    « A wonderful place to stay »

We liked our stay at the hotel very much. The staff was helpful and polite, the breakfast was very tasty, the beds were large and very good, the bathroom was luxurious. The room was nice, big - and very quiet was a double door to the hall and windows facing a quiet street.

    5
    « framragende »

Everything perfect, even the weather :-) This was our first stay in Malmų, and the hotel is situated perfect for shopping and sightseeing on foot. Many restaurants nearby and an interesting new area of sustainable houses at Västra hamn near Turning Torso.

    « Retro rooms »

Hotel in a good location, with a funny Retro feeling in my room. Old fashioned TV, alarm clock, bed and shower cabin. It was like when I was travelling in the mid 90th. I guess it was luxury back then, but now it´s mostly weared out. Great breakfast.

    « Very cosy & convenient place »

The Master Johan was recommended to me by a friend living in Copenhagen. This hotel is very appropriate for staying a few days (I was on a business convention for 3 days). It is in the historical center, near very good eating establishments. Service is very professional and there is a most useful parking area just under the building. Rooms are very comfortable and breakfast excellent.

    « Nice but boring »

We stayed at Master Johan for our anniversary and stayed om a junior suite. Part of the hotel is beautifully renovated, our room was not part of that. The room was huge, but tired. The tv might be B&O but its old (not even flatscreen), there was not aircon, and we had to open the windows at night, and lay awake because of the noise from the square. Breakfast was nice, but theres hardly any room in the buffet. There are several much better hotels right across the street, and I don't think I will be back.

    5
« Perfect situation in the centre and lovely big rooms »

This hotel is a minute from the central square with all the restaurants and also only 5 minutes from the central station. The rooms are large with nice bathrooms and the beds are big and comfortable. The hotel has a lot of charm.

    5
    « Quiet quality »

Charming staff. Wonderful room with great bathroom and really comfy generous bed. Breakfast was varied, simple and as good as I have had. Perfect location. This is probably the best value hotel I've ever stayed in.

    « Remarks »

The room I had was at ground level facing street. Very loud in the morning. A bad experience for my colleague was that his order went wrong on his mistake but the reaction at the desk was not custom oriented as he got a really poor room to the same high price rate.

    « A must! »

One of the best places ever stayed for business in Sweden. Personal, comfertable, stylish , just perfect. Large rooms , lots of great details, find out your self. Great B & O tv, some 5 stars hotels can learn from this place. Breakfast, one of the best ever had in Scandinavia, you have to like "homy" feeling, all food high quality. Again just check it out. People at reception; just how they should be! We recently opened an office around the corner; I ll be back!

    5
    « Beautiful place »

The hotel is located in the old town, within walking distance from the train station. Reception staff was extremely friendly and the hotel has a very nice and cosy decoration. The room had classic furniture, a very comfortable bed and a good bathroom. Internet connection was free and perfect, and the breakfast buffet ok, in a very nice setting. The hotel has no own restaurant, but there is plenty of choice just a short walk down the road. Absolutely recommendable!

    « A great home in Malmö »

Master Johan is my favorite in Malmö. Location, ambience and great friendly staff. Yes, it is time to upgrade the rooms, but they still work and the bathrooms are magnificent. Renovate with care and take care of those great people servicing your guests.

« Top Class Boutique Hotel »

As usual Mäster Johan provided an excellent overnight stay. Its comfortable, friendly and rooms are finished to a classy standard with good bathroom fittings, grange furtniture and comofortable beds. Nice touches like the bikes and free access to a local gym, the lounge area and its location (close to Lilla Torget) make this a very good choice if you are visiting central Malmö. Rates are variable like most hotels and you can pick up a very reasonable price for this hotel sometimes

    4
    « Quiet and relaxing. »

The rooms are quiet and welcoming. I can recommend a warm bath by candlelight. Master Johan is centrally located and within walking distance to the central parts of Malmö. The breakfast is very good. It is close to many good restaurants.

    5
« Master Johan to recommend »

A very nice stay - very good service - excellent location - very good atmosphere - parking a bit expensive considereing room prices. The possibiltiy of Family rooms - 2 adults / 2 kids could be recommended?

    « Very nice place »

Very nice place !! People are very friendly and the location is great to visit the old town of malmo. I quality of the room is very good, and breakfast awesome:) In malmo it is the best place to stay! There are good restaurants all around, we enjoyed a lot

    5
« Nice hotel in a really nice location »

This hotel is located centrally in Malmo. Breakfast is excellent. Staff were courteous. We walked everywhere in the city, using this hotel as a base. The only down side is the the city basically shuts down to tourists by October. There were no tours or activities during October.

    5
« Best hotel in Malmų with the best location! »

Great stay with great service! Rolls are excellent and very big! Breakfeast is delicious and the hotel is one minute from shopping and two minutes from the central station! This is just the best place to stay!

    5
    « A perfect hotel »

Its located in the hart of Malmö, close to the real old Town. Nice rooms and a wonderful setting. Stayed in a room on third floor. The room was of god size, had a excellent bed, good pillows and nice and functional bath room. Great breakfast table with a lot choice. A place with quality and comfort in the absolut center of Malmoe. I want to go back.

« MJ in Malmo sweden »

Good location and nice rooms, could improve cleanliness and restaurant service. Service good as well as breakfast, but the breakfast menu is the same every day. Restaurant menu is somehow limited but a few blocks from the hotel there are great options for dinner.

