we can. A varied choice of cereals, croissants, fruit, yoghurts etc. The cooked breakfast had a wide choice of full breakfast, poached eggs, scrambled etc.... all cooked from fresh and very nice. We also every night had an evening meal. They managed to seat all 21 of us together. The meal had a choice of 4/5 starters, main courses and desserts. I particularly loved the treacle tart. Although my friend had key lime pie every night as it was so tasty. The meals were amazing. They managed to get all 20 dishes out together. All hot with hot plates, loads of veg and potatoes. It was all divine. There was always plenty and always extra gravy and sauce. Proper table cloths and nice crockery. The bar area is ideally situated between reception and the restaurant. I just had to get a drink. It was so tempting. Beer choices were limited. A couple selections of wine. Loads of choices of whisky. I managed a few. Could have drank more. The bar area had comfortable seating and not too large. Carpeted all the way through it felt very warm and cosy. The restaurant staff were simply brilliant. They would get your drinks from the bar, any extra sauces or similar requirements were instantly dealt with. Nothing was a problem. They were very friendly and always smiled. It made a difference. Checking out was swift and easy. Although I did manage to achieve quite a large bar bill. I think it was the bar staffs gentle persuasion that helped. Lovely people. I would definitely go back there again. Between the group we have exchanged many messages on how great the trip was and how brilliant the hotel was. So much so, we are looking at booking it for next year. A really friendly feel good place, with a family atmosphere and fantastic food. Thank you.

Executive double room in the annex was spacious and well equipped. Public areas were clean and comfortable. The staff were all friendly and efficient. Meal service was always prompt, and the food was tasty and well-preserved. Lovely grounds leading down to the River Eye. Going back next year!

Stayed at the Sysonby Knoll hotel for a long weekend with 20 friends. Had a wonderful stay, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The three course evening meals were promptly served, very tasty and beautifully presented. The cooked breakfasts were very good. The only very small criticism was that there was no apple juice, only orange and grapefruit.

Stayed during Friday evening in the annexe. Lovely quiet room. Quite dark decor but it was tasteful and clean. Breakfast room was light and airy. Cooked Breakfast itself was hot and tasty. Very friendly staff.

Another great stay at the Sysonby Knoll. Fantastic Food & staff. They always make our family get togethers a great weekend. Excellent evening meals quality food & drink and breakfast is just as good. Good priced drinks that can be enjoyed in the lounge. Plenty of onsite parking, free wifi, dog friendly and all in a lovely picturesque setting. Rooms are clean, well equipped & well maintained each room has its on unique design from family rooms to superior doubles. Makes for a lovely weekend away!

Not very big, but excellent hotel, restaurant and staff. Nice garden to use as an extension of the bar, if you're lucky with the weather! Car parking was easy on loose gravel, although not too good for pulling your suitcases.

Had a pleasant stay here last week. We had booked a deluxe king room, so had one of the 4 poster beds. It was nice but not spectacular. We arrived just in time for dinner so didn't notice the apparently unvacuumed floor until the following morning. It was a bit odd as otherwise everything was clean, but the bathroom floor had hair on it. The room was cleaned while we were at breakfast but I then had to ask one of the cleaners to come back and vacuum as they hadn't. Bit strange. We had problems with our shower the first morning, and could barely get more than a trickle out of it. We told reception and then went out for the day. When we came back we asked if they had had a chance to have a look at it, and were told that they hadn't because they didn't know if we were in our room or not. In other words the message had not been passed on. Why not just say that? We would have been less irritated, had she been honest. Apart from this one person, the staff were lovely. Someone, the manager I think, then came and fiddled with the shower, and it was much better. Not brilliant but usable. Our evening meals were nice, but breakfast was better. The dining room could be easily improved with table cloths. Especially for the dinner service. It felt a bit basic. It would have been nice to have either had something knocked off of the bill or a free drink at dinner, for the shower problem, but it was not offered. On the whole, it's a nice 3 star hotel, but not fantastic.

Booked using Secret Escapes deal. Room 3 is Amazing! The 4 poster bed is enormous, the room has a beautiful view overlooking the grounds. Food can't be faulted. And all the staff, without exception, were really lovely. I would certainly revisit and recommend this excellent hotel. We had booked 5 nights, ended up staying 7 as it was such a lovely place.

Sensible sized rooms, quaintly located around a courtyard. Possibly too quaint with hidden rooms and staircases. Very pleasant surroundings including open gardens with easy access. Good off-road secure parking. Used the Hotel for an afternoon meeting followed by an evening meal. Full presentation facilities available within a 40-50 seat private room.

Stayed 2 night's midweek. Bought it for husbands parent's for Xmas. Lovely hotel. We had breakfast which was excellent also had evening meal on both night's again excellent. Different specials menu each night, main menu and al a cart menu. So much choice. We walked into Melton Mowbray for the famous pork pies and wasn't disappointed. Was only 10 minutes walk from hotel. You could also walk round the lovely grounds of hotel or as you left the hotel their was other walks you could do. We took a drive to Rutland water's which was amazing. Also had a walk round oakham again lovely town. Their was hairdryer, iron& ironing board as well as toiletries. Tea coffee and biscuits in the room. All the staff were very attentive and friendly from checking in to checking out and nothing was to much trouble. Well done and thank you to all the team for ensuring we had a relaxing break.

I stayed for several weeks on business for 3 nights a week. The hotel and the service made me feel I was at a home from home, enabling me to both do what I needed to do work wise in the evening, and start each day refreshed and ready. The staff knew me by name, but were not intrusive or familiar in any way This is a family run hotel, and not just in name. I can recommend this hotel for the business user, and for those wanting a base for holidaying in the locality.

