« More pleasant than many five-star hotels »

Hotel Slon in the very middle of Ljubljana makes you feel welcome right away. The service is friendly and accomodating and the decor is sober and classic. My room was very pleasant - at the very end of a long corridor, but with a small balcony as a bonus. All necessary amenities are there, it's nicely decorated and comfortable. Breakfast is nice and sumptuous and with a wide selection of both buffet items and breakfast specials to be ordered. The only minus, I could note was the quality of the fittings in the bathroom, where the wall-mounted shower was loose and the cap of the faucet fell off every time I usesd it. However, having stayed at some five-star hotels around Europe lately, my immediate reaction was that this one - with its four stars - matched in most respects.

    « Review of Hotel »

A nice centrally located hotel very close to the city's sights and in a quiet road in which buses only can traverse. A pre-booking on line could yield a reasonable price and rooms are very comfortable with a great view of the castle available on its higher floors. It has a bar, restaurant, spa and a small gym. Worth choosing for a Ljubljana city break.

« Very nice hotel, a stroll away from the main attractions! »

I stayed here with colleagues at a conference for three nights. There is work ongoing in renovating the lobby, but it's nearly finished and not intrusive. Staff were efficient and friendly. The room was reasonably sized, with large comfortable beds and nice crisp linens. The bathroom was fine but a little dated. The room was equipped with a large flat screen TV with a good range of English language stations (amongst others), a safe, robes, and good complimentary high-speed WIFI (about 8 Mbps). The heating system is easily controlled and you can partly open the windows. I found the room quiet at night and as the area is pedestrianised, there was no road noise. The breakfast in the hotel is excellent with a buffet selection of hot/cold dishes and a range of dishes you can order from the kitchen (including eggs Benedict which is my favourite). The bar area is great during the day for coffees, teas and nice cakes - all of which are very reasonable. In the evening time, you can enjoy nice local beers (Lasko or Union) at very reasonable prices. The bar area is very popular with increasingly affluent locals. The main square, castle, main bars and restaurants, and the pedestrianised city centre are an easy still from this hotel. The 'three bridges' is only about 300 metres from the hotel. The area feels very nice and safe at night. The hotel facilities were also great for the conference. I would recommend this hotel. Tip: If you are travelling to/from the airport, ask the hotel to book you a taxi - we paid €50 on the way in from the airport by picking up a cab in the rank. On the way back, we asked the hotel to arrange and it cost us only €28.

    « Tired and dated »

Over the past decades I have stayed in very many hotels around the world and Slon belongs to the worst bunch. Instead of focusing on remaking the lobby, all the rooms should be brought to this century soonest possible. ARRIVAL & FIRST IMPRESSIONS My 2,5 out of 5 for first impressions. Arriving on Sunday evening there was a long queue for checking in. Several flights had reached Ljubljana at around the same time and all poured in at the same time. The lobby was under renovation and check in was in a small side room that could not fit all. However the check in process was efficient and the queue disappeared fast. From outside the white Art Deco building has been renovated lately - adding led strip lights to bring out the curved balconies. When the lobby renovation is finished the guest expectations are lifted to a new level. Only be to sent crushing down when entering your floor and room. ROOM Room hardly deserves more than 1 out of five. My room was located at the end of a very long corridor with worn out carpet. While walking to the room I could hear TV sound, someone taking a shower and talking through the paper thin doors. My room was small and there was a smell of mould and old cigarettes lingering in the air. Bathroom was so small that one could hardly fit in. The only modern fitting in the room was the large TV screen. All other furniture was badly warn in mishmash of different wood colours. TV had plenty of channels - possibly the only positive thing in the room. BREAKFAST For the food 3 / 5 but for the space 2 / 5. Served in floor 1 restaurant at the back of the building the breakfast was surprisingly good for what this hotel is otherwise. The breakfast room - like all other spaces above lobby level - is I dire need for refurbishment. CONCLUSIONS I would simply look for another hotel to stay in. The location in the centre in good but Ljubljana is a small town and pretty much all hotels in the centre are equally well located.

    « Perfect! »

Excellent location, less than a five minute walk to the heart of the old town. Large, clean rooms - and we had both the updated and older rooms (had booked two rooms). Breakfast, buffet style, was really quite good. Everything was fresh, nicely presented with more than enough variety. Service staff, in all parts of the hotel, were friendly and attentive. As an option to the hotel's valet parking, you can find street parking within a 1-2 minute walk (metered during the day (inconvenient) but free overnight until 8 am). Another alternative is an open air parking lot 3-4 minutes walk away on the main street with an automated pay system (ie. you can leave your car as long as you want and pay for the days parked upon exit).

« Nice hotel in Ljubljana »

We stayed in this hotel for a couple of nights. Overall, the hotels design is very clean and simplistic. It could use more decorations within the rooms and the lobby. Location is good, as is the breakfast. Pleasant stay overall

    « Elephant in Ljubljana »

Named after Elephant this hotel in functionalist architecture style (20s-30s of 20th century) offered comfortable spacious room, lovely lobby cafe with delicious home-made cakes, friendly staff. Perfect location in the city centre. ''SLON' is big and good.

« Very expensive for that offer »

I was there on Business trip, spent two nights at Hotel, very noise some print company is in backyard of this hotel ! Staff is ok , food -4, rooms are 3stars not more, special bathroom is ugly and small , 2 stars hotels have better bathroom , conference room is nice and ok

    3
« Noisy, and under construction »

Average accommodations at best. Although the hotel is being improved, I doubt they can correct the poorly insulated walls and floors. You can hear every step of your neighbor above, the voices and doors slamming in the hall. The hotel has earplugs in each room, so the problem must be pervasive. On the positive, the staff is good and the breakfast is excellent, but that can't make up for the other shortcomings.

    « Ljubljana »

Luxurious hotel for reasonable price in city centre. Triple Bridge and all main tourist attractions just a couple of minutes walk away. Bed was very comfortable and breakfast very elegant. Ideal for couple of nights in the city.

The hotel is in a fantastic position for visiting the town. The staff is very friendly, helpful, available and well organized despite the reception is being renovated. Breakfast is rich and very tasty. I strongly recommend this hotel.

« Tiny rooms, but otherwise great »

I was honestly not very impressed with my room at the Best Western Hotel. Even though clean, it was really tiny (you could barely make two steps in the room as it was filled entirely with the bed). Unfortunately it also smelled as if it used to be a smoker room not too long ago and was never properly renovated after that. I would still rate the hotel with 4 stars though. The reasons: A perfect location that couldn't be better and a great breakfast buffet. The staff were also quite friendly and even though the hotel was undergoing major renovations while I stayed there, they offered free sparkling wine for all guests as an apology in the lobby. The hotel also has a gym (small but with a range of new equipment), which was another major plus for me.

    3
    « Would go again »

great location, renovations may be needed to drainage as lobby area had the odour de loo. Service was slow in the bar and frankfurters were served as sausages at breakfast and the bacon was poor. other than that it was great

    5
« Excellent hotel and location »

This hotel is lovely. The rooms are very big and spacious, and there is a definite luxurious feel to the hotel. The staff were very friendly and the location of the hotel could not have been better. The city itself was wonderful and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone planning a visit to Ljubljana.

    4
    « Great Hotel »

Excellent location, very pleasant service, rich buffet breakfast. The room was clean and well organized. The only negative thing was that the room was facing the back of the hotel and if you leave the window open during the night you could hear noise from fans/ air-condition units of the hotel.

    4
    « Alright »

When we visited, the hotel was under renovation. Renovation of the hotel bar is finished. Well done. Modern and comfortable. The street by the hotel is closed for traffic, that it is quite pleasant. The rooms are fine. Not the newest, but clean. Breakfast is excellent. Great choice of food. From flakes, sausage, cheese, honey, jam, butter, all for a traditional English breakfast, etc ... Great! Maybe, they could considered juice extractor, where you can create fresh juice (fruit or vegetable juice). We also visited the spa. For this rang of the hotel I expected more from it. They have some sort of spa / fitness reception. However, no one was there. Too bad. It would be nice if someone would greet you and offered you a towel. Spa is small. They only have 6 sun lounger. Under the spa is fitness from which you hear the music. The music is fine for a gym, but for spa is just uncomfortable (relaxing music would be great for spa). Others lack of spa are showers. When you step out of the shower they put towels on the floor. These towels are after one hour soaked. Uncomfortable and unhygienic. Towels for the spa are stuck next to a flower holder - this could be a little better arranged. Spa does not fit to the hotel and I hope that this is also in the plan of renovation. Hotel staff is friendly, professional and helpful, at reception, in the bar and in the restaurant.

    « Perfect stay »

Just great! Central location Supreme breakfast. The honey is to die for! Some details need fixed or renewed but hygene is perfect. You can hear the bell's quite well from 1 side of the hotel so better ask at the reception if you want a quiet night! Ideal for leisure and business

« Another good hotel option in Ljubljana »

The corner suites in Slon are also a nice way to stay in Ljubljana. Good location of the hotel, friendly staff, good breakfast, nice and spacious suite, everything in place. I would recommend also Slon for a stay in Ljubljana.

« ideal hotel ,value for money ,good location and great breakfast »

the hotel was under renovation ,however the new rooms are very nice .in the bathroom the direction of the shower is wrong ,due to which the toilet gets fully wet . location is ideal , the breakfast spread is one of the best in Europe I have had so far . air-conditioning needs improvement .it does not work well and we had to complain a couple of times .

« Location, Staff, Comfort - this hotel has it all - Great! »

I stayed at this hotel for work for 5 days and then for pleasure following a conference I attended. One of the social occasions was as the hotel and it was flawless. This hotel is close to the convention center (Congress Hall) and around the corner form the city square so the location is the best! I interacted with many different people on staff there and every one of them was eager to accommodate, cheerful and professional. I felt so comfortable. The lobby and reception area are under construction but everything was still handled professionally and pleasantly. This is a friendly hotel that you look forward to coming back to. So great location, great rooms, and fantastic breakfast with yet another group of people that just want to help you have a great stay. I would stay here again and again. I had two level of rooms while I was there and both were comfortable. I really could go on and on about the hotel and even Ljubljana and Slovenia. I loved every minute I was there!!!! Hotel Slon really has everything you could ever want!!!!

    « Spacious, comfortable »

This hotel has an excellent location, stylish rooms and new bathrooms. The bell staff is efficient and helpful. We asked for a second luggage rack and the bellman cam back with one in less than 5 minutes. The buffet breakfast (included in the room price) was amazing, a long spread down two sides of a giant buffet table, plus a separate service area for coffee and tea. The buffet features eggs cooked 3 different ways, a wide array of breads, rolls and croissants, yogurts, fresh fruit, cold cuts, grilled vegetables, etc. -- an obvious nod to the international travelers who stay here. Note: be sure to read any inserts in the envelope with your hotel key. We stayed four nights, and as we were packing to leave, found the coupons for several excellent free offers at the hotel (free bottle of wine, two-for-one drinks). Sorry to have missed that.

« Best Conference and Private Hotel in Ljubljana »

I very seldom give 5 stars, but when I do it means it is great. This hotel for the location and set up is fantastic. In the middle of the town and it has a very cool conference venue, but that is not what makes it so special. The staff is incredible. Helena, the conference manager is the best manager I have ever had. Her staff and the hotel staff is fantastic. I think the Best Western should give Helena the Premier award. With all the conferences we have had this is the best service we have become. I also love the hotel. Thank you for the great experience from the members of SIINDA you are great and from me personally you are the best.

« Not able to get out of the shower without my leg touching the toilet! »

I've been to Ljubjana because of a conference and was part of the package. I spend in total 4 days in this hotel. It is true; Not able to get out of the shower without my leg touching the toilet! The room and bathrooms are so small. This was one of the worst hotel experiences I had in a long time. The location is great in the center, close tonall shops and good restaurants. The service and staff is good. The lobby and bar are good too, bad the conference space, the rooms are soo outdated. Check out my pictures. This hotel is the 10th out of 29 hotels on Tripadivsor. So if you can choose, choose something else. I am part of the 1% most influanceable contributers on Tripadvisor, please check out my other reviews as well.

« Centrally located worn hotel in need of major refurbishment. Very small rooms. »

Staff is friendly though the hotel is pricey, rooms are small and breakfast is poor. The highlight of this hotel is the lobby bar/café which is fine and baked goods are great. The rest of the hotel needs a major renovation.

    4
    « very nice stay »

The hotel is clean and the room we had had an authentic wooden floor (Haussmanian style). they always have nice flowers in the lobby and a place where you can buy the local cakes. The breakfast is diverse and taste good. The staff is friendly and helpful. We were just a bit disturbed once by a group of people talking loudly in the corridor during the night. I can only recommand.

    5
    « Excellent! »

Third time staying here, and I'm pleased to say that the standard hasn't slipped at all. The staff are without exception polite, friendly and professional in every respect. The room was spotlessly clean, and extremely comfortable. Bedding is very high quality making for a great nights sleep. The toiletries in the bathroom were top quality, and plentiful. Tricky to get to with a car, until you realise that the "pedestrian only" road can also be used by guests of the hotel, but the staff will park the car for you afterwards (there is a fee for parking overnight) but for a central hotel this is to be expected. Will definitely stay again.

    4
    « Place to go »

This is a perfectly located hotel. Between the heart of the city, with a lot of great restaurants and bars, full of life at night and the great green hilly area where you would enjoy great running or walking time with awesome views on old town! Rooms are clean, well set up and hotel members provide high quality service! I can't imagine going anywhere else during my next trip to Ljubljana!