« Superb location, property, customer service and gorgeous rooms »

Wouldn't hesitate to return - such a lovely hotel. ALL the staff were incredibly friendly, the public areas were very pleasant with stylish decor. Beds were extremely comfortable - I shall miss them. Lovely bathrooms.

« Very nice hotel in city center »

Excellent hotel with nice classical style in the very heart of Malmo. The staff was really helpful, room was clean, very big and confortable room and bathroom with all the amenities. I will stay again when visiting the city

« A nice, clean, pleasant hotel in a likewise swedish town close to Copenhagen »

We were surprised on how nice is that small hotel . It originally came as the only available alternative to stay nesr Copenhagen in light of a huge medical conference being held there on that very same period making almost all hotels part of their circuit and thus busy to outsiders. Even having to commute to Copenhagen and back by train every day this place in border Sweden and particularly this hotel were worth while the extra time we had to spend on the way(some 40 extra minutes) Except for the too soft mattress and too small double bed size , the hotel was very good and very charming. Breakfast was good and ambience exceptional .I am pleased (even having my back in pain due to the excessively soft bed) that we enjoyed this hotel and city very much.

    « Delightful hotel »

Loved this place. Great staff, multi lingual and always happy to help. Big comfortable room with a sitting area and a bath. Beautifully decorated. The breakfast was fine though nothing to rave about. Is recommend it.

    « Perfect hotel! »

The hotel is amazing. Pretty, clean, excelent localization, big room. I absolutely recommend this place. I stayed with my husband and my daughter ( she is 4 years old). We are traveling by Nordic country and Malmo is amazing and this hotel is wonderful!

« Nice Hotel in a classical design »

Nice and beautiful traditional hotel in the centre of Malmö. Good and delicious breakfast. Friendly and kindly staff at the reception and in the restaurant. You're able to reach most of all attractions of Malmö bfrom the hotel by feet.

We were feeling very well in the hotel. The staff was very kind. Room was big and quiet, interior nice and nostalgic, the bed soft for sleep well. Situation central in the city. Was our first visit in Sweden and we liked it very well

« Good but room for inprovement »

Stayed here during a weekend getaway with my wife. The hotel is very well located and rather well kept. Apparently they have a new owner who is planning to renovate the rooms but they probably have not started yet since we did not notice anything (beginning of Oct 2016). Breakfast is good with ample choice of various food, the breakfast restaurant is a nice atrium space with roof windows to let the light in. Checkin and checkout was quick and smooth. Bellboy/piccolo that parked the car in the basement garage was young but mature enough to be trusted with our carkeys. The two major negatives are the bathroom that is unpractical with a bath/shower combination that is difficult to get into and that sprayed water all over the floor. Bathroom was also a bit dated and will need the upcoming renovation. The second negative are the beds that have both headboard and footboard and are absolutely terrible if you are 185cm (6' 1") or taller since you will simply not fit in the bed. Also the double bed in our room were two separate mattresses - not one queen or king mattress and are quite wobbly to sleep on. So sleep comfort was not good. We will skip this hotel next time we are in Malmö and will try one of the other nearby alternatives instead - but perhaps the upcoming renovation will solve the outstanding issues and we might stay there again.

« Nice and central hotel with good service »

Nice and central hotel with good service. Great breakfast Nice beds and rooms Very sweet and helpful staff Perfect car-parking-drop off service Only downside was that if your not on the top floor you can't open any windows for fresh air. The windows on main floor to 3'th is facing the inner closed courtyard where other guests often sit for a night cap...no fresh air and a little noisy.

    4
« Nice central hotel with a room for improvement »

Centrally placed hotel in Malmų. Very nice interior, a good atmosphere and friendly staff in the reception. Rooms are well equipped and very quiet. A fine place to stay for a night or two in Malmų. The one element that did not work was the hotel breakfast. It is selfservice, which is fine, but requires attentive staff to clean up, make sure the buffet looks attractive and there is coffee and juice available. Unfortunately all of this was lacking and the breakfast came across as little more than a youth hotel - although I am sure the quality of the food was good. It is an example of using young staff with limited experience.

« Good breakfast, rooms vintage »

I spent one night in this hotel for business trip. It's clean, staff at the reception is efficient and sympathetic. Well positioned in Malmo. Breakfast was really good. Rooms are really vintage like if you are in your grandma's house.

    5
« Professional yet comfortable environment »

Really amazing customer service, the moment you step in the door the staff is very friendly and ready to help you with anything that you need. I was very happy with how easily they were able to answer my questions and give me suggestions and help me with direction. The hotel itself is also very beautiful, big rooms with lovely decor, the bathroom is nicely updated. The lobby and the breakfast room is also very nice. The breakfast is great, such a perfect start to my day. This hotel was lovely, it was exactly what I needed. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone whom is in Malmo for business or just casually visiting.

    4
« Good hotel in excellent location »

Nice hotel in excellent location, in the middle of the city centre and in walking distance to the train station. Nice rooms, well equipped. Some installations could use a fresh-up, but overall everything works. Good breakfast buffet.

    4
    « I had a great stay »

The Servic at reception is very friendly and even remeber my Name, the brakefast is always very nice and comfortable, I just felt one of the staff did not realy like to work there and serve coffee, but at least i got it. ;) The Location is perfect and the beds are cozy

    « Big room,small bed. »

Big room, why put a small bed in a big room? The breakfast was very nice. Perfect location, Close to railwaystation. Cleaning of room, very good. Some noice from nightclubs on the street. Good service from reception.