We stayed here for one night en route for the north and it was a very pleasant stay. There is a large secure car park in the grounds of the hotel which is always a bonus. Reception was warm, friendly and helpful. We had an extremely nice room on the ground floor which was very spacious with a super king bed, armchairs and table plus tea and coffee making facilities. It was nicely decorated and there was a good en suite bathroom. Dinner was very pleasant and so was breakfast and on both occasions the staff were delightful.

My partner and I met up with friends and we stayed here one Saturday night. My friend booked, so I can't comment on that process, but we paid £88 for bed and breakfast. It is quite hard to see from the road, but there is ample parking. Check in was quick. Our room was far too hard (23.5C!) but eventually we got it down to 20C by turning off the radiator and opening the windows. I appreciate it is winter, but this did seem a bit too warm. The bed was comfy and the shower had excellent pressure and a reliable temperature. I liked the inclusion of hot chocolate sachets by the kettle, but the tea bags (PG Tips, in individual envelopes) tasted odd. We spent the day and evening in Melton Mowbray and returned to the hotel for a final drink before bed. I don't understand why establishments serve tea in metal teapots with metal handles - it was too hot to pick up comfortably and by the time I'd drunk one cup and wanted to refill the teapot with the additional hot water provided, that pot was also still far too hot. A little thing, but annoying. Breakfast was a continental style buffet (croissants, cheese and meat, cereal, yogurt, fruit). You could ask for the croissants to be warmed, but they were microwaved rather then grilled so were a bit floppy. The hot breakfast (ordered once seated) was plentiful and tasty. All four of us ordered tea, which came in one (metal) tea pot. Just holding enough for one (small) cup each, we kept ordering more tea. It would be better if there were bigger tea pots available, or providing smaller individual-serve ones like the one I had had in the bar the previous evening. The hotel was decorated for Christmas, which was tastefully done, although the decorations did take up rather a lot of precious room on the tables! Overall, we had an enjoyable stay. The hotel is clean, with friendly staff, and I would stay here again.

We stayed on a Sunday night on a package deal. When we arrived the directions to the car park were not easy to see as it was dark. There was no one on reception and even after ringing the service bell we still had to wait some time before we could check in, The room was quite comfortable but initially quite cold for my wife, as no heating had been turned on. Dinner was a bit of a disappointment as the Sunday evening menu was somewhat limited and we did not fancy eating a selection of sandwiches that was offered on the menu. One of the steaks that we had was good and the other was terrible, and the Brie starter was disappointing as well. The breakfast was somewhat limited as well leading to our overall disappointment with the food offered by the hotel. Having said that the staff were friendly and the views over the valley were lovely.

I picked this hotel due to its location and reviews on tripadvisor. we booked an executive room in the annex just off the reception area for 2 nights. The room was nice and large, good amenities and clean. The breakfast was great and as we had an early start the next day they arranged a continental tray to be delivered to the room which was a nice touch indeed! Car park was good and very secure. The only reason I have not given this a 5 star rating is because of the constant humming noise throughout the night. I think it may of been the boiler or something in the annex switching on and off..but it was extremely loud and a bit annoying. the only reason we did not complain is we were there for a wedding and well lots of drinking involved so had no problem getting to sleep only when we woke up :) The bar is gorgeous, would def recommend having a few drinks there. the breakfast was ok, had the full English and it was just ok. What makes this place is the people who run it...great staff..just disappointed I could not give it a 5 star!!!

We spent two nights here, dinner, b&b. Everything about the hotel is welcoming, staff, atmosphere, gardens. As we have a dog we often struggle to find a hotel who will allow him in the entire place (with the exception of the restaurant of course). A table was set up in the bar for us for dinner and breakfast. The room was lovely and warm, but radiators controllable so we could set as we wanted. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. Anything they couldn't answer immediately they went off and found the person who could. Will definitely being staying there again. Hopefully quite soon. All in all, good value for money, lovely staff, food and surrounding.

Stayed with about 20 others attending a local wedding for 2 nights. A very comfortable bedroom and bathroom, excellent English breakfast and the friendliest staff you will ever meet - the Belvoir beer wasn't bad either. The gardens are well kept and nicely laid out and there was plenty of off road parking in a secure area. The area is nice and quiet so a good nights sleep is guaranteed.

We met friends at this hotel and bought the Bed, Breakfast and Evening Meal deal so we could all be together and not worry about finding and getting to and from a restaurant in Melton. This turned out to be a great plan as not only was the food very good and fantastic value for money but the whole evening was very pleasant with friendly staff making the time even better. The rooms are old styled but that means they have proper heavy curtains, decent carpet and plush chairs all in various colours, not blank, white and plane like most modern hotels. The bathroom was very nice with a huge bath thought the water takes a while to get hot. The staff are very friendly and can't do enough to help and the owners are usually about somewhere making sure things are running smoothly. We thoroughly recommend this hotel

Spent 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast and couldn't fault this place. The rooms are lovely and cosy. The food was excellent and the staff friendly and very accommodating. As a group of friends with different expectations we were not disappointed. The one thing that strikes you is how happy the staff are from the top down. Would highly recommend this place. Well done.

Traditional hotel, country decor, beautiful gardens, comfy bed and spotless room and bathroom. Staff are amazing, friendly, helpful, interested in you and your trip and the meals were outstanding. Wonderful evening meals, recommended! Fantastic weekend with friends would recommend and would definitely go back.