    4
« Reasonable option in downtown Ljubljana »

Ljubljana is not overwhelmed with outstanding hotel options. Local politics keeps out the big names, and as a result sometimes staying here can feel like a trip though time back to the 1980s. The Slon is OK, the rooms are comfortable (if sometimes very small), service is capable if not overly warm and the breakfast is adequate. Overall my advice remains to book the Hotel Cubo if your budget allows or otherwise look at Air B&B.

    3
« Central location, good service, reasonable quality and value for money »

I arrived quite late and departed early. Reception served me in both occasions nicely and things rolled smoothly. Room was quite small but did its job, i.e. the few hours of sleep were real rest. Reception helped me with a breakfast-to-go, as I left the hotel before 6 a.m. Got mixed feelings. Pros are the location and good service. A bit of a con is that the hotel itself still holds "charms" of The former Soviet Empire. Architecture in and out is not too pleasing. I am sensitive for smells and that was really something which I did not like. Obviously some cleaning chemicals were smelling do much that I had some difficulties. From my perspective the price for value was just reasonable. Seeing and tasting the breakfast might have improved a bit.

« Incrível e confortável, hotel, para você se hospedar em Ljubliana !!! Awesome hotel in Ljubliana to stay !!!! »

The capital of Slovenia, which to me so far, along with Karlovy Vary (Czech Rep.) and Budapest were the my favorite out of all the cities and European capitals, with this year's trip, necessarily have to include the capital of Latvia, Riga; and not a city but the entire country of incredible LITHUANIA that sum is now to Poland, two countries that I recommend to those who love to travel and start to know them in full. The hotel Slon is located in one of the best places for you to go through almost everything on foot, comfortable, modern, with large rooms I recommend !!!!

    4
« Good but not excellent »

I have read a lot of incredible good reviews, but I cannot agree with them. The hotel is correct, not bad, with a very good location. But the room didn't meet my expectations, specially according to the Price (150€/night). Breakfast is ok, varied food and nice fresh orange juice. It's ok but overrated!

    3
    « Good location - updates needed »

The staff were beyond friendly - helpful. The hotel is in need of updating. Some updates are in progress. Just a little reminder - if you arrive by train, ask the taxi driver to get you as close as possible to the front door of the hotel. If you depart before the breakfast time begins, ask for a travel package. It includes yogurt and various breakfast items. Breakfast is free with stay. Location of this hotel is good.

    5
    « Central location »

Even though the hotel was being refurbished during my stay, I never felt that this affected my stay in any negative way. The location was very central, the breakfast delicious, the wifi fast, and the room just what you need for a comfortable stay. I would stay again if I had the opportunity!

    3
« Central location but a bit too pricey »

Was in the hotel for a short business stay. The room that I was in was veeery (almost London-like) small but I understand that there are other options. The room was generally clean but needs a bit of a renovation (i.e. shower-head did not work properly). The big selling point is the hotel's central location but this also implies that there could be some noise at nights from surrounding clubs. The lobby was being renovated during my stay but the staff did their best to cope. The restaurant was quite good. Would probably not stay again since the location is not really such a big issue in Ljubljana, which makes the hotel a bit too pricey for my taste...

    5
« Rich breakfast menu, clean rooms »

Perfect choice for a family trip. The rooms were clean. Everyday we had a rich breakfast after then we went on a trip by car to the west of Ljubljana. We made the hotel as a centre point for our 6-day-vacation. We were satisfied with our decision. The hotel is in the centre of the city. It is close.to the restaurants, cafes and shops.

« Well located but no sleep due to hotel party »

Very well located and pleasant hotel (with nice sauna area at no extra charge) but there was a wedding reception on the night we stayed - the music and noise went on until 3am meaning we got little sleep as we were on the second floor. In the morning we found a letter in our room (left there in the evening when we were out) offering the use of single economy rooms if we were disturbed by the party. It's lamentable that the hotel think it acceptable to host such parties and disturb unsuspecting guests and then not even to have the curtesy to tell them in advance. I see there is a previous post about this so it's not a one-off. I have asked for a full refund from the hotel - they told me to contact someone as they couldn't do the refund at reception as I had prepaid but I told them to sort it out and to contact me - so far I have not heard from them. If you book this hotel check that there is no party due there.

« Generally functional but cramped »

This was a beautiful building and extensive work was being done in the lobby/common areas on ground floor, so it's hard to say what this will all look like inside when it's done. Complimentary sparkling wine greeted us in the check in area. Our room was clean and comfortable but really cramped for 2 over 6 foot tall people. Bathroom shower was particularly small. Air conditioning was inadequate in our room, but not unbearable. Very quiet and no outside noises were heard. Breakfast on the 1st floor (complimentary) was extensive and extremely enjoyable. Huge selection of options aimed at American, Italian, Austrian and German guests. Overall a very pleasant hotel with helpful staff, small but generally comfortable rooms. located close to everything we wanted to see and very reasonably priced.

    4
    « Bold Design Hotel »

Important Tip: You CAN drive to the front of the hotel even though street signs indicate otherwise.(Believe your GPS.). If you don't and have to park elsewhere the helpful bellmen will rescue it for you. Our suite was decorated in black and white with a separate seating area but faced a dark interior courtyard. The bath had a great rain shower. One real negative is that you cannot control the thermostat from your room; you have to call reception and have them change the temperature. The included breakfast was nothing special and the serving staff disinterested.

    4
« Excellent city centre hotel »

Work to reception area was in progress but did not disturb us. Sometimes the lifts were a problem, probably due to the work e.g. the main lifts did not stop on Floor 1 where the breakfast room is located. This meant using the side lift which was much in demand meaning a lengthy wait. Nothing too serious though. The breakfasts were extensive, but frequently would run out of something and replenishment was not very swift. Sometimes one of the fruit choices would run out, the English Breakfast tea was sometimes not available and all the rest were awful fruit type teas, and one day - worst of all - the bacon gave out. Good choice for those who like nuts etc. Superb location if on a city break, as the old town where everything happens is literally just down the road. Huge choice of places for coffee, or meals. Most of the cafes stay open till midnight and it seems the city never sleeps. We were on the fourth floor, a very nice room, and with windows closed and air conditioning on no sound at all from anything going on outside and very comfortable bed. Good size bathroom, but one of us could not use the bath even for a shower as there was nothing to hold onto getting in and out of the high sides. We would have liked to have eaten dinner in the hotel most nights, but the menu was very limited and rather pricey and on a stay of nine nights we had to eat out. Taken overall, we would certainly recommend this hotel and the reception staff were very helpful indeed.

« Best bed I ever slept in! »

The hotel has a history dating back to the 16th century! Which makes it more boutique than modern. It's the small things that made me happy. The bed was huge. There was a pillow menu to order the pillow that suits your sleeping style best, relaxing fragrance before sleep,... Felt special, different from other large chains. We paid 118euro/night. Didn't take the 18 euro parking. Saturday pm and Sunday have free parking in the street. Otherwise 70c/hour.

« AVOID. Aggresively oversold old hotel with a grim experience of shady low budget movies from the 60s »

By far the worst hospitality experience I've ever had. The room was old small and smelly of moist and mold, far from pictures of advertised rooms. Parquet had mold stains, curtains and furniture was worn and old. Hotel dates from 1930s and surely leaves old and worn impression. Building needs dire renovation of floors, walls, stairs... After housekeeper acknowledged the bad smell I've been offered a free upgrade to a "suite" Top floor room with no ceiling light (there were many light switches on the wall that did not work since there simply is no ceiling light so you have to walk to the corner lamps to switch them on) Brightest light source in the "suite" were neon lights from the advertisement on the hotel wall. I have asked for immediate check out and looked for accommodation in a different hotel. Front desk staff seemed friendly and apologetic, and has never mentioned a charge after my wish for immediate check out. They even mentioned they will explain to the manager why they checked me out. Four days later my CC got charged from the hotel and I had a worst customer service experience with the sales manager when I disputed the charge. This truly articulated where the overselling and customer ignorant culture comes from. Unexpected and unpleasant #BestWestern experience that has been worsened with aggressive and denying stance of the sales manager that has handled my complaint. Hungry for the profit of the one night stay he declined my request for a refund with an defensive and denying comment that front desk staff "never promised me a refund". Not promising a refund does not equal promising a charge. They never mentioned they will charge for the stay and even told me they will explain to a manager why they checked me out. Charge after four days is indeed a low ball that shows the reality of the Hotel Slon's customer service. Following this experience I will never use the services of Best Western brand #BestWestern #HoteSlon #Poorservice

    « Excellent hotel! »

The hotel is located in a central point and easy to walk from to the old city. Our room was large, cosy, and very clean. Bedding was excellent. Staff were great in helpful advice and much help in all aspects. Free breakfast was excellent.

« Great hotel in great location. »

My husband and u spent 3 nights at the Slon hotel. The hotel is being refurbished at the moment so reception area was not at its best. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Many of the staff apologised for the work. It cannot be helped as hotels need to be modernised. The room was very nice. Bathroom also good with good shower over the bath. Wifi worked well both in room and in dining room. The only complaint u have is that the way the aircon in the room works...blowing cold air upwards from what is the window sill. Fine during the day but not at night as you cannot draw the curtain. We ended up having to try and fold curtain above the blowers to get any cool air into the room. There must be a solution to this. Short curtains might be it! We had breakfast at hotel and this was very good. Apart from the usual cooked breakfast there was plenty of fruit and cereals to mix your own as well as breads, cheeses, cold meats and pastries. There was freshly squeezed juice as well as various coffee varieties from coffee machine and also good percolated variety. Staff in the hotel were all nice. The hotel is located in an area about 150 metres from the 'central circle' and entry to old town across the three bridges. The road outside hotel allow only buses so no parking. Guests with own cars can drive up to hotel but then it will be driven off and parked away from hotel. Taxis are not allowed to drive up to hotel either but park on s side road about 50 metres from hotel so guests have to walk to car. Lovely hotel and we shall stay there again if returning to Ljubljana.

    « Wow. Just Wow »

What can I say? We have just returned from a long weekend for my husbands birthday. Prior to our arrival I had contacted the hotel about our stay to ensure certain things were kept secret and man did they deliver. When we checked in the receptionist wished him Happy Birthday. Our room was fabulous, on the 5th floor with air conditioning and everything we needed. We then decided to go out and explore the city and on our return we found a bottle of fizz, some cake and some fruit with a note from the staff wishing my husband happy birthday. I was so impressed. The following day when we came back from meeting friends (another surprise) we receptionist asked how we were and if my husband was enjoying his birthday weekend. Everything was faultless at the hotel. We didn't dine in the hotel but I have no doubt that would have been amazing also. I cannot thank the staff enough for making our stay so enjoyable. When we return to Ljubljana I would not hesitate to stay here again. Amazing. I cannot say it enough.

« Under renovation but great location and service »

We rented a car in Croatia and drove to Ljubljana. At first, we could not figure out how to get to the hotel since it is located in an area where cars are not permitted--only pedestrians, bicycles, and buses. Finally we asked someone and they told us that hotel guests are allowed to drive on the "buses-only" street and we could pull up to the front of the hotel for check-in. This worked as advertised and a hotel attendant helped us with our luggage and parked the car for us. The hotel is under significant renovation so the entrance and lobby area are all impacted. However, don't let this deter you. The hotel staff was very accommodating and friendly. Other than the lobby area and one elevator being out of service, the renovation was not a major issue. The hotel's location next to the old city is just about the best you can get. We rented bikes for the day from the tourist information center and had a wonderful time in the old city. It's like a smaller version of Paris and virtually everyone speaks English so getting around is easy. Breakfast was included with our room and it was of the highest quality. Our room was spacious and nicely appointed with all the amenities that you'd expect from a western hotel chain like Best Western. All in all, I'd recommend this hotel even with the renovation due to its great location and friendly, helpful staff.

    « Nice hotel »

Nice hotel and great breakfast. There was construction going on at the hotel lobby area but it did not bother us. Only negative experience related to the Saturday night: there was a wedding at the hotel and we could hear the music to our room until 3:30 am.

« Another great visit to Hotel Slon »

We stayed in 2015 when the external renovations were underway and this time, some internal renovations were underway. So what? Did this spoil our 7 night stay. No, not at all. Room immaculately clean. Breakfast as last time, such an excellent choice. Staff courteous and helpful. Great regarding sorting garaging and handover of hire car. Before arrival sorted a taxi to meet us at airport and cost simply added to our bill. Close to centre and hire bikes available just over the road which are great for exploring a little further out. We just love Ljubljana. Thank you again Hotel Slon xx

« Champagne start to a champagne holiday »

OK so this hotel is undergoing a major refurb hence I guess the meet and greet with a glass of bubbly but I can handle that any day - nice touch. Give me a good 4 star Hotel any day over a 5 star ( I am quite capable of making Coffee/Tea in the morning ) Add all these elements together and you will draw the same conclusions Reception - welcoming ( might have mentioned the champagne) car sorted, v pleasent and efficient Position - a couple of minutes from the square, the three bridges and the old town Rooms - smart and v comfortable Breakfast - quite good fun at times due to refurb it was a case of hunt the breakfast room but well worth it because the Buffett is diverse and plentiful Finally for special evening meal highly recommend the in house restaurant Slon 1552 for top class gourmet dining. So yes we have booked for later in the week for another 2 nights before we fly out of this lovely country which says it all really

« Very satisfied withBest Western PREMIER Hotel Slon, Ljubljana, Slovenia »

Best Western PREMIER Hotel Slon, Ljubljana, Slovenia is a very good hotel, it is worth every dollar spent staying at this hotel, it is very well located in the downtown of Ljubljana and the breakfast at the hotel is amazing, the rooms are up to Canadian standards and everyone makes you feel welcomed at the hotel, I would recommend it to everyone who goes to Slovenia on business or leisure

    « Location Location Location »

Through a quirk in our itinerary we actually stayed at this hotel twice during our recent trip to Slovenia. Once for a single night and later for two nights. For the first stay they upgraded us to a king room from the comfort double we reserved during the second stay we stayed in a comfort double. As mentioned in other posts they are remodeling the lobby area and expect the remodeling to go on for a couple months more. The remodeling in no way effected our stay. Once you get beyond the remodeling this is a very good and very conveniently located hotel. The hotel is located adjacent to the triple bridge and old town area and is about a ten minute walk from the bus/train station. The staff was very accommodating happily providing maps, direction and recommendations. The rooms we had were very comfortable and clean. The beds comfortable and the bed linens first rate. The bath towels were very absorbent and large enough to comfortably wrap around yourself. Our room rate included breakfast. You had an option of ordering off the breakfast menu or selecting from a buffet that had pretty much anything you could want for breakfast. Even with the remodeling I wouldn't hesitate to stay at this hotel again in the future. Sent from my iPad

« Very Good Hotel in City Centre »

The hotel is close to city center, a few meters from the main attractions like the triple bridge etc. Lot of restaurants and shopping areas nearby . The room we got was of Decent size with a city view. Breakfast was good with a nice and generous spread. O overall a nice place to stay in Ljubljana.