    5
    « Excellent hotel »

Excellent location, friendly helpful staff, great room. I would definitely recommend a visit to this hotel and Malmo. Very close to bustling old town and station. New town shopping and beautiful park within a short distance.

    5
« Excellent hotel in great location »

I have stayed here many times and it is constantly excellent , I would always stay here when I am in Malmo . Breakfast is good with as much coffee that you can handle . Treat yourself , it is a little more expensive than other hotels in this location but worth it.

    5
« Charming and amazing small hotel »

Location- excellent (downtown) . Service- great. Amazing breakfast. Room- specious and well equipped. And free wifi. Small note- as the place is quite old, something the air is quite lazy in the mutual areas.

    4
« Good hotel in the center »

It was very nice hotel in the center of Malmo. Big covered yard inside with the sun for the breakfast. The room was quite little even if it was one suite, but it was typique . And the street is really noisy if the window is open. The hotel is good for some nights, to visit Malmo.

    5
    « Great find! »

This is a lovely hotel centrally located in Malmo. It is about a 10 min walk from the train. Hotel is in an older building but the rooms have been upgraded and there are lots of electrical outlets and the water pressure is fine. The larger rooms have a living room area with a big closet and a big walk-in closet. This is a great arrangement because it gives you someplace to relax. Breakfast is very good and staff are very friendly and helpful.

    « Helpful friendly staff »

I stayed between 8th and 14th Sept 2016. The staff are warm , friendly and very welcoming. More importantly they are very helpful. I misplaced my passport and they immediately swung into action to see what needed to be done, offered to make phone calls on my behalf as they could talk in Swedish and make translation easier. Also lent me a bike to retrace my route in case I had dropped it somewhere. Gave advice on where to eat, what to see and do etc. Hotel breakfast was fine with a selection of breads, cheese, cereals, fruit etc. It may be typically swedish but perhaps a small change in certain items daily woul make it more interesting but perhaps it is a standard Swedish breakfast and it would not be right to complain about it. One evening I felt like going out for an ice cream and was told that we are not an ice cream eating nation so I was advised to get one from a store...! Not a major problem though there were ice cream shops about 10 minutes walk away!

« Surprising top hotel in Malmö! »

Just elected that hotel because of location in town, own parking space and classification. But in reality every expectation had been topped: By stilish interieur, architecture, and of course the hotel staff who realized every possible wish in a warm, professional and just wonderful way! We will definitely come back!

    4
    « 4 days at Master Johan »

The roller blinds were broken so we couldn't keep the sun out. Without airco it got really hot. There was no mini fridge or drinks dispenser which would have been helpfull with the warm weather! Staff at reception and breakfast were nice!

    5
    « Central Locaion »

A central location with access to transport and restaurants. Rooms are a good size and well equipped with a high standard of cleanliness. Reception are very helpful and were quick to help with any questions.

    4
« Good stay in Malmo »

First time staying in this place, due to its nice location and recommendations read from other travellers. I would recommend this place for a short stay in Malmo, it is surrounded by very nice and friendly local Restaurants.

    4
« Comfortable with delicious breakfast »

Loved the central lounge area and breakfast room. Breakfast was great with a good array of options. Wonderful toiletries. Bathroom could have done with a little maintenance to be as pristine as I would have liked (I am however a little pedantic when it comes to this) just a little wear and tear- all aesthetic nothing functional.

    4
    « Nice location »

I always stay here when in Malmų. Nice location near Lille Torg, where you will find nice restaurants and bars. Staff is always super friendly and helpful. Room interior maybe a bit heavy, but it is fine quality. Breakfast is excellent.

    4
« Good hotels, nice location in center »

Good hotel in perfect location. Matrasses could be little softer and airco would even make it better but all together a good value for money. parking services in center is premium, internet speed was a bit disappointing

    5
« Excellent hotel in every aspect »

We spent 2 nights in this gorgeous hotel end of August.Perfect location, beautiful spacious room, kind staff, outstanding lobby where you are happy to spend some more time after a long day strolling in rhe city. You are free to drink coffee&tea and biscuits, apples are also on display in the lobby and at the reception. The restaurant where breakfast is served is very elegant and it offers a wide choice of hot&cold dishes. I can't think of anything I could complain about. It is a quality hotel for reasonable price if you hit tge last minute offer!

« Overall good with some disappointment »

I spent 2 nights in this hotel (2 nights in double room incl breakfast for a total of 1800 SEK). The bedroom was large, clean and classy. The bathroom was also very nice with a comfortable bathtub. Very quiet room with double door for extra silence. Wifi was also good. The hotel itself is an antique building in the heart of Malmo (excellent location, both close to the train station and main attractions). Breakfast was delicious. There is a 24h free tea&coffee corner available in the main "leaving room". Staff at the lobby was kind. The hotel deserves its 4 stars and I would go again. Nevertheless I need to mention few downsides: from 6 in the morning the smell from the breakfast/kitchen fills up the air of the bedroom ( even on 3rd floor), so they should do something to prevent fried bacon reaching your room. If you do not put towels on the bathroom floor they will not be changed. There is actually a sign saying that if you leave them on the rail they will not be changed and if you put them on the floor they will be replay ed. It might be my problem as I hate to put towels on a dirty bathroom floor so I prefer to wrapp them and put them near the bathtub, and that's what I did: when I returned they were still there completely wet and wrapped. At my request the room keeper kindly replaced them. The greatest disappointment is the sauna/gym area: a 1 star area in a 4 star hotel. There is such a quality contrast between the stylish hotel and the miserable layout of this place. The sauna itself is really small and badly shaped (the stove itself is placed in an unsafe place). The relax area is really unwelcoming, badly decorated and poorly curated: you will not feel you really want to go down there a second time. The managment should consider modernizing the area to a higher standard, maybe by moving the gym, adding a bigger sauna and creating a more refined & welcoming relax area. My overall experience was good and I would have given the hotel 4/5 but because of the things I just mentioned I rated it 3/5.