The room was immaculate, and lovely and warm, and such a comfy bed. The staff were very pleasant, the food was excellent. Extremely good value for money. Thank you so much, see you again next June, with friends I hope!

We were in a party of nineteen, all of whom had booked this hotel on the recommendation of the party organiser. Bearing in mind that Melton is a small rural market town, this hotel was much better than we expected. We were greeted with a genuinely friendly smile, a tour round the place, and an explanation of the various facilities. One quirk is that there are no resident staff, so the main entrance is locked after 11:30 pm (though your room key will get you in), and there is no access at all to the car park after that time. This didn't cause anyone any problems as far as I know. Our room (No 8) was a bit dated in appearance but extremely comfortable, with absolutely everything you need for a short stay (two nights in our case), and a fantastic view over the Leicestershire wolds. Breakfasts were excellent, particularly the Full English - as you might expect in area famed for its pork. (And the honey is produced at the hotel from their own bees. I believe they also keep quail!) We only ate one evening meal there - a major dinner for the whole party of 19 - and it was passably good, but not fine dining. The garden has the same superb views as our bedroom did, and is a great place for a quick morning blowing away of the cobwebs - and there are plenty of good walks along the river valley onto which it backs. Definitely the main plus point, though, is the really friendly and helpful atmosphere around the place - the staff were absolutely brilliant.

A really excellent hotel that provided a warm welcome, outstanding food and really relaxing surroundings. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff and the hotel exceeded our expectations in all areas.

The primary purpose of my visit was to see the Richard III: Dynasty Death & Discovery. The reservation was made on my behalf by friends who'd accompanied me to Leicester. A lovely and quaint hotel on the outskirts of Melton Mowbray

Terrible trouble making an addition to the booking, with the reservations lady tutting and telling me I had done the form all wrong online. I hadn't booked online, I had booked directly with the hotel and she told me I hadn't!! Rude and obstructive.

I stay here quite regularly when I am away with work and I have to say they never fail to give outstanding service. The team are pleasant professional and so helpful. Food is great and I'm usually spoilt for choice. I can't say anything negative about this hotel and I will continue to enjoy their great service hopefully for a long time to come

We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay in one of the Superior Rooms. This is a family run Hotel with the family in residence - including school age children, dogs and pet quails.We had booked half board and found the breakfasts and 3 course dinners excellent. The menu is unashamably English and all the better for being so. Potrion sizes were generous. The whole Hotel is clean and well decorated. However, we had a constant feeling of it being yester-year, maybe 20 to 30 years ago and were left with the feeling that some modernisation must be on the cards soon. The staff were, without exception, friendly and very helpful. Security is good, the Carpark being gated at night. As an added bonus a 20 minute bus service to Melton Mowbray, Leicester or Grantham stops a few yards from the entrance. All in all this is a very good Hotel which we will be happy to return to.

We could not fault our stay. From the moment we arrived to when we left there is nothing at all I could mark them down on. Breakfast and dinner was excellent and the deal through the Best Western website was better than on booking.com or Trivago. I was surprised all of the standard and superior rooms were dog friendly but we were offered and paid a nominal fee for an upgrade to the annexe which was lovely. I think the car park could be better signed as us and at least another 3 cars within the space of 10 minutes drove down the lane beside the hotel. All in all would definitely and would stay again if in the area.

I stopped here with family as we were going to a wedding locally. Comfortable and very clean but getting a little tired with the decor. Rooms were a good size. Bathroom needed updating. Bar area and garden lovely and staff friendly and helpful.

We stayed one night in two rooms, accommodating four adults, one child, and two dogs. We originally booked two standard rooms on a deal with Expedia and I'd called ahead to checked we were ok with the dogs and an extra bed. On arrival they told me a standard room would be tight and had upgraded to a superior for no extra cost. The rooms were clean and comfortable - the childs bed was a little hard to sleep on but didn't cause any problems. We were welcomed warmly, and the staff friendly and helpful. The dogs were welcome anywhere in the hotel besides the restaurant including the gardens and large area to the rear of the property. Breakfast was good and the staff had planned a space specifically for our group which was a nice touch. The small local town is just a few minutes down the road and there are some nice walks down by the canal and in the country park that is a few minutes further out of town. We really enjoyed our short stay and would recommend the hotel.

Stayed for 3 nights last week and had a very relaxing and comfortable stay. A very home-from-home experience. Room was very clean and spacious. Lots of room to unpack stuff too...so much so, I'd unknowingly left an ipad, glasses, bag and headphones in a drawer. The staff went completely out of their way to get these items back to me within 24 hours. Hugely appreciated!

Stayed two nights and we just loved the whole time we spent here. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners even offering to look after our very spoilt cocker spaniel so we could eat in the restaurant. However, we opted for dinner in the bar as I never like to put on people and it was absolutely fabulous. The sirloin steak was cooked to perfection, I am to of the lasagne was delicious by my husband, service was first class and we had a super evening. The bedroom was very well appointed and we slept very well. Breakfast was again another enjoyable meal with a full English breakfast served piping hot to the table....no queuing...such a relief!! The hotel has superb views and we had a lovely walk down to the river. The gardens are delightful and very well cared for. You could not ask for a better hotel in the area...don't delay.....BOOK!