    3
    « Not good enough »

As our visit was during some renovation/expansion works it wasn't great. Firstly, when we booked it stated 'city views'. Please see photo for our actual view! In the bar the service was very slow, breakfast was cold and often things weren't replenished so you had to wait for teapots and cups etc. One of the plug sockets in our room was coming away from the wall and the bathroom was a bit shabby in places (see pictures). We were also woken up by loud drilling and banging in the morning. Overall we were quite disappointed considering we paid £150 per night. On a more positive note, the bed was very comfortable and the location of the hotel is excellent. I think the main issue is that the description given on booking.com didn't match the reality and it would've been good to know about the building works in advance as it may have influenced our decision when booking.

    « Center of Ljubljana »

Great location, right in the very center of Ljubljana. Quick access to every attractive place this city have to offer. Breakfast was delicious and diverse. Professional and dedicated staff. Our room was quite small for 2+1. Hotel management didn't miss any chance to collect these extra euros: 10 eu elephant toy, top mini bar, bottom mini bar...

    4
    « A flawless four star hotel »

Excellent location, a few meters from the main attractions. Friendly staff, quick to help. There was a bit of scaffolding there during my Nice spa, readily available. Great breakfast. My room was small, no view, bed mattress too soft for my comfort. But everything was clean, complimentary coffee station, free powerful WiFi, rich cable TV, bath robe,

    4
« Close to all attractions »

This is a comfortable hotel close to all touristic attractions. Beds are good, breakfast perfect, staff helpful. Two negative points- noisy renovation and main street, even in the night, and quite small rooms (like in London hotels), but price is very reasonable. Note wrong email in a hotel visiting cards: it starts with "reception".

    3
« Nice hotel but average experience »

I stayed at hotel Slon in August 2016. They are renovating the lobby area which detracts from the overall experience. My room was on 4th floor with dismal courtyard view and very close to the ventilation / aircon gear on a roof close by. The noise was somewhat annoying. I'm sure most rooms are not disturbed in the same way. A really annoying aspect of the stay was elevator capacity which is under dimensioned. My knees hurt when walking down stairs, otherwise I'd have walked to save time and aggravation. On the upside, the hotel is very centrally located and the room standard is good with relatively spacious rooms and very nice bathrooms. And Ljubljana is a delightful city which more than compensated for the hotel experience.

    4
« Good location, very helpful staff, room a bit small but enough space to move around in »

The hotel is in a good location in the center of the city. While my room (Room 331) was small, it was big enough to move around in. It had a TV, minibar, good Wi-Fi connection, and power socket near the bed. The bathroom had a shower (no bath) and hairdryer. There is also a convenient full-length mirror. Minor quibble: the room had no shelf on which to store a bag and the three-legged desk I used instead was a bit wobbly. The staff here are super helpful. They helped me sort out a private day trip outside the city at short notice. A nice touch is the information card on your bed when you arrive showing the weather forecast for tomorrow.

    5
« Great location and all the facilities needed »

Stayed for two nights in a corner room which had a nice balcony over a quiet side street. Room not huge but more than enough for me and most importantly clean. Had all the necessary features including drinks making facilities, cable TV, good hairdryer and decent sized safe. Also had complementary bottles of water which was useful when going out to explore the city in hot weather. Free Wi-Fi was good - connection stable enough to check e-mails, news sites etc. Breakfasts were really good - lots of choice and good quality food and coffee. Had dinner in the restaurant which was also really nice. Staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel location is perfect for exploring the city - literally 5 minutes walk to the river. Not sure about value as this was part of a group tour but the hotel offered all the facilities and features required and I would consider staying again if I return to Ljubljana.

    4
    « great location »

Two nights. Great room and lovely staff - only too willing to be helpful. The big issue would be the renovations at the hotel - messy, noisy and sometimes confusing in the lobby/reception areas and the first floor.

« Best location in Ljubjlana »

Great location right in the heart of the old town, within walking distance of the river and all the main Tourist attractions. Room was small but well appointed with everything necessary and very comfortable beds. Only dissapointment was the view from our room into the untidy back yard. Buffet breakfast was excellent and staff friendly and helpful. There is a shuttle from the airport (12 euro), which is very convenient. Ljubljana is a beautiful, clean and well organised City with lots of interesting historic sites, nice restaurants and very friendly people. Would recommend the weekly food ( restaurant) market on a friday evening in the centre of town

    « KonramaN »

Friendly hotel. Nice breakfast. Ljubljana is a small city, with smaller old town. The hotel is very well located and it did make all the difference to get around and enjoy my stay at the city. Go for it!

    3
    « Decent »

Stayed there for a night in July. The standard double room is small, reminded me of rooms in Tokyo hotels - two people can bearly fit in a room. Bathroom is even smaller. We got a room on a noisy road, so we had to keep the windows shut. Ok, but not what I expected - stayed in Central Hotel in Ljubljana in May, which is also a 4 star hotel, and I preffer it.

    3
    « short stay »

Hotel has very good location exactly in the centre of the city. Price is corresponding with location but not with equipment of the rooms (very old but clean). Service is good and very friendly. Breakfasts are very nice

« Love is in the air! »

After traveling through many countries in Eastern Europe, the hotel Slon is my absolutely favorite. The rooms were spacious and high end, the staff was very hospitable and the food was delicious. The hotel is centrally located in the heart of Ljubljana and easy to find. They put a stuffed elephant in each room, something you can purchase. Three years after my stay I had misplaced mine. The hotel sent a brand new elephant to my home in the US, Florida at no charge. I will absolutely be going back and staying here.

« Perfectly located and comfortable hotel to visit the historic Ljubljana »

This large and modern international Best Western hotel is perfectly located to visit the historic center of Ljubljana: no need for a car, the hotel offers secured valet parking for a reasonable fee (18 euros/day). Rooms are comfortable (Superior Deluxe are worth the extra expense vs Comfort Rooms), sauna and gym available on site. Really impressive breakfast, with a huge variety (world record level) of good fresh products to suit about any taste. Our room on the inner court was a bit noisy at night (rumble from air conditioning units), this should be improved at some point.

    4
« Central location, but overpriced »

The hotel is located centrally, in a road with limited traffic. I was given a quiet room in the 5th floor (If I didn't see the reception I wouldn't even understand there was a renovation going on). The room was extremely clean room every day, the wi-fi was very fast and had a great selection of English-speaking TV channels. Breakfast was rich and with many choices. They also offer a comfortable and cheap shuttle service to/from the the airport My single economy room was very small, there was not even place for my luggage so I had to place in on the floor. The bathroom itself was large, but the shower cabin was very small. The bed mattress and pillows were too soft for my liking. Although the room was cleaned thoroughly every day, some days it took too long for the cleaning to be over (even up to 14:30)

    3
    « Average standards hotel »

Hotel slon is a good hotel as it is centrally located very close to the center of Ljubljana. Hotel had a medium size lubby and huge dining room for breakfast which was God and diversified. The room was of a small size however acceptable beeing occupied by a single person. The hotel also gave me. 2 way taxi coupons going to the shopping center btc and return . Rather than that I don't have much to say except probably to add that the staff were informative and helpful.

    4
« Good location, nice buffet breakfast »

We had two rooms. One had been renovated as was quite modern. The other a bit tired and due for a makeover. So ask for one of the renovated ones! Staff here were very helpful and professional. We enjoyed the varied buffet breakfast and its only a very short walk to the main part of town. Good value hotel.

« Great city centre hotel »

Spent 5 nights at this hotel in July 2016. The reason I went was to go to a football match but stayed for 5 days in this lovely city. The hotel location couldn't be bettered as in the city centre near (within 3 minutes walk) of the three bridges and in sight and walking distance of the castle. City was very friendly. The room was clean with service everyday which included new towels. The shower was excellent. The bed was comply and the air conditioning was very welcoming. I had booked breakfast which was self service with almost anything you wanted. As much as you wanTed as well. Would recommend this quality hotel.

« Spacious and luxurious in superb location »

This hotel is in a superb central location, right in the city centre pedestrian zone. It's just a few minutes walk from all of the main attractions. Our room was very large and immaculately clean. Breakfast was very good. Service was friendly. Nice bar and restaurant. Recommended.

    « Good location, recommended »

This is a great location and really friendly hotel. The staff are always on hand to help and help you. Location is great, right by all the shops, bars etc and only 25 mins from the airport. Rooms are not huge but adequate and clean with good mini bar etc. Definitely worth the stay

    « Highly recommended »

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights and checked out this morning, This is a great hotel in the heart of Ljubljana, good location and only a 5 minute walk to three bridges where you can find plenty of bars and restaurants by the river. The room was quite small but the bed was very comfortable. The staff on reception were friendly. I cannot say anything negative about this hotel (which is unusual for me). The breakfast was mediocre but I have had worse and I would say it is pretty standard. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel, the staff on reception were friendly and I cannot say anything negative about my experience.

    3
    « Renovations spoil enjoyment »

This hotel is in a great location but with the renovations going on it is not really a great place to stay right now There is no bar and no lounge or seating areas so people have nowhere to go when waiting for the rooms and nowhere to sit and relax before or after visits to the centre or in the evening The rooms are well equipped but the beds are a little soft and the pillows are as well even with the pillow menu If there are two of you you must go for the superior room as the comfort room is only big enough for one really Staff are helpful and friendly , we had to change rooms on arrival as first room was very much in need of renewal The bathrooms are airy and very well laid out this is the best feature of the hotel The breakfast is okay at best plenty of choice but not much that is healthy All in all the location makes this a good choice once the works are completed but not now

    5
    « Great hotel »

One of the best hotels I have ever been to. Top professional service. Great breakfast. Room was very spacious with complimentary water. All toiletries are Loocitan which shows the high level of the hotel. Nice pillow menu and amazing beds Walking distance to all ljubliana sites. Valet parking 18 euro per night Bottom line top star hotel

    4
« Very nice and friendly hotel in perfect location »

We stayed here in the hight of the summer season and despite this service was very good. Valet parking for Eur 18 per 24 hours, good if not excellent breakfast, spacious rooms with good bathrooms and some nice perks like chocolate, dressing gown and a room umbrella (!). Good beds and a lot of TV channels. Perfect location close to the old town, which is very beautiful and lovely to walk around in for a day. You have to try the Slovenian ice cream, innovative tastes and super good!

    5
    « Great hotel! »

It is a great hotel located near old city center. The breakfast was very good. The room was renovated and with all falicities: l'occitane products in the bathroom, coffee machine and complimentary water. We had a great time in Ljubljana! We will be back!

    4
« Would stay here again. »

The hotel was undergoing some improvements to the reception area which I am sure will only enhance this very pleasant hotel. The staff were delightful, the breakfast way better than most and the rooms as you would expect from this type of hotel. The location is excellent for the river side and Tivoli Gardens. There is also a pub next door which is great for that late night cap before bed.

« Best Hotel breakfast ever!!! »

Very nice! Very pleasant and helpful staff! Without a doubt the best breakfast ever! So much choice and deliciously fresh! Beds are comfy - rooms are a good size. Worth trying the Thai massage - highly recommend it. I shall definitely come back again!

« High class, lower part under renovation »

Very nice hotel indeed, the location is superb! Lower floow was under reconstruction, so it was a bit disappointing. My room was quite small, but ok. The only negative thing for me was that I was able to hear quite a bit noise from other rooms, thin walls? Breakfast was a plus!

    « Really good »

Nice staff. Really great location. Just walk out of the hotel and you are on the 3 bridges lane. Glass of champagne when entering the hotel. Great running location in the park nearby. Unfortunatelly poor gym in the hotel. Good beauty stuff in bath.

    4
« Great location in the heart of Ljubljana »

We chose this hotel in the heart of Ljubljiana even though we understood that the hotel is going through a big refurbishment and we were not disappointed. Location was fantastic and minutes walk to everything you need to see and the bar in the restaurant is a great place for a few drinks to start or end the evening. Staff were very polite and the rooms were a decent size. Breakfast was included in our package and very worth ensuring that you start the day with this. Overall the impact of the refurbishment was limited to the reception area where you really only go in or out so no big deal. Would certainly recommend for a long weekend stay.