    5
« In the heart of the city »

Very nice, clean spatious and quiet hotel in the centre of Malmö. Excellent breakfast with lots of local food. I love all the different herring varieties they serve. Good bathrooms, friendly and efficient staff. I haven't had dinner here since youbarevin the middle of the old city center so dozens of restaurants to pick from. Less than ten minutes walking from the central train station.

    4
« Very pleasant stay, close to everything in Malmö »

We stayed here for 3 nights before taking the boat to Germany. Excellent location, close to everything in Malmö; the city center, train station (we went to Copenhagen from here, very convenient), squares with restaurants... Because of that location, there is quite some noise at night. As other reviewers mentioned, there is no A/C and opening the window will also let the noise in. The beds we had were far too small, 160cm in total. Great atrium in the hotel with nice seats. Best breakfast during our 3-week trip. Very pleasant staff, nice that there is a parking underneath the hotel although that is expensive.

    2
« No parking, no airco. Room in the lobby »

Be aware that this hotel is in the pedestrian area and has limited parking facilities. We had the misfortune having to find a parking spot of our own which is almost impossible. Our room was in the lobby and did not have airco.

    4
« Really nice place, but very busy outside »

The Master Johan is a beautiful builiding, with a wonderful roomy lobby inside. The staff are friendly, the rooms beautiful. Our room was a bit hot though -no airco. Open windows at night are no option, because there is a lot of noise from the nearby clubs and party people outside. Matresses and pillows aren't all that great either. But the bathroom is, as are many other things. So, I would recommend this hotel for sure, mainly because of the special and nice atmospehere.

    5
« Luxus in old city of Malmų »

Friendly atmosphere. Excellent service - quick and professionel. F.eks car service with parking under the hotel was really good. No wating time :-) The breakfast was really good. With more choices than we could eat.

    5
« Wonderful hotel in the middle of Malmo »

I travel a lot in Sweden and visit all kinds of hotels. I prefere cosy hotels before modern hotels. This hotel was a dream that combines the old fashion style with modern comfort. The rooms were big (two rooms in fact), the bed really good and the breakfast great! I can really recommend this hotel!

    3
    « Doesn't deserve 4 Stars »

Choose other hotels in Malmö for better breakfast, room cleanliness and facilities. Location couldn't be better. Central station within 5 min walk. If you want to explore the city, rent bikes at the hotel.

    4
« Great location and very comfortable »

The hotel is in the heart of the old town and a short walk to restaurants and shops and also to the park and old fort. The rooms are large and comfortable with good bathrooms. The breakfast buffet has a great range of breakfast foods. You can pay a bit more to get an espresso coffee but based on our experience I wouldn't bother. There was no one there who was able to make a proper espresso coffee when we were there so you might as well stick with the percolated brew (or have tea). The staff are all helpful. This is a good place to stay in Malmo.

    3
« A nice place to stay in Malmö »

A good hotel to stay in Malmö, with friendly service. A good place for staying in Malmö but also for passing through when traveling in Sweden. Nearby the trainstation, parking places and Malmö city centre. Overall-rating is Good (not very good or average)

    « High-quality hotel, reasonable rates. »

Mäster Johan is widely regarded in Malmö as the best hotel, and I have found this to be true in my repeated stays there for both vacation and business. The rooms are spacious and nicely furnished, the staff is very accommodating, and the breakfast is fabulous. The rates are the same as they are at hotels that offer only half the value. I highly recommend. If you are a light sleeper, you might request a room that does not have its windows on the street side of the hotel since the hotel is located in the city center, which can be loud at night.

    5
    « Excellent hotel »

The room we had is very spaceful, quiet and light. It is a pleasure to stay here, a very good breakfast in a cosy open atmosphere. The location is nearby the station and the inner city. You can rent bikes for several trips, sightseeing to the torso tower, the beach and the old part of Malmo. A friendly staff and avery good service.

    5
    « A luxurious haven in Malmö »

Affordable luxury in the heart of old town. Quality rooms, excellent service. Close to restaurants, parks, the train station and buses. I will definitely stay here again. An exquisite hotel that stands out from the crowd for its service, hospitality, quality and affordability.

    5
    « Nice place »

Nice ambience with a perfect location between Central Station and the city of Malmö. Kindly staff and a really good breakfast, particularly the dishes in connection with tables and food. We think we want to stay again in a few months.

    5
    « Lovely stay »

Very light and spacious hotel. The staff were excellent. Fantastic choice for breakfast. The room was light but probably needed better ventilation (most European hotel rooms do!) There was quite a bit of street noise in the morning but that's to be expected in a very central location.