Our first visit to this wonderful hotel the views are stunning the food is excellent as is the service its family run and the proprietor Jenni is so welcoming nothing is too much trouble We upgraded to a four poster, room 3 , the bed was amazing , we had a step to climb into it we had the best nights sleep ever it felt like we were in a stately home the decor is very nice spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated We look forward to our next visit

We stayed for two nights at this hotel, along with 27 of our close family and friends, as our son was getting married in Melton Mowbray. What a fantastic weekend we all had! Vicky (the manager) was incredibly helpful, helping us arrange a meal for everyone on the eve of the wedding in a private dining room. The food was excellent and we were able to relax with our friends and enjoy the hotel's lovely lounges and beautiful gardens. The wedding was wonderful - but everyone in our party agreed that the atmosphere and facilities at the Sysonby Knoll, were the icing on the cake! Thank you to the friendly and helpful staff who helped make our weekend really special.

Super hotel with private conference/ dining room for our meeting. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good food, individually cooked breakfast. Overall excellent! You can't go wrong! Dog friendly on top.

This hotel is friendly and full of life. We have been staying at this hotel for years,the staff greet you like a long lost friend . The food is superb and the choices good. The bedrooms are spacious ,clean and comfy. It is also a dog friendly hotel.

A very pleasantly situated hotel, on the edge of town, backing on to open countryside. Rooms were spacious and clean, a nice touch was the USB charger points. Also free Wi-Fi. Their DB&B rates are good value, with a good choice of menu and a reasonably priced wine list. Service was on the whole good, but let down by breakfast on the last day. We sat at our table for fifteen minutes without our order being taken and the situation was only resolved when I went to find a waitress. The food took a further 25 minutes to arrive.

We booked here as a base for attending a wedding on a nearby farm. Staff were very helpful in ensuring we understood the procedure for entering the hotel after hours . Good breakfast in an area overlooking the glorious garden and further country views. Secure locked car park comfortable room , very light and bright Good bathroom with large hand and body wash, lotion etc.

We needed a room for a quick family visit to Melton. We had no expectation that the hotel would be this good, we usually stay in 4* plus. The staff were lovely, the food very good and the room very comfortable and I would highly recommend the hotel.

We booked a two night DB&B stay at this local hotel to 'ease the pain' of our local house move: we were glad we did! Although we had lived near Melton Mowbray for some years, we had overlooked this hotel and restaurant until now. But staying here was a good decision: the hotel is on the edge of the town, has rural views, welcoming and efficient staff and a good restaurant. Perhaps you might expect nice meals in "The Rural Capital of Food" that Melton Mowbray claims to be. We found the daily menu varied with a good rage of traditional English and other dishes, all well cooked, generously portioned and well presented. Vegetarians were well catered for in unusually creative ways! We stayed in Room 8, a quiet twin room with rural aspect. The room was traditionally styled, clean and comfortable. We had no quibbles or complaints to make and feel we had good value for money.

This is a very fine hotel where the employees are very helpful. We had a lovely stay in our four-poster bed room, which had a great bath/shower combo room as well. Upon arrival my wife needed some rice, for which we was going to head into town for, but the staff very kindly arranged some rice for her very promptly. The fourposter bed was massive and incredibly comfortable - we mostly chose Melton as as a stop-over place before heading back to southern england, it was a really great choice in hotel as it was very much a relaxing place to stay before a long drive home. The food we had was brilliant and the young lady doing the waiting couldn't be more helpful, she was good enough to bring our meal/drinks to the garden where we enjoyed the birds singing and the cool, calm air of the evening. It was incredbly relaxing. The breakfast was superb, the staff again, really great. Overall I would stay here again if in the location, it is a great hotel where the staff/owners are passionate about giving a really good service.

Stayed here for 1 night. Really liked the family room that we had. My children had bunk beds in an adjoining room to our room. Our Room was really clean and spacious. Good variety of breakfast, our waitress was friendly. Checking out the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again

Lovely grounds and exterior. The car park is limited. Very secure with locked gates after 11pm. Old fashioned inside including food. Service doesn't seem to be the top priority - regulars get lots of chats whilst visitors have to wait for drinks. There was poor communication regarding getting the heating to work in our room.

Super family owned Hotel. The place to stay when in Melton Mowbray. I always receive a great welcome from very helpful and friendly staff. Bar stocked with amongst other things, ales from nearby Belvoir Brewery. Great food from daily menu or off the a la Carte. Well maintained gardens with lovely view over the flood plain. Well recommended.

The food in the hotel restaurant is excellent. If anything the portions are almost too large. Very helpful staff. Rooms are on the small side but perfectly adequate. The major drawback is the somewhat convaluted series of hallways one must go through to reach one's room. Many stairs and doors make this hotel not a good choice for anyone with mobility issues. For those who can handle stairs this hotel is an excellent choice.

Was in a wing near the front of the building. It was either badly built or I stayed on a day of unusual seismic activity; the whole structure vibrated when doors were closed or a vehicle drove by. I have been in more sturdy Wendy houses. Room was adequate but no more. Bathroom dated. Breakfast was not included

Overnight Saturday stay, booked for dinner, bed & breakfast via Best Western website. Check in was efficient, but none too welcoming. Our standard double room was fine, very clean, comfy bed. No aircon. Small flatscreen TV, tea/coffee, free Wifi. Compact en suite bathroom with large bath, decent shower, dated decor, lovely towels. The bar area is comfortable and nicely furnished and decorated and overlooks the well maintained garden. The Restaurant is nice and is popular with non-residents. We soon understood why. Our included 3 course a la carte menu meal was excellent. We had the lamb shank, which was as good as any I have ever tasted. Service was good. Wine was reasonably priced (from £14 bottle). Breakfast was cooked to oredr and again very good.The food here is certainly the crowning glory of this place. It was very quiet and peaceful, conducive to a restful stay. A little over priced at almost £150 for DBB, but a change from the chain Hotels. Would certainly return.