    5
    « Very helpful n pleasant Staff »

From my first minute in this hotel I knew my stay is really worth it as my check in was so smooth n received an upgraded room .. Staff are very helpful n pleasant which is a great behavior you find every where in Slovenia .. Location wise I very much recommend this hotel.

« The place to stay in Ljublana »

This was rumored to be one of the best hotels in Ljublana, and lived up to its reputation. Extremely high Quality and class through and through. THis should have been a five star hotel. Located 30 meters from the old city center, where all the good stuff are, it is basically in the old town it self. Very polite and friendly staff who greated us and brought our luggage to the room. Good, plentyfull and tasty breakfast. Only complaint is we forgot som clothes in our room when leaving. When we returned for them after an hour, the room was occupied by new guests and the staff swore the clothes had not been found. But all thing considered, you can safly come here. Enjoy.

« Will be excellent when refurb complete »

Stayed for five nights in reburbished area of hotel (superb), toured wonderful Slovenia then returned for final 2 nights and stayed in non-refurbished part - not quite so good. Overall staff excellent and friendly, breakfasts superb and location unbeatable. Hotel doing its best to make refurbishment process as painless as possible for guests. Well on the way to being a truly excellent hotel.

« Hotel Slon is the place to stay »

I can't speak highly enough about Hotel Slon. It is centrally located in Ljubljana, the hotel staff is friendly and goes out of their way to be helpful. They are very enthusiastic about Slovenia and are full of personal insights into places to see and places to eat. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay.

« Excellent if you stay at Superior Suites ... »

Very disapointed with my room requested for an upgrading and after 60 Euros extra got an excellent renovated suite; 3 times bigger than my original room. Really amazing and with all features and luxury you could expect. Service at Hotel is quite good and Breakfast is of good level, not exceptional. Hotel location is perfect; just 20 meters from main square...

    « Excellent hotel »

Stayed with family July 2016 Location: Excellent location about 2 minute walk to Old Town and river (Triple Bridge). Plenty of amenities- department store opposite with supermarket in its basement, plenty of restaurants, close to all the main sight of the city. Hotel: Surprised on arrival to find that the hotel was undergoing renovations! The lounge is very bare. This was not mentioned anywhere on booking.com where we booked or the hotel website! The hotel did post apologies at the front desk and offered complimentary water and sparkling wine at reception. Aside from that, Hotel Slon restaurant looked beautiful- although we didn't dine there for dinner the menu looked good. When we enquired re shopping centres of the city- we were informed that for the summer promotion- The hotel ran a promotion with City Park Shopping Centre where they gave two coupons for complimentary travel with Laguna Taxi (one of the older and more reputable taxi firms of the city- 1 coupon to get there, 1 coupon to return. journey took around 10 minutes by car one way) You need to inform the staff when you wish to go- they will call taxi and on return either you can telephone taxi directly (phone number on coupon- they spoke good English when I called) or I was told taht you could go to the information desk at the shopping centre and staff there will request taxi for you.) Staff: All very friendly and helpful. They kindly facilitated the trip to City Park shopping centre :) which had plenty of shops and good selection of restaurants including a food hall. Room: We requested a quiet room when we booked and were delighted to be allocated a room on the 5th floor which had its own little branch of corridor. It was indeed super quiet (the quietest room I've ever stayed) and couldn't hear any noise anywhere! It was clean and modern. Plenty of plug points. Free wifi throughout with good connection. The bed and duvet was very comfortable. The hotel offered very thoughtful service including a pillow menu, foam ear plugs, chocolates on both evenings we stayed with a weather card for the next day! (wow!), slippers (bonus!), electric kettle with tea/coffee facilities (a must for me but rare to find for some reason in many European cities), a large complimentary umberella for rent in the cupboard during your stay (10 euro if you wanted to buy it- impressive item and very considerate- came in very useful with the rain we experienced). Room also had a safe, a fluffy dressing gown (which you could purchase if wished) and a fluffy elephant on the table (which could be purchased for 10 euros). Food: we booked breakfast during our stay. Good selection of hot and cold items- including bacon, sausage, eggs, pancakes, grilled vegetables, salads, cereals, nuts, museli, yoghurt, bread, pastries, fresh fruit (pineapple, kiwi, strawberry, melon), juices, tea/coffee. There were different items for the two days we were there- Saturday was def better for choices- There was a fresh orange juice squeezer put out on the Saturday (cut your own orange into two- 4 halves = 1 cup of juice) but wasn't there the next day. :( There was also salmon slice on toast, 4-5 pastry choices on the saturday but neither were there on sunday :( One thing to mention is that certain taxis/transport services can't seem to access the front (Slovenska Cesta) for some reason-this was confusing as it seemed fairly inconsistent with some taxis (including the vehicle I travelled in on arrival to the hotel) able to drop guests off at the front door but others (even those from the same firm) unable to do so- one driver mentioned something re special permit so you may have to do a short walk from the next street if you're dropped off there. Overall the stay was thoroughly enjoyable, highlighted by the thoughtful and considerate touches. Big thank you to all the staff :) I would whole heartedly recommend this establishment to anyone visiting the city.

« Very Close to everything »

This hotel is walking distant to restaurants, bars, icecream parlours, and tourist spots in Ljubljana plus it's near SPAR. They have a small gym and sauna if you just want a quick exercise. It's not busy at all. The aircon could have been improved in the room but everything else is clean and comfortable. I would recommend their Egg's Benedict for breakfast! Be warned as you have to wait 20 minutes for it but you can help yourself with the continental breakfast and freshly made orange juice.

    4
« Old, but well kept hotel with excellent hospitality »

The Slon Hotel has an excellent location in the city center of Ljubljana. The hotel is old, currently under renovation (the lobby), but well kept, very clean and with lots of tiny symbols of hospitality. The reception desk staff is absolutely ready to go the extra mile.

  • 2
« Smelly rooms. Good location »

The hotel is outdated. They are renovating but they should have done that long ago. Maybe they could give a discounted fare while under renovation to compensate. Bad/dated ventilation gives the rooms a moldy smell. Had to change rooms twice because of that. The staff is friendly and helpful but I wouldn't stay here again.

    4
« A very good hotel in a central location »

The location . Room and amenities were a definite plus, the renovation was a killer. It's very centrally located . The hotel team couldn't do enough. Still but till he renovation is over don't even bother.

« Probably the best Best Western in the world. »

I did not plan to stay here but a friend convinced me. "It is not a typical Best Western." They were right. A large hotel just steps from the Old Town, the location is great. The hotel is undergoing lobby and room renovations. My business class room was completely remodeled and modern. Strong wi fi and strong air conditioning. Two large flat screen TVs. Sound proof Windows so the room was very quiet. L'Occitane amenities. Large and comprehensive breakfast buffet. Very helpful staff. The renovations are way beyond a typical Best Western, I wonder if there will be a name change soon. Definitely worth booking if you can get a renovated room.

    3
« Good location - tiny rooms and baths »

We walked with our luggage from the train station and the location is convenient to the historic area and river promenade. The breakfast buffet is good and ample. But the double bed seemed smaller than international standard, the room was so small it was hard to maneuver around the bed and the shower/bathroom was tiny.

    5
« Perfect central location in a beautiful city - book the shuttle bus though! »

Firstly, if you've never been to Slovenia, it is truly stunning, and Ljubljana is a beautiful city - certainly the old city centre. I was lucky enough to visit in Autumn, Winter and Spring and traveled east, way up into the hills. The changing scenery in each season was amazing. My advice is to pre-book the shuttle bus from the airport, as this will save a small fortune (maybe 15 Euros on the shuttle vs about 50 euros in a taxi). This can be done by contacting the hotel directly. Also, if you have spare time make sure you see as much of the central city as possible - the climb up to the castle is certainly worth it for the magnificent views over the city and towards the mountains. The hotel is perfectly located about a 3 minute walk from the 'Triple Bridge'. If you fancy paying a bit extra for food, the hotel restaurant is perfectly good, but there are so many eateries a short walk away, it's a shame not to at least check your options. First impressions are excellent and the staff are very professional, friendly and helpful. Rooms are great and the beds provide excellent sleep quality. They also provide robes should you wish to visit the spa. The spa is fairly minimal but perfectly adequate - and the gym could be described pretty similarly. There was plenty of choice for the breakfast, to cover all tastes. There's nothing I can really pick to fault this hotel, so 5 stars it is. I have been on more than one occasion and recommended it to colleagues, with no complaints from them either.

    4
« Great location and amenities but for the noise of building »

As others have said the location is ideal, the hotel itself is definitely up to standard but they are renovating. Whilst they waited until 8am to start work, on Wimbledon men's final afternoon they were using a hammer drill that made it impossible to hear the TV. After two calls to reception we were told it would end in 15 minutes. It did and luckily Andy Murray won. It should be mandatory that hotels advise when they are renovating so you can decide if you want to stay. Renovations have to happen but you should be given the choice.

    3
    « Under renovation... »

When we walked in the hotel Slon Lobby I was surprised to see construction and workers. Its true the hotel could need a little upgrade but it was not clerly stated on booking.com. The staff was extremely helpful with the car, luggage and we received a nice upgrade. The hotel is also nicely located, close to all attractions, shops and restaurant. The beds were very comfortable. Unfortunately, the work continues even on saturday mornings which was not great... If you book at the hotel, request a high floor. They provide hear plugs but it cannot help for the vibrations... I believe the hotel will look very nice once the construction is over, I will probably go back. The dog was nicely welcomed.

« Very good city centre hotel »

If you want to stay somewhere comfortable and close to the old town in Llubjana then the Hotel Slon is a good bet. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the rooms very comfortable. The hotel offers a shuttle service to the airport which very convenient. The breakfast is exceptional. The only reason for not giving it a five star was the view from our window, which looked onto a delivery yard but other than that, it was great and very convenient. I'd stay here again.

« Hotel Slon: elephantine by neither name nor nature. »

There's lots going for the Hotel Slon: it's central location in Ljubljiana; its friendly and attentive staff who can't do enough to help you when things don't go according to plan; and its name, which translates as Hotel Elephant and is manifested as a trail of wire-frame elephants throughout the decor. It's very funny, although clearly they don't have the same memory capacity as their counterpart on the African savannahs. What the hotel forgets to tell you when you book is that they are at the start of a 5 year renovation programme which entails builders throwing scaffolding around all day long outside from 7am on a Saturday morning, as well as during normal working hours during the week. This makes it impossible to sleep through with any degree of comfort and I was left feeling tired and irritable over the 24 hours I stayed there. The staff were very sympathetic and offered me a bottle of cava which I thought would at least be a way of getting to sleep quickly. But I didn't fancy the subsequent hangover so declined the kind offer. I would have preferred a change of room or refund but neither of these were forthcoming. So if you stay at the Slon - and there's lots of good reasons to do so - just make sure you get a quiet room or ask for the cava before you arrive. It'll help you forget the crash bang wallop of scaffolding falling apart and drills drilling their way into your sanity which will accompany your stay.

« Fab hotel in perfect location for the city »

This hotel is beautifully decorated and the amenities are of the highest standard - very spacious room and bathroom, huge bed, fabulous linen sheets and very effective air conditioning. Really exceptional breakfast in lovely room. Very efficient valet parking service, which makes things so much easier when you in the middle of a city. Great location for a few minutes walk to all the major city attractions - we were lucky to have had a food fair in the marketplace, which was serving fantastic foods from many local restaurants.... great ice cream too!!!

our first visit to Ljubljana was made better by the fine service and the people at the Hotel Slon...they were very busy and in the middle of some construction, but they made our visit very comfortable

« Excellent location, great food. »

I always stay there when I visit Ljubljana. It is located in the main center, walking distance to everything you need. Great rooms, polite stuff, and very clean! Breakfast is one of the best so far, lots of different food and drinks.

    « Good to Satisfactory »

We visited the hotel for business in May 2016. The hotel is perfectly located in the city with very easy walking around. The rooms are good and clean but rather small. The breakfast was very very good with many options and very fresh. Would definitely suggest.

« Great location. Okay hotel. »

You can't beat the location. You're a block from the main square and the Triple Bridge. Hotel was going through some much needed renovations. Hotel lobby staff was not overly welcoming. However, the gentlemen outside who took care of our car and our bags were most helpful and quite friendly. Rooms are a bit outdated bit comfortable. Air conditioning does not go as cold as I prefer at night. Breakfast was very nice and included. I would stay here again just for the amazing location.

    3
    « Small room »

I am little bit dissapointed... We booked Economy double room ( price was 95 euros) but size is like for single. No parking availible. Good thing is location, in the midle of down town. Room is clean, air condition , TV, mini-bar etc. and that's it.

    « European Train Trip »

Arrived in Ljubljana after a short train journey,(by comparison, around 14:00. Short fifteen minute walk to the hotel through a safe business district. Reception area and bar undergoing refit, however, reception staff very courteous. I was asked if I was travelling alone and would I mind if I was allocated an economy room, the hotel was very busy with a large seminar, on the proviso that the following night I was upgraded to a suite. I agreed and complimentary champagne and chocolates were sent to my room. Although the bar is closed I was offered the opportunity to take a drink in the restaurant should I wish. The economy room was quite small but well appointed with a mini bar, desk and the bathroom was more than adequate for a solo traveller. Complete with the Best Western elephant!!! Wandering around the town that afternoon was a delight, the hotel is perfectly situated for the centre, The Three Bridges, shops, museums, the market, the canal, cafes and restaurants. Ljubljana is clean, very friendly and I urge you to visit. Excellent breakfast, with cereals, fruit, pastries and a cooked selection and off out for the day. On the funicular railway to Ljubljana Castle where there are fantastic views across the city. Coffee shop and restaurant swell as gift shops make the a must do when in Ljubljana. I returned to the hotel later that evening having sampled the local hospitality and to my delight found that I had indeed been upgraded to a corner suite with a balcony. Very large lounge area, large flat screen TV, mini bar, desk, sofas, armchairs, coffee table very large bedroom with King Size bed and robe, slippers, safe etc. Booked a full Thai body massage in the health club via reception. Very professional service from a talented Thai masseur at around 70€. Early departure the following morning with a swift and courteous check out. This is a fantastic hotel in a fantastic city!!