    5
« Hotel with caracter and good quality in the center »

Large room, quiet, delicious breakfast-one of the best we had. Very clean. Fresh flower at several places in the hotel, tea and cakes for free any time in the lobby. Not a 0815 Hotel at all, but one with lot of caracter and love in details.

    « Death of a Shower »

I had one of the more surreal experiences of my traveling career at this hotel. When I walked into my room (207) for the first time, there was an extremely loud noise coming from the bathroom - so loud that I thought there had to be some sort of repair work or drilling taking place directly behind the bathroom. I'm not talking about just a mild nuisance - I mean deafeningly loud. I walked into the bathroom, and discovered that the noise was coming from the shower itself, one of the strangest, most ungodly noises I've ever heard emanating from an appliance of any kind. After messing around with the dials, I managed to get the noise to stop, but in the process of then trying to take a shower, the noise would start again in earnest every time I attempted to get some running water going. Realizing that it was futile, I went back to the reception with a video of the problem at hand to show what was going on. I have to admit, I found the whole thing kind of funny because it was just so ridiculous. So the guy at reception then promptly moves me to another room (he was quick about it to his credit), but when I walked into the bathroom in my new room (211) I literally burst out laughing when I saw that the toilet was literally IN the shower. What is it with the bathrooms in this place?? I've uploaded a photo to give people a look at this magnificent shower-toilet hybrid. In fairness, the place is not overall too bad. It's a bit bland, doesn't have much of a vibe, and the breakfast is kind of blah - but it's fairly clean and the rooms are nice enough, especially for the price. In retrospect though, I probably would have stayed at the Renaissance next door which seemed a little more lively.

    4
    « Excellent »

Booked through booking.com, and chose this hotel among other reasons because i thought there would be a bathtub in the room as it said so on the site, there were not. Every thing else was perfect, would visit again or recommend to others. Excellent location walking distance from malmö C and hotel great in general

    5
    « Perfect location »

Located right off "Stora Torg" where all the action and nice outdoor restaurants are in Malmö, with a very nice hotel, nice staff and very nice rooms I can only recommend the hotel. Specially when they offer nice discount prices.

    5
    « Very nice hotel ! »

Very nice hotel, excelent position , very friendly staff, room was really big and very clean.Breakfast room decorated like a home chicken. No difference between this hotel and many of five stars, this one was even better !

« Average hotel with great location »

We decided to try a new hotel in Malmö this time, and reviews for Mäster Johan are generally excellent. Maybe this led us to expect too much. Our room (large business room) was indeed large. However, the bathroom was very small, and lacked places to put toiletteries, clothes etc. No shelves, no tables, so we ended up using the toilet lid. There was no in-room safety box, and no minibar/fridge - things I thought would be standard amenities today in most hotels in this price bracket. Room decor was... let's be polite and say: Uninspiring. If you are not familiar with the early sunrise of Scandinavian summers, the curtains will surely disappoint you. It was totally impossible to make the cheap IKEA type blinds shut close, and consequently the room was well lit up very early in the morning. Cleanliness could be better. Someone left some potato crisps in the corner, and the overall impression was so-so. Summary: Not really bad, but not outstanding either.

    « Just excellent »

We felt so wellcome, carried on hands. Charming and helpful. staff. Seems to be made recently, new konzept in an old building, modern and classic style, very well arranged and mixed up. Of course we will go back there the next time we'll stay in Malmö.

« Great centre for exploring Malmo and beyond »

Our room on the 4th floor was spacious and comfortable. There is good noise insulation overall, although the local restaurants may be a bit noisy on Friday and Saturday nights. The hotel is very close to the main train station and great restaurants. At the nearby museum there is a temporary exhibition for The Bridge until September, but you might want to check whether Saga's car is back from being serviced!

« Best hotel in Malmö »

Once again a very nice stay at Mäster Johan. We love the (mostly) good, friendly and helpful approach of the staff (save for one odd man who seemed exceptionally uninterested in the sleeping arrangements for our nine months baby - to the point where he claimed that they didn't even have a spare matress or blanket on which he could sleep. Wheret he baby could sleep, that is, not the front desk manager). Mäster Johan manages to keep an upscale boutique atmosphere through small means and a very strong attention to detail. Rooms, breakfast and communal areas are updated, well appointed and very clean. The styling is low key, but very approachable. As most Malmöites will attest to - Mäster Johan is the hotel to stay at in Malmö.

    « Centrally located »

Stayed for two nights' midweek on a business trip last week July '16. Drove across from Copenhagen and the hotel was easy to find and traffic was light however you do have to either pay for street parking after 8pm or use the hotel car park which you also have to pay for. Check in- This was quick and painless and in some places it really is not so this is always appreciated so quickly into the lift and upstairs which you always want when you're travelling. The room was quite large with a separate sitting room and bedroom area with plenty of natural light from four large windows which faced the building opposite. First impressions were good plenty of space and very clean with a nice sitting area with two TV's, one in the sitting area and the other in the bedroom. Bedroom- Large with a good size double bed again two good size windows and also the bed was a proper double not two singles pushed together and very comfortable so a couple of good night's sleep were had. Bathroom- Nice size and clean with a ?step in? bath/shower which was easy to use (some you need a degree to use) and the bath products were good, not too fancy just average shower gel/shampoo etc. General- WiFi was really good and free No Air con so a large standing fan was available in the room which was fine Iron and ironing board in room, it was one of those table top ironing boards, a bit weird but functional Area, was very central just around the corner from the main square so really good for food and drinks.