The hotel is easy to find, on the outskirts of the town. A three night break in a single room. Good food, lovely staff. Will return. The age of the building means it has lots of little steps so watch your feet to avoid a trip.

A very nice looking hotel but we only visited the restaurant. Tuesday night so it was very quiet and service was good. Pleasant young ladies and decent food. Would go again. The desert was Strawberry and Kiwi almond meringue roulade, worth the visit ha ha

From check in to check out, we had great service during our 3 night stay at the Sysonby Knoll. I picked this hotel, on behalf of others, for an family get together. We were not disappointed. We paid a reasonable rate for superior rooms, through the hotels own website. Check-in was friendly and efficient, shown to our rooms, which were clean, well presented and spacious. Ate in the hotel on our first night and had a few drinks there too enjoying the late evening sunshine in the beautiful gardens. The food was of a good standard and they went to the trouble of substituting a new main on the table d'hote, when one was all gone Beds were comfy and a good night sleep was had. Each morning, breakfast was cooked to order with cereal, yoghurt, fruit, some pastries, cheese and ham all available buffet style. Refills of toast, tea, coffee, butter etc at the table was always forth coming. One of the real plus factors about the hotel is the setting, with beautiful gardens ( with games) and a field running down to the river. The other major plus is the staff who were genuinely friendly and responsive to our requirements. I got fresh milk for our room and they split the bill for our meal between our various party members without asking. If I had to find fault. The hotel is too warm for me - that's personal taste and the bedroom features opening windows. The shower wasn't very powerful - that saves water and it was simple to operate. I would have liked black pudding and mushrooms on the breakfast menu and maybe kippers or smoked salmon - I reckon these would have been provisioned had I made a special request but I wasn't that bothered. Thanks all at the Sysonby Knoll.

Thoroughly enjoyed our one night break here, Lovely views from the charming garden area and restaurant. We had superior double room which was very comfy and clean. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Dinner was nicely presented and tasty - good, unobtrusive service also. There is also a specials menu. Breakfast included and again cannot find any fault. Not far from Melton Mowbray and plenty of places to visit if staying longer.

I stayed for 4 nights at the Sysonby Knoll and I enjoyed my stay very much. Right from the time of making the reservation I had a good feeling about the hotel given the friendly,efficient and accommodating service on the phone and I was not disappointed. The house is very well run, competent and friendly, courteous staff. Nothing is too much trouble. I stayed in room 10 which is nicely decorated and spacious. Everything I was looking for was fulfilled, good service, clean room, good bed, hot water, good breakfast. The meals were very good too. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful, I was lucky enough that the weather was good and could sit in the beautiful well maintained garden, enjoying the countryside. The market town is a leisurely stroll from the hotel, and in case of need the taxi service is excellent. I can only recommend the hotel and will not hesitate to return. A big thank you to the whole team.

I stayed for one night on a Saturday while travelling on a short touring holiday. Booked into an executive room which is in a separate annexe opposite the main building. The room was large and included a separate seating area with a small table and two chairs. The bathroom was also a good size - only negative point is that there was a shower curtain rather than a screen. I ate in the restaurant which was very busy. Despite being busy the service was prompt and efficient. The meal was good honest fare and I enjoyed it very much. The staff were welcoming and friendly and gave the hotel a feeling of somewhere that is run with care, passion and enthusiasm. For that I am happy to award 5 stars

Stayed here for one night and dined in. The hotel is an extended country home, outside town and with charming gardens and river/countryside views. The beds were comfortable, and the public rooms are spacious and relaxing. The food was excellent and the staff very pleasant and helpful.

Hidden away behind some house, with an obscure entrance that I missed! Superb views of the river and farmland to the rear. A little oasis of calm in a busy world Staff couldn't do enough either, especially as I was only staying one night Rooms all one would expect

Stayed for one night on business. Hotel was pleasant enough and staff pretty friendly. Rooms are OK quite roomy and temperature was good. Only had breakfast which was ok service wasn't great. Wifi albeit free was dire with very poor signal and constantly crashing. For what I paid which was over £100 it was poor value for money.

Used this hotel for an overnight stay when attending our son's wedding and was immediately very impressed by friendly and helpful staff for whom nothing was too much trouble, Room was spotlessly clean and bed was very comfortable. Lovely breakfast. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone :)

Spent 3 nights here on a Rail Discoveries package. Had a lovely clean and quiet room overlooking the garden. Could hear and watch the goldfinches whilst laying on my bed! Food excellent and a decently priced selection of single malts in the bar. It also produces it's own honey available at breakfast. Service by local staff excellent. Highly recommended establishment.

Took my partner away for his birthday, smashing hotel, super comfy bed, I am not very tall could of done with some steps to climb in...;-) Food was excellent as was the service. Nice glass of wine in the garden with nothing but bird song to hear wonderful.

We ( Wife 36, Me 40, son 5 ) travelled from Bristol to Woburn Safari Park early morning and then wanted to go to the National Space Centre in Leicester the following day, meaning an overnight stay preferably with a short drive the next morning. I try and book a Best Western whenever possible. normally they have a bit more character than a Premier Inn and usually for a similar price! This Hotel was on the verge of a short drive to our next destination (30 minutes) but it was the closest Best Western and we are very glad we choose it for a stay. It was Bank Holiday weekend and the Kitchen was not open on the Monday, they phoned and asked if this was ok an hour after our online booking. This was followed by another call asking if it was ok that our son had his own room separated by a bathroom with a lockable front door! The Joy of not having to all go to bed at 8pm!, of course this was ok and again great communication. Friendly Staff, shown to room, remembered our names in the morning, a delightful breakfast with a view over a private garden. As I find most Best Westerns this was a bargain for £89!!!