« Great location, great service »

Travelled to Ljubljana for the first time. After getting picked up at the airport by the hotel, we arrived outside the hotel about 30 mins later. The hotel is in a great location right in the city center, with walking distance to Old town, shops and the bus station. Upon arrival we were greated with a complimentary glass of local bubbly before check in as an apology for the inconvenience of renovations at the hotel. This at first filled us with dread, thinking there would be disturbances while work was being performed. But to be honest. the rooms are fairly insulated and we barely noticed that there was work going on at all. The staff at the hotel were really service minded, and no request seemed to big or small. Service was always provided with a smile :-). If you are a breakfast person, this hotel is for sure for you. The breakfast not only lasted until a very amicable hour (11 am), it has a great selection of hot and cold dishes, along with a la carte. Also a wide variety of teas and coffee.. And again, the staff working in the dining area provided a great service. Besides clean rooms, great location and fantastic breakfast, the hotel has a small spa and gym area. The spa is very small, more a massage room.. But the massages were great. The gym was also very small. However it contains a lot of modern Technogym equipment and a good selection of free weights. Certainly sufficient for purpose. Overall, I would say: Staff-keep up the good work, your service made a difference. And, if you are looking for a good hotel in the centre, this would certainly be one to consider. I would visit again

    « comfy »

very nice hotel comfy and proper. They had a little construction going on in the lobby we were not disturbed. Had a great view to the castle but a little noise from the central ventilation system. great water preassure ;)

    « Wonderful stay »

The hotel is currently undergoing renovation but, based on our experiences during the renovations, I wonder why because it was terrific as is! We had a lovely dinner at the hotel restaurant; the location nof the place is unbeatable; the staff go out of their way to be helpful and friendly, the room we had was incredibly quiet and well appointed, and the breakfast was out of this world.

    « Very comfortable »

I stayed here for the first time recently and found it clean and comfortable. On the plus side My second floor room was well equipped and the bed comfortable. Breakfast was good and I found all the staff helpful. I am afraid I do speak an Slovenian and everyone's English was good which was useful for a British visitor. The best thing is the location which is great and the city is charming indeed. On the minus side my room had some lights not working which I'm surprised has not been picked up; and when I returned later in the day for my luggage before flying out it was pretty difficult to change. I had to go up to the sauna with my case which was a bit bothersome and uncomfortable. But these are picky points and I would stay there again.

« A pleasant surprise in Ljubijana, Sloverna. »

We had a wonderful experience at this hotel in Ljubljana. It was in the city center which is a pedestrian walkway. It was so nice to walk to town, less than five minutes for dinner or dine at the hotel which has a great menu and the service is exceptional. All in the hotel speak English so there is no problems with communication.

    5
    « Excellent location »

Really nice hotel within a minute's walk of the centre of town. Very modern, clean rooms, excellent breakfast, helpful staff. It rained the whole time so the fact that they provided umbrellas in the room was an added bonus!

    4
« Very nice hotel well located downtown »

After some works, now nice refurbished rooms, modern and well equipped. Free internet. Large choice at the breakfast (from 06h00 to 11h00) Sauna, steam-room and relax room (from 15h00 to 22h00) above the gym. The staff speak a good english and always ready to help and serve you. I will recommend that hotel for sort or long stay.

    4
« Good value in city centre hotel »

Hotel centrally located near all the major attractions. I had a single room which was small, but clean and comfortable, and well supplied with toiletries etc. More than adequate for my needs. Staff were very pleasant and helpful, with the check-in desk worthy of particular praise. Breakfast which is self service, had good variety and is served every day until 11 am. Hotel also provides a minibus transfer to Ljubljana airport for €9, booked through reception.

    5
    « Very Central »

Very good hotel , bed and pillows very comfortable.staff very friendly, good position easy to walk anywhere in the old town. Good breakfast would recommend. The hotel provided slippers and robes as well as use of umbrellas, which we needed as it rained almost continually whilst we were there.

    5
« A very lovely hotel situated on a good location. »

Situated at the edge of the old town, Hotel Slon gives a good location for exploring the old town and going forward to the park. The staff is every helpful even during the time I was still in the Philippines. The concierge helped me find the best train back ti Vienna and was very helpful in our travel. The breakfast buffet was also great and so are the rooms. We stayed in a triple and the bed was comfortable. I loved my stay in Slon, we even bought the stuffed elephant doll in the room.

    5
« In the HEART of Ljubljana »

My room was older with authentic wood floors. It was still very clean and comfortable. Staff went out of their way to help us out with the rental car and parking. They answered all of my email prior to arrival and were smiling and friendly throughout our stay. Breakfast buffet was delicious! Literally one minute walking from the heart of Ljubljana: the Tromostovje and the Franciscan church. McDonald's right around the corner! Great value for money.

    3
« Adequate hotel; lovely city »

The Slon hotel is perfectly adequate but lacks that feeling of comfort or welcome . We had a standard room which again was adequate, but we found it a little small. A couple of times we had to chase up services for tea, milk, bathroom toiletries. There was no separate bar and no lobby as such to sit and watch the world go by. The staff were polite and efficient but lacked the personal touch. We thought the restaurant was expensive ,but Ljubljana is not a cheap city to dine in;we were paying on average £45-50 for a meal for two,not including wine but perhaps a beer . Compared to cities that do not have the Euro this is a lot dearer. Breakfast is buffet style and we don't like this . Only one inefficient toaster! The cooked food did not seem very appetising to me,a bit greasy and coldish. If you like European breakfasts you will most probably like it. The location of the hotel is excellent ; all the best parts of the city are a short walk or the city provides a free electric buggy service that will call at the hotel or wherever and transport you to where you want to go in the centre. The castle is a very nice way to spend a couple of hours. There are museums,a zoo a short bus ride away, theatre and of course the riverside cafes and restaurants . The food is well presented and skilfully cooked and service is great but as I say, not exactly cheap. The food by and large did not appeal to us but we have very conservative taste. Having said that we had a good pasta dish and a very nice goulash. Not to be missed is Lake Bled. This is absolutely stunning. The lake is crystal clear, the backdrop is the snow capped Alps. In the little village are plenty of cafes for a leisurely break. Excursions to Bled are available but we took the bus which was cheap and comfortable. It is best to book the journey in advance; it takes about 1.5 hours to get there through lovely countryside. Ljubljana is one of the cleanest, quietest ,loveliest cities we have visited; traffic is actually not allowed in the city but watch out for cyclists ,they are everywhere. Also a short trip down the river on the pleasure boats is relaxing. We got the impression that not many British go to Ljubljana ,might be wrong, but I think that it will definitely catch on once it's beauty becomes more well known . We had a lovely peaceful and relaxing time and will go again but to a different hotel.

« Great location, friendly staff »

I stayed for 3 nights with my husband. The staff was truly helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great, so many things to choose from. The hotel is very centraly located and lots to see and do close by.

« Great location, cosy rooms »

The hotel is indeed very well positionned in the city center. The rooms are very clean, the furniture is outdated, first time I entered the room I felt like going back in my childhood room at my parents. However, in the end that was a small detail, I appreciated more the services, the cleaning, the small items provided in time and detail (including the weather forecast, the good night chocolates and the ear plugs). The breakfast was very good and I suppose the restaurant is on the same line. I would recommend this hotel, the quality offerd in the given price is a very good report!

    3
« Good location but average »

The hotel is located at the city centre and is convenient to walk to many city center attractions. The check in and out speed is efficient. The free WiFi increases the satisfaction. The room was outdated and not so fresh due to the smell of the carpet or no chance for fresh air due to lack of windows opening to outside. The amenities were enough and room was well prepared also for our child. It would be better to ask for valet parking with a cost of euro18/day otherwise you would need to turn around with a risk of penalty due to the city center traffic regulations. The breakfast was enough for several tastes. The staff is friendly and helpful for all questions. I suggest for all purposes after the construction finishes.

    « Best stay ever »

Stayed at Hotel Slon for one night in May. Room, service, breakfast, the whole package was simply exceptional. Big, well-equipped room in great condition and really really clean, huge bathroom with bath tub, shower and window view into the room itself. The manager ?eljko Vrhovac provided us with service that went above and beyond. We were surprised by a bottle of sparkling wine arriving back at our room after touring the city. Breakfast offers a vast choice, all of it small bites of heaven. Service there exceptional again. Staying at Hotel Slon is 100% recommendable, my best hotel experience so far.

    4
    « Central hotel »

The location is nice , very close to many places around , good for business , clean and acceptable for the middle class people. However prices increased dramatically due to events in the city. Good restaurant and quite many bars around so you won't be bored

    4
« Great location; good rooms »

We stayed for four nights at the beginning of May. The hotel is very convenient for everything that Ljuljana has to offer. Staff were helpful and courteous. We had a room on the 5th floor facing the street. You can still hear some noise through the new insulation but not enough to be a serious problem. The room has plenty of space and storage and a large bathroom with all the usual amenities (shower over good sized bath). Breakfast was just about OK for a hotel of this standard/cost. Internet works OK in the rooms. Overall, I think it was a bit on the expensive side - possibly because costs rise in the week, presumably for business customers.

    3
    « Hotel Slon »

Convenient location close to town centre. Easy walk to all the main sights of Ljubljana. Staff are friendly and helpful. Good buffet selection for breakfast. Our room was clean but tired, however renovations are in progress which should help.

    3
    « Location, location, location »

Very well located hotel, close to Triple Bridge, old town and the river. Central with easy access to all the tourist spots. The hotel is currently undergoing renovation, which the rooms certainly need. It is clean and tidy, but the rooms are certainly dated. Wi fi works well and breakfast was well appointed, but the rooms are in need of updating.

    3
« Excellent position but dated bathroom & poor breakfast lets it down »

In addition to the title above the rooms are spacious & the bed large & comfy with the optional turn down service too. Internet isn't terrible nor great either but it works. Staff are really helpful & mean well. I'd stay here again if only for the location as it's very close to the 'market area' for drinking & eating out, well positioned for shopping & a 3/4 min walk down to the very picturesque river area.

    4
« Right in the middle »

100 metres from the Triplebridge, this is very central. Value for money. Economy room is great for a single occupant, two can easily fit if travelling with small suitcases. Ameneties include the usual soaps and creams (containing perfume), vanity kits, ear plugs and coffee/tea maker. Bedding is a duvet/comforter, pillows come in four different types of firmness. Quality linen. Firm bed. Hardwood-floor. Plentyful breakfast, however, bread is so-so.

    5
« Great location, friendly staff »

The hotel has a really excellent location, near to everything. Rooms are renovated and nice. The staff was extremely helpful, recommended many things to visit. The sauna is also very nice and calm, after a walking day nice to relax. The wifi worked everywhere well. It was a bit cold in the huge breakfast room and in the room itselfs too and we were not able to regulate the heating. The street of the hotel is basically limited for busses but hotelguest can drive in as well. We didnt know it so when we arrived we had some troubles to come to the hotel. All together a very good choice for its price.

« Great rooms, great location »

We stayed at Best Western during our trip to Slovenia. I was almost put off by the name...in the states, we thing of Best Western as nice enough, but not luxury. Not the case here...this hotel is very nice, with big, comfortable rooms and excellent service. I thought the stuffed elephant they put in the room in honor of the hotel's name was adorable and I appreciated the bit of hotel history on the elephant's tag. And the location is excellent...right around the corner is the old city with all you'd want to see in walking distance. Definitely a good choice.

    4
    « Old lady »

Hotel Slon is centrally located and probably has the best location among all Ljubljana's hotels. It's interior is nice, but you can clearly notice it is a bit dated. It seems that they are trying to keep it up to date, but that is not the same as a complete overhaul. Definitely recommended if you want to be in the center of Ljubljana.

    4
« Spacious with good service! »

Hotel is centrally located, just the corner of the street with major stores like the mueller, H&M and minutes walk to the pink church. The hotel provides nice robes, pillow menu, a nice gym, sauna and Thai massage. Massage is ok as compared to actual Thai massage but sauna and gym are of standards. Breakfast spread is good and the service team provides dedicated service. Downside would be the room is quite aged. You can notice it from the flooring, items in the room, shower area etc.

    5
« Long weekend in Ljubljana »

Room was quite small, but enough spacious for one person. Breakfast was excellent and was served almost until lunch time. The personnel was very nice and helpful and You could get lot of information from them. Location was excellent. You can reach all the main attractions of the center by walking. Sauna depatment was nice and clean. Restaurants menu was very good and local wines as well.

    « Beaut hotel »

We had a large room. It was clean with room to move. The hotel staff were terrific and happy to answer any queries we had. There was a good breakfast each morning. The city centre was literally just there, the river, the bridges, cafes, bars, restaurants.

« My second stay and would always stay here in Ljubljana »

The staff are great! The rooms are spacious! Breakfast is giant with anything you could possibly desire! The lady that runs breakfast is an absolute delight to see every morning! We love hotel slon! I would highly recommend!!!

    « Excellent hotel »

This hotel is just an excellent one in this small gem called Ljubljana. Located on a pedestrian street only a couple of minutes walking away from the Triple Bridge it may my stay very pleasant. The room I stayed in was a bit small but it was very clean and the had a great view over the pedestrian road. Very enjoyable stay.