    « Malmo Location,location???? »

Confirming other reviews regarding quality of sleep. This hotel and the others nearby, is in the heart of Malmo which is great for walking around town, terrible for sleeping. This review only applies to rooms on the streets or if you want to open the window at all. The courtyard rooms face a wall and will be quieter, but very closed in. We stayed in mid June, perfect weather for fresh air. After reading other reviews we were prepared for the nighttime noises from the loud bar drunks that usually die down about 3 AM. We were not prepared for the fighting, screaming seagulls beginning about 4 AM, the Daily Trash pick up trucks running for hours below the rooms from about 7 AM on, the City street replacing of the cobblestones with jack hammers at 8 AM till late afternoons. Even with the windows closed, the vibrations from the trash trucks and street repairs are felt. The reception personnel apologized for the jackhammers and compt'd our cappuccinos. Malmo is picturesque for the first day, overpriced restaurants, and closes up early about 9 PM with the exception of the many bars. We stayed here as an alternative to expensive Copenhagen not realizing that traveling by car was a $90 daily fee roundtrip on the Bridge to Denmark. The Hotel rooms, with old furniture, are remodeled, except for the good sized bathrooms with a very high step into the older tub shower combo that will splash over the floor. This is a decent, clean, B&B type run hotel that in the colder weather at a lower price than $220.for 5 nights is recommended for a 1 or 2 night stay, when the street repairs are completed.

« Brilliant location, spacious and stylish »

The location is great - very near the buzzy Lilla Torge Square and ten minutes from the railway station. The public areas were spacious and fitted out in a contemporary style. The bedroom was large and nicely furnished but it's worth checking what exactly your room looks over as outside can be noisy and some rooms face inwards. The breakfast was excellent. We loved the way it was set up like someone's home kitchen and you helped yourself to bacon and eggs frying on the hob! There is a garage beneath the hotel although the parking isn't cheap. We enjoyed our stay here and would stay again.

    « Great hotel - this is a Place »

This is not just another storage area for people, this is a Place. If you are tired with chain hotels looking the same and would like to taste a different luxury - try this one. This hotel has a soul, has a heart. But concrete facts: - very spacious rooms with very good air - very good bathroom - very nice staff - great location (next to the best dining places and bars, close to public transport) - very tasty breakfast.

« Good hotel but some drawbacks »

We stayed at this hotel for one night in June after reading all the great review here on Tripadvisor. Over all the hotel was very good. It is very centrally located and the reception and the public spaces are really neat and nice. The breakfast buffet was great, offering great variety in beautiful surroundings. I was a bit disappointed when arriving that our room was not ready and we were told to take a walk outside, we were only half an hour early and were really tired. Then another disappointment was when entering the room we got; it was on second floor and only window was facing the inside common space. So all the time while we stayed there we heard music from the public space and watched people getting drinks. No option to ventilate through open window since it was only facing inside space. The room itself was fine with comfortable beds and good bathroom. We wanted to rent bikes from the hotel like they offer but in this day we stayed there all the bikes were out. Not sure if staying again, when we were checking the prices we could have booked many other hotels for same price which I would probably do next time. Overall, good hotel but some drawbacks that made us disappointed.

« A small gem in the center »

It is a very conveniently located small hotel, with a lot of charm and individual touch. Great service, spacious rooms, clean and comfortable. Good for any type of stay. Close to railway station, bus stop from the airport and all major attractions. Plenty of restaurants and bars in close vicinity. Fair price for the value.

« Good place to stay in Malmo »

We spent 4 nights here. Very central and extremely friendly and helpful staff. The communal areas and breakfast room were very light and well furnished. The bedroom and bathroom were fine and very clean and the bed comfortable. The only reason we haven't given 5 out of 5 is because the furnishings and fittings in our room were tired and needed updating which we understand will happen later in the year.

    5
« Perfect across the board! »

Excellent location in MALMO. Super clean and easy to check in and out. Parking available. Best breakfast in 21 day in Northern Europe. We will return, Jc Pc NOTE: The hotel has recently been sold (one month prior to our stay) . With that said, our stay was perfect, I suspect yours will be too.

« Beautifully renovated older style hotel. »

A short walk from the Central Station to this well located hotel in a normally quiet street just off Lilla Torg (the old square). It is a beautifully renovated older style hotel set around an attractive atrium providing great atmosphere, lots of light, and an excellent breakfast location. The room was attractive and spacious with windows that opened onto the street - the only downside were streetworks at the time.

« high style without high price »

Really loved my stay, the hotel has really interesting interiors, very inviting and lots of light . Really nice rooms, very comfortable bed, bath robes provided. Windows could be opened. Excellent breakfast in really nice space. Tea, coffee, cookies and apples always available. Very fast internet access. Staff very friendly and incredibly helpful. The hotel has great location, near station and most of Malmo attractions. The restaurant recommended by the hotel reception was really amazing.

    « Down town hotel »

Good Location modern interior in the Lobby and Restaurant rooms seem to be ok apart from 512 and 514 (room in the Basement, where you have the Feeling that delivery trucks are running over you...) really bad and noisy Breakfast was ok poor value for money!