1st time I have stayed at the Sysonby Knoll and I will definitely stay again the net time I am in the area. Very pleasant staff and service from people who actually like working there (unlike a lot of places I stay at). Also good food in the restaurant, comfortable rooms and very clean.

Just returned from a three night stay at the hotel, how can I explain it in one word. PERFECT. We have stayed there before, and we were made as welcome as ever, even the dog!! We had the superior twin room on the ground floor which was very convenient and quiet, it was kept spotless The meals both breakfasts and evening meals were first class and nothing was too much trouble. I would strongly recommend the hotel and staff.

Stayed Thursday - Sunday on B&B + Dinner basis. Our twin room was well equipped including Wifi but the bathroom was rather cramped. The food was good and the menu varied day-to-day. We enjoyed our stay and the only negative aspect was that guests in in adjacent room to ours didn't use their shower - they used their bath - and so we found no hot water once. The management were most apologetic. We twigged what was happening and so made sure we used our shower before they ran their baths. All-in-all we enjoyed our few days at Sysonby Knoll.

Not often I get to this part of the country, However I was very impressed when arriving at the hotel & my delight was heightened when greeted by the wonderfully friendly & helpful staff. The room was large, lovely, clean and very well equipped. I would instantly recommend a stay here to anyone in the area for any reason. G

We visited for 2 nights as a birthday treat for my husband. The hotel is spotlessly clean and we were given a room upgrade to a very large bedroom with 4 poster bed. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we were really impressed that we didn't have to keep giving them our name or room number, and didn't have to sign for meals and drinks; they just recognised their guests. The food was really good and piping hot, with plenty of choice. On the second evening I asked if I could have new potatoes with my scampi rather than chips, and even though they were not on the menu at all that evening, the chef cooked some specially. So nice, also, to be served at the table with the cooked breakfast ordered, hot drinks and toast. The bar/lounge areas are very comfortable to enjoy a drink before or after your meal. Great views over the river Eye from the restaurant too. The only downside to our room was the shower which had very little water pressure. Altogether a great visit and I would definitely stay here again

We just needed an overnight stay to attend a birthday party. We didn't know this hotel but it was in the right location and the reviews were good. It exceeded our expectations in every way. The room was fantastic, as was the breakfast and they kindly arranged our taxi to and from the venue.

This was our first visit to Melton and the hotel we picked was first class. Staff were friendly and the room was excellent. Food was very good. Will definitely be returning when the weather is better.

Great out of town hotel. Spotlessly clean, friendly efficient staff, fabulous food, varied menu, good value, comfortable well appointed rooms. All things you expect from a hotel but often don't get. Fabulous gardens running down to the river. The hotel has evolved over time with various wings and annexes being added. We had a lovely room overlooking the garden. I don't know what the newer rooms are like.

Arrived mid evening,check in was really easy and very helpfull.we were shown to our room.room 10 was very spacious,clean and had everything we would need.the room was furnished in keeping with this wonderful hotel.there are lots of nooks and crannies and wonderfull views of the river eye and countryside.we had a couple of drinks in the bar before retiring for the night. We slept well and the shower was good.the breakfast was good,but we hadn't finished our cereal when our cooked breakfast arrived.the waitress took it away to keep warm.the restaraunt has lovely views over the gardens and there is outside seating.the hotel is dog friendly and you can fish on the river free.the male duty manager is very helpfull and we enjoyed chatting with him.we would definitely stay here again.

Lovely hotel in a great setting overlooking the river. Particularly enjoyed the good quality ingredients of the cooked breakfast. The restaurant was popular with locals and the food was freshly cooked to order.

I thoroughly recommend this hotel. We stayed for 1 weekend night whilst we were visiting the area. We booked a 4-poster room (room3) which was very nice, really spacious and spotlessly clean. It had a nice view over the garden and was extremely quiet. The hotel staff were really friendly and the breakfast was good with a nice dining area downstairs looking over the garden. Ample parking, easy to find. Will stay again. Thanks.

We just had a weekend stay at this wonderful hotel which is 15 walk from the town. The hotel staff and management could not have been more helpful and the breakfast and meal we had on valentines was very good value for money. On arriving we were given a free upgrade to a better room which was very nice of the hotel. If we are ever in the region again would stay here again no problem many thanks to the staff had a lovely break

My partner treated me to a gorgeous night away for Valentines, to stay at this most hidden gem was a real find... The four poster bed was stunning....TV excellent size, bedroom & bathroom very roomy with a very professional touches & finishes.. They knew who my partner was straight away without having to give his name, the most friendliest attentive staff ever.. Stunning hotel with stunning views.. most amazing food ever and we love our food and it has to and was most certainly the best we have had. Sue who was the chef on that evening apparently has worked there 20 years and it shows... Flawless stay from start to finish with the cleanest scrummy breakfast ever, (by clean i mean not a trace of oil on the plate..) we are definitely going back for more.. :) more than ***** service at affordable prices..!!!