« Excellent hotel in the centre of a beautiful city! »

I cannot rate this hotel highly enough. Everything was perfect, location - right in the pedestrianised centre of Ljubljana, rooms- very comfortable beds and good bathroom facilities. Breakfast is just fantastic - as mentioned by several other travellers. More choice than I've seen anywhere else in Europe. Location really is key as well, within walking distance to everything within the city centre. We stayed when it was boiling in August, 2015 and found the hotel very comfortable in terms of temperature. Cannot fault this place. I would gladly stay again!

« Amazing stay in central Ljubljana »

We stayed at the Best Western Premier Hotel Slon for 2 nights and can only say WOW for the location, it is mostly pedestrian zone and is the place where life is happening. The breakfast is so far the best one I have eaten in Europe, so rich and delicious. The room was clean and a nice view down the main street. The only problem we had that the wifi was really weak and could not stay on in for a longer time but it did not bother since we were not in the room most of the time. And a special thank you to Igor and Irena on the receptiom who were really helpful with information and our needs. I raccomand this hotel and ee shall stay here next time. Hvala! :)

« Refurbished and revitalised city centre hotel which offers 5 star luxury in modern well equipped rooms »

Since I last stayed there, the Slon (Elephant) Hotel has started a major programme of renovations which are almost complete ( no construction noise!). My third floor room was actually a small suite with separate sitting and working area and large bathroom with separate shower. The bath was big enough for sharing. Two flat screen TVs and full charging points, coffee maker, mini bar and goodies and kettle competed the ensemble. L'Occitane toiletries were generously provided. The bed was new and high thread count cotton sheets and duvet plus pillow menu guaranteed a really good nights sleep. Breakfast was excellent with very generous buffet which included proper sized croissants and fresh squeezed OJ. There is a small spa which includes a sauna and Thai massage salon. Great fast and free wifi. Probably the best Best Western I've ever stayed at.

    « A disastrous stay... »

This was my 5th time in the same hotel. I stayed in hotel Slon in 2005/6/7/8 & 9. Back then the hotel was nice or we had a nicer room. This was the oldest most disgusting and smelly room I have ever stayed in. The sewage water was coming up in the bathroom and room was smelling really bad, it was small, dark, and old. We arrived at midnight but were so disgusted and slept so bad that left Ljubljana after a night. The location is good, the breakfast is still decent and they have nice products (shampoo, soap, so on...) in the room. I wouldn't stay again.

    4
    « A true superior 4 stars »

Ljubjlana don't have 5 stars at disposal but have a few very nice 4 stars and Slon hotel is one of them. Room are nice but I recommend to take the deluxe room (32m2 ) because the standard room is a bit too small for family ( only 23m2 ) Staff are very friendly especially to children. The restaurant is really nice and the lunch menu is a great value for money. The lobby hall feels a bit too cold and the corridor. Really satisfied and will certainly come back next time. Regards

    « Ver good »

Visited the hotel for business with my wife. The hotel is ideally positioned at a very convenient place rigth at the city center. The hotel is very good in general. Internet access is high speed and avaiable for free everywhere. The hotel is clean and quiet. Highly recommended for business or leisure.

« Being upgraded, but comfortable. »

Pleasant staff makes the reception very nice. Rooms were large but a bit dated, and there is a lot of renovation in progress. Clean and comfortable. Everything worked. Nice breakfast was included. Great location in old town.

    4
« Lovely but VERY noisy hotel! »

Lovely hotel in a fantastic location but at the moment (spring 2016) they are doing MAJOR refurbishment work which starts at 9am every weekday morning and is exceptionally noisey. We complained to reception who offered to change our room but the first one we were offered was much smaller than we had paid for and the second one - although technically an upgrade - wasn't as nice either. We opted to stay put and just got up early every morning! They gave us a free bottle of wine as compensation.

    5
« My favorite in Ljubljana »

I always stay here and never dissapoints. But maybe it is because of my corner suite ? always reserve.. This time I didn't like the new balcony led lighting though. Too much. The hotel is undergoing lobby renovation so ? am looking forward to the changes next year.

    4
    « Fabulous location! »

We stayed at Hotel Slon at the end of a tour. The room was small but complete. However, you might need the room's chair to access the safe! Lobby is under renovation, so entrance is awkward, but easily mastered. Breakfast was good. All staff members were very gracious and helpful. The location was ideal for walking the historical area as well as museums and Tivoli Park. Plenty of shops and good restaurants are nearby. Patisserie next to lobby is wonderful. Hotel Slon is an excellent choice for Ljubljana.

    5
« A quality hotel close to the heart of the city »

This luxury hotel is well-located for exploring the historic centre of Ljubljana. My room, on the fourth floor, faced into the courtyard and had the feel of a suite. There was a sizable work desk, a sofa and a flat-screen TV above the desk. I loved the Nespresso coffee maker and fact mineral water was included in the room price. The bathroom had a bathtub, which I enjoyed a relaxing steep in, and came with L'Occitane toiletries. It's a great place to stay if you don't mind the price.

    4
    « Business Trip »

This Hotel is in the center of Ljubljana. Very friendly and efficient reception, nice room, good breakfast. The Hotel has an excellent restaurent with supper waiters. Specially I want to mention Andy who is efficient and communicative and speaks perfect English. The Hotel has also a good working commuter bus to the airport with e good price.

    3
« Great location but otherwise a bit average »

The hotel is a short walk from the train and bus station in the centre of the city and is in a great location, just a few moments walk from some of the major areas and sights. This made popping back to the room during a day exploring easy and made it a really convenient hotel. Upon arrival it was a bit concerning to see most of the frontage of the hotel boarded up due to renovation works taking place. Unfortunately this also meant the entrance way and lobby area was far from a visually pleasant first impression, and not something I had been forewarned about. The staff member at check-in was quick and friendly, engaging in a bit of conversation regarding my visit which was welcoming. The lifts were large and fast throughout my stay to where my room was, at the front of the hotel on the third floor. Being at the front of the hotel meant there was a fair amount of noise from outside, especially with the window open which was necessary due to the air conditioning being far from effective. The size of the room wasn't great, and although I was only there for a couple of nights it did quickly begin to feel a little claustrophobic. It was nice that there was a separate hallway area, leading into the bathroom, and both a working desk and separate chair and coffee table in the room but navigating around everything was a bit of a squeeze. The TV was a decent size for the room with adequate picture quality and the mini bar was well stocked and priced reasonably. Bed side lamps were present and also an electric socket at both sides. An alarm clock, dressing gowns in the wardrobe, local magazine detailing the city, tea and coffee, and fast, stable wifi meant that everything you could want was present somewhere. The bathroom area was again a little lacking in space, especially for storing any toiletries or accessories. Space around the sink was minimal and there was no other shelving available. The shower was over the bath but positioned in a way that meant it was only too easy to cause puddles on the floor. The frog and flower by the sink was a nice little touch though. The shower itself was relatively powerful and had good heat, but was very sensitive. The size of the bath was alright and the toiletries weren't bad, although there was no separate conditioner only shampoo. Along with the temperature of the room being hard to control without opening the window, it was the noise of the building work downstairs which was the biggest let down. Whilst it didn't go on into an evening the afternoons and mornings were disrupted by very loud drilling and banging. It was fortunate that I wasn't planning on spending much time in the room because this quickly would have become unbearable. The inclusive breakfast had a good range of food, including the a la carte options available to order. It was nice that everything continued to be served until 11am which gave plenty of time to enjoy it. Hot drinks were available from machines rather than having to rely on the waiting staff serving at your table. Food appeared to be restocked frequently enough to keep if fresh which was great. There were also plenty of tables available for larger groups and to prevent the restaurant getting busy. Overall the location of this hotel was its main selling point. The staff were all friendly and the housekeeping service was great at returning throughout the day even when their standard time was missed. However the room was just a little too pokey to make me happy to stay here for any length of time and unfortunately some of the other aspects resulted in it feeling a little more ?budget' than ?premier'.

    « Wonderful stay »

I have never been treated so well in my life. People at reception were great and try to satisfy any demand of mine. The manager worked hard to find me the tea they serve at the huge and delicious breakfast, and gave me a entire bag of it. The chef in the restaurant is doing a wonderful job. He offered me my last diner in the place, so kind of him. Free sparkling wine is available at the reception. The Zvezda tea room makes great cakes, ice creams and macaroons. Fitness room is quite complete, the TV didn't work but I might have touched something wrong... Sauna is a nice experience ! Chocolate on your bed after cleaning is rather appreciable ! I really deeply recommand to stay at this place for the kind and gentle care you receive. People just try their best for you to feel special, and ask nothing in return. Thank you so much for this experience, I will surely come back here for my next business trip.

    « Extremely good hotel »

In the city center of Ljubljana. It's almost new building, Rooms are clean. Beds are comfortable. TV screen is extremely big. Foods are delicious. You should taste famous Slovenian cheeses. I recommend this hotel to all travellers in Ljubljana. Only parking is a little bit problem in front of the hotel.

    « Nice breakfast buffet »

The hotel currently is undergoing renovation. The main entrance is blocked off at the moment and you have to enter through a side door. Other than this I was not bothered by the renovation process. The halls are somewhat opulent which gives a warm feeling. The room overlooking the interior courtyard was very quiet. In the morning a nice breakfast can be enjoyed on the first floor.

    « What a dump »

This is one of those classical cases where management should be aware that placing nice pictures of several renovated rooms can easily deceive guests and cause opposite effect. Rooms that I have seen, all of them, are seriously outdated, with furniture from previous century and old tiles in bathrooms. Common corridors look dull and old as well. Reception too is outdated with odd and bad smell throughout. At least they have new elevators and refurbished facade. Completely disappointed. Better value for money can be found easily elsewhere in close proximity.

    3
« Location in the city centre »

Hotel Slon is located in the walking area in the centre of Ljubljana. Hotel Slon has a valet parking which is very suitable if you came by car. Rooms are clean not very big, bed rather confortable and bathroom decent. Breakfast in the hotel has a classic offer for similar style hotels within the hotel chain. Overall in case you are looking for an ok hotel with a reasonable price in the city centre Hotel Slon would suit you just fine.

« Convenient location. In need of some renovation. »

Hotel SLON is one of these huge hotels with endless corridors of room after room. The rooms are dated, especially the bath rooms. Like all of Ljubljana's hotels the rooms are way to well heated (in Fall/Winter I had to sleep with open window) and the A/C is too weak for Summer. Their intranet-based hotel-TV-system does not like me and crashes everytime. I have given up using the TV when I am staying their. (Which is maybe the intention to get you out into the beautiful city. ;-) ) This hotel shares a wifi weakness with some other hotels in Ljubljana using apparently the same system. I think the system somehow keeps the connection alive and drains my phone's energy. If I link my fully charged BlackBerry to the hotel wifi in the evening and don't plug the charger, the phone is dead in the morning. Sucks if your phone is your alarm. The breakfast buffet is average at best, especially the bread and müesli section is weak compared to many other Slovenian hotels. The entrance hall smells strong soapy, maybe from the spa area? The restaurant has moved in the mean time but when I had dinner on the previous location, the restaurant was so cold I had actually to sit there in a coat.

    « Everything is good »

Very good stay for the value ,everythin vas perfect....breakfast is perfect only the bread was to litlle to hard, heat in the room was not working but is not a big problem is not to much cold..Very satisfacted with stay, staff was very friendly, location is very good

    « Very good hotel »

The hotel is very well located close to the key places of interest. Unfortunately, the reception area was undergoing some kind of refurbishment - this made things slightly inconvenient and noisy! The room was very goo and staff were very helpful. Buffet breakfast was very good and hot items were actually hot!

    3
« No care for details »

The location is excellent and even prices can be competitive. It is a pity they do not care enough for side services, like sauna and gym, which were quite neglected by personnel. Breakfast is very good.

« Sheets that smelled lavender! »

Located at the heart of the city. Stayed there with my family for a night at a room with a great view. Very comfy bed with a lavender sprey for the sheets - nice touch. Couple of blocks away from the nicest restaurants. Good breakfast. They offer car park for 18 EUR/day.

« Good choice for a mid winter break. »

This is a nice hotel with good facilities. Our room was spacious, well equipped with a comfortable bed and to my wife's delight, a pillow menu. There was a nice selection of items on the breakfast buffet as well as a breakfast menu for made to order items. The reception staff were also helpful with our onward travel arrangements. The main lobby area was undergoing renovations during our visit but they have to be done sometime and low season would seem appropriate.

    3
« Medium class, very well located, small rooms »

It is not business class hotel rather for travelers to have good location. Be aware that local taxis have not access to hotel entrance and you need catch you driver :) Service and all rooms equipment are good but my room is small.

    5
« Such a wonderful place, this is what all hotels should be! »

Room was great, clean and comfortable. The location was right in the middle of town. The staff was more than helpful. All were there to make you feel "family". On our next trip to Slovenia, there is no question where we will stay.

    4
    « under construction »

Hotel Slon in currently being renovated (the entry), the street is already renovated and much nicer than last street. The interiors are classic, the rooms are a bit old fashioned, including the bathroom (but comfortable). Welcome chocolate, complimentary water are a plus. Breakfast is OK, standard. No parking. the services parks the car in nearby garage, takes some time to retrieve the vehicle.

    5
    « City break »

Great location for exploring this delightful city. It is currently having some ground level refurbishment done, but this did not affect our enjoyment and our room was quiet. Extensive and delicous breakfast buffet, though if you don't see what you want on it, they do have a cook-to-order menu at no extra charge. Great value for money. You can prebook an airport shuttle, currently 9 Euros, about thirty minutes drive.