    « A Gem »

After a five minute walk from the Central Station we arrived to find a delightful Hotel in a quiet street where the staff were welcoming and spoke the excellent English that we ?Brits? always seem to expect. Our room was spacious and very comfortable and very little could be done to improve on it. The new Owners who acquired the Hotel only four weeks ago have purchased a little gem and the additions that they intend making will make this already very desirable location a must place to stay, so much better than the large soulless edifices that we are asked to support. All credit to the Staff and Management for creating such a delightful atmosphere.

« A real gem in the heart of Malmo! »

This is one of the best ever hotels I have been! A fantastic mixture between a modern chic and s homely feeling! Beds are great, comfortable and big, pillows are also great, everything is clean, room is very quiet as there are double doors which really protect from any noise. There was even a candle in the bathroom for a romantic bath! We loved this hotel! Will definitely be back and will recommend to all our friends who wish to visit Malmo and Copenhagen. You can also rent bikes for free. Last but not least, breakfast is amazing!

« Average with potential to be more »

A lack of info about the hotel and services was the main gripe. It seemed a smooth easy check in until we got to the room and couldn't find a minibar and no info if there was a bar service or room service. No hotel info in the room about the sauna or gym or other facilities. The junior suite room was spacious but cozy, comfy bed. The accessories were very outdated, a phone from the 1980's and a cassette and CD player!! We weren't sure if they wet intending to be retro or just did a major renovation in the 80's and only minor updates since. The bathroom fixtures are also very dated but all adequate. The room and bathroom was very clean. Location for central Malmö and just 5mins from the train station is great. Very peaceful despite being in in the heart of the city and right next to the busy square.

    « Utmärkt! »

Would recommend staying here even if you are flying in or out of Copenhagen (close to train station and maybe about 45 minutes to go straight to Copenhagen airport). Malmo is an interesting, not too touristy city. Day excursion to Lund from Malmo was fun. Hotel and breakfasts were wonderful.

« Better than Copenhagen Hotels »

Stayed here due to no availability in Copenhagen: better rooms, friendlier staff, nicer breakfast and free entry to a gym. Far better value for money (the hotel was a good £30 ($50) cheaper than central Copenhagen.

    « A home away from home »

Very inviting and cosy hotel in a very central, quiet area. You feel the owner and the staff really loves to care for their guests. The rooms are very different but really nicely decorated and large. Breakfast is quite good and you find everything you wish for. There is a lot of good recommendations for restaurants and things to do in the guide you find in your room.

    « Well worth considering »

Pretty hotel and very convenient for Malmo city centre. Set in an old beautiful building so oozing with character. Service lets it down. Lovely people, they just don't get the whole concept of providing a service. Examples 1. We booked valet parking. Arrived at 5pm. No valet. So 'valetless valet parking'! 2. Trying to order a bar drink at 9:30 took a out 15 minutes.

« Old but Modern Hotel »

I stayed here for only one night. The hotel has a great location for the old down town. Basically it is just around the corner. From the outside it looks like like an old building but from the inside everything is modern. Yes, the furniture is classical which ads to the charm of the hotel. Did not deal with a lot of the staff but the reception staff person was amazing in helping and in friendliness. The only thing I did not like was the TV channel choices. Not a lot of English language channels. True most local TV stations subtitled the English programs but still there were a lot of non English programming. But, to be fair. If you are here and visiting this nice city I think TV should be the last thing in your mind.

« Outstanding stay in a first class hotel »

I cannot praise this beautiful hotel or the charming staff highly enough. The best thing I can say, is that I never at any time felt like I was staying in a hotel, rather a guest in someone's lovely home. The location is perfect, bang beside the most delightful Lilla Torg of little square, where cafés, restaurants and places of interest lie side by side, waiting to be explored. Copenhagen may roll, but Malmö ROCKS!

    « What a fantastic place! »

I wish I'd stayed there for more days.. A real Swedish hotel, clean, quiet, cozy and amazing breakfast. This should be the place to stay if in Malmö. Centrally located, 5 min walk from Malmö Central St. I'll definitely go back and recommend it to all my friends. WONDERFUL!!

    « Exellent »

We stayed two nights at this fabulous hotel with beautiful decor of natural materials. Elegant and tasteful. The breakfast was served on the incredibly beautiful and magnificent porcelain. We were very kindly treated. Coffee or tea was available for free in a heated and pleasant atrium room. We return to Hotel Master Johan when spring comes

« You cant go wrong at Master Johan »

First time back in almost a decade at the Master Johan and it is still a good (the best??) choice for central Malmo and the Lila Torg area. Clean, uncluttered, comfortable - and pleasantly warm which was essential as Malmo had its first snow of the winter while I was there.

« Central location, modern interior in an old-fashioned building »

What a pleasant surprise! Outside it looks like any musty looking building, but inside is a very clean modern scandinavian look. The room is comfortable and spacious, with good control of lighting. But it is the large, well.appointed bathroom with its well thought out amenities like heated floor, bathtub with safety handles, heated towel hangers, a sweet candle holder, plush robes, etc. Breakfast was complete, with both warm and cold offerings, healthy and unhealthy bits, etc. nicely laid out so guests would not be on top of each other. Newspaper options and little vases of fresh flowers - nice touch. Will definitely recommend this hotel to others.