We have stayed in many hotels over the years, but this hotel surpasses all of them. I had enquired prior to booking about the dog policy and was told dogs are most welcome, and they most certainly are. We couldn't eat in the restaurant with the dog which is understandable, but were allowed to eat in the bar area which was just as nice as the restaurant. From the onset we were made most welcome, even our dog was made to feel at home. The hotel was immaculate, yes it is in amongst a row of houses and on a main road, but you would never know it once you are in the hotel, and in the grounds of the hotel, there is no noise and you are not overlooked by the houses. The grounds are lovely, we were lucky as it wasn't raining so were able to go out into the grounds and down to the river (in the summer it must be even lovelier). All of the staff are extremely friendly. ( especially Vicky and Holly)and all went out of their way to make us welcome. We were there over the Valentine weekend so took advantage of the Valentine meal which was available, the food was outstanding. Our room was a superior and had a huge and absolutely spotless, there was even a towel just for the dog (something quite trivial to some people but to those of us with dogs this was a very thoughtful touch). Whilst this is a Best Western hotel it is also family run- maybe that's why it is so friendly. We will definitely be returning to this hotel again and would definitely recommend it.

This is such a lovely hotel!! The staff can't do enough for you! There sooo lovely! And the food!!!! Omg!! It is AMAZING!!!! The rooms are very clean! The beds are comfy, it's exactly what you need after you've had a hard day at work to come back to a very homely warming hotel with delicious food!

I came here for one night for a trip into Melton Mowbray. My friend had told the reception to expect me. Kim greeted me and knew who I was before I even said my name ! Kim has to be one of the friendliest hotel staff I've met in a long time. She was at hand for all our queries, and helped us a lot. The hotel itself is in a beautiful setting (if only the British rain had stayed away) even though it's situated on a main road. The rooms were lovely and quaint, and spotless, and the food for dinner and breakfast hit the spot ! All in all, a great little find. Thanks !

Fantastic find. Was recommended by a friend and this place did not disappoint. Really welcoming staff and a really big comfy room. Would recommend to anyone needing to stay in the area and will definitely use again. Can't wait to go back! :-)

The hotel was adequate and the staff were very pleasant - the hotel itself is a little misleading, as the photos give an impression of a rural location which it is not (it is on a main road in a large town). The entire hotel could do with a little modernisation etc. Don't get me wrong, its not a 'bad' hotel, it just didn't 'wow' me, and for the price it really should have, given the competition.

We eat out a lot & mostly visit luxury hotels where a meal for two averages at £60/80 so Sunday lunch at the Sysonby Knoll was superb for many reasons. Firstly we received a very warm welcome & were soon sitting down in a relaxing lounge with a good coffee. Secondly when our table was ready we were taken through by a lovely friendly waitress to a delightful room with views over open countryside & thirdly the food that followed was totally faultless. The service was also excellent & even with more coffees after the meal the total bill was under £40 all in for two people! So the 3 course meal in lovely surroundings could not be faulted, it was very enjoyable & really good value, needless to say we will be going back very soon!

Went for an anniversary meal here as we had our wedding reception at the hotel. Had the Christmas dinner. Couldn't fault it. Very tasty and we'll presented. Always a pleasure to visit and the food excellent.

I went with the family including my little son. Staff were very friendly and could not do enough for you. Food was lovely and despite the place being packed on the Friday night in question we did not have to wait long. Prices very reasonable. Well worth a visit.

The Sysonby Knoll Hotel is within walking distance of Melton Mowbray town centre and offers all of the amenities associated with a first class hotel, from the peaceful and luxurious rooms to the excellent dining experience. The hotel is set in its own private garden with far reaching views which can be seen from the dining room. The bar area and reception are comfortably laid out with easy chairs and sofas, offering a wide range of refreshments by the delightful and polite staff. The car park is extensive and has locked gates from late night to early morning making your vehicle secure. The hotel caters for disabled with ground floor rooms. Although we visited as a couple, children and pets were also welcome.

What a wonderful stay, from the time we arrived to the time we left we were made most welcome. Even the dog had his own towel waiting for him in the room, a very nice thought. The meals were first class and the restaurant was lovely overlooking the gardens and the river. Our room was kept spotless, and it was lovely to see the quall chicks. With the Victorian fayre being on last weekend it was one of the nicest weekends we have spent for a long time.

Staff were very helpful and friendly in both the hotel and the restaurant. The room was clean and had everything I needed. Dinner was very good and the portions were enormous. Breakfast was also very good.

This is a lovely hotel with exceptionally friendly & attentive service. Dinner was excellent & we enjoyed the relaxing drink in the bar beforehand - great idea to take our food order here. We were a bit disappointed with the small beds & quality of duvets which weren't very comfortable, but couldn't fault anything else.

Every aspect excellent. 7 of us stayed for 2/3 nights. They are all ex senior management. We were all very happy with the rooms, service, restaurant both evening meal and breakfast. Good inexpensive wine list. Bar sells local real ale. Very friendly efficient staff

We stayed for a Saturday night on the dinner, B&B rate. The staff were so welcoming and friendly. Our bed was a touch on the small side but the room and bathroom were clean, comfortable and quiet. Dinner was good, I had the burger with bacon and brie - the world's supply of brie!! As I was leaving at 6am the next day they left me a continental breakfast on a tray and a mini fridge to keep the milk and yogurt cold. The wifi was quick. Would stay there again if in the area.