    4
    « City centre »

This hotel is one of Ljubljana's institutions (there was an inn on this spot since 16th century - ask for the story about the elephant, slon in Slovenian). So is the attached cafe. The hotel is very nicely renovated. The location is fantastic, less than a minute walk to Presernov Trg but the hotel is hemmed in by pedestrian zones which means it's quiet, especially the rooms facing the courtyard. Some rooms have views of the castle. Good soundproofing and comfortable beds (with pillow options). Staff was friendly and helpful. Good breakfast. The rate we got by booking ahead was good value; walk-in rates were quite a bit higher.

    4
    « Holiday »

Stayed here in August 2015 and a very central hotel, within walking distance of everything. 2 minutes from plenty of restaurants and bass along the river. Hotel was in the midst of a refurbishment but it was very clean and tidy. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. Parking was an issue as they don't have a garage and it was difficult to follow directions to meet concierge regarding the car. Would stay again if ever in the capital.

    5
« Probably the best hotel in Ljubljana »

A very nice hotel located in the center of Ljubljana. You can get almost anywhere by foot. The staff was welcoming and polite. There were plenty of choices for breakfast. The hotel has everything you need: toiletries and coffee maker in the room, shoe polisher on every floor etc. The WiFi in the room was excellent and the rooms were cleaned every day.

    5
« Excellent modern hotel in great location. »

Very modern and stylish business/tourist hotel in the center of Ljubljana. Friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast buffet. Comfortable rooms. Free Wifi. On modern street, but only 2 blocks to the very center of old town Ljubljana--right around the corner. Convenient to lots of good restaurants and public transportation (cabs and buses run right in front.) Perhaps your best bet in Ljubljana.

« A hotel good for business and pleasure »

My wife travelled in December 2015 in Slovenia, at Hotel Lev from Ljubliana and she confirms my excellent opinion about this hotel, when I was staying there. Room is clean, worm, bathroom clean, fresh towels, big bed, clean sheets, late check out, breakfast very rich, nice restaurant. The personnel is polite, prompt and at the reception the operating time was short. The hotel has a shuttle bus for the airport for 9 Euros. The hotel is good for business and also for pleasure.

« Best spot in Slon »

The bar and restaurant was great. I was introduced to 2 new gins and I am pleased with them. Roby Marton and Monkey 47!!! Roby is my new favorite. And those truffle mashed potatoes, my god!! So delicious, I want more as I type this!!! Our room was comfy. I think there was an outside bar/club below our room, the location can be a killjoy if you are there to relax. The staff were ok, not very friendly or welcoming. At least not to me.

    5
« great hotel, city centre location »

We stayed for 4 nights, right in the centre of town, staff were friendly, room was spotless, breakfast was lovely with a good selection, they also have a shuttle service back to airport for about 8 euros, would definitely stay again.

« Great service, location and staff »

I stayed in this hotel for 5 weeks whilst on business. The location is perfect being right in the centre of the city and only a two minute walk to the beautiful medieval part as well as plenty of restaurants and a small supermarket just around the corner. The reception staff were very courteous and friendly and without exception all spoke excellent English. My first room was quite dark and had annoying creaking floorboards and was a little small for a long stay but after negotiating a long term rate I was upgraded to a larger room which had plenty of storage space, desk and sofa. The rooms include coffee making facilities, fresh bottled water and the TV had a good selection of English speaking channels. Internet is included and was fast enough and I never experienced any problems with it. One area for improvement would be the lights in the room which were never bright enough. The turn down service included a nice elephant shaped chocolate each night. Breakfast is in a nice light contemporary setting with a fair selection on offer as well as a cook to order egg menu however a better (rotary)toaster could improve the service. The hotel operates an airport shuttle service which is very much cheaper than the €50 a taxi costs from the airport. Only buses are allowed along the main road outside the hotel and as mentioned a taxi driver will come and collect you on foot and take you to his taxi but its usually only a minute walk. A particular nice touch was the pre notification to guests informing them that a late night function was to take place and offering a room for that night in a quieter area of the hotel although I never found the noise excessive. As mentioned the hotel is currently being upgraded and to compensate for any inconvenience complimentary champagne was offered in the reception area. I would have no hesitation in staying here again and recommending this hotel.

    « Wow! »

I can say all in one sentence- what a bed and what a breakfast!! Wow! Quality of bed and linen is out of this world and breakfast is from 5* hotel. Room all in all is nice. Little bit small and without balcony but that is architecture of building. Only thing that we were dissapointed was sauna. No music,no aroma in the air, finnish sauna dark without lights and also without essential oils amd turkish bath is unusable. It's very and I mean very dirty. It smells disgusting, when you open the door bad smell makes you throw up,mold,mold,mold..Obviously this part of hotel offer is not under proper care and it needs general cleaning and someones deep attention!!!

« A lovely friendly hotel right in the centre. »

We booked a four night/five holiday in December and were delighted with the hotel. We did opt for the €50 upgrade to a superior deluxe room which was well worth the money as we got a separate room between the bedroom and the bathroom and extra large king size bed. The bath was long and deep which was ideal as I'm tall. The inclusive breakfast had a huge array of hot and cold food and a great variety of breads. Staff were attentive. There were a good variety of spa treatments available and the reflexology I had was relaxing. There was also good quality free wi-fi throughout the hotel.

« Great hotel, did the job »

Stayed in this hotel in LJ for one night in December. Its currently being given a facelift but has a nice modern feel inside. The staff proved to be ambassadors for the great country of Slovenia, very friendly people, I'd like to thank them for their professionalism and friendliness by going that extra mile to ask questions and make me and my girlfriend feel welcome. Room was alright, not the most spacious or modern, but I learnt that the hotel was one of the most prestigious ones in the former Yugoslavia which made sense and made me appreciate it more. Breakfast was decent enough, included in the price. There was an amazing Christmasy smell all over the hotel which was great, added to the character. Our room was on the top floor with a perfect view of the castle. Its bang in the centre and everything is literally a stone throw away (everything generally is in Ljubljana). My only moan was the face that the price I 'locked it in' at fluctuated due to the strength of the Euro since I booked it, something I'll blame the website I booked it on, be careful if you book this or any hotel that way, pay there and then at the best price. Bit off topic. Enjoy LJ and Slovenia.

    « great location »

If you are coming by car, be prepare to either give your car keys to personal to park your car in garage that is 5min walking distance from hotel, or of course somebody from hotel will go with you. Rooms are OK but little bit smaller and not really special. Location is absolutely great!!!

    « Location Location Location »

Location was great! Room Service was confusing:/ night food is reheated in the microwave:/ However house keeping service in our Superior room was on point! The resturant and cafe is attached to the hotel. They had the beSt dessert in town! Great stay

    « very good »

I stayed at the Slon just one night for a business trip. The hotel is high quality for the price I paid. The room was huge and very comfortable. It faced the pedestrian area so it was very quiet. Breakfast is simply excellent; one of the very few hotels I stayed where I could squeeze my own orange juice! The central location allows you to walk through the center to visit it and to find a good restaurant. When I will be back to Ljubljana I will stay again there.

« Average due to price »

i have been here again for 2 nights on some business trip. the hotel is OK. they moved now the restaurant but is still nice, cozy and upscale. still as LJU is rather not looking as a capital i do find the rates here quite high....i have stayed this time to a regular room.is smaller them the deluxe one....the amenities are not l'occitane but their brand, the bath had only shower instead of both, the coffee maker in the room was not from NESCAFE anymore but regular water boiler and instant coffee.....yet the bed was nice and the staff was best. being on a pedestrian area is quite a small issue with the cabs but is not huge...also what i can say is that the breakfast is good ....next time if i book same hotel i will book a deluxe..... :)

    « Simply wonderful! »

This is one of the best hotels I have ever visited. if you factor in the very reasonable price, then it IS the best. The staff are really helpful and friendly. Rooms are classy and comfy, nice parquet floors. The selection at breakfast is enormous. It's right in the city centre, 2 mins walk from the three bridges. Parking is a bit steep at 18 euro, but I suppose that's the price you pay for being right in the centre.

    « A pleasant stay »

This was my second trip to Ljubljana and I decided to stay in this Hotel as it was even closer to the city center than my earlier choice. The hotel is in a pedestrian street of Ljubljana and hence the Taxi would drop you about 100 metres from the hotel to walk the distance. It is a nice hotel with friendly staff at the reception. The rooms are OK and quite decent. It is what we expected from a Best western. They have a nice new restaurant with good food and some promotions with the drinks. The lunch was quite good from the fixed Menu comprising for the Soup, Salad, Pasta, Desert at a reasonable price. The Gym was well equipped but a bit cramped up with too many equipment. The Hotel is very near the Preseren Square (about 150 metres) thus a nice place to hangout in the evening. There is also an Indian restaurant called 'Namaste' close to this. The telephonica to reach the castle is also at walking distance. The super market SPAR is next to the hotel for any of your daily needs. Over all a good choice and would like to stay again.

« A nice hotel in the center of Ljubljana »

This hotel is situated in the city center of Ljubljana. It offers you a nice stay in a comfortable manner. The hardware is obviously a bit older, but it still lokks quite nice. The breakfast has considerable variety and the hotel staff was nice!

    « Great Slon! »

We spent two nights in this hotel in December 2014. Room: We had a large, quiet and clean room, but it was slightly outdated. As the windows faced the inner garden of the hotel, it was really dark inside during the rainy day. Location: The center of the center ? you can't find anything better. Breakfast: The hotel offers unbelievable variety of food on the breakfast ? 5 stars level. The restaurant of the hotel is very popular and overbooked all the time, but this is not a problem as there are plenty of restaurants just around the corner. Parking: The hotel offers expensive valet parking. The zone around the hotel is restricted for driving, but the clients of the hotel are allowed to drive to the hotel's doors. Check-in / Check-out: Very friendly and fast. Internet: Not very fast, but stable wifi connection. Overall: The hotel is not very modern, but the level of service is of the highest standard. Definitely recommend it to everyone.

« Perfect in the most lovely place »

I have been here twice. Firts time in summer and now in late fall. The hotel is near the centre and that is a big plus when you love to walk around the town. The rooms were both times oke and the service is excellent. Breakfast is perfect. Staff is veru friendly and speak good english.

    4
    « Good location »

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the hotel was right in the middle of everything. It was an easy walk to attractions and about 7 blocks from the bus / train station. The room was small, but clean and very comfortable. I felt the room was a bit overpriced, but it seemed to be the norm for the area. Make sure to read the history of the hotel provided in the room - I found it interesting.

    4
    « Good value »

Went there on business a few weeks ago. Prices offered (less than 100 Euro) means it is very good value: clean, good facilities, friendly staff, very centrally located in the actually very attractive city of Ljubljana.

    « Very good »

I think the hotel is excellent. I am staying in one of the renovated rooms and plus is a smoking room, which the person on reception desk managed to find for me! I like the comfortable bed. The details in the room, from the coffee machine to the earplugs on the night stand, really shows that this hotel is investing in the customers. Luxurious, practical, comfortable room. Hotel personal is very professional. Breakfast has different options, organized like a buffet. Wifi is available in the room and the connection is stable. Centrally located, near everything you need. Still has some soviet sence in the hotel, but all the balkan hotels have it though.

« Good Hotel in a great location, But... »

I stayed at the Slon for 12 days while on a business trip. A nice hotel in a good location, but I did have some problems while there. They are in the process of renovating the hotel, so there is a lot of noise. I was woken up several times at 7:30am by the sound of jack hammers. Also the water pressure in the shower was next to nothing. My normal 15 minute shower turned into half an hour due to the lack of water pressure. And lastly, the changed internet carrier during my stay but failed to inform the guests they were doing so. I tried for an hour to connect to the internet with no luck. I called the front desk and was told to try moving to other locations to connect. I went down to the front desk and was finally told they switched carriers and had to connect to the new one. A simple note could have avoided all that.

    « Very good location »

Stayed for two nights in this hotel. We came with our car and reserved the hotel parking. Bell boy came and took our luggage to the reseption. There we unfortunately had really arrogant customer service from a man who didn't tell us what was the room number, how to get there, where are the elevators. He just threw the keycards to the table and didn't say anything. On the following days if I had something to talk about on a reseptions, I went to an other person and had good customer service. Rooms were good size and neat. The hotel itself and the rooms had a soviet feeling. Breakfast was amazing! And the WIFI worked perfectly. Although the bad experience on arrival, I would recommend this hotel.

    « 4 stars??!! »

This hotel is centrally situated in the old part of Ljubljana, a walking distance to most of the restaurant, cafe snd shops. Breakfast was good but some of the waitress were not hospitable. The room did not have the standards of a 4 star hotel.

    4
« The best staff in the world. »

The hotel is located in the hard of Ljubljana, the downtown is just behind the corner. Staff is trained up to perfection; very polite, friendly; available; helpful, correct; will to take an extra mile for you at any moment . Nice fitness, good WI - FI; excellent meeting rooms with just proficious service! !! The weak point is the "morning " elevator. It feels like wait for a train or bus which is just to come about never. Breakfast is "you dream, you get it". Service for food is somewhat to slow during the business lunch, and the cheef creations are many times not up to the level of this hotel and the rest of the service; but in spite of this, I've been here at least 50 times, I will revert back and I would say YES I DO RECOMMEND IT TO ALL; TOURISTS, FAMILIES, CUOLUPLES, BUSINESS! !!