    « Great location , classic hotel. »

Stayed one night while touring Sweden. Hotel is close to central station , Hotel looks much smaller from outside. We stayed in a lovely old fashioned room on the 2nd floor. The room was large and had kingsize bed , it overlooked the street. All furnishings wer of good quality and comfortable. The bathroom was large and had big mirror and different levels of lighting . there was a large bathtub with I enjoyed . I relaxed in a fooam bath by cndlelight. There are candleholders around the bath and a little box of matches for lighting them, i found this most relaxing. The breakfast room was of a good size and had comfortable seating. Breakfast was good with enough choise, I had coffee, bread, boiled egg , ham , cheese and tomato. i only ever had contact with staff at reception. They were polite , helpful and spoke good english. I would recommend this hotel for , singles, couples .

    « Highly overrated »

I booked this hotel based on its overall good reviews but left rather disappointed. Certainly not worth the rate paid (ca 210 USD, which is rather a lot for the location). On the sunny side: Good central location, reasonable breakfast, good size room (404), spatious bathroom. The bed was OK, though a tad to hard for my taste. On the shadier side: My room was in dire need of deep cleaning: dusty carpet, stains on furniture and walls, filthy shower section (see pics), smashed insect remains on bathroom wall. I could not operate the dated TV set as the remote control was disgustingly filthy (pic). Worn/stained furniture, dated lighting fittings. I always inspect matresses and sheets before going to bed. No sign of bed-bugs (great) but plenty of hair from previous guests - yuk!! Staff hit and miss; frosty reception at check/in (young lady) but the rest of the personnel was mainly friendly. A word of caution: room 404 has a slanted roof and you have to watch out to not bump your head. I did as I was accessing the phone, likely due to the dim lighting and the protruding slanted wall kind of melting in with the rest of that wall section. Very difficult to see if you are not careful. I contracted a two-inch bruise...the staff came up quickly with desinfecting tissues... Of course, I should have been more careful...I'll blame it on jet lag... Overall - not worth the price paid, unlikely to stay here again.

« Excellent Hotel. Great Location. Wonderful breakfast . good sauna. Hotel bike hire »

I loved this Hotel, simple, but elegant at the same time. great lounge/lobby area. I had a standard double room and it was excellent.(although would have preferred a view on the courtyard instead of the road) cozy comfortable bed with duvet and pillows you can snuggle into. Good selection of toiletries, slippers and dressing gown.wifi. Very clean. Take a sauna just before going too bed. wonderful. Large fluffy white towels. Very good breakfast, great selection. the only thing to moan about was the burnt bacon (with carbon). the herring and condiments were great. Good coffee. The hotel hires a bike that you find in the foyer for 60 Krona rental. I cycled around Malmo and loved it. Excellent restaurants 50 metres to Lilla Torg. Especially the fish restaurant Johan P. The Hotel Reception Gent was very informative, and his English was impeccable.

« Home away from home »

Exceptionally friendly and comfortable hotel with great location. Open lobby/lounge that feels like an enormous living room. Large and quiet room with very comfortable bed and bathroom with full-size bath and stylish decor. Personal touch on a lot of small thing. Only minor negative is that desk in room is a bit small for work use.

    « Best in town! »

We stayed there for a weekend. Great brunch, nice staff. Close to the shopping streets and restaurants. The beds are really high standard. Really nice lobby if you want to work for a few hours and -> free wifi.

« Boutique feeling, great breakfast. »

Stayed on business in Copenhagen. Only 25 minutes on the train from that conference-packed city. Got a big room on the ground floor facing a pedestrian street. that was ok, until some workers started around 6 am. Really great breakfast. Make sure you have enough time. Friendly staff.

    « A great hotel »

Hotel was centrally located in a quiet area and near good restaurants. The room was really good. Perhaps the only thing they could update is the tv. The breakfast was fine but nothing spectacular. The Wifi worked really well.

    « Prefect hotel »

We stayed two nights and it has been a great experience- the location is tip top in the middle of old town with plenty of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants to choose from, hotel rooms are quite spacious and they have all the modern facilities including a B&o TV. We stayed during the week and it was very quite and noise free. Thanks for the wonderful stay

    « Old-style hotel with charm »

We had asked for a quiet room away from the street, bearing in mind that the hotel is in the heart of the city centre, and we got a quiet room which we were pleased about. The hotel is pseudo-old which meant one tap each for hot and cold water, a bit too old-fashioned for us, but part of the ambiance. Bed, Dux, was very comfortable. Service good at check-in desk. Breakfast buffet was good, but a bit crammed and made it a bit difficult to reach, for example the hot dishes and the fresh fruit. Valet parking costs extra, but that is to be expected in the city centre in a city where there is no free parking for anyone.

    5
« Most quiet hotel room ever »

This is a boutique hotel with a differnce. So much attention is paid to the gustes' well-being and especially seep quality. Every room has double doors and soundproofing measures that you never hear other guests and right in the heart of downtown action. Well-appointed in every way. Attentive and friendly staff round it all out. The only place to stay in Malmö.

    « A very pleasant hotel »

This was a lovely hotel, albeit a bit confusing on where the Bar and restaurant was. There is no bar or restaurant, you have to ask the hotel receptionist for someone to serve you, which I found odd. You also had a room service menu that you could order food to be sent to your room, but not to your table - again I found that a bit weird. However, the room was lovely, bed most comfortable (and big) and the service was second to non. On the day of departure we couldn't get a taxi so had to resort to walking in the rain. But the receptionist gave me a lovely hotel brolly gratis! result.