Stayed at this hotel for one night to attend wedding nearby. We chose this hotel because it had very good trip advisor reviews. I am afraid we were very disappointed. Our ground floor room, which we requested, was entered by leaving reception, going past the car entrance, through a pair of electrified gates and walking through a rather scruffy courtyard, to a door at the far end of the building, all in the open air. It all looked rather unkempt, and unwelcoming, with a large grey brick being used as a doorstop. The room was very tired and dated, with stand alone furniture and dull lighting. It was clean but certainly poorly furnished and reminiscent of a much lower rate do and cheaper hotel. The bed was not only hard and uncomfortable, it was the smallest double bed of just 4 foot 6 inches and so an comfortable night ensued with barely room for two average sized people. This is most unexpected these days and certainly not in a room costing £120 per night (incl breakfast). The bathroom was also dated and although there were plentiful bath towels, there were no hand towels. On a positive note, the staff were, on the whole, friendly and the gardens looked attractive. The 'individually cooked' breakfast was OK, but certainly nothing special, and the fruit buffet consisted of just tinned grapefruit and prunes, and there was just one croissant left. I am really sorry to have to write in this manner as I would really liked to have written a good review of a privately owned hotel, but unfortunately it was not 'up to scratch' and we were really pleased we only had to stay one night.

We have just spent a Saturday night here with the dinner bed and breakfast rates for a family party to celebrate my daughter.s 21st. The staff were very friendly and welcoming especially on the desk. We had a variety of rooms ranging from the executive to the standard and they were all of a very high standard with comfortable beds and top class bathrooms.The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and the food was excellent. It is also within walking distance of the town centre.This was our second stay here and again we were not disappointed and would thoroughly recommend this hotel if youa re in the area.

Lovely gardens at back,comfy beds, good shower and excellent breakfast. Quiet despite proximity to road. Really enjoyed our stay.Watch out for the low arch leading to the car park if you have bikes on the roof !

It's the staff that make this hotel, along with comfortable rooms & excellent food. I have stayed here on many occasions over the last 2 years and have always received such a warm welcome from Jenny, Vicky, Peter & the team. Feels like a home from home more than a hotel. The four poster rooms are a special treat & offer great value and the rooms in the annexe are especially spacious. In all rooms the wifi is superb, beds are comfy, TVs are a good size and room service is always quick & piping hot! The daily specials on the menu ensure there is always great choice for evening meals, the food really is first class, lovely to dine in the restaurant & also in the gardens in the Summer! Good breakfasts too. With secure parking. Currently being modernised & now part of Best Western chain but thankfully not losing it's charm...Very rare to find service as good as this. The decor may be a little old for people in favour of a more modern setting but it adds to the whole cosy and relaxed atmosphere. The rooms are what you'd expect at a 3 star hotel and are clean and well maintained. The grounds are lovely. I have stayed there on four occasions in the last month on business. I have not gotten tired of the view from the dining room. Not spectacular but lovely and serene. The food is excellent. A decent selection of tasty meals on the a la carte but the specials are indeed special. The kitchen staff, like all the staff here, are friendly and very accommodating. Having been impressed with the food I decided to chance my luck when saw swordfish steak on the special. Sailfish tend to be tough and chewy and a bit bland but they served it up with roasted soft red peppers and a sauce (I can't recall) with some sweet potato mash on the side and it was the best I have ever tasted. I have had fresh swordfish in the Caribbean and Marlin from the Indian ocean at places said to be great for seafood- but the Sysonby served up better. The staff at this family run hotel are top notch. Definitely recommend and I doubt there's a better Hotel in Melton Mowbray!

This is our second stay at this hotel. The first was 20 years ago when My wife and I stayed with our two young sons at the time. Mrs Booth, the owner and operator showed great kindness during our stay. My wife and I wanted to return for this reason as we were in the UK for Rugby World Cup. Prior to arriving at the hotel, I had emailed our time of arrival (7:00 to 8:00 pm ) and our wish to have dinner on our arrival. I received a reply back to stay no problem and the dining room closes at 8:30 pm. When we entered to dining room we were given bar menus and told to seat in the bar/lounge. We ordered from the bar menu, one plough man's lunch and a meat pie as well as a bottle of wine to drink in the interim. As we waited for our meal, the next customers were offered the full menu by a different member of staff and ordered roast lamb. Why were we not given that option? This made my wife and I feel like 2nd class citizens. We were hungry after a long day of travel and we are offered a bar menu in spite of advance notice. After 45 minutes waiting in the lounge for our dinner, we walked into the dining room to ask where our food was. We were told that the pie takes that long to bake. If that is the case it would make sense to make this know. We were still waiting while the customers who came after us were already eating their lamb roast. Apart from this opening incident, our stay was uneventful, rooms were comfortable, and the food good.

We stayed here for 2 days DBB in an executive room. The room was really lovely, the staff very nice and the meals were wonderful. Would definitely recommend this hotel. All in all we had a really nice time.

We stayed here as a family (2 adults, 3 teenagers and Granny) for a local wedding. We booked three rooms. Jenny and her team were fantastic at juggling the needs of various age groups and could not have done more to help us during our two night stay. Very good dinner, excellent breakfasts, clean rooms and great service. Thank you very much for your patience, good humour and making us so welcome.

Stayed at the Sysonby Knoll Hotel in September 2015 for one night (business) and considered the rooms to be a little sparse (I was in a 'superior' which was very basic, bed and tiny table) and in need of some updating, particularly the bathroom. Breakfast was OK and the service that I received was friendly. This hotel keeps the rain off, but at £95 for the night it was expensive for what it is. Would probably look elsewhere next time.

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend at this friendly hotel where the staff make you feel very much "at home". Rooms are clean and fresh and the food is great. There were 11 of us, nothing was too much trouble and at dinner we were all served on time - well done to the kitchen.