    5
« High quality and attention to details »

This is my second stay at the Slon. Last time it was good but this time it was excellent. I stayed in one of the renovated rooms and you can feel the luxury! As an experienced traveller, I appreciated the extremely comfortable bed, the lavender pillow mist and the bulgari refreshing towelettes. The walk in shower and the separate bath tub with the glass window are eccentric and modern. The details in the room, from the iPhone charger, to the earplugs on the night stand (although I didn't need them at all), to the international sockets around the room really go to show that this room was designed with travellers in mind. Not pretentious. Sufficiently luxurious whilst practical and comfortable :-) The staff was attentive and professional. Breakfast was varied and with plenty of healthy options, which tends normally to be an issue. I can honestly say this place keeps changing for the better, and I will truly be back for more! Ps I think next time I'll buy the cute little elephant toy that they put in every room!

    5
    « Amazing stay »

My husband and I simply adore this hotel. We stayed in new renovated room this time and it was truly wonderful. Glass bathroom was interesting. You can see the whole room from inside the bathroom. Of course you can always shut the bathroom blinds if you want 'some privacy'. Oh and I just love L'Occitane bathroom amenities. They are my favourite. Staff was kind and friendly. Service in the restaurant was superb. Peter, who served us during dinner was extremely attentive. Proper 5 star service. Furthermore breakfast was second to none. It always is. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone. We will certainly come again. Hopefully soon.

« They redeemed themselves with the great service »

I moved from a hotel where my tour group was staying to this hotel a few steps away after the tour ended. They were great and helped me transfer all my luggage. Everyone was helpful and the bed was very comfortable even though I had asked for a newer room because I could have easily stayed at the other luxury hotel for nearly the same price. I told them this_they called sales, and pretty much said no. I got a slightly upgraded small room (and upgraded room here was actually more expensive than the luxury hotel was offering me). Anyway, all was fine as I rested in my room after 5 long weeks of travel and needing a day to recharge. First a maid came in to check the mini bar, which should be standard procedure when they change the room. Then about 5 hours after I checked in, the hotel manager, accompanied by a maid knocked on my door, didn't even wait for me to answer, then just let himself in! What if I was in the shower? He just wanted to make sure I was in my room or some such, and nobody at the front desk could tell me who he was. Very uncomfortable. So I left the do not disturb sign out my entire stay. Always got little slips of paper about the mini bar, which I never use anyway! Was feeling I should have really stayed at the Grand Union for the privacy if nothing more. Apparently my privacy was worth 9 Euro, since they waived that cost of a ride to the airport, plus a few Euro in city tax. However, I could not check in for my flight since the airport web site is necessary to use, not the airline web site. So they kindly helped me with that which I greatly appreciated. Anyway, nice breakfast buffet and great location, but remember to keep the do not disturb sign out the entire time, and forego getting your room cleaned. Your privacy is only worth 9 Euro! Otherwise very helpful staff.

    « Not really a 4* hotel »

I am rather surprised by good reviews of the hotel, there are many better in Ljubljana for the same price. The rooms are small and with outdated design, it was hot in the room when I arrived and aircon works extremally loud. The bathroom is also small and outdated. The beds are ok, but the linen did not smell nice. The breakfast was standard, nothing to complain about really. The biggest advantage is location, but then again, there are many other hotels in the area to chose from. Free wifi and free bottled water in the room is a plus.

    4
    « Great location »

The hotel is situated on a high class street in the vicinitynof old town. If you travel by car, it offers paid convenient parking. The rooms are medium quality. The bathrooms are nice but water splits all over the floor after shower. Unfortunately 90 % of the rooms overlook backyard technical area. Hotel offers excellent breakfast including champagne.

    4
« great hotel for american Standards »

it's not a luxury hotel by american standards but a very good one. I was worried because my husband travels for work a lot and tends to be very picky about hotels. The Slon was a relief- great location (all of Ljubljana is very walkable), nice bar (did't eat in restaurant but looked good), room was not big but acceptable for the 2 of us- we weren't in room alot! The bed was comfortable, internet was good, breakfast great- and everyone was very kind and helpful. My room looked directly at the post office next door but I enjoyed being treated by the roof top statues each morning! Hotel has an elevator which is important for us since we definitely overpacked!

    5
    « Will be back »

I tried two different rooms at Hotel Slon, with two different purposes but was most impressed with the customer service. If travelling on your own, the economy single room is perfectly fine (as long as you don't have a large suitcase) with a good sized bed that is comfortable. However, the superior deluxe room is lovely for a splurge and a little bit of luxury. The customer service can't be faulted, and nothing was too much trouble. Also, the location was perfect for exploring the city. I would happily return to Hotel Slon again.

« Perfect Location and Great Value »

I had a great experience with the customer service here. I had left something at my previous hotel in Bled. They sent it to Hotel Slon but I did not get it before I left Ljubliana. Hotel Slon mailed it to my home in the US. The room was perfect for my stay. And the hotel is walking distance to all the attractions. Will definitely stay here again! A+

    5
    « Excellent hotel »

It was our second family visit to Ljubljana and both times we stayed in Slon hotel. Location is perfect! Only 2 min walk from Triglav bridge and old town. They have parking garage and will gladly take your car there and bring it back when you need it. Breakfast is great, staff is very friendly, rooms are very clean. Downstairs there is cafe Zvezda (Star), one of the best cafes in Ljubljana with a huge assortment of macaroons. And there traditional slovenian layered cake is a must?

« Very surprised on our stay »

We stayed here as we were traveling through Europe in our new BMW, we only stayed here one night but was very impressed with how nice the room was and how close it is to everything downtown. We got a corner suite and was impressed on how big the room was, and the free breakfast the following morning. The Breakfast was very impressive and excellent! We will be returning again and staying here.

    5
    « Excellent! »

We spent one night here on our way through Slovenia and it was excellent. We didn't realize when we booked the room that the Ljubljana marathon was happening that weekend. The streets around the hotel were blocked off and the race route went right in front of the hotel and through the old town. We had to park and walk to the hotel in order to check in and when they found out where we were parked, they sent two bellmen back to the car with us, one to drive the car to the parking garage and the other to help us with our luggage. The room was very nice, the breakfast buffet had everything on it you could imagine, and the staff were very helpful We would definitely stay here again! (Bill Clinton stayed here in 2009.)

    3
« Not really four star! »

When we arrived nobody came to welcome us and take baggages. The check in process was fast and there was fresh water available for guests in the lobby. The room was really tight and it was not modern, but was good enough and the bed was comfortable. At the first night the weather changed and it got really cold. The air conditioner did not work and radiator was not enough for me so I called the receptionist and they send some body for checking. He said I am right but they cannot do anything now and it must be fixed in the morning. But it was never fixed! The house keepers always forgot something. I always had to call for shampoo or something else. They only gave the guests one free bottle of water on the first day and after that free water was not available. The breakfast buffet was relatively complete and I enjoyed it, but staff seemed confused and they never collected the dirty dishes from the table. Most of the staff were friendly, but not all of them! Once I had a question and the receptionist did not make an eye contact with me and after five minutes I said excuse me! and he said wait! I think the best thing about this hotel was the location. It was in old town and I enjoyed wandering and shopping in beautiful noble surrounding. I ate lunch and dinner in hotel and I didn't enjoy the food. The soup in every time was not delicious (beef soup and mushroom soup) and the main course (fish and steak) was not excellent .

    « Hot in Ljubljana »

We stayed at the Best Western Premier Hotel Slon in Ljubljana, Slovenia Oct 7 & 8. When we got into the room it was very hot. We tried to turn on the A/C but no luck, we tried opening the windows, they were locked in place so you could only open then a few inches on the top. When we inquired about how warm the rooms were we were faced with a surly desk manager, his comment was that the heat is on because it was winter, temps outside were on the 50's at night and 60's during the day. Others staying there complained as well, no fan, no air movement meant 2 sleepless nights. Now for the good part, their breakfast buffet was excellent the staff there was very good and friendly, the rooms were clean but tight and it's quite away from the train or bus station though the taxi trip was about $7EU. Would love to give a better comment but the room temperature was unbearable. Expected more from a supposedly highly rated hotel so quite disappointed. Oh forgot, drunks and other gather below the windows in the early hours of the morning. Mgr said they couldn't do anything about it. Sad!

    « Good location But. »

Central location, on a pedestrianised area, But, nobody had informed us, that, you CAN drive up to the hotel door, and, they will, kindly, garage your car for a small fee (18 euros, at the time of writing ) we drove round and round in-between roadwork's, trying to find the way in, so, we dumped the car and walked in, only to be told, of what we should of done !. We were told that, our twin room, had been upgraded, and, yes, we did have a very nice a elegant room, but, it was a double with a 'put me up bed' in it, so, not really an upgrade, more a booking mistake. the double bed was very comfortable, (I had that one) but my friend drew the short straw, and got the very low, very hard put me up, room was very good otherwise, and very clean. Breakfast was disappointing, very German, is how I can best describe it, Continental with a choice of Germanic style sausages.

« Central location, comfortable business hotel. »

I stayed here for a three day, two night visit to Ljubljana in October 2015. The hotel is located on a largely pedestrian area, though busses are allowed up and down the main road. Check-in was friendly and efficient, my room clean, quiet & comfortable. I could even open the window which is sometimes prohibited in business hotels. The breakfast buffet on the 1st floor was wide-ranging and freshly cooked. Everything was self-service including coffee & tea but there was a good selection and lots of staff to clear-way each plate and cup. I can't claim to have visited either the spa or the restaurant, preferring to explore the city on so brief a visit. I'd certainly stay at this hotel again and can report that the noisy road-works commented upon by other travellers seem to have finished. I certainly didn't see of hear them. One unusual feature - the hotel has a Bitcoin conversion machine in reception.

    « Great location & stay »

I stayed in this hotel during August. The location is really amazing in the city center with restaurants, cafes & sightseeing around you. They have refilled sparkle wine in the lobby which is great. Meeting room is good but not the best. breakfast is excellent & there are many varieties. rooms are clean but not spacious (as most of the city center hotels). This is a great choice for all purposes.

« The elephant in the room »

But I can talk about it!. We loved the Slon which means elephant and there's an interesting history behind the name. There was a cuddly toy elephant on the bed which you could take home for 10 euros - I have to say I was tempted, it was very cute. We had a superior room which was spacious, clean, comfortable and quiet. There wasn't much of a view but we weren't expecting any. Breakfast was comprehensive including Slovenian food and there was an a la carte menu where you could have freshly cooked eggs etc. We didn't try that as there was plenty to choose from the buffet. I had good intentions to use the facilities such as the gym but didn't even poke my nose in - too much to see in the city. As has been reported before, the hotel really is in a good position - round the corner you're in the old town and it's about 15 mins from the bus/train station - turn right at the station walk pass the corrugated iron fence, at the junction cross the road to the corner with the flag poles and it's straight on from there. Would recommend this hotel and would stay here again. Many

« Great location but in need of a renovation »

Love the location and that is this hotels strong point. We stayed in a suite. It was spacious and good but in my opinion in need of a renovation. Especially the bathroom and the toilet. They had no heating although it was pretty cold (end of September ). The staff was friendly, breakfast was OK. Great view and great location so u can just leave the car in garage and walk everywhere.

    « A very nice hotel »

Stayed in this hotel for four nights, my room was a bit basic but okay. The view was not great.. The breakfast was very good but unfortunately the bar area was vey cold most of the time and the snacks were not very nice. I would go back but drink somewhere else.

« too many bad things »

overall the hotel looks fine, new and in the perfect place. but a lot of things are not working as it should on a 3/4 start hotel. the TV didnt work at all. the room heating was too hot, windows could be opened a bit to a noisy street. the cleaning lady came in in the afternoon siesta, at the breakfast buffet was not filled up as the visitors emptied the bowls. so too many things not in order, a shame as it has potential!

    « Great night sleep »

Very central hotel, friendly staff. Good breakfast selection, free wi-fi and lovely comfortable bed. When we arrived in the hotel my friend's booking was nowhere to be found and the hotel was fully booked. It was well past midnight and the staff kindly upgraded us to the presidential suite. The suite itself is a two bedroom affair, with small lounge downstairs, coffee machine etc. I had a great sleep and enjoyed a hot shower in the morning. What could be better: I am not sure how often the presidential suite is used, but some elements were a bit tired. The coffee machine's water container seemed to contain old liquid and be dirty. While the bathroom and bedrooms were spotless, other more communal area were not as clean.

    « Disappointing. »

When we arrived we were given a beautiful room..spacious and overlooking the street, plenty of natural light. Wow, we thought! We walked out the room to hear jack hammering, drilling and seeing( and breathing in) cement dust...the room across the hall from us was being renovated!!! The noise was so bad. I went to reception to ask how long this noise would continue for and was told from 8am until 6pm!!!! When I said this really was not good the receptionist just shook her head and said renovations had to be done!!! Our suggestion was yes..they do need to be done but don't rent out rooms close by...the noise, dust and smell of the dust was disgusting !!! After much huffing she offered another room....which was much smaller and had such a tiny window ( that overlooked a stairwell) that really there was no natural light! We took it because it was quiet but were really upset and angry that we had to accept this, wi no compensation or apology from hotel. Best Western are certainly thinking of profits over customer comforts!!!! It is such a shame as the hotel is lovely, most of the staff ver friendly and helpful and it is in a great position. I just would not recommend it until all renovations were complete. We loved Ljubjana and this part of the holiday was spoilt by Best Western's interest in profit making.

« great place to stay »

This hotel is close to the old city and was very handy for site seeing. The daily breakfast was very good and had a large variety. The staff were very friendly and helpful in arranging transportation from the airport and a tour to lake Bled. The room was very clean and attended to everyday. The only negative was the flooring in the room was very scratched from the chair at the desk. Would stay here again.
